Full House remains a highly popular sitcom even more than 30 years after the conclusion of its eight-season run. The beloved TGIF comedy has been kept alive in part due to members of the cast and crew sharing cool behind-the-scenes tidbits about making it. Something I’ve long wondered has to do with Michelle actresses Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen. I never knew how it was decided which twin would film a specific scene. Well, thanks to two of the Olsens’ co-stars, I now have some much-needed clarification.

So much has been said about the Olsen twins’ time on Full House, including the fact that Uncle Jesse actor John Stamos nearly got them fired early on due to their constant crying. So it’s wild to think that I’m only now just getting a sense of how they were selected for scenes. The answer came from series alums Jodie Sweetin and Andrea Barber during an episode of the How Rude, Tanneritos! rewatch podcast. Sweetin recalled squabbles between the twins over wanting to do certain scenes and how that was handled:

Overall, it sounds like a little negotiating had to be done from time to time, depending on what was being filmed. (And, honestly, I can understand the girls’ eagerness to do ice cream scenes.) It’s interesting to think about having to manage such details on a show featuring twins, especially ones so young. Helping to solve those issues was Adria Later, who served as a teacher and acting coach to Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen. Barber said this of how Later would handle a disagreement over an ice cream scene or one similar:

Throughout Full House’s eight seasons, Michelle has memorable experiences, and one of those actually prompted the discussion on the rewatch podcast. Sweetin (who played Stephanie Tanner) and Barber (who played Kimmy Gibbler) recalled filming the two-part Season 6 episode, “The House Meets the Mouse,” which sees the Tanners and co. heading to Orlando to visit Walt Disney World. There’s a scene in which Michelle gets to take part in a princess float, and Barber theorized about Later’s handling of all that:

It can’t be said for sure just how that particular scene was settled upon. However, Sweetin did bring up one interesting point about the float scene:

Conversely, during the period of the show in which the Olsens were still little, the producers apparently had a preferred twin to work with. Sweetin revealed during a previous episode of the podcast that Mary-Kate apparently didn’t like being on set, while Ashley was “much more docile.” However, as Sweetin also explained, the twins’ cooperation could shift depending on the scene being done.

These BTS facts just shed more light on the intricacies of producing one of the most popular sitcoms of the ‘90s. If anything, I’d love to hear Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen themselves talk about what they can remember from their experiences, as Jodie Sweetin and co. can only field questions about them. Of course, the two sisters – who’ve found massive success in the fashion industry – prefer their privacy, which I can certainly respect. If anything, I’m just pleased to have this latest bit of information on their time sharing the role of Michelle.

It’s completely understandable that the Olsen twins and Jodie Sweetin have grown in different directions over the years, and I love that the Stephanie Tanner actress has the grace to know that’s OK.

There’s a lot that has been written about Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen’s time on Full House, which feels a bit wild given the series ended when the two girls were like eight, and they didn’t return for the Fuller House spinoff decades later. Rider Strong also confirmed he’d heard a similar “trained with food” story, and that he heard that’s why so many Full House shots of the girls are singles. They were simply looking over and waiting to “get a cookie” or other snack if they fulfilled their duties on the show.

This isn’t the first time the food thing has come up, either, leading more credence to Friedle's behind-the-scenes story.

The other day, I was listening to a podcast where Jodie Sweetin was talking with Andrea Barber about the Olsen sisters when they all worked together on Full House. There had been rumors running around for years that Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen were incentivized with food on set, and Sweetin sort of alluded to it in an episode of “How Rude, Tanneritos.”

We’d previously covered when a fan asked, “Was there ever a point where the directors would favor working with one twin over the other?” The answer was Ashley was more into it, and was more easy-going when it came to working scenes. However, Sweetin went on to note they would really only fight when it came to scenes where there would be sweet treats doled out, and they both wanted the snacks.

It’s tough out there to be child actors, and Will Friedle and Rider Strong have also previously touched on this. Regardless, the girls’ agent, Michael Pagnotta, has said they had complete autonomy over where their careers went as they got older, noting it was the Olsens decision when they bailed “on all the entertainment stuff.” Ultimately, at the end of the day, they are in a place now with their lives and careers where they can do what they want, but the public fascination has not subsided, and it may be a long time before it will.

In the history of TV families, Full House stands out as a beloved property that has been fondly remembered for decades, and that eventually even led to the Fuller House spinoff. They didn’t have the same choice to be in the industry she feels she had as a younger person. On her end, the struggles in her career actually came as her years as a child actor were ending. She wasn’t sure what she would do as an adult, but she also didn’t have the millions of eyeballs following her every single moment in public her onscreen sisters did.

She’s not really surprised Mary-Kate and Ashley ultimately left the industry. (Mostly, Mary-Kate had a few roles as an adult.) Time passed and the cast grew apart. Sweetin opened up about finally seeing the Olsens at Bob Saget’s funeral in 2022, and how she feels about their relationship changing over time.

Everyone reunited in 2022 at Bob Saget's "punk rock shiva," which also featured appearances from fellow comedians like Dave Chappelle and Jeff Ross, his pal John Mayer, and the dudes in the Full House cast. Since then, they've gone their separate ways again. Unlike the older gang, Sweetin thinks the age gap is one of the reasons the girls separated themselves from the rest of the Full House cast, who really have supported one another publicly and came together for the revival, which is still available to watch with a Netflix subscription.

Now, just because Sweetin doesn’t feel any ill will towards the twins doesn’t mean there aren’t occasionally differences of opinion and disagreements within the cast. Candace Cameron Bure’s exit from Hallmark and comments about “traditional marriage” did inspire Sweetin to speak out against her co-star a while back. They obviously have appeared together at events since, but sometimes a full house can lead to conflict.

Of course, this former employee's account should be taken with a grain of salt, though the rationale admittedly doesn't seem too far-fetched. Mary-Kate and Ashley are no longer the little girls who would say “You got it, dude!” on Full House (which is streaming with a Hulu subscription). They’re now in their late 30s and have redefined themselves as fashion icons.

This claim also track with comments previously shared by Mary-Kate Olsen. She said she really hated her and her sister’s nicknames like “The Olsen Twins” or “The Twins” or “The Girls,” feeling it would undervalue their role as designers and grown businesswomen. While it may be a habit to constantly refer to The Olsens by their old childhood monikers, these two are indeed adults and have been for a while.

So yes, there was a preferred twin at the show’s beginning. But it was not about favoritism. It was simply about which little girl was willing to be the youngest Tanner in that exact moment. Honestly, it is a miracle the show captured as many unforgettable Michelle moments as it did.

It's Fashion Week in New York City and, if there’s any time to see celebrities out and about, it’s during that span of time. The Olsen twins stepped out together for a Fashion Week celebration at Eleven Madison Park Restaurant, which was hosted by W Magazine and Bloomingdale's. If anything, it’s nice to see these two together again. They may look similar, but they both look absolutely stunning and radiant -- and they also have reason to be so glowing. The Olsens have seemingly achieved the private lives they have long craved since retiring from acting.

One of the best things that I loved about Sister, Sister was Mary-Kate and Ashley’s season 4 cameo in the episode “Slime Party” (which is available to stream on your Hulu subscription). Now that I know the Mowry twins babysat the Olsens, I can imagine what a sweet reunion it must have been for everyone. Sitcom moments like these were really special in blending ‘90s star power—even more so when you have twin energy with which to fill the screen.

I don't think we'll soon get any sort of confirmation or denial for the two stories that he’s freshly shared with the world. Not only has West claimed he’s had a romantic encounter with Madonna, but his new story involving Full House alum Ashley Olsen contributes some fresh context to an old lyric.

As an Olsen family fan, I’m thrilled that Elizabeth shook the job-like feelings of acting off, or at least came to terms with them. And after all, Mary-Kate and Ashley’s reign is unlike anything else and not a realistic model for anyone who is part of the dynamic duo. I'm sure the vital piece of advice her sisters gave her as she began her adult career didn't hurt either.

Relatively rare is the celebrity who achieves momentous heights of fame and then steps away from the spotlight in order to focus on more idealized goals, but Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen could probably write the book on it. The Full House vets became multi-bazillionaires as adolescents, spinning out one successful project after another before leaving acting behind for the spotlight of the fashion industry. And they stuck together the entire time, all while hating being referred to as “the Olsen twins.”

At an age when many people are struggling to understand themselves and what their path in life is, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen were already setting themselves up to become their own bosses for decades to come. Now, former publicist Michael Pagnotta has opened up to US Weekly about the siblings’ keen business sense and ability to thrive from such a young age. In his mind, that ability came from constantly staying informed about everything behind the scenes. As he put it:

Pagnotta worked alongside the twin superstars from the age of 5 through their career transitions at age 18, so he was obviously there as Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen skyrocketed from being cutie-pie sitcom co-stars to media moguls to haute fashion designers. And he said from the very start of their shared time together, both sisters were kept in the memo loop.

Full House led the Olsens to developing an empire of made-for-TV movies, Hollywood features, books, video games, makeup lines, dolls, and a host of other branded items. (I know somebody out there had an Olsen twin telephone.) And the way Michael Pagnotta saw it, it was when they were able to tap into their non-acting creativity that they settled in. (And presumably also stayed on top of everything happening in their companies.) In his words:

The sisters' combined net worth is reportedly somewhere north of $500 million, which isnt' the kind of money that comes from being lazy or weak-willed, and I can't imagine Mary-Kate or Ashley Olsen would ever be described in such a way. (Plus, Ashley became a mom for the first time in August 2023, which also doesn't allow much room for laziness.) But it's not entirely the massive wealth that makes them role models.

Pagnotta thinks it's the fact that they molded their career to fit their personalities and talents that makes them so beloved and somewhat enigmatic to fans. He said:

Considering Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen have remained away from the TV spotlight for years now — they turned down Michelle's Fuller House return — fans probably shouldn't expect to see them popping up in any 2024 TV premieres, but one can always hope.

The 2024 Summer Olympics are just around the corner and, as such, some of the U.S.’ greatest athletes have been competing in the trials in order to punch their ticket to Paris. One of the many sports stars who’s looking to further etch their name in Olympic history is gymnast Simone Biles, who’s already considered to be one of if not the best in her sport. Well, likely to few fans’ surprise, Biles managed to earn a spot on this year’s team! She recently took to social media to react to the exciting development, and her post was met with a plethora of responses. But what really caught my eye was one fan, who posted an A+ reaction that referenced Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen.

What Was The Olsen Twin Joke And Why Is It So Perfect?

Simone Biles took to X (formerly Twitter) to celebrate the news that she’d been named to the U.S. Olympic women’s gymnastics team. The four-time Olympic gold medalist kept her response short and to the point, as she simply said, “WE ARE GOING TO PARIS”. Fans subsequently flooded her comments section with well wishes and various forms of support. Among those who reposted the message was @DossickCarly, who cheekily referenced the Olsen twins in the following way:

Even if you didn’t grow up watching Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen’s vast array of direct-to-video movies during the ‘90s and early 2000s, you may at least have been aware of them. Many of those films not only saw the two playing various characters but also traveling to a plethora of locations across the globe. Our Lips Are Sealed, Winning London and Holiday in the Sun are just a few examples of such features. But the one that the X user is alluding to with her post is 1999’s Passport to Paris. The Parisian romp sees the Olsens playing teenage twins who spend their spring break in the City of Lights with their estranged grandfather.

As someone who grew up with a younger sister who was a fan of the Olsen twins (and watched some of the movies myself), I can certainly appreciate this nod to late ‘90s pop culture. It honestly makes me a bit nostalgic, and it’s also a stark reminder of the fruits of Mary-Kate and Ashley’s long-standing collaboration with each other. I’m not sure if Simone Biles grew up watching the twins’ work, but I’d hope that she could appreciate the social media user’s joke. However, I know she has more pressing thoughts on her mind right now.

Why Are The Olympics A Big Deal For Simone Biles This Year?

27-year-old Simone Biles earned her spot on the women’s team after notching a competition win in Minneapolis this past weekend. With this honor, she’s now officially the first female gymnast to land a spot on the team per USA Today. This will mark Biles’ fourth time as an Olympian, as she previously competed at the games in London, Rio de Janeiro and Tokyo. All in all, she’s earned a total of seven Olympic medals. Joining her on the team will be Sunisa Lee, Jordan Chiles, Hezly Rivera and Jade Carey. I’d expect Biles to serve as a firm leader for this group of Olympians.

Plenty of folks will surely be tuning in to see how the group performs and, now, I’m wondering if the Olsen twins will be among those watching. It’s hard to say, as the two are quite busy these days. The former child actors – who were part of some of the best Full House episodes years ago, have since become fashion moguls, currently overseeing their own luxury label, The Row. They’ve been praised by their peers, with their label’s production manager, Joe Karban, declaring that “everything Mary-Kate and Ashley do turns to gold.” Of course, they also have their personal lives, and Ashley gave birth to her first child with husband, Louis Eisner, in 2023. So, yeah, they have a lot on their plates.

Anyone who will be checking out the festivities, though, has a lot to look forward to, including coverage from Kelly Clarkson, Snoop Dogg and more. The competition is sure to be fierce, but I expect Simone Biles to bring her A-game. And, hopefully, her time in Paris is just as memorable as the Olsen twins’ on-screen excursion was.

It’s felt like Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen have been in the business for a long time. In fact, however, they left Hollywood behind nearly 15 years ago now. Despite this, and in spite of their particularly private personal lives, the sisters have managed to stay in the spotlight. And it’s all thanks to their business savvy. 

Their high-end clothing line The Row has been buzzy since the line launched in 2006. The story goes that Ashley didn’t like the fit of most t-shirts, and wanted to build one that was “the perfect fit” with “perfect fabric,” per WWD. The brand launched a 7-piece collection and has grown exponentially, adding menswear and children’s clothing and reportedly hitting the $100 million in sales mark in 2021. 

If you were to ask The Row’s Production Manager Joe Karban it’s because the former actresses really have a keen sense when it comes to fashion and the team they’ve hired to make the clothes that are flying off of shelves. Joe told the New York Times what they do "turns to gold." 

The careful attention to detail has been a prominent signature of their entire careers, as the two women took charge early on. They created their own company Dualstar at a young age to produce their own '90s movies. In the early 2000s they took their movie and TV fame to another level by creating their own clothing line at Walmart. As adults, they've parlayed this fame into high-end fashion, and it's paid off. 

Among the most impressive stats? Nearly 20 years in, The Row is exploding even more in popularity. Gwyneth Paltrow famously wore the brand to enhance her “courtcore” looks when she went on the stand in her viral ski crash trial last year. The fashion line’s popular Margaux tote blew up earlier in 2024, becoming the most popular product in Q1, with reports mentioning the hand bag growing in search volume by 198%.  The cheapest versions of the bag retail for over $5,000 dollars.

Not that the twins even want the spotlight. Ashley Olsen admitted that running a brand comes with some of the same cons that acting does, in terms of there just needing to be “face time” in order to continue. She revealed that’s really not the vibe she and her sister want.

But people are still very interested in what the actresses do. Any mention of the girls by John Stamos about their time on Full House is big news. Any feature in the media about what’s going on in Ashley or Mary-Kate's personal lives makes the front page of the Internet. Their fame and the focus on their fame very nearly convinced their sister Elizabeth Olsen to change her name. 

It makes sense. Many millennials in particular have followed their fashion and trajectories since they were young stars on Full House and traveled the world with them in their teens through movies like Passport to Paris and When in Rome. Now those kids have money to burn of their own, and they’re burning it on fashion from The Row. $100 million per year’s worth. While it may come with cons, it's not a bad way to stay relevant.  

It’s easy to see how the child actors who starred on Full House in the late ‘80s and early ‘90s formed real relationships with each other. Candace Cameron Bure, Jodie Sweetin, Mary-Kate Olsen and her twin sister Ashley spent eight years of their childhoods playing the Tanner sisters, and just like in any family, different dynamics formed between the individual actors. Sweetin recently opened up about what that was like, explaining why she and the Olsen twins were much closer than her and Bure back then.

Jodie Sweetin took some time away from her How Rude, Tanneritos! podcast to sit down with former co-star Dave Coulier on his show Full House Rewind, and when the Joey Gladstone portrayer asked if she’d been closer to Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen or Candace Cameron Bure, Sweetin did not have to think about it, telling the host: 

That makes a lot of sense, especially when considering that Candace Cameron Bure had older siblings who gave her the same kind of grief she would go on to pass down to her TV sister. 

At that age I'm sure Bure was more comfortable hanging out with Andrea Barber or Scott Weinger when he joined the series in 1991. While most little sisters do crave their older siblings’ attention, it doesn’t sound like Jodie Sweetin was too upset about playing big sis to Ashley and Mary-Kate. The Stephanie actress continued: 

Because the Full House cast has remained so close, we’ve been privy to some of the inevitable drama over the years. For example, some people (i.e. John Stamos) were angry when the Olsen twins didn’t want to reunite with the rest of the cast for Fuller House (although Jodie Sweetin had the best explanation for why that was). Dave Coulier has confirmed that they “bicker” with one another just like any family, and we all know about the supposed feud that allegedly caused Candace Cameron Bure to unfollow Sweetin on Instagram.

But it’s been a pleasure for those of us who grew up with the Tanners to see all the good moments, too, like their reunion at Jodie Sweetin’s wedding and how they came together following Bob Saget’s death. 

Jodie Sweetin may not see as much of the Olsen twins these days as her other co-stars, as they continue to reunite for 90s Con, podcasts and other Full House-related projects, but there’s likely nothing that can break that sibling bond that formed so early in their lives. As two of the most successful examples from various fields — former child actors, fashion designers, co-CEOs, etc. — Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen have been tag-team monoliths in the worlds of pop culture and business for nearly as long as they’ve been alive. But even though they’ve achieved so many goals as a duo, that doesn’t mean they always want to be viewed through such a generalized lens. And it’s being dubbed nicknames like “the girls” that apparently help inspire them to stay out of the spotlight.

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen turned 37 in 2023, with their combined net worth reportedly cresting somewhere around $500 million, and that money wasn’t made by balking on their values and settling for less. Which is why they’ve maintained the same semi-anonymous approach to their wildly successful brand The Row, with Mary-Kate telling Financial Times that she still gets bothered with the way they’re viewed and spoken about by others. In her words:

To her point that they’re not a singular unit, Ashley Olsen added a new member of her still-burgeoning family last year, reportedly having a baby boy in August 2023, around nine months after marrying her long-time love Louis Eisner. Can’t talk about that wonderful life moment by starting a sentence with "the twins."

Mary-Kate Olsen continued, implying the generalizing and infantalizing nature of the language helped turn them away from being central to The Row's marketing and promotion.

While it would be impossible to pinpoint exact causes, I can only speculate that Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen's explosive success as ubiquitous child stars throughout the 1990s and early 2000s helped to cement the public's conceptualization problems. Language habits sadly die as hard as any.

Though Full House's Michelle was only one character, co-stars like John Stamos, Candace Cameron-Bure, Dave Coulier have talked about the TGIF sitcom so much over the years, and often talk about them as "the girls" or "the twins" when speaking about them at that young age. And that talk only intensified during the years when Fuller House was airing, as neither Mary-Kate nor Ashley Olsen returned to reprise the role of the youngest Tanner sister. For my money, Jodie Sweetin voiced the most logical reason for it, but it's entirely possible that neither one of them wanted to face a Netflix-sized burst of new fans sticking with old nicknames.

But it's not as if either of The Row's privacy-embracing co-founders are without a sense of humor regarding their lack of publicity. As Mary-Kate put it when asked about their social media gameplan:

Even when they're not the main point of focus, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen are still an ever-present force in the zeitgeist. Most recently, they've entered into speculation over Taylor Swift’s upcoming album The Tortured Poets Department, with one of our biggest questions so far centering on what it could mean that Swift is donning a pair of The Row's undies on the proposed album cover. Or was that just a low-key nod to poet and essayist Henry David Thoreau?

While everyone thought the re-release of Reputation would be Taylor Swift’s next project, she surprised the world by announcing a totally new album called The Tortured Poets Department. The title alone evokes a lot of questions about what the project will be about and why she decided to write these songs. However, after the track list came out, it became clear that this is likely a break-up album, and the questions started overflowing.

So, now we’re here to break some of them down. How are Harry Styles and The Little Mermaid connected to a song on Swift’s 17-song track list? Is this album about Swift’s breakup with Joe Alwyn? How are the Olsen Twins involved with this project’s style? All those inquiries and more will be discussed and theorized below, so let’s get into it.

How Could The Little Mermaid And Harry Styles Be Connected To “But Daddy I Love Him?”

So, there’s a lot to unpack with Swift’s track “But Daddy I Love Him,” which you can see in the tracklist below. Right after the tracklist was announced, Swifties were quick to connect this song to both The Little Mermaid and the singer’s ex Harry Styles, which is an unexpected combo.

Let’s start with The Little Mermaid. Over on Twitter, @pizzalynda pointed out that Ariel (whom Swift dressed up as for Halloween in 2019) says “But Daddy I love him” while talking to her dad about the prince she trades her voice for. That movie came out in 1989, which was the year Swift was born, and the name of her album that supposedly features songs about her ex Harry Styles.   

This brings us to the “Adore You” singer, who fans suspect is the subject of many Vault tracks on the re-release of 1989. There’s a famous photo of him wearing a T-shirt that reads “But Daddy I love him," which you can see in @kingofmyhearts tweet about the subject. That is an odd coincidence. 

Is this song about Styles? Or is it about Joe Alwyn? In The Little Mermaid, Ursula takes Ariel’s voice so she can meet and fall in love with the prince. While Swift was with her ex, she lived mostly in private. This has led some fans to believe that this track will be about the actor rather than the former One Direction member. That theory tracks too when you consider other songs on the album, like the one we’ll talk about next, “Clara Bow.” 

Who Is Clara Bow?

While Taylor Swift is no stranger to literary and Old Hollywood references, “Clara Bow” will be the first time she’s named a song after an old film star. Now, the question becomes: Why would she do that?

Well, Clara Bow was a film star in the silent era, according to EW. She’s “considered an icon of sexual freedom for women,” and the article noted that she was known for playing emancipated women. She faced lots of public scrutiny for her love life as it was clouded by rumors and gossip. According to The Guardian, Bow was “brazen,” and even when she was ruling Hollywood as a movie star, she was alone and secluded.

She eventually left acting behind, and she went to live in Nevada with Rex Bell. Reportedly, he didn’t like her “showing herself off,” EW explained. Looking back, the rumors and gossip surrounding her personal life are overwhelming, and it’s caused her career to be in the shadows. 

Now, the parallels to Taylor Swift seem obvious. From a career standpoint, both women have faced scrutiny over the rumors surrounding their personal lives, and specifically their love lives. Many Swifties have also made the connection that Bow’s legacy as a silent film star is comparable to the pop star living a very private (and silent) life while she was dating Joe Alwyn. 

In the song “Bejeweled,” Swift sings about being trapped and not being able to shine, that could have a myriad of meanings, but it’s been theorized that her private relationship could have something to do with it. So, could that also be what “Clara Bow” is related to? We’ll find out in April. And while we wait for that, I’ll be looking at Swift’s Grammys outfit and her jewelry, and thinking about how it looks a whole lot like Bow’s sparkly look shown above. 

How Are The Olsen Twins Involved In The Tortured Poets Department? 

There’s no denying that the album cover for The Tortured Poets Department is unlike anything we’ve seen from Swift before. It’s sexy and sultry and shows her lying on a white bed in black lingerie. This is where Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen come in. 

If you look at the briefs Swift is wearing in the image (which you can see below), according to her stylist (via People) and @taylorswiftstyled on Instagram, they’re made by The Row, which is Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen’s fashion brand. 

Per @taylorswiftstyled, the shorts are called the “Ausra Brief” and they retail for $790. So, while there are famous folks who supposedly inspire Swift’s music, and there are A-list singers and performers she collaborates with, when it comes to The Olsen twins, they’re involved with the pop star indirectly through fashion.

Why Are Swifites Talking About A Group Chat Joe Alwyn Had With Paul Mescal?  

The alleged answer to this one is pretty simple. In an episode of Variety’s Actors on Actors in 2022, Paul Mescal and Joe Alwyn revealed the group chat they have with Andrew Scott called “Tortured Man Club.” Here’s how the conversation went down:

Paul Mescal: What’s the name of the What’s App group that we’re in? Tortured…

Joe Alwyn: It’s either the Tortured or the Lonley, Tortured Man Club, I think. You, me and Andrew [Scott]. It hasn’t had much use recently.

Paul Mescal: No, I feel like we’re less tortured now.

Both men starred in Sally Rooney adaptations — Alwyn in Conversations With Friends and Mescal in Normal People  (which can be viewed with a Hulu subscription) — and played sad boys. Both series are very emotional and melodramatic, and the actors both have a tendency to pick sad projects. While they didn’t confirm that that’s what inspired the name, they did immediately chat about their shows right after opening up about the group chat. 

So, immediately after Swift announced The Tortured Poets Society this connection was made. Now, Swifties can’t stop thinking about how her eleventh album’s title is coincidentally similar to her ex’s group chat. 

Obviously, the pop star has not confirmed if the group chat inspired her album’s title. However, there’s no denying that it’s at the very least a wild coincidence. 

What Does “loml” Mean?

Overall, it feels like The Tortured Poets Department is a breakup album. However, “loml,” which typically means “love of my life,” is a happy thing. Therefore, I have many questions about this.

Swift said she’s been working on this project for two years. That means it could track the process of her breakup. Will it be a song using hindsight looking back on the good days of a relationship? Will it be a deceiving title for an incredibly sad song? Will it be something totally different, and will this album address her relationship with Travis Kelce? The questions surrounding “loml” are endless. However, we are almost certain that it stands for “love of my life.” 

According to Travis Kelce, The Tortured Poets Society is “unbelievable,” and with all these questions floating around about the meanings buried in the songs and the branding, I totally believe him. It feels like we’re really in for a wild ride with this project that appears to be all about a breakup. And while we wait for TTPS’s release on April 19, I’ll be pondering all these questions and how they’ll eventually be answered. 

Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen are very much out of the limelight these days, though any updates on their personal lives – like Ashley’s formerly secret pregnancy – are still topics of high interest. However, when the two were still doing interviews in support of their Row fashion line, they appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres show and admitted their Full House co-stars were kind of inappropriate on set whenever they were filming the family-friendly ‘90s series.

The full clip with Ellen DeGeneres does have them recalling some memories “like being in a shower with Dave [Coulier],” though neither woman can agree on whether these moments are “memories” or just remembering “old footage” they’d seen of themselves. Regardless, they were never very old when they were filming the series, so it’s interesting to hear Ashley open up about what she does remember from the set of Full House.

As you may remember, Michelle Tanner was a youngster on Full House early on and was six-months old when the series started. Over eight seasons, we saw Mary Kate and Ashley grow up on the ABC sitcom – except for that brief period when John Stamos got the Olsen Twins fired. Years later, they do still catch themselves on TV “sometimes,” with Ashley also noting the fandom sticking with the show over the years has been “incredible.”

Part of the reason the fandom lived on was because Netflix revitalized the series with the addition of Fuller House, which brought back most of the original cast and introduced the Tanner family to a whole new generation of audiences. While the twins  were noticeably absent from the Netflix show – despite John Stamos asking the Olsens to return myriad times – the characters were still mentioned occasionally. And other big namestays, including Stamos but also Andrea Barber, Jodie Sweetin, Candace Cameron Bure, Dave Coulier, and Bob Saget, who passed away shortly after FH ended, all returned.

In the past, Bure, a noted christian, spoke out about how she and Saget differed in points of view when it came to thinks like raunchy humor, but she said that she truly feels you can separate people from their comedy and find common ground with anyone.

It's not a surprise to hear some of this comedy bled onto the set of Full House (and probably Fuller House too). But it also sounds like working with three comedians was generally a whole lot of fun -- whatever happened to predictability, anyway?

Full House star John Stamos has been consistently making headlines lately tied to the release of his new memoir If You Would Have Told Me, which hit bookshelves a week ahead of Halloween’s arrival. The actor did have some scary topics to discuss when chatting with Howard Stern, by way of his bouts with alcoholism, but it wasn’t all cautionary tales. The Grandfathered vet also revealed the big way Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen shared their love and appreciation for Full House in the years after they’d rejected offers to reprise the role of Michelle Tanner for Netflix’s Fuller House. 

For the most part, Stamos is the Full House vet who’d most often shared feelings about the Olsen twins choosing to remain out of the TV spotlight throughout Fuller House’s five-season run. During his latest appearance on The Howard Stern Show, the actor addressed the fact that his initially angry reaction didn’t help the matter (even though his comments did spark the siblings to present him with a porkchop of solidarity). But he also said Mary-Kate and Ashley smoothed things over with their former cast members while at Bob Saget’s funeral, and in a way that was quite meaningful to Stamos and others. In his words:

For all that the Fuller House stars were genial and polite about the Tanner family never fully coming together again without Michelle around, it's not out of the question to think that some of the stars even beyond Stamos might have felt miffed by it. But hopefully by sharing such loving words at Bob Saget's funeral, the twins put others' minds at ease and convinced them it wasn't a personal dig. 

To be sure, John Stamos definitely came around to understanding why Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen chose not to step back into the role of Michelle Tanner now as full-grown adults with hugely successful business ventures to their names. Co-star Jodie Sweetin arguably explained it best by pointing out that Full House was over before the Olsens hit double-digit ages, and so their time on the sitcom wasn't as formative an experience as it was for the rest of the cast, as they wouldn't have had nearly as many memories about the earliest seasons. 

Of course, Dave Coulier's tale about farting in his kid co-star's faces could have also played a part in why some of those memories may have been repressed. Someone check and see if they had any "no-farts clauses" in their contracts. 

Bob Saget's death in early 2022 was a huge blow to the comedic actor's fanbase, as well as to the fellow cast members that had become his makeshift family in the years since Full House came together. And it marked one of the first times that Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen spoke publicly about their TV dad, albeit in the form of a prepared statement.

While the Olsen sisters never opted in for more Tanner family fun, the show did drops some references to them throughout the years, including that final straight-to-camera joke in the penultimate episode. And fans can catch that and all the rest by streaming Fuller House in full with a Netflix subscription.

Even though it’s been years since the Tanner family last graced our screens altogether, they are still close. (Seemingly aside from one public fallout involving Candace Cameron Bure and Jodie Sweetin.) After Ashley Olsen secretly welcomed her first child, some of her Full House castmates reacted to the news. Andrea Barber and Sweetin were appropriately feeling old after finding out “the baby had a baby.” Now John Stamos is sharing a sweet throwback himself.

Everyone’s favorite Uncle took to Instagram to share some throwback footage from his Full House days with Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen. His voiceover can be heard throughout the video, as he seems to be reading from his upcoming memoir If You Would Have Told Me. He talks about the Twins getting cast and how he knew “right away” that the relationship between Jesse and Michelle would be an “important one.” 

John Stamos went on to say that he wanted to have kids one day, and while the show was filming, he treated his on-screen nieces like his own, “watching from afar.” It was a nice place to be to get to be involved with not too much responsibility. In his caption, Stamos also praised the twins and congratulated Ashley Olsen on her bundle of joy:

Full House was decades ago, and while it was likely a matter of time before Mary-Kate or Ashley Olsen had a baby, it's still hard to believe how quickly time has passed. It seems it’s been hitting much of the cast the same, as Stamos' comments mention how it's been almost 40 years since they all met, a stat that is extremely striking.

Looking at this post, it’s a little hard to believe that John Stamos got the Olsen Twins temporarily fired when Full House just started. It just took some time for him to realize that they were perfect for Michelle and that their bond would only grow from there. 

Like any family, there was some tension and hardships after the series ended, mostly when it came to Fuller House. Mary-Kate and Ashley were not part of the Netflix reboot despite getting asked multiple times. Stamos previously opened up about how he was angry at the Twins for not doing Fuller House, but after they brought over some pork and they talked, they have stayed close since.

Just less than two weeks ago, it was reported that Ashley Olsen had given birth to a baby boy named Otto. The news comes after Olsen married artist Louis Eisner in December 2022. Evidently, the two welcomed their son months ago in New York. Considering it’s hard to keep a secret these days as a celebrity, it’s impressive that they were able to hide the pregnancy and give birth without the public knowing. Since neither twin is seen in the spotlight much anymore after retiring from acting as they’ve been focused on their growing fashion empire, it's probably easier than it might have been previously to hide big news. 

Seeing the bond John Stamos still feels with both twins is very sweet. Now, perhaps he can be like an uncle to Olsen’s baby, and the cycle will continue. To see Stamos be Uncle Jesse to the Olsen twins, though, be sure to stream all seasons of Full House with a Max subscription.

Even if she’s not exactly pumped about it, Jodie Sweetin’s newest TV movie is set to share the same home as her former co-star Candace Cameron Bure, all while she’s currently co-hosting the Full House flashback podcast with fellow Fuller House vet Andrea Barber. And just in case that wasn’t enough connective tissue for everyone, the latest installment of that weekly project, titled How Rude, Tanneritos, featured the host duo reflecting on the recent news that Ashley Olsen gave birth to her first child with hubby Louis Eisner after keeping the pregnancy a complete secret.

The most recent release of How Rude, Tanneritos, titled “The Return of Grandma,” focuses on the fourth episode of the TGIF classic, which brought Joey and Jesse’s moms into the mix, while also centering on the latter’s life-saving turtle Bubba. Upon reaching the point in the episode when the family is heading out the door without Michelle, who was temporarily forgotten within her playpen, the co-stars addressed the surprise news about Olsen’s bundle of joy, with Barber stating with mild shock: 

Jodie Sweetin sounded just as excitedly blown away by the concept that their younger former co-star is now a full-blown mom, saying:

Jodie Sweetin definitely knows a thing or two about motherhood, as she's the proud mom of two kids: daughters Zoie, who was born in 2008, and Beatrix, who was born in 2010. Similarly, Andrea Barber shares two kiddos with her ex-husband Jeremy Rytky, daughter Felicity and son Tate. It doesn't sound like either of them will be asked to babysit in the near future, considering how private and out of the spotlight Ashley Olsen and sister Mary-Kate have been throughout their financially successful adulthood.

Outside of memorial events surrounding the 2022 death of Bob Saget, it's not clear exactly how often the Full House cast gets to hang out with either of the Olsens, but hopefully there will be more than a few playdates in the future. In any case, Barber put it out there that everyone involved with the Tanner and Gibbler clans are pumped for the new arrival.

Ashley Olsen and Louis Eisner tied the knot back in December 2022, and she was possibly hiding her pregnancy even at that point, considering she gave birth in the late spring/early summer. Whatever the details are there, here's hoping the mother and son are as happy and healthy as can be.

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen are still household names for plenty of millennials, but the former Full House actresses stepped away from the spotlight years ago and did not return for the Fuller House spinoff. Now, Ashley Olsen has given birth to her first child with husband Louis Eisner, and managed to keep the entire situation very quiet. Her pregnancy wasn't even public knowledge, let alone the birth of her baby boy! 

TMZ reports that not only did Ashley Olsen manage to keep her pregnancy secret from the public for the duration, but she actually gave birth in New York months ago. The outlet gives the baby boy's name as Otto, and cites sources saying that she and her husband are very happy to be parents. Olsen married Louis Eisner, an artist, in late December of 2022. The former Full House actress has not publicly commented on the news that she is now a mother at the time of writing, and it remains to be seen if she ever will. 

The secret birth of baby Otto follows his parents marrying very quietly in late 2022. While they tied the knot on December 28, news didn't break that Ashley Olsen had married Louis Eisner until Page Six reported it on January 4 of 2023. According to one cited insider, the two reportedly wed with just "50 or so people" as guests present at a private home in Bel-Air. It's not clear when exactly the pair became happy parents to Otto, but it seems safe to say that they've had a very eventful year!

Along with her twin sister Mary-Kate, Ashley Olsen shifted her focus from acting to fashion and they have kept their lives relatively private since. In fact, their last starring role together was in the 2004 movie New York Minute, which released shortly before their 18th birthday. They stuck together professionally, however, to build a fashion empire, and they described their partnership as like "a marriage" with "ups and downs." In 2021, Ashley explained why they've continued working together for so long. As we now know, Ashley is now a mom and Mary-Kate is now an aunt!

There initially seemed to be at least a bit of bad blood between the Olsen twins and their former Full House co-stars, as they did not return for even a cameo on Fuller House, although the spinoff for Netflix subscribers did explain that Michelle was away in New York working on her fashion empire as a clear nod to the actresses who'd played her. Ultimately, however, John Stamos opened up about the olive branch that they extended, with Dave Coulier sharing why he can understand their decision and Jodie Sweetin giving a pretty great explanation.

Whether or not the Olsen twins ever return to the spotlight, I hope that Full House fans can all be happy for Ashley and her husband welcoming a bundle of joy, as well as being able to avoid the kind of public attention that the sisters were able to step away from years ago. Congratulations to Ashley Olsen and Louis Eisner on their growing family! 

It’s been just over three years since fans had to say goodbye to the Tanner family a second time after Netflix’s Fuller House came to an end. While the Full House revival included many familiar faces and callbacks to the beloved TGIF sitcom, the was a glaring hole in the cast, and that was the expected absence of Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen. The cast has opened up throughout the years about their feelings regarding the Olsen Twins not returning, and Dave Coulier was the latest to share his thoughts.

The Olsen Twins skyrocketed to superstardom at a young age when they were starring in Full House. After that, they went on to star in tons of movies and started a production company. These days aren't seen on screen much and they've moved into the world of fashion. When it came to the Fuller House reunion, they decided to not return, and Dave Coulier told Yahoo! Entertainment that the twins have it a bit different than the rest of the cast since they did start the show so young:

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen were nine months old when they were cast as Michelle, meaning they spent basically the first eight years of their lives on the series. Since then, they haven't really participated in any reunions. However, that doesn’t necessarily mean they don’t want anything to do with Full House since they did attend Bob Saget’s memorial in 2022. 

Considering the twins retired from acting over 10 years ago, it wasn’t surprising that they weren’t on Fuller House, but I think many of us were hoping they'd pop up.

Being a child star and starting so young, even before you can talk, is not easy. Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen were pretty much on the go for years, and being the youngest on the cast for the first five seasons as the show’s popularity grew probably made it even harder. Even though they did get to have family at work, as Elizabeth Olsen recalled being on the Full House set and seeing the audience and her sisters acting, being in that environment at a young age is likely taxing, and Dave Coulier understood it all:

With the Olsen Twins being so young on Full House, it sometimes made things hard, as John Stamos got them temporarily fired. Meanwhile, Fuller House poked fun at Mary-Kate and Ashley not appearing in the series, as it occasionally mentioned Michelle being too busy with her fashion empire to come home. It seems that everything is fine with them and the ensemble though, and while they didn't appear in the series, it’s nice to know they still support their castmates and vice versa.

A return for Michelle Tanner may not be in the cards any time if there’s another Full House spinoff, but things could always change. Since the Olsen Twins have been out of the game for a while and don’t seem to be in any rush to return to their acting roots, at least they’re not opposed to reuniting with their former co-stars. Fans can watch the fashion designers as Michelle on all eight seasons of Full House with a Max subscription.

America fell in love with the Tanner family on ABC’s Full House back in the late ‘80s, and the show’s run in syndication attracted and kept even more fans of multiple generations. Of course we loved dorky dad Danny Tanner, the odd-couple uncles Joey and Jesse who were helping him raise his daughters, and sassy sisters DJ and Stephanie. But Full House just wouldn’t have been the same without Michelle, who was played by 9-month-old twins Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen. Creator Jeff Franklin recalled the “bizarre” process of casting the youngest Tanner sister, and it sounds like the Olsen twins won the part pretty quickly!

In case that little factoid didn’t quite sink in, Ashley and Mary-Kate (who turned 37 in June) were just 6 months old when they auditioned and won the part of Michelle Tanner — a role they continued to play for the duration of Full House’s eight-season run. Jeff Franklin spoke with Dave Coulier on the Full House Rewind podcast about what goes into casting characters that young, explaining: 

Being “great with strange people” is actually a really great qualification to put on a resume, don’t you think? 

The scenario that Jeff Franklin described does sound pretty wild, and in less than an hour, the twins' entire lives were changed forever (though for the crew who had to spend 40 minutes in a room with 32 screaming babies, it probably felt like an eternity). 

Michelle Tanner would go on to win over the hearts of America with adorable catchphrases like, “You got it, dude,” and “You’re in big trouble, mister.” I seriously can’t get over that decision being made in under an hour. How did they know the Olsen twins would be such natural actors?

Unfortunately it wasn’t smooth sailing in the very beginning, as John Stamos, who played their Uncle Jesse, confirmed that while filming the pilot he actually got the Olsen twins fired, but he ended up asking for them back a few days later, and THEN, the rest was history. Mary-Kate and Ashley went on to do their own thing post-Full House, but ultimately retired from acting at the ripe old age of 25. 

When Candace Cameron Bure and most of the original cast reunited for the spinoff Fuller House in 2016, the Olsen twins opted not to join them. While this made John Stamos angry, the rest of the TV family seemed to understand, and Jodie Sweetin explained in the best way why their decision actually made perfect sense.

Much ado was made about Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen’s decision not to reprise their roles as Michelle Tanner for the 2016 spinoff Fuller House. Not only were fans disappointed, but the show made several references to their absence over the course of its five seasons. Apparently it rubbed some of the cast the wrong way too, as John Stamos — who has admitted to getting the Olsen twins “temporarily fired” from the ‘80s sitcom — recently opened up about being angry that they didn’t join the Netflix series, and the unusual olive branch they extended. 

John Stamos has been championing Bob Saget’s legacy for over a year now, since the comedian died suddenly last January from a head trauma. Members of the cast have consistently credited the Full House patriarch with ensuring the family remained close, and the Uncle Jesse actor told the And That’s What You REALLY Missed podcast it was mostly Saget who kept in touch with the Olsen twins, despite their refusal to return to acting with the rest of the family. He said: 

Bob Saget understood Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen’s decision to not appear on Fuller House, but it was apparently more of a struggle for his TV brother-in-law. John Stamos admitted to being upset with them, and told the podcast about the odd olive branch the fashion moguls offered: 

Sure, a frozen porkchop may seem like a random way to say, “We’re sorry,” but I’ve got to say, there are probably a few arguments in my lifetime that could have been resolved quicker if someone had brought me dinner, so I can’t hate on this. And it seems to have worked, as John Stamos said they remained close afterward!

Jodie Sweetin offered the best reasoning for why the Olsen twins didn’t want to reprise their role as Michelle Tanner in pointing out that they were 8 years old when the series ended. For all of the other cast members, the eight years on Full House was a significant stretch of their lives, but for Ashley and Mary-Kate, most of their memories were formed after the sitcom wrapped.

The twins’ Tanner family seems to understand why the Mary-Kate and Ashley cameo never happened, but that didn’t keep the show from making it a running gag over the seasons. The Fuller House characters broke the fourth wall several times over its five seasons to make pointed statements about their little sister, starting in the series premiere and ending with one final Olsen twins joke in its final episodes. 

It’s good that John Stamos and the Olsen twins were able to bury the hatchet, and if you want to relive any of the Tanner family fun, Full House is available for streaming with a Hulu subscription or to HBO Max subscription holders. Fuller House, meanwhile, can be streamed with a Netflix subscription.  

Being a parent can easily turn into one of the most frustrating experiences in the world, to say nothing of all the amazing moments and memories. And that frustration can stretch beyond normal means whenever one is dealing with disruptive kids that aren’t even theirs, such as it went for Full House star John Stamos in the earliest days of filming the ABC sitcom. While his Elvis-loving, jolly-rocking character Jesse may have exuded coolness and ‘anything goes” vibes, the actor himself wasn’t necessarily such a free spirit at the time, as indicated by Stamos directly and intentionally getting Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen fired just for being babies, albeit of the screaming and uncontrollable variety.

To be sure, John Stamos has spoken about getting the Olsens fired before in the past, though he was perhaps a bit more spirited in going back down that specific part of memory lane while appearing on the Good Guys Podcast with hosts Josh Peck and Ben Soffer. As fans probably remember, Stamos and Peck worked together on the Fox comedy Grandfathered (which naturally featured a noteworthy Full House reunion during its single season), and so the sitcom and soap opera vet definitely wasn’t shy about taking responsibility for getting a pair of 11-month-old kids fired. Here’s how he put it when Peck asked if he’d “tried” to get the Olsens canned. 

At that point, Josh Peck and Ben Soffer commented on the twins being so miserable, and joked that maybe Hollywood shouldn't put kids to work, and that maybe child actors should be protected more. (An idea that should probably be shouted from mountaintops in regards to Dave Coulier sharing a story about farting on one of the Olsens.)  Which then led into more of John Stamos self-awarely griping about babies around 35 years after the fact.

To be fair, Stamos was being mostly non-offending when bemusedly talking about Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen's replacements being not so attractive, but as soon as that came up, Peck and Soffer ran with the idea that redheads fall on both sides of extremes where looks are concerned, but not so much anywhere in the middle. Soffer also joked that you have to keep some of them in the closet, because "you just can't show these kids, I'm sorry," which made me laugh harder than I'd care to admit.

In any case, Stamos didn't make it sound like the ginger twins who were brought in were on the same kind of screaming-at-everything level as the Olsens, but he said it didn't last a week before he clamored for the producers to bring the original infants back into the role. 

Josh Peck was very curious to learn whether or not the redheaded twins' parents were knowledgable that their kids had just been fired due to Stamos' complaints, but the actor said he wasn't aware of what their situation was. But he did confirm, as it were, that the year-old twins were almost definitely clueless about getting shitcanned.

Maybe if we ever get another Full House spinoff, which Stamos has been wary about being open to, the producers can somehow talk the Olsens AND the unidentified redheaded twins into coming back. Not so likely, since the former duo were hard set against reprising the role of Michelle for Fuller House, but that's what dreams are for.

And when you get to Season 8's episode featuring Shorty the Donkey, take a second to recall the guest-starring animal was particularly attracted to Stamos while filming, which he also wasn't very happy about.

When it comes to TV families whose bonds became just as strong in real life as they were on-screen, it’s hard to consider a more on-brand example than the Full House cast, who eagerly came together anew for Netflix’s Fuller House, since most had already stayed in touch over the years anyway. But perhaps the most irrefutable proof of the stars’ bonds being unbreakable? Everyone’s ability to live and thrive for all those years alongside Dave Coulier’s proclivity for farting, both authentically and in jest, which hilariously included acts such as passing gas right into one of the itty-bitty Olsen twins’ faces. [laughs like Popeye] Whoa. 

Dave Coulier reunited with co-stars of television and life Candace Cameron Bure, Jodie Sweetin and Andrea Barber for a fun and faux-flatulent Full House panel at the first of two ‘90s Con 2023 events, and I’d be remiss if I didn’t bring up the fact that one of the first things those in attendance witnessed from the Uncle Joey portrayer was him pretended to toot-toot on Sweetin as the four sat squished in on a single couch. (Tanner family style all the way, even if there was some bickering going on in the months prior.) Coulier also had quite a bit of fun throughout the panel testing the ASL interpreter’s ability to properly portray farts of varying sizes. 

So perhaps it shouldn’t have been a surprise to hear this delightfully icky tale that Jodie Sweetin set Coulier up for:

Obviously, everybody on stage and off started cracking up as he talked. And I think everyone can picture what Dave Coulier's face probably looked like at the time he gassed it up in one of the kids' faces. 

The Full House star continued joking about potentially having affected Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen's growth process, saying:

At least Dave Coulier's story didn't involve any malicious targeting, such as, for example, Peter Griffin running up and shoving Meg's face into his fart before running away. This isn't that, guys. It's just some innocent growth-dampening fizzle-fazz with an unsuspecting victim. Wait no, not victim. Let's say "fart-catcher." That sounds better. 

I might wonder if this was actually a one-time occurrence, or whether the actor had a penchant for farting on kids' heads. Beforehand, Jodie Sweetin told a story about being in a comedy club as a tiny kid and joked about being surprised that her growth wasn't stunted, as Coulier used to say. So did he also pull that move on Sweetin? On teen Candace Cameron? On the dog Comet? Perhaps it's best to let sleeping dogs/farting adult men lie. At least we know that's not the reason why the Olsen twins didn't appear on Fuller House.

During the '90s Con panel, Coulier also shared an excellent story about Bob Saget pulling off the best "Cut It Out" reference humanly possible, and joined the others in revealing what props they kept from the original show's set.

A lot of Full House fans made a big deal over the fact that Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen didn’t rejoin their TV sisters Candace Cameron Bure and Jodie Sweetin for the Netflix spinoff Fuller House in 2016. Heck, the characters even made several remarks about Michelle’s absence in the show. However, all of the original cast members who did reprise their family friendly characters have always made it clear that they respected the Olsen twins’ decision, and Sweetin recently gave a particularly good explanation about why it makes sense that they didn't come back.

Jodie Sweetin, who played middle sister Stephanie Tanner on the ABC sitcom Full House and Netflix’s Fuller House, spoke to Kaitlyn Bristowe on her Off the Vine podcast about the career-defining role. Sweetin said there’s always been an assumption that there was some kind of negativity behind the celebrity siblings’ absence, but the reasoning is actually extremely valid. She explained: 

It actually makes a lot of sense when you consider they probably don’t even remember much from their Full House days. For Jodie Sweetin and co-stars Candace Cameron Bure, Andrea Barber, and more, there was a lot of nostalgia tied to their Full House characters, since they literally grew up on the sitcom. 

Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen, however, were still so young, they likely didn’t have the same kind of emotional connection to the series. Also, as Sweetin pointed out, they hadn’t acted in well over 10 years and had busy careers in other fields. She continued:

Can you imagine them being so successful in fashion and then choosing to go back to what they were doing at 8 years old? That was a different lifetime to them. 

The TV Tanners may have been accepting of the Olsen twins’ decision, but Jodie Sweetin previously said they tried everything to get them to make an appearance, before they just stopped asking. Even the twins’ consistent refusals didn’t keep the spinoff characters from breaking the fourth wall several times throughout the series to make a pointed Olsen twins joke. It was often said that Michelle Tanner’s own fashion career was the reason she was never around.

Before Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen took over the world with their own empire, the twins were trading places as Michelle Tanner on Full House. Fans of the beloved sitcom will remember Michelle’s best friend, Teddy, played by a pre-Smart Guy Tahj Mowry. It’s no surprise to hear that the Olsen Twins needed a babysitter every once in a while, and who better than another set of twins, Mowry’s famous older sisters, Tia and Tamera.

Tamera Mowry-Housley revealed in her new memoir You Should Sit Down for This that while on set with Tahj Mowry for a 1992 episode of Full House, she and her sister were asked to babysit the Olsen Twins. And while it didn’t last too long, the moments were as sweet as can be (via People):

It’s definitely a shame that we didn’t get more of the Olsen and Mowry Twins together since they both were taking over in the ‘90s and still to this day. Even Mary-Kate and Ashley are still working together. But it sounds like that day on set was a great one and the fact that Mowry-Housley still holds that day near and dear to her heart speaks volumes.

Tahj Mowry recurred on Full House for just 14 episodes through its nearly 200-episode run, but it was a disappointment his sisters weren’t in more. But I guess you can only have so many twins in one TV show. But I just love that the Olsens and Mowrys have this sweet moment together off-screen that belongs to the four of them, no matter how long ago it was.

With Full House three decades behind us, getting new information or more content of what happened behind the scenes is always such a special thing. John Stamos has previously posted throwback videos of the Olsen Twins on the set of Full House when they were just itty bitty, and it’s the cutest thing ever. And who knows just how many other videos and stories people are hiding from that set? 

Meanwhile, Full House celebrated its 35th anniversary recently, and the stars posted plenty of throwback pictures to honor the TGIF series. The show ran for eight seasons and obviously launched the careers of the entire cast, including Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen. While the two aren’t as prominent in the public eye anymore, I wonder if they have any of their own stories from the set of Full House, including the day Tia and Tamera Mowry babysat them.

The Full House family lost its patriarch early in 2022 with the unexpected death of Bob Saget, who played Danny Tanner both on the original sitcom and the Fuller House spinoff on Netflix. In the wake of his passing, his former co-stars were among the many to pay tribute to him, and continue to do so even months later. Now, John Stamos – who played Saget’s on-screen brother-in-law on both shows and has called him his “biggest cheerleader” – has shared a fun throwback pic featuring not only him and Saget, but also Ashley Olsen. 

Ashley Olsen of course played youngest Tanner daughter Michelle (along with twin sister Mary-Kate Olsen) on Full House, but Stamos’ photo proves that these stars could have plenty of fun and bonding time off of the set as well as working as the extended Tanner family. What better choice for a throwback photo to share in June than one featuring John Stamos and his friends/co-stars experiencing “unfiltered joy” when he needed some cheering up back in the summer of 2004? It’s sweet that he mentioned his friends coming through for him when he needed them, and good for Stamos that he can reflect on his luck and happiness after losing Bob Saget as his longtime friend. 

It’s also nice to see Ashley Olsen featured, since neither she nor her sister returned as Michelle for Fuller House, and the spinoff got creative to explain the character’s absence. They did issue a rare public statement in honor of their TV dad after his death in January, and Stamos recently posted an adorable throwback photo of Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen after his son dropped the iconic Michelle Tanner line, so the ties are still there. 

Another star who is known for delivering the laughs as part of the Tanner family commented on Stamos’ post, revealing that she too paid a visit to her on-screen uncle at his beach house. Jodie Sweetin (a.k.a. Stephanie Tanner) wrote:

Part of the photo that I would say makes it even sweeter is the date of 2004. Full House ended back in 1995, with Fuller House not premiering until 2016. This group of people didn’t need to be together for work; they were together for fun, and it certainly looks like they were having plenty of it. This also isn’t the only time recently that Stamos went the extra mile to showcase his late friend, as he reunited with Bob Saget’s wife Kelly Rizzo when Saget was posthumously awarded the IMPACT Award from the Critics’ Choice Real TV Awards.

Sadly, Bob Saget was left out of the “In Memorium” segment at the Tony Awards on June 12, and John Stamos wasted no time in calling the Tonys out for the snub. Even if Saget doesn’t always get the official tributes that his loved ones feel that he deserves after his long and prosperous career, Stamos clearly is willing to go to bat for him.

Have mercy! Full House and Fuller House may both be all finished up for now, but John Stamos is always one to bring back the good ol' days with throwback photos from his time as Uncle Jesse. Currently the star of Disney+'s Big Shot, Stamos shared another picture with the Olsen twins, and it was all because his son dropped one of the show's most famous catchphrases.

Many characters on Full House were known to have their own catchphrase, and for little Michelle Tanner, the most oft-repeated line was “You got it, dude!” Portrayed by Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, Michelle became a child icon, and to this day, it's clear that her lovable catchphrase is still being used, although one can understand why it might pop up in this household more than most. John Stamos took to Instagram to share the post below giving a shout-out to the famous twins while sharing that his son mockingly said those four words during dinner:

How dare someone use those words so defiantly! And at meal time, where there might have been a bowl of owse cweam for dessert. 

It looks like John Stamos will never get away from the Full House universe, rightfully so, and his son is already making sure of it. However, I don’t think he minds, considering he frequently posts throwback photos and videos from his days on the popular sitcom, with a decent amount of them being of the Olsen twins.

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen will always have a special place in John Stamos’ heart, especially considering that Michelle and Uncle Jesse had some of the best scenes on Full House. In February, the ER alum opened up about them not appearing on Fuller House, noting that it wasn’t anything big keeping them away, just that they didn’t want to do it given their acting retirement and other business ventures. Meanwhile, he’s also shared throwbacks of their little sister, Elizabeth Olsen, and has said how proud he is of her as well, since he’s also known the Marvel star since she was little.

Not only does John Stamos have to be reminded of Full House through his son, but he also has a pretty permanent reminder at home. In 2020, Stamos shared a picture on Instagram of the iconic Tanner family couch from Fuller House that was sitting right in his living room. While he didn’t specify just how he got the couch, it’s likely he was able to take it home due to him being a beloved veteran cast member.

At least, John Stamos had that couch up until relatively recently. Earlier this year, his on-screen niece Candance Cameron Bure put two iconic shows together when she was moving the famous couch by using Ross’ infamous “PIVOT!” line from Friends. However, it was all for a good cause close to his wife’s heart, a podcast that showcases inspiring people around the world where listeners can donate to nonprofits.

It's definitely hilarious to know that John Stamos’ son is starting to quote Full House, but if it gets him to post more throwback photos, I’m all for it. Like her older sisters, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, Elizabeth Olsen began acting at an early age, and now she’s one of Hollywood’s most well-known stars thanks to her time as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, among other notable projects. But as the younger of the Olsen sisters, Elizabeth had the benefit of a ket piece of advice from Mary-Kate and Ashley at the start of her career that has guided her over the years: it’s ok to say no to things, and she’s applied this wisdom to one specific gig.

Elizabeth Olsen can currently be seen back in action as Scarlet Witch in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, with the actress only learning she’d be taking part in the sequel right before going back to shoot the rest of WandaVision. In any case, she’s been making the press rounds for the Doctor Strange sequel, and while speaking with The Independent, the outlet noted how Olsen has the “pleasant demeanor” of someone “clearly at ease” with the professional and personal rules she’s established for herself, including the following tidbit she got from Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen:

Although Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen retired from acting in 2012 to build a fashion empire together, they got an even earlier start with acting then their sister, having been infants when they started playing Michelle Tanner on Full House. As such, when Elizabeth Olsen started acting on a professional level in the early 2010s after pursuing higher education, her older sisters helped her realize early on that she’s not obligated to accept everything that comes her way. In fact, Olsen has already applied this mantra to one specific job in the Hollywood space: presenting at awards shows. As she explained:

So if you ever see Elizabeth Olsen onstage at awards ceremonies like the Oscars or the Emmys, it’ll be because she’s accepting one of those trophies rather than presenting them. Olsen also mentioned during her interview that she applied the advice of saying “No” differently when she was younger, specifically having used it “more as a young female who was always ready for some sort of aggressor or something.” She then acknowledged that she could have “massaged things a bit differently” or maybe “have had some nuance,” but she still thinks this piece of wisdom is “an important thing for a young woman to know, or hear, or empower themselves with.”

Along with her MCU outings, Elizabeth Olsen’s notable credits include the Oldboy remake, 2014’s Godzilla, I Saw the Light, Ingrid Goes West, Wind River and Sorry for Your Loss, the latter of which she both starred in and executive produced for Facebook Watch over its two-season run. Later this year, she’ll be seen in the HBO Max miniseries Love and Death, which follows the real life story of Wylie, Texas housewife Candy Montgomery (Olsen) murdering her friend Betty Gore (Lily Rabe) with an axe in 1980. As far as her Scarlet Witch run goes, Olsen isn’t sure what the future holds in store for her character, although she did perk up with CinemaBlend’s own Eric Eisenberg brought up how the X-Men’s forthcoming arrival in the MCU could potentially take Wanda Maximoff in new directions.

Some Hollywood couples are so wild, it’s hard to accept they existed, even if they were documented in the public record. However, actor and podcast host Dax Shepard just dropped a doozy for the books, as he opened up about his former relationship with former Full House star and current bazillionaire Ashley Olsen. Even better, his admiration for his ex gave way to a pretty awesome remark about the personalities of both Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen.

During the most recent episode of his podcast Armchair Expert, Shepard spilled the beans on his relationship with the Full House star-turned-fashion magnate. Revealing how he had actually never watched the sitcom that starred both Olsen Twins in the role of Michelle Tanner, Dax Shepart claims it was Ashley’s business acumen that really knocked him for a loop. After the topic of the Olsens' fashion line The Row came up, here’s what the host had to say when revealing this surprising fact:

It’s admittedly weird to think about Dax Shepard with anyone except his current wife and partner-in-crime/parenting Kristen Bell. That said, according to Shepard’s own admission, his romance with Ashley Olsen took place around 2007, after he was “thunderstruck by her beauty” at a party. And as they bonded over cars and he grew impressed by her fashion empire, history was made, even if it changed to the Bell side of things in late 2007.

Meanwhile, Dax Shepards’ relationship with Ashley actually allowed him to get a better appreciation for the personalities of both twins. Reflecting on how Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen struck him, sarcasm was part of the impressive combination that Shepard experienced first hand. 

Perhaps the reason hearing this story about Dax Shepard and Ashley Olsen dating is so surprising is because of the intense secrecy that both Olsen Twins have adopted in recent years. Save for their public comment after Bob Saget’s passing, we don’t hear much from either Mary-Kate or Ashley in the news. Contrasted with the Olsens’ more low-key lifestyle these days, Shepard’s affirmation of just how awesome they both are makes for good news all around.

The timing is pretty good too, as even Megan Fox had an awe-inspiring moment with the Olsens in recent months that she shared. Recalling that anecdote, that makes Ms. Fox also somewhat qualified to speak on the subject of Mary-Kate and Ashley’s awesomeness. Between that and the angle of her own wild relationship stories, perhaps it’s time that she landed a guest spot of her own on Dax Shepard’s podcast. Provided, of course, that the slate of upcoming Megan Fox movies allows such an event.

The television and comedy worlds, as well as Hollywood as a whole, lost a true legend this past weekend. Bob Saget, the actor and comedian best known for his role as Danny Tanner on the comedies Full House and Fuller House, died at the age of 65. Since news of his passing was confirmed, countless tributes have poured in from celebrities and fans. The star seemed to have had a particularly profound impact on those who were privileged to work with him over the years. Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen are among those who were fortunate enough to have worked alongside him. With this, the reclusive former child stars and current fashion moguls marked Saget’s passing with a rare public statement. 

For eight seasons, Bob Saget played the TV dad to Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen’s Michelle Tanner. Viewers watched every week, as the actors played out comedic shenanigans and tender heart-to-hearts on the hit ABC sitcom. Through their work together, the twins came to care for and respect their on-screen papa. Their statement, which was shared with Today, sweetly summed up their feelings for the late star: 

Bob Saget was found dead this past Sunday in his room at the Ritz-Carlton hotel in Orlando. The performer was in the midst of a tour, which was reportedly expected to continue through May. Saget’s body was discovered by local authorities and, as of this writing, a cause of death has yet to be determined.

The Dirty Work director kept in touch with many of his Full House co-stars after the show finished its run in 1995. And of course, the cast and crew seemed closer than ever when they all reunited for Netflix’s sequel series in 2016. From there, the gang would exchange sweet birthday wishes and other sweet messages off camera. They even united for Bob Saget’s wedding in 2018 and seemed to have a blast. The comedy legend had a lot of love for the show, even going so far as to belt on the theme song during a live performance with Carly Rae Jepsen. Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen opted not to return for the new show, but that doesn’t mean they hadn’t kept in touch with their TV father. 

As a matter of fact, the It Takes Two stars remained quite close with the comedian. Just last year, the entertainer discussed his friendship with the Olsens and revealed that he would meet up with the twins anytime he was in New York. He’d also been a big supporter of their recent professional endeavors and their decision to retire from acting. When asked for his thoughts on the two not returning for Fuller House, the How I Met Your Mother alum stated that they “should do what they want with their lives.”

Bob Saget’s compassion and generosity have been mentioned frequently, as people continue to memorialize him. It’s heartwarming to see that so many have such fond memories of him. He may have been known for his darkly humorous and dirty persona on the stage but, when he wasn’t performing, it seems he had a true heart of gold, not unlike his beloved sitcom character.

The Wanda Maximoff star was recently spotted out and about and took some time to sign a few autographs. Amid the fanfare, a photographer asked her why she was “much nicer” than her famous older siblings. The actress didn’t get upset, but her clapback (captured by alias on Twitter) summed up her feelings in a relatively succinct manner: 

Well, that’s definitely one way to respond to shade, and I’d say Elizabeth Olsen deserves credit for handling it in such a classy way. Olsen has a lot of love for her sisters, as she’s previously spoken fondly about them and their time together growing up. It actually was this bond and her respect for them that ultimately led her to opt against changing her surname. Still, Mary-Kate and Ashley don’t mind throwing a little playful shade at her, which was more than apparent when they dropped that diss song a while back. 

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen are arguably two of the most recognizable performers in the history of Hollywood. The two started their careers as babies when they shared the role of Michelle Tanner on ABC sitcom Full House for eight years. From there, they’d star in a slew of direct-to-video and theatrical films, some of which included Elizabeth as an extra. Ultimately, they managed to build one of the most successful multimedia brands of all time. 

Today, the twins are no longer in the acting game, though, as they’ve opted for the fashion world. Since making the transition, they’ve found great success with their brand, The Row, which was established in 2006. The two truly seem to enjoy working together, as Ashley Olsen previously explained that their “instincts are kind of the same” and that they like being able to have dialogues with each other about new ideas.

The pair of business moguls have certainly garnered a lot of respect over the years. For instance, even though they’ve been absent from the Full House franchise for years, they and their shared character have still received plenty of love from the cast. Megan Fox, who starred alongside them in 2001’s Holiday in the Sun, even admitted to being in awe of them. 

So let’s take a cue from their sister and colleagues and put some respect on Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen’s names. The two have dealt with a lot over the years, especially when it comes to scrutiny from the press. Still, they got past it and are now thriving. And quite frankly, you love to see it.

These days, Jurnee Smollett is known for her fan-favorite performance as Dinah Lance/Black Canary in Birds of Prey and her Emmy-nominated performance as Leti Lewis on Lovecraft Country. So it's easy to forget that she was once the cute little child actor who was a staple of ‘90s sitcoms. Her most memorable role is arguably that of Denise Frazer on Full House, which paired her up with young Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen. Being on the classic sitcom seems to have been a special experience for the actress, and she even recently shared a cute memory about filming her first scene.

Jurnee Smollett joined the cast of Full House during the ABC sitcom’s sixth season so, by that point, viewers had already fallen in love with the Tanner family. Joining such a popular show would be daunting for anyone, let alone the 4-year-old Smollett. But as she explains, she had no trouble playing off the Olsen twins and getting a feel for being in front of a live audience:

The actress’ comments to THR don’t come as much of a surprise, given her performance on Full House. Jurnee Smollett brought plenty of charm and humor to the character of Denise, and her interactions with Michelle served as funny (and downright adorable) moments. All in all, Smollett’s acting abilities and her apparent desire to channel fellow sitcom vet Janet Jackson proved to be a winning combination.

Acting alongside the Olsen twins had to be a treat for the young actress as well. Like Jurnee Smollett, the two displayed immense talent very early in their careers. This would lead to their shared character, Michelle, becoming a breakout character on Full House. Even to this day, TV fans still quote the little girl’s famous, “You got it, dude” catchphrase. So fans were greatly disappointed when the two opted not to return for Netflix’s Fuller House.

Had Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen chosen to reprise the role of Michelle Tanner, there’s a chance the producers may have sought to bring back Jurnee Smollett’s Denise. Smollett, however, probably isn’t too disappointed about not having been able to return to her sitcom roots. As mentioned, she has been quite busy with other projects, and she just recently added another to the list.

It was recently confirmed that she’ll be reprising her role as the DC Extended Universe’s Dinah Lance in a Black Canary solo film. The project will allow Jurnee Smollett to reteam with Lovecraft Country showrunner Misha Green, and both seem to be looking forward to the new collaboration.

The future is certainly bright for Jurnee Smollett, as she continues to reach new heights in Hollywood. Nevertheless, it’s nice to see that she still has fond memories of her time on Full House and appreciates how it helped mold her as an actor.

Outside of their extremely lucrative careers, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen usually make headlines for things they aren't doing rather than things they are doing, with their highly publicized absence from Netflix's Fuller House being a prime example. Because the twins' personal lives are kept so private (understandably so), it's always a jolt to the senses when one or both of them make public appearances. Or, in this case, when one of them is in a context-free viral photo while holding a machete and what appears to be a boozy drink. And if you thought the Olsens' good buddy John Stamos might have mercy on our curiosity with an answer, think again.

John Stamos appeared on Today this week to promote his upcoming true crime podcast, The Grand Scheme: Snatching Sinatra, which will take the Rat Pack enthusiast on a deep dive into the kidnapping of Frank Sinatra Jr. back in 1963, with focus on the kidnapper himself, Barry Keenan. But any investigative skills that Stamos picked up via the podcast did not help when trying to decode what was happening in the shot of Ashley Olsen, which first appeared online via her boyfriend Louis Eisner's Instagram Stories. Here's how Stamos put it in an amusingly stammering fashion:

Clearly, this is like three or four moods rolled up into one look, and the mystery of it is 100% part of the allure. Because really, what single answer could be satisfying enough? That Ashley Olsen is the titular monster in a new Blair Witch sequel or Friday the 13th reboot? Or that she's filming a new reality series where she gets hammered and goes hunting down cryptozoological creatures? Actually, I guess those might do the trick, but neither option is likely in the slightest. I'm pretty sure John Stamos would get an EP credit on that show if it existed, and he clearly didn't know about it. (Which is probably not the most convincing piece of proof here, but still.)

Or wait, maybe this is Ashley Olsen filming a music video "sequel" to the diss track that she and Mary-Kate recorded in the '90s that poked fun at younger sister Elizabeth Olsen, who went on to become Wanda "Scarlet Witch" Maximoff in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Maybe net weekend, we'll see a pic of the WandaVision star walking through the woods while holding a pint of beer and a mace.

Hell, it would also be cool if this were a behind-the-scenes shot of a new adult version of The Adventures of Mary-Kate & Ashley, or a follow-up to one of their feature films from that era. But when it comes down to it, it was probably just Ashley Olsen being fashionable and having a drink while holding a machete because she wanted to, without any other reasons being necessary. (That said, if reports crop up of a dead Sasquatch being found in the area Olsen was walking through, we'll know what happened.)

In fact, her first credited role is in Holiday in the Sun, the direct-to-video movie starring Mary-Kate and Ashely Olsen. While promoting her new horror movie Till Death on Access, Megan Fox discussed her time working on Holiday in the Sun, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary. When asked what she remembered about working on that movie, Fox responded:

Megan Fox appeared in Holiday in the Sun as Brianna Wallace, a spoiled heiress who competed with Ashely Olsen’s Alex for the affections of Ben Easter’s Jordan, who worked at the resort where all three girls are saying. So while Fox’s character obviously didn’t get along with Alex and Mary-Kate’s Madison, Fox herself walked away wishing that she could have delved into the sisters’ wardrobe on the production; if only the height difference hadn’t prevented that. As for the Holiday in the Sun production as a whole, it sounds like Fox had a pleasant enough time working on that, although those pesky hurricanes certainly didn’t make things easier.

Holiday in the Sun was among the many direct-to-video comedy movies that Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen worked on during their post-Full House years, but it was also among the final projects they performed in. The sisters retired from acting in 2004, with New York Minute being their final movie, as well as appearing on The Simpsons and Saturday Night Live that same year. As Megan Fox noted, the Olsens were into fashion at a young age, and these days they contribute to the fashion industry through their label The Row. Their sister Elizabeth Olsen, on the other hand, is killing it in the acting world, most recently through WandaVision.

While TV viewers probably remember Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen best as Full House’s Michelle Tanner, the twin sisters built a billion-dollar media empire completely outside the TGIF sitcom, and eventually shifted gears from acting to fashion. Despite the shift, the success remained consistent, and the Olsen twins have managed to spend their entire careers working side by side. And in a relatively rare moment of public self-reflection, Ashley Olsen broke down the elements of their relationship that have allowed their longtime collaboration to continue without fail.

Since retiring from acting, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen have remained largely out of the limelight while building up an internationally renowned fashion empire. Having remained professionally connected since they were in diapers, you’d think the twin sisters might be tired of working together now that their in their mid-30s. Gigi Hadid revealed that Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen work alongside their staff in the office every day. And all that is to say nothing about their talents with styles, trends and more.

Fashion may be their passion now, but the Olsen twins will always be part of the Full House family. Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen stay connected with their former co-stars, according to Bob Saget. Despite not being present in Fuller House during any of its five seasons, the sisters still had a presence on the Netflix series through jokes and dialogue, and were even involved in the fashion industry for Michelle's backstory. In an age of remakes, revivals, and spinoffs, Fuller House attempted to navigate between the nostalgia for the original Full House and the expectations of a new generation. It ain’t an easy thing to fully accomplish, that’s for sure. The spinoff had a decent run of five seasons, with the final season released last June on Netflix. The actors who played D.J. Tanner, Stephanie, Uncle Joey and most of the rest of the gang came back, but Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, the stars behind Michelle Tanner, were notably absent. Now, John Stamos has shared how he really felt about the Olsen twins not coming back for Fuller House, specifically the final season.

His thoughts on the matter aren’t too outrageous and definitely not surprising. The veteran actor has a very close bond with the Olsen family, who he watched over as their fictional uncle for eight years. To mark the release of Marvel's WandaVision, he even recently posted a throwback picture of their sister Elizabeth Olsen on the set of Full House. When asked on Watch What Happens Live if he was surprised the Olsen twins didn’t reprise their joint role as Michelle Tanner in Fuller House, Stamos said:

I guess with that kind of logic, we can’t blame the Olsen twins, either, for not returning for Fuller House. The twins don’t exactly need the money, publicity, or acclaim. Both own joint ownership of the Dualstar company, which has reportedly propelled their net worth to roughly half a billion dollars over the years. They have also parlayed their preteen popularity into formidable figures in high fashion.

Yet for longtime fans of Full House, the show that jumpstarted the Olsen twins’ fame, it was kind of a letdown that the two declined to reprise Michelle because of their long hiatus from acting and the current focus on their fashion careers. Fuller House managed to play off their absence with a joke but, given the success the sisters have found, it was probably for that the best the Olsen twins chose to stay in their current lane.

According to John Stamos though, the filming for the Fuller House series finale was still plenty emotional. Perhaps because things were ending for good this time or perhaps because he was juggling filming for D.J.’s wedding and his new Disney+ series Big Shot simultaneously. The past decade has seen somewhat of a Stamos resurgence, if you will, with his surprising turns in younger/popular shows like Glee, Scream Queens, and Netflix’s stalker-thriller series You.

If we can’t get the grown-up Olsen twins to regurgitate “Aw, nuts!” for nostalgia purposes, then at least we can still appreciate the je ne sais quoi of the John Stamos eye twinkle.

Fed up with his antics, they put up a “Brother For Sale 50c” sign in their front yard, telling everyone passing by what they’d be getting. Seeing that people weren’t giving in, they lower the price to a quarter, even using a blow up panda bear and a plane to get their message across. The catchy tune is one that will never get old, same with “B-U-T-T Out.”

While the sudden realization of Elizabeth Olsen being related to Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen is shocking a lot of people, being able to go back and relive one of the twins’ best songs when they were younger might be one of the best things to happen this year. The Unsolved Mysteries reboot has enraptured Netflix subscribers as the series has led to tons of new tips. What would it take to crack these all-too elusive cases? Some fans believe that the Olsen Twins should have gotten called in to assist (there is still time), and Netflix seems to agree. First, some backstory.

Long before the Olsen Twins were unwilling to reprise their role as Michelle Tanner on Fuller House, the duo starred in The Adventures of Mary-Kate & Ashley. The series of videos saw the Olsens play versions of themselves who solved their fair share of capers, including one on a cruise ship. They solved “any crime by dinnertime,” and Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen’s crime-solving motto was a huge draw for their business.

With those kinds of results, you can understand why an Unsolved Mysteries fan thought to bring in the Olsen Twins to solve the show’s question-raising cases. As you would expect, Netflix sees their point, and you can see the tweet below that proves it:

Imagine all of the mysterious cases that the Olsen Twins could have solved by now instead of working on their fashion empire? Unsolved Mysteries needs them. Of course, the Olsen Twins were comfortable with letting the mystery of Michelle Tanner continuing to be absent from significant family events prevail, so do not get your hopes up too far.

For those who grew up when the Olsen Twins were two of the world’s biggest superstars, this Unsolved Mysteries in-joke makes all the sense in the world. During The Adventures of Mary-Kate & Ashley, the Olsen Twins solved eleven cases in their direct-to-video series (which I watched, along with reading books based on the series).

This is a true story. When I was a kid, I loved The Adventures of Mary-Kate & Ashley. As an adult, I am an Unsolved Mysteries enthusiast. I think you can pick up on a common theme. Yours truly loves a ready-to-solve mystery, as long as it's not of the paranormal variety.

There is still a lot to talk about where the recently released cases are involved, with fan theories and viewers’ suspicions filling the void left by new episodes.

Unsolved Mysteries is currently streaming on Netflix alongside this year’s premieres. As for The Adventures of Mary-Kate & Ashley, the video series is not available to stream on Netflix at the moment. While you wait for more Unsolved Mysteries, look forward to this fall’s premieres.

Fuller House came to an end on Netflix recently, closing the door on this extended family's stories for the second time. It was an emotional journey for all involved, but two former Full House stars that never got involved were twins Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen. Fuller House made one final jokey reference about Michelle Tanner's continued absence from the sequel spinoff, and Candace Cameron Bure had some thoughts.

It sounds like Candace Cameron Bure took absolutely no issue with Fuller House’s Olsen twins joke in the final season. When asked whether she was still holding out for the former actresses to appear, Bure told US Weekly:

For context, the joke in question occurred during Fuller House’s second-to-last episode (ever), and the scene features Kimmy, Stephanie, and DJ browsing through the Tanners’ attic while reminiscing along the way. When Kimmy came across Michelle’s old bike, she asked how long they were going to keep it, saying:

While it was the last time Fuller House broke the fourth wall with an Olsen twins joke, it definitely wasn't the first one. Anyone familiar with what has been going on with Fuller House over its five-season run knows that the Olsen twins' absence has been a recurring headline. When it came time for Season 5, Candace Cameron Bure previously revealed the spinoff had not even bothered to ask the duo back, considering all the previous negative responses.

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen have said their relationship is like a marriage, and when it came to appearing on Fuller House, the two were a united front. Unless both would have been fully on board together, there would never be any cameo by the twins, who rose to fame and prominence due to the Netflix show’s TGIF predecessor, Full House.

When Fuller House started out, the show explained Michelle’s not being around in San Francisco for critical Tanner family gatherings. It was said that Michelle was off in New York City living her life as a fashion mogul, just like the Olsen twins are in real life.

In that way, Michelle maintained a presence on Fuller House despite her never physically appearing on the show. Of course, one excuse after another had to be made throughout the series’ five seasons to explain her uncharacteristic absence from the close-knit family, but each season had at least one tongue-in-cheek moment that reflected on the character's absence.

Fuller House ended up never recasting the role of Michelle, and just went with her living life off-screen. (Probably a smart way to avoid a backlash.) The Olsen twins' absence from Fuller House's final episodes is a big difference between how the spinoff and flagship shows ended. Candace Cameron Bure shared other ways they different when recently comparing how both shows’ endings impacted her.

The Olsen twins' Michelle Tanner was not the only missing family member that Fuller House's final episodes had to explain away. Aunt Becky was also absent from the final season, what with Lori Loughlin's ongoing legal fiasco in the aftermath of the college admissions scandal. Ever since its spinoff got the green light, fans had been hopeful they would somehow reprise the part. There was ample reason to be skeptical. However, you can now officially cancel all hope of a last-minute cameo happening on Fuller House.

Candace Cameron Bure confirmed that Fuller House did not approach the Olsen Twins to put in an appearance for Season 5. The actress who plays Michelle’s eldest sister D.J. shared the somewhat surprising update as fans are still taking in the ending of Season 5. Regarding Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, Bure told TVLine:

When it comes to Fuller House reaching out, it sounds like it was asked and answered a long time ago. For five seasons, the spinoff has given periodic updates on the missing Tanner daughter. In Season 5, Danny remarked that it was “nice to have three daughters again” following D.J., Stephanie and Kimmy’s engagements.

If you were too focused on the thought of the trio’s wedding plans, you might be unaware that others took Danny’s joke another way. Screen Rant has theorized that Michelle may actually be dead. Yes, dead! Now that she is not set to be played by the Olsen Twins at any point in Season 5, the theory could gain more steam!

In a close family like the Tanner’s, it is a bit shocking in a story sense that Michelle could be out of the picture for this long. That is my opinion, though. Fuller House has clearly had no choice except to roll with it. Of course, they could have recast the role of Michelle, but a decision like that could have been controversial.

I think it might be sort of necessary, though, considering those upcoming weddings. Candace Cameron Bure said that Fuller House did not reach out to the Olsen Twins. But, is there a chance the Netflix series secretly cast another actress to play Michelle? The cast’s farewell posts when Fuller House wrapped did not hint at anything.

It seems like Michelle Tanner may have been seen for the last time back on Full House. Take from that the emotions that you will! Fuller House Season 5 is now streaming on Netflix as one of this winter’s premieres. The series’ final episodes will be available to stream on Netflix in 2020.

Notably absent from Fuller House have been Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen. The famous twins have not made any Michelle Tanner appearances on the sitcom to date, not even a cameo. And that's apparently not set to change anytime soon, even with the fifth and final season on the horizon.

Full House turned Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen into household names, but the sisters have been hesitant to make any appearances on the Netflix series, much to the surprise and disappointment of many viewers. We can't rule out the possibility of a brief appearance from the celebrity twins in the series finale – that's purely hypothetical and not based on any rumors or speculation – but it's looking more likely that the former child actresses will continue to keep their distance from Fuller House. The Fuller-Tanner house might be a bit too crowded for their tastes already.

The Producers Claim That The Olsens Aren't Comfortable With Appearing On The Show

As mentioned earlier, the show's executive producers have spoken up regarding Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen's stark absence on Fuller House. Here, we're specifically talking about producer Bob Boyett. As it turns out, the Netflix series' execs definitely wanted the twins to return in some capacity or another. It's a no-brainer, after all. But it's an uphill battle, notably since the Olsen twins have stopped acting over the years — particularly after Hollywood dominated their adolescence.

For Ashley Olsen in particular, it has been nearly 15 years since she starred in New York Minute, which was her last acting project outside of a few brief cameos in select movies, and an appearance in a 30 Seconds to Mars music video. That's certainly a pointed answer. Suffice to say, Candance Cameron Bure doesn't want any room for speculation. She believes there will never be a day where the Olsen twins appear on the set of Fuller House. One may wonder if this is a diversion, of course, but it sounds pretty definitive.

Furthermore, Bob Saget has opened up about the lack of Olsen twins on Fuller House, but he hosts no bitterness or hostility about their decision. Rather, the comedian is accepting of their decision, believing that the celebrities should only do the show if they want to do it or can find the time to make it happen. While he wasn't sure if it would ever happen, he expressed his understanding and acceptance of their decision to stay away from Fuller House.

These aren't the only quotes from the cast of Fuller House on the matter, but they each seem to reflect similar sentiments about their former co-stars. It's clear that, while seemingly everyone involved would be interested in reconnecting with the Olsen twins through this show, they are all accepting — or, at least, understanding — of the decision by the former child stars to say no. And it's the Olsens' decision at the end of the day, after all.

We haven't seen what Season 5 of Fuller House will hold, but that'll change when the first half of the 18-episode season premieres on Friday, December 6th, followed by the second half of the season later in 2020. This past weekend saw the big Netflix premiere of Fuller House Season 3, which means we got another chance to hang out with most of the original Tanner family, though not all of it. As it goes, the notable absence was Michelle Tanner, since neither Ashley nor Mary-Kate Olsen have been game to reprise their shared role for the popular spinoff. Perhaps as a way to remind Fuller House fans of how adorable the Olsen twins were during those early Full House seasons, franchise star John Stamos shared the aww-worthy video below.

You gotta love everything about this, from the video itself to the use of "#NetflixAndHug" in the message. Michelle remains one of the cutest toddlers in TV history, and even though John Stamos may have initially wanted to get the Olsen twins booted from the show for being difficult to work with, he clearly changed his tune about his feelings for them as the years went by.

After all, who can deny the power of being called by one's character name and then getting a tongue stuck out in said person's direction? Not John Stamos, and not me, either. (Although I don't really have a character name to get addressed by.) Incidentally, if you're having trouble telling twins apart, just get each of them to call you a different name.

As one of the driving forces behind Fuller House coming into existence, John Stamos was actually one of the people who tried hardest to get Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen back into this world, and not just for the first season. And while he might still be doing something to make that happen for the future, show creator Jeff Franklin has said he won't be making those attempts anymore, since they should clearly know that they'd be welcome on Fuller House if they chose to appear. At this point, it's hard to know what would actually change their minds about returning to a TV project.

The behind-the-scenes video was recorded back in August of 1989, which would presumably mean it was taken during the weeks prior to Season 3 premiering on ABC as part of the inaugural TGIF lineup on Friday nights. Pretty timely, considering it was unearthed for Fuller House's third season, which debuted exactly 30 years after Full House's series premiere. Something tells me a video of Bob Saget and Dave Coulier from that time would be a lot filthier.

The shoes looked like they could have come straight from the Emerald City, but they worked perfectly with the rest of Mary-Kate Olsen's outfit. She completed the look by wearing her hair up and popping a floral hairpiece on for good measure.
