I love the Ocean’s movies because they are light and breezy, and because it’s just so clear on the screen that the all-star cast was having a blast as they filmed. That’s true of the original Ocean’s 11, starring the Rat Pack back in 1960. It’s especially true of the three movies from the 21st century. When the cast, including Brad Pitt and Catherine Zeta-Jones, showed up on the set for Ocean's Twelve, which you can watch with a Paramount+ subscription, it seemed they all had a little fun at Zeta-Jones’ expense, as Brad Pitt revealed.

Zeta-Jones Came In Ready To Work…

Catherine Zeta-Jones, being the professional that she is, arrived on set ready to work. Like most standard roles, she wanted to talk shop and figure out how her scenes would work. For Pitt and the other cast members, like George Clooney, Matt Damon, Julia Roberts, Don Cheadle, and the rest of the superstars, the movie was really just a nice vacation in Europe. Well, maybe all but one of the actors. Pitt explained in an interview with the Daily Echo around the time of the release of the movie:

Of course, Zeta-Jones eventually fit right in, as Pitt also mentions in the interview:

That’s pretty much how I’ve always pictured the behind-the-scenes escapades in the making of the Ocean’s movies. You can just tell there was a good time going on. It makes me long for a return to that world, and who knows, maybe we will someday, as George Clooney recently teased that Ocean’s Fourteen could be on the way and could even get it “started up” next year.

Ocean’s Twelve Isn’t My Favorite Of The Movies, But It’s Still Great

Director Steven Soderbergh has made a ton of great movies, but I wouldn’t rank Ocean’s Twelve among his best, if I’m honest. Of all the movies (not including Ocean’s 8, which I also like), it’s probably my least favorite of the Ocean’s trilogy. Still, the backstage hijinks might be the best of them all.

All that said, and as brutal as some fans are, I still love rewatching all the movies, including Twelve. Part of the fun is that the locations are more exotic than Vegas, though I do love a good Vegas movie. Shooting in Italy is what made it a vacation, of course, and it’s what sets it apart and makes it so rewatchable for me, even if it’s not as solid as the other movies.

Following Wednesday’s second season run on the 2025 TV schedule, we’ve gotten some very exciting news about the Addams Family spinoff’s third installment. After a season full of mystery and intrigue surrounding Ophelia Frump, Morticia’s sister has officially been cast. She’s being played by a Tim Burton regular, too, which is very exciting and debunks a theory I had about Wednesday’s aunt.

Eva Green Has Been Cast As Aunt Ophelia

It was revealed by Netflix that Aunt Ophelia will be played by Eva Green following Wednesday’s Season 2 cliffhanger ending, which revealed that Ophelia was alive and being kept in Grandmama’s basement. The actress has collaborated with Tim Burton on many occasions as she has had roles in movies like Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children, Dumbo and Dark Shadows. So, she’s a perfect fit for Wednesday’s “mysterious and spooky” ensemble.

So, it would seem that we’ll get to see Green with a platinum blonde look and in Grandmama’s basement when Wednesday returns to Netflix’s streaming schedule. Remember, the season ended with her whereabouts being revealed as she wrote “Wednesday must die” in red on her cell’s wall.

Personally, I can’t wait to see the Casino Royale star back in Tim Burton’s world and in costume as this long-talked-about Wednesday character. However, I can’t help but think about how it debunked my main theory about Ophelia, too.

This Confirmation Debunks A Theory I Had About Who Would Play Aunt Ophelia

Now, while this casting is thrilling, it also debunks a theory that I was hoping to be right about. As Season 2 came out last year, we theorized a few times that Lady Gaga could play Aunt Ophelia. While she appeared in the show as Rosaline Rotwood, it seemed possible that her character’s true identity could be the long-lost aunt of Wednesday Addams.

I mean, Rotwood was introduced to Wednesday by way of Grandmama, and considering the grandmother is also holding Ophelia, this seemed possible. Plus, the singer has the look to pull off the aunt, and considering her tiny role in Season 2, it seemed like something bigger could be set up.

It’s also worth noting that in the 1960s series, The Addams Family, Carolyn Jones played both Morticia and Ophelia. So, it also could have been fun (and within reason) to see Catherine Zeta-Jones trade her long black hair for a platinum blonde wig to play both Frump sisters in Season 3 of Wednesday. Clearly, that little theory has also been debunked.

However, those theories have officially been put to rest, because now we know that Eva Green will play Ophelia Frump when Wednesday returns for its third season.

So, get excited about her return to Tim Burton’s universe, and stream the first two seasons of Wednesday with a Netflix subscription. Meanwhile, we’ll keep you posted as we learn more about this highly anticipated return to the Addams Family “creepy” and “kooky” world.

Streaming TV’s kookiest and spookiest family returned to audiences earlier in the 2025 TV schedule, and Wednesday’s second season retained the series’ distinction as one of the best shows to binge on Netflix, leaving audiences with mysteries to ponder. It’s no mystery that this Addams-filled series has delivered some high-profile guest stars so far, and Catherine Zeta-Jones namechecked It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’s Danny DeVito as someone she wants to join the show in a future season.

The Morticia Addams portrayer doesn’t just want DeVito in the mix as a blue-sky hope, but rather with a particular idea in mind that sounds downright perfect. Assuming he’d be interested, that is.

Speaking with Variety on the red carpet for Wednesday’s weekend FYC event, where she reunited with Jenna Ortega and others, the Chicago vet went so far as to question why the Taxi actor hadn’t already been hired for the upcoming horror TV show’s past seasons. As she put it:

That's a sage question that'll no doubt have the world's greatest thinkers rapt for eons, right alongside "Who watches the Watchmen?" "Who wrote the book of love?" and "What, me worry?" Why isn't Danny DeVito in Wednesday, indeed?

When it came to choosing which character he'd be best to play, Catherine Zeta-Jones didn't exactly struggle to come up with an option, and it's a banger. In her words:

Hells yes it would be cool to see Danny DeVito popping up on Wednesday as a giant pile of hair. He's obviously closer to the right height for it than a lot of other actors, and given all of the wacky shit that he's gotten invested in on It's Always Sunny, I don't foresee it being too huge a deal for him to wear a hair-suit from head to toe. Although if it water gets on it, or if DeVito drops a condiment-filled sandwhich inside the suit, that presents a less than perfect scenario. Rule #1 with hair suits should be "Don't get them wet or eat condiment-filled sandwiches in there."

For as pefect as this sounds in many ways, there would definitely be a couple of major setbacks if DeVito played Cousin Itt. For one, we wouldn't get to hear the actor's vocal performance, since the Addams character only speaks in high-pitched noices, somewhat like The Muppet's Beaker. Second, we wouldn't get to see DeVito's physical performing talents in the clearest of ways, given that his head would presumably be blocked from sight.

So if Wednesday's co-creators are interested in keeping Cousin Itt exactly the same as he was in years past, there are probably other actors to bring into it who aren't so iconic as DeVito. On the flip side, if the writers have a way to introduce Cousin Itt without him being completely covered in hair, that could work as well.

While we're at it, if Steve Buscemi's Season 2 headmaster is out, let's bring in Zeta-Jones' hubby Michael Douglas to run things with an iron grip. Or maybe he can play Cousin Itt, and DeVito can run things at Nevermore.

Wednesday Season 2 might have already premiered on the 2025 TV schedule, but that doesn’t mean Netflix has stopped feeding fans content. Over the weekend, Jenna Ortega, who plays Wednesday Addams in Tim Burton’s hit TV adaptation, reunited with her on-screen parents, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Luis Guzmán, for Netflix’s FYSEE: The Fall Edit. Together, the trio created what may have been the most goth red carpet moment of the year.

It seems the Wednesday cast has taken to method dressing, something Ortega has learned well. The three cast members opted to embrace their characters’ knack for all black, with Catherine Zeta-Jones donning a stunning lace dress that I imagine is what Morticia Addams would wear if she were a 2014 tumblr girl. Meanwhile, Luis Guzmán made a play on sad boy chic with a clean look that was brought together with a long black overcoat. Finally, Jenna Ortega channeled her inner Gomez Addams with a fitted two piece pinstripe suit and a black long sleeve under the vest, her cross chain really driving home that gothic look:

To anyone who ever doubted Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia Addams, shame on you. This version of the Addams family might be a more unique take but, if this red carpet proves anything, it’s that she is perfectly strikingly beautiful and goth in every way as Morticia.

If I had to pick my favorite look of the three, I’m, of course, choosing the Scream VI actress. She steals the show on every red carpet she walks. Each outfit suits her so well, probably because she collaborates with her stylist on every look. Ortega has made it very clear that despite being a former Disney child actor and playing a teenager on Wednesday, she is very mature in her fashion choices, and I definitely respect this move.

This year's Primetime Emmy Awards also featured a Wednesday mother-daughter reunion, that time on stage, and that look was a lot different from this one. Jenna Ortega wore a revealing patchwork top made of hanging jewels, and it absolutely slayed. Fashion appears to be one of Ortega’s creative, expressive outlets, and it would seem she likes to go for those jaw-dropping looks whether she’s channeling Wednesday or not.

That isn’t to say Ortega didn’t nail every look while promoting the second season of her Netflix show, because she did. At one press event, she channeled her inner punk-rock with a clinging gray dress with back cutouts. The Wednesday Season 2 premiere revealed her take on a more mature Addams Wednesday, still rocking the smokey eye and all-black dress, just without the school-girl inspiration. It's possible this recent FYSEE event could be the last bit of Wednesday promotion we see for a bit, and I have to say these outfits were the perfect finale to a stunning press tour. Given Season 2’s cliffhanger, I'm pleased it's been confirmed that Tim Burton’s adaptation has been renewed for a third season. That means not only more new episodes but also more opportunities for Jenna Ortega and co. to sport goth fits on the red carpet.

The second half of Wednesday's second season is easily one of the biggest streaming debuts of post-Labor Day week, and fans will no doubt be bingeing the final four episodes via Netflix subscription with the quickness. The new eps will finally deliver the highly anticipated arrival of Lady Gaga's new character, who's mostly been cloaked in mystery since she was first announced. Now, we have our first look at Ms. Rosaline Rotwood, but I'm already questioning whether or not that's actually her real name.

Check out what we can expect from Lady Gaga's Nevermore instructor, who looks about as perfect as any character can within the world of the Addams Family, even though she'll certainly stand out for wearing all white.

It's a surprisingly simple approach for a pop culture queen who has pulled off some of the more elaborately themed looks of any entertainer in the 21st century. Granted, it's possible the back of that shirt could feature a big colorful dragon or something, but I doubt it.

But can we agree that there's something unexpected about this first look? Something that has me questioning whether this woman's real name is actually Rosaline Rotwood.

Why Is Rosaline Rotwood So Friendly With Thing?

To me, Lady Gaga's look isn't even as striking as the fact that Thing is a key part of the photo. We're not talking about a prop or piece of wardrobe that can be tossed on and off without questioning anything. Thing is a sentient character, so for it to be posing with Rosaline means that it's there agreeably and not under duress.

To me, for Rosaline to be posing with a member of the Addams Family (biological or otherwise), it must mean the two characters already have a positive standing relationship of some kind. Considering we never saw Thing rushing off to go on mysterious hangouts during the first season and a half of this show, I think their chumminess predates Wednesday's arrival at Nevermore.

Considering Rosaline Rotwood is described as being a legendary instructor at Nevermore, one could theorize that Thing knew her back when Morticia attended the Academy. But that would require the character to age differently from the norm, since Lady Gaga is technically 16 years younger than Morticia actress Catherine Zeta-Jones. Which leads me to the big question...

Is Lady Gaga Actually Playing Morticia's Sister Ophelia Frump?

This definitely isn't a new theory or anything, since Ophelia was referenced an almost cartoonish number of times in the first four episodes, to the point where theories abound regarding other female characters possibly being revealed as the long-missing sister. And given she hasn't arrived yet, Lady Gaga's new character was also in that mix.

Actually seeing her makes that theory seem even more likely, too. Because within Addams Family lore, Ophelia is known to counter her siblings' dark aesthetic by wearing white and other light colors, while also rocking a head of light blonde hair. Not exactly the most common look at Nevermore.

Plus, if she's actually Ophelia, that would likely help explain why Thing is part of the first look, if one assumes that Thing has been with Morticia since her teen years and would have been around Ophelia at the same time. Sure there are probably other explanations that would make sense out of this, but probably nothing as interesting for the storyline. (I guess she could be revealed as a sister to Gwendoline Christie's returning character Larissa Weems, but it would still take some plot-juicing for it to matter.)

After Season 1 of Wednesday ended, I was left with so many questions about how this Addams family member’s story would continue. Well, now Wednesday Season 2 has dropped its first teaser trailer, providing us with a bit of context about what’s to come. However, overall, it left us with more questions than answers about the Jenna Ortega-led show.

So, as we wait on pins and needles for Wednesday’s August 6 premiere on Netflix’s 2025 schedule, here are the inquiries I’ll be spiraling over:

Who Is Steve Buscemi Playing?

Ever since Steve Buscemi’s involvement in Wednesday was announced, I’ve been dying to know who he’ll play. Last season, we saw Gwendoline Christie’s principal go down, so that job is open, and I was curious if he’d take it. It’s still unclear if that’s the case. However, this teaser did give us the tiniest amount of insight into the Boardwalk Empire star’s mystery character.

In the trailer, we see him at a microphone at what appears to be a carnival. He’s wearing a Nevermore blazer and seems to have some showmanship. I’d assume he’s an employee at the school. However, right now, we don’t really know what his affiliation or job is.

We do know his character’s name is Barry Dort, though. So, at least we have that, thanks to the caption provided with the image above.

However, I’m still curious if he’ll be a friend or foe to Wednesday, and my curiosity cannot be quelled when it comes to the impact he’ll have on the students at Nevermore.

What Role Will Pugsley Play This Season?

During Season 1 of Wednesday, we really didn’t see Isaac Ordonez’s Pugsley at all. He showed up with the family, but other than that, he didn’t have a significant role in the story. Now, with Season 2, it would appear that we’ve done a complete 180 with his story.

In the teaser, there are two moments involving the youngest Addams that really caught my attention. The first was his use of some sort of zappy eclectic power like Uncle Fester’s. That has me wondering so many things, including, but not limited to: how did he get this power, why does he have it, and when will it come in handy for Wednesday?

The other point of intrigue came when he stepped out of the car, and he was wearing that signature purple Nevermore blazer.

It would appear that Wednesday’s little brother is about to play a much bigger role in Season 2 as he’ll be attending the school and has power. The question I now have is: what kind of part will he play in his sister’s story?

Will Morticia Be Involved In The Mystery?

In the voiceover on the trailer, a woman notes that all families have secrets, and said secrets have “deadly consequences.” What we’re seeing during that moment is Morticia looking suspicious while holding a notebook that has terrifying scribbles in it.

After that, Wednesday says:

Well, that makes me worry a lot, actually. What on Earth does that mean? What is the meaning of that notebook? And how will Morticia Addams impact the mystery her daughter is trying to solve?

It seems Catherine Zeta-Jones will play a significantly larger role this season, based on all the intrigue surrounding Morticia in this teaser, and I’m desperate to learn more.

Overall, this tiny but mighty teaser trailer got me amped for Wednesday Season 2’s premiere on the 2025 TV schedule. It set the stage for an epic and creepy mystery, and gave us just enough to theorize over while we wait to use our Netflix subscriptions on August 6 to stream part one of this long-awaited sophomore installment.

Some of the biggest stars in Hollywood are also some of the most often snubbed by the Oscars when it comes to Best Actor and Actress Academy Awards. Legends like Harrison Ford, Jamie Lee Curtis, and many others have somehow had some of the most successful careers in film, but have only been nominated for one Academy Award in the acting categories. 

Harrison Ford - Nominated For Best Actor (Witness)

Harrison Ford is a national treasure, most everyone will agree. Everyone, it seems, except The Academy, as he has only ever nominated once, for 1985’s Witness. This actor has been in two of the biggest franchises in history, plus the two Jack Ryan movies and so much more. He should’ve been nominated for The Fugitive at least. 

Eddie Murphy - Nominated For Best Supporting Actor (Dreamgirls)

Another icon of the late 20th Century and early 21st Century is Eddie Murphy, who has only been nominated once, for Dreamgirls in 2007. This is probably more testament to the Academy's apparent lack of appreciation for some of his best comedic performances because I dare you to find better ones in history than Murphy in Beverly Hills Cop or Coming To America. 

Gwyneth Paltrow - Nominated For Best Actress (Shakespeare In Love)

Gwyneth Paltrow will likely be a polarizing name on this list because the actor herself tends to be, but she’s had a number of wonderful performances over the years. Roles in The Talented Mr. Ripley, Emma, and The Royal Tenenbaums are all worthy of more consideration than she’s received over the years. She's earned just one nomination for Shakespeare in Love, for which she also won. 

Taraji P. Henson - Nominated For Best Supporting Actress (The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button)

Taraji P. Henson has been nominated for more than thirty acting awards across her sterling career. Somehow, only one of those was for an Academy Award. Her lone Oscar nomination was for The Curious Case of Benjamin Button in 2008, and it’s frankly astounding that’s the only one. At a minimum, she should have been nominated for Hidden Figures alongside her cast-mate Octavia Spencer. Hopefully, this changes with her role in the upcoming remake of The Color Purple. 

Hugh Jackman - Nominated For Best Actor (Les Misérables)

Hugh Jackman is one award away from achieving EGOT status. The “O” is missing and shockingly he’s only been nominated once for an Oscar, for his performance in Les Misérables. The multi-talented Jackman has won so many awards, but is shut out yearly at the Academy Awards. The Oscars may not show much respect to comic book films, but everyone else does, and saying he should have been nominated for Logan isn’t a stretch, nor is saying it about his performance in The Greatest Showman.

Jamie Lee Curtis - Nominated For Best Supporting Actress (Everything Everywhere All At Once)

Jamie Lee Curtis is one of the most versatile actors of her generation. Horror, comedy, drama, she does it all. And yet, she has little to show for it in terms of Oscar nominations. She finally was nominated (and won) for Everything Everywhere All At Once but where were the nominations for My Girl and A Fish Called Wanda?

Salma Hayek - Nominated For Best Actress (Frida)

It’s been more than two decades since Salma Hayek was first nominated for an Oscar, for 2001’s Frida and she’s not been nominated since. Hayek is an icon and one of the most beloved actors today, yet never seems to get the attention of the Academy. This is likely in part due to the discounting of action films, which have become Hayek’s bread and butter, but that doesn’t mean her performances in movies like Traffic and Beatriz at Dinner weren't worthy of attention.

Matthew McConaughey - Nominated For Best Actor (Dallas Buyers Club)

When Matthew McConaughey won the Oscar for Dallas Buyers Club after being nominated for the first and only time, he led his speech with his trademark “Alright, alright, alright” and while his role in Dazed and Confused is a classic, he certainly deserved nominations for other roles, like how about a nod for his supporting role in The Wolf Of Wall Street or his performance in the vastly underrated Mud?

Samuel L. Jackson - Nominated For Best Supporting Actor (Pulp Fiction)

If there is anyone on the list that should be a perennial nominee, it’s Samuel L. Jackson. His lone nomination came from his unforgettable and meme-able turn in Pulp Fiction, but he’s an actor who steals every scene he's in, in a good way. Just his roles in Quentin Tarantino films alone, like Django Unchained and The Hateful Eight, are worthy of nominations, but it hasn’t happened, sadly. Thankfully for all of us, Jackson was given an honorary Oscar in 2021 for his contributions to film, which is some consolation. 

Uma Thurman - Nominated For Best Supporting Actress (Pulp Fiction)

Speaking of Pulp Fiction, the Tarantino classic also led to Uma Thurman’s one and only Academy Award nomination. Despite being one of the biggest stars on the planet, Thurman seems to have no luck getting the attention of the Academy. One role that really stands out is in the under-appreciated Prime. 

Benedict Cumberbatch - Nominated For Best Actor (The Imitation Game)

One has to believe that more nominations will be coming for Benedict Cumberbatch. Thus far, his only acknowledgment from the Oscars was for his wonderful performance as Alan Turing in The Imitation Game. There are plenty of other roles he could have been nominated for, especially as William Bulger in Black Mass and Julian Assange in The Fifth Estate and that’s just the roles in which he’s played real people! 

Mark Wahlberg - Nominated For Best Supporting Actor (The Departed)

In 1990, no one would have expected “Marky” Mark Wahlberg to appear on any kind of list like that, but almost 35 years later, it’s astounding his only Oscar nomination has been for The Departed (one of our picks for the 100 best movies of the 2000s). You have to question why he was ignored for Boogie Nights, for sure. The Fighter is another clear snub, though he was technically nominated for Best Picture as a producer of the film. 

Halle Berry - Nominated For Beat Actress (Monster's Ball)

When Halle Berry earned her one Oscar nomination for 2001’s Monster’s Ball, she was the odds-on favorite to win. She had become one of the biggest stars of the 1990s and now was her time to shine. She won, of course, but sadly, it would be the last time Berry would be nominated, so far, at least. It’s a shame because there are plenty of roles she’d be deserving of a nomination, like Frankie & Alice, for which she was nominated for a Golden Globe.

Laurence Fishburne - Nominated For Best Actor (What's Love Got To Do With It)

This could be the most shocking on the list. At first thought, you might guess Laurence Fishburne was nominated for his amazing work as Furious Styles in Boyz n the Hood or Professor Phipps in John Singleton’s other masterpiece, Higher Learning. Alas, the Matrix star has only one nomination, for playing Ike Turner in What’s Love Got To Do With It, and he didn’t win. 

Josh Brolin  - Nominated For Best Supporting Actor (Milk)

Josh Brolin has been a favorite since he was a teenager in The Goonies. He’s also starred in some powerhouse movies, like Sicario and, most of all, No Country For Old Men. No Country won a slew of Oscars including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Supporting Actor for Javier Barden, and yet Brolin wasn’t even nominated. It frankly doesn’t make sense. Brolin’s lone nomination came from his wonderful performance in Milk, but that was the year that the late Heath Ledger won for The Dark Knight.

Sharon Stone - Nominated For Best Actress (Casino)

You could argue that while Sharon Stone was brilliant in Casino, it wasn’t even her best performance, though it’s the only time she’s been nominated. She wasn’t nominated for Basic Instinct, despite winning the Golden Globe for the role, nor for the underrated The Muse in 2000. At least we have Casino. 

Tilda Swinton - Nominated For For Best Supporting Actress (Michael Clayton)

2007's Michael Clayton was awash in acting nominations, including George Clooney for Best Actor and Tom Wilkinson for Best Supporting Actor. The only winner of the night, though, was Tilda Swinton for Best Supporting Actress. Over her incredible career, Swinton has been honored for other roles, like her parts in The Deep End, We Need to Talk About Kevin, and even Snowpiercer, but this remains her only Oscar nod. 

Liam Neeson - Nominated For Best Actor (Schindler’s List)

Long before Liam Neeson re-invented himself as an action star in summer blockbusters, he was a character actor carving out a nice career in film. Then came the epic Schindler's List. He was nominated for the Oscar for Best Actor in a movie, though he lost out to Tom Hanks for Philadelphia. In the 30 years since, Neeson has not been nominated, not even for fantastic turns in The Gangs of New York, Michael Collins, or Rob Roy. For shame.  

Lupita Nyong'o - Nominated For Best Actress (12 Years A Slave)

Lupita Nyong'o burst onto the Hollywood scene with her heartbreakingly beautiful performance in 12 Years A Slave. She won the Academy Award for Best Actress and has since been racking up the accolades everywhere... except the Oscars. Despite well-received turns in Us and Queen of Katwe, not to mention her roles in the Black Panther films, she hasn't again been nominated. 

Sean Connery - Nominated For Best Supporting Actors (The Untouchables)

Sean Connery was one of the biggest movie stars in the world, and yet he was virtually ignored by the Academy for his whole career. Setting aside his brilliance as James Bond, Connery should’ve earned nods for The Hunt For Red October, and The Name Of The Rose, at least. Instead, his only nomination came for The Untouchables, which, thankfully, he won. 

Alec Baldwin - Nominated For Best Supporting Actor (The Cooler)

Another fantastic performance in The Hunt for Red October that didn’t get recognition is Alec Baldwin’s as Jack Ryan. Baldwin could’ve been nominated for either of his two on-screen performances in 1992, Glengarry Glen Ross, and Prelude To A Kiss, but again he was snubbed. His only nomination came for his role in The Cooler.

Diane Lane - Nominated For Best Actress (Unfaithful)

Diane Lane found her footing in film in the late 1990s with outstanding performances in movies like A Walk on the Moon and The Perfect Storm, either of which could've been award-winning. Instead, it wasn't until 2002's Unfaithful that she got the recognition she deserved when she was nominated for Best Actress. 

Bill Murray - Nominated For Best Actor (Lost in Translation)

The Academy has missed out on great performances by one of the best comedic actors the world has ever seen in Bill Murray. Stripes, Ghostbusters, What About Bob?, and Groundhog's Day are some of the most beloved comedies of all time, and Murray was never recognized. Nor was he for his brilliant turns in Rushmore and The Royal Tenenbaums. Murray's sole nomination came, deservingly, for 2003's Lost In Translation. 

Jennifer Connelly - Nominated For Best Supporting Actress (A Beautiful Mind)

Jennifer Connelly has been wowing audiences for decades, including in 2022's massive hit Top Gun: Maverick. It appears though, that she has not been wowing the Academy, as she's only ever been nominated for one Oscar, which she won, for her role in 2001's A Beautiful Mind. Other roles have earned her other awards, like her parts in Requiem For A Dream and The House of Sand and Fog, but to date, nothing from the Academy Awards. 

Kathleen Turner - Nominated For Best Actress (Peggy Sue Got Married)

Despite massive hits like Body Heat, Serial Mom, and of course, Romancing The Stone, Kathleen Turner has only earned one Oscar nomination, for the vastly underrated Francis Ford Coppola film from 1986, Peggy Sue Got Married. Surely this icon of the screen deserves more. 

Robert Redford - Nominated For Best Actor (The Sting)

It’s astounding that the great Robert Redford has only one acting nomination in his whole career, for The Sting. Though he defined what a movie star is, Redford never received Oscar attention for roles in All The President’s Men, All Is Lost, Out Of Africa, and Three Days of the Condor, among many others. The list is endless here. He has been nominated twice for Best Director, for Ordinary People and Quiz Show, and won for the former. Redford also received an Honorary Oscar in 2002.

Catherine Zeta-Jones - Nominated For Best Actress (Chicago)

At the 75th Academy Awards, Chicago was the biggest winner of the night, garnering 13 nominations and winning six of them, including Catherine Zeta-Jones for Best Actress. Alas, this, so far, is the only time the Welsh actress has even been nominated, despite powerhouse roles in Traffic and Entrapment. At least she shares this dubious distinction with her husband Michael Douglas. 

Micheal Douglas - Nominated For Best Actor (Wall Street)

Gordon Gekko in Wall Street is one of the all-time great cinema villains and Michael Douglas richly deserved the Academy Award he won for playing the part in 1988. An actor with a slew of amazing performances from Falling Down, to Traffic, to Fatal Attraction and more, with only one acting nomination. He was also nominated/won for Best Picture in 1976 as the producer of One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest. 

Lauren Bacall - Nominated For Best Supporting Actress (The Mirror Has Two Faces)

Lauren Bacall was one of the true icons of the Golden Age of Hollywood, starring in such films as The Big Sleep, Key Largo, and many, many more over her career. Shockingly, it took until 1997 for the Academy to recognize her work when she was finally nominated for a Best Supporting Actress role for The Mirror Has Two Faces. She did finally receive a well-deserved honorary Oscar in 2000. 

Kevin Costner - Nominated For Best Actor (Dances With Wolves)

Dances With Wolves was the darling of the Oscars in 1991. It was nominated for 12 awards, winning seven, including Best Director for Kevin Costner and Best Picture, which Costner won as a producer. It was also the one and only time Costner has been nominated for an acting Academy Award. There are so many other iconic parts he should’ve gotten more credit for, like JFK, Bull Durham, The Untouchables, and Hidden Figures, just to name a few. 

It just goes to show that even being a huge box office draw, and a megastar doesn't mean you'll get recognition from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Oscars are incredibly hard to win and even being nominated is an honor, they say. Still, for everyone on the list, you'd think they'd have more than one.  

For as long as there have been famous people, there have been celebrity couples. There’s something that the public loves about seeing A-listers paired, and one of the longest running relationships in Hollywood is shared between Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas. The two have been paired since back in 1998, and clearly are still very much in love. And yes, Zeta-Jones makes Douglas “whip it out” while on the golf course. Here’s the wild story.

On top of being in a strong relationship, both Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas continues to star in high profile projects. The latter actor recently reprise his role as Hank Pym in Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania, doing a ton of press for the Marvel blockbuster in the process. In a recent Q&A for The Guardian, he was asked to confirm a story about his wife asking him to take his trousers off when losing a golf. He clarified the rules of the game, saying:

Well, that's one way of enjoying a game of golf. While many players like to relax on the course and even have an adult beverage, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas have their own game within the game. And if the Fatal Attraction actor starts off badly, he has to drop trow. Talk about some high stakes.

Michael Douglas' comments to The Guardian seemingly shows one way that Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones have been together for so long: they make each other laugh. Sometimes that just happens to occur on a golf course, and involves some nudity. I have to image they golf at very nice clubs, which is partly why this story is such a head turner. 

Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas have been married since November of 2000, so their marriage has already last over two decades of time. On top of being together for laughs and professional success, the couple faced hard time when Douglas was diagnosed with tongue cancer. This challenging time was reportedly hard on the Oscar-winning actress, who suffered from depression and eventually went public as someone living with bipolar disorder. Talk about a strong marriage.

While Michael Douglas recently returned to the MCU in Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania, his famous wife has also been keeping busy. She recently played the role of Morticia Addams in Netflix's Wednesday series, which was renewed for Season 2 on the streaming service.

Ant-Man 3 is still in theaters now, although its box office numbers are declining quickly. Be sure to check out the 2023 movie release dates to plan your next movie experience. 

While Wednesday Addams isn't much of a smiler, I bet she had to work really hard to not give the tiniest of grins about this news. Following rumors that Wednesday may go to a different streamer, the Addams Family spinoff has been renewed for Season 2 by Netflix in the most fitting way, and the cast, including Jenna Ortega, is elated. 

I must admit, Netflix announced the renewal in the most fitting way, dropping a video that features Lady Gaga’s song “Bloody Mary.” The song went viral on TikTok along with Wednesday’s moves, despite the actual song in the show being “Goo Goo Muck,” and obviously the streaming service had to pay homage to the trend that heavily influenced the series’ success. 

Following the announcement, Wednesday herself took to social media to post about her adoration for the fans of the hit series. Jenna Ortega retweeted the announcement and wrote (with a bit more love and affection than Wednesday probably would):

Following the announcement, many of Wednesday's supporting cast also posted about their excitement to return to Nevermore Academy. This includes the Addams Family matriarch, Morticia Addams, Catherine Zeta-Jones posted the video Netflix released with the loving caption: 

The Oscar-winning actress has been open and excited about her love for the show, even revealing her own daughter has a bit of Wednesday Addams in her.

Along with Wednesday’s mother, the actor behind Tyler, Wednesday's crush-turned-villain, Hunter Doohan posted the video too, with the cheeky caption: 

He makes a valid point. The show has broken records, and become a major, major hit, and TikTok is to thank for a good portion of that success, in my opinion. Fans all over have been recreating Wednesday’s fashion and dance, and a professional figure skater incorporated the choreography into her routine. Lady Gaga herself also got dolled up to “dance, dance, dance” after her song went viral along with Ortega’s moves. 

Gwendoline Christie, who played the headmistress at Nevermore, posted about the renewal too. The Game of Thrones alum wrote: 

This got me wondering, her character tragically dies at the end of Season 1, so I think Christie’s involvement in Season 2. It will 100% be something to keep in mind when hypothesizing over the questions posed following Wednesday’s finale. 

Along with these three cast members who re-posted the renewal video, Emma Myers, who plays Wednesday’s BFF Enid simply put the video on her Instagram story. 

It’s safe to say Wednesday was one of the bigger hits on the 2022 TV schedule. And with the news about Season 2, the millions and millions of fans who made the show a hit are likely elated that we’ll get to go back to the creepy, kooky and all-together ooky world of Nevermore Academy. 

While there is currently no news on when Season 2 will be released, you can watch all of Wednesday’s first season with a Netflix subscription. 

To honor her own Wednesday Addams in true Morticia Addams fashion, Catherine Zeta-Jones posted a hilarious throwback video of her “little rain cloud” Carys on Instagram. The actress’ daughter is 19 now, but Zeta-Jones posted a clip of her at a concert singing with other kiddos, and staring at her mom in a way that gives Jenna Ortega’s Wednesday stare a run for its money. 

Carys Zeta Douglas is Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas’ second child. She was born in 2003, and is now 19 years old. Meaning, she had quite the reaction when she saw the video her mom posted (but more on that later), especially considering she has the Wednesday attitude her mom alluded to in the caption:

Carys then responded to the video, by reposting it on her Instagram story, and she seemed to find it both funny, and slightly embarrassing, as she added a few choice emojis to the post: 

Even though Carys didn’t show off any of Wednesday dance moves, she has the stare down. Meanwhile, Zeta-Jones’ continued to prove she was the perfect choice for Morticia Addams, as she expertly used the Addams Family matriarch's vocabulary in the hilarious caption. 

While Jenna Ortega’s Wednesday has many great nods to the classic character, and she has the goth fashion, and death stares down to a T, low-key, I think Carys Zeta Douglas gives her a run for her money. Honestly, if Wednesday gets renewed for Season 2, it would be fun to see Carys make a cameo as a cousin or long-lost older sister, just to pay homage to her mother. 

Even though we don’t know if Wednesday has a Season 2 yet, it stayed in Netflix’s top ten for a while, and was only recently dethroned. Seeing that it went viral for Wednesday’s fashion and dance moves, and caused a lot of reactions online, it feels like a second season will eventually come. However, while we wait Zeta-Jones has another fun project you can check out. 

The Chicago star gave us her own take on a classic character on Wednesday, and now you can see her in the cast of National Treasure: Edge of History over on Disney+. Rather than playing a loving (in her own unique way) mother on Wednesday, in this National Treasure reboot, she plays the main antagonist Billie. 

On top of giving great performances in these new series, Zeta-Jones is also killing the social media game by posting fun throwbacks of her kiddos. While we wait to see what other fun videos the Academy Award-winning actress posts of her kids, you can watch her on Wednesday with a Netflix subscription, and National Treasure: Edge of History with a Disney+ subscription. 

National Treasure is a beloved adventure franchise that has long deserved a much-needed third entry. Nicolas Cage led the first two National Treasure films to great success, galavanting around the world trying to locate treasure troves based on history-based clues. The movies are an essential piece of many fans' more youthful years, and such childlike wonderment was ignited again when it was announced Disney+ ordered up a TV series based on the films, even if Cage wasn't attached to star. Now, the reviews are in for the much anticipated series, titled National Treasure: Edge of History, and there are differing thoughts floating around out there. 

The spinoff series premiered on Disney+ on Wednesday, December 14th, with an all-star cast including Catherine Zeta-Jones, Justin Bartha, Harvey Keitel, with a few new faces as well: Zuri Reed, Lyndon Smith, and Lisette Olivera. The show follows Jess as she embarks on a Pan-American treasure hunt while searching for information about her own family’s history. The first two episodes are currently available, with subsequent episodes landing on Disney+ weekly. 

While part of the franchise's praise has come from its tone, many critics found there was something lost in the new series where tone is concerned. Angie Han from The Hollywood Reporter said that while there was a silliness present, the fun was lacking, especially without Cage's manic energy guiding it all. She explained: 

Brian Tallerico from RobertEbert.com found that the show didn’t invoke the same levels of excitement as the original films, and seemed to underestimate the intelligence of its teen-geared audience.

Leila Jordan for Paste Magazine also had problems with the way many of the “cringe-worthy” teenagers were written in Edge of History. However, arguably the bigger issue she had was with the lack of actual mystery-solving that takes place in the episodic series.

All of that said, Edge of History did score some praise as well. Many critics seemed to enjoy the new direction the show was going, and the steps being taken to reattain the magic so many felt from the original films, even if there's work to do first. David Cote at the A.V. Club liked Olivera as the spunky lead of the series, and thought she did a lot for its charm.

The Guardian’s Lucy Mangan found the show a bit mindless, if still fun, in how it brings back the vibe of mid-budget films from the '90s, and feels that it's sure to entertain audiences.

While the sequel may not rise to the heights as the much-loved Nicolas Cage-led National Treasure films, there still seems to be a lot to like about National Treasure: Edge of History. Early reviews for episode series tend to be more mixed, depending on how many episodes are available for screening, so they may not speak to the entirety of a project. But it sounds like many may see and embrace the heart in the new Disney+ series, with the understanding that it's more brain-on-pause entertainment than anything super deep.

When it comes to some of the best shows on Disney+, there are plenty you can probably think of, from The Mandalorian (which is getting a Season 3 soon enough) to High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, but there’s a new player in town and its name is National Treasure: Edge of History. The series, which is supposed to be a continuation of the National Treasure film franchise, follows a young woman who is sent on a quest after she is given a clue that might connect a treasure to her late father. 

While Nicolas Cage is not going to be in the series, there are still plenty of other stars in the National Treasure: Edge of History cast, and you might have recognized them. Here is where you’ve seen them before. 

Lisette Olivera (Jess) 

Starting off with the star of the series, we take a look at Lisette Olivera, who plays Jess in National Treasure: Edge of History, our main character, and someone who is sent on this treasure hunt. As an actress, Olivera has appeared in a few things that you might recognize her from, specifically two films called I Always Said After and We Need To Do Something. Olivera has also been in the TV series, Total Eclipse, where she played Belle. 

However, her starring part here as Jess will be her first major role in a TV show, and it’s an exciting one.

Catherine Zeta-Jones (Billie) 

If you haven’t heard of Catherina Zeta-Jones, you’ve truly been living under a rock, because she has been all over movies and television for many years. While she portrays Billie in National Treasure: Edge of History, one of the main antagonists, Zeta-Jones is no stranger to playing awesome roles such as this.

Most recently, in 2022, fans might recognize her as Morticia Addams from the highly-successful (and bingeable) show on Netflix, Wednesday as part of the Wednesday cast. Morticia Addams is Wednesday’s mother – but Zeta-Jones has been in many other amazing films and series that you might recognize her from. 

Zeta-Jones started off in stage productions, but later moved into big-screen movies. In terms of some of her biggest films, she starred in the critically acclaimed musical, Chicago (which won her an Oscar for Best Actress in a Supporting Role), 1001 Nights, The Mask of Zorro, Entrapment, Traffic, Intolerable Cruelty, Ocean’s Twelve, The Terminal, No Reservations, and so much more. Truly, she has been all over the map. 

But, Zeta-Jones has also had so much success in television, appearing in many other shows besides Wednesday. She had a starring role in Prodigal Son, portrayed Olivia de Havilland in the Ryan Murphy-created show, Feud: Bette and Joan, was in The Darling Buds of May, and in the miniseries The Cinder Path and Titanic. She even portrayed Catherine the Great in a TV movie called Catherine the Great (not to be confused with the TV series, The Great)

So much outstanding work from her – and I love seeing her in these roles, because she rocks it every single time. 

Jake Austin Walker (Liam) 

Moving on, we take a look at Jake Austin Walker, who portrays Liam in National Treasure: Edge of History. In terms of movies, he’s appeared in several, including Burning Palms, No One Lives, The Chaperone, 12 Mighty Orphans and more. 

He also had a pretty big role in the television series, Rectify, and was also in the now-cancelled series, Stargirl. Something else you might have seen him in is a guest role on Fear the Walking Dead, a spinoff of The Walking Dead. 

Jordan Rodrigues (Ethan) 

Next up on our list is Jordan Rodrigues, who portrays Ethan in National Treasure: Edge of History. Rodrigues has appeared in many movies and television shows prior to his role in the Disney+ series. 

Some of his biggest roles have appeared in movies like the coming of age film, Lady Bird, as well as the movie, Breaking Through. He was also a star of Dance Academy: The Movie, a film that is based on a television show he was also on, simply called Dance Academy. 

He also had roles on shows such as Home and Away, The Fosters, Faking It, Light as a Father, and LA’s Finest.

Zuri Reed (Tasha) 

Zuri Reed portrays Tasha, one of the friends who joins Jess on her journey in National Treasure: Edge of History. Reed hasn’t had as much experience yet in the world of movies, with her only credit thus far being in the film Applesauce, but she’s appeared in several TV shows in small and big roles. 

Some of them include the underrated Netflix show, The Get-Down, Law and Order: SVU, The Last O.G., and Flatbush Misdemeanors. So, it’s nice to see her appear in another television show. Hopefully, after this role we’ll be seeing her in a lot more movies. 

Antonio Cipriano (Oren) 

Next up is Antonio Cipriano, who portrays Oren in National Treasure: Edge of History, another friend of Jess’s who goes on the search with her for this supposed treasure. Cipriano, like some of his cast-mates, got his start in theater, appearing in productions such as Jagged Little Pill and the staged production of The Notebook. But he’s also appeared in several television shows. 

These include the HBO Max original, The Sex Lives of College Girls, City On a Hill, and he’s going to be in a new show called Safehaven, so it’s clear he’s breaking into the world of Hollywood. He hasn’t been in any movies yet, but I’m sure you’ll see him pop up in one soon enough. 

Lyndon Smith (Agent Ross)

Last but not least, we take a look at Lyndon Smith, who portrays Agent Ross in National Treasure: Edge of History. In terms of movies, Smith has been in a few major roles, including The Forger, Secret in Their Eyes, and Step Sisters, but she’s appeared in far more television shows and kept her talents there. 

She had a recurring role in the series Parenthood, 90210, Extant, The Middle, Sorry for Your Loss, and in one of the best dramedy shows ever, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, among other smaller guest spots. 

With so many fun actors and actresses, National Treasure: Edge of History is looking to be a fun ride. Now, if you don’t mind me, I’m going to go and watch Catherine Zeta-Jones in Chicago again. She blows me away every time.  

Wednesday quickly became one of the best shows to binge watch on Netflix when it premiered to record numbers back in 2022. Now that it recently returned to the 2025 Netflix release schedule with its highly-acticipated Season 2, it’s a great time to talk about where it lands within the long-running The Addams Family franchise. Wednesday has been particularly celebrated for having the first predominantly Latino Addams family. As you watch, this question is sure to come up: Was The Addams Family always supposed to be Latino?

The answer is complicated. For many years The Addams Family has had Hispanic and Latin roots, but hasn’t fully embraced them until Wednesday. In order to understand why Wednesday casting Latino actors makes sense and perhaps better represents the kooky and spooky family than ever before, let’s take a look down memory lane for the characters’ history leading to the hit streaming show.

The First Iterations Of The Addams Family And Its Loose Latin Roots

The '90s Addams Family Movies Officially Brought Latin Representation To The Franchise

The Addams Family then found a resurgence in the ‘90s with Barry Sonnenfeld’s pair of movies, 1991’s The Addams Family and 1993’s Addams Family Values. In this iteration, Puerto Rican actor Raúl Juliá played Gomez, Anjelica Huston played Morticia, Christina Ricci was Wednesday and Christopher Lloyd was Uncle Fester among other The Addams Family cast members. With Raul Juliá’s role as Gomez, the Addams family certainly became truer to its Hispanic origins, though the rest of the family was rather culturally ambiguous – Ricci and Huston for example have mixed Italian and Scottish ancestry.

That being said, Juliá brought some Latino representation to the franchise. Teen Vogue’s Ella Cerón recalled the Hollywood father being the “first time” she ever saw her own dad “reflected back” to her on the big screen and meant something to her, despite his heritage not being directly addressed in either movie.

Juliá’s version of the character has become so beloved that when the MGM animated Addams Family movie casted its Gomez, they cast another Latino actor to play the role in Oscar Isaac. The actor cited Juliá’s portrayal as one of his “biggest inspirations” when embodying the role in a Universal Pictures featurette. It’s safe to say Juliá has left a long-lasting mark on the role that will be compared to all other iterations for years to come.

Tim Burton’s Wednesday Netflix Series Fully Embraces The Addams Family As A Family With Hispanic Heritage

This brings us to Wednesday, which has two full seasons available to stream with a Netflix subscription. Jenna Ortega is the first Wednesday Addams to also display a Latino descent like her father, with the actress being Puerto Rican and Mexican, and Luis Guzmán being Puerto Rican himself. Zeta-Jones is of Welsh and Irish Catholic descent, making the Addams a mixed race family, as other versions of them have displayed, but their children are finally also shown as Latino (with Pugley also being played by Isaac Ordonez, who has Colombian and Belize roots and Uncle Fester actor Fred Armisen being of a Venezuelan background).

It’s the most respectful depiction of the series’ roots yet. In a Netflix interview, Ortega said this about what the series’ representation means to her:

Rather than the family being culturally ambiguous, the Wednesday cast makes the family indisputably Latino. In the first season, Wednesday meets her ancestor Goody Addams, who lived in Jericho, Vermont in the 1600s, like many Mexicans did during that time. Through the first season’s storyline, the Addams being “outcasts” are depicted in regards to witchcraft and other supernatural reasonings, but the storyline can also viewed as an allegory for colonialism, and how native people in places like the Americas were alienated by settlers in order to take over their land.

Additionally, in Season 2, Episode 5 Wednesday declared her favorite date to die would be on El Día De Los Muertos (a.k.a. The Day of the Dead) because it’s her favorite holiday. Later in the episode, Gomez and Pugsley wander into Pilgrim World’s celebration of it, which is pointed out to be full of cultural appropriation, and a disregard for the holiday’s true roots. The inclusion of these moments in Wednesday shows the Addams Family is officially being recognized as a Latino family. Even though it didn’t start as such, over the years it’s become a cultural touchstone of Hispanic and Latino representation in pop culture, and Wednesday helps forward that narrative in a more authentic way.

When it comes to movies that I adore, a film I always grew up watching and loving was The Addams Family, as well as its sequel. Released in the 1990s, the films were a big part of my childhood and I’m about 90% sure that they’re a part of the reason I grew up liking creepy things, like the best horror movies. I'm sure a lot of horror fans started with this kooky family. And, of course, my favorite character was Wednesday. 

Turns out, she’s just about everyone's favorite character in The Addams Family franchise, because that character has gotten her own TV series on Netflix, called Wednesday. The series follows the legendary character as she goes to the school called Nevermore, a place for misfits like herself, while discovering the secrets that the school has hidden. 

With a very large ensemble, the Wednesday cast is full of stars. Here is where you might have seen them before. 

Jenna Ortega (Wednesday Addams)

Starting off with our star, we take a look at Jenna Ortega, who plays the titular character in Wednesday. From the moment I saw Ortega in that first teaser trailer, I knew she was the perfect fit for this role, and with her background, it’s even better. 

While Ortega got her start on children’s television shows, mainly on the Disney Channel, she only started to grow in popularity as she began to appear in more adult roles. She had a main character role in Season 2 of You on Netflix, and has established herself as a scream queen with roles in both 2022’s Scream (a role she is reprising in Scream 6), and in the gory A24 film, X. 

Truly, she may be young, but this actress is just getting started, and I’m sure this is not the last time we are going to see her. 

Gwendoline Christie (Principle Larissa Weems)

Next up on the list is Gwendoline Christie, who portrays the leader of Nevermore, Principle Larissa Weems, in Wednesday. The actress is probably most known for her role in the Game of Thrones cast as Brienne of Tarth, a role she played for several seasons until the show concluded. 

However, Christie has done plenty of other work in the world of television. She played Lexi in Wizards vs Aliens, Lucifer in the fantasy series, The Sandman, and is set to be in the second season of Severance. She also had a role in the Star Wars universe as Captain Phasma, and appeared in films such as The Personal History of David Copperfield, Welcome to Marwen, The Darkest of Minds, and more. 

Jamie McShane (Sheriff Galpin)

Next up on the list, we have Jamie McShane, who plays Sheriff Galpin in Wednesday, someone who isn’t the biggest fan of Nevermore. McShane has been in a variety of television roles, including on the popular FX drama, Sons of Anarchy, as well as in Southland, The Lincoln Lawyer, CSI: Vegas, and Bloodline. He also had small roles in shows like 24, The Fosters, Fear the Walking Dead and more. 

McShane also had a small role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe when he played Agent Jackson in both Thor and The Avengers. He also appeared in movies like Argo, Gone Girl, the Disney+ original film Togo, and Mank among others. 

Percy Hynes White (Xavier Thorpe)

Percy Hynes White plays Xavier Thorpe in Wednesday, and the young actor has done plenty in television ever since he started. White is probably most known for his role in The Gifted, where he played Andy Strucker, but he’s appeared in several other TV shows like Between, Odd Squad, Murdoch Mysteries and more. Recently, he’s been in the cast for Pretty Hard Cases. 

Hunter Doohan (Tyler Galpin)

Next up, we take a look at Hunter Doohan, who plays Tyler Galpin in Wednesday. Doohan is probably most known for his role as Adam Desiato in the fantastic Showtime series, Your Honor, where he stars alongside Bryan Cranston, but he’s done plenty of other great roles, too. 

Doohan played Teenage Warren on Truth Be Told, and guest starred on several other shows including Coffee House Chronicles, Westworld, Schooled, and Aware I’m Rare. He also appeared in the films Where We Disappear and Soundwave. 

Emma Myers (Enid Sinclair)

Moving on, we look at Emma Myers, who plays Enid Sinclair, Wednesday’s cheerful roommate in Wednesday. The talent is relatively new to Hollywood, but she’s guest-starred on several television shows before, including Dead of Night, The Baker and the Beauty, and The Glades. She also appeared in the movie Girl in the Basement. 

However, this will be Emma Myers' first major role on a television series, and one can only imagine what she’ll do next. 

Joy Sunday (Bianca Barclay)

In Wednesday, Joy Sunday portrays Bianca Barclay, a classmate of Wednesday's in the show. Sunday has appeared in multiple TV shows, and had a recurring role in Yas Kween, while also appearing in shows such as Carol’s Second Act, Good Trouble, MacGyver, and Dear White People.

Joy Sunday also appeared in the films Dog, The Beta Test, and Bad Hair. 

Naomi J. Ogawa (Yoko Tanaka)

Next up, we take a look at Naomi J. Ogawa, who portrays Yoko Tanaka in Wednesday, another classmate at Nevermore and a vampire. Ogawa is relatively new to the world of Hollywood, with her only role so far being Kate in the film Skylines, but I’m sure that after Wednesday, it won’t be long before we see her in something else. 

Moosa Mostafa (Eugene Ottinger)

Moosa Mostafa plays Eugene Ottinger in Wednesday, another classmate at Nevermore, and the young actor is still relatively new to the world of television and movies. His only film credit thus far lists him as being a part of St. Bernadette’s class in Nativity Rocks!, and he portrayed Nas in the TV series, The Last Bus. But I’m sure that after Wednesday he’ll pop up in more fun shows and movies soon enough.

Georgie Farmer (Ajax Petropolus)

The last classmate we’re going to be talking about today is Ajax Petropolus, who is played by Georgie Farmer in Wednesday. Farmer is mainly known for his role as Jake Crossley in the TV series, The Evermoor Chronicles, but he’s appeared in several other shows, including The Ministry of Curious Stuff, Ill Behavior, Doctors, and Treadstone. Farmer also appeared in the film, Ready Player One.

Riki Lindhome (Dr. Valerie Kinbott)

Moving on, we take a look at Riki Lindhome, who plays Dr. Valerie Kinbott in Wednesday, a therapist who is trying to help Wednesday. Lindhome has done a lot in television, appearing in shows such as Titus, the fantasy series Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Gilmore Girls, The Big Bang Theory, Enlightened, and more. Lindhome has also lent her voice to the world of animation, with one of her biggest roles being as Kimberly Harris on Duncanville. 

Lindhome has also been very successful in the movie industry, appearing in films such as Million Dollar Baby, Much Ado About Nothing, The Lego Batman Movie, Nothing, Pulse, The Wolf of Snow Hollow, and in 2019, Knives Out. 

Christina Ricci (Marilyn Thornhill)

I mean, we can’t have a Wednesday TV series without one of the most recognizable versions of Wednesday, and that is Christina Ricci – although she doesn’t play the titular character, considering that the actress is all grown up now. However, who she does play in Wednesday is Marilyn Thornhill. 

Ricci has done a lot in her career after her time in The Addams Family franchise. Most recently, she was a part of the cast of Yellowjackets, a role she’ll be reprising in Season 2 of the series. However, Ricci has done a lot on television, including roles on shows like Ally McBeal, Pan Am, The Lizzie Borden Chronicles, and Z: The Beginning of Everything, among many guest appearances. 

Ricci has also appeared in many films, including Casper, Now and Then, The Ice Storm, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Anything Else, Prozac Nation, Speed Racer, The Matrix Resurrections, Penelope, and more. 

The Rest Of The Addams Family

Look, we all know that the series is focused on Wednesday and that is completely alright, but let’s talk about the rest of the Addams family for a little bit before we go, because it’s something to see in Wednesday. 

Playing Morticia Addams is Catherine Zeta-Jones, someone who is well known in the movie world and has been in several critically-acclaimed films. She even won an Academy Award for her starring role in Chicago. Luis Guzman plays Gomez Addams, the patriarch of the family. Guzman has done plenty in the world of movies, appearing in films such as The Limey, Traffic, the Jordan Peele-written movie, Keanu, and more. He was also on the HBO series, Oz. 

Isaac Ordonez plays Pugsley Addams, Wednesday’s little brother, and he is new to Hollywood, as Pugsley is his first major role. Fred Armisen plays Uncle Fester in Wednesday, further continuing his ability to play hilarious characters on television. Armisen has been in the Schmigadoon! cast, Portlandia, Documentary Now!, Moonbase 8 and more. 

Truly, there are so many amazing cast members of this show that we could talk about for hours on end and give them so much praise. And, I’m sure that after Wednesday, we’ll be seeing a lot more of them in movies and on TV – maybe even in a 2023 movie or television release.  

Although The Addams Family has gotten cinematic attention in recent years from two animated movies, this fall will bring another live-action adaptation of this creepy, kooky and altogether ooky clan. Back in June, we got our first look at Jenna Ortega’s Wednesday Addams in the Netflix show Wednesday, and now the first look look at the central character with other members of her family is here. Additionally, Wednesday co-creator Alfred Gough has provided some details on how this Tim Burton-directed streaming series stands apart from past live-action adaptations of this property.

A year ago, it was announced that Luis Guzmán would play Gomez Addams in Wednesday, and a few days later, Catherine Zeta-Jones was cast as Morticia Addams. Wednesday will also feature Isaac Ordonez as Pugsley Addams, and you can see Jenna Ortega’s Wednesday with her brother and parents in the photo below from Vanity Fair:

Wednesday marks the first time since The Addams Family has been depicted in live-action since the ‘90s, which not only delivered the theatrically-released movies The Addams Family and Addams Family Values, but also the direct-to-video movie Addams Family Reunion and the short-lived TV series The New Addams Family. The above picture is definitely giving off the right kind of vibes you’d expect from these characters, although it is strange to see Uncle Fester, Grandmama and Lurch absent from the lineup. While it remains to be seen if the former two will appear in Wednesday, Lurch will be played by George Burcea. 

In any case, considering the kind of gothic content Tim Burton has churned out in his filmmaking career, it’s about time that he’s paired with The Addams Family, and as his first TV outing to boot! Ironically, Burton was pitched the first Addams Family movie back in the early ‘90s, but he passed on it. There was also a stop-motion Addams Family movie planned in the early 2010s that Burton was set to co-write and co-produce, but that was shelved. In any case, among the ways Burton looked to make Wednesday stand out from the previous live-action Addams Family projects was to harken back to the original Addams Family cartoons from Charles Addams with Gomez’s look. As Alfred Gough explained:

Along with Raul Julia, Gomez Addams has been played in live-action by John Astin, Tim Curry and Glenn Taranto, while Oscar Isaac voiced him in the animated movies that came out in 2019 and 2021. Now it’s Luis Guzmán’s turn to bring the character to life, and co-creator Miles Millar had the following to say about this version of the character, along with what Tim Burton hoped to accomplish with Wednesday:

Make no mistake though, don’t go into Wednesday thinking this will be another traditional Addams Family story. The series follows the title protagonist as an older teenager attending Nevermore Academy, a prestigious boarding school for outcasts. Wednesday’s arrival coincides with a series of murders plaguing the town where the institution is based. So while we will be seeing a fair amount of Morticia, Gomez and Pugsly in Wednesday (particularly Mortica, as Catherine Zeta-Jones is a series regular), it needs to be made abundantly clear to Netflix subscribers that Wednesday Addams is front and center in this adaptation. Alfred Gough also mentioned that that Tim Burton was drawn to how he’d be able to explore the Wednesday character without having to “wrap things up in an hour and 45 minutes,” and Miles Millar added that the “ambition of the show was to make it an eight-hour Tim Burton movie.”

Streaming platforms like Disney+ are perfect places to revive brands like the long-dormant, but still beloved, National Treasure franchise. As part of the two-pronged strategy that plans to bring the Nicolas Cage treasure hunting action saga back to life, a streaming series has been in the works to help kick off the episodic side of things. Now that this project has just landed a heavy hitter in its cast, with Catherine Zeta-Jones joining the adventure, I’m particularly pumped to see where this new expansion could go. 

Who Is Catherine Zeta-Jones Playing In Disney+'s National Treasure?

Make no mistake, the Disney+ series is even labeled as such in the most recent announcement, which unveiled Catherine Zeta-Jones as the latest cast member to board the project. As a National Treasure fan, any new project that helps keep the franchise going was bound to get me excited. Casting Ms. Zeta-Jones only acts as a key to further excitement, as she feels like someone who absolutely should be a part of this franchise. Who wouldn't be able to picture her taking on the following character description in the best of ways?

Catherine Zeta-Jones is finally going to be in a Disney franchise that seems like it should have already been on her resume. After movies like Entrapment and The Mask of Zorro, thievery and cunning are qualities that we’ve seen her characters engage in time and again. In a well-oiled machine like this historical treasure race, it feels like it’s hitting the right formula for the Zeta-Jones wheelhouse, which is always exciting to see. 

The character of Billie also sounds like the perfect National Treasure antagonist, as her motivations are right up there with Sean Bean and Ed Harris’ previous baddies. Harris’ Mitch Wilkinson from 2008’s National Treasure: Book of Secrets is an especially potent comparison, as he was less driven by greed and more involved with personal pride. Catherine Zeta-Jones’ Billie is also pursuing “deeper stakes” than money, and it feels like that motivation could lead to a shocking reveal.

I’m only speculating here, but part of the synopsis for this Disney+ series does mention that protagonist Jess, played by Lisette Alexis, is searching for treasure and “the truth about her family’s mysterious past.” If the halves of this theoretical amulet line up like I think they will, Billie is probably looking for the treasure because Jess is doing the same as her potential long-lost daughter. Maybe they’re blood relatives of a different sort, but with the strong current of family treasure hunting a firm pillar of the National Treasure saga, Catherine Zeta-Jones sounds like she could be a very important part of the endgame for this project.

With National Treasure 3’s script being in development for a cinematic release, crossover potential is quite possibly the cherry on top of this entire sundae. If the Disney+ series does well, and connects with the script currently in the works, a Nicolas Cage/Catherine Zeta-Jones meetup could happen down the line. Again, this is a collaboration that should have happened a long time ago, yet Cage and Zeta-Jones have never had the chance. Where better for this to happen than in the absolute joy ride that is the National Treasure saga?

The National Treasure series is slated to start production this month in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Between this and the brand new Tim Allen-led Santa Clause series, the 2022 TV schedule might be a nostalgic treat for all Disney+ subscribers. That is provided that the television arm of this oft-delayed franchise doesn’t hit the same sort of stumbling blocks its movie-sized sibling has frequently encountered.

The Addams Family is returning to television in a brand new way, as Netflix has announced another take on the family for its upcoming live-action Wednesday series from Tim Burton. Academy Award- and Tony Award-winner Catherine Zeta-Jones will be joining previously announced cast members, lead Jenna Ortega and guest star Luis Guzmán.

Catherine Zeta-Jones is set to guest star as none other than Morticia Addams in Wednesday. The sleuthing and supernaturally-infused mystery series follows Jenna Ortega from YOU and Stuck In the Middle as Wednesday Addams, who is now a student at Nevermore Academy. The series will follow Wednesday as she faces a killing spree of the monstrous variety terrorizing a local town, all while attempting to master her psychic abilities and delving into a mystery surrounding her parents from a quarter of a century ago, which of course involves some supernatural elements. Plus, she has some relationship drama on the way!

Wednesday is set to have a total of eight episodes, with legendary director Tim Burton serving as a director and executive producer. The project marks Burton’s directorial TV debut. Meanwhile, the new Netflix series will mark Catherine Zeta-Jones’ Prodigal Son follow-up. The actress joined the Fox series in the back half of the second season, opposite Michael Sheen. While her character had an interesting twist that revealed a more manipulative side to Dr. Vivian Capshaw, the series was ultimately cancelled after two seasons. Thanks to Wednesday, Zeta-Jones won't be absent from TV for long.

It was first announced in October 2020 that Tim Burton would be heading to TV for an Addams Family series. The plotline is certainly intriguing, with the series focusing on Wednesday Addams rather than more of an ensemble project. And with rising star Jenna Ortega starring as the titular Addams character, she could be the perfect fit. Luis Guzmán was just recently announced to be playing Gomez Addams. His take on the iconic character will most likely be different from previous portrayals, which is why the casting is so perfect.

There is no telling just who will be cast next in Wednesday, and whether or not they’ll be bringing in the rest of the Addams Family clan. There have been many different versions of the fictional household throughout the years so it will be interesting to see how the Netflix version will hold up. This will be Tim Burton’s first Addams Family project but it is right up his alley. With him at the helm, it is going to be one to watch. Maybe this will be the start of his TV ventures and he’ll add more series to his filmography.

Ryan Murphy and FX are getting sued due to a portrayal of on Feud, and the initial details sound pretty serious. Olivia de Havilland has filed suit against Murphy and the network, and could possibly derail Season 2 of Feud if successful. Here's what we know so far regarding this "feud," and how Havilland says the series has damaged her reputation.

Olivia de Havilland, who Deadline confirms at 101 years old is the only person portrayed in Feud who is still alive, is suing under the claim that her portrayal by Catherine Zeta-Jones has damaged her professional reputation for integrity, honesty, generosity, self-sacrifice, and dignity. Havilland and her lawyers state that no attempt was made by FX to obtain the rights to her likeness, portrayal, or name in the product, and charges FX with infringement of the right of publicity, invasion of privacy and unjust enrichment. Due to her advanced age, Havilland's lawyers are pushing for a speedy trial.

Olivia de Havilland's suit continues on saying that the interviews given by Catherine Zeta-Jones portraying her were false and never given by her. Havilland's lawyers also point to a specific scene in Feud in which the character Havilland makes a remark about Frank Sinatra drinking all the alcohol available in the backstage lounge. They claim that the scene portrayed her in a false, hurtful, and damaging light. FX and 20th Century Fox have not commented on Olivia de Havilland's claims or anything regarding the allegations.

While primarily known as a two-time Oscar award winning actress, Olivia de Havilland is also famous in Hollywood for winning a landmark court case in the late 1930's that actors continue to utilize to this day. Known informally as de Havilland's law, the case successfully freed actors from the grasp of odd calendar stipulations in performance contracts, and allowed them to seek other projects and work without fear of the studio taking them down. Most recently, the law was employed by Karl Urban to seek out other opportunities prior to Star Trek: Beyond when he felt his character role was being marginalized. Ultimately, Urban decided to stay, but he got what he wanted thanks to de Havilland's law allowing him to search out other roles and putting the pressure on the Star Trek team to negotiate.

As for what will happen should this trial go to court, that remains to be seen. It's not immediately clear if an injunction on Feud would only affect Season 1 of the series or if Season 2 of filming (which follows a completely new set of people) could be affected as well. If Season 2 gets halted, it's possible FX could look to resolve the issue sooner than later so that it can get one of its programs back on the rails as soon as possible.

Feud is currently prepping for Season 2 which is set to air sometime in 2018. We'll keep an ear to the ground should anything change due to this lawsuit, but until then those interested in good television should visit our summer premiere guide to find a lot of great shows.

These days, even booking a small part in a huge superhero movie usually leads to some steady work, and brand recognition. One day you're a side character in a Marvel movie, the next you're leading your own TV show, with two spin-offs to show for it. However, it wasn't always this way, as some big stars landed some small roles back in the wilderness days of comic book films, and then saw them evaporate. Hell, there are even some known names who landed major roles in the past couple of years. Unfortunately, those folks happened to pick the wrong movie to make their four-panel debut, and those roles got buried.

Well today's the day we revisit the hits and misses, in order to remind you that these 15 stars once had roles in some familiar comic franchises. Some you may remember, others you may forget, but all deserve a spot of notoriety on this list!

Ellen Pompeo -- Daredevil

While Grey's Anatomy would eventually see Ellen Pompeo falling for heartthrob of movies and TV, Patrick Dempsey, her role in Fox's Daredevil saw her set-up with a ladies' man of a different caliber. Playing Karen Page to Ben Affleck's Matt Murdock, the would-be love interest may have had a shot at a tender moment with Affleck on screen in a possible sequel. But with the disastrous reception, and the film's focus on the romance between Murdock and Jennifer Garner's assassin Elektra Natchios, it just wasn't meant to be.

Joe Manganiello -- Spider-Man

We can almost guarantee you're going to need to take a breath before reading this next entry, as we were quite surprised when we realized it ourselves. Joe Manganiello, better known as a hunky werewolf from HBO's True Blood or as a hunky stripper in the Magic Mike franchise, was actually in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man. Even better still, he played the role of Flash Thompson: bully to Peter Parker, and eventual laughing stock at the hands of Peter's newly developed powers during the first film's early hallway brawl. Something tells us that a modern rematch would go just a little bit differently.

Patton Oswalt -- Blade: Trinity

Before landing a plum role on Marvel's Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D., Patton Oswalt had only one other comic book adaptation credit to his name. Unfortunately for him, it was as Hedges, the vampire hunter / short-lived associate of Ryan Reynolds' Nightstalkers in Blade: Trinity. Though Oswalt's misfortune of being cast in such a lackluster film did come with a hell of a silver lining, as he's periodically shared stories about how Wesley Snipes was so into character that he'd refer to himself as Blade. Not to mention, he also shared the fact that Snipes was blazed pretty much all of the time, giving a plausible explanation to why such an anticipated sequel fell flat on its face.

Elizabeth Banks -- Spider-Man

Let it be said that Sam Raimi has an eye for talent, as he not only discovered Joe Manganiello for a role in his Spider-Man trilogy, but he also found Elizabeth Banks to be the perfect choice for The Daily Bugle's famed administrative assistant, Betty Brant. One of the few romantic foils for Peter Parker in the comics, Banks' Brant was used more as a snarky presence to bounce off of J.K. Simmons' J. Jonah Jameson; though the two did share a bit of a moment in Spider-Man 3. Of course, that was just the Symbiote talking, and since Spider-Man 4 never happened, we never did get to see any sort of fallout from this temporary moment between the two.

Angela Bassett -- Green Lantern

One of the best decisions that the folks behind the 2011 adaptation of Green Lantern could have made, and heavens knows those were far and few between, was the casting of Angela Bassett as Amanda Waller. Should that film have succeeded, we'd more than likely see her not only tell off Batman in the future Justice League films that would have spun off from this film's hypothetical success, but we would have seen her ordering around the Suicide Squad, should that film have also sprung forth from that same scenario. Alas, Green Lantern tanked, and it's Viola Davis' turn to give the DC Universe hell. Still, Bassett's Waller is a beautiful "what if?" we can't seem to shake.

Norman Reedus - Blade II

Before he was cross-bowing zombies and playing The Walking Dead's _Daryl Dixon, Norman Reedus was hunting an entirely different set of beasts altogether: vampires. Guillermo del Toro cast the then unknown actor as Scud: the weapons maker / _Powerpuff Girls fan who would later reveal himself as a familiar for the vampire royal family. It's a shame he had to eventually die an explosive death, but at the very least it lead to a relationship that would have put Norman Reedus in Guillermo del Toro's Silent Hills, which unfortunately was cancelled before it got very far. Still, this was one of those roles that paved the way to Reedus becoming the basic cable badass that he's now primarily known for, and it's made all the difference.

Tim Robbins -- Green Lantern

You can be an Oscar winner/nominee, or just all around well respected actor, and the comic movie bug will eventually bite you. We're about to come up on several more entries of this caliber, starting with Tim Robbins role as Senator Robert Hammond, father to Peter Sarsgaard's villainous Hector, in Green Lantern. While his performance wasn't given the most screen time, he did he best that he could with what material he was given. Much like Angela Bassett before him, Robbins is one of those actors we kind of wish we could have seen in the current DC Universe, as his Senator Hammond would have made a great ally for Holly Hunter's Senator June Finch in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Martin Sheen -- Spawn

Another well respected actor who landed a big part in a comic book film is Martin Sheen, who managed to snag the role of the lead baddie in 1997's mixed-reception classic Spawn. But unlike some of the other luminaries we've got on this list, Sheen's performance as Jason Wynn isn't nearly as redeemable, though we'd like to think that's no one's fault but the writers. Playing a covert ops agent / arms dealer hybrid, Sheen's Jason Wynn was on a strict diet of only the tastiest scenery, and he ate as much as he could chew. Is it a fun performance? We could argue that it was indeed. But is it anywhere near the caliber that Martin Sheen usually delivers to his work? Indeed, it is not.

Jon Cryer -- Superman IV: The Quest For Peace

Before he made a career as the cosmic punching bag Charlie Sheen and Ashton Kutcher took pity on over 12 seasons of Two And A Half Men, Jon Cryer was an outside member of the 1980's society known as "the Brat Pack." That association not only saw him star in the John Hughes movie Pretty In Pink, it also found him taking on a role in the then red-hot Superman franchise. But as any good franchise fan will tell you, the end can come at any moment, turning a sure thing into a dud. Cryer, sadly, was a part of one of the most infamous duds ever, playing the role of Lenny Luthor -- Lex's dim-witted nephew -- in Superman IV: The Quest For Peace. All we have to say about this rather interesting choice is that Lenny's fashion sense is about as ill advised as the rest of the film's missteps, and Cryer obviously bounced back after such a dismal showing.

Christopher Lee -- Captain America 2: Death Too Soon

Even an actor like Christopher Lee can manage to find himself in a film that's incredibly below his talents. Yet being pigeon-holed as a B-movie star in the 1970s lead to his participation in some rather low-quality fare, one such film being Captain America 2: Death Too Soon. But just as he did with every role he'd ever taken, Lee played the role of General Miguel with the same intensity and respect that he gave even his most top-tier resume entries. It may not be a memorable performance, but at the very least it's further proof that Lee could elevate any material he chose to become a part of.

Drew Barrymore -- Batman Forever

When Joel Schumacher took over the Batman franchise, the public should have seen the signs that the series was about to go to a bright, neon-colored hell. Though, to be fair, Batman Forever was nowhere near the abomination that Batman and Robin would become. Still, the third film in the series and the only entry with Val Kilmer playing the Caped Crusader and his alter-ego cast some interesting actors in supporting roles. One such actor, Drew Barrymore, was cast as Sugar -- one of Two Face's two girlfriends, who would cater to his every need. You probably didn't remember her, as she wasn't really given much to do, but trust us -- she's in there for a couple key scenes with Tommy Lee-Jones and Jim Carrey.

Kerry Washington -- Fantastic Four

Kerry Washington is best known for being a Scandal maker on ABC's TGIT line-up. But about a decade before she was raising hell in D.C., Washington was playing the role of Alicia in Fox's Fantastic Four duology. A blind artist who inhabits the world of the first super family in Marvel history, Alicia eventually became the love interest of Ben Grimm, after his transformation into The Thing had left him abandoned by his previous fiancé. Kerry Washington finds herself as only the third alum on this list that was cast in a role that allowed them to appear in a sequel, as her character was also seen in Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer.

Ian McKellen -- The Shadow

Some comic book movies don't deserve the pall of anonymity that they've accrued over the years since their release. Russell Mulcahy's The Shadow is definitely one of those films, as it stands with The Rocketeer and Dick Tracy as a retro-themed throwback that got buried at the box-office in the 1990's. While the film boasted Alec Baldwin at the top of his game playing Lamont Cranston / The Shadow, the film also managed to snag Ian McKellen as the atomic scientist / father to Cranston's love interest, Dr. Reinhardt Lane. Considering how early in the days of comic book movies The Shadow was, McKellen's involvement is a keen reminder of how the well-respected, classically trained actor has always had a spot in the geek pantheon with his name on it.

Catherine Zeta-Jones -- The Phantom

Right before she took her breakout role in Martin Campbell's The Mask Of Zorro, Catherine Zeta-Jones would jump on-board another pulpy project, as she was cast in the role of Sala in The Phantom. Another comic book movie that was made before the genre took off, Zeta-Jones was the adversary (and eventual ally) of Billy Zane's "ghost who walks." Interestingly enough, the obscurity of this role didn't seem to stop her from being linked to the proposed sequel that would come to prominence in 2008. But just as quickly as that franchise's return was announced, it was dashed in favor of a now defunct reboot. Still, it just goes to show that if you've lined up a franchise with Billy Zane in the lead, you'll probably want to work with him again, given the chance.

Kevin Smith -- Daredevil

Show us a bigger comic fan in Hollywood than Kevin Smith, and we'll show you either a liar. Smith has not only made his love for all things inked and traced well known, he's taken on some roles in comic properties just for the hell of it. The most obscure of those roles is, of course, as a coroner named "Jack Kirby" in Fox's Daredevil. With his appearance being nothing more than a cameo, Smith takes his place next to Stan Lee and Frank Miller as a comic writer who's made an appearance in the very comic that he's written for. Also, as a slight side-bar, we may never have had a Daredevil starring Ben Affleck if it wasn't for Smith convincing him to take the role, so take that as you may.

In addition to thanking his estranged wife during his acceptance speech last night, Michael Douglas also gave a shoutout to his son Cameron who he’s hoping to see soon. If Twitter and the Emmy party I was at are any indication, the reference confused many viewers who didn’t know whether he was referencing a child custody battle or trying to make peace with a son he drifted away from. Well, it turns out the answer is extremely complicated and sad.

For much of the thirty-four-year-old’s life, Cameron has struggled with addiction. He was arrested for drug-related offenses on three separate occasions, the last of which got him sentenced to five years in jail for possession and intent to distribute. Unfortunately, since his sentencing, he’s reportedly failed two separate drug tests, one of which added an additional 4 ½ years to his sentence and one of which got him sent to solitary confinement and banned from having visitors.

According to TMZ, Cameron’s time in solitary confinement recently came to an end, but the Cumberland Federal Prison in Maryland still isn’t allowing him to take any visitors, much to the chagrin of Michael and his ex-wife Diandra De Morrell Douglas. The two parents, who haven’t always gotten along, are both working to try and get some form of visitation or at least a date when that might be acceptable, but thus far, they haven’t been told when the ordeal might be over.

Michael wasn’t exactly displeased when Cameron was originally sent to prison. At the time, he felt it was a chance for his son to get clean and completely start over upon release, but with all these failed drug tests, the sentence has turned into a significant portion of his life. Hopefully, he can see the error of his ways and emerge whenever he gets out as a better, healthier human being. After all, I think everyone in the Douglas family could use a little happiness right now.

Michael Douglas may have showed up at the Emmy Awards last night with a smile on his face, but more importantly for celeb gossip aficionados, he showed up without his wife Catherine Zeta-Jones. The two have been having serious marital problems for months and even confirmed a separation a few weeks ago. At the time, they both indicated they still wanted to work on the marriage, and if his speech was any indication, he certainly means it.

While accepting the award for Best Actor in a Miniseries for his brilliant work in Behind The Candelabra, Douglas made several amusing innuendos, vehemently thanked his collaborative partner Matt Damon and finally touched on each of his family members including the estranged spouse, who he referred to as “my wife, Catherine”. On the surface, it might not seem like a very big deal, but it’s actually a very important symbol.

Following a separation, there are only two different things an ex-ish couple can do. They can either work on their relationship, or they can let bitterness push them toward divorce court. By making a point to thank Catherine during the speech, he’s at least letting her know he’s still in this. He still wants to work it out and still considers the two of them together. We have no way of knowing whether the small efforts like that will lead to a meaningful reconciliation, but at least it’s on the table.

Over the past few years, Douglas and Zeta-Jones have gone through quite a bit. In addition to working on their acting careers and raising their lovely children, he’s battled cancer, and she’s battled bipolar disorder. No doubt those concerns put a tremendous strain on the marriage and were key factors in pushing them apart, but with enough love in their hearts and efforts in their bellies, they still should be able to overcome the obstacles in their path.

It’s been thirteen years since Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones walked down the aisle in a lavish ceremony at the Plaza Hotel in Manhattan. During that time, they’ve had two children, cranked out a lot of hit movies and undergone some traumatizing battles with physical and mental illness. Sadly, it seems those battles have recently done a number on their marriage, and the two Hollywood stars have reportedly decided to take a break from each other.

According to People, she’s currently at the couple’s formerly shared home in New York, and he’s currently on their yacht in Sardinia. Since May, they’ve alternated vacations and missed each other’s red carpet premieres. They also apparently haven’t been photographed together at all in that timeframe, which is perhaps the worst sign of all.

Neither Michael nor Catherine has spoken out about what’s really going on. Their publicists have stayed mum too. As such, there’s no way to confirm these two have actually wandered in different directions, but given the emotionally charged last few years these two have had, it’s not completely unthinkable. Back in 2010, he was diagnosed with cancer, and more recently, she has battled bipolar disorder.

Fortunately, whether they’re together or not, both Catherine and Michael seem to be on the mend. Simply reaching out and getting help for a mental illness is a gigantic step toward getting it under control, and Michael is back to acting. If they’re going to take some time apart, it’s very important both parties sort out their individual lives as best as possible, and they certainly seem to be doing that. Plus, there’s no reason why marriage breaks always have to end in divorce. In fact, sometimes they don’t. We might collectively think of them as kisses of death, but a minority of couples actually do use that time apart to figure out they can’t live without one another.

At sixty-eight and forty-three, their marriage has attracted a ton of headlines over the past decade plus for featuring a twenty-five year age gap. It’s understandable why people would be so obsessed with talking about that, but often lost in the shuffle is just how well this marriage has worked during the better times. The pair have two lovely children named Dylan and Carys, and they’ve been towers of support for one another at various points.

Pop Blend’s sincerest thoughts go out to the couple’s children during this sad and lonely time. Here’s to hoping mom and dad can work out all of their issues or barring that, at least figure out a way to be as friendly and amiable about any future split as possible. The kids certainly deserve as much.

"What happens in the Kremlin stays in the Kremlin."

Really , the only thing surprising about that joke is that it hasn't somehow been made before-- it's been nearly 25 years since the Cold War ended, and yet there's still nothing more fun than putting some red-blooded American spies up against the chilly Russkies. Bruce Willis actually just finished mopping up the remains of the Soviet era in A Good Day to Die Hard, and now he's back behind what remains of the Iron Curtain in the new trailer for Red 2, which premiered at Yahoo!

Red 2 at least has a lot more promise than the last Die Hard film, reuniting the bizarre and wonderful cast of John Malkovich, Helen Mirren, Mary Louise Parker and Willis, and adding Anthony Hopkins, Catherine Zeta-Jones and David Thewlis to the madness. I did my best to make sense of the plot of Red 2 based on this trailer, but let's be honest, it does't really matter. Bruce Willis is dragged out of retirement by John Malkovich bombarding him at a Costco. Helen Mirren has been assigned to kill him. Byung Hun Lee gets involved. Catherine Zeta-Jones shows up to make out with Bruce Willis. And of course, a lot of things explode.

Though the original Red was a surprise hit, grossing nearly $200 million overseas on a $58 million budget and an inauspicious mid-October release date, the sequel is being positioned as a summer blockbuster, with a major July 19 release window. Director Dean Parisot has been brought in for the sequel, and his work behind Galaxy Quest has a lot of people hoping he can nail a similarly wry comic tone. Does this trailer give you hope? The Academy Awards usually offers a few musical numbers. More often than not, they wind up being awkward wastes of time that fall flat, which is probably why Oscar producers decided to go in a completely different direction this year. Instead of making up their own music to reference the popular movies of the year, the ceremony invited many members of the Les Mis cast, Jennifer Hudson from Dreamgirls and Catherine Zeta-Jones from Chicago to perform numbers from their extremely successful movies.

If Twitter is any indication, the choice was a brilliant one. Zeta-Jones sang “All That Jazz” on top of a piano to raucous applause. Hudson belted out “And I’m Telling You I’m Not Going” to a standing ovation from the crowd, all of the major Les Mis plays hit the stage for an inventive and fun medley that allowed each to shine. Everything was sung live, and everything was even more beautiful than it was probably conceived.

Not surprisingly, the collective dominance has led to many arguments about which performance was the best. Unlike the other acts, Zeta-Jones’ had really intricate choreography. She moved around quite a bit, which makes singing live substantially harder. Hudson did nothing but walk out on the stage, but her pitch was simply incredible. Not a single note was out of place. And the people from Les Mis? Well, they were able to incorporate damn near everyone from the movie and still found a way for each to shine.

The Oscar ceremony has always had a fondness for musicals, even more so than the awards themselves. Last year there wasn't a single musical nominated for Best Picture, but Billy Crystal was still back as host with his traditional musical opening number, and we can almost certainly expect the same from host Seth MacFarlane this year. But with both a Best Picture nomination for Les Miserables and the 10th anniversary of Chicago's Best Picture win to celebrate, there are even more musicals than usual at this years ceremony-- and now word of a whole new tribute to honor them.

We had learned previously that the Chicago cast would reunite onstage at Sunday's awards, but now Deadline confirms that Catherine Zeta-Jones will be reprising her Oscar-winning role as Velma Kelly, and fellow Best Supporting Actress statue winner Jennifer Hudson will reprise her showstopper "And I Am Telling You" song from Dreamgirls. They'll be joined onstage for full-fledged musicals tribute by seven cast members from Les Miserables, including nominees Hugh Jackman and Anne Hathaway plus Russell Crowe, Eddie Redmayne, Helena Bonham Carter, Samantha Barks and Aaron Tveit. Who wants to bet they find a way to work Hathaway's Fantine into "One Day More" and blow the roof off the place?

In the extended interview with Deadline, Oscars producers Neil Meron and Craig Zadan talk about the theme of this year's show-- "music of the movies"-- and how MacFarlane as host will be a throwback to the days of Bob Hope and Johnny Carson. The combination of musical numbers and Bob Hope vibe feels like strong evidence that this year's Oscars won't be futilely trying to appeal to younger viewers, and Zadan and Meron are prepared to simply embrace the old-fashioned showmanship that's always produced the best shows. Is it possible that, two years after the Franco-Hathaway disaster and a year after Billy Crystal's last-minute substitution, we'll finally have an Oscars show that feels confident and fun?

The way we see it, Gerard Butler has a coin that he flips when it’s time to choose a role. If it lands on one side, he does a bloody action thriller along the lines of 300, RocknRolla, Gamer or Law Abiding Citizens. But if the coin lands on the other side, he does a predictable romantic-comedy along the lines of The Ugly Truth, P.S. I Love You or the upcoming Playing for Keeps, which co-stars Jessica Biel and just dropped its first official trailer:

First, let’s focus on the reasons Keeps might be worth watching. Butler’s not a terrible actor. He just makes terrible choices when it comes to certain roles. But Keeps director Gabriele Muccino made the heartfelt tearjerker The Pursuit of Happyness, so it’s possible that this picture taps into a similar up-by-your-bootstraps mentality and becomes the feel-good movie of the holiday season. (It comes out in December.)

Then again, did you see that trailer? Oy. A former soccer star watching his beautiful ex-wife (Biel) move on? ESPN coincidentally looking for an expert soccer commentator … and knowing the former sportscaster (Catherine Zeta-Jones) who might be able to help Butler get the gig? Yeesh. Too early to wave the white flag?

Look, there’s definitely an audience out there for pre-packaged happiness that seems to be offered up by the likes of Playing for Keeps. And they’ll likely devour this movie with a spoon. But the competition in December includes Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit, Tom Hooper’s Les Miserables, Judd Apatow’s This is 40 and Kathryn Bigelow’s Zero Dark Thirty. Maybe if all of the above were sold out, we’d give Keeps a spin … but even that’s not a guarantee.

When Steven Soderbergh's Traffic came out in 2000, Catherine Zeta-Jones was at the top of her game. She was one of the biggest actresses in Hollywood and only two years away from her first Oscar. In the years since, however, Zeta-Jones hasn't been around nearly as much. She hasn't appeared in a feature film since 2009's The Rebound, but now she's starting to make her comeback. Stephen Frears' Lay The Favorite is currently playing at the Sundance Film Festival, Adam Shankman's Rock of Ages comes out in a few months, and Gabriele Muccino's Playing The Field will be arriving in December. Now, however, she's cemented her comeback: she's working with Soderbergh again.

According to Deadline, Zeta-Jones has signed on to star in The Side Effects. A thriller written by Scott Z. Burns (who also scripted Contagion and The Informant!), the thriller is also set to star Blake Lively, Jude Law and Channing Tatum. Of the group, only Lively has never been in a Soderbergh movie before. The film is being financed by Annapurna Pictures and will start shooting in New York in April. The film is about a young woman (Lively) who becomes hooked on prescription drugs because of her anxiety related to the release of her husband (Tatum) from prison. Zeta-Jones will play Dr. Erica Siebert, but it's unclear how she fits into the plot.

This is going to be a big year for Catherine Zeta-Jones. She's been gone for so long it will be interesting to see if she can still bring it. Considering she has that Academy Award sitting on her mantle, I think we can be pretty confident that she can.

In the modern noir Broken City, Mark Wahlberg plays a former police officer turned private investigator who finds himself up to his neck in scandal while tailing the mayor’s wife because she’s suspected of infidelity. As you might have guessed, it gets much worse than that.

Russell Crowe and Catherine Zeta-Jones are on board for Broken City, with the former playing the government official who hires Wahlberg’s character. Now Variety reports that Alona Tal and Natalie Martinez have signed on to play two female leads in the thriller that will be directed by Allen Hughes (From Hell). Tal has been tapped to play Wahlberg's assistant in the film, while Martinez in on board as the Departed star’s girlfriend. Lucky her.

Of the two, Martinez has some police-procedural experience, having just wrapped work on the cop drama End of Watch with Jake Gyllenhaal, Michael Pena and Anna Kendrick. As for Tal, she recently signed on to the FX pilot Powers. Broken City sounds like it has potential. I’m anxious to see Wahlberg opposite Crowe in a battle of glares. And though Marky Mark has stocked his resume with action thrillers over the years (his latest, Contraband, hits theaters in January), he rarely mails in his performances and even went out of his way to poke fun at fellow action star Tom Cruise for “performing” his own stunts. Always entertaining.

Broken City, as of now, opens on Jan. 18, 2013.

Reports of Alec Baldwin’s departure from Adam Shankman’s Rock of Ages adaptation were premature … even though they sort of started from Baldwin’s camp in the first place.

Earlier in the week, we reported that Baldwin was bowing out of Shankman’s big-screen musical, though no reason was given at the time. Baldwin was set to play club owner Dennis Dupree opposite Tom Cruise, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Russell Brand, Paul Giamatti, Malin Akerman and the rest of the Rock Of Ages cast.

But don’t count Baldwin out just yet. According to Deadline, Baldwin actually is going to do the movie, and is in Miami with the cast for the director’s full run-through. The report says Baldwin warned the production that an unspecified health issue might have kept him out of the production, and if they had an opportunity to replace them, they should consider it. But they didn’t, and so he’s still on board as Dupree.

Baldwin’s presence tends to make just about everything better (yes, I’m looking at you, It’s Complicated), so the news that he’s staying on board Rock, which expects to begin shooting on May 23, is welcome, indeed. We also hope that the unspecified health problem is minor and that Baldwin makes a swift recovery.

In an apparent effort to cram as many famous names as humanly possible into his Rock of Ages musical, Adam Shankman has added two new roles and filled them with Bryan Cranston and Catherine Zeta-Jones. We learned in late April that Zeta-Jones would be playing a villainous character, described as "the love child of Tipper Gore and Anita Bryant," who's on a crusade to ban rock and roll-- because, apparently, one Footloose remake in a single year just isn't enough. Now Deadline is reporting that Bryan Cranston has also signed on, to play the husband of Zeta-Jones's character. Shankman actually tweeted further detail, that Cranston will in fact be playing the mayor of Los Angeles, home of the rock club where the musical is set.

Remember, this cast already includes Alec Baldwin, Russell Brand and Julianne Hough in central roles, with Tom Cruise, Mary J. Blige and Paul Giamatti also rounding out the cast. The lead role went to relative unknown Diego Boneta, but otherwise it's going to be a musical crammed with famous faces, a gambit that worked well for Shankman's previous musical Hairspray, at least. We'll see if audiences are as happy to have starpower mixed in with their 80s hair metal once the movie starts filming next month.

As for Cranston, he sang reasonably well in his monologue during an SNL hosting gig last fall, but this will be his first big movie musical. Then again, the role will probably be small enough that he won't have to do a ton of belting anyway.

For a while, back in August of last year, it looked like we might be getting an adaptation of Tom Perrotta's The Abstinence Teacher, another novel from the Little Children author about sexuality and repression in the American suburbs. That adaptation, which was rumored to have Sandra Bullock and Steve Carell interested at one point, doesn't seem to be going anywhere at the moment, which is leaving from for Playing the Field to take its place.

The comedy, starring Gerard Butler as a youth soccer coach getting romantically entangled with various women in his neighborhood, starts filming this week, and two more smitten women have been added to the cast. According to The LA Times Catherine Zeta-Jones and Judy Greer have each signed on to play neighborhood women who have the hots for Butler's character; they're competing against Uma Thurman, who is married to Dennis Quaid in the film, and Jessica Biel, who plays Butler's estranged wife. Thankfully Butler won't be asked to provide one of his characteristically terrible accents-- his character is a professional European soccer player who moves to the suburbs in order to be closer to his kids.

Gabriele Muccino will be looking to make up for his last film, the disastrous Seven Pounds, by directing this one, and he's at least managed to assemble an impressive cast to have faith in him. He's also brought in a pinch hitter-- sorry, wrong sports metaphor-- to help him out; the Times is hearing from sources close to the production that Stuart Blumberg, the Oscar-nominated co-writer of The Kids Are All Right, has been brought on board to tweak the script originally written by Rob Fox. Given that Kids had one of the better comedy screenplays in recent memory, Blumberg's participation would be another huge step forward for this movie. Keep this up, Muccino, and I may pretend I never lost those two hours to Seven Pounds after all.
