While I usually hate feeling as if time is going by too quickly, I can take comfort in knowing it’s all leading to the upcoming DC movie The Batman: Part II, so no time has technically been wasted. (I live in denial a bunch.) Production on the 2027 theatrical release kicked off in June, but many cast and character questions remain unanswered. Is Sebastian Stan really playing Harvey Dent and Two-Face? Is Scarlett Johansson a key piece of the Long Halloween adaptation game? Will we see The Joker?

Unsurprisingly, director Matt Reeves kept mum about new and established roles when confirming the film’s actors, and it was a noteworthy exclusion when Barry Keoghan’s name wasn’t listed in the lineup. Though not a “star” of the first film, the Irish actor made a quick and lasting impact from his minimal time on-screen as “Unseen Arkham Prisoner,” and talks about his return were among the first rumors sparked by the impending sequel. So what’s the deal?

A Warner Bros. Event May Have Spilled The Joker Beans

WB execs were on hand in France around July 4 weekend for Studio Show 2026 to promote the studio's slate of upcoming movies, from Tom Cruise's Digger to Dune: Part 3 to animated projects like Hello Kitty and Margie Claus. Obviously, the topic of DC-sourced adaptations came up, such as Man of Tomorrow and Dynamic Duo, and Clayface. But this detail reported by BoxOfficePro is definitely worth bringing up, since Keoghan is one of the key names mentioned in the French report. Here's a translated iteration:

No mention of James Gordon actor Jeffrey Wright or Penguin portrayer Colin Farrell, but Keoghan is just right there in front, ahead of Alfred's actor Andy Serkis. I of course get throwing ScarJo and Stan in there for extra hype, and maybe it's a case where Keoghan has a huge following in France, and so the outlet wanted to play into that, without this being directly related to billing order.

The Saltburn actor himself has been cagey when addressing a potential return as The Joker, which has only helped to make the return seem more likely. But given just the elements that we know about thus far, it's not entirely clear how The Joker would factor into what will assumedly be Two-Face's origin tale. (It's not like Reeves is going to ape Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight, amirite?) So I can't imagine it'll be a very prominent part, and will possibly just lay additional groundwork for a grander takeover in a third Batman movie. Or not.

Whatever fans might hope to see, note that the actor is as busy as busy can be, in large part because he's portraying musical icon Ringo Starr for Sam Mendes' The Beatles – A Four-Film Cinematic Event, which reportedly started filming in March. It'll likely take well over a year for the movie quartet to be filmed, though it's obviously possible that Keoghan worked out scheduling details with Reeves and Mendes that would allow him to film Joker scenes without imminent Ringo sequences to appear in.

For now, the actor’s fans can see him in action in two 2026 movie releases to date: Crime 101 opposite Chris Hemsworth (currently streaming via Amazon Prime subscription) and Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man (currently streaming via Netflix subscription).

As The Batman: Part II inches closer to the beginning of principal photography, a number of questions remain regarding the Matt Reeves-helmed movie. One particular detail that’s been heavily discussed by fans is whether Barry Keoghan will reprise his role as the Joker. Unsurprisingly, Keoghan himself has played coy whenever he’s been asked about the prospect of reprising the Clown Prince of Crime. The Irish actor did the same thing during a recent interview, yet I’m still convinced he’ll be returning for the sequel.

Keoghan’s Mr. J only appears briefly at the end of 2022’s The Batman, as his silhouette can be seen while he forms an alliance with the unsuspecting Riddler in Arkham Asylum. However, following the release of the film, Warner Bros. officially released a deleted scene featuring Joker. Keoghan recently took part in Wired’s Autocomplete Interview (which was shared to YouTube), and one of the questions posed was in regard to why his Joker scene was cut. Keoghan didn’t provide an exact reason, but he did share these thoughts:

The scene in question is very entertaining, as it shows the incarcerated clown being interrogated by the Dark Knight (played by Robert Pattinson), who seeks his thoughts on the Riddler’s crimes. Overall, the deleted moment quickly and effectively illustrates the dynamic between the two foes, and it’s a major reason why I want to see Keoghan play the Gotham City rogue again. Keoghan also addressed the prospect of playing the role again:

Considering the Banshees of Inisherin star’s uneasiness and quickness to move away from the topic, I’m more than tempted to believe he’s poised to make a comeback as Joker. It’s definitely not uncommon for actors affiliated with certain projects to deny involvement until something is made official. For example, I can still remember when Paul Rudd tried to brush off the report that he’d been cast as Ant-Man. So, while Keoghan may not have provided any kind of confirmation, his deflection suggests there’s something big he can’t talk about.

Keoghan may not be keen on divulging any details on what lies ahead for his Joker, but he is fully aware of how massive the gig is. He previously referred to the role as being “a big one” and emphasized the “iconic” nature of the character. Considering that Jack Nicholson, Heath Ledger and Joaquin Phoenix are among the actors who’ve played versions of the DC Comics villain over the years, it’s clear that Keoghan is following in the footsteps of some titans. Considering Keoghan’s solid debut as the character, I’d love to see him get a chance to further develop this iteration alongside Matt Reeves.

Of course, the status of the Joker is just one query swirling around this Batman sequel, as fans still don’t even know what the actual plot will be. At the very least, it’s been reported that some newcomers are joining the fold, including blockbuster franchise queen Scarlett Johansson, and she’ll be joined by Sebastian Stan, a fellow MCU alum. Here’s hoping Keoghan is indeed part of the ensemble Reeves is putting together for this film.

The Batman: Part II is set to open in theaters on October 1, 2027. While fans wait for the film, they can stream its predecessor as well as the spinoff series, The Penguin, using an HBO Max subscription.

When I saw Crime 101, Chris Hemsworth’s first release on the 2026 movie schedule (Doomsday is coming), I was disappointed. I love a great heist movie, and I was excited for this, thinking it’d be a really fun popcorn chomper of an action flick. I wrote about how I thought it was a little too long, owing mostly to a somewhat pointless love story, and I thought the movie was full of silly tropes and lazy plot devices (plus a one-car car chase that was kind of ridiculous).

Then I started seeing a bunch of reviews from critics and fans alike who really liked the movie. The Rotten Tomatoes score kind of blew my mind. It’s currently sitting at 89% on the Tomatometer and 85% on the Popcornmeter. What in the world did I miss here? What were other people seeing that I wasn’t? I had to watch it again, so I fired up my Prime Account, where it is currently streaming, and gave it another shot.

My Opinion Hasn’t Changed

As anyone can relate, sometimes when you see a movie for the first time, you’re in the wrong mood for the movie, or you’ve got other things on your mind. Sometimes a first impression is a bad one. My most notable experience with that was seeing The Big Lebowski in theaters when it was released in 1998. I hated it. It’s now perhaps my favorite movie of all time. I didn’t expect the same thing to happen with Crime 101, but given how much some people really liked it, I felt I owed it a second chance.

So after watching this weekend, I came away from it with the exact same feelings as I had the first time. It’s a trope salad that looks slick, but just under the surface, it feels hollow. The love story between Hemsworth’s character, Mike/James, and Maya (Monica Barbaro) is still pointless. The dialogue is still stilted and shallow. The cat-and-mouse game between Mike and Sharon (Halle Berry) still didn’t get me excited, and Barry Keoghan’s character Ormon still feels unnecessarily psychotic.

All The Pieces Are There For A Really Fun Movie, But…

On paper, this movie should work, and I think it should work for me. I think it’s the perfect kind of role for Hemsworth, and, frankly, the whole cast is in roles that work really well for them. Mark Ruffalo as a down-and-out-but-brilliant detective is right up his alley. Nick Nolte as the grizzled veteran thief is also a fantastic role for him. But none of it really works for me.

As I said, it’s slick, some of the stunt work is wonderful, and I like the general story, but it never gelled. There is just something off about it. It might just be me (in fact, it clearly is, given the Rotten Tomatoes score), but it’s not going to end up on my list of best heist movies, and it really has been yearning for the next big heist movie on my radar, Michael B. Jordan’s remake of The Thomas Crown Affair. I’m hoping for big things from the Oscar-winner!

When Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man premiered on Netflix’s 2026 schedule, it marked the end of Tommy Shelby’s story. In a tragic, yet fulfilling way, we got to see the iconic gangster’s final stand, and I asked Cillian Murphy about watching his character’s last moments. In response, he told me what it felt like to see Tommy die “about 500 times.”

At the end of The Immortal Man, Tommy is fatally injured by Beckett (Tim Roth) and ultimately killed by his son Duke (Barry Keoghan) in an act of mercy. Then, the film ends with Tommy’s funeral as a carriage is burned with him in it. It’s heartbreaking and beautiful. However, when I asked the Oscar-winner what it was like for him to watch it, he told me why it actually wasn’t all that emotional for him:

I can totally see what he’s saying. While I’d think it’d be hard to watch a character you played for six seasons and a movie die, when you watch it enough times, the edge probably wears off. As the Oppenheimer actor said, since he’s a producer on the film, he was watching it in a “clinical” way and working to make it the best possible sequence (which paid off if you’ve seen The Immortal Man’s reviews). So, that means the emotion of it all came out of it for him personally.

However, he did note how aware he is of how gut-wrenching and emotional Tommy’s death is. Recalling how it felt to watch Barry Keoghan as Duke, as well as their other co-stars, act during that burial scene, Murphy told me:

The 28 Days Later star went on to say that the moment came together beautifully between what the actors were doing, the visuals surrounding them, and “that Lankum song.” “All the elements were there,” he told me. However, when he looks at it, it does not hit him in a super emotional way. As an actor and producer, he was simply viewing it from a “storytelling” perspective, as he explained:

I do know what he means. However, I can’t even begin to fathom what it’d feel like to watch a character I’d played for so long die on screen. But if I were a producer, had the bigger picture in mind and could remove myself a bit from the character, I think I’d be able to separate myself from the emotion of it all.

Now, with all that said, I’m happy watching this scene 500 times paid off. While we know a brand new sequel series is coming, The Immortal Man is a fantastic film that concluded Tommy’s story in a way that provided a lot of closure for this era of Peaky Blinders. So, no matter what emotions Cillian Murphy felt while watching it, I hope he’s proud of the story he’s told as this legendary character.

The premiere of Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man on Netflix’s 2026 schedule marked the end of an era for Cillian Murphy’s iconic character, Tommy Shelby. After six seasons of fighting, his story came to a close at the hands of his son, Duke (Barry Keoghan), and Tim Roth’s villain Beckett. So, I asked Roth about filming this final moment, and he told me why it left him thinking, “People are gonna fucking hate me.”

At the end of The Immortal Man, Tommy Shelby dies. In a lot of ways, this frees him, as his son Duke delivers the final shot that ultimately kills him. However, it's Beckett who fires the shots that lead to this tragic fate. When I asked Roth about his thoughts regarding this moment in the new streaming movie, he said:

To be the guy who takes down Tommy Shelby will certainly lead to strong feelings from fans. Plus, the way it happens is quite visceral, as Beckett drives a car full-speed ahead at Tommy while shooting his gun. Ultimately, he does hit the former leader of the Peaky Blinders, but Murphy’s character gets the last shot, as he ultimately kills Beckett with a bullet to the head.

That’s what leads to Duke tackling Tommy out of the way. However, the damage is done, and Tommy asks his son to kill him, marking the end of his story.

Thinking about all this and the history and baggage that comes with Peaky Blinders, Roth was aware of the pressure surrounding this situation. To that point, he said:

I mean, to be the guy (partially) responsible for the death of Tommy Shelby would leave me feeling overwhelmed and maybe laughing too.

However, it’s also a great way for the character to go out. As I noted in my review of The Immortal Man, the closure this movie gives to Tommy’s story is fantastic. That’s specifically because its done in a way that highlights his relationship with his son and the legacy of the Peaky Blinders. That father-son relationship is also what Pulp Fiction actor found fascinating about all this, as he told me:

Throughout the project that was released on the 2026 movie schedule, Beckett uses Duke’s relationship with Tommy to his own advantage. He manipulates Duke’s estranged relationship with his dad, and that gets him what he wants (until it doesn’t). Overall, it’s a fascinating dynamic all around, and I totally agree with Roth, as he told me that he found all this “intriguing.”

Overall, I see why Beckett's shooting Tommy left Roth feeling like fans would hate him. I mean, he is the character who helped put an end to the immortal man. However, I also think this was a very poetic way for Tommy to go out.

As Roth’s character manipulated and used Duke, Tommy returned to Birmingham for one final battle. And I think it was all one epic way for this Peaky Blinder's story to conclude.

Peaky Blinders has remained one of the best crime series you can find on Netflix, even years after the series ended in 2022 after six seasons, and now, Cillian Murphy’s Tommy Shelby is back. Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man hits the Netflix schedule on March 20, following a limited run in theaters, and critics are here to share their views on the feature-length continuation (and possible conclusion) to the crime drama.

The Peaky Blinders movie picks up a few years after the events of the series finale and finds Tommy living in solitude, haunted by grief. This is sure to change, thanks to the actions of his son, Duke (Barry Keoghan). In CinemaBlend’s review of Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man, Riley Utley says if this is, indeed, the last time we see the Peaky Blinders, this is a meaningful and well-earned farewell. She rates it 4.5 out of 5 stars, writing:

Lacy Baugher of RogerEbert gives the 2026 movie release 3 stars out of 4, saying that while some aspects of the movie are flawed, there’s something undeniably thrilling about seeing Tommy Shelby suit up again. Thirteen years after Cillian Murphy first embodied the character, he’s still finding new depth and emotional layers there. Baugher continues:

Dan Jolin of Empire rates it 3 out of 5 stars, saying The Immortal Man is Peaky Blinders as usual, which could be either a relief or disappointment to fans of the series. In Jolin’s words:

After six seasons, Peaky Blinders has returned in the form of The Immortal Man to give Cillian Murphy's Tommy Shelby one hell of a conclusion. As a fan of the original series, I was a bit apprehensive about it returning as a movie years after Tommy rode away on that white horse. However, writer Steven Knight, director Tom Harper and stars Murphy and Barry Keoghan give us a movie that serves as a methodical yet high-octane and worthy conclusion to this tale.

The story takes place in 1940. Tommy Shelby has exiled himself and is living like a recluse in his home. Meanwhile, his estranged son Duke (Barry Keoghan) has taken over the Peaky Blinders and is causing chaos in Birmingham. Then, in the midst of World War II, the former leader of the fierce gang is drawn back to his hometown.

So, as Tommy deals with his son, he’s also forced to reckon with the ghosts of his past. It’s all around a destructive yet beautiful tale about what could very well be Tommy Shelby’s final stand. And if it is indeed the last time we see the Peaky Blinders, it serves as a meaningful and well-earned farewell thanks to showstopping performances from Murphy and Keoghan that shine in this rich world that was developed on television.

For this chapter of Peaky Blinders, Cillian Murphy returns as an older version of his iconic lead, while Barry Keoghan joins the cast as Duke. Initially, I was concerned about the lack of original cast members in this film, but the sheer power of Murphy and Keoghan as a duo put that issue to bed very fast. These two have magnetic energy, they juxtapose one another brilliantly, and they play out this story of a father returning to see his kid in a very powerful way.

While Murphy brings the cool and scarily calm energy he maintained throughout the entire show, Keoghan bursts onto the screen like a firecracker. It works perfectly, too, because Duke is simultaneously Tommy’s son and his antithesis.

It’s those two notions that mix together brilliantly in this film. Throughout, Tommy and Duke face off, and it’s never quite clear where allegiances lie, especially when it comes to Keoghan’s character. Then, when the two finally meet, it’s in an explosive way that sets the tone for a rip-roaring and action-packed conclusion.

When I think about what makes Murphy a great actor, it's his stoic and methodical nature and ability to let his emotions out at just the right moment. Meanwhile, Keoghan’s unpredictability and passion radiate off a lot of his work. These guys bring both those energies to The Immortal Man, and the ways in which they clash and work together are what make it such a memorable movie.

The Immortal Man is a brilliant introduction to a new era, and a breathtaking conclusion to another.

By and large, Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man is a send-off. It’s a farewell to a generation of Shelbys, and it’s a beautiful one at that. Through moments of solitary introspection and forced, uncomfortable confrontation, Tommy has to reckon with his past and his loss in a visceral way. And in doing that, some semblance of closure is found.

Meanwhile, we’re also introduced to the new generation of Peaky Blinders. While Duke was in the show, Keoghan took over the part for the movie, and he fleshes him out fully. This man is haunted by his past and is trying to find his voice as the new leader of this infamous gang.

It’s a fresh take on the impact the Peaky Blinders have on Birmingham, and through the absolutely stellar action set pieces full of explosives and shootouts, we’re able to get a well-constructed full-circle ending with two key successes: it harkens back to Tommy’s days in World War I while also introducing to a new form of life and violence as his son steps into his power.

Overall, Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man is an intergenerational story that should thrill fans of the series. However, it also stands proudly on its own thanks to the new people involved, making for an epic conclusion that’s worthy of the beloved show that came before it.

When I think about Peaky Blinders, I think about their suits that are tailored to perfection, that iconic haircut, and the gang’s cutthroat mentality. These guys have an unmistakable signature style, and their saying “By order of the Peaky Blinders” has become part of it. So, with the Peaky Blinders movie, The Immortal Man, set to release on Netflix’s 2026 schedule soon, I had to ask the newest addition to the cast, Barry Keoghan, what it was like to suit up and say one of the series’ most iconic lines. His response surprised me, as he recalled why he felt he hadn’t earned it.

In The Immortal Man’s trailer, it’s revealed that Tommy’s “gypsy son,” Duke, is “running the Peaky Blinders.” Then, in a clip from the movie, which will be available with a Netflix subscription on March 20, we got to see Duke leading the gang on a job. Keoghan plays this character, and as you can see in the clip below, he was one of two men to say that iconic Peaky Blinders line. Take a look:

“By order of the Peaky Blinders” is a line that has permeated pop culture, and I’ve always wondered what it’s like to say it. It’s been said by Cillian Murphy and the other actors who have played members of this gang. So, I was curious what it was like for Keoghan to be the new actor in the cast and tasked with saying such a legendary line of dialogue. He said it was “mad,” explaining:

It’s interesting to hear Keoghan say that he “hadn’t earned” the line as Duke. I mean, based on where the series ends, it’s clear that Tommy’s son is not super connected to the Shelby family. However, a lot of time has passed between then and when the movie picks up, and in the clip, the line is said with a quiet power that is very on brand for Peaky Blinders. So, I was surprised to hear the actor say he felt like he hadn’t earned it as Duke.

However, I also love the 2023 Oscar nominee’s take on it. I’m so here for how he said the line to the guy who was questioning the gang’s authority. I also loved how Keoghan then threw the line back to his co-star, Jay Lycurgo, who repeated it. It added an emphasis to the moment that reaffirmed the hold the gang has on Birmingham.

Now, I’ll be curious to see how Duke and the Peaky Blinders operate in the film as a whole. I’m even more interested in the relationship between Duke and Tommy; honestly, I can’t wait to see the Saltburn star go toe-to-toe with the 2024 Oscar winner. We know that Cillian Murphy’s character is returning to Birmingham and his son is leading the gang there, which means we’ll get to watch the old leader of the Peaky Blinders interact with the new one.

So, yes, it makes sense that being the new cast member to say “By order of the Peaky Blinders” was a “mad” experience. Now, we’ll get to see if Duke can live up to it.

With that being said, Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man will premiere on the 2026 movie schedule on March 20 over on Netflix, which is also where you can stream the original series in full.

It has been five years since David Lowery released The Green Knight, his otherworldly and hauntingly beautiful take on a classic Arthurian tale. Starring Dev Patel as a headstrong yet unproven knight as he journeys to test his courage, this great fantasy epic quickly became one of the best films of 2021. With stunning visuals, a story that methodically builds tension, and some of the best production design in years, this unnerving epic is great from start to finish. Yet, there’s one scene that still gives me chills after all this time.

No, it’s not the various encounters with the Green Knight that bookend the film. Nor is it the strange and off-putting sequence with the Lord and Lady that tend to the young knight. Instead, it’s a brief yet unforgettable meeting with a young scavenger picking through the corpses of fallen soldiers.

Sir Gawain’s Encounter With The Young Scavenger Is Straight-Up Bone-Chilling

Not long after Sir Gawain’s journey gets underway, he stumbles upon the fallout of a major battle between two unknown parties. Riding amongst the dead and their belongings on his quest to find and confront the Green Knight, he has a chance encounter with one of the most unforgettable characters in the entire movie: Barry Keoghan’s scavenger.

From poking around the dead bodies to talking about nature swallowing up the dead to bouncing between glee and sorrow from the sight, the young stranger is unstable, and his nature is straight-up unsettling. You don’t know anything about him, but you know he can’t be trusted. So, when he gives Gawain directions for a forest chapel, it doesn’t take long to come to the realization that this is someone who can’t be believed.

As pointed out in CinemaBlend’s Green Knight review, the battlefield-roaming stranger has sinister intentions, and his offer of help is nothing more than him setting a trap for what is probably his latest victim. Gawain foolishly walks into the trap, leading to a more violent and less ambiguous meeting with the scavenger and his gang, who strip him of everything and leave him for dead.

We Don’t Know Anything About The Scavenger, And That Makes This So Much More Unsettling

What has always drawn me to this scene, and this character in particular, is that we know nothing about him and learn nothing about him before the Green Knight ending. Though Gawain later retrieves the axe the young scavenger stole from him, the character is never seen or heard of again. This brings me to some big questions I’ve long had about the boy and his appearance.

With the movie having multiple scenes that blend reality and fantasy, and Gawain being forced to overcome a series of tests to prove himself, could this whole interaction be nothing more than a hallucination? Or is this another test of the young knight’s virtues to prove himself worthy? Or is the boy a living, breathing person who’s been broken and desensitized by the cruelty and violence of the world?

I’m still trying to make sense of this encounter, but it remains such a bone-chilling and unforgettable scene all these years later. If you’ve been meaning to revisit The Green Knight, it’s currently streaming with a Netflix subscription.

I'm a huge Beatles fan. I'm also a huge fan of when filmmakers take big, crazy swings and try to do things that seem equal parts crazy and impossible. As such, when it was announced that director Sam Mendes was going to make not one, but four movies about the lives of The Beatles, I was intrigued. Now that I've seen what the cast is going to look like, I'm absolutely astounded.

A variety of Instagram images have begun to drop on various accounts that reveal that a set of four postcards has been hidden around the Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts, and students have been encouraged to go hunting for them. Each one reveals a member of the cast, including Barry Keoghan, Paul Mescal, Joseph Quinn, and Harris Dickinson. Check some of the images out below.

It's a pretty interesting way to drum up interest in the films. LIPA was co-founded by Paul McCartney and has a studio named for George Harrison, so it's a fitting place for this little stunt. Still, it's a surprisingly limited way to start the buzz. Most people certainly won't be able to find these postcards themselves, but the images from those who are finding and posting them on Instagram are already gathering traction.

Sam Mendes' Beatles project will see four different movies shot simultaneously. As we understand it, each movie will tell, more or less, the same story of The Beatles, of their formation, success, and ending, but each will be shot from the perspective of a different member. One expects that events may not happen entirely identically in each film, as each person may see the events from a different point of view.

Barry Keoghan's Ringo looks amazing and like something right out of The Beatles' latter era. As a big Paul McCartney fan personally, I've been waiting to see how Paul Mescal pulled off the character. A lot of fans are going to be most interested in how John Lennon is portrayed in the films. Harris Dickinson certainly appears to have nailed the look.

Finally, we have the unsung hero of The Beatles, George Harrison. Joseph Quinn is set to play Harrison, and I can just hear the opening notes of "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" coming off this picture.

Beatlemania began in the 1960s and, to a certain extent, it's never really ended. We just recently saw the streaming debut of The Beatles Anthology, and Peter Jackson has spent about as much time working on Beatles documentaries for the last few years as he did on The Lord of the Rings. Needless to say, people are going to be excited when these movies all come out in quick succession, currently slated for early 2028.

Well, nobody can claim they don't look like The Beatles. They are as close to perfect as they'll need to be. Now I just need to hear the accents.

Emerald Fennell’s Saltburn was certainly a memorable film for its boundary-pushing scenes that left audiences both intrigued and unsettled. Barry Keoghan’s naked dance scene was wild and unexpected, but it worked well with the main character's motives in the sneaky con artist flick. The infamous bathtub scene also caused quite a fuss online, and now, Keoghan’s co-star, Jacob Elordi, has shared his thoughts on the "prudish" reactions.

In Saltburn’s viral bathtub scene, Jacob Elordi’s character, Felix, masturbated in a tub while Barry Keoghan’s Oliver was secretly watching. When Felix leaves, Oliver goes into the tub and slurps up the bathwater Felix was just in. After that shocking scene caused a stir online, the Euphoria actor spoke about it on EW’s Awardist podcast and shared his opinion on what he thinks that reaction says about today’s audiences:

Jacob Elordi continued to say how audiences seem to be more unfazed by on-screen violence than sexual content. It definitely raises a unique conversation on why seeing graphic violence is easier to take in compared to anything sexual.

While director Emerald Fennell called the bathtub scene “sexy,” I agree more with Barry Keoghan’s interpretation that drinking Felix's used bathwater is about his character’s obsession with wanting to consume Felix's lavish lifestyle. So I would say it’s more disturbing and symbolic compared to anything romantic or sexual, and it fits into the movie’s dark themes of class envy.

Going back to Elordi's thoughts on the matter, he went on about what he found “interesting” about the contrast between audiences' reactions to violent movies and the tension felt in psychologically twisted dramas:

While I can’t say for sure why audiences react with surprise to nude or sexually graphic scenes more than violent ones, it could be because you know what to expect with horror or action movies. You know going in that you’ll see the blood and gore the plot entails. But, with dark comedies like Saltburn, it's hard to tell what to expect. It could be that unpredictability is what keeps audiences on edge with a real curiosity about what lines can be drawn next. However, that's just my theory.

If Jacob Elordi is right about audiences being “prudish” about Saltburn’s infamous bathtub scene, that speaks volumes about how audiences tend to be more at ease with on-screen violence than anything explicitly intimate. But since these scenes go viral pretty quickly, their unexpectedness can spark conversation and force viewers to think about the film’s dark themes more. Additional Mark Ruffalo is seemingly everywhere, with a busy career that belies that title of the upcoming 2025 movie Now You See Me: Now You Don’t, as we’re also seeing him in HBO’s now-concluded crime drama Task, and he’s rumored to co-star in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Before that MCU flick arrives, though, he’ll be sharing the screen with not only fellow Avengers vet Chris Hemsworth, but also former X-Men franchise star Halle Berry (and The Batman’s maybe-Joker Barry Keoghan).

The upcoming 2026 movie in question is Amazon MGM’s Crime 101, which has finally unveiled its first trailer for the public, six months after the first footage was previewed at CinemaCon in Las Vegas. And by and large, it looks like Ruffalo and Hemsworth have slotted themselves into Al Pacino and Robert De Niro’s roles in Michael Mann’s Heat, with Hemsworth’s expert thief attempting to pull off a major heist despite all kinds of extra attention.

It's probably not a perfect 1:1 comparison, but it's not exactly a stretch. Set in Los Angeles, Crime 101 centers on the Thor portrayer's Davis, a canny jewel thief whose core M.O. is setting up his elaborate heists at spots along the 101 freeway. (In case anyone thought the movie title was about an introductory course.) A thief who strictly adheres to a self-imposed "code," Davis is set to take on the mythical "one last job" worth millions of dollars, and after meeting up with Halle Berry's insurance broker Sarah, he takes her on as his partner in crime.

Meanwhile, Mark Ruffalo's Det. Lou Lubesnik is attempting to figure out who's responsible for the line of robberies. His investigation deepens all while Davis and Sarah get closer to their big heist, and that's when the normal distinctions between cops and criminals starts to shift. No giant hammers or clothes-destroying Hulk-outs or anything, but pretty tense all the same.

Again, not exactly the same as Heat, but the basic building blocks are there, and I can't wait to see how it all shakes out, especially since the core trio of stars is buttressed by a wealth of supporting actors, as listed below:

Crime 101 is directed by The Imposter's Bart Layton, who also co-wrote the script alongside Oscar-winning writer Peter Straughton (Conclave). The film is an adaptation of Don Winslow's novella of the same name.

At this time, Michael Mann is putting together the highly anticipated sequel Heat 2, which may bring Leonardo DiCaprio into the fold, but we'll be watching Crime 101 long before that project hits the big screen.

Crime 101 is set to hit theaters on February 13, 2026, ahead of its eventual streaming release via Amazon Prime subscription.

In March 2024, an exceptionally ambitious project was announced. It was revealed that Sam Mendes was going to tell the story of Paul McCartney, John Lennon, Ringo Starr and George Harrison a.k.a. The Beatles, but rather than just making a single film, the filmmaker's plan is to make four separate feature that will each have a unique perspective from one of the bandmates. That's a hell of a lot for any director to take on – but a little over one year later, we have new updates about the movies, and the idea is even crazier than originally thought.

CinemaCon, the annual Las Vegas-based convention for movie theater owners, kicked off this evening at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace with a slate presentation from Sony Pictures, and the big capstone was a massive update about the upcoming Beatles movies. Sam Mendes took to the stage with Sony Pictures chairman/CEO Tom Rothman, and they not only announced the actors who will be playing the Fab Four, but they also unveiled plans to have all of the films in theaters in the same month.

It was previously announced that all of the Beatles movies would get a theatrical rollout at some point in 2027, but the dates were pushed back so that Sony could release what they are dubbing the "first bingable theatrical experience." Rather than coming out months apart, all four of the films will be arriving on the big screen in April 2028. It should go without saying that while we've seen plenty of productions begin with multi-picture plans, from Peter Jackson's Lord Of The Rings to Avengers: Infinity War/Avengers: Endgame, we've never seen a distribution strategy like this before. It's unclear at this point if they will all be coming out the same day or will debut one week apart (and in the latter case, we don't know in what order they will premiere).

That cast is also ripe with extreme talent and buzz, as all four actors have been earning great acclaim for their work in recent years and are considered prime up-and-comers. Paul Mescal is coming off of his first blockbuster in Gladiator II; Joseph Quinn, following standout work on Stranger Things, is playing Johnny Storm a.k.a. The Human Torch in Fantastic Four: First Steps; Barry Keoghan earned an Academy Award nomination for The Banshees Of Inisherin (not to mention that he's playing The Joker in Matt Reeves' The Batman films); and Harris Dickinson has earned high marks for titles like Babygirl and Triangle Of Sadness.

Per Sam Mendes, all four of the movies about Paul McCartney, John Lennon, Ringo Starr and George Harrison will feature specific points of view and will crossover at certain moments in their stories. That's a special and tremendously exciting idea, and I can't wait to see how it all turns out.

We'll surely hear a lot more about these movies very soon as principal photography starts (it's totally wild that Sam Mendes is planning to make four distinct features in about three years). Like millions of people around the world, I spent five hours watching Marvel slowly roll out all those Avengers: Doomsday names in March 2025, and like a lot of people, I was bummed a few of the biggest MCU stars, including Ryan Reynolds, didn’t have a chair. While it may be true that we will see more additions as we work toward the release of the upcoming Marvel movie, I was shocked by some of the names left out of the excruciatingly long cast announcement.

That said, here’s a list of some of those beloved MCU actors I really hope we see when the Russo Brothers’ Avengers: Doomsday opens on the big screen in May 2026. It’s a long list (no, not as long as that video), so let’s get started…

Ryan Reynolds

Ryan Reynolds, who has played Deadpool since the Fox days, has made a habit of teasing his return to the MCU ever since the release of Deadpool & Wolverine in 2024. I totally thought we’d see his name on one of those chairs in that seemingly endless lineup, which is why I’m so bummed the wise-cracking, R-rated, and lethal hero wasn’t included.

In an ideal world, Reynolds’ return would also include the likes of Dafne Keen, Wesley Snipes, Jennifer Garner, and Leslie Uggams (you can’t have Deadpool without Blind Al).

Tom Holland

With the Spider-Man 4 release date so close to the Avengers: Doomsday rollout, it would be shocking if Tom Holland doesn’t show up in the massive crossover film a few months before his new Web-Slinger adventure. The highly in-demand actor seemed like a shoo-in to be included in the gargantuan list filled with all his MCU buddies. There are rumors that Holland won’t be in the next Avengers film, but I’m not totally convinced at this point.

Samuel L. Jackson

Samuel L. Jackson has been a part of the MCU since he showed up in Tony Stark’s house and revealed himself as Nick Fury way back in Iron Man. Since then, he’s popped up in all of the Avengers movies, so I was a little saddened and surprised by his omission from the absurdly long cast list for Doomsday. I mean, Fury is still alive on the Marvel Cinematic timeline after the events of The Marvels.

Chris Evans

Even though his version of Captain America retired during the Avengers: Endgame ending, Chris Evans has reappeared in the MCU (Johnny Flame in Deadpool & Wolverine), so I wouldn’t be shocked if some character played by the franchise mainstay shows up by the time it’s all said and done. Evans has been cagey about a possible return in the past, but not seeing his name on the back of a chair is a little disheartening, if I’m being honest.

Mark Ruffalo

Mark Ruffalo has been one of my favorite MCU actors ever since he took on the role of Bruce Banner/The Hulk in 2012’s The Avengers. He’s been there for all the major moments in the franchise since then, but now I’m starting to think his iconic character won’t be saving the planet, galaxy, universe, or multiverse with his old buddies next summer. This can’t happen. I mean, who’s going to give Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man an extra taco?

Benedict Cumberbatch

Is Benedict Cumberbatch bringing back Doctor Strange (third eye and all) for Avengers: Doomsday? I don’t know because the longtime Marvel staple wasn’t included in the longest line of chairs I’ve ever seen. The actor’s comments about his return to the MCU have been all over the place, with his most recent comments to Business Insider in January 2025 making it sound like he could possibly return.

Don Cheadle

Though the Armor Wars project seems to be up in the air, I thought Don Cheadle would for sure be a part of the upcoming Avengers movie. James Rhodes has been a part of the franchise since the very beginning, and Cheadle’s version of the character has had a part in three of the four crossover films to date.

Brie Larson

Another big name missing from the “Infinity Scroll of Chairs” was Brie Larson, whose Captain Marvel has long been one of the strongest heroes in the entire MCU. We last saw her in The Marvels back in 2023, so she’s due for a return at this point. The same can be said about co-stars Teyonah Parris and Iman Vellani, who play Monica Rambeau and Kamala Khan, respectively. I’d be shocked if they didn’t appear.

Jeremy Renner

Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye has had one of the craziest journeys in the MCU over the years. The underrated Avenger has been through it all, and I’ll be bummed if he’s not part of Doomsday next year. He famously wasn’t part of the Avengers: Infinity War cast, so maybe, just maybe, we’ll see him in Avengers: Secret Wars in a few years.

Charlie Cox

With Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdoch very much a part of the MCU again with the recent arrival of Daredevil: Born Again, I will be shocked if the actor doesn’t appear in Avengers: Doomsday. His name is on the rise (both the actor and character), so his absence could be felt a great deal.

Also, I would love to see Cox’s Defenders co-stars like Mike Colter, Finn Jones, and Krysten Ritter have some kind of role in what appears to be the biggest Marvel movie in years.

Halle Berry

Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, and several other major players from the original X-Men movies were all announced for Avengers: Doomsday, but there was one actress whose absence really bummed me out: Halle Berry. Whenever the music would change and the camera would pan to the right, I kept hoping to see the Storm actress listed on a chair, but it never came.

The same can be said about Famke Janssen, Anna Paquin, and Hugh Jackman, three other major names from the franchise who are oddly missing from the cast list.

The Guardians Of The Galaxy

Though Dave Bautista and Pom Klementieff seem to be finished with the MCU after the events of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, the rest of the actors should still be in play moving forward. With Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Bradley Cooper, Karen Gillan, and Vin Diesel being major parts of the last two Avengers movies, it will be odd not to see them in the upcoming Doomsday. I really hope that changes, as I’d love to see that ragtag group of space scoundrels save the day again.

The Eternals

After Captain America: Brave New World referenced Eternals earlier in the year, it felt like maybe this oft-forgotten MCU movie would be getting some attention again. However, none of the actors from the 2021 epic were included in the Avengers: Doomsday rollout. I guess we’ll have to wait longer to figure out what’s going on with the group played by Angelina Jolie, Richard Madden, Gemma Chan, and Barry Keoghan.

Other Marvel Stars I Want To See In Avengers: Doomsday

On top of all these names and various groups, I would love to see even more actors from the Marvel Cinematic Universe show up in Avengers: Doomsday. From longtime staples like Paul Bettany, Elizabeth Olsen, Hayley Atwell, and Scarlett Johansson (nobody stays dead forever, right?) to other fan favorites played by the likes of Benedict Wong, Dafne Keen, Lupita Nyong’o, Awkwafina, and Danai Guirara to actors introduced in post-credit scenes like Brett Goldstein and Charlize Theron, there are just so many familiar faces that could show up.

Will any or all of these actors show up in Avengers: Doomsday or its sequel? I really hope so.

It's always fun to see what upcoming horror movies are on the way, but this spring the genre will receive an interesting twist thanks to The Weeknd getting his hands on it. Following Abel Tesfaye releasing Hurry Up Tomorrow, his sixth and final studio album under The Weeknd last week, the first trailer for his movie of the same name is here. And I'm especially interested in what is being teased for Jenna Ortega's mysterious character.

In the Hurry Up Tomorrow trailer (which can be viewed above), we get a first glimpse of The Weeknd's movie. While I wasn't sure what to expect from it, it seems like the movie will have Abel Tesfaye playing himself (or a fictionalized version of himself, anyway), who seems very much haunted by something. Jenna Ortega co-stars in the movie with him as his girlfriend, but there are hints here and there that seem to suggest there will be a lot more to her. Why does she say she's "not trying to hurt" him before coldly apologizing to him? Why is she pouring gas all over someone's house and running off? Why does Abel seem so stressed and confused by her? The questions are piling up!

Jenna Ortega has become a mainstay in horror movies in the last few years in things like the recent Scream movies, X and horror-esque properties like Wednesday and Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. She also co-starred with Sabrina Carpenter in last year’s very bloody Taste music video. Now, she’s working next to The Weeknd for his debut film that looks like it will be very creepy and twisted. As Tesfaye says in the trailer: “WTF”!! Also, I’m so confused about who Barry Keoghan is playing in the thriller.

The Hurry Up Tomorrow album just came out, but watching the trailer also has me wanting to listen to it more closely to look for hints regarding how the music and movie’s plotline might be connected. Considering what I’ve read about it thus far, I imagine Hurry Up Tomorrow might have some commentary on the isolation of fame and such. I also am curious if some of the imagery from his collaboration with Universal Horror Nights (including last year’s Nightmare Trilogy house) will be involved at all.

When The Weeknd spoke about working with Jenna Ortega recently, he said she “brought so much depth to the character”. In one instance he remembers himself and director Trey Edward Shults thought one scene was “just ridiculous,” but she said she had “an idea” about the scene and went for it on set and Tesfaye’s reaction was “not acting.” Ortega also called The Weeknd a “sweetheart” on set who really “looked out for everyone on set” and a pleasure to get to know.

Hurry Up Tomorrow was co-written by Tesfaye alongside Waves and It Comes At Night filmmaker Trey Edward Shults, who also helmed the film. It’s another one of the upcoming 2025 movies I’m now curious about. You can check it out in theaters on May 16.

Sabrina Carpenter has a song all about how it’s “Slim Pickins” out there, and it seems that she still believes that to be true. Following her breakup with Barry Keoghan, the pop star noted that during a concert, saying that the idea of there being plenty of fish in the sea is a “big fat lie, I think.”

Many songs on Carpenter’s hit album Short ‘n Sweet aren’t exactly optimistic about love. However, she was in a relationship with the actor when it came out, and it seemed like she was extremely happy. Well, now, they’re broken up, and the pop star was seen lamenting about the lack of good dating options at The Ally Coalition talent show at the NYU Skirball Theatre.

Taking the stage with Jack Antonoff and his band Bleachers to sing her song “Slim Pickins” – a track they wrote together – Carpenter noted that the song was written as a response to the phrase “plenty of fish in the sea.” She said she wasn’t feeling great about that these days, and as she talked about the notion she told the crowd the following (via Us Weekly):

Adding to this comment that proves it’s not all rainbows, butterflies and heart-shaped toilets for Carpenter, she did joke that her song about this topic is more “pessimistic” than her personal outlook on things.

These comments come not long after news broke that the “Esspresso” singer and the Saltburn actor had called it quits.

The two were together for almost a year, and throughout 2024, they were seen quite a bit together. Keoghan supported Carpenter at Coachella and Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour. He also was in her “Please, Please, Please” music video, appearing in handcuffs and near the singer as she sang about not wanting to be embarrassed or have her ego taken down because of a relationship.

Now, the two have gone their separate ways. According to a source who spoke to Us Weekly, the breakup allegedly happened because they got busy and spending so much time apart was difficult. The insider claimed:

Other than Keoghan posting about deleting his social media – which didn’t include a direct reference to his ex – the two haven’t really commented on what happened to their relationship. However, based on Carpenter’s most recent statement about the dating game, she thinks that it is indeed “Slim Pickins” out there.

While she seemingly might not be optimistic about love at the moment, her career is something to get excited about, because it’s exploded. Her album is a certified hit, she’s been performing and appearing all over the place, and she even has a hilarious Christmas special (A Nonsense Christmas) that is available with a Netflix subscription.

Meanwhile, The Banshees of Inisherin actor’s career is thriving too, as he’ll appear in the Peaky Blinders film – which will likely be on the 2025 movie schedule – and has a handful of other projects in the works.

So, while they both might be worried that they’ll “end this life alone,” they are thriving professionally. And as we learn more about their personal lives and their outlook on the world of dating, we’ll be sure to keep you updated.

Another pair that have been turning heads lately has been Barry Keoghan and Sabrina Carpenter, especially after he appeared in Carpenter's recent music video. It's because of this success and Carpenter becoming one of the top pop girlies out there that some folks seems to gobsmacked that things ended between her and Barry Keoghan. As another fan tweeted:

Earlier this year, it was revealed that Skyfall and 1917 director Sam Mendes will helm four movies about The Beatles, all of which will be released over the course of one year. Following that initial announcement, though, there haven’t been any major updates on how the projects are coming along. However, according to a comment from Ringo Starr, the drummer from arguably the most popular band ever, it seems like Barry Keoghan will play him in these Beatles movies, and I think this is a great choice.

Following reports surfacing of Keoghan’s involvement in Mendes’ Beatles movies, Entertainment Tonight asked Starr, who’s one of the band’s two surviving members alongside Paul McCartney, what he thought of the casting. He threw his full support behind it, saying:

Now keep in mind, this was Ringo Starr reacting to the prospect of Barry Keoghan playing him on the big screen. It’s unclear from this statement if this constitutes official confirmation from him or just his personal opinion stemming from information that came elsewhere. Although these four movies won’t come out until 2027, it’s previously been reported that production is expected to begin in the United Kingdom in mid-2025. So ideally, we should be learning in the next few months if Barry Keoghan will indeed appear in these biopics, as well as who will play Paul McCartney, John Lennon and George Harrison.

That said, if Keoghan is set to play Ringo Starr, I’m all for it. The actor’s been on the rise in recent years thanks to movies like Dunkirk, Eternals, Saltburn and The Banshees of Inisherin, the latter of which led to him being nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. He has the talent to effectively play Starr in these Beatles movies, and I wouldn’t be surprised if doing so not only nets him another Academy Award nomination, but sees him winning that golden honor. This could end up being a bigger deal than him getting an expanded role as The Joker in the Batman Epic Crime Saga.

Sam Mendes’ Beatles movies will focus on a different member’s point of view, meaning Keoghan, or whomever ends up playing Ringo Starr, will have one movie where he’s the center of attention, and he’ll be more of a supporting player in the others. The story chronicling the key events in the band’s rise to pop culture sensations will end with their 1970 breakup. These will be the first scripted movies about The Beatles ever made, and while Mendes is directing all four, a different writer is tackling each one.

A lot of fans are certainly looking forward to Matt Reeves' The Batman Part II for many reasons. Chief among them, however, is the fact that the end of The Batman teased the appearance of The Joker, who's being played in this universe by Barry Keoghan. At this point, what we know about The Batman sequel is fairly limited, including whether or not Keoghan's Joker will actually appear in it. It turns out even the actor doesn't know, though if he does play the role, he is well aware of just how big a responsibility it is.

The Joker is a big role no matter how you look at it. He's one of the most popular characters in all of comic books, which has resulted in him becoming one of the most popular characters in movies. Two different actors have won Oscars playing Joker, which is an incredible statistic. Speaking with the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Barry Keoghan admitted that taking on the role is a really big deal, although, at this point, he apparently knows nothing about what the future holds for him. The fact that Barry Keoghan hasn't heard anything about The Batman: Part II certainly gives us an indication of where the state of the film is at this point. A recent report indicated that the script might actually be done, and while James Gunn recently debunked that report, indications are that it may be very close to completion. Andy Serkis indicated filming could start early next year.

Of course, there may be a reason that Barry Keoghan hasn't heard anything about the Joker in the future of Matt Reeves' Batman franchise and that's that he may not actually be a part of The Batman: Part II. A recent rumor indicated that the Joker may actually be the primary antagonist for The Batman: Part III, and there also might be a Joker-focused series, similar to the recently concluded The Penguin series on Max, set in between The Batman: Part II and Part III. If that's the case, then perhaps The Joker won't appear in the next film or, similar to the first film, will only have a small part.

Still, one has to wonder if the actor might know a little bit more than he's letting on. Matt Reeves certainly had some purpose in putting The Joker in the final moments of The Batman, and even if he did not have a specific plan for the character at that point, it seems just sort of impossible that he would have included Joker without plans to do something with him sooner rather than later.

As The Batman’s ending was unfolding, viewers saw the incarcerated Riddler hit it off with another inmate at Arkham, who was identified as this universe’s Joker. Days later, a deleted scene giving us significant screen time with Barry Keoghan’s Joker was released, and now the world awaits what’s next for this take on the Clown Prince of Crime. While that information is officially locked up tighter than Bruce Wayne’s armory in the Batcave, unofficially, there’s a rumor sharing that Keoghan’s Joker is going to factor into multiple upcoming Batman movies and TV shows.

First shared by the Marvelvision podcast, and then confirmed by Slashfilm, Warner Bros. Pictures is allegedly formulating plans to spotlight The Batman’s version of The Joker in multiple projects. While what we know about The Batman: Part II doesn’t include if Barry Keoghan will be present yet, the rumor states that Joker will be The Batman: Part III’s main villain. Additionally, there’s also talk of making a “Joker-oriented series” set between Part II and Part III in the same vein as The Penguin, which has been airing on HBO and can be streamed with a Max subscription. That said, it was then clarified that this could be either a series where Joker is the main protagonist or just “a series the Joker is in.”

Assuming all this information is accurate, then clearly big things are in store for The Joker in the Batman Epic Crime Saga, even if the finer details haven’t been worked out yet. Considering how critically successful The Penguin has been, along with The Joker being Batman’s most well-known adversary, I would be shocked if a TV series involving Barry Keoghan’s Joker didn’t move forward. The trick there, however, is if it’s possible to depict the character in a sympathetic light. It’s one thing to do that with Oz Cobb (although that reveal from the The Penguin’s penultimate episode make it even harder to sympathize with him), but another thing to do it with Joker, who is often depicted as pure evil.

The Batman began two years after Robert Pattinson's Bruce Wayne started beating up criminals as a costume vigilante, and at some point during those early outings, he crossed paths with The Joker, as they were already familiar with each other in the aforementioned deleted scene. Whatever his crimes were, Barry Keoghan’s take on the character is clearly a bad seed. So keeping that in mind, it might be wiser to approach a Joker series by having him fill the lead antagonist role comfortable and use someone else as the “protagonist.”

Whether or not that happens, I like the idea of saving Joker as The Batman: Part III’s main villain. This doesn’t mean he couldn’t still appear in Part II, but considering how many other live-action interpretations of the character we’ve gotten over the last decade, plus how there are various other Batman villains who deserve time to shine in a movie, it’s best to save him as a treat of delayed gratification.That’s assuming, of course, that Part III ends up being greenlit someday, although it’s probably safe to say the odds of that happening are stronger than not.

For now, The Penguin will conclude its eight-episode first season (maybe Season 2 is in the cards after all) this Sunday on HBO. The Batman: Part II is due out in theaters October 2, 2026.

It’s been nearly a year since the release of Saltburn and yet, it appears that the world’s fascination with a naked Barry Keoghan hasn’t waned very much. The world still wants to know, was that really him stripped naked in the film. The actor insists that, yes, it was, and it was all him.

Barry Keoghan has spoken at…length about his nudity in Saltburn. The film is fairly graphic in every conceivable way. Appearing on The Louis Theroux Podcast, host Louis Theroux brought up the iconic dance sequence. Keoghan at first joked that it wasn’t actually him. The host followed up with questions about how much of it was him, suggesting that perhaps he had been “enhanced” for the scene, a suggestion that truly shocked the actor. Keoghan responded…

The idea that Keoghan could have used a body double had certainly been suggested previously, but the idea that he had used some sort of prosthetic was apparently new, and a bit shocking to the actor.

So to be clear, yes, if you watch Saltburn you are seeing Barry Keoghan dance around with no clothes on and every shot you see of that is actually him. While actors are certainly expected to do some pretty crazy things now and then, there’s every reason that Barry Keoghan should have batted an eye at this particular request.

While male nudity on film certainly isn’t unheard of, it’s also very much not the norm. Still, Keoghan insists that it wasn’t a big deal because he understood why the scene was needed in the film. The actor then explained why the scene works in the film and why he didn’t have a problem doing it. We all walk around naked in our houses sometimes. He continued…

Perhaps at some point, the world will have moved on from Barry Keoghan’s junk, but today is not that day. Honestly, the continued conversation simply shows that Saltburn is a movie that hasn’t yet faded from memory. Some of that may be due to Saltburn's multiple memorable scenes but were it not for the strong performances from Keoghan and others, those scenes likely would have been forgotten by now.

I’m surely not alone in thinking that Mark Hamill is the GOAT of actors who’ve played The Joker in some form of media. The actor set a high standard when he debuted as the villain decades ago on Batman: The Animated Series. Since then, though, other performers have put their own unique spins on the iconic antagonist, including Barry Keoghan. The Irish actor certainly recognizes veterans, as he recently paid tribute to Hamill, which led to a sweet interaction between them. Now, I’d like Hollywood to give them a movie ASAP.

Barry Keoghan, who played Joker in Matt Reeves’ The Batman, recently took to his Instagram story to share a clip of Mark Hamill from an interview. The Green Knight actor captioned his post by tagging Hamill and noting, “ya pure legend.” Hamill himself eventually saw the sweet tribute and reposted Keoghan’s post. The Star Wars icon then added a sweet message of his own about the “gifted” Keoghan, and you can read it in its entirety below:

When it comes to the entertainment industry, few moments are sweeter than those that involve actors supporting each other. This one is especially sweet for me as a Batman fan, given it’s a back-and-forth between two people who’ve portrayed the Clown Prince of Crime. Aside from those respective roles, both performers have delivered stellar work throughout their careers and have developed distinct styles. It’s for that reason that I would love to see them paired up in a film.

There are plenty of possibilities when it comes to a movie starring Mark Hamill and Barry Keoghan. A comedic road film that sees the two playing mismatched travelers or even father and son would be excellent. Of course, something more dramatic would also suffice. Imagine a flick in which Mark Hamill plays a detective tracking down a serial killer played by Keoghan – or vice versa. I don’t know about you, but you but I’m geeking out just thinking about ideas.

As for their Joker-related work, both actors are in very different places right now. Mark Hamill is seemingly done voicing the character following Crisis on Infinite Earths, Part Three. His heartbreaking reason for retiring stems from the death of longtime co-star and beloved Batman voice actor Kevin Conroy. Months after sharing those comments, Hamill doubled down on his Joker stance, which was both sad and understandable.

Barry Keoghan’s time playing the maniacal Gotham City criminal is seemingly just beginning. He appeared in two scenes from The Batman, with one of those being released separately months after the film hit theaters. At one point, the Saltburn star said he had big plans for Joker in the upcoming sequel, The Batman – Part II. However, as production on that movie now ramps up, Keoghan is humorously trying to dodge questions about his future as the character.

Whatever Barry Keoghan’s career holds for him, I just hope he and Mark Hamill have a chance to work on a movie at some point in the future. Quite frankly, unless their schedules can never align, I can’t think of a good reason not to bring them together for a film. I guess if that doesn’t happen, though, the silver lining is that the two are, at the very least, admirers of each other’s work.

Since Matt Reeves’ The Batman hit theaters in 2022, fans (including myself) have been waiting for the sequel. The Batman – Part II will be released in 2026, so there's still quite a wait. At the very least, progress is being made, as Reeves and co. are deep in pre-production right now. With that, the filmmaker has been answering a few questions about his plans for the film, and he’s managed to avoid dropping spoilers. Also trying his best to not spill any beans is Joker actor Barry Keoghan, who’s already doing so in a humorous fashion.

Amid the flurry of unknowns regarding the future of this Batman saga, it would seem that fans would really like to know what lies ahead for Barry Keoghan’s Joker. The iconic villain’s inclusion in the forthcoming sequel is far from confirmed at this point. However, based on a recent interview with Variety, Keoghan is taking great care when it comes to answering questions. When posed with the query regarding the future of his DC baddie, the Irish actor smiled and bashfully covered his face. He also shared some honest comments:

Actors who are involved with superhero movie franchises surely know that they’re limited when it comes to what they can and can’t say at a given time. Those NDAs are iron-clad and must be abided by, after all. The Banshees of Inisherin alum’s playfully nervous comments definitely indicate that. In the X clip shared by Variety, the interviewer had some fun with the star, saying that he was cleared to share details. However, while trying to hold back nervous laughter, he merely had this to say:

Barry Keoghan, who I’m giving kudos for sticking to his guns, had an interesting journey to the role of the Joker. Of his own volition, he initially sent in a tape to audition for the Riddler, who was ultimately played by Paul Dano. But, luckily, for the Saltburn star, Matt Reeves later reached out to ask if he wanted to play the Clown Prince of Crime. After undergoing a grueling makeup process, Keoghan filmed two scenes as Mr. J. One of those scenes appeared in the movie, while the other – which was much longer – was later released separately.

As far as The Batman – Part II goes, Matt Reeves recently revealed to our sister site, SFX Magazine (via Deadline) that production kicks off in 2025 and that the script is being finished now. While he didn’t give away too many plot details, he did confirm that Colin Farrell’s Oswald Cobblepot will return following the events of the Penguin limited series. Reeves also stressed that the movie will avoid using any fantastical villains, keeping with the grounded nature of the established universe. So that could indeed leave the door open for more Joker, whose portrayer had big plans for him at one point.

I’m hopeful that fans will indeed see Barry Keoghan’s Joker return in Matt Reeves’ highly anticipated sequel. For the foreseeable future, though, it seems that Keoghan is just going to have to do his best to side-step any questions. And, should this most recent interview be any indication, his attempts to do so will be somewhat delightful.

The pop star truly has had a breakout summer as she’s topped herself with the hits “Espresso” and “Please, Please, Please.” Plus, between her performing at Coachella, dating an Oscar-nominated actor and touring with Taylor Swift (among other things) she’s taken over the zeitgeist in a lot of ways. Now, she’s adding walking a runway to that list, and we love that for her.

An insider reflected on Sabrina Carpenter’s meteoric rise this summer with Life and Style Magazine. While she’s been a fairly successful artist for a while now, there’s no denying that what happened to her career over the last few months is astonishing. The insider said:

In the first months of the year, Carpenter was opening for Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour, and she even came on stage to perform a surprise song with the megastar. Then, Coachella came around, she dropped “Espresso” and things really took off.

For example, when she was the musical guest on SNL there was nonstop talk about her song “Nonsense” and its outro. Fans also have a newfound appreciation for her boyfriend Barry Keoghan after seeing him at the Met Gala with her, in one of her videos and at her concerts. And we haven't even gotten to her new music yet.

Now, Sabrina Carpenter Has Added Walking The Runway To Her List Of Hits

Adding to her already remarkable year, Sabrina Carpenter walked in the Vogue World: Paris show at the Place Vendôme on June 23. She looked remarkable in custom JACQUEMUS, and the vintage pinup look fits in perfectly with the aesthetic she’s been rocking recently, take a look:

According to JACQUEMUS' IG post about the show, it was “dedicated to the ‘40s and swimwear, and I totally feel that, especially in Carpenter’s fit. The red and white stripes were so bold and fun, and she looked ready for a chic day in the sun, which is totally on brand for her.

Hollywood's male beauty standards have changed throughout the years. The Golden Age of the industry presented rugged masculinity with Humphrey Bogart and Kirk Douglas, while the 1980s gave us hyper-masculine macho men like Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone. And, of course, 1990s presented more boy-next-door-type men like Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise. Tastes just keep on changing in regard to what audiences like. And, now, the Internet is getting in on the "sex rat boyfriend" trend, which includes Timothèe Chalamet, Barry Keoghan and more stars.

This trend has apparently been seeing quite an uptick as of late. To put it simply, the “hot rodent man” or the “sexy rat boyfriend” trend describes slim men, according to the magazine Dazed. These are individuals who aren't considered “conventionally handsome,” but that quality only makes them even more attractive to the masses. In one tweet, a fan explained why the star of Saltburn was their choice  of Internet boyfriend amid this trend: 

That sentiment is in reference to watching Barry Keoghan getting handcuffed by his real-life girlfriend, Sabrina Carpenter, in her music video for “Please Please Please.” We see Keoghan’s bad boy side come out when he’s smashing faces and robbing banks in the video, while Carpenter continuously bails him out. Keoghan’s sex symbol status may have been amplified with his nude scenes in Saltburn, but his presence in the video was the icing on the cake many probably didn’t know they needed. Considering his smoldering looks in the production, it's not hard to see why many would be enamored with him.

It's also interesting that Timothèe Chalamet considered to be part of the “rat boy summer” trend. If you recall Chalamet's best movies, he's played a sexually awakened teen in Call Me By Your Name, a pretentious high-school crush in Lady Bird and the romantic desire of Amy Marsh in Little Women. On the surface, the star -- who's been romantically linked to Kylie Jenner for some time now -- does fit the bill. Another X post described the Internet’s new preferred type of a leading man:

I'm not sure just how many people saw this trend coming, but it only seems to be gaining momentum from this point on. One factoid that an X user pointed out was that audiences actually saw these “sexy rodent men” in Luca Guadagnino’s latest movie, Challengers:

When looking back at the tennis romance movie, it’s true that Mike Faist and Josh O'Conner's characters may not have been at the conventional level of attractiveness. Nevertheless, critics still hailed Challengers as a “blisteringly sexy” grand slam. When thinking about the sweat dripping from their faces as well as those bold arm muscles blaring with each tennis swing in slow-motion, you can see why these two stars were considered eye candy.

Another funny post had something else to add about the trend, specifically as far as Luca Guadagnino’s movie is concerned. The person shared what they actually see when they think of the characters of Patrick and Art:

Whether this “sexy rat boyfriend” trend continues to pick up steam as the summer goes on remains to be seen. It's downright interesting how this particular trend has manifested, and I'm curious as to how it'll develop. Regardless of this specific fad though, I'd like to think that Timothée Chalamet, Barry Keoghan and their peers will continue to amass admirers regardless. Those who are already fans of them and other A-listers should check out the schedule of 2024 movie releases so you'll know when the stars will appear on the big screen next.

Emerald Fennell is a filmmaker with a unique point of view, and nowhere was that more obvious that in her recent dark comedy Saltburn. The movie (which can be streamed with an Amazon Prime subscription), is a twisted project that went viral for a number of wild scenes, including Barry Kegohan's nude dance. But no sequence is more well-known than Saltburn's bath tub scene, where Keoghan's character Oliver drinks the bath water of Jacob Elordi's Felix after he masturbates into it. Now the Saltburn soundtrack's vinyl is here, and its a wild spin on that tub scene.

Throughout the film's runtime, Oliver does a number of truly wild and NSFW things. Barry Keoghan's character masturbates on a fresh grave at one point, but the bath tub scene the one that broke the internet. The Twitter of Blood Records revealed the pressing of Saltburn's vinyl, which features some "bath water" that looks shockingly milky. Check out the video below: 

I mean, how bananas is that? While vinyl records are available with patterns and wild colors, I've never seen one with liquid in the pressing. Let alone Saltburn bath water, which looks like it has some of Jacob Elordi's genetic material mixed in. Well, that's one way to make a big impression with your record collection. 

CinemaBlend's Saltburn review praised the film's big swings, including the wild and unexpected places that protagonist/villain Oliver goes throughout its 131-minute runtime. Making the bath tub scene such a part of the vinyl is genius-level marketing, and I'm eager to see how many fans of Fennell's thriller order their own copy. 

Prior to Saltburn, Emerald Fennell's movie Promising Young Woman also made a splash for its bold vision and creative choices. The movie got nominated for a number of Academy Awards, with Fennell winning an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay. While Saltburn was not quite as universally acclaimed, it should be interesting to see what comes next for the filmmaker. She's not currently attached to direct anything, and I'm eager to see what type of project is her Saltburn follow-up. 

While the bath tub scene in Saltburn is outrageous and inspired countless memes since its release, it does also move the plot forward. It shows how twisted Oliver's obsession with Felix is becoming, and things only get more crazy from there. Perhaps it should have been a red flag teasing the dark ending of Saltburn, which shows that Barry Keoghan's character was manipulating Felix and his family from the beginning, ala All About Eve. That nude dance scene is the final cherry on top, and helped make "Murder on the Dancefloor" a revived hit song in the process.

Barry Keoghan has certainly been on the come up over the past several years, as the Irish actor has landed roles in some major films. All the while, he’s also earned notoriety due to his reported relationship with pop star Sabrina Carpenter. The two just made headlines amid the release of Carpenter’s latest music video, which put Keoghan in handcuffs. And, as that video continues to go viral, it would seem that many now seem to “understand” the hype surrounding the songstress’ boyfriend. What’s really making me break out my popcorn, though, are the Marvel-related comments that some people have shared.

It’s interesting to think that the The Banshees of Inisherin actor is only now seemingly getting praise from a wider audience. Still, it would seem that his appearance in the video for “Please Please Please” has swayed a number of people over to his side. In it, Sabrina Carpenter is released from jail and, while fixing her lipstick, she spots another offender (played by Barry Keoghan) being placed in a cell of his own. From there, viewers see the up-and-down relationship between their two characters play out. Needless to say, it’s a perfect showcase not only for Carpenter but for Keoghan as well. It's particularly funny to see a comment like the one belonging to @alleverdreamer, who said that the songstress has now “really made me understand” the hype surrounding the rising Hollywood star. Sentiments from others definitely seem to align with that thought, but a portion of commenters say they’ve understood the appeal for some time. With that, many are saying that their appreciation for the star can be attributed to his performance in Marvel Studios’ Eternals:

One of the more unique entries in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Eternals focuses on the titular group of cosmic beings, who must defend Earth from the vicious deviants. Barry Keoghan plays the enigmatic Druig, who has the power to control people’s minds. Notably, the character also becomes disillusioned with his cohort’s goal to stay out of human conflicts that don’t directly involve their aforementioned foes. The star plays the role in a relatively subtle way, and his charm shines through. That's especially true whenever he’s on screen with Lauren Ridloff’s Makkari.

It’s honestly not hard to see why so many have gotten in on the fandom surrounding the actor, regardless of whether it was prompted by Sabrina Carpenter’s video or his MCU debut. He’s proven to be one of the most interesting stars in all of Hollywood over the past several years, intriguing fans with his sweet fits and endearingly quirky personality. And, of course, he’s an impeccable actor, who’s shown off his strong acting chops on more than a few occasions. In addition to his roles in the aforementioned productions, he also has acclaimed films like Dunkirk, The Killing of the Sacred Deer, The Batman and Saltburn (for which he did a NSFW gravesite scene and more) under his belt. The 31-year-old has even made a dent in TV with Love/Hate, Chernobyl and Masters of the Air.

Needless to say, Barry Keoghan is on a roll, and I’m happy to see him getting his flowers. Sabrina Carpenter’s music video may do a lot to boost his public profile, yet I truly smile knowing that his MCU film is what helped put him on so many fans’ radar. It’s unclear whether Eternals 2 is happening, but I’m sure some would flock to the theaters for a chance to see Keoghan as Druig again.

Oh boy, it’s gonna be the summer that Sabrina Carpenter officially takes over, isn’t it? I’m ready and into it. The pop singer, who recently toured with Taylor Swift on her Eras Tour, has been in everyone’s head as of late with her No. 1 hit “Espresso.” Now Carpenter has just dropped the second single off her upcoming album, and she brought Barry Keoghan along for the ride… in handcuffs. 

Carpenter and Oscar-nominee Keoghan have been haven’t been shy about their romance since it bloomed late last year. Keoghan has often been seen supporting her at shows, such as at a recent performance in England and at Coachella, where Carpenter waved to him in the middle of her set. She even referenced the Saltburn bathwater scene in one of her lyrics. Now the actor is her leading man in her very funny and action-packed music video for the song “Please Please Please.” Check it out: 

Well, that was incredible! In the brand-new video, Sabrina Carpenter has just been bailed out of jail and is fixing her lipstick up as she catches a glimpse of Barry Keoghan in handcuffs being placed in a cell at the same time. Then, '80s synths usher in another bop of a song from the singer. 

The “Please Please Please” music video then details a tumultuous, but rather funny romance (you know her and her “twisted humor”) that has Carpenter in trouble over and over again thanks to all the bad business her man gets mixed into. She’s always there to greet him whenever he is let out, only to be thrown in another dire circumstance, from fights at the back of restaurants to bank holdups. 

My favorite line has to be “I have a fun idea babe, maybe just stay inside. I know you’re craving some fresh air, but the ceiling fan is so nice”. The whole video goes really well with the lyrics, allowing Carpenter’s personality to shine through amidst the song delving into her getting herself into a toxic relationship. 

It’s quite rare for an artist to actually inject their real partner into a music video. It’s kind of giving the same vibe as Jennifer Lopez when she put Ben Affleck in “Jenny From The Block” in the best way (or again with his recent cameo in her recent visual album). BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend proved to be massive for Sabrina Carpenter, who was already on the rocketship to superstardom, and it also featured some very sweet moments from two of the men she was with. That’s right, as the pop star brought her A-game to the big stage, her boyfriend, Barry Keoghan was spotted sweetly watching from the wings. However, it was the singer she shared the stage with, Coldplays’ Chris Martin, who really proved to be the ultimate gentleman at the event. 

Barry Keoghan Was Spotted Supporting Sabrina Carpenter During Her Big Performance 

Following Sabrina Carpenter’s incredible SNL performance (which you can watch with a Peacock subscription) she hopped over the pond to perform at the BBC’s massive music festival. As she performed her hits like “Espresso” and “Nonsense” with the viral outro rewrite, fans quickly noticed that Barry Keoghan was watching her kill it from backstage, which you can see in the TikTok below:

Over the last few months, the Banshees of Inisherin actor has proven to be quite the gent, following Carpenter from performance to performance, showing her all the love. Earlier this year, he attended the Eras Tour and took part in its traditions as the “Feather” singer opened for Taylor Swift. Later in the spring, he was spotted front and center at Coachella, where his girlfriend waved at him from the stage. 

While we’ve come to know Barry Keoghan for his best movies – like Banshees and Saltburn – these days, he’s also adored for his sweet relationship with Sabrina Carpenter. However, when we look at BBC’s Big Weekend as a whole, the real gentlemanly moment came from Chris Martin, who coincidentally, was the other fellow heavily involved with the “Nonsense” singer’s big weekend.

Let’s start with how these two experiences connect. During BBC’s festival, Sabrina Carpenter performed her own set, and she sang with Coldplay. In her Instagram wrap-up for the giant occasion, she wrote, in part:

Then, along with Carpenter complimenting Coldplay’s frontman, one of the band’s fans, Saundra Glenn, took to X to post about how he helped her get to his show. Explaining that Chris Martin picked her up and gave her a ride to the event, she posted:

The 64-year-old woman has osteoarthritis and she was headed to the accessibility box office when a black Mercedes drove up next to her to check that she was alright, the BBC reported. They interviewed the fan, and she explained that she was shocked when she saw Martin in the car. She then said that after they made it to the artists’ section of the festival, the “Yellow” singer made sure she was taken care of:

In the end, Glenn got to see her favorite band play, and she got this amazing lifelong memory. Chris Martin truly sounds like the sweetest guy, and I love that he took the time to make sure she was OK.

All around, there were a bunch of nice things happening at BBC’s Big Weekend, and it was lovely to witness it all. Along with Sabrina Carpenter and Coldplay’s amazing performances, we also got to see moments of kindness and care through these two guys, and that makes me feel lighter than a feather. 

Sure, Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s relationship has been all abuzz during the singer’s massive Eras Tour, but last month it was Swift’s opener, Sabrina Carpenter, who started making headlines with a high-profile boyfriend of her own, Barry Keoghan. So when Keoghan turned up for Carpenter’s first-ever Coachella set on Friday to support her, the internet swooned over one viral moment between the couple. 

While Sabrina Carpenter was on stage performing at Coachella, someone captured a moment in between songs where the singer waved at the Saltburn actor. Barry Keoghan’s reaction was priceless. Take a look: 

In the video, Sabrina Carpenter was sitting down on stage when she locked eyes with Barry Keoghan and flashed a quick peace sign his way before waving. The Oscar nominee, who was wearing a white tank, some cargo shorts and a bandana over his face, had a strong reaction to his girl showing him some attention in front of thousands. These two are definitely making a strong impression on fans as they continue to spend time together, and Keoghan specifically makes a habit of supporting her during her shows. The pop star and actor reportedly met back in September when they both attended Paris Fashion Week before being seen together on multiple occasions. 

Last month, Keoghan and Travis Kelce took a photo together after their gals played the Eras Tour together. The couple have also previously been seen going to both the Grammys afterparty and Oscars afterparty together in recent months. 

After Friday’s concert, Sabrina Carpenter will return to Coachella during its second weekend to play her set once more. While the singer has been opening for Taylor Swift since the summer, she played her last show on the Eras Tour on March 9 in Singapore. Following the release of Swift's next project, The Tortured Poets Department, on April 19, she will pick up the tour on May 9, with Paramore opening for her instead. In August, Gracie Abrams will pick up the honor until the behemoth tour concludes this December. 

Meanwhile, Carpenter will continue playing festivals as she has sets planned for New York City's Governors Ball and Radio 1's Big Weekend in the UK. 

Barry Keoghan on the other hand, most recently starred in Apple TV+’s Masters of the Air with Austin Butler, which is now streaming on the platform, and his movie Bird will be part of the 2024 movie schedule.

The way things are going lately, we won’t be seeing an Irish goodbye in Hollywood. In recent years in particular, more actors from Ireland have become big stars. From Barry Keoghan’s rise to fame with movies like Saltburn, Eternals and The Banshees of Inisherin, to Paul Mescal leading the next Gladiator movie after coming up with Normal People and Aftersun, to Cillian Murphy’s recently being among 2024 Oscar winners for Oppenheimer, there’s a lot of love for Irish actors as of late. Colin Farrell has just weighed in on the recent trend. 

Colin Farrell has been working in Hollywood since the early 2000s after growing up in a suburb in Dublin, Ireland and attending the city’s Gaiety School of Acting before dropping out and starting to rack up acting credits. Here’s what Farrell said about the recent rise in Irish actors: 

While speaking to Entertainment Tonight, Farrell pointed out how amazing it is that the Irish are seemingly taking over Hollywood right now given the country’s size and population. The actor shared a deep pride for the success that has come out of some of the country’s citizens, attributing it to the culture’s love for telling stories. He then spoke specifically about Barry Keoghan, whom he co-starred with not only in the Oscar-nominated 2022 film The Banshees of Inisherin, but also in 2017’s The Killing Of A Sacred Deer: 

The 31-year-old actor also hails from Dublin, Ireland, where he frequented school plays before going to the local Dublin drama school Bow Street Academy. Keoghan’s acting career got an upgrade in 2017 when he starred in both Yorgos Lanthimos’ The Killing of a Sacred Deer and Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk, and his career has only skyrocketed from there, including with his 2023 Oscar nomination for Banshees, his viral role in Saltburn and becoming one of the Eras Tour boyfriends. 

Now we haven’t mentioned some other big Irish names that help underline Farrell’s first point: Liam Neeson, Saorise Ronan, Michael Fassbender, Kenneth Branagh, Domhnall Gleeson, Jamie Dornan and Jessie Buckley all hail from Ireland! 

Colin Farrell’s latest project is a TV show called Sugar, where the actor looks like a noir Bruce Wayne as he plays a private investigator that takes a case after the disappearance of the granddaughter of a Hollywood producer. Farrell will also star once again as Penguin in The Batman spinoff series named after the character, coming to Max sometime this year. The Beatles – A Four-Film Cinematic Event is one of the most ambitious creative projects in the history of Hollywood. While we normally are focused on the more immediate, like the 2026 movie schedule, director Sam Mendes has taken on a challenge so huge that we're talking about it in length, despite being about two years away from the simultaneous release of all four movies. Each movie will focus on an individual member of the band: Paul McCartney, John Lennon, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr.

That’s right, there are four upcoming music biopics about The Beatles, collectively known as The Beatles – A Four-Film Cinematic Event. It’s safe to say that the band's legacy has never waned, and they remain as relevant today as they were in the 1960s. However, there has never been an officially approved film about the iconic rock band until now. And what a way to do it!

The films are being shot simultaneously and cover the same period in the band, from their early days in Liverpool until their breakup in 1970, with the same cast appearing in all four. Each film will be seen from the point of view of an individual Beatle. Over the last couple of years or so, we’ve gotten a lot of information, including who will play most of the important people in the story (including all four Beatles), as casting is pretty much fully fleshed out at this point, at least all the major players (save one - who will play Pete Best??).

Oh, and did we mention that all four movies will be released on the same day in 2028? Let's get into it, because I can't wait to see these movies.

What Is The Release Date?

Understandably, the project is going to take some time. In March of 2025, Variety reported the news that all four movies will hit theaters on April 7th, 2028. That certainly feels like a long way off, but The Beatles – A Four-Film Cinematic Event is a huge undertaking, so it’s hardly a surprise that it will take a while to complete. Production began in November of 2025.

The announcement called it “the first binge-able theatrical experience,” and if you are going to binge it, it's going to be a long day at the movie theater, as all four will be released simultaneously!

Who Are Playing The Beatles And Everyone Else In The Cast?

The cast of The Beatles – A Four-Film Cinematic Event is absolutely stacked. Columbia Pictures has announced the names of most of the important people in The Beatles' orbit, including, of course, the four actors playing John, Paul, George, and Ringo. Plus producer George Martin, manager Brian Epstein, and the women who will be playing their wives. Here's everyone we know, including photos of the actors playing the Fab Four:

Paul Mescal As Paul McCartney

Though all of the Beatles are among the most famous men of the past 100 years, Paul McCartney might just be the most famous. His career has spanned an incredible 65+ years, and even in his 80s, the songwriter shows no sign of slowing down. In fact, McCartney released a new album, his first in six years, in May 2026. In the Mendes Beatles movies, "Macca" will be played by Hamnet star Paul Mescal.

Mescal's breakout role came in 2024's Gladiator II, in which he played Lucius Verus Aurelius. That came after he was nominated for an Oscar for 2022's Aftersun. In January 2026, we even got a sneak peek of Mescal as Macca, as well as a quote from the actor saying he will be doing the singing as Paul.

Harris Dickinson As John Lennon

Harris Dickinson will play the role of the late John Lennon. Lennon, who was shot and killed in 1980, did more to shape the Beatles than anyone else, both for better and for worse, and there is no doubt his story will likely be the most anticipated. Dickinson has been busy lately, working with fellow Beatles movie star Saoirse Ronan in Blitz in 2024, and writing, directing, and starring in Urchin in 2025.

Joseph Quinn As George Harrison

In 2025, Joseph Quinn joined the MCU as Johnny Storm in the well-received Marvel movie The Fantastic Four: First Steps. He'll be reprising the role in 2026's Avengers: Doomsday. Quinn has been tapped to play George Harrison in the Beatles movies. Of all the stories to be told, Harrison's might be the most interesting during his time with the band. Though he was an original member, he often felt apart from the writing team of Lennon and McCartney. It famously led to a fair amount of friction within The Beatles, and watching it play out will likely be a highlight of the four movies.

Barry Keoghan As Ringo Starr

Ringo Starr might not have been the band’s original drummer, but he joined just at the right time. That’s not to take away from his drumming, of course, or his impact on the band. His quirky personality and tasteful drumming were keys to the band’s success. He will be played by Irish actor Barry Keoghan. Keoghan spoke to Collider in March 2026 about the pressure of portraying a Beatle:

Keoghan has quickly become one of the most celebrated actors of the last decade with standout roles in shows like Chernobyl from HBO and Masters Of The Air, which can be seen with an Apple TV subscription, as well as movies like The Banshees of Inisherin, Eternals, Saltburn, and most recently, Crime 101 in 2026.

Anna Sawai As Yoko Ono

Without a doubt, one of the most anticipated casting announcements would be who would play Yoko Ono. We now know that Anna Sawai will be stepping into the role of John Lennon’s second wife and widow. She won an Emmy last September for her amazing performance in 2024’s Shōgun, which you can watch with a Hulu subscription.

Lennon met Ono in 1966, but they wouldn’t start dating until 1968, before marrying in 1969. She was a near-constant presence with the rock star after their marriage. This is one of the stories I'm most interested in, as I, like others, think that Ono got a bad rap for far too long as the "woman who broke up The Beatles," which isn't remotely true. It looks like Sawai agrees, telling Variety:

Ono is the most famous non-band member in The Beatles story, so this should be a major aspect of John's movie, I would think.

Saoirse Ronan As Linda McCartney

Saoirse Ronan is one of the more celebrated actors of the last two decades, earning four Oscar nominations since 2007. Most recently, she can be seen in 2025’s Bad Apples and 2024’s Blitz on Apple TV.

Ronan will be playing Linda McCartney, née Eastman, who married Paul in 1969. Linda, a professional photographer, met Paul in 1967 while she was on assignment, and they began dating shortly after. They remained married until her death from breast cancer in 1998.

Aimee Lou Wood As Pattie Boyd

One of the biggest breakouts in 2025 came from Season 3 of The White Lotus. Aimee Lou Wood is wonderful as Chelsea in the anthology series, and she is, frankly, perfect for the role of Pattie Boyd Harrison, wife of George Harrison. Most recently, Wood has co-created and is starring in the BBC show Film Club. For the role of Pattie, Wood is very aware of what she needs to do to play such a famous public figure, telling The Standard:

George and Pattie met on the set of Hard Day's Night in 1964, where Pattie played one of the two school girls on the train with The Beatles. Like in the movie, she caught the eye of one particular Beatle, and they married in early 1966. Their relationship was a rocky one, and Boyd famously divorced Harrison in 1977 and married Harrison’s best friend, Eric Clapton. Most of that story happened after the Beatles broke up, so we probably won’t see it in the movies.

Mia McKenna-Bruce As Maureen Starkey

Ringo Starr’s most famous (and current) wife is former Bond girl Barbara Bach, but they didn’t marry until 1980, so she likely won’t be part of the story in these movies. In the time period covered by the movies, Starr was married to Liverpool-native Maureen Starkey, née Cox. They married in 1965 and were together until 1975.

Maureen will be played by Mia McKenna-Bruce. McKenna-Bruce had her breakout in 2022’s How to Have Sex and is set to star in the Netflix show The Seven Dials Mystery, based on the book of the same name by Agatha Christie.

James Norton As Brian Epstein

We've also learned from Deadline that The Beatles' legendary manager Brian Epstein, who died in 1967 at the height of Beatlemania, will be portrayed by James Norton. Norton recently starred in House of Guinness, one of the best shows on Netflix in 2025.

Norton is no stranger to playing record industry legends. The actor played Island Records founder Chris Blackwell in the biopic Bob Marley: One Love in 2024. Norton is also in Season 3 of House Of The Dragon as Ormond Hightower.

Harry Lloyd As George Martin

Game of Thrones veteran Harry Lloyd, who played the ill-fated Viserys Targaryen in the HBO series, will play famed Beatles producer George Martin. One of the many men sometimes referred to as "the fifth Beatle," Martin was crucial to the band's legendary albums. There's no question he'll play a prominent role in all four films.

The rest of the cast, including some of the Beatles' family members, and other important people in their career, have also been cast:

• Adam Pally as Allen Klein
• David Morrissey as Jim McCartney, Paul's father

• Adam Pally as Allen Klein, the band's manager in their later years
• Lucy Boynton as Jane Asher
• Farhan Akhtar as Ravi Shankar
• Morfydd Clark as Cynthia Lennon, John's first wife
• Harry Lawtey as Stuart Sutcliffe, The Beatles' original bass player

Some of the musicians who worked with The Beatles will hopefully make appearances, like keyboardist Billy Preston. He worked with the band extensively in their final recording sessions and can be seen with a Disney+ subscription in the amazing docuseries The Beatles: Get Back from director Peter Jackson. Eric Clapton, who played the guitar solo on “While My Guitar Gently Weeps,” and was good friends with George Harrison (and later married Pattie Boyd, after she divorced Harrison), could also pop up.

Of course, we haven't seen an actor attached to the role of the band's drummer before Ringo, Pete Best, either, but as Stu Sutcliffe has been cast, I assume Best will appear too.

There Will Be 4 Movies, One For Each Beatle

Rather than cover The Beatles across one biopic, this project is dedicating four feature films to these musical icons. As an added twist, each movie will focus on a different band member’s point of view, with all of the stories being “interconnected.” So although we’ll see Paul, John, George, and Ringo in all of these movies, each one will see one of the men taking center stage while the others occupy supporting positions.

As such, it’s reasonable to assume that, along with certain events being re-explored in each of these movies from different perspectives, there will also be opportunities to go down narrative paths that only involve the central Beatle, depending on the movie.

The Story Will End With Their 1970 Breakup

Paul McCartney, John Lennon, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr continued to produce music for their solo careers well after the Beatles dissolved, but it sounds like that won’t be explored in any of these upcoming movies. Per an official press release (via Variety), the Beatles' movies will wrap up with their breakup in 1970.

It’s possible that in the midst of each Beatles’ narrative being covered, there will be post-1970 flash forwards to show where these men ended up in life, but since these movies are specifically centered around the band when they were together, it’s doubtful a lot of screen time will be dedicated to what has happened after the breakup, or a lot about their solo careers.

Sam Mendes Is Directing All Four Movies

With a resume that includes American Beauty, Road to Perdition, Skyfall, Spectre, and 1917, it’s safe to say that Sam Mendes remains one of Hollywood’s most talented directors. Still, the prospect of directing four movies like this back-to-back-to-back-to-back would surely be daunting for any filmmaker. And yet, Mendes has taken it upon himself to helm and produce all four of them, though that’s not surprising since, per the Deadline story, he “conceived this grand vision.”

There Will Be Three Screenwriters

In May 2025, we found out that the four films would be written by three screenwriters. It’s a group of heavyweights, too. Per Variety, Tony Award-winner Jez Butterworth, who worked with Mendes on the James Bond film Spectre, will work alongside Peter Straughan, who just won an Oscar for his script for Conclave, and Jack Thorne, who took home an Emmy for his amazing work on Adolescence, which you can check out with a Netflix subscription.

These Are The First Official Biopics About The Beatles Ever Made

The Beatles are no strangers to cinema. Not only did Paul, John, Ringo, and George star in the movies A Hard Day’s Night, Help!, and Magical Mystery Tour, but they also provided the music (but not their voices) to the animated Yellow Submarine. There have also been several documentaries, and their music has been prominently featured in movies like Across the Universe and Yesterday (with the latter being possible thanks to a deal between Working Title Films and Apple and Sony). They even once tried to get their own Lord of the Rings adaptation off the ground.

However, Sam Mendes’ Beatles movies are the first time that scripted cinematic stories about these men have been approved by Paul and Ringo, as well as the estates of John and George. The full life stories and music rights of all four band members have been granted by those individuals and Apple Corps Ltd., the corporation that manages The Beatles’ music and various other media ventures.

There have been plenty of unauthorized versions of The Beatles on screen, with varying success, but none of those had the full backing of the band members and their surviving families, as these do. That means we’ll get lots of The Beatles’ music in the films, which is great, but it is fair to worry if the films will be too sanitized and leave out some of the more controversial moments of the band’s career, like the death of early band member Stu Sutcliffe, for example.

Given the success of music biopics from recent years like Bohemian Rhapsody, Elvis, A Complete Unknown, and the most recent Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere, making a movie about The Beatles seems like it would be a no-brainer, but releasing four movies about them at once could lead to this becoming the cinematic event of 2028.

The same can be said for Kelce, he’s won three Super Bowls, and his skills, celebration dances and interview moments have been the topic of conversation among football fans for years. However, when you are linked to Taylor Swift, the amount of interest is just different. So, obviously, the reactions to this photo of them together were fantastic as the Swifties took to social media to share their thoughts, like @hotmessjunk did when they reposted the photo with this funny caption:

Barry Keoghan and the former Girl Meets World actress went public with their romance in February, after they were seen packing on the PDA at a Grammys afterparty, Elle reports, though it seems the two first crossed paths back in September. Many fans seemed to think the actor’s trip overseas signaled that the two are serious, and Eras Tour concertgoers caught the actor looking positively smitten as Sabrina Carpenter crooned the NSFW outro to “Nonsense,” which you can see below: 

Sabrina Carpenter changes up the lyrics to the “Nonsense” outro at each stop on the tour, keeping fans on their toes much in the same way that Taylor Swift plays different surprise songs on the Eras Tour and chooses a different fan each night to receive the “22” hat. Barry Keoghan couldn’t keep the smile off his face, and after that viral Saltburn bathtub scene, I’d think it would take more than a few risque lyrics to make him blush like that.

The actor who portrayed The Joker in The Batman has seen his sex symbol status rise since his appearance in Saltburn (which can be streamed with an Amazon Prime subscription), and Swifties were certainly excited to draw him into their Eras Tour traditions, as they did with Travis Kelce before. One fan posted:

I’m not sure how much interaction the guys have actually had with each other, but Sabrina Carpenter was in the suite with Taylor Swift to watch the Kansas City Chiefs when they played the New York Jets — aka the night Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman were ignored by the NFL broadcasters — so the “Feather” singer has likely gotten to meet Kelce.

The movie went viral for a number of scenes, including Keoghan's naked dance scene at the end to "Murder on the Dancefloor." Now the 31 year-old actor has once again dropped trou for a new cover, and fans have so many funny takes.

There's been at on of chatter about Barry Keoghan lately, and the wild antics his character participated in throughout the movie's runtime. Saltburn's bathtub scene is perhaps the most infamous, but there was also that wild grave masturbation scene and (of course) the naked dance finale... including full frontal from the actor. This clip quickly went viral, especially the Keoghan nudity of it all. While this no doubt helped to get more eyes on the Vanity Fair cover, the responses to him going nude so soon after Saltburn were pretty hilarious. Although some find Keoghan to be a sex symbol, others hilarious poked fun at his nude pose. As one person tweeted: 

Well, I can't unsee that now. The look Keoghan gives to camera does actually resemble the Pixar lamp, and now I'm going to be thinking about the connection between those two for the foreseeable future. 

It certainly seems like Barry Keoghan is comfortable in his own skin, and willing to go naked when the role goes for it. Not only was he naked during the Saltburn dance, but he showed full frontal throughout that sequence. Another tweet poked fun at his penchant for nudity, sharing:

A wise Rugrat once said "Nakie is good, Nakie is free, Nakie is... Nakie!", and it looks like Keoghan has taken that message to heart as of late. We'll just have to see if he once again bares it all for an upcoming movie.

While there are plenty of folks who are thirsting for Keoghan as of late, others are less impressed-- particularly since they've already seen it all in Saltburn. As another tweet reads:

Smart money says this clip of Keoghan will be watched over and over again, considering how many folks have been thirsting for him in the wake of Saltburn's streaming release. Although the funny responses make it all worth it.

Emerald Fennell’s new movie Saltburn has generated a lot of talk due to its shocking sexual content. Most notable is the film’s conclusion, when Barry Keoghan’s character struts a celebratory dance completely in the nude. After a reporter conducted an awkward interview with All of Us Strangers actor Andrew Scott about the Saltburn nude scenes, footage of that cringe moment has gone viral with over six million views.

The scene of Barry Keoghan dancing naked throughout the Saltburn Mansion seems to be the butt of every joke (pardon the pun). Even Jo Koy’s Golden Globes opening monologue had a Saltburn joke about the Irish actor’s penis. At the BAFTAs red carpet, an X user posted a cringe video of a BBC News reporter asking Irish actor Andrew Scott his reaction to seeing Keoghan’s nude scenes in the black comedy film. Here’s how he awkwardly responded:

With so much attention directed towards Saltburn’s nude scenes, you’d think people forgot what the movie was even about. The BBC News reporter didn’t stop at that awkward question, as another followed when he asked the Fleabag actor about the rumors of prosthetics being used on the nude Barry Keoghan. The Black Mirror actor responded by politely walking away. I can’t say I blame him, as Saltburn wasn’t Scott’s movie and there’s no reason why he should have a say on that subject.

The viral X video clearly got a kick out of social media users, as it currently has 6.1 million views and 17k likes on it. Many comments used the words “cringeworthy,” “creepy,” and “dreadful” to describe what they saw. Although, they did commend Scott for walking away when he could sense the interview was going nowhere.

The famous Saltburn scene that everyone keeps talking about is when Oliver celebrates successfully conning his way into the Saltburn mansion by dancing a nude jig around the luxurious property. Director Emerald Fennell explained the naked dance scene as the cunning character marking his territory and leaving audiences wondering if they should be happy over what the main character accomplished. And no, Barry Keoghan did not use a body double for those scenes. 

If anything, the challenging part for the Dunkirk actor was having to come out of his shell to dance. The original plan was just for him to walk around the house, but Fennell felt his dancing would give the film’s conclusion a feeling of “triumph and joy.” The BAFTA-nominated film’s most memorable scene ended up being an obsession with the internet and giving Keoghan a rising sex symbol status.

With that cringe post of awkward interview questions about Saltburn’s nude scenes being viewed over six million times, it proves that fans are getting tired of that one scene getting so much attention. It looks like Andrew Scott handled the interview professionally in answering as best as he could in an already uncomfortable situation. Director Emerald Fennell had great success with her movie Promising Young Woman, and her most recent release Saltburn went viral, especially once it was streaming with an Amazon Prime subscription. Perhaps the most talked about movie was Barry Keoghan's bathtub scene, where he drank the bath water of Jacob Elordi's character Felix after he'd masturbated in the tub. Fennell recently directed Keoghan for a cover shoot, where he made a funny clip when asked to one again shoot with a bath tub, albeit with a twist.

Keoghan recently did the cover for W Magazine, which included some very striking images including the Eternals actor in a bloody bath tub. He also did an interview to accompany the story, where he revealed his funny reaction to being asked to once again shoot in a bath. As he put it:

Points were made. While he's joking here, it shows how much fun Keoghan and Fennell have while working together. Although I have to say there is one thing worse than wet underwear: wet jeans. 

Barry Keoghan has defended Saltburn's bath scene, with that sequence being a big reason why so many people got their eyes on the movie once it was available to stream. And given how much chatter has surrounded that infamous scene, it makes sense that Fennell might want to put a spin on it when directing the shoot for W Magazine. 

In the end, the 31 year-old actor did lots of wild things while filming his role in Saltburn. That includes Keoghan's grave masturbation scene, and (of course) doing full frontal nudity while dancing in the final scene. So getting into a bloody bath tub probably isn't that much of an ask.

Later in his same interview, Barry Keoghan explained his reaction when Emerald Fennell asked him to get into that bloody tub for the photo shoot. In his words:

How sweet is that? The pair seem to have excellent chemistry, and it should be interesting to see if they work together again in the future. Given the pop culture impact of both Promising Young Woman and Saltburn, the public will definitely be invested in whatever else Emerald Fennell has up her sleeve for her next directorial adventure. And her role as Midge in the wildly popular Barbie movie likely only helped increase the public's excitement over Fennell as a whole.

To say that Emerald Fennell’s black comedy Saltburn had memorable scenes would be an understatement. The internet’s obsession and all of those memes had to do with the Golden Globe-nominated film’s most outrageous moments all involving Barry Keoghan’s character baring all. With one of the film’s most controversial scenes featuring Oliver doing a nude dance, the Irish actor dishes on his rising sex symbol status.

At the end of Saltburn, when Oliver celebrates snagging the Saltburn estate and his friend’s family fortune, he struts his stuff completely naked to Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s “Murder on the Dancefloor” from one end of the property to the other. After this nude scene, you better believe people will look at Barry Keoghan in a completely different way. The Dunkirk actor told ET how he felt about his newfound status as a sex symbol:

But from receiving Oscar nominations for his deep performance in The Banshees of Inisherin to getting Golden Globe nominations for Saltburn, Barry Keoghan’s acting career is sure to give him more opportunities to expand his range. Like the Fair City actor told GQ, another benefit to his new image is “not just being looked at as the weird-looking guy, the unique feckin’ freaky little freak man-child” 

When it came to making Barry Keoghan’s naked dance scene, director Emerald Fennell’s goal was to make the film’s conclusion filled with “triumph” mixed with “evil glee.” She also couldn’t help but make this scene twisted in wanting to make audiences laugh when they shouldn’t. Considering Oliver was able to get what he wanted through deception and murder, you definitely feel conflicted between being on the main character’s side or being turned off by his actions. But the Promising Young Woman director said Oliver being nude while doing that celebratory dance was necessary to show he could do whatever he wanted in his new estate.

The Batman actor didn’t even need a nude double to take on those scenes. If anything, the most difficult thing about shooting that final sequence was having to dance! Keoghan didn’t describe himself as much of a dancer having to move his body in a way he wasn’t used to, but once he nailed that, the young actor felt the rest came easy for him. As Keoghan told ET, though, you won't be seeing him taking on any hip-shaking Elvis roles in the future.

After befriending the handsome Felix Catton, he’s invited to spend the summer at his family’s manor of Saltburn. But could there be a darker motive for Oliver’s infatuation with Felix?

Well - *spoiler alert* - yes. The film’s audacious coda finds Keoghan dancing starkers through his newly inherited home of Saltburn as “Murder on the Dancefloor” plays – a wickedly bravura moment filmed in one eyebrow-raising long-take. Explaining the significance of his character’s nude revelry, Keoghan explained to EW: 

Emma Thompson (Good Luck To You, Leo Grande) 

Joining the growing ranks of actors who were fully nude for a movie, Emma Thompson bared all as former teacher Nancy Stokes in the 2022 comedy-drama, Good Luck To You, Leo Grande. Having never experienced pleasurable sex and ashamed of her body, Nancy hires the handsome Leo Grande to action a kinky itinerary on which the missionary position is just a stopover on the way to Climaxistan.

Lawrence plays 32-year-old Uber driver Maddie Barker. Threatened with bankruptcy after her car is repossessed, she finds work wooing the socially awkward son of two rich parents in exchange for a Buick Regal.

J-Law’s nude beach scene is the highlight of this R-rated comedy. As Maddie tries to seduce Percy by taking him skinny-dipping, their clothes are stolen by a group of obnoxious teens. Without thinking, Maddie storms out of the water, whooping their asses as the Hall & Oates’ song “Maneater” plays. Lawrence – who turned down a body double – approaches the scene with gutsy aplomb, hilariously conveying Maddie’s brash, devil-may-care character.

Scarlett Johansson (Under the Skin)

Known briefly as “Scarlett Johansson’s nude movie,” the actress was breaking into Marvel territory when she accepted a distinctively different role in Jonathan Glazer’s 2013 masterpiece. She’s barely recognizable as a female-presenting extraterrestrial, who stalks the Scottish highlands to kidnap and harvest unsuspecting male prey.

Johansson’s big reveal comes three-quarters of the way through the film. Lit only by the red glow of an electric heater, and observing her limbs in a vertical mirror, flickers of cognition animate her otherwise impassive face to suggest a burgeoning consciousness. Gradually identifying with this human form, the otherworldly being interrogates the curve of her neck, the mechanics of a knee, and the undulations of bone beneath skin.

Gary Cole (Blockers) 

When three young women plan to lose their virginity on prom night, their overprotective parents do everything to stop them. But it’s the adults that get into the most trouble in Blockers, the 2018 comedy from Kay Cannon.

With Ron (Gary Cole) withholding the adolescents' whereabouts, Mitchell breaks into his house to find the texts confirming their location. But to do so he has to evade Ron and his wife as they play a sex game blindfolded. Cannon amusingly parodies the velociraptor scene from Jurassic Park as Ron stalks through the kitchen towards a cowering Mitchell, before he lurches into shot and flashes audiences worldwide an eyeful of his… meat and two veg.

It's a hilariously orchestrated scene, that, thanks to Gary Cole’s game performance, helps level the playing field between male and female nudity onscreen: promoting what Fandom catchily dubbed #Ballsforboobs.

Daniel Craig (Love Is The Devil) 

Daniel Craig made waves exiting the Atlantic like a chiselled Adonis in Casino Royale. But he’d already bared it all in the 1998 biopic Love is the Devil, in which Craig portrays George Dyer, the lover and muse of painter Francis Bacon whose volatile relationship ends in tragedy.

During a scene of strained intimacy, there’s a prolonged shot of Craig’s 007. Taking a soak in the tub, Dyer anxiously asks if he’s still invited to Bacon’s Paris exhibition. “Of course you’re coming. You are the exhibition” the artist retorts. Then the film cuts to an aerial shot of Craig – and there’s no mound of bubbles to obscure his manhood. It’s a moment that foregrounds the film’s queer gaze, echoing the artist’s infatuation towards his troubled muse.

Benedict Cumberbatch (The Power Of The Dog) 

Director Jane Campion is known for her poetic treatment of the male nude. And for this acclaimed, 2021 drama, she turned her camera towards Benedict Cumberbatch as the gruff Montana cowboy Phil Burbank. The Power of the Dog is still one of the best movies on Netflix, garnering 11 Oscar nominations.

Brimming with toxic masculinity, Burbank relentlessly torments his brother’s wife and her teenage son. But, away from the ranch, Phil embraces moments of sensual pleasure. Ensconced in nature, we watch him find peace with himself and his desires as he cakes his entire body in mud before plunging headlong into the water. Making her reputation for being one of those actors who went fully nude in a movie, Maggie Gyllenhaal broke into the Hollywood limelight with her acclaimed performance in 2003’s kinky rom-com Secretary.

As Lee Holloway, her character finds personal transformation through a BDSM relationship with boss Edward Grey. And the ultimate expression of her fidelity is when she sits stock still for three whole days until he eventually returns.

Taken with her obedience, her dom partner tends to Lee with complete devotion. Gyllenhaal’s subsequent nudity in these final scenes reflects her character’s awakened physical and emotional openness. As the camera pans out from her face, she narrates how he traced every inch of her body while she divulged the history of each of her self-harm scars. It’s a moment of awestruck intimacy, as Lee experiences being seen and accepted in both body and soul.

Sacha Baron Cohen (Borat)

It’s one of the most daring scenes in cinema history: Kazakh reporter Borat and his producer Azamat engaging in a balls-out brawl that erupts out of their San Diego hotel room and into a packed mortgage conference. This 2006 black comedy has no shortage of provocations, but what makes this scene work so well is Sacha Baron Cohen’s willingness to push things to their extremes. It’s a wildly chaotic two minutes as Borat ruts against his producer’s ample behind while throttling him, before the 250lb Azamat tries to asphyxiate Borat between his butt cheeks. It’s shockingly funny as personal boundaries and rules of public decorum are blithely transgressed, and the chaotic scene ends when the naked duo are apprehended by hotel security.

Matt Reeves’ The Batman introduced comic book fans to varied takes on some of the key elements of the Caped Cruasder’s mythos. That includes a grimier version of the Joker, who was played by Barry Keoghan in the 2022 film. The talented actor really caught viewers’ attention with his work, even though his presence in the film was minimal. Since then, Keoghan has fielded questions about the role and whether he’ll reprise it in upcoming DC movies. More recently though, he explained the makeup process for the character, and it sounds grueling, especially considering just how small his role was. 

There are a lot of actors who’ve had to endure extensive makeup applications for roles. That’s especially true when it comes to a blockbuster like Matt Reeves’ superhero epic. For instance, a lot of work went into making Colin Farrell into Oswald Cobblepot a.k.a. The Penguin. When speaking to CinemaBlend, Farrell admitted that he was “giddy” about getting to disappear into such a role. Barry Keoghan didn’t complain when speaking about his own transformation into the Clown Prince of Crime, though it sounds like it was a bit rough on him: 

In the theatrical cut of The Batman, Joker only appears during a brief scene that takes place in Arkham Asylum, during which he befriends Paul Dano’s Edward Nashton (The Riddler). A subsequently released deleted scene later showed the Dark Knight visiting the deranged clown at the facility in order to get his perspective on (the then-yet-to-be-captured) Nashton. Keeping in mind just how brief the Banshees of Inisherin star’s role is, six hours is indeed a lot of time to commit to makeup. Obviously, the actor was being paid, but that prospect probably doesn’t make the process much easier. 

What complicated the situation even more though is that the production was plagued with its share of starts and stops due to the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic several years ago. Barry Keoghan went on to speak about the health crisis’ effect on the film shoot while breaking down his supervillain role for GQ in a YouTube video. He specifically recalled the moment he learned that work was going to be halted:

That metal component doesn’t seem to have left a mark on the star’s face but, there now may be a chance that he’ll have to wear it again at some point. It’s widely known that The Batman – Part II (which we have some intel on) is on the way. When asked about the sequel, Barry Keoghan, who sent in an audition tape for the Riddler, admitted to being unsure whether he’d be back. However, he did indicate that he has big plans for Joker should Matt Reeves and co. give him a call. I’m hopeful that Keoghan does get to play the role again – and that the makeup process gets a bit easier for him the next time around.

In 1940, one year after Batman debuted in the pages of Detective Comics #27, a clownish-looking villain named The Joker came to Gotham City to wreak havoc in Batman #1. It didn’t take long for him to become the Dark Knight’s arch-nemesis in the comic book pages, to the point that all these decades later, Joker is arguably just as well known as Batman himself. With that fame, of course, has come numerous adaptations of the Clown Prince of Crime, most prominently on the big screen.

To that point, we’re here to rank all the major movie portrayals of The Joker. And to be clear, this list will only be discussing live-action and animated versions of the character who’ve appeared in DC movies that had theatrical runs. There’s a lot more to keep track of if we count the numerous direct-to-video DC movies that have been released, but keeping our scope narrowed to big screen offerings keeps things at a more manageable level.

8. Barry Keoghan

The only reason Barry Keoghan’s Joker ranks in last place on this list is because we’ve barely seen him. He’s only heard and indirectly shown for roughly a minute within the finalized cut of The Batman, and then there was the deleted scene between the villain and Robert Pattinson’s Caped Crusader released shortly after the movie. 

Still, all we know so far about this version of the Clown Prince of Crime is that he’s heavily disfigured, and that he and Batman tangled sometime prior to The Riddler’s reign of terror. No doubt Keoghan’s ranking on this list will be higher if he plays a prominent role in The Batman: Part II, but for now, there just isn’t material to work with and make a proper judgement.

7. Jared Leto

Suicide Squad marked the first time Joker appeared in a movie that didn’t revolve around him fighting Batman, and that was for the best. The execution for the Clown Prince of Crime didn’t work, from the strange choices with his physical appearance (especially that “Damaged” forehead tattoo), to him barely contributing to the story in any notable way, to Jared Leto’s performance not feeling intimidating in the slightest. 

It’s almost as if the actor was trying too hard to play the character weirdly, which he continued to do during his few minutes of screen time in Zack Snyder’s Justice League. Let’s breathe a sigh of relief that the Leto-led Joker movie never happened, and that with the DCEU now over, we’ll almost certainly never see him again.

6. Zach Galifianakis

There’s nothing particularly wrong with Zach Galifianakis’ Joker, it’s just that he feels more like a standard baddie in The LEGO Batman Movie rather than one giving off the vibes of Batman’s arch-nemesis. For one thing, this spinoff to The LEGO Movie was, like its predecessor, comedic and chiefly geared towards children, so this Joker was presented as more clownish and goofy rather than sinister and terrifying. 

There’s nothing wrong with that, as it clearly worked for the story being told about Joker enacting his biggest plan yet after learning that Batman didn’t see him as an important villain in his life. But when held up against the other portrayals on this list, Galifianakis’ Joker comes across as generic.

5. Cesar Romero

Like another version of The Joker on this list, Cesar Romero primarily portrayed the character on television, namely the live-action Batman TV series that ran from 1966 to 1968. But shortly after Season 1 aired, Batman: The Movie hit theaters, and as such Romero qualifies for the rankings. 

This movie saw Joker teaming up with Penguin, Riddler and Catwoman, and just like the TV show, it leaned heavily into the campy tone. So, while this Joker will appeal more towards people who like the Silver Age of Comics and don’t mind him being more playful rather than a frightening threat, as far as performing this version of the character went, Romero continued to knock it out of the park.

4. Joaquin Phoenix

In 2019, Joker showed audiences how the Clown Prince of Crime’s origin story would unfold if Batman wasn’t around. Joaquin Phoenix’s Arthur Fleck was depicted as a party clown and failed stand-up comic suffering from mental illness, and a few too many traumatizing events led to his descent into madness and adopting his clown-like criminal persona. 

There’s no question that Phoenix gave a stellar performance, as evidenced by him winning the Academy Award for Best Actor. However, since this is a Joker who’s about as far from his comic book roots as possible, it’s hard to put him above the final three men on this list. Still, there are plenty of people looking forward to seeing more from him in the 2024 movie release, Joker: Folie à Deux.

3. Jack Nicholson

More than 20 years after Caesar Romero hammed it up as Joker on the Batman TV series, Jack Nicholson put a more unsettling twist on the character in Tim Burton’s Batman. Although this version of Joker’s original identity was known from the start rather than kept shrouded in secrecy as is usually the case, knowing that he started out as gangster Jack Napier, who murdered Bruce Wayne’s parents, didn’t detract from watching him become a theatrical lunatic after falling into that vat of chemicals during his first encounter with Batman. 

Granted, there are times where it feels like Nicholson is just playing a more unhinged version of himself, but overall, his performance still holds up quite nicely after all this time.

2. Mark Hamill

As with Caesar Romero, Mark Hamill’s exploits as The Joker are chiefly known from TV, specifically the DC Animated Universe incarnation of the character he voiced in Batman: The Animated Series, The New Batman Adventures and other projects. But because Batman: Mask of the Phantasm shifted from a direct-to-video release to a theatrical one, we can thankfully mention him on this list. 

Not only did Hamill bring the same delightful blend of comedy and terror that he did on the small screen, but because this movie didn’t have to deal with the same broadcast TV restrictions, his Joker was finally able to kill and drop some more suggestive lines. Even just judging Hamill’s Joker within the lens of only this movie, he’s more than earned ranking in second place. It’s also a reminder about what a shame it is he’ll never voice Joker again.

1. Heath Ledger

Anyone who followed along with the news cycle surrounding The Dark Knight’s production will remember that many were skeptical Heath Ledger would deliver a compelling Joker performance, especially once it was revealed this version of the character would look much different than how he’s usually depicted. Well, not only did Ledger prove the doubters wrong, he’s still considered by many to be the definitive cinematic Joker, and he went on to posthumously win the Best Supporting Actor Oscar. 

Granted, this version of the villain didn’t drop a ton of actual jokes, but watching him envelop Gotham City in chaos and try to prove that no one is incorruptible not only earns him the #1 spot on this list, but makes him one of cinema’s most iconic villains across all genres.

There will be more actors who play Joker on the big screen in the years to come, and once we see their performances, come back here to see where they rank amongst their cohorts. Emerald Fennell's scandalous satire Saltburn has had people talking ever since it hit theaters back in November 2023. (The film arrived on streaming just in time for Christmas and you can now watch it at home with an Amazon Prime subscription.) 

From that Saltburn's iconic bathtub scene to that graveyard grind session and that shocking ending (more on that in a bit!), the psychological thriller starring Barry Keoghan and Jacob Elordi captured much attention and garnered many headlines for its provocative plot points. 

One such scene is, of course, the now-famous nude dance that Koeghan's Oliver Quick—an Oxford University student who becomes obsessed with a fellow pupil, Felix Catton (Elordi), and comes to stay with him and his aristocratic family at their sprawling estate for the summer—performs at the film's end, after he's taken down the whole Catton clan and christened himself the master of Saltburn mansion. Fennell discussed Oliver's unclothed jig (and, no, that was no body double for Keoghan) during a recent interview with TheWrap:

The director continued by saying that the "complicated feelings" that the audience has for the character of Oliver and his very questionable actions are the direct result of "Barry's beautiful work" in the film. (The Dublin-born actor recently scored a 2024 Golden Globe nomination in the Best Actor category for Saltburn, but lost to fellow Irishman Cillian Murphy for Oppenheimer.)

Fennell directed the similarly controversial Promising Young Woman—in which Carrie Mulligan stars as said woman who avenges the assault of her best friend by righting the wrongs of crooked men—so the actress-filmmaker is no stranger to stirring up a little scandal. She tells TheWrap that she welcomes audience reactions to her films, whether they're positive or otherwise: 

Scandalous or not, Fennell's flick is a hit both with viewers—enough folks tuned into Keoghan's naked dance that Saltburn was one of Prime Video's top 10 worldwide film debuts, per Deadline—and critics. The movie is up for Best Picture, Best Cinematography and Best Production Design at this Sunday's Critics Choice Awards.

Awards Season is officially upon us, with the Golden Globe winners taking home trophies for TV and film content. Emerald Fennell's dark comedy Saltburn got a few noms, and has been dominating pop culture since it became available to stream with an Amazon Prime subscription. A large reason for this ongoing discourse is Saltburn's wild bathtub scene, which had been made into countless memes. Barry Keoghan recently defended his character's actions in that sequence, saying "you can't judge."

Around halfway through Salbturn, Keoghan's character Oliver watched Jacob Elordi's Felix masturbate in their shared bathtub. After Felix leaves Oliver lowers himself into the tub, and laps up/drinks the water. There's been a ton of chatter about this sequence, and the Eternals actor opened up to GQ about how he wrapped his head around teh scene, saying:

There you have it. Part of an actor's job is to justify their character's actions, even when playing a villain. Saltburn's bathtub scene is pretty disturbing, and shows Oliver's growing obsession with Felix. But you have to admit that it created a seismic shift in the movie; things only got more wild from there.

Keoghan's comments to GQ help to peel back the curtain on what it was like actually filming Saltburn, and all of its wild scenes. The bathtub sequence ended up being just the tip of the iceberg, as Oliver's scene at Felix's masturbation grave is arguably more disturbed. 

Keoghan's job portraying Oliver was no doubt made more complicated given the movie's twist ending. In its final moments, it's revealed that the death of Felix and his family was all orchestrated by Barry Keoghan's protagonist, who was obsessed with Jacob Elordi's character from the jump. In the end he finds a way to manipulate his way into inheriting the titular mansion, ending with Keoghan dancing naked to the song "Murder on the Dance Floor" (which has become super popular since the movie's release).

Only time will tell how many more nominations and/or wins Saltburn will have throughout the course of Awards Season, but Emerald Fennell's movie has definitely found a way to pierce the pop culture zeitgeist in a major way. So Keoghan will likely be answering questions about that bathtub sequence for the foreseeable future.

Plenty of cinephiles are watching new movies currently, thanks to releases in theaters for the holiday weekend as well as projects that have finally arrived on streaming. Emerald Fennell's Saltburn is in the latter category, with the wild dark comedy now available with an Amazon Prime subscription. For her part, Fennell trolled fans about its streaming release, joking that it was a perfect holiday movie for the whole family. Actor Barry Kegohan shared his true reaction to Saltburn's viral bathroom water scene, and why he had no problem filming it. Although he was quoted saying "yeah it's disgusting." I mean, was he wrong?

What we knew about Saltburn before its release was limited, and the movie packed plenty of wild twists-- especially related to Keoghan's character Oliver Quick and his obsession with Jacob Elordi's Felix. Specifically Keoghan masturbating on a grave and also drinking the bath water that Felix had masturbated into. The actor spoke to Variety about bringing the latter sequence to life, sharing his perspective of the tub heard and seen around the world. As he put it,

Fair point. Saltburn follows as Oliver's obsession with Felix increases, with things eventually turning both unsettling and violent. When he sees Elordi's character masturbating into their shared tub, he eventually stays behind and laps up the water, in what is perhaps the most iconic scene of the entire movie. It's both cringe and fascinating, and Keoghan definitely thought about his approach to the scene.

Reception for the movie has been positive, with CinemaBlend's Saltburn review claiming it was one of the best movies of the year. This is at least partly thanks to some of its more shocking sequences and plot twists. Later in that same interview, Keoghan got into the weeds of how/why he lapped up the bath water, offering:

Now that is some methodical acting. While some actors might simply want to get the scene over with, Barry Keoghan wanted the bathtub sequence to show the different sides of Oliver's obsession with Felix. In addition to the sexual nature of his act, there's also both tenderness and confusion involved.

Of course, Keoghan would end up doing a number of seemingly daunting tasks throughout the movie's runtime. That includes his naked Saltburn dance sequence, which included full frontal. While speaking with Variety, he revealed how the bath scene wasn't originally in the script, as he put it:

Looks like both he and Fennell understood what a vulnerable place Keoghan would be in for the bath scene, which is why she closed the set. And in the end this sequence would really get people talking, and interested to see the lunacy that was Saltburn. Clearly the special care taken for the movie's contents paid off.

Emerald Fennell's latest twisted thriller Saltburn has become one of the most highly-discussed 2023 movie releases. The flick is generating a ton of buzz for its standout -- and NSFW -- scenes. One involves Barry Keoghan running nude through the titular mansion. Another notable moment involves the actor engaging in a provocative masturbation at a gravesite. In a recent red carpet interview, the Dunkirk star explained how the controversial scene game together. 

The rising star candidly discussed the gripping performance to Variety at the film’s Los Angeles premiere. The sequence, poised to be one of the most controversial, was a bold creative collaboration by Keoghan on the day of shooting. As the actor told it, the moment came out of an idea he had about the character.

The gravesite moment isn’t the only one where one of the actors gets handy with themselves. Another key sequence depicts The Banshees of Inisherin alum watching his onscreen pal Felix (played by Jacob Elordi) commence a solo act in a bathtub, followed by a unique twist. Keoghan is seen licking up Elordi's semen around the tub's drain. If the idea of the scene makes your stomach turn, you’re not alone. 

According to the movie director, the bathtub scene is “sexy,” but CinemaBlend’s own Jessica Rawden has seen the flick and has no idea what she’s talking about. This sexually explicit movie moment had early screening viewers walking out of screenings, which I can’t honestly blame them for, but it does sound like the sort of response the filmmaker was going for.

Emerald Fennell, the brilliant mind behind Promising Young Woman, said she is only interested in making movies that get under viewers' skin. She told the outlet in the same red carpet interview: 

Although the film wasn't explicitly created to entice, it's undoubtedly NSFW. When it lands on Amazon Prime on December 22, remember it is not a flick you’ll want to use your Amazon Prime subscription to view with your family over the holidays. Still, given that Fennell is one of the few directors to make a banger with their first movie, it's poised to be one of Amazon's best movies, and you’ll likely not want to miss it.

Saltburn has been one of the most talked about 2023 movie releases, and there are several scenes that have really stood out in the conversation. One of these is Jacob Elordi and Barry Keoghan’s big bathtub scene. Another features Keoghan's character Oliver Quick masturbating on top of a grave. The final scene features the same character dancing his way through the large estate completely in the nude. If you’ve been wondering if the actor actually dropped trou to complete the scene – which also features a dancing montage – wonder no longer. Like Jennifer Lawrence's nude scene in No Hard Feelings, that’s 100% him in the film. 

Actually, it wasn’t even the nudity in the scene that was the hardest part for Keoghan, it was another portion of the scene entirely.

Director Emerald Fennell Says The Nude Scene Was In Saltburn From The First Draft

Well before Saltburn hit the 2023 movies schedule, Emerald Fennell was thinking about how she would close out her latest film. While certain moments in her movie may have occurred thanks to suggestions from the actors about their characters, the viral ending of the film was always there from the first draft. In fact, Fennell told Polygon the scene was so important to her vision of the movie from very early on.

The moment is also nodded at earlier in the movie when Felix, Venetia and Farleigh all lose their clothing for some suntanning in a field and tell Oliver it’s house rules he must too. They are surprised when the seemingly shy and quiet character has more to assets to offer than they anticipated, foreshadowing what the audience sees in the final scene. The second time he drops trou, he’s alone, having chosen Saltburn itself over any people and relationships.

The final scene is also a callback to Oliver’s arrival at the estate, when Felix eagerly shows him myriad rooms that make up the whole. Fennell says she deliberately set the final scene up to be the exact opposite of Felix’s walkthrough, with Oliver taking the opposite path through the house that his former pal did. Throwing nudity into that scene was also a deliberate choice.

Which doesn’t necessarily mean that Barry Keoghan needed to bare himself for that scene, as many other actors have made different choices. Lena Headey used a body double for Cersei’s infamous walk of shame on Game of Thrones. Tom Mison also had a body double for his nude scene in the Watchman TV series, in which he played Doctor Manhattan. Yet the actor says he chose to go for it in Saltburn, noting there was a totally separate part of filming the viral moment he was actually stressed about.

What Was Actually Toughest About The Nude Scene For Barry Keoghan To Film

Getting naked was no big deal for Barry Keoghan, but when asked about his nude scene, the actor noted that it was how Fennell wanted to shoot it that was most intimidating. When Oliver and Felix first work their way through the estate they are walking frenetically and Oliver is soaking in all of the details (fully clothed I might add). At the end of the movie when the Catton family is all gone, Felix throws on “Murder on the Dancefloor,” and then proceeds to trek his way through the house naked while the song is playing, grooving to the beat the whole time.

Fennell had previously said the scene had been written as a walk, but noted once the cast and crew were on set that it lacked the "feeling of triumph and joy, elation and post-coital success" that the director wanted. So she asked the actor to dance, and the rest is history. 

While he was uncomfortable with the moving and grooving portion, there was one point that played in his favor. He’d already filmed those two aforementioned and much-talked about scenes where he drank the bathwater Felix had just sat in and later masturbated on his grave. He revealed elsewhere in the Vanity Fair interview that once you've “fucked a grave” pretty much everything else is arbitrary; it’s just about getting comfortable.

While not necessarily written to be a sexually explicit streaming movie, the film will certainly be NSFW when it transitions from the big screen to Amazon Prime on December 22. While it’s probably not one for those with an Amazon Prime subscription to throw on with family around, it’s doubtless going to be one of the best movies Amazon has to offer, so be sure to tune in.

While Saltburn didn’t have the biggest Thanksgiving 2023 box office showing this weekend, it’s been a buzzy movie and kicked off solidly. A lot of the conversation has been around a certain bathtub scene involving leads Jacob Elordi and Barry Keoghan, to the point where Amazon even threw bathtubs into theater lobbies in order to market the film. Now, the director has shared her take on the scene the Internet can’t stop talking about, and I honestly feel like I saw a different movie. 

If you don’t know the premise of Saltburn, it is, in fact,  a story about envy and lust. Oliver Quick (Keoghan) begins university and isn’t among the in-crowd, until a seemingly chance encounter has him becoming friendly with popular, kind, and yes, rich kid Felix who eventually invites him home to his manor Saltburn for the summer. There, in a viral scene, Oliver watches Felix masturbate and then drinks the leftover water out of the tub. In the film, it’s a sign his obsession is growing, and the theatrical responses to the 2023 movie release have been notable.

The moment was so shocking, I saw the male audiencegoer sitting next to me making uncomfortable comments to his partner while hiding part of his face under his hat. Another person left the theater – which seems to have been a thing in other screenings too – though I suppose they may have just run to the bathroom, as I did not pay attention to whether or not they returned. But if you were to ask Emerald Fennell, she’s embraced the scene as a “sexy” cinematic moment.

I first read over her comments and was not on the same page at all. This scene was intense and more of sexually explicit movie moment than one I would describe as arousing. It plays out as creepy and disturbing in the moment, and given what I know now having seen the ending, it’s even more perverted in retrospect. Sexy is not an adjective that would come to mind at all. But Fennell would go on to explain this take, and in the meantime, others have been sharing their takes on Saltburn as well.

The truth is, some fans are comparing it to that conflicted peach masturbation scene in Call Me By Your Name, and others seem to just be reacting to the moment due to its shocking nature. To me, the real doozy of a scene actually comes later in the movie, when Oliver Quick himself also masterbates … on top of a grave. 

But Fennell is making a good point to People that the scene is certainly open to be interpreted in any given number of ways, and people should feel comfortable with whatever they have taken from the scene – even if it is discomfort. 

She went on to tell the outlet that she creates scenes like these in order to spark a reaction from the audience, sexy other otherwise. So, no matter what you felt watching, as long as you felt something, Jacob Elordi masturbating in a tub while Keoghan was creeping in the shadows was a great success.

Ultimately, no matter what you think of this particular scene, I do think it will be one of the best Amazon movies streaming once it wraps its official theatrical run. I still don’t know that I can agree the scene was “sexy,” but it’s certainly the type of cinematic moment that will stick with me for a long time, and Saltburn was chock full of those. It seems that was probably Emerald Fennell's point.

There’s no doubt in my mind that two of the most interesting actors working at the moment are Robert Pattinson and Barry Keoghan. From action-packed blockbusters to prestige drama, these two have made names for themselves by picking intriguing projects and they’ve both received wide acclaim for it. With all this in mind, the performers who played Batman and the Joker in The Batman cast sat down to chat about acting, their perspectives on their careers, and what it's like to do this job today. And let me tell you, it is fascinating. 

At the moment, Barry Keoghan is promoting his new project on the 2023 movie schedule, Emerald Fennell’s Saltburn, and he sat down with Pattinson to discuss his career up to this point. While the Twilight star has been a leading man for years, Fennell's second feature marks Keoghan's first time in such a role. Speaking to his The Batman co-star about the trajectory of his career during a Wonderland interview, he said: 

The two went on to discuss their processes, staying present during a shoot, and staying “quite loose with it,” as Pattinson put it. Both actors are well known for their fascinating acting styles and their fantastic choices when it comes to films. They’ve both worked on massive franchise films – for Pattinson that was Twilight, for Keoghan it was being in Marvel’s Eternals cast, and for both, it was The Batman. However, they have also both received a lot of love for their smaller projects, like Pattinson’s The Lighthouse or Keoghan’s The Banshees of Inisherin (which he received an Oscar nomination for in 2023). 

Speaking about how they choose projects, their prioritization of working with filmmakers they admire, and the ability to be a bit selective, Pattinson candidly opened up about his thoughts on being remembered, saying:

This led to the Saltburn star explaining his overall look on the projects he chooses. He said:

Overall, both Keoghan and Pattinson take their craft very seriously and pick carefully. However, they don’t want to box themselves into one kind of role or a singular type of movie either. They both love smaller movies, however, they won't shy way from a blockbuster either. From The Batman to Saltburn and Good Time, both actors have pretty incredible and diverse resumes, and their outlooks on acting and their careers are likely a big reason why.

I do believe that both these actors will be remembered for their incredible filmographies and performances. As Keoghan said, they “loan ourselves to it entirely,” and you can feel it. Their passion is palpable, and it has paid off in dividends.

Although Barry Keoghan has been professionally acting for over a decade, the last few years have seen him rising to prominence in Hollywood thanks to movies like The Green Knight, Eternals and The Banshees of Inisherin. Additionally, he cameoed in The Batman as The Joker, a character for whom he has big plans in the sequel. Before scoring that role though, Keoghan auditioned to play The Riddler in Matt Reeves’ reboot of DC Comics’ Caped Crusader… even though no one asked him to do so.

The actor recalled in an extensive interview with Esquire that after hearing there might be an opening to play Riddler in the next Batman movie, he quickly started putting together an audition tape. After buying a hat and cane from a costume shop for $10 and donning an outfit that included suspenders that formed an X on his back, he acted out a scene where he silently walked through a door and down a hall. His movements were shown in slow motion and the video even included music, with the whole thing being described in the piece as “creepy, but funny. Methodical.” Keoghan explained:

As anyone who’s seen The Batman can tell you, (and if you haven’t, it can be streamed with a Max subscription), Barry Keoghan accomplished his goal of being cast in the DC movie… well half of it, anyway. Paul Dano ended up snagging the Riddler role, but when the serial killer was incarcerated at Arkham State Hospital, he found himself befriending Keoghan’s Joker, who was locked in the cell next to them. So while Riddler eluded his grasp, Keoghan still succeeded in getting to bring a Batman villain to life in a creepy way. He shot his shot, and it paid off!

Shortly after The Batman’s release, a deleted scene showing Robert Pattinson’s title hero meeting with Keoghan’s Joker at Arkham was released to the public. Although the camera never directly focuses on this Joker’s face, it’s clear that it’s heavily disfigured, and we also learn that he already has history with Gotham City’s shadowy protector. Keoghan follows in the footsteps of actors like Caesar Romero, Jack Nicholson, Heath Ledger, Jared Leto and Joaquin Phoenix in bringing the Clown Prince of Crime to life, and while it hasn’t been officially announced yet if Joker will be in The Batman 2, Keoghan will be ready to reprise the role if/when the call comes.

Meanwhile, Barry Keoghan can next be seen in Saltburn, which is slated on the 2023 movies schedule for a November 17 arrival, and that will be followed in early 2024 by the Apple TV+ miniseries Masters of the Air. The Batman 2 comes on October 3, 2025, and naturally CinemaBlend will pass along updates on its progress amongst our other upcoming DC movies coverage.

Christopher Nolan's name has become cemented in film history because of his movies. From some of his earlier films to his most recent, Oppenheimer, Nolan has continued to show his prowess with storytelling, visual effects, and more. One other area that he tends to be excellent in is casting each film.

Every Nolan movie has had a fantastic cast, and Dunkirk is no exception. One of the best war movies of all time, this 2017 thriller featured cast members such as Barry Keoghan, Harry Styles, Cillian Murphy, and more. Today, we will talk about the Dunkirk cast and where they are now. 

Fionn Whitehead (Tommy)

First up on the list is Fionn Whitehead, who played Tommy in Dunkirk. The actor has appeared in a few movies since then, including the exhausting Black Mirror: Bandersnatch in the lead role, The Duke and Voyagers. He also had a central role in Great Expectations on television and a guest role on Queers. 

Right now, Whitehead doesn't have anything coming up, but judging from his experience so far, I'm sure it won't be long before you see him again. 

Tom Glynn-Carney (Peter Dawson)

Next up is Tom Glynn-Carney, who played Peter Dawson. The actor has appeared in movies such as Tolkien, The King, and Rialto. 

However, Glynn-Carney has since made his mark on television by playing Aegon Targaryen II in House of the Dragon, a role he will continue to play in Season 2. He also had a prominent role in The Last Post and appeared in Mayflies. 

Coming up, Glynn-Carney is going to appear in The Book of Clarence movie, along with Season 2 of House of the Dragon.

Jack Lowden (Collins)

Jack Lowden played Collins and has since appeared in several movies. Some of his most known films have included Mary Queen of Scots, Calibre, England is Mine, and Capone. He also had a role in Fighting with My Family alongside star Florence Pugh, and Benediction. 

On television, Lowden also had a part in Small Axe, a miniseries, and a primary role in Slow Horses, among other guest roles. He doesn't have anything coming out soon, but with his resume, I'm sure there will be plenty to look forward to. 

Harry Styles (Alex)

Dunkirk was Harry Styles' acting debut, and what a movie to start on. He is mainly known for his singing, as he was a part of the boy band One Direction and then expanded into his own solo career. But now, we've seen him more in the acting world. 

Since his part of Alex, Styles has stepped into film more, appearing in movies such as the infamous Don't Worry Darling, and My Policeman. He also had a minor cameo in Eternals, but the role is most likely going to appear more within the MCU. 

Styles has also appeared as a musical guest/hosted Saturday Night Live a few times and guest-hosted The Late Late Show with James Corden. 

While he doesn't have anything acting-wise coming up, I'm sure it won't be long before he releases a new album after the success of his two-year tour. Film has never been his go-to, but I have a feeling we'll be seeing plenty more of him in the next few years. 

Aneurin Barnard (Gibson)

Aneurin Barnard played Gibson in Dunkirk, who has appeared in plenty of films since his time in the war movie. Some are The Goldfinch, Radioactive, Bigger, and The Personal History of David Copperfield. Barnard has also been in several TV shows, including a prominent role on 1899 on Netflix, a central role on The Catch, and a guest role on Peaky Blinders, among many other appearances. 

Coming up, Barnard will appear in Series 14 of Doctor Who and will be in the TV film Men Up, as well as another movie called Timestalker. 

James D’Arcy (Colonel Winnant)

James D'Arcy played Colonel Winnant in Dunkirk, and since his role, he has appeared in various movies and TV shows. He was part of the vast Oppenheimer cast and appeared in films such as The Snowman, Six Minutes to Midnight, Life Like, and more. He also had a recurring role on Homeland and a big role on Deadline. Coming up, he will be in a new series called Constellation. 

Barry Keoghan (George Mills)

Barry Keoghan has had quite the career explosion since playing George Mills. He was nominated for an Academy Award for his role in The Banshees of Inisherin and appeared in such films as Eternals, the King Arthur adaptation The Green Knight, Calm With Horses, and more. 

Keoghan has also had experience on television, with a small recurring guest role on Chernobyl and the series Top Boy on Netflix. He will be in several new films called Saltburn, Bring Them Down, The Bird, and the upcoming Gladiator 2. He will also be in a TV series called Masters of Air. 

Kenneth Branagh (Commander Bolton)

Another famous face from Dunkirk is Kenneth Branagh, who plays Commander Bolton. Since its premiere, Branagh has appeared in several films, including Murder on the Orient Express and its sequel, Death on the Nile. He also had roles in Fireheart, Tenet, and Oppenheimer, continuing his trend of collaborating with Nolan. 

He also had a leading role on a TV series called England and had a guest role on Upstart Crow. Coming up, he will star in A Haunting in Venice, where he will again reprise his role of Hercule Poirot. 

Cillian Murphy (Shivering Soldier) 

Cillian Murphy played the Shivering Soldier in the war film. The actor has appeared in various movies since, such as Anna, The Delinquent Season, and A Quiet Place: Part II, but most are hearing about Murphy from his starring role in Oppenheimer, where he plays – you guessed it – Oppenheimer himself. 

Besides that, he wrapped up his leading part on the hit show Peaky Blinders in 2022. Soon, he'll be in a new film called Small Things Like These and appear in the horror film 28 Months Later.

Mark Rylance (Mr. Dawson)

Mark Rylance played Mr. Dawson, and has since appeared in several films. These include Waiting for Barbarians, Ready Player One, Don't Look Up, The Trial of the Chicago 7, Bones and All, and more. Regarding television, he appeared in a role on Wolf Hall and The Undeclared War. The next time you'll see him is in the movie, The Way of the Wind. 

Tom Hardy (Farrier) 

Tom Hardy is another excellent example of an actor who has continued to grow immensely in Hollywood. He played Farrier in Dunkirk and has appeared in many recent films, including the Venom movies, where he plays the main character, Eddie, and the movie Capone. 

He also had a supporting role on Peaky Blinders and was part of a nature series called Predators. Soon, he will be starring in the third Venom film and the Netflix movie, Havoc, as well as a film called The Bikeriders. 

Michael Caine (Voice) (Fortis Leader)

Last but not least, we have Michael Caine. While he was not featured physically in the movie, Caine's voice was used as a cameo when he voiced Fortis Leader. 

The actor has appeared in movies such as Dear Dictator, King of Thieves, Tenet, Best Sellers, and more, and will appear in The Great Escaper. 

With so many outstanding cast members, one can only wonder what they will do next. And now, I will see Oppenheimer again for the umpteenth time to find all the cast members from this list in there.
