Accidents and tragedy can strike anyone, at any time, and that includes actors. Car crashes, aviation accidents, and even more nefarious actions can befall even the most famous among us. Here is a list of 32 actors who died too soon, and too tragically. 

James Dean

it's hard to believe James Dean was only 24 years old when he was killed in a car crash in 1955. His star was burning bright as one of the most promising up-and-coming actors in Hollywood, having appeared in eight movies ((uncredited in five)) to that point. He starred in three huge hits at the end, including two, Rebel Without A Cause and Giant, that were released after his death. 

Jayne Mansfield

Jayne Mansfield was one of the biggest stars of the 1950s and 1960s, and one of the most notorious celebrities on the gossip pages as well. She was married three times and has five children, including Law & Order: SVU star Mariska Hargitay, something not everyone is aware of. Hargitay was only three when she, her mother, and her siblings were involved in the car accident that would take Mansfield's live in 1967.

Natalie Wood

One of the most notorious accidents (depending on what you believe) in Hollywood history caused the death of Natalie Wood. Wood was on a boat with her husband Robert Wagner and their friend Christopher Walken and either fell in or was pushed (again, depending on what you believe) and drowned. It's an enduring Hollywood mystery. 

Ricky Nelson

Ricky Nelson was most famous for his music career, producing a number of hits, first as a teen idol, and then later as a country singer. He first found fame as the son of Ozzie and Harriet Nelson, starring with his parents and brother on The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet in the 1950s and '60s. Nelson was killed on New Year's Eve, 1985 when the plane he was riding in caught fire, and toxic smoke filled the cabin before crashing near De Kalb, TX. 

Carole Lombard

One of the biggest stars in the Golden Age of Hollywood, Carole Lombard was one of the funniest actresses of her day. She was loved by millions and her popularity indirectly led to her tragic death. In 1942 Lombard was killed when the plane she was on while doing a War Bonds tour, helping raise money for the Second World War, crashed, killing all aboard. 

Heather O'Rourke

Nothing is more tragic than the death of a child. Heather O'Rourke's career and life were just getting started when she died at just 12 years old. O'Rourke stole the show in Poltergeist and without a doubt had a very bright future before she died suddenly due to complications of intestinal problems in 1988. 

Sharon Tate

On August 9th, 1969 Sharon Tate fell victim to the most infamous crimes in US history when she and the rest of the people in her house were brutally murdered by members of the Manson Family. Tate, who was pregnant at the time, was married to director Roman Polanski who was out of the country when the attack occurred. 

Anne Heche

Anne Heche's death in 2022 was shocking after she crashed her car into a house,  almost killing the occupant. It was assumed at the time that Heche was under the influence, but the coroner's report showed that she wasn't at the time of the crash, It remains a mystery as to what happened in those frantic moments before the fatal crash, which included Heche hitting two other cars before hitting the house. 

Dominique Dunne

The cast of Poltergeist has had a tough run. Not only did child star Heather O'Rouke die tragically at a young age, but the actress who played her older sister, Dominique Dunne, was killed by her ex-boyfriend in 1982 just months after the classic horror movie was released. It's been dubbed "The Poltergeist Curse."

Sonny Bono

Musician, actor, and congressman Sonny Bono was killed while skiing in Lake Tahoe. It was one of his favorite things to do, but sadly he struck a tree and died from the traumatic injuries. He was serving in Congress at the time of his death after a long career in music and television. 

Brittany Murphy

Brittany Murphy burst onto the Hollywood scene with her breakout role in Clueless. Like other child stars, she faced more than her fair share of difficulties in her personal life. Her life came to a tragic, and somewhat befuddling end when she died under mysterious circumstances in the apartment she shared with her husband in 2009 at age 32. Her husband died mysteriously in the same apartment just five months later. 

Desmond Llewelyn

For almost 40 years Desmond Llewelyn was beloved by James Bond fans for playing Q, the man who hooked up the super spy with all his ridiculous gadgets. Llewelyn was 85 years old when he was killed in a car wreck in 1999. It brought about the end of one of the coolest careers in cinema history. 

Bruce Lee

Chinese-American actor Bruce Lee defined what it meant to be a martial artist and actor. Even half a century after he died in 1973 he remains the archetype of the genre. He died at age 33 due to a cerebral edema, though more nefarious conspiracies are believed by some. No matter what happened, it was a tragic loss for all movie fans. 

Grace Kelly

Princess Grace, or Grace Kelly as she was known in Hollywood, literally lived a fairy tale life. Not only did she become one of the most famous actors in Hollywood, she eventually left that life when she married Prince Rainier of Monaco. It did not end in a fairy tale, sadly. Princess Grace was killed when she lost control of her car on a steep mountain road in the South of France after suffering a cerebral hemorrhage. Her daughter Stephanie survived the crash. 

Brandon Lee

There are plenty of conspiracy theories surrounding the "curse" of the Lee family. Two decades after Bruce Lee died unexpectedly at age 33, his son became the victim of an on-set death when a prop gun discharged a projectile at point-blank range, killing him while shooting The Crow in 1993. 

Phil Hartman

The tragic story of Phil Hartman's death is well known. Hartman was murdered in the early morning hours of May 28th, 1998 as he slept. His wife Brynn shot him three times, killing him, before later taking her own life. Even decades later, it's still shocking to remember and hard to come to grips with. 

Aaliyah

Singer Aaliyah was just starting her film career when her young life was cut short. After filming a music video in the Bahamas, Aaliyah and her entourage boarded a plane for Miami. The overloaded plane barely made it off the ground before crashing just off the runway, killing all aboard, including the Queen of the Damned star. 

Vic Morrow

One of the worst one-set tragedies happened on the set of Twilight Zone: The Movie when veteran actor Vic Morrow and two child actors were killed in a stunt gone wrong. Morrow was 53 years old when he was killed and the kids, Myca Dinh Le and Renee Shin-Yi Chen, were seven, and six, respectively. 

Anton Yelchin

Star Trek star Anton Yelchin was just 27 in 2016 when he was killed in one of the freakiest accidents ever. Yelchin was pinned between his own SUV and a pillar outside his home in LA when the SUV slipped into gear while Yelchin was checking on the gate. The truck rolled backward and wedged Yelchin in a spot he couldn't get out of, killing him. 

Sam Kinison

Comedian Sam Kinison was larger than life in every way. His trademark screaming delivery in his standup act made him one of the best ever. He came to comedy somewhat late in his life after leaving his career as a preacher. He was tragically killed when a drunk driver hit his car head-on on a highway near Needles, CA. 

Naya Rivera

Glee star Naya Rivera's death was both tragic and historic. Though it's now fully understood what happened, we do know that Rivera was in a rented boat with her son on Lake Piru when something happened as they swam. She managed to hoist her 4-year-old son into the boat, but couldn't manage to herself in and she drowned at just age 33. 

Paul Walker

In a devastating example of life imitating art, hero, and star of the. Fast and Furious franchise, Paul Walker, was killed when the Porsche he was riding in crashed at a high rate of speed. Tributes for Walker poured in and the franchise's other str, Vin Diesel, often pays tribute to his fallen brother. 

Chance Perdomo

Chance Perdomo was having a career-making moment when his life was cut way too short. While on his way to film Season 2 of Gen V, he crashed on his motorcycle in upstate New York. He was killed by the accident and shortly after it was announced the part would not be recast in respect for Perdomo.

Adrienne Shelly

Adrienne Shelly has possibly become more famous in death than she was in life, with a musical based on the movie she wrote, directed, and starred in, Waitress running for 4 years on Broadway after her death. Shelly was murdered by a contractor in 2006 while she was in her office, a case filled with so much intrigue that Law & Order based an episode on it. 

Bob Crane

Hogan's Heroes star Bob Crane lived a wild private life. Publicly he was beloved for his lead role on the show, but behind closed doors, he lived a secret life making home movies of his intimate encounters with women. Lots of them. None of that was known until after Crane was found murdered in his rented apartment in Scottsdale, AZ. The case has never been resolved after his friend and fellow taper Bob Carpenter was acquitted of the murder after a trial. 

Ryan Dunn

"Live fast and die-hard" is an old adage that Ryan Dunn lived up to. The Jackass star was famous for his ridiculous stunts and wild lifestyle, blurring what was real and what was a persona. Sadly, it eventually killed him when he crashed his Porsche 911 after having too much to drink near his home in Pennsylvania. 

Audie Murphy

When actor and World War II veteran Audie Murphy died in a plane crash in 1971, he was one of the most famous men in the country. His star has faded and his far less well-known today, but the two-time Medal of Honor winner turned his military renown into Hollywood fame when he became an actor after the war. In addition to being one of the most decorated soldiers in US history, he starred in more than 40 films. 

Joan Rivers

Actress and comedienne Joan Rivers was a national treasure and even at age 81 she was showing little sign of slowing down. That made her death, caused by a botched surgery in 2014, all the more shocking. She died on the table, was revived, but died again a week later having never woken up from a medically-induced coma. Her death was marked by hundreds of celebrities and she is still very missed for her biting wit and hilarious jokes. 

Carl "Alfalfa" Switzer

Carl Switzer was one of the earliest child stars in the Golden Age of Hollywood, best known as Alfalfa in Our Gang. Like too many child stars who left Hollywood behind, his adult life was very difficult. Switzer eventually became a dog breeder and was murdered by a friend and client in a dispute over a dog Switzer was training went missing. 

Steve Allen

Hollywood legend Steve Allen's death is a cautionary tail. Allen was involved in what seemed like a minor car accident while he was backing out of his driveway on his way to see his son. After arriving safely at his son's house, Allen laid down for a nap and never got up. Injuries caused by the accident were to blame, injuries that were imperceptible, it seems, until they weren't. 

Sal Mineo

James Dean famously died before his two biggest films, Rebel Without A Cause, and Giant, were released. His co-star in both movies, Sal Mineo, also had his life cut tragically short when he was murdered in 1976. At just age 37, Mineo was stabbed to death in the driveway of his house by a mugger and never recovered from the injuries. 

Natasha Richardson

Natasha Richardson, who starred in The Parent Trap alongside Lindsey Lohan, was killed doing something she'd never done before - skiing. Richardson, who was married to Liam Neeson at the time of her death, fell while taking a lesson in Quebec and hit her head. She seemingly recovered from the fall, but later complained of headaches and was airlifted to a New York City hospital where she died due to an epidural hematoma, or bleeding on her brain.

The Oscars are an occasion on which Hollywood celebrates the past year’s best movies -- as selected by the Academy. However, it’s also a time to acknowledge the passings of performers and crew members who left their marks on the entertainment industry. This year, the 95th Academy Awards continued that tradition with its In Memoriam segment. But it would seem that some beloved actors were left out of the reel this time around. Surprisingly, notable names like Anne Heche and Robert Blake are among those who were snubbed.

The In Memoriam portion of this year's Oscars was introduced by John Travolta, who appeared visibly emotional as he spoke. As noted by The LA Times, Travolta talke about commemorating the stars “who we will always remain hopelessly devoted to.” This was surely very personal for him, since this past year, his Grease co-star Olivia Newton-John died, and his Look Who’s Talking colleague, Kirstie Alley, sadly passed away as well. While those two stars were represented as well as many others while Lenny Kravitz performed “Calling All Angels,” the news outlet -- and fans at home -- took note of the glaring omissions.

As mentioned, one famed star who wasn’t mentioned was Anne Heche, who died at age 53 after multiple car crashes and a fire that she was engulfed in while trapped in her car. At the time, she was widely mourned by Hollywood and those who were fans of her work, such as Donnie Brasco, I Know What You Did Last Summer and one of her final films, Girl in Room 13. Considering how much attention her sudden passing received, it's honestly surprising that she wasn't included in the reel.

Another Hollywood great who was omitted from the ceremony’s segment was Robert Blake, who died this month at the age of 89. Known as being one of the first child actors to transition well into an adult acting career, he started his career in the Our Gang short film series and notably starred in the 1967 film In Cold Blood. But Blake also became synonymous with the murder of his second wife, Bonny Lee Bakley, who was shot in the head while in the former child actor’s car after the two went out to dinner. Despite his ties to the incident, Blake was still highly regarded for his work as an actor.

In addition, Goodfellas icons Paul Sorvino and Tony Sirico, who both died in July 2022, were also not included. The same is true of Native American civil rights activist Sacheen Littlefeather. She notably made Oscars history when she participated in one of the biggest Oscar scandals. In that situation, she spoke on Marlon Brando’s behalf in 1973 when he declined his Best Actor award due to his disapproval of Hollywood’s portrayal of Native Americans. Two weeks before her death, the Academy publicly apologized to her for how she was treated that night. While one can't give an exact reason as for why she wasn't in the In Memoriam reel, the LA Times speculates that it could be because of claims made by her sister, who opined that the group would be “pushing the lie” surrounding Littlefeather's Native American ancestry if she were to be featured.

It's honestly hard to say why any of these influential figures were excluded. When Luke Perry was omitted from the In Memoriam tribute at the 92nd Academy Awards, the group responded, saying that it get hundreds of requests for potential inclusion. And of course, the segment’s limited available time doesn’t leave enough room for everyone. 

Despite that, one would think that Anne Heche, Sacheen Littlefeather and more will be remembered for their contributions regardless. Fans should also be aware that even though they weren't mentioned during their telecast, the stars are acknowledged on the In Memoriam page on the Oscars' official website.

The untimely death of Anne Heche still has her fans and co-stars in mourning. It’s bittersweet that the Volcano and Six Days, Seven Nights star has projects releasing in the wake of her passing, and the memories of those roles has kept her spirit alive with plenty of beautiful stories to tell. The latest tale of Heche’s spirited persona comes from Joey Lawrence and wife/co-star Samantha Cope, as the couple had the experience of witnessing one of her final roles in their rom-com Frankie Meets Jack. 

Through tales of ad-libbing and her gracious nature, the married co-stars painted a picture for People that commemorated Heche as the superstar her friends and colleagues knew her to be. Sharing her memory of that energy, Cope provided this beautiful detail as part of the whole package:

Adding to the cast of colorful characters is Anne Heche’s role of Katrina, the mother of a friend to Frankie (Samantha Cope). Apparently Heche was so impressive with her quick wit that, according to Lawrence, it was difficult to edit her scenes without losing the good stuff.

After the tragic car crash that led to Anne Heche’s death, all sorts of stories came pouring out. Men in Trees co-star Emily Bergl got real about rumors that Heche was “crazy,” dispelling those claims with stories similar to what Samantha Cope has shared from her Frankie Meets Jack experience. 

Another story about a conflict with Harrison Ford, but ended in forgiveness, over matters dealing with her sexuality came from Anne Heche herself, through her posthumously released memoir Call Me Anne. Whether it’s through her own words or the accounts of others, the Wag The Dog star’s legacy is one that’s ultimately remembered fondly. 

Adding in his own thoughts on Anne Heche’s goodwill, Joey Lawrence recalled another facet of working with the talented actor. Commenting on the overall presence that she gave the production, Lawrence celebrated the professional excitement that radiated from Ms. Heche as follows:

The public was shocked this summer when actress Anne Heche tragically passed away, following a fiery car crash and a few days in the hospital. Since then fans and co-stars alike have reminisced about her talents, as the matter of her estate was worked out in court. Heche left behind two children: Homer Laffoon and Atlas Tupper. The latter son is 13 years old, and recently broke his silence about his mother’s death. 

Anne Heche died on August 12th, due to smoke inhalation and injuries from her car crash. Given to the surprising nature of this incident, she didn’t have a will prepared at the time of her death. As such, the family has since made headlines due to a legal battle over her estate, as well as custody of Atlas Tupper. While it seems that’s been settled for the time being, both Atlas and his father James Tupper recently participated in the Los Angeles Inquisitor’s tribute to the late actress. In this story Atlas is quoted, saying:

Pretty powerful stuff. Hearing Atlas’ words further highlights the tragedy of Anne Heche’s unexpected passing. It helps to paint a picture of their relationship, and shows the very real people who are affected by this celebrity death. Regarding the legal battle surrounding her estate, Anne Heche’s older son Homer Laffoon recently got some good news, and got access to her things. But there were stipulations placed by the judge, so the situation could change sometime in the future. Regardless, those she left behind truly miss her, especially her two sons.

Last year Anne Heche passed away tragically, but fans interested in learning about her notable life will still have a chance to do so, as the actress completed a memoir prior to her death. In the new book, Call Me Anne, a companion to a previous memoir, the actress talks about her experiences on the set of Six Days, Seven Nights, and a “confrontation” she had with director Ivan Reitman and co-star Harrison Ford, over her public relationship with Ellen Degeneres, though she also had positive things to say about how the actor supported her. 

Anne Heche’s most high-profile film role was the romantic comedy Six Days, Seven Nights, and the movie was going into production just as Heche’s relationship with Ellen Degeneres was entering the public eye. Radar Online reports that in the book, Heche mentions a rumor going around that the couple was planning to have a child, and the rumor became so widespread that it came up on the set. Heche uses the word “confronted” to describe the conversation she had with the film’s director Ivan Reitman and Ford.

It seems that the two men felt that the openness of the relationship was causing them problems. Reitman reportedly asked Heche why she couldn’t handle her sexuality more like Jodie Foster, referencing the actress whose sexuality was, at the time, not public knowledge, but was apparently still widely known within the industry.  

While Heche was apparently somewhat shocked by Ford coming to her like this, she says she ultimately forgave the actor, elsewhere in the book she calls him a mentor during the film’s production. The reason for her surprise may have been the support that Ford had shown her prior to production. Heche had said previously that she almost lost the role in Six Days, Seven Nights after she took Ellen to the premiere of another film. Ford called her and made it clear that none of it mattered to him, and Heche credits Ford’s support as the thing that allowed her to keep the role. 

It’s a reminder of just what things were like in Hollywood in the late ‘90s. While an actress's sexuality would certainly be more accepted today, few major names in Hollywood were out in that era, and people were clearly unsure how to handle it. Heche was a major tabloid target at the time, which brought attention to the movie that it may not have received otherwise. Anne Heche arguably became the story rather than the movie itself.

Frequently when major memoirs are released the author is there to talk more about the stories held in the pages. In this case that won’t be possible. Anne Heche died last year when an automobile she was in crashed into a building and caught fire. 

Earlier this year actress Anne Heche passed away following a terrible car crash that left her severely burned. Following the event it was far from clear exactly what had caused the accident as the actress had reportedly been speeding and driving erratically. Now the toxicology results and the autopsy have been released, but they provide very few answers.

According to People, tests of Anne Heche’s blood and urine show that she had used both cocaine and cannabis at some point prior to the accident. However, there is no evidence that their use impaired Heche’s ability to drive, because what was found indicated that she used the substances at some point in the past, but not at the time of accident. According to a spokesperson for the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner… 

In the case of cocaine, her body had reportedly metabolized whatever she had taken previously, so it was not impairing her physically. The cannabinoids found in Heche’s system were found in urine but not in her blood, which is “consistent with prior use” but not at the time of the accident. The only other substance found in Heche’s body was fentanyl, but that wasn’t found in her body when she was admitted to the hospital, only in the autopsy, so it appears it was given to her as part of her treatment. The spokesman continued…

In August, Anne Heche was involved in a pair of single car accidents in quick succession when she crashed her car into an apartment building in a neighborhood in Southern California, then left the scene of that accident, only to crash into a house a short time later. The second crash started a fire that destroyed the home and trapped the actress in her vehicle. Anne Heche remained in a coma for a week before she was declared legally dead, though her body was kept alive for a few more days to allow for organ donation. 

The autopsy lists the official cause of death as an “anoxic brain injury” caused by a lack of oxygen. The lack of oxygen was caused by the severe burns preventing her body from absorbing oxygen. 

The autopsy report comes on the heels of what appears to be a settlement over Anne Heche’s estate. The actress’ died with no will, leading to a court battle. This resulted in her son and former partner battling over control for the several months since her death. Heche’s son Homer Laffoon has been named administrator of the estate, valued at about $400,000.

The public was shocked when actress Anne Heche passed away on August 12th, following a car crash and hospitalization. This latest update comes to us from People, which reports that Homer Laffoon has officially been named the general administrator of Anne Heche’s estate. This decision was made by Judge Lee Bogdanoff, who ruled in his favor… with some stipulations. Laffoon’s attorney Bryan Phipps offered a statement to People after this decision was made public, which reads:  

The legal battle surrounding Anne Heche’s estate had lasted for months, making plenty of headlines in the process. Given the unexpected nature of the late actress’ death, her will wasn’t updated prior to the tragic car crash. And as a result, Homer Laffoon and James Tupper both made claims to the estate, in addition to questions about custody of Heche’s younger son Atlas Heche Tupper. Although it’s unclear where that issue currently stands.

As previously mentioned, Homer Laffoon’s victory in this matter does have some stipulations from Judge Lee Bogdanoff. Namely that he could be removed as administrator if there is any evidence of fraud or embezzlement. The exact amount of money Heche’s estate is worth is currently unclear, especially as her second memoir is expected to be released in January. 

During their time in court, Homer Laffoon’s legal team was especially eager for him to have access to his late mother’s belongings, which includes financial paperwork and personal items. As part of his victory, the ruling indicates he has the ability to:

But there are some specific terms to this as well. Homer Laffoon must reportedly move all of the property into a storage facility. Moreover, he’s expected to catalog the inventory within five days of that move. 

It remains to be seen if James Tupper issues any response to this legal shake-up, and how the custody battle regarding Atlas Heche Tupper ultimately shakes out. But Homer Laffoon has seemingly received a major W in the matter of his late mother’s estate.

The public was shocked by the death of Anne Heche back in August, which happened as the result of a truly terrible car crash. Since the 53-year-old actress’ passing was so unexpected, there’s been a legal battle over her estate, as well as the custody of her youngest child. And now Heche’s eldest son Homer Laffoon has requested more access to his late mother’s estate.

On August 31st Homer Laffoon filed a petition to the Los Angeles County probate court asking to be named Anne Heche’s estate administrator, as the late actress didn’t have an updated will at the time of her passing. But there’s been some push back, namely by Heche’s ex James Tupper who is also trying to take control of her estate. And per a new report by Page Six, Laffoon is hoping to get even more access, which will seemingly be up to the courts.

According to documents acquired by Page Six, Homer Laffoon filed an application to expand his authority over his late mother’s estate. Specifically, he’s hoping to take his mother’s money and possessions ahead of the next court hearing. Per this report he wants to be able to get access to Anne Heche’s apartment, to get those personal belongings that “need to be moved out of the apartment as soon as possible in order to avoid additional fees, costs and possible loss to the estate.”

Earlier it was reported that Anne Heche passed away with $400k in her bank account at the time of her unexpected death. It seems like Homer Laffoon is trying to straighten up her financial situation, and that there are unclaimed checks in the apartment. Per this legal statement, Laffoon “is aware of numerous checks made payable to [Heche] that need to be negotiated, endorsed and deposited into a bank account in the name of the estate in a timely manner so that the checks are not voided."

Considering Anne Heche left two sons behind her, being able to properly account for all of her money is no doubt important– even if its less than the public might have assumed. James Tupper, Anne Heche’s former partner and father to their 13-year-old son, Atlas, had filed papers in court claiming that he had been in charge of the actress’ estate prior to her death and that's what she had wanted. However, with Heche having no legal will, a judge has now ruled that Heche’s adult son, Homer Heche Laffoon, will be in charge of the estate... at least for now. In a statement to ET, Laffoon’s lawyer, Bryan Phipps, said:

The judge ruled that at this time there was simply no legal reason for Homer Heche Laffoon to not act as the administrator of Anne Heche’s estate, which is valued to be about $400,000. The estate will be split 50/50 between Homer and the 13-year-old Atlas, but Homer will be the administrator of the estate since Atlas is a minor. 

There was some disagreement in court regarding some other items, such as whether or not Atlas had been able to enter Heche’s apartment to retrieve personal belongings. Tupper’s legal team claimed he had been prevented from doing so, but whatever the situation, the judge ruled that Atlas should be allowed to enter the apartment to obtain his things.

In August, Anne Heche was involved in a single vehicle accident when her car crashed into an apartment building, setting fire to both the vehicle and the building. Heche was eventually pulled from the car, but not until after firefighters were able to get the blaze under control. The actress remained in a coma for about a week before being declared brain dead and taken off life support.

Tupper was clearly unhappy with the ruling, reportedly shaking his head as the judge spoke, something he was admonished for by the judge. He has the ability to appeal the ruling, so we'll have to wait and if this is truly the end of this legal battle, or just the beginning. He has until October 20 to file the appeal.

But that’s not all that’s come from Tupper regarding his possible role as executive of his ex’s estate. He also maintains that Heche’s oldest son Homer Lafoon isn’t qualified to be in charge of this responsibility, namely because he’s 20 years old and allegedly unemployed. What’s more, the Men in Trees actor even claims that Lafoon was estranged from his mother at the time of her passing.

Obviously these allegations are quite serious, and it seems like the stakes are high regarding the fate of Anne Heche’s estate. For his part, Homer Lafoon’s attorney reacted to this news in a statement to TMZ about the dispute. It claims,

Homer Lafoon also claimed that he hasn’t been able to get in touch with his half-brother Atlas, alleging that his father James is controlling his phone. This further complicates the situation, and shows how much is seemingly at stake regarding their legal battle. We’ll just have to wait and see if the two ultimately meet at court, and how it all shakes out. But clearly the public is invested in the proceedings.

This report claims the law firm Wasser, Cooperman & Mandle have dropped all charges against James Tupper on behalf of Anne Heche. Although they allegedly dropped it with prejudice, meaning they could choose to re-file at a later date. With so much in the air surrounding the late actor’s estate and children, it makes a great deal of sense that the legal team would leave their options open.

For those unfamiliar, Anne Heche and her ex-husband James Tupper met while working on the ABC darmedy Men in Trees. But when splitting up back in 2019, a ton of drama followed for the pair of actors. In addition to fighting over custody of their child Atlas, a number of allegations were also made. Tupper reportedly accused Heche of drug use, of losing nearly $500k. Meanwhile, Heche accused Tupper of selling their house without her permission. 

Given Anne Heche’s passing, it stands to reason that this type of lawsuit would ultimately be dropped. James Tupper was one of the many people who spoke highly of his ex-wife’s character after her death. But it remains to be seen if the lawyers decide to ultimately file for that lawsuit again. As Anne Heche’s family, friends, Hollywood and her fans mourn the actress following the multiple car crashes that occurred on August 5, more details have been revealed about fire department's response to the incident that led to her death. Per reports, Heche was stuck in her Mini Cooper for 45 minutes from the time firefighters arrived at the scene of the house fire and pulled her out. This happened seven days prior to her death, which reportedly stemmed from smoke inhalation and thermal injuries. 

It was reported that Anne Heche was involved in multiple collisions, in the Mar Vista neighborhood of Los Angeles, the final one destroying a house and setting off the house fire. According to official records and time-stamped recordings of radio communications, the Los Angeles Fire Department arrived to the scene at 11:01 a.m. on August 5. However, Heche was not found until 24 minutes later, and first-responders were not able to pull her from the wreckage until 11:49 a.m. LAFD Deputy Chief Richard Fields said this to NBC Los Angeles about the report: 

Apparently, the actress was found collapsed below the front seats of her vehicle. When the fire department located her and confirmed that she was still alive, the firefighters used a heavy duty tow truck to get the car out of the fire. The star was then rushed to Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center before being transferred to Grossman Burn Center at West Hills Hospital, where she received specialized care. 

Despite the LAFD’s best efforts, Anne Heche was declared brain dead on August 11 but, since she was an organ donor, she remained on life support until recipients were found days later. Fields also said this about the firefighters’ response to Heche’s incident:  

Anne Heche died at the age of 53 and was survived by her two sons, 20-year-old Homer Laffoon and 13-year-old Atlas Heche Tupper. Since Heche had no will, Homer recently filed documents to be named the administrator of her estate and to be named the guardian of his younger brother. Heche's cremated remains were buried at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery on August 23, and the Hollywood community sent their love following Heche's death. Among those who reached out were her former girlfriend, Ellen DeGeneres, and former colleague Alec Baldwin. 

The actress will be forever immortalized through her work in movies such as Six Days Seven Nights, Donnie Brasco and Wag the Dog. Since the star was still a working actress at the time of her death, she will be present in coming projects, such as HBO’s The Idol, which is among upcoming TV premieres.

This crucial step comes as a result of the fact that it’s currently unknown how much the I Know What You Did Last Summer star was worth upon her death.

The result of multiple car crashes and a fire hospitalizing Anne Heche days earlier, her official passing was after a prolonged period of time that saw her comatose and on life support. Due to California law, Heche had to be declared dead twice, which led to some confusion in the reporting that ensued.

Aside from being an appropriate place to honor Anne Heche and her work in the entertainment industry, Homer Laffoon also revealed another sweet reason why he’s happy that his late mother found a resting place in the Hollywood Forever Cemetery: because it hosts events. As he put it,

Talk about a powerful message. While Anne Heche’s death is truly a tragedy, it’s comforting to know that she’s being honored in death in this way. Especially because her two sons seem so thrilled about where Heche’s remains were ultimately placed. Hopefully this offers a sense of closure in this otherwise unimaginable situation.

He passed away from AIDS-related complications in 1983. 

Heche also spoke about what really happened during the shocking turn of events in Fresno in 2000 when she was found wandering and muttering about a spaceship. The Wag the Dog actress wrote she took an Ecstasy pill to get on a spaceship to find love in heaven. Her alternate personality, Celestia, was part of a “fantasy world” in order to escape the abuse she went through in the real world. 12 days after shooting Donnie Brasco, she said there were bleeding crucifixion marks on her feet and had a vision she would have “the next Immaculate Conception.” 

Another thing that Anne Heche wrote about in her memoir was the unfortunate deaths of her siblings. Her 23-year-old brother committed suicide by running his car off the road and her sister, Cynthia, died when she was two months old of a heart defeat. The Daytime Emmy Award winner wrote in the second chapter how she was hoping to meet her sister in heaven one day and that they’d be friends. A moment of scandal spoken about in the book that was well-known in the media was her relationship with talk show host and comedian Ellen Degeneres. As people back then were not accepting of same-sex relationships, she was shunned by the industry for that then-controversial romance and almost didn’t get the part in the comedic film Six Days, Seven Nights with Harrison Ford.

It’s possible that the Ohio native was going to write a follow-up to her memoir. In a podcast episode of “Behind the Velvet Rope” that was released posthumously was an interview of Heche earlier this year where she said her next book would have been called “Call Me Sane” and a “flipside” to her last book. She wanted to write a more hopeful book about how to get over abuse and how to love yourself. Heche also said during the episode that if a biopic was made about her life, she’d like Miley Cyrus or Kristen Bell to play her. It’s a real tragedy that fans will not be able to read what could have been Anne Heche’s possible book sequel. Before her death, one of the last people she may have seen was a salon owner who denies ever supplying the late actress with drugs.

Richard Glass, the owner of Glass Hair Design salon in Venice, California, has been accused by social media users of supplying Anne Heche with drugs before her death. In a video from TMZ, Glass emotionally spoke about how overwhelming it’s been for him to be attacked on social media. 

The Los Angeles Times reported that Heche was at Richard Glass’ salon that morning which was two miles away from the crash site. He said that she didn’t appear intoxicated when she saw him and was looking to buy a bright blue wig. When he told her he didn’t have one available for her, she decided to buy a red one instead. It didn’t matter to her that the red wig wasn’t cut, styled, or washed; she bought it from him anyways. Social media users clearly made illogical assumptions that this salon owner’s interaction with Heche involved drugs when all she bought from him was a red wig. He told TMZ that he’s never even touched drugs. 

While Glass may not have recognized the Donnie Brasco star at first, it became more clear to him as soon as he rang her up. He couldn’t help but post selfies of their encounter on Instagram where his caption said, “So I met @anneheche today and she purchased a #redwig so random.. I love #venicebeach #actress #director #mom #celebrity #lifestyle.” He also told The Times that his encounter with the I Know What You Did Last Summer actress was “very pleasant” but also “so strange” as she grabbed his face and asked if he had done her hair before. While he told her he hadn’t, he still offered to work with her in the future. Even though Glass denied ever supplying drugs to the Ohio native, he still felt guilty about being one of the last people to ever see her and wondered if he could have done something to help her while she was at his salon.

It’s a real tragedy to ponder what-if scenarios over a situation you had no control over. Not only has Richard Glass been mourning Anne Heche, but a number of other people who cared about the late actress. Her ex-husband and son paid tribute to her expressing their sadness and how much they’ll miss her. On a bittersweet note, an organ recipient has been matched for the Daytime Emmy Winner to be able to donate her organs.

Some media outlets declared Heche dead on Friday, while others did not report her death until Sunday. To the outside observer, they would have seen Heche’s death reported twice. 

On Friday the family of Anne Heche reported that the actress was brain dead. This caused many media outlets to report the actress as dead, because under California law, she was dead at the point that her brain function ceased. The law allows for death to be declared under two separate circumstances and reads in part… 

Anne Heche was in a car accident on August 5th that caused a fire that destroyed her car and a home and burned her severely. She never regained consciousness after the accident and while initial reports indicated that the actress might survive, shortly after it became clear that Heche’s injuries were severe. By August 12 it was being reported that Heche was not expected to live and it was later that same day that the announcement came that she was brain dead. 

Heche’s brain had ceased to function on Friday, however she was kept on life support until Sunday so that her organs could be harvested for donation. It wasn’t until life support was turned off, and Heche stopped breathing, that other outlets reported the actress was truly dead. So some reported the actress as dead from a legal standpoint, while others waited until her body had completely shut down to use the word “dead.”

While certainly not the first time that somebody’s “death” has fallen into this gray area, it’s a place of both legal and philosophical confusion. The question of when somebody is truly dead is a difficult one to answer. While many outlets that announced Heche’s death on Friday, including CinemaBlend, specified that Heche was brain dead only on Friday, not everybody would truly consider that death, even if recovery was no longer possible at that point.

And just like individual people, media outlets are going to have different perspectives on the question. One newspaper or website might consider brain death to be death in the same way the California law does, while another’s editorial guidelines may require more than that, leading to some places to wait days to call the actress dead after so many others already have.

It is now being reported that actress Anne Heche, after spending a week in a coma following a series of devastating car crashes, has been taken off of life support and – according to her representatives – “peacefully” died in her sleep. The Volcano star was 53 years old. 

Anne Heche had been professionally acting since 1987, when she landed the part of Vicky Carson on the soap opera Another World. Over the years, she would mix high-profile television work such as Murphy Brown, Ally McBeal and Everwood with film roles that expanded her celebrity. She’s likely best known for acting opposite Harrison Ford in the romantic comedy Six Days Seven Nights or Tommy Lee Jones in the disaster picture Volcano. Though more recently, she lent her voice to the popular The Legend of Korra and earned a new and widespread fanbase. 

Heche has been generating daily news coverage since she crashed her automobile twice in Los Angeles. The first time, Heche drove into the garage of an apartment complex. The second and final time, Heche careened off of the road at high speeds and landed in someone’s home. She was rushed to the hospital and remained in critical condition, though authorities weren’t able to properly conduct toxicology reports on the actress due to her critical condition. 

Eventually, reports were taken and results were released. Cocaine was found in the actress’s bloodstream, as was fentanyl, but it’s unclear of the latter was given to her in the hospital as part of her pain treatment. Photographs taken on the scene of the initial crash, the one that heche drove away from, suggested that a bottle of Vodka may have been present in the car’s cup holder, though nothing has been confirmed since. 

Support for Anne Heche flowed over social media in the days following her accident. Her former ex husband Coleman “Coley” Laffoon shared a touching video salute to Heche and gave an update on their son, Homer. Fellow actor James Tupper, who was in a relationship with Heche from 2007-2018, also posted a loving message to the actress and featured a photo of her with their teenage son, Atlas Heche Tuppwer. Of course, Heche was involved with talk show host Ellen Degeneres for a highly publicized relationship that last years, but when paparazzi caught up with Degeneres, she only said that the two no longer keep in touch. 

With Anne Heche being taken off of life support, People is now reporting that an organ recipient has been matched, which is part of the reason why the decision was made to remove the actress from the assistance. The accident occurred over a week ago and, shortly after, the Los Angeles Police Department launched an investigation into the matter. But now, the LAPD has confirmed that it is no longer probing the situation. All the while, stars from across the entertainment industry are paying tribute to Heche after her untimely passing. 

The LAPD announced the end of its investigation this past Friday, the same day that the Emmy winner was declared legally dead. The law enforcement agency’s analysis of the crash reportedly began on August 5th, the day that it happened. At that point, the authorities launched a DUI investigation and issued a warrant for the star’s blood draw test. The LAPD confirmed the conclusion of its examination through a statement that was shared with People. In it, the department also acknowledged how things would proceed with any records that were requested:

Coleman "Coley" Laffoon, who was married to Anne Heche from 2001 to 2009, posted a video to Instagram in which he spoke about her death. Laffoon said that he “loved” Heche and will “always” miss her. Nancy Davis, Anne Heche’s friend, first broke the news on her Instagram page, and a representative for the actress’ family and friends confirmed her passing to People. It is worth noting that while Heche’s heart is still beating, she is described as being “brain dead,” and under California law, that’s considered to be legally dead. She remains on life support so that suitable recipients can be found for her organs. Heche is survived by her two sons. Per the statement from the aforementioned representative:

Anne Heche’s family has released a statement regarding the actress’s condition following a series of car accidents she suffered almost a week ago. And unfortunately, the news is not positive. 

In a statement that has been obtained by CNN, Anne Heche’s friends and family have revealed:

Earlier this week, Anne Heche was involved in two crashes in the Los Angeles area that eventually led to her having to be hospitalized. During the first incident, Heche’s vehicle went off the road and crashed into the parking garage of an apartment complex. The actress pulled away from that crash scene and continued driving, but eventually sped off of the road at a high speed and crashed into a home in the Mar Vista neighborhood of West Hollywood. 

As waves of support poured in from Anne Heche’s family members and friends, reports came from local authorities that they planned to test the actress’s blood for toxins that may have impaired the driver and caused the crash. Early reports coming in suggest that Heche might have had cocaine and fentanyl in her system, though it’s being argued that the fentanyl might have been administered by the hospital staff as a pain medication. 

Paparazzi caught up with Anne Heche’s famous ex Ellen Degeneres earlier, but the talk show host made it clear that the two do not keep in contact anymore, so she had no real information to offer beyond well wishes and condolences. Though updates on the actress’s condition were arriving on the regular from her representatives, this morning’s news discussing how Heche will be remembered seems to suggest that there is no hope of a recovery, and she will die from the injuries sustained in the accidents.

However, regarding the fentanyl, it’s unclear if the fentanyl comes from the hospital staff giving it to her as pain medication, or if it was in her system when she crashed her car. Furthermore, the publication describes Heche’s condition as “dire,” as the actress has apparently not improved since she was brought to the hospital.

If you’re out of the loop on what’s happened with Anne Heche, around noon on August 5 in the Mar Vista neighborhood in west Los Angeles, the actress reportedly crashed her blue Mini Cooper into the garage of an apartment complex. She then pulled out and sped away, only to then crash into a nearby residence shortly thereafter. That was the crash that ignited the fire and engulfed both the house and her car in flames, and it allegedly took firefighters 65 minutes to remove Heche from the vehicle. The LAPD opened an investigation into what happened on Friday, but as of yet still haven’t officially released any findings, because as already mentioned, this latest information was passed along from anonymous sources.

In the aftermath of Anne Heche’s accident, James Tupper and Thomas Jane, both of whom were previously romantically involved with the actress, shared messages of support for the Donnie Brasco star. Ellen DeGeneres, who dated Heche from 1997 to 2000, also broke her silence on what happened, saying that while the two haven’t been in touch, she doesn’t “want anyone to be hurt.” A GoFundMe has also been started for the residents of the home Heche crashed into, and as of this writing, over $133,000 has been raised for them.

It’s been more than 20 years since Anne Heche and Ellen DeGeneres were in a relationship. And while both have had successful careers of their own since then, for many the two will likely always be connected. For that reason many have probably been waiting to see if Ellen made any public comments on the wild car accident Heche was recently involved in. Now she has, and while Ellen didn’t say much, she made it clear she hopes Heche is ok.

Ellen was approached by a paparazzi photographer who asked her if she had spoken with Anne Heche since the accident, which seems unlikely since reports are that Heche has been in a coma since the accident and has yet to regain consciousness. In a clip posted by ET, Ellen is clearly not interested in talking with the man, but does say that she doesn’t keep in regular contact with Heche. Ellen then joined the chorus of friends that certainly hopes Heche is ok. In her words…

While the long term injuries to Anne Heche are unclear, the most recent word is that she unfortunately is very hurt. As mentioned earlier, she reportedly fell into a coma shortly after the accident and has yet to awaken. Her reps have also said that a pulmonary injury is requiring mechanical intervention to help her breathe. She is also suffering from severe burns that will require multiple surgeries.

After initial reports that Anne Heche was stable following the accident, the more recent update from her people called her condition critical. The LAPD opened an investigation into the accident after it happened on Friday, but they have released no information from that investigation as of yet.

Ellen, a major sitcom star in the late '90s, was the highest profile actor to come out at the time making the whole thing a major media focus. Heche has made comments since then that she was blackballed by Hollywood due to the relationship. This includes a story that Heche has told that she needed Harrison Ford’s help to save her role in their romantic comedy Six Days, Seven Nights. 

A lot is still unknown about exactly what led to actress Anne Heche being involved in a pair of automobile accidents in short succession last Friday. The crashes started a fire that burned down a Southern California home and left Anne Heche reportedly in a coma. The LAPD has been investigating the incident since it happened, but it may still be some time before we know what happened, due to the fact that Anne Heche is still hospitalized and is expected to be for some time.

Initially it was reported that drawing blood was going to be difficult as Anne Heche’s body has been pretty severely burned by the fire she was in. She was apparently trapped in her vehicle for about an hour due to the fire that started following the second crash. It’s possible the coma that she is in was medically induced due to the pain she would otherwise be in.

Support for Anne Heche has been pouring in since news of the crash broke. On Friday Heche was driving through a neighborhood in Los Angeles when she crashed into a building. She reportedly sped away from the scene of that accident, before crashing again some miles away. The second crash started a fire which engulfed both the vehicle and the home she had crashed into. Firefighters apparently had to work for 65 minutes before Heche could be pulled from the vehicle, which goes to explain the severity of the burns on her body. 

Initial indications were that Anne Heche was doing significantly better than this description indicates. We thought that while the road to recovery might have turned out to be long, it seemed that she would recover. But now it looks like those early reports may not have been entirely accurate and Heche may be in far worse shape than we thought. 

If Heche has a lung injury that means she can’t breathe on her own, and she hasn’t been conscious since the accident, then the road to recovery will be a long one indeed. She needs to overcome these current medical obstacles before she can even begin long term healing. 

At this point, there’s no information about what may have led to the crash itself. Deadline reports that the LAPD has obtained a court order to do a blood draw on Anne Heche. However, it had been said previously that due to the burns on her body getting such a draw was not possible, so it’s unclear if the blood draw has actually happened.

One certainly hopes that Anne Heche is able to recover, even if it is a long and difficult process. Neighbors of Lynne Mishele, the woman whose house was largely destroyed by the fire have started a GoFundMe page and have raised more than $110,000 so far.  

Support for Anne Heche continues to pour out after the actress was involved in a horrific car crash on Friday in Los Angeles. The car Heche was driving ran off the road and into a residence. It has left her hospitalized and in a state that largely prevents doctors from being able to figure out what happened.

The crash happened around noon on Friday in the Mar Vista neighborhood of west Los Angeles. According to TMZ, Heche was driving down the road when she crashed her blue Mini Cooper into the garage of an apartment complex. Heche then reportedly pulled away and sped off, and sometime later crashed a second time into a residence. The second crash started a fire that engulfed both the car and the house.

Anne Heche was taken away from the scene of the accident on a stretcher and she was reportedly burned in the fire, though the extent of the burns is unclear, beyond that her injuries are not considered life threatening. She is apparently intubated in hospital, though the burns apparently prevent doctors from performing many tests on the actress. 

Many are, of course, wondering how exactly this could have happened, but at this point, there's not a ton of information out there. Police haven't released any theories, and the results of any tests they may have been able to perform haven't been made public. 

Anne Heche has nearly 100 acting roles to her credit though she may still be known best as the woman who was dating Ellen DeGeneres when Ellen first came out as gay. The couple was together for three years but split in 2000.

A lot was made of the fact that Heche was gay, and the actress says she was blacklisted for the relationship. It came up when she starred opposite Harrison Ford in the romantic comedy Six Days, Seven Nights. There was a point where filmmakers apparently considered taking Heche off the movie but the actress credits Ford with saving her job on the film. In 2013 Anne Heche starred in the NBC comedy Save Me, but it was cancelled after seven episodes. 

While Heche has not achieved A-list status as an actress through the years, she's had a solid and consistent career. Appearing in regular roles on TV from HBO's Hung to NBC's Chicago P.D. This is clearly a complicated situation. Had it simply been a single car crash, speculation likely wouldn't be nearly as rampant. But everything that happened, all we can do is wait on answers and an update from the police.

Her most recent role is in the Ryan Murphy procedural, 9-1-1, where she was introduced in Season 2 as 911 operator, Maddie Buckley Kendall and still has a role on the show. But that’s not all, as she also did a bit of writing since her role in the popular slasher film. Jennifer Love-Hewitt had a five issue comic book series called Jennifer Love Hewitt’s Music Box back in 2009-2010, which she helped come up with the ideas for, and she also wrote the book, The Day I Shot Cupid. Not only that, but she coined the term, “vajazzling,” which is pubic decoration with gems and stones. Movie star, TV star, author, and coiner of words. What can’t this woman do?

Sarah Michelle Gellar (Helen Shivers)

Sarah Michelle Gellar will probably always most be known for her starring role in  Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but she’s been acting since 1983 in the TV film, An Invasion of Privacy. Since then, she’s done everything from movies, TV shows, and even music videos, such as Stone Temple Pilot’s “Sour Girl”, appearing as an authentic-looking goth girl.

Film-wise, Sarah Michelle Gellar jumped from I Know What You Did Last Summer to Scream 2 (in the same year!), went on to do Cruel Intentions, Scooby-Doo 1 and 2 as Daphne, and also terrified the living daylights out of me in The Grudge 1 and 2. Her last film was 2013’s The Illusionauts. TV-wise, besides Buffy, and appearances in its spin-off, Angel, she has since had a main role on 2013’s The Crazy Ones, which co-starred Robin Williams, and has also lent her voice talents to animation, like her 5-episode run as Seventh Sister on 2015’s Star Wars Rebels. She will next be heard in the upcoming animated series, Masters of the Universe Revelation as Teela.

Ryan Phillippe (Barry Cox)

Like a lot of actors, Ryan Phillippe got his first big break on a soap opera, his being One Life to Live for a 13-episode run back in 1992-1993. He would go on to do a number of TV shows and movies (most notably, the excellent Crimson Tide) before he would land his role as Barry Cox in I Know What You Did Last Summer. Since 1997, he’s done a number of TV shows and movies. And like Sarah Michelle Gellar, he also did some music videos, most notably as a blink and you’ll miss it cameo as the TV host in Outkast’s phenomenal video, “Hey Ya!”

On television, Ryan Phillippe kept himself busy in the aughts in shows like 2015’s Secrets and Lies, 2016’s Shooter, and most recently, in 2020’s Big Sky as Cody Hoyt. Film-wise, Phillippe played roles in Gosford Park, Crash, Flags of Our Fathers, and most recently 2020’s Brothers by Blood. His next films will be the true-crime drama film, American Murderer, and the comedy, Lady of the Manor, both of which are still upcoming.

Freddie Prinze Jr. (Ray Bronson)

Freddie Prinze Jr., who married his I Know What You Did Last Summer co-star, Sarah Michelle Gellar, has kept super busy in TV and film, and even in pro-wrestling. On the film end, he was one of the only survivors who made it to I Still Know What You Did Last Summer, but he was also in Wing Commander, both Scooby Doo movies, again with his wife, as Fred Jones, and most recently as a voice cameo in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker as Kanan Jarrus.

On the TV end, he’s been on everything from Frasier to Friends, from Boston Legal to WWE Raw. My favorite Freddie Prinze Jr. role was as Cole Ortiz on 24 in Season 8, but he’s also had roles in Psyche, Bones, and Punky Brewster as well. Also, the force is strong with this one, since he not only had a voice cameo in the The Rise of Skywalker, but also the Star Wars shows, Rebels, and most recently, in 2021’s Star Wars: The Bad Batch as the character Caleb Dume on the episode “Aftermath”. Cool!

Bridgette Wilson (Elsa Shivers)

Yes, Bridgette Wilson played Elsa Shivers in I Know What You Did Last Summer, but to me, she will always be Sonya Blade from 1995’s Mortal Kombat. But since those two films, she did a few TV episodes, most notably on the shows Frasier, CSI: Miami, and 2008’s Carpoolers.

On the film end, she went on to have roles in Love Stinks, House on Haunted Hill, and Shopgirl. Her last film was 2008’s Phantom Punch, though she's credited for voicing the role of Sonya Blade in the video game Mortal Kombat 11.

Anne Heche (Melissa “Missy” Egan)

Anne Heche has had a long and rich career as an actor, but she’s also done some directing and even wrote the book Call Me Crazy: A Memoir, back in 2001. Like Ryan Phillippe, she got her start on a soap opera, hers being Another World. She would then go on to do several shows following her role in I Know What You Did Last Summer, such as Ally McBeal, Nip/Tuck, Hung, and Dancing With the Stars as a dancer back in Season 29. But my personal favorite role of hers is her voice acting on The Legend of Korra as Toph’s daughter, Suyin Beifong.

On the movie end, she did a number of films, like John Q, The Other Guys, and Catfight. Her most recent role in a film was 2020’s The Vanished, and her most recent in a TV show was 2021’s legal drama, All Rise. She had a two-episode run on the show. We’ll keep you posted on whatever film or TV project she does next.

Johnny Galecki (Max Neurick)

For some, Johnny Galecki will always just be Dr. Leonard Hofstadter from the immensely popular The Big Bang Theory, which will likely live on in syndication forever. But for me, he will always be Darlene’s boyfriend, David Healy, from Roseanne. Well, outside of those two shows, he’s done a number of projects in both TV and film. On the film side of things, he was in Vanilla Sky, Hancock, Rings, and 2019’s A Dog’s Journey, which was currently his last film role.

On the TV end, he was of course on The Big Bang Theory, but also My Name Is Earl, Hope & Faith, and most recently again reprising his role as David Healy on The Conners. He looks to have taken a break from acting for the time being, so we’ll have to wait and see what's ahead for the actor.

Stuart Greer (Officer)

Stuart Greer began his acting career in off-Broadway plays, but would eventually land his first film gig in I Know What You Did Last Summer. From there, some of his most notable film performances were Runaway Jury, The Mechanic, and his last film role being 2015’s American Ultra.

On the TV side, he was on the Sundance original series RETIFY, the AMC show, TURN: Washington’s Spies, and also as the character, Roman, on a couple of episodes of The Walking Dead. He had a stroke in 2016 and has retired from acting.

Muse Watson (Ben Willis/The Fisherman)

And lastly, the dude who actually knows what you did last summer, it’s Muse Watson! He played the fisherman in the movie. Muse Watson has had a prolific career in both films and television. On the TV end, he’s been in everything from JAG, to Prison Break, to The Mentalist, to even Ghost Whisperer for one episode. His most recent TV role was 2014’s Justified, and he can next be found in the TV miniseries, Diary of a Lunatic, as The Creator.

On the film side, he is also one of the few characters to return in I Still Know What You Did Last Summer, but his role as The Fisherman was probably the biggest role in his filmography, as he mostly did much smaller films like American Outlaws. His most recent film was 2014’s Suburban Gothic, where he played a character named Ambrose.

So, in the end, was I Know What You Did Last Summer one of the greatest horror movies of all time? No, not really. But it didn't have to be, because as I said up top. It was fun. Timing can make the difference in any sort of scenario you can come up with. In the case of Anne Heche going on her first public date with then girlfriend Ellen DeGeneres, her timing couldn’t have been worse in the eyes of those who disapproved of a same-sex relationship. Literally a day before their big coming out, Heche was cast in the ‘90s comedy Six Days, Seven Nights alongside aviation enthusiast and actor Harrison Ford, and it’s something that almost lost her that part altogether. That is, until Ford stood up for his co-star, being a real-life hero in the process.

During a guest hosting spot on Entertainment Tonight, Anne Heche shared the story that after her big revelation to the public, she was basically shunned by an industry framework that wasn’t as comparatively progressive as it is today. In her own words, here’s how Harrison Ford reassured her that she wouldn’t lose out on her role in Six Days, Seven Nights:

When Harrison Ford says something, it usually sticks unless the party on the other end is either sizably larger, or unafraid of losing their job. This was definitely true in 1998, with Ford’s role in Six Days, Seven Nights coming after not only a two-film run as Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, but also a year after Air Force One became a major hit on his resume. So for him to push for the security of Anne Heche’s job is no small feat, as he could have found himself blacklisted in a similar, but less severe context.

The results couldn’t have spoken for themselves any better, as not only was Six Days, Seven Nights a hit at the box office, but Anne Heche was absolutely the right choice for the role. Even by merely watching the trailer to the Ivan Reitman directed film, you can see that Heche and Harrison Ford were an on-screen pair that was meant to work like gangbusters:

In her post Six Days, Seven Nights career, Anne Heche went on to do everything from star in a remake of Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho to making guest spots on Ally McBeal, Nip/Tuck, and even Adventure Time. More recently, Heche was eliminated from the competition on ABC’s Dancing with the Stars, making headlines in the process. Her career seems to have been quite fruitful in spite of outdated thinking almost derailing things early on, and in its own small part, the actions of Harrison Ford helped boost Anne Heche to where she is today. Something, as you can see, she is consistently grateful for.

The latest episode of Dancing with the Stars took an unfortunate turn late in the broadcast, as Tyra Banks found herself smack dab in the middle of a live TV snafu. The first-year host of the ABC competition series made quite the unfortunate mistake when attempting to announce the bottom two teams, convincing one pair that they were safe when, in fact, the opposite was true. The mistake was awkward enough for one DWTS pro dancer to hit up social media and compare Banks' misstep to Steve Harvey's Miss Universe foul-ups back in 2016 and 2019.

For what it's worth, Val Chmerkovskiy was one of the two people most suited top make that comparison, considering he and his Cheer star partner Monica Aldama went from thinking they were completely safe to suddenly being jettisoned into the bottom two. Here's how he reacted on Twitter following the episode.

For those who didn't watch, Monday night's episode pared the overall contestant group down to the Top 13, and in the end, three teams were left on stage waiting to hear their fate. The teams included Vernon Davis and Pete Murgatroyd, Anne Heche and Keo Motsepe, and Chrishelll Stause and Gleb Savchenko, with Val Chmerkovskiy and Monica Aldama having been sent off the stage with all of the other safe couples. Though Tyra Banks was correct in identifying Heche and Motsepe as being one of the bottom two hopefuls, she also erroneously named Davis and Murgatroyd as the other bottom pairing.

Thankfully, depending on how you look at it, Tyra Banks quickly spoke up and admittedly there was a mix up. She then had to call Val Chmerkovskiy and Monica Aldama back onto the stage to take their rightful spot in the bottom two, with Anne Heche and Keo Motsepe being eliminated in the end. (Heche reportedly stormed off the set and refused to talk to anyone after that, according to Page Six.)

Val Chmerkovskiy wasn't the only one who drew comparisons between Tyra Banks' live TV blunder and the highly publicized mistake that Steve Harvey made when hosting the Miss Universe Pageant. At the time, Harvey announced the name of Miss Colombia as the winner instead of the true victor, Miss Philippines, and he took a wild amount of flak for the error in the weeks and months afterward. Considering the grand global stage attached to that annual special, I can't imagine that Banks' gaffe will overshadow Harvey's flub in the long run.

Citing the unpredictability of live TV, Tyra Banks blamed her erroneous information on a control room error (which not all fans were keen to believe), but judge Bruno Tonioli also came to the host's defense, saying:

To his latter point, Tyra Banks has already faced much scrutiny and criticism from Dancing with the Stars fans for joining the show as host and executive producer so shortly after producers fired former hosts Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews, with the hopes of revitalizing the long-running competition series. It seemed to be working at first, with the Season 29 premiere drawing over 8 million people on the night. However, around 2.4 million people have already fallen out of that audience just three episodes later. I wonder what the ratings would be life if Banks just got every single contestant wrong every time she talked to our about one.

In a time when shared universes are all the rage with the success of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, NBC followed suit with a slew of interconnected procedural dramas collectively known as One Chicago. Chicago Fire and its spin-offs, Chicago P.D. and Chicago Med, all of which premiered within three years of each other, feature interweaving cast members and storylines all existing in the same titular Midwestern metropolis and have even crossed over with other series produced by Law & Order creator Dick Wolf.

The elder series in this shared “trilogy,” Chicago Fire, which debuted in 2012, and Chicago P.D., which premiered two years later, have followed two groups of professionals in their personal lives and with their lives on the line for eight years and six years, respectively. Given the severity of their professions, survival cannot be guaranteed for everyone, which has been made clear with some central characters’ succumbing to dire circumstances. Of course, some left just to explore other career aspirations, which is also the case for several of the actors involved.

It seems like now is as good a time as ever to commemorate the veterans of these enduringly popular series about fighting fires and fighting crime. The following is what five former series regulars from Chicago Fire and Chicago P.D., each, have been up to since their final episodes.

Monica Raymund (Gabriela Dawson) - Chicago Fire

After her first starring role as human lie detector Ria Torres on the short-lived Lie to Me and landing a recurring spot on hit CBS political drama The Good Wife, Monica Raymund became a founding cast member of Chicago Fire as Gabriela Dawson. The temperamental ambulance paramedic turned firefighter had her association with Truck 81 end in 2018 when she left to provide medical attention to those in need in Puerto Rico. Following her exit, Raymund also went through a relocation of her own to Hightown, the STARZ series from producer Jerry Bruckheimer in which she currently plays a National Marine Fisheries Service agent struggling with her own sobriety as she becomes involved with a disturbing murder investigation in Cape Cod.

Yuri Sardarov (Brian Zvonecek) - Chicago Fire

Nicknamed "Otis" after a certain brand of elevators for his specialization in rescuing victims from said contraption, Brian Zvonecek, played by Yuri Sardarov, was a co-owner of the bar Molly's with a few of his colleagues from Truck 81 who also liked to share his experiences as a firefighter on his own podcast. The Season 8 premiere of Chicago Fire would be Sardarov's final episode as a series regular, with Otis succumbing to injuries from a mattress factory explosion. The Eurasian born actor will next be seen in the 2020 release of Adam, his first feature film to be released since 2012's Argo, despite being filmed in 2011, in which Breaking Bad star Aaron Paul plays real-life quadriplegic Adam Niskar.

Lauren German (Leslie Shay) - Chicago Fire

Years before the heartbreaking loss of Otis, one of the first bouts of personal tragedy the characters of Chicago Fire would face was the murder of paramedic Leslie Shay, played by Lauren German for the first two seasons. The actress had experience with location-specific TV series, from recurring roles on TNT original Memphis Beat and CBS's long-running modern day reboot of Hawaii Five-0, prior to playing the Ambulance 61 first responder. German has since continued her status as a procedural drama vet and low-key horror scream queen (particularly from 2003's The Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake and Hostel: Part II in 2007) by starring as Detective Chloe Decker on a show that combines both genres: Lucifer.

Charlie Barnett (Peter Mills) - Chicago Fire

Before he discovered the true nature of her sexuality, Leslie Shay briefly caught the eye of Peter Mills, a Squad 3 firefighter played by Charlie Barnett. Ironically, the actor, who left the show when Peter moved to North Carolina to open a restaurant with his family, is gay in real life, which he has expressed artistically in pre-Chicago Fire roles, such as the movies Private Romeo and Gayby, and since his exit, like on Netflix's series revivals of Tales of the City and You. Barnett, who also starred on Netflix's Russian Doll and as John Diggle's son on Arrow, will star opposite Drew Barrymore and Ellie Kemper in the comedy The Stand-In and will return to NBC in Matt Reeves' upcoming drama series Ordinary Joe.

Dora Madison Burge (Jessica Chilton) - Chicago Fire

Serving as Peter Mills' replacement on Ambulance 61 was Jessica Chilton, also known as "Chili" and played by Dora Madison Burge, but only for a short time, as the death of her twin sister, Alyssa, sent her into a grief-stricken spiral that cost her the job after 17 episodes. Chicago Fire is actually one of several hit series on which Burge has appeared in a short-lived recurring role, with others most notably being Friday Night Lights and Dexter. Since leaving the show, the actress has re-emerged as a rising scream queen in leading the disturbing 2019 psychological indie Bliss, playing a central character of Into the Dark's Mother's Day special, and appearing in two upcoming technophobic sci-fi thrillers: the feature-length 2020 SWSX submission Lapsis and the 10-minute short Into that Goodnight.

Sophia Bush (Erin Lindsay) - Chicago P.D.

After playing Brooke Davis on One Tree Hill from 2003 to 2012, Sophia Bush debuted as Detective Erin Lindsay on Chicago Fire the following year before becoming a series regular on the police-based spin-off. When Lindsay left CPD for an FBI position at the end of Season 4, Bush followed by taking several small roles in notable films and TV shows, including voicing a superhero in Incredibles 2 and playing a love interest for Kevin (Justin Hartley) in one episode of This Is Us. The actress will appear in Love, Victor, Hulu's series spin-off from Love, Simon, the indie music drama Hard Luck Love Song, and alongside Pierce Brosnan and Ilana Glazer in False Positive, which is being described as a modern Rosemary's Baby.

Jon Seda (Antonio Dawson) - Chicago P.D.

Another Chicago P.D. main character who first appeared on Chicago Fire is Antonio Dawson, played by Jon Seda. He actually stepped away briefly to star in the failed Chicago Justice, but then exited the franchise completely when the detective left the police department, supposedly, to aid his sister, Gabriela, in Puerto Rico. Antonio is actually the second of Seda's characters that also exist in the Law & Order universe, after Paul Falsone on Homicide: Life on the Streets, which had also crossed over with L&O, just as P.D. has. The former aspiring boxer is set to return to NBC for La Brea, a survivalist drama about a mysterious LA sinkhole.

Elias Koteas (Alvin Olinksy) - Chicago P.D.

Before playing CPD undercover operative Alvin Olinsky, Elias Koteas starred as more than a few characters with a badge, such as with his role in Collateral Damage, or as a man known simply as The Policeman in 2010’s Let Me In. However, the Canadian character actor is best known for classics like Terrence Malick’s The Thin Red Line, high school drama Some Kind of Wonderful from writer John Hughes, and the 1990s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies, in which he played Casey Jones. Since his 2018 exit from Chicago P.D. after Alvin’s murder, Koteas has been filming the Syfy original movie Cipher, which will see him taking on an evil A.I. He is also joining the cast of Billy Bob Thornton’s Amazon series Goliath.

Anne Heche (Katherine Brennan) - Chicago P.D.

The death of Alivin Olinsky is actually what sparks the first appearance of Department Superintendent Katherine Brennan, a recurring character on Chicago P.D. played by Anne Heche. The Emmy-nominee has led a very eclectic career spanning three decades, from the daytime soap opera Another World, to Gus Van Sant’s infamous shot-for-shot Psycho remake, and the short-lived NBC military procedural The Brave in 2017. Heche will continue to show her various tastes with a slew of upcoming feature films that range from light family drama like Wildfire, to a tornado disaster flick called Thirteen Minutes, and the post-apocalyptic survivalist thriller Salvage, which is one of two films categorized as horror the actress has on the horizon.

Josh Segarra (Justin Voight) - Chicago P.D.

Another Chicago P.D. actor who has also led a career of impressive variety is Josh Segarra. His role on the series as Sgt. Hank Voight's (Jason Beghe) former inmate son, Justin, turned out to be shockingly brief, as it ended with the character's tragic murder. Segarra's character on daytime children's program The Electric Company, which lasted from 2009 to 2011, did not suffer the same fate. But, his antagonistic Arrow character Adrian Chase (also known as Prometheus) did, and this time it was self-inflicted. The actor, who has also lent his voice to video games such as Red Dead Redemption, most recently made a recurring guest appearance on another CW series Katy Keane, and is currently working on the comedy film First One In and a TV adaptation of the 2018 Kevin Hart movie Night School.

Despite possessing a bizarre plot, and ludicrous arc for its characters, Catfight seemingly has a lot to say. Writer and director Onur Tukel takes aim at the fragility of life, our careers, our relationships, how obsessed people can become with rivalries instead of focusing on ourselves, and details how life can change in an instant, all of which he presents to us through the prism of two bitter rivals repeatedly fighting and jostling over a period of several years.

Yet, in the end, what Catfight actually has to say doesn't amount to much. To be fair to it, Catfight dolls out the requisite amount of absurdist violence to suffice, but even though it endlessly teases a profound satirical message it proves to be all talk.

The fight scenes are a crazy, over-the-top, enjoyable ride to behold, though, with Anne Heche and Sandra Oh going full pelt into their bouts of aggression and rage, which results in two separate two-year stints in a coma. The films kicks off with Veronica Salt (Sandra Oh) preparing for her husband's big business party, where it will be announced that his company is set to profit off of the war on terror in the hundreds of millions.

Unfortunately, on the way to the soiree, he reveals that he's unhappy with her drinking problem, and insists that she stays off the booze throughout the night. She can't resist, though, and during her trip to the bar she recognizes her former college pal Ashley Miller (Anne Heche), who is a struggling artist that is also working as a waitress to pay the bills. They soon start baiting each other, and then the verbal barbs turn into fisticuffs, which results in an all-out brawl that the duo will partake in for several years to come.

Catfight is at its best when it works itself into a frenzy, whether its through the scenes of physical violence or angry outbursts, with Sandra Oh and Anne Heche able to paper over its cracks thanks to their fully committed performances, even though their characters are stick thin with substance. But it's in between these jostles that it quickly tails off, as its attempts to satire art, capitalism, hospitals, and a variety of other topics lack the gumption or punch to really land.

For a supposed comedy, I produced a smile on a handful of occasions. Even those were the sort of smiles I only reserve for a joke I misheard, but which the teller is now loudly guffawing at. Sandra Oh is able to bring some poignancy with a particularly brutal sub-plot, but that's never able to truly pull you into the film. Instead, it feels more of a taste of what could have been if it hadn't been so preoccupied with making a number of vague, ultimately meaningless, points.

It also doesn't help that for a long period of the film Catfight's main characters are utterly loathsome, and they constantly block you from ever building an investment or connection with the film. When coupled with its failure to land the knockout satirical punches it endlessly threatens, you quickly realize that Catifght lacks and won't ever produce the savvy or bombast to provoke full-blown enthusiasm.

Yet, at the same time, those involved are so aggressively divided that Catifght feels oddly prescient. It even possesses a barb towards Donald Trump that will either provoke a standing ovation or a round of boos, depending on your allegiance. At the same you're always just about interested enough to want to see how it all ends, too. When it does you'll feel neither overly enthused nor disappointed just mediocrely content, like after you've eaten a solid bowl of soup. Considering the part tribal, part intellectual piece Onur Tukel was obviously trying to create with Catfight, such placidness is actually probably the harshest response his film can receive.

NBC has picked up a new comedy project from Will Ferrell and Adam McKay’s production company, Gary Sanchez Productions alongside actress Anne Heche. The comedy seems to be taking the whole Bad Teacher concept into other workplace possibilities, even sort-of copping the name. Bad Judge is about a female Criminal Court judge who isn’t such a good girl.

Heche, according to Deadline, initially brought the idea to Gary Sanchez Productions. The project follows a woman who sits on the judge’s bench for a living. Meanwhile, in her private life, she’s promiscuous (and not the least bit regretful about it), and lives life on the edge. This sounds less like a comedy and more like a Lifetime movie to me, but apparently Heche has managed to convince some big names in the comedy business it’s a good idea.

Bad Judge joins the trend towards female-focused comedy that seems to be overtaking much of the new TV development these days. Heche, in fact, already has a comedy on the way for NBC. Save Me, in which Heche stars as a woman whose near-death experience leaves her with an apparent gift for prophecy, is slated for a midseason premiere. It also joins, in my opinion, another recent trend in television towards unfortunate titles. Perhaps the networks really just are short on creativity.

Written by Chad Kultgen, who wrote the upcoming star-studded film The Incredible Burt Wonderstone ( featuring Steve Carrel, Jim Carrey and Alan Arkin), will be writing the script. Ferrell and McKay are executive producing along with Heche and Jill Messick. It’s a good team, so maybe the whole thing will turn out better than it sounds.

Among the pilots given the greenlight by NBC is Save Me, a comedy series that stars Anne Heche as a woman who has a near-death experience, which leaves her believing she's a prophet. NBC's episode description gives us a better idea of how Heche's character Beth almost dies, and the clips from the pilot show us what she's like afterward.

It looks like we may have to wait for midseason for this one, as it doesn't appear on the 2012-2013 fall line-up for NBC. But it looks amusing and the description for it offer some interesting plot twists, including the fact that Beth's husband Tom (Michael Landes) has a mistress.

It sounds like this incident involving the hero sandwich has a drastic effect on Heche's character. I sort of wish we could see what she was like before she almost died, but these clips both seem to focus on the after effects:

I like Anne Heche, especially from her Men in Trees days, so it should be interesting to see what she does with this new series.

Last week, we learned that NBC was considering early launches for a couple of series, likely aiming to make good use on the post-Olympics space on the schedule leading into the fall season. Among the mentioned shows was Save Me, a new comedy starring Anne Heche. While the series was was technically still in the pilot phase at that time, the fact that NBC was already looking for a place to park the show suggested very good odds for the project. Sure enough, Save Me has been picked up to series.

Deadline reports that NBC has given Save Me a 13-episode order. Written by John Scott Shepherd, the single-camera comedy stars Heche as a woman who undergoes some kind of spiritual awakening that think she might be channeling god. It certainly sounds like a quirky role for Heche, and it'll be a quick transition (back) to network television for the actor now that HBO's Hung is done.

Save Me joins Go On as another comedy given an early series order by NBC. Things are also looking good for The New Normal, a comedy series co-written by Ryan Murphy, and starring Andrew Rannells, which was also reported to be among the shows possibly set for an August premiere, however there doesn't appear to be any official word (yet) on a series order for that one. In the meantime, things do appear to be taking shape for NBC on the comedy front and humor amidst personal crisis seems to be a theme.

Character actor Colm Meany, who has been tearing it up on AMC's Western-drama Hell on Wheels as Doc Durant, has just signed on to join the cast of the soon-to-shoot indie thriller The Occult according to THR. Rufus Sewell and Anne Heche were the first stars to commit to the flick that focuses on a cult preparing for the coming of the devil's daughter, who may or may not be played by newcomer Alycia Debnam-Carey. Penned by a fleet of screenwriters that includes Karl Mueller (The Divide), Andrew Stern (Disconnect) and the horror-crafting duo Marcus Dunstan & Patrick Melton (Piranha 3DD), the Satan-centric offering reveals the final days before their prophecy will be proven right or wrong, and as the crucial date—wherein the spawn of Satan will turn 18 and become a woman/the bringer of the End of Days—approaches, a string of deadly murders begins to plague the town. Is it all a part of the prophecy or does someone have a scheme of their own?

Confusing? Yes, yes it is. But the producers behind The Occult are being incredibly tight-lipped on the project. Not only are the released plot details frustratingly vague, so also are the casting updates. While we know Meany, Sewell, Heche and Debnam-Carey have signed on, we have no reports as to what characters they'll play, not even such vague descriptions as "a concerned mother" or "the sheriff." I'm all for keeping a thriller's twists secret, but I can't imagine knowing basic sketches of character archetypes would be damning much less enter spoiler territory. Anyhow, The Occult is shooting in North Carolina this month, but is not expected to hit theaters until 2013. Until then, we'll be left to wonder.

Horror-fan turned movie producer Slash (of Guns 'N Roses fame) has begun casting his first feature film, the horror-thriller Nothing to Fear. Inspired by the town of Stull, Kansas, which is said to be the home of a gateway to hell, the movie centers on a family whose hopes of a simpler suburban life are derailed when they cross the path of a charismatic but disturbed man of the cloth. While Oscar-nominee Thomas Haden Church was in talks to play the part of this perturbed preacher last fall, THR reports consummate character actor Clancy Brown (Highlander, The Shawshank Redemption) has just signed on to portray this reprobate reverend, who will face off against Ethan Peck's (In Time) "townsperson with a past." Anne Heche (Rampart), James Tupper (Playing the Field) and Willa Holland (Legion) have also joined the cast, presumably as the sure-to-be-tortured family.

While I had hoped Church would stay onboard--simply because he should be in more movies--I have to admit Brown seems an inspired choice for the role of this malevolent man of God. He's shown a stunning screen presence in his past works, and a chilling ability to play merciless authority figures. Slash's producing partner Rob Eric has said as much, admitting the love that he, Slash and their Slasher Films' co-founder Michael Williams share for Highlander, which he calls "one of the movies we remember as kids that make us do what we do now," urged them to approach the multi-talented performer whose most prolific gig of late has been as the voice of Mr. Krabs on the off-the-wall Nickelodeon cartoon Spongebob SquarePants.

Easily encapsulating why Brown is a great fit for the role, Eric gushed:

When asked how he feels relative unknown Peck will stack up against his onscreen adversary, Eric was confident their chemistry will prove explosive, saying, “It’s a very hard thing to go up against an actor who is so strong and embodies his role as Clancy does but Ethan is that man. Ethan will have really intense scenes with him.”

Nothing to Fear is currently in pre-production, no shooting schedule has yet been announced.

The single-camera comedy that NBC picked up with a cast-contingent pilot order back in September is moving forward; the contingency has been lifted by the casting of Anne Heche in the leading role. Save Me is headed into production now that Heche has signed on to work both in front of the camera and behind it as producer on the series.

Deadline reported today that the series is headed into production of the pilot, joining two other new NBC series now filming. Most recently picked up to pilot was a female buddy comedy from Kari Lizer and already filming is Isabel, starring Marcia Gay Harden.

Save Me will tell the story of a woman who is involved in an accident and comes out of it believing she now has the ability to channel God. It took a while to find the right leading lady, but Heche has finally come on board to play the role. Once best known for being Ellen DeGeneres’ girlfriend, Heche has made a name for herself in movies and television and most recently starred on HBO’s Hung. She’s also appeared in Everwood, Nip/Tuck and Men in Trees.

Her role in this show might just be slightly autobiographical – following her much-publicized split from DeGeneres, Heche went on a bender that ended with police being called to remove her from a stranger’s home. She allegedly told police that she was “God and was going to take everyone back to heaven in a spaceship” according to a People story from September of 2000. So it seems she really does bring something special to the role.

It looks like Lifetime is planning their own version of a Tosh.0's web redemption* with Girl Fight. The new original, made for TV, movie tells true story of Victoria Lindsay, a (then) sixteen girl who was viciously assaulted by her 'friends' while they recorded the whole thing for... posterity?

Deadline reports that Anne Heche and James Tupper are attached to play Lindsay's parents (coincidentally enough, Heche and Tupper are actually together) in the film written by Benita Garvin and Teena Booth. Apparently, after making some flippant remarks about one of them on her MySpace page (oh no!), Victoria Lindsay was then accosted by her fellow cheerleaders and has been dealing with the fallout ever since. They say that payback's a bitch... in this case, payback is 8 bitches who accuse you, beat you and then upload the whole event to YouTube. So, payback is 8 stupid bitches.

*For those who don't know what the hell I'm talking about when I say Tosh.0 or web redemption... Tosh.0 is a show on Comedy Central that delivers the best, or worst, videos that can be found on the internet and a web redemption is a segment when one of the publicly ridiculed get to come on his show and make peace, get revenge or try and reclaim some dignity (often with the opposite result).

Isiah Whitlock Jr. has an acting career that stretches back to the late 80s and includes three separate Law & Order franchises, but for the last few years his fans could sum him up with a single, drawn-out expletive: "Sheeeee-it." Whitlock's role as Senator Clay Davis on The Wire earned him the love of that series's devoted fans who watched him play the corrupt, bribe-taking politician throughout the show's five seasons-- and as it turns out, one of those fans was the character Whitlock himself plays in the new comedy Cedar Rapids.

Whitlock swears the Wire in-jokes were written into the Cedar Rapids script before he was cast as the buttoned-up Midwestern insurance salesman Ronald Wilkes, a man for whom even pinstripe suits are probably too flashy. But it's hard to imagine a moment more perfect for Wire fans when Wilkes confesses to be a huge Wire fan or, late in the film, when he bails the gang out of a rough situation by pulling out a pitch-perfect impression of Omar. When I talked to him the day after Cedar Rapids's Sundance premiere, Whitlock said it wasn't hard to do the gangster impression, but to play such a straitlaced character in all the scenes that came before it, especially when acting against Ed Helms, John C. Reilly and Anne Heche in what he admits is a pretty out-there comedy. The four actors all play insurance salespeople at a conference in Cedar Rapids, the Iowa city that for these rural folk is definitely the big time.

Read below for my conversation with Whitlock about shooting in the crusty old motel at the heart of Cedar Rapids, real-life parties that were as creepy as the one they all go to in the movie, and how the freedom he had as an actor on The Wire isn't all that different from his work on this movie. Cedar Rapids opens this Friday.

How does the vibe to shooting a film on location compare to what we see in the movie? Are you just locked out there in a hotel like the characters are?

Yeah, I think it was an abandoned old hotel-- or if it wasn't abandoned it should have been. It was in December, the latter part of November, and I just remember it being very cold and very dreary at times.

And yet you're filming a comedy.

I know. But we needed one another, and we hung together, and in some way is think that added to the film, that we were able to develop a camaraderie and a rapport.

You have a background in comedy, but this is pretty far along the zany mark. Is this the most out-there comedy you've made?

I didn't think it was all that zany! But this has got to be by far the biggest one. But I think a lot of that zaniness comes out of those real moments. Even though they're zany, they're very honest. You say, "I can believe that would happen." I don't think we're asking anyone to take a huge stretch of the imagination.

I think we've all been to that kind of party out in the middle of nowhere, like you see near the end of the movie.

Tell me about it. It felt very familiar to me. Going to college in southern Minnesota, I went to a lot of parties like that. Especially as a black person, there weren't that many of them around. And the ones who were around were not all that different than the ones in the movie. I've been to parties and been in situations like that. I didn't get beat up or anything like that, but it did remind me of some years back.

And I also remember one time, I went to visit a friend in Amsterdam, and he took me to a place-- it was along the water and down underneath. I thought, OK, this is the way it's going to end. They're going to find my body floating in a river in Amsterdam. Everybody was just there being weird. I didn't ask too many questions. If you took that scene from the movie and just put it in Amsterdam 20 feet below ground, you pretty much had it.

This movie is so specific about being Cedar Rapids and the Midwest, but everyone kind of has a similar background. Everyone comes from an area like that. Is that something you connected to?

I think one of the reasons the film works so much, there's so many moments in the film that we can all relate to. It's like when you're in New York City, you get freaked out that somebody was actually born there, because nobody's from there. I'm sure when they got to New York City their experiences may not have been all that different from Tim Lippe's.

When I went to San Francisco for the first time in 1975, I went there for a summer, this acting training program for three months in the summer-- I've never been the same. I had a little yellow Volkswagen and I drove out there-- I ate McDonald's the whole way, and when I got to Reno, Nevada I was ready to kill myself. But San Francisco, it was the whole serious hippie culture. And I had heard about hippies, but I didn't know they really existed, that people actually did stuff like that. This all of a sudden was my world, and it was a huge education.

You're doing some fun playing against type, and then there's all the Wire jokes playing off your buttoned up character in this movie. There's so many layers in the character.

The hard thing was keeping everything cleaned up and straight. There were a couple of times they had to pull me back, and said, "You're having too much fun." And that's OK. Miguel was great at not letting me get too far off kilter. As long as I was honest with the script and honest with what I had to do, I was fine. I really needed to develop that character to really make people be shocked by it in the film. When people laugh at [the Wire joke] in the film, they're just so surprised. That's the last thing you think this guy is going to do, channel Omar Little from The Wire.

The Wire seems to have stuck with you for the last few years. How has that changed the kind of work you've been doing?

It hasn't really changed, not all that much. One thing I found with that character, one of the things that happened was I finally got the freedom to do what I wanted to do. They kind of let me do that. I was able to craft and shape a character that nobody had ever seen before. Nobody had ever seen anything like that character.

What kind of freedom did you have that you didn't before?

Nobody ever came in and said, Isaiah, we think the Senator needs to be like this. The more freedom they gave me the more I was able to say, okay, this is how I think this guy should be played, who he is, what he should be. So I just kind of ran with it. It was kind of weird, because I kept waiting for somebody to say, Isaiah, you're going to have to change this or do something else. On [Cedar Rapids] I felt the same thing. "We trust what you bring to this, we trust the kind of guy that you're shaping here." And I think that's what makes the ending work so well, it comes out of nowhere, based on the fact that you're able to set it up. It just doesn't become a joke about The Wire, it's the only thing that's going to get us out of that madhouse.
