Over the years, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has become a behemoth force in the entertainment world, with new releases hitting both theaters and streaming with a Disney+ subscription. Arguably the most hotly anticipated upcoming Marvel movie is Avengers: Doomsday, which will have a massive cast of characters. And after hearing Anna Paquin's interest in playing Rogue again, I think she needs to get in on the fun.

What we know about Avengers: Doomsday is growing, especially thanks to that cast announcement live stream. A number of actors from the X-Men movies were confirmed, including Kelsey Grammer, James Marsden, Rebecca Romijn, Alan Cumming, Patrick Stewart, and Ian McKellen. I recently saw a previous video from ET, where Paquin was asked what it would take for her to play Rogue again. She responded:

Honestly, that seems pretty cut and dry. Clearly the star of True Blood (which is streaming with Max subscription) isn't opposed to finally taking flight as Rogue. And now that the X-Men are being brought back for Doomsday, it seems like the perfect time to get the Oscar-winning actress in the MCU.

There is still hope for Paquin's Rogue to make an appearance. Kevin Feige already confirmed that "some not all" of the Avengers: Doomsday cast was announced, so there will be even more names than the ones listed in that live stream. Whether or not Paquin or more X-Men alum make it into the movie remains to be seen, but she's definitely a beloved figure from Fox's franchise.

Fans who have spent years watching the Marvel movies in order have not-so-patiently waiting for the X-Men to finally assemble in the shared universe. Disney's acquisition of 20th Century Fox opened the door for this to happen, but the studio didn't rush out an X-Men movie. It's still unclear exactly when that might happen, but having so many familiar mutants in Doomsday is a thrilling step forward.

In her comments, Paquin mentioned never being able to fly in as Rogue. Her the film version of the beloved character only had the mutant ability to drain the powers of others. But in the comics and most other adaptations she's also got the permanent flight, super strength, and endurance that she got from draining the life force out of Captain Marvel. Maybe if she gets to join the fun of Avengers: Doomsday or Secret Wars she'll finally be able to take flight.

Paquin starred in the original X-Men trilogy, although she didn't have much screen time in The Last Stand. He and her co-stars later reprised their roles for Days of Future Past, but Rogue's scenes ended up being cut from the theatrical cut.

Avengers: Doomsday is currently expected to hit theaters on May 1st, 2026. Since its not on the 2025 movie release list, we'll have to hope and wait for more casting news from the studio.

A great performance from a precocious young actor can steal scenes and even entire movies and TV shows. Like the kids on this list, who have so much personality at such a young age it's crazy. From TV stars like Gary Coleman on Diff'rent Strokes to supporting roles in movies that end up being the most-talked-about bits of the films, like Jonathan Lipnicki in Jerry Maguire, these kids are just oozing charm and talent. 

Shirley Temple

You can't have a list like this without the original Hollywood kid star, the great Shirley Temple. Though Temple acted in films into her late teens before retiring in 1950, she is really best remembered for her roles as a clever witty kid in movies like 1935's Curly Top and 1936's Stowaway. After Temple retired, she went on to have a successful career as a spokesperson and even a foreign diplomat. 

Macaulay Culkin

There are very few kids that could ever carry a movie, much less a franchise, like Macaulay Culkin did with the Home Alone movies. The first movie is one of the most successful movies of all time, and while the entire cast of Home Alone is amazing, the movie would not be the same with anyone else as Kevin McCallister. 

Quvenzhané Wallis

Quvenzhané Wallis' performance in Beasts of the Southern Wild is, in all senses, a revelation. Her performance is so powerful and nuanced on a level that even many adult actors can't match. It was so good, that Wallis became the youngest actress ever nominated for an Academy Award. 

Ke Huy Quan

Ke Huy Quan comeback with his amazing, award-winning performance in Everything Everywhere All At Once was the feel-good story of 2022. It came, of course, four decades after he first blew audiences away with roles like Short Round in Indiana Jones and the Temple Of Doom and Data in The Goonies, where he showed just how much personality a kid can have on screen. 

Peter Billingsley

For a generation of kids, A Christmas Story is THE definite Christmas movie. It was so popular that for a time, it would run a loop on cable TV around the holiday. Of course, while the whole cast is memorable, Peter Billingsley's role as Ralphie is the one people talk about the most. 

Soleil Moon Frye

The 1980s were awash with precocious kids leading shows and few were on a higher level than Punky Brewster. The lead character, played by Soleil Moon Frye, found herself in all kinds of spots, usually funny, though sometimes serious and Frye could handle it all. 

Emmanuel Lewis

For six seasons, Emmanuel Lewis brought joy to American homes as the orphaned Webster in the show with the same name. Like others in the decade, Lewis carried a network show with his comedic timing and cuteness. The diminutive Lewis, who was diagnosed with pituitary dwarfism, used his condition to his advantage, not to mention his great acting, to get people laughing everywhere. 

The Olsen Twins

Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen are examples of kids who left acting behind, but their joint performance as Michelle Tanner in Full House will always be beloved by fans of the show. The twins both had enough personality to fill a soundstage when they played the role, starting when they were just babies. Incredible. 

Haley Joel Osment

Haley Joel Osment's big break came as the intense kid who could see dead people in The Sixth Sense. Like a few others on this list, he's a child star who is still acting today and it's not hard to see why given the talent he displayed at just 11 years old. 

Millie Bobby Brown

By the time Millie Bobby Brown was the ripe old age of 12, when she first starred in Stranger Things on Netflix, the actress was a seasoned vet. She had already had regular roles on a couple of TV shows both in the US and her native UK and had made a number of guest appearances on shows like NCIS and Grey's Anatomy. Of course, it would as a Eleven in Stranger Things that really proved how great she is. 

Christian Bale

Christian Bale is one of the best actors of his generation, something he started to prove very early in his life when he took on the starring role of a war orphan in  Steven Spielberg's Empire of the Sun. Bale was only 13 at the time and his performance is both heartbreaking and heartwarming. It's hard to fathom the ability to do that as barely a teenager. 

Gary Coleman

There isn't a more famous catchphrase from 1980s TV than "Whatchu talkin' 'bout, Willis?" Of course, those words were part of seemingly every single episode of Diff'rent Strokes. Gary Coleman's role as Arnold, the orphaned kid taken in, with his brother, by Mr Drummond was one of the most popular characters of the decade.  

Anna Chlumsky

While Macaulay Culkin was the big "star" of My Girl when it was released, his counterpart, played by Anna Chlumsky is every bit as charming as wonderful as Caulkin. Chlumsky's talents were on full display as a kid, talents that would eventually earn her many Emmy nominations for her work as an adult in Veep.

Jonathan Lipnicki

Let's be honest, is there a cuter kid than Jonathan Lipnicki in Jerry Maguire? His charm and unintentional wit is totally off the charts in the rom-com. He even knows how much a human head weighs (8 pounds) and that bees and dogs smell fear. No too shabby. 

Tatum O'Neal

When Tatum O'Neal won the Oscar for starring alongside her father, Ryan O'Neal, in  Paper Moon in 1974 she became the youngest person to ever win the award at just age 10. That pretty much says it all. While other kids have been nominated, she was the first kid to win. She continued to show her talents and personality in movies like The Bad News Bears and Nickelodeon before personal problems derailed her promising career. 

Henry Thomas

Acor Henry Thomas has had a long career in TV and on film, but the movies we all best remember are when he was a child actor full of skill and personality in movies like E.T. and the underrated Cloak & Dagger. E.T. was one of the most successful movies of all time and is ranked as one of Steven Spielberg's best movies, thanks in large part to Thomas' performance. 

Jaleel White

It's true that Steve Urkel on Family Matters is one of the more polarizing characters in TV history, but Jaleel White's performance as the nerdy neighbor shouldn't be controversial. He was perfect in the role and people are still making references to it decades later, which tells you all you need to know. 

Hailee Steinfeld

In literature, there are few kids with more personality than Mattie Ross in Charles Portis' classic novel True Grit. It takes a young actor with an equally big personality to play her on-screen and in the Coen Brother's 2010 adaption, Hailee Steinfeld just crushes the role. 

Drew Barrymore

When you come from Hollywood royalty, like the Barrymore family, you'd better have some acting chops. Drew Barrymore proved just how great she was before she was even seven years old when she starred in her breakout role as Gertie in E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial. She continued acting as a kid in movies like Firestarter and Irreconcilable Differences, before moving on to adult roles and eventually, her own talk show. 

Keshia Knight Pulliam

The Cosby Show was among the most popular shows of the 1980s and while Bill Cosby was undoubtedly the star of the show, Keshia Knight Pulliam, who played the youngest Huxtable child, Rudy, stole a TON of scenes in every season. Who could ever forget the lip-syncing scenes with the whole family, and not immediately recall her legendary moments in those scenes? 

Hayley Mills

How about not one, but two roles that prove just how much personality one child actor can show off? For Hayley Mills, The Parent Trap wasn't her first movie, but it is the one most remembered from her child-acting days. She plays both twins in the movie and does it so well, that you'd swear it would have to be two people, even though they look alike. 

Abigail Breslin

Little Miss Sunshine was the surprise hit of 2006 and that was in no small part (pun intended) to Abigail Breslin's brilliant performance as Olive, the girl at the heart of the dysfunctional family's road trip. you know someone is a star when they stand out from a cast that includes Alan Arkin, Paul Dano, Steve Carell, and Toni Collette.

Anna Paquin

These days Anna Paquin is probably best known for her work in the X-Men series, but she really burst onto the scene as an 11-year-old in The Piano, for which she became one of the youngest actors to ever win an Academy Award. More than three decades later she's still lighting up the screen. 

Alfonso Ribeiro

In the 1980s television was filled with precocious kids tearing it up on shows like Silver Spoons. Ricky Schroeder may have been the star as young Ricky, a role that launched his career, but his best friend, Alfonso, played by Alfonso Ribeiro, stole a lot of the scenes he was in. After Silver Spoons, Ribeiro danced into our hearts as Carlton on The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air. 

Natalie Portman

It is undeniable that Natalie Portman is one of the finest actors of her generation and her career all started when she was just 12 in Leon: The Professional. It's a complicated role, one that even many adult actors would struggle with, but Portman showed right away just what kind of acting chops she had in the movie. It's a challenging role for audiences, thanks to her fantastic performance. 

Alyssa Milano

Alyssa Milano's career has gone through some peaks and valleys, like many actors. One of the highest peaks came when she was just a kid, starring as Samantha in Who's The Boss?, a classic '80s sitcom. Tony Danza played her father and the chemistry between them was legendary. Maybe one day we'll get that reboot we've been waiting for. 

Jerry Mathers

In the whole history of American television, one of the most enduring characters has to be from its golden age in the 1950s, Beaver Cleaver. Played by Jerry Mathers, The Beav was an instant hit with kids and parents alike and the show ran for decades in reruns all over the country. Mathers even returned to play The Beaver during the Baby Boomer nostalgia fad of the 1980s. 

Keisha Castle-Hughes

When Keisha Castle-Hughes was nominated for an Oscar in her breakout role in The Whale Rider, she was the youngest person to ever receive that honor. Her performance is fully deserving of the praise she received and she's continued to receive well-earned praise for her roles in Game of Thrones as Obara Sand, and as Hana Gibson in FBI.

Jodie Foster

Playing a role like Jodie Foster played in Taxi Driver takes a truly special actor. Foster, who was just 14 when she played the complicated role, has gone on to have an incredible and empowering career in Hollywood, but it's hard to imagine her having a tougher assignment than that part, with such adult complications, in Taxi Driver. 

Dafne Keen

There is something so magical about kids playing roles that really wrestle with adult themes and one of the best recent examples is Dafne Keen in Logan. It's a complicated role, dealing with complicated subjects and Keen is sublime throughout the movie. 

Heather O'Rourke

Heather O'Rouke's all too tragic life was taken way too soon. The Poltergeist star died when she was just 12 years old, but in those 12 years, she left a heck of an impression on the world. Her performance in Poltergeist completely steals the legendary horror film. 

Natalie Wood

While Natalie Wood is too often remembered for all the wrong reasons, in her short life (she died when she was just 43), she packed a ton of memorable performances in that life. One of the most enduring has to be her role in Miracle on 34th Street, which came when she was just 9 years old. 

Sometimes an actor just explodes on the scene with their first movie. Many of the people on this list have even been nominated and won awards for their first roles. Most, of course, have gone on to have long, successful careers, so let's look back at these actors who absolutely crushed it in their first roles. 

Lupita Nyong'o - 12 Years A Slave

It didn't take long for Kenyan native Lupita Nyong'o to make a huge splash in Hollywood. After a little time working on movie sets behind the camera, she studied acting at Yale and landed her seminal role in 12 Years A Slave almost immediately after graduating. The performance speaks for itself, and Nyong'o deservingly took home an Oscar for it. Amazingly, three years later, she won a Tony in her Broadway debut in Eclipsed.

Sean Penn - Taps

Sean Penn has had a long, storied career and while many may assume his breakout role came as the stoner Spicoli in Fast Times At Ridgemont High, but a year before cracking up audiences in that cult classic, he played a very different role as a would-be soldier at a military academy in Taps. Notably, Tom Cruise also made his breakthrough role in the movie alongside Penn. 

Reese Witherspoon - The Man In The Moon

Over the last 4 decades or so, Reese Witherspoon has not only become one of the most acclaimed actresses in Hollywood, but a major force behind the scenes as a producer. It all started for the Nashville native with her debut in The Man In The Moon in 1991. It's always impressive when a newcomer can lead a personal film like this, and Witherspoon showed early how good she is by doing so. 

Natalie Portman - Leon: The Professional

There are a few actors in Hollywood who broke big when they were very young. From the moment you see Natalie Portman on screen in her first role as Mathilda in Leon: The Professional, you know she's going to be big. Yeah, it's an uncomfortable movie to watch for obvious reasons - Portman was just 13 - but seeing how brave she was to take on a complicated role like that, it was clear she was destined for greatness. 

Edward Norton - Primal Fear

Has there ever been a more terrifying and convincing debut performance from an actor than Edward Norton in Primal Fear? It's one of the all-time great grifter films and Norton's performance is the major reason why. He's scary, both in character and in talent. 

Florence Pugh - The Falling

It's hard to believe Florence Pugh made her debut in The Falling in 2014. It seems like the actress has been around forever as she keeps picking amazing roles and crushing the performances, just like her first. 

Kevin Bacon - National Lampoon's Animal House

Every actor in Hollywood is connected to Kevin Bacon, as the game claims, and that's because for more than five decades he's been giving amazing performance and amazing performance. His first movie, the classic comedy National Lampoon's Animal House is certainly no exception as he plays a snobby, snarky, frat boy to perfection. There is nothing he can't do.  

Halle Berry - Jungle Fever

In 2001 Halle Berry became the first African-American woman to win the Best Picture Oscar for Monster's Ball. That was just 10 short years after she made he incredible debut in Spike Lee's Jungle Fever. The former beauty pageant contestant has been one of the most reliably great stars in the years since, starring in some of the biggest franchises in Hollywood including the X-Men, James Bond, John Wick, and much more. 

Jennifer Hudson - Dreamgirls

After finishing seventh in the third season of American Idol, we all knew Jennifer Hudson could sing. When she was cast as Aretha Frankin-like Effie White in Dreamgirls, it didn't surprise anyone. At least, we weren't surprised until we all saw just how her powerful voice was matched by her powerful acting. She took home the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress in her big-screen debut. 

Eddie Murphy - 48 Hrs.

By the time Eddie Murphy starred in 48 Hrs. alongside Nick Nolte in 1982, he was already a bonafide TV star from his time on SNL. Known for his great characters and hilarious lines on SNL, it wasn't clear if he could carry a movie. 48 Hrs. settled that, he definitely could and he's been leading them ever since. 

Marlee Matlin - Children Of A Lesser God

Marlee Matlin has been breaking down barriers since the very beginning of her career. Deaf from the time she was a small child, there must have been many people who told her she could pursue her dreams. Instead, she became not only the deaf actor to win an Oscar in his debut movie, Children Of A Lesser God, but the youngest woman to take home the statue as well. 

Anne Hathaway - The Princess Diaries

From the very beginning, Anne Hathaway has been wowing audiences. Her first movie is still one of her most beloved, The Princess Diaries. She even got to star alongside true film royalty. Julie Andrews. She didn't seem intimidated then, and she never has been since. 

Tim Curry - The Rocky Horror Picture Show

Tim Curry's first movie has become the dictionary definition of a cult classic. The Rocky Horror Picture Show was a flop when it was released, but in the decades since, it's become one of the most popular movies of all time with a fanbase that is not just dedicated, but rabid in its love for the movie and for Curry's character, Frank-N-Furter.

Emma Stone - Superbad

Superbad is one of those comedies that very really gets old, especially if you grew up with it as a staple of your DVD rotation. Emma Stone's character Jules is not the kind of character you'd expect to be as funny as she is, which makes Stone pretty much perfect for the role, as she is as effortlessly funny as she is effortlessly beautiful. She's gone on to tackle some characters with incredible depth, but she set the foundation in Superbad. 

Oprah Winfrey - The Color Purple

There is really nothing Oprah Winfrey can't accomplish. She was already on her way to becoming the biggest daytime talk show in history by the time she landed a role in Steven Speilberg's classic The Color Purple. It turns out Winfrey can do a whole more than coax the most out of guests on her talk show, she can act really act, earning an Oscar nomination in her film debut. 

Julie Andrews - Mary Poppins

It's really hard to believe that Julie Andrews didn't make her true film debut until she was nearly 30 years old, when she appeared as the legendary Mary Poppins in the film of the same name. Of course, Andrews was well-established as a stage actor at that point, but still, it was the golden age of Hollywood, you'd think she would have been cast in something well before Mary Poppins. At least we can be grateful she was cast here. 

Alan Rickman - Die Hard

Hans Gruber in Die Hard is, without a doubt, one of the greatest villains of the 1980s. Knowing that it was the film debut of the incredible Alan Rickman makes it all that more impressive. He plays the role with such confidence and panache, that it's almost too much to believe it was his first movie role, but it was. 

Anna Paquin - The Piano

Anna Paquin won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in The Piano. She was just 11 years old! Anyone who does that deserves a spot on any list like that. She's the second youngest ever to win an Oscar and in the years since she's continued to wow us with her work. 

Jamie Lee Curtis - Halloween

Jamie Lee Curtis basically invented the modern scream queen in horror movies in her debut in Halloween. It's a genre she's only returned to a few times in her long, impressive career, but we're sure glad it's where she got her start. 

Hailee Steinfeld - True Grit

It's a little remarkable how many young girls pop up on a list like this. One of the most recent examples of a teenager just crushing her film debut is Hailee Steinfeld. Not only did she have the pressure of playing a beloved literary character like Mattie Ross in True Grit, but she also had to act alongside legends like Jeff Bridges, Matt Damon, and Josh Brolin. She doesn't just hold her own, either, she steals the movie. She rightly received an Oscar nomination for her work.  

Glenn Close - The World According To Garp

Glenn Close burst on the scene with award-winning performances on Broadway before transitioning to film with her debut on the silver screen in The World According To Garp where she picked up where she left off on the stage, getting nominated for an Oscar. She would earn Oscar nominations (but sadly no wins) for her next two movies as well, The Big Chill and The Natural. 

Robert Duvall - To Kill A Mockingbird

Robert Duvall's career goes all the way back to the 1950s, when he first appeared as Boo Radley in one of the most beloved movies about the American South, To Kill A Mockingbird. He only has a small role, as the character with an outsized effect on the plot who is only seen at the end, but he embodies the character so many kids learn to love when they first read the book in high school. 

John Malkovich - Places In The Heart

There is no question that John Malkovich is one of the finest actors of his generation. He's completely fearless in all the roles he plays and that's true going all the way back to his first role as a blind World War I vet in the Depression-era film Places in the Heart alongside Sally Field, Danny Glover, and Ed Harris. 

Lily Tomlin - Nashville

Though she was already a comedic legend on TV, having appeared on Laugh-In and The Carol Burnett Show, Lily Tomlin showed what range she really had as a gospel singer and mother to two in Nashville. She's continued to show those skills over and over in the decades since. 

Gal Gadot - Fast & Furious

Gal Gadot is best known as Wonder Woman these days, but she made her debut in another giant Hollywood franchise when she appeared in Fast & Furious, the fourth installment of the Fast And Furious series. The ex-Israeli army veteran has impressed fans of the movies in each of her 3 appearances by performing most of her own stunts.  

Kerry Washington - Our Song

Our Song is an underrated movie that is everything great about independent filmmaking. It's an intensely personal story about a unique moment in time for the characters and the audience. Kerry Washington simply blows audiences out of the water with her powerful and heartfelt performance. It's incredible how good she was in her first movie. 

Dustin Hoffman - The Graduate

So, technically Dustin Hoffman had already had a small role in a film before The Graduate (a movie called The Tiger Makes Out). For all intents and purposes, he introduced himself to the world with an Oscar-nominated performance in one of the most iconic movies in Hollywood history, The Graduate. It's a movie people still love talking about and lauding, even nearly 60 years later. 

John Cazale - The Godfather

The incredible and tragic story of actor John Cazale is well-known among movie buffs. Cazale only starred in five movies before he died of cancer at just age 42. All five of those movies won the Oscar for Best Picture The first, his first, was, of course, The Godfather. Though his character, Fredo, would play a larger role in the sequel, he still established himself as one of the greatest of his generation before we all lost him too soon.  

Gabrielle Union - She's All That

Actor Gabrielle Union has definitely made her mark not only on Hollywood but on the world with her stellar performances and her charity work outside of film. HE burst onto the scene in She's All That and she's never slowed down since. 

James Dean - East Of Eden

The great James Dean is one of the biggest "what ifs" in Hollywood history. Though he did have some uncredited roles in a few movies, the young actor starred in just three movies, including his first East Of Eden. For that role, he would receive an Oscar nomination, though he wouldn't live to see it, as he was killed in a car crash before being nominated. A feat that would be repeated the next year with Giant.

Jason Schwartzman - Rushmore

Though Jason Schwartzman comes from a prominent Hollywood family, that didn't guarantee success. Instead, he went out in his first movie role, in Rushmore, and absolutely embodied his character of Max. It's every bit as impressive as anything his mom Talia Shire has done, and that is no small feat. 

Keisha Castle-Hughes - The Whale Rider

When Keisha Castle-Hughes was nominated for an Oscar at just 12 years old for The Whale Rider, you knew she was one to watch for. She was, at the time, the second-youngest person nominated for an Oscar and not only was the nomination well-deserved, but she's continued to justify the voters' confidence in her with her roles over the last couple of decades. 

Anna Paquin has acted alongside many former and current Hollywood stars over the decades. She watched an unknown Australian actor named Hugh Jackman go from a Hollywood unknown to a movie superstar. Two decades after Jackman’s Hollywood breakthrough role, Paquin reflected on filming X-Men with the then-unknown actor before film stardom and fame did not change him.

When Paquin joined the film as southern belle Rogue, she already had several hit movies and an Oscar win under her belt despite being a high school senior. Jackman, on the other hand, played Wolverine in the first X-Men movie, which was only his third feature film. Of course, his superstar moment almost didn’t happen because of doubts over Jackman's demeanor and physicality. Fortunately, things worked out for the Tony winner, which Paquin saw firsthand. The True Blood alum opened up to People about fame not changing him despite shooting to superstardom after playing everyone’s favorite curmudgeon mutant, saying:

Paquin’s words echo many actors' sentiments about Jackman’s humbleness and charm over the years. The The Greatest Showman star became a household name and box office star after the first X-Men film’s tremendous success. Others might’ve gained a huge ego from the attention and fame, but Jackman has remained grounded and nice in his decades-long career. Jackman being a class act has kept him working in Hollywood and allowed him to jump from genre to genre.

The Hollywood A-lister has kept his reputation despite his “feud” with Ryan Reynolds. Jackman made a great joke at Reynolds’ expense after Deadpool 3 secrets leaked. Of course, Reynolds returned the favor by trolling the Son actor while reflecting on their time together on set. The faux tension masks a strong brotherhood between the two actors.

Of course, Hugh Jackman will play Wolverine once more in Deadpool & Wolverine after the character died in 2017’s Logan. The threequel will arrive in theaters on July 26. While Jackman’s private life has taken center stage lately, it is currently unknown what Jackman’s next project is. The list of A-list actors who have joined Marvel movies is never ending and ever-growing, the same goes for the list of rumored actors who might be joining the MCU. One rumor that has had some staying power over the last few weeks is about Keke Palmer joining the X-Men as Rogue in upcoming Marvel projects, now that the X-Men are in the MCU. And in true Keke Palmer fashion, she had a fabulous response to the rumor.

Fans have been campaigning for her to play Rogue, the mutant who can steal the powers and memories of anyone she touches. She posted a TikTok saying she’d be down to do it, and she also told Comicbook.com: 

She’s so delightful, and she has the best responses to questions like this. Along with Rogue, there has been a campaign for her to play a live-action Rapunzel. On this front she posted on Instagram with a caption saying at the pace the internet requests her for roles she’ll be unavailable “until 2024 at this pace.” Which is also how she responded to the X-Men rumors.

It’s super cool that the actress is so engaged with the fans, and aware of who they want her to play. She is also super charismatic and funny, so her responses to the requests are the best, just like how she’s handling this whole X-Men situation. 

Personally, I’d love to see Palmer in the MCU. She’d be taking over the role from Anna Paquin, who played Rogue in the OG X-Men movies, who could also come back based on Marvel's track record with the X-Men cast. We know that both Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds will be reprising their roles as the respective Wolverine and Deadpool in the MCU’s Deadpool 3. Also, if you’ve been watching the Marvel movies in order, you saw Patrick Stewart come back as Professor X in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. So, it wouldn't be far-fetched to see other original X-Men actors, like Paquin, return to Marvel. However, we’ve also seen three different Spider-Men over the course of many years, and then all three in the same movie, so anything is possible. 

Palmer has had a great year, with two big films on the 2022 movie schedule. She starred alongside Chris Evans in Lightyear, and she was part of the stellar Nope cast. While she’s been working consistently for a long time, it’s nice to see her get so much positive attention for her fabulous performances. Due to these high-profile projects, and her overall charisma, I’d imagine a project, like one of the caliber of a Marvel movie, has to be in her future at some point. 

People are often looking for a good heartwarming and inspirational films during the holiday season, and there’s nothing quite like a sports movie to hit that button. In the case of Jon and Andrew Erwin's American Underdog, the title alone sounds like it was developed under laboratory conditions to appeal to the widest possible domestic audience. Unfortunately, as is often the case when you try to make a movie for everybody, it succeeds in impressing nobody. 

Kurt Warner (Shazam’s Zachary Levi) has always dreamed of playing quarterback in the NFL. Unfortunately, he spent most of his college career on the bench, and even when he does get a chance to shine, he’s playing in a small college in Iowa – the kind of school to which pro scouts don’t often pay much attention. Kurt finds his own inspiration in Brenda (Anna Paquin), a young woman with two kids from a previous marriage, one of whom is legally blind. While Brenda expects this will scare Kurt away, it does the opposite, and they become an unlikely family unit while Kurt tries to find a way to realize his dream. 

Unfortunately, when Kurt goes undrafted, the traditional route to the NFL is closed to him, which means he’ll have to find another way to get noticed, and find other ways to provide for his family in the meantime.

 American Underdog is a faith based movie that seems to have little faith in itself.

It should be pointed out that American Underdog is a product of the Kingdom Story Company and is directed by Andrew and Jon Erwin, all of whom specialize in the genre of film known as “faith-based.” Having said that, I’m not sure the audience for whom that description is a plus will be that impressed with the movie they get. 

While religion and faith are mentioned, they’re given little more than lip service. In one scene early in Kurt and Brenda’s relationship, she makes it clear that her faith is important to her. Kurt’s reaction implies that faith may not have been that important to him previously. This seems to signal a path for Kurt, one where his new relationship leads to spiritual growth. We never see that. Later Kurt simply speaks of God as a man who has faith, with no indication of how he became that man.

It feels like the faith-based elements were intentionally toned down in order to make the sports movie more palatable for a general audience that might not be so interested in such things. At the same time, the story is sure not to do anything that an audience looking for faith-fueled entertainment might not appreciate. Late in the movie when a tragic event befalls the family, Brenda Warner seems to have a crisis of faith, angry with God for what has happened, but it lasts all of one scene and is never dealt with again. Nobody wants the audience to worry too much that the characters might not be the pinnacle of piousness.

And while it’s likely true that the religious undertones would have turned off a portion of the potential audience, at least it would have given American Underdog something unique to set it apart from other sports movies. The rest of the movie is pretty much by the numbers. 

Zachary Levi and Anna Paquin Carry American Underdog on charisma alone. 

The chemistry and charisma of Zachary Levi and Anna Paquin is vital to American Underdog because without it there just isn’t much here, and that part works well enough. A handful of incidental characters come in and out of the story at various points, but none of them leave much of an impression or are particularly important. Those looking for a traditional sports movie will need to wait a while because the  first half of the story focuses almost exclusively on the relationship dynamics and has surprisingly little actual football in a movie about how a guy became a player in the NFL.

It’s rare that we see Zachary Levi in a completely straight dramatic performance, and if American Underdog tells us anything, it’s that Levi is up to the task. The role isn’t a particularly challenging one; it never asks him to be too emotional, but he handles what he has to work with well. Though it’s hard to overlook the fact that Levi is 41-years-old and, while he absolutely looks younger than that, he plays Kurt Warner from the ages of approximately 22 to 28, and he doesn’t look that young for his age. Anna Paquin, who is slightly younger than Levi, but is playing a woman slightly older than Warner, fairs a little bit better, but just a little. 

American Underdog may tell a true story, but that doesn't mean it makes a good movie. 

Having said that, the fact that Zachary Levi looks basically the same when he’s supposed to be playing a college kid and when he’s supposed to be playing an NFL quarterback starting in the Super Bowl, is symptomatic of the big problem with American Underdog. We never see change or growth in the character of Kurt Warner any more than we see it in the actor playing him. He’s a great player at the beginning of the movie, and he shows how great he can be at the end. There’s never any moment where Kurt needs to overcome some great obstacle or his own ego in order to be better. 

If we’re supposed to believe that Kurt’s growing faith is what makes him ready to pursue his dream, we never see that faith grow and change him as a person. One scene, where Kurt has an early shot at the NFL, implies that Kurt fails because he was unable or unwilling to do the studying necessary before his tryout – but we never saw this earlier, and it is never addressed again so there's no lesson to be learned. The movie seems to want to tell us that it’s Kurt’s decision to commit to his family that allows him to actually achieve his dreams. And yes, the one thing does follow the other in the plot, but they’re never actually connected by the story. 

Throughout American Underdog, various characters assure Kurt Warner that he really is that good, and that eventually the world see that... and in the end that’s the movie. We just sit around and wait for the right person to notice how great he is, and once that happens, success follows. It might be the true story, but it doesn't make for a very dramatic movie. 

This weekend, audiences can see a retelling of a familiar tale with Netflix's He's All That, a modernized remake of 1999's well-liked teen rom-com, She's All That. Though the movie received mixed reviews from critics, it earned a wide audience, becoming one of the most popular teen flicks of the '90s, thanks to the endearing chemistry shared between Freddie Prinze Jr. and Rachael Leigh Cook. In a cast that includes several famous faces, including Gabrielle Union, Kieran Culkin, Anna Paquin, and the late Paul Walker, it's easy to wonder what the A-list ensemble has been up to for the past 20-plus years. She's also known for playing the titular Josie McCoy in Josie and the Pussycats. Additionally, Cook starred in The Baby-Sitters Club. Her other film credits include The House of Yes, Tom and Huck, Blow Dry, and Nancy Drew. Also, Cook can be seen in Get Carter, Carpool, Living Out Loud, Texas Rangers, 11:14, Tangled, A Midsummer's Nights' Dream, and several direct-to-video films. Moreover, the actress is heard in Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children and Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker.

Most notably, Lillard played Shaggy Rogers in Scooby-Doo and Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed. He has also voiced the character in several animated films, notably after Casey Kasem retired from the part. His other film credits include Scream, SLC Punk!, Summer Catch, Without a Paddle, The Descendants, Trouble with the Curve, The Groomsmen, and Looney Tunes: Back in Action. Moreover, Lillard acted in and directed Fat Kid Rules the World.

Additionally, on television, Matthew Lillard was praised for his performance as William Hastings in Showtime's Twin Peaks: The Return. Kevin Pollak (Wayne Boggs)

He has appeared in several notable films throughout his career, including A Few Good Men, Grumpy Old Men, Grumpier Old Men, The Usual Suspects, Casino, Wayne's World 2, That Thing You Do!, The Whole Nine Yards, The Wedding Planner, and L.A. Story. Additionally, on TV, Pollak plays Moishe Maisel in Amazon Prime's The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. He also provided recurring roles in Mom, Better Things, Shark, Coming of Age, Morton & Hayes, The Drew Carey Show, and Billions.

Furthermore, Kevin Pollak is a renowned impressionist and he hosted the podcast Kevin Pollak's Chat Show for over a decade. Usher (Campus DJ)

Playing the part of Campus DJ, the life of the party, Usher received one of his first film roles in She's All That. The actor's other credits include The Faculty, Light It Up, Killers, In the Mix, Geppetto, Texas Rangers, Scary Movie 5, Muppets Most Wanted, Hands of Stone, Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping, Burden, Hustlers, and Incredibles 2. Additionally, Culkin led NBC's short-lived Go Fish, and he appeared in NBC's The Magical Legend of the Leprechauns.

Furthermore, outside of television, Kieran Culkin played Jason "Igby" Slocumb, Jr. in Igby Goes Down. He's also known for Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, the Home Alone films, and the Father of the Bride movies. Union also starred in Deliver Us From Eva, The Brothers, Daddy's Little Girls, Bad Boys II, Cradle 2 the Grave, Top Five, Cadillac Records, City of Angels, Almost Christmas, Sleepless, Breaking In, and the Think Like A Man movies. In the role of Dean Sampson Jr., Zackary's friend who challenges him to the dare, Paul Walker received one of his biggest parts in She's All That. Most notably, following his supporting turn in this high school rom-com, Walker played Brian O'Conner in several Fast & Furious movies. He also starred in Joy Ride, Running Scared, Into the Blue, Eight Below, Meet the Deedles, The Death and Life of Bobby Z, The Lazarus Project, Takers, and The Skulls. Additionally, away from the big screen, Walker could be seen in Throb, The Young and the Restless, and Who's the Boss? Quite tragically, in late 2013, the movie star was involved in a fatal car crash. He was only 40. Walker posthumously starred in Brick Mansions, Hours (which he also executive produced), and Furious 7.

When it comes to being a nice guy in Hollywood, Hugh Jackman’s reputation precedes him, along with his showmanship and commitment. One person who knows this firsthand is his X-Men co-star Anna Paquin. Their time filming the original X-Men trilogy left Paquin with many Jackman stories. That’s why the actress' description of The Greatest Showman star painted him as a delightful badass.

While shooting the first X-Men film, Anna Paquin and Hugh Jackman formed quite a bond. But that shouldn’t be too surprising given how many scenes Rogue and Wolverine had together. Years after those films, Paquin revealed what their unique bond was like. The True Blood star said thisnabout her unlikely friendship with Jackman:

Considering how much of a physical commitment the X-Men films were, Anna Paquin painted the picture of a man who was deeply committed to his craft. It was nice to know Hugh Jackman and Paquin could still form a bond amongst all that chaos. Performing stunts can be demanding and taxing for any star, so still being a nice guy in those conditions is commendable. It seems the two still are friends years after completing the original trilogy.

During her interview on The Jess Cagle Show, Anna Paquin shared a personal moment between the two on set. The Oscar winner revealed she had to pick cigar bits from Hugh Jackman’s teeth. She mentioned Jackman as Wolverine was smoking a cigar while his adamantium claws are still visible. Unfortunately, this created a dilemma for retakes, leading to Paquin helping her co-star. As a fan of the original X-Men trilogy, I always wondered how that scene played out off-screen. It’s nice to know Paquin had his back at that moment.

Hearing Anna Paquin talking about her friendship with Hugh Jackman made me reminisce about the 2000s X-Men films. given the mutant outfit will be introduced to the MCU eventually. It proved the Hugh Jackman is just as amazing off-screen as he is onscreen. So if you want to watch Paquin’s Rogue and Jackman’s Wolverine in action, you can watch the first film on Disney+.

It was only yesterday that news broke that another True Blood series was possibly coming down the pipeline and the word “reboot” was even used. As in, not a spinoff of the Sookie Stackhouse sexual awakening story. Now, original True Blood lead Anna Paquin has caught wind of the news, sharing her reaction on social media.

After the trades first caught wind that HBO is already envisioning rebooting Alan Ball’s True Blood, Anna Paquin took to Twitter where she mentioned she has not been in the loop about the possibility at all, noting:

Some of her fans took that to be a passive aggressive response at the critically regarded subscription cabler (and streamer). However, Anna Paquin also clarified to one of those fans on social media that she’s not actually mad. Instead it seems as if she was just as surprised about the news as the rest of us.

In fact, Anna Paquin does not seem to be the only person who is surprised, as author Charlaine Harris herself also expressed a similar sentiment on social media.

To be fair here, the timing on this is really pretty odd. Sure, it’s been a handful of years since True Blood ended its run on HBO in 2014. However, it hasn’t been that many years since we said goodbye to the characters. In short, a good chunk of the people who would be interested in a True Blood reboot would likely only do so if it wasn’t really a reboot, but a spinoff or a revival.

I’d love to see more of Alexander Skarsgard character’s future specifically. I also think it might be cool to even see some prequel sorts of storylines or spinoffs set in the past featuring characters like Pam. I know the Sookie Stackhouse/Bill storyline really doesn’t need to be rehashed any further, but basically, this universe is rich. There are a lot of directions it could go without being a full reboot of the franchise with new actors and actresses but the same characters.

However, I wonder if the thought process is to potentially stick a little closer to Charlaine Harris’ works this time around? A lot of the storylines in the Southern Vampire Mysteries were really never touched on in the original HBO show, so I suppose that could be one positive of a reboot. Plus, I know rebooting has worked with varying degrees of success for some projects like Charmed, though the gap is even smaller with True Blood.

Anyway, if you didn’t catch the initial news, at least one original series person is on board for a reboot, as Alan Ball is allegedly attached as a producer this time around. Riverdale's' Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa is on board to write the pilot and also produce and HBO is currently staying mum about the possibility of another series.

We will be sure to keep you updated if HBO moves forward with this plan, but I’d love to gauge how everyone is feeling. Is this a good idea? A terrible one?

Nothing sounds nearly as cool as traveling the country with a rock band and writer and director Cameron Crowe actually does know what that is like from following Led Zeppelin for a Rolling Stone cover article in his teens. That journey would inspire 2000’s Almost Famous, an instant classic about a young aspiring journalist who joins fictional up-and-coming musicians on tour in the 1970s, with a Grammy-winning soundtrack as stellar as its cast.

The Academy Award-winning period piece would be a breakout hit for some (such as Kate Hudson), yet another glowing resume entry for others (like Philip Seymour Hoffman), or might be one movie you forgot Jimmy Fallon was in years before hosting The Tonight Show. However, every member from the cast of Almost Famous would bring something memorable to the story and most would go on to live up to the film’s title, even if some were already pretty close to fame to being with.

In celebration of two decades since the release of Almost Famous, we look back on the legacy it has led through the legacies it helped to create. The following are 14 of its main cast members, who they are they portrayed and how they have made a name for themselves since.

Patrick Fugit (William Miller)

After making his big screen debut as Cameron Crowe’s onscreen counterpart in Almost Famous, Patrick Fugit reunited with the filmmaker for 2011’s We Bought a Zoo and would additionally show up in other notable films (Saved!, First Man) and TV shows (Jason Bourne spin-off Treadstone, Robert Kirkman comic book adaptation Outcast on which he played the lead). He more recently voiced the character Owen in the hit video game The Last of Us: Part II and will star in the pilot for Thirtysomething(else), which focuses on the grown-up children of characters from the late 1980s drama Thirtysomething.

Kate Hudson (Penny Lane)

Other than being known as the grown-up child of Goldie Hawn and stepdaughter of Kurt Russell, Kate Hudson won a Golden Globe for playing a free-spirited, fictionalized version of band promoter Pennie Lane (with the spelling altered) in Almost Famous. 

She has also been known to associate with musicians in real life, too, having once wed The Black Crowes’ Chris Robinson and later dated Muse frontman Matt Bellamy amongst other rock star romances. The How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days star has led an eclectic acting career that will next include Music, the directorial debut of Sia, fantasy thriller Mona Lisa and the Blood Moon, and Michael Shannon-led comedy Shriver, which is still currently filming.

Billy Crudup (Russell Hammond)

He has lent his voice to music onscreen twice as Stillwater’s lead guitarist in Almost Famous and alongside the late Anton Yelchin in Rudderless in 2014. You might also recognize Billy Crudup’s voice from those “priceless” Mastercard ads years ago. He also starred in two DC movies (Dr. Manhattan in 2009’s Watchmen and The Flash’s dad in 2017’s Justice League), portrayed lawyer Eric MacLeish in the 2016 Best Picture winner Spotlight, played the captain of a doomed colony vessel in Alien: Covenant, and recently scored an Emmy nomination for playing a slimy network executive in the Apple TV+ original The Morning Show.

Jason Lee (Jeff Bebe)

You might also recognize Jason Lee’s voice as Syndrome in The Incredibles or his face from his Golden Globe-nominated title role on sitcom My Name is Earl. Before playing Stillwater’s lead singer Jeff Bebe in Almost Famous, the skateboarder turned actor broke out as Brodie in 1995’s Mallrats by Kevin Smith, for whom Lee reprised his Chasing Amy character, Banky Edwards, a third time in 2019’s Jay and Silent Bob Reboot. He also recently voiced a Sasquatch named Charlie on the Cartoon Network original We Bare Bears and its 2020 feature-length TV movie, which you could argue is a step up from playing Dave in the Alvin and the Chipmunks movies, and he also moonlights as a restauranteur in Denton, Texas.

Anna Paquin (Polexia Aphrodisia)

Her role as Flora McGrath in The Piano made her the youngest Best Supporting Actress Oscar recipient in history at 11 years old in 1994 and, in 2000, Anna Paquin had a tremendous year, both starring in Almost Famous as Polexia Aphrodisia and debuting as Rogue in X-Men. The Canadian actress also has a Golden Globe for the hit HBO vampire series True Blood and her most celebrated performance recently was as Robert DeNiro’s estranged daughter in The Irishman, despite having one line of dialogue. She has also appeared on the acclaimed Showtime drama The Affair and as a publicist for troubled celebrities in the Pop TV original series Flack.

Fairuza Balk (Sapphire)

Prior to playing Stillwater groupie Sapphire in Almost Famous, Fairuza Balk also had a notable child acting career, making her film debut as Dorothy in the twisted Return to Oz and later landing a scene-stealing role as teenage witch Nancy in The Craft. One of her more recent notable characters was a sex worker named Ginger on the third season of Ray Donovan and she will make her return to the world of the music business (on screen, at least) in Paradise City, a series spin-off of the 2018 film American Satan, which is now in post-production.

Noah Taylor (Dick Roswell)

Some modern audiences may recognize English actor Noah Taylor, who played Stillwater’s manager Dick Roswell in Almost Famous, as Mr. Bucket in Tim Buton’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory or as Phibs in Paddington 2. However, most people would more likely recognize him from his remarkable television as of late, which includes playing Locke on Game of Thrones, Daryl Sabini on period crime drama Peaky Blinders, and, most recently, on AMC’s DC Vertigo comic book adaptation Preacher, which is, believe or not, the second time he has portrayed Adolf Hitler.

Mark Kozelek (Larry Fellows)

Making his feature film debut in Almost Famous was Mark Kozelek, who played Stillwater bassist Larry Fellows - a very fitting role for him a he has made a career out out it. The musician only has four total acting credits to his name, including Cameron Crowe’s Vanilla Sky, leader of a band called Hot Tears in the Steve Martin-penned drama Shopgirl, and an appearing as himself against Michael Caine and Harvey Keitel in 2015’s Youth. Any other contribution of his to entertainment has been in the music department on various and films and TV shows or rocking out onstage or a recording studio.

John Fedevich (Ed Vallencourt)

It was actually per Mark Kozelek’s suggestion that John Fedevich, a studio session drummer since the late 1980s, got the part of Ed Vallencourt, Stillwater’s drummer. In fact, the musician has never been in a movie that did not also star his bass player friend Kozelek, including Almost Famous, a wordless reprisal of the Vallencourt role in Vanilla Sky, and playing the drummer for Hot Tears in Shopgirl. Fedevich is still active in the music business touring with various artists, including Billy Joel, to name one.

Michael Angarano (Young William Miller)

Michael Angarano’s career as a promising child actor was already on the up-and-up when he was cast as a younger version of William Miller and his career has since continued to evolve with no sign of stopping. He played the super-powered son of his Almost Famous co-star Kate Husdon’s stepfather, Kurt Russell, in Sky High, reprised his role as Eliot, Jack’s (Sean Hayes) son, on NBC’s reboot of Will & Grace more recently, and his stint as Jack Pearson’s younger brother on This Is Us earned him an Emmy nomination in 2019. He also appears in the second season of Hulu’s PEN15 and is pre-production for a CBS sitcom pilot called To Whom It May Concern.

Zooey Deschanel (Anita Miller)

Like her onscreen younger brother, Zooey Deschanel would become a sitcom star after playing Anita Miller in Almost Famous, after appearing in several other high-profile films, of course. The 40-year-old star of Elf, 500 Days of Summer, and M. Night Shyamalan’s infamous The Happening, who is also a singer for indie duo She and Him, retired her role as Jessica Day on New Girl after seven seasons in 2018 and recently reprised the voice of Bridget in Trolls World Tour. Otherwise, Deschanel has spent much of 2020 in quarantine with her beau, Property Brothers’ Jonathan Scott.

Frances McDormand (Elaine Miller)

Playing the overprotective Elaine Miller in Almost Famous was just one of the many stages of Frances McDormand’s portrayal of many kinds of mothers, including her Oscar-winning roles in 1996’s Fargo and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri in 2017, among others. The 63-year-old actress will appear next as an free-spirited cross-country traveler in Nomadland, a trailblazing journalist in Wes Anderson’s The French Dispatch, and as Lady MacBeth opposite Denzel Washington in the title role of her husband, Joel Coen’s, interpretation of Shakespeare’s 17th Century tragedy.

Jimmy Fallon (Dennis Hope)

Few remember Jimmy Fallon having the most successful career outside of his Saturday Night Live stint and eventually becoming a leading late night talk show host, but those are also the same people who might not have recognized him in his feature film debut as professional touring manager Dennis Hope in Almost Famous. While his acting career was, admittedly, underwhelming to most (from 2004’s Taxi and Fever Pitch the following year) before taking over Late Night from Conan O’Brien and later The Tonight Show from Jay Leno, he has done quite well lately by making cameos as himself, such as in Jurassic World, Amazon Prime’s darkly funny superhero satire The Boys, and the upcoming comedy Marry Me, starring Jennifer Lopez, which is expected for release in 2021.

Philip Seymour Hoffman (Lester Bangs)

Never one to underwhelm on screen was the great Philip Seymour Hoffman, who played real life music critic Lester Bangs in Almost Famous as well as countless other scene-stealers since the late 1980s, including Brandt in The Big Lebowski, Scotty J. in Boogie Nights, and his Oscar-winning performance in the title character of Capote. His final role was as undercover resistance leader Plutarch Heavensbee in The Hunger Games franchise, which he was mostly able to finish before he passed away of a heroin overdose in 2014. Hoffman was 46.

In 2008, HBO introduced the world to more sexy vampires, but this time they weren’t bound by the same rules as most vampires. This series was True Blood. For seven seasons, the show focused on Sookie Stackhouse, a girl who could hear people’s thoughts. She resided in Bon Temps, a sort-of magical proposed Utopia where vampires, other creatures, and humans attempted to live together in harmony. Of course that didn’t happen.The series shot many of the True Blood cast to stardom, including Anna Paquin, Stephen Moyer, and Alexander Skarsgard.

True Blood developed a strong cult following, and received many accolades and praise from TV critics and fans. It’s been 12 years since the series aired, and six since it ended in 2014. The cast have been using the momentum and success of the series to propel their careers even further.

Let’s check in with some of the main and supporting True Blood cast to see what they’ve been up to since the series ended. Warning: This may contain minor spoilers about the True Blood plot. Don't read further if you don't regularly visit Fangtasia.

Anna Paquin (Sookie Stackhouse)

Anna Paquin played Sookie Stackhouse, the faerie torn between two vampires, a shapeshifter, a vampire-faerie, and a wolf. At least, that's how True Blood was advertised, but most of the series really revolved around Bill (Stephen Moyer) and Sookie. It was a constant romance cycle until the very end.

After True Blood, Anna Paquin stayed very busy. In 2017, she appeared in a Canadian police mystery called Bellevue. That same year, Paquin played Nancy Montgomery in the miniseries Alias Grace. In 2019, she took on a major role in The Affair as Joanie Lockhart, the adult daughter of Cole (Joshua Jackson) and Alison (Ruth Wilson). Anna Paquin plays the lead in PopTV’s series Flack. Her character Robyn is an American publicist who represents scandalous celebrities in London. Paquin also had roles in The Irishman, Pixar’s The Good Dinosaur, and reprised her role as Rogue in X-Men: Days of Future Past.

Stephen Moyer (Bill Compton)

Stephen Moyer played Sookie’s main love interest, vampire Bill on True Blood. Like many vampires, he struggled with his vampire instincts, ambition, lust, and many other dark addictions. He rose and lost power many times throughout the show.

In 2015, Moyer appeared in the series The Bastard Executioner, a historical fiction about a man who tries to leave his violent past behind, but that is harder than expected. The former True Blood actor also had a role in Concussion, the bio, sports drama that starred Will Smith. His next major role was in 2017 with Safe House, a British crime drama. He starred in Season 2. Also in 2017, Moyer took on a lead role in Fox's Marvel X-Men TV series The Gifted. Moyer appeared in that series until 2019. In 2020, he has a lead role in the Canadian espionage drama Fortunate Son.

Alexander Skarsgard (Eric Northman)

Eric Northman, Sookie’s other vampire love interest and the vampire sheriff of Bon Temps. He also owns Fangtasia with his trusted side-kick Pam (Kristin Bauer van Straten).

Alexander Skarsgard appeared in a few movies after True Blood, including The Giver, The Diary of a Teenage Girl, Zoolander 2, The Legend of Tarzan, and Long Shot. His most known TV role following True Blood is as Perry in Big Little Lies. He won an Emmy award in 2017 for his portrayal as Perry. He’s also set to play Randall in the latest adaptation of Stephen King’s The Stand.

Ryan Kwanten (Jason Stackhouse)

Ryan Kwanten played Sookie’s sex driven, screw-up older brother, Jason on True Blood. Eventually Jason grows up a lot and becomes a police officer.

The Australian actor appeared in many films from 2014 to 2020, including Kidnapping Freddy Heineken, Who Gets the Dog?, Supercon, and up-coming Australian sci-fi film Loveland. In 2018, he began working alongside Sean Bean and Katrina Law in the Crackle series The Oath. In 2020, Kwanten plays Peter Wolfe in Season 2 of the Facebook Watch series Sacred Lies.

Rutina Wesley (Tara Thornton)

Rutina Wesley played Sookie’s best friend Tara, who got dealt one of the worst hands on the show. They put Tara through a lot on True Blood, but she finally got some semblance of peace during the final season.

Rutina Wesley only appeared in a couple movies since True Blood ended: the horror movie 13 Sins, Last Weekend, and The Perfect Guy. She also appeared in episodes of Hannibal, Arrow, and The Walking Dead. In 2016, Wesley took on a starring role in the Ava DuVernay and Oprah Winfrey series Queen Sugar. The fifth season of the series is scheduled to premiere in 2020.

Sam Trammel (Sam Merlotte)

Sam Merlotte was a shapeshifter who also had a really hard time on the show. It all started so simple for Sam. He was just another magical being in love with Sookie, and she just didn’t reciprocate his feelings (at least in the show). Then things got really dark for Sam, but he found his happy ending by True Blood’s series finale.

Sam Trammel’s biggest roles since True Blood have been appearing in This is Us, The Order, Reckoning, the movie The Fault in Our Stars, and on the final season of Homeland.

Deborah Ann Woll (Jessica Hamby)

Jessica entered the scene as Bill’s sort-of vampire daughter. She grew into her own over the course of the series, being one of the main driving forces to save the vampires in the final two seasons. She eventually found love and happiness with Hoyt (Jim Parrack).

Deborah Ann Woll appeared in the horror film Escape Room. From 2015 to 2019 she played Karen Page in various Netflix Marvel shows: Daredevil, The Defenders, and The Punisher.

Kristin Bauer van Straten (Pam)

Pam was the sassy, no nonsense second in command to Eric. Pam often said what the viewers were thinking, so she easily became one of my favorite True Blood characters.

Kristin Bauer van Straten appeared in Nocturnal Animalsin 2016. The film was a psychological thriller starring Amy Adams, Jake Gyllenhaal, Michael Shannon, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson. In 2018, she voiced Killer Frost in the DC film Suicide Squad: Hell to Pay. She also appeared in the Netflix movie Happy Anniversary. In 2020, she reunited with former True Blood co-star Ryan Kwanten in Sacred Lies, a Facebook Watch drama.

Carrie Preston (Arlene Fowler)

Arlene was a minor character throughout True Blood, but she remained a consistent presence on the series from start to finish. She often acted as the comic relief, especially when dealing with her children.

Carrie Preston received an Emmy nomination in 2016 for her guest role on The Good Wife, a show she previously won an Emmy for in 2013. Carrie Preston has had a busy career after True Blood. She appeared in a series called Happyish in 2015. From 2010 to 2016, she had a recurring role on The Good Wife. She also had a recurring role on Person of Interest from 2012 to 2016. In 2017 to 2018, she reprised her role as Elsbeth Tascioni in The Good Wife spin-off The Good Fight. In 2017, she landed a lead role in Claws. A fourth and final season of Claws is expected to drop on TNT in 2020.

Joe Manganiello (Alcide Herveaux)

Alcide, the hot werewolf that almost made Sookie forget about dating those risky vampires.

Joe Manganiello blew up during his time on True Blood. In 2015, he reprised his role as Big Dick Richie in Magic Mike XXL. In 2017, he appeared as Deathstroke in Justice League. The next year he appeared in Dwayne Johnson’s Rampage. He also had a role in Jay and Silent Bob Reboot. Sometime in the near future, he’s supposed to appear in the Netflix comedy The Sleepover, which co-stars Ken Marino, Alyssa Milano, and Malin Akerman. Joe Manganiello has also appeared in episodes of One Day at a Time, The Big Bang Theory, and Mom.

Chris Bauer (Andy Bellefleur)

Andy Bellefleur was the lovable sheriff, who was stubborn and pessimistic, and often hostile towards Jason. As the series goes on, Andy receives more depth and confidence in his abilities.

Chris Bauer played Detective Tom Lange during the first season of American Crime Story. From 2014 to 2017, he played a recurring character on the Starz series’ Survivor’s Remorse. Chris Bauer has also had roles on Law and Order True Crimes, The Deuce, and For All Mankind, and appeared in episodes of Homeland, FBI, and Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

Anna Camp (Sarah Newlin)

Sarah Newlin along with husband Steve Newlin ( Michael McMillian) were televangelists who used religion as a weapon. She has a brief affair with Jason, and Steve becomes a vampire. Sarah becomes one of the main antagonists during the sixth and seventh season.

Anna Camp has a lead role in the Pitch Perfect film series. She also appeared in the shows The Good Wife, Good Girl Revolt, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, and Perfect Harmony. Camp appeared in the films Café Society, The Most Hated Woman in America, and the upcoming Issa Rae and Kumail Nanjiani movie The Lovebirds. Anna Camp co-stars with Steven Strait in a movie about terminal illness, Here Awhile, which is set for a June 9, 2020 video on demand release.

Nelsan Ellis (Lafayette Reynolds)

Lafayette was Tara’s outspoken, scene-stealing cousin Lafayette. He was the most meme-able and memorable character on True Blood.

Nelsan Ellis had roles in the movies Little Boxes, Roxanne Roxanne, The Stanford Prison Experiment, and Get On Up. From 2016 to 2017, he played Shinwell Johnson on Elementary. Sadly and tragically Nelsan Ellis died in 2017 from congestive heart failure.

Martin Scorsese’s The Irishman is three and a half hours. So one would imagine all the actors would be given a lot to say, right? Except Anna Paquin only says seven words in the entire movie as the daughter of the titular “Irishman," Robert De Niro’s Frank Sheeran. It’s been a subject of controversy since the release of the 10-time Academy Award nominated Netflix film. Now, the director has touched upon why Paquin was chosen for the role. In Scorsese’s words:

The Oscar-winning actress’ role in The Irishman has stirred controversy about being perhaps underutilized, but Martin Scorsese explains that he cast her because he knew could pull off the role with little to say. He worked with Anna Paquin a lot to communicate the emotion of her character through body language and eye contact.

Martin Scorsese also talked about how balanced the playing field is between men and women in Oscar-nominated roles. Here’s what he said to Variety:

If you don’t count repeated Oscar nomination from the likes of Robert De Niro, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Joe Pesci, the performance Oscar nominations between men and women in Martin Scorsese’s films are neck and neck. Cate Blanchett’s role in The Aviator, Jodie Foster in Taxi Driver, and Sharon Stone in Casino are just a few of the female recognition brought upon by Scorsese’s direction.

But, seven words is seven words. And it’s tough to argue that Anna Paquin didn’t deserve better. Maybe if Peggy was played by a less-established actress we wouldn't be having this conversation. When Robert De Niro was asked about his on-screen daughter’s lack of dialogue, he said there could have been more but said the performance she had was “terrific and it resonates."

When The Irishman cast introduced their movie at the SAG Awards, the controversy resurfaced the moment Anna Paquin went on stage with some of the cast to talk about the movie. Here was the general reaction among viewers:

Despite her short amount of dialogue, the actress has still been praised for her performance. Her role as Peggy Sheeran has been called the “heart” of the Oscar-nominated drama. The movie is packed with talent between Al Pacino, Joe Pesci, Ray Ramano, Harvey Keitel, and Jesse Plemons. The Irishman is streaming on Netflix right now.

Among the members of The Irishman’s gigantic cast is True Blood and X-Men star Anna Paquin, who plays Peggy Sheeran, the daughter of Robert De Niro’s Frank Sheeran. However, unlike the other major characters in the critically-acclaimed Netflix release, Paquin’s Peggy doesn’t say that much; in fact, the actress only ends up saying seven words in the three and a half hour-long runtime.

The fact that Anna Paquin was given so little to say in The Irishman has drawn polarizing reaction, but Robert De Niro has given his take on the matter, saying how she gave an exemplary performance despite the lack of dialogue. In the actor’s words:

So while Robert De Niro acknowledged in his interview with USA Today that there might have been room to give Anna Paquin a little bit more to say in her scenes opposite him, overall he’s proud of what she was able to accomplish in The Irishman. His opinion joins the scores of people who felt that Paquin’s largely silent performance was a standout and powerful element of The Irishman, while others felt that she was underused.

Here’s what Anna Paquin had to say earlier this month when the criticism about her few lines in The Irishman popped up and she was accused of being “forced” to take the role.

To be fair, the character of Peggy Sheeran said more than just seven words throughout all of The Irishman, as she was also played as a child by Lucy Gallina. However, it’s when Peggy’s an adult that her silent condemnation of her father, who’s been working for the Bufalino crime family and hurting people on her behalf since she was little, becomes so much stronger, especially by the time she utters those seven words.

Warning: SPOILERS for The Irishman are ahead!

Upon meeting Jimmy Hoffa as a child, Peggy Sheeran immediately took a liking to the man, looking at him more favorably than Frank and Joe Pesci’s Russell Buffalino. So when Hoffa disappeared in 1975, she was upset, and when Frank notes how he hasn’t called Jimmy’s wife Josephine since Hoffa went missing, she glares at him and asks "Why" twice. When he asks for clarification on what she means, Peggy inquires, “Why haven’t you called Jo?”

While we never see Peggy Sheeran learning in The Irishman that it was Frank Sheeran who gunned dow Jimmy Hoffa, that exchange was enough to convince her that he played a role in Hoffa’s disappearance. As Robert De Niro’s Frank noted, she cut ties with him after that day, and when he tried to visit her at her banking job towards the end of his life, she refused to speak with him.

Wherever you fall on the Anna Paquin in The Irishman debate, one thing that’s unquestionable is that she had a meaningful role in one of the most well-received movies of the year. It ranks at 96% among critics on Rotten Tomatoes, and it’s all but guaranteed to be a contender at the next awards season.

Before the Marvel Cinematic Universe and DC live-action universe were battling for box office supremacy, Bryan Singer's 2000 hit X-Men broke new ground by proving the genre could be both profitable and popular. The X-Men property is still going strong today, with fans looking forward to the upcoming release of Dark Phoenix. The First Class and original trilogy collided with the ambitious X-Men: Days of Future Past, combining both casts of characters into one massive blockbuster.

Days of Future Past arrived in theaters back in 2014, and was a multi-tiered story that took place in both a dystopian future and 1973. While X-Men fans were happy to see so many familiar faces in one movie, one major mutant got left on the cutting room floor: Anna Paquin's Rogue. While she eventually got her scenes restored in the home video Rogue Cut, it turns out that Paquin has never seen the movie-- either version. As she recently revealed:

Despite being an OG member of the X-Men franchise, it looks like Anna Paquin hasn’t seen her most recent appearance, and the finale to her trilogy’s story. But she’s got a good excuse, as she was still a new mother when Days of Future Past arrived in theaters.

Anna Paquin’s comments to EW about missing Days of Future Past mentions she had recently given birth at the time the blockbuster was released. Paquin and her husband and True Blood co-star Stephen Moyer had twins Poppy and Charlie Moyer in 2012, with the challenge of two babies proving too distracting for the actress to tune into Days of Future Past. And considering how her small role was ultimately cut from the theatrical release, the movie must have been even further from her mind.

While X-Men: Days of Future Past was a brave and bold part of the X-Men franchise, in the end it's just another gig for Anna Paquin. And when things in her personal life needed attention, she became less invested in the comic book property. Rogue hadn't factored heavily into the narrative since back in The Last Stand, so you can't blame Paquin for moving on with her life, while still being open for another cameo.

Rogue's role in Days of Future Past wasn't revealed until the film came out for home release, and the Rogue Cut arrived. After Logan lashed out and injured Ellen Page's Kitty Pryde, the future characters needed Rogue to relieve her. But they had to break her out of a mutant prison first, with Iceman and Magneto doing the honors, and reuniting her with the rest of the group. Iceman even perished in the process, giving him a death separate from the mass execution in the film's third act.

Ultimately, Rogue'e scenes weighed down Days of Future Past's already long runtime, so she ended up on the cutting room floor. Luckily Anna Paquin didn't seem too heartbroken, and her scenes were eventually made available to the fandom anyway. While the character became less vital to the story as the franchise lives on, Rogue's role in the first X-Men franchise was integral to the main plot, and the conflict between good and evil.

It should be interesting to see how Rogue functions onscreen once the deal between Disney and Fox is official. Rogue hasn't been part of the First Class franchise, which is set to continue with the upcoming release of Dark Phoenix. While she hasn't been seen onscreen in a number of years, that might change once the X-Men are adopted into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Comic book fans are eager to see the mutants finally appear in the massive shared universe, although smart money says Disney will be rebooting the property, rather than simply incorporating the existing cast into the MCU.

This potential outcome is a bummer for fans who have followed the X-Men franchise for nearly two decades, but it opens up a ton of narrative possibilities for the titular team of Marvel heroes. Marvel Studios will get a fresh start at iconic characters like Wolverine, Cyclops, Magneto, and (hopefully) Rogue. Fans of Anna Paquin's signature X-Men character know that she's got a quite different origin in the comics than what was portrayed onscreen, so the MCU could break new ground and show a new side to casual moviegoers.

In the comics, Rogue is the adopted daughter of Mystique, who was trained to be a villain. Professor X eventually calls out to her, and she joins the X-Men and becomes a beloved member of the team. What's more, the backstory behind her powers directly relates to Carol Danvers, the character Brie Larson is bringing to theaters with Captain Marvel.

When working for Mystique, Rogue uses her power-stealing abilities to attack Carol Danvers aka Miss Marvel (this was before Captain Marvel became the character's primary name). She holds onto Carol so long that she absorbs her Kree abilities permanently, retaining super strength, near invulnerability, and flight-- in addition to her normal power. With Captain Marvel is set to be a major presence in the future of the MCU, it would be the perfect time to give Rogue the spotlight comic fans have been waiting for her to inhabit.

Unfortunately, most of Marvel's plans after Avengers: Endgame are a mystery. With the exception of Spider-Man: Far From Home, it's unclear what the future of the behemoth franchise holds. Fox and Disney's merger adds extra uncertainty to the situation, with the X-Men franchise still moving forward with the release of Dark Phoenix and The New Mutants. Additionally, there's the Deadpool franchise to worry about as well. While Disney will no doubt keep Ryan Reynolds character alive and well, fans have worried as to whether or not they'll still be rated R. All that remains to be seen, as the general public is left to wait for official news from either camp.

Anna Paquin is heading back to television in 2019 with a new role where she’ll be a bit of a fish out of water. She’s set to star in Flack, a UK-based series where she’ll play an American fixer working in London. On thing that won’t be new to the actress is that she’ll occasionally be surrounded by nudity in the new series, actress, just like her former gig on True Blood. She addressed how this show gets around showing genitalia while at TCA.

Speaking out about the first trailer for Flack, which features a dressed Anna Paquin surrounded by nude gentlemen, the actress revealed the camera took great pains to make sure no one’s naughty bits were in full view. Per the actress,

It sounds like a joke. Due to the scene in question and the cock socks the dudes had to wear for Flack, it’s really, really not, however. You can take a look at the full trailer for the series below.

Speaking to CinemaBlend and other outlets at the Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour, Anna Paquin revealed more about the nude scene, noting that the really tricky part was shooting around the cock socks the dudes in the scene were wearing. Per the actress,

Avoiding porn shots and trying not to kill people -- all in a day's work. Anna Paquin's been pretty busy in recent years, headlining TV projects like Bellevue and Alias Grace. (She also has a stint on The Affair coming up.) However, her work in Flack sounds like it should be some of the most interesting since her HBO series wrapped up.

Considering we see Anna Paquin’s character Robyn getting some of her other clients out of sticky situations, not every single storyline in the TV series will involve Robin's head clearly cock-blocking the camera from showing any explicit genitalia. So, far we'll get to see Robyn's competently crush publicity in her professional life and total muck up her personal life through the first 6 episodes of the brand new series, which will air on Pop stateside. One of the pillars of Fox's early X-Men movies was Anna Paquin's Rogue. Although her role diminished over time, Rogue's personal journey was an important part of those first three films. The last we saw of Rogue was a brief cameo in X-Men: Days of Future Past, though she had a more significant role in The Rogue Cut of that film. Anna Paquin has been absent in the X-Men films since then, but given the complex sci-fi elements and laissez faire approach to continuity of Fox's X-Men films, there's always a chance you'll see someone again. However, Anna Paquin thinks it's unlikely that she will reprise her role as Rogue, as she explained:

It sounds like Anna Paquin is totally willing to play Rogue again if the opportunity arises. She was a part of the X-Men films for a long time and from a young age, so it is cool to hear that she considers that world to be her film family. However, as she told Variety, she probably won't reprise her role as Rogue not because she doesn't want to, but because it does not seem likely that there will be an opportunity to do so. Basically, even though the X-Men universe has grown both on the big screen with films like Deadpool and Logan and on the small screen with shows like Legion and The Gifted, there isn't an obvious and natural place for Rogue.

It may be a bummer for Rogue fans, but Anna Paquin is probably right. X-Men: Days of Future Past was basically a swan song for the original X-Men cast with the exception of Hugh Jackman and Patrick Stewart, but their time as mutants appears to be over now too. Given the way the story has gone, it wouldn't make a lot of sense for Rogue to show up now. For the moment, the focus is all on the new cast that started in X-Men: First Class and will appear next year in X-Men: Dark Phoenix. That said, the X-Men films have never been bound by a strict adherence to logical continuity, so you can never say never, and a Deadpool 3 or X-Force cameo could work since those films feel sort of adjacent to everything else.

The other elephant in the room is the fact that all of the current cast's time as the mutant heroes may be drawing to a close. With the Disney-Fox deal all but finalized, the X-Men are probably headed to the MCU, at which point recasting seems likely. But even if we get a new Rogue in the MCU, Anna Paquin will always be the original Rogue and a vital part of the film that helped usher in the superhero movie era.

Although her time as a mutant may be done, Anna Paquin still has big things on the horizon. Next year, she stars opposite Robert De Niro, Al Pacino and a murderer's row of talent in Martin Scorsese's The Irishman. For movies hitting theaters this year, check out our release guide.

Stories about abuse and sexual harassment continue to pour out the entertainment industry on a near regular basis. The Harvey Weinstein scandal has broken the floodgates as women and men come forward with their own personal accounts of sexual harassment they've received from others in the film and TV worlds. Ellen Page recently wrote in a statement that she experienced sexual harassment from director Brett Ratner, who outed her publicly as a gay woman on the set of X-Men: The Last Stand. Her co-star in the film, Anna Paquin, has now corroborated Page's account of the incident.

In a Facebook post, Ellen Page wrote that Brett Ratner, a successful director and producer, outed her at a "meet and greet" between the cast and crew of X-Men: The Last Stand before filming began. Page was 18-years-old at the time. Anna Paquin, who starred as Rogue in the first three of the X-Men films, claims in a Twitter post that she was there when this happened and that Page's account is accurate. She stands with Page on her accusations of Ratner's actions.

Ellen Page joined six other women who accused Brett Ratner of inappropriate behavior and sexual harassment. The group of women includes Olivia Munn, a fellow X-Men actress. Ratner has had a long history of rumors regarding his behavior. The oftentimes crass director is known for making insensitive comments, something that has cost him work in the past. Ratner has vehemently denied any wrongdoing through his lawyer.

Following the accusations of Brett Ratner's alleged behavior, Ratner has "stepped away" from a $450 million development deal he had between Warner Bros and his production company, RatPac Entertainment. Wonder Woman actress Gal Gadot has also reportedly given Warner Bros. an ultimatum regarding their relationship with Ratner. According to rumor, Gadot is threatening to not return for a Wonder Woman sequel if RatPac Entertainment is in any way involved with the movie. (Ratner was a producer on the original film).

Brett Ratner is among several actors, producers, and executives who have been accused of sexual harassment. Since the Harvey Weinstein scandal broke, Kevin Spacey, Louis C.K., Andrew Kreisberg, and Amazon Studio boss Roy Price are among the men who have been named by several women and men for sexual harassment. Huge shifts and changes have already occurred due to the reports, which seem to grow in number by the day as the deep-rooted misbehavior in the entertainment industry is further revealed.

It's becoming pretty apparent how much Margaret Atwood's work resonates with contemporary audiences, even without actual books being involved. The Handmaid's Tale premiered earlier this year to near-universal acclaim, and more beloved literature from the iconic author will come to life next month when Alias Grace finally premieres on Netflix. During a recent Netflix press event in Los Angeles, I had the chance to ask Alias Grace star Anna Paquin how she feels about possible Handmaid's Tale comparisons. While she understands these comparisons, she also sees that they are two very distinct pieces. The X-Men star explained:

So while some fans have been quick to draw comparisons between The Handmaid's Tale and Alias Grace for their visual and tonal similarities -- both focus on cloak-clad, persecuted women who find strength in the face of oppression -- they are two very different stories. The Handmaid's Tale is cautionary dystopian fiction meant to reflect some of the ugly facets of our own society. By contrast, Alias Grace is a partially fictionalized account of the grisly murders that Irish immigrant Grace Marks may or may not have committed in the 19th century. They're certainly similar because they both come from Margaret Atwood's distinct point of view -- and she's involved behind the scenes on both of these shows -- but they're unique enough to respectively stand on their own.

I also had the chance to meet with Alias Grace director Mary Harron during a roundtable discussion about the upcoming series. Not unlike Anna Paquin, Harron explained that Handmaid's Tale and Alias Grace are getting adaptations not just because the time is right for these feminist stories, but because Atwood's talent is simply worthy of adaptation. On the feminist tone of Atwood's work, the American Psycho director said:

Marvel Comics shows are popping up all over the small screen these days, and one new and enjoyable series is Fox's The Gifted, following a group of mutants in a world where the X-Men are mysteriously absent. The drama stars Stephen Moyer, whose wife Anna Paquin memorably portrayed Rogue in the X-Men film franchise, and some fans have wondered if the actress might appear on The Gifted at some point. CinemaBlend's Conner Schwerdtfeger recently spoke with Paquin about her upcoming Netflix series Alias Grace, and she explained why she's not necessarily interested in a Gifted cameo, either as Rogue or anyone else.

It would certainly be hard for Anna Paquin to show up on The Gifted as Rogue, since there are always complications involved with bringing movie characters to TV. Not to mention all the timeline intricacies involved with Rogue's existence, what with her Days of Future Past work getting relegated to an extended cut on Blu-ray. So that kind of an appearance was already going to be a near-impossibility even if Paquin was extremely interested in making it happen.

Conversely, it would be far easier in a narrative sense to bring Anna Paquin into The Gifted universe as a completely new character, or at least one fully independent from her X-Men history. But as the actress put it, that kind of cameo might take viewers out of the show's reality for a bit, since Paquin is as recognizable to TV and film audiences as anyone else on The Gifted. Not that big stars are forbidden from showing up or anything, but it could easily come across as a goofy moment to stick Paquin and Moyer together for the sake of it.

Not that Anna Paquin couldn't just share a scene with any of the characters that aren't played by Stephen Moyer. She could have a fine time flipping to the more villainous side of things by temporarily teaming up with Garrett Dillahunt's researcher Roderick Campbell. But it's probably not happening, so I guess we'll just have to get used to that.

We can get used to seeing Anna Paquin in Netflix's upcoming drama Alias Grace, based on the novel from Margaret Atwood, who notably wrote The Handmaid's Tale, which has been quite the successful series for Hulu, both with fans and with the Emmys. Alias Grace will make its streaming debut on Friday, November 3, so be sure to check that out whenever you're not in the mood for comic book action.

If there's one thing that TV audiences love these days, it is a hard-boiled, badass detective with a bit of an antihero streak. Now it is time for True Blood's Anna Paquin to get in on the action. On that note, WGN America has officially released a trailer for the upcoming crime drama, Bellevue, and it looks like Paquin is about to get her hands dirty as a bonafide bad cop. Set in the sleepy, blue-collar town of Bellevue (hence the title), the series centers on perpetual outside Annie Rider (Anna Paquin), a detective who never quite fit in with the folks in her seemingly picturesque hamlet. Annie finds herself pulled into the case of her life when a bullied transgender teen goes missing. Becoming increasingly engrossed with the overarching mystery, Annie's home life and family life begin to fall apart as her obsession over the case eventually manages to dig its claws into her mind and gets the best of her. Think True Detective mashed with a grittier version of Riverdale, and you can start to get an idea of what we're working with here. And, of course, she gets to kick some serious ass and take some names along the way.

Despite the amount of pain that Anna Paquin appears to dish out in this trailer for Bellevue -- and in the face of the sheer amount of personal struggle that her character seems to go through -- it is also pretty clear that she is not a villain in this story. Along the way, this preview shows us that Annie will eventually find herself forced to face off against a mysterious figure from her past who has once again taken to tormenting her from a distance. One of the main taglines used in the marketing campaign for the show so far has been the reasonably ominous statement that "Everyone has something to hide," so something tells us that a dark secret is lurking deep in Annie's past that she does not want the rest of the world to find out about anytime soon.

In addition to her status as the show's lead, Anna Paquin is also an executive producer on the series. There's a predominately female creative vision behind the scenes on this project (sadly not the most common sight in the world of television), as Paquin has joined forces with series co-creators Jane Maggs and Adrienne Mitchell to bring this story to life. With such a unique viewpoint driving the show, we will have to wait and see what happens when Bellevue finally gets its U.S. premiere, and Annie gets a chance to cut loose.

As mentioned earlier, this is actually Bellvue's second chance at life on the small screen. The crime drama initially premiered in February in Canada before getting the ax in May. WGN America relatively recently acquired the canceled eight-episode series, and it looks like it will soon have a chance to find new life with American audiences when it arrives here in early 2018. Here's hoping it's popular enough to get a second season ordered.

Bellevue will debut on WGN America early next year on Tuesday, January 23, 2018, at 10 p.m. ET. If you've been even slightly interested in the world of TV and film production, you'll notice that superhero properties and shared unvierses are everywhere. And while the Marvel Cinematic Universe and DC Extended Universe may be battling for dominance, Bryan Singer's X-Men franchise was a game changer in the early 2000s. The franchise has routinely put out new installments, and now the X-Men universe has also arrive on the small screen. FOX's The Gifted premiered last night, with True Blood actor Stephen Moyer playing protagonist Reed Strucker. Moyer is married to franchise favorite Anna Paquin, and he recently revealed the advice he got from the Rogue actress.

Stephen Moyer's comments to Movie Fone sure make it seem like he's in a supportive and hilarious marriage. Because while Moyer was originally hesitant to take a role in The Gifted due to its shooting schedule and location, Anna Paquin was able to convince vampire Bill to join the X-Men franchise. And then she gave him all the pointers he needed to give a truly great performance in the new FOX series.

In particular, Anna Paquin seems to understand the research involved in taking on a comic book character, given how hardcore the fandom is. Comic book fans typically want silver or small screen adaptations to be faithful to the source material, although directors are known to take creative liberties. For instance, Paquin's Rogue in the films didn't have the super strength and flight typically associated with the character, instead just having Rogue's original power.

It's also nice to see how Bryan Singer and Anna Paquin are still close, considering how they worked together on three X-Men films. And since it was Paquin who managed to convince her True Blood co-star and husband to join The Gifted, with Singer directing the pilot, we have to give Rogue the props she deserves.

When the local news is reporting on something important, sometimes outlets will try to do something zany to stand out for audiences. Of course, sometimes the zaniness can happen while the on-air talent is completely unaware anything is amiss. Such a thing occurred on the BBC during a nightly news broadcast, as the anchor's report was complemented by Anna Paquin's boobs on full display in a sex scene from True Blood. Wait, what was that report about, again?

Ah yes, News at Ten anchor Sophie Raworth was talking about a cricket match when her words were suddenly overtaken by Anna Paquin's on-screen talents. Granted, we're talking about a computer or TV screen shown in the far background while the report was ongoing, but if you think size mattered in this situation -- I'm not apologizing there -- then think again, as the BBC got hit up by lots of viewers online wondering why someone was watching porn while a news show was being aired. Thankfully, it wasn't actually pornography, but rather one of True Blood's tender and topless moments between a human-fairy and a vampire.

By going down, er, scrolling down to the replies on Anna Paquin's tweet, one can see a fun exchange between the actress, her husband and former co-star Stephen Moyer, and former co-star Robert Kazinsky. As it's pointed out by Paquin -- for those who didn't automatically recognize the scene in its blurry state on the video -- this scene actually came from the Season 6 episode "Don't You Feel Me," although she just refers to it as "fairy land graveyard sex with Warlow... duh!"

That scene was about as True Blood as True Blood got, with the antagonistic vampire Warlow having a graveyard romp with Sookie during a time where they were temporarily on the same page about him killing her parents and all that jazz. And they were on the same plot of Earth, too, when they were getting busy in the background of the BBC's nightly news. We should all be thankful that the HBO drama was all that was being watched, as things could have gotten much murkier.

While True Blood won't be around for another season at any point in the foreseeable future, Anna Paquin landed two big follow-up TV roles in the last year or so with the upcoming Netflix drama Alias Grace, as well as the Canadian thriller Bellevue, both of which look to be top-notch. (No word on how much graveyard sex either show will have, but we'll assume "none.") She also signed on for a part in the sci-fi anthology Philip K. Dick's Electric Dreams, which is heading to Amazon.

Each year that passes sadly takes away some of pop culture's most beloved entertainers, and this weekend saw the death of True Blood star and fan favorite Nelsan Ellis, who played the fashion-friendly cook and medium Lafayette Reynolds. His passing was a huge shock for everyone, and social media was flooded with touching and heartfelt messages honoring Ellis' life and his career. Most notably, of course, were the posts from the actor's True Blood family, as so many of them shared their mournful thoughts. To start, show lead Anna Paquin.

Like others here, both Anna Paquin and Nelsan Ellis were part of the show from the premiere on, and they both starred in all of True Blood's seven seasons on HBO. Notably, however, Lafayette was nowhere near as successful a survivor in Charlaine Harris' Sookie Stackhouse novels that served as the show's source material. Lafayette was dead by the end of the first book, but the overwhelmingly positive feedback to Ellis' portrayal cemented the character's redeveloped future within the series.

Charlaine Harris, whose next book-to-TV series Midnight, Texas could have been a great project for the actor, had some kind words of her own to share concerning Nelsan Ellis' death.

Kevin Alejandro played the witch/brujo Jesus on True Blood, who was a character created specifically for the TV show to continue developing Lafayette's character, which brought about the two characters' temporary (but still lovely) romance. Naturally, Alejandro was as shocked as anyone by the tragic news.

As the owner of Merlotte's, the restaurant serving as a central True Blood location, Sam Trammell's Sam Merlotte was responsible for a lot of the on-set sweat that Nelsan Ellis poured out while rocking it in the kitchen with Todd Lowe's Terry Bellefleur, who was killed off the show in Season 6. To be expected, both actors shared their thoughts.

Now here's a rundown of some of the other big True Blood stars pouring their hearts out for Nelsan Ellis' untimely passing. Here's Stephen Moyer, who memorably starred as the morally torn vampire Bill Compton.

Definitely not the last of Nelsan Ellis' True Blood co-stars to mourn his loss via social media, as there are many more, Michael Raymond-James was one of the show's big stars in Season 1 as the duplicitous Rene Lenier, who only reappeared once beyond his initial run.

While True Blood may not air new episodes anymore, fans can always hit up HBO Go to watch Nelsan Ellis' Lafayette going through all his former trials and tribulations anew, and he can also be seen as a regular in the most recent season of Elementary. Anna Paquin is heading back to television for the most exciting project she's been in since True Blood. For those of you who were hoping for more Sookie Stackhouse action, you're going to leave disappointed. Paquin is, however, stepping back into the world of the weird as she joins the anthology series Phillip K. Dick's Electric Dreams.

Based on the short stories of the acclaimed science fiction writer Phillip K. Dick, Phillip K. Dick's Electric Dreams will feature 10 standalone episodes featuring both American and British actors. Anna Paquin is slated to star alongside Empire star Terrence Howard in the episode "Real Life" which features a policewoman and video game developer teaming up to stop violent murderers. The series is slated for Amazon Video in the U.S. and Channel 4 in the UK. Paquin's episode was written by science fiction icon Ronald D. Moore. No official date has been revealed for the show, but it is reported to be released sometime within the year. This will be Amazon's second series based on the works of Phillip K. Dick, with the first being The Man In High Castle.

Anna Paquin and Terrence Howard join an increasingly impressive cast list for Phillip K. Dick's Electric Dreams, which was already stacked before their arrival. Variety reports that Paquin will join names like Greg Kinnear, Benedict Wong, Bryan Cranston and Steve Buscemi in a series that gives off some serious Black Mirror vibes. Considering Channel 4's involvement, that appears intentional as the network had great results when they shared Black Mirror with Netflix. Just going off the source material and acting cast announced, it looks like Phillip K. Dick's Electric Dreams is primed to be yet another international hit for the network.

For Anna Paquin, this will be the second major television series she'll be appearing on in 2017. Recently, Paquin was seen on the recently ended Canadian crime drama series Bellevue, where much like Phillip K. Dick's Electric Dreams, she plays a police officer. Paquin's character on Bellevue is tasked with finding a missing transgender teen, while also dealing with a return of a person from her past. Good to hear she has steady work, but I'd love to see Paquin back on a big series stateside again! With rumors swirling about a recasting for Rogue in X-Men, who knows when we'll see her next.

For now, we'll just have to take Anna Paquin's appearance on Phillip K. Dick's Electric Dreams when it lands on Amazon sometime in 2017. Anna Paquin was a well-known actress before she landed the gig on True Blood, but she spent seven seasons on the HBO drama before the show called it quits in 2014. Over the last couple of years, Anna Paquin has taken a few small roles, but now it looks like she's landed another lead TV gig. She's signed on to star in an adaptation of Margaret Atwood's novel, Alias Grace.

Anna Paquin is set to star in the miniseries, playing Nancy Montgomery, a Canadian woman living in the mid 1800s. She's the housekeeper to Thomas Kinnear, a man who famously was murdered, along with Montgomery. The novel, while not as well-known as other works by Atwood like The Handmaid's Tale, is famous for the way it is constructed, with a shifting point of view that looks at the murders and subsequent investigation.

If this project sounds familiar, that's probably because it has been in development for a while. Sarah Polley announced like four years ago that she was trying to put together a movie for the big screen. The project never moved forward on that medium, but now as a TV miniseries, the story should be able to be fleshed out even more in-depth. Sarah Polley is still on board as a writer and a producer, and Mary Harron is set to direct the mini.

Alias Grace is going to be one of those cross-productions between a couple of different companies. The CBC is producing the mini-series alongside Netflix, which means that if you live in Canada you can catch the episode on CBC. If you live anywhere else, the six-episode miniseries will be available through Netflix. It's the same sort of deal that Netflix has worked out with other Canadian TV programs, including the apocalyptic thriller Between.

It's not just Anna Paquin who has landed a role on Alias Grace. Production has already started, and Sarah Gadon is set to play Grace Marks and Zachary Levi; we'll keep you updated regarding other casting news as the miniseries moves forward.

Anna Paquin has made a mark on both the big and small screen with some memorable roles, including playing Rogue in the X-Men franchise and playing popular character Sookie Stackhouse on HBO's True Blood. She's a good fit for television in particular, and while Alias Grace is only a miniseries, it is a lead role--much bigger than the small gig on Roots we saw her in earlier this year. A few months ago, we also learned that she was signed on for a potential ABC pilot, although that might not be going anywhere. Hopefully, this will lead to another full-time TV series in the soon-to-be future.

Some actors who are lucky enough to land major roles are also unlucky enough to be defined by them for the rest of their careers. Luckily, Anna Paquin of True Blood fame has moved onward and upward after her stint as Sookie Stackhouse on the phenomenally popular HBO vampire drama. Her latest project will be a pilot for ABC, entitled Broken.

Broken will follow the personal and professional life of a ruthless divorce attorney named Gemma, according to Deadline. Her life will begin to unravel when her emotionally-damaged and love-addicted sister reappears in her life. The reunion will trigger self-destructive tendencies and expose secrets long-hidden in the family. All things considered, Gemma looks to be a meaty role for Paquin.

Gemma’s sister will be played by Charity Wakefield, fresh off of the cancelled NBC drama The Player. Wakefield was one of the brighter spots of the short-lived series, so hopefully she’ll be a good fit for the role opposite Anna Paquin.

The project has thus far only been ordered to pilot, so it may not move forward to series; still Paquin has been keeping busy. She has a major role in A&E’s upcoming miniseries remake of Roots that is set to run for four installments starting in May of 2016. Paquin clearly hasn’t been typecast as a result of True Blood, and we should count ourselves lucky that the limited run of Roots will mean she’s free to take on what could be a starring role in a longer-running series.

The pilot for Broken is written by Meaghan Oppenheimer, who also created and will executive produce the project. Reese Witherspoon is attached to the project as an executive producer as well, so there’s plenty of name recognition already in play.

Considering that Broken will air on ABC if ordered to series, we can definitely count on distinctly less skin being shown by Paquin than on True Blood. There will presumably also be less blood-drinking, vampirism, and supernatural love triangles, although only time will tell on those fronts. Paquin has been well-liked on both the big and small screen, so we can be sure that she can tackle whatever Oppenheimer and Witherspoon throw her way for the show.

There aren’t too many details so far about Broken, so there’s no saying just when the pilot will go into production. With Anna Paquin starring and Reese Witherspoon attached, however, we can only hope that the brass at ABC are happy enough with the first episode to give the series a chance with audiences. In the meantime, we can always get our Anna Paquin fix by re-watching episodes of True Blood, some of the X-Men movies, and/or Fly Away Home for a touching story about a young girl and her geese. Gemma on Broken could go in any direction, so it can't hurt to have a lot of Paquin gigs to prepare us.

Having been cut out of X-Men: Days Of Future Past, Anna Paquin would be well within her rights to never work as a mutant ever again. But clearly the 33-year-old actress doesn’t bare any grudges. In fact, her love for all things X-Men is still rather rampant, as Paquin admitted that she’d love to reprise her role as Rogue given the opportunity.

Anna Paquin insisted that the fact she has spent half of her life interacting with the X-Men crew, dating all the way back to the first instalment of the franchise back in 2000, means that she would love any opportunity to see them again.

It’s always great to hear the cast and crew of a hugely popular franchise waxing lyrical about just how much fun they had while shooting. And since Anna Paquin basically admitted to IGN that she would even be a distant extra in a crowd scene in an X-Men film just to spend time with her cinematic brethren again it’s safe to say that she adored her time working as Rogue. But what are the chances of us actually seeing Anna Paquin as Rogue again? Unfortunately, not great.

Even though our gateway into 2000’s X-Men came through her character Marie D’Ancanto/Rogue, and she was still a firm fixture in X-2 and X-Men: The Last Stand, the series is now moving on to a new generation of mutants. That’s why Paquin didn’t star in X-Men: First Class, and it’s also partly the reason why she was mostly cut out of X-Men: Days Of Future Past, too. Those of you who want to get a glimpse of Anna Paquin in Days Of Future Past can have a peek at one of her scenes, which was released as part of the film’s Rogue Cut, below.

The X-Men franchise continues on without Anna Paquin though, with X-Men: Apocalypse finally being released into cinemas on May 27, 2016.

Last year, when X-Men: Days of Future Past hit theaters, it was full of familiar mutants, a few newcomers, and numerous storylines playing out in different eras. One character originally slated to appear, but who wound up on the cutting room floor, was Anna Paquin’s Rogue, who fans know from the very first run of X-Men movies. As it turns out, however, she didn’t really mind being left out all that much.

The 33-year-old actress, who was nominated for an Oscar in 1993 at the age of eleven, first played Rogue in 2000’s X-Men. Even though she didn’t make the final cut of Days of Future Past, aside from a brief cameo to punctuate the rewritten timeline at the end, she told Yahoo that her stint on set was still a damn fine time. She said:

Though Rogue was ultimately excised from director Bryan Singer’s film, she did eventually get her day. After much fan outcry, 20th Century Fox released the so-called Rogue Cut of Days of Future Past on Blu-ray, and the alternate edit restored a full seventeen minutes of footage and an entirely unseen story arc that was in the script and filmed, though removed for the theatrical release.

While the restored version does admittedly have some nice moments, and fans do love them some Rogue, once you watch it, it becomes easy to see why it was trimmed from a movie that was already well over two hours long. It really would have been just one more aside in a film that was very, very full to begin with, and it was cut to quicken the tempo and smooth out some uneven pacing issues. Fans appreciate the addition, but it’s more for those who want a complete view, as this arc pulls the viewer away from the main narrative.

In the cut scenes, shortly after Logan (Hugh Jackman) accidentally stabs Kitty Pride (Ellen Page), they decide to keep his consciousness in the past by transferring her powers to another mutant. Fans of the franchise are well aware that Rogue has the ability to absorb and use such aptitudes from others. Unfortunately, she’s one of many who have been captured by the Sentinels, and Magneto (Ian McKellen) and Ice Man (Shawn Ashmore) are dispatched to break her out of her prison in order to prevent the future from becoming a terrible, mutant-hating wasteland of shit and despair.

As far as we know, Anna Paquin won’t be back for the next chapter, X-Men: Apocalypse, which opens next year (or Gambit, for that matter), but when comic book movies are concerned, never say never until you see the movie. And sometimes not even then.

Apparently, Gambit has 99 problems, but Rogue ain’t one — which totally blows. Following the news that Rise of the Planet of the Apes director Rupert Wyatt dropped out of the solo Gambit film for Fox, Anna Paquin has come out to confirm that she will not be reprising her role in the film. Talk about a missed opportunity.

Paquin, who portrays Rogue in the X-Men films and appeared briefly in the theatrical cut of Days of Future Past, revealed the news on Twitter. User Gerard Skeleton (@ChargeTheCards) asked if the actress would appear in Gambit, to which to responded with the simplest of answers.

In the comics and the animated X-Men TV series, Gambit and Rogue had a very tumultuous and tragic relationship. The card-slinging mutant was smitten by her, though they could never be intimate, thanks to her power- and life-essence-absorbing abilities. The film adaptations replaced Gambit with Shawn Ashmore’s Iceman as her love interest beginning in 2000’s X-Men, and the complications with her powers were explored somewhat in X2 and briefly in The Last Stand.

Given how different Rogue is from the comics, it’s not too surprising that Paquin won’t play a major part in Gambit’s life. But it still comes as a disappointment.

Channing Tatum is set to star as Remy LeBeau, a mutant with the ability to transform potential energy into kinetic energy. Aside from his combat staff, his most frequent use of this ability is charging up decks of cards with explosive energy and throwing them like grenades. Taylor Kitsch first portrayed the character on screen opposite Hugh Jackman in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Considering that recasting characters is now a thing in this cinematic universe — Tatum replaced Kitch, actor Andre Tricoteux is replacing Daniel Cudmore as Colossus in Deadpool, and younger actors have come in to replace core X-Men members in the upcoming Apocalypse — it is possible that Rogue could still be a part of Gambit with a different actress in the role. Though, that would seem a bit farfetched.

As for Anna Paquin, though she appeared for a split second at the end of Days of Future Past, director Bryan Singer released a Rogue Cut of the film and revealed her scenes that were deleted. They featured future Magneto and Iceman breaking Rogue out from a facility after Kitty is accidentally injured by Wolverine.

2015 is the greatest year that has ever happened because it’s the first year that will include two Pixar feature films. After the awesomeness that was Inside Out we’re even more excited for The Good Dinosaur this fall. The D23 Expo did not disappoint Pixar fans as they’ve given us a new look at the trio of Tyrannosauruses who will be facing off against our Hero Arlo.

Arlo the Apatosaurus and his human companion Spot will face all sorts of trials, troubles and fierce creatures on their journey together but at D23 this weekend director Peter Sohn and producer Denise Ream showed off a closer look at the three Tyrannosauruses who will be among those fierce creatures. The trio will be voiced by AJ Buckley, Anna Paquin and Sam Elliott, playing the parts of Nash, Ramsey, and Butch respectively. While the T-Rexes certainly look beastly, and the first trailer shows one of them looking ready to attack, the image that we have instead shows them standing with Arlo and Spot, so while the characters may be antagonists at first it looks like they may work together at some point as well.

The movie tells a "what if" story that begins with the idea that the asteroid that caused the dinosaurs mass extinction never happened. Dinosaurs have continued to evolve and are now significantly more intelligent. Humans do exist but are little more than beasts.

The Good Dinosaur has seen one of the longest roads to the screen of any animated film in recent memory. The voice actors of Eliott, Paquin and Buckley are part of the new crop of talent that was brought in when the film went through a major creative overall that resulted in re-casting nearly all the voice talent of the movie. It’s not clear whether these three replaced existing voice actors, or if these characters didn’t even exist prior to the change in the film’s direction.

Our three T-Rexes are part of what appears to be a movie that will not be skimping on the action. The Good Dinosaur is ready to take viewers on an epic journey as Arlo attempts to make his way back home after getting lost. There are several dangerous dinosaurs as well as a dangerous environment that our heroes must make their way through. It also looks to be an emotional journey as well. Something to be prepared for. Apparently this is the year that Pixar makes you cry.

We’re looking forward to this Thanksgiving when The Good Dinosaur is released. There appear to be several more characters we haven’t met yet. Stay tuned in case we get more info from D23. Otherwise we’ll see you in line November 25.

I could go on for days about all the ways in which Sons of Anarchy was an incredible slice of TV pie, but I’ll just mention how pitch-perfect 99% of the casting was throughout the show’s seven seasons. Sadly, the world missed out on two potentially amazing guest spots in Season 7, as True Blood stars Stephen Moyer and Anna Paquin had the chance to take a couple of roles, but it all fell apart. Just like everything else in Jax Teller’s life.

Apparently Moyer and Paquin – whose real-life marriage was complemented by their onscreen romance as Bill Compton and Sookie Stackhouse, respectively – are giant fans of Sons of Anarchy, and creator Kurt Sutter wanted to reward their fandom by casting them in roles that shouldn’t surprise anyone that loves the violent biker drama. Here’s how Moyer put it to EW

Not that Moyer hasn’t played a variety of roles outside his posh True Blood vamp, but it would have still been a shock to see him pop up in the same city as SAMCRO. And for Paquin to take on the role of one of Charming’s less reputable citizens, that would have been great as well.

While he wasn’t quite directly clear about what roles they’d have played, the only pimp and whore I can specifically think of in Season 7 came during Episode 7, ”Greensleeves,” in which the titular pimp gets rough with his girls, and his girls then get rough with Jax and Chibs. Jax also gets his bike smashed up, which means that Moyer wouldn’t have been long for this world at all. The whore in question, Winsome (Inbar Lavi), got together with Jax as well, and I’m not sure if my TV could have taken a sexed up scene between Anna Paquin and Charlie Hunnam.

Stephen Moyer wouldn’t have long to wait before getting to work with Kurt Sutter, though, as he’ll be starring in the upcoming FX drama The Bastard Executioner, which looks like a fine mix of blood, violence and anger, things that fans of Sons of Anarchy and True Blood are used to seeing.

When X-Men: Days of Future Past-The Rogue Cut is released next week, it will add the titular mutant’s cut scenes back into the film. In the theatrical version, moviegoers only saw Anna Paquin’s character for a brief second near the end of the film, but in this extended version, fans can see her back in action and helping out in the fight against the Sentinels. As it turns out, there was a good reason Rogue had to be cut from the final product: her role was too self-contained.

In an exclusive featurette posted by Bleeding Cool, producer Hutch Parker revealed that Rogue was pulled out of the film because her storyline had the least amount of impact on the overall plot. Parker said:

After an eight year absence from the franchise, Paquin was seen in early trailers for X-Men: Days of Future Past, but months later, the studio revealed that her role had been all but erased for the theatrical version. In The Rogue Cut, after Wolverine accidentally stabs Kitty Pryde, Professor X and Magneto decide the only way they can keep the clawed mutant’s mind in the past if if they can transfer Kitty’s phasing powers to another mutant. Together, along with Iceman, they track Rogue down to a mutant prison and break her out. In the theatrical cut, Kitty was still injured by Wolverine, but simply fought through the pain to keep his mind rooted in the 1970s, and thus kept the story relatively the same. Regardless of which version you watch, thanks to Wolverine’s intervention in the past, the threat of the Sentinels has been wiped out and Rogue is now living in peace with the other X-Men in the present era.

In addition to the ability-absorbing mutant’s sequence, The Rogue Cut will feature deleted moments from some of the film’s other major mutants, like Beast and Mystique. These added scenes will extend the film’s running time by approximately 17 minutes. There will also be plenty of extra material in the Blu-ray/DVD collection, including more featurettes and a gag reel.

Fans can buy X-Men: Days of Future Past-The Rogue Cut on July 14, but those attending Comic-Con will get the opportunity to see a special screening of the film tomorrow at 8 pm at the Reading Theater in San Diego’s Gaslamp District.

Despite being part of the expansive X-Men: Days of Future Past cast during production, Anna Paquin's Rogue drew the short stick when it came to the final cut of the film, and ultimately only appeared as a cameo in the final scene. Comic Book Resources uploaded this video, which seems to be a foreign trailer for X-Men: Days of Future Past's Rogue Cut. Most of the footage is just from the theatrical version of the movie, but it takes a quick turn at the very end when we not only see Hugh Jackman's Wolverine say Rogue's name but also a quick glimpse at Paquin in costume with her famous white-streaked hairstyle. It's admittedly not much, and one can hope that future previews will give us a bit more 'new' to look at, but the good news is that the upcoming release promises a great deal of never-before-seen action.

This Is Why X-Men Fans Will Want To Buy The Rogue Cut

Originally, Rogue was going to have a significant role to play in the "Future" part of X-Men: Days of Future Past. As you may remember, there's a part in the movie when Wolverine accidentally stabs Ellen Page's Kitty Pryde, causing her to weaken and for the time-traveling mission to be in jeopardy. In the Rouge Cut, the group of surviving mutants decide that the only way to help Kitty is to get the help of another member of the X-Men who has the ability to take other mutants' powers. In order to make this happen, Patrick Stewart's Professor X, Ian McKellen's Magneto, and Shawn Ashmore's Ice Man head to a prison to try and break Rogue out.

This sequence was ultimately cut out of X-Men: Days of Future Past because it wound up slowing down the pace of the movie - which was a hefty 132 minutes long when it came to cinemas - but I'm very excited to see what the Rogue Cut adds to the experience. The fact that there wasn't enough material set in the "future" part of the blockbuster's plot was really the chief element that disappointed me about the movie, and it sounds like that issue will be repaired in the special version that is being put together (which will be 148 minutes long).

We've been hearing about X-Men: Days of Future Past - The Rogue Cut for months now, but it is now actually almost here. You can start looking for copies of it in stores nationwide when it hits shelves on July 14th. It’s been known for quite some time that Pixar’s upcoming The Good Dinosaur experienced a bevy of behind-the-scenes creative clashes. The studio made an abrupt director swap and overhauled the entire script, creating delays that cost the film its original 2014 release window. In the latest development, it has been revealed that the extent of its changes went even further, replacing nearly every member of its voice cast.

According to an official reveal, the voice cast that we knew of The Good Dinosaur is now as extinct as the film’s titular clade. Save for Frances McDormand, the vocal performances that previously included Lucas Neff, Neil Patrick Harris, John Lithgow, Bill Hader, and Judy Greer have been nixed. It’s actually a rather shocking revelation, especially considering that, apparently without this critical piece of context, the film’s debut teaser trailer hit just one week ago.

As of now, the official cast for The Good Dinosaur centers on 13-year-old Raymond Ochoa, replacing Lucas Neff as the film’s 70-foot-long Apatosaurus protagonist named Arlo. Coming from a quartet of brothers who are also working actors, Ochoa has made a number of live-action television appearances on shows like The Night Shift and Rizzoli & Isles. He is primarily known for voice work in notable animated features like Monsters University, Mars Needs Moms, and Disney’s A Christmas Carol, however, this role as the titular character in a major Pixar feature is clearly a step up in noteworthiness.

Filling out the rest of the cast, we have Jeffrey Wright as Poppa, Arlo’s father, Anna Paquin as a T-Rex named Ramsey, Sam Elliott as a T-Rex named Butch, Steve Zahn as a pterodactyl named Thunderclap, AJ Buckley as a T-Rex named Nash, Marcus Scribner as Arlo’s brother Buck, and Jack Bright as Arlo’s adopted human pet/friend, Spot. Additionally, in what appears to be the only remaining original cast member, Frances McDormand voices Arlo’s mother.

This surprising cast replacement seems to be the culmination of what was a creative crisis at Pixar over The Good Dinosaur that saw previous director Bob Peterson removed, later replaced by current director Peter Sohn. Yet the project also proved to be exceptionally difficult for a number of big brass at Pixar, rendering it somewhat of a hot potato, passed around from one creative maestro to the next. In fact, the delays were so egregious that the deferment of its 2014 date caused the studio to actually sit out a whole year without a new release; something that they had not done since 2005.

Based on what was said last year by now-former cast member John Lithgow, the script went from simple alterations to the point of being rewritten entirely, requiring the voice cast to re-record their performances. How little did we know. In fact, Lithgow seemed to have every intention on returning to voice what he called a "completely reimagined" story and even expressed excitement over the new, completely altered script. Today’s reveal confirms that these encore performances never came to fruition.

Of course, Pixar has every intention making up for their 2014 inertia, starting with the buzz-worthy, psychologically satirical journey into the mind of a young girl, Inside Out, which hits theaters next week on June 19. Five short months later, The Good Dinosaur looks to prove the old adage, "better late than never," when their hypothetical world of extinction-avoiding dinosaurs hits theaters on November 25.

Rogue has long been a fan favorite character in the X-Men canon, but the truth is that the mutant heroine hasn't really had the opportunity to do very much on the big screen. Played by Anna Paquin in the original X-Men trilogy as well as X-Men: Days of Future Past, she got plenty of chances to mope and be a disgruntled teen with unfortunate powers, but she didn't really ever get into the action and fight the forces of evil. Evidently, Paquin herself has noticed this, and as a result her one requirement for ever getting back into the X-Men franchise is that she has to be allowed to fly and kick ass.

This revelation was made by the Oscar-winning actress herself, who recently took to her personal Twitter to answer a fan's question. Asked if she would ever be up for playing the role of Rogue once again, Paquin explained,

By itself, one could see this as just being an off-the-cuff remark/joke, but it was in a follow-up Tweet that Anna Paquin made herself very clear about what it would take to get her to do an X-Men movie again:

Fans of the movie version of Rogue know that her mutant ability is that she can touch a person and absorb their powers, but there was a time in the comics that Rogue was able to fly. This is because at one point she fully absorbed the gifts of the original Ms. Marvel a.k.a. Carol Danvers (a process that also gave Rogue enhanced strength and speed, immunity from poisons and other powers). If the X-Men movies were to try and give Rogue these extra abilities, however, they would have to find an alternative "origin story," as Ms. Marvel is a character that belongs to Marvel Studios and therefore can't be used by 20th Century Fox.

Whether or not we will actually ever get to see Anna Paquin in another X-Men movie is unknown at this point, though it really would be nice if the franchise could right its past wrongs by bringing her back in a more kick-ass capacity. After all, they're in the process of trying to do that with Cyclops, and fair is fair.

Since the release of X-Men: Days of Future Past last May, there has been a lot of talk of the so-called "Rogue Cut" of the film, featuring scenes of Anna Paquin’s character that had been excised from the theatrical version. An extended cut of the film hits Blu-ray soon and restores this footage, and also adds a significant amount of run time to the movie.

According to Digital Spy, the new extended version of director Bryan Singer’s latest foray into the realm of the super mutant team will be eleven minutes and eleven seconds longer than the original, and feature a bunch of heretofore unseen footage. This brings the full length of the movie up to 142 minutes.

In the version we’ve all already seen (or at least you should have seen, it’s a damn good time, as well as the highest grossing chapter in the franchise), Rogue only shows up for a short time in what is essentially just a quick cameo. You see her in the flash forward scene at the end of the film, along with some other familiar faces from the original X-Men trilogy, but only after the main conflict has been resolved. In the original version, however, she played a much more substantial role.

Losing the Rogue subplot was reportedly the biggest cut made to Days of Future Past, but was made in order to keep the central story more focused. According to the reports, the new extended cut restores a big action sequence that revolves around Rogue. It sees Magneto (Ian McKellen) and Iceman (Shawn Ashmore) on a mission to rescue her from a kind of concentration camp controlled by the mutant-hunting robotic Sentinels.

From this description, and the fact that it clocks in at more than eleven minutes, it certainly sounds like it will be a significant addition to the movie. Having Rogue around could certainly have come in handy when Logan (Hugh Jackman) accidentally slashes Kitty Pride (Ellen Page). While it does sound like it will be a nice addition to the whole, especially for fans of the earlier films, it’s still understandable why it was left out of the theatrical run.

In X-Men: Days of Future Past, Wolverine is sent back into the 1970s to stop Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence) from assassinating Bolivar Trask (Peter Dinklage), the man responsible for creating the Sentinels. In the past, she was captured and her DNA used to make the automatons nearly invincible, which spelled the inevitable doom for most of mutant kind. The film also brings together the two X-Men timelines.

We’ve got the sequel to Days of Future Past, X-Men: Apocalypse on the way in 2016, and the "Rogue Cut" is expected to be released sometime this summer.

Fox Home Entertainment announced a few months ago that an extended "Rogue Cut" of X-Men: Days of Future Past would be released to include Rogue’s storyline that was omitted from the original film, as well as extra footage featuring several different characters. To those interested in the Rogue Cut, but not interested in buying a second copy of Days of Future Past, it seems like the Rogue Cut will be its own, unique product, and definitely worth the purchase.

James Finn, the vice president of marketing communications for Fox Home Entertainment, has revealed on Twitter that the Rogue Cut will definitely not be a reproduction of blu-ray that features the theatrical version. Here’s what he had to say when asked if the theatrical version of Days of Future Past would be on the Rogue Cut:

So it would seem that getting a copy of the Rogue Cut in addition to your Days of Future Past theatrical version wouldn’t mean stocking your shelves with differently titled blu-rays that are essentially two copies of the same film. It is a pretty interesting move for Fox Home Entertainment to release the Rogue Cut without the original theatrical version with its own set of special features, but it definitely makes this version of the film seem much more exciting, and will offer fans the chance to see Anna Paquin’s full part of Days of Future Past, not just the cut-weirdly quick cameo we saw of her at the very end of the film.

Beyond the fact that the Rogue Cut will be an entirely different product than the theatrical blu-ray, Finn was pretty coy about revealing other goodies we can expect to see. While we don’t know much in the way of special features we can expect or the other characters who will be highlighted on the Rogue Cut, we do know the basic storyline around Rogue’s role in Days of Future Past. Magneto and Iceman set on a rescue mission to free Rogue from a mutant concentration camp, and get Rogue to absorb Kitty Pryde’s powers and take over for Kitty as Logan’s time travel anchor.

Rogue fans were pretty bummed to not get much of their favorite mutant in Days of Future Past, especially after she tried out the promising (albeit temporary) mutant "cure" at the end of The Last Stand. While her part in the film was cut for pacing reasons, Fox knew immediately that Rogue fans would be incredibly upset to not to see more time from Paquin. Almost as soon as it was announced that Rogue’s role in the film had been reduced to a cameo, Fox started talking about releasing a Rogue Cut. While we don’t have an official release date of the Rogue Cut at this point, Finn did announce on his Twitter that we can expect the film to hit stores in the summer of 2015.

Bryan Singer's X-Men: Days of Future Past promises to bring together multiple generations of the mutant superhero team, with the worlds of the original X-Men trilogy and Matthew Vaughn's X-Men: First Class colliding, but today it has been sadly announced that one fan-favorite character has been axed from the final cut of the film. During a recently interview with Entertainment Weekly, the director revealed that Anna Paquin, who plays Rogue in the cinematic X-Men series, is no longer going to appear in next summer's blockbuster.

The detail was uncovered when Singer explained how a rescue sequence that was shot in the beginning of production on the movie ended up needing to get cut. The scene features Magneto (Ian McKellen), Professor X (Patrick Stewart), Rogue (Anna Paquin), and Iceman (Shawn Ashmore), but Singer says that it ultimately affected the pacing of the film negatively. The good news, however, is that we will be able to see it someday. Explained the filmmaker,

I must say that this is kind of a bummer. The last time we saw Rogue, in X-Men: The Last Stand, she had received the mutant "cure" and was going on to try and live a normal life. Thanks to the last shot of Magneto in the movie we know that the "cure" ended up being temporary, but what then what happened to Rogue? We won't get an answer to that question until the movie comes out on home video some time next fall, and it sounds like they won't be getting too deep into the material. Maybe she will play a crucial role in 2016's X-Men: Apocalypse?

X-Men: Days of Future Past may not include Paquin, but it does have a full roster of familiar faces. From the original trilogy we will once again get to see Sir Patrick Stewart, Sir Ian McKellen, Hugh Jackman, Halle Berry, Shawn Ashmore, Ellen Page, and Daniel Cudmore,while returning First Class members include James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, and Nicholas Hoult. Joining the franchise in new roles will be Adam Canto, Peter Dinklage, Omar Sy, Booboo Stewart, Evan Peters, Josh Helman, and Fan Bing Bing. While Famke Janssen wound up playing a fairly significant role in James Mangold's The Wolverine, coming back as Logan's love Jean Grey, apparently she almost wasn't the only character from the original X-Men trilogy in the movie other than the titular character. In an interview with CreativeScreenwriting (via Superhero Hype), screenwriter Mark Bomback revealed that there was an early version of the film that featured the return of Anna Paquin's Rogue.

"I love Rogue and I just think that there’s something about this idea that Rogue is tremendously empathetic but incapable of safe human contact," Bomback told the site when asked about other mutants that were considered for the sequel. "I was trying to do something with Rogue in the script. I even had a set of ideas that the old man possessed a version of Rogue’s power and that was going to be indicated by a white stripe in his hair." So what happened to the idea?

While The Wolverine did certainly have its fair share of problems, its small number of mutant characters certainly wasn't one of them - in fact, it made the film better. Unlike previous subpar efforts in the franchise like X-Men: The Last Stand and X-Men Origins: Wolverine, the film didn't overload audiences with mutants that had cool powers but nothing to add to the plot. It helped the story be more contained and small, allowing the audience to actually focus on the characters that matter.

And for you Rogue fans who are upset that she wasn't in The Wolverine, there's good news: Paquin is set to reprise the role in Bryan Singer's upcoming X-Men: Days of Future Past. While it hasn't been officially confirmed, rumors have suggested that the character will play a significant part in the sequel, which will tie the timelines of the X-Men trilogy and X-Men: First Class together. She will be joined by trilogy co-stars Sir Patrick Stewart, Sir Ian McKellen, Hugh Jackman, Halle Berry, Shawn Ashmore, Ellen Page, and Daniel Cudmore; First Class actors James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult and Lucas Till, and series newcomers Adam Canto, Peter Dinklage, Omar Sy, Booboo Stewart, Evan Peters, Josh Helman, and Fan Bing Bing

In a press release on Wednesday, HBO announced that Season 6 of True Blood would kick off far more spectacularly than usual, with a Social TV pre-show, as well as a big social media event for all Truebies. Honestly, I’ve been watching the series since the beginning and I had no idea we were supposed to call ourselves “Truebies;” regardless, those fans who are so into the series they already know what to call themselves should appreciate the big social media event.

First, the show is doing the usual “tweet the premiere” thing to find the greatest “Truebie” (that word again!). All fans need to do for that social media promotion is follow True Blood on Twitter. I would give you the handle, but if you don’t know how to type the words “true” and “blood” into the search box, you’re a hopeless case for Twitter, anyway.

The other two new social kick-off events are a little more novel. The first involves heading to True Blood’s profile on Facebook, Twitter (there’s the link, you’re welcome), Instagram, or Vine. Beginning at 9 a.m. ET on June 16, fans will get the chance to virtually head to Fangtasia to catch up with 13 cast members from the series and learn various “secrets from the set." If you stick with the Fantasia crew all day, at 8:45 p.m. ET on June 16, HBO will air an interactive pre-show called #TrueBlood: Live From The Set to get fans caught up on more juicy details concerning the series and Season 6. Cast members involved with the social media event include Anna Paquin, Stephen Moyer, Alexander Skarsgård, Ryan Kwanten, Rutina Wesley, Sam Trammell, Nelsan Ellis, Deborah Ann Woll, Carrie Preston, Todd Lowe, Chris Bauer, Kristin Bauer van Straten and Joe Manganiello.

In the wake of Alan Ball leaving the show, True Blood seems to be doing just fine. However, we’ll have to wait and see what direction Season 6 goes in when True Blood premieres on Sunday, June 16 at 9 p.m. ET.

Elijah Wood has good news for noir fans, as the actor turned producer is adapting Elliott Chaze’s lauded 1953 crime novel Black Wings Has My Angel into a feature film with some tantalizing talent attached. Screen Daily reveals True Blood temptress Anna Paquin has signed on to co-star opposite intriguing Thor antagonist Tom Hiddleston in the thriller that centers on an armored car heist that forever changes the lives of a thief and the call girl he's fallen for.

Black Wings Has My Angel has proved a passion project for producer and co-writer Christopher Peditto, who Cinematical reported spent more than a decade working to secure the rights to the novel that had been out of print for nearly 50 years. He's crafted the resulting screenplay with Wild At Heart screenwriter Barry Gifford and the film's attached director Alfonso Pineda Ulloa. The Mexican writer-director who is currently in post-production on his last effort, the hotel-set drama Restos, will make his English-language feature debut with Black Wings Has My Angel.

As to the cast, Paquin will play the call girl named Virginia, who meets cold but sexy ex-con Tim Sunblade at a Mississippi motel and follows him all the way to Colorado for a brazen robbery. While Wood is also slated to co-star in the film, it seems certain the role of Sunblade has more likely been given to Hiddleston, as this past summer showed that the English actor is not only a compelling antagonist, but also a crush-inspiring leading man. While Wood's role still remains a mystery, with Hiddleston and Paquin on board, Black Wings Has My Angel is sure to capture the scintillating sex appeal inherent in crime-thrillers from noir's heyday.

Ever since Drew Barrymore was murdered while her Jiffy Pop burned on the stove, the Scream franchise has taken a specific plesaure in killing big-name actresses early on the films. Jada Pinkett Smith got the boot at the beginning of Scream 2 and Jenny McCarthy was the early victim in Scream 3, but so far we haven't figured out which famous actresses will be knocked off in Scream 4, which has beenf liming in Michigan all summer. They probably want to keep it secret, but USA Today thinks they know who it will be-- and it's not one actress but two.

They're reporting that Anna Paquin and Kristen Bell are both set for cameos in the film, and while they don't specifically say that the two would be killed off in the beginning of the film, that's the logical assumption for anything in this murder-happy franchise. Paquin is probably a bit more famous than Bell at the moment with that Rolling Stone cover and the ubiquity of True Blood, but both would be instantly recognizable to Scream 4 audiences. If you thought Anna Paquin was looking bloody here, just wait and see her after Ghostface takes a stab.

The first trailer for The Romantics has popped online courtesy of Apple. Starring Katie Holmes, Anna Paquin, Josh Duhamel, Malin Akerman, Candice Bergen and Elijah Wood, the film centers on a wedding which reunites a group of seven friends, but conflict emerges due to the fact that both the bride and the maid of honor are in love with the groom. The trailer, however, seems to ask more questions than it answers.

The trailer does a fine job explaining the narrative, but is this supposed to be a comedy or a drama? The IMDb page suggests both, but where are the laughs? Also, if you know that there's an emotional connection between the man you are marrying and an old friend, why on Earth do you put her in the wedding party, let alone invite her to the wedding to begin with? Elijah Wood's character calls Anna Paquin the bane of Katie Holmes' existence. And if that's true, why does Holmes even show up? Hopefully the movie will do a better job explaining this.

We’re a legitimate movie blog so we don’t write about celebrity nudity (much), we just secretly enjoy it. For all your celebrity nudity needs your best bet is probably the infamous Mr. Skin who has spent all of his life in a basement fast forwarding through DVDs looking for nipples. But it’s the end of the year and with everyone announcing awards Skin has to take his turn. He’s announced the top ten nude scenes in entertainment for 2009, and surprisingly, not all of them are in film.

With edgy, pay-cable like HBO and Showtime pushing the envelope, they’ve taken the crown as the best place to see famous and semi-famous women naked. The top nude scene of 2009 happened on the David Duchovny show Californication and starred someone named Eva Amuri. If you watch it, then maybe you know who the hell Skin’s talking about. But runner up was the Jessica Biel, who played a stripper and actually took her clothes off in Powder Blue. Unfortunately nudity doesn’t equal box office and no one saw it.

The True Blood panel was the last of the day in Ballroom 20. It was packed, as in packed to the gills, as in not a seat available anywhere. It was the end of the long day that started around 8:00am lining up for Chuck and made for an exhausting day. But enough of my whining, what happened with the blood suckers.

Something about vampires makes the ladyfolk scream. While it wasn’t at Twilight proportions, the Southern boy vampires made the gals in the audience shriek like Elvis was in the building. As I earlier texted to Josh while it was still happening, the panel kicked off with an announcement that they will be selling a Tru Blood drink. Although creator Alan Ball joked it contained blood, vodka, wine, and Viagra, it’s actually blood orange soda. The bottles are designed to match the prop bottles used in the show. As Josh noted in his write-up of the tidbit, I’m surprised this didn’t already exist.

The panel consisted of the aforementioned Ball, all the stars, and the writer of the books, Charlaine Harris. After sitting through the Twilight panel last year, I’m starting to wonder why hefty middle age women like writing stories about vampires so much. But that’s a question for another day. She announced that she signed a contract to write three more books about Sookie and company through 2014.

The panel kicked off with an “exclusive” trailer for the second half of Season 2 that promises lots of sex, violence, and things that make the women in the audience shriek (cute male vampires.) While it was reported the trailer was created for Comic Con, it’s already hit the net and you can find it here.

While there were tons of questions and answers about how the show operates, there wasn’t much in the way of head’s up for the next season. Ball said that Season 3 would include werewolves, Russell Eddington and the Mississippi Vampires (sounds like a blues band), and Debbie Pelt. When asked if Bubba would make an appearance, he said hiring an Elvis impersonator would feel “cheesy.” The audience was of a different mindset.

My favorite part of the panel was someone asking if there would be a half vampire, half human baby. As the audience howled at the Twilight-ish device, Ball practically sneered when he said “No.” Meeeeee-owwwwww.

When I think Anna Paquin, I think that sweet little girl from The Piano, and of course, who wouldn’t think of Rogue from X-Men? Since I don’t have HBO, I had no idea she is currently on one of their shows, True Blood. It seems she has always had a pretty diverse career, and she isn’t changing that any time soon. Hollywood Reporter says she’s on board with a new CBS Hallmark Film about a “a Polish woman credited with saving the lives of thousands of Jewish children during World War II.”

Irene Sendler died just a few months ago, and when better to honor her with a Hallmark Film, but after she’s already gone. You know, CBS, people like to see these kinds of things from this side of the grave.

Not to imply that Mrs. Sendler was a proud woman – I’m sure she was quite the opposite. But, this world would do much better to tell the people we appreciate, that we appreciate them while they are still here.

Anyway, the film will be titled, The Irene Sandler Story, and it will surely be a tearjerker. It should be airing sometime in April 2009.
