There have been a lot of opinions on Tom Cruise doing his own stunts. Many have praised the actor for his dedication to performing such major feats, while others have questioned whether he should be the one doing them. Regardless of how some might feel, it's hard to deny Cruise knows how to accomplish them and remain in one piece when he's done. Apparently, even amid stunts going wrong, Cruise can look at them through a humorous lens. For instance, he shared an on-brand response before crashing into a wall while filming Days of Thunder back in the day.

Days of Thunder remains a great auto-racing movie, and that's in great part due to director Tony Scott's reliance on practicality. By taking on the role of star racer Cole Trickle, Cruise apparently wanted to immerse himself in the world of racing, and did so in a big way. Cruise's co-star in the racing flick, Cary Elwes, recently shared with ET how before Cruise crashed into a wall, the risk-taking leading man shared the perfect two-word take:

Something I appreciate is a person who can find humor in a terrifying situation, and that totally tracks for Cruise. Of course, I'm just glad this story doesn't end with any major injuries for the actor. This story just furthers the notion that Cruise can be just as self-deprecating as he can be fearless.

Of course, even though Tom Cruise is a total pro at performing stunts, it doesn’t mean he never gets hurt as a result. When he did "ferocious” boxing stuntwork for Far and Away, he got hit in the ribs a lot due to all of those jabs and was in a lot of pain for a week and a half. Of course, production on the Mission: Impossible movies also resulted in Cruise injuring himself over the years. For instance, when making the movie, Cruise broke his foot while filming the free-climbing opening sequence and kept on going for that scene to be perfect.

Of course, Cruise also broke his ankle on Mission: Impossible—Fallout after attempting to jump from rooftop to rooftop. Yet the Hollywood icon still performed his scene as planned and even joked about the incident later, calling the London jump sequence “the easy one.” Clearly, the adrenaline-seeking actor knows how to fight through the pain, and his ability to laugh about it is really something.

Years after crashing into that wall, Tom Cruise may be in a position to play Cole again. It's been known for a while now that a Days of Thunder sequel could happen, and that's an exciting prospect. Of course, if the sequel does move forward, I'd say the crew may need to reinforce a few walls in case a certain Golden Globe winner hits them at full speed. In the meantime, stream the original 1990 film using a Paramount+ subscription.

While the cast and crew of The Princess Bride were making the film, they may not have had an inkling of just how popular it would eventually become. Rob Reiner's classic film has since become a classic with what feels like an endless list of quotable lines. To this day, Cary Elwes is still cited for his role as Westley and still discusses it. On that note, Elwes, recently recalled one priceless item from the set that he passed off to Reiner when the movie wrapped production.

In 1987's The Princess Bride, Elwes’ character is inseparable from his sword throughout the film. However, the actor ultimately parted with the cool accessory, giving it to Reiner. And Elwes had a great take on why he did that:

So, during his recent interview with The Wall Street Journal, Elwes said he was less interested in actual keepsakes and more so on he memories he'd made on set. With that, I can completely understand why Elwes gifted the prop to the movie’s valiant director. Now, I can't help but wonder what Reiner did with the sword!

Sweetly enough, it was love at first sight for Rob Reiner regarding Cary Elwes taking on the role of Westley. Per Vice, he had seen the actor in an early screening of 1986 costume drama Lady Jane and thought he was instantly perfect for the role. During the casting process, Elwes was out in Germany shooting a film called Maschenka, so Reiner actually the director flew all the way to Europe to meet with him.

Sadly, Rob Reiner died at the age of 78 alongside his wife, Michelle (who was 70), back in December. They were found stabbed to death in their home in Brentwood, California. Their son, Nick Reiner, was arrested hours later and has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder as part of what remains an active homicide investigation.

Cary Elwes was one of the first celebrities to react to the Reiners' deaths after the news broke. He posted a black and white photo of his and Rob's chairs on the set of The Princess Bride with the caption “No words…” Here it is below:

Cary Elwes also talked about Rob Reiner on the late director's birthday back in March. Aside from pointing out that Reiner would've been 79, Elwes also said at the time that it was “still hard to believe you’re gone,” and he also said he'd been “missing” the director “so much.” These sweet tributes and anecdotes (including the mention of the Westley's sword) further emphasize the bond that Elwes and Reiner forged while working together. And, with Reiner now gone, I can imagine Elwes holding onto those "keepsakes" even closer.

Months on, the Hollywood community continues to mourn the Reiners. Still, it's been lovely to see all the sweet tributes and hear the wonderful stories that have been shared about them, including the anecdote Martin Sheen recently shared. For many fans, The Princess Bride is a comfort movie that never gets old. Beloved for its hilarious cast of characters, fantastical epic of true love, and extremely quotable lines, this ‘80s classic hits even harder since the death of its director, Rob Reiner. The Stand By Me director and his wife, Michelle Reiner, were found dead in their home in December 2025, and their son, Nick, was arrested on murder charges shortly after. Reiner would have been 79 this week, and PB star Cary Elwes shared a sweet tribute to the director who gave him his breakout role.

Countless admirers and past collaborators posted tributes to the Misery director immediately following the news, but the loss has clearly remained raw for many of his friends, including Cary Elwes. The 63-year-old actor played the masked menace-turned-hero Westley in Reiner’s 1987 adaptation of The Princess Bride. The Twister actor took to Instagram this week to honor his late friend and mentor on his would be birthday, and the caption has me in my feels:

The swords and the broken heart? I’m going to cry. Anyone who has seen The Princess Bride knows Westley is a master swordsman but, at his core, he's a lover, not a fighter.

Reiner and Elwes first met on the set of Princess Bride, but that was only the start of a long friendship. Though their next film together wasn’t until 2015's Being Charlie, the two remained close. Elwes expressed in depth what the All In The Family icon meant to him in an Instagram post a few weeks after Reiner’s death and, before that, Elwes simply shared a BTS photo with a brief caption that felt understated but poingnant:

Elwes writes in one of his posts that The Princess Bride is about “love, loyalty, and sacrifice. Things that Rob held dear. Which is among the many reasons he was the perfect person to direct it.” All of Reiner’s work have these markers, and his filmography is full of movies that tug at your heartstrings. When Harry Met Sally will make any cynic believe in soulmates and fate, and Stand By Me might just make someone text that childhood friend they lost touch with.

While it is devastating to lose an iconic storyteller such as Reiner, it’s comforting to know that so many people such as Elwes cared for him, and will continue to look after his other children, Jake and Romy Reiner.

As for Rob Reiner’s legacy, it looks like his classic fantasy tale will remain untouched, as stars Cary Elwes and Robin Wright have confirmed there is no sequel on the horizon, and they don’t support a remake of the classic fantasy tale. I have to agree, it’s a movie that stands the test of time, and I can’t imagine rebooting it into a film franchise nearly 40 years later, especially without its esteemed director.

Gus Van Sant’s Dead Man's Wire is one of my early favorites on the 2026 movie schedule. The film tells the true story of Tony Kiritsis, a troubled man who, in February 1977, took his mortgage broker hostage in a situation that lasted 63 hours. Thankfully, no one was hurt or killed, but it makes for an incredibly tense movie, led by Bill Skarsgård, who plays Kiritsis. I got so engrossed in the story that I completely missed one of the biggest stars in the movie. Has this ever happened to you?

Wait A Minute, Isn’t Cary Elwes In This?

I was about halfway through the movie, and pretty much all of the characters had been introduced. The cast is fantastic, including Al Pacino, Colman Domingo, Kelly Lynch, Stranger Things’ Dacre Montgomery, and Industry’s Myha'la. It was about then that I thought to myself, “Didn’t I see Cary Elwes in the credits? How come he hasn’t shown up yet?” I then spent the next ten minutes of the movie looking for Elwes and trying to figure out how I missed him, or if I was crazy and he wasn’t even in the movie.

I’m a big fan of Elwes. Like every Gen Xer, The Princess Bride is a foundational movie for me. I must have watched the late Rob Reiner’s classic “storybook story” 100 times as a kid. Every line from Wesley/The Dread Pirate Roberts is burned into my brain. In high school, it was Days of Thunder, the Tony Scott-directed classic that I’ve also watched dozens of times. In college, The Chase, with Charlie Sheen and Kristy Swanson, became one of those bad movies that we loved to watch over and over.

The point is, I’ve watched Elwes on screen hundreds of times. How had I missed him??

It Turns Out, He Had Just Disappeared Into The Role

Elwes had been there almost the whole time. He had a thick, dark beard and a Midwest American accent, playing one of the cops trying to defuse the situation with Kiritsis. He’s one of the first detectives we’re introduced to, but it went completely over my head. I totally missed that it was Elwes. I mean that now in the best way possible, too.

Finally, once I settled on who I thought Elwes was playing, I still had to convince myself. I kept concentrating on the character, Detective Michael Grable, trying to figure out if I was right. I was, but it wasn’t until the credits rolled that I was sure. This is a testament to Elwes, who is so good in the movie, I didn’t recognize him! He, like all the actors in the film, save for maybe Pacino, is so deep into their character that the film has a raw realness to it. I wasn’t watching actors; I was watching the real people in this movie based on this true story.

January is always a bleak time at movie theaters, even if there is stuff to watch on streaming, so if you want something fun and interesting to see this weekend, check out Dead Man’s Wire. Maybe you’ll recognize Cary Elwes faster than I did.

Many in Hollywood and around the country are both shocked and in mourning following the tragic news that filmmaking icon Rob Reiner and his wife Michelle Singer Reiner were the victims of an apparent homicide on Sunday, December 14. Details still have yet to be fully confirmed as far as what exactly went down and why, but the husband and wife were found dead in their Brentwood home reportedly with their throats cut. At this time, police have not made any arrests, and no suspects have been identified.

According to ABC7, Curb Your Enthusiasm’s Larry David and When Harry Met Sally’s Billy Crystal both showed up in person at different times at the Reiners’ residence after the news broke. At this time, it doesn’t appear as if either comedy star has publicly commented on the incident, but plenty of other acting legends and A-listers have been paying tribute.

Jamie Lee Curtis And Christopher Guest (This Is Spinal Tap)

Christopher Guest most recently worked with Rob Reiner for the long-awaited rock-umentary Spinal Tap II: The End Continues, the sequel to one of the funniest comedies ever, (At the time, Reiner even talked to CinemaBlend about famed musicians’ reactions to the first film’s release.) To be expected, both Guest and wife Jamie Lee Curtis were taken aback by the news.

Kathy Bates (Misery)

Kathy Bates, currently the star of CBS' Matlock reboot, worked with the director while portraying one of her most famous characters: Annie Wilkes, the obsessive reader/kidnapper in Reiner's adaptation of Stephen King's Misery. Sharing her grief-filled statement about both deaths with NBC News, Bates said:

Cary Elwes (The Princess Bride)

Cary Elwes will forever be associated with the hilariousness of 1987's The Princess Bride, which Rob Reiner both produced and directed. The latter even took on the role of the grandfather for the celebrity-filled 2020 fan film Home Movie: The Princess Bride, which also featured his own father Carl Reiner in his final on-screen performance ahead of his death that same year. (Both Reiners separately starred in two of the greatest sitcoms of all time, All in the Family and The Dick Van Dyke Show, respectively,) and Elwes didn't share many words in his Instagram post, but he didn't really need them to make his point clear.

Jerry O'Connell (Stand By Me)

Another friend and past project co-star of Reiner's, Jerry O'Connell also kept his words nearly as limited as Elwes did, but they still packed quite the emotional punch. O'Connell's very first on-screen film role was for 1986's beloved coming-of-age drama Stand By Me, an adaptation of Stephen King's short story "The Body." So you know he probably has very strong memories about working with the director.

Corey Feldman (Stand By Me)

Jerry O'Connell's Stand By Me co-star Corey Feldman, who has publicly spoken out against filmmakers he worked with as a child actor, has long held Rob Reiner up as one of the good ones. His message on X reflects that sentiment, as he wrote:

Fellow director and '70s sitcom star Ron Howard also took to social media to share kind words for his longtime friend and colleague. While the two didn't seem to share the screen in anything, Howard did address the fact that Rob Reiner co-wrote the pilot episode of Happy Days along with Garry Marshall and Philip Mishkin. As Howard put it on X:

Eric Idle

Eric Idle, a founding member of the iconic Monty Python troupe, also co-created The Rutles, a Beatles-spoofing musical group that has released a handful of albums across the past 40 years. The Rutles were also a direct inspiration for all things Spinal Tap, and Idle revealed that he'd been speaking with the director just hours before he was killed. As Idle put it:

Mira Sorvino

Oscar winner Mira Sorvino is one of the many actors who only co-starred with Rob Reiner in a project but wasn’t ever directed in anything by him, which possibly made it an even easier relationship to thrive in. Sorvino and Reiner co-starred in Ryan Murphy’s Netflix drama Hollywood, and she clearly had positive experiences with him there.

When we talk about the best ‘80s movies, it’d be inconceivable for The Princess Bride not to come up. The 1987 comedy adventure is endlessly quotable, and a huge part of pop culture, even though it's been over 35 years since its release. When a movie is as successful as The Princess Bride, the Hollywood question that always comes up is whether it will get a remake, a sequel or be left alone. Robin Wright has just weighed in on that conversation.

These days, it feels like just about every classic is coming back around. But, could (or should) that happen for The Princess Bride? Here’s what Wright had to say:

When Robin Wright talked about the possibility of a sequel to AARP, she briefly commented on why she thinks a Princess Bride sequel will “never” happen. It sounds like she thinks the cast is too old at this point to embody their characters again. Wright herself is 59, Cary Elwes is 62, Mandy Patinkin is 72, Christopher Sarandon is 83 and Wallace Shawn is 81. André the Giant sadly died at the age of 46 back in 1993 due to congestive heart failure.

While Wright’s words suggest the time has long passed for another Princess Bride movie to happen, there are also a couple of points to make here. What would even be the point of bringing the whole cast back for another Princess Bride? What story needs to be told? And, considering the unique magic of the original film, it would likely seem simply impossible to recapture that magic as well.

The movie’s director Rob Reiner spoke about the topic to CBR while at San Diego Comic-Con, saying that he would never direct a sequel unless the writer William Goldman was on board, and he apparently tried to write a book called Buttercup’s Baby, and three chapters in he said it wasn’t “working” and decided he didn’t want to “go there.”

Cary Elwes shared his thoughts on more Princess Bride back in 2021, saying he felt it was “best left alone” while calling out Hollywood for making so many reboots and remakes so “they don’t have to spend as much on marketing”.

While a lot of famous movies do find a way into a reboot or remake, it definitely seems like the creatives and cast agree that The Princess Bride shouldn’t become a franchise. The movie is so iconic and fun that one time stormin’ the castle is enough.

There’s no denying the fact Twister's Dr. Jonas Miller, played by Cary Elwes, is a massive prick whenever he’s seen or heard in Twister, but did the secondary antagonist (the first being the actual tornadoes) in one of the best ‘90s movies actually have to die in that massive EF-5 tornado?

Like a lot of people getting ready for the release of Twisters on the 2024 movie schedule, I recently went back and watched this 1996 box office smash hit for the first time in years to prepare myself. While I didn’t come out of the experience with a hot take, like one of my colleagues arguing Bill Paxton’s character was the villain, I did start to contemplate his on-screen rival’s fate and if the death was necessary.

That being said, grab a belt or anything else to keep you in place because we’re about to go on a fast and furious trip down memory lane.

So, What Happens To Dr. Jonas Miller In Twister?

Unlike a lot of the other great disaster movies from over the years, there aren’t really a whole lot of deaths in Twister. In fact, outside of Jo’s dad dying in the opening prologue (a death that honestly could have been avoided), only two characters are killed by those raging tornadoes: Dr. Jonas Miller and his driver, Eddie (Zach Grenier). So, how did those two storm chasers bite the dust?

You may recall that right before Bill and Jo Harding drive into the fifth and final tornado of the movie and finally deploy Dorothy IV into the heart of the storm, they try to warn Jonas and his team that they should turn back because the funnel cloud was changing direction and heading right for them. Arrogant and stubborn, Jonas doesn’t listen to his driver’s pleas to be reasonable and turns off the radio. Moments later, Eddie is decapitated by debris and the vehicle is picked up by the tornado before hitting the ground with an epic explosion. RIP, you prideful S.O.B.

I'll Admit, Jonas Miller Is A Prick Throughout Twister

Okay, I’ll be the first to admit that Jonas is a prick throughout Twister and was more than deserving of the tussling he received at the hands of Bill early in the movie. Running folks off the road, stealing an “unrealized idea,” manipulating his rivals, having more pride than brains, the list goes on. Cary Elwes, who despite playing a hero and giving us great lines in The Princess Bride, is perfect as the arrogant and borderline sociopathic storm chaser and makes the rivalry between Jonas and Bill seem all the more real.

Though not quite one of the meanest ‘90s movie villains, Jonas is the perfect foil for Bill and Jo, representing everything they’re not and everything they stand against. I mean, a caravan of all-black trucks, vans, and mobile weather stations, not to mention corporate backers, makes Jonas not only a prick, but a prick who’s in the game for all the wrong reasons.

The Disaster Movie Gods Require A Blood Sacrifice, But It Could Have Been Someone Else

If you watch enough disaster movies, you’ll begin to realize that the disaster movie gods require a blood sacrifice before the end credits, and in the case of Twister, that was Dr. Jonas Miller. Sure, his explosive death in the final act of the 1996 summer blockbuster wasn’t out of left field and you could argue it was merited, but there are plenty of other characters whose deaths could have appeased the gods and allowed the arrogant prick to live another day, and maybe even help Jo and Bill, like Ice Man in Top Gun or Hangman in Top Gun: Maverick.

I’ve long been in the camp that thinks Aunt Meg (Lois Smith) could have been the one to die and inspire Jo and Bill to work through their differences and finally get Dorothy into the air. I mean, she had the great scene with Jo before they darted off and pretty much fulfilled her purpose with the inspiration for the revamped Dorothy. Still not sure why they didn’t pull the trigger. Maybe so Twister could be a movie where the dog lives and it still be believable.

And Yeah, Jonas Should Have Listened To Bill Harding

I will concede that Jonas kind of had it coming at the end there when he straight-up turned off his radio when Bill was trying to tell him to turn back. Like, come on, guy. I think your heart is in the right place and all, and I know how competitiveness can get the best of us at times, but there’s a literal EF-5 tornado just ahead and you can’t put aside your pride?

There’s no reason to believe that Bill wanted to do anything besides save his former friend and colleague from being sucked up into the biggest funnel cloud the state of Oklahoma had seen in years and then burnt up in one of the best explosions of 1996. Even Eddie, who was pretty much just as much of a prick up to that point, wasn’t really about that life.

However, Being A Jealous, Cocky, And Competitive Rival Shouldn't Be A Death Sentence

But come on, when did being a jealous, cocky, and competitive rival become a crime punishable by death? If that were the case, some of the best sports movies would have ended with opponents getting got, or Top Gun seeing Ice Man dying instead of Goose. Yeah, Jonas should have listened to reason, Bill, and even Eddie at the end there, but let’s not go around acting like some toxic character traits were enough for a death sentence.

You could make an argument for Jo dying, as Helen Hunt’s character constantly threw caution to the wind, disregarded other people’s wishes and desires, and risked her life and that of her entire team multiple times throughout the movie. She was competitive, she was cocky, and you can’t say she wasn’t jealous when Bill showed up with Dr. Melissa Reeves.

So, Did Dr. Jonas Miller Deserve To Die?!

While Dr. Jonas Miller was an insufferable prick, didn’t really listen to anyone, and pretty much stole Bill and Jo Harding’s idea, albeit “unrealized,” the question remains: did he deserve to die?

As much as I want to say that he had it coming and didn’t really stop himself from going up to the great plains in the sky, I honestly don’t think he deserved to die. It looked cool and made for a great scene, but the movie wouldn’t have been any worse if he had lived. In fact, I think it would have been a little better because he could have seen the fault in his ways. Plus, it wasn’t like he was a psychopath or anything like that. Put me in the “didn’t deserve to die" camp.

After Westley (Cary Elwes) is saved by Miracle Max, he, Inigo, and Fezzick strategize on how to best storm the castle to rescue Buttercup (Robin Wright). Since Westley isn't fully recovered, Fezzick tries to encourage him by celebrating him for moving his head. Westley knows they need more than a head jiggle to win the battle. 

Let me put it this way. Have you ever heard of Plato, Aristotle, Socrates? Morons - Vizzini

Vizzini (Wallace Shawn) is a wonderful character and a terrible man. Hired to start a war, he thinks he is much smarter than he actually is. Comparing yourself to three of the most important philosophers of Western thought is pure hubris. Of course, he would come to regret it, but not for long. 

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means. - Inigo

"Inconceivable" is Vizzini's favorite word, and he never misses an opportunity to use it. It's conceivable that he's not always using it correctly, as Inigo (Mandy Patankin) points out as they stand above the cliff waiting for the unidentified pursuer to reach them.

Anybody want a peanut? - Fezzick

One of the funniest moments in the whole movie comes as Ingio, Vezzini, and Fezzick (Andre The Giant) sail away from Florin with their captive, Buttercup, in tow. Fezzick has "a great gift of rhyme" and when Vizzini says "No more rhymes and I mean it," Fezzick responds with his gem. 

Have fun stormin' da castle. - Miracle Max

The character Miracle Max provided Billy Crystal with some of the best lines of his career, including one that has probably been quoted by people more often than any other in The Princess Bride. It works for so many occasions. 

You fell victim to one of the classic blunders - the most famous of which is "never get involved in a land war in Asia" - but only slightly less well-known is this: "Never go in against a Sicilian when death is on the line"! - Vizzini

Vizzini is extremely confident in his abilities. So much so that he assumes the battles of wits ended before it even began when Westley, as the Dread Pirate Roberts, challenged him to the dual. We all know how that worked out for the Sicilian. HA.

You mean, you'll put down your rock and I'll put down my sword, and we'll try and kill each other like civilized people? - Westley

After Westley bests Inigo with his sword, his next challenge is taking on the giant Fezzick. Vizzini wants Fezzick to take Westley out with a rock. Fezzick, the sweetheart that he is, doesn't think that is very fair, so he challenges Westley to a fistfight that the pirate still doesn't think is very fair. 

I'm not a witch, I'm your wife. But after what you just said, I'm not even sure I want to be that any more. - Valerie

Miracle Max's wife, Valerie (Carol Kane), is as funny a character as Max himself is. This list could just be lines from the two of them, if we're honest. Still, maybe the most memorable one is after Max rudely calls her a witch, even if that's kinda what she is, it's still not polite. She lets him know, too. 

Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die. - Inigo

This, without much debate, is the most iconic line in The Princess Bride. Maybe because Inigo repeats it six times in the movie, or maybe because revenge is the character's sole motivation. It's really because it's just such a great line and, after the fifth time he utters it, when Count Rugen (Christopher Guest) tells him to "stop saying that," we're all up and cheering. 

You've been mostly-dead all day. - Fezzick

Before they storm the castle, Westley is awoken from his death and wonders what is going on and when he doesn't feel well. Fezzick explains he's only been mostly dead, not all dead. 

Let me explain. No, there is too much. Let me sum up. Buttercup is marry Humperdinck in little less than half an hour. So all we have to do is get in, break up the wedding, steal the princess, make our escape... after I kill Count Rugen. - Inigo

While Westley is out of commission a lot happens. Inigo feels like he needs to explain, but with Buttercup getting married, there isn't much time. So he sums it all up nicely for Westley and the audience. 

You ARE the Brute Squad! - Miracle Max

Miracle Max isn't really interested in helping Inigo and Fezzick and threatens to call the Prince's brut squad. Fezzick tells him he's part of the squad and after Max eyes him up and down, he decides it's best to help them.

There is just something so funny about a pirate named after a part of a tuxedo. Cummerbund is a silly name for anyone, especially a pirate. If no one will surrender to the Dread Pirate Westley, surely no one will even listen to the Dread Pirate Cummerbund! 

And YOU: friendless, brainless, helpless, hopeless! Do you want me to send you back to where you were? Unemployed, in Greenland? - Vizzini

Vizzini really has no patience for anything or anyone. Without Fezzick, whom he yells at her, his plan to start a war between Florin and Guilder wouldn't be possible. Is Vizzini going to climb the Cliffs of Insanity by himself? He needs the giant. 

There's a big difference between mostly dead and all dead. Mostly dead is slightly alive. With all dead, well, with all dead there's usually only one thing you can do. Go through his pockets and look for loose change. - Miracle Max

It's a good thing that Inigo and Fezzick find Miracle Max. They don't even understand the difference between mostly dead and all dead. It's also lucky they found Westley in the Pit of Despair so quickly, otherwise they would just be going through his pockets as the credits rolled. 

Hold it, hold it. What is this? Are you trying to trick me? Is this a kissing book? - Grandson

When the grandpa (Peter Falk) comes over to read his grandson (Fred Savage) The Princess Bride, he tells him about all the exciting stuff in the book, but the unnamed grandson is still skeptical. When Westley and Buttercup kiss for the first time, the grandson has had enough and wonders just what kind of book this is.

My way's not very sportsman-like. - Fezzick

Fezzick, like Andre the Giant in real life, is just a sweet guy with a scary body. When he asks Vizzini what "his way" is in taking out the masked Westley, Vizzini tells Fezzick to hit him in the head with a rock. Fezzick, bless his heart, doesn't think highly of that idea. Fisticuffs it is! 

Mawwige is whut bwings us togevveh today. - The Impressive Clergyman

Really, the whole marriage (or Mawwige) ceremony as presented by "The Impressive Clergyman" is hilarious. It's not just the "Mawwige" line. The clergyman, played by legendary British comedian Peter Cook, struggles through the whole thing until he's forced to say "man and wife."

Ah, there you are. Inigo, I saw the Prince's stables, and there they were, four white horses. And I thought, there are four of us, if we ever find the lady. Hello lady! - Fezzick

One great example of just how thoughtful and sweet Fezzick the giant is comes at the end of the movie when he finds four horses for the team to ride – if they find the lady. Hello lady! 

Oh, my sweet Westley! What have I done? - Buttercup

Buttercup doesn't get many purely comedic moments in the movie. Her funniest line isn't really for the line itself, but for what happens immediately after it. When Buttercup pushes the masked Westley down the steep hill, only to hear him say that famous line "as you wish," she hurls herself down with him and all props to the stunt double for the way they took that hill, it's a hilarious bit of physicality as she bumps herself down the hill. 

You rush a miracle man, you get rotten miracles. - Miracle Max

Miracle Max is willing to help but on his own timetable. Inigo tries to explain they are in a hurry, as Buttercup is about to marry, but as Max explains, you can't rush a good miracle. And don't go swimming for a good hour, either. 

Yes, you're very smart. Shut up. - Grandpa

Peter Falk's grandfather character is very patient with his grandson, but even he has his limits. You have to figure that towards the end of the story, even he is tired and wants to wrap things up, so when the grandson says he "knew" that Buttercup wouldn't marry Humperdink, Grandpa tells him to shut up. It's one of the most underrated lines in the whole movie. 

I only dog paddle. - Fezzick

When Buttercup jumps into the water to escape her kidnappers, she doesn't count on the screeching eels. Inigo can't save her because he doesn't swim, and poor Fezzick only dog paddles. 

I wasn't nervous. Maybe I was a little bit concerned, but that's not the same thing. - Grandson

When Buttercup is in the water with the eels, the grandson is tightly clinching his blanket. This prompts the grandfather to explain that Buttercup will be fine. Keeping his cool, the grandson recovers and tells his grandfather he is actually nervous. 

EVERYBODY MOVE! - Fezzick

When Inigo and Fezzick are rushing to rescue Westley and Buttercup, they face a mob of peasants blocking their route. Luckily all it takes is one big scream to move from Fezzick to clear a path. 

Murdered by pirates is good... - Grandson

At first, the grandson is looking for any reason to like the story. A farm boy being murdered by pirates is a good start, apparently. At least it's not a kissing book. 

Humperdinck! Humperdinck! Humperdinck! - Valerie

Carol Kane matches Billy Crystal beat for beat as Miracle Max's wife Valerie. One of her best lines is all about her delivery, just repeating the prince's name over and over, driving Max crazy. It also spurs him to action. 

Am I going MAD, or did the word "think" escape your lips? You were not hired for your brains, you hippopotamic land mass. - Vizzini

No one delivers an insult like Wallace Shawn and, as Vizinni, he's full of them. Like laying into Fezzick after the giant dared to think about killing Buttercup. Fezzick is right, but Vizinni is really funny.

You surely are a meanie. - Fezzick

One line that really slips under the radar is when Fezzick tracks down a very drunk Inigo and tries to sober him up. Inigo is full of insults, and Fezzick lets him know as only he can, nicely. 

You must be that little Spanish brat I taught a lesson to all those years ago. You've been chasing me your whole life only to fail now? I think that's about the worst thing I've ever heard. How marvelous. - Count Rugen

Of all the cast members, Christopher Guest is one of the funniest writers and directors, but his role as Count Rugen is so understated (and great) that he doesn't have a lot of laugh-out-loud lines. The best exception is after he stabs Inigo, but before Inigo recovers. 

He's right on top of us. I wonder if he is using the same wind we are using. - Inigo

As the kidnappers make their way to the Cliffs of Insanity, Inigo can't help but think the mysterious boat behind them is following them. Vizinni may think it's just a local fisherman, but the audience (and Inigo) know better. 

A word, my lady. We are but poor, lost circus performers. Is there a village nearby? - Vizzini

When you have someone as diminutive as Wallace Shawn, and as huge as Andre The Giant, setting them for a line like this is just perfect. The visual is perfect, as is the setting. Everything about it, like the whole movie itself, is perfect. 

Somehow, there are people out there who are critical of The Princess Bride but after reading these quotes, which are just scratching the surface, it's hard to imagine why everyone doesn't love it. 

Sonic The Hedgehog fans are looking forward to the Knuckles miniseries on Paramount+, and looking at the cast, it isn't hard to see what. Idris Elba is a big name to attach to any series, but he's not the only heavy-hitter joining this adventure about Sonic's new red ally. So, who else is in tow for this spinoff show? 

Let's run down the list of all those involved in Knuckles, which follows the echidna warrior as he looks to adjust to a world unlike one he has ever known to that point. Of course, it doesn't take long until his new life on Earth is upended and he's on his back heels trying to protect himself and new friends from another threat. Let's dive in and see who all is in this series:

Idris Elba

As one might expect, Idris Elba will reprise his role of the iconic character Knuckles after debuting as him in Sonic the Hedgehog 2. The miniseries will pick up after Knuckles moves to Earth, and in addition to all trouble coming his way, will explore his life feeling out of sorts and adjusting to a different life. 

Adam Pally

Actor Adam Pally, an MCU actor who jumped into Sonic the Hedgehog from the very start, will co-star alongside Knuckles, reprising his role as Wade Whipple. Wade will be learning from Knuckles about being an echidna warrior, and I can only assume that Wade will also be passing along some knowledge about life on Earth to his new friend. 

Cary Elwes

You may know him from The Princess Bride or two of the other popular movies Cary Elwes says people consistently clock him for being in. Whatever the case may be, Elwes is making his debut in the Sonic universe by playing "Pistol" Pete Whipple. Whipple is a 27-time championship bowler and Wade's relative. 

Edi Patterson

The Righteous Gemstones' Edi Patterson will be introduced in Knuckles as Wanda Whipple, Wade's sister. Not a ton is revealed about her character at this time, but given her comedic chops, I can assume she'll be in the mix and around for the adventure at various points during the miniseries. 

Scott Mescudi

Scott Mescudi, likely known to more than a few by his rap name Kid Cudi, will come into the world of Knuckles as Agent Mason. Mason is an enforcer for "The Buyer," and based on what we've seen in the trailer, that means doing everything within his power to try and capture Knuckles for the villain. 

Stockard Channing

Stockard Channing has done everything from playing Betty in Grease to inadvertently making Will Smith fall in love, and now she's in Knuckles. Channing will play the role of matriarch in this adventure, meaning she'll be the mother of Wade Whipple, Wendy. There are not many details about the character beyond that, but it is great to see a well-seasoned veteran actress in the series. 

Julian Barratt

Julian Barratt, an English actor known for the comedy series The Mighty Boosh, as among other things, joins the cast of Knuckles as Jack Sinclair. All we really have on this character is a name so far, and given that he doesn't appear in the Sonic the Hedgehog games, there's no telling what he'll be up to until we get more information on the character. 

Ellie Taylor

Actress Ellie Taylor will join Knuckles as Agent Willoughby, another one of the agents working for "The Buyer." Viewers might recognize Taylor from her work in Ted Lasso, where she played Rebecca's best friend "Sassy." She'll also work to try to capture Knuckles in this series, all at The Buyer's request. 

Rory McCann

Rory McCann, who played the badass Hound in Game of Thrones, will come into Knuckles as the main villain known as "The Buyer." This villain is a mysterious former lackey of Dr. Robotnik who is hellbent on obtaining Knuckles' power for himself. I'm making an assumption here, but it's probably for the best that he doesn't get that power. 

Tika Sumpter

Tika Sumpter will make her return to the Sonic The Hedgehog franchise as Maddie Wachowski, the wife of James Marsden's Tom Wachowski. She's still doing her thing as the veterinarian of Green Hills, as well as looking after Sonic, Tails and Knuckles. It'll be great to see her back, as the connective tissue since Marsden's character is seemingly out of the story for this one. 

Ben Schwartz

The blue hedgehog is back for Knuckles, and so is the actor who voices him. Ben Schwartz will make an appearance as Sonic The Hedgehog in the series. Though he is the star of the franchise, it appears Sonic isn't too good to pop up in a series made for those with a Paramount+ subscription. 

Colleen O'Shaughnessey

If Sonic is back, then you have to know that Colleen O'Shaughnessey's Tails is going to get in on the action as well. The two-tailed sidekick will also play a part in Knuckles, though it's unclear how much either will be in the mix during this miniseries. 

Christopher Lloyd

Actor Christopher Lloyd, known for Back To The Future and many other major movies, will play an elder echidna named Pachacamac. This character appearing will apparently be quite a surprise for Knuckles, as it's believed that he perished alongside Longclaw, the original adopted mother of Sonic.  

Paul Scheer

Paul Scheer, an actor with some serious comedic chops that have served him well in everything from The League to Star Trek: Lower Decks, will appear in Knuckles. Unfortunately, we're still in the dark about what role he'll be playing at this time, though it's possible he'll lend his voice to an animated character. 

Rob Huebel

Rob Huebel, whom readers may know from shows like Children's Hospital and Human Giant, will also join Knuckles in an undisclosed role. While we know nothing about his role, I would once again speculate that he's playing an animated character, as it would be easier to keep the voice work under wraps than anything shot on a set. We will see, though!

Knuckles premieres on Paramount+ beginning Friday, April 26th. This looks like another upcoming live-action video game adaptation that gamers won't want to miss, especially if they grew up playing the Sega Genesis. 

History is about to come alive again on the 2024 movie schedule, as director Guy Ritchie’s The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare is an action/adventure film that looks to cover a part of World War II not widely discussed. With this covert ops movie drawing the likes of Argylle’s Henry Cavill and Reacher himself Alan Ritchson into the cast, things already sound like they’re going to be quite explosive on the big screen. 

As Ritchie seems to be in full on can’t stop/won’t stop mode at this phase in his career, those action notables aren’t the end to this film’s impressive roster. So it’s time to take a look at the rest of the crew ready to set Europe ablaze for king and country in this movie based on author Damien Lewis' book of the same name. 

Let's start with those two gents we’ve already mentioned before moving onto the rest of the recruits lined up to do the job. Trust me, you're going to be blown away by who else is part of this would-be wrecking crew.

Henry Cavill

For someone who’s been hotly tipped as one of the best prospects to become the new face of the James Bond movies, Henry Cavill has certainly stacked his plate with espionage-adjacent credits. Mentioned by name in the trailer for The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, Cavill is playing the on-screen version of special operations veteran Gus March-Phillipps.

Most notably, Cavill's previous teaming with Guy Ritchie on The Man From U.N.C.L.E speaks to that sort of endeavor. That's probably part of how the actor reunited with Ritchie to tackle a more grounded espionage caper. What’s more, the two are set for yet another movie, which, according to Deadline wrapped production in early 2024. Previously, Henry was also seen stretching his spy muscles as the titular lead to Matthew Vaughn’s Argylle.

Alan Ritchson

Actor Alan Ritchson looks like he’s a man that could double as a mountain. With an impressive stature, the man has been the star of Prime Video subscription holders’ screens thanks to his lead role in the Reacher series. According to the actor's Instagram, Ritchson is playing the cinematic version of real life World War II hero Anders Lassen.

Also seen testing his might against Vin Diesel in Fast X, as well as playing a major role in the DC Comics series Titans, Ritchson is now heading to the front to do some damage. You can practically hear the witty repartee between Alan Ritchson and Henry Cavill, but there are plenty of other conversation partners waiting to take a crack as you'll see in the rest of the cast assembled.

Eiza González

Another veteran of the Fast Saga universe, Eiza González’s Hobbs and Shaw character is still waiting to resurface within the vast continuum of figures hiding in those particular shadows. But keeping her busy in the meantime is her unknown character in this new Guy Ritchie action/history extravaganza.

González can also be seen on the 2024 TV schedule, as she’s also part of the cast for Netflix’s series adaptation of author Liu Cixin’s sci-fi novel series 3 Body Problem. Making things all the more exciting, Eiza has already re-teamed with Mr. Ritchie, as well as Henry Cavill! The Godzilla vs. Kong star can be seen soon in an untitled action movie that should be The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare director's next release.

Alex Pettyfer

As a once and former Alex Rider in Stormbreaker, actor Alex Pettyfer started his career as a cinematic spy right from frame one. Pettyfer would branch out through various genres, thanks to films like In Time and Magic Mike granting him the opportunity. More recently, the Beastly actor also made his directorial debut through the 2018 movie Back Roads. 

Hero Fiennes Tiffin

Playing the role of young Tom Marvolo Riddle/Voldemort in 2009’s Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, Hero Fiennes Tiffin made quite the impression, although most would best remember Tiffin as Hardin Scott, the male lead in the After series. The nephew of M himself, Ralph Fiennes, Hero’s casting in The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare is yet another interesting coincidence in the young actor’s career. 

Babs Olusanmokun 

If you’re a loyal viewer of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, then you’ve definitely seen Babs Olusanmokun before. Playing the role of the mysterious Dr. Joseph M’Benga on the Paramount+ exclusive series, his ship physician character helps keep the Enterprise running at full steam. But outside of that particular role, Olusanmokun is also a veteran Guy Ritchie performer, as he was featured in the Jason Statham revenge thriller Wrath of Man. 

Henrique Zaga

Also credited as Henry Zaga, this Brazilian actor might best be known as Roberto da Costa/Sunspot, one of the Marvel-adjacent characters featured in the infamously postponed The New Mutants. On top of those credits, Zaga has also made a name for himself in the streaming world, as part of the casts to Netflix’s 13 Reasons Why and Apple TV+’s The Crowded Room. 

Til Schweiger

Actor Til Schweiger’s experience in World War II filmmaking is perhaps one of the most notable in this entire cast list. That’s not knocking anyone else present in The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare’s lineup, but when you have something like Inglourious Basterds’ Hugo Stigliz on your resume, that’s kind of a huge calling card. Schweiger's work in espionage pictures can also be seen in his role of The Watchmaker, a part in one of the best action movies in recent years: Charlize Theron’s Atomic Blonde.

Henry Golding

Another previous member of the Guy Ritchie company, Henry Golding was last seen working with the director on the 2020 crime comedy The Gentleman. Keeping his action credentials sharp through pictures like the G.I. Joe spin-off Snake Eyes, Golding’s spot on the Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare roster further bolsters the combat cred present among the cast. Henry has also been cast in The Old Guard 2, joining action vets Charlize Theron and Uma Thurman for that Netflix-bound sequel.

Cary Elwes

Re-teaming after their previous work on Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre, Cary Elwes and Guy Ritchie are back at it again with The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare. A legendary actor who’s held landmark roles in projects ranging from The Princess Bride to Saw, Elwes has been keeping his espionage skills up to date thanks to his recent part in the Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning cast. 

That’s a lot of people to get to know in what seems like a short time, but don’t worry. The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare is slated to hit theaters on April 19th, so you have plenty of time to prepare. Though you should keep an eye on this cast list, as any major additions to the roster will be reported as they happen. 

Sonic the Hedgehog has been a beloved video game franchise for more than three decades, but the last several years have seen the super speedy title character achieving cinematic fame as well. Both 2020’s Sonic the Hedgehog and 2022’s Sonic the Hedgehog 2 performed critically and commercially well, and along with Sonic the Hedgehog 3 coming, there’s also a Knuckles spinoff series being made for Paramount+ subscribers. Now more castings for this show has been announced, with actors like Christopher Lloyd and Cary Elwes set to appear opposite Idris Elba’s version of the red powerhouse.

In addition to the respective alums of Back to the Future and The Princess Bride coming aboard, Deadline reports that Stockard Channing, Paul Scheer and Rob Huebel have boarded Knuckles. As noted already, Elba is already set to vocally reprise the title character, who will be training Adam Pally’s Wade, the comical Green Hills deputy sheriff who was present in the first two Sonic the Hedgehog movies. The show’s recurring cast cast members include Edi Patterson, Julian Barratt, Scott Mescudi, Ellie Taylor; and Rory McCann and Tina Sumpter are set as guest stars, with the latter reprising Maddie, the wife of James Marsden’s Tom Wachowski.

Unfortunately, no character details were provided for any of the five newcomers, so we have no idea how they’ll fit into this new adventure for Knuckles and Wade. Given that the Knuckles show will be chiefly set on Earth, we can safely presume that most of these actors will be playing human characters. However, I can’t help wondering if Lloyd, Elwes or any of the others might be lending their voices rather than appearing on camera. After all, while Jim Carrey’s Dr. Robotnik was the main antagonist in the previous movies, there’s no shortage of villains from this franchise who hail from other worlds, so maybe one of them will be a source of trouble, if not the main source, in Knuckles.

As far as Christopher Lloyd and Cary Elwes are specifically concerned, this news comes a few months after the former guest-starred on The Mandalorian (which led to Lloyd throwing out a Back to the Future reference while thanking fans), while the latter has already been seen this year in Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre, Blackberry,  and Sweetwater, and will be back in the coming months for Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One and Rebel Moon. Behind the scenes, talent from the Sonic the Hedgehog movies like director Jeff Fowler, writer John Whittington and producer Neal H. Moritz are attached to Knuckles, and Idris Elba is executive producing in addition to carrying out his voicing duties.

Knuckles is set to hit Paramount+ sometime later this year, and Sonic the Hedgehog 3 will follow on December 20, 2024. For now, you can look through the best Paramount+ shows and use the 2023 TV schedule to plan what to watch in the coming months.

If there was a Mt. Rushmore created to honor the heroes of the all-time greatest spy movies, I think it would be unanimously agreed that it should include Matt Damon’s title hero from the Jason Bourne movies, Tom Cruise as Ethan Hunt from the Mission: Impossible movies, and one of the James Bond actors (which one of them it should be is up to you to decide). For my choice of the fourth head, I would like to submit Jason Statham as Orson Fortune in Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre.

It may seem a little early to give such an honor to the main hero of this new 2023 movie (which just came out in theaters today), but once you see how fun co-writer and director Guy Ritchie’s old school espionage thriller is, you might find yourself agreeing with me. Of course, Statham’s character is just one reason why the film is so irresistibly entertaining. To get a clear understanding of the other reasons, you could ether check out the official trailer or stick around and take a look at the rest of the Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre cast, starting with the title role.

Jason Statham (Orson Fortune)

Highly skilled (and very picky) special operative Orson Fortune is only the latest character in a Guy Ritchie movie that Jason Statham has played, having launched his acting career at the same time that the filmmaker launched his directing career with Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels in 1998. The British duo would reunite again for 2002’s Snatch, 2008’s Revolver, the earnest revenge thriller Wrath of Man in 2021, and this film, most recently.

Statham would also earn a storied action star reputation outside of his collaborations with Ritchie as a main player in a few franchises — including the Transporter movies (until bailing on the fourth film), the Expendables movies as Lee Christmas, the Fast and Furious movies (including his own spin-off with Dwayne Johnson’s Hobbs) as Deckard Shaw, and creature feature The Meg, which is getting a sequel in 2023. He also appeared in one of the last John Carpenter movies (Ghosts of Mars), played a good bad guy in Cellular, had a memorable cameo in Collateral, and poked fun at the spy genre in 2015’s aptly titled, Spy.

Aubrey Plaza (Sarah Fidel)

As the sharp-tongued and vivacious expert in hacking (among other things) Sarah Fidel, we have Aubrey Plaza, whose charming, dry wit that she brings to the film is what made her an MVP in the Parks and Recreation cast as April Ludgate. She has also stolen the show or led it wonderfully in comedy movies like Funny People, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates, and Hulu’s Happiest Season.

Plaza has also been known to show her more serious side, such as when she played the homicidal Cat Adams on Criminal Minds, played a mental patient on FX’s Marvel-inspired series Legion, starred in the 2019 Child’s Play remake, and played the title role of Emily the Criminal, which she also produced. This is just the latest instance of her channeling her more serious and more comedic sensibilities in the same project, following the likes of Safety Not Guaranteed, the darkly comic, romantic horror movie, Life After Beth, and HBO’s The White Lotus Season 2 in 2022.

Josh Hartnett (Danny Francesco)

In order to get close to a target, Orson and Sarah’s crew enlist the help of movie star Danny Francesco, who is played by Statham’s fellow Wrath of Man cast member, Josh Hartnett, who made his debut in one of the more underrated Halloween movies, Halloween H20: 20 Years Later, in 1998 — the same year he appeared in another cult favorite horror flick, The Faculty. He would later return to the genre by leading 2007’s grisly vampire movie 30 Days of Night, playing Ethan Chandler on Showtime’s Penny Dreadful, and joining the upcoming sixth season of Black Mirror.

In between then, he starred in acclaimed coming-of-age dramas like The Virgin Suicides and the Shakespeare-inspired O, fact-based war movies like Pearl Harbor and Black Hawk Down, and worked with Bruce Willis in the Sin City cast and in 2006’s Lucky Number Slevin. More recently, he played himself on Quibi’s Die Hart, starred in the 2021 Neo-western movie Ida Red, and will star in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer cast as Ernest Lawrence.

Cary Elwes (Nathan Jasmine)

Nathan Jasmine — the one calling the shots (or struggling to do so) for Orson and Sarah’s crew — is just one of two spy movie characters that Aubrey Plaza’s Best Sellers co-star, Cary Elwes, is playing in 2023, as he is also in the Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One cast, which will mark his second collaboration with Tom Cruise after 1990’s Days of Thunder. Of course, he is still best known for his breakout role in 1987’s The Princess Bride cast as Westley, which led to more fantasy/medieval adventure movies like the criminally underrated ‘90s classic, Robin Hood: Men in Tights (in which he played the title role), the animated Quest for Camelot, and 2004’s Ella Enchanted with Anne Hathaway.

The British actor has also led an impressively versatile career that includes powerful period dramas like Glory, fun modern comedies like Liar Liar, blockbuster disaster flicks like Twister, and quite a few horror movies — most notably the Saw movies as Dr. Lawrence Gordon. Elwes was also on an episode of Seinfeld, worked with Steven Spielberg on 2011’s The Adventure  of Tintin, and, in its third season, joined the Stranger Things cast.

Bugzy Malone (J.J.)

As the fourth member of Orson’s crew — the sharp-shooting J.J. — we have Bugzy Malone, who rose to fame in the U.K. as a rap music artist known for hits like “Out of Nowhere” and “Beauty and the Beast.” Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre is, actually, only his second film credit so far. In fact, Ritchie previously directed Malone (whose real name is Aaron Davis) in his feature-film debut, when he appeared in the filmmaker’s acclaimed return to British crime thrillers, The Gentlemen, in 2020.

Hugh Grant (Greg Simmonds)

Playing billionaire arms dealer — and Number One fan of Danny Francesco — Greg Simmonds is Bugzy Malone’s The Gentlemen co-star, Hugh Grant, who first worked with Ritchie in the filmmaker’s first try at espionage thrillers, The Man from U.N.C.L.E., in 2015. Before then, his main claim to fame was romantic-comedies — such as Four Weddings and a Funeral, Notting Hill, Love Actually, and the Bridget Jones movies, to name a few.

However, Grant has also been known to branch out into more challenging and versatile roles, too, such as his multiple parts in Cloud Atlas, the main villain of Paddington 2, U.K. politician Jeremy Thorpe in the miniseries A Very British Scandal, or the voice of the Captain in 2012’s The Pirates! Band of Misfits. More recently, he appeared opposite Nicole Kidman in HBO’s The Undoing, appeared as Benoit Blanc’s husband in Netflix’s Glass Onion, and joined the Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves cast for the upcoming adventure epic.

With a title like the one this film boasts — which includes a name-check for the central hero and an exotic phrase following a colon — I cannot help but wonder if it is Ritchie’s intention to launch a new franchise of spy thrillers with this release. If so, I certainly hope the goal proves successful because the chemistry between the Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre cast members is strong enough to warrant another adventure, in my opinion.

The Princess Bride is one of the best romantic comedies of all time. However, according to the movie's star Cary Elwes, it's not even in the top two roles most fans recognize him from. The actor says whenever fans approach him in the real world, it's to express their love of his performance in two different types of movies. And according to the star, there aren't many crossover fans between the two.

Cary Elwes told Empire Magazine (via ComicBook.com) although The Princess Bride is a beloved classic, it's a combination of his time in the horror movies franchise Saw and Mel Brooks' comedy Robin Hood: Men in Tights which fans most recognize him from. The A Castle for Christmas star told the publication:

I'll admit it's not the two roles I would have imagined the actor is most recognized for. I still think of him as Lord Arthur Holmwood in the Francis Ford Coppola-directed Bram's Stoker's Dracula, but I suppose that's just me.

While now considered a classic comedy by some, Robin Hood: Men in Tights was mainly panned upon release and opened at number 6 at the box office. Roger Ebert, the legendary film critic with the Chicago Sun-Times, went as far as to name it one of the worst movies released in 1993. Still the movie has some big laughs, and it is worth checking out if only to see a young Dave Chappelle and for Elwes' wonderful English accent. Hey, some Robin Hoods can't even pull that off--no offense Kevin Costner.

Saw (2004) sees Elwes play Dr. Lawrence Gordon, a doctor who wakes up and finds himself chained to a dingy and abandoned bathroom across the room from a photographer named Adam, who are both forced to play a deranged game. The movie was a box office smash that launched the careers of first-time director James Wan, writer/actor Leigh Whannell. It also ushered in the era of torture porn horror cinema that dominated the early 2000s. After nine sequels, the series is still going strong, with Saw X's release right around the corner, and though Elwes only appears in two of the flicks, he had a significant part to play in the series' longevity. Horror fans can be incredibly loyal, so it's no wonder the actor is still approached about this movie. 

No matter what role you remember Cary Elwes from, and there are so many good ones to choose from, we can all agree he's an actor worthy of our attention. Lucky for us fellow Elwes fans, the actor has been cast in Zack Snyder's upcoming Netflix release Rebel Moon, which recently celebrated the start of filming. And he will be featured in the forthcoming Mission: Impossible 7 alongside adrenaline junky Tom Cruise.

Following his time in the DC Extended Universe helming Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and his version of Justice League (not to be confused with Joss Whedon’s theatrical version),  Zack Snyder made the jump to Netflix, first directing the zombie heist movie Army of the Dead for the platform. In addition to helping craft the prequel Army of Thieves, Snyder will helm the direct sequel Planet of the Dead, but the filmmaker isn’t just delivering tales involving the undead to Netflix subscribers. He also has a sci-fi epic out called Rebel Moon.

Originally envisioned as a Star Wars movie that Zack Snyder pitched to Lucasfilm prior to the company being purchased by Disney, Rebel Moon sees a peaceful colony at the edge of the galaxy called Veldt being threatened by the armies of the tyrannical Regent Balisarius, leader of the Mother World. In response, the colony’s citizens task a young woman with a mysterious past to recruit warriors from nearby planets to help them take a stand against Balisarius and his forces. Among the things we know about Rebel Moon is that the tale, which Snyder co-wrote with Shay Hatten and Kurt Johnstad, has been split into two movies shot back-to-back. 

An impressive collection of actors has been assembled for this story, including Sons of Anarchy’s Charlie Hunnam and Justice League’s Ray Fisher. But before we get to them, let’s talk about who’s playing the main protagonist.

Sofia Boutella

The enigmatic woman in Rebel Moon who’s seeking warriors to help protect Veldt, her adopted homeworld, is named Kora, and she's a deserter of the Imperium. Kora will be played by Sofia Boutella, who made a big splash in the mid-2010s starring in blockbusters like Kingsman: The Secret Service, Star Trek Beyond, The Mummy and Atomic Blonde. In more recent years, Boutella has appeared in Prisoners of the Ghostland, Settlers, SAS Rogue Heroes and the “The Viewing” episode of Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities, which also streams on Netflix. Since Kora is Rebel Moon’s main protagonist, it goes without saying she didn't die, so we'll see more of her in Rebel Moon Part 2.

Charlie Hunnam

As indicated earlier, Charlie Hunnam collected a lot of fans from his time playing Jax Teller in the FX series Sons of Anarchy, and he jumped back into the TV realm in 2022 to lead Shantaram, which can be streamed with an Apple TV+ subscription. Film-wise, Hunnam’s credits include Children of Men, Pacific Rim, Crimson Peak, King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, Triple Frontier and The Gentlemen. The actor appears in Rebel Moon as Kai, a mercenary who pilots the Tawau-Class freighter, which is "invaluable" to Kora's quest, although there proves to be more to him than meets the eye.

Ray Fisher

It’s not exaggerating to say that Zack Snyder launched Ray Fisher’s film career, as the actor’s first cinematic credit was cameoing in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice as Victor Stone, a.k.a. Cyborg. Fisher then made his full debut as Cyborg in Justice League, and in addition to Zack Snyder’s Justice League showing off his original performance as the cybernetic superhero, the actor also came back to shoot new footage for the four-hour cut. Fisher had been set to reprise Cyborg in The Flash, but he was written out after he refused to work on any project involving then-DC Films president Walter Hamada. Post-DCEU, Fisher has starred in True Detective Season 3 and the ABC limited series Women of the Movement, and he's since re-teamed with Snyder on Rebel Moon, where he's played Darrian Bloodaxe, an insurgent who's been targeting the Imperium with guerilla attacks.

Ed Skrein

The powerful Regent Balisarius is the source of conflict in Rebel Moon’s story, and Ed Skrein will appear as his right-hand man, Admiral Atticus Noble, a nefarious Imperium enforcer and commandant of the space cruiser called The King's Gaze. Skrein is no stranger to playing villains, as evidenced by his work in Deadpool and Alita: Battle Angel. You may also recognize him from If Beale Street Could Talk, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, Midway and Naked Singularity, as well as being the first Daario Naharis on Game of Thrones. As revealed in Rebel Moon's surprise ending, Skrein will be back for Rebel Moon Part 2 despite initial appearances to the contrary.

Djimon Hounsou

Although Rebel Moon marks the first time that Djimon Hounsou and Zack Snyder have worked together, like Ray Fisher, Hounsou has some DCEU experience under his belt from playing The Wizard in Shazam!, Black Adam and the upcoming Shazam! Fury of the Gods, as well as voicing King Ricou in Aquaman. Hounsou also lent his talents to the MCU as Korath in Guardians of the Galaxy and Captain Marvel, and his other notable credits include Amistad, Gladiator, Blood Diamond, Constantine, Furious 7, A Quiet Place Part II and The King’s Man. In Rebel Moon, Hounsou plays General Titus; we got an intense portrait of the actor in character in May 2022, and it was later revealed that Titus is a "hardened gladiator" who once served the Imperium.

Anthony Hopkins

While we don't see Anthony Hopkins in Rebel Moon, we will hear him as the voice of Jimmy, “an impossibly sentient JC1435 mechanized battle robot and one-time defender of the slain King.” (Dustin Ceithamer physically portrays Jimmy.) Kora met Jimmy during her time on Veldt, where the robot surprisingly came to her aid during a tense conflict, then disappeared to parts unknown. Rebel Moon's extended cut will flesh out the character's backstory. Along with this movie, Hopkins’ recent credits include Thor: Ragnarok, The Father, The Son, Armageddon Time and HBO’s Westworld.

Jena Malone

Rebel Moon marks Jena Malone’s third collaboration with Zack Snyder, having previously played Rocket in Sucker Punch and Jenet Klyburn in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’s “Ultimate Edition.” Malone is also well known for playing Johanna Mason in the latter three Hunger Games movies, Hope Harlingen in Inherent Vice and Sage Ross in Nocturnal Animals. Along with Rebel Moon, where she plays a spider warrior named Harmada who's terrorizing the mining village of Daggus, Malone is part of the ensemble cast for Kevin Costner’s Western saga Horizon.

Cary Elwes

Although Cary Elwes is still arguably best known for starring as Westley/DreadPirate Roberts in The Princess Bride and Dr. Lawrence Gordon in the Saw movies, the man’s popped up in a fair amount of high-profile projects over the last several years. Stranger Things fans will remember him as Mayor Larry Kline in Season 3, he had a stint on the Amazon Prime Video as Gavin Hawk in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, he starred as Professor Gelson in the Black Christmas remake and also was paired with Tom Cruise in Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning. Elwes plays the Imperium king who was assassinated, allowing Balisarius to declare himself regent.

Corey Stoll

Superhero genre fans will recognize Corey Stoll as Darren Cross, a.k.a. Yellowjacket, in Ant-Man, and in 2021, he played supporting roles in The Many Saints of Newark and West Side Story. TV viewers, on the other hand, may have seen Stoll in shows like House of Cards, The Strain, Girls and Billions. Either way, Rebel Moon is the actor’s second time working on a Netflix project, having previously recurred in the first season of the One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest prequel Ratched. In Rebel Moon, he plays Sindri, a village chief on Veldt.

Cleopatra Coleman

After kicking off her acting career appearing in various Australian movies and TV shows, Cleopatra Coleman gained popularity stateside starring with Will Forte in The Last Man on Earth. Following that show’s conclusion, Coleman led the short-lived TV series White Famous with Jamie Foxx, appeared in the Netflix movie In the Shadow of the Moon and recurred in five episodes of Hulu’s Dopesick, among other projects. Rebel Moon is arguably her most blockbuster-y project yet; she plays Devra, Darrian Bloodaxe's sister who has similar powers as him and is recruited at the same time to Kora's cause.

Fra Fee

Although it was initially reported that Skrein was playing Regent Balisarius in Rebel Moon, it was later clarified that Fra Free was playing that character instead, making him the story's overarching antagonist since he's the one giving orders to Admiral Atticus Noble. In addition to boast a large number of impressive theatre credits, film fans might recognize Free for playing Courfeyrac in 2012’s Les Misérables or Hench in Amazon’s Cinderella, which came out in 2019. If you’re a Marvel Cinematic Universe fan though, you’ll certainly recognize him as Kazi from Disney+’s Hawkeye series. 

Stuart Martin

Although Rebel Moon is the first time Stuart Martin has been directed by Zack Snyder in a live-action, he is already affiliated with a franchise tied to the filmmaker. That’s because he appeared as Brad Cage, a.k.a. Alexis Broschini, in the previously-mentioned Army of Thieves, which was directed by its lead actor, Matthias Schweighöfer. Martin also starred in the entirety of the Jamestown series and has been playing Detective Inspector William Wellington in Miss Scarlet and The Duke. Additionally, Martin is voicing a role in Snyder’s upcoming animated series Twilight of the Gods. Martin stars in Rebel Moon as Den, a farmer/hunter on Veldt.

Michiel Huisman

Remember when I said that Ed Skrein was the first actor to play Daario Naharis in Game of Thrones: Well here’s a twist: the second Daario is appearing in Rebel Moon too! Aside from the HBO series, Michiel Huisman’s major TV credits include Treme, Nashville, Orphan Black, The Haunting of Hill House and The Flight Attendant Season 1. Moviegoers might remember him from the likes of World War Z, The Age of Adaline and Kate. Huisman has been cast in Rebel Moon as Gunnar, a farmer on Veldt who "knows little of the galaxy outside of his small, quiet corner of the galaxy," but agrees to accompany Kora on her mission.

Doona Bae

While the majority of Doona Bae's professional endeavors come from her home country of South Korea, as far as her English-speaking work goes, the actress has notably collaborated with The Wachowskis twice, on Cloud Atlas (playing multiple roles) and the Netflix series Sense8. Bae appears in Rebel Moon as Nemesis, "a cyborg sword master whose mechanical hands allow her to wield molten-metal weapons," so expect her to pose trouble for Kora and her allies.

Staz Nair

Yet another Game of Thrones veteran has been looped into Rebel Moon, with Staz Nair having recurred in Seasons 6-8 as Qhono. However, Nair is arguably better known for playing CatCo reporter William Dey in Supergirl’s final two seasons. Rebel Moon is Nair’s second time performing in a feature-length film, and he does so as Tarak, a "noble indentured servant" who shares a special bond with a flying creature known as a Bennu.

Alfonso Herrera

Although most of Alfonso Herrera’s work is in Spanish-language projects, but he has starred in a number of high-profile offerings from the United States. You may know him as Hernando Fuentes from Sense8, Father Tomas Ortega from the short-lived Exorcist TV series, Javier Jimenez in Queen of the South or Javi Elizondro from Ozark. Herrera also voiced Krypto the Superdog for the Latin American version of DC League of Super-Pets, but it’s safe to say that Rebel Moon is his biggest movie yet. He takes part in this sci-fi epic as Cassius, a warrior working for Atticus Noble.

E. Duffy

E. Duffy is a relative newcomer to the acting scene, with their prior credits being the short films Jeanne Alone, Sleepyhead, Lucky Me, Girlfriends and Acid Noir. Rebel Moon is their first time acting in a feature-length film; they playing Milius, a refugee who seeks justice for her home, which fell to Mother World, and does so by joining Darrian and Devra's resistance group.

Charlotte Maggi

Charlotte Maggi also has one of the lighter resumes of the Rebel Moon cast members, having previously appeared in the TV shows MaveriX and Summer Love. Maggi is reportedly playing a character named Sam, a farm girl on Veldt who befriends Jimmy and ends up being the catalyst for Kora to gather warriors to help her protect her community.

Sky Yang

Aside from a minor role in 2018’s Tomb Raider, most of you have likely seen Sky Yang either in the Irish TV series Holding or playing Ruben in two episodes of Paramount+’s Halo series. In Rebel Moon, he plays Aris, a Motherworld soldier who stands up to his comrades' brutality against Sam.

Rhian Rees

Next, we have Rhian Rees, who played Emma in five episodes of the short-lived series Disengaged and has also popped up in the likes of Halloween (the 2018 version), The Send-Off, Nope and the upcoming Damian Chazelle movie Babylon. She briefly appears in Rebel Moon as The Queen, i.e. the late wife to Cary Elwes' King.

Ray Porter

Though Ray Porter has been professionally acting for over 30 years, he gained a lot of fans from Zack Snyder’s camp when he was cast to play Darkseid in Zack Snyder’s Justice League, a role he obviously would have reprised had those Justice League sequels moved forward. For Rebel Moon, he played Hickman, a cruel farmer whom Tarak owed a debt. Porter’s other superhero media experience includes playing Brutus on the short-lived TV series Naomi and voicing additional characters on Teen Titans, and he’s also appeared on shows like Medium, Monk, Justified, Sons of Anarchy, Shameless and Modern Family.

Ingvar Sigurdsson

While the majority of Ingvar Sigurdsson’s credits hail from his native Iceland, the actor has accumulated some appearance in Hollywood productions, including K-19: The Widowmaker, Everest, Justice League (both versions), Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald and The Northman. In Rebel Moon, Sigurdsson plays Hagen, a friend of Kora’s, and it's looking like he'll be back for Part 2.

The first half of Rebel Moon, titled A Child of Fire, hit Netflix on December 22, and the second half, titled The Scargiver, will follow on April 19, 2024. Keep your eyes on CinemaBlend for more news about the follow-up movie and other additions to the franchise.

It is inconceivable to think that The Princess Bride has been around for over three decades. It was 35 years ago when director Rob Reiner and Academy Award-winning screenwriter William Goldman released this hilarious, thrilling, and romantic fairy tale adventure adapted from a book that Goldman, himself, also penned.

The real key to the enduring success of the 1987 film - which was cleverly parodied in  a PG-13 cut of Deadpool 2 - would have to be the remarkably talented members of the Princess Bride cast - including Cary Elwes as Westley and Robin Wright as Buttercup. We honor these legends with the slideshow below, which includes photos depicting them in character and in real-life in more recent years.

The Princess Bride is one of those movies that nearly everybody loves. Few are willing to go on record to say The Princess Bride isn’t great. A large part of the reason for the love be the film’s absolutely perfect casting. Most of the stars in The Princess Bride were not household names before the film, and in fact, the biggest star, in every sense, Andre the Giant, was the one with the least acting experience. Today marks what would have been Andre’s 76th birthday, and his co-star Carey Elwes is remembering his massive friend at this special time.

Carey Elwes took to Twitter yesterday, just before Andre’s birthday, to remember his friend, who passed away in 1993. He posed in front of a classic poster promoting Andre’s wrestling and included some very nice words for his old friend.

Wrestling fans around the world already knew Andre the Giant, but his character in The Princess Bride endeared him to millions of people who never saw him perform in the ring. In that film, Andre played a man who was incredibly strong, but had no desire to fight. Based on the words of Carey Elwes here, the man himself was as easy to fall in love with as the character.

Based on the things that many have said about Andre the Giant, he truly was just one of the nicest people you could meet. Perhaps because he was so physically intimidating, Andre balanced that with a personality that was much more approachable. You’ll be hard pressed to find anybody with a negative thing to say about Andre. Those in the wrestling world loved him, Dwayne Johnson has talked about what Andre meant to him, and those that worked with him on screen did as well. 

Andre was billed at over seven feet tall as a wrestler. He was born with an excessive amount of growth hormone, causing him to become incredibly big. In the man’s later years he was reportedly in constant pain due to the pressure that his size put on his body. Andre was known for imbibing massive amounts of alcohol as a way to manage his pain.

Andre died at the age of 46 due to congestive heart failure, which was likely exacerbated by his incredible size. His heart really was massive, but as Carey Elwes says here, it was filled with love, and the man clearly left a mark on his friends that will not be forgotten, even three decades later. 

There is one final thing in this picture that is worthy of note, which is that it shows us that Carey Elwes himself is doing well. Elwes was recently bitten by a rattlesnake which resulted in him being hospitalized. Based on this picture, he’s recovering well. 

Most famously the Westley to Robin Wright’s Buttercup, Cary Elwes shocked fans earlier this week when it was reported the actor was airlifted to a local hospital after being bit by a rattlesnake. Considering those snakes are known to be venomous, we were concerned about The Princess Bride star going down from Earth’s more silently lethal animals. But per the actor’s latest update, he is on the road to recovery. 

Cary Elwes took to Instagram Wednesday morning to share a photo of his bandaged left hand alongside a message thanking all concerned for their “outpouring of support.” Check it out: 

The 59-year-old actor appreciated all the “well wishes” he received, especially after he shared a gnarly photo of his snake bite just a couple days ago. Cary Elwes assured his followers that he is “doing much better” and looking forward to being left handed once again. 

On Monday, it was reported that Cary Elwes was rushed to Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center after he was working outside in his Malibu residence. Shortly after making headlines, Elwes took to his social media to show off a picture of his bite: 

It’s great to see the English actor was in luck and the bite did not prove to be deadly. Cary Elwes is no stranger to high-profile injuries given he had two on The Princess Bride. In his 2014 memoir about the making of the classic film, he shared that he had to get stitches after accidentally getting knocked out during a fight scene and suffered a broken toe while joyriding with Andre the Giant in his golf cart. 

Elwes has been married to his photographer wife Lisa Marie Kurbikoff since 2000, after they met in Malibu in 1997. They currently reside there alongside their 15-year-old daughter, Dominique Elwes. The actor has been working since the late ‘70s, but it will always be 1987’s The Princess Bride that made him truly beloved in Hollywood. And no, he’s not into a reboot being made – he thinks it’s best “left alone.”

After Cary Elwes recently starred alongside Brooke Shields in the Netflix holiday movie A Castle for Christmas, the actor is set to be in a couple high-profile projects. Elwes will join Tom Cruise in the next Mission: Impossible movie, which has wrapped filming and is set to be released next summer. The seventh Mission: Impossible movie will also star Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames, Rebecca Ferguson, Vanessa Kirby, Hayley Atwell and Pom Klementieff. 

Additionally, Elwes will be in Zack Snyder’s next movie following Justice League and Army of the Dead. It will be a science fiction epic in the vein of Star Wars called Rebel Moon. He was rushed to the hospital because of their venomous nature, but luckily seems to be recovering well. So much so that Elwes shared a photo of his gnarly injury on Twitter. Honestly, the Princess Bride’s pit of despair is looking like a vacation home right now. Because while Cary Elwes’ character Westley was tortured in that iconic setting from the movie, that seems like child’s play when compared to the rattlesnake bite that happened to him IRL. To quote another iconic ‘80s adventure movie “Snakes! Why does it always have to be snakes?”

The above image of Cary Elwes’ thumb is sure to turn the stomach of a few folks out there, as it really shows the damage that rattlesnake did to his digit. The coloring is obviously off as well, with the injury standing out like a sore thumb (or in this case, middle finger). But Elwes’ hopeful message is sure to be a relief to his generations of fans out there.

For those who don’t remember, the Pit of Despair sequences happen about halfway through the runtime of The Princess Bride. Westley is captured by Humperdinck and tortured by Count Rugen and his assistant. The machine takes years off his life, which somehow seems less terrifying than being bitten by a rattlesnake. Of course, his rattlesnake bite isn’t the first major injury that Cary Elwes has shared with the public. In his own book As You Wish: Inconceivable Tales from the Making of The Princess Bride, Elwes revealed that he was hurt and needed stitches while filming a fight scene for the beloved movie. He also broke a toe while riding the golf cart of Andre the Giant, which is obviously far less serious. While there was some recent talk about The Princess Bride being rebooted, Elwes has voiced his disapproval.

Hopefully Cary Elwes will be able to recover from this injury sooner rather than later, as he’s got some exciting projects coming down the line. He’s in the cast of Zack Snyder’s upcoming movie Rebel Moon, which recently celebrated the start of filming. Elwes can also be seen in the upcoming Mission: Impossible 7 alongside the one and only Tom Cruise.

Some scenarios have been serious like the Saw series or verged on comical like the lead in Robin Hood: Men in Tights. But his latest enemy was closer to home for the Princess Bride actor as he experienced an off-screen incident requiring him to be airlifted to a hospital.

According to TMZ, a close source of the Ella Enchanted actor was allegedly bitten by a rattlesnake while working outside of his Malibu residence on April 23. When the incident occurred, it was unclear where the snake had bitten him. As the snake is considered poisonous, the source alleged it was server enough to call for the actor to be airlifted to the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center for treatment. They claimed it was the actor’s inner circle who wanted him to be seen by a doctor at the time. It was reported that the actor is making a full recovery at the medical facility after the accident.

With his family and friends allegedly encouraging him to seek medical attention, Elwes had proven more than once he is a trooper when it comes to accidents and injuries. In his 2014 memoir As You Wish: Inconceivable Tales from the Making of The Princess Bride, the actor revealed while filming the cult classic he needed stitches after accidentally getting knocked out during a fight scene. But that wasn’t the last on-set injury as he suffered a broken toe while joyriding in co-star Andre the Giant’s golf cart. Thankfully, he recovered from both injuries and went on to finish the fantasy romance film. Hopefully this recovery this time will be just as quick.

While Cary Elwes actor makes a full recovery, he was recently cast in Zack Snyder’s sci-fi epic Rebel Moon, which just began filming. He joined an already all-star, including Charlie Hunnam and Justice League’s Ray Fisher. So, hopefully, the film won’t recast the role and halt production to give Elwes time to heal. The film is expected to arrive on Netflix at some point.

In the meantime, viewers will get the chance to see him on the big screen soon as the Hollywood actor has a few movies coming to theaters in 2022. Things will go into overdrive in 2023 as he will make his Mission: Impossible debut in M: I 7 as seen in his wrap-up photo. So, there are so many opportunities for audiences to watch A Castle for Christmas actor over the next year. When it comes to making it in Hollywood, it’s all about taking small jobs or roles until you get that big break. Every star in entertainment has those stories – some more unusual than others. For instance, before scoring his big break with The Princess Bride, Cary Elwes spent many years working as a production assistant on huge blockbusters. One of the films he worked on was Christopher Reeves' Superman: The Movie back in the late '70s. Of course, Elwes was tasked with making sure everyone was taken care of. But there was one wild task the A Castle for Christmas star just recently remembered.

The Princess Bride alum worked as a PA for director Richard Donner on the beloved superhero classic. Working in that position on such a huge film seems like any fanboy’s dream, but there appeared to be some underlying tension on set. Amid this, a teenaged Cary Elwes was given the bizarre task of getting screen legend Marlon Brando to set on time. Elwes opened up to Telegraph (via Uproxx) about what Brando was like while he was shooting the film:

Having to wrangle a cinematic icon in seems like a major undertaking for a teenaged production assistant. But given the deal the Oscar winner's team had struck, he would’ve preferred to stay in his trailer. But it seems like Cary Elwes ace in the hole with the Oscar winner – food. In the same interview, Elwes recalled the On the Waterfront star was “in a much better mood” after being fed desserts. So food was apparently the late actor’s Kryptonite to get him on set.

Despite his legendary status in Hollywood, Marlon Brando was reportedly difficult to work with on Superman. It wasn’t just Richard Donner who lost his patience with, as OG Man of Steel Christopher Reeves had less than flattering words about the Streetcar Named Desire star. Reeves particularly called him out for not nurturing and mentoring up-and-coming actors. All in all, the Clark Kent actor seemed unimpressed with the screen legend’s attitude on the set.

Some production assistants may have internalized that experience turned away from Hollywood, but Cary Elwes seemed to gain some insight into set etiquette from dealing with Marlon Brando. And eventually, of course, Elwes went from being a PA to one of Hollywood’s lovable leading men. And the actor holds on to that status as he stars opposite Brooke Shields in Netflix’s A Castle for Christmas, which is currently streaming.

Netflix’s latest trending holiday original is A Castle For Christmas, a romantic comedy about a bestselling author who goes away to Scotland after her latest release brings in some bad press. The movie stars two legendary names, Brooke Shields and Cary Elwes, who just happen to be among actors who have written their own books prior to charming each other in the film. 

CinemaBlend had a chance to speak to Brooke Shields and Cary Elwes about the release, and I was curious how they may have related to Sophie’s experience. Sure, they’ve never blown up on The Drew Barrymore Show, but they surely relate to some of the stresses that come with putting their written word out into the world. Brooke Shields said this: 

Brooke Shields has written three non-fiction books about her own life and experiences over the years including 1985’s On Your Own, which gave advice to teens on various topics, 2005’s Down Came The Rain: My Journey Through Postpartum Depression and 2014’s There Was A Little Girl: The Real Story Of My Mother And Me. It’s not easy to lay everything on the page in the ways that she has, and she admits she gets nervous, but overall she tries her best to let it go. 

What’s funny is the misunderstanding she originally had about the “pub date.” Honestly, I think we should amend that name to mean both publish date and a night to go out and celebrate one’s accomplishments because that sounds like how it should be, doesn’t it?  Cary Elwes also shared his own experience with these words: 

Back in 2014, Cary Elwes published his first and only book thus far As You Wish: Inconceivable Tales From The Making of The Princess Bride. The actor is of course best known for playing Westley in the ‘80s classic. He decided to share his memories of the beloved film through the memoir. Elwes admit it was a rather lonely process, but in the end it was on a topic that fans are already interested in. 

In A Castle For Christmas, Brooke Shields’ Sophie is a best-selling author with a large fanbase who kills off a major character and recieves some backlash from fans. She decides to go off to Scotland, where she meets Cary Elwes’ Myles, the grumpy duke who owns a nearby castle. Brooke Shields is in a holiday Netflix movie, and The Princess Bride’s Westley, Cary Elwes, is along for the ride in A Castle For Christmas. The romantic comedy has Shields playing a successful novelist who goes away to the Scottish countryside while she awaits some bad press to blow over. Amidst the great pairing of two iconic actors as an unlikely duo, the movie also includes a cameo by an actor both Shields and Elwes couldn’t help but gush over. 

At the start of the movie, Brooke Shields’ Sophie is a guest on The Drew Barrymore Show. When Shields spoke to CinemaBlend, she shared what it was like to be on the talk show in character with Barrymore, who both grew up as child actors in Hollywood together:

In the scene, A Castle For Christmas sets up the anger brewing behind the surface for Sophie following her decision to kill off one of the fan-favorite characters in her book series. While she’s on The Drew Barrymore Show, Barrymore asks her some tough questions about the topic, leading Sophie to blow up on national television. Cary Elwes, pitched in his thoughts on Shields and Barrymore finally getting to work together for the scene: 

Brooke Shields and Drew Barrymore may be a decade apart in age, but they very much have rubbed elbows over the years, such as being seen posing together at events back in the ‘90s. They were certainly also both working on movies in the ‘80s into today. They both began starring in films at very young ages and had numerous high-profile moments in the spotlight. But funny enough, they had never shared the screen together until A Castle For Christmas. As Shields shared: 

When Shields appeared on The Drew Barrymore Show recently, Barrymore shared that the pair are friends who are always making plans together and calling each other up to make them. One of them just happened to be when Shields asked Barrymore if she wanted to be in the scene for A Castle For Christmas. 

As Cary Elwes pointed out, it is a moment of history to see Drew Barrymore and Brooke Shields together in the same scene. Both of them have created their own paths in Hollywood as women well into their 40s and 50s (which is not common, folks). It’s great to see they’ve stuck together and remained close over the years, and got to finally act together for the first time in A Castle For Christmas, now streaming on Netflix. 

Mission: Impossible 7’s road to release has been a rocky one, to say the least. Besides the notorious Tom Cruise blow-up, the film faced several shutdowns due to COVID-19. One of the COVID shutdowns had to do with director Christopher McQuarrie, according to M:I 7 star Cary Elwes. But that didn’t stop McQuarrie from finishing the latest installment. Elwes recently revealed what it was like for him to direct scenes after being contact traced.

The multiple COVID shutdowns put Mission: Impossible 7’s production in jeopardy. Eventually, the release date was pushed to 2022. But for Christopher McQuarrie, the show had to go on despite being at home. Cary Elwes witnessed his commitment to finishing the blockbuster firsthand. The Princess Bride actor gave The Hollywood Reporter some insight into how McQuarrie directed scenes while in self-quarantine.

Directing scenes from home is what you call commitment. Most directors would’ve had their assistant director or cinematographer take over in their absences, but Christopher McQuarrie wanted to see his vision through. Besides seeing the film through, the filmmaker probably felt the pressure from Paramount to finish the sequel. So he needed to make sure the film got in the can to meet its release date. Despite finishing the sequel, McQuarrie is a true filmmaker and would never want to do it again, according to Cary Elwes.

Cary Elwes’ words made the wait for Mission: Impossible 7 seem worth it. The anticipated sequel was over two years in the making after all those delays. Of course, Christopher McQuarrie wasn’t always directing from home as evident by some on-set snaps. M:I 7 star Tom Cruise has already been pushing for the film like the director despite the release being months away. Cruise pledged himself and the sequel to bringing back the theatrical experience. Both the actor and director seem committed to giving fans the film they deserve.

Hopefully, all of Christopher McQuarrie’s challenging work pays off when the film arrives. Moviegoers will finally get the chance to see Mission: Impossible 7 when it debuts in theaters on Sept. 30, 2022. Viewers should also be on the lookout for McQuarrie’s other Tom Cruise collaboration Top Gun: Maverick, which arrives in theaters on May 27, 2022.

A couple of years ago movie fans had a minor heart attack when there was reportedly some interest in the idea of remaking The Princess Bride. Even at the time it did not seem like there were any active plans to try and do this, but somebody somewhere apparently thought it was a good idea at the time. Cary Elwes made clear at the time that he didn’t like the idea, and he recently doubled down on that, though he admits he completely understands why a studio might be interested in doing the remake. 

Whatever else Cary Elwes does in his career, he will almost certainly be known for The Princess Bride before all else. His connection to the film likely makes him somewhat protective of it, and so, when the idea of a Princess Bride remake was brought up, he was certainly not excited. He recently told THR that his feelings on the topic have not changed. While he understands why a desire to remake the movie might exist, he feels that Princess Bride is in a unique class of movie that should be left alone. He explains... 

It’s not exactly news that movie studios hate to take risks. They’re spending hundreds of millions of dollars on film projects, and they want to have as much assurance as possible that those movies will give them a return on their investment. One of the major ways this is done is by using properties that people are already fans of, thus all the remakes, reboots, and adaptations that we see.

While The Princess Bride was anything but a box office smash at the time of its release, it is perhaps one of the most universally beloved films, maybe ever. It would be difficult to find a modern movie fan who has not seen it and who does not also love it. Difficult, though not impossible.

For the most part fans are ok with all the reboots, we even love some of them. And a good remake can exist alongside a good original, especially if the remake adds something to the original. But some movies certainly feel like there’s nothing that could be added, and many would likely agree that The Princess Bride is one of those.  

For some reason, it feels like Mission: Impossible 7 has been filming forever. Granted, time is a flat circle in these pandemic production days, and delays have caused Hollywood’s calendar to basically implode. But even taking all of that into consideration, Tom Cruise’s meltdown behind the scenes at a maskless crew member feels like it happened five years ago, instead of December of 2020. All of this is to say that Christopher McQuarrie continues to film on the next Mission: Impossible sequel, and co-star Cary Elwes, but he just shared this photo of himself and Cruise as a way of saying he has wrapped filming.

Cary Elwes will be a new addition to the Mission: Impossible ensemble, though he won’t be alone. It’s unclear what role the former The Princess Bride star is playing, because secrecy is a cloak that the Mission: Impossible franchise wears well. But we have picked up reports that in addition to Elwes, McQuarrie’s Mission: Impossible 7 has added names such as Esai Morales (playing, we believe, the film’s main villain), Rob Delaney, Pom Klementieff, Shea Whigham, and Hayley Atwell.

That’s a lot of people for Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) to try and take down. Unless some of them play allies. You never really know in the world of Mission: Impossible.

Filming on the next two Mission: Impossible movies have been fluid, and prone to adjustment. When the projects initially were announced, it was Christopher McQuarrie’s plan to film parts 7 and 8 back to back, suggesting that maybe there was a large enough story to bridge the two sequels. Adding all of those cast members made sense if the next two movies were about to expand the world and increase the stakes (after Mission: Impossible - Fallout, that would sound… impossible).

Over the years, the Mission: Impossible films have been adding faces who go on to become regulars. Simon Pegg probably had no clue he’d become Tom Cruise’s second mate when he signed on for Mission: Impossible III as a favor for his friend JJ Abrams. Ving Rhames has been around since the earliest days, while Alec Baldwin and Angela Bassett have become consistent mainstays. And Rebecca Ferguson has made herself a member of the Mission family since appearing in the outstanding Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation. I mean, this is how you make an entrance, and plant your flag.

The plan to film parts 7 and 8 back to back fell apart due to all of the production delays facing Paramount and Christopher McQuarrie. But Mission: Impossible 7 is back on track, with actors wrapping and Cruise testing the boundaries of gravity in all new death-defying stunts. We will be able to see how all of this plays out once the sequel reaches theaters on May 27, 2022. Fans of Tom Cruise’s adventures as Ethan Hunt in the Mission: Impossible franchise are in for a treat, as not only are Mission: Impossible 7 and Mission: Impossible 8 both on the way, they’ve been shooting back to back. As cameras continue to roll, we finally have some casting updates after months of not hearing about anyone new participating in one or both of these movies. Five new actors have been announced for 7 and 8, including a Deadpool 2 star.

Director and writer Christopher McQuarrie, who’s been part of the Mission: Impossible franchise since Ghost Protocol and has been steering the blockbuster ship since Rogue Nation, revealed on his Instagram page that Rob Delaney, Charles Parnell, Indira Varma, Mark Gatiss and Cary Elwes are all slated to appear in both Mission: Impossible 7 and Mission: Impossible 8. No details about who they’re playing were revealed, but they join a lineup of new faces that includes Hayley Atwell, Pom Klementieff, Shea Whigham and Esai Morales.

Rob Delaney is the Deadpool 2 alum of the bunch, having played the mustachioed Peter in Ryan Reynolds’ second outing as the Merc with the Mouth (X-Men Origins: Wolverine doesn’t count). Delaney’s other notable credits include Hobbs & Shaw, Bombshell, Tom & Jerry and the TV series Catastrophe, which he co-created with Sharon Horgan.

Charles Parnell already has some experience working with Tom Cruise from his time working on the upcoming Top Gun: Maverick, though it’s unclear how much screen time these two will share across the next two Mission: Impossible movies. You may also recognize Parnell from projects like Transformers: Age of Extinction, All My Children and The Last Ship, as well as voicing Nick Fury in the 2020 Avengers video game.

Indira Varma is no stranger to espionage-related stories, as she starred in the short-lived Human Target series. As far as big screen work goes, Varma has appeared in movies like Basic Instinct 2, Exodus: Gods and Kings and The One and Only Ivan, while her extensive TV resume includes Luther, Rome, Carnival Row, Game of Thrones and Disney+’s upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series.

Speaking of Game of Thrones, Mark Gatiss is another alum of the hit HBO series, where he played Tycho Nestoris. But perhaps you’re more familiar with Gatiss from his time as Mycroft on the Sherlock series (which he co-created), or know him for his various contributions to Doctor Who, which includes playing two different characters.

Finally, Cary Elwes needs no introduction to fans of The Princess Bride, where he played Westley/Dread Pirate Roberts. But if the Rob Reiner-directed movie isn’t your cup of tea, then you’ll likely remember Elwes from things like Robin Hood: Men in Tights, Saw, Glory, The X-Files and Psych.

Now that we’re caught up on all the new people joining Mission: Impossible 7 and Mission: Impossible 8, let’s go over the familiar faces. Tom Cruise’s Ethan Hunt will be joined by Ving Rhames’ Luther Stickell, Simon Pegg’s Benji Dunn, Rebecca Ferguson’s Ilsa Faust, Vanessa Kirby’s Alanna Mitsopolis, Frederick Schmidt’s Zola Mitsopolis, Angela Bassett’s Erika Sloane and Henry Czerny’s Eugene Kittridge, who hasn’t appeared since the first Mission: Impossible movie. So there’s an impressive lineup of on-camera talent assembled, but don’t be surprised if there are a few key castings still being kept secret.

Mission: Impossible 7 hits theaters on November 21, 2021 (and will be available on Paramount+ 45 days after its big screen debut), while Mission: Impossible 8 will arrive on November 4, 2022. Don’t forget to learn what else this year has in store with our lineup of upcoming 2021 movies.

At this point, it’s safe to say we’re all tired of the COVID-19 pandemic. It’s disrupted pretty much every facet of our lives and, unfortunately, it's difficult to say when things might be changing. That’s part of the reason why stars like Cary Elwes are using their influence to remind fans how important it is to practice social distancing and wear a mask. He even found a clever way to tie in one of The Princess Bride’s most famous lines in his most recent Twitter PSA.

On Friday, Cary Elwes tweeted out a clever, and all-too-timely, twist on one of the most iconic lines from The Princess Bride:

What made it even more funny is that his current Twitter avatar is of his Dread Pirate Roberts character wearing a mask. Even though he technically cribbed the line from Mandy Patinkin’s Inigo Montoya, he definitely got the point across. Cary Elwes even doubled down on the point of the tweet when one fan accused him of fear-mongering. “Hopefully,” he replied.

The Princess Bride star is far from the first to use social media to encourage fans to employ pandemic best practices. Over the past few months, celebrities have found a variety of creative, and often humorous ways, to express the importance of social distancing and wearing masks. It’s also given plenty of stars, like Independence Day’s Bill Pullman, an excuse to bring back some of their most memorable movie moments to remind fans to wear a mask. Given how much of an impact COVID-19 has had on the film industry, it’s easy to see why.

Though some film production has resumed, there’s still a long way to go before everything is back to normal. Right now, even if Hollywood can keep making movies, there’s no clear indication of when it will be safe for us to go back to theaters and actually, you know, see them.

Movies like Tenet and Mulan, which were supposed to help give us some semblance of the summer movie experience, have been pushed back indefinitely. Studios are increasingly relying on VOD options to give fans a chance to see movies like Bill & Ted Face the Music.

But the rationale behind promoting safety extends past Hollywood’s bottom line, too. Some celebrities, like Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson, contracted the virus early on and have since gone on to do their part to warn others about how serious it is -- and help find a cure. Even as social distancing has become the norm, actors like Bryan Cranston have revealed they’ve tested positive and urged fans to take the pandemic seriously.

Given all the uncertainty in Hollywood and beyond, Cary Elwes’ firm-but-funny reminder to wear a mask feels pretty on point.

With people still hunkering down in their homes, streaming services are making it a priority to provide top-notch content to keep them occupied, as they remain indoors. Disney+ has been at the forefront of this, having added a number of new titles in recent weeks. One film that’s been notably absent from the service’s library since launch is The Princess Bride, which was, at one point, available to watch on Netflix. Well, it appears Disney+ is finally bringing the classic film into the fold, and viewers aren’t going to have to wait long for it to arrive.

Disney+ has announced that The Princess Bride will be available to stream starting on May 1, and the streaming giant found the best way to announce it. The service released a video on Twitter featuring Princess Bride stars Robin Wright and Cary Elwes. The Princess Bride is a long overdue addition to Disney+, and it’s nice to see the film finally join other fan-favorites. As mentioned, several high-profile projects have been released on the service, such as Frozen II and Onward. Like those two movies, The Princess Bride gives viewers a more fantastical viewing option, yet it also provides a nice jolt of nostalgia.

But the best part of this development has to be the mini reunion between Robin Wright and Cary Elwes. Even though it’s been over 30 years since they worked on the Rob Reiner-directed fantasy, the two appear to be closer than ever, and their celebrated chemistry is still intact.

In the years following its release, some have criticized certain elements of The Princes Bride, while others tend find it to be slightly overrated. Despite the critiques, plenty of people still hold a soft spot for it. This includes NFL quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who once enjoyed annoying his teammates in the locker room by constantly quoting the movie.

The Princess Bride’s enduring popularity has recently led to conversations of a possible remake, per Sony CEO Tony Vinciquerra. This led to an outcry from fans, who argued that an update of the original would be unnecessary. These sentiments were echoed by the original cast.

For the past few years, Cary Elwes was particularly vocal about not wanting a remake. Following Vinciquerra’s comments, he reiterated that there’s no use in reimagining a film as perfect as The Princess Bride.

We can’t say for sure if or when a remake of The Princess Bride will actually happen, as there haven’t been any real updates since that announcement. Regardless, fans will always be able to look to the original and, now that it’s coming to Disney+, doing so just became that much easier.

Horror remakes and reboots are all the rage these days and this weekend sees the release of the holiday-themed slasher remake Black Christmas. The movie is based on the 1974 film of the same name, which was itself based on an urban legend and already remade once in 2006. Yet despite the 1974 film becoming something of a cult classic, one of the stars of the new film, Cary Elwes didn’t watch the original Black Christmas. He explained why in an exclusive interview with CinemaBlend’s own Jeff McCobb, saying:

It’s unclear if Cary Elwes has ever seen the 1974 Black Christmas, but it doesn’t sound like it. And he definitely didn’t watch it in order to prepare for his role in the 2019 remake. As Elwes explained to Jeff, watching another movie, in this case the original Black Christmas, to prepare for a role is simply not something he would do because it goes against his process.

Cary Elwes deliberately didn’t watch the original Black Christmas or any other film to prepare for this one because he didn’t want them to influence his performance. He wanted to be able to craft his character all on his own and watching somebody else’s performance would have inevitably had an effect on the way he portrayed his character.

It seems his reasoning is that he wouldn’t be creating a character but instead, either consciously or unconsciously, imitating or reacting to what he saw in the original or in another movie. So without looking at similar characters in other movies, Cary Elwes based his character in Black Christmas, Professor Gelson, on professors that he had in college.

Cary Elwes was able to take bits and pieces of professors he had to form an amalgamation that made up Professor Gelson’s mannerisms and behavior. And for the psychology of the character, which if you’ve seen the trailer is quite nefarious, he came up with that largely on his own, without basing it solely on people he knew.

It’s always interesting to hear about an actor’s process and how what works for some doesn’t work for others. Like when actors are in an adaptation of an existing work, say with Game of Thrones, some actors liked to read the books to get a better sense of their characters, while others didn’t want to be influenced and only worked with their direction and what was on the page in the scripts.

You might think watching other performances could give you ideas about how you’d like to approach a role, but I can see how the constant comparison to other things you’ve seen could color your own portrayal. Of course, even if Cary Elwes had watched the 1974 Black Christmas, he wouldn’t have had an exact comparison for his character.

That’s because this new, PG-13-rated Black Christmas is a loose remake of the original, taking the basic concept of a stranger stalking sorority sisters during Christmastime and doing its own thing with it. There is not a direct analog for Cary Elwes’ Professor Gelson in the original film and this new movie seems to be dealing with some conspiracy, cult stuff that the 1974 movie did not.

There is safety in the familiar. This is why so many movies have sequels made, or get remakes, rather than having serious attempts made at something new and original. If there was any question that no movie is safe from being potentially remade, news has come down that apparently somebody is interested in remaking The Princess Bride.

As one can imagine, the idea of remaking the fairy tale film that seems to be not just liked, but absolutely beloved by pretty much the entire English speaking world, has not been well received by those fans. However, it's possible nobody had quite as good a response to this news as Westley himself, Cary Elwes, who modified one of his most famous lines from the film to respond to the remake report on social media.

For a lot of people, called The Princess Bride a "perfect movie" isn't even hyperbole. While the film wasn't a box office hit in its day, it was a film that benefited from the growing video rental market of the time. A lot of people discovered the movie on VHS and it became a cult hit, though now the movie is so popular we can drop the "cult" bit.

Cary Elwes is echoing a largely held belief that remaking great movies badly has the potential to damage the original. While I'm not sure I agree with the sentiment, the concept behind remakes at their heart is the idea that something about the original could be done better. Whether you're talking about remaking The Princess Bride or another widely loved film, there are going to be a lot of people who don't believe that's the case.

As far as what the odds are that we could actually see such a remake, it's hard to say. The comment comes from a Variety profile of Norman Lear, who produced the original film. Sony CEO Tony Vinciquerra is the one saying that some person or persons have approached him with an interest in remaking the film. It sounds like these are names we would know if we heard them if they are, in fact, very famous people.

Depending on how famous they are, how much pull they have in the industry, and how badly they want to make the movie, it's possible something like this could actually happen. Although, based on the largely negative reaction the idea is now getting, they might be thinking twice.

Of course, if there were serious negotiations going on about remaking the movie, it's unlikely the CEO of Sony would be talking so openly about it, so we can probably all relax, at least for now.

The desire to remake The Princess Bride makes sense. It's a well loved movie and if you grew up loving it, the idea of being part of a new version is certainly attractive. Of course, there's no need to bring the film to a new generation. The new generation has easy access to the original movie. The idea of a remake isn't shocking, but seeing the movie actually made again, seems, well, inconceivable.,

When Stranger Things debuted on Netflix in the summer of 2016, it became an almost instant phenomenon. The supernatural show, which is set in the 1980s and follows a group of pre-teens / teens as they battle evil, took the nation by storm with its delightful mixture of nostalgia for the sci-fi / fantasy tales of Steven Spielberg and the horror stories of Stephen King. Never have a telekinetic little girl who can barely speak, a group of D&D playing geeks, a monster with no face and a super shady government lab been cooler.

After Season 2 hit the service in October 2017, Stranger Things continued to be one of Netflix's most talked about shows, so it was no surprise when the freaky drama got picked up for Season 3 on the streamer. Here's everything we've learned so far about what's coming next to Hawkins, Indiana. And, we should start with the new trailer:

What Have We Seen From Stranger Things Season 3?

After a long wait, late March of 2019 finally brought us a gloriously full trailer for the new season of Stranger Things. While the storyline of the upcoming season is hardly completely laid out for us, we do get good looks at a lot of the action. And, it's little surprise that things in Hawkins will not go well once we begin to catch back up with our friends in the small town.

Everything starts off calmly enough (with the exception of Lucas getting hairsprayed in the eyes), but it soon becomes clear that there's more trouble brewing between the rightside uppers and the upside downers. Who knows if that giant antenna the kids put up actually has anything to do with the impending trouble, but even if it doesn't, how much longer until the whole town knows what's going on and just takes off for Indianapolis or some other location without man (and woman, child and cat) eating monsters who look like they've been chewed up and spit out by bigger, nastier monsters?

When Will Stranger Things Season 3 Debut?

As of mid August 2018, Stranger Things had only been filming on the next season for about four and a half months, but at least we can say when fans can expect to see the completed batch of episodes pop up on Netflix: July 4, 2019. While fans had certainly been hoping that Season 3 would show up sometime in the fall of 2018, the '80s-tastic teaser that was released in mid-July gave everyone the impression that there would actually be no new Stranger Things in 2018.

A couple of weeks later, Netflix confirmed that that would, indeed, be the case, as Season 3 was scheduled to drop sometime in the summer of 2019. Netflix's Vice President of Original Content Cindy Holland noted that the delay was due to Shawn Levy and the Duffer brothers' desire "to deliver something bigger and better than what they did last year. And so they really want to take the time to get it right." Season 1 debuted in the summer of 2016, so while it felt like a long wait, it will at least get us back on the original release schedule.

What Will Stranger Things Season 3 Be About?

So, what will the focus of Stranger Things be this time around? The short answer to that question right now is that we don't really know. As could be expected from a town with a precarious connection to the Upside Down and a pissed off deadly being like the Mind Flayer just waiting around to try and get another foothold in the town, there will undoubtedly be some crazy supernatural shenanigans going on that lead our heroes to take action.

And, while the Duffer Brothers have said that they don't intend to do a spinoff that focuses on Kali, the other known Hawkins Lab experiment survivor, they have said they might bring the character back. So, we might get more Kali in Season 3. Aside from that possibility, we'll just have to wait and see, especially since David Harbour has been cut off when it comes to show secrets.

Speaking of David Harbour, though, while the actor is now much more tight-lipped than he used to be, he has given us some hints at to what we might expect from Stranger Things Season 3. He has alluded to the season being very specific to 1985, the year that it will take place in, and noted that watching some of the popular movies from that year would probably go a long way toward preparing fans for the upcoming episodes.

Some big sci-fi and fantasy movies came out that year, so any (or all) of them could be influences for the next season. While he didn't talk specifics about those movies that will play a part in the season, Harbour did mention that the Chevy Chase comedy Fletch would, somehow, also be important to Season 3. So, it looks like we've got some work to do to piece together what might go down this summer in Hawkins.

How Many Episodes Will Stranger Things Season 3 Have?

While we don't have much concrete info yet on Season 3 of Stranger Things, we do at least know the episode count. It was recently revealed that there will be eight episodes in the next season, which matches up with Season 1, but is one episode less than Season 2. While that may seem like a huge bummer, let's all remember that what ended up being the extra episode of Season 2 took Eleven on the journey that led her to Kali and one of the most divisive episodes of the series to date.

So, maybe the slight reduction in episodes means there will be no one-offs that take us away from the main action in Hawkins, and also that we'll get all our favorite characters battling supernatural weirdos together the whole season long this time around.

Along with an official episode count, early 2019 brought us the titles of each episode, which, combined with the trailer, have led to some theories about where things might be going in Season 3. Here they are now, in order of course, for you to obsess over for the next couple of months:

OK, so we can make a few guesses based on the episode titles and what the trailer and a rat-filled teaser has shown us. "The Mall Rats" will likely deal with the kids experiencing the new mall for the first time and having their tiny, '80s minds blown. But, also, this episode might introduce us to that gang of rats we saw in the teaser.

Billy is working as a lifeguard, and is clearly popular with the ladies, but it sounds like one of these fine, young specimens will end up in the Upside Down by the time "The Case of the Missing Lifeguard" comes around. A brief image in the trailer shows Eleven trying to grab someone in the demented dimension but not being able to grab her, so...ugh, that chick is probably doomed. Say "Hi" to Barb for us.

"The Source," "The Birthday" and "The Bite" all sound super-ominous to me. And, Hot Take here, I think we might see Billy, who has a shower moment in the trailer when he's looking at an infected part of his arm with much trepidation, turn into that messy-ass creature that Jonathan comes across in the hallway. Poor Billy, we hardly knew ye as more than mean eye candy. Oh, well...

As far as "The Battle of Starcourt" goes, methinks the good townsfolk of Hawkins won't have to worry about that fancy mall taking business away from mom and pop shops for very long. Seriously, how many businesses have to become ground zero for monster murder fests before the whole town realizes what's going on?!

Hopper

Life hasn't been easy lately for Hawkins' Chief of Police. After helping to get Will out of the Upside Down in Season 1, Hopper was tasked in the second season not only with becoming a father figure to Eleven, but fighting even more supernatural critters and keeping Will from getting taken over by the Mind Flayer. Now that Hopper is officially Eleven's adoptive father, he'll certainly be even more invested in keeping her safe in Season 3.

It also looks like we'll get to see how Hopper handles some real domesticity, and it sounds like a very real possibility that he'll find himself with a love interest this season. Aside from that, we know that David Harbour, who plays Hopper, wants to see the show get into his backstory more or do anything that will let Hopper take out some of his pent up aggression by punching lots of bad guys. And, considering that there's a scary, assassin-looking guy roaming around, it seems he might get his chance.

Eleven

Everyone's favorite telekinetic teen had a very different arc from Season 1. While Mike was desperately trying to contact Eleven after her disappearance at the end of the previous season, we found out that she had been hidden away by Hopper in his granddad's remote cabin in an effort to keep her from being reclaimed by the new crew at Hawkins Lab. She spent quite a while locked up there, and was not happy at all about not being able to see Mike, or anyone besides Hopper, for that matter.

As a result, the two got into some heated arguments where Hopper learned that it's very hard to punish a kid who can move shit with her mind. When she finally broke his rules and left the cabin, not only did she locate her mother and aunt, but Kali, who taught her to harness her anger and would have turned Eleven into even more of a killer than she already is.

In the end, Eleven was able to save the day again by closing the rift between worlds, but the Mind Flayer is pissed and might now have its sights set on her when Season 3 rolls around. As if that weren't enough, she'll clearly have to go up against the new monster and try to save at least one lifeguard, but, she will get some girl time with Max when she's not hanging with Mike.

Will

Oh my goodness. Poor, poor Will Byers. Even after he finally got back home to the Rightside Up version of Hawkins and was no longer being chased by the Demogorgon, we knew that things were not going to be smooth sailing for Joyce's youngest son once he threw up an extra-dimensional slug during some creepy alone time in the bathroom.

And, sure enough, Season 2 of Stranger Things saw Will have recurring visions of the Upside Down that became more and more intense, as it was finally revealed that he was being used and slowly taken over by the Mind Flayer, who wanted (badly) to get into our world. It took a lot of work to get him free from that monster's control, but his friends and family prevailed.

The very good news for Season 3 is that the Duffer Brothers don't plan to have Will be the focus of all the supernatural craziness in town. So, while he'll still likely feel obligated to help solve whatever mystery awaits, he won't be in any more danger than his friends this time around. But, it does sound like Will and Mike will have some trouble, with Will's Upside Down inspired arrested development leading to some tension as the kids grow up.

Lucas

Most of Season 2 saw Lucas dealing with his annoying and disapproving little sister, Erica, and trying to connect with newcomer Max, which was made difficult not only by the boys' need to keep the events of the previous year quiet, but also by the constant scrutiny the new friends were under thanks to Max's step brother, Billy.

Lucas was able to finally win the redhead over by telling her everything about Will and the town (and then showing her proof that it was all real), and just in time for Max to really help the group overcome the season's supernatural obstacles. After surviving Billy, and some tricky life or death situations, these two danced at the Snow Ball, and shared a kiss on the dance floor, and it looks like they'll be a couple when Season 3 gets underway.

Mike

Mike had two main jobs in Stranger Things Season 2: trying to contact Eleven and becoming Will's main confidant as his issues with the Upside Down continued. While the early part of the season revealed that Mike hadn't given up on finding Eleven since she disappeared after stopping the Demogorgon at the end of Season 1 (he'd tried to contact her 352 days in a row with his walkie talkie), he was soon too busy to try once Will began seeing visions of the Mind Flayer and revealed just how messed up he still was to Mike.

Of course, it didn't take long for the fight to save Will to take over Mike's life once again, but, luckily, during this process Eleven showed up just in time to keep the group from getting killed by a pack of Demodogs. A couple of months later, Mike and Eleven also shared a kiss as they danced at the Snow Ball, so, hopefully, Season 3 will see the two closer than ever.

You know who's not going to be close, though? Mike and Will. The newly coupled teen really takes it out on his beleaguered bestie in the trailer, and it seems that two years of having to help save him might have taken a toll on their friendship. Plus, it doesn't help that Mike has had more mental space for regular old growing up stuff in the past two years, while Will has been dealing with Upside Down bullshit that's probably kept him longing for the simplicities of childhood.

Dustin

Poor Dustin. The boy took a bit of an emotional beating in Season 2. Not only did he make a pet of a dangerous Upside Down creature, and realize the error of his ways way too late to save the family cat, but his Three Musketeers-loving Demodog, Dart, died at the end of the season like the rest of his kind when Eleven closed off the portal to his dimension.

Luckily, Dustin managed to make a new friend in the form of Steve, and he was also back in the good graces of his friends by the end. The unlucky in love kid even got a new 'do thanks to Steve in time for the Snow Ball, and was treated to a spin around the floor from Nancy.

While we certainly hope Dustin now has some better instincts when it comes to picking up strange critters, it looks like Season 3 will still be a bit rough for him. His best buds Lucas and Mike both have girlfriends, while Will is wanting to reclaim the childhood he lost a few years ago. This means that, even though Dustin is obviously still close to Steve, he's probably going to be missing the core friendships from his younger days, and also wishing that he could find his own lady love.

Nancy, Steve And Jonathan

Nancy was on a mission in Season 2 to finally bring some peace to her friend Barb's parents and also bring the folks of Hawkins Lab to justice for setting the events in motion that led to the shy high schooler's death. And, with a lot of help from Jonathan, she was finally able to do just that. Luckily for fans who could feel their sexual tension all the way back in Season 1, their work on Barb's case led to the two having sex a few days after Nancy's breakup with Steve.

The final moments of the most recent season implied that Nancy and Jonathan were going strong as a couple, and that Steve was actually OK with her decision. Hopefully, this means that the three can actually be friends and continue to work together to help stop whatever strange-ass evil will be coming the town's way in Season 3. Maybe Steve will even find himself a new girlfriend before the season's over.

Joyce

The past couple of years have been tough on Joyce Byers. First, her son Will goes missing, then she realizes she can communicate with him through Christmas lights in her home, then she sees a monster and has to go to another dimension to get him back. Season 2 saw Joyce lose new boyfriend Bob after he heroically followed her into the living underground tunnels of Hawkins as she fought to keep Will from being completely taken over by the Mind Flayer.

Will seems to finally be out of the creepy, extra-dimensional monster woods, and Joyce and Hopper are growing ever closer. We don't know what Season 3 will bring for Joyce, but we do sorta hope that she can finally get a little bit of peace (and maybe some Hopper-lovin') in between whatever beast slaying she's bound to have to do.

Martin Brenner

Matthew Modine's shady scientist, Martin Brenner, was suspiciously absent from Stranger Things Season 2 after playing a huge part in the first season. We last saw his character getting attacked by a truly pissed Demogorgon in Hawkins Middle School right after Eleven and the boys were able to escape. This led to many fans thinking the character was dead, but, as astute viewers of sci-fi or fantasy (or, even soap operas, really) will tell you, if you ain't seen the body they probably ain't dead.

Season 2 saw former Department of Energy employee Ray Carroll tell Eleven and Kali that Brenner was still alive, and considering that Matt and Ross Duffer have said that they feel the audience deserves to actually see Brenner bite the dust, it sounds like that info is correct and we could very well see him make a return in Season 3.

Robin

By late August 2018, the only new character we'd gotten a look at was Robin (Maya Hawke). The first teaser for the new season brought us a glimpse of Robin, who will work in the Starcourt Mall food court at Scoops Ahoy with Steve. Robin is billed as an alternative girl who's not very happy with her boring life, but will soon find more excitement than she might be able to handle when she stumbles upon a big secret that was never meant to be known.

This character was called one of the new leads by a report in Variety, so it seems that knowledge of this secret will lead to Robin being around quite a bit in Season 3. And, sure enough, we do get to see that Robin will be involved in some (probably nasty and scary) Starcourt shenanigans with the main gang this season.

Other Characters

Now, here's where things get a bit divisive when it comes to the fans and Stranger Things characters. While new additions to Season 2 like Joyce's doomed boyfriend Bob (R.I.P. Literally...) and Lucas' little sister Erica eventually came out of the season as fan favorites, others like Billy and Kali were hated to within an inch of their fictional lives. Bob, obviously, will not be showing up again, but we do know that Billy and his sister Max will have significant roles this time around.

The Duffer Brothers have confirmed that Erica was also popular with the writers, and that while working on Season 2 they were constantly looking for ways to bring the character in more, but simply didn't have enough time to fit Lucas' annoying little sister into more of the storyline. From the tease we get of her in the trailer, it looks like Erica might actually play a real part in whatever monster-hunting missions the gang will surely get up to. So, you can count on Erica being around more in Season 3.

Kali was a major part of what ended up being the most hated episode of Season 2, "The Last Sister," which was Episode 7. In it, Eleven left the action in Hawkins behind to travel to Chicago to try to find the only other test subject of Brenner's that she knew of, and she found Eight, now going by Kali and hanging out with quite the band of degenerate criminals.

And, that was just fine with Kali, since she was, understandably, angry at being experimented on and had taken it upon herself to start killing anyone she could find who'd been a part of that program. She even tried to get Eleven to kill Ray Carroll, forcing the young girl to go to some dark places. The Duffer Brothers have revealed that they feel Kali's story isn't really wrapped up, so we might see her in some capacity in Season 3.

Recently, we've also learned that Season 3 will give us some new characters in Hawkins, as well. Mayor Larry Kline has been described as a handsome, smooth-talking politician who's also pathetic and self-serving, and I can already see this guy becoming Upside Down food at some point during the season. Kline will be played by The Princess Bride and Saw star Cary Elwes.

The kids will also befriend a woman in her 70s, Patricia Brown, who doles out advice as she works in her garden. Patricia could turn out to be an ally, but she's already getting the evil-Upside-Down-denizen-hiding-in-plain-sight side eye from me. Also, remember the missing lifeguard? Well, actress Francesca Reale will be playing a lifeguard named Heather who'll be involved in a "dark mystery" this season, so, yeah, sounds like she might be the one Eleven is trying to save from the Upside Down in the trailer.

Last, but not least, Stranger Things will introduce us to Bruce, a messy, overweight, sexist and morally corrupt reporter. Jake Busey (Starship Troopers, Ray Donovan) has signed on to portray Bruce. And, it sounds like this is exactly the kind of character who could survive the events of Season 3, while someone we've come to love bites supernatural the dust.

Filming for Stranger Things Season 3 has officially begun, and actor Cary Elwes was on Twitter to kick off coverage of his experience working on the show. Elwes is set to star in the third season of the mega-popular Netflix series. In a tweet commemorating his Stranger Things experience, Elwes showed off an old-school Polaroid picture of him posing with one of his new co-stars, Joe Keery. You can see the awesome picture below:

The news that Cary Elwes had joined the cast as one of the three new characters announced for the third season was confirmed by Deadline, less than a week ago. Elwes will play Mayor Larry Kline. He not described in favorable terms, so you can probably cross him off the list of potential good guys. As mayor, Kline is "slick" and "sleazy," putting a higher priority on what makes him look good than what's good for the people of Hawkins. In the picture Elwes posted, he is posing with Joe Keery, who plays Steve.

Steve was the breakout fan-favorite of Season 2. Is the fact that Elwes is posing with Keery a hint that Steve could be involved in scenes with the Mayor? Stay tuned. Given that Steve has turned things around in Season 2, any interaction he has with the Mayor will probably be in the hope of doing good.

Remember, Mayor Kline is not a great guy. Of course, his Season 3 storyline could change that. As Cary Elwes said in the caption of his tweet, "stranger things have happened," right? While fans will undoubtedly speculate as to what this picture could mean for Steve in Season 3, there is something else worth wondering about as well.

With Cary Elwes' casting comes the chance for the Duffer Brothers to have some fun with one of the late 80's biggest stars. The second season of Stranger Things was set in the autumn of 1984. Elwes' career was a few years shy of kicking into high gear at the time. Three years later in 1987, Elwis would have his breakthrough role in the beloved fantasy film, The Princess Bride. The movie is one of the most iconic of the 1980s.

The show would have to jump forward three years to have some fun with The Princess Bride's release and the fact the lead actor bears a striking resemblance to the Mayor. That makes the possibility of such a scenario playing out less likely, despite the awesomeness of its potential. The third season of Stranger Things will only have eight episodes.

A release date for Stranger Things Season 3 has not been announced yet. While Netflix has an abundance of original programming, there are some TV shows that are in a tier above the rest in regards to popularity and critical acclaim. There's Orange is the New Black, House of Cards, and The Duffer Brothers' Stranger Things. The latter has quickly become one of the streaming service's flagship series, and this fall brought its triumphant and emotional second season. Stranger Things 2 also introduced a handful of new characters into the world of Hawkins, Indiana, and now it looks like the third installment will be no exception. Two more cast members have just been added to the mix: Cary Elwes and Jake Busey. They're both playing guest roles, but smart money says the show picked these name actors for a reason.

Cinephiles and casual movie fans will perhaps know Cary Elwes best from his beloved role as Wesley in The Princess Bride. That proved a star making moment for Elwes, and the movie has become a cult classic that was recently inducted into the National Film Registry. Elwes will have a major role in Stranger Things 3, playing Hawkins leader Mayor Kline. In the announcement, he's described as "handsome, slick, and sleazy", and that Kline is more concerned about his own interests than protecting the denizens of the town.

This will no doubt be a concern when the Mind Flayer return to Stranger Things for its revenge. While Eleven was able to close the tear and banish the creature back into its dimension, the cliffhanger ending for Season 2 revealed that it was watching and plotting against our heroes. Perhaps Cary Elwes' Mayor Kline has been aware of the experiments happening at Hawkins Lab, and therefore won't be a help when new dangers come to the town. Of course, this is all just speculation at this point.

Jake Busey will take on the role of Bruce in Stranger Things' threequel season. He's perhaps best known for his roles in Starship Troopers, Contact, and Tomcats. He's usually known for playing arrogant and bro characters, and it looks like that's exactly what he's going to be doing when he pops up in Season 3 of Stranger Things.

Bruce is a journalist at The Hawkins Post, and is supposed to be a slimy guy with "questionable morals". It should be interesting to see if that's how the character stays, or if the audience sees a warmer side to Bruce, especially if he has the power to expose what's been happening in Hawkins and at the lab.

The introduction of Bruce and Mayor Kline seems to hint at how Stranger Things will continue expanding its world during Season 3. It seems that the location and inner workings of Hawkins are going to be explored, once again challenging the main characters to keep their various secrets under wraps. But this could also mean that some of the supernatural incidents will no longer stay secret for long. Hopefully this means supporting characters like Mrs. Wheeler and Billy will properly join the narrative of the series, rather than being kept separate from all the Upside Down fun.

If Tom Cruise's recent Mission: Impossible 6 injury or Chris Pratt's scary fall on the set of Guardians of the Galaxy 2 taught you anything, it's that practical sets can be wrought with danger. Back when The Princess Bride was filming, CGI wasn't a thing, and practical sets were a lot more common, which is how Mandy Patinkin and Cary Elwes ended up filming the famous sword fighting sequence, so director Rob Reiner could get close-ups of them fighting without the aid of a stunt double. Still, while the scene holds up 30 years later, it was damn hard to make, for a variety of reasons.

Rob Reiner's attention to detail and desire for a perfect sword fighting sequence definitely contributed to why the scene was so hard to get right. In a detailed profile over at Vanity Fair, the outlet says the director made both Mandy Patinkin and Cary Elwes learn the art of sword fighting so they could achieve the scene themselves. This is different than in older movies where stunt doubles took on the heavy lifting, leaving the actors to look pretty during close-ups. Regardless, making an actor learn a stunt double's craft often comes with issues.

First and foremost, the two actors initially rehearsed the duel for months before performing it in front of Rob Reiner and members of the crew. Unfortunately, they got so good that the duel was over more quickly than the director had hoped, and they were forced to go back to the drawing board. Not a huge deal, and big changes like this are often made to movies when scenes don't work. But it wasn't just changing the scene. The guys had to practice 8-10 hours a day. Mandy Patinkin and Cary Elwes had to learn to fight with both of their hands. Oh yeah, and at one point Cary Elwes actually broke his big left toe and continued fencing on it. The final scene took days and days to shoot, but Mandy Patinkin said he wouldn't have it any other way.

The end result is splendiferous, well-executed and also a whole lot of fun. There's a moment when Inigo swings from an old structure and, of course, the famed moment when the tide turns and Wesley also reveals he really can fight with both hands. The Princess Bride is currently celebrating its 30th anniversary, and plenty of stories are coming out related to the now-beloved film's release. Rob Reiner's modern fantasy classic The Princess Bride is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. Reiner, starting in the 1980s, released an incredible string of hits, and the adaptation of William Goldman's 1973 novel is as beloved today as any of them. Looking back on the movie three decades later, leading man Cary Elwes reflected on his his role as Westley, the simple farm boy-turned-Dread Pirate Roberts. While he scoffed at the notion that anyone should even try to remake the movie, Elwes did offer a nice "as you wish" of sorts to anyone attempting to do so. He said:

"Lightning in a bottle" is indeed an appropriate metaphor for the Rob Reiner film. The Princess Bride's incredible cast includes, in addition to Cary Elwes, Robin Wright, Billy Crystal, Fred Savage, Mandy Patinkin, Wallace Shawn, André the Giant, Peter Falk, Chris Sarandon and Christopher Guest. Reiner was coming off his first Stephen King adaptation, Stand By Me (he'd later also adapt Misery), which was a hit both critically and at the box office. Meanwhile, author William Goldman himself returned to adapt the screenplay. Everything fits so perfectly together in the final film that it's hard to imagine an alternate take.

While it's not something that would make a Princess Bride remake a good idea, fans of William Goldman's original novel will recall that there's a major sequence excised from the story in the film version. Prince Humperdinck (Chris Sarandon in the movie) keeps a menagerie that he calls "The Zoo of Death." Inside, Humperdinck keeps the world's most dangerous animals in a death maze that included five levels. The first was filled with Earth's fastest creatures, the second with the strongest, the third with the most poisonous and the fourth with the most dangerous "enemies of fear". The fifth level was reserved for whatever animal Humperdinck would one day capture that would ultimately prove most dangerous. In the book, that room would appropriately come to house Westley for a time. It's certainly understandable why the Zoo of Death might have been a bit ambitious for the 1987 film, but it's still an idea that would be incredible to see realized on film.

Given that William Goldman's novel was quite popular for more than a decade before work even began on Rob Reiner's film, it's debatable whether the film version should truly be considered "an original." Oddly enough, even the book's original text pretends that the story is the work of an older book by fictional author S. Morgenstern. Goldman then interjects with his own "edits" throughout the story. The fourth-wall breaking technique was reinvented for the film version, instead having Peter Falk playing a character reading The Princess Bride book to his grandson (Fred Savage).

Hopefully we won't have to worry about anyone trying to remake The Princess Bride anytime soon. If you would like to check out an alternate approach, however, take a look at this fan made trailer that turned the film into a horror movie.

A wish had been granted for fans of the comedy classic The Princess Bride. The movie is gearing up for a marathon special on The Sundance Channel on Christmas Day. Today, Sundance TV announced As You Wish: The Princess Bride Marathon, hosted by star Cary Elwes, is set to premiere on Christmas Day! Fans of the Rob Reiner-directed film can rejoice knowing that they can leave just the one station on while enjoying their eggnog and holiday treats. The film already stands firmly on many all-time top 100 lists and is now getting the full-on marathon treatment. A sign that a film is truly timeless!

The Princess Bride marathon is slated to begin on Christmas Day starting at 1 p.m. ET and will run throughout the day until 2 a.m. ET on December 26. So plan to catch the classic film early in the day or sometime after the last present is opened. The 1987 comedy is an ideal choice for the Sundance Channel to run during their holiday programming block, as the movie has developed a cult following over the years and can be enjoyed by family members of all ages. The film has it all; comedy, drama, romance and a timeless quality that makes The Princess Bride the perfect TV movie for the holidays. It's kind of sweet to see Rob Reiner’s period classic get the star treatment and be recognized as a film worthy of running for an entire day--especially during the congested holiday season of TV specials.

The Princess Bride fandom is certainly a devoted one and this newly announced marathon is a special treat for those die-hard repeat viewers. One might not immediately associate The Princess Bride as a typical holiday flick but what better way to cash in on the film’s ongoing popularity than on Christmas Day itself?

Cary Elwes recently wowed audiences at New York Comic Con by reliving some of the on-set tales from his time filming The Princess Bride, but perhaps the funniest story was actually about his audition for the movie . It turns out the the British actor landed the part despite the fact that he performed an impression of Fat Albert during his tryout.

According to Comic Book Resources, Elwes was at the hugely popular event to not only discuss the cult, comedy classic, but to also promote his new memoir, As You Wish: Inconceivable Tales from the Making of The Princess Bride. As you can probably imagine, the evening was pretty much packed to the brim with chatter that revolved around Rob Reiner’s joyous effort. But it was his comments surrounding his casting as Westley that proved to be the highlight. Elwes began by revealing that he was a huge fan of both William Goldman’s 1973 novel, The Princess Bride, and Rob Reiner, who directed the adaptation of the book. This is probably why he was a tad nervous before his audition. When he first met the legendary This Is Spinal Tap director, the pair quickly realized that they both shared a deep love of popular culture, and a combination of nerves and excitement then resulted in Cary Elwes performing an impression that still mystifies him to this day. I’ll let him carry on the story from this point ….

Cary Elwes then went on to reveal that he actually has debilitating nerves that has long prevented him from being a good performer during auditions. It was no different during his attempts to land the lead in The Princess Bride,and when he returned to reciting lines from Goldman’s impeccable script he once again stuttered. It was so bad that when he left the appointment he felt as though he wouldn’t get the part. Four or five days later, though, his hypothesis was proved to be well wide of the mark, as his agent revealed that he’d landed the coveted role.

As it turned out, rather than being a hindrance to his audition, it turned out that Elwes' impromptu impression actually helped him get the part. Once filming had begun, Rob Reiner went up to the actor on set and confirmed that his impression of Fat Albert actually convinced the director he was the right man for the film.

And let’s thank the heavens that Elwes impulsively decided to pay homage to the portly animated character, because he carries the film’s effervescent plot with a joyful naivety that ultimately enhances the adventure. In fact he was so perfect, it’s impossible to picture The Princess Bride without his preposterously handsome mug.

Over the last several years, quite a few more of them have surfaced, and one tied to The Princess Bride might actually be the best of all the beer-guzzling, fun-loving legends.

The Princess Bride co-star Cary Elwes sat down with The Daily Beast to promote As You Wish, a book he wrote about his time spent on Rob Reiner’s fantasy-comedy classic. And in documenting the making of the 1987 film, Elwes recalled Andre’s drinking – retelling a particularly aggressive binge following the first script read-through.

Apparently, Andre The Giant, who was in severe pain for much of his life on account of his size, decided to hit up some bars after the cast finishing reading their lines. Unfortunately, he went even harder than usual and on the way back to his hotel room, passed out inside the hotel. In the middle of the lobby. So, employees surrounded him with a velvet rope and just let him sleep it off.

We’ve all been there. Except we all aren’t as gigantic as Andre, which is why his doctors never could figure out how much pain medication to prescribe to the gentle giant on behalf of his raging back pain. Elwes said that the "recommendation" made by the medical professionals in Andre’s care was to drink. Heavily. His drink of choice was a concoction labeled "The American," which was made up of 40 ounces of various liquors poured into a pitcher. He drank several of these per sitting. Elwes marveled:

Knowing how sloshed Andre the Giant must have been for the entirety of the Princess Bride shoot, I’m kind of impressed that he was able to partake in such clever word play.

Rest in peace, Andre. We’re raising a pitcher of "Americans" in your honor this evening.

He stole our hearts as Westley, the stable boy turned Dread Pirate Roberts, in The Princess Bride, and now 26 years after the fantasy romance's release Cary Elwes is putting pen to paper to tell us all about its creation. THR reports Elwes will revisit the most beloved picture in his filmography for a memoir called As You Wish: Tales from the Princess Bride.

Elwes told THR that it was the cast reunion that took place last year at the New York Film Festival to mark The Princess Bride's 25th anniversary that inspired him to channel all his warm recollections into a book for megafans. He explained in a statement:

With the help fo Joe Layden, Elwes's memoir will also include insight and stories from fellow Princess Bride cast members Billy Crystal, Robin Wright, Carol Kane, Christopher Guest, and Chris Sarandon. Plus, William Goldman, who wrote the novel on which the film is based, will weigh in, while director Rob Reiner will write the book's foreword. Sadly, you'll notice some apparent gaps in the cast here. Of course Andre the Giant, who played the lovable brute Fezzik, passed away in 1993, but shockingly neither of his onscreen cohorts Mandy Patinkin and Wallace Shawn are said to be contributing to this book. Say it with me: Inconceivable!

All kidding aside, it is a disappointment to hear that neither Shawn or Patinkin are connected to the project, as their characters--the strategic genius Vizzini and the revenge-seeking Spaniard Inigo Montoya--delivered two of the film's most popular lines. Here's hoping they'll have a change of heart in time to be welcomed into the fold. And as frustrating as his whiny character is within the film, I'd be glad to hear Fred Savage share his thoughts on the movie and its making as well. Nonethless, As You Wish: Tales from the Princess Bride seems like it will be a wonderful addition to the book collections of those of us who grew up bellowing, "Hello! My name is Inigo Montoya! You killed my father. Prepare to die!"

Simon & Schuster anticipates As You Wish: Tales from the Princess Bride will hit bookshelves by fall of 2014.

For all of the hubbub that surrounded Robert Zemeckis' remake of Yellow Submarine, we haven't heard anything about the project since January when Cary Elwes, Dean Lennox Kelly, Peter Serafinowicz and Adam Campbell were cast as George Harrison, John Lennon, Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, respectively. Since then, Disney shut down Zemeckis' mo-cap workshop in order cut costs. So what of The Beatles? One of it's stars says that the project is still alive and that it will start up next year.

MTV caught up with Elwes at this past weekend's New York Comic Con, where he was promoting Saw 3D, and the actor announced that the plan is to begin production next April. In addition to providing the voice Elwes will also be putting on the mo-cap suit, but couldn't talk about his performance too in depth because of a non-disclosure agreement. He did, however, say that it will be a "really exciting film" and that he's "thrilled to be part of it."

I was over the moon a few weeks back when it was announced that Zemeckis would return to live-action with the film Timeless. Having sat through The Polar Express, Beowulf and A Christmas Carol, I can assure you that the uncanny valley is real, and I was glad to see the Back To The Future director finally move away from it. Now it seems that Zemeckis wants to get this last one out of his system and I say go for it. Remake Yellow Submarine, feel satisfied building characters with soulless eyes and get back to making movies like Who Framed Roger Rabbit.

For anyone who’s a fan of the Saw franchise, it probably comes as no surprise that I was a little intimidated to be talking to Costas Mandylor. He may have begun his run in the series playing Mark Hoffman as a mere officer investigating yet another Jigsaw crime scene in the third film, but from there he becomes an integral part of the story not only in Saw IV and beyond, but even in the first three films through new revelations.

Hoffman has been Jigsaw’s accomplice all along and after John Kramer loses his life alongside his protégé Amanda, Hoffman and John’s wife, Jill, are left to carry on the legacy. The problem is, Hoffman and Jill can’t play nice and at the end of the sixth film, Jill puts Hoffman in the infamous reverse bear trap. What Jill doesn’t know is that upon leaving him to die, he sacrifices some skin and bones to remove the device and survive.

And so here we are at the seventh and supposedly final film of the franchise. What’s it like for Mandylor to have come so far? Is he sad to say goodbye to the family he’s become a part of on the set? Is Saw 3D really the last one? Mandylor tells all in the video interview below, which was a total breeze for not only are the films near and dear to his heart, but also because Mandylor is as warm and friendly as they come.

The Saw 3D trailer has arrived on IGN and it certainly makes due on the film’s tagline; it’s eye-popping. Lionsgate is still working the 3D angle packing this quick clip with a whole bunch of metal stakes, saws and anything else that might result in some bloodshed and throwing them in your direction. It’s nothing spectacular, it’s nothing bad, it’s just what you’d expect from a 3D horror film.

The more interesting elements of the trailer are the text and the actual footage. First off, the footage; yes, they’re new traps, but they’re all pretty much the same – cages, pointy objects, etc. Well, all expect for one. It seems as though one of Jigsaw’s 11 traps in the new installment will have an audience and I’m not talking about one guy peeping through a hole in the wall.

The trailer’s text is big news. “Every master craftsman – and all true geniuses – always save their best – for last.” Yes, it’s true. Saw 3D will be the franchise’s final film. USA Today found out that on Friday, producer and star Tobin Bell will announce at the film’s Comic-Con footage presentation that the Saw series will come to an end. His co-producer, Oren Koules, said, “We have told the story we wanted to tell, and this is going to be a great farewell."

Sad, but it’s true and you know what that means – they’ve got to go out with a serious bang. Saw 3D was just re-edited so its rating could be reduced from NC-17 to R and another producer, Mark Burg, is surprised they achieved that. "It's more violent than any of them. But it's in 3-D, it answers all the questions, it comes full circle. We have the goods on this one."

Now, to top it all off, Shock Till You Drop has got word that you’ll have to wait an extra week to see Saw 3D because its release date is being pushed back from October 22nd to October 29th. It’s always been a Saw tradition for the new film to hit theaters not on Halloween weekend, but the weekend before. I’m guessing the Paranormal Activity sequel has a little something to do with the switch because if Saw 3D had stuck with its original date, that’s the film it’d be up against, which could be detrimental to both. It’s really a lose-lose situation for Saw because it’s still going to have to face another film in the genre, Wes Craven’s My Soul to Take. My Soul to Take certainly poses less of a threat, but it can still steal some of Saw 3D’s thunder. Saw VI underperformed last year when it had practically nothing standing in its way.

Robert Zemeckis's motion-capture Yellow Submarine movie remains the most puzzling movie I'm forced to write about on a regular basis. Not only can I not fathom why you would remake Yellow Submarine 40 years after The Beatles broke up, but the logic of paying a fortune for the rights to Beatles songs and only getting the ones from Yellow Submarine-- a good album, but not their best by any stretch-- is completely mysterious.

And now that Zemeckis has announced the cast of actors who will portray the Fab Four in their motion-capture suits, my mind is pretty much boggled. THR reports that Cary Elwes, Dean Lennox Kelly, Peter Serafinowicz and Adam Campbell will fill in for George, John, Paul and Ringo, respectively. Elwes, of course, is Westley from The Princess Bride and the star of one of the original Saw films. The other actors will be harder to identify-- Kelly stars on the BBC Robin Hood series, Serafinowicz was presumably the only Brtish guy in Couples Retreat, and Campbell, poor thing, was in both Epic Movie and Date Movie.

To cap things off, the Beatles tribute Band the Fab Four will actually be the ones performing the songs, though actual Beatles songs will be used for the music. At this point it's clear that whatever Zemeckis is planning is far beyond my powers of comprehension, so I'm going to leave it be. I find it impossible to believe this can be good, but I've also run out of ways to express my disbelief.
