Also, considering he was seen playing basketball hours and then picking up coffees before the wedding, it would seem that he really didn’t put much preparation into officiating right before the ceremony.

However, his speech seemed to be received well, with Reid calling it “phenomenal.” That’s not surprising either, especially since the comedian loves both Swift and Kelce, and that feeling is clearly reciprocated.

Notably, this wedding happened about a year after Travis Kelce had a cameo in Happy Gilmore 2, and Taylor Swift laughed about the movie and fans thinking she was the bear in it. Adam Sandler missed out on his nomination again. The beloved comedian’s name was consistently thrown around throughout the awards season. He even picked up some lesser nominations, most notably at the Critics Choice Awards, but this morning, he was once again shut out at the Oscars.

I’m not terribly surprised. His role in Jay Kelly was widely praised by both fans and critics, but over the past few months, the larger movie has faded from potential Best Picture nominee to longshot. George Clooney’s Best Actor chances suffered a similar fate, which left Sandler hanging on as the only hopeful still in at least semi-serious conversation. Ultimately, the whole movie got ignored.

From a personal standpoint, I’m not nearly as confused and angry as I was when the Academy overlooked his all-time turn in Uncut Gems. I still think about how unhinged and memorable he was in that movie. His work in Jay Kelly was much more subtle, and given the strength of competition in the Supporting Actor category, he probably didn’t have enough stand out scenes to make the top five. That happens, and I certainly don’t blame the voters.

As someone who grew up watching Adam Sandler movies while also mainlining weird artsy movies on IFC, I have loved watching Sandler get a bit more daring and take on different roles later in his career. It feels like two of my loosely related interests are giving me a crossover I didn’t realize was possible. He’s been rewarded for branching out with the best critics reviews of his career, but I was hoping he would be more formally rewarded by the Academy with an Oscar nomination. That still hasn’t happened. So, let’s talk about the chances it does happen in the future.

Only Adam Sandler knows what his career goals look like long-term, but if we judge by the last few years, it seems like he’s now in a good rhythm of mixing in more serious projects with the goofy comedies he’s known for and which more recently have starred his friends and family members. Even though I’m a shameless movie snob, I think that’s a good balance. I don’t ever want Sandler to completely get away from what we all love him for, but I want to see something that pushes him outside his comfort zone at least every other year.

If Sandler continues that back-and-forth genre-hopping, I think there’s a strong chance he winds up with an Oscar nomination at some point. We know filmmakers with really strong track records at the Oscars want to work with him. Four time Oscar nominee Noah Baumbach just cast him in Jay Kelly. Josh Safdie, who just picked up a Best Director nomination for Marty Supreme, cast him in Uncut Gems. Paul Thomas Anderson, arguably the most acclaimed director of his generation, cast him in Punch Drunk Love. We know Safdie is planning to work with him again on an upcoming project, and other major A-list directors have expressed interest in collaborating in the past.

He’s also really good. People who haven’t watched his artsier projects might not fully get that, but like many SNL legends and renowned comedians, he has a fantastic sense of timing (think Oscar nominees Eddie Murphy and Bill Murray). He’s also able to convey a lot of emotion in his face. He’s mostly used that during his career in over-the-top comedic ways, but that same skillset translates well to showing other emotions like loneliness, anxiety and anger. The same charisma and aura that makes him so magnetic in Happy Gilmore works just as well for stealing scenes in dramatic movies, and he seems to have a really good sense for when to do less, which is something a lot of comedians don’t ever develop.

I don’t think Sandler is making more serious movies because he’s trying to win an Oscar. I think he’s making them because he wants to reach people in a different way, and he wants to push himself as an actor. In that way, he’s already won. He’s contributed great performances in some fantastic movies that will live on for people to discover decades from now. As long as he keeps doing that, it’s going to be worth the effort, whether he’s nominated or not. That being said, I’d like to see him get nominated at some point, and if he keeps working with high end directors at least every other year, I think he’s got a strong chance of doing that.

Yes, even famous people fangirl, and for Hailee Steinfeld, that seemed to happen when she met Adam Sandler. After the 2026 Golden Globe winners were announced, the Sinners star posted some BTS stories from the event. This included a run-in she had with the Happy Gilmore actor, and the incredibly excited reaction she had when he waved her over.

In a section of her Beau Society post titled “The best run-ins and catch-ups,” Steinfeld recalled her interactions with A-listers like Jennifer Lawrence, Ethan Hawke and Ayo Edebiri. The other actor she mentioned was Adam Sandler, and her adoration for him was on full display, as she wrote:

The Halloween costume she’s referring to involved her and Josh Allen dressing as Bobby Bouche and Vicki Vallencourt from The Waterboy, which is iconic. And between that and the reference to one of Sandler’s best rom-coms, Just Go With It, it’s pretty obvious that Steinfeld and Allen are massive fans of The Sandman.

However, it sounds like he’s a huge fan of them, too. That’s because, in the newsletter, it became clear that the SNL alum likely agreed with the 5-star reviews of Sinners, as he was the one who waved Steinfeld over to chat in the first place.

Well, it was just a compliment fest all around, it seems, and I love that for them. Not only did Sandler compliment Sinners, but he also complimented Steinfeld’s husband and the Buffalo Bills quarterback, Josh Allen (who had a game that day). What a gem.

Now, all this has got me wondering how Hailee Steinfeld and Adam Sandler could collaborate. Clearly, she has a very good understanding of his filmography, and based on her above comment, she seems like she’d be very down to act alongside him. Who knows, maybe if there’s ever a Happy Gilmore 3, they could even get Josh Allen in on it, considering his fellow NFL star, Travis Kelce, made a cameo in Happy Gilmore 2 (which you can stream with a Netflix subscription).

I know that’s wishful thinking, however, I don’t think it’s far-fetched to hope that Steinfeld and Sandler collaborate someday. They clearly are fans of each other, and this interaction proves how excited they both were to meet at the Golden Globes. Now, I hope they can make something happen.

2025’s Jay Kelly starring George Clooney as…well… George Clooney, features some amazing performances all around (including from the star). The film, which you can check out with a Netflix subscription, has a full complement of great supporting roles from Laura Dern, Emily Mortimer, and Adam Sandler, among many others. Sandler, especially, has been recognized for his wonderful turn as Jay Kelly’s manager, Ron. However, I think the actor who has sadly been lost in the shuffle for some reason is Billy Crudup. In a film full of great performances, I honestly believe Crudup’s might be the best.

It’s Such An Important Character

If you don’t remember, Crudup plays Tim Galligan, one of Jay Kelly’s classmates from acting school. Unlike Kelly, who is one of the biggest movie stars in the world, Galligan’s career never took off. After they run into each other at a funeral, they grab some drinks together. At this point, Galligan and Kelly seem happy to have run into each other after many years.

That’s when things get dark. It turns out that everyone in their acting class thought Galligan was the cream of the crop, but after he flubs an audition, Kelly tries out for the same part and wins the role, launching his incredibly successful career. Galligan has been bitter about it ever since. They end up physically fighting in the parking lot of the bar, and Kelly walks away worse for wear.

Crudup’s part is only on screen for a few minutes, and after the fight, we never see him again, but the confrontation follows Kelly throughout the rest of the film, including through the threat of a lawsuit. It’s a tribute to Crudup that we feel the reverberations until the end. He leaves a hell of a long tail, proving there are no small roles.

Don’t get me wrong, I love that Sandler is getting so many award nominations (and Clooney as well), and I hope he finally gets an Oscar nom (after he was denied for Uncut Gems), but I don’t get how Crudup isn’t getting more attention from the awards for the same category as Sandler (Best Supporting Actor). Yet, he doesn’t seem to have even been in the discussion among many Awards-watchers.

Weirdly, he’s not being talked about more. Billy Crudup’s career has been packed with awards. He’s won multiple Emmys for The Morning Show, and he’s got a Tony on his shelf, too (I was lucky enough to see him on stage in The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui in 2002). Yet, he’s never even been nominated for an Oscar. This role in Jay Kelly is worthy of that first nomination, and yet, it’s obvious that he’s a huge long shot at this point.

So, let’s celebrate all the actors in Jay Kelly, and that includes Billy Crudup!

We know comedians get one-liners shouted at them on the regular, as Will Ferrell told CinemaBlend fans shout his ‘meatloaf” line at him and Jon Heder told us he gets ‘Tina, you fat lard’ all the time. I’d assume it’s way easier to quote a line as a celebrity is passing by than to try and actually meet them, and would be an easy way to attract attention from a celebrity without putting real work in. So, Adam Sandler getting asked about the line fans shout at him most was not a real shocker. What did have me nearly spitting up my Gatorade Zero was the line fans choose.

In fact, Sandler was among the a-listers who were asked about lines thrown at them by fans, and he really was the only one with a surprise answer. Of course, fans shout “you’re welcome” at Dwayne Johnson and, of course, fans holler “yes, chef” at Jeremy Allen White. For Adam Sandler, it’s not something cutesy or iconic that's hollered at him, it’s actually an insult Happy Gilmore deals with throughout his tenure on the big screen that he hears “a lot.”

As a millennial who grew up right smack dab in the middle of Adam Sandler’s most popular movie releases, there are a lot of quotes that live rent-free in my head, and not always from Sandler’s best movies. Anytime I stub my toe or do anything stupid, I literally say, "Damn you, Scuba Steve." I also sometimes think about how “water sucks” any time I can’t take a break in a tennis match. These don’t even begin to encompass the funniest quotes from one of Sandler’s flicks.

“Jackass,” on the other hand, just doesn’t come to mind much, even though I like Happy Gilmore infinitely better than movies like Big Daddy and The Waterboy. So, I guess it’s easy to picture Adam Sandler just walking around in public and minding his own business and hearing a lesser-known line like “jackass” and then being annoyed for a hot second.

The thing is, it’s not even Sandler’s line. Instead, it’s one a heckler (played by Joe Flaherty, may he rest in peace) shouts at Adam Sandler throughout the course of Happy Gilmore, though it came back up again in Happy Gilmore 2 with Eminem’s already-iconic cameo. At this point, doubtless he’s used to it, but that doesn’t make it any less insulting, honestly.

So, for all you jackasses out there hollering this particular one-word quote at Mr. Sandler, I award you no points and may God have mercy on your soul. (OK, I know that’s not a Sandler line, but it just fits so well contextually.)

By most accounts, one of the best movies of 2025 (and possibly one of the best sports movies of all time) was Josh Safdie’s table-tennis stresser Marty Supreme, but the director’s Uncut Gems star Adam Sandler delivered one of the year’s other most sporting efforts with the long-awaited sequel Happy Gilmore 2. To be expected, Sandler shined as bright as ever, but it was his pro-golfing co-star and on-screen BFF John Daly who stole the show for me.

For all the seemingly countless callbacks to the original film, Daly himself wasn’t one of them, as he did not pop up in the 1995 release. What fans like me definitely didn’t know at the time was that Sandler and Daly were already pals, what with Daly popularizing the grip-it-and-rip-it driving approach. And in speaking with Hard Rock Bet, Daly revealed that he’d hoped to appear in Tamra Davis’ movie, but he was unfortunately nowhere near the production location at the time. As he put it:

Given everything we know about Happy Gilmore's plot, it's hard to know how and where John Daly might have factored into it. It probably wouldn't have made much sense for the tourney winner to already be living in Happy's backyard, as having a successful athlete bestie might have deflated the entire plot of the movie, since Happy could have just borrowed money from Daly to pay for his grandmother's house.

Alas, as fun as that might have been, it couldn't have happened, with Daly pointing out that he was out of the U.S. at the time when filming took place. Given the film's release in February 1996, one can assume that the production happened in mid-1995, at which point Daly was around the world pulling off a somewhat surprising victory at the Open Championship in St. Andrews, Scotland, with the event happening in July of that year. (Fun fact: that year marked the first Open appearance from a young Tiger Woods.)

While John Daly certainly would have been a fun addition to Happy Gilmore proper, part of the joy of his sequel character is that he's a goofy, older, white-haired homebody who doesn't take himself seriously at all. Which is a much easier role to pull off later in life, and not when one is in their professional prime. Who knows what kind of personality his fictional counterpart would have had in the mid-'90s?

To that end, Daly is very appreciative to have had as sizable a part as he did in Happy Gilmore 2, given his total lack of education in performances. As he put it:

Is it too early (or just stupid) to start petitioning for Adam Sandler and John Daly to co-star in a future season of True Detective as the lead investigators? It sounds like a joke, but now I feel the need to fill a fan-fiction notebook with ideas for that.

Happy Gilmore 2 is one of many Adam Sandler comedies fans can watch via Netflix subscription, alongside other streaming hits like Hubie Halloween, Murder Mystery and its sequel, The Week Of and more. His next feature Roommates, which will have the Sandman co-starring opposite his daughter Sadie, Nick Kroll, Natasha Lyonne and Storm Reid. It’s expected to debut among many other 2026 Netflix movies over the next 12 months, but the real question is whether Daly will show up in this one or in the sequel 30 years from now.

We’re deep into awards season, with the 31st Critics' Choice Movie Awards being held this past weekend, and the 83rd Golden Globe Awards airing on the 2026 TV schedule this upcoming Sunday. Looking further ahead into the future, the nominations for the 32nd Actors Awards, formerly known as the Screen Actors Guild Awards, have been announced, and there’s a solid lineup of performers that are in contention for those coveted Actor trophies. But as it goes with awards shows, there are also a fair amount of A-listers, including Dwayne Johnson, who didn’t make the cut.

It was only three months ago that Johnson was seen on the big screen starring as MMA fighter Mark Kerr in A24’s The Smashing Machine, which quickly drummed up accolades and awards buzz for the former Black Adam. While Johnson is among the actors who was announced as part of the 2026 Golden Globe nominations, he was not among the Actors Awards nominees unveiled earlier today. Instead, the Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role category consists of Timothée Chalamet in Marty Supreme, Leonardo DiCaprio in One Battle After Another, Ethan Hawke in Blue Moon, Michael B. Jordan in Sinners, and Jesse Plemons in Bugonia.

You can head over to the Actors Awards website to see the full list of nominees, but Adam Sandler, Emily Blunt, Amanda Seyfried, Cynthia Erivo and Gwyneth Paltrow are among the other actors who didn’t end up being recognized this year. Sandler would have been especially nice to see in the Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role category for his role as Ron Sukenick in Jay Kelly. But like I said, there are always going to be perceived snubs when awards nominations are announced; you can’t include everyone, otherwise what would be the point in having these ceremonies?

The good news is that like Dwayne Johnson, Adam Sandler, Emily Blunt, Amanda Seyfried and Cynthia Erivo will also compete at the Golden Globes, with the latter two actresses earning recognition for The Testament of Ann Lee and Wicked: For Good, respectively. Blunt, of course, starred opposite Johnson in The Smashing Machine, with this marking their second collaboration together following Jungle Cruise. Going back to the Actors Awards, other movies and TV shows that have actors being recognized this year include Frankenstein, Hamnet, Severance, The Diplomat and The Studio, among others.

Adam Sandler is definitely a man of many talents. He’s, of course, best known for being a comedian, but Sandler’s also a versatile actor. His talents are not only evident in his comedic films like Happy Gilmore or Billy Madison but also his dramatic work, such as Uncut Gems and Jay Kelly. It’s been said by Sandler’s co-stars that he usually appears to be quite chill on sets. However, the star himself just recently confirmed there’s one kind of scene he absolutely dreads, and he even dropped an F-bomb while talking about it.

The “Sandman” recently participated in The Hollywood Reporter’s Actor Roundtable, during which he discussed his role in Jay Kelly (which is now streamable with a Netflix subscription). Sandler also took some time to talk about how he approaches aspects of his work, and it appears there’s one part of a shoot that does rattle him – a crying scene. From there, Sandler explained why he doesn’t normally relish those on-camera moments:

I can definitely imagine just how challenging it would be for an actor to proceed with a crying scene. While there are those who’ve admitted to mastering the trick of crying on command, that’s not necessarily the case for everyone. Personally, the mere thought of having to act out a crying scene seems absolutely daunting to me. So I can see where the Waterboy star is coming from. With all of that in mind, though, I think Sandler has more than risen to the occasion whenever he’s had to get very emotional in certain scenes.

Adam Sandler has shed tears in both comedic films as well as his more dramatic movies. For instance, in 2006’s Click, Sandler cried during a particularly emotional moment that saw his character learn that his father had died. There’s also a solemn scene in 2007’s Reign Over Me, in which another character the star played tears up while delivering a heartbreaking monologue about his late family. In a more extreme instance, Sandler had to cry deliriously during a scene in Uncut Gems (a film that should’ve received Oscars love).

With Jay Kelly, writer/director Noah Baumbach also called for Sandler to shed some tears while playing Ron Sukenick, the manager of the titular character. Sandler gives a layered performance and, as of late, he’s been receiving awards buzz. Many have also been speculating that he could receive an Oscar nomination, though Sandler himself said he was just happy to have been able to reunite with Baumbach for his latest film.

I know the suit-sporting Sandler says he’s not much of a cryer in his personal life, but I’d be surprised if he didn’t shed at least a couple of tears of joy if he were to win a major award this year. All that aside, I’m impressed that the star is still able to firmly act out crying scenes despite his trepidation. Here’s hoping that, as time goes on, he continues to nail those scenes and continue to show his excellent range.

Adam Sandler is a name known across generations and genres, known best for his comedic performances on Saturday Night Live and his own Happy Madison pictures. However, even George Clooney agrees the Sandman is more than a funny actor, and his most recent pursuits prove it, particularly Netflix’s Jay Kelly. In no way could Sandler have possibly predicted what his career would grow into and, while he did aspire early on to make serious films, it was his grandmother who had a funny prediction.

Despite creating some of the most beloved movies all time, Adam Sandler has never been recognized on the coveted Oscars stage. Even after he’s traded in his basketball shorts for some more sophisticated slacks, perhaps marking a serious run at the award this year. Recently at an award season round table with THR, Sandler brought up the amusing way his grandma helped manifest dramatic roles for him, and how he ultimately landed one:

After thinking about it, I do believe Sandler’s grandma may have been onto something. It seems she read between the SNL impressions and the goofy comedies to see that grandson Adam had great acting chops no matter what genre. It’s what Caan and Sandler hold in common: they are two of the most versatile actors Hollywood has ever seen. Both have proven themselves to be invaluable in the others’ forte with a late career pivot.

The late James Caan was a serious actor who could crush comedic roles, and he did just that with his unforgettable turn in the Will Ferrell holiday classic Elf. Caan even joined Sandler in comedies like That’s My Boy and Bulletproof. Also, Sandler's dramatic chops left audiences stunned by 2019's Uncut Gems. As Sandler notes, Paul Thomas Anderson was the first director who saw the same potential as his grandmother.

Punch-Drunk Love received critical acclaim when it was released in 2002, even earning Sandler a Golden Globe nomination. The secretly sensitive, yet prone to angry outbursts, Barry Egan was unlike any character Sandler had played at the time. While the role has comedic elements at times, it forced Sandler to take on a more serious demeanor due to the film's themes of mental health struggles, loneliness and extortion. I'd argue it's a Sandler film that's not discussed as much nowadays, but it's one that everyone should watch.

Of course, that PTA movie wasn't a one-off, as Sandler is once again proving with his Golden Globe nominated performance in the acclaimed Jay Kelly. Very rarely do you see a film (in which George Clooney is the star)receive as much acclaim for a supporting actor. If anyone deserves it, it is Sandler, whose performance, in tandem with Clooney’s, really is the heart of the film.

Listen, as a Sandler enthusiast, I enjoy all his films, even the really corny ones, but I must admit Sandler's best films are the ones in which he plays more complex characters with emotional depth. I would love to see him pursue this path, now that he has a career where he can pretty much do whatever he wants. So I really hope he gets some recognition this award season for Jay Kelly, which is now streamable for Netflix subscription holders.

It’s no secret that Timothée Chalamet has had one of the best Hollywood careers in recent history. From multiple Academy Award nominations (with more likely on the way, with his triumphant Marty Supreme performance) to working with some of the greatest filmmakers of all time, the unabashedly confident actor has done it all. You would think he would have no qualms about life. Well, just don’t bring up a certain iconic Adam Sandler movie from the ‘90s.

When appearing together for a Vanity Fair panel in late 2025, breaking down some of each other’s best movies, the two 2025 Golden Globe nominees opened up the films and their legacies. A few minutes into the chat, the topic turned to the 1999 comedy Big Daddy, and Chalamet proclaimed that he should have gotten the role of Julian "Frankenstein" McGrath over twins Dylan and Cole Sprouse, saying:

Chalamet, who just celebrated his 30th birthday in style (along with all kinds of buzz surrounding Marty Supreme and its marketing campaign), is a few years younger than the twins who made audiences cry with their “But I wipe my own ass’ line in the film’s emotional courtroom scene. Though he would get his start in the business a few years later, you have to wonder what it would have been like if the Dune star had been spotted earlier.

As the conversation went on, Sandler pressed Chalamet on the “it should have been me” admission and asked if he went out for the role, which led to a funny interaction between the two:

• Adam Sandler: Did you come in and audition for that?
• Timothee Chalamet: [After some hesitation] No.

Chalamet didn’t get the Big Daddy part that led to the Sprouse twins appearing on Friends before getting their own series, The Suite Life of Zack & Cody. However, he would eventually make his feature film debut in 2014’s Men, Women & Children, a movie that featured Sandler in one of the main roles. It’s not a full-on comedy or anxiety-inducing drama from Josh Safdie, but you have to start somewhere.

As their chat about Big Daddy progressed, Chalamet found himself in the middle of the impactful Saturday Night Live alum flirting with his wife, Jackie Sandler, who appeared in a small yet memorable scene during a Monday Night Football game. In addition to gushing about his wife and the early days of their relationship, Sandler also attempted to clear up an internet rumor:

It’s clear that Sandler had a great time making Big Daddy, even if his younger fellow Golden Globe nominee missed a shot he didn’t take.

Who knows, maybe Chalamet and Sandler will get to work together again in the future. Personally, I’d love for an intense thriller starring these two electric stars, but an old-fashioned comedy with these two playing a father-son duo or a pair of brothers obsessed with wrestling and basketball could be something.

Ask anyone to name the most famous comedy actors working today, and I don’t think it would take very long for Adam Sandler’s name to come up. From his Airheads and Saturday Night Live years up through his current Netflix-tethered partnership, the dude has been a household name for over 30 years, and is currently garnering some major Oscar vibes for his excellent work opposite George Clooney in Jay Kelly (currently streaming via Netflix subscription). He’s pretty much living proof that dreams can be achieved.

Because for the Brooklyn-born comedian, hitting a certain level of fame is what it was all about, and Eddie Murphy’s meteoric rise to the top is what Sandler strived for early in his own career. Sure, being funny helped, but as he put it in an interview alongside Clooney for The Sunday Times, it was all about getting recognized. In his words:

Understandably, Adam Sandler wasn’t a 17-year-old stand-up comedian who dreamed of portraying dozens of characters with hearts of gold, or of winning awards through SAG-AFTRA, or of eventually making a life where he can work with his kids on a semi-regular basis. None of those matured thoughts tend to crop of that early in life. Instead, he wanted to be Eddie, because Eddie was the man!

Looking back, it’s almost as if Eddie Murphy was famous from the moment he exited his mother’s womb. He was making audiences laugh from the stage starting at age 15, was on the SNL stage before he was 20, and had three home run theatrical comedies with his first three attempts: 48 Hrs, Trading Places, and Beverly Hills Cop. I didn’t have many aspirations for stand-up as a kid, and even I wanted to be Eddie Murphy, albeit with far less NSFW jokes.

Despite not landing a role in 1988’s Coming to America, another hugh notch in Murphy’s acting belt, Adam Sandler certainly did okay for himself throughout the 1990s, even if his rising star wasn’t hurtling quite as fast. Rather than releasing straightforward stand-up albums in the vein of Murphy’s Raw and Delirious, Sandler released ribald sketch-and-song albums that matched his juvenile big-screen characters like Billy Madison and Happy Gilmore. It was a winning combination, to say the least.

Audiences didn’t just want that side of Sandler, either, as evidenced by the number of romantic comedies and family films he began producing and starring in, and often opposite huge names like Drew Barrymore and Jennifer Aniston, to name a few. In fact, despite starring in a small variety of movies that might have completely killed other actors’ careers — I’m looking at Jack and Jill and You Don’t Mess with the Zohan, though I’m sure The Waterboy and Little Nicky would have tanked for others as well — Sandler has somehow kept his Teflon coating and avoided any lengthy career setbacks. What’s more, he often follows those critical and audience flops with his best dramatic work, from Punch Drunk Love to Funny People to Uncut Gems.

Compare that streak to Eddie Murphy, whose career has continuously been deflated by poor project choices. For all the respect and kudos that he deservingly maintains, it’s hard not to wonder what the 2000s would have been like for Murphy with different projects to explore. His newest project stems from Happy Gilmore 2 director Kyle Newacheck, so perhaps fans will get to see Sandler and Murphy sharing the screen among the 2026 movie releases if and when Playas Ball comes out.

Americans may associate the term “fanny” with something harmless, as George Clooney explained. It’s a silly word often used to describe a person's bottom, which is why we call small pouches that sit across your waist “fannypacks.” Apparently, through his marriage to Amal Clooney, George learned that the Brits interpret the word incredibly differently, and it’s actually super crude. Its use would be enough to get some gasps on British TV.

I kind of love that even after years of making crude jokes on screen, and starring on SNL, arguably the most iconic sketch comedy show of all time, Sandler still wasn’t familiar with this English mistranslation across the pond. I'm glad the Michael Clayton star clued his buddy in, as he may have possibly learned all of this the hard way.

The Sandman's reaction is also amazing. He wasn’t even completely shocked about the true crassness of the word. He was, in fact, absolutely delighted. The Happy Gilmore star even suggested that this new information will prompt him to use it more. This is so perfectly Adam Sandler.

It's true that Sandler has taken a turn as an actor, taking on more serious films like Uncut Gems and more recently, Jay Kelly. Yet he has still maintained his love of comedy and the joy of a dirty joke. He’s a man of many talents, and I love that he hasn’t let go of his juvenile sense of humor.

Ultimately, the whole exchange is a perfect reminder of why Sandler has remained such a beloved presence in Hollywood for decades. Also, Clooney’s dry delivery and excited amusement makes the moment even more charming. It showcases their unexpectedly endearing chemistry as actors.

Adam Sandler guested on The Drew Barrymore Show to talk about his new movie, Jay Kelly, which is now streaming for those with a Netflix subscription. Barrymore brought up this fun fact about their popular movies, saying:

Some of the most magical sequences between the actors are the moments where Adam Sandler’s characters have sung to Drew Barrymore. Memorably, Sandler surprises Barrymore on a plane with “I Want To Grow Old With You” at the end of 1998’s The Wedding Singer. I know I’m moved every time I watch Sandler pluck “Forgetful Lucy” by fireside in 2004’s 50 First Dates. As Barrymore revealed, she wouldn’t let those scenes be filmed any other way but live in the moment. As Sandler added during the talk show moment:

It’s an inspired decision by Drew Barrymore, because in those scenes you really feel the joy and amazement from her characters that you might not get the same if they had rehearsed the scene over and over. Could Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler recapture their dynamic with another love story? Well, the pair did talk about this back in 2020, where Barrymore said they should “wait” until they “find something amazing,” noting it has to be “special” and “as iconic” as their other roles together. Given the fact that Sandler has often reunited with familiar co-stars and remains close friends with Barrymore, I certainly am holding out hope that she’ll get another live serenade, and we’ll see another great serenade sequence between them.

The comparative descriptor “like an Adam Sandler movie” can draw out a surprisingly comprehensive spectrum of assumptions, including sophomoric comedies, pulse-pounding dramas and feel-good family fare. Even with that in mind, Noah Baumbach’s critic-pleasing Jay Kelly still feels like an outlier, as the 2025 Netflix Original adheres to its reality in a grim way that many of Sandler’s movies don’t, even with all of its luxurious excess.

As good as all of the performances are in Jay Kelly, from the vulnerability shown by George Clooney to the Laura Dern-iness of Laura Dern, I found it extremely easy to relate to and sympathize with Sandler’s ever-loyal Ron Sukenick, the long put-upon manager whose time is most easily manipulated by Jay’s whims. In my mind, Ron is the true protagonist, and the role really crystallized some of the long-standing feelings I’ve had about the SNL vet’s performances that I admittedly hadn’t fully examined before.

Adam Sandler Is Getting Oscar Buzz For Jay Kelly, And I Think It's Well Deserved

As Ron Sukenick, Adam Sandler plays someone who puts his professional responsibilities above all others, and puts the happiness of his blue-ribbon client far above his own, with Ron's family forever forced to take the backseat. There's disappointment to be had, but also a hardened resignation in knowing that this is what life is like with Jay Kelly in the spotlight, and is also what pays the bills. It’s a role that doesn’t give Sandler many moments where he’s flashing his signature smile with authenticity, and there's instead a sense of fatigued surrender lingering beneath the surface.

To me, Ron's arc in the film is the most successful and bittersweet, and I genuinely found myself surprised when he agreed to stick around for the award ceremony, mainly because I think he deserves more than just a last-ditch stab at friendship from Jay. I just care about the dude.

Sandler sparked Oscar buzz even before Jay Kelly’s trailer was released, due in part to his fashion choices, but that awards buzz continued even after the movie screened, which the actor had a great response to. Helping those assumptions along is the fact that his name was indeed called when the Golden Globes nominations were announced on Dec. 8. I think that nod and an Oscar nom are both deserved, and it’s in large part because Ron feels like Adam Sandler when he's slightly more bummed out than usual.

Ron Sukenick Brought Into Focus That My Favorite Adam Sandler Performances Are (Almost) Always His Least Performative

There are hundreds, even thousands, of actors out there who absolutely need to bring an extra spark to a performance, as their default personalities are either not interesting or not dynamic enough to hold attention. But Adam Sandler doesn't need to embrace any such artifice, as his natural charisma and low-energy demeanor are endlessly watchable, regardless of whether he's giving a late-night interview, commanding the stage for a stand-up performance, or heading up a star-studded Netflix comedy.

Sandler is the king of casual, regardless of genre, and that's the zone I love to see him in the most, when it seems like he just walked off the street and stepped into the role. I could go the rest of my life without ever seeing or even thinking about The Waterboy or Little Nicky again, for instance, because Bobby Boucher and Little Nicky are two of the most annoying movie characters I can think of. I'd also change seats in a bus if Hubie Halloween or Sandy Wexler sat next to me, and they're not the only ones.

Even though I absolutely adore Adam Sandler's comedy albums, which hinge almost entirely on the actor playing over-the-top characters, those short bursts are far easier to contend with than feature runtimes. If I'm sticking around for 90+ minutes, I'd much rather watch Sandler play someone as close to a real person as possible, even if the narrative is a stretch.

In this respect, I'm talking about him playing Barry Egan in Punch-Drunk Love, Sonny Koufax in Big Daddy, Don Truby in Men, Women & Children, George Simmons in Funny People and Danny Friedman in You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah. Even Longfellow Deeds feels like a normal dude, though I don't really like that movie very much. And sure, Uncut Gems' Howard Ratner isn't 100% natural, but it doesn't require the actor to dumb himself down at all, so it works here.

That Doesn't Mean I Dislike All Of The Movies With Adam Sandler's Wackier Roles

To be sure, this whole career-arcing view on Adam Sandler is definitely more tied to performances than my overall opinions of the movies themselves. For instance, I think Happy Gilmore is one of the funniest sports movies of all time, but I don't think Sandler's acting is particularly outstanding, and the character is often a self-obsessed turd. Same for Billy Madison, which I love despite its doofus titular character. (I also think Hubie Halloween is fun, for all that I bump against the character himself.)

As well, I don't particularly care for Robbie Hart or Henry Roth in The Wedding Singer or 50 First Dates, but I'll rewatch both of those without issue. His vocal performances in the Hotel Transylvania movies and Leo can even get grating, but not enough to totally ruin those projects. And the list goes on.

So even though I don't think Jay Kelly was the best movie released in 2025 by a long shot, I do feel comfortable in saying it showcases one of my favorite Adam Sandler performances from his entire career. Is this my way of soft-launching an attempt to be Adam Sandler's new friend? I'm not saying that's true, but I'm also pointing to Jay Kelly and thinking I can do a better job than that guy in the friend department.

On paper, pairing Sandler — the Gen X comedy icon who’s spent the last decade slipping into prestige drama and nearing Oscar gold — with Ariana Grande, the pop superstar taking on her most demanding acting role yet in Wicked: For Good, sounds like a wild matchup.

But the conversation is surprisingly grounded and, now, all I can think about is the two of them co-starring in some prestige two-hander. Can someone call the Safdie brothers and have them get started on that script already? I’d watch it in a heartbeat, and I'd love a subsequent press tour in which the two break down the film as thoughtfully (and humorously) as they do the Elphaba slap.

There’s no denying that Jon M. Chu’s Wicked adaptations have changed many people for good. After setting box office records with Act I in 2024, the second half of the movie defied gravity even further when it hit the 2025 movie calendar last month. It’s not just the average moviegoer who has been touched by Glinda and Elphaba’s friendship, but Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo’s peers in Hollywood as well, and Adam Sandler had lovely things to say when he spoke with the former about Wicked: For Good.

Adam Sandler and Ariana Grande sat down together for Variety and CNN’s “Actors on Actors” series, and while I’m not sure how much overlap their fanbases have, the Sandman had nothing but praise and admiration for what she accomplished as Glinda in Wicked: For Good. He told her:

It seems to me like when Adam Sandler talks about “we,” he’s probably referring to his wife Jackie and their daughters Sadie and Sunny — all of whom have become regular features in the Sandman’s movies. I love that they have apparently seen Wicked and Wicked: For Good and discussed the love that Glinda and Elphaba have for each other.

Adam Sandler also noted how intense things got for Ariana Grande’s character in the movie’s final act and recognized how much work it must have taken to stay in that emotionally heightened state while filming. We’ve been fortunate enough over the past year to witness the beautiful friendship that has formed between Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, and I love that Grande was paired with Adam Sandler for this conversation, as he’s never shy about showing love for his friends either.

During his recent conversation, Sandler explained how the whole sketch came together quickly and at the last minute:

The Waterboy icon can be seen trying his hardest not to break during the sketch and, as it turns out, Chris Farley was intentionally trying to make that happen. Sandler went on to recall exactly how Farley would aim to make him crack:

The late Tommy Boy star knew how to generate laughs, and he definitely did so with the Herlihy Boy sketch. Adam Sandler has a deep appreciation for the art of comedy, but there's a particular sport that also holds a special place in his heart – basketball. Sure, Sandler is known for wearing basketball shorts on a regular basis but, even now, the actor occasionally plays a pickup game or two. Unsurprisingly, the beloved comedian would also hit the court when he was a younger man, and he would even hoop it up with some big stars. I’m particularly envious of the fact that he balled with the likes of George Clooney and Chris Farley.

The Happy Gilmore icon does indeed have some famous friends, and he met a number of them when he worked on Saturday Night Live back in the ‘90s. Among the brightest stars Sandler met during his stint as a cast member on the sketch comedy series was Clooney, who was emerging as the star of ER at the time. During an awards season event (which THR attended), Sandler recalled the time at which Clooney hosted SNL and remembered taking in a game of b-ball along with Farley. Seriously, the nostalgia is real:

Oh, to have been a fly on the wall within that recreation center to not only witness that game of basketball but also hear the conversations that were being had. (I also wouldn’t be surprised if there was a bit of trash-talking as well.) What I’m also curious about are the identities of the other comics who apparently joined Sandler, Farley and Clooney on the court. Regardless, based on the Waterboy’s recollection, he had a great time with his peers, and I just find this memory to be so cool.

It’s always sweet to hear Adam Sandler share great anecdotes about his friends, including those who are no longer with us. Chris Farley – one of SNL's most iconic stars – sadly passed away at the age of 33 in 1997 due to a drug overdose. While it’s been nearly 30 years since Farley’s passing, Sandler still pays tribute to him as do other comedians. Sandler’s performances of the Farley song are also particularly moving.

The “Sandman” also goes back a ways with George Clooney, and one of their first public outings as friends was a trip to a New York Knicks game. Overall, the event proved to be a humbling experience for Sandler, who admitted to feeling “invisible” next to Clooney. Despite having known each other for so long, Sandler and Clooney haven’t worked together until just recently, as they co-star in the 2025 movie release Jay Kelly. That film is actually the reason Sandler was at that awards event in the first place along with Marty Supreme’s Timothée Chalamet. Funny enough, their chat took place at Fairfax High School in LA where they played basketball against students.

Honestly, I’m not sure what I love more – Adam Sandler’s love of basketball or his sweet stories about his celebrity friends. It’s rare that those two elements sync up but, when they do, it’s incredibly sweet. Here’s hoping that Sandler has more pickup basketball games with his famous chums moving forward.

It's all very wholesome… until Sandler casually revealed the chaos that breaks out at home whenever Chalamet shows up.

On a recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! — where he was promoting his upcoming 2025 movie release and revisiting the now-infamous Fairfax High School basketball game — the Happy Gilmore lead explained just how much his family “transforms” whenever Chalamet visits. Before recounting how he and "Timmy" lost a 2-on-2 match against high schoolers, Sandler shared:

Half of Hollywood melts a little when Timothée Chalamet walks into a room, so of course, the Sandler home turns into a mild madhouse the minute “Timmy” hits the doorstep. The way the whole vibe reportedly shifts as the women in Adam’s life slip into full Chalamet-mania is domestic comedy gold. Someone needs to point a camera at that scene ASAP.

The Saturday Night Live veteran told Kimmel he’s known Chalamet since he was “young Timmy,” long before Little Women, his upcoming A24 flick Marty Supreme, or his red carpet takeover. The two had even worked on a movie years ago before the A Complete Unknown star's role was cut. Most recently, they reunited for a Netflix event at Fairfax High, where fans watched them play a 2-on-2 game against a pair of students. And according to the loveable funnyman, he and Chalamet were thoroughly humbled by the teens.

“We lost that,” Sandler said with a laugh. “I can’t win every game.” The students were thrilled — but apparently not as thrilled as the comedian turned Hollywood A-lister’s own family gets when the Wonka star visits their home. His daughters definitely have opinions about Dad being close with Timothée Chalamet, and the whole house seems to shift the moment he walks through the door. Given Adam Sandler and George Clooney were actors who dominated in the ‘00s, I’m surprised it’s taken them this long to work on a film together. Both stars reflected on their relationship while speaking with The New York Times and recalled that they first met after Clooney hosted SNL in 1995. Around that same time, Sandler -- a breakout cast member on the show -- believed he was “becoming a star” until the pair attended a New York Knicks game:

With Sandler known for being such an extreme basketball fan, it’s no surprise his first hangout with Clooney was a Knicks game. As much as I would've felt for the comic during that awkward outing, I find it funny that all eyes were on the dreamy ER actor. If anything, though, Sandler seemed to get a reality check that he can joke about now.

The Jay Kelly co-stars certainly had big careers ahead of them after 1995. Sandler starred in his stand-out comedies from his own production company, Happy Madison, and Clooney went on to headline blockbusters and award-winning movies. Still, the Gravity actor got real with The NY Times about always wanting to work with his buddy in the years since they attended that game:

For example, the Michael Clayton actor has apparently been making his friend to wear suits more. With that, Sandler has been amping up his red carpet A-game lately with his snazzy attire.

Fashion aside, though Clooney has been emphasizing that Sandler is more than simply a comedian. If Sandler can possibly receive an Oscar nomination for Jay Kelly, as pundits speculate, who better to encourage that potential than his longtime friend?

So what are critics saying about the dramedy?

Jay Kelly has already hit theaters for a limited time before it premieres on the Netflix schedule on December 5. George Clooney stars as the titular movie star who sets out on a journey of self-discovery, with his loyal manager Ron (Adam Sandler) in tow. The movie is getting mostly positive feedback, but critics seem to agree it lets its main character off the hook too often. Mark Kennedy of the AP mentions this but ultimately says he likes director Noah Baumbach’s love letter to Hollywood. He gives it 3.5 out of 4 stars and says:

Brian Tallerico of RogerEbert.com rates it 3 out of 4 stars, pointing out a lot of good, but saying much of Jay Kelly feels calculated and too neat. Adam Sandler, however, according to Tallerico, saves the movie with a performance that some think could win him his first Oscar. The critic says:

Owen Gleiberman of Variety says Noah Baumbach is doing what he does best: feeding us a dialogue-driven drama that feels ripped from personal observation. However, the film is a bit too forgiving of the title character and doesn’t allow us to buy Jay Kelly as a flawed individual. In Gleiberman’s words:

Stephanie Zacharek of Time writes that Adam Sandler plays his role “superbly,” and Laura Dern threatens to steal it all in one scene with him. George Clooney, meanwhile, couldn’t be more well-suited to play Jay Kelly, getting to razzle-dazzle one minute and brood over his mistakes the next. But too often the movie refuses to dig deep into its actor’s conflicts, Zacharek says, continuing:

Nick Schager of the Daily Beast simply isn’t buying the “woe-is-me” version of George Clooney that he says mistakenly assumes that the routines of the rich and famous are the stuff of great drama. Schager calls the project “saccharine, toothless, and cheesily meta,” concluding:

It seems the most common complaint amongst the critics is that Jay Kelly doesn’t hold its protagonist accountable for the things he’s done to find himself in this state of identity crisis. Still, the majority of the critics are rating it favorably, to the tune of a Certified Fresh 80% on Rotten Tomatoes.

If you turned on any type of screen this year, it’s likely you saw Seth Rogen, and had a good laugh. He popped up multiple times over on our 2025 TV schedule, including through his own award-winning humorous take on Hollywood, The Studio. Yet, as we’ve come to know the funnyman over the years, we know he can take on serious roles a la The Fablemans or Steve Jobs. So why haven’t we seen Rogen pull an Adam Sandler-like transition into more titles with heavy-hitting directors?

As a part of GQ’s “Men of the Year,” the Superbad creator shared all about his goings on when it comes to Tinseltown. During the conversation, he revealed why his resume doesn’t have as wide an array as Adam Sandler movies has or reflect the variation of Emma Stone's greatest performances. The reality behind it is simpler than we’d all think: he takes them when they come, and he puts his other titles aside, saying:

Seth Rogen's response in how he nabs the projects is even funny, as the thought of Blockers vs. any of Fincher’s movies is a great juxtaposition, though no hate to the 2018 comedy. In all seriousness though, it has been interesting to see him evolve over the decades and shed his past skins. I think Rogen's been shifting dramatically, and The Studio seems to be a catalyst for this coming phase.

Fortunately though, I don’t think we’ll ever have to part with the funny side of the Knocked Up star. Humor seems to be intrinsically sewn into Rogen's DNA since he had a great response to the Emmys misspelling his name. On top of that, one of the 2025 movie calendar entries he was in, Aziz Ansari’s Good Fortune, tows that line of humor and drama. (Though it’s much more comedy leaning and has a surprising RT score.)

So it’ll be interesting to watch Rogen’s resume now that the reasoning is officially out there. Fingers crossed that some directors have perked up after catching wind of the sentiment. Personally, I’d love to see him shake it up with something dramatic among the smattering of comedies he has. After all, Adam Sandler (and many others) carved this exact path for new generations of comedians to showcase the depths of their talents.

In fairness, Adam Sandler’s faux desire to make bad movies was incredibly funny, so it’s not hard for me to understand why that would stick. In all seriousness, though, he has made some excellent flicks such as Hustle and Happy Gilmore 2. Jay Kelly – which is one of the marquee Netflix 2025 movie releases – may include one of Sandler’s finest performances, though, and he’s already receiving Oscar buzz.

So far, Sandler has been downplaying any kind of awards recognition and just seems happy to be a part of this latest film, which stars George Clooney and is directed by Noah Baumbach. Sandler has shown appreciation for the love he’s receiving, though, and that was also the case when it came to the compliment CB gave him:

However, it’s not simply Chalamet’s status as an accomplished actor that contributes to him making headlines. The 29-year-old Oscar nominee is also in a relationship with reality TV star and businesswoman Kylie Jenner (28). Both stars have been sought out by paparazzi in recent years, and even Adam Sandler finds the presence of so many photographers wild.

At this point, Adam Sandler has been a star for decades, and he’s achieved a level of fame and longevity that only select stars manage to obtain. Still, the 59-year-old comic believes Timothée Chalamet is experiencing a different level of public scrutiny. Both Sandler and Chalamet recently appeared at Fairfax High School for an awards season conversation that was attended by THR and more. His personal life aside, Chalamet is still drumming up buzz due to his film career. He’s currently in the midst of promoting the sports drama Marty Supreme, which is set to hit theaters in a matter of weeks. Chalamet is also set to reprise his role as Paul Atreides in Dune: Part Three, which just wrapped and will open in theaters amid the 2026 movie schedule. Chalamet is also reuniting with James Mangold (with whom he worked with on A Complete Unknown) for a motocross movie.

Also, like Sandler, I’m impressed by the work Chalamet has done thus far and how he manages to maintain his composure amid lots of paparazzi and speculation about his relationship with Kylie Jenner.

The streaming wars are in full effect, and those with a Netflix subscription have been treated to all sorts of content. That includes Adam Sandler's long-awaited sequel Happy Gilmore 2, and now it seems like leaning into more golf-focused content thanks to a series that's in production starring Will Ferrell. Unfortunately, he did recently suffer an injury in the midst of production. Let's break it all down.

Will Ferrell has worked on a number of notable Netflix projects, including his acclaimed documentary Will & Harper. He's taking a tip from Sandler by playing a fictional golfer in the upcoming Netflix series Golf. But according to a report by TMZ, the Anchorman actor suffered a "minor injury" off set, throwing a wrench into the shooting schedule. So the forthcoming series will have to switch things up as he's unable to follow through on this week's filming.

Thankfully, the injury was reportedly minor, and Netflix rearranged its shooting schedule to accommodate Will Ferrell's recovery. The actor and the network did not offer a statement to TMZ, but it seems like the situation isn't quite dire. And I'm just hyped we're getting more golf comedies in the future. After all, I gushed in my Happy Gilmore 2 review.

While information about Will Ferrell's Golf is limited, what we do know is pretty exciting. The series will have a full, ten-episode season and features other familiar faces like SNL legends Molly Shannon and Chris Parnell (whose tenure on the sketch show you can watch with a Peacock subscription), as well as comedian Fortune Feimster. The specifics of the show's story remain under wraps for the time being, but with so many all-star comedians involved, I assume it'll be a riot.

In addition to Will & Harper, Ferrell also worked with Netflix on Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga, opposite Rachel McAdams. But this time he's bringing a full TV show to the streamer, in his first major TV role since his cameo on The Boys and starring in The Shrink Next Door (which is available with an Apple TV subscription).

Golf is a unique sport, and the Happy Gilmore franchise has already poked fun at it plenty of times. I have to wonder what Ferrell and company have up their sleeves for the Netflix series. The funniest Will Ferrell movies have unique settings, and he's already put his spin on NASCAR, figure skating, singing contests, and more. So I'm curious to see what he's got up his sleeve... once he recovers from his injury, of course.

Golf doesn't have a release date yet, but fans are hoping that we see it as part of the 2026 TV schedule. We'll just have to see how long production takes and if Will Ferrell's injury results in any delays.

While speaking with People, Sandler – who’s been wearing suits to premieres lately – was asked how he felt about possibly being in Oscars conversations this year. So, for Adam Sandler, it’s not so much about the awards as it is about the experience of working on the film itself, and that’s a great perspective to have. Accolades are indeed cool to win, but getting hung up on them isn’t always ideal. Sandler isn’t the only star who is not prioritizing prizes this awards season either. Kiss of the Spider Woman star Jennifer Lopez also isn’t focused on trophies, as she enjoyed making the musical film. (Lopez also admitted that her experience with Hustlers taught her not to get consumed in any hype.)

Although the Waterboy star has yet to be up for an Oscar, I’d argue he’s given some performances that are more than worthy of nominations. Even now, I remain baffled by the fact that the Academy didn’t honor his work in some cases.

There Are Several Adam Sandler Roles That Could’ve Warranted Oscar Nods

Over the years, Adam Sandler has made plenty of rom-coms, though I’d argue the strongest among them is Paul Thomas Anderson’s Punch-Drunk Love. The film sees Sandler play Barry Egan, a lonely business owner with social anxiety who becomes infatuated with one of his sister’s co-workers. Anderson’s film is a tremendous piece of work, and it exemplifies the kind of range Sandler possesses as an actor. He received a Golden Globe nomination for his performance and, when the film turned 20 in 2022, Sandler told CinemaBlend he still has affection for the movie.

Another perfect performance from Sandler is on full display in Uncut Gems from the Safdie Brothers. Sandler is downright magnetic as Howard Ratner, a New York-based jeweler and gambling addict. The Safdies’ (intentionally) stressful approach to storytelling shines through in the 2019 film, but Sandler still manages to anchor the entire affair. Like many others, I believed the star would get a Best Actor nod. Still, Sandler (who did win an Independent Spirit Award for his work) had a refreshing take on not getting a nomination.

When it comes to honorable mentions, I’d also say that Reign Over Me, Spanglish, Spaceman and Hustle also feature layered performances from Sandler. As for Jay Kelly, that film sees him play the loyal manager of the film’s eponymous character. Don’t get me wrong, as I firmly believe Sandler is right not to concern himself with the reception to his work. However, I’d be lying if I said I wouldn’t love seeing him attend the Academy Awards as a nominee and not just as a participant in a funny Conan O’Brien bit.

It’s been a couple of months since Happy Gilmore 2 released on the Netflix schedule. I’ve watched it three times already, and I love the callback Julie Bowen scenes, the additions of Bad Bunny and some major WWE talent and so much more. Speaking of major cameos though, there’s one from NFL superstar Travis Kelce that really had fans amped and led to one memorable picture I still can’t believe exists on the Internet.

We can thank Travis Kelce’s brother Jason for the cool pic. A while back, he shared a photo of his brother – and podcast partner-in-crime – smiling at a camera alongside The Sandman himself and John Daly. Of course, I already have the context behind why the three would be posing together, yet it still feels strange and wonderful. If you haven’t seen it, take a look.

Even Travis Kelce called the moment “surreal” and Patrick Mahomes called it "legendary," so I know I’m not alone in thinking about how wild the universe can be sometimes.

In this case, John Daly randomly had a sizable role in Happy Gilmore 2 and was on set the day that Kelce was filming his cameo. Daly’s one of the best parts of the sequel, in my opinion, but the tight end did a good job too (even Christopher McDonald agrees!), and it’s nice to see the moment was commemorated this way. Not a bad souvenir to take home from your time on a movie, in my opinion.

It’s worth pointing out that Travis Kelce’s inclusion in the movie led to a swathe of rumors from Swifties that she’d also popped up in a bear costume. This was later debunked, but I had no idea going into the 2025 movie schedule that Happy Gilmore 2 would tie in with the Swiftie fanbase and become one of the most talked about movies of the summer.

Movies with this many cameos can kind of be overwhelming sometimes, but as an OG Happy Gilmore stan I was pleasantly surprised by the new sequel, and if you haven’t given it a watch yet, hopefully all of this will be enough to encourage you. At the bare minimum, this star-studded photos is definitely going to live on in infamy.

Now, I just need Happy Gilmore 3, and I’m going to need Taylor Swift to commit to a cameo this time. Please and thank you.

When you’re successful enough, you can basically wear whatever you want. In Hollywood, you can see how that's true in a myriad of ways. Many famous people dress very well, wearing high-dollar suits. Others wear more casual clothes, though often clothing that costs a great deal more than it looks like it does. Adam Sandler has been one star who is clearly more comfortable in basketball shorts and sneakers, but recently, something has changed.

It was noticed when Adam Sandler appeared at the Venice Film Festival that he was dressing up more than we usually see him. Fans suggested it was all part of an awards season campaign for his new film with George Clooney, Jay Kelly, and that Sandler was playing the part necessary for award voters to potentially consider him, a move deemed necessary following Sandler falling short of an Oscar nomination for Uncut Gems.

It turns out, however, that Sandler’s change in style came from somewhere a little closer to home. Speaking to People on the red carpet at the screening of Jay Kelly for the New York Film Festival, George Clooney says he’s the one who has been pushing Sandler to wear suits, and thinks the actor looks much better because of it. I’m not going to tell a grown man how to dress. I can barely tell my kids that, but I’m on team Clooney on this one. Adam Sandler looks pretty good in a suit. He’s also standing next to George Clooney, who always looks really good in a suit, and is holding his own, which just shows how well Sandler can pull it off. Sandler looks like he does this every day.

In Jay Kelly, George Clooney plays the title character, a famous actor who, alongside his friend and manager, played by Adam Sandler, travels through Europe while confronting the choices they made that brought them to where they now find themselves.

Sandler and Clooney play close friends in the 2025 movie schedule entry, and it appears that art very much imitates life as the Ocean's Eleven star celebrates his co-star and their own friendship. Clooney himself has complimented Sandler's performance in Jay Kelly, and he really seems to love his co-star, saying…

While Sandler’s new look may be at the urging of his friend and co-star, it doesn’t mean it won’t also have the effect of endearing Sandler to award season voters. While it’s far too early to tell, both Sandler and Clooney could be in line for some award season love. It seems clear that if they win those awards, they’re both going to look great on stage.

Bad Bunny has emerged as one of the most popular musical talents of the past several years, selling out shows and amassing a strong fan following. So it probably shouldn’t have come as much of a surprise this past weekend when the Puerto Rican rapper and singer was announced as the headliner for the Super Bowl LX halftime show. As excited as a number of people seemed to be, there were some who seemingly disapproved of the decision. Now, Adam Sandler is weighing in, and he has a love-infused take.

The Sandman is more than familiar with Bad Bunny, whose real name is Bentio Ocasio. Both stars worked together on Happy Gilmore 2, which was one of the biggest titles on the 2025 movie schedule. During the New York City premiere of his latest movie, Jay Kelly, Adam Sandler caught up with ET (as shared on Instagram) and was asked what he thought about Ocasio’s big gig. Not only did Sandler express enthusiasm over the development, but he also laid out why his good buddy is the right choice for the halftime show:

In addition to his signature sense of humor, the Billy Madison icon is also known for his sentimentality. Honestly, I’m not surprised at all that Sandler would have such kind words to share about his friend, and he makes some valid points. Bunny does indeed infuse his music with energy and varying emotions, and his tracks could certainly light up Levi’s Stadium come game night.

The “DTMF” performer was revealed to be the Super Bowl LX halftime headliner this past Sunday, at which point an official video was released by Apple Music to announce the news. With this, BB now follows in the footsteps of musicians like Bruce Springsteen, Michael Jackson, U2, Beyoncé and Prince who also performed at the game. When it comes to Bunny, he’s now the first Latin male to headline the SB halftime show. On the other side of the equation, there are some who’ve taken issue with Ocasio’s hiring and have called it a political move. Nevertheless, various fans and celebrities took to social media to lend their support to the rapper.

When it comes to the relationship between Bad Bunny and Adam Sandler specifically, I’ve loved hearing the two gush about each other. Before Happy Gilmore 2 hit Netflix earlier this year, Bunny shared positive thoughts on working with Sandler (who he can even impersonate), even referring to him as his “uncle.” Sandler also recalled the sweet story about how he met the Grammy winner at a Lakers game. Quite frankly, this is a surrogate uncle/nephew relationship that I’m completely here for.

Considering that he has an Adam Sandler movie, additional film credits and SNL appearances under his belt, Bad Bunny’s cultural footprint is growing. His upcoming SB performance could surely add further credibility to his status as a bonafide superstar. I’m predicting that he’ll go big for his show and, amid any continued backlash, I’d imagine that Sandler will be rooting him on during the big game.

Saturday Night Live is nearing its 51^st season, which premieres in October amid the 2025 TV schedule. The season comes after the show celebrated its 50^th anniversary with a three-hour special that aired earlier this year (and just won a 2025 Emmy). SNL50 was quite a celebration that brought back loads of SNL alumni and plenty of other celebrities. Among those alumni was Adam Sandler, who is now opening up about getting back on stage for the special.

Sandler joined SNL in 1990 as a writer and went on to join the cast the following year. Although he was fired in 1995, he’s occasionally returned to Studio 8H to cameo, and he hosted during Season 44. When Sandler attended SNL50: The Anniversary Special in February, he paid tribute to the show, cast, and those who are no longer here with a special song. The Happy Gilmore 2 star recalled what it was like getting on stage for the live show while chatting with Vulture, and it was just as emotional and nerve-wracking as you’d think:

The comedian was known for his songs on SNL, as he belted out tunes about Thanksgiving, Hanukkah and more. Of course, he also had the Opera Man character, so it was really only fitting that Sandler would do a song for the 50^th. Yet being tasked with performing a song that practically encapsulates the entirety of SNL that has both humor and emotion in it could not have been easy. Still, it sounds like everything eventually just clicked in his head, and he was able to do it without a hitch, despite some initial trepidation:

One of the reasons the song was so emotional was because Sandler named some former cast members who have since passed away. Chris Farley and Norm Macdonald were two of the late icons mentioned in the tune. SNL50 writers previously talked about why Farley references always become emotional when Sandler is involved, and they said it’s because Sandler is authentic and his relationship with Farley shines through.

Of course, the special song wasn’t the only way SNL celebrated its 50th anniversary. The show went all out for the special, with returning cast members, hosts, various musical guests, fan-favorite sketch characters, and a look back at some of SNL’s most iconic moments. The “special 50 years in the making” was as humorous as it was emotional. (It was also stressful, according to former cast member Andy Samberg.)

The stress of the 50^th season is over, and even with the cast shakeups for SNL’s 51^st season, there's still reason to be excited about the upcoming episodes. It'll surely be tough for the show to top the likes of Adam Sandler, Kristen Wiig and others appearing in that all-star special. Still, I trust that the cast and crew are cooking up some funny material.

The new couple was reportedly introduced by mutual friends earlier this summer and have been quietly hanging out for the past few months. They’ve seemingly gotten closer to going public, though, as Jennifer Aniston and Jim Curtis have been on two double dates in the past few weeks, per People — one with Courteney Cox and her longtime partner Johnny McDaid and another with Jason Bateman and Amanda Anka.

It’s always fun to see which celebrities pop up in Jennifer Aniston’s Instagram photo dumps, and would the summer really be complete without a reunion between her and The Sandman? Or dinners with Jason Bateman and Sean Hayes? We’ll also never get tired of seeing her reunite with her Friends co-star Courteney Cox, even 20 years after one of the best sitcoms of all time ended (but can still be streamed with an HBO Max subscription).

Jennifer Aniston has made it clear that no one has the right to know about her personal life, but that won't stop us from hoping that maybe she'll choose to let us in a little and show us more of Jim Curtis (next time, maybe we can see his face).

The Saturday Night Live's Season 51 cast has been seeing some changes ahead of its premiere on the 2025 TV schedule, meaning the show will be looking a little different come October 4. Of course, cast members leaving SNL is not unusual, but this is the first time in a few years that a handful of them have left at the same time. Devon Walker is among the four who have left before the new season, and he’s opening up about the keen advice fellow SNL alum Adam Sandler gave him.

Walker reflected on his time on Saturday Night Live while speaking with Rolling Stone. He joined the series in 2022 as a featured player for Season 48 before being upped to repertory for the 50^th. Although his time was short, and Walker previously admitted how SNL was “toxic as hell,” there were still some bright spots. He shared how, at times, it felt like working there could feel like family, or even a fraternity, and it’s a special bond that only a handful of people share, including Adam Sandler:

Before taking over the comedy film genre, Sandler was a cast member on SNL from 1990 to 1995 and had some of the most memorable sketches and characters. He’s remained close to much of his castmates and the SNL family as a whole, despite getting fired back in the ‘90s. He returned to host in 2019 and most recently participated in the SNL50 anniversary special.

Having been in the industry for a long time, Sandler certainly knows a thing or two about it and working on SNL. So, it's not surprising that the advice he gave to Walker was so brilliant:

As Walker said, the SNL cast is made up of comedians, improvisers, writers, etc., and the show takes up a big chunk of time. They’re working on episodes all week, with only a day or two of downtime probably, so the best time for them to work on other projects is between seasons. And the fact that Sandler wanted Walker to keep working on what got him there and not completely lose himself is really nice, especially for someone like Walker, who does stand-up and may not have a lot of time to do so during the season.

Walker has also opened up about his exit, revealing he thinks the show was ready to leave him, but now he seems to be looking toward the future. He’s revealed some A+ shows he wants to work on, such as Industry, The Bear, and Severance. Even though those are quite different from SNL and stand-up, he doesn’t seem to be afraid to branch out, much like Adam Sandler has.

Chris Farley is an example of an SNL alum who made a huge impact in the five seasons he was on. Whether he was dancing shirtless with Patrick Swayze or delivering one of his funniest sketch comedy quotes about his “van down by the river,” he always knew how to make an audience laugh. However, considering his untimely death in 1997, SNL 50 writer Dan Bulla got real about why mentions of the Tommy Boy actor these days always “steer” toward the emotional (especially when Adam Sandler is involved).

Chris Farley was a Hollywood star who never made it to 40, and we’ll always wonder what would have become of the comedic actor if he were still alive. If he were able to come on the 50th Anniversary Special with his other SNL alums, I know he would have stolen the show the moment he stepped on stage. During SNL 50, they still paid tribute to him, though, and writer Dan Bulla told Vulture that he and Adam Sandler knew how emotional it would be, explaining:

It’s natural that anytime you write a song about a friend who’s passed away, no matter how funny the lyrics are, the emotions will still kick.

Adam Sandler’s first time singing “The Chris Farley Song” was on his Netflix special 100% Fresh on the 21st anniversary of the actor’s death. When he returned as a Saturday Night Live host for Season 44, he played the song again for live-studio audiences. You couldn’t help but get emotional seeing the clips behind the 50 First Dates actor of the two starring in sketches together, like “Lunch Lady Land” and “Zagat’s.”

And, of course, The Sandman had to mention his best buddy in his and Bulla’s song “50 Years” that played during the 2025 TV release, SNL50: The Anniversary Special. After all, it'd be hard to pay tribute to one of the best sketch comedy shows without mentioning Farley.

There’s a reason why Adam Sandler works with his friends multiple times in his movies (including Chris Farley). He clearly likes working with familiar faces that he can have fun with and make humorous magic together. But despite how funny he can be onscreen, Dan Bulla reminded us that the talented actor is never afraid to wear his heart on his sleeve:

With both these tribute songs, it makes perfect sense why they're so emotional. Sandler is a loving guy, and he loved and still loves Farley deeply.

The Billy Madison actor has said himself that he’s played Chris Farley’s tribute song “maybe 100 times,” but the tune still gets to him. You could hear when Sandler’s voice breaks up a little when he’s playing that heartwarming number. But, the Uncut Gems star said he loved hearing the audience still “go nuts” when he mentions his pal’s name, showing the love fans have for Farley will never die.

Considering how close Adam Sandler was to Chris Farley, it’s always going to be emotional when he pays a tribute to his beloved friend. But, I’d like to believe he’s making Farley proud in keeping his memory alive and constantly reminding us that his spirit was defined by the joy and laughter he brought to everyone.

It may still be summer, but “awards season” is already here. The Venice Film Festival is just getting underway, and among its various offerings will be many 2025 movie schedule entries that are expected to compete for Oscars. The stars of those projects are arriving in Venice, too, and among them is one Adam Sandler, who looks a bit different than usual.

Sandler’s last appearance at the Oscars was as part of a comedy skit with host Conan O’Brien, where he wore basketball shorts among the tuxedos and evening gowns. To be fair, that’s the way the actor tends to dress a lot of the time, and it was the way he had been dressed when spotted earlier in Venice.

Then, however, things changed. Sandler later transformed, as he was seen in slacks and even a coat. It’s a bit unlike the Saturday Night Live legend, though it's also a bit more like what we’d expect from an actor at a major film festival.

So why is Adam Sandler going to the extreme of wearing pants? Well, the admittedly somewhat tongue-in-cheek reason suggested on social media by @JillianChili is that it’s all part of his Oscar campaign.

Sandler co-stars with George Clooney in the upcoming drama Jay Kelly, and the assumption is that the Happy Gilmore actor is “playing nice” in order to give himself the best chance at scoring an eventual nomination for Best Supporting Actor. Comments include…

Now, the real reason Sandler changed his outfit so drastically is unknown and potentially something much more mundane. However, fans are humorously suggesting that, after the pic in shorts got out, he got a call from Netflix, who told him that he wasn’t going to win an Oscar dressed like that. As @mi4d0lan put it…

Jay Kelly stars George Clooney as the titular character, a veteran actor who finds himself reflecting on his career. Sandler plays Kelly’s manager, who goes on a similar journey. Early buzz around the movie, and possible awards contention for both actors is strong, and Sandler may very well have that in mind as the promotional tour gets underway. If he has a shot, as @brmarotta noted, why not take it?

Back in 2019, Sandler starred in Uncut Gems, a movie where his performance was roundly praised, and many thought would garner an Oscar nomination. While Sandler won Best Actor awards from numerous critic organizations, he failed to get even a nomination at the Academy Awards. Based on comments Sandler made, he seemed to very much want the recognition, so maybe he really is doing what he can to curry favor, as @Iouisrabinowitz posted:

Critics will have the first say as to whether Adam Sandler has a real shot at an Oscar. Audiences will see Jay Kelly as part of a limited theatrical engagement in November, ahead of gaining access with a Netflix subscription in December.

Whether Adam Sandler has a real Oscar chance remains to be seen. However, I have to say, the slacks look good on him.

Not long after Adam Sandler was fired from SNL, he got a strange call from his manager. NBC wanted him to appear on Conan’s talk show during sweeps week. He was, not surprisingly, taken aback, given they’d, you know, just fired him, but instead of saying no, he impulsively decided it was his chance to get even.

During the mid-90s, Sandler was arguably the most famous and popular cast member on Saturday Night Live. Ratings, however, weren’t particularly great for the show, and some NBC executives felt it may have been because the sketch comedy staple had gotten too silly. So, in a decision that still feels shocking thirty years later, NBC ordered Lorne Michaels to let go of Sandler and his castmate Chris Farley.

Not long after is when NBC, hilariously, reached out to Sandler and asked him to appear on former SNL writer Conan O’Brien’s talk show. The comedian, who had just made Billy Madison and was about to become one of the biggest stars in Hollywood, impulsively told his manager he’d only show up if NBC bought him a fax machine. They did, and he reminisced about the hilarious story and why he was so hellbent on getting a fax machine during a subsequent appearance on Conan decades later…

I really wish someone from NBC was around to explain what happened when they were told of Sandler’s request. Someone was probably like he’s making a demand in order to appear, and when they found out it was a fax machine, they were probably so confused. I’m sure they just said yes quickly, given it was a lot less expensive than ridiculous requests I’m sure other stars have made over the years.

To me, this story is a good representation of why everyone likes Adam Sandler so much. He’s very human in a likeable and relatable way. If he had demanded an outrageous amount of money, I don’t think anyone would have blamed him, but it wouldn’t make him seem so good-hearted and funny. If he had simply been mad and quietly gone back without any demands, it would have made him seem like a selfless person but also a little weak and spineless.

There’s something about demanding a fax machine that just balances those two extremes perfectly. He comes off like a schemer with a decent heart, which is basically the embodiment of most of the characters he’s played.

It’s unclear if he got anything for the cameos and hosting spots he’s done on Saturday Night Live in the decades since he was let go, but fingers crossed he came away with something else that was emotionally satisfying and goofy.

Adam Sandler is one of the funniest comedic geniuses of our time–there’s no denying that. The Happy Gilmore actor has the repertoire and the reputation to prove it. Yes, a lot of them are silly, going for that unexpected yet predictable punchline joke. So, there's this perception that the Grown Ups actor is nothing more than a comedic actor. However, that couldn’t be farther from the truth, and it would seem that George Clooney agrees with me.

For those who don’t believe Sandler is more than a comedic actor, I challenge you to look at his entire movie catalog again. Each performance, even his comedy roles, signal the Big Daddy actor can go deeper, and he has on multiple occasions, including the upcoming Noah Baumbach picture, Jay Kelly.

In the upcoming Netflix film, Sandler supports George Clooney’s character, Jay Kelly, an older movie star actor who travels across Europe as he learns the reality of fame and success. The two became very close over the course of filming, and Clooney told Vanity Fair just how much he admires Sandler’s work, saying:

The two first met decades ago when Clooney hosted SNL, and they’ve been friends since. In a way, both parts seem written for them. The Ocean's Eleven actor mirrors the main character Jay Kelly to a T, while Sandler plays Kelly’s manager, who holds unconditional loyalty and love for his longtime client and friend. In my opinion, Sandler’s best movies are in the romance genre (50 First Dates is my favorite), so he knows how to sell love extremely well.

I do find it ironic, though, that Uncut Gems is the movie Clooney uses as an example to showcase the Billy Madison actor’s versatility. Uncut Gems is most commonly the one movie people reference when talking about the SNL alum’s foray into more serious roles. The critically acclaimed, suspenseful A24 film about a high roller gambling addict showed his ability to play a different kind of character, one that’s a lot less likable.

That movie came out in 2019, though, and Sandler, to Clooney’s point, has been a versatile actor for much longer than six years. I raise you one Punch Drunk Love, the Paul Thomas Anderson film that really was Sandler’s feature debut in a dramatic role, and if you haven’t seen it, I highly suggest you check it out.

In this film, Sandler plays a kind, lonely man looking for love, a task challenged by occasional angry outbursts. While this may seem like the plot to another somewhat goofy Sandler rom-com, there’s an element of suspense added when his character, Barry Egan, gets a call from an extortionist.

For a lot of people, this was likely the first time watching the Waterboy actor sans all the slapstick jokes, and after seeing Punch Drunk Love, there is no one else better to play that role. Previous Sandler collaborator and Spaceman director Johan Renck said that it's almost better when typically comedic actors excel in dramatic roles, because the audience is even more moved when they see a sort of rare vulnerability from the actor. And that's exactly what Sandler did in this movie, and his other dramatic films.

I tend to find that every Sandler role has heart, whether it’s comedic or not, but I definitely see Renck’s point. Needless to say, as an Adam Sandler fan, I always love seeing him reach outside his comfort zone. So I can’t wait until his team-up with Clooney when Jay Kelly hits the 2025 movie schedule on December 5.

It’s nearly impossible to keep up with all of the cameos and callbacks in Adam Sandler’s Happy Gilmore 2, which has remained in Netflix’s top movies since premiering on the 2025 movie calendar. The sequel even pays tribute to the actors we’ve lost since the 1996 film, including Bob Barker, after The Price Is Right host’s iconic fight scene. This time around, Jeopardy! — another of the best game shows of all time — was represented, and Ken Jennings opened up about his appearance.

Ken Jennings went on the Inside Jeopardy! podcast to discuss his appearance in the new Netflix movie, in which Happy Gilmore’s daughter, Vienna (played by Adam Sandler’s daughter Sunny), is watching Jeopardy! and sees a clue pop up about her dad, whose name no one can remember. As outlandish as most of the movie is, it seems the scenario that Adam Sandler’s character faced isn’t actually that uncommon. Jennings said:

Nobody wants to be a triple-stumper. (I mean, imagine how then-77-year-old Diana Ross felt when two contestants named her for the clue looking for a 95-year-old singer.)

Since Happy watched all of this play out on a screen, it means Adam Sandler was not actually present when the Jeopardy! scene was filmed on the Alex Trebek Stage. However, Happy Gilmore 2’s star and co-writer was still involved in the scene in a really cool way, as Ken Jennings revealed:

Ken Jennings may not have gotten to meet the Sandman, but hearing him on the phone shout out different jokes must have been a priceless experience for the Jeopardy! crew. Producer Sarah Foss further described the shoot, saying:

The clip is played pretty straight — it almost felt like it could have been lifted from a regular game of Jeopardy! — with none of three contestants being able to grasp the golfer's name:

The way Ken rejected all of those answers before informing the players, “He IS Jewish, but we were looking for Happy Gilmore,” made me laugh out loud, and with Adam Sandler being on the phone feeding them lines, I just KNOW there is a supercut somewhere of all the different responses they tried. Release the outtakes, I’m begging you!

Ken Jennings said that he must have watched the first Happy Gilmore movie a hundred times, and he “could not be more honored” to have been included in the sequel, even for just a “tiny cameo.” As a Jeopardy! fan, I was certainly delighted to see it.

Taylor Swift is no stranger to rumors. For decades, she’s been dealing with them, and while some can be aggressive and annoying, others are downright funny. Case in point, we just got her thoughts on one of the silliest ones, as she officially reacted to and denied the claims that she played the bear in Happy Gilmore 2.

After the long-awaited Happy Gilmore sequel premiered on Netflix’s 2025 schedule, fans and famous folk alike expressed their love for Travis Kelce’s cameo in it. Many, also hilariously started to wonder if the football player’s girlfriend played the bear that attacked his character, The Waiter, in Bad Bunny's character's dream about putting an end to his co-worker. So, when Swift appeared on the Kelce brothers’ podcast, New Heights, they asked her about this speculation, and she laughed and said:

I'd assume Taylor Swift is not a fan of all the rumors surrounding her relationship with Travis Kelce, and I'd imagine they can get annoying. However, some rumors are so absurd and silly that you can’t help but laugh at them. And I love that both the pop star and the Kansas City Chiefs' star got a real kick out of this one.

Now, while there was a credited bear performer in Happy Gilmore 2, I do see the logic behind people thinking it could have been Taylor Swift. Adam Sandler is a certified Swiftie, and the "So High School" singer's boyfriend was in the movie. It wouldn’t be totally out of the realm of possibility for her to make a cameo in it.

However, the odds of that being true were low, and now Swift herself has debunked them, too. That didn’t stop her from being entertained by the rumors, though, as she said:

When Happy Gilmore 2 came out, Swift did post on her Instagram story about her love for the movie, so I’m not shocked that she was entertained by the discourse surrounding the possibility of her playing the bear.

I'm also not surprised that she gave the actual Bear Performer, whose name is Brandon Alan Smith, his flowers too, by saying:

She also gave Travis Kelce’s other scene partner, Bad Bunny, his flowers as well.

Many have been praising Bad Bunny’s Happy Gilmore 2 performance as Oscar, the busboy-turned-caddy, myself included; however, it hits different coming from Taylor Swift. She clearly cared so much about both his and Kelce’s performances in the movie and was obviously entertained by them, which is so sweet to see.

Well, now, if you go back and watch Happy Gilmore 2 with a Netflix subscription, you can’t think with certainty that that bear was Taylor Swift. However, you can let the scene remind you of the rumors and her delightedly debunking them, which, honestly, might be better than if that bear was actually her.
