Kevin Costner has had to weather plenty of ups (Dancing with Wolves) and plenty of downs (Waterworld, though the actor claims it was never a “low point” for him) over the course of his career, and he’s been in a rougher patch ever since he exited Yellowstone and dumped a bunch of money into his Horizon passion project. Amidst this, however, some of his other movies are seeing a resurgence on streaming.

That’s the bad news. The good news is that Let Him Go, a western from 2020 that was written off by the public and only made a little over $10 million dollars at the box office, is now seeing new life on streaming. In fact, it was crushing earlier in April on Netflix, and even made the streamer’s Global Top 10.

Here’s Costner’s simple-yet-honest take on what happened from his Stories:

Never have truer words been spoken. There are hundreds of examples of movies that flopped that became classics later. There's the famous Fight Club example, of course, in which Brad Pitt and Edward Norton had a cringe-y premiere. Then there are tons of other big movies like Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory or Idiocracy.

We actually saw this already once. Horizon was a big flop in movie theaters. It only pulled in a bit over $38 million globally, which is the same amount Costner himself supposedly injected into his sprawling Western projects. He definitely didn’t make his money back, and neither did the studio. Then, a funny thing happened. When the movie went to streaming, Horizon: Chapter One climbed into the Top 10 across all streaming services. People wanted to watch it; they just didn’t make it to the theater to see the movie. This is maybe a shame, because Costner wanted it to be seen in the theater.

Let Him Go actually had solid reviews when it came out, which is a little bit different than what happened with Horizon – though it’s worth pointing out audiences if not the critics are fresh on both movies. The neo-Western thriller was actually filmed in 2019 and became a byproduct of the COVID-19 theatrical mess, in which lots of big movies didn't do so hot and theaters were looking for support. It eventually made its way onto the big screen in November of 2020, but at that time, it was still a struggle to get butts into seats.

Hopefully, years later, the Warner Bros. movie is truly getting its due. Now, maybe it's time to revisit Horizon: Chapter 2.

One of the special aspects of Mike Flanagan projects is his tendency to constantly work with the same group of actors. From Hush to The Fall Of The House Of Usher to The Life Of Chuck, the writer/director has developed a kind of troupe of performers who go with him from production to production. It's been a wonderful thing to see this special collaboration grow over the last decade – but in the case of Flanagan's upcoming Exorcist movie, it appears that he is making a big swinging for star power: the cast already includes Scarlett Johansson and Hamnet standout Jacobi Jupe, and we have the news today that the great Diane Lane has signed on as well.

The collection of Blumhouse-Atomic Monster, Morgan Creek, and Universal Pictures have made this new casting official via press release. The only downside is that the announcement continues the trend of secrecy surrounding the project, as there is no information made available regarding the role the Man of Steel actress will be playing or what the movie is about (we still don't even have a title yet).

Plot-wise, the only thing that has been confirmed about the film is that it is not going to be a direct sequel to David Gordon Green's The Exorcist: Believer. That feature was originally planned as the start of a trilogy, but that idea died when the movie was roasted by critics and bombed in theaters (a particularly tough development given that Universal Pictures had paid $400 million in acquiring the franchise rights, per The New York Times). The Mike Flanagan-developed project is a pivot that hopes to change the perception of the massive investment.

In the last few years, Diane Lane's presence has principally been on the small screen, as she has had roles in shows/miniseries including Y: The Last Man, Extrapolations, Feud and A Man In Full, but last year she starred alongside Kyle Chandler, Madeline Brewer, McKenna Grace, Dylan O'Brien and Zoey Deutch in the dark comedy Anniversary. In addition to the untitled Exorcist film, she is also part of the cast of Brad Anderson's upcoming Moral Capacity with Dacre Montgomery, Sofia Boutella and Tim Robbins.

We'll hopefully start to get more information about the latest Exorcist film as it continues to build out its cast and we get closer to the start of production – which is soon slated to begin in New York City. The movie is currently set to be released in theaters on March 12, 2027 (why it's not aiming for spooky season isn't entirely clear), but for those of you who need a Mike Flanagan fix sooner than that, I'll happily remind you that the filmmaker's limited series adaptation of Stephen King's Carrie for Prime Video is on pace to be released later this year.

Jennifer Lopez’s career has been rather epic, from being in a number of iconic films, including Selena, to having an award-winning music career that took her to the Super Bowl a few years ago. As the multi-hypenate recently has been promoting one of the 2025 movie releases, Kiss Of The Spider Woman, she spoke about one big regret she has about her acting career. Lopez is still bummed she passed on 2002’s Unfaithful. Following her comments, Diane Lane has talked about what it was like to be the one in the part instead.

Last week, Jennifer Lopez went on The Howard Stern Show and was asked by the host if there’s a role of hers she regrets turning down. In her words:

In case you haven’t heard of director Adrian Lyne, he’s the director behind a ton of classic movies like Flashdance, Fatal Attraction, Lolita and, most recently, Deep Water with Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas. When Lopez was approached by him to star in Unfaithful, she recalled being unimpressed with the script and saying “no” to it. However, since the movie came out and has become so acclaimed that Diane Lane was nominated for Best Actress, Lopez has been kicking herself. JLo previously has talked about this, describing how it makes her feel by saying the decision makes her “want to literally, like, shoot my toe off”.

How Diane Lane Reacted To JLo’s Unfaithful Comments

When Entertainment Tonight caught Diane Lane up to speed while she was at the Newport Beach Film Festival to receive the “Icon Award,” she responded with her two cents on why she said yes to Unfaithful. As she said:

Unfaithful was a huge movie for Diane Lane, between all the critical acclaim she received for it, along with it being commercially successful. The movie, which also stars Richard Gere, follows a married couple and parents to an eight-year-old living in New York. Lane plays Connie, a woman who finds herself getting into an affair with a handsome Frenchman amidst her very boring marriage to Gere’s Edward.

Lopez did have her own moment of Oscar buzz with her 2019 film Hustlers, but she was snubbed for an Academy Award nomination. JLo has said that losing out to a nomination “was sad” after all the build up she had received by the public. You can see her in Kiss Of The Spider Woman now, and see Lane in Anniversary, hitting theaters on October 29.

Even the greatest actors have ups and downs in their careers. For some, it's more dramatic than others. John Travolta was virtually forgotten about before Quentin Tarantino cast him in Pulp Fiction, for example. Then there was "The McConaissance," when Matthew McConaughey roared back to prominence. Pulp Fiction - John Travolta

This was a big one. In the late '70s, there wasn't a bigger star than John Travolta. On the strength of a hit TV show (Welcome Back, Kotter), and two huge hits at the box office with Saturday Night Fever and Grease, Travolta was on top of the world. Then, almost all of a sudden, poof, he was gone. In the 16 years between Grease in 1978 and 1994, he appeared in only 11 movies, and three of those were Look Who's Talking movies and most of them bombed. Then Tarantino came along and cast him as Vincent Vega in Pulp Fiction and once again, Travolta was on top of the business and he's never looked back. 

Dallas Buyers Club - Matthew McConaughey

Matthew McConaughey exploded onto the scene in the early '90s in Dazed And Confused, where he delivered some of the most iconic quotes. In the mid-90s he started playing more dramatic roles in movies like A Time To Kill, Contact, and Amistad. By the early 2000s, he established himself as a popular lead in rom-coms. Then, after a few of his movies struggled to make an impact in the late 2000s, his star faded a little. That all changed in 2013 when he starred in, and won a Best Actor Oscar, for Dallas Buyers Club and The McConaissance was born. 

Stranger Things - Winona Ryder

With movies like Beetlejuice, Heathers,  The Age of Innocence, and Little Women, Winona Ryder was a superstar in the late '80s and early '90s. But in the early '00s, after some bad press for her shoplifting conviction, Ryder's star had fallen quite a bit and she even took a short break from acting. Though she never fell off the map completely, it wasn't until she starred in Stranger Things starting in 2016, that Ryder returned to the top. 

Judy - Renée Zellweger

Between Jerry McGuire in 1996 and Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason in 2005, Renée Zellweger was one of the most popular and successful actors in Hollywood. With a slew of hits and awards,  Zellweger could do no wrong. Then, after a few less-than-successful movies, the industry showed how fickle it could be and she fell off the A-list. That all changed in 2019 with Judy, followed up with the TV series The Thing About Pam.

The Whale - Brendan Fraser

the 1990s were Brendan Fraser's decade. He had some massive hits, most notably The Mummy in 1999, but soon after, it's like everything dried up. He worked still, but barely and it left the world asking what had become of the heartthrob. He answered every one with his amazing performance in The Whale, winning the Best Actor Oscar and roaring back to the top. 

Birdman - Michael Keaton

In the 1980s, Michael Keaton delivered some of the funniest lines in some of the funniest movies. In the mid-90s and early 00s, his career slowed a bit. He was still working but wasn't the big star he'd been when he got the role in Tim Burton's Batman. That is, of course, until he starred as an actor much like himself in Birdman and brought the great actor back to the top of the A-list. 

House Of Cards - Robin Wright

When she burst onto the scene in The Princess Bride, the sky was the limit for Robin Wright. She reached new heights with her role as Jenny in Forrest Gump but found herself a tabloid regular with her marriage to Sean Penn. Ultimately, she found perhaps her greatest fame when she landed the role of Claire Underwood in Netflix's House Of Cards. 

Everything Everywhere All at Once - Ke Huy Quan

Has there ever been a feel-good story in Hollywood like Ke Huy Quan's return to fame after winning an Oscar for his role in Everything Everywhere All at Once? After decades of virtually not working in the industry, having found fame as a kid, Quan was once again the toast of the town.

She's been called the original slasher film "final girl" for her role in the original Halloween, and Jamie Lee Curtis rode that fame to the top of Hollywood. You might not remember, but in 2006 she actually announced her retirement from acting. People forget just how huge Mickey Rourke was in the 80s. Men wanted to be him and women wanted to be with him, as they say. Then, he decided he'd put acting on the back burner and become a boxer. After a somewhat successful run, he returned to acting, and with Sin City and The Wrestler, Rouke was back on top in Hollywood

Scream - Drew Barrymore

Drew Barrymore became a huge star as a kid in the 1980s with movies like E.T. and Firestarter. In her teens, some personal problems derailed things a little, but when she starred in Scream, it brought her completely back and she's never looked back. 

Wild - Reese Witherspoon

When Reese Witherspoon won the Academy Award for her performance in 2005's Walk The Line, she was on top of the world. Just a few years later though, after a string of poorly performing romance movies Witherspoon dubbed her "love triangle period," her career hit a valley. Then came Wild which marked not only her resurgence as an actor but her transition to big-time producer as well. 

Iron Man - Robert Downey, Jr

There probably isn't a more famous comeback story than Robert Downey, Jr. After years of personal problems and addiction, his career looked like it was going to be completely wasted. Then Downey sobered up and landed the role of a lifetime as Tony Stark/Iron Man and the rest is history. 

Arrested Development - Jason Bateman

Jason Bateman has had quite a few ups and downs in his career. In the '80s, he was a teen star on the verge of big things, but then his career hit a serious lull. It really wasn't until the cult success of Arrested Development that Bateman once again commanded must-see TV. 

Ryan Reynolds - Deadpool

With big roles in 90s TV shows like Sabrina the Teenage Witch and Two Guys And A Girl, Ryan Reynolds was poised for huge success. At first, that's what he found, but it started to fizzle out with a string of forgettable movies in the late '00s and early teens, including the disaster that was The Green Lantern. Then came another superhero movie in 2015 called Deadpool and now he will be doing that until he's 90. 

Yellowjackets - Christina Ricci

By no fault of her own, Christina Ricci's career hit a string of bad luck with projects that she shined in, but for one reason or another didn't capture the attention of audiences. That changed, obviously, with Yellowjackets starting in 2021. 

The Godfather - Marlon Brando

People forget that when Francis Ford Coppola cast Marlon Brando as Vito Corleone, Brando was on the outs in Hollywood. It's well-known lore at this point that Coppola had to fight to get the legend in the movie, but we're all grateful he did. 

24 - Kiefer Sutherland

With roles in Stand By Me, The Lost Boys,  and the two Young Guns movies, the late '80s and early '90s were big for Kiefer Sutherland. The mid and late '90s saw a bit of a lull with some box office disappointments. In 2001, Sutherland took on the role of Jack Bauer in 24, which quickly became one of the most popular shows on TV and Sutherland rode it to a new level of fame. 

 Orange Is The New Black - Natasha Lyonne

Legal and personal problems almost completely derailed Natasha Lyonne's promising career in the '00s. Thankfully, she got the help she needed and cleaned up, she scored a role on the Netflix hit Orange Is The New Black and she's continued to crush in a number of roles since. 

This Is Us - Mandy Moore

Around the turn of the century, Mandy Moore was unstoppable, starring in hit movies and charting on the Top 40. It was in 2016, however, when she was cast as the matriarch in This Is Us that her fame shot to an entirely new level.

After a big decade in the '90s, Ben Affleck's fame in the '00s was more about the tabloids than it was about his filmography. It took a few years, but eventually, he proved to everyone how great a filmmaker he was with The Town in 2010, and ever since, he's been crushing it.

Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle - Neil Patrick Harris

Like his character on Doogie Howser, MD, Neil Patrick Harris was a prodigy. However after the hit show ended, he struggled to move into more adult roles. Surprisingly, it was playing a fictionalized version of himself in Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle that landed him back on audiences' radar screens, and then he landed his most famous gig on How I Met Your Mother

Bohemian Rhapsody - Mike Myers

Mike Myers was everywhere in the 1990s. From SNL to Wayne's World (one of the best movies based on an SNL character) to Shrek to Austin Powers, he was on top of the world. In 2010, after a string of box office misses, he retreated from the scene, only to emerge with a glorious role in 2018's Bohemian Rhapsody. 

John Wick - Keanu Reeves

After proving to be box office gold for a couple of decades, Keanu Reeves had a string of misses in the late '00s, but when he teamed up with director Chad Stahelski for John Wick in 2014, he helped launch a whole new franchise that continues to pump out hits. 

Unfaithful - Diane Lane

Diane Lane has always been selective about her roles, going back to her early days in Hollywood in the '80s. This has led to multiple career "revivals" but the most notable has to be her turn in the hit Unfaithful in 2002 which earned her a Best Actress nomination at the Oscars in 2003. 

Airplane! - Leslie Nielsen

For a generation of audiences, Leslie Nielson will forever be known for his roles in some of the best parody movies like Airplane! and The Naked Gun. But before Nielson was delivering hilarious lines in those movies, he was known for his dramatic acting., though his career had slowed before he reinvented himself in the first Airplane!  

Striptease - Burt Reynolds

Burt Reynolds was one of Hollywood's biggest stars in the '70s, but a few poorly received movies in the '80s knocked him off that lofty perch. While many might point to his role in Boogie Nights in 1997 as reviving his career, it was really his hilarious performance in Striptease from a year earlier that put him back on the map.

No Country For Old Men - Josh Brolin

After finding success as a young star in the 1980s in movies like The Goonies, Josh Brolin hit a career drought that lasted more than a decade and left him wondering if he'd ever regain his earlier success. He did so and more after his amazing turn in No Country For Old Men in 2007 and has been one of Hollywood's best ever since.

Rocky Balboa - Sylvester Stallone

Sylvester Stallone is responsible for some of the biggest franchises in Hollywood history, but even the great ones stumble. Stallone had a pretty rough run of bad movies in the late '90s and early '00s, but when he returned to his roots in 2006's Rocky Balboa, he once again found his footing and not only starring in Rambo, reviving his other monster franchise, but he launched a new one with The Expendables.

One of the best horror movies of all time for various reasons, William Friedkin’s The Exorcist is still a powerful movie in and of itself, but it’d be silly to think that its impact is just as powerful today as it was when it hit theaters 53 years ago. Horror has come a long way since then, with diminishing returns for the franchise as a whole, but audiences are still fascinated by demonic possession stories, especially with genre masterminds like Mike Flanagan at the helm.

The writer and director behind The Haunting of Hill House, The Fall of the House of Usher (still my favorite horror show of the 21st century) and Doctor Sleep, Flanagan is bringing his storytelling skills to the Exorcist universe, but obviously not in the most traditional ways. His project is still untitled, and fans still have a lot to learn about it, but we thankfully know more about it now than we did when it was originally announced.

So pour yourself a glass of pea-soup soda, or whatever beverage you’d actually prefer to be drinking, and read on for everything we know so far about Mike Flanagan’s upcoming Exorcist movie for Universal Pictures.

When Is The Release Date For Mike Flanagan's Exorcist Movie?

At one point earlier in its development cycle, in June 2024 to be more exact, Universal announced the new Exorcist project was being set to release on March 13. 2026. Considering not a lick of footage has been released, and casting updates are only just surfacing regularly here in February 2026, that initial premiere goal would obviously be impossible to hit.

Despite previous production delays stemming from Flanagan’s work on his new Carrie series adaptation, the new horror feature is rolling on all of its spooky cylinders currently, and in January 2026, the studio unveiled a new release date of March 12, 2027, which will hopefully remain the case without any further changes.

Scarlett Johansson Is Heading Up An Already Impressive Cast

Though it’s technically the follow-up to David Gordon Green’s box office disappointment Exorcist: The Believer, Mike Flanagan’s feature is based on an original idea, and it’s not expected that any previously introduced franchise characters will be involved, though that could obviously change. But that’s hardly disappointing when so many other solid actors have already been announced for the new movie.

Scarlett Johansson (Character TBA)

To date, Scarlett Johansson’s only real dabbling in horror features has been for Jonathan Glazer’s Under the Skin, which was technically more of a dark sci-fi tale with existentially horrifying concepts. So it was quite the shock to hear the Jurassic World: Rebirth star signed on for her first collaboration with Mike Flanagan, but I’ve no doubt they’ll be a match made in horror heaven.

Diane Lane (Character TBA)

With a slew of award nominations under her belt, Diane Lane was the second cast member announced for Flanagan’s new movie. And like Johansson, Lane is not an actor who has ever been synonymous with genre stories — I’ll blame Judge Dredd for that — though she’s well-equipped for psychological thrillers such as 2025’s darkly comedic Anniversary. I can imagine she’ll put those skills to work in this disturbing universe, though it’s hard to tell exactly who she might be playing.

Jacobi Jupe (Character TBA)

Young actor Jacobi Jupe has been on a career rise, going from Peter Pan & Wendy to the Apple TV thriller Before to Chloé Zhao’s universally acclaimed drama Hamnet, where he portrays the titular child of William Shakespeare. As such, he’s a promising addition to Flanagan’s Exorcist project, as the director’s projects are known for featuring nuanced performances from preteen actors. While not quite confirmed yet, Jupe is reportedly playing the son of ScarJo’s character.

Chiwetel Ejiofor (Character TBA)

The first cast member announced for Mike Flanagan’s exorcism movie that has worked with the filmmaker in the past, Chiwetel Ejiofor has been tapped to play an unidentified character in the new horror movie. Ejiofor previously portrayed the character Marty Anderson in last year’s Stephen King adaptation The Life of Chuck, and I couldn’t be more excited for another A-tier actor to join the list of frequent collaborators. According to THR, the actor is allegedly playing an ex-con who becomes a priest.

Laurence Fishburne (Character TBA)

The most prolific of any previously revealed cast members, Laurence Fishburne is no stranger to both quality genre projects and franchises. The Pee-Wee’s Playhouse vet co-starred in A Nightmare on Elm Street 3, Event Horizon, The Matrix series, Predators, Hannibal, and more. I’d expect him to take on the role of an esteemed priest or other authority figure within the Catholic church, but that could be all wrong.

Mike Flanagan is known for populating his projects with a dozen or more actors culled from a growing list of frequent collaborators, from his wife Kate Siegel to Carla Gugino to Rahul Kohli to Samantha Sloyan (who is co-starring in his Carrie series). As such, fans can expect another major casting announcement that addresses the slew of co-stars filling out the world.

Flanagan was revealed to be in talks with Blumhouse in early May 2024 to be tackling some kind of an Exorcist project, but it was unclear at the time if it would be related to prior plans.

Mike Flanagan Is Writing And Directing An All-New Story Within The Exorcist Universe

Rarely one to helm projects scripted by other writers, Mike Flanagan will indeed be directing from his own screenplay for this new project. At the time of the initial announcement, he shared an excited reaction that explained how impetus for joining another project meant to reimagine a classic horror release. In his words:

The Exorcist is one of the reasons I became a filmmaker, and it is an honor to have the chance to try something fresh, bold, and terrifying within its universe. Reuniting with my friends at Blumhouse, with whom I’ve made some of my favorite pieces of work, only makes this more exciting.

Though he’s still keeping all story details bundled up and locked away until a later point, Flanagan has confirmed that this new narrative is definitely not tied into the Believer storyline, which was meant to spark a full trilogy until low box office returns caused the studio to shutter its efforts. It’s neither a remake nor a sequel to any previous entries, and is merely described as being “set in” this world.

The new Exorcist film will also be produced by Flanagan’s Red Room Productions, and will be the fourth project that Flanagan teamed up with Blumhouse Pictures on, following 2013’s Oculus and 2016’s double dose of Hush and Ouija: Origin of Evil. Jason Blum shared the statement below around the time the project was announced:

Hopefully Mike Flanagan's new ideas for this universe are indeed strong enough to keep the franchise afloat without suffering another box office blow like The Exorcist: Believer, which unfortunately suffered even more due to Universal and Peacock having paid upwards of $400 million for the rights to Exorcist projects, which made it nearly impossible for a single movie to recoup those costs.

A New Production Start Is Now Set In Stone

Blumhouse-Atomic Monster and Morgan Creek are set to go into production on Mike Flanagan’s Exorcist project in New York City, with a starting window reportedly set for March 2026. Which will give Flanagan & Co. almost exactly a year’s time to go from the first slate to the absolute final post-production duties. With some filmmakers, that kind of a truncated timeline might seem dangerous, but Flanagan is known for delivering projects on time and without any publicized budget issues. So I wouldn’t expect any further delays.

So from now until March 7, 2027, start making your predictions on where and when in the film we'll see Mike Flanagan's cursed Lasser Glass show up as an easter egg, the same way he uses it in all his other projects.

Some of the biggest stars in Hollywood are also some of the most often snubbed by the Oscars when it comes to Best Actor and Actress Academy Awards. Legends like Harrison Ford, Jamie Lee Curtis, and many others have somehow had some of the most successful careers in film, but have only been nominated for one Academy Award in the acting categories. 

Harrison Ford - Nominated For Best Actor (Witness)

Harrison Ford is a national treasure, most everyone will agree. Everyone, it seems, except The Academy, as he has only ever nominated once, for 1985’s Witness. This actor has been in two of the biggest franchises in history, plus the two Jack Ryan movies and so much more. He should’ve been nominated for The Fugitive at least. 

Eddie Murphy - Nominated For Best Supporting Actor (Dreamgirls)

Another icon of the late 20th Century and early 21st Century is Eddie Murphy, who has only been nominated once, for Dreamgirls in 2007. This is probably more testament to the Academy's apparent lack of appreciation for some of his best comedic performances because I dare you to find better ones in history than Murphy in Beverly Hills Cop or Coming To America. 

Gwyneth Paltrow - Nominated For Best Actress (Shakespeare In Love)

Gwyneth Paltrow will likely be a polarizing name on this list because the actor herself tends to be, but she’s had a number of wonderful performances over the years. Roles in The Talented Mr. Ripley, Emma, and The Royal Tenenbaums are all worthy of more consideration than she’s received over the years. She's earned just one nomination for Shakespeare in Love, for which she also won. 

Taraji P. Henson - Nominated For Best Supporting Actress (The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button)

Taraji P. Henson has been nominated for more than thirty acting awards across her sterling career. Somehow, only one of those was for an Academy Award. Her lone Oscar nomination was for The Curious Case of Benjamin Button in 2008, and it’s frankly astounding that’s the only one. At a minimum, she should have been nominated for Hidden Figures alongside her cast-mate Octavia Spencer. Hopefully, this changes with her role in the upcoming remake of The Color Purple. 

Hugh Jackman - Nominated For Best Actor (Les Misérables)

Hugh Jackman is one award away from achieving EGOT status. The “O” is missing and shockingly he’s only been nominated once for an Oscar, for his performance in Les Misérables. The multi-talented Jackman has won so many awards, but is shut out yearly at the Academy Awards. The Oscars may not show much respect to comic book films, but everyone else does, and saying he should have been nominated for Logan isn’t a stretch, nor is saying it about his performance in The Greatest Showman.

Jamie Lee Curtis - Nominated For Best Supporting Actress (Everything Everywhere All At Once)

Jamie Lee Curtis is one of the most versatile actors of her generation. Horror, comedy, drama, she does it all. And yet, she has little to show for it in terms of Oscar nominations. She finally was nominated (and won) for Everything Everywhere All At Once but where were the nominations for My Girl and A Fish Called Wanda?

Salma Hayek - Nominated For Best Actress (Frida)

It’s been more than two decades since Salma Hayek was first nominated for an Oscar, for 2001’s Frida and she’s not been nominated since. Hayek is an icon and one of the most beloved actors today, yet never seems to get the attention of the Academy. This is likely in part due to the discounting of action films, which have become Hayek’s bread and butter, but that doesn’t mean her performances in movies like Traffic and Beatriz at Dinner weren't worthy of attention.

Matthew McConaughey - Nominated For Best Actor (Dallas Buyers Club)

When Matthew McConaughey won the Oscar for Dallas Buyers Club after being nominated for the first and only time, he led his speech with his trademark “Alright, alright, alright” and while his role in Dazed and Confused is a classic, he certainly deserved nominations for other roles, like how about a nod for his supporting role in The Wolf Of Wall Street or his performance in the vastly underrated Mud?

Samuel L. Jackson - Nominated For Best Supporting Actor (Pulp Fiction)

If there is anyone on the list that should be a perennial nominee, it’s Samuel L. Jackson. His lone nomination came from his unforgettable and meme-able turn in Pulp Fiction, but he’s an actor who steals every scene he's in, in a good way. Just his roles in Quentin Tarantino films alone, like Django Unchained and The Hateful Eight, are worthy of nominations, but it hasn’t happened, sadly. Thankfully for all of us, Jackson was given an honorary Oscar in 2021 for his contributions to film, which is some consolation. 

Uma Thurman - Nominated For Best Supporting Actress (Pulp Fiction)

Speaking of Pulp Fiction, the Tarantino classic also led to Uma Thurman’s one and only Academy Award nomination. Despite being one of the biggest stars on the planet, Thurman seems to have no luck getting the attention of the Academy. One role that really stands out is in the under-appreciated Prime. 

Benedict Cumberbatch - Nominated For Best Actor (The Imitation Game)

One has to believe that more nominations will be coming for Benedict Cumberbatch. Thus far, his only acknowledgment from the Oscars was for his wonderful performance as Alan Turing in The Imitation Game. There are plenty of other roles he could have been nominated for, especially as William Bulger in Black Mass and Julian Assange in The Fifth Estate and that’s just the roles in which he’s played real people! 

Mark Wahlberg - Nominated For Best Supporting Actor (The Departed)

In 1990, no one would have expected “Marky” Mark Wahlberg to appear on any kind of list like that, but almost 35 years later, it’s astounding his only Oscar nomination has been for The Departed (one of our picks for the 100 best movies of the 2000s). You have to question why he was ignored for Boogie Nights, for sure. The Fighter is another clear snub, though he was technically nominated for Best Picture as a producer of the film. 

Halle Berry - Nominated For Beat Actress (Monster's Ball)

When Halle Berry earned her one Oscar nomination for 2001’s Monster’s Ball, she was the odds-on favorite to win. She had become one of the biggest stars of the 1990s and now was her time to shine. She won, of course, but sadly, it would be the last time Berry would be nominated, so far, at least. It’s a shame because there are plenty of roles she’d be deserving of a nomination, like Frankie & Alice, for which she was nominated for a Golden Globe.

Laurence Fishburne - Nominated For Best Actor (What's Love Got To Do With It)

This could be the most shocking on the list. At first thought, you might guess Laurence Fishburne was nominated for his amazing work as Furious Styles in Boyz n the Hood or Professor Phipps in John Singleton’s other masterpiece, Higher Learning. Alas, the Matrix star has only one nomination, for playing Ike Turner in What’s Love Got To Do With It, and he didn’t win. 

Josh Brolin  - Nominated For Best Supporting Actor (Milk)

Josh Brolin has been a favorite since he was a teenager in The Goonies. He’s also starred in some powerhouse movies, like Sicario and, most of all, No Country For Old Men. No Country won a slew of Oscars including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Supporting Actor for Javier Barden, and yet Brolin wasn’t even nominated. It frankly doesn’t make sense. Brolin’s lone nomination came from his wonderful performance in Milk, but that was the year that the late Heath Ledger won for The Dark Knight.

Sharon Stone - Nominated For Best Actress (Casino)

You could argue that while Sharon Stone was brilliant in Casino, it wasn’t even her best performance, though it’s the only time she’s been nominated. She wasn’t nominated for Basic Instinct, despite winning the Golden Globe for the role, nor for the underrated The Muse in 2000. At least we have Casino. 

Tilda Swinton - Nominated For For Best Supporting Actress (Michael Clayton)

2007's Michael Clayton was awash in acting nominations, including George Clooney for Best Actor and Tom Wilkinson for Best Supporting Actor. The only winner of the night, though, was Tilda Swinton for Best Supporting Actress. Over her incredible career, Swinton has been honored for other roles, like her parts in The Deep End, We Need to Talk About Kevin, and even Snowpiercer, but this remains her only Oscar nod. 

Liam Neeson - Nominated For Best Actor (Schindler’s List)

Long before Liam Neeson re-invented himself as an action star in summer blockbusters, he was a character actor carving out a nice career in film. Then came the epic Schindler's List. He was nominated for the Oscar for Best Actor in a movie, though he lost out to Tom Hanks for Philadelphia. In the 30 years since, Neeson has not been nominated, not even for fantastic turns in The Gangs of New York, Michael Collins, or Rob Roy. For shame.  

Lupita Nyong'o - Nominated For Best Actress (12 Years A Slave)

Lupita Nyong'o burst onto the Hollywood scene with her heartbreakingly beautiful performance in 12 Years A Slave. She won the Academy Award for Best Actress and has since been racking up the accolades everywhere... except the Oscars. Despite well-received turns in Us and Queen of Katwe, not to mention her roles in the Black Panther films, she hasn't again been nominated. 

Sean Connery - Nominated For Best Supporting Actors (The Untouchables)

Sean Connery was one of the biggest movie stars in the world, and yet he was virtually ignored by the Academy for his whole career. Setting aside his brilliance as James Bond, Connery should’ve earned nods for The Hunt For Red October, and The Name Of The Rose, at least. Instead, his only nomination came for The Untouchables, which, thankfully, he won. 

Alec Baldwin - Nominated For Best Supporting Actor (The Cooler)

Another fantastic performance in The Hunt for Red October that didn’t get recognition is Alec Baldwin’s as Jack Ryan. Baldwin could’ve been nominated for either of his two on-screen performances in 1992, Glengarry Glen Ross, and Prelude To A Kiss, but again he was snubbed. His only nomination came for his role in The Cooler.

Diane Lane - Nominated For Best Actress (Unfaithful)

Diane Lane found her footing in film in the late 1990s with outstanding performances in movies like A Walk on the Moon and The Perfect Storm, either of which could've been award-winning. Instead, it wasn't until 2002's Unfaithful that she got the recognition she deserved when she was nominated for Best Actress. 

Bill Murray - Nominated For Best Actor (Lost in Translation)

The Academy has missed out on great performances by one of the best comedic actors the world has ever seen in Bill Murray. Stripes, Ghostbusters, What About Bob?, and Groundhog's Day are some of the most beloved comedies of all time, and Murray was never recognized. Nor was he for his brilliant turns in Rushmore and The Royal Tenenbaums. Murray's sole nomination came, deservingly, for 2003's Lost In Translation. 

Jennifer Connelly - Nominated For Best Supporting Actress (A Beautiful Mind)

Jennifer Connelly has been wowing audiences for decades, including in 2022's massive hit Top Gun: Maverick. It appears though, that she has not been wowing the Academy, as she's only ever been nominated for one Oscar, which she won, for her role in 2001's A Beautiful Mind. Other roles have earned her other awards, like her parts in Requiem For A Dream and The House of Sand and Fog, but to date, nothing from the Academy Awards. 

Kathleen Turner - Nominated For Best Actress (Peggy Sue Got Married)

Despite massive hits like Body Heat, Serial Mom, and of course, Romancing The Stone, Kathleen Turner has only earned one Oscar nomination, for the vastly underrated Francis Ford Coppola film from 1986, Peggy Sue Got Married. Surely this icon of the screen deserves more. 

Robert Redford - Nominated For Best Actor (The Sting)

It’s astounding that the great Robert Redford has only one acting nomination in his whole career, for The Sting. Though he defined what a movie star is, Redford never received Oscar attention for roles in All The President’s Men, All Is Lost, Out Of Africa, and Three Days of the Condor, among many others. The list is endless here. He has been nominated twice for Best Director, for Ordinary People and Quiz Show, and won for the former. Redford also received an Honorary Oscar in 2002.

Catherine Zeta-Jones - Nominated For Best Actress (Chicago)

At the 75th Academy Awards, Chicago was the biggest winner of the night, garnering 13 nominations and winning six of them, including Catherine Zeta-Jones for Best Actress. Alas, this, so far, is the only time the Welsh actress has even been nominated, despite powerhouse roles in Traffic and Entrapment. At least she shares this dubious distinction with her husband Michael Douglas. 

Micheal Douglas - Nominated For Best Actor (Wall Street)

Gordon Gekko in Wall Street is one of the all-time great cinema villains and Michael Douglas richly deserved the Academy Award he won for playing the part in 1988. An actor with a slew of amazing performances from Falling Down, to Traffic, to Fatal Attraction and more, with only one acting nomination. He was also nominated/won for Best Picture in 1976 as the producer of One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest. 

Lauren Bacall - Nominated For Best Supporting Actress (The Mirror Has Two Faces)

Lauren Bacall was one of the true icons of the Golden Age of Hollywood, starring in such films as The Big Sleep, Key Largo, and many, many more over her career. Shockingly, it took until 1997 for the Academy to recognize her work when she was finally nominated for a Best Supporting Actress role for The Mirror Has Two Faces. She did finally receive a well-deserved honorary Oscar in 2000. 

Kevin Costner - Nominated For Best Actor (Dances With Wolves)

Dances With Wolves was the darling of the Oscars in 1991. It was nominated for 12 awards, winning seven, including Best Director for Kevin Costner and Best Picture, which Costner won as a producer. It was also the one and only time Costner has been nominated for an acting Academy Award. There are so many other iconic parts he should’ve gotten more credit for, like JFK, Bull Durham, The Untouchables, and Hidden Figures, just to name a few. 

It just goes to show that even being a huge box office draw, and a megastar doesn't mean you'll get recognition from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Oscars are incredibly hard to win and even being nominated is an honor, they say. Still, for everyone on the list, you'd think they'd have more than one.  

When it comes to Apple TV+, they’ve been coming out with hit after hit, whether it be the famous Ted Lasso, or the award-winning Severance, there’s plenty on the streaming service to love. And now, they’re back with the latest ensemble series, Extrapolations. 

The TV show is an anthology drama series that shows the effects of climate change across the world, from different characters that are somehow all connected. In any show like this, there are many stars that you have probably seen somewhere before. Here is where you might have spotted the Extrapolations cast. 

Kit Harington (Nicholas Bilton)

First up on the list is Kit Harington, who plays Nicholas Bilton in Extrapolations. Harington is primarily known for his role as Jon Snow in the Game of Thrones cast, but he’s also had roles in shows such as Gunpowder, and was in movies like Pompeii as well as Eternals. 

Daveed Diggs (Rabbi Marshall Zucker)

Daveed Diggs portrays Rabbi Marshall Zucker in Extrapolations, and the actor has been on a grind recently with his shows and movies. While Diggs is primarily known for his role in the Hamilton cast, he’s the star of Snowpiercer, and was also in big movies such as Soul and Blindspotting. 

Sienna Miller (Rebecca) 

Next up is Sienna Miller, who plays Rebecca. Miller has been in films such as The Lost City of Z, Foxcatcher, American Woman, and G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra. She was also in the TV film, The Girl. 

Meryl Streep (Eve)

Portraying Eve in Extrapolations is Meryl Streep, a name that I’m sure we are all very familiar with. Streep has been in so many movies that it’s hard to even keep track sometimes. I’m sure that somehow, someway, you have heard of her, so let’s go over some of her best roles and where you’ve seen her before.  

Streep got started back in the 1970s on the stage, but later on moved into movies and TV with films such as Julia, Kramer vs. Kramer, Sophie’s Choice, Out of Africa, Death Becomes Her, The Bridges of Madison Country, The Post, Little Women, The Devil Wears Prada, Into the Woods, The Hours, and more. If you want to hear something crazy, she holds the record for the most nominations by an actress for the Academy Awards – 21. 

Besides movies, Streep has done a lot in television, as well. She had a lead role in the miniseries, Holocaust, as well as a starring part in the second season of Big Little Lies. She was also a part of the miniseries, Angels in America, which won her a Primetime Emmy award. 

Michael Gandolfini (Rowan)

The son of James Gandolfini, Michael Gandolfini portrays Rowan in the series. He’s been in films such as Ocean’s 8, and portrayed the younger version of Tony Soprano in The Many Saints of Newark on HBO Max. He is also going to be in Beau is Afraid, coming out later in 2023.

Heather Graham (Hannah)

Moving on, we take a look at Heather Graham, who plays Hannah. She’s been in many films that you might recognize her from, such as Six Degrees of Separation, Boogie Nights, Bowfinger, Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me, Horns and more. She also had a supporting role in Twin Peaks, and was in the shows Scrubs and Californication. 

Tahar Rahim (Omar) 

Tahar Rahim portrays Omar in Extrapolations, and this actor has already been all over in movies and television. Rahim is mainly known for his role as Judas in the film Mary Magdalene, as well as his big part in The Looming Tower, but he’s also been in movies such as The French Prophet, and the miniseries, The Serpent.

Matthew Rhys (Junior) 

Moving on, we take a look at Matthew Rhys, who plays Junior. Rhys is primarily known for his starring role in the famed drama, The Americans, but he’s also been in films such as The Edge of Love, The Post, A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, and more. He’s also the titular character in Perry Mason, and has done voice work in the underrated animated show, The Owl House. 

David Schwimmer (Harris Goldblatt) 

Harris Goldblatt is played by David Schwimmer, and I’m pretty sure most of us are aware of Schwimmer from his time as part of the Friends cast. However, he has plenty of movie work under his belt, including the Madagascar series, Nothing But the Truth, The Pallbearer and more. He was also a part of Band of Brothers, and was one of the stars of The People vs. O.J. Simpson. 

Diane Lane (Martha)

Next up is Diane Lane, who plays Martha and has been in many, many movies. Some of her biggest hits have been Man of Steel, The Cotton Club, Streets of Fire, The Lady Beware, and Hollywoodland. 

Edward Norton (Jonathan) 

Edward Norton plays Jonathan, and he has been around in the film industry for some time. Recently, he was a part of the Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery cast, and was also the lead in The Incredible Hulk, but has starred in many other movies, like Fight Club, Bourne Legacy, and The Grand Budapest Hotel, among others. 

Mia Maestro (Mariama)

Moving on, we have Mia Maestro, who plays Mariama in Extrapolations. Maestro is primarily known for her role in shows such as The Strain and Alias, as well as her parts in The Twilight Saga, and her role in Frida.

Indira Varma (Gita) 

Indira Varma plays Gita and was also a part of the Game of Thrones cast, but has been in other television roles such as on Obi-Wan Kenobi, the Amazon original, Carnival Row, Luther, Human Target and more. She was also in movies like Silent Hours and the Disney+ original movie, The One and Only Ivan. 

Adarsh Gourav (Guarav)

Next up on the list is Adarsh Gourav, who plays Guarav in Extrapolations. The actor is primarily known for his work in Bollywood, as he’s appeared in many Hindi films, but he was also in the American film, The White Tiger in 2020. He was also a part of the online web series, Hostel Daze. 

Keri Russell (Olivia Drew)

Another big name here is Keri Russell, who plays Olivia Drew. Russell is also known from her starring role in The Americans (alongside her real-life partner, Matthew Rhys), as well as her breakout starring role on the college show, Felicity, but has since appeared in many other shows and movies. Most recently, she starred in Cocaine Bear, but has also appeared in films such as Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, We Were Soldiers, and more. 

Gemma Chan (Natasha)

Moving on, we take a look at Gemma Chan, who plays Natasha. Chan was also a part of the Eternals cast, but has appeared in many other movies, such as Don’t Worry Darling, Crazy Rich Asians, Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them, Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit and more. She was also a part of the Humans television series. 

Marion Cotillard (Sylvie)

Marion Cotillard is a French actress who plays Sylvie on Extrapolations. Cotillard is primarily known for her Academy Award-winning role in La Vie en Rose, but has been in many other movies such as Taxi, Inception, The Immigrant, Midnight in Paris, The Dark Knight Rises and others. 

Eiza Gonzalez (Elodie)

Next up on the list is Eiza Gonzalez, who plays Elodie in Extrapolations. The young actress was primarily known for her role in Spanish telenovelas for many years, but has since started to break into Hollywood with many roles in movies such as Baby Driver, I Care A Lot, Godzilla vs. Kong, and 2022’s Ambulance. 

Tobey Maguire (Nicolas) 

You’d really have to be living under a rock to not know who Tobey Maguire is, and thankfully, he’s back in action in Extrapolations, where he plays Nicolas. Maguire is primarily known for his years as Spider-Man, where he played Peter Parker for three films and reprised the role in Spider-Man: No Way Home, but he’s done plenty in the acting industry besides that. 

His biggest roles besides Spider-Man include those in The Great Gatsby, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Pleasantville, The Cider House Rules, Brothers, and many more. He was also recently in 2022’s Babylon, which was nominated for an Academy Award. 

Forest Whitaker (Augustin)

Last but not least, we take a look at Forest Whitaker, who has been in the industry for some time and appeared in many, many big-time movies. He plays Augustin in Extrapolations. Some of Whitaker’s biggest roles thus far have included parts in movies like Platoon, The Great Debaters, The Butler, Respect, The Crying Game, Good Morning Vietnam, and The Last King of Scotland. 

Whitaker has also appeared in such big films like Rogue One: A Star Wars Series, and was also in Black Panther. Currently, he stars in the series, Godfather of Harlem. 

Keep in mind that this isn’t even the complete cast, so if you’re at all interested in seeing anyone else that might not be on this list, be sure to check it out at Apple TV+. Either way, Extrapolations is looking to be an intense show – and with an even more intense cast list. It’ll still be fun, that’s for sure.

Based on the comic book series of the same name, this long-in-the-works comic book adaptation is finally here, and it's coming out at a curious time. Moreover, away from film, Diane Lane was Emmy-nominated for her performances in CBS's Lonesome Dove and HBO's Cinema Verite. She also played Annette Shepherd in Netflix's House of Cards. Also, Lane could be seen in Amazon Prime's The Romanoffs.

Ashley Romans (Agent 355)

In the role of Agent 355, Yorrick's bodyguard, Ashley Romans plays a diligent and vigilant character in Y: The Last Man. Previously, the actress played Tabitha Hutter in AMC's NOS4A2. Additionally, Romans took on the title role in Hermione Granger and the Quarter-Life Crisis. She also was seen as Alex in Showtime's Shameless. Romans' other television credits include I'm Dying Up Here and Insignificant Other. Outside of TV, furthermore, she appeared in Christmas Crime Story, along with several short films, including 2016's TV Junkie and August Ninth, 2019's The Devil Lives in Clarkesville County, 2020's Salt in the Wound and First-Rounders, and, most recently, 2021's Lulu.

Ben Schnetzer (Yorick Brown)

Playing the part of Yorick Brown, an amateur escape artist and President Brown's son who becomes the last known biologically male human alive, Ben Schnetzer is the only person alive with a Y chromosome in Hulu's Y: The Last Man. Previously, Schnetzer starred in ABC's short-lived series, Happy Town. He also appeared in Epix's The Truth About the Harry Quebert Affair and guest-starred on NBC's Law & Order. Outside of TV, Schnetzer played Max Vandenburg in The Book Thief, Mark Ashton in Pride, and Khadgar in Warcraft. Additionally, the actor's other film credits include Snowden, The Death and Life of John F. Donovan, The Giant, Punk's Dead: SLC Punk 2, Goat, Saint Judy, The Grizzlies, 7 Days in Entebbe, Ben's Plan, and The Journey Is the Destination.

Olivia Thirlby (Hero Brown)

As Hero Brown, Yorick's paramedic sister, Olivia Thirlby plays a life-saving character in Y: The Last Man. Previously, Thirlby played Lucy Kittridge in Amazon Prime's Goliath. Additionally, the TV actress appeared in Kidnapped, Bored to Death, and The L Word: Generation Q. Furthermore, Thirlby lent her voice to MTV's short-lived Good Vibes.

Moreover, outside of television, Olivia Thirlby is most well-known for her performances in Juno, Dredd, The Darkest Hour, Margaret, United 93, and The Wackness. Her other film credits include Snow Angels, No Strings Attached, The Stanford Prison Experiment, Chappaquiddick, Welcome to Happiness, Nobody Walks, 5 to 7, Above the Shadows, Solitary Man, The Secret, What Goes Up, and Just Before I Go. Furthermore, Thirlby can also be seen in Love Comes Lately, White Orchid, Damascus Cover, Between Us, The Wedding Ringer, Red Knot, Being Flynn, Breaking Upwards, The Answer Man, Uncertainty, and New York, I Love You. Next, she's currently filming You Above All.

Amber Tamblyn (Kimberly Campbell Cunningham)

In the role of Kimberly Campbell Cunningham, a best-selling conservative writer who works hard to install a new president who will do whatever it takes to bring back the lost world, Amber Tamblyn plays a politically savvy person in FX's Y: The Last Man. Most notably, the actress was Tony-nominated for her lead performance in 2009's Reasons to be Pretty. Her other notable theater credits include Blue Ridge, Summer and Smoke, The Big Knife, Blasted, Marie Antoinette, and In the Wake. Away from the stage, Ireland played Julia Bowman in Amazon Prime's Sneaky Pete. Currently, she can be seen in Netflix's The Umbrella Academy in the role of Sissy Cooper. Ireland's other TV credits include Homeland, Mildred Pierce, Masters of Sex, Girls, and The Slap.

Furthermore, in film, Marin Ireland was notably seen in Rachel Getting Married, Side Effects, The Irishman, The Miseducation of Cameron Post, Glass Chin, Light from Light, 28 Hotel Rooms, Piercing, and Hell or High Water. Last year, the film actress starred in The Dark and the Wicked, The Empty Man, Nora Highland, and The Man in the Woods.

Diana Bang (Dr. Allison Mann)

As Dr. Allison Mann, an expert geneticist looking to discover the cause of the plague and why Yorick survived, Diana Bang plays a driven and determined person in Hulu's Y: The Last Man. Most notably, the actress played Park Sook-yin in The Interview. Her other movie credits include Sorority Wars, Lost Lagoon, That Burning Feeling, No Clue, The Tree Inside (which she co-produced), The Cleanse, Entanglement, Status Update, Boundaries, and The Age of Adulting. Last year, Bang appeared in Coffee & Kareem.

Additionally, outside of film, Diana Bang has a recurring role in Syfy's Resident Alien as Nurse Ellen. Her other television credits include The Astronauts, Away, The Baby-Sitters Club, The Order, You Me Her, Michelle's, Unspeakable, Fast Layne, Bates Motel, Eve of Destruction, and Fringe. Furthermore, Bang is a member of the Vancouver sketch comedy group, Assaulted Fish, and she has worked behind the camera on a few short films. Namely, the comedienne co-wrote, directed, and produced 2018's Karaoke Mamas. Also, Bang wrote 2009's Dandy Lions and directed 2019's In Loving Memory.

Elliot Fletcher (Sam Jordan)

In the role of Sam Jordan, Hero's performance artist best friend, Elliot Fletcher plays a notable character in Y: The Last Man. Most notably, he's known for his recurring roles in MTV's Faking It, Freeform's The Fosters, and Showtime's Shameless. Additionally, the TV actor plays Jake Barlow in TNT's Tell Me Your Secrets and guest-starred on Hulu's Runaways and truTV's Adam Ruins Everything. Outside of television, Fletcher was seen in Tekkonkinkreet and short films like 2017's The Station and 2018's Brother X. He also appeared in last year's World of Warcraft: Shadowlands. Furthermore, Fletcher was a talking head and a creative consultant on Netflix's Disclosure: Trans Lives on Screen.

Juliana Canfield (Beth Deville)

Taking on the role of Beth Deville, Yorrick's girlfriend, Juliana Canfield plays a part of Yorrick's romantic past in FX's Y: The Last Man. Away from this series, the actress plays Jess Jordan in HBO's Succession. Also, Canfield appeared in Apple TV+'s Amazing Stories. Outside of TV, she starred in 2019's Oscar-winning short film, The Neighbors' Window. Additionally, Canfield can be seen in Plain Fiction and last year's The Assistant and On the Rocks. Moreover, the actress can be heard in 2019's short film, South of Bix.

Quincy Kirkwood (Mackenzie Brady)

As Mackenzie Brady, Nora Brady's daughter, Quincy Kirkwood plays a supporting role in Y: The Last Man. Previously, the child actress starred in Netflix's In the Shadow of the Moon. She can also be seen in Netflix's Creeped Out and 2020's short film, Dear Jesus.

Jess Salgueiro (Christine Flores)

In the role of Christine Flores, President Jennifer Brown's new assistant, Jess Salgueiro has a recurring part in Hulu's Y: The Last Man. Most notably, Salgueiro has a recurring role as Chandra Wei in Amazon Prime's The Expanse. The actress also has recurring roles in The Boys, Workin' Moms, Mary Kills People, Channel Zero, Letterkenny, Saving Hope, Orphan Black, The Strain, and Jupiter's Legacy. Additionally, Salgueiro starred in Netflix's Tiny Pretty Things. Recently, she was a guest star on ABC's The Good Doctor.

Furthermore, away from TV, Jess Salgueiro starred in 2020's Canadian Strain. She can also be seen in Mouthpiece, I'll Take Your Dead, American Hangman, Mary Goes Round, A Sunday Kind of Love, A Date with Miss Fortune, Two Deaths of Henry Baker, Sugar Daddy, and Come Play. Earlier this year, Salgueiro appeared in Dark Web: Cicada 3301, Drifting Snow, and the short film, Two to Look, One to See. Next, she'll be seen in the short films, Unlicensed and Little Bird. In Thomas Bezucha’s Let Him Go, Kevin Costner and Diane Lane prove to be an awesome duo, playing a pair of grandparents who find themselves on a dangerous mission to rescue their grandson and his mother (their widowed step-daughter) from the vicious and controlling family of her new husband. The stars have wonderful chemistry together, with matching grit and determination that round out the film’s drama – and what adds an interesting extra layer of history to their performances is that in another fictional universe they are known as Jonathan and Martha Kent.

While it’s not something that you necessarily think about while watching Let Him Go, it is funny to realize that Kevin Costner and Diane Lane previously worked together playing two of the most iconic parents in comic book history in Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice. Admittedly it wasn’t something that Thomas Bezucha was actively thinking about when casting the film, as he hadn’t actually seen those movies prior to making the neo-western, but when I had the opportunity to interview the filmmaker last week he had this to say when I asked him about concerns and advantages of the pair’s blockbuster history:

It highlights a funny conundrum that Hollywood has faced for almost its entire existence. Every film wants to hire the biggest names – but during the actual experience of watching said film the idea is for the audience to totally forget about all of the characters its stars have previously played. Let Him Go’s situation clearly takes things an extra step by having two leads who are together associated with a previous collaboration, but Kevin Costner and Diane Lane are so wonderfully talented that they totally disappear into the roles of George and Margaret Blackledge, and it’s not something you’re thinking about as they go off on what is for them a life-or-death mission.

Let Him Go earned widespread critical acclaim last fall when it was released in theaters, but if you didn’t have the opportunity to check it out theatrically the good news is that it’s now available to watch at home. The movie was released digitally last month at all major retailers, and those of you looking to add a copy of it to your physical media collections will be able to do so on February 2 when it comes out on Blu-ray and DVD.

Kevin Costner and Diane Lane star as husband and wife living in the Midwest whose lives take a turn after an incident concerning their son. But no, it’s not a Man of Steel spinoff starring Ma and Pa Kent. Let Him Go is completely unrelated to their work in the DCEU, but it did inspire the actors to reunite for this weekend’s latest release.

Let Him Go follows Kevin Costner and Diane Lane as George and Martha (... another Man of Steel coincidence regarding the latter name), who are fresh off the tragic loss of their son. The couple go on a dangerous trip to retrieve their grandson, who is living with the shady Weboy clan in the Dakotas. Here’s how Man of Steel brought them back together, per Kevin Costner to EW:

Of course, as the Superman story goes, Jonathan Kent must die in Clark’s adulthood and leave Martha Kent by her lonesome on the farm. The moment made for a memorable scene in the 2013 movie, which differed from the typical get-sick-and-die narrative of Kal-El’s adopted Earth dad. Jonathan gets killed in a tornado trying to save others, and I cry every time I watch it! Take a look:

Kevin Costner played a small, but key role in Man of Steel, but it didn't allow him to work as much with Diane Lane as he wanted to. Enter Let Him Go. On the surface, it may look like the couple crafted a Ma and Pa Kent scenario just to do it, but the movie is based on a novel by Larry Watson. Although it has been labeled a Western, neither Costner or Lane define it as such.

Though Kevin Costner and Diane Lane could technically go back to their roles of the Kents in flashback sequences in a future DCEU movie. When CinemaBlend spoke to Costner ahead of the film’s release, our own Michael Reyes asked if the actor may return to the upcoming Snyder Cut of Justice League, the legendary actor said the following:

It’s never too late to learn something new, whether you’re an academic, an actor or just any other person going about their chosen path of business. Acting in particular is one of those fields where the more diverse your pool of co-stars happens to be, the more you can learn about the craft. Diane Lane is someone who loves to teach this particular lesson, especially after her experience in the film Let Him Go inspired her to swing for the fences and up her already impressive game.

I was able to speak with Ms. Lane recently on behalf of CinemaBlend, as the press day for Let Him Go put us both in a virtual room to chat about writer/director Thomas Bezucha’s western noir drama. At the heart of that very story is a conflict that, mostly, involves Diane Lane’s Margaret Blackledge and her quest to rescue her grandson and former daughter-in-law from another vicious mother, played by Lesley Manville. When asking her about that core maternal storyline, Lane absolutely had to gush about her co-stars. Starting with the actor who played Lorna, the woman who married into the Blackledge family and is whisked away from them in quick fashion, Diane Lane told the following story about how she and co-star Kevin Costner took their cues from a dynamic young performer:

In the role of Lorna Blackledge, Kayli Carter plays a maternal figure the audience is always questioning. As we see her first married to the Blackledge’s son, Lorna is still learning the ropes of motherhood, with Margaret pitching in as much as she can to help raise her boy. So by the time Let Him Go jumps years ahead in the story, we see Lorna remarried and roped into the Weboy family.

With a new set of relatives who want to keep her and her son closer to their own interests, it’s the random disappearance of Lorna and Jimmy that puts Diane Lane’s Margaret Blackledge and her husband George (Kevin Costner) on a road trip into the den of the Weboy clan. While a majority of Let Him Go is focused on the tender relationship between Lane and Kevin Costner, and how that family’s values play into trying to rescue Lorna and Jimmy, there’s a strong core of maternal instinct that binds this film’s entirety.

Though the main event is Margaret’s clash of wills with Blanche Weboy, Lesley Manville is a formidable force of adversary in Let Her Go. The complete opposite of Kaylie Carter’s Lorna, Blanche is an imposing woman who isn’t afraid to offer you pork chops, while secretly wishing you’d make a fatal error in opposing her. Another powerhouse performance in a film that boasts its fair share of stellar acting, Diane Lane was also blown away by Ms. Manville’s methodology, sharing her awe thusly:

Margaret Blackledge is the functional protagonist of Let Him Go, as while the journey is made by herself and her husband, it’s Margaret’s actions that drive the movie along. Which means that Diane Lane gets to be the center of the universe that Thomas Bezucha lovingly adapts from Larry Watson’s novel, as well as smack dab in the middle of the mothering continuum shown in the finished product. Striking a balance between Kayli Carter’s meek and subdued nature, and Lesley Manville’s full-tilt villainy, Ms. Lane gets to play both sides with intensity; something that she would obviously credit her co-stars with helping keep in check.

Just as every viewing experience is a lesson to be learned by the audience, making movies like Let Him Go is a chance for actors like Diane Lane to bank more experiences that continue to enrich her career. As Lane’s potential return to the fold in Zack Snyder’s Justice League is on the horizon, the effects of some of those lessons could be seen as early as 2021. Meanwhile, if you want to see Diane Lane and Kevin Costner reunite on the big screen, Let Him Go is in theaters now, should you be interested and feel safe enough to return to the movies to see it yourself. The current health crisis has dealt a heavy blow to the film industry in 2020, but that’s not to say we’ve been entirely without movies since March rolled around. Plenty of cinematic content have transitioned to being VOD or streaming offerings, and there are enough theaters still open that some movies are getting to play on the big screen. Soon the Kevin Costner and Diane Lane-led Let Him Go with be among that group, but reviews for that film are already flowing in.

For those who haven’t heard about Let Him Go, it follows a retired sheriff and his wife, after grieving the death of their son, setting out to find their daughter-in-law and only grandson. So how is Let Him Go being received? So far, it’s received a decent amount of positive reception, though it won’t necessarily go down in the film history books as an exceptional feature.

Starting off, CinemaBlend’s own Mike Reyes awarded Let Him Go an impressive 4.5 out of 5 stars in his review, calling it “one of the standout films of 2020” and a great re-teaming of Kevin Costner and Diane Lane, who previously worked together on 2013’s Man of Steel.

Michael Phillips from Chicago Tribune was similarly impressed with Let Him Go, commending not just the performances, but also the production design and location work. However, Phillips noted that there are some anachronisms with the way its characters behave, and that older audiences were more likely to respond to the movie

Associated Press’ Jake Coyle fell into more mixed territory on Let Him Go, giving 2.5 out of 4 stars. Coyle liked with the performances Kevin Costner and Diane Lane gave, but the main conflict between their characters and a rival family is “managed awkwardly.”

John DeFore from The Hollywood Reporter wasn’t too keen on Let Him Go, calling it a “heartfelt, handsomely made but unconvincing tonal mash-up” that is interesting to watch in the first half, but trails off during the second half.

Finally, Vanity Fair’s Richard Lawson described Let Him Go as a “B-movie” that probably won’t score any awards buzz, but is nonetheless the kind of movie “perfectly appropriate for the current moment” and worth watching, if not necessarily in a theater right now.

Mention the word “western” when describing a film like writer/director Thomas Bezucha’s Let Him Go, and certain pictures already start to form in the head of a potential audience member. Long rides on horseback, shades of frontier justice, and armed showdowns at high noon are some of the most frequent motifs that people almost feel are required when invoking that historic flavor of movie. While this cinematic adaptation of author Larry Watson’s does include all of those elements, the total package is additionally infused with a noirish element that crackles with both energy and character, making for one of the standout films of 2020.

Let Him Go is, at its heart, a story of family. After the untimely passing of their son, Margaret and George Blackledge (Diane Lane and Kevin Costner) embark on a journey to find their now remarried daughter-in-law (Kayli Carter) and their young grandson after they’ve seemingly taken off. As the couple gets closer to finding their family, they increasingly run afoul of a local family of influence: the Weboys. Headed by the intimidating Blanche (Lesley Manville), the Weboys are a threat, but the Blackledges won’t leave without a fight, and if they’re not careful, they just might get it.

Let Him Go is as big in scope as it is in emotion.

Even in the shadow of the limited theatrical market that’s available for a film like Let Him Go to debut in right now, Thomas Bezucha’s movie is rich in visual scope. From the intimacy of the Blackledge family residence and the infamous pork chop summit that introduces us to Blanche’s full family of villains, to the wide open spaces of the Midwest, every setting is left with a sense of grandeur that truly feels like a cinematic experience. Should you feel safe enough to head out to a movie theater, Let Him Go is a fantastic canvas to feast your eyes upon.

Should you be waiting to see the film in a home theater environment, it plays just as beautifully, as the eye for detail present brings a personal approach to the story's wider scope. As a consequence, the energy packed into the project comes through no matter how it’s viewed. While most of that is thanks to the visual acumen on display, there’s also a strong current of character work that propels the drama of Let Him Go with great confidence.

Diane Lane and Kevin Costner have insane chemistry as co-stars.

A huge part of what makes Let Him Go such a triumph is the fact that it reteams actors Diane Lane and Kevin Costner, working side by side for the first time since their pairing in Man of Steel. The reunion nails all of the elements present into a cohesive harmony, as Margaret and George’s relationship makes up the heart of Let Him Go’s story, and by casting Lane and Costner in those roles investing in the journey is all the easier. What’s even better is that both performers stand on their own two feet in their respective parts, with moments that allow them to shine individually on top of their collaboration.

Let Him Go doesn’t merely rest on the charm of Diane Lane or Kevin Costner, though, as there’s a deep bench of performers that weave through the thrilling story. Lesley Manville is a particular standout, as her Blanche Weboy runs a tight ship when it comes to handling her kin, and with a measure of menace that’s always waiting for an excuse to be released. Manville give Blanche a believable veneer of good nature, but even behind her smile the audience can sense the true nature of every word she utters.

Writer/director Thomas Bezucha delivers a top notch western with Let Him Go.

An absolutely stunning drama that harkens back to films of a bygone era, Let Him Go delivers a western noir masterpiece that grips the heart every step of the way. Thomas Bezucha’s adaptation skills continue to serve him well, as his literary-inspired character drama finds a way to make every interaction a battle, and every set piece a taut exercise in tension. Using Kevin Costner and Diane Lane’s natural ease as co-stars, on top of Lesley Manville’s ability to bring a very human adversary to life, characters make Let Him Go an urgent fight for family.

Audiences are probably gearing up to enjoy the traditional offerings of cinematic gravitas that start to take hold of the pre-prestige season marketplace, and Let Him Go presents itself as something that gladly fits the bill. But behind the easily marketable facade is a richly rewarding experience that shows exactly how they don’t make ‘em why they used to. By time you’ve finished watching Let Him Go, you’ll find yourself questioning why they don't.

Half a year after Netflix brought Diane Lane and Greg Kinnear into the mix for House of Cards' final season, the service has unveiled what roles the actors will play. Kinnear will play Bill Shepherd, and Lane will play his sister Annette. The two represent a family that plays a powerful role in molding the American political landscape. Apparently, Claire will attempt to get on the two's good side, as she's seen holding up Annette's hand in victory in the picture below:

Annette Shepherd and her brother Bill have inherited Shepherd Unlimited, and as mentioned, they are the type of mega-rich family who can use their wealth to influence American politics. The two are said to have a "vision for America," as well as a complicated relationship with the Underwood family. The details of that relationship are unknown, but it sounds as though Claire will have to play nice with the Shepherd family throughout House of Cards Season 6 or face a very powerful opponent at a time where her family is under a microscope.

If the Shepherds have known the Underwoods for a long time than lord only knows what convoluted schemes the two families have cooked up in the past. The two might have surfaced now that Frank is gone to try and get the upper hand or take advantage of who they assume is weaker, Claire. House of Cards has proven that's far from the case. It looks like the Shepherds may learn that soon enough as Claire appears to be giving Bill Shepherd a lecture while holding up a ring between the two of them:

Of course, perhaps it's too soon to label the Shepherds as enemies, as Frank and Claire would've never gotten this far without a few friends in high places. Diane Lane and Greg Kinnear's characters could be one of those allies Claire calls on now that things are rough, and she's willing to pay a price in exchange for their patronage or other help. Netflix's labeling of the Shepherds as "The family that preys together" appears to indicate there's a price to play whether they're friend or foe and that they aren't in Claire's life currently just out of the goodness of their own hearts.

What the Shepherds want is unknown, although their vision of America's future could involve Annette's son Duncan Shepherd. Duncan, who is played by American Horror Story: Apocalypse star Cody Fern, is described as "ambitious" and "devoted," and is said to be among a new generation of future power players in D.C. politics. Fern's Duncan is seen in another newly released photo for House of Cards, where he appears to be in a tense conversation with Greg Kinnear's Bill:

After years of dashed hopes and false starts, the acclaimed graphic novel from Bryan K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra, Y: The Last Man, might finally be heading to the screen at FX, under the official title, Y. The network announced today who will be starring in the pilot, and there's some great talent involved, meaning that we're way closer to actually seeing this post-apocalyptic story finally get adapted for the TV-viewing masses than we've ever been before. Let's start with the biggest name that's currently been cast.

Actress Diane Lane, pictured above in her recent role in the film Paris Can Wait, has taken an important part in Y. As Senator Jennifer Brown in the adaptation, Lane will take on the part of a junior senator in her first term who has already made quite the name for herself as someone who is more than willing to put aside political machinations to keep her personal ideals intact. Jennifer also just so happens to be the mother of the title character, Yorick Brown, and his sister Hero. Lane received an Oscar nomination for her leading role in Unfaithful in 2003, and has become known recently for her work as Martha Kent in Man of Steel, Batman v Superman and Justice League.

Next up, in the all important eponymous role of Yorick (also known as Y) will be actor Barry Keoghan. Y is described as being a young man who easily uses his sense of humor to try to divert attention away from his problems, which are actually quite plentiful, as he appears to be the only male mammal to have survived a worldwide plague that wiped out those with the Y chromosome. Keoghan has made a wonderful name for himself recently with his work in films like Dunkirk, American Animals and The Killing of a Sacred Deer.

As Yorick's sister, Hero, actress Imogen Poots will take on the part of the hard-as-nails EMT with severe emotional trauma that frequently leads her to abandon what should be strict barriers of professional and personal conduct. Poots is best known to American audiences for her time on the Showtime series Roadies, and has also appeared in Green Room, Fright Night and Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping.

Lashana Lynch, seen above in her role as Rosaline Capulet in the Shonda Rhimes series Still Star-Crossed, has signed on to play the badass Agent 355 in Y. Her secret service agent is known for doing her job extremely well and with the highest level of professionalism, even when circumstances are dire and very unexpected. Coming up for Lynch is a co-starring role in the highly anticipated Captain Marvel next year.

Marin Ireland, best recognized from her role on the Amazon series Sneaky Pete, will be taking on the role of Nora in the show. Nora is the right hand and senior assistant to the president, and someone who's very skilled at navigating Washington's power structure while maintaining a balanced family life. Ireland has also been seen in Elementary, Girls, Law & Order: SVU and the film Hell or High Water, among other projects.

Rounding out the current cast for Y is relative newcomer Juliana Canfield as Beth. Beth is a farm girl who moved to New York to get a taste of the big city, becoming a Brooklyn-based knife maker who forms a bond with Yorick. Canfield has most recently been seen in the HBO drama Succession.

Production on House of Cards' final season has finally resumed. The show hit a major snag last year with the loss of its star Kevin Spacey, but now it sounds like things are back on track. Not only that, but it also seems that the House of Cards cast has officially grown by two, as Diane Lane and Greg Kinnear have both joined the Netflix-based political series.

At this point, no information has been revealed about who Diane Lane is specifically playing in her upcoming tenure on House of Cards. Having said that, knowing the actress' resume -- which includes DCEU films like Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, as well as movies like The Perfect Storm and Hollywoodland, there's a lot to get excited about. She's also no stranger to the small screen world, as she will also appear in Matthew Weiner's The Romanoffs later this year.

In addition to Diane Lane, Greg Kinnear has also joined House of Cards for a similarly undisclosed role. Like Lane, Kinnear has a long history on the big and small screen, with roles in projects like As Good As It Gets, Little Miss Sunshine, and the recent Philip K. Dick TV adaptation, Electric Dreams.

Looking beyond these two newcomers to the House of Cards world, Netflix has also announced that most of the show's previous cast will return as well. Among these stars are Robin Wright, Michael Kelly, Patricia Clarkson, Jayne Atkinson and Constance Zimmer.

Obviously, we cannot talk about the new additions to the House of Cards cast without also talking about Kevin Spacey. As many of you already know, Netflix severed ties with the Baby Driver actor last year following allegations of sexual misconduct leveled against him by Star Trek Discovery's Anthony Rapp. As a result of this development, Spacey (and, by extension, Frank Underwood) has been removed from House of Cards, and the show will continue without him by refocusing its story on other characters, chiefly Robin Wright's Claire Underwood, and introducing these new actors and their characters to replenish the ranks of the series. This will allow Netflix to finish up its run with an eight-episode season.

As Martha "Why did you say that name?" Kent, Diane Lane has been part of the DCEU longer than many of its other actors. She has watched the cinematic universe evolve through her appearances in Man of Steel and Batman v Superman, and she will soon return for Zack Snyder's Justice League. Now it looks like Lane has finally seen the DC team-up movie, and she's apparently a huge fan. Lane opened up during a recent appearance on Today and explained :

Any and all reactions to Justice League remain under embargo by Warner Bros., so these remarks by insiders continue to represent our best look into what works in the film. Of course, because of that embargo, Diane Lane also makes sure to keep any significant plot details under tight wraps. Having mentioned this, it's still encouraging to know that Diane Lane seems genuinely "impressed" by what she has seen from the first-ever team-up of DC's most iconic superhero team in terms of the film's surprises, as well as its performances.

Getting more into the specifics of what she liked about Justice League, Diane Lane continued in her appearance on Today and emphasized her enthusiasm for the characters. Lane said:

That part of Diane Lane's Justice League review seems particularly important because, in the simplest of terms, it lays out how the DCEU will evolve moving forward. In the same way that Dawn of Justice introduced audiences to a live-action Trinity, so too has this film assembled a fully-formed League. This film will pave the way for solo movies like Aquaman and The Flash: Flashpoint, so a positive reception will go a long way towards putting DC in a position in which it can stand alongside more fully-formed competitors like the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the X-Men universe.

It seemed a little odd yesterday when a clip surfaced of Diane Lane apparently criticizing Justice League and stating that it would not be as good as The Avengers. Unsurprisingly, clarification of that comment is required. It seems that when Lane appeared to claim that Justice League would not be as good a film, what she was really saying was that she would not comment on how the two films would compare. Apparently, she's never even seen The Avengers. In part, the statement from her representatives reads...

In a recent appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen Diane Lane was asked by a caller if she would reveal some information about Justice League and if the film would be better than The Avengers. Her answer to both questions was "no," followed by the "sorry to disappoint" comment. At the time, it seemed she was saying she was sorry to disappoint that Justice League wouldn't be good, but this makes a lot more sense. The statement was provided to ComicBook.com who asked for comment.

The entire situation with Diane Lane's comments seemed odd, so we're far from shocked that this clarification came quickly. Diane Lane is a Hollywood pro and the idea that she would make a negative comment about her own movie before it was even finished simply didn't make sense. It's unlikely Lane would even know with any degree of certainty how the film is going to turn out, considering it doesn't get released for several more months.

Live shows like Watch What Happens can lead to interesting accidental confessions due to the live nature of the show but they can also lead to random flubs, and this appears to have been much more the second situation. Diane Lane may have simply not heard the phone call clearly over the speaker, it would be far from the first time something like that has happened, and thought she was answering a slightly different question. Certainly, if she's never even seen The Avengers then she can't answer a question that compares them, even if she was willing to do it with complete honesty.

In the end, the question of which movie is "better" isn't even that relevant. Fans want Justice League to be great, and it still can be. Even if many people still believe that The Avengers ends up better, that's not necessarily a knock on the overall quality of Justice League. They can both end up as great movies and we hope they will be. We'll find out when Justice League hits theaters November 17.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice was quite an event, but Justice League officially marks the first big superhero team-up in the DC Extended Universe. Even though Justice League's story and tone will be unique, the comparisons to the The Avengers are inevitable, as the Marvel Cinematic Universe 2012 blockbuster proved that these team-ups can work on the big screen. In fact, Diane Lane, who will reprise Martha Kent in Justice League, doesn't believe that DC and Warner Bros' fall offering will be better than The Avengers. When recently asked if she could give any spoilers about Justice League and if she thinks it will be better than The Avengers, Lane answered:

Diane Lane recently appeared on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen alongside Jim Parsons, and during the After Show Q&A portion, she gave the above response to a caller. To be fair, it's possible that Diane Lane mis-answered or was kidding, but as you can see in the clip below (at the 1:48 mark), Lane took a moment to think before responding. It looks like she's definitely sure about how she thinks Justice League will compare to The Avengers, i.e. it won't measure up. Maybe she'll change her mind when the final cut has been put together and she can see it in an early screening. Still, there might be some Warner Bros execs who aren't pleased about her Justice League response, but since she also didn't divulge any spoilers, maybe they won't make a big deal out of it. Diane Lane has been part of the DC Extended Universe since the beginning, debuting as Martha Kent in Man of Steel and returning last year in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. In the latter movie when her son Clark was struggling with his life as Superman, she told him that he could be whoever he wanted to be, pointing out that he didn't owe the world anything. Later on, Martha was kidnapped by Lex Luthor, but saved by Batman before Anatoly Knyazev could kill her, and during Superman's funeral, she gave Lois Lane the engagement ring that Clark planned to give her. How exactly Martha fits into Justice League remains to be revealed, though she'll be one of the many supporting characters from the heroes' personal lives. Warner Bros already has a number of DC movies in development (including Aquaman, which is currently shooting), but Justice League's critical and commercial performance will definitely dictate how the franchise is handled in the years after.

Justice League hits theaters on November 17, and in case you end up sharing Diane Lane's opinion about the movie, the Avengers saga in the MCU will continue on May 4, 2018 with Infinity War.

We all know Pretty Woman as the feel-good romantic comedy that saw Richard Gere and Julia Roberts fall in love and warm our hearts. But it was almost very different. In fact, the early drafts for Pretty Woman featured a dark and wary look at prostitution and sex in Los Angeles, while numerous actresses auditioned for the leading role before Roberts was cast. Diane Lane came close to starring as Vivian Ward, and she's now admitted that when she was in line for the film, it was for a completely different character, while Pretty Woman itself had a much darker ending, too. Diane Lane recalled:

Even though she got as far as trying on costumes as the character, Diane Lane ultimately had to pull out of production because of a scheduling conflict. At this point, those in control of Pretty Woman decided to take it in a different direction, which Diane Lane, who went on to appear in Vital Signs instead, described on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen as it being "Disney-fied."

But what did Pretty Woman almost entail? Well, the character of Vivian was originally intended to be a drug addict, and part of the deal that Richard Gere's Edward figured out with Vivian was for her to stay off cocaine for a week. Clearly this didn't quite work out for Vivian, as she ended up being kicked out of Edward's car, while the first ever version of the script ended with Vivian and Kit (Laura San Giacomo) boarding a bus and heading to Disneyland. There were even scenes of Vivian being confronted by drug dealers, and Edward then coming to her rescue.

However, the decision was soon made to make Vivian a more sympathetic character, and in the end it took the shape of a romantic-comedy with a fairy-tale tinge. This is no more apparent than in Pretty Woman's ending, where Richard decides to become a modern version of the knight on a white horse for Vivian, and arrives at her apartment. The rest, as they say, is movie history, and you can relive the scene in its beauty below.

That's a bit more uplifting than watching Julia Roberts getting kicked out a car. And since Pretty Woman went on to gross $463.4 million at the box office, earned Julia Roberts an Academy Award nomination, turned her into a star and helped rejuvenate the romantic comedy genre, it's safe to say that it was ultimately the correct decision, too.

For as long as we live, it's possible that no comic book movie moment will ever become quite as polarizing as the "Martha" scene in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. The fact that Batman (Ben Affleck) and Superman's (Henry Cavill) mothers share a first name (and that this revelation would somehow lead the Caped Crusader to show mercy on the Man of Steel) proved incredibly poignant for some members of the audiences and downright ridiculous for others. We may never get a clear cut answer as to which take on the scene is the correct opinion, but we can at least confirm that the real Martha appreciated what it was trying to do. Diane Lane recently opened up regarding the infamous scene and explained:

There you have it, folks; straight from the Martha's mouth. While Batman V Superman's Martha scene has drawn a line right down the middle of the comic book fandom, Diana Lane's recent comments to THR during a discussion about Justice League confirm that she enjoyed the moment and saw its merits. Batman and Superman are diametrically opposed characters in terms of ideology and methodology. For them to come together over a shared loss and a mutual understanding of family makes their ultimate reconciliation work for Lane on a raw, emotional level.

With all of that said, the underlying issues with the "Martha" scene from Dawn of Justice lie more in its execution than its core thesis. The dialogue in the sequence feels pretty rough, and the way the movie chooses to get Superman to say his mother's name doesn't seem natural at all. Beyond that, only a minute or two earlier in the scene, Batman directly acknowledges that he knows Superman has parents on Earth, which makes the reveal that their mothers share a name seem less than revelatory. With that in mind, those who criticize the scene often don't seem to have an issue with that the sequence tried to do; the criticism takes much more aim at the sheer awkwardness of the moment. In that light, even the most ardent DC fan would have to admit that the scene doesn't necessarily hit all of the right emotional beats.

With Batman and Superman now (presumably) on the same side, we will have to wait and see how the DCEU addresses the Martha issue when Zack Snyder's Justice League debuts later this year on November 17, 2017. The DC Extended Universe is a tricky place. Despite DC's iconography and some great casting choices, all three films so far have been met with icy critical receptions. But that hasn't stopped the DCEU from announcing more and more films, in an attempt to compete with the Marvel Cinematic Universe's well oiled machine. And the studio has still managed to book some great talent for their upcoming films, which makes the idea of potential crossovers almost mouth watering. And Diane Lane (aka Martha Kent) has got a few crossover ideas of her own.

Diane Lane recently spoke to THR about her role in the DCEU. In addition to discussing the controversial Martha moment from Batman v Superman, Lane revealed which member of the DCEU she'd like to share the screen with.

The Nicole that Diane Lane is referring to is none other than Academy Award winner Nicole Kidman. Kidman will make her DCEU debut in James Wan's Aquaman, where she'll be playing the title character's mother Queen Atlanna. And now it appears that Lane is hoping for double DC momma scene between the two characters in a future installment.

And honestly, I can't say I blame her. Nicole Kidman has been an A-list actress forever, and she's on a particularly hot streak at the moment. Her performance as Celeste in HBO's Big Little Lies is being considered a career best, with her Emmy nomination (and likely win) just around the corner. Plus, a scene between Martha Wayne and Atlanna would be a strangely fascinating mixture of worlds.

Of course, it's unlikely that a scene like that would ever truly happen. For starters, Queen Atlanna lives deep in the sea in Aquaman's home of Atlantis. She's unlikely to have much screen time on land, save to argue with her ex-husband (and Arthur's father), who is a human. So a scene where she somehow makes her way to Kansas to have a chat at Martha's diner seems a bit ridiculous.

Additionally, Martha Kent has mostly functioned outside the main action of the DCEU. She's Clark's anchor to the world, often advising her son on his massive responsibility as Superman. Batman v Superman saw her brought into the action when she was kidnapped by Lex Luthor, only to be rescued by Batman in one of the film's best scenes. And while she's presumably met Diana and Bruce during Clark's funeral, Martha isn't all that connected to the main narrative of the universe.

Alas, we'll just have to wait to see how both Queen Atlanna and Martha Kent function within the DCEU when their respective films hit theaters. It's hard to believe that Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice was released 5 months ago. Since the superhero team up film hit theaters, critics and fans everywhere have been debating and critiquing the quality of Zack Snyder's latest on screen adventure. While visually stunning, some of Batman v Superman's plot points have been a bit suspect, especially those happening in the third act of the film. The inclusion of Doomsday and Superman's fake death were both pretty weird choices, but they're both trumped by the bizarre way Superman and Batman finally became friends. That's right, I'm talking about the Martha scene.

Diane Lane, who plays Martha Kent in the DC Extended Universe, spoke during the special features of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice about how the now infamous Martha scene functioned within the movie.

Good old Diane Lane. It seems that those attached to Batman v Superman still really believe in Zack Snyder's vision for the movie. No matter how much critics and fans alike hated that particular scene.

Toward the conclusion of BVS, we saw Batman ready to fatally wound his Kryptonian his frenemy with a Kryptonite spear. Right before he could land the final blow on the Man of Steel, Supes cried out his mother's name, who has been kidnapped by Lex Luthor. Because Batman's late mother shares the same name, he decides not to kill Superman and the two quickly become united against Lex and Doomsday. This plot point baffled audiences, with people unable to suspend their disbelief to accept this resolve.

Despite Diane Lane's insistence and logic, I don't think I can get behind this particular aspect of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. I had fun seeing the movie in theaters, but that moment blew my mind.

Diane Lane is the third actress to play Superman’s adoptive mother, Martha Kent, in a theatrical movie. Just like in previous stories, she and her husband, Jonathan, found the baby Kal-El after his rocket landed on Earth, and they raised him as their son, Clark Kent. While Kevin Costner’s Jonathan has departed to the great beyond, Lane is still participating in the DCEU for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, but she still remembers the good times shooting Man of Steel, including an amusing moment when she saw Henry Cavill in his Superman suit.

During an interview with Collider, Diane Lane humorously recalled a stand out moment when they were shooting a scene in the brutal Illinois (meant to serve as Kansas) heat, and she looked over at Henry Cavill in costume and was overcome with deep feelings. She said:

Diane Lane went on to describe the sight of Henry Cavill in the Superman suit as “surreal” and an “indelible moment.” It was so much that when she filmed her next scene, the time from action to cut went by in a blur. Although folks have seen Superman on the big screen before, just being part of the production is a different experience, and seeing Cavill as the Last Son of Krypton clearly left an impact on the actress while she participated in Man of Steel. Though not long after, I imagine, she wanted some ice water to cool down in that punishing heat.

After counseling her son in Man of Steel and enduring rough treatment at the hands of General Zod and his followers, Diane Lane’s Martha Kent continues to play a role in Clark’s life in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. We’ve seen previews of her telling Clark that he can take any path he chooses with his life, and that he doesn’t owe this world a thing as Superman.

Unless you’re a critic or one of the lucky few who’ve attended a fan screening already, how Martha fits into the rest of the movie is still a mystery. Following Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, it hasn’t been revealed when/if Diane Lane will reprise the character. Since Man of Steel 2 isn’t a guarantee at this point, one of the Justice League movies would be he next best bet. Lois Lane is already reportedly in Justice League: Part One, and that movie will feature other supporting characters connected to the heroes, like Mera and Commissioner Gordon. Maybe then can fit a Martha Kent cameo somewhere.

Getting naked and baring it all in a movie can be a harrowing experience for an actor, and performers have a variety of reasons for keeping their clothes on, ranging from being uncomfortable to taking stand. As it turns out, Academy Award nominee Diane Lane has maybe the best excuse you’ve ever heard for not stripping down in Judge Dredd, you know, aside from not wanting to be seen naked in Judge Dredd.

The 1995 adaptation of the popular 2000 AD comic book is R-rated and full of violence, but not much in the way of nudity. It was an option, but, as Lane told Yahoo, she opted not to go that route out of concerns over how her ass would look compared to that of her co-star. She said:

This sounds like a solid reason to stay clothed to us. On screen nudity must be a nerve-wracking endeavor, to say the least, but who among us wants to go through all of that plus have to stand next to someone like Sylvester Stallone, who, even at 69-years-old (how is he 69?), still looks like he’s been chiseled out of a hunk of stone.

Diane Lane is 50-years-old, and if it feels like she’s been around for damn near forever, that’s because she has. Her career started at just 13, when she appeared opposite Sir Laurence Olivier in George Roy Hill’s A Little Romance. She then went on to star in the likes of cult favorite Ladies and Gentlemen, the Fabulous Stains and Francis Ford Coppola’s S.E. Hinton adaptations The Outsiders and Rumblefish, all before she was 20.

In a career that includes an Oscar nomination for her role in Adriane Lyne’s Unfaithful in 2002, and a role as Clark Kent’s mother in the DC Extended Universe, Judge Dredd may not be a high point (though I admittedly have a deep, weird love for that movie). It wasn’t particularly well received at the time, nor has it been embraced over the years. What the hell, they can’t all be hits, and she’s done just fine in the years since.

Lane has had a solid 2015, voicing the mother in Pixar’s smash hit Inside Out, and we’ll get to see her again shortly when she shows up in Trumbo, which could be a player come awards season. In 2016 she’ll reprise her Martha Kent role in the highly anticipated Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Pixar’s latest film, Inside Out, pulls at your heartstrings until the point where you’re an exposed ball of emotions, and that’s thanks in part to the incredible voice cast. The animation movie giant expertly positioned Amy Poehler as Joy, Phyllis Smith as Sadness, Bill Hader as Fear, Lewis Black as Anger, and Mindy Kaling as Disgust, and together they are the face of Inside Out. However, there’s a whole crop of incredible voice cameos that you might have missed if you weren’t using your ears. The film is a visual explosion of enthralling imagery, so it’s understandable if you weren’t able to connect all of the voices with their actors.

During the course of the film, we meet the emotions inside the head of a young girl named Riley and discover what happens when two of them — Joy and Sadness — are unceremoniously thrown out into the wilderness of her mind. As they attempt to get back to headquarters, they encounter a number of interesting and hilarious characters along the way, including imaginary friends, mind maintenance workers, and horrid abominations. (Ahem, Jangles the Clown.) Let’s shed some light on some familiar actors who brought some of these supporting players to life.

Flea

Character: Mind Worker Cop Jake

When Joy and Sadness are whisked away to the maze of Longterm Memory and the exciting Imagination Land, they encounter two Mind Worker Cops. One of them is named Jake and he gets his voice from off-the-wall musician Flea, a.k.a. Michael Peter Balzary. You might’ve missed the bass player, composer, and part-time actor because he barely had any lines, but just know that the same guy who performed naked with the Red Hot Chili Peppers at Woodstock is technically in a Pixar movie.

Richard Kind

Character: Bing Bong

You know Inside Out is a good movie when you care so much for what happens to not only an imaginary friend, but the imaginary friend of another person. Bing Bong is a ball of sunshine and rainbows, and he wouldn’t have been so without the voice of Richard Kind backing him. Turns out the Gotham City mayor has a heart of gold.

Rashida Jones

Character: Cool Girl’s Emotions

Oh, Ann, you beautiful tropical fish. Of course your real-life counterpart would be the one to voice all of the emotions living inside the coolest girl in school’s head. Everyone, including her best friend in the entire world, Leslie Knope (Amy Poehler's charater on Parks and Recreation), wants to be Rashida Jones, so it makes perfect sense that Riley’s Disgust is obsessed with impressing the Cool Girl and her emotions.

Frank Oz

Character: Subconscious Guard Dave

On the road back to headquarters, Joy and Sadness find themselves in Riley’s subconscious, which is manned by two guards, Frank and Dave. Funny enough, Frank is voiced by Dave Goelz, while Dave is voiced by the legendary puppeteer Frank Oz, the man behind The Muppet Movie, Sesame Street, and Yoda in Star Wars. Goelz is also a puppeteer, but, come on, it’s Yoda.

Paula Poundstone

Character: Forgetter Paula

One of the best scenes in the entire film involves the Forgetters, two hilarious little jellybean-looking mind workers who are in charge of transporting fading memories to Longterm Memory. Like, who needs most of the U.S. presidents we all memorized in fifth grade? The female Forgetter got her voice from stand-up comedian Paula Poundstone. And, off course, she needed an uproarious partner in crime.

Bobby Moynihan

Character: Forgetter Bobby

The SNL funny man voiced Chet in Pixar’s Monsters University, followed up by a voice role in the short film follow-up, Party Central, but Forgetter Bobby managed to top those characters with just a few short lines. And they involved getting rid of all those piano tunes Riley learned when she was younger — except, of course, for "Chopsticks" and "Heart and Soul."

John Ratzenberger

Character: Fritz

If you blink, you might miss John Ratzenberger brief cameo. In fact, even a misplaced, forceful breath will make him dissipate. The actor played Fritz, who, if you don’t know (and we had to look it up), is the cloud person Joy, Sadness, and Bing Bong meet in Cloud Town. Bing Bong takes a chunk out of his house, which causes a heated street confrontation. There’s always a role, no matter how big or small, for Ratzenberger in a Pixar movie.

Diane Lane

Character: Riley’s Mom

Diane Lane has mothered Superman, so there was no one more qualified to be the mother of Riley. Because almost all of the movie focuses on the young girl and her emotions, though we do get a few glimpses of the emotions living inside other people, we almost glazed over good ole mom and dad. It’s no wonder the matriarch of the household had such a comforting and calming voice.

Kyle MacLachlan

Character: Riley’s Dad

When Kyle MacLachlan isn’t battling S.H.I.E.L.D. agents as Calvin Zabo, and when he isn’t filming the upcoming Twin Peaks reboot, he’s the universal voice of dad. In Inside Out, his character gets a new job that forces his family to move to San Francisco, which is what causes all these major changes to happen to Riley and throws her emotions into flux. MacLachlan has one of those voices that makes you go, "Wait! Where do I know him from?" And the answer is Dale Cooper. If only he'd mentioned coffee or pie.

The film in which Batman and Superman will finally meet, which Zack Snyder confirmed today at Comic-Con, is technically a sequel to Man of Steel, and that means there will be a lot of familiar faces returning who don't wear a black cowl. In a press release today Warner Bros. confirmed not only that Batman will appear in the film, but that several key Man of Steel cast members will return, including Laurence Fishburne as Perry White, Diane Lane as Ma Kent, and of course, Amy Adams as Lois Lane.

They also confirmed in the release that, as we suspected, the new Batman has yet to be cast-- and you can probably finally put to rest your hopes that Christian Bale will reprise the role. Christopher Nolan and his producer wife Emma Thomas will be back, but only as executive producers this time, not as producers as they were on Man of Steel. No word yet on how that might change his relationship with the studio, but with Nolan starting work on Interstellar, it's likely he just doesn't have the time to be a hands-on producer.

Man of Steel made a lot of money at the box office, it has already topped nearly $622 million worldwide, but it actually proved pretty divisive with critics and audiences. Yet even those who didn't like the film seemed to have few complaints with the cast. Henry Cavill was well received as Superman and even the biggest cynics seem generally willing to see more of the rest of the cast as well. No matter where you stand on Man of Steel as a film, it's good to have these actors back...

Last we heard about casting for Zack Snyder's Superman reboot, both Kevin Costner and Viggo Mortensen were being looked at for separate roles. Deadline has received a press release from Warner Bros. announcing that Diane Lane has been cast as Superman's Earthly mother, Martha Kent, in the new Superman movie, which still has no official title. Lane will join Henry Cavill as the only other official cast member, Cavill, of course, playing the titular hero. As the story goes, Martha, along with her husband Jonathan, discovered the crashed rocket of the Kryptonian alien known as Kal-El and raised him as their son, always knowing that he was different. Costner, who may not have even been approached about the role yet, has been suggested to play the role of Jonathan Kent.

In addition to being stunningly beautiful, Diane Lane is an incredible actress who always elevates the work that she does. While have to imagine that there are some people out there that don't like the idea of her in the role (this is casting of a comic book movie after all), I personally love it.
