Superhero movies are everywhere nowadays. But fans who spent years watching the Marvel movies in order will remember that Sam Raimi's Spider-Man movies (which are streaming with a Disney+ subscription) came long before shared universes became commonplace. Bryce Dallas Howard played Gwen Stacy in the third movie, and recently revealed that she's still feeling the affects of her stunt work on that 2007 blockbuster.

Bryce Dallas Howard in accomplished actor and filmmaker, although Spider-Man 3 was one of the titles that helped her become a household name. During an appearance at L.A. Comic Con (via People), she revealed that while she loved being on set, the stunts took their toll. In her words:

Ouch. While Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man failed to save Gwen Stacy, the same cannot be said for Tobey Maguire and Bryce Dallas Howard. While those sequences in Spider-Man 3 looked great, it sounds like they left a physical impression on Howard. And she's still feeling those injuries nearly two decades later. Ouch.

While stunts are usually as controlled as possible, things can inevitably go wrong. Over the years we've seen extreme version of this, such as stunt performer Joi Harris dying while filming Deadpool 2. Luckily nothing that catastrophic happened to Bryce Dallas Howard, but even her doctors noticed something after wrapping Spider-Man 3. As she told it:

As funny as this story is, it's wild to hear that Howard is still feeling the affects of her work on Spider-Man 3 all these years later. It's no easy feat being the damsel in distress, especially when wire work and stunts are brought in. Now I have to wonder if other Spidey actresses like Kirsten Dunst and Emma Stone have felt similar issues after being rescued by wall crawlers. Sometimes being an actor isn't as glamorous as the public might think.

Of course, Howard has continued to be super active in her roles post Spider-Man. That includes her famously running in heels during Jurassic World, as well as the stunts and craziness that came with its two sequels. Still, I'm curious about how she might be working around the way playing Gwen Stacy still impacts her body.

Spider-Man will return to theaters when upcoming Marvel movie Brand New Day arrives on July 31st as part of the 2026 movie release list. For now, fans can re-watch Bryce Dallas Howard in Spider-Man 3 over on Disney+.

Though an exact release date has yet to be announced, Ahsoka Season 2 will be the next live-action offering on the upcoming Star Wars TV shows slate. While plot details remain a closely-guarded secret for the next batch of episodes, we do have another important piece of behind-the-scenes information to chew on. Bryce Dallas Howard confirmed that she is directing episodes of Ahsoka Season 2, and she used four descriptive words to describe what’s coming up.

Howard has been a regular in the Star Wars universe for several years now, having previously helmed episodes of The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett and Skeleton Crew, as well as voiced Yaddle in Tales of the Jedi. The Jurassic World actress brought up her latest contribution to the franchise’s Disney+ subscription-exclusive landscape during a panel at LA Comic Con (via Jason Delgado on the Red Carpet) while talking about what a “joy” and “privilege” it’s been getting to work on Star Wars. First she said this:

Well that’s a surefire way to get Ahsoka fans even more excited for what’s coming up in Season 2. The first season was notable for not just bringing back Rosario Dawson’s older version of Ahsoka Tano following her guest appearances in The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett, but also for bringing Star Wars Rebels characters like Sabine Wren, Hera Syndulla, Ezra Bridger and Grand Admiral Thrawn to live action for the first time. Season 1 saw Ahsoka and her allies working to prevent Thrawn from returning and uniting the fractured remnants of the Empire years after the events of Return of the Jedi.

I can’t say I’m surprised Bryce Dallas Howard was brought on to direct one-fourth of Ahsoka Season 2 considering that all of the previous Star Wars shows she worked on also take place in the New Republic era. She also has nothing but praise for Dave Filoni, the chief creative officer of Lucasfilm, creator of Ahsoka and executive producer on those other shows. In her words:

Ahsoka Season 1 ran from August 22-October 3, 2023, so it’s possible that Season 2 will premiere around the same time next year. However, if Bryce Dallas Howard is working on the cuts of her episodes, maybe that bodes well for it premiering earlier in 2026. Currently Ahsoka is the only live-action Star Wars TV show on the books, though the animated shows Maul — Shadow Lord and Star Wars: Visions Presents are both also expected to debut next year.

The good news is we don’t have to wait too much longer for a familiar Star Wars TV series to return, as Visions Season 3 drops October 29 on Disney+. We also can’t forget The Mandalorian & Grogu coming out May 22 on the 2026 movies schedule, and I’ll be interested to see whether Ahsoka Season 2 is squeezed in before of after that release.

Hollywood legend Robert Redford died at the age of 89 last week, and since then, a ton of emotional tributes from other actors have poured in. One of the latest comes from Bryce Dallas Howard, who worked with the late Redford on the Disney's 2016 remake of Pete’s Dragon. Howard shared some really sweet memories of working with the iconic actor in New Zealand, and I love how her sentiments provide a better sense of the man he was.

Redford died in his sleep on September 16 in his home in Sundance, Utah. Eventually, Howard posted a tribute to him on her Instagram, which featured some of her sweetest memories of her co-star. Howard explained that she didn’t post her thoughts right away because it took her “a moment to find the right words of gratitude.” As she wrote:

Earlier in the post, Bryce Dallas Howard recalled the first time meeting Robert Redford was on the set of the movie where they played father and daughter. She said she “almost knocked him over” while rolling on a scene in which she was supposed to run into his arms, which led Redford to burst out laughing and quip, “You came at me like a cannonball!” As she continued:

In addition to Redford being an accomplished actor, he also directed many movies across his career, including a movie called The Horse Whisperer, which even had a 12-year-old Scarlett Johansson in it. (In fact, she recently spoke about her experience on it and the nickname she gave Redford). The story shows how much Redford cared about animals, as he didn’t hesitate in rescuing one in between shooting Pete’s Dragon. As Howard also shared in her tribute:

When their movie came out in 2016, our Pete’s Dragon review was glowing, calling the Disney movie with our own Eric Eisenberg calling it a “beautiful, earnest family film with wonderful emotion.” Maybe it’s time we revisited it on Disney+?

Robert Redford had over 80 credits across his career starting in the 1960s. His career really started to blow up when he starred in Barefoot in the Park and Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid in the late ‘60s. By the 1970s, Redford amassed a plethora of films that eventually became beloved like The Candidate, The Way We Were, The Sting and All The President’s Men. It’s wild that his sole Oscar win was for his directing work on Ordinary People in 1981!

While you’ll see both Bryce Dallas Howard and Jurassic World Rebirth mentioned quite a bit on the 2025 movie schedule, the star of the previous trilogy will not be running with the dinosaurs. However, she will be braving the criminal element with the powers of improv in the new comedy Deep Cover.

That new project, co-written by previous Jurassic mastermind Colin Trevorrow, was a convenient moment for Howard to expose a “secret” held by her former co-star/A-list beefcake Chris Pratt. While speaking with The Times for her new Prime Video subscription exclusive comedy, the Jurassic World co-lead shared her love for how comedians are “constantly putting themselves out there.”

And while the man we recognize from Parks and Recreation and the MCU has definitely done that throughout his career, he wasn’t always the confident jokester we know today. That much was revealed in the following anecdote from Ms. Howard:

Who would have thought that the Terminal List badass would have come from such humble origins? Though looking back at the character of Andy from Parks and Rec, one could definitely see that childish glee shining through in what some consider to be one of the best sitcoms of all time. Still, thinking of a Chris Pratt who didn’t know how to win a room does feel rather alien.

Of course now fans of the Jurassic World movies recognize Pratt at a commanding lead who never seems too far behind when mentioning Bryce Dallas Howard. These days, kids who recognize him on the streets probably think he can tame a velociraptor, if not defend them from a dinosaur attack outright.

But as it turns out that Chris Pratt was just another one of us weird kids who eventually learned to balance their weird with all the badass stuff. It’s moments like this that surprise even out closest friends and colleagues, as seen in Howard’s story.

Considering she claims she “just hid” at that age, you can clearly see where the dynamic between Owen Grady and Claire Dearing came from in the Jurassic World trilogy. Of course, Bryce Dallas Howard is also an interesting tale of growing up, considering she went from a kid who hid to an acting/directing talent in some of the largest franchises in pop culture.

Will we hear such stories from Scarlett Johansson about any of her Rebirth co-stars? We’ll have to wait and see, as the July 2nd release of this new prehistoric peril will be here before we know it. Perhaps the newly confirmed cast of Jurassic World dinosaurs has a wallflower hidden among their ranks. Look, it’s summer, and that means one of two things if you're a TV and movie fan. You can either go out and enjoy the warm weather, or you can turn up the A/C and hide from the heat by sitting on the couch and watching whatever you can find on your favorite streaming service. Honestly, I suggest the latter option.

From Jaws, the original summer blockbuster, to a preview of the next big summer movie release, How to Train Your Dragon, to the Disney live-action remake you probably didn’t see in theaters, there is plenty of good stuff streaming this week. Here are a few of the highlights.

How To Train Your Dragon Sneak Peek - June 9 (Peacock)

Disney may be the studio known for the concept of remaking popular animated hits in live-action, but any idea that shows success in Hollywood is going to be copied, and here we are. This week will see the live-action version of How to Train Your Dragon hit theaters. However, if you have a Peacock subscription, you can get an early look at the film with a special Sneak Peek.

Snow White - June 11 (Disney+)

I can guess what you’ve heard about Disney’s live-action Snow White and, while I personally thought Snow White was good, I know I’m in the minority on that. What I do know is that based on the Disney film's box office struggles, you probably haven’t seen it. So, if you have a Disney+ subscription, use it to check the movie out this week and come to your own conclusions.

FUBAR, Season 2 - June 12 (Netflix)

I’m not sure anybody was asking for a second season of FUBAR starring Arnold Schwarzenegger but, if you were one of the people who were holding on to your Netflix subscription waiting for it to arrive, good news. And, honestly, who doesn’t love Arnie enough to enjoy seeing the aging action hero have some fun as an aging CIA agent?

Deep Cover - June 12 (Prime Video)

Lighthearted comedies are exactly the sorts of movies we don’t see much of in theaters anymore, but they’ve found a home on streaming services. Deep Cover stars Bryce Dallas Howard, Orlando Blood, and Ted Lasso’s Nick Mohammod as improv actors who are enlisted to go undercover and get in over their heads. It’s just the sort of silly premise you’ll only see at the movies, but there’s great comedy potential and, if nothing else, it’s great to see Orlando Bloom again.

Echo Valley - June 13 (Apple TV+)

Sydney Sweeney is one of the world’s hottest young stars, so it’s a safe bet that a lot of people will be using their Apple TV+ subscription to check out Echo Valley. The new thriller stars Sweeney as a young woman who enlists her mother’s (Julianne Moore) help to cover up the death of her boyfriend.

Jaws Franchise - June 15 (Peacock)

2025 marks the 50th anniversary of the original Jaws. The movie is viewed by many as the original summer blockbuster so, if you’ve somehow never seen it or haven’t seen it in a long time, you’ll be able to do so again when the movie arrives on Peacock this week. Alongside it will come its three less-than-stellar sequels, in case you just have to watch them all.

There’s plenty more great streaming content in the coming weeks, from a new Marvel Cinematic Universe series to Broadway performances of your favorite Disney movies. Keep checking in with CinemaBlend so you don’t miss the next big thing.

Within a vast galaxy far, far away, there are plenty of stories to explore that go outside of just the adventures of the Skywalkers. While some of them have been hit or miss, the shows Disney+ has to offer have been plentiful, and there is no end in sight of characters to lead their own stories. There have been rumors that we might see the return of Mace Windu, but now we’re hearing that we might have a spinoff that has him and his familiar purple lightsaber. Honestly, I’m freaking out if it becomes reality.

In an interview on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, filmmaker and actress Bryce Dallas Howard was asked about what actors she would like to direct. After throwing out some notable names like co-star Chris Pratt, she mentioned Samuel L. Jackson, saying:

From there, Howard took it upon herself to go straight to Dave Filoni, trying to find a way to make a Mace Windu spinoff show happen. Of course, this was also her echoing fans who have been questioning whether or not Windu is actually dead. Howard continued, asking Filoni outright the question we fans have been asking for years:

Jackson has touched on this rumor once before, stating that Mace Windu is out there somewhere, probably on the same planet as Ray Arnold from Jurassic Park. Even co-star Hayden Christianson had a comment about the rumor that Windu might be alive. Considering that the Jedi Master is part of a collection of characters that fans have wished to see more of in the prequels they originated from, it’s only natural that fans and cast members alike want to see more of him.

With the success of Kenobi, Andor and Ahsoka, a show about Mace Windu would be interesting depending on how they go about it. And since Jackson himself is all for it, it’ll be similar to how Ewan McGregor would like to return as Obi-Wan Kenobi again.

As a longtime fan, I would love to see more of the purple lightsaber-wielding Jedi. It would be fascinating, especially if he did survive Revenge of the Sith. There are plenty of stories that could be told, and it has a lot of versatility to show more of the galaxy following the events of Order 66.

Either way, Samuel L. Jackson is onboard with being a part of any potential Bryce Dallas Howard project, Star Wars or otherwise. I for one would be very excited to see what Howard comes up with, and if it will indeed include Master Windu.

Is 2007’s Spider-Man 3 the best Spider-Man movie? God, no. In fact, when ranking all of the Spider-Man movies, most people would likely put it dead last.

However, just because something is “bad” doesn’t mean it can’t be somebody’s favorite. Case in point, when I ranked the Batman movies, I put Batman & Robin at the bottom. But, do you know what? I lowkey love that movie, and I only put it last since I know that’s where other people would place it.

So, while I know that either Into/Across the Spider-Verse, No Way Home, or Spider-Man 2 would likely be considered the best Spider-Man movie, I'd honestly rather watch Spider-Man 3 any day of the week. Here’s why.

For One Thing, I Genuinely Like Harry Osborn's Story Arc In This Movie. Amnesia And All

The original Spider-Man trilogy is interesting when it comes to villains. Yes, I know everybody loves Willem Dafoe as the Green Goblin, and Alfred Molina as Dr. Octopus, but pretty much nobody likes Harry Osborn as the New Goblin, and I completely understand.

One of the many complaints that people have with this film is that it just has too much going on, what with three major villains in the New Goblin, Sandman, and Venom. But, even though Norman Osborn and Dr. Otto Octavius have really strong relationships with Peter in both Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2 respectively, neither of them have as close a bond with Peter as Harry, who has been his best friend throughout all three movies.

That's why when their friendship goes south here it really hits. I especially like this since Harry's storyline throughout the trilogy has been building toward him learning that Peter killed his dad (By accident!), which causes him to go after Peter, only to get partial amnesia after they battle.

Yes, I know some of this amnesia storyline is kind of hokey, but I like how Harry feels like a central character throughout, only for him to side with Peter in the end, and ultimately give his life to help his friends.

It’s a compelling story arc that I think a lot of people just overlook once they start thinking about Tobey Maguire dancing on a piano, but I really love it. Oh, and speaking about Maguire dancing on a piano…

I Also Love Tobey Maguire's "Evil" Performance

Here’s a bombshell. My favorite live-action Spider-Man isn’t Maguire or Tom Holland. It’s Andrew Garfield. That said, even though most would probably say that the absolute worst version of Peter Parker can be found in Spider-Man 3, it's actually my all-time favorite version of the character. And yes, it’s because of the memes.

What’s often referred to as “Bully Maguire” on the internet, Spidey goes through a sort of transformation once he gets the symbiote, turning super emo in the process.

This is, of course, my favorite part of the movie, especially when he's dancing in the streets (and on a piano), which is really the ultimate legacy of this movie.

As you could imagine, I practically covered my eyes when I first saw this in the theater. All I could think was, what have they done to my beloved Spider-Man? But, over the years (and with the internet’s help), I’ve come to love this part of the film.

Plus, I personally find Peter’s personality in the first two movies to be kind of bland (especially compared to Andrew Garfield’s and Tom Holland’s performances). But “Bully Maguire” has personality in spades! Particularly when it comes to his relationship with Gwen Stacy. Oh, and speaking of her…

Gwen Stacy Is A Nice Addition To The Series

I know a lot of people don’t like The Amazing Spider-Man movies, but out of both of those admittedly flawed films, one aspect – besides Andrew Garfield – that was never a problem was Gwen Stacy.

Played by Academy Award winner Emma Stone, she made Stacy her own, and her chemistry with Peter was often smoldering in the two movies (even though they kept their distance for part of the filming…for a very deliberate reason).

So, does Bryce Dallas Howard come anywhere close to capturing the essence of Gwen Stacy like Stone did? Not even close. That said, she’s not meant to. In a lot of ways, she's supposed to represent the change in Spider-Man as he goes from loving Mary Jane Watson to being infatuated with himself. This occurs early on in the film, where he goes against character and asks Gwen to kiss him right in front of everybody (Including Mary Jane!).

In a lot of ways, her character kind of gets lost in the story, and she's really more of a catalyst to get the events moving rather than her own, fully fleshed out character. I’m well aware of this.

That said, her being in the story does keep the plot interesting, and I like how she even calls out Peter for being a womanizing jerk and apologizing to Mary Jane. That was a nice touch.

I Also Think The Sandman Fights Are My Favorite In The Trilogy

Ask anybody who’s watched this original trilogy, and they’ll almost definitely tell you that the best fight in the entire series was Spidey vs. Doc Ock on the train, and look, I’m not going to argue with you.

I remember seeing that fight for myself the first time, and thinking, yes! THIS is what Spider-Man is supposed to be. This fight is perfect! And, it is perfect. That said, it’s not my favorite fight in the entire trilogy. That would feature another train, but it would also involve Sandman rather than Doc Ock.

Because if you remember correctly, Spidey learns that Sandman, whose real name is Flint Marko, killed Uncle Ben all those years ago, and so he is PISSED. So pissed, in fact, that not only does he want to hurt Sandman…he wants to KILL him. And he tries to! In this brutal fight, Spider-Man at first stalks Sandman from the ceiling, only to kick him into the train, and then put his face up against the train!

Now, yes, one can presume that since Spider-Man fought Sandman earlier, he had an idea that this wouldn’t kill Marko. But, who knows? He was pretty angry, and this is the first time in the whole trilogy where we actually see the hero completely let loose in a fight.

I’m aware that this was partly the black suit’s fault, but it’s still a riveting battle, and there’s so much at stake with Peter wanting revenge. Plus, to top it all off, once Sandman literally goes down the drain, Spider-Man growls, “Good riddance.” And you already know how much I love my Bully Maguire.

Plus, It's My Son's Favorite Spider-Man Movie, So, By Extension, It's Mine, Too

Nowadays, my son is a rabid Minecraft fan, but many moons ago, he absolutely adored Spider-Man. It was his favorite character.

I could honestly show him anything Spider-Man-related, and he would go ga-ga for it. But, nowadays, his passion for the ‘ol webhead has cooled. Yeah, he loves Spider-Man 2 on the PlayStation (He actually 100%ed it), but he didn't even finish watching the movie, Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Do you know what Spider-Man movie he loves, though? Spider-Man 3. It might be because it reminds him of the video game, which has a big fight with Sandman early on, and also features Venom prominently.

So, since my son loves the third film, I kind of (by extension) love it, too. It's the only Spider-Man movie that we've watched together in its entirety, and my son frequently quotes it.

For example, just the other day, I said I got water in my eye, and my son cheekily said, “I'm gonna put some dirt in your eye.”

It's for this reason, and the ones I already mentioned, that Spider-Man 3 is my favorite webhead movie. But, what do you think about the film? I'd love to hear your thoughts.

As a celeb with a famous parent, Bryce Dallas Howard, daughter of director Ron Howard, grew up with a front-row seat to the entertainment industry. It happened in 1992 when she was just 11 years old, tagging along with her dad and the cast of one of the best '90s movies, Far and Away (which her father directed), at a premiere screening in Tokyo for the royal family. That’s when she saw firsthand how intense being an A-lister could be. Apparently, Tom Cruise was pullled into a crowd of people:

Of course, the M:I icon might now be known for pulling off some of the best action movie stunts in cinematic history. Still, for Bryce Dallas Howard, who literally saw him vanish into a sea of screaming fans—it was a terrifying thing to witness years ago.

At the time, she only knew Tom Cruise as the fun guy. But watching him disappear into the crowd changed her entire perception of what being a celebrity meant. She continued:

Thankfully, Cruise was fine—because, of course, he was. According to Howard, the Top Gun star was pulled out of the crowd and carried on like nothing had happened, flashing that signature movie star smile and going right back to greeting fans. The energy, she admitted, was more chaotic than scary, but the experience still left an impression. She explained:

The incident didn’t scare the Spider-Man 3 actress away from Hollywood, but it did make her cautious about fame’s more overwhelming aspects. Unlike some kids who grow up in the industry dreaming of red carpets and star-studded events, she had zero interest in attending glitzy parties or premieres.

As her father, Ron Howard, pointed out during the panel, the Lady in the Water veteran was far more passionate about being on set than chasing the spotlight. That passion has clearly paid off—while she’s had a successful acting career, she’s also made a name for herself as a director in recent years. She’s helmed several episodes of some of the best Star Wars TV series, with her most recent project being Skeleton Crew, which you can stream with a Disney+ subscription.

Since then, the Argylle star has carved out a respectable career as an actress and a passionate filmmaker. But, if there's one takeaway from her early Hollywood experiences, she’d much rather be behind the camera than get pulled into a mob of fans like Tom Cruise.

With Bryce Dallas Howard rooting for the former MCU actress to shine (and outrun the competition), it seems the next Jurassic Park sequel is shaping up to be another thrilling action movie. Let’s just hope those dinos keep things interesting once the film storms onto the 2025 movie schedule.

Before Daniel Kaluuya hit the really big time with break-out roles in Get Out and Black Panther, he had a role in just the second episode of Black Mirror, called "Fifteen Million Merits." Kaluuya played a low-level bike rider looking to escape his boring life by performing in a reality TV show. It's a powerful performance and helped set the tone for the series. 

Hayley Atwell

Season 2 of  Black Mirror started with a bang, with an episode called "Be Right Back" starring Hayley Atwell and Domhnall Gleeson in a real mind-bending episode about a couple with a classic Black Mirror twist. 

Jon Hamm

In between Season 1 and Season 2, Black Mirror aired a Christmas special featuring its first big American star, Mad Men's Jon Hamm. It's a super disturbing episode in a ton of ways, not the least of which is just how evil Hamm's character turns out to be. 

Bryce Dallas Howard

Season 3 marked a big change for the show when it moved to Netflix. It also started with a band with the episode "Nosedive" starring Bryce Dallas Howard. It felt a first like a different take on the general premise of Black Mirror, being brighter and seemingly more upbeat. But that didn't last long, of course, and Howard's performance made it all work perfectly. 

Kelly MacDonald

Kelly Mac Donald isn't often the star of her projects but she is consistently excellent in everything she is in. She does star in one episode of Black Mirror, the Season 3 episode "Hated In The Nation" which is the show's take on a police procedural, with  MacDonald playing the main investigator. 

Salma Hayek

There are few stars bigger than the great Salma Hayak and her role in the episode "Joan Is Awful" in the Sixth Season is just perfect. She plays a version of herself, playing the character Joan and her no-BS attitude is just pitch-perfect. 

Jesse Plemons

The first episode of Season 4, "USS Callister" often ranks among the best episodes of Black Mirror, and a big reason why is the performances of the actors in the episode. There is no character more important than manipulative Captain Robert Daly played wonderfully by Jesse Plemons. 

Andrew Scott

Andrew Scott elevates basically everything he is in. Whether it's shows like Sherlock and Fleabag or movies like 1917, he also turns in one of the most memorable performances. Black Mirror is no exception. While the episode he appears in, "Smithereens" isn't well regarded among fans, there's no denying that Scott's performance is excellent and even earned him an Emmy nomination. 

Anthony Mackie

Anthony Mackie has never shied away from playing Gay men, with his first breakout role coming as a Gay art student in the film Brother to Brother. His role in Black Mirror wasn't quite as clear cut, as he played a man clearly struggling with his feelings and identity in the Season 5 episode "Striking Vipers." 

Kate Mara

The Season 6 episode, "Beyond the Sea," is one of the more messed up episodes of Black Mirror and that's really saying something. Kate Mara stars in the show as a woman trapped in the middle of a love triangle by two astronauts, one her husband, and one her suitor. It's a polarizing episode, like many, but there's no question it's as disturbing as the show can get. 

Miley Cyrus

In the final episode of Season 5, Miley Cyrus stars as Ashley O, a pop star not unlike her real-life self. Of all the Black Mirror episodes, it's maybe the least disturbing, but that really makes it underrated, if anything. It still makes the viewer question modern culture and tech, it just doesn't end in tragedy. 

Topher Grace

In Smithereens, Topher Grace plays a Jack Dorsey-type tech CEO who leads a social media company. While the episode is often criticized for its simplistic social commentary, by Black Mirror standards, Grace's performance is actually pretty perfect. All the acting performances are great in this uneven performance. 

Letitia Wright

Letitia Wright had been building a solid career in the U.K. before 2018 when she exploded on the world stage with her appearance in Black Panther. Prior to becoming a big part of the MCU, however, she starred in the Season 4 finale, "Black Museum." It's a fun episode with an almost greatest hits-type vibe, as it's filled with easter eggs to previous episodes. 

Benedict Wong

Benedict Wong has low-key become one of the most popular side characters in the MCU as... well... Wong. The same year he joined the MCU, in 2016's Doctor Strange, he also starred in the Season 3 episode "Hated in the Nation." He has a smaller role in the show compared to some of the other stars (like Kelly MacDonald) but he's great, as he always is in his many roles. 

Aaron Paul

Aaron Paul will likely forever be known first and foremost as Jesse Pinkman from Breaking Bad. There's nothing wrong with that, but Paul has had an impressive career outside of the legendary AMC show as well. One very notable role came in Season 6 of Black Mirror when he appeared alongside Josh Harnett and Kate Mara in "Beyond the Sea." It wasn't Paul's first appearance on the show, however. He had a quick cameo in "USS Callister" during the show's 4th Season. 

Zazie Beetz

Zazie Beetz hit the big time as a member of the hit show Atlanta starting in 2016. She later gained an even larger fanbase as Domino in Deadpool 2. In 2023, she got to star in an episode of Black Mirror called "Mazey Day" which broke new ground for the show, dipping into the supernatural for the first time. Though it wasn't the most well-received episode of the series, Beetz put together a great performance as a paparazza. 

Josh Harnett

Over the last 25 years, Josh Harnett has quietly put together one of the most underrated careers in Hollywood. He's played all kinds of roles, from heartthrobs to nuclear physicists. Of course, he also appeared as part of the star-studded cast of "Under The Sea" in Season 6. 

Michael Cera

Michael Cera has never been afraid to play ridiculous versions of himself. Most notably, in This Is The End, but also in the Season 6 episode "Joan is Awful." Everyone in the episode is playing some sort of version of themselves and Cera, as the character Beppe is, of course, over the top in his performance and we're here for it. 

Tobias Menzies

As character actors go, they don't get much better than Tobias Menzies. The English actor seems to pop up constantly in "prestige" shows. He was Brutus in HBO's Rome, he was Edmund Tully in Game of Thrones and he won an Emmy for playing Prince Philip in two seasons of The Crown. In the second season of Black Mirror, he played a British politician running for office against an animated bear named Waldo in "The Waldo Moment."

Domhnall Gleeson

Sure, Domhnall Gleeson is part of two of the biggest franchises in film history as a member of the Weasley family in the Harry Potter movies and General Hux in the Star Wars movies, but he's also been one of the best actors around for a couple of decades now. He appeared in the first episode of Season 2, "Be Right Back."

Wyatt Russell

Even though he has two very famous actors as parents, Wyatt Russell originally strived to play professional hockey. When injuries cut his career short, he fell back on acting. Lucky, huh? Still, he's putting together a really nice career, one that includes an appearance in the 2016 episode "Playtest."

Jodie Whittaker

Jodie Whittaker made history when she became the first woman to play The Doctor in three seasons of the modern era of Dr. Who. That wasn't Whittaker's first dabble in  science fiction TV, however, as she appeared in the third-ever episode of Black Mirror called "The Entire History of You." She is excellent in the episode, which ranks tops all-time on quite a few rankings. 

Jerome Flynn

One of the most disturbing episodes of Black Mirror came in its third season. "Shut Up and Dance" is a complicated episode, as viewers are repulsed by the characters, including, most notably, the one played by Game Of Thrones vet Jerome Flynn. Viewers are also taken aback by what those terrible characters have to do. It's a polarizing episode, but that's part of what makes it so great. 

Rory Kinnear

There are two roles that Rory Kinnear is likely most recognized for. One is Bill Tanner in four of the Daniel Craig-era James Bond movies. He's one of the most important characters from the Craig-led Bond films. The second is from the now-legendary premiere episode of Black Mirror called "The National Anthem." His performance as the beleaguered Prime Minister forced to do unspeakable things in the episode is, frankly, legendary.  

Rupert Everett

Rupert Everett has been killing on screen for more than 40 years now and though his role in the second episode of Season 1 is small, he's brilliant. He plays a Simon Cowell-type on a dystopian version of Britain's Got Talent and he, like Cowell, steals the show as a judge. 

Cherry Jones

Season 3's first episode, "Nosedive" is a fantastic episode, and a big reason why is the acting performances, including from Cherry Jones, who appears in only one scene of the show, but it's the pivotal moment in the show. Jones is one of the more underrated character actresses in Hollywood, but she's probably best known for playing President Allison Taylor on 24 and Holly Maddox in two seasons of The Handmaid's Tale. 

Oona Chaplin

Oona Chaplin comes from a family of true film royalty. Her grandfather was the legendary Charlie Chaplin. She's carved out an impressive career as well. She's best known as Talisa Stark, the ill-fated wife of Robb Stark in Game of Thrones, where she was the first death at the infamous Red Wedding. She stars alongside Jon Hamm in the Christmas special of Black Mirror in a smaller role, literally and figuratively, but her performance is sure to freak out everyone who watches. 

Jimmi Simpson

It's hard to believe that Always Sunny In Philadelphia first hit the airwaves in 2005, but it did. Jimmi Simpson has been along for most of the ride, as the oddball frenemy to "The Gang" and member of the McPoyle family, Liam McPoyle. He also appeared one of the most star-studded casts of Black Mirror in the "USS Callister."

Annie Murphy

Annie Murphy is most famous for playing Alexis Rose in Schitt's Creek and in 2023 she appeared as a strange version of herself playing "Joan" in "Joan in Awful" alongside Salma Hayek in the sixth season.  

Kirsten Dunst

"USS Callister" has one of the more star-studded casts and one of the stars you may not have even seen, Kirsten Dunst. Dunst's cameo in Black Mirror is truly a blink--and-you-miss-moment in the episode. She appears as a fellow office worker in the show and it's so brief most people missed it. 

Cristin Milioti

The multi-talented Cristin Milioti started her career on the stage on Broadway where she became a Tony-nominated actress, but made her on-screen breakthrough as "The Mother" in How I Met Your Mother. Since then, she's shined in shows like Fargo, The Resort, and The Mindy Project, as well as starring in "USS Callister" in Black Mirror. 

Will Poulter

Will Poulter seems to like showing in prestige TV shows. In addition to starring in the groundbreaking interactive "choose your own adventure" Black Mirror movie called Bandersnatch, he's also shown up in a cameo on The Bear. That's in addition, of course, to his film roles in The Revenant, Midsommar, and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3., among many others. 

Some of our best horror movies have been centered around characters who just so happen to be legendary creatures of the night: vampires. And, because of the enduring popularity of these mythological bloodsuckers, not only do we also have a number of TV vamps, but many famous actors who’ve portrayed some version of the famed, usually-human-looking beasts. Here for you now are 32 actors who’ve played a vampire.

Eddie Murphy (Vampire In Brooklyn)

So many vamps have been seen on screen that even a comedy and action movie legend like Eddie Murphy has played one. The 1995 horror comedy, Vampire in Brooklyn, saw the star play the last member of a group of Caribbean vampires, who hits New York to find a mate so that he can continue his family line.

Tom Cruise (Interview With The Vampire)

Who could forget the 1994 film that gave us Tom Cruise as the captivating and cruel (And blond!) bloodthirsty fiend, Lestat de Lioncourt, from author Anne Rice’s legendary novel series, The Vampire Chronicles? Of course, it also gave us Brad Pitt’s tortured vamp, Louis, and made a star out of young Kirsten Dunst.

Dakota Fanning (The Twilight Saga: New Moon, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse)

While there are some obvious stars to add to this list, let us not forget that the cast of famous (and soon-to-be-famous) vampires in The Twilight Saga films was quite stacked. That roster included noted child star Dakota Fanning, who portrayed the villainous Volturi guard member, Jane, who was able to mentally create sensations of pain in those who she deemed worthy of punishment.

Evan Rachel Wood (True Blood)

Several vampire-focused TV shows have hit the airwaves over the past 20 or so years, so we would be remiss if we didn’t mention the HBO hit, True Blood. Many of its stars portrayed members of vamp-kind for most or all of the series’ seven seasons, but Evan Rachel Wood made an equally impressive (bloody) splash as the Vampire Queen of Louisiana, Sophie-Anne Leclerq, during her recurring guest appearances in Seasons 2-4.

Robert Pattinson (Twilight)

Back to Twilight! It’s not worth mentioning this franchise without bringing up lead romantic vamp Edward Cullen, as well as the man who brought him to life in five movies, eventuall live action Batman actor Robert Pattinson. Despite the fact that his love interest’s portrayer, Kristen Stewart, would have dumped Edward “immediately”!

Chloë Grace Moretz (Let Me In)

It’s possible that we don’t get creepier than kid vampires in movies and television shows, and that’s what we got with Chloë Grace Moretz’s Abby in the 2010 film, Let Me In. She befriends a young loner after moving into his apartment complex, but is (you guessed it) hiding nefarious purposes he could have never guessed, which end up taking his life in a most unexpected direction.

Salma Hayek (From Dusk Till Dawn)

This might be the shortest movie vampire appearance on the list, as 1996’s From Dusk Til Dawn saw Salma Hayek play the fanged exotic dancer, Santanico Pandemonium, only for about five memorable minutes that simply cannot be forgotten once witnessed.

Taika Waititi (What We Do In The Shadows)

Undead life isn’t always filled with glamorous globe-hopping adventure, gorgeous mates who can’t resist you and other perks, at least according to 2014’s What We Do in the Shadows, which concerns the rather mundane day-to-day lives of vampire roommates, of whom Taika Waititi’s uptight and nearly 400-year-old vamp, Viago, is among.

Theo James (Underworld: Awakening, Underworld: Blood Wars)

Another big screen franchise that depended on heaps of stars to populate its supernatural world is that of Underworld. Two sequels saw Theo James play the heroic vampire, David, heir to one of the main vamp covens, and lead Selene’s one steadfast ally during an important time in her journey.

Willem Dafoe (Shadow Of The Vampire)

Not many cinematic vampires are said to be based on a real person, but the one played by Willem Dafoe in 2000’s Shadow of the Vampire is. He portrayed a fictionalized version of the real Nosferatu lead actor, Max Schreck, whom the crew begins to suspect is an actual vampire because of his behavior and the strange goings-on surrounding filming.

Gerard Butler (Dracula 2000)

Speaking of vampires who are based on real people…Author Bram Stoker based his Dracula on Vlad the Impaler, and Gerard Butler played yet another version of the ever-popular character in a film from, yes, 2000. This tale sees the ancient vamp accidentally awoken by a group of thieves who find and steal his highly protected coffin, which had been watched over by generations of the Van Helsing family.

Wesley Snipes (Blade)

A Marvel character that will soon have another portrayer when the upcoming Blade reboot finally begins filming, the original action/horror trilogy famously saw Wesley Snipes take on the vampire/human hybrid titular lead, who’s a nearly unstoppable vamp hunter bent on taking down all members of the species who bit his mother and infected him with their supernatural blood while he was still in utero.

Colin Farrell (Fright Night)

If a scary and suave undead night stalker is your type, look no further than Colin Farrell’s Jerry Dandrige in 2011’s remake of the 1985 cult classic, Fright Night. He may have to eventually do battle with a couple of teenagers, but he sure looks darn good doing it.

Ethan Hawke (Daybreakers)

A movie that takes a more science-fiction approach to a world overrun by vampires is the 2009 film Daybreakers, which sees Ethan Hawke play a vamp hematologist who refuses to drink human blood and is looking for a synthetic option to their usual meal of choice that will stop humanity from being wiped out by his more brutal peers.

Luke Evans (Dracula Untold)

Again with Dracula? Why, yes! This time, Luke Evans plays a Vlad the Impaler who only becomes a vampire to have the strength, speed and ferocity to turn back an invading army in an attempt to save the people of his kingdom. Does it work out for him? Well, yes…and no.

Kate Beckinsale (Underworld)

There’s no mentioning the Underworld franchise without giving respect to the main heroine, Kate Beckinsale’s Selene. In the first film she’s a vampire looking to destroy the werewolves that killed her family, but she ends up uncovering a major secret about the two sets of creatures and falling in love with a human, instead.

Alicia Silverstone (Vamps)

This 2012 horror comedy sees Alicia Silverstone play Goody, an old vampire who tries to stay young and hip while helping her much younger bloodsucking buddy, Stacy (Krysten Ritter), get used to her powers as they try to abstain from the red stuff during their immortal and unholy (sorta) lives.

Pedro Pascal (Bloodsucking Bastards)

Ever wondered what working in an office that was slowly being overrun by vampires who care as much about the bottom line as they do about drinking blood would be like? Just watch Bloodsucking Bastards, where beloved The Last of Us cast member Pedro Pascal begins turning his employees into the titular immortals.

Jim Carrey (Once Bitten)

Jim Carrey’s first leading role came in this 1985 comedy, where he played a teen virgin turned into a vampire by an alluring, 400-year-old creature of the night, who seduced him so she could use his blood to keep her youthful appearance.

Paul Reubens (Buffy The Vampire Slayer)

In the 1992 horror comedy that eventually led to the long-running series of the same name, the late Paul Reubens starred as Amilyn, a vamp doing the bidding of a much more powerful bloodsucker who’s ruling his kind in Los Angeles.

Alexander Skarsgård (True Blood)

While HBO’s True Blood was positively filled with the undead, few of them made as much of an impact on audiences (and the lead, Sookie) as Alexander Skarsgård’s cunning and alluring (but sorta evil) 1,000-year-old Eric Northman. This also happens to be the role that really made Skarsgård famous.

David Boreanaz (Buffy, Angel)

When it comes to popular TV vampires, no one can discount the reign of David Boreanaz as evil vamp turned heroic vamp (and then sometimes evil vamp again) Angel, whom he played on Buffy the Vampire Slayer beginning with the first episode in 1997, through wrapping his run on the fifth season series finale of his own show, Angel, in 2004.

Sterling K. Brown (Supernatural)

Sterling K. Brown may best be known now for delivering heartfelt emotions as Randall Pearson on This Is Us, but for four episodes across Seasons 2 and 3 of the CW mega-hit, Supernatural, he played Hunter and dedicated vamp-hater-turned-vampire, Gordon Walker, to astounding, understandably cold-blooded effect.

Kiefer Sutherland (The Lost Boys)

Even though Kiefer Sutherland was certainly a star on the rise by the time he starred in The Lost Boys in 1987, his part as apparent vampire motorcycle gang leader David cemented his leading man qualities and turned him into a household name.

Rami Malek (The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part II)

Sure, Bohemian Rhapsody is one of the best Rami Malek movies to watch, but let’s not discount his turn as the powerful (and ancient) Egyptian vampire, Benjamin, in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part II, one of the few creatures of the night in the franchise who can directly manipulate things, with his specialty being controlling fire, water, air and earth.

Bryce Dallas Howard (The Twilight Saga: Eclipse)

Yet another actor you may have forgotten was fanged in the expansive Twilight franchise is Jurassic World star Bryce Dallas Howard. She took over the role of evil, vengeful vamp Victoria (who’s looking to kill Bella in retaliation for Edward killing her love, James) from Rachelle Lefevre, for the third movie, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse.

Tilda Swinton (Only Lovers Left Alive)

As one half of the very old vampire couple at the center of the 2013 dramedy, Only Lovers Left Alive, Tilda Swinton is a wife forced to visit the husband (played by Tom Hiddleston) she’s long been separated from once she realizes his lengthy undead existence has begun to bring him down, as she tries to force him to reevaluate the value of living forever.

Bill Nighy (Underworld, Underworld: Rise Of The Lycans)

Every good vampire needs a parental figure to show them the ropes, and for Underworld’s Selene, that role was filled by Viktor, who was portrayed by Love, Actually star Bill Nighy. His Vampire Elder turned out to be more of a threat than the heroine ever expected, though, leading to some tense moments between Selene and her mentor.

Gary Oldman (Bram Stoker's Dracula) 

Back to Drac! One of the most popular films about the character is still 1992’s Bram Stoker's Dracula, which saw eventual Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban star Gary Oldman play Vlad Dracula.

Christopher Meloni (True Blood)

Where there is one vampire there are generally enough to have a whole hierarchy among their brethren, and as with the series True Blood, sometimes we get to see what that could look like. In Season 5, Law & Order: SVU and Organized Crime star Christopher Meloni portrayed the Guardian, Roman Zimojic, who led the Vampire Authority and (ostensibly) set the rules for all vamps. Many, however, didn’t agree with his desire to have his kind fit in with human society, which caused a lot of problems for the calm, determined and deadly when challenged leader.

Nicolas Cage (Renfield)

If you guessed that this is yet another Dracula story, well, you’re sort of correct. 2023’s horror comedy, Renfield, stars Nicholas Hoult as the count’s titular long-time familiar, who’s tired of helping him kill innocent people and all the abuse he’s taken from the being who gifted him with immortality, as well as super strength and speed (when he eats bugs) 90 years prior. So, he gets help from a support group for people in codependent relationships in order to be able to live his own life again. Nicolas Cage is our Dracula here, and he’s a perfectly winking one, who still manages to be creepy and deadly.

Johnny Depp (Dark Shadows)

Johnny Depp has become known for his outrageous characters, and his Barnabas Collins is no different. The 2012 Dark Shadows film (which was based on the 1966-1971 gothic daytime drama of the same name) follows Barnabas after he’s cursed with vampirism in 1760, buried alive in a coffin, and then accidentally freed in the early 1970s. He rejoins the Collins family at the estate they still hold, while trying to keep his true nature a secret, but hijinks ensue as his past comes back to haunt them. 

This, of course, is just a small sampling of the famous actors who've portrayed vampires over the years, but if you decide to do a vamp movie/TV show marathon, you can start right here and have hours of entertainment.

When Women’s History Month rolls around, I become even more appreciative of the female creators in the entertainment industry whom I admire the most. One of my top favorite female artists in Hollywood is Bryce Dallas Howard, whom most people know for her strong, scene-stealing performances in movies like 2011’s The Help or as the lead of one of the best Black Mirror episodes, “Nosedive.” However, in my opinion, there are not enough people who praise her as a director.

The actor has followed in the footsteps of her father, Academy Award-winning filmmaker Ron Howard, numerous times before — mostly with television work, but also on some short films, a few music videos, and a feature-length documentary released exclusively with an Apple TV+ subscription called Dads. Her first dramatic feature-length effort — a remake of Disney’s 1986 sci-fi adventure classic Flight of the Navigator — is currently in the works, but I am already excited for what else she might contribute to cinema from behind the camera next. In fact, I have a few ideas listed below for what sort of genres and styles might be right up her alley, starting with her most recent blockbuster.

A Suspenseful Spy Flick 

While Henry Cavill may star in the title role of this thriller, the Argylle cast is actually led by Bryce Dallas Howard as Elly Conway — the author who created the eponymous, suave secret agent and discovers that her hit book series is a bit more accurate to the state of espionage in the real world than she realized. Coming from director Matthew Vaughn of the Kingsman movies fame, the 2024 film is an intriguingly meta and extremely silly farce that proves Howard’s worth as an action star. Maybe she could one day prove her worth as an action director, too.

In addition to a few interesting twists on the genre, Argylle incorporates many of the most distinct and definitive elements from the likes of the James Bond franchise and other great spy movies from yesteryear. Thus, from her experience with said flick, Howard would likely have a great handle on how to put her own espionage thriller together, but my hope would not be to see her make her own Matthew Vaughn movie. I’d love to see her try her hand at something more earnest and grittier — perhaps even a 007 installment!

An Adventurous Creature Feature 

It has been nearly a decade since Howard joined the Jurassic Park universe and, to this day, 2015’s Jurassic World remains her most commercially successful acting credit, with the follow-ups — Fallen Kingdom and Dominion — trailing right behind it, according to The Numbers. Having now starred in movies that see her outrunning prehistoric beasts (and, quite impressively, in heels) as Claire Dearing, I’d say it is time that she try directing a similar type of adventure story.

Now, I am not suggesting that she should helm the next installment of the Jurassic Park movies (a job already given to The Creator director Gareth Edwards), nor do I even want to see her make a dinosaur flick, necessarily. I am merely suggesting that her experience with those kinds of films would lead her to make a dynamite creature feature. Whether that means something scary, adventurous, or even more family friendly, like her Pete’s Dragon remake from 2016, is up to her.

A Touching Psychological Drama

Technically, the first movie that Howard directed was Call Me Crazy: A Five Film — an anthology of shorts directed by women that served as follow-up to 2011’s Five and first aired on Lifetime in 2013. Each of the five stories explores a different topic related to mental health and Howard’s segment, “Lucy,” stars Brittany Snow as a law student diagnosed with schizophrenia.

“Lucy” would turn out to be one of the more acclaimed segments from Call Me Crazy, with The Hollywood Reporter noting how well Howard captured the “pervasive and claustrophobic sadness of mental institutions.” For that reason, I would love it if she, one day, returned to the world of mental health and helmed a story with similar subject matter, but in a feature-length format this time. It might be best that she pick a topic other than schizophrenia this time, since her father already went down that road, too — and to Oscar-winning glory — with A Beautiful Mind.

A Sci-Fi Coming-Of-Age Romance 

To some, a “sci-fi coming-of-age romance” story sounds almost too niche to be a suggestion for Bryce Dallas Howard’s directorial career. However, those confused souls might not realize that she has already mastered this genre combination before, and in the same year that Call Me Crazy: A Five Film premiered, with the video for M83’s “Claudia Lewis.”

The short — which Howard told EW was inspired by David Bowie in The Man Who Fell To Earth and John Hughes-era high school movies — stars Lily Collins as a young extra-terrestrial who falls for a human teen (Israel Broussard) during a visit to Earth. It is visually amusing and surprisingly moving, Romeo & Juliet-style spectacle that makes me almost desperate to see her revisit this unique combination of genres again someday. Hell, I would be down to see her tackle a feature-length adaptation of the “Claudia Lewis” video, which M83 could score!

Her Own Star Wars Movie

Of course, the kind of sci-fi flick that Howard has the better chance of directing in the future is her own installment to one of the most successful and widely celebrated franchises of all time: the Star Wars movies. It would not be her first visit to the galaxy far, far away, having helmed three classic episodes of Disney+’s The Mandalorian and one of the most acclaimed episodes of The Book of Boba Fett (which was, essentially, just another episode of The Mandalorian).

Ever since, fans have been eager for the chance to see Howard direct a feature-length installment of the iconic saga — an idea that Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy has said she has considered. With other upcoming Star Wars movies on the horizon and, likely, more where those came from, I am sure it is only a matter of time before Howard joins the club inhabited by George Lucas, J.J. Abrams, and… her father (the director of Solo: A Star Wars Story).

Having worked with some of the most talented filmmakers in the business throughout her career — and, not to mention, growing up in the same house as a filmmaking legend — Bryce Dallas Howard has shown that she has what it takes to be one of Hollywood’s next great directors, regardless of gender.

Bryce Dallas Howard knows how to keep a secret, whether it’s the plans for a supercharged new dinosaur, or the secret identity of a master spy. The latter mystery saw her help bring Argylle to the 2024 movie schedule, and Ms. Howard is already returning to the world of making it all up thanks to her role in a new film with Orlando Bloom and Sean Bean. And this announcement has already lead to a predictable, technically Game of Thrones related, comment/question.  

Howard is reuniting with her Jurassic World Dominion director Colin Trevorrow for this project, as he’s one of the co-writers behind this Prime Video UK original. Here’s how Bryce celebrated kicking off production on the film, which is currently going by the title Deep Cover:

As one of the two leads alongside Orlando Bloom, there’s already a lot to look forward to with this project. Though I have a feeling we might see a title change in the future, as some might think we’re talking about a reboot of one of the best Laurence Fishburne performances ever committed to the screen. 

Rather this Deep Cover is a comedy where an improv group has been drafted to help the police run “low level sting operations.” But as further reporting from Deadline indicates, the more this band of performers says yes, the deeper they find themselves diving into danger.

Some aren’t so convinced that this is an open and shut case where Bryce Dallas Howard, or any of her Deep Cover co-stars, are guaranteed safety. That much applies to Sean Bean, as fans of Game of Thrones or almost any other project he’s been involved in know that he tends to die…a lot. Which makes the following fan comment on Ms. Howard’s post both funny and concerning: 

When we’re able to write a feature ranking Sean Bean’s best death scenes, that’s a sign that this sort of questioning is to be expected. The death of the honorable Eddard Stark in Game of Thrones’ first season was merely the kill that snapped it all into place for pop culture. So it feels rather valid for someone to question just how safe Sean Bean is in Deep Cover. 

The bright side to that sort of thinking is that the film’s writers may have already thought about this. Which means that this comedy involving an improv group has room for many death scenes to be improvised, whether it’s Sean Bean, Bryce Dallas Howard, or Orlando Bloom suffering those slings and arrows. In which case, Bean would be able to coach his co-stars in the art of a proper death, seeing as he’s had quite a bit of experience.

Deep Cover doesn’t look to have a release date set at the moment, but the Prime Video UK production is presumed to be headed for a streaming exclusive debut. So all of you Prime Video subscription holders around the world will eventually be able to stream it for yourselves; we just don’t know when. In the meantime, you can catch Bryce Dallas Howard facing danger in Argylle, a former streaming exclusive that made the jump into its current theatrical release.

There has been much discourse about Bryce Dallas Howard and the heels she wore in the first Jurassic World film. The most famous scene, of course, is one in which Dearing is running away from a T-Rex in two pencil-thin shoes, a memorable shot on the big screen and one that has lived on in memes in the years following the film’s 2015 release. This time around, her role in Matthew Vaughn’s new movie release has her literally chucking off her shoes completely in order to go on a killing spree. Argylle-1, Jurassic World-0.

What Happens With The Heels In Argylle

Some minor spoilers for Argylle are in this paragraph, but I tried to make it spoiler-light. 

Bryce Dallas Howard’s Argylle character is a woman struggling with her identity through the film. Thanks to a complex plot I really don’t want to get into  if you haven’t seen the movie, she doesn’t have a lot of self-defining characteristics. Early in the film, she wears a lot of practical shoes, but as things progress she does throw on a pair of heels for a complicated scene involving an A+ dance move and red-carpet worthy look that enables her character to infiltrate a palace that holds secrets. 

As she becomes more comfortable with becoming the Rachel she wants to be, she ditches her heels and goes barefoot briefly before she has to take on myriad bad guys. She’s certainly not a character who is doing that in heels. 

The shoes she eventually chooses as she evolves are combat boots, thick and rubbery enough that later she can stick knives into them and skate around on them in a rink made of oil. The scene is memorable, but the first thing I thought about when there was an intentional shot of her ditching the heels shown was, “Of course, the actress would make a point of this.” 

Nearly a decade ago now (I can’t even believe it’s been that long), Bryce Dallas Howard was asked over and over again about the running-in-heels scene. 

No one else in the Argylle cast is running around in heels, and she’s not about to play a heroine running down hallways in impractical shoes again. It wouldn’t make sense for this character, but I’d have to assume it’s an idea she would be intentionally thinking about while filming in a way that shoes might not matter as much for any other spy. In this case, what works best for the character is actually the opposite of the J World moment, and I’m glad we got this shoe subplot on the big screen.

What Bryce Dallas Howard Said About The Jurassic World Controversy

I think even people who might not remember much about Jurassic World probably have a vivid image of Claire Dearing running away from an apex predator in an increasingly sweaty outfit and a pair of pumps. The moment became such a part of the cultural lexicon that when CinemaBlend covered Howard’s casting in Argylle, we joked that she’d ditch the heels, not knowing how spot-on that comment proved to literally be. 

Bryce Dallas Howard’s been pretty great about the iconic moment overall. She felt strongly Claire Dearing  wouldn’t  just go barefoot in the face of adversity and she did return to wearing heels in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, however briefly. Howard has embraced the memes wholeheartedly, joking we’ll still be talking about Claire Dearing’s heels “80 years” from now.

I guess in this case, 10 down and only 70 more to go! But if you haven’t seen Argylle yet, it’s definitely a nice full circle moment for the actress. Couple that with a bonkers plot and a great performance from Sam Rockwell (our Argylle review), and you have a recipe for a fun night at the movies. Heels not required.  

Of course, Howard hasn’t been shying away from heels while doing press for the movie. … but when a girl’s not running from dinos, she should be able to wear whatever she wants. 

“The greater the spy, the bigger the lie.” That’s the tagline that director Matthew Vaughn’s Argylle has been selling itself on as part of its grand debut on the 2024 movies schedule. But as the movie rolls out into theaters this weekend, Bryce Dallas Howard’s Elly Conway has been given a badass, and spoiler-free, catchphrase that even co-star/pop icon Samuel L. Jackson has defended with a ranking on a scale of 1 to 10.

During the recent press day for Universal and Apple Original Films’ big espionage comedy, CinemaBlend’s Sean O’Connell was on hand to chat with the director and the Argylle cast about the parts of the film that are safe for civilians who haven’t dug into this twisty puzzle box of mystery just yet. There’s still a lot to talk about though, like the following one-liner spouted by Howard’s Elly Conway:

If only I'd caught that before writing our official Argylle review, I might have factored that into my overall score of this very fun class in Spycraft 101. However, as with any subject of this severity, opinion definitely varied. In the views of director Matthew Vaughn, he isn't exactly a fan, as he gave the line a 1 and branded it "hardly a fucking classic." 

This led to a polite bit of disagreement with Argylle co-star Samuel L. Jackson, as he was all for it. He's certainly more than qualified to make that sort of claim, as Jackson’s instincts about MCU t-shirt lines served him well in the past. Here's the counterpoint he made to CinemaBlend:

If there’s anyone who’s at the intersection of dope ass t-shirts and lines worthy of being included on such shirts, it’d be Mr. Samuel L. Jackson. That much is especially true, as Jackson’s social media t-shirt posts from the past have proven that he has both an eye and an ear for this sort of thing. 

If you doubt his credentials, look harder into your own history and try to recall the last time you had a “tasty beverage” or told all of your friends to “hold onto your butts.” That’s what I thought. 

But what does Bryce Dallas Howard think of her own moment in Argylle’s potential pop culture sun? That question came up as well, as CinemaBlend brought the subject up with the woman of the hour. A bit surprised herself, Bryce eventually made her feelings known through the following response: 

It’s a bit early to determine whether or not audiences will be leaving Argylle saying “Mama’s gotta get to work.” Then again, memes happen when you least expect them. Since the movie kicks off its theatrical release this weekend, we might know soon enough. At the very least, should this would-be blockbuster get a sequel, we know the exact shirt the cast should be wearing to announce a hypothetical Argylle 2 to the world. 

Henry Cavill and Bryce Dallas Howard lead an extraordinary ensemble cast in Argylle, the upcoming spy action comedy from Matthew Vaughn. After much anticipation — and some wild theories about Taylor Swift being connected — the movie is set to hit theaters on February 2. Critics had the opportunity to screen the film ahead of its release, and they’ve got mixed opinions about the meta look at espionage stories.

The story revolves around spy novelist Elly Conway (Bryce Dallas Howard), whose world — as well as that of her beloved cat Alfie — is turned upside down when she’s informed that the plots of her books are being reflected in the real-life jobs of a spy organization. Let’s see what critics have to say, starting with CinemaBlend’s review of Argylle. Our own Mike Reyes rates the movie 3.5 stars out of 5, writing that it’s a great option for newcomers to the spy movie genre, although it’s more complicated than expected, and not all of the twists land successfully. Reyes writes: 

Molly Freeman of ScreenRant gives the movie 3 out of 5 stars, saying it’s a fun spoof on the spy genre but has too many twists and turns for its largely one-dimensional characters. Still, the action is sure to keep audiences entertained, Freeman says, writing:  

Kevin Harley of GamesRadar rates Argylle just 2 out of 5 stars, suggesting that the film is never as fast or funny as it thinks it is, as it clumsily walks the line between self-awareness and self-satisfaction. Sometimes too slow and other times too silly, Argylle is full of half-baked ideas and no focus, according to the critic, who says: 

David Fear of Rolling Stone addresses the film’s gimmick that suggests moviegoers are in for a huge twist, and without spoiling anything, this critic suggests what Matthew Vaughn doesn’t want people to know is that this is a “stunningly bad movie.” Fear continues: 

Leslie Felperin of THR seems to agree with the above assessment, calling the spectacular cast’s performances “mirthless” and “shouty,” with terrible-looking CGI and random plot twists. In Felperin’s words: 

While the critics all seem to agree the plot is overcomplicated with possibly too many twists, they’re mixed on how entertaining the project is overall. If you want to get to the bottom of the Elly Conway mystery, you can do so starting Friday, February 2, when Argylle hits the big screen. Whenever a project nears its premiere on the 2024 movie schedule, the cast gets all dressed up to promote it so they can get the world excited about what they’ve been working so hard on. So, as the cast of Argylle has been promoting their fun spy action flick over the last month, Bryce Dallas Howard has been rocking some incredible looks during the press tour as she bounces from interview to premiere to interview to chat about her character Elly Conway. Now, she’s showing off all her lovely press outfits, and I personally can’t get over the stunning leather dress she wore on The Graham Norton Show. 

Even though the ensemble couldn’t give away what they know about Argylle on this press tour, they could share fun anecdotes and stories about making the film as well as their overall careers, and they did so in style. Bryce Dallas Howard showed that off in an Instagram reel as she shared all her outfits from the movie’s press tour:

Of course, all these looks are stunning, and I’m obsessed with her colorful outfits. However, the star of the show is the leather dress she wore on The Graham Norton Show. The form-fitting midi-length dress is perfect for the winter season. She also paired the dress with matching black heels and did her hair in a high ponytail. Overall, the look is gorgeous and so fun. In her caption on Instagram, Dallas Howard noted that she was “styled by publicist extraordinaire” Alex Schack, and she did such a great job. While I haven’t seen Argylle yet, the Jurassic World actress’s outfits here seem to fit the fun and preppy vibe the film has. The leather look makes me think about the action of the flick and the fun spy mystery at the center. Meanwhile, her more colorful looks make me think of her character Elly, and the preppy world of writing that she lives in. 

Overall, Bryce Dallas Howard is seriously killing this press tour with her outfits, and the leather dress was the cherry on top. 

Leather has always stayed in style, and it’s a solid and chic trend that I have always adored. However, over the last year, we’ve seen some stellar looks from celebs involving the shiny fabric. 

For example, Sydney Sweeney stunned in a black leather Alexander McQueen gown, that was form-fitting, just like Bryce Dallas Howard’s fit. They both kept the glam fairly neutral and let the dress truly shine. 

Kylie Jenner also rocked leather when she wore a faux leather halter top during an ad for her brand Khy. 

All these women looked stunning in their leather outfits, and I’m obsessed with the ensembles that all featured epic heels and gorgeous natural makeup.

What the heck do a Henry Cavill spy movie called Argylle and Taylor Swift have in common? Aside from having an adorable Scottish Fold that likes to hang out in a cat backpack, absolutely nothing, and yet the movie and huge pop star have been talked about in the same breadth for months now. Since the fall of 2023, Swifties have been compiling evidence to prove the theory that the famous singer is the secret novelist behind the novel that inspired the film. The whole notion was recently debunked by the movie’s director, but Henry Cavill and John Cena -- who star in the movie -- had reactions to the Swift madness that were just too good. 

This week, the star-studded cast of Argylle did press in London ahead of the movie hitting theaters next month. When the Taylor Swift theories were brought up to Henry Cavill, here’s what he said:

Now, he’s just adding fuel to the fire, isn’t he? As Matthew Vaughn recently explained, Argylle was, in fact, written by an author named Elly Conway and not the Grammy-winning pop star. After reports previously came out that Conway, who has never been published before, earned a $200 million deal for the sale of the rights to her spy novel, people started to think it was the "Anti-Hero" singer using a pen name. While Vaughn has said that Taylor Swift “definitely didn’t write the book,” John Cena appreciates how the speculation ahs elevated interest in the film. As the actor told Entertainment Tonight: 

The action flick has arguably been placed on more of the public's radar, thanks to all these Swift-centric theories. In addition to the Scottish Fold connection, people have pointed out how Bryce Dallas Howard, who plays the author of Argylle in the movie, looks a lot like Swift’s alter ego in the All Too Well short film she made in 2021. Howard responded to the theories as well, saying this: 

It’s fun to see the cast not only leaning into the Taylor Swift theories but being grateful for their existence as well. The marketing for the movie, which is produced by Apple, has come at a time when Swift’s fame is at an all-time high and fans are always on the lookout for hidden clues from the artist about her upcoming projects. Star Wars: Skeleton Crew premiere date is coming, but even though we're reportedly not that far off from streaming the new live-action series with a Disney+ subscription, there's less information about it on the internet than other similar shows. While we may not have as much as we did with Ahsoka or the average season of The Mandalorian, there are some details we know about this series that should sate the curiosity of fans needing more information.

Anyone interested in the who, what, when and where will get the latest information known about the exciting project, which so far sounds like something unlike anything else the Lucasfilm franchise has ever done. Typically, that means good things when it comes to Star Wars, so let's jump in and talk about what all is expected from this upcoming series. 

When Is Star Wars: Skeleton Crew's Premiere Date?

We know for sure right now that Star Wars: Skeleton Crew has completed filming and will consist of eight episodes. It was originally stated that the series would make its debut in 2023, but at this point, that doesn't seem likely. A filing with the U.S. Copyright Office revealed the potential release date of January 2024, as well as the synopsis for the first episode. As of writing, this release date has not been confirmed by Disney+, but I would think it'd be safe to assume that a 2024 release window is more likely than not. 

What Is Star Wars: Skeleton Crew About

Based on what was revealed at Star Wars Celebration, we know that Skeleton Crew will follow 10-year-old children lost in the galaxy and trying to find their way home. Though the movie will center around children, it has been stressed that this is an adventure that will appeal to all audiences. Not much is known about the story beyond that, but it will be great to see the rare perspective of watching a Star Wars story through the eyes of kids. 

Granted, we've gotten some brief glimpses via Young Anakin in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, as well as via Leia in Obi-Wan Kenobi.  While informative, the story wasn't exactly told from either's perspective, so I'm hoping we'll see that happen in Skeleton Crew and see just how a Galaxy constantly impacted by war has shaped a generation of young minds. 

When Does Star Wars: Skeleton Crew Take Place?

Star Wars: Skeleton Crew is going to tread some familiar territory fans should be familiar with: the time period after Return of the Jedi. This is the same timeframe as The Mandalorian, The Book Of Boba Fett, and Ahsoka are set, so there's a definite possibility that this series will be linked to those shows in some way. It's not a guarantee, of course, but given that Dave Filoni is developing a Star Wars movie that will tie those stories together, it's possible the story of Skeleton Crew factors into those plans as well. 

Some of the obvious things to remember about this time period is that the Empire is fragmented into factions, and the New Republic is certainly having some trouble operating as the ruling arm of the galaxy. As such, there's no telling who could find these kids as they try to find their way back home, and the success of their mission. 

What Is Star Wars: Skeleton Crew Based On?

Star Wars: Skeleton Crew will apparently emulate one of the best '80s movies ever made, according to Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy. In an interview with Comicbook.com, Kennedy said Jon Watts pitched her on a series similar to The Goonies, and Lucasfilm has generally described the movies as similar in style to the Amblin coming-of-age films of the '80s. Those are definitely movies that, while about children, were able to be enjoyed by much older audiences. 

It will be interesting to see what that means in the context of Star Wars: Skeleton Crew when the series comes out. In the context of a movie like The Goonies, one could speculate that each child will have some sort of skillset that makes them useful in the adventure, which is typical for any ensemble adventure. It's hard to say what exactly those skills would be given we know so little about the story, but I'm eager to see what these kids can do. 

Who Is in Star Wars: Skeleton Crew?

Jude Law's involvement in Star Wars: Skeleton Crew was announced alongside the start of the series, and he's not the only star involved. Jaleel White is also in the series, and apparently the actor known for his childhood role of Steve Urkel on Family Matters will play a pirate. Among the children actors, Ravi Cabot-Conyers, Kyriana Kratter, Robert Timothy Smith, and Ryan Kiera Armstrong have all been cast in Skeleton Crew.  Tunde Adebimpe and Kerry Condon will also appear.

Given this series takes place so close to The Mandalorian, I would consider any actor to be from those and other shows in this time period fair game. While we may not see Din Djarin or Ahsoka given the various adventures they've been on, I would not be surprised to see Paul Sun-Hyung Lee's Carson Teva worked into the story somehow. Of course, we'll just have to wait and see who might show up, as Lucasfilm isn't usually forthcoming when it comes to unexpected legacy cameos.

It wouldn't be a Star Wars project without big names circling the episodes, and sure enough, Skeleton Crew tapped some talented directors for the episodes. Potential future Star Wars movie director Bryce Dallas Howard is back for more after helming episodes of The Mandalorian and The Book Of Boba Fett. The Daniels, known for their Best Picture winner and one of the greatest sci-fi films, Everything Everywhere All At Once, are also attached.

Other celebrities have famous parents out there, but these are just some you might not realize were related to someone famous. And now, I need to figure out who else might be related to someone I never knew about—time to dive into some Hollywood history. 

The veil of mystery surrounding director Matthew Vaughn’s contribution to the 2024 movie schedule has started to lift. Thanks to the Argylle trailer showing off Henry Cavill and Bryce Dallas Howard in action, fans know the meta-fictional adventure comedy is ready to lovingly celebrate and mock the world of espionage stories. And during an appearance at last weekend’s New York Comic Con, Vaughn highlighted the crux of this "meta" story by using Harry Potter to make his point.

During the panel, “Matthew Vaughn: From Kickass to Kingsman to Argylle,” THR was on hand to hear the famed director’s remarks on his next would-be franchise. Vaughn emphasized that the film would be somewhat quirky, which is evident throughout the trailer. Though I'm not sure anyone would've expected him to make a comparison to the Wizarding World: 

If Warner Bros. isn’t salivating over that idea themselves, give them time. Meanwhile, Universal Pictures gets to dig into this crazy-sounding romp themselves next February. Though Argylle was delayed, the studio partnered with Apple to release this previously intended streaming original as a silver screen blockbuster. 

Matthew Vaughn certainly didn’t stop at the comparisons to the Harry Potter franchise, as he believes that his latest flick is the start of something special. While the details surrounding how real Elly Conway truly is are still in question, there’s no doubt that the book named after Henry Cavill’s hero actually exists. On top of giving a limited number of the advanced reading copies to NYCC’s audience, Vaughn put this fine little button on the matter himself: 

In promotional shots for the upcoming movie, there are four books on display, with Bryce Dallas Howard's protagonist looking to be in the middle of writing a fifth in the film’s first footage. So if this project takes off like the filmmaker hopes, these hopes of landing the next Potter-style hit just might come true. In which case, one could assume that unless some creative recasting is already built into the story, Henry Cavill’s tough luck with James Bond just might continue. Albeit for much better, and more job-securing reasons.

Argylle sets its sights on conquering two fronts of entertainment at the beginning of 2024, and there’s two different ways you’ll be able to enjoy the fun! Elly Conway’s debut novel hits shelves starting January 9th; and you can preorder it on Amazon, or wherever you shop for your literature-related needs. 

As for the movie that shares its name, and to a certain extent its universe, you’ll be able to see it exclusively in theaters starting February 2nd. Though keep your Apple TV+ subscription up to date, as that’s presumed to be the eventual streaming home for this explosive and satirical romp.

Have you ever pondered the reason behind Victoria being played by a totally different actor in The Twilight Saga: Eclipse? That’s because Rachelle Lefevre was replaced by Bryce Dallas Howard in the third film, leaving many fans to wonder why. 

When The Twilight Saga premiered back in 2008, it took the world by storm. While the Harry Potter franchise was concluding with its last few movies (Half-Blood Prince and the Deathly Hallows films), the vampire-romance was the latest movie series that shook up the fantasy genre at the box office – and it ended up causing vampire mania. 

Team Edward vs. Team Jacob shirts and signs began to pop up everywhere as fans of the franchise would crowd the theaters each year to see the next installment of the blockbuster series. Then, leading up to the release of The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, it was confirmed that the actress who played Victoria, Rachelle Lefevre, would be replaced. 

For all of those who were confused as to why Lefevre ended up leaving the role of Victoria, and how it all played out, here's what we know...

Rachelle Lefevre Played Victoria Before She Was Recast With Bryce Dallas Howard In Eclipse

As a bit of a refresher, Victoria was one of the main antagonists following the events of the first Twilight movie, in which she was introduced along with some of her vampire companions. 

When her mate, James, was killed due to Edward Cullen, she began her own personal revenge plot against Bella Swan. The vampire was involved in several attempts on the teenager’s life. Eventually, though, she was defeated. 

For the first two movies, Victoria was portrayed by Rachelle Lefevre, which was considered her first major movie role. However, in The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, Bryce Dallas Howard took over the part. 

Lefevre Says That Summit ‘Fired Her’ Over A ‘10-Day Conflict’

When Lefevre was recast back in July 2009, prior to Eclipse filming, she released a statement to Entertainment Weekly about how stunned she was. She cites the reason was due to a scheduling conflict with another film she was working on at the time: 

Lefevre would continue to say that while Eclipse had a filming schedule of “three months,” she was “fully prepared to continue to honor” her part in the movie, it seems Summit would not accommodate her ten-day break for Barney’s Version. Instead, the film company chose to “simply recast the part.”

However, Summit Entertainment had a different take on Lefevre’s recasting. In another statement also from Entertainment Weekly, released in July 2009, Summit said that the reason they fired Lefevre wasn’t because she had another opportunity – it was because she kept it to herself instead of informing the company:

The studio also contended that the filming of Barney’s Version would have not only taken her away during days of “principal filming,” but from “required rehearsal time for the third Twilight film.”

Bryce Dallas Howard Was Excited To Be A Part Of Twilight, But Some Fans Were Understandably 'Totally Bummed'

As you can see, there are some conflicting statements here. Even so, when actress Bryce Dallas Howard took over the role, she was excited to become Victoria for Twilight. She even spoke about it in an interview with MTV in December 2009, saying that it was “juicy” to play a villain: 

Understandably, some fans were a bit upset over the news. MTV compiled fan reactions from several readers of the website in July 2009. One user said they were “totally bummed” about Lefevre not being able to finish the role, and Eclipse was the last movie she was going to be in. 

However, other fans were more inclined to understand. One user, titled Eden, said that it “her choice” to take the other role, and that Dallas Howard would “do a great job” because she was a great actress.

Whatever the case may be, Bryce Dallas Howard did end up taking on the role of Victoria, and the film series came to an end in 2012. At least now, you might have some idea of exactly what happened that made the Twilight world turn upside down in 2009.

Steven Spielberg's original Jurassic Park franchise revolutionized the film world and was a flick that defined 1993, leaving audiences in awe of its groundbreaking dinosaur visual effects. And the franchise returned to cinemas in 2015 with Colin Trevorrow's first entry in his Jurassic World trilogy. While Bryce Dallas Howard’s natural red hair has been a glowing quality to her, her blonde hair that she dyed to play Gwen Stacy was on point. Compared to sticking with Stan Lee’s version of having Gwen be Peter Parker’s ill-fated girlfriend, Sam Raimi had other plans for Spider-Man 3. This new character in Peter Parker’s life was portrayed as his science class colleague whose life he saved from an out-of-control crane. However, it seems that the daughter of Captain Stacy was there more to create tension between Peter and Mary Jane with not too much room to explore Howard’s character.

When Marc Webb decided to create his own superhero journey of the web-slinger, his version of Gwen Stacy was very accurate to Stan Lee’s depiction. Played by Emma Stone in the reboot, this version of Gwen in The Amazing Spider-Man series illustrated her as the best science student of Midtown High who helped Peter fight against the Lizard and Electro using her brain power. Unfortunately, the story followed too closely to the graphic novel series when her character was killed off at the end of The Amazing Spider-Man 2. While we knew it was going to be a decision Webb was going to take when behind-the-scenes photos showed Stone wearing the same outfit the superhero’s blonde-haired girlfriend wore in the comics when she died, audiences were still hoping to see Gwen Stacy on screen just a little bit longer.

The Amazing Spider-Man 3 was about to bring back Emma Stone’s character until the third movie was scrapped. But luckily, we have the Spider-Verse movies to thank for resurrecting Gwen Stacy. Voiced by Hailee Steinfeld, she’s one of the major spider-heroes to know in the animated film series. This counterpart living in the alternate universe of Earth-65 was the one who gets bitten by the radioactive spider developing spider-like abilities. Unlike the story we know of Peter losing Gwen, Gwen is actually the one who tragically loses Peter. 

As the story continues in Across the Spider-Verse, Spider-Gwen teams up with her partner and love interest Miles Morales and other Spider-People to go against supervillain The Spot. Seeing this version of Gwen Stacy up on the big screen shows that every version of Spider-Man’s iconic love interest becomes more and more developed.

The character of Gwen Stacy may have taken on many forms over the years, but let’s use Spider-Man Week to remember Bryce Dallas Howard’s performance as the first actress to take on this well-known Marvel role which you can watch on your Netflix subscription. From a movie point of view, Star Wars has been in a form of limbo. J.J. Abrams’s Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker was the latest film to reach theaters, making it your final watch – for now – if you’d like to screen the Star Wars movies in order. But Star Wars fans have found plenty to celebrate in long-form television, available with your Disney+ subscription. There have been enjoyable shows like Andor and The Mandalorian, or course. And there are exciting upcoming Star Wars TV shows on the horizon, as well. But will any of the directors who are hard at work on the various Star Wars television shows get the chance to make the leap to feature films? 

Right now, there is a deep pool of directing talent working on The Mandalorian, Andor, and the upcoming Ahsoka, due in theaters later this year. Rick Famuyiwa did an incredible job on the two-part finale of The Mandalorian Season 3, and has a long history of developing movies (he was supposed to direct The Flash long before Andy Muschietti got the gig). However, when Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy took the stage at Star Wars Celebration outside of London, she announced three upcoming Star Wars movies, but the attached directors – outside of Dave Filoni – had no connection to the stories being told on the television side. Which seemed odd. 

When we got the opportunity to speak with Kathleen Kennedy on the press line for Star Wars Celebration, we asked her if and when Star Wars director like Rick Famuyiwa and Bryce Dallas Howard might get the chance to helm a feature film. Watch what she had to tell CinemaBlend:

So that’s encouraging. Especially when you hear the cast of Andor praising their directors because of the passion that they bring to Star Wars, having grown up on the universe and being excited about putting their spin on it. Also, the skillset that is necessary to create eight episodes of a Star Wars show seems even more complicated than a two-hour feature. Which might be part of the reason why so many Star Wars movies have been pitched, then dropped over the years. Stability would be appreciated on that side of the equation. 

It sounds like it’s coming, with Dave Filoni, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, and James Mangold leading the charge with three new Star Wars movies. But while they workshop those ideas, let’s leave that door open for the TV directors, who are crushing it and deserve more opportunities. 

Terry Matalas is well known in the realm of science fiction TV, from spearheading Syfy’s 12 Monkeys to his work on multiple Star Trek shows, including being the showrunner on the latter two seasons of Star Trek: Picard. Picard Season 3 will premiere to Paramount+ subscribers in a couple months, but ahead of that, it’s been announced that Matalas will team up with Star Wars director Bryce Dallas Howard to bring back a beloved Disney franchise back for the Mouse House’s streaming service.

Disney+ has given the greenlight to a Witch Mountain pilot, which is described as a reimagining of the same-named film franchise. Terry Matalas co-wrote and pilot with Travis Fickett, and both men are executive producing, as is Euphoria’s Augustine Frizzell, who will direct the pilot. The official plot description for the Witch Mountain pilot says it follows “two teens that develop strange abilities and discover their sleepy suburb may not be as idyllic as it seems.” The Witch Mountain franchise is based off the 1968 novel Escape to Witch Mountain by Alexander Key, and this series will be its first installment since 2009’s Race to Witch Mountain, a remake of the Escape to Witch Mountain movie from 1975.

Bryce Dallas Howard has come aboard the Witch Mountain pilot to play Audrey, the devoted and loving mother of Tia, one of the project’s starring young protagonists. With her husband having died as a result of his schizophrenia, Audrey has been trying to reassure Tia that she won’t fall into a similar dark spiral. And while Audrey presents as a “warm mama bear type,” not everything is as it seems with her, like so many of the people in the town where Witch Mountain takes place.

Witch Mountain continues Bryce Dallas Howard’s collaboration with Disney+, as she’s previously directed episodes of The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett, as well as voiced Yaddle in Tales of the Jedi. Howard is also on deck to helm the platform’s Flight of the Navigator reboot. Should Witch Mountain be picked up to series, maybe she’ll have the opportunity to work behind the cameras there as well. Howard was also recently seen reprising Claire Dearing in Jurassic World Dominion, and next year she’ll star opposite Henry Cavill in Argylle, which will be streamable with an Apple TV+ subscription. 

Bryce Dallas Howard is one of five actors who’s been cast in the Witch Mountain pilot as series regulars. The aforementioned Tia, who will be played by Isabel Gravitt, is described as a straight-A student who many see as “perfect,” but she sees herself as flawed and is worried she’ll develop schizophrenia like her father did. On top of that, Tia experiences “hallucinations” in which “people around her step outside their living bodies and voice their deepest, darkest fears and desires and rages.” Gravitt is joined by Levi Miller, who’s playing Ben, a trouble teenager who makes ends meeting writing papers for other students, but also has a bad temper and will get expelled if he hits another student. Ben finds himself being drawn to Tia after discovering he has the ability to “force others in his vicinity to move according to his will.”

Then there’s Corey, played by Bianca “b” Norwood, who is Ben’s tattooed best friend and co-worker at the town’s diner, though they don’t like it when Ben tries to act as their protector. Like Ben, Corey is close to being expelled and looks like they’re the personification of “a My Chemical Romance song that became an anime fan.” Finally, we have Jackson Kelly’s Peter, Tia’s close friend who’s infatuated with her, but she doesn’t notice his charms or devotion. However, once Tia starts noticing the “impossible things” happening around her, she learns that Peter’s “observant cautious nature” might be the key to figuring out what is going on.

It’ll likely be a long time until Witch Mountain becomes available for Disney+ subscribers to watch, but we’ll keep you apprised of more details concerning this reinvention as they come in. For now, you can watch all five prior Witch Mountain movies on the same streaming service.

While Star Wars might not be the first thing that comes to mind when thinking about Bryce Dallas Howard, make no mistake, she has been an important player in a galaxy far, far away over the last few years. The anthology series, which will be accessible to Disney+ subscribers, focuses on different characters from the Prequel era, and Bryce Dallas Howard shared on Twitter that she lent her voice to the project as Yaddle, who was once a member of the Jedi Council.

Yaddle may not look familiar to the casual Star Wars viewer, as she was a side character in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace’s Jedi Council scenes. However, hardcore Star Wars fans know her quite well, particularly because she’s the first member of Yoda’s species to be shown in a Star Wars movie since the Jedi Master who trained Obi-Wan Kenobi and Luke Skywalker was introduced in The Empire Strikes Back. Yaddle didn’t have any lines in The Phantom Menace, so Bryce Dallas Howard has the privilege of finally giving this character her own voice.

By extension, because Grogu doesn’t speak in The Mandalorian aside from the nonsense word “Badu,” Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi will also be the first time we’ve heard a member of Yoda’s species deliver dialogue besides Yoda himself. I imagine Bryce Dallas Howard’s Yaddle has the same speech pattern as Yoda, but it would be funny to hear that Yaddle has speaks more normally, and that Yoda’s unusual word delivery is distinct only to him. 

The first batch of Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi episodes will focus on Ahsoka Tano and Count Dooku, with the former being explored at various points in her life and the latter being spotlighted before he left the Jedi Order and fell to the dark side of the Force. Given that Yaddle is long-lived like Yoda and Grogu, she could easily appear in both Ahsoka and Dooku’s stories, but it hasn’t been clarified yet how she fits into Tales of the Jedi. This new animated Star Wars offering also features plenty of familiar Star Wars voice actors reprising their roles, including Ashley Eckstein as Ahsoka, Corey Burton as Dooku, Matt Lanter as Anakin Skywalker and James Arnold Taylor as Obi-Wan Kenobi. Liam Neeson and Ian McDiarmid also returned to respectively voice Qui-Gon Jinn and Palpatine, respectively.

Body image, and the expectations surrounding that subject, are still very much fodder for discussion in Hollywood. A new example of such developments has come from Bryce Dallas Howard, as the star of Jurassic World Dominion got very real about weight in Hollywood. What’s even more shocking is, that request was actually made as recently as the filming phase of this summer’s entry into the Jurassic Park universe. 

How Bryce Dallas Howard’s Weight Became A Question On Jurassic World Dominion

Speaking with Metro to promote the recent home entertainment release of Jurassic World Dominion, Howard didn’t shy away from the subject. Laying it all out clearly, she told the publication the story of how the third film in the Jurassic World trilogy saw this question come into play. Bryce Dallas Howard started her story as follows:

Judging by her remarks above, this isn’t even the first time that Howard has been asked to slim down for the Jurassic World franchise. Which makes the fact that co-writer/director Colin Trevorrow spoke up even more admirable. Continuing on in this very interview, Bryce Dallas Howard revealed just what Trevorrow had said to shut this issue down once and for all. Perhaps the bigger surprise is that Howard revealed that potential diet would have affected her performance in a pretty substantial way.

The Impact Dieting Could Have Had On Bryce Dallas Howard’s Jurassic World Dominion Performance

Through Colin Trevorrow’s reasoning against potential weight loss for Bryce Dallas Howard, Jurassic World Dominion immensely. I say that because when she revealed what Trevorrow had said in her favor, Howard also highlighted the following changes that would have been made to her performance: 

Colin Trevorrow isn’t the only Jurassic World co-worker that’s stepped up for Bryce. Previously, when the issue of Bryce Dallas Howard being paid “so much less” for her work in the trilogy came up, co-star Chris Pratt helped negotiate some opportunities that made up for some of the difference. 

As a result, Jurassic World Dominion and the movies that came before it are much better off. After having recreated one of Bryce Dallas Howard’s Dominion stunts myself, reading that second quote over resonates even more. Any performer would need a lot of energy to work through that much running and jumping, through multiple takes. 

While Howard may not have needed one of Dwayne Johnson’s cheat meals to get through this Jurassic World adventure, a diet intended for weight loss wouldn’t have cut it. Thanks to Colin Trevorrow stepping in and having his say, it was never an issue, and we got to see Bryce Dallas Howard's Claire Dearing put up one hell of a fight against a dinosaur smuggler and an Atrociraptor.

Those words are as awesome to watch as they are to read, which is good to know because Jurassic World Dominion is currently available for rental or purchase, across digital and physical formats. Also, anyone with a Peacock subscription can check out the theatrical cut, as well as Colin Trevorrow’s preferred extended version, since both are currently streaming on that specific platform.

Jeff Goldblum and his fellow Jurassic World Dominion cast members have been having an absolute blast while promoting the film, and I personally can’t get enough of it. The Jurassic World sequel was a box office success and has firmly solidified itself as one of the biggest movies of the year. Much of this can arguably be attributed to  the fact that Sam Neill, Laura Dern, and Goldblum reprised their roles from the original 1993 film, Jurassic Park. Though the film came out nearly 30 years ago, Goldblum has proved that he can snap right back into his Dr. Ian Malcolm role and did so in humorous fashion during a trivia game.

Jeff Goldblum, along with co-stars Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, and DeWanda Wise played the Jurassic Park trivia game during a segment for BuzzFeed. During the game, they tested each other's knowledge of Steven Spielberg's classic film. They were obviously all rockstars and did fantastic on the quiz, but Goldblum in particular seemed to emulate his character. While correctly remembering that Dr. Ian Malcom specialized in “chaos theory,” the actor quipped:

His co-stars were quite tickled by his quick response, especially Bryce Dallas Howard, who couldn’t help but crack up at the clever pun. You have to love seeing such an iconic actor back in his element. The original Jurassic Park cast seemed excited to be welcomed back to the iconic franchise, and their nostalgia is infectious. Jeff Goldblum previously said that he found his reunion with Laura Dern and Sam Neill  "exciting." 

Many fans seemed to love seeing their favorite scientists back on screen and once trying to save the world from the consequences of the ill-advised dinosaur theme park. The Jurassic World cast especially loved spending time with their predecessors, who did a great job entertaining everyone during what ended up being a long pandemic-influenced production. I’m so glad this cast used a difficult shoot as an opportunity to bond over such a unique, shared experience. 

Jurassic World Dominion was meant to serve as the conclusion to this era of the franchise, so it may be a while before we see any further installments in the dino-centric series. However, this franchise has been rebooted before, so you never know what could happen. Director Colin Trevorrow intentionally kept the original trio alive in the finale, so it certainly leaves the door open for the OG cast to appear once more. It's like Jeff Goldblum's Ian Malcolm says, "Life, uh... finds a way."

An important part of being a movie fan is knowing what goes into the entertainment you’re enjoying on a regular basis. I’m not saying that you need every bit of magic from the 2022 movie release Jurassic World Dominion spoiled for you, but the dinosaurs are so much more impressive when you realize how they came to be. 

That same thing can be said about the actual stunts that involved human performers risking life and limb to make such things as the Malta chase sequences look absolutely stunning. After filming my own recreation of a Dominion stunt scene, I have even more respect for the stunt performers who made it all happen. Here's how one day of stunt work  gave me a glimpse of what stunt performers go through on Hollywood blockbusters. Mad respect.

The Jurassic World Dominion Scene We Recreated

Attending the Jurassic World Dominion home entertainment junket in Malta, a stunt experience was one of many among the various Jurassic interviews I would be conducting. However, as a fan of action and adventure films, being dropped into a scene where I’d fight off human and dinosaur alike sounded pretty epic. That became more apparent when it was specified the scene we journalists would be tackling was the hand-to-hand combat fight between Claire Dearing (Bryce Dallas Howard) and the mysterious Soyona Santos (Dichen Lachman).

Starting with their close quarters fight being filmed indoors at the Malta Maritime Museum, the second part of the scene would involve running on the roof of the building. While I would have a stunt performer doubling for Soyona during the indoors shoot, the rooftop chase was purely me and my imagination. When put together, the entire experience would be a marriage of movie magic and physical prowess. 

Part 1: Recreating The Rooftop Chase Sequence From Jurassic World Dominion

As a lot of actors will tell you, filming in sequence is a luxury that’s not always afforded to a production like Jurassic World Dominion. While I’d prepped with some of the fine folks at Phantom Stunts for the hand-to-hand combat portion first, the actual beginning of my stunt filming started me off with the rooftop chase sequence.

It was here where I was directed in part by Morgan Chetcuti, the Maltese stunt liaison and stunt performer from Jurassic World Dominion. On hand with other members of his Phantom Stunts team, I was quickly run through and filmed performing four separate pieces of the outdoor sequence. First, I had to jump off of a small ledge onto the ground, to simulate jumping out of a window and away from a pursuing Atrociraptor. Then, it was onto two separate running portions, where I would look off to the side and behind me at the beast pursuing me. 

Last, but not least, was the final jump that simulated a fraction of Claire’s jump from one rooftop to another. This involved running from further back on the rooftop, hitting a mark, and leaping onto some crash pads. To challenge myself a little more, I threw in some dialogue throughout these moments. All of this was done under the hot summer sun of Malta, but it was worth the sweat and the repetition to reenact this portion of the Jurassic World Dominion action. Thankfully, the next piece would be in a much cooler, but still challenging environment.

Part 2: Working Through Jurassic World Dominion’s Hand-To-Hand Combat

Backtracking a little bit in my story, the original plan was to film this Jurassic World Dominion stunt experience in order. As such, the day started with a quick interview with David R. Grant, a lead stunt performer from the 2nd unit on Dominion. After talking a little about the similarities between Jurassic World and James Bond stunts, it was off to preparing for the hand-to-hand combat portion of Claire Dearing and Soyona Santos’ fight. 

With the help of Peppijna Dalli and Monique Dimech, our two Phantom Stunts trainers, we all learned a series of simple moves for the hand-to-hand portion. Starting with a step/jump back to avoid being slashed with a prop knife, I then had to counter with a fake taser towards the camera and over my opponent’s shoulder. My arm would then be moved down, and it was time to duck and weave around another knife slash, before the final piece of the puzzle: pretending to be thrown against a wall, just like Claire Dearing. 

After finishing my training, and filming the rooftop chase sequence first, it was back inside in a mockup of the kitchen that Bryce Dallas Howard and Dichen Lachman fought it out in. Putting those moves together with some additional pieces of Jurassic World Dominion action, I squared off against Helen Bailey, the double for Soyona Santos in my scene. Being coached by David R. Grant throughout, we would run through the fight piece by piece, with notes and direction provided where needed. It was a process that helped me respect stunt performers who have to double stars like Chris Pratt even more than I already had. 

Why I Have Even More Respect For Stunt Performers Now

The main thing that David R. Grant had to remind me throughout our Jurassic World Dominion experience was to strike a very important balance. It was important to remember where the marks were, and what moves to make, but I also had to act as if I wasn’t anticipating them. This was especially important during the hand-to-hand combat sequence I had those moves memorized for, as this moment between Claire and Soyona was supposed to be a spontaneous fight for life.

While I had a lot of enthusiasm and energy for running, jumping, and fighting, it’s not my regular 9 to 5 job. Stunt performers do all of this for plenty more takes and set ups, in more harrowing conditions, and put their lives on the line to make it all look so easy. My Jurassic World 3 stunts were LEGO-scaled versions compared to the full reality, which includes a lot more moving parts and danger. In the microcosm I experienced, I gained a healthier appreciation for those who use their bodies as instruments of physically strenuous entertainment.

What The Finished Jurassic World Dominion Recreation Looks Like

After completing the Jurassic World Dominion fight scene between Bryce Dallas Howard and Dichen Lachman, I was already excited to see what the finished product would look like. All that had to be done at this point was for the editors to work their magic, and for the file to be delivered to my email. I would be lying if I didn’t say I was nervous for what the finished product would look like, and you can take a look for yourself:

I’d like to say I did a pretty good job with the overall experience, though I’ll admit that the hand-to-hand portion could have been a bit more fluid on my part. Overall, I was impressed with the results, and it’s as much fun to watch as it was to do. I’d like to once again thank the Phantom Stunts team, as well as Universal Pictures Home Entertainment for setting up this Jurassic World Dominion experience. It’s one I won’t soon forget, even with the aid of a handy video.

The franchise has remained a vital part of pop culture for the decades since, most recently returning to theaters with Colin Trevorrow’s Jurassic World trilogy. While Jurassic World: Dominion was filmed at the height of the pandemic and in the midst of extremely strict safety protocols, it sounds like making Colin Trevorrow’s threequel was still a joy for Bryce Dallas Howard. Enough that seeing behind the scenes footage at the process was enough to send her into tears. Talk about loving your job.

Considering how long Bryce Dallas Howard spent playing Claire Dearing and promoting the Jurassic World trilogy, it makes a great deal of sense that she might have a strong emotional tie to the movies. Filming for the first Jurassic World movie dates back to April of 2014, so she spent nearly a decade working with the property and her colleagues. 

In the end, all three of the Jurassic World movies were able to make a ton of money at the box office, including Dominion. But the threequel was the least favorite critically of the recent trilogy, with criticism directed at the pacing, script, and all those locusts. It’s currently unclear if/when the dinosaur property might return to theaters, but smart money says the studio might take a few years off.

As for Bryce Dallas Howard’s future, she’s got a thriving career as both an actor and director. Star Wars fans were super impressed with her work on shows like The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett, with some hoping she actually takes on a full-fledged movie within the galaxy far, far away. We’ll just have to wait and see where she takes her work as a filmmaker next.

Starting with Owen Grady (Chris Pratt) and Claire Dearing, Colin Trevorrow’s trilogy of legacy-quels has continued to expand the world beyond the gates of the ill-fated end to John Hammond’s ultimate vision. Jurassic World Dominion added that challenge on top of another, already established feat it had to accomplish: it needed to close out 30 years of Jurassic legacy with a fitting bang. 

DeWanda Wise understood that from day one, and I was able to learn it myself when sitting down with her and Bryce Dallas Howard. In celebration of the home entertainment release of Dominion, Universal Pictures Home Entertainment held a junket in Malta, which is the exact location where we meet the intrepid Kayla Watts for the first time. When reflecting on how this character build on the legacy of strong women in dinosaur-related survival situations, DeWanda shared the following thoughts with CinemaBlend:

Just as the actress pointed out above, Kayla Watts was indeed a fan favorite character upon the release of Jurassic World 3. Possessing a healthy sense of humor, and an appreciation for redheads that helped her bond with Owen Grady, the black market pilot-turned-hero made a huge impression in such a short time. Perhaps even more powerful than the fan response to Kayla's Jurassic debut is that of DeWanda Wise’s family.

In particular, the merchandising made a beautiful connection between the actor and her family. DeWanda Wise would go on to explain the major significance of one special toy she’s heard some adorable feedback for, as follows: 

Kayla Watts is a character that succeeded in a place where few others have: she was a much-hyped new addition to the team that lived up to the marketing, and then some. Of course, Jurassic World Dominion isn’t just about forging the future, it’s also meant to pay a fond farewell to characters like Claire Dearing. 

In that respect, Bryce Dallas Howard’s own words highlight just how far this character has come through the span of all three Jurassic World movies. And yes, “the heels” do come up in our next portion of discussion. 

How Claire Dearing Has Evolved With Jurassic World, According To Bryce Dallas Howard

I still remember a time when some thought Claire Dearing was somehow going to be connected to John Hammond in the Jurassic World legacy. Being introduced to an all-white clad figure of park management who’s ready to push the boundaries can kind of do that; but thankfully, the sentiment that I and other fans had expressed about Bryce Dallas Howard’s Claire came true in all the right ways. 

Much like DeWanda Wise, Bryce Dallas Howard had Claire pegged from frame one, and it only helped enhance her journey to Jurassic World Dominion. Drawing on the changes we’ve seen her character go through, Howard recalled having similar thoughts, and seeing them evolve in a way that she appreciated with the following commentary:

The Claire Dearing of Jurassic World certainly isn’t the one we see at the end of Dominion. Through that first walk through the park and, in the subsequent sequels, Bryce Dallas Howard’s workaholic woman with no interests in having a family has shifted her worldview. Fighting to save and preserve the dinosaurs she once oversaw as “assets,” as well as acting as a mother to Maisie Lockwood (Isabella Sermon), Claire’s transformation into a compassionate crusader has been one of the great treats in the Jurassic World saga. 

But what’s a look back on Claire’s life and times without talking about “the heels?” An infamous sticking point in the 2015 trilogy opener was the fact that Bryce Dallas Howard’s protagonist could run in heels, while being chased by dinosaurs. And it's something people still single out to this day. While Howard put the issue to rest a long time ago, those comments do tie into how she feels Dominion represents the evolution of the story, as well as her character’s wardrobe. As you’ll read in the next section of our conversation, she’s still very much a good sport about the matter: 

In her own way, Claire Dearing was the John Hammond of Jurassic World. This especially works when drawing the parallel of how she starts off as a person who believed in the illusion of control, but eventually growing a heart and working with the dinosaurs’ best interests in mind. Ditching heels for hiking boots, we even got to see the actress who plays her go full action hero with some of the stunts we saw her pull in Jurassic World Dominion. It's truly a far cry from trying to pitch Hal, Jim, and Erica on sponsorship for the Indominous Rex.

Dominion represents the end of co-writer/director Colin Trevorrow’s turn at the wheel of Michael Crichton’s cautionary tale of creation. Thanks to characters like Kayla Watts and Claire Dearing, DeWanda Wise and Bryce Dallas Howard have made their unique marks on this era of Jurassic history. Wherever the franchise goes from this point, should it progress, will only be better served by this continued foundation of vital female forces of nature that have helped this story find a way into the hearts and minds of the world.

Jurassic World: Dominion has been one of 2022’s biggest box office hits, raking in nearly a billion dollars. While viewers enjoyed the Jurassic World franchise finale, the same couldn’t be said about movie critics. Many critics had a lot to say about the blockbuster sequel, calling out the threequel for its dialogue, character development, and running time. A few critics referred to the film as “the worst entry in the franchise.” The negative critical reception led to the sequel receiving a tepid 30-percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Dominion stars DeWanda Wise and Bryce Dallas Howard finally reacted to the film’s poor critical reception.

The third installment didn’t fulfill the Jurassic World franchise’s potential, according to the film critics. But for the sequel’s stars, the film was fine as is with the Jurassic World stars teaming up with the OG Jurassic stars. DeWanda Wise (aka fan-favorite Kayla Watts) enjoyed the threequel and her experience making it. So, Wise didn’t take film critics’ reception into account when it came to the film’s success. She gave her take on critics to Insider:

As an actress, it appeared that the Someone Great star has learned to tune out critics regarding her work. It comes in handy especially when a film is panned by most critics. Wise further addressed her immunity to the film’s critical reception by saying “I don’t care.” Again, she wasn’t thinking about what others had to say about the threequel. DeWanda Wise kept the same energy as she speaks about putting her focus on the positive rather than the negative.

Well, Wise is much loved by both critics and fans with her performance as Kayla being singled out as the best character of the Jurassic World trilogy. Even her co-star Bryce Dallas Howard reinforced that DeWanda Wise and Kayla Watts were the overall fan-favorite, telling Insider:

The Kayla Watts love has not only led to praise from fans and film critics but an aching need for a solo film featuring the former Air Force cadet-turned-cargo pilot. The internet is already swirling with rumors of a spinoff with the Dominion fan-favorite character. While there’s not an official word of a Kayla-centric film, DeWanda Wise is open to doing one with Universal, mentioning the studio can contact her through multiple avenues.

The Jurassic World Pay Gap Between Bryce Dallas Howard And Chris Pratt Was Larger Than We Thought

Promoting the home video release of Jurassic World: Dominion, Insider’s interview with Bryce Dallas Howard revealed an even greater discrepancy in her pay for the trilogy. Citing a Variety report that had Howard being paid only $2 million less than Chris Pratt for 2018’s Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, that supposed knowledge was refuted by Howard as follows: 

Locking in a trilogy of movies at the beginning of a franchise can be a blessing, and a curse. Both are especially true when 2015’s Jurassic World broke all sorts of box office records in its theatrical release. With those deals set from the beginning, Bryce Dallas Howard couldn’t fight for an increase before Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom or Dominion. However, thanks to Chris Pratt’s dedication, the franchise’s newfound popularity led to some greater pay days for Howard after all. 

How Chris Pratt Fought To Make Things Right With Jurassic World’s Pay

With a saga like Jurassic World successfully reviving the almost 30 year old franchise, the Jurassic universe was bound to expand through other media. Those opportunities aren’t always negotiated from square one, and it’s here that Chris Pratt helped Bryce Dallas Howard, and other Jurassic stars, make a very important move. Howard continued her story by saying:

That negotiation couldn’t have come at a better time apparently, as it led to some pretty big opportunities for Bryce Dallas Howard especially. For starters, she’s featured in both Universal Studios Hollywood’s Jurassic World revamp of the franchise’s river ride, as well as in the pre-show for Universal Orlando Resort’s amazing VelociCoaster attraction. Not to mention, Howard is one of the franchise voices present in Jurassic World: Evolution 2, giving would-be park designers much advice and encouragement.

With fans hoping that the rumors Bryce Dallas Howard will be in the Fantastic Four reboot are true, it would seem that negotiations would be a lot more favorable for her potential entry into the MCU. The world definitely has changed since Howard signed onto Jurassic World, and thanks to Chris Pratt’s help, this is a case of change for the better. With a small role as the leader of the Guardians of the Galaxy in the recently-released film Thor: Love and Thunder, Chris Pratt is currently eating up the box office. However it’s his own new 2022 film and box office success Jurassic World Dominion that had him in the feels this past weekend. Pratt took to social media to share a sweet and heartfelt tribute to his Jurassic World franchise costar Bryce Dallas Howard, and I think my heart just grew three sizes.

Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard have been working together on the Jurassic World franchise through three films, from a park in chaos to dinosaurs retaking the Earth. Now that the franchise is seemingly over (or is it?), Pratt has some sweet words for Howard.

In a recent Instagram post, Chris Pratt talked Bryce Dallas Howard up and basically thanked her for joining him on the journey the Jurassic World franchise has taken them on. You can check out the post below, which marks a month since Jurassic World Dominion hit theaters:

I have a feeling these photos of of the two together respectively mark the beginning of their Jurassic World journey and the end of it. However, I couldn’t tell you which is which because the two stars both look great in both photos and don’t appear to have aged much at all over the eight years it took to make these three franchise films.

Some evidence to this theory can be found in Bryce Dallas Howard’s comment on Chris Pratt’s post, where she claimed one of the photos is the very first photo taken of the two. She said her father is actually the one behind the camera, giving her claim that the two are like siblings at this point a little more perspective. Howard went on to say that she will miss working with Pratt on the franchise, but that she feels as though she has gained a friend for life. Here it is in her own words, minus the red heart emoji that she ended her sweet comment with:

Okay, so I’m obsessed with the duo's platonic off screen relationship, but I’m kind of glad I didn’t know they were like siblings until after watching their romance flourish through all three films. What drives the popularity of the Jurassic Park franchise is obvious. The characters are cool, and there is strong thematic messaging about the arrogance of mankind, but the big draw will forever be the dinosaurs. The jaw-dropping wizardry in Steven Spielberg’s original film from 1993 brought the prehistoric creatures to life in a way that audiences had never seen before, and moviegoers have been chasing that extreme high in the sequels ever since.

In that sense (one of many), Colin Trevorrow’s Jurassic World Dominion is an extreme low point. Gone is the awe and wonder from the moment where Alan Grant (Sam Neill), Ellie Sattler (Laura Dern) and Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum) see a herd of brachiosauruses for the first time. In the sixth chapter of the series, dinosaurs are little more than living guns and window dressing.

This is a flabbergasting development when one considers that this franchise has gotten to the point where dinosaurs have become a part of ecosystems around the globe, and you wonder why the filmmakers couldn’t develop a story about that world-changing development. And while that’s bad, the actual execution is even worse. Orchestrating two bland, wholly disconnected plotlines, Jurassic World Dominion reduces all of its legacy characters into blank sheets of paper walking through plot developments, resulting in a slog of a film with only a light scattering of memorable moments in its bloated two-and-a-half hour runtime.

The first of these plotlines follows up the events of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom and finds Owen Grady (Chris Pratt) and Claire Dearing (Bryce Dallas Howard) having taken on the responsibility of being the guardians for Maisie Lockwood (Isabella Sermon), the young girl who we learned was a clone in the previous film. Together they have made a home deep in the woods of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, trying to keep Maisie safe from those who would like to take and study her – but this plan fails as a group of poachers discover her location and kidnap her (oh, and they also take the baby of Owen’s “pet” velociraptor Blue, but that development is ultimately given so little attention it might as well not exist).

Simultaneously in another part of the country, Ellie Sattler begins an investigation into swarms of giant locusts that are devastating crops – but curiously not those on farms that are grown using seeds made by the pharmaceutical conglomerate Biosyn. Theorizing that the insects are genetically modified using extinct DNA from the Cretaceous era, she enlists the help of her old friend Alan Grant, and the two of them make plans to go see Ian Malcolm, who has taken a job at the massive corporation.

By complete and total coincidence, all of the principal characters end up heading to the same location at the same time, creating a hollow meet-up of stars from different generations of the franchise that fails in any way to capitalize on or develop the personalities of the characters.

Jurassic World: Dominion has little to no idea what to do with its impressive lineup of established characters.

Like Colin Trevorrow’s Jurassic World, Jurassic World Dominion features a constant stream of nods to fans and Easter eggs that suggest that there is a genuine love for this franchise behind the camera, but it’s bizarrely never demonstrated in the actual storytelling. The arc for Owen and Claire never gets more advanced than “they’re parents now, and they want their kidnapped daughter back,” and it all but ignores their past with dinosaurs – the exceptions being an opening sequence where Claire liberates some of these creatures from an illegal breeder, and moments where Owen tries to calm a threat by holding out his palm (which eventually just feels laughably goofy).

The worse sin, however, is treating the “legacy” characters like they’ve spent the last 20 odd years of their lives treading water. The only meaningful development highlighted in the lives of Alan Grant, Ellie Sattler, and Ian Malcolm is the revelation that Ellie has gotten divorced (her marriage previously revealed in Joe Johnston’s Jurassic Park III), and that’s clearly only included to clear the runway for a romantic pairing fans have been wanting to see develop for the last three decades (and the conclusion is just as hollow as the setup). It feels like the filmmakers were afraid that audiences wouldn’t recognize the three protagonists if they weren’t exactly how they were in Jurassic Park, and it’s hard not to feel shortchanged by their big reunion.

Without meaningful character development or interesting plotting, Jurassic World: Dominion is a two-and-a-half hour-long slog.

Because the distinct plots are so disparate and vague, Jurassic World Dominion feels like two poorly constructed movies in one, and it just bounces back and forth between them. The inclusion of various action set pieces motivates the direction of the film far more than any complex revelations or compelling twists (of which this blockbuster has exactly zero). The action figures just slowly move from scene to scene until the third act when all of the action figures can come together… and not really do much at all.

There are thrilling moments, including the introduction of the crazy locust swarm and a sequence where Claire has to hide in a bog from a hungry carnivore, but otherwise, all action and emotion is mutually exclusive. At one point in the first act, Ellie pets a baby triceratops and comments, “You never get used to it” – but Jurassic World Dominion sure does try its hardest to try and suck all of the awe and wonder out of the exercise with laser-guided dinosaurs and giant carnivore battles that continue to play out meaninglessly even after all of the human characters are long gone from the scene.

The blockbuster model for Jurassic World Dominion is very clearly Avengers: Endgame – a capstone project that is intended to reflect cohesiveness in the continuity – but it fails in so many ways where the Marvel film succeeds. Rather than constructing a story that effectively captures the full scope of the franchise and takes advantage of the principal characters’ beloved qualities, we instead get two high-concept ideas that are mashed together in a structure-less mess with bad pacing and boring action. The only silver lining is that it is all but guaranteed to be a massive hit, so perhaps one day we’ll actually get the movie about the global proliferation of dinosaurs that this feature was supposed to be.

Just two weeks ago, Chris Pratt and wife Katherine Schwarzenegger welcomed their second child together, Eloise Christina. Considering the happy couple had their new daughter just ahead of Jurassic World: Dominion finally hitting theaters, Pratt understandably couldn’t juggle being both a movie star and dad in the past few weeks. Even so, the actor found a way to bypass that -- and it involved photoshop.

Chris Pratt took to Instagram to share Jurassic World premiere photos featuring Dominion castmates Bryce Dallas Howard, Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum, DeWanda Wise, Mamoudou Athie and writer/director Colin Trevorrow. Given that he couldn't be there, it makes sense that he would hilariously photoshop himself into the photos. Check them out: 

The star put together a fun set of photos featuring him in funny locations. In the first image, the actor is in the mouth of a T-Rex and, in the second one, he's on the top of a bus with the cast, with Goldblum seemingly looking straight back at him. In the third photo, he can be seen on the right holding a t-shirt that declares that he hearts raptors. The fourth one has the Owen Grady actor making a funny face behind Goldblum alongside fans. 

Ahead of the release of Dominion, the cast has traveled to Mexico, the United Kingdom and Germany for various premieres for the movie. As Chris Pratt shared on the social media platform, “daddy duty” kept him home. He joked that fan-favorite raptor Blue wouldn’t have been the best babysitter since it’s “kinda hard to change the diaper with those claws.” Yeah, makes sense. 

Of course, the Guardians of the Galaxy lead had the best reason to miss Jurassic World premieres. The actor wouldn’t want to miss Eloise’s first moments on the planet and leave his wife of nearly three years to fend for herself. The couple are also parents to Lyla Schwarzenegger Pratt, who was born in August 2020, making her nearly two years old now. (And both stars have done a commendable job of maintaining the little one's privacy.)

Even so, Chris Pratt was likely a bit bummed to miss the events, especially since the movie is said to be the “conclusion of the Jurassic era.” While Pratt doesn’t think Dominion will end the franchise forever, the flick, one of 2022's biggest upcoming movies does mark the end of the Jurassic World phase that started in 2015. 

Dominion follows the events of 2018’s Fallen Kingdom, where the dinosaurs are unleashed outside of Isla Nublar and throughout Earth. Chris Pratt’s Owen and Bryce Dallas Howard’s Claire will be attempting to live in this new world where people must coexist with the prehistoric creatures. The two also become pseudo-parents to Isabella Sermon’s Maisie Lockwood. Amidst this, the original trio consisting of Jeff Goldblum, Sam Neill and Laura Dern will reunite, and the franchise will introduce new characters played DeWanda Wise and Mamoudou Athie.

In Sam Raimi’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, audiences met the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s version of Reed Richards (John Krasinski), leader of the Fantastic Four… well, a version of the Fantastic Four from a realm known now as Earth-838. And while that version of Mister Fantastic didn’t last very long against Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) – dying in one of the sequel’s most gruesome moments – Marvel clearly has plans for the family of superheroes. There’s a movie coming, despite some bumps on the road to production, and new rumors suggest that Kevin Feige is seeking a big name to helm the feature centered around the Fantastic Four.

This news comes from the Twitter account of Deadline senior film reporter Justin Kroll, who quotes a source saying that Marvel’s list of potential Fantastic Four directors remains long, and that this person would be “shocked” if the replacement for Spider-Man: No Way Home director Jon Watts was revealed before Labor Day. And the reason given for this lengthy deliberation is that Marvel President Kevin Feige, thrilled with the collaboration with Raimi, wants another big name in the director’s chair for Fantastic Four. As Kroll notes:

Kevin Feige will always have his input. But given the fact that Marvel Studios is juggling so many projects between planned sequels for Deadpool, the re-introduction of Blade, the multiple Disney+ programs, and whatever the future plan is for mutants, we can understand his unwillingness to commit to a younger filmmaker like Watts or Destin Daniel Cretton, and commit to proven directors such as Chloe Zhao, Raimi, or James Gunn. With that in mind, we’ve selected seven possible directors who’d fit that bill, and also be fantastic choices (pun intended) to lead the MCU’s FF into the future.

John Krasinski

This one’s easy. John Krasinski’s A Quiet Place movies established him as a tentpole director, particularly with the way the second installment raised the stakes and played with more budget. Krasinski just played Reed Richards in the Doctor Strange movie, and he and his wife Emily Blunt have been fan-favorite choices to play Reed and Sue for years. Hand this power couple the keys to the franchise, and let Krasinski make the sci-fi Amblin family picture he’s been chasing.   

Peyton Reed

This would be a fun callback for Marvel historians, as well as a reward to Peyton Reed for a “job well done” on the Ant-Man series. Before he stepped in and replaced Edgar Wright on the first Ant-Man, Reed had a pitch for a Fantastic Four movie that would have been set in the 1960s and blasted past the team’s origin story to begin with them as celebrity superheroes. He has a passion for the material, he’s a proven MCU guy… so is it time for his shot? 

Bryce Dallas Howard

The Jurassic World co-star is hearing her name attached to this franchise in two forms. Some would like her to be in contention for Sue Storm, the Invisible Woman, and after her time in the Jurassic franchise concludes, she could transition over. But others (myself included) want to see her direct Fantastic Four for Marvel Studios, especially after the outstanding work she has been delivering in the Star Wars realm. Maybe Star Wars is her passion? But she has proven her talents as a filmmaker, and I’d love to see what she could do with the FF.

Bert & Bertie

This choice flies in the face of the theory that Kevin Feige wants a director with a name, but I so enjoyed the action work that Bert & Bertie did on the Disney+ series Hawkeye that I’d love to see them transition to Marvel features. Watch the Hawkeye episodes “Echoes” and “Ronin” to see what they are capable of, as well as their work on the pirate adventure series Our Flag Means Death. They’d be an exciting hire. 

Edgar Wright

Again, this would be Marvel giving someone a second chance – similar to the way they brought James Gunn back into the fold after hastily firing him from the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise. Edgar Wright developed Ant-Man for Marvel, then left the project over creative differences. He’s only improved as a filmmaker and storyteller, and his most recent Last Night in Soho proves he can do 1960s kitsch if that’s still in the cards for Fantastic Four. Also, we’d probably get Nick Frost as Ben Grimm, and that sounds excellent. 

Justin Lin

Could the Fast & Furious’s loss be Marvel’s gain? Apparently after failing to see eye to eye with Vin Diesel, Justin Lin walked away from Fast X, and should drive right over to Marvel Studios to take on Fantastic Four. Lin delivered some of the best installments of the Fast franchise. He’s a skilled action director who also hit one out of the park when he helmed Star Trek Beyond for Paramount. A franchise filmmaker with loads of experience in action and science-fiction? That sounds exactly what Kevin Feige is looking for, so give Lin a call. 

Brad Bird

Some argue that Brad Bird already made the best Fantastic Four movie, but called it The Incredibles. The powers used by the Parr family in the two Pixar movies absolutely resemble those of the Fantastic Four, especially Elastagirl’s stretching and Violet’s force fields. So, would Bird want to retread old ground and do FF in live action? His filmography suggests a deep interest in sci-fi (Tomorrowland, The Iron Giant) and action (Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol). And his announced feature 1906 lingers in development, meaning he might have time to transition to Marvel and give the FF a shot.

When we first met Bryce Dallas Howard’s Claire Dearing in 2015’s Jurassic World, she was the straight-laced operations manager of the dinosaur theme park who ran around the tropical location in a prim white outfit and high heels. As the trilogy comes to a close next month with Jurassic World Dominion, the lead character has had a change of heart, and is seeking out “redemption,” per director Colin Trevorrow’s recent description of the character. 

Following the events of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, which hit theaters back in 2018, the dinos are outside the confines of the park and co-existing with humanity. With Claire contributing to changing the ecosystem of Earth so intensely, her motivations have changed. As filmmaker Colin Trevorrow shared: 

When we meet Claire Dearing in Jurassic World Dominion, she’ll be the leader of the Dinosaur Protection Group and mothering living clone Maisie Lockwood alongside Chris Pratt’s Owen Grady. As Trevorrow told Variety, he aimed to explore her “guilt” and “regret” as a character following the events of the previous Jurassic World movies. 

Bryce Dallas Howard characterized Claire in Dominion as “someone who was on the wrong side of history” and is “trying to make it right.” Ah yes, we love a good redemption arc. Claire Dearing wasn’t especially likable when we first met her in Jurassic World, but over the course of the trilogy, we get to watch the character understand how her actions have affected things, and look back at herself and try to right her wrong. Trevorrow even called Claire Dearing the “protagonist” of the Jurassic World trilogy despite Chris Pratt’s top billing. 

Along with Dominion continuing the stories of Owen and Claire, the Jurassic World movie reunites the trio from the original Jurassic Park movie, Sam Neill, Jeff Goldblum and Laura Dern. Goldblum recently called getting back together with his castmates from the 1993 film an “unbelievable” experience along with giving the movie his stamp of approval. 

Dominion is set to be the end of an era for the Jurassic franchise; as the poster so eloquently shares, it’s the “epic conclusion of the Jurassic era.” Chris Pratt recently compared the recent Jurassic World trilogy to the Marvel phases, saying that perhaps this movie is a conclusion to another chapter and the franchise may continue through new stories.

Rumors over who’s going to play the new version of the Fantastic Four have been raging on for years. Things went into overdrive when Marvel CEO Kevin Feige announced Marvel’s First Family's official entry into the MCU. He even teased a potential Fantastic Four cast of new and familiar faces for the group’s MCU introduction. While the fanbase has pushed for married Hollywood couple John Krasinski and Emily Blunt to play Mr. Fantastic and the Invisible Woman, another A-lister has popped up in the conversation – Jurassic World: Dominion’s Bryce Dallas Howard. There have been whispers that Howard will take on the role of Sue Storm, and while she’s mostly ignored the speculation, the actress finally responded to those Fantastic Four rumors.

Over the past few weeks, rumors have been floating around about the actress not only starring as Sue Storm, but directing the Marvel film. Fans already got their wish of Krasinski playing Mr. Fantastic thanks to Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. But as far as Bryce Dallas Howard goes, while promoting Jurassic World Dominion, a fan gave her two Funko Pop figurines – Claire Dearing and Fantastic Four’s Invisible Woman - in a TikTok video. Upon seeing the latter, the emerging director tried shooting down the hearsay by replying:

It appeared the Rocketman actress was aware of the speculation and wanted to address them head-on. Of course, she was gracious and signed the figurine anyway. But given the MCU’s record of secrecy, Bryce Dallas Howard might be playing coy until the official announcement is made. She’s already in the Disney bubble with her work on various Star Wars Disney+ series, so it isn’t too farfetched for her to possibly direct and star in a superhero film.

Bryce Dallas Howard may have some competition to play the Invisible Woman. Many fans want Emily Blunt to play opposite her real-life husband in a potential movie, which would take the right kind of Fantastic Four story for her to get on board. Another potential Sue Storm might be an earlier portrayer – Kate Mara, who's open to reprising her role for the right director. These are just several actresses could play the superheroine, but many more might secretly be in consideration as we speak.

Serving as the film’s director might be a better bet for Bryce Dallas Howard. The Spider-Man 3 alum already proved she’s more than up for the task as clear by her work on The Mandalorian and Book of Boba Fett episodes, and she’s already set to helm a reboot of the sci-fi classic Flight of the Navigator for Disney+. Jon Watts departing the Fantastic Four reboot has left the opportunity open for the actress-director to helm a big-budget movie.

While Marvel fans hold their breath over any new development, they can watch Bryce Dallas Howard in Jurassic World Dominion when the Jurassic World finale arrives in theaters on June 10.

Following the release of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, the nine-film main narrative of the beloved franchise officially came to a close. The property’s future on the big screen feels pretty up in the air, although there are a few projects in the early stages of development. Bryce Dallas Howard has directed some truly beloved episodes of The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett, so would she helm a movie next? Here was her recent reaction.

Already an established actress, Bryce Dallas Howard has also been making a name for herself as a director, particularly within the galaxy far, far away. And some fans want to see her make a more expansive Star Wars project via in the form of a movie. She was recently asked by io9 what it might take for her to helm a movie project within the epic space opera, responding with:

Well, there you have it. It certainly doesn’t sound like Bryce Dallas Howard is against the idea of directing her very own Star Wars movie. But she simply hasn’t been asked by the powers that be at Lucasfilm to sign on to such a commitment. We’ll just have to see if this changes later, as we spend more years without Star Wars in the theaters.

Bryce Dallas Howard was asked about the possibility of a Star Wars movie while promoting her new movie Jurassic World: Dominion. She’s clearly proven herself capable of taking the reins of the beloved franchise, and using beloved iconography in a new and exciting way. And it seems like Lucasfilm is in dire need of a director who will get to work on the next chapter of the galaxy far, far away. 

A number of Star Wars projects were announced, but unfortunately there’s been no real movement toward actual production. Wonder Woman’s Patty Jenkins was going to have the honor with her Rogue Squadron movie, but that was put on hold, reportedly due to creative differences. The creators of Game of Thrones were attached to create their own project, but that seemingly got scrapped. And with nothing filming, it’ll be a number of years before we see a Star Wars movie on the big screen.

Of course, all is not lost, as there is another Star Wars movie that’s been announced. Thor: Love and Thunder director Taika Waititi is attached to put his own spin on the sci-fi property, which seems like a match made in heaven given his penchant for cosmic storytelling. 

Bryce Dallas Howard has so far directed three Star Wars episodes for Disney+, two in The Mandalorian and one in The Book of Boba Fett. And they’ve been some of the most iconic live-action episodes yet, with the latter helping to bridge the gap between the two shows. Plus, who could forget Grogu’s being attacked by his own soup?

While it's obvious that the best part of a wedding is seeing a beautiful couple share their love for one another, another perk is that the ceremony brings families together. Filmmaker Ron Howard’s brood just got bigger as of late, since his daughter, Paige, got married to actor and singer Tim Abou-Nasr. Her older sister, actress and director Bryce Dallas Howard, shared footage of the special day and revealed the fun advice their father gave to close out the ceremony.

The Jurassic World star shared a number of photos from Paige's wedding on her Instagram. Her sweet slideshow consisted of snapshots showing the bride and groom sealing their marriage with a kiss, with white roses in the background. Fans can also get a good look at the bride's dress, which was flowing with flowers. But the sweetest pic had to be the one of the two sisters alongside their father. In her caption, Bryce Dallas Howard mentioned how even though the pandemic delayed this ceremony, it was still a perfect day. They wouldn’t be the only couple to have done this, as Scarlett Johansson and Colin Jost had to postpone their nuptials and Bindi Irwin had to rush her own wedding to avoid COVID restrictions. But thankfully, all of these events came to fruition in beautiful fashion. In the post, Howard also made sure to thank her sister’s hair and makeup team as well as Hera Couture for designing the dress that apparently made everyone at the event “gasp.” 

Another important person The Help actress thanked was her father, Ron Howard. We know him as the former child star and director extraordinaire that he is but, on that special day, he was the wedding officiant for his daughter. Bryce included a video in her slideshow, which sees her father donning a Cool Hand Luke hat as a tribute to his own dad, actor Rance Howard. Before telling his future son-in-law to kiss the bride, he had to offer up his own fatherly advice for the newly wed couple that everyone is sure to remember:

Ron Howard and Bryce Dallas Howard have always had a close relationship, and it's clear that she's more than following in his professional footsteps. She made her directorial debut with the documentary, Dads, which centered around contemporary fatherhood. From there, she directed two episodes of The Mandalorian and an episode of The Book of Boba Fett. Her father offered his sage advice to his daughter about living and breathing in the Star Wars universe before she took on the first of her gigs with the franchise. Other than getting into dino-tastic trouble in Jurassic World: Dominion, the actress will also continue directing sci-fi with the reboot of Flight of the Navigator. Since that's going to keep her busy for a while, it's probably a good thing that the wedding did happen at this time.

Jurassic World: Dominion is certainly one of the more hotly anticipated releases coming this year. The third movie in the World franchise and sixth franchise movie overall is heading to the 2022 movie schedule on June 10. that’s still several weeks away, but as it turns out the cast has already seen the movie in full, and Jeff Goldblum and Bryce Dallas Howard appeared at CinemaCon this year to talk being “infinitely grateful” for the franchise and share their first takes on the film. Oh, and the new movie premiere will be a sweet moment for Jeff Goldblum's family, too.

Ahead of sharing some brand new footage, Jeff Goldblum and Bryce Dallas Howard spoke out a bit about their experiences in the iconic franchise. For Goldblum, going to the movie theater has always been the most “romantic” and “magical” experience for him and he genuinely seems enthusiastic about what Dominion is bringing to the big screen. 

In fact while many of us have already seen the Jurassic World: Dominion trailer, he's already seen the movie, noting:

Although Jeff Goldblum, Bryce Dallas Howard and co. have gotten to see the movie on a big screen already, it sounds like the veteran actor has a plan to go again, this time with his own little ones. His kids are young enough they've never been to the theater before, a fact which was amplified when the world shut down during the pandemic. But all of that's going to change when Universal's next major dino adventure comes out. 

I think a lot of us have early memories of the dinosaurs in Jurassic Park or Jurassic World scaring the bejesus out of us, and if Jeff Goldblum thinks his kids can handle the flick, that's doubtless going to be a lasting memory for them. And for anyone, really, who heads to the theaters to see the movie, which will not only bring back Ian Malcom, but will also reunite the character with Sam Neill's Alan Grant and Laura Dern's Ellie Sattler. 

Goldblum has previously called the Jurassic World: Dominion reunion "exciting," and he's not the only cast member who has been hyping up what is to come. Sam Neill has also been heavily hyping up returning for Dominion and now that the date is getting closer, anticipation is growing about as tall as a brachiosaurus. June can't come soon enough. 

Countless movie projects were shut down as a result of COVID-19, including Jurassic World: Dominion. But Colin Trevorrow’s highly anticipated blockbuster was one of the first movies to resume filming, albeit with new health protocols. And Dominion star Bryce Dallas Howard recently recalled bonding with the cast, and how Sam Neill and Jeff Goldblum entertained everyone.

Perhaps the most highly anticipated aspect of Jurassic World: Dominion is the fact that the OG trio of heroes will be reunited and starring in the project. This includes Laura Dern, Sam Neill, and Jeff Goldblum. According to Bryce Dallas Howard’s recent interview with People, the latter two actors were especially amusing on set. As she put it,

Honestly, I don’t blame her. While filming in the midst of a pandemic has its own challenges, Bryce Dallas Howard was seemingly thrilled to spend time with the cast of Jurassic World: Dominion, especially the iconic OG’s. Because who doesn’t want to have a jam session with Jeff Goldblum and Sam Neill?

Bryce Dallas Howard’s comments show just how strict the lockdown was for the cast of Jurassic World: Dominion. Since the blockbuster was one of the first movies to resume filming, the health protocols had to be strong in order to protect the health (and jobs) of the cast and crew. And as such, the actors spent a ton of time together– both on and off camera.

While this type of isolation likely created some challenges for the cast of Jurassic World: Dominion, it also seems to have bonded the actors who brought Colin Trevorrow’s threequel to life. It should be interesting to see how this influenced the performances of blockbuster, especially as the footage makes it seems like the ensemble has a ton of group scenes together. Fans especially can’t wait to see the original Jurassic trio back on the big screen, and with significant roles.

It looks like Jurassic World: Dominion will wrap up the story that Steven Spielberg and company began back with the original (groundbreaking) Jurassic Park movie. There are a number of returning characters from the 1993 original, aside from the aforementioned trio. And with dinosaurs now living among us on the mainland, the stakes have never been higher.

Though he may still be working in the world of his Kingman universe, director Matthew Vaughn just can’t pass up a good spy story. After reading a manuscript of mysterious author Elly Conway’s espionage thriller Argylle, Vaughn dedicated himself to shepherding this cinematic take on the project, and took Henry Cavill along for the ride. 

It wasn’t too long before a veritable who’s who of actors jumped on board, and before you knew it Bryce Dallas Howard and John Cena became a part Apple Original Films and Universal's picture, set to debut theatrically on the 2024 movie release schedule. As you’re about to see, the faces who are involved in this particular game are both familiar and intriguing. 

But before we go too far, let's take a look at Argylle's trailer. It's not only a lot of fun to watch, it will also serve as a primer for the dual pronged reality we're about to delve into.

Now that we have that out of the way, let’s take a look at the cast for Argylle. Starting, of course, with the actor whose character lends the film its very name. 

Henry Cavill

After making some trips to the world of espionage himself, thanks to The Man From U.N.C.L.E. and Mission: Impossible - Fallout, what we know about Argylle has Henry Cavill entering the spy game yet again. This time he’s a bit of a wild card, as our tale starts with this amnesiac protagonist being tricked into thinking he's merely an author of fiction. 

Or at least, that's what we were led to believe originally. Since the release of Argylle's trailer, the narrative seems to have changed. Henry Cavill's Aubrey Argylle is actually the fictional hero of the book that "inspired" Matthew Vaughn's film. Which only further complicates the intention to kick off a new trilogy of spy movies. Though the former star of The Witcher may have his ever busy hands full, Cavill hasn't ruled out James Bond for his potential future.

Dua Lipa

Playing agent Argylle's "elegant and lethal nemesis" Lagrange, we saw Dua Lipa's character pictured in the first official photo and footage of the film’s action. Co-star Henry Cavill hinting in a social media post that trouble was ahead, and the footage that later came along only confirmed as much. 

Everything from Dua Lipa trying to shoot Henry Cavill to being yanked off of a motorbike by John Cena was shown. And for the audience's sake, it appears that Dua's character is present in the fictional book narrative. One final note: while she was originally announced as writing the musical score and title song for Argylle, it seems that the score duties have now gone to Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One composer Lorne Balfe. 

Ariana DeBose

One of 2022's Academy Award winners, Ariana DeBose is also known for her credits in the cast of Hamilton and the Netflix original movie The Prom. Playing the role of "fearless field tech" Keira in Argylle; she seems to be another party present in the fictional Argylle narrative. At least her speeding away from an with Henry Cavill and John Cena in tow would seem to suggest that.

This also seems to indicate that Ariana DeBose looks to be someone we can trust. Which is more than we can say for her casting as supervillain Calypso Ezili in the Sony's Spider-Man Universe movie Kraven the Hunter. I hope we're not winding up for a potential double cross here. 

John Cena

Speaking of heel turns, John Cena is part of this amazing roster of talent as well! The wrestling veteran who became a blockbuster player, Cena has used The Suicide Squad to push his brand of chaos even further. Which leads to his part in Argylle, as Wyatt, a fellow agent (and best friend to) Henry Cavill's Argylle in the book world.

This combination looks to be one that takes full advantage of the Matthew Vaughn line of action-comedy and the Peacemaker star's talents in that realm. Seriously, that bike yank stunt is pretty impressive, as is his over it "man in the van" gag shown in Argylle's trailer.

Richard E. Grant

Rounding out the roster of characters in the Argylle books is celebrated actor Richard E. Grant. Inhabiting the role of Fowler, "a senior member of agent Argylle’s organization," there's a lot of potential for this character on either side of the moral fence. So his current implied alignment on the side of good shouldn't be taken too close to heart.

In terms of Richard E. Grant though, you can take his casting as a sign that Matthew Vaughn is really excited to pack both sides of Argylle's reality with top tier talent. Seen in everything from Withnail and I to Everyone's Talking About Jamie, Grant and his prolific talents have been spotted in blockbusters as of late; most notably as Allegiant General Pryde in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

Bryce Dallas Howard

Here's where it all starts to get complicated, readers. Who's the author of Argylle in the reality of us moviegoers? Elly Conway. Who's the character that Jurassic World Dominion's Bryce Dallas Howard is playing in Matthew Vaughn's film, based on Ms. Conway's book? Elly Conway. Apparently, the Kick Ass director's approach to adapting that book he loved so much during those early pandemic days was to co-create a movie with writer Jason Fuchs that gave it a meta spin. 

In the world of Argylle the movie, Ms. Conway is so astute at writing her spy plots that she's predicted real life capers, and attracted the attention of her world's espionage community as a result. So for the purposes of Matthew Vaughn's movie, Elly's world is "reality." Which makes it all the more confusing when trying to figure out how real the still unseen Elly Conway is in our world.

Sam Rockwell

From here on out, we're presumably going to be talking about the people that exist in Elly Conway's world within Argylle. And that's where Academy Award winner Sam Rockwell comes in, as he's playing Aidan, a spy who's trying to protect Elly Conway from forces that are seeking out her supposed skills as an oracle.

A jack of all trades, Rockwell was more recently seen by audiences in the Searchlight Pictures whodunnit See How They Run. Seeing as that movie has its own very meta approach to reality bending, Argylle shouldn't be much of a stretch for his chops; especially after reading how Sam's dual train fight with Henry Cavill really put him through his paces.

Bryan Cranston

Returning to the world of movies for the first time since 2020’s The One and Only Ivan, Bryan Cranston has still been a busy man. Leading up to his casting in Argylle, Cranston has been on stage with productions of both Network and Power of Sail, as well as led the Showtime series Your Honor. 

In the part of Ritter, Cranston seems to have returned to full on villain territory as the head of something only known as "The Division." Think of it as a real life SPECTRE. A spy chief who's been watching Bryce Dallas Howard's Elly Conway, this Argylle figure seems to be the big bad in her reality. And it looks like he'll stop at nothing to get his woman.

Catherine O'Hara

Comedy legend Catherine O’Hara’s best movie and TV roles make her a prime addition to the Argylle cast. Originally, it was theorized that the Schitt's Creek vet would be playing the character of Frances Coffey,“the CIA's most legendary spymaster.” 

However, that was before the truth about Matthew Vaughn's movie revealed that character as a figure from Elly Conway's book. In actuality, Catherine will be playing Ruth, Elly's mother. And from what we've seen in Argylle's marketing, she's pretty frustrated with her daughter's latest installment in the series. 

Samuel L. Jackson

This isn’t the first time that Matthew Vaughn and Samuel L. Jackson have teamed up in the world of cinema. A legendary acting talent, Jackson was also Richmond Valentine, the central villain in Kingsman: The Secret Service. And it seems like these collaborators had so much fun playing together previously, they decided to use Argylle as their big reunion.

Playing Alfred Solomon, the retired CIA deputy director that's helped give Elly Conway stories to write in the Argylle world, Jackson's previous history as the MCU's Nick Fury will probably come into play. Only Alfred doesn't seem to be as uptight as Director Fury ever was. 

Sofia Boutella

No one knows who Saba Al-Badr is working for, so her title as Argylle's “Keeper of Secrets” is even more applicable under that reality. While we'll have to wait to figure out who Sofia Boutella's character is working for, we do know that she's reunited with her Kingsman: The Secret Service director for what looks like one hell of a ride.

Currently Boutella is the face of another would-be franchise of blockbusters. As the functional lead of Zack Snyder's Rebel Moon series of Netflix original films, she's continued to flex her action muscles in bad ass form.  

Rob Delaney

Closing out the currently known cast list is another veteran of the cinematic intelligence community, comedian Rob Delaney. Recently seen in a quick appearance via Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One, the man has already proved himself to look good and authoritative in a uniform. 

Delaney’s comedy chops now find themselves put to the test among spies of different stripes, as Argylle marks yet another cinematic appearance by the man who made an impression as Peter in Deadpool 2. Per reporting by THR, Rob's role is "unknown, but it’s understood to be relatively small."

Thanks to Apple teaming with the folks at Universal Studios, this former streaming exclusive is now heading to the movies! Argylle is currently set to make its grand debut on the big screen, on February 2nd. Eventually, those with an Apple TV+ subscription will be rewarded for their patience, as that will be its streaming home.

However, we don't know exactly when that'll happen, as that information is classified. That said, if you want to start your mind bending journey into the world of Argylle, Elly Conway's first installment in the series is currently on shelves; and can be purchased on Amazon, or wherever fine books are sold.

I mean, how cute is that? Jurassic stars old and new are uniting for Dominion, and the gang’s all back together for what is sure to be a long and grueling press tour. While they had challenges filming the movie in the midst of the pandemic, that might have bonded Bryce Dallas Howard and the rest of the cast. We’ll just have to see what insane dino-action is going to come once the movie finally hits theaters this summer.

While they’ve been involved in the Jurassic franchise occasionally since the original movie was released, this marks the first time they’ll be reunited in the same project. Director Colin Trevorrow guaranteed that their parts are big in the movie, and they got plenty of screen time in the trailer that’s shown above.

Also featured in the photo is Chris Pratt, who is the male lead of the Jurassic World franchise. We also see newcomer DeWanda Wise who is playing a character named Kayla in Dominion. It’s unclear how she’ll factor into the story, but she’s seemingly an ally of Pratt’s character Owen.

The end of an era is coming for Bryce Dallas Howard, as Jurassic World Dominion is months away from release and will wrap up this era of the Jurassic Park franchise. For now though, Howard has chosen to reminisce about her time working on the film series. As such, she revealed her favorite thing from being part of the long-running, dinosaur-packed franchise, and why actors specifically should relate to it.  

Bryce Dallas Howard opened up about working on the Jurassic World movies in the email newsletter for her production company Nine Muses, specifically what she loved about working on the trilogy. Howard’s favorite thing about doing the film might surprise viewers, as she said:

Much like with the original Jurassic Park films, using animatronics was an integral part of making the Jurassic World series more grounded. Despite film technology continuing to advance, Bryce Dallas Howard loved working with practical effects, and the first look at Howard in trouble and hiding from a dinosaur in a swamp during Dominion drove that home. The actress couldn’t stop raving about other practical effects used to make the character-dinosaur interaction so realistic, also noting that why "theatre lovers" will get how all this stuff helps the films to come to life.  

Equating her Jurassic World experience with those of her theatre days was a spot-on comparison, as animatronics and stand-ins carry the same weight. It’s all about the imagination and allowing the actor to get lost in the moment. A key component of the films is believing the actors and dinosaurs are in the same physical space, so practical effects were essential to making that connection.

With Jurassic World Dominion serving as the current trilogy’s finale, Bryce Dallas Howard and co-star Chris Pratt deal with the effects of Isla Nublar’s destruction as humans and dinosaurs co-exist in the same world. The duo is joined by OG Jurassic Park stars Jeff Goldblum, Laura Dern and Sam Neill, as seen in the latter two stars’ return in a first look (Goldblum previously cameoed in Fallen Kingdom). Director Colin Trevorrow made sure to balance the onscreen time of new and legacy characters to create some old-school-new school tension. As seen in the first trailer, everyone bands together to save the planet, but it leaves more questions than answers about the final film. Despite Dominion being the finale, producers (and fans) aren’t ready to see the beloved dino-centric franchise end as they teased there are more Jurassic stories to come.

We still have a little while to wait before Jurassic World reaches its finale, as Jurassic World Dominion will arrive in theaters on June 10. Along with Dominion, there are a ton more upcoming movies set for release in 2022, so if you've been planning a return to the theater, there are plenty of choices.

It’s amazing what one trailer can do for a movie like Jurassic World Dominion. Though teases have been given here and there, the full weight of the story is finally starting to come into view. As the first trailer for director Colin Trevorrow’s threequel has now been allowed to roam in the wild, we now have a bunch of fantastic glimpses into the reality of this new world. Conversely, we also have eight big questions that are kickstarting the next round of anticipation. 

Before we get too deep into the woods teeming with genetically-reconstructed creatures of prehistory, you should probably watch the trailer yourself. Whether you’ve had it on a loop throughout the day or haven’t seen it at all, we present to you the first trailer for Jurassic World Dominion.

How Do Jurassic World Dominion’s Dinosaurs Reproduce?

Right out of the gate, we need a lesson in the dino birds and bees in this brave new world. Showing the public a brand new baby raptor tagging along with proud mama Blue is absolutely aww-inducing, and it gives our dino protagonist a new facet to explore. But without another raptor in the wild (that we know of), gender-flipping DNA goes only so far in explaining how this new baby exists. 

What Happened To Ellie's Family From Jurassic Park III?

While we’re on the subject of family, it was fantastic to see Laura Dern’s Dr. Ellie Sattler and Sam Neill’s Dr. Alan Grant reunited, presumably in the Montana dig site we first met them at in Jurassic Park. But only raises another huge question, and it’s something that the Jurassic World movies have kind of skirted around: sequel continuity. In terms of Jurassic Park III, we have to ask what happened to Ellie’s family, and why they aren’t shown in this trailer? 

Why Are There Jacked Up Raptors (And More) In Europe?

At the end of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, we did see some dinosaurs being auctioned off the highest bidders. Some of those parties had their goodies shipped throughout the world, so seeing dinosaurs loose in Europe is not terribly surprising. Where the situation starts to get hazy is where those new jacked-up raptors we’ve seen chasing Chris Pratt came from. Could this tie back to wild dino breeding, or are we finally seeing “open source” dinosaurs roaming free?

Is That A New Hybrid That’s Worrying Dr. Wu?

BD Wong’s Dr. Henry Wu returns in Jurassic World Dominion looking like a genius who’s either in captivity or exile after the events of previous two films. Whichever scenario is applicable, the trailer frames him as being worried about a DNA sequence that we’re briefly shown on screen, which seems to hint at another hybrid. Granted, it's possible these could be two unrelated scenes, and we were previously told that Jurassic World 3 would have no hybrids. Still, those rules may have been changed or broken somewhere along the line. This is a franchise that loves to wave smiling as it ignores laws of nature and genetics, after all. 

Is That A Secret Base Or A New Jurassic Theme Park?

Humanity does not learn in the world of the Jurassic saga, as we’ve seen with many theme parks and dinosaur projects recurring over almost thirty years of history. So this shadowy new spot of high tech appearance that Dr. Grant is flying off to looks like it could double as either a secret base for the as-of-yet unseen Lewis Dodgson, or it could be a new theme park just waiting to go online. Again, this could go either one of two ways, and we’d like to know whether to book tickets or practice invasion tactics to get in.

Did We See The Entire Jurassic World Dominion Gang On Isla Sorna?

Chris Pratt once teased Jurassic World Dominion as the Avengers: Endgame of the franchise, and the shot of the classic and modern casts together matches up to that description rather beautifully. Could there be a chance that this big team up is headed to The Lost World: Jurassic Park’s Isla Sorna? This setting looks vaguely similar to the worker's village in the first Jurassic sequel, and we already know there's going to be some globe-trotting in this new caper. If so, it would make total sense, as that was where the dinosaurs were bred and raised for the parks, and all the infrastructure was there for the taking in Jurassic Park III. 

Are Owen And Claire Trying To Hide Blue Or Maisie?

In the aftermath of the previous Jurassic World film, Owen and Claire promised that they would look after Maisie Lockwood (Isabella Sermon) no matter what. That responsibility is pretty taxing, considering she’s the only living human cloning experiment that exists on the Earth in this world. So when Owen starts talking about how “we have to protect her, that’s our job,” he could be referring to that particular oath; or he could be talking about Blue and her baby. Those scenarios are equally valid, but whichever one happens to be discussed at that moment seems key to what we see happen in this next adventure.  

Could Owen Grady Die In Jurassic World Dominion?

Claire Dearing and Owen Grady’s relationship has been blooming throughout this trilogy. So as the finality this chapter seems to be sold with feels like an indicator that all bets are off when it comes to character safety, it feels like the stage is set for a major death. Those fears didn’t get any easier to deal with when Chris Pratt’s character states “I always come back” when told by Bryce Dallas Howard to do just that. 

Killing off a major Jurassic Park character, or even Roberta the Tyrannosaurus from the original trilogy, feels a bit too much. But killing Owen might be the middle ground that shows that Jurassic World Dominion has serious stakes at risk in this final chapter. Could Owen have just signed his own death warrant, horror movie-style? 

All of these burning questions and more will be answered this summer in Jurassic World Dominion. Opening exclusively in theaters on June 10th, dinosaurs will rule the Earth once more, and it looks like quite the adventure is on the way. Thanks to the events of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, many of the dinosaurs who made it off Isla Nublar before the island was wiped out are now roaming free. With Jurassic World Dominion taking place four years after the fifth entry in the Jurassic Park franchise, the public continues to face danger from these prehistoric creatures around every corner. Case in point, our latest look at Dominion sees Bryce Dallas Howard’s Claire Dearing in a troubling predicament with a dinosaur.

Following on the heels of the five-minute prologue that originally played in F9 IMAX screenings being officially posted online, the first official Jurassic World Dominion still has been released to the public. As you’ll see below, Claire Dearing is submerged in a swamp with what some fans believe is a Therizinosaurus behind her. 

Is Claire in that swamp to avoid being detected by the dinosaur? Was she in the swamp for a different reason and the dinosaur just happened to come by? Either way, one wouldn’t be faulted for worrying about her just a smidge, and while it stands to reason she’ll make it out of this situation alive, you can be sure this won’t be the only instance of dino-filled trouble she gets caught up in.

Jurassic World Dominion director Colin Trevorrow, who also co-wrote the threequel’s script with Emily Carmichael, didn’t provide any context for this scene to Total Film, but he did say the following about how it was difficult for him to find reference points for this movie given its open world nature rather than being set on an island/park like its predecessors (other than the T-rex’s brief outing in San Diego during The Lost World: Jurassic Park):

We’re still being kept in the dark about specific Jurassic World Dominion plot details, but one thing this movie will not be lacking in is familiar faces to join Bryce Dallas Howard and Chris Pratt. The original Jurassic Park trio of Sam Neill, Jeff Goldblum (who briefly appeared in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom) and Laura Dern are reuniting after nearly three decades of being apart, and BD Wong, Daniella Pineda, Justice Smith Isabella Sermon and Omar Sy will reprise their respective roles. The newcomers include Campbell Scott (taking over Lewis Dodgson, previously played by Cameron Thor, Mamoudou Athie, Scott Haze, Dichen Lachman, DeWanda Wise, Elva Trill and Dimitri Thivaios. 

With such a stacked cast, it’s no wonder Chris Pratt once described Jurassic World Dominion as being like the Avengers: Endgame of the Jurassic Park franchise. That said, it’s been clarified that this will not be the last entry in the film series, but instead mark “the start of a new era.” With half a year to go until the blockbuster’s release, hopefully a trailer will arrive soon to give us a better idea on how this current era will end with a bang.
