Arguably the best relationship to come out of three seasons of the Apple TV series Ted Lasso is the one that evolved between Jamie Tartt and Roy Kent, and equally between Phil Dunster and Brett Goldstein. Starting at a point of absolute loathing, Jamie and Roy could barely be in the same room together in Season 1, but a bond formed as trust was built and they became the best part of Season 3.

One of the best shows Apple TV has to offer, it’s true that the beloved series had a divisive Season 3 finale, but before then, it was Dunster and Goldstein’s time to shine. While promoting HBO’s Rooster in this Rich Eisen Show clip, the actor confirmed that the love he and Goldstein had for each other was reflected in the time they shared in Amsterdam in Episode 6, resulting in his favorite scene to film. He said:

Cast members often say glowing things about their co-stars in interviews, but Phil Dunster seems to have genuinely enjoyed the time he spent with Brett Goldstein while making Ted Lasso. The time they shared together in Amsterdam not only provided one of the most wholesome moments of the series but also helped solidify the bromance between Dunster and Goldstein, as indicated in the way the actor spoke about it below.

In the episode, which you can watch or rewatch with an Apple TV subscription, Roy Kent makes a vulnerable admission that he never learned to ride a bike because the grandfather that was supposed to teach him passed away before getting the chance. Jamie Tartt, in the most Jamie Tartt way possible, decides to teach him on stolen bicycles bought from a stranger.

Teamwork, some shared conversation that revealed just how different their families are, and a desire to see a windmill forms a bond that cannot be broken. Phil Dunster said:

It’s also a time that went a long way in humanizing Jamie Tartt and Roy Kent. At the start of Ted Lasso, Jamie was a talented striker on the field but had an ego that made him impossible to be around. And Roy, the hot-headed veteran turned coach, wanted nothing to do with him. But after breaking down some emotional walls and realizing their insecurities made them more alike than they realized, the two became friends.

Ted Lasso will be making its return later in the 2026 TV schedule with its fourth season and with Ted now set to coach Richmond’s women’s football team. And while Brett Goldstein will be returning as Roy Kent, it’s currently unknown whether Phil Dunster will at least make a cameo or appear in some way. But we’ll all know for sure in August as the new episodes roll out, and hopefully Dunster and Goldstein will get to share some more memorable on-screen moments.

I didn’t know what to expect with Jennifer Lopez and Brett Goldstein’s romantic comedy. I just trust Goldstein to write a charming comedy, and I have complete faith in Lopez’s ability to sell a romantic comedy. She’s a master at it. I knew the chemistry between them would be electric. Nonetheless, many of the recent romantic comedies haven’t impressed me, so I went into Office Romance with low expectations.

However, I found myself delighted, especially because it isn’t the traditional romantic comedy. It’s absurd in so many ways, but I think screenwriters Brett Goldstein and Joe Kelly deciding to make a non-traditional romantic film actually makes it fit well into the genre.

Office Romance Understands That Rom-Coms Should Be Silly And Funny

I can see why Office Romance would divide critics, and more importantly, divide romantic comedy lovers. It’s a lot more raunchy, wacky, and bold than many romantic comedies. You can tell men wrote this one, but I don’t think that’s necessarily a bad thing. Maybe it's just my taste for stupid humor, but I found so much of Office Romance hilarious. As much as I love the romantic comedy genre, not many movies are that funny.

They’re cute and sweet, but they aren’t the funniest comedies I have seen. There is always an exception because some movies are comedies first, and romance second. Office Romance, I believe, puts both aspects first. It’s very funny while also understanding that you want to be invested in these two people falling in love. I cared a lot about whether Daniel (Brett Goldstein) and Jackie (Jennifer Lopez) ended up together.

It also didn’t feel like a romantic comedy parody. It felt like a movie genuinely wanting to be funny and have an enticing romance at its center. Other romantic comedies don’t have to go as bold as to have a way-too-graphic birthing scene, but these films should find ways to put humor and comedy more at the forefront.

Jennifer Lopez and Brett Goldstein Don’t Just Have Electric Chemistry, They’re Hot Together

Jennifer Lopez and Brett Goldstein are very hot people. They’re very attractive as individuals, so naturally, it was obvious that they were hot as a pair. Office Romance proves this theory, however, I think their hotness demonstrates a fundamental rule about romantic comedies: The couple has to be attractive together. This doesn’t necessarily mean that they both have to fit the “beauty standards.” This means the chemistry has to be so electric that you would lose it if they don’t end up together.

Some of the best romantic comedies of all-time aren’t necessarily about the hottest actors falling in love. It’s about their chemistry being so good that you need them together by the end. Lopez and Goldstein are masters of chemistry with their on-screen partners.

Therefore, Office Romance is like watching two experts at a craft finally meet someone who is their equal. Now, Lopez and Goldstein don’t have the best chemistry I have ever seen on screen or from them, but they do a good enough job to sell the fantasy and make us want to see more of them together. I would gladly add this pair to the list of performers I want to see work together again. I would also gladly watch Lopez and Goldstein have a trilogy of romantic comedies.

The Barriers Keeping Them Apart Were Fixable But Not Unrealistic

We see many office romances on TV and in movies. It makes them seem like the norm and mainly without taboos. However, there are a few movies and TV shows that reflect the reality that it could be some major issues if people date their coworkers. It’s even more troublesome if they date their boss. It’s believable that Jackie’s company wouldn’t want office romances. Office Romance then adds some additional barriers to why they can’t cross these lines.

This includes Jackie needing to prove herself as a boss, and the potential of hurting Daniel’s opportunity to stay around to help his sister. These are serious dilemmas with possible major repercussions for their lives and careers.

However, these are not life or death obstacles. They can talk to the company about changing the policy, or, since Jackie is the boss, she can demand it be changed. It’s really a small barrier, but something you can understand as a problem. Most romantic comedies have sensible barriers, but a few either go too out there on why characters can’t be together, or the problem seems almost nonexistent. Romantic movies need understandable and believable things that keep the main characters apart.

Office Romance makes sure the problem is an actual problem, and not something so silly that you stop caring about whether they can get around it.

Office Romance Had A Giddiness To It That Makes It Sweet And Innocent

Romance and love are ridiculous, but they also come with an innocence, in a way. Love in general is a bit of a wholesome endeavor. People enter a relationship, romance, or a love story with the hope that it will beat the odds and work out. Love can age you backwards. It can turn a 60-year-old into a hormonal teen.

A great romantic comedy should reflect the playful youthfulness of love. These fully developed adults should start to act unreasonably and immaturely, and follow the bliss more than reason. Many love stories and romance movies showcase the teeny bopper behavior of falling in love at any age. However, sometimes romantic comedies take themselves too seriously.

Love should feel fun and frivolous. This is how it feels with Daniel and Jackie’s romance in Office Romance. They begin acting like teens. It adds a sweet and innocent layer to the film and showcases how much they like each other. They go back to the primal nature of a teen in love, despite their age and maturity levels.

It Understands The Art Of A Big Gesture

If a romance comedy doesn’t end in a big declaration of love, keep it. I need someone running to tell the other person how much they adore them. I need a major speech that highlights why these two characters belong together. It’s a cliche act in a romantic comedy, but it should be standard.

Romance movies just feel better with that hopelessly romantic final declaration scene. Office Romance doesn’t have the best version of this moment, but it still works. The movie reminds me why I love romantic comedies so much, and it makes the Netflix subscription worth the ridiculous price.

Jennifer Lopez has been a celebrity fashion icon for decades, and the looks she’s shown on the red carpet to promote her movie are reason enough to keep those rom-coms coming. So it was absolutely no surprise that one of her latest Office Romance press appearances featured an outfit worthy of my obsession. I do, however, have to question whether it was the right look for the season, because it honestly seems too dang hot!

Office Romance has been hanging out in Netflix movies' No. 1 spot since its release, despite tepid reviews that said the supporting cast outshone the leading couple. One thing about the rom-com that has not been tepid is JLo’s press tour wardrobe, including a daring three-strap dress and the chic, long-sleeved look below:

Jennifer Lopez shared the above pics on Instagram as she visited her Office Romance co-star Brett Goldstein’s podcast Films to Be Buried With. The thing is, Goldstein typically records the podcast in the UK, where he’s from, and over the past few weeks, the area has been seeing record-high temperatures.

In May, the heat rose to 35.1 degrees Celsius in some areas (around 95 degrees Fahrenheit), however, they are more accustomed to highs in the 50s and 60s (Fahrenheit) at this time of year.

Suffice it to say, a long-sleeved ensemble might not have been my first choice for a trip across the pond, especially in the way the jumper goes all the way up to a buttoned collar on her neck. JLo’s got me pulling on my own neckline just thinking about her trying to breathe in that thing.

Oxygen or no oxygen, though, Jennifer Lopez looks drop-dead gorgeous in the patterned minidress. It’s giving Clueless vibes, with many of the most iconic ‘90s looks from that movie featuring long sleeves and short skirts. Instead of knee socks or stockings, however, JLo went with knee-high black boots with a tall platform heel that accentuated her long, trim legs.

While the stunning black-and-white ensemble might have been more appropriate for fall, I’m just going to assume Brett Goldstein had the air conditioner blasting at the studio that day, because outside temperatures aside, you just know he was sweating over the opportunity to have Jennifer Lopez on his podcast.

Longtime fans of the Ted Lasso actor know that he’s had a crush on JLo for years and is a huge fan of her movies. What’s more, he and Joe Kelly wrote the Office Romance script with Jennifer Lopez in mind and even said they’d scrap the whole thing if she wouldn’t sign on.

So even though by this point they’ve starred in the movie together — and had quite the “flirty energy” on set — actually having her on the podcast was undoubtedly a banner moment for the actor.

There’s nothing like an unexpected and graphic birth scene to really wake you up on a bright and sunny Saturday morning. I found this out the hard way this weekend, when I put on Jennifer Lopez and Brett Goldstein’s intentionally awkward new Netflix release Office Romance, and was confronted with a prosthetic vagina about three fourths of the way through the film. Yes, the movie really included it as one of its many unexpected storylines.

No, Jennifer Lopez Is Not Involved In The Graphic Birth Scene

While the "flirty" JLo and Brett Goldstein do seem to be playing characters of similar ages in Office Romance, meaning she’s seemingly playing a little younger, the only character having a baby in this movie is Betty Gilpin’s Sydney Bloom. It’s a recurring joke in the movie that Sydney is heavily pregnant and should have already gone on maternity leave, but she’s just way too dedicated to the job.

So dedicated, in fact, that while she’s chewing out Goldstein’s Daniel Branchflower (excellent character name I might add), her water breaks. No big deal, I’ve seen this a million times in movies. But then she ultimately has the baby in the office, and it is shown onscreen with no punches pulled.

I honestly thought the whole thing was CGI, but then Gilpin told Variety it was an entire production involving an animatronic baby and a puppeteer, which somehow makes the whole thing even wilder.

I want to believe in the beauty of birth, but the scene's cringe-inducing given the context of when the birth scene happens, how she’s having the baby in front of coworkers, and how much the audience sees. I also just would like to point out that I didn’t go into Office Romance thinking, “Oh boy, I hope I’m confronted with the joys of populating the Earth” today. I thought I was going to get Lopez and Goldstein making out on the beach somewhere. I, in fact, did get that; this was just a bonus.

Gilpin went on to reveal that originally the scene went even harder before the final draft hit the movie release schedule. The creatives had planned to show her birthing the placenta after the baby came out. She apparently shot this over and over, but it didn’t make the final product.

I'm not really sorry to hear it. Listen, even Gilpin was “freaked out” by having to film with the prosthetic vagina. Thank goodness for great rom-com actress Jennifer Lopez. The actress said it was her co-star who ultimately made her feel comfortable about going with the flow on set.

I’m sure there are millions of families out there who have gone through childbirth that will find this scene to be a blip in the movie, and possibly a very funny moment. It does lead to one of the funnier whisper fight moments in the movie, as we pointed out in our Office Romance review roundup.

Yet something about the way the scene is shot and how much we are shown combined with the context of this just being a random rom-com had me fully shook up. It’s certainly something people will be talking about.

Yes, Office Romance puts the rom in rom-com. Brett Goldstein and Jennifer Lopez’s chemistry is wonderful. However, I’d argue this movie, which was co-written by Goldstein and Joe Kelly, actually goes harder in the com department. Seriously, his film on Netflix’s 2026 schedule features three absurd storylines that are absolutely hilarious, and I can't deny that they totally made the movie for me.

When I say absurd, I mean there were multiple plot points in this film that went far beyond anything I could have ever imagined, and they were both wildly creative and delightfully unhinged. Ultimately, they helped keep me on my toes as the primary romance between JLo’s Jackie and Goldstein’s Daniel unfolded, and they’re also what made me appreciate this film so much.

Sydney’s Relentless Pursuit To Figure Out What’s Going On Between Jackie And Daniel

As reviews for Office Romance pointed out, Betty Gilpin’s performance as Jacki's second-in-command, Sydney, is undeniably funny. In fact, I think she steals the show. From the jump, she’s suspicious of Jackie and Daniel’s relationship, and the GLOW actress played that all out with an over-the-top passion that made me laugh out loud numerous times.

Plus, Sydney was very pregnant as all this was going down. However, she wouldn't let that get in her way, as she went into labor at the office and literally refused to push her baby out until she got a confession out of Daniel and Jackie.

All in all, Betty Gilpin gave a loud, unapologetic and truly hilarious performance that both emphasized how wild Sydney’s story was and served as the biggest highlight of the movie overall.

Peter Vance Going From Being A Lawyer To Working At A Food Truck

Bradley Whitford’s Peter Vance was making me laugh early in the movie after he choked on a breakfast burrito and drove his scooter haphazardly through the office. However, what really turned his story into an absurdly amusing one came later when it was revealed that he started working at a food truck after he left the airline company. And it’s important to note that he literally just works there; he does not own it; he “lives in service now.” He makes breakfast burritos with love and has “found [his] true calling.”

I was so happy for him, and I loved how his story came back around full circle right when Jackie needed him for some advice. It was a silly and surprisingly wholesome way to conclude his arc, and it helped drive the central romance forward.

Daniel’s Sister Is A Murderer

Literally, the whole reason Daniel goes to the US is to help his sister Lizzy (Jodie Whittaker) after she “chopped a guy’s head off with a machete” and was arrested. When I saw the trailer for Office Romance and wondered why an American airline company had a British man on their staff of lawyers, I did not think “because his sister was in prison for killing a man across the pond” would be the answer to my question.

However, I’m delighted it was. It was such a wild twist for this film to add, and I loved that Whittaker played Lizzy in such an unapologetically chaotic yet lovable way.

I also enjoyed how this all played into the greater romance, seeing as Daniel keeping Lizzy a secret from Jackie prompted them to break up (more so because Daniel was keeping secrets, not because Lizzy was a criminal). So, this additional storyline in this project on the 2026 movie schedule both added to our primary romance and provided a shocking backstory about our leading man and his criminal sister.

Absurd is genuinely the best word I can think of to describe the various subplots in Office Romance, and the movie is so much better because of them. They add unexpected and hilarious layers to an already nice rom-com, and as I said earlier, they really help put the com in rom-com in a way I really, really appreciate.

Sadly, Hollywood and the world at large have lost yet another beloved actor in Anthony Head, who died this week at the age of 72. Head’s death was confirmed by his family, and the beloved performer died due to complications from pneumonia. Known best for his roles on shows like Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Ted Lasso, Head has been widely mourned by fans thus far. Many of the late actor's co-stars are also now paying tribute to him, including Sarah Michelle Gellar, as she shared an emotionally candid post.

Sarah Michelle Gellar And Other Buffy Stars Honor Anthony Head

Head played the role of Rupert Giles (mostly known as just “Giles”) and was a regular cast member for the show’s first five seasons before recurring throughout the final two. Giles is a “watcher,” who serves as a mentor to Gellar’s young slayer, Buffy, and, in time, the two form a surrogate father-daughter relationship. Evidently, that connection extended beyond the show as well, based on the sweet sentiments Gellar shared about Head on Instagram. The actress shared a series of sweet photos as well as caption about not being “OK”:

Giles is arguably one of the supernatural horror show’s most lovable characters, and he dishes out invaluable wisdom to the characters throughout the course of Buffy’s seven seasons. While the writers deserve plenty of credit, Head’s warm performance really makes the character work, and he also seemed to endear himself to his co-stars while making the series. Emma Caufield, who played Anya Jenkins on the show, also shared some warm words about Head on Instagram:

Also joining the series of tributes to Head was Angel actor David Boreanaz. When taking to Instagram, Boreanaz shared a throwback photo of himself and Head, and he also shared a truly bittersweet message:

Charisma Carpenter, who played Cordelia Chase on the show, paid tribute to Anthony Head as well by sharing photos and a lengthy message on Instagram. While Carpenter admitted to not being as close with Head as some of her co-stars, she also got real about feeling the weight of his loss:

Sadly, the Buffy the Vampire Slayer family has lost multiple members in recent years, with Xander Harris portrayer Nicholas Brendon having passed away at 54 due to natural causes just earlier this year. And, in 2025, Michelle Trachtenberg died at 39 due to complications related to diabetes. Trachtenberg was best known for her role as Dawn Summers, a character she played throughout Buffy’s final two seasons.

Ted Lasso Stars Pay Tribute After Anthony Head’s Death

As a member of the Ted Lasso cast, Head played the despicable Rupert Mannion (to perfection). Now, several members of the cast have since spoken out in the aftermath of Head’s passing, including Roy Kent actor Brett Goldstein. In a post shared to his Instagram story, Goldstein paid loving tribute to Head:

Keeley Hazell played Bex, Mannion’s girlfriend and eventual third wife on the show, and the actress also posted a tribute to Head on her Instagram story. Hazell’s post contains two photos as well as a lovely message in honor of her on-screen husband:

Sweet sentiments also came from Jeremy Swift (known for playing Leslie Higgins on Lasso) shared a sweet selfie featuring himself and Head on Instagram. See it for yourself below:

The loss of Anthony Head still feels somewhat surreal at this point, though fans should know that it’s perfectly fine not to be OK like Sarah Michelle Gellar. If anything, though, the outpouring of love for Head is beautiful to see, and I feel confident in saying that his body of work – which includes other TV shows like Merlin and Little Britain – won’t be forgotten.

Jennifer Lopez has done some great rom-coms in her career, and the fact that Brett Goldstein wrote Office Romance with her specifically in mind has had fans excited about this one for over a year. It definitely hasn’t hurt buzz for the movie that the Ted Lasso actor had a real-life crush on JLo or that there were reports of the on-set “flirt fest” between the two stars. Thankfully, we don’t have to wait any longer, because the movie hit the 2026 Netflix schedule on June 5, and I’m actually surprised at what critics are saying.

Office Romance sees Jennifer Lopez’s Jackie Cruz become involved with Brett Goldstein’s Daniel Blanchflower, who works for her. The two engage in a secret relationship that obviously doesn’t stay a secret. The couple’s chemistry is “electric” in the trailer, but CinemaBlend’s Riley Utley saw the movie and had a different take on the best part, saying:

Ema Sasic of Next Best Picture confirms as much, saying “the real fun lies in a never-ending funhouse of delightfully unhinged supporting actors.” They’re likely the ones that earned a 7/10 rating from this critic, because Sasic expresses some disappointment in the romantic plot. It’s nothing we haven’t seen before, she says, either in the rom-com genre or from either of the lead actors. The critic continues:

Guy Lodge of Variety says Jennifer Lopez glows as the romantic comedy’s leading lady in what is ultimately a flick “just peculiar enough to be memorable.” The plot plays out exactly according to the formula, Lodge says, but the movie is “aggressively stolen by Betty Gilpin.” More from his Office Romance review:

David Ehrlich of IndieWire gives it a B-, writing that Office Romance would be as formulaic as it gets if not for “its admirably deep bench of deranged supporting characters.” The Netflix movie overall lacks the charm, wit or chemistry needed to spark much interest — the critic says, even as he admits it contains a little of all three — but any movie with Betty Gilpin is worth our time. Ehrlich continues:

Johnny Oleksinski of the New York Post gives it 1.5 stars out of 4, writing that amongst Office Romance’s many sins is how it wastes so many recognizable stars. However, this critic agrees that Betty Gilpin is the standout. Of Jennifer Lopez and Brett Goldstein, Oleksinski says:

Perhaps Jennifer Lopez and Brett Goldstein’s flirty energy is backfiring on them now that Office Romance has hit the 2026 movie release schedule, because while things definitely get steamy, nobody seems to be adding anything unexpected to the romantic comedy genre. Except Betty Gilpin. Every review that I read mentioned her as a highlight of the movie. If you want to check this movie out, Office Romance is available to stream now with a Netflix subscription.

Somehow, I never realized that some of Jennifer Lopez’s best rom-coms, like Maid in Manhattan and The Wedding Planner, have a trope in common. However, JLo’s newest co-star, Brett Goldstein, has noticed this commonality, and I’m thrilled that he chose not to go along with it for their project on Netflix’s 2026 schedule, Office Romance.

The trope in question is the fact that JLo’s characters are often people who aren’t of high social or financial status who are aspiring to something bigger. Brett Goldstein aptly pointed this out during his interview on Late Night with Seth Meyers, saying:

Now that I think about it, he’s totally right. As the title implies, Maid in Manhattan centers around a maid played by JLo who runs into a rising politician at a fancy hotel. He assumes she’s a guest, and the film unfolds from there.

In The Wedding Planner, Lopez plays a woman who is trying really hard to work up to a new position at her company. After she’s saved from an accident, she realizes the man who saved her (whom she’s crushing on) is her client’s fiancé. So, while she’s not necessarily “low status,” she’s certainly “aspiring to something” in this one.

The 2018 movie Second Act, which you can stream with a Hulu subscription, sees Lopez play a retail worker who jumps at the opportunity to reinvent herself in a very high-powered job.

So, even though all her rom-coms don’t use this trope, quite a few of them do, which creates a bit of a trend. However, Office Romance has not followed it. In this rom-com, which you’ll be able to stream with a Netflix subscription on June 5, JLo plays Jackie Cruz, the CEO and president of Air Cruz.

As the trailer for Office Romance shows, Lopez’s character is an absolute boss, and she lives a life of luxury. There’s no working up to a new position or a rags-to-riches tale here; she’s simply rich and wildly successful.

Then, the romance centers around her character and a lawyer who is played by Brett Goldstein falling for each other as they work together, hence the title, Office Romance.

While this film does have familiar elements that we know and love in JLo rom-coms, like an ensemble cast, it’s also quite different from the ones she’s best known for. And I love that Goldstein, who wrote this part specifically for Jennifer Lopez, made this intentional choice.

Now, to see this new rom-com from Jennifer Lopez that is quite different from the ones we know and love her for, you can stream Office Romance on Netflix on Friday, June 5. In the meantime, I’ll be going back to some of her classics, because while I love that this new movie doesn’t follow the trope Goldstein pointed out, it is a great trope nonetheless that I love to watch JLo play.

While promoting her new film, Office Romance, Jennifer Lopez name-dropped a blast from the past (not to be confused with the Brendan Fraser film). When the topic of her new movie's amazing supporting cast came up, she couldn’t resist bringing up Maid in Manhattan. So, between that and the classic rom-com energy she teased, I’m totally signing up to watch this flick on Netflix's 2026 schedule.

Lopez broke down what fans can expect from this new rom-com during an interview with SiriusXM. Obviously, she spent time talking about her chemistry with co-star Brett Goldstein. Fans have already spotted the electric chemistry between the two in the Office Romance trailer. However, as a long-time JLo fan, I'm especially excited about the Maid in Manhattan comparison. She said:

Who didn’t watch that movie over and over? The chemistry between JLo and Ralph Fiennes was undeniable. The Cinderella trope? What a classic. And this was before it was done a hundred times. Plus, the cherry on top was that the bond between everyone in the cast was exceptional. It starred Stanley Tucci, Natasha Richardson, and even a baby Tyler Posey before he was a teenage werewolf.

Meanwhile, in Office Romance, the ensemble cast includes Betty Gilpin, Amy Sedaris, Tony Hale, Bradley Whitford and more. So, much like Maid in Manhattan, it sounds like JLo and Goldstein will be surrounded by an incredible cast of performers.

Lopez continued by gushing about Brett Goldstein, too, who actually wrote the script for Office Romance with Joe Kelly. This isn’t the first time she has openly fanned out over her costar, either, having previously gone on about how he’s the best kisser. There’s been so much gushing that rumors are swirling about an on-set ‘flirt fest’ between the costars.

When JLo was sent the script, it was an easy yes for her, and her producing partner, Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas. They instantly loved the humor of the film. It’s a good thing, too, as the rom-com was only happening on one big condition. Lopez explained:

If she hadn't said yes, who knows how long fans would have had to wait for another Jennifer Lopez romantic comedy? After all, her last movies in this genre were the 2022 rom-com Marry Me, which also starred Owen Wilson, and Shotgun Wedding, which came out the same year and starred Josh Duhamel. So, it's about time she returns to rom-coms.

Speaking about her history in the genre and this new film, JLo gushed about how funny Office Romance is and how excited she is for fans to see the movie, describing it as:

It’s hard to keep celebrity relationship rumors at bay, and that’s something Jennifer Lopez and Brett Goldstein have faced with their upcoming Netflix movie. Office Romance is set to hit the 2026 movie calendar in just a few weeks, and regardless of whether or not they actually were involved off-camera, JLo certainly has had a lot of complimentary things to say about her co-star. Not only did she call Goldstein “the best kisser,” but she revealed what surprised her about him.

Anyone who’s seen the Office Romance trailer can tell there’s a spark between the lead couple, and that’s something that Jennifer Lopez acknowledged when she spoke about her co-star at Netflix's Upfronts. She told People:

Fans have been particularly excited about the upcoming rom-com after reports that it was a “flirt fest” between JLo and Brett Goldstein between takes. The actor is famously private about his love life, and the headlines involving a possible romance between him and Jennifer Lopez in the wake of her divorce from Ben Affleck actually made some aspects of Office Romance a “nightmare” for him.

I can’t wait to see him opposite Jennifer Lopez in their new movie, which will be available to stream with a Netflix subscription starting Friday, June 5.

Romantic comedies are a beloved genre in the film world, and there are few that do it quite as successful as Jennifer Lopez. Some of JLo's best movies are rom-coms, and she's got another one coming with Office Romance (which will be available with a Netflix subscription). Her chemistry with Ted Lasso star Brett Goldstein is electric, but did this footage basically give away the entire movie?

It remains to be seen if Office Romance ends up being one of JLo's best rom-coms, but the above trailer is definitely compelling. The movie was written for Lopez, but I'm worried that the trailer revealed too much. After all, we saw as she and Goldstein met, fell for each other, and eventually the drama that'll presumably happen in act three. I mean, am I crazy here?

This trailer opens on Brett Goldstein's Daniel Blanchflower as he seemingly has his first day at an airline called AirCruz. He's warned about what a hardass the boss is aka Jennifer Lopez's character Jackie Cruz. She's teased to be a Miranda Priestly-esque character, but he seems smitten the minute they meet for the first time.

We see as the pair start working together. And while Daniel clearly has an insta-crush, Jackie tries to keep things professional between the two of them. Try being the operative word, as feelings grow between the two until they eventually dance together in the Dominican Republic during a work trip. The dancing leads to kissing, and the titular Office Romance begins between the pair of coworkers.

While this is only a trailer I have to say that I'm impressed by how great the chemistry is between Lopez and Goldstein. It bursts off the screen, with their characters unable to keep their hands off each other in the office. Unfortunately, this ends up being a big part of the conflict that's revealed later in the clip.

Eventually folks around the office notice that there's something between the pair, leading AirCruz's Board of Directors to call in JLo's Jackie for an emergency meeting. They threaten to throw her out of the company, with Daniel willing to lose his job in order to protect her (and their relationship).

While every romantic comedy needs to have conflict, I'm surprised by how much of the movie's plot was seemingly shown in the Office Romance trailer. These scenes will obviously be expanded and the narrative will go further than this limited footage, it feels like pretty much the entire movie's story has been revealed. So I hope there are some surprises when I eventually stream the title upon its release this summer.

All will be revealed when Office Romance hits Netflix on June 5th as part of the 2026 movie release list. I personally can't wait to see Jennifer Lopez and Brett Goldstein's chemistry in full when streaming the forthcoming rom-com.

We officially have our first teaser trailer for Ted Lasso Season 4, and even though it’s short, it sparked a whole lot of thoughts. In fact, in the span of its one-minute and change runtime, I was specifically left with two questions I hope the show answers right when it returns on the 2026 TV schedule.

Did Ted Return To Richmond In A Way That Lets His Son Stay With Him?

The whole reason Ted left AFC Richmond at the end of Ted Lasso Season 3 was to be with his son, Henry. So, for him to go back across the pond, I’d assume they need to find a way to keep the coach and his family, specifically his son, together. To me, if they don’t, it will feel like a disservice to the way things were left the last time we checked in with the optimistic coach.

However, I really think they will find a way to do this. For Season 4, they’ve recast Henry – Grant Feely plays him now – and in the trailer, we get to see him as well as Ted’s ex-wife in the stands. Ted’s son has also appeared in images released for Season 4, which seems to imply that he’ll play a bigger role in this story.

So, that leaves me hopeful that they’ve found a way for Jason Sudeikis' character to coach this team he loves while keeping the people he loves the most close. I want Ted to be happy first and foremost, and I think he needs this team and his family to do that, so hopefully they stay together this time.

What’s Going On With Roy And Keeley?

When Season 3 ended, Roy and Keeley were in a fine-ish place, but they weren’t together. However, this teaser seems to allude to the idea that something is going on, and I can’t tell if it’s good or bad. Toward the start of the footage, Brett Goldstein and Juno Temple’s characters give each other a longing look that confused me, and it made me wonder if they’re keeping a secret. And Higgins confused reaction to this look further confirmed that yes, I should be reading into this with a bit of caution.

Then, later in the trailer, we get to see Roy and Keeley in a car together, as Goldstein’s character smashes a sunroof in. Why were they in the car together? Are they stuck? What were they so dressed up for? Was it a work function or a date? The questions just keep coming based on these few seconds, and I’m hopeful that we’ll get some clarity about the state of their relationship as the great Apple TV series returns.

Obviously, I have more than two questions about Ted Lasso coming back, as we got to see the new women's team and coach as well as other beloved characters, like Hannah Waddingham’s Rebecca (who seems to be with that pilot), Jeremy Swift’s Higgins and Brendan Hunt’s Beard in the trailer too. So, I can’t wait to see what new questions and theories pop up as we actually begin to watch the show.

However, these two things are what I couldn’t stop wondering about as I pondered this first trailer, and you better believe it’s what will be on my mind until I can use my Apple TV subscription to watch the Season 4 premiere on Wednesday, August 5.

Jennifer Lopez has been quite busy as of late, and she's currently looking towards the release of her 2026 movie schedule entry. The starlet is headlining the upcoming Netflix movie Office Romance, which co-stars Brett Goldstein. On paper, I love the idea of Goldstein and Lopez together, and I can imagine any studio wanting to green-light such a film. As the "On the Floor" singer recently explained, though, if not for one big condition, the film wouldn't have happened.

In a recent interview with Sirius XM's BPM, Lopez chatted about her music and talk eventually turned to her new film. Lopez expressed excitement for the upcoming movie, which Goldstein co-wrote with Joe Kelly. As Lopez explained (via People), though, if not for one major -- and very necessary -- element, the movie wouldn't have happened at all:

Goldstein previously revealed that the character of Jackie Cruz Office Romance was created specifically for Lopez. However, it's truly wild to hear that he and Joe Kelly were going to pull the plug on the entire project if JLo opted not to sign up for it. Of course, the pair could've searched for another actress, but they clearly knew who they wanted. Wit that, it's easy to imagine Kelly and Goldstein breathing a collective sigh of relief over Lopez deciding to join the production.

Clearly, there was something about Lopez that just drew Goldstein in, making her his muse for this project. She’s obviously done plenty of romantic comedies throughout her career, so she certainly has demonstrated that this is well within her wheelhouse. Lopez has such a specific allure and chemistry with her co-stars, bringing both a sex-appeal and a vulnerability. I can’t wait to see how Goldstein plays with her existing persona, while also getting something unique out of her for this film.

Office Romance follows Lopez's Cruz, who is the CEO of a major company that falls in love with a new employee played by Goldstein, and the two have to keep the relationship a secret. One of the elements that drew Lopez in was the "raunchy" script and the romantic dynamic between the central characters.

Additionally, while the film is apparently structured like a classic romantic comedy, it has a lot more edge than the work Lopez has done in years past. With that, it presents a new challenge for the Maid in Manhattan star. Despite he busy start having back-to-back projects, it was a priority for her to make this latest film happen.

Based on everything being reported, it seems like Office Romance was well worth the commitment. Lopez revealed Goldstein was the best on-screen kiss she'd ever had, and Goldstein has also been complimentary, confessing to crushing on Lopez before shooting the movie with her.

I'm personally excited to see how this flirty off-screen conversation translates to on-screen chemistry, and to see why Jennifer Lopez was the only possible candidate for this buzzy new rom-com. Brett Goldstein is an excellent writer, so I trust his sensibilities and have high hopes that we have an instant classic of a rom-com coming up.

After a three-year absence, Ted Lasso is finally returning this year, with Season 4 set to premiere on the 2026 TV schedule this summer. However, there will be a handful of familiar faces from the previous three seasons absent, including Phil Dunster, who played Jamie Tartt. The good news, though, is that we’ll still see him on our small screens this year thanks to a new HBO comedy, and his former Ted Lasso co-stars Brett Goldstein and Hannah Waddingham are doing right by their man and hyping it up.

Next month, Dunster will star alongside Steve Carrell in Rooster, which was actually co-created by Bill Lawrence, the same man who gave us Ted Lasso. So there was at least one familiar face Dunster got to work with on this new project, and he shared some Rooster pictures on Instagram:

It didn’t take long for Hannah Waddinham and Brett Goldstein to show him some love in the comments section. The actress, who plays Rebecca Welton on Ted Lasso, said:

And while Roy Kent had a contentious relationship with Jamie Tartt during the first three Ted Lasso seasons, the same can’t be said for Goldstein and Dunster in real life. The former showed his support with this:

Rooster stars Steve Carell as Greg Russo, a best-selling author who has a complicated relationship with his daughter Katie, a college professor played by Charly Clive. Phil Dunster plays Katie’s ex-husband, who left her for a grad student. Suffice it to say that Carell and Dunster’s characters won’t get along (Greg refers to his former son-in-law as a “bad person” whom he hates), but hopefully the actors themselves had a delightful time working with each other.

These two are joined in Rooster’s main cast by Danielle Deadwyler, John C. McGinley and Lauren Tsai, and the recurring cast includes Annie Mumolo, Connie Britton, Robby Hoffman and Scott MacArthur. Bill Lawrence created the series with Matt Tarses, and it will run for 10 episodes on a weekly basis. It’ll be good to see Phil Dunster back on TV again, and this pairs nicely with the recent announcement of him joining the How to Train Your Dragon 2 cast. Still, it’s a shame we won’t see him performing on opposite Brett Goldstein and Hannah Waddingham, as well as Jason Sudeikis, Juno Temple, Jeremy Swift and Brendan Hunt, in Ted Lasso Season 4. If Season 5 happens, maybe it could be arranged for Dunster to make a guest appearance as Jamie.

Season 2 of Shrinking saw both Alice (Lukita Maxwell) and Jimmy (Jason Segel) forgive Louis (Brett Goldstein), the man who caused Tia's death. However, we never saw Tia’s best friend, Gaby (Jessica Williams), forgive him. In Season 3, which just began airing on the 2026 TV schedule, though, Williams’ character did get to confront him. So, I asked her about the assertive moment, and she told me the story behind filming it with the Ted Lasso star.

I had been wondering for all of Season 2 how Gaby would feel about Louis, and I was so happy when they finally had a conversation in Season 3. Of course, it wasn’t exactly a nice talk, as Gaby fully called him out over what happened to her best friend and how he's been living since then. However, it was needed. Thinking about all that, and how emotionally taxing it must have been to film, I asked Jessica Williams about working on it with Goldstein. In response, she said:

Obviously, she’s joking here. As Season 3 of Shrinking is coming out, Season 4 of Ted Lasso is in the works, and it's set to premiere this summer. So, it tracks that Goldstein couldn’t stick around as much to play Louis because he’s also reprising his role as Roy Kent.

However, in all seriousness, Williams told me just how involved Goldstein was in this moment and how vital it was for Gaby.

She explained that she could not fathom the idea of her character forgiving him. While Alice and Jimmy could make peace with him, she could “not reconcile it” for Gaby. So, she’d had conversations with co-creator Bill Lawrence about getting a scene between her and Louis that was confrontational.

The Booksmart actress explained that the goal was to actually get this moment in Season 2. However, ultimately, the timing didn’t work out. Williams told me that all that “made sense.” But when Season 3 came around, it was time to bring this interaction back into the conversation. Recalling a talk she had with Lawrence about it, the Emmy-nominated actress said:

Brett Goldstein is so involved in Shrinking. Not only does he play Louis, but he’s also the co-creator of the series and has written a handful of episodes, including this one. So, all around, he felt like the perfect scene partner to support Williams through this emotional moment.

However, he wasn’t the only one on set, obviously, and Williams told me how she and the crew worked together on this scene specifically. Noting how it was different from a typical workday, the actress explained:

It is a very heavy moment in the show, as Gaby does not hold back how hurt she is as she talks to Louis. Speaking about those words, Jessica Williams said it was actually “really easy to memorize” because of how well-written they were.

Overall, this felt like a much-needed moment of confrontation and catharsis for Gaby. It also served as an effective exit for Louis, seeing as Goldstein had to go work on Ted Lasso, according to Williams. Speaking further to the importance of this interaction between the two characters, the actress said:

Truly, this moment was needed for Gaby. While Jimmy and Alice had their moments with Louis last season, she never did. And frankly, she was incapable of having the same kind of relationship with him. So, Jessica Williams made that very clear, and they made it happen.

Now, I’ll be curious to see how this interaction impacts her relationships with Louis, Alice and Jimmy. We’ll get to find out soon, though, because Shrinking airs every Wednesday on Apple TV.

Jennifer Lopez has starred in some of the best rom-coms, and she’s performed opposite some of the most swoon-worthy men in Hollywood. That means she’s kissed a lot of them, too. So, during an interview, she was asked about who the best kisser is, and her response has me even more excited about the rom-com she’s working on with Brett Goldstein.

This conversation came up because Jennifer Lopez was asked who her best on-screen kiss was with while playing a game on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen. The host named some of her co-stars, like George Clooney, Ralph Fiennes and Matthew McConaughey. However, it was the actress’s newest on-screen love interest who took the title, as she said:

Wow! That’s a pretty high compliment coming from the woman who starred in movies like Maid in Manhattan, Out of Sight and The Wedding Planner. However, I have to admit, Office Romance has had my interest piqued for quite some time, and I feel like it has the potential to be a great romantic comedy.

For starters, Brett Goldstein wrote the rom-com for JLo. He co-wrote the script with Ted Lasso’s co-creator Joe Kelly, and he explained that as they were working on it, they wanted to create a film for “the best rom-com actress.” That actress, according to them, is Jennifer Lopez. Considering they went into this project with that mindset, I’ve had a whole lot of hope that it would be fantastic.

Now, the Kiss of the Spider Woman’s latest comments have me even more excited. Seriously, she’s performed opposite some of Hollywood’s finest leading men. So, for her to say Goldstein is the best is high praise.

However, if you’ve seen his prior work, you’d know he is a great romantic actor. I mean, in Ted Lasso, his character Roy’s romance with Keeley was one of the reasons why the show is one of Apple TV’s best series. Also, his new movie, All of You, which is also available with an Apple TV subscription, shows that he is more than capable of being a great romantic lead.

Now, I can’t wait to see him and Lopez in Office Romance. As a fan of Goldstein’s writing – he has penned episodes of Ted Lasso and is a co-creator of Shrinking – that alone has me sold. However, hearing both of them gush about each other has me even more pumped for this project that could end up on the 2026 movie schedule.

It’s worth noting that, along with the co-stars singing each other’s praises, there have been rumors that they are dating, with one insider saying it was a “flirt fest” on set between the two. Those have not been confirmed or denied, however, with Brett Goldstein saying that all the attention surrounding that is a lot, especially since he’s a “very private person.”

All that is to say, there’s a lot of hype and attention surrounding this movie, and the praise Jennifer Lopez just gave her co-star is making me even more excited for it! So, get your Netflix subscription ready, folks, Office Romance is coming, and it must be next level if JLo is saying that her co-star is the best on-screen kisser.

Ted Lasso has been out in the world for five years now, and while I’d heard all the high praise for the comedy series, I’ll be honest, I just didn’t think I’d gel with it because I’m not necessarily a football or Jason Sudiekis person. Thank goodness my partner threw it on during a random evening. It took a few episodes for it to sell me, but it really wasn’t long before our binge became an evening ritual for us that brought hours of joy, laughs and even tears. Now that I’ve finished it, I can sincerely say it’s one of my favorite comedies I’ve ever watched, and a lot of that has to do with how it discusses mental health.

This show is so darn lovable, and I found myself on the edge of my seat for not only every football game, but every character development that happened along the way. But, the aspect of the series that really meant the most to me was Brett Goldstein’s Roy Kent – from beginning to end, and I need to dive into why, as I join the fandom in simultaneously looking forward to returning in Season 4 (yes, with Brett Goldstein back), and having concerns about how it could top the first three seasons. Let’s get into it:

I Love How Ted Lasso Depicts Mental Health

I’m someone who deals with having an anxiety disorder on a daily basis, and depression on special occasions, and I’m all for movies and TV shows making me feel seen, but a hilarious comedy series achieving that is pretty special. So many depictions of mental health come with the weight of how hard and difficult it is, and it can bring up a lot of challenging feelings when a piece of media decides to discuss anxiety or depression. But, whenever Ted Lasso approached these topics, I felt like I was receiving a big hug.

I felt like the show was looking me in the eye, and telling me it was OK, rather than it feeling like “Everybody Hurts” by R.E.M. was suddenly playing in the background of my life. It’s also one of those rare shows I’m just so happy exists. It’s a show essentially about an entire team of male players living in England who learn how to process their emotions better, and that feels like both the most random (and best) place for these discussions to be had on a TV show.

But, Watching Roy Kent’s Journey Was The Highlight Of The Series For Me

The real kicker (yes, pun intended) that blew me away is the writing for Goldstein’s Roy Kent, who starts as the team captain for AFC Richmond before retiring and later becoming the new manager by the end of the series. He’s the kind of character that grew on me slowly, and before I knew it, was making impressions of his gruff voice saying “Oi” in my daily life, and becoming very invested in his arc.

Don’t get me wrong, Ted Lasso has an amazing mental health arc. Just thinking about how his time with the team allowed him to heal from his wounds regarding his father’s suicide, and go back to his young son less afraid of the demons he’d held onto before? Just thinking about it makes me want to happy cry. But, while Ted feels like a unicorn of a human to me, I’ve known a lot of Roy Kent-types in my life, and to some degree my inner monologue can be Roy Kent-esque. It's so satisfying to see a show not only poke fun at him constantly, but give him the room to grow and evolve like an actual human, in a positive, but authentic way.

Roy Kent's Story Ends With A Great Message About Perfectionism I'll Be Taking With Me

This brings me to the finale of Ted Lasso, and what was so meaningful about it for me. After many episodes of Roy kind of roughing it alone, the scene where he asks to join the Diamond Dogs felt like a jolt of sunshine to my chest. He discloses his desire to change and become “someone better,” but hitting a personal wall with it. This leads to a discussion between the Diamond Dogs about whether people can change and the pursuit of perfection. Then, Leslie Higgins sweeps in with this golden nugget of Ted Lasso advice:

What I like best about the scene is how much of a pay off it was from the rest of Roy’s arc. We see him deal with his inner demons throughout the show, but most of the time it’s not really been fully explained by him. We have a feeling about what’s holding him back by this point, but seeing him actually ask for help is the best development for his character. Plus, he’s getting to a point where he wants to alter his patterns, but he hasn’t figured it out himself.

I think it’s so relatable to often not turn to help until you’ve exhausted all the options you can think of – that often leaves us in a place of cyclical pain and suffering. Seeing the light click on for Roy meant so much, especially because we had three seasons of backstory with the character.

I Appreciate How Ted Lasso's Ending Wraps Up Roy Kent's Mental Health Journey

The end of Ted Lasso leads to Roy not only becoming the new manager of AFC Richmond, but hiring on a head of mental health for the club, and he is seen having his own appointment. Season 1 Roy wouldn’t have been caught dead in a therapy session, which goes to show that change is attainable. But, what I also love is that we don’t leave Roy with every answer to his questions. He clearly loved and wanted to be with Keeley, but that happy ending didn’t materialize.

As I've learned, and will keep learning, mental health and self acceptance is an ongoing journey, not a quick fix. I love that Ted Lasso ended with Roy being human, not perfect – simply “moving towards better.”

Brett Goldstein is used to some fanfare at this point. The actor/writer’s star began to rise after his Emmy-winning run as Roy Kent in Ted Lasso, and his popularity continued after the success of his comedy show Shrinking. However, now the spotlight is about to firmly be on him, as he is set to star opposite Jennifer Lopez in the upcoming rom-com Office Romance. The duo were seen shooting in New Jersey this past spring and since then, the film has garnered interest. Goldstein is now opening up about production on the film, and why he found it to be a “nightmare.”

The British actor was recently interviewed by USA Today while promoting his new 2025 move release, All Of You. He opened up about newfound fame, and how it’s grown as the popularity of his projects have. While Goldsein is used to working with famous faces like Harrison Ford, Jason Sudeikis, and Jason Segel, it seems nothing could have prepared him for the fanfare and attention that working on a movie with Lopez caused. He explained of the experience:

Clearly, Goldstein is reflecting on making a movie with someone who attracts an immense amount of fans to a film set, not JLo as an actress. Photographers and fans can be quite disruptive amid productions on movie or TV shows, and I'd imagine that can be very distracting for the actors who are trying to work. This doesn’t surprise me, as it felt like photos of Goldstein and Lopez shooting Office Romance really made the rounds online back in March.

Despite the negative experience with the heavy press presence during production, it seems like Brett Goldstein would still be open to making another movie with the Hustlers actress again. However, as he humorously noted, such a film would be made on just one condition:

As I previously alluded to, this kind of on-set attention isn’t limited to Jennifer Lopez's films, as many movies that are shot on location garner copious amounts of attention from paparazzi and fans. The Devil Wears Prada 2 has been in such a situation as of late, as the 2026 movie has been filmed in Manhattan. While some of the outfits have been spoiled, the film's writer reasoned that the viral set photos are only increasing the hype for the movie. Chris Evans also reflected on his negative experience on Materialists, as various photographers gathered around their NYC set.

Don't get me wrong, as it's great that a number of films are being shot on location, which can help enhance the production. Still, it can be a "nightmare" for actors, as Brett Goldstein explained, especially when it involves actors who are incredibly famous. Nevertheless, I'm curious to see what Goldstein and JLo bring to their new film. Additionally, let's hope that if they work together again, let's hope Goldstein gets his wish for only exterior scenes.

Slow Horses, Season 5 - September 24 (Apple TV+)

One of the consistently great shows on television has been Slow Horses. It’s without question a reason to have an Apple TV+ subscription. In addition to each season of the Gary Oldman-led series about British spies telling compelling stories, it’s also been done with incredible speed. Barley more than three years after Season 1 debuted, Season 5 will arrive, and there’s no reason to believe it won’t be fantastic.

House Of Guinness - September 25 (Netflix)

While fans of Peaky Blinders are certainly waiting for the forthcoming film The Immortal Man, those willing to give another period drama filled with intrigue and backstabbing, and who have a Netflix subscription, will get their wish this week. Steven Knight, creator of Peaky Blinders, is also the mind behind the new drama House of Guinness, which follows the four children of the founder of the brewery empire.

All Of You - September 26 (Apple TV+)

The world knows Brett Goldstein as Roy Kent, the foul-mouthed footballer from Ted Lasso. But before Ted Lasso Season 4 arrives on the streamer, Goldstein will take a dramatic turn in All of You, a romantic story that questions the definition of the term soulmate. It will be a different look at Goldstein (who also co-wrote the film), but one that has already impressed critics who saw the film at the Toronto International Film Festival.

The Savant - September 26 (Apple TV+)

Jessica Chastain was nominated for an Oscar for a film about a woman who played a key role in taking down a terrorist threat halfway around the world. In The Savant, she’ll take on the role of a woman skilled at stopping terrorist threats at home. In this house, when Jessica Chastain does, well, basically, anything, we pay attention, so we’ll be watching.

It's a solid week, but October is right around the corner, so get ready for the spooky season to go into full swing very soon. You can be sure all streamers will be introducing new horror content, and highlighting what's already there.

And it’s also thrilling because he’s starring opposite rom-com royalty. Now, the Emmy winner has opened up about working with JLo and revealed why they wrote this role for her in a very Roy Kent-coded way.

When I say Roy Kent-coded, I should also note that this is on-brand for Brett Goldstein in general. And I say that because his explanation about writing Office Romance for JLo featured a couple of well-placed curse words. Here’s what he told E News:

While Goldstein’s other upcoming project on the 2025 movie schedule is a romance, and we’ll see him as a leading man, All of You very much looks like a romantic drama. It sounds like Office Romance will be a true rom-com, which I can’t wait to see the Ted Lasso star in. I also can’t wait to see JLo in it, because as her co-star said, she’s rom-com royalty.

Lopez has starred in some truly iconic romantic comedies. I’m talking Maid in Manhattan. I’m talking The Wedding Planner. And, if we want to throw a romance in there, I’m talking Out of Sight. Her film career features so many beloved movies centered around love that I totally get why Goldstein and Joe Kelly (who co-created Ted Lasso) wanted her to lead their rom-com.

It’s not surprising the actor/writer was so excited to cast Jennifer Lopez, either. That’s because, back in 2019, Goldstein made his affection toward her known on his podcast, where he gushed about the film Hustlers, said he loves her, and has “never wanted to be cuddled more.”

And he makes a good point, JLo is excellent in Hustlers, and she’s proven time and time again that she’s a great romantic lead.

There are also rumors that they really hit it off on set, too, with insiders making claims that it was a “flirt fest” between Goldstein and Lopez. It’s worth noting that there have also been dating rumors about these two, and while it hasn’t been confirmed or denied directly, the Shrinking co-creator did say that all the speculation isn’t his favorite thing, and that he’s a “very private person.”

So, let’s keep the attention on the screen. Office Romance should hit the 2026 movie schedule at some point. I, for one, cannot wait to see what Brett Goldstein and his team cooked up for Jennifer Lopez, because just the casting alone has me thrilled about this upcoming rom-com and ready to curse with excitement, just like the man who wrote this film.

But, he’ll soon be leading man material in a new romance movie for the streamer called All of You. We got to see the chemistry Goldstein and Imogen Poots show in the trailer; so, now, the British actor is getting real about shooting those “very steamy” sex scenes. However, I didn’t expect rotten vegetables to come into the story!

The first look at the futuristic flick All of You was enough to convince me to put the new streaming movie on my watchlist. Starring, co-written, and co-produced by Brett Goldstein, he plays a man who develops a spark with his best friend, only for a test to match her up with her supposed soulmate.

So, ahead of the film's release on the 2025 movie schedule, the actor spoke to CBS Mornings about the romance of this story as well as what it was like shooting the “very steamy” sex scenes with Imogen Poots. Unsurprisingly, they were not romantic to film. However, surprisingly, they were also quite gross to shoot, thanks to the location they were working at, as the actor explained:

Ugh, that makes me cringe just thinking about it. While a sex scene is supposed to be “steamy” for the cameras and audiences watching, the smell of gross vegetables would certainly kill the romantic mood right there. It's proof that what looks seductive on screen can be anything but in real life.

It's important to remember that a movie's sex scenes are typically choreographed performances, blocked out like a dance, which can be at times almost scientific and at times awkward. Sydney Sweeney can tell you about the “awkward moment” of filming Anyone But You’s shower sex scene and having 40 crew members watching. That could make anyone feel like a goldfish with all eyes watching you.

The same was said with Margot Robbie’s Wolf of Wall Street uncomfortable sex scene that involved an all-male crew being present while she was “pretending to be touching myself.” However, through great direction, editing, and performances, the final product still appears effortless and passionate to audiences watching.

As “steamy” as sex scenes go, Brett Goldstein and Imogen Poots definitely deserve their props for portraying passion while in the company of rotting vegetables. If the two leads are still able to portray lust despite an uninvited odor coming into play, that’s some great acting. Now, I’m all the more curious about how this scene and others will play out when All of You becomes available for those with an Apple TV+ subscription on September 26th.

Ted Lasso had an incredible run for three seasons, and while a lot of fans had issues with the way the series ended, it was an emotional experience for many people. It’s fairly ominous to hear Brett Goldstein talk this way. Plenty of Ted Lasso moments in the first three seasons got me emotional. I basically keep my Apple TV+ subscription now so I can re-watch Ted Lasso and cry. I fully expect Season 4 will make me cry, too. But just what big emotional moment is going to happen? I have a few different ideas.

An Episode About Ted And His Family

One big place we can fully expect emotions to run high is with Ted Lasso and his family. Ted’s son and the feelings he clearly still has for his ex-wife are a huge part of his life. In the Season 3 finale, Ted ultimately decides to stop coaching AFC Richmond for his family, and so it makes sense that the decision to go back to coaching, however his family is impacted, will be a big deal for Ted.

Brett Goldstein also notably wrote the Season 1 episode “Tan Lines,” in which Ted’s wife and son come to visit him. It’s the episode in which Ted comes to the realization that his marriage is truly over, the sort of thing that causes him to break down, and makes us cry, too. So, we know this guy can write emotional stories about the titular character, and he can do it really well.

Something Big Might Happen With Rebecca Welton

While it’s hard to pick a favorite character (other than Ted) on Ted Lasso, it’s difficult not to be in love with Hannah Waddingham’s Rebecca Welton. She seemed to get a quite happy ending in the final episode of Season 3, but now I’m afraid there might be something sad on the horizon for her.

Godstein mentions that he’s co-writing this mystery episode with Jamie Lee. She’s responsible for three other episodes of the series, and all three of them, “For the Children,” “Man City,” and “Signs,” are particularly important episodes for the character of Rebecca. Perhaps something will happen in her relationship, assuming she’s still in one.

Could This Signal Nate’s Return To Ted Lasso After All?

Finally, I’ll throw out my most radical theory, but one that I like: could Brett Goldstein be writing the return of Nate? Up to this point, it’s unclear if we’ll see Nate the “Wonder Kid” in Season 4 of Ted Lasso. He’s not part of the officially announced cast, though actor Nick Mohammed has made comments that indicate he could appear.

If Nate does make an appearance, but isn’t part of the regular cast, it could be here. Two of the episodes that Brett Goldstein previously wrote were “The Signal” in Season 2 and “Big Week” in Season 3. These are key episodes in Nate’s emotional rollercoaster of a story, so Goldstein has written for the good-turned-bad-turned-good-again character before. Perhaps the reason Nate isn’t a regular cast member is something that will be part of the story, leading to an emotional episode when he does appear.

Of course, anything is really possible. There’s a whole new team of players that we haven’t met yet, and will likely have their own stories to tell. This emotional episode could be about any of them just as well. Whatever happens, when the Season 4 episode written by Brett Goldstein comes along, I’ll be sure to bring the tissues.

That last question seemingly implies that there’s nothing going on between the two. However, overall, we really don’t know what Goldstein and Lopez’s relationship is like off-screen. Considering how private the Shrinking co-creator is, it wouldn’t be surprising if we don’t get to know. But you really never know, so if we learn more, we’ll keep you posted. And for now, let’s talk about what we do know, which is what these two are up to professionally.

I know that when I think of Brett Goldstein, the first character that comes to mind is the gruff and grumbly Roy Kent. In the first trailer for All of You, a romance that was co-written by Goldstein and William Bridges, we get a glimpse into a friends-to-lovers romance starring the writer as Simon and Outer Range’s Imogen Poots as Laura. We see Simon explain that he wouldn’t want to know his soulmate; he just wants to “find it.” He thinks that knowing takes the fun out of the discovery, and seemingly, after that, the two only see each other on occasion.

On that premise alone, this project on the 2025 movie schedule already has me yearning and almost getting misty-eyed. However, seeing these two cross paths over the years in the trailer, a la one of the greatest rom-coms, When Harry Met Sally, has me desperate to find out if they end up together or not.

This new footage also shows a totally different side of Goldstein as an actor. While we’ve seen his funny (and occasionally romantic) side in Ted Lasso and his dramatic skills in Shrinking, All of You gives him the chance to fully embrace his romantic side. We’ve never seen the comedian in a project like this before, and I think it’s safe to assume that he was born to be in a romance.

In the trailer, it’s made clear that his character and Poots’ Laura have undeniable chemistry, and the tension between them is palpable. However, they won’t act on those feelings, and we’ll see a years-long story unfold as they grapple with all of that.

Goldstein’s longing looks, candid conversations and gentle interactions with his co-star make my heart genuinely flutter. He’s giving Mr. Darcy levels of yearning in just these clips alone, and I fear that – to quote Pride and Prejudice – I will be “bewitched body and soul” by him when I’m finally able to stream this film with an Apple TV+ subscription.

Like I mentioned earlier, I knew the Emmy winner had this in him; we saw his romantic side on display through that beloved side-plot between Roy and Keeley in Ted Lasso. However, that show focused on a lot of other things too, meaning we didn’t get to see Goldstein’s romantic side at its full potential.

Now, it seems like we’re really going to, and this trailer tells me that we’re in for a real treat. So, buckle up, folks, because this new, incredibly romantic upcoming streaming project will hit Apple TV+ on September 26, and we'd better all be ready to fall head over heels in love with Imogen Poots’ Laura, Brett Goldstein’s Simon and their love story.

About two years after Ted Lasso’s Season 3 finale and the presumed ending of the Apple TV+ comedy, it was announced that the series will indeed be returning. It’s unknown when, and we don't know who will be part of it yet, but the fact that Season 4 is actually happening is cause for celebration. For a while, it was hard to tell if another season was possible, but luckily, fans won’t have to wonder any longer. Now, Roy Kent himself, Brett Goldstein, is revealing why he eventually warmed up to doing another season, and his explanation obviously included an f-bomb.

Not only is Goldstein part of the Ted Lasso cast as Roy Kent, but he is also a writer on the show. So he’s part of the team that's making decisions about where this next story will go. Now, while talking about Season 4 of Ted Lasso on Vulture’s Good One podcast with Jesse David Fox, the Emmy winner opened up about why he warmed up to the idea of returning to Richmond, saying:

For a while, it was assumed that Season 3 of Ted Lasso was it, but even though some stories were wrapped up, it was clear that the door wasn't fully closed, and there was potential for a fourth installment or spinoffs. Not only was there still interest within the cast, but fans probably kept their hopes up, too, that something would happen, no matter how much time had passed.

Now, even though not much has been shared about what exactly Ted Lasso Season 4 will consist of, it’s clear that there are some exciting ideas churning, and Goldstein dropped an appropriate f-bomb while explaining it:

When previously asked about returning for Ted Lasso Season 4, Goldstein used an analogy about a dead cat coming back to life, and it was weirdly fitting. You have to move on, but you still hope and pray that somehow it gets brought back to life because a part of you knows this shouldn’t be the end. In the case of the cat, it wasn't dead. And in the case of Ted Lasso, even after saying goodbye, they still returned for another round.

Now, the wait for Season 4 could be a long one, but fans have already been waiting for almost two years for news on a fourth season. So, waiting a little bit longer for it to actually come out shouldn't be too painful. Additionally, more news about the new season is expected to be released as they continue developing it, so hopefully, we'll learn more about the cast and the plot sooner rather than later.

Ted Lasso continues to be one of the best shows on Apple TV+, so it’s not surprising that it’s finally coming back. It’s unknown when it will eventually return, but for now, fans can watch the first three seasons with an Apple TV+ subscription.

It was a truly sad day when news broke that George Wendt passed away. However, it was lovely to see his Cheers co-stars, including Ted Danson and Kelsey Grammer, pay tribute to him. In that same vein, it was wonderful to hear how Jason Sudeikis, who is Wendt’s nephew, Brett Goldstein and the writers of Ted Lasso commemorated the late actor after learning about his death.

Back in March, Jason Sudeikis confirmed that Ted Lasso Season 4 was happening, and now, they’re writing the new episodes. So, while on Ted Danson’s podcast, Where Everybody Knows Your Name, the Roy Kent actor shared that he was with his co-star and Wendt’s nephew when news of his passing broke, saying:

Watching some of Wendt's greatest moments from one of the best sitcoms of all time is such a sweet way to remember him. Plus, considering the fact that Ted Lasso’s co-creator is directly related to the Cheers legend, it makes sense that they took a moment while writing their show to pause, remember and honor him.

As he sent his condolences to Danson, who had started the podcast by saying, “Can we not pretend that we didn’t just start a conversation about George Wendt,” Goldstein also shared his own stories about the late actor. He noted that his Ted Lasso co-star had told them tales about his uncle. However, while working on one of the best Apple TV+ shows, he also got to meet the man behind Norm, explaining:

After that, Danson opened up about processing the death of his friend, how tragic it is, as well as the importance of celebrating him and his legacy. Well, it sounds like that’s exactly what they did here as well as in the Ted Lasso writers' room.

However, Ted Lasso’s love for Wendt and Cheers goes beyond this moment. In the Season 3 finale, there’s actually a Cheers Easter egg in Mae’s pub. They included a picture of Geronimo, which was on display in the bar that Sam Malone ran. It was in the pub for Ted Lasso's entire run. However, for the finale, they moved it to a more prominent place so it was visible to viewers.

So, all around, there’s a lot of love for Wendt and Cheers among the Ted Lasso cast and crew, and Goldstein made it clear that they loved and adored him as well as appreciated his support of their show.

Overall, George Wendt’s death is tragic. However, I’m grateful that folks like Danson and Goldstein are speaking up about his kindness, skill and legacy. So, with that in mind, you can go back like the Ted Lasso writers did and watch Cheers with a Paramount+ subscription.

I’d imagine pitching a project to Harrison Ford would be incredibly intimidating, especially if you are proposing something that's unlike anything the actor has done before, like Shrinking. Well, Brett Goldstein had to do just that; he had to try and convince the Indiana Jones actor to do the now-great Apple TV+ show. However, according to Ford, the Ted Lasso actor “blew” that pitch. It’s not for a bad reason, though; it’s actually for a pretty incredible one.

If you are a fan of Shrinking, you might be aware of the fact that co-creators Jason Segel, Brett Goldstein and Bill Lawrence offered the role of Paul to Harrison Ford, but they expected him to say no. During this time, the Roy Kent actor was sent to pitch the series to the Star Wars star. However, according to Ford, the pitch wasn’t necessary, as he said during a panel posted by reelrejects on TikTok:

So, Goldstein “blew” it, because Harrison Ford already wanted to do the series. That’s pretty incredible, right?

It only got better when the Emmy winner added some context to the story. He said he had a whole game plan prepared, but that went out the window basically as soon as his now co-star answered the door:

I wouldn’t know what to say next, either. So I totally understand where Brett Goldstein was coming from. Even though he didn’t need to really pitch the show to Ford, they did have a nice meal and a good chat, as the Blade Runner actor continued the conversation by saying:

He went on to explain that he’s “so honored” to be part of the Shrinking cast and surrounded by creatives like Goldstein, Jason Segel and more. So, it’s clear that that quick yes paid off big time for everyone involved. In fact, Ford loves working on this show a whole lot, and went as far as to say during a Paley Center panel last year that he’s “never felt as comfortable” or as confident in both himself and his co-stars as he has working on this series.

However, there’s a bit more to this story that the 1923 actor didn’t mention. According to Bill Lawrence, when they sent him the pilot, Ford asked if he was going to get more screentime than he initially had. The Scrubs creator said if he did it, of course, he would.

Along with that, since Jason Segel leads the show, the Paul actor rewatched Forgetting Sarah Marshall. Then when asked what he thought of the movie, he told a producer of Shrinking that Segel had a “nice penis.”

So, all around, this tale of casting Harrison Ford is hilarious and wonderful. Even though Brett Goldstein didn’t know what to say during his pitch, his colleague's mind was already made up.

When Season 3 of Ted Lasso ended in 2023, it felt like the show could be over. While there were ways to continue AFC Richmond’s story, it was unclear if that would actually happen. Well, now, it’s actually happening, and Hannah Waddingham opened up about that and shared an exciting detail about Season 4.

Back in March, Jason Sudeikis confirmed that Season 4 of Ted Lasso was happening after months of rumors and speculation about the show’s potential return. Since then, some of the cast have shared thoughts on returning to Richmond, and that includes Hannah Waddingham. During an interview with Capital FM, she was asked about returning to play Rebecca, and in response, she said:

This sentiment goes along with other things that have been said about Ted Lasso Season 4. Specifically, Brett Goldstein told a story about a seemingly dead cat that made the same point. He explained that he had a friend who thought his cat had died, and his family had mourned and buried the cat. However, it turned out to be a different cat, and eventually their pet did return home.

Connecting that to Ted Lasso, the Roy Kent actor explained that he felt like that kid as this show returns more than two years after it ended. As he said, they “all cried” and “had a funeral,” but now they’re returning.

During that interview, Goldstein also reiterated a point Sudeikis made in his initial announcement, as they both confirmed Season 4 was being written. The Ted actor also noted that the new season will follow his titular character as he coaches a women’s team.

Now, Waddingham’s latest update both confirmed Rebecca’s return and a filming timeline, as she said:

Man, this show is really moving now! Considering both how long it took for Season 3 to come out and how many years it's been since that season ended, I had no clue when we’d get Season 4. And I still don’t. However, Waddingham’s update is a massive step in the right direction.

The fact that they’re going into production this summer makes me hopeful about a season potentially coming sometime in 2026. Of course, we cannot confirm a release date; however, the Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning actress’s comment gives me hope that it could come out sooner rather than later.

So, fingers crossed, we’ll get to use that handy Apple TV+ subscription to watch Season 4 of Ted Lasso sometime in the next year or so. However, in the meantime, I’ll just be grateful that this show did come back from the dead and re-watch the delightful first three seasons to get reacquainted with the world of AFC Richmond.

That certainly seems like a great way to celebrate. Movie sets are notoriously grueling, with long hours and endless takes. One can assume that Office Romance was the same way, even if rom-coms are light hearted fare. So who wouldn't want to unwind at the beach?

JLo’s leading man is Ted Lasso’s Brett Goldstein, who she’s apparently really getting along with on set, per a new report.

As the pair of stars make believe falling in love for the streaming movie, a source from In Touch Weekly suggested that Jennifer Lopez and Brett Goldstein have “obvious chemistry” oozing on set. As the unnamed insider claimed:

Now, to be clear, these two are basically being paid to flirt with each other for this upcoming film. Plus, Goldstein is reportedly in a relationship with fellow comedian Beth Rylance. Brett Goldstein co-wrote Office Romance with one of Ted Lasso’s creators, Joe Kelly and, historically, he hasn't been shy about his crush on Jennifer Lopez. In 2019, Goldstein gushed over the multi-hypenate, pointing to her film Hustlers as “the sexiest movie of the 2010s." He's also discussed how he’s “never wanted to be cuddled more” than when JLo takes one of the fellow strippers into her big fur coat in the movie.

Goldstein's also said at that point that “it’s not just her butt” that makes her attractive, it’s her “face, and her hair, and her legs, and her smile.” And, of course, he's right.

Based on what the insider reported from the set of Office Romance, Brett Goldstein isn’t keeping his positive feelings for Jennifer Lopez close to the vest amid production. Supposedly, the pair make each other blush during and in between takes. The source even alleges that Goldstein could even have a shot with JLo, should she be interested:

Of course, I wouldn’t blame the actress if she did fall for the Ted Lasso heartthrob. I can also understand Goldstein possibly being a bit starstruck, given this is JLo we're talking about. Even though this specific pairing is likely all professional and all on behalf for our enjoyment of the rom-com (until we officially hear otherwise), I'm hopeful that JLo enjoys filming Office Romance, as she moves on to her next chapter in life.

When Ted Lasso came to a close with Season 3, it was unclear if it would return for a fourth installment. While many stories came to a close and Ted returned to Kansas, there were also doors left open, setting up the beloved Apple TV+ series for a return if it wanted one. Well, now it’s coming back, so here’s what we know so far and what the cast of Ted Lasso has said about Season 4.

What We Know About Ted Lasso Season 4

Season 4 of Ted Lasso is up and running, folks! It was announced that filming began in Kansas City on July 21, which means we’re one giant step closer to the titular coach making his way back to AFC Richmond and our screens.

Along with production being confirmed, the cast of Season 4 was also revealed. We know that Jason Sudeikis will be back as Ted alongside Hannah Waddingham’s Rebecca, Juno Temple’s Keeley, Jeremy Swift’s Higgins, Brett Goldstein’s Roy and Brendan Hunt’s Coach Beard.

We also learned about some of the new cast too, and while their characters weren’t revealed, I assume they’ll be playing at least some of the AFC Richmond women’s football team. The new folks joining the cast include: Tanya Reynolds, Jude Mack, Faye Marsay, Rex Hayes, Aisling Sharkey and Abbie Hern.

Also, Ted’s son Henry will be back in the show; however, Grant Feely is taking over the role from Gus Turner.

Notably, some big names from the original Ted Lasso cast are missing, like Nick Mohammed, Phil Dunster and Toheeb Jimoh, who played Nate, Jamie and Sam, respectively. It’s unclear if they’ll make appearances in the show, and I’m crossing my fingers that we at least get a cameo from the beloved members of the men's team.

Jason Sudeikis Confirmed Ted Lasso Season 4 Is Happening

March 14, 2025, was the day Ted Lasso Season 4 was officially confirmed after months of rumors and speculation. Back in 2024, co-creator Bill Lawrence said this show’s return would be up to Jason Sudeikis. Then, on this spring day, Mr. Sudeikis finally addressed it all.

Verifying that a senior season is happening, the man behind Ted Lasso said on New Heights:

On top of confirming that Season 4 was in the works, the SNL alum explained where the story is headed, saying:

Back when Season 3 of Ted Lasso ended, I guessed that it could continue with a women’s team, considering Keeley’s proposal to Rebecca. So, it’s exciting to know that this vision could very well become a reality with the help of the titular mustachioed coach.

Brett Goldstein Compared Ted Lasso Coming Back To A Dead Cat Coming Back To Life

On the heels of Ted Lasso Season 4’s confirmation, Brett Goldstein was asked about returning. The actor plays Roy Kent in the show and serves as a writer, so he has the inside scoop.

When asked about how it felt to say goodbye to the show, only to come back, on Wild Card with Rachel Martin, the Emmy winner told a wild story about a dead cat coming back to life. He explained that a friend of his thought his cat had died, so they buried the body and mourned it. Then, they found out they didn’t bury their cat; it was someone else’s, and their pet eventually did come back.

After hearing that story, Goldstein was asked, “Did you bring Ted Lasso back from the dead?” In response, he said:

It’s an odd story to tell, but it also makes sense. In a lot of ways, it did feel like Ted Lasso was gone forever, and we came to terms with it never coming back.

However, it’s back, as the Shrinking co-creator explained:

Hannah Waddingham Would 'Always' Play Rebecca, And Compared Returning To An ‘Exhumed Dog’

Now, let me take you back to a time before Season 4 was confirmed, but after a report spread that the soccer comedy was coming back. In that claim, it was alleged that Hannah Waddingham, Brett Goldstein and Jeremy Swift had been in talks to return. So, about a month after that news broke in August 2024, the Rebecca actress was asked about it.

As you can imagine, Waddingham got hilariously real about returning to Ted Lasso, telling ET:

She was also asked if there was a script, and she said, “Of course, there’s no script.”

However, now she knows some things. There is a script, and Ted Lasso is filming Season 4. Right before all that, though, Waddingham was asked about coming back, and like Brett Goldstein, compared the feeling to an animal coming back to life. She told Variety:

I am also here for it! And I cannot wait to see the owner of AFC Richmond back in action and bossing everyone around as they get this new team up and running.

Nick Mohammed Is Unsure If He’ll Be In Ted Lasso Season 4

Nick Mohammed has always been quite cheeky when it comes to this comedy. However, he also keeps it real and has been clear about not knowing if he’ll be in Season 4.

When rumors about Ted Lasso’s return started swirling, the Nate actor used his X account to tease Season 4. Also, when he had to move some Mr. Swallow tour dates for his comedy show, he said it was because of “some filming.” In that clip, he asked people not to “speculate” about what this filming was for. However, he did hold up a “believe” sign and captioned his post with #tedlasso. So, read into that what you will.

That happened in January, and when Season 4 was confirmed in March, Mohammed posted this on X:

After all that, Mohammed explained that he does not know if Nate will be back. While on The Comedian’s Comedian Podcast, he said the following about the potential to reprise his role:

He did say that he’s had “dates checked,” so it’s possible. However, he hasn’t seen scripts. There’s no bad blood, though. He made sure of that by explaining why it makes sense that not everyone from the OG show would come back:

Juno Temple Explained Why Her Feelings About A Ted Lasso Spinoff Are 'Complicated'

When Season 4 reports were running rampant, Keeley actress Juno Temple was asked about them. Like Waddingham, she didn’t have any official news. However, she did share her thoughts on Ted Lasso’s potential return, telling EW:

So, Temple wasn’t quite sure what was going on. However, she did note that she’d heard whispers.

She also explained, understandably, that she’d only want to return for a spinoff or continuation if everyone was involved. However, she also expressed her interest in a story about Richmond’s women’s team, saying:

Well, I think she’ll be thrilled to know that Season 4 of Ted Lasso will be about a women’s team, and hopefully it will involve all of the original cast, too.

Cristo Fernández Had A Very Dani Rojas Reaction To Season 4 Claims

Of course, we’ve got a comment from one of the Richmond players, too. Back when Season 4 reports started rolling around, Cristo Fernández was asked about coming back to play Dani Rojas in the series after reprising the role in a State Farm ad.

While on The Cooligans podcast, the actor noted that he’d read the news, and said he’d love to return, saying:

I don’t think Ted Lasso would be Ted Lasso without Dani screaming, “Fútbol is life!” So, hopefully, this lovely actor can come back. He clearly wants to, and I bet the fans would want it, too.

Well, there you have it. That’s what’s been said so far about Season 4 of Ted Lasso. As we learn more, we’ll keep you updated. In the meantime, you can stream the wonderful series with an Apple TV+ subscription while you start imagining what could be in store for this next chapter.

Ted Lasso is coming back, and that’s thrilling. However, it’s also a bit confusing considering Season 3’s finale felt pretty...final. To that point, Brett Goldstein was asked about returning to the beloved Apple TV+ series, and he admitted that it was odd, too. Then, he explained why it felt so weird with an analogy about a seemingly dead cat that came back to life, and while I know that sounds wild, it also makes a lot of sense.

For context, Goldstein was asked about Ted Lasso coming back after going through the emotional goodbye in Season 3 while on the Wild Card with Rachel Martin podcast. The Emmy-winner confirmed that he did go through the whole process of saying goodbye, and then explained how he feels about coming back with a story about his friend who had thought his cat was dead (and yes, you read that correctly):

Weirdly, this is fitting. When Ted Lasso ended in 2023, we got a conclusion. Ted went back to Kansas, and everyone moved into a new chapter of their lives. In Goldstein’s case, Roy continued coaching at AFC Richmond, but now as the manager. It was satisfying, it was an end, I said goodbye for what I thought was the last time. However, it also left the door open for more stories.

Now, we’re getting more, and in a way, this show is coming back from the dead, like the actor’s friend thought his cat had. To that point, the Shrinking actor said:

After hearing this wild story, Goldstein was directly asked, “Did you bring Ted Lasso back from the dead?”

He confirmed that this was how he felt, and he brought it all back around to this cat who turned out not to be dead, saying:

While I can’t speak for the Ted Lasso cast, I know I went through my own little grief process after I watched the last episode of Season 3 with my Apple TV+ subscription. It sounds like the comedian did too. They didn’t know if the show would come back when they made the last finale, so they all said their goodbyes to their characters.

However, now, Ted Lasso has been resurrected thanks to Jason Sudeikis, and like this family was with the cat coming back, I think a lot of us were surprised.

So, yes, this dead cat story actually does apply a lot to what’s going on with Ted Lasso.

This wasn’t the only thing Goldstein said about the show, either. He also provided a brief, but effective, update about where the new episodes are at, saying:

Well, they’re hard at work on Season 4. That means we can really start to get excited about Ted Lasso’s return.

For a while there, like the kid with the cat, we thought the show was probably gone for good. However, now that it’s officially in the works, we can go back to being “Richmond ‘til we die!”

Inspiration can be found in everything, and in Brendan Hunt’s case while making Ted Lasso, one morsel of it came from a wild experience he had with Jordan Peele. Do you know that incredible viral bike scene Roy and Jamie share in Season 3? Yeah, that was partially inspired by the Coach Beard actor riding a bike in Amsterdam with the Nope director, and the story behind the whole situation is wild and hilarious.

Ted Lasso is known for its wholesome moments, however, the bike scene has to be one of the best. At a bare minimum, it’s one of my favorite instances in the show, because it helps solidify the friendship between Jamie and Roy in a meaningful yet hilarious way. Turns out, it was partially inspired by Brendan Hunt’s own time doing comedy in Amsterdam, as he told Uproxx:

So, if I’m reading this correctly, Peele is Roy in this scenario and Hunt is Jamie. However, it’s not noted if the director knew how to ride a bike or not, he just seemed cautious about riding with Ted Lasso’s co-creator.

The caution turned out to be warranted too, as the Coach Beard actor continued his story with the following:

This kind of chaos certainly matches that of the bike scene in Ted Lasso. However, it sounds like no one was teaching anyone how to ride a bike here and there was no yelling “For grandad!!”

The spontaneity of the activity, the chaos of it, the crash and the setting all match though. And I think it’s wonderful that Jordan Peele, the director of masterworks like Get Out and Nope as well as one-half of Key & Peele, helped inspire one of my favorite moments in one of Apple TV+’s best shows. Talk about a hilarious and very random collision of worlds.

Due to the hilarious Ted Lasso lines in that scene and the remarkable chemistry between acting besties Phil Dunster and Brett Goldstein, I think about this Roy and Jamie moment frequently. However, knowing the story behind it makes it even more memorable.

So, I guess we all need to say thank you to Jordan Peele for helping inspire this brilliant Ted Lasso moment. Every time I re-watch the show with an Apple TV+ subscription, I look forward to this turning point in Jamie and Roy’s relationship and all the bike shenanigans. Now, I love it even more because I know two artists I admire went through something similar in real life.

When you hear the name Brett Goldstein, I’d bet money that the first character you think of is Roy Kent. The comedian broke big thanks to his two-time Emmy-winning performance as the grumpy footballer on one of Apple TV+’s best shows, Ted Lasso, and to this day, he’s beloved for it. However, it turns out that wasn’t the role he was initially up for, and honestly, I can’t even picture him playing the part he thought he might get.

OK, so here’s the situation, Brett Goldstein was considered for Higgins first. He was hired as a writer on Ted Lasso originally, and he was told he might have a chance of playing AFC Richmond's Director of Communications. However, it was a short-lived idea, because Jeremy Swift swiftly, for lack of a better term, came into the picture and nabbed the role, as the Roy Kent actor explained during an interview with Jeremy Egner in the book Believe:

Truthfully, I can’t even begin to fathom this idea. As Shrinking proved, Goldstein is capable of playing any character extremely well. However, in the world of Ted Lasso he is Roy Kent and Jeremy Swift is Higgins, and that’s that.

Can you see Goldstein saying a Ted Lasso line like “Ceaser you later?” Can you picture him playing the bass? I sure can’t…however, I would like to see it. Regardless, we don’t live in that parallel universe.

Now to make this story even wilder, Goldstein wasn’t the only person who auditioned for this role. Multiple primary players in the Ted Lasso cast were considered to play Rebecca’s right-hand man first. Both Nick Mohammed (who ended up playing Nate) and Phil Dunster (who ultimately landed the role of Jamie Tartt) were on that list. Honestly, that just makes this whole situation even more bananas, because I can’t picture any of them as Higgins at all.

That’s all a great compliment to how phenomenal all these guys are in their respective roles. Each member of the Ted Lasso ensemble made a massive mark as their characters, and to this day they are remembered fondly for them.

So, overall, thank goodness Jeremy Swift was cast as Higgins. And thank goodness Brett Goldstein wasn’t and decided to put himself up for Roy Kent instead. The show wouldn’t be what it is without them in these specific roles, and in the end, I’m overjoyed that this all shook out the way it did.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has become so big that the word “universe” now truly applies. There are so many characters, worlds, multiverses, and magic MacGuffins to keep track of that it can be difficult for even the biggest fan to keep everything straight. In fact, the MCU has so many characters that many of them have been introduced, only to have nothing else to do since. An internet user recently pointed that out and, afterwards, fans didn't hold back their thoughts.

A tweet recently went viral for spotlighting what it called the “current MCU trend" of introducing new characters in big and important ways, only to have them disappear from the narrative. This included Harry Styles' appearance as Eros and Brett Goldstein’s debut as Hercules among others…

The post clearly struck a nerve, as it has been viewed nearly six million times at time of writing. And, to be fair, it’s not wrong. Nothing has happened with these characters since their initial introductions, despite some of them appearing years ago. And they’re not the only ones, as some of the comments have added others to the list…

It would be easy to forget that some of these characters even made appearances in the MCU. Both Hercules and Eros appeared during post-credits sequences, as did the scene that confirmed that Kit Harrington's Dane Whitman would be the Black Knight. Hulk’s son, Skaar, also made a brief appearance at the end of She-Hulk: Attorney At Law but in a blink-and-you-’ll-miss-it sort of way. One X user claimeg they didn't (and still don't) even know who these characters are:

It seems clear that the MCU may be a bit overstuffed. These characters debut, but then all the films that have been released since are about other characters, so there’s no place to continue these stories. This is too bad because at least one fans clearly want to see some of these characters again. Check out what another X user said…

In the case of Kit Harrington’s Black Knight, it feels like there was at least a plan to use him in the upcoming Blade movie, as we heard the voice of Mahershala Ali in the post-credits scene of Eternals. However, since Blade has seen delay after delay, nothing has ever come of it.

With the others, however, it feels like characters were quickly introduced just to have them on hand if and when they’d be needed. And some of the fans responding to the original post are just fine if we never see these characters again. Another X user said...

Of course, it should be said that introducing characters only to not use them, or not use them for a long time, as pointed out by another fan on X. As with so many characters from The Incredible Hulk finally returning in Captain America: Brave New World, we’ve had instances of characters being dormant for extended periods since the early days of the MCU. The aforementioned fan said...

There are certainly a lot of open plot threads in the MCU and a lot of characters who haven’t had much to do. Perhaps some of them will appear in the next Avengers movie or in some other future project. All we can say is there are certainly still plenty of players on the board.

In the meantime, use a Disney+ subscription to stream the various Marvel movies and TV shows in which these briefly introduced characters appeared.

It’s hard to picture Brett Goldstein playing Hagrid in the upcoming Harry Potter series. However, if casting rumors are to be believed, it’s within the realm of possibility. So, as we ponder what it’d look like to see the Ted Lasso actor play the lovable half-giant, a trio of VFX artists and YouTube creators broke down how the Harry Potter team made Hagrid look so big in the OG movies, and it feels like this could help the actor pull off the role in the upcoming series if he lands it.

Calling it “one of the most important visual effects” in the films, Corridor Crew’s and VFX artist Jordan Allen said Hagrid is supposed to be 8’6”. However, no one is that tall in real life, plus, the late Robbie Coltrane, who played Hagrid in the films, is 6’1” and Goldstein, who is apparently being considered for the part, is 5’11”.

So, through a big mix of practical effects and CGI, the creative team was able to make Hagrid with great success in the Harry Potter movies, and Niko Pueringer partially explained how through an analysis of a shot of Harry and Hagrid at the train station:

Then, after chatting about how they filmed scenes of Hagrid walking with the kids by doing one shot with him and one shot with just the children, Jordan Allen explained a few different ways they could have pulled off this incredible visual effect. He said:

While watching a behind-the-scenes featurette of the films, they discussed the fact that a body double was also used during production. Allen called it the “giant Hagrid suit,” and explained that Martin Bayfield, a 6’10” rugby player, wore it and a massive headpiece called a “dead head” that looked like Coltrane. He had the perfect proportions for the role, and between him, fancy camera work and Coltrane’s performance, they could make Hagrid look like a real giant on screen.

This is all entirely possible with Brett Goldstein if he is indeed cast as Hagrid. They could have the Shrinking co-creator do exactly what Coltrane did. Then, through a mix of practical effects, precise camera and shot choices as well as CGI (which is notably much better now than it was in the early 2000s) they could really make this work well.

As we’ve learned from watching Goldstein in Shrinking, he’s so much more than the grumbly Roy Kent, and he totally has what it takes to play the lovable gamekeeper. Plus, while fans are worried about the height situation, since Coltrane was quite a bit bigger than the comedian, this explanation of how they filmed Hagrid in the movies puts that problem to rest. As Pueringer said, he could be “three feet tall, and you wouldn’t be able to tell.” So, when it comes to casting Hagrid, height isn’t necessarily a problem.

Now, the question becomes: Will Brett Goldstein actually get cast as Hagrid? At the moment, no official casting has been announced. However, along with this rumor, it’s been alleged that Mark Rylance is a frontrunner for Dumbledore while Paapa Essiedu is being eyed for Snape. Plus, they are auditioning tens of thousands of kids for the lead roles. So, hopefully, as they get closer to starting production this summer, we’ll learn more about the cast and how they plan to tackle Hagrid as well as his literally and emotionally massive presence.

The new Harry Potter TV series for Max is scheduled to start shooting its first season next summer, and so the hunt for the new story’s cast is currently underway. Thousands of kids reportedly auditioned for the lead roles of Harry, Ron, and Hermione, and a couple of key adult roles are reportedly circling actors. Interestingly, Ted Lasso star Brett Goldstein is allegedly one of the actors being considered, which was not on my bingo card.

While Brett Goldstein has had a successful career across the pond, most U.S. viewers know him as the foul-mouthed Roy Kent on the Apple TV+ series Ted Lasso. Maybe that’s why the idea of Goldstein appearing in the new Harry Potter series seems so strange. And yet, Deadline reports that Goldstein is being eyed for a significant part in the new series, as one of its more lovable characters.

Could Brett Goldstein Be The New Hagrid?

The report claims that Brett Goldstein could end up playing Rubeus Hagrid, gamekeeper of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Hagrid is a half-giant who we learn later in the novels found himself expelled from the school but was kept on by a sympathetic Dumbledore. The role was famously played in the film franchise by the late Robbie Coltrane.

Even outside of Ted Lasso Brett Goldstein’s work has primarily been in comedy, and while Harry Potter certainly has its funny moments, and Hagrid is key to many of them, the story is still fairly dramatic overall. People will certainly see Goldstein in a new light if he ends up taking on the part.

Brett Goldstein is only a few years younger than Robbie Coltrane was when he began playing Hagrid. Interestingly, Goldstein is significantly younger than Hagrid is supposed to be in the books, though he could be aged up with makeup. Many of the other cast reportedly being considered are younger than than the actors who played the roles in the films, which is more accurate to the Harry Potter books.

Who Else Is Being Considered For The Harry Potter Series?

If we assume that the various rumors are true, then Brett Goldstein has the potential to join some other incredible actors who are reportedly being considered for roles as the various Hogwarts teachers. The first big name to surface was Mark Rylance who it’s being said could play Dumbledore in the series. Mark Strong has also had his name attached to the role.

Paapa Essiedu could play Professor Snape, played memorably by Alan Rickman in the movies. Both Sharon Horgan and Rachel Weisz are allegedly under consideration for the part of Professor McGonagall.

While it’s been reported that some of these actors may have been offered the roles they’re attached to, it does not appear that any of the roles have been accepted yet, so even if all these rumors are entirely true, that doesn't mean we’ll actually see any of them happen.

“Coach, I got a feeling we’re not in Kansas anymore,” is a funny line Ted Lasso says to Coach Beard right when they get to London. That’s a very obvious nod to The Wizard of Oz and the AFC Richmond coach being from Kansas. However, it turns out that the connections between the classic film and the incredible Apple TV+ show run a lot deeper than that, Brett Goldstein recently explained. Now, I really need to re-watch the show with all this in mind.

Considering the well-reviewed Wicked is dominating the 2024 movie schedule, its predecessor, The Wizard of Oz, is also being brought up in many conversations. This includes one Goldstein had with EW about Ted Lasso and its inspirations. When asked, the writer and Roy Kent actor quickly confirmed that the 1939 film 100% parallels the comedy, and he pointed out some Easter eggs in the show too, saying:

Along with all the references, Ted’s story also parallels Dorothy’s. As we saw at the end of Ted Lasso Season 3, he found that there really is “no place like home” as he left the UK to go back to Kansas. While he didn’t click any ruby slippers, and he took a nice flight home, the sentiment of him finding himself with AFC Richmond and developing a new appreciation for his home reflects the journey Dorothy goes on.

However, it wasn’t just Ted’s story that mirrored The Wizard of Oz's characters, as the Roy Kent actor continued to draw connections, saying:

Now, I really need to rewatch the show and pay attention to the arcs of the rest of the Ted Lasso cast!

While I always saw the connection Ted shared with Dorothy, I didn’t think much beyond that. However, Goldstein’s comment makes so much sense.

In the series, Roy Kent spends a lot of time learning how to not suppress his feelings and trust his heart, kind of like the Tin Man. Meanwhile, Rebecca does find the courage to stand up for herself against Rupert and really own her power in a healthy way, which is similar to the cowardly lion finding his strength. Meanwhile, Jamie Tartt is a bit brainless at the start. However, by the end, like the Scarecrow, he proves to be an intelligent and caring leader of AFC Richmond.

Now, I’m so curious to figure out if there are any other big parallels. Is Rupert the Wizard or The Wicked Witch of the West? Is Coach Beard Toto? Would we consider Nate a flying monkey and the team munchkins? Maybe Keeley is Glinda the Good Witch? I guess I need to do a full rewatch of Ted Lasso now to figure all this out.

Thankfully, that’s super easy, because all three seasons of Ted Lasso are available with an Apple TV+ subscription and The Wizard of Oz is streamable with a Max subscription. So, I think it’s time to go back down the Yellow Brick Road to Oz and AFC Richmond to see these fun parallels in action!

It’s been a little over a year Marvel fans with a Disney+ subscription saw how Loki Season 2 ended, and while it’s still far from certain if Season 3 will ever happen, that second batch of episodes is back in conversation thanks to its forthcoming physical media release. Season 2 will be able to purchase on Ultra HD Blu-ray starting on December 3, and there will be an assortment of special features to parse through, including deleted scenes. One of those scenes shows how Loki goes way back with Hercules, and that in turn has me wondering when where things stand with Brett Goldstein’s take on the Greek God, who was introduced in the Thor: Love and Thunder end credits scene.

How Loki And Hercules Are Connected In The MCU

In this deleted scene that was shared by Variety, Loki is telling Owen Wilson’s Mobius about all the people who’ve said he’s a “problem” while the two men are in the Time Variance Authority’s commissary enjoying some key lime pie. Most of who he mentions are people we’ve already met in the MCU, including him amusingly mentioning Heimdall twice, as well as Donald Blake, Thor’s civilian identity in the comics and the name Loki says Thor uses when he’s on Earth. Technically that’s goes against MCU continuity since Jane Foster mentioned in the first Thor movie that Donald was her ex-boyfriend, but I’m not going to nitpick it.

Some unexpected names were also thrown in, like Absorbing Man, who was a villain on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., but has never appeared in a Marvel Studios production, and Amora, who goes by Enchantress in the comics and has never been seen in the MCU. As for Hercules, Loki says he was a “big problem” for him, though didn’t provide any details. So at some point prior to 2011’s Thor, he and Hercules crossed paths, and I’d like to learn what unfolded between them.

When Are We Going To See Brett Goldstein’s Hercules Again?

Brett Goldstein, best known for playing Roy Kent on Ted Lasso and co-creating and currently recurring in Shrinking (which can also be streamed with an Apple TV+ subscription), briefly appeared in Thor: Love and Thunder when his father Zeus, played by Russell Crowe, instructed him to find and kill the Asgardian God of Thunder. The 29th of the Marvel movies in order came out over two years ago, and yet there hasn’t been a whisper of Hercules since. So what’s going on with him?

If Thor 5 were one of the officially-slated upcoming Marvel movies, then it could be logically surmised he’d return there, but that’s not the case. It still remains to be seen if Chris Hemsworth will lead another Marvel movie of his own, and looking over what is on the way, the only other cinematic installments where it’d remotely make any sense for him to appear are in Avengers: Doomsday and/or Avengers: Secret Wars. Even that feels like a stretch, but I like Brett Goldstein a lot and would like to see him get a proper platform to shine on in the MCU, especially if it leads to Hercules joining the Avengers one day. Let’s just hope what we saw in Thor: Love and Thunder doesn’t become one of those end-credits scenes that never pays off.

Next up on the MCU slate is What If… ? Season 3, which premieres on December 22, followed by Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man on January 29, Daredevil: Born Again on March 4, and Ironheart on June 24. Movie-wise, Captain America: Brave New World comes out on February 14, and Thunderbolts* and The Fantastic Four: First Steps are also on the 2025 release schedule.

There’s no other way to put this, if you are watching a project that Brett Goldstein is in, odds are, you will hear him throw at least one f-bomb. Of course, there are exceptions – like his appearance on Sesame Street. However, for the most part, the man is associated with swearing. He loves it, and recently, he got real about whether he could write without curse words. Let me tell you, his answer is very Roy Kent-coded.

With Shrinking’s second season airing on the 2024 TV schedule, and Goldstein stepping in front of the camera this season to play the heartbreaking character Louis, the actor was recently out and about promoting it. As a writer and co-creator of the comedy as well, he’s become known as a guy who can do it all. So, during an interview with The AP, he was asked if we could write anything without swearing, and this is how he responded:

This response has big Roy Kent energy to me. While Goldstein responded in a less grumbly and explicit way, his adamant energy regarding the word “fuck” is something I think his AFC Richmond coach-turned-player would agree with.

My goodness, Roy curses so much on Ted Lasso that his niece Phoebe calls him out for it and even makes him pay her every time he drops a bad word. That energy of attempting to not swear and failing was radiating off the actor in this interview too.

If you watch basically any of the comedian’s late-night appearances, you’ll hear that bleep noise. Out of everyone in the Ted Lasso cast, he definitely curses the most. And even when he won an Emmy in 2021 for playing Roy, an f-bomb was dropped immediately during his acceptance speech as he explained that he was asked not to swear.

So, you know, I get why he said that it’d be hard to not incorporate cursing into his work.

However, I’d love to see this family-friendly project he’s apparently trying to write. Notably, both Shrinking and Ted Lasso are heartwarming and caring shows that are fun for the whole family (as long as you don’t mind some curse words here and there). So, I know he can develop a great story for all ages.

The question is: Is he willing to do it?

I guess only time will tell, but like Roy Kent, the man who plays him loves a good f-bomb. So, I doubt we’ll be seeing anything solidly rated PG from him anytime soon.

Shrinking Season 2 has been coming out as part of the 2024 TV schedule, and for once, I'm finally caught up in time to keep watching each week – and I'm pretty sure Brett Goldstein's character has broken me... in a good way.

Let me start by saying I'm the biggest proponent of this show. I've been a fan of Shrinking since it first came out and truly love it dearly. When I found out Brett Goldstein, one of the show's co-creators, would be a character in Season 2, I was excited. But never, in my wildest dreams, did I expect it to be who it is.

So, Overall, Shrinking Season 2 Is Just As Good As Season 1

I'm always concerned when a great dramedy gets renewed because sometimes the show does begin to lack quality as it goes on. There are plenty I could point to, but honestly, Shrinking Season 2 is just as good as the first season, if not better.

The entire Shrinking cast feels like family now, and they work well together, with genuinely interesting stories and moments that still make me sob one instance and laugh the next. I can't tell you how many times I've cried already during the six episodes that have come out – and I am sure it is only going to increase.

But do you want to know what a significant source of that is? Goldstein's character, whom we'll get into now.

I Didn't Know Who Goldstein's Character Would Be, But I Never Expected Who It Is

I'm sure that if you're aware of Apple TV+, you know Brett Goldstein. He's appeared in several films, but people mainly know him from his time in the Ted Lasso cast and now as a co-creator of Shrinking alongside Bill Lawrence and Jason Segel.

But now, he's also part of the Shrinking cast, and I want you to take a wild guess about who he plays – and you won't get it because I genuinely didn't.

Goldstein plays the man who killed Jimmy's wife and Alice's mother – the drunk driver named Louis. Out of literally anyone he could have played, I never reasonably expected that. I thought he'd just be another one of Jimmy's clients. The gasp I let out could be heard from apartment to apartment.

But that's beside the point. Now we have Goldstein as Louis, but where could they take his story? How could they make the person who killed Jimmy's wife sympathetic? Well, they pull it off.

It's Tragic What He Did, But The Show Makes You Think About The Other Side Of Things In A Great Way

I want to put it out there and say that it's horrible what happened to Tia (Jimmy's wife and Alice's mother). Obviously don't drink and drive, or it can lead to something like this. It's a terrible decision to make, and I'm sure we all feel a certain way towards it.

But I will say that Shrinking really takes you to the other side of what's going on with the people who caused the tragedy. Sometimes, yeah, it is just a horrible, reckless person who makes really terrible decisions and doesn't care about anything else.

However, there are other times, like Louis, when their life is "bleak," as Brian said. We don't know what exactly Louis was going through that led to him drinking and getting in his car. To us, he's just the man that hit Tia, the man that caused so much pain.

It really does make you think, though, about the amount of pain and suffering someone must be going through that leads them to make terrible, horrible decisions, and we don't know about it. And you can tell from the moment you meet Louis that he is going through it. I can't help but feel bad for him, even after what he did.

Furthermore, His Character Shows The Capacity Of Forgiveness In So Many Ways

This is what made me sob, especially in Episode 6—the idea of forgiveness.

Forgiveness, in therapy, is something that (as a person who has done therapy) is hard to come by. Trying to forgive the people who have wronged you the most in your life is a massive test of strength, but something that can really rarely be done. And personally, Louis was right – Alice had every right to never forgive him, even though he was so sorry that he thought about her mother every day, that he was going through something horrible.

But then she says it – "I forgive you." She wants to be the kind of person who does that because it's something her mom would do. CinemaBlend's Riley Utley even spoke to the actress behind Alice, Lukita Maxwell, about the moment and that Alice is trying to learn to be compassionate despite it all:

That is the kind of writing that makes you really pause when you watch it. It makes you sit there on the couch, wondering if there is anyone in your life that you could forgive to help yourself move on. That is what Brett Goldstein's character brought – forgiveness. I literally cannot stop sobbing about it.

It's just so beautiful to go from yelling and screaming at the man in one episode to learning how to forgive and be compassionate—that's a stunning message and one that this world desperately needs.

I'm Not Sure What Will Happen In The Future With Him, But I Sincerely Hope I See Him And Jimmy Talk, Too

I don't know what will happen next with Louis. There's been a lot already in Shrinking that we've seen – that big confrontation in the coffee shop, Jimmy yelling at him and more. Who knows what the next episodes will bring?

But all I can really ask for is to see him and Jimmy talk like Alice and him have. I'm not sure if Jimmy is going to be as emotionally transparent as Alice was and forgive him instantly, or even listen to him that much. However, seeing them have a conversation, even just one where Jimmy isn't yelling, would be good.

Spreading that message of forgiveness is so important, and while I'm sure that this show could have done it in a plethora of ways, Goldstein's character was the absolute best solution they could have chosen. For that, I thank Apple TV+. I don't think I'll ever be the same. That's why this show is one of the best Apple TV+ shows – because by the time you finish watching it, you honestly think differently.

When the sixth episode of Shrinking dropped on the 2024 TV schedule, I wasn’t expecting Alice to make the move she did. After Jimmy told her about the drunk driver contacting him and her confrontation with him in the coffeehouse, I didn’t think she’d forgive Brett Goldstein’s Louis. However, she did, and Lukita Maxwell told me why her character decided to do that.

As I mentioned, in Episode 6, Alice takes a massive step forward. After finding out that Brian had been in contact with Louis – the driver who killed her mom – she demanded that they go see him. Then, after chatting with Brett Goldstein’s new Shrinking character and telling a story about her mom, Alice concluded that she wanted to forgive the driver.

So, she did, and Lukita Maxwell told me during an interview for CinemaBlend that her character’s mom is the reason why she did it. She explained:

As I’ve gotten to know Louis, I’ve started to forgive him too. Then, hearing Alice’s story about Space Mountain and the Goofy hats really put me in the same place as her. After that, Goldstein’s character apologized for what happened and took fault for it all, noting that “nothing” he could do could “make it better.”

I started to well up as he said he thinks about what happened and the family he impacted every day, and then I was a mess when Maxwell’s character said:

Knowing how hard Alice is working to be the best version of herself and process her grief is so moving. And seeing her forgive Louis felt like her biggest step forward yet. Plus, in a lot of ways, it also seems like it brought her closer to her late mom.

One of my favorite journeys on this show has been Alice’s. This loss has deeply impacted her, however, she’s extremely empathetic, and she works hard to have good relationships with her loved ones. I can’t imagine how hard it was for her to forgive Louis – I mean what he did seemed unforgivable. However, it was lovely, empowering and emotional to see her do it, and it showed her growth over the last season and a half.

Now, the question becomes: Can Jimmy do that too? We’ll just have to wait to find out as Season 2 of Shrinking continues airing every Wednesday on Apple TV+.

When I picture Brett Goldstein, I see him with a beard. So, you can imagine that it was a bit jarring when Season 2 of Shrinking premiered on the 2024 TV schedule and I saw him clean-shaven. Well, it was jarring for the actor too, as he recently recalled the story behind being told to shave his facial hair in a dramatic and hilarious way.

In the midst of playing a primary role in the Ted Lasso cast as Roy Kent, Goldstein co-created another series for Apple TV+ called Shrinking with Bill Lawrence. The two had worked together on the soccer comedy, and then teamed up again with Jason Segel to make this series about therapists. In Season 1, the Emmy-winning actor didn’t perform in it, he worked behind the scenes as a writer and producer.

Well, that changed in Shrinking’s second season as Goldstein joined the cast to play the drunk driver responsible for the death of Jimmy’s wife. That part is what resulted in him shaving his beard, but he wasn’t thrilled about it, as he told CBS Mornings:

I totally get where he's coming from. Changing one's appearance can be challenging, especially when you haven’t done it in a very long time. However (despite what the actor believes) he looks good both with and without a beard.

That didn’t quell his feelings though. When asked again about what it was like to live without his beard, he quipped back with this:

Now, clearly, he’s joking, as you can see in the full clip below, but I also imagine that this really was hard for him.

I know that for me, seeing Goldstein without a beard immediately took the idea of him being Roy Kent out of my mind. And that kind of accidental typecasting was on Bill Lawrence’s mind as he told THR that he couldn’t quite picture the actor in the Shrinking cast at first because he got caught up in thinking ‘No, Brett’s more like Roy Kent.’ However, Jason Segel “rallied” for the actor, and he was right, because he’s so good in the role.

Then, after explaining all that, Lawrence joked that having the Ted Lasso actor shave for this was a nonnegotiable, saying:

So, knowing that, Brett Goldstein’s dramatic reaction to shaving his beard makes even more sense. However, it was all worth it because the character the actor has created is so different from his other roles, and that’s in part thanks to switching up his look.

After Jimmy’s explosive moment with the drunk driver who killed his wife in Shrinking’s Season 2 premiere, Alice went to confront the character played by Brett Goldstein in Episode 3. Despite Paul telling her not to do it, Lukita Maxwell’s character needed to confront this man, and what followed was a very intense moment. So, during CinemaBlend’s interviews with the Shrinking cast ahead of its premiere on the 2024 TV schedule, I asked the Alice actress about filming her confrontation with the Ted Lasso star.

When it was announced that Brett Goldstein would join Shrinking’s ensemble, his character was kept a secret. Then, in the first episode, it was revealed that the co-creator of the comedy was playing the man who hit Alice’s mom. Currently, both Alice and her dad are dealing with the grief of that loss, and running into the man who caused it has provoked both of them to lash out. Speaking about that, Lukita Maxwell told me that her scene with Goldstein was intense, saying:

While Shrinking handles some dramatic moments comedically, this is not one of them. It is incredibly serious. In the scene, Alice drives to the coffee shop Louis works at to talk to him. After they run into each other, and she asks him if he remembers her, he immediately sits down to chat. Once he starts to say he’d been wanting to have a conversation with her, she yells “Shut up! Shut the fuck up!” and storms out.

Reflecting back on what it was like to shoot the scene, Maxwell told me that it took longer than expected because of a lightning storm. She said:

So, along with it generally being a tense situation to film, the weather added an extra layer of drama. I’d imagine that holding all that tension and anger Alice was feeling had to be difficult. I also assume that the sadness and guilt Louis was carrying was hard to maintain as well. Although, I also feel like the rainy vibes might have added to the dark scene too.

However, Lukita Maxwell made it very clear that while it was intense to film this important turning point in Alice’s story, she also “loved” it and working with Brett Goldstein.

Shrinking is one of Apple TV+’s best shows, because it balances the humor and the drama so well, and this scene was a perfect example of it leaning really hard into its serious side. Now, it’ll be interesting to see how Alice is impacted by this interaction and how Louis continues to show up in the new season.

During Brett Goldstein’s time playing Roy Kent on Ted Lasso, he got to explore romantic territory through his character’s relationship with Juno Temple’s Keeley Jones. For those of you who watched the popular comedy series with your Apple TV+ subscription and wanted to see more of Goldstein exploring this kind of genre territory, you’re in luck, as it was announced earlier this week that he’ll co-star opposite Jennifer Lopez in an upcoming Netflix romantic comedy called Office Romance. In response to this news, fans have called out the adorable crush Goldstein has on JLo in real life, which includes him seeing her as a prime cuddler.

X user @BensShirt dug up a snippet from an episode of Films to be Buried With, the podcast Goldstein hosts, that was released at the end of 2019, a little over half a year before Ted Lasso premiered. In the episode, Goldstein declared Hustlers, which starred Jennifer Lopez as stripper and lap dancer Ramona Vega, to be the sexiest movie of the 2010s, and he first heaped the below praise onto both the flick and its leading actress:

Brett Goldstein (who is indeed a real person) then turned his attention to a scene in Hustlers where Lopez’s character is taking a smoke break on a rooftop, and when Constance Wu’s Destiny joins her still scantily clad, Ramona has her fellow dancer cuddle up next to her to she can be warmed up by the fur coat she’s wearing. That was more than enough for Goldstein to want his own cuddle with JLo. In his words:

I can only hope that when Goldstein signed on to Office Romance, he requested that a cuddle scene between him and Lopez was included in the script. In fact, I’ll go one step further and say I hope it was a stipulation for him to join! It may be a while we see if a cuddle session is in store for these two, but back in 2019, the Emmy-winning actor capped off his commentary on JLo in Hustlers with these kind words:

Along with their acting duties, both Jennifer Lopez and Brett Goldstein are producing Office Romance, and Goldstein additionally co-wrote the script with fellow Ted Lasso alum Joe Kelly. No plot details for this romantic comedy have been revealed yet, although the title obviously indicates that Lopez and Goldstein’s characters will fall for each other within a professional environment. It also remains to be seen when Office Romance will debut to those with a Netflix subscription.

Who knew a budding bromance on bicycles was exactly what we needed? During Season 3 of Ted Lasso, Roy and Jamie’s relationship blossomed into a true friendship, and one of the turning points came in Amsterdam when Phil Dunster’s character taught Brett Goldstien’s character how to ride a bike.

As a gift for Dr. Sharon, Ted and the coaches get the team to do a fully choreographed dance to NSYNC’s “Bye Bye Bye.” AFC Richmond’s head coach explaining that the dancing is reminiscent of a marionette because the song is on the album No Strings Attached is hilarious. However, the most wholesome moment here comes when the guys nail the dance and celebrate like their team just won a game that would get them promoted.

‘Ceaser You Later:’ Ted Responds To Higgins's Joke About Their Lunch

One of the funniest lines in Ted Lasso came when Higgins told Ted “Ceaser you later” because they had plans to get salads for lunch together. That was hilarious, what was wholesome was Ted’s reaction because he burst back into Rebecca’s office to enthusiastically acknowledge the pun.

Ted Makes Rebecca Biscuits Every Day

Ted simply bringing Rebecca biscuits every day for “Biscuits with the Boss” was already sweet. However, what makes it overwhelmingly heartwarming is the fact that the coach doesn’t buy them, he makes them from scratch himself.

Dani Wants To See One Tulip

Dani Rojas is a wholesome fellow, and one of his cutest moments came in Amsterdam while the team was deciding what to do for their night off. While some wanted to go out to clubs, Cristo Fernández’s character really just wanted to see a tulip. No, not a field of tulips, just one tulip, because “an entire field would be incredibly overwhelming.”

Ted Offers Roy A Coaching Job

Roy’s retirement wasn’t going smoothly at the start of Season 2, and being a pundit wasn’t for him at all. Eventually, Ted offers him a coaching job, and it’s in a very rom-com-y way. The two are like a perfect opposites-attract love story, minus the romance, and we get to witness that when the head coach puts his rom-communism mentality into effect and offers Roy a job.

Roy Accepts The Coaching Job

While Roy wasn’t all in on the idea of returning to Richmond at first, he eventually warmed up to it, and went to accept Ted’s offer in a big rom-com grand gesture kind of way. He literally ran (as much as he could) to the stadium, got in, and walked up to Ted like he was about to profess his love. However, instead of a love confession like we’d see in one of the best rom-coms, he accepted the job and joined the AFC Richmond staff as a coach.

The Sound Of Music Dance

On Ted and Beard’s last practice, they don’t want a big deal made of it. However, Roy and the team had a different opinion on the matter. Said idea was a full-blown performance of “So Long, Farewell” from The Sound of Music. There was singing, dancing and a massive celebration from the team and fans who were watching at the end, and it was so lovely my heart hurt.

Ted Asks Nate What His Name Is

After running into Nate on the pitch, the kit man leads Ted and Beard up to Rebecca. On that walk, the new head coach asks Nick Mohammed’s character for his name, and he’s baffled. Let’s just say the old AFC Richmond coach was very rude, and he didn’t care much for names. So, it was lovely when the new coaches took an interest in Nate and actually cared about him.

Nate’s Suggestion Box

I know I never expected to see a cute colorful suggestion box being used by a professional football team, but they did that on Ted Lasso. During the second episode, and then throughout the series, Nate the Great did some arts and crafts to make adorable suggestion boxes with his niece for the team to use.

Ted Tells Sam To ‘Be A Goldfish’

Arguably, one of the most uplifting moments in the show came when Ted tells Sam to “be a goldfish,” meaning, after processing his feelings about a bad play, it’s important to move on with a clear mind. It’s sage advice from the head coach, and it’s a line that is present throughout the entire series.

Jamie’s “Poop-eh” Speech

In Season 3 of Ted Lasso, Jamie Tartt became one of the best characters as he moved away from his diva ways and became the player and person Ted always knew he could be. One of his shining moments that proved that came when Ted took the team to the sewers to learn a lesson about letting things flow. When the team was feeling down in the dumps in the locker room, Phil Dunster’s character remembered that teaching and memorably said: “It’s just poop-eh, let it flow.”

Higgins and his family are wholesome goals, and I think we should all aspire to be like them. That is proven throughout the show. However, it’s abundantly clearest in the Season 2 Christmas episode when he invites the team to his home for the holiday, because a lot of them can’t go home to visit their families.

Trent Crimm Reveals The Title Of His Book

In the final moments of Ted Lasso Season 3, Trent gives a draft of his book to Ted and Beard. At the time, it was called “The Lasso Way,” however, Ted left a note asking him to change the title because this story was never about him, it was about the team. So, in the flashforward, we see Trent signing copies of his book, and it’s revealed that he changed the book’s name to “The Richmond Way,” which is such a lovely cap on the journalist’s story.

“Trent Cimm, The Independent,” was a cynical journalist at the start who didn’t believe in Ted Lasso. However, in Season 1, he spent a day with the coach to write a story about him. While he set out to write something that took him down, he ended up realizing why Ted is so special, and he wrote a lovely piece about AFC Richmond’s new coach.

Ted’s Darts Speech

If you want to learn the thesis of Ted Lasso, look no further than the darts scene and the statement “be curious, not judgemental.” At this moment, Ted challenges Rupert to darts under the stipulation that if the coach wins, Rupert won’t sit in the owner’s box as long as Rebecca owns the team. Not only does Ted beat his opponent, but he also gives a great speech about curiosity and kindness, and it’s easily one of the series’ most iconic and wholesome moments.

The Team Spells “Hi Boss” On The Field For Rebecca

“We spelled it, she felt it!” Ted screamed after Rebecca read the message the team had spelled out with their bodies and yelled “Hi!!!” Overall, it’s an adorable moment that is most likely guaranteed to bring a smile to your face.

Rebecca And Ted Deliver Christmas Gifts

During the Christmas episode of Ted Lasso, Rebecca invites Ted to deliver gifts with her. Not only is it a sweet bonding moment between AFC Richmond’s coach and owner, but it’s a fantastic gift for everyone as they played Santa for the day and delivered presents to oh so many children.

Roy Hugs Jamie

Roy Kent is not a hugger, especially when it comes to Jamie Tartt, so it was a massive moment when the coach hugged the player. It all happened after Jamie’s dad came in and was a real jerk, and it was incredible to see such vulnerable support from Roy at that moment.

If you didn’t think Jamie and Roy’s relationship was cemented early in Season 3, you likely were convinced after Phil Dunster’s player attended Pheobe’s birthday party. While he didn’t exactly bring the family-friendly energy to the young girl’s celebration, he was adorable as he chatted with Roy’s niece and quipped back and forth with his foe-turned-friend.

Roy Reads To Phoebe

While Roy comes off as gruff and tough, he’s actually a big softie on the inside, and that’s proven by his relationship with his niece Pheobe. One of the first moments we really get to see the two being adorable together is when Roy reads A Wrinkle In Time to her, which Ted gifted him.

Keeley And Roy Figure Out Why Phoebe Has Bad Breath

In the Christmas episode, Roy and Keeley end up going on a mission to figure out why a boy is being mean to Pheobe and why she has bad breath. It turned out to be a normal condition that a dentist helped fix, and it all ended in a Love, Actually-like moment that culminated in an apology for Pheobe from the mean boy and a sweet moment between the little girl, her uncle and his girlfriend.

The Team Puts The Believe Sign Back Together

In the Season 3 finale of Ted Lasso, the team puts the Believe sign together after Nate ripped it apart. It’s a beautiful moment where the team shows the coach that they’re going to be there for him just as much as he’s been there for them, and it was one of the many lovely ways the series closed out this chapter of AFC Richmond’s story.

Ted and Keeley meet for the first time when he’s covering up a topless photo of her in Jamie’s locker. Then, she “helps” him hang and fix his Believe sign. However, when he tapes it to the wall, it’s still adorably crooked.

Rebecca Yells Out Her Window At Coach Beard About His Dinner Choice

Before Rebecca was actually friends with the coaches, there was a hilarious moment that kind of showed her softening toward them when she yelled at Beard about his dinner choice. When I say yell, I mean it, because she was up in her office and raising her voice so he could hear her down on the field.

Roy Kent Doesn't Use A Whistle

Whistles are commonly used by coaches, but not by Roy Kent, because as he said: "I told you, my lips are sensitive to impure metals and whistles give me mouth hives."

It’s small details like this that make Roy one of the best characters, and his explanation of why he won’t use a whistle is both hilarious and wholesome.

The Dutch Pilot Does Rebecca’s Laundry

During the team’s trip to Amsterdam, Rebecca ends up on a boat with a Dutch pilot. Sweetly, during their evening together, he does Rebecca’s laundry because they met after she fell into the water. Overall, it’s an endearing little storyline that was the wholesome experience the AFC Richmond owner needed.

Colin And Trent’s Discussion On The Stairs

Amsterdam is a wonderful trip for many of AFC Richmond’s team, including Colin. He ends up having a night out with Trent Crimm, and toward the end of it, they have a conversation about Colin being in the closet. It’s a candid moment for the player, and it’s a sweet bonding point between the two guys as he’s able to speak openly and freely with Trent about his sexuality and how everyone might react when they find out.

Rebecca Comforts Keeley After She Loses Her Funding

When Keeley loses her funding for her PR agency, Rebecca is right there to support her. As the ultimate hype woman she lifts her friend up, and at the end of the scene Hannah Waddingham’s character offers to fund KJPR.

Keeley Does A Fake Press Conference For Roy

When Keeley and Roy finally decide to act on their feelings, it results in an adorable press conference where Juno Temple’s character bounces around the media room saying she’s from different variations of an Independent Woman publication while asking her soon-to-be-boyfriend questions.

Isaac And Colin Share A Sweet Moment Playing Video Games After Colin Comes Out

Ultimately, Colin’s coming out story was so thoughtfully handled and nuanced. After coming out to the team, he winds up at Isaac’s house and they play video games together, during that they chat about what just happened and joke about their dating lives, putting a sweet end to an overall lovely story.

Overall, Ted Lasso is a loving show about curiosity and kindness, and it’s full of incredibly wholesome moments that really drive this point home.

Jennifer Lopez might be having a tough time in her personal life right now, with her divorce from Ben Affleck on the horizon, but professionally things appear to be going pretty well. The 2024 movie schedule delivered her sci-fi action flick Atlas to everyone with a Netflix subscription in May, and the movie dominated on the streamer despite poor reviews. That was the second of her monster hits there, and her next collaboration will be a rom-com with a Ted Lasso star and I would like to sign up right now, please!

Which Ted Lasso Star Is JLo Working With And What’s Their Netflix Rom-Com About?

Deadline has revealed that Jennifer Lopez is teaming with Ted Lasso Supporting Actor Emmy winner Brett Goldstein for a romantic comedy titled Office Romance. The stars are also producing the film, and Goldstein (who was also a writer and co-executive producer on the hit soccer comedy) is co-writing the movie with Joe Kelly, who also has two Emmy wins for Outstanding Comedy Series for his work on Ted Lasso.

Netflix apparently won a bidding war for the rom-com, which is said to be “irreverent,” and while we literally know nothing else about the movie at this point (though I suspect it will focus on an office romance), I totally don’t care, because I’m already on board to watch this movie as soon as it comes out.

First of all, not only is JLo a well-documented rom-com queen, but we all know the woman can act her ass off in any scenario, and was robbed when she didn’t get an Oscar nom for Hustlers…but I digress. Also, not for nothing, Lopez has a very strong track record when it comes to her work with the streaming giant, as 2023’s The Mother (her other thoroughly enjoyable Netflix hit) quickly became one of the streamer’s top 10 watched films of all time. On top of that, Atlas hit the top 10 in a whopping 93 countries and has 73 million global views to date.

So, her movies might not always get amazing reviews or net gold, but Lopez clearly knows what people want to see her in, and that’s a pretty important piece to the movie success puzzle. Again, who doesn’t want to see JLo in an irreverent rom-com? I mean, really, Office Romance already sounds like a winner to me, and we haven’t even talked about the Brett Goldstein of it all yet.

The comedian/actor/writer/producer (who is still definitely a real person, as has been confirmed by Pink) won two Emmys for playing the gruff, but oh so lovable, footballer Roy Kent on the successful streaming comedy. Part of the reason TL was a hit was his performance, especially when it came to the love story between Roy and Keeley. They were adorable!

I honestly can’t wait to see what the dynamic will be like between Goldstein and Lopez, and seeing as how he excelled at writing for Ted Lasso I 100% believe that he’s going to create an amazing, odd, eventually beloved romantic comedy!

Now, he’s opening up about getting back on screen and how this new guy he’s playing differs from his iconic Ted Lasso player-turned-coach.

He will make an impact on the story in a way people won’t expect, the showrunner told EW. In the same story, the Ted Lasso actor opened up about his new character…kind of, and he compared him to Roy Kent, saying:

So, this unknown character likely won’t be as grumbly as Roy, that's my guess. And I’d bet he’s definitely not a soccer coach. Outside of that, I’m not sure what to expect, and the mystery makes me so excited. I adore Ted Lasso and I’ve seen Goldstein do stand-up in person. So, seeing a new side of him as a performer makes me even more ecstatic for Shrinking’s premiere on the 2024 TV schedule.

On top of the character generally being nothing like Roy, the story behind how Goldstein landed the part is different too. Famously, it’s known that the actor was a writer on Ted Lasso first, and after working in the writers’ room, he put himself up for the role of the grumpy and caring player. He wasn’t asked to audition, he simply reached out with a tape.

However, on Shrinking, that’s not what happened, he was told he’d be a good fit for the part, and he explained what that conversation was like:

I can’t argue with that! However, I’ve always thought that Goldstein should be a part of this cast since he is also the show’s co-creator, executive producer and writer. However, during Season 1, he was working on Shrinking and Ted Lasso simultaneously, so I got why he wasn’t in it.
