Star Trek: Strange New Worlds just premiered on the 2026 TV schedule, but the fun doesn't stop there. That's what stars Rebecca Romijn and Anson Mount believe, anyway, as the two stars and childhood fans of the franchise have me convinced we'll be watching new franchise entries via Paramount+ subscription before too long.

Before Rebecca Romijn moves on to reprise her role as Mystique in the Marvel universe, I had a chance to speak to her and Mount ahead of the Season 4 premiere of Strange New Worlds, which is currently streaming on Paramount+. When I asked the stars whether they could say anything to ease the minds of fans worried about what's next for Star Trek, seeing as no shows are in active development, she said this:

In no way does she sound worried about the future of Star Trek, and feels confident it'll still be around years from now, and as she mentioned above, it'll continue to be relevant to new generations.

Anson Mount agreed, and dropped a fact that blew my mind in the process. He couldn't claim it as his own, but I appreciated him passing it along during the interview all the same:

Translation: Star Trek is as American as apple pie. Perhaps more so, because apple pie actually originated in England. I guess the math does check out that if America is celebrating its 250th birthday, and Trek its 60th, that is somewhere in the ballpark of 25%.

Rebecca Romijn and Anson Mount's thoughts echo those of other prominent names of Star Trek, many of whom don't believe it will ever fully go away. I tend to agree, especially with Paramount still making efforts to bring it back to the big screen with a movie on the big screen.

Star Trek will continue, but I think there are solid fears from fans about how it will continue. How long will fans have to wait for a new television series, and who will be put in charge of making it happen? As it stands, it seems the company is ready to move on from Alex Kurtzman running its television department, leaving the door open for fresh blood to take the reins. Kurtzman did tell CinemaBlend a while back that fans shouldn't fear this transition period, merely because there's just so much Paramount has to tackle to complete its merger with Warner Bros. Discovery.

All this to say, it doesn't sound like anyone in charge is worried about Star Trek ending. So we'll continue to play the waiting game and remain optimistic that positive updates on the franchise are on the way. If you're a Star Trek fan, 'tis the season for reading the farewell posts of the Strange New Worlds cast. From Celia Rose Gooding twerking on the Captain's Chair to the final cast photo featuring a bearded Spock, we've gotten a lot of content from the set about the final weeks of filming, even if boughs of holly haven't been quite as prominent.

As we look ahead to the 2026 TV schedule and more Trek, Anson Mount chronicled the final scene of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds on Instagram. While readers won't be able to stream it with a Paramount+ subscription for quite some time, I can feel the gravitas of its significance in Mount's words, as he commemorated the moment with a farewell to his role as Captain Pike:

I can't help but feel like the white sheet over Captain Pike's desk was done for dramatic effect, but I like the way it commemorates a death of sorts for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. I prefer this tribute compared to the pictures of actors' trailer doors that I've seen in other farewell posts. That said, maybe it's a privilege of being at the top of the call sheet to share a photo from the final season's set.

To dive a bit deeper into Anson Mount's comments, I would wager that the fact that Akiva Goldsman yelled "cut" would mean that the co-showrunner directed the series finale of the acclaimed series. That's not a huge surprise considering Goldsman directed episodes previously, though I did wonder if Jonathan Frakes or another director would be granted that honor.

Anson Mount taking a photo of Pike's desk is interesting, though, as I know Goldsman told CinemaBlend his ideal finale was to chronicle Kirk's first day as Captain of the Enterprise. Was this photo chosen simply because it was a familiar setting for the character in the series, or is Pike still running the Enterprise in the series finale?

I also have to bring up the possibility that the white sheet over the desk could be a symbolic hint that we're going to see Pike's tragic accident. Putting a white sheet over someone is typically reserved for the deceased, however, and that wouldn't apply in that scenario. Pike survived his accident, though he would be severely debilitated after. Still, I couldn't help but think of that when I initially saw the image. Ugh, it's going to be hard to wait for this final season, though I am happy it's still a ways away.

Before we get to the final season, Season 4 of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is coming to Paramount+ in 2026. I'm eager to see how those upcoming episodes will set the stage for the final season, and obviously, how the final season could set up any potential follow-up series.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is set to air Season 4 during the 2026 TV schedule, but the Paramount+ series has been filming the fifth and final season in the back half of 2025. During that time, the cast has been busy saying their farewells, and Anson Mount revealed the incredible parting gift that Jess Bush gave her castmates.

Captain Pike and Nurse Chapel haven't had a ton of screentime together during Strange New Worlds, but that doesn't mean the two stars haven't developed a bond as they filmed the show. So, Mount shared the gift Bush gave the cast, and as a Star Trek fan, I'm pretty jealous, because I would love this:

What a special gift for the Star Trek: Strange New Worlds cast! I bet more than a few Trekkies would pay to add it to their own collections. However, if it never goes on sale, fans can get a similar experience by browsing Bush's Instagram page, which is loaded with great behind-the-scenes photos.

That said, I love the curated photo collection Jess Bush compiled. I'm torn between which pages are my favorite, because I'm stuck between the ones dedicated to cast members falling asleep in their chairs and the adorable pictures of Christina Chong's dog, Runa. Had the pet gotten more screentime in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, La'an probably would've bumped up a few notches on the best Trek characters list.

As fun as this post is, I am struck by the painful reminder that Star Trek: Strange New Worlds will be coming to an end. The truncated final season is a bit of a bummer, though a blessing considering that Paramount+ wanted to close out the show with a streaming movie instead. Season 5 will presumably give us much more content than we would've had with a movie.

In the meantime, it's worth mentioning again that we still have to get through Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 4. The showrunners promised CinemaBlend that the upcoming episodes would have a more serious tone than Season 3, which may come as a relief to some who criticized the amount of comedy in the 2025 run.

Of course, the end goal for many Star Trek fans is some assurance that Strange New Worlds will continue in some way after it ends. It's no secret that many, including the showrunners, have campaigned for a follow-up that shows Kirk's first year leading the Enterprise, in an attempt to bridge the gap to the original series further. There's no word yet on whether it will happen, but who knows what a new year could bring in the way of announcements?

Overall, I'm ready to see Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 4 arrive sometime in 2026, and I will watch past episodes on Paramount+ in the meantime while we wait for the last two seasons. I'm also psyched for the arrival of Starfleet Academy in January, which isn't that far off!

While Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 4 still won't be available with a Paramount+ subscription until sometime in the 2026 TV schedule, the cast and crew are already hard at work on the final, abbreviated season. It's a lot of long hours and night shoots to get it done, so it's no wonder Anson Mount is so exhausted in his latest video.

The lead of Strange New Worlds posted a video to Instagram recently that showcased the time he and others are putting in during the holiday season to ensure fans get the final season of the acclaimed Star Trek series. Listen to him describe the shoots, and note how tired he looks throughout the whole video:

They may be the ramblings of an actor in an airport operating on four hours of sleep, but there's a lot of passion in what he said. Rather than grumbling about a flight home to see his wife and daughters for a day before returning back to film Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, he's grateful. He considered it a privilege to be in a position to travel home at all tand be exhausted by a job he's passionate about.

I believe Anson Mount loves his job, especially given that he grew up a fan of Star Trek and was thrilled to be playing Captain Pike. Hell, he would've been jazzed to play Captain Lorca in Discovery, having first auditioned for that character before he ultimately got what was originally a one-off Season 2 role. Then he was asked to lead a spinoff, which became Strange New Worlds.

It's good to see Mount putting in work in the final season, especially since some thought actor Paul Wesley could replace the actor as lead when James T. Kirk becomes captain of the Enterprise. Star Trek: Strange New Worlds' showrunners said that their ultimate vision for the series finale was to capture Kirk's first day on the job, and Pike's tragic accident didn't happen until Kirk was in charge of the Enterprise for some time.

As such, I can imagine he'll be in the bulk of the final episodes, if not all of them. After that, who knows when or even if we'll see Anson Mount in Star Trek again, but it always feels like no actor connected to this franchise is ever gone for good. If nothing else, hopefully we'll continue to see him on the convention circuit once the show is over and share his memories and stories he wouldn't share while the show is still going on.

Keep an eye out for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 4 as we roll into 2026, and be prepared for the premiere of Starfleet Academy on Paramount+ on January 15th. The new year could be a big year for the science fiction franchise, so here's hoping that by this time next year, we're celebrating its successes and more announcements for new Trek shows.

Seemingly no celebrity is ever safe from the Marvel rumor mill, and while some actors lean into unfounded speculation about their involvement in future MCU projects, it doesn't look like Star Trek: Strange New Worlds' Anson Mount is one of those people. The actor shared a sassy response to a social media post claiming he'd be reprising his Inhumans character for an upcoming project, and his reaction gave me massive relief as a fan of his Captain Pike.

The actor was suffering no fools when he spotted a tweet from a popular (though unofficial) Marvel X account, which alleged Mount's Black Bolt and other Inhumans characters who debuted in the panned ABC series would be returning for Avengers: Secret Wars. It seemed like an odd rumor, given the past speculation the film would serve as a soft reboot for the MCU, but it gained traction all the same. That is until Anson Mount saw it and fired off the following in response: 

It feels like a pretty definitive denial from Anson Mount, who was previously clear about where he stood with Black Bolt after his surprise return for Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness. Still, it's good to hear that he hasn't changed his mind in the interim, especially for those eager to see him in upcoming Star Trek shows. 

Anson Mount Is Already On Board For Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 4

Anson Mount only recently wrapped production on Season 3 of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, which is due in 2025. Paramount+ also renewed the fan-fave for Season 4, which means his time as Captain Pike will likely continue again for at least one more season. 

If Mount had to juggle being the Captain in Strange New Worlds Season 4 and duties on a Marvel Avengers movie, I would imagine it could reduce his screen time in the former by quite a bit. Star Trek: Discovery fans already faced a similar situation when actor Doug Jones missed much of Season 5 due to obligations with the Hocus Pocus 2 press tour.

I can't imagine Strange New Worlds without Pike, at least until the Captain finally has his fated accident. Until then, though, I want as much as possible.

We Don't Need More Of The Inhumans In The MCU

Readers may not remember just how ill-received The Inhumans series was, having shut those memories behind mental bricks. But a simple sign of proof is how few Inhumans are currently in the MCU, despite the group sporting a notable presence throughout Marvel Comics. We're talking about a series that was so panned Marvel executives wouldn't allow The Eternals movie to film in Hawaii, in part so that audiences wouldn't compare the two projects. 

Despite that, Marvel did allow Anson Mount to return as Black Bolt in the second Doctor Strange movie, but he died pretty quickly after. The minimal appearance felt like enough closure for the character, so I have trouble believing Avengers: Secret Wars would include Mount and others, even if it was just as a way to get new fans to watch the one-season series with a Disney+ subscription. (Okay maybe that scenario sounds plausible.)

Considering the MCU is already struggling to maintain its footing with its latest phases, I can't say it'd be a priority for Kevin Feige to bolster one of its marquee sequels with the cast of a show that flopped as hard as anything the studio has released to date. We shall see, though, because Anson Mount could be taking us all for a ride to throw us off the scent!

While I tend to take Anson Mount as his word he won't be returning to the MCU, I'm definitely keeping an eye out on what other unexpected Marvel heroes could return in future projects. Fun cameos will be great to see in Avengers: Secret Wars, though I'm not sure the Inhumans are the best place to start.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds appears on many top TV lists of 2023 and, considering all the risks the series took that paid off in Season 2, I'm not surprised. Of course, some decisions may live on in infamy with sections of the fandom, as the first musical episode caused a bit of debate, specifically due to the Klingons bursting into a brief K-Pop song and dance number. Now, on the heels of an alternate scene surfacing, Anson Mount is going to bat for the silliness and justifying why it was the only option for "Subspace Rhapsody." 

Anson Mount and other members of the Star Trek: Strange New Worlds cast participated in a Q&A in support of the SAG-AFTRA foundation and talked quite a bit about Season 2. CinemaBlend previously learned from director Dermott Downs that there were mixed opinions about the Klingon scene. And in this latest chat, Mount added some additional context regarding just how much convincing it took to sell others on the idea of Klingons singing K-Pop:

Since Season 2's run concluded, the alternate cut Anson Mount described above has been released via the physical media release. As someone who still isn't the biggest fan of the K-Pop Klingon moment, I will concede that the opera scene doesn't quite convey the embarrassment of the Klingons in the same way. As such, I can learn to live with the original scene in "Subspace Rhapsody," especially seeing as myself and other Paramount+ subscription holders can't change how we view it when rewatching the installment.

With Strange New Worlds Season 3 currently in production alongside other upcoming Trek shows, fans may be less concerned about Klingon dance numbers and more eager to know when we'll get the follow-up to the massive Season 2 cliffhanger. Unfortunately, now that the filming schedule for SNW Season 3 has been revealed through reports, it's looking like that next chapter may not arrive until late 2024 or sometime in 2025 at the earliest. 

If there's any upside, it would be that a number of fans were apparently fine with the Klingon moment, and I'd say the negative responses likely won't deter the show's creative team from continuing to push the envelope in the upcoming season. I may not agree with every decision made, but I certainly prefer that a show take risks as opposed to playing it safe and becoming stale.

Watch Seasons 1 and 2 of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds on Paramount+ right now. Now might be as good as a time as any to rewatch "Subspace Rhapsody," as it feels like one of the more festive episodes of the series that could loosely be associated with the holiday season. (I would certainly recommend it over something darker like "Under The Cloak Of War" for sure!) 

Star Trek Day is back again, and the franchise's powers that be are celebrating by boosting awareness of one of its most acclaimed shows, and giving those who don't have a Paramount+ subscription access to the OG timeline with Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. The spinoff is set to make its network TV debut via CBS, allowing just about anyone to enjoy a taste of Starfleet's throwback adventures, not to mention Anson Mount's much-discussed hair game as Pike, in addition to other activities happening throughout the day.

When Star Trek Day arrives on September 8th, CBS will be airing the first two hour-long episodes of Strange New Worlds' first season back-to-back, starting at 8:00 p.m. ET and PT. While some shows take a while to get invested in, SNW was an instant attention-grabber, so this limited offering may well be enough to convince a few on-the-fence consumers to sign on in order to check out the rest of the season. 

The first episode, "Strange New Worlds," re-introduces the audience to Captain Christopher Pike, who returns to Starfleet after some time away, hoping to cope with the gruesome fate that he learned he'll be facing someday. The episode perfectly showcases the type of action and adventure to expect from the show, and viewers get a great introduction to what the fandom has dubbed "Pike's Peak." 

Not that his 'do is the only celebratory thing about Mount's performance, but here's a photo of the hairstyle from the episode, anyway. I have to admit, I am envious that he's able to get it to stand up so well. 

Episode 2 "Children of the Comet," follows up on the pilot ep with a definite tonal shift, providing the first example of just how great Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is at easily shifting genres. Plus, viewers will be treated to Celia Rose Gooding's performance as Uhura, to see how much she rocks as a successor to Nichelle Nichols' iconic run as the character. 

Many Star Trek fans have already seen Strange New Worlds Season 1, of course, so the franchise has other surprises in store for the big day. Cities around the United States, Canada, and the U.K. can register to be take part in enjoying an evening of Lower Decks episodes on the big screen, spliced in with sneak peeks at other shows and giveaways. The event website has more information for anyone interested in attending. 

Those celebrating Star Trek Day at home still have plenty to be excited about. A special program hosted by Lower Decks star Jerry O'Connell is planned and will run through the entire franchise's greatest moments and even honor Discovery ahead of its final season in 2024. There will also be a sneak-peek clip at the upcoming season of Lower Decks, and I wouldn't be surprised if there were other surprises about upcoming Trek shows revealed as well. It's a celebration, after all, and Pike's hair will be the perfectly quaffed icing on a cake, hopefully, less horrifying than the one Deanna Troi was turned into.

Space may be the final frontier, but Star Trek: Strange New Worlds star Anson Mount has gone one further and travelled across the multiverse. He reprised his role of Black Bolt for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and fans are probably wondering what’s going on with the Inhumans cast member’s future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Well, the man himself actually had something to say and, while it won’t melt any minds, it might break some hearts. 

Speaking with Radio Times on behalf of the second season to the Star Trek prequel series, the 50-year-old actor used his voice to give an update on Black Bolt’s status. Here’s what the man who gave Captain Christopher Pike such awesome hair had to say: 

On one hand, it’s not a flat-out rejection, and there’s something to be said about Anson Mount having “informal conversations” on the matter. It’s something that might comfort those wondering what’s happening with the Inhumans as, when we last saw Black Bolt in last year’s Doctor Strange sequel, he kind of lost his voice… and his entire head. 

Which, quite frankly, might have some Marvel fans feeling like this clip of Whoopi Goldberg in Soapdish. Aptly enough, this moment also features a conversation with Robert Downey Jr. about the flexibility of character deaths, so please enjoy:

However, that assumption would be rather moot, as the Marvel Cinematic Universe has that aforementioned multiverse to fall back on. And just as we saw with Patrick Stewart, John Krasinski, and the rest of the Illuminati, you can use the power of variants to either bring back old favorites or test out fan-cast leads in roles we won’t see for years to come. 

So truly anything is possible, despite what happened to Anson Mount’s leather-clad hero on screen. But where is the actor’s interest level in returning yet again to a character he originated years ago? With the failed launch of the Inhumans series on ABC in 2017, surely there must have been something that appealed to Mount to bring him back after the property was pushed out of the MCU's Phase 3 plans.  Whatever that special something was, it appears that it’s still present, as he added  these remarks:

So not only do we know the star would go back to the role of Black Bolt quite quickly, he’d also do it with his Doctor Strange 2 costume if he was given the choice. That’s dedication, especially if it means that Blackagar Boltagon will remain relatively silent in any future appearances. Although that is a bit of variety from his recent duties on Star Trek: Strange New Worlds,  including the musical episode “Subspace Rhapsody,” which currently has a trailer.

If you don’t want to miss a minute of the deep space exploration, high notes and all, you’ll want to keep up with Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. Season 2 is currently rolling out for those who have a Paramount+ subscription and, if you’re new to the game, Season 1 is available in its entirety. Thankfully, there’s no musical storyline involving Black Bolt at the moment, as the casualties involved would undoubtedly require an R-rating. You can also revisit Bolt's brutal moment in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness using a Disney+ subscription.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds promised more of Paul Wesley's James T. Kirk in Season 2, but I think it's fair to say he's popped up a bit more than some (including myself) expected. The latest appearance showcased the first meeting between Kirk, Spock, and Uhura, which is obviously an extremely important lore moment, considering they're part of the core crew of Star Trek's original series. Parts of the fandom have become antsy, knowing Kirk will replace Pike in an official capacity at some point in the future, given these characters' canonical history, so CinemaBlend decided to ask Wesley about Kirk's future with all of the above in mind. 

I spoke to Paul Wesley ahead of the SAG-AFTRA strike, and we discussed how the meeting of Spock, Uhura, and Kirk could be seen as a precursor to an eventual re-imagining of Star Trek: The Original Series, or for Kirk to rise up and take Pike's job on Strange New Worlds when the latter vacates the position. Wesley said anyone getting nervous about seeing more of him and less of Anson Mount's leader shouldn't worry, because the trio's meeting wasn't a sign of the future, but one with nostalgic ties. In his words: 

Paul Wesley feels confident that Paramount+ is in no rush to move on from Star Trek: Strange New Worlds' current status quo, given how well things have already gone. So while we've seen Kirk heavily featured in multiple Season 2 episodes thus far, and will seemingly have a role to play in the musical episode, the ship will remain Pike's Enterprise in the foreseeable future for those watching with a Paramount+ subscription.

Even if James T. Kirk won't become the captain of the Enterprise on Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, that's not to say we won't ever see Paul Wesley's iteration of the iconic character earning the title. Wesley wants to play Kirk for a long time if the opportunity stays available, and he reassured me that if any such spinoff is offered to him down the line, he's willing and ready to be a part of it.

It's good to hear that Paul Wesley is up for portraying Kirk in whatever upcoming Trek series might be conceived, even if there are no plans in the works at this time. The actor did mention to CinemaBlend previously that he'd heard about the Kirk reference made in Picard Season 3, so even if his portrayal of Kirk only lives on via fun cameos of that nature, assuming Star Trek: Legacy gets greenlit at some point, we'd take it in a heartbeat. 

Until then, Anson Mount's Pike will remain the lead on Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, and I think that's what many fans want to hear. The Hell on Wheels vet is quickly establishing himself as one of the franchise's most-beloved captains, and that's really saying something, given the slew of talent we've seen in that role in past decades. Wesley's time as Captain will hopefully come, but perhaps that's something we won't be revisiting until the current TOS-era series is at an end.

Star Trek fans are doing what they can to try and save the animated series Prodigy from its cancellation at Paramount+. The series will no longer be available to those with a Paramount+ subscription in the near future, and for those without any kind of physical media release, it could potentially be lost forever unless another network purchases the show. The situation has pushed many into action, and even Strange New Worlds star Anson Mount is using his platform to help spread the word. 

Just two days after news of Star Trek: Prodigy's cancellation hit the internet, there's a petition to save the show with over 11,000 signatures attached. There's hope that another network or streaming service will pick up the show, and that we'll get to see the soon-to-be-completed Season 2 and maybe even future seasons beyond that. 

Season 2 was originally slated to release on Parmount+ during the winter and, according to recent reports, is still in the throes of post-production. Fans have questioned why Paramount isn't just leaving the series on the service until Season 2 airs, as well as why it's shopping the show around whenever Paramount+ has been touted so heavily as being the home of Star Trek. Anson Mount seemingly jived with that statement as he amplified that exact take on Twitter in what seems to be a show of solidarity:

While stars and creatives adding their voices to the conversation is a big plus, fans know that it will take a bigger effort to prove to Paramount (and anyoine who may pick up Star Trek: Prodigy in the future) that the show is loved. The ten-episode Season 1 set available to purchase on Blu-ray is said to be getting harder and harder to find due to fans putting their money into the mix as much as their social media support.  

Executive producer Aaron J. Waltke shared the good news with fans, who are apparently buying it wherever they can find it.

Star Trek fans are seemingly going even harder on support than what followed the announcement that Discovery was ending, but there's a very good reason why. When Discovery's fate was revealed, Paramount+ granted the producers additional funds and time to film a proper series conclusion. Additionally, Discovery will likely remain on Paramount+ after concluding, as has been the case with all other completed Trek shows, which isn't the case here.

Star Trek: Prodigy is being removed from Paramount+ without a total physical release of Season 1, seeing as the final ten episodes have yet to make it to Blu-ray or DVD. On top of that, if a new studio or service doesn't step up, then fans will seemingly just never get to see Season 2, barring a change in direction from Paramount+ execs. The stakes are high, which may be why fans are feeling so fervent in spreading the word. 

One would speculate, however, that the outlook for Star Trek: Prodigy's eventual purchase is better than most. It's a major franchise show made by acclaimed showrunners Kevin and Dan Hageman, and it has an entire season that hasn't been seen before. And, if the scores of fans buying half of Season 1 on Blu-ray is any indication, there's a market for the show. Of course, nothing is certain, so we'll have to wait and see which streaming service or network will pick up the former Paramount+ series. 

For now, Star Trek: Prodigy is available to stream on Paramount+. We'll see what updates arrive in the coming weeks about a potential new home and what other Paramount shows could be on the chopping block as well. 

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds has a lot of obvious nods to the original series, seeing as Captain Pike's Enterprise crew served on the ship not long before Captain Kirk took over. There are obvious recurring characters like Spock and Uhura, but those with a Paramount+ subscription may not be aware of every way the original series influenced the hit show. CinemaBlend learned one key acting trick star Anson Mount picked up from William Shatner after seeing him as Kirk in the Captain's chair. 

CinemaBlend spoke to the cast of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, and when I asked Anson Mount and Rebecca Romijn if they had any signature moves akin to Jonathan Frakes' Riker maneuver, I learned something very interesting from Mount. The actor shared that one of Pike's common mannerisms came from watching William Shatner and how a cool Captain's chair pose worked as an acting tool: 

Well, it looks like I'm going to be staring at Anson Mount's hand while he's in the Captain's chair from now until the end of the series! It's cool to see he picked up on something like that from William Shatner, especially since I haven't noticed it from him either after watching the original Star Trek. If you aren't already doing so, now is the time to start paying attention to the body language of characters in shows!

Anson Mount might've based some of his character's body language as Pike on William Shatner's Kirk, but he's certainly come into his own in playing a Star Trek Captain. Despite Paul Wesley's debut at the end of Season 1 and return as James Kirk in Season 2, Mount has confirmed the Enterprise is still Pike's ship for the foreseeable future. 

It's possible that Kirk and Pike will cross paths in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 2, given that Kirk is seen with both La'an and Uhura in the trailer for the season. Kirk and Pike aren't seen in any scenes together in the footage we've seen so far, but that doesn't mean it won't happen:

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 2 will feature Klingons, what appears to be modern-day Canada, and even Spock in the Captain's chair. Here's hoping the season will live up to the hype that the stars like Melissa Navia have been teasing for the past year. With a Lower Decks crossover on the way, it's hard not to buy into the hype. Honestly, I could watch that clip of Jack Quaid's Boimler stammering to Spock all day. 

Stream the premiere of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 2 on Paramount+ beginning on Thursday, June 15th. 2023 has already been a great year for the franchise, and there are still upcoming Trek shows on the way. 

Star Trek has returned to the forefront of sci-fi television thanks to all the original series on Paramount+, starting with Star Trek: Discovery and expanding to include Picard, Lower Decks, Prodigy, and Strange New Worlds. While there are certainly connections between the series, the announcement that the critically-acclaimed Strange New Worlds would cross over with the animated Lower Decks came as a surprise, and two stars recently shared their initial reactions to the news. 

Anson Mount and Ethan Peck – who play Captain Christopher Pike and Science Officer Spock, respectively, on Strange New Worlds – participated in a Star Trek panel at FAN EXPO Cleveland. While the wait is still on to see how Strange New Worlds and Lower Decks worlds collide after the crossover was first announced in 2022, the stars recalled their original thoughts, which were very different. Mount shared:

Considering that Strange New Worlds is live-action and Lower Decks is animated, picturing a Star Trek take on Who Framed Roger Rabbit makes a lot of sense! That movie famously incorporated cartoons into scenes also featuring actors in the flesh. While Anson Mount of course didn't drop all the spoilers about what's on the way, he did confirm that once he got some extra info from co-showrunner/co-creator Akiva Goldsman, he was on board with the "brilliant" idea. 

For his part, Ethan Peck evidently didn't originally think that the crossover could be Goldsman's "worst idea," but saw the upside of doing something that has certainly never been done before in the Star Trek franchise. The Spock actor said:

The crossover between Strange New Worlds and Lower Decks will feature the usually animated Beckett Mariner and Brad Boimler, although they'll be played in live-action by voice actors Tawny Newsome and Jack Quad. It's still not clear how the episode will make the timeline work, given that Strange New World is set more than a century before Lower Decks, but it's safe to say that this will not simply be the Star Trek version of Who Framed Roger Rabbit. Plus, Lower Decks showrunner Mike McMahan previously spoke with CinemaBlend about his contributions to the crossover, even though the episode will technically be one of Strange New Worlds. 

The Strange New Worlds and Lower Decks worlds colliding is set to be part of SNW Season 2, which is also set to bring back The Vampire Diaries alum Paul Wesley to portray the young version of James Kirk himself. No premiere date has been announced for Paramount+ subscribers to start planning ahead just yet, but with teases of what's ahead combined with questions that we're hoping the show will answer after how Season 1 ended, there should be plenty to look forward to. 

All things considered, Star Trek fans who attended FAN EXPO Cleveland got some fun insight from Anson Mount and Ethan Peck on March 24 as opening day of the convention. On March 25, Peck will be on hand for photo ops, on top of all the other programming available for attendees, which includes panels for Shazam! featuring Zachary Levi and Jack Dylan Gazer, The Mandalorian with Emily Swallow, and The Office with Leslie David Baker, Kate Flannery, and Oscar Nunez, to name just some. Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is just one of several Trek shows returning in 2023, but it’s fair to say it’s also one of the most anticipated. Season 1 received widespread acclaim for its bold and inventive storytelling approaches, and the cast has claimed that the second season raises the stakes even higher. Now, Anson Mount is really upping the ante by making a truly unbelievable claim about Season 2. And while I can't truly wrap my head around it, I’m still excited all the same to be proven wrong. 

Anson Mount was one of many Star Trek guests who participated in Trek*talks 2 over the weekend. During the event, the previously announced crossover between Strange New Worlds and Lower Decks became a topic of discussion. The sheer idea of the live-action and animated series having a mash-up is totally bonkers on its own. However, according to Mount, it doesn't top something else that the cast and crew filmed for the upcoming season (via TrekMovie): 

What could Star Trek: Strange New Worlds possibly have filmed that's “crazier” than a hybrid live-action and animated crossover with Jack Quaid and Tawny Newsome of Lower Decks? It could be massive but, until I actually see it, I just can’t believe that anything in Season 2 could be wilder than the Lower Decks crossover

With that being said, Anson Mount is the same star who predicted that Star Trek: Strange New Worlds would be well-received when a number of fans had reservations. CinemaBlend also spoke to actresses Christina Chong and Melissa Navia, who both confirmed that Season 2 really took things to the next level. Not that I’d expect the stars of their shows to badmouth the series and drive down Paramount+ subscription numbers but, if this is true, then what exactly are fans in for? 

Besides the crossover, we do know that actor Paul Wesley's role as James T. Kirk will be expanded. It's also been revealed that legendary actress Carol Kane will join the cast as the new chief engineer. And given some of her past roles, there's a chance there could be some quirkiness with her character, which should make things interesting. 

Regardless of what’s on the way, it’s safe to say that Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 2 has a high bar to clear. We’ll have to wait and see if it can deliver on some of the hype the cast has set up. I'm a bit skeptical but definitely excited to see if Anson Mount's wild claim turns out to be true.

There have been numerous Star Trek TV shows for Paramount+ subscribers to enjoy in 2022, including the first season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. Arriving three years after Anson Mount debuted as Christopher Pike in Star Trek: Discovery Season 2, Strange New Worlds follows Pike and the crew of the USS Enterprise more than half a decade before the events of Star Trek: The Original Series. Strange New Worlds Season1 was met with critical acclaim, and with Season 2 coming out in 2023, Mount has talked about how he and the rest of the cast and crew are “going for the rafters” in this next batch of episodes.

Although the final episodes of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 1 planted a few seeds for plot threads to bloom in Season 2, we haven’t been told much about what to expect story-wise from Season 2. That being said, Anson Mount made it clear to Collider that Season 2 will be kicking things up several notches from what Season 1 had to offer, saying:

While Anson Mount kept tight-lipped on how exactly he and his fellow Star Trek: Strange New Worlds reach said rafters in Season 2, earlier in the interview, he compared this upcoming season to Season 1 by saying it’s like “Christopher Guest in Spinal Tap, discovering that these knobs all go up to 11.” I never thought there’d come a day when Star Trek and 1984’s This Is Spinal Tap would come up in the same sentence like this, but it certainly paints a unique picture about Season 2 is raising the bar. After calling Strange New Worlds showrunners Akira Goldsman and Henry Alonso “courageous,” Mount stated the following about how the show is pushing the envelope:

Anson Mount will be joined by all of the other main cast members from Star Trek: Strange New Worlds except for Bruce Horak, whose character Hemmer died in the episode “All Those Who Wander” (although Horak informed CinemaBlend that we’ll be seeing more of him in the Star Trek franchise). As far as newcomers go, the only person who’s been announced so far is Carol Kane’s Pelia, the Enterprise’s new chief engineer. We’ll also be seeing more of Paul Wesley’s James T. Kirk following his debut as an older version of the character from an alternate timeline in “A Quality of Mercy,” and it was announced at San Diego Comic-Con that Star Trek: Lower Decks actors Tawny Newsome and Jack Quaid will appear in live action as their characters Beckett Mariner and Brad Boimler in a Strange New Worlds Season 2 episode.

Created by comic book heavyweights Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, the Inhumans are one of the more unusual groups of characters in the Marvel universe, but definitely not without their share of fans. With the main Royal Family consisting of Black Bolt, Medusa, Gorgon, Karnak, Crystal, Triton, Lockjaw and Maximus the Mad, these characters, and others of their kind, are born with special DNA that allows them to physically evolve and/or develop special powers when exposed to the Terrigen Mists. The Inhumans have been adapted in other media, but when it comes to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, their standing is more complicated.

While there once was a time when the Inhumans were being positioned as major players as in the MCU, their standing nowadays is significantly more tenuous. So do these characters have a bright future ahead of them in this franchise, or will they be relegated to the shadows?That’s what we’re here to discuss, but before that, let’s go over what we’ve seen of the Inhumans in live-action so far. 

What’s Happened With The Inhumans So Far In The MCU

As far as official Marvel Studios productions go, our only dive into Inhuman lore has been through Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which featured Anson Mount’s Black Bolt as a member of Earth-838’s Illuminati. This Black Bolt was described by that Earth’s Mordo as the “keeper of the Terrigen Mists” and the “Inhuman King,” but sadly he met a messy end when Earth-616’s Wanda Maximoff made his mouth disappear, causing him to scream in panic using his powerful voice and vaporize his own skull. At one time there had been plans for the Inhumans to get their own movie, but those were later scrapped.

Now if we’re talking about general MCU continuity, then the Inhumans have been around for a lot longer than that. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. brought them into the fold in its second season, with Chloe Bennett’s Daisy Johnson and many other important characters in the series boasting special abilities after going through Terrigenesis. The Inhuman Royal Family then led their own series, which is where Anson Mount first played Black Bolt. However, that show was met with mostly negative critical reception and was cancelled after just one season.

Given that the now-defunct Marvel Television was behind Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Inhumans, and those creative endeavors were run separately from what Marvel Studios cooked up, their placement within official MCU continuity is questionable at best. You’re certainly welcome to imagine those shows as taking place on another Earth, but if we’re looking strictly at Earth-616, i.e. where most of the Marvel Studios tales have unfolded, then technically we still haven’t seen an Inhuman. 

Why The Inhumans Might Not Be A Priority For The MCU

First off, it’s important to note that the MCU is in a much different place now compared to when Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Inhumans pulled from this corner of Marvel lore. At the time, 20th Century Fox was still a separate film entity that held the film rights to the X-Men and Fantastic Four, and Marvel Comics was spotlighting the Inhuman mythology through the ‘NuHuman era,’ where scores of new Inhumans popped up around the world as a result of a Terrigenesis Bomb being detonated at the end of the Infinity event. Because the MCU didn’t have access to mutants at the time, the franchise opted to follow the comics’ footsteps and use Inhumans in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. essentially as the MCU’s mutant fill-ins. But as already made clear in the previous section, we never saw an Inhuman in any of the Marvel movies during Phases 1-3.

By 2019, Disney acquired Fox, thus finally giving Marvel Studios access to the X-Men and Fantastic Four. In Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, we also met Earth-838’s versions of Mister Fantastic and Professor X, and the Fantastic Four and X-Men will lead their own adventures in the main MCU reality in the coming years. So now that mutants are on the table, there’s no need to use Inhumans as a substitute for people with the genetic makeup to naturally gain special abilities. 

Which brings us to Ms. Marvel, which dropped a major bombshell concerning Iman Vellani’s version of Kamala Khan in its finale. In the comics, Kamala developed shapeshifting abilities when she went through Terregenesis, but in the episode “No Normal,” Kamala’s friend Bruno informed her that the reason she was able to get her hard light-constructing powers and not the rest of her family was because of some type of “mutation” in her genes. So right there, we know for a fact that Kamala is not an Inhuman in the MCU, and Sana Amanat, the character’s co-creator, even told Empire that she’d originally wanted to make Kamala a mutant in the comics.

Kamala Khan could have been an easy entry point for folks who only watch MCU projects and missed out on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Inhumans to be exposed to this colorful corner of Marvel lore, but that ship has sailed. It’s become abundantly clear over the years that the increased spotlight on the Inhumans in the comics was more of a corporate mandate, and nowadays this group of characters doesn’t get nearly as much attention. There was even a miniseries published called The Death of the Inhumans which ended with the Royal Family and a scattering of others being the only Inhumans left active on Earth. Between all that, plus the eventual arrival of the main X-Men team in the MCU and meeting the franchise’s Eternals last year, there’s a lot of ground covered that make the Inhumans unnecessary.

Why There Might Still Be Hope For The Inhumans’ MCU Future

Even with all of the above points working against the Inhumans, I wouldn’t necessarily count never seeing them have a prominent platform in the MCU.  If Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige and the MCU’s leadership team was willing to have Black Bolt appear in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, then that indicates that there’s still hope for these characters to score the spotlight again someday. And to be clear, I’m specifically talking about the Inhuman Royal Family and the civilization they rule over, not having random people around the world suddenly develop Inhuman powers.

One big way to put the Inhuman Royal Family in a more unique position to stand out is by making them major players in the MCU’s cosmic realm. Yes, this overlaps with the Eternals, but to be fair, the Inhumans have been involved in their fair share of cosmic events in the comics, including War of Kings and the previously-mentioned Infinity. If Earth is becoming too crowded with superpowered folks, then just have the Royal Family follow in their comic book counterparts’ footsteps by transporting their capital city of Attilan to either the Blue Area of the Moon or even a different corner of the galaxy. Let’s get the Inhumans involved with affairs of species like the Kree, Skrulls and Shi’ar.

 Another possibility for how to effectively utilize the Inhumans in the MCU would require them to chiefly be supporting characters rather than placed center stage. The Inhumans debuted in the comics within the pages of the Fantastic Four series in the mid-1960s and have maintained close ties with that superhero team. One major way the upcoming Fantastic Four reboot (which will no longer be directed by Jon Watts) could distinguish itself from the prior movies is by having Mister Fantastic, Invisible Woman, The Thing and The Human Torch cross paths with the Inhumans. This would an especially good way to feature Crystal, Medusa’s sister who’s capable of manipulating air, water, fire and earth elemental forces. Not only is Crystal one of Johnny Storm’s love interest, she also was a member of the Fantastic Four, taking over for Sue Storm, who was pregnant with her son Franklin at the time.

Basically, the Inhumans don’t have nearly as solid a standing in the MCU as they once did, but that doesn’t mean they couldn’t still get time to a significant amount of time to shine in this world someday. For now though, we’ll simply have to be content with Black Bolt’s minor appearance in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and make peace with Ms. Marvel either being a mutant or some kind of mutate in the MCU. 

Once any concrete details on the Inhumans’ live-action future are shared with the public, CinemaBlend will pass them along. Until then, keep track of what upcoming Marvel movies and upcoming Marvel TV shows are on the slate.

The Star Wars franchise and Obi-Wan Kenobi stars reached out in support of actress Moses Ingram after she faced racism online following her debut as Third Sister in the Disney+ series, and they’re not the only ones. In a show of solidarity, Anson Mount, a star of the rival franchise via Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, reached across the aisle to support Ingram and send a message that intolerance is not acceptable. 

Anson Mount took to social media to show some support for Moses Ingram after the actress revealed that she’d received hundreds of racist messages since her debut on Obi-Wan Kenobi. Mount, who Paramount+ subscribers can see regularly by watching the acclaimed Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, shared a photo of Ingram on social media while assuring her that he and the Trek community have her back: 

The post gained a lot of support on social media, including those in the Star Trek fandom. In fact, the official Trek account commented on Anson Mount’s post and sent a message of support to Moses Ingram and Star Wars: 

It’s no surprise at all that Star Trek was quick to side with Star Wars, even with the “rivalry" between the two franchises. IDIC, or “Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations,” is the basis of Vulcan philosophy and a concept that the Trek franchise has pushed since its very beginnings. Even if there is some rivalry in terms of which is the superior science-fiction franchise, the two can agree that racism is not something either fanbase should have to tolerate. 

It’s also worth noting that while there might be some debate online between Star Wars and Star Trek fans, the rivalry is more or less a thing of the past for many. After all, who wouldn’t want to chase a new episode of Obi-Wan Kenobi with an episode of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds the following day? All sci-fi fans, regardless of universe preference, should come together, perhaps as Anson Mount suggested in his tweet: 

Anson Mount’s statement echoes sentiments from a video message from Obi-Wan Kenobi star Ewan McGregor, who condemned the racist comments about Moses Ingram. McGregor called the messages “horrendous” and said that seeing some of the messages that Ingram received broke his heart. Ingram is just the latest Star Wars star to face racism from the fandom, and sequel trilogy actors Kelly Marie Tran and John Boyega faced the same. Hopefully, actors and franchises continuing to reach out will help reduce the cruel commentary on social media. 

Obi-Wan Kenobi streams new episodes on Disney+ on Wednesdays, and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds streams on Paramount+ on Thursdays. Those not too familiar with the latter should get acquainted, as I believe it’s a perfect entry point for those looking to get into Star Trek. 

Warning: SPOILERS for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness are ahead!

Several years back, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds actor Anson Mount starred in the Inhumans TV series as Black Bolt, leader of the Inhuman Royal Family. The ABC show was met with primarily negative critical reception and canceled after just one season, but it didn’t mark the end of Mount’s run as this Marvel character. He cameoed as the Earth-838 version of Black Bolt, a member of that reality’s Illuminati, in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and with the latest of the Marvel movies having played in theaters for roughly a week and a half now, Mount has broken his silence on the appearance with an on-point emoji.

Like the Black Bolt (real name Blackagar Boltagon) from the comics and the one he previously played on TV, Anson Mount’s Black Bolt in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness had a voice so powerful that just uttering a few words could unleash destruction. Unfortunately, his voice ended up being his downfall, which is why Mount’s choice of emoji in the Twitter post about his time on Doctor Strange 2 is amusing:

Whether you need a refresher or are still reading despite having not seen Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Black Bolt was ready to face off against Wanda Maximoff, a.k.a. Scarlet Witch, with most of the other Illuminati members when she invaded their compound to take America Chavez. Unfortunately, after John Krasinski’s Reed Richards, a.k.a. Mister Fantastic, told Wanda that Black Bolt could destroy her with a whisper, she used her Chaos Magic to remove his mouth. In a moment of panic, Black Bolt tried to speak and ended up exploding his own head, making him the first of the Illuminati’s casualties that day. On the bright side, Anson Mount picked a stellar emoji to cap off his message. One might say it was a… mind-blowing selection.

Earth-838’s Black Bolt would have been better off sitting out the events of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, but Anson Mount was clearly jazzed about being called by Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige about getting to participate in the sequel, as well as relished the opportunity to work with director Sam Raimi. Along with John Krasinski, Mount’s Illuminati co-stars included Chiwetel Ejiofor as Mordo, Hayley Atwell as Captain Carter, Lashana Lynch as Captain Marvel and Patrick Stewart as Professor X. Sadly, all but Earth-838’s Mordo fell in battle against Scarlet Witch, although they managed to delay her long enough so that Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange from Earth-616 could escape with America Chavez and Earth-838’s Christine Palmer.

With the MCU's multiverse having been firmly established not just through Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, but Loki and Spider-Man: No Way Home too, the door’s now open for Anson Mount to play a Black Bolt from another reality. Will that actually happen though? Considering that he’s busy playing Christopher Pike on Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, if Mount returned to the MCU over the next several years, I suspect it would be another cameo/minor appearance, as opposed to leading an Inhumans movie (which had once been in the MCU development pipeline) or a new Inhumans show unconnected to the previous one.

The Trek universe is about to expand, with the impending release of the Paramount+ series Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. Fans are sure to be excited to get a new look at the beloved franchise but, since limited knowledge of the canon is required here, the show is also the perfect entry point for new fans. Critics have had the opportunity to screen the first five episodes of Season 1, and these reviews should get the fanbase excited about the sci-fi series and how the new elements will be incorporated into the proceedings.

Season 1 of Strange New Worlds takes the USS Enterprise crew back to the decade before the events of Star Trek: The Original Series, so fans can expect to see a few major characters from the original era, as well as some newcomers. The series is a spinoff of Discovery and will see the returns of Anson Mount as Christopher Pike, Rebecca Romijn as Number One and Ethan Peck as Spock. New actors to the franchise include Babs Olusanmokun as M'Benga and Celia Rose Gooding as Nyota Uhura. So let’s see what the critics had to say.

Danielle Solzman of Solzy at the Movies rates the series a 4 out of 5 and, while she agrees that this is a good starting point for newcomers, she still recommends viewers familiarize themselves with the events of Star Trek: Discovery Season 2:

Zack Handlen of Variety says Strange New Worlds isn’t trying to break new ground but notes that the approach is actually kind of a relief. The series gets things back to the basics, showing a likable cast traveling the galaxy, embarking wacky sci-fi adventures, and just generally having a hell of a good time:

Glen Weldon of NPR says the TV show offers something that the rest of the fictional universe is lacking these days — old school, “original recipe” Star Trek. The nostalgia may speak to fans but so does the premise of witnessing the era before James T. Kirk became the captain:

Terry Terrones of Paste called the Paramount+ production “the trekkiest Star Trek show that’s ever trekked” and says it feels like the first true successor to The Original Series. This critic enjoyed the five episodes made available to press -- and watched them all in one sitting:

Only seven critics have rated the series on Rotten Tomatoes but, based on its first five episodes, it stands at 100% fresh. It's streaming home must have felt confident about the series, because a second season has already begun filming and will introduce Paul Wesley as James T. Kirk. When Star Trek: Strange New Worlds first revealed that Paul Wesley would arrive in Season 2 as none other than James T. Kirk, the excitement was...[dramatic pause]...palpable. Speculation ensued regarding what period of Kirk’s life we’d be seeing in the season, and whether he’ll be taking over as captain of the Enterprise and becoming a permanent piece of the impressive cast of characters, and all before Season 1 even debuted. The captain conjecture is arguably more important, considering we already know the eventual fate of the Paramount+ series’ current captain, Christopher Pike. So is Anson Mount already prepping to exit his second Star Trek series once Wesley makes his way to Strange New Worlds? 

I was fortunate to speak to Anson Mount and the cast of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds ahead of its premiere on May 5th for Paramount+ subscribers. While discussing the upcoming season, I asked Mount if there was anything he could say to ease the fears of fans worried about Pike’s crew status going forward beyond Season 1, and here's what the actor told me:

Star Trek canon dictates that Captain Christopher Pike will have a devastating accident that ultimately relieves him from active duty in Starfleet, and that it will happen sometime after James T. Kirk takes over as Captain of the Enterprise. With that said, Anson Mount seemed to indicate that a show featuring a Kirk-led Enterprise is not Strange New Worlds, at least not as he and the audience knows it. I’d choose to interpret his comments as saying as long as Strange New Worlds is a show, Anson Mount will be at the helm as Christopher Pike. Even though he could have just basically just meant Pike and Kirk are different leaders and would thus head up different shows.

The added reveal that was partially assumed is that Paul Wesley’s take on James T. Kirk (which received an the official blessing from William Shatner) will predate the character’s time as Captain of the Enterprise during at least his earliest days in Strange New Worlds.  The original Star Trek laid out a few significant events from Kirk’s past before he became Captain, so it’s possible his arrival in Season 2 has ties to one or several of those events. 

My personal hope is we’ll see Kirk during his tenure teaching at Starfleet Academy, as that sounds like a very interesting section of his life where there is much to explore in terms of the character's development. Plus, we’ve already seen so much of Kirk as a Captain in the original Star Trek, so it’d be a bummer to see Anson Mount's less-established Pike brushed aside for more of the same.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds will make it strange new debut on Paramount+ on Thursday, May 5th. It’s the latest but not the only Star Trek show arriving in 2022, so now is as good a time as any to see what’s ahead and maybe catch up to get in on all the fun!

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is taking franchise fans back to the pre-Kirk era, and on adventures that hearken back to the original Star Trek series. For that reason, fans might see a few characters from the original era appear in the upcoming Paramount+ show, as well as some new players with ties to other well-known characters, so there’s a lot to keep track of. 

The following is a breakdown of what Star Trek: Strange New Worlds characters we'll see, their past history in the franchise, and a little about the actor playing them. Let this be your guide to who’s who in the new series, set to arrive soon. 

Christopher Pike

Captain Christopher Pike is where Star Trek’s story begins, so to speak. Christopher Pike was captain of the Enterprise in the scrapped pilot for the franchise, “The Cage,” but was ultimately replaced by Captain Kirk when the series premiered. Canonically, Pike still preceded Kirk as Captain, and after a standalone episode in the original series, the prime universe character got a real revival via Star Trek: Discovery. We learned a lot about Pike in his short time on that show, including that he knows about the eventual life-changing accident that removes him from Starfleet command. 

Anson Mount reprises his role as Pike from his Star Trek: Discovery Season 2, but that’s likely not the first place viewers know him from. Mount’s most-known television work might be Hell on Wheels, where he played the lead role of Cullen Bohannon. He also played Black Bolt on the Inhumans series for Marvel (even though he wanted to play Gambit), though that role was much shorter-lived.

Spock

Even those only somewhat familiar with Star Trek likely know Spock, and how his Vulcan logic made him famous all over the world. Spock has several appearances in Star Trek across television and film, and we’ve learned a bit about him in each work. In fact, Spock enters Star Trek: Strange New Worlds not long after his stint in Star Trek: Discovery, where viewers learned he has an adopted sister, Michael Burnham. Beyond that, fans will want to know more about Spock’s formative years, and his close bond with Captain Pike. 

Spock is played by Ethan Peck, who garnered praise from Trek fans and even Leonard Nimoy’s daughter, Julie, for his portrayal. Peck’s previous works include Madam Secretary, and Penny Dreadful: City of Angels, just to name a few. 

Una Chin-Reilly (Number One)

Una Chin-Reilly might not be a name many remember from Star Trek, but Number One certainly is. The character was only known as “Number One” in “The Cage,” as she was second in command to Captain Pike. Now, she gets a chance to further flesh out her story in Strange New Worlds, as there’s still a lot we don’t know about the character, even after her appearance in Star Trek: Discovery Season 2. 

Rebecca Romijn is no stranger to film or television, as fans might know her from her role as Mystique in four X-Men movies, or her long stint on The Librarians. Romijn gets the privilege of fleshing out an established character that fans don’t know much about, which is a rare opportunity in Star Trek.

Uhura

Nyota Uhura was a Lieutenant and Chief Communications Officer in the original Star Trek series. In Strange New Worlds, she’ll enter the show as a cadet, and I’m sure audiences will love to see how the character acts and carries herself in the time before she became one of the more trusted members of Captain Kirk’s crew. 

Uhura is played by Celia Rose Gooding, who is a relative newcomer to television roles. Gooding is most known for her performance in Diablo Cody’s stage musical, Jagged Little Pill. She’ll get a real chance to showcase her acting skills on Strange New Worlds and give new life to the character made famous by actress Nichelle Nichols (who has some thoughts on the new Trek shows).

Dr. M’Benga

Dr. M’Benga was a member of the original Star Trek cast of characters, though not featured too often. One notable thing about his character is he interned on Vulcan, and as such is particularly skilled in the treatment of Vulcans. That’s good news for Spock, though I’m sure as the Enterprise doctor he can treat all types of lifeforms. 

Babs Olusanmokun steps into the role of Dr. M’Benga, who was first played by Booker Bradshaw. Olusanmokun starred is series like Black Mirror, as well as The Defenders, and Gotham. I’m looking forward to see how he adds to Dr. M’Benga and what more we learn about the character.

Christine Chapel

Nurse Chapel worked for Dr. McCoy in Star Trek: The Original Series and will appear again in Strange New Worlds. Chapel had a crush of sorts on Spock in the original show, so it’ll be interesting to see if the two have any sort of romance on the upcoming Paramount+ series. 

Jess Bush plays the role of Christine Chapel in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, after cutting her teeth on Australian television prior to this. Those looking to check out her work might want to watch Playing for Keeps or Home and Away.

La'an Noonien-Singh

La’an Noonien-Singh is a character new to the franchise, though the character she’s associated with is not. The Strange New Worlds newcomer enters the series as a relative of the infamous villain, Khan Noonien-Singh. We don’t quite know a lot about her character at this time, but suffice it to say, many are interested in learning more. 

Christina Chong steps into the role of this mysterious Star Trek: Strange New Worlds character, but she’s known by many for her work in other shows. Anyone interested can check her out in Line of Duty, or 24: Live Another Day, and get ready for what should be an exciting performance in the upcoming spinoff.

Erica Ortegas

Erica Ortegas is a character new to Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, so there’s not a lot of things to say about her. We know she’s a lieutenant, but that's pretty much it. Obviously, we’ll learn more about her when the series gets underway on Paramount+. 

Actress Melissa Navia might be new to Trek, but she’s no stranger to television. There are a lot of notable shows Navia has appeared in as of late, including Bull, New Amsterdam, and Billions. That’s more than enough for me to be excited about her appearance in Strange New Worlds, and see what Ortegas brings to the team.

Hemmer

Hemmer is a character that’s new to Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, though his species has precedent in the franchise. Hemmer is an Aenar, a type of albino Andorian species who appeared in Star Trek: Enterprise. 

Hemmer is played by Bruce Horak, who doesn’t have a ton of television credits to his name just yet. Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is his first major series, though he had a guest role in the Syfy series Warehouse 13, as well as a role in a short called Gitch. We’ll see what he brings to the table in this new show!

James T. Kirk

Fans originally believed that with Christopher Pike in charge of the Enterprise, there was a slim to nil chance James T. Kirk appeared in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. It turns out he’ll appear in Season 2, though that’s about all we know about the character’s appearance so far. I’m assuming he won’t be captain at any point during that time, but in some other role within Starfleet. 

James T. Kirk will be played by Paul Wesley, who is famously known for his role in The Vampire Diaries. Wesley was also a part of the short-lived Tell Me A Story on Paramount+ and is no stranger to television, or taking command of a series. We’ll see how he plays Kirk, and whether or not there’s a future for the character in the franchise.

While Anson Mount lost out to Ben Affleck on playing Batman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, he’s now getting to leave his mark on the character half a decade after that DCEU’s movie’s release. The Hells on Wheels and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds star voices Batman in Injustice, the adaptation of the popular same-named video games and comic book tie-ins. You can count the animated movie’s producer Rick Morales among the people who think Mount was a great choice to join the ranks of Batman voice actors.

Rick Morales complimented Anson Mount’s Batman performance when I recently interviewed him about Injustice, as I was curious what specific quality the actor had that made him the best choice for the role. As the producer put it:

It sounds like Anson Mount didn’t hold back on delivering the best Batman performance he could for Injustice, yet at the same time, Rick Morales and Wes Gleason recognized that the actor was already well equipped for the job. Of course, the Injustice team knew what they’d be getting when they recruited him, but it’s nice to hear that he nailed the Batman vocals instantly. Mount’s outing as Batman follows several months after Supernatural’s Jensen Ackles could be heard voicing Gotham City’s Dark Knight in the two-part animated adaptation of Batman: The Long Halloween.

Injustice is Anson Mount’s second superhero-related project, having previously played Black Bolt in ABC’s short-lived Inhumans series (where, ironically, he barely spoke). Mount has also expressed interest in playing mutant superhero Gambit, and with the X-Men property set to be rebooted in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, perhaps he’ll end up on a list of actors to look into. In the meantime, following his debut as Christoper Pike in Star Trek: Discovery Season 2, Mount is reprising the character in a leading capacity alongside Rebecca Romijn’s Number One and Ethan Peck’s Spock for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, which is expected to premiere on Paramount+ in 2022.

Anson Mount’s Injustice costars include Justin Hartley as Superman, Laura Bailey as Lois Lane and Rama Kushna,  Kevin Pollak as The Joker and Jonathan Kent, Gillian Jacobs as Harley Quinn, Janet Varney as Wonder Woman, Reid Scott as Green Arrow and Victor Zsasz, Faran Tahir as Ra’s al Ghul and Oliver Hudson as Plastic Man, among many others. Star Trek fans were exposed to a lot of new details and visual content thanks to New York Comic-Con, but only from select franchise shows such as Star Trek: Discovery and the upcoming animated Prodigy series. Strange New Worlds was still putting the finishing touches on filming pickup shots, but Captain Pike actor Anson Mount has now confirmed the production process is officially over. With filming wrapped, can fans expect to see a trailer or more information on the Paramount+ series soon? 

Basically, it depends on your definition of "soon." Anson Mount updated fans via a video shared by Paramount+, and shared about as many details as he could during these still-early days ahead of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds' debut. He even teased when some footage for the streaming series will arrive, though I’m not entirely sure fans will like the answer.

The good news is that Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is one step closer to release. The somewhat bad news, as fans read above, is that there’s no real timetable yet for when to expect footage, at least beyond “sometime next year.” Even if he's literally talking about January 1, 2022, that’s still something of an agonizing wait for fans who are dying to see Trek return to a less serialized structure. Hopefully there will be a trailer or some extended footage not too long into 2022. Or perhaps some stills that won't need excess post-production magic. 

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds's crew is still chugging along behind the scenes, but it’s hard not to get a little bummed out ..when Discovery will cruise into Season 4 in November with a little pause during COVID lockdowns. Of course, Discovery lucked out in that it only had post-production to complete on Season 3 during lockdowns, which likely allowed them to air the season and return to production with a plan for Season 4 pretty quickly. Discovery did still have a shutdown, but that didn’t slow things up too much for the upcoming episodes.

Even if the latest news from the Star Trek: Strange New Worlds front isn't entirely great, it’s not like fans are entirely in the dark about what to expect from the show. We know the general premise, and on Star Trek Day, we learned about the exciting return of other Star Trek characters that weren't previously confirmed to appear. Hopefully, the wait for more footage will be worth it and will satiate the wants of a vocal section of the Star Trek fandom that's been luke-warm on some of the new Trek shows.

Back in 2013, a year after The Dark Knight Rises’ release and mere weeks after Man of Steel came out, it was announced that Batman would appear in the sequel to the recently-released Superman movie, what would eventually become known as Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Ben Affleck was unveiled as the new live-action Caped Crusader a month later, but among the other actors who’d also tested for the role was Inhumans star Anson Mount. Now Mount is finally getting the opportunity to play Batman for the animated movie Injustice, and he sees this as a full circle moment.

I recently had the pleasure of speaking with Anson Mount about his work on Injustice, and after bringing up how he’d been discussed as a potential candidate to succeed Christian Bale as Batman, as well as how he’s said that Gotham City’s Dark Knight was one of his favorite characters growing up, I asked how it felt when he learned he’d be voicing Batman for the latest direct-to-video animated DC movie. Mount responded thusly:

At the time Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice was being put together, Anson Mount was starring as Cullen Bohannon in the AMC series Hell on Wheels, and he also had a little comic book media experience from appearing in an episode of Smallville. Unfortunately, Mount wasn’t selected for the role, and after Batman v Superman, Ben Affleck reprised Batman in Suicide Squad, Justice League (both versions) and the upcoming The Flash. Nearly a decade later though, now Mount has joined the group of actors who’ve left their stamp on Batman in the animated realm. Mount’s version of Batman follows on the heels of Supernatural star Jensen Ackles’ take on the character in the Batman: The Long Halloween two-part animated adaptation.

Based on the same-named 2013 video game and its tie-in comic book series, Injustice follows Superman, voiced by This is Us’ Justin Hartley, being tricked by The Joker into killing Lois Lane and destroying Metropolis. Blinded by rage, the Man of Steel recruits other superheroes to help him take over Earth, resulting in Anson Mount’s Batman and his own allies attempting to stop them. You can see how this animated Injustice adaptation unfolds when it’s released on Tuesday, October 19. Those of you eager for more Anson Mount content can look forward to him reprising Christopher Pike in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, which will premiere on Paramount+ sometime in 2022.

Within the world of geeky franchises, Anson Mount is arguably best known for playing Christopher Pike, having debuted as James T. Kirk’s USS Enterprise captaining predecessor in Star Trek: Discovery and will soon be seen leading Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. But let’s not forget that several years back, Mount left his stamp on the Marvel landscape by playing Black Bolt in ABC’s Inhumans series. However, if given the opportunity, Mount would gladly jump back into the Marvel pool to play X-Men hero Gambit, and he’d definitely be a solid choice.

While recently speaking with Anson Mount about his time voicing Batman in the upcoming animated Injustice movie, I asked if he would want a go at a different Marvel character, or if playing Black Bolt had been enough for him as far as Marvel content goes. Mount made it clear he’d welcome the chance to score a different role in the MCU, saying how he doesn’t really think he’s had his “shot at it.” The actor then said this:

I then brought up how the Marvel Cinematic Universe is planning to introduce the X-Men in the coming years, and Anson Mount noted how like himself, Gambit is a Southern superhero. That provides a little extra incentive for the powers-that-be at Marvel Studios to at least consider Mount for the Gambit role, assuming that’s an X-Men who’s being prepped for the MCU stage. Of course, if Mount was cast as Gambit, he’d actually get to deliver dialogue, as opposed to Black Bolt, who, like his comic book counterpart, couldn’t speak in Inhumans without his powerful voice causing destruction.

Gambit, a.k.a. Remy LaBeau, made his first comic book appearances in Uncanny X-Men Annual #14 and Uncanny X-Men #266, and just a few years later, he became one of the animated X-Men series’ starring characters. Within the film realm, Gambit was played by Taylor Kitsch in 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and in 2014, it was announced that Channing Tatum would play the card-throwing mutant in his own movie. However, the spinoff spent about half a decade in development hell and was ultimately shelved by Disney following the company’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox.

Considering that Gambit hasn’t received nearly as much cinematic attention compared to many other X-Men characters, the MCU could easily rectify that in the coming years. And since Inhumans was cancelled after just one season, this would be a great way for Anson Mount to leave a bigger impact on this franchise, and there’s precedence for this kind of recasting. After all, following his time as Cornell “Cottonmouth” Stokes in Netflix’s Luke Cage series, Mahershala Ali is now primed to play Blade, and Gemma Chan will soon be seen as Sersi in Eternals after previously appearing as Minn-Erva in Captain Marvel.

For now, the MCU’s plans for the X-Men are shrouded in secrecy, but we’ll keep you apprised of any concrete information that surfaces. As for Anson Mount, you can hear his Batman performance when Injustice is released on October 19, and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is expected to debut on Paramount+ sometime next year.

In addition to its output of live-action movies, DC Comics continues to release a steady supply of direct-to-video animated movies. Batman: The Long Halloween, Part One is the latest of this bunch, and Part Two will follow next week. Following that, the next installment in the DC Universe Animated Original Movies line will be an adaptation of the popular Injustice: Gods Among Us video game, and it’s been announced that a Smallville alum, Star Trek: Discovery star and many more will comprise the animated feature’s main cast.

Justin Hartley, who played Green Arrow on Smallville and currently stars as Kevin Pearson on This Is Us, will voice Superman in the animated Injustice movie, while Anson Mount, who starred as Black Bolt in the short-lived Inhumans series and appeared in Star Trek: Discovery as Christopher Pike (who he’s reprising for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds) will voice Batman. Like in the original video game, Injustice is set in a version of the DC universe where Superman goes rogue and takes control of Earth after he was tricked by The Joker into killing Lois Lane and destroying Metropolis. With the Man of Steel collecting a group of loyal followers to enforce his will, Batman recruits his own allies to help him resist Superman’s tyrannical regime.

Per THR, Injustice’s voice cast also includes Laura Bailey as Lois Lane and Rama Kushna, Zach Callison as Damian and Jimmy Olsen, Brian T. Delaney as Green Lantern, Brandon Michael Hall as Cyborg, Edwin Hodge as Mr. Terrific and Killer Croc, Oliver Hudson as Plastic Man, Gillian Jacobs as Harley Quinn, Yuri Lowenthal as Mirror Master, Flash and Shazam, Derek Phillips as Nightwing and Aquaman, Kevin Pollak as Joker and Jonathan Kent, Anika Noni Rose as Catwoman, Reid Scott as Green Arrow and Victor Zsasz, Faran Tahir as Ra’s al Ghul, Fred Tatasciore as Captain Atom, Janet Varney as Wonder Woman, and Andrew Morgado as Mirror Master Soldier. Matt Peters, who directed the Justice League Dark animated movie, helmed in Injustice off a script written by Batman: Hush’s Ernie Altbacker.

Released in 2013, Injustice: Gods Among Us was created by NeatherRealm Studios, the same company behind the Mortal Kombat games. The fighting game, which was launched on both consoles and mobile platforms, was met with a lot of positive reception and spawned Injustice 2, which was released in 2016. There was also an Injustice: Gods Among Us comic book series published by DC Comics from 2013 to 2016 that was set in the five years leading up to the game’s main events. That was then followed by Injustice 2’s own comic book series, which was set between the first two games.

Given all the source material to work with, this animated Injustice movie could easily be the first of a new film series to accompany the shared continuity that launched last year with Superman: Man of Tomorrow. For now though, this looks like this will be a standalone offering, and it’ll be interesting to see how the movie differentiates itself from the video game. For instance, I’m curious if, like in the video game, heroes from an alternate DC universe are pulled into the Injustice reality to aid Batman’s insurgency, or if this adaptation will solely rely on characters who live in the Injustice universe.

While there have been a true wealth of new Star Trek projects announced in the past few years, Trekkies got quite a wonderful surprise in May 2020, when it was announced that Star Trek: Discovery was going to spinoff the Season 2 additions of classic characters Spock (Ethan Peck), Number One (Rebecca Romijn), and Captain Pike (Anson Mount) into their own series, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. It's taken a while to get off the ground, but now the cast is celebrating the beginning of filming, and the production has added a whopping five new stars, including a Marvel's Defenders actor.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds will truly take fans where we've never gone before, as we'll finally be able to follow the Enterprise crew in the years before Captain Kirk took over the helm of the ship that started it all. We'd gotten some pretty big hints that the new sci-fi sure-to-be hit was, at the very least, gearing up for production, but a video of the cast celebrating their official start just hit the Paramount+ YouTube page, and everyone involved does look very happy to able to hit the ground running. Take a look!

Awww! Everyone seems so excited and awed by the experience of walking through the halls of the U.S.S. Enterprise, don't they? Now, unless you were too distracted from all of your glee over Strange New Worlds beginning to film in Toronto, you likely noticed the five new faces among the cast who will be joining returning stars Rebecca Romijn, Ethan Peck, and Anson Mount as they start their trek around the galaxy. While we don't know just yet who any of these newcomers will be portraying on the show (which is said to be more like The Original Series), they already seem like great additions to the franchise.

First up in the video is Melissa Navia, who was recently seen on the hit NBC medical drama New Amsterdam. You may have also caught Navia in the short-lived AMC drama Dietland, or in appearances on popular series Homeland, Billions, and The Affair, among several others. The clip then moves on to Celia Rose Gooding, who recently starred in the Broadway musical Jagged Little Pill, where her role as Frankie Healy netted the actress a 2020 Tony Award nomination for Best Featured Actress in a Musical. Gooding has also appeared in stage productions of Urinetown and Fame.

English actress Christina Chong was the next to help us celebrate filming on Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, and her credits include the recently released live-action adaptation of Tom and Jerry, as well as stints on The CW's Bulletproof, Doctor Who, Black Mirror, Line of Duty, and Syfy's Dominion, among several others.

Babs might be the most recognizable of the new additions, as he had an important part on the Netflix limited series Marvel's Defenders as Sowande, one of the five fingers of the ancient and dangerous organization the Hand. Olusanmokun was also in 2016' Roots mini-series, Black Mirror, Sneaky Pete, Gotham, The Blacklist, Copper, and has a part in the upcoming remake, Dune. Last, but certainly not least, we're introduced to Australian actress Jess Bush, who got her start by competing on Australia's Next Top Model in 2011, and has been seen in Home and Away, Playing for Keeps, and Halifax - Retribution, among other projects.

As I mentioned earlier, we're not sure who any of these new cast members are playing right now, but, just from looking at the group, I can already imagine a pretty fierce crew shaping up for the Enterprise. Olusanmokun, especially, has experience with Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and I'd love to see him as the ship's chief of security, wouldn't you?

All in all, it seems like Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is shaping up to be another wonderful adventure. An exact premiere date hasn't been revealed yet, but we might be able to set our eyes on the new Paramount+ series by this time next year, and we'll be sure to let you know when more details about Strange New Worlds are released.

Star Trek fans responded well to the performances of Anson Mount and Ethan Peck as Captain Pike and Spock in Discovery Season 2. The response was so positive that Alex Kurtzman and other decision-makers greenlit a spinoff for them and Rebecca Romijn's Number One, called Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. Those characters will continue in the pre-Kirk Enterprise era, but that doesn't mean they'll be untouched by the effects of the Discovery crew.

Even in the future Star Trek: Discovery will continue to influence the timeline before the original Star Trek. During the Star Trek panel at Comic-Con@Home, Ethan Peck elaborated on how the events of Season 2 will influence his Spock as they move ahead into the new series.

As some may have guessed, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds will draw heavily on the evolution of Spock, and the person he becomes between Star Trek: Discovery and the original Star Trek. That seems to say Peck's Spock hasn't gone full Nimoy yet, even though Burnham successfully brought her adopted brother out of his mental break and back into being a functioning member of Starfleet. There's apparently an opportunity for more growth, so an opportunity for more moments of growth for Spock in the new spinoff.

No doubt some of Spock's growth will come from further mentorship from Captain Pike, who faced his major life moment in Star Trek: Discovery. After taking a Klingon time crystal Pike was shown the circumstances of his unpleasant future in which he is severely incapacitated and confined to a life support machine. Mount spoke a bit about that moment and what it will mean for Pike moving forward.

Pike was able to press onward in the short term in Star Trek: Discovery, but it seems his inevitable fate will hang with him in Strange New Worlds. Rebecca Romijn hinted it may not be a burden Pike's forced to shoulder alone, so others will be brought in on the situation it seems. Of course, there will be many other Star Trek-related adventures to get into, and other stories that will further bridge the gap between Discovery and Star Trek.

Fans of Star Trek: Discovery went crazy for Ethan Peck's bearded Spock when he showed up on Season 2 of the latest entry in the Star Trek franchise, and now everyone who loved seeing the classic character in a new way is going to get to see a lot more of him and some of the other old favorites we were treated to on Discovery. CBS All Access, the new home for pretty much all things Trek, has now given a series order to Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, which will follow Spock, Captain Pike and Number One in the years before Kirk came to the Enterprise.

Along with Ethan Peck returning to the role of Spock for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, Anson Mount is on board to bring Captain Christopher Pike to life again, along with Rebecca Romijn taking on the part of Number One, as she did in Star Trek: Discovery. The series will focus on the trio as they lead the Enterprise and her crew on a trip around the galaxy to explore, you got it, new worlds. Akiva Goldsman wrote the series premiere from a story created by himself, Alex Kurtzman and Jenny Lumet, and here's what Kurtzman had to say about the new project:

I have to say, I love it when a plan comes together! It was just last summer that fans, in the wake getting to watch Spock, Pike and Number One on Season 2 of Star Trek: Discovery, were giddy with the hope that we could see these new versions of the characters again. Of course, as Discovery viewers will know, that show jumped very far ahead in the Star Trek timeline at the end of its second season, meaning that any significant appearances from them would be very unlikely.

At the time, Kurtzman, who is Discovery's co-showrunner and EP, admitted that they were looking for a way to bring Spock, Number One and Captain Pike (with Pike and Number One also being Original Series characters, but who were only briefly seen) back into the Trek fold. Seeing as how not even a full year has passed since then, it's clear that they were deeply serious about granting fans' wishes and making Star Trek: Strange New Worlds a reality.

This series now joins several new franchise shows, as, along with Discovery, there is also Star Trek: Picard, Star Trek: Short Treks, the upcoming animated series Star Trek: Lower Decks, and the still in development show about Section 31 starring Discovery's Michelle Yeoh, along with a CG animated show for younger audiences, which is being made for Nickelodeon.

Goldsman, Kurtzman and Lumet will act as executive producers on Strange New Worlds, along with Henry Alonso Myers, Heather Kadin, Rod Roddenberry and Trevor Roth. Goldsman will also keep his other day job as an executive producer on Picard, and had this to say about the new series:

Man, it's hard to believe that just a few years ago, there was no new Star Trek on TV, and it didn't seem like we'd ever get to explore the galaxy with a brightly outfitted Trek crew again. Now there are so many shows to choose from that fans can stay entertained for as long as they like.

Right now, there's no word on how many episodes we'll see from Season 1 of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, or when we can expect it to debut on CBS All Access, but you can stay tuned to CinemaBlend for the latest!

Star Trek: Discovery Season 2 seemed like a big gamble for the franchise, especially when it was announced it would feature one of the most revered characters. Luckily, audiences seemed to really love Ethan Peck's bearded Spock, and were engaged by Anson Mount elevating the character of Christopher Pike with his performance. Everybody want more of them, Rebecca's Romijn's "Number One," and the Enterprise on Discovery, but will we actually get more? Here's what co-showrunner and EP Alex Kurtzman had to say.

As fans have learned previously, Star Trek: Discovery's jump to the future is going to make it difficult for that crew to reunite with Pike, Spock, and the Enterprise crew. Even if these characters were to develop some form of time travel, the fact that each Anson Mount's Pike and Ethan Peck's Spock has a defined path in the Prime timeline from here on out does limit the creative team's options. They'd have to mess with the timeline if they tried to find Michael.

Of course, there is a bit of a silver lining to this rain cloud, as Alex Kurtzman did tease to TrekCore.com he and the Star Trek team are looking into ways to bring Ethan Peck, Anson Mount, and Rebecca Romjin's characters back into the fold. That means audiences could be seeing them back soon enough on one of the other shows in development regardless of what happens on Discovery.

While it's offhandedly plausible Alex Kurtzman could be in discussions to get the characters in that Nickelodeon CGI series or the adult-animation comedy Star Trek: Lower Decks, the most obvious option here would be to feature the pre-Kirk Enterprise crew in a future episode of Short Treks. Perhaps a mini-episode that shows the team working together, or maybe the day that leads up to Captain Pike's tragic incident?

After all, we saw Spock visit Talos IV which is where he'd take the injured Pike years later in the original Star Trek. We also saw Pike learn of his fate long before it happened when he took the time crystal, which was a new bit of information.

Is it possible there's another chapter in which Pike tells Spock he wants to return to Talos IV following his injury? If so, I'd love to see that exchange. Or something else, even.

How Star Trek: Discovery's Sexy Spock Look Came Together

For now, we can only wait and see what Alex Kurtzman has planned for the world of Star Trek. Discovery Season 3 is currently in the planning stages, with a release likely happening next year. Season 2 of Star Trek: Discovery has been a fun ride so far, but some recent news has revealed that a bit of that fun will fade at the season's end. Two major characters from the Star Trek lore have been confirmed to be shipping off ahead of Season 3, and presumably heading back to the Enterprise to live out the rest of their fates. Anson Mount and Rebecca Romjin, who play Captain Pike and Number One, will leave Discovery.

Though Anson Mount's Captain Pike has been pretty popular amongst Star Trek: Discovery fans, Deadline reported he and Rebecca Romjin's contracts are strictly one year contracts intended for Season 2. As far as why, it's being said that the season's intention was to fully sync Discovery up, which is currently somewhere between the failed pilot "The Cage" and the episode "The Menagerie" at the moment within the original Star Trek series lore. What does this mean for the two characters?

We can't say for sure, although it is known that Pike gets a promotion to Fleet Captain within Starfleet but is ultimately forced to relinquish command due to an accident that leaves him badly injured. Pike is later taken by Spock to Talos IV, which was featured in the aforementioned Star Trek episodes as well as a recent episode of Discovery. There, Pike is able to live a life free from injury, thanks to the psychic projections of the Talosians.

Number One's fate is uncertain, but she's no longer around the Enterprise by the time Captain Kirk rolled into Star Trek. Whether she left the ship after Pike, or something will happen to her before the end of Season 2, we'll have to wait and see. Number One is not a major character within the franchise lore, although her title was used frequently in Star Trek: The Next Generation to refer to William T. Riker.

One interesting thing to note about this bit of news is that nothing was said of Ethan Peck's Spock. Spock is obligated to his duties on the Enterprise, so if Pike is returning, it's presumed Spock would do the same once the Red Angel mission is over. Of course, Star Trek has done some crazy things in the past, and there's no canon that explicitly states he has to be there any amount of time beyond Kirk's arrival on Enterprise.

With that said, Spock doesn't seem too keen on hanging out with his sister Michael. The two have been going round and round airing out grievances with each other in a mix of Vulcan logic and human emotion. Chances are they'll eventually find a way to reconcile their feelings, but even then Spock really has nothing tying him to Discovery after his name is cleared and his mission is complete.

Anson Mount's Captain Christopher Pike has been an early high point of Star Trek: Discovery Season 2, and it sounds like there's going to be quite a lot happening with the temporary Discovery captain in the new season. This involves telling a new story in the Pike lore, one that will reference the currently existing lore of Pike in some way. Mount said this:

Well, that's ambiguous, in more ways than one. Obviously, most of Pike's story in Star Trek: Discovery Season 2 will affect his lore in some way. With that said, the thing folks might be assuming will be referenced is how Pike gets severely injured prior to the events of "The Menagerie" in the original Star Trek. It appears that may not be shown this season, but something else worth noting will.

As far as what that could be is anyone's guess, as Anson Mount acknowledged there was a lot of room to grow the character with his portrayal. He, along with the Discovery writers, came to agree that the Pike in "The Cage" and the Pike in "The Menagerie" are two different people, so the person the captain is between their versions is up to interpretation.

This extended to how Star Trek: Discovery will portray the dynamic of Captain Pike and Spock. As Star Trek fans know, Spock had a high level of respect for his former captain, so there was an expectation the two would be pals in Season 2. Mount talked briefly about how the writers developed the relationship between the two characters, and had some high praise for the latest actor to portray Spock, Ethan Peck:

Fans have yet to see any interaction between Captain Pike and Spock, although Anson Mount's praise indicates the two will share some scenes throughout Star Trek: Discovery Season 2. Could the two's relationship have something to do with how Pike's canon will be affected? Will we learn why Spock was so dead-set on delivering his former Captain to Talos despite the risk of death at the hands of Starfleet?

Anson Mount didn't slip up and reveal any spoilers, but did tease there's going to be some tough times ahead for the character. Mount told CinemaBlend's TV Editor Nick Venable following the TCA panel for Star Trek: Discovery things are going to get emotional for Pike:

Anson Mount is debuting as Star Trek: Discovery's Captain Christopher Pike when Season 2 premieres on CBS All Access, granting the world more adventures with one of the Enterprise's lesser-celebrated Captains. The reveal at the end of Season 1 that Pike would join Season 2 was surprising for fans, but maybe not as surprising as it was to Mount when he made his way onto the series. In his words:

For Anson Mount, being on a Star Trek set after being a fan since his youth was constantly a wild time, and the fact that he was playing Captain Pike was even more crazy. Mount told ET that he re-introduced himself to the character via the rejected Star Trek pilot "The Cage," as well as Pike's follow-up episode "The Menagerie." To play the Captain who preceded Captain Kirk was an honor, and Mount indicates he intends to do the role justice.

Anson Mount does say that little of his performance imitates that of the character's original portrayer Jeffrey Hunter, and his Pike does things a bit differently than the popular Captains of the franchise's past. Mount explained that this version of the character is introduced in Star Trek: Discovery between the rejected pilot and "The Menagerie," meaning he's responsible for showing a Star Trek audience what the captain is like in his "Second Act." It was a task Mount relished,

For an example of the differences, Captain Pike is not afraid to admit he's in over his head on Discovery. Mount explained that one of Pike's best attributes is his ability to turn the crew into a think tank and utilize the best people to help come up with the best solutions to problems. While it does seem a bit worrisome the Discovery's new head doesn't always have all the answers, at least he's not afraid to admit it and defer to someone who might.

As far as what it was like joining Star Trek: Discovery's existing cast, Anson Mount had nothing but positive things to say. He added the ensemble was especially accommodating when it came to the healthcare of his pet. Here's Mount's touching story that speaks to the Trek community at large.

It's good to hear the Star Trek: Discovery cast is just as outstanding a team behind the scenes as they appear to be onscreen. It's also good to hear that newcomers are welcomed with open arms, what with all the fresh faces appearing in Season 2. That includes Ethan Peck's bearded Spock, who is sure to have even more judging eyes on him than Mount's Pike. Hopefully, the welcoming atmosphere gave way to what will be a tremendous Season 2.

Patrick Stewart may be making a grand return to the Star Trek franchise but that doesn't mean Star Trek: Discovery is suddenly chopped liver. The streaming series gained a fair share of franchise fans in its inaugural season, and its run played a big part in drawing a lot of eyes to CBS All Access. No doubt the series will do the same in Season 2, as the drama gears up for another inventive story, the return of a few classic characters, and probably some swearing. With that said, here's all we know about Season 2 and what fans can expect.

When Will Star Trek: Discovery Season 2 Debut?

The exact premiere date for Star Trek: Discovery Season 2 is unknown, although we've been told to expect the show to arrive on CBS All Access in the early half of 2019. Executive producer and now showrunner Alex Kurtzman has been consistent with that date since Season 1 was still airing, and no news has come out to indicate we should expect it any sooner. Additionally, production seems to be chugging along in spite of behind the scenes drama, so, provided no other massive roadblocks come up, Star Trek: Discovery should arrive when expected.

What Will Star Trek: Discovery Season 2 Be About?

Star Trek: Discovery Season 1 ended with the USS Discovery face-to-face with the USS Enterprise, and while it's been confirmed that the Enterprise and its crew won't be around all season, there will be some connection. Former co-showrunner Aaron Harberts said a theme of Season 2 revolves around the family one chooses versus the family one is born into, and with Michael Burnham's adopted brother Spock on board the Enterprise, he'll no doubt have a part to play in this theme. That much was confirmed in the Season 2 trailer anyway, which hinted that Spock is somehow linked to seven mysterious red bursts spread out light years apart. The Discovery will team up with Captain Christopher Pike and his Enterprise crew, in what sounds to be a rescue mission to find the Vulcan.

Another theme teased for Season 2 of Star Trek: Discovery involves spirituality, and the struggle between logic and faith. It's an issue Michael Burnham somewhat struggled with in Season 1, as the human raised by Vulcans slowly became more accustomed to her more human desires. No doubt she'll continue to struggle with this balance in Season 2, and it's possible the rest of the Discovery crew might go along for the ride as well. Beyond that, the Discovery is slated to get a new permanent captain, and appearances from Mirror-Georgiou, Voq/Ash, or even Harry Mudd are always on the table. One thing that seems certain, though, is that the adventure is only beginning.

What Have We Seen From Star Trek: Discovery Season 2?

A first-look trailer for Star Trek: Discovery Season 2 was released at San Diego Comic-Con 2018, and with it came the arrival of Anson Mount's Captain Christopher Pike. As previously mentioned, the trailer seemed to revolve around mysterious red bursts and the revelation that Burnham's brother Spock might be in trouble. Given what is known about the Enterprise's role in Season 2, it's possible this is just an arc of Season 2 and not the entire big picture of what's happening in the upcoming season. That said, even the small stories in Season 1 seemed to come full circle by the finale, so it's possible the trailer contains more about Season 2 than we know for now.

The Star Trek: Discovery first look also contains the high-intensity space flying and explosions that appear to indicate the action will be as constant as ever in Season 2. It's doubtful the Klingons are ready to take on the Federation so soon after their conflict in Season 1, but a silhouette spotted in Burnham's helmet at the start of the trailer appears to indicate some alien race could be behind all this drama. Who that might be, however, is anyone's guess, as Star Trek: Discovery has not been shy about redesigning some of the series' most iconic species.

Michael Burnham

Burnham might've lost whatever budding romance she had with Ash Tyler when he awoke as Voq, but Star Trek: Discovery's main character at least got the consolation of being pardoned and reinstated in Starfleet for her role in ending the war with the Klingons. Burnham's heroics have undoubtedly earned her the respect of the majority of the Discovery crew, which means she'll probably get a lot more friendly interactions with crew members who aren't Tilly. Burnham will definitely appreciate the regained acceptance of her peers, even if she won't readily admit it.

Burnham may not have a ton of time to appreciate that kindness, however, as the Season 1 finale threw her right into another complicated situation. Star Trek: Discovery is ready to show some more family drama, as Burnham appears to be on a collision course with her brother Spock. Fans will just have to wait and see what transpires if that encounter happens, as Vulcans aren't typically known for emotional interactions. That said, with Spock half-human and Burnham a human raised by Vulcans, one shouldn't be surprised if their exchange gets a bit more heated than the conversations that took place between Burnham and Sarek. Spock might help Burnham in her quest to balance the Vulcan and human aspects of her life, and, perhaps, together the two can touch on the season's overarching theme of logic vs. spirituality.

Stamets

Paul Stamets had a rougher season of Star Trek: Discovery than most and walked away lucky to be alive after merging with the Spore Drive. Unfortunately, his partner, Lt. Hugh Culber, wasn't so lucky, and we're sure Season 2 of Star Trek: Discovery will show Stamets continue to mourn for his lost other half. We're also sure we'll see him work up some other brilliant tech to aide the Discovery and its crew, although it's worth noting the Season 2 trailer only showed him briefly. Perhaps without the Mycelial network on the Discovery, his role in the current season won't be as large as it was in Season 1?

Tilly

Things were looking up for Sylvia Tilly at the end of Star Trek: Discovery, as the quirky crewmember was awarded admission to Starfleet's officer training school. Her mirror counterpart proved she's capable of handling command, although it's safe to say Tilly won't be handling things as her mirror self did if she ever gets the chance to lead. We're not sure how the surprise arrival of the Enterprise will impact Tilly's new development in Season 2, but we're assuming she'll be dropping another f-bomb if it causes a significant delay to her future goals.

Saru

Saru ended Season 1 as the first Kelpian to ever receive the Starfleet Medal of Honor, and as acting Commanding Officer of the USS Discovery. The moment meant a lot to Saru, who had been pining for command of his own ship for a long time. Unfortunately, the moment appears short-lived as the trailer showed Captain Christopher Pike will eventually take command of the vessel not long after their encounter. Saru also managed to bond with Burnham before the season's end, which means Season 2 of Star Trek: Discovery will almost certainly see the two on much better terms.

Christopher Pike

Star Trek fans are already familiar with Captain Christopher Pike, as the iconic franchise captain is largely known for being in command of the USS Enterprise prior to James T. Kirk. Star Trek: Discovery Season 2 looks to show more of Pike at his peak, and will show far more of what the Enterprise was like before Kirk's arrival. We'll also, presumably, get to see how Pike interacts with Spock, which is interesting, due to the Vulcan being one of the thin links between the two captains.

Spock and Captain Kirk had a pretty good bromance, but it's hard to say whether or not that'll be true with Spock and Pike. The Enterprise captain appears concerned for his crew member, but that may be the amount of concern he'd show towards any missing crew member from his ship. If fans don't get to see much interaction between Pike and Spock, at least they'll get to see more of the captain in action, which is something the original series didn't show much of outside the pilot.

Spock

The story of Spock in Star Trek: Discovery is interesting, and not just because his adopted sister is playing the lead character. The show has cast Ethan Peck to play a younger version of the Vulcan, despite a rather rampant insistence early on in production that the show would not be casting a new Spock. Originally, it was strongly implied that the series would use past Spock voice work and footage to re-create the character, but, apparently, some things have changed.

That said, perhaps that's still partly true as Jonathan Frakes revealed that Young Spock will, for sure, be around in a couple Season 2 flashbacks. Alex Kurtzman didn't reveal if the Spock Frakes referred to was Ethan Peck or a younger actor brought in to play a more child-like Spock, although he has confessed this will be a different Vulcan than the one portrayed by Leonard Nimoy and Zachary Quinto. Essentially, Peck's version may not quite be the level-headed clear thinking Vulcan he's largely been portrayed as, which might be why he's missing, and possibly in danger.

Sarek

Michael Burnham isn't the only relative of Spock's who is involved in Star Trek: Discovery, as Star Trek fans know his father, Sarek, has a long and strained history with his son. It's been known for a long time that Sarek wasn't the biggest fan of Spock joining Starfleet over the Vulcan Science Academy, but Star Trek: Discovery revealed why the sleight was so significant. Now, we'll get to see if Sarek forgives his son for throwing away an opportunity that Burnham so desperately wanted, but was denied, after the Vulcans gave their father an ultimatum where only one of his children could join. Judging from their relationship in later years, we're assuming whatever interaction happens between the two won't go well, but we could be surprised.

Harry Mudd

Rainn Wilson's Harry Mudd hasn't been confirmed for Season 2 of Star Trek: Discovery, although Star Trek fans are guaranteed to see him before the new season begins. Mudd will return in Short Treks, which will give the character a fresh short adventure, as well as further flesh out the Star Trek universe. Mudd's big attack on the Discovery was one of the highlights of Season 1, and while it's exciting to hear he'll get another stand-alone adventure, some fans are hoping he still makes an appearance in the new season.

What's Going On Behind The Scenes?

Star Trek: Discovery Season 2 got thrown a curveball not long into production when it was revealed that Season 1 showrunners Aaron Harberts and Gretchen Berg were being replaced. The duo, who originally took over for Bryan Fuller, were both removed after the budget for the Season 2 premiere was so out of control that all remaining episodes had to have a chunk of their budgets removed to compensate for it. Additionally, it was reported that Berg and Harberts had created a toxic work environment for the writing staff, and were, reportedly, cursing and making threats towards a few people. Executive producer Alex Kurtzman is now in control of the series for at least Season 2, and it is unknown if he will replace himself should the series return for Season 3.

As mentioned, Star Trek: Discovery will return to CBS All Access sometime in early 2019. The Star Trek franchise has long been known for its massive scale and productions, but that doesn't make the scope of Star Trek: Discovery any less amazing to actor Anson Mount. Mount, who has worked on big productions like Marvel's Inhumans and AMC's Hell On Wheels, recently spoke about the massive enterprise Season 2 is and painted a picture as to just how much space the show can occupy:

Anson Mount has been around Hollywood for quite a while, so for him to say that about Star Trek: Discovery really shows just how big the show can be. One downside of big productions, however, is that they often mean a lot of extra work, and Mount said he's spent some long hours on set while filming his role as Christopher Pike. Luckily, Mount told Comicbook he's allowed to have his dog Mac hang out with him during filming to keep him company, but added the dog has a bad habit of snoring at the least opportune times. One has to wonder just how loudly that dog is snoring considering how big Mount said these sets can be!

Although the show sets can be big, Anson Mount's view of Star Trek: Discovery's typical production may be just slightly inflated. His stint on the show comes at the same time CBS removed former showrunners Aaron Harberts and Gretchen Berg from the show. Mount was part of the first episode of the season, and the cost for that episode was reportedly so high that future episodes would have to compensate to make up for it. That said, Mount seemed to have no complaints as he talked about working on Episode 2 of the show and what it means to him to be a part of the Star Trek franchise:

Anson Mount will be featured in at least the first couple episodes of Star Trek: Discovery, as the Season 1 cliffhanger showed the Enterprise face to face with the Discovery. As mentioned, Mount plays Captain Christopher Pike, who was captain of the Enterprise just before William Shatner's James T. Kirk took command. Whether or not the show's sets will continue to stay massive now that Aaron Harberts and Gretchen Berg are out as showrunners remains to be seen, although CBS certainly has a vested interest in making the show feel big to keep viewers interested in subscribing to CBS All Access.

Star Trek: Discovery is still in production for Season 2, and is expected to air on CBS All Access in 2019. Everyone who sat on the edge of their seat as they watched the Season 1 finale of Star Trek: Discovery was stunned when the final moments of the episode revealed that the Discovery crew was about to come face to face with the crew of the Enterprise. Since the show is set 10 years before the beginning of Star Trek: The Original Series, though, fans will know that James T. Kirk isn't in command yet. The title of captain for the Enterprise currently rests with Christopher Pike, and Discovery has just cast Anson Mount to play him.

CBS revealed today that we will get to visit with at least one member of the Enterprise crew when Season 2 of Star Trek: Discovery hits CBS All Access. Anson Mount has singed on to portray Christopher Pike, a character who was first introduced in TOS as the immediate predecessor to Captain Kirk on the Enterprise. After several years as captain of the Enterprise, Pike would go on to become one of Starfleet's most decorated captains, and the character has also been referred to on Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, along with being mentioned early on during Season 1 of Discovery.

Anson Mount has become known for playing strong leaders and tough guys in the past few years, and that, in addition to his resemblance to the actor who originally played Pike on TOS, should make him a very good fit for the character. He most recently appeared as Black Bolt on Inhumans and Cullen Bohannon on Hell on Wheels, but the actor has racked up almost 50 credits since his TV debut on Ally McBeal in 1999. Mount has also shown off his talents in Boiler Room, Third Watch, Crossroads, Smallville, CSI: Miami, Lost, Law & Order and Non-Stop.

We'll be meeting Pike while he's in the midst of his legendary career as a Starfleet captain when we see him on Discovery. The fifth episode of Season 1 saw Saru calling up a list of the most decorated commanding officers in Starfleet, and Pike's name was already among them, so we're sure to see the full powers of his leadership as the Discovery crew helps the Enterprise after responding to its distress call during the Season 1 finale. While we don't know if we'll see anyone else from TOS in Season 2 of Discovery, it should be noted that Spock worked under Captain Pike for many years, which means we can all keep our fingers crossed that Michael Burnham's adoptive brother might be worked into the show in some capacity.

We don't know for sure when Anson Mount will debut as Captain Christopher Pike on Star Trek: Discovery, but it's a good bet that it will be sooner rather than later when the next season hits CBS All Access. It's not hard to understand why playing a superhero has become one of the most sought-after gigs in Hollywood. They offer some excellent job security, as well as the opportunity to stay at the forefront of one of the most popular genres in entertainment. Hell on Wheels' Anson Mount is one of the latest actors to step into the genre with his role as Black Bolt on ABC's Inhumans, but it turns out that he actually wanted to play an X-Men character before stepping into the Marvel world: Remy "Gambit LeBeau. Mount expressed his sincere desire to play the cajun X-Man and explained:

It's worth mentioning that Anson Mount doesn't actually appear to harbor any ill will towards Channing Tatum for getting the role of Gambit. In his comments to CBR about wanting to play the card-throwing mutant badass, Mount very clearly laughed about his frustration. That said, it's not hard to imagine that it's at least a little disappointing not to get your first choice of hero.

Of course, as many of you likely already know, the process of getting Channing Tatum into the role of Gambit hasn't necessarily been easy either. Although he has tentatively been attached to the project for several years, the Gambit film has gone through many behind-the-scenes changes and continues to remain firmly planted in development hell. Last we heard about the movie, things seems optimistic -- with the development taking several creative cues from Logan and Deadpool in terms of scale and style -- so we will keep our fingers crossed in the hope that that ANY Gambit movie will actually get made.

Although it has taken quite a while to make any real progress on the Gambit movie, many fans are likely willing to wait to see him come to life. As one of the most popular X-Men characters of all time, Gambit has developed a rabid fanbase due to his anti-hero sensibilities and his awesome powers. Possessing the ability to charge inanimate objects with kinetic energy, the southern scoundrel can quite literally make anything explode at will -- though he often sticks to his trusty pack of playing cards for ammunition. He's one of the more loquacious characters in Marvel lore, so it's obviously a far cry from someone like Black Bolt -- whose very voice could destroy a planet.

Just from what we know so far about Anson Mount's Black Bolt In Marvel's Inhumans, the actor has quite a task on his hands. And, I mean that literally, as Mount's latest comment on his characters' lack of speaking sounds more challenging than we once previously thought:

So not only will Anson Mount have to do most of his acting without speaking, he also has to develop an entirely new language separate from all forms of human nonverbal communication! Mount also tells EW that Black Bolt will learn the catastrophic strength of his voice, which seems to confirm that we will see Black Bolt speak at some point and witness some sort of destruction from it in Season 1 of Inhumans. Seeing as though we're going to be seeing a lot of Mount using pretend sign language, I wonder how the series will translate his dialogue, considering he's one of the main characters in the show? At the moment, that answer has me more intrigued than how they're going to bring a 2,000-pound dog to life!

Considering the fairly sizable cast and the premise of Inhumans, we can imagine someone in the royal family will always be around to translate Black Bolt's regal hand gestures. Another option might be to simply do subtitles, although I can see many fans who would be turned off by having to read the additional dialogue and keep up with the action. I'm just curious as to how Inhumans are such an advanced civilization and yet they don't have anything similar to a Speak and Say? Maximus, the brother of Black Bolt played by Iwan Rheon, is a supposed genius so you'd think he could whip something up, although he may not be so willing to considering the two's long history.

The world will get its first look at Inhumans when the first two episodes air in IMAX theaters September 1st for a two week period. After that, you can expect to see the series premiere on ABC beginning September 26th. With news breaking a couple months ago that Marvel's Inhumans would be headed to television for Fall 2017, fans haven't had a lot of time to fully process just how awesome that news is. Marvel's Inhumans finally made some casting moves recently, and today brings the announcement that the show has found its Black Bolt, and Hell on Wheels' Anson Mount has been cast to play the leader whose whisper can destroy an entire city.

The role of Black Bolt likely won't be a huge challenge for Anson Mount, as Black Bolt is the strong and silent type. Like the "if he talks at normal volume, it's like detonating a nuclear bomb all around him" silent type, so don't expect much dialogue unless it's absolutely necessary. This means a lot of Mount's action on screen, will be in body language, non-verbal communication, and some fighting, of course; Black Bolt boasts superhuman strength and speed. Marvel's Jeph Loeb says Mount is up for the challenge and says his imposing persona gives a regal vibe that will fit the character. As leader of the Inhumans, Mount will need that "regal persona," as the silent leader of the reclusive race of superhumans will get a lot of focus.

Anson Mount is joining previously announced actor Iwan Rheon, who will play Black Bolt's brother, Maximus. Expect Mount and Rheon to share a lot of time on-screen, as the two men's paths are frequently intertwined throughout the decades in Marvel's Inhumans comics. Without getting too caught up with spoiler talk and discussing backstories and whatnot, the brothers' history is complicated, to say the least. The dynamic of Mount and Rheon will be a relationship often visited in the series, so let's hope the two talented actors are up to the challenge.

Many will known Anson Mount from AMC's Hell On Wheels, where he played leading man Cullen Bohannon. After 5 seasons, the series packed up and headed into the sunset, which led Mount to his casting in Marvel's Inhumans on ABC. While Hell On Wheels has been Mount's main claim to fame, the actor has also appeared on series like Lost, Sex In The City, Third Watch and many others. Mount has some film appearances as well, although he doesn't get the same top-billing he gets on TV.

Marvel's Inhumans is set to premiere its first two installments in IMAX theaters ahead of its full 8-episode run on ABC this September. With all the excitement and hype surrounding the series, let's hope Anson Mount isn't already in character and keeping completely silent about the project!
