While it’s been four years since Modern Family came to an end and it ranks as one of the best sitcoms of all time, fans are still not over the potential that Adam DeVine’s Andy Bailey could have had. When the Pitch Perfect star joined the ABC sitcom in Season 5 as Jay and Gloria’s male nanny, or “manny,” and later a Realtor assistant, he quickly became a fan-favorite, especially when he was dating Haley. However, it wasn’t always so easy, as DeVine had an awkward first day of filming with Sofia Vergara that came with a strict note from an EP.

DeVine recurred on Modern Family for Seasons 5-7 and made a brief appearance in Season 9. Even though it’s been 11 years now since he made his debut on the sitcom, he still vividly remembers how the experience started. He spoke to People about his time on the show, recalling what co-creator and executive producer Steve Levitan told him about the dialogue:

Some shows and films rely on improv, and it can make certain scenes feel all the more real. Considering just how hilarious and relatable Modern Family was, it’s not surprising that one of the first notes from Levitan was to improv to try something fresh five seasons in. However, it doesn’t always work out as intended, as DeVine revealed just how downhill things went and the unpleasant reaction he got from Vergara:

It sounds as awkward as I can possibly imagine, and it’s not the first impression that DeVine wanted to make on his first day. While improv is not unusual in some productions, it's not a fit for all shows. The Workaholics vet shared another note that Levitan told him following the debacle, and he learned an important lesson:

Considering Adam DeVine managed to stick around for a few seasons and nearly had a permanent on-screen relationship with a main character, his first day didn’t make a bad impression, which is good. Plus, he also learned a lot and got to know just how sitcoms work. The more he was on the show, he probably started to pick up on the dos and don’ts of scripted comedy acting.

DeVine did likely use what he was taught for the Pitch Perfect spinoff, Bumper in Berlin, on Peacock. The series only lasted a season, despite initially being renewed for Season 2. Regardless, the notes that he got from Modern Family left an impact, and he now knows that improv may not always be the best direction. At the very least, his awkward first day didn’t seem to matter much when it came to his future on the series, and fans with a Hulu subscription can watch his Modern Family appearances.

For a while, it looked like the renewal of the Peacock original series Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin would be an advance, but recent news has seen Season 2 going from a “renewed” to “unrenewed” status. Pitch Perfect: Bumper In Berlin’s Wild Ride From Renewal To Cancellation

At the beginning of the year, Adam DeVine found himself on a professional roller coaster of emotions. Around the same time the Workaholics movie was canceled at Paramount+, the news came down that his Peacock series Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin was renewed for Season 2. It was a classic case of taking the good with the bad, and DeVine was still in business. 

Alas, that leads us to this most horrible update, as Deadline reported that the streaming expansion of the Universal musical-comedy hit has been rescinded. The write-up bearing the bad news specifies that while this chapter has come to an end, the studio is still interested in keeping Pitch Perfect alive in its stable of IP. That still doesn’t help the fact that Bumper in Berlin has become the latest victim of the trend known as the “unrenewal.”

How Bumper In Berlin Became The Latest Casualty Of “Unrenewal”

Included as the cause of death in the news pertaining to Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin was, unsurprisingly, the twin strike actions of the WGA and SAG-AFTRA. With the work stoppage currently putting productions on hold, schedules and budgets are being affected in such a way that projects previously approved are now dropping off.

Amazon Studios canceled two shows under the same circumstances, leading to The Peripheral and A League of Their Own’s second seasons being jettisoned. In a fitting comment during his interview with our own Riley Utley, Pitch Perfect star Utkarsh Ambudkar invoked the strikes as an obstacle for his potential return to that world, and the series about Bumper. Sadly, that prediction has now become even more prescient, thanks to Peacock's recent decision.

Fate has been pretty fickle with the world of streaming originals, but that’s not to say that there isn’t a slim hope of retraction. One truly can't predict where the axe will swing next, especially with the October 1st deadline to save the 2023-2024 TV season looming ever clearly.

While the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes are being waged in the name of fair pay and better working conditions, it seems to be an unfortunate reality that the unrenewal bug just might be all the more contagious as time goes on. But perhaps there's hope in the one place that's always faithful: the fans.

Maybe if enough Pitch Perfect loyalists with a Peacock subscription rally around the single season of Bumper in Berlin, the numbers will convince the decision-makers to reverse that cancellation once the strikes conclude. It’s not much, but this seems like the best hope for undoing what has already been undone.

Over the last decade and change, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has grown into a wildly popular franchise that spans both movies and television. But there’s been some conversation over superhero fatigue, and the possible negative effect of the superhero genre. Actor Adam DeVine recently got into hot water over comments he made about how Marvel “ruined comedies.” And after DeVine clarified what he meant, he’s finding other things to blame the MCU for. Because who doesn’t love a running joke?

Adam DeVine made headlines earlier this week when claiming that the Marvel blockbuster method of filmmaking has discouraged studios from making mid-level comedy movies. This quickly went viral online, thanks to the droves of loyal MCU fans out there. After clarifying what he meant, DeVine tweeted out a new post that references his comments. Check it out below: 

I mean, you have to give it up for the Pitch Perfect actor. Rather than trying to pretend his comments about Marvel didn’t happen, he’s already leaning in and poking fun over the situation. Although anyone who knows his work in projects like Workaholics and Modern Family will know that DeVine is an accomplished comedian.

Like so many of us, Adam DeVine has recently experienced some trouble flying lately. He recently had a flight delayed, which resulted in him missing his connection. But rather than blaming the airline responsible for the snafu, he’s putting it all on Marvel. Since they “ruined” comedies, who knows what the comic book powerhouse is capable of?

As previously mentioned, comments DeVine made about Marvel and comedy quickly circulated online, as most things related to the MCU are wont to do. The chatter got so loud that DeVine ended up making a clarification about what he meant, saying:

While the Out-Laws actor/producer doesn’t seem explicitly anti-Marvel, but is commenting about how superhero mania has impacted the entertainment industry as a whole. But hopefully Adam DeVine keeps poking fun at the viral comments in future social media posts.

Perhaps the reason that DeVine’s comments circulated so much online was because the superhero genre has had some vocal critics as of late. Martin Scorsese infamously referred to the genre as “not cinema,” equating them to theme parks. Quentin Tarantino also expressed that superhero movies just aren’t for him.

Adam DeVine has made a career from being in some of the most popular comedy projects out there. From his breakthrough performance in the Pitch Perfect films, to his current role on HBO’s fan favorite series The Righteous Gemstones, the actor has become one of the funniest stars of the modern era. Despite being successful in the genre, he recently received backlash after claiming that the Marvel Cinematic Universe killed comedy. Now, he's clarifying his comments in an attempt to clear the air. 

The actor went viral due to comments he made during an installment of Theo Von's This Past Weekend podcast. He surmised that "Marvel ruined" the landscape, because general audiences are now mostly drawn to films with massive budgets as opposed to mid-level comedies. MCU fans swiftly took offense to the notion that the superhero films had negatively impacted the genre. But the Workaholics alum doesn't seem to actually have a dislike of Disney's comic book franchises. He explained that he is a fan of the MCU but also sought to make a point. He took to X (formerly Twitter) to explain his position, saying:

Adam Devine makes a fair point and isn’t alone in having that opinion. Critics have been saying for years that the advent of “event films” like MCU movies has eliminated lower to mid-budget films at the box office, and there is certainly some truth to that. Despite an aggressive campaign, last year’s studio comedy Bros tanked at the box office, and many were surprised when the Jennifer Lawrence-led R-rated romp, No Hard Feelings, got a theatrical release this year. The latter did decent theatrical business, yet long gone are the days when movies like The Hangover and Bridesmaids saw massive openings. Now, these types of movies tend to end up on streaming services.

Marvel Studios alone may not be responsible but, for a while blockbuster superhero and franchise movies seemed to be the only films primarily doing great business. Martin Scorsese got a lot of flack for pointing this out and saying they take up a lot of screens at the theaters, not allowing smaller films to shine. The tide may be starting to turn, however, as Barbie and Oppenheimer are doing unexpectedly well in the theaters. Both are massive films, but they also represent original ideas crafted by auteurs. Meanwhile, big-ticket cape movies like Ant Man: Quantumania and The Flash saw major box office drops and failed to meet expectations. All in all, moviegoers seem to be becoming more discerning when it comes to what they watch at the theater.

Despite the lack of mid-budget comedies at cinema, Adam Devine has found a way to have a successful comedy career within the streaming world. He starred in the action comedy The Out-Laws this year, which had a Netflix release. He also produces and leads the Pitch Perfect spin-off, Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin which is streaming for Peacock subscribers. The MCU didn’t ruin the existence of comedy, it just seems like it is happening somewhere else. And based on his latest comments, I guess Devine is just nostalgic for the Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates days.

While comedy star Adam Devine has various projects he’s kept busy with, the hope was always to return to the Workaholics franchise that helped make him a name. As one last ride was supposed to be produced as a streaming-exclusive movie, this spring’s cancellation put that possibility on ice. Hope was still in the air though, as Devine and his co-stars Blake Anderson and Anders holm were hoping to sell the project to another streamer.

That prospect doesn’t sound very likely at the moment thanks to an update that The Out-Laws delivered to me personally, during an interview to promote the film. Taking place before the recent SAG-AFTRA strike, both Adam Devine and Nina Dobrev spoke to me about their work on the action rom-com that’s new on Netflix this month.

Naturally, talk turned to this intended conclusion to the Comedy Central sitcom, which ran for seven seasons between 2011 and 2017. The official update that Devine shared with CinemaBlend places the Workaholics movie in this particularly tough spot:

Up until its cancellation, the Workaholics movie was supposed to shoot this past spring. However, when Devine shared the renewal of his Pitch Perfect spinoff series, it came with the news that Paramount+ had pulled the plug on the movie. With just weeks to go before production was supposed to begin, the actor had to deliver news that he described as “the loosest butthole.”

Adam Devine’s news also revealed a rather interesting paradox. On one hand, his announcement of the movie’s cancellation cited a lack of fitting into the platform’s “new “global” strategy” caused the axe to swing. But on the other hand, as seen in the remarks made above by The Out-Laws star, shopping Workaholics’ grand finale is being blocked by Paramount not wanting to sell the rights to the project to anyone who might be remotely interested. 

It’s the worst catch-22 scenario one can think of, especially because Adam Devine's 2016 Netflix movie Game Over, Man! was inspired by a Workaholics episode. With his connection to the studio still pretty strong, especially thanks to The Out-Laws, you'd think that'd be a natural home for this forsaken pitch. 

However, the silver lining for the moment is that actor and Out-Laws co-star Nina Dobrev, who actually appeared on the show because of her desire to work on friend Adam Devine’s sitcom, had her own thoughts on the matter. Sharing with CinemaBlend why she things this project might be in a holding pattern, Dobrev and Devine outlined a cool pitch that could keep this flick alive:

"Nina Dobrev: Maybe they’re waiting for you guys to get a little older, so that it’s even funnier that you’re still the same. You’re like grey…

Adam Devine: …full grey. Blake has lost all of his hair, I’m in an electric wheelchair."

Should Adam Devine get his wish, he’ll get to “bring the weird one last time” with co-stars/friends Blake Anderson and Anders Holm. That is, if the decision-makers at Paramount+ decide to either reverse the cancellation of the Workaholics movie, or if they allow another interested party to produce it. By the time that decision is made, it just might be a good idea to make a version of the project where our trio of slackers are still up to their old tricks, despite the ravages of time. 

Though it's cancelled for now, it sounds like the Workaholics crew are still happy to step up, if and when the time comes. While the world waits for what comes next, the entire run of the series that started it all can currently be streamed with a Paramount+ subscription. As for The Out-Laws, Adam Devine and Nina Dobrev’s runaway romance can only be streamed on Netflix.

A scene of intimacy can be daunting, whether it’s just a little kiss or something much more intense. For Adam Devine, his time filming the new Netflix comedy The Out-Laws came with a fun challenge in that arena, as he had to get up close and personal with a movie legend. Not once, but twice, does the man get to kiss Pierce Brosnan in this action rom-com, which leads one to wonder, how do you prepare for that? 

Well, it apparently involves not a lot of thought, but some over-the-counter cosmetic magic instead. At least, that’s what I was told when speaking with Devine and his co-star Nina Dobrev on behalf of this weekend’s release of The Out-Laws. The romantic action/comedy is part of what’s new on Netflix in July, and the three of us dug into some of the exciting feats that came with the territory. 

So when I asked Adam Devine how he readied himself to kiss a man who’s undoubtedly one of the most charming movie stars we have today, this is what he shared with CinemaBlend: 

Despite the intense charm of The Thomas Crown Affair actor, there’s no romance behind this pair of moments between Devine and Brosnan. Actually, it all starts with the former James Bond introducing himself to his future son-in-law with a surprise kiss rather than a firm and traditional handshake. 

It’s a moment that cashes in on that gregarious charm Pierce Brosnan has been known for, while also throwing Adam Devine’s Owen off guard. So one could see why this Workaholics veteran wouldn’t want to overthink the moment, as the closest he can get to Owen’s shock and surprise, the better. Also, Devine probably realized, like any sane person with a Netflix subscription, that there’s no “being ready” for kissing Pierce Brosnan. It’s just a situation you need to dive into and report about afterwards. 

As the cast of The Out-Laws includes people like Lil Rel Howery, Ellen Barkin and Michael Rooker, you can already think of some of the crazy stuff this ensemble has done for other projects. This comedy’s leading man is no exception to that roster of achievements, as Devine did do full-frontal nudity for his previous Netflix movie Game Over, Man!. So really, how crazy was two kisses with the fifth James Bond?

While he may not have consciously prepared himself for the craziness of Happy Madison’s latest endeavor in the streaming realm, the actor did have the right stuff needed to return that kiss in a huge callback gag. I won’t spoil the fun as to how Adam Devine bookends his Pierce Brosnan kiss. I will, however, encourage you to check out The Out-Laws for yourself, as it’s currently streaming on Netflix. 

Hollywood has shown audiences a ton of different versions of the “meeting the parents” scenario, with some clear hits and misses along the way. Netflix is hoping that its latest take on the couple's rite of passage in The Out-Laws provides enough of a twist to attract an audience with its new action comedy, available to stream with a Netflix subscription as of July 7. Adam Devine and Nina Dobrev star as the to-be-married duo, and the critics who were able to screen the movie ahead of its release have weighed in with their thoughts about the action rom-com.

In addition to the Workaholics and The Vampire Diaries actors as Owen and Parker, respectively, The Out-Laws also stars Pierce Brosnan and Ellen Barkin as Parker’s parents. All is not as it appears for bank manager Owen when his future in-laws turn out to be criminals nicknamed the “Ghost Bandits,” and his fiancée is kidnapped. Let’s see what the critics have to say about the Netflix romp, starting with Collider’s Tania Hussain. She grades the movie a C-, but admits it’s often laugh-out-loud funny, saying: 

Murtada Elfadl of Variety points to films with similar plotlines, like Meet the Parents and Fun with Dick and Jane, as examples of why The Out-Laws could have been funnier. However, the critic says the screenplay resorts to juvenile humor targeting the lowest common denominator. Elfadi continues: 

If The Out-Laws fails in the eyes of the critics, however, it’s possibly not for lack of trying. Noel Murray of the L.A. Times finds its raunchiness and action sequences “a bit too much,” explaining: 

Pete Hammond of Deadline says audiences willing to settle for sheer mayhem will be engaged, but the Netflix film fails to deliver the fun and heart the stacked cast is capable of. Hammond writes: 

David Ehrlich of IndieWire gives The Out-Laws the grade of C, calling the action comedy “passable,” with Ellen Barkin and Pierce Brosnan being better than they needed to be for the movie with what the critic calls a “first-drafty” feel. Ehrlich continues: 

With a Rotten Tomatoes critics rating of just 26%, this “meet the parents” action comedy may not be getting off to the strongest start. But despite any issues people have with the script, many who have seen the movie found things to enjoy in the performances and with some raunchy chuckle-worthy humor.

Adam DeVine (Owen) 

First up is Adam DeVine, who appears in The Out-Laws as Owen, a bank manager whose future in-laws are believed to be a pair of criminals named the “Ghost Bandits.”

Best known for his portrayal of Adam DeKamp on the Comedy Central series, Workaholics, DeVine has also had a major role in the Pitch Perfect movies (as well as the Peacock spinoff series, Bumper in Berlin). Over the years, the actor has led shows like Adam DeVine’s House Party, Uncle Grandpa, Green Eggs and Ham, and countless others. His film credits include everything from Nancy Meyers’ The Intern to Have a Good Trip: Adventures in Psychedilics, and so much more. 

Nina Dobrev (Parker)

Nina Dobrev appears as Owen’s fiancée, Parker, who ends up being held hostage after one of her parents’ latest scores ticks off the wrong person.

Dobrev has been a well-known name in the world of TV for the past couple of decades thanks to roles on shows like Degrassi: The Next Generation and The Vampire Diaries, on which she played not one, but two different characters throughout the series’ run. Over the years, the actress has also appeared in movies like XXX: Return of Xander Cage, The Perks of Being a Wallflower adaptation, Chloe, and a couple dozen others. 

Pierce Brosnan (Billy McDermott) 

Next up is Pierce Brosnan, who plays Parker’s bank-robbing dad, Billy McDermott.

Though instantly recognizable from his four James Bond movies (a role that is addressed in The Out-Laws trailer), Brosnan has a ton of other credits that would have made a great career even without having 007 tied to his name. Shows like Remington Steele, movies like Mrs. Doubtfire, The Thomas Crown Affair, and the Mamma Mia! musicals, all quickly come to mind. The actor has even appeared in several 007 video games throughout his career, including 2004’s James Bond 007: Everything or Nothing, which featured his voice in addition to his likeness. 

Ellen Barkin (Lilly McDermott) 

Ellen Barkin shows up in The Out-Laws as Lilly McDermott, Owen’s soon-to-be mother-in-law and an accomplished bank robber.

Over the years, Barkin has made a name for herself on the big screen, on a number of TV shows, and in Broadway performances like the one in The Normal Heart, for which she earned a Tony Award. If you’re a fan of movies like Drop Dead Gorgeous, Ocean’s Thirteen, and even The Big Easy, then you more than likely recognized the actress. The same can be said about shows like The New Normal, Animal Kingdom, and the Peacock original series, Poker Face. 

Michael Rooker (FBI Agent Roger Oldham)

Michael Rooker portrays Roger Oldham, an FBI agent hot on the trail of the Ghost Bandits and their latest escapades.

From his appearances in some of the best Marvel movies to his time in The Walking Dead cast, there are a lot of reasons why Rooker looks so familiar. One of the best and most prolific character actors of our time, the frequent James Gunn collaborator has done a little bit of everything over the years, including classics like JFK, Eight Men Out, and even Cliffhanger, to name only a few. Seriously, he’s done it all. 

Richard Kind (Neil) 

Richard Kind is another prolific actor appearing in the film, where he can be seen playing Owen’s father, Neil.

Fans of Pixar movies like Inside Out, A Bug’s Life, Toy Story 3, and various other animated classics will more than likely recognize Kind’s voice as soon as he comes on screen in the new Netflix movie. The same can be said about those who have long watched Curb Your Enthusiasm, Spin City, and even some of the best episodes of Scrubs. There’s a chance that everyone reading this has seen or heard Kind over the years. 

Julie Hagerty (Margie)

Julie Hagerty appears in The Out-Laws as Owen’s mom, Margie.

If you’re a fan of classic parody movies, then you’ll surely remember Hagerty from her portrayal of Elaine Dickinson in Airplane! and its 1982 sequel. Over the years, Hagerty has popped up in movies like What About Bob?, Confessions of a Shopaholic, Instant Family, and most recently, A Christmas Story Christmas. 

Lil Rel Howery (Tyree) 

Next up is Lil Rel Howery, who shows up as Tyree, one of Owen’s co-workers at the bank.

Over the course of the past decade, Howery has become one of the most recognizable faces in comedy thanks to scene-stealing performances in movies like Get Out, Uncle Drew, and even Bird Box. The actor and comedian has also had a successful TV career as well, with roles on series like The Carmichael Show, Insecure, Craig of the Creek, and in his own short-lived sitcom titled Rel. 

Poorna Jagannathan (Rehan)

Poorna Jagannathan takes on the role of Rehan, a dangerous criminal who takes Parker hostage after her parents’ latest bank robbery.

Fans of another Netflix original, Never Have I Ever, will surely recognize Jagannathan from her portrayal of Dr. Nalini Vishwakumar, but she has a ton of other credits to her name. Over the years, she has appeared on shows like Ramy, Gypsy, The Night Of, House of Cards, Royal Pains, and multiple others. As far as her film credits are concerned, the actress has been in movies like The Weather Man, The Circle, and Share. She’s also slated to appear in the upcoming adaptation of Turtles All the Way Down. 

Lauren Lapkus (Phoebe)

Lauren Lapkus plays Phoebe, another manager at Owen’s bank.

Lapkus has appeared in a number of Netflix productions throughout her career, including the 2020 romantic comedy, The Wrong Missy, and one of the streamer’s first original shows, Orange is the New Black. Over the years, she has also landed roles in movies like Happiest Season, Opening Night, and Jurassic World. 

Laci Mosley (Marisol)

Next up is Laci Mosley, who appears in The Out-Laws as Marisol, an employee at Owen’s bank.

If you are a fan of A Black Lady Sketch Show, the Paramount+ original series iCarly, or Lopez vs Lopez, then you should definitely recognize her. Over the years, Mosley has also made small appearances on everything from Insecure to Kenan and Better Call Saul to Sherman’s Showcase. 

Blake Anderson (RJ)

And then there is Blake Anderson, who appears as Owen’s cousin, RJ.

Over the years, Anderson has worked with his The Out-Laws co-star Adam DeVine a number of times, with their biggest collaboration being the long-running Workaholics, which they co-created more than a decade ago. Anderson was also a major part of the 2018 Netflix movie, Game Over, Man! alongside DeVine and their longtime collaborator, Anders Holm.

For this week’s episode, she teased a seemingly tense conversation – during which she tells the unseen interview subject that she “was a huge Maroon 5 fan.” She then goes on to thank the person for agreeing to discuss “the infidelity” in their marriage. It’s convincing for a second or two but, as it turns out, Cooper isn’t talking to the famed frontman. See who the true guest is in the preview, which was posted to Instagram: 

Those who were hoping for a salacious tell-all interview of sorts may have been disappointed, but fans of Adam DeVine probably weren’t. Regardless of where you stand within the cheating conversation, few would deny that this was a cheeky way of referencing it. And clearly even Behati Prinsloo could see the humor in it. That assumption is based on her response to the first teaser that hit social media earlier this week. Check out her comment, which consists of only three letters: 

This response would seem to further suggest that Behati Prinsloo isn’t bothered when it comes to any rumors or barbs aimed at her hubby. Back in October, the model took some time away from the web, but Prinsloo marked her return to social media with a middle finger. During that time, she also consumed with her pregnancy, even sharing photos of a baby photoshoot featuring lingerie, a Burger King crown and more. In January, Prisloo and her hubby welcomed their third child, a little girl. One would assume that she’s on cloud nine right now and has no time to fret about commentary – even any that comes from a star like Adam DeVine. 

Why Did Adam DeVine Get Involved In The Drama?

Considering that their names sound similar, it’s not all that surprising that fans would confuse Adam DeVine with the Voice coach. Not long after the cheating allegations began to surface, DeVine took to Instagram to set the record straight. He specifically shared a picture of himself alongside his wife, Chloe Bridges, and clarified that he’s not the singer/songwriter. This “not Adam Levine” post subsequently received responses from notable celebrities like Alexandra Daddario and Jaleel White. One might be surprised that he even jumped into the convo. He provided his reasoning for doing so during Call Her Daddy’s latest episode:

When considering all of that, you can see why the actor felt compelled to speak out. Can you imagine getting countless DMs with spiteful messages all because of a case of mistaken identity. I’d dare to assume that it’s not all that fun. But then again, the star handled all of this in stride, which was probably to be expected since comedians truly know how to roll with the punches.

Speaking of rolling with the punches, it’s likely that Behati Prinsloo and Adam Levine will have to continue to contend with puns aimed at the purported cheating situation. There’s also, of course, the possibility that more alleged details could reach the surface at some point in the future. When it comes to any playful jabs though, it’s possible that Prinsloo will keep her sense of humor – as long as the jokes aren’t too severe, mind you. As for how her husband chooses to address such pranks, that remains to be seen.

There can be a lot of highs and lows in being an actor. On one day you might find out that the TV show you're on is getting renewed, and on another day you might find out that a project you're working on got cancelled. It can be a roller coaster ride... and today, Adam Devine must be experiencing a lot of g-force, as both of those things happened to him within a few hours of each other. 

The bad news came first, and it was personally delivered to fans of the actor via his personal Instagram page. While Devine had recently been excited for the opportunity to reunite with co-stars Blake Anderson and Anders Holm on a Workaholics movie (based on the series on the same name that aired on Comedy Central for seven seasons), that project is no longer happening. In the social media post, he makes several references to notable pieces of lingo from the show – writing that "this news is the loosest butthole" is that he's "butt-hurt" for his co-stars, fans, and filmmakers who were working on the feature. The Workaholics movie was first announced about two years ago, in February 2021, and, as noted in the post, it was being planned as an original for Paramount+. Production was scheduled to start next month.

While one streaming service with a name starting with the letter "P" was dolling out bummer news, another one provided Adam Devine a much more positive update a few hours later. The actor might not be making a new Paramount+ movie, but his Peacock original series, Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin, has been renewed for a Season 2.  

This news was announced via press release by the streamer, which calls the show "Peacock's #1 comedy" and says that it had the "biggest comedy premiere in Peacock history" when it debuted last fall. A spin-off from the successful Pitch Perfect movies, the show's first season premiered on November 23, 2022 and features Adam Devine reprising his role as a cappella singer Bumper Allen. The cast of the show also includes Flula Borg (who was in Pitch Perfect 2), Sarah Hyland, Lera Abova and Jameela Jamil.

Adam Devine also responded to the Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin news on his Instagram page, and, as you can imagine, it strikes a very different tone than what he posted about the cancelled Workaholics movie. His post is below:

Perhaps I'm reading too much into it, but "@peacocktv gets it" definitely reads like an elbow in the ribs of Paramount+.

While we won't be getting a Workaholics movie now, fans of the Comedy Central series can watch every episode streaming with a Paramount+ subscription. Modern Family fans have long been sad about how things played out between Sarah Hyland's Haley Dunphy and Adam Devine's Andy Bailey. However, they're likely rejoicing now following the release of the Pitch Perfect spin-off series, Bumper in Berlin. In it, Devine reprises his fan-favorite role as Bumper Allen, with former on-screen girlfriend Hyland playing a potential love interest for his character. And based on comments made by Devine, he's more than happy with this lovely twist of fate.

Sarah Hyland and Adam Devine’s characters on the ABC show had a rollercoaster of a relationship, and it almost looked like they were going to end up together. But alas, their paths eventually diverged when Andy returned to his hometown to take a job. With that in mind, it's hard not be excited about the two stars reteaming for Bumper in Berlin. Devine spoke to Parade about working with Hyland again and what it means for him to be able to give fans of the long-running sitcom this kind of reunion:

Bumper in Berlin was certainly a nice way to get the two stars who made up “Handy” back together, and one could argue that their interactions on the new show are just as sweet as the ones on Modern Family, if not more so. In addition, viewers have been able to see the two stars show off their vocal talents, as they've sung solo and done duets thus far.

Sarah Hyland joined the musical series earlier this year, and it marked her first regular acting role on TV since Modern Family ended. She's also been hosting Play-Doh Squished since last year and Love Island USA since this past August. Hyland has remained pretty busy since the Emmy-winning sitcom's conclusion, but this latest gig may be the most satisfying for the fans.

The Bumper in Berlin cast includes some pretty talented actors, though one could argue that former Modern Family cast members Adam Devine and Sarah Hyland are the true anchors of the series. As of right now, it's unclear as to whether there will be a second season of the Pitch Perfect offshoot but, given the way Season 1 concluded, there are certainly more stories that can be told, especially when it comes to Bumper and Heidi a.k.a. “Humper.” 

The reunion, aside Bumper in Berlin gives fans a series starring one of Pitch Perfect’s breakout characters and even included some fun Easter eggs. One can only hope that the Adam Devine-led show manages to get renewed for a second season. That way, we'll get more laughs and singing and even more of Devine and his co-star as the already-endearing Bumper and Heidi.

There was a film that came out in 2012 that truly changed the game for me. It made me hyper-aware of how I wanted my college experience to go and made me all that more excited for it to start, and that film, my friends, is Pitch Perfect. While there are plenty of college-themed movies out there like Legally Blonde or Animal House, this film about a group of girls in an a capella group was something that defined me, and it's a film I continue to love to re-watch to this day. It’s hard to believe that it’s been ten years since it came out. 

However, the one character I never thought would get a spinoff from the Pitch Perfect movies, out of everyone, was Bumper. The character, played by Adam DeVine, was the antagonist in the first film and slowly turned into more of an anti-hero as time went on, and now, he’s getting his own series on Peacock, called Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin. 

The show follows Bumper as he travels to Germany, where he is supposedly huge, and his struggles to make it there, but with any spinoff, there always comes a new cast. Here is where you might have seen the Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin cast before. 

Adam DeVine (Bumper)

We can’t start off a Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin cast list without mentioning the man himself, Bumper, who is played by Adam DeVine. The actor appeared as Bumper in both Pitch Perfect and Pitch Perfect 2, and this will be his first time reprising the role since the first sequel. However, DeVine has done plenty in the world of comedy, in both television and movies. 

If you don’t know him from this franchise, you probably know the actor from his hilarious show, Workaholics on Comedy Central, where he was actually one of the co-creators. It ran from 2011 to 2017 and was very successful. However, DeVine has also done plenty of other television work. He had a major supporting role on the sitcom Modern Family (alongside fellow BIB co-star, Sarah Hyland), and appeared in shows such as Drunk History, Adam DeVine’s House Party, and more. He’s currently a part of the main cast of The Righteous Gemstones. 

DeVine has also appeared in many comedic films, as well, including The Intern, Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates, When We First Met, The Final Girls, Isn’t It Romantic, Magic Camp and others. 

Jameela Jamil (Gisela)

Next up on this Bumper in Berlin cast list, we take a look at Gisella, a rival of Bumper’s in Berlin, and she is portrayed by the lovely Jameela Jamil. The actress is primarily known for her legendary role in the cast of The Good Place, where she played Tahani Al-Jamil, but she’s done plenty of other work in the world of television and movies. 

In TV, she also had a pretty big role as part of the She-Hulk cast on Disney+. Besides that, she’s worked as a host and judge for several competition and reality shows, including The Misery Index, Legendary, and more. Jamil has also offered up her voice for roles in TV shows like DuckTales, Star Trek: Prodigy, Rugrats, Animaniacs, Big City Greens, and more. 

In terms of film, Jamil recently had a role in the cast of DC League of Super-Pets, and has appeared in films such as Jennifer Lopez’s romantic comedy, Marry Me, and How To Build A Girl. 

Flula Borg (Pieter)

If the name Flula Borg sounds familiar, it’s because he actually also appeared in the Pitch Perfect series as Pieter before reprising the role in Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin. If you don't recall, he was in the second film as part of the lead voices of Das Sound Machine, the a capella group from Germany that the Barden Bellas competed against – so, in all honesty, it makes sense that one of those singers would appear in a Pitch Perfect show based in Berlin. 

Borg has been around in the entertainment industry for years. I primarily knew him for many years when he was on YouTube, where he worked with a lot of other big YouTubers, such as Smosh, Miranda Sings, and many more. But, he’s since moved into the TV and film world and has appeared in many movies and television shows. 

Some of the series that Borg has appeared on have included Silicon Valley, Workaholics, Counterpart, The Good Place, Mr. Mayor and several others. He’s also offered his voice up for roles on shows like Centaurworld, Teen Titan’s Go!, Tangled: The Series, and others. 

Borg has also had roles in movies such as The Suicide Squad, 2022’s Luck, Ralph Breaks the Internet, Chip n’ Dale Rescue Rangers and more. 

Sarah Hyland (Heidi)

As mentioned above, Sarah Hyland and Adam DeVine actually have history together on screen prior to their roles in Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin. Before they were Bumper and Heidi, they were actually Andy and Haley in Modern Family, showing that they already have amazing on-screen chemistry together – and making fans upset when their characters called it quits on the show. 

But, that doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy them together again in this series. Sarah Hyland has done so much in television. Besides her main role on Modern Family, she has appeared in several shows such as All My Children, Lipstick Jungle, One Life To Live, Bonnie & Clyde, Veronica Mars, and more. She’s also the current host of Love Island USA. 

Hyland has also appeared in a variety of movies, including Blind Date, Geek Charming, Vampire Academy, See You In Valhalla, The Wedding Year, My Fake Boyfriend and other films. 

Lera Abova (Lina)

Last but not least, we have Lera Abova, who plays a new character called Lina in Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin. Unlike her co-stars, Lera Abova is relatively new to the world of acting and has only appeared in one film so far, called Anna, but I’m sure that after this show she’ll most be seen in a lot more series or movies, so we can see her in action.

What are you the most excited for in Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin? Surely this cast is going to bring the heat to the a capella stage, and I can’t wait to sing along to every single one of the covers that are bound to come. 

The internet has been having a field day with Adam Levine memes after being exposed for allegedly sexting several women outside of his marriage. While his wife Behati Prinsloo is reportedly staying with him, she hasn’t spoken about the scandal. Another TV name did decide to speak up on the subject – The Righteous Gemstones’ Adam Devine. It appears the comedian was catching some strays from online users who confused him for the Maroon lead singer due to their similar-sounding last names. So, Devine created a hilarious “not Adam Levine” post, leading to reactions from Alexandra Daddario, Jaleel White, and other celebrities.

The Funny Adam Devine/Adam Levine Post That Had Celebs Responding

The Workaholics alum took to his Instagram account to address the online confusion between himself and the former The Voice coach. Devine tapped into his stand-up comedy background in his post, cheekily taking a swipe at Levine by calling him “a worse singer.” He also addressed the former Voice coach’s alleged DM to his alleged ex-mistress Sumner Stroh asking if he could name his new baby after her with a second joke.

There’s nothing like a sense of humor to calm down an internet mob. Of course, the star got a few jabs in a while reassuring his followers that his marriage is still strong. It’s nice to know Devine took the whole mix-up in stride. But his infectious humor spilled over into his comment section as multiple celebrities left hilarious responses. 

How Alexandra Daddario And Other Celebs Responded

The White Lotus star Alexandra Daddario was relieved to see the 38-year-old actor’s post. She joked that she had been questioning his character, noting,     

The same couldn’t be said for stand-up comedian Whitney Cummings. She cheekily hinted at knowing Devine was capable of infidelity by responding:

Former Songland judge Ryan Tedder fell right in line with Cumming’s claims by calling out the Pitch Perfect star for some inappropriate behavior on social media. Tedder left an outrageous claim by commenting:

Other commentators laid the personal attack to the side and were seemingly just amused by the post in general. Family Matters’ Jaleel White also responded to Devine’s clarification with a simple: 

While White added funny commentary to the hilarious post, The Big Bang Theory’s Lauren Lapkus had a simple take on the Modern Family alum’s correction. She summed up her feeling by responding, "Phew." The simple responses kept rolling in as Shane West was taken aback by Devine's hilarious take. West didn’t have much to say by replying. "Yooo." Finally, West wasn’t the only one keeping it simple as The Goldberg’s Sam Lerner stepped into the comments. Lerner pared it down even more with a simple acronym that many of us probably related to when we read the post: "LOL."

After Lerner gave his simple take, Devin’s Pitch Perfect family had to speak on his clarifying post. His Pitch Perfect co-star Shelley Regner summed up what his followers may have been feeling by commenting:

Other celebs followed in the Righteous Gemstones star’s footsteps by taking jabs at Adam Levine. SNL alum Melissa Villasenor seemed ready to unload on the Maroon 5 frontman by jokingly saying,

Of course, Devine mentioning he was a better singer led Gaslit’s Adam Ray to vouch for him. Ray hilariously recalled seeing the 38-year-old actor perform during a karaoke session while in Japan.

Other commentators like Nina Dobrev, Angelique Cabral, and Jersey Shore’s JWOWW approved by leaving nothing more than laughing emojis. It seemed like the comedic actor’s post struck a chord with many followers and celebs.

Adam Devine finally cleared up the Adam Levine confusion before it made any impact on his thriving comedic career. Next up, Devine (not Levine) will reprise his role of Bumper Allen in the TV spinoff Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin. If you've been awaiting aca-mazing news on the Pitch Perfect front since the third film in the franchise released in 2017, well, today just might be your lucky day. While it doesn't look like there are plans for Pitch Perfect 4 on the horizon, that doesn't mean that the a cappella shenanigans of the students (and alums) of Barden University are completely over, as it's been announced that the movie is set to become a streaming TV series, and will star one of the film's leads: Adam Devine.

Today, Peacock announced that it had given a straight to series order to a Pitch Perfect show, and that it will have Adam Devine as one its stars. Devine portrayed vocal villain (and leader of the Barden Bellas' rival a cappella group, the Treblemakers) Bumper Allen in the first two films, and is returning to reprise his role as the egotistical songster in the show. Those who tune in will follow Bumper as he moves to Germany in order to attempt to revive his music career after one of his songs becomes a big hit in Berlin, several years after his time at Barden.

Even better than the news of Adam Devine returning to the franchise for the new series, fans can also be assured that the material will be handled in a way that pays respect to the movies, because several of the behind the scenes players will be involved in the show, as well. Elizabeth Banks and Max Handelman of Brownstone Productions will be executive producing, along with Paul Brooks and Scott Neimeyer from Gold Circle Films, and Megan Amram, with star Adam Devine also executive producing.

Those who love the films will know that Banks appeared in all three of the Pitch Perfect movies, along with directing the second one, which led to the movie hitting the history books for having the highest opening weekend for a musical, the best opening for a first-time feature film director, and the second-largest opening for a female director, when it debuted in 2015. Brownstone and Gold Circle were behind production on the entire film series.

Luckily, Pitch Perfect is being billed as a show that will add to the many memorable musical moments given to us by the movies, as the statement released by Peacock notes that it will provide "more earworm classics for super fans to enjoy." Plus with the focus on Devine's character in this spinoff, it's been said that we can look forward to him "bringing fans the quirky, laugh-out-loud sensibility they loved in the film franchise."

While this will be a new type of take on Pitch Perfect, it definitely sounds like a plan is in place to make sure that fans are going to find the same enjoyment in the series as they did in the films. And, even though there don't seem to be firm intentions right now to have anyone else from the movies show up, there's always a possibility.

We don't know when Pitch Perfect will arrive on Peacock yet or how many episodes it will have, but there will probably be more details coming over the next several months.

Pierce Brosnan is a man who knows his way around action, whether it’s from his four-movie tenure as James Bond or more recent flicks like The Foreigner and Final Score. Having recently wrapped work on Black Adam, his superhero movie debut, Brosnan is jumping back onto that familiar stomping ground. This time around though, the action will be melded with laughs in a Netflix movie that costars Pitch Perfect’s Adam DeVine.

These two have been recruited for The Out-Laws, an action-comedy that sees Adam DeVine playing Owen Browning, a “straight-laced” bank manager who’s about to marry Parker, the “love of his live.” However, when Owen’s bank is held up by a group of robbers known as the Ghost Bandits on the week of his wedding, Owen soon suspects that his in-laws, who have just arrived in town, make up this gang of “Out-Laws.” While there’s no mention of Pierce Brosnan’s role, it’s easy enough to imagine him playing Owen’s father-in-law/the leader of the Bandits.

Along with reporting that Pierce Brosnan and Adam DeVine’s will star in The Out-Laws (with the latter also producing with Happy Madison Productions), Deadline mentioned that The Wrong Missy’s Tyler Spindel will direct the Netflix feature off a script written by Evan Turner and Ben Zazove. Isaac Horne is also attached to executive prodce. There’s no word yet on when The Out-Laws will begin filming, but as far as Brosnan is concerned, this sounds like it’ll be his next project.

Pierce Brosnan is certainly no stranger to lighthearted cinematic fare, with such examples on his resume including the Mamma Mia movies, The World’s End and Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga. So it’ll be interesting to see how well Brosnan does in this mixing of genres. As for Adam DeVine, along with playing Bumper Allen in the first two Pitch Perfect movies, his notable credits include The Intern, Game Over, Man!, Isn’t It Romantic, Workaholics, Modern Family and The Righteous Gemstones.

The Out-Laws will be Adam DeVine’s first movie since 2020’s Magic Camp (which he filmed in 2017), but we’ll be more of Pierce Brosnan before this Netflix release. 2021 has already seen him star in The Misfits and False Positive, and he’ll next appear as King Rowan in Amazon’s Cinderella movie. Then summer 2022 will bring Black Adam, the Dwayne Johnson-led DC Comics movie where Brosnan plays Doctor Fate, a powerful sorcerer who’s part of the Justice Society with Hawkman, Atom Smasher and Cyclone.

Anna Kendrick (Beca)

Anna Kendrick played Beca in all three Pitch Perfect films. She’s a bit of a rebel at first and doesn’t take the Barden Bellas that seriously, but she bonds with the women and finds her voice within the group. In May 2021, Kendrick joined the cast of Rodney & Sheryl, a movie about a woman who appeared on a TV dating show and chose a serial killer as her date. In August 2019, Anna Kendrick joined the cast of the crime thriller Unsound. Unsound tells the story of a state trooper who faces the challenge of irreversible hearing loss while investigating the prison escape of a gang member.

In 2021, Kendrick will make an appearance in season 2 of Love Life. She was the lead of season 1 of this HBO Max series. Also in 2021, Kendrick was part of the cast of Netflix’s Stowaway. In 2020, she returned to the world of Trolls for Trolls World Tour, and Kendrick had a lead role in the Quibi series Dummy.

Rebel Wilson (Fat Amy)

In Pitch Perfect, Rebel Wilson played Fat Amy, a young woman not afraid to be her unapologetic self, which usually led to comedic gold. As of June 2021, Wilson is currently filming Senior Year, a movie about a cheerleader who wakes from a coma 20-years later and goes back to high school to regain her queen-bee status. Rebel Wilson plays the lead character. She also stars in the upcoming film The Almond and the Seahorse. It’s a drama based on the stage play of the same name, and follows people who are suffering from traumatic brain injuries and their families.

2019 was a busy year for Wilson, as she starred in Isn’t It Romantic.The film reunited her with Pitch Perfect co-star Adam DeVine. She also starred opposite Anne Hathaway in The Hustle and had a role in the infamous Cats. Also in 2019, Wilson had a supporting role in the Oscar-winning film Jojo Rabbit.

Brittany Snow (Chloe)

Brittany Snow played the simple but sweet Chloe in all three Pitch Perfect films. She was one of the original Bellas who worked to recruit Beca and the others. Brittany Snow will appear alongside Jenna Ortega, Kid Cudi, and Mia Goth in the upcoming A24 horror-thriller X. Details about the film are mainly being kept a secret, but the Hollywood Reporter mentioned the plot surrounding the making of an adult film. Brittany Snow is set to star opposite Luke Bracey in the upcoming film Big Nickel.

In 2017, Snow signed on for the film Stripped with Charlie Cox. As of June 2021, the film, according to IMDB, is still in the pre-production stage. From 2019 to 2020, Snow was one of the co-leads of the short-lived series Almost Family. It followed women who discover that they are sisters because their father was a sperm donor to many children. Also in 2020, Snow co-starred in the romantic comedy, Hooking Up, with Sam Richardson.

Anna Camp (Aubrey)

Anna Camp played Aubrey, the disgraced leader of the Bellas who must recruit new women in order to try to regain the group’s former glory. In June 2021, Camp starred in a short film called Graceland that debuted at the Tribeca Film Festival. It followed a Southern mother who must learn to understand her daughter after she claims to be the reincarnated spirit of the king of rock and roll. Camp will star in the upcoming Western Murder At Emigrant Gulch.

In 2020, Anna Camp appeared in two popular Netflix films: The Lovebirds and Desperados. From 2019 to 2020, she had the lead role of Ginny in the short-lived NBC show Perfect Harmony. She also appeared in episodes of Unwanted and Creepshow.

Skylar Astin (Jesse)

Skylar Astin played Jesse in the first two Pitch Perfect movies. He’s part of the all-male rival acapella group The Treblemakers. He was also Beca’s main love interest in the first two films. Astin played lead character Max on the recently canceled Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist from 2020 to 2021. He also lends his voice to TrollsTopia as Branch.

In 2020, Astin appeared in the films Ghosts of War and Secret Society of Second-Born Royals. From 2018 to 2019, he took over the role of Greg Serrano (who was previously played by Santino Fontana) on Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. In 2019, Astin played the Baker in the Hollywood Bowl production of Into the Woods.

Adam DeVine (Bumper)

Bumper was one of the leading members of The Treblemakers. He eventually softened up his antics a bit in Pitch Perfect 2, and fell for Amy. Adam DeVine lends his voice to the Green Eggs and Ham series as Sam-I-Am. He also voices Poltergeist Pat in Vampirina. Adam DeVine is also one of the lead characters of The Righteous Gemstones. Season 2 is expected to premiere sometime in 2021.

In 2020, Adam Devine appeared in the Disney Original movie Magic Camp. As of 2021, he’s set to appear in the animated film Extinct. DeVine has also appeared in the movies Jexi, Isn’t It Romantic, Game Over, Man!, The Package, When We First Met, and the series Modern Family.

Ester Dean (Cynthia Rose)

Ester Dean played tough and talented Cynthia Rose in the Pitch Perfect franchise. Dean joined her Pitch Perfect co-star Anna Kendrick in Trolls World Tour. She voiced Legsly. Since 2019, Ester Dean has held judging duties on the reality singing series Songland. As of June 2021, it has yet to be canceled or renewed for a third season.

Dean will be a judge on the upcoming reality series Clash of the Cover Bands. She was a respected songwriter and producer before starring in Pitch Perfect, since the films, she has written songs like “Thinkin Bout You” for Ciara and “Solo Quiero” for Leona Lewis, Cali Y El Dandee, and Juan Magan.

Hana Mae Lee (Lily)

Hana Mae Lee’s character Lily was best known for her whispering and the creepy comments she made while whispering. Lily became one of the scene stealers of the Pitch Perfect films. Lee will appear in the upcoming horror film Abruptio. The cast of Abruptio includes James Marsters, Jordan Peele, Robert Englund, and Sid Haig. The film has been in production since 2015 but is rumored to be released in 2021. Lee will also appear in the upcoming film, Habits, starring Paris Jackson and Bella Thorne.

In 2017, Lee played Sonya in The Babysitter. She reprised her role in the 2020 sequel, The Babysitter: Killer Queen. Hana Mae Lee has also appeared in the series Those Who Can’t, Patriot, and Perpetual Grace, LTD.

Ben Platt (Benji)

Ben Platt played Benji in the first two Pitch Perfect movies. He was Jesse’s roommate, a bit of a magic nerd, and also an aspiring member of The Treblemakers (at least in the first film). Ben Platt will play Evan Hansen in the upcoming Dear Evan Hansen movie. The film is based on the Broadway musical of the same name, where Platt starred in the first production of the show. It’s set to debut in theaters on September 24, 2021. It’s one of the highly anticipated 2021 movies. Platt will star opposite Lola Kirke and Yvette Nicole Brown in Broken Diamond.

In a little less than 20 years from now, Platt will appear alongside real-life best friend Beanie Feldstein and Blake Jenner in Merrily We Roll Along. As of March 2021, he was in talks to star opposite Allison Janney and Annie Murphy in the film adaptation of The People We Hate At Weddings.

Platt is the lead character on Ryan Murphy’s dramedy The Politician. As of June 2021, The Politician has yet to be renewed or canceled. In 2020, Platt appeared on the reality series Songland and voiced a character on The Simpsons. Also in 2019, Platt released his first studio album, Sing to Me Instead.

Hailee Steinfeld (Emily)

Hailee Steinfeld first entered the world of Pitch Perfect in Pitch Perfect 2. She was a freshman recruit and a legacy Bella. As of 2021, Steinfeld plays Emily Dickinson in the Apple TV+ original series Dickinson. In late 2021, she will make her debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Kate Bishop in Hawkeye. In 2022, Steinfeld will reprise her voice role as Gwen Stacy in the sequel to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

In 2020, Steinfeld released an EP called Half Written Story. It contains five tracks, including “Wrong Direction,” and “I Love You’s.” In 2019, she appeared in the latest Charlie’s Angels movie and Between Two Ferns: The Movie.

Elizabeth Banks (Gail)

Elizabeth Banks played Gail in the Pitch Perfect movies. Gail is one of the announcers for the acapella competitions. Banks also directed Pitch Perfect 2. In 2019, she once again sat in the director's chair for Charlie’s Angels. She is also planning to direct the Red Queen series for Peacock, and she will have a major supporting role in the show if it’s picked up. Banks will star alongside Sigourney Weaver and Kate Mara in the upcoming drama Call Jane.

In 2019, Banks appeared in the horror film Brightburn. In 2020, she played Jill Ruckelshaus in Mrs. America. As of June 2021, Banks also hosts the game show Press Your Luck on ABC.

For six seasons (and hopefully someday, its long-awaited movie), Community proved to be the little show that could. Despite its inconsistent ratings, a seemingly indifferent network, the firing (and subsequent re-hiring) of its showrunner, and the controversial exits of a number of its prominent stars – including Chevy Chase and Donald Glover – the show stayed strong, resulting in an underdog success that provided a consistently fun, ultra-meta spin on the familiar sitcom format.

Created by Dan Harmon, the series starred Joel McHale, Gillian Jacobs, Alison Brie, Jim Rash, and Ken Jeong, many of whom have only continued to rise in fame since the acclaimed sitcom left NBC (and the short-lived Yahoo! Screen). But in addition to these familiar names, there were several other stars who made appearances — both brief and not — during the show's extended run. From John Oliver to Brie Larson, here are 10 actors you might have forgotten were on Community.

John Oliver (Ian Duncan)

John Oliver is best known nowadays as the host of HBO's Last Week Tonight, where he comedically recaps/breaks down some of the biggest news stories/political events of the past week. But when Community began, Oliver periodically appeared as Professor Ian Duncan, a psychology teacher at Greendale Community College who was close friends with Joel McHale's Jeff Winger. While Oliver was away from Community for awhile, he returned for several episodes in Season 5 – but he was absent again in Season 6 (as he was committed to the first season of his aforementioned talk show). Oliver's inconsistent time on Community was due to his involvement as the temporary host of The Daily Show when Jon Stewart was absent, which paved the way for his solo HBO series. Beyond the small screen, Oliver also voiced Zazu in 2019's The Lion King, starring fellow Community star Donald Glover.

Brie Larson (Rachel)

A few short years before her Oscar-winning performance in 2015's Room, and several years before she played the title role in Captain Marvel, Brie Larson appeared in a few episodes of Community — in the fourth and fifth seasons, specifically. Brie played Rachel, a love interest for Abed (Danny Pudi). While there were several elements from the fourth season (i.e. the Dan Harmon-less "gas leak" year) that didn't carry over into the last two seasons, Larson was one of the few newly-introduced characters who leaped into the showrunner's return. When Larson was introduced into Community, she was already an established actress, notably in the acclaimed indie Short Term 12. She also had prominent roles in The United States of Tara, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, 21 Jump Street, and The Spectacular Now. Since then, however, Larson has since been seen in Kong: Skull Island and Avengers: Endgame.

Kumail Nanjiani (Custodian Lapari)

Fans will remember 2014 as a big year for Kumail Nanjiani. After making brief and/or supporting roles in Saturday Night Live, The Colbert Report, The Five-Year Engagement, Veep, Drunk History, Burning Love, Franklin & Bash, and more, Nanjiani finally broke out with a main role in HBO's acclaimed Silicon Valley, and he had his own short-lived Comedy Central series, The Meltdown with Jonah and Kumail. The actor-screenwriter gained more attention and exposure, thus continuing his Hollywood ascension and leading up to his Oscar-nominated work in the autobiographical dramedy, The Big Sick, and building up to roles in Men In Black: International, Stuber, The Twilight Zone, Dolittle, The Lovebirds and Marvel's upcoming The Eternals. As it happens, 2014 was also the year that Nanjiani made one of two guest star appearances on Community as Custodian Lapari, Greendale's deputy custodian, in the fifth and sixth seasons, respectively.

Tig Notaro (Bartender)

In 2012, Tig Notaro was a hard-working comedian with a hard luck story. A few days after she was diagnosed with stage two breast cancer, Notaro performed a brazen, deeply personal set at the Largo, which was subsequently released online. Shortly thereafter, it became a huge success, turning the deadpan comedian into an overnight sensation. Notaro received a double mastectomy and thankfully found herself on the road to recovery, thus propelling her career in show business. She's now a Grammy-nominated performer with credits including The Office, Bob's Burgers, New Girl, Star Trek: Discovery, Transparent, Instant Family, and more, as well as the documentary, Tig, and a short-lived autobiographical Amazon series, One Mississippi. Two years prior to all that, though, Notaro was seen in Community's second season as a bartender serving drinks to Allison Brie's Annie Edison while the Greendale student pretended to be a whole different person.

Adam DeVine (William "Willy" Winger Jr.)

In 2013, a couple years after Workaholics premiered on Comedy Central, and only a year after the release of Pitch Perfect, Adam DeVine appeared in Community's fourth season. Playing the part of William Winger Jr., a.k.a. Willy Jr., the half-brother of Jeff Winger, DeVine was a guest star on the NBC series. The appearance came at a mid-point in DeVine's career. Due to the growing popularity of Workaholics, DeVine was turning into a household name in the world of comedy, though this mid-period Community episode was before he transitioned into leading roles in movies like Game Over Man, Isn't It Romantic?, Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates, and Jexi, as well as his principal role in HBO's The Righteous Gemstones and his leading role in Netflix's Green Eggs and Ham.

Brit Marling (Page)

When Brit Marling appeared in Community's second season, the actress/writer/producer was breaking out as an indie darling, having starred in, produced, and co-written two of the hottest movies at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival: Another Earth and Sound Of My Voice. In response to the acclaim for those two small-budget movies, Marling gained a few prominent acting roles, including the Community episode "Early 21st Century Romanticism" — which became Marling's first paid acting gig, by her own admission. Marling played Page, Britta's new friend whom she believes is a lesbian. This episode received attention for an on-screen kiss shared between Marling and Jacobs. Since her time on Community, Marling continues to expand he career as a multi-hyphenate, most notably with Netflix's cult-favorite sci-fi series, The OA. The mind-bending streaming series was cancelled after two seasons, though diehard fans are adamant about bringing it back.

Vince Gilligan (Devon)

Best known as the creator of AMC's masterful Breaking Bad and the co-creator of its exceptional spin-off series, Better Call Saul, Vince Gilligan has earned a wealth of acclaim as a writer, showrunner, producer, and director. But in 2014, Gilligan added his first acting credit to his resume when he appeared in the Community episode "VCR Maintenance and Educational Publishing," where the Emmy-winning writer-director played Devon, a struggling middle-aged actor and host of Pile of Bullets — a cheesy 1990s VCR-based video game. Other than a cameo on Comedy Bang Bang and an appearance as himself on What Just Happened??! with Fred Savage, Community was one of Gilligan's select few on-screen acting roles (he also did voice work for American Dad and Penn Zero: Part-Time Hero). He rarely appears on-camera outside of interviews. Therefore, if you didn't recognize Gilligan here, you're forgiven.

Drew Carey (Ted)

By the time Drew Carey appeared on Community, the actor-comedian-television personality was already a household name. Thanks to shows like The Drew Carey Show, Whose Line Is It Anyway?, and, eventually, The Price Is Right, Carey was a familiar face to television audiences in the United States. Thus, it was a fun surprise to see him in the second season of the cult-favorite NBC series playing Ted, the head of the law firm Hamish, Hamish & Hamlin and Jeff's former boss. If you forgot that the game show host made a brief appearance on the program, that's understandable — especially since the character died off-camera in Season 3 (by Jeff's admission, at least). Nevertheless, Carey continues to be seen on The Price Is Right, though he recently took a break from the popular CBS series when his ex-fiancee was tragically murdered.

Paul Walter Hauser (Student #3)

In recent years, Paul Walter Hauser has stood out as one of our most impressive up-and-coming character actors. With strong supporting turns in BlacKkKlansman, I, Tonya, Cobra Kai, Late Night, Super Troopers 2, and the title role in last year's Richard Jewell, Hauser has stood out in parts big and small... although you would be forgiven if you missed him in Community. The actor made a blink-and-you-miss-it appearance in the Season 2 episode, "Messianic Myths and Ancient Peoples." He was billed simply as "Student #3," though he has a line and modestly prominent screen-time. It was one of his first professional credits, and it paved the way for what we would see from him today — including upcoming roles in Cruella, Spike Lee's Da 5 Bloods, and more. He's certainly an actor to watch for, especially after his outstanding performance in Clint Eastwood's newest.

Jack Black (Buddy Austin)

Unlike several other actors on this list, Jack Black was a well-established name when he walked onto Greendale's campus. The Golden Globe-nominated actor-musician is best known for School of Rock, Tropic Thunder, the Kung Fu Panda trilogy, Nacho Libre, High Fidelity, Tenacious D In The Pick Of Destiny, Goosebumps, and the recent Jumanji films, to name a few. He was a big get for the plucky NBC sitcom, playing the role of the hapless Buddy Austin, a would-be member of the study group. His brief mid-season role in the sitcom's first year was a splashy surprise, and it came at a point when Community was finding its groove (namely in the episode right after its first-ever mid-season break). As Community advanced into the more meta series fans know it for today, one could easily forget the surprises found in the first season — including Black's starry appearance.

In addition to these names listed above, Community also saw Randall Park, Nick Kroll, Martin Starr, Katharine McPhee, Matt Walsh, Eliza Coupe, Owen Wilson and other big name stars briefly roaming the halls of Greendale before the doors closed. Although the series was never a huge hit in the ratings department, nor was it ever the awards contender it should have been, the Dan Harmon-created meta-sitcom did have both critical acclaim and a devoted following in its favor. Suffice to say, it makes sense why it would attract so many high-level talents throughout its unlikely run. Now that the show has concluded, it's also easy to see why so many famous faces who appeared on this fan-favorite series went on to do so many great things. The Pitch Perfect franchise helped launch several careers, including that of comedian Adam Devine. His role as Bumper became a quick fan favorite element of Pitch Perfect and Pitch Perfect 2, but the Workaholics alum was notably absent from Pitch Perfect 3. That said, during a recent interview with CinemaBlend to talk about his new Netflix film, Game Over, Man!, Devine opened up and told us that there was a tempting pitch for an unmade Pitch Perfect movie that would've involved Bumper getting married to Rebel Wilson's Fat Amy. Devine explained:

That story obviously never happened, but Adam Devine makes it sounds like it would've been the type of tale to bring him back to the Pitch Perfect family. Unlike previous installments in the franchise, this movie would've allowed Bumper to get the upper hand in the relationship with Fat Amy, forcing her to cope with his newfound fame and fortune after winning The Voice. Pitch Perfect crossed with Bridesmaids? Sign us up.

If that story eventually goes on to provide the basis for Pitch Perfect 4 (if such a sequel ever happens), then it will likely have to go through some changes to fit the existing universe. Pitch Perfect 3 already touched on the idea of the Barden Bellas seeing each other for the first time since graduation, and the ending of the film seemingly implied their long-term plans to stick together as friends. Having said that, there's arguably still plenty of fertile ground to explore Bumper and Fat Amy as fiancés.

Of course, it's also worth highlighting the fact that Adam Devine seems content to work on his own material right now. He definitely noted that he would enjoy diving back into the Pitch Perfect well for a fun story, but the actor also pointed out that he's currently doing his "own thing" for the moment. He has found a promising home at Netflix with projects like Game Over, Man! and his recent film When We First Met, so he seems to have a good thing going for himself right now.

Only time will tell if Adam Devine will ever return to the Pitch Perfect franchise. Until that day comes, you can watch out for his latest film when Game Over, Man! debuts on Netflix on March 23. Netflix has a tradition of pushing the envelope with its content, which includes doing or showing things that might not get exposure in theatrically released movies. Now, with the release of Kyle Newacheck's Game Over, Man! later this week, it seems that the streaming platform's next original film has once again embraced that idea. In fact, in one sequence in the movie, star Adam Devine does full frontal nudity, and while the prospect of such a scene might intimidate some actors, Devine recently sat down with CinemaBlend and explained that he had six whole years to get ready for the nudity because it was always the plan for him to go through with it. The Pitch Perfect star told us:

For Adam Devine, it sounds like the fact that he was going to show full frontal nudity in Game Over, Man! was made easier because the movie went through six years of development before he had to go through with it finally. Male nudity is a somewhat rare sight in mainstream films (at least relative to female nudity), so the fact that Devine decided to commit to the gag is fairly noteworthy.

There was also never a question of whether or not it would be Adam Devine to pull off the scene in question. Elsewhere in our conversation with the Workaholics alumni about the decision to do the scene, Devine explained that his character in Game Over, Man! was written in such an insane way that made him the natural choice to do it. Devine continued:

Aside from the full frontal nudity, Adam Devine also noted that there was one other scene in the film that made it through every incarnation of the script. The film features a wide array of celebrity cameos ranging from Portlandia's Fred Armisen to Scrubs' Donald Faison and Workaholics alumni/22 Jump Street star Jillian Bell, and musician Shaggy is one of the many celebrities to show up at the party. He is one of the hostages seen multiple times throughout the movie, and the creative team always knew that they wanted to include him in a sequence.

Game Over, Man! stars Adam Devine, Blake Anderson, and Anders Holm as a trio of maids stuck in a Die Hard-esque scenario when a group of terrorists takes over their hotel in Lost Angeles. In addition to bringing all three of the main Workaholics actors back together for their first feature, the movie is also the directorial debut of Workaholics writer/director Kyle Newacheck.

Adam Devine has been working with Netflix a lot of late. He has a movie spoof of the Die Hard movies coming with Game Over, Man! Now, Netflix has revealed the first trailer for When We First Met, which is the subscription streaming service's take on Groundhog Day, with a little romance and Adam Devine sprinkled in for good measure. In When We First Met, Adam Devine plays Noah Ashby, a young man who meets the girl of his dreams, Avery, and manages to charm her during their first night out. Unfortunately, that night also led to him being permanently friend-zoned, and a few years later Avery is set to marry another man. Saddened by the turn of events, the awkward Noah retraces his steps from that first night with Avery and finds himself in a photo booth that manages to transport him back in time.

Although there is some time travel involved here, the general gist is that Adam Devine's character will go on a Groundhog Day-type journey in order to figure out where he went wrong and how to maybe finally tell Avery she's the love of his life. Adam Devine is of course not the same type of comedian as Bill Murray, but he eschews the intense confidence of Pitch Perfect's Bumper here, instead favoring a really awkward dude. Someone you could totally see getting put in the friend zone. But don't they kind of make a cute couple?

Movies that nod at Groundhog Day have been fairly popular of late and When We First Met won't be the first to nod at the premise of the popular nineties movie. This past year, Blumhouse also created a horror movie that featured its own references to Groundhog Day. That movie, Happy Death Day, made over $115 million worldwide at the box office on a $4.8 million budget. That's pretty much making money hand over fist, even counting advertising.

When We First Met should be a little bit of a different case. It's part of a wave of Netflix original movies that are being pushed out by the subscription streaming service in 2018. So, if you've been noticing a lot of Netflix movie trailers of late, that's why. Prior to the release of Pitch Perfect 3, news broke that the dudes we've come to know and love from the Treblemakers had not been worked into the latest installment of the singing-oriented franchise. Not only does the new movie miss out on Bumper and Fat Amy shenanigans, but five years after the original movie, there was no place for Benji or Jesse, either. Now, Pitch Perfect 3's director, Trish Sie, has explained why the boys were cut for the third installment of the film. She said:

Honestly, Pitch Perfect 3 sees the girls head overseas to compete for a contract with DJ Khaled during a USO tour. A lot of the gags involved the fact that the Bellas don't play instruments while the other bands do. If the Treblemakers were also competing on the USO tour, that would be pretty weird. However, Beca and the gang early on are trying to figure out their lives at home, and there was room for a cameo from any or all of Adam Devine, Ben Platt and Skylar Astin. However, according to Trish Sie, that wasn't really the point of the movie, and it's OK that the third installment went in a different direction.

Per what Trish Sie also told THR, she isn't really the person responsible for the decision, however. She says a script had already been written before she came onboard Pitch Perfect 3.

Ultimately, a cameo from the Treblemakers may have been unsatisfying, anyway. In order to move the plot forward, it really may not have made sense to keep Beca with her college boyfriend, either, or to shoehorn Bumper into a plot that really revolved around Fat Amy and her relationship with her father. Pitch Perfect 3 did just fine without a relationship subplot for Beca or Fat Amy, and maybe we'll get to see those aspects played out if there ever is a Pitch Perfect 4. If one were to make a Venn diagram of Workaholics fans and people who like to get stoned, one might expect a single circle with just a sliver of a shadow where the results don't quite match up. Show creators and stars Adam DeVine and Blake Anderson spoke with CinemaBlend to promote the essential DVD releases for Workaholics: The Final Season and The Complete Series set, and they clued me in on the weed jokes that they hear from fans the most. Here's one.

Tis a double-edged sword to craft a brevity-minded catchphrase that can permeate the zeitgeist in such a way, or at least the part of the zeitgeist that has a consistently dissipating cloud above it. Workaholics has definitely thrown more than its share of marijuana-laced humor at audiences, and it's far from surprising that "scmoke a bewl" would be the most repetitive callback that makes its way to the stars' ears while they're out and about.

Perhaps it also isn't the most belief-defying thing to hear waiters getting fingered as the ones who make the bewl-schmoking requests the most. Nor that these restaurant servers would be so brazen as to (perhaps sincerely) ask a customer to get high. Sure, there's some leeway there, considering Adam DeVine and Blake Anderson are co-creators and co-promoters of the catchphrase in question, but it's probably better to go with a Waymond joke or a "Best Friends Song" reference over a weed joke. At least in a professional setting.

It turns out that, within that subsection of restaurant-employed Workaholics viewers that make show jokes to the stars, there's actually a smaller and more topic-specific subsection. Here's how Adam DeVine and Blake Anderson put it.

One of the first steps in being a success in the entertainment industry is to know your audience. And though there isn't a textbook on winning over burrito stand employees, being one of the creators of Workaholics apparently carries a lot of cred.

Workaholics unfortunately won't be gracing Comedy Central's primetime lineup with any new episodes (though the hopeful among us will continue holding out for an eventual reunion). But you can watch every single episode that's already been made -- as well as a slew of deleted scenes, cast and crew commentaries, outtake reels and much more -- with the Workaholics: The Complete Series set, which just came out on DVD on Tuesday, June 20. And if you already have the previous six seasons, then pick up the Workaholics: The Final Season set that hit stores the same day. Plus, keep an eye out for their upcoming Netflix comedy feature Game Over, Man.

Grassroots movements and campaigns partly defined last year in entertainment, but arguably none became quite as vocally backed as the Justice for Barb movement, inspired by Shannon Purser's ill-fated character from Stranger Things. Many have speculated as what became of the fan-favorite and now-deceased character within the hit Netflix series., and as it turns out, a clip from last night's MTV Movie & TV Awards has an answer for us: she has totally been sleeping with the Demogorgon during her time in The Upside Down. That clip reunites former Workaholics co-stars Adam DeVine and Jillian Bell in a pitch-perfect Stranger Things parody, which easily turned into one of the highlights of last night's MTV Movie & TV Awards. In an attempt to prove that one disturbing alt-reality exists -- The Sunken Place from Get Out -- DeVine accidentally goes one layer too deep and finds himself trapped in The Upside Down from Stranger Things. Upon his arrival, he encounters a more grown-up (if not necessarily more mature) version of Barb, whose time in the bizarre alternate dimension has been primarily characterized by boredom and some weird Demogorgon sex. This is why you never schmoke all the weed before trying to get to The Sunken Place, Mr. DeVine.

This probably goes without saying, but I would pay full admission price for an entire Stranger Things parody series starring Jillian Bell as Barb. She is absolutely perfect in the role. (Not that Shannon Purser would have to stay out.)

The parody does not stop with the arrival of Barb, either. Several other celebrities make cameos in the sequence, such as Trey Songz, Hannibal Buress, fellow Workaholics vet Anders Holm, and DeVine's Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates co-star Aubrey Plaza -- who rocks the Eleven cosplay in this scene.

It's another "take my money" moment, as again, I would watch an entire Stranger Things parody featuring Ms. Plaza as the telekinetic, teenage badass, especially after seeing her stellar and unsettling performances in FX's Legion.

This Stranger Things spoof follows the long MTV Movie Awards tradition of airing prerecorded parodies of famous pop culture institutions. Unlike other award shows like The Oscars or The Golden Globes, where Demogorgon-banging doesn't get referenced, the MTV Movie Awards handles its subject matter with a far more casual and crass sensibility. By taking this approach, the MTV award show has carved out a fantastic niche for itself by allowing beloved comedians and actors to take part in some seriously hard-R versions of classic and trend-setting films and TV shows -- such as The Matrix, Star Wars, and now Stranger Things. With 2017 almost half over, we will have to wait and see what spoofs are on the horizon for next year.

If this Stranger Things parody does one particular thing correctly outside of stunt casting, it's that it has officially made us even more excited for the second season of The Duffer Brothers' hit series to make its debut on Netflix, which will occur on Tuesday, October 31, 12:01 a.m. PT. Here's everything you need to know about the upcoming season of the hit show, and then here's our summer TV schedule for you to plan your small screen viewing over the coming months.

The Die Hard template has been used time and time again to propel other movies that don't involve Bruce Willis foiling the best-laid plans of terrorists. Die Hard on a Bus was Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock's Speed. Die Hard on a Boat was Steven Seagal's Under Siege, while Under Siege 2 was basically Die Hard on a Train. But what about Die Hard with Stoned Idiots? I think that's how we can describe Game Over, Man!, a Netflix comedy that just dropped its first bit of footage.

Fans of the deceased Comedy Central show Workaholics will recognize the three dudes at the center of Game Over, Man! And just typing that makes me sad, because that phrase belongs to the beloved Bill Paxton, who left us too soon. But just by using that phrase as its title makes me think that Game Over, Man! will lampoon several different types of action classics, even though Adam Devine once described it as "Die Hard, but with three idiot John McClanes."

The official plot synopsis goes something like this. Characters played by Adam Devine, Anders Holm and Blake Anderson are low-level maids at a downtown L.A. hotel who have created their own video game on the side, and are about to get it fully financed. Unfortunately, trouble sparks when the man who's bankrolling their endeavor gets kidnapped by terrorists during a hostile takeover. Now it's up to these buffoons to stop the terrorists and rescue the hard-partying billionaire so he can continue to fund their dream of creating an original video game. High stakes!

One reason why we're excited about the Netflix original production of Game Over, Man! is that it's being produced by Scott Rudin, as well as Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg. Could this be the next equivalent of Pineapple Express, as well as Die Hard? That Seth Rogen movie expertly blended the Lethal Weapon tropes into a weed comedy, and it sounds like Game Over, Man! is trying to do the same with the Die Hard formula.

The problem is, we have to wait almost a full year to see how Game Over, Man! turned out. Netflix plans to release it on April 20, 2018 (get it? 4/20?!) And this first footage, while funny, really only shows us what the Workaholics dudes will look like in the movie, and the type of humor they will be aiming for. The MTV Movie Awards has been an awards show unlike any other ever since it debuted back in 1992. The show is going through a big change for 2017; for the very first time, TV will be honored as well as films. It will take a host who knows both mediums to really carry the show, and MTV has found the perfect person. Adam DeVine will tackle hosting duties for the first ever MTV Movie & TV Awards. Check out his announcement!

The announcement only runs for 45 seconds, but I'd say that it demonstrates why Adam DeVine could be the ideal host for the first MTV Movie & TV Awards. He has solid comic timing and is clearly willing to play with whatever shenanigans are in store. I'm not entirely sure what to expect out of the show now that both movies and TV are being honored, but I'm pretty confident that DeVine is a smart choice.

After all, Adam DeVine is a veteran of big and small screen. He's appeared in movies ranging from Pitch Perfect (and Pitch Perfect 2) to The Intern to Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates. On the small screen front, he starred in Comedy Central's Workaholics, voiced Pizza Steve on Uncle Grandpa, and played Andy on Modern Family. We can bet that he'll be able to handle any category MTV comes up with for the first annual MTV Movie & TV Awards.

Interestingly, Adam DeVine took home a Movie Award himself back in 2016. He and Rebel Wilson won the top prize in the Best Kiss category for their smooch in Pitch Perfect 2. Nominations for the 2017 Awards have no yet been announced, but it should be fun to see if DeVine scores a nom.

Workaholics finished its run on Comedy Central this year, so I wouldn't be shocked if it got some kind of recognition on the TV side of the Movie & TV Awards. He wouldn't be the first awards show master of ceremonies to be nominated. In fact, if he lost, he wouldn't even be the first host who had to stick around on stage after missing out on a trophy. He probably wouldn't have to deal with Matt Damon strolling out to mock him, though.

The big question now is what categories will be featured in the TV side of the awards show. Movie categories include everything from Movie of the Year and Best Performance to Best Villain and Best Action Performance. We can bet that there will be some of the same categories for TV, but I'm definitely hoping that we'll get some categories unique to TV. We'll have to wait and see.

Sadly, 2017 is the year that the weed-schmokin' threesome at the center of Comedy Central's Workaholics will say farewell to audiences, but at least we can all give thanks that years of juvenile humor provided creators Adam Devine, Anders Holm, Blake Anderson and Kyle Newacheck a brighter future in the entertainment industry. Things are going dark for a new movie that will team the TV quartet with multi-hyphenate Ben Stiller for a much-desired home at Netflix. Titled The Eggplant Emoji, it's a movie that's ki-i-i-ind of about a guy who gets his penis cut off.

It'd be a stretch to say that The Eggplant Emoji is a stunningly intricate portrayal of an adolescence gone impure. At the heart of it all (or whatever body part) is a teenage boy out with his friends on a camping trip...a trip that goes extraordinarily wrong when his penis is accidentally cut off. Attempts are then made to save the lil' limb before the point of no return. Hard to believe things could still go downhill from that first point, but they definitely can, and according to THR, the tone will be akin to Superbad in the way it mixes R-rated laughs with teen friendships.

With Zoolander 2 as his most recent trip into extreme comedy, Ben Stiller isn't so surprising a name to find behind the scenes of The Eggplant Emoji, and a past cameo on Workaholics is a sensible connection to the other funnymen. The man who embraced a colorful assortment of genitalia gags in There's Something About Mary will be executive producing the film with Nicky Weinstock through their Red Hour Films shingle. Also no strangers to penis-themed antics, Adam Devine, Anders Holm, Blake Anderson and Kyle Newacheck will serve as producers, so you can be sure no one will be stepping in to say something is "too extreme and/or crude."

The Eggplant Emoji was conceived as a spec script from Kevin Burrows and Matt Mider, who created the dialogue-driven web comedy Gentlemen Lobsters, which started at GQ and can also be found on NBC's comedy streaming site Seeso. And apparently their spec was quite the hot and gross commodity; Netflix took control of The Eggplant Emoji by beating out five other studios who also had a vested interested in showering dollars on the ribald concept. At a time when reboots and sequels are all the rage, it's interesting that a dude losing his dong was such a magnet for attention.

Unfortunately, no details about release timelines or casting were noted, so it's unclear if Ben Stiller or the Workaholics crew will star or make appearances. Anders Holm wrote the action-comedy Game Over, Man, which Newacheck will direct for Netflix, and Holm will again co-star with Adam Devine and Blake Anderson. I am sorry to deliver what is perhaps the most loose butthole news of the day/week/month/year. The world will soon have to figure out what it takes to once again live without the TelAmeriCorp gang in our lives, as it's been announced Workaholics is coming to an end on Comedy Central. But don't go sending Waymond any hatemail or anything, as we will still be getting a seventh and final season out of the trio at the center of the show. And there's a small reason to keep hope alive for something in the future.

News of Workaholics' windup might not come as a surprise to hardcore fans who keep up with the trials and tribulations of creators and actors Adam DeVine, Anders Holm and Blake Anderson, as they have talked in the past about possibly making Season 7 the last one for Workaholics. It's a total bummer, and one would have hoped that everyone could have agreed on putting more out there, but the upcoming ten episodes will likely be the last we'll see. Fingers crossed they've pulled out all the stops and punched a couple of new holes when it comes to this last batch of stories. According to Deadline, the official statement said they "decided to leave on a HIGH note. Get it?" Ah, those guys.

Now, I think it's pretty important to mention, especially in today's television climate, that Workaholics was not cancelled by Comedy Central by any means. The decision to end the show was made by Adam DeVine, Anders Holm and Blake Anderson, along with co-creator and episode helmer Kyle Newacheck. TV shows never HAVE to die anymore, and these guys have been working together for so long - they started up the comedy troupe Mail Order Comedy in 2006, which later led to the show getting picked up - that it's hard to imagine they'll never ever ever wear their TelAmeriCorp shirts and ties again. After all, they're best friends, like, for real.

Season 7 went into production not too long ago, and we already got our first bit of great news about it earlier today, just before we got the worst news. One guest star viewers can look forward to seeing is former Vampire Diaries star Nina Dobrev, and it'll be her first TV role following her exit of that CW drama. We're betting more big names are coming, too, since Workaholics excels in the guest star department. For instance, last season's wild premiere featured the stellar guest trifecta of Liam Hemsworth, Dane Cook and Pauly Shore. I think I'll go watch that episode again in a minute.

As far as what else we can expect to see from Workaholics' threesome outside of Comedy Central, the biggest project is the troupe's action comedy movie Game Over, Man!, which has been described by the group as "Die Hard with a twist." Adam DeVine is keeping his big screen career going strong with the comedies Why Him? (with Bryan Cranston and James Franco) and When We First Met (with Alexandra Daddario and Robbie Amell). Blake Anderson is doing voice work on various animated shows, such as Voltron: Legendary Defender. Anders Holm will star in the hilarious Judy Greer's directorial debut A Happening of Monumental Proportions, which also stars Allison Janney and Katie Holmes.

No release date has been set just yet for the seventh and final season of Workaholics, but it's coming in the earlier part of 2017. To see everything else you'll be able to find making winter debuts, check out our midseason TV schedule.

Ever since Bruce Willis starred in the original Die Hard, many action movies have tried to copy that success by taking the film's simple formula and giving it minor changes. While we thought we'd seen every possible permutation, this one is new. Adam Devine describes his new film, with his Workaholics co-stars, as Die Hard with complete morons. It's certainly a twist we certainly haven't seen before.

While Adam Devine will next be seen in the comedy Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates, which opens in theaters today, he's also the co-star of Comedy Central's Workaholics. While fans of the series may be heartbroken to know that the next season of that series is likely to be its last, there is a silver lining. Adam Devine tells Entertainment Weekly that he, along with co-stars Blake Anderson and Anders Holm, are working on a feature film, titled Game Over, Man, which is planning to go into production early next year. Based on Devine's synopsis of the plot, we're certainly curious.

First off, the fact that Adam Devine describes their characters as "maids" rather than "housekeepers" or something more general already has us wondering what this setup is going to be. What hotel still refers to their cleaning staff as maids? We have to assume that this is a place where male cleaners is not the norm, making the hotel itself a curious place to set a movie. Of course, the unorthodox nature of the hotel may be why it is targeted by terrorists.

In the original Die Hard, Bruce Willis' John McClane has a chance to fight the bad guys simply because he gets overlooked and the robbers don't know that he's there. It would make sense this could happen to a couple of "maids" in a large hotel. But if you don't actually have the skill to do anything to fight terrorists, what happens then?

While the setup is very different from Workaholics, we have to assume that the comedy will be similar, as it comes from the same minds. Are these the people you want trying to save you from terrorists?

While a show about a trio of stoner best friends might not have worked out on most TV networks, Workaholics is the second longest-running scripted series on Comedy Central, behind only resident stalwart South Park. Season 7 is currently in development, but it looks like an end is in sight for the show, according to co-creators and stars Adam Devine, Blake Anderson and Anders Holm. And sadly, it's probably coming after Season 7. Here's how Devine put it.

No one should hear that kind of news without "schmerkin' a berl" first, as losing Workaholics on a permanent basis hurts all the way up the butthole, and it is most certainly not a tight butthole. If Devine is to be believed, then we only have ten episodes left of Workaholics, and I will be extremely pissed (or amazingly lax, one of the other) if this isn't the most extreme and mega-bonkers season yet. Can Season 7 surpass such Season 6 highlights as Liam Hemsworth and Dane Cook's intense cameos? Or the guys going berserk inside of a museum? Or the non-ejaculation pact? Sure it can, and hopefully everyone knowing that the end is night will inspire some truly memorable episodes.

However, this might not really be the last season of the fan favorite comedy. Blake Anderson had some slightly more hopeful words for EW.

So there's at least a slight chance that Devine, Anderson and Holm could return for Season 8 at some point in the future, just probably not so soon after the upcoming episodes have ended. And that makes sense. Adam Devine in particular has had his career take off in recent years with films such as Pitch Perfect 2, Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates, The Intern and Why Him? Blake Anderson has recently popped up all over TV in shows like The Big Bang Theory, The Simpsons and Parks and Recreation, as well as the acclaimed feature Dope. And Holm was also in The Intern, as well as this year's How to Be Single, and you'll be able to hear him soon in the animated comedy Sausage Party.

And there's a silver lining here, in that the three actors aren't going to be splitting up or anything even if Workaholics is kaput. They're actually moving forward on the long-gestating action-comedy Game Over, Man!, which Devine described as "sort of Die Hard, but with three idiot John McClanes." I already want to buy tickets to that, and it isn't scheduled to go into production until next March.

If it wasn't already obvious, I don't think it would ever be a good time to put Workaholics to bed. Even if the three main actors/characters were all in their 60s like fellow TelAmeriCorp employee Waymon, the show could still go on mostly as is, just with them bothering Karl for other kinds of medication besides just weed. But before we get to Season 35, we'll have to get to Season 7, which should be premiering at some point in early 2017.

Yesterday was a big day in America’s long history of watching other people compete in athletic contests. The only problem with actual sports is that sometimes the wrong team wins. We much prefer our sports in movies, where you can be virtually guaranteed that the right team will win almost every time. Another big fan of sports movies is talk show host James Corden who got some help from Anna Kendrick, Zac Efron, and Adam Devine as he ran through as many great sports movie scenes as possible as fast as they possibly could. Check it out.

In the post-Super Bowl episode of The Late Late Show with James Corden, the host got some help from most of the cast of Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates (apparently Aubrey Plaza was busy) for his seven-minute run through of everything from The Bad News Bears to the Rocky movies. Highlights include Zac Efron getting confused and doing a brief High School Musical bit when they’re supposed to be covering the classic Hoosiers and Anna Kendrick doing our favorite impression of Sandra Bullock from The Blind Side ever. Low points include the whitest Remember the Titans homage ever, followed by Efron’s valiant attempt, but eventual failure, at a decent Al Pacino impression from Any Given Sunday. The best part of the entire thing may be near the end when James Corden has to swallow a raw egg, a la Rocky. You can tell he doesn't want to do it, and once he does you can tell he's about to run off screen to go spit it out someplace.

We also can’t help but feel there were some serious missed opportunities here. Adam Devine telling Anna Kendrick that there’s no crying in baseball could have been excellent. The montage also completely lacked any golf or hockey references. No Emilio Estevez "Are we Ducks or what?" moment. Nothing from Caddyshack. We would have loved to have seen these hilarious actors go after some of these great moments. Instead we got Space Jam. We’re still trying to decide if that one was hilarious or terrifying.

The three guests used the opportunity to begin the promotion of their new film together, Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates. The movie had it’s trailer premiere as part of the Late Late Show, we assume because a Super Bowl spot would have cost the entire film’s marketing budget in one shot. While nothing about the film is sports related, unless bocce ball counts, the three actors do appear to have some chemistry here which should bode well for the new movie.

Spending some time in Hawaii with Anna Kendrick and Aubrey Plaza sounds like just the sort of great vacation that we could truly enjoy. However, the characters that the two will be playing in the upcoming movie Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates might be a little bit more than we could handle. Check out the wild ladies along with their co-stars Zac Efron and Adam Devine in the film’s first trailer.

Mike and Dave are a couple of brothers who have a tendency to get more than a little out of hand when left to their own devices. This leads their father to insist that the two men bring dates to their sister’s wedding, on the theory that having dates will keep the two in check. Of course, the problem with this theory is that it assumes that the dates the guys find won’t be worse than they are. Unfortunately, in this case, it appears that things have just been made worse since the two girls they find only appear to be nice and respectable.

Anna Kendrick and Aubrey Plaza look to be paired very well together. While this type of comedy is right in the wheelhouse of Plaza, it’s a bit outside the norm for Kendrick. Having said that, she looks right at home here so this should be a fairly entertaining diversion. Based on the trailer it looks like Aubrey Plaza will be the "lead" girl here with Kendrick in a supporting role, though it’s also possible the trailer is simply being selective as far as what it’s showing us.

The movie reunites Plaza with Zac Efron, who she recently co-starred with in the utterly underwhelming Dirty Grandpa. It looks like Efron himself has decided that 2016 will be the year he makes comedies. Between Dirty Grandpa, this film and the upcoming Neighbors 2, Efron appears to have found a niche that he’s going to stay in.

While Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates hasn’t been rated yet, it’s difficult to tell from this trailer whether this is a PG-13 comedy, or an R-rated one that simply couldn’t show us the more adult side in a general audience trailer. If this is going to be the one non-R-rated Zac Efron comedy of the year, it will be interesting to see if that helps or hurts its box office chances.

Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates will hit theaters on July 8. While the guys’ names are in the title this actually looks like a chance for the ladies to shine and lead the comedy. We look forward to seeing more and discovering if this is a destination wedding we should attend.

The title may be a mouthful, but the upcoming comedy Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates is putting together one hell of a cast full of talented young actors. Now they’ve added one more, as Aubrey Plaza has joined the festivities.

Variety reports that the Parks and Recreation, Safety Not Guaranteed, and The To Do List star has signed up to appear alongside Zac Efron, Anna Kendrick, and Adam Devine in the brewing comedy. You can currently check out Plaza in Ned Rifle, the third film in Hal Hartley’s quirky, long-gestating trilogy that began with Henry Fool in 1997 and continued with Fay Grim in 2006.

In Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates Efron and Devine play two immature, hard-partying brothers. When they become desperate to find dates for a wedding, they place an online personal add hoping to score a couple, only they meet their match in a pair of ladies who party every bit as hard as they do. Jake Szymanski is set to direct, and the script comes from Andrew J. Cohen and Brendan O’Brien, who are coming off of last summer’s surprise hit in the R-rated comedy Neighbors. From the description, this looks to fit in nicely with their previous effort.

With this cast in place, as well as the creative team behind the scenes, Mike and Dave has the makings a damn good time. Let’s take a closer look.

Zac Efron has gone from pretty-boy, Disney channel dreamboat to showing that he has a pretty good sense of humor. That’s never been on quite as full display as with Neighbors last summer, which wound up being one of the funniest movies of the year, and saw him play off of that wooden bro stereotype with hilarious results. Of the two brothers of the title, he plays Mike, and this outing sees him reteam with Aubrey Plaza, as the two recently finished shooting the road trip comedy Dirty Grandpa together.

Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates is also a reunion for Plaza and Anna Kendrick, as they both play sarcastic supporting characters in Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. Kendrick certainly has a varied resume, one that includes Tony Award nominations for her stage work, a hit single, and appearances in everything from twee indie dramadies like Happy Christmas and Drinking Buddies to big Disney musicals like Into the Woods and even a stint in the Twilight realm. We’ll get to see her flexing her vocal chords next month in Pitch Perfect 2. Her character in Mike and Dave is described as a wild child, and is the one who reportedly winds up paired with Efron.

Keeping with the theme of reunions, Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates brings Kendrick back together with her Pitch Perfect costar, Adam Devine, who also has a bit part in Neighbors. Most known as one of the leads on Comedy Central’s Workaholics, Devine struts as the brash, cocky, a capella rockstar Bumper Allen in the Pitch Perfect movies, and the sweet, innocent manny on Modern Family. But it’s playing the heel where he really excels, and from the description of his Dave character, he’s going to have ample opportunity to go wild.

Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates is scheduled to hit theaters July 8, 2016.

There’s no denying the fact that Anna Kendrick is one of the most charming actresses currently working in Hollywood. Meanwhile, Zac Efron has done a pretty stellar job of proving that he is more than a pretty face, and has developed into a rugged, handsome-but-sensitive screen presence. Agree? Good. Then the confirmed coagulation of these two thespians in the upcoming comedy Mike And Dave Need Wedding Dates is something that we should all be pretty excited about.

The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that has just signed on to take the female lead in Fox’s upcoming comedy. Zac Efron and Adam DeVine are starring as the eponymous brothers, who are so desperate for dates for a wedding that they decided to place an online ad searching for one. But the boys, who have been described as "immature" and "hard-partying," more than meet their matches in the shape of a pair of ladies who are just as childish and reckless as them. Is it just me or is that just Must Love Dogs meets The Wedding Crashers? Either way, I'm down.

Anna Kendrick’s character has been described as "a wild child with a romantic heart," and from the trade report description, it sounds as though she will be the one that winds up being paired up with Efron’s character. You can practically already smell the on-screen chemistry that the perpetually adorable couple will share. This character’s personality should also be a nice change of pace for the actress, as she has become largely famous for playing more controlled personalities, as seen in movies like Up In The Air and Scott Pilgrim vs. The World.

Kendrick is also getting a very talented co-star in Zac Efron, whose performances in films like 17 Again, Me and Orson Welles, That Awkward Moment and Neighbors have seen him not only emanate an innate likability but he's also showcase a potent timing that suggests he has already developed into a sturdy, comedic leading man. And even though Anna Kendrick’s CV is much more eclectic than Efron’s (with a few more weighty roles and even an Oscar nomination in there to boot), she has also proved that she can bring a lightness and humor to her roles at the same time as being nuanced and sincere.

Meanwhile the decision to give a leading part to Adam DeVine - who has managed to steal pretty much every scene he’s ever appeared in - is yet more proof that Mike And Dave Need Wedding Dates is worthy of your attention. DeVine’s crude yet loveable antics have always set him apart, and it will be intriguing to see if he can maintain this for an entire movie.

Directed by first-timer Jake Szymanski (a veteran of Funny Or Die and Saturday Night Live) and based on a script by Neighbors’ Andrew J. Cohen and Brendan O’Brien, the film sounds like a comedic certainty, with the combined presence of Kendrick, Efron and DeVine meaning that it should be immensely watchable.

Pitch Perfect 2 just got funnier, as Adam DeVine is now officially confirmed to return for the a cappella comedy sequel, which is set to be directed by Elizabeth Banks this time around. We've been hearing updates on the cast, but most of the confirmed actors for the followup have been female. With his busy schedule, between his feature work, his Comedy Central commitments as an actor and a writer, and his other appearances, we weren't sure if we were going to see DeVine's character Bumper back for Pitch Perfect 2, but it looks like he will return after all.

Deadline reported the news, noting that the scene-stealer is on board for Pitch Perfect 2. He joins confirmed returners Rebel Wilson and Anna Kendrick, as well as newcomer Hailee Steinfeld. And based on a photo that circulated late last month, we'll also be seeing Bellas Ester Dean, Alexis Knapp, Brittany Snow, Hana Mae Lee and Kelley Jakle in the sequel.

In Pitch Perfect, Adam DeVine played Bumper, the leader of the all-male college a cappella group The Treblemakers. In addition to rocking the microphone, Bumper was well known for some of his funny (oftentimes rude) lines. This featurette breaks down some of the highlights of DeVine's character in Pitch Perfect.

When last we saw Bumper (Pitch Perfect spoiler alert), he was parting ways with the Treblemakers not long before the final competition. Earning himself a job as a back-up singer for John Mayer, Bumper took off and the Treblemakers went to the competition without their leader, but still pulled off a pretty fantastic performance, thanks in part to Skyler Astin's character Jesse, and Jesse's under-appreciated but totally magical roommate Benji. The Treblemakers lost to the Bellas, however, and we wouldn't be all that surprised if Bumper were to claim that their failure was due to his own absence. Regardless, it'll be exciting to see how Adam DeVine's character is reintroduced for the sequel, and whether or not his interest in Rebel Wilson's Fat Amy is returned this time around.

As an actor and a writer, DeVine's been very busy lately, starring and writing for his Comedy Central series Workaholics and voicing the role of Pizza Steve in Uncle Grandpa. He also has Adam DeVine's House Party at Comedy Central, and on the feature side, his credits include Neighbors (keep an eye out for "Beer Pong Guy #1), Break Point and the anticipated horror The Final Girls.

Pitch Perfect 2 is scheduled to arrive in theaters May 15, 2015.

Hey, A-ca-ballers, pull out your rape whistles. Stop eating your twins, and throw on your Bumper-sponsored sports sandals. We’ve got some important news to talk about. Pitch Perfect is coming back in all its hysterical and catchy glory. There will be renditions of hit songs, hilarious dialogue and some of our favorite characters.

I say some because we don’t really know who will actually be in the movie. Original screenwriter Kay Cannon, who is returning, hasn’t completed a studio-approved draft of the script yet, and apart from Rebel Wilson, Anna Kendrick and Elizabeth Banks, who will direct, it’s unclear if anyone else has even been contacted to gauge their interest levels at returning. Consequently, there’s an overwhelming likelihood that some of the more important faces from the first film will not be returning, but that’s actually a good thing.

You can’t make the exact same movie over again, especially when it involves college students who are graduating and going on to different things. It works okay to make up an excuse for one or two graduates to come back, but to be true to life, you really need to inject new blood. That was part of the secret of Friday Night Lights. People grow up. They graduate. New spots open up. New conflicts arise, and for that to happen, some favorites have to go.

So, without further ado, here is a round up of the main characters and some words on whether or not I’d like to see them come back.

Come Back: Beca Mitchell

Beca is the anchor of Pitch Perfect. Despite her hatred of movies and her angsty personality, her life outlook and clever comments are what propels the film forward. I would watch an a capella movie without her, but there would be no point in calling that film Pitch Perfect. She’s the only character that is an absolute prerequisite for the new film. She’s the only possible dealbreaker, at least as far as my excitement level.

Besides, there’s plenty more about Beca’s life we can easily look into. Now that she’s 20% less angry, we could get some awkward failed bonding scenes with the step-monster. We could look into her taking some real shifts as a radio DJ on the campus, and (gasp) we could potentially see her on some dates with different types of dudes who might not pursue her as aggressively as Jesse did during Round 1.

Fine To Leave: Jesse Swanson

I really like Jesse. His unrepentant optimism and endless array of goofy jokes are the perfect counterpoint to Beca’s mopey nonsense, but it’s really hard for a girl in her late teens/ early twenties to grow as a movie character with a stable, long-term boyfriend. There has to be some kind of conflict, and considering much of the first movie was spent with him trying to win her over, I highly doubt Banks and company are going to want to travel along that same route again.

So, as much as it pains me to say it, Jesse may have to get kicked to the curb in the interest of the larger film. Or he may have to be comfortable accepting a far smaller role, one in which he isn’t the single biggest influence on Beca’s personality. In a perfect world, there would be enough time to follow a boy’s and a girl’s a capella group, but this franchise has always been and will always be primarily focused on the ladies.

Come Back: Bumper Allen

Last time we saw Bumper, he was hitting the road and throwing up his middle finger at his a capella mates following a surprise offer to sing back-up for John Mayer. In a perfect world, I’d like to give that hysterical sideplot its own spin-off movie (kinda like Get Him To The Greek), but since that’s not going to happen, I think we all need to take more Bumper scenes wherever we can get them, especially when they involve the awkward sexual tension with Fat Amy.

Maybe a horrible experience with Mayer has shattered his confidence, and he’s returned to school to get his mojo back. Maybe he’s churned out a few hit songs and will cameo as the head judge for Pitch Perfect 2’s final a capella contest. I don’t really know how it should happen, but I need Bumper’s swaggy awesomeness. I need to hear him tell people to fuck off in perfect key at least one more time in order to die a happy man.

Fine To Leave: Aubrey Posen

Aubrey is a great foil for Beca in the first film. With her obsession with appearance and heavy reliance on the past, she’s very much our star’s opposite, and watching her slowly change over the course of the film is one of the more rewarding journeys we get. I wouldn’t change a thing about her role in Pitch Perfect, but considering she’s much older and presumably would have graduated by the time any sequel takes place, it doesn’t really make much sense for her to be around.

Besides, I’m not really sure where her character could go. The last thing you want in a sequel is for someone to complete the exact same character arc all over again. With Beca inserted as the woman the other ladies look up to, there’s just no place for her anymore that doesn’t involve morphing into some kind of supervillain that starts a rival a capella group. And who wants to see that?

Come Back: Lily Okanakamura

She starts fires. She eats fetuses she certainly shouldn’t be eating. Altogether, she’s the single most ridiculous member of the Barden Bellas. It’s many of her lines that have become the most quotable entries from the original film, and it would be an absolute shock if she wasn’t back in a key supporting role in the next film. The requirement, however, is to keep her role in the supporting category.

Lily works as an absurd counterpunch to the other characters. Her lines need to be heavily regulated. Too much and she could easily turn from a breath of fresh air to an annoying and over the top caricature that ruins the overall flow and helps the entire franchise to jump the shark. She’s like The Hangover’s Leslie Chow in that way. In five or ten percent of the film, she’s comic gold. In twenty-five or thirty percent, that weirdness is likely to become off-putting.

Fine To Leave: Benji Applebaum

I love bad magic. Failed illusions delivered with misguided confidence add up to roughly half of the reason why I’m all about Phil Dunphy on Modern Family, but there’s just not a whole lot of things to do with Benji, especially if Jesse is written out of the second movie. The only way he would make sense is if the new film followed a men’s a capella group the whole time too, and even then, said a capella group couldn’t involve Bumper. There’s just no way he would ever be okay singing alongside Benji.

Nope. Benji probably needs to be left out of the new film, but honestly, I’m sure anyone will really have a problem with that. I’ve never heard a single person cite Benji as one of their favorite characters. He’s, at best, a slightly amusing distraction. If producers loved him, maybe he can show up for a scene or two, but in general, it would be better for everyone involved if he’s basically out of the way moving forward.

Come Back: Fat Amy

There are more than a handful of ridiculous characters in Pitch Perfect, but the key to Fat Amy is she’s on the right side of the human line. She’s outlandish and goofy, sure, but she always feels like a real person with real emotions. So, she can not only steal scenes with her hysterical quips, she can also come up with real ideas, give other characters real feedback and even make astute observations about the larger Pitch Perfect world.

Technically, a sequel could be done without Fat Amy, but apart from Beca, she’s the one character whose absence might keep fans away. With a ton of untouched personal life backstory and individual relationships with Bumper and many of the girls, there’s plenty of different places Banks and company could hypothetically take her, and at this point, there’s no reason to think she won’t steal damn near every scene she’s in in the upcoming film too.

Fine To Leave: Chloe Beale

Everyone be quiet for a minute. Let’s have a moment of silence for poor Chloe and her nodes. All she wanted to do was sing. Instead, her vocal chords betrayed her, deepening her voice and nearly removing her ability to sing. Miraculously, the bass in her new voice really helped to round out the arrangement during the first film, but considering her age, it’s hard to imagine there will be space for her or her Barry White voice in the upcoming film. She’s not capable of being the villain. She’s not really funny enough to be a random supporting character. She only works as a sort of peacekeeper, but if Aubrey is gone, who would she be keeping the peace with?

I’m a Chloe fan. She’s one of my favorite characters in the first film, probably because she likes surprising people naked in the shower and carefully knows how to push Aubrey without making her stress vomit (usually), but sometimes tough choices need to be made in the interest of the larger material.

Did you know Adam DeVine can sing? Well, if you've seen Pitch Perfect, you do, but fans of Workaholics may not have been aware, which might have been why Conan O'Brien decided to bring the subject up during his interview with the cast this week in anticipation of the series' Season 4 premiere. This led to an airing of grievances for Blake Anderson, who plays Blake Henderson in the Comedy Central series, as Anderson pointed out that they're supposed to be there to talk about teh show, not DeVine's singing abilities. And that led into a rocking musical performance featuring Anderson and DeVine. Because if you can't hug it out through song, does the friendship have any chance?

I mean, Conan did shift the subject away from Workaholics and onto DeVine's non-Workaholic-related singing abilities and involvement in the excellent a cappella-focused comedy Pitch Perfect. Anderson had a point. But DeVine had an even better comeback. A song and tribute to his best friend. His loyalty and appreciation for his fan is clearly equal to his singing abilities. Everybody wins. I think things really take off right at the point where DeVine gets rough with the centerpiece:

But back to Workaholics, as mentioned, the Comedy Central comedy returned last night for its fourth season. Here are a couple of clips from the episode.

It's been three long years, but the long-gestating John Belushi biopic is no longer in the hands of director Todd Phillips, and will be moving forward without him. Not that I have a strong distaste for Phillips, but I don’t think anyone who directed Starsky & Hutch and the Hangover series should be the guy telling a story about one of the most iconic comic performers in modern history. Taking over the reins is Steve Conrad, who also wrote the untitled project’s screenplay. He’s nowhere near as accomplished a director as Phillips, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing.

Conrad’s main claim to fame behind the camera was 2008’s workplace comedy The Promotion with John C. Reilly and Seann William Scott. While that’s hardly worth judging him for, he also wrote the screenplay for Ben Stiller’s upcoming comedic drama The Secret Life of Walter Mitty and the currently filming Vince Vaughn comedy Business Trip. He’s also has screenplays for 2005’s The Weather Man and 2006’s The Pursuit of Happyness on his resume, so it’s clear he’s adept in telling stories both humorous and emotional. And that’s Belushi’s life in a nutshell.

THR reports Conrad has already got his eye on a surprising handful of actors to lead the film, having met with Emile Hirsch, last seen in this year’s Prince Avalanche, and Adam Devine, the completely oblivious Adam DeMamp on Comedy Central’s Workaholics. Another name that’s come up in conversation for the part? Joaquin Phoenix. I would love to see Devine kill this role, but I have no idea how dramatic an occasion his talents can rise to. Otherwise, I’m only mildly interested in seeing Phoenix or Hirsch land it. Can you imagine either of those guys genuinely trying to pull off being Jake Blues, even for a single sequence?

Additionally, Conrad has met with Nelson Franklin, most recognizable from the series Traffic Light, Veep and New Girl, to play Belushi’s friend and frequent co-star Dan Aykroyd. I’m not totally against this idea, though it would take some getting used to. Incidentally, Aykroyd is serving as an executive producer, while Belushi’s widow Judy Belushi Pisano will also be producing.

THR says the film “hopes to tell the story of a man that embodied both the glory and the tragedy of the American dream as it focuses on Belushi at the height of his fame.” It seems like all Belushi knew was the height of fame, as his SNL years gave way to breakout roles in films like Animal House and The Blues Brothers before his untimely drug overdose in 1982, at just 33 years of age.

I know this flick is going to get a little depressing but I hope it’s well documented how funny Belushi could be. Such as in the clip below, in which he and Aykroyd take Brian Wilson out surfing.

The guys who star in Workaholics aren't exactly household names, but they're slowly getting there, and in the middle of their Comic-Con panel today they revealed what that next step might be. Answering a fan question about their future projects, the guys-- that's Blake Anderson, Adam DeVine and Anders Holm-- revealed that they are working together on an action comedy script that all three would also star in. And this isn't the kind of thing where you and your buddies get together to bang out a screenplay for fun. They've got Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg on board to produce along with Scott Rudin, one of the most powerful and prolific producers currently working.

Rudin is the force behind recent Oscar nominees like There Will Be Blood and The Social Network with a ridiculous diverse resume, from The Addams Family and Sister Act back in the 90s to this year's Frances Ha and the Coen Brothers' upcoming Inside Llewyn Davis. So while it's tempting to say we didn't exactly expect him to back a project from the Workaholics guys, the guy seems to live for the element of surprise. So far as we know this script hasn't been officially announced before, and even though DeVine was a member of the breakout cast of Pitch Perfect, none of the guys seem to have any higher profile projects in the future. Does that mean we can hope to see this one going soon?

Eh, don't get too excited-- promising comedians are handed development deals pretty often, and there's no guarantee that what the Workaholics guys come up with will be seen as a viable movie by Rudin or anyone else who would pony up the cash. But if you're a Workaholics fan, know that powerful people in Hollywood are fans with you… and if we're lucky, we'll see the trio stick together for something bigger and more action-packed than we've seen them do before.
