More than two decades after the end of Will & Grace’s original run (and over six years after its revival ended), the show remains one of most popular shows in NBC history. David Kohan and Max Mutchnick’s Emmy-winning sitcom has been lauded for its writing, directing and depiction of LGBTQ+ characters and culture. Of course, a lot of credit should also go to the show’s cast, who remain close to this day. On that note, several of the principal actors recently reunited but unfortunately did so for a reason that has me feeling emotional.

The entertainment industry and the TV-viewing world as a whole recently bid farewell to James Burrows, the iconic director and producer known for his extensive work on multi-camera sitcoms. Will & Grace stands as one of Burrows’ biggest credits, as he directed all 246 episodes throughout the series’ run. Following his passing, Will Truman actor Eric McCormack paid tribute to Burrows and, during an interview with Us Weekly, the Emmy winner spoke about being with two of his co-stars at Burrows’ funeral:

On the show, Debra Messing notably played Grace Alder, the best friend to McCormack’s Will, and Sean Hayes played their good pal and confidante, Jack MacFarland. Also part of that ensemble was Megan Mullaley, who played Grace’s uber wealthy and wise-cracking assistant, Karen Walker. Rounding out the cast was the late Shelley Morrison, who portrayed Karen’s maid, Rosario Salazar.

It’s bittersweet that McCormack, Messing and Hayes reunited under such somber circumstances. Still, I love that they came together to show love to the man who would indeed bring them together week after week amid tapings. It also doesn’t surprise me at all that the cast would attend Burrows’ funeral and pay tribute to him on social media. Several years ago, Hayes, Mullaley, McCormack and Messing all honored Morrison after her passing. McCormack also shared this sweet Instagram post about Burrows’ funeral:

Few creatives can match a body of work like that of James Burrows, who died at 85 after a brief illness. A winner of 11 Emmy Awards, Burrows directed for some of the most beloved sitcoms of all time, including The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Taxi, The Bob Newhart Show, Friends and Mike & Molly. Burrows also co-created Cheers, on which he directed, and helmed episodes of the show’s spinoff series, Frasier, as well. Additionally, he directed a host of pilots including the inaugural episodes of The Big Bang Theory and Two and a Half Men.

As a lover of multi-camera sitcoms myself, I still find Burrows’ death to be a somewhat hard pill to swallow. What warms my heart, though, is the sight of so many of his collaborators, including Jennifer Aniston, Danny DeVito and many more, paying tribute to him after his passing. To me, Eric McCormack’s remembrance and reunion with his castmates at Burrows’ homegoing furthers the notion that Burrows – both as a man and as a director – will not be forgotten.

Over the past few years, there’s been a ton of discussion about the importance of representation in the media. Hollywood does seem to be making positive change in this regard, and there have been a number of mainstream projects released this year telling queer stories. Next up is Billy Eichner’s romantic comedy Bros, which has been getting a ton of love from critics. And actor Jim Rash recently revealed what it was like filming Debra Messing’s wild cameo in the movie.

Prior to its road to theaters, Bros made headlines for a starring cast entirely made up of LGTBQ actors. But there’s also a few cameos from famous allies like Kristin Chenoweth and Will & Grace icon Debra Messing. As you can see in the video above, I had the chance to speak with the rom-com’s cast ahead of its release. I spoke to Jim Rash about Messing’s role, where he said:

The one and only Debra Messing pops up about midway through the runtime of Bros, in a delightful manner. She plays herself, who is approached by Billy Eichner’s Bobby and his team (including Jim Rash’s Robert) about their queer history museum. But since he’s having relationship issues with Aaron (played by Hallmark favorite Luke Macfarlane), he soon ends up dumping all of his personal problems on the Emmy winning actress. And unsurprisingly, hilarity ensues. It’s a scene that feels like a classic and cringe-worthy, just like countless other Judd Apatow comedies of the past.

Later in our same conversation, Jim Rash further spoke about Debra Messing’s role in Bros, which will surely delight the generations of Will & Grace fans out there (myself included– see my review here). Messing pokes fun at herself and her legacy in the process, which Rash assumed was fun for the 54 year-old icon. As he explained,

Debra Messing’s name was attached to Bros early on, but it was unclear what role she’d be playing. But she actually plays a fictional version of herself, to bonkers results. The scene perfectly fits with the overall themes of the romantic comedy, and Billy Eichner’s screenplay which lovingly pokes fun at the LGBTQ+ community. And it’s just one of the countless laugh out moments from the new R-rated comedy.

Movie musicals have been around for decades, and the genre has been experiencing a bit of a renaissance. 2021 was chock-full of these projects, with beloved stage productions being adapted for film. Netflix got in on the fun projects like The Prom and Lin-Manuel Miranda's Tick, Tick...BOOM!, and now that trend is continuing. And the first trailer for 13: The Musical adds Debra Messing and Rhea Perlman to the Broadway musical. 

13 opened on Broadway back in 2008, and had a limited but impactful run on the Great White Way. In fact, that's what made Ariana Grande into a star, and helped her book her gig on Nickelodeon. Now a movie version is coming, with the above trailer revealing the first footage of the adaptation hitting Netflix. And 13: The Musical is making some big changes to Jason Robert Brown's source material. 

The above trailer opens on our protagonist Evan, played by Eli Golden. He's a New York City kid set on planning the best Bar Mitzvah possible when his parents suddenly split and he moves to Indiana with his mother (Debra Messing). Evan has to make new friends and plan his party, all while belting out killer tunes by Jason Robert Brown (The Last 5 Years, Songs For a New World).

While the cast of young talent are largely newcomers, there are some familiar faces helping to flesh out the cast. In addition to Debra Messing, we also see the always iconic Rhea Perlman as his Grandma Ruth. Additionally, Nickelodeon icon Josh Peck has a role as Evan's Rabbi. These are all brand new roles debuting for the first time in 13: The Musical's movie adaptation. On stage, there are no adults and both the cast and band are made up entirely of young talent. 

This change for 13: The Musical is obviously a big one, and it looks like the screenplay by Tony Winning playwright Robert Horn is going to deviate quite a bit from the stage show's script. But this is pretty standard practice for the genre, with Dear Evan Hansen droppings songs and the In the Heights movie changing song order and cutting a character completely. The upcoming Netflix movie musical is directed by Tamra Davis, who previously worked on projects like The Politician and High School Musical: The Musical: The Series.

At the time of writing this story, Ariana Grande hasn't yet reacted to the first trailer for 13: The Musical. Grande created the role of Charlotte in the original Broadway cast, while also covering the female lead Patrice. In the years since, Grande has kept in contact with Jason Robert Brown, even appearing in concerts with the acclaimed composer and putting out covers of his songs.

It’s become very common for celebrities to get themselves into (at least) a bit of trouble from time to time as they traverse the wildlands of social media. Unfortunately for former Will & Grace star Debra Messing, this happened to her recently after she wondered aloud on Twitter about the validity of Saturday Night Live giving a hosting gig to reality TV queen / fashion mogul Kim Kardashian. Folks wasted zero seconds in coming for the Emmy-winning actress, and now Messing has explained her criticism of Kardashian’s SNL gig with an apology.

It was about a month ago when Debra Messing decided to pose her question about Kim Kardashian hosting SNL to Twitter, noting that the Skims founder didn’t seem to have anything to promote, despite being “a cultural icon,” and asked fans to explain why she was chosen for the job. A lot of people thought Messing was trolling the former Mrs. West, and made it clear that they disagreed with her supposed shade. Messing appeared on the Tamron Hall Show recently, and when asked about the incident, said:

According to Messing, she was really just posing the question about Kardashian’s inaugural SNL hosting stint because it didn’t seem to make sense, because of what she knew about the history of the show’s hosts. Seeing as how Keeping Up with the Kardashians had ended not long before it was announced that she’d hit the famed 30 Rock stage, Messing is saying she simply assumed the producers had changed the way they did things, or that Kardashian had a project coming out soon that she was unaware of.

As you will probably know, Kardashian and the rest of her famous family does have a new show coming to Hulu, but that’s not due to begin airing until sometime after the new year. However, as fans pointed out to Messing on social media, many people have hosted SNL without being performers or having something new to promote. The show has been led by a number of athletes, politicians, and even business moguls like Elon Musk, whose appointment supposedly caused its own bit of trouble. And, Kardashian seemed to take her comments in stride, even poking fun at them in the promo for her appearance.

Messing continued to explain, and noted that she did tune in for Kardashian’s episode:

It’s good that Debra Messing has cleared the air about her Kim Kardashian commentary. Luckily, it didn’t seem to have a negative impact on the show or host, who got pretty good reviews for her first hosting gig, and helped Season 47 along in only its second week. If you're on Twitter as much as the average CinemaBlend writer, you may remember the online drama that emerged when Will and Grace star Debra Messing called out reality television star Kim Kardashian for taking a Saturday Night Live hosting gig. With Kim Kardashian’s SNL episode only a few days away, the reality star and social media mogul appeared in a series of promos to address whether or not she should actually be hosting the show. So, how does Kim Kardashian actually feel about the job?

After Debra Messing called out Kim Kardashian for taking an SNL hosting job without actual acting experience, many online fans were concerned about Kim K’s credentials. Would a reality star turned businesswoman have the comedic know-how to carry a full episode of sketches? If Kim Kardashian’s confidence in her SNL promo videos on is any indication, the SKIMS founder should be just fine. 

In a short series of promo videos for her episode, Kim Kardashian looked as poised and Instagram-ready as ever. Sporting a glistening salon blowout and what appeared to be a Balenciaga crushed velvet top (with, of course, gloves attached to the sleeves), she humorously brushed off Saturday Night Live star Cecily Strong’s concerns about nerves. 

"Kim K: Hi, Kim Kardashian West and I’m hosting SNL this week with Halsey.
Cecily Strong: So Kim, are you nervous about doing sketch comedy? 
Kim: Why? I don’t have to write sketches do I? 
Cecily: No. 
Kim: Memorize lines? 
Halsey: No, they’re on cue cards. 
Kim: Everyone else won’t look as good as me, will they? 
Cecily: No, absolutely not. 
Kim: This is so easy. 
Cecily: Yeah, well I guess it is. "

No writing, line-memorizing, or better-looking co-stars? This episode should be a breeze. By poking fun at her own lack of experience, Kim Kardashian proved she at least has a sense of humor. Sometimes, that’s all it takes.

In fact, plenty of non-actors have hosted Saturday Night Live, including athletes, politicians, and musicians. Some of them have even gone on to host multiple times, like former NBA star Charles Barkley. For all we know, Kim Kardashian could do so well that she becomes an SNL regular. At the very least, her appearance should generate some hilarious parodies of the Kardashian clan - fingers crossed for a redux of ‘Waking Up With Kimye’ with the actual Kim K. 

Kim Kardashian will host Saturday Night Live on October 9, 2021 at 11:30 pm EST. She’ll be joined by musical guest Halsey, who just released her fourth studio album If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power alongside an accompanying short film on HBO Max. Past episodes of Saturday Night Live are available to stream now on Hulu and Peacock. 

Say what you want about Kim Kardashian, but she definitely knows how to get people talking, and this time Debra Messing of Will & Grace is involved. Not too long after Keeping Up with the Kardashians wrapped, the longtime reality television icon landed a gig hosting an upcoming episode of Saturday Night Live, resulting in Messing calling out Kardashian and wondering why a reality star got the job. If you can see the flaw in Debra Messing’s logic, you’re not alone: Twitter couldn’t help but roast the former SMASH star.

To say that the Internet had some opinions when NBC announced that Kim Kardashian would host the second episode of the upcoming season of Saturday Night Live would be an understatement. Some users were thrilled, some were outraged, and some, like Debra Messing, were just plain confused. The Will & Grace star tweeted:

Debra Messing has an arguably valid point, but with changing times and the popularity of reality TV have come a shift in who SNL chooses as hosts. She asked if she was missing something, and some people on Twitter had a whole lot to say. One person noted Kardashian's importance to pop culture:

It’s true that hosts of classic SNL seasons have typically been actors, but a television personality is nothing new. Many celebrities with no performing experience have taken to the NBC stage. The list includes athletes like LeBron James, Lance Armstrong, and Derek Jeter, as well as multiple politicians, including Rudy Giuliani (regularly lampooned by Kate McKinnon in a bald cap) and Steve Forbes. Another person pointed out an SNL host who was arguably an even more bizarre fit for the show:

Compared to Elon Musk, Kim K looks like an Academy Award-winner. And at least she actually has television experience, as one user pointed out:

So if SNL has a long history of non-actor hosts, why was Debra Messing so confused? One Twitter user posits that the perplexity was a cover for the green-eyed monster:

It’s true that Debra Messing would probably make a great SNL host, but in the age of social media, Kim K’s 255 million Insta followers make her much more hashtag-worthy. It’s also worth mentioning that SNL regularly satirizes the Kardashian family on sketches like “Waking Up With Kimye” and “The Kim Kardashian Fairytale Divorce Special.” With Kim K herself as host, the show will almost definitely take the opportunity to poke a little fun at one of the most famous families in the world. One person may have summed it up best in a response to Messing:

The 47th season of Saturday Night Live will premiere on October 2 on NBC. Owen Wilson, fresh off of the inaugural season of Loki on Disney+, is set to host, and Grammy Award-winner Kacey Musgraves will serve as musical guest.

Will & Grace just wrapped its very successful three-season revival toward the end of April, but star Debra Messing is already moving on from her unexpectedly extended time as Grace Adler. Messing is now heading to premium cable for a half-hour comedy called East Wing, which will have an unusual setting: the White House in the 1980s.

Debra Messing has now signed on to executive produce and star in East Wing, a new Starz comedy that will feature Messing as Hollis Carlisle, who's serving as the Social Secretary in the White House during Ronald Reagan's time as the president in the 1980s. Hollis is an esteemed hostess, and if all she had to do was plan, coordinate and execute social events for the president her life would be golden. But, she's dealing with some major roadblocks in the form of her rebellious kids, a husband who's threatened by her status, Nancy Reagan's Chief of Staff and her own intense social anxiety disorder.

East Wing is created and written by Ali Wentworth (Jerry Maguire, In Living Color), who based the story on her own mother's time as the White House Social Secretary while Reagan was the president. Wentworth will also appear in the show, alongside Debra Messing and Liz Tuccillo (Sex and the City, Divorce), and play Kelly Forbes, a stay at home mom who is Hollis's best friend, but also jealous of her success. In addition to Messing, the comedy will also be executive produced by Wentworth, Tuccillo, Molly Madden, and Howard Klein.

I have to admit, I can already see Debra Messing sauntering around the White House in some awesomely bad 1980s fashions as her Hollis plans parties, battles with other presidential staffers and then has to escape to a broom closet to get away from all the people. It helps that Messing just spent time on Will & Grace again, because it does sound like Hollis and Grace will have some things in common, albeit with some deeper and potentially more long-standing issues for this new character to deal with.

While there is sure to be some '80s glamour and political intrigue to the proceedings on East Wing, I'm most interested to see how someone with a social anxiety disorder so bad that it's described as "crippling" in the show synopsis ended up doing anything as people-centric as planning parties and the like for a major head of state. Not to mention how Hollis is going to deal with the constant pressures of the job while juggling so many personal dilemmas.

Of course, it helps that Ali Wentworth has the inside scoop from going through this experience with her own mother. Wentworth had a small part on the final season of Will & Grace, so I wouldn't be surprised if she and Debra Messing talked about her idea months ago and decided they'd be a good fit to partner on the project. And, Starz has high hopes for the show, with Christina Davis, the network's President of Original Programming saying:

In 2005, Will & Grace ended its run. For the first time, at least. 12 years later, the popular NBC sitcom returned for its much-hyped revival. All its principle stars, including Eric McCormack and Debra Messing in the title roles, as well as Megan Mullally and Sean Hayes as their trusted on-screen friends, came back, as did many others involved with the show's original run. Alas, it wasn't meant to last. This month, Will & Grace reaches its end once more with its 11th season finale. Now that the sitcom comes to another close, the Will & Grace cast will, once again, move on to other projects. What they will do next? While there are questions still unanswered, we have a few ideas what these TV stars will be doing after this month's final bow.

Eric McCormack (Will Truman)

As Will Truman, a lawyer who lives in the Upper West Side with his best friend, Grace Adler, Eric McCormack served as one half of the title duo in Will & Grace. Prior to his role in Will & Grace, McCormack was seen in Giant Steps and Lonesome Dove: The Series. He has also appeared on Dead Like Me, Trust Me, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, The New Adventures of Old Christine, and Perception. He also worked on Netflix's Travelers (which he also helped direct) and Atypical as Will & Grace continued with its revival. Up next, McCormack is expected to star in the adventure film, Queen Bee.

Debra Messing (Grace Adler)

As Grace Adler, an interior designer who lives with Will Truman, her gay best friend, Debra Messing plays the other half of the title duo. As an actress, Messing was seen in shows like NYPD Blue and Ned and Stacey before she landed one of the lead roles in Will & Grace. Since the show's success, Messing has appeared in films like Hollywood Ending, The Wedding Date, Open Season, Lucky You, The Women, Searching, and Garfield: The Movie. Prior to Will & Grace's return to television, Messing also appeared on Smash, The Mysteries of Laura and a TV remake of Dirty Dancing. Next, Messing will be seen in the adventure dramedy The Dark Divide alongside David Cross and Jon Stewart's new movie, Irresistible, with Steve Carrell. Additionally, in the fall, Messing will star in the new Broadway production, Birthday Candles, with Andre Braugher and Enrico Colantoni.

Megan Mullally (Karen Walker)

As Karen Walker, Grace's rich assistant who constantly makes a presence throughout the program (even though her husband doesn't), Megan Mullally plays a memorable role on Will & Grace. As an actress, Mullally appeared in Seinfeld and Risky Business before she made a splash on Will & Grace. Since then, Mullally has appeared in The Megan Mullally Show, Bee Movie, The Kings of Summer, Hotel Transylvania 2, Why Him?, Parks and Recreation, 30 Rock, Children's Hospital, Boston Legal, and Where'd You Go Bernadette. In addition to Will & Grace, she can be heard on Bob's Burgers. Beyond her acting work, Mullally is also a musician. She's in the band Nancy & Beth with fellow actress Stephanie Hunt. She also co-wrote the 2018 book The Greatest Love Story Ever Told with her husband, Nick Offerman. Next, she lends her voice to the animated show, The Great North.

Sean Hayes (Jack McFarland)

As Jack McFarland, the struggling actor best friend of Will Truman who constantly bounces between jobs, Sean Hayes served as a scene-stealing cast member on the sitcom. The popularity of the program lead to Hayes getting roles in The Cat in the Hat, Cats & Dogs, The Bucket List, Sean Saves The World, The Three Stooges, and Monsters University, among other projects. In addition to his work on Will & Grace, Hayes can also be heard in Tangled: The Series. Most recently, Hayes co-wrote and starred in Lazy Susan, a new indie comedy which came out earlier this month. It's currently available on VOD. Outside of his acting work, Sean Hayes and his husband, Scott Icenogle, wrote a children's book called Plum, which was published in 2018. At the moment, Hayes doesn't have an upcoming projects announced yet, besides reports of a potential Three Stooges sequel.

Leslie Jordan (Beverley Leslie)

As the socialite frenemy of Karen Walker, Leslie Jordan plays a reoccurring role on Will & Grace and is periodically seen in the revival. A veteran actor of both the stage and screen with over a hundred credits to his name, Jordan remains a persistently hard-working actor. Some of the biggest titles to his name include, but aren't limited to, The Help, American Horror Story, Boston Legal, Ally McBeal, Jason Goes To Hell: The Final Friday, and more. Next, Jordan will be seen in the romantic film, Until We Meet Again, and the comedy, Strangers in a Strange Land. He's also making a series of funny videos.

Tim Bagley (Larry)

As Larry, a long-time friend of Will and Jack, Tim Bagley has made several appearances on Will & Grace, including in the newer seasons. An actor with several film and television credits to his name, including Monk, Grace and Frankie, Knocked Up, Web Therapy, Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story, The King of Queens, 7th Heaven, The Day After Tomorrow, Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me, This is 40, Curb Your Enthusiasm, and more, Bagley has popped up in a variety of different titles. He was most recently seen in Netflix's AJ and the Queen. Additionally, Bagley is a regular contributor to the LA alternative comedy scene, as it is noted on his website.

Blythe Danner (Marilyn Truman)

As Marilyn Truman, Will's mother and eventually Grace's stepmother, Blythe Danner has guest starred in several episodes of Will & Grace, new and old. The accomplished actress of both the stage and screen, Danner has starred in several movies and shows over the years, notably winning two Emmys for Huff and a Tony award for her performance in Butterflies Are Free. Recently, Danner appeared in last year's The Tomorrow Man and Strange But True. She will next be seen in Home Cookin: 5.17.18 and she'll also star in the third season of American Gods.

After more than 200 episodes on television, several accolades, and syndication spots, Will & Grace has decided to end once more. It should be noted that the original revival was only meant to last 10 episodes before it renewed a regular spot on NBC's nightly rotation. Alas, the time has come once more to say goodbye to Will & Grace. You can tune in to watch the series finale of Will & Grace when it airs on April 23rd on NBC. From there, it looks like some of the actors are keeping busy, while others are keeping themselves open. Will and Grace has had a fascinating tenure on the small screen. Counting both the revival and original run of the show, Will and Grace has run for a whopping 11 seasons on NBC. That's a seriously long, time especially including the years that the beloved comedy was off the air. So saying goodbye for a good is no doubt an emotional experience, as proven by the posts of the cast. Sean Hayes posted a photo of their final bow from the studio, saying:

And just like that, Sean Hayes must once again end his tenure as Jack McFarland. You can see the four starring actors together, bowing in unison as the 11th season wraps production. Hayes specifically thanks the generations of Will and Grace fans out there, claiming that the three recent seasons were "all for you." And he makes a good point, as NBC ordered new episodes of the Emmy-winning show after their short "Vote, Honey" hit Youtube, and got millions of views.

"Vote, Honey" proved that there was still an active interest in Will and Grace, and showed how easily the starring cast could slip back into their characters. A new season was ordered quickly after the video went viral. What's more, the second and third seasons of the revival were green lit early into the show's return to screens.

Sean Hayes isn't the only Will and Grace star who is reflecting on the show wrapping for the final time. Eric McCormack also posted about his last live-show as Will, check it out below.

How sweet is that? Eric McCormack is synonymous with his character Will Truman, a role that earned him an Emmy during its original run, and a slew of Golden Globe nominations during the revival. So leaving Will and Grace and his signature role behind is going to be an emotional experience. According to McCormack, he's "more than a little broken" about his tenure as the New York City lawyer coming to an end.

You can't have Will without Grace, and that was certainly the case regarding the goodbye message to the beloved comedy. Debra Messing shared her own goodbye post to Will and Grace fans. And hers includes a cake. Typical Grace.

Well, that's delightful. It looks like Debra Messing was given a custom cake to mark her departure from Will and Grace. As shared on the actress' personal Instagram page, Messing was given this special cake by one of her girlfriends. It shows Grace Adler on the phone during the original run, accompanied by the words "Bye, Bitches!" Messing has never been far from the TV, although her role in Will and Grace will likely remain the most iconic role she's had.

Will and Grace’s Shelley Morrison died of heart failure on Sunday, December 1, in Los Angeles. The actress, best known for playing the role of Rosario Salazar during the original run of the popular NBC series, was 83 years old. To be expected, Morrison’s Will and Grace co-stars shared some of their heartfelt reactions following news of her death.

Although Shelley Morrison did not reprise her role in the Will and Grace revival, due in part to medical issues, her former co-stars shared some sweet messages on social media. Megan Mullally, who played Rosario’s boss Karen Walker and who will miss some Will and Grace episodes herself, took to Twitter to share her sadness.

Will and Grace’s Eric McCormack also shared his condolences, posting a sweet message to Twitter about the actress and her performance as Rosario. Without Shelley Morrison, the original run of the show may not have been as funny.

Debra Messing, the titular Grace of the NBC hit, also paid tribute to Shelley Morrison, acknowledging her decades-long career and adding that she’ll always be remembered most as Will and Grace’s Rosario. In her Instagram post, Messing shared a brief clip of Morrison’s character. You can watch the video below.

Sean Hayes posted a nice photo of Shelley Morrison as Rosario to his Instagram, saying she was “absolutely hilarious” and had the “biggest heart.”

Shelley Morrison’s Rosario, a maid from El Salvador, was originally meant to appear in one episode of Will and Grace. However, the audience and writers liked her so much that her character stayed on for all eight seasons of the show, appearing in 68 episodes throughout the series.

In a statement (via The Washington Post), Shelley Morrison’s husband, Walter Dominguez, mentioned how much the actress loved getting to play Rosario on Will and Grace.

Prior to Will and Grace, Shelley Morrison played Sister Sixto on The Flying Nun. She appeared in 56 episodes from 1967-1970 alongside Sally Field. The actress appeared on several other TV shows, including L.A. Law, Murder, She Wrote, Love, Lies and Murder, My Name is Earl, Home Improvement, and Disney’s Handy Manny.

Three years after playing a huge role in jump-starting the current trend of TV revivals, NBC's influential hit sitcom Will & Grace is once again coming to an end. Thankfully, fans are getting one more season of hilarity, romance and tender emotions. While the detailed nitty-gritty reasoning behind Will & Grace's impending absence is likely complicated in ways that fans may not understand, it looks like the decision to end things was a mutual one amongst the cast and crew.

Will & Grace's stars took to social media after NBC broke the news about the upcoming season being the sitcom's last, and here's how Debra Messing explained things on Instagram.

The creative team behind ABC's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. recently announced that the decision to end that show was based on everyone's desire to bring the story to a conclusive end without worrying about suddenly getting cancelled. (ABC announced prior to Season 6's premiere that Season 7 was happening.) Sounds like that same thinking pattern was happening in the minds of creators Max Mutchnick and David Kohan.

Co-star Eric McCormack echoed those thoughts with his own post on Twitter, drawing attention to the idea that Will & Grace's final season will be one that ends exactly like everyone involved wants it to. In his words:

Fans have been quite happy with the two most recent seasons for Will & Grace's NBC revival. Ratings for Season 9 (or Season 1, depending) managed to rise slightly higher than the average totals for the sitcom's previously "final season" in 2005. The 2018-2019 season wasn't quite as kind, though, with the average viewership dropping from 8.8 million to 5.3 million, with Live + Same Day telecasts drawing around 3 million viewers as the season wore on.

Thursday nights aren't what they used to be on NBC, though, with CBS' comedy lineup taking centerstage on the night for the past decade and then some. It'll be interesting to see how Will & Grace's final season fares each week now that The Big Bang Theory is no longer around to anchor CBS' schedule.

The news of Will & Grace ending broke this week amidst a slew of other TV updates big and small, as the aftermath of San Diego Comic-Con gave way to the TCA summer press tour kicking into high gear. Expect even more big news coming from all the major networks soon, too.

With an episode called "Grace's Secret" that was partially centered on a lip-sync battle, Will & Grace's Debra Messing might've seemed destined to uncover some magnificent musical performance skills. That wasn't the case, but Messing's performance still shined the brightest in an emotional installment where Grace revealed to her father that she'd been sexually assaulted as a teenager by one of his friends.

Co-creator Max Mutchnick spoke about why Will & Grace tapped into the #MeToo movement with Grace's admission, saying:

Debra Messing herself is an activist for Time's Up, and the actress' care and compassion were easily witnessed on screen during "Grace's Secret," with guest star Robert Klein reprising the role of Martin Adler. When one thinks back to how Will & Grace's revival spawned from the politically motivated short that reunited the cast, an episode like this may have felt naturally imminent.

Impressively, the episode is about as far away from after-school special fodder as possible. For one, Grace's confession took place inside a restaurant and not in a more private setting, which not only made her appear slightly more vulnerable, but it also allowed for moments of levity involving that waitress and a lack of shrimp salad. Still, there was nothing light about Grace getting selflessly frank with her dad about what his friend Harry did to her.

Grace said that when she was 15 and working for Harry, she was called to his office, where he pushed her against a wall, started kissing her, and then took her pants off. Her description didn't exactly hold back on the details, which also raised it above the glut of "very special episodes" from the long history of sitcoms. That choice was deemed very necessary in order to avoid generalizations. Here's what Max Mutchnick told THR about it.

For all that Grace's big moment defined the episode, the co-creators were aware of not trying to "take over in this space," acknowledging that they and the show are not the movement's voices. But they definitely did listen to Debra Messing's voice during table reads for the ep, which was written by Suzanne Martin, to get her input on how Grace would bring these secrets out to her father.

According to co-creator David Kohan:

It's impossible to have watched that Will & Grace episode without making a connection to #MeToo-related news that has consistently been reported on since Bill Cosby and Harvey Weinstein's scandals rocked the entertainment industry. Arguably the biggest recent controversy involved current Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh, who gave testimony in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee in September, along with his central accuser Dr. Christine Blasey Ford.

Though the script for this Will & Grace episode was already penned before the aforementioned testimonies were voiced, David Kohen says that one exchange from Grace and Martin's conversation was written in later. In particular, it's the beat where Martin suggests that Grace was misremembering, to which his victimized daughter responds by saying she remembered everything that happened that day. For me, it was a stirring moment that justified the late inclusion.

Another lovely and subtly telling moment came later in the episode, when it was revealed that Debbie Reynolds' Bobbi was the only person that Grace had ever confided in about what Harry did to her. Grace visited Bobbi's grave during the episode as well, which was a touching reminder to the late actress' importance to the cast and crew. (We still miss you, Debbie!)

In the end, Grace didn't allow her secret to get buried with Bobbi, and also understood that it wasn't just Harry that she had unresolved issues with over her assault. She realized that Martin also needed to finally be aware of what happened, and that he needed to accept his friend's guilt.

At this point, it's unclear if Grace's big reveal will lead to anything further beyond the closure of her attacker already being dead (both in the show's world and to Martin Adler in particular). Or if that renewed pain will factor into any romantic relationships. But even if none of that happens, it was still a powerful episode, and one that will reaffirm Debra Messing's place among other Emmy-nominated actresses next year.

Stars John Cho and Debra Messing and writer/director Aneesh Chaganty talked all about the process of making Searching earlier this month during the Los Angeles press day for the film -- and it definitely doesn't sound like a real cakewalk, even for a seasoned performer. This is because the direct interaction between characters was cut off for most of production, as the actors not only typically inhabited sets by themselves, but also couldn't really see the other person to whom they were speaking.

In Searching, John Cho plays David Kim -- who has been losing touch with his teenage daughter, Margot (Michelle La), ever since her mother passed away. One night she says that she is going out to study with friends, but a horrific nightmare sets upon David when he realizes that she is not home the next morning and nobody knows where she is. Working with a police officer assigned to the case, Detective Vick (Debra Messing), he winds up becoming an extremely active part of the investigation, using his daughter's contacts and web history to try and find clues to the mystery. Unfortunately, what he also discovers is that Margot is definitely not the person he thought she was prior to her disappearance.

This is the kind of story we've seen play out many different ways in many different films, but Searching's approach puts unique spin on things. Thus far titles like Open Windows, Unfriended, and its recent sequel have explored the horror side of things, but Aneesh Chaganty's experiments with an interesting thriller and works. It clearly took a lot of work for the actors to get used to it, but they ultimately put on great turns, that feel entirely natural and feed right into the realism of the narrative presentation. You legitimately do not get the sense that they are basically acting into a webcam with a blank screen.

Following a successful premiere earlier this year down in Park City, Utah at the Sundance Film Festival, Searching will be getting a limited release this week, distributed by Screen Gems. Be on the lookout for the movie in a theater near you.

The first season of the Will & Grace revival was a huge hit, and now fans are eagerly anticipating what Season 2 has in store for Will, Grace, Jack, and Karen. Debra Messing has a major casting dream that she would love to come true regarding one of Grace's family members, and she decided to put into the universe, so to speak. The actress revealed who she would like to have play Grace's aunt. Messing said:

That's right, Barbra Streisand. How positively epic would that be? It seems entirely feasible as well. Streisand was a vocal guest star on Modern Family in 2016. So an in-the-flesh guest appearance would not be a far cry from what she has done in the not-so-distant past. Of course, playing Grace's aunt would hopefully be a bit more involved than a vocal cameo.

As Debra Messing mentions, Debbie Reynolds played Grace's mom on the series. Last year, Will & Grace honored the late actress and her character with the episode "One Job." Messing made the push for the episode. If the show ends up casting the role, you can probably count on Grace's aunt sharing a few stories that similarly pay homage to Grace's mom.

Here is hoping Barbra Streisand ends up making her Will & Grace debut. If there's one trend that is ruling both TV and film production, it's nostalgia. Audiences' need to return to a simpler time has resulted in a ton of long awaited sequels and reboots, to varying levels of success. "One Job" follows the Adler family (Grace, her sisters, and father) as they assemble to carry out Bobbi's dying wish: for them to celebrate her birthday. It figures that Grace's drama queen mother would still find a way to be the center of attention, even in the afterlife. This gave Will & Grace cast, crew, and fans to honor Debbie Reynolds, who suddenly passed away in 2016 after her daughter Carrie Fisher died just hours before.

Debra Messing's comments to THR show that she truly understands the weight of Debbie Reynolds' legacy in show business. Because while the world might have collectively mourned for Carrie Fisher and Leia Organa, her mother was bonafide Hollywood royalty.

Up until the most recent episode of Will & Grace, it was unclear exactly when or how Bobbi Adler died in the show's canon. She was revealed to have passed early in the new season, and a photo of Debbie Reynolds is shown in every episode. Rather than focusing on Bobbi's death, Will & Grace actually gave Rosario a proper funeral-- although actress Shelley Morrison is actually alive and well.

Almost a month has passed since Catt Sadler officially departed E! News due to a pay disparity between her and co-worker Jason Kennedy's salaries, and now the network is finally commenting on why Sadler was paid less. President of NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment, Frances Berwick, spoke to CinemaBlend and others in attendance at the TCA winter press tour and said Sadler and Kennedy's pay came down to different positions they held within the company:

Frances Berwick added that E! Network hadn't originally planned to offer comment following Sadler's original remarks, but when Debra Messing confronted E! about the issue during the network's broadcast coverage of the Golden Globes, the record needed to be set straight. Berwick added the past 48 hours following Messing's call out brought to the network's attention that perhaps E! should've been more forthcoming with details back when this story first surfaced. Furthermore, the network admitted that at face value, the situation didn't appear right. E! Entertainment president Adam Stotsky added that Sadler's situation appeared to tie-in with the frequently mentioned Time's Up movement, but that wasn't the case. Stotsky offered his support for the initiative but also stated the movement, and Sadler's situation are two different issues.

Adam Stotsky also mentioned that E! Network has a history of paying women quite well, and listed Giuliana Rancic, Maria Menounos, and the Kardashians as good examples of that. Stotsky maintained that all employees at E! are compensated fairly based on the value of their work, and that the pay disparity between Catt Sadler and Jason Kennedy had absolutely nothing to do with gender. Saddler, who had commented on similar claims made by Kennedy's wife prior to these comments to THR, said her frustration came from the fact the two were hired at the same time and did similar jobs. Kennedy's wife, Lauren Scruggs Kennedy, wrote in a blog post that her husband had dealt with past pay disparity having been paid less than two female co-workers in the past, meaning she felt Sadler's situation was not gender related.

As it turns out, even other actresses on the sitcom circuit weren't immune to the impact of The Rachel, as Will and Grace star Debra Messing has revealed that she once tried to pull off the hairdo, and... well, it didn't go as planned. The two shows were very different, but that didn't mean two actresses couldn't have the same hairstyle! Unfortunately for the hopefuls behind the scenes who wanted Grace to resemble Rachel, Debra Messing's naturally curly hair simply did not work with The Rachel haircut. Messing's comments to Refinery29 paint a picture of something Rachel Green would not have allowed on her own head.

Of course, Grace Adler's red hair came to be iconic in the series in its own way. It's difficult to imagine Grace with sleek chair chopped into The Rachel; the red curls work for her. Besides, it's clear that Will and Grace didn't need an actress with Jennifer Aniston's hair to be a hit in primetime. Will and Grace became a groundbreaking series during its original run on NBC, and its return to the small screen this fall has brought huge ratings for the Peacock Network, and it has already scored a renewal for a second revival season. Additionally, almost the entire original cast signed on for the revival, and the core four of Debra Messing, Eric McCormack, Megan Mullally, and Sean Hayes are all back in fine form.

Despite the premiere being extremely political and involving a trip to the White House, Will and Grace opened to some giant numbers when it debuted its new season last Thursday. While the numbers for live viewers were already serious, the episode became even more popular through on demand views in the three days following its release. In that time, the viewership increased by 53% for 18-49 viewers. This took the ratings from 3.00 to 4.60, and pushed its overall viewers from 10.2 million to 14.8 million. I guess the sitcom genre isn't dead, after all.

The Live+ 3 day numbers for Will and Grace are a major win for NBC, especially considering its somewhat tumultuous history with network comedies. In fact, this new episode is the network's biggest premiere in six years- just beating out the Season 8 premiere of The Office. And it's the overall audience is the largest that NBC has seen for a comedy in 12 years, since My Name Is Earl in 2005. Considering that NBC has had some problems with cancelling new comedies, it's safe to say that the new episodes Will and Grace aren't going anywhere.

NBC seemed to be expecting a major turnout, as the cast of Will and Grace has been furiously doing press for the show's new season. And the network actually renewed the comedy for a second season before the premiere even aired. Star Debra Messing has revealed the original table read was so successful that NBC ordered another new season right on the spot.

It should be interesting to see if Will and Grace can retain this high viewership as its new season continues on. The premiere episode likely polarized some viewers, as it lobbed a ton of insults at President Trump. But the series has always been political, so we'll have to see if there has been any serious drop off in response to the premiere. Will and Grace has been playing on syndication non-stop since it concluded, so there's an active audience that is practically salivating for new content.

With the trend of nostalgia ruling TV and film production, it seems like just about every property and franchise could return for new installments. And NBC is doing just that with its beloved and acclaimed sitcom Will and Grace. The series has just returned after 11 years, and its brand new Season 9 feels exactly like the first eight: irreverent, self-aware, and appropriately bonkers.

Will and Grace's first new episode jumped in with one of the duo's favorite activities: game night. The roommates and best friends are able to practically read each other's minds as they describe celebrities, which brought the series into the modern timeline through topical pop culture references, including a jab at Caitlyn Jenner.

The opening sequence also hilarious crams in exposition, courtesy of Megan Mullally's Karen Walker. She's apparently been out of it since the series ended, so Will and Grace used this device to quickly catch us up on the characters. Will and Grace have gotten divorced from Leo and Vince respectively, Jack is still aimless, and Karen is still rich and married to none other than the unseen Stanley Walker.

While Will and Grace had never shied away from political subject matter in its original run, the season premiere was a bit more on the nose and aggressive than the past episodes. Karen continuously gloats about President Donald Trump's win in the election, while Will and Grace furiously contact their representatives in an act of rebellion. But the roommates' views are quickly put into question. It turns out that Will's rep is actually a handsome and charming gay man, they just happen to fundamentally disagree on just about every issue. And when Karen gets Grace a job redecorating President Trump's oval office (she's besties with Milania), Grace has to decide whether or not to compromise her political beliefs for the amazing opportunity. These plot points end up taking the four stars to none other than the White House for the second half of the premiere.

It should be interesting to see how this choice in plot points affects Will and Grace's viewership. While the hardcore fans were no doubt delighted, opening the new season with an episode chock full of digs at President Trump has the potential to alienate viewers. In addition to turning off Trump supporters, there are probably plenty of fans who are sick of constantly being reminded about the country's political landscape, and just wanted to escape and laugh for 30 minutes.

But those unbothered by the subject matter are going to be very happy. Will and Grace's new season feels just like the original series, mostly due to the cast and writers quickly jumping back into their roles. The short video "Vote, Honey" was a test, and they all passed in a big way. Many younger Will and Grace fans have only watched the show on syndication, so this premiere marks the first time many have seen a new episode on TV.

The reboot of Will & Grace is nearly upon us. The actors have been on a press tour to keep fans excited, but a visit to Megyn Kelly's new talk show left some folks scratching their head when the host made controversial jokes. One of the Will & Grace cast members was among the people expressing confusion on social media. Emmy Award-winner Debra Messing, who plays Grace Adler, hopped online after the interview to explain she had not known she had to do Kelly's show, and she found the host's jokes frustrating. Messing wrote,

Debra Messing explained her disappointment when a fan asked her on Instagram why she and the Will & Grace family went on Megyn Kelly's show in the first place. It seems the interview would have been innocuous enough had Kelly not brought out a superfan of Will & Grace and asked him,

Moments later, Megyn Kelly awarded the superfan a trip to Los Angeles to watch a taping of Will & Grace. Then Kelly tapped him on the back and said,

The comments divided viewers. Some people wondered if Megyn Kelly was trying to infuse her joke with the judgment that gay people choose a sexual orientation. Reports say people felt concerns because of Kelly's previous history with negative remarks about the LGBT community. For example, Kelly often invited the head of an anti-gay lobbying organization onto her past Fox News show, and she sometimes made statements that seemed supportive of his rhetoric.

Thus, Debra Messing and many viewers shook their head when Megyn Kelly made the comments on her new show, which Kelly had previously said would not be political. At the same time, other viewers saw the comments as jokes, and they noted that Kelly warmly talked for a while about the "huge impact" Will & Grace had on society. People close to the Will & Grace team said it was evident Kelly was kidding and not trying to insinuate gay people choose to be gay or "become gay." Even the superfan Kelly brought on stage seemed to take the jokes in stride. In fact, Emmy Award-winner Sean Hayes, who plays Jack McFarland, indicated the interview on Kelly's show was an enjoyable experience. He tweeted,

Still, it makes sense Debra Messing felt shocked. As a gay icon and recipient of the GLAAD Excellence in Media Award, Messing knows a thing or two about competent depictions of the LGBT community on TV. We'll have to stay tuned to see if Megyn Kelly explains the jokes or, perhaps more importantly, the perspective from which she made them.

Audiences are eager to return to a a simpler time, and just about every film franchise and TV series have returned for reboots and long awaited sequels. While these projects have been met with various levels of success, there are few reboots as hotly anticipated as NBC's Will and Grace (which just released its catalogue on streaming). The new season will premiere next week at The Peacock, including its trademark theme song. Now the cast has gotten together to sing the diddy, with brand new spankin' lyrics. Check it out.

If that's not enough to get you hyped for new episodes of Will and Grace, then I'm not sure what else will. Let's break down this adorable video, and the lyrics that were added to the show's signature theme song.

Each of the four starring cast members of Will and Grace got their own solo in this song, which debut on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Up first was Debra Messing, who welcomed the fandom back to the series, before quickly turning the focus over to her best friend Will. Eric McCormack then got his own solo, while battling an unruly audience member's pom pom. He reminisced about the show's original run, especially how NBC had a night dedicated to "Must See TV".

Megan Mullally and Sean Hayes also got their own solos, full of jokes at NBC's expense. For instance, although Will and Grace will be back for a modern audience, the acclaimed sitcom is still on NBC and therefore they won't be able to curse. Plus, Mullally referenced NBC's various Chicago shows, maintaining that the new season of Will and Grace will be one of the few shows on the network that isn't set in The Windy City.

Jimmy Fallon himself even joined the fun, joking that he asked for a cameo on the new season, but was turned down. Then all five of the entertainers, as well as the myriad of backup dancers, joined together for a final chorus that helped to publicize the season premiere. Talk about good marketing.

Overall, it looks like Will and Grace will be able to jump right back into its rhythm when the series returns next week. In their following interview with Jimmy Fallon, the cast recounted how so many members of the cast and crew are returning, down to the original costume designer. The cast's ability to jump back into their Emmy Winning characters was shown in last year's short "Vote, Honey", which was a video aimed to encourage the American people to participate in the 2016 Presidential Election. The short went so viral that NBC ended up ordering a new season of Will and Grace, and then promptly renewed it.

The cast from Will & Grace recently gave the show the kind of social media frenzy that couldn't happen much when the show was still on the air. By posting excellent pictures and other things, the actors gave rise to the hopes that a full-blown Will & Grace reunion was on the way, and those hopes have been answered, sort of. Below you'll find a brand new 10-minute scene from Will & Grace that hits upon some particularly topical subject matter, the election, and it's like it never left. Check it out, and be warned that it's mildly NSFW.

There are many reasons why the cast for a popular TV show will agree to return to that show's universe, but it usually involves a lot of money resulting from a network ordering up a new season. Will & Grace's Eric McCormack, Debra Messing, Megan Mullally and Sean Hayes chose to make their reprisals for a "Vote Honey" political statement, or rather a bunch of political statements, many of which were quite hilarious. It's not coincidental in the least that this new "scene" was released to coincide with the night of the debate between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump.

The overwhelming tone of the scene is undeniably pro-Clinton, and does get kind of preachy when Grace is trying to convince Jack to vote for her. For the most part, though, the touchy subject matter is handled with the proper tone and delivery that one would expect from this bunch, and there's no immediately discernable difference between this and a random scene from a repeat on cable. Plus, it makes perfect sense to have Karen representing Trump, since her life offered up the biggest connections.

Honestly, the jokes that worked the best were the ones that had nothing to do with the election, since most of those were just direct references. (Such as Rosario's "basket of deplorables" comment in the end.) I'm a sucker for a meta joke, and they don't get much better than Jack commenting that the food in the fridge looking like it's been in there for 10 years. Plus, we got a callback to "Just Jack," only with Messing doing the face-framing.

Sadly, this is the part where I'd love to say that Will & Grace will be back on our TVs at some point soon, but unless this reunion stoked the flames for all involved to get behind a similar return in some other format, we might just have this for another ten years. In the meantime, lots of other shows are hitting the airwaves and many of them might be as funny as the former NBC hit. Check them all out in our fall premiere schedule.

Dirty Dancing is one of those films that just keeps its popularity even as the decades go by. The 1987 romantic drama is now considered a classic; and women still swoon when they think of Johnny and Baby slowly falling in love and him saving her from a staid life on the sidelines when he declares to her family, “Nobody puts Baby in a corner.” See? Swoon.

The ABC remake of the well-loved film is well under way, and since the cast keeps growing, we’re here to keep track of all the newest developments for you. So, let’s take a look at who’s already signed up to take on some of the iconic roles.

Abigail Breslin - Baby

Taking over for Jennifer Grey in Dirty Dancing will be Abigail Breslin. Breslin started making commericials when she was only three-years-old, and had her first major film role in 2002’s Signs. She went on to have her breakout in Little Miss Sunshine in 2006, a part that garnered her a Best Supporting Actress Oscar nomination. Breslin has appeared in dozens of TV shows and movies, including Zombieland, Ender’s Game, NCIS, Grey’s Anatomy, and the film Janie Jones, where she had a chance to show off her singing voice by performing several songs on the soundtrack. She was most recently seen on TV in FOX’s Scream Queens.

Colt Prattes - Johnny

Colt Prattes is not a name many of you will know, but I bet a lot of people would recognize his most famous bit of work. Prattes, who will be taking on the role Patrick Swayze immortalized as Johnny, starred with pop star P!nk in the video for her song “Try.” He also toured with the singer and appeared on stage with her to recreate their breathtaking dance number at the 2014 Grammy Awards and American Music Awards. Prattes is also an actor and singer who’s made a name for himself in those areas in the Las Vegas production of Rock of Ages as rock megastar Stacee Jaxx.

Debra Messing - Marjorie Houseman

Alright, I know this seems like a bit of a surprising choice, but Debra Messing has, indeed been signed to play Baby’s devoted mother and meticulous Houseman family housewife. Messing is, of course, very well-known for her part as half of the main duo on NBC’s Will & Grace for eight years. She’s most known for her work in TV, which has included The Starter Wife and her current show, The Mysteries of Laura. But, the role that will have the most impact on her performance in the Dirty Dancing remake is her part on the too-short-lived musical Smash.

Nicole Scherzinger - Penny

As naïve resort dancer Penny, Nicole Scherzinger will take on the part a working class woman who gets herself into a bit of trouble, which just happens to open the way for Baby and Johnny to work together and wind up in love. Scherzinger is best known as the lead singer of the Pussycat Dolls. The singer, dancer and actress has also sold 16 million records as a solo artist. Scherzinger acted as a judge on The X Factor in the U.S. and the U.K. and most recently co-hosted Best Time Ever with Neil Patrick Harris. While she’s not known for her acting, she did receive a Laurence Olivier Award nomination for her part as Grizabella in the West End production of Cats.

Sarah Hyland - Lisa Houseman

Baby needs an older sister, and Modern Family actress Sarah Hyland is up for the challenge. Hyland has been acting sine the age of four, and got her first movie credit in Private Parts in 1997. Since then she’s appeared in Law & Order, Spanglish, One Life to Live, Childrens Hospital, Vampire Academy and the TV mini-series Bonnie & Clyde.

Billy Dee Williams - Tito

Well, if you need a resort bandleader named Tito for Dirty Dancing, you want someone smooth as ice cream and just as sweet. For a part like that, you can’t do better than Billy Dee Williams, king of all things smooth, charming and sweet in the 1970s. Williams broke out in the 1971 TV movie Brian’s Song, then made his name by starring as charismatic romantic leads in films like Lady Sings the Blues and Mahogany. He’s also had leading roles in Scott Joplin, The Bingo Long Traveling All-Stars & Motor Kings and Nighthawks. Williams is probably best known, though, for his part as Lando Calrissian in two of the original Stars Wars films.

J. Quinton Johnson - Marco

Every band needs a lead singer, and J. Quinton Johnson will be playing Marco, the leader singer and guitarist of Tito's band at the resort and one of the vacation spot's stars. Johnson just made his film debut in SXSW's opening night film, Everybody Wants Some! The film's director, Richard Linklater, discovered Johnson while he was finishing his degree in Musical Theater at the University of Texas.

Beau “Casper” Smart - Billy

Beau “Casper” Smart is taking on the role of Billy in the Dirty Dancing remake. In the film, Billy is Johnny's cousin, and he meets Baby while on his way to the staff quarters. Baby goes along and has her introduction to "dirty dancing" and comes into contact with Johnny for the first time. This version of Billy will be an old friend of Johnny's who got him the job at the resort and likes to dance with the staff at their after hours parties. Smart is a dancer and actor who's appeared in a number of projects. His work can be seen in Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel, How I Met Your Mother, Glee, Step Up 3D and The Big Bang Theory.

Bruce Greenwood - Dr. Jake Houseman

Baby won't need to escape her life without someone to put her in the corner, so the movie needs Dr. Jake Houseman to lead the family and lay down expectations. Bruce Greenwood is the new head of the Houseman family. Greenwood has been a mainstay in film and television for several decades. He got his start on the 1977-1978 series The Beachcombers, and has gone on to make a long career for himself. He's appeared in First Blood, Matlock, St. Elsewhere, Knots Landing, I, Robot, Flight and the rebooted Star Trek franchise, among his 137 credits. He was most recently seen in FX's American Crime Story: The People V. O.J. Simpson

Shane Harper - Robbie

You might not remember Robbie from the original film, but he does play an important, though minor, role as the womanizing waiter who romances Baby's sister Lisa. Shane Harper will be taking on the part for the ABC remake. Harper got his start singing, dancing and acting in community theater when he was 9-years-old, and got his first TV credit in 2006. Since then, he's had parts in Hight School Musical 2 and Zoey 101, but's he's best known for his work in Good Luck Charlie, Awkward and the film God's Not Dead.

Katey Sagal - Vivian

Every smallish community like Kellerman's resort needs someone ultra sultry to stir things up, and Vivian fills the bill for them. The former beauty queen revels in seducing much younger male staff members at the resort, like our boy Johnny. At the time we meet Vivian, she's recently divorced and super rich, thanks to that divorce. She introduces Marjorie to the free-wheeling single life and makes the married mother of two think twice about her own relationship. Katey Sagal is best known for her parts in Married with Children, Sons of Anarchy and her voice work on Futurama, but she's racked up a total of 73 credits since her first on screen appearance in a TV movie in 1971.

Trevor Einhorn - Neil

Neil is the lanky, unrefined and tightly wound heir to Kellerman's resort who befriends Baby and has an obvious crush on her, which Baby's dad would love to see reciprocated. Despite his lesser traits, though, he's incredibly charming and honorable. Trevor Einhorn's screen career goes back to 1994 when he appeared in Disclosure. He's since worked on Frasier, Sons & Daughters, The Office and Mad Men.

The Dirty Dancing remake is well on its way to having a full leading cast now, and they have already made some amazing and interesting choices. Now, who can’t wait to see what these fine actors do with these classic roles?

It's that time of year again, when all the networks unveil their hopeful new series and viewers have to wade through a ton of terrible TV in order to find the few hidden gems worthy of the always-shrinking room left on their DVRs. To help with this endeavor, let me offer a a time-and-space-saving measure: don't waste any of either on NBC's The Mysteries of Laura. The mystery of "What will be the worst premiere this fall?" has already been solved.

Based on Carlos Vila and Javier Holgado's Spanish television series Los Misterios de Laura and developed for American audiences by Vila, Holgado and Jeff Rake, The Mysteries of Laura stars Debra Messing as NYPD homicide detective and mother Laura Diamond. Alongside Messing is Josh Lucas as a higher-ranking officer in the NYPD and Laura's soon to be ex-husband - will he ever sign those divorce papers?. Then there's Laz Alonzo as her partner, Janina Gavankar as her bickering co-worker and Max Jenkins as her (possibly gay) investigative aide.

The Mysteries of Laura should probably be called Detective Mom since it's really about how Messing's Laura uses her 'momness' to solve crimes. Seriously, after she saves (or recklessly endangers) a hostage by shooting the criminal, Detective Mom wipes blood from the former's face like it was just a little schmutz. And watching cops shooting first and referring to standard operating procedure as "for douches" is exactly what American audiences need right now.

Don't worry, that's only one of many poorly timed 'jokes' in the pilot episode. We also see a random black woman on the street scream at Laura that she needs to "beat" her two out of control boys, and I'm not even going to touch the bulimia gag. Oy. The awful jokes and atrocious "wannabe screwball comedy" dialogue made me wish The Mysteries of Laura was a sitcom instead of a totally tone-deaf hour-long procedural. It still would have been bad, but at least it would have been over in half the time.

I'm still trying to figure out how NBC thought the obnoxious pilot, shot by the consistently terrible McG, was worth ordering to series since none of it works. The police procedural aspect plays like a farce, draining absolutely any tension from the case of the week and making what should be an emotional resolution ridiculous. And the family side of the show isn't any better with Officer Mom using her position to blackmail teachers into getting her awful kids into another preschool after being expelled.

The product placement was handled really well though. Target gets a name-drop and, since the Mysteries of Laura is a WB produced show, they also snuck in a scene of the boys putting on their Superman and Batman pjs. It's like two minutes of the kids getting dressed, with the superhero logos in close-up. It was one of the more thrilling sequences in the series that's (offensively) being billed as an "authentic look at what it really means to be a 'working mom' today." Really, NBC? You can do better.

The pilot was aired as a 'sneak preview' after tonight's season finale of America's Got Talent with the 'series premiere' proper scheduled for next week, on September 24. The Mysteries of Laura will air Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET on NBC. Developed for American television by Jeff Rake, Carlos Vila and Javier Holgado, the series stars Debra Messing, Josh Lucas, Janina Gavankar, Laz Alonso, Max Jenkins and Enrico Colantoni. Rake also serves as an executive producer with Aaron Kaplan, Greg Berlanti, Todd Lituchy and McG.

I'll be the first to admit that Karen Walker (Megan Mullally) was one of the main reasons to watch Will & Grace. Especially when it evolved into a turnstile of celebrity guests during those latter years. In fact, it became pretty widely established that it was Karen and Jack McFarland (Sean Hayes) that stole the show every week.

A lot of that was because they weren't the title characters. As supporting cast members they could be as outrageous as they wanted, and they always were. I'm not sure if it would have succeeded if it were Jack & Karen. It needed the grounding that Will (Eric McCormack) and Grace (Debra Messin) provided.

Which is why I'm a little worried when I read that Megan Mullally is taking the Karen Walker character to the stage. I have full faith in Mullally's abilities as a stage performer, it's more a concern that Karen: The Musical might not be able to sustain itself. Is she full developed and sympathetic enough? And how will she work without Will or Jack or Grace to bounce off of.

Mullally has secured the rights to the character from NBC, and has backing from Fox Theatricals to move forward with the project, so at this point it's a matter of when and not if. On Will & Grace, Mullally brought a lot to the role of Karen throughout the eight-year span she played the character, but the character was ultimately someone else's. This time, it would be her show and so the vision of who Karen Walker is will fall fully on Mullally's lap.

While there's no word on any of the other three main characters showing up, her diminutive rival Beverley Leslie (Leslie Jordan) is already on board. Now she just needs to find a writer to bring her most famous role to life once again. Hey, I can do snotty rich woman ... just write everything that's not me.
