We're getting closer and closer to the sequel, or "companion" piece, as producers are calling it, to 2010's The Social Network. The Social Reckoning is on the way as part of the 2026 movie schedule. There will be an entirely new cast, including the part of Mark Zuckerberg, and this one is being written and directed by Aaron Sorkin.

Sorkin wrote the first movie, but it was directed by David Fincher. Fincher isn't involved this time around. Now that we have a title for the movie, we've also learned a little more about what to expect from the continuation of the Facebook story, and this one may not be quite as light as much of the first one was.

Here is everything we currently know about The Social Reckoning.

What Is The Social Reckoning Release Date?

The Social Reckoning will be released on October 9, 2026. Filming began in October 2025 in Vancouver and was expected to be completed in December, but we've not heard confirmation as of this writing that it has wrapped.

The Social Network Part II Cast

The first film really ignited the careers of both Jesse Eisenberg and Andrew Garfield, both of whom have gone on to have very fulfilling careers in the last fifteen years. Eisenberg earned an Academy Award nomination for his part in the film, but has confirmed he will not be returning for this continuation. Gardfield has also stated he will not be returning, either.

However, the first cast members' names have been released, and it's an impressive list that includes Emmy and Oscar winners. That includes who will be playing Zuckerberg, as well as other familiar names important to telling the story. In fact, some of the characters provide some hints as to what we'll see in The Social Reckoning.

Jeremy Strong

Probably the most anticipated question about the casting of The Social Reckoning is who will play Facebook co-founder Mark Zuckerberg. We now have the answer, and it's none other than Emmy Award-winner Jeremy Strong. This is an interesting choice, but there is no doubt that Strong has the chops to play any role, and his take on Zuckerberg will be fascinating, especially at this pivotal time in the Facebook CEO's career.

This will be the third film in a row where Strong will be playing a real person. In 2024, he earned an Academy Award nomination for playing Roy Cohn in the Donald Trump biopic The Apprentice. In 2025, he played music manager Jon Landau in Delivery Me From Nowhere, along with one of his co-stars in this movie, Jeremy Allen White.

Mikey Madison As Frances Haugen

Oscar-winner Mikey Madison will play Frances Haugen, who is a former data engineer at Facebook-turned-whistleblower. Haugen worked with Congress and the press to release The Facebook Files, which opened up the social media company to a slew of criticisms over how it handled content from its millions of users.

Madison had a huge breakout year in 2024 when she starred in Anora as the titular character. She won an Academy Award for her performance, and the movie took home Best Picture as well. This will be her first role since that breakout performance, so I'm excited to see what she does with the role.

Jeremy Allen White

Jeremy Allen White is probably best none right now for playing the lead in The Bear, which you can watch with a Hulu subscription. Of course, that's hardly all White has been busy with lately. He crushed it earlier in 2025 as Bruce Springsteen in Delivery Me From Nowhere, about The Boss recording his seminal album Nebraska.

White will be playing Jeff Horwitz, the Wall Street Journal reporter who wrote the first story about The Facebook Files and broke the news that led to Frances Haugen's testimony in front of Congress.

He's going to keep busy in 2026, both in this movie and in The Mandalorian and Grogu. Oh, and yeah, there will be another season of The Bear in 2026, too.

What Is The Social Reckoning Going To Be About?

While plot details are sparse, we do know that The Social Reckoning is based on The Facebook Files from The Wall Street Journal, which was an “explosive series of articles” that exposed Facebook's controversies, including data leaks, corruption, and more.

Deadline reported in June that the impact of the January 6th Capitol Riots in 2021 played a large role in Aaron Sorkin's inspiration for this sequel, and how Facebook might have played a part in inciting those events, as well as how the site has harmed the mental health of teenagers, inspired violence, and much more.

The film will examine the impact of social media on our society as a whole over the last fifteen years or so, as well as the scrutiny Facebook has faced due to troubling accusations and reports. It sounds about right, given how much social media has evolved since the first film was released.

Aaron Sorkin Will Direct And Write

One major change from the first film is that David Fincher will not be directing this one. Instead, the reins have passed to Aaron Sorkin, who wrote the screenplay for the first film and has since become a top director in Hollywood.

Sorkin has also written The Social Reckoning, which he adapted from the book The Accidental Billionaires by Ben Mezrich. The screenplay won an Oscar in 2013. Sorkin, of course, has a fantastic screenwriting resume, including Moneyball, Steve Jobs, A Few Good Men, and, of course, the first four seasons of The West Wing.

Sorkin has proven himself to be a great director. He has helmed three critically-acclaimed films: The Trial of the Chicago 7, Being the Ricardos, and Molly’s Game. He has a fantastic track record, so there is no reason not to trust this one in his capable hands.

Saturday Night Live’s historic 50th season has come with plenty of big moments in the 2025 TV guide, including some controversies like Aimee Lou Wood's discourse over "The White Potus" skit and Morgan Wallen's viral walk-off. A lighter development that I love, however, comes courtesy of Bill Burr. Apparently, during the big anniversary weekend, the comedian confronted Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder about the infamous band. Specifically, Burr shared how much he hated the signature ‘90s genre, and I couldn’t love the anecdote more.

Burr, currently a part of the Broadway show Glengarry Glen Ross, stopped in at Late Night with Seth Meyers. The pair talked about the play, along with his new special, Bill Burr: Drop Dead Years (available to those with a Hulu account). Perhaps most memorably, they also covered the backstory of his disdain for Pearl Jam and its frontman. Via YouTube, the comedian revealed that he hated the band when they first popped up because it was a continuing shift in the music scene. He shared:

Bill Burr is just too good holding onto this grudge for a few decades. Even though the world seems to have pretty stark (love them or hate them) views for Pearl Jam and Eddie Vedder, the Old Dads alum’s grudge on grunge takes the cake. The best part has to be that he isn't wrong. Nirvana showed up first, but Pearl Jam upped the ante.

The multi-decade saga seemed to be officially put to bed at the huge Studio 8H special event (which you can watch with a Peacock subscription). It’s all thanks to the huge anniversary weekend budget that brought in plenty of A-listers for the concert that had its fair share of memorable moments, (despite a few missed opportunities for some). Burr was able to hang with the Vedder during the evening and explain, humorously, the longstanding bone he had to pick with the band. He also stated that he’s now a Pearl Jam fan:

Again, there aren’t many like the Breaking Bad alum in Hollywood, and you’ve got to love him for it! For him to feel the vitriol in the first place, hold onto it for so long, get over it, and then share the whole thing with the lead singer is gold. It makes me want to know more of the funnyman’s opinions, including his feelings on the theorized idea about being Billy Corgan's half-brother. I'm sure there'd be more laugh-out-loud hot takes from the 56-year-old. At this point, there’s enough evidence that they aren’t related.

Now that the dissatisfaction for Pearl Jam has disappeared for Burr, I can catch up with the aforementioned March 14th standup and wait for his next grievance to arise. If it’s anything like this one, I will be just as invested.

Also, SNL's scheduled hosts and musical acts continue to bring their A game, with Quinta Brunson and Benson Boone serving as May 3rd’s host and music act, respectively. It’ll be airing on NBC on the eponymous night at 11:30 p.m. EST and available to stream the following day with a Peacock account.

The next time you watch a comedy movie, see if you can picture the star engaging in fisticuffs with a criminal and taking down their henchpeople in a shootout. You never know: they could be Hollywood’s next great action hero.

In 1995, he was cast in director Michael Bay's buddy cop movie, Bad Boys, and, the following year, led Roland Emmerich's action-packed alien invasion flick, Independence Day. There would soon be so much more where those came from.

Cheech Marin

Along with his partner, Tommy Chong, Cheech Marin essentially became the face of stoner comedy, especially after co-leading the classic '70s movie, Up in Smoke. His career would take a turn when he appeared in 1995's Desperado, leading him to become a staple of Robert Rodriguez's movies, and, eventually, began portraying a type of character his roles from the Cheech & Chong movies would try to avoid alongside Don Johnson in the hit cop show, Nash Bridges.

Chris Pratt

By channeling much of the same comedic energy from his scene-stealing breakout role in the Parks and Recreation cast as Andy Dwyer, Chris Pratt helped make 2014's sci-fi odyssey, Guardians of the Galaxy, a light breath of fresh air into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. His fun, heartfelt performance as Peter "Star-Lord" Quill also convinced Hollywood he was leading man material, opening the door for him to star in the Jurassic World movies and Amazon Prime's The Terminal List, to name a few.

Paul Rudd

Paul Rudd made his major motion picture debut in the hilarious high school movie classic Clueless before later hit comedies like Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, The 40-Year-Old Virgin, and Knocked Up made him one of Hollywood's most sought-after actors in the genre. He found the perfect role to become inducted into the MCU in the form of Ant-Man, playing the shrinking superhero with the same everyman quality that made him an A-lister.

Michael Keaton

Because Michael Keaton got his start in stand-up comedy and had been best known for movies like Night Shift and Mr. Mom at the time, comic book fans were up in arms over Tim Burton's decision to cast him in his live-action Batman movies, Batman and Batman Returns. The Oscar nominee has since been regarded as one of the best actors to play the Dark Knight (if not the best) and would even return to superhero movies as one of the best Spider-Man movie villains, Vulture, in 2017's Spider-Man: Homecoming.

Nicolas Cage

It is easy to forget that Nicolas Cage started out in comedies like Valley Girl and Peggy Sue Got Married before blowing us away in high-octane thrillers like Con Air, Face/Off, and Gone in 60 Seconds. Then again, it is also easy to tell that the Oscar winner has a comedy background from some of his action movie credits, including the three listed above and his even Cagier roles, like from Mandy and Willy's Wonderland.

Damon Wayans

You may have forgotten he was on Saturday Night Live, but you should surely remember Damon Wayans from his days on the In Living Color cast and from sitcoms like My Wife and Kids. Hopefully, you did not also forget about his roles in '90s crime thrillers The Last Boy Scout (opposite Bruce Willis) and Bulletproof (opposite Adam Sandler) or when he took over as Roger Murtaugh for Fox's series adaptation of Lethal Weapon.

Robert Downey Jr.

After lasting one season on Saturday Night Live, appearing in several '80s teen comedies like Weird Science, and earning his first Oscar nod for playing Charlie Chaplin, Robert Downey Jr.'s career would hit a snag in the early 2000s. Luckily, he would make an inspiring comeback after leading the 2005 noir thriller Kiss Kiss Bang Bang before kicking off the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the title role of Iron Man and playing Guy Ritchie's version of Sherlock Holmes.

Eddie Murphy

Many credit Eddie Murphy with single-handedly saving Saturday Night Live in the early 1980s, right before making his feature debut alongside Nick Nolte in Walter Hill's 1982 buddy crime thriller, 48 Hrs. Just two years later, the comedian led his own acclaimed action-comedy movie called Beverly Hills Cop, which made him Hollywood's biggest star.

Bruce Willis

In the mid-to-late 1980s, Bruce Willis was best known for playing David Addison on Moonlighting, starring opposite Kim Basinger in Blind Date, and appearing in commercials for Seagram, which is why audiences initially laughed when they saw him as John McClane in the trailer for Die Hard. However, the 1988 action classic would immediately skyrocket the actor to stardom and turn him into a top Hollywood action star, later known for leading thrillers like The Fifth Element, Armageddon, and Sin City.

Jamie Foxx

Jamie Foxx's stand-up career led him to join the In Living Color cast and lead his own self-titled sitcom before his Oscar-winning performance in the 2004 music biopic, Ray, and Oscar-nominated performance in Collateral the same year opened wider doors for him. He went on to star in more thrillers like Jarhead, The Kingdom, Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 as Electro, and White House Down.

Alan Ritchson

One of Alan Ritchson's first major acting credits was playing doltish college football player Thad Castle on the uproarious sitcom Blue Mountain State before landing a small role in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, doing performance capture for the 2014 and 2017 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies, and playing Hank "Hawk" Hall on Titans. The 6'3" actor's defining, star-making turn came when he was cast in the title role of the hit Amazon Prime TV show, Reacher, leading to his casting in Guy Ritchie's The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare.

Lucy Liu

Lucy Liu landed her breakthrough role on the hit workplace dramedy Ally McBeal as Ling Woo. Soon after, she achieved cinematic stardom in 2000's Charlie's Angels, teamed up with Antonio Banderas in the 2002 spy thriller Ballistic: Ecks vs. Sever, and was cast as ruthless assassin O-Ren Ishii in Quentin Tarantino's Kill Bill.

Bob Odenkirk

Bob Odenkirk wrote for Saturday Night Live for years in the 1980s before co-leading his own acclaimed sketch comedy series with David Cross called Mr. Show, which was his main claim to fame for years. However, he stumbled onto a new career path when he joined the Breaking Bad cast as Saul Goodman, who earned his own prequel spin-off called Better Call Saul, before leading his own action flick called Nobody.

Martin Lawrence

Martin Lawrence led a successful stand-up career that turned into a successful TV career with his hit sitcom, Martin, in between starring in movies like Do the Right Thing and Boomerang. In 1995, he played Det. Marcus Burnett, for the first of multiple times in Bad Boys and even went on to play a cop in a few more overt comedies, namely Blue Streak and Big Momma's House.

Ryan Reynolds

For years, even after starring in more earnest thrillers like Smokin' Aces and Safe House, it seemed like Ryan Reynolds' defining performance would forever be the title role of National Lampoon's Van Wilder, which paved the way for him to star in more raunchy comedies like Waiting... or Just Friends. However, that would change in 2016 when he led Deadpool, which is still very much on the side of silly but is also as action-packed as any other comic book movie.

Sam Richardson

Sam Richardson quickly became a favorite in the comedy landscape for his hilarious performances in shows like I Think You Should Leave, Veep, and Ted Lasso. He would later go on to impress audiences in Amazon Prime's action-packed time travel movie The Tomorrow War opposite Chris Pratt, as the lead of the 2021 horror-comedy movie Werewolves Within, and in Paramount+'s Star Trek: Section 31.

Keanu Reeves

As the star of franchises like the John Wick movies and the Matrix films, in addition to favorites like Speed and Point Break, Keanu Reeves is one of the most prolific action stars in cinema history. Thus, it is sometimes hard to believe that he is the same actor who, excellently, played one-half of the titular duo from the Bill & Ted movies.

John Goodman

John Goodman began rising to prominence on the groundbreaking sitcom Roseanne as Dan Conner (whom he would reprise in the revival series The Conners). However, he has managed to cover just about every genre you can think of throughout his career, including action films like Kong: Skull Island and Atomic Blonde.

Emily Blunt

It might seem like a stretch to call Emily Blunt a comedy star, but she did find her breakthrough film role with a hilarious scene-stealing performance in 2006's The Devil Wears Prada. She would later prove she could play someone with a rougher exterior when she starred opposite Tom Cruise in the thrilling time loop movie, Edge of Tomorrow, and in Denis Villeneuve's stunning Sicario.

Rick Moranis

Rick Moranis is one of the most treasured comedic actors of his time, from his days at SCTV starring alongside Dave Thomas as the McKenzie Brothers (who led their own 1983 movie, Strange Brew), to appearing in films like Ghostbusters, Little Shop of Horrors, and Honey, I Shrunk the Kids. In the middle of those comedy classics was a role in Walter Hill's dystopian "Rock 'n Roll fable," Streets of Fire.

Bill Burr

Bill Burr used to mock the Star Wars movies in some of his stand-up bits, which gave The Mandalorian creator Jon Favreau a funny idea to bring him into the galaxy far, far away. He cast the Massachusetts-born comedian on the series as a mercenary named Migs Mayfield, which Burr has since recognized as one of the highlights of his career.

John Leguizamo

Despite getting his start as a stand-up comedian, many of John Leguizamo's earliest acting roles have actually been in action movies, including Die Hard 2 and Executive Decision. In addition to more humorous credits, like To Wong Foo, Thanks For Everything, Julie Newmar and the Ice Age movies, more thrillers would come his way, such as the John Wick movies and Violent Night.

Owen Wilson

Owen Wilson may be closely associated with comedies like Bottle Rocket, Meet the Parents, and Zoolander, but the actor has diversified his talents over various styles. He has even tried his hand at the action genre a few times, most notably in Behind Enemy Lines, No Escape, and Disney+'s MCU-canon series, Loki

Tom Hanks

Tom Hanks' first major show business breakthrough was a sitcom called Bosom Buddies, which led to roles in comedy films like Bachelor Party and Turner & Hooch. It was his Oscar-winning roles in Philadelphia and Forrest Gump that opened the door for him to star in intense dramas like the acclaimed war movie Saving Private Ryan and the sci-fi epic Cloud Atlas.

Val Kilmer

Mila Kunis

Mila Kunis rose to fame as Jackie Burkhart in the That '70s Show cast and as the voice of Meg on Family Guy before acquiring A-list fame. Her action movie credits, namely the video game movie adaptation Max Payne and the Wachowski's ambitious sci-fi adventure, Jupiter Ascending, have not been her most esteemed efforts, but we will still count them.

Randall Park

Randall Park is best known for leading the sitcom Fresh off the Boat, his hilarious cameo on The Office as "Asian Jim Halpert," and for hit comedy movies like The Interview and Neighbors. He has also become a staple of the comic book movie genre with his role in the MCU as Agent Jimmy Woo and as Dr. Shin in the Aquaman movies.

Shia LaBeouf

Shia LaBeouf started making a name for himself when he was a teen as Louis on the Disney Channel original comedy series, Even Stevens. He went on to make a Hollywood breakthrough in the Transformers movies, which led to his roles in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and, eventually, David Ayer's 2014 war drama, Fury.

Malin Akerman

Before she became the first actor to play Silk Spectre II in live-action in 2009's Watchmen, Malin Akerman rose to fame in comedy movies like 2007's The Heartbreak Kid and shows like Children's Hospital.

Jim Belushi

Just like his late older brother, John, Jim Belushi broke out on Saturday Night Live. Unlike John, Jim achieved a brief career in action movies, such as Red Heat with Arnold Schwarzenegger, The Principal, and Oliver Stone's Salvador.

Ernest Borgnine

Ernest Borgnine was already an Oscar-winning movie star when he was cast as the lead of the hit sitcom, McHale's Navy. Eventually, he would appear in more earnest action-oriented titles, such as a made-for-TV adaptation of All Quiet on the Western Front, John Carpenter's Escape from New York, and 2010's RED.

When we hear about celebrities being related, it usually involves those who already have famous parents. Occasionally, though, the internet discovers two disperate stars like Joe Rogan and Gerard Way are related, and loses its collective mind. A similar such occurrence took place when Smashing Pumpkins lead singer Billy Corgan publicly shared comedian Bill Burr might be his half-brother, which interested Howie Mandel enough to get both entertainers together for a hilarious chat.

Bill Burr was the scheduled guest on the AGT judge's podcast Howie Mandel Does Stuff, and was unaware that Corgan would be making an appearance. The comedian, whose hilarious quotes might telegraph how he'd feel about being surprised on a podcast, was predictably miffed as he proceeded to call the other two out. Check out the segment below:

For the record, there's enough credible evidence out there done by Men's Journal and Corgan himself to prove that he's not actually related to Bill Burr. The comedian's main gripe, as he pointed to in the segment, is that Corgan going public with that story led to Burr's relationship with his own father being brought up, which wasn't great for the stand-up fave. Incidentally, Burr's father was a dentist and not a traveling musician like Corgan's father was.

We all know Bill Burr as a great comedian, but I think those on the web convinced this segment has some truth to it may need to watch some of Burr's movies as well. The comedian was a good sport and leaned into the segment for entertainment value, despite the half-brother connection not having merit. I do have to wonder, though, with this video now going viral, will the identity of Billy Corgan's actual half-brother come to light?

While Burr and Corgan didn't necessarily get any closer as "brothers" on the podcast, they did land on a mutual love of pro wrestling. So, if you see these two at any upcoming WWE events in the future, it's not because they're on a family outing. They also found some common ground in agreeing that Howie Mandel was a jerk for setting all this up, knowing full well that Burr would be upset about it.

As for what's next for Bill Burr, he has an upcoming sequel for his animated movie Leo, which is available with a Netflix subscription. We still don't know if his Migs Mayfield will be a part of the cast of The Mandalorian and Grogu, the Star Wars movie planned around the title characters that made waves on streaming. I'd love to see him pop up, even if some fans have issues with his Boston accent appearing in the franchise.

Bill Burr has taken up the mantle of bygone truth-telling comedians like George Carlin, Bill Hicks, and Lenny Bruce. He's far from politically correct, which often gets in trouble, but that is something his fans love. His stand-up acts are wildly popular as his Monday Morning Podcast, which he's hosted for almost two decades now. It would be impossible to list all his greatest lines, but here are 32 I can't get enough of. 

“My favorite kind of humor is basically, if it was happening to you, it wouldn’t be funny, but to observe it, it’s hilarious.”

"Observational humor" is a popular term when describing standup acts, but it is a lazy term, unless you get at what it's really about. Burr is cutting and sometimes mean, but we all are sometimes. 

"There's something about going to a dude ranch that makes you feel like a man, even though you're basically just riding a horse."

Going to a dude ranch doesn't make you a rancher, but it does feel "manly" to pretend like you're living on the Oregon Trail without the threat of dead oxen and dysentery. 

"Any job you can do in your pajamas is not a difficult job."

Speaking as someone who could work in my pajamas (I don't), I disagree with the premise of the joke. I also appreciate it because thankfully my job doesn't involved a lot of physical stress, so in that sense, it's easier. 

"Who would run for a job where it costs 100 million to get it so you can make 400 grand a year? That isn’t a red flag to anybody?"

Burr isn't afraid to delve into politics, though he's usually pretty disgusted by all of it, rather than partisan one way or the other. Running for President does sound like a thing only fools would reach for. 

“I still remember the first gig where I got people going, it was Rascals in New Jersey, and the place was packed. I was scared. People were expecting me to be funny. I gotta be honest, every time I walk into a club, it’s that same fear.”

Bill Burr is proud of his career as a stand up comic, and seems completely satisfied by it. It also seems to genuinely terrify him sometimes. 

“I bet The Walking Dead gets really low ratings out in Montana, just because all they need to do is look out their window, am I right?”

If you're from a big city and you've ever been to Montana (I have), you know it's both incredibly beautiful and at the same time, a little scary and desolate. Burr hits the nail on the head here. 

“Let’s go to Brunch. What a great idea! Why would you want to sleep in on a Sunday when you can go pay $18 for eggs? Now, you’re thinking.”

I agree with Burr 100% here. Brunch is the most overrated thing in dining. I love breakfast, and I love lunch, but brunch? No way, never. It's really just an excuse to day drink, but there are cheaper and better ways to that, even. 

"I love how we'll eat a pizza that can clog four arteries in one slice, but we're concerned about sodium."

It's important to worry about sodium, or anything else that if you consume too much is bad for you. You can't worry about one thing at the expense of all the others though. This is just common sense, something Burr has a lot. 

"I'm not saying women are smarter than men, but I am saying that men are dumber than women."

That's right, the women are smarter. Or at least, they aren't as dumb as men. Everyone's a little stupid, right? Burr thinks so. Even he is sometimes. Not here though. 

“I love making movies, and being in any that I can be in. I’d like to be in those giant movies, as the fifth or sixth lead, and have three or four killer scenes. You don’t have the responsibility of the entire movie being on you. I like those roles. I’m shooting for the middle.”

C students united! Shooting for the middle isn't something we all admit to striving to do, but it's where many of us feel the most comfortable. Like the Mandalorian actor, I don't need to be an overachiever, just let me be something good but without too much pressure. It's better for my health (and his, apparently). He's happy being a character actor. 

"Marriage is just finding that one person who annoys you the least."

I don't actually find "take my wife, please" kind of jokes all that funny, but Burr does land this one pretty well. Let's be honest, wife, friend, family member... they all will annoy you at some point. A good partner is the one that does it the least. 

"You have no idea how long a year is until you’re stone sober.”

I'm not endorsing a reckless life that involves too much drinking, but it does make things more fun, which in turn makes them go by too fast. I think a lot of people will look back on the Covid lockdowns and agree here. 

“Carnegie Hall is as good as they say it is. It’s not like Stonehenge which looks great in books but then you go there and it’s a pile of rocks next to a highway. There’s actually a highway right next to it, but you don’t see that in pictures.”

Taking shots at rock formations thousands of years old is easy. But Bill Burr is not wrong here. Stonehenge is kind of a letdown in person. 

“A lot of my fears and anxieties are the fears and anxieties of a six-year-old boy. When I finally confront them, they’re really small.”

Has anyone ever said anything more true? While it's true there are things that are more serious, so many anxieties and fears are not much different when we're 36 than they were when we were six. Face them, you'll be better for it, like Bill says. 

“I actually had the urge to elbow an elderly lady today...”

Once again, it's Bill Burr saying the quiet part out loud, which is why he's so popular. We've all had urges like this. We don't actually elbow elderly people, but that doesn't mean we don't want to sometimes. 

“I’m not going to lie. I am a psycho. Luckily, I get most of it out on stage.”

The stand-up stage is the last refuge of the depressed comic. Burr's not alone here, he just rachets it up. And is honest about himself. 

“I used to always work in, like, warehouses, because if my boss gave me a rough time, I could just get on a forklift and just, like, drive away from him.”

In college I worked in a warehouse and I can't tell you how much this joke resonates with me. It should resonate with anyone with a terrible boss. We can't all be like Peter in Office Space, but we can take some action. 

"The best way to teach your kids how to save money is to keep all your financial struggles completely hidden from them."

Amen. We all might pretend we don't have struggles sometimes, especially with our kids. And we need them to teach them the same thing! Keep it all inside! Right? RIGHT?

"Nothing screams 'I have a drinking problem' like boarding a plane with your own beer coozy."

Technically you're not allowed to bring your own drinks on a plane, but there is no rule that says you can't bring a coozy! It's easiest to order multiple beers at once, this'll help keep them cold.  

“Realize that sleeping on a futon when you’re 30 is not the worst thing. You know what’s worse, sleeping in a king bed next to a wife you’re not really in love with but for some reason you married, and you got a couple kids, and you got a job you hate. You’ll be laying there fantasizing about sleeping on a futon. There’s no risk when you go after a dream. There’s a tremendous amount to risk to playing it safe.”

Some would argue it's better to have loved and lost than to have never of loved at all. Bill Burr disagrees. Sometimes not taking risks is the smarter move. 

“I heard a quote once in a documentary about a band that said you’re better off owning everything 100 percent and selling 20,000 copies of an album than signing with a record company and selling a million copies. There has never been a truer statement about show business than that.”

There is always a real truth under what Bill Burr says and while this isn't really a joke, it is a bemusing way of looking at how people are taken advantage of in Hollywood and everywhere else. If you can make it on your own, that's always the best way. 

"Taking care of a baby is the ultimate slap in the face to somebody who used to think they were cool."

Yep, all the dads out there know it. Once you're a dad, you're no longer cool. Is that worth it? To most, sure, but don't be delusional, you're not cool anymore. 

“I think I know how to raise a kid. You just play catch with ’em. You just talk about life, and you distract them by throwing the ball. They don’t even notice that you’re filling up their heads with your theories.”

Parents have a lot of power, both for good and bad, This is a classic Burr misdirection, make it sound wholesome, then turn that on its head and make it just a little dark. 

“Haven’t you noticed that every time the government screws up McDonald’s has a new sandwich?”

This is one of Bill Burr's most famous jokes, and I'm not even sure I get it, but somehow it's always stuck with me. I guess it's funny? 

"What would you rather be? 52 and look 52, or 52 and look like a 28-year-old lizard?”

Judging by his receding hairline, Burr is practicing what he preaches here. It's better to age gracefully than fight it with fillers and lifts. It's easier said than done, especially for men, but it is good advice. 

“Do you know how many times a week people ask me why I’m yelling?”

You can say a lot about the comedian, but you can't say he isn't self-aware. He's angry and he knows it. 

"There's nothing more freeing than being able to speak your mind and not care what anyone thinks of you. Unless you're married."

Let's be honest, it's not like Burr has held back when it comes to speaking his mind, ever. I don't think marriage matters, at least for him. It may matter to the rest of us. 

“I wish they would teach it in schools: Give people the belief that they are going to do well. A lot of people are really talented and scared to follow their talent because you don’t know where it’s going.”

Bill Burr doesn't have to be telling jokes to impart some real wisdom. Like here. It's not meant to be funny, but is meant to be true. 

"I don't think I'm cursed with a weak jawline. I think I have a very strong jawline that just happens to be attached to a very weak brain."

This is more self-effacing humor, but make no mistake, he's not weak-brained. Weak jawline? Sure, but not a weak mind. 

"You know, I can't even imagine waking up and not having coffee. I'd kill everybody."

Anyone with a serious addiction to coffee will understand this one and empathize. I know I do. 

"I'm like that loud guy in the bar, who kind of makes sense for about ten minutes, and then you realise he flunked everything at high school so you just laugh at him."

We're laughing with you, Bill. If anyone is asking. 

"I don't have pet peeves, I have major psychotic hatreds."

I identify with this so much. I probably don't have as many psychotic hatreds as Bill Burr, when I do get annoyed with something, I really get irrationally annoyed. "Pet peeve" just isn't enough. 

Bill Burr's humor is not for everyone and some of it isn't even for me, but when he nails a joke, or a truth bomb, he really nails it. 

For years now, Adam Sandler has easily proven himself to be a huge draw for Netflix,  where each of his streaming projects has enjoyed much success on the service's Top 10 charts, with 2023 alone already having delivered Murder Mystery 2 and You Are Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah. (Not to mention The Out-Laws, which he produced through Happy Madison Productions.) I looks like the third time's yet another charm for the Sandman, with his new animated comedy Leo set to premiere in mid-November, and fans oozed only kind words and compliments after he shared the trailer on social media. 

With as simple a caption as can be, albeit still a positive-minded one, Sandler posted the Leo trailer on Instagram, and his comments were populated by almost entirely positive reactions, anticipation, and a general outpouring of appreciation for everything he delivers. Check it out below!

Leo marks Adam Sandler's biggest animated feature outside of the Hotel Transylvania franchise, and the emotionally poignant storyline could make it a huge hit for viewers of all ages. In it, he plays a jaded lizard who aims to add a spark to his dull life as an elementary school's class pet. But he ends up adding that spark to all of the students he meets, thanks to both the fact that he can talk and the fact that he can dispense pretty good life advice for a non-human entity. With Bill Burr, Cecily Strong and Jason Alexander also starring, Leo looks like a fun and heartfelt romp on the other end of the comedic spectrum from some of Sandler's more R-rated fare. 

And as already mentioned, the actor's fans and followers exuded positivity for the new movie and for Sandler all around. Even for all that his live-action comedies can polarize audiences, depending on their maturity levels, the reactions to this trailer were almost shockingly free from snark or any other usual forms of Internet trollery. Success in the entertainment industry is a fickle thing. For example, at one point, it would have been fair to say that Dane Cook was the biggest comedian in the world. During this time, he was selling out Madison Square Garden, being referenced in pop culture on shows like Jeopardy!, and  even Cook even auditioned for Steven Spielberg. After a series of romantic comedies that didn’t get the warmest critical reception, he fell victim to overexposure, but he’s still performing stand-up to huge crowds and maintains a rather loyal fanbase to this day. While he may have become a household name in his early 30s, other comics around that time arrived late to the party, and this includes Cook’s longtime friend Bill Burr.

Burr has appeared twice on the massively popular Disney+ show The Mandalorian, which of course takes place in the Star Wars universe. I caught up with Dane Cook to discuss his new special Above It All, which is when he relayed this story to me about recently calling out Burr for being a “hypocrite”:

It’s well known that Bill Burr isn’t the biggest Star Wars fan, and in the past he had even gone so far as to criticize the fandom itself. Dane Cook, on the other hand, is a Star Wars superfan. If you watch the interview clip at the top of this article, you can see a slew of Star Wars memorabilia in his office, including Darth Vader and Kylo Ren's masks. The Mandalorian’s creator Jon Favreau didn’t seem to mind Burr’s feelings on the franchise, which in the end was the right move, as his character, Migs Mayfeld, has created some hilarious moments for the show.

Dane Cook was clearly just poking fun at his peer, as his comments contained no ill will, and he went on to applaud the comedian's entrepreneurial spirit:

Star Wars has managed to recruit a wide range of talent over the years, and this is especially true when it comes to The Mandalorian. In its first two seasons alone, the show has brought plenty of noteworthy stars, from franchise newcomers like Pedro Pascal and Rosario Dawson to veterans such as Katee Sackhoff and Temuera Morrison. Actor and comedian Bill Burr, who portrays the character of Migs Mayfield, falls under the former category. Many were likely surprised that the star found his way into the franchise, given his tendency to rip on Star Wars fans… a lot. But as it so happens, it was this very thing that helped land him the role.

In the past, Bill Burr hasn’t shied away from making a joke or two at the expense of Star Wars fans. The comedian recently discussed his work on the series and, while doing so, he explained how exactly he came to be a part of the beloved show:

As history will tell you, Mandalorian creator Jon Favreau has never strayed from making a casting decision that was viewed as risky by some. But in most cases than not, it works out, and this has been the case for Bill Burr. Many fans were thoroughly entertained when Migs made his Star Wars debut in Season 1’s “Chapter 6: The Prisoner.” This is likely the reason Favreau brought Burr back for a Season 2, in which Mayfield was the focal point. Believe it or not, there was actually a time when the actor didn’t even think he'd be back for the second season.

While speaking with Tom Segura of the Your Mom’s House podcast, Bill Burr also wanted to set the record straight on something. During the chat, he clarified his actual feelings on Star Wars fans and the franchise as a whole:

Bill Burr also stated that he and the crew have “a blast” when working on The Mandalorian. Though Burr doesn’t say anything in regard to his future with the show, one could assume that he may be willing to return should he be asked. Migs was left in an interesting position when fans last saw him, and it certainly left the door open for him to return. Despite an unclear future with the franchise, we can probably assume that Bill Burr will continue to make jokes about Star Wars fans. But at least fans now know the jabs are merely coming from a comedic place as opposed to one of legitimate contempt.

There have been plenty of reactions to Gina Carano being fired from The Mandalorian by Lucasfilm. While there are many who stand by Lucasfilm's decision and were even behind the movement to get her fired, a number of fans seem to stand with Carano, and she has even gained a good amount of followers since the debacle. The MMA fighter-turned-actress' Mandalorian co-stars have been relatively quiet on the subject of her termination. But now, it would seem that Bill Burr, who plays Migs Mayfield on the Disney+ series, has now spoken out and shared some very blunt (and admittedly on-brand) thoughts on the situation.

The topic of Gina Carano’s firing came up in an episode of Bill Burr and Bert Kreischer’s podcast, The Bill and Bert Podcast. Burr is a comedian known for his blunt and somewhat controversial thoughts. So it makes sense that Carano’s firing could make him a little uncomfortable with his own future on The Mandalorian. During the episode, Burr says he now feels that he may have to watch what he says moving forward. Here it is in the comedian’s own words:

Bill Burr covers a lot of topics and makes jokes on controversial matters, but things may be a little different now that he’s in a major franchise like Star Wars. The Mandalorian has a huge following going into its third season, and there's a chance Burr wants to remain part of the franchise going forward. It’s a huge part for anyone, even someone as established as Burr, even if it is a bit of a genre leap for the star.

Bill Burr's desire to not rock the boat of his current place (and potential future) in the Star Wars franchise may be the reason that he intially seems to not want to delve too far into the controversy surrounding Gina Carano. However, the F is For Family star did go on to defend Carano’s character and state his belief that he could end even up under fire next. In Burr’s own words:

Bill Burr is referring to the fact that Gina Carano’s Cara Dune action figure has been pulled from shelves following her firing. Based on Burr's comments, he seems to be speaking less about the details surrounding Carano’s firing and more about cancel culture in general. Times are indeed crazy right now, with the political climate in America over the last few years in addition to the pandemic -- and how people have taken sides regarding safety regulations.

Cancel culture has been a heavily debated topic over the past several years and, while many have been critical of the effects it appears to have on some star's careers, there are those who aren't heavily affected by it. Gina Carano may have been fired from Lucasfilm and all future Star Wars franchise projects, but the nearly undefeated MMA fighter’s film career is nowhere near over. Meanwhile, Bill Burr also has a following from his comedy career so, even if we for some reason don’t see his bald head on future Star Wars projects, there's still a firm chance he'll be sticking around in Hollywood in some way.

It must have been a real treat for fans of Bill Burr to see him pop up on a dark drama like Breaking Bad, even before he really began to grow into one of the biggest names in comedy today. As for fans of The Mandalorian, it appears to have been jarring for them to hear someone in the Star Wars universe speak with a Boston accent.

Outside of the criticism from the intergalactic logic defenders, I felt the 52-year-old Massachusetts native (who has even admitted that Star Wars was never “his thing”) was surprisingly strong as former imperial soldier Migs Mayfield on the Disney+ hit. It's also refreshing to see a comic (who recently hosted Saturday Night Live for the first time, too) exceed expectations of being relegated to comic relief. Bill Burr has actually achieved that a lot more often lately, such as in the 2014 social commentary Black or White, and Jason Reitman’s political biopic The Front Runner, opposite Hugh Jackman, in 2018.

Unfortunately, neither of those films can be streamed anywhere at the moment, but there are a few other movies and TV series currently available that show a more serious side of the actor, who is as funny as he is controversial. Of course, there are plenty of options on streaming that offer that side of Bill Burr as well, including some of his most popular stand-up specials. Why It's A Good Option for Bill Burr Fans: Set in the 1970s, F is for Family is an animated, Netflix original comedy that offers a brutally honest snapshot of a middle class American household in the way only series creator Bill Burr could.

Cosmetic surgery, reality television, and the do’s and don’ts of arguments with the opposite sex are among the topics that Bill Burr presents with his uncompromising opinions while performing at the Lincoln Theater.

Why It's A Good Option for Bill Burr Fans: Netflix greenlighting F is for Family came after a few years of collaboration with Bill Burr that began in 2012 with You People Are All the Same., which was actually the streaming platform’s first original stand-up special and certainly not the last from Burr, either.

Why It's A Good Option for Bill Burr Fans: When not struggling to elude their criminal pursuers, Steve Carell and Tina Fey’s married protagonists arouse the suspicions of Taraji P. Henson’s Detective Arroyo and her partner, Bill Burr's Walsh, in 2010’s Date Night - an equally hilarious and thrilling star-studded adventure from director Shawn Levy.

At the Tabernacle in Atlanta, Georgia, Bill Burr entertains his audience with more unfiltered commentary on things like Scientology, the impossible standards of dating as promoted by romantic comedies, and his solutions to the world’s population control problem.

Why It's A Good Option for Bill Burr Fans: Speaking of “date night,” “I’m sorry you feel that way” is not something I would recommend saying on such an occasion, but, then again, few things out of Bill Burr’s mouth should be repeated to the general public. And, many things said in his second stand-up special for Netflix, shot uniquely in black and white, are no exception.

An ambitious LA news reporter (Elizabeth Banks) puts her dreams of being promoted to anchor at risk when she finds herself stranded in the city after a night of blowing off steam ends in a passionate encounter with a stranger (James Marsden).

Why It's A Good Option for Bill Burr Fans: Despite his critical views of rom-coms, 2014’s Walk of Shame is actually one of a few (the aforementioned Date Night included) which Bill Burr appears in. Coincidentally, he once again plays a cop causing problems for our protagonist during her increasingly stressful attempts to make it to a life-changing job interview.

Bill Burr: Walk Your Way Out (Netflix)

Bill Burr continues to push the limits of comedy by comparing Kanye West to Adolf Hitler, explaining why teaching gorillas sign language could be the first step of humanity’s downfall, and offering much more of his irreverent cynicism to a Nashville audience.

Why It's A Good Option for Bill Burr Fans: Even if some viewers do walk away from Walk Your Way Out in shame, that is an emotion you will undoubtedly not see on the face of Bill Burr in his third Netflix original stand-up special.

Zombeavers (Amazon Prime, Tubi)

A group of college students’ weekend of partying at a cabin near a local swamp is horrifyingly interrupted by the discovery of beavers who've turned into hungry, monstrous creatures after a toxic waste spill.

Why It's A Good Option for Bill Burr Fans: While Bill Burr only appears in one scene of Zombeavers, a 2014 cult favorite horror comedy directed by fellow stand-up Jordan Rubin, it might be the most memorable scene that does not (initially) involve mutated, semi-aquatic rodents, particularly because of his shared cameo with a particular singer/songwriter I will let you discover on your own.

Bill Burr: Paper Tiger (Netflix)

The comedian heads to the United Kingdom to complain about everything he cannot stand about modern day America, from cancel culture, cultural appropriation, and other controversies.

Why It's A Good Option for Bill Burr Fans: Bill Burr’s fourth and most recent Netflix exclusive stand-up special is called Paper Tiger, which refers to a term describing one who hides their weakness behind a threatening guise, seemingly because that is how Burr perceives much of the population these days.

Stand Up Guys (Tubi, IMDb TV, YouTube)

After serving 28 years in prison, a paroled, aging gangster’s (Al Pacino) reunion with his old partners in crime (Christopher Walken and Alan Arkin) turns bittersweet when he discovers a powerful mob boss (Mark Margolis) wants him dead.

Why It's A Good Option for Bill Burr Fans: As you can probably tell, Stand Up Guys is not about stand-up comedians, but there is a good deal of comedy in this crime thriller from director Fisher Stevens, which also stars “stand-up guy” Bill Burr as an associate of the mobster who has it out for Al Pacino’s character.

Breaking Bad (Netflix)

Why It's A Good Option for Bill Burr Fans: Outside of both appearing in Stand Up Guys, Bill Burr and Mark Margolis can both claim to have memorable recurring roles on Breaking Bad, with the comedian appearing in five episodes of the electrifying cultural phenomenon as Saul Goodman’s henchman Patrick Kuby.

Puppy Dog Pals (Disney+)

A pair of young pet siblings named Bingo (Isaac Ryan Brown) and Rolly (Sam Lavagnino) have an urge for adventure that puts them on a series of fun-filled journeys right in their backyard and beyond.

Why It's A Good Option for Bill Burr Fans: If you thought The Mandalorian was the only thing featuring Bill Burr that you could find on Disney+, think again. On the animated children’s show, Puppy Dog Pals (created by fellow edgy comic Harland Williams), he voices a bulldog named Butch who joins the pups on an adventure at sea.

The Mandalorian Season 2 was filled with lots of surprises, one of which was the return of Bill Burr's Season 1 character, Migs Mayfield. Fans were delighted to see the stand-up comedian and actor once again a part of the action, though some couldn't help but poke fun at him for keeping his distinct Boston accent for his reprisal.

Many jokes have been had about Burr's accent and how it confirms that "space Boston" exists within the Star Wars canon. Bill Burr confirmed to Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show that he has heard the chatter and jokes about his accent and, as fans may expect, he was prepared with an earful for any fans who think it's weird or unrealistic that a Star Wars character sounds like they're from Boston:

Bill Burr didn't grow up a Star Wars fan, so perhaps that's why he's so savvy to the weird parts of the franchise that fans tend to overlook. He does have a valid point that the same Star Wars fans who may take issue with his Boston accent in The Mandalorian may also overlook that many throughout the galaxy with somewhat British sounding accents, or the fact that several characters have accents from places here on Earth that potentially wouldn't exist in the Star Wars universe.

Of course, the only real answer behind this mystery is that some actors have accents, and Star Wars has a history of taking actors worldwide. As funny as it is to joke about, few Star Wars fans likely believe Migs Mayfield's Bostonian accent means there's some actual space Boston in the galaxy. With that said, if there is, I'm sure they serve up a wicked space chowder and space lobster roll.

One of the first and most notable instances of an accent in the Star Wars universe is when Princess Leia speaks during A New Hope. Carrie Fisher's way of speaking was so notable that a novel later provided an explanation for it.

The Mandalorian has become one of the most popular shows on streaming. In an era where binge-watching has become the norm, fans still watch The Mandalorian in a weekly format in order to follow the story, but that has made the show appointment television in a way that many shows are not these days. Odds are anybody even remotely interested in the adventures of The Mandalorian and his little green friend have made a point to watch every episode. Yet, it turns out that actor Bill Burr has never actually seen the show.

In a recent episode of his podcast, Bill Burr confessed he's slightly embarrassed that he hasn't seen any of Season 2 and never actually finished Season 1. He certainly plans to watch it, but he just hasn't found the time. According to Burr...

I'm sure we can cut Bill Burr a bit of slack. The holidays are rough and while a lot of us probably didn't do quite as much running around as we usually do, there's a reason a lot of series just go on hiatus that time of year, people generally don't watch. Instead, The Mandalorian goes and handles its entire run during a time of year other shows call it time for a break.

At some point, I'm sure Bill Burr will get around to getting caught up. Honestly, since he was in the second to last episode of Season 2, it's not like he doesn't know how things go over the course of the show. There's probably no feeling of urgency going on when you already know what happens. The biggest issue is that by now the finale has to have been spoiled. If you've somehow made it this far without learning what happens in the second season of the show you are clearly a Jedi master of avoiding spoilers.

Maybe Bill Burr will work to get caught up if he returns to the series in the future or ends up in one of the other shows set to take place at the same time. The return of his character in Season 2 was something of a surprise, but the way things worked out, it's certainly possible we could see him yet again in Season 3 or beyond. At least he'll know what happens in that episode, even if he has no idea what led up to it.

The Mandalorian had many exciting moments in its latest episode, including the return of comedian Bill Burr and Pedro Pascal doing an extended scene unmasked scene as Din Djarin. With so much happening in Season 2's penultimate installment, fans may have glossed over some of the smaller reveals of the episode, including the fact that Burr's Migs Mayfield was a part of Operation: Cinder.

In the episode, Mayfield runs into an old commanding officer, Valin Hess, who was a part of the operation and sacrificed his own division to destroy a city. The story gave a small account of what was a massive event in the new Star Wars canon and one that has been a bit controversial with fans in recent years. Here's more on the event touched on in The Mandalorian and why it's important to the Star Wars universe.

Operation: Cinder Was The Emperor's Contingency Plan To Destroy The Empire And Republic

Operation: Cinder took place only a few weeks after the Battle of Endor in Return of the Jedi and was said to be the Emperor's final edict in the event of his death. Palpatine believed that if he died, the Empire should die with him but also wished to take the Rebellion (future New Republic) down alongside it. The plot involved the launch of climate-disrupting satellites around key planets like Naboo, Vardos, Burnin Konn, Candovant, Abednedo, Commenor, and Nacronis. The satellites would trigger devastating storms, ultimately ravaging the key planets.

As stated, the Emperor's goal was not only to cripple the new rebellion but also to destroy the Empire that had failed to protect him. Ultimately, the idea was that Operation: Cinder would crush the hope caused by the Rebellion, as well as punish the imperial loyalists who failed to protect him following his death. His death meant the Empire was a failure and should not be allowed to survive following his exit. Ultimately, the Rebels won and believed they successfully ended the Galactic Civil War in the process.

Why Operation: Cinder Is Important To Star Wars And The Mandalorian

While the New Republic was celebrating the end of the Galactic Civil War, Empire loyalists established a foothold in the Outer Rim. Those still loyal to the Empire and its values continued to gain power, as we see with Moff Gideon and others in The Mandalorian. It's here where the seeds of the First Order are sown, which leads into the story of the sequel trilogy.

And it's because of Operation: Cinder that these loyalists are able to start their own thing. The name change to the First Order may represent the Emperor's wish to let the Empire die, despite the fact he's rebuilding it in the Unknown Regions later on.

The Controversy Of Operation: Cinder With Star Wars Fans

Operation: Cinder was first mentioned in the Marvel comic book Star Wars: Shattered Empire, and the major event that dominated the story of the EA game Star Wars Battlefront 2. Operation: Cinder seemed like a good way of initially explaining how the Empire eventually gave way to the First Order, right up until the events of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

Now that the movie has released four years after the first mention of Operation: Cinder, the whole premise seems kind of silly to some. The Emperor ordered the destruction of the Empire and yet was not actually dead and planning a new Empire in the Unknown Regions? A scorched Earth policy upon the event of his death seems on-brand with Palpatine but, in the context where he knows he can return, it seems a bit short-sighted.

Palpatine essentially ordered top commanders from beyond the grave to wage a reckless war that, by design, would devastate the Empire just as much as the Rebellion. Had the Empire held off, there could've been more forces and a better chance at maintaining a stranglehold on the outer regions of the galaxy while plotting the Emperor's return. In the Emperor's death, Operation: Cinder seems like the final cruel act of an evil man but, when it's revealed he's alive, it just seems like he's a bad strategist.

Will The Mandalorian Make Sense Of Operation: Cinder?

There was a thought that after the release of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, Operation: Cinder may be ignored or retconned. I'm personally not so sure of that and question whether or not The Mandalorian will answer some questions or present some information that will make more sense of this whole situation. We already know the Empire remnants are messing with some cloning technology, which led to the creation of Supreme Leader Snoke, as well as Emperor Palpatine.

The story we still have yet to know is who was responsible for the resurrection of Sheev Palpatine and why the final product was never quite on the level of the Emperor at his former glory. If Palpatine truly had a contingency plan for his own return, then it seems odd that he would be so upset about dying that he'd order the Empire destroyed. Perhaps some wires were crossed or the plan to bring back the Emperor was not actually one that he devised?

Obviously, we can only speculate on the answer and add that there's a chance The Mandalorian will better flesh out this entire backstory going forward. And if that series can't get the job done, there are a slew of other spinoffs on the way that will also be able to tell the story. I, for one, would love to see the meaning and goal of Operation: Cinder touched on further, if only because its latest reference only further buries it deeper into the Star Wars canon. If there's one person who's a master of expanding and making sense of canon, it's Dave Filoni, so fans shouldn't lose faith that he and Jon Favreau won't be capable of weaving this story together in a cohesive way.

After several weeks of intense, ass-kicking episodes featuring returns from major Star Wars characters, The Mandalorian pulled back on the reins slightly to deliver an episode that was just as heavy on the laughs as the action. The episode featured comedian and Star Wars non-enthusiast Bill Burr reprising his role of Mayfield, who was first introduced in Chapter 6, "The Prisoner," and previously said he wouldn't be returning for Season 2. The joke's on us!

Below are the eight funniest moments from "The Believer," with many of them tying back to Bill Burr, since he's such a naturally comedic presence within this sometimes stiff universe. Let's start things off with one of Mayfield's first lines in the opening sequence.

Mayfield's Reunion With Mando

After Mayfield was initially confused about why he was being taken away from his standard prisoner duties, he was startled at the sight of Boba Fett, first believing him to be Mando. But just when he got comfortable after realizing his mistake, down came Mando to destroy all of that comfort. The look on Mayfield's face really said it all in that moment.

"His Gloves Are Still Wet"

After Cara Dune somehow knocked those two Imperial soldiers out, despite only using her bare hands and arms, Mayfield and Mando had to change clothes Scooby-Doo-style to keep their plan going. But it sounded like Mando got the better end of the deal, as Mayfield complained that his guy reeked, and that his "gloves are still wet." I don't want to know why the gloves were wet, though I am perfectly content knowing that they were.

Mayfield Waxing Philosophical To Mando

Admittedly, this scene was "funny" more in the sense of something being unexpectedly sound in logic, as opposed to something extremely hilarious. But it was wild to hear Mayfield speaking to various belief systems of now-gone cultures, and speaking so aloofly about Mando's helmet beliefs. Considering so many things about Star Wars are accepted at face value – even when that face is hidden 95% of the time – it's nice to have a character take a moment to bring some real-world insight into the fantasticalness.

Mando's Blaster Malfunction

Instead of asking all kinds of questions about all those "pirates" attacking the transport ships, I'll instead celebrate this episode's hilarious moment where Mando's blaster just stopped working all of the sudden, just as he was taking out some of the pirates. It was great not only because it's something that barely happens in this universe, if ever, but also because it felt like a knowing nod to just how useless blasters can be in this universe, especially when Stormtroopers are wielding them.

That Pirate Bouncing Off A Tire

As fun as the broken blaster was, my favorite moment during Mando's battle atop the transport vehicle came when he whooped up on that one pirate creature before throwing him off of the side and into the rolling tire. One, it was an awesome move that presumably would have been painful AF for that character . And two, while it's not the easiest to hear, that pirate lets loose with a hilarious high-pitched scream as he hits the tire and falls to the ground. The fact that it's not more pronounced in the sound mixing makes it all the more amusing.

Valin Hess Falling For Mayfield's Ruse

No one in Star Wars history is worse at reading a room than Richard Blake's Valin Hess, and his blind faith in Mayfield's lies makes me wonder how in the hell he rose in the Empire's ranks. In any case, the best moment during Hess' sequence came after Mayfield fed him the lie about Mando having hearing problems, and Hess very loudly asks, "WHAT'S YOUR NAME, OFFICER?" The sincerity behind the question almost made me feel sorry for him, but only after I laughed at him judgmentally, of course.

That Office Space Reference

After Mayfield fooled Valin Hess with his lies, he attempted to take Mando out of the situation by saying the following...

While obviously another one of Mayfield's lies, this one is actually an unexpected pop culture reference. TPS reports – or "Test Procedure Specification" reports – were the dreaded and outwardly pointless job duty that was spoken about multiple times in Mike Judge's classic 1999 satire Office Space. Let's just hope Mayfield would have remembered to make a cover sheet before sending his reports in.

The Moments After Mayfield Shot Hess

To speak again of Valin Hess' inability to grasp the mood of others around him, he was clearly unaware of Mayfield's growing anger over their conversation about Operation Cinder, and thus was not set up to avoid being shot to death. As dark as that moment could have been, The Mandalorian followed it up with a few seconds of chuckle-worthy confusion passing from Mando to Mayfield and then onto the trooper that cluelessly walked into the mess hall. Dude was probably thinking he was about to sit down for a meal and maybe some coffee to help get him through the day, but he instead got immediately blasted.

With only one episode left to go before viewers discover the fate of "the little green guy" known to some as Grogu, and to many others as Baby Yoda, The Mandalorian gave viewers one last side mission to watch Mando take care of before he'll presumably taking on Moff Gideon in some kind of an explosive showdown. Amusingly enough, the mission paired Pedro Pascal's hero with Bill Burr's sprung-from-prison Mayfield, which made for quite a few interesting conversations throughout the runtime of "The Believer." But most importantly, the episode allowed Mando several chances to prove exactly how much Baby Yoda means to him.

Let's take a closer look at the two biggest ways that Mando showcased his adoration and protective fatherly love for Baby Yoda. And it all would have been 100% more adorable, too, if it wasn't for Richard Brake's meddling Imperial officer Valin Hess, who made everything feel slimy just by looking at it. (Definitely an excellent performance, though, from the Absentia and Game of Thrones vet.)

Mando Had To Remove His Mask, And He Didn't Hesitate

Naturally, the five characters' trip to the planet Morak was extremely problematic, thanks initially to a bunch of "pirates" with thermal detonators attempting to blow up the transport vehicle that Mando and Mayfield commandeered. (So much suspended disbelief during this sequence.) But then things got complicated on a much more minute and personal level when the duo made it inside the Imperial mining base. The tech hub needed to determine Moff Gideon's ship coordinates required a facial scan as a security check, and of course Mayfield wasn't able to do it himself. Which only left Mando, who'd already been forced to remove his signature helmet in order to pose as one of the transport troopers.

Here's the thing, though. While Mando might have made a bigger spectacle of having to take his helmet off earlier this season, he barely made a peep when Mayfield chided him about his mask situation earlier in the episode. Plus, Mando rather quickly volunteered to get the coordinates himself after Mayfield balked, knowing full well he'd need to have his face scanned in order to succeed. I won't say our brave hero was especially eager to take the mask off, but it seemed clear he went into that base fully aware how decent the chances were that he'd have to show his face at some point.

Perhaps Mando was content with removing his mask given all of the things that he's learned about his family's past from Katee Sackoff's Bo-Katan, as well as Boba Fett's own past. Perhaps he realized that one of the biggest rules in his life was more self-imposed than anything else. But even if those notions are indeed true, Mando's decision to show his face was The Mandalorian's most logical story-based proof that the character will now do just about anything in order to ensure Baby Yoda's safety. Awww, you guys! [Insert emoji of heart bursting at the seams with love.]

Mando Went All Liam Neeson In Threatening Moff Gideon

While it has been made clear that Mando is willing to punch, kick and blow up whatever it takes to keep The Child safe, he has more often than not been forced to play defense against opposing forces. But in the final moments of "The Believer," Mando showed off his bottomless gall by sending a threatening hologram message to Giancarlo Esposito's Moff Gideon, which is the kind of move you usually see from a revenge-fueled parent (or spouse) in an action-thriller. Seriously, Mando was essentially Liam Neeson from Taken in that moment, and I'm almost surprised he didn't bring up all the special skills that he can use to get Baby Yoda back.

Rather than borrowing dialogue from any of the Taken films, however, The Mandalorian much more poetically had Mando echoing Moff Gideon's own words about Baby Yoda back at the devious villain. In my mind, that's a completely badass (though possibly naive) move that proves not only to audiences but also to Gideon and his henchmen that Mando's bond with Baby Yoda is unbreakable and worth protecting at all costs. Especially from people who want to exploit the creature's midi-chlorian organics. Here's how Mando put it:

I'm sure that any message sent by Mando would have pissed Moff Gideon off, but the villain hearing his own words thrown back at him was as much of an insult as getting threatened in the first place. Surely, Mando, Boba Fett, Fennec and Cara could have had a solid shot at setting up a secret attack on Gideon's ship, but the titular character obviously wanted to make a clear statement to his nemesis that he's not afraid to step up and take back what was stolen. (Or Grogu-napped, in this case.)

There's no way Mando would have pulled either of the aforementioned moves at any point in Season 1, but his bond with Baby Yoda has definitely evolved in big ways throughout Season 2, and it's going to be a strange situation whenever the li'l dude goes away for Jedi training and Mando doesn't have to keep him safe anymore. Is there even a show at that point?

One of scripted television's longest-running institutions, Saturday Night Live, is headed back into production and returning to the studio after its unexpected time airing with pre-taped skits from cast members' homes at the end of last season. While fans certainly admired the desire of the cast and crew to keep the good ship SNL afloat as much as possible under some trying circumstances, you can bet that viewers will be looking to see the legendary skitcom return to something much more like normal in Season 46. With new announcements on who will be hosting and performing as musical guests, it looks like all of our dreams will be coming true.

Every year brings an assorted number of wonders for those who love SNL. We tune in each week for the promise of laughs, fun surprises, wild satire, the occasional shocking (or shockingly funny) screw up and to see what kind of silliness the guest hosts (and possibly musical guests) will be roped into while trying to deliver the funniest possible show. This season will see Kenan Thompson head into his eighteenth season on the live show, further cementing his place as the longest-running cast member for SNL ever, but this promises to be a banner year for the series in other ways, as well.

This is, after all, an election year, and those behind Saturday Night Live are nothing if not truly gifted when it comes to both lampooning politicians and also casting said political figures for the show. We already know that (after sounding like he was totally done with putting in the effort) Alec Baldwin will return yet again to step into the presidential shoes of Donald Trump, a role that won him an Emmy in 2017, with former cast member Maya Rudolph reprising her Emmy-winning part as Kamala Harris.

Word also came down recently that they'll be joined by Jim Carrey, who will take over the part of Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden from another former cast member, Jason Sudeikis. Who knows, with the way these special guest appearances are going, we might be treated to Brad Pitt's Dr. Anthony Fauci again. By the way, Pitt's performance also got an Emmy nod this year, so if we see a lot more special guests coming in to play real life people, I wouldn't be surprised.

Meanwhile, we do have our first announcement of who will host and act as musical guest on the Season 46 premiere of SNL, and you really can't be mad at who was chosen. Hot! Hot! Hot! Chris Rock, of course, is another former cast member, having hit the SNL stage weekly from 1990 to 1993. The actor / comedian / talk show host has been back to lead the festivities at his old stomping grounds twice before, and is funny to his bones, so you know he'll bring his best on opening night. Rapper Megan Thee Stallion is coming off of several hits, including this summer's naughty scorcher "WAP," with Cardi B, and this will be her first time on SNL.

October 10 - Bill Burr With Musical Guest Jack White

Comedian and actor Bill Burr will make his SNL debut on October 10. The Monday Morning Podcast host was most recently seen in The King of Staten Island with Pete Davidson, and The Mandalorian, and his animated family sitcom, F is for Family, will be back for a fifth and final season on Netflix. After a bit of a shakeup, Jack White will step in to act as musical guest on the episode, marking his fourth time rocking the halls of 30 Rock.

October 17 - Issa Rae With Musical Guest Justin Bieber

The star, executive producer, and creator of the HBO hit comedy Insecure, Issa Rae, will mark her SNL hosting debut on October 17. Joining Rae on the show will be Justin Bieber, who will appear as musical guest for the fourth time.

October 24 - Adele With Musical Guest H.E.R.

Music superstar Adele makes her hosting debut on Saturday Night Live with the October 24, episode, after previously acting as musical guest way back in October 2008, and again in November 2015. Ten-time Grammy Award nominee H.E.R. (who won two of the awards in 2019) will make her debut as musical guest on the same night.

October 31 - John Mulaney With Musical Guest The Strokes

Comedian and former SNL writer John Mulaney will hit the stage to host for the fourth time on October 31. Rockers The Strokes will also perform for the fourth time.

November 7 - Dave Chappelle With Musical Guest Foo Fighters

Dave Chappelle returns for his second hosting gig, having previously hit the stage right after the 2016 presidential election. The Foo Fighters will perform as musical guests, for what will be the band's eighth time appearing.

November 14 through 28 - No New SNL Episodes

December 5 - Jason Bateman With Musical Guest Morgan Wallen

Ozark and The Outsider star Jason Bateman will return to host when the show comes back from a three-week break on December 5. This will be Bateman's second time in the job; he last hosted in February 2005. Country music star Morgan Wallen is scheduled as musical guest, after being booted off of the second episode this season when producers found out he hadn't been following their new production guidelines.

December 12 - Timothée Chalamet With Musical Guest Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band

Dune's Timothée Chalamet is coming to host SNL for his first time on December 12, while Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band will be along for their third performance.

December 19 - Kristen Wiig With Musical Guest Dua Lipa

Former cast member Kristen Wiig returns for her fourth hosting gig on December 19, with her starring role as Cheetah in Wonder Woman 1984 heading to HBO Max (and theaters) on Christmas Day. Meanwhile, pop superstar Dua Lipa will hit SNL for the second time.

January 30 - John Krasinski With Musical Guest Machine Gun Kelly

Everyone's favorite prankster from The Office (and star of Jack Ryan and A Quiet Place), John Krasinski, will host when the series returns for the first episode of the new year. Singer/rapper/actor Machine Gun Kelly will appear as musical guest for the first time.

February 6 - Dan Levy With Musical Guest Phoebe Bridgers

Schitt's Creek co-creator/actor Dan Levy will host SNL for the first time on February 6. Rock/indie folk singer Phoebe Bridgers appears as musical guest.

February 13 - Regina King With Musical Guest Nathaniel Rateliff

Oscar, Golden Globe, and four-time Emmy Award winner Regina King will step on the 30 Rock stage for the first time on February 13. Folk and R&B artist Nathaniel Rateliff will perform.

February 20 - Regé-Jean Page With Musical Guest Bad Bunny

Breakout Bridgerton star Regé-Jean Page hosts SNL for the first time, and will appear alongside musical guest, rapper, Bad Bunny.

That's right, the actor/singer, known for films like Jumanji: The Next Level and Midway, hosts the last episode of February, and will also appear as musical guest.

Former SNL cast member Maya Rudolph returns to her old stomping grounds to host for the second time on March 27. Rapper Jack Harlow will hit the stage as musical guest.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk will make his debut as SNL guest host for the first episode of May, as the series begins to wind down Season 46. Musk proved to be a rather controversial choice, so we'll see how his inaugural hosting gig goes. He'll be joined by musical guest Miley Cyrus, who's making her fifth appearance as either musical guest or host.

May 15 - Keegan-Michael Key With Musical Guest Olivia Rodrigo

Emmy winner and all around funny guy Keegan-Michael Key will mark his first time hosting SNL on May 15. Meanwhile, another newcomer, singer/actress Olivia Rodrigo will act as musical guest for the first time.

While Judd Apatow is a talented writer, it’s no secret that he is a massive fan of improvisation. What’s put on paper is important for structure, plot, and character arcs in his movies, but he is also a big believer in on-set magic, and in the production phase of all of his projects he has actors make up material on the day and is known to frequently throw out ideas from behind the camera. There is much less specific emphasis put on the details of his scripts – which is why Bill Burr, during the making of the recent The King Of Staten Island, felt comfortable changing up his methodology during the making of the film, and within a couple weeks on set found himself taking a different approach than normal to the screenplay.

With the new comedy set to hit the physical home video market following its PVOD release this summer, I had the pleasure of hopping on the phone to talk with Bill Burr earlier this month about his performance and working with Judd Apatow, and he was perfectly candid with me when I inquired about the improv experience on an Apatow set. I specifically asked about his relationship with the script during production and if he found himself paying less strict attention to it over the course of filming, and he didn’t exactly play coy about it:

While this is the first time I’ve asked an actor in a Judd Apatow movie about this, would anyone be surprised if this is common practice? Obviously it’s the responsibility of any performer to know and understand the material, but if the person running the whole operation is going off book for the majority of scenes, letting the camera roll, and trusting funny people to be funny, it makes sense that one would not treat every word on the page like holy scripture.

In The King Of Staten Island, which was co-written by Pete Davidson and Judd Apatow, Bill Burr plays Ray Bishop – a firefighter who enters the life of protagonist Scott Carlin (Davidson) when the wayward 20-something gives Ray’s son what ends up being an aborted tattoo. Ray finds out where Scott lives to get some kind of an explanation, but things take a turn when he meets Scott’s mom, Margie (Marisa Tomei), and the two fall for one another. Unfortunately it’s not a relationship that Scott fully condones, primarily because his father was a firefighter who died during a call.

All in all, the film is actually one of the more dramatic features that Judd Apatow has made, but Bill Burr, who is best known as a stand-up, proves wonderfully adept with the dramatic material (a skill he’s previously demonstrated on Breaking Bad and movies like The Front Runner). He also gets some great laughs, though, and further in the discussion about all of the improvisation on set he promised access to extra material that didn’t make the final cut on the home video release.

The Mandalorian Season 1 featured an impressive cast that was headed by Pedro Pascal and included newer names like Gina Carano and veterans like Carl Weathers. Aside from the main players, the show also included guest appearances from the likes of Ming-Na Wen and Clancy Brown. The season also featured a memorable guest spot from comedian Bill Burr, who played mercenary Mayfield. But those expecting to see the character return in Season 2 are in for a disappointment.

When asked if he be returning to do more on The Mandalorian, Bill Burr confirmed that he currently has no plans to return, meaning that he likely won’t be featured in Season 2. As of right now, it would appear that Burr doesn’t actually have much lined up:

Bill Burr sounded very adamant when speaking with Vulture, so it doesn’t seem as though he’s covering up a possible secret appearance from Mayfield in The Mandalorian Season 2.

Mayfield was introduced in The Mandalorian’s sixth installment, “Chapter 6: The Prisoner,” as a former Imperial sharpshooter. In the episode, he leads Mando and a team of mercenaries on a mission to free a prisoner from a New Republic transport ship. Along the way, he and Mando clash repeatedly before Mayfield and the others betray him. However, Mando manages to overcome their betrayal and ultimately leaves them alive but locked in a cell on the ship.

Burr himself was actually not a Star Wars fan before joining The Mandalorian and had actually teased the fanbase on a number of occasions. Jon Favreau knew this when he approached Burr about the role and thought this would make his casting more amusing. Burr accepted and ultimately became impressed with the production. His performance as Mayfield was well received by fans, but some critics criticized it, calling his character underdeveloped.

Although Bill Burr won’t be reprising his role during the second season, fans will still be able to look forward to a number of new faces when the show returns. This includes Rosario Dawson’s Ahsoka Tano, Katee Sackhoff’s Bo-Katan and Temuera Morrison’s Boba Fett. Needless to say, viewers won’t be left wanting when it comes to characters.

It honestly would have been nice to know that Bill Burr will be returning for The Mandalorian Season 2, but that doesn’t necessarily mean we won’t ever see him again. Not only was Mayfield left alive, but he seemed to be more upset than ever with Din Djarin after being left aboard the ship. There’s always a chance he and the others found their way out and are now aiming to hunt down the titular character for revenge. Of course, we’ll just have to wait and see how things pan out.

The Mandalorian Season 2 is slated to premiere on Disney+ this fall.

At the start of the grand experiment known as Disney+, The Mandalorian stood as a bold effort that bridged the gap between the galaxy far far away in theaters and the home viewing experience. Eight chapters later, the world is hooked on this huge streaming hit, with a second season on the way by the end of the year.

While we obviously don’t know what’s going to happen in this new season, we do know some of the characters and actors we’ll be seeing when Season 2 starts streaming. In anticipation of those new episodes that seem so close, yet so far far away, we’re going to run down who’s confirmed to be back and what we might see from them.

Let’s start with the most obvious confirmation for The Mandalorian cast:

Pedro Pascal – The Mandalorian

You can’t have The Mandalorian without Din Djarin himself returning to protect The Child. Pedro Pascal is back for Season 2, and from the sound of things it’s going to be just as punishing and rewarding a season for him as it was during those first eight episodes. Which is awesome, because quite a few other cast members are following him into the fray once more.

Gina Carano – Cara Dune

Also returning for Season 2 of The Mandalorian is actor Gina Carano, whose character Cara Dune had joined the Bounty Hunters' Guild after the events of Season 1’s finale. A former Imperial trooper, Dune has shown promise when it comes to turning towards the light. However, fans are worried that Cara won’t make it out of Season 2, as Carano’s social media posts after wrapping this round seem to hint that may be the case.

Carl Weathers – Greef Carga

A representative of the Bounty Hunters' Guild, Greef Carga was first seen giving bounties in The Mandalorian. Eventually siding with the titular bounty hunter, after some rocky dealings throughout Season 1, Carl Weathers’ character is built into the core team that looks to be moving forward in Season 2. Weathers has returned for this new season, and we might get a little more of his backstory this time out. Just don’t expect the full Bantha, if we do get anything at all.

Bill Burr – Mayfield

Here’s something folks might not have expected any time soon: Bill Burr’s traitorous criminal/fan favorite Mayfield has recently been confirmed as returning for The Mandalorian in this next season as well! Locked up with some of Mando’s former criminal pals after the events of “Chapter 6: The Prisoner”, it always felt like vengeance would be visited upon our rough edged hero. Now we know that at least one party will be returning for their pound of flesh, as per a recent item in Deadline.

Giancarlo Esposito – Moff Gideon

Some people can walk into a room and command every molecule of oxygen, they’re just that commanding. Giancarlo Esposito, both as an actor and as The Mandalorian’s Moff Gideon, has always had that ability, which makes his confirmed return to Season 2 all the more exciting. Though when your character cuts through the hull of a TIE Fighter with a Darksaber, you’re kind of begging to be brought back for more action; even if, according to a recent IMDb interview, Esposito has wrecked quite a few sabers while filming.

Rosario Dawson – Ahsoka Tano

You may have heard this news already, so feel free to skip on if you’re not excited about Ahsoka Tano joining The Mandalorian’s cast. But for the rest of you, one of the biggest pieces of news in recent weeks has been that Rosario Dawson will be playing the first live-action incarnation of this crucial Clone Wars character. Again, we don’t know what she’ll be doing in Season 2, but that won’t stop us from freaking out with excitement over what this could mean for the overall Star Wars universe.

Michael Biehn

Dude. DUUUUUDE! Someone’s been reading our thoughts, because when you think of grizzled excellence in cinema, Michael Biehn is one of those badasses you just need to bring along for the ride. And with The Mandalorian trading in the exact field of grizzle excellence, the fact that Biehn has been cast in Season 2 is so exciting, we don’t care what he’s doing or who he’s playing? Well, maybe that’s not totally true, but for now we’re still pretty high off of this news, as we’re hoping that not only will we see Michael Biehn as another stalwart bounty hunter, but that maybe this will be a signal that those reports of Robert Rodriguez doing some work on Season 2 are absolutely true.

As you can see, the excitement of The Mandalorian Season 2 is starting to pick up, and it's only going to continue through to whenever the next round of stories premieres later this year. In the meantime, we'll be rewatching Season 1 to start forming even more theories of what's going to happen next, and we encourage you to do the same! Everyone and their brother has an opinion on Star Wars. The space opera saga has become an indelible piece of our pop culture lexicon. There are folks out there who can name characters in this well-established franchise quicker than they can recall the names of their own family members, and the legacy of George Lucas' creation continues with the recent premiere of Disney+'s The Mandalorian, which has largely received a warm response.

But just because you're a part of a well-beloved, world (or should we say galaxy)-recognized, highly lucrative franchise doesn't mean you have to love the property or its legacy — as the glittery cast of the streaming series has proven several times throughout the press cycle for the much-hyped show.

That's right, there are at least a few cast members of the popular new streaming series who have gone on record to say that they're not the biggest Star Wars fans. That's not necessarily uncommon. Alec Guinness, i.e. Obi-Wan Kenobi in the original Star Wars, famously detested the hit movie. And there are several folks involved with the Star Wars prequels who have gone on to say not-very-nice things about those contested prequels, including Ewan McGregor. What is it with the Obi-Wans? No matter.

The point is, you don't have to love Star Wars to show up on set and make your presence known in the ever-growing franchise. And that's not to say that everyone involved dislikes Star Wars. Far from it, in fact. Let's take a moment to see what the cast of The Mandalorian has to say about Star Wars, based on collected interviews and various other discussions forms with the ensemble.

Bill Burr (TBA)

Bill Burr is perfectly blunt when it comes to his opinions. It's one of the many reasons why people love him. The irreverent comedian isn't shy about speaking his mind, even if it goes against the general consensus, and that's certainly true about Star Wars. The comic has been open about his total disregard for the Star Wars franchise, admitting that he didn't watch the movies as a child and never got the fandom when he later watched them as an adult. Burr was particularly volatile against the space saga franchise when he appeared on Conan in 2015, mere days before The Force Awakens stormed its way into the world. Check out his heightened appearance:

As someone who has publicly dismissed both Star Wars and its fanbase, it's surprising — to say the least — that Bill Burr wound up playing a part in such a prominent new Star Wars project. Nevertheless, as the actor/comedian revealed in the podcast The Last Laugh, Michael Binder, the director of his Netflix special Paper Tiger, is friends with The Mandalorian's showrunner Jon Favreau.

The comedian and the writer/director then wound up at a birthday party together, where Jon Favreau revealed that he had a role in the series that would be a good fit for Bill Burr. The comedian was upfront about his history of making fun of Star Wars, but Favreau said he would be funny if he decided to join for that reason. Once Burr agreed to do it though, his tune started to change. He claimed that the show is "so fucking badass." So whether or not Burr likes Star Wars, he's happy to be doing The Mandalorian. Furthermore, Bill Burr claimed in a separate interview with Metro that he isn't actually that negative on the franchise. In fact, the comedian admits that he's actually "a fan."

So basically, the comedian just ballooned anything negative he had to say for his bits because he wanted to get a rise of people. Classic Bill Burr.

Gina Carano (Cara Dune)

Gina Carano has scored some major parts over the years in movies like Haywire and Deadpool, to name a mere couple, but the former MMA fighter received her biggest acting role to date in Disney+'s The Mandolorian playing the character Cara Dune. The athlete-turned-actress is extremely excited for the opportunity, and Carano claimed in an interview with Us Magazine that she believes Star Wars is such a humungous part of pop culture for a damn good reason, particularly since nearly everyone connects with the legacy and the themes in some fashion or another (besides Bill Burr, naturally).

Gina Carano said she would likely have taken any part that was given to her just to be in this universe, but when she saw what Jon Favreau had in mind for her, she cried with excitement. Here's hoping fans get that emotional for her character's arc this season.

Taika Waititi (IG-11)

Taika Waititi is better known for his work as a filmmaker, especially at the helm of movies like What We Do In The Shadows, Thor: Ragnarok, and, most recently, Jojo Rabbit. But as anyone who has seen those projects will know, Waititi is an actor as well, and he provides his voice to the role of IG-11 in The Mandolorian. The New Zealand multi-talent was incredibly honored for the opportunity to appear in this Star Wars series

Taika Waititi also expressed his vast appreciation for the opportunity to direct an episode of The Mandalorian, in addition to lending his voice to this key role, in that same interview. He further told Joe.ie that he'd love the opportunity to direct a Star Wars movie as well, should he be given the keys to such a major property. Just imagine Star Wars characters with Ragnarok-esque insanity.

Werner Herzog (The Client)

The man, the myth, and the legend Werner Herzog is one of arthouse cinema's greatest treasures. That's what makes his odd involvement in The Mandalorian all the more perplexing... and fascinating, especially for movie lovers. Who could possibly imagine in their wildest dreams the absurd thought of Herzog appearing in a Star Wars project? Nevertheless, the auteur is involved, and he made a hell of an impression in the first episode. But it shouldn't be too surprising that the German director doesn't necessarily have a long, lasting relationship to the Star Wars movies.

Sure enough, the famed filmmaker admitted in a Variety interview that his familiarity with the science fantasy property and the work of showrunner Jon Favreau was low before he agreed to appear in this new Disney+ streaming series. But he also admitted that it wasn't due to a lack of interest. Rather, Werner Herzog says he prefers to dive into a book rather than go to the movies, even despite his established career as a hard-working filmmaker. Also, it should be noted that Herzog doesn't believe that watching the movie and diving into the thick lore of Star Wars was necessary to play this new part.

That said, in a later interview with Deadline, Werner Herzog went on to say that he considered The Mandalorian to be "cinema at its best." So the legendary German filmmaker clearly was appreciative of the work he was doing in the streaming exclusive series. He also praised the big vision of showrunner Jon Favreau. Therefore, even though he might not be familiar with the franchise or Favreau's other movies, he clearly liked the work done.

Carl Weathers (Greef Karga)

A veteran actor with a prolific career, Carl Weathers is an immense talent, and he's one of the many actors who appear in The Mandolorian. But where does he stand on Star Wars? Admittedly, his relationship with George Lucas' famous property is a little more in-depth compared to Bill Burr and Werner Herzog. In an interview with Extra Butter, Weathers admitted that he saw the original movie in San Fransisco, and the actor thinks it's "cool" to be part of such a major franchise several years later.

Carl Weathers claims that being involved in Star Wars means that you're in "the capsule" of pop culture, and that he'll live forever thanks to his involvement with such a major property. That would already be the case with something like Rocky, though. Here's what Carl Weathers said in an interview with ComicBook.com.

Moreover, Carl Weathers is not only taken aback by his involvement in the Star Wars property, but by Jon Favreau's vision as well. He's really impressed with what The Mandalorian was able to accomplish so far, and the actor feels honored to be involved with something this massive in scope and scale.

Pedro Pascal (The Mandalorian)

It's always a big deal when you get the lead role in a new Star Wars property. Sure enough, Pedro Pascal was given the opportunity to lead The Mandalorian in Disney+'s first original Star Wars series. The only catch is, he'll need to wear a helmet over his head for at least the majority of the show's runtime. Count your blessings, one supposes. Regardless, it's an incredibly thrilling and humbling opportunity for the Game of Thrones actor.

Pedro Pascal certainly agrees with that sentiment. He expressed his wealth of appreciation for the cast and crew during the final days of shooting on his Instagram page. Moreover, he admitted that he's a fan of the franchise, particularly when he admitted in an interview with Disney 23 Magazine (via ComicBookMovie.com) that when he first met with Jon Favreau, he thought he would be offered the part of another famed bounty hunter. In his words:

It may not be Boba Fett, but it's a grand opportunity for the rising actor nonetheless, and Pascal is happy for this privilege.

These are only a few of the actors involved with The Mandolorian, and we're sure everyone involved has their own respective opinions on the franchise and it's long-standing legacy. Whether or not they love Star Wars, everyone involved hopes that you take the time to check out this show on Disney+ while waiting for other great shows to arrive.

As the first series to launch on Disney+, there’s a lot of pressure for The Mandalorian to be good. The first 30 minutes of the new series, set in the Star Wars universe, was recently screened to members of the press and first impressions have been overwhelmingly positive. With the trailer release, however, fans have become super obsessed with one character in particular.

While the first trailer for The Mandalorian dazzled viewers with its special effects, which were a big part of the series’ budget of $120 million, the second trailer unveiled the mysterious identity of another bounty hunter. It was a surprise when comedian and actor Bill Burr showed up in the trailer, shooting off two blasters at an unknown enemy.

Although he’s only in it for a few seconds, Bill Burr looks like he’s having the time of his life. His appearance in the trailer was definitely unexpected, but if fan reactions are anything to go by, then Disney was smart to keep his role under wraps.

Over on Twitter, many celebrated the fact that Bill Burr was going to be in The Mandalorian, though the name of his character has yet to be released.

Meanwhile, another fan cited Bill Burr as the reason they would even watch The Mandalorian. I'm sure Disney will be thrilled to hear of this particular reaction.

Another fan was shocked that Lucasfilm even pulled off putting Bill Burr in the trailer at all, but hey, if nothing else, Disney has always been good at keeping secrets.

Once fans spotted the actor in the two seconds he was onscreen, it was all anyone could talk about. Still, little is known about Bill Burr’s role so far, beyond what was shown in the trailer. However, as the series draws closer to its premiere date, it’s likely that Disney will release even more footage and information surrounding the character.

The Mandalorian is set after the events of Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, but long before Star Wars: The Force Awakens. It’s exciting because a series like this expands this fictional universe beyond what’s already been shown in the films and offers a glimpse into what happened prior to the First Order’s rise to power.

The series comes from renowned director Jon Favreau, whose work on the live-action adaptations of The Jungle Book and The Lion King helped shape the exemplary special effects used for The Mandalorian.

The series, which consists of eight episodes, is described as being “unique” by Star Wars’ Dave Filoni in that the Mandalorian character is just a regular guy trying to survive daily life in the galaxy. It’s definitely a storyline the series has yet to explore and, given how focused the main films have been on the Jedi, it’ll be nice to see a more grounded Star Wars story.

Still, expect a lot of big action sequences and for Pedro Pascal to rarely take off his Mandalorian helmet. Otherwise, Disney seems invested in the series. That’s evidenced by the lucrative budget and the fact that the studio has renewed The Mandalorian for Season 2, which has already begun filming.

The first episode of The Mandalorian Season 1 will be available to watch on Disney+ when the new streaming service launches on November 12.

Better Call Saul has brought back a bunch of Breaking Bad characters (and the actors that played them) for the Saul Goodman-centric origin story, and the upcoming El Camino movie will reveal what happened to Aaron Paul's Jesse Pinkman following the Breaking Bad finale. Sadly, we now have to rule out the return of one Breaking Bad character: Kuby, played by Bill Burr.

The actor himself confirmed that he won't appear in Better Call Saul or El Camino during an appearance on The Rich Eisen Show. Bill Burr shared why he won't be around and how close he came to rejoining to Breaking Bad universe:

Apparently, Bill Burr was slated for an appearance back in the Breaking Bad universe, but the timing didn't work out for personal reasons. If he had appeared when Kuby would have fit into the story, then he wouldn't have been able to say goodbye to somebody in his life who was dying. Who can blame him for making the choice he did, as nice as it would have been to see Kuby in the flesh again on Better Call Saul?

That said, Bill Burr was clearly sad that he wasn't able to join another Vince Gilligan project. Gilligan created and executive produced Breaking Bad and then went on to create and executive produce Better Call Saul. Breaking Bad was a very high-profile show for an actor who hadn't done much to land him in the spotlight as a serious performer.

Although Kuby certainly wasn't a main character, he and his dynamic with Lavell Crawford as Huell were memorable and entertaining. Crawford did appear on a few episodes of Better Call Saul, and it's possible the show will run longer than originally expected.

While star Bob Odenkirk once suggested the spinoff shouldn't last longer than Breaking Bad, perhaps it will, and perhaps that would give another opportunity for Kuby to appear! We can always hope. When asked if he considered Vince Gilligan the reason for his acting career because Gilligan cast him in Breaking Bad, Bill Burr went on to say this:

Breaking Bad was quite celebrated by fans, critics, and major awards shows throughout its five seasons on the air, so it's understandable Bill Burr believes Vince Gilligan is credited for Burr's acting career.

The show is responsible for proving Bryan Cranston is a skilled dramatic actor after his years on Malcolm in the Middle, more or less launched Aaron Paul's career, and showcased Anna Gunn in a new way, not to mention push Bob Odenkirk into the spotlight with a role that would result in Odenkirk starring in his own series.

Better Call Saul hasn't yet received a premiere date for Season 5, but the El Camino Jesse Pinkman movie premieres Friday, October 11 at 12:01 a.m. PT on Netflix. The trailer is intense and proves that poor Jesse wasn't fated for a happily-ever-after following the end of Breaking Bad.

As The Mandolorian gears up for its debut on Disney+ this November, the show's cast members are opening up more about the upcoming series and what Star Wars has meant to them growing up. Some actors have a deep relationship with the franchise and many positive memories of it from their childhood, and then there's Bill Burr.

Bill Burr grew up in all three eras of Star Wars, and is not a fan. He's since embraced the fact that he never got on the hype train, and has made fun of the franchise and its fans over the years. So, what's Burr's problem with Star Wars?

Bill Burr is a comedian who lives off ruffling feathers, and making fun of Star Wars can ruffle a lot of feathers. With that being said, Burr was aware that being the anti-Star Wars fan he was, he may anger quite a few folks by agreeing to appear in the first live-action series for the franchise. Burr told The Rich Eisen Show he mentioned this concern to friend Jon Favreau, who argued fans may find it humorous that someone anti-Star Wars would play a part in its legacy.

While Bill Burr wouldn't say he was completely on board with the franchise or its movies, he did say he was pretty psyched when he stepped on the set of The Mandalorian. Burr especially liked the fact the series is being shot like a Spaghetti Western, and had a darker tone than one might expect from the tone of the average Star Wars film. Of course, Burr ultimately said he knows little about Star Wars, and to take his opinion with that in mind.

Long story short, Bill Burr may be at the red carpet for The Mandalorian, but don't expect to see him showing up for opening weekend of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. The final chapter in the Skywalker saga is in theaters Friday, December 20. In the six years since Breaking Bad exited AMC as one of the most critically acclaimed TV dramas of all time, creator Vince Gilligan expanded that universe in huge ways with Better Call Saul (and its co-creator Peter Gould), but fans will finally make an official return to Breaking Bad's world with the upcoming AMC and Netflix TV project El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie. Who else will be returning, though?

Given the high security surrounding El Camino, whose production wasn't even officially confirmed until Bob Odenkirk only recently mentioned that it got filmed months ago, fans have yet to learn all of the Breaking Bad cast members that will be showing up for the TV movie. In fact, the movie's first teaser trailer didn't even use Aaron Paul's Jesse Pinkman, despite the fact that the project centers on him in the time after he escaped the meth-obsessed neo-Nazis. (Paul said fans are going to be pumped, though.)

The only O.G. Breaking Bad character who appeared in the trailer was Skinny Pete, as portrayed by Charles Baker, and he wasn't giving up Jesse's location. So let's go over most of the Breaking Bad characters beyond Jesse and Skinny Pete who might show up in the El Camino movie, starting with the obvious third leg of that grouping.

Badger - Matt Jones

Assuming he isn't off helping the Star Trek creative team plan their next adventures, Breaking Bad's Badger almost has to return for El Camino in order to bring closure to his friendship with Jesse Pinkman. Not to mention his tangential relationship with Walter White, whom Badger and Skinny Pete assisted in the Breaking Bad finale to pose as hitmen in order to secure Walt Jr. received Walt's moolah. If for no other reason, Matt Jones' Badger needs to return in order to potentially serve as the presumably lone source of El Camino's broad humor.

Brock Cantillo - Ian Posada

As one of Breaking Bad's most innocent characters, Brock (and his mother Andrea, by extension) represented a shot at traditional domestic life for Jesse. Of course, Walt ruined that by poisoning Brock (non-lethally) in order to turn Jesse against Gus, and then Todd later murdered Andrea, putting a permanent end to that potential normalcy. Actor Ian Posada might be too old to reprise the role of Brock, depending on what the El Camino timeline will be, but it's hard to imagine Jesse avoiding any attempts to contact Brock, who would presumably be in the care of his grandmother.

Mr. And Mrs. Pinkman - Michael Bofshever and Tess Harper

If the cops are after Aaron Paul's Jesse Pinkman in El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie, then they're likely going to have to hit up his parents. Grated, it'll likely only be to discovery that the Pinkmans cut Jesse out of their lives. They kicked him out of his house (that they owned) when the mom discovered his basement meth lab, and the parents cut ties with him permanently in Season 3 after he anonymously bought the house from them. But would they still be so against him if they knew just how tortured his life became? (As well, we might see an appearance from Jesse's brother Jake, though he only showed up for a single episode in Breaking Bad's original run.)

Skyler White - Anna Gunn

Jesse and Skyler were about as unconnected as two main characters could be in Breaking Bad, but even though Walt initially attempted to keep her innocent of everything in the meth game, she'd dirtied her hands quite a bit by the end. As far as questions that remained in Breaking Bad's wake, I've wondered how many of Walt and Jesse's crimes are able to tie back to Skyler, and whether or not Jesse would have tried to contact her after speeding away from Walt and the massacre at the neo-Nazi hub.

Marie Schrader - Betsy Brandt

One would think that Marie would want justice for the murder of her husband, Dean Norris' DEA agent Hank Schrader, but that's assuming that Skyler went public with the coordinates to find their already buried bodies. There's a legitimate chance that Marie still has no idea what happened to Hank when El Camino starts off. If that's the case, I'd bet my collection of rocks, er, minerals that Marie would take matters into her own hands in finding out more information by any means necessary. She might even partner up with Steve Gomez's wife Belinda, who was referred to but never seen on Breaking Bad.

Huell Babineaux - Lavell Crawford

Breaking Bad fans had the joy of watching Lavell Crawford reprise the fan-favorite role of Huell Babineaux in Better Call Saul, which helped set up his future position as one of Saul Goodman's bodyguards. But Huell's post-Breaking Bad fate absolutely needs to get cleared up in El Camino, considering he was left in a safe house by Hank and Gomez, who lied to Huell about Jesse's fate in order to scare him into giving up info about Walt. Hank and Gomez soon got killed off, though, presumably leaving Huell in a mentally chaotic state until hopefully someone thought to check up on him. (The Internet, of course, had fun with the idea of Huell being stuck in the room for the rest of his days.)

Patrick Kuby - Bill Burr

Unlike his on-screen counterpart, Bill Burr's Kuby has yet to make any appearances on Better Call Saul (though we'll be watching him soon in The Mandalorian). Kuby last showed up in the twelfth episode of Season 5 after eavesdropping on Badger and Skinny Pete's long convo about Babylon 5. Hank told Huell that Walt killed Kuby, but considering he lied about other stuff during that chat, we believe Kuby is still alive out there. And because fans have no idea what happened to him, El Camino is clearly the ideal way to clear that up, even if it's a stretch to connect him to the story.

Elliot and Gretchen Schwartz - Adam Godley and Jessica Hecht

In perhaps a more perfect world, the Breaking Bad franchise would continue with another prequel that focused on Walter White's college days, particularly in relation to his relationships with Elliott Schwartz and the latter's future wife Gretchen, who dated Walt for a spell. But until that gets announced, I'll just hope that El Camino can bring Elliot and Gretchen back to show how they fared in the span after Walt showed up with his financial demands. It's more than possible that their company Gray Matter could find a way to involve itself with Jesse's case, considering Walt was also the cause for his mostly ruined life.

Ed the Disappearer - Robert Forster

As it goes with others mentioned here, the chance for a post-Breaking Bad appearance from Robert Forster's vacuum cleaner-repairing Ed likely depends on whether or not Jesse's El Camino story has a direct need for a character that gives endangered criminals new identities. If Jesse aims to run for it in the titular car, at least until swapping that out, then Ed would be a pretty reliable resource to have. And for all that Jesse might not have been as clinically intelligent as his former cooking partner, he'd be smart enough not to botch things like Walt by returning to the place where it all went wrong.

Saul Goodman / Gene - Bob Odenkirk

As the lead of his own prequel series, Bob Odenkirk's rule-juking lawyer has absolutely gotten his due justice by way of getting spun into one of the franchise's most fully rounded characters. As such, his presence in El Camino arguably isn't as necessary as that of other Breaking Bad familiars. However, Saul Goodman is technically the only flagship character whose future is known: he's "currently" working as a mall Cinnabon manager who goes by the name of Gene. Beyond wanting to see a Better Call Saul connection in the movie, I think it could offer up some major insights if El Camino also taps into how Saul made that hard life turn, as a way to reflect Jesse's situation. (I wouldn't be angry if Rhea Seehorn's Kim showed up in some form, also.)

Walter White - Bryan Cranston

With only a feature's runtime for El Camino, Vince Gilligan likely won't want to spend a lot of narrative legroom on flashbacks. But assuming a flashback does come into play, it absolutely needs to feature Bryan Cranston's return to his Emmy-recognized role. And we're talking an actual return for new scenes, as opposed to Vince Gilligan dusting off some archival footage of previously viewed scenes. Alternately, Jesse likely won't be able to leave Walt's memory behind for the rest of his life, so perhaps fans can see Heisenberg reappear as a figment of Jesse's broken and haunted psyche. He wouldn't even need to speak, really, but maybe if he could knock...

No guarantees can be made just yet about what Breaking Bad fans can expect to see in El Camino, but all the details will come to light when the movie gets released on Netflix on Friday, October 11, at 12:01 a.m. PT.

Star Wars fans are still beaming excitedly from all of the updates revealed during Star Wars Celebration, with the first footage being released for both Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker and the upcoming Disney+ TV series The Mandalorian. (Check out everything we know about that small screen debut.) While audiences were aware that Breaking Bad vet Giancarlo Esposito locked down a role in Mandalorian, it wasn't discovered until the footage was revealed that another Breaking Bad star is apparently also set for Star Wars mayhem.

Stand-up comedian and actor Bill Burr is best known to Breaking Bad fans as Saul Goodman's henchman Patrick Kuby, who almost always worked exclusively with Lavell Crawford's Huell Babineaux. Burr may find himself with a completely different, if equally obsessive, fanbase in the near future, as he was seemingly showcased during two moments of The Mandalorian's specially screened footage at Star Wars Celebration.

During one shot of the new footage, a man who looked very much like Bill Burr could be seen in the background, rocking some mercenary gear along with a few others. Interestingly enough, one of the other characters is played by the similarly unannounced Mark Boone Junior, best known to TV audiences as Bobby Munson on Sons of Anarchy.

Just a second or two later, Bill Burr is assumedly who is seen stepping into an entry way while wielding duel blasters. He starts shooting them at whatever threat is in his way, and looks pretty badass doing it.

For the most part, Bill Burr is usually seen on stage in front of live audiences, though his stand-up comedy routine is no less vicious than any blasters in the Star Wars universe. Burr is well-known for his angst-ridden storytelling and his heightened disgust with many modern-era developments, which would make his inclusion into the Star Wars universe all the more amusing. Especially since he sometimes targets Star Wars with his lethal barbs, too.

I would absolutely adore a five-minute routine, in character, where he questions the validity of The Force. It'll probably never happen, but I can dream.

Unfortunately, considering the Star Wars camp is pretty closed-mouth about all future projects, there haven't seemed to be any full-blown confirmations about Bill Burr's involvement with The Mandalorian. The comedian's social media posts haven't been set in far-away galaxies at all, either, so we'll likely have to wait a little longer for an official character description to see the light of day.

Unfortunately, while Bill Burr is apparently having success landing live-action roles outside of the Breaking Bad universe, fans have been clamoring to see Patrick Kuby show up on the AMC prequel drama Better Call Saul, which will be closely approaching the official Breaking Bad timeline in Season 5. Sadly, those eps aren't going to premiere until 2020, but hopefully fans will hear something concrete about Burr's casting happening in the meantime. Or about him showing up in the upcoming Breaking Bad movie.

Also in the meantime, Bill Burr fans can watch his Netflix animated series F is for Family, which is on its third season. The Mandalorian will pop up later this year when Disney+ launches in earnest on November 12.

Once upon a time, viewers rarely had to worry too much about Netflix originals getting cancelled. While some did get the axe, it felt almost like Netflix policy to give shows multiple chances. Recently, however, Netflix CEO Reed Hastings revealed that he thinks the streaming service needs to go for more cancellations, and so we've had to worry about the futures of some of our favorites. Luckily, we can stop worrying about F is for Family, which has officially scored a renewal order for Season 3. We can thank star and co-creator Bill Burr for breaking the news:

Season 2 hasn't actually been out for that long, all things considered. The ten episodes of the second season only became available on May 30. Sure, a month is plenty of time to watch and rewatch the entire series several times, but Netflix could have had us waiting and wondering for much longer. The renewal for Season 2 didn't come until four months after the first season aired. Bill Burr's tweet about the renewal was certainly good news for those of us who have already been burned by Netflix's two big unexpected cancellations.

Unfortunately, the announcement of the renewal didn't give a clue of when we might be able to expect Season 3 to become available. All six episodes of Season 1 debuted back in December of 2015, and we had more than a year to wait before we got Season 2, although we did get a longer season out of it. Still, I have to hope that we won't have to wait another 16 months before we gets Season 3. That's a long time to go before we get more of the Murphy family in all their 1970s glory.

F is for Family is produced by Vince Vaughn's Wild West Television and stars Bill Burr, Laura Dern, Justin Long, Debi Derryberry, Haley Reinhart, and Sam Rockwell. The show is apparently quite a labor of love for Burr, who created the show to capture the characters and stories that he experienced as a child. It was a project he long wanted to do, and the product is a pretty hilarious animated series.

Of course, it's not the most politically correct series, and it's definitely not for any who have a no tolerance policy for swearing. In fact, if you're watching in public, wearing headphones is probably a good idea. We can bet that Season 3 will be every bit as raunchy as the first two.

Join me in crossing fingers that we'll get even more episodes in Season 3 than in Season 2. If I had as much confidence in myself as Netflix does in its original programming, then I’d be…well, I’m not confident enough to guess what that might be. In any case, the streaming giant leaves no stone unturned when dishing out season renewals, and the latest to earn another batch of episodes is F is for Family, the foul-mouthed animated comedy from stand-up comedian Bill Burr and writer Michael Price. The always hilarious Burr actually shared the news himself, via an expletive-laden video tweet. NSFW without headphones.

Okay, so technically cast member Haley Reinhart may have said it the other day on a local news show, but that didn’t gain as much instant traction as Bill Burr putting it out there on Twitter. Perhaps it only became official today. Regardless of how the news got out there, the point is that it’s great news. Burr followed up in a later tweet that Netflix upped the order and Season 2 will be ten episodes instead of four.

Netflix’s initial dive into adult-geared animated fare, BoJack Horseman (Season 3 coming soon), is a superbly absurd study on celebrity and television and addiction, as seen through the prism of talking animals. F is for Family, on the other hand, is a far more traditional TV comedy that centers on a family of five where personalities never stop clashing. Burr’s character Frank Murphy is a war veteran whose angered profanity is more plentiful than his hair follicles, and he’s married to Laura Dern’s Sue, a housewife with a Tupperware-ish side gig. Justin Long plays the typically juvenile teenage son, Debi Derryberry is the precocious (but not necessarily angelic) daughter Maureen, and Haley Reinhart’s Bill is a bullied youngin.

While the sensibilities aren’t quite the same, the closest comparison for F is for Family is King of the Hill, but only if Hank Hill’s most pissed off mood was just stretched out over the course of the entire series. If you’ve seen Bill Burr’s standup routines, you know that the guy is a master of constrained rage that he unleashes in pointed tirades at all manner of things. And Frank is basically just the “turnt up curmudgeon” version of that side of Burr’s personality. It’s great stuff, and the six episodes in Season 1 just weren’t enough, so it’s fantastic that another four episodes have been added for the second go-round.

Netflix has been busy recently, building its championed original programming library by releasing Season 2 of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and confirming a new drama focused on the Brazilian corruption scandal. Not to mention the announcements for all the new stand-up specials and Hannibal Burress’ doc Hannibal Takes Edinburgh. Considering F is for Family Season 1 premiered in December 2015, I can’t imagine we’ll be getting Season 2 at any point earlier than that timeframe in 2016. But there’s lots of stuff premiering over the next few months that you can check out with our Summer TV schedule.

American Horror Story: Coven

While American Horror Story is currently spinning the wheels of an uncomfortable trip into the Freak Show, viewers who still haven’t caught up with last season’s bewitching Coven plotline are in luck. With Jessica Lange anchoring this tale of witches, witchhunters, voodoo queens, devils, and Gabourey Sidibe masturbating in front of a minotaur, American Horror Story hit some of its weirdest highs and lows during this season. Highs? That special guest spot from Stevie Nicks and the crazyballs performances from Kathy Bates and Lance Reddick. Lows? Emma Roberts: Superbitch and Sarah Paulson’s eye problems.

24: Live Another Day

Dammit, Chloe! Fox brought super-badass Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland) back to audiences for the limited series 24: Live Another Day earlier this year, and I’m sure you won’t be surprised to find out that it was one of the hardest days of Jack Bauer’s trouble-filled career. Set four years after Season 8 capped off and following a slightly sped-up time pattern, this pseudo-season finds Bauer is still a fugitive who only pops back into the government’s eyesight because he hears about an assassination attempt being planned on President James Heller. He gets added to the anti-terrorist team, but soon realizes that the threat is even bigger than he could have ever imagined. A return to form for the series, even if the form is the abundantly ridiculous one that 24 kept stretching out as it went on.

Black Mirror – Seasons 1 and 2

One of the best anthology series ever conceived, the deliciously twisted Black Mirror was created by U.K. brainiac Charlie Brooker as a look into the dark and dangerous territories of technology’s near-future. (The name refers to the screens of our TVs, phones, etc. when they’re off.) There have only been six episodes thusfar – with a Jon Hamm-filled Christmas special coming this month – but they’re all winners. A lot of modern topics are covered in haunting ways, from obsessions with reality TV to the way social media is used to do things. One of the episodes, about an implant that lets you record everything your eyes see, was even picked up for film development by Robert Downey Jr.’s production company. It’s smart stuff that is all the more frightening for its thinly hyperbolic satire. This might be our future one day.

Netflix’s first attempt at an adult animated comedy, Bojack Horseman, debuted two months ago and shocked audiences who weren’t expecting such a personal story behind all the sex and alcoholism jokes. The streaming service will once again head to the 2D world of animation by teaming up with Vince Vaughn’s Wild West Television for F is for Family, which already boasts a cast that includes Justin Long, Laura Dern and Bill Burr, the stand-up comedian whose stage stories inspired the series. Does this finally make Burr a household name yet?

F is for Family will center on over-the-top patriarch Frank Murphy (Burr), his wife Sue (Dern) and son Kevin (Long), who is called the oldest, presumably meaning more family members will be cast later. There isn’t a real plotline yet, but it takes place during the 1970s, which the press release describes as “a time when you could smack your kid, smoke inside and bring a gun to the airport.” Katie O’Connell, CEO of production company Gaumont International Television, calls it a “hilariously edgy” style of comedy, so it sounds like the creative team will do everything necessary to assert its adult tone.

F is for Family will run for only six episodes, and was created by Bill Burr and Emmy-award winning writer Michael Price (The Simpsons), the latter of whom will serve as showrunner. Also executive producing is actor/producer Peter Billingsley (Couples Retreat). Here’s how Burr describes the chance to make this project a reality.

Burr is a rising star, spinning a fan favorite character out of a small role on Breaking Bad. He’ll soon be working with some of the It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia guys for an upcoming FX comedy called Pariah, and his latest stand-up special will hit Netflix on December 5. Justin Long knows comedy, and he knows voicework. He’s been in animated things like Alvin and the Chipmunks and the shortlived series Unsupervised, and his most recent TV work was actually for the animated Comedy Central series TripTank. Dern, who reclaimed her TV fame in HBO’s Enlightened, flexed her comedy muscles this year in Comedy Central’s Kroll Show and Drunk History. She’ll undoubtedly be great in this.

It’s unclear when F is for Family will go into production, but Netflix is planning on releasing it in all of its territories in 2015.

When it comes to making things last on television, few know how to do it as smoothly and as hilariously as the gang behind FX’s It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, which is gearing up for Season 10 premiering in January. Thankfully, we may have a new way to experience their brashly bizarre comedy, as FX has given the greenlight to their pilot Pariah. The comedy will be fronted by the always on-point comedian Bill Burr, whom you might recognize from his recurring role as Kuby on Breaking Bad.

In Pariah, Burr will play Joe Abbot, a mercurial man who ruins his job as a TV personality by having a huge meltdown on the air. The act turns him into an unwanted presence in show business, and he’s forced to enter the normal world as someone who doesn’t really know how to live in the normal world. Considering how ridiculous It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia handles issues of social status and class, this should be a hoot, especially with Burr’s seething rage presumably just behind the surface of Joe Abbot's psyche.

According to THR, Pariah was created by It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia writers John and Dave Chernin, who got their break on the show starting in Season 6. Stars Rob McElhenney, Charlie Day and Glenn Howerton, through their RCG Productions banner, worked a pilot deal in when FX renewed the show through Season 12 earlier this year, and this is the fruit of that deal, pitting together some of the funniest people TV has to offer.

The pilot was written by both of the Chernins, and it will be directed by McElhenney, who broke his directorial cherry on a couple of It’s Always Sunny episodes. Burr will also be executive producing along with everyone else, which is somewhat new ground for him. Here’s hoping it gets him interested in bringing more comedy to TV, rather than just selfishly filling the world with wonderful stand-up specials. (I hope I wrote “selfishly” with enough sarcasm there.)

Though it was never a big part, Burr’s low-key Breaking Bad role kind of kick-started his acting career, though he's mostly stuck to comedies in the past few years, appearing in Paul Feig’s The Heat, Comedy Central’s Kroll Show and the upcoming horror comedy Zombeavers. If it ain’t broke, don’t shoehorn it into a drama when it’s obviously a source for laughter. (That’s how it goes, right?) I guess if this series goes forward, it would thwart my already thwarted dreams that Burr would reprise his Kuby role for AMC’s upcoming Breaking Bad spinoff Better Call Saul.

Netflix is no stranger to comedy, but they've upped their game by announcing four exclusive new comedy specials that will begin streaming in the next few months. (Take that, werewolf soap opera!) The biggest name on the list is BIll Cosby, whose latest hour of stand-up is scheduled to fall somewhere in between performances by the stellar comics Jim Jefferies, Bill Burr, Chelsea Peretti and Chelsea Handler, whose special was previously announced. Watch out, Comedy Central.

Last month, Cosby taped Bill Cosby 77 at the SF Jazz Center in San Francisco to celebrate his own 77th birthday. The comedian, whose upcoming NBC pilot recently starting moving forward, can be seen telling his latest batch of stories when the hour-long engagement hits the streaming service just after midnight on Friday, November 28. Bill Cosby at 77, directed by Robert Townsend, follows last year’s Bill Cosby: Far From Finished, his first trip back up on the stand-up stage in 30 years.

Chelsea Handler will be moving to a more permanent place on Netflix’s schedule when her new talk show debuts in 2016, but Uganda Be Kidding Me Live will be the first of four docucomedies she’s releasing in between now and then. The special is set to hit Netflix on Friday, October 10, around a month and a half after her E! series Chelsea Lately airs its final episode on August 26. (Have you seen her Instagram promotional pic?)

Jim Jefferies, whose riotous FX series Legit was recently cancelled (and has its first season now on Netflix), will premiere his newest stand-up Jim Jefferies: BARE on Friday, August 29. Filmed in Boston’s Wilbur Theatre, this special is in TWO WEEKS, people! I’m a huge Jefferies fan – not that I dislike anyone on this list in the least – but every one of his specials has been pure gold. One of them is on Netflix now. Find it.

Bill Burr (Breaking Bad) is just as good at Jefferies at elevating depressing material to darkly hilarious heights. His latest offering, I’m Sorry You Feel That Way, was taped at Atlanta’s Tabernacle and will hit Netflix on Friday, December 5. You can also find two of his three previous specials streaming right now, and you won’t be disappointed.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine star Chelsea Peretti is a deceptively intelligent ray of sunshiney bliss, and her new special is set to turn the usual stand-up hour on its head. Directed by Lance Bangs, One of the Greats will puts Peretti’s talents for writing and performing on full display, and will hit Netflix on Friday, November 14.

The casting of Margo Martindale as Nick's mother should have give us an indication that New Girl was aiming high with the casting for the characters' family. But news on the casting front has gotten even better, as the Fox comedy series has cast two (excellent) stand-up comedians to play more Miller family relatives.

Last week, we learned that Margo Martindale is set to play the role of Nick's mother in an episode, which airs next month and will have the gang traveling to Chicago, where Nick grew up. As it turns out, Nick's the responsible one in the family, which leads us to wonder what the rest of his relatives are like. Today EW reports that Kroll and Burr have signed on to play family members.

Kroll - who not only stars in FX's The League, but also now has his own TV show (the Comedy Central sketch comedy series Kroll Show) - will play Nick's younger brother Jamie, an air conditioner repairman (paging Troy from Community!). And Bill Burr is set to play Bobby, "Nick's loudmouthed cousin and a TSA agent at Boston's Logan Airport. Apparently, he and Jamie are always fighting, which should make for some hilarity when we consider just how funny both comedians are. In addition to his stand-up, Burr has appeared a few times on Breaking Bad, playing one of Saul's henchmen Kuby.

As EW points out, Nick's father (played by Dennis Farina) has already appeared on the show this season. Still, it's exciting to learn more about Nick, especially when factoring in Martindale, Kroll and Burr's involvement. It's going to be great to see how Nick and the rest of the group interact with him. I also sort of hope we get to see Nick's room.
