Back down to its Black Friday low price, it's the first time I've seen this deal outside of the November sale – and we're not likely to see it again until then now either. So, if you've been sitting on the fence, I recommend you sign up before it's too late to benefit from the 72% saving.

Available to new and eligible returning customers, anyone in the latter camp can subscribe as long as it's been more than a month since you last had a subscription. This is good news if you are hoping to benefit from whatever Black Friday promotion Disney Plus and Hulu has in store, making you eligible as long as you cancel a couple of months before it drops.

I'm a big reader. On average I read around 60 books a year, and the vast majority of those are physical books I've accumulated over time. I've personally never got on with audiobooks, and nothing really beats being able to crack the spine (sorry!) on a physical book, but the unveiling of Amazon's latest Kindle, the Kindle Colorsoft, did stop me in my tracks for a number of reasons. The fact it's just dropped to its lowest ever price in the Amazon Big Spring Sale also has me strongly considering becoming a eReader convert.

While not Amazon's most expensive Kindle (that title goes to the Kindle Scribe), it doesn't come cheap. The Amazon Kindle Colorsoft RRPs at $279.99, but for the Amazon Big Spring Sale it's had $55 knocked off. Down to $224.99, this is the lowest price it's ever been – previously reduced to $229.99 back at the beginning of February.

The 20% price cut sure does take the edge off, but could this make it a best-seller over the course of this week's sale? Well, it's the first of many reasons I'm starting to wonder whether I need to cut down on physical books and make the leap to the Kindle Colorsoft. That, and thinking about all the upcoming book to screen adaptations I can get ahead of with.

The Amazon Kindle Colorsoft Just Dropped To Its Lowest Ever Price

A deal is as good a reason as any to start to seriously consider a purchase you'd otherwise been ruminating on. The Amazon Kindle Colorsoft is Amazon's second most expensive eReader, but the Amazon Big Spring Sale, as mentioned, sees it drop to its lowest ever price. Considering its still so new, a 20% saving isn't bad at all. It's also worth noting Amazon reduces its devices the most during its own sales. That means the Big Spring Sale, along with Prime Day later in the summer, are opportune times to save on Kindles, Echo speakers, and Fire Sticks.

The Kindle Doesn't Take Up Any Room (Unlike Books)

The reality of being an avid bookworm hits home hardest when it comes to moving. Hauling hundreds of books from one place to another is no easy feat, and books and bookcases sure do take up a lot of space. You know what doesn't? A Kindle. I love the idea of having my own home library, and I'd never give up on that dream entirely. But perhaps I need to become a bit more picky about the books I physically buy. Read it on my sparkly new Kindle Colorsoft and, if it's an all-time new favorite, add it to the shelves.

I Can Annotate Books With The Kindle Colorsoft

Short of starting a riot with fellow readers with my proclivity for cracking spines, I'm also the kind of reader that quite likes to annotate my books – in pen. Generally it's just underlining favorite lines and adding a sticky tab to find it later. With the Kindle Colorsoft I can do this too, with the choice of four highlight colors, functioning as a means to annotate and tab in one with the options for colors to correspond to a different theme, etc.

The Kindle Colorsoft Is Far More Photogenic

Obviously the unique selling point of the Colorsoft is that its screen is in color, offering the Kindle's fantastic paper-like display but with a little more flare. As someone who writes book reviews online and therefore accompanies those reviews with a picture, the Kindle Colorsoft is far more aesthetically pleasing than other Kindles, allowing you to still get the full effect of a book cover, where other eReaders offer a far more monochromatic, dull visual.

There's also plenty of other things about the Kindle Colorsoft that make it a great eReader – though much of this is available across all the Kindle models. You'll get up to 8 weeks of reading time on a single charge. Its glare-free screen means you can read in any weather, with the option to set it to auto adjust to your surroundings. The Kindle Colorsoft is also waterproof, for all that poolside or bath time reading. It's a good looking little device, that's for sure, and a haven for people like me who may have reached the threshold of owning too many books...

I've made no secret of how great I think the new Disney Plus Hulu deal is, and that's in part because I've only seen this $2.99 price over Black Friday – making it about eight months early, with the price predicted to appear once again come November. That in itself feels exciting to me when you consider how rare it is we see streaming deals as good as this. However, it's fair to say the deal on the Disney Plus bundle might not be that good for everybody – and there are definitely drawbacks to this offer I want to be frank about.

What Is The Disney Plus And Hulu Bundle Deal?

The Disney Plus Hulu Bundle Deal Isn't As Good As It Was Over Black Friday

While the price is the same, you can't benefit from the $2.99 a month Disney Plus Hulu bundle offer for as long as you could over Black Friday last November. If you'd subscribed then, you would have been able to secure the 72% saving for the next 12 months. This time around, you'll only get the lower price for your first four months (though this is still in time for some exciting upcoming titles like The Handmaid's Tale's final season). This could mean, come Black Friday 2025, you are eligible to sign up to the deal again, but I obviously don't know with 100% certainty that we will see the same deal again. It does seem likely, though, given the patterns we've seen on the best streaming deals over the last few years.

You Can Only Save On The Ad-Supported Disney Plus Hulu Bundle

Would it hurt Disney Plus to offer a bit of variety? And the rest of the streaming giants out there, for that matter. Whenever there are discounts on the Disney Plus price and the like, it's always on their ad-supported plans. I get it, streaming services want more people to subscribe to the cheaper, ad-supported plans. The more subscribers those packages have, the more they can charge for those ad slots. But for those of us who don't have the patience for commercial breaks every 15 minutes, it would be nice to see some money off the ad-free versions of these bundles. As mentioned above, though, you can only save on the Disney Plus and Hulu ad-supported package.

There Aren't Ever Deals On The Disney Plus and ESPN Plus Or Max Bundles

This isn't dissimilar from my previous point, but wouldn't it be cool if there were at least occasionally deals on the other bundles available? You can throw together Disney Plus with Hulu and ESPN Plus or Max. Obviously it's pricier and the saving would need to reflect that, but these are such great all-encompassing packages that need more time in the limelight. Granted, if you want to watch those services you'll subscribe to your preferred bundle regardless, but if streaming services want to incentivize new sign-ups, I don't see why we can't give a little discount love to some of the other great packages available. Especially with the likes of The Last of Us Season 2 coming up where people who aren't permanently subscribed to Max could be swayed to part with more cash for more entertainment over the baseline $9.99 a month Max plan.

That said, if the deal not having Max is putting you off getting this deal...

If You're Waiting To Watch The Last Of Us, The Disney Plus and Hulu Bundle + Max Is Still Cheaper

It's definitely easier to have one payment covering all three services. However, if you're all good with ads and want all the awesome entertainment from Disney Plus and Hulu, as well as wanting to watch The Last of Us when the new season premieres (or any other new Max releases for that matter), it's still cheaper to subscribe to the current Disney Plus and Hulu deal and then get a direct subscription with Max. Costing $9.99 a month for its ad-supported plan, the total cost for the two would be $12.98 a month. That's a $4 saving on the Disney Plus, Hulu, and Max bundle which costs $16.99 a month.

What Other Disney Plus Bundle Deals Are Available?

Sadly there aren't any offers on the rest of the bundle options. However, if you want to skip out on the $2.99 a month steal, these are the other packages and price points available.

As an NBA diehard, few things are enjoyable to me as attending a game. Never in a million years did I think that streaming a game on my newly purchased Meta Quest 3 would possibly live up to the hype of attending a game in person. After watching a recent game in the Meta Horizon Worlds' NBA Arena, I'm thrilled to say I was wrong, and while I have one big gripe, there's a lot to love about this.

There aren't currently any significant deals on the Meta Quest 3, though the release of the 3S at the end of last year did see the 3 model drop somewhat from its original RRP.

Sure, the buy-in price for a Meta Quest 3 or 3S is still pricey, but there are some cool bundles out there that get you one of the most-acclaimed VR games out there – Batman: Arkham Shadow – and 3 months of Meta Quest+, saving you in the long run.

It also gives a truly unprecedented value in putting NBA fans at some of the hottest games of the season, for free. There are still plenty of games on the schedule to check out for those who haven't or wish to, and if you are on the fence, let me sway you.

The Courtside View Provides An Incredible Experience That Feels Real

I've never paid to sit courtside at an NBA game, but the VR experience certainly showed me why it's worth the price. I could see the physicality of the game up close and personal, I could hear players chatting back and forth during the game, and I could even gauge the odds of a shot going in better than I could at a regular game. It was incredible, and even though I was in my living room, it truly felt like I was there.

What's better is that even when the game goes to commercial, you're still in the arena watching all the fun of giveaways, fan cams, and all of that other stuff. I'm sure actually sitting courtside would be the superior experience, but to travel to multiple NBA arenas a season from the comfort of my living room and get that kind of fun? I think it's a close second. It's certainly way better than the regular TV experience.

Television Commentary Remains, Along With A Bonus View Of The Game Feed

Speaking of, as fun as attending a game can be, I'd be remiss if I didn't mention there are perks to watching on television as well. One thing I always miss is listening to the commentary team, who can fill in the blanks on foul calls and give additional analysis that sports fans may need to better understand the game. Fortunately, that remains in the audio even when watching from courtside, and for those who want to see what the game feed looks like, they need only look up at the NBA Arena jumbotron for the game feed that's airing on television.

Watching At Home Is Loads More Comfortable Than In An Arena

While I love the atmosphere of an NBA game, the seating can leave much to be desired. Stadiums are meant to seat as many people as safety allows, which can make the seats quite cramped.

So, imagine the joy of sitting courtside and doing so with all the arm and leg space in the world on the comfiest chair in your home? I had a beverage on my end table close by, and while it was admittedly tricky to grab while immersed, it was still far better than sitting shoulder to shoulder with strangers. I do not miss having to stand or shift my legs whenever someone needs to pass me during the regular stadium experience.

My One Gripe? Some People Show Up Just To Be Annoying, Which Can Be Frustrating

One thing you learn very quickly when using Meta Horizon Worlds is that there are a lot of people who are simply on there to be annoying. During the game, a guy was running around, not paying attention to the game whatsoever, and was doing his absolute best to try and bother people. He was successful with one poor woman, as he found an interactive beach ball in the stands and blocked her field of vision so that she missed the game's final minute. Not cool bro.

Fortunately, Meta has options to block and mute troublemakers on the platform, but I think the process could be better streamlined so that it's easier for those to access in the heat of the moment. It stunk to be unable to help that woman in the moment, especially after a last-second game winning layup sealed the game.

Beyond that, I can't recommend watching NBA games on the Meta Quest 3 enough, and hope to see more collaborations between professional sports and the platform going forward. Let's get the NFL, MLB, and NHL in on the fun!

For film evangelists, there is likely a very specific way in which someone should watch a movie. Giant 4K TVs and surround sound systems come to mind. Being honest, though, I watch the majority of TV shows and movies on the move on my iPhone. A good pair of headphones is a necessity, then, which is why I'm here to recommend some of the Presidents Day deals going on right now (but not for much longer) on Bose's legendary noise-cancelling headphones.

A victim of a deteriorating attention span, about the only time I'm able to sit down and watch anything is when I'm trapped in a metal box hurtling from A to B with little to no choice but to sit back and be told a story. Often it's a book, but sometimes I'll opt to watch something when the best streaming deals crop up.

Sounds perfect for movies, if you ask me.

It's award season, which means there are a ton of movies slowly making their way to streaming. With the Oscars just a couple of weeks away, Peacock has launched the first deal from a streaming service in 2025 – and it's a huge 63% off a whole year of its Peacock Premium subscription.

Working out at just $2.49 a month, prepay for a whole year upfront and it'll cost you just $29.99 to get access to some of the biggest movies everyone is talking about right now. These include those with plenty of Oscar nominations, such as Conclave, Wicked, and The Wild Robot. Of course, there's also the new Bridget Jones movie, at the top of the romcom hierarchy.

Could it be too much of a good thing where Renée Zellweger's iconic heroine is concerned? Absolutely not, with each film seeing the titular character at different points in her life, but always – always – in a big pair of knickers and with a romantic dalliance or two keeping her busy. Following on from 2016's Bridget Jones' Baby, it's nine years later and Bridget is widowed with two children. Much to the devastation of OG fans, dashing Mark Darcy (Colin Firth) has passed away. Four years into her grief, Bridget is looking to get back into the saddle and wade into the murky waters of modern day dating AKA the dreaded apps... Also starring Leo Woodall, Chitwetel Ejiofor, and Hugh Grant, it's sure to be another hilarious romp.

Wicked Part One

My one negative note about this adaptation of an adaptation (it was a book first, y'all) is that we didn't get the whole thing in one go. But also, I get it: how are we meant to cope with Jonathan Bailey in both "Dancing Through Life" and "As Long As You're Mine" in one movie. I would probably go into cardiac arrest. Anyway. You'll soon be able to watch Wicked: Part One through Peacock. While a date hasn't been announced as of yet, it is imminent and considering the Peacock deal is for a whole year, you'll be able to squeeze in as many viewings of this musical as you like. And if you've been living under a rock, Wicked: Part One brings the Broadway musical to the silver screen, traversing the origin story of The Wizard of Oz's villain, the Wicked Witch of the West and her friendship with the Good Witch. Starring Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba and Ariana Grande as Glinda, Wicked: Part One has ten nominations at the upcoming Oscars.

Conclave

Also with a handful of Oscar nominations itself, you can watch Conclave right now on Peacock, starring Ralph Fiennes. Directed by Edward Berger, this thriller also stars Stanley Tucci, John Lithgow, and Isabella Rossellini, and follows a sacred event that has remained secret since ancient times – the selection of a new Pope. In this thriller, Cardinal Lawrence (Fiennes) is tasked with orchestrating the process after the unexpected death of the current Pope. Bringing together the most powerful leaders in the Catholic Church, they must stow themselves away in the Vatican and pick from candidates. Finding himself at the heart of a conspiracy, Conclave won Best Screenplay at the Golden Globes and is nominated for eight Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Fiennes has picked one up for Best Actor.

The Wild Robot

Another Oscars nominee, The Wild Robot is up for Best Animated Feature Film and features a star-studded line-up including Lupita Nyong'o, Pedro Pascal, Kit Connor, and Bill Nighy. Equal amounts heartwarming and perhaps surprisingly terrifying, The Wild Robot sees a robot called Roz (Nyong'o) shipwrecked on an uninhabited island. Roz must learn to survive in the harsh climate, and over time forms bonds with the other animals living on the island. This includes a fox voiced by Pascal and an orphaned gosling called Brightbill that Roz must help to take care of. The holidays can often feel like the most magical time of the year, largely due to the mix of frosty weather and colorful decorations, with shopping and gift-giving also part of that elixir. (Heavy traffic, however, is not part of that mixture.) Overall, the world of absurd Yellowstone merchandise is vast and ever-expanding (especially with more upcoming Yellowstone shows on the way), and honestly, they make for some very good and creative gifts. So, if you have a fan of this show in your life and you are looking for a way to commemorate these last five seasons, maybe consider buying one or more of these items.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has become quite expansive and features various people, locations, objects etc. There are plenty of elements of Disney’s high-grossing IP that are heavily discussed by fans, and one is the timeline. It can sometimes be difficult to chronically trace the events that transpire across the movies, TV shows and shorts that make up the continuity, and I’ve struggled with that myself. So I’m very surprised I don’t own the official MCU timeline book, and fans should as well ahead of the highly anticipated Avengers: Doomsday. Honestly, it would make a great last minute Christmas gift for any Marvel fan.

Why I Personally Want This Sweet MCU-Centric Book

In 2023, Marvel Studios The Marvel Cinematic Universe An Official Timeline was released. Written by Anthony Breznican, Amy Ratcliffe and Rebecca Theodore-Vachon, the comprehensive book dives deep into the bombastic chain of events that have unfolded during the MCU’s first four phases. So one might learn just when Captain America woke up in the present day ahead of the events of The Avengers. There may also be those who want to know the span of time in between Scarlet Witch’s appearances in WandaVision and Doctor Strange 2.

This sublime piece of text appeals to me for more than a few reasons. One of the obvious factors is that I’m a longtime fan of this continuity and am eager to know every little bit of it. Not only that but, as I alluded to above, it hasn’t always been easy for me to track major events in the MCU. Sure, I’ve watched the Marvel movies in order a number of times, though the events of those films don’t always take place in real time. For example, I was totally thrown off by that flub in 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming.

Simply put, I want to grab this timeline guide, activate my Disney+ subscription and stream the Infinity and Multiverse Sagas while reading along in the book. You may be a fan who’s not sold on this book immediately, but believe me when I say you should consider making this purchase.

Why This Book Is Truly A Must-Own For Marvel Fans

Some upcoming Marvel movies are going to be quite eventful and have a major impact on the cinematic universe as a whole. The two films that could truly be game changing for the franchise from a narrative standpoint are Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars, which will debut in 2026 and 2027, respectively. Rumors have been swirling around the films, which are being directed by the returning Joe and Anthony Russo. It can be tough to nail down the perfect gifts to please everybody around the holidays, but at discounts like these, I just don’t see how I could pass up the opportunity to invest in not just a series to watch over and over again, but the ultimate collection item for TV fans. Given its growth, you'd think the streaming giant would want to give back, but that's just not the case, and I question why anyone expects anything less. However, there are still services you can get deals for this Cyber Monday, but you need to pull your finger out and sign up now, because most of them will be ending today. Forget Netflix, let me tell you about the Cyber Monday streaming deals that actually exist and are worth considering.

While I'm not altogether happy about any price hikes – who is?! – at least other services are discounting their deals. I've been writing about streaming services for more than 5 years and I've never seen Netflix offer anything but more reasons to abort mission. However, focusing on the positive, you currently have less than 15 hours to get the $2.99 a month Disney Plus and Hulu bundle.

Max's price drop on its With-Ads plan is also ending today. So subscribe for $2.99 a month for the next six months, before it defaults back to $9.99 a month.

Peacock is offering deals on both its monthly and annual plans, though I recommend the latter for the best deal. It works out as $1.66 a month, though you'll pay the $19.99 upfront for the whole year (down from $79.99 annually). Otherwise, it's $1.99 monthly deal is only available on your first six months.

You've got a bit longer to think about subscribing to Paramount Plus' deal. Both plans are down to just $2.99 a month, though only for your first two months – which is a bit stingy of the service, if you ask me. But it ends on December 4, so, like I said, you have time to think it over.

After starring in one of the earliest alternative Christmas movies, Lethal Weapon, Mel Gibson returns to festive fare with Fatman. With fewer and fewer kids making the ‘nice’ list, Chris Cringle’s business is in trouble. And when a sadistic and spoiled rich kid finds nothing but coal in their stocking, things go from bad to worse for the unorthodox Santa as a hitman (Walton Goggins) is sent his way, out for revenge. Somewhat of a slow burn, when the carnage finally does begin in Fatman, it’s epic, 80s action movie type stuff with Gibson’s grizzled performance a perfect alternate take on Mr Claus.

Die Hard

No alternative Christmas movie list would be complete without the most iconic of them all, and the first (and best) of John McClane’s adventures is an absolute Christmas classic. Put the debate about whether it is or isn’t a festive flick to bed (it is) and enjoy Bruce Willis at his wisecracking best as the NYPD cop trying to save his wife Holly (Bonnie Bedelia), beat the bad guys and get the family back together in time for Christmas using nothing but his wits and his Beretta. Alan Rickman is outstanding as the dastardly Hans Gruber and John McTiernan’s direction is pure 80s adrenaline. Yippee Ki-Yay.

Mixed Nuts

This underrated Steve Martin comedy follows the workers of a crisis hotline in Venice Beach on Christmas Eve as they deal with the threat of eviction, a serial strangler on the loose and a twisted love triangle. Throughout the night, they cross paths with penniless parents to be, a depressed drag artist, a wacky song-writer and more, just trying to make it to Christmas morning. Martin swings effortlessly between the deadpan and the madcap, and a supporting cast of diverse characters keep the film ticking along nicely. Mixed Nuts was Nora Ephron’s follow up to Sleepless in Seattle, and while by no means a classic on that level, is still a must watch for those who prefer the darker side of the holidays.

In 2023, though, the 99 cents deal returned, making this the third time subscribers have been able to subscribe – made even more delicious when you consider the plan saw its first price increase in a while from $7.99 a month to $9.99 a month. Prefer a projector? Epson's EpiqVision Mini EP21 is a 1080p smart laser projector, and right now it's down $300 on Best Buy with a price tag of just $599.99.

If you asked me to recommend one thing that would improve any TV, I'd say a soundbar: even the best TVs typically have fairly weedy sound systems, and if you want the full movie soundtrack experience then a good soundbar would be a vast improvement. And a fancy setup like the JBL Bar 9.1 would be even more vast. That's down from $1,199 to $799.99 at Amazon while Samsung's excellent HW-990D is down from $1,997 to $1,049 at Walmart.

Don't need all those channels? Sony's superb HT-S2000 is a 3.1 channel superstar and right now it's down from $499 to $298.

Black Friday streaming device deals

Adding a good streamer doesn't get much cheaper than this: Amazon's Fire TV Stick HD is down from $39.99 to $17.99, which is the same as some new movies cost to rent for one night. The even better Fire TV Stick 4K Max is down from $59.99 to $32.99. I'm not currently seeing any good deals on the Apple TV 4K, which is the streaming device I bought for myself and the one I recommend if you're not on a tight budget, but I'm optimistic that some deals on that will drop in the next couple of days.

Black Friday surround sound deals

I'm not going to list lots of speaker deals because I'd be here forever and you'd fall asleep: there are tons. But if you're into serious surround sound then there are some really nice deals out there on AV receivers.

I love Onkyo amps – I've got one at the heart of my hi-fi setup - and this deal on the TX-SR494 7.2-channel AV receiver is a doozy: it's $150 off at Best Buy, bringing the price down to $299. The 5.2-channel Sony STRD-H590 is $100 off, down to a very reasonable $249.99. And I can attest that the Sony STRDH790, a 7.2 model with Atmos and Dolby Vision, is a good buy at $349; that's the AV receiver I use when it's movie time at home, and mine cost an awful lot more than that when I bought it during lockdown. It's a brilliant buy.

One of the most talked-about winter movies is Red One, Dwayne Johnson and Chris Evans’ holiday action-comedy. And with the best Black Friday deals already arriving, that got me thinking. Is it possible to fill Santa's sack entirely with Black Friday bargains where every one is a – yes! – Red One? With nothing but a color swatch of Rudolph's nose I endeavored to find out.

First up, I headed for Best Buy. And on the very first page I found something that I'd actually want to buy: the 5.5 quart KitchenAid Lift Stand Mixer in Empire Red. How much can you save on the red one? A whopping $170, bringing it down to just $279.99.

Could I do more? I could. The (PRODUCT)RED iPhone 14 Plus is on sale too, down $100 to $699. Other colors are available, but naturally I'm going for the red one.

Sadly pickings were slimmer among the computer accessories, but I did manage to find a rather nice red mouse: Logitech's M325s wireless ambidextrous mouse, down $5. Not a huge saving, I know. But that brings the total down to just fifteen bucks.

Could I find a red camera? The Fujifilm Instax on Walmart was close but not close enough in its fetching pink, down $68 to $99, and while I liked its looks I felt that the Insta360 Ace Pro Action Camera at B&H Photo and Video with its red-accented GoPro-esque design was probably a bit of a reach too. Nice price, though: $50 off, bringing it down to just $299.99. But at last I managed to find a properly red one on the same site: the OM System Tough TG-7, down $50 to $499.99.

Time to hit Target with its reassuringly red logo, where straightaway I found red-nosed reindeer women's slippers for $30, a $10 saving. There was tons of other Santa-themed stuff but I felt that would be cheating, so I hit the tech section instead and found the JBL Flip 6 in a nice red colorway for $79.95, a $50 saving.

Target's home section turned out to be something of a Santa's grotto: the first page of home deals included a rather fetching red Staub roasting dish, down from $71 to $49. Is a Grenadine Staub skillet a red one? I'm saying yes. That's down from a frightening $386 to a slightly less frightening $269.99. Staub seems to be a pretty good brand for red things: I found lots of bakeware and cookware in various reddish hues.

What's more fun than a pastry dish? Pretty much everything, if I'm honest. So let's leave those behind and look at the world of sex toys instead. Womanizer's Starlet 2 contact-free massager is down from $79 to $55 and available in a cheerful Cherry Red, while the rose-colored Rose Toy range with its pulsing petals is available in a wide range of models including ones with tongues and other attachments to put in various places. Many of them are available with Black Friday deals of around 10-20% off.
