Now, series cast member Bryan Cranston is revealing what the production process has been like in the wake of O’Hara’s passing.

During a recent interview with Vulture, Cranston opened up about his friendship with O’Hara, which he developed while working on The Studio with her. He unsurprisingly had nothing but wonderful things to say about the late actress. Cranston specifically talked about how O'Hara's energy contributed to the show being a special experience, and how her experience and craft as an actress was apparent throughout the entire process:

The pair didn’t share too many scenes together, as Cranston plays the Studio CEO Griffin Mill, and O’Hara played former movie studio head Patty Leigh. However, the two actors did have one unforgettable scene together where Cranston’s character is high on drugs and the rest of the main characters have to puppeteer him at a Cinema convention. Trust me when I say it's absolutely hilarious. Cranston gave one of the funniest performances, but O’Hara is also pitch perfect in the scene. Both of them are fearless performers, and it's easy to gather exactly what Cranston is saying about O'Hara based on this scene alone.

Of course, the show must go on, as The Studio is currently shooting in Venice. However, the Breaking Bad star made it clear that Catherine O’Hara’s presence was still heavily felt on set, and her sneaky and sweet gestures were missed. As for how the cast has been keeping the late comedian's memory alive, Cranston shared some truly sweet comments (and a funny anecdote involving series lead and co-creator Seth Rogen):

O’Hara might not physically be a part of The Studio Season 2, but her spirit clearly lives on through her incredible co-stars, who've sought to honor her throughout the production process. All in all, O'Hara was truly a force of nature on and off screen and, although the show simply will not be the same without her, it’s comforting to know her comedic sensibilities are being kept alive by people who loved and admired her.

Lennox addressed a point during Season 1’s production when the cast and crew were hunkered down in a Las Vegas casino for a stretch, saying:

The actions that tend to really matter are the ones that draw the least amount of attention, without anyone seeking to gain credit for it. Surely, O’Hara could have made a big deal at the table about treating everyone to a free lunch, and that’s absolutely the way a lot of other celebrities might have handled it. But despite some of her best characters being over-the-top and attention-hungry, the actress herself needs no such perceived glory.

Lennox continued, making it seem like Catherine O’Hara benevolent actions were as natural to the actress as her hair and eye colors.

To that end, in the year before her death, O’Hara opened up about how lucky she felt to still be working on high-profile projects, such as the long-awaited sequel Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, and that she’d made a point of reflecting on those positive feelings whenever she started to complain or feel anxious about anything. If everyone in the world followed along with that line of thinking, it would be a vastly different orb to live on.

The actress' family and friends gathered together to celebrate and honor her life on Valentine's Day weekend, when her funeral was held. Though she may be gone, her winning spirit and generosity will no doubt live on in her absence.

Kameron Lennox shared that O'Hara's death complicated the crew's feelings about returning for Season 2, saying on the one hand, there's the excitement about getting back to work on such a successful and beloved show. But on the other, there's the heaviness of knowing that the Patty Leigh portrayer will no longer be part of it all.

It would appear that the actress’s funeral was held on February 14, per Kelly Lynch’s Instagram. She posted an image of a program that features the date of O'Hara's ceremony, and along with it, she added an image of the actress in The Studio, which will serve as her final project, as well as a throwback photo.

Adding to the sentiment, she quoted writer and poet Raymond Carver in her caption to pay tribute to her friend:

After the Schitt’s Creek actress passed away on January 30, an overwhelming amount of love and support has been shown on social media. There was no question how beloved she was before this; however, the tributes certainly emphasized the adoration many people hold for her.

Statements from Macaulay Culkin and more of her co-stars were quickly posted. And as her Schitt’s Creek family paid tribute, so did the cast of The Studio as reports came out about her involvement in Season 2.

Also, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’s Jenna Ortega called O’Hara “one of the most beautiful people” she’d ever worked with. Meanwhile, Michael Keaton reflected on his friendship with the actress, whom he had known for decades.

So, considering all this love that was shown in the wake of her death, it feels fitting that her life was celebrated on the day of love.

A little over a week after her passing, it was confirmed that Catherine O’Hara died from a pulmonary embolism, per USA Today. According to her death certificate, she had also been living with rectal cancer for months, which could have contributed to her death.

Her passing certainly came as a shock to me, especially since her last project, The Studio (which you can stream with an Apple TV subscription), was released just last year. Along with that, in 2024 and 2025 alone, she worked on the movies Argylle, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice and The Wild Robot alongside the aforementioned Emmy-winning comedy and Season 2 of The Last of Us.

Overall, Catherine O’Hara and her outstanding and hilarious body of work will live on forever, and I’m so happy her family and friends got together to celebrate her life. I think it's special that they did it on Valentine’s Day too, considering how much light, love and laughter the actress brought to her work.

In each and every one of O'Hara's best movies and TV shows, she made viewers laugh and got them in their feels. The late star's talent is a major reason why so many people have been paying tribute to her. Now, one week after O'Hara's death, her former co-star, Michael Keaton, describes her as “kind of a goddess” while sharing his recollections of her.

Michael Keaton and Catherine O’Hara most famously worked together as part of the cast of Beetlejuice and eventually reunited for its sequel. Of course, Keaton played “the ghost with the most,” and O’Hara portrayed eccentric artist Delia Deetz. While speaking at Harvard University’s Hasty Pudding Theatricals 2026 Man of the Year event (via People), the Batman icon tried to pinpoint the moment he first met O'Hara:

Considering what O'Hara's reputation was even by the time she met Keaton, it's completely understandable why he was in awe of her.

Based on his comments, Keaton considers himself fortunate to have been able to work with O'Hara multiple times throughout his career. On that note, he also recalled how he played a role in them reuniting for a 2005 dramedy:

It's easy to get the feeling Michael Keaton is going to miss Catherine O’Hara very much. And, quite frankly, I'm right there with him and the others who've since mourned O'Hara.

After the news of Catherine O’Hara’s death broke, many celebrities who worked with her were quick to send their love. Her Beetlejuice Beetlejuice co-star, Jenna Ortega, lovingly described O'Hara as “a giant and inspiration in many ways.” The Schitt’s Creek cast also honored O’Hara for her “brilliance,” “laughter” and “warm-hearted” nature. However, she wasn’t initially interested in doing the series, but we know how creators Dan and Eugene Levy (who also co-starred with her) changed her mind.

How Dan And Eugene Levy Convinced Catherine O’Hara To Star In Schitt’s Creek

Seeing as how we know how difficult it can be for many actors to maintain steady work, it always seems a bit odd whenever we hear that someone turned down not just a job, but one that went on to become one of their most beloved roles in an overall hilarious show. But, that’s the case with Catherine O’Hara and Moira Rose, the self-obsessed former soap opera star that O’Hara portrayed on Schitt’s Creek for six seasons.

In a series that was filled to the brim with funny characters, O’Hara made sure that Moira stood out in the pack, and because of it fans are left with some of the most laugh-inducing episodes of TV ever made. This nearly wasn’t the case, though, and creators/co-stars/father-and-son duo Eugene and Dan Levy detailed to CBC Gem the story of how they convinced the Home Alone star to take the leap and join them in that wacky little fictional town. Dan said:

So, the Levys had approached O’Hara and were able to get her to take on the project because she was only supposed to appear in the short that was going to be used to attempt to sell the show to a network. Clearly, having Levy’s “first choice” co-star from the mockumentaries he penned with Christopher Guest (For Your Consideration, A Mighty Wind, Best in Show, and Waiting for Guffman) worked out, because the show was picked up.

This meant that Dan and his father had to attempt to coax O’Hara into the cast for the full series, but she said no and the pressure was on to get her to change her mind. He continued:

History indeed! The final season of Schitt’s Creek netted nominations in the seven major categories for a comedy series, with it also winning in every category, including an award for O’Hara for her wig-loving lead character. As she said in the same CBC Gem interview, “How stupid would I have been not to have done it?” Luckily, she was convinced, and TV comedy history was made.

As a Stephen King fan, one of the great joys of my job here at CinemaBlend is that I frequently have the opportunity to talk to the stars and filmmakers who have made film and television adaptations of the author’s stories – digging into both the work itself and their relationships with the legendary writer. Recently getting the opportunity to interview Patton Oswalt, however, I was presented with a unique situation: while the comedian/actor is a devoted Constant Reader, one of the few fandom boxes he has not yet ticked in his career is making a King project.

At this point, what would be the perfect King role for Oswalt? I have what I think is a pretty good idea, and it was one that I suggested directly to him – resulting in the main headline of this week’s edition of The King Beat. But that’s not all, as the past few days have also delivered both exciting news about an upcoming audiobook release, and opportunity to reflect on the one adaptation starring the great Catherine O’Hara: the 1997 Outer Limits episode “The Revelations Of ‘Becka Paulson.” With much to discuss, let’s dig in!

When It Comes Time For Mike Flanagan’s The Dark Tower To Feature Dandelo, I Can Think Of No One Better Than Patton Oswalt

SPOILER WARNING: Before reading any further, you should know that the following contains spoilers for a particular sequence in Stephen King’s last book in the Dark Tower series. Knowing about it won’t ruin your experience of the novel, but if you’re spoiler-phobic, continue at your own risk!

When doing interviews over Zoom, I like to use a section of my physical media collection as a backdrop – specifically about half of my Stephen King library and shelves of movies and TV shows. There have been instances when it’s been a negative, as interviews tend to be short and the background can be a distraction… but in the case of Patton Oswalt, it led to a fun, quick aside about our shared affection for King’s work.

I spoke with the comedian this weekend during the virtual press day for his new animated movie GOAT, but as you can see in the video above, our conversation first took a detour. Having read Oswalt’s books Zombie Spaceship Wasteland and Silver Screen Fiend, I knew going into the interview that he is a Constant Reader, so I wasn’t surprised when he took note of my King collection – and it led me to note that while he has had roles in just about every franchise (Star Trek, Marvel, DC, Ghostbusters, and more), he has never been in a King movie or TV show.

As Oswalt pointed out, however, while he may not have an adaptation on his filmography, he has something possibly even better: he’s namedropped in a Stephen King book. Specifically, he’s mentioned in 2019’s The Institute, in a scene with protagonist Luke Ellis surfing the internet and learning about an upcoming standup performance at the Orpheum Theatre in Minneapolis.

This history in mind, one might think that a role in MGM+’s The Institute Season 2 would be wholly appropriate (and that wouldn’t be wrong), but I had a much more special character in mind for Oswalt – which he responded to with a smile and a mimed call to writer/director Mike Flanagan.

That character? Dandelo from the seventh and final book in the Dark Tower series. It’s not a massive role in the grand scheme of things, as he only encounters the epic’s protagonists once, but it could be an amazing opportunity for Patton Oswalt.

Without getting too into the weeds and giving too much away to those of you who haven’t read the book, Dandelo is a stranger whom protagonist Roland Deschain encounters, and he initially appears friendly – introducing himself as a stand-up comedian named Joe Collins. In truth, though, he is a psychic vampire who drains his victims by making them laugh, much like how IT a.k.a. Pennywise feasts on fear.

I don’t really need to explain much more for you to understand why Oswalt would be great for the part, right? He’s a perfect fit for the disarming Joe Collins persona, and it would be fascinating to see him fully explore his range and become a monstrous cosmic terror. He’s excelled in dramatic roles before (Young Adult and Big Fan being two titles that immediately spring to mind), and it would be amazing to see him as a true terror.

The only downside here is that even if this does ever happen, we are many, many years from actually getting to see it. Mike Flanagan is being very diligent in the development of his Dark Tower adaptation, likening it to navigating an oil tanker, so we may still be years away from seeing the project roll cameras – and even after that point, Dandelo doesn’t show up in the story until what would probably be the second film in Flanagan’s “five seasons of a TV series followed by two features” plan. Even if production were to start in 2027, an annual rollout would mean not getting to see Dandelo until 2032.

Does that make this an act of putting the cart before the horse? No question about it… but these are the things I like to occupy my brain with instead of worrying whether or not the adaptation gets made and the vision gets executed.

“The Body” Is Getting A New Audiobook Presentation With A Perfect Narrator: Wil Wheaton

I am a big audiobook fan, and when it comes to Stephen King novels, a number of the greatest are read by the late Frank Muller. From The Talisman to The Green Mile to three of the Dark Tower books, Muller’s voice is perfectly suited for the author’s prose and enhances the work in special ways. One of the best of the best available is his reading of the collection Different Seasons, which includes the standout novella “The Body” – but even with that in mind, I’m stoked to learn about a new read of the beloved coming-of-age story that is being produced, as it has a perfect performer attached in Wil Wheaton.

King himself revealed the news of the project via Bluesky, his post featuring not only an announcement message but also a video of Wil Wheaton discussing how it’s been a goal of his for “literal years” to record his own reading of the novella. Clearly bursting with joy, Wheaton says,

Of course, the reason why this is so exciting and is such a perfect marriage of narrator and material is because of Wheaton’s role in the 1986 Rob Reiner classic Stand By Me. In the movie, the actor plays Gordon "Gordie" Lachance, and the novella is told from that character’s grown-up perspective, reminiscing about his childhood in 1960s Maine. Richard Dreyfus plays adult Gordie in the movie, but now that Wheaton is an adult himself, he is an ideal fit as a reader for the new audiobook.

The new recording will be made available on March 24, and pre-orders are open now via Audible.

In Praise Of Catherine O’Hara’s “The Revelations Of Becka Paulson”

In the wake of the awful news late last week that Catherine O’Hara has passed away, tributes have been rolling in. Fans have been praising her work from all eras of her career, including the legendary Canadian sketch series SCTV, the Home Alone and Beetlejuice movies, and recent shows such Schitt’s Creek and The Studio – but because this is The King Beat, I want to talk about the single King adaptation featured on her resume.

In the mid-1990s, O’Hara played the titular character in the Outer Limits episode “The Revelations Of ‘Becka Paulson,” and it’s an adaptation that is as weird as it is macabre as it is great. Based on the short story of the same name, the darkly comic tale begins as ‘Becka accidentally shoots herself in the head while getting out her home’s Christmas decorations. Instead of killing her, the injury results in her hearing the voice of a model featured in a picture frame stock photo (Steven Weber), and these visions lead her to get up to some bad business.

O’Hara is terrific in the role, as she plays it perfectly straight and is a kind of vehicle for the oddness of the escalating circumstances around her, resulting in some wonderful and memorable scenes (my personal favorite being an interaction she has when she runs into the local veterinarian). It’s honestly still somewhat difficult to fathom the notion of Catherine O’Hara no longer being here. What’s comforting, though, is not only the amount of praise she’s received in recent days but also the fact that her work will live on for generations to come. And, if you ask me, we’re all truly lucky to have lived in a world in which O’Hara existed.

The highly bingeable Schitt’s Creek centers on the wealthy Rose family, who find themselves moving to the titular town after a shady business manager swipes their fortune. Shenanigans ensue as clashes between the Roses and upstanding citizens in town erupt. The Levys’ comedy received critical acclaim during its run, and Catherine O’Hara was lauded for her performance as Moira, which won her an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series in 2020.

Catherine O’Hara certainly deserved that honor as well as the praise she’s since received following her passing. O’Hara’s castmates from The Studio – for which the late actress is currently nominated for a SAG Award – also paid tribute to her. It’s truly tragic that O’Hara is no longer with us, but I’m happy to see her Schitt’s family as well as a host of others honor her in such sweet ways.

Catherine O’Hara starred in The Studio Season 1 as Patty Leigh, the former head of Continental Studios and mentor to Seth Rogen’s Matt Remick, who was tapped to succeed her. The Studio’s first season ran from late March to late May last year, and it quickly gathered critical acclaim and numerous accolades. What Was Reportedly Happening With Catherine O’Hara On The Studio Season 2

The Studio Season 2 began filming last week, and according to The Sun, Catherine O’Hara was expected to appear in some of the early scenes. However, those plans were scrapped due to “personal matters,” with an unidentified source who spoke with the publication sharing:

So sadly, The Studio’s Season 1 finale, titled “The Presentation,” will be the last time we ever see Patty Leigh. This, along with her appearances in The Last of Us Season 2, mark Catherine O’Hara’s final TV work. Movies-wise, she was seen last year being interviewed for the documentary John Candy: I Like Me, and in 2024, she starred in Argylle, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice and The Wild Robot.

We here at CinemaBlend offer our sympathies to O’Hara’s family and friends during this difficult time, as well as the people who got to know her on The Studio. She was among the many highlights in the first season, and it’s a shame that her run as Patty didn’t last longer.

The entertainment world lost a legend, as the shocking news of Catherine O’Hara’s death came Friday. The actress known for TV and movies including in Home Alone, Best in Show, Schitt’s Creek and so many others unquestionably affected countless people over her five-decade career. And former co-stars including Macaulay Culkin, Pedro Pascal and Michael McKean are paying tribute to the comedy icon.

One of Catherine O’Hara’s most beloved roles was as Kate McCallister in Home Alone — a Christmastime staple and one of the best movies of the ‘90s overall. I’m not even sure it’s possible to say the name, “Kevin!” without doing your best O’Hara impression. Macaulay Culkin — Kevin McCallister himself — took to Instagram with a photo from the movie and another from a more recent reunion between him and O’Hara, penning a heartbreaking message to his on-screen mother:

It’s unclear how this will affect The Studio Season 2, as production kicked off just last week on what will be known as her final role. Ike Barinholtz — one of her co-stars on the award-winning comedy — posted a photo to Instagram to say how “incredibly grateful” he is to have known her:

It’s clear from the reactions we’ve seen already how beloved Catherine O’Hara was and how much of an impact she’s made in Hollywood. Our condolences go out to her family, friends and everyone affected by her death.

Catherine O'Hara, who had Schitt's Creek, Home Alone, Best In Show, Beetlejuice and so many other iconic movies and TV shows on her resume, has died at the age of 71. She leaves behind her husband of 34 years, Bo Welsh, her two children, and an incredible legacy in Hollywood.

The news was first reported by TMZ, and a rep confirmed to Rolling Stone that the actress died at her home in Los Angeles "after a brief illness." This news feels quite sudden, the second season of The Studio kicked off production just last week in Los Angeles alongside Seth Rogen, Kathryn Hahn, Ike Barinholtz and Chase Sui Wonders.

Per The Sun, O'Hara's scenes had to be delayed due to "personal matters," but the cast and crew didn't know she was dealing with life-threatening health issues. The news of her death apparently came to a "huge shock" of those on The Studio. Now, O'Hara's first season on The Studio will be known as her last performance.

The actress was born on March 4, 1954, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, where she'd eventually get into improv comedy at her hometown's own The Second City troupe. O'Hara was hired as a cast member on Saturday Night Live for a single week before going to Canada's version, SCTV.

She transitioned from being mainly known for sketch comedy and TV in the 1980s, notably getting a role in Martin Scorsese's After Hours and Tim Burton's Beetlejuice, of course! The 1990s were a massive decade for Catherine O'Hara, given she played the mom in the Home Alone movies – her delivery of "KEVIN!" will live rent-free in our heads forever.

She also made another movie with Burton, The Nightmare Before Christmas, where she voiced the role of Sally, which has amassed a huge following since its release. You can't go a Halloween without seeing a Sally costume. O'Hara spent a lot of her time doing voice work in animated TV and movies, including Chicken Little, Monster House, Frankenweenie, When Marnie Was There (English version), and Elemental, with her last job in the medium being 2024'sThe Wild Robot.

She also frequently collaborated with Christopher Guest for his mockumentary movies 1996's Waiting for Guffman, 2000's Best in Show, 2003's A Mighty Wind and 2006'sFor Your Consideration.

All that and we haven't talked much about her beloved comedy series, Schitt's Creek, where she played the funniest and most quotable character on the show, Moira Rose, for six seasons with Dan Levy, Eugene Levy, Annie Murphy and the rest of the Schitt's Creek cast.

O'Hara was married to Bo Welsh, who was the production designer on Beetlejuice. They met while on the set of the film in 1987, and they got married in 1992. They have two sons together, Matthew and Luke, who were born in 1994 and 1997.

It's a sad day knowing we've lost such an incredible talent, and we're sending our condolences to the family, friends and fans of Catherine O'Hara. Thankfully, her incredible body of work will live on forever and continue to make audiences laugh for generations to come.

As The Last of Us’ second season went from development and into the throes of production, co-creators Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann were fairly candid about their plan to split the video game sequel’s massive narrative in half. HBO still waited until the week before Season 2’s big premiere to officially renew the hit series for Season 3, but it’s definitely confirmed as one of many upcoming video game adaptations. And what an exciting season it’ll be.

After that wild Season 2 finale took out a main character (and a couple of others) while putting even more right in harm’s way, The Last of Us will have viewers on their toes wondering about Ellie’s fate for the foreseeable future. But now that the wait is on, we’re keeping track of all the big Season 3 updates while also speculating about story beats and which characters will and won’t be back. So hop on Shimmer’s back and let’s trot through what we know about the third season so far.

When Will The Last Of Us Season 3 Premiere?

With Season 2 having only just concluded, The Last of Us fans will likely be waiting a while to see how the story plays out for everyone still alive in the theater. To date, no plans are officially in place for the production to begin, much less an official release date on HBO.

It's possible new episodes won't arrive until 2027, which would line up with the nearly two-year wait between the first and second seasons. But hopefully the wait won't be quite so long.

Craig Mazin's Plan Has Been To Start Writing Season 3 After Season 2 Ends

In early April, co-showrunner Craig Mazin talked with GamesRadar+ and was, at the time, still neck-deep in making sure all the final details were locked in place ahead of the Season 2 premiere. As such, he wasn't in the most ideal place to start breaking down the story for future episodes. But he did share that he'd be jumping right back to work after a brief period away from his computer, saying:

Hopefully Mazin opens up on social media about when he starts digging down into outlining the new season.

What Will The Last Of Us' Season 3 Story Be About?

While the creative team no doubt has some surprises in store for The Last of Us viewers, there are at least two overarching storylines that we know beyond a shadow of a doubt that Season 3 will dig into.

Abby's Story

Mirroring the video game's dual narratives. taking place during the same time frame, The Last of Us delivered Ellie's side of this tragic tale in Season 2, with the vast bulk of Abby-centric scenes being held for the third cycle. It's almost a bigger risk to bifurcate things so completely, since it gives TV audiences more time to stew in hatred for the supposed villain, but I've little doubt that the writers will successfully put fans in Abby's shoes quickly enough to somewhat justify her awful actions.

To that end, Mazin and Druckmann will also take viewers deeper into Abby's daily regimen as a trusted soldier under Isaac's WLF leadership, as well as her personal life and relationships with others in her group. Just in case anyone thought that Owen and Mel's deaths in the finale were already tragic enough, there's a lot more backstory to fill out for those two and others.

The War Between The Wolves And The Scars

Once Jeffrey Wright's callous and intimidating Isaac was introduced in Episode 204, I assumed the TV series would give viewers some kind of bullet-pointed exposition giving context to the ongoing conflict between the militant WLF soldiers and the cult-like Seraphites. But in the podcast episode that followed "Day One," Craig Mazin explained that Season 3 will provide answers to such questions, and that worries about not being renewed fed into the decision to hold off on those details entirely.

I can't wait to see where that journey into the heart of darkness goes, although I realize it's going to be as unpleasant as this show gets. With Isaac leading dozens of Wolves to their assumed doom specifically to destroy the Seraphites' island community, one can be sure this didn't all start over something inconsequential.

The Last Of Us Characters And Cast Members Most Likely To Return In Season 3

Ellie (Bella Ramsey) & Dina (Isabela Merced) - Alive, Presumed Alive

• I think we can all agree that this duo is the most obvious pair of characters destined to be back on the small screen for The Last of Us Season 3, so it's not really worth going into the reasons why it's logical, even if we didn't see where Dina was after Abby breached the theater.

Joel (Pedro Pascal) - Beaten And Stabbed To Death By Abby

• While it definitely seemed like Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann utilized the bulk of the games' Joel-centric flashbacks in Season 2's penultimate episode, I can't help but feel like the co-creators will continue giving viewers emotional pops that coincide with Ellie's memories, or perhaps even Abby's nightmares.

Tommy (Gabriel Luna) & Maria (Rutina Wesley) - Alive, Alive

• While Maria's safety isn't in question by the end of Season 2, Tommy being at the end of Abby's gun barrel is not the happiest situation for the character. That said, he didn't appear to be fatally wounded in those final moments, and it didn't appear as if Abby's final gunshot was meant for his head.

Jesse (Young Mazino) - Shot To Death By Abby

• Honestly, I don't expect Jesse to get a ton of extra scenes in Season 3, and while it would be good to see more from him and DIna in private, I really only expect to see Jesse return whenever the show returns to that final scene from Abby's point of view. A sad reason to have the actor back on set, but still.

Abby (Kaitlyn Dever) - Alive

• Considering Season 2 ends with her likely aiming to put a bullet between Ellie's eyes, I'd say the chances are higher than Gail that Abby will return almost immediately when Season 3 kicks off.

Owen (Spencer Lord) & Mel (Ariela Barer) - Both Killed By Ellie

Despite being taken out of the story rather unceremoniously in the midst of the confrontation with Ellie, Owen and Mel's personal stories have yet to be explored, so I can only imagine that they'll get even deeper backstories that help make their eventual doomed fates all the more gut-wrenching to witness.

Nora (Tati Gabrielle) - Presumed Dead

As the first in Abby's group to get picked off in the game, Nora doesn't necessarily have the most interesting history to explore for the TV series, but Tati Gabrielle's performance in the back half of "Feel Her Love" was so excellent, I can't imagine we won't get a few heartbreaking details from her past to think about.

Manny (Danny Ramirez) - Presumed Alive

Manny is the only core member of Abby's group whose fate isn't explored by the Season 2 finale, as he wasn't seen again beyond his appearance in "Day One." So it would be baffling if this character didn't show up again before the end of the season.

Isaac (Jeffrey Wright) - Presumed Alive

The WLF's rather sadistic leader has yet to have his actions explored or explained for audiences, so I'm waiting for Season 3 to dig into Isaac's twisted outlook and what the ongoing conflict between the soldiers and the Seraphites is all about in the HBO series' lore. And I'm assuming Isaac will still have his loyal second banana Burton (Ben Ahlers) around.

The Last Of Us Characters And Cast Members Least Likely To Return In Season 3

Eugene (Joe Pantoliano) - Shot To Death By Joel

• As much as I'd love to witness a scene where Joey Pants and Catherine O'Hara were actually on-screen together as married couple Eugene and Gail, I don't see the need for him to return after such an emotionally gripping guest spot in "The Price."

Gail (Catherine O'Hara) - Alive

I'm not 100% convinced that we won't see Gail again in Season 3, because I think we can all agree it would be a TV sin to get rid of Catherine O'Hara without a reason. But if Abby's group gets the bulk of the screentime in Season 3, I'm not sure how much time would need to be spent with Gail now that we've seen Eugene's death play out. Plus, Catherine O'Hara shared with Variety that Mazin told her she wouldn't be back in Season 3.

Javier Miller (Tony Dalton) - Fate Unknown, Presumed Dead

Considering Joel's family history didn't extend beyond Sarah and Tommy in the video games, the TV series introduced the Miller boys' father as a self-aware abuser hoping for Joel to break the genetic cycle of violence. His lone scene was key to exploring Joel's surrogate-father mindset in "The Price," but he likely won't be required for any future introspective flashbacks.

Seth (Robert John Burke) - Alive

For all that I'm holding out hope to see more from Maria and Gail, I can't imagine The Last of Us will give the bigoted service worker yet another chance to partially redeem himself for his slurred rudeness and Ellie and Dina kissed.

Season 3 Likely Won't Be The Final Season

With a post-apocalyptic show like The Walking Dead spanning eleven seasons and a wide variety of spinoffs, one might think The Last of Us would be similarly geared for an extended run, but that's not at all the gameplan for this universe. Mazin and Druckman have stated in interviews that they don't want to make the Game of Thrones mistake of taking the live-action adaptation beyond the previously existing story.

Without a third video game in the works yet, or even fully confirmed to one day exist, the implication would be that the TV show would need to wrap it up after the events of the second game have been adapted in full. And yet...

Craig Mazin shared with Collider that he doesn't think the creative team will be able to properly fit the rest of the game's story into the third season, even if it ends up being longer than the second. In his words:

So there's a chance that Season 3 will end on the exact same cliffhanger, just from a different perspective. I hope that won't be the case, but it certainly seems possible.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, Be-ah, ha, ha, I got you.

But yeah, today we’re talking about Beetlejuice Beetlejuice because I really need to get this off my chest.

I’m the kind of person who loves all sorts of movies, whether it’s the best rom-com films, or the best horror films, or anything else in between. But you want to know what kind of movie I love the most? Movies like Beetlejuice Beetlejuice – the ones where they teeter between a great horror comedy film, but also just a fun family flick that I think anyone would enjoy.

However, there is one aspect of Beetlejuice Beetlejuice that I have to get off my chest, and it’s probably about something that you’re going to think is ridiculous. However, I must talk about it, so here I am.

The Entire Movie Is Still Fun To Me

I want to say that overall, I really did enjoy Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.

The first movie was a film that I was practically raised on, and while I question the rating of Beetlejuice because I still don’t understand how I viewed it as a kid, it’s still a great film. The sequel was a fun one, too.

Was it going to be a classic like the original? Of course not. I feel like it’s really rare when a movie comes out that’s just as good as the first one, if not better. There have been maybe only a few examples where the sequel is just as good as the original.

But that doesn’t change the fact that Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is a fun movie. It’s enjoyable from the beginning to the end, and while the plot is pretty predictable, there’s a lot to love. The practical effects are always entertaining to witness, but there’s just something so comforting to my soul about returning to Michael Keaton as Betelgeuse.

Okay, maybe that’s speaking to some deeply-rooted issues, but either way–

I enjoyed the film, and when I decided to rewatch it, I still had the same fun. However, there’s one aspect that I’m really peeved about—one thing that I truly wish they had done.

But I’m Really Upset We Didn’t See Catherine O’Hara’s Character Much More

Why wasn’t Catherine O’Hara in here way more? Like way more?

When the first Beetlejuice came out, it was one of O’Hara’s first major movie roles back in the 1980s. I think she only had a few films before this one, but this was a major hit for her. Her role as Delia Deetz solidified her as a comedy queen in cinema, even if she had success on television for years before.

From there, we saw her plenty in movies. If you’re like me, you see her every year when you rewatch the Home Alone films and laugh whenever she screams “KEVIN!” at the top of her lungs. But to many others, she has become an icon, a legend in the flesh. To some, they know her as Sally from The Nightmare Before Christmas, a personal favorite Halloween/Christmas movie of mine. Or you might know her from the Schitt’s Creek cast, a role that earned her an Emmy. Or you might know her from her latest appearance on HBO’s The Last of Us, which I adore.

Either way, it’s Catherine O’Hara. She makes gold with anything she touches, which is why I am so confused as to why she was not used more in this film.

Regardless of the story as a whole, Delia feels like one of those characters that only O’Hara could play. While we did get some truly hilarious scenes of her in the first hour of the movie, it felt cut short tremendously when her character was—spoiler alert—killed off by her own idiocracy.

I mean, it does make sense for the character, but then we don’t really see her that much. We do see her at the end of the film, where she has a farewell with Lydia and the others before she goes into the afterlife to be with her husband, but we really don’t get many funny moments of her in the afterlife.

Aside From The Themes Of The Film, There Was So Much We Could Have Explored

If Delia were featured way more in the afterlife, we could have had some hilarious moments.

Honestly, I would have loved to see her and Betelgeuse and have those interactions a heck of a lot more than we did anywhere else. I feel like Keaton and O’Hara’s comedic chops would rub off on each other, but instead, we don’t really see them in the same scene together at all until the very end.

We could also have watched Delia explore the afterlife a bit, hilariously. I’m not sure how, but Tim Burton’s movies always have some strange way to present the unexpected, and Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is no different. I’m sure he would have figured it out.

But instead, it’s mainly her sitting in that same waiting area for most of the movie before we finally see some traction with her. And to me, that’s just sad. There’s so much that could have been explored.

And Her And Adult Winona Ryder Would Have Made A Great Pair

This is also a bigger issue – I would have loved to see both O’Hara and Ryder as adults in way more scenes together.

In the first film, Delia and Lydia were always at odds with each other, and it’s not that much of a difference when you see them as adults, just much less hostile. However, I always enjoy seeing a mother and daughter, even if it’s not the way that you would expect them to be. And I think they would have played really well off each other.

I also think that Lydia’s powers felt way more prominent this time around, which could have given us some great scenes between her and Delia, maybe some bonding moments.

The entire movie is really about mothers and daughters, with the film instead focusing on the relationship between Lydia and her daughter, Astrid, and how they mend their relationship.

However, it would have been so much better if we hadn’t just focused on that, but also focused on the healing aspect of Lydia and Delia before she went off into the afterlife.

Just a few scenes here or there would have added so much to their characters as a whole, and made Delia’s send-off that much better. But instead, we really got…nothing.

I don’t know, maybe I’m being too judgmental about this story, but I just felt O’Hara could have been better used in this. And I doubt there’s going to be a third film, so this is most likely the last time we ever see her in this role. I suppose I’ll stick to the new movies and TV shows she’s appearing in for now, or rewatch Schitt’s Creek. That’s always a good idea.

Five episodes into The Last of Us’ second season, and the wrecked feelings stemming from Joel’s face-squelchingly brutal murder were just finally settling into their respective brain holes, and then along came those gut-wrenching final moments from “Feel Her Love.” Of course, Ellie’s last-second memory of Pedro Pascal’s Joel not only had fans weeping, but also set up this week’s flashback-filled return to the fan-adored Joel-n-Ellie dynamic, so I can’t be too upset about it.

As it’s gone for the majority of Season 2’s installments hitting the 2025 TV schedule, I’m settling in once more to share my reactions for Episode 6 as they’re happening live. We can only hope that I won’t have to mention more than one snot bubble forming from sobbing over one reflective Joel moment or another. If there’s only one snot bubble, I can deal. Welcome, The Last of Us fans, to the dual experience of watching this week’s episode "The Price" while also wading through the sludge factory that encompasses both my emotional center and my sense of humor. I appreciate you as much as I appreciate Dina’s endlessly immaculate hair; which is to say, lots ‘n’ lots.

As we wait the few minutes for the episode to begin, here are a few hopeful predictions I've had bouncing around.

• That the museum scene is amazing.
• That the museum scene is amazing.
• Oh, and for the museum scene to be amazing.

Perhaps there is a pattern to be sensed here. Onto the episode!

The Flashback Before The Flashbacks

Holee molee, before The Last of Us could even give audiences Pedro Pascal living and breathing as Joel again, it delivered a look into the Austin native's distant past. WITH TONY DALTON AS HIS DAD., "J. Miller."

Joel clearly experienced an abusive childhood, and Dalton is almost too charismatic an actor to make me buy into this scene. He's a dude that Joel both thinks is going to beat Tommy for petty crimes, probably logically, but he's also someone who will offer up a beer and introspective advice soon after?

• "I'm doing a little better than my father did. And you know, when it's your turn, I hope you do a little better than me." - Joel's Abusive But Also Weirdly Practical Dad

It's a good line. It's a good line.

Joel And Ellie In The Opening Credits Again

I love that this episode reverted back to a pair of survivors in the opening credits.

Joel Is Just Like The Best Surrogate Dad

Carving a bone to fit a custom guitar has to count as a win in the parent department, right? Also, this moth etching? Gorgeous.

And then his reaction to Ellie's pain after having burned the shit out of her arm as a way to hide her bite scars?

• "Easy, baby girl, easy." - Joel, breaking my heart

I think all my heartstrings are already knotted together and are being yanked all as one.

Happy Birthday, Ellie, But With A Better Song

It's a good thing Seth baked Ellie's cake years before he knew she would one day earn his for her sexuality. He still fucked the cake up, though. At least the message, if not the flavor.

I want to live in Ellie's happiness right here.

Oh no. Wait, let's go back to the happiness of Ellie's cake face! I can't take this song in live-action.

Pedro Pascal's performance was as vulnerable as the lyrics were. And Ellie said a mouthful with her reaction.

• "Whoa. That didn't suck." - Ellie, in need of more cake.

He understands why she burned her arm, which goes a long way. And the fact that she maintained her feelings about wanting to wear short sleeves again is a great detail, since that's what she also told Dina inside the theater.

ONE YEAR LATER: Joel And Ellie Are Still Cute, And There's Also A Dinosaur

This is my dream sequence, but I'll hold onto the excitement until the details happen.

Ellie's Sweet 16 starts off with an attempt to sway Joel into letting her go on patrols, and includes a quick talk about dicks and vaginas. I think we can all relate, right?

I think just about everyone who played the game immediately ran up on that T-Rex as soon as it was right in front of them. And who didn't repeat this one as soon as Ellie yelled it?

• "I'm on a motherfucking dinosaur!" Ellie, on a motherfucking dinosaur

OMG, It's Museum Time

I realize the rest of this episode won't be spent inside the museum, but this is easily one of my favorite chunks of the game, and I know I'm not alone. It really drives home just how close Joel and Ellie became in the years between the Salt Lake City mayhem and their eventual rift.

That Joel even knew how to grease the solar system display to make it work for Ellie is impressive unto itself. I guess it's not that complicated?

Ellie's Big Liftoff

Bella Ramsey once again is a beacon of innocent joy as Ellie here, smashing windows to gain access to historic artifacts in order to sit inside THE remnants from Apollo 15.

It's a glorious gift from someone whose love for Ellie knows no bounds, even if that love is what eventually seals his doom. I got goosebumps all over again hearing that audio.

Props to the HBO series' creative team for handling this sequence in just as powerful a way as it went down in the source material.

HOW IS THIS OVER ALREADY, THOUGH?

Joel And Ellie's Rift Sets In

Ugh. Even knowing that this episode wouldn't be all birthday cake and shuttle launches, I still thought we might get more time with Joel and Ellie's happiness. But no, we get awkwardness of Joel catching Ellie fooling around with another girl, smoking weed, getting a tattoo and doing that whole teen thing.

• "It wasn't sex, and it wasn't a fucking experiment." - Snarling Ellie

So of course she immediately tries to move out, although I have to say, she makes a solid point in calling him out for saying "under my roof" without it actually being his roof. That shit never happens.

So good on him for quickly calming down and offering his help as opposed to jumping further down her throat. Which leads him to discovering Ellie has a keen interest in moths.

Catherine O'Hara Is The Best

I live for lines like this:

• “Is there a ‘Doctor is In’ sign on me like Lucy from fuckin’ Peanuts?" - Gail, a queen among peasants

I feel like hard times are coming for Gail, however.

Oh No, Ellie Is Asking The Right Questions

My stomach dropped as soon as Ellie started practicing her speech, as it quickly became clear she'd been thinking hard about what went down in Salt Lake City.

• "If there are dozens of immune people, why hasn't anyone..." - Ellie, making my stomach drop further

But she's not quite ready to bring it out into the open just yet, since she quickly hid it all as soon as Joel came knocking.

If there's a point in this post-apocalypse where witnessing the fucking habits of squirrels in relation to their size becomes a vital skill, Ellie has a leg up on the competition.

Joe Pantoliano's Eugene, Doomed From The Start

I'm thankful Joel and Ellie's weird tension was interrupted by a distress call, even if it means distress is at the other end. But hey, after some haunting visuals of a horse dragging a body before seeing another nasty-ass corpse, we get Joey Pants!

More like Joey Ripped-Up Shirt, amirite?

The always-excellent Joe Pantoliano's arrival has been heavily anticipated since his casting as Gail's husband Eugene (who was only pictured in the video game) was announced. And this is quite the introduction for any character, knowing that he's already going to die at Joel's hand in the immediate future.

• "It makes you cold, the cordyceps. I didn't expect that." - Eugene, who needs a blanket

Honestly, it's the line after that...

This one is proof alone of why you hire an actor as talented as Joe Pantoliano for five minutes of screentime.

• "Last words for her? No, I need her last words for me! I'm dying. I'm terrified. I don't need a view. I need Gail. To see her face. Please. Please let that be the last thing I see." - soon-to-be-disappointed Eugene

Wow. Just wow. Like, even I'm pissed off at Joel right now for not letting the man see his wife.

Joel Lies About Eugene's Fate

Joel's foul streak continued by first telling Ellie that he'd only tell Gail what she needed to hear, all as she cried out of his eyesight. And he then followed it by flat-out lying to Gail's face by saying Eugene went out bravely and shot himself as not to endanger anyone else.

But before Gail could even fully comprehend the false fate pushed into her ears, Ellie slammed the door on that by calling Joel out on his lies, earning him a rightful slap from Gail.

"You Swore"

Ugh. I won't be able to hear this phrase in any context again without thinking about Ellie's soul-ripping rage.

Uncle Grumpy

Of course, as soon as Joel gets the nickname Uncle Grumpy, nobody is ever given the chance to use it on-screen again.

Joel And Ellie's Big Juicy Heartbreaking Talk

I figured it was coming after seeing the promo for this week's ep, but I still didn't quite fully expect Ellie and Joel to have their conversation about The Big Lie and other big topics. Largely because it doesn't actually happen until the tail end of The Last of Us Part II.

The fact that he's drinking coffee here is all the more sweet and depressing after she'd left the coffee beans on his grave.

I love that they were able to talk about Dina in a way that didn't end badly. But that's not what Ellie came to talk about. She needed to hear him confess to the information that she believed she knew already: that he saved her life at the expense of humanity.

Oh my God, Pedro Pascal's performance here is destroying all of whatever is still holding me up. He's not even defending himself in telling Ellie that he saved her because he loves her. It's just his truth and has been his cross to bear for years now.

Not to take away anything from Bella Ramsey's performance, as they perfectly convey Ellie's desire to have a life that matters, and why the character is justified for her anger, even at the expense of her own life. Definitely easier to say in a moment like that than while on the operating table, and it's perhaps why Ellie relents and attempts to make peace instead of creating a further divide.

• “I don’t think I can forgive you for this. But I would like to try.” - Ellie, the sweetest li'l human being

I should have seen it coming that Joel would literally echo his father's words from the cold open at some point, rather than just proving his attempts to stick to it through his behavior.

I think the question we're all thinking about now is, what DID Joel trade to get that coffee?

Back To The Present

The final shot of the episode is of Ellie returning to the theater safe haven in the present, no doubt hoping to find Dina and Jesse on the other side of its doors. Will she be truthful about what went down after she split from the others to track down Nora at the hospital? Will she be candid about discovering spores and that she tortured Nora for information?

Considering how cyclical other elements can be in this universe, I would imagine that Ellie will bullshit her way through an explanation in the same way that Joel lied to Gail about Eugene, thinking she's only telling them what they need to hear, rather than pointing out how many ways she endangered herself.

I have to think she'd want to expose the truth about the spores to others, but doing so would reveal her big secret to Jesse, so I doubt that'll happen.

"The Price" Rating: 4.5 Out Of 5 Custom-Made Acoustic Guitars

If TV episodes were all meant to be judged by how slightly exhausted one feels after watching, due to all the eye-welling and heart-thumping and lip-quivering and so on, then this episode might go down as one of the best in TV history.

That said, I know there are plenty of Last of Us viewers who are extremely eager to see Ellie extracting more justice on Abby's group, and this episode was surprisingly light on plot-developing drama for a penultimate installment, as this is usually where the fireworks come out in full. So in that respect, I can only assume that next week's finale will be a fast-paced and gory-as-hell ride from beginning to end. Even if we'll likely be waiting until Season 3 to see those two forces smash directly head-on.

The Last Of Us' Season 2 Finale

Before I go any further, check out our biggest look at the Season 2 finale to date!

Even without really featuring a ton of footage, there's still quite a bit to unpack, so let's go into lightning-round mode to tackle each of these topics as quickly as can be.

1. Right away, we see Dina giving Ellie THAT bracelet from the game, and notes that it's meant to be for good luck. Viewers should definitely pay attention to clock any moments where Ellie might NOT be wearing it. Not just in the finale, but also in future episodes.
2. Ellie and Jesse are out in the wild, seemingly without Dina, and the locations probably look quite familiar for those who played the game. It's interesting that Jesse's voiceover carries through much of the promo.
3. Isaac is back! And so is his sycophant buddy Burton, who gets to smash someone's face in with the butt of his gun.
4. Ellie washing up on a muddy shore doesn't seem like a good sign, especially as she's being watched by perhaps the youngest Seraphite child we've seen yet.

5. As soon as Jesse said, "I'm not dying out here," my brain automatically started preparing for him to die out there. The only TV characters who make those kinds of assertions are the ones who are destined for death the soonest.
6. It looks like Ellie gets a quick moment to potentially try and take two of her nemeses out, although it's too dark to confirm whether or not Abby is one of the people walking.
7. Ellie and Jesse running in the theater without Dina makes me think it's her peril that they're running toward.
8. Wait a second...if Bella Ramsey's Ellie is the one being dragged by Seraphites with the intent to hang her, does that mean the series is totally changing up that section of the game that introduces the vital characters Lev and Yara? Or is Ellie just dealing with a mutually exclusive threat of a hanging?
9. Why does Dina aleady look like she's about to be in labor with Jesse next to her?
10. Tying into the #8 point, the promo ends by making it look like Ellie is the character who treks it out to the island where the Seraphites' main island settlemant, rather than Abby, which I'm extremely confused about, while still being quite intrigued.

That somehow became an even larger list of topics than I thought it would, hinging in part on the bonkers idea that Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann would swap details from Ellie and Abby's stories. I can only assume it'd be for the purpose of shaking things up for fans, but that's assuming everything in the trailer should be taken at face value, which is almost never the case.

Now I'm even more pumped to see how things play out on Sunday, May 15!

It’s not uncommon for actors to work together on multiple TV or movie projects. Tina Fey & Amy Poehler and Kenan Thompson & Kel Mitchell are just a few of the acting duos that can be mentioned. The Last of Us Season 2 co-stars Gabriel Luna and Catherine O’Hara now have a couple of shared credits, too.. Years before working alongside each other on the post-apocalyptic drama series (airing amid the 2025 TV schedule), they worked together on a movie. The stars recreated a BTS pic from the film, and Luna looks so youthful.

16 years ago, Catherine O’Hara and Gabriel Luna worked together on the TV film Temple Grandin, which is, coincidentally, also an HBO production. The movie focuses on the titular Grandin, an ethologist who revolutionized the way in which cattle and other livestock are treated on ranches and slaughter houses. Luna made note of his long-standing connection to his co-star by sharing two BTS photos. The first shows them in a trailer from their time working on the movie and the other is taken from production on TLoU. Check it out:

I don’t know what’s more adorable: the photos – which are staged identically – or the lovely caption that the former Ghost Rider portrayer added to his post. The fact that he’s had the opportunity to work with “Catherine the Great” multiple times is so cool, and I’m quite envious. Ultimately, I’d say that both actors have aged well, though I have to say I can’t get over just how young Gabriel Luna looks in the flashback pic. The now-42-year-old actor’s skin looked as smooth as a baby’s. Take a look at his lovely message:

The fact that the Terminator: Dark Fate actor kept that photo would seemingly indicate that he appreciated the opportunity to work with Catherine O’Hara at that point in his career. I know I’d be fanboying over O’Hara, who was nominated for a Primetime Emmy for her role in Temple Grandin. Fate can work in mysterious ways and, in this case, it’s wonderful that it worked in a way that allowed these two talented actors to work together again.

Speaking of their most recent work, for The Last of Us’ latest season (which can be streamed with a Max subscription), Gabriel Luna reprises his role as Tommy Miller. Catherine O’Hara, on the other hand, plays psychotherapist Gail, an entirely new character not present in the games on which the show is based. Both stars play their roles perfectly, and I was quite happy when Gail and Tommy had an incredibly personal conversation during the season’s third episode, “The Path,” which tackles the aftermath of THAT Joel tragedy.

Hopefully, we’ll have the opportunity to see Tommy and Gail chop it up a bit more before the season comes to an end. At the same time, I’m hopeful that the Luna/O’Hara dynamic remains strong off camera. I’d love to see them work together again at some point. In the meantime, though, I’m just going to keep admiring Luna’s sweet throwback photo – and try not to be envious of how flawless his skin looked.

Spoilers for The Last of Us’ Season 2 premiere, “Future Days” lie ahead, so read on at your own discretion.

The Last of Us Season 2 finally hit the 2025 TV schedule last weekend, and the premiere did not disappoint. Not only did the show reacquaint viewers with Bella Ramsey’s Joel and Pedro Pascal’s Ellie, but it also introduced a few new faces, including an original character who didn’t appear in the games. I’m talking about Catherine O’Hara’s Gail, the husband of pre-existing character Eugene, who’s dead by the events of the episode. His story will be highlighted later this season, and O’Hara’s tease has me wanting to raid Gail’s stash.

Gail is a psychotherapist, who lives in the survivor colony in Jackson, Wyoming. It’s there that she treats patients, including Joel, who pays her with marijuana. During an intense scene from the premiere, Gail breaks with her ethics and berates Joel for killing Eugene, who grew cannabis for his wife. Gail’s embittered, but compelling, spiel certainly gives the indication that the situation viewers will see is beyond tragic. Catherine O’Hara didn’t spill any of the beans about it when talking to EW, but what she did say is giving me chills:

I’m shocked to hear that the actress has apparently never done so much crying for so many takes. Seriously, what are we about to see?. TLoU is known for delivering intense scenes and, for me, it doesn’t get any easier the more I see them. Honestly, I’m not one to partake in any sort of cannabis usage nor would I openly impose that suggestion on others in this context. After hearing the Schitt’s Creek star share her take, though, I’m wondering if a bit of grass might actually be necessary to process the events that are going to unfold.

While this plot point alluded to in The Last of Us Season 2 premiere may be tragic, it’s also a creative move on the producers’ parts. In TLoU: Part II, on which the season is based, Eugene is a character who’s only mentioned and seen in photographs. The addition of Gail makes for an interesting way to build on his story and add new layers to it, similarly to how the writers changed Bill and Frank’s story from Season 1. Details on the upcoming episode are sparse, but what is known is that veteran actor Joe Pantoliano plays Eugene. Trailer footage also showed a glimpse of him, with Joel pointing a gun at him from behind.

There is, of course, much more to the second season’s inaugural episode than Joel and Gail’s tense session. Notably, there are also some excellent nods to Part II, including the dance scene where Ellie and friend Gina share a passionate kiss. Ellie’s encounter with the cunning infected girl, known as a Stalker, is also a highlight of the installment. On a somewhat grimmer note, Joel and Ellie’s relationship is rough now, and it’s rough seeing the surrogate father and daughter at odds.

Joel’s urge to protect Ellie is a main point of contention during his chat with Gail, who already knows there’s something he’s hiding. That’s, of course, his decision to save Ellie from death and upend efforts to produce a cure to the fungal-based virus. With so much drama at play here, I remain both excited and nervous for what’s to come – Eugene’s episode included. I’m curious as to whether that installment will indeed be enough of a heartbreaker to warrant viewers rolling one up in order to cope.

After what feels like an entire post-apocalyptic epoch since Pedro Pascal’s Joel and Bella Ramsey’s Ellie last pummeled viewers into teary-eyed pulp, The Last of Us Season 2 is finally here to follow up on Joel’s existence-affecting decision to save Ellie from a terminal surgery in the freshman season’s finale. There’s a big time jump to contend with, among other timeline changes from the game series, as well as a host of new characters to start adoring before their eventual (usually heartbreaking) deaths.

To celebrate the highly anticipated return of the current video game adaptation, I'm going all in on reacting to the episode live, because some comments shouldn't have to wait until the credits roll to share them. Welcome, sports fans, to a show that is pretty lacking in all things sports-related. It's time for THE LAST OF US SEASON 2!!! I wish my house had this lighting scheme happening right now.

Not that I live in a house that big. But who cares, the show is starting, and I thank you all for joining the ride!

Jayzus H. Yikes. Kicking off with "The Lie" is such a brutal way to start this season. And without a hint of reassuring music.

But then...hell yeah, look at all those giraffes!

Our first look at Kaitlyn Dever's Abby is a menacing one, with the new group standing around a large batch of graves in the aftermath of Joel's hospital massacre.

Wow, Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann did not mess around with shaking up the source material's structure. We get right to mentions of Isaac, as well as our first meets with Owen, Nora, and Mel. And there's a ton of malice dripping off of Abby as she makes this ominous threat:

Fuck yeah, The Last of Us, fans. We're in for some sad, sad chaos.

FIVE YEARS LATER: Ellie doesn't need a safe word, and she doesn't want anyone to pull punches. She might have a different request for Abby if they ever knowingly cross paths.

I give this here Caleb fella another 30 minutes before he bites the dust. And not the spores kind.

Hearing Joel call Dina "Kiddo" and then referring to his failures with his own daughter before seeing him talk to Ellie in the current timeline is...not something I want to think too hard about.

As far as "things to say before bringing up a super-awkward subject with Joel" goes, joking about licking live wires was a good line. We can definitely expect for Joel's electricity lesson to come into play at some point, hopefully in the most positive way possible.

Boo on Joel for not being proud to be in therapy. How many people have to die before that's normalized?

Ellie and Tommy's sniping lesson is taken straight out of the video game, from the location to the crosshairs P.O.V. Love that.

I sure hope Dina is better at hiding Joel's therapy sercret than Ellie was when she screamed out:

It seems like anyone in walking vicinity would be able to hear her. Even if they would assume she was lying or joking around.

I know we're probably not going to get a whole lot of Pedro Pascal as Joel in "Snappy Businessman" mode, but there's something very heartwarming about him joking about the existence of a Constructo-meter, especially since it happened right before he get all cute and cuddly with his adorable li'l nephew Benji.

So much cute family time right up top can't be good for anyone's health down the line.

There was a time where I admittedly theorized that Catherine O'Hara's therapist was a figment of Joel's traumatized imagination, but that's clearly not the case at all. And I also didn't predict that she'd be a boozy marijuana enthusiast. Or at least whatever is passing for marijuana in this universe.

It would have been wild to take on Joel in The Last of Us Part II where his inner thoughts kicked in and he just started griping about Ellie and Dina all the time.

When it comes to original characters created for the live-action adaptation, Gail is quite the complicated mix. She's in the unique place of knowing that Joel killed her husband, and has clearly forgiven him enough to the point where she's able to provide him with these sessions. And is clearly one of the few people who can call him out on his bullshit without fear or any other reluctant feelings.

But once she tried to extract the truth of out him after sharing her own harsh opinions, his openness disappeared. Naturally. I'm legitimately curious to see if she can get it out of him eventually, though, probably with weed and liquor involved.

I love seeing Dina and Ellie's burgeoning relationship on display, even if their eventual status will rock Young Mazino's Jesse when he finds out. Dina still says "for now" when referring to their broken-up nature. Silly gal.

Note to self: put this band on your/my radar:

• Britney and the Jug Boys

Other note to self: do note eat attempt to crowdsource a bear-becue restaurant. Although I'm strangely hungry for sausages right now.

It's a small touch, but seeing Ellie jump onto the front of a vehicle and climb on top of the back half to reach an open window is such a trademark of the video games. As is sneaking into a new location quietly, though the made-up hand signals is sadly not a game staple.

Ellie and Dina's recon supply run is full of great touches from the video game. I love that we get to see a beer bottle used as a distraction ahead of Ellie leaping on the Clicker's back and stabbing its nasty head a bunch.

And the tackboard of notices, along with the lineup of Employee of the Month photos is also right out of the game. No need to use any picture info to open a safe in the show, I guess.

Hell, Ellie even fell through a floor, which is also something that happens on more than one occasion in The Last of Us game. I can't recall her finding any Jennifer Aniston-emblazoned issues of People, however.

So yeah, The Last of Us' stalkers are 100% just as unpredictable and nerve-rattling as they are in the game. The noises alone are enough to made me want to mute the TV, and then seeing the plant tendrils coming out of the beast's face somehow DIDN'T MAKE ANYTHING BETTER.

Good on Ellie for being the one to name it, at least unofficially.

The stalker scene's video game connections were immediately followed by a scene that the games did not get to dig into: Tommy and Maria heading up Jackson's city council, as it were. Gotta love that there's someone on board who reacted to Ellie and Dina's stalker-related experience with a Lily Tomlin quote.

I want to be at the next meeting for sure.

Ugh ugh ugh ugh ugh. And a few more ughs before and after that.

Joel and Ellie's first big scene together after that "swear it" opening was just awkward and ended with him brusquely taking Ellie's guitar for a restringing. I think we all know SOMEONE who needs his bass string recoiled, or something.

But enough about Joel. It's the video game's extremely adorable and first dance between Ellie and Dina, and Bella Ramsey and Isabela Merced could not have cuter chemistry.

The Kiss! The Kiss! The Kiss!

And then came the bigotry, with Robert John Burke's Seth ruining the fun by calling out the girls' PDA and called them a slur that I won't repeat.

It's all straight out of the game, the way Joel steps up and decks Seth without a second thought, and the way Ellie chastizes him for it.

The first big Season 2 threat is introduced in the form of the cordyceps tendrils seen within the pipeline running beneath Jackson. Along with a fire nearby. But I can't imagine that burning this particular threat will work, as it would likely only bring more monsters to the city. So, in other words, everybody here is probably boned.

If that seemingly safe situation can go belly-up, are there any cities in the country that could safely avoid all invasions of infected matter?

The second and more sentient threat of the season returned, with Abby and Owen catching sight of lights in the far distance, a surefire sign of bustling life to the vengence-seeking duo.

It's not like anyone could have warned Tommy and Maria to turn everything off just in case someone was looking from atop a high mountain, but I can't imagine Abby's arrival will be good news for anyone, and especially not Joel.

So, I obviously knew going into the Season 2 premiere that it was just over an hour long, and it's been just over an hour and I feel like we should still have roughly 45 minutes left to go in the episode.

All in all, I'd give "Future Days" a solid A. From the time-jump exposition to introducing a wide variety of new characters, the show's creative team piece a lot of moving parts together in ways that still hit some horror-driven high notes. I still can't quite believe that Joel's biggest scene was an angst-oozing therapy sesh, even though I kind of love that it was. But more so if we get to see him destroy a lot of things in the next episode.

How The Last Of Us' Season 2 Premiere Did In The Ratings

Incredibly enough, The Last of Us' second outing managed to top the stats of the very first episode that hit HBO and Max back in January 2023. Across the whole of Sunday night, "Future Days" was watched by more than 5.3 million people when both HBO's replays and Max's viewer data are combined, according to THR.

That total beats out the already impressive 4.7 million viewer tally that "When You're Lost in the Darkness" earned during its first Sunday night, for a 13% increase. That still doesn't match the series-high 8.2 million-strong audience that had been amassed by the time the finale aired. But it does seem like the Season 2 opener may eventually crest the peaks that Season 1 achieved.

We’ve known for quite a while Ryan Reynolds and Colin Hanks are putting together a documentary about the late, great John Candy. But there’s a biography coming down the pipeline too, written by Paul Myers, yes the brother of famous Canadian and fellow comedian Mike. As part of that upcoming venture, Myers wrote about Candy’s past, the future he could have had if he hadn’t died too young, and the memories his friends still talk about.

This book, John Candy: A Life In Comedy, is set to publish later this year. In it, he discusses how popular the Uncle Buck and Canadian Bacon actor still is decades after his death in 1994, despite occasionally being a mess on sets. He said through his research it was hard to find anyone who would even consider saying a bad word about Candy, writing,

Fondly remembered, Candy’s legacy has lasted for decades after his death and his movies are still oft-quoted today. Myers spoke to a lot of people who knew Candy before his death, and one story crops up with his friends over and over again.

On How Dan Aykroyd’s Eulogy For John Candy Still Comes Up

While Candy was never officially a part of the SNL cast, he did host in 1983, and notably was “burned” the most of a lot of other comedians out there in the years subsequent. In Tom Shales and James Andrew Miller’s Live From New York, Bob Odenkirk talks about how the show often has several names on the SNL backburner who get “burned” if a bigger star came along. Per the Breaking Bad star, Candy was asked by Lorne to do the show all the time, and “supposedly John Candy was like the most-burned potential host” by the time of his death.

Still, this didn’t stop John Candy from being friends with alums, including Dan Aykroyd, whom he starred with in the 1988 movie Great Outdoor Friends. Aykroyd famously spoke out at his funeral and recited the lyrics to “O Canada.’ According to Myers’ book (via People):

His other pal Catherine O’Hara once recounted Candy’s funeral, confirming the “O Canada” moment, but also revealing that when John died, the LAPD literally shut down the 405 – one of the busiest highways in the country – so that the funeral could proceed in peace. That’s how much Candy mattered to people.

Candy might have been “burned” a bunch by Saturday Night Live, but he was a versatile and prolific actor during his time on Hollywood. He was a part of the popular Canadian series SCTV, where he’d met the likes of Catherine O’Hara, Eugene Levy, Rick Moranis and more. He appeared in a wide swathe of roles, starring in his own movies like Uncle Buck (which his daughter has said matched his own personality closest) and taking memorable turns in movies like Home Alone and Rookie of the Year.

Per Myers, if he had lived longer, her truly feels he would be destined for greatness.

We’ll never know. While alive, Candy and his fellow SCTV cast members landed Emmy nods and a few wins, but the Oscars never beckoned. Still, he left behind a memorable body of work and bother professionally (and sometimes personally) touched fans of different ages and from different generations. It’s not a bad legacy to leave behind.

The mere mention of Macaulay Culkin, Catherine O’Hara or Christopher Columbus might make a person want to rewatch 1990's Home Alone. Culkin's Kevin McCallister continues to stand as one of the most iconic '90s movie characters, and I'd argue that O'Hara's Kate should be in the same boat. Fans continue to shower love on the franchise, so there's excitement whenever the cast and crew reunite. That was the case when Culkin, O'Hara and Columbus crossed paths not too long ago, and it's a sweet gift for all ya filthy animals out there.

Now and then, members of the beloved holiday film's cast go viral separately (which happened when Macaulay Culkin appeared at WWE Raw). However, there are rare occasions in which multiple Home Alone alums are together. Chris Columbus revealed such a run-in, when he recently posted a photo of himself, Catherine O'Hara and Culkin together at an unspecified event. Not only was the pic was, but the filmmaker added a fun caption as well. Check it out:

While the post is simple, fans certainly seem to be loving it, based on the comments section. This reunion makes me want to grab a blanket, hot chocolate and return to Winnetka, Illinois (via my Disney+ subscription). Aside from its cozy and nostalgic vibes, the post also does indeed have me wondering where Harry (Joe Pesci) and Marv (Daniel Stern) are.

Regardless of their whereabouts, many were thrilled to see aforementioned trio of actors together. What's more is that a member of the '90s film's crew commented on the pic, and Tom Felton (who worked with Chris Columbus on the first two Harry Potter films) did as well. Though it's been years since they made Home Alone and its 1992 sequel, Lost in New York, the three pictured collaborators frequently talk about the classic movie. While Chris Columbus has been open about the OG film's legacy as well as Macaulay and brother Kieran Culkin brothers' roles in them. They've also pondered unanswered questions, with O'Hara offring theories on Kate’s profession. As a fan, I just love to see that Chris Columbus and co. still have love for each other and the movies they made decades ago. To this day, it is almost shocking to learn that most of the original Looney Tunes characters were brought to life by just one actor. Until he passed away in 1989, Mel Blanc provided the diverse voices of Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Elmer Fudd, and plenty more favorites under the Warner Bros. animation umbrella.

Austin Butler (Elvis)

The key to portraying Elvis Presley is nailing his distinct Southern drawl, which Austin Butler went to great lengths to perfect when he was cast as the influential musician in Baz Luhrmann's 2022 biopic. The work he put into the voice seemed to have a lasting effect on the actor, whom audiences could not help but notice continued to speak in the same accent during public appearances.

Eddie Murphy started a career staple of playing multiple roles in the same movie with 1988's Coming to America. He dons an African accent to play Prince Akeem and brings his voice to higher octaves as Randy Watson and Clarence, but he undergoes the most intensive alteration of both his appearance and voice when playing elderly barber shop patron, Saul.

Heath Ledger (The Dark Knight)

The Dark Knight is a superhero movie that won Oscars for Sound Editing and for Heath Ledger's astonishing, transformative performance as The Joker. However, his transformation into Count Orlok for Robert Eggers' 2024 reimagining of Nosferatu was an even more challenging process, requiring a month-and-a-half of vocal training to perfect the vampire's dread-inducing growl.

Joaquin Phoenix (Walk The Line)

Joaquin Phoenix did all of his own singing when portraying Johnny Cash in James Mangold's acclaimed music biopic, 2005's Walk the Line. While appearing on Late Night with Conan O'Brien that year, the future Oscar winner told the late night talk show host that he worked with a dialect coach to replicate the Man in Black's deep baritone voice as authentically as possible.

Amanda Seyfried (The Dropout)

For her Emmy-winning performance on the Hulu original true crime miniseries, The Dropout, Amanda Seyfried had the challenge of imitating the infamous low voice of Elizabeth Holmes, the founder and CEO of the fraudulent blood-testing company Theranos.

Hugh Jackman (X-Men)

Many have been shocked to learn that Hugh Jackman is an Australian as his most famous role is the Canadian-native, Adamantium-clawed mutant, Wolverine. Of course, the Tony winner does more than just drop his natural accent for the X-Men movies but also incorporates a deep, nigh-animalistic growl.

Stephanie Beatriz (Brooklyn Nine-Nine)

When Stephanie Beatriz debuted in the Brooklyn Nine-Nine cast, she used her natural, higher-tone voice to play Det. Rosa Diaz. However, over time, the character's voice became progressively deeper until the actor settled on a low, more gruff tone that better suited the cop's hard-edged exterior.

Christian Bale (The Dark Knight Trilogy)

To play the lead in Christopher Nolan's beloved live-action Batman movies, Christian Bale pulled double-duty on changing his voice. In addition to dropping his Welsh accent when appearing as Bruce Wayne, he adopted a gravelly, identity-concealing growl when patrolling Gotham as the Dark Knight.

Phil LaMarr (The Adventures Of Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius)

Prolific voice actor Phil LaMarr, in addition to his transformative characters as a MADtv cast member, has made himself unrecognizable for countless iconic animated roles, such as John "Green Lantern" Stewart on Justice League or the title hero of Samurai Jack. However, no blip on his resume is nearly as surprising as the recurring role of foreign exchange student Bolbi Stroganofsky on Nickelodeon's The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius.

Mark Hamill (Batman: The Animated Series)

There are two different kinds of Mark Hamill fans. Megan Mullally (Will & Grace)

Megan Mullally absolutely earned her two Emmy Award wins for her committed performance as Karen Walker on the classic TV sitcom, Will & Grace. The key to the spoiled socialite's scene-stealing presence was her ear-piercing voice, which truly sounds nothing like the actor in real life.

Ana De Armas (Blonde)

Cuban-born actor Ana de Armas is known for having a strong accent, which she concealed in order to portray Marilyn Monroe in Blonde. Her commitment to matching the Hollywood icon's dialect in the 2022 Netflix original biopic would earn her an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress in a Leading Role.

Billy West (Various)

Billy West could be called the Mel Blanc of his generation as he can claim to have played about as many memorable animated characters as the iconic voice actor behind much of the Looney Tunes line-up did. To list just a few of West's best-known credits, he was both of the title characters from The Ren & Stimpy Show, took over as Popeye at one time, led Futurama as Fry, and plenty more.

Nicole Kidman (Being The Ricardos)

Nicole Kidman's Academy Award-nominated portrayal of Lucille Ball in 2021's Being the Ricardos was achieved with more than just makeup. The actor shed her Australian accent and added a smokiness to match the I Love Lucy star's natural voice but was also challenged to imitate the more high-pitched tone of the comedy icon's onscreen alter ego.

Dr. Bernadette Maryann Rostenkowski-Wolowitz easily boasts one of the most impossibly high-pitched voices in sitcom history. Chris Pratt (The Super Mario Bros. Movie)

Despite making "total sense" to the directors of Illumination's The Super Mario Bros. Robert Pattinson (Mickey 17)

Robert Pattinson plays the title role of Bong Joon-ho's 2024 sci-fi comedy Mickey 17 with an entirely unrecognizable and, admittedly, kind of goofy voice. According to IndieWire, the English actor based the voice for his "expendable" character and his many clones off of comedian Steve-O.

Johnny Depp (Charlie And The Chocolate Factory)

Say what you want about Tim Burton's 2005 adaptation of Roald Dahl's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory but you have to admit that Johnny Depp did try something amusing with the role of Willy Wonka. To play the eccentric chocolatier, he adopted a high-pitched wheeze that almost makes you question if it really is the same guy who played Capt. Jack Sparrow under that top hat.

You have to wonder which 2025 movies could possibly become the next Home Alone-style staple in pop culture. Over 30 years have passed, and yet the holiday classic remains as entertaining and enigmatic as when it debuted; which probably explains why it’s also considered one of the best ‘90s movies, on top of being a seasonal favorite.

That enigma continues to be debated, especially when it comes to the professions of the McAllister parents. This time, it's star Catherine O’Hara who has contributed some more fuel for the speculative fire, as she's now shared her own theory on the matter.

Inspired by how director Chris Columbus claimed that she was a fashion designer, O’Hara politely disagreed. However, she did explain those mannequins we saw in the Macaulay Culkin starring vehicle. Here's what the SCTV vet had to say, during her recent sit down with EW:

It’s a twist enticing enough to get Disney+ subscription holders to watch Home Alone all over again. And as you'd expect, we have that same Columbus interview that talked about Peter McCallister’s potential job to thank for this new line of questioning.

However, Catherine O’Hara isn’t just disagreeing with Chris Columbus’ outlook on McAllister family lore. Kate’s supposed profession is also specified in the Home Alone novelization by author Todd Strasser, through this passage describing her:

It’s far from an open and shut case though, as the most widely circulated copy of writer John Hughes’ script, dating back to early 1990, doesn’t seem to specify. So for the moment, our theories on Kate's chosen vocation are as valid as theories on Catherine O'Hara's The Last of Us character.

Who would have thought that a question like what Kevin McAllister’s parents do for a living would inspire Star Wars-style lore hunting? Perhaps that’s just another sign of how much those first two Home Alone pictures really are bonafide classics; especially when the first ends on a note like the one shown below:

To be quite honest, the big reason that audiences still even ask this question is because everyone wants to know how a house of 15 people could afford this holiday to begin with. A giant house, with a lavish pizza banquet the night before a trip to France, will inspire such thoughts - even without converting that hypothetical amount into current value.

No matter what the answer turns out to be, it’ll never change that feeling when Catherine O’Hara embraces her on-screen son, warming all of our hearts in the process. And yes, that’s even if that crazy Kate McAllister theory about how she got there happens to be true.

The Last Of Us Season 2 isn’t yet upon us, no matter how much Clicker-attracting noise I’m making over here, but that just means there’s still more time for theory parties, or to at least formalize the concept of what theory parties are. One of my biggest hypotheses ahead of the upcoming horror series, at least outside of worries about Joel being doomed, is centered on the biggest new addition to the HBO series that didn’t originate in the game: Catherine O’Hara’s mystery Season 2 character.

The Beetlejuice vet first showed up with lots of other Last of Us live-action characters in our very first look at Season 2 coverage via the teaser trailer released for on The Last Of Us Day, which falls each year on September 26. And rather than being someone suffering in the post-apocalyptic muckity muck, O’Hara’s character appears to be well-dressed and in a position to offer therapeutic guidance for Joel, a character who is anything but synonymous with therapy.

It’s not at all clear what this new character’s overarching impact will be, but between the early footage and Catherine O’Hara’s latest quotes, my expectations have shifted from being generally curious to suspiciously speculative, which lead to this bit of conjecture:

My Last Of Us Theory: Catherine O'Hara's Character Isn't Real

I do realize this idea might seem too far-fetched to apply to a character that viewers technically haven't even met yet, but hear me out.

• HBO's The Last Of Us doesn't need to add totally new characters unless it's telling a totally new story.

Video game adaptations and more will often combine separate characters into one person to make cast sizes easier to handle, but added new ones whole cloth is more rare. Granted, The Last of Us already did it with Season 1's Frank, who never appeared in the games. But it was made abundantly obvious through the emotional narrative why co-creators Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann felt justified in expanding Bill's story in such a way.

In that vein, it doesn't seem like Catherine O'Hara is taking on a remixed version of a familiar survivor, so I'm making the blanketed assumption that she's someone crafted solely for TV audiences. And that she's also there to give Joel more to do early on when the game's narrative focuses more on Ellie and the quasi-antagonist Abby, though I still have questions about the game's timeline being changed.

• The teaser seems to imply O'Hara's character is a terapist who knows Joel did something huge and wrong.

At the risk of sharing a game spoiler here, the opening moments of The Last of Us Part II serve as a mini-recap of the first game's climax, with Joel making his big confession to the only person that makes any logical sense, his brother Tommy. And true to form, Tommy is shocked but says he stands by Joel's decision to do what he thought was right. And he might be the only living person who would have that standpoint.

Joel is not what anyone would call a soul-barer, and for him to have even shared that news with Tommy is surprising. So not a single part of me can readily go into Season 2 believing that Joel will be open-minded enough to talk to someone outside of his bloodline about anything personal at all, much less the most drastic decision of his life.

Even if Pedro Pascal's iteration of the character is less hard-shelled (and I'm not sure he is), I still don't envision him ever unloading that particular bushel of guilt onto anyone else. Perhaps if it was made clear that she was an old friend or lover, I could buy into the idea that she whittled away at him until he broke down, but no, there's no such comfort in the teaser. The only way I could see him sharing anything with her is if she was only his imagination to begin with.

• We don't see her interact with other characters.

Even I'll cop to this being the dullest thorn on this rosy theory, as it's one that relies largely on the fact that HBO hasn't unveiled a ton of Season 2 footage yet, and that it wouldn't make sense for a brand new character to get the most screentime in promotional offerings. (She did get all the voiceover audio for the teaser, which connotes importance.)

But since the easiest way for this theory to be blown to pieces is for The Last of Us to show others talking to O'Hara's character, I think it's currently still relevant enough a point to offer as support here. And that even feels like a good segue to jump into the actress' comments about Season 2.

Why I Think Catherine O'Hara Latest Last Of Us Comments Fit My Theory

Ahead of her Super Bowl commercial for Michelob Ultra, Catherine O'Hara gave EW a few Last of Us tidbits to chew on while waiting for Season 2, and shared that despite the show being so deep and dark drama, her character will still factor in some of the comedy that fans expect from her roles. But here's where it gets interesting, at least to me:

After confirming how much more intese the second season is compared to the first, with a comparison to the game sequel also addressed, O'Hara then shared some kind (and attention-grabbing) thoughts about her co-stars.

Sure, the Home Alone icon might have just been strapped for time and couldn't very well mention every single cast member on the show. But is it not curious that she only named him at first before then doubling back to also make sure to mention the great Bella Ramsey? O'Hara probably worked with him the most, even if my theory turns out to be bunk, but it would have easily thrown me off this mindset had she instinctively mentioned working with Jeffrey Wright, Kaitlyn Dever, Danny Ramirez and other new cast members.

Now rewatch the teaser below with all of the above newly in mind.

Does anyone else agree with my theory that Catherine O'Hara's character might not be a real person? I'm pretty sure anyone who isn't raising their hand right now also isn't real....

We’ve seen great TV shows that explore the struggles of working in Hollywood like HBO’s Entourage and the 2016 Emmy-nominated Lifetime series UnREAL. But Seth Rogen’s Apple TV+ series The Studio is on a whole other level, as it's filled with A-list celebrities to really add authenticity. Out of all of the A+ cameos in the teaser trailer, I wouldn’t even be able to pinpoint just one that I’d be most impressed to by in this 2025 TV schedule entry. (Okay, it’s Martin Scorsese).

Seth Rogen’s best movies are known for their big ensemble casts like This Is the End, The Disaster Artist and Sausage Party. But I certainly wasn’t prepared for all of the recognizable faces I saw in the first look at The Studio. The show sees Rogen starring, writing, directing and executive producing. Rogen plays aficionado Matt Remick, who becomes the newly appointed head of Continental Studios. Based on the teaser trailer, it’s a battle between executives, stars and corporate overlords amid the production of a big movie. We see the anxiety-ridden situations that occur behind the scenes like parties, creative meetings, awards programs and more.

Other than seeing panic and chaos occur in the teaser, I'm distracted by all of the A+ celebrity cameos that will be featured in the streaming series. If you were to ask me which celebrity I’m most impressed to see in the new Seth Rogen series, I wouldn’t be able to pick just one with all of the options in front of me. Though the first that truly stands out is Martin Scorsese, who looks in the trailer to be giving some brutally honest feedback about a talent:

I already have a feeling that Martin Scorsese’s cameo is going to be one for the books. The Oscar-winning director does make cameos here and there. Some Scorsese's best movies feature him on screen, and he also had that funny cameo in Entourage. Needless to say, I'm excited to see how he figures into this upcoming series.

Another celebrity cameo I can’t wait for is Catherine O’Hara. Known for playing one of the funniest characters on Schitt’s Creek, the Golden Globe winner looks to be a mentor of sorts for Seth Rogen’s character. It’s a huge relief that O’Hara’s time on TV isn’t over.

Bryan Cranston will also be appearing on The Studio as a Continental Studios employee. The Emmy Award winner hasn’t let us down yet with his prolific roles in shows like Breaking Bad and Malcolm in the Middle. I already can tell he’ll be bringing his infectious energy to the cast. Viewers can see Cranston's character telling Matt Remick what the studio’s expectations are in movies they’ll be making.

Of course, you can’t leave out Anthony Mackie. He's dazzled as Sam Wilson in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and as Twisted Metal's John Doe, and I'm ready to see him take on yet another sweet role:

My personal favorite honorable mentions would have to be Zoë Kravitz, Paul Dano and Charlize Theron. Kravitz has been wowing us with her most recent projects like The Batman and her directorial debut Blink Twice. Dano is one of the most talented actors out there who constantly delivers transformative performances in movies like Little Miss Sunshine, There Will Be Blood and The Fablemans. Considering how many films he does, it's refreshing to see him on a TV show (though he was on Mr. And Mrs. Smith last year.)

And I'm definitely confident that Charlize Theron will do a great job on The Studio. Coincidentally, she worked with Seth Rogen in Long Shot, and their chemistry was great.

Though this first look at The Studio is just roughly a minute-long, I’m already anticipating Seth Rogen’s new series, and the A+ celebrity cameos as the sweet icing on the cake. Plus, if Martin Scorsese is going to be in it, how can I ignore it? The first two episodes of the 10-episode half-hour series will be available to stream with an Apple TV+ subscription on March 26th, with one episode subsequently premiering every Wednesday.

Spoiler warning for those who haven’t played The Last of Us Part II game and also aren’t aware of the bigger story beats that take place.

While the TV-adoring half of my brain can’t wait for The Last of Us Season 2 to hit the 2025 premiere schedule, the horror gamer side of my brain is perfectly fine with waiting as long as possible, since the events it’ll presumably cover from the second game did not exactly end so well for Joel. (Technically speaking, the game didn’t middle well for him, but I digress.) But its arrival on HBO is coming soon, amongst other upcoming horror series, and the network celebrated The Last of Us Day by releasing a Season 2 teaser with tons of new footage.

It’s an hype-worthy blend of Joel and Ellie interspersed with a ton of new The Last of Us cast members. Most come straight out of the video game series, such as Jeffrey Wright’s Isaac Dixon, the leader of the Washington Liberation Front, and Kaitlyn Dever’s soldier Abby, the majority-antagonist for the second chapter of the source material. Check out the trailer below if you haven’t already, and then read on!

And now to wallow through the feastering feelings that reside within that point to Pedro Pascal's Joel heading down a dark and depressing road in Season 2, much as it went in the video game, despite any and all hopes that the live-action series would change things up.

Moment #1: Joel Seems To Be In Therapy

Catherine O'Hara is set to arrive in Season 2 as a character whose identity has yet to be confirmed, but the first footage of her in the trailer above indicates she's serving as a therapist for Joel. And the dialogue used from their session is of her asking him what he did, and the implication there is that she's asking about the events from the Season 1 finale, in which Joel chose to save Ellie's life from Firefly scientists aiming to sacrifice the immune teen in an attempt to find a cure for the cordyceps virus.

As indicated in Season 1, Joel already has anxiety issues that crop up in moments of high stress, which this universe is full of. So it definitely makes sense that he would want to talk to someone even in the post-apocalypse. (Assuming this is happening in the present day.) But if Joel confesses his sins/crimes to anyone, that's a drain he won't be able to re-cork, and can't guarantee that word won't spread.

Moment #2: Abby Looking Peeved At Someone's Grave

One of the biggest gut-punches of the video game, which isn't fully confirmed to be playing out the same way in The Last of Us' TV series, is that the surgeon Joel killed at the Seattle hospital is the father of Abby, Kaitlyn Dever's character. And it should come as a surprise to no one that she seeks revenge for it.

So I get zero chill vibes coming off of Abby in the trailer moment where she's sternly looking back while visiting an unidentified grave. If it is her dad's, that'd be a big red flag for her vengeance coming alive. Really, I'm not so convinced this is her dad's grave, but possibly one of the other characters from her group that gets mauled by Joel, Ellie or Tommy. Either way, she looks ready to shoot eye lasers through someone's torso.

Moment #3: A Likely Shot From Joel And Ellie's Final Conversation

Just seeing Joel and Ellie playing guitar in the first look at Season 2 nearly sent me to pieces, since those musical moments play heavily into the game's emotional core. And while there's likely probably some point earlier in the game where Joel is seen strumming it up on the front porch, that visual is unmistakably tied to Part II's ending, which relays the final conversation that Joel and Ellie have before she severs ties and leaves him.

It's as emotional and reflective a sequence as any others in the video games, and I think it'd be smart for the TV show to have it play out in a different context rather than a season finale capper. But regardless of how it happens, the idea of a "final conversation" taking place in Season 2 just makes Joel's surviving until Season 3 that much more unlikely.

Moment #4: Ellie's Agonizing Screams

Ellie certainly had emotional moments in Season 1, and Bella Ramsey brought their A-game with those performances. But this moment from the trailer appears to show Ellie watching the most horrifying thing imaginable. And there are presumably only a limited number of events that could draw such an intense reaction out of her. And numero uno on said event list would be witnessing Joel's death.

To be fair, she could also be witnessing the death of her girlfriend Dina, though that's hardly a best-case scenario to think about. It could also be Tommy or one of the other survivors that Ellie befriends on her deadly journey, but it's truly hard to imagine her freaking out that hard over anything but her makeshift father figure.

Moment #5: That Final, Lingering Shot Of Joel

Hypothetical situation: this Season 2 teaser comes out, and instead of being 2 minutes long and revealing the previous 4 moments listed, it's only those final 5 seconds with Ellie and Joel at the table, where he's bursting with wistful pride without trying to overdo it. And to me, that's the show saying, "Soak it up, bitches, and kiss this daddy goodbye." Just perhaps not in so many words or implied fetishizing.

By all means, Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann could very well serve fans a left-of-center twist that completely shakes up Abby and Joel's brutal confrontation from the game. I don't believe they'll go that route, since maintaining the core canon has been a big thrust for the co-creators, with exceptions being expanded character development that the game's locked point-of-view couldn't account for, such as with Bill and Frank's Emmy-winning episode. I think they'll stay true, and I think it'll crush people.

The Last of Us Season 2 doesn't yet have a release date set, but here are a bunch of shows to watch while waiting for its 2025 release.

By now, a number of TV viewers are likely familiar with the viral dance Jenna Ortega performed for the first season of Wednesday. The moves, which were choreographed by Ortega herself, caused quite a stir and now remain firmly planted in the cultural lexicon. The actress also had the opportunity to show off more of her moves in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, which features a wickedly fun dance sequence of its own. Now, Ortega is explaining why cutting loose in the film was different from shaking a leg on the small screen.

The third act of the Tim Burton-directed horror comedy sees Michael Keaton’s eponymous spectre once again trying to marry Lydia Deetz (Winona Ryder). While professing his love for Lydia once more, the “Ghost with the Most” begins singing Richard Harris’ version of “MacArthur Park.” Others in the vicinity, including Jenna Ortega’s Astrid and Catherine O’Hara’s Delia, join in as well. They even begin dancing to the tune as well. As a whole, the sequence serves as a sweet counterpart to the “Day-O” scene from the film’s 1988 predecessor.

For most stars, the prospect of such a big musical number may have been daunting, but imagine being Jenna Ortega and seeing that in the script following the Wednesday hype. She was recently interviewed alongside co-star Catherine O’Hara by MTV News and was asked about how she reacted when reading that portion of the film in the screenplay. And her response to it is what you’d probably imagine:

Jenna Ortega was certainly placed in a unique position when she performed that Wednesday dance (which was even recreated by Lady Gaga). It’s not often that many actors are asked to act out such a dance, let alone essentially come up with the bulk of it on their own. Ortega even admitted during this interview that she occasionally asks crew members to look away if possible when she has embarrassing scenes.

It would seem that with Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’s musical number, though, the actress found comfort in knowing that she wouldn’t be dancing by herself. There was also another element that put her at ease:

While she may not have looked cool performing the young Addams family member’s dance on set, Netflix subscription holders surely enjoyed seeing it play out on the show. Also a fan of that moment is Catherine O’Hara, who has a piece of praise:

I’d agree, and I’d also say that Jenna Ortega’s dance work in the box office hit Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is sensational as well. One has to wonder if Ortega might be called upon to cut a rug in a future project or two, considering her experience. Chances are she’d be game for the challenge, but I wouldn’t expect her to actually relish the experience all that much based on her comments.

There’s a lot of death in Beetlejuice, it’s kind of its thing. I get that. However, for the most part, the loss of loved ones isn’t downplayed. In Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, that’s made clear, until it’s not. The passing of Delia’s husband Charles and Astrid’s father Richard (Lydia’s ex-husband) are mourned and big plot points in the movie. Meanwhile, when Delia herself dies, it’s almost shrugged off and played as a joke. With all that in mind, I think we need to take a minute to talk about the death of Catherine O’Hara’s character in Tim Burton’s sequel, because she deserved better.

Now, let’s make this clear quickly, in a lot of ways, I think Beetlejuice Beetlejuice improves on the original, and that includes through O’Hara’s character. She’s a lot more caring about Lydia and Astrid, and her mourning her husband is a bittersweet subplot of the film.

However, toward the end, she orderd two snakes that she claimed weren’t poisonous. Well, they were, and she died in a very anti-climactic way. The next thing both she and I knew she was in the afterlife. It’s played as a joke more than anything, and that bothered me.

Delia had grown a lot as a character, and it felt like we just kinda shrugged off the fact that SHE’S DEAD! I know Winona Ryder and Jenna Ortega’s characters can still see her. But again, she’s dead, and that’s a big deal!

Unlike Charles, there was no funeral – at least not in this film. And when she left Asrid and Lydia, there weren’t any big emotions shown. Honestly, it felt like all of them had vague “k bye” energy.

I realize both Ryder and Ortega’s characters aren’t the closest with Delia. However, this whole movie focused around the three of them. I would have loved at least one tear shed, maybe a more emotional goodbye. I’m not picky. I just didn’t want them to brush it away and make it as casual as it was.

Of course, I’m happy Delia was reunited with Charles (or at least half of him) in the afterlife, and my guess is she’ll be very happy there. Still, her exit from the world was deeply downplayed.

I think this critique is a side-effect of a greater issue this film has: there’s too much going on. Critics' reactions to Beetlejuice Beetlejuice pointed this out too, noting its “overstuffed narrative.” CinemaBlend’s review of the Beetlejuice sequel rightly points out that this film is “an example of reverent nostalgia done right,” and that's true. It successfully brings back the iconic characters played by Catherine O’Hara, Winona Ryder and Michael Keaton. It falls short, however, because it’s trying too hard to squish as much as it can into the film.

So, because of that, subplots -- like O’Hara’s -- fell short, and her death ended up getting downplayed.

On top of all this, Beetlejuice is one of Catherine O’Hara’s best movies, and its sequel was shaping up to be one too, as her performance is magnificent in it. That makes the sting of her ending even worse.

Overall, though, I did thoroughly enjoy the movie, and the Schitt’s Creek star’s performance. I just wish she went out with the bang she deserved, not the fizzle and kinda sad goodbye she got.

More than 35 years have passed since Michael Keaton first suited up as Beetlejuice, but I guess for those stuck in the afterlife waiting room, that’s not all that long. For us, though, who walk amongst the living, the lengthy wait to see the eccentric ghoul on the 2024 movie calendar is finally over, as he reunites with Winona Ryder’s Lydia and Catherine O’Hara’s Delia in the sequel Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. As Tim Burton’s new project hits theaters September 6, critics are weighing in, and if the first reactions to the Michael Keaton legacy sequel are any indication, fans are in for some fun.

As we return to the haunted house in Winter River, Jenna Ortega has joined the Beetle-verse as Astrid, Lydia’s daughter. The tension between the women is all too real as they return to Connecticut after Lydia’s father’s death, putting them on a collision course for a reunion with the undead figure from Lydia’s past.

Siddhant Adlakha of IGN rates it a “Good” 7 out of 10, saying the movie is a charming, if unnecessary, legacy-quel that should please fans of the original. The critic writes:

Fred Topel of UPI says Tim Burton remembers what made the original movie so special, and while he can’t reinvent the afterlife, he’s sure to include plenty of the fun and surrealism that drew fans in the first time around. Topel continues:

Meagan Navarro of Bloody Disgusting gives Beetlejuice 2 3 out of 5 skulls, saying this legacy sequel is packed with fan service and callbacks, making for an overstuffed narrative. However, Michael Keaton hasn’t missed a beat, and Catherine O’Hara steals every scene, as this strange and whimsical return to the afterlife is plenty delightful, Navarro says, writing:

Matt Singer of ScreenCrush gives it 6 out of 10, saying that while the sequel is overloaded with characters and unnecessary subplots, Michael Keaton is still the ghost with the most. He says:

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes with a score of 78% ahead of its official opening. From the critics’ assessments, it sounds like the story may not be as smooth as we’d like it to be but seeing these characters back in this world might be worth the price of admission. Find out for yourself, as the upcoming horror movie hits theaters on September 6.

It’s showtime! One of our favorite and most theatrical demons is back with an offering for the 2024 movie release calendar. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice comes 36 years after the Maitlands first asked Betelgeuse to help scare away the new family that had moved into the deceased couple’s home, and now critics have had the opportunity to screen the sequel, which will see Winona Ryder’s Lydia Deetz return to her haunted teenage home. The upcoming horror movie is a highly anticipated venture for lovers of the 1988 classic, and from the looks of the first reactions, we won’t be disappointed.

In addition to Winona Ryder, Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice Beetlejuice also features Michael Keaton reprising the role of the titular troublemaker, as well as Catherine O’Hara as Lydia’s stepmother Delia. The former goth teen comes face-to-rotten face with the mischievous ghoul after her daughter Astrid (Jenna Ortega) accidentally opens the portal to the afterlife. As for what people are saying, CinemaBlend’s own Mike Reyes thinks Beetlejuice 2 is just as bonkers and nostalgic as you’d hope, writing:

Erik Walkuski of JoBlo agrees, calling the OG trio “a sight for sore eyes,” and Catherine O’Hara steals the show in a successful zany offering from Tim Burton. He posts:

A couple of those who caught an early screening of the sequel mention too many subplots, and that critique is echoed by Eric Goldman. He also mentions how seamlessly its stars fall back into these classic characters and that Catherine O’Hara brings her A-game. In Goldman’s words:

Rachel Leishman of The Mary Sue calls Tim Burton’s latest effort a “worthy sequel,” and even more than 30 years later, Michael Keaton is perfect as the title character. Leishman says:

She’s not the only one talking about the film’s use of “MacArthur Park,” as Scott Menzel of We Live Entertainment says Beetlejuice 2 found a worthy followup to “Banana Boat (Day-O).” Menzel predicts box office success, writing:

As a huge fan of the 1988 film, Perri Nemiroff calls the sequel a “joyous romp back into that world.” Winona Ryder and Jenna Ortega are a great mother-daughter pair (as expected), with Willem Dafoe putting in a fun effort as well. In Nemiroff’s words:

Ema Sasic of Next Best Picture says the Tim Burton film offers a healthy dose of nostalgia mixed with its entertaining new plotlines. Sasic also praises the afterlife’s set pieces, writing:

These are very promising first reactions, and it sounds like fans of the original are going to find a lot to like here. Those who want a refresher on the 1988 horror comedy Beetlejuice can screen it with a Max subscription, and then catch Beetlejuice Beetlejuice when it hits the big screen on Friday, September 6.

Every now and again there’s a topic on the Internet that will go viral more than once. This time, the winner winner chicken dinner is the fact Home Alone mom Catherine O’Hara was only 36 when she appeared as Kevin McCallister’s mom in what would become one of the best movies of the 1990s. This is not the first time this movie factoid has gone viral, but it is the first time it is hitting me like a ton of bricks.

Here’s the gist: many years around the Christmas holiday a tweet will mention that O’Hara was 36 at the time Home Alone was filming. It’s been 34 years since the movie came out and O’Hara is now 70, but the point stands; she was a pretty young mom to have a daughter who was 15, a kid in middle school, and five kids in total, but times were different then. (Though there are some similar families today.)

It wasn't so long ago O’Hara and Macaulay Culkin went viral when they reunited during his Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony. The moment went viral, and of course people started talking about the Home Alone mom again. Then, Buzzfeed recently put together a list comparing celebrities at age 36 based on the viral moment between the famous movie mother and her famous movie son (who is now 43–aka seven years older than O’Hara was when the flick filmed). But I’m having my own personal meltdown in regards to the topic.

This time, when reading this hot fact I am actually 36 years old. I have done some things in my life that are very grown-up, like paying off student loan debt and landing a mortgage. But I’m not anywhere near the grown-up with multiple children to watch or assets worthy of stealing in a Chicago suburb Mrs. McCallister is. I certainly don’t spend Christmas in Paris. And while jokes can be made about how she literally was such a negligent parent she left her kid at home whilst hiring a car service to travel to her vacation, otherwise, I am so miles apart from this reality this movie realization has been quite the sobering thought for me.

I’m not alone. I’ve, in fact, taken solace in myriad videos on this exact topic. This one really gets to the germ of how I'm feeling at this exact moment.

When Culkin and O’Hara reunited, she wrote about her negligence as a movie mother, telling the actor:

While she may have not have been mom of the year, Catherine O’Hara is certainly an icon outside of her work in Home Alone and has cemented herself as a comedy legend in roles as varied as leading the Schitt’s Creek cast and starring in many Christopher Guest projects. But even with her large oeuvre, it’s gonna be this hot fact I will think of forever, kind of similar to how I only remember that one kid in high school who never swapped out their gym socks because they never swapped out their gym socks. It's the one thing that sticks with me years later. My apologies to O'Hara, who has said many, many funny things in her life.

As DreamWorks celebrates thirty years in 2024, the animation studio is following up the release of Kung Fu Panda 4 with a brand new title in The Wild Robot. It’s one of this year’s upcoming book adaptations, as it brings Peter Brown’s middle grade novel to the big screen in stunning ways. Ahead of the new trailer being out, DreamWorks invited CinemaBlend to see exclusive footage of The Wild Robot and it offered us more insight into what to expect from the new movie. 

While the next DreamWorks movie wasn’t necessarily high on my radar before, it has since joined my must see list among 2024 movie releases. Check out the new trailer on YouTube below:

The Early The Wild Robot Footage I Got To See

On Wednesday, May 22, DreamWorks showcased a few scenes from the movie to press along with the new trailer (which is now out) at its campus in Glendale, California. Writer/director Chris Sanders, who famously co-directed Lilo & Stitch along with How To Train Your Dragon, treated us to the beginning of the film. He also brought its star, Lupita Nyong’o on stage to speak about her experience playing a robot named Roz, voiced by who finds itself turning on for the first time on a deserted island without a purchaser to provide its services too. In the footage, Roz is determined to carry out what it is programmed to do, and runs all around the island, making many misguided (and quite hilarious) encounters with its wildlife in an effort to find an objective. The scene leads up to Roz finding its objective in coming across an abandoned gosling egg and taking it in as its own. It was explained to us that Roz will go on to raise the little fella. 

The DreamWorks presentation then skipped around in the movie to a place where the gosling Brightbill, played by Heartstopper’s Kit Connor has grown up and is being taught how to fly by Roz. With a series of training expertly crafted by Roz, Brightbill finds his way into the sky. However, there’s pathos around him leaving Roz to be with his kind and the robot once again being without a purpose. When the scene ended with Brightbill parting with Roz, initially it seemed as if the animation studio had taken us much further in the movie than one might expect for a sneak preview, but then Sanders assured us that the scene was still from early in the film. This surprise had me even more excited by The Wild Robot because it changed up my expectations from what the narrative originally had me thinking it was. As the trailer even teases, there will be some robot action on the horizon somehow in the second half. 

The Wild Robot’s Animation Style Is A Standout For The Studio 

While I’ve always had a blast with DreamWorks movies, sometimes I can feel like I’m watching a computer generated movie a little too much when it comes to its visual decision making for the past three decades. So, I was pleasantly surprised to see the studiodoing something different for 2022’s The Bad Guys. This continues for The Wild Robot as the movie definitely sets itself apart from stylings of other movies from the studio with a rather photorealistic, but also rather original style. 

It already looks like one of the most gorgeous movies DreamWorks have ever animated, and I’m living for the new direction they are going in. I like how the studio is implementing new technologies to give audiences a great big screen experience with The Wild Robot that will make me and other audiences want to head to the theaters to see it. I admire the art style for looking like a watercolor painting in many instances as well. Every frame had me wanting to pause it and take a photo to place on a wall. 

The Upcoming Movie Tows A Nice Line Between Clever And Sweet 

In terms of The Wild Robot’s tone, I’m really digging it thus far! In the footage I watched of the beginning, the movie had one hilarious quip after the other, making for a very entertaining and fun watch. DreamWorks is taking a page out of Disney’s animation formula by having a ton of visual gags, but yes, some of the cleverness and edge this studio is known for is in there too. 

In the second scene DreamWorks showed us it was a lot more emotional. I didn’t even have the full context of Roz and Brightbill’s relationship and I was already verging on tears seeing the gosling all grown up. I can tell The Wild Robot is going to have metaphors for parenting between the main characters, and I’m ready to sob!! 

The Talent Behind The Scenes Is Also Promising 

As I watched Chris Sanders and Lupita Nyong’o speak about The Wild Robot, it struck me how much care was placed into the making of this movie. Now, Sanders is behind one of my favorite Disney movies in Lilo & Stitch and favorite DreamWorks movies with How To Train Your Dragon. I think the line that he weaves between the two of them is a real attention to story and authentic emotional beats that aren't necessarily easy to come by. During the event, Nyong’o spoke a lot about questioning Sanders about Roz’s intentions and the script, so I feel as if the actor’s involvement has only made it better. 

And then there’s a supporting cast that has Pedro Pascal playing a Fox named Fink along with Catherine O’Hara, Bill Nighy, Stephanie Hsu, Mark Hamill, Matt Berry and Ving Rhames involved as well. Inside Out’s release this weekend may be the most I’ve anticipated an animated movie in a while, but once I see that, The Wild Robot has shot to the top! It's too bad the movie will mark the last fully in-house DreamWorks film too, because this looks like it could be a big hit. You can look forward to its release on September 27.  

Summer hasn't even arrived yet, but the spooky season vibes are living and thriving thanks to anticipation for Tim Burton's return to afterlife shenanigans with the upcoming sequel Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, which has finally dropped its first full-length trailer for horror-comedy fans around the world (and beyond). It's a step six feet up from the easter egg-filled teaser promo, and I still can't believe it's real.

Few upcoming horror movies have the bonafides of Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, thanks to the original 1988 hit that turned black-and-white suits into a Halloween mainstay. And here's hoping the sequel 36 years in the making will be worth the wait. Not that B. would realize it, since time works a little differently in the afterlife. He still looks great, except for maybe when his face does that thing that makes people faint.

Even if the trailer would have been a big honking mess, I'm pretty sure fans would still line up in droves to see Michael Keaton back in black and white for a smorgas-corpse of ghoulish humor and puns better than the one I just lobbed out there. Keaton previously hyped up the movie as being "really fucking good," and I'm not gonna be the one to say he's wrong. Because the trailer looks flipping perfect.

So many callbacks to the good ol' days, from the striped sandworms of Saturn (and some sweet-looking animation) to Lydia's father Charles, whose death is what kicks off this return to glory for the ghost with the most to the familiarly tiny head of Harry the Hunter.

Beyond Keaton being back in all his gruff-voiced glory, the new pic brings Winona Ryder and Catherine O'Hara back as daughter Lydia and mother Delia Deetz, respectively, with Jenna Ortega joining the fray as the generational third, Astrid. Other co-stars include Justin Theroux, Monica Bellucci (as Beetlejuice's sewn-up wife), Willem Dafoe and Burn Gorman. And wait a minute, who's this surprising new cast member? It's Danny DeVito, boyeeeeee!

Batman and The Penguin are back together again! Or at least Michael Keaton and DeVito are, even if they're not in the signature costumes they wore for Tim Burton's superhero sequel. This thing can't get more perfect, unless Michelle Pfeiffer is hiding somewhere.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice — which was nearly given the oddball homage title Beetlejuice 2024 A.D., which is legit name-checked on the title screen — is set to rise up into theaters on Friday, September 6, among many other big summer blockbusters hitting the 2024 movie schedule.

This year was the year Warner Bros. greenlighted some ideas that a-listers had really been kicking around for years. Both Tim Burton’s sequel Beetlejuice Beetlejuice and Kevin Cosner’s western saga Horizon had been ideas the two directors had been kicking around for about 35 years, and both are coming to theaters in 2024. As part of the upcoming 2024 movies slate Warner Bros. presented at CinemaCon, we got to hear from all the Beetlejuice OGs about their journey to this project, and Michael Keaton also had one big takeaway for the fans. 

Speaking to a packed crowd at Caesar’s Palace, Warner Bros. touted out none other than Tim Burton, Catherine O’Hara, Justin Theroux, Monica Bellucci, Willem Dafoe and Michael Keaton himself. It was a crowded stage, and Winona Ryder and Jenna Ortega weren’t even there. Part of the reason the movie was probably able to land such great talent is the fact that A. most of but not all the Beetlejuice OG’s came back but also B. the movie has lived on in the pop culture vernacular and is amongst Burton’s most-loved films, so it makes sense a-listers – or as Burton noted “Academy Award winners” – were interested. 

Keaton’s actually already seen what's done of the film in all its glory and here’s the message he wanted to impart on the fans, f-bomb and all. 

Keaton's been enthusiastic about Beetlejuice 2 a lot already, and why not? The sequel is also a project Burton and Michael Keaton had been bandying about for years. Keaton was pretty candid about the idea of Beetlejuice Beetlejuice ultimately getting greenlighted and it sounds like a second movie was always something he and Burton would casually talk about; however, there were roadblocks for a long time. You wouldn't have known it from the attention to detail and care in the Beetlejuice Beetlejuice trailer, but it took a while for an idea to form, and Keaton talked about how easy it is for time to pass before you return to a legacy project in Hollywood. 

Tim Burton admitted it actually took the decades that have passed for him to latch onto a Beetlejuice 2 idea that would work, but his “eureka” moment sounds like it came when he realized he could revisit a “weird teenager” character again and make that a focal point in the new movie. Per Burton: 

Other franchise OG Catherine O’Hara also humorously noted “for the last 30 years at least” she’d been “asked over and over again” if the movie was being made. She joked she thought for a while that the movie was just being made without her, leading to the interview questions, but on a candid note she was please to really be asked back when Burton decided to make it happen. 

But again, the big note that I think the cast wanted to impart on everyone attending is that they think the movie is just great. It’s not finished, as Burton revealed he has to go back to London tomorrow for more work, but if there’s one thing Keaton would like to impart on any audiences even casually interested in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, it’s this bullish final note:  “The last cast was great, this cast is so good, everyone's so frigging funny… really it’s true.”

When the absolutely terribly titled Beetlejuice Beetlejuice arrives in theaters later this year, we’ll see the return of several characters from the original film. The Beetlejuice 2 cast includes the return of Michael Keaton of course, as well as Winona Ryder and Catherine O’Hara, but another actor is nowhere to be seen. Some new Beetlejuice 2 details might shed some light on why the character of Charles Deetz is missing.

Jeffrey Jones played the role of Lydia’s father Charles Deetz in the original Beetlejuice cast, and while the reason the actor won’t be in the sequel likely has a lot to do with Jones running afoul of the law a few years back, the way the character was going to be written out of the sequel was less clear... especially since the rest of the family is in the movie. But EW has revealed that the Beetlejuice sequel will open with three generations of Deetz women, O’Hara’s Delia, Ryder’s Lydia, and Jenna Ortega’s Astrid, Lydia’s daughter, dealing with a death in the family.

While the story doesn’t reveal who died, it does suggest that the funeral could be for Charles Deetz. That would certainly make sense based on the fact that the actor isn’t part of the cast, as far as we know. Killing the character off would be an easy way to explain the absence. 

Of course, considering Beetlejuice deals heavily with the afterlife, the fact that somebody died is no reason for them to not appear in the movie. Perhaps Charles found some way to move on and avoid becoming a spirit. Unless he's just just stuck in the waiting room for the entire film.

Whoever has died, the death is the catalyst for whatever the events of Beetlejuice Beetlejuice are. After more than three decades a sequel to Beetlejuice has finally happened. There have been countless Beetlejuice sequel rumors over the decades, and there was even a script for Beetlejuice Goes Hawaiian once, but the previous attempts at a sequel never came to pass.

While the Beetlejuice sequel may have a terrible name, it will hopefully be everything that movie fans have been waiting for. A first look at Michael Keaton as Beetlejuice in the EW story that the actor hasn’t missed a step. The addition of Jenna Ortega, one of the hottest young stars in Hollywood, is a huge addition to the cast.

Now we just need to see it all in action. A trailer for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is expected to drop pretty much anytime. That may confirm exactly who is dead, and how the death ties into the rest of the story. We’re very excited to see it when it happens. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice‘s release date is currently set for September 6, 2024.

Catherine O'Hara has joined The Last of Us Season 2, and I have some ideas on who she could play. As an avid fan of the show and the video games, I can't wait to see how this comedic actress is incorporated, so let's talk about why these two characters would be perfect for her.

As someone who considers herself an avid fan of The Last of Us in general, from the video game to the hit HBO show, I have been on the hunt for casting news regarding the show's second season. So far, there have been plenty of significant announcements, from Isabel Merced playing Dina to Kaitlyn Dever being picked for the villain role of Season 2, where she'll play Abby. But never – and I mean never – could I have imagined in my wildest dreams that Max would announce that Catherine O'Hara would play a role in this show. 

Now, don't get me wrong, I'm a huge fan of Catherine O'Hara, from her time as Moira Rose as part of the Schitt's Creek cast, to her co-starring role in one of the best Christmas movies ever Home Alone, to her iconic role in Beetlejuice. She's hilarious in everything she does. But The Last of Us was a show that never really screamed Catherine O'Hara to me. 

However, the more I think about it, the more I know that there are two roles in the video game that I could easily see her sinking her teeth into and making her own. And today, that's exactly who we are going to talk about.

The Seraphite Prophet  

This is my leading theory for many reasons. 

The Seraphite Prophet in The Last of Us Part II is like a villain from afar. We never see her – all we know is that the Seraphites, the people Ellie faces when she arrives in Seattle aside from facing Abby's crew, wage war against the WLF (Washington Liberation Front) in her name. 

However, we do know that she is a messianic figure. The Seraphites worship her, pray to her, build shrines to her – the whole shebang. We see plenty of murals of her as we cross the city, whether on the wall or the side of a car. But we never once see her in person. 

That's mainly because she was executed in the story – we don't see the execution, but we know it happened from what other characters tell us. It's the main reason the Seraphites continue fighting against the WLF. 

Catherine O'Hara has this enigmatic energy in most of her characters, but she is also great at playing whimsical roles with a hint of comedy. If she uses both in this role, she could highlight this usually shrouded-in-mystery character from the game. Heck, she could even make this prophet terrifying. 

It would be an excellent opportunity to expand on a character that we know exists but we really don't know as a person – sort of like what they did with Bill and Frank's legendary episode in Season 1. 

However, while this is my top guess, there is one other person I could see her playing.

Lev And Yara's Mother  

Alright, hear me out. 

At first, this might be a bit wild, but I could also see O'Hara playing the unnamed mother of Yara and Lev, the two children accompanying Abby in the city who are on the run from Seraphites. 

Lev and Yara's mother is left behind on the island when they run for their lives since Lev transitioned into becoming a boy – something that was a groundbreaking LGBTQ+ stepping stone in the world of video games. Lev feels awful for leaving her behind and ends up going back to try and save her, but he kills his mom in self-defense. 

We only see her for a bit before she is killed, but I think if O'Hara were to play the character, we could get some real insight into how the Seraphite's mind works and expand on that game's partial antagonist. O’Hara is good with comedic and whimsical roles, but I could totally see her portraying a character that is stuck in the mindset of a religious zealot because of a prophet. 

It also lines up with O'Hara's role being a guest role, as she would only be there for an episode or two. 

I will say that the chances of this happening are a bit slim, as both Lev and Yara are Asian American, and Catherina O'Hara is not, but this wouldn't be the first time the race of the characters has been changed. Joel Miller was Caucasian in the game, but he is portrayed by the talented Pedro Pascal, a Chilean-American actor. I could see them switching around races because Lev and Yara have yet to be cast.

Honestly, I will be okay with whoever O'Hara plays because she kills it in every role she does, but these two are my top picks. Or she could wind up playing a new character entirely, as Melanie Lynskey did. Who knows?

John Candy is one of those stars who had you ever met him on the street, you want to believe would have been just as nice in real life as he appeared on the big screen. Luckily, according to all sources, Candy really was that great a guy, and his frequent co-star Catherine O’Hara says Candy was so open to interacting with fans he used to do comedy bits with them on the street.

Catherine O’Hara first worked with John Candy on SCTV one of the best sketch comedy shows of all time, before the two went on to make movies such as Home Alone together. It seems Candy would keep his improv comedy skills from his Second City days fresh by interacting with fans. O’Hara tells People that when people met him they would want to do some sort of comedy bit with him, and he would often oblige. The actress explained…  

I’ll be honest, if I had met John Candy on the street, the last thing I would want to do is try and do some improv comedy bit. I would fully expect that he would be so much better than me at it that it would never work. But it seems Candy did his best to make the fans who did try to be funny with him feel like they were hilarious. That had to have been incredible. 

John Candy was one of the biggest comedy stars of the '80s and '90s. The best John Candy movies are also among the best comedy films of all time. 

While it might be surprising to hear that John Candy would do improv comedy with strangers on the streets, the idea that he would do that certainly isn’t that surprising. Whenever you hear a story about John Candy, it involves him being lovely. Catherine O’Hara, who admits she had something of a crush on Candy, says that one of the nice things about talking to people about the Great Outdoors actor today is being able to tell people that he was exactly the way they’d hope he’d be. She continued… 

John Candy was the best. Some of Candy's most hilarious movie quotes have become truly iconic. Of course, it's possible that some of Candy's best comedy was done at shopping malls with strangers. 

Beloved around the world for her many iconic roles, Schitt's Creek is one of the best Catherine O’Hara TV shows. After all, it's the series that gave us the iconic character Moira Rose. But other fans of her storied resume may be more familiar with her time as a staple on one of the best sketch comedy shows, SCTV, along with other notables like Eugene Levy and Martin Short. And believe it or not, O’Hara almost became a part of the Saturday Night Live cast in the ‘80s. It's a “what if”  scenario that apparently inspired some less than truthful stories about why she didn’t go through with the gig. Which in turn inspired the legendary comedic talent herself to clear the air and set the record straight.

What Are The “BS Stories” About Catherine O’Hara’s Short SNL Tenure?

In an interview with People, Catherine O’Hara set the record straight regarding what exactly happened. As one might expect, the Argylle star didn’t pass up her shot at being part of the infamous 1980-1981 season because of previous rumors of intimidation. Addressing this story head on, here’s how Catherine began recalling how it all really went down:

As for the rumors as to who may have “scared” the acclaimed actress off of SNL, it's been said that then-head writer Michael O’Donoghue was the supposed culprit. She previously addressed that assumption during an episode of WTF with Marc Maron. While peaking with Maron (via Vulture), Catherine O’Hara gave this account of her SNL experience:

The timing couldn’t have worked out more perfectly, as the Canadian grown SCTV and NBC were about to go into business together. Which gave the rising star the out that she needed, as her “comedy family” came calling.

Why Did Catherine O’Hara Really Drop Out Of SNL?

As previously mentioned, the show in question that happened to serve as Catherine O'Hara's big break was SCTV, which was kind of like Canada’s answer to SNL. While it originated on the country’s Global Television Network in 1976, there was a span between 1981 and 1983 where NBC aired the series with longer than usual 90-minute episodes. 

With that pick-up now a done deal, and only a week and a half in the books at SNL, the eventual Beetlejuice star made her decision to go back to SCTV. And who could blame here when, in her recent People interview, she described that choice as follows:

A good comedy family will always steer you right, and you can typically make memories along the way. That’s part of why Catherine O’Hara’s Home Alone reunion with Macaulay Culkin was such a beautiful moment to see. It’s also part of why, despite missing out on becoming part of Saturday Night Live history, O’Hara’s choice to return to SCTV was the better move. Just as the woman herself pointed out, everything lined up the way it was meant to.

When thinking of “former child stars,” it’s’ likely that Macaulay Culkin, known for his role as Kevin McCallister in two of the best Christmas Movies of all time, Home Alone and its sequel, Lost in New York, comes to mind. Despite a decline in his fame over the years, the Good Son performer is among several former child stars who continue to work in the industry. Recently, the actor experienced an emotional reunion with his on-screen mom, Catherine O’Hara, during the unveiling of his Hollywood Walk of Fame star. The heartfelt moment between the Getting Even With Dad star and his “fake mom” stirred deep emotions, marking a poignant highlight in the ceremony.

Macaulay Culkin's fiancée, 34-year-old actress Brenda Song, accompanied him at the event, along with their two kids, a baby boy born earlier this year and their two-year-old son, Dakota. Natasha Lyonne, a former child star and the 43-year-old actor’s Party Monster co-star, also attended and took the stage after Catherine O'Hara to deliver a speech. The former child star took the stage to share his own speech, wrapping it up with a nod to his famous character Kevin McCallister: "To wrap things up and in the spirit of the holiday season, I just want to say, Merry Christmas, ya filthy animals." While Saturday Night Live may be the most recognizable and, easily, the longest-lasting sketch comedy series in American history, there have been others, in case you didn’t know. In fact, there are quite a few legendary comedic actors who got their start in sketch comedy and have even been prominently featured in some great SNL sketches as hosts, but have never called Studio 8H home… as regular cast members, at least. The following are some of our favorite well-known masters of mirth who did sketch comedy, but weren't SNL cast members. 

Jordan Peele

Before becoming known as the mastermind behind some of the best horror movies in recent memory, Jordan Peele made a name for himself as a MADtv cast member, and later, as one-half of Key & Peele’s eponymous duo on Comedy Central. The Academy Award winner was actually offered to be on SNL, but was unable to break from his contract with MADtv, which is why he left the Fox series on bad terms after five years.

Carol Burnett 

Carol Burnett has been one of the most essential names in comedy for decades, but you can find much of her most iconic performances — such as a timeless Gone with the Wind parody — on her own long-running variety show, The Carol Burnett Show. Following her dramatic turn on Better Call Saul, a viral campaign was launched for her to host SNL, which, very shockingly, would be the first time.

John Candy

The late John Candy is one of the most beloved comedic talents of all time, known for great movies like Uncle Buck and Planes, Trains & Automobiles. For years, the actor’s claim to fame was Canada’s SCTV, on which he debuted characters like Johnny LaRue, whom he based off of rude people he knew and “wanted to get back at.”

Dave Chappelle

Any time that Dave Chappelle has hosted SNL, it always seems to spark controversy for one reason or another, which should come as no shock to anyone who watched the Emmy-nominated Chappelle’s Show. Running from 2003 to 2006 on Comedy Central, the series reflected the comic’s risqué, but thought-provoking, humor and featured now iconic bits including recreations of true stories about Rick James and Prince and an epic Wayne Brady cameo.

Jamie Foxx

Multi-talented Academy Award winner and Grammy winner Jamie Foxx has proved to be an absolute natural when he shows up at Studio 8H. After all, the Spider-Man movie villain actor — who also had his own sitcom featuring SNL alum Garrett Morris called The Jamie Foxx Show — did get his start on In Living Color from 1991 to 1994.

Eric Idle

There are some really weird SNL sketches that toe the line between terrible and amazing, but none have reached quite the level of distinct surrealism that Monty Python’s Flying Circus is defined by. One of the most famous members of the eponymous British comedy troupe is Eric Idle (i.e. “Wink-wink, nudge-nudge, say no more”), who would headline at Studio 8H four times in the ‘70s.

Catherine O'Hara

In addition to her epic film career — including the Home Alone movies, Beetlejuice, and The Nightmare Before Christmas, to name a few — Catherine O’Hara’s small screen career has earned her two Emmy awards. Her more recent win was for playing Moira Rose in the Schitt’s Creek cast, but there first was as a writer for SCTV, on which she also inspired laughs as a cast member.

Bob Odenkirk 

Future Breaking Bad cast member Bob Odenkirk actually wrote some beloved SNL sketches, such as Chris Farley’s first appearance as Matt Foley. His skills as a sketch comedy performer, however, could be seen in the 1990s on the short-lived The Ben Stiller Show, the more successful HBO series, Mr. Show with Bob & David, and its Netflix original revival, W/ Bob & David, in 2015.

Michael Richards

Years before starring in the Seinfeld cast as one of the funniest sitcom characters ever, Cosmo Kramer, Michael Richards portrayed various characters on Fridays. The short-lived sketch comedy — essentially ABC’s answer to Saturday Night Live — is also where the three-time Emmy winner met Seinfeld creator Larry David.

Jim Carrey

There are few living comedic legends as widely celebrated as Jim Carrey, who has hosted SNL a number of times and even signed on as the show’s resident Joe Biden for a brief period. What first led the Ace Ventura: Pet Detective and Dumb and Dumber actor on the path to stardom was his four-year stint on In Living Color, on which he debuted characters like Fire Marshall Bill, which came out of a failed sketch idea, apparently.

Aziz Ansari

Along with The League star Paul Scheer and Children’s Hospital actor Rob Huebel, Aziz Ansari formed a comedy troupe called Human Giant, who led their own titular sketch series that lasted for 20 episodes on MTV. The comic — who has also hosted SNL before — saw his star power rise when he joined the Parks and Recreation cast and went on to play one of best South Asian TV characters in recent memory on Netflix’s Master of None, which he also co-created. 

Rowan Atkinson

While most people associate him best with Mr. Bean these days, there are many great Rowan Atkinson movies and TV shows that pre-date his debut as the famous man-child. For instance, one of the the British comedian’s earliest claims to fame was a sketch comedy series called Not the Nine O'Clock News, which ran from 1979 to 1982 on the BBC.

Eric Wareheim

A series that best defines the surreal humor that Adult Swim is known for is Tim & Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!, in which Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim portray various characters in strange situations in sketches the drip of a low-budget. Wareheim has done many notable things on his own — such as his starring role on Master of None and recurring character on Bob’s Burger — but the duo still works together on shows like Tim & Eric’s Bedtime Stories or the sitcom parody Beef House from 2020.

Goldie Hawn

A show that largely inspired SNL was Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-In — which, also like SNL, served as a jumping off point for many stellar careers, such as Lily Tomlin and Richard Dawson. Perhaps its most icon and successful alum, however, is one-time Hollywood It Girl Goldie Hawn, who won an Oscar for Cactus Flower very shortly after leaving the show and before going on to lead classics like Private Benjamin and Overboard.

Eugene Levy

Before starring in the American Pie cast, before Christopher Guest’s mockumentaries, and before many other great Eugene Levy movies and TV shows, the Canadian actor gained notoriety as party of Second City. His stint on the eponymous, Emmy-winning sketch series, SCTV, also saw the beginning of professional and personal relationship with the likes of John Candy, his Schitt’s Creek co-star Catherine O’Hara, and plenty more.

Flip Wilson

In the early 1970s, before SNL’s premiere, Flip Wilson hosted his own variety show, which was one of the most popular series on television during its four-year run on NBC. The most famous character the comedian portrayed on The Flip Wilson Show was a boisterous woman named Geraldine, whom he resurrected when he hosted SNL in 1983.

John Cleese

John Cleese — also known for writing and starring in the classic con artist movie, A Fish Called Wanda, and voicing the King in the Shrek movies — has never hosted SNL, but did appear on an episode with fellow Monty Python member, Michael Palin, in 1997. In addition to a cold open poking fun at the recently instituted TV ratings system, Cleese and Palin performed a special recreation of one of the most famous Monty Python’s Flying Circus sketches, “Dead Parrot.”

Bobby Lee

Known for characters like counter-productive translator Bae Sung, wannabe tough guy Tank, or Bruce Lee’s cousin, Bobby Lee is one of MADtv’s most notable success stories. The Korean-American became a staple of the Harold and Kumar movies, landed recurring roles on show like Magnum P.I. and Reservation Dogs, has moonlighted as the host of podcasts TigerBelly and Bad Friends, and plenty more to boast.

David Cross

From playing Tobias Funke — a character who could totally ruin Thanksgiving — on Arrested Development to appearing in the Alvin and the Chipmunks movies, David Cross has a pretty stacked and reputable resume. What set the path for the comedian’s success was co-headlining (along with Bob Odenkirk) HBO’s Mr. Show, on which he debuted a character who got his own movie in 2002 called Run Ronnie Run.

David Alan Grier

Arguably David Alan Grier’s most famous character from his In Living Color tenure was Antoine Meriwether — one half of a duo also consisting of Damon Wayans’ Blaine Edwards. The They Cloned Tyrone cast member — who hosted SNL a couple of times in the ‘90s — reprised the flamboyant film critic on an SNL episode hosted by Wayans.

Rick Moranis

The beloved Rick Moranis has starred in many funny movies, such as Ghostbusters from 1984 and 1983’s Strange Brew. The latter was the film debut of Bob McKenzie — a stereotypical hoser he originated on SCTV alongside Dave Thomas as his brother, Doug.

Tracey Ullman

Tracey Ullman was cast on a few different sketch comedy shows — such as BBC’s A Kick Up the Eighties — before becoming the star of her own in 1987, which also saw the debut appearances of the Simpsons. Fox’s The Tracey Ullman Show was actually just one of many sketch series that the British comedian would headline, such as HBO’s Tracey Takes On… and Tracey Ullman’s State of the Union.

Keegan-Michael Key

In 2021, Keegan-Michael Key became the first MADtv alum to host SNL, which saw him reunite with this fellow Schmigadoon cast member, Cecily Strong. The episode — in which Key broke into laughter during a sketch featuring the Muppets —  was certainly a Season 46 highlight, but could have been even better if he brought back characters from some of the best Key & Peele sketches, like Luther.

Jennifer Saunders

Arguably, the most iconic duo Jennifer Saunders is a part of comes from Absolutely Fabulous, in which she plays Edina opposite Joanna Lumley’s Patsy. However, a sketch comedy that both predates and surpasses that long-running Britcom is French and Saunders, in which Saunders and her fellow Death on the Nile cast member, Dawn French, cleverly send-up everyday life in the U.K. and American cinema.

Larry David

In a story shared to Vanity Fair that mirrors one of the best Seinfeld episodes, the sitcom’s co-creator, Larry David, once quit his SNL writing gig in a rage, only to return on Monday acting like it never happened. Years later, he would make semi-regular appearances on the show as Bernie Sanders but, prior to all of this, the Curb Your Enthusiasm star was a performer on Fridays from 1980 to 1982.

Tim Heidecker

Tim Heidecker is best known as one half of the eponymous duo from Adult Swim’s hit sketch comedy series, Tim & Eric Awesome Show, Great Job! On his own, the Us actor has made waves in the comedy world with the 2012 dramedy, The Comedy, or for an ongoing, multi-media big following his fictionalized self’s murder trial.

Carrie Brownstein

Carrie Brownstein has been on SNL a few times — including once as herself for an edition of “What Up With That?” that did not go as planned, thanks to Samuel L. Jackson’s F-bomb. The musician and actor has also shared the screen with several Studio 8H all-stars on Portlandia, including her co-star and co-creator of the Portland, Oregon-based sketch show: Fred Armisen.

Stephen Fry

Before earning a Golden Globe nomination for his performance in Wilde in 1999, later appearing in Amazon’s adaptation of Red, White and Royal Blue, and other versatile achievements, Stephen Fry was partners in comedy with House’s Hugh Laurie on BBC’s A Bit of Fry & Laurie form 1989 to 1995. Earlier than that, the pair were on another British sketch comedy show with future Harry Potter movies stars Emma Thompson and Robbie Coltrane called Alfresco. 

Michael Ian Black

Michael Ian Black is, perhaps, best known from Wet Hot American Summer and its Netflix original series spin-offs, but many of his collaborators on that cult comedy favorite — including director David Wain and his co-writer Michael Showalter — were on MTV’s The State together. Black later worked with Wain and Showalter on a sketch series called Stella and then headlined a sketch comedy/sitcom hybrid with Showalter for Comedy Central called Michael & Michael Have Issues in 2009.

Amy Schumer

One of the biggest names in stand-up is Amy Schumer, whose notoriety expanded after her Golden Globe-nominated performance opposite SNL’s Bill Hader in 2015’s Trainwreck, which she also wrote. Before then, however, the comedian’s stardom certainly rose after she scored her own Comedy Central show called Inside Amy Schumer, which won three Emmys — including Outstanding Variety Sketch Series.

Tim Conway

It may have been Carol’s show, but one could argue that the funniest cast member from The Carol Burnett Show was Tim Conway, who passed away in 2019. Some of his most memorable moments do not even involve the eponymous host, such as a sketch where he plays a clumsy doctor that had co-star, Harvey Korman, in stitches.

Amanda Bynes

Kenan Thompson — one of the longest-running SNL actors ever — is easily one of the biggest stars to start out on All That (essentially SNL, but with kids), but his co-star, Amanda Bynes, was the first to get her own sketch comedy series: The Amanda Show. Her post-Nickelodeon career includes leading the sitcom What I Like About You and movies like the Shakespeare-inspired rom-com, She’s the Man.

We still have nothing but love for our favorite iconic SNL actors, but also recognize that they do not make up all of our most cherished heroes in sketch comedy.

After hearing all about it for what seems like the entirety of the year, David Yates’ Pain Hustlers, the new 2023 Netflix original film starring Emily Blunt as a single mother who gets wrapped up in a massive criminal conspiracy, is finally here. The much talked about movie, which also stars Chris Evans, Andy Garcia, and a host of others, is one of the big Netflix arrivals in October, and introduces viewers to the wild and crazy world of pharmaceuticals. 

After watching the movie, or at least reading about it, there’s a good chance you’re wondering where you’ve seen all the actors before and why they look so familiar. Well, worry no more, because we are about to break down all the major players in the Pain Hustlers cast and some of their major roles leading into the new crime drama.

Emily Blunt (Liza Drake)

Leading off the Pain Hustlers cast is Emily Blunt, who takes on the role of Liza Drake. Liz is a down-on-her-luck single mother who takes a job at Zanna Therapeutics as a way to come up with enough cash to take care of her daughter, but she becomes entangled in an incredibly lucrative yet morally bankrupt scheme centered around pharmaceuticals.

Though Blunt has never appeared in a Best Picture winner, that could soon change thanks to her outstanding portrayal of Kitty Oppenheimer in Christopher Nolan’s critically acclaimed biopic Oppenheimer. Blunt, who has been one of the most well-known actresses for the better part of a decade, has also given commanding performances in everything from A Quiet Place and its sequel to The Devil Wears Prada to Edge of Tomorrow and so much more. 

Chris Evans (Pete Brenner)

Next up is Chris Evans, who shows up in Pain Hustlers as Pete Brenner, an unsavory executive at Zanna Therapeutics who brings Liza Drake into the fold and transforms both of their lives in the process. Unlike some of Evans’ more upstanding characters, Pete will do anything and everything to get what he wants.

Best known for his nearly decade-long portrayal of Steve Rogers, a.k.a. Captain America, in some of the best Marvel movies, Evans has been a driving force in Hollywood for well over two decades at this point. With memorable appearances in everything from Not Another Teen Movie to Knives Out, there are plenty of reasons why we just can’t get enough of him. At the same time, there are other lesser known Evans movies you may have forgotten like Snowpiercer, Gifted, and Sunshine. 

Catherine O'Hara (Jackie Drake) 

Catherine O’Hara shows up in Pain Hustlers as Jackie Drake, Liza’s greedy and vivacious mother who later joins her daughter on the payroll of the Zanna sales team and a part of the massive plan that makes them all filthy rich.

Some will remember O’Hara as Kate McCallister from the Home Alone cast, while others will look back on fondly from her time on Schitt’s Creek. Regardless, she has been established as one of the funniest actors on the planet for well over 40 years at this point. If you look back on some of the best ‘80s movies like Beetlejuice, After Hours, and Heartburn, you’ll see her remarkable skills, as is the case for every decade since. She’s also set to appear in Matthew Vaughn’s Argyle, which is slated to land on Apple TV+ in early 2024. 

Andy Garcia (Dr. Jack Neel) 

Veteran actor Andy Garcia pops up in Pain Hustlers as Dr. Jack Neel, the founder of the Zanna company and the mastermind behind its most popular product: Lonafen. A dynamic character with dubious motivations, Dr. Jack is a major force in the new Netflix original.

Throughout his career, Garcia has played characters like casino magnate Terry Benedict in the Ocean’s Eleven cast, Vincent Mancini, the illegitimate son of Sonny Corelone in The Godfather Part III, and unforgettable FBI agent Giuseppe "George Stone" Petri in The Untouchables, to name only a few. Chances are, if there’s a big crime movie that has come out in the past 35 years, Garcia has either shown up in it or was up for one of the major roles. 

Chloe Coleman (Phoebe Drake)

Chloe Coleman takes on the role of Liza Drake’s young daughter Phoebe in Pain Hustlers – the latest in a long line of high-profile projects for the up-and-coming actress.

Ever since making her professional acting debut on a 2013 episode of Glee, Coleman has popped up on one popular show after another, including Transparent, Big Little Lies, The Resident, and Upload. However, she is more well known for her big-screen work, which includes starring roles in movies like My Spy, Gunpowder Milkshake, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, and a little movie called Avatar: The Way of Water. Coleman is next set to re-team with Dave Bautista in the upcoming My Spy 2. 

Jay Duplass (Brent Larkin)

Jay Duplass shows up in Pain Hustlers as Brent Larkin, one of Pete Brenner’s colleagues and rivals in the Zanna marketing department.

If Duplass looks familiar to you, it could be because of his starring role on the hit Amazon original series Transparent, on which he played Josh Pfefferman throughout the show’s entire run. His other TV acting credits include shows like Animals, Search Party, and Room 104, which he co-created with his brother, Mark Duplass. Duplass’ film credits include the likes of Paper Towns, Horse Girl, and Landline. 

Brian d'Arcy James (Dr. Nathan Lydell)

Brian d’Arcy James takes on the role of Dr. Nathan Lydell, one of the first doctors who sign on for Liza Drake’s scheme in Pain Hustlers.

Throughout his career, James has given audiences wonderful performances in movies like Bombshell, Molly’s Game, West Side Story (Officer Krupke, anyone?), First Man, and the all-time great journalism movie, Spotlight, in which he played Boston Globe reporter Matty Carroll. His TV credits include everything from Rescue Me to Smash to 13 Reasons Why to Hawkeye.

Adorably enough, Schitt’s Creek stars Annie Murphy and Catherine O’Hara both have animated movies in theaters at the same time right now. Annie Murphy plays a (potentially) evil mermaid in the Dreamworks movie Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken, and O’Hara plays another water-based role as Brook in Pixar’s Elemental. When CinemaBlend caught up with Murphy, we had a pitch to bring to her in light of the fun coincidence.

What if Schitt’s Creek came back via animation special someday? Plenty of popular TV shows have done it in the past, including Community, Ted Lasso and Supernatural. When I dropped the idea here’s what Murphy had to say: 

Start the petition, Schitt’s Creek fans! How fun would that be to see the Rose family back in animation form. Sure, the events of the finale was absolutely everything we hoped for between David and Patrick’s wedding and Annie pursuing her dream as a publicist in New York City, but we have to say, we’re curious about where the Roses are years later. 

Ahead of Murphy and O’Hara having animated films among the 2023 new movie releases, I also asked the actress if she had conversed with her Schitt’s Creek co-star at all about them both going down similar avenues as of late. In her words:  

It sounds like a great excuse for Annie Murphy to go see her TV mom at her cottage, wherever that is! Of course, Schitt’s Creek is still Murphy’s most beloved role, but the actress has been really killing it with a ton of different projects as of late. Murphy starred alongside Salma Hayek in Black Mirror Season 6’s premiere in an episode that explored a future where streaming services could exploit one’s life for TV show content thanks to the fine print in the “terms & conditions.” 

Annie Murphy’s latest role is her first time really dipping her toe in a massive voice role, aside from small appearances in Robot Chicken and Fairfax. In Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken, the actress gets to turn the idea of The Little Mermaid on ones head by voicing a mermaid named Chelsea in a world where they are the bad guys and krakens are the good guys. The actress stars alongside Lana Condor as Ruby Gillman and Jane Fonda as Ruby’s grandmama, along with the likes of Toni Collette, Colman Domingo, Will Forte and Liza Koshy. Unfortunately, it’s well-documented that Hollywood has a tendency to be sexist and ageist as told by various women in the industry over the years. As we continue to observe Women’s History Month this year, we’re looking at the actresses across movies and television currently working today that have carved out a place for themselves despite the status quo favoring younger actresses, whilst it's the norm for the male actors to enjoy careers well into their 60s, 70s and beyond. 

It was reported a few years back by the Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media that while characters over 50 make up a fifth of characters on television, only a fourth of them are played by women (via Buzzfeed). With that in mind, there’s a gender gap with opportunities being favored for older men much more than women. Thankfully, these actresses have found a way to thrive in Hollywood after turning 50.  

Michelle Yeoh 

Recently, at the 2023 Oscars, the ceremony actually celebrated numerous actresses that are thriving after 50, including Best Actress winner, Michelle Yeoh. The Everything Everywhere All At Once lead accepted the award not only as the first Asian actress to win in the category, but as a “beacon” of hope for more women her age to be seen in major roles. As she accepted the trophy, she said: "Ladies, don't let anybody tell you you are past your prime." 

Yeoh has been over 50 in Hollywood for over a decade now, and is enjoying an exciting era in her career by finding key roles in successful movies like Crazy Rich Asians and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, or finding empowering roles in recent TV series like Star Trek: Discovery and The Witcher: Blood Origin. 

Jamie Lee Curtis

Yeoh’s Everything Everywhere co-star Jamie Lee Curtis also took home an Oscar for the movie in the Best Supporting Actress category after over 45 years working in Hollywood. Curtis was a teenager when she found her breakout role in Halloween, but decade after decade she has continued to be cast in exciting roles, especially after turning 50. In Curtis’ fifties and sixties the actress has revived her role as Laurie Strode in a new Halloween trilogy, starred in Knives Out and has a wealth of roles on the horizon, including Borderlands and Haunted Mansion. 

Angela Bassett 

Curtis’ fellow nominee in the Best Supporting Actress category in 2023 was Angela Bassett, for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, who also remains a working icon into her mid-sixties. Aside from starring as Queen Ramonda in the Marvel franchise, the actress continues to lead the network series 9-1-1 along with appearing in multiple seasons of American Horror Story and recently being part of the Mission: Impossible franchise.

Helen Mirren

One of the most iconic actresses to consistently nab interesting roles for herself following turning 50 is Helen Mirren. The British talent hit the milestone in 1995, before she’d made some of her most beloved and best movies, like 2001’s Gosford Park, 2003’s Calendar Girls or her 2006 Oscar-winning performance in The Queen. Mirren has continued to play leading roles in the past decade, such as starring in the Red films, her incredible role in the Fast and the Furious movies along with leading 1923 and Shazam! Fury of the Gods within the past year. 

Jane Fonda & Lily Tomlin

While I could certainly talk about Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin in their own right, the fact that this pair got themselves their own hit comedy series, Grace and Frankie, in their late seventies (across seven seasons, no less) deserves to be celebrated. These two have modeled, brought life to and joked about the lives of older women who are best friends, and we’re so blessed it exists. The pair hit 50 in the late ‘80s and thrived, remaining booked and busy. Among the 2023 new movie releases, they are in back-to-back movies together, too, 80 For Brady and Moving On. 

Rita Moreno

One of Rita Moreno’s first roles was in 1952’s Singin’ in the Rain. Seventy years later her career is still very much popping, between starring in Netflix’s sitcom, One Day At A Time, and voicing the role of Carmen Sandiego for the original animated series. This year, Moreno also starred in 80 For Brady and has joined the Fast and the Furious franchise as Dominic Toretto’s grandma. 

Sally Field

Speaking of 80 For Brady leads, Sally Field has continued to remain relevant and very much respected in Hollywood at the age of 76. From being nominated for an Oscar for her role in Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln to bringing new life to Aunt May in The Amazing Spider-Man movies, or starring in critically acclaimed movies like Hello, My Name Is Doris and Spoiler Alert, Field has continued to impress after a massive first half of her career. 

Emma Thompson

In the nearly 15 years that Emma Thompson has been over 50, she has accomplished a lot. She gave a powerful performance as P.L. Travers in the sweet Saving Mr. Banks' movie alongside Tom Hanks, she gave Cruella a formidable foe of her own in the titular 2021 Disney prequel, and tackled the usually taboo topic of exploring sexuality past one’s “prime” and filmed nude scenes for Good Luck To You, Leo Grande. 

Ming-Na Wen

When Ming-Na Wen turned 50 back in 2013, she was just getting her start playing Melinda May on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, a badass and highly-skilled operative she continued to play for over 100 episodes. Since finding success with that series, which is now her most famous role outside Mulan, Wen has joined the Star Wars universe as Fennec Shand, a female bounty hunter and master assassin. 

Catherine O’Hara

Catherine O’Hara is well-known to an entirely new generation than those who grew up seeing her in movies like Best In Show, Beetlejuice or Home Alone, thanks to her beloved role in Schitt’s Creek as Moira Rose. O’Hara will go down in history as playing one of the funniest TV characters in a big role she found well after 50. 

Jane Lynch

Jane Lynch booked her most popular role of Sue Sylvester on Glee right as she was turning 50 and played the character for six seasons before finding all sorts of work in showbiz otherwise. She notably voices the role of Calhoun in the Wreck-It Ralph movies, along with having major roles in the hit shows The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and Party Down and with hosting 75 episodes of the original celebrity game show, Celebrity Game Night. 

Julia Louis-Dreyfus

The Seinfeld star not only found herself a whole other well-loved TV show to lead and produce after 50 with HBO’s Veep, which she also won nine consecutive Emmy awards for, but she’s a major player in the Marvel universe now. Julia Louis-Dreyfus has been consistently quick on her feet on the comedy front and proved to be an impressive dramatic actress as well, with roles in films like Enough Said. 

Jennifer Coolidge

Then, there’s Jennifer Coolidge’s recent comeback for The White Lotus that has the actress literally everywhere right now. Along with the 61-year-old recently winning her first Emmy for her hilarious role as Tanya McQuoid, Coolidge has had loads of projects she has stolen the show in, in the past couple of years in particular, like Promising Young Woman, The Watcher and Shotgun Wedding alongside Jennifer Lopez.

Jessica Lange 

Four decades after Jessica Lange became a star for roles like her Oscar-nominated work in Tootsie and Frances, she is still a huge name, particularly thanks to her move to TV in collaboration with Ryan Murphy on his numerous shows. Lange always provides strong performances in her ever-changing American Horror Story roles, along with portraying Joan Crawford in Feud. 

Allison Janney 

Allison Janney is another actress who got wide recognition for being in one of the best-regarded TV shows of all time, The West Wing. After starring in 155 episodes of the drama, Janney has continued to explore all sorts of interesting characters across her career, especially after 50, whether it be in the sitcom Mom, winning an Oscar for her chilling mother role in I, Tonya or her booked 2022 that put an additional three movies under her belt. Janney is even more famous now than she was when she was a younger actress. 

Julianne Moore 

A new role from Julianne Moore is never too far away these days. The 62-year-old actress has accomplished a lot over 50 and has even been in with the kids because of her key role in the Hunger Games franchise or starring alongside Stranger Things’ Finn Wolfhard in the recent indie, When You Finish Saving the World. Moore has starred in so many great movies just within the past decade that it can be hard to recall she’s also the same actress from Boogie Nights and Far From Heaven. 

Tilda Swinton 

We don’t have enough female character actors in the world, but Tilda Swinton embodies someone new so frequently that we can barely imagine what she’s like in real life. The majority of Swinton’s best roles have occurred since she turned 50, such as We Need To Talk About Kevin, or her numerous times working with Wes Anderson and Bong Joon-Ho. 

Viola Davis

Viola Davis is one of the most acclaimed actors of our time right now and it feels like she’s also just getting started. Recently, the actress did just about every stunt as a warrior and leader in The Woman King and has become the most-nominated Black actress in Academy Awards history. 

Meryl Streep 

I mean, it’s Meryl. What else do we have to say? The 73-year-old actress has always been magnificent on screen no matter her age and has proven her great talent and ability to be a chameleon on the screen again and again. Since turning 50, Streep has starred in all-time great movies like The Devil Wears Prada, Mamma Mia, and Iron Lady, and looking forward, she's about to guest star in Only Murders In the Building. 

It’s great to see so many women have broken through and found roles for themselves after 50 in the industry. It really comes down to great roles being written for women of all ages for their opportunities to exist. 

Though he may still be working in the world of his Kingman universe, director Matthew Vaughn just can’t pass up a good spy story. After reading a manuscript of mysterious author Elly Conway’s espionage thriller Argylle, Vaughn dedicated himself to shepherding this cinematic take on the project, and took Henry Cavill along for the ride. 

It wasn’t too long before a veritable who’s who of actors jumped on board, and before you knew it Bryce Dallas Howard and John Cena became a part Apple Original Films and Universal's picture, set to debut theatrically on the 2024 movie release schedule. As you’re about to see, the faces who are involved in this particular game are both familiar and intriguing. 

But before we go too far, let's take a look at Argylle's trailer. It's not only a lot of fun to watch, it will also serve as a primer for the dual pronged reality we're about to delve into.

Now that we have that out of the way, let’s take a look at the cast for Argylle. Starting, of course, with the actor whose character lends the film its very name. 

Henry Cavill

After making some trips to the world of espionage himself, thanks to The Man From U.N.C.L.E. and Mission: Impossible - Fallout, what we know about Argylle has Henry Cavill entering the spy game yet again. This time he’s a bit of a wild card, as our tale starts with this amnesiac protagonist being tricked into thinking he's merely an author of fiction. 

Or at least, that's what we were led to believe originally. Since the release of Argylle's trailer, the narrative seems to have changed. Henry Cavill's Aubrey Argylle is actually the fictional hero of the book that "inspired" Matthew Vaughn's film. Which only further complicates the intention to kick off a new trilogy of spy movies. Though the former star of The Witcher may have his ever busy hands full, Cavill hasn't ruled out James Bond for his potential future.

Dua Lipa

Playing agent Argylle's "elegant and lethal nemesis" Lagrange, we saw Dua Lipa's character pictured in the first official photo and footage of the film’s action. Co-star Henry Cavill hinting in a social media post that trouble was ahead, and the footage that later came along only confirmed as much. 

Everything from Dua Lipa trying to shoot Henry Cavill to being yanked off of a motorbike by John Cena was shown. And for the audience's sake, it appears that Dua's character is present in the fictional book narrative. One final note: while she was originally announced as writing the musical score and title song for Argylle, it seems that the score duties have now gone to Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One composer Lorne Balfe. 

Ariana DeBose

One of 2022's Academy Award winners, Ariana DeBose is also known for her credits in the cast of Hamilton and the Netflix original movie The Prom. Playing the role of "fearless field tech" Keira in Argylle; she seems to be another party present in the fictional Argylle narrative. At least her speeding away from an with Henry Cavill and John Cena in tow would seem to suggest that.

This also seems to indicate that Ariana DeBose looks to be someone we can trust. Which is more than we can say for her casting as supervillain Calypso Ezili in the Sony's Spider-Man Universe movie Kraven the Hunter. I hope we're not winding up for a potential double cross here. 

John Cena

Speaking of heel turns, John Cena is part of this amazing roster of talent as well! The wrestling veteran who became a blockbuster player, Cena has used The Suicide Squad to push his brand of chaos even further. Which leads to his part in Argylle, as Wyatt, a fellow agent (and best friend to) Henry Cavill's Argylle in the book world.

This combination looks to be one that takes full advantage of the Matthew Vaughn line of action-comedy and the Peacemaker star's talents in that realm. Seriously, that bike yank stunt is pretty impressive, as is his over it "man in the van" gag shown in Argylle's trailer.

Richard E. Grant

Rounding out the roster of characters in the Argylle books is celebrated actor Richard E. Grant. Inhabiting the role of Fowler, "a senior member of agent Argylle’s organization," there's a lot of potential for this character on either side of the moral fence. So his current implied alignment on the side of good shouldn't be taken too close to heart.

In terms of Richard E. Grant though, you can take his casting as a sign that Matthew Vaughn is really excited to pack both sides of Argylle's reality with top tier talent. Seen in everything from Withnail and I to Everyone's Talking About Jamie, Grant and his prolific talents have been spotted in blockbusters as of late; most notably as Allegiant General Pryde in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

Bryce Dallas Howard

Here's where it all starts to get complicated, readers. Who's the author of Argylle in the reality of us moviegoers? Elly Conway. Who's the character that Jurassic World Dominion's Bryce Dallas Howard is playing in Matthew Vaughn's film, based on Ms. Conway's book? Elly Conway. Apparently, the Kick Ass director's approach to adapting that book he loved so much during those early pandemic days was to co-create a movie with writer Jason Fuchs that gave it a meta spin. 

In the world of Argylle the movie, Ms. Conway is so astute at writing her spy plots that she's predicted real life capers, and attracted the attention of her world's espionage community as a result. So for the purposes of Matthew Vaughn's movie, Elly's world is "reality." Which makes it all the more confusing when trying to figure out how real the still unseen Elly Conway is in our world.

Sam Rockwell

From here on out, we're presumably going to be talking about the people that exist in Elly Conway's world within Argylle. And that's where Academy Award winner Sam Rockwell comes in, as he's playing Aidan, a spy who's trying to protect Elly Conway from forces that are seeking out her supposed skills as an oracle.

A jack of all trades, Rockwell was more recently seen by audiences in the Searchlight Pictures whodunnit See How They Run. Seeing as that movie has its own very meta approach to reality bending, Argylle shouldn't be much of a stretch for his chops; especially after reading how Sam's dual train fight with Henry Cavill really put him through his paces.

Bryan Cranston

Returning to the world of movies for the first time since 2020’s The One and Only Ivan, Bryan Cranston has still been a busy man. Leading up to his casting in Argylle, Cranston has been on stage with productions of both Network and Power of Sail, as well as led the Showtime series Your Honor. 

In the part of Ritter, Cranston seems to have returned to full on villain territory as the head of something only known as "The Division." Think of it as a real life SPECTRE. A spy chief who's been watching Bryce Dallas Howard's Elly Conway, this Argylle figure seems to be the big bad in her reality. And it looks like he'll stop at nothing to get his woman.

Catherine O'Hara

Comedy legend Catherine O’Hara’s best movie and TV roles make her a prime addition to the Argylle cast. Originally, it was theorized that the Schitt's Creek vet would be playing the character of Frances Coffey,“the CIA's most legendary spymaster.” 

However, that was before the truth about Matthew Vaughn's movie revealed that character as a figure from Elly Conway's book. In actuality, Catherine will be playing Ruth, Elly's mother. And from what we've seen in Argylle's marketing, she's pretty frustrated with her daughter's latest installment in the series. 

Samuel L. Jackson

This isn’t the first time that Matthew Vaughn and Samuel L. Jackson have teamed up in the world of cinema. A legendary acting talent, Jackson was also Richmond Valentine, the central villain in Kingsman: The Secret Service. And it seems like these collaborators had so much fun playing together previously, they decided to use Argylle as their big reunion.

Playing Alfred Solomon, the retired CIA deputy director that's helped give Elly Conway stories to write in the Argylle world, Jackson's previous history as the MCU's Nick Fury will probably come into play. Only Alfred doesn't seem to be as uptight as Director Fury ever was. 

Sofia Boutella

No one knows who Saba Al-Badr is working for, so her title as Argylle's “Keeper of Secrets” is even more applicable under that reality. While we'll have to wait to figure out who Sofia Boutella's character is working for, we do know that she's reunited with her Kingsman: The Secret Service director for what looks like one hell of a ride.

Currently Boutella is the face of another would-be franchise of blockbusters. As the functional lead of Zack Snyder's Rebel Moon series of Netflix original films, she's continued to flex her action muscles in bad ass form.  

Rob Delaney

Closing out the currently known cast list is another veteran of the cinematic intelligence community, comedian Rob Delaney. Recently seen in a quick appearance via Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One, the man has already proved himself to look good and authoritative in a uniform. 

Delaney’s comedy chops now find themselves put to the test among spies of different stripes, as Argylle marks yet another cinematic appearance by the man who made an impression as Peter in Deadpool 2. Per reporting by THR, Rob's role is "unknown, but it’s understood to be relatively small."

Thanks to Apple teaming with the folks at Universal Studios, this former streaming exclusive is now heading to the movies! Argylle is currently set to make its grand debut on the big screen, on February 2nd. Eventually, those with an Apple TV+ subscription will be rewarded for their patience, as that will be its streaming home.

However, we don't know exactly when that'll happen, as that information is classified. I love how we have seen a new generation of Catherine O’Hara fans emerge since her days in the Schitt’s Creek cast as Moira Rosa. Her brilliant performance as the - to borrow from the character’s own colorful vocabulary - “vociferous” and “juvenescent” former soap opera actress would also earn the Canadian comedian her second Emmy Award and first in an acting category.

I hope that, like it has for me, her newfound popularity inspires audiences to take a look at the titles on her resume that they had never seen or revisit ones they had either forgotten or never even realized she was in before. The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)

Bored by the same gloomy and ghoulish celebrations from every other year, the unofficial leader of a town obsessed with Halloween (Chris Sarandon) accidentally comes across another town that is obsessed with Christmas and conspires to teach his peers all about the traditions akin to this new holiday. 

Why it’s one of the best Catherine O’Hara movies: Even though Tim Burton merely wrote the story and directorial duties were handled by underrated stop-motion artist Henry Selick, you could also make an argument that the ultimate Burton movie is the Oscar-nominated The Nightmare Before Christmas - a classic perfect for two different holiday seasons and for which Catherine O’Hara leant her voice to both the role of the romantic lead Sally and of Oogie Boogie’s young henchperson, Shock.

Eugene Levy (Johnny Rose)

Eugene Levy played the patriarch of the Rose family. He made his fortune with a chain of video stores. He bought Schitt’s Creek as a joke, but it then became the Rose family’s final asset. Eugene Levy co-created Schitt’s Creek with his son Dan Levy. He’s also one of the series’ executive producers.

Many recognize Levy from his time in the American Pie franchise as Jim (Jason Biggs)’s dad, Noah Levenstein. As of 2021, he played this character for seven movies in the American Pie franchise. Many also recognize Levy from the cult-favorite Christopher Guest movie Best in Show. He then re-teamed with Guest for A Mighty Wind and For Your Consideration.

Levy has also appeared in iconic '80s and '90s movies such as National Lampoon’s Vacation, Splash, the Father of the Bride films, and I Love Trouble. He also appeared in Josie and the Pussycats, Serendipity, Like Mike, Finding Dory, and Night at the Museum Battle of the Smithsonian.

Moira Rose is a former soap star, still holding on to a bit of her glory days. Most of Alexis and David’s quirky habits are clearly inherited from their mother Moira. Annie Murphy (Alexis Rose)

Everyone needs a little bit of Alexis in their lives. She came to Schitt’s Creek very self-centered but discovered that there was more to life than money and crazy adventures, not much more, but at least a little more. Annie Murphy appeared in episodes of Blue Mountain State, Beauty & the Beast, Flashpoint, and Rookie Blue. She was also one of the main characters in the Canadian comedy The Plateaus, which centered on an indie rock band.

In 2020, she landed the lead role on Kevin Can F**k Himself. The series began airing on AMC in June 2021. Murphy joined the cast of the second season of Russian Doll in the same year.

Emily Hampshire (Stevie Budd)

Stevie is one of Johnny’s employees. However, as the series progresses, Stevie becomes like another member of the Rose family. Emily Hampshire appeared in the 1998 romantic comedy Boy Meets Girl. She was the female lead opposite Sean Astin. She also appeared in the movies The Life Before This, Posers, and Snow Cake. She played Chanel in the gender and body-swap Freaky Friday-style movie It’s A Boy Girl Thing. She had a supporting role opposite fellow Canadian Kevin Zegers, and The O.C actress Samaire Armstrong.

Hampshire also appeared in the films Good Neighbours, Mother!, and the Robert Pattinson starring film Cosmopolis. She also appeared in episodes of Are You Afraid of the Dark,? Roland Schitt is the mayor of Schitt’s Creek. He was a bothersome character to all members of the Rose family until they kind of just accepted his antics. Elliott had a long history of comedic roles prior to Schitt’s Creek, including being part of the Scary Movie franchise. Elliott appeared in the comedies Groundhog Day, Cabin Boy, Kingpin, There’s Something About Mary, Osmosis Jones, and Sandy Wexler.

Elliott also appeared on Late Night with David Letterman from 1982 to 1988. He appeared on the series Get a Life, Saturday Night Live, The Naked Truth, Dilbert, Cursed, and How I Met Your Mother. Ted is also Schitt’s Creek’s local veterinarian. Dustin Milligan was briefly a main character on the 90210 reboot. He left the series after one season. Milligan has appeared in episodes of Blindspot, Silicon Valley, The Dead Zone, Supernatural, and Dead Like Me.

Milligan also appeared in the movies Final Destination 3, The Butterfly Effect 2, The Messengers, In the Land of Women, and A Simple Favor. He has a recurring role on the Peacock original series Rutherford Falls. Milligan made an appearance on RuPaul’s celebrity drag race special series RuPaul’s Secret Celebrity Drag Race. There has been talk of a potential Beetlejuice sequel, really, since the inventive horror-comedy about a deceased couple trying to scare a snobbish family out of their house became a surprise hit in 1988. In more recent years, Michael Keaton has said he would play the maniacal bio-exorcist with director Tim Burton on board, Winona Ryder has also seemed open to returning, and rumors of Johnny Depp appearing in the Beetlejuice sequel have come out lately. Sounds like a fun idea, but, if you ask me, I think it would work best if all the original members of the Beetlejuice cast came back, which would take more than saying their names three times to achieve.

Nonetheless, whether Beetlejuice 2 is or is not dead or even if it were to suddenly pop up on our list of 2021 new movie releases, it would not do much to make my millennium, to be honest, since the original is good enough on its own, and the Tony-nominated Broadway musical adaptation has already filled that void for many. I do, however, still enjoy following the stars of the beloved cult classic and their careers to this day. So, that being said, let’s turn on the juice and she what’s shaking loose with the cast of one of the best Tim Burton movies ever, starting with the ghost of the most.

Michael Keaton (Beetlejuice)

Before landing the title role of Beetlejuice (whose name is actually spelled as the less marketable “Betelgeuse”), Michael Keaton (née Douglas) had already conquered the world of comedy with 1982’s Night Shift from director Ron Howard, followed by the leading Mr. Mom the next year. In 1989, he defied fan expectations by re-teaming with director Tim Burton to play Batman, whom he may be reprising alongside Ezra Miller’s The Flash in his upcoming solo movie.

After poking fun at his comic book movie stardom in 2014’s Birdman earned him an Oscar nomination, Michael Keaton became the MCU’s Spider-Man villain, Vulture, whom he also appears to be reprising in 2022’s Morbius, starring Jared Leto as the vampiric Marvel anti-hero. The Trial of the Chicago 7 star is also appearing in action thriller The Asset and is currently filming the Hulu original miniseries Dopesick.

Alec Baldwin (Adam Maitland)

It is funny to imagine that Alec Baldwin feared Beetlejuice may ruin his acting career, considering it is one of the last things anyone thought to mention at his Comedy Central Roast in 2019. On the other hand, his performance as the desperate, deceased Adam is not quite as memorable as his rousing speech in 1992’s Glengarry Glen Ross, his Emmy-winning turn as Jack Donaghy on 30 Rock, or his more recent Emmy win as Donald Trump on Saturday Night Live from 2016 to 2020.

The 63-year-old Oscar nominee and latest Match Game host is returning to the animated sequel The Boss Baby: Family Business in 2021, which will also see the premiere of Peacock’s Dr. Death miniseries. Alec Baldwin is also working on a TV comedy with Frasier’s Kelsey Grammer; is in pre-production for an action thriller called The Father, a western called Rust, and cop movie Blue Before Blood; and has been announced to play Enzo Ferrari in a Ferruccio Lamborghini biopic.

Geena Davis (Barbara Maitland)

In the same year that Beetlejuice won the Academy Award for Best Makeup, Geena Davis won for Best Supporting Actress - but for The Accidental Tourist and not as Alec Baldwin’s also deceased wife, Barbara. Nonetheless, outside of David Cronenberg’s The Fly, the light horror film is the actress’ best-known foray into the genre in a career defined by versatility, from sports biopics like A League of Their Own to a crime dramedy like Thelma & Louise, which earned her her second Oscar nod.

Recently, the 65-year-old’s best known acting work has been on television, including recurring stints on Grey’s Anatomy as a brain surgeon, on Netflix’s GLOW, and the animated fantasy series She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, but she also starred opposite Jessica Chastain in the assassin drama Ava in 2020. Her next film, Cowgirl’s Last Ride is now pre-production, but the founder of the Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media’s main focus continues to be her social activism.

Winona Ryder (Lydia Deetz)

Since her breakout role as the “strange and unusual” teen Lydia in Beetlejuice, Winona Ryder has become a bit of a Scream Queen. She was the killer female lead of 1989’s Heathers cast, was tempted by a fanged Gary Oldman in Bram Stoker’s Dracula, and would make a major career comeback after her part in the Stranger Things cast earned her a Golden Globe nomination.

Winona Ryder will return to play Joyce Byers on Stranger Things Season 4, which may be the last go-round for the Netflix original ‘80s-style sci-fi hit. Speaking of nostalgia, the 49-year-old actress also reprised her other most famous Tim Burton movie role by starring opposite Timothée Chalamet as her scissor-handed son in an Edward Scissorhands inspired Super Bowl ad for Cadillac.

Catherine O’Hara (Delia Deetz)

Starring as Winona Ryder’s snobby artist stepmother in Beetlejuice is Catherine O’Hara as Delia, who might be a close second to Kate McAllister in Home Alone as her most iconic movie mom role. The Canadian comedian also enjoyed a major comeback on TV recently as Moira Rose in the Schitt’s Creek cast, for which she won both an Emmy and a Golden Globe in 2021.

Catherine O’Hara has two animated movies coming out in 2021, including Extinct and The Last Kids on Earth: Happy Apocalypse to You - an interactive special spun-off from the Netflix animated series she also lends her voice to. She and an all-star cast are currently lending their voices to the upcoming animated film Back Home Again, and her comedy film Fortune, which sounds like the opposite of the plot of Schitt’s Creek, is now in development.

Jeffrey Jones (Charles Deetz)

Former real estate yuppie Charles Deetz is probably the second or third most iconic ‘80s role of Jeffrey Jones, following Principal Edward Rooney in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off and his Golden Globe-nominated role in Amadeus as Emperor Joseph II. The now 74-year-old actor would actually reunite with many of his Beetlejuice co-stars in subsequent films, such as The Hunt for Red October with Alec Baldwin, 1996’s The Crucible with Winona Ryder, and Stuart Little with Geena Davis.

Other than rejoining the Deadwood cast for HBO’s follow-up movie in 2019, Jeffrey Jones does not have much going on in Hollywood anymore. His career slowed down significantly after he was placed on the sex offender registry in 2003 after hiring a 14-year-old boy to pose for suggestive photographs the previous year.

Annie McEnroe (Jane Butterfield)

While no longer busy in Hollywood, Annie McEnroe played Jane Butterfield - the nosy real estate who always hounded the Maitlands about selling their house before their deaths - in Beetlejuice. The actress (actually best known for having small roles in otherwise iconic films such as Wall Street or Born on the Fourth of July) has not appeared in anything since Oliver Stone’s sequel Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps in 2010. She did, however, appear with her producer husband Edward R. Pressman in a featurette for the 2021 Blu-ray release of The Hand - a 1981 horror film (also directed by Stone) that she starred in with Michael Caine.

Dick Cavett (Bernard)

Aside from a few instances, when legendary, Emmy-winning talk show host Dick Cavett shows up in a movie, he is usually starring as himself - most notably in 1977’s Annie Hall or in Forrest Gump from 1994. However, in Beetlejuice, he plays Bernard: Delia’s disgruntled, discouraging agent and one of the dinner guests possessed into singing Harry Belafonte’s “Day-O” by the Maitlands. The 84-year-old’s most recent gig was lending his voice to the Facebook Watch animated series Liverspots and Astronots, but he will appear in two upcoming documentaries that are both in post-production: one about surrealist writer and illustrator Edward Gorey and another about Chicago nightclub Mister Kelly’s, where he, among many others, got his start as a performer.

Glenn Shadix (Otho)

You may recall that another guest to “suffer” the “Day-O” possession was the Deetzes’ friend and interior decorator Otho, played by Glenn Shadix, landing his second movie role ever with Beetlejuice. The theater-trained actor would go on to reunite with Winona Ryder in Heathers, with Tim Burton to voice The Mayor in The Nightmare Before Christmas, appear alongside Michael Keaton in Multiplicity, and also earn a relatively major role in the cult action comedy Demolition Man in 1993. Shadix’s final performance was a voice role in an animated adaptation of The Little Engine That Could before passing away in 2010 due to a traumatic head injury at the age of 58.

Patrice Martinez (Miss Argentina)

Beetlejuice was actually one of the last major movie appearance of Patrice Martinez, whose character was an Argentinian beauty pageant contestant before becoming a receptionist for the afterlife following her “little accident.” The first big film role of the American-born actress of Mexican descent was as Carmen in Three Amigos! before landing a recurring spot on the original Magnum P.I. with Tom Selleck and playing the love interest of the titular hero of Zorro from 1990-1993 on Freeform when it was still called The Family Channel. Martinez would retire from acting in 1999 and, in 2018, died unexpectedly after a long illness at only 55.

You know, for my first Halloween with my fiancée in 2019, I dressed up as Beetlejuice and she dressed as Miss Argentina. Needless to say, the movie is very important to us and it was upsetting to learn that the actress behind the character my fiancée dressed as had passed away only a year earlier. Of course, in certain ways, Beetlejuice serves as a celebration of the afterlife at its core, and Patrice Martinez, Glenn Shadix, and late members of the cast and crew remain a shining remnant of the film’s undying legacy.

Having been a television mainstay for most of her post-adolescent life, The Big Bang Theory vet Kaley Cuoco is one of the most recognizable TV stars on the planet, but massive popularity doesn't necessarily equate to awards success. Cuoco took a brilliant turn by bringing the novel The Flight Attendant to HBO Max, and her stellar performance throughout Season 1 earned the actress her very first Golden Globe Award nomination for Best Actress in a TV Comedy or Musical. Unfortunately, she didn't end up winning the category, but she won me and many other fans over when she shared her DGAF response.

To be sure, Kaley Cuoco definitely did GAF about the award in general, as she was very emotional and thankful to be recognized by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association when the nominations were announced. But at the end of the Golden Globes day, after one has presumably been friendly with the booze throughout, it's all about being comfortable. And Cuoco looks about as comfortable as anyone could be in the Instagram post below.

Let's break down all the awesomeness within this single image. First, there's the A+ look on Kaley Cuoco's face, which is a mixture of "Yep, that figures," with "I'm a queen." And she doubles down on that sentiment with one hand holding a pizza slice and one hand holding a bottle of wine. Nobody got time for plates and glasses on awards night. Napkins, shmapkins.

Second, Kaley Cuoco still manages to look pretty damned glamorous in her dress, even with her not-as-glitzy food and drink choices. But the key to the whole look, of course, is that her fancy high heels were kicked off and sitting amongst the food on the ground. Nobody got time for uncomfortable shoes, either.

And finally, let's all appreciate the glorious grounded smorgasbord that Kaley Cuoco has on demand, as well as the confetti spread all over the floor. We've got Golden Globes cupcakes, as evidenced by the "GG," unless that was just Cuoco decided to put her Gossip Girl fandom on display. Then we have a "Good Luck, Kaley!" cake with the actress' picture on it, a half-eaten pan of macaroni and cheese, and a few choice slices in a pizza box. There's also another bottle of alcohol on the ground – possibly bourbon or a liqueur of some kind? – and a gluten-free chocolate cake on her lap.

We've clearly all been missing out by not partying with Cuoco for all these years, although I do have some questions and suspicions about the hair coming out from under the cake plate. The actress' fans and friends understandably enjoyed this Golden Globes reaction as much as we did, with her Flight Attendant co-star Michelle Gomez sharing her own disbelief that Cuoco lost out to Schitt's Creek legend Catherine O'Hara, saying:

While filming The Flight Attendant, Funnily enough, Kaley Cuoco impersonated the very character that Catherine O'Hara won for. Now that Schitt's Creek is over with, Cuoco has as good a shot as ever to win out the category in 2022, with The Flight Attendant having been renewed for Season 2 at HBO Max, with a different plan in mind to follow up on how Season 1 concluded. Granted, she'll have to win over the voters with another season of complex, hilarious and heartbreaking performances, but I think she's up to the task. I hear wine and cake are excellent motivators.

For years, Kaley Cuoco was known to viewers as Penny, the sweet, funny and no nonsense Nebraska native on The Big Bang Theory. But these days, she’s further endeared herself to audiences as the likable (and somewhat reckless) Cassie Bowden on The Flight Attendant. The role was a bit of a turn for Cuoco, but she pulled it off beautifully -- and even snagged herself a Golden Globe nomination in the process. Unfortunately, production on the show was a bit difficult for the actress, but she actually managed to get through it by channeling a certain Schitt’s Creek character.

Kaley Cuoco recently reflected on her time working on The Flight Attendant and revealed that while she filmed the show in Thailand a few years ago, she discovered the hit comedy Schitt’s Creek. And it turned out to be just the source of comfort she needed while dealing with the grueling shoot:

Any Schitt’s Creek fan will tell you the show is addictive, and this definitely became the case for Kaley Cuoco. As a matter of fact, she went on to tell TV Line that she watched the show so much that she actually began to imitate Catherine O’Hara’s Moira Rose:

It’s incredibly poetic that Catherine O’Hara’s own Golden Globe-caliber work helped Kaley Cuoco with her own, and it’s not hard to see why. O’Hara’s performance as Moira is one of the ages, and one of the many reasons why Schitt’s Creek worked so well.

Kaley Cuoco has had quite a ride since The Flight Attendant’s premiere. The show was met with mostly positive reviews, with many fans and critics praising her performance. This led the actress to share a sweet message in which she thanked fans for their support, especially those Big Bang Theory fans who made the jump to the new show for her.

Kaley Cuoco imitating Schitt’s Creek’s Moira Rose may sound weird, but you can’t argue with the results. And with that, it wouldn’t be surprising if the actress chooses to watch the show again for good luck while working on The Flight Attendant Season 2.

Home Alone is a Christmas classic. It’s the story of a boy who finds himself home alone during the holidays. At first, the idea is fun and appealing, but then the loneliness and danger of it all kick in, especially when two burglars try to rob the place. Home Alone turned 30 this year, so it’s a good time to check in on what Macaulay Culkin and the rest of the cast have been up to since the film’s 1990 premiere.

Let’s look at the major works that Macaulay Culkin, Joe Pesci, Daniel Stern, Catherine O’Hara, and other Home Alone cast members have participated in during the last 30 years.

Macaulay Culkin (Kevin McCallister)

Culkin played mischievous little 8-year-old Kevin McCallister. He wished his family away and then had his dream come true when they accidentally left him at home. Culkin appeared in a slew of movies in the early 90s. One of his most famous works was as Thomas J. Sennett in My Girl. If you weren’t grabbing a tissue after this role, you have no heart. He starred opposite Elijah Wood as a bad seed in The Good Son. He played Richie Rich in the 1994 adaptation and then reprised his role as Kevin in Home Alone 2: Lost in New York.

Culkin took a nearly ten-year hiatus from acting and returned with Party Monster. Then he appeared in cult-classic Saved! opposite Mandy Moore, Jena Malone, and Patrick Fugit. Culkin then had a series of guest roles in shows like Will & Grace, Robot Chicken, and Dollface. Coming up, he will appear in the upcoming season of American Horror Story.

Joe Pesci (Harry)

Joe Pesci played one of the burglars in Home Alone and its sequel. Harry is clearly the brains of the operation and was a lot more hot-headed than his literal partner in crime. Pesci is a legend, so he had quite an active career before and after Home Alone. He played the cousin Vinny in the law comedy My Cousin Vinny. He reprised his role as Leo Getz in Lethal Weapon 3 and Lethal Weapon 4.

Pesci teamed up with Martin Scorsese and Robert De Niro for the crime film Casino. He then teamed up with Scorsese and De Niro again in 2019 for The Irishman, The film earned Pesci a Best Supporting Actor Oscar nomination. In the past 30 years, he has also appeared with De Niro in a few other films like A Bronx Tale and The Good Shepherd.

Daniel Stern (Marv)

In Home Alone, Daniel Stern played Harry’s partner-in-crime Marv. Harry got the brains and Marv got the height. Stern played Phil Berquist in City Slickers and City Slickers II: The Legend of Curly’s Gold. These films star Billy Crystal, Stern, and Jack Palance. The first film launched Jake Gyllenhaal’s career. In 1993, Stern appeared with Ian Nicholas and Gary Busey in the sports comedy Rookie of the Year.

He also appeared in indie Ellen Page and Drew Barrymore’s film Whip It, and in the Workaholics crew’s film Game Over, Man!. Stern has done voice-over work on shows such as Dilbert, The Simpsons, Hey Arnold!, and Family Guy. He’s also had guest appearances on the shows Monk, House of Lies, Angie Tribeca, and Love. Daniel Stern has a recurring role on Hulu’s Shrill. He plays main character Annie (Aidy Bryant)’s father. Shrill was recently renewed for a third season.

Catherine O’Hara (Kate McCallister)

Catherine O’Hara played Kevin’s mother Kate. She has questionable mothering skills because she lost her son not once but twice. Much of the first film involves Kate trying to make it back home to Kevin. O’Hara voiced Sally in The Nightmare Before Christmas. She then appeared in a few lesser-known films in the 90s and early 2000s, including A Simple Twist of Fate opposite Steve Martin, Home Fries starring Drew Barrymore and Luke Wilson, and cult favorites Orange County and Best in Show.

O’Hara also dabbled quite a bit in the world of voice-over work, voicing characters in Monster House, Brother Bear 2, Chicken Little, Frankenweenie, and Pippi Longstocking. She appeared in the movies Penelope, For Your Consideration, and Away We Go. Catherine O’Hara also appeared in episodes of Six Feet Under, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Modern Family, A Series of Unfortunate Events, and 30 Rock.

Most people will now recognize O’Hara for her role as Moira Rose in Schitt’s Creek. The role won her a 2020 Emmy Award for Best Lead Actress in a Comedy Series. O’Hara can next be heard in the animated film Extinct.

John Heard (Peter McCallister)

Peter joins the bad parents’ club as Kevin’s father Peter. John Heard appeared in the heartbreaking '90s drama Radio Flyer that starred Lorraine Bracco and Elijah Wood. He also appeared in the legal drama The Pelican Brief, which starred Julia Roberts and Denzel Washington. Heard appeared with major actors like Meryl Streep, Liam Neeson, Nicolas Cage, Samuel L. Jackson, Dan Aykroyd, and Christina Ricci in films such as My Fellow Americans, Before and After, One Eight Seven, Snake Eyes, and Desert Blue.

Heard appeared in the TV series Law and Order, The Outer Limits, CSI Miami, and The Chicago Code. He had a recurring role in Prison Break, The Sopranos, and short-lived Jack & Bobby. 

Tragically, John Heard died in 2017 of a heart attack.

Devin Ratray (Buzz McCallister)

Buzz was Kevin’s older brother and constant tormentor. Devin Ratray went on to appear in another children-behaving-badly film, Dennis the Menace. His next major movie role was in the Julia Stiles and Luke Mably starring film The Prince & Me. He played a character named Scotty. Ratray then had small roles in the films The Winning Season, Breaking Point, Rough Night, Nebraska, Masterminds, and Surrogates.

Devin Ratray had a small role in the crime drama Hustlers starring Constance Wu and Jennifer Lopez. He had many guest appearances in Law & Order and its spin-off series. Ratray also appeared in episodes of Supernatural, The Good Wife, Elementary, Girls, and Russian Doll. He had recurring roles in Amazon Prime’s The Tick and Mosaic. Ratray can next be seen in the films Construction and Hollywood.Con. He recently appeared on Amy Sedaris’s series At Home with Amy Sedaris.

Kieran Culkin (Fuller McCallister)

Kieran Culkin played Kevin’s youngest cousin Fuller. Macaulay’s real-life younger brother followed in his footsteps appearing in many films in the '90s. He played Matty Banks in Steve Martin’s Father of the Bride and its sequel Father of the Bride Part II. Culkin appeared in Nowhere to Run, My Summer Story, The Mighty, and She’s All That all in the '90s. He also had a role in the Wes Craven directed drama Music of the Heart that starred Meryl Streep, Angela Bassett, and Gloria Estefan.

Kieran Culkin played Buster in The Cider House Rules, Tim Sullivan in The Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys, and Igby in Igby Goes Down. He had a fun role as Wallace Wells in Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. Culkin has successfully made the transition to TV. First appearing in Fargo and now as Roman Roy in Succession. His role in Succession earned him Emmy and Golden Globe nominations.

John Candy (Gus Polinski)

John Candy played the friendly stranger, Gus Polinski, who helps Kate get to Kevin. Candy voiced Wilbur in the Disney animated feature The Rescuers Down Under. He then appeared in the films Nothing But Trouble, Career Opportunities, and Only the Lonely. He played real-life attorney Dean Andrews Jr. in JFK, the Oliver Stone drama that examines the events leading up to the assassination of John F. Kennedy. Candy’s Home Alone co-star Joe Pesci also appeared in this film.

Candy reunited with the other member of the burglar team when he appeared in Rookie of the Year with Daniel Stern. Candy had one of the lead roles in Cool Runnings, a sports comedy based on the real-life story of a Jamaican bobsledding team. After Cool Runnings, Candy only appeared in two more films, Wagons East and Canadian Bacon before he died in 1994. It’s believed he died of a heart attack.

Roberts Blossom (Marley)

Roberts Blossom played Marley, Kevin’s elderly neighbor that at first, he's afraid of, but the two form a bond with the McCallisters gone. Blossom appeared in a few films after Home Alone. They were Doc Hollywood, Death Falls, and The Quick and the Dead.

Blossom spent most of his post-Home Alone career on television. He appeared in episodes of Northern Exposure, Murder in the Heartland, Chicago Hope, and Balloon Farm. Blossom passed away in 2011 at 87 years old from cerebrovascular disease.

Gerry Bamman (Uncle Frank)

Uncle Frank is Kevin’s dad’s older brother. Kevin isn’t too fond of his Uncle Frank and Frank isn’t too fond of Kevin or spending money. After Home Alone, Gerry Bamman appeared in the films Married to It, The Bodyguard, Lorenzo’s Oil, and the sci-fi film The Puppet Masters, which starred Donald Sutherland. Bamman also had roles in Great Expectations, The Long Kiss Goodnight, Superstar, and The Confession.

Bamman had a recurring role in Law and Order as Stan Gillum. He then appeared in the series Sex and the City, Law and Order: Special Victims Unit, and The Following.

Schitt's Creek had humble beginnings. The CBC Television sitcom aired its first 15 episodes in 2015 to little notice and modest praise. But as it continued to find its footing and grow its fanbase, it gradually became one of the most acclaimed and adored comedy shows on television. It was certainly recognized as such when it swept this year's seven major comedy awards — a first for either comedy or drama. The series has been lauded as one of the finest sitcoms in years, even in Peak Television, and there's a twinge of melancholy to this continued success as it came to its close with this year's sixth and final season.

Now that Schitt's Creek ran its course, what will the award-winning cast — filled with fresh faces and established comedy veterans — do next? Let's see what's in store for the ensemble of Dan and Eugene Levy's hit series!

Eugene Levy (Johnny Rose)

In the role of Johnny Rose, the patriarch of the Rose family who attempts to rebuild his family's fortune, Eugene Levy gave one of his most acclaimed performances in the show he helped create and conceive. Receiving his first Emmy nomination in 2019, Levy went on to win this year's Emmy for his outstanding lead performance in this award-winning comedy series. 

As the co-creator alongside his son and co-star, Dan Levy, Schitt's Creek is undeniably his baby and one of his most triumphant successes — though he's had a career full of highlights. Such highlights include SCTV, Waiting for Guffman, Best in Show, A Mighty Wind, National Lampoon's Vacation, Splash, Father of the Bride, and Finding Dory. He also starred in eight American Pie movies, New York Minute, Like Mike, and Bringing Down the House.

Catherine O'Hara (Moira Rose)

In the role of Moira Rose, the eccentric ex-soap opera star and wife to Johnny Rose, Catherine O'Hara gave another celebrated performance in Schitt's Creek. She won an Emmy this year for this award-recognized role in this hit comedy series. As a comedy veteran, O'Hara drew notice when she was a member of The Second City in Toronto. She later starred in Coming Up Rosie, Beetlejuice, Waiting For Guffman, Best in Show, A Mighty Wind, For Your Consideration, and the first two Home Alone movies. She was also seen in Six Feet Under, 30 Rock, A Series of Unfortunate Events, and more. She also provided voice work for Glenn Martin, DDS, Skylanders Academy, The Addams Family, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Frankenweenie, Where the Wild Things Are, Chicken Little, Over the Hedge, and more.

Dan Levy (David Rose)

As David Rose, the spoiled adult son of Johnny and Moira Rose, Dan Levy made a name for himself as a star and co-creator of Schitt's Creek. Made with his father, Eugene Levy, this familial series was undeniably a family effort, and it worked out fabulous for both of them, notably as Dan Levy won a number of Emmys for his work in front and behind the camera. 

His performance also gained notice for being one of the first openly pansexual characters depicted on television. As an actor, Levy appeared in Admission, Stage Fright, Degrassi: The Next Generation, and Modern Family. He was also a consultant for the 2011 MTV Movie Awards and narrated The Kacey Musgraves Christmas Show last year.

Annie Murphy (Alexis Rose)

In the role of Alexis Rose, Johnny and Moira's spoiled socialite daughter, Annie Murphy took over from Abby Elliott, who was unable to play the part when the show was picked up for series by the CBC. Many critics have gone on to praise Murphy's performance, considering her the show's breakout star. She eventually won an Emmy for her performance in the show's sixth season.

Prior to her role on Schitt's Creek, Annie Murphy starred in The Plateaus, as well as episodes of Beauty & the Beast, Blue Mountain State, Flashpoint, and Rookie Blue. She also appeared in music videos for Hollerado, Little Junior, and, earlier this year, Wild Pink. Now that Schitt's Creek is over, Murphy landed her next leading role in AMC's dark comedy series, Kevin Can F* Himself. Production resumed in September.

Chris Elliott (Roland Schitt)

As Roland Schitt, the mayor of Schitt's Creek, Chris Elliott was the redneck nemesis of Eugene Levy's Johnny Rose in Schitt's Creek. A veteran comic, actor, and writer, Elliott is an Emmy-winning performer and creative who's best known for his roles in Get a Life, Cabin Boy, Eagleheart, Scary Movie 2, How I Met Your Mother, Everybody Loves Raymond, Groundhog Day, The Abyss, Osmosis Jones, Kingpin, and There's Something About Mary. He's also known for his various comedic sketches on Late Night with David Letterman and his appearances on Saturday Night Live. Elliott's also the father of Abby Elliott, who was previously part of Schitt's Creek.

Outside of acting, the comedian is also the author of four books: Daddy's Boy, The Shroud of the Thwacker, Into Hot Air, and The Guy Under the Sheets. Most recently, Elliott lent his voice to The Shivering Truth.

Jennifer Robertson (Jocelyn Schitt)

As Jocelyn Schitt, the mayor's wife, Jenn Robertson played a bright, happy-go-lucky personality in Schitt's Creek. Her performance received four Canadian Screen Awards for Best Supporting Actress. Prior to this role, the actress/writer worked on The Holmes Show, This Hour Has 22 Minutes, Comedy Inc., Wingin' It, Canada's Handyman Challenge, The 1/2 Hour News, and several other TV shows, including guest appearances on Hannah Montana and Degrassi: The Next Generation. Robertson also starred in Twitches, Sassy Pants, Undercover Grandpa, Valentine Ever After, and more.

Following the finale of Schitt's Creek, Jennifer Robertson will have a starring role in Netflix's new drama series, Ginny & Georgia. It's expected to come out later this year. The actress is also currently filming a role in the upcoming romantic drama, Hello, Goodbye, and Everything in Between.

Emily Hampshire (Stevie Budd)

Playing the part of Stevie Budd, the motel clerk (and later owner), Emily Hampshire played a sardonic main character on Schitt's Creek. During her time on this comedy series, Hampshire was also starring in the Syfy drama series, 12 Monkeys. She is also known for Boy Meets Girl, It's a Boy Girl Thing, Snow Cake. The Trotsky, Cosmopolis, Good Neighbours, The Death and Life of John F. Donovan, and mother! She also had a recurring role in Made in Canada, as well as voice parts in Braceface, Atomic Betty, 6teen, Miss Spider's Sunny Patch Friends, Ruby Gloom, and Mythic Warriors.

Outside of Schitt's Creek's final season, Emily Hampshire recently appeared in episodes of Quibi's 50 States of Fright and the web series Save Me. Next, Hampshire stars in the upcoming horror-drama-mystery, Home, and she'll also play a part in Stephen King's horror-drama series, Chapelwaite.

Tim Rozon (Mutt Schitt)

In the part of Mutt Schitt, the son of Roland and Jocelyn and Alexis' former love interest, Tim Rozon played a lead role during the first two seasons of Schitt's Creek and became a guest star in the third and fourth seasons. In addition to his work in this acclaimed series, Rozon is known for the teen drama series, Instant Star. He also played recurring roles in Wild Roses, Lost Girl, and Being Human.

During his time on Schitt's Creek, Tim Rozon played a main role in Wynonna Earp as Doc Holliday. He was also seen in Flashpoint, Rookie Blue, and Against the Wall. Recently, he starred in films and shows like Lake Placid: Legacy, Diggstown, Christmas Town, and Vagrant Queen. He was last seen in the romantic film, Beginner's Luck. Next, Rozon stars in the series, The Surrealtor.

Sarah Levy (Twyla Sands)

As Twyla Sands, the friendly (if not exceptionally bright) waitress and owner of Cafe Tropical, Sarah Levy was a prominent player in Schitt's Creek. The daughter of Eugene Levy and the sister of Dan Levy, Sarah Levy's involvement in Schitt's Creek keeps the show's focus on family tradition strong. She was previously seen in Larry Crowne, Working the Engels, and XIII: The Series prior to her involvement in this show. She was also her dad's assistant on Cheaper by the Dozen 2.

Outside of her work in Schitt's Creek, for which she was nominated for a Canadian Screen Award for Best Supporting Actress, Sarah Levy starred in the short film The Winner Mindset and the TV movie Best Intentions last year, and she appeared in ABC's United We Fall earlier this year. Next, she'll appear in Distancing Socially and the upcoming series, The Surrealtor.

John Hemphill (Robert "Bob" Currie)

Playing Councilor Robert "Bob" Currie, the proprietor of Bob's Garage, John Hemphill provided a cheerful character to Schitt's Creek. A seasoned comedic actor, writer, and producer, Hemphill was a member of Toronto's Second City troupe, as well as a writer for SCTV and frequently on-screen personality. His other TV credits include RoboRoach, The Jane Show, Little Mosque on the Prairie, and Maniac Mansion, the latter of which he created, as well as the TV movies, Hostage for a Day and Sodbusters, the latter of which he co-wrote with Eugene Levy (who directed the film). Hemphill also played bit parts in Adventures in Babysitting, The Man, New York Minute, Goosebumps, and Goofballs.

At the moment, John Hemphill doesn't have his next project lined-up. Or, at least, he hasn't announced it yet — though that's assuming that he's looking to do something else after Schitt's Creek's terrific success.

Karen Robinson (Veronica "Ronnie" Lee)

As Veronica "Ronnie" Lee, a member of the local town council, Karen Robinson played a supporting character who didn't hide her reservations about the Rose family. An actress of the stage and screen, Robinson is known for Against the Ropes, Lars and the Real Girl, The Line, Shoot the Messenger, King, Frankie Drake Mysteries, Morning Show Mysteries, The Gospel According to the Blues, Narc, and Love, Sex, and Eating the Bones. She also won a Canadian Screen Award for her guest role in 2018's Mary Kills People. Following the end of Schitt's Creek, Robinson starred in this month's Learning to Love Again and the short film, Pigs.

Dustin Milligan (Ted Mullins)

Playing Ted Mullins, the town veterinarian and eventually Alexis' boyfriend, Dustin Milligan appeared throughout Schitt's Creek run, though he was only a guest star in the sixth season. Outside of this show, Milligan is best known in 2008's 90210 revival. He also appeared in Final Destination 3, The Butterfly Effect 2, In the Land of Women, Extract, The Messengers, Supernatural, The O.C., Silicon Valley, Shark Night 3D, A Simple Favor, and more. He was also a series regular on Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency. Most recently, Milligan appeared on —and won — RuPaul's Secret Celebrity Drag Race earlier this year. Next, he'll star in Peacock's upcoming Rutherford Falls.

Noah Reid (Patrick Brewer)

In the part of Patrick Brewer, David's business partner and future husband, Noah Reid played a primary role in Seasons 4 through 6 following a recurring role in Season 3. A Canadian actor-musician, Reid notably voiced the lead role in Franklin, and he also did voice work for Babar, Pippi Longstocking, and Jane and the Dragon. He also played regular roles in Strange Days at Blake Holsey High, Backpackers, and Kevin from Work.

As a musician, he's best known for his single "Hold On" in People Hold On, which he also starred in. His albums include 2016's Songs from a Broken Chair and this year's Gemini. He was going on tour earlier this year for the latter album, but such plans were delayed to the COVID-19 pandemic. He'll next be seen in the short film The Cliff and the Road, which he also wrote.
