The women of The Gilded Age are always well-dressed, both on screen and off. However, as I’m sure you can imagine, their fabulous looks in the HBO show and their personal styles don’t exactly match. That was brilliantly proven recently, too, as Cynthia Nixon, Carrie Coon, and their costars all wore edgy suits to an event a few months after their show ended on the 2025 TV schedule that couldn’t be less Gilded Age-coded.

If you were to go watch an episode of The Gilded Age, you can expect drama and power struggles that take place in opulent homes between people who wear incredible clothes. For the women specifically, their characters are always wearing the most stunning and extravagant gowns.

However, here in the modern day, the cast still looks luxurious, just in a trendier way. Take a look:

The cast reunited to honor their HBO show at an FYC event in New York City. As you can see in the image above, both Cynthia Nixon, who plays Ada Forte, and Carrie Coon, who portrays Bertha Russell, are wearing blazers without a shirt underneath. They’re also both wearing pumps, with Coon’s being bright pink, and they are each rocking a pixie cut.

Christine Baranski, AKA Agnes van Rhijn, and Taissa Farmiga, who plays Bertha’s daughter Gladys, both opted for more traditional suits.

Meanwhile, Louisa Jacobson, who plays Marian Brook, opted for leather trousers, a long blazer, black boots and an off-white t-shirt. It was very punk rock of her, and it paired so well with her short hair. I imagine that if Agnes, Marian’s aunt, saw this outfit, she’d have the same kind of fit she had when Marian announced that she got a job. And I mean that as a compliment.

None of these looks would fit in The Gilded Age, and I’m obsessed with the fact that they are the antithesis of what the women of the show wear. Don’t get me wrong, I love the gilded gowns, the bright colors, the big hats and the detailed hairdos. I also love that corsets are having a moment in the modern day. However, I’m so here for these actresses’ personal styles too, and the way they juxtapose each other is honestly brilliant.

Overall, this moment with the cast is just getting me excited about what’s to come. I binge-watched the first three seasons with my HBO Max subscription this year, and now I cannot wait for The Gilded Age Season 4. Society is changing, power is moving around, and we were left on some major cliffhangers that need to be addressed.

I also need to see the looks these women rock on their next outings as the characters of New York’s high society. However, for now, I’m thrilled that they all got together and rocked these edgy suits that scream anything but The Gilded Age.

The popularity of The Gilded Age, the first three seasons of which are currently available with an HBO Max subscription, just keeps growing. The Julian Fellowes-produced show is a natural follow-up to his hit Downton Abbey, which came to a (presumable) end last year with the final movie, Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale. Like that series, The Gilded Age is great at giving fans what they want: drama and turn-of-the-century eye candy.

The show was renewed in July 2025 for a fourth season, and it promptly set a record for viewers, with the Season 3 finale bringing in its highest ratings ever for the season finale. That finale, which aired at the beginning of August, also left us with a lot of unanswered questions that have fans like me already waiting with bated breath for Season 4.

We're pretty sure Season 4 will hit the 2026 television schedule later this year, and we've learned about some exciting cast additions, so let's get into what we know so far.

What Is The Season 4 Release Date

Of course, this is the biggest question, but unfortunately, it's too early to know. The Gilded Age Season 4 release date hasn't been announced yet.

Going on previous gaps between seasons, I can make a decent guess that sometime around March 2027 is when Season 4 will air. That’s about 19 months after the end of Season 3, which aired 19 months after Season 2. And Season 2 came about 20 months after Season 1. However, given the growing fanbase of the show, as it just seems to keep gaining viewers, and the fact that the show was included in HBO's sizzle reel for 2026, I'm holding out hope that maybe it'll premiere before the end of the year.

The show had remarkable success in Season 3 in terms of ratings, with each of the final three episodes setting new viewership records each week. HBO may consider striking while the iron is hot and pushing for a shorter timeline.

Returning Cast Members

All of the regulars we've come to know and love will be returning to The Gilded Age cast for Season 4. And there are some really fun new additions as well, including Dennis Haysbert and Jim Gaffigan (and he's playing a former president!) Here's who we know will be back:

Carrie Coon (Bertha Russell)

As the de facto lead character in a show with a truly ensemble cast, Carrie Coon will be back to play Bertha Russell, the ambitious wife of a robber baron determined to rule New York Society in the 1880s and ‘90s. Coon was nominated for an Emmy in 2025 for her work in Season 2, and I’d be surprised if she isn’t nominated again next year for this most recent season. She’s remarkable on the show.

Morgan Spector (George Russell)

Morgan Spector plays George Russell, Bertha’s husband, a ruthless robber baron and powerful member of the business community. George isn’t afraid to risk everything to dominate commerce and destroy his business rivals. Season 3 ended with George and Bertha separated, with George no longer living in the lavish mansion on 61st Street, but at his club instead.

Louisa Jacobson (Marion Brook)

Marion Brook, played by Louisa Jacobson, ended Season 3 with her engagement to the Russells’ son, Larry, and that relationship is sure to play a large role in the upcoming season of The Gilded Age.

Taissa Farmiga (Gladys, Duchess of Buckingham)

Season 3 was a huge turning point for the Russells’ daughter, Gladys, who became what was known as a “Dollar Princess,” an American heiress who was married off to a member of the British Aristocracy. Gladys married the Duke of Buckingham towards the end of the season and is now living on his estate in the U.K. Though she's living on the other side of the ocean, I'll bet she can still influence her father.

Harry Richardson (Larry Russell)

Larry’s engagement to Marion at the end of Season 3 ensures that Harry Richardson will almost certainly play a large part in the next season of the show. He also seems poised to follow in his father's footsteps, running Russell Consolidated Trust.

Denée Benton (Peggy Scott)

Denée Benton has had quite a few ups and downs in her life, and at the end of Season 3, things were definitely looking up, as she is engaged to Dr. William Kirkland (Jordan Donica, who has been promoted to a series regular for Season 4). As she’s been one of the main characters since the beginning, we’ll certainly be keeping up with the next phase of her life.

Cynthia Nixon (Ada Forte)

Ada Forte, or Aunt Ada, played by HBO veteran Cynthia Nixon, had a fascinating story arc in Season 3, after becoming the head of the household that had been dominated for so long by her widowed sister. How will that play out more in Season 4? It's sure to be tense.

Christine Baranski (Agnes Van Rhijn)

Christine Baranski’s Agnes Van Rhijn is a bit like the late Maggie Smith's character, the Dowager Countess of Grantham, in Downton Abbey. She’s got a sharp tongue and plenty of quips about how terrible change is in the strict world of the Victorian/Gilded Age. She's on her back heels now that her sister controls the family's fortune.

The Various Downstairs Characters

The staffs in the Russell and Forte houses has always been an important part of the story, and as such, actors like Simon Jones (Bannister), Jack Gilpin (Church) aren't yet confirmed, nor is Ben Ahlers (whose character, Jack, now finds himself with his own house after striking it rich), Douglas Sills (Monsieur Baudin/Mr. Bordan) is also not cofirmed, but he's become one of my favorite characters, so here's to hoping the chef is back in the kitchen!

New York Society

Of course, the heart of the show is the ruthless drive to sit atop all of New York Society. Donna Murphy will be returning as the formidable Mrs. Astor, Ashlie Atkinson, who plays Mrs. Fish, has been promoted to series regular, and Blake Ritson (Oscar Van Rhijn) is set to return. Kelley Curran as Enid Winterton (the former maid known as Turner) and Audra McDonald (Dorothy Scott) will also be back.

One character that might not return (though I’d hate to see him go) is Ward McAllister, played by Nathan Lane. McAllister ended the season in disgrace and was shunned by all society. This happened to the real McAllister in 1890, and he never recovered. Not everyone has been confirmed, including, most notably, Phylicia Rashad, but I'm still holding out hope she will be added soon.

New Cast Members

There have been some exciting additions to the cast announced by HBO as well. Jim Gaffigan will try his hand at playing a US President, portraying President Grover Cleveland. Dallas Roberts will be playing Cleveland's Treasury Secretary Daniel Manning. 24 and Major League star Dennis Haysbert has also joined the cast as a character named Dr. Reginald Harris. Other new additions include:

• Bonnie Milligan as gossip columnist Louisa Knapp Curtis
• Neal Huff as John D. Rockefeller
• Taylor Trensch as Oliver
• Maggie Kuntz as Fiona Summers
• James Scully as Lee Klein
• Elizabeth Marvel as Virginia
• Andrew Burnap

As a fan of American history, I'm stoked to see names like President Cleveland and John Rockefeller on the cast list.

What I Hope To See In Season 4 Of The Gilded Age

Season 3 left us with a number of cliffhangers and questions. Gladys is pregnant, Bertha and George are estranged, despite George’s recovery from the shooting, Larry and Marion are engaged, and the balance of power in New York society is on the verge of shifting from Mrs. Astor to Bertha. Jack has come into a tremendous amount of money, alongside Larry, after selling his alarm clock patent. Peggy and Dr. Kirkland are engaged, which will certainly anger the doctor’s snobby mother (Phylicia Rashad).

So many questions and, sadly, likely a long time will pass before we see where each story goes, but I’ll be sure to update this story whenever we have new news to report!

HBO doesn't have a monopoly on prestige television, but they are the king of it. The network loves to work with the same people who have proved they have what it takes to make great shows. That includes many of the same great actors who appear on more than one show. Some of these actors have appeared in three or four (or more) shows over the years, but for this list, we're sticking with at least two, usually the ones they are best known for. Actors like Wendell Pierce, Cynthia Nixon, and many more.

Wendell Pierce - The Wire And Treme

Wendell Pierce first broke out as the best-dressed detective in the Baltimore Homicide Unit on The Wire. Pierce's character, Bunk Moreland, appears in every episode of the show. A couple of years after The Wire ended in 2008, the show's creator returned to HBO with Treme, and it was a natural fit to include Pierce, who is a New Orleans native, in the cast.

Carrie Coon - The Gilded Age And The White Lotus

2025 was a huge year for Carrie Coon on HBO. Not only did she return for Season 3 of The Gilded Age as the determined high society lady, Bertha Russell, but she also killed it on the third season of the anthology series The White Lotus. She stole the show with her monologue in the final episode of that show, while continuing to dominate New York society in the 1880s in The Gilded Age.

Steve Buscemi - The Wire And Boardwalk Empire

Steve Buscemi's first appearance on HBO came when he joined the cast of The Sopranos as Tony Blundetto, Tony Soprano's cousin, in Season 5 of the legendary peak TV-era show. He wasn't on the show long, but a couple of years later, he played a much bigger role on Boardwalk Empire. He played the fictional mob boss Nucky Thompson in the period piece created by Sopranos writer Terrance Winter.

Evan Rachel Wood - True Blood And Westworld

Evan Rachel Wood started her career as a talented child actor and made her first appearance on HBO as a recurring character in True Blood. She made an even bigger splash on the network as one of the main characters in Westworld. Wood also appeared in the miniseries Mildred Pierce on HBO.

Alexander Skarsgård - True Blood And Big Little Lies

Alexander Skarsgård is a true HBO regular. His first show for the network, the limited series Generation Kill, aired in 2008 and he returned to the network that same year as a series regular in the vampire hit True Blood. While still starring on that show, he made a one-off appearance in the series finale of Eastbound and Down. He was a main cast member on Big Little Lies, playing a very dark character (and earning an Emmy in the process), before he took on a notable guest-starring role in Succession, earning two more Emmy nominations.

Sydney Sweeney - Euphoria And The White Lotus

Sydney Sweeney burst onto the scene alongside her castmates in the teen drama Euphoria on HBO in 2019 and in 2022, she also appeared in Season 1 of The White Lotus. She earned not one, but two Emmy nominations that year, one for each show.

Edie Falco - Oz And The Sopranos

The HBO show Oz was an early entry in the "peak TV era" from the network, running for six seasons in the late 1990s and early 2000s. The cast of Oz was stacked and included Edie Falco as Officer Diane Whittlesey. That isn't the show she is most famous for on the network, of course. As Falco's time was coming to a close, she landed the role of a lifetime as Carmela Soprano in The Sopranos, and her amazing performances earned her three Emmy awards.

Aidan Gillen - Game Of Thrones And The Wire

Petyr "Littlefinger" Baelish in Game of Thrones is one of the great TV villains of all time, and the character was played brilliantly by Aidan Gillen. It wasn't Gillen's first major role on HBO, as that came a few years earlier when he played the ambitious politician Tommy Carcetti on the final three seasons of The Wire.

Cynthia Nixon - And Just Like That And The Gilded Age

itsCynthia Nixon has been a staple on HBO for decades now, starring as Miranda Hobbes in And Just Like That... and it's predecessor. She's also one of the stars of the incredible period drama The Gilded Age as the spinster-turned-wealthy widow Ada Forte, née Brook.

Michiel Huisman - Game Of Thrones And Treme

Treme, which ran for four seasons on HBO, had a whole host of actors who were HBO regulars. Michiel Huisman, who played the musician only known as "Sonny" on the New Orleans-based show, was also starring in a little show called Game of Thrones at the same time on the network, playing Daario Naharis.

Michelle Monaghan - True Detective And The White Lotus

It must be incredibly rewarding for any actor to have the opportunity to star in two anthology shows on HBO. Michelle Monaghan knows exactly how it feels. She first starred in Season 1 of True Detective and, more recently, was part of the stellar cast of Season 3 of The White Lotus.

Michael K. Williams - The Wire And Boardwalk Empire

The late Michael K. Williams left behind an incredible legacy at HBO. He was, of course, one of the most incredible TV characters of all time as Omar Little on The Wire, and he followed that up with a great turn as a gangster in 1920s New Jersey in Boardwalk Empire. Those weren't his only appearances on the network. He popped up in a one-off scene on The Sopranos in 2001, then later in the miniseries The Night Of. His final television credit before his tragic death was on the HBO show Lovecraft Country.

Alexandra Daddario - The White Lotus And True Detective

Before earning an Emmy nomination for her great turn as newlywed Rachel Patton in Season 1 of The White Lotus, Alexandra Daddario had a recurring role on another HBO anthology series, True Detective, during its first season. She even had a cameo early in her career in The Sopranos.

Murray Bartlett - The White Lotus And The Last Of Us

It's easy to see why The White Lotus was such a monster hit when it aired its first season, with Murray Bartlett stealing the show as the hotel manager who gets caught in a serious downward spiral as the show goes on. He's hilarious and heartbreaking at the same time. Later, he was cast in "Long, Long Time," one of the most beloved episodes of The Last of Us, as Frank, the deceased lover of Bill, played by Nick Offerman. While it was only one episode, it was so good that we had to include it here. Bartlett was also a regular cast member on the HBO show Looking.

Danny McBride - Eastbound And Down And The Righteous Gemstones

What is there to be said about Danny McBride's various sitcoms on HBO? After making his name in supporting roles in movies like Pineapple Express and Tropic Thunder, he arrived on HBO in the now-legendary Eastbound and Down. His next hit for the network was Vice Principals alongside Walton Goggins, and then as Jesse Gemstone on The Righteous Gemstones.

Clarke Peters - The Wire And Treme

It's hard to believe that The Wire is one of those shows that never won an Emmy. That goes double for the excellent cast, including the great Clarke Peters, who played Lester Freamon in all five seasons of the show. Like some of his co-stars on the show, he also appeared in Treme on HBO.

Jeanne Tripplehorn - The Gilded Age And Big Love

Jeanne Tripplehorn is a veteran actor whose career stretches back to 1992's Basic Instinct. She was a big part of Big Love on HBO as Bill's only legal wife in the show about polygamy in Utah. Tripplehorn also starred in a recurring role on The Gilded Age as a disgraced high society outcast who happens to be one of the kindest characters on the show. She was also nominated for an Emmy for her role as Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis in Grey Gardens on HBO.

Jeffrey Wright - Westworld And Boardwalk Empire

Jeffrey Wright is one of the best actors of his generation, and he's had an opportunity to show off just how great he is in multiple HBO shows. First, he won an Emmy for his role in the miniseries Angels in America. Later, he had a recurring role on Boardwalk Empire, before his fantastic turn on Westworld, for which he was nominated for three more Emmys, but sadly didn't win one. In 2025, he reprised his voice role in The Last of Us video game in the HBO adaptation.

Jamie-Lynn Sigler - The Sopranos And Entourage

Jamie-Lynn Sigler occupies an interesting spot here. Of course, she's best known for her role as Meadow Soprano on The Sopranos. Her next role on HBO came in a role that was a fictionalized version of herself dating Turtle in Entourage.

Walton Goggins - Vice Principals And The White Lotus

Walton Goggins has been one of the hardest-working actors in Hollywood for many years, and in 2025, he really upped his profile with his fantastic performance in Season 3 of The White Lotus. It was his third major show on HBO after Vice Principals and The Righteous Gemstones.

Lena Headey - Game Of Thrones And The White House Plumbers

She played one of the greatest villains of all time on Game of Thrones, and Lena Headey returned to HBO in 2023 in the underrated miniseries The White House Plumbers, where she played Dorothy Hunt, wife of one of the Watergate burglars, E. Howard Hunt.

Pedro Pascal - Game Of Thrones And The Last Of Us

Like a lot of actors, Pedro Pascal put in a ton of work early in his career with one-off roles in every show you can imagine. Then, in 2014, he was cast as Oberyn Martell on Game of Thrones, and his career blew up. More recently, he's been breaking hearts on The Last of Us on HBO.

Indira Varma - Game Of Thrones And Rome

The Game of Thrones cast was absolutely stacked, including the great Indira Varma, who played Ellaria Sand in 13 episodes of the show. That wasn't her first time in an HBO show, however. In 2005, she starred as Niobe in two seasons of Rome, the incredibly underrated (and expensive to produce) historical drama created by John Milius.

Jim True-Frost - The Wire And Treme

Jim True-Frost's character in The Wire has one of the most interesting character arcs on a show full of great arcs. His performance as Roland Pryzbylewski was, like so many others on the show, nothing short of excellent. Like others on The Wire, True-Frost also starred in Treme. He even had a cameo in Boardwalk Empire as legendary lawman Eliot Ness.

Kim Dickens - Deadwood And Treme

Kim Dickens has a stellar television resume, and two jewels on that CV are both HBO shows. First, she was one of the main characters, Joanie, in Deadwood. Later, she starred on Treme.

John Hawkes - Deadwood And Eastbound And Down

The original cast of Deadwood was a bunch of heavyweights, including John Hawkes, who played Sol throughout the run of the show. A few years later, the versatile actor returned to HBO in a completely different kind of role as the brother of Kenny Powers in Eastbound & Down. Most recently, he put in a fantastic performance in Season 4 of the anthology series True Detective.

Rose Leslie - Game Of Thrones And The Time Traveler's Wife

The Time Traveler's Wife is one of the more under-the-radar shows in HBO history. Rose Leslie led the cast of the show that was canceled after one season, despite a passionate fanbase. Of course, Leslie first became a star on HBO as Ygritte on Game of Thrones.

Bobby Cannavale - Boardwalk Empire And Vinyl

Bobby Cannavale really made his name on HBO as the volatile gangster Gyp Rosetti in Boardwalk Empire, though his first gig on the network was in a small role on Six Feet Under. After Boardwalk Empire, he teamed up with the creators of Vinyl, starring in the lone season of the short-lived show.

Edi Patterson - The Righteous Gemstones And Vice Principals

The Righteous Gemstones and Vice Principals are two shows that were perfect for Edi Patterson. She's wonderful at playing quirky characters, fitting in great with the cast of both of those shows.

Domenick Lombardozzi - The Wire And Boardwalk Empire

Herc in The Wire is an obnoxious character that is hard to love, but Domenick Lombardozzi's performance charms everyone who watches the show. He repeated the feat later on Boardwalk Empire.

Regina King - Watchmen And The Leftovers

If anyone on this list needs no introduction, it's the great Regina King. She is a force of nature in everything she does, including two excellent HBO shows, The Leftovers and the one-and-done Season of Watchmen.

Michael Imperioli - The Sopranos And The White Lotus

Some people might remember Michael Imperioli as Spider in Goodfellas, but most will first know him as Christopher Moltisanti, Tony's frustrating nephew in The Sopranos. He returned to HBO in Season 2 of The White Lotus and once again reminded fans of the network how great he can be.

Dear readers, it’s officially “upfront season.” That’s when networks and streamers that are currently enjoying the spoils of the 2025 TV schedule look ahead to the future. For the folks at Warner Bros. Discovery, this comes with a pretty big decision, and it’s one that even their marketing department is roasting them on.

Max subscription holders, you’re gonna laugh when I tell you this: HBO Max is the new-old name for this streaming destination. The announcement was made through the official channels, and the suits in charge surely knew that this would be something people would talk about. As you’ll see in this first post, their approach is to both inform the public and make fun of themselves, with John Cena delivering the news in his Peacemaker uniform:

If that’s not a good way to remind everyone that Peacemaker Season 2 is on its way, I don’t know what is. And in the interest of further brand synergy, that DC hero isn’t the only one getting in on this action. I present our next exhibit: Superman in “Crisis of Infinite Branding”:

Oh, HBO Go Supes… I remember you most of all. Seriously, this has been a quite a ride since 2023’s first Max rebranding announcement, and just as we’ve all kind of settled in with that new black and white logo on our streaming devices - BAM! The game has changed again, much as it does when a new pope is elected - which leads us to the next message:

All I’m saying is if HBO Max really wanted to play that card, they should have gotten Jude Law to reprise his character from The New Pope to announce the news. Then again, wouldn’t that news sound better coming from The White Lotus Season 3 cast members Carrie Coon, Leslie Bibb, and Michelle Monaghan?

Fun fact: Carrie Coon’s joke about HBO giving her work is no joke, as you can see her on platform in The Leftovers, The White Lotus Season 3, and of course The Gilded Age. That last title will finally debut its third season on June 22, which is a lot closer than Euphoria Season 3’s potential 2026 premiere. But that doesn’t mean we’re totally devoid of teen drama, as you’ll see below:

What better way to promote your name change than to pepper it with memes that tie in current shows, future Warner Bros. movies that’ll debut on the platform, and highly visible third seasons?

Well played, HBO Max. You’ve definitely earned this final post, whereThe Pitt heartthrob/executive producer Noah Wyle lays out the history of this brand’s name game:

It takes a lot of guts to admit that changing HBO Max’s name to Max in the first place was a mistake. And now that this pleasing walking back has taken place, who knows what could be next?

Maybe they’ll reverse Westworld’s cancellation, allowing Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy to finally close that story out properly! Perhaps the rights issues surrounding Tales from the Crypt will be solved, and the series will finally be available for streaming? I know I may be asking for a lot here, but if Max can become its former self again, what isn’t possible at this point?

Spoilers ahead for The White Lotus Season 3 finale.

Despite the finale airing a week ago, those with Max subscription are still reeling from the wild finale of The White Lotus Season 3. My personal favorite storyline in the third season was about "The Ladies" aka Laurie, Kate and Jaclyn. Carrie Coon absolutely slayed the finale with her moving monologue, but I'm shocked another touching moment from this dinner wasn't scripted.

While some folks figure out how to watch The White Lotus Season 3, I've spent the last week re-watching the finale's most memorable scenes. That includes the last dinner shared between the ladies, where Carrie Coon delivered a devastating monologue about self-worth and friendship. Afterward Jaclyn and Kate tell Laurie that they love her, and it turns out that was actually improvised. Leslie Bibb revealed this during a conversation with Bustle, offering:

How touching is that? The White Lotus Season 3 cast clearly bonded on set, especially as they kept each other company for months while filming in Thailand. That's seemingly why the ladies' words of love for each other felt so natural when Bibb and Michelle Monaghan said them to Carrie Coon during their final emotional scene together. And I'm shocked the moment wasn't already in the script.

While this season of The White Lotus offered viral moments like the Ratliff brothers' kiss, many fans (myself included) were drawn to the too-real female friendship plot line. Being a fly on the wall as the three women gossiped about each other and tried to keep their frustrations at bay was thrilling television. And while they all ultimately survived the shooting that's been teased throughout Season 3, that didn't make their final dinner any less memorable.

Rumors have been swirling about feuds amongst the White Lotus Season 3 cast, largely thanks to comments Jason Isaacs made that promptly went viral. While the public doesn't know what really happened behind the scenes in Thailand, Leslie Bibb's recollection of filming the finale offers a lighter take.

While watching these three old friends gossip and compete for men's attention was fun, Carrie Coon's character in particular made sure that there were real emotional stakes involved. From the moment she cried in Episode 1 it was clear that Laurie wasn't feeling quite as happy and blessed as her two travel companions.

Of course, the Gilded Age actress finished off her tenure as Laurie by hilariously sprinting away from the shooting that occurred in the finale. So she didn't depart the White Lotus without one more laugh. All three seasons of the acclaimed dark comedy are streaming now on Max.

Even though it feels like we just pulled up to the welcome dock at The White Lotus’s Ko Samui resort, and somehow our erotically disturbing and stress-swept journey has only one last leg to go during the 2025 TV schedule in the form of the Season 3 finale, "Amor Fati." So many storylines need to be wrapped up in the installment, which will be around 90 minutes in length, with the mystery shooter situation still the biggest question mark.

But before it can all get laid out for us in full for another delightfully twisted night of HBO programming, let’s make a few weighted guesses about what definitely won’t happen before the finale’s credits roll, as well as a couple of things that likely will.

Definitely Won't Happen: Gary Reveals That He Actually Is 100% Innocent Of Everything That Was Ever Suspected Of Him

To see actor Jon Gries in interviews and in lighter roles from his career, and it's almost shocking how quickly he becomes the guiltiest-looking person in the room while in the role of The White Lotus' name-switching Gary. Through all three seasons so far, the slow-moving character has earned the ire of every Tanya-adoring viewer, but all without the show every fully proving him to be a black widower culprit.

His explanation to Belinda in Episode 307 almost seemed like it could have been sincerely true, if only it had been uttered by anyone else but Gary. I don't fully suspect that creator Mike White will tip his hat 100% in the direction of Gary's guilt, but I am entirely convinced that the show will not wrap up this storyline by revealing that Gary-as-Greg hasn't ever done anything wrong or put anyone else in danger, and that his health issues have been entirely authentic. Not gonna happen.

Probably Will: Tim Keeps The Family In Thailand As A Fugitive

The White Lotus has been almost uncomfortably content with showing audiences exactly what it would look like if Jason Isaacs' tension volcano Tim murdered his entire family before turning a weapon on himself. (To the disgust of Duke representatives, among others.) But even if Gaitok hadn't already stolen the gun back without Tim's knowledge, I still don't think it's in the Southern-bred pill-popper's nature to go out on such a sordid and headline-making note.

Instead, I think Tim will come to the realization that his best attempt to avoid all of his legal troubles and financial woes stateside is to avoid going back home altogether, with his family necessarily staying near to avoid their own investigations. Granted, all of their assets have likely been frozen, and I doubt any of them are keeping giant cash bags around, but it’s far easier to envision Tim embracing Buddhist minimalism than to picture him opting for murder-suicide.

Definitely Won't Happen: Laurie Makes Three Wise Decisions In A Row That Benefit Her Mental Health, Job Life, And Friendship Choices

I think we all know someone like Laurie who seems to only make the kinds of decisions they know they’ll regret later. Even if that assumption is largely influenced by Jaclyn and Kate’s smack-talk, Carrie Coon’s character certainly hasn’t tried to buck their expectations at all, with her ill-considered sexual conquest as the latest example.

Granted, I think that festering resentment stems from her having previously been in love with Jaclyn’s husband, and that the latter’s infidelity reopened some of Laurie’s old wounds. Regardless, The White Lotus’ finale will most definitely not feature a good-decision montage in which Laurie permanently elevates her sunny disposition, makes the best possible job change, and finds a set of new friends whom she doesn’t harbor ill thoughts towards. I think she’s stuck in her unfortunate-but-relatable friend triangle for the long haul.

Probably Will: Jim Hollinger Fucks Rick's World All Up

Fresh off of playing Vince Vaughn’s father in Bad Monkey, Scott Glenn entered the monkey-focused White Lotus as a bad man responsible for killing someone else’s father. (Impossible to typecast this guy.) But despite Jim Hollinger arrival being prefaced with allusions to health problems, and despite the performance feeding into that, Glenn isn’t the actor one casts to flinch and cower and fail to respond when another man pushes his chair over.

No, Glenn is the dude who gets cast to show up out of nowhere and rain untimely hell onto whoever is most deserving. And with Rick utilizing Sirita to find her hubby, she knows exactly where he’ll be going after leaving Bangkok. I fully believe that Jim faked his feebleness more convincingly than Sam Rockwell’s Frank faked being a movie director, and that he will return in the finale to brutally wipe the contented smile from the face of Walton Goggins’ character. And that Aimee Lou Wood’s scene-stealing Chelsea will be amazing as it all goes down.

Definitely Won't Happen: Saxon And Lochlan Explore Their Incestuous Feelings Via Family Meeting

Perhaps The White Lotus’ biggest shocker came when Patrick Schwarzenegger’s Saxon proved himself to be a three-dimensional human in the aftermath of getting freaky to the deaky with Lochlan. That said, the ego-maniac came to the self-realization that he’s but a hollowed-out husk without the dependable comforts of a wealthy hetero lifestyle, while Lochlan didn’t exactly seem very normal when visiting the temple with Piper. This trio of offspring could definitely do with an endless cycle of therapy.

That said, I certainly do not foresee Saxon and Lochlan addressing their complicated feelings head-on with each other, which makes the eventuality of the entire Ratliff family talking about their brotherly love about as likely as Parker Posey’s Victoria growing a second head just to show off her hats. One can only hope that learning about the horrors awaiting Tim back at home completely overshadow every single atypical moment that went down on Chloe’s boat. It’s fine (and deserved) if he still remembers Chelsea repeatedly turning him down.

• Belinda will get, and keep, Pornchai's number.
• Zion will not agree to have sex with Chloe for the sake of Gary catching them in a fit of horny jealousy.
• Chloe will find someone to volunteer after Zion says no.
• Jaclyn will not reach self-awareness about her own destructive behavior.
• Kate will end up giving one of the Russians money that they lie about needing.
• Valentin will not ever watch any of Jaclyn's movies.
• Victoria will discover Tim took all her pills and will illogically try to make him throw them back up.
• Piper will not think Buddhism is cool anymore after Tim and Lochlan have shown interest.
• Gaitok will risk his life to save Mook's, only to realize she is not the perfect match like he imagined.
• Frank will continue to abuse substances until it kills him.
• Fabian will not land a record deal or Las Vegas residency.
• Chelsea will realize that trying to be a motherly protector to Rick is on the same spectrum of weirdness as Saxon and Lochlan's mess.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is a behemoth force in the entertainment industry, one that constantly puts out content in theaters and streaming with a Disney+ subscription. Fans who spent years watching the Marvel movies in order went crazy upon the release of Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame, which were the cumulation of the entire franchise to that point. Carrie Coon voiced Proxima Midnight, a member of Thanos' Black Order in the first movie, but didn't get any lines in Endgame. And her husband explained that money was part of the issue.

While fans are looking forward to upcoming Marvel movies, news about previously entries are still trickling out. Case in point: Coon's husband Tracy Letts appeared on The Big Picture, and revealed that the pair of actors have never actually seen Infinity War or Endgame. As he shared:

Honestly, I respect the hustle. Upon its release, Avengers: Infinity War became one of the highest grossing movies of all time. So when it came to be time for Carrie Coon to record Proxima Midnight's dialogue Endgame, she seemingly wanted a pay bump. But can you blame her?

Unfortunately, it doesn't sound like the studio appreciated Carrie Coon's negotiations for Endgame. And this explains why Proxima Midnight didn't get any more dialogue in the follow-up blockbuster. As Tracy Letts shared:

Shots fired. It sounds like Coon and Letts had no interest in sitting down for those pair of Avengers movies, even if they wanted to fight the fact that Proxima Midnight was featured in Endgame without her performance. Guess they're not Marvel fans like so many of us.

Carrie Coon's character only had a few lines during Infinity War, but her performances really helped to bring the other CGI character feel real. In the end we got a few brief, wordless appearances by Proxima Midnight during Endgame's final battle.

The next MCU flick hitting theaters is Thunderbolts* on May 2nd as part of the 2025 premiere list. As for Carrie Coon, she's busy starring in Season 3 of The White Lotus.

With just one episode to go before The White Lotus Season 3’s run on the 2025 TV schedule comes to an end, fans are going crazy with theories about who the shooter is and who dies. Meanwhile, I find myself getting so caught up in the too-real female friendship between Jaclyn, Laurie and Kate. Carrie Coon delved into why many women like myself can relate to the trio, and it’s almost sad how right she is.

In “Killer Instincts,” passive aggression and backhanded compliments finally gave way to full-on rage, particularly between Jaclyn (Michelle Monaghan) and Laurie (Carrie Coon), after Jaclyn’s affair with resort employee Valentin. Even Kate (Leslie Bibb) got caught in the crossfire. Coon told Harper’s Bazaar that this story resonates with viewers because an understanding of female friendships is “the one piece of the puzzle that everybody has some relationship to.” She continued:

Personally, I feel so exposed watching this story play out, because I see similarities between the characters and my own (less toxic) girlfriends, where we all grew up together but these days interact almost exclusively in a group chat. I couldn’t help but compare what was happening on The White Lotus to our own rare reunions, thinking, “Ha! That’s exactly how that would happen,” while hoping really hard that we’re not nearly as catty.

Carrie Coon said that kind of comparison — regardless of gender — is human nature. She continued:

The issues that drive the tension between the women are likely topics that many of us have discussed in one way or another with our own friends: Laurie gets upset that Jaclyn cheated on her husband; Kate gets confronted over voting for Trump; and Laurie becomes the topic of gossip over how much she’s drinking. Carrie Coon spoke to how she chose to make Laurie relatable through that storyline, saying:

This friendship story may not be the most salacious plotline of The White Lotus Season 3 — what with all the brotherly love, the reappearance of Greg (sorry, “Gary”), and that Internet-breaking monologue from Sam Rockwell — but I have little doubt that, sadly, Laurie, Jaclyn and Kate’s story is the most relatable.

There are lots of mysteries to be solved in regards to what happens to The White Lotus Season 3 characters as Mike White’s dark comedy plays out on the 2025 TV schedule. Fans are dying to know what Greg is up to and how much we should worry about Belinda, but another big question might be how the creator was able to predict real-world events? After President Trump became the topic of conversation on a recent episode, some of the cast admitted they questioned the timeliness of the topic.

One of the stories we’ve been following on this third installment of The White Lotus (available to stream with a Max subscription) involves longtime friends Jaclyn (Michelle Monaghan), Kate (Leslie Bibb) and Laurie (Carrie Coon) reuniting for a girls trip. In the episode "The Meaning of Dreams," Kate’s friends are shocked to learn she voted for Trump, and Bibb admitted to EW she didn’t realize how relevant that topic would still be, saying:

When the current season of The White Lotus filmed, we hadn’t yet been through the 2024 election, so Leslie Bibb was only thinking about 2016. For his part, Mike White couldn’t actually have known that voting for Trump would still be such a hot-button issue that people are talking about in 2025.

Factually, sure, the stress-inducing group of female friends could have been referencing Trump's first presidency and, in that case, I can see how Leslie Bibb would wonder if the events of eight years ago would still be topical. She wasn’t even thinking about the 2024 election making that issue relevant again, as she said:

Donald Trump officially announced that he was running for president again in November 2022, but many weren’t thinking that far ahead, and The White Lotus was filmed before the race (and tensions surrounding it) heated up.

Mike White definitely had an eye on the future when he added politics to the list of polarizing subjects for Jaclyn, Laurie and Kate to tackle, and it definitely fit right in there with their other topics of conversation like each other’s religious beliefs, love lives and physical appearances.

The scene in question set Kate up to be ostracized from her friends, much in the same way she and Jaclyn had stayed up late gossiping about Laurie earlier in their trip. I’m afraid tensions are just going to continue to boil between the three old friends (sorry, longtime friends) until at least one of them explodes.

Real talk: one of the reasons I think I love The White Lotus so much is how unrelatable so many of the characters are to me. While I of course love a series that explores the kind of problems I deal with in my own life, there’s something especially beautifully escapist about watching these incredibly wealthy people have an absolutely bonkers vacation at a luxury resort that I don’t think I’d ever stay at – unless I won the lottery, I guess? Not to say I’ve never related to a single plot in The White Lotus before (I mean rich people are just like us, right?) and there are always characters Mike White has on the show that kind of serve as the everyman – which very much feels like Natasha Rothwell’s return as Belinda this season), but, I really wasn’t expecting to relate to one plotline.

It's the trio of women this season. This one is hitting harder than usual, and I need to discuss.

Alright, The White Lotus Friend’s Trip Plotline Is Stressing Me Out So Hard

There’s a lot going on right now in The White Lotus as we find ourselves halfway through the season. We finally know why Walton Goggins’ Rick is at the resort, and we’re still boiling over the return of Greg Hunt after Tanya’s death, and what it will mean for Belinda’s safety. But, weirdly enough, I find the friendship dynamic between these ladies to be the most nailbiting.

You know what I’m talking about. Michelle Monaghan plays a famous TV actress named Jaclyn Lemon who is with her longtime girlfriends vacationing in Thailand. Leslie Bibb plays Kate Bohr, who’s currently something of a country club wife who lives in Austin, Texas, whereas Carrie Coon plays Laurie Duffy, a corporate lawyer and recent divorcée who lives in New York. These three haven’t seen each other in forever, and spend conversation after conversation seemingly having pleasant exchanges, but it's obvious to any viewer that they are more so showboating and judging each other, and it honestly makes me sick to watch.

I Definitely Wasn’t Expecting To Relate To These Passive Aggressive Friends, But Here I Am, I Guess

The element of the relationship that is bothering me the most is how they speak to and about each other. The truth is, these passive aggressive women aren’t only representing how affluent white women in their 40s talk to and about each other, but what I’ve seen across the board my entire life. And it’s the kind of thing I currently run so far away from whenever I start to notice it sinking into relationships I'm part of. From conversations I’ve had within my own friendships with women or ones that I observe outside myself, this show is allowing me to reflect on a more common dynamic than we don't give women enough credit for.

Whether it's a tinge of negativity in response to someone reporting an impressive life update, or a silent takedown when one is threatened by a new friend, it’s an omnipresent part of the female experience we don’t put a mirror to enough. The topic has obviously been portrayed in movies and TV before, but it usually fits into one extreme of the friends being ridiculously toxic to each other or being all-time besties. Sure, there’s a heightened satire to the relationship being presented as they converse, but I wasn’t ready to start reflecting on my own friendships after watching.

When Laurie Tapped Against The Glass After Kate And Jaclyn’s Conversation, I Felt That

Chiefly, I could relate to the many times where I’ve been in group settings, and then had smaller conversations about someone else talking about how another common friend was acting down the line. It’s so cringey to see it happen in the context of a TV show’s dialogue, especially having lived it prior.

Perhaps, the perfect example happens at the beginning in Episode 2 when Jaclyn and Kate start talking about Laurie in their suite while she’s elsewhere. While they start their discussion with talking about all these positives about her, it quickly turns into them gossiping about her divorce, family and work life. When you look at the conversation, the two women are basically comparing facts they know about Laurie, passing judgments about her and discussing her perceived failures in relation to their own life choices. Then, Kate says “no wonder she looks tired” after saying she looks “great” just a few minutes prior at the top of the conversation.

Their talk is interrupted by Laurie tapping on the glass to come into the room, which leads both of the other women to suddenly shower her with compliments and kind of playfully fight over her… as if they weren’t just talking behind her back. I’ve since gone about my life and reflected about how much women regularly do this to each other, even when it’s not our intention to be malicious. Why do we feel the need to be in competition with one another, both in the context of our own friendships and in relating our lives to theirs?

Their Toxic Dynamics Show The Dark Side Of Female Friendships

Or, there’s the conversation Jaclyn has with the older women at the pool. Instead of enjoying their company, she cannot stand being associated in the same space as people who are older than her because it makes her confront that she’s not young anymore. The friends could have technically gone anywhere and had a good time, but because they are so caught up in appearances and comparison, they find themselves hanging out with much younger men at a bar. Their vacation isn’t about their actual friendship at this point at all, but proving to the others they are doing better.

What’s sad is these women were on a solo vacation in Thailand, they probably would have a better time because they wouldn’t be concerned with whether they are seen at a pool full of older women, or how their body scan stacks up. No wonder solo travel is so popular nowadays.

There’s Years Of Boiled Up Emotions Between These Three, And I’m Scared To See What Happens Next

While there’s literally murder at stake in the new season, I find myself at the edge of my seat over this trio of friends. I really hope the season ends with them having a moment where they realize how they are treating each other and break the barrier and truly have a good time, but I have a feeling things are going to really come to a head after all that backtalking and passive aggressive speech.

Mike White and the writers did an incredible job of bringing this facet of dynamics women can fall into to light in The White Lotus, and I cannot wait to see what’s next for the plotline.

After two years, The White Lotus officially returned to HBO, and your girl’s got theories.

Like the monkeys of Thailand featured in the premiere episode, The White Lotus Season 3 swung onto our 2025 TV schedule with a luxury-filled February premiere. We've now finally met the cast of characters that we'll no doubt get to know very well over the next several episodes. With all the casting announcements over the years, it’s about time we got to see all these actors in action while making grand predictions about them.

Because as is the case with any The White Lotus season, theories begin to take hold the moment the first episode starts, and Season 3 has me in a chokehold already. Let’s get into the six massive theories for what I think will happen this season.

The Girl’s Trip Will Dissolve Into Everyone Admitting How Much They Actually Hate Each Other

There’s a reason why there’s a stereotype out there that girls' trips tend to dissolve into chaos. And I have a feeling that's where things are going for Michelle Monaghan, Carrie Coon and Leslie Bibb's characters.

From the moment we meet Jaclyn, Kate and Laurie, there’s something...off about the trio. It feels as if they’re excited for this vacation, as anyone should be, but the more interactions we see even on just the first day, the more it feels as if there’s a massive disconnect between all three of them.

Or at the very least, Laurie is the the odd one out. As we see, she literally excuses herself from the table at one point to go and drink while sobbing in her room. That’s not necessarily the right way to start a good girls' trip. But it’s really because all Kate and Jaclyn are so complimentary about each others' lavish lives, while Laurie is left out of it.

But I also think the former two are engaging in passive-aggressive types of compliments, and that each is probably secretly jealous of the other’s life. Which will no doubt lead to some big blow-up between them, presumably sparked by Laurie unleashing a comment that leads to all three cracking. Childhood bonds sometimes stick, but with these three, I’m not feeling it, and I know they’ll fall apart.

Those Brothers Are Going To Have Sex – Or At The Very Least, Something Sexual

Look, this is HBO., so I’m not even going to sugarcoat it. What’s an HBO drama without a bit of incest? It usually happens in the channel's best fantasy shows like Game of Thrones or House of the Dragon, but others like Six Feet Under have introduced it into a more modern reality, so why not here?

As jokey as this might sound, I do think something is going to happen between Sam Nivola's Lochlan and Patrick Schwarzenegger's Saxon. (Who names their boys that? What?) There wouldn’t have been as much tension around the conversational focus on sex, I wouldn't think. And Lochlan's lingering look at his sibling's nude body wasn't there for frivolity's sake.

I think the more prominent way this theory plays out is with the reveal that Lochlan isn’t biologically related to Saxon and Piper, and will be adopted. I think Piper and Saxon are Timothy and Victoria’s biological children, but I also think something feels kind of off with Victoria (played by Parker Posey, whom we already adore) - I’m not sure what. Still, maybe whatever it is led to them adopting a third child instead of conceiving one, and it’s perhaps why Lochlan has such weird, seemingly sexual energy with Saxon.

Either way, these two are definitely going to do something. I don’t know if it’ll be sex, but there’s something that will go down. Cough, cough. Wink, wink.

Chelsea And Chloe Will Conspire Against Their Middle-Aged Men

Okay, so Chelsea is already my favorite The White Lotus cast member, and I say that with full transparency because I get such sweet vibes from her. It feels like she genuinely wants to help Rick, but he’s just…middle-aged and grumpy about not meeting up with the man he traveled there to see.

But there’s something about this suddenly bursting friendship between Chelsea and Chloe – the model who is dating Greg, the White Lotus Season 1 cast member who was Tanya’s lying husband – that I love.

I know a lot of people assume that it’ll turn into a romance or something between them, but I don’t think that’s the case. I think these two are going to conspire against their lovers. Not to the lengths of killing them, maybe, but still working together to force their respective partners into treating them right, or taking their money as an alternate.

I don’t know—maybe it’s just my inner girl-lover persona who wants to see them fight back against men who treat them so terribly, but I want to see them work together.

A Big Confrontation Is Coming For Timothy And Rick

We only got two moments between the two, but I am full-steam ahead on an impending confrontation between Rick and Timothy.

We still don’t know what the heck Rick does, but it's clearly enough for him to have shelled out the money to come to this resort. Meanwhile, Timothy is already going through some kind of tricky thing at work, indicated by the call about a Wall Street Journal story. So tensions are running high.

So while I’m not sure how it will go down between these two, it feels like there’s going to be a lead-up to them getting into a fight, presumably started by Rick flicking a cigarette into the other man's face.

Belinda ISN’T Going To Die

I know the premiere's cold open alluded to it, but I stand by the idea that Belinda isn’t going to die in Season 3, and that definitely wasn't her body.

When we all found out Natasha Rothwell would return for Season 3 of the show, we were eager to see what would happen. It was a shame what happened to Jennifer Coolidge’s character in Season 2, but I think all of us really knew deep down she might not last long with how volatile she could be.

Belinda, on the other hand, is the most peaceful person out there and legitimately would not hurt a fly. We see that she’s excited to be at the Thailand White Lotus the moment she arrives. I really don’t think they would bring her back just to kill her off this season, especially when we just met her son, Zion, and it was hinted at but not confirmed.

Maybe I’m just being over-optimistic and thinking that somehow everything will work out with her coming back, but I really don’t think she’ll die.

But One Of The Women On The Girls' Trip Is Doomed

That’s my final bet. I don’t just think the girls' trip will fall apart – I think it’ll end in death.

I think pointing to Laurie would be an easy guess since it’s clear that she’s already a little unstable with how she feels around her friends. What I think might happen is that Jaclyn or Kate is going to snap and somehow get a gun, and one way or another, one of them is going to die.

But as we heard in the beginning, there were multiple gunshots, so maybe it’s not them pulling the trigger – it could be someone else entirely. Perhaps there’s a hitman out there or another guest that just snaps – Rick, maybe? Since we have no clue who he is? I don’t know, but I think one way or another, one of these women is going to bite the dust.

Critics have been calling The White Lotus Season 3 unique in many ways, and already, given its exotic location, I’m eager to see where it goes. I’m not sure how the story is going to play out, but I am here for the drama and the murder mystery. We’re back to White Lotus Sundays!

Who’s ready to get weird in Thailand? One of the most anticipated series on the 2025 TV schedule is upon us, in Mike White’s long-awaited third season of The White Lotus. After Season 2 ended in the shocking death of Jennifer Coolidge’s Tanya McQuoid, we’ll see a (mostly) new cast of eccentric characters check in to the titular resort when the series premieres February 16. White got fans hyped with promises of a “longer, bigger, crazier” season, and while critics are praising Season 3, many are saying it starts a bit slow and is less comedic than its predecessors.

In addition to an impressive new cast that includes Harry Potter alum Jason Isaacs, Carrie Coon, Walton Goggins, Michelle Monaghan and Patrick Schwarzenegger, to name a few, Season 1 fan favorite Natasha Rothwell is back, as her character Belinda is in Thailand as part of the resort’s exchange program. The trailer looks as unhinged as ever, and Emma Kiely of Collider confirms Season 3 is “irresistibly entertaining,” rating it a 7 out of 10 and writing:

Only the first six of the eight-episode season were released to critics, so any big reveals or twists remain under wraps. Still, Alison Herman of Variety agrees that it takes time for the pieces to come together in Season 3, and even for Mike White to reveal all the pieces the characters are playing with. However, once it gets going, the newest offering is White’s most ambitious. Herman writes:

Nick Levine of NME, meanwhile, declares The White Lotus television’s most essential destination, giving it a 4-out-of-5-star rating. The pacing issues that slightly blemish the first two episodes are a result of introducing so many characters, Levine points out, and were also present in the first two highly regarded seasons (which can be streamed with a Max subscription). The review continues:

Sultan of Slant feels that after the Season 3 premiere kicks off with its signature murder and then flashes back to “One Week Earlier,” the characters are content to simply stew in their established misery. The cast is great, though, and the first six episodes still pack a punch, the critic says. Sultan gives it 2.5 out of 4 stars, writing:

Belen Edwards of Mashable says The White Lotus is still “a pressure cooker of social tensions and personal crises,” with fantastic performances from top to bottom. Overall, however, Season 3 attempts to do too much, threatening to spiral into bloat. The review continues:

Fans of the Mike White series will have to watch for themselves to see if the darker, slower and decidedly less funny direction is for them. There is a seemingly never-ending list of great options to binge on Netflix, and while I do love to actually make a trip to the theater, there’s no denying the convenience of streaming. After hearing some positive things about His Three Daughters — an offering on Netflix’s 2024 schedule — I decided to check it out, despite knowing the subject matter might hit a little close to home. It’s now been weeks since I watched the movie about three sisters navigating their father’s final days, and I still cannot shake how true it felt to my family’s own experiences with end-of-life care.

His Three Daughters stars Carrie Coon, Natasha Lyonne and Elizabeth Olsen as estranged sisters who come together at their father’s home, where Rachel (Lyonne) has been living with and caring for their sick father. Old wounds and a complicated family dynamic are quickly revealed as they all deal with his impending death in their own ways. The story really stuck with me, and here are a few reasons it felt so real.

I Saw Parts Of Myself And My Family In Each Of The Three Sisters

First, I want to say that I would never pretend to be an expert on the topic of hospice or caretaking. I can only speak to my limited experience, which includes my husband and I providing end-of-life care for a loved one a few years ago and seeing other members of my family serve as long-term caregivers. I know every family’s experience is different, everybody handles grief differently, and every family has its own drama to contend with. All of those individualities are exactly why I was not prepared to see so much of myself and my family in the very specific characters of His Three Daughters (which can be streamed with a Netflix subscription).

I recognized Rachel’s discomfort with having Katie (Carrie Coon) and Christina (Elizabeth Olsen) in the house while simultaneously being relieved to finally have some help. I saw Katie’s gratitude for Rachel caring for their dad present itself as judgment and jealousy. Christina’s guilt was ever-present, whether that was over not having been around to help Rachel or guilt that to be with her father meant she wasn’t home taking care of her own kids.

More than their overall personalities, there were a lot of small moments and anxieties that struck a familiar chord with me: someone obsessing over paperwork, someone needing validation, decisions over grocery shopping, documenting breathing changes and fretting over who — if anyone — was in the room with the person receiving the care. This may have been a fictional family, but it felt all too real to me.

The Feelings Of Isolation Were Beautifully Portrayed

One thing that struck me right off the bat was Katie’s tendency to talk at people instead of to them. I thought this would bother me, but I came to understand it as her way of coping. She was often giving monologues, not noticing or caring if her audience was paying attention, because she was just trying to process the situation for herself. It was very "main character syndrome," but also pretty understandable given that her dad was dying. Rachel and Christina had their own ways of showing how isolated they felt.

The camera work also helped to drive home the feeling that they were going through this along, even when surrounded by each other. So many of the conversations between the women showed just one of them, shots lingering on their faces rather than switching to capture her sister’s response.

The Sisters’ Interactions With The Hospice Nurse Were Some Of The Most Relatable Moments

I think I was most amused by the sisters’ interactions with the hospice workers, a profession which filmmaker Azazel Jacobs paid tribute to by naming one character “Angel.” It’s because those moments were so relatable that I was able to find some humor there.

In addition to Katie and Christina obsessing over their advocates’ names being Angel (“That’s quite a name, considering what you do.”) and Mirabella (“I’m sorry, it’s just so weird that’s her name. I keep picturing my daughter when you mention her.”), some of the conversations they had with Angel felt like someone had secretly recorded that time in my life and was playing back my words coming from the characters’ mouths.

I remember us being desperate for any morsel of information, hanging on every word of our very patient hospice nurse. So it was funny to me, in a way, to see the women doing the same thing, asking the same questions and prying for information, only to then question the nurse's expertise or try to dispel what was said. Katie continuously thought their advocate was speaking in code, telling Christina at one point:

Every family has that cynic, right? I recall being upset by that person in my family, but that was their filter on the situation, just like that was Katie’s very specific view. Again, I was just struck by the thought that something that felt so unique to me could actually have been more universal than I realized.

The Ending Threw Me For A Loop — But Only For A Minute

I won’t go too far into the specifics of a certain twist so as to avoid spoiler territory, but there was a scene toward the end that caught me off guard because it lacked the realism that I’d felt from the rest of the movie. I was pretty quick to figure out what was going on, and everything was revealed fairly quickly. I've been back and forth about what I think about it, and I've landed on being glad it happened like it did. It gave a sense of closure to the audience, even if the same can't be said for Rachel, Katie and Christina.

I can only speak for my own experience with end-of-life care, and I’m certain that not everybody will have the same takeaway from this film, but I found His Three Daughters to be incredibly relatable. It’s remained with me to the point that even weeks after watching it, there’s a part of me that is remembering little moments I’d forgotten about. A little time and distance (from both my family’s experiences and the 2024 movie’s release) have also allowed me to see some of those moments from a different perspective.

The streaming wars are showing no signs of slowing down, with the various services offering a variety of new and exciting content. One new film that might end up being one of the best Netflix movies out there is Azazel Jacobs' His Three Daughters, which is streaming now for those with a Netflix subscription. I recently streamed the flick, and have to talk about the family dynamics, especially as we slowly get closer to The Holidays.

His Three Daughters focuses on (you guessed it) three sisters, adult women who are forced to cohabitate as their father is in hospice care. Director Azazel Jacobs put tributes to hospice nurses in the film, but other than that its largely about the three women's relationships with each other. And I loved how realistic it felt, especially in the way that family occasions tend to bring out honesty among relatives... for better or worse. 

I personally tuned into His Three Daughters largely because of its trio of leading actresses, including The Gilded Age icon Carrie Coon and Wanda Maximoff herself, MCU fan favorite Elizabeth Olsen. From the start of the movie, it's clear just how three different each of the characters are. Olsen's Christina is overly positive but missing her young daughter, Coon's Katie is trying to take control while admonishing Lyonne's Rachel, who is struggling with the invasion of her home. 

While the subject matter is obviously quite emotional since they're comparing for their father's death, in some ways it feels like it could set during any family event or holiday. The three sisters are brought together, and once cohabitating tensions naturally rise.

The titular characters of His Three Daughters are so specific and vastly different from each other, so it makes sense that they might have a unique set of issues with each other. Add in the stress of their father's end of life care, and all of the walls come down for a moving look at this particular family's dynamic. 

The sisters didn't have soap opera-like drama with each other, but instead they're just very different people who can sometimes struggle to be around each other. This is no doubt relatable for plenty of siblings out there. But just because they can get on each other's nerves doesn't mean they don't love each other.

Aside from all the sibling dynamics, the story about a family coping through end of life care is also something that is sure to touch Netflix subscribers who have dealt with this in the real world. Azazel Jacobs' direction and writing doesn't try to lean on melodrama here, but instead offers a realistic and touching portrayal. With a fascinating use of color and perfect pacing, His Three Daughters builds to an emotional crescendo that's sure to elicit strong feelings.

Among the latest of the 2024 movies is His Three Daughters, which brings together a trio of talents with Elizabeth Olsen, Natasha Lyonne and Carrie Coon playing sisters. Just ahead of the movie’s premiere at Toronto International Film Festival and its current place in select theaters, CinemaBlend spoke to the three actresses about their prior experiences as theater actors.

I seriously could have seriously listened to these ladies swap stories for hours! A clip of our conversation is above. I loved what each of them had to say about how their time in theater has changed the way they have approached their movie and TV careers over the years. Let’s start with Elizabeth Olsen’s answer:

Elizabeth Olsen is undoubtedly most known for playing Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch in the MCU, which she has recently talked bluntly about. Before all that, she had one of her earliest roles in a New York production, as she spoke to in our interview. At the time, she recalls being very nervous and stressed out about performing live, but once she broke down what she needed to do, everything clicked in. Natasha Lyonne, who Olsen recently said “needs no advice” in her upcoming MCU debut, also shared her own memorable theater experience, saying this:

Natasha Lyonne recalled doing the off-Broadway production back in 2010 that helped her unlock a new aspect of what it’s like to really be an actor that she had never understood prior. It’s pretty wild when you think about the story considering Lyonne’s credits go back to the ‘80s when she was a child actor. As she spoke to, being on stage with Ethan Hawke made for a core memory for her that she takes with her today. As she continued:

Then there’s Carrie Coon, who recently was part of the cast of Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, who has done a ton of theater over the years. Here’s what she had to add to the conversation:

It’s so lovely to see these three women talk about the shared moments that made them think about acting in a new way and how it happened on stage for each of them. It’s a perfect conversation for them to have for His Three Daughters, because the drama really feels like a play in a lot of ways as their characters navigate taking care of their father, who is in hospice.

The Ghostbusters are back…again. Following a successful return in Ghostbusters: Afterlife the classic is team is here alongside the new generation in a sequel that, based on the critical response, will probably work for anybody who is simply dying for more Ghostbusters movies, but is otherwise weak where it counts. 

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire sees the story pick up from the Ghostbusters: Afterlife ending, with the family played by McKenna Grace, Finn Wolfhard, Carrie Coon, and former teacher and not-quite-stepdad Paul Rudd, as the new professional Ghostbusters in New York City. With support from Dan Aykroyd’s Ray and Ernie Hudson’s Winston, the team has a new spiritual threat to deal with when a mystical orb of unknown origin comes into their possession. 

Critical response is not being kind to Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire overall, making it clear this is not the best movie in the franchise. Having said that our own Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire review thinks that the good outweighs the bad, with the new movie a solid balance between the first two movies and the new direction of the last one...

Most would agree that the movie has bright spots here and there, but the things that work in the movie aren’t given enough time to shine thanks to a jumbled script. Fresh Fiction says the movie suffers due to a plot that moves in fits and starts, saying…

If there was a major issue with Ghostbusters: Afterlife, it was the way the movie seemed more homage to the franchise than an actual entry in it. Screen Daily feels that Frozen Empire is much in this same vein, with the new movie focusing on referencing the previous ones, rather than trying to have an identity of its own…

Deadline holds a similar opinion. It points out that what Frozen Empire does have that’s new, some interesting stories from the new characters introduced in Afterlife, is pretty good. The problem is that everything else gets in the way of all that, preventing the good stuff from becoming a bigger part of the story…

This is not to say all critics feel that the bad entirely outweighs the good.  iO9 admits that the movie has a whole host of issues on the story side, but argues that Frozen Empire still has the feeling of being a Ghostbusters movie, such that fans will likely be happy with it… 

In the end, it seems pretty clear that Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire has some significant storytelling problems, the question for its potential audience will be whether those issues are significant enough to sink the entire film, or if there might be enough Ghostbusters fun in there to make it a fun good time. Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire's release date is this Friday.

As one of the more unexpectedly popular and critically acclaimed original series in HBO’s arsenal, The White Lotus Season 3 is in the works and ready to follow up on the award-winning second outing (and its shocking finale) with another change in location. This time around, viewers will get to watch spoiled rich folks dealing with spoiled rich problems in Thailand, with a slew of new cast members set to capture our attention, as well as a returning fave.

Which Stars Are Returning From Past Seasons?

Natasha Rothwell

Though the Emmy-winning Jennifer Coolidge was the main source of connective tissues between the first and second seasons, her character Tanya wound up suffering one of 2022’s most shocking TV deaths, leaving the door open for another familiar face. Indeed, Season 1 star Natasha Rothwell, recently seen in Wonka, is reprising the role of caring masseuse Belinda in Season 3. Having earned a Supporting Actress Emmy nomination the first time around, Rothwell will likely achieve similar accolades with the next chapter in Belinda’s story.

At this time, Rothwell is the only returning White Lotus star set for year three, but there are plenty of others we'd love to see come back.

Which Stars Are New For Season 3?

Carrie Coon

The Leftovers and Gone Girl vet Carrie Coon is adept at jumping from prestige cable dramas such as The Gilded Age to serious true crime films like Boston Strangler to blockbuster popcorn projects such as the upcoming Ghostbusters; Frozen Empire. No matter who she ends up playing in The White Lotus, the character will be one of the most captivating to watch.

Patrick Schwarzenegger

Fresh off his shocking turn as Golden Boy in Prime Video’s Gen V, which itself followed turns in The Terminal List and The Staircase, Patrick Schwarzenegger already has more TV starring roles than his famous father Arnold Schwarzenegger, and we can only hope that the Fubar star finds his way to Thailand for a guest spot. He’ll next pop up on the small screen in Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk’s American Sports Story, where he’ll portray former NFL quarterback Tim Tebow.

Walton Goggins

An actor whose filmography has exploded in recent years thanks to projects such as The Righteous Gemstones, I’m a Virgo, George & Tammy, The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey and Invincible — not to mention his return to Justified’s universe and the film The Uninvited. He’ll very likely bring a heavy dose of southern fried menace to The White Lotus, though fans can also expect to see him popping up in the pro wrestling biopic Queen of the Ring and Prime Video’s upcoming video game adaptation Fallout.

Leslie Bibb

Leslie Bibb’s career has been far more TV-centric in recent years, thanks to turns on superhero shows such as Jupiter’s Legacy and What If…?, as well as comedies such as Love Life and God’s Favorite Idiot, and she’s also set to star in the ensemble drama Palm Royale opposite Laura Dern, Kristen Wiig and Allison Janney. Now it’s just about wondering which kind of character Bibb will be playing for the HBO dramedy.

Parker Posey

Having made a career out of bringing unique personalities to TV and films, Parker Posey could (and hopefully will) be a complete wild card in The White Lotus’ universe. In the past couple of years, she went from The Staircase and Tales of the Walking Dead to Beau Is Afraid and Thelma, with the horror comedy The Parenting (co-starring Brian Cox and Edie Falco) coming in 2024.

Jason Isaacs

With Star Trek fans hoping for his return in the final season of Discovery, Jason Isaacs had a big 2023 for TV, co-starring in The Great, The Crowded Room and Archie (not to mention playing Alfred in the narrative podcast The Riddler: Secrets in the Dark). The actor has a whopping four films in post-production, with another three or four on the way to production, so hopefully that doesn’t mean he’s due for a short stint as a victim, and that his schedule allows for Isaacs’ character to stick around the whole season.

Michelle Monaghan

Since starring in True Detective back in 2014, Michelle Monaghan has stuck with streaming services for her starring TV roles, from The Path to Messiah to Echoes, but she’ll be returning to HBO for The White Lotus’ anticipated third season. Having co-starred in the 2023 comedy The Family Plan, the actress will be taking the takes up a notch with her role in the upcoming A24 movie MaXXXine.

Miloš Biković

Serbian and Russian actor Miloš Biković is best known across the globe for his work in the popular comedy Serf and its 2024 sequel Serf 2. He’ll be making his U.S. TV debut with The White Lotus, though his role is currently unknown.

Morgana O’Reilly

Arguably best known for her years as Naomi Canning on the long-running soap Neighbours — or to horror fans for her starring role in 2014’s fave Housebound — New Zealand actress Morgana O’Reilly is adept with comedy, drama, romance and more on the small screen, so the multi-genre approach at the heart of The White Lotus will likely be second nature. 

Lek Patravadi

An award-winning Thai actress whose influential career started back in 1973 — in a role that landed that first award — Lek Patravadi will bring her internationally renowned performance art talents to HBO’s The White Lotus, though it’s unknown what role she’ll be playing. Considering she’s known in Thailand for decades of work across film, TV, and the stage, Mike White hopefully has big plans for Patravadi.  

Shalini Peiris

Sri Lankan-born actress Shalini Peiris is more known for her UK acting, such as her role in the slapstick kids comedy The Danny & Mick Show, but also crossed over to U.S. TV in a big way in 2023 with the Syfy series The Ark (available to stream with a Peacock subscription). 

Christian Friedel

German actor Christian Friedel recently starred in one of the buzziest dramas of awards season, Jonathan Glazer’s The Zone of Interest, and he was also seen on the big screen in 2023 for the drama 15 Years. He’s no stranger to TV, though, having co-starred in Netflix’s 2018 limited series Perfume and the Golden ‘20s drama Babylon Berlin, which concluded in 2022.

Dom Hetrakul

One of several Thai talents joining the cast of The White Lotus, Dom Hetrakul comes from quite a noteworthy family, as they’re in charge of Thailand’s second-most popular newspaper, Bangkok’s Daily News. The majority of his acting work has come in Thai projects, and with more TV shows than films, so he should be right at home amidst the fancy settings in the HBO dramedy.

Sarah Catherine Hook

With The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It as her main claim to fame on the big screen, Sarah Catherine Hook appeared in shows such as Law & Order: SVU, NOS4A2 and Monsterland before landing her biggest break co-leading the cast of Netflix’s First Kill, though the vampire drama was unfortunately cancelled after a single season.

Sam Nivola

Most recently seen opposite Bradley Cooper in 2024 Oscar nominee Maestro and opposite Anne Hathaway and Thomasin McKenzie in the mystery thriller Eileen, Sam Nivola is a rising star and will no doubt blow up even bigger once he arrives in The White Lotus’ third season. 

Aimee Lou Wood

British stage actress Aimee Lou Wood broke out in a big way on TV as the similarly named one-time Untouchables member Aimee Gibbs in Netflix’s Sex Education, which wrapped in September 2023 after four seasons. In that time, she also co-starred with Benedict Cumberbatch in The Electrical Life of Louis Wain, and opposite Bill Nighy in Living. She’s got three other TV projects on the way outside of The White Lotus: the PBS miniseries Alice & Jack, the Netflix miniseries Toxic Town and the Brit-com Daddy Issues. 

Francesca Corney

Up-and-coming actress Francesca Corney is a native of Bangkok, Thailand, and got her break in the 2022 Netflix movie Fistful of Vengeance, following that up with a recurring role in Apple TV+’s The Buccaneers, based on Edith Wharton’s unfinished novel of the same name. 

Nicholas Duvernay

After a few years of smaller roles in projects such as Tyler Perry’s Assisted Living, Nicholas Duvernay made a broadcast splash in 2022 with minor parts in The Rookie, S.W.A.T., Magnum P.I. and more, and he landed even larger roles in Peacock’s Bel-Air and the Netflix movie Purple Hearts.

Arnas Fedaravičius

Possibly the one White Lotus Season 3 cast member with a Lithuanian background, actor Arnas Fedaravičius appeared in several productions around the globe before landing a starring role in the acclaimed historical drama The Last Kingdom, which concluded in 2023 with the feature film The Last Kingdom: Seven Kings Must Die. He also co-starred in the first season of Prime Video’s The Wheel of Time.

Rejoice, Big Hat Hive! The Gilded Age has officially been picked up for Season 3 by HBO, and everyone who loves the richy-and-bitchy series is celebrating the news, including The Gilded Age cast. 

After a lot of uncertainty over the renewal status of the period drama from Downton Abbey creator Julian Fellowes, that sweet Season 3 renewal was announced on Thursday, December 21 as an early Christmas gift to us all. To mark the occasion, the show's official Instagram page posted a video of leading lady Bertha Russell (played by Carrie Coon) being applauded at the opera, with the caption:

The clip comes from the Season 2 finale, when Bertha and the new-money set unveil the grand, new Metropolitan Opera house to New York's high society, much to the chagrin of Mrs. Astor (Donna Murphy) and the rest of the old guard. 

After the official announcement was made, many of the show's actors took to social media to whoop it up.

Actress Louisa Jacobson — who plays Marian Brooks in the drama series and who you may also know as one of Meryl Streep's talented daughters — posted an Instagram video alongside two of her co-stars, Harry Richardson (who plays Bertha's son Larry Russell) and Ben Ahlers (who plays Jack Trotter, footman of the Van Rhijn household).

The performers can be seen posing in front of a beautiful sunset and blowing kisses to the camera, with Jacobson captioning the clip:

Denée Benton, who plays ambitious writer and Marian's close confidante Peggy Scott, also posted an Instagram video in celebration, this one showcasing a group of the actors and background performers from this season's Alabama-based storyline getting down in a big group dance:

And everyone's favorite train daddy, George Russell portrayer Morgan Spector, also joined in on the social-media fun, posting clips from that big, firework-filled Fourth of July celebration in Season 2:

Whether The Gilded Age Season 3 will be on the 2024 TV schedule remains to be seen— the show involves a hefty amount of production and costuming design and wait time between the first (which ended on March 21, 2022) and second seasons (which began on October 29 on the 2023 TV schedule) was well over a year and a half. 

Given that the Season 2 finale only just aired on Sunday, December 17, it's more likely that the title will be coming back in 2025, but we can still cross our fingers! In the meantime, you can catch up on all things The Gilded Age with a Max subscription.

Over the years, Hulu has put out great high-concept comedies like Palm Springs and Academy Award-winning dramas like Nomadland, and dozens of other originals in just about every genre imaginable. During that same time, the streaming platform has also put out some great true crime stories, including its most recent release: Boston Strangler.

Matt Ruskin’s thriller about one of the most notorious serial killers in the American Northeast is new on Hulu, bringing with it an incredible saga about the two female reporters who pushed through bureaucracy and sexism to get to the bottom of the story. If you have watched the movie, or are planning to, there’s a chance you’ll want to know where you’ve seen the actors from the Boston Strangler cast, including its two leads: Keira Knightley and Carrie Coon. 

Keira Knightley (Loretta McLaughlin)

Leading the Boston Strangler cast is Keira Knightley, who takes on the role of Boston Record American reporter Loretta McLaughlin, the journalist who initially broke the story about the serial killer.

Knightley, a two-time Academy Award nominee (Pride & Prejudice, The Imitation Game), has done a little bit of everything throughout her long career, including massive blockbuster franchises like the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, as well as iconic romantic comedies like Love Actually. Prior to Boston Strangler, Knightley’s most recent theatrical effort was the 2021 black comedy, Silent Night.

Carrie Coon (Jean Cole)

Carrie Coon plays a major role in the events with her portrayal of Jean Cole, an investigative reporter at the Boston Record American who was instrumental in the serial killer’s coverage.

The list of Coon’s best movies and TV shows could also be considered a list of some of the best releases in recent memory, with films like Gone Girl, Avengers: Infinity War, and another all-time great journalism story: The Post. She has also been a staple on the small screen, with shows like The Leftovers, Fargo, and most recently, The Gilded Age. 

Chris Cooper (Jack MacLaine)

A newspaper movie wouldn’t be a newspaper movie without a dogged editor. Luckily, Boston Strangler doesn’t have that problem, as Academy Award winner (Adaptation) Chris Cooper has a major role as Jack MacLaine.

Throughout his historic career, Cooper has appeared in countless movies, some of which could be considered the best of the past few decades. This includes unforgettable performances in the likes of American Beauty, October Sky, Capote, and another all-time great Boston movie, The Town. Cooper has even popped up in the Spider-Man franchise, having played Norman Osborn in 2014’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2. 

Alessandro Nivola (Detective Conley)

Alessandro Nivola shows up as Detective Conley, an investigator with the Boston Police Department looking into the murders.

Over the years, Nivola has appeared in movies like Selma, American Hustle, The Many Saints of Newark, and most recently, Amsterdam. Fans of the Jurassic Park/Jurassic World movies will also certainly recognize Nivola from his portrayal of Billy Brennan in Jurassic Park III.

Taking on the role of Boston Police Commissioner Edmund McNamara is Bill Camp, who brings years of experience to the cast.

Arguably one of the most talented character actors in Hollywood today, Camp has made a career out of giving commanding, and unique performances in all kinds of movies, shows, and stage productions. Fans of the Netflix drama series, The Queen’s Gambit will surely recognize Camp from his portrayal of Mr. Shaibel, as will those who watched The Outsider, which saw Camp in one of the show’s biggest roles. His more recent film contributions include Joker, News of the World, Passing, and Dark Waters. 

David Dastmalchian (Albert DeSalvo)

David Dastmalchian shows up as Albert DeSalvo, the man long believed to be the titular serial killer, though he has only been connected to one of the 13 victims in the decades since the attacks first began.

Dastmalchian, who made his film debut in The Dark Knight, has gone on to have a rather successful career, especially the past few years. With multiple roles in the Ant-Man movies, a sizable performance in Dune, and an unforgettable turn as Polka-Dot Man in The Suicide Squad, he’s been just about everywhere as of late. Dastmalchian is also set to be one of the many members of the Oppenhemier cast when Christopher Nolan’s next movie premieres this summer.

Ryan Winkles (Daniel Marsh)

Ryan Winkles provides an eerie performance with his portrayal of Daniel Marsh, one of the men suspected of being the killer.

Boston Strangler is Winkles first major feature film, as his previous on-screen appearances include various short films and the 2016 TV miniseries, The Time Traveling Bong. However, he has performed extensively on the stage throughout his career. 

Greg Vrotsos (George Nassar)

Greg Vrotsos appears in the film as George Nassar, Albert DeSalvo’s cellmate who is instrumental in the alleged killer’s confession.

Though he has appeared in movies like Empire State and Horrible Bosses 2 throughout his career, Vrotsos has predominantly been a TV actor, having major roles on shows like Orange is the New Black, the 2017 Twin Peaks revival series, and Mayans M.C., to name only a few. 

Morgan Spector (James McLaughlin)

Morgan Spector takes on the role of James McLaughlin, Keira Knightley’s on-screen husband, appearing in some of the movie’s more intense scenes.

Throughout his career, Spector has appeared on several notable TV shows, including Law & Order: Criminal Intent, Boardwalk Empire, Orange is the New Black, and Homeland. More recently, he has landed major roles on David Simon’s 2020 miniseries, The Plot Against America, as well as The Gilded Age, in which he plays Boston Strangler co-star Carrie Coon’s on-screen husband. 

Robert John Burke (Eddie Holland)

And then there is Robert John Burke, who portrays Boston Record American Managing Editor Eddie Holland, a figure who is initially hesitant to pursue the series of articles.

Known for his portrayal of Ed Tucker on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, as well as his turn as Mickey Gavin on Rescue Me, Burke has been a prolific TV actor throughout his career, also landing roles on shows like Oz, Gossip Girl, Person of Interest, and countless others. His previous film work includes BlacKkKlansman, Tombstone, RoboCop 3 (he took on the role of the titular cyborg crimefighter), and most recently, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

Over the years, journalism movies like All the President’s Men, Spotlight, and Zodiac have taken audiences out of their seats and into the hectic world of a newsroom at deadline, allowing them to see how the day’s biggest stories turn into some of history’s biggest moments. And with his latest directorial effort, Boston Strangler, writer/director Matt Ruskin makes a worthy addition to the list of best journalism movies, with his riveting true crime story about the duo of female reporters, played by Keira Knightley and The Gilded Age’s Carrie Coon, who helped break the ‘60s murder case. Based on the work of Record American investigative reporters Loretta McLaughlin (Knightley) and Jean Cole (Coon), the upcoming release from 20th Century Studios follows the pair of newshounds as they do what their superiors at the Boston-based paper, as well as police and politicians, refuse to do: ask the difficult questions about a string of murders all committed in the same way with very similar victims.

The story of the killings have been at the center of multiple movies in the past, including 1968’s Boston Strangler starring Tony Curtis as Albert DeSalvo, the man connected to at least one of the 13 murders committed by the serial killer, and Henry Fonda as John S. Bottomly, the Boston detective investigating the case. But with his version, Matt Ruskin, a Boston native, took a very different approach to the story and the manner in which it was told.

During an interview with CinemaBlend tied to the Boston Strangler trailer debut, Ruskin elaborated on what led to him making the 2023 movie: 

Soon after determining he wanted to take a different approach with Boston Strangler, the Crown Heights director found the perfect character: Loretta McLaughlin, the reporter who not only helped break the story, but also gave the Boston Strangler his name. Through research, not only did Ruskin learn more about McLaughlin, he also discovered that he knew the granddaughter of her fellow reporter, Jean Cole.  

Boston Strangler, which also stars Academy Award winner Chris Cooper, Alessandro Nivola, David Dastmalchian, Bill Camp, and Morgan Spector, is set to premiere Friday, March 17, 2023, exclusively on Hulu. For the past couple of weeks, Julian Fellowes’ The Gilded Age has seemed to take its place among the best shows on HBO Max. With a debut weighing in as the best Monday night premiere since Chernobyl, good news seems to be cropping up quite often for this upstart drama. And it’s about to get better, as a Season 2 renewal has been announced, prompting perfectly poised responses from Cynthia Nixon, Carrie Coon, and others from the cast. 

HBO revealed that the series will be returning, only three episodes into the first season’s nine-installment run. In honor of the big news, and in addition to the cast reactions mentioned, the network sent out the following invitation to the fledgling show’s fan base. This is a most welcome invitation, indeed; especially considering the development hell The Gilded Age had been stuck in for some time. Originally intended as an NBC series, the entire endeavor eventually found itself in the HBO family of programs. Which, more than likely, helped the series land And Just Like That's Cynthia Nixon as the cheerful, but reserved Aunt Ada Brook. Her reservations flew out the window for this occasion, however, as Ms. Nixon celebrated with the perfect GIF: 

What would a Julian Fellowes series be without a little bit of a class struggle? In the case of this new American history-based playing field, old money vs. new money is one of the central conflicts, with The Leftover’s Carrie Coon representing the latter half of the equation. The role of Bertha Russell has seen this HBO alum taking on competitors of all stripes, and her response to the joyous news included its own video, complete with The Gregson-Williams Brothers’ theme tune for the series: 

Through the text of her message above, it seems that not only will Bertha still be fighting it out for her place in society, but so will her husband. So if you were worried that George Russell, played by Morgan Spector, might be contemplating some rash decisions in light of the third episode's shocking ending, you can rest easy for now. Especially since Mr. Spector himself took a moment to gleefully throw his two cents into the celebration: 

Last, but not least, is the reaction of Ms. Louisa Jacobson. As The Gilded Age’s Marian Brook, we’ve followed her from abject poverty in Doylestown to a massive upgrade in standing through living with her two aunts. It would seem that her journey has just begun, especially with another season on the way, and Jacobson certainly seems to be feeling it. Taking to her own Instagram account, she sent out the following message of happiness:

Season 2 of The Gilded Age could open the door to a lot of fantastic possibilities. Perhaps Courteney Cox can finally play “posh” as she recently admitted to desiring a role on Downton Abbey. The history of Penn Station will definitely be a part of the proceedings, as that story is far from over and will provide plenty of twists. And maybe, just maybe, we can start to see the seeds of a crossover between Julian Fellowes’ two dramas planted into the ground.

Yesterday, the world lost another great talent in writer/director/producer Ivan Reitman who passed away at the age of 75. Reitman was best known for directing the first two Ghostbusters movies, and producing the more recent entries of the franchise. But Reitman has been a huge part of Hollywood for decades, and so a lot of people are remembering Reitman, not just those from inside the Ghostbusters franchise.

Ernie Hudson, who appeared in all the Ghostbusters movies, responded to the news that Ivan Reitman had passed away by sending his condolences to the family of the lost man, including his son, writer/director Jason Reitman, who recently worked with his father on Ghostbusters: Afterlife.  

Fellow Ghostbuster Dan Aykroyd also made a statement to Deadline where he said he was heartbroken at the death of Reitman and you can feel that in the statement.

Ivan Reitman produced the most recent Ghostbusters film, which was directed by his son Jason. A couple of the key cast members who joined the Ghostbusters franchise with the newest movie also shared their thoughts. Carrie Coon, who played the daughter of Harold Ramis’ iconic Ghostbusters character  said it was an “honor” to work with Reitman and to become part of the film series loved by so many.

While Carrie Coon had some powerful things to say about Ivan Reitman, co-star Mckenna Grace had none. She simply posted a picture of herself and Reitman working together on the set of Ghostbusters: Afterlife, and added a heart. No words were needed here. 

Love also came to Jason Reitman from Paul Feig, director of the Ghostbusters spinoff project Answer the Call. While that particular film in the franchise has always struggled, Reitman was apparently always supportive of it and those that made it.  

While Ivan Reitman’s name will be synonymous with Ghostbusters forever, he made many more memorable movies. He directed Meatballs, Stripes, Dave, Kindergarten Cop and Twins. He also had a profound impact on the careers of many other filmmakers. Joker director Todd Philips wrote a lengthy Instagram post about the influence that Reitman had on his career. Ivan Reitman produced Philips' earliest features, but also did a lot more…

Ivan Reitman clearly made a mark in Hollywood that will be remembered forever. He made great movies that will stand the test of time but he also inspired a generation of filmmakers that have already gone on to make their own mark. He will not soon be forgotten.

Years after setting his sights on post-Edwardian England and escapades of the Crawley family with the landmark series Downton Abbey, Julian Fellowes is now doing the same with The Gilded Age, the new HBO period drama set in the lavish world that was New York City in the late 19th Century. With a cast of characters played by the lauded likes of Christine Baranski, Cynthia Nixon, Carrie Coon, and a dozen or so other actors, the show about the clashing of cultures of “Old Money” versus “New Money” appears to be just as dramatic, and fabulous, as anything that has come before it.

But, after watching the first episode of the sumptuous period drama there’s a good chance you’re wondering where you’ve seen The Gilded Age cast before. There are a lot of names to go through, including stars of some of the best HBO shows, so let’s get started.

Christine Baranski (Agnes van Rhijn)

Christine Baranski takes on the role of Agnes van Rhijn, a New York City elite who is stubborn as she is vengeful. The Primetime Emmy Award winner (Cybil) is perhaps one of the most recognizable faces on television thanks to shows like Frasier, The Good Wife, and The Good Fight, but that’s not all. Baranski has also given tremendous performances in movies ranging from The Birdcage to Chicago, as well as the uber-successful Mamma Mia! franchise. And, even if you haven’t seen her on the screen, chances are you’ve heard Baranski’s voice from time to time as she has appeared on animated shows like Family Guy, BoJack Horseman, and The Simpsons.

Cynthia Nixon (Ada Brook)

Taking on the role of Ada Brook, Agnes’ unmarried sister, on The Gilded Age, is Cynthia Nixon, who is no stranger to longtime fans of HBO. Best known for her portrayal of Miranda Hobbes on the groundbreaking comedy series Sex and the City, Nixon has gone on to play her several more times in the two movie adaptations and the revival series, And Just Like That. Outside of that, Nixon has appeared on shows like Alpha House and The Big C, as well as in movies like The Only Living Boy in New York, A Quiet Passion, and The Pelican Brief, to name only a few.

Carrie Coon (Bertha Russell)

Carrie Coon plays Bertha Russell on The Gilded Age, a woman who has recently come into money and fires back at the old way of doing things. Over the years, Coon has appeared in movies and TV shows like Gone Girl, The Leftovers, and even Avengers: Infinity War, giving commanding performances in each of those. In 2021, she even appeared in the long-awaited Ghostbusters: Afterlife. She’ll next appear in the upcoming drama Boston Strangler.

Morgan Spector (George Russell)

Taking on the role of George Russell, the robber baron and cut-throat businessman husband of Bertha, is actor Morgan Spector on The Gilded Age. Throughout his career, which goes back more than a decade, Spector has appeared on shows like The Plot Against America, Homeland, and Boardwalk Empire, on which he portrayed Frank Capone. Then there are movies like Christine, The Last Airbender, and Permission. Spector’s stage performances include A View from the Bridge, Harvey, and Machinal.

Denée Benton (Peggy Scott)

Denée Benton portrays Peggy Scott, an ambitious New York writer seeking a fresh start in The Gilded Age. Although she has appeared on the Lifetime drama series UnREAL and in movies like Our Friend, Benton is best known for her stage work, which includes a couple of the biggest productions of the past decade. She got her start in the U.S. national tour and West End residency of The Book of Mormon, which she later followed up with the 2018 Broadway production of Hamilton, in which she portrayed Eliza Hamilton.

Louisa Jacobson (Marian Brook)

Taking on the role of the young and penniless Marian Brook who’s sent to live with her aunts in New York on The Gilded Age is Louisa Jacobson. The HBO period drama is Jacobson’s TV debut, though she has appeared in various stage productions over the past few years. This includes Native Son, Member of the Wedding, and Romeo and Juliet, in which she played the ill-fated lover.

Taissa Farmiga (Gladys Russell)

Taissa Farmiga, sister of Vera Farmiga, takes on the role of Gladys Russell, the young daughter of George and Bertha. Throughout her career, Farmiga has appeared on several chapters of the American Horror Story anthology series, as well as other horror-themed shows like The Twilight Zone and 50 States of Fright. Her film appearances include The Nun, The Mule, and The Final Girls, to name only a few.

Blake Ritson (Oscar Van Rhijn)

Blake Ritson is in The Gilded Age cast as Oscar van Rhijn, the highly intelligent and charismatic son of Agnes. Throughout his career, which goes back to the mid 1990s, Ritson has spent most of his time appearing on TV shows or in made-for-TV movies. This includes shows like Upstairs Downstairs, Da Vinci’s Demons, and Krypton, on which he portrayed Brainiac. He is also rather prolific in the world of video games, voicing characters in everything from the Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire adaptation and Dark Souls III.

Simon Jones (Bannister)

Taking on the role Agnes van Rhijn’s butler, Bannister, on The Gilded Age is veteran actor Simon Jones. Over the years, Jones has played characters like King George V in the 2019 Downton Abbey movie, various roles in Monty Python’s The Meaning of Life, and Arthur Dent in various versions of the The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.

Harry Richardson (Larry Russell)

Harry Richardson shows up on The Gilded Age as Larry Russell, the Harvard graduate son of George and Bertha, who has a strong relationship with his younger sister Gladys. Fans of the period drama Poldark will certainly recognized Richardson for his portrayal of Drake Carne throughout the show’s run. If not, the eagle-eyed viewers of Dunkirk will also find Richardson oddly familiar. 

Thomas Cocquerel (Tom Raikes)

Taking on the role of Tom Raikes, a young lawyer who falls in love with Marian Brook on The Gilded Age, is Thomas Cocquerel. Over the course of the past decade, Cocquerel has gone from appearing in various short films like Walk Right In and Campdraft to landing prominent roles in everything from Billionaire Boys Club to Escape Room: Tournament of Champions. He has also showed up on a few shows during that same stretch of time, including Love Child, Anzac Girls, and The 100.

Jack Gilpin (Church)

Jack Gilpin shows up on The Gilded Age as Church, the no-nonsense butler who runs a tight ship at the Russell home. Gilipin, who balances his time between acting and serving as an Episcopal priest, has pulled off a Dick Wolf hat trick by appearing on Law & Order, Special Victims Unit, and Criminal Intent. Outside of that, he has shown up on series like Damages, Succession, and Billions, to name only a few. His film credits include 21, Trouble with the Curve, and Adventureland.

Jeanne Tripplehorn (Sylvia Chamberlain)

Jeanne Tripplehorn appears in a guest role on The Gilded Age taking on the part of enigmatic art collector Sylvia Chamberlain, who has been shunned from most of New York high society. This is not the first time Tripplehorn has appeared on an HBO drama series as she previously co-starred alongside the late Bill Paxton on Big Love. Over the years, Tripplehorn has also made appearances on shows like Mrs. America and The Ben Stiller Show. Her film work includes Basic Instinct, The Firm, and Gloria Bell, to name just a few.

Nathan Lane (Ward McAllister)

The great Nathan Lane takes on the role of Ward McAllister on The Gilded Age. One of the most recognizable members of the cast, Lane’s character opens the doors to the ultra-elite known as “The Four Hundred.” The three-time Tony Award winner has bounced between the stage, film, and TV throughout his career, appearing in The Producers, The Birdcage, and Modern Family, to name just a very small portion of his work. Lane most recently showed up in the Only Murders in the Building cast.

Audra McDonald (Dorothy Scott)

And then there is Audra McDonald, who takes on the role of Dorothy Scott, the estranged mother of Peggy Scott. Prior to joining The Gilded Age cast, the multi-talented performer made Broadway history by taking home a staggering six Tony Awards over the years for shows like A Moon for the Misbegotten, 110 in the Shade, and several others. Her TV credits include Private Practice, Sesame Street, and The Good Fight. McDonald also provided the voice of Madame de Garderobe (a.k.a. The Wardrobe) in the 2017 live-action version of Beauty and the Beast.

These are just some of the actors and actresses who make up The Gilded Age cast, and there are plenty of other great names who are featured throughout the series. This story is going to have to get into a few spoilers for Ghostbusters: Afterlife, so you will want to stop reading now if you haven’t seen the film  and want to remain unscathed. 

It’s a huge point of emphasis in the new story for Ghostbusters: Afterlife. Egon Spengler (the late Harold Ramis) left his family in the lurch for years, so that he could set up shop in the Midwest and protect the world from the pending threat of Gozer, returning to finish what it started in 1984. Egon’s granddaughter, Phoebe, puts most of these clues together so that she and her friends -- aided by the original Ghostbusters -- can stop Gozer one more time. But that leaves another mystery unsolved in the movie. Who is Egon’s wife? 

We meet Callie (Carrie Coon) in the movie. She is Egon’s estranged daughter, and she spends the bulk of Ghostbusters: Afterlife stewing over the fact that she grew up without a father. She knows he’s a scientist, but doesn’t care what he studies. She looks out over the dirt farm Egon left behind and only sees reasons why her father stayed away from her. But who is Callie’s mother? Why is she not mentioned, and where might she be over the course of Ghostbusters: Afterlife? When we sat down with Coon during the recent Ghostbusters press day, I asked her if that ever came up in conversation with director Jason Reitman, and she skirted the issue by replying:

That’s what we do! And the main reason I even brought it up during the Ghostbusters: Afterlife press interviews is because I had a theory. What if Callie’s mother in this universe is Janine Melnitz, played once again in the movie by the inimitable Annie Potts? We see Janine in the beginning of the movie when Callie moves to the deserted farm. This proves that Janine was living out there with (or near) Egon. Did she want to stay by to meet the daughter she also abandoned? When you look at Carrie Coon, she easily COULD be the offspring of Egon and Janine. 

So I put the same question to Ghostbusters: Afterlife writer Gil Kenan, and his answer was a real head-scratcher. He told CinemaBlend:

Which implies that they WILL flesh it out later. And the closing mid-credit scenes of Ghostbusters: Afterlife could imply how. In them, we see Ecto-1 returning to New York City. We see Winston (Ernie Hudson) catching up with Janine, and telling her he bought the fire station back. It must be opening up again for some reason. The fact that Gil Kenan didn’t shoot the connection between Callie and Janine down instantly makes me think there is some “there” there. But will have to see if and how that develops should the Ghostbusters 4 that Hudson is teasing come to life one day.

One of the best things about Ghostbusters: Afterlife is Carrie Coon’s portrayal of Callie Spengler and the way she comes to terms with the life and legacy of her late father, Egon Spengler, who abandoned his family, friends, and fellow ghostbusters for unknown reasons. There’s just something about the way Coon embodies both strength and pain in her remarkable performance that draws you in and makes you want to see what else this talented actress has to offer.

Fortunately, there are a lot of great Carrie Coon movies and TV shows that not only show her strength as an actress but also her range and commitment to the various roles she has taken over the years. Here are just a few examples, including The Leftovers, Widows, and Gone Girl.

Gone Girl (2014)

When his wife suddenly leaves without warning, writer Nick Dunne (Ben Affleck) is left to clean up the mess left in her wake and get to the bottom of the mystery, as he becomes the main suspect. David Fincher’s 2014 adaptation of the Gillian Flynn’s Gone Girl explores what happens when a seemingly perfect marriage crumbles beyond repair.

Why it’s worth checking out: Rosamund Pike’s dynamic portrayal of Amy Dunne is reason enough to check out Gone Girl, but Carrie Coon’s take on her sister-in-law (and Nick’s sister), Margo Dunne, is right up there. The voice of reason throughout the psychological thriller, it is almost hard to believe this was her first feature-length film.

The Leftovers (2014 - 2017)

Set three years after millions of mothers, fathers, sons, and daughters disappeared as part of the “Sudden Departure,” the HBO series The Leftovers follows those who were left behind with unanswered questions, broken mental states, and all kinds of pain.

Why it’s worth checking out: Carrie Coon’s portrayal of Nora Durst, a broken woman who finds the strength to carry on following the mysterious disappearance of not only her husband, but son and daughter, remains one of the most interesting characters in recent TV memory. Durst, and her on-screen partner Kevin Garvey (Justin Theroux), helped navigate viewers through the grim and confusing world of The Leftovers.

Avengers: Infinity War (2018)

After years of planning (and failed attempts by his subordinates) the Mad Titan Thanos (Josh Brolin) sets off to fulfill his dream of bringing balance to the universe with the help of the six infinity stones, in Avengers: Infinity War.

Why it’s worth checking out: Carrie Coon’s take on Proxima Midnight, one of the “Children of Thanos,” is honestly one of the most terrifying aspects of the 2018 Marvel Cinematic Universe crossover event. Her brutal nature, cold demeanor, and imposing presence make a strong case for Proxima Midnight being one of the most dangerous MCU villains.

Widows (2018)

When their husbands are ambushed and killed in a botched robbery, four widows form an unlikely team and orchestrate a heist of their own to pay off their their late husbands’ debts. Directed by Steve McQueen (who wrote the script alongside Gillian Flynn), Widows is a daring heist thriller where death awaits around every corner.

Why it’s worth checking out: Without giving too much away, Carrie Coon’s character, Amanda, plays a pivotal role in the events of Widows, especially when it is revealed how she plays into the relationship shared by Viola Davis and Liam Neeson’s characters.

The Post (2017)

Washington Post publisher Katharine Graham (Meryl Streep) and editor Ben Bradlee (Tom Hanks) put their reputation, careers, and freedom on the line in order to publish a damning article uncovering years of government cover-ups. 

Why it’s worth checking out: Steven Spielberg’s 2017 newspaper drama The Post is one of the best journalism movies not just because of its two leads (though they are great), but because of the way in which it brilliantly displays what it’s like to work in an intense newsroom in the middle of a crisis. The supporting cast of actors, which includes Carrie Coon, Bob Odenkirk, David Cross, and Alison Brie, doesn’t hurt either.

Fargo Season 3 (2017)

The third season of the FX anthology dark comedy series, Fargo, centers on a couple consisting of Ray Stussy (Ewan McGregor) and Nikki Swango (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), who become involved in a double-murder, and Eden Valley Police Chief Gloria Burgle (Carrie Coon), who tries to get to the bottom of the crime that claimed her step-father’s life.

Why it’s worth checking out: Right up there with Frances McDormand in the 1996 film on which the Fargo series was based, Carrie Coon’s Gloria Burgle is a quirky law enforcement officer but also one who gets the job down when she gets a hunch. The likable and sometimes awkward character adds a considerable amount of levity and humor to the oftentimes dark show.

The Nest (2020)

With their marriage on the rocks in New York City, Roy (Jude Law) and Allison O’Hara (Carrie Coon) pick up what’s left of their broken lives and relocate to Surrey, England, with their two children. Though predicated on the idea that the move from New York to England will fill their bank account and bring meaning to their lives, reality comes crashing down one bit after another.

Why it’s worth checking out: Jude Law and Carrie Coon are both brilliant in the portrayals of a married couple attempting to find happiness, but it’s the latter that really shines here. The slow, methodical pacing of her character’s arc throughout the course of The Nest makes for one of the best performances of her career.

The Sinner Season 2 (2018)

In the second season of the USA Network crime anthology series, Detective Harry Ambrose (Bill Pullman) returns to his childhood hometown to investigate the poisoning of a local couple, which was supposedly carried out by a young boy named Julian Walker (Elisha Henig). While investigating, Ambrose meets Vera Walker (Carrie Coon), a strange woman with an even stranger connection to the suspected killer.

Why it’s worth checking out: One of the great things about Carrie Coon’s portrayal of Vera Walker in The Sinner Season 2 is the fact it is hard to get a read on the cult leader, so much so that it is hard to figure out if she's someone who cares for Julian or nothing more than a power-hungry leader of a mysterious commune. It’s this intrigue and mystery surrounding Coon's enigmatic performance that gives the show its hooks that sink into you and don't let go until the end credits roll, once everything is said and done.

The Legacy Of A Whitetail Deer Hunter (2018)

Buck Ferguson (Josh Brolin) is a prolific hunter with a successful hunting show who decides to try something new by taking his son, Jaden (Montana Jordan), on a hunting trip (along with his cameraman Don, played by Danny McBride). Over the course of the weekend, the father and son duo film a new episode of Buck’s popular TV program while also reconnecting in the process.

Why it’s worth checking out: Although she only appears in the opening minutes of The Legacy of a Whitetail Deer Hunter, Carrie Coon’s portrayal of Buck Ferguson’s ex-wife Linda does a miraculous job of setting the tone and establishing the nature of the estranged father and son’s relationship. And, although it would have been nice to see more of Linda and her new boyfriend Greg (Scoot McNairy), they both make the most of what little time they receive.

Izzy Gets The F*ck Across Town (2018)

When Izzy (Mackenzie Davis) finds out that her ex-boyfriend is not only engaged to marry her former best friend, but is throwing a party to celebrate across town, she does what any rational, and emotionally-sound person would do in that situation: she makes her way across Los Angeles in an attempt to bring it all crashing down.

Why it’s worth checking out: Mackenzie Davis is a force of nature throughout Izzy Gets the F*ck Across Town, and the movie would have been fine enough with her on a one-woman odyssey in the City of Angels. However, the supporting cast, specifically Carrie Coon with her portrayal of Izzy's sister Virginia, helps add more heart and depth to the movie’s simple premise and really help Davis’ character reach that next level of her personal journey.

There have been so many movies affected by the release-date shift of 2020, every once in a while I am reminded of a film and it makes me go, “Oh yeah, I’m excited to see that and I totally forgot it was supposed to come out months ago.” Jason Reitman’s Ghostbusters: Afterlife falls into that category. Originally due to drop in the Summer of 2020, the sequel now eyeballs a June 11, 2021 release, and as such, is ramping up promotion. Empire shared this latest image of the younger members of the Ghostbusters: Afterlife cast, and their costumes really caught my eye:

Mckenna Grace and Finn Wolfhard are sitting in Ecto-1 in this new image, and they are wearing the signature Ghostbusters jumpsuits. Now, are they just playing dress up, because Grace's character found equipment that once belonged to her later grandfather, Egon Spengler (Harold Ramis)? Or are the kids inheriting the “family” business, and getting ready to bust some ghosts?

Think back to the trailer for Ghostbusters: Afterlife that dropped oh so long ago. Carrie Coon plays a mom who moved her family to the Midwest, back to the farm that was in her family. Then, strange things started happening, and the audience learned that these people were Spenglers. Paul Rudd held up that Ghost Trap, and educated the kids on the exploitations of the Ghostbusters. Here, just watch it!

Speaking with Empire, Jason Reitman confirms that the movie he directed is set in the same universe as the first two Ghostbusters stories (which is different, then, from Paul Feig’s reboot). And he said that his father, Ivan, recently got to see a cut of the film, which led to this beautiful interaction:

That’s wonderful. And while it seems like we may see a young generation busting ghosts in Ghostbusters: Afterlife, Jason Reitman has secured the appearance of surviving cast members Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Annie Potts and Sigourney Weaver, making this an official Chapter Three in the saga.

As Empire notes, “Nostalgia Sequels” are hot right now, with franchises from Mad Max to Star Wars tapping back into their roots to get fanbases fired up for new stories. Jason Reitman was an inspired choice to follow up on his father Ivan’s legacy, and that first trailer brought the right mix of fear and wonder. I, for one, can’t wait to see where this movie goes, and anticipate its arrival on June 11, 2021.

Now that Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame are in the past and the MCU Phase 4 is underway, there’s been questions of who might return to future movies. After all, it seems anything is possible in these universes, so conceivably anyone could make a return appearance. Now we’ve got the latest on whether or not Carrie Coon, who played Proxima Midnight in Avengers: Infinity War, might make a return.

Marvel has a unique talent in bringing back characters we thought were long gone. So, with that said, it wouldn’t be out of the ordinary for Carrie Coon to come back. And in a conversation with THR, Carrie Coon hinted it’s always possible and that they got some assurances her making a return to the MCU wouldn’t be off the table. Here’s what she said:

It would be pretty awesome if they could find a way to bring Carrie Coon on for another role. She’s an actress with an impressive, offering up some really solid work in the TV show Fargo and her latest film The Nest opposite Jude Law. She’ll next be making an appearance in Ghostbusters: Afterlife.

For those who don’t recall, Carrie Coon’s villainous Proxima Midnight had a brief go of things in Avengers: Infinity War. At the end of that film, she brought Thanos’ armies to Wakanda to secure an infinity stone. While in the heat of battle, she fought Black Widow and Okoye before Scarlet Witch used telekinesis to throw her in front of a Thresher, killing her.

There’s a couple of ways Carrie Coon could potentially make a comeback. With DC toying with the multiverse in their upcoming Flash movie, there have been rumors swirling that the MCU might also dabble in the multiverse, too. If that happens, it wouldn’t be impossible to have her character return from another universe.

The other way would be to use her as a totally different character. Since Carrie Coon’s character required extensive CGI (you can hardly tell it’s her), it wouldn’t be out of the question if she made an appearance in the MCU as a totally different character. The Marvel Cinematic Universe has become a well-oiled machine over the decade and change of filmmaking, with every single installment in Phase Three was a critical and box office success. This includes The Russo Brothers pair of Avengers movies, which were massive crossover events that broke box office records. And it turns out that one Infinity War villain could have had a bigger role in Endgame. Namely, Carrie Coon's Proxima Midnight.

Thanos arrived in a big way in Avengers: Infinity War, with his loyal Black Order in tow. Chief among them was Proxima Midnight, who was voiced by The Leftovers actress Carrie Coon. The Emmy nominated actress recently spoke to her brief tenure in the MCU, and revealed that she could have had a meatier role in Endgame. But unfortunately she had a scheduling conflict, and only worked on set for a limited time. As she put it,

FOMO alert. Carrie Coon helped to bring Proxima Midnight to life in Avengers: Infinity War, voicing the character for her few lines of dialogue. But she didn't provide the character's physicalization or motion capture. What's more, she wasn't available for Endgame, with her previous stand-in Monique Ganderton playing the character in her (mute) appearance in Endgame.

Carrie Coon's comments to EW explains why Proxima Midnight's role was so limited in Avengers: Endgame. Proxima was killed in Infinity War during an epic battle against Okoye, Scarlet Witch, and Black Widow. But when Thanos was resurrected thanks to the Time Heist, so were his forces. But while other Black Order characters like Ebony Maw had lines in Endgame, Proxima's appearance was without dialogue and limited to the final battle.

Proxima Midnight (sans Carrie Coon) fought alongside Thanos' forces in Avengers: Endgame, and ultimately died a second time as a result. She perished when Iron Man sacrificed himself, and was last seen holding the body of her partner Corvus Glaive as they turned to dust. In the same interview, Carrie Coon was asked if she still might return to the MCU, saying:

That was honest. While Carrie Coon acknowledges that comic book properties are seemingly endless in their narrative possibilities, she doesn't believe she's getting a call anytime soon. Proxima Midnight was one cog in a massive ensemble of characters for the past two Avengers flicks, so the audience never got a chance to really connect with her. But we'll just have to see if she returns in Thanos-related flashbacks for projects like Disney+'s What If...?

After months of social distancing and isolating from home, it looks like movie theaters will slowly begin opening. And as such, there are a number of new titles preparing to hit theaters, and jumpstart the industry in the process. In addition to blockbusters like Tenet and Black Widow, there are also smaller projects hitting theaters like Sean Durkin's upcoming thriller The Nest. Starring Jude Law and Carrie Coon, the upcoming movie will follow a marriage as it seemingly descends into madness and distrust.

Jude Law and Carrie Coon are a strong pair of actors to lead The Nest, given their long and celebrated careers. And from the the first trailer for their thriller, it seems like the pair of performers are giving their all in Sean Durkin's mysterious new movie. The Nest's first trailer just arrived, which sets up the tense ride that audiences will go on once the movie hits newly reopened theaters. Check it out below.

Move over Adam Driver and Scarlett Johansson, because there's a new marriage story heading to theaters. Although it looks like The Nest will give its protagonists a far more grim fate than last year's Oscar nominated drama. Let's break down what we're being shown with The Nest's first trailer.

This first trailer opens on Jude Law's Rory, who is in his suburban home in the states. It looks like financial situation for his family has gone awry, threatening to break up the tight unit that includes his wife Allison (The Leftovers' Carrie Coon) and their kids. But Rory seems to find a light at the end of their fiscal tunnel, and decides to move his American family back to England. While he insists this move will solve their problems, things start to get more chaotic after the relocation.

Their new home is a gorgeous (rented) English manor including a stable, in stark juxtaposition to the family's dire financial situation. The family's fractured dynamic is soon explored, including comments about gender roles in Rory and Allison's marriage. And when Jude Law's character begins lying about their "wealth" to his friends and neighbors, the tension reaches a fever pitch.

The trailer for The Nest is really intriguing, and shows the type of story director Sean Durkin is trying to tell. From the limited footage we can see, Jude Law and Carrie Coon are both giving stunning performances, with praise from the movie's festival premiere flashing throughout the trailer's runtime. The cast also includes The Morning Show's Oona Roche, Troop Zero's Charlie Shotwell, and The Crown's Michael Culkin.

The Nest had its premiere at Sundance back in January, and it'll be getting its theatrical release courtesy of IFC films. The upcoming thriller will be able to offer something unique when movie theaters around the country have reopened, standing out among the big budget blockbusters that will be helping to start the industry back up. And with names like Jude Law attached, it should be interesting to see how The Nest will perform at the box office.

The Ghostbusters 2020 cast is all smiles after busting ghosts for 68 days. Filming just wrapped on the family oriented sequel to the first two Ghostbusters movies. Jason Reitman is directing from a script he co-wrote, with his father Ivan Reitman -- who directed Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters II -- as producer.

Ghostbusters 2020 filming began in July under the working title "Rust City" and you can see that it just finished this week in October 2019:

As Jason Reitman says, 68 days and still smiling. Bustin' makes 'em feel GOOD. You can see Ivan Reitman to the far left in the photo, and clockwise from there we have newcomer Logan Kim at the bottom, back up to Stranger Things' Finn Wolfhard, then my eternal The Leftovers queen Carrie Coon, an almost unrecognizable Mckenna Grace, and director Jason Reitman himself at the far right.

As far as we know, Ghostbusters 2020 will focus on two sets of teens -- one set older, and one younger. Carrie Coon is meant to play a single mother, with Mckenna Grace and Finn Wolfhard as her kids. It's possible Logan Kim and another announced cast member, Celeste O’Connor, are playing the other young and older teens.

Captain Marvel's Mckenna Grace reportedly has a lead role, and when we saw the first photos of her new look for Ghostbusters 2020, it immediately got fans thinking her character might be related to Egon Spengler. As you probably know, we lost Ghostbusters' Egon actor Harold Ramis in 2014.

This new movie is meant to be closely tied to the original movies as a direct sequel to 1984's Ghostbusters and 1989's Ghostbusters II. Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Sigourney Weaver, and Annie Potts are all said to be reprising their original characters.

Dan Aykroyd confirmed Ghostbusters 2020 follows "the actual descendants of the original Ghostbusters." So even though no characters have been confirmed, I have a hard time believing Mckenna Grace isn't going to star in this as an adorable mini Spengler. If Finn Wolfhard is her brother, then maybe they are Egon's kids or grandkids?

Don't forget that Paul Rudd will also be in Ghostbusters 2020, and Variety said he'll be playing a teacher. Fargo Season 2 -- aka the best season -- standout Bokeem Woodbine is also on board as Sheriff Domingo.

Ghostbusters 2020 has plenty of time to add supernatural goodness in VFX since the movie isn't scheduled to hit theaters until this coming summer, July 10, 2020. We're still on standby for more confirmed information about the movie, and of course the first trailer.

The legacy of the Ghostbusters franchise is in a weird place right now. While the original is and always will be a classic, the first sequel doesn't have quite the same fanbase, and the 2016 reboot is... controversial. Still, Sony is trying its best to keep the brand alive, and it's why a brand new chapter will be heading our way in 2020.

Fittingly dubbed Ghostbusters 2020, the new project will return the series back to the original canon, and is working with a script co-written by Ivan Reitman (the director of the two original movies) and his son, Jason Reitman (who is taking the helm of the new chapter). The status of the deals with the original cast - Bill Murray, Dan Akyroyd, and Ernie Hudson - aren't entirely clear yet, but what we do know is that there are a number of talented actors who are now set to make their debut in the franchise:

Mckenna Grace

Her character doesn't have a name yet (you'll discover that's true for all of the entries in this feature), but Mckenna Grace is said to be playing what is described as the lead role in Ghostbusters 2020. It's worth noting that while she is still super young - only 13 years old - she already has a fair amount of franchise experience, having previously been in The Conjuring Universe's Annabelle Comes Home and the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Captain Marvel.

Carrie Coon

At this point in her career, Carrie Coon is best known for her work on the small screen, playing key roles in shows like The Leftovers, Fargo, and The Sinner, but she is slowly starting to make a splash in cinemas. In addition to working with brilliant directors like David Fincher (Gone Girl), Steve McQueen (Widows), and Jody Hill (The Legacy Of A Whitetail Deer Hunter), she also now has some blockbuster cred courtesy of her part as Proxima Midnight in both Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. Now she is set to be a key part of the Ghostbusters world as well, playing the single mother of Mckenna Grace's character.

Finn Wolfhard

There is already a direct correlation to be made between Finn Wolfhard and Ghostbusters, as the actor's character on Stranger Things famously dressed up as Peter Venkman for Halloween in the second season of the show. Now the young star's relationship with the great comedy franchise will grow even deeper thanks to his role in Ghostbusters 2020. He will play the brother of Mckenna Grace's character, and the son of Carrie Coon's - but, again, we don't really know much about the part beyond that.

Paul Rudd

Paul Rudd is always a great talent to have featured in any project, as his charisma is perpetually engaging, and his effortless charm leads his simple presence to light up a room (or movie theater). Thus far he is the only big name attached that isn't a part of the family at the center of the story, and that means that we know less about his part than anyone else's. We have high hopes that the project will somehow get him into a Ghostbusters jumpsuit, but for now that's entirely wishful thinking.

Celeste O’Connor & Logan Kim

Per Variety, Celeste O'Connor and Logan Kim are the latest actors to join the Ghostbusters 2020 ensemble, though we also don't know how they factor into the mysterious plot. Both actors are newcomers to the industry (Kim has only one title on his resume - 2015's The Dog Who Saved Summer), but this could be their big breakout opportunity. O'Connor is a potential star on the rise, having played a younger version of Gugu Mbatha-Raw's character in the 2018 dramedy Irreplaceable You, and co-starred in the 2019 Sundance Film Festival entry Selah and The Spades.

Ghostbusters 2020 is gearing up for production now in target of hitting its currently-scheduled July 10, 2020 release. We'll keep updating this feature as the cast continues to grow, so keep checking this spot.

After years of waiting and development hell, it seemed like there would never be another sequel in the original Ghostbusters franchise. But, as if rising from the grave like a specter, Ghostbusters 3 is officially happening. Jason Reitman, the son of the original Ghostbusters director, is on board as director, but not a lot about the film is known. We do know that it will feature several new characters who will strap on proton packs, and it looks like the lead actor has been found. McKenna Grace ain't 'fraid of no ghosts!

While technically a sequel to the comedy classic that starred Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, and Ernie Hudson, there's no word on if any of those characters will return. Instead, four teenagers -- an older set and a younger set -- are taking over as our main characters, and it sounds like they will be led by Mckenna Grace.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Mckenna Grace has been cast in the new Ghostbusters film. The report even goes as far as to say that Grace might be in the starring role, which would be a major get for the rising star. Grace joins the already cast Finn Wolfhard and Carrie Coon. Wolfhard will play her brother while Coon is their single mother.

Mckenna Grace should be a familiar face to many. She recently played the younger version of Carol Danvers in Captain Marvel, which went on to break numerous records at the box office. Playing younger versions of a main character has become something of a specialty for Grace, having also done it in The Haunting of Hillhouse, I, Tonya, and The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. The young actor also starred alongside Chris Evans in the drama Gifted.

Jason Reitman's Ghostbusters has been the subject of some debate ever since it was announced. Some saw it as a response to the sexist backlash that plagued the all-female Ghostbusters reboot, and this wasn't helped by the director's poor choice of words that they were giving the franchise "back to fans."

However, the casting of Mckenna Grace as the ostensible lead and the focus of an all-new, younger cast seems to put those criticisms to bed. After all, you don't make the lead of your legacyquel a 12-year-old girl if you are trying to appease the "Ghost Bros" who trolled an all female Ghostbusters movie.

All in all, the new Ghostbusters is shaping up with a really promising cast. Mckenna Grace and Finn Wolfhard are rising stars and Carrie Coon is amazing in everything she's ever done her whole entire life. (I'm a big Leftovers fan). Back in January, it was announced that a new Ghostbusters movie is on the way, only rather than being a sequel to the 2016 reboot, it will be set in the same continuity as the first two films. Naturally there have been questions about whether any of the original Ghostbusters will appear in this new movie, but it also goes without saying that there will be plenty of new characters introduced. According to the latest update, The Leftovers’ Carrie Coon and Stranger Things’ Finn Wolfhard have been eyed to play some of these newcomers.

According to Variety, these two actors are in talks to star in Ghostbusters 3. While Sony wouldn’t provide any story details, the outlet’s sources say that the movie will focus on a single mother and her family, with Carrie Coon as the mother and Finn Wolfhard as her son. It remains to be seen specifically how either of these characters will connect to the new Ghostbusters team, but evidently this mother, son and the rest of the family will be involved with the latest battle against the supernatural in some capacity.

Carrie Coon’s notable movie credits include Gone Girl, The Post, Avengers: Infinity War and, most recently, Widows, but the actress is arguably best known for playing Nora Durst in HBO’s The Leftovers and Gloria Burgle in Season 3 of FX’s Fargo. As for Finn Wolfhard, he’s famous for playing Mike Wheeler in Netflix’s Stranger Things, which recently wrapped up shooting its third season, and Richie Tozier in 2016’s IT, a role he’ll briefly reprise later this year in IT Chapter Two while Bill Hader plays the adult Richie. Variety’s article noted that while there were “rumblings” that Ghostbusters 3 director Jason Reitman was hesitant to include any actors from the Stranger Things cast given that there were similarities between that property and Ghostbusters, he changed his mind after seeing Wolfhard’s audition. Again, though, neither of these actors have finalized deals just yet.

In addition to directing Ghostbusters 3, Jason Reitman, who’s made movies like Up in the Air and The Front Runner, and is the son of original Ghostbusters director, Ivan Reitman, is also co-writing the script with Monster House and Poltergeist remake director Gil Kenan. The day after this new movie was announced, a teaser was released showing the Ecto-1, the Ghostbusters’ trademark vehicle, languishing in a barn, with no indication of how it ended up there or how long it’s been inactive. Unofficially, it’s been reported that Ghostbusters 3 will feature teenagers, specifically two boys and two girls, as new Ghostbusters recruits, so perhaps Finn Wolfhard’s character could end up putting on a Proton Pack.

Heading into what's essentially the tail end of the summer blockbuster season, it's kind of hard to keep some of the movies straight, especially when some of them are sold so similarly. Take A-X-L and Kin: two movies I've been confusing for the past couple of weeks, as they've both been positioned as "kid finds tech that doesn't belong to them and goes on an adventure" romps setting out to do similar things. After actually seeing Kin, not only is it not deserving of such a top level layer of confusion, it's also not even the film its trailer is selling -- and it's all the better for it.

Eli (Myles Truitt) is about to reunite with his brother Jimmy (Jack Reynor), who has just gotten out of prison after a six year sentence. Unfortunately, that reunion is soon complicated by a botched robbery meant to pay off a dangerous criminal (James Franco) who protected Jimmy in prison. As if that wasn't complicated enough, Eli has a secret of his own: he possesses an otherworldly weapon that can do some serious damage. A weapon whose original and equally mysterious owners are looking to recover.

Considering that Kin is the feature film debut for writer/director pair Jonathan and Josh Baker, it is a pretty confidently crafted film. The visual style is clearly defined, and the characters are incredibly solid, leading to some clever performances from the entire cast. Particularly, Truitt and Reynor's chemistry as brothers skips past the fact that they're adopted, landing their on-screen relationship more along the lines of siblings that do not miss a step after six years apart. Throw into the mix Dennis Quaid (doing his best Harrison Ford impression) as the patriarch of the family, James Franco playing his standard psychotic / comedic villain archetype, and Zoe Kravitz as a kindly stripper, and you've got the core cast that drives Kin's interesting, but totally flawed story.

The fact that Kin's story isn't as polished as it should be is the greatest shame when it comes to evaluating this film. Looking at how it's being sold to general audiences, the final product is less schmaltzy and actually darker than the advertisements would let on. That comes from the fact that there's two different films that are fused into Kin's final product: a road drama where a pair of brothers are being chased by a murderous crime lord, and a family adventure where a young boy discovers a gun from out of this world and is being pursued by its rightful owners. While there's definitely credit due to Jonathan and Josh Baker for extending their short film, Bag Man, into a feature that works well enough, the seams between both concepts they're trying to marry are extremely visible.

If Kin had either dumped the concept of the gun and its retrieval completely, or written it into the script better, we'd be looking at possibly the biggest surprise of the summer. There are good patches of this film where the gun, and its owners, are such non-factors to the narrative that it really didn't need to be there. It's only important in the third act, which engages in a predictable, but really entertaining fire fight at a local police station. But just like Carrie Coon's FBI agent character, it really only comes into play in the last portion of the film, which throws a ton of intriguing, sequel-baiting twists onto the wall, and just barely sticks.

Kin is by no means a bad movie, so much as it's a sloppy story that still works as an entertaining experience. Reshaped a little bit, it could have been the anti-violence / pro-family message film that the Bakers are obviously trying to make. While the roughness of the final product does hold it back from being something greater, it doesn't make it an unwatchable film, just a mildly frustrating one. Still, it shouldn't be a problem for those who do take a chance on Kin to not only fall into its rather unique universe, but to come out on the other side wanting to see what happens next.

Among the many superlatives that can be attributed to it, Avengers: Infinity War was a massive ensemble film like no other, bringing together (almost) all the actors from the Marvel Cinematic Universe for one giant event. Given the lengthy cast list and the character-filled frames of the film, you would think that shooting the movie was a fun and busy communal experience among the many co-stars. However, while it might have been that way for some actors on Infinity War, for Carrie Coon, it was quite different. The actress, who played Black Order member Proxima Midnight, found filming Infinity War to be a lonely experience, as she explained:

It is interesting to think that such a jam-packed movie could be a lonely shooting experience for anyone but I think that what Carrie Coon told Entertainment Weekly speaks to the nature of modern filmmaking, especially on a blockbuster. With so many moving parts and so many busy, in-demand actors, sometimes it's not logistically feasible to have everybody in the same place at the same time. Thanks to movie magic, it's not always even necessary. Carrie Coon only shot her motion-capture scenes for six hours in Atlanta before flying to San Francisco to get her face scanned at ILM. That was it. That was the extent of her experience shooting Infinity War. So you can see how that could be a lonely, somewhat impersonal experience, just breezing in and not getting to act opposite anyone.

Because she played a motion-capture character, Carrie Coon's experience was probably not representative of all of her co-stars. For the actors that appeared onscreen in their human forms and weren't motion-capture, there was undoubtedly more actual interaction on set, equaling what was hopefully a less lonely experience. But Proxima Midnight was created with CGI in post, so ultimately it wasn't necessary for Carrie Coon to film with the actors she would be sharing screentime with.

We've often heard how awkward and weird it can be to film these CGI-heavy blockbusters where an actor is required to act with nothing in front of them except maybe a ball on a stick, but the loneliness aspect is something you don't hear about as much. It definitely makes sense and is just one of the many challenges that come with shooting these types of films where there is less and less tethering an actor to the tangibility of the real world. Whatever loneliness she felt, it didn't effect Carrie Coon's performance, as Proxima Midnight was one of the more menacing members of the Black Order, even if she ultimately didn't have much screen time.

USA had one of the hottest series in primetime last summer with The Sinner, starring Jessica Biel and Bill Pullman. The Sinner was based on a book of the same name and originally produced as a limited series, so there was no guarantee that it would be back. Fans of the show got some good news in March with the announcement that The Sinner would indeed return for a second chapter that takes Pullman's Detective Harry Ambrose in some brand new and very creepy directions. The first trailer has hit the web, and it showcases Pullman along with new costar Carrie Coon. Take a look!

Well, if you were worried that The Sinner wouldn't be able to recreate the creepiness and aura of unsettling mystery that so defined the first season, this trailer should lay those worries to rest! While the 30 seconds of footage aren't enough fill viewers in on what exactly is going to happen, it's already clear that Harry Ambrose is in for a case that's at least as unnerving as Cora's case in Season 1. Carrie Coon's character doesn't have much to do in the trailer other than look super creepy, but she does a killer job of it.

Fortunately, USA has already revealed some tantalizing details about Season 2 that fill in some blanks left by the trailer. In the second season of The Sinner, Harry Ambrose will be pulled back to his hometown in rural New York following a disturbing crime. At the heart of the case seems to be an 11-year-old boy who has murdered his parents with no discernible motive. The trailer does show a young boy, so we can count on the kid playing an active role in the series.

While investigating the case, Ambrose will end up in dangerous territory due to a previously undiscovered darkness in his hometown, and the child isn't quite as ordinary as he seemed at first glance. When facing people who will stop at nothing to protect their secrets -- including an enigmatic woman who could be the key to the mystery -- Ambrose will undoubtedly have some big decisions to make. The Sinner will once again be a limited season and run for eight episodes.

Carrie Coon (Fargo) is on board to play a woman by the name of Vera, who is as formidable as she is mysterious as she is forced to choose between sticking with her community's ideals and doing what she truly desires. Coon and Bill Pullman are joined as regulars by Natalie Paul of The Deuce, who plays a woman training to become a detective in the New York town, and she's responsible for bringing Ambrose in for the case. Hannah Gross of Mindhunters will play Heather's high school best friend named Marin, who mysteriously disappeared from the town many years ago.

The Sinner will return for Season 2 on Wednesday, August 1 on USA. Major spoilers ahead for Avengers: Infinity War. If you haven't seen it yet, look away!

It's no secret that the Marvel Cinematic Universe is a very secretive place. A ton of money, anticipation, and planning goes into each new blockbuster, so Disney and the studio are hoping to keep films' secrets until they finally arrive in theaters. No movie was quite as high stakes as Avengers: Infinity War, which combined 18 movies and a decade of filmmaking into one explosive ensemble project. There was a ton of conversation around just how secret the film's contents were, with many actors not being given much information besides their own scenes. This was certainly the case for actress Carrie Coon, who played Black Order villain Proxima Midnight. While she was involved in a ton of big scenes, it turns out Coon didn't know about Thanos' finger snap, and the myriad character deaths that followed. When asked about the big twist, she said:

Despite being onset for some major character deaths and interacting with the majority of the MCU's heroes, Carrie Coon wasn't privy to every secret hidden up the Russo Brothers' sleeves. Instead, Coon could sit in horror like the rest of us as half of the galaxy's inhabitants were killed with the snap of a finger.

Carrie Coon's comments seem to indicate that the Leftovers and Gone Girl actress isn't quite as nerdy as the rest of us. Rather than trying to gather any information from her time onset in Infinity War, she simply did her scenes as Proxima Midnight and didn't ask questions. But considering how tight security is on these projects, that's probably the right call.

There is a certain irony that Carrie Coon had a role in Infinity War, especially considering her role in HBO's The Leftovers. That show focused on a world where 2% of the world's population mysteriously disappears. Thanos was able to take out 48% more people during his snap, but it's strange to see those two narratives colliding. In the same conversation with EW, the actress referenced how doom seems to follows her characters, saying:

While Carrie Coon's character don't always get a happy ending, the actress has managed to get involved in some truly exciting movie and TV shows throughout the years. Now the question is: what's next?

The Russo brothers' Avengers: Infinity War is an enormous movie with an enormous cast. Not only will fan-favorite Marvel Cinematic Universe mainstays like Iron Man's Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) show up, but several newcomers will also get in on the action. One of the most exciting additions to the ensemble is the casting of Fargo star Carrie Coon, and in a recent interview, Joe Russo revealed that she would appear in the film as none other than Black Order member Proxima Midnight.

This news comes to us following the recent announcement that Tom Vaughan-Lawlor would step in for the role of Ebony Maw as a member of The Black Order. Now, with Carrie Coon in to provide the voice and mo-cap for Proxima Midnight, we know a bit more about the lone female member of this loyal crew of Thanos (Josh Brolin) followers. The wife of fellow Black Order member Corvus Glaive, Proxima is a formidable combatant known for her use of a poison-coated spear that rarely misses its target. In short: she's a total badass.

Like many other members of The Black Order, Proxima Midnight has not featured too prominently in the marketing campaign for Avengers: Infinity War, as Thanos has really been the focus of the affair. That said, she does show up in a few key shots, such as the scene in which Loki (Tom Hiddleston) surrenders the Tesseract to The Mad Titan. Check out a shot from the scene, below.

She also appears in a seriously cool hero shot in which she throws a spear at Captain America (Chris Evans), who ducks to one side and catches it to narrowly avoid getting skewered. The marketing for Avengers: Infinity War has not given us much information about The Black Order yet, but it's clear that they're going to be very formidable opponents. Now, with Joe Russo's confirmation of Carrie Coon in the role to Radio Times, we arguably can rest easy knowing that the character remains in good hands.

Of course, don't take Joe Russo at his word. Carrie Coon has also officially taken to social media to confirm that she's playing Proxima Midnight in Avengers: Infinity War and that we will see her actual face as part of her mo-cap performance. Check out the Fargo actress' tweet, below.

As for Carrie Coon herself, the Fargo star has remained incredibly busy over the course of the last few years. In addition to Fargo, she has also arguably become most well-known for her role as Nora Durst on HBO's The Leftovers. On the big screen side of things, she has appeared in Gone Girl and The Post. Avengers: Infinity War is her first significant jump into the big screen realm, so we're incredibly intrigued to see what she will bring to the table when The Russos' behemoth Marvel outing finally premieres.

On that note, audiences will get a chance to see what Carrie Coon does as Proxima Midnight when Avengers: Infinity War hits the big screen later this month on April 27.

The 2017 Emmy Nominations were announced the other day, and fans were pleased to see that Carrie Coon had gotten herself a nomination...it was just for the wrong show, sort of. Coon got a nomination for her great work on Fargo Season 3, but her other show, The Leftovers, went home mostly empty-handed -- save for a Best Guest Actress nomination for Ann Dowd. This has caused a large number of fans to cry foul over what feels like a glaring snub, and Coon herself was equally displeased to learn that no love was given to her Leftovers family.

It would be hard to find a show that was more universally praised this year than The Leftovers, both with fans and with critics. The HBO drama got off to a divisive start in Season 1, but came into its own in Season 2 and then blasted off into the narrative stratosphere in Season 3. Earlier this summer, The Leftovers aired its question-provoking series finale, so this was its last chance to get recognized by the TV Elite in the form of an Emmy. Sadly and maybe not surprisingly, the show and (most of) its stars was largely passed over once again for arguably more boring and safe choices, and Carrie Coon can't say she didn't feel any disappointment.

But then, Emmys hardly measure a shows worth or legacy, as The Wire was famously only nominated for two Outstanding Writing awards, and it didn't win either, but still manages to get instantly namechecked during conversations about "the best TV show ever." Humbled by her own recognition elsewhere, Coon is thankful for the fan support and the critics who poured over every inch of The Leftovers with think pieces.

Though The Leftovers probably should have been nominated for every major category -- especially Outstanding Actress -- it did manage to procure a nomination for Ann Dowd for Outstanding Guest Actress for her one-off appearance in Kevin's second trip to Assassin World. There's no question that Dowd, who also earned a nomination for her stellar work on The Handmaid's Tale, was great on the show both then and in previous seasons, and Carrie Coon told ET Canada in a Facebook live event that she was so pleased to see Dowd score the nomination.

In this age of Peak TV, where there are so many great shows on, there's bound to be plenty of snubs at any given awards show. It's just a real disappointment that one of the -- if not THE best -- show of the year didn't receive proper recognition for the all the hard work every cast and crew member put, since this isn't exactly the easiest show to put together. Not to sound like a butt-hurt fanboy here, but my butt is hurt, people. It's a shame Carrie Coon didn't get a nod for her mesmerizing work (especially that final scene, because whoo boy), but when has an Emmy ever really mattered? When your show wins, that's when.

Today is a particularly exciting one for the world of TV. Because the 2017 Emmy Nominations were announced, leading to a mixture of joy and dread within the community. And with so many fantastic new shows hitting the silver screen, there are tons of new faces on the list of nominees. But new faces also mean that some more expected noms were slighted. Here are the ten biggest snubs from this year's Emmy Nominations.

Carrie Coon (The Leftovers)

This spring brought the return of HBO's dark drama The Leftovers, for its third and final season. Season 3 brought a variety of changes for the characters, but the biggest revelation was Carrie Coon's Nora. The series finale was a beautiful and complex story revolving around Nora, and Coon gave an outstanding performance that many thought would land her an Emmy nomination today. But she was snubbed, as was the series as a whole. But it's not all bad; Carrie Coon landed a nomination for her work on Fargo.

Danielle Brooks (Orange is the New Black)

While the newest season of Orange is the New Black was a high stakes drama set during a prison riot, the Emmy nominations were actually based on Season 4. The series was passed for most major categories, with only Laverne Cox and Uzo Aduba receiving nominations. And while this is a snub for the full cast, it's especially frustrating for fans of Danielle Brooks' Taystee. Her performance, particularly during Poussey's death, was raw and heartbreaking, and I'm majorly shocked she wasn't recognized.

Michael McKean (Better Call Saul)

Both Better Call Saul and its predecessor Breaking Bad usually have pretty good luck with Emmy nominations. Breaking Bad cleaned up with the awards in its final few seasons, but Better Call Saul has already gotten its first major snub. Michael McKean was not nominated for his role as Chuck this year, which is a major upset. His performance has been universally applauded, as he plays both slight insanity and provides support for Jimmy. And considering the fate of his character in Season 3's finale, he may not have another chance at a nomination.

Mandy Moore (This is Us)

One of the newcommers that cleaned up with 2017 Emmy nominations is NBC's critically acclaimed family drama This is Us. The show and most of the starring cast got noms, further cementing that the Pearsons are here to stay. But one cast member got snubbed: singer turned actress Mandy Moore. While she's been booking TV and movie roles for years, This is Us is a revelation for Moore's acting chops. But she got snubbed, and is one of the only actors who has to go back to work for Season 2 without at least a nomination.

The Main Cast Of Girls (Girls)

Another acclaimed HBO show that came to an end this year was Lena Dunham's opus Girls. The series saw the various characters becoming full fledged adults, which resulted in some of them saying goodbye forever. And while the show's various guest stars got nominations, Girls was passed up for the biggest categories. This includes the starring cast of Girls, including Lena Dunham, Allison Williams, and Adam Driver. What a bummer way to go out.

The Supporting Cast of Atlanta (Atlanta)

Another new show that managed to scoop up a gaggle of Emmy nominations is Donald Glover's Atlanta. The FX dramedy was instantly critically acclaimed, and the Television Academy certainly seems to recognize its significance. But that doesn't mean that Atlanta was safe from snubs, as the supporting cast didn't get any noms. Indeed, only Glover was nominated for his performance, leaving the likes of Zazie Beetz, Keith Stanfield, and Brian Tyree Henry out in the cold.

The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon

One of the aspects of TV accolades that is constantly changing is the battle for late night supremacy. And this year, it looks like Jimmy Fallon and company came just short of enough critical acclaim to earn them an Emmy nomination for Best Variety Talk Series. Instead, they were edged out by the competition like Stephen Colbert, James Corden, and Jimmy Kimmel. Full Frontal With Samantha Bee even managed to scoop up a nom, although that series probably needs it far more than Fallon and company.

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend

One show that probably needs the Emmy nominations more than most is The CW's quirky musical comedy series Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. The series nabbed a bunch of noms last year, while star Rachel Bloom also won a Golden Globe for her performance. These accolades helped the show get renewed for a second season, despite poor viewership. But the series only got one nomination for the song "We Tapped That Ass", even being snubbed for its fantastic opening theme song. Let's hope this doesn't result in the network cancelling the show after Season 3.

Oprah Winfrey (The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks)

Oprah Winfrey has been getting involved in a fair amount of film and TV projects as of late, once again flexing her acting muscles. The latest was HBO's TV film The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, which Winfrey produced and starred in. Many believed Oprah to be a shoe in for a possible nomination, but her competition in the limited series/TV movie competition was extremely stiff. Ultimately Big Little Lies and FX's Feud nabbed two leading actress nominations each, making it nearly impossible for someone like Oprah to get into the fray.

Emmy Rossum (Shameless)

Emmy Rossum has made quite the name for herself for portraying Fiona on Showtime's Shameless. Perhaps the least selfish character out of the cast of awful people, Fiona is a fan favorite. And despite Rossum's successful negotiations for a higher pay, she is consistently snubbed by the Television Academy. Meanwhile, her co-star William H. Macy has managed to grab a nomination for the past three years, and 2017 will be his fourth. Hopefully Rossum will be able to finally get the recognition she deserves before the show ends for good.

Spoiler warning (and mild overall judgment) for anyone who hasn't yet watched The Leftovers series finale.

A few weeks ago, one of TV's most complex and fascinating series came to its too-soon ending, as The Leftovers bid farewell to HBO and viewers with a stellar series finale that offered as much satisfaction and sidebar conversations as every previous episode. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the Damon Lindelof co-creation bowed out on many unresolved notes, particularly the verisimilitude of Nora's tale of an alternate reality. Don't go looking to get any answers or insight from the stunning actress Carrie Coon, either, because she's not talking. Here's why.

For anyone who thought that Carrie Coon would be more on the audience's side than Damon Lindelof, by metaphorically loosening up her lips and letting the facts fly, this is probably a disappointment. TV ambiguity has a way of generating ire in immeasurable and unpredictable ways, and Lindelof has had a front row seat to fan derision for all the years that came after the polarizing final episode (and final season, if we're being real here) of Lost. So he knew damned well that setting up Nora and Kevin's last conversation would send viewers up the flagpole with curious inquiries.

But for those of us who don't need every iota of plot mechanisms and story exposition spelled out, there's something quite lovely about Carrie Coon's answer to Deadline, and her insistence on keeping Nora's possible truths and untruths to herself. In the same way that some fans go all St. Elsewhere-finale with their theories and assumptions about some TV mysteries, The Leftovers has seen its share of wild fan-formed explanations meant to tie up loose ends. But without Damon Lindelof and the writers directly telling us how to read into things, we're allowed to think whatever we want, which one might think people would enjoy more.

If someone obsessively wanted another Earth to exist in The Leftovers, offering a form of resolution to the Sudden Departure (if not an outright explanation for it), then the only thing needed is just belief in Nora's story about what happened to her that fateful day. On the flip side, if a viewer wants to really read into that cut-away from Nora inside the "device," when she appears to start screaming something, then he or she is free to believe that the experiment was either a hoax or just altogether ineffective. It's technically a win-win situation for all.

To be fair, The Leftovers has received far more praise and acclaim than vitriol for its final episode, as diehard fans knew full well how things could potentially go down, at least in terms of generally conclusions and a lack thereof. (Kevin's faked amnesia might not have been the most foreseeable plot point, admittedly.) And in the end, at least the big question The Leftovers leaves us with is more of a this-or-that situation, as opposed to Lost's medley of unanswerable thoughts.

Without anything else from The Leftovers ever set to make it to the light of day, fans will either have to just rewatch the series and come up with new theories, or we'll all just have to go out on our own time to try and find someone to take us to the "Other Side" to see for ourselves. Steven Spielberg is already deep in production on his next film, The Papers, and while we knew that two huge stars had joined the cast, it's now been revealed that even more famous faces are going to be a part of the movie. Meryl Streep

Meryl Streep is on board to play Washington Post publisher Kay Graham in The Papers. Along with the Post's editor Ben Bradlee, she challenged the federal government over their right to publish the Pentagon Papers. Streep, who's often hailed as the greatest actress of her generation, is coming off her 20th Oscar nomination for her performance in Florence Foster Jenkins last year. She will also be seen soon in the Mamma Mia sequel and Mary Poppins Returns.

Tom Hanks

Tom Hanks is set to portray Post editor Ben Bradlee in Spielberg's drama. While this will mark the first time that Hanks and Streep have shared the screen together, this will be the actor's fifth time working with Spielberg. The two-time Oscar winner was recently seen in Sully, Inferno and The Circle, and is also currently working on his voice part as Woody for Toy Story 4.

Sarah Paulson

Sarah Paulson has become a TV mainstay over the past few years, mostly due to her work with Ryan Murphy on American Horror Story, Feud and American Crime Story, for which she won a Primetime Emmy and Golden Globe for her portrayal of lawyer Marcia Clark. She'll also be seen on the big screen in next year's Ocean's Eight with another all star cast.

Bob Odenkirk

Bob Odenkirk is best known to TV audiences as Saul Goodman on the hit Breaking Bad, and in that show's prequel series Better Call Saul. Odenkirk is also known for his work in comedy, and has written for shows like Saturday Night Live, Late Night With Conan O'Brien and W/ Bob and David, which he also starred in with David Cross.

Matthew Rhys

Actor Matthew Rhys is currently known as America's favorite undercover Soviet spy after spending five seasons on the FX hit The Americans. He's also appeared in ABC's Brothers & Sisters and the mini-series Death Comes to Pemberley, and can next be seen on the big screen in Jungle Book.

Jesse Plemons

Jesse Plemons had his breakout role on Friday Night Lights from 2006-2011, and since then the actor has gone on to a number of notable TV and film projects. Among other things, he can be seen in The Master, Breaking Bad, Bridge of Spies and Fargo, which saw him receive an Emmy nomination in 2016. Other upcoming projects include American Made, Game Night and The Bell Jar.

David Cross

After 40 years on the big and small screens, it would be highly unusual if you hadn't seen something that Bruce Greenwood has starred in. St. Elsewhere, Knots Landing, I, Robot, the rebooted Star Trek films, Mad Men and American Crime Story have all seen his talents. He most recently appeared in the Dirty Dancing remake.

Tracy Letts

Tracy Letts is a writer and actor who's appeared in Judging Amy, Prison Break, Homeland, Elvis & Nixon and Divorce. He's also adapted several of the stage plays he's written for the big screen or TV, including Superior Donuts and August: Osage County.

Michael Stuhlbarg

Zach Woods

Zach Woods has filled his resume with work in a lot of notable projects, including The Office, The Other Guys, Kroll Show, Veep and The Good Wife. He's been a major player on HBO's Silicon Valley since it started in 2014.

According to Variety, the film is currently on the fast track and the filmmakers are looking to have it ready for this year's awards season, with The Papers seeing a limited release on December 22 and then going wide on January 12, 2018.

It's that time, yep. The time when the people on the TV there start talking in a way we're not used to hearing much. 16 months or so have passed since FX's Fargo ended its genre-bending second season, and Season 3 has finally arrived, led by a pair of polar opposite brothers played by Ewan McGregor in his first big TV role. As evidenced by the recent mind-warp of FX's Legion, creator Noah Hawley's storytelling talents are expanding, and this Fargo Season 3 is a dense and intense tale of murder and miscommunication, steeped in hilarious small town idealism.

Ewan McGregor positively shines as brothers Emmitt and Ray Stussy, if the word "shines" can be applied to two characters headed down roads as dark as Fargo's. His "McGregor-ness" was ever-present in the accents, but I often lost sight of the actor within the makeup and performances themselves. Seen above, Ray is the younger of the two, but the roundness of his balding head and his growing belly make him appear older. He's currently a parole officer who hasn't had much of a problem bringing parolees into his personal life, particularly Mary Elizabeth Winstead's Nikki Swango. There's a lot of good in Ray somewhere underneath the pent up aggression against his brother, whom Ray feels is responsible for the bad hand he was dealt, but it won't be easy for him to make that goodness visible.

Emmitt is the far more successful of the pair, having built up a modest real estate empire that earned him the nickname "The Parking Lot King of Minnesota," which affords him and wife Stella (Linda Kash) a good life. Set in 2010, Fargo Season 3 kicks off with the elder denying his younger sibling a financial loan, because even though Emmitt holds a certain amount of empathy for Ray and his constant troubles, Emmitt's decision-making is guided by his right hand man Sy Feltz, played by Michael Stahlberg, one of the most dependably fantastic actors in Hollywood. Sy's protective hold over Emmitt borders on buffoonish, in an enjoyable sense, but there's a legitimate loyalty there that will no doubt reach some dramatic heights as the [true] stories go on.

In one corner, we have Ray and Nikki, who embrace the almost charming goal of becoming professional bridge players. In need of some quick cash that couldn't be found with Emmitt, Ray tasks Scoot McNairy's uncomfortable stoner Maurice LeFay with a boneheaded ploy to get a quick payday, which opens up a deadly can of worms for potentially anyone the Stussy family comes into contact with. It isn't safe to think that Nikki is the lesser of two evils in this situation, either, and Mary Elizabeth Winstead nails whatever passive psychosis her character is feeding on.

In the other corner, Emmitt has just come out of his own financial troubles, but while money is no longer an issue, Emmitt and Sy's problems are really only just starting. Due to circumstances beyond his means, Emmitt takes on an unwanted business partner -- for lack of a better and more villainous description -- in the mysterious and sadistically cheery V.M. Varga, played by Harry Potter vet David Thewlis. By the time 2017 comes to a close, I bet people are still going to be talking about Thewlis' performance, as V.M. was unmistakably birthed in Fargo's universe and retains a deviousness that is charming but never without an air of foreboding.

V.M. is a man who seeks to exploit the humanity in others, and does not take well to the company of others. However, he often travels with two henchman. One is Yuri Gurka, a Ukranian whose ties with V.M. aren't immediately clear, and he's played by Croation actor and writer Goran Bogdan. The other is the earbuds-wearing Meemo, whose silence only breaks when he's breaking something. Meemo is played by Chinese-Canadian actor Andy Yu.

And it wouldn't be Fargo without the cops being involved, and this year, the good guys are being led by Eden Valley Police chief Gloria Burgle, played by The Leftovers standout Carrie Coon. A mother getting used to a post-divorce life, Gloria's normally unwavering resolve is tested when she crosses counties to investigate the bloody aftermath of a robbery gone wrong, and this one hits closer to home than her cases usually do. Though Gloria will probably get more chances at gee-golly humor as the season goes on, her arc is anchored more by dramatic undertones, and Coon quietly steals all the attention in every scene she's in, often with just a wistful stare or a resigned glare.

Other than dead bodies, the police force is getting enveloped into a larger department, with a newly arriving big boss in Shea Whigham's Sheriff Moe Dammik, a Philadelphia import whose personality is far rougher and gruffer than everyone around him. Another memorable officer is the talkative Winnie Lopez, played by Olivia Sandoval, and then there's the extremely hard-nosed IRS agent Larue Dollard, played by Hamish Linklater. Not even the non-speaking extras qualify as "weak links" here.

As it always goes with Noah Hawley's shows, Fargo Season 3 has a wide and well-formulated foundation that takes awhile to explain, even though only the vaguest of story elements are being discussed. Knowing little pays off where this series is concerned, and its anthology nature means no one is ever safe. This year's hairpin twists and turns can just as easily affect anyone and anything. But the people that will be affected most by this story are viewers, who can finally once again sit back and marvel at another thrilling season from one of TV's best dramas. With such an incredible cast -- seriously, the Emmys should just call itself the Fargos next year -- and a suspense-filled plot, you won't walk away from this one disappointed, I reckon.

Jason Blum’s Blumhouse Productions is one of those companies that specializes in a particular genre. In this case, we're talking about low-budget horror. Their upcoming The Keeping Hours sounds like it’s right in their wheelhouse. It’s about two parents whose lives fall apart when their son dies in a car accident. The catch is, this one is also going to be a romance.

According to the folks over at the The Hollywood Reporter, Lee Pace and Carrie Coon have signed on to play the two lead roles in The Keeping Hours. It’s being called a "supernatural love story" and follows the two estranged parents of the dead child who have an opportunity to reconcile 10 years after a tragic accident. It’s not entirely clear how the "supernatural" part will play into the overall story. Whether their dead son is playing cupid, haunting them, or shows up as a brain-eating zombie, is not mentioned.

A studio known for horror making a love story sounds like a recipe for something truly bizarre. While love stories with supernatural elements are hardly new, the rest of them often take a fairly similar approach. Star-crossed lovers who can't be together because one of them is dead, a ghost, a zombie, from another time period, etc. In this case, our supernatural element is the son. Is he going to work to get his parents back together? Will he try to keep them apart because he's pissed off that one of them doesn't know how to drive?

Pace is most well known recently for his roles The Hobbit films, as well as playing Ronan the Accuser in Guardians of the Galaxy, though his character is a successful lawyer in the new film. I feel obligated to point out that if his role was as a successful pie-maker he could have solved this dead son issue with a single touch. Coon can be seen on HBO’s The Leftovers and recently played Ben Affleck’s sister in Gone Girl.

Seeing a love story coming from Blumhouse is more than a little surprising. The production company that built its name on Paranormal Activity has mostly followed it up with more of the same, including The Purge and Insidious franchises. There have, however, been a few non-horror films sprinkled in amongst their offerings, including the Academy Award nominated Whiplash. Another of the studio’s upcoming productions, Jem and the Holograms, isn’t supposed to be a horror movie, but based on the trailers we’re not so sure.

Whether playing a Marvel villain or a supernatural pie-maker, Pace is always entertaining, and Blumhouse has a track record of making movies that far surpass their minuscule budgets. It will be interesting to see what they do with their first romance.
