For nearly two decades, fans of Eli Roth have been eagerly anticipating his latest horror movie venture, the holiday-centric slasher Thanksgiving. The excitement dates back to its playful tease as a fake trailer in Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino’s Grindhouse. Now that the film is finally here, early critical reception for Roth's latest has been generally positive. However, he openly acknowledged a genuine concern about production, mainly the casting of TikTok star Addison Rae. Roth specifically reflected upon a conversation he had with the media personality early on, during which he expressed a hesitation.

Eli Roth told The Hollywood Reporter that the online influencer-turned-successful He’s All That cast member approached him about joining his long-rumored Thanksgiving-themed slasher. And though he says he was open to the idea of casting Addison Rae, he was also very blunt with the online star. In his words:

One can definitely understand the concern. In the past, there have been many instances in which a famed person -- like an athlete or socialite -- has been tapped for a film merely to generate buzz. It's clear that, in this case, the Hostel director didn't want to cast the social media maven to drum up publicity but would only tap her if she had the chops. 

Thankfully, the initial concerns about stunt casting quickly dissipated as he witnessed the young star's commitment to proving herself in acting. As he explained to the trade, it also helped that he paired with some incredible on-screen partners, with Nell Verlaque, being one of them. He continued:

The movie takes an unexpected turn, deviating from its 2007 faux trailer roots. The once light-hearted tone has transformed into a sharp satire, delving into dark humor and even darker kills. Centered around the holiday institution of Black Friday, the film unfolds in Plymouth, Massachusetts, with a group of teenagers (Addison Rae, Milo Manheim, Jalen Thomas Brooks, and Nell Verlaque) finding themselves in the midst of a Thanksgiving gore fest. The enigmatic figure, John Carver, has a score to settle that's linked to a local big-box store, and it leads to an opening set-piece that redefines "doorbuster" and, inevitably, leaves a trail of corpses in its wake.

In CinemaBlend's Thanksgiving review, Mike Reyes gives the film a solid 4 out of 5 stars, emphasizing its worthiness after the anticipation. Reyes highlights the movie's successful blend of intense carnage and genuinely funny moments, a sentiment I wholeheartedly share. I enjoyed the film so much that I'm considering another trip to the cinemas to indulge in a second helping of holiday horror. And yes, Addison Rae does indeed deliver as well, and this could prove to be huge for her from a professional standpoint.

This Eli Roth project has been over a decade in the making. The premise behind the upcoming slasher film Thanksgiving was first introduced as a fake trailer in the 2007 film Grindhouse, and is actually the third from the Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino movie to be adapted into a feature-length film (following Machete and Hobo with a Shotgun). Critics have seen the upcoming horror movie, which stars TikTok star Addison Rae alongside Grey’s Anatomy alum Patrick Dempsey, and they are all talking about the gore factor.

The gruesome first trailer for Thanksgiving shows the residents of Plymouth, Massachusetts, being terrorized by a serial killer called John Carver a year after a Black Friday riot that ended in several deaths. With this slasher sharing the same head of makeup and effects as The Boys’ bloody spinoff Gen V in Colin Penman, I’d say things are likely to get pretty sloppy this holiday. But let’s see what the critics are saying. In CinemaBlend’s review of Thanksgiving, Mike Reyes rates the film 4 out of 5 stars, saying this was a movie worth waiting for, with its carnage being balanced by some seriously funny moments. He continues:   

James Mottram of GamesRadar also gives Thanksgiving 4 stars out of 5, noting that Eli Roth hasn’t had this much fun in years, blending over-the-top gore with satire on consumerism for a sick and twisted final product. Mottram writes: 

Charlie Ridgely of ComicBook.com says Eli Roth’s trademark gore is put to good use, creating a modern and thoroughly entertaining movie with plenty of Grindhouse spirit. Ridgely rates Thanksgiving 4 out of 5, and says: 

Emma Kiely of Collider grades the holiday horror a B+, calling it a “gory blast” despite a pretty basic script and predictable twist. It delivers on its promise of creative kills, and if recent slashers have been too mild for you, Thanksgiving should satisfy that hunger. Kiely writes:  

Frank Scheck of THR says Eli Roth comes through with just enough “cheap kills” for his bloodthirsty audiences. The deaths are quite imaginative, Scheck writes, including a knifed cheerleader and the impaling of a parade driver. The critic continues:  

It sounds like those who are familiar with Eli Roth’s work are going to get what they came for in the gore department, when Thanksgiving hits the big screen. After waiting over a decade for this concept to be developed, the time has almost come, and fans can start their holiday feasting at the theater on Friday, November 17. I love that last comment so much. Kourtney Kardashian has been confidently and excitedly posting about her pregnancy journey ever since she and her hubby Travis Barker announced the news of their baby. The news about The Kardashian star’s first baby with the Blink-182 drummer was announced on June 17. Since then, all her posts about the process and how excited she is to welcome this baby into the world have been wonderful.

In the end, Kourtney Kardashian’s latest bikini post is a perfect peek into her pregancy, and it's a wonderful Barbiecore moment. With Barbie scheduled for a July 21 release, and considering The Kardashians is in the midst of their season on the 2023 TV schedule, this was such a fun summery moment to witness. At long last, Eli Roth's Thanksgiving is actually happening. It was all the way back in 2008 that Roth's idea for a Turkey Day-centric slasher film was previewed as a fake trailer in Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino's Grindhouse, and 15 years later, the movie is now just months away from hitting theaters. It's been a long journey for the project to get to this point, and it looks like the stars and filmmakers, including Addison Rae, are having a whole lot of fun together making it.

Rae, who made her feature acting debut in 2021 with the romantic comedy He's All That, has posted photos and a video on Instagram of some off-set fun she has been having with Eli Roth and co-stars Milo Manheim, Tomaso Sanelli, Nell Verlaque, and Patrick Dempsey. It was all the way back in 2010 when Eli Roth and co-writer Jeff Rendell first started getting serious about making a real feature based on their fake Thanksgiving trailer, and though it took nearly a decade-and-a-half to get cameras rolling, principal photography began last month in Ontario, Canada. It was just shortly before the start of production that Addison Rae was added to the cast (Patrick Dempsey had already been attached at that point). In addition to Rae, Dempsey, Milo Manheim, Tomaso Sanelli, and Nell Verlaque, the gory slasher film will also star Jalen Thomas Brooks, Tim Dillon, Rick Hoffman and Gina Gershon.

Thanksgiving will be the second fake trailer from Grindhouse that actually ended up being produced as a real movie – the first being Robert Rodriguez's Machete (which even spawned a sequel: Machete Kills). Fans will remember that the other previews "attached" to the Robert Rodriguez-Quentin Tarantino double feature were Edgar Wright's Don't and Rob Zombie's Werewolf Women Of The S.S.

A loving parody of horror-centric holiday movies from the 1970s and 1980s like Halloween, April Fools Day, My Bloody Valentine and Black Christmas, Thanksgiving is set in the town of Plymouth, Massachusetts and will see a celebration of the titular holiday turn into a nightmare as a killer dressed as a pilgrim starts kidnapping and butchering people.

They may have been there to celebrate musical achievements, but the celebrity couples who walked the red carpet at the 64th annual Grammy Awards on Sunday night made sure their love lives were on full display in Las Vegas. Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker are already known for their PDA, but others also jumped on board with the smoosh-faced trend, as Justin and Hailey Bieber and Addison Rae and Omer Fedi also got in on the tongue-on-tongue action. 

There were plenty of notable moments during the Trevor Noah-hosted ceremony, including BTS’ secret-agent performance of “Butter,” Olivia Rodrigo being named Best New Artist, and a tribute to Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins, but before the awards were announced, the celebrities were showing their love with full-blown makeout sessions on the red carpet. Kourtney Kardashian And Travis Barker

No surprises here. The Blink 182 drummer and his reality TV star fiancée often seem to be joined at the mouth, and the 2022 Grammy Awards were no different. They did separate long enough for Travis Barker to give an epic performance with H.E.R. and Lenny Kravitz. Kardashian and Barker displayed similar shows of affection at last week’s Academy Awards, and we’re about to get an even more intimate look at the couple’s evolving relationship, as a preview for The Kardashians on Hulu showed the entertainers were/are trying to have a baby together.

Addison Rae And Omer Fedi

Making their red carpet debut as a couple were Addison Rae and producer boyfriend Omer Fedi, with the latter nominated for Record of the Year, Song of the Year and Album of the Year for his work on Lil Nas X's Montero album. He may not have taken home any awards, but Fedi and the He’s All That star took some lessons from Rae’s BFF Kourtney Kardashian on naughty carpet behavior. While this may be the first time they rocked the pre-awards cycle together, the couple has been linked since August 2021, often making appearances together on social media (of course). 

Justin Bieber And Hailey Bieber

Even the Biebers were getting in on the PDA. After recently suffering a health scare in which she was hospitalized with stroke-like symptoms, Hailey Bieber was — as per usual — by her husband’s side. This looked like a much more enjoyable red carpet appearance than last year's Met Gala, during which Justin Bieber comforted his wife as a crowd nastily chanted his ex-girlfriend's name "Selena" when the couple walked past. On Sunday night, The Biebs performed his hit "Peaches," and was up for eight awards at the ceremony. He also may not have won any awards, but would it be too cheesy to say he still took home a prize at the end of the night?

PDA is in, y’all, and regardless of our opinions on having to see so many tongues and tonsils, it was good to see so much love in the air as the celebrities walked the red carpet to celebrate music’s biggest night. Keeping tabs on who is following whom on which social media platforms can be exhausting, albeit occasionally intriguing. Such was the case when this week I learned that popular TikTok star Charli D’ Amelio had reportedly stopped following Addison Rae on Instagram. Why is this a big deal? Well the two wildly popular social media stars basically came up together in the industry. 

Initially, both Charli D’ Amelio and Addison Rae came up on social media through The Hype House, a collective based out of Los Angeles that helps personalities make a name for themselves. D’Amelio, her sister Dixie and Rae have all since seemingly left the collective, but seemingly got along fine. That is, until Charli deleted Addision from her Instagram followers. 

Obviously, this got the speculation mill rolling. Charli D’Amelio is the #1 personality on TikTok, but Addison Rae is not far behind at #3. (She actually used to be in second place, but Khaby Lame has since taken over that spot.) Did they have beef? Do they no longer like one another? Are there problems there?

The good news? This doesn’t seem to be a feud in the making, despite the Internet chatter about possible drama between the two popular social stars. In since-deleted posts, Amelio herself came out to clarify the situation and says that she has no problem with Addison Rae. What she allegedly did have a problem with was her Instagram account. 

In a post that was captured via screenshot The D’Amelio Show star reportedly said that her account was  simply being problematic. While that didn’t stop the chatter, she did allegedly say “I follow so many account[s] it backs it up,” also noting: 

She went on to explain in posts captured by YouTube persona DefNoodles that she will continue making changes in the coming weeks. Really unfollowing a competitor would be off-brand for the social media star, particularly given how she’s spoken out in the past about hating how competitive the job has gotten. In addition, seemingly corroborating these posts is Charli D’Amelio’s Instagram account itself, which currently only boasts 10 posts and 106 followers. Bad news for Addison Rae; it’s true, she didn’t make the cut. It looks like Paris Hilton did though! That’s hot. (Sorry.) 

Meanwhile Addison Rae’s been been busy hanging out with her pal Kourtney Kardashian and even hawking some items for Black Friday, so she doesn’t seem to be sweating this at all. It’s also worth noting that at the time of this writing, she still follows her former work pal (and also follows Paris Hilton, but I digress) on Instagram, which also lends credence to there being no beef between the two ladies. 

While Addison’s been rocking out with a fragrance line and the aforementioned activities, Charli recently learned The D’Amelio Show would be getting a second season on Hulu, so it sounds like good news all around this holiday season for both ladies. That is, unless a rival manages to pick up some TikTok steam. I’m just sayin’.

Despite their more than 20-year age difference, reality star Kourtney Kardashian and TikTok star Addison Rae have become exceptionally close. They work out together, cross-promote their work, and even have sleepovers. But when asked recently if her fave BFF and Scott Disick are the ones "destined to be together," now that he's reportedly single again, Addison Rae had an extremely blunt response, which I think I might just agree with.

Of course, we have none other than Andy Cohen to thank for pulling the tea out of Addison Rae. (He makes it an art form with the Real Housewives ladies.) On Watch What Happens Live, Cohen quickly slipped in the age-old question, “Do you think Kourtney and Scott are destined to be together?” To which Rae gave a somewhat aggressive “No.” Cohen would later question whether the TikTok star-turned-actress was surprised by Scott Disick’s recent snafu with one of Kourtney Kardashian's exes. But this time, Addison Rae only laughed it off and said it was “not my question to answer.”

Addison Rae is in the clear for Girl Code. But the question about Scott Disick and Kourtney Kardashian's potential romantic relationship remains. While they both have moved on with other people, they share three kids together. Not to mention, it was evident that Disick and Kardashian still had some lingering chemistry on the final season of Keeping Up with the Kardashians.

Likely, Addison Rae's definitive “no” on Kourtney Kardashian and Scott Disick is because of the currently unspooling DM drama. Disick allegedly messaged Kardashian’s ex, Younes Bendjima, with some criticisms of their former flame. It has many believing that he is still in love with her, which is supposedly what led to Disick’s 20-year-old girlfriend, Amelia Hamlin, breaking up with him. Still, it's reportedly neither here nor there to Kourtney Kardashian, who is busy macking it up with boyfriend Travis Barker.

Amidst all the he-said she-said, at least Kourtney Kardashian still has best friend Addison Rae to back her up. Kardashian recently even had a cameo appearance in Addison Rae’s new Netflix film, He's All That. It’s the least Rae could do since Kardashian, in fact, brought her on board for the final Keeping Up with the Kardashians season. On WWHL, Addison Rae shared the extent of her fandom for the long-running E! series:

So how did Addison Rae manage to parlay reading about the Kardashians as a child to practically speaking on their behalf on Bravo? Well, she once again thanks her TikTok dancing videos, which is what initially catapulted her into fame and notoriety. Kourtney Kardashian's now-11-year-old son Mason was a fan, and his mom made a meet-up happen for a birthday party. That eventually led to the two “working out all the time together.”

Remakes are rampant in Hollywood and classic romantic comedies are apparently no exception. Netflix has reimagined the 1999 favorite She’s All That with a modern spin on it. This time it’s the guy getting the makeover and staying as the most popular girl at school means maintaining one’s social following. He’s All That has hit the streaming service and quickly soared to the top of Netflix’s charts. But what did movie fans think?

As you’d probably expect with a Netflix rom-com anyway, critics did not like He’s All That… at all. The reviews were overwhelmingly negative, including my own 2 out of 5 rating on CinemaBlend. But hey, just because a movie is not good on paper, that doesn’t mean it won’t be enjoyable to fans. Right? He’s All That entertained tons of people, many of whom didn’t use their thumbs to write about it, but first let’s get to the central public opinions guiding what people think about the Netflix release.

He’s All That Is Not All That To A Lot Of Viewers

Many times when we round up fan opinions about movies, there can be a great divide between the fans and critics, but much like reviewers, there’s unfortunately a lot of hate being thrown at He’s All That. Movie fans are taking to social media to share their distaste for the remake of the beloved ‘90s classic.

People are taking to Twitter to share their negative experience with the movie, calling the acting especially “bad.” The movie features the acting debut of TikTok star Addison Rae, who has a passion for movies and took classes ahead of starring in the Netflix film. But you know, good acting doesn’t always need to carry a movie, it’s all about engaging story and great direction too. Movie fans were not seeing it in He’s All That.

Unfortunately, many fans chose violence over social media to describe their experience watching He’s All That. I don’t think anyone particularly expects their minds to be blown when checking out a Netflix rom-com, but this one straight up offended people’s time by some of these comments.

Don’t worry, we’ll get to some more positive commentary in a bit, but let’s end with a bit of a bang in one commenter, who makes a bold claim about He’s All That:

Fans Are Crushing Over The He’s All That Cast

Some people understood why they were there and we’re perfectly content with the movie in front of them thanks to the cast. Tanner Buchanan is quickly becoming a heartthrob among, some comparing the actor to a young Leonardo DiCaprio or Val Kilmer. Buchanan is well-known for playing Robby Keene on Cobra Kai, but he really has a chance to shine as a rom-com lead here.

Sometimes picking the Netflix film of the night is to simply look respectfully at the cast and for many that person was Tanner Buchanan. The 22-year-old steals the show as Cameron, a high school outcast who Addison Rae’s Padgett decides to makeover thanks to a bet.

Hey, but Tanner Buchanan wasn’t the only internet fave fans were talking about. Audiences also really gravitated toward newcomer Myra Molloy, who also had her movie debut with He’s All That as well. The 23-year-old is actually a Thai-American singer who won the first season of Thailand’s Got Talent and has toured as part of the Miss Saigon cast.

Expect big things from these two He’s All That stars! Myra Molloy plays one of Padgett’s friends, who finds a bit of romance herself in the movie. The beauty of movies like this is finding talents like Molloy at the start of their Hollywood careers:

He’s All That has a killer young cast, but we gotta talk about the return of some of the actors from She’s All That.

Fans Were Here For The She’s All That Cameos

A lot of people tuned into He’s All That to see Rachael Leigh Cook and Matthew Lillard, as teased in the trailer. Rather than the actors reprising their roles, they play new and sparing characters in the rom-com. Matthew Lillard of course was Brock Hudson in the original, who famously danced to “Give It To Me Baby” back in 1999. Fans really loved seeing him back and showing off more moves for He’s All That:

And She’s All That’s Laney Boggs also returned in the form of Rachael Leigh Cook playing Padgett’s mom. Fans most certainly noticed despite her and Lillard only showing up in He’s All That for only a few minutes.

It’s also fair to say the return of the stars from She’s All That was many fans favorite part of the remake. Some wish there were a lot more of them and less of the new generation.

Finally, let’s get to the true fans of He’s All That. They found themselves in the vocal minority, but it goes to show that despite criticisms, the very popular Netflix film is popular for a reason.

Fans Of He's All That It Had Its Cute Moments

This sector of people found themselves a bit defensive because so many people were hating on it. One user shared that it’s “not that bad” and “kinda good.”

Some fans totally bought into Addison Rae and Tanner Buchanan’s romance that plays into the opposites attract idea. Each character teaches the other about their points of view, creating some major romantic tension between the two.

Who’s all that? Twenty-two years ago, it was “she” in Rachael Leigh Cook’s Laney Boggs after Freddie Prinze Jr’s Zack Silar takes a dumb high school bet and ends up falling for an unexpected classmate. And these days, it’s “he,” Tanner Buchanan’s Cameron after meeting Addison Rae’s Padgett and her viral sensibilities and finding balance between obsessing over the like button and enjoying their young lives. Between the decades the coming of age experience may have changed, but there’s a lot of familiarity here between the two movies She’s All That and Netflix hit, He’s All That.

He’s All That brings a new twist on the 1999 classic, but it also brings some fun nostalgia and callbacks to the original movie too. Let’s break down all the times it references She’s All That:

Rachael Leigh Cook As Padgett’s Mom

First off, Laney Boggs from She’s All That is totally in He’s All That… kind of. The actress who played the leading character in the original movie, Rachael Leigh Cook, plays the mother of Addison Rae’s Padgett throughout the movie. Her character is named Anna Sawyer and she’s a hard-working nurse who is just watching out for her daughter and trying to be there for her as she goes viral in the wrong way.

Cook’s character seems to be mirroring the role that Kevin Pollak played for Laney Boggs during She’s All That. He was also a single parent, who comes to support Laney when Zack comes into her life and shifts her perspective on life. It’s great to see this wink, wink.

There’s An Eventful Pool Party Scene

In He’s All That, Padgett and Cameron really start to bond at a pool party when she runs into her ex and begins to flub up her performance of “Teenage Dream” in front of a judgey crowd. Cameron comes to her rescue when he jumps up with her and duets with her, calming her nerves and solidifying a genuine connection between the two of them early in the film.

There being a pool party scene seems to also be a reference to She’s All That, because early in that film we learn that Zack’s popular girlfriend, Jodi Lyn O’Keefe’s Taylor, meets the boyfriend she brutally leaves him from at a pool party as well. That new man is Matthew Lillard’s Brock Hudson, the self absorbed actor, who is really into the fact that he is on The Real World.

“Kiss Me” Being Part Of The Soundtrack

Perhaps the most iconic moment to come from She’s All That, also recently mentioned by Matthew Lillard when CinemaBlend spoke to the actor about the classic is the “Kiss Me” sequence, that has Laney Boggs getting her epic makeover as the Sixpence None The Richer song plays in the background. The song was made famous by the 1999 movie and has since become a greatest hit of a track that has rom-com fans all dreamy and head over heels.

In He’s All That, “Kiss Me” is once again included, because of course it had to be. But this time, singer Cyn covered it to modernize it for 2021.

Addison Rae Wearing A Red Dress After The Makeover

Speaking of that “Kiss Me” scene, there’s another moment from the original movie He’s All That references. During that moment, Laney Boggs slips on a red dress that really has her lighting up the room. It’s the dress she ends up debuting to a high school party that gets heads turning, including Zack’s ex Taylor – in jealousy.

One of the most cutting scenes in She’s All That is when the late Paul Walker’s Dean Sampson tells her that she has been a bet this whole time. It leads Laney to get upset and hurt, and yell out to Zack “Am I a fucking bet?” It’s a great line, especially since it’s the choice f-bomb in the PG-13 movie.

In He’s All That, the movie continues the tradition with the scene when Cameron learns that Padgett has been playing him too. He beautifully delivers the same lines, which produces just about the same effect as the original did.

Matthew Lillard Breaking Down On The Dance Floor

Aside from Rachael Leigh Cook finding a place in He’s All That, so does her original castmate Matthew Lillard. Lillard played Brock Hudson in the original and he appears in the Netflix version, also as a different character. He is the school principal, who has a couple scenes during the prom, subtly adding his dance moves to the movie.

Lillard dancing is perfect because Brock had an iconic dance sequence in She’s All That. In the original movie, his character dances to “Give It To Me Baby” as high schoolers are unimpressed with his overconfidence.

The Choreographed Dance Off During Prom

Toward the end of He’s All That, there’s a tribute to more dancing from She’s All That. Addison Rae famously gained a following thanks to her TikTok dances on the social media app and during a prom ‘dance off,’ she struts her stuff. It’s actually a quite clever reference to the 1999 classic because there’s a bit of an odd dance off in that movie too, also quite choreographed and random.

He’s All That has arrived to Netflix, and it pairs two up-and-coming stars Addison Rae and Tanner Buchanan as high schoolers with different ideas about plugging into social media. Rae’s Padgett is all about followers and updating them on her daily world, whereas Buchanan’s Cameron actively avoids the internet world by looking behind a film camera for inspiration. Amidst playing these roles, both leads have been grappling with going viral in their own ways.

CinemaBlend spoke to He’s All That stars Addison Rae and Tanner Buchanan during the Netflix film’s virtual press junket. Each of them have some recent breakthroughs into huge internet followings, and last year’s sitting around due to COVID-19 mandates has a lot to do with how they found their rising popularity. As Buchanan shared:

Cobra Kai became huge last summer when Seasons 1 and 2 hit Netflix for the first time, leading a ton of people to experience the nostalgic Karate Kid spinoff for the first time. It was an odd experience for Tanner Buchanan because he’d been making the show for years, with the show’s first home being on YouTube Premium. All of a sudden, it was as if Cobra Kai was airing for the first time in 2020, and the 22-year-old actor’s life changed a lot that day.

As Tanner Buchanan shared, his following increased by a lot just overnight amidst him spending a lot more time at home and not fully getting the chance to grasp the change with not much more than a growing number online. His co-star Addison Rae found herself sharing a similar journey, though her viral story had everything to do with becoming a famous TikToker, on a much larger scale social media-wise, considering she is the third most-followed user on the popular app. In her words to CinemaBlend:

Addison Rae currently has 82.9 million followers, after starting on the app in summer of 2019 by uploading dance videos to the social media app. She joined the TikTok collaborative group “Hype House” in late 2019 and grew even further from there, reaching peak attention and being named the highest-earning TikToker by Forbes in summer of 2020. She is 20 years old.

Their film together He’s All That reimagines the classic 1999 movie She’s All That and speaks to their generation, who are dealing with the influence of social media in their daily lives as well. You can check it out right now on Netflix, along with tons more August streaming releases.

This past year, TikTok culture has swept teen culture in a massive and defining way. Because of this, it’s not at all surprising that it would someday inevitably clash with a coming-of-age movie. Mark Waters' He’s All That is the product of a particular time we’re living in, where being viral and simultaneously a high school student can absolutely happen and does. And sure, it’s relevant and maybe relatable to that audience, but watching teens stare at their phones and talk about how many followers they have is rarely entertaining – and this is no exception, especially when this Netflix release does so to update a ‘90s classic as endearing as She’s All That.

He’s All That stars one of TikTok’s biggest names, Addison Rae, who plays a high school adjacent version of herself: a teen influencer named Padgett who has a lot of eyes on her all the time. But when Padgett publicly goes ballistic in front of her followers after catching her now also-famous boyfriend (Peyton Meyer) cheating on her, she must wrestle with not being on top of the internet’s list. In true She’s All That fashion, she decides to take a bet to turn one of the student body’s biggest outcasts, Tanner Buchanan’s Cameron, into a viral sensation to get back on the “like” column.

The twist on She’s All That is a forced, predictable and lazy remake of a ‘90s classic.

The most hilarious part about He’s All That is the twist being placed on the She’s All That story that is a stretch to believe and get behind. This isn't to say that Laney Boggs taking off her glasses and slipping into a red dress in the original was exactly a jaw-dropping premise, but in the 1999 version it was backed by a story of opening up to someone and getting past her fears. For He’s All That, Addison Rae is working with a ‘project’ who is already classically attractive and kind of cool. There’s barely a point to any of it. All Tanner Buchanan’s version of Laney needs is to put his beanie in the wash and get a haircut and he’s pretty much viral ready.

Now, there are some nuggets in He’s All That about the relationship between social media and today’s teens that hit, but overall it lacks effectiveness due to its lack of inspiration. The Netflix movie very much goes for a lazy made-for-TV mindset with this remake, and it’s flat out draining to watch. There are a lot of missed opportunities throughout, some of which we might not blink twice at if the movie wasn’t already rehashing a '90s classic that did it way better (even in the shadow of the 1999 movie having its own clichés).

Tanner Buchanan manages to stand out and bring some spark to He’s All That.

Despite the Cobra Kai actor having a dumb story arc to work with, Tanner Buchanan does carry this film gracefully and adds some magic between him and Addison Rae’s budding love story. Cameron is a film camera enthusiast who challenges Padgett to live in the moment and see more in her life than followers and views. Believe me, it’s still super lame, but Buchanan shows he’s a solid actor beyond his TV show roots and provides some decent moments out of Rae too, who is otherwise a novice in the acting department.

Another kicker about He’s All That is how surface level its characters are and how blurred the lines are between its actors and who they are playing. For example, Buchanan has a full-on Cobra Kai moment midway through the movie despite there being absolutely zero setup for the actor being interested in the martial arts. It takes the audience completely out of it and feels like Netflix is telling you, "Don’t forget it’s the Cobra Kai guy!" Rae and Buchanan also sing a song together and there’s a ‘dance off’ likely purely because she is known for posting her moves on TikTok. There’s just so much here that’s incoherent and out of place here that makes He’s All That feel like a lab experiment by a studio more than a movie.

How dare He’s All That waste Rachael Leigh Cook and Matthew Lillard’s time.

The worst offense of He’s All That is its sore attempt to bring nostalgia from the first movie into this one that is barely worthy of being connected to She’s All That. Both Rachael Leigh Cook and Matthew Lillard make appearances, but they are careless cameos that don’t add anything to He’s All That other than it just being kind of nice to see these talents in general. There’s barely a connection to the original with their involvement and genuinely feels wasteful of their time and the legacy of She’s All That.

Lillard brings some fun energy to the new movie's prom scene, but overall He’s All That did not deserve it’s original actors' involvement. The Netflix release does have its cute moments if you’re looking for a rather vanilla romantic comedy to check out, but overall it’s a better opportunity to at least school its audience on appreciating She’s All That instead.

In He’s All That, a teenage girl named Padgett is humiliated by her boyfriend and then sets out to avenge herself by giving a classmate the ultimate high school makeover. Directed by Mark Waters, the rom com stars TikTok star Addison Rae, Tanner Buchanan, Madison Pettis, Peyton Meyer, and Isabella Crovetti.

The trailer had fans at odds, so we’ll have to see what everyone thinks after watching the film. He’s All That is available on Netflix now, so you can check it out yourself. Critics have started to share their reviews of the romcom, so let’s check them out.

Let’s start with the home team. CinemaBlend’s Sarah El-Mahmoud was pretty disappointed with He’s All That, rating it 2 out of 5 stars. She argued that the twist in the film of Padgett giving her classmate Cameron a makeover doesn’t even make any sense because he’s already attractive and kind of cool, so there’s no point. She thought Buchanan, who plays Cameron, carried the film and demonstrated that he’s a solid actor, but she thought the short cameos of Rachael Leigh Cook and Matthew Lillard (from She’s All That) was more a waste of their time and a disgrace to the legacy of the original film. El-Mahmoud said:

Robyn Bahr from The Hollywood Reporter, a fan of the original film, enjoyed He’s All That. She considers it as much “silly fun” as its predecessor. Bahr commended many aspects of the romantic comedy, from the pacing to the “cute” chemistry between Rae and Buchanan. She especially praised Buchanan’s performance, stating that he reminded her of a young Val Kilmer. Overall, she said:

Mary Sollosi from Entertainment Weekly did not have many positive things to say about the comedy, noting that it doesn’t live up to the original. She thought that the new film’s biggest mistake was casting TikTok star Rae in the guru role, and that there was no actual emotional arc or growth of her character Padgett. Sollosi also criticized the production and wardrobe of the movie, and said overall:

Sonia Rao from The Washington Post also criticized Rae’s acting in He’s All That. She thought Rae didn’t offer much to viewers, with no vocal inflection or facial expressions that would give more depth to Padgett. While Rao did note that Buchanan tried his best with what he was given in the script, she overall thought the film was a flop, saying:

The acting in the rom com is again criticized in Adam Graham’s review for The Detroit News. Graham noted that it’s a good thing that He’s All That doesn’t ask much of Addison Rae, because “she isn’t much of an actress.” He was disappointed that the movie could have addressed societal issues, like the “emptiness of social media,” but completely side stepped taking any real stand. Graham said:

Ryan Lattanzio from IndieWire thinks that the remake lacks the charm of the original, and had many criticisms in his review. He commented that there were many soulless aspects in the movie, from Padgett’s lack of character development to the cinematography, which he thought looked like it was rigged with ring lights. Lattanzio also noted that the film missed its opportunity to take a stand on societal issues, like we’ve seen in other critics’ reviews. Overall, he said:

Well, that was... bleak. It seems that most critics don't think He's All That is all that. But you can form your own opinion today, as the rom com is available on Netflix now.

It’s true that He’s All That is almost guaranteed to be trending on Netflix come late August because of its big stars and name recognition. Jameela Jamil, who is starring in the upcoming She-Hulk TV show, called it “objectively terrible,” but she predicts it will still be a big hit.

It’s full of nostalgia for the original movie and some modern updates that will certainly keep us guessing when the Netflix film drops later this month.

The He’s All That trailer starts with Addison Rae filming a live social media video with her friends that has her character, Padgett Sawyer, getting ready to surprise her boyfriend on the set of his latest music video. To her surprise, she ends up streaming herself finding out she’s being cheated on, leading to her creating a very public scene that goes viral.

It looks like her mom will be played by none other than Laney from She’s All That, Rachael Leigh Cook, who consoles her about the breakup. One of her friends, played by Madison Pettis from The Game Plan, then dares Rae’s character to achieve a makeover on another man after doing so to her ex boyfriend. They make the bet and choose Tanner Buchanen’s Cameron Kweller, who is described as a “disaster,” “weird” and “antisocial” by Padgett.

She gives him a swanky makeover, amidst a Kourtney Kardashian cameo, but in between then, Padgett and Cameron seem to find an unlikely connection despite being opposites on the high school food chain. He’s All That looks like a super fun bubblegum teen romantic comedy complete with Buchanen putting his Cobra Kai moves on display, Addison Rae showing off her TikTok dance moves during prom and a few cool She’s All That nods.

The song in the background of the He’s All That trailer is “Kiss Me” originally by Sixpence None the Richer and it served as the theme song to the 1999 movie at the time. She's All That helped give the song its mainstream popularity and now it’s interwoven into the He’s All That trailer. Also, Matthew Lillard, who played Brock Hudson, the new man of Zack’s girlfriend in the original movie, is in He’s All That dancing during the prom sequence. Looks like there could be a ton of fun callbacks for fans of the 1999 classic!

He’s All That is coming to Netflix on August 27 along with a number of exciting releases this month.

It would be an understatement to say that Addison Rae has experienced a serious come up in the past few years. Following an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, she received backlash after performing dances originated by other TikTokers. Rae’s aforementioned bestie, Kourtney Kardashian, is also reportedly set to cameo in the film.

The original She’s All That is a film that’s incredibly close to Addison Rae, as it was a movie her mother loved and recommended she watch. With this, it appears Rae took her first starring role very seriously. The TikToker-turned-actress previously explained that she took acting classes seven days a week in order to prepare for the movie, in addition to hours of daily “script analysis.” Rae also revealed on a separate occasion that she tried a bit of method acting by having her friends and family call her “Padgett” on and off set.

While the emphasis will obviously be on the star’s acting chops, one can’t help but wonder if the producers allowed Addison Rae to put her dance skills to use for the role as well. It wouldn’t be at all surprising if she shows off her moves at some point during the movie. There is going to be a prom, after all.

He’s All That Premieres On Netflix In August

According to Deadline, Netflix paid over 20 million dollars for the rights to stream He’s All That. The movie will premiere on Netflix, as part of its summer offerings, on August 27, 2021. Filming on He’s All That began in November 2020 and concluded in December 2020, giving the film a fairly quick turnaround from filming to streaming.

Netflix has a really exciting summer lineup already, with the premiere of the Fear Street trilogy, the conclusion of the Kissing Booth saga and a bunch of other fun Summer 2021 Netflix movies. The addition of He’s All That just makes Netflix’s summer film series even more fun.

The He’s All That Cast Includes A Kardashian and Addison Rae

Addison Rae headlines the movie as Padgett Sawyer. This will be her film debut. Tanner Buchanan will star alongside her as Cameron Kweller. Buchanan is best known for his roles on The Fosters, Designated Survivor, Girl Meets World, and, of course, Cobra Kai. The He’s All That cast also includes Peyton Meyer, Isabella Crovetti, Annie Jacob, Myra Molloy, and Madison Pettis.

Madison Pettis may be one of the most recognizable faces from the teen supporting cast list, as she appeared on Cory in the House, The Game Plan, American Pie Presents Girls’ Rules, Lab Rats, and The Fosters. Girl Meets World fans may also recognize Peyton Meyer’s name because he played Lucas Friar on the series’ three-season run. He’s also appeared on American Housewife and Dog with a Blog.

Addison Rae won’t be the only person making her film debut in He’s All That, Kourtney Kardashian will have a cameo in the film. Kourtney and Addison Rae have developed a close relationship since 2020. Therefore, it makes complete sense that they would have their film debuts together.

He’s All That Includes Some of The Original She’s All That Cast And Crew

He’s All That will feature some familiar faces. Rachael Leigh Cook, who was one of the main characters of the original She’s All That movie, will appear in this one. However, she won’t be reprising her role as Laney Boggs, instead, she’ll be playing Addison Rae’s character’s mom, Mrs. Sawyer. Deadline also mentioned Matthew Lillard’s name when revealing the He’s All That Netflix deal. Lillard also appeared in She’s All That as Brock Hudson, a reality TV star.

The original She’s All That screenwriter, R. Lee Fleming Jr., also returned to write the He’s All That script. The She’s All That remake will be produced by Jennifer Gibgot and Andrew Panay, who also produced the original film. Many may be wondering if Freddie Prinze Jr., who starred as Zack Siler in She’s All That, will make a surprise cameo. According to Rachael Leigh Cook, Prinze Jr. will not be appearing in He’s All That.

In an interview with People, Cook revealed that Prinze was approached to appear in the film but declined the offer. Cook also said that his role was “up in the air” and he didn’t feel it was a good fit for him. She added:

The Mean Girls Director Directed He’s All That

Mean Girls director Mark Waters directed He’s All That. His other directing work includes Head over Heels, the 2003 version of Freaky Friday that starred Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan, Vampire Academy, and Magic Camp. Waters’ teen movie directing past may increase your excitement for He’s All That because it shows that he’s very familiar with directing the genre. He may even bring at least some of the Mean Girls charm to the world of He’s All That.

The He’s All That Plot Involves A Makeover

In She’s All That, after being dumped by his girlfriend, high school superstar Zack Siler makes a bet with his friends that he can turn any random girl into the Prom Queen. They select artist nerd Laney Boggs. Zack befriends Laney and turns her from nerd to popular girl. Of course, while getting to know each other, they fall in love.

The He’s All That plot synopsis starts off in a similar way, Padgett is a high school influencer who becomes humiliated after a fallout with her boyfriend. She then accepts a challenge to turn nerd Cameron into prom king. Cameron will likely go through a similar geek-to-chic makeover as Laney. I am assuming that this one also ends with them changing into better versions of themselves because of their friendship. Padget and Cameron will also likely fall head over heels for each other, as it is the romantic comedy way.

Netflix’s Summer Preview Trailer Included He’s All That Clips

In April 2021, Netflix released its official summer movie preview trailer. The trailer highlighted many of their major film releases from May to the end of August 2021. It includes clips of movies like Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead, The Kissing Booth 3, Monster, and Fatherhood. About 33 seconds into the three minute trailer, a few scenes from He’s All That are shown. These include one of Padget with her friends, a pool party scene, and what looks to be a 1920s themed prom or party. This short, teaser gives nothing away for any of the upcoming movies, but it’s enough to get us excited for Netflix’s summer lineup and He’s All That.

He’s All That has a lot of potential to fix the problems with the original (which has meant that joins some other classic '90s movies that haven't aged well), forge its own identity, and be a nice detour into '90s nostalgia. Catch this She’s All That remake when it premieres on Netflix on August 27.

Her character is supposedly a social media influencer, so at the very least, she didn’t need much preparation for that. Hopefully, the acting proof will be in the pudding, so to speak, when the She’s All That remake premieres on Netflix in a few months.

For those unaware, the remake is actually a twist on the original story. Officially titled He’s All That, it will show a teenage girl’s perspective (rather than that of a young male). So in effect, Addison Rae is taking on Freddie Prinze Jr.’s original role as the popular student who will makeover the school nerd for prom. True to the gender swap premise, actor Tanner Buchanan (of Designated Survivor and Cobra Kai fame) will be the nerd that Rae transforms. Rae claims it was “modernized in the best way,” while Buchanan said:

Only a few He’s All That images and teasers have emerged, so it’s not clear as of yet how different the film actually be from the original. As we’d expect after two decades apart, the remake certainly has a more crisp and sleek look to it. But the original She’s All That film garnered a cult-like following over the years, and that isn’t something you can just emulate. Netflix seems to be banking on the power of social media influencers to solidify projects as smash hits, though.

Hopefully, for Addison Rae’s sake, viral sensations from social media can easily transition to performers with bonafide acting chops. He’s All That premieres on Netflix on Aug. 27.

It sounds like the makings of a good movie and one that Addison Rae can’t wait for. When asked about the romance, Rae told ET Online:

Reports indicate that Kardashian’s family is also shocked because "they’ve never seen her like this before."

But Kourtney Kardashian doesn’t seem to care too much about what her family thinks, given how much they goof around at her expense. On a recent episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashians, Kim Kardashian went so far as to grill Addison Rae if she was “hooking up” with Kourtney. But Rae doesn’t seem to mind their barbing too much either. She said about the reality TV family:

The first one being her stint teaching Jimmy Fallon TikTok dances on The Tonight Show, which was met with backlash. Art is purportedly subjective, meaning it's hard to say what's good or bad but also whether someone is simply paying homage to something that has been done before or stealing an artist's original ideas. With the rise of TikTok, this debate has only become more complicated because it’s really a free-for-all platform that encourages various “challenges” that see millions of people mimicking the same certain dances or ideas. Addison Rae and Jimmy Fallon ran into a bit of trouble when it comes to the theory of “crediting” TikTok dances on The Tonight Show. But it looks like Beyonce’s choreographer has a solution that could help mitigate those kinds of complications in the future.

You might not know the name JaQuel Knight right off the bat, but he is the actual choreographing genius behind several popular songs, including Beyonce’s “Single Ladies” and “Formation,” as well as Cardi B’s “WAP.” Knight recently copyrighted his iconic dance for “Single Ladies” and has plans to help protect other artists’ creations in the future. Knight told Variety:

In other words, Beyonce’s choreographer has secured the rights to his own dance moves and wants to help other less well-known artists do so as well. Apparently, the company wants to change the dynamic of the industry by representing “a diverse range” of creatives and assisting “in copyright, licensing and beyond.”

This kind of solution might have helped the drama surrounding Addison Rae on The Tonight Show. She caught backlash because she was “teaching” Jimmy Fallon popular TikTok dance challenges and didn’t credit the original creators, most of whom were Black. At the time, Addison Rae said it was “hard” to credit during a tight show segment like hers but hoped to dance with the original makers in the future. Fallon recognized the growing issue and invited the original choreographers onto the show the next night.

But if TikTok dance makers partnered with someone like JaQuel Knight’s company, however, they could have the opportunity to own the rights to their original dances. As a result, any major network or platform looking to showcase those dances would need permission to do so. Moreover, they would need to ensure either compensation or credit for their use. Addison Rae and other huge influencers on TikTok would also have to abide by that.

Perhaps originally and to many still, TikTok is simply a place to have fun and be silly. Will Smith has spoofed the Real Housewives on there. Lizzo shot her shot for Chris Evans. Addison Rae has been back at teaching, this time for Kim Kardashian. But as the world becomes more interconnected through the Internet, we must recognize art for art, and the artist too. It seems Beyonce’s choreographer will help see to that.

The routine saw her emulate a number of notable TikTok dances, including Mya Johnson and Chris Cotter’s “Up” dance challenge. Many across the internet were upset that both Rae and Jimmy Fallon did not credit the TikTokers on air, and Rae later apologized and praised her fellow TikTokers. Fallon also welcomed all of the referenced TikTokers to the show virtually so that they could perform their dances.

Since the controversy, Addison Rae has been taking it easy, especially since she’s also coming off a breakup with fellow internet personality Bryce Hall. She recently stated that after having been in a number of relationships over the years, she’s planning to take some time to “focus on me.”

It’s a safe bet that part of that downtime involves spending time with the Kardashian family, and she may still be attempting to teach Kim some more moves. Whether she finally nails them remains to be seen, but at least it all amounts to some quality time among friends.

Back in October 2020, just two months after he'd turned 21 years old, the sometimes controversial TikTok and YouTube star Bryce Hall made headlines after being involved in a caught-on-camera physical altercation with workers at the L.A. restaurant Cinco Mexican. At the time, Hall and his friends shared their widely publicized side of the story, which was at odds with how the restaurant workers portrayed the events. Now, Hall is one of several people who are being sued by Cinco's co-owner for assault, battery, and more.

Bryce Hall, friend Rory Fitzpatrick and two other males are the defendants in the lawsuit filed by Cinco's co-owner Hernan Fernando, who is suing specifically for battery, assault, intentional infliction of emotional distress, and for engaging in acts of violence motivated by race, national origin, citizenship, immigration status and primary language. His claims laid out in the filing depict Hall as an instigator in the situation, which all began with the Internet personality illegally vaping in the restaurant's outdoor patio area.

According to the lawsuit (via TMZ), employees asked Bryce Hall and his friends several times to stop vaping, and Hernan Fernando requested a staff member cut their alcohol orders off and close out the party's bill. The plan was reportedly to give Hall back his credit card outside the establishment, offering further encouragement for him to leave. At this point, it's alleged that another employee heard Hall refer to Fernando with a racial slur, and that Hall followed it up by blowing vape smoke directly into Fernando's face, which was perceived as a health threat due to COVID-19 fears.

It's here that Hernan Fernando claims the situation turned violent, with Bryce Hall and Rory Fitzpatrick allegedly both hitting the restaurant co-owner multiple times, and the former was also accused of choking Fernando until another worker stepped in and split them apart. Hall & Co. were then accused of using more racial slurs and derogatory language as they left. Hall had previously stated that the restaurant didn't return his credit card that evening, which he claimed was the reason why he was angry at the time, and the lawsuit does appear to confirm that Fernando held the card to incite Hall to stick around for the cops to show up. The group was reportedly no longer there when authorities later arrived.

Beyond the emotional distress caused by the alleged use of racial epithets, Hernan Fernado claims that he suffered a broken hand on top of multiple bruises and bumps from being punched. At this time, it doesn't appear as if Bryce Hall has released any official statements on the matter.

Bryce Hall has been finding ways to keep his name in fans' mouths all throughout the pandemic, largely through his plethora of videos and TikToks and some charitable efforts, but also via his highly publicized relationship with Addison Rae (who made headlines for her own reasons in recent months) and a bit of trouble with the law. Hall was arrested with another TikTok star back in May 2020 for possession of marijuana, and in August 2020 was charged in Los Angeles with violating COVID-19 ordinances when having his 21st birthday bash.

With millions of social media followers, as well as music, movie and campaign deals galore, Addison Rae has been quickly and surely growing in her fame. She might not be a tried and true celebrity, yet, but there is definitely the potential for that to happen. However, when Addison Rae recently compared her stardom to the likes of pop icon Britney Spears, the Internet was quick to shut her down.

To be fair, Addison Rae’s comments seem to be coming from a place of being specifically asked about the similar circumstances in upbringing between her and Britney Spears, the Framing Britney Spears documentary and tabloid fame. In her interview with Bustle, she said:

The overall message behind Addison Rae’s words read more like an acknowledgment of how public life can be overwhelming for herself now and for Britney Spears in the past. But the Internet and some of the legions of Spears’ fans descended on Addison Rae. They accused her of overstepping the mark with the “audacity” of her comments and that it was “embarrassing.”

Fans were quick to point out that, firstly, Addison Rae is no way anywhere near or close to Britney Spears in terms of notoriety and fame. In fact, one user hilariously wrote, “The difference is I could show my mom a pic of Addison Rae and tell her that she’s my friend who works at Jamba Juice and she’d have no idea.” Many others were amazed at the “comparison” in question as well, as seen here:

It is 100 percent true that Addison Rae, who is best known for TikTok dance challenges, has nothing on the queen of pop herself. But it is also true that Addison Rae didn’t necessarily say she had more or less fame than Spears. No matter how you slice it, though, it is apples and oranges in terms of how they are truly similar.

A lot of fans are reacting to Addison Rae’s claim that untrue narratives have been put upon her and is something she’s “dealt with a lot,” much like Britney Spears. Some have pointed out the fact that Addison Rae puts her own self out there quite frequently, implying that she encourages paparazzi to bolster her fame. Still, a lot of the backlash for Addison Rae’s comments appears to stem from the recent mess from her appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. She was accused of not crediting Black creatives and watering down their original dances, meanwhile getting money and recognition for doing so. For some, this means to fame is nothing compared to Britney Spears “who worked tirelessly” over the years. Check out this one user’s tweet:

The Addison Rae-Britney Spears comparison isn’t really one at all, as every celeb has their own unique journey to where they get in life. To me, though, it seems more like a generational clash between Gen-Z kids and everyone born before 1997 who grew up listening to “Baby…One More Time” or “Oops!...I Did It Again.” It’s a hard pill to swallow but fame comes in all ways and sizes, and viral TikTokers and social media influencers are obviously becoming a huge part of that. We can’t exactly hate their game, but at the same time, all TikTokers should take heed: you still aren’t Britney.

Anyone with big families can tell you that outsiders can be instant bait to be grilled. It’s like open season to make your sibling squirm under the pressure. The same is just as true for the Kardashian-Jenner brood. Except instead of your mom giving your rumored significant other the third degree, it’s Kim Kardashian and the rest of their family on Keeping Up with the Kardashians interrogating mega-influencer Addison Rae if she is “hooking up” with Kourtney Kardashian.

The Kardashians aren’t the only ones who have raised eyebrows about Kourtney Kardashian and Addison Rae’s seemingly odd pairing. Ever since it was reported that the two are very close, close enough to even have sleepovers, many have speculated that perhaps the two are more than friends.

Addison Rae set the record straight on what is the final season of Keeping Up with the Kardashians. Besides, we and all the Kardashians now know that Kourtney Kardashian is dating Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker. Now there’s the most uncanny match-up if I ever saw one. The TikTok superstar has had enough problems to contend with anyway after that whole Tonight Show mess. So it’s probably good that Addison Rae is attempting to just focus on herself and her newly debuted music as she wades out of those waters, and apparently straight into reality show silliness.

Combine that with a supposed recent break-up – it’s a wonder how Addison Rae is handling life right now.

As it turns out, she just might be shifting gears. Following the alleged break-up to fellow Internet personality Bryce Hall, who she supposedly was in a relationship with since late 2019, and following that controversial Tonight Show appearance, it looks like Addison Rae wants to focus on herself more. She told The Morning Mash Up on SiriusXM Hits:

Being the second most followed TikTok account and kind of like its brand ambassador with 78 million fans certainly means that Addison Rae is presented with countless opportunities. She is one of the faces of American Eagle, she has an exclusive Spotify podcast, and will even star in the remake film He’s All That. But when it comes to backlash and criticism, it is often hard to tell if those things end or ultimately sustain someone's career.

When she was “teaching” Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show how to do various popular TikTok dances, Addison Rae probably didn’t anticipate that she would be ridiculed for not crediting or not living up to the original dancers' performances. Those original creators spoke out that, noting they would have liked to be given the same chance as Addison Rae to showcase their work, though one said that Addison Rae shouldn't have received that much backlash for the oversight. Fallon himself also attempted to remedy the situation in a recent episode by inviting the original creators onto The Tonight Show in another segment.

Judging from her recent statements, though, it sounds like Addison Rae wants to maximize her popularity while she still has it. Moreover, she wants to do so while she’s still single. She said,

Many have speculated that Addison Rae is referring to her ex-boyfriend Bryce Hall in her debut single and music video for “Obsessed.” The major theme of the song seems to be the self-love (or self-obsession, as it were) that she spoke about, with one of the lines even saying, “When you say that you’re obsessed with me, me too.”

Self-love slash obsession is highly encouraged. Although when it comes to TikTok influencers, it really is part of the job description anyway. For the regular TikTok users or even celebs on the platform, though, it really is just a joke factory featuring fake proposals and vagina eggs galore.

TikTok star Addison Rae and Jimmy Fallon found themselves at the center of controversy following the internet personality’s recent appearance on The Tonight Show. During her segment, Rae performed a number of famous TikTok dances, including one set to Cardi B’s “Up.” This sparked backlash, and commenters took to social media to compare Rae’s performance of the dance to that of the original version, which was crafted by teenagers Mya Johnson and Chris Cotter. Many were upset that the two Black content creators were not credited for their work during the broadcast and, now, Fallon and Rae have responded to the criticism:

Addison Rae was recently asked for her feelings on how the TikTok controversy was handled. When responding to TMZ, Rae pointed out that Mya Johnson, Chris Cotter and other creators were credited in The Tonight Show’s original YouTube video and argued that crediting them on air would have been “hard”:

Though Addison Rae went on to say that she and Jimmy Fallon are still discussing the situation behind the scenes, she also said that she enjoyed appearing on The Tonight Show. She also continued to express her hopes that she could collaborate with her fellow TikTokers at some point in the future:

On The Tonight Show, Jimmy Fallon acknowledged the controversy and welcomed Mya Johnson, Chris Cotter and the other TikTokers whose work was featured on the show. Fallon began the segment with a few words:

Ahead of their own appearance on The Tonight Show, Mya Johnson and Chris Cotter responded to the original segment. Johnson admitted that while she found it exciting that their dance moves were being performed on national television, she would have loved it if she and Carter, and their fellow TikTokers, would have been able to perform them in the first place. Cotter also expressed his disagreement with the massive backlash Addison Rae received, saying that he didn’t want to see Addison Rae brought down at the expense of him and Carter being lifted up.

It’s unfortunate that Mya Johnson, Chris Cotter and their fellow content creators were not credited for their dances on air, especially given how far-reaching the videos are proving to be. But at the very least, the situation as a whole has made many aware of the hard work they’ve been putting in to produce fun content.
