Conor McGregor's grand return to the UFC was arguably more hyped than the White House event that happened earlier in the 2026 TV schedule, but unfortunately, it ended in disappointment. After a fight stoppage seconds into the first round when it was apparent McGregor suffered a big injury, Daniel Cormier has serious questions about what's next for the MMA legend.

The former Heavyweight champion-turned-commentator wasted no time talking about McGregor's disappointing showing on his YouTube channel. While McGregor proved the critics wrong and returned to the UFC, there are serious questions about whether he should've ever stepped in the ring against Max Holloway in the first place. Despite the fighter's insistence that he injured his knee on an opening kick attempt, rumors persist that he was hurt ahead of the fight, but Cormier isn't talking about that. He's talking about what's next for the fighter, as well as the UFC, and I totally agree:

Cormier makes a great point. There's no denying Conor McGregor's wild antics appeal to a mainstream audience , and how there was no question at one point he was one of the most dominant fighters in the Feather and Lightweight division. Unfortunately, even legends in MMA end their career on their backs. And with Conor unable to last even a third of a full round in this latest bout, at what point is it time to move on?

Personally, I think the injury wasn't bad luck, and it's clear McGregor should start putting more of his efforts into seeking out new roles in Hollywood. It's a conversation combat sports fans will have in the coming weeks, as they'll make it clear in so many words just how interested they are in seeing Conor McGregor return to the octagon once he's recovered from his knee injury. If he's still a ratings grabber, the UFC will find him a fight, but if not, it may just be time to move on.

It's easier said than done, as the UFC has struggled to find any talent in its modern era as captivating or entertaining as McGregor. With its recent deal that makes fights easily available to those with a Paramount+ subscription, now might be the best time for the organization to invest in finding new stars.

Of course, one would think if it were that easy, Dana White and co. would've found that megastar in the years Conor McGregor hasn't been in the ring. Perhaps after this, they'll get more serious about their efforts, assuming the fans are largely over seeing fights with him. Who knows, maybe even he'll announce his retirement from MMA, though that doesn't feel likely.

There was no small amount of controversy regarding the Road House remake with Jake Gyllenhaal that came out last year. Director Doug Liman was upset the movie didn’t get a theatrical release, but regardless of whether or not that should have happened, the movie found an audience among those with a Prime Video subscription, to the point that a sequel already has the greenlight.

One person who certainly hopes to appear in the Road House sequel is Lukas Gage. He recently spoke to Variety about the new film, his thoughts on it and why he hopes to appear despite some reports that Conor McGregor beat him to death in the first movie.

While Road House 2 was announced several months ago, the one thing that’s clear from Lukas Gage’s recent comments is that he doesn’t know anything about the sequel. He certainly hopes to be in it though, and thinks that his return has a pretty decent chance, if only because he survived the first movie. Gage said…

Certainly, if Gage’s character had died, then his appearance in the sequel would be much more in doubt. Since the original film never got a sequel it’s difficult to guess where this movie might go with a follow-up. It could return to the location of the original and bring most everybody back, though it could just as easily see Gyllenhaal Dalton go to work somewhere new, leading to an otherwise entirely fresh cast.

Cage Clears Up Comments About Conor McGregor Beating Him Up

The major reason that it seems Lukas Gage might be looking forward to a potential Road House 2 is that he apparently loves roles that allow him to get physical. This is despite comments that he previously made on After Midnight where he indicated McGregor “might have fractured” his back. Gage now says…

Despite maybe getting a little beat up, Gage is ready for a Road House sequel. It’s unclear if Conor McGregor himself will also be back based on comments the former MMA star made when the sequel was announced. He stated that he might not be returning despite the fact that the first movie teased another showdown between his character and that of Gyllenhaal.

The bigger question may be if director Doug Liman will return for Road House 2. Considering the success of the first film, bringing the director back would normally be a no-brainer, but considering the way the director and studio clashed the first time around, that may not be possible.

If there's one thing the Paul brothers know how to do, it's how to draw interest in fights. While the world is still obsessed with Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson and the legitimacy of that fight, even Floyd Mayweather has forgotten his brother Logan was the first to do it. Paul has expressed interest and hyped a $250 million bout against Conor McGregor in India, but McGregor says it's Paul that's partly to blame for why the fight may actually never happen.

McGregor, in between photo opportunities with the Paul Brothers, spoke to The Schmo about the rumors of this India boxing event, which still has yet to officially be set in stone. While Logan Paul has continued to hype the event in interviews, the former UFC champion gave a more pessimistic update on it happening, noting that his employer isn't down for the idea:

It's not too surprising to hear the UFC wasn't keen on seeing Conor McGregor fight Logan Paul in a boxing match. To start, they're not in the boxing business, they're in the MMA business. It's also worth noting that McGregor would be at a supreme disadvantage in a bout against Paul, standing at only 5'8 and 155 pounds to Paul 6'2 181 pound frame. Jake Paul has exposed many UFC fighters like Ben Askren, Anderson Silva, and Tyrone Woodley when they're forced to rely solely on boxing rather than MMA skills. In short, the UFC likely has no interest in seeing another one of their former champions potentially lose to a Paul brother.

McGregor doesn't seem phased by the challenge, and I'm sure the massive amount of money both fighters stand to make for the bout helps. All of that said, he feels that the UFC and powers that be at TKO Holdings might've been swayed had Logan Paul been as vocal about advocating for the fight internally as he had. As one of the rising stars in the WWE and with his drink Prime one of the major advertisers of both brands, Paul might have some pull in the company. That said, McGregor says his opponent hasn't tried to make it happen:

Is Logan Paul ducking a fight with Conor McGregor? That could be the case, but it's also worth noting he has quite a few upcoming WWE events he may be a part of on the horizon. I would imagine he won't be able to commit to any fights until at least WrestleMania 41 is over, as it seems he's going to make an appearance in at least a few of the Premium Live Events scheduled in the months to come.

The strange part in this saga is that this all originally started as a feud between Jake Paul and Conor McGregor, with the fighter making a vow to take him on. Logan Paul even came to McGregor's defense at one point, saying it wasn't cool of his brother to take shots at McGregor's wife. At the time, he seemed to advocate against his brother taking on the former UFC champion, so I'm curious about what changed to the fact he's even considering a bout in India.

Conor McGregor has his doubts, but the big battle between him and Logan Paul remains in limbo for the time being. All we can do is wait and see if it is made official at some point, and given the litany of other impossible fights these two have made happen, I wouldn't rule it out yet.

It was another good night for Jake Paul. The influencer turned boxer delivered his latest KO, this time to journeyman MMA fighter Mike Perry in the sixth round, but not everyone watching at home was impressed by his victory. In fact, UFC star turned actor Conor McGregor, no stranger to boxing himself, hit up social media afterwards and absolutely unloaded on Paul. 

In an extended rant, McGregor called Paul out for his weight advantage, heavily implied he was taking performance enhancing drugs and criticized him for calling out Mike Tyson post-fight, given the legend’s age and recent major health problems. It’s pretty clear how McGregor feels about Paul, but why he felt the need to call him out so aggressively is still an open question. Some are, of course, saying he’s probably angling for his own fight down the road, but there’s also just a distinct chance he’s out here hating for the love of being a hater. McGregor has never been one to hold back his feelings on any issues, and Jake Paul is certainly someone who inspires a lot of feelings, even from those involved in the sport who don’t traditionally speak their minds as often as McGregor.

The main complaints about Paul are typically centered around his choice of opponents. Rather than taking on professional boxers, the influencer has typically taken on bigger name MMA fighters who aren’t as experienced with boxing. As a general rule, these fighters have also been older and many of them have given up a weight advantage. In this most recent fight, Mike Perry weighed in at 196 pounds and change, while Paul weighed in at exactly 200. That might not sound like a big difference, but Perry actually fought at 184 for a fight earlier this year and Paul was reportedly around 230 pounds when his fight with Tyson was cancelled. Not surprisingly, during the actual fight, Paul looked noticeably bigger than Perry.

As for McGregor, his career seems to be at a bit of a crossroads. He ventured into acting for a well-received turn in the Road House remake, but his return to the UFC Octagon was cancelled when he had to pull out of a fight due to an injury. Some fans think we’ll never see the popular Irishman square up again, but McGregor himself is convinced he’ll return sometime later this year once he heals up. 

A possible fight between McGregor and Paul would have its own huge size difference. McGregor typically fights at around 170 pounds, while Paul had to really cut weight to make the 200 pound cut-off for the Perry fight. Given the hypothetical match-up would sell an insane number of PPVs and fill a big arena, however, you can never totally take it off the table.

We’ll see. In the short-term, Paul seems very focused on fighting Mike Tyson. Their original bout was scheduled to be broadcast by Netflix and would have easily been the highest profile moment of Paul’s career, even if it wouldn’t have exactly helped with the allegations that he only fights people who are past their primes.

It’s been a wild few weeks for Conor McGregor and the UFC 303 pay-per-view he was originally scheduled to headline alongside veteran fighter Michael Chandler. The fight was on, then it was off, then it was maybe on again. Now it’s officially off, at least McGregor’s portion of it. UFC President Dana White revealed the larger event will go on as planned with Alex Pereira and Jirí Procházka now main eventing and McGregor and Chandler happening at some point in the future.

McGregor echoed those sentiments in his own statement he released yesterday. The legendary MMA star who recently played a key support in the Road House remake said he suffered an injury prior to the press conference but is “confident” he’ll be back. Many in the media have already started looking ahead at potential replacement dates with The Sun eyeing a possible fight in late Summer and prominent fighting journalist Ariel Helwani saying he’s hoping for late August/ early Fall. If you look at social media, however, fans are a whole lot less confident.

In fact, once the rumors of a possible cancellation started coming out, many fans were almost immediately pessimistic. After confirmation the fight was over, many took to social media to predict we’ll never see McGregor get in the ring again. Here’s a sample tweet with more than a thousand likes…

McGregor is about to turn thirty-six years old. We’ve, of course, seen a lot of older fighters step back in the ring after layoffs over the last several years, partly thanks to Jake Paul, but the majority of those fights were exhibitions and/ or were against other aging fighters. There are also still ongoing questions about whether Paul's fight against Mike Tyson will even happen. Getting back in the UFC Octagon in your mid-to-late 30s after an almost three year layoff is another animal entirely, especially given McGregor has been prone to detours a lot in his career.

At arguably the height of his popularity, McGregor decided to step away from the UFC and box Floyd Mayweather in a fight that drew more than five million pay-per-view buys, a truly astronomical figure. Then later, after breaking his tibia during a fight against Dustin Poirier, he decided to coach a season of The Ultimate Fighter and then play the lead henchman in Road House to mostly rave reviews. As such, it’s fair for fans to wonder how invested he is in returning to MMA, especially given he’s reportedly about to make $6M from an antitrust lawsuit. As such, fans are now more focused on tweeting jokes about his inactivity…

I’d love to see McGregor return to action again. When he was in his prime, he had a swagger about him that stood out, even amongst other professional fighters who try desperately to have a swagger. He’s one of the biggest stars the sport has ever produced and rightfully so, but he also should only come back if his heart is fully in it and his body can hold up, especially given there's plenty of other things fans are excited about seeing him do.

The 2024 movie schedule’s version of Road House is still rocking months after its release, and fans are getting a kick out of this action-packed remake of the Patrick Swayze classic with their Amazon Prime subscriptions. There have also been a lot of comparisons between the two films, as viewers work to spot moments that pay homage to the ‘80s flick. Now, one of the 2024 movie’s stars, Lukas Gage, has revealed the moment from the OG that he wished was in the project, and I agree with him.

There are tons of differences between the two versions of Road House, and as Gage told JoBlo they wanted this movie to be more of a reimaging than a remake. However, there was still one scene from the OG flick the actor who plays Billy the bar security boy wanted in the Jake Gyllenhaal and Conor McGregor-led movie, as he told the outlet:

In the original Road House, there’s a fight that features Patrick Swayze’s James Dalton in a brawl where he rips his hand across his adversary Jimmy’s throat before kicking him into the water. It’s an epic moment, and as Gage pointed out, it would have been fun to recreate that in their movie. 

However, there was one scene that was kind of close to it, as Gage and his co-star Daniela Melchior, who plays Ellie, went back and forth saying:

• Daniela Melchoir: We have the throat punch!
• Lukas Gage: We have the throat punch, but yeah.

There was indeed a throat punch, and it was epic. In the movie, Jake Gyllenhaal’s Dalton asks Billy to take care of a violent patron in the bar, and Gage throws a punch that hits the guy right in his throat. 

However, while there was that little instance and he would have loved to see the exact moment from the OG in this new movie, both actors made clear points that they didn’t want to compare the two projects while they were making it. 

This effort worked in their favor, because there are a lot of reasons why this year’s Road House is better than the original, and there are tons of new details in Doug Liman’s remake that are worth noting. Plus, Road House did crazy numbers on Amazon, proving that there was (and still is) major interest in the movie and the story of Jake Gyllenhaal's Dalton. 

Now, Road House is getting a sequel, which means they have more opportunities to tell the tales of Dalton and co. while paying homage to the world Patrick Swayze led in the ‘80s. Also, this upcoming movie gives the crew a chance to act on Gage’s request and get a good “throat-grabbing bit” into the project. I’m sure both the actor and fans of the OG would appreciate it. 

Since its launch on Prime Video on March 21, Road House has smashed streaming records, pulling in nearly 80 million viewers worldwide and firmly establishing itself as a heavyweight hit for Amazon. Directed by action maestro Doug Liman and starring the ever-intense Jake Gyllenhaal, the film serves up a high-octane reboot of one of the most iconic ‘80s movies, the 1989 classic action movie originally fronted by the late great Patrick Swayze. Among the star-studded cast of Road House is real-life UFC legend Conor McGregor, stepping into the role of Knox—Gyllenhaal's most formidable adversary in the movie. Road House 2 is officially a go, but fans will find themselves in a twist. Despite the sequel's green light, a social media post from the fighter may mean bad news for Conor fans.

Known for his dynamic and provocative style in the octagon, Conor's transition to the big screen in the Gyllenhaal-led remake has been enthusiastically received by fans. Given the positive response to his acting debut, it would be a significant loss for the franchise if the filmmakers didn't manage to bring him back for the sequel and give his villain a chance at revenge.

Hopefully, the Irish-born mixed martial artist's post doesn't suggest friction with his co-star, Jake Gyllenhaal. During a particularly intense late-night shoot, Gyllenhaal admitted the fighter kept trying to punch him and that he was even actually"clocked" by the Featherweight Champion in one scene. While the Jarhead star might understandably want to avoid a repeat of that incident, fans like myself are hoping it won't deter the fighter’s return for the sequel.

The 2024 movie schedule release has generated considerable excitement, particularly because of the award-winning MMA performer’s role in his first action role. In the CinemaBlend review of the movie, Eric Eisenberg described the film as "super violent and super funny," Sean O’Connell noted that Conor not only steals the show but is the main reason to watch the movie. This acclaim highlights McGregor's standout performance, underscoring his impact and the anticipation for his potential involvement in a follow-up film.

Although Conor McGregor has been known as one of the world’s most famous mixed martial artists for many years, now he can also officially consider himself an actor. The Road House remake premiered to Amazon Prime Video subscribers on the 2024 movies schedule in March, and it saw McGregor playing Knox, the sinister muscle brought in to fight Jake Gyllenhaal’s Elwood Dalton. So why did McGregor decide to make his acting debut in Road House? As it turns out, some harsh comments from Meryl Streep convinced him to take the leap.

What Meryl Streep Said About Mixed Martial Arts

Back in 2017 (the same year she starred in The Post), Meryl Streep was given the Cecil B. DeMille Award at the Golden Globes, and during her acceptance speech, she had some choice words about what would happen if “outsiders and foreigners” were forced to leave the United States. In her words:

Although her statement was met with applause from the audience, Conor McGregor and other athletes from the UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) took issue with her negative perspective on mixed martial arts. Over half a decade later, McGregor thought back on what Streep said, and it motivated him to come aboard Road House.

How Conor McGregor Responded To Her Comments

In an interview with THR, MeGregor explained that there’s more to the athletic fighting he does than just merely throwing punches and kicks. Contrary to what Streep said, there is an art form to it, and he wanted to use Road House as a platform to show how much skill it takes. He explained:

If you think about it, there’s an added layer of difficulty with shooting fight scenes in movies like Road House, because it’s not as though Conor McGregor and Jake Gyllenhaal were actually beating each other up. Their moves are obviously choreographed, but it all has to look convincing enough so the fighting doesn’t come across as fake when viewers are watching the action unfold. For Road House specifically, some of this work involved the “four pass method” that the stunt coordinator created. That said, there were times McGregor had to be reminded not to punch Gyllenhaal in the face, and once the the latter really got “clocked” by the former.

Working on Road House proved to be wise decision on Conor McGregor’s part, as many critics praised his performance as Knox (although Jake Gyllenhaal’s Dalton performance shouldn’t be overlooked). While Road House’s ending certainly could pave the way for us to see more from either character, there are certainly a number of other projects that McGregor could tackle next. If/when it’s announced he’ll act in another movie or on TV, we’ll let you know.

Amazon’s Road House remake may have shown Jake Gyllenhaal slapping dudes and kicking ass as a bouncer, but his mighty opponent in the film, Conor McGregor, threw some very realistic blows as his character Knox. Their fight scenes together were such a highlight of the movie that you’d think what you watched was real. Well, there’s a reason for the realistic fighting sequences, as the Irish mixed martial artist explained the “four pass method” to make beating up his co-star look so natural.

One of the little things that made the Road House remake so entertaining was the way the fight sequences were filmed. The cameras panning around the brawlers with these long-cut takes were like something you’d see in a video game. But, of course, the fight scenes that featured Jake Gyllenhaal’s Dalton and Conor McGregor’s Knox were easy to get your eyes glued to because of how intense and real they looked. So what’s the secret to that? The former UFC champ opened up to Jake Hamilton about a little film sequence technique called the “four pass method.”

It's hard to believe these quick choreographed movements blended together to create an unbelievable arrangement. You can tell by Conor McGregor’s enthusiasm that he had a lot of fun filming this action film. He stole every scene he was in from his psychotic enforcer character Knox’s naked introduction to the final blowout between him and Dalton.

McGregor played the villainous role shamelessly with no limits to what he could do. That said, the Irish champ’s fighter instincts kept kicking in with constant reminders not to actually punch Jake Gyllenhaal in the face. It's almost like you forget you’re not in the ring, but hey, it proves you can’t always take the fighter out of a fighter.

This “four pass method” was almost featured in another big-budget flick. According to Total Film, stunt coordinator Garrett Warren was about to use this realistic fighting technique in James Cameron’s Avatar, but because the sci-fi blockbuster was filmed in a CGI landscape, it was decided that the technique wasn’t needed. So when Road House’s director Doug Liman told Warren, “I want to do something that’s never been done before,” in came the introduction of the “four pass method.”

Even though the “four pass method” helped to make the fight sequences look natural, it didn’t mean all of the grueling action in Road House wasn’t without a few mishaps. Like Conor McGregor previously mentioned, he really did “clock” Jake Gyllenhaal at one point for not judging the distance of his blow.

It looks like that’s the downside to doing choreographed scenes with real fighters is having to train them not to actually hit their scene partner for a movie. Plus, the Nightcrawler actor developed a staph infection after doing sequences in glass and on dirty floors. Oh, the things actors are willing to put themselves through for their craft.

Now we know that Jake Gyllenhaal and Conor McGregor’s head-to-head combat scenes looked so realistic thanks to the “four pass method” technique. Maybe Road House won’t be the only action flick making great use of this method in future films. It’s been a few weeks since P. Diddy made headlines after his home was raided and he was detained in a Miami airport. News broke later the rapper was under investigation for sex trafficking, and in the time since some of his associates have been implicated and questioned. Meanwhile, as an investigation continues, some stories about the rapper and other celebrities have started running around the internet, including a time UFC fighter –and now actor in his own right – Conor McGregor called Sean Combs an “ass.”

McGregor has residences in Ireland and often trains in Reykjavík, but he’s a man with a pretty global existence, and there was a period of time he was living and training in Las Angeles. There, he met some famous celebrities, including Arnold Schwarzeneger, whom he had a favorable opinion of, and Diddy, whom he he didn’t. Speaking on the Irish version of Late Late Show a few years back, McGregor spoke about meeting the rapper, and it does not sound like a super pleasant experience. 

Conor McGregor is not a person who is known for pulling punches. The Road House star went on to explain that he just thought it would be a quick, fun, networking meet-and-greet but Diddy didn’t seem to see things the same way. He ultimately revealed the two did connect at a college game, but that it didn’t go how he anticipated it might. 

Following the raid that happened exactly a month ago, others who were around Diddy throughout the tenure of his long career have spoken out. One of his backup dancers, Tanika Ray, said it was a well-known fact that young women who worked for him should keep their “space,” also noting that nothing about what has been happening with Diddy “is surprising.”

Meanwhile, the rapper is currently facing several civil lawsuits featuring other accusations, including sex trafficking, abuse, and rape. The most recent of these is a February 2024 lawsuit from producer Rodney “Lil Rod” Jones that noted his former boss had hosted sex trafficking parties and he’d been asked to engage in activities he did not want to participate in.  

For his part, Sean Combs has denied these accusations, and while serious, the claims have taken on a life of their own at WWE events and more.The rapper has continued to share pictures of his daughter and more on his Instagram and move forward despite the myriad suits still going on behind the scenes.  

Mike Tyson has faced off with some of the most formidable fighters in the history of boxing throughout his storied career. Lennox Lewis, Evander Holyfield and Donovan Ruddock are just a few of the notable combatants “Iron Mike” has gone toe to toe with in the ring. Now, even at 57 years old, Tyson continues to take on fellow competitors here and there. And he’s currently set to take on one of his most eccentric challengers, as Tyson is fighting Jake Paul this coming summer. As the legend prepares for what could be a very engaging bout, fellow fighter Conor McGregor is opening up about how Tyson has impacted his view on retirement. 

35-year-old Conor McGregor has been in the business for a little while himself, as he made his amateur mixed martial arts debut when he was 18. Since then, he’s won multiple UFC Championship titles and is widely considered a trailblazer within the sport. Considering what he’s accomplished and his growing interest in non-fighting ventures, one might be tempted to think that he’s eyeing retirement. However, that doesn’t exactly seem to be the case. While speaking with TNT Sports, he disputed the notion that he’ll stop fighting professionally one day and used Mike Tyson to illustrate his point: 

In other words, “The Notorious” isn’t so much thinking about hanging it up but shifting up his competition and approach to the sport as he gets older. That’s honestly a smart way of looking at it. Of course, in many cases, some athletes get to the point at which they’re just not in a physical state at which they can compete in the ring. But, if one can, there are certainly viable ways for them to continue competing. The UFC Featherweight and Lightweight Champion spoke to that point during his interview, which was shared to YouTube: 

I can’t help but wonder if Mike Tyson feels the same way in that regard. If anything though, his career as a fighter isn’t over just yet. Based on the tidbits he’s shared thus far, Tyson has been training hard for his fight with Jake Paul, who’s been trolling him since the bout was announced. While fans on social media seem eager to check out the fight, others aren’t so high on it. UFC boss Dana White isn’t thrilled over the prospect of Tyson taking on Paul, who is 31, but can see the appeal. Also, boxer KSI thinks this is a “lose-lose” for both men, as Tyson could get hurt and, if Paul wins, he’ll be notorious for being the man who knocked out an older man.

Still, Conor McGregor’s comments indicate that the Hangover alum has at least one high-profile name in his corner. I’m personally curious as to how McGregor continues to navigate his own career not only because of his age but because of his other activities. Not only is he a businessman, but he may also be on track to becoming a movie star thanks to his scene-stealing work in the Road House remake (which is streamable with a Prime Video subscription). Whatever happens though, hopefully, the path he walks down is one that he prefers.

Based on his comments, it’s likely that he’ll be tuning in like so many fans when Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson happens on July 20. Anyone looking to check it out will want to grab a Netflix subscription.

I will admit, I wasn’t really all that hyped about Doug Liman’s Road House remake before the movie debuted on Prime Video in March. But after reading what my colleague, Eric Eisenberg, had to say about the film in his four-star review, as well as other critical responses to the Jake Gyllenhaal action movie, I decided to give it a proper shot. Guess what? I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS MOVIE!

This felt like a throwback to the fun action flicks of my childhood, and I just couldn’t get enough of it. From Conor McGregor’s off-the-wall performance to random bits of dialogue my coworkers and I have been quoting to straight-up bonkers fight sequences, I was in hog heaven.

I Haven't Been Able To Stop Thinking About Conor McGregor's Insane Energy In Road House

There’s a mashup video of Conor McGregor being edited into the Mission: Impossible franchise and various Fast & Furious movies that’s pure chaos. While I long thought that was the most unhinged thing I would ever see involving the former UFC champ, that paled in comparison to his portrayal of Knox in Road House. 

Seriously, I just can’t stop thinking about this jacked-up and psychotic villain whose only mission in the movie is to punch, kick, punch, drink coconut milk, and beat the mess out of anyone and everyone in his way. He’s less of a character and more of a force of nature, one that steals the show and makes the movie so much better. 

Listening To 'Kokomo' On The Way To The Hospital

Another thing I loved about Road House was the fact the movie never took itself too seriously, and just about every intense sequence was countered by a hilarious moment, which created a nice effect. 

About 20 minutes into the movie, after Dalton puts a beating on a group of bikers, he offers to give them a ride to the nearest hospital. It’s a short scene with very little dialogue, but the fact that the Beach Boys’ “Kokomo” is playing on the car radio is like the chef’s kiss of this sequence. It’s so random, so wholesome, and so effective.

I Don't Know Why But I Really Like That I Know The Road House Is About 25 Minutes From The Nearest Hospital

Did you know there is a hospital that is only about 25 minutes away from the Road House in Glass Key? Well, the movie makes sure you know several times.

I don’t know much about the hospital (Is it even in Glass Key or further along the highway?), but I do know that you can go from being in a bar fight to seeking emergency trauma care in under 30 minutes, depending on traffic. Broken arm, broken finger, an old and infected knife wound? You’re covered!

Once I Got Used To Them, The Fight Scenes Were So Absurdly Awesome

I didn’t immediately like the fight sequences in Road House, but not because I thought they looked bad. Instead, it had more to do with me having motion sickness from the way the camera jumps and pans around the brawlers. But, once I got used to the almost video game aesthetic, I fell in love with the way director Doug Liman filmed the fights. 

They were so brutal, so absurd, and so awesome! Shooting them this way also helped with the suspension of disbelief, especially when Dalton and Knox started going at it in the second half of the movie. 

Jake Gyllenhaal Pulled Off The 'Friendly Reluctant Badass' Character So, So Well

Much like Patrick Swayze’s John Dalton in the original Road House, Jake Gyllenhaal’s take on the character in the remake is a badass. On top of that, both are depicted as friendly enough guys who don’t really lose their cool (that UFC fight notwithstanding), and that’s really what makes them so appealing in the first place.

Gyllenhaal could have totally approached the character from the standpoint of your typical badass who jumps in and takes care of business, but instead he takes a more restrained and somewhat goofy approach. 

I Know The Boat Crash Makes Absolutely No Sense, But That Sort Of Makes The Whole Sequence Even Better

I love big, dumb moments in action movies, especially those that defy all logic and the laws of gravity. That said, Road House gave me one of the biggest, dumbest, and most head-scratching boat crashes I’ve seen in a long time, and I LOVED it.

It makes no sense when Dalton, Ellie (Daniela Melchior), and Ben Brandt (Billy Magnussen) crash a speed boat into the reef in front of the Road House and Ben is thrown flying into the sky, only to survive. But, I’m a sucker for this type of thing.

The Dynamic Shared By Dalton And Moe Throughout The Movie Brings So Much Joy To My Life For Some Reason

Arturo Castro’s Moe, one of the bikers who’s always crossing paths with Dalton in Road House, might be my favorite character in the whole movie. After their first scene together, I was hopeful it wouldn’t be a one-and-done and he would be around later on. Not only did I get my wish, but each interaction got better.

I lost my mind near the end of the movie where Moe told Dalton he was leaving town and that he only hung out with those goons because he really wanted to ride motorcycles, which was “hard to do in South Florida without a group.” 

That Slo-Mo Closing Titles Sequence (Along With The Post-Credits Scene) Was Just Great

While I’m a sucker for a great opening titles sequence, I also get down with eye-popping closing credits sequences, as well. So, imagine how stoked I was after finishing Road House only to find a slo-mo segment. The way scenes from the movie would turn into slowed-down digital recreations with 3D effects hit me like I was listening to one of those “Chopped and Screwed” remix albums out of the Houston hip-hop scene for the first time back in 2005.

Oh, and that post-credits scene where Knox walks out of the hospital (I thought he was dead) like nothing happened was just the cherry on top.

The Fact That A Crocodile Ate Someone And Everyone Was Just Like 'Okay, Just A Normal Day In The Keys'

It’s no secret that Florida is a crazy place where anything and everything can happen, like a crocodile pulling a henchman below the surface, never to be seen again. I don’t know if the residents and police in Glass Key are used to massive reptiles just straight-up eating people, but I just kept wondering about the family of JD Pardo’s character and if they just went about their business saying, “Well, it’s Florida.” 

I’m not mad about it (like Betty White in Lake Placid, I’m rooting for the crocodile), I just think it’s funny that it’s never brought up again.

Can We Get More Billy Magnussen Villain Roles?

With performances like Ben Brandt in Road House and Logan Ash in No Time to Die, Billy Magnussen has played some great villains in recent years, and I hope this continues. The way he brought the spoiled, bratty, and self-centered son managing the empire of an imprisoned crime boss to life was great, and added a nice touch to the movie. 

Sure, he wasn’t as odd as Ben Gazzara’s Brad Wesley in the original Road House, but Magnussen did steal the show whenever he was on screen. What was up with that haircut though? 

Was Road House a perfect movie? No, not really. But was it one of the wildest and most enjoyable experiences I’ve had with a 2024 new movie? You bet! It’s going to be hard to top this one…

For years and years, there’s been a push to recognize the best action movies, and specifically, their stunt teams at the Oscars. When it comes to projects on the 2024 film schedule, flicks like the well-reviewed Road House would be a shoo-in for that category…if it existed. However, the category is still not part of the Academy Awards, and after people had a chance to see all the wicked action in Doug Liman’s remake of Road House, one of the movie's stars spoke out about The Academy still not honoring stunt performers. 

Dominique Columbus, who plays Reef, one of the Road House’s security guys who is caught in a lot of the action, spoke with Hollywood Life about being part of the action in the movie. He also made sure to give props to the stunt guys he worked with while speaking out about why their work should be recognized at the Oscars:

Road House, which was led by stunt coordinators Steve Brown and Garrett Warren, is jam-packed with high-octane action. Columbus’ character is involved in a lot of it too. His character Reef ends up working at the Road House bar, and he assists Jake Gyllenhaal’s Dalton in getting all the violent fellas out. So, naturally, he was part of shooting a lot of the incredible fights in the film, and he got to see the stunt performers do what they do best. 

He’s also 100% correct, stunt performers do deserve recognition at the Oscars, and people have been pushing for it for years. 

For example, Jason Statham has been a major advocate for stunt people being recognized by The Academy. As an action star himself, he’s aware of all the work that goes into action sequences, and he eloquently explained that it takes years to learn and perfect their craft while also noting that these performers “are putting themselves at great risk for the good of the movie.” 

John Wick’s director Chad Stahelski has been pushing for a stunts category too, using a BTS video from his movie to prove his point. He’s also gone on the record saying something that fits right in with Columbus’ point, as the iconic action director told Deadline:

With a new casting category being added to the Oscars, it became clear that the award show is willing to implement new categories. Also, the fact that Chad Stahelski has been speaking with The Academy about recognizing stunts is encouraging. I know I’m hopeful about stunt performers finally getting the credit they deserve, and it feels like many folks in Hollywood are too.

There was a lot of hype behind the action scenes in Road House, and between their stunt team and stars, including Jake Gyllenhaal and UFC fighter Conor McGregor, the fights in this film are next level. If there were a stunt category at the Oscars, I feel like this movie would be an obvious pick for a nod.

However, at least for the next year, another Oscars will go by without stunt performers getting the praise they merit. Hopefully, someday soon, Dominique Columbus’ hopes will become a reality. Conor McGregor is one of the most entertaining MMA fighters to ever grace the octagon. Whether you love him or hate him for the way he struts around talking smack, it’s no surprise that fans have been all over his performance in Jake Gyllenhaal’s remake of the classic ‘80s action movie Road House. It sounds like Gyllenhaal had quite the experience with “The Notorious,” as he recalled the routine they had to go through before every take because McGregor kept trying to punch the actor in the face for real.

Jake Gyllenhaal paid a visit to the Smartless podcast to talk about the Road House remake (which is available to stream now with an Amazon Prime subscription), and he had plenty of positive things to say about the UFC star. The actor called Conor McGregor “amazing” and credited the fighter for coaching him through their fight scenes. However, when the cameras started rolling, McGregor apparently had to be constantly reminded not to actually hit Gyllenhaal. The star explained: 

It sounds like Conor McGregor’s instincts kept kicking in, because he’s definitely not used to throwing pretend punches when faced with an opponent in the octagon. It’s hilarious that Jake Gyllenhaal was still having to go through this routine with the UFC’s former two-belt champion months into shooting, but I understand why he did it, because I wouldn’t want to be hit in the face by McGregor either.

Unfortunately for the Jarhead star, he really did get “clocked” by Conor McGregor during one particularly late night of filming, so I’m sure he wanted to do everything possible to avoid that situation again.

Much of the buzz surrounding Road House has centered around the mixed martial artist in his first movie role. In the CinemaBlend review of Road House, Eric Eisenberg calls the movie “super violent and super funny,” while our own Sean O’Connell proclaims that Conor McGregor steals the show and is the main reason to stream the movie.

They’re not alone, either, as many critics have praised the UFC fighter, even saying he’s one of the reasons the remake is better than the 1989 original. Hopefully this will lead to Conor McGregor tackling more acting projects in the future, but his forthcoming co-stars should still be on the lookout if they happen to end up locked in a cage with him.

When Road House premiered on the 2024 movie schedule, Conor McGregor came flying onto the scene with it. Reviews for Road House were quick to praise the UFC fighter, and now the question has become: What will he do next? Well, it seems like he could easily take on another gig, and with that in mind, I’ve cooked up five ideas for what he should tackle next. And, of course, this list includes a Fast and Furious movie.

Fast And Furious 

The most obvious answer to this question is that Conor McGregor should play a villain in a Fast and Furious movie. He’d be joining quite the league of extraordinary bad guys that have been played by Jason Momoa, Charlize Theron and Jason Statham. Plus, like John Cena and Dwayne Johnson, the UFC champion would be another fighter/actor to join the beloved action franchise.

If this were to happen, I could see the Road House star coming into the fold like John Cena did, as a villain. Personally, I’d love to see him go toe-to-toe with Jason Statham’s Deckard Shaw.

While McGregor is obviously one of the best fighters, Statham is also a next-level stuntman and fighter. I also feel like their personalities would mesh well together as the Shaw actor seems a bit more reserved and calculated while McGregor is a firecracker. Add some fast cars or a plane into the mix, and you have yourself a seriously epic Fast and Furious action sequence.

I honestly think that if Conor McGregor continues down this acting path, Fast and Furious is the most obvious and fitting next project for him. So, if the upcoming Fast and Furious 11 is looking for another bad guy to share the screen with the current big bad, Jason Momoa’s Dante, I think we found him.

Jason Statham-esque Action Movies 

Speaking of Jason Statham, I’d love to see Conor McGregor in some sort of B-action movie like The Meg or The Beekeeper.

While these movies, like The Beekeeper, don’t get the best reviews, many truly love them, and they get very excited about the action. It’s so much fun seeing an action icon like Jason Statham bringing down a big bad – whether it be a tech billionaire in the bee-based movie or a massive sea creature in The Meg.

Based on what we learned in Road House, McGregor is very good at playing the wildcard fighter, and that alone makes him the perfect man to lead the kind of action movies Jason Statham is known for. The guy can do his own stunts, commit to a fun premise and help deliver a wildly entertaining action movie.

A Horror Movie That Involves A Brutal Kill  

Many of the best horror movies begin with a brutal kill. Take Scream for example, the opening scene of the classic film involving Drew Barrymore, the most famous person in the cast at the time, being taken out by Ghostface was terrifying, unexpected and wicked. That epic fight which ultimately led to her death set the tone for the horror movie, and wouldn’t it be cool if Conor McGregor was at the center of a moment like it?

Picture this: A horror movie opens with his character going about his life, and unexpectedly the villain comes after him. A brutal battle follows, and we get to see the UFC fighter’s skills on full display, and it ends with the bad guy getting him. I’m convinced this would be so epic, and it would be a super creative way to show off his skills as an athlete and actor. It seemed like he had a blast working on the bloody action in Road House, and if he wanted to up the ante in the acting department, I think a horror movie would be great for him.

So, maybe, someday, hopefully, we’ll see the fighter in an upcoming horror movie.

The Peaky Blinders Movie

From Tom Hardy to Sam Claflin to Sam Neill to Adrien Brody, we’ve seen many men try to go up against Cillian Murphy’s Tommy Shelby and the Peaky Blinders. This gangster drama set in Birmingham, England is ruthless, brutal, and incredibly stylish, plus its ensemble cast is next level when it comes to playing intimidating and powerful characters. So, naturally, I think Conor McGregor could thrive in that kind of project.

Considering we know a Peaky Blinders movie is in the works, I think it’d be a fantastic fit for the fighter. The show is known for its intense battles of both the physical and verbal types. Clearly, McGregor can excel at both, and I think it’d be amazing to see him in a well-tailored suit as an Irish mob boss who is set out to take down Tommy Shelby. Plus, if the fighter wants to make acting a more full-time gig, getting on a drama like this would be great for his filmography.

A Bio-Pic Loosely Based On Himself Starring Himself, Like 8 Mile and Eminem

There’s no question that 8 Mile is one of the best hip-hop movies, and part of the reason why is that it resembles Eminem’s personal story of coming up as a rapper. In the movie, we see Eminem play B-Rabbit, who has lived a life similar to his, as he tries to break into the rap scene and out of the violent cycle of poverty. It’s an intense and impactful story, and I think a semi-autobiographical film like this about the beginning of Conor McGregor’s career would pack a similar punch.

The fighter didn’t come from wealth, and before he became a champion he was an “apprentice plumber on social welfare,” as he told Bleacher Report. Then, once he broke big and he became one of the biggest and most famous fighters in the world, controversy punched him in the face. Seeing that story play out on the big screen, with him playing the lead would be a very compelling watch, like 8 Mile, and I think it’d be a good move for McGregor.

Of course, all of this is simply me going through what-if scenarios. However, I think it’s highly likely that we’ll see Conor McGregor dip his toe into acting again, because let’s be real, he’d thrive as an action star. Considering the success of many other fighters-turned-actors and Road House, it seems like a natural step for him to take on another role, and hopefully said role is in a project like one of the five listed above.

When we rounded up critics’ reactions to Road House, many were quick to sing Conor McGregor’s praises and overlook Jake Gyllenhaal’s performance as our leading man Dalton. Well, while the UFC fighter is great fun to watch in this film on the 2024 movie schedule, I think we’re focusing on the wrong guy, and it’s time we give Gyllenhaal the credit he deserves. 

Overall, reviews for this movie from Doug Liman are mixed. While CinemaBlend’s review of Road House by Eric Eisenberg sang Jake Gyllenhaal and Conor McGregor’s praises, other outlets didn’t think so highly. For example, the AV Club’s review says Gyllenhaal “looks uncomfortable,” and IndieWire said he “lacks the charisma” to pull off Dalton’s one-liners. Meanwhile, CinemaBlend’s Sean O’Connell said that McGregor steals the show from Gyllenhaal, and that “outside of Conor McGregor playing a gonzo fighter for hire, the remake packs little punch.” 

Well, I deeply disagree with all these opinions. In fact, I think the only reason Road House works is because of how excellent Jake Gyllenhaal is. 

Conor McGregor’s Performance Flies, But Jake Gyllenhaal’s Grounds The Whole Movie

Jake Gyllenhaal’s Dalton and Conor McGregor’s Knox are great foils, they contrast each other quite well, and watching them go up against each other is epic. 

McGregor rolls up acting like an over-the-top Fast and Furious villain, he’s constantly operating at an energy level of 100 out of 10, and he will throw a punch or run a car into something whenever the opportunity arises. It’s a lot to take in, and his violent reaction to everything is almost too much. However, I love that his absolutely wild villain is balanced out by Jake Gyllenhaal’s character. 

So, while Knox literally and figuratively flies around this movie like an absolute madman, Dalton is doing the exact opposite. He’s teaching others how to defend the bar, he’s taking criminals to the hospital, and he won’t get into a fight unless he has to. I love that juxtaposition, and I think it’s super effective. 

I also think this movie wouldn’t work if it was just Conor McGregor and someone else playing Dalton. Jake Gyllenhaal’s take on his character, which we’ll talk about next, is fascinating and subdued, he grounds the film, and without him, the UFC fighter wouldn’t have thrived.  

I Really Dug Dalton’s Reluctant Vigilante Mindset 

What makes Dalton so interesting to me is he doesn’t actually want to be a fighter. After a fatal UFC fight, he left and became a fighter for hire. He’s very smart when it comes to human anatomy, and throughout the film, he says how folks are injured, and at one point he even takes a group of bad guys he beat up to the hospital. I never expected an action movie like this to follow a guy like him. I thought he’d be the first into a fight, and I loved Road House more because he wasn't. Jake Gyllenhaal did too, as he told Today about the scene that sold him on the movie:

In the same interview, Gyllenhaal also explained that he loved the stillness and reluctance in his character when it comes to fighting, which I loved too:

The Zodiac actor’s performance is almost understated in a way because he’s fairly subdued and still. However, it also reminds me of the contemplative wild characters Gyllenhaal has played in the past – like Nightcrawler – that we know and love him for. The way he delivered his lines in such a calm manner and his expressions whenever a fight broke out showed this idea and just how much work the actor was doing to help the audience understand Dalton’s internal struggle. 

While Dalton is level-headed, I also noticed this battle going on within him that made me wonder when he was going to blow, because we know how aggressive, violent and spontaneous he can be. I loved that this guy was trying so hard to be good, but was always struggling with fighting his instinct to fight. The push and pull of that was what made Road House so interesting. 

Overall, this reluctant vigilante Gyllenhaal plays was incredibly compelling, and I appreciated his mentality when it came to picking his battles. It upped the stakes because you know that if he gets involved it will be deadly. Also, it makes for a complex protagonist because of this juxtaposition between his being an ultra-skilled and lethal fighter and his trying to be a calm and contemplative presence. 

In Terms Of Action, Jake Gyllenhaal And The Stunt Team Brought Their A-Games

When we got those first photos from the UFC match of Jake Gyllenhaal filming Road House, it was clear that the actor had fully committed to transforming into Dalton, and he looked absolutely ripped.

It turns out, it was more than just good looks, because Gyllenhaal brought his A-game to the action in this movie. Between the actor and his stunt double Eric Linden, they made Dalton a guy who could hold his own against Conor McGregor, and I fully believed that anyone who challenged the former fighter would lose. I think the best example of this came in the final fight against McGregor in the bar. It was brutal and scrappy, and I was ready to stand up and applaud Gyllenhaal and everyone involved in creating that jaw-dropping fight. 

Along with his skills as an actor, Gyllenhaal and the folks working on Road House made him look like a real lethal fighter when it was time to throw a punch. When you mix that with the reluctant vigilante mentality, you get a fascinating main character to go on this bonkers journey with. 

To me, the whole reason Road House works comes down to Jake Gyllenhaal. Yes, Conor McGregor is good, and I liked his performance. However, it’s crazy to me that the leading man of this movie isn’t getting as much credit as he deserves considering everything we’ve just discussed.

Those who have seen the new Road House movie know that it’s something that needs to be seen to be believed. The Road House fight sequences are insane, and it features real UFC fighter Conor McGregor as the primary antagonist to Jake Gyllenhaal. The Prisoners actor got in crazy physical shape for Road House, but this didn’t make fighting a real UFC champion any less scary, even if it was for the camera. Gyllenhaal recently opened up about what it was like working with McGregor, and how he once really got clocked by the famous fighter. 

In a recent interview with Howard Stern on Sirius XM radio, Gyllenhaal chatted with the host about working on the remake of Road House, and what went into making such a physical film. The actor is no stranger to transformative movie roles considering he lost 30 pounds for his role in Nightcrawler, and bulked up big time for Southpaw. But never before did he have to face a real MMA fighter like Conor McGregor on the big screen. Gyllenhaal said that even he was a bit nervous about the prospect, talking about one specific scene when McGregor had to headbutt him. He told the talk show host: 

For movies like Road House, the fights are choreographed stunts where no one is supposed to actually get hit. However, accidents happen and Gyllenhaal revealed that on one tired morning, McGregor accidentally swung and hit the Zodiac actor right in the face. The fighter totally felt bad about the whole thing, but Gyllenhaal was more bummed that the hit didn’t end up in the film. He explained:

I can’t imagine that was an easy hit to take head on. There is a lot of power behind that McGregor swing, and there was probably some kind of damage done. Gyllenhaal seems to have taken it like a champ, and cared more about how it looked on camera than his own wellbeing. Hitting someone by accident during a stunt isn’t unheard of, as Harrison Ford famously punched Ryan Gosling in the face while making Blade Runner 2049, and Frank Grillo also accidentally hit Ryan Reynolds during production on The Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard. Accidents may happen, but getting hit by Conor McGregor is a whole different level. 

McGregor wasn’t the only real fighter in Road House, and the production actually worked with a number of real fighters to make the action in the film as real as possible. However, according to Gyllenhaal, there are some downsides to this, as real fighters don’t like to miss. He told Howard Stern:

Oftentimes, fake hits look better on camera than real ones, which is probably why the real McGregor hit didn’t end up in the actual movie. The real fighters must’ve gotten the concept of fake hits eventually, as the action in Road House looks phenomenal. Audience’s would never guess that the actors were purposely missing their hits, considering how tough they look on screen. Fans are loving the achievement in the action revenge genre, and may just be one of the best action movies released in a long time.

Jake Gyllenhaal’s Road House remake has just premiered at Austin, Texas’ annual SXSW festival. So, how is it? Ahead of the Amazon Prime movie’s debut, the action movie was attached to a slew of controversial headlines between director Doug Liman blasting Amazon for having it go straight to streaming and a lawsuit from the original movie’s screenwriter. With the first reviews here, the feedback is mostly positive, and it's Conor McGregor who is getting a considerable amount of praise.

Conor McGregor is an Irish MMA fighter and UFC champion who makes his acting debut in Road House alongside Jake Gyllenhaal, who plays protagonist Elwood Dalton. So in the lead-up to the premiere, it was hard to predict just how McGregor might perform. Well, check out what CinemaBlend’s own Sean O’Connell said about Road House after attending the SXSW premiere: 

While Sean O’Connell shared that he “wouldn’t want a whole movie centered around McGregor’s character,” he felt the movie only reaches its “fullest potential” thanks to his presence. O’Connell is far from the only attendee of the premiere that is gassing up the championship-winning fighter's debut in a major way after seeing Road House. IndieWire’s Christian Zilko also said this: 

The pundit notably knocked Jake Gyllenhaal’s performance in his review, saying the actor doesn’t really sell it as a “conventional ‘80s macho man.” However, he also thought Conor McGregor, who plays the role of Knox, made up for what Gyllenhaal was lacking. On top of that, check out the praise The Guardian had to give the flick:

The publication’s Adrian Horton gave the movie three out of five stars, sharing that it delivers on a “good time” with some “knuckle-crackling fights” throughout. The Daily Beast also added to the praise for the Ireland native, saying this: 

It sounds like the flick is most definitely lucky to have Conor McGregor! The cast also includes Daniela Melchoir, Billy Magnussen, Jessica Williams, Lukas Gage and Post Malone. It’s obviously inspired by the iconic Patrick Swayze film from the '80s but, in this version, Jake Gyllenhaal plays an ex-UFC fighter who takes a job as a bar bouncer in the Florida Keys. Here’s how IGN described McGregor’s performance: 

Overall, following Road House’s buzzy premiere, it sounds like this is an entertaining (but not perfect) revamp of a classic film. All in all, its first audience seems to have had a great time, especially thanks to Con McGregor’s debut as an actor. We'll see if general audiences enjoy his work as much as critics did at SXSW. Jake Gyllenhaal’s remake of Road House rode into Austin for the SXSW Film Festival on a wave of minor controversies. The film’s director, Doug Liman, took shots at Amazon Prime Video for deciding not to give the movie a proper theatrical release. It will be available to those with a Prime Video subscription beginning on March 21. That brouhaha prompted Gyllenhaal to step in and say that Amazon was alway clear in its intent to go streaming with Road House, even though he respected Liman for defending their film, and championing the theatrical-going experience. These ripples would amount to nothing once Road House was released, so long as the film ended up being good. Entertaining movies tend to silence the noise.

Well, Road House is good. Just not great. It entertained the opening night crowd at the SXSW 2024 film festival… though that generous crowd tends to lose its mind at any film that’s marginally better than, say, Madame Web. But the adrenaline buzz that accompanies almost every festival screening should subside by the time Road House hits Amazon Prime Video, and people start to realize that outside of Conor McGregor playing a gonzo fighter for hire, the remake packs little punch. 

The original Road House was a showcase for the late Patrick Swayze, red hot thanks to 1987’s Dirty Dancing. He played Dalton, a seasoned bar bouncer hired by an establishment’s owner to come help clean up their honkeytonk. Swayze’s Dalton was a pacifist, a philosophy student whose mantra (which he spread to the bouncer recruits under his wing) was, “I want you to be nice until it’s time to not be nice.” 

That’s one of the biggest changes made by director Doug Liman as he modernizes Road House. Jake Gyllenhall’s Dalton is a former UFC fighter with rage issues who seemingly flushed his career after killing his friend in the ring mid-fight. His brutal reputation precedes him. He currently earns money participating in back-alley brawls but scaring opponents away (like Post Malone) because they know he’s lethal. It’s a creative choice, though the primal anger driving Dalton makes him less interesting, and more cliched than Swayze’s version. 

The other major change is a location shift to the Florida Keys, which leads to some breathtaking cinematography – a “date” scene on a sand dune between Gyllenhaal and Daniela Melchior helps make the argument for big-screen treatment, alone – and an ambitious but clumsy boat chase in the film’s third act. You know what doesn’t come with the Florida location? Weirdness. The movie’s painfully lacking in humor, the kind of off-the wall unpredictability that the Keys easily could have provided. Outside of one hilarious incident with an alligator, the Florida locale is underused. Why not set this Road House in Missouri, like the original, if you aren’t going to take full advantage of your Floridian setting. 

It didn’t hit me how pedestrian and flat Road House was until Conor McGregor showed up in the story… and finally, the movie wasn’t so humdrum anymore. McGregor (an actual UFC champion) provides the necessary spark every single minute that he’s on screen. His scenes with Gyllenhaal are the film’s most kinetic, and most dangerous. In every other confrontation, because Dalton’s legend surrounds him, the movie’s going through the motions. I wouldn’t want a whole movie centered around McGregor’s character. But Road House only reaches its fullest potential when he’s on the screen. 

It comes down to this: Road House doesn’t give enough reason to justify the remake. The “criminal” plot driving the story forward is muddled and silly. Dalton’s reasons for getting involved are thin, and his reasons for staying involved are nonexistent. Our crowd cheered the loudest every time Gyllenhaal, who properly sculpted his physique, took his shirt off. If that’s all you require, stream away.

This week, Grammy winner Sinéad O'Connor passed away at the age of 56. The Irish singer was known for her many soulful ballads, including her most revered track, “Nothing Compares 2 U,” which skyrocketed her to fame in 1990. She was also known for her evocative candor, often boldly speaking up for social causes she believed in. O’Connor was beloved and, since her passing was reported, many stars like Conor McGregor, Sami Zayn and even the TV series Outlander, have paid tribute to her.

Conor McGregor, who like Sinéad O'Connor shares an Irish heritage, tweeted about how much her music meant to him. He lauded her talent and shared photos of himself and the singer. The MMA fighter also mentioned O’Connor’s son, who also passed away last year. You can see his emotional tribute to her below:

Bear McCreary, composer known for The Rings of Power and Outlander, expressed his own love for the Irish chart-topper. He gave insight into his special relationship with her and the time they spent together. You can see his message below:

The official Twitter account for the TV series Outlander also expressed condolences over Sinéad O’Connor’s passing, responding to the tweet from Bear McCreary. The singer’s music was featured in the credits of Season 7 of the popular Starz show. In the tweet, thanked her for her contribution in the tribute, which you can see below:

WWE superstar Sami Zayn also shared a sweet reaction on X about the singer's passing, mentioning the mental health struggles Sinéad O’Connor dealt with throughout her life. Zayn also used the name Shuhada, which was her preferred, chosen name after converting to Islam back in 2018. The wrestler said:

Singer Jason Isabell, who is also a Grammy winner, also took to social media send a message of peace to the I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got artist. He accompanied his message with the lyrics to her song “This Is A Rebel Song,” which you can see below:

Ice-T was also a fan of the late songstress and expressed his own reverence for her in a post. He states his respect for her as a fierce activist, and how she was unafraid to stand for something. Sometimes her boldness garnered backlash, like her infamous banning from SNL, but it’s something that a lot of people loved about her. The rapper said:

The series does dive into other aspects of his life, like the fallout from an April 2018 incident where he threw a dolly through the window of a competitor's bus, the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, and his ever-growing family.

The Docuseries Also Briefly Dives Into Conor McGregor's Upbringing And Rise To Fame

Though the main focus of the series is on several bouts inside the octagon, the documentary also briefly dives into hiss upbringing and rise to fame, similar to the 2017 documentary film, Conor McGregor: Notorious. A lot of these archival shots and interviews are used to add context to the man's upcoming fights and issues in his personal life, which creates a dynamic experience.

This Is Very Much A Sports Documentary

McGregor Forever is very much a sports documentary, both in terms of tone and presentation. The series spends a considerable amount of time diving into the fighter’s personal life and the issues he’s faced over the years, which can also be seen in any of the great 30 for 30 films or other sports documentaries out there. That being said, this one reminds you time and time again that we are all here to see the athlete work in the octagon and train his ass off to get into fighting shape in the lead-up to each bout. 

The Docuseries Is Split Into Four Chapters

McGregor Forever is split into four chapters ranging from 46 to 54 minutes in length. You’ll be dedicating around four hours of your time to watch the whole thing unfold, but the structure of each of these chapters make the series fly by. 

McGregor Forever Is Rated TV-MA, Mostly Due To Profanity

There are a lot of great Netflix documentaries out there, and a large portion of them carry a TV-MA rating, especially all those true crime shows on the platform. Well, the same can be said about McGregor Forever, as it also carries the streamer’s most restrictive rating. This is mostly due to the profanity from the star himself, as you will quickly find out a few minutes into the first episode. This will be nothing new if you’ve watched McGregor’s various UFC press conferences and interviews throughout his career.

Jake Gyllenhaal has always been a good-looking, in-shape guy who people swoon over. However, we got a whole new (hot) look from the actor as he took off his shirt and flexed for a UFC weigh-in while filming the Road House remake. Understandably, when this video of the Southpaw star emerged on the internet, it went viral (like the time clip of the actor forgetting he was in a movie with Dennis Quaid did), and many lost their minds over the actor’s ripped physique, and I gotta say, same. 

Gyllenhaal and his Road House co-star, and UFC icon Conor McGregor were both at the 285’s ceremonial weigh-ins because they were filming a scene for the upcoming movie, according to MMA Fighting. In the video, the actor whipped off his sweatshirt, showing off his six-pack and impeccable physique as he stood on the scale, and flexed. ESPN MMA posted a video of Gyllenhaal showing up at the UFC weigh-in, and you can check out the actor's ripped physique here: 

How could you not swoon, get hyped or freak out over Gyllenhaal, he looks amazing. Many took to Twitter to share their enthusiasm about the actor’s transformation, posting things like @Bkgyllenhaal who reposted the video, and wrote:

There has been a bit of apprehension toward the remake of the ‘89 Patrick Swayze-led action flick. However, after it started filming, and this video of Gyllenhaal it seems like the viewers are starting to get hyped for this remake. 

While we don’t know when the remake of Road House will come out, we do know from this video that Gyllenhaal came ready to fight in this movie, and look amazing doing it. Everything is moving quickly for the Jake Gyllenhaal-led remake of the Patrick Swayze movie Road House, as production on the Amazon Prime film will start this month. While most of the cast was already announced, another co-star has been revealed, and their presence will play right into Gyllenhaal’s UFC angle. The remake just tapped a UFC icon to make their acting debut.

Deadline reports that two-time UFC champion Conor McGregor will join Jake  Gyllenhaal in the reboot of the 1980s classic action flick. It’s unknown what McGregor’s role will be in the upcoming film. This won’t be the mixed martial artist’s first film, as he headlined the 2017 documentary Conor McGregor: Notorious. Sources close to the project claimed McGregor won’t play himself, but an original character for the Road House remake.

McGregor joining the Road House remake comes after years of being courted by Hollywood to be in a film. He came close after being offered, but McGregor said no to the lead role in 2018's The Predator after not being sold on the story. The UFC legend was determined to find the right role and not jump on any opportunity. He agreed to join Gyllenhaal and the rest of the remake's after watching the original Road House to get familiar with it. Upon seeing the film, he reportedly agreed to meet with producer Joel Silver and fell in love with Silver’s idea for a fresh take on the original story.  

Considering Gyllenhaal’s character is a former UFC fighter, it’s refreshing to see McGregor being included in the UFC-centric reboot. What’s even better is that the mixed martial artist chose to not play himself (or a caricature of himself), instead push against the sports-to-screen trajectory to take on a person different from himself. But this poses another question: will he play another UFC fighter, a bouncer (like Gyllenhaal) or someone completely out of left field?

The MMA star joined an already robust cast headlined by Jake Gyllenhaal. Billy Magnussen, Daniela Melchior, Gbemisola Ikumelo, Lukas Gage, Hannah Love Lanier, Travis Van Winkle, B.K. Cannon, Arturo Castro, Dominique Columbus, Beau Knapp and Bob Menery were already announced to join the Ambulance star in the reimagining of the beloved Patrick Swayze film. Much like McGregor’s role, it’s unclear what each actor’s character will be in the action film.

As wait for more news about the remake, the Amazon movie is just one of the laundry list of upcoming Jake Gyllenhaal movies lined up. He will be heard in the Disney animated film Strange World, as seen in the Disney trailer featuring Gyllenhaal's character. The Oscar nominee will also appear in the upcoming thriller The Interpreter and is attached to projects like The Division with Oscar winner Jessica Chastain, and the comic book-to-film adaptation Prophet.

As production starts this month, it is unclear when the Road House remake will premiere on the streamer. Jake Paul celebrated another victory in the ring this weekend. The YouTuber turned boxer won a decision over former UFC champion Tyron Woodley, and now everyone is wondering who his next opponent might be. The undefeated social media star will likely have his pick of a lot of fighters who would jump at what should be a huge payday, but there’s one name that keeps coming back around: Conor McGregor.

Jake Paul has been fixating on the beloved Irishman for what feels like his entire boxing career. Initially his desire to fight Conor McGregor seemed like a pipe dream, but as the MMA star has piled up a few losses and Paul has turned himself into one of the biggest draws in boxing, the bout is starting to make a lot more sense. The topic, of course, came up in the post-match press conference after the Woodley fight. Here’s what Paul had to say…

Of course this is far from the first time Jake Paul has talked a little trash to Conor McGregor. The influencer openly mocked him after his last defeat in the UFC and spent $100,000 on a necklace depicting him knocked out. Before that, he even took public shots at his wife. McGregor has mostly stayed away from the conversation to this point, but given how much he likes to run his own mouth, it seems likely he’ll get in on this action, at least now that Paul has been legitimized a bit with his recent wins.

I have no idea if this superfight will ever happen, but if it does, it will generate a ton of pay per view buys. Jake’s brother Logan Paul and Floyd Mayweather reportedly did a million or so buys earlier this summer. It’s hard to imagine a McGregor and Paul fight wouldn't blow right past that. In fact, I’m not sure there’s an opponent either person could fight that would generate as much money as this clash could.

But there are reasons this might not happen. First, McGregor is currently hurt. Second, he’s been open about wanting to get another UFC title shot. This goal would put him further away from that, as training for a boxing match and a UFC fight are not the same thing. Third, it’s possible McGregor may not want to take on the possible downside of losing to Paul.

Following his recent fight against Woodley, Paul has made some statements about stepping away and retiring. I’m not sure anyone is taking them seriously. The question is not if he’ll fight again. The question is who he’ll fight again. Paul clearly wants McGregor, but the jury is out as to whether that’ll actually happen.

On his road to becoming a serious contender in the world of amateur boxing, YouTube star Jake Paul has aimed his trash-talking at tons of people, both in boxing and in the MMA world at large, with former UFC champ Conor McGregor being a frequent target of choice. Paul has somehow upped his trolling game following Conor McGregor's brutal leg injury and (second) loss to Dustin Poirier at UFC 264, and yes, it involves that $100,000 custom-made "Sleepy McGregor" chain.

As the majority of UFC fans are well aware, Conor McGregor lost to Dustin Poirier by TKO after breaking his tibia at the end of the first round, although the results were somewhat overshadowed by the overwhelming amount of shit-talking McGregor has spewed about Poirier and his wife, both before and after the fight. While Poirier has largely (though not completely) refrained from making any retaliatory statements - he's even been retweeting fans talking smack against him - Jake Paul had no such reservations about getting buck on McGregor. What's more, he even got Poirier's help in the matter.

Jake Paul is donating his six-figure chain to Dustin Poirier as a celebratory gesture, and the Louisiana native will be auctioning off the chain, with proceeds from the auction going to charity. Paul revealed the benevolent exchange to ESPN, saying:

While Dustin Poirier hadn't yet received the chain at the time of the report, the UFC Lightweight's agent confirmed that Sleepy McGregor was being shipped over. It's not clear exactly what charity will be getting the proceeds from this particular auction, but Poirier will almost certainly be donating it to The Good Fight Foundation. Poirier's non-profit has helped schools, students, young athletes and more, not only in Louisiana, but also around the world. It's also where he donates proceeds from auctions for his fight gear, which is also the case here.

It's arguably the most awesome gesture possible to come out of such an expensive mega-trolling like Jake Paul's Sleepy McGregor chain. The up-and-coming boxer's beef with McGregor was self-started, with Paul offering the Irish brawler and his camp a whopping $50 million to duke it out in a boxing ring, but McGregor never accepted. During the press conference for his upcoming bout with UFC star Tyron Woodley, Paul gave a hilarious update for how much money he'd pay McGregor to fight after the Poirier loss, saying:

To date, Jake Paul has put his fists where his money and his mouth are by way of his win column. It'll likely take a bit longer before he'll get widespread respect, especially from those who've been hating on him since long before his fight career began, but he and brother Logan Paul already have a major boxing star in their corner, so to speak. So maybe one day, after Conor McGregor bids farewell to his UFC career, he'll accept that $23 wager and face Paul to put this sorta-rivalry to the test. And hopefully that also results in a wildly ridiculous piece of ornamental jewelry that brings in money for charity.

Conor McGregor’s fight last night against Dustin Poirier inside the UFC Octagon did not go as planned, at least for the mega-popular Irishman. The former MMA champion suffered a pretty gruesome leg injury near the end of the first round after shifting his weight and was unable to continue much to the disappointment of most fans. Not among those disappointed, however, was boxer, social media star and all-world shit-talker Jake Paul who immediately took to social media to roast McGregor.

The trash talk from Jake Paul started months prior to the fight. The YouTube star and influencer has been trying to get Conor McGregor to step in the ring with him, and as part of that campaign, he’s turned to every manner of insult. He brought up the UFC fighter’s most famous losses. He took very direct shots at his wife and her attractiveness. Most recently, he spent $100,000 on a custom made chain that included a miniature version of McGregor knocked out. It’s one of the most outrageous uses of money I’ve ever seen, and it was an expert level insult only Jake Paul would consider. Given all that, it wasn’t a surprise at all to see Paul dancing on Twitter after his foe’s defeat.

In a series of four tweets, Jake Paul referred to the Irishman as “sleepy” after the knockout. Afterwards, he taunted McGregor and said he was lowering the purse for a proposed fight to $23 before offering to ship Dustin Poirier NyQuil to celebrate putting his opponent to sleep. Lastly, he sent out a tweet with an edited video that started with McGregor boasting about people being carried out on stretchers before cutting to footage of McGregor being carried out on a stretcher. Obviously, all of this boasting is because Jake Paul wants to fight Conor McGregor. He’s been very open about his desire in the past, and he clearly thinks the best way to make that happen is to piss the fighter off. Prior to last night’s fight, his efforts didn’t seem to be working. McGregor didn’t really acknowledge the insults, except to call him a “dingbat” and made it clear his intentions were to get back on top of the UFC mountain. With another loss under his belt, however, I honestly think he should entertain the Jake Paul stuff.

Conor McGregor is, without question, the most popular fighter in UFC history. He’s a phenomenon who has put up huge pay per view numbers. In fact, last night’s fight is expected to get to 1.7 or 1.8M buys. That’s really impressive. Jake Paul, of course, has been putting up some huge numbers on his own. If both he and McGregor went all-out with promotions prior to the fight, it’s not hard to think they could put up 2M buys or more which would represent a gigantic payday for both men. Perhaps more importantly for McGregor, being the person to finally knock Jake Paul out would be an opportunity to build even more good will with fans.

Jake Paul, is, of course, a major star in his own right. The popular YouTuber turned to boxing on the undercard of an exhibition fight his brother Logan Paul put together, and he looked really good. He later fought former NBA player Nate Robinson on the undercard of the Mike Tyson/ Roy Jones Jr fight and scored a knockout pretty easily. He then turned to former MMA fighter Ben Askren, and surprised pretty much everyone by making relatively easy work of him. Now many are wondering just how high his ceiling might be.

I have no idea what’s going to happen or not happen moving forward. We don’t know the full extent of McGregor’s injuries at this point, but it seems likely he has a lot of rehab ahead of him. Paul has his own hill to climb of a different variety. He’s scheduled to face former UFC champion Tyron Woodley in a boxing match at the end of August. A win over Woodley would really cement his reputation as someone with real skill and not just a sideshow, which could potentially set the groundwork for a fight with McGregor that would generate a lot of interest.

That’ll only happen of course if Conor McGregor is actually interested in taking the fight, which is a huge unknown. It’ll only happen if the details can be worked out with his contract, and it’ll only happen if he’s able to rehab and get himself back in fighting shape. That’s a lot of ifs, but it’s fun to think about and it would certainly be the most lucrative next step for both men. I mean can you imagine what these two would get up to if they started directly engaging each other? Paul would get even wilder. McGregor has a long history of saying really aggressive things about his opponents. Can you imagine how he would respond to something like this chain thing if he were trying to sell a fight? Let’s get a look at that magic…

It should be noted that there are definitely some MMA and boxing fans who don’t want to see this fight happen. They would rather see McGregor rehab and get back to fighting legitimate opponents to try and regain a title. I get it and that opinion is valid, but having lost three of his last four fights in the Octagon, I’d rather see him punch Jake Paul and potentially cash a check for $50M or more while doing it. We’ll see.

Conor McGregor stepped back in the Octagon last night after more than a year away, and unfortunately, his return to the UFC did not go as planned. The Irishman was knocked out in the second round by Dustin Poirier, and now, many are questioning what the right next move is for the most popular fighter in mixed martial arts history, given he’s lost 2 of his last 3 fights and 3 of his last 6. Some are pushing for him to try and immediately avenge this loss by fighting Poirier, while others are suggesting he open the Jake Paul door. So, what’s the right move? Let’s talk out the possibilities.

The most important question after any fighter loses, especially any fighter that’s 32, is whether or not he looks washed. Conor McGregor does not look washed. He looked pretty good during the first round and certainly did not look overmatched until he got stunned in the second. That being said, there’s a big difference between being able to hang with good competition and being on the most elite level of the sport. The jury is still out as to whether McGregor can ever get back to the truly elite level he was at several years ago.

In a social media post after the loss, McGregor referred to a “trilogy”, clearly indicating he would like to get back in the ring with Poirier. That seems like the most direct possible path moving forward, but it’s a little more complicated than that. Khabib Nurmagomedov, who beat both McGregor and Poirier, recently retired, vacating the UFC Lightweight Championship. Going into last night, most people expected the winner of McGregor and Poirier to compete for that vacated belt. I’m not sure it makes sense for that fight to feature McGregor since he just lost. So, would Poirier pass up a shot at the belt to finish this trilogy?

And what about Jake Paul? Journalists were apparently told no Jake Paul questions prior to media availability this past week. Dana White has also made it clear he does not want the fight to happen, but Conor McGregor has opened the sideshow door before. He reportedly made more than $100M by stepping into a boxing ring with Floyd Mayweather a few years ago. Now Mayweather is set to box Jake’s brother Logan Paul in February in a fight that should earn both of them a huge payday. A bout between McGregor and Jake Paul would likewise be a huge revenue earner, and it would almost certainly allow him to put a win on the board. Paul himself has also made it clear for months how badly he wants it to happen, even insulting McGregor's wife.

But at 32 years old, McGregor probably doesn’t have a lot of time left for elite fights. If he were to take 6 months out of his schedule to train for another boxing match, the chances of him going back to UFC and being able to go on a multi-fight run to the point of getting another shot at the title he lost are very remote, although a match could happen sooner than that, I suppose, since Paul has said he wants to fight in April.

So, I guess the question ultimately comes down to what he wants most. Does he want to avenge this loss and push UFC boss Dana White to try and make that happen? Does he want to try someone else in the UFC, hopefully win and then try to fight Poirier who might have the belt at that point? Or does he want to chase the money and potentially make a fortune throwing fists with Jake Paul in a sideshow that would generate millions of pay-per-view buys and allow him to keep a really healthy percentage of the gross?

A little more than a year ago, Conor McGregor stepped in the Octagon with veteran mixed martial arts fighter Donald Cerrone. It took the popular Irishman only 40 seconds to deliver a vicious knockout, and it took far less time for what felt like millions of his fans to get on Twitter and start trash talking everyone else in the UFC. The plan was for two more fights in 2020 and another shot at the title he lost. Unfortunately, life got in the way. Whether it be because of the pandemic or some issues with UFC President Dana White, McGregor hasn’t been in action since. Fortunately, that’s all about to change with a fight that could open some big doors.

On January 23rd, Conor McGregor will headline UFC 257 when he squares off with Dustin Poirier. Neither man needs any introduction for fight fans, but for the casuals wondering why Poirier’s name sounds familiar, it’s because the two men actually fought at UFC 178 all the way back in 2014. McGregor wasn’t yet the global superstar he would later turn into thanks to a string of vicious knockouts and his superfight against Floyd “Money” Mayweather, and Poirier wasn’t anywhere near the developed fighter he later turned into. They weren’t even the main event.

McGregor ended the last fight via TKO in the first round, but many assume he’ll be in for much more of a challenge this time. Poirier is 10 and 2 since the last bout and has consistently put up Fight Of The Night performances over that stretch. In addition, there’s a possibility that some big opportunities could be ahead for whoever wins. UFC Lightweight Champion Khabib Nurmagomedov (who previously beat both McGregor and Poirier) recently announced his retirement. The speculation right now is that whoever wins at UFC 257 will fight for that soon to be vacant title, provided Nurmagomedov can’t be convinced to get in the Octagon again.

Of course, when it comes to McGregor, there’s always the lingering question of what he really wants. Those close to him are saying he’s in the best shape of his life. Dana White recently said the real Conor is back, but unlike the majority of mixed martial arts fighters, he has a ton of lucrative opportunities outside the UFC.

His fight with Mayweather reportedly earned him $130M. He’s been offered roles in movies and remains a pop culture figure. Recently, popular YouTuber Jake Paul has been trying to coax him into a boxing match too. Given the popularity of both men, that pay per view could be incredibly lucrative. Dana White, however, has been very insistent that won’t happen, but ultimately, McGregor is going to do what McGregor wants to do.

Regardless of what happens down the road, what matters in the immediacy is this fight against Dustin Poirier. Nothing opens more doors than winning, and a victory here would be huge for both men. Each has something to prove too. Poirier obviously wants revenge for the loss he took more than 6 years ago and assumedly wants a shot at the title, and McGregor wants to prove that he’s back and as badass as ever. He’s had some tremendous wins and produced some all-time highlights during his UFC career, but his two biggest recent fights against Mayweather and Nurmagomedov were both losses. I’m sure he would love to have a belt around his waist again to prove the haters wrong.

UFC 257 will take place on Saturday January 23rd in the United Arab Emirates. In addition to the main event discussed above, it’ll also feature some great lower card action including Dan Hooker and Michael Chandler and Jessica Eye and Joanne Calderwood. With a total of 12 fights, it should be a pretty spectacular night, and it’ll have a direct impact on some headline level UFC cards in the future. You’re not going to want to miss out. This has the potential to be the biggest and best fight card of the year. Fortunately, the pay per view is already available for preorder. Much like the fighters who bloody up the octagon on a regular basis, UFC fans are quite an uproarious bunch, so it was not surprising at all when many of them decried bossman Dana White's decision to once again raise the prices of pay-per-view events going into the highly anticipated UFC 257, which will be back on Fight Island. But for everybody who is flippantly saying they won't pay it, and will instead opt to find a way to stream it illegally, Dana White is coming after you. In theory, at least.

After Dana White shared an Instagram post promoting the upcoming rematch brawl between Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier, one sarcastic fan thanked White and implied he'd watching the fights via a pirated website. That led to the UFC boss issuing a direct threat to that fan and others, complete with double fist emojis.

Dana White's response was equally threatening and vague AF, since he didn't indicate exactly what he has in mind for curbing illegal streaming of UFC PPV events. Whatever it is, though, he seems pretty confident that some form of vengeance is potentially in the cards. Not only does he imply he's going to "catch" the fan in question – and with three exclamation marks, no doubt – but that there's some kind of surprise punishment will be dished out after the fact. You can tell he meant business, too, because he fully spelled out "fuckers' while the fan had quasi-censored his own "fuxk" above it.

I will go on the record to say I doubt the surprise he's talking about involves someone popping out of a cake. Although that would be a pretty cool way to start off the McGregor-Poirier fight. But what's Dana White actually planning here? Is he going to sic Amanda Nunes on people like he wanted to do with Jake Paul? Or maybe he'll just sic Jake Paul on people...

The world of online pirating has long been a thorn in the side of scripted entertainment projects, from blockbuster movies to epic TV shows, and it's had a measurable effect on the industry over the years. The same can easily be said for pirated sporting events such as UFC PPVs and NFL games, though they don't get quite as much coverage as other forms. and Dana White has taken steps to keep such behavior to a minimum in the past, such as bringing in companies to monitor social media for posts about illegal feeds, and to seek out websites sharing links to such feeds.

Such strategies aren't always successful, and there will always be someone else out there finding ways to host links without drawing the attention of Dana White & Co. But it's certainly possible that White has found a new and surprisingly effective strategy to take down illegal streamers (i.e. "u mother fuckers") going into 2021. I guess we won't know until it gets here, though.

To be sure, not a lot of fans seem to be giving Dana White's threats any weight, since it's not the first time he's spoken out against such behavior. Plus, UFC fans seem to be quite fond at ruffling White's feathers, along with those of just about anybody else in the company. Probably still isn't that smart to antagonize him about pirating his shit in such a public forum, though, even if it does suck that the prices are going up only a year after the last increase.

Jake Paul can’t stop, won’t stop running his mouth. The controversial YouTube star’s own brother called him “dumb” after he went in on former UFC Champion Conor McGregor’s wife. Now he’s back with a new impromptu interview that both lights up UFC Women’s Champion Amanda Nunes and takes aim at a new opponent who Paul apparently thinks could be a good stepping stone to eventually fighting McGregor.

Jake Paul was apparently out and about earlier this week when he ran into a TMZ cameraman. Naturally, the cameraman asked him about Amanda Nunes. The champion said she’d be down to fight Paul after UFC boss Dana White floated the idea, but the social media star apparently isn’t into the idea because she has “shitty engagement” and there’s not enough personal history… like say what he has with Dillon Danis. Quick backstory here. Dillon Danis is buddies with Conor McGregor. He’s also a mixed martial arts fighter, and he’s been getting into it a bit with Paul, both on social media and in real life. The two have fired some shots back and forth over girlfriends/ ex-girlfriends, and in an ultimate troll move, Paul drove by one of his video shoots and threw water balloons.

It seems like this Jake Paul/ Dillon Danis fight might actually come together. Or if not, there are no shortage of other mixed martial arts fighters and boxers lining up to take their shot. If so, it’s really going to be a sink or swim moment for Paul. Let's say the Danis fight does come together. There will definitely be some interest from the general public, but it’s hard to imagine it getting anywhere close to the $50M number he’s floated for a possible fight with McGregor. So, in some ways, this next one may wind up being the fight to get to the next fight, but Danis is a real fighter with a lot of experience, who has trained extensively with McGregor. No offense to former NBA player Nate Robinson who Paul knocked out, but this fight would be a completely different level of hard. And if he loses, it’s hard to imagine the momentum continuing. You can’t lose against McGregor’s training partner and then get a fight against McGregor. That wouldn’t make any sense.

Regardless, what Jake Paul is going to continue doing is generating publicity for Jake Paul. He’s a master at the hype game, and he has been in rare form since his match with Nate Robinson. I’m a bit surprised he’s not sticking with former athletes and non-combat sport celebrities to fight, but if he does fight Danis and he can somehow beat him, look out. The buzz will be extremely loud and not just because Paul will be screaming taunts at everyone himself.

Tons of people out there would likely pay a lot of money to avoid going head to head with an established MMA fighter, but YouTube celeb Jake Paul is very much on the opposite end of that spectrum. Paul only recently went public with his $50 million challenge to UFC star Conor McGregor, and bolstered that by calling out several other fighters he'd be keen on facing in the boxing ring following his PPV bout with Nate Robinson. His comments set the Internet ablaze, and now one of his proposed challengers has accepted the match with some heated words of his own.

Former Bellator and ONE Fighting Championship champion Ben Askren took to Twitter with a video response that is almost hilariously subdued, considering everything he's saying. Here's how Askren started things off:

This is the point where Jake Paul should grow Bugs Bunny ears and get right up in Ben Askren's face to say, "Of course you know, this means war." With his response, Askren doesn't sound the slightest bit nervous about stepping into the ring with Paul. Rather, he sounds more excited about the prospect of a big payday to take down what he sees as a negligible risk.

Ben Askren continued by listing off some of his athletic achievements, and then calls Jake Paul out for being "deluded" enough to consider himself a fighter. Read on:

To be sure, Ben Askren accepting Jake Paul's challenge is not a full confirmation that the boxing match is actually going to happen. Especially since several other fighters have already shown their eagerness to also get in the ring with the Internet star. The UFC's Michael Bisping is down to clown, for one, and Amanda Nunes agreed with Dana White's humorous threat to get her to "knock [Paul's] ass out." However, the fact that Askren specifically went with a March 28 date in Los Angeles seems to indicate that there were indeed some official discussions being had behind the scenes.

It's somewhat surprising that Ben Askren is so eager to accept this challenge, considering he retired from MMA bouts in 2019 after a three-fight stint in the UFC. Askren had to have hip replacement surgery in the interim, and while he likely won't be making any full-time returns to the UFC or Bellator, he has expressed interest in taking on smaller-scale one-off fights, though I can't imagine he had Jake Paul in mind for his first post-retirement squabble.

For now, everything is still up in the air – including Nate Robinson's own fighting future – but there's a good chance MMA fans will get to watch Jake Paul taking on Ben Askren in a boxing match in early 2021. The history of boxing is filled with not only some of the greatest fighters in history but also some of the biggest shit-talkers. From Muhammad Ali’s constant stream of trash talk to Mike Tyson’s scary threats, many of the legends turned pre-fight insults into an art form. Let the record show Jake Paul fits right in. The controversial YouTube star turned fighter has taken his trash-talking to another level since knocking out former NBA player Nate Robinson, and it’s not showing any signs of slowing down.

Even after his brother Logan Paul called him “fucking dumb” for insulting UFC legend Conor McGregor and his wife, Jake Paul got back on the horse and traded verbal shots with former UFC champion Chris Weidman. Here’s a short recap. Paul dropped a hype video slamming McGregor, saying his wife wasn’t very attractive and challenging him to a pay-per-view fight with a guaranteed $50M purse. Weidman, who is a four time UFC Champion, took a screenshot of the video and commented on how punchable his face is. On the one hand, I completely get it from Paul’s perspective, at least when it comes to this exchange. Weidman entered the fray, and if you’re gonna drop insults, you should expect them to come back at you. That being said, it’s still unclear what Paul’s end goal with these fights is. He’s clearly a good boxer compared to… normal people, but there’s a giant difference between fighting someone like Nate Robinson who is merely a good athlete and fighting someone like Conor McGregor or Chris Weidman who fights for a living.

If the goal here is to generate another big pay-per-view event, Jake Paul could likely do that by fighting someone like Conor McGregor. He could, in theory, make millions of dollars and then slide into doing something else. I think there are a lot of people who would take some punches for a few million dollars, but if the goal is to set up a sustained run of boxing matches, then he should consider fighting some more former NBA players or non-fight athletes. A few more wins would generate even more momentum and continue to set up future fights. He could potentially win those too.

Regardless, Jake Paul is a salesman and a shit-talker. As his brother said on a recent episode of Impaulsive, he’s a born villain, which means, regardless of how much people caution him against it or how long the odds might be, he’s going to keep taunting people and keep mixing it up because that’s just who he is. Some people love that about him. Some people hate it. I’m not sure how he feels about those polarized reactions, but my guess is, as long as people keep tuning in, he doesn’t care.

Much has been made about YouTube star Logan Paul’s decision to fight undefeated boxing legend Floyd Mayweather, but if you ask him, the risk there is nothing compared to his brother antagonizing former UFC Champion Conor McGregor. In fact, Logan Paul took his brother Jake to task recently, saying he’s dumb and going to get himself seriously hurt stepping into the ring. Obviously he was almost immediately roasted by his Impaulsive co-hosts for criticizing him and stepping in the ring with Mayweather, but he feels it’s very different.

The conversation took place during the Impaulsive episode that dropped earlier this week. Paul and company played the recent clip of Jake Paul calling out Conor McGregor and taking shots at his wife. None of it sat very well with Logan Paul who took some shots at his brother for picking on the wrong person. Here’s a portion of his quote…

Obviously Logan Paul is extremely biased here, but there are certainly a few things that could be said about his point. First, Floyd Mayweather’s success in boxing is largely due to how quick he is and how great his instincts are. It is really, really hard to hit him. As such, his game plan is almost always to tire out his opponent, avoid getting hit and take over and really dominate in the later rounds. Because of that, his highlight reel isn’t really filled with a lot of scary knockouts. He just outboxes people, and Paul feels because he’s 43 and doesn’t regularly box anymore, the worst case scenario isn’t that bad.

Conor McGregor, on the other hand, is one of the most dangerous strikers in the history of the UFC. Some of his knockouts are legendary, and he has really hurt people in the ring. He’s also significantly younger than Mayweather, and he seems to take things very personally. So, to Logan Paul, the potential downside to stepping in the ring with McGregor is way worse because there could be potential for a serious injury.

All of that is absolutely true. To a certain extent, I agree with his points, but at the same time, Floyd Mayweather is one of the greatest boxers in history, and he easily defeated Conor McGregor a few years ago. It’s unclear if he was even fully trying during that match; so, it’s completely fair to wonder how Logan Paul could possibly survive multiple rounds.

Over the last several years, the Paul Brothers have proven very good at both generating controversy and making money. The publicity, good, bad or terrible, they are able to generate is incredible. Jake Paul’s recent knockout of ex-NBA player Nate Robinson was the leading topic of conversation on Twitter for hours, and the PPV money poured in. It’s hard to imagine Logan Paul and Mayweather won’t put up huge numbers too, though he allegedly won’t see as much of it as Floyd.

I highly doubt the McGregor/ Paul fight will ever happen. UFC promoter Dana White doesn’t want it, but if Logan Paul is to be believed, that’s a good thing for his brother’s health. We'll see how this plays out moving forward, but if history is any indication, Jake Paul probably isn't going to keep his opinions and his taunts to himself no matter who they're about.

Jake Paul bested NBA vet Nate Robinson in the ring just a few weeks ago, but the YouTube personality has already set his sights on another fight, one that would match up Paul with UFC star Conor McGregor. As crazy as it sounds, Paul really appears to be committing himself to going toe to toe with the former UFC champion. And of course, he’s already begun trash talking his potential opponent and has even called out UFC President Dana White. Following some particularly strong comments from Paul, White has now shared a blunt response of his own.

Jake Paul recently released a very explicit message to both Conor McGregor and Dana White, in which he called out the pair for not working to get a fight together. Paul also asserts that his team sent McGregor an offer worth $50 million and went on to chastise the UFC fighter for seemingly not wanting to take the fight:

That’s certainly one way to get a message across and, as you would imagine, Dana White received the message loud and clear. And the UFC President had a fairly simple response to Paul:

It looks like Dana White has presented Jake Paul with a bit of a counteroffer. UFC fans surely know Amanda Nunes has quite a reputation in the world of mixed martial arts. Nunes is the reigning champion of both the women’s bantamweight and featherweight divisions, and she’s only the third UFC fighter in history to hold titles in two divisions simultaneously. The other two fighters to hold this distinction are Daniel Cormier and Conor McGregor.

If I’m being completely honest, a fight between Jake Paul and Amanda Nunes, while highly unlikely, would be a sight to see. Though, of course, Dana White only seemed to be joking about the prospect.

Both Jake Paul and his brother, Logan, definitely go after what they want, no matter how “unconventional” their methods of doing so may be. It remains to be seen if Dana White and Conor McGregor will actually move forward with the potential fight. But it can’t be denied that the combination of Paul’s cash offer and the potential PPV earnings could make this a very big payday for both White and McGregor.

He won his first professional boxing match in the first round in early 2020, and recently defeated former NBA star Nate Robinson in two rounds. Now, Paul has set his sights even higher: UFC champion Conor McGregor. Paul apparently wasn't kidding when he started trash talking McGregor after soundly defeating Robinson!

While the prospect of a YouTube star going up against a UFC champ may have sounded outlandish a year ago, Jake Paul has generated a lot of buzz for his performances in the boxing ring. Already a divisive figure, his victory against Nate Robinson was the talk of Twitter after the second round TKO. Speaking with ESPN, Paul confirmed that his comments about facing off against Conor McGregor were sincere, saying:

Jake Paul "dedicating" his life to beating Conor McGregor seemingly has more to do with how financially lucrative the fight could be than any real point of boxing pride, but he definitely seems to think that defeating McGregor is in his future. While it's a big boast to call himself one of the "biggest prizefighters" after only two professional matches, there's no denying that he's among the most-talked about.

The amount of buzz that Jake Paul's fights generate isn't altogether surprising. He packs more than 20 million subscribers on YouTube, 14 million followers on Instagram, and 3.7 million followers on Twitter. He even makes the news whenever his polarizing brother Logan Paul gets people talking, which is often for a controversial reason. Still, Jake Paul is seemingly not confident that he's already prepared to fight Conor McGregor. Paul said:

Jake Paul doesn't see Conor McGregor as the next opponent to face in the boxing ring, but apparently more as the endgame boss in a video game. Although Paul didn't name a complete list of fighters he wants to go up against before taking on McGregor, he has so far mentioned UFC stars Jorge Masvidal and Ben Askren as well as McGregor, and Brazilian jiu-jitsu champion Dillon Danis. He also shared that he truly believes that he "will become the biggest prizefighter in the world and the highest-paid prizefighter in the world."

Let it not be said that Jake Paul doesn't have ambition! For now, fans can only wait and see who Paul officially lands as his next professional opponent. It's possible that more will be looking to take a swing at him after he knocked out Nate Robinson, but only time will tell. 2020 has been a fairly interesting year for Jake Paul. This past summer saw the YouTube star go viral through a video that showed him looting during a protest fueled by the death of George Floyd. This incident would later lead to his home being raided by the FBI. Following these two events, Paul has spent the last few months hyping up his boxing match with NBA vet Nate Robinson, and the YouTube star would come out as the victor, beating Robinson by knock out in the second round. With this, Paul is now setting his sights on a match with UFC star Conor McGregor, and the trash talk has already begun.

While a fight between the 23-year-old Jake Paul and the 32-year-old Conor McGregor isn’t a sure thing just yet, but he did confirm to TMZ Sports that his team has had conversations with McGregor’s manager. And in typical Logan Paul fashion, he’s already getting ready for the potential battle by dishing out a few verbal jabs:

Paul would then state his belief that a fight between him and McGregor will indeed happen. And based on his bold comments, it seems that he really likes his odds of taking the W:

If I’m not mistaken, those sound like fighting words. Jake Paul has never been one to pass up a challenge and, following his victory against Nate Robinson, he’s riding high.

These celebrity-headlined fights are only growing in popularity, and many promoters appear to be finding ways to capitalize on the hype surrounding them. For instance, shortly after his loss to Paul, Nate Robinson has already been offered an opportunity to return to the ring. And the deal, which comes from Fight Circus, would put quite a bit of change in the athlete’s pocket.

As of this writing, Conor McGregor has not publicly acknowledged Jake Paul’s comments but knowing McGregor, it’s only a matter of time before he hits back with some trash talk of his own. Any fight between the two is sure to be nuts, though it’ll honestly be hard to look away when it actually happens.

While Michael Jordan has made it clear he would like to continue making Creed movies, at this point we have no idea what form such a sequel could take. Who would be the new opponent for Adonis Creed? It seems that now the only thing we can guess right now is that it probably won't be MMA star Conor McGregor. Michael B. Jordan was recently asked what he thought of the idea of bringing in McGregor for Creed III and the actor seemed less than thrilled with the concept, saying...

The idea of Conor McGregor making the jump from the octagon to the silver screen has come up before. He was apparently in talks to star in The Predator at some point, though director Shane Black insists he was never actually offered the lead.

It seems like only a matter of time before the MMA fighter parlays his celebrity into something that doesn't include as many shots to the nose. Most recently McGregor has said that he's done with MMA, so if he wanted to try his hand at movies, now is as good a time as any.

However, one assumes that Michael B. Jordan is a guy who largely gets to determine his own fate in the Creed franchise so if he's not sold on the idea, it's unlikely to happen. Since his comment to TMZ is far from excited, perhaps the next movie should look elsewhere for an idea.

Following the success of Creed II many have suggested that a future Creed film could bring back other previous Rocky opponents as Creed II did with Ivan Drago. The suggestion that Rocky III's Clubber Lang, as played by Mr. T, could return has been made, but it's far from certain that a future sequel would go back to the well like that once again.

With Sylvester Stallone indicating that he's done playing Rocky Balboa after Creed II, it would seem to make a lot more sense for Creed III to go off in a new direction and find a more original opponent. There's certainly the opportunity to tell more of Adonis Creed's story, but how he moves on without his mentor and surrogate father seems like the most interesting way to do it.

Of course, I'm not sure anybody has asked Conor McGregor if he's like to co-star in Creed III and if he does, it's always possible something could be worked out. If there's a good enough story anything is possible.

Creed II out grossed the first film in the franchise, which would seem to make a third entry a pretty strong possibility considering all the creative forces are also interested in returning to the series.

Following a violent bus attack at Barclays Center, UFC fighter Conor McGregor has surrendered himself over to the authorities. The competitive athlete is charged with three counts of misdemeanor assault and one count of felony criminal mischief. Multiple people were reported injured in this attack.

As TMZ reports, the police were looking to speak to Connor McGregor after he threw a dolly on a bus in Brooklyn, NY that carried several UFC fighters and staffers. Many people were injured in McGregor's attack, including fellow fighter Michael Chiesa, who was hospitalized with lacerations to the face. Chiesa is one of the charges held against McGregor. Another comes from someone who claims that McGregor punched them in the face several times. The criminal mischief charge, meanwhile, is directed towards damages to the bus and amounts to $8,000 in damages. There's also a video of the incident, which shows McGregor attacking the people, so there's no real defense for McGregor. Perhaps it's for this reason why he turned himself over to the police.

Conor McGregor is in all kinds of trouble at the moment. And it's unclear how it's going to affect his fighting career, but things don't look good at the moment. In addition to the criminal charges labeled against him, there's a solid chance that several people involved in the incident will sue McGregor. Shortly after the troubling incident took place, the UFC released the following statement about McGregor and his criminal charges.

Conor McGregor has a history of misbehaving antics, though this one could end up being his most serious to date. As far as why McGregor acted out so violently, it is suggested that McGregor allegedly was outraged with UFC President Dana White. He reportedly revealed that an upcoming fight between Max Holloway and Khabib Nurmagomedov would determine the new UFC lightweight championship, with no qualifier in front of the title. It would seem that McGregor was concerned with the idea of the UFC potentially stripping him of his 2016 title. McGregor won it that year, but he took a step away from the UFC last year in order to train for his much-hyped boxing match with Floyd Mayweather. McGregor lost that match to Mayweather.

It's safe to say that Conor McGregor's career is more than in jeopardy at the moment. If recent reports are to be believed, it might be the end of his career. But nothing is official yet. We'll keep you posted on the latest updates on McGregor's dour situation. But yeah, this is definitely not a great look.

Over the weekend, one of the biggest sporting events in the world took place, and I'm not talking about the NFL preseason game between the L.A. Chargers and the L.A. Rams. The pay-per-view boxing bout between undefeated champ Floyd Mayweather and UFC champ Conor McGregor raked in a truckload of money for all involved, but it also raked in a ton of complaints about delays and outages due to so many people attempting to watch the fight at once. As such, Showtime Networks announced that it will give full refunds to customers verified to have been unable to watch.

This was apparently a case where over-saturation and ill-equipped tech worked against everyone, and some Showtime users faced delays that pushed the telecast's start time back ten minutes or more. It was apparently worse for some customers than others, and it's those most unfortunate fans that Showtime will look at case by case to see if the full $99.99 refund will be deemed necessary. For what it's worth, according to Variety, Showtime's senior VP of Communications Chris DeBlasio claimed there were a "very limited number of complaints overall," so perhaps the network won't need to deal with too many full refunds.

It's not a "catch," exactly, but it should be known that the $99.99 refunds will apparently only be considered by Showtime Networks if viewers went through the specific direct-to-customer services. That means not-so-great news for anyone who purchased the fight through UFC Fight Pass and was eventually directed to Showtime's website following the Fight Pass site outage. Showtime made it clear that for cases like that, along with anyone who first purchased the fight through any other cable or satellite providers, refund requests must me made specifically with those companies.

Some have gone public with claims that UFC denied them refunds, and the company has yet to make any official stance on the matter at the time of this writing. Meanwhile, one pissed-off customer filed a lawsuit in Portland, Oregon against Showtime, aiming to make it a class-action suit to include others who also felt they got far less than their money's worth with the fight.

Those who did get to watch Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor go gloves-to-gloves got to see a fight that, in some ways, stood up to what fans were actually hoping for, in that it actually lasted 10 rounds and wasn't just an hour of dancing. Though McGregor eventually lost by TKO in Round 10, and looked particularly bereft of energy when it was finished, he actually fared better than many of Mayweather's recent opponents on the stat sheets, including Manny Pacquiao.

While the fight itself may not have been one for the ages, the mass amount of attention devoted to the crossover match was definitely notable. The fight was even shown in movie theaters for those unwilling to drop the dough for the home-viewing; as well as for those theaters to get a piece of the profits themselves. And much focus has been placed on how much money the athletes themselves made, with Floyd Mayweather reportedly earning $100 million, with Conor McGregor pocketing something around $30 million.

We're not going to get another fight like Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor any time soon -- especially since the undefeated boxer announced he was hanging up his gloves -- but there will always been more boxing and UFC events to dive into in the future, complete with incessant shit-talking and grandstanding. This week the writers took shots at cultural icon and UFC champion fighter Conor McGregor, who is set to have a big fight with Boxing legend Floyd Mayweather tonight, and it was hilarious. While he could have just dropped a dozen f-bombs and likely gotten the same reaction, Alex Moffat instead opted for the Irish stereotype approach, which definitely got some laughs from the Weekend Update: Summer Edition crowd. Conor McGregor is such a bizarre and larger than life personality it might be hard to portray him perhaps more accurately and seem any crazier than he appears to be in public, so it's understandable why the Saturday Night Live staff went the direction they did. To his credit, Moffat did shave down the sides of his hair a little more than he has in the past to better sell the impersonation, so one might hope McGregor acknowledges and respects his commitment should he have any ill will towards the comedian following the on-air mockery.

Although in Alex Moffat and Weekend Update: Summer Edition's defense, it's not as though the Saturday Night Live staff said anything different than what the general public has said about Conor McGregor and this fight. While McGregor is an incredibly skilled UFC fighter and boxer, Floyd Mayweather is one of the greatest boxers of all time. Many experts agree that McGregor would make short work of Mayweather in an MMA fight, but there aren't many willing to bet on him in a boxing ring.

Not that the opinion of experts ultimately matters though, as Alex Moffat also mentioned during this Weekend Update: Summer Edition parody that Conor McGregor is set to walk away with a healthy sum of money for participating in the fight. Current numbers are unknown, but the Nevada Gaming Commission has stated that at the very least Conor McGregor will walk out of that fight win or lose with $30 million. For that type of money, who wouldn't step into a ring to let the world witness them fight, even if they know the odds are stacked heavily against them?

The main fight between Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather is scheduled for tonight at 9 p.m. ET on ShowTime PPV. As for Weekend Update: Summer Edition, the spin off show will have its final episode August 31st at 9 p.m. ET on NBC. While it's sad the spin off show's well-received run will come to an end, Weekend Update will return in the next season of Saturday Night Live, which is undoubtedly just around the corner. The world of movies is full of fantastic boxing rivalries. With that in mind, Fathom Events has officially announced ticket sales (costing $40 a pop) for the landmark boxing match that will see the UFC Champion go up against the undefeated world boxing champion on August 26. Boxing is already one of the most cinematic sports out there, and it looks like that idea is about to go to the next level.

As for availability of locations, there's certainly no shortage of theaters showing the major sporting event. In fact, most major cities between Los Angeles and New York have tickets available. If you happen to have a screening near you, then this is likely an event that you won't want to miss when the punches finally start to fly.

With regards to pricing, seeing the fight in a theater could potentially be a steal -- depending on how many people you plan on watching with. By comparison, a $40 ticket for the silver screen showing doesn't seem so bad.

We've got a new Predator coming and it's been filling out its cast with some really interesting and exciting choices (hey there Keegan-Michael Key). One of those choices was rumored to be UFC fighter, Conor McGregor, who claimed he was offered the lead role in the movie, but turned it down due to the shooting schedule and pay issues. Director Shane Black is now stepping in to clear things up about the role McGregor was offered. According to Black, McGregor was indeed offered a part, but it wasn't the lead of the film.

Shane Black took to Twitter to clear up the rumors surrounding Conor McGregor's involvement with The Predator. Previously, the UFC fighter said in an interview that he was offered the lead role in The Predator, but that he turned it down. Aside from the fact that he wanted more money for the part, the shoot would have spent eight weeks in Canada. McGregor wasn't willing to commit the time, in large part due to his girlfriend being in the later stages of pregnancy. Still, hane SBlack wanted to clear things up and say that while McGregor was offered a role, it wasn't the lead role. That part belongs to Boyd Holbrook.

While this distinction might seem out of nowhere, Shane Black and company likely didn't want people thinking there isn't a lead character attached yet. Or it could be that if Boyd Holbrook is the lead, why let people think that the role is going to someone else? The lead role was offered to (and declined by) Ben Affleck, Tom Hardy, and Benicio Del Toro before Holbrook accepted, so they don't really need any more press swimming around the lead character

There's still a lot we don't know about The Predator movie, but new details have slowly been unwrapped. The film will not be a reboot, but a sequel that acknowledges the events of previous movies in the franchise. It stars Boyd Holbrook (Logan), and in an example of exceptional casting, Trevante Rhodes (Moonlight), and Keegan-Michael Key (Keanu) as former marines who are up against the threat of multiple alien hunters. Sterling K. Brown and Olivia Munn round out the cast as a government agent and a scientist respectively. It's still unclear if Arnold Schwarzenegger will show up in some way or not.

Shane Black will put his excellent action sensibilities to use once again as director off of a script that he co-wrote with Frank Dekker. Considering the level of secrecy that some TV shows bring to their productions, casting announcements are always somewhat suspect when they come from anywhere outside the networks and stars. Game of Thrones gets this kind of thing all the time, but it seemed like there was indeed some legitimacy to the claims that UFC Lightweight Champion Conor McGregor would be involved in Season 7 of the HBO epic. But McGregor himself says there wasn't any merit to the rumors, although he was asked. Here's his epic take on the widespread rumor:

I can think of few things that Connor McGregor wouldn't be good at putting to words, and his take on being offered a role on Game of Thrones is golden. I can't imagine how many people in the world right now would absolutely melt into a blissful puddle if someone requested their appearance on this ratings juggernaut, even if it was merely to play Warrior #17 for a battle scene shot in the distance. Work like that isn't up McGregor's alley, apparently, although I would love to see him take on The Mountain for however many rounds it would last.

To his credit, UFC's brass were attempting to give Conor McGregor a shot at premium cable fame at the worst possible time, and it's strange that no one latched onto that before going through with it. This dude just went through all manner of hell in taking on a rival fighter for the full five rounds, and that's when it was deemed an optimal time to discuss his future in scripted programming? I'm sure the only questions he wanted to hear were about his belt, some booze and pain remedies.

Of course, one has to wonder if things did indeed play out exactly like he said in this Q&A, as captured by Good Times Network. Because even though the initial talk about Conor McGregor heading to Westeros came from media sources, the rumor was later seemingly confirmed when Dana White himself said it was legit, and that he couldn't wait for it. So either he thought something was going to get worked out between Game of Thrones' creators and McGregor on the side, or he was just delusional about all of it. Or McGregor himself wasn't being so honest. However it actually happened, the end is the same: a Season 7 without an additional fiery redhead kicking ass in it.

An athlete taking on roles in major movies is nothing new. Dwayne Johnson memorably got his start in the world of wrestling, Jason Statham was an Olympic diver and world-class kickboxer, and even LeBron James has slowly but surely proven himself as a strong comedic presence (in one movie, anyway). One athlete who now has the pick of the litter for roles is none other than UFC's Conor McGregor---who is currently slated to appear on Game of Thrones this year and even got naked on a horse for a recent Pegasus World Cup commercial. Now it seems that he was actually up for a role in Shane Black's The Predator, but turned it down when the money and time commitment didn't suit the needs of his personal life. The fighter explained:

During a recent interview with An Experience With (via AvPGalaxy), McGregor finally explained why he decided not to take the lead role in The Predator. Although it would seem like an excellent career opportunity for the MMA fighter, spending eight weeks in Canada didn't seem very appealing -- particularly with his girlfriend currently in the later stages of pregnancy. Conor McGregor has experienced a massive influx of job opportunities in recent months but seems only willing to accept the ones that will allow him to continue focusing on his current lifestyle.

I would like to reiterate the fact that Conor McGregor was paid a good sum of money to get naked on a horse for three days, so going to Canda for eight weeks very clearly doesn't appeal to him when the money isn't good enough. I can't say that I blame him.

Conor McGregor isn't the only big name that has turned down a role in The Predator in recent months. In addition to the MMA star, the film reportedly also failed to lock down other well-known actors like Ben Affleck, Tom Hardy, and Benicio Del Toro. Apparently, once you've acted in a Batman movie, you just have no interest in Predator stories. That said, the film has managed to sign some seriously engaging performers in recent months, such as Olivia Munn, Boyd Holbrook, Sterling K. Brown, Jacob Tremblay, and Keegan-Michael Key.

Those recently announced cast members make it very clear that The Predator is going for a very different ensemble than the musclebound heroes of the 1987 original, so maybe it's for the best that Conor McGregor isn't involved. We will have to wait and see.

Following his momentous knockout victory at UFC 194 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, Conor McGregor has been awarded with the prestigious honor (or possible curse, depending on who you ask) of ending up on the cover of Electronic Arts' EA Sports UFC 2.

The moment was made official following the fight, as EA posted up the official cover with Ronda Rousey and the newly crowned bantamweight champion Conor McGregor on their Twitter feed.

The feed was filled with some interesting responses from the gaming and MMA crowd, including a few people asking why EA opted to have Ronda Rousey on the cover instead of the undefeated Holly Holm.

Others mocked EA for what some consider to be the “Madden curse” that's now turned into the “EA curse”, as a few people stated that McGregor was either going to be cursed and they yelled at EA that “no one wants your curse”.

These aren't hollow words given that recently McGregor came off a striking win (literally) on his opponent Jose Aldo and some people are already worried that the cover could jinx McGregor's hot streak the way they superstitiously believed that the cover announcement for Rousey jinxed her fight against Holm.

Originally it was announced by Electronic Arts that whoever came out the winner of the match between Aldo and McGregor at UFC 194 would be awarded the honor of starring on the cover of EA Sports UFC 2 behind Ronda Rousey. McGregor took home a victory in a record 13 seconds, knocking out Aldo with just a single punch, and downing him for the win.

Those exact kind of flash knockouts are completely possible in EA Sports UFC. We've seen it happen plenty of times with the commentary going wild and the crowd erupting in excitement.

The game is filled with a lot of those possibilities and they plan on expanding that in the sequel. There were some complaints about learning and mastering the controls in the original EA Sports UFC, but it had its own gimmick where once you learned how the fighting and submissions worked it was not only very intuitive but also extremely satisfying once you locked in a submission and made an opponent tap.

The other neat thing about the game is that both submissions and striking were put on equal footing. It was just as easy to take an opponent down and lock on a submission hold as it was to step in and do a hard hitting uppercut to knock them out at the beginning of the round.

With the sequel to EA Sports UFC hopefully we'll see further refinement on the fighting and even more options and highlight reel moments. The game is scheduled to release in the spring of 2016 for the Xbox One and PS4. Sadly no PC release is in sight. Gamers can look forward to picking up a physical copy with both “Rowdy” Ronda Rousey and Conor McGregor on the cover.

“Rowdy” Ronda Rousey won't be the sole fighter on the cover of EA Sports UFC 2, the previously undefeated fighter will be accompanied by either Jose Aldo or Irish fighter Conor McGregor following their face off at the upcoming UFC 194 on December 12th.

Over on the official EA website they unleashed a press release indicating that EA Sports UFC 2's second cover athlete would be determined by a fight. They aren't just randomly picking fighters to star on the cover.

The choice boils down between Jose Aldo and Conor McGregor. The two will face off against one another on December 12th and the winner will be the one to stand behind the “Rowdy” one on the cover of the upcoming sequel to EA Sports UFC.

Jamie McKinlay, VP of marketing at EA Sports, commented in the press release about the new method they're using to pick the cover athlete for EA Sports UFC 2, stating...

Next to Ronda Rousey, Conor McGregor is probably one of the only few UFC stars regularly talked about. He's been making a name for himself with his outlandish antics and strangely eloquent sense of style. The featherweight championship will be on the line at UFC 194 and Dana White is looking to make big bank on the fight between McGregor and Aldo.

This news probably looks like EA backing away from Rousey after she suffered a devastating defeat at the hands of the undefeated former boxing champion and kickboxing extraordinaire Holly Holm. The two went at it where Rousey took the loss at UFC 193 thanks to a well placed left roundhouse kick to the head by Holm.

However, EA is walking back Rousey's cover spot on the EA Sports UFC sequel, they're just adding another character behind her is all. Some have also felt as if this was the curse of the EA cover coming to bite Rousey the way it has for many NFL stars who have taken the cover spot on EA's popular Madden NFL series.

The only thing about it this time around is that if McGregor loses could anyone actually blame it on the EA cover slot since he's not guaranteed to be on it? And if McGregor wins and does make the cover does that mean he may lose the next fight after that?

The Irishman only has two losses on his record so it will be interesting to see how this all pans out and if the curse of the EA cover affects the Dublin native.

On the upside for Rousey she's at least getting an opportunity at redemption via a rematch with Holm, so maybe she can work some magic against that fateful EA curse that has plagued many athletes in the past.

EA Sports UFC 2 is due for release this upcoming spring in 2016 for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
