We’ve gotten to the point where '90s nostalgia has cycled into public interest, but what’s up with all these revivals getting the boot? We’re still treating our wounds after the new Buffy the Vampire Slayer TV show was canceled at Hulu, and now we’ve received word that another series based on one of the best '90s movies is no longer happening either.

Did you know there was a Clueless TV show in development? A year ago, it was announced that Alicia Silverstone would be reprising her role as Cher Horowitz in a Peacock series following the character’s life years after the events of the iconic movie. But now, Variety has found out that the show is no longer “moving forward” at the streaming service.

While this is definitely bad news, the report also indicates that the producers behind this Clueless show over at CBS Studios and Paramount are still excited about the specific project and continuing the Clueless IP. So it’s possible that another streamer/network could still pick up the idea or another Clueless spinoff could happen down the line.

The series had Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage attached to write, and they were a good fit considering the duo famously created The O.C. and Gossip Girl – which certainly lend themselves to the tone of Clueless. Additionally, Jordan Weiss, who recently wrote the Freaky Friday sequel, Freakier Friday, was going to collaborate with them as well. The writer/director of Clueless, Amy Heckerling, was also an executive producer on it.

We didn’t know much about the plot for this Clueless series, but it was interesting to imagine what Cher might be doing these days in her late 40s. Perhaps she would have a high schooler of her own!

Back in 2020, there were plans to make a Clueless series about Cher’s best friend Dionne, which also didn’t get past the development process and over the finish line. I have to wonder if the struggle to bring Clueless back has to do with following in the iconic 1995 movie's footsteps and living in the shadow of the original. Given what’s been said about Paramount’s enthusiasm for the property, we have to imagine a spinoff will materialize one way or another, but just not on the immediate TV schedule.

It’s a bummer that this happened not that long after Buffy The Vampire Slayer: New Sunnydale was canceled – but that was a more heartbreaking situation because a pilot was filmed and everything, and now it’ll probably sit on a password-protected hard drive in a dark room for a long time instead.

Thankfully, Clueless hasn't been fully turned down yet, plus we can still count on another '90s TV show happening: Ryan Coogler’s The X-Files reboot, which is coming to Hulu (hopefully).

Amy Heckerling's Clueless is one of the best movies of the 1990s, and has remained endlessly quotable in the decades since its 1995 release. The sneaky book to screen adaptation took example from Jane Austen's Emma, and is currently streaming with a Paramount+ subscription. Alicia Silverstone famously played beloved protagonist Cher Horowitz, and recently offered an update about what's happening with the movie's long-awaited sequel.

The 49 year-old actress has remained synonymous with Clueless, despite how many other projects she's done over the years. While attending the 2026 Golden Globes, the Bugonia star spoke to E! News about what's happening with the long-awaited clueless sequel. She admitted the follow-up project was at least partly inspired by Silverstone playing Cher in a Super Bowl commercial, offering:

It looks like we can thank the Big Game for Silverstone suddenly becoming interested in doing a Clueless sequel. She was able to easily slip back into character, and there are tons of fan who would like to know what Cher has been up to since High School. Is she still dating her former stepbrother, Paul Rudd's Josh? Hopefully he and other members of the Clueless cast return for the developing sequel.

While Silverstone has spoken about the struggles of her post-Clueless fame, she seems happy with the beloved movie's legacy. In the same interview she was asked for some specifics or hopes for Cher in the follow-up movie, and she got real about just how early it was into the development process. In her words:

Clueless is super re-watchable, and it sounds like fans will be stuck with the original movie for the foreseeable future. But I'm a bit comforted by Alicia Silverstone's comments; I'd rather them slowly develop a second Clueless movie with care rather than rushing to bring back Cher and her friends to the big screen. Otherwise I'd be totally buggin'.

The power of nostalgia has seen a number of beloved '90s IPs return to the big screen in recent years. That includes the Scream movies, Jumanji, and the forthcoming Practical Magic sequel. It feels appropriate that Clueless will get new life in this matter, and the pressure will be on for the long-awaited sequel to deliver.

As previously mentioned, Clueless is streaming now on Paramount+. While the sequel won't be on the 2026 movie release list, smart money says Silverstone's comments will help buoy excitement until we get more information.

December is finally here, which means we can now dive head-first into the 2025 Christmas movie calendar without fear or shame. I’ve been perusing the offerings on the Netflix schedule and came upon one that called to the ‘90s kid in me — A Merry Little Ex-Mas. Alicia Silverstone stars in this divorce rom-com (if that’s a thing), and the response has been tepid at best. However, I think it deserves more credit than it’s getting — except for that ending.

In A Merry Little Ex-Mas, Silverstone plays Kate, who is going through an amicable divorce (or, if we must, a “conscious uncoupling”) with husband Everett (Oliver Hudson). She plans to finally get her career back on track after setting her big-city dreams aside to support Everett’s medical practice and raise their now-grown kids. However, everything gets complicated when Kate learns that Everett has a new girlfriend (Jameela Jamil).

I Appreciated How Messy Things Got For Kate Trying To Navigate A Breakup Over The Holidays

I love a good romantic-comedy, but the textbook formula of “meet-cute/blossoming romance/small conflict due to misunderstanding/happily ever after” can get repetitive, especially if you love Hallmark’s Countdown to Christmas schedule as much as I do. Divorce is not the easiest topic to tackle in what you want to be a light-hearted holiday romp, but I respect it for its uniqueness.

Critics didn’t really agree, though, giving it just 47% on Rotten Tomatoes, while Netflix subscription holders protested even harder with just 35% on the Popcornmeter. Complaints ran the gamut from bad acting to not being funny to hating the ending (which I’ll talk about in a bit), but here’s what I liked about it.

I appreciated the exploration of a relationship that (seemingly) had run its course. No scandal, no cheating, just soon-to-be empty-nesters growing in different directions. Even with no animosity between them, though, of course the holidays would still get messy when traditions and nostalgia come into play.

Kate and Everett got flirty despite the presence of his new girlfriend, Tess, and we even saw an uglier side of the couple during a big fight that felt like one they’d had over and over, shedding some light on why they’d decided to divorce.

As for being unfunny, I personally liked that the main couple wasn’t involved in a lot of the comedy, which gave validation to what they were going through. A lot of the laughs were facilitated by their daughter’s Harry Potter-obsessed boyfriend and Pierson Fodé’s Chet, who kept the Netflix male stripper vibes alive this season as Kate’s wildly unserious suitor.

A Merry Little Ex-Mas Lost Me With Its Ending

Let this serve as a SPOILER ALERT if you don’t want to know how this all turns out, but while A Merry Little Ex-Mas tried to bend the rules of the holiday rom-com, it definitely whipped back around in the end to give Kate and Everett a disappointingly conventional "happy" ending:

The couple realized they still loved each other and decided to … consciously recouple? Un-cousciously uncouple? Whatever, they got back together.

Also, despite Kate insisting for the entirety of the movie that she was moving to Boston, because she’d spent half of her life living in a place she never wanted to be in the first place, she ultimately caved to all the guilt trips, expressing her love for the small town and deciding to stay.

Everyone on the screen may have been smiling as the credits rolled, but I was left feeling smothered on Kate’s behalf. She had finally decided to do something for herself, only to get sucked back into a marriage and town she wanted out of.

A Merry Little Ex-Mas deserves some credit for tackling divorce during the holidays, but I really wish the Netflix Christmas movie would have been brave enough to see it through to the end without pulling its punches.

Clueless is considered one of the best '90s films, but when it hit theaters in 1995, I was only seven—definitely not the target audience. I didn’t really become aware of Alicia Silverstone as an actress until Batman & Robin, and by the time I was old enough to actually watch Clueless, the cultural moment had already passed. I knew the highlights—the famous outfits, the iconic quotes, the general vibe—but I’d never actually sat down and watched the movie from start to finish.

My daughter was familiar with many of the movie’s fashion references from social media before she ever watched the film, which I found out was based on classic literature. The plaid, the knee socks, the platform Mary Janes—Gen Z has revived this aesthetic in many ways. But what they’ve also embraced is the movie’s tone: sarcastic, confident, and always self-aware. Clueless talks like the internet. Take this moment, for example:

• Amber: “Ms. Stoeger, my plastic surgeon doesn’t want me doing any activity where balls fly at my nose.”
• Dionne: “Well, there goes your social life.”

That’s meme-tier dialogue. Clueless basically invented influencer energy, and Gen Z completely gets the assignment.

It’s Surprisingly Queer-Friendly

Amy Heckerling’s beloved rom-com is rightly praised for its portrayal of female friendship, but it’s also a surprisingly queer-friendly film—especially for a 1995 studio comedy. Take Christian, for example. I remember enough about the ’90s to know how rare it was to see an openly gay character who wasn’t reduced to a punchline. But Clueless doesn’t mock him, it celebrates him. Christian is stylish, witty, into old movies and jazz records, and when Cher realizes he’s not into her, she doesn’t spiral or make it weird. She moves on, and their friendship stays intact. That kind of casual acceptance feels quietly groundbreaking for the time—and deeply in tune with the values Gen Z embraces today.

But to my daughter? None of it read as revolutionary. It just read as normal. Which is maybe the biggest sign of how far things have come. Gen Z has grown up with more queer visibility in mainstream media (not nearly enough, but way more than we had), and so Christian’s subplot just fits. It doesn’t need to be “a moment.” It just is. And that, in itself, feels like progress.

Class Satire Hits Harder in 2025

When I was a kid, I didn’t think much about wealth gaps or social inequality—and I’m not sure I would’ve picked up on how sharply the high school classic skewers Beverly Hills privilege. But Gen Z? They notice. They’ve grown up in a world of wealth inequality, influencer flex culture, and billionaires tweeting through societal collapse. So when Cher debates grades with her teachers, or gives speeches about “the Haitians,” or floats through life in a bubble of luxury, it hits differently.

My daughter wasn’t judging Cher, but she was fully aware of how out of touch she is at times. And that’s part of the genius of the movie. It lets Cher be a little clueless (sorry), but it also gives her space to grow. That balance of satirical bite and actual heart makes it more than just a teen comedy. It’s a time capsule and a mirror.

But watching it with my daughter made me realize I hadn’t missed it—I’d just been waiting for the right context. Gen Z, of all groups, might actually be the perfect audience for this movie. They get the jokes, understand the subtext, and come to it with fresh eyes and cultural fluency.

Plus, let’s be honest—Paul Rudd still looks exactly the same. The man doesn’t age. So the movie doesn’t even feel that old. It’s one of the best free movies streaming online, so if you haven’t seen it, check it out on Tubi or with your Hulu subscription. You won’t be disappointed.

Clueless has stood the test of time, being worthy of watching over and over (or perhaps for the first time?) after three decades, and we apparently have Amy Heckerling to thank for that. Alicia Silverstone revealed why the writer/director had trouble selling the script to studios, saying:

Excuse me?! I am totally buggin’ over this, and my teenage self is officially offended. I know a lot has changed in 30 years, but you’re telling me that in 1995, studios were not willing to bet on a young woman to lead their movies? Had they not heard of Molly Ringwald? Drew Barrymore? Julia Roberts?

Looking back at the best high school movies from the ‘80s and ‘90s, it’s true that most of them — and some of the greatest movies of the ‘90s in general — either centered around male characters (Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, for example), a romance featuring male and female leads (like Dirty Dancing), or ensembles like the Brat Pack in The Breakfast Club and Sixteen Candles (though I’d still argue Molly Ringwald was the star of those).

It’s a little mind-blowing to think Clueless was expected by many to fail, especially knowing how iconic it is now, but the important thing is that Amy Heckerling and co. got it done. Now, 30 years later, Alicia Silverstone is set to executive produce and star in a Clueless TV follow-up, with Heckerling signed on as an EP as well.

What's old is new again, and that feels like an eternal truth when it comes to the 1990s, thanks to projects like the horror-comedy Y2K The day-glo era is returning in one of its most gloriously wonderful forms yet, with Alicia Silverstone officially tapped to reprise the role of Cher Horowitz for a long-awaited TV follow-up to 1995's pop-comedy classic Clueless, simply one of the best of the decade.

Amazingly enough, this isn't just a case of a star putting their name on a knockoff for an easy payday, and Silverstone is reportedly set to both star and executive produce the new project, which is being developed through CBS Studios and Universal TV. Should it get ordered to series, would eventually stream for fans with Peacock subscriptions, but the platform is holding off on that for now.

According to Deadline, the film's writer/director Amy Heckerling and its producer Robert Lawrence are also back on board as executive producers. Spearheading the creative side will be Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, who know a thing or two about both teen-centric stories and cross-media revivals and reboots. They've worked on Gossip Girl, Dynasty, and Nancy Drew, among others, and are also behind the scenes on the upcoming Legally Blonde prequel TV show Elle, whose star was handpicked by Reese Witherspoon. Rounding out the team will be Dollface creator Jordan Weiss.

This news has be buggin' in all the most positive ways, and it immediately brings to mind some things I'd love to see in a modern-day Clueless show. I'll stick with just a couple, even as I continue pondering while waiting to hear about other returning co-stars. Speaking of...

Cher And Dionne Being BFFs With Amber Now

Tragically, one of Clueless' most irreplaceable elements is Brittany Murphy's newbie-turned-hottie Tai, with the actress having passed away back in 2009 at just 32 years old. And while I can easily imagine the creative team inventing a new adult friend for Cher (and presumably Stacey Dash's Dionne) to hang out with, but the already fabulous Elisa Donovan would be a fabulous choice to step into that third-friend spot as quasi-rival Amber Mariens.

Sure, they weren't exactly close in high school. but as it usually goes with social enemies, they shared way more in common than differences, and I can imagine that those more childish viewpoints might fade away over time. Since this is one of the most fashion-celebratory movies ever, I really just want to see Cher and Amber's clothing choices sharing the screen as often as possible.

I Would Love Flashbacks To The '90s With The Actors Still Playing Their Younger Selves

I think it would be glorious if Clueless is set in the modern day, but goes into flashback-mode to fill in a lot of the gaps from Cher's life that audiences haven't been privy to. But since we already know what all these characters looked like when they were younger, I wouldn't want to see completely different actors in those roles. Instead, in the style of PEN 15 and Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp, I think Alicia Silverstone and other returning cast members should 100% just play the younger parts, too.

Would this all be a veiled attempt at making jokes about how young Paul Rudd still looks despite 30 years having passed since the movie came out? It's not not that. But that's not the whole purpose here, since Rudd was already in First Day of Camp and has played into that observation quite a bit already in more recent years. Still, it'd be great, especially if 84-year-old Dan Hedaya would be back as Cher's father.

I get another part of it would be seeing way more instantly iconic 1990s outfits on TV on a regular basis. So here's hoping the in-development series nails its costume crew.

Just to throw a last-minute request in, I'd also really want some kind of follow-up about this line from Breckin Meyers' Travis, one of Clueless' best quotes, about generational music preferences:

There are plenty of lesser-remembered '90s shows that I'd love to see a return from one day, so if Clueless does indeed get ordered up and crushes out with fans, maybe it'll usher in another wave of throwback projects.

There's a growing worry on the internet surrounding the star of one of the best '90s teen movies, Alicia Silverstone. In one of the more bizarre celebrity stories in recent memory, many are looking for updates on the actress after she made a viral video of eating a random fruit some believe could have been poisonous and fatal. It's a wild story with an even wilder video, given the context.

The video starts with Silverstone, an actress with a long list of work to watch if you liked her in her breakout Clueless, filming a video for her TikTok account on the street in London. In the video, she asks her followers for help identifying a fruit that she picked up off the ground. She then points the camera to a bush behind a gate in someone's front yard and notes that while she thought it was a tomato, it tastes like a pepper. A look into Jerusalem Cherry's on PoisonsInfo.Health provided more information on the fruit, which looks and tastes similar to a cherry tomato. Once ingested, the fruit can cause fever, sweating, vomiting, increased heart rate, stomach pain, and headaches. These symptoms can take several hours to occur but can last for days. There's also a note that death has been reported for those who ingest it, with no specific amount given as to how much could be fatal.

That said, I don't wish to be an alarmist here. We don't know for sure what type of fruit Alicia Silverstone ingested, and it was only a very small bite. The actress might just be focusing more on other things like her passions as an activist rather than browsing the internet. Handling fame as a celebrity can be hard, and I can imagine I wouldn't want to spend most of my day looking up things about myself.

Here's hoping that we'll get an update from Alicia Silverstone in the coming days, and maybe some confirmation about whether or not she did eat a poisonous fruit or not. If she did, I'd wager it's going to replace her biggest regret of giving away all her clothes from Clueless. Still, I can't imagine that it was any more uncomfortable than working on Batman and Robin.

Sure, the movie about a young drifter finding her place in Las Vegas’ showgirl scene is considered a cult classic years later, but there’s a reason we didn’t see too much of Berkley on the big screen after this one.

Batman & Robin (Alicia Silverstone)

Alicia Silverstone was one of the “it” girls of ‘90s cinema thanks to iconic performances in the likes of Clueless, The Crush, and all those Aerosmith videos, so it only seemed natural for her to land one of the lead roles in Batman & Robin. Unfortunately for Silverstone, and everyone else involved, the movie was abysmal and resulted in a complete reboot of the franchise, one that wouldn’t arrive until Christopher Nolan’s Batman Begins debuted nearly a decade later.

The Master Of Disguise (Dana Carvey)

Both before and after his SNL run, Dana Carvey appeared in classics like This Is Spinal Tap and Wayne’s World. That success would run dry with the 2002 release of The Master of Disguise, a movie that showcased Carvey’s zany characters, but not much else. 

Rollerball (Chris Klein)

Remember when Chris Klein seemed like a star in the making after great performances in Election and American Pie? Well, that was all ruined with the 2002 release of Rollerball, a remake of a better and more cohesive ‘70s movie of the same name. 

Norbit (Eddie Murphy)

Some of Eddie Murphy’s best movies were those where he played multiple characters, but Norbit is no Coming to America or The Nutty Professor. This 2007 comedy saw Murphy play an unhappily married couple and was received so poorly that people are still not convinced it didn't cost him an Oscar for his Dreamgirls performance.

Superman Returns (Brandon Routh)

It’s not like Brandon Routh never acted again after playing the titular hero in Superman Returns, but it’s safe to say his career never reached great heights after the 2006 movie either. He was great as Todd Ingram in Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, but Routh hasn’t had a remarkable go of it after having such a grand start.

It’s not Ahmed Best’s fault Star Wars Episode I – The Phantom Menace was so bad. It’s not Ahmed Best’s fault Jar Jar Binks has become one of the most detested characters in the galaxy far, far away. And it’s not Ahmed Best’s fault his career was ruined by the 1999 prequel film. 

In The Cut (Meg Ryan)

Meg Ryan was coming off a string of appearing in some of the best romantic comedies of all time when she took on a more dramatic role in the 2003 thriller, In the Cut. But for some reason, Jane Campion’s thriller about a woman getting wrapped up in a series of murders just didn’t work.

Battlefield Earth (John Travolta)

Battlefield Earth, with all of its Dutch angles, terrible lines, and over-the-top performances was so bad that it canceled out all the goodwill John Travolta earned with Pulp Fiction not even a decade earlier.

Soul Man (C. Thomas Howell)

E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, The Outsiders, and  Red Dawn all made C. Thomas Howell one of the brightest young Hollywood stars in the early-to-mid ‘80s, but then came Soul Man, a movie in which he wore blackface. Howell’s been in scores of movies since, but most are direct-to-video or bargain bin material.

Son Of The Mask (Jamie Kennedy)

A sequel no one wanted, Son of the Mask brought in Jamie Kennedy to try and recapture the energy of Jim Carrey more than a decade earlier. Despite his best efforts, the Malibu’s Most Wanted and Scream star just couldn’t do it (maybe the script is to blame), and he never really rebounded. 

Sahara (Matthew McConaughey)

Though not Matthew McConaughey’s worst movie, Sahara is far from being his best. Released nearly a decade before the Dallas Buyers Club and True Detective star won all kinds of awards during the peak of the “McConaissance,” this 2005 dud was one of the straws that broke the camel’s back.

Abduction (Taylor Lautner)

Remember when Taylor Lautner seemed like one of the biggest stars on the planet and then abruptly disappeared? Well, we probably have Abduction, his 2011 action thriller to blame for that. Though he would have a few movies after the Twilight saga ended the next year, but Grown Ups 2 and The Ridiculous 6 finished off what Abduction started.

John Carter (Taylor Kitsch)

John Carter was supposed to be the biggest movie and Taylor Kitsch was going to become the biggest action star, but neither happened after this 2012 box office disaster happened. The Friday Night Lights star would show up some more on the small screen in the years that followed with True Detective Season 2 and the bonkers Waco limited series.

The Godfather Part III (Sofia Coppola)

Before becoming one of the big filmmakers of her time and crafting movies like Lost in Translation, Marie Antoinette, and Priscilla, Sofia Coppola began as an actress, appearing in many films by her father, Francis Ford Coppola. But that acting career pretty much came to an end following the release of The Godfather Part III, in which she replaced Winona Ryder and was then torn apart by critics.

Josie And The Pussycats (Rachael Leigh Cook)

In the late ‘90s, Rachael Leigh Cook became a massive star thanks to her take on Laney Boggs in She’s All That. But then came the 2001 adaptation of Josie and the Pussycats, a movie so bad that no one was safe from its fallout outside of Rosario Dawson and Parker Posey.

The Postman (Kevin Costner)

Kevin Costner was on top of the world when he decided to direct and star in The Postman. But unlike Dances with Wolves, which earned him multiple Oscars and a ton of praise, this 1997 sci-fi epic didn’t impress anyone and set the actor back a bit. He’s since rebounded, but it’s not hard to imagine “what if” in this case.

After Earth (Jaden Smith)

With memorable performances in The Pursuit of Happyness and The Karate Kid, Jaden Smith seemed like the next second-generation star to take over Hollywood. But then came After Earth, a forgettable (at best) sci-fi thriller alongside his dad, Will Smith. 

Pinocchio (Roberto Benigni)

For a while there, it seemed like Roberto Benigni couldn’t do anything wrong as both an actor and filmmaker. Well, that all changed with his 2002 adaptation of Pinocchio, specifically the English dub, which earned a stunning 0% score on Rotten Tomatoes. He’s only appeared in a handful of movies since, including the 2019 adaptation of Carlo Collodi’s classic tale.

The Passion Of The Christ (Jim Caviezel)

Though he’ll always be recognizable thanks to his portrayal of Jesus in Mel Gibson’s The Passion of the Christ, Jim Caviezel’s career was never the same after this historic film. He’s still making movies, but not on the same level as The Thin Red Line, The Rock, or G.I. Jane, though his run on Person of Interest was impressive.

Cutthroat Island (Matthew Modine)

A few years before the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise took the pirate genre to new heights, Matthew Modine starred in 1995’s Cutthroat Island, a movie that would prove to be detrimental to his career for years to come. Modine would later find success again after working on shows like Weeds and Stranger Things, but it would take many years to get there.

Catwoman (Halle Berry)

Halle Berry was an Oscar-winning actress when she took on the lead role in Catwoman, which is often considered one of the worst superhero movies of all time. And while it would take a few years for the stink to wash off, Berry did have some fun with the experience and even accepted her own Razzy.

The Lone Ranger (Johnny Depp)

The Lone Ranger somehow received an Oscar nomination, which doesn’t make sense considering it stopped Armie Hammer from becoming a massive action star and cooled off Johnny Depp’s incredible box office run. Aside from Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Depp hasn’t had a whole lot of success since.

The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen (Sean Connery)

Sean Connery famously retired from acting after appearing in The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, which is a shame because the late James Bond actor’s swan song was out of tune and off-key, to say the least. This abysmal book-to-screen adaptation of one of the best graphic novels of the 20th century is often forgotten 20-plus years after its release, and it’s probably for the better.

Welcome To Mooseport (Gene Hackman)

Gene Hackman has had one of the best careers in Hollywood history, but that all came to an end after the release of Welcome to Mooseport. Hackman, who seems to be living a quiet and reclusive life these days, hasn’t been on screen since this 2004 comedy starring Ray Romano. Though not the worst movie ever made, this box office and critical dud didn’t do anyone any favors.

Howard The Duck (Lea Thompson)

An ‘80s movie that has not stood the test of time, Howard the Duck is one of those comic book movies that came out before Hollywood figured things out when it came to the genre. Though Robin Williams jumped ship and salvaged his career, Lea Thompson wasn’t as lucky and went through a tough stage before finally rebounding.

Freddy Got Fingered (Tom Green)

Freddy Got Fingered was never supposed to be a good movie, but Tom Green’s bonkers big-screen gross-fest was enough to turn people off to the idea of the MTV personality and prankster ever getting a large sum of cash ever again. Those who have seen it know why, and those who haven’t should be warned.

Chairman Of The Board (Carrot Top)

Carrot Top is still making the rounds as a prop comedian, but the eccentric showman has not been given the lead role in a movie since the disaster of Chairman of the Board. Forgettable even by ‘90s standards, this movie was made for an audience of one: its star.

Boat Trip (Cuba Gooding Jr.)

Cuba Gooding Jr. in the ‘90s: Boyz n the Hood, A Few Good Men, Jerry Maguire, As Good as It Gets. Cuba Gooding Jr. in the 2000s: Rat Race, Snow Dogs, Boat Trip. That last film was tasteless, awkward, and just about killed the Oscar winner’s career.

Corky Ramano (Chris Katan)

Though not everyone from SNL can become a Will Ferrell, Kristen Wiig, or Bill Murray, it at least seemed like Chris Katan would find some success outside of Studio 8H. However, he had to go make Corky Ramano, which is probably the worst comedy to come from the group.

The Great Dictator (Charlie Chaplin)

The Great Dictator is a great movie, and perhaps one of the best of Charlie Chaplin’s career. However, it now has a legacy of poking fun at Adolf Hitler during a time in which the Nazi leader was systematically exterminating tens of millions of innocent souls across the Atlantic.

Sometimes, a character and a project come around that impacts the zeitgeist deeply, and when that happens, the role becomes permanently attached to an actor’s legacy. This list includes over 30 actors from some of the greatest movies and TV shows who will forever be remembered for one role. 

Daniel Radcliffe – Harry Potter, Harry Potter 

While Daniel Radcliffe’s list of best movies is long and notable – with entries like Swiss Army Man and Weird: The Al Yankovic Story – he will always be known first and foremost as The Boy Who Lived. The actor took on the titular role of Harry Potter when he was 12 years old, and he’s the face of a franchise of movies that have raised countless people. So, while he is beloved for lots of things, nothing will ever be as big and prominent as his role in the Wizarding World.  

Aaron Paul – Jesse Pinkman, Breaking Bad

Breaking Bad and its cast truly took the world by storm, and the guys leading the charge, Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul, became certified legends because of it. It’s hard to separate Paul from Jesse Pinkman, and the impact he made with his fellow ensemble members in this incredible show.  

Sarah Michelle Gellar – Buffy, Buffy the Vampire Slayer

When you play one of the greatest TV characters of all time, obviously, it’ll be the thing you’re most remembered for. For Sarah Michelle Gellar, she’ll always be known as the legendary Buffy the Vampire Slayer after playing the empowering and strong titular character for seven seasons in the late ‘90s and early ‘00s. 

Robert Downey Jr. – Iron Man/Tony Stark, Iron Man

Yes, Robert Downey Jr. won an Oscar for Oppenheimer, and yes, he’s well known for roles in other films, like Sherlock Holmes. However, when you single-handedly help successfully start a cinematic universe like the one Marvel has and star in nine of those projects, yes, you are going to be known for playing that character forever.

So, when it comes to RDJ’s legacy, his role as Iron Man/Tony Stark in the Marvel Cinematic Universe will be the thing he’s remembered forever for.  

Elijah Wood – Frodo, Lord of the Rings

Like Daniel Radcliffe and Harry Potter, so many grew up with Elijah Wood and Lord of the Rings. His portrayal of the hobbit Frodo Baggins was incredibly impactful, and while he has gone on to play a variety of memorable roles, there’s no denying the power of the Rings. 

Carrie Fisher – Princess Leia, Star Wars

You can’t talk about the late great Carrie Fisher and her career without mentioning Princess Leia and the Star Wars movies. She inspired a whole generation as her intelligent, stubborn and empowering princess, and the five films she was a part of helped define sci-fi in film. 

Leonard Nimoy – Spock, Star Trek

Live long and prosper, my friend. Forever and always the legendary Leonard Nimoy will be known for originating the role of the half-Vulcan, half-human Spock in Star Trek. 

Christopher Reeve – Superman, Superman

Christopher Reeve’s legacy is rooted in him playing Superman in four films. Even the documentary that came out about his life in 2024 leans into his time playing Clark Kent, as it’s called Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story. 

James Gandolfini – Tony Soprano, The Sopranos

The Sopranos is considered one of the greatest shows on television, and James Gandolfini’s performance as Tony Soprano is a major reason why. The actor won three Emmys for his performance in the series, and his name, face and voice are synonymous with the beloved HBO drama. 

Alicia Silverstone – Cher Horowitz, Clueless

When I think of Alicia Silverstone, I immediately think of Cher, because she is and always will be best known for her iconic performance in one of the best movies of the ‘90s, Clueless. 

Sigourney Weaver – Ellen Ripley, Alien

Sigourney Weaver changed the sci-fi game when she starred in Alien. Ellen Ripley is a magnificent and strong leading woman in this sci-fi horror flick, which in 1979, was not something we saw very often. 

Jim Parsons – Sheldon Cooper, The Big Bang Theory

“Bazinga!” Will always follow Jim Parsons, and that’s because of his tenure playing Sheldon Cooper in the CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory. The actor has four Emmys for playing the role, he starred in all 280 episodes of the comedy, and his character even inspired a spinoff, Young Sheldon, which came to an end in 2024 after its own seven-season run. 

Kit Harington – Jon Snow, Game of Thrones

The world was introduced to Kit Harington because of Game of Thrones, and he will always be remembered as the heroic Jon Snow. His role in the GOT cast was vital, and over the years, as we watched him battle it out at The Wall and work toward saving Westeros from winter, it was impossible not to fall for him. Now, while Harington has been in numerous other projects since then, it’s impossible not to think of him as this epic fantasy hero first. 

Emma Watson – Hermione Granger, Harry Potter

These days, Emma Watson doesn’t act anymore, and she’s killing with her gin company Renais. However, she’ll also always be remembered as a wonderful actress who brought life to the beloved witch Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter films. 

The Entire Cast of Friends

Yes, the cast of Friends all went on to have successful careers after the NBC sitcom. However, Jennifer Aniston, David Schwimmer, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry and Courteney Cox are best known as Rachel, Ross, Phoebe, Joey, Chandler and Monica, and they always will be, because they’re the ones with a hit TV show. 

Ralph Macchio – Daniel LaRusso, The Karate Kid

After three Karate Kid movies, and six seasons of its highly successful spinoff Cobra Kai, you’d be silly not to think that Ralph Macchio will always be remembered for playing Daniel LaRusso. 

Linda Hamilton – Sarah Connor, The Terminator

Linda Hamilton played Sarah Connor in The Terminator, Terminator 2: Judgment Day and Terminator: Dark Fate. She’s beloved for portraying the protagonist in this sci-fi franchise, and she’s synonymous with this series that she starred in alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger. 

Chris Hemsworth – Thor, Thor

While many Marvel actors have become synonymous with their characters, one who really stands out is Chris Hemsworth and Thor. Physically, the Australian actor perfectly embodies the God of Thunder, and throughout his time playing the character he added an unexpected sense of humor to the role – especially post-Thor: Ragnarok – that he’ll be remembered forever for. 

Kristen Stewart – Bella Swan, Twilight

Twilight, the debate about Team Edward vs. Team Jacob and Kristen Stewart’s Bella Swan took over the zeitgeist between 2008-2012. To this day, while she’s gone on to star in incredible films like Spencer and Love Lies Bleeding, the role that made her a household name is one of the parts she’ll always be remembered for. 

Heath Ledger – The Joker, The Dark Knight

Heath Ledger is widely regarded as the best Joker, because of his commanding performance as the legendary Batman villain in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight. This movie was also one of his last before his untimely death, and he won a posthumous Oscar for his incredible take on the infamous big bad. 

Millie Bobby Brown – Eleven, Stranger Things

Millie Bobby Brown has made quite a few successful films, like the Enola Holmes movies. However, it’s undeniable that the role that will define her career is Eleven in Stranger Things. She was only 12 when she started playing the mysterious super-powered human, and over the course of the show’s five-season run, both she and the ensemble of the Netflix series, have become pop culture icons because of the show. 

William Shatner – Captain Kirk, Star Trek

If you take a look at the four projects listed at the top of William Shatner’s IMDb page, all of them are Star Trek movies where he played Captain Kirk. The man starred in seven films and a long-running TV show as the beloved captain, so of course it’s what he’s best known for. 

Michael J. Fox – Marty McFly, Back to the Future

From Family Ties to Teen Wolf, Michael J. Fox and his shows and movies were ‘80s staples. However, there’s no denying that the project he’ll always be remembered for is Robert Zemeckis’ Back to the Future. To this day, the project is considered one of the best ‘80s movies, and Fox is still beloved for playing the charismatic, funny and heroic Marty McFly. 

Reese Witherspoon – Elle Woods, Legally Blonde 

In the over two decades since Legally Blonde’s release, so many have been inspired to pursue their dreams and wear lots and lots of pink. That’s because Elle Woods truly left an amazing mark on the zeitgeist, and it’s because of Reese Witherspoon’s heartfelt, funny and preppy performance as the incredible lawyer-in-training. 

As Elle Woods would say, “What like it’s hard” to create one of the best characters and movies of the 2000s? 

Jon Hamm – Don Draper, Mad Men

While Jon Hamm is a wicked comedic actor, and he’s starred in a myriad of fun movies, nothing will ever come close to Mad Men. For 92 episodes, Hamm led the Mad Men cast as Don Draper – which he took an Emmy home for in 2015 – and he’ll always be recognized for playing the charismatic creative director of Sterling Cooper.

Judy Garland – Dorothy, The Wizard of Oz

The Wizard of Oz is a film that has raised generations of kids since 1939, and it’s still a family classic. So, when you lead a beloved musical like that, as Judy Garland did, and it remains relevant and loved for over eight decades, obviously, the role you’ll always be known for is that one. 

David Tennant – The Doctor, Doctor Who

While everyone who has played the titular timelord on Doctor Who is known for that role specifically, David Tennant is a fan-favorite Doctor, and it’s single-handedly the project he’s best known for. While he’s dabbled in many other critically acclaimed projects, like Good Omens and Broadchurch, he is and always will be the beloved actor who graced our screens as the Tenth and Fourteenth Doctors first and foremost. 

Anthony Hopkins – Hannibal Lecter, The Silence of the Lambs

Silence of the Lambs is one of the greatest horror movies of all time, and it’s in part thanks to Anthony Hopkins' truly terrifying cannibal Hannibal Lecter. In fact, his character became so popular that it inspired three more movies and a TV show. 

Sarah Jessica Parker – Carrie Bradshaw, Sex and the City

I’m sure Carrie Bradshaw inspired many women to become writers, and I know she left many of us fantasizing about living out our lives in New York City. Sarah Jessica Parker truly slayed the role, and her own sense of style and charismatic personality meshed perfectly with Carrie. Along with playing the writer in the OG series Sex and the City, SJP has also portrayed her in two movies and the series And Just Like That. 

Emilia Clarke – Daenerys Targaryen, Game of Thrones 

Khaleesi, Mother of Dragons, Daenerys Targaryen, those are all the names Emilia Clarke’s dragon rider went by in Game of Thrones, and she gave an absolutely commanding performance as her. While her ending wasn’t what most wanted, there’s no denying how amazing it was to see Daenerys rise from a woman trying to survive to a powerful leader, and that’s because of how brilliant Clarke was in the role. 

Mark Hamill – Luke Skywalker, Star Wars

He was the face of the original trilogy, and you can’t think about Star Wars without thinking about Mark Hamill and Luke Skywalker. While the actor is well-known for other roles, especially in the world of voice acting, his most prominent part has to be this. 

Gal Gadot – Wonder Woman, Wonder Woman

Sadly, there aren’t many superhero movies led by women. However, luckily, we do have a few wonderful ones, and that includes Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman. She played the beloved hero with so much grace, poise and strength, and she’ll 100% always be remembered for it. 

Obviously, while all these actors have played other prominent roles in well-known movies and shows, there’s no question that when we consider their legacies, these parts will be the first ones we think about. They’re that iconic, and we have these performers to thank for them. 

There are some actors whose entire careers are defined by their most iconic role or by their best performance (which are not always one and the same). There are also some actors who really only have one well-known role or acclaimed performance to their name, while the majority of their career continues to live in obscurity or even ridicule. The following are some notable examples of actors who never really got to shine beyond that movie or TV show that clicked.

Sam Worthington (The Avatar Movies)

Sam Worthington's performance as Jake Sully in 2009's Avatar and Avatar: The Way of Water from 2022 is not exactly "acclaimed." However, James Cameron's blockbuster sci-fi franchise is the only thing on the actor's resume that has managed to make a substantial connection with audiences and can be called a rousing success.

Hayden Christensen (Shattered Glass)

Playing Anakin Skywalker in the two latter installments of George Lucas' Star Wars prequel trilogy has earned Hayden Christensen equal amounts of fame and ridicule that has haunted him most of his career. That is because not enough people know about 2003's intense journalism drama Shattered Glass, in which he gives his best performance as real-life fraudulent reporter Stephen Glass.

Tom Arnold (True Lies)

For years, Tom Arnold's claim to fame was his marriage to Roseanne Barr and, when reviewing his filmography, it remains what he is best known for to this day. Yet, he does have the honor of playing Arnold Schwarzenegger's right-hand man in True Lies, a role he almost did not get, if not for the insistence of writer and director James Cameron.

Brandon Routh (Superman Returns)

Brandon Routh was relatively unknown when he was cast as Clark Kent in 2006’s Superman Returns — a role that should have earned immediate entry to the A-list. While he does have an amusing reputation for playing multiple comic book characters — including Todd Ingram in the Scott Pilgrim vs. the World cast — his one-time donning the old red and blues remains the peak of his fame.

Linda Blair (The Exorcist)

One of the top horror movie Scream Queens of all time is undeniably Linda Blair for her Academy Award-nominated role as Regan MacNeil in 1973’s The Exorcist. However, the demonically possessed 12-year-old is still the only character most mainstream audiences associate with the actor.

Stephen Baldwin (The Usual Suspects)

Stephen Baldwin has a scene-stealing turn as Michael McManus in the classic 1995 crime thriller, The Usual Suspects. However, because his remaining credits have never quite lived up to that performance — or the film itself — most would call him an unusual suspect for mainstream success these days.

Haley Joel Osment (The Sixth Sense)

Haley Joel Osment is still a steadily working actor, appearing in notable films like Kevin Smith’s Tusk and hit TV shows like The Boys. Yet, any time he does show up onscreen, we would not be surprised if he still regularly identified as “the kid who saw dead people in 1999’s The Sixth Sense.”

Lacey Chabert (Mean Girls)

You could argue that Lacey Chabert really did come close to making “fetch” happen with her standout role in 2004’s Mean Girls as Gretchen Wieners. While she has made a name for herself elsewhere with voice acting and leading several Hallmark Channel originals, the gossipy plastic is still the singular defining moment of her career.

Steven Seagal (Under Siege)

Even most of the fans who consider Steven Seagal to be one of the top action movie stars of the ‘90s might agree that he really only has one true quality film to his name: Under Siege. Both a critical and commercial success, director Andrew Davis’ Oscar-nominated 1992 thriller stars Seagal as a former Navy SEAL serving as a cook on a battleship taken over by terrorists.

Paul Hogan (Crocodile Dundee)

Can you name another character played by Paul Hogan who is not the title character from the 1986 fish-out-of-water movie classic, Crocodile Dundee? The eponymous Outback hunter was also the brainchild of the Australian actor, whose career has been almost completely overshadowed by the role.

Roddy Piper (They Live)

To be fair, the late “Rowdy” Roddy Piper’s main claim to fame was professional wrestling, but his subsequent film career was nowhere near close to on par with, say, Dwayne Johnson or John Cena. At least he can say that he was the star of one of John Carpenter’s best movies, They Live, in the memorable role of an impromptu alien hunter, John Nada.

Alicia Silverstone (Clueless)

Had 1997’s Batman & Robin been a hit, Alicia Silverstone could have been one of the best Batgirl actors ever and her career could have flourished from it. Instead, her breakthrough film role as Cher Horowitz in 1995’s Clueless is the single performance she is most acclaimed and recognized for.

Macaulay Culkin (Home Alone)

Macaulay Culkin’s career beyond child stardom has certainly had its highlights, such as his role in Party Monster, his appearance on American Horror Story Season 10, and his podcast, The Bunny Ears Podcast. However, after all these years, it is still difficult to see him as anyone other than the young, mischievous Kevin McCallister from the Home Alone movies.

Rupert Grint (The Harry Potter Movies)

We do not mean to discredit Rupert Grint’s performances in the Snatch TV show, M. Night Shyamalan’s Servant, or anything else he has done outside of the Harry Potter movies. However, the British actor will always be Ron Weasley in our hearts.

Jessica Alba (Sin City)

Anyone who does not love actor and entrepreneur Jessica Alba probably has not seen her performance as exotic dancer Nancy Callahan in 2005’s Sin City, which is the single most acclaimed title in her filmography. She did earn a Golden Globe nomination for a breakthrough role in Dark Angel, but that short-lived sci-fi series is largely forgotten these days.

Robert Englund (A Nightmare On Elm Street)

Playing Freddy Krueger in the A Nightmare on Elm Street franchise made Robert Englund a horror movie icon and earned him a long career of countless other spooky roles. Yet, have any of his subsequent credits — horror or otherwise — been nearly as popular as the grotesque, razor-glove-wielding boogeyman? Maybe in his dreams.

Edward Furlong (Terminator 2: Judgment Day)

Edward Furlong made a stunning acting debut in the pivotal role of a teenage John Connor in one of the greatest action movies of all time, 1991’s Terminator 2: Judgment Day. Unfortunately, his career never reached the same level of prowess or popularity again, which can be partially attributed to his history of substance abuse.

Rachael Leigh Cook (She's All That)

Actor and model Rachael Leigh Cook has had a steady career all her life. However, none of her credits have quite stood the test of time like the 1999 teen movie favorite, She’s All That, which spawned a Netflix original gender-swapped remake, He’s All That, in which she appeared in a new role.

Anthony Perkins (Psycho)

Anthony Perkins is considered one the biggest Hollywood stars of his time, but only for one role in particular: Norman Bates in one of the greatest horror movies of all time — Alfred Hitchcock’s 1960 classic, Psycho. He would actually reprise the murderous momma’s boy and motel manager twice more in 1983’s Psycho II and Psycho III, the latter of which he also directed three years later.

David Schwimmer (Friends)

Much of the Friends cast managed to outlive their roles on the hit sitcom with versatile projects that helped them avoid being typecast. We cannot quite say the same about David Schwimmer, whose distinct portrayal of Ross Gellar seems to follow him everywhere he goes.

Jaden Smith (The Pursuit Of Happyness)

Seven-year-old Jaden Smith made a promising debut as the onscreen son of his real-life father, Will Smith, in 2006’s The Pursuit of Happyness, but very few of his roles since have made a genuine impression on critics and audiences. That being said, the older he got, his acting roles became less frequent as he focused more on his music career.

Carrie Henn (Aliens)

If you ever wondered what happened to Newt from Aliens, she became one of the many child stars who walked away from Hollywood, but did so quicker than most, as the 1986 sci-fi classic is her only acting credit. So, in this case, we can call Carrie Henn — who went on to become a teacher — an acting “one-hit-wonder” by choice.

Alex Winter (The Bill & Ted Movies)

Alex Winter had such astonishing chemistry with Keanu Reeves as the dim-witted, titular heroes of the Bill & Ted movies. Yet, while Reeves climbed up the A-list, Winter never really found a role as popular as Bill S. Preston, Esq. He would find some success working as director in film and TV, however.

Fran Drescher (The Nanny)

Actor and comedian Fran Drescher earned rousing success when she co-created the hit sitcom The Nanny, in which she also starred as Fran Fine. The boisterous character remains her most famous role to date, as Drescher is better known today for being elected President of SAG-AFTRA in 2021.

Adam West (Batman)

The late Adam West is, undeniably, one of the most legendary live-action Batman actors, having played Bruce Wayne in the classic 1960s TV show, its feature-length spin-off, and two animated films decades later. However, he is really the only one in that club so far who can say that playing Batman is the singular defining role of his career.

Jon Heder (Napoleon Dynamite)

As the title hero of 2004’s Napoleon Dynamite, Jon Heder gave one of the most legendarily bizarre and uniquely funny performances in a comedy movie for its time, if not all time. The success of the indie sleeper hit would garner more roles for the actor, but none that earned nearly the same acclaim or notoriety.

Frankie Muniz (Malcolm In The Middle)

Playing the fourth-wall-breaking title role of Malcolm in the Middle in the early 2000s made Frankie Muniz one of the top child stars of his time, but his subsequent success later in life was decidedly hit or miss. He still acts to this day but has also taken up a career in NASCAR racing.

Patrick Fugit (Almost Famous)

Whatever happened to Patrick Fugit — the actor who launched his career in 2000 by leading the Almost Famous cast as young, aspiring music reporter William Miller? There’s a good chance you have seen him in one of his many credits over the years — such as Gone Girl or 2022’s Babylon — but just failed to recognize him. 

Katherine Heigl (Grey's Anatomy)

Katherine Heigl had a relatively successful run in movies, especially as the female lead of 2007’s Knocked Up, which she famously spoke negatively of. Said comments would actually have a negative impact on her career and, thus, her Emmy-winning role on in the Grey’s Anatomy cast as Dr. Izzie Stevens in the mid-2000s is still her most famous and commendable role.

Peter Ostrum (Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory)

At the end of 1971’s Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, poor Charlie Bucket becomes wealthy after the titular chocolatier (Gene Wilder) gives his factory to him. As for the actor who plays the lucky boy, Peter Ostrum, he immediately abandoned his acting career in favor of becoming a veterinarian.

Bo Derek (10)

Bo Derek is an undisputed legend in the modeling industry, but we cannot quite say the same about her acting career. She did have one acclaimed hit to her name, however, in the form of Blake Edwards’ Oscar-nominated, 1979 rom-com, 10, opposite Dudley Moore.

Justin Chatwin (War Of The Worlds)

If you are not sure who Justin Chatwin is, there are two movies we could name that could help you identify him. There is Steven Spielberg’s 2005 adaptation of War of the Worlds, in which he plays Tom Cruise’s onscreen son, and there is also 2009’s universally reviled live-action anime adaptation, Dragonball: Evolution, in which he was grossly miscast as Goku.

Some of our best horror movies have been centered around characters who just so happen to be legendary creatures of the night: vampires. And, because of the enduring popularity of these mythological bloodsuckers, not only do we also have a number of TV vamps, but many famous actors who’ve portrayed some version of the famed, usually-human-looking beasts. Here for you now are 32 actors who’ve played a vampire.

Eddie Murphy (Vampire In Brooklyn)

So many vamps have been seen on screen that even a comedy and action movie legend like Eddie Murphy has played one. The 1995 horror comedy, Vampire in Brooklyn, saw the star play the last member of a group of Caribbean vampires, who hits New York to find a mate so that he can continue his family line.

Tom Cruise (Interview With The Vampire)

Who could forget the 1994 film that gave us Tom Cruise as the captivating and cruel (And blond!) bloodthirsty fiend, Lestat de Lioncourt, from author Anne Rice’s legendary novel series, The Vampire Chronicles? Of course, it also gave us Brad Pitt’s tortured vamp, Louis, and made a star out of young Kirsten Dunst.

Dakota Fanning (The Twilight Saga: New Moon, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse)

While there are some obvious stars to add to this list, let us not forget that the cast of famous (and soon-to-be-famous) vampires in The Twilight Saga films was quite stacked. That roster included noted child star Dakota Fanning, who portrayed the villainous Volturi guard member, Jane, who was able to mentally create sensations of pain in those who she deemed worthy of punishment.

Evan Rachel Wood (True Blood)

Several vampire-focused TV shows have hit the airwaves over the past 20 or so years, so we would be remiss if we didn’t mention the HBO hit, True Blood. Many of its stars portrayed members of vamp-kind for most or all of the series’ seven seasons, but Evan Rachel Wood made an equally impressive (bloody) splash as the Vampire Queen of Louisiana, Sophie-Anne Leclerq, during her recurring guest appearances in Seasons 2-4.

Robert Pattinson (Twilight)

Back to Twilight! It’s not worth mentioning this franchise without bringing up lead romantic vamp Edward Cullen, as well as the man who brought him to life in five movies, eventuall live action Batman actor Robert Pattinson. Despite the fact that his love interest’s portrayer, Kristen Stewart, would have dumped Edward “immediately”!

Chloë Grace Moretz (Let Me In)

It’s possible that we don’t get creepier than kid vampires in movies and television shows, and that’s what we got with Chloë Grace Moretz’s Abby in the 2010 film, Let Me In. She befriends a young loner after moving into his apartment complex, but is (you guessed it) hiding nefarious purposes he could have never guessed, which end up taking his life in a most unexpected direction.

Salma Hayek (From Dusk Till Dawn)

This might be the shortest movie vampire appearance on the list, as 1996’s From Dusk Til Dawn saw Salma Hayek play the fanged exotic dancer, Santanico Pandemonium, only for about five memorable minutes that simply cannot be forgotten once witnessed.

Taika Waititi (What We Do In The Shadows)

Undead life isn’t always filled with glamorous globe-hopping adventure, gorgeous mates who can’t resist you and other perks, at least according to 2014’s What We Do in the Shadows, which concerns the rather mundane day-to-day lives of vampire roommates, of whom Taika Waititi’s uptight and nearly 400-year-old vamp, Viago, is among.

Theo James (Underworld: Awakening, Underworld: Blood Wars)

Another big screen franchise that depended on heaps of stars to populate its supernatural world is that of Underworld. Two sequels saw Theo James play the heroic vampire, David, heir to one of the main vamp covens, and lead Selene’s one steadfast ally during an important time in her journey.

Willem Dafoe (Shadow Of The Vampire)

Not many cinematic vampires are said to be based on a real person, but the one played by Willem Dafoe in 2000’s Shadow of the Vampire is. He portrayed a fictionalized version of the real Nosferatu lead actor, Max Schreck, whom the crew begins to suspect is an actual vampire because of his behavior and the strange goings-on surrounding filming.

Gerard Butler (Dracula 2000)

Speaking of vampires who are based on real people…Author Bram Stoker based his Dracula on Vlad the Impaler, and Gerard Butler played yet another version of the ever-popular character in a film from, yes, 2000. This tale sees the ancient vamp accidentally awoken by a group of thieves who find and steal his highly protected coffin, which had been watched over by generations of the Van Helsing family.

Wesley Snipes (Blade)

A Marvel character that will soon have another portrayer when the upcoming Blade reboot finally begins filming, the original action/horror trilogy famously saw Wesley Snipes take on the vampire/human hybrid titular lead, who’s a nearly unstoppable vamp hunter bent on taking down all members of the species who bit his mother and infected him with their supernatural blood while he was still in utero.

Colin Farrell (Fright Night)

If a scary and suave undead night stalker is your type, look no further than Colin Farrell’s Jerry Dandrige in 2011’s remake of the 1985 cult classic, Fright Night. He may have to eventually do battle with a couple of teenagers, but he sure looks darn good doing it.

Ethan Hawke (Daybreakers)

A movie that takes a more science-fiction approach to a world overrun by vampires is the 2009 film Daybreakers, which sees Ethan Hawke play a vamp hematologist who refuses to drink human blood and is looking for a synthetic option to their usual meal of choice that will stop humanity from being wiped out by his more brutal peers.

Luke Evans (Dracula Untold)

Again with Dracula? Why, yes! This time, Luke Evans plays a Vlad the Impaler who only becomes a vampire to have the strength, speed and ferocity to turn back an invading army in an attempt to save the people of his kingdom. Does it work out for him? Well, yes…and no.

Kate Beckinsale (Underworld)

There’s no mentioning the Underworld franchise without giving respect to the main heroine, Kate Beckinsale’s Selene. In the first film she’s a vampire looking to destroy the werewolves that killed her family, but she ends up uncovering a major secret about the two sets of creatures and falling in love with a human, instead.

Alicia Silverstone (Vamps)

This 2012 horror comedy sees Alicia Silverstone play Goody, an old vampire who tries to stay young and hip while helping her much younger bloodsucking buddy, Stacy (Krysten Ritter), get used to her powers as they try to abstain from the red stuff during their immortal and unholy (sorta) lives.

Pedro Pascal (Bloodsucking Bastards)

Ever wondered what working in an office that was slowly being overrun by vampires who care as much about the bottom line as they do about drinking blood would be like? Just watch Bloodsucking Bastards, where beloved The Last of Us cast member Pedro Pascal begins turning his employees into the titular immortals.

Jim Carrey (Once Bitten)

Jim Carrey’s first leading role came in this 1985 comedy, where he played a teen virgin turned into a vampire by an alluring, 400-year-old creature of the night, who seduced him so she could use his blood to keep her youthful appearance.

Paul Reubens (Buffy The Vampire Slayer)

In the 1992 horror comedy that eventually led to the long-running series of the same name, the late Paul Reubens starred as Amilyn, a vamp doing the bidding of a much more powerful bloodsucker who’s ruling his kind in Los Angeles.

Alexander Skarsgård (True Blood)

While HBO’s True Blood was positively filled with the undead, few of them made as much of an impact on audiences (and the lead, Sookie) as Alexander Skarsgård’s cunning and alluring (but sorta evil) 1,000-year-old Eric Northman. This also happens to be the role that really made Skarsgård famous.

David Boreanaz (Buffy, Angel)

When it comes to popular TV vampires, no one can discount the reign of David Boreanaz as evil vamp turned heroic vamp (and then sometimes evil vamp again) Angel, whom he played on Buffy the Vampire Slayer beginning with the first episode in 1997, through wrapping his run on the fifth season series finale of his own show, Angel, in 2004.

Sterling K. Brown (Supernatural)

Sterling K. Brown may best be known now for delivering heartfelt emotions as Randall Pearson on This Is Us, but for four episodes across Seasons 2 and 3 of the CW mega-hit, Supernatural, he played Hunter and dedicated vamp-hater-turned-vampire, Gordon Walker, to astounding, understandably cold-blooded effect.

Kiefer Sutherland (The Lost Boys)

Even though Kiefer Sutherland was certainly a star on the rise by the time he starred in The Lost Boys in 1987, his part as apparent vampire motorcycle gang leader David cemented his leading man qualities and turned him into a household name.

Rami Malek (The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part II)

Sure, Bohemian Rhapsody is one of the best Rami Malek movies to watch, but let’s not discount his turn as the powerful (and ancient) Egyptian vampire, Benjamin, in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part II, one of the few creatures of the night in the franchise who can directly manipulate things, with his specialty being controlling fire, water, air and earth.

Bryce Dallas Howard (The Twilight Saga: Eclipse)

Yet another actor you may have forgotten was fanged in the expansive Twilight franchise is Jurassic World star Bryce Dallas Howard. She took over the role of evil, vengeful vamp Victoria (who’s looking to kill Bella in retaliation for Edward killing her love, James) from Rachelle Lefevre, for the third movie, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse.

Tilda Swinton (Only Lovers Left Alive)

As one half of the very old vampire couple at the center of the 2013 dramedy, Only Lovers Left Alive, Tilda Swinton is a wife forced to visit the husband (played by Tom Hiddleston) she’s long been separated from once she realizes his lengthy undead existence has begun to bring him down, as she tries to force him to reevaluate the value of living forever.

Bill Nighy (Underworld, Underworld: Rise Of The Lycans)

Every good vampire needs a parental figure to show them the ropes, and for Underworld’s Selene, that role was filled by Viktor, who was portrayed by Love, Actually star Bill Nighy. His Vampire Elder turned out to be more of a threat than the heroine ever expected, though, leading to some tense moments between Selene and her mentor.

Gary Oldman (Bram Stoker's Dracula) 

Back to Drac! One of the most popular films about the character is still 1992’s Bram Stoker's Dracula, which saw eventual Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban star Gary Oldman play Vlad Dracula.

Christopher Meloni (True Blood)

Where there is one vampire there are generally enough to have a whole hierarchy among their brethren, and as with the series True Blood, sometimes we get to see what that could look like. In Season 5, Law & Order: SVU and Organized Crime star Christopher Meloni portrayed the Guardian, Roman Zimojic, who led the Vampire Authority and (ostensibly) set the rules for all vamps. Many, however, didn’t agree with his desire to have his kind fit in with human society, which caused a lot of problems for the calm, determined and deadly when challenged leader.

Nicolas Cage (Renfield)

If you guessed that this is yet another Dracula story, well, you’re sort of correct. 2023’s horror comedy, Renfield, stars Nicholas Hoult as the count’s titular long-time familiar, who’s tired of helping him kill innocent people and all the abuse he’s taken from the being who gifted him with immortality, as well as super strength and speed (when he eats bugs) 90 years prior. So, he gets help from a support group for people in codependent relationships in order to be able to live his own life again. Nicolas Cage is our Dracula here, and he’s a perfectly winking one, who still manages to be creepy and deadly.

Johnny Depp (Dark Shadows)

Johnny Depp has become known for his outrageous characters, and his Barnabas Collins is no different. The 2012 Dark Shadows film (which was based on the 1966-1971 gothic daytime drama of the same name) follows Barnabas after he’s cursed with vampirism in 1760, buried alive in a coffin, and then accidentally freed in the early 1970s. He rejoins the Collins family at the estate they still hold, while trying to keep his true nature a secret, but hijinks ensue as his past comes back to haunt them.

There was a time when music videos were as important as the radio in promoting the hottest artists and songs of the day. Back in the '80s and '90s, MTV was one of the most powerful cultural forces in the country, and that was reflected in how many stars you can spot in videos from the day. 

Sometimes, they were already huge stars, like Robin Williams and Chevy Chase, other times, they were actors looking to get their break and now, years later, we can marvel at their humble beginnings. This is a list of famous people in videos from the zenith of MTV highlights both.

Alicia Silverstone - "Cryin'"

Alicia Silverstone first got famous for starring in videos, specifically Aerosmith videos. The Clueless star appeared in three videos for the Boston rockers, the first for the song "Cryin'", then later showing up in the videos for "Amazing," alongside Dazed & Confused cast member Jason London. Silverstone's final appearance, and maybe the most famous video, was for the song "Crazy," alongside Steven Tyler's daughter, Liv Tyler. 

Courteney Cox - "Dancing In The Dark"

One of the most famous examples of a star getting her first break in a music video is, of course, Friends star Courteney Cox in the video for Bruce Springsteen's "Dancing In The Dark." The video, which came out in 1984, was directed by Brian De Palma and, according to Cox, she was one of several women Springsteen could have picked out of the audience, and it was random that he chose her. What kismit! 

Cindy Crawford - "Freedom '90"

Director David Fincher, who has had quite an amazing career in film, started in music videos. One of those videos, George Michaels' "Freedom '90," was challenging because Michaels told Fincher he wasn't going to appear in the video. Fincher decided to cast a bevy of famous supermodels to lip-sync the song, including Cindy Crawford in a bathtub. 

Eva Mendes - "Miami"

In 1998, a young actress from Miami was cast in a video for the Will Smith song, "Miami." Eva Mendes had starred in one direct-to-video movie at that point and was that actress. It would be another three years before her breakout role in Training Day. It's a brief moment in the video, as she drove her convertible next to Smith's on the causeway to Miami Beach.

In 1993, Janet Jackson was on top of the world. Her fifth album, janet. was another huge hit, selling millions of copies, partly on the strength of the single, "That's the Way Love Goes." Little did anyone know at the time that one of the extras in the video would go on to a career that eclipsed even Jackson's, a then-unknown Jennifer Lopez. 

Matt LeBlanc - "Miracle"

Bon Jovi's "Miracle" is, let's be frank, not the New Jersey legends' best work. One thing they did get right was the casting for the video. Matt LeBlanc was a young actor and model just starting out on a career, so while his job is really only to look good in this video, he certainly does. It would be a few more years before America was introduced to his comedic chops too. 

Hugh Laurie - "Walking On Broken Glass"

By the time Hugh Laurie appeared in the video for Annie Lennox's "Walking on Broken Glass" in 1992, he was already very famous in the UK. It would be a few more years until the legendary TV show House would debut in the US, making Laurie a household name on both sides of the pond. John Malkovich also stars in the video, reminding fans of his role in Dangerous Liaisons. 

Angelina Jolie - "Wondering"

Angelina Jolie was a model in Hollywood from her teen years on, so it's no wonder she would have a few videos of her resume, including The Rolling Stones' video for "Has Anybody Seen My Baby," but it is surprising to see her in a video for the Athens, GA-based jam band Widespread Panic's song "Wondering" from 1993. Jolie also appears on the cover of the band's album Everyday, which includes "Wondering."

Zooey Deschanel - "She's Got Issues"

Zooey Deschanel is as successful in music, with her duo She & Him as she is on the big screen, so of course she has an early credit in a music video. Deschanel appears with fiery red hair in the video for "She's Got Issues" by The Offspring. 

Naomi Campbell - "Is This Love"

Bob Marley died over four decades ago, but his legacy is as big as ever, with the release of the biopic One Love in 2024. Back in the day, the reggae superstar filmed a video in London for his song "Is This Love" featuring a couple of local kids, including a 7-year-old Naomi Campbell!  

Macaulay Culkin - "Black Or White"

Michael Jackson redefined what a music video could be with "Thriller" and after that, he often released short films that were much more than just a song, and often they had big stars in them. For "Black or White" in 1991, MJ brought in Macaulay Culkin and George Wendt to play father and son, for example. 

Christina Hendricks - "One Hit Wonder"

Long before Christina Hendricks hit the big time with her role in Mad Men, she was a model and struggling actor in the '90s. One of her earliest roles, way back in 1998, was in the video for "One Hit Wonder" by Everclear. Luckily for all of us, that wasn't her only hit. 

Matthew McConaughey - "Walkaway Joe"

Alright, alright, alright, we'll concede that Dazed and Confused is what made Matthew McConaughey famous, but before that, he appeared in Trisha Yearwood's video for her hit "Walkaway Joe," playing the titular character of the song. 

Wesley Snipes - "Bad"

For the second single, "Bad" from his album of the same name, Micheal Jackson teamed up with Martin Scorsese to make an 18-minute short film for the video. In the video, Jackson famously has a dance-off with his rivals in a New York subway station. One of the baddies is none other than Wesley Snipes, who only had a few credits under his belt previously. 

Patrick Swayze - "Rosanna"

Toto's song "Rosanna" is famously about Rosanna Arquette. Less well-known is that if you watch the video closely, you'll notice a familiar face as one of the West Side Story-like dancers. Patrick Swayze, one year before his big break in The Outsiders is one of the dancers. In an even cooler bit of trivia, another one of the uncredited dancers in the video is Cynthia Rhodes, who would co-star as Swayze's first dance partner, Penny, in Dirty Dancing. 

Elijah Wood - "Forever Your Girl"

Elijah Wood has been working in Hollywood forever. He started as a child actor in films like Back to the Future II and The Good Sun, but before those even, he had a part in Paula Abdul's video for "Forever Your Girl" in 1989. 

Chevy Chase - "You Can Call Me Al"

Chevy Chase was one of the biggest stars on the planet in 1986 when he starred in the video for "You Can Call Me Al" with his buddy Paul Simon. It is, no lie, one of Chase's best performances, and it's impossible not to crack up at his facial expressions and physical comedy in the video. 

Johnny Depp - "Into The Great Wide Open"

Johnny Depp has always wanted to be a rock star, so it was a great move by Tom Petty to get him to play the part of one in the video for "Into The Great Wide Open" in 1991. The video also stars the legendary Faye Dunaway and Gabrielle Anwar. 

Jennifer Connelly - "I Drove All Night"

The late, great Roy Orbison found almost as much fame after he died as he found in life. Two albums of all-new songs were released posthumously and one song, "I Drove All Night," released in 1992, featured Jennifer Connelly alongside Jason Priestly, in the video, along with Orbison in grainy images of an old TV appearance. 

Kirsten Dunst - "I Knew I Loved You"

Does anybody remember the band Savage Garden? The Aussie duo had a string of huge hits in the late '90s, including the song "I Knew I Loved You" which features Kirsten Dunst as a woman on a subway with whom the lead singer, Darren Hayes, is in love. 

Robin Williams - "Don't Worry, Be Happy"

Bobby McFerrin's 1988 song "Don't Worry, Be Happy" has to be one of the most surprising #1 hits of all time. The song was huge when it came out, and went on to win three Grammys. Someone must have had an inkling though, because superstar Robin Williams co-stars in the video with McFerrin. 

Kim Basinger - "Last Dance With Mary Jane"

Tom Petty made some legendary videos during his career, but the strangest has to be the one for "Last Dance With Mary Jane" which features Kim Basinger playing a corpse, dressed up as a bride. Great song, but a very weird video.

Keanu Reeves - "Rush, Rush"

1991 was a big year for Keanu Reeves. Not only did he star in Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey and Point Break, but he also appeared as a James Dean-like character in the video for "Rush, Rush" by Paula Abdul. 

Eddie Murphy - "Do You Remember The Time"

In case you've forgotten just how huge Michael Jackson was in the early '90s, remember there was a time he could premiere a video on MTV, BET, and Fox all at the same time. The video starred Jackson, of course, along with Eddie Murphy and Iman as ancient Egyptian royalty. Magic Johnson also appeared. 

Katie Holmes - "Tongue Tied"

Katie Holmes' career was just starting to take off in 1999 with her starring turn on Dawson's Creek. She also found some time to appear in the video for the song "Tongue Tied" by pop punk band Eve 6. It's not the last time Holmes has appeared in a video, either. A year later, in 2000, she starred with Micheal Douglas and others in a Bob Dylan video. 

Winona Ryder - "Debbie Gibson Is Pregnant with My Two-Headed Love Child"

By far the award for the strangest appearance on this list goes to Winona Ryder in the video for Mojo Nixon's song "Debbie Gibson Is Pregnant with My Two-Headed Love Child." Leave it to the late Nixon for coming up with the most ridiculous premise for a song, then landing a star like Ryder to star in the video in 1989, the same year she appeared in Heathers. 

RuPaul - "Love Shack"

If one were to guess which 1980s video to expect a RuPaul appearance, the smart money would be a B-52's video. That's exactly what happened in 1989 when RuPaul popped up very briefly in the video for "Love Shack" as a dancer and partygoer. He wasn't close to famous yet, but he was good friends with the band and he fits right into the campiness of the video. 

Benicio del Toro - "La Isla Bonita"

Benicio del Toro made his big screen debut in 1988 in Pee Wee's Big Top, but a year earlier, he was one of the extras in the video for Madonna's "La Isla Bonita." He is way in the background and can only be clearly seen in one shot, but when you watch the video, it's unmistakenly del Toro. 

Liv Tyler - "Crazy"

According to Liv Tyler, she didn't meet her biological father, Aerosmith lead singer Steven Tyler, until she was eight, and didn't know he was her father for another few years. Still, by the time she starred in the video for "Crazy," they had developed a healthy relationship, and the video, in which she co-stars with Alicia Silverstone, launched her career.

Captain Lou Albano - "Girls Just Want To Have Fun"

Cyndi Lauper was one of the biggest breakout stars of early MTV and for good reason. The low-budget video for her debut single, "Girls Just Want To Have Fun" featured a quirky cast that included her mother (playing her mother), her lawyer, and wrestling star "Captain" Lou Albano as her father. It's a video as fun as the song and it was played on repeat in those early MTV days. 

John Goodman - "Wild Wild Life"

The song "Wild Wild Life" by The Talking Heads was part of their soundtrack for the David Byrne-directed film True Stories. For the video, he recruited some of the people who appear in the film, including John Goodman, who lip-syncs along with the song in a karaoke bar. 

LeVar Burton - "Word Up"

LeVar Burton first found fame as Kunta Kinte in Roots, one of the most memorable performances by any actor, ever. About a decade later, between Roots and Star Trek: The Next Generation, Burton popped up in the video for "Word Up" by Cameo, playing a police officer trying to arrest the band. 

One video we left off this list because it's just too big a list on its own is the video for Ghostbusters which, in addition to the stars of the film also includes Chevy Chase, Danny Devito, Peter Falk, Al Franken, John Candy, and more. It's all too much to add to his list of some of the coolest appearances of stars in music videos! 

When it comes to the best movies of the 1990s, Clueless is definitely up there! It’s not only a hilarious high school comedy with all its quotable lines and fashion moments, it’s a pop culture minefield of the era! While the original cast of Clueless is absolutely perfect, over the years, it's been revealed that numerous big name actors were almost in the classic ’90s movie. From Reese Witherspoon to Gwyneth Paltrow, a lot of massive stars crossed paths with the Beverly Hill-set film before Alicia Silverstone, Paul Rudd and more were officially cast.

Reese Witherspoon 

Years before Reese Witherspoon starred in iconic movies like Legally Blonde, Election and Cruel Intentions, the actress auditioned “so hard” for Clueless, clearly to play Cher Horowitz. While talking to BuzzFeed, she shared the role that got away. It’s not hard to see her as the leading character, but of course she’s gone on to have a fabulous career without wearing that yellow plaid matching set. At the time, casting director Carrie Frazier recalls Witherspoon was “amazing,” but Alicia Silverstone was ultimately the right Cher. 

Kerry Washington

At the same time Reese Witherspoon shared her audition for Clueless, her Little Fires Everywhere co-star Kerry Washington explained that she tried out for a role in the comedy as well! We can totally see Washington rocking the role of Cher’s best friend Dionne Davenport, but it was, of course, Stacey Dash’s part to win. While realizing their unique connection, Witherspoon and Washington joked they should “recreate” a Clueless scene together. 

Ben Affleck 

Another big name that could have been in the 1995 movie is Ben Affleck! At the time, Affleck was just stepping into the Hollywood scene with roles in School Ties and Dazed and Confused when he was considered for Paul Rudd’s part as Josh. Reportedly, Affleck passed on the role in order to do his first movie with Kevin Smith, Mallrats, as well as Glory Days. But as casting director Carrie Frazier said, per ET, she was “really trying to get” Affeck for the part and was “heartbroken” when it didn’t go to him at first.  

Terrence Howard

Before Donald Faison earned the role of Murray in Clueless, Terrence Howard was reportedly a “top contender” for Dionne’s boyfriend. At the time, Howard was also pretty new to Hollywood, but he’d done guest spots in All My Children, Living Single and Family Matters. While Howard didn’t get the role, he would go on to be part of Mr. Holland’s Opus, which became a part of the 1995 award season conversation. 

Zach Braff 

Speaking of Donald Faison, the actor’s future BFF and Scrubs co-star Zach Braff was also up for Clueless as Josh as well. All we know is that he auditioned for Paul Rudd’s part, but didn’t get it. Braff and Rudd certainly look somewhat alike, and we have to wonder if Faison and Braff passed each other at the casting office years prior to meeting on Scrubs. 

Angelina Jolie 

Carrie Frazier has also revealed in the past that Angelina Jolie was among the actors who auditioned for Cher Horowitz at the time. However, the casting director shared that she felt Jolie was “too knowing” for playing the high schooler and found her to be “exactly the opposite” of what they needed for the role. 1995 would become the year Jolie first starred in a movie, but it was for Hackers instead. 

Jeremy Renner

Another memorable member of the Clueless cast was Breckin Meyer’s Travis Birkenstock, who played the school’s resident stoner/skater kid. According to ABC, the eventual Avengers actor “came down to the finals” to play Travis at the time and was “very funny” in his audition. If he had gotten it, it would have been Renner’s first movie. Instead, 1995’s National Lampoon’s Senior Trip was his first film! 

Keri Russell

Director Amy Heckerling reportedly had her “heart set” on Alicia Silverstone quite early on for Cher Horowitz (per ET), but she was asked to “explore” all the options, so she went ahead and did so. Among the names she has shared that auditioned is Keri Russell, who would of course go on to star in another iconic coming-of-age leading role with Felicity. 

Sarah Michelle Gellar

Another future ‘90s TV icon who auditioned for Clueless just a couple of years before getting her big break leading a show was Sarah Michelle Gellar. The Buffy the Vampire Slayer actress auditioned as Cher’s nemesis at school Amber, which Elisa Donovan ended up playing. In this case, Gellar was actually offered the role before Donovan, but she had to pass it up due to a role she had at the time on All My Children.  

Seth Green 

Another actor that was reportedly up for Travis Birkenstock along with Jeremy Renner before Breckin Meyer, was the actor’s pal Seth Green. While he didn’t get the part, the actor would star in another iconic ‘90s teen movie in 1998’s Can’t Hardly Wait which starred the likes of Jennifer Love Hewitt.

Dave Chappelle

Dave Chappelle could have been in Clueless too in Donald Faison’s role of Murray. The director apparently met with the comedian while casting for the part after being a fan of Robin Hood: Men In Tights. However, what allowed Faison to win over him was his more “innocent” appeal. She felt Chappelle was a bit too edgy for the high school role. 

Gwyneth Paltrow 

Lastly, we also know that Gwyneth Paltrow was also in the running for Cher. It sounds like the studio really wanted her to be in the movie after she had been in 1993’s Flesh And Bone. However, the director shared she never actually got to see Paltrow audition. Paltrow would go on to star in Se7en that year!

So many huge actors were considered for Clueless. While it’s fun to imagine these other great talents as these iconic characters, the casting team of the comedy really made some incredible choices. We wouldn’t want it any other way! 

New York Fashion Week has been absolutely popping with big celebrities in some gorgeously bold ensembles since the semi-annual kicked off last Thursday. But amidst all the glamour and excitement, a very awkward moment reportedly occurred when Clueless star Alicia Silverstone and rock star Avril Lavigne both sat front row at Christian Siriano’s runway show. 

As Alicia Silverstone donned a sheer dress with black flower appliqués and a black bodysuit underneath it from Christian Siriano himself ,and was at a prime spot to see the runaway show, apparently an attendee approached her and asked Silverstone if she worked for Avril Lavigne, who was sitting close by. Per Page Six, Silverstone visibly looked “confused” regarding the question before the guest realized their mistake and said “Oh my God. I’m so sorry” and proceeded to scurry away. 

The report shared that Alicia Silverstone was a “good sport” about the mixup and “kind of laughed” it off, but oh my, what a cringe couple of minutes that must have been. I’m most embarrassed for the unnamed guest who apparently has never seen the actress in one of the most iconic ‘90s movie roles of all time, met the star and thought she was part of Avril Lavigne’s entourage. If only I could be a fly on the wall and witness all the reactions nearby as the guest approached the truly clueless person to the actress behind Cher Horowitz. 

It’s not like Clueless is some random science fiction or horror movie unbeknownst to the industry; the 1995 release is an incredibly fashion forward movie that is still referenced all the time in current trends. I imagine it’s punishment enough that the guest now has the cringey memory of asking Alicia Silverstone if she worked for Avril Lavigne. If I was there, though, I won't lie, it would be very hard to not scream “As if!” upon the question being asked. 

On the other hand, I imagine Alicia Silverstone is recognized just about everyday for being a famous actress, so perhaps the awkward moment was somewhat refreshing (and a little humbling) in that moment. Silverstone has opened up before about really not being “prepared” for the kind of fame Clueless brought her when the movie came out when she was 18 years old. In recent years especially, Alicia Silverstone has embraced her Clueless persona, between referencing Cher in TikToks or showing the classic to her son. 

Coming up, the actress is set to star in Netflix’s Reptile with Benicio Del Toro and Justin Timberlake. The movie premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival ahead of one of 2023’s new movie releases coming to the streaming service on October 6. In the meantime, a certain New York Fashion Week guest should appease their crimes by watching Clueless, don’t you think? And I don’t mind if I do either. 

Many of those with a Netflix subscription will likely agree that the platform is home to some great true crime movies and TV shows. Yet, it should not go unnoticed that it also has a great catalog of fictional crime dramas – the latest of which is an upcoming film called Reptile.

With a title like that, this new Netflix original movie sounds like it should be included among the platform’s best monster movies or even in the nature documentary section. However, we can assure you that it is neither of those things, even though its subject matter might also qualify it as a new Netflix horror movie on a psychological level. Allow us to better explain what we mean by going through all the most essential facts about Reptile, starting with when it is expected to slither into your queue.

What Is The Reptile Release Date?

According to Netflix’s official blog, Tudum, Reptile will be available to stream on the platform on Friday, September 29, 2023. Another Tudum post reveals that the upcoming 2023 movie is one of the many Netflix originals set to premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September.

Unlike many of those titles, Reptile boasts a dark story, which we will talk about more explicitly soon. However, one way the film does relate with the rest of Netflix’s TIFF slate  — including the Chris Evans and Emily Blunt-led Pain Hustlers and Rustin with Colman Domingo — is a star-studded ensemble of top-notch talent.

Benicio Del Toro Leads The Reptile Cast

Academy Award winner Benicio del Toro (for Steven Soderbergh’s Traffic) is a master at playing bad guys (i.e. the classic Guy Ritchie movie, Snatch, or in Star Wars: The Last Jedi as the double-crossing DJ). Thus, his lead role in Reptile as a police detective named Tom Nichols seeking redemption from his troubled past serves as a, sort of, epilogue moment for his career. Playing Will, whose wife’s murder Nichols is investigating, is Grammy-winning pop star and Social Network cast member Justin Timberlake, whose gone to dark places as an actor before, as recently as leading Apple TV+’s Palmer in 2021.

Reuniting with Del Toro for the first time since 1997’s Excess Baggage to play Nichols’ wife Judy is Alicia Silverstone, whom the actor was delighted to reconnect with, as he shared with Tudum. The Reptile cast also includes Eric Bogosian from 2019’s A24 masterpiece Uncut Gems; Ato Essandoh, who is known for movies like Garden State and 2016’s Jason Bourne; and fellow musician Sky Ferreira, according to Deadline. Netflix movie veteran Dominic Lombardozzi (Fat Tony Salerno from Martin Scorsese’s The Irishman) also stars alongside Michael Carmen Pitt, who is known for the acclaimed NC-17 movie 2003’s The Dreamers and another Netflix exclusive from 2020 called The Last Days of American Crime.

The Trailer Teases A Chilling Slice Of Neo-Noir

We have already teased what sort of gloomy and disturbing subject matter there is to expect from Reptile throughout this guide so far. However, nothing we can say can prepare you forwhat a “nightmare” this story will prove to be for Del Toro and co. than by watching the official trailer. Check out the clip for yourself below:

Opening a movie trailer for a crime drama with your protagonist in a therapy session accompanied by an ominous score is a pretty good indication that things are not going well. That only becomes more clear when the music switches to Juice Newton’s “Angel in the Morning,” providing an intriguing juxtaposition to the ensuing montage of grief, increasingly disturbing imagery related to the central murder investigation, and a glimpse at the suspect list – which includes a certain character of unsettling an air played by Pitt. Overall, the teaser does its job painting a picture of the kind of haunting detective story Reptile seems to be.

A Murder Investigation Becomes An Introspective Journey For A Veteran Detective

As detailed in Netflix’s aforementioned Tudum blog post, the story of Reptile follows veteran cop as he struggles to solve the brutal murder of a young real estate agent in New England. As he sifts through the disturbing clues, brings up all the usual suspects for questioning – including the victim’s current lover, her former husband, and a few other interesting stand-outs – it unexpectedly begins to bring enlightening, conspiratorial evidence regarding his community to his attention.

Yet, what is even more concerning to Nichols is the way the investigation seems to be blockaded by memories of his own dark past. Del Toro reflected on this to Tudum by describing his role as “a man who gets a second chance, but then something happens and a reckoning occurs.” Will our unlikely hero be able to overcome his past, see through the lines of corruption blinding him to the answers he needs, and bring the culprit of this nightmarish homicide case to justice?

Directorial Debut Of Grant Singer

As mentioned in a preview story by GQ, Reptile is the first feature-length drama helmed by Grant Singer, who actually did make his official feature-length debut as the director of the Netflix original music documentary Shawn Mendes: In Wonder in 2020. Music is a recurring element of his entire filmography so far, as he is best known for directing videos for the likes of The Weeknd, Ariana Grande, and the aforementioned Reptile cast member Sky Ferreira. However, it was this crime drama would make his first collaboration with Timberlake.

Singer also penned the screenplay along with a couple of co-writers: fellow music video director Benjamin Brewer, who also worked on the visual effects for Best Picture Oscar winner Everything Everywhere All At Once. Benicio del Toro recalled having a lot of fun with the collaboration to Tudum, adding how they discussed ways to make the narrative more interesting and more realistic by doing extensive research and pulling from other iconic crime stories such as Truman Capote’s In Cold Blood.

The question that remains on my mind is what the true meaning behind the title is. Does Reptile refer to the cold-blooded nature of the case? Is it a way of describing the mysterious culprit as an elusive snake? Or is it meant to represent Nichols’ ability (or even inability) to shed his own skin and move on from his past? Hopefully, all will be revealed when the R-rated thriller becomes available to stream on Netflix this fall.

Every once in a while a movie becomes a cultural phenomenon and catapults its stars into the kind of whirlwind fame that sounds impossible to process in real time. That certainly happened for Alicia Silverstone at the age of 18 when Clueless came out and blew teenage moviegoers' minds. For a short while, the actress was at the center of a huge pop culture moment, which may sound exciting to some. However, as Silverstone recently shared, it wasn’t an easy time in her life. 

Everything seemingly happened at once for Alicia Silverstone, between starring in Aerosmith music videos and working with the likes of James Gandolfini, Jeff Goldblum and Cary Elwes early in her career. She opened up to The Hollywood Reporter about how she tried to process all of that and, as she put it, it was "complicated," to say the least:

Many definitely think fondly of Alicia Silverstone, due to her iconic Clueless lines and the other great roles she's had throughout her career. But one must be cognizant of the fact that she struggled with fame early on. Her experiences really nail down the fact that everything is not what it seems in Hollywood.

She may have had a tough time early on, but Alicia Silverstone says that she’s “having nothing but fun now” on movie sets. It’s been nearly 30 years since the teen comedy dropped, and Silverstone has clearly had time to learn some perspective. With that, she's been able to get adjusted to being a Hollywood actress. And she hasn't forgotten her roots, as the actress reprised the role of Cher for one of the funniest Super Bowl ads of 2023. Also, when she's not acting, she serves as an activist and even went nude for PETA as part of the organization's anti-leather campaign in December.

The star currently has numerous movies on the way. She’s part of two upcoming 2023 movies, including Mustache (which also stars Hasan Minhaj) and a crime thriller called Reptile, and that'll see her team up with Benicio del Toro and Justin Timberlake. She also recently worked on a comedy called Krazy House that stars Nick Frost and Kevin Connolly. On top of that, she's also joined the cast of a drama called Tunnels, adding herself to a cast that includes Anna Faris, Susan Sarandon and Patrick Wilson. 

Even though the Clueless days were not necessarily the best of times for Alicia Silverstone, it sounds like it’s been all uphill from there. Quite frankly, it's wonderful to see that she’s thriving! 

Actress Alicia Silverstone has had a long and successful career, going from a ‘90s teen sweetheart to an established star of stage and screen. On top of her ongoing life as an actress, she also uses her platform as an advocate for animal and environmental rights. This often pairs her with PETA, and Silverstone recently went nude for that organization in a campaign against animal leather. And there’s even video content explaining why.

Alicia Silverstone is a noted vegan, which includes both her food choices as well as other materials like clothing. That’s what inspired her to bare it all at the age of 46, in order to bring attention to the effect the leather industry has on both the environment and to the animals themselves. There you have it. Alicia Silverstone wants to bring attention to PETA’s campaign against the use of leather, and that’s certainly one way to turn heads. The cheeky image sees the Clueless icon void of anything clothing, except for some boots that were made from cactus leather. She’s surrounded by that spiky vegetation, while the caption says “Don’t be a prick.” Clearly there was a very specific vision and message in mind for this nude shoot, and it’s definitely a striking image.

In addition to posting nude for this photo shoot, Alicia Silverstone also shot a video on PETA’s official YouTube account. In it she explains why she decided to go nude for the first time in her entire career in order to get more eyes on the campaign. As she put it,

There you have it. On top of concerns about the animals involved in the leather industry, Alicia Silverstone is also concerned about how many other non-sustainable resources are used in order to make it a sustainable business. PETA is definitely an organization with a ton of influence, so Alicia Silverstone probably paired with the right group in order to bring light to the harm of leather, and some of the alternatives that are currently available. Later in that same clip, Silverstone hammered down the importance of taking care of the environment, saying:

Smart money says this campaign does what it intended to, and ends up being circulated widely thanks to Alicia Silverstone’s vulnerability. We’ll just have to see how many people seek out leather alternatives upon learning more about this cause.

American Horror Stories made its debut on Hulu in 2021, showing off several different anthology stories with a new cast every single episode that truly captured some of the creepiest moments in AHS history. But Season 2 is here, and it has a whole new cast full of new and recognizable stars alike. 

From people who have been on American Horror Story before to brand new folks, here are some of the American Horror Stories Season 2 cast, and where you might have seen them before. 

Alicia Silverstone 

That’s right, Alicia Silverstone is joining her first ever horror TV series with an appearance in American Horror Stories, but this iconic actress has appeared in plenty of hits. Some of her biggest that you might recognize her from are the iconic film, Clueless, Batman & Robin, The Crush and the NBC series, Miss Match. Most recently, she appeared in the Rebel Wilson-led comedy, Senior Year. 

Cody Fern

Cody Fern has actually appeared in the American Horror Story main series before, playing Michael Langdon in American Horror Story: Apocalypse, but he’s had plenty of other roles. He appeared in the Ryan Murphy-created The Assasination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story, the Netflix series, House of Cards, and he also had a role in the episode “Feral” for the first season of American Horror Stories. 

Max Greenfield

Another person who has been on American Horror Story before is Max Greenfield, who had a guest role in Season 5, but you might recognize him the most for his hilarious role as Schmidt in New Girl. He also had recurring roles in shows like Veronica Mars and Ugly Betty, and is going into his fifth season as one of the leads of the CBS sitcom, The Neighborhood, in the fall of 2022. He’s also had a role in the Ice Age movie franchise as Roger, and has done several voice-over roles, too. 

Nico Greetham

Greetham is the third person on this list to have appeared on American Horror Story before, having a role in both the first season of American Horror Stories and American Horror Story: Double Feature. He also had a recurring role as Nick in the Hulu original series, Love, Victor, and portrayed Calvin Maxwell in Power Rangers Ninja Steel. Greetham also played Nick in the Netflix original musical, The Prom. 

Denis O’Hare

Denis O’Hare is a name you should definitely recognize if you’re a fan of American Horror Story, as he’s appeared in a variety of the seasons of the original show, including Murder House, Coven, Freak Show, Hotel, Roanoake, and Double Feature, so he’s AHS royalty at this point. But he’s had plenty of other big roles too. 

Some of his biggest movie appearances you might recognize him from include Milk, Dallas Buyers Club, The Proposal, The Goldfinch, and more. His other big TV roles include work on Brothers & Sisters, The Good Wife, True Blood, This Is Us, and The Nevers.

Gabourey Sidibe

Another AHS alumni here. Gabourey Sidibe appeared in American Horror Story: Coven as Queenie - a role she reprised in both Hotel and Apocalypse - and played Regina Ross in Freak Show. Other than that, Sidibe has appeared in a variety of movies and TV shows. 

Her biggest film role was starring in Precious, which she received an Academy Award nomination for. Other than that, she’s appeared in movies such as Tower Heist, Antebellum, Grimsby, White Bird in a Blizzard, and more. She also played Becky Williams on Empire. 

Dominique Jackson

While she began her career as a model, Dominique Jackson has been in plenty of series that you might recognize her from. Jackson has appeared in a variety of television shows, including American Gods, the FX series, Pose, where she played Elektra, and Strut.

Judith Light

You want to talk about Hollywood royalty, Judith Light is certainly among them, and she’ll be appearing in American Horror Stories. Light has done so much in the industry that it’s hard to list out all of her accomplishments, but she has done a lot in television. Some of her biggest roles on the small screen have been on One Life to Live, Who’s the Boss, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Ugly Betty, Dallas, Transparent, and The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story. Light has also done a lot of theater work, as well. 

Bella Thorne

Next up we have Bella Thorne in American Horror Stories. Getting her start in TV on shows such as Money and Dirty Sexy, Thorne gained further popularity when she co-starred in the Disney Channel original series, Shake It Up, alongside fellow star Zendaya.

Some of her biggest roles after were in, Famous in Love, Blended, The Babysitter movie series, Amityville: The Awakening, The DUFF, and Girl. She also directed an adult film titled Her & Him. 

Quvenzhané Wallis

Quvenzhané Wallis may not even be twenty yet, but she is sure making a name for herself with a role in American Horror Stories. Wallis got her start with a breakout performance in Beasts of the Southern Wild - where she was nominated for an Academy Award (and became the youngest actor ever to receive that honor).

After, she starred in several other films and TV shows like the movie Annie, the TV series, Swagger, 12 Years a Slave, Trolls, and had a recurring role on Black-ish. 

Kyanna Simone

Kyanna Simone has appeared in a variety of movies and television shows. Some of her biggest roles on TV have been Show Me a Hero, Black Lightning, Chambers, and the CW series, All American. She’s also had a variety of movie appearances too, including Ma, Ambition, Fist Fight, and more. 

Raven Scott 

Raven Scott has appeared in the TV shows Scorpion and See, and has also appeared in films such Stolen Moments, The Call of the Wild, and Seven Days. 

Derrick Aguis

Derrick Aguis had a minor role in American Horror Story: Double Feature, but has also appeared in several shorts and other TV shows. Some include The Fugitive, DRIP, The Rookie, Sheryl Still Single, and more.  

Cameron Cowperthwaite

Like many of his American Horror Stories co-stars, Cameron Cowperthwaite had a role on American Horror Story before, playing Speedwagon in Cult in 2017. He’s also had a variety of TV appearances on shows such as Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Feud: Bette and Joan, Station 19, the Showtime original series, Shameless, and more. He also had a guest role in American Horror Stories in 2021. 

Anthony De La Torre

Anthony De La Torre has appeared in a variety of movies and TV. He played young Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales and was in Lords of Chaos. He also played Anthony Del Rey in 100 Things to Do Before High School, and Jackson in Vida. 

Kristine Froseth

Next up, we have Kristin Froseth in American Horror Stories, who has appeared in a variety of movies and TV shows. Some of her biggest films include Sierra Burgess is a Loser, Rebel in the Rye, Prey, The Assistant, and more. She also had a starring role in the Looking for Alaska cast, and has had roles in shows such as The Society on Netflix (which was cancelled way too soon), When the Streetlights Go On, The First Lady, and more. 

Madison Iseman

Moving on, we have Madison Iseman in American Horror Stories. Iseman has appeared as Bethany Walker in the latest Jumanji movie series (the one starring Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart), and has appeared in many other movies such as Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween, Annabelle Comes Home, the Disney+ original movie, Clouds, Nocturne, Fear of Rain, and more. She’s also appeared in television shows such as Still the King, and I Know What You Did Last Summer. 

Houston Jax Towe

This actor might be young, but Houston Jax Towe has done plenty already in Hollywood, appearing in a few movies and television shows. His biggest role so far was playing Young Andrew in Animal Kingdom, but he’s appeared in a few other shows and movies, too. 

This includes the films Goblin, The Deadbeats, and Daddy Daughter Trip. He also played Young Freddie in the Paramount+ reboot of iCarly, so it’s exciting to see him start to use his talent in much bigger shows such as American Horror Stories. 

Kyla Drew Simmons

Last, but certainly not the least, is Kyla Drew Simmons in American Horror Stories. The actress has been in many movies and TV shows. Some of his biggest movies that she has appeared in include the Hugh Jackman-starring film, Prisoners, The Veil, and Soul Ties among others. However, Simmons has really shined on TV, appearing in many main and recurring roles. 

These include, but aren’t limited to, Nicky, Ricky, Dicky & Dawn, Station 19, No Good Nick, Crown Lake, Dad Stop Embarrassing Me!, and many other guest roles on shows such as The Good Doctor and Raven’s Home. 

With each episode telling a new story with a new cast, it’s no surprise that there are plenty of awesome stars on this list that have done so much - and I’m sure they’ll only continue to grow and show off even more of their talent as time goes on. Now, if you don’t mind me, I’m going to go and re-watch the first season of American Horror Stories.

Though her early career featured performances that were fairly dark in nature, from 1993's The Crush to those Aerosmith music videos, ‘90s icon Alicia Silverstone is definitely more known for her cheerier comedic performances. (And I'm largely counting her infamous Batgirl role in that category as well, all things considered.) But the Clueless vet will soon be seen in generally unfamiliar territories, as Silverstone is heading to her first big horror TV show as part of the cast of American Horror Stories Season 2.

As awesome as it would be to see Alicia Silverstone joining other horror TV projects like Fear the Walking Dead or a future Haunting of... season from Mike Flanagan, there's something inherently perfect about the actress diving into the genre with American Horror Story's co-creators Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk. The pair have pulled off more hits than misses within the AHS franchise so far, and though it’d obviously be more preferable for Silverstone to join the mothership series for a full-season role (or roles, given how Double Feature turned out), buggin’ beggars cannot be buggin’ choosers. I. Will. Take. It.

Given how secretive AHS franchise is when it comes to what fans can expect, it’s perhaps not a surprise at all that we don’t yet know how Silverstone will play into the upcoming anthologized season of American Horror Stories, nor how many episodes she will appear in. The news of her joining the cast was made public through the show’s Twitter, with a video previewing the first wave of confirmed cast members for Season 2. Is Silverstone the only big name mentioned? As if!! We've got Bella Thorne, Judith Light and more on the way.

Both American Crime Story vet Cody Fern and The Prom’s Nico Greetham were involved in American Horror Stories’ first season, and both have also appeared in one or more seasons of the flagship horror series. Considering Fern’s AHS career started out with the living Antichrist, it’s always interesting to see what roles he lands. Meanwhile, New Girl vet Max Greenfield previously cameoed in Hotel in a particularly gnarly role, while Gabourey Sidibe has guest-starred in four seasons so far, with three of those seasons featuring her bewitching character Queenie. Finally, Denis O’Hare has starred or appeared in six of American Horror Story’s ten seasons to date, and almost always in truly disturbing roles.

The ’90s sleeper hit Clueless carries a timeless legacy that people of any generation can watch. The plaid clothes, the “totally buggin’” slang, the music, and Alicia Silverstone. This was a movie that clearly defined her career that was a modern retelling of Jane Austen’s Emma that raises the question of whether you are doing good for others or for yourself. Someone who actually saw the film for the first time as a five-year-old boy was Alicia Silverstone’s son Bear, who had a surprising reaction after his first viewing of his mother’s movie.

Alicia Silverstone will always be remembered for playing Cher Horowitz as the most popular girl at her Beverly Hills high school trying to help others, but not in the smartest way. The iconic ‘90s actress made an appearance at the movie premiere of Senior Year where she told Entertainment Tonight about the first time her son saw her movie Clueless. 

Would you consider this a "clueless" moment? Maybe introducing a five-year-old to a PG-13 movie that features sexual innuendos and drugs is not a traditional parenting strategy. But then again, he was five at the time so who knows how much of the film Bear remembers? If they ever decide to plan a Clueless sequel, her son by that time will probably be at the appropriate age to see it.

The Batman & Robin actress has always had an interesting relationship with her son. Everyone remembers the time Alicia Silverstone got attention for chewing her son’s baby food and transferring it to his mouth with a kiss as birds do. Alicia Silverstone shared more about what her son’s reaction was the first time he saw Clueless.

Apparently, this is what happens when you see a steamy kiss between Alicia Silverstone and Paul Rudd. You cannot help but want the same thing. Well, maybe Bear will be the “Josh” for someone else in his life. The 45-year-old actress seemingly cannot find it in herself to shake off the defining role of her career. She revived Cher in an awesome Lip Sync Battle by lip-syncing to Iggy Azalea’s “Fancy” while wearing the memorable preppy yellow plaid outfit worn by Cher in the film's first scene. Silverstone also made a TikTok debut in the most Cher way by giving us a Clueless throwback featuring her son. "As if" you can ever pull these two away from each other.

When it comes to the '90s, there are so many iconic movies that I’m sure every single one of you has seen reading this article. But with these iconic movies comes iconic film roles, and these actresses were some of the best in the business. Here are several actresses with some truly iconic film roles in '90s movies. 

Kate Winslet (Titanic)

Considering Titanic was once the biggest film in the world, it’s not surprising the first pick here is Kate Winslet, who played Rose DeWitt Bukater. It’s certainly one of Winslet’s best films so far, and put her on the fast track to become the famous actor she is today.  

Gwyneth Paltrow (Se7en)

While Gwyneth Paltrow known amazingly well now from her variety of film performances, her role of Tracy Mills in Se7en is certainly an iconic one, with her character playing an essential role throughout the story. It wasn’t that long after she would star in Shakespeare in Love and win an Academy Award for her acting. 

Sharon Stone (Basic Instinct)

Yes, this is Sharon Stone from that controversial scene in Basic Instinct. But no one can deny that her performance in this film was great, and she acted her butt off in this erotic thriller. Every single scene she was in, she stole the show.

Jodie Foster (The Silence Of The Lambs)

The '90s were filled to the brim with iconic horror films like The Silence of the Lambs, and was only the third film in history to win the Big Five at the Academy Awards - Best Picture, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Actress and Best Actor. Best Actress went to Jodie Foster for her amazing portrayal of Clarice Starling. 

Sandra Bullock (Speed)

While Sandra Bullock is currently busy in 2022 with her film, The Lost City, one of her first big roles ever was starring alongside Keanu Reeves in the action film, Speed, portraying Annie Porter, the main love interest of the film and a total badass. 

Winona Ryder (Edward Scissorhands)

This is definitely one of Winona Ryder’s best movies. Playing Kim Boggs in Edward Scissorhands, Ryder perfectly captured what true kindness is meant to look like, and her love story with Edward is one for the history books that anyone would adore to witness.  

Rachel Leigh Cook (She’s All That)

While the reboot, He’s All That, made plenty of references to the original film, She’s All That just can’t be beaten, and that includes Rachel Leigh Cook’s iconic performance as Laney Boggs. I mean, who could forget that memorable “Kiss Me” scene? It’s the epitome of teen movie makeovers. You have to love it. 

Meryl Streep (The Bridges Of Madison County)

Meryl Streep has been around for many years in the movie industry and has some amazing films under her belt. And while she did plenty of movies in the '90s, my personal favorite performance of hers was in The Bridges of Madison County, where she played Francesca Johnson, a married mother who has a steamy four-day love affair with a photojournalist. Her chemistry with Clint Eastwood is second to none. 

Meg Ryan (Sleepless In Seattle, You’ve Got Mail)

A legendary queen of romantic comedies, you could not stop Meg Ryan in the '90s. Not only was she in two iconic roles in romantic comedies, Sleepless in Seattle and You’ve Got Mail, both of those films were alongside Tom Hanks and showed just how amazing their chemistry is. 

Demi Moore (Ghost)

That damn pottery scene has been recreated by so many people - I mean, even Snoop Dogg and Martha Stewart recreated it! - but no one can quite beat Demi Moore's performance. She shined in her leading role of Molly Jensen alongside Patrick Swayze. I think all of us have wished at least once we were in her shoes. 

Sarah Michelle Gellar (I Know What You Did Last Summer)

While plenty of folks know Sarah Michelle Gellar for her portrayal of Buffy in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Gellar starred in another horror hit that same year portraying Helen Shivers in I Know What You Did Last Summer, giving a masterclass in chase scenes in horror movies. 

Whoopi Goldberg (Sister Act, Ghost)

Whoopi Goldberg is certainly an iconic name that I am sure you’ve heard of plenty of times before, and she had not one but two iconic roles in the '90s. To me, my favorite is her lead role in Sister Act, starring as Deloris Van Cartier and bringing some soul into religion, but I can’t not mention her Academy Award-nominated performance as Oda Mae Brown in Ghost. 

Julia Roberts (Pretty Woman)

It’s one of Julia Roberts' best movies. Pretty Woman has some pretty iconic scenes, but none of them could have been accomplished if not for the charming performance that Roberts delivered as Vivian. I’m pretty sure every time I’ve watched that movie, all I want is to be in that bathtub. That looks so damn nice.

Drew Barrymore (Scream) 

Drew Barrymore was only in the first twelve minutes of the first Scream movie, and yet her scene has become iconic in every sense of the word. You go up to a horror movie fan and ask “do you like scary movies?” and they’ll know exactly what film its from as well as what scene - and Drew Barrymore is the star of it. 

Neve Campbell (Scream)

Even if Drew Barrymore was the star of the first twelve minutes, it was Neve Campbell that became the star of the Scream franchise, reprising her role in every single new film since, showing just how badass she is as the ultimate final girl. 

Reese Witherspoon (Cruel Intentions)

Witherspoon has been in many movies and some great TV shows, but back in the '90s, she was still just starting out, and Cruel Intentions was a breakthrough role for her. She played Annette Hargrove, a young woman who was the target of the two main characters of the film. In this '90s movie, she showed just how talented she is at acting. 

Alicia Silverstone (Clueless)

Ugh, as if! Alicia Silverstone truly stole the screen when she played Cher in Clueless, a story about a teenage girl who ends up befriending a new student and decides to give her a makeover. I mean, those outfits alone are definitely iconic enough for her to be on this list.  

Laura Dern (Jurassic Park)

Raise your hand if you’re excited to see Laura Dern back in Jurassic World: Dominion. *Raises hand* Regardless, Laura Dern in the original Jurassic Park was freaking amazing, and Dr. Ellie Sattler was a badass that I looked up to, and I can’t wait to see what she’s been up to after all these years. 

Julia Stiles (10 Things I Hate About You)

Ugh, 10 Things I Hate About You is one of my favorites, and it’s legit because of the chemistry that Julia Stiles and Heath Ledger have in this film. They are my all-time favorite romantic couple and Julia Stiles rocks it as Kat. 

Halle Berry (Jungle Fever)

While Halle Berry has been in plenty of badass roles over the last two decades, there was a time where she was just getting started in Hollywood. One of the first films that she had a supporting role in was Spike Lee’s Jungle Fever, where she played Vivian. While she's gone on to play more prominent roles since then, it was one of the movies that broke her out onto the scene and paved the way for bigger things down the line, like X-Men and Monster’s Ball. 

Natalie Portman (Star Wars: The Phantom Menace)

Padme Amidala, known as the Queen/Senator of Naboo and Anakin Skywalker's lover (later wife) was a Star Wars character that made her debut in 1999, and was a badass in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. Natalie Portman portrayed the legendary Star Wars character for the prequel trilogy, and inspired young girls everywhere - but we don’t need to talk about how her character ends in Revenge of the Sith. 

Uma Thurman (Pulp Fiction)

While my personal all-time favorite Uma Thurman performance is her role in Kill Bill, one of her biggest roles prior to this was portraying Mia Wallace in Pulp Fiction, earning her a nomination at the Academy Awards for Best Supporting Actor. I mean, she was the literal character featured on the poster for this film, and honestly, I can see why. She has such star appeal. She has plenty of great performances but this is one of her best. 

Mena Suvari (American Beauty)

This 1999 film, American Beauty, told a captivating story about a man having a midlife crisis, but the main star to me of this was Mena Suvari as Angela Hayes, the object of affection for the main character, Lester Burnham. Even if the film didn’t age too well, I think we call agree Suvari was phenomenal in it. 

Robin Wright (Forrest Gump)

If you’re not saying “Jenny” by the end of Forrest Gump in a Southern drawl, I don’t think we were watching the same film. This Academy Award-winning film starring Tom Hanks told the story of Forrest Gump and his legendary life, often times where he would think of his young love, Jenny, played by Robin Wright. Their love story is a tumultuous one, but a memorable one as well. 

Kirsten Dunst (Interview With The Vampire)

Kirsten Dunst in Interview with the Vampire is iconic for many reasons, showing how amazingly talented she was as an actress at the tender age of eleven. She later went on to star in films like Bring it On and Spider-Man, but no one can quite forget her character, Claudia.

Salma Hayek (Desperado)

Salma Hayek has been in many different kinds of films, such as being a part of the Grown Ups cast or starring in The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard, but Desperado was one of the early films that made her the star she is today. Starring alongside Antonio Banderas as Carolina, Hayek was badass and her character was just as amazing. It’s definitely one of her best movies, and I would watch another film with both her and Banderas.  

Angela Bassett (What’s Love Got To Do With It, Waiting To Exhale) 

Angela Bassett is a master-class actress, and has shown just how amazingly talented she is in any role. I mean, there are so many movie parts that she should have been nominated for an Oscar, However, one of her most iconic roles from the '90s did indeed earn her nominations - her portrayal of Tina Turner in What’s Love Got to Do with It. And another great role for Bassett in the '90s was Bernadine Harris in Waiting to Exhale. Both of these movies were great showcases of her acting prowess. 

Whitney Houston (The Bodyguard)

“And I will always love you.” 

You know the song, I know you do. It’s one of the most iconic songs of all time and has been performed by so many people. Even though it was originally written by Dolly Parton, Whitney Houston sang this iconic song for the soundtrack for The Bodyguard, where she played Rachel Marron, a famous singer who falls for the bodyguard tasked with protecting her. 

Michelle Yeoh (Tomorrow Never Dies)

Last but not least, we have Michelle Yeoh in Tomorrow Never Dies. While she’s been in plenty of amazing movies such as Crazy Rich Asians and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, one of my personal favorites of hers is her role as Wai Lin, a Chinese spy and an ally to James Bond. 

Yeoh is a bloody badass. This James Bond alum truly defined the term “kick ass and take names” because she was one of the best Bond girls ever, in my opinion. I would gladly see her return to the franchise alongside Pierce Brosnan, but I don’t think that’ll happen anytime soon, so I’ll just re-watch this movie over and over. 

There are truly so many other iconic roles, but these are some of the best that you should check out again next time you want to watch a great movie. Now, if you don’t mind me, I’m going to re-watch Jurassic Park again before the latest sequel.  

Clueless, which crossed its 25th anniversary back in 2020, has remained one of the most iconic ‘90s movies that became part of popular culture. Much of the film’s talented cast still find fun nuggets from behind the scenes to share with fans. The most recent one comes out of Alicia Silverstone, who recalls one memorable funny beat in the film that she unintentionally added to her classroom monologue. 

Alicia Silverstone, who still does fun throwbacks to her most beloved role of Cher Horowitz on TikTok, shared that she initially messed up the pronunciation of one word in the script, but it worked to the benefit of the film. As she recalled: 

In the scene at the top of the film that has Alicia Silverstone wearing that memorable yellow plaid getup, Cher was not totally buggin’ when she said Haitians incorrectly, because she didn’t know any better. But that very element of the scene is perfect because it goes so well with Cher’s character. The character often talks a big game, but as the movie progresses, it's clear she doesn’t necessarily know what she’s doing. Silverstone continued during her interview with Looper with: 

Alicia Silverstone was clearly embodying her character and the director Amy Heckerling saw that and made sure it stayed in the film. And that moment truly plays well in Clueless. I for sure I laugh every single time I watch the ‘90s comedy when that moment crops up. At the time, Silverstone was a teenager herself too, so there you go. 

Clueless is a reimagining of the Jane Austen novel Emma that took the story into the modern age at the time. It launched the career of Alicia Silverstone, who would play Batgirl in Batman & Robin just two years later alongside tons of roles over the years. Silverstone’s most recent film is a shark movie called The Requin about a couple on a getaway who film themselves stranded in a tropical storm, forced to survive some dangerous elements. 

The actress is returning to the high school movie for Senior Year, a comedy starring Rebel Wilson, about a woman in her late ‘30s (Wilson) who wakes up from a 20-year-come and goes back to high school. Senior Year will be released on May 13, 2022. While we wait for that, you can stream Clueless with an HBO Max subscription. 

Earlier this month, we got our first look at In the Heights’ Leslie Grace as the costumed Barbara Gordon for Batgirl. It marks the superheroine’s return to the live-action film scene after more than two decades, when Clueless star Alicia Silverstone played a tweaked version of the character named Barbara Wilson for 1997’s Batman & Robin. Now Silverstone has shared her thoughts about Grace’s Batgirl suit.

While promoting her new movie Last Survivors with costars Stephen Moyer and Drew Van Acker, Alicia Silverstone was asked by ComicBookMovie what she thinks about Leslie Grace’s upcoming take on Batgirl for the DC Extended Universe. She responded:

While superhero movie costumes still take a lot of time and effort to put together, the art of such wardrobe creation has certainly advanced since the 1990s. Comparing the two Batgirl costumes above, I agree with Alicia Silverstone’s assessment that Leslie Grace’s suit looks more comfortable, whereas Silverstone’s suit was… well, like George Clooney and Chris O’Donnell’s Batman and Robin suits, it was just bizarre, especially in the chest area. In any case, Silverstone sounds supportive of Grace taking over as the new live-action Batgirl, and hopefully she’ll share her thoughts about the movie after it comes out.

Alicia Silverstone has talked before about how working on Batman & Robin wasn’t a pleasant experience for her, and the Batgirl costume being uncomfortable factored into that. Even after she was done shooting the fifth of the Batman movies, the actress was labeled “Fatgirl” in the media, although even at that younger age, Silverstone knew it was wrong to make fun of someone’s body shape. Last October, Silverstone shared a reaction on TikTok to a video someone put on the platform declaring how the media needs to apologize to the actress for how it treated her back in the late ‘90s.

The Joel Schumacher-directed Batman & Robin ended up being a critical and commercial dud, resulting in Warner Bros. and DC rebooting the Batman film series with Batman Begins in 2005. Fast-forward to now, the superhero movie genre is in a much better place compared to 1997, and the time has come for Batgirl to shine in her own movie. Leslie Grace’s costars include J.K. Simmons as Commissioner James Gordon, Michael Keaton as Batman, Brendan Fraser as Firefly and Ivory Aquino as Alysia Yeoh, the latter of whom is the first transgender character to be depicted in a live-action DC Comics movie. Bad Boys for Life duo Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah are directing off a script written by Birds of Prey’s Christina Hodson.

Batgirl doesn’t have a set release date yet, but it will be released exclusively on HBO Max rather than play in theaters. It is one of many DC movies slated for the coming years, so keep checking back with CinemaBlend for updates about them.

Alicia Silverstone arrived on TikTok over the summer, and since then she's been posting a ton of nostalgic content, mostly directed at her famed role as Cher Horowitz in Clueless. The social media platform also allows fans to connect with the actress, and most recently one longtime fan of hers got real about how the media needs to go on an apology tour for the way they treated a teenage Silverstone when she starred in Batman & Robin. 

Batman & Robin already gets plenty of hate on other fronts, but as TikTok user @foreversymone shared in her post, that’s not what her post is about. She wanted to bring to attention the unfair way Alicia Silverstone was treated in the ‘90s for her weight. Alicia Silverstone noticed the video and reacted to her comments: 

As the TikToker shared, she wants “justice for Alicia Silverstone” for the way she was unfairly treated for her size. She pointed to a real magazine article that used the headline “a weighty issue” to describe the actress at the time and even compared her to Babe the pig. As she ranted: 

It’s a great topic to remember because body-shaming in the media was a lot more prevalent in the ‘90s, and as this TikTok reminds us, would go as far as publicly being unkind to young actresses for not being stick thin models. The standards have long been impossibly high in regards to women’s figures, and the narrative around Silverstone donning the Batgirl suit at the time was a straight-up harmful conversation. Alicia Silverstone opened up about this to CinemaBlend’s podcast ReelBlend in a 2020 episode where she called being on the film “uncomfortable.” In her words:  

While speaking to ReelBlend, Alicia Silverstone also shared that while playing Batgirl, she had a great experience with George Clooney and the movie’s Alfred Pennyworth, played by Michael Gough. Otherwise, she didn’t particularly enjoy being a superhero because it was more technical than other projects: 

During Alicia Silverstone’s reaction to the TikToker, she can be heard saying “thank you” to her for defending her unfortunate experience along with “I love you.” After receiving so much hate around the role, even being nicknamed “fatgirl” at the time, it must be nice to see someone understand the injustice that was going on and speak out for her. 

Nearly 15 years after Silverstone took on Batgirl, Warner Bros is revisiting the hero with Leslie Grace set to take on the role in a live-action movie for HBO Max. It's set to begin shooting soon. 

The worlds of Clueless and Mean Girls couldn’t be further apart. While both films delve into teen culture, Cady Heron is no Cher Horowitz. But that didn’t stop Clueless alum Alicia Silverstone from solving an ongoing mystery – who hit Regina George? It seemed as if Silverstone finally gave devote fans the answer with a surprising video.

The Clueless alum took to TikTok to give fans the Clueless and Mean Girls crossover they never knew they needed. Alicia Silverstone took two pivotal moments and wove them together seamlessly. Fans of both films can finally put to rest who hit Regina George with the bus. The horrifying moment took audiences by surprise when Mean Girls was released in 2004. Given Cher Horowitz’s terrible driving skills, it’s no surprise she was behind the wheel. If it isn’t about a boy, the mall or her BBFs’ love lives, Horowitz doesn’t pay much attention to the world around her. By the way, it’s not like George didn’t deserve the payback after all the chaos and manipulation she bred at North Shore High. Getting hit by Cher Horowitz was the best thing that could’ve happened to Regina George and the North Shore student population.

Of course, that’s not how the actual moment played out. Alicia Silverstone masterfully combined the two scenes and added a new layer to both films. Merging Cher hitting a parked car and the infamous Mean Girls scene was genius. Despite having played Cher Horowitz nearly three decades ago, Silverstone still has a love for the character and Clueless. It was nice to see the actress have fun with both films.

Alicia Silverstone’s TikTok video tapped into the lineage Clueless and Mean Girls share. Both films were female-centric high school comedies that reflected specific cultures and times. Both are still referenced in today’s pop culture – whether it’s Halloween costumes, memes or music videos. Each film has an enduring legacy that will continue to live on for decades to come.

Alicia Silverstone and Clueless set the tone for teen comedies in the 1990s and 2000s. When it was released in 1995, the film and its stars quickly became part of pop culture. Of course, the cult classic was a modern take on Jane Austen’s Emma with its 1990s fashion and slang. Many have cited Clueless and Cher Horowitz as a pivotal moment in the late 1990s teen boom. The same could be said about Mean Girls for the 2000s. It came at a time where teen dramas and comedies were starting to take themselves too seriously. The satirical nature of the film proved teen films could subvert the genre. It ended up giving the millennial sect a timely “fish-out-of-water” story (special shout-out to Heathers).

With Alicia Silverstone pairing the greatness of both films, her video might lead to a real-life Clueless/Mean Girls crossover in the future. Hopefully that wouldn’t happen before the rumored Mean Girls sequel. If viewers want to a teen comedy binge-fest, you can find both on Amazon Prime Video.

If there’s one thing that I am totally psyched about coming back, it’s the ‘90s. I don’t think I could have gotten a Rugrats or Courage The Cowardly Dog t-shirt back when I was a kid if I tried, and now it seems like it’s all I see teens wearing. All the ‘90s shows and movies I watched back in the-best-decade-of-all-time are popular again, and just in time for the new generation to enjoy them. If there’s one film from the ‘90s that all teens need to watch (if not only for the style), it’s Clueless. Alicia Silverstone is way ahead of us, because she used her TikTok debut to show off she’s totally still got it in a Clueless throwback only worthy of Cher herself.

Just imagine scrolling through your TikTok feed to see a clip from Clueless; what an amazing blast from the past, am I right? But wait, that’s not a clip! No, that’s a modern day, 44-year-old Alicia Silverstone recreating a scene from Clueless, and it’s honestly like she hasn’t changed at all since her iconic performance. Well, except for the kid she pushed out of frame in her recreation of course. You can check out the throwback debut below in all it’s Beverly Hills glory:

That’s right: Clueless’ own Alicia Silverstone is on TikTok with a ‘90s throwback and a peek into her life now - and that’s only just her first video!

In the TikTok, we see Alicia Silverstone recreating the iconic Clueless scene, and she’s even got the sound of the original scene in the background, her current self just mouthing the word her younger self said on camera. We see her push her son out of frame, just as her younger self pushed a fellow student off of her in the Clueless opening scene. Don’t worry though, her young son comes back into frame and mother and son have a tender moment right after the harsh start to the video.

People are losing their minds upon seeing the TikTok, and rightfully so. Alicia Silverstone already has well over a million followers since posting the video, and her first TikTok has millions of likes and tens of thousands of comments, with over a thousand other videos using Silverstone’s sound.

While this is a pretty awesome video to begin with, it gets even more amazing when you realize, like a lot of other TikTokers have, that Alicia Silverstone is wearing the same jacket as the one she wore in Clueless. If it’s not the exact same jacket, it looks pretty darn close to the original, iconic yellow blazer. It’s very likely that Silverstone kept some of the clothes she wore in the film (I mean come on, wouldn’t you?!), and that this is the OG blazer.

Okay, we get it, you’re still Queen Bee, Alicia Silverstone. It’s time for everyone who was alive in the ‘90s to go back and rewatch what a boss she was (and apparently still is) back in the day, and for the new generation to have a Clueless watch day and understand just what all the hype is about on her video.

We have learned plenty from more recent Marvel movies and DC Comics adaptations, but, in my opinion, the biggest lesson has been that giving actors a second (or third) chance at a comic book role really can pay off. For example, Ryan Reynolds’ correction of Deadpool after the ill-fated Green Lantern, Chris Evans’ perfect Captain America after his Human Torch was meh and The Losers lost, and Ben Affleck bouncing back from the divisive Daredevil as a kick-ass Batman. Speaking of movies starring the Caped Crusader, is it too late to give Alicia Silverstone a second shot? As if!

The 44-year-old Clueless star recently opened up about how her experience playing Batgirl in 1997 was tainted by much more than just Batman & Robin’s poor critical reception and disappointing box office returns. In fact, I would not blame Alicia Silverstone if she never again starred as another comic book character, unless we count voicing Queen Marlena in the upcoming animated miniseries Masters of the Universe: Revelation for Netflix as a second such role.

Perhaps the real problem is that the actress has not yet been given the right comic book character to bring to live action, and her true destiny lies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. That being said, I may just have the perfect solution in one of the following five Marvelous ladies whom Alicia Silverstone seems, to me, like an ideal candidate for, starting with one that would lead to a totally awesome reunion.

Ruth Lang

One thing about Scott Lang (the current holder of the Ant-Man moniker) that more casual Marvel fans may not know is that he has a sister named Ruth. Granted, the woman (who most notably took care of her niece, Cassie Lang, while Scott was held at the Ryker’s Island maximum security prison) only made a couple of appearances in the comics, but I see a great opportunity in bringing her into the MCU and especially with Alicia Silverstone.

That opportunity, in particular, lies in the fact that she would be once again playing the sibling of Paul Rudd. The Ant-Man actor made his big screen debut as Cher Horowitz’s step-brother turned love interest, Josh, in 1995’s Clueless. Even if it means squeezing Alicia Silverstone in for a brief cameo, this is a once-in-a-lifetime chance for a hilarious onscreen reunion that needs to happen.

Shocket Raccoon

Actually, Paul Rudd is not the only MCU actor whom Alicia Silverstone previously worked with. On her short-lived NBC dramedy Miss Match, her divorce attorney/matchmaker character shared a brief love connection with a younger Bradley Cooper, as the friend of her client’s ex-fiancé. This gives me an interesting idea.

Another character whom less devoted Marvel fans may not know about is Shocket Raccoon, whom you would be correct in assuming is a female clone of Rocket Raccoon (if that is what you assumed), created by the Colllector, whom Benicio del Toro played in Guardians of the Galaxy. Yet, like James Gunn reimagined the origin for Bradley Cooper's Rocket, I think rewriting Shocket as his fellow gun-totin', tough-talkin' love interest (perfected by Alicia Silverstone's voice) would be something very fun to include with the upcoming third volume of the Guardians films.

Moondragon

I do have another idea for a Guardians of the Galaxy-related character whom Alicia SIlverstone might be a good fit for: Moondragon, who was taught the ways of the Titan before later joining cosmic heroes. However, incorporating this bald, telekinetic badass would, once again, require a few creative liberties considering how, in the MCU continuity, Drax the Destroyer's daughter is dead.

As the story in the comics goes, before he became Drax, the earthly Arthur Douglas was murdered by Thanos, at which point his young daughter Heather was taken by the purple guy's father, Mentor, to Titan where she learned to activate her psychic abilities and studied hand-to-hand combat. I think James Gunn could, instead, bring Moondragon in as, say, Star Lord's old ravager rival or something and let Alicia Silverstone take it from there by reigniting the same ass-kicking, technically intelligent persona she brought to Batgirl... but better.

Abigail Brand

On the other hand, there is another ass-kicking Marvel heroine I think I would be even more excited to see Alicia Silverstone portray named Abigail Brand - a half-alien, half-mutant who was once an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. Not only would she be able to fit easily in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but there are clues that heavily suggest that her introduction into the continuity will come soon enough.

It was recently announced that Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury and Ben Mendehlson's Talos will be the central protagonists of a series inspired by the Secret Invasion comic book storyline, of which the extra-terrestrial defense organization S.W.O.R.D. (also already teased in WandaVision promos) plays a large role. The director of this agency is none other than the green-haired Abigail Brand, who apparently earned her rank at 28 in the comics. However, I could see an older iteration of the character being more believable, and Alicia Silverstone nailing the tough-as-nails portrayal required.

Black Cat

Speaking of long-awaited MCU debuts, there have actually been several characters whose introduction has been teased lately, and under very intriguing circumstances. Namely, Alfred Molina's portrayal of Doctor Octopus from Spider-Man 2 and Jamie Foxx's Electro from The Amazing Spider-Man 2 are reportedly slated to appear in Tom Holland's upcoming Spider-Man sequel, along with said villains' respective Peter Parkers, Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield.

Now, despite never receiving the chance to become her alter ego Black Cat, Felicia Hardy did appear in Garfield's universe (played by Felicity Jones), but never in Maguire's movies. Therefore, if this live-action Spider-Verse story indeed proves to be true and there is room to include the thieving femme fatale, make her the previously unseen Black Cat of the Sam Raimi trilogy, cast the still gorgeous as ever Alicia Silverstone, and watch the irresistible romantic head games begin.

Clueless was one of the defining movies of the 90s. It reflected Beverly Hills teen culture of the time--especially with the fashion and language. It was an iconic film that helped make stars of Alicia Silverstone, Paul Rudd, and Brittany Murphy. Nearly 25 years later and Clueless remains one of the most beloved teens movies of all time.

Clueless is one of those films that new generations constantly discover and love. The dynamic cast and characters are some of the reasons why the movieis still so memorable, cherished and dissected. From Tai (Brittany Murphy) to Elton (Jeremy Sisto), each character played a vital role in making this Emma reimagining a permanent part of pop culture history.

Let’s check in on some of the Clueless cast members and see some of their biggest roles since the release of the film. Spoiler alert: one of them is a small deal at Marvel.

Alicia Silverstone (Cher)

Alicia Silverstone played queen bee Cher in the Clueless movie. The 90s and early 2000s was a very busy time for Silverstone. After Clueless, she appeared in a series of cult and big budget movies, such as The Babysitter, Batman & Robin, Excess Baggage, and Blast from the Past. In 2001, she voiced the main character Sharon Spitz in the animated series Braceface. Silverstone played Sharonf rom 2001 to 2003.

In 2012, Alicia Silverstone briefly reunited with her Clueless co-star Jeremy Sisto in Suburgatory. Her most recent film projects include Diary of a Wimpy King: The Long Haul, The Killing of a Sacred Deer, the recent horror film The Lodge, and Valley Girl. In July 2020, she returns to the small screen in the Netflix adaptation of the beloved children’s book series The Baby-Sitters Club.

Paul Rudd (Josh)

Paul Rudd played Cher’s ex-step brother turned love interest, Josh, in Clueless. Paul Rudd has had the most successful career after this 90s hit film. He appeared in Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo + Juliet, starred opposite Jennifer Aniston in The Object of My Affection, The Cider House Rules, Wet Hot American Summer, Anchorman, The 40-Year Old Virgin, and I Love You, Man opposite Jason Segel.

In 1996, Paul Rudd appeared on the TV series Clueless as a character named Sonny. From 2002 to 2004, he had a recurring role as Phoebe (Lisa Kudrow)’s love interest turned husband on Friends. In 2006-2007, he appeared on several episodes of Reno 911!. Rudd also had roles in Veronica Mars, Parks and Recreation, Wet Hot American Summer the series, and iZombie.

His most recent work has included playing Scott Lang, Ant-Man in several Marvel movies, the Netflix film The Fundamentals of Caring, the upcoming Ghostbusters movie, and the Netflix series Living with Yourself.

Stacey Dash (Dionne)

Stacey Dash played Cher’s best friend Dionne in Clueless. After the movie, Dash stayed close to Beverly Hills by reprising her role as Dionne in the Clueless series from 1996 to 1999. In 2009 to 2011, she played Camille Rose in The Game, then joined the series Single Ladies. In 2016, she appeared in the Sharknado franchise by having a role in Sharknado: The 4th Awakens.

Stacey Dash also appeared in the films I Could Never Be Your Woman, Wild About Harry, The Thinning, and will play Mildred Jefferson in an upcoming film called Roe v. Wade.

Donald Faison (Murray)

Donald Faison played Dionne’s boyfriend Murray in Clueless. Following the movie, Faison appeared in the movies Waiting to Exhale, Can’t Hardly Wait, Trippin, Big Fat Liar, and Something New. He also appeared in the original Sabrina, the Teenage Witch series (the one with Melissa Joan-Hart). He also reprised his role as Murray in the Clueless series.

Donald Faison appeared in The WB’s Felicity. His most famous post-Clueless role was as Turk in Scrubs. In 2016, he hosted the series Winsanity, and from 2015 to 2018, Faison appeared in Drunk History. In 2019, Faison starred in the recently cancelled series Emergence. His recent movie appearances include Pitch Perfect, Kick-Ass 2, Wish I Was Here, and Little Evil.

Jeremy Sisto (Elton)

Jeremy Sisto played Elton, one of Cher’s rich friends who she tries to set up with Tai. Some of Sisto’s most famous post-Clueless work includes Some Girl, Angel Eyes, Thirteen, Wrong Turn, A Lot Like Love, and The Waitress. His more recent film work includes voicing Raf in Ferdinand and King Runeard in Frozen II.

Sisto appeared in episodes of The Wild Thornberrys, Rugrats, The Outer Limits, and Dawson’s Creek. His most memorable TV role was as Billy Chenowith in Six Feet Under. He also had a main role as Detective Cyrus Lupo in Law & Order, from 2008 to 2010. From 2011 to 2014, he was a lead character in Suburgatory. Then he appeared in short-lived series The Returned and Wicked City. Jeremy Sisto currently has a lead role in the CBS Dick Wolf drama FBI.

Breckin Meyer (Travis)

In Clueless, Breckin Meyer played Tai’s love interest, skateboard stoner Travis. He then appeared in another 90s teen classic Can’t Hardly Wait. He also appeared in 54, Go, Road Trip, Josie and the Pussycats, Kate & Leopold, Herbie Fully Loaded, and Ghosts of Girlfriends Past. In 2019, he was part of an ensemble cast for the Seth Green directed film Changeland. The cast also included Green, Brenda Song, Macaulay Culkin, and Clare Grant. In 2020, Meyer appears in Happily, a thriller comedy that also stars Joel McHale, Stephen Root, Natalie Morales, and Paul Scheer.

Breckin Meyer also appeared in the Clueless series but as a character named Harrison. He then built an impressive body of voice over work by voicing characters for King of the Hill, Robot Chicken, Family Guy, Mad, and Kim Possible. From 2011 to 2014, Meyer had a lead role in the series Franklin & Bash. Breckin Meyer’s most recent work includes appearances in Designated Survivor, The Fix, and American Dad!.

Elisa Donovan (Amber)

Elisa Donovan played one of Cher and Dionne long-time rivals Amber. She then had a bigger role as one of their enemies turned friends in the Clueless series. Donovan then appeared in the series Just Shoot Me!, Jack & Jill, NCIS, and had a main role on the Sabrina, the Teenage Witch series. From 2009 to 2011, Elisa Donovan played the lead character in In Gayle We Trust. She then appeared in a series of Christmas Television films, like 12 Wishes of Christmas and The Dog Who Saved the Holidays.

Elisa Donovan appeared in the films 10 Things I Hate About You, A Night at the Roxbury, A Golden Christmas, and Complacent. From 2012 to 2017, Donovan had her own blog on People Magazine’s website. Its main focus was celebrity motherhood. In May 2020, she participated in a virtual Sabrina, the Teenage Witch reunion for the organization Cast4Good, a group that reunites TV and movie casts to raise money for charity.

Wallace Shawn (Mr. Hall)

Wallace Shawn played Cher’s tough grader debate teacher Mr. Hall. After Clueless, Shawn appeared in the movies My Favorite Martian, The Haunted Mansion, Southland Tales, I Could Never Be Your Woman, and Marriage Story. In 2020, he appeared in the Disney+ film Timmy Failure: Mistakes Were Made. Wallace Shawn is set to appear in the Woody Allen film Rifkin’s Festival.

Many people will most likely recognize Wallace Shawn for his voice-over work in the Toy Story movies. He voices the toy dinosaur Rex. Shawn also reprised his role s Mr. Hall in the Clueless series. Some of his most memorable TV appearances were in Ally McBeal, Crossing Jordan, Family Guy, The L Word, Gossip Girl, and Mozart in the Jungle. Wallace Shawn currently has a recurring role on Young Sheldon.

Dan Hedaya (Mr. Horowitz)

Dan Hedaya played Cher’s tough, lawyer dad Mel Horowitz in Clueless. Hedaya has had a pretty consistent career since the film. He appeared in The First Wives Club, Ransom, Marvin’s Room, A Life Less Ordinary, A Night at the Roxbury, Dick, Shaft, and Mulholland Drive. He also appeared in Swimfan, Strangers with Candy, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

Hedaya will appear in an upcoming drama called The God Committee. He’ll star alongside Kelsey Grammer, Julia Stiles, Colman Domingo, and Janeane Garofalo. The God Committee was set to premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2020, but the festival was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Dan Hedaya has appeared in the series ER, Law & Order, Judging Amy, Yes, Dear, and Person of Interest. Hadaya also appeared in Gotham, The Mindy Project, Blue Bloods, and Odd Mom Out.

Twink Caplan (Miss Geist)

Twink Caplan played the good natured Miss. Geist in Clueless. She also reprised her role in the Clueless series. Caplan is one of the many Clueless alumni to appear in A Night at the Roxbury. Caplan appeared in the shows Just Shoot Me, Cousin Skeeter, CSI, Frasier, and Feud. In 2020, she appears in the Quibi series Royalties. It stars Darren Criss and Kether Donohue. Twink Caplan also appeared in the films I Could Never Be Your Woman, Loser, Crazy as Hell, and 9 Full Moons.

Justin Walker (Christian)

In Clueless, Justin Walker played Cher’s love interest Christian, who she later learned might be gay. Walker appeared in a few screen projects after Clueless, including Splendor Falls, V.I.P, Big Monster on Campus, and A.P.U.: Art, Pot, and Underwear. According to Bustle, in 2005, Walker opened up a Tacone Flavor Grill franchise in Rancho Mirage, CA. He also co-owns a fantasy sports website called Drafters.

Brittany Murphy (Tai)

Brittany Murphy played Dionne and Cher’s more clueless new friend Tai in Clueless. Murphy’s career was on the rise after Clueless, appearing in Freeway, Drop Dead Gorgeous, Girl, interrupted, Summer Catch, and Riding in Cars with Boys. She then had roles in the Eminem fictionalized biopic 8 Miles, co-starred with Ashton Kutcher in Just Married, and starred opposite Dakota Fanning in Uptown Girls.

Murphy appeared in other big budget movies like Sin City and Happy Feet. Her last film was Something Wicked, which was shot in 2009, but not released until 2014. Brittany Murphy also appeared as a new character in the Clueless TV series. Her most famous TV role was as the voice of Luanne in King of the Hill. Tragically, Murphy died of pneumonia in 2009.

There a lot of reasons to not be a big fan of Batman & Robin. Fans of Tim Burton's grim aesthetic from 1989's Batman and the follow up Batman Returns, didn't care for the more colorful and humorous and back to basics take on the character from new director Joel Schumacher. And Batman & Robin takes all of that colorful nonsense to an extreme level. However, while fans may have had their differences with the movie, it turns out that actress Alicia Silverstone did as well.

In a recent interview Batgirl actress Alicia Silverstone talked about the experience that came after filming Batman & Robin, which included a lot of unnecessary public discussion of her weight. However, Silverstone also admitted there that the production of the movie itself wasn't a lot of fun. Speaking with our own Reelblend podcast, Silverstone explained more about what it was about the experience that kept it from being fun, and it wasn't all the uncomfortable costume. According to Silverstone...

It wasn't all bad news. Alicia Silverstone says that she loved working with the likes of George Clooney. However, it seems that, in addition to finding the costume uncomfortable, Silverstone just didn't find the acting in the movie particularly satisfying. She makes it clear that Batman & Robin was far from the worst experience she's ever had, but it wasn't the best either. Of course, when you're comparing things to working with David Mamet or Kenneth Branagh, the bar is pretty high.

It seems Alicia Silverstone just didn't care for the more action focused filmmaking that comes with making a superhero movie. And Batman & Robin, it has to be said, leaned harder than most into the true meaning of the term "comic book." A lot of the dialogue is intentionally melodramatic or, in the case of Arnold Schwarzenegger's Mr. Freeze, just plain silly. Shakespeare, it is not.

As Alicia Silverstone herself says, she might have a very different feeling about making a movie like Batman & Robin now than she did when she was 18. She hasn't made many big budget movies like that since, but perhaps she'll get a chance to have more fun in a superhero movie somewhere down the road.

Mention the name “Alicia Silverstone” and a handful of roles likely leap to mind. Cher, naturally, as Clueless helped put Silverstone on the map. But she also played Batgirl during a time when superhero movies were finding their way. She broke onto the scene as The Crush, and even went by “that Aerosmith chick” thanks to gigs in two music videos by the rock and roll icons.

Just, don’t ever call her that!

1997's Batman & Robin is not exactly the most fondly remembered movie in the world. The fourth film in Warner Bros. original Batman franchise has been called one of the worst movies in the world. Whether you ascribe to that particular perspective on the film, I would hope we can all agree that insults directed at the actors who were in it were never OK. However, Alicia Silverstone had to deal with a lot of that.

The Clueless actress was a star on the rise when she took the role of Batgirl in the Joel Schumacher directed movie. She tells The Guardian that making the movie was not the best filmmaking experience of her career and what followed after filming was over probably wasn't either. Alicia Silverstone had to deal with a lot of crude comments about her weight. The woman playing Batgirl would be called "Fatgirl" in the media, even by paparazzi photographers trying to get a picture. It would be easy for somebody in her position to take the negativity to heart, but Silverstone says that, while the comments did hurt, she was mostly able to keep everything in perspective. According to the former Batgirl...

Can you even imagine what it would have been like if Twitter had been a thing in the '90s?

There's little to argue with in regards to the idea that making fun of somebody's weight is unkind and not something one human should be doing to another. It's impossible not to let something like that get to you a little, but it does seem like Alicia Silverstone took it in stride, to the degree one can. She never started to actually believe the comments.

Of course, Batman & Robin wasn't the end of things for her, but Alicia Silverstone never seems to have lost the right perspective. She goes on to say that when she found her working conditions to be less than favorable, she would just use it as a learning experience to not put herself in that position again. It's likely for this reason that we haven't seen Silverstone in those major movie roles like we did back then. She just didn't find the experience to her liking, and so she's done with it.

While I'm not sure Batman & Robin is the worst movie ever, it's one that certainly has issues, but Alicia Silverstone's look is not one of them.

It would be nice to be able to say this sort of behavior is a relic of the past, but it certainly isn't. Hopefully, other celebrities dealing with issues today can deal with it in much the same way that Alicia Silverstone did.

Clueless turns 25 this year? As if. It feels like only yesterday when Cher (Alicia Silverstone), Tai (Brittany Murphy), Dionne (Stacey Dash) and their crew were applying the societal norms of Jane Austen’s 1815 novel Emma to Los Angeles, circa 1995. And in the process, they were catapulting the cast to superstardom, creating a seminal teen comedy that continues to speak to kids of all generations as they grapple with “Sex. Clothes. Popularity. Whatever.”

Standing on the shoulders of John Hughes (The Breakfast Club, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off), Clueless comprehended how Southern California teens were communicating – in class, at home with their parents, at parties or with their significant others. Audiences have been rollin’ with the homies and citing the filmography of Mel Gibson ever since.

We haven’t tired of talking about Clueless. The timeless staple seems to grow more mature and intelligent with age. Probably because teenagers don’t evolve quite as much as they might be led to believe. But how does Cher herself, Alicia Silverstone, feel about the pop-culture staple. After all, she’s been fielding questions about it from fans for 25 years… or, the better part of her professional life. Silverstone recently came on our ReelBlend podcast to promote her latest film, Bad Therapy. When we asked if, like William Shatner and Star Trek, she ever reached a point in her life where she grew tired of talking about Clueless, the actress candidly replied:

The thing about a Hollywood career, though, is that you never really know what is going to hit, even when you are working on it. Alicia Silverstone, in 1995, had a string of mid-sized successes before she even accepted the role of Cher in Clueless. And with each role, she was becoming more and more of a household name. And that, she recalls, brought its own unique pressures.

One unfortunate side effect of being that famous, at such a young age? Sometimes you get pigeonholed by pop culture, and massive fanbases only see you as one thing. You might assume that the persona of Cher stuck to Alicia Silverstone like a tight-fitting Calvin Klein dress. She says, though, that it was another role from that time frame:

We all look back fondly on Clueless. Even Silverstone. But as the comedy turns 25, she credits it for teaching her how different – and in this case, better – once she had some distance from the fame. In Silverstone’s own words, she found activism, which sent her down paths that led to her own Kind Life brand. (Read either The Kind Diet or The Kind Mama, to get an idea of her beliefs in those realms.) And her post-Clueless life led her a s far away from Beverly Hills as you might imagine. Yes, even south of Sunset. Silverstone said:

And 25 years after the movie made its debut, fans still care, and for that, Silverstone is thankful.

The actress has been on a hot streak as of late, juggling projects as diverse as the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series, and Yorgo Lanthomos’ The Killing of a Sacred Deer. We spoke to her on behalf of the dark relationship drama Bad Therapy, which will make its VOD debut on April 17.

Alicia Silverstone is a proud vegan. She's also a proud mother, and the Clueless actress feels the two go hand-in-hand in some ways. The film and television star believes that, thanks to the family's vegan lifestyle, her son has never needed medicine. Here's what the actress and PETA spokesperson said about the matter.

The surprising quote came from Alicia Silverstone's conversation with Page Six. When talking about her 7-year-old son, Bear Blu Jarecki, she claims that because he has been raised on the vegan lifestyle, he has "never" needed to take medicine, with only the occasional cold ever making him sick from time-to-time. Since he's being raised healthy and he's eating healthy, Silverstone claims the green lifestyle does a whole lot of good for him.

Alicia Silverstone has been a very outspoken vegan throughout the past two decades. In fact, she claims she first became a vegan around the age of 21, and the 42-year-old actress has remained a vegan throughout that span of time. Alas, it has an uphill battle for her to make the conversation more socially accepted. She claims there were times where she had to explain what it meant to be a vegan, and how it brought her so many unique benefits.

Yeah, some people are still completely "As IF" about being vegan, but at least they have a better understanding of the concept. But Alicia Silverstone hasn't backed down. She's built a second lifestyle for herself based on her vegan beliefs. She's written cookbooks for vegans, and she has spoken out in many public settings about what it means to be a vegan, and how abstaining from all animal products has served her and her son well throughout the years.

Still, this revelation is definitely a very surprising one. Even with the benefits that are often prescribed to vegans, one would think not needing medicine would be mentioned more regularly by others. But Alicia Silverstone was just speaking for herself and her son at this point. If the takeaway is that her son has had a pretty healthy life so far, good for him. We can only hope it stays that way.

Paramount Network's Lip Sync Battle has given audiences some iconic throwback performances in the past, although its safe to say its upcoming performance is one of the greatest to date. To promote her new show American Woman, actress Alicia Silverstone rocked the Lip Sync Battle stage by reviving her most iconic film character, Clueless' Cher Horowitz, for a rousing rendition of Iggy Azalea's "Fancy." Cher is alive and dancing in 2018, as if she wouldn't be, and the world is totally better for this clip.

Chrissy Teigen took the words right out of our mouths. Who would've thought the world needed this so badly? I mean, besides everyone.

Alicia Silverstone slipped right back into Cher's arguably most memorable outfit to strut her stuff for the camera and fans, and it was 1995 all over again. Silverstone gets extra credit for doing the whole shebang in platform heels, too, although we can all hope she didn't attempt to drive home with them on afterward! The Lip Sync Battle clip is just a tease of Silverstone's full performance, and those interested will get to watch her full battle against actress Mena Suvari on Paramount Network Thursday, June 14.

Alicia Silverstone's "Fancy" performance on Lip Sync Battle is a double tribute of sorts. So for anyone who thought a track from the Clueless soundtrack may have been more appropriate, be sure to actually watch Iggy Azalea's video for the song, which is essentially a recreation of various scenes from the hit comedy, with Azalea dressed as Cher.

Lip Sync Battle would've really made Clueless fans happy had they snagged someone like Paul Rudd or Donald Faison for a full-blown reunion show, but alas, the clip doesn't make it look like anything like that happened. (But our fingers are still crossed.) The episode is just fine in keeping its theme tied to leading ladies of the '90s, with Alicia Silverstone taking on Mena Suvari of American Pie and American Beauty fame. Because Silverstone and Suvari are also co-stars in the Paramount Network dramedy American Woman, audiences shouldn't be surprised if some sort of cross-promotion goes down in the midst of this exciting battle. But most importantly, can anyone imagine Suvari can do anything to top Silverstone resurrecting Cher in 2018?

Alicia Silverstone's return to live-action television is almost complete. Prospective viewers can now catch their first official glimpse of Silverstone in the new Paramount Network comedy, American Woman. The series follows Silverstone's Bonnie Nolan as she navigates single motherhood in the 1970s alongside her two best friends. Having faced the betrayal of her philandering husband, Bonnie sets out to raise their two daughters as she joins the workforce and explores her newfound independence. As you can tell from the trailer, American Woman is a comedy that deals with dramatic situations, all of which will be underscored with the proper comic elements. Co-starring alongside Alicia Silverstone are Mena Suvari and Jennifer Bartels, who star as Bonnie's best friends, Kathleen and Diana, respectively. Based on the trailer, Bonnie's fresh foray into the dating scene and work life will be nothing shy of complicated and entertaining.

American Woman is loosely based on the early life of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Kyle Richards. Richards' mom is the basis for Alicia Silverstone's fiery protagonist. In Season 7, Real Housewives steadily documented Richards' work as she prepped American Woman. Unlike many "based on a true story" adaptations, American Woman has not named its characters after their real-life counterparts, which means the series' utilization of dramatic license will be far less problematic for those seeking the truth in "true story."

The debut season of American Woman will comprise 12 episodes with each installment totaling a half-hour in length. As you can tell from the trailer, the series will be a single-camera sitcom like ABC's Fresh Off the Boat and The Goldbergs, so do not expect any laugh tracks. Think The Wonder Years meets Sex and the City, which is not a combination that many viewers probably ever expected to see on the small screen!

American Woman marks Alicia Silverstone's first starring role on a television series since the short-lived 2003 series, Miss Match, which was an hour-long dramedy. The actress seems to be channeling a bit of Cher Horowitz in the trailer for American Woman, although Cher's Valley Girl accent is completely absent. Silverstone is one of the rare actresses who can equally excel in comedic and dramatic storylines, and American Woman seems primed to leverage that gift.

Before American Woman premieres, Variety reports the show will be among those screened at the ATX Television Festival. Kyle Richards will join Alicia Silverstone and other cast members for the Q&A session that will accompany the screening.

Pop culture is constantly revisiting peak moments from the past, and for all the big movies and TV shows from the '90s that are getting remade, we still haven't seen the classic 1995 teen comedy Clueless making any waves for potential sequels or remakes. But fans can still rejoice, because Alicia Silverstone jumped back in time 22 years to wear one instantly recognizable Clueless outfit for an upcoming episode of Lip Sync Battle. Check it out!

As if we could possibly look at Alicia Silverstone once again dressed in Cher Horowitz's signature yellow plaid outfit and not get butt crazy excited for her Lip Sync Battle debut. Silverstone appears to be frozen in time, and looks like she could very easily take part in a Clueless follow-up without the story needing to be take place two decades after the original feature. Will any of her Clueless co-stars (such as Stacey Dash, Donald Faison or Paul Rudd) show up for surprise guest appearances? Fans will be wiggin' and buggin' if the show producers don't make that happen.

Lip Sync Battle often features contestants that have big projects on the horizon, and Alicia Silverstone will appear on the Spike series along with Mena Suvari, her co-star in the upcoming Paramount Network series American Woman, which is based on the real-life story of Real Housewives star Kyle Richards. We're in the midst of a renaissance for the horror and thriller genre of films. Rather than stale sequels and predictable films hitting the silver screen, we've seen a variety of new franchises and original horror films hit the theater over the past few years. Many of the riskier horror films are produced by Film4, and now it seems they've struck again with Yorgos Lanthimos' The Killing of a Sacred Deer. The director of The Lobster is once again hoping to unnerve audiences this fall, and the first trailer for Sacred Deer certainly does that job in spades. Check it out.

Did you just get the chills too? The above trailer excites and intrigues, while also keeping the majority of the film's contents thoroughly under wraps. But let's break down what we're being shown.

The Killing of a Sacred Deer revolves around the Murphy family. Colin Farrell and Nicole Kidman are the parents of said family, and they've got a young daughter and son in tow. Steven Murphy (Farrell) is a surgeon who has recently come in contact with a mysterious illness that is affecting largely young children. Said virus eventually causes paralysis in the victim, and from the looks of the trailer it seems that the Murphy children may end up contracting it, making the mystery revolving around its cause far more personal.

Furthermore, it Steven Murphy seems to have formed a close relationship with a sinister young man named Matthew, played by The Night Of's Bill Camp. The trailer keeps things mysterious and brief, but it seems that both Steven and his wife Anna will be manipulated by the young boy, which will no doubt put doubts in their marriage- especially when their children end up falling ill as well.

The cast of The Killing of a Sacred Deer is pretty small, but having Nicole Kidman and Colin Farrell leading the project will no doubt help legitimize the film and put butts in movie theater seats. Nicole Kidman is currently riding high after her tremendous performance in HBO's Big Little Lies, which she was also produced. Colin Farrell has always been a major film star as well, and has recently captured audiences with his role in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Rounding out the adult cast is Alicia Silverstone, which seems like a major win for the 90s icon. She's in good company, and could very well see a resurgence in her film career if the film is critically acclaimed.

But The Killing of a Sacred Deer does have a few aspects in its way to success, most notably the release date. The film is arriving at the end of October, which makes perfect sense given the Halloween season and audience's penchant for scared at around this time. Unfortunately, there will be some tough competition at the box office, as Sacred Deer isn't the only horror film arriving at that time.

The upcoming psychological thriller have to compete with the long awaited Saw sequel Jigsaw, as well as slasher Happy Death Day and The Snowman. And while the latter two will be released a few week's prior to Jigsaw and The Killing of a Sacred Deer, that's still four exciting horror movies that will be attempting to win over moviegoers in a short amount of time.

Although Patty Jenkins' Wonder Woman was released about a month ago, the conversation regarding the film's contents, critical reception, and box office performance has only continued. And while both Marvel and DC seem to agree about the significance of the blockbuster's success, it now appears that not everyone in Hollywood is quite as enthralled by Wonder Woman. In particular, Clueless actress Alicia Silverstone seems to be clueless as to why everyone is so excited about Wonder Woman's female lead. In her opinion, there are already plenty of female-led films of significance, including her own.

Alicia Silverstone recently sat down with Variety to discuss the climate of film production, especially as it regards to women. In that conversation, she revealed that she didn't think Wonder Woman was as significant, as audiences already have loved female-led films before.

She's totally buggin'. Although there have been plenty of female-led films before, I think Alicia Silverstone might be missing the significance of Wonder Woman's success.

The superhero genre is the most profitable one in Hollywood right now. Each film makes millions and millions of dollars at the box office, and team up movies like Captain America: Civil War are pop culture events. So having the genre be completely focused on male protagonists has the potential to send the wrong message to young girls in the audience, and is unfair for the many talented actresses out there. But Wonder Woman is the shining example of just how powerful, lucrative, and acclaimed superhero movies can be, especially those directed by and starring women.

So while Alicia Silverstone is right in assessing that this isn't the first time that leading ladies have dominated the box office, it IS a first for the film world's most wildly popular genre. And as the world of TV and film aids to become a more inclusive place, the timing for Wonder Woman's victory is important.

While I understand the importance of films like Bridesmaids, it's hard to put teen comedies like Mean Girls and Clueless on the same level. While they're classics and I can quote the entire script, those movies revolved around petty high schoolers. Wonder Woman deals with a complicated and compassionate young woman who is the most powerful person in any room. I'm not sure the comparison really stands up.

If there's one decade that has found a resurgence in popularity recently, it's the 1990s. With the trend of nostalgia resulting in major money and tons of reboots, 90s culture seem to be given new life. Clueless is one of the most iconic movies of the decade, catapulting Alicia Silverstone into superstardom and changing the lexicon of 90s teenagers. Accomplished filmmaker Amy Heckerling wrote and directed the comedy, where she developed the original slang that Cher and her gaggle of pals used throughout the movie. So how exactly did she come up with their lingo? It turns out, it was some hard work.

Amy Heckerling has discussed Clueless quite a bit lately, as the film recently screened in Los Angeles. When speaking with RogerEbert.com, she revealed the almost educational approach she took to developing the movie's slang, saying:

It turns out that it takes a lot of intelligence to make such a ditzy set of characters. But the common vocabulary shared between characters like Cher, Dionne, and Tai helped make Clueless such an iconic and beloved movie. And while the slang has changed through the years, the film still holds up because of how curated the dialogue was.

Clueless featured some pretty specific references and quotable lines that managed to help it stand out. For instance, attractive men and women were referred to as Baldwins and bettys respectively. And the ditzy characters often recited nuanced and complicated thoughts, while also referencing whatever trivial teenage problems they were having. As Brittany Murphy's Tai says "You guys talk like grown ups", while also featuring plenty of pop culture references.

Speaking of Tai, her juxtaposition and speaking pattern made for another excellent aspect of the dialogue and slang. The late actress exaggerated her natural accent, and would use more typical street slang for the 90s. Eventually Cher helps change her vocabulary and accent, mimicking the protagonist, and not just sporadically.

As Clueless continues to age like a fine wine, we'll have Amy Heckerling's detail oriented work to thank. I'm kvelling!

The 1990's was a pretty bizarre decade all things considered, and gave birth to some ridiculous (but beloved) trends. And there are few movies that are as iconic in 90's culture than the valley girl comedy Clueless. Starring Alicia Silverstone and Brittany Murphy, Clueless has remained in the lexicon of pop culture for the past 20+ years. We can quote the dialogue, we love the iconic costumes, and rapper Iggy Azelia even did a spin on the film with her debut single "Fancy". And now Silverstone, aka our homegirl Cher Horowitz, has revealed her biggest regret about her most popular film role: not keeping the clothes.

Clueless recently screened at Amazon Studios in Hollywood, with Alicia Silverstone in the audience. When speaking with ET about her role, Silverstone revealed that she foolishly got rid of Cher's wardrobe in the years following the film's release.

As if! I guess Amber doesn't have to go through Cher's closet anymore, because all the iconic skirt suits and Alaia dresses are gone. I'm sure she feels impotent and out of control, which she really hates.

Now that I'm done quoting Clueless (mostly), let's actually talk about Alicia Silverstone's comment. In a way, I can't fault her for getting rid of Cher's iconic looks. She could obviously never wear these out in public and take herself seriously, so I'm sure it was just taking up space in her closet. And as she got older, I'm sure the mother/actress/activist has better things to do than tend to Cher Horowitz's wardrobe.

Then again, Alicia Silverstone could have gotten rid of the pieces in a more constructive matter. There are plenty of museums and exhibits which curate former film costumes, and Cher's looks were so iconic that they likely could have been included in quite a few of them. This move would have allowed the costumes to live on, while also giving Silverstone some room in her closet. Alternatively, they could have been sold for charity. But I guess hindsight is 20/20.

Clueless will likely remain Alicia Silverstone's career defining moment. She played the ditzy but sweet Cher with such perfection that it's hard to imagine anyone else in the role. In her monologue about Haitians in America, Silverstone actually pronounced the word incorrectly, making for an accidental stroke of comedic brilliance and layer to the scene. What a Betty, right?

Watching a movie in the comfort of your own home can be fun, but sometimes seeing one of your favorite flicks in a group environment can make it even more enjoyable. While not nearly as common as typical theatrical showings, sometimes there are opportunities to take in an older movie among fellow fans. For instance, on Sunday, May 28, there was a special Cinespia screening of Clueless at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery in Los Angeles, and Cher Horowitz herself, Alicia Silverstone, stopped by to introduce the beloved 1990s coming-of-age comedy. She even dropped her character's trademark "Whatever!" at the end. What, did you think she wouldn't take the opportunity to do that? As if!

Before the Clueless screening kicked off, Alicia Silverstone delivered some opening words to all the adoring fans, and as you can see in the video above (from Twitter user laur_eli) when some started yelling out for her to say one of Cher's catchphrases from the movie, she went with "Whatever" to satisfy the crowd. Silverstone brought her six-year-old son Bear Blu to the event, and Breckin Meyer, who played Travis Birkenstock in Clueless, was also there. Silverstone and Meyer posed together for some pictures at the screening, and if you look at them now compared to in the mid-1990s, it's clear they've aged wonderfully.

A loose adaptation of the Jane Austen novel Emma, Clueless followed Cher Horowitz, a popular and wealthy student in Beverly Hills navigating the ins and outs of 1990s high school life. Along with Breckin Meyer as Travis, the movie's cast included Stacey Dash as Dionne Davenport, Brittany Murphy as Tai Frasier, Elisa Donovan as Amber Mariens, Paul Rudd as Josh Lucas, Dan Hedaya as Mel Horowitz, Donald Faison as Murray Duvall and Wallace Shawn as Mr. Hall. Clueless was a sleeper hit in 1995, earning mostly positive reviews and collecting over $56 million worldwide off a $12 million budget. A spinoff TV series later aired for three seasons, but only Dash, Donovan, Faison and Shawn reprised their roles. Rachel Blanchard succeeded Silverstone as Cher.

Rarely do actors get a second chance at a major role after taking a long time off. Sean Connery infamously returned to James Bond's tux for Never Say Never Again, and Harrison Ford dusted off Han Solo's blaster when J.J. Abrams brought Star Wars off the shelf. These actors might feel they were better in these roles at a later age, because they're wiser, and more experienced. That's the angle Alicia Silverstone takes when asked if she'd make a better Batgirl now than she did back in 1997 with the atrociously campy Batman & Robin. The Clueless star posits:

Because we know you are making a new Batgirl movie, and while you have said in the past that you are looking for relative unknown and possibly a newcomer, the concept of Alicia Silverstone playing the original Batgirl, brought in to mentor a younger warrior, is intriguing.

Alicia Silverstone was talking with USA Today, and opened up about her Batrigl past. The actress stepped into the Batgirl suit as a member of Joel Schumacher's ensemble, fighting alongside Chris O'Donnell's Robin and George Clooney's Batman -- his first stint in the nippled costume. A sequel to Batman Forever, as well as the movie that killed the Bat franchise for several years, Batman & Robin was a neon-drenched pop-art painting that's largely remembered for its grotesque excessiveness, largely personified by the incessant puns dished out by Arnold Schwarzenegger's Mr. Freeze. Alicia Silverstone will star in American Woman, which will be a drama/comedy set in the 1970s. Silverstone will play Bonnie, who has left her husband and must find a way to raise her two daughters in the midst of a rising movement of feminism and sexual exploration. Luckily, Bonnie will have a little help from her friends in looking after her kids, with her best friends Kathleen and Diana lending a hand in the girls' lives as well. The ladies seize their own destinies in a culture not entirely ready to embrace their independence, and we'll spend twelve episodes watching them do it in the first season.

All in all, American Woman sounds a little bit like a TV Land version of Fuller House, if Fuller House was set 40 years ago and the Tanner family was into discussing sexuality. (Have mercy.) Alicia Silverstone is joined in the cast by Mena Suvari and Jennifer Bartels, who will play Kathleen and Diana, respectively. Makenna James of Transparent and Lia Ryan McHugh of A Haunting will play Bonnie's daughters.

The show is based on the upbringing of Kyle Richards, whose biggest claim to fame is her stint on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. Richards is on board American Woman as an executive producer, so she may be able to bring some of her wildest experiences as a child to the small screen. John Riggi of 30 Rock is writing and executive producing, and Alex Hardcastle of You're The Worst directed the pilot. Emmy-winner John Wills will executive produce as well, bringing his experiences from shows like ER and The West Wing to American Woman.

Alicia Silverstone signed on for American Woman several months ago when the project was only in the pilot stage. TV Land evidently has enough faith in the premise and what Silverstone brings to the leading role that a full first season has been ordered. Hopefully American Woman will go down as the actress' big break into live-action TV as a leading lady. She had a memorable guest run on Suburgatory back in 2012; American Woman will be the first time that she is truly showcased on television.

American Woman will debut on TV Land at some point in 2017. No official release date has yet been set, so be sure to check out our midseason TV premiere schedule to see what you'll be able to watch to pass the time.

Alicia Silverstone hasn't had too much luck on television over the years, although not for lack of trying. She's starred in no less than five pilots that were unsold or unaired, and Fox, ABC, NBC, and Lifetime were all busts for her. Now, she's looking to jump-start her TV career with a new sitcom project called American Woman that was picked up to pilot by TV Land.

American Woman will be set in the 1970s, and it is inspired by the life of Kyle Richards of Real Housewives fame. In it, Alicia Silverstone will play Bonnie Nolan, who leaves her husband and enters a world of cultural and sexual upheaval. She and her two daughters must adapt to their new circumstances and strike a new sort of independence despite opposition from some of the more conservative people around them. The pilot was written by John Riggi of 30 Rock fame, according to THR. Riggi will be joined by John Wells of Shameless and The West Wing to executive produce. Production was originally planned to take place in Atlanta, but the location was changed to Los Angeles for Silverstone's convenience.

Although Alicia Silverstone doesn't have the best track record when it comes to pilots recently, American Woman could finally be the project that makes it to series. She may have better luck with the relatively small TV Land than she did on the major networks; her biggest shot was the 2003 NBC sitcom Miss Match, but that was canceled in the middle of its first season. Silverstone did nab parts on Suburgatory in 2012 and Making a Scene with James Franco in 2015 that proved she has the acting chops to carve out her place on TV.

Silverstone is much better known for her film roles than television. The 90s were a big time for her early career when she starred as Cher in the infinitely quotable 1995 movie Clueless, later tackling the part of Batgirl in the infamous Batman & Robin in 1997. She's dabbled in just about every genre since, ranging from the kids' romp Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed in 2004 to the comedy horror Vamps in 2012 to the romcom Who Gets the Dog? for 2016. If American Woman is successful, Silverstone may end up spending more time on the small screen than the big screen.

TV Land has had some hits and misses over the years as original programming has begun to replace classic series, and American Woman sounds like it will be unlike anything else on the network. A success story with this new sitcom could mean that TV Land will continue branching out in the future. At the very least, Real Housewives fans might be motivated to give American Woman a try. We shouldn't expect the series inspired by Kyle Richards' life to have much in common with Real Housewives, but TV Land's new project could still be of interest.

If you’re of a certain age, Amy Heckerling’s 1995’s teen comedy Clueless is a definitive piece of cinema. It both captured and defined a particular moment in popular culture, and beyond, and introduced the world to Alicia Silverstone and Paul Rudd. And it also made people say "as if" too much. But it could have been a very different movie as there were a slew of young actresses in line for the lead role of Cher, including Angelina Jolie.

To mark the 20th anniversary of Clueless, Vanity Fair published an expert from Jen Chaney’s oral history of the update of Jane Austen’s novel Emma (for as different as they are, the two are remarkably similar). Over the course of the interviews, which include Heckerling, Silverstone, Rudd, producer Twink Caplan (who also plays Miss Geist), and tons of other players, it comes out that not only was Jolie in the running for the Cher part, but so were Alicia Witt, Tiffany Amber Thiessen, Keri Russell, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Reese Witherspoon.

Heckerling says she had her heart set on Silverstone for the role. However, when the project was still at Fox, where it was originally being developed a TV show and was once called I Was a Teenage Teenager, the studio wanted her to look at more options, which is how she came to check out others on the list. Silverstone became a sizeable star, but it’s crazy to look at the names on this list and see what they’ve all done in their own non-Clueless careers.

Angelina Jolie, of course, went on to become one of the biggest female movie stars on the planet, collecting a slew of awards hard wear along they way, like her Oscar for Girl, Interrupted. Not only is she still a box office juggernaut on screen, fronting hit movies like Maleficent, she’s also started directing prestigious movies like Unbreakable and an upcoming ivory poacher drama that has awards bait written all over it.

Alicia Witt first came to the attention of the general public in the mid-1990s as the daughter on Cybill Shepherd’s sitcom Cybill, and has worked steadily in TV and films ever since, including a long run on Law & Order: Criminal Intent, acclaimed high school football drama Friday Night Lights, and a stint on FX’s modern western noir Justified, just to name a few. We’ll also always lover her because of her turn in John Waters’ Cecil B. Demented.

Best known as Kelly Kapowski, the perky cheerleader and object of affection for both Zack Morris and A.C. Slater on teen sitcom Saved by the Bell, Tiffani Amber Thiessen (now just Tiffany Thiessen, though we can never call her that) is as busy as ever. She went on to have a lengthy run on Beverly Hills 90210, USA’s White Collar, and even reprised her role as Kelly in an awesome bit on The Tonight Show earlier this year.

When she came to prominence on the J.J. Abrams-created Felicity, Keri Russell was known as the girl with the big hair—it was quite a to-do when she cut it all off. After working steadily, though never becoming a huge star, Russell has been kicking ass, figuratively and literally, on FX’s fantastic The Americans, and even reteamed with Felicity co-creator Matt Reeves for Dawn of the Planet of the Apes last year.

Since not appearing in Clueless, Gwyneth Paltrow has done pretty well for herself, appearing in a string of Marvel movies, winning all kinds of critical acclaim, and even took a foray into TV and singing with Glee. Sure, she’d probably rather we don’t talk about Shallow Hal, but that Academy Award for Shakespeare in Love must go a long way to helping her not care too much about that.

Reese Witherspoon starred in her own definitive, though admittedly very different, high school movie, 1999’s Election (and Cruel Intentions the same year). Ever since, she’s been wowing audiences in a variety of roles across numerous genres in big and little films (though maybe let’s not dwell to long on Hot Pursuit). She won an Oscar for her portrayal of June Carter Cash in Walk the Line and even founded a production company with the express goal of finding and creating quality roles for women in movies.

Alicia Silverstone starring in a Lifetime pilot? As if! Actually, it's happening. The Clueless star has dabbled in TV before, with a starring role in the one-season NBC series Miss Match about a decade ago and she's had other small screen appearances since. Tonight comes word that she's set to star in the Lifetime drama pilot HR, which lifts the cast contingency on the project.

Written by Glenn Porter, HR will star Silverstone as an uptight human resources director for a major company, whose outlook is altered drastically due to a head injury. It affects her work, and from the sound of it, inspires big changes at the global company where she works. Deadline says the pilot received a pickup from Lifetime last summer, contingent on casting the lead, which is now has. So things will move forward in the development stage with Alicia Silverstone as the lead.

Given how well things have gone for The Client List, which stars Jennifer Love Hewitt, it's not especially surprising that Lifetime would give the thumbs-up to another 90s star headlining one of their potential series. Beyond that, the HR role sounds like it has some quirky potential, which would be a nice fit for Silverstone, who's proven adept at playing up the humor. And the Clueless star has been popping up in random places lately, with multiple appearances on ABC's Suburgatory and a starring role opposite Krysten Ritter in Amy Heckerling's cute vampire flick Vamps. But a role like this, should things work out for HR, could put her back in a brighter spotlight. So we'll have to wait and see how things go for the project moving forward.

After falling into obscurity for a few years, Alicia Silverstone is starting to make her way back. She recently reunited with her director Amy Heckerling to make the comedy Vamps, she has a part in the ensemble election parody Butter, and she recently took parts in Marc Turtletaub's Gods Behaving Badly and Chris Nelson's Ass Backwards. And the hits just keep coming as, according to Variety she's found yet another new gig.

The trade reports that Silverstone and Twilight’s Billy Burke have taken parts in the coming-of-age dramedy Jesus in Cowboy Boots. The film is about a young woman (Amanda Michalka) who can’t get attention from her mother and turns to an imaginary friend called The Cowboy. Silverstone will play Michalka’s mother while Burke will be the Cowboy. In a strange twist, the protagonist lives in a community established in “an abandoned drive-in movie lot along the Texas-Oklahoma border.” William Carey wrote and is directing the movie, which started production last week. The project marks Carey's feature debut, however, he has prior experience in commercials.

Does anyone else find it really strange that Alicia Silverstone is playing mom roles now? Every time I hear her name my 90s nostalgia kicks in and I just see her as Cher in Clueless. It will be interesting to see how she adjusts into the more mature part.

Proud mother Alicia Silverstone has long gushed about passing her love of life and vegan cuisine onto her ten-month-old son Bear Blu. Over the weekend, she took to her blog to relate a cute little story about the little man eating mochi and veggies, but it’s not so much the food in question as the method it was delivered that’s gotten people talking.

Apparently, Silverstone feeds her son by chewing up his food and then transferring it with a kiss. Yes, like a standard bird might do. Luckily for everyone who likes the utterly bizarre, the actress posted a video of the mochi incident, and we’ve embedded it below. Go ahead and have a look…

I’ll be the first to admit that it seems like Bear is having a hell of a time in that video, as is his mother. Silverstone claims the little guy “crawls across the room to attack (her) mouth whenever (she’s) eating”. Whether or not that’s a good thing I’ll leave for you to decide.

Some children have an extraordinarily hard time eating without choking. As such, some kids do have their food pre-chewed or pulverized into mush, but the majority of those cases still involve spoons or some other conduit that’s not a mouth. Different strokes for different folks I guess. Provided he’s weaned off this strangeness by the time he’s in Kindergarten, I guess no harm no foul.

I've been reporting excitedly recently about the upcoming comedy Butter, which started off strong when it cast Jennifer Garner as an ambitious small-town equivalent of Hillary Clinton and then repeatedly upped the ante by building a fascinating cast around her. In a movie that uses an Iowa butter sculpting competition as an allegory for the 2008 Presidential primary, Butter features Modern Family's Ty Burrell as the womanizing Bill Clinton figure, Yara Shahidi as the upstart young girl joining the competition, and Rob Corddry and Twilight's Ashley Greene in unspecified supporting roles.

Now they've gone and made it even more interesting yet. Production Weekly reports that Alicia Silverstone is in talks to play Brooke, the young stripper who blackmails Burrell's character after their brief affair, and enters the butter-sculpting competition primarily to annoy Garner's high-strung character. In the original script, which I read and adored over the weekend, Brooke is written basically as a less smart, less ambitious Diablo Cody, with short jet-black hair and tons of tattoos and a general "I'm too old for this shit" attitude toward everything. She also eventually takes an, er, inappropriate interest in the Bill & Hillary characters' teenage daughter, presumably the role Greene will be playing.

Silverstone's defining role remains the ditzy, endearing Cher from Clueless, but if her comedic timing is still what it was in 1995, she'll be hilarious in this totally different role. Filming on Butter starts next week in Louisiana, and there's still one major role left to cast, the plump and awkward fourth entrant in the butter-sculpting competition who worships the ground that Garner's character walks on. If they keep up this pattern of awesome casting, we can only imagine what brilliant person will show up next.

We’re living in a post-Batman & Robin world, a world where we’ve all figured out that yeah, Alicia Silverstone wasn’t as awesome as we thought she was after Clueless. So I’m not really sure who the audience for this is, but Silverstone and Clueless director Amy Heckerling may be talking about making a Clueless 2.

The rumor comes from the less than reliable folks at Star where they claim not only to have spotted Heckerling and Silverstone hanging out together, but also to have somehow eavesdropped on their conversation. The Star’s source claims: “They were talking about the script they’re working on and how exciting this is for them.”

I’m not sure I buy it and even if I did, do we really need a Clueless 2? Stacey Dash was, last I saw her, doing softcore porn and Brittany Murphy was briefly famous and now seems to have settled in as a character actor. It should be no problem getting them back. Yet Alicia Silverstone is no longer that Alicia Silverstone and Paul Rudd is, frankly, so much better than that now. There’s really no good reason for him to go back. He's better off somewhere chainsmoking and being funny.
