From Superman in the DCEU to Geralt in The Witcher, Henry Cavill has spent a large chunk of his time on screen playing dreamy heroes. He’s become known for exuding good guy energy so much on screen that many fans have questioned if he’s the same way in real life. The good news is yes, he very much is, and Alex Pettyfer’s own wild story confirms it. After what the Magic Mike star went through, Cavill definitely deserves the Man of Steel moniker.

In The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, Cavill and Petteyfer star alongside one another as parts of a secret, trigger-happy group that are assigned to fight back against Nazi forces. Based on just the Ministry trailer alone, it’s obvious this movie is all about three things: bombs, bullets and lots of danger. And from what Pettyfer told ET during a cast interview, the danger got real quickly, and he almost lost his life over an accident while filming. Thankfully, Cavill saved the day with this quick thinking. Here’s what Pettyfer had to say:

How terrifying! When I first read this, I thought the accident would’ve been something like a gnarly fall, but definitely not a drowning. Even though he didn’t share the circumstances of how the accident happened, I’m assuming that there is some amount of risk that goes into filming a very action-driven movie such as this one. I’m just glad everything turned out well, and there’s no doubt Pettyfer won’t be forgetting about his experience anytime soon.

As the Beastly actor continued, he couldn’t help but show his appreciation for what Cavill did for him and the fact that he’s just a great person all around. Pettyfer mentioned how well the leading man treated cast and crew alike, and brought up a super sweet email he sent before shooting even started. Honestly, I’m just so impressed by Cavill’s character. Pettyfer said:

The kind words didn’t stop there, and the interview turned into a Cavill appreciation fest very quickly by the rest of the Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare cast. Crazy Rich Asians star Henry Golding talked about Cavill’s worth ethic, stating that he’s always “first on set and last to leave.” Hero Fiennes Tiffin mentioned that the real life hero has a special ability to “keep everybody up and keep the momentum going,” and that he goes out of his way to ensure people on set feel heard.

From what we’ve seen already, Ungentlemanly Warfare has the possibility of being one of the most chaotic movies on the 2024 release schedule. Based partly on real historical events, it follows Cavill’s character, Gus March-Phillips, and his group of rogues as they use unconventional methods to defeat the fascism that had casted a dark shadow worldwide during WWII. While it’s unclear how much of the madness is fictionalized, its promise to be larger than life is my motivation to see it on screen as soon as I can.

The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare hits theaters everywhere on April 19, so it won’t be too long now until we get to see all the top-secret, espionage goodness it has to offer.

History is about to come alive again on the 2024 movie schedule, as director Guy Ritchie’s The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare is an action/adventure film that looks to cover a part of World War II not widely discussed. With this covert ops movie drawing the likes of Argylle’s Henry Cavill and Reacher himself Alan Ritchson into the cast, things already sound like they’re going to be quite explosive on the big screen. 

As Ritchie seems to be in full on can’t stop/won’t stop mode at this phase in his career, those action notables aren’t the end to this film’s impressive roster. So it’s time to take a look at the rest of the crew ready to set Europe ablaze for king and country in this movie based on author Damien Lewis' book of the same name. 

Let's start with those two gents we’ve already mentioned before moving onto the rest of the recruits lined up to do the job. Trust me, you're going to be blown away by who else is part of this would-be wrecking crew.

Henry Cavill

For someone who’s been hotly tipped as one of the best prospects to become the new face of the James Bond movies, Henry Cavill has certainly stacked his plate with espionage-adjacent credits. Mentioned by name in the trailer for The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, Cavill is playing the on-screen version of special operations veteran Gus March-Phillipps.

Most notably, Cavill's previous teaming with Guy Ritchie on The Man From U.N.C.L.E speaks to that sort of endeavor. That's probably part of how the actor reunited with Ritchie to tackle a more grounded espionage caper. What’s more, the two are set for yet another movie, which, according to Deadline wrapped production in early 2024. Previously, Henry was also seen stretching his spy muscles as the titular lead to Matthew Vaughn’s Argylle.

Alan Ritchson

Actor Alan Ritchson looks like he’s a man that could double as a mountain. With an impressive stature, the man has been the star of Prime Video subscription holders’ screens thanks to his lead role in the Reacher series. According to the actor's Instagram, Ritchson is playing the cinematic version of real life World War II hero Anders Lassen.

Also seen testing his might against Vin Diesel in Fast X, as well as playing a major role in the DC Comics series Titans, Ritchson is now heading to the front to do some damage. You can practically hear the witty repartee between Alan Ritchson and Henry Cavill, but there are plenty of other conversation partners waiting to take a crack as you'll see in the rest of the cast assembled.

Eiza González

Another veteran of the Fast Saga universe, Eiza González’s Hobbs and Shaw character is still waiting to resurface within the vast continuum of figures hiding in those particular shadows. But keeping her busy in the meantime is her unknown character in this new Guy Ritchie action/history extravaganza.

González can also be seen on the 2024 TV schedule, as she’s also part of the cast for Netflix’s series adaptation of author Liu Cixin’s sci-fi novel series 3 Body Problem. Making things all the more exciting, Eiza has already re-teamed with Mr. Ritchie, as well as Henry Cavill! The Godzilla vs. Kong star can be seen soon in an untitled action movie that should be The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare director's next release.

Alex Pettyfer

As a once and former Alex Rider in Stormbreaker, actor Alex Pettyfer started his career as a cinematic spy right from frame one. Pettyfer would branch out through various genres, thanks to films like In Time and Magic Mike granting him the opportunity. More recently, the Beastly actor also made his directorial debut through the 2018 movie Back Roads. 

Hero Fiennes Tiffin

Playing the role of young Tom Marvolo Riddle/Voldemort in 2009’s Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, Hero Fiennes Tiffin made quite the impression, although most would best remember Tiffin as Hardin Scott, the male lead in the After series. The nephew of M himself, Ralph Fiennes, Hero’s casting in The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare is yet another interesting coincidence in the young actor’s career. 

Babs Olusanmokun 

If you’re a loyal viewer of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, then you’ve definitely seen Babs Olusanmokun before. Playing the role of the mysterious Dr. Joseph M’Benga on the Paramount+ exclusive series, his ship physician character helps keep the Enterprise running at full steam. But outside of that particular role, Olusanmokun is also a veteran Guy Ritchie performer, as he was featured in the Jason Statham revenge thriller Wrath of Man. 

Henrique Zaga

Also credited as Henry Zaga, this Brazilian actor might best be known as Roberto da Costa/Sunspot, one of the Marvel-adjacent characters featured in the infamously postponed The New Mutants. On top of those credits, Zaga has also made a name for himself in the streaming world, as part of the casts to Netflix’s 13 Reasons Why and Apple TV+’s The Crowded Room. 

Til Schweiger

Actor Til Schweiger’s experience in World War II filmmaking is perhaps one of the most notable in this entire cast list. That’s not knocking anyone else present in The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare’s lineup, but when you have something like Inglourious Basterds’ Hugo Stigliz on your resume, that’s kind of a huge calling card. Schweiger's work in espionage pictures can also be seen in his role of The Watchmaker, a part in one of the best action movies in recent years: Charlize Theron’s Atomic Blonde.

Henry Golding

Another previous member of the Guy Ritchie company, Henry Golding was last seen working with the director on the 2020 crime comedy The Gentleman. Keeping his action credentials sharp through pictures like the G.I. Joe spin-off Snake Eyes, Golding’s spot on the Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare roster further bolsters the combat cred present among the cast. Henry has also been cast in The Old Guard 2, joining action vets Charlize Theron and Uma Thurman for that Netflix-bound sequel.

Cary Elwes

Re-teaming after their previous work on Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre, Cary Elwes and Guy Ritchie are back at it again with The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare. A legendary actor who’s held landmark roles in projects ranging from The Princess Bride to Saw, Elwes has been keeping his espionage skills up to date thanks to his recent part in the Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning cast. 

That’s a lot of people to get to know in what seems like a short time, but don’t worry. The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare is slated to hit theaters on April 19th, so you have plenty of time to prepare. Though you should keep an eye on this cast list, as any major additions to the roster will be reported as they happen. 

While most of the cast of the original Magic Mike returned for the sequel, one actor, noticeably absent from the follow-up was Alex Pettyfer, who played "The Kid" in the original film. While there are numerous business reasons for why this was, the reason is none of those things. Pettyfer says he wasn’t asked back because of personal issues between him and the franchise star Channing Tatum.

While you’d expect personal problems to result in a lot of finger pointing between the two parties, that doesn’t appear to be happening here. Pettyfer is actually pointing the finger at himself, at least for some of the issues.

The comments came on Bret Easton Ellis’ B.E.E. Podcast. According to Pettyfer, Tatum never wanted the young actor cast in the role to begin with, as Pettyfer apparently had already built something of a reputation for being difficult to work with. The reputation led Pettyfer to mostly keep his mouth shut on set, in order to avoid upsetting people, but this appears to have had the opposite effect as it instead led people to think Pettyfer thought he was too good to talk to them.

The problems did not end when filming wrapped either. Alex Pettyfer and his girlfriend moved into a new apartment following the movie which was owned by a friend of Channing Tatum’s. They didn’t stay a full month because of allergy issues Pettyfer had with the place, but Tatum’s friend wanted a full month’s rent, which the actor ended up refusing to pay. He now admits that was the wrong move and he should have paid it. Pettyfer was dealing with the death of a family member and so ignored the issue for a while. Eventually, Tatum stepped in to try and resolve the issue, apparently sending Pettyfer a pretty negative email, which Pettyfer then responded to in a less than positive way himself.

For his part the actor denies the rumors that he’s difficult to work with, rather he insists the difficulty comes with the film’s promotion later because he hates the flying that is required to do media appearances.

Ultimately Pettyfer says Channing Tatum was looking for a reason not to like him, though it appears the actor gave the man who will be Gambit plenty of reasons. "The Kid" calls Channing Tatum "an incredible influence," so he really does seem to be apologetic about the issues. Actors not getting along is hardly a new phenomenon, though it’s always upsetting to see. Hopefully, these two can put their issues behind them at some point down the road. Though it likely won’t be for Magic Mike 3.

We've been waiting patiently for a glimpse behind the scenes of Star Wars: Episode VII, but we admit, we didn't quite expect it to happen like this. Latino Review's El Mayimbe has dug up a post from a different Star Wars fan site, Obi Wants To Know Me, where a Lucasfilm employee appears to be looking for fan reactions to a a recent rumor-- one that started at Latino Review, it's worth noting-- that Alex Pettyfer and Rachel Hurd-Wood were in the running for roles. Here's a screenshot of the post below:

Here's why this carries more weight than your average fan forum post. Obi Wants To Know Me is a site actually founded by Lucasfilm, and with the express purpose of getting feedback from hardcore Star Wars fans. According to this post, from another fan site, Spencer-- the guy who wrote this post-- was also the one seeking out members for the forum; that appears to be this guy, who is a real human being. We've reached out to Disney to try and get a confirmation from Lucasfilm that this post does indeed come from inside the company, which is of course, the entire reason it's important. But the fact that the post from a closed-off community that actually requires signing a non-disclosure agreement to join has leaked probably means we won't see anything quite this open again if it is legit.

So… does this mean that they're trying to cast Alex Pettyfer and Rachel Hurd-Wood? If the post is real, it means they're at least thinking strongly about it. Unlike names like Benedict Cumberbatch and Ryan Gosling, Pettyfer and especially Hurd-Wood are the kinds of up-and-comers who you could put in a franchise like Star Wars: Episode VII, fresh faces whose star power won't get in the way of the many, many other things about Star Wars for fans to be excited about. Hurd-Wood in particular is a real unknown, most famous for her performance as a child in 2003's Peter Pan and a role in 2006's Perfume: The Story of a Murderer, but Pettyfer is relatively low-profile too, overshadowed as the lead in last summer's Magic Mike by a fleet of more charismatic hunks. Personally I'd rather see the return of Jar-Jar Binks than Pettyfer in another starring role, but I'm not a member of Obi Wants To Know Me, so nobody's asking me.

Again: this is not confirmation that Pettyfer or Hurd-Wood has been cast. At most it's confirmation that Lucasfilm is considering casting them-- and we have no idea how many other people might be in the running. We don't have a direct line to Lucasfilm the way this forum does, but feel free to share your thoughts in the comments anyway.

Until J.J. Abrams, Disney and Lucasfilm actually announce who will be starring in the upcoming Star Wars: Episode VII we will continue to hear a seemingly-endless stream of casting rumors - and that continues today. Following up on their claims that actors like Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Ryan Gosling and Zac Efron have been looked at for roles in the new Star Wars film, Latino Review is now saying that the production is now considering actors Alex Pettyfer and Rachel Hurd-Wood for roles in the sci-fi movie.

While the site doesn't have any information regarding the character that Pettyfer is going out for, their guess is that he is trying out for the part of Luke Skywalker's son (which, mind you, isn't a character that has been confirmed to be in the movie). What's more, the site adds that Gosling wound up turning down the part he was "offered," which is what may have opened the door to Pettyfer being called in.

But while the site's sources don't seem to have any confirmed details about the character that Pettyfer is looking to play, they are a bit more specific about Hurd-Wood's potential part. The rumor says that she has gone in to read for the "daughter of Princess Leia (and presumably Han Solo)." The article stresses that the actress doesn't have the part yet (a part that may or may not actually exist), but adds that she is the only one who has gone in thus far.

All of these rumors should be taken with a grain of salt, but it's worth mentioning that both Pettyfer and Hurd-Wood do seem to fit descriptions of characters that were found in a casting call back in June. That report said that the production was looking for a "Late-teen female," a "young twenty-something male" and a "second young female, also late teens." At 21 Pettyfer seems like a match, and while Hurd-Wood just recently turned 21 she can probably still get away with playing a teenager.

Pettyfer has gotten some solid parts in high-profile films in the last couple years, taking starring roles in movies like I Am Number Four, Beastly, In Time and Magic Mike, but has yet to really have his big breakout. He can currently be seen in theaters playing a hyper-violent plantation owner in Lee Daniels' The Butler, and is now in production on the remake of Endless Love, neither of which really seem like a stepping stone to Star Wars. Hurd-Wood, meanwhile, got her start playing Wendy in the 203 live-action version of Peter Pan and has since been featured in movies like Perfume: The Story of a Murderer, Dorian Gray and Solomon Kane. A role in Star Wars would easily be er most high profile role yet and could completely change her career.

The most exciting thing we've ever heard about the long in-development The Crow reboot arrived just a little more than a week ago when it was revealed that The Avengers' Tom Hiddleston had been having discussions about playing the title role. So naturally it turns out that those reports may have been overblown.

Deadline has effectively splashed cold water on the idea of seeing the Thor villain dress up in goth makeup and become Eric Draven, saying that "A simple conversation has been over-hyped and reported like it was going to happen." But while the site throws that option out the window, they offer up what they believe to be an actual possibility: Alexander Skarsgard. Apparently the True Blood star has been getting a ton of offers ever since his version of Tarzan was put on hold at Warner Bros, and the site says that The Crow "[is] Skarsgard’s role if he wants it."

The site has also shut down reports that there is anything real or official going on between Alex Pettyfer and the adaptation of EL James' Fifty Shades of Grey. Earlier this month we learned that Oscar-winning director Gus Van Sant is lobbying to helm the project and has gone as far as to film test footage starring Pettyfer as lead male character Christian Grey. Deadline seems to confirm that the test footage exists, but says that Pettyfer is not attached to the film in any way. Instead, Universal is still waiting on a draft from writer Kelly Marcel and searching for a director, adding, "They would not set any cast without input from a filmmaker."

Director Gus Van Sant, who is best known for films like Good Will Hunting and Milk, probably isn't the first name you think of when considering potential filmmakers to helm the film version of EL James' Fifty Shades of Grey, but apparently he really wants the gig...so much so that he's already filmed test footage to show that he's the right man for the job.

The Wrap is reporting word from insiders that say that twice Oscar nominated filmmaker has teamed up with Magic Mike star Alex Pettyfer to film a "steamy sex scene" from the book in order to show that he is the right director for the highly-anticipated adaptation. Sources say that the scene Van Sant chose was the one in which protagonist Anastasia Steele loses her virginity to Christian Grey, though there's no mention of who played the ingenue in the scene.

The site notes that Pettyfer is not officially attached to the feature in any way, and was merely a choice for the test footage. That said, the film is being made by Focus Features, a subsidiary of Universal Pictures, which just cast the young British actor in the upcoming Endless Love remake.

The status of the Fifty Shades of Grey adaptation is a bit unclear at the moment, though previous reports have suggested the movie could be in theaters by next summer, and screenwriter Kelly Marcel has promised that the movie will be aiming for an NC-17 rating.

In 1981, Brooke Shields followed up her iconic turn in The Blue Lagoon with the teen-centered romance Endless Love. Based on the Scott Spencer novel, the Franco Zeffirelli-directed film centered on a girl who falls for a boy her parents don't approve of. And it helped cement Shields as a star. Now history might repeat itself as the Endless Love remake has snagged a gorgeous young ingénue of its own, with a handsome leading ingendude to boot!

Variety reports Gabriella Wilde and Alex Pettyfer have been cast to play the new versions of lovers Jade and David. Wilde is best remembered from Paul W.S. Anderson's 2011 take on The Three Musketeers, and will appear as Sue Snell in Kimberly Peirce's remake Carrie later this year. Pettyfer fronted the sci-fi flop I Am Number Four, and played the duplicitous bro-friend to Channing Tatum in the breakout hit Magic Mike. Basically, both have scored noteworthy roles, but this could prove their tipping point.

Understandably, these parts were coveted opportunities for young actors looking to breakthrough in Hollywood, resulting in much screen testing. Ultimately, Pettyfer won the role over Brenton Thwaites, who (funny enough) starred in the 2012 TV movie Blue Lagoon: The Awakening. For her part, Wilde beat out a batch of TV starlets, including The Slap's Sophie Lowe, Once Upon a Time's Sarah Bolger, and Bates Motel's Olivia Cooke. This should mean, beyond being insanely beautiful, Pettyfer and Wilde will share an intense onscreen chemistry.

Shana Feste, who wrote and directed Country Strong, will helm the Endless Love remake, and also rewrote its screenplay, previously penned by Josh Safran. However, it's currently unknown how closely Feste's version will mirror the previous picture or Spencer's novel.

With pre-production expected to begin soon on Summit's feature adaptation of Divergent and the female lead already cast, fans of the Veronica Roth's young-adult novel are likely anxiously awaiting word on confirmation for the male lead. Right now, it's looking like Alex Pettyfer, Jeremy Irvine and Lucas Till are among the contenders for the part.

Just last week, we shared an update on the status of Divergent, which is expected to arrive in 2014 and will star Shailene Woodley as lead character Beatrice "Tris" Prior. The movie is confirmed to film in Chicago, which is where the story takes place - or rather, the story takes place in a futuristic/dystopian version of Chicago, where people are broken into five factions determined by their way of life. The story follows Tris as she chooses her faction and begins the training process in the hopes of securing a spot among them. Neil Burger will direct the adaptation, based on a script written by Evan Daugherty.

Variety posted word that Pettyfer, Irvine and Till are all reading for the male lead later this week. They don't mention the character by name, but I'm assuming they're referring to Four, Tris' instructor during her faction training. The book is told from Tris' perspective, and there are a few male characters, but Four is featured most prominently as Tris forms a connection with him during her training.

Of the three men reportedly in contention for the role, Pettyfer may be the most recognizable, with recent credits that include Magic Mike, In Time, Beastly and I Am Number Four. I'm not sure I picture him as Four, to be honest, though with darker hair and a few face piercings, it might be interesting to see him take on the part of Eric, one of the leaders of Tris' faction.

It sounds like Till may have the edge on the other two actors, as Variety's sources say he's already tested for the part. Among Till's credits are Battle Los Angeles and X-Men: First Class, in which he played Havok. British actor Jeremy Irvine's credits include War Horse and the role of Pip in Mike Newell's Great Expectations. All three actors turn twenty-three this year, so they're on even footing as far as their age goes.

There’s a reason why Beauty and the Beast is such a timeless story. It’s message about inner-beauty and looking beyond vanity is something that can and will always be applicable to our society. Any where on Earth is that story better suited than in a high school?

Daniel Barnz’s Beastly takes the traditional story and moves it to modern day New York where a vain, pompous rich kid, played by Alex Pettyfer, is turned into a ghastly looking figure. In order to ever change back, he must get somebody to love him for his personality instead of his appearance, and he believes that he has found this person in Lindy, played by Vanessa Hudgens.

Sitting down in a roundtable interview with the two stars, we discussed what it was like working with Barnz as a director, what it was like for Alex to sit in the make-up chair for such an incredible length of time, and what it was like working with each other on set. Check it out below.

Alex, what did you do to get through the arduous three hours of make-up every single day?

Alex Pettyfer: Well, it was five and a half, for one. I think it’s [listening to] The Police and watching movies.

When you were first shown the conceptual design for the character, did it ever flash in your mind that the make-up process would take so long?

AP: I think I had this image in my mind that it was just one of those things where you’re like that [pulls invisible rubber mask over his head], and it takes 30 seconds — not the case. So I guess I had a different view of what it was going to be, but I’m very proud of how it turned out.

A lot of the Hunter/Kyle character involves developing a moral conscience and then learning how to romance a girl. What do you do to romance a girl?

AP: Buy her chocolate, go for a meal, watch a movie.

You don’t write the long-hand page-after-page letters or go out and buy her Bulgari diamonds?

AP: No. Oh, wow, I wish. If I had that money, then I would be good. I’d fund my own movies.

Are you a fan of writing letters long-hand like your character?

AP: I haven’t ever done a long-hand, written letter, but I think that maybe I should start.

You prefer the computer?

AP: Oh yeah.

Vanessa, how do you bring the damsel in distress archetype into the 21^st century?

Vanessa Hudgens: I think a damsel in distress, no matter how you look at it, is a female in need. My character, Lindy, in the beginning, who thinks it’s a lot easier to go through life under the radar, to lay back rather than stand out. I feel a little saddening, you know, because I feel like women are a strong breed and we should stand up and it’s really beautiful because I feel like, especially in this, through love she kind of find herself and learns to love herself, which allows her to love someone else.

What attracted you to the role, Alex?

AP: I think just from where the character started to where he finished and that journey. Everyone kind of looks for a journey and he had a very interesting one. I was also attracted to that classic tale of Beauty and the Beast. I’d never seen it told through the male’s perspective.

Did the director, Daniel Barnz, at any point sit you guys down and show you the artwork and the design that he was using to develop the look of the movie?

VH: When I first sat down with Daniel he had a whole book of how he wanted it to look, he had a lot of references to Pride and Prejudice – just kind of the way that it looked, because it’s very visual, you get to have a play on the way that we see things. He wanted to shoot through glass and all of these really interesting ideas and I knew that he had a very clear vision so I put my trust in him entirely.

Alex, is there any news on the Hunger Games front?

AP: No.

Have you read the books?

AP: Yes.

What did you think of them?

AP: I liked them.

If you could cast anyone for Katniss’ character, who would you cast?

AP: I don’t know.

How hard is it to keep a straight face when you are working with Neil Patrick Harris?

AP: He’s very funny because he cracks up himself. I needed to see him not make himself laugh so we had a bonding session and we went and watched Bruno – very funny sitting next to Neil Patrick Harris watching Bruno. Let’s just put it that way, very, very funny.

There was some time in between when the film was completed and now that it’s being released. In that time that has passed, has it given you a chance to look back on the film in a different way and perhaps see it in a new light?

AP: This is not a summer movie. It was a beautiful love story and it was going against big blockbusters and that’s not what we wanted. We had a targeted audience so we moved it to this day and it actually gave us a chance to redo the ending and make it a better film. I’m very happy that it comes out March 4^th.

What surprised you working with each other?

VH: I don’t know. We didn’t know each other before we did the movie, but the whole thing was a learning experience with each other. We had a lot of fun and it was a very creative environment and Daniel, our director, gave us the room to play and figure these scenes out and it was a lot of fun.

And you, Alex?

AP: Same.

What did each of you learn while making this film?

AP: Patience and teamwork.

VH: With each project you do you learn something new and practice makes perfect. I think the best acting class you’ll get is to actually be in front of the camera. It was a lot of fun. I got to play a new character that I hadn’t played before and find new beats I haven’t really played before, as well. I feel like it was an awesome growth.

You both just came off working with some very stylized directors, Zack Snyder and D.J. Caruso, respectively. How did your experience working with Daniel Barnz compare?

VH: Daniel was really great because he really wanted to help us develop our characters. Even though this is a take on a fantasy he wanted our characters to be very real and have real depth and emotion. That was something I thank him so much for because we really figured out who these people were and then, from there, built on top of it, working on the scenes. He really wanted to make sure that we felt prepared and feel like we could do the best that we could.

Alex, what is more of a challenge for you, playing American or playing disgustingly rich?

AP: Being American. Because most of you are disgustingly rich.

One of the bigger changes from the novel to the film is that the character isn’t a hairy, hirsute, animal like creature. Was that a relief, that you weren’t going to look like a guy in a werewolf outfit?

AP: Yes, definitely. I’m glad we went more Edward Scissorhands than we did Twilight.

Were you thinking of Edward Scissorhands while you did it?

AP: No, I was thinking more along the lines of Freddy Kruger. No, not really. I don’t know. I think we did something original.

Buried in Deadline's piece from earlier today about two new actors added to Andrew Niccol's Now (news we covered right here) is a small detail about one of those actors, Alex Pettyfer, who is widely considered an up-and-comer thanks to his starring role in next year's I Am Number Four. Apparently his career prospects are looking so good that Bryan Singer has his eye on Pettyfer for the starring role in Jack the Giant Killer, which is set to start filming in the spring.

We learned previously that Aaron Johnson was also on the shortlist, and Deadline adds that Max Irons, of 2009's Dorian Gray, is also in the mix. Really at this point we could expect Singer to be looking at any youngish up-and-coming actor with a passable English accent, so none of this is all that surprising. But even as Pettyfer's big starring role in Beastly keeps getting delayed by the distributor, the guy who has only previously been seen in Alex Rider: Operation Stormbreaker is making quite a name for himself. Even if he doesn't land the Giant Killer job, he seems to be well on his way to a long career.

We've already seen photos from the set of the upcoming sci-fi film formerly titled I'm.mortal, starring Justin Timberlake and Amanda Seyfried as two people on the run in a future where the aging gene has been turned off. The next film from Andrew Niccol went into production without a replacement for the truly awful working title, but now we're hearing that not only have two new actors joined the cast, but they've finally come up with a name for the thing.

According to Deadline the movie is now titled, simply, Now, a title that will be utterly impossible to Google but at least isn't outright embarrassing. Joining the cast are Alex Pettyfer, star of the forthcoming I Am Number Four and the to-be-released-eventually high school fairy tale Beastly, and Matt Bomer, star of USA's White Collar. It's not clear what roles the two will play, but given that it's set a world of youth and both are fresh-faced handsome sons of guns, they should fit in just fine.

CBS may be the king of ratings amongst the other network channels, but their films division isn't doing so hot. Started in 2007, the company, CBS Films, has put out two films so far this year: Jennifer Lopez's The Back-Up Plan and Extraordinary Measures (which is better known for this video than for being an actual movie). The company was scheduled to have two more films this year, Dwayne Johnson's Faster and Vanessa Hudgens' Beastly, but now that number is being cut in half.

THR says that CBS has postponed the release of Hudgens' film, moving it from July 30th, 2010 to March 18, 2011. The push came as a result of Universal's decision to release the new Zac Efron film, Charlie St. Cloud, on the same weekend. Not wanting the High School Musical stars to battle for attention, the change was made to a date next year when kids would be on spring break, according to CBS Film Executive Vice President Steven Friedlander. The film is a modern adaptation of Beauty and the Beast, which also stars Alex Pettyfer, Mary Kate Olsen, and Neil Patrick Harris.

So why, you may ask, was CBS Films so quick to back down? Hell, both stars are from the same franchise and should have an equal share of the Disney tween audience, right? What's that? 17 Again made about 13 times what Bandslam made domestically? That may have something to do with it.

Right now, I'll be honest, Teresa Palmer looks pretty much like any other pretty blond Australian import. She's been snagging steady movie roles since 2005, but since they've mostly been in movies like The Grudge 2 and Bedtime Stories, I haven't caught them. But Palmer has seem on the verge of her big moment for a while now, and now she's adding strength to her Next Big Thing status. THR reports that she has signed on to play one of the refugee aliens in I Am Number Four.

An adaptation of an upcoming sci-fi novel by James Frey and Jobie Hughes, Number Four already stars Alex Pettyfer as the titular alien refugee, and Sharlto Copley as Pettyfer's "guardian and mentor" (human? alien? who knows!) Palmer's character is known as Number Six, and while it's not a guarantee that she'll be Pettyfer's love interest, come on. Pretty alien boy? Pretty alien girl? Both of them refugees on the same planet? That's how love connections are made.

The time has come. Beastly has completely lost its dark side and transformed into a love story prime for semi-grown High School Musical fans. I guess we should have seen this coming all along, but my fingers were crossed that the film would ultimately embrace its sinister elements and make for a nice surprise.

Alex Pettyfer stars as Kyle, the quintessential hot guy at school, but that all changes when he crosses paths with a menacing Mary-Kate Olsen. She strips him of his good looks and transforms him into everything he hates. The only way to regain his boyish charm? Find someone to love him for who he is. His prime target? None other than the quintessential girl next door, Vanessa Hudgens.

Beastly is leaning towards the juvenile and formulaic side, but the film doesn’t hit theaters until July 30th, so there’s still time to regain lost faith.

Sorry Beastly, but there’s already an overdose of ‘edgy teen romances’ thanks to The Twilight Saga. On top of that, the Cullens are far better looking when they’re revealed. They get all sparkly; this beast is like a neo-Nazi version of Powder.

This poster actually isn’t all that bad. The presentation is simple yet unique and it always helps when the stars are easy on the eyes. The sole potential problem is that the transparent title reveals Kyle Kingson’s (Alex Pettyfer) bad side. Kyle had it all - good looks, wealth, intelligence – but his tendency to bully inferior classmates gets the better of him when one decides to retaliate and curses Kyle, turning him into everything he hates. His only hope is to find a girl who can love him for who he truly is, despite his new hideous appearance.

Ohhh Peter Krause, I want only good things for you. I loved you so much on Six Feet Under, even though Nate was kind of a narcissist , and even though I didn't watch Dirty Sexy Money I wanted it to succeed for your sake. But I'm really not sure I can get behind this-- Krause has joined the cast of Beastly, a movie that already stars-- sigh-- Mary-Kate Olsen and Vanessa Hudgens.

The story, according to Variety, is a retelling of Beauty and the Beast, starring Alex Pettyfer as a guy who plays a prank on a classmate without realizing she's a witch. Hilariously, the witch is played by Olsen, who has spent the last few years perfecting her bag lady style. Krause will be playing the dad of the kid, who I assume will be turned into a beast and then, maybe, kidnap Hudgens and make her life in his house full of talking candlesticks and teapots?

I guess the "parent in a tween movie" is an inevitable step for any actor over 30, so I can't resent Krause for taking the part. I just hope it's not too embarrassing, and that maybe the paycheck can lead him to a role that's half as satisfying as Nate Fisher.

Hey remember the Olsen Twins? Their attempt at a film career never really went anywhere so at least one of them is latching on to another teenybopper sensation who did manage to make the leap. Variety says Mary-Kate Olsen has joined the cast of Beastly, the Vanessa Hudgens starring Beauty and the Beast modernization.

She joins the cast along with Alex Pettyfer, who will play a handsome, egotistical young man who’s cursed and transformed into everything he despises. I’m guessing that means ugly and poor (isn’t that the way these things usually work?), in other words one of us. Mary-Kate will play the woman who curses him, which makes her a witch. Hudgens is, of course, the love interest who will see past Alex Pettyfer's awful exterior.

The movie, which will be set in modern day New York, is based on a novel written by Alex Flinn.
