It’s uncomfortable saying anything negative about The Odyssey right now. In an age of mediocre sequels and uninspired live action adaptations, it feels necessary to exclusively put good vibes into the universe about a big budget event film with high art aspirations that’s doing its own thing. Most of us want more movies like it, and because of that desire, it’s more comfortable to just tell people, “The Odyssey is great! Go see it.”

The truth, however, is that The Odyssey is not great. It’s merely good, and the reason why it’s a step below great is because it has a major side character problem. More specifically, it’s filled with dozens of disposable side characters with one-note personalities who are merely there to advance the plot.

It’s Mostly A Problem Of Structure

I know The Odyssey is a long movie, but even for a long movie, a lot of stuff happens. We get the Trojan Horse and the destruction that comes afterwards. We get the bit with the cyclops, the bit with the sirens and the bit with Scylla and Charybids. There’s an extended sequence with Calypso and the Lotus Flowers. There’s the cattle of Helios and the entire fallout from that. There’s the stuff with Circe and Odysseus’ men and then the stuff with Circe and Odysseus himself. There’s the scene where he meets with the soldiers who have died, and the scene where they have to escape the man-eating giants.

And that’s just the stuff involving Odysseus while he’s on his extended adventure. We also get a parallel plot that runs throughout the movie that involves his wife Penelope and his son Telemachus. She has to fend off the suitors who want to marry her and take her place, and Telemachus goes on his own side quest to Sparta to meet with Menelaus and try to figure out if his father is really dead.

Altogether, it’s too much plot for a single movie. It would have been an impossible task to get through all of this in three hours without abridging and trying to move through everything with a brisk momentum.

But That Doesn’t Change The Fact That These Side Characters Are Not Good

Most of The Odyssey’s runtime follows Odysseus’ quest to get home alongside his men. Unfortunately, we spend almost no time with those actual men at all. There are a few scenes of plot-driven banter and minor character development between Matt Damon’s Odysseus and Himesh Patel’s Eurylochus, but there’s nothing particularly memorable or noteworthy about their relationship.

They don’t have a fun rapport or any distinct conversations. And we get almost nothing from anyone else, apart from occasional reaction shots and maybe the odd bit of dialogue here or there. They have no quirks, eccentricities or memorable facets to their personalities. They’re just around to move the plot along.

Unfortunately, that’s a recurring theme with most of the characters in the movie, even the ones that should stand out. Take Charlize Theron’s Calypso. Odysseus spends years eating the Lotus Flowers and living with her on the island, but for the sake of runtime, we’re really just told about it. We don’t see them spending any real time together, and she’s not even given a fully developed personality. Theron has been nominated for three Oscars and has a long track record of doing really weird and memorable things with many of her characters, and yet, she feels so subdued here.

You could go down the list and say the same thing for side character after side character. Zendaya's Athena, Jon Bernthal’s Menelaus, Lupita Nyong’o’s Helen Of Troy and Mia Goth’s maid servant, are all, in theory, key characters played by acclaimed actors who should have a memorable impact on the movie, and instead, they’re just kind of there. Sometimes they deliver really emotional and weighty dialogue, but since we’re not given time to get to know their characters, they just feel like words moving along the plot.

I can’t imagine anyone leaving The Odyssey and saying, ‘you know what side character I really loved?’ Even the ones who are in the movie for a substantial amount of time feel so shallow and without. Robert Pattinson is, I guess, trying to be a little quirky with his portrayal of Antinous, who is the stand-in for the suitors that we see the most, but he’s still ultimately a stock villain from the sleazy handbook.

Samantha Morton’s Circe and John Leguizamo’s Eumaeus are getting a bit of positive buzz, but in my opinion, they still feel semi-neutered or at least like unrealized potential. Morton is in the movie for like fifteen minutes, maybe, and chooses to go a bit more understated than the set buzz had me believe, and almost all of Leguizamo’s scenes are just an old man getting picked on and looking downtrodden (apart from that wild puppy scene).

It’s A Missed Opportunity

Once again, none of this is to say The Odyssey is a bad movie or not worth your time. It’s a good movie that is worth your time. You should go see it because it’s (for the most part) an achievement in what’s possible and has a ton of scenes that work really well. There’s so much about the film that’s worth praising, but none of it has to do with character development, which is mediocre at best for Damon's Odysseus, as well as the other two leads Anne Hathaway (who makes the most of her one-note widow) and Tom Holland (who is decent as the one-note meek son).

I don’t know how Nolan could have possibly developed all these characters in three hours, but ultimately, he picked this story and this format. Maybe it should have been two movies. Maybe it should have been a miniseries. I don’t know what the answer was, but I think we should be honest that the path he picked has obvious limitations.

It sucks that the sirens were a three minute afterthought because there wasn’t time to develop their characters. It sucks that we didn’t get more from Theron or Bernthal or Nyong’o. It sucks that Morton’s Circe was only around for like ninety seconds before she showed her true intentions. All of these characters could have been the centerpiece of entire movies or episodes or at least hour long chunks. Instead, they’re underdeveloped. Instead, they’re part of a side character problem that can’t be overlooked.

Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey has been acclaimed by critics, and it’s not hard to understand why. The filmmaker mostly stays true to Homer’s epic poem in this book-to-screen adaptation and sticks to the themes that make it such a timeless story. While there’s plenty of spectacle to be found, from daring sword fights to a “dank” encounter with a Cyclops, there are intimate moments that are also poignant. And, when lead actor Matt Damon spoke to CinemaBlend, he talked about being shocked by the final scenes.

At the center of the film’s story is the treacherous journey that Odysseus (Damon) and his men make in order to return home to Ithaca after The Trojan War. Odysseus is ultimately the only one to return and, in the film’s third act, he attempts to keep his identity a secret from his wife, Penelope (Anne Hathaway) and son Telemachus (Tom Holland). During his interview with CB, Damon spoke about the irony or “twist” that resulted from his character actually making his way back to the aforementioned Greek island:

In time, a cloaked Odysseus finds himself having a confessional with Penelope, who’s unaware of his true identity. He then goes on to convey the shame he feels over the invasion of Troy, as it resulted in copious casualties. (One of those is even linked to Zendaya’s Athena.) For Damon, that scene was huge, and Hathaway contributed to that sense of awe in a key way:

Penelope and Odysseus’ scene is indeed an emotional gut punch, and both Damon and Hathaway act it out so beautifully. That’s a massive reason why the following scene, which sees Odysseus revealing himself and doing battle with Penelope’s various suitors, hits so hard. And, ultimately, Damon’s character doesn’t die in the film, but he emerges victorious and exiles himself. From there, he and Penelope sail west to honor the former’s fallen comrades and find solace in each other’s company.

This particular moment isn’t just a testament to the actors’ skills, but it’s also a credit to Christopher Nolan’s stellar screenplay. It’s nothing short of amazing that even throughout massive action sequences and surreal, creature-centric scenes, Nolan can still keep character at the forefront of the proceedings. As a whole, the film “walloped” me for that reason but, like Damon, I’ll also long be enamored by that reunion scene.

Among upcoming horror movies on the 2026 movie schedule is a mysterious one called The End Of Oak Street. For much of the year, I’ve been curious about what to expect from the J.J. Abrams-produced thriller, and now I have a much better idea. It’s a dinosaur movie with a twist – they're somehow invading a typical American suburb.

CinemaBlend had the opportunity to experience fourteen minutes of The End Of Oak Street in 4DX and hear from producer J.J. Abrams. It’s about a nuclear family with a dog led by Ewan McGregor and Anne Hathaway (in her fourth of five movies this year alone). They live in a quiet suburb, but one morning there’s a number of dinosaur sightings that rattle them enough to attempt to leave home. The problem is at the end of their street now has a cliff that leads to a prehistoric land. Here’s what Abrams said of how he got involved:

There’s absolutely a mystery afoot in The End Of Oak Street. But, when Abrams mentioned an “Amblin vibe” I was expecting a lot more comparisons to Jurassic Park than to Poltergeist. Between his comments and the footage we watched, I totally see what he’s saying. Check out this new clip:

This new summer flick and the actually cursed 1982 Spielberg movie feel like they come from the same DNA. Why? Because, it’s really more about the family and their dynamics than the creatures they are trying to survive. As Abrams put it:

The End Of Oak Street was written and directed by David Robert Mitchell, who was previously behind It Follows and Under The Silver Lake. In the same conversation, the filmmaker talked about wanting to connect “the average and mundane” with something fantastical. And, he had always wanted to make a dinosaur movie. In a quick interview with him at the event, I had to ask how much of his horror sensibilities to expect in the family-centered film. He said this:

How exciting! The End Of Oak Street may very much be a dinosaur movie, but it’s drawing from much different influences than I expected. And, that only has me more interested in it. The End Of Oak Street comes to theaters on August 14.

There's been a lot of talk about Zendaya having a big year, given she has four movies on the docket. However, I keep forgetting what a big year it is for Anne Hathaway as well, as she has five films out this year. Just looking at her movie schedule has me exhausted. Most recently, she's been promoting The Odyssey (her third film of the year) ahead of two additional releases later this year So how does she feel about all of this work? Well, she shared a great take:

It goes without saying that Hathaway is a talented actress, but the notion of her having five films on the 2026 movie schedule releases feels like a dream. On that note, she knows she’s having a big year, and I love the expressions of gratitude she shares with People:

Hathaway definitely has a lot of moments this year. She started the year with Mother Mary, which hit theaters back in April. The David Lowrey film is a psychological musical drama that's been heralded by critics as a “fascinating chamber piece.” The film has also been praised for the originality it uses to tell a story of celebrity and obsession.

Then in May, fans had their prayers answered when The Devil Wears Prada 2 hit theaters and reunited Hathaway with Meryl Streep and Emily Blunt. Plenty of fans had high expectations, which were met when the actors seamlessly stepped back into their old roles. This also reunited them with the original director, David Frankel, who directed the first film.

Hathaway is now receiving rave reviews for her performance as Penelope in The Odyssey, which gives Christopher Nolan back his box office crown with an epic opening weekend. In the Homer epic brought to life, Hathaway plays Penelope, the wife of Matt Damon’s Odysseus and mother to Tom Holland’s Telemachus. So, all in all, she's been quite busy, so I'm glad a source also said this:

However, Hathaway will soon have more press to do, thanks to The End of Oak Street, which is set for an August 14 release. Somehow, this is the Hathaway film that surprised me the most. I wasn’t expecting the suburban prehistoric story when the trailer dropped, yet such a film makes sense coming from from producer J.J. Abrams, who works in tandem with director David Robert Mitchell. I know I’m not the only one curious with how it’s going to do at the box office.

Finally, Hathaway will end the year similar to how she started, with a psychological thriller. That film, Verity, is directed by Michael Showalter and will be released October 2. In it, Hathaway plays a bedridden author whose husband hires a ghostwriter (Dakota Johnson) to finish her book series. The two can be seen in the Colleen Hoover adaptation in the first trailer.

What amazes me above all the work Anne Hathaway has done, though, is that while promoting it, she's also expecting her third baby with husband Adam Shulman, and it's due sometime this year. Few stars have the kind of work ethic that Hathaway has, and I'm loving that she's continuing to thrive in Hollywood!

SPOILERS ahead for The Odyssey. Go see it before reading ahead!

Zendaya continues her reign over the 2026 movie schedule with the release of Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey. While the actress sadly has a small role in a film that’s nearly three hours long, I think she actually makes the biggest impact. I didn’t necessarily have set expectations for her role as the goddess Athena, but wow, did she steal one scene. That being said, there’s something about her character I’m not solid on.

I Think There’s Two Ways To Interpret Athena In The Odyssey

In Greek mythology, Athena is the goddess of wisdom and war. Throughout The Odyssey, Odysseus sees Athena as a vision as she acts as a confidant and mentor to him. But there’s something interesting the Chris Nolan movie does with her character that really makes her presence in the rest of the movie matter more.

Close to the end of The Odyssey, Odysseus recalls his experience at Troy to his wife in more detail. He says he watched “rage” run rampant that night in a way that betrayed his own morals. As he tries to go home after the war, he finds himself emotionally fighting himself over something. Odysseus details how the use of the Trojan horse was a deceitful way to fight an opponent. And, when his soldiers invaded Troy, he’s disgusted by the way the entire city was slaughtered with little mercy, even for the likes of innocent civilians. That’s when we see the face of Zendaya as a woman Odysseus witnesses getting beheaded by his men. At the same time, a statue of Athena earns the same fate.

Since seeing The Odyssey, the sequence has had me thinking about what the moment means. Was Zendaya’s Athena showing herself to Odysseus as the woman he watched be slaughtered through Odysseus’s visions? Or was Athena disguised as a human who sent herself there in that moment to haunt him for his betrayal of the rules of war? It’s definitely a reveal I wasn’t expecting from the movie, and it's really the scene that sticks the most with me.

But, I Think It’s Left Open-Ended For A Reason?

As a longtime viewer of Christopher Nolan movies, I know that the filmmaker likes an ambiguous ending that can lead to multiple interpretations from viewers. I definitely think the whole thing with Athena falls into that camp. Is it Athena the entire movie, or does the goddess come to Odysseus as a symbol of the humanity he gave up during the Trojan War? Either way, the meaning did its job of being powerful and gut-punching. It’s also something that I want to ask more people about now after they watch it. Honestly, I’m not sure there’s one answer to the question. Maybe the fact that it feels enigmatic plays into this quote from earlier in the film:

• Odysseus: "Why can’t gods speak in ways we understand?"
• Athena: "Who doesn’t understand thunder? Or fire? A child’s smile? A good harvest?"

Early in the film, Odysseus is frustrated by the way the gods communicate. And the scene where Athena is beheaded kind of underlines both their points at the same time. While it’s not going to be talked about nearly as much as the spinning top at the end of Inception, I think it has a similar effect. I think the point is to get viewers talking about the scene because it’s kind of the big thesis moment of Nolan’s The Odyssey.

I felt that Odysseus’s epiphany about the ways in which he deviated from his own moral code was thrilling to watch in theaters. Zendaya’s Athena being part of the scene was very effective… even if I’m not totally sure if I can quite explain Athena's arc in the story completely.

Let’s get this out of the way: I loved The Odyssey. The new Christopher Nolan film, which finally hits the 2026 movie schedule this weekend, isn't perfect, but I thoroughly enjoyed the full three-hour runtime of the epic. I applaud the technical achievements made by Nolan and the crew. However, there was one thing that completely pulled me out of the movie, and that was the Automatic Dialogue Replacement (ADR) in some scenes. I noticed it multiple times in the movie, and I know why it was necessary, but I need to make note of it.

Penelope And Telemachus On The Balcony

I first noticed it early in the movie in a scene between Penelope (Anne Hathaway) and Telemachus (Tom Holland). They are standing on the balcony of their castle, overlooking Ithaca, and Hathaway’s dialogue is clearly overdubbed. It completely distracted me for the whole scene. If you’re not familiar with the term, ADR is when actors overdub their lines in post-production because the on-set microphones don’t pick up the dialogue clearly due to any number of circumstances.

There are probably a couple of things at work in this scene that required the ADR from Hathaway. IMAX cameras are notorious for being loud and can be problematic when trying to pick up sound. Nolan and company mitigated this problem somewhat with a custom-built soundproof box for their cameras when filming the movie, but that could still be part of the issue. The other is a simpler explanation: it was windy on the wall overlooking the island. My guess is that it was a combination of the two, and while ADR is very common in modern filmmaking, it doesn’t usually stand out as much as this did to me. The same was true a few other times in the movie.

Overall, The Sound Quality Surprised Me

I saw The Odyssey in IMAX, so theoretically, I was seeing and hearing the movie in the perfect format. However, I was a bit surprised by how all over the place the sound was in the movie. In addition to the dialogue issues, I was also taken aback by how loud some moments were. I’m a music fan, and I see a lot of concerts, so loud doesn’t usually bother me, but at least in my screening, the sound was louder than I’ve ever experienced in a movie. I’ve seen many movies in the same theater and never heard anything like this.

At one point, my friend sitting next to me actually covered his ears. I can’t say whether this is due to the sound mixing in the movie or due to the theater I was sitting in, but it was LOUD to the point of being uncomfortable at times. Christopher Nolan movies are often controversial, but generally perfect when it comes to sound, so hearing both the ADR issues and the general volume of some of the action sequences wasn’t something I expected.

Let me be clear: as I was in the beginning, I still love the movie, and I think everyone should experience it in an IMAX theater, or at least on the biggest screen they can find. It’s visually stunning, and sound aside, I don’t think it will be nearly the same on even a big TV at home. I hope Nolan goes big like this the next time he makes a movie.

Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey is one of the biggest releases on the 2026 movie calendar, and I can already tell that the movie is going to get review-bombed once the major review sites like Rotten Tomatoes open up. The movie, which hits IMAX screens this weekend, was immediately controversial for all kinds of reasons once the cast list was revealed and the first trailer dropped earlier this year. Well, I’ve seen the movie, and I think the controversies are way overblown.

People Want To Hate This Movie

A couple of weeks ago, when Universal dropped the final trailer for The Odyssey, it was immediately hit with hostility. Internet denizens immediately “ratioed” the YouTube video–meaning downvoting it with the hopes of burying it in the algorithm. As of this writing, the trailer video is sitting on more than 780,000 downvotes (to just 83,000 thumbs up). Some of that might just be a herd mentality to get in on the fun, but there is plenty of evidence out there in comment sections and editorials that people are not happy with the movie Nolan has made. At least, the movie they think Nolan has made.

If you haven’t read much into it, there are a few different buckets of complaints that have people fired up. The first is historically based. This is a group of people who are critical of the armor worn by Odysseus (Matt Damon) and his men being incorrect for the Bronze Age, and the style of ship they are using to travel home from the Trojan War.

There is another bucket of people who are upset that the casting didn’t include more Greek actors, and, more pointedly, people who are upset that actors like Elliot Page and Lupita Nyong’o are in the movie at all. There is a third bucket of critics who don’t like some of the casual nature of the dialogue Nolan has used in his screenplay (and I actually fall into this category).

Let me tell you, all of these are all overblown.

Some Criticisms Are Just Not Right

Even before I saw the movie, I wasn’t all that concerned that these criticisms would affect how much I would enjoy it. After seeing it, I feel the same, with a small caveat. For starters, I think some of the criticisms are totally fair to discuss, like the armor, boats, and the dialogue, which I’ll get into. The casting “controversies” are not fair. This is a myth told by a modern filmmaker for a modern audience; as far as I'm concerned, anyone can play anyone.

The race and ethnicity of the actors is of zero concern for me. Less than zero. It’s no different than Kenneth Branagh casting Denzel Washington in his 1993 Shakespearean masterpiece Much Ado About Nothing. Is it period-accurate casting for Elizabethan England? Of course not, but Washington is one of the best actors ever, so I’m happy to see him in anything, especially doing Shakespeare. The same goes for all of the actors in the stacked cast of The Odyssey.

Others' Criticisms Are Fair In The Right Context

When it comes to the historical nature of some complaints, I have more sympathy. I’m not a historian or a classicist, but I do really appreciate it when movies based on real history take that responsibility seriously. That said, the inaccuracy of the armor worn by the Greeks and the ships they traveled on really didn’t bother me in the slightest. I knew it wasn’t period-correct for what soldiers wore in Bronze Age Greece, but they looked cool, and a movie should look cool!

It looks great, and it honestly is more what I think of as “ancient” armor. Frankly, just look at an example of Bronze Age armor, the kind that would be period appropriate, and tell me it’s not hilarious looking. The armor looks ridiculous to a modern eye, and using it probably would have been way more distracting for most people in the audience (all due respect to the historians in the audience). In that regard, the ships match the armor.

Now, when it comes to the dialogue, well, honestly, I’m kind of with the complainers here. I didn’t like some of the overly casual nature of some of the lines. One thing that has been particularly focused on by some critics is Telemachus (Tom Holland) calling his parents “mom” and “dad.” I didn’t think that was going to bug me, but it did. It really took me out of the movie at times. Again, this is a modern filmmaker making a movie for a modern audience, so I’m not expecting Ancient Greek or anything, but there is a formality to the society in the story, and using words like “mom” and “dad” just felt out of step with that formality.

Nolan’s use of more casual modern language might not be my favorite creative decision here, but it hardly ruins the movie. It didn’t even factor in when I woke up this morning and wrote down my thoughts about the movie after sleeping on it. The Odyssey isn’t a perfect movie, by any means, but it is still one of the best of the year, and certainly one of my favorites. There are some choices I can nitpick, and a couple of places here or there where Nolan’s ambitious decision to film exclusively in IMAX may have actually hurt the overall product, but it’s so grand in scope and vision that those things are easily dismissed for the greater good.

This Is All Overblown

It's worth noting that the actors who seem to have upset a lot of people, namely Page and Nyong’o, and to a lesser extent Travis Scott and Zendaya, don’t really have huge parts. Their collective screentime is minimal compared to Damon, Holland, and Anne Hathaway. More importantly, though, is that they are all legitimately great in their roles. Travis Scott’s role is an addition to the story that I really loved.

While we don't all have to agree with the artistic choices in this book-to-screen adaptation, like the casting, the language, and the costumes, I do really appreciate that Nolan and company are taking a big swing here. So please, don’t listen to the peanut gallery chirping from the sidelines without having actually seen the movie.

The Odyssey has been one of my most anticipated 2026 movies. That being said, I rolled my eyes at the runtime of two hours and 52 minutes after I got my ticket. Christopher Nolan’s latest film isn’t his longest movie – that would be Best Picture winner Oppenheimer – but objectively, that’s too long to sit in a movie theater. That is, unless the movie earns it. Well, did The Odyssey? I have thoughts.

Is The Odyssey’s Long Runtime A Problem?

Don’t get me wrong, some of the best movies I’ve ever seen are around three hours. But, right before I go out and see one, I get kind of stressed out. I usually like to get concessions for a movie like The Odyssey. Ugh, but when the moment comes when I have to use the restroom, it’s a tough call. I then have to make the decision to sit there in pain or try to figure out the right time when I can step away.

I’ll never forget when I went to see Dune: Part One. I ended up leaving to use the facilities when a certain character dies. It kind of messed up my first viewing. And then on the other hand, buying a premium movie ticket for something that ends up being both bad and long just sucks. Or, what if I end up sitting close to someone smelly or with a severe phone addiction?

There’s an easy fix for this. I think long movies need to have intermissions like they used to in the old days. Since that doesn’t seem to be on the table, I wince at long movie runtimes. In the case of The Odyssey, I’m very happy to report that I took no issue with it. Personally, I didn’t look at my watch until two hours into it, and the last hour was awesome. (Sure, it also helps that in-movie bathroom decision gods smiled on me that evening).

Personally, I wouldn’t have cut a single scene. If anything, I would have even sat through more! I’m thinking about going to see it again, and let me tell you, that’s very much a rarity for me to say these days. Critics have also been kind to The Odyssey, with the movie currently holding a 97 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.

What My CinemaBlend Colleagues Thought About The Runtime

As I mentioned before, a three-hour movie only works for me if it earns it. And, there was definitely enough within the pages of Homer’s The Odyssey for Nolan to adapt. Plus, he had to make tweaks to the source material to fit into one movie as is. I was curious about what my co-workers thought about the runtime. Here’s what a few of them said:

• “I love long movies when they are well constructed like The Odyssey. Because of the nature of the source material, the movie flows really well from scene to scene, and I don't think it drags at all.” - Hugh Scott, Syndication Editor
• “The Odyssey kept my attention for the entire 3 hours with its fast-paced storytelling and stunning visuals. If I had my way, it would have been 5 or 6 hours and split into two movies in order to more fully develop the side characters.” - Mack Rawden, Editor-In-Chief
• “I get why it's not two movies so that Nolan could end on a high note, but I thought the runtime was too long. I would definitely have taken two movies.” - Jessica Rawden, Managing Editor
• “I'm always wary of long movies; however, I didn't check my watch once watching The Odyssey. Those three hours flew by, and I was left wishing there was more time to dive even deeper into the story.” - Riley Utley, Weekend Editor

Of course, there’s a range of opinions here regarding the specifics, but overall I think we have a consensus: The Odyssey’s runtime works! If you, too, found yourself unsure about venturing to see it because of its length, I hope this helps reassure you it’s worth it. I know I would have appreciated knowing this before heading into it.

New York is still celebrating the Knicks’ victory, and so are the team's celebrity fans. Case in point, when Anne Hathaway appeared on Late Night with Seth Meyers to promote the release of The Odyssey, the Knicks and their win came up. It was for a very good reason, too, as she addressed the hilarious and serendipitous fact that the Knicks went on quite the run after The Devil Wears Prada 2, which features a cameo from Knicks player Karl-Anthony Towns, came out.

Now, as the Knicks' playoff run was happening, there was constant talk about the fact that they kept winning, and that began right around the time The Devil Wears Prada 2 came out. Notably, Towns has a cameo in that movie, and Anne Hathaway is a massive Knicks fan. So, it’s all connected. So, I see why Seth Meyers asked The Princess Diaries star:

That’s certainly quite the coincidence, and it went viral online as the Knicks kept doing well. Between May 4 (three days after The Devil Wears Prada 2 premiered on the 2026 movie schedule) and June 13 (the day the Knicks won the NBA championship), they only lost one game.

During the playoffs, the team lost three games total (giving them a 16-3 record). However, when they entered the second series of the playoffs against the Philadelphia 76ers, their win streak really got going, because they went undefeated in that series and did it again against the Cleveland Cavaliers. Then they lost Game 3 against the San Antonio Spurs in the finals, creating a 12-1 record since the premiere of Hathaway’s movie.

So, was that because of her film and Karl-Anthony Towns' cameo in it? Hathaway doesn’t think so. She gave credit to her third child, whom she’s currently pregnant with, telling Meyers:

Even though she didn't really give her movie credit, it didn’t stop Hathaway from fangirling about how cool this whole thing was and the fact that she shared the screen with Karl-Anthony Towns. She also brought it back around to the serendipity of the cameo and the Knicks going on to win it all this year, explaining:

The Devil Wears Prada 2 was filmed during the summer of 2025. A big part of the production took place in New York City, which was made abundantly clear through paparazzi photos that spoiled some outfits. That year, the Knicks made it to the conference finals in the playoffs. So, Hathaway spoke to Towns about it while they were filming, and then one year later, the team went all the way, as the actress recalled:

It was very cool, and this whole coincidence is another lovely thing that’s happened to Anne Hathaway this year. Along with her sports teams winning, she’s also pregnant with her third child. Also, by the end of 2026, she will have released five movies in one year -- Mother Mary and The Devil Wears Prada 2 are already out, The Odyssey hits theaters July 17, and The End of Oak Street and Verity come out on August 14 and October 2, respectively. So, she’s doing great, and so are the Knicks.

Is that because Hathaway and Karl-Anthony Towns were in The Devil Wears Prada 2 and it was released during the NBA Finals? I doubt it, and so does the actress. However, it’s fun to think about as the team continues to celebrate their win and the actress continues her epic year.

The Princess Diaries’ Mia Thermopolis may not be an official Disney Princess, but she certainly shares one popular thing many of them sadly have: a dead parent. But I just learned that Mia’s dad is very much alive in The Princess Diaries books. When it came to Meg Cabot's novels being turned into a movie from Walt Disney Pictures, the producers had a big reason for why they felt Mia's dad needed to be dead, and what a revelation!

Why are the characters in Disney movies always without parents? When it came to Cabot’s The Princess Diaries books, she had no intention of following that trend and leaving Mia without a father. However, here's why the storyline changed for the 2001 movie, per Cabot:

If you’re a reader who follows along with all the book-to-screen adaptations, you know that changes between the book and movie are inevitable. A film script just doesn’t have the kind of time to get into as much detail as a novel can, and characters being combined into one role is common. As Cabot also said in a new interview with CBS Mornings:

So, I’m never looking at The Princess Diaries movies the same again whenever I watch them with my Disney+ subscription. While it’s kind of sad that the studio felt they needed to give Mia a darker backstory, they also had a really good reason for it: Julie Andrews. And all they had to say was her name for Cabot to get on board, too.

When Julie Andrews was approached for The Princess Diaries, it became her first Disney film since 1964’s Mary Poppins; it was also a big deal because she only worked on six projects during the '90s. And, four years prior to signing on for The Princess Diaries, Andrews actually had surgery to remove a non-cancerous lesion on her vocal cords that ended up leaving her without the four-octave soprano range she once had.

Ultimately, Walt Disney Pictures made a good decision to give Andrews the bigger role as Queen Clarisse rather than balancing the characters of Mia’s grandma and dad in one movie. But, wow!

Cabot just released a graphic novel version of her classic middle-grade novel as we look forward to the third Princess Diaries movie that's currently in development. Cabot also recently said The Princess Diaries 3 script is “amazing,” and she’s “so excited” for it.

I'm also hyped after hearing that it's going to be shot in Europe and be a “wish fulfillment movie for queens” per the director's most recent update about it in May. Right now, the star of The Princess Diaries movies, Anne Hathaway, is booked and busy on her third press tour of the year, The Odyssey. (She's the lead of five 2026 movies). So, it's unclear when exactly production will begin on The Princess Diaries 3. However, we do know that it's being actively worked on.

I felt like Mia Thermopolis when she learned she was a princess when coming across this story of Mia's dead dad's origins, and I will feel that way again when my burning questions about The Princess Diaries 3 are answered. While we wait, you can grab The Princess Diaries graphic novel on Amazon and see Hathaway in The Odyssey when it hits theaters on July 17.

Christopher Nolan’s next film, The Odyssey, is still a few days away from hitting the 2026 movie schedule, but for months it's been in the firing line for angry people on the internet. I know it’s best to stay out of the comment section, but sometimes I can’t help myself. It doesn’t take long when I do dip my toes in to see some of the major complaints that people have even before seeing the movie. I have to say, none of these are concerns of mine. I remain highly optimistic about this epic that is about to unfold for all of us seeing the movie next week.

The Casting Seems To Be The Focus Of Many Commenters’ Ire

There is no question that Nolan has assembled one heck of a cast. Matt Damon leads the movie as Odysseus. Anne Hathaway is playing his wife, Penelope. Tom Holland is playing Telemachus, his son. Joining them, we’ve got stars like Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron, Samantha Morton (who has apparently killed it with her performance), and Jon Bernthal, along with many others. It’s stacked. There are two or three cast members who have some people upset, and it makes no sense.

Lupita Nyong'o (Helen of Troy), John Leguizamo (Eumaeus), and Elliot Page (Sinon) have drawn the most wrath, and Travis Scott (playing a bard) has also taken some shots. Of course, it’s easy to see why these four have been in the firing line, and frankly, I think it’s all silly (and offensive, of course). The Odyssey is a myth. It’s not history. Historical accuracy should take a backseat to storytelling in this case. Helen of Troy wasn’t a real person, so why does it matter if the actress playing the character doesn’t look Greek or Spartan? Nyong'o certainly fits the description of being beautiful, and she is one of the most talented actresses in the world. That’s by far enough for me.

The Accents, Armor, And Ships Are Also Popular Complaints

The second most common whine is that the armor Odysseus and his men wear is not period-accurate. I’m all for historical accuracy in film; in fact, it’s often a deciding factor in whether I like a movie or not (I’m looking at you, Napoleon), but again, this is a myth. I don’t care that Damon and his cohorts are dressed in armor that doesn’t fit the age. That’s not the point of the story here. Let’s be honest, period-accurate armor looks rather ridiculous, and so making it look “cooler” is just fine by me. The same goes for the ships used by our hero and his men. Yeah, they look more like Viking ships than boats from ancient Greece, but again, this story is a myth, so why care?

Another popular refrain seems to be that all of the actors are using American accents in the movie, even the Brits. I have to say, again, why is this something people are mad about? They aren’t speaking ancient Greek in this modern telling of the myth, either. No one is upset about that, because everyone understands why the movie is in English, so what does it matter which accents are being used? Nolan apparently was looking for consistency, and so this decision makes total sense. This is seriously just complaining to complain.

Luckily for me, none of these creative decisions bother me in the slightest, and I can say that this is by far my most anticipated movie of the summer.

There’s a level of seriousness to many Christopher Nolan movies that you don’t always get from big budget films. That’s not to say there aren’t moments of levity, but there’s something about his direction (and his red scripts) that makes it all feel really grand and important. At least that’s how it comes across to viewers when you’re watching Oppenheimer or The Prestige or The Dark Knight, and apparently, it’s how it comes across a lot of times on the set too.

That was especially true while shooting The Odyssey this time around, both because it’s an over-the-top mythic adventure and because the famed director made the practical decision to shoot all of it with IMAX cameras. He’s worked extensively with the high tech format in the past for action scenes, but on The Odyssey, he decided to shoot the entire movie with IMAX cameras, which means he could only shoot for three minutes before calling cut.

The combination of that pressure to get things right, plus the gravity of the material they were shooting was a lot to deal with, at least for star Anne Hathaway. She recently told CinemaBlend during an interview at The Odyssey junket that it felt like being in a “birthing suite.” Here’s a portion of her quote…

Anne Hathaway plays Penelope in The Odyssey, who is the wife of Matt Damon’s title character Odysseus. She has, by all accounts, quite a few intensely emotional scenes in the movie. She’s also, by all accounts, great in the film, and I’m sure a lot of that has to do with her being able to stay with the emotions of her characters while stopping every three minutes. Because of that, it makes a lot of sense that everyone remained really serious.

That’s not to say there wasn’t the occasional break in character though. Hathaway said some takes definitely got disrupted, but her rule of thumb was she couldn’t break character or interrupt the seriousness unless Christopher Nolan did. If he broke then all bets were off…

It’s hard to call a movie a Best Picture frontrunner in July, but there are high hopes for the movie to put it modestly. It’s at the top of pretty much everyone’s Oscar boards at this point, and the early buzz from the set and the screenings has been overwhelmingly positive. Fans are going to love it, and like everyone involved in the movie, they’ll take it very seriously.

The global press tour for Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey movie is in full battle mode, and can we talk about how much Charlize Theron is slaying every appearance so far? Because Zendaya is among the cast, she’s often the center of attention for every red carpet and photo call, but I’m loving the specific flair Theron is also bringing to the scene.

I’m still not even over Theron turning up at the world premiere in London by pairing a black dress with over-the-top gloves, and she’s now there's already another gorgeous moment in Paris to talk about. Check it out:

Theron plays the role of Calypso, who is a nymph, which is a type of goddess in Greek folklore. In The Odyssey, the character famously keeps Odysseus captive on the island of Ogygia for seven years while he’s trying to return home to his family after the Trojan War. Odysseus actor, Matt Damon, recently complimented Theron on her attitude on set when he worked with her on the big-budget film, calling her someone who “won’t complain, ever” and “seriously tough”.

Clearly, Theron is embracing the sultry and powerful energy of the famed character for the press tour, and I don’t doubt she’s got even more epic things lined up to wear as she continues to promote the movie with the cast.

Theron deserves some flowers for her press looks, but so does the entire star-studded cast of The Odyssey. Zendaya has also been in goddess mode, between wearing a flowy dress and emulating a marble statue with a white corset at the London premiere. The movie features an extensive leading cast of ladies, also including Anne Hathaway as Odysseus’s wife Penelope, Lupita Nyong’o as both Helen of Troy and Clytemnestra and Mia Goth as Melantho.

Since The Odyssey has been screened by a select group of audiences, the movie has been earning a lot of rave first reactions for its massive scale, performances and adaptation of Homer’s ancient Greek work. You can see Theron and the rest of the cast in The Odyssey when it hits theaters next Friday, July 17.

We’ve been waiting for this one, guys. We’re now less than two weeks away from Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey hitting the 2026 movie calendar — the director’s first project since Oppenheimer — and he literally couldn’t have chosen a more epic tale. First reactions are here for the fantasy flick, which comes with a staggering runtime and massive budget. But by these critics’ accounts, Nolan fans should start getting excited.

So what are people saying after catching early screenings of The Odyssey? Critic Perri Nemiroff says Christopher Nolan expertly weaves the story together to make you feel like you’ve experienced a significant portion of the characters’ lives. Her X (Twitter) post continues:

David Ehrlich of IndieWire notes that The Odyssey is “less despairing” than the Academy Award Best Picture winner from 2023, and despite some druthers, it’s a ride worth going on. In Ehrlich’s words:

Anne Hathaway’s massive year continues this month, with The Odyssey being the latest of her many 2026 movie releases on the way. Notably, the historical drama also marks her third time working with Christopher Nolan. But did you know the circumstances of Hathaway's first audition for Nolan? It revolves around a funny misunderstanding the actress had about what role she was auditioning for in The Dark Knight Rises.

Hathaway's hiring ended up being the first time an actress played the role of Catwoman in a live-action Batman movie since Michelle Pfeiffer’s version in 1992. Then, it wasn't until Zoë Kravitz played Selina Kyle in 2022's The Batman alongside Robert Pattinson’s version of the Caped Crusader that there was another big-screen Catwoman after the Devil Wears Prada star.

Hathaway may have been wrong about Harley Quinn at the time, but she was right about Warner Bros. wanting to bring the comic book character to life in a DC film. It was just four years later when Margot Robbie debuted her Harley Quinn in David Ayer's Suicide Squad.

For the time being, the current schedule of upcoming DC movies doesn’t officially include the return of Catwoman or Harley Quinn. However, I hope it won't be too long before these fan-favorite femme fatales come back somehow. For now, we’re excited to see Anne Hathaway reunite with Nolan to play Odysseus’ wife, Penelope, in The Odyssey, coming to theaters on July 17.

After Anne Hathaway successfully brought back one of her most beloved characters through The Devil Wears Prada 2, I’ve been curious about what’s been going on with The Princess Diaries 3. Thankfully, Meg Cabot, the author behind The Princess Diaries books, just shared a really exciting update about one of my most-anticipated upcoming Disney movies.

Anne Hathaway officially announced The Princess Diaries 3 was happening back in 2024 (via Instagram), but the actress and producer has also been busier than ever lately, between leading five films on the 2026 movie schedule and announcing that she's pregnant with her third child. Luckily, the book's author has an update about a return to Genovia, as she said:

Shut up! This makes me so happy to hear. Since The Princess Diaries 3 was announced, it sounds like there’s been a lot of work going on behind the scenes to make the movie the best it can be before cameras start rolling. I appreciate the care going into the movie, and what Meg Cabot told THR has me more excited that the film is finally shaping up.

She also said that she’s seen several versions of the sequel since it's been in development, and it’s now gotten to the point where she’s completely satisfied with where the script is now. In her words:

The Princess Diaries 3 is set to be directed by Adele Lim, who previously helmed the 2023 comedy Joy Ride and co-wrote both Crazy Rich Asians and Raya and the Last Dragon. In the director’s latest update from last month, she said that it's been taking so long because she and the other producers are committed to “make the story right” since the franchise is “so beloved by so many people.”

Lim also hinted that the movie will be a rare wish-fulfillment movie about a queen, a “woman in her full power.” She also said they are planning to shoot the movie in Europe to “really show the audience Genovia in its full glory,” and fans of the first two movies can expect “a lot of fun returns.”

When it comes to who’s returning, aside from Anne Hathaway, I have a lot of questions and hopes. The main person I want to see back is Julie Andrews, who has previously said she’d be “happy” to do another one, but the 90-year-old hasn’t been doing much acting lately aside from voice work.

Considering everything on Anne Hathaway’s plate right now, I don’t see this movie fully taking off until next year, but Meg Cabot’s comments definitely have me anticipating the movie even more now.

Book to screen adaptations are quite commonplace in the film world, with fans of the source material eager to see their favorite stories on the big screen. Author Colleen Hoover's book It Ends With Us was made a movie (streaming with a Netflix subscription), although the project has become synonymous with the legal battle between Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni. Anne Hathaway will star in a film version of her novel Verity, and an alleged insider claims that the Oscar-winner needs so create some space from the It Ends With Us.

Anne Hathaway has a very busy year, and the forthcoming Colleen Hoover adaptation is only one of her new projects. We got our first look at Verity in April, and it should be interesting to see how closely it's associated with Blake Lively's infamous movie. A reported insider spoke to In Touch Weekly about the pressure Hathaway is reportedly under for the movie, saying:

While Lively and Baldoni reached a settlement, It Ends With Us continues to make headlines. And as such, some folks are wondering if Verity will be overshadowed or connected to that infamous movie adaptation. If this anonymous insider is to be believed, that's a major concern behind the scenes. The same individual was also quoted saying:

You may be asking, what are those other landmines? After all, Hathaway is an acclaimed actress who isn't associated with any beefs or BTS drama. Perhaps its all about It Ends With Us, and the fact that she's promoting so many projects in one year. The anonymous insider went on to share some concerns that are following Verity after the last Collen Hoover movie. They claim:

Prior to the It Ends With Us legal saga beginning, Blake Lively faced some backlash regarding the way she was promoting the movie. Namely her encouraging fans to wear florals in theaters, which some folks thought stood in juxtaposition to the movie's serious story about domestic violence. But Anne Hathaway's reputation is pretty sterling, so I'm not sure I share this alleged source's concerns.

Verity will hit theaters on October 2nd as part of the 2026 movie release list. We'll just have to wait and see how Hathaway promotes the movie.

From the outside looking in, Anne Hathaway is thriving. She's going to release three more films on the 2026 movie schedule, and she just announced that she’s pregnant with her third child! However, the good tends to come with a bit of bad, too, as the actress noted while talking about the struggles she's had with pregnancy before.

During an interview with AP News, she opened up about how trying to conceive wasn’t as easy as people may have thought:

But I know the Ella Enchanted actress will be a pro at multitasking work with her pregnancy. After all, she previously stated that she doesn’t do anything “half measure” and is all about commitment. As she’s been a loving mother already to her two sons, I know she’ll continue to find the perfect balance between attending to her growing family and her professional career. One of the best movies of the 2000s, in my humble opinion, has to be The Devil Wears Prada. That's not only because of the comedy flick’s stellar cast but also because of its high emphasis on fashion, which would make anyone rethink their wardrobe. There's so much to take in when it comes to the film's outfits. Interestingly enough, when its lead, Anne Hathaway, first saw the book-to-film adaptation in theaters, spotted one fashion moment that initially didn’t catch her eye amid filming.

Anne Hathaway recently spoke to Elle for a wide-ranging interview about her career. During the chat, the Oscar winner couldn’t help but reflect on the “beetle-green” dress her DWP character, Andy, wore when she went to Paris Fashion Week with her boss, Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep). Hathaway recalled how beautiful the outfit looked when the light hit it. Yet what apparently alluded Hathaway was a more subtle detail involving both her and Streep's characters. Here’s what she discovered:

That’s absolutely true! What made The Devil Wears Prada one of the funniest fish-out-of-water movies is that Andy initially has no true affection for the fashion world or being fashionable herself. However, when she wants to impress Miranda, she gets a total makeover by trading in her loafers for Chanel boots. In time, Andy seems like she’s ready to walk the runway herself.

So it makes a lot of sense that by the time Andy gets to go to Paris Fashion Week with Miranda, she’s subconsciously morphing into her icy Runway editor as evidenced by her sporting a similar look to hers. The film’s costume designer truly showed that fashion truly can speak volumes about a character’s identity and how a person's wardrobe can subtly reflect their personality change.

In The Devil Wears Prada’s long-awaited sequel, which set 20 years later, Andy and Miranda are on better terms. Following the characters' initial boss-assistant tension, the sequel provided one wish fans had — for the two to look at each other as equals.

Andy returns to Runway as its Features Editor in order to help save the publication. Ultimately, Miranda places trust in her former assistant like never before and even grants her permission for her tell-all book about the Runway editor. Not to mention, Andy’s fashionista wardrobe change prevents Miranda prevents Miranda from once again telling her ex-assistant she has “no sense of style.” After watching the dramedy follow-up, it's easy to see why Miranda and Andy are a great movie duo, in that they care about the power of journalism and shaping stories that matter.

It’s amazing when actresses like Anne Hathaway pick up on meaningful details in their own films after watching them back. By noticing Andy and Miranda wore a similar fashion look towards the conclusion of The Devil Wears Prada, she was able to see how much her character was starting to morph into Miranda, compared to being her own person. And, for the viewing public, I'd argue that a subtle, yet cool, detail like this is a testament to the importance of movie rewatches.

It kind of felt like everyone was in The Devil Wears Prada 2. From fashion icons to athletes to musicians and more, the list of cameos is long and legendary. However, one name I didn’t expect to be connected to this project on the 2026 movie schedule was George Clooney. However, he is, in fact, featured in this film (sort of), and now he’s shared his thoughts on his special cameo.

While George Clooney isn't in The Devil Wears Prada 2, his villa on Lake Como can be seen. That’s how he makes a cameo in this legacy sequel, and someone finally asked him about it. He, of course, had a cheeky and fun response, as he told Access Hollywood:

For context about this cameo, a portion of The Devil Wears Prada 2 takes place at Lake Como. Specifically, Andy (Anne Hathaway) and Emily (Emily Blunt) travel there to have business talks about the future of Runway. According to People, you can see Clooney’s villa during the scene where Andy and Emily are riding to their destination in a boat.

Going back to Clooney’s reaction, the interviewer asked him if this all holds special significance. That's because Emily Blunt, one of the stars of The Devil Wears Prada 2, and her and John Krasinski’s love story includes the fact that they got married at Clooney’s house.

The couple tied the knot in 2010, so the home making a cameo in this movie has even more significance. Speaking to that point, his love for that house and his friendship with Krasinski and Blunt, the Ocean’s Eleven star said:

This interview happened before the film came out. However, now I'm thrilled to report that the sequel certainly was fun to see, and both critics and audiences agreed. The Devil Wears Prada 2 got solid reviews, and it was a box office success. Now, I really hope Clooney enjoyed it too. I also hope he was able to spot his house.

Really, just when you thought The Devil Wears Prada 2 couldn’t fit one more celebrity cameo in, it managed to in a very unique way. Before the movie came out, reports about celeb appearances in this film were running rampant. Then, once it officially hit the big screen, we got to see folks like Lady Gaga, Donatella Versace, Karl-Anthony Towns, Naomi Campbell, Jenna Bush Hager, Heidi Klum and so many more make appearances.

Now, we can add George Clooney…or, well, his house, to that list too. And it’s a worthy addition, because his Lake Como villa is very iconic and well-known.

So, with that being said, you can see the star-studded cast of The Devil Wears Prada 2 and the Out of Sight actor’s villa by catching the legacy sequel in theaters now. Then, let’s all start hoping that if The Devil Wears Prada 3 ever happens, we can actually get George Clooney to appear in the film.

After it was revealed that The Devil Wears Prada was getting a sequel, fans had a lot of questions about what was ahead for the characters. Given the franchise's emphasis on fine clothes, it seemed like a given that Andy, Miranda, Emily, and Nigel would be in the New York fashion scene. But, when the first trailer for the anticipated sequel came out, I was left scratching my head regarding one detail about Andy. Fortunately, lead actress Anne Hathaway has provided some clarity on that.

The last time we saw Andy Sachs, she decided she was done with being Miranda Priestly’s abiding assistant at Runway and headed to an interview with Mirror magazine. But, 20 years later, the trailer for DWP2 revealed that Andy was back working at Runway! I thought she decided to move on from fashion journalism and discover more of her niche. When Anne Hathaway spoke with Elle, she recalled how she was “obsessively” wondering about Andy's return to the brand, before reaching a conclusion:

Well, that makes sense. Those familiar with The Devil Wears Prada’s iconic quotes, surely know Miranda gives her iconic speech about the importance of the fashion industry as well as its designers making clothes for the masses. With a magazine like Runway, readers like Andy are shown that they’re already part of the fashion world and how the clothes they wear help shape their identity. So, all in all, Andy understands the importance of the business and is willing to return to her roots if necessary.

The Devil Wears Prada 2 sheds light on Andy having became a serious journalist in New York City, like she always wanted. But, when her entire newsroom is laid off and Runway needs their reputation saved after a controversial puff piece, the head of Runway’s parent company recruits Andy to return to save the magazine.

However, it’s important to know that Andy did not come back in the belittling position of taking orders from Miranda again. With all of the experience Andy acquired throughout her two-decade-long journalism career, she became Runway’s Features Editor. That’s how you climb up the ladder of success!

It was a genuine relief for me to see Andy come back in a leadership position. I’d have been really disappointed if she reverted to being the passive assistant again, which ultimately made her unhappy. And, with her return, she's taken more seriously by the staff, and even her huge wardrobe change exudes the character's greater sense of confidence. Even if Miranda initially acts as if she's forgotten Andy, viewers know even she is starting to see her former assistant in a whole new light.

Yes, it was initially jarring to consider that Andy would return to Runaway after her initial stint, but I applaud Anne Hathaway and the film's creative team for putting so much thought into all. Ultimately, what fans see is Andy transition from a nervous editor’s assistant to a powerhouse features editor. Maybe if Hathaway does decide to take on a third movie, we could see Andy even running Runway if Miranda decided to retire.

As you likely know, The Devil Wears Prada movies are loosely based on books by Lauren Weisberger, who was once an assistant to Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour. So ever since they’ve been out, there’s been question about whether Wintour was offended by Meryl Streep’s Miranda Priestley character. According to Anne Hathaway, the fashion icon has long been a very good sport about the whole thing.

Before The Devil Wears Prada hit theaters in 2006, Meryl Streep recently revealed that the production actually had difficulty landing designer clothes because the industry was scared to be affiliated with a movie that could take shots at the Vogue boss. However, as Hathaway further proved in a recent interview with Popcast, she handled the whole thing commendably. In her words:

This conversation is coming back up because The Devil Wears Prada 2 was just among 2026 movie releases. During the press tour, Meryl Streep and Anna Wintour actually did a joint cover for Vogue, showing that Wintour is A-OK with being associated with the comedy franchise. As Hathaway also added:

Anna Wintour has been complimentary to the film in other comments of hers as well. She said that she “found it highly enjoyable and very funny” when she first saw The Devil Wears Prada and called it a “fair shot.” When it came to the sequel’s release, she said she was excited for it because it “represents how important the world of fashion is”.

It also should be pointed out that while the book may be directly inspired by Wintour, Meryl Streep didn’t aim to embody the Vogue editor-in-chief. The Oscar winner actually based her performance on directors Mike Nichols and Clint Eastwood, since they were both bosses she had that had a specific “command on the set” that stuck with her.

Now, when some of her former assistants have been asked how much Miranda Priestley is like Anna Wintour, one said “Yes, with an asterisk” while another said “there are shades” but it’s “sort of a different thing.” Ultimately, it sounds like there’s a bit of truth to the portrayal and some expected movie dramatization between Anna and Miranda. And the fact that Anna Wintour has not only seen the movie, but become friends with the cast and even endorsed the movies in her own ways, goes to show that the movie didn’t burn any bridges as a result of its existence. We love to see it!

The Devil Wears Prada 2 has quickly become one of the most successful 2026 movie releases in the last couple of weeks. As it has already surpassed $326 million at the worldwide box office following its No. 1 debut at the top of the month, it’s no surprise conversations about a threequel are reportedly being had. But, allegedly, Anne Hathaway is the one pushing the brakes on another movie happening.

Following The Devil Wears Prada 2 being such a win, scooper Rob Shuter is saying that studio executives are already “eager” to get a third movie on the books. However, Anne Hathaway needs some convincing about another sequel. Per one insider:

Per the report, Meryl Streep and Emily Blunt are “enthusiastic” about a third movie, but Hathaway is a lot more hesitant. Apparently, this has to do with the backlash the actress previously dealt with after winning her Oscar for Les Misérables back in 2013, in an era that was known as “Hathahate”. As a second insider shared:

Anne Hathaway is having a massive 2026, considering she’s the star of five movies this year. Two have already come out in the form of Mother Mary and The Devil Wears Prada, 2 and she has three more premiering in the coming months: The Odyssey, The End of Oak Street and Verity. Here’s what another insider told Shuter about Hathaway and The Devil Wears Prada 3:

The cast of The Devil Wears Prada previously told People that they’d be open to a third movie should there be a good script and “the core four” from the franchise (meaning Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci) all say yes.

It’s no surprise that 20th Century Studios would want another sequel after The Devil Wears Prada 2’s hit release. So far, the movie has earned $446 million globally against a reported $100 million production budget – skirting way past the original movie’s total earnings of $326 million worldwide. The Devil Wears Prada 2 is currently the fifth highest-grossing movie of the year!

The movie has also earned acclaim from audiences and critics alike. Some highlights of the movie we’ve been talking about here on CinemaBlend are the savage way Miranda says “That’s all” again, the sweet moment for Stanley Tucci’s Nigel that broke our hearts, and Justin Theroux’s hilarious character Benji.

While Anne Hathaway is apparently unsure about The Devil Wears Prada 3 right now, one of the sources says that “nobody believes” Hathaway will never budge on a sequel, she just wants a reason to come back to Andy Sachs again that “actually matters.” Time will tell if another movie set in the fashion world will come to pass. Until then, The Devil Wears Prada 2 is now playing in theaters.

I went into The Devil Wears Prada 2 as a fan of the original movie, hoping the new 2026 film would measure up to its 2006 predecessor. What I genuinely didn't expect was to find myself brimming with emotion at any point, but it happened, and of all of the people to trigger it... Miranda Priestly? Leave it to Meryl Streep to make that happen.

It's at this point that I offer a spoiler warning, as I can't explain what scene made me well up with emotion without at least a few The Devil Wears Prada 2 spoilers. If you haven't seen the movie yet, I do recommend catching a screening at a theater near you. Based on the opening weekend box office, plenty of people already have, but if you need more takes on the film, see what the critics are saying.

Among the numerous callbacks to the original film is the reminder of how close Nigel (Stanley Tucci) came to partnering with James Holt (Daniel Sunjata) on a major business venture toward the end of The Devil Wears Prada, until Miranda (Meryl Streep) changed up the plan at the last second to secure her own foothold on Runway.

Sadly, when Andy (Anne Hathaway) brought this situation up to Nigel in the sequel, he didn't seem to remember it at first, because it turns out that wasn't the last time Miranda had done something like that. In the case of the James Holt situation, as I interpreted it, it wasn't like Miranda was intentionally trying to hurt her right-hand man – she was the one to put him up for that opportunity, after all – but he was absolutely a casualty of her machinations, and it had to hurt. At the time, Nigel's response to Andy was to say, "When the time is right, she'll pay me back," though he could only hope that was true.

Here we are, twenty years later, and Nigel's clearly experienced more ups and downs in his relationship with Miranda. Ever faithful to her, Nigel had stood off to the side of the Runway leader for years, and it turns out, Miranda was blind to one major aspiration. It also seems clear from what happened with Emily – we learn that Miranda pushed her out of Runway by finding her another job – that she has a tendency to justify some of her manipulative behavior when it affects the people she cares about, as long as they come out of it ok. Of course, the people affected understandably don't always see it that way.

In The Devil Wears Prada 2, after Andy learned that Nigel actually wouldn't mind spending a little time in the spotlight, she relayed that information to Miranda when the perfect opportunity arose. This is near the end of the movie, when Miranda and Andy have to jet off before Miranda's able to deliver the keynote speech in Milan. When Andy suggests that Nigel do it, Miranda is at first dismissive of the idea, certain he wouldn't want to. After Andy suggests otherwise, Miranda seems stricken, and this is where I started to feel really emotional.

Streep's delivery of this line as Miranda looks ahead at where Nigel is standing broke my heart, and I'm still thinking about it. It's like she just realized she's missed something so completely obvious and feels awful about it. It's a redeeming moment for Miranda, for sure, and it only gets better now that she has a way to make it up to him.

For years, she's assumed incorrectly that Nigel was happy to be more of a behind-the-scenes person, and it somehow never occurred to her to consider otherwise. Maybe it's because Nigel genuinely does seem happy to work behind the scenes and literally walk behind Miranda when they're out in public, for the most part, but that doesn't mean he doesn't also want to step into the spotlight once in a while and receive the respect and recognition he's undoubtedly owed. It was a grave misjudgment on Miranda's part not to consider that sooner, and it's all over her face and in her voice when she realizes it.

Thinking back to the way Miranda's actions burned Nigel in the first movie -- one of the sadder notes for the story's ending -- I loved seeing Miranda recognize that she had something so major all wrong, and then seizing the opportunity to make it right and honor her friend. As much as it broke my heart to see her realization, it also filled it with joy to see her admit her mistake and make things right. I really think this might've been my favorite part in the whole movie.

Were Andy’s boyfriend and friends the real villains of The Devil Wears Prada? For years now, there’s been a large camp of people who would say yes. Plus, now that the sequel is out on the 2026 movie schedule, it’s a debate I’ve been thinking about more and more. So, when I had the chance to interview Tracie Thoms, who plays Andy’s best friend Lily, I had to get her take on this very popular discourse.

According to Thoms, this all started “probably about 10 years ago.” She explained during an interview with CinemaBlend that articles about why people don’t like Andy’s boyfriend and friends started circulating, and since then it hasn’t really stopped:

It really did catch on like wildfire, and it's persisted for years. So, with that in mind, the actress from The Devil Wears Prada cast decided to try to watch the movie (which you can do with a Disney+ subscription) with this perspective. Here is the conclusion she came to:

I think she’s right; since the great 2000s movie was released, the world has changed, and people’s perspectives on work and friendship have evolved. So, from that standpoint, I can also see why so many do not love Andy’s friends.

However, Thoms explained that their actions were warranted, and it’s not like Andy was being a good friend either:

The actress went on to say that people have walked up to her and told her they “hated” her in the movie. When she asked “Why,” they’d bring up the fact that she took the purse from Andy. However, Thom's argument is that she really didn’t take the purse; Anne Hathaway's character gave it to her. Plus “Andy was not upholding her end of the friendship,” and she missed Nate's birthday for work.

That led the Rent star to reiterate the point that Andy “did not like that job” at Runway, and it’s important for her to have friends who “call her out sometimes.” To that point, I think she’s right. Hathaway’s character changes for the worse during her time at the magazine, and I can’t say I blame her friends for acting the way they did when she was not being a good friend to them.

This discussion ties right into a conversation Tracie Thoms had with Aline Brosh McKenna, the writer of The Devil Wears Prada and its sequel, as the 9-1-1 actress recalled:

Thoms went on to explain that it truly was the friends’ job to say “‘You’re becoming the person that you said you didn’t like.’” So, does that make them the villain? The answer is complex, and the actress does understand both sides of the argument. However, she also noted that the idea that characters like Lily are bad is “very, very, very strong,” and when she’s asked people to defend that take, “they don’t really have an answer.”

However, over the years, the debate has persisted, and it’s something she’s talked to both Rich Sommer, who played Doug, and Adrian Grenier, who played Nate, about. She brought that up as we were talking about Lily and Andy’s friendship in the sequel, saying:

It must be overwhelming to get this reaction from fans, especially after so many years. However, Thoms has a very clear and level perspective on it all as well as a passionate defense of her character’s actions.

Plus, Lily proves to be a fantastic friend in The Devil Wears Prada 2, as well, which you can see in theaters right now.

For a movie franchise built around fashion, there are obviously a ton of incredible looks in The Devil Wears Prada 2, but not all of them could make the final cut. Scenes come and go in editing all the time, but when the scene takes your favorite outfit with it, as it did for the 2026 movie calendar release’s star Anne Hathaway, it's a tiny couture tragedy. The actress shared how her favorite Prada look was cut, but luckily survived after paparazzi captured it during filming.

While speaking with People at the film’s European premiere in London on April 22, Hathaway revealed that her favorite look from the long-awaited sequel did not survive the final edit. According to her, the missing look was “a Phoebe Philo T-shirt, train thing,” which you can see for yourself below.

Hathaway’s description of the outfit was both deeply specific and somehow not specific at all. Even she seemed to know it was a hard outfit to explain in normal human language. Trying to describe it, she said:

The ensemble includes a white T-shirt with a flowing train, white cropped pants, matching white pointy-toe shoes, black sunglasses, a black shoulder bag and a chunky necklace. In the age of set photo leaks, does any major Devil Wears Prada outfit ever really disappear?

The sequel finds Andy in a much different place than she was in the 2006 original, as The Devil Wears Prada 2 picks up with the character as an award-winning investigative journalist in New York. After her newsroom is abruptly laid off, she ends up back in Miranda Priestly’s orbit at Runway magazine. Anne Hathaway told the outlets that both she and Andy have changed in similar ways since the first film. She shared:

Andy’s clothes in the first movie helped tell the story of a young woman trying to survive in a world she didn’t yet fully understand. In the sequel, the clothes seem to belong to someone who knows exactly who she is, even when the movie edit has other plans.

The attention had to be intense, and according to Thoms, it was, as she explained:

The fans were everywhere, according to the 9-1-1 actress, and it was a lot to take in. However, she made sure to note that by the time she got to her exterior scene in New York City, Hathaway had been dealing with all this for a while, and she was a pro:

While it’s part of filming this 2026 sequel, it’s not exactly a normal filming experience. To that point, Thoms told me those moments took “extra focus” to do, because there was so much going on behind and around the cameras:

When the sequel was filming outside, photographers got images of the actors in costume, meaning there were multiple outfit spoilers (like Miranda’s gorgeous red gown) because of the attention. Along with that, I’d imagine it’s simply hard to film with cameras constantly going off and fans screaming.

Thoms also told me that it was “interesting” to see so many people with their phones out as they tried to capture these BTS moments for themselves:

However, it wasn’t just the spectators who made filming in NYC hard. Remember, the city is also the city, and the production had to deal with things like construction people using a jackhammer. According to the Rent actress, someone on the crew literally “had to negotiate with the construction people” to stop that noise. So, as she said earlier, to film in these locations, it required the cast to bring “an extra layer of focus.”

They were able to bring their A-game amid the chaos, though, and now we have a stellar sequel because of it. So, while I’m bummed the cast had to go through this filming experience, having New York City as the backdrop of The Devil Wears Prada 2 felt vital. Plus, while the attention was a lot, it also proves just how iconic this film franchise is.

I don't really know what I was expecting from this movie, but I couldn't wait to see everyone back together. As soon as the first trailer dropped, I was so curious about Miranda and Andy's relationship 20 years later, and if Miranda actually remembered her.

Riley: I felt both personally victimized and thoroughly amused when Nigel said this. As someone who shops on a budget and is big on saving money where I can, I do shop at stores like TJ Maxx. However, I also found it so funny, and it was such a lovely way to reintroduce the two friends, because it was so very on brand.

Kelly: I don't know that I needed Andy to have a romance in the sequel, but I really liked the dynamic between her and Peter (Patrick Brammall). I also liked the way things sort of went a similar way to how things went with Andy and Nate -- with Andy and Peter having a disagreement focused on how she prioritizes her work -- except, unlike how it went with Nate in the original movie, she and Peter worked it out. I think that shows growth!

Sarah: I don't know. I thought the Peter and Andy storyline were a pretty unnecessary part of the movie – mostly because I thought their romance was one note. I only liked it for the line at the end where Andy says she wants to be imperfect together.

Callback: Bubby's!

The restaurant where Andy meets her friends in The Devil Wears Prada 2 is Bubby's, and it's the place where Nate worked in the original movie.

Hang On, Was The Devil Wears Prada 2 Kind Of A Bummer?

Riley: As someone who has worked in the journalism industry for many years, I’m well aware of the ups and downs it's been through, and the bleak state it’s in at the moment. So, I was surprised when The Devil Wears Prada 2 didn’t avoid that situation at all. In fact, it ran right toward it. So, yes, it was a bummer to watch Miranda and Andy struggle with the business challenges that the media industry is literally facing. However, it by no means ruined the movie. In fact, it helped make it better because it really gave viewers something to ponder.

Kelly: I totally agree. I was curious to see if the movie would address the massive changes to journalism and magazines in the time between 2006 and now. It definitely went the direct route!

Sarah: This was an ice cold moment, and has stuck with me ever since seeing The Devil Wears Prada 2. Emily and Miranda have always had a contentious relationship, and I it felt like this line stung like a knife to the back for Emily.

Was Miranda Too Nice In The Devil Wears Prada 2?

Sarah: This is a topic a lot of people are already talking about. I know I personally really loved seeing a new, more layered and messy side of Miranda this time around. I think it actually made sense because Andy has a much higher position, so of course she'd see more to Miranda. Plus, there's something very realistic and grounded about this being a part of her life where she's not quite at the height in her career she used to be.

Riley: I was personally taken aback by how not-mean Miranda was in this movie. She was playing defense and trying to appease the powers above her, and that meant she had to play nice. However, knowing how difficult things were at Runway, I get why she was acting that way. Although I have to admit, it was very odd seeing Meryl Streep’s character acting nicer and more accommodating than she was in the first movie.

Favorite Quote: "Charlie, what did we say about laughing?" Amari

I’m actually obsessed with Simone Ashley, and I loved seeing her as the nononsense assistant in this movie. She absolutely killed it. However, nothing was funnier than seeing her say this line to Caleb Heron's Charlie. Plus, this whole interaction was giving me flashbacks to Emily and Andy's early days at Runway, which made me feel a delightful sense of nostalgia.

The Emily Twist

Kelly: For a minute, it seemed like Emily and Andy were actually on the same page and working together to save Runway. Nope. I wasn't prepared to discover there was some unresolved conflict between Emily and Miranda, but it definitely made for an entertaining twist.

Sarah: Yeah, I did not see this coming at all, but I thought it was delicious once it did happen, because of course it would. The twist really highlighted the themes of how a cutthroat industry like fashion and journalism can mean you can't trust anyone. But, ultimately I loved how things ended with the pair going to lunch together and Emily disclosing that she wanted to be "friends" with Andy back in the day.

Favorite Quote: "I can't believe there's someone named candle!" - Benji

Kelly: Was it me or did Justin Theroux's character get more ridiculous with each scene he was in? Benji mishearing the name Kendall as "candle" caught me off guard. That ridiculousness was just a prelude to his loud conversation about wanting to explore the sun on a ship called Icarus. Honestly.

Who Was The MVP Of The Devil Wears Prada 2? And Why Was It Nigel

Riley: From the jump, Stanley Tucci’s performance was my favorite part of this movie. I mean, his line deliveries were next level AND his outfits were obviously amazing. However, he ended up being the MVP because he got Andy, his “favorite girl,” her job at Runway. Talk about sweet! Along with that, he also finally got what he deserved at Runway, as Miranda realized his worth and asked him to give that big speech. Overall, this movie proved that Nigel is not just an invaluable part of Runway, he’s also one of the main people keeping it alive. So, yeah, Nigel was no doubt the MVP of The Devil Wears Prada 2.

Sarah: So true! This movie definitely elevated Nigel for me even more than the first time around.

Kelly: And since we're talking about Nigel, I loved that Andy helped Miranda see that her right-hand-man wouldn't mind a moment in the spotlight every once in a while, especially right when there was an opportunity for her to give it to him. It was such a touching moment seeing Miranda insist he give the speech. It let Nigel know he's appreciated. ❤️

Callback: Miranda and Andy Having A Heart-To-Heart In A Car

Sarah: This piece of nostalgia from The Devil Wears Prada 2 totally worked on me. There's something so bittersweet about both times that Miranda and Andy have a rarely deep conversation together. This time it was about Miranda sharing with Andy that she wants her to write her book if she chooses to.

So…Is Andy Gonna Write That Book?

Riley: Even though Miranda was fine with the book being written, I wasn’t sure if Andy would really want to. However, upon further reflection, I do think Anne Hathaway’s character will write this book. She has Miranda’s blessing, and I do think she can do it in a way that holds nothing back, but also isn’t a project that totally ruins her boss.

Kelly: I kind of took it as a bit more open-ended. I believe Miranda meant it when she said Andy could write the book. I loved the way she said "I love working." I also appreciated how she talked about her career coming at a price, and maybe people should know that. At the same time, I'm not sure if I think Andy's going to jump on that book deal right away, but maybe sometime down the line.

Favorite Callback: Andy's Cerulean Sweater

I loved that the movie ended with Andy walking through the offices wearing a cerulean sweater. And I especially loved the twist they put on her outfit. The cut-up sweater with the perfectly fit jeans was perfection. In fact, it looked like a fit that even Miranda approved of. Ultimately, it was a meaningful callback that felt like the cherry on top of a movie that very meaningfully tied itself back to the original.

What Did We Think About All The Cameos?

Sarah: I was underwhelmed with Lucy Liu’s role but love, love, loved the Gaga moment.

Kelly: I freaking loved Miranda and Gaga being rivals, like I need that story told. The scene with Emily and Donatella Versace was great too.

Riley: I was shocked and delighted to see the host of the chicken shop dating show, Amelia Dimoldenberg.

Considering the number of iconic lines The Devil Wears Prada has, I was waiting with bated breath to see how they’d call back to them in the sequel that just premiered on the 2026 movie schedule. So, you can imagine the surprise I felt when a lot of the references and easter eggs were very tasteful and fairly subtle. However, there was a callback to one of the original’s most iconic lines that left my jaw on the floor because of how savage it was.

I’m, of course, talking about the singular use of Miranda’s “That’s all.” So, let’s break down the line’s history and why it packed such an intense punch in the well-reviewed Devil Wears Prada 2.

The Iconic Devil Wears Prada Line I’m Talking About

So, I don’t know about you, but there’s one quote in The Devil Wears Prada that I was desperate to see in the sequel, it’s Miranda Priestly's iconic line:

Two quietly said words have never carried more disdain. And quite literally every time I’ve watched this great movie from the 2000s – whether it be on DVD or with a Disney+ subscription – they leave me feeling severe anxiety on behalf of Andy. However, no delivery of “That’s all” hit me harder than how it’s used in The Devil Wears Prada 2.

How ‘That’s All’ Was Used In The Most Brutal Way In The Devil Wears Prada 2

For a good portion of The Devil Wears Prada 2, I was waiting for Miranda to say “That’s all” in that calm and quiet voice that’s apparently inspired by Clint Eastwood. However, it wasn’t happening, and she was playing defense to save Runway for most of the movie. Unlike in the first film, she’s not a titan of business; she’s a boss who is simply trying to keep her publication alive and stay up with the rapidly changing times. So, I just figured the old Miranda wasn’t fully around this time.

And then Emily tried to take Runway by having her boyfriend Benji buy it, and the claws came out. Here’s what Miranda said about Emily trying to steal Runway, not save it, like Andy thought she was:

Then, as Emily tried to turn down this claim, Miranda said that she felt like Emily Blunt's character knew she was right, and after saying all that, Meryl Streep's editor-in-chief ended the conversation with:

Ouch! That hurt! It was also especially lethal because it's the only time "That's all" is said in the sequel.

However, I do think Emily needed a bit of a reality check. She really went to great lengths to try to take Runway, but thankfully, her plan was thwarted by Andy and her passion for journalism, and Miranda and her ruthless quest to keep her job. And I have to say, saving the “That’s all” for this moment made it both impactful and absolutely savage. Seriously, my jaw was on the floor over this.

Not only was it a stern reality check for Emily, but it was also a brutal (complimentary) reminder that ultimately, Miranda Priestly is the boss and you DO NOT mess with her.

The 2026 movie schedule features so many Anne Hathaway films, we might as well call it “The Year of Hathaway.” The Oscar winner has a staggering five movies she’s in – none of which are in a supporting capacity - and it sounds like she is enjoying every ounce of it while she can. It’s been 20 years since Andy Sachs first walked into the offices of Runway Magazine to meet the devil herself, Miranda Priestly in The Devil Wears Prada. These characters have stood the test of time — providing us two decades’ worth of deliciously savage quotes — and now they’re reunited in the sequel The Devil Wears Prada 2. Critics have seen the movie ahead of its release on the 2026 movie calendar, so does this flick fit like a designer glove, or is it as groundbreaking as florals in spring?

The Runway gang is back, though things have certainly changed for the characters played by Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci. Taylor Gates of Collider laughed a lot and had a great time with The Devil Wears Prada 2, though it’s not as sharp or clever as its predecessor. Gates rates it 8 out of 10, saying Blunt is a scene-stealer who’s full of “savage surprises.” The critic continues:

Michael Peyton of IGN gives it a “Good” 7 out of 10, noting how easily the cast slips back into these iconic characters, and while it’s an enjoyable ride, Peyton says it’s all very reminiscent of the first film. From the music to the editing, it all feels familiar — from frenetic Andy montages to a closet full of meme-worthy one-liners. The critic writes:

Many critics seem to have enjoyed the movie, giving it high marks, but like the above review, Brian Truitt of USA TODAY can’t seem to get past how it mostly sticks with what worked in 2006. Still, Truitt gives the sequel —one of many sequels coming in 2026 — 3 out of 4 stars, citing plenty of easter eggs, a clear-eyed portrayal of today’s media landscape, fun cameos and colorful clothing. However, he says:

Guy Lodge of Variety agrees there’s a lot of fun to be had in seeing Meryl Streep’s return as Miranda Priestly, but it’s hard to see this follow-up having a similar cultural impact to what The Devil Wears Prada did. In Lodge’s words:

Kate Erbland of IndieWire gives the movie a C+, saying that, like a bad fashion piece, the shape is there, but “the details are dreadful.” She can’t argue with the appeal of seeing Anne Hathaway and Meryl Streep play off of each other again, though, and if you loved the first film, this is definitely worth the watch. That’s mostly because The Devil Wears Prada 2 basically apes its predecessor beat for beat, just without the original spunk. Erbland writes:

The critics seem to agree that the cast shows up and satisfies in how they slip back into their characters from 2006. However, it sounds like the sequel doesn’t offer up much by way of original story, outside of some commentary on the state of journalism.

Boy, do I love a book I just can't put a book down. As many books as I enjoy, I wouldn't call them all page-turners. While some books are enjoyable to read at whatever pace I feel like reading them, there are others where I can't wait to get back to them every time I'm forced to put them down due to some adult responsibility getting in the way. That's what happened with Yesteryear. Caro Claire Burke's debut novel had me on the edge of my seat in total "what on earth is going on here" mode from beginning to end. What's more, not only am I relieved to know that this story has been optioned for a book-to-screen adaptation already, but also that they've already found the perfect lead -- Anne Hathaway.

I won't spoil anything major for you here about Yesteryear. Part of the greatness of the book is how it unfolds, and I wouldn't want to take that from anyone who's here because they're either planning to read the book, currently reading it, or curious about it. This is a spoiler-safe zone in terms of the plot. But I will start with an explanation of what it's about.

Yesteryear's Story Is A Wild Ride

The story follows Natalie, a wife, mother and social media influencer whose brand is all about being a traditional wife, raising her kids on her family's farm. While she's amassed quite a following by displaying her family's homestead lifestyle, the twist comes when Natalie wakes up to find herself in the actual 1800s, with no clue what's going on or how she got there. The story bounces between past and present (well, Natalie's present, anyway) as we learn more details about Natalie's backstory, how she made a name for herself as an influencer, and what goes into producing the content showcasing an idyllic ranch-set life.

As fascinating as it is to understand who this woman is, every time we shift to Natalie's present-day situation, we're left asking, "What exactly is going on here?!" How did Natalie end up in the past? Is she even really in the past? Is this really happening? These are all questions she's asking herself, and we're right there with her in this mystery.

Anne Hathaway As Natalie Is Perfection

Yesteryear only hit shelves in early April 2026, so it might seem fast that the novel is already lined up for a feature adaptation. "Already" is an understatement, as plans to bring this story to the screen have been in the works for years. In 2024, Deadline reported that there were bids from four different studios for the then-unpublished book. Just over a year later, in July 2025, Deadline reported that Amazon MGM Studios won the auction and planned to bring the book to the screen with Anne Hathaway on board to star and produce. Hannah Friedman is penning the screenplay.

I really believe that Anne Hathaway is casting-perfection here, as there are layers to this character that unfold throughout the story, and Hathaway's exactly the kind of actor who can tackle that kind of complexity in a captivating way. To put it mildly and without spoilers, Natalie isn't the most lovable character, but understanding what makes her tick is a big part of why I couldn't put this book down. Hathaway playing the role is a no-brainer if they're aiming to bring the same kind of interest and tension to the screen, while the mystery of Natalie's situation unfolds.

I haven't seen any updates on the status of the adaptation beyond those Deadline reports, so it's highly unlikely we'll see this one on the 2026 movie schedule. Anne Hathaway is an extremely busy woman in the industry (especially this year!), but hopefully, with Yesteryear now on bookshelves, there will be some update soon on the status of the film. In the meantime, we do have Hathaway starring in the Verity adaptation to look forward to this year, not to mention her role in Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey, among her numerous big-screen projects.

Of the numerous book-to-screen adaptations arriving in theaters this year, the Verity movie from Michael Showalter has to be one of the most anticipated. The popular (to put it mildly) psychological thriller novel written by Colleen Hoover is a real page-turner, and given this first glimpse of the film (finally!), which shows Dakota Johnson and Anne Hathaway in the lead roles, it looks like we're about to be on the edge of our seats for this one when it arrives on the 2026 movie schedule later this year. .

What Verity Is About

Verity centers on a writer named Lowen (Dakota Johnson), who's hired to ghostwrite Verity Crawford's book because she's unwell. Lowen isn't just helping out with the writing, she's living with Verity (Anne Hathaway), her husband Jeremy (Josh Hartnett) and their child while she sorts through the author's notes. During the process, Lowen comes across a manuscript of Verity's that may be autobiographical and contains some very dark, unsettling content, which leads her to question what's true about these people.

The Teaser Trailer Doesn't Hold Back

As you can see from the teaser trailer, things heat up in this story as Lowen gets to know the people she's living with and working for. The mystery surrounding the manuscript is just part of the drama that unfolds in this mysterious and thrilling tale.

The teaser gives us a glimpse of a spicy moment between Lowen and Jeremy, which turns into a scary, bloody moment between Lowen and Verity, and that's really just the start of the chaos. Darkness ahead... indeed!

The Latest Colleen Hoover Adaptation

Verity is the next in line among the numerous Colleen Hoover adaptations we've seen in recent years. It follows It Ends With Us, Regretting You and, most recently, Reminders of Him, all of which are based on stand alone novels from the popular author. While Verity is also a stand-alone novel, it also stands out among these other titles in terms of the tone. While there is romance involved in the story, Verity is very much a psychological thriller. (I spent every page of the book needing to know what was true and what wasn't, and how it was all going to end. Based on the teaser, I think we're in for a similar experience with the film.)

If we're looking at recent book adaptations, beyond appealing to those who loved Hoover's book, I have a feeling this one will appeal to those who liked the adaptation of Freida McFadden's The Housemaid.

We still have months to go before Verity hits theaters. The film arrives on October 2, 2026. That gives you plenty of time to read the book, if you haven't already!

If you were following the press tour for The Dark Knight Rises back in 2012, you probably remember how much of the conversation around Anne Hathaway centered on her transformation into Catwoman. Unfortunately, the questions tended to drift in one very specific direction: her weight. In one now-infamous moment, an interviewer flat-out asked, “How much weight did you lose?” It clearly caught her off guard, even if she handled it like a pro. Now, years later, she’s opening up about why that question bothered her, and why she’d approach it differently today.

In a clip shared by People, Hathaway revisited that moment, explaining that her preparation for the role had far more to do with getting physically ready for the demands of the part than with losing weight. She said:

And Hathaway’s sky-high heels and minidress that she wore in the lead up to the NYC premiere mixed with the stunning red Louis Vuitton gown she wore to the movie's big event showed how brilliantly she could command the spotlight in the city that never sleeps.

But the goth attraction the Iris Van Herpen attire brought out for Mother Mary is a daring statement, and it's become one of my favorite looks Hathaway has rocked recently.

Now, if you’re going to help promote a movie about the New York fashion scene, Anne Hathaway is on point with her Devil Wears Prada fits, wearing red carpet looks that Miranda Priestly would approve. However, the Ella Enchanted actress’s dare-to-be-bare Mother Mary London dress sends off a vibe that’s fearless and unapologetically bold. As the ensemble breaks the rules with its skeletal lining design, I would hope that if TDWP2’s fictional Runway magazine were real, it would highlight how stunning and creative Hathaway's gothic gown is.

As much as I love Anne Hathaway’s chic couture at The Devil Wears Prada 2 premieres, her gothic Mother Mary dress stole the show for me. With its sheer web-like fabric presenting otherworldly vibes, this is a gown that truly can’t go unnoticed…and that I'd still like hanging in my closet.

Anne Hathaway has been booked and busy lately. The Dark Knight Rises actress has five upcoming films on the 2026 movie schedule, most notably Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, the Colleen Hoover adaptation Verity, and the highly anticipated The Devil Wears Prada 2. It’s been 20 years since the original 2000s movie came out, and it’s not the only early Hathaway film getting this treatment. A third installment to the Princess Diaries series was announced, and the Ocean’s 8 actress got real about this chapter of her career being like her “Eras Tour,” but I didn’t see her “Blank Space" comment coming.

The Devil Wears Prada 2, which hits theaters Friday, May 1, comes at a time when 2000s nostalgia is at an all-time high, with recent reboots such as Freakier Friday and the upcoming Legally Blonde prequel. The Devil Wears Prada is one of the best movies of the 2000s, so it doesn’t surprise me that it’s next in line. Andy Sachs is also arguably one of Anne Hathaway's most recognizable characters, and Joe Coscarelli and Jon Caramanica of the New York Times recently asked the Get Smart actress if she had any reservations returning to her most popular works, to which she said:

That immediately struck a chord in Coscarelli and Caramanica, who called these long-awaited franchise sequels Hathaway’s own Eras Tour, referencing, of course, Taylor Swift's blockbuster stadium tour in which she performed the biggest hits from her (then) 11 albums. Originally coined by Swift, the term “Eras Tour” really has taken on a life of its own in pop culture, used to describe any victory lap through an artist's most well-known work.

The comparison to the “Fortnight” singer is quite ironic, given Hathaway’s character in A24’s thriller Mother Mary, which premiered last week, was partially inspired by Swift's tours. Along with that movie, the 43-year-old actress has spent the last few years working in the alternative indie scene, on projects such as Eileen and Mother’s Instinct.

It’s a section of film Hathaway says she was prepared to exist in during this stretch of her career. So when the calls came to return to memory lane, the Interstellar actress says she was taken by surprise, but that it’s given her perspective on her nearly three decades in Hollywood:

No arguments here. Everything from the 2000s runway fashion to the insanely quotable lines is iconic, making me wonder why it took 20 years for a sequel. Therefore, there’s a lot of hype surrounding The Devil Wears Prada 2, something Coscarelli acknowledges within his Taylor Swift metaphor, by saying it’s really hard to write “Anti-Hero.”

As a Swiftie, I can confirm this NYT journalist knows his stuff. “Anti-Hero” was Swift's single off her 2022 album Midnights. It was the Grammy winner’s 10th studio album, and her big return to pop after her expedition into the indie-folk genre of Folklore and Evermore. With her past pop catalog including 2016’s Album of the Year 1989 and fan-favorite Reputation, there were a lot of expectations with “Anti-Hero,” not unlike the expectations surrounding The Devil Wears Prada 2.

However, Hathaway totally flipped the script, responding with a surprising 1989 reference:

That’s real talk right there. You think it’s hard writing the follow-up to a great hit? Try writing a big hit in the first place! Once you’ve got a beloved fan base, it’s much easier to ride that nostalgia train. To Hathaway’s point, the challenge is getting people on board in the first place.

That being said, if the Devil Wears Prada 2 is “Blank Space” (and I totally agree with that), then the Princess Diaries is clearly “You Belong With Me,” making the Princess Diaries 3 “But Daddy I Love Him” off of TTPD. If you are wondering why The Princess Diaries isn’t “Love Story,” it’s because that’s reserved for Ella Enchanted, and I’m holding out hope it's the next movie to get the Anne Hathaway Eras Tour treatment.

Well, if there’s one thing I know about fashion, it’s that it’s constantly evolving. What’s trending could be out in the blink of an eye. That point was also made when Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt were asked to review the looks they wore to The Devil Wears Prada premiere in 2006. Let’s just say, as The Devil Wears Prada 2 stars promoted the sequel's release on the 2026 movie schedule, they also shared takes on their old outfits that are as harsh as Miranda Priestly.

Now, before we dive into the takes, you need to see the looks in question. Let’s remember, The Devil Wears Prada, which you can stream with a Hulu subscription, came out in 2006, and if I had to describe these outfits, I’d say they are giving early 2000s to the max. Take a look:

Listen, I’m here for Hathaway’s red dress, it’s super fitting considering the red heels that are synonymous with this movie. However, she has some notes about it, as she told Hits Radio:

Constructive criticism is always a good thing; however, I was surprised by how blunt the Princess Diaries star was with her notes. I think Miranda Priestly would be proud of her take.

Meanwhile, Emily Blunt’s observations about her purple mini dress had her sharing words that are just as savage as some of The Devil Wears Prada’s best lines:

Blunt was talking about her look in a way that reminded me of her character Emily telling Andy that she looked like she had a “hideous skirt convention to go to.” I think she’s being far too harsh on herself, too. I mean, plenty of celebs have thrown it back to the early 2000s with their looks in recent years, and I do think the Oppenheimer star’s purple dress is lovely.

However, it’s not lost on me that Blunt went way bigger for the premiere of The Devil Wears Prada 2, so I can see why she had this kind of reaction to her OG look. At the New York City premiere for the highly anticipated sequel, she rocked a massive Schiaparelli gown that was very grand and glamorous. Tonally, it was very different than the look she rocked to the 2006 premiere.

You can see how fashion has evolved through these reactions. However, it’s also clear in the clothes that are featured in both movies. Andy’s wardrobe has evolved from The Devil Wears Prada to the sequel, and it’s obvious that the other characters’ styles have too. So, yes, it makes sense that the actress’s opinions on their original premiere looks have evolved.

The first stop on Anne Hathaway’s insane run of 2026 movies is Mother Mary. The A24 horror film and pop star extravaganza had the Oscar winner looking to the likes of Taylor Swift’s Reputation tour and Beyoncé’s Renaissance to embody a fictional pop queen. CinemaBlend spoke to writer/director David Lowery about watching the actress transform into Mother Mary.

Mother Mary follows a seasoned music sensation years after leaving the spotlight due to a very public incident. She decides to reach out to her estranged fashion designer Sam (Michaela Coel) to make her the perfect outfit to step back on the stage again. Here’s what David Lowery told us about the time on set where he realized she had become Mother Mary:

The movie is primarily (and perhaps surprisingly) an intimate two-hander for the first half that follows Mother Mary and Sam back in the same room after many years apart. Since the movie was shot in order for the most part – with the sequences where Mother Mary is on stage in front of fans later on – Lowery didn’t get to see Anne Hathaway in full-on pop star garb right away on set. But she she brought it out rather quickly by unexpectedly doing a dramatic snap to a dialogue scene with Coel. As Lowery also said this about Hathaway’s pop star transformation:

When CinemaBlend attended a screening of Mother Mary at Vidiots in Los Angeles, David Lowery also talked about how meticulous Anne Hathaway was in the recording booth recording the soundtrack to her pop star character along with going to “bootcamp” and even talking to Charli XCX about her experiences as a pop star. Mother Mary has been earning smash reviews, with people calling it a “visually fascinating chamber piece”, having an “intoxicating air that draws you in” and a “dive-off for the ages”. Hathaway clearly embodied this role with a lot of commitment, and it shows in the final, enrapturing product.

It’s also just fun. Bayer gives it an 8 out of 10, writing:

Brian Tallerico of RogerEbert rates the movie 3 stars out of 4, saying A24 and David Lowery are taking a big swing with this one, telling a story of obsession and celebrity in a way that hasn’t been done before. Tallerico writes in his Mother Mary review:

David Fear of Rolling Stone calls the film “the mother of all modern-pop superstar nightmares,” writing that David Lowery takes the accessible topic of pop superstardom and turns it into something that could never feel mainstream. This tale of Mary and Sam is “a fucking head trip,” the critic says, writing:

Jake Coyle of the AP rates Mother Mary 2.5 stars out of 4, calling it a “fitfully spellbinding chamber drama.” As the plot progresses, the story gets increasingly surreal, sliding into body horror and simultaneously becoming more visually captivating and more tiresome. Coyle continues:

It definitely sounds like audiences are in for a wild ride with this one, and critics seem overall pleased with A24’s newest offering, scoring it at 72% on Rotten Tomatoes. Mother Mary is in select theaters now and will see its wide release Friday, April 24.

Celebrity fashion is always a fun thing to keep an eye on when actors are promoting a movie — and it’s especially important when said movie is centered around the world of high fashion. Anne Hathaway seemed to understand the assignment as she returned to New York City ahead of the premiere of The Devil Wears Prada 2, sporting a vintage minidress and sky-high platform heels.

Anne Hathaway was photographed walking the streets of New York on Wednesday, less than a week before the April 20 New York premiere of The Devil Wears Prada 2 (which hits the 2026 movie calendar on Friday, May 1). The actress paired a black Versace minidress from the late designer’s Fall/Winter 1991 collection, per Harper’s Bazaar, and don’t miss those Versace Aevitas platforms either!

The dress may have been short, but the sleeves were long, with the wool fabric covering her shoulders and forming a tasteful sweetheart neckline. Large gold buttons decorated the front of the cocktail dress, while black velvet lined the bust, sleeves and hems. Embroidered flaps at Anne Hathaway’s hips gave the impression of pockets.

The Academy Award winner wore black tights under the dress, finishing the outfit with the black Aevitas that featured a 2.25-inch platform and 6.75-inch heel. Those shoes do not seem conducive to walking around the streets of New York, and a less coordinated person might have feared another viral fall coming.

If there’s any press tour on the 2026 movie schedule where we’d expect to see high fashion, it’s The Devil Wears Prada 2. And, we just got our first look from it when Anne Hathaway and Meryl Streep started things off in Mexico City. Check out their fits:

These two look incredible. The real looker here, though, is unquestionably those thigh-high boots Anne Hathaway has on, paired with a sparkly minidress. Per Harper’s Bazaar, the Princess Diaries star is wearing a Stella McCartney ensemble that recently debuted on the runway at the brand’s Fall/Winter 2026 ready-to-wear collection. As someone who recently rewatched the original Devil Wears Prada, it wasn’t hard to clock how the look is actually an awesome nod to Andy Sachs.

How I Think Her Look References The Original Movie

When Andy Sachs first starts at Runway in The Devil Wears Prada, she doesn’t care too much about fashion, but not fitting in the office starts to get to her over time. So, she ends up going to Stanley Tucci’s Nigel for styling help. Then, the first outfit she wears that marks her transition into being a fashionista includes thigh-high boots. Take a look:

The best part of the outfit reveal is when a funny exchange happens between Andy and the other assistants when she walks into the office. Here’s the exchange:

• Emily: "Are you wearing the cha-"
• Andy: "The Chanel boots? Yeah, I am."
• Serena: "You look good... What? She does?"
• Emily: "Oh, shut up, Serena."

This reference to this scene is actually perfect because it was the moment when Andy Sachs really started to own her position and fit in rather than let herself get pushed around. I love that it feels like it takes inspiration from the original movie, but she’s not fully cosplaying as her character from 2006. Honestly, this feels like a note out of Zendaya’s method dressing playbook that’s become rather common on press tours. It’s definitely a whole new look that we’re seeing in Mexico City and much more Anne Hathaway than Andy Sachs.

After this appearance, we expect Hathaway, Streep and the rest of the star-studded cast to deliver many more chic red carpet moments throughout April ahead of the movie’s release on May 1. That pin-striped button-down vest with its matching high-waist trousers was the perfect blend of professionalism and stylish. The first DWP2 trailer also showed Andy sporting dark shades someone would think she plucked from Miranda Priestly’s closet. Hathaway spoke more on the podcast about how the film rationalizes Andy's new sense of style, and it makes a lot of sense:

I love that! It sounds like Andy’s in a great place fashion-wise, as her clothes designed to reflect her own style direction. Also, considering that Andy’s new job at Runway sees her serving as the high-ranking Features Editor, it makes sense that Miranda’s former assistant brings her fashion A-game to the magazine that got her career started.

Andy’s fashion trajectory is something I need to see more of in The Devil Wears Prada 2. Considering she initially had a reputation for having “no style or sense of fashion,” according to Runway's editor, it was satisfying to see her become someone who could powerfully sport Chanel boots, trendy coats and designer jewelry.

When Andy left Runway at the end of the OG movie, she ditched her high-end look for a downtown cool style with her brown leather jacket. So, Andy eventually cares more about her style than before, but has her own idea of what that is, as opposed Runway dictating that to her.

Over two decades later, I’m excited to see what Andy 2.0 will look like throughout the sequel. Of course, the same also goes for the fits that the other characters will be wearing. And, after Anne Hathaway was caught falling down the stairs while filming one scene as Andy Sachs, the actress has shared what was going through her mind at that moment.

Back in August, when Anne Hathaway was filming The Devil Wears Prada 2 in New York City’s Gramercy Park, photographers found the production and were snapping pictures as she walked out of a building in high heels. The actress had a fall down the stairs when one of her heels snapped, and the moment made its way on the internet. Here’s what Hathaway said about the moment:

Hathaway posted a video of herself falling during Princess Diaries and The Devil Wears Prada 2 on her Instagram after it happened with the punny caption “twenty years later, still falling for you”.

The Devil Wears Prada 2 comes 20 years after the original movie came out – even though it’s one of those movies we’re always rewatching. The sequel brings back Meryl Streep as Miranda Priestly (who seems to have forgotten Andy in the trailer), Emily Blunt’s Emily Charlton, Stanley Tucci’s Nigel Kipling, along with the same writer, Aline Brosh McKenna, and director as the original.

Audiences can also get excited about Justin Theroux, Kenneth Branagh, Simone Ashley, Lucy Liu, Caleb Hearon, B.J. Novak and more joining the cast this time around, and a super chic popcorn purse to accessorize with. The Devil Wears Prada 2 hits theaters on May 1.

There are times when seeing the name of a particular star or filmmaker can get you really excited for a new movie. Sometimes, a certain person being involved in a film can be the reason you decide to go. The new trailer for The End of Oak Street starring Ewan McGregor and Anne Hathaway is sure to tell you that it's produced by J.J. Abrams, but I'm not sure that's entirely necessary, because I could have guessed.

The End of Oak Street, formerly known as Flowervale Street, is only produced by Abrams. It's directed by David Robert Mitchell of It Follows fame. That's also not particularly shocking, as there are clear horror vibes in the new trailer. However, the thing that the footage, and likely the film as a whole, will be selling itself on is not what you are going to see, but the questions you want answered, in true J.J. Abrams fashion. The End Of Oak Street Is Pure J.J. Abrams Mystery Box

The trailer gives us Ewan McGregor and Anne Hathaway as part of a family who have apparently woken up one day to discover that their house, and their entire neighborhood, has been transported from wherever it was to someplace else. How or why did this happen? Thus far, nobody knows, but apparently, there are also dinosaurs.

Almost certainly, the how and the why of the supernatural transportation will be what the movie focuses on. It's not a shock that this is a Bad Robot production because this sort of thing seems to be exactly what gets J.J. Abrams out of bed in the morning. He has spoken at length in the past about his love for what he calls the "mystery box." A movie that is all about giving the audience questions and then getting them to watch the movie or TV show in order to get the answers.

A lot of people love J.J. Abrams' projects for exactly this reason. People tuned into Lost for years to follow every twist and turn in the story. I love a good mystery myself, and I won't pretend I'm not curious to see where The End of Oak Street goes with its story. The problem is, sometimes when we get J.J.'s mystery box open, we don't love what's inside.

The Resolution To These Mysteries Aren't Always Satisfying

The problem when you hang your entire movie on a central mystery is that the mystery's solution has to pay off, or people are going to leave the movie disappointed, regardless of how good the rest of it was. This is something we've seen happen with J.J. Abrams projects before. See the still-controversial ending to Lost as the most notable example.

It doesn't mean The End of Oak Street won't pay off and be great. Sometimes J.J. Abrams gives us The Cloverfield Paradox, sure. But sometimes he gives us 10 Cloverfield Lane, and we are dazzled. One way or another, we'll find out what's inside the mystery box this summer.

The Devil Wears Prada is the kind of movie I’ll sit down to watch every time it’s on TV or when it comes across my screen on streaming. It’s just that good. Now that the sequel’s release is less than two months away on the 2026 movie schedule and marketing has been in full swing (did you see that viral popcorn purse?) I watched the 2006 movie yet again, and now there's one thing I hope to see in the follow-up.

I Had A Big Takeaway When I Revisited The Original Movie

When I watched The Devil Wears Prada this time around, what was different for me is this time I was thinking about how the sequel could forward the stories told in the original. And, what really stuck out to me was the fraught relationships between Anne Hathaway’s Andy, Emily Blunt’s Emily and Meryl Streep’s Miranda.

I have no notes on how realistic they feel to how it might be in the cut-throat fashion magazine industry. But, yeah, it’s kind of a bummer that these women never form real relationships with each other by the end of the movie. It does feel like there’s an unspoken respect between them that’s touched on, but never outwardly explored.

For example, it seems like Miranda feels like she cannot show weakness in order to keep her intimidating presence and status intact, so she never gets close to Emily and Andy. Though at the end, Miranda does give Andy a glowing reference that helps her land her next job. Emily seems threatened by Andy throughout the film, and yet Andy gives Emily all the clothes she got during her trip to Paris when she leaves the position.

Overall, rewatching it got me thinking about how, in 2006, doing whatever you had to do for the hustle was pretty normalized in order to survive. And how in the past twenty years, there’s a different societal viewpoint on how much of our lives we should be giving to our 9-to-5’s. I mean, I don’t even think the idea of “work-life balance” would have been in Andy, Miranda or Emily’s vocabulary at the time. And, the idea of women lifting up other women in the workplace, even in small ways, was probably pretty revolutionary.

My One Wish For The Devil Wears Prada 2

I, of course, wouldn’t change the original The Devil Wears Prada for anything. I actually think it was quite ahead of its time in the way it dove into what it takes to be a woman in power at that time, and honestly, still is, in a lot of ways. But what I would like to see from the sequel is a continued exploration of this topic.

As far as Miranda goes, we know from the trailer that she claims not to remember Andy. I do wonder also if Miranda will let her guard down at some point and have a moment with Andy where their relationship will finally get to move past the boss/assistant dynamic, but I’m kind of OK if Miranda keeps being Miranda since she’s from the older generation, and it would be realistically more difficult for her to change her ways.

With that in mind, I would love for there to be a scene, particularly between Andy and Emily, in a way that allows them to reflect on being pitted against each other, now that they are older and more mature. I think it would be really cathartic and healing for other women who grew up on the movie to see them become friends (or at least allies) now that both of them have reached success in their careers, and perhaps help break the toxic cycle for the young assistants they must have themselves.

Anyways, The Devil Wears Prada 2 is definitely one of my most anticipated 2026 sequels, and we’ll see what happens when it comes to theaters on May 1.

As of late, the marketing has made me more confused (and intrigued) than ever, especially amid all those set photo leaks. However, a new interview moment has given me a reason to read between the lines and make a guess about the relationship between these characters.

What Anne Hathaway And Stanley Tucci Say About Miranda Forgetting Andy

About a month ago, one The Devil Wears Prada 2 trailer unveiled a scene where Anne Hathaway’s Andy Sachs goes on what seems to be another interview with Meryl Streep’s Miranda Priestley. But, in a funny hook/twist, Miranda apparently doesn’t even remember her former assistant. When the scene was brought up during an interview with Fandango, Hathaway and co-star Stanley Tucci said the following:

Stanley Tucci: “I don’t know what we can and can’t say, to be honest, but…”

Anne Hathaway: “We laughed so hard doing that scene that I had to do that thing where you start laughing and you can’t stop. And like, everyone’s waiting to go to lunch, and they can’t go to lunch.”

Stanley Tucci: “What’s beautiful about Meryl’s performance is that you’re not really sure if she does remember or doesn’t remember. And so, it’ll be up to the audience to decide for themselves.”

Tucci getting worried about what he “can and can’t say” and Hathaway pivoting to filming the scene rather than talking about it? Oh, there’s something here for sure.

What I Think This Could Mean For The Devil Wears Prada 2

In my opinion, the responses from the actors only underlined the thinking that something was off in that trailer. This isn't simply some kind of gag, which can't go throughout the entirety of the film. My theory is Miranda knows who Andy is from the second she walks in there. Yet, in order to protect her pride and the intimidating authority that she feels she must hold in order to maintain her status, Prisestly isn't aiming to admit she remembers one of her former assistants.

I also think there’s a subtle moment that Tucci plays in that scene where he kind of looks surprised by Miranda “not remembering” and then nods his head. Now that Hathaway and Tucci have been asked to talk about it and have gone all politician on us with the answer, I just know there’s more to this.

However, Tucci’s comments do have me wondering if there will ever be a moment where Miranda and Andy do get to reconcile their relationship and talk about the past. On, on the other hand, Miranda’s blank slate could mean she’ll never really change her professional dynamic with Andy. I think the former will play out, but we’ll have to wait and see.

This week, an incredible The Devil Wears Prada 2 popcorn purse was unveiled, as tickets officially went on sale. Also, per a new rumor, the legacy sequel is “testing very well.” I'm excited to see whether my theory ends up coming true, and fans will find out when the film opens in theaters on May 1 amid the 2026 movie schedule.

Saltburn director Emerald Fennell’s is an adaptation of the Emily Brontë classic, Wuthering Heights. While the film has received positive reviews, there are those who've called the romance-drama flick “aggressively provocative.” Also, per critics’ reviews of the book adaptation, it focuses too much on the eroticism of the source material. Amid the chatter, Anne Hathaway got to see this 2026 movie schedule entry for herself, and her take has since gone viral.

Anne Hathaway was able to screen Wuthering Heights sometime before its release this past Friday, February 13. In a message shared to her Instagram Stories, Hathaway told her followers to consider themselves "warned," but that wasn't the only piece of feedback she had:

That’s a rave review if I’ve ever seen one! All in all, it sounds like the Princess Diaries actress got a real kick out of the movie. It's been clear from the jump that Emerald Fennell aimed to make some changes to the source material for this generation of audiences. While that may rub some people the wrong way, it's evident that there’s a lot of sensuality in this Emily Brontë adaptation as well as fiery chemistry between the two leads, Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi. If anything, Hathaway's post gives me the feeling that this is far from a boring movie.

After Robbie held a screening of Wuthering for her friends, she recalled experiencing “screaming,” “constant commentary” and “sobbing” during the event. The girls’ night event had a dress code of “Victorian slutty” wardrobe, and there was plenty of alcohol. I can only imagine all of the fun everyone must have had. While that lively screening doesn't represent the masses, it does signify that the period piece can play well amongst certain crowds.

Before its release, though, Wuthering Heights received backlash from for being “whitewashed.” That was due to the decision to cast Elordi, a caucasian actor, as the character of Heathcliff, who was originally written as dark-skinned. Margot Robbie’s casting also sparked criticism, because the 35-year-old was cast as 19-year-old Catherine. Nevertheless, it seems there are those who are connecting with the film

Anne Hathaway, for her part, remains an active audience member at the movies, but the leading lady also has some big films coming up this year. There's The Devil Wears Prada 2, which opens this spring and sees Hathaway reprising her role as Andy. She's also be part of the truly epic cast of Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, in which she plays Odysseus’ wife, Penelope. Additionally, Hathaway is teaming up with Josh Hartnett for Colleen Hoover’s Verity and has the drama-thriller Mother Mary, and sci-fi thriller Flowervale Street on the docket.

For the moment, though, I'm just transfixed by Anne Hathaway’s eye-popping review of Wuthering Heights. Opinions on the film may swirl around accordingly but, if anything, Hathaway's reaction is a reminder to block out noise and see a film for yourself to form your own opinion. Movie lovers can do that now by heading to a cinema to see Robbie and Elordi's much-discussed romance film.

While a-listers only film one movie at a time, due to the magic of the movie release schedule, sometimes we’re lucky enough to not get just but, but two or more gems from a celebrity per year. We can thank studios holding projects for the opportune moment, and I just realized that in 2026 this means we’re getting not one, but three movies with Robert Pattinson and Zendaya starring together.

Maybe you've already connected these dots, but this is the first time I really put all the puzzle pieces together. In fact, it seems like a fact that should have been firmly cemented in my brain give 2026 is going to be a big year for quite a few A-listers, but somehow this flew under the radar until Pattinson himself opened up about working with Zendaya in a recent interview.

He opened up a few days ago about landing both Dune: Part Three and his new movie The Drama with Zendaya around the same time, and all those puzzle pieces started falling into place. Here's the 2026 lineup the two inadvertently crafted together:

• Dune: Part Three

That’s definitely three projects all coming out in 2026. The Drama is first up with an April 3 theatrical rollout. Christopher Nolan’s highly-anticipated The Odyssey will come this summer, rolling out into theaters on July 17th. Finally, we’ll get the sequel Dune: Part Three, a movie that originally felt like it wouldn’t get made right away, but has come down the pipeline quickly since Denis Villeneuve announced he “was moved” by the audiences’ emotional responses. I'm sure each of these films had the two actors working together to differing degrees, but they do both share billing.

Part of this wild year for a-lister releases simply has to do with The Odyssey having a stacked cast. A bunch of major names have roles in The Odyssey this year, including Robert Pattinson and Zendaya, but also her fiancé Tom Holland and Anne Hathaway. The latter two are also having banner years.

In fact, until this week, I really thought 2026 was going to be the year of Tom Holland. As it turns out, his flicks Avengers: Doomsday, The Odyssey, and Spider-Man: Brand New Day may be eclipsed by some actors with fewer entries on the upcoming Marvel movie schedule.

Hathaway is also in The Odyssey (honestly that list goes on and on, including the likes of Matt Damon, Charlize Theron and Lupita N'yongo). She also has Devil Wears Prada 2 coming earlier in the summer on May 1st. Then she's in the adaptation of Colleen Hoover's Verity, set for release on October 2nd, plus a flick called Flowervale Street from the It Follows director. So, as I said prior, it's really kind of a banner year for quite a few A-listers. Yet, I'm very interested to see how these Robert Pattinson and Zendaya roles pan out.

Despite being released in the summer of 2024, the drama surrounding It Ends With Us (which is streaming with a Netflix subscription) is showing no signs of slowing down. The book-to-screen adaptation did well in theaters, but Blake Lively's lawsuit against Wayfarer Studios kick-started a long legal battle that's still going on today. Some documents about the case were recently unsealed, and Anne Hathaway's name was dropped. So what's going on here?

Shortly after the Gossip Girl star's complaint was filed, director/actor Justin Baldoni filed a defamation suit against both Lively and Ryan Reynolds. In unsealed documents related to the case, e-mails between Sony execs Tony Vinciquerra and Tom Rothman were revealed (via Us Magazine), where they referenced the backlash at Lively related to the movie's promotions. When Vinciquerra defended her in a new story, Rothman responded via e-mail, saying:

Indeed, Lively was facing backlash ahead of the legal war. She encouraged fans to wear florals to theaters when seeing It Ends With Us, with some fans taking umbrage with this "challenge" in a movie about domestic violence. And there were plenty of negative videos on TikTok and other social media outlets like Instagram.

During this exchange about the hate Blake Lively was facing online, Tom Rothman went on to mention Anne Hathaway as another celebrity whom he thought got unwarranted hate from the public. His e-mail went on:

And just like, the Oscar-winning Les Misérables actress has been roped into the ongoing drama. While she wasn't named in any of the actual lawsuits, she's the latest celebrity to have a connection to the It Ends With Us legal situation. And there's no telling how many more names will be dropped before the Lively and Baldoni saga ends.

In addition to the controversy about florals, backlash came at Blake Lively over her interaction with a journalist in an interview years prior. This is another big reason why there was so much criticism coming at her online, which it appears the Sony execs saw and tried to combat.

It's currently unclear how long the battle between Baldoni and Lively will continue for, but both of their legal teams are showing no signs of giving up. As for It Ends With Us, that movie is streaming now on Netflix.
