After a successful first season, Boston Blue is coming back for Season 2 on the 2026 TV schedule this fall. The Blue Bloods spinoff starring Donnie Wahlberg (as Danny Reagan) nabbed an early renewal in late 2025, not long after the series premiered. Now, less than two months after the surprising Season 1 finale, filming has officially kicked off on Season 2, and I love that Wahlberg is already teasing family dinners.

The family dinners were a highlight of Blue Bloods, with the familiar cop drama including them in every single episode, sometimes even more than once. Despite Boston Blue consisting of a mostly new cast in a new city, the dinners are still a tradition, albeit in a different way. Wahlberg took to his Instagram Stories on Friday to share a video from set, noting that they’re filming the first Shabat family dinner of the season, and this just made me so excited:

What really set Blue Bloods apart from other procedurals is that it was a family drama as much as it was a police show. It’s great that we’re seeing another family, the Silvers, in the spotlight while the Reagans remain mostly at the forefront as well. It makes so much sense to have Danny and Sean (Mika Amonsen) join the Silvers every week for Shabbat. The continued use of dinner scenes not only creates further creative tissue between the show and its parent series but, on their own, the scenes also serve as great character-driven moments.

Even though I love watching the scenes, filming the dinners doesn’t sound as pleasant. Of course, the cast probably has a good time, as evidenced by Wahlberg’s IG story, but they can also be intense. CinemaBlend even previously spoke with Amonsen, who revealed that some of his castmates became "ill" after eating too much briskets amid filming. Nevertheless, they're all professionals, and they manage to power through the scenes as necessary.

Hopefully, the cast has gotten a handle on the family dinners now that they’re in Season 2. Of course, there are still plenty of other major developments to consider when it comes to Boston Blue Season 2. For instance, we still need closure when it comes to that cliffhanger involving Brian Rodgers' car crash during the final moments of the Season 1 finale. There's also the matter of Lena Silver continuing to bond with her biological father and newly discovered half sister. And let's not forget the budding relationships between Sean and Penny & Mae Silver and Judge Elijah Robinson.

There's surely going to be a lot in store for the Reagans and the Silvers when the show returns, and I can't wait to see it. Right now, though, I'm just glad the series is officially back in production and that Donnie Wahlberg and the cast are already settling in for the dinner scenes.

As of now, CBS has not announced when exactly Boston Blue's second season will premiere this fall. The wait for more action and family dinners will be worth it, though. In the meantime, the first season is streaming with a Paramount+ subscription, along with all 14 seasons of Blue Bloods.

Blue Bloods may have ended in 2024, but the Reagan family legacy is far from over. The series has continued on with spinoff Boston Blue on the 2026 TV schedule, following Donnie Wahlberg’s Danny Reagan in the titular Massachusetts capital. It’s been a success so far, with a second season on the way later this year. However, the series was not originally pitched with Wahlberg until a network note changed things forever.

When Blue Bloods was canceled, many fans, and even cast members, advocated for more seasons. There had been reports that either a spinoff or a movie could be happening, and Boston Blue was officially announced in early 2025. Wahlberg previously revealed that the show didn’t start as a Blue Bloods spinoff, with creators Brandon Margolis and Brandon Sonnier developing a different family cop drama. The NKOTB member, meanwhile, was almost sent to Texas for a different Blue Bloods spinoff.

The series that the Brandons and Jerry Bruckheimer were floating around would have involved a police officer in L.A. moving to Boston to work with his son, a rookie cop at the BPD. While the idea was intriguing, CBS had one note that ended up changing the direction of the show to something much better, as Margolis recalled to the Television Academy, via TV Insider:

It sounds like the network jumped at the chance to make a Blue Bloods spinoff happen. They just needed to find the right concept, and the Brandons and Bruckheimer just so happened to have the perfect one. It just needed a few tweaks. Not surprisingly, they were all on board, and Sonnier couldn’t have been happier with how it played out:

It is pretty interesting to know that just one note really changed everything. It’s possible that we would have eventually gotten a Blue Bloods spinoff had Boston Blue not moved forward or stayed with the original pitch, but this is definitely better. While the show includes a mostly new cast, fans have seen some of their favorite Blue Bloods characters, and with Season 2 coming soon, it’s possible that even more will be appearing.

Knowing how Boston Blue came to be makes sense in terms of Wahlberg’s involvement. Since Blue Bloods was an ensemble, it was hard to predict who would get a spinoff, even with Tom Selleck championing for Blue Bloods’ return. This does make me wonder how many other spinoffs started off as slightly different pitches thanks to one note, and I’m glad the note changed Boston Blue for the better. The series will return for Season 2 this fall on CBS, but the first season, as well as all 14 seasons of Blue Bloods, are streaming with a Paramount+ subscription.

To the surprise of presumably no one, Boston Blue has become a steady hit for CBS and earned its Season 2 renewal even before its midseason finale aired. With only three episodes left to go before Season 1 bows out of the 2026 TV schedule, the drama gave Donnie Wahlberg’s Danny Reagan a big reunion with former Blue Bloods co-star Bridget Moynihan, who popped in for her second appearance as Erin before taking Danny to the Reagans’ time-honored family dinners. Still no Frank, though.

Ever since Boston Blue came into existence, fans of the flagship procedural have optimistically wondered whether or not Tom Selleck will appear, with many no doubt assuming that it’ll happen, given how close this fictional family is. As far as the stars themselves go, it sounds like Wahlberg and Selleck aren’t quite yet on the same page.

Donnie Wahlberg Recently Voiced His Hopes About Bringing Frank Reagan Back

When speaking with US Weekly about all things Boston Blue at the CBS Fest event, Wahlberg addressed the possibility of seeing Selleck back in a suit and tie as Frank Reagan, and he definitely makes it sound like more of a "when" and not an "if" situation. In his words:

Unless the Boston Blue creative team pulled out an all-time great surprise when filming its Season 1 finale, I can only assume none of the scripts written thus far were crafted specifically to get Frank and Danny in the same room again. Or even for a phone call, though I wonder if that kind of appearance would be too slight.

Even if it won't be the Magnum P.I. vet back behind one desk or another, Donnie Wahlberg teased we'll see more family than just Erin before the summer hiatus. As he put it:

If all it takes is the right timing, then here's hoping Boston Blue showrunners Brandon Margolis and Brandon Sonnier have the perfect idea in mind, and that they're paying attention to what Selleck has on his future docket. I mean, assuming that really is all it would take.

But Wait, Not So Fast

The last time Tom Selleck's comments about Boston Blue spread around, he wasn't exactly frothing at the mouth to reprise his longest-held role for the spinoff. Not out of spite or anything so negative, but in the interest of not cheapening the character's legacy. As he put it at the time:

By all means, if Tom Selleck wanted to reprise his beloved Friends role of Richard Burke for a standalone series focusing on that character, bring it on. (Hopefully it wouldn't be as hard on his nerves as the original run was.) That's not all that realistic, of course, but I see nothing wrong with the actor leaning more into comedy with his at least one of his next projects.

Still, even if he's not meant to carry Frank Reagan's flag for the rest of his days, Selleck may very well one day be convinced to join his former TV family members anew for Boston Blue Season 2, where we'll also get to see more from Marisa Ramirez’s Maria Baez.

With three episodes left to go in its freshman season, Boston Blue airs Friday nights on CBS at 10:00 p.m. ET.

Boston Blue is wrapping up its inaugural season on the 2026 TV schedule, but there will be much more on the way. The Blue Bloods offshoot received an early Season 2 renewal last fall, and there is no telling what will be in store. This includes the return of some Blue Bloods favorites, such as Marisa Ramirez’s Maria Baez, who recently broke things off with Donnie Wahlberg’s Danny Reagan. And Wahlberg didn’t hold back his answer when it came to Baez’s potential return.

After fans waited years for Danny and Baez to get together, it finally happened at the very end of Blue Bloods. They were still very much together at the start of Boston Blue, but it was obvious that the long distance was hard on both of them, with Danny in Boston and Baez in New York. Unfortunately, those problems came to a head in the April 17 episode, “For Those Who Weren’t Heard.” Baez was in town for a case, later telling Danny that her mom has Alzheimer’s and she can’t leave her, wanting to take care of her and spend as much time with her as possible. She also said it was better to say goodbye now than do it later, and fans took that breakup pretty hard.

It was assumed that the long distance would put some kind of strain on their relationship, but it was still a surprise when it ended in a breakup. That being said, this might not be the end of them, or at the very least, the end of Maria Baez. Instagram user sabrinalovelikethis posted a video of Wahlberg and Ramirez at New Kids on the Block’s The Night Stuff – After Hours in Las Vegas, where Wahlberg revealed that Ramirez will indeed be in Season 2. It should be pointed out that this video is from February, but it’s unknown if the breakup was already filmed or if they knew about the breakup by then. If anything, Wahlberg seems pretty confident that Ramirez will be coming back for Season 2, so I’m choosing to believe they at least knew about the split by that point. And even if not, there are plenty of ways to bring Baez back to Boston, be it another case or still wanting to be in Danny’s life.

Fans waited so long for Danny and Baez to be a couple, and breaking them up when they just got together is harsh. It’s likely this breakup won’t be permanent, and the only way to resolve it is if they talk. Of course, their breakup is understandable with everything that Baez is going through, and they still very much care for each other. So you never know what could happen.

With Boston Blue confirmed to return to CBS this fall for Season 2, fans should find out later this year whether or not to truly expect Marisa Ramirez back as Maria Baez, because it’s always possible things could change. For now, new episodes of the first season of Boston Blue air on Fridays at 10 p.m. ET on CBS, streaming the next day with a Paramount+ subscription.

Boston Blue might have the city’s name in the title, but sadly, it is not 100% filmed there. Instead, the Blue Bloods spinoff splits its time between Toronto and Boston. However, Donnie Wahlberg, who leads Boston Blue and is an icon of the city, didn’t want it to be that way. In fact, he was willing to give up part of his paycheck to film the series exclusively in Beantown. However…CBS said no.

As we inch toward the Season 1 finale of Boston Blue on the 2026 TV schedule, Donnie Wahlberg went on Radio Andy to discuss returning as Danny Reagan for the new series. They specifically chatted about shooting in Boston (which is Wahlberg’s hometown), and the fight the actor has put up to try and film more of the show in the city it's named after. To that point, Wahlberg said:

Now, they have filmed various scenes in Boston and at iconic locations in the city (like Fenway Park). However, the majority of the series is shot in Toronto. While that was disappointing to Wahlberg, especially since he was stoked about the idea of Danny going to Boston instead of a place like Texas, he also got it.

That’s because, along with it being expensive to shoot Boston Blue in Massachusetts, it’s also a hassle, as Wahlberg explained:

The Bostonian went on to say that when this happens, the cameras come out, and he’s “gotta run over to the duck boat and pose for pictures.” He also joked that if they film in Boston, his entire extended family will try to come see him.

So, it’s hard to be productive there, and it’s pricey. So, I can see why CBS said no. It also seems like Wahlberg gets it, as he explained:

Thankfully, it’s not like Boston Blue totally abandoned the idea of filming in Boston. It might not be full-time, like the Danny actor wanted, but they do get to work in the city from time to time. Then, for the rest of the time, they film in Canada, which also has its benefits (like quieter sets and locations).

All around, they got it figured out, and no one had to give up half their paycheck. Now they’ll get to hone in on this process and filming between the two cities more, because Boston Blue has been renewed for Season 2. However, we have to finish Season 1 first, and you can catch those episodes (which hopefully include some moments that were filmed in Boston) on CBS every Friday at 10 p.m. or with a Paramount+ subscription the next day.

Since Boston Blue began in the fall, fans have been getting small updates about Danny and Baez’s relationship, which started at the very end of Blue Bloods. Fans had been waiting years for the two detectives to get together, so it was nice that the spinoff was keeping that going, even with the long-distance. Of course, it hasn’t been easy, but Baez has managed to visit Danny on a few occasions. Unfortunately, Boston Blue just dropped a major twist on the 2026 TV schedule, and fans are in their feelings.

In the episode “For Those Who Weren’t Heard,” Marisa Ramirez’s Maria Baez came to Boston not only for pleasure but for work. Boston PD was trying to close a homicide case that had connections to New York, but that’s not where the twist comes in. Towards the end of the episode, Baez admits to Danny that her mother has Alzheimer’s, and she’s the only one who can take care of her. She can't move to Boston, as she needs to spend as much time with her as she can. It’s getting harder to continue their relationship, and it’s better to say goodbye now.

The scene was unexpected and emotional, and X user @HKoonts couldn’t help but notice the timing of the breakup:

Between caring for her mother, caring for her daughter, working, and keeping up a long-distance relationship, saying that Baez has a lot on her plate would be an understatement. It was already clear that the distance was hard on them. Boston and New York may not be too far away from each other, but it was still not easy. And fans, like @justwrite115, want them to work it out:

As previously mentioned, fans had been waiting so long for Danny and Baez to get together. Their blossoming relationship on Blue Bloods was such a long slow-burn, and they finally realized their feelings for each other in the finale. So by the time they got together, the show ended, and even with the spinoff, Danny moved to Boston. And @JJSea is not happy:

Not surprisingly, fans are not taking the breakup well. It’s even worse when they’ve barely seen Danny and Baez together, aside from a few sweet moments when Ramirez returned for Boston Blue. @BriannaGist_ does not like it:

Fans are continuing to freak out over the breakup and are not accepting the fact that Danny and Baez are done. Of course, this is only the first season, and Boston Blue has been renewed for Season 2, so who knows what could happen. @LouPalm is not willing to give up so easily, and I’m the same way:

Even with how long it took for Danny and Baez to get together, it was expected that there could be some trouble down the road for them, especially being in different cities. They obviously love and care for one another, and the breakup was hard for both of them.

Hopefully, this breakup is only temporary, because I’m not sure the fans will survive, including me. We’ll just have to see in new episodes of Boston Blue, which air on Fridays at 10 p.m. ET on CBS.

The family dinner scenes in Blue Bloods are iconic and infamous. It’s no secret that they were “miserable” to film, and many in the cast have divulged their tips about how they got through them. Now, the cast of Boston Blue has to film scenes like this. So, I asked Marcus Scribner how he gets through them, and he told me both his strategy and why he has gotten sick filming these food-heavy scenes.

On Boston Blue, it’s family tradition to gather for Shabbat dinner, and most of the time, the Reagans attend the Silvers’ meal. That means the majority of the cast partakes in these big dinners, and the only regular with prior experience filming them is Donnie Wahlberg. So, I asked Marcus Scribner, who plays Jonah, if he’s picked up any tips from his co-star or developed any of his own as they filmed the show that's airing on the 2026 TV schedule. The answer is he hasn’t; he prefers to just eat the food. However, that comes with a cost, as he explained:

Well, considering how much coverage is required during a dinner scene, they take a long time to film. According to Blue Bloods' Tom Selleck, they could take up to eight hours sometimes. And eating food for that long sounds difficult. So, I see why it made them sick.

However, Scribner was adamant that really eating during these scenes is what he prefers to do. Explaining why that’s the case, the Black-ish star told me:

So, instead of buttering rolls or pushing his food around, Scribner goes for it. And I totally see why. He did admit that actually eating the food gets “taxing,” however, reacting to a moment in the middle of a bite or truly taking in the dinner makes the scenes set around this table more authentic. To that point, he said:

Well, when you watch Boston Blue’s family scenes, make sure to give Marcus Scribner and Sonequa Martin-Green their props, because they’re really eating that food. However, they’re also in Season 1, and with Season 2 on the way, I’ll be curious to see if they keep this attitude about the dinner scenes.

Remember, Blue Bloods was on for 14 seasons; that’s a lot of family dinners. So, if Boston Blue runs that long, there are a bunch of meals ahead. Will the cast keep eating the food, or will they start developing their own tricks to get through these long shoots? Only time will tell.

It’s been over a year since Blue Bloods ended and, in some ways, it's still hard to believe the long-running show is no longer on the air. Luckily, the show's fictional universe is still expanding with spinoff Boston Blue, which returns this week as part of the 2026 TV schedule. The series, which has already been renewed for a second season, sees Donnie Wahlberg reprising his role as Detective Danny Reagan, now of the Boston PD. Of course, this new era for the character came after Wahlberg had already said goodbye to him when wrapping on the parent show.

After it was announced that Blue Bloods would be ending, fans and much of the cast campaigned for another season. Wahlberg was among those who fought for BB to continue, and he recently recalled to Us Weekly just how disappointed he truly was with the cancellation and how down he was when he realized there was no hope for another season:

Obviously, in this TV landscape, some shows would be lucky to go beyond a second or third season, so the fact that Blue Bloods managed to get 14 seasons is impressive. Still, that fact is a big reason why the cancellation hurt fans so much, and it also didn't help that the decision seemed to come out of nowhere. While Wahlberg did not reveal exactly what happened in his conversations with CBS executives at the time, it's cool knowing that he fought for the show's future in such a passionate way.

Even with the cancellation, there had been rumors floating around that a spinoff or TV movie could happen. Some of the cast even thrown out ideas as to where their characters would be in a new show. As Wahlberg revealed, he had a specific concept that, in hindsight, tracks with Boston Blue:

Blue Bloods wrapped in the summer of 2024, with the series finale airing that December. So, by that time, Wahlberg had said goodbye to Danny not once but twice and also had to say goodbye to the cast and crew he’d worked with for over a decade. I can only imagine how hard it was for Wahlberg to have to come to terms with the fact that that part of his life was over. So how did he respond when the opportunity to do a sequel series cropped up? Here's what he said:

Of course, it also wasn’t a straight no, either. It's understandable as to why the New Kids on the Block co-founder had to think about the possibility of a spinoff. The decision to do Boston and contending with the notion that Danny would leave New York did get "easier" for Wahlberg, though, and he explained the reason for that:

It might have initially been hard for Donnie Wahlberg to sign on for Boston Blue, but his choices seem to be paying off, given the show's success. The Blue Bloods cancellation and spinoff green light seemed to cause some emotional whiplash but, in the end, I'm glad it resulted in new adventures for Danny and more family dinners (but with the Silvers this time).

Boston Blue's midseason premiere airs Friday, February 27 at 10 p.m. ET on CBS, and episodes can also be streamed next day with a Paramount+ subscription.

Boston Blue is set to grace the 2026 TV schedule for the second portion of its inaugural season in less than a month. That means fans will be reuniting with Danny and Sean Reagan as well as the Silver family in a matter of weeks. Fans will also be get to see some more Blue Bloods characters, including Marisa Ramirez, who is returning once again as Maria Baez. Still, where do she and Danny stand romantically ahead of the midseason premiere?

After years of waiting, Danny and Baez finally got together in the series finale of Blue Bloods. However, with Danny now in Boston, they have had to navigate a long-distance relationship. While hasn’t been easy, Maria has already visited her beau a couple of times, so they seem to be making it work. However, there have still be questions from fans as to whether that relationship can hold in the long run. Wahlberg addressed Danny and Maria's dynamic during a Television Critics Association panel via Swooon:

It is frustrating that as soon as the two characters them get together, Blue Bloods ends and that the first time fans see them actually together, Danny has to go to Boston and chooses to stay there. As a fan, I've found it hard to see Danny and Baez apart, and the ups and downs they've had with the long-distance relationship have been hard to watch. That being said, even if distance wasn’t the problem, I'm sure writers would find other ways to throw curveballs at the couple.

If anything, the pair knew that maintaining a romance across two different states would be difficult. Viewers have surely seen plenty of shows in which characters struggle with long-distance relationships. Luckily, Baez has been able to make the trip to Bean Town a few times and will continue to do so as the series continues. It also makes sense that not everything between the characters would be resolved right away, especially since they’re still getting used to the distance.

As of now, it’s unknown when Marisa Ramirez will be making her return to Boston Blue but, at the very least, it's comforting to know she will be returning at some point in the second half of the season. Plus, Boston Blue has been renewed for Season 2, so it's possible there will be more Danny and Baez moments to come as they continue to work out this long-distance relationship. And perhaps later down the line, maybe it won’t be so long-distance?

In the meantime, fans will just have to take what they can get when it comes to Danny and Baez. They had been clamoring for them to get together for years. So what’s a little more distance between them? This is also better than the alternative, which is no update on Danny and Baez whatsoever after the end of Blue Bloods. It’s hard to predict where their relationship will go, but I'm hopeful they can handle whatever comes their way. We just have to wait and see when Boston Blue returns on Friday, February 27 at 10 p.m. ET on CBS, streaming the next day with a Paramount+ subscription.

When Blue Bloods was canceled, Selleck was vocal about his opinion on the series ending. He shared his frustrations about the cancellation, noting he wasn’t’ ready to say goodbye to Frank Reagan, and even had some ideas as to how Frank could return in the future. So seeing Blue Bloods continue with a new show starring his on-screen son can’t be easy, as a source claimed to Globe Magazine:

Considering how open Selleck was about Blue Bloods ending, it wouldn’t be surprising if he is hurt over Boston Blue. In November, he opened up about how the cancellation was a disappointment and how steady Blue Bloods had been on CBS. As for appearing on Boston Blue, he said he didn’t know, pointing out that he can’t keep playing Frank Reagan forever, so it’s possible he’s coming to terms with the fact that that part of his life is over.

That being said, just because Frank Reagan might not be coming back for Boston Blue doesn’t mean that Tom Selleck isn’t coming back to acting. The Magnum P.I. star has made it clear that he’s not ready to retire, even at 80 years old. In fact, he’s officially switched talent agencies, going from CAA to UTA. Perhaps a new chapter will be starting soon for him, as the source alleged:

Since Boston Blue is coming back for another season, there are still plenty of chances for Selleck to appear, should he ever change his reported opinion. Donnie Wahlberg even previously shared that they were trying to do something. If anything, it doesn’t look like Selleck plans on stepping away from acting any time soon, so he could be lining up some new projects in the future, even if it’s not Boston Blue.

Speculation will likely continue about Selleck’s feelings about Boston Blue until it’s officially confirmed or denied that he’s returning. At the very least, those with a Paramount+ subscription can watch all 14 seasons of Blue Bloods now if they need to get their Frank Reagan fix. Boston Blue, meanwhile, returns on Friday, February 27, at 10 p.m. ET on CBS.

Blue Bloods ending in 2024 came as a surprise to many people, and it was an even bigger surprise when a new series in the universe was announced that wouldn’t be taking place in New York. The show, already renewed for Season 2 and returning in February on the 2026 TV schedule, centers on Donnie Wahlberg’s Detective Danny Reagan taking a position with Boston PD in the hopes of reconciling with his son, Sean, who is a rookie Boston police officer.

Since Blue Bloods took place in New York, with the city truly being a main character throughout all 14 seasons, some fans are finding it hard to believe that Danny would be willing to relocate. The character wants to be closer to his son, who wanted to forge his own identity in a different city. Wahlberg told People that it’s actually pretty believable, because his own son wants him home more than you’d think:

You can never be too old to be wanting your parents, and I feel that as a 28-year-old, so the fact that Wahlberg certainly knows what that feels like to the point where he’s using it to prove that the same thing can happen to Danny truly makes it all the more believable. Considering the fact that Blue Bloods was all about family (and it’s credited to why the show lasted so long) it would only make sense that family would be the one thing to get Danny out of New York and to a different city:

That being said, it is a bit tough seeing Danny in a different city, considering fans have gotten used to New York for 14 seasons, and that’s where the Reagans are from. So that also probably plays a factor in people not believing that Danny would ever move away from the Big Apple. Again, though, it’s truly all about family. He initially went to Boston because Sean got hurt, but he stayed to be with him and because Sean needed him. And Wahlberg knows all too well what it means to have his son wanting and needing him.

Speaking of family, Boston Blue has already brought on a couple of Blue Bloods characters, such as Bridget Moynahan’s Erin Reagan and Marisa Ramirez’s Maria Baez, both in the series premiere. Ramirez has also appeared in a few more episodes as Danny and Baez continue their long-distance relationship.

Family has always been a big part of Blue Bloods and will continue to be a big part of Boston Blue, and it’s certainly clear with the way that Danny went to Boston without a single hesitation. Of course, there are some changes with Boston Blue, especially when it comes to the traditional family dinners, but it’s definitely been entertaining, and there’s no telling what will be next.

When Boston Blue premiered on the 2025 TV schedule, Donnie Wahlberg returned as Danny Reagan. However, Andrew Terraciano didn’t come back as his son Sean. Instead, Mika Amonsen took over the role. Now, the actor who played Sean on Blue Bloods has opened up about this decision, and he revealed how he found out as well as the “beautiful” conversation he had with Wahlberg about it.

How Andrew Terraciano Found Out He’d Been Replaced For Boston Blue

After Mika Amonsen opened up about playing Sean and the backlash Boston Blue has received for this recasting, Andrew Terraciano shared his side of the story. Speaking to Us Weekly, he recalled how he found out someone else would be playing Sean in this new spinoff:

Well, that’s not an ideal way to learn about this, especially since he was in 292 episodes of Blue Bloods. However, the fact that Donnie Wahlberg reached out quickly and had a meaningful conversation with him is lovely.

Speaking more about his relationship with the Danny Reagan actor, Terraciano said:

Overall, it seems like there’s absolutely no bad blood between Terraciano, Wahlberg and the Boston Blue crew. In fact, during this interview, he noted that while he hasn’t watched the new show yet, if his TV dad were to call him up for Blue Bloods, Boston Blue, or anything really, he’d be there.

Clearly, while this situation was likely not ideal for him, he has a good perspective on it all, which will become even more obvious as we go over what he said about Mika Amonsen taking over the character.

Andrew Terraciano Opens Up About Another Actor Playing Sean

Earlier in the interview, Andrew Terraciano generally spoke about Mika Amonsen taking over the role, and he only had kind things to say. He made it clear how appreciative he was of his time playing Sean, and what’s next, explaining:

When news broke that a new actor would be playing the young Reagan, fans had myriad reactions, and Amonsen has faced some backlash. However, many are also loving his performance as the new Boston cop.

Kind of to that point, Terraciano shared his gratitude for Blue Bloods and also explained that Amonsen now has the “joy” of taking over the character. He said:

Well, as Boston Blue continues into the 2026 TV schedule, and Donnie Wahlberg and co. celebrate their Season 2 renewal, I think this is a good comment to remember. Both actors can play Sean, and do it well, and we can celebrate them both, too.

Boston Blue is going strong on the 2025 TV schedule, and it’s rolling into the 2026 TV schedule with some great news, because it’s been renewed early for Season 2. Of course, the family of this Blue Bloods spinoff is celebrating the great news too, as Donnie Wahlberg and more took to social media to post about getting to return to Boston for another season full of mysteries and family dinners.

Of course, Danny Reagan himself, Donnie Wahlberg, was one of the first to react to this news about his Blue Bloods spinoff. Taking to his Instagram stories, he reposted Deadline’s article about the renewal and wrote in big blue letters:

News about Boston Blue getting a sophomore season came with an update that Fire Country’s first spinoff, Sheriff Country, was also renewed. Both shows premiered this fall, and since then, CBS has ruled Friday nights. In fact, over the last couple of months, this lineup on CBS has received a 33% audience increase compared to this time last year. So, it's safe to say the renewals are warranted and celebrations are surely in order.

Speaking of which, alongside Wahlberg, Maggie Lawson, who plays Sarah Silver, reposted her co-star's IG story with some fitting emojis:

Meanwhile, Lawson’s on-screen mom, Gloria Reuben, also got in on the fun. She plays Mae Silver, the mother of Sarah and Sonequa Martin-Green's Lena, as well as Boston’s district attorney, so it’s only fitting that she celebrated in a wonderful way. She posted on Instagram:

Fireworks are fitting, indeed! Now, while we’re talking about the Silver family, Marcus Scribner, who plays Jonah Silver, reshared the news too, simply re-posting Wahlberg’s story on his own Instagram story.

So, all around, the cast of Boston Blue was basking in the good news, and they deserve it.

Along with stellar numbers, Boston Blue has been well-received by critics, and fans are loving and reacting to it on a weekly basis. While it’s still a bummer that Blue Bloods was canceled, this show offers a fresh take on the Reagans and this genre that fans love so much, and it’s wonderful that they’ll get to keep telling these stories in Season 2.

Now, hopefully, we'll get to see how Sean and Danny's relationship develops and learn even more about the Silver family, their history, and the impact they have on Boston. (Plus, getting a Season 2 means more opportunities for ties back to Blue Bloods!)

The newest episode of Boston Blue on the 2025 TV schedule brought in Marvel star and Dancing With the Stars champion Xochitl Gomez as Sean’s new love interest, Penny. But it wasn’t as simple as some would hope, as Penny ended up being a felon, making it difficult for Sean to decide if he could date someone with a record. Now, I’m even more nervous about what the future holds for these two after hearing new Sean actor Mika Amonsen talk about what’s next for them.

In Friday’s episode, “Code of Ethics,” Sean and Jonah met Penny while out on patrol, and as Sean flirted up a storm with her, Jonah did a background check and found out she has a record. Sean battled with his feelings for her and the fact that she’s a felon, and not surprisingly, his father wasn’t all too pleased with it. Amonsen told Us Weekly that Penny’s introduction was bound to have some challenges, though, explaining:

Penny will be coming back, as Gomez has a multi-episode arc, and I'm sure what lies ahead won't be easy for her and Sean. The two immediately hit it off, and it was clear that the Reagan had feelings, but everyone was telling him it was not a good idea. While it’s unknown how long Gomez will be on the show, Amonsen teased that his character's relationship with Penny will complicate things, especially when it comes to Sean's relationship with his father, Danny:

This makes me nervous for two different reasons. It’s obvious Danny isn’t a fan of Penny, and both as a father and a detective, he’s worried about how things will turn out for Sean. It’s possible this could drive a wedge between them.

Then there’s also Penny’s past, which involved her acting as a lookout for a burglary ring. She’s still on parole. And even though that all seems to be behind her, the past can still catch up to her when she least expects it. She may be putting Sean in danger, and she doesn’t even realize it. Not that Sean can’t hold his own, but there’s no telling what could happen.

If anything, he definitely has help if he runs into any problems. Now that Sean is rooming with Jonah, they could be keeping their eyes on each other more, which is good or bad. Jonah was already hesitant about Sean dating Penny, so it should be interesting to see how things go when the relationship continues.

However, as of right now, everything is fine between everyone. Although, the actor's comments certainly make me nervous about what's to come.

There will be much more to look forward to as Boston Blue continues, and this is one storyline that could make an impact on the remainder of the season. While the show is off next week for the Thanksgiving holiday, new episodes return on Friday, December 5 at 10 p.m. ET on CBS.

Boston Blue has been airing on the 2025 TV schedule for about a month now, giving fans an expansion of the Blue Bloods universe. The series, which sees Donnie Wahlberg’s Detective Danny Reagan taking a job with the Boston PD to stay more connected to his youngest son, Sean, who is a rookie cop, has already brought in some other fan-favorite Blue Bloods actors, such as Bridget Moynahan and Marisa Ramirez. Now Tom Selleck is speaking out about everything.

After Blue Bloods was announced to be ending after Season 14, Selleck championed for the show’s uncancellation. He was very vocal about the frustrating cancellation and not wanting to say goodbye to Frank Reagan. And with Blue Bloods approaching the one-year anniversary of the finale, Selleck is still not over it, especially since it went out on a high note. He told Hour Detroit:

Blue Bloods was consistently a top show on Friday nights and was steady in its 10 p.m. ET slot despite that usually being a death slot for most shows. It was a surprise when CBS announced its cancellation, especially since no one was expecting it. Many fans were upset over it, and much of the cast, aside from Selleck, were upset as well.

So when Boston Blue was announced, it was a pleasant surprise. But as of now, Selleck isn’t too sure if Frank will make a return:

Wahlberg previously opened up about Selleck’s possible return, noting that there are ideas floating around. It does sound like Selleck would possibly be open to it, and since he was pretty vocal about wanting to keep playing Frank, it would make sense for him to make a return to the role, no matter how brief. That being said, it also sounds like some time away from the world of Blue Bloods has given him a new perspective on his career, and he doesn’t want to be tied down.

I would love nothing more than to see Frank Reagan back in action and seeing how he’s doing. Of course, he has been name-dropped on a few occasions already, but actually seeing him would be even better. The show is still early in its run, so there is still plenty of time to make it happen. But now that it’s in Selleck’s periphery, I’d much rather it happen sooner than later.

In the meantime, Boston Blue is still pumping out some pretty great episodes with some pretty great appearances. Marisa Ramirez is set to return as Maria Baez once again in an upcoming episode, and it’s only a matter of time before someone else from Blue Bloods makes a return. The premiere of Boston Blue on the 2025 TV schedule marked a fresh start for Danny and Sean Reagan as they moved from New York to Boston. However, this Blue Bloods spinoff still has deep ties to the original show, and we’ve seen that in spades, specifically through Donnie Wahlberg’s character’s relationship with Maria Baez. Now that we know they’re staying together, I have questions about how they’ll do that and how that will impact Marisa Ramirez’s future on this new series.

Baez Showed Up At The End Of Episode 3, Making It Clear To Me That She And Danny Are Committed To Long-Distance

As Boston Blue picked up after Blue Bloods’ series finale, Marisa Ramirez’s Maria Baez was immediately brought back. In fact, the first time we saw Danny, he was with her as he got a call in the middle of the night about Sean getting injured in Boston. That led Wahlberg’s character to Boston, and now he’s staying there while his partner still lives in New York.

However, over the three episodes we’ve seen so far, it’s clear that he and Baez are going to try and make this relationship work.

Episode 3 gave us a sweet glimpse of that, too, as Ramirez’s character showed up at Danny’s office and they shared a nice interaction right before the episode ended with them kissing in the elevator. So, right now, all is good between them.

Long distance is no joke, though, and while New York and Boston aren’t that far away, it will be a challenge to maintain a romance when the two live hours apart. Therefore, that leaves me with a question about the future of this relationship and how it could impact Ramirez’s role on the Blue Bloods’ spinoff in the long run.

Will Marisa Ramirez Ever Become A Regular On Boston Blue?

As of right now, Marisa Ramirez isn’t a regular on Boston Blue; she’s a guest star. And as we’ve seen, Baez and Danny are doing long distance. To quote the actress herself, that alone is something to “always worry” about. So, yeah, I’m concerned about this couple’s chances of staying together.

For them to actually make it, I feel like Baez will have to move to Boston, since we know Danny probably won’t be returning to New York anytime soon (or maybe ever, considering the name of this new show). Therefore, I think it would make the most sense for Ramirez to become a regular or at least a major recurring guest star in the cast.

Personally, I hope this happens. I’d love to see these two work out, and it seems like Ramirez has similar thoughts as she posted this sweet image on Instagram the same day Episode 3 premiered:

Obviously, Baez has a big life in New York and can’t just pick up and leave. However, considering Boston Blue is all about Danny moving and staying in a totally new city, for him and his partner to work out, I fear she’ll have to move eventually, because long distance can’t last forever.

For now, though, they’re making it work, and you can continue to see how they deal with the distance as Boston Blue keeps airing new episodes on CBS every Friday at 10 p.m. ET.

Boston Blue is finally airing as part of the 2025 TV schedule, keeping the Blue Bloods universe alive after that series ended in 2024 after 14 seasons. Donnie Wahlberg reprises his role as Detective Danny Reagan, and there have already been some other fun cameos. Bridget Moynahan returned as Erin Reagan in the premiere, as previously announced, and Marisa Ramirez made a surprise cameo as Maria Baez. Yet would Tom Selleck ever appear on the show? Well, Wahlberg is weighing on whether Frank Reagan might show up.

When Blue Bloods was canceled, Selleck was very vocal about wanting to keep the show running and even proposed a way to keep it going. Despite championing for a BB return, Selleck's on-screen son nabbed the spinoff instead. It was subsequently alleged that Selleck wasn't happy when the offshoot was announced, but Wahlberg told Parade that he’s been in touch with Selleck:

Considering Boston and New York are about four hours away from each other, the notion of Frank or another Reagan family member traveling to the former isn't crazy. If Erin could make the trip to be there to support her brother and her nephew, Frank could surely do the same or vice versa. Most of Danny’s family is still in New York, so it would also make sense for him to take a drive to the Big Apple, but it sounds like the logistics still need to be worked out from a behind-the-scenes standpoint.

Since Selleck didn’t want Blue Bloods to end, I wouldn't be surprised if he were eager to reprise his role as Frank. Of course, there's the matter of how and when. Because Frank is still the NY police commissioner and, given his duties, it could take a major event would have to draw him to Beantown. Of course, it could also be established within the narrative that the hard working public servant is simply taking time off to visit his family in Boston.

Only a few episodes of Boston Blue have aired so far, meaning there is still plenty of time to bring on more Reagans as the season progresses. As a Blue Bloods fan, I'd love to see more OG characters pop in but only if it makes sense. Still, one of these days, it would be great to see an old-fashioned Reagan family dinner again.

While it remains unclear if or when Tom Selleck will play Frank Reagan again, I'm confident that the writers and producers can come up with a storyline to make it happen. In the meantime, stream all 14 seasons of Blue Bloods with a Paramount+ subscription. Otherwise, it wouldn’t have run for 14 seasons and gotten a spinoff. Now the show lives on with Boston Blue, and although the family dinners are different, it still has that same heart Blue Bloods had. Sonequa Martin-Green, who plays Danny’s new partner Detective Lena Silver, spoke to Deadline about the show’s legacy, and I can’t say I disagree with her:

Blue Bloods is entertaining and filled with action and emotions, and it’s always interesting seeing different aspects of the police department or the district attorney’s office. But on top of the cop storylines, at the heart of the series is the family aspect, and it’s something that’s been said time and time again. Tom Selleck previously shared his take on why Blue Bloods has been successful for so long, crediting the character-driven storytelling. And Martin-Green seems to agree with that, and more, as she said:

Of course, there are a lot of procedurals on television, but the big family of Blue Bloods is unique. The Reagan family dinners, for example, were a staple on the series for every single episode, and it was only the right way to end it. It's already been nice seeing some similarities between the two shows, and knowing that family, faith, and tradition will continue for Boston Blue is pretty great.

Even though it will be hard for Boston Blue to match Blue Bloods’ success, just one episode in, and it’s doing pretty well. The series had a surprise cameo with Marisa Ramirez as Maria Baez, and Bridget Moynahan reprised her role as Erin Reagan. And even though there is a new Sean Reagan, played by Mika Amonsen, he’s doing a great job.

The Blue Bloods universe is back in action following the premiere of Boston Blue on the 2025 TV schedule. The show is led by Donnie Wahlberg as his beloved character, Danny Reagan, goes to Boston to help his son, Sean. However, while Wahlberg is back, Andrew Terraciano is not. Instead, Mika Amonsen has taken up the Sean Reagan mantle, and fans were shocked after the news dropped. So why was he recast?

Terraciano had portrayed Danny’s youngest since the first season of Blue Bloods, acting alongside his brother Tony Terraciano, who played Sean’s big brother, Jack. So there was certainly some confusion over the recasting for Boston Blue. And even though Amonsen certainly fits the bill even after just one episode, there’s still the question of why he took over the role in the first place.

So, co-creator Brandon Margolis told TV Insider the reasoning behind it and what he and co-creator Brandon Sonnier were thinking, and it makes sense. He said:

It’s unknown how much time has passed between the series finale of Blue Bloods and the beginning of Boston Blue. However, considering the fact that Sean has gone through the Academy and is pretty settled in Boston, it makes sense that he looks different.

With all that being said, while I still miss the OG Sean actor, I am excited to see how this new Sean does. And once he gets out of the hospital, it should be entertaining to see how he does as a rookie.

While Mika Amonsen took over the role of an established character in the premiere, the first episode also saw two familiar Blue Bloods faces return alongside Donnie Wahlberg. It was previously announced that Bridget Moynahan would be back as Erin Reagan in the series premiere. Then, when the episode came out, fans were treated to a surprise cameo by Marisa Ramirez, who reprised her role as Maria Baez, confirming that she and Danny are still together following the finale. Although it was a nice surprise, Ramirez warned that we should be worried about their long-distance relationship, even though New York and Boston aren’t too far away from each other.

It's unknown if there will be other recastings or reprisals down the line as Boston Blue continues, but fans do have 14 seasons’ worth of Andrew Terraciano as Sean Reagan. Plus, after only one episode of Boston Blue, Mika Amonsen has been proving why he was cast, and it will be fun to see how he makes the role his own.

Boston Blue has finally premiered on the 2025 TV schedule, and fans were reunited with Donnie Wahlberg’s Detective Danny Reagan on Friday night. Although the series sees Danny in Boston, there have been teases that familiar faces will be showing up too. It was previously confirmed that Bridget Moynahan would be back as Erin Reagan for the series premiere, and people were delighted to see her comforting her brother after Sean ended up in the hospital. But that wasn’t the only cameo, and fans were even more delighted after another big surprise.

After Mika Amonsen’s Sean got hurt during a fire, Danny got the call about what happened, and he wasn’t alone when he answered the phone. He was with Marisa Ramirez’s Maria Baez, and it was the middle of the night, confirming that the two are very much together following the Blue Bloods finale.

Not surprisingly, many viewers on social media were ecstatic to see Maria pop up, especially since she and Danny got together at the very end of Blue Bloods:

It was definitely a nice surprise, and even though there had been hope that Ramirez would appear on Boston Blue, the fact that it happened so early and satisfied so many was pretty great. That also wasn’t the final time fans heard about her in the premiere.

After Erin came by, she name-dropped Maria and really made their whole relationship even better, and one fan just couldn’t get enough of that:

Blue Bloods fans have been waiting a long time for Danny and Maria to get together, and their relationship blossomed throughout the final seasons, especially once Danny’s wife Linda died off-screen between Seasons 7 and 8. Fans were pleasantly surprised when the two eventually went out at the very end of the series finale. Now, it's even better because we’re able to see how their relationship has progressed on Boston Blue. The wait was worth it, and fans couldn’t be happier:

That being said, even though it is totally great to see them in a relationship and happy after everything that happened on Blue Bloods, seeing them actually in a relationship or just hearing about it is going to take some getting used to. But many people are simply giddy about it, and already teasing the fictional characters:

Of course, there was a lot to like about Boston Blue, and not just because of Maria’s surprise return. The family dinner scenes are very different from Blue Bloods, and Danny’s new partner Lena (Sonequa Martin-Green) already seems to be a good one. So, there will be much to look forward to on that front.

However, one fan has come to the consensus that the best part is Danny and Maria:

While it's not confirmed, it seems likely that we could see more of Marisa Ramirez as Season 1 progresses. At the very least, it was a treat having her back for the Boston Blue premiere. Donnie Wahlberg’s Danny is the center of the new spinoff Boston Blue, which premieres on the 2025 TV schedule on October 17. Critics had a chance to screen the first two episodes of the new series, and they agree that the Blue Bloods faithful will love it.

Boston Blue sees Danny leaving the Big Apple for Beantown, where he partners up with Detective Lena Silver (Sonequa Martin-Green) at the Boston PD, where his son Sean is a rookie officer (played by Mika Amonsen in this series). With a new city, new cops and a twist on the Reagan family dinners, what else can we expect from the spinoff? Robert Lloyd of the L.A. Times says fans of the original will be pleased and gives a hint of what to expect from Danny and his new partner:

Aramide Tinubu of Variety says intriguing cases, complex family dynamics and the potential for Blue Bloods cameos — Bridget Moynahan’s Erin Reagan appears in the premiere (and there's a surprise OG as well) — make Boston Blue is a worthy spinoff for fans still reeling from the series’ cancellation. Deidre Johnson of The Wrap says Boston Blue has all the bones of its predecessor, including a good cast that includes Psych’s Maggie Lawson, Gloria Reuben (who appeared on Blue Bloods in a different role) and Marcus Scribner. Johnson continues:

Joel Keller of Decider admits that fans who are still craving more Blue Bloods may make this spinoff a hit, but for everyone else, the critic recommends that we skip this “patently absurd” series. In Keller’s words:

Danny Reagan is moving to Boston when the Blue Bloods spinoff, Boston Blue, premieres on the 2025 TV schedule, and personally, I can’t wait to see how Donnie Wahlberg’s character does in this new city. However, before it was decided that the beloved Blue Bloods character was going to move up to Massachusetts following the cancellation of the flagship series, they were thinking about sending him to Texas. Now, the actor who plays the Reagan is opening up about that idea and why, in the end, Danny got sent to Boston instead.

CinemaBlend had the opportunity to attend a screening of Boston Blue’s premiere and a Q&A with Donnie Wahlberg and the actress playing his new partner, Sonequa Martin-Green. During it, the Blue Bloods alum was asked about a potential spinoff that was floated before this new show came along, which would have seen Danny move to Texas.

In response, Wahlberg explained that that was an idea that was talked about, especially since he had so much fun playing with Lyle Lovett’s character, Waylon Gates, on the flagship show. Overall, he was excited by the idea of seeing Danny in a new environment, like the Lone Star State, as he explained:

Of course, it’s not out of Wahlberg’s comfort zone; he’s from Boston. However, Danny is a New Yorker, and any move is big for him.

Anyway, Wahlberg continued to explain that as the Texas idea was forming, what would become the spinoff that is about to premiere was being worked out, too. To that point, he recalled that Boston Blue’s showrunners, Brandon Margolis and Brandon Sonnier, were working out this show with Jerry Bruckheimer. He said they were talking about moving a Blue Bloods character up to Boston and introducing a new law enforcement family, and eventually they came to a revelation, as the Danny actor explained:

However, Wahlberg didn’t think this spinoff would happen so soon. He didn’t think Blue Bloods would get canceled. Overall, the cast was not pleased about this cancellation. But, the show ended last season, and now it’s time to move forward, as the actor explained:

That key difference comes by way of Mika Amonsen’s character, Sean. Danny’s son will also play a huge role in Boston Blue, and Wahlberg noted that their relationship was one of the key reasons why seeing his character in a new city would be so great. He said:

Donnie Wahlberg finished his explanation by saying this familial tie makes Boston Blue click. That’s because, along with Danny getting a new partner and us being introduced to a new family, it will also highlight a new dynamic between him and his son.

So, in the end, I’m happy Danny moved to Boston instead of Texas, and you better believe I’ll be tuning into Boston Blue on CBS this Friday at 10 p.m. ET (you can also stream it the next day with a Paramount+ subscription) to see how this new chapter in Danny Reagan’s life begins.

Donnie Wahlberg has been jazzed about Blue Bloods getting a spinoff on the 2025 TV schedule for months, even more so given the show is taking fans to his real-life hometown of Boston to share a brand new story. While Wahlberg will be a unifying thread on the new show, he recently revealed Boston Blue will have other ties to the original series. In fact, he revealed ahead of the the premiere the three tenets the new series needs to tie to the old: “You need faith, family and tradition.”

But what else does the show need? Some good, old-fashioned family dinners. Of course!

How Boston Blue’s Family Dinner Scenes Will Be Different Than The Ones Fans Have Seen In The Past

We’ve known for a bit the Reagan character will be moving to Boston to be closer to his son (Mika Amonsen in the new series), and while in the new city he will start working with new partner Lena Silver (played by Sonequa Martin-Green). Meanwhile, Donnie Wahlberg has been "playing tour guide" like crazy for his new co-stars, and will bond more onscreen via new family dinner scenes. This time around, it won’t be the Catholic dinners Danny Reagan will be used to.

In fact, the Silvers are Jewish, and early on Danny will attend Shabbat. Speaking to Deadline, the actor opened up about the new twist on the family dinner scene, and how he navigated that.

Still, it may be a new family, a new table, and a new attitude for Danny, but I’d be willing to bet some of the secrets of the Blue family dinner scenes will remain the same. One of my favorite details is how they don’t use real silverware, so there’s no unnecessary clunking on the plates during the scenes. With a new show, they’ll probably have some tips and tricks up their sleeves, as well.

Sonequa Martin-Green had mentioned it took real “courage” to make such a big change to what fans of the original series love and are used to, but she believes it worked out great.

Speaking of courage, I do know Donnie Wahlberg famously is one of the only actors to have eaten during Blue Bloods’ infamous dinner scenes. Will he be continuing the tradition in the new show? Will his co-stars join him? I can’t wait to find out. Boston Blue officially premieres on CBS’ Friday night fall schedule on October 17th at 10 p.m. ET.

I love horror movies, but especially the Saw series (I actually think it's one of the greatest horror franchises of all time). That said, even though there are more Saw movies than famed franchises like Friday the 13 and Nightmare on Elm Street, I still think the franchise peaked overall at Saw II.

Yes, there have been some highs and some lows in the series, which is natural for a series with 10 (and unfortunately, not 11) Saw movies. (I'm looking at you, Jigsaw). But overall, I think the franchise has been mostly successful in making us feel icky inside, while not always getting other things right.

As such, I want to lay out some reasons why 2005's Saw II is the best movie in the franchise. So just ignore that big needle pit over there and answer me this…are you ready to play a game?

This Movie Arguably Has The Best Twist In The Entire Series

Will any twist ending to a Saw movie ever top the original's? Probably not, because many fans agree that the first movie is still the best. In fact, when we ranked the Saw movies, we put the first film at number 1, and I think a lot of that is because of how freaking amazing that ending is. I mean, Jigsaw was in the room the entire time? Gnarly.

However, much like how I think M Night Shyamalan's Unbreakable has a better twist than The Sixth Sense, I also think that Saw II takes viewers for a wilder spin than its predecessor. Firstly, Saw II is more complex than the first movie, which was actually more of a mystery thriller than a horror flick at times.

In the sequel, a corrupt cop named Eric Matthews (Donnie Wahlberg) has his son kidnapped by Jigsaw, and Matthews is on the hunt for him. Meanwhile, Jigsaw has captured seven criminals, and is keeping them in a house and recording their progress. So, in order for Matthews to get his son back, he has to follow along with the “games” (i.e torturous activities to acquire antidotes). Oh, and if the victims don’t get out in two hours, then nerve gas is released and everybody in the house dies. Good luck!

The twist, however, is that the recording is not live, and Matthews’ son is secured in a safe with an oxygen mask, leaving his corrupt father trapped in the wrong house to die. Not only that, but one of the victims was actually working with Jigsaw, so it’s like a double twist. It’s the best!

The Torture Devices In Saw II Are Some Of The Most Gruesome In The Series

The Saw series is known for its traps. Everybody knows that. However, an unfortunate thing about the franchise is that it always felt like each new movie was trying to one-up the last one, and it got to a point where it started to feel ridiculous (Like the public execution trap in Saw: The Final Chapter). But, Saw II really feels (to me, anyway), like the last time the series was firing on all cylinders when it came to every trap.

The film starts the right way, as a man is trapped in a spiked death mask that’s basically going to puncture his entire head if he doesn’t get it off. The catch – and what makes this series so special – is that he has the ability to take it off. He just needs to get the key…which is lodged behind his eye.

That’s right, as with most of the kills in this film, it’s plot related, as Jigsaw has a new appreciation for life after his cancer diagnosis, and he wants to (forcibly) get his victims to appreciate life, too.

This leads to some absolutely heinous torture scenes, like the glass box, the furnace trap (Which melds my fear of tight spaces AND burning alive), and the worst of them all, the pit of needles *shivers*. Other Saw movies have had gruesome devices, but Saw II definitely takes the cake.

This Was Before They Killed Off Jigsaw And The Series Went Crazy

Now, here’s the thing about me and sequels. I like when they go forward, not backward. And, with the first three Saw movies, we got that. John Kramer aka Jigsaw, is dying in the first three films, and eventually perishes in the third movie. For that reason, I know some people only like the first three Saw films, since they make for a worthy trilogy before the series kept jumping back and forth.

However, Saw III is where the problems start for me, because even though I like the film and consider it the last great Saw movie, I also don’t like how the series kind of had to work itself around the ending of III by adding new killers, while still going into Jigsaw’s past to flesh out the story.

Which is why I much prefer Saw II, as its narrative is more straightforward. We learn more about Jigsaw, and why he does what he does, but also get a sense that this is a man with morals (Like, Matthews’ son really is innocent, so he doesn’t “deserve” to die, but is more there just to lure his father into the games). The events also feel more organic and focused, which I can’t say for many of the later films.

So, in every way, I think Saw II succeeds where the later sequels falter, which is why I think it’s the peak of the series.

It Is An Excellent Follow-Up To The Original Movie

The compelling thing about Jigsaw is that he’s not like Freddy Krueger, Jason Voorhees or Micahel Myers. In other words, he’s not just a killer. I mean, he WILL kill people, but he always wants to give them a chance first. They just have to want it badly enough.

It’s like, remember that scene in Fight Club where Tyler put a gun to that man’s head, and asked him what he wanted to be? Well, Tyler gets the man to confess that he wants to be a veterinarian, and Tyler promises that he will let the man go, but that he will find him and kill him if he isn’t enrolled in veterinarian school in six weeks. Well, Jigsaw is like that to the extreme, and in the first movie, he actually let a woman named Amanda Young live when she got out of one of his traps.

The thing is, she’s also in the second movie, and for a lot of the film, you think she’s screwed (She’s even the one who gets thrown into the above-mentioned needle pit). However, Amanda is actually in on the games, and she's training to be the next Jigsaw once he succumbs to cancer.

And, I love this continuity! Saw II is an excellent follow-up to the original, and in my mind, the best sequel to any other film in the franchise.

The Pacing Is The Best Of Any Saw Film

Lastly, as much as I'd hate to admit this, some of the Saw movies are boring. And, I think a lot of this is due to world-building, which in theory, sounds like a good thing, but from Saw IV onward (well, excluding Saw X, which is my fourth favorite Saw movie), I think there's been a bit too much world-building in most of the Saw movies.

I really miss the straightforward storytelling of the first film, and I think Saw II is the last movie in the franchise to have such great pacing. It never slows down, and I miss that about the Saw series.

Plus, Saw II is always compelling since you worry about the protagonist's son, as you want to know if an innocent character will survive. It's for this reason that Saw II has the best pacing in the series.

The Blue Bloods universe is staying alive thanks to the upcoming spinoff, Boston Blue, premiering next month on the 2025 TV schedule. The new series will follow Donnie Wahlberg’s Danny Reagan to the capital of Massachusetts as he gets a job with the Boston PD. With a new job comes a new partner, meaning the adventures of Danny and Maria are done. So, I’ve been wondering how he will get along with his new partner, and now Wahlberg is sharing his take.

Blue Bloods fans have seen Danny acclimate to a new partner before, after Jennifer Esposito’s Jackie Curatola left ahead of the fourth season. Marisa Ramirez’s Maria Baez was brought in, and it didn’t take long for them to find their rhythm and for fans to start shipping them. With Danny with another new partner and in a new city, it’s hard to predict how things will go. However, Wahlberg told TV Insider what exactly brings Danny and Sonequa Martin-Green’s Lena Silver together and how they’re able to bond over their similar situations:

What that case is, obviously, is unknown, but it sounds like Danny will be just the right person to help. Additionally, since Danny and Lena come from similar family backgrounds, it will be exciting to see how that brings them closer together. It will be hard to have a partnership on the same wavelength as Danny and Maria; however, Danny and Lena already seem like they’re a match made in heaven. Plus, this Reagan having a partner who knows what it’s like to come from a law enforcement family will be nice.

While the Reagans consist of police commissioners, a police sergeant, a detective, and a D.A., the Silvers consist of a D.A., a detective, a police superintendent, a rookie cop, and a Baptist pastor. So, Danny and Lena will definitely have a lot to talk about. Really, they already seem to be the perfect partners, and I can’t wait to see them in action.

Filming for Boston Blue kicked off over the summer, and the excitement has only been getting bigger since then. Between getting more details about the show and hearing Wahlberg talk about being a tour guide while they’ve been briefly shooting in Boston, I’m as excited as ever for Boston Blue. Plus, Bridget Moynahan is making an appearance in the series premiere, which adds another level of enthusiasm to this.

Fans won’t have to wait too much longer to see Danny and Lena’s partnership. Boston Blue premieres on Friday, October 17 at 10 p.m. ET on CBS, and you can stream it the next day with a Paramount+ subscription. Even though it probably won’t match the energy that Blue Bloods had, it will still very likely be a show you won’t want to miss, and I’m looking forward to the universe continuing.

Blue Bloods may have ended back in late 2024 with one last Reagan family dinner, but that doesn’t mean the fall 2025 TV schedule will be devoid of Reagans. The upcoming CBS premiere of Boston Blue takes Danny to Boston for a new job, new partner, and new city far from the life he’d built for himself in New York City. It remains to be seen how Danny will adjust to life in Boston with only his son Sean as a familiar face, but it’s safe to say that star Donnie Wahlberg is very excited to be back in his hometown to film.

Wahlberg had already admitted that the “only tricky part” of filming Boston Blue in his hometown is having to play Danny as a New York fan, but he also shared that he’s “finally getting [his] dream of doing a TV series in Boston.” Considering that he was wearing a huge smile and literally standing in Fenway Park when sharing those sentiments with Intentional Talk, it’s not hard to believe him! He has also posted a countdown on Instagram of weeks until the premiere of Boston Blue, and I don’t think he could be any clearer about living his dream in Massachusetts. Take a look:

Did Donnie Wahlberg say anything bad about New York in the video? Of course not, but I think his expression while wearing a Red Sox jersey in Fenway Park says plenty about how happy he is to be back in Beantown without needing to speak the words. Plus, the Boston half of the clip definitely got the more exciting part of Mase’s “Welcome Back.” While the star may not have hated NYC, he’s clearly enjoying his time back in Boston to film.

Plus, in the same interview in which he shared how doing a TV series in Boston is his “dream,” he talked about “playing tour guide like crazy” to his new costars, and he definitely didn’t sound mad about it! The majority of the cast was new for Donnie Wahlberg when he went into Boston Blue, with even Sean Reagan recast from Andrew Terraciano on Blue Bloods to Pachinko vet Mika Amonsen. Bridget Moynahan will guest star as Erin Reagan in the premiere, however, and the first looks from CBS reveal brother and sister hanging out with his new partner’s family.

And fans of Star Trek: Discovery (available streaming now with a Paramount+ subscription) will certainly recognize the actress playing Danny’s new partner in Boston, with Sonequa Martin-Green playing Detective Lena Silver opposite Donnie Wahlberg’s Danny Reagan. The first look photos show the two costars racing through iconic Boston locations (including a graveyard). The rest of the cast is filled out by district attorney Mae Silver (Gloria Reuben), Boston P.D. detective Lena Silver, police superintendent Sarah Silver (Maggie Lawson), rookie cop Jonah Silver (Marcus Scribner), and renowned Baptist pastor Reverend Edwin Peters (Ernie Hudson).

He reprises his role as Danny Reagan for Boston Blue, a Blue Bloods spinoff with an almost entirely new cast and set in – where else? – Boston. The switch in locales hasn't been tough on the actor, as he grew up in that bustling area of Massachusetts, and he took it upon himself to play tour guide for some of his new costars in the city.

While the actor admitted that it's "tricky" to play a New Yorker as a native Bostonian back in his hometown, he definitely proved that he hasn't lost touch with his roots while chatting about the Red Sox on Intentional Talk. Wearing a Red Sox jersey after gushing about getting to film in Fenway Park, Donnie Wahlberg went on to share how he's helped some of the Boston Blue stars in getting to know the city:

Wahlberg didn't name which costars he took to the North End, but I'm guessing they were Marcus Scribner, the 25-year-old actor playing the brother of Sonequa Martin-Green's Lena Silver, and Mika Amonsen, who plays Danny's son Sean. When Sean was last seen in Blue Bloods, he was in his early 20s, so I'd bet that his actor was out on the town with Donnie Wahlberg. (Sean Reagan was played by Andrew Terraciano on Blue Bloods, with Amonsen joining Boston Blue in a recasting.)

I can imagine that any cast members of Boston Blue probably will have an easier time checking out restaurants and bar-hopping in what remains of the summer before the Blue Bloods arrives in primetime in mid-October. If the spinoff wins the kind of loyal viewers that Blue Bloods earned over the years, then a lot of people may be watching them on Friday nights. Incognito nights out might get a lot harder!

Of course, other cast members of Boston Blue are already quite recognizable. As Detective Lena Silver, Sonequa Martin-Green is fresh off of five seasons of Star Trek: Discovery, which is available streaming now with a Paramount+ subscription, and was already recognizable before Trek thanks to her role as Sasha on The Walking Dead. Ernie Hudson is of course an icon from Ghostbusters, and plays a pastor who is also Lena's grandfather on Boston Blue.

Playing Lena's stepsister Sarah, Maggie Lawson comes to Boston Blue as a main cast member from Psych. Gloria Reuben, whose character of Mae Silver is the district attorney of Boston as well as Lena's mom, appeared in Blue Bloods twice, although as a different character than she plays in the new spinoff. And fear not, Blue Bloods fans, because another familiar face from the original show is slated to appear. Bridget Moynahan will guest star as Erin Reagan.

Boston Blue arrives in primetime on Friday, October 17 at 10 p.m. ET on CBS, inheriting Blue Bloods' longtime time slot. That will be a big night on CBS, with Fire Country Season 4 premiering at 8 p.m. ET, followed by the series premiere of Sheriff Country at 9 p.m. ET.

Blue Bloods' cancellation was a real bummer, and it was something that no one in the cast wanted to happen. However, the Reagan family’s story gets to continue with Donnie Wahlberg’s spinoff Boston Blue, thankfully. Now, the lead actor is opening up about the struggle of making TV right now, the changes at CBS, and what they’re doing to hopefully find success with this new series.

The crew of Boston Blue has been hard at work this summer crafting its first season. The same is true for a bunch of network shows preparing for their premieres on the 2025 TV schedule. However, there are only a few who are working on their freshman seasons, as Wahlberg explained on Billy & Lisa in the Morning:

Technically, Wahlberg’s comment isn’t fully correct. On CBS’s 2025-2026 lineup, DMV, CIA and Sheriff Country are all scripted shows that will start their first seasons in the fall, like Boston Blue, with the Yellowstone spinoff Y: Marshals coming early next year. However, I see his point, as the network also has a dozen returning scripted shows – with Ghosts even getting a two-season pickup.

This led the actor into a discussion about how they’re filming Boston Blue and the challenges that come with it. It sadly costs too much to film it all on location, so they have to shoot a lot of it in Canada, which has become the standard for many shows, including CBS programs like Ghosts, Fire Country and Sheriff Country, for example.

Explaining why they have to do that, the Blue Bloods actor said:

However, despite the financial struggles the industry is facing at the moment, Wahlberg was still able to film some of Boston Blue in Boston.

He explained that he fought for that too, especially since he’s from there; it was important that they depicted the city accurately. He said:

Overall, the long-term goal is to eventually move the full production to Massachusetts. And between Blue Bloods being fully filmed in and around New York City (where it took place) and Boston being the actor’s hometown, his desire to go there full-time for his spinoff makes perfect sense.

So, while shooting the exteriors there is nice, that’s not the dream, as the Danny Reagan actor said:

As I mentioned, his “dream of all dreams” is to move the show to its titular city full-time. However, for now, they’re working to compromise and make it work, because, as the actor stated, making TV is hard.

Hopefully, though, they can fulfill this goal of filming Boston Blue in Boston fully, and the series can have a long life like its predecessor (just without the cancellation). What Did Donnie Wahlberg Say Is The Tricky Part Of Filming Boston Blue?

Though hopes were high for the possibility that Blue Bloods could’ve been saved from its November 2023 cancelation (with star Tom Selleck, specifically, having thought that a move to streaming would be the obvious answer), late 2024 still brought about the series finale, and what will likely be the last on-screen Reagan family dinner for quite some time.

Donnie Wahlberg began filming his Boston Blue spinoff with new co-star and Star Trek: Discovery alum Sonequa Martin-Green this summer, and while speaking about the joys of filming in his hometown of Boston with MLB Network’s Intentional Talk, he also revealed a “tricky” aspect I wouldn’t have thought of:

Alright, I am not a sports person, but I do understand that the people who are diehard baseball/football/hockey/etc. fans are REALLY FANS. If you’re serious about sports, once you have your teams, that tends to be it, and those are your teams for life. This means that while The Sixth Sense actor can technically enjoy working in his hometown for the foreseeable future, he won’t be able to revel in his Red Sox fandom on the drama, because Danny (gasp!) is only a fan of New York teams. Wahlberg continued:

Wow. I tell you, this sports fandom really goes deep with some folks, doesn’t it? Well, we’ll all be able to see how Danny deals with his relocation (and hopefully get the reason for it) when Boston Blue debuts in what was the Blue Bloods timeslot, on October 17.

Blue Bloods came to a conclusion back in 2024 after fourteen seasons, nearly 300 episodes, and plenty of comments from star Tom Selleck about not wanting it to end. The TV icon's pitch for a Season 15 didn't lead to a renewal, but another Reagan is getting his own show. Danny Reagan, played by Donnie Wahlberg, is relocating from New York City to star in Boston Blue, set to premiere on CBS later in the 2025 TV schedule in Blue Bloods' old time slot. So, why a spinoff and not Season 15? Wahlberg weighed in with an unexpected answer.

Boston Blue will take Danny Reagan away from the NYC-based Reagan family dinners of Blue Bloods to join Boston P.D. His new partner will be Lena Silvers, played by Sonequa Martin-Green in her first series regular role since Star Trek: Discovery ended on Paramount+ last year. These will be very different circumstances from those fans watched Danny in for nearly a decade and a half on Blue Bloods (and continue to stream via Paramount+ subscription if the recent numbers are any indication).

Somewhat surprisingly, Wahlberg candidly answered a fan in Boston Blue's Instagram comments when asked why CBS didn't "just continue with BB?!?" He said:

Apparently, the desire to continue Blue Bloods was there behind the scenes, but the CBS stars just didn't align for the drama to continue in Season 15 on Friday nights. Boston Blue isn't going to feel like a total change from the original series, though, with Wahlberg's longtime costar Bridget Moynahan reprising her role as Erin Reagan for the spinoff's premiere.

Wahlberg himself also noted that New York and Boston are geographically pretty close, so even if fans don't always see it on screen on Boston Blue, it stands to reason that Reagans may have frequent off-screen reunions. That may depend on the circumstances of Danny's departure, though!

Viewers may not want to count on seeing Tom Selleck back as Frank Reagan, though, if there's truth to the rumors that the. Magnum P.I. vet was furious about the spinoff happening instead of Season 15. Elsewhere in the Instagram comments, Donnie Wahlberg also answered a "so confused" fan who wanted to know why CBS cancelled Blue Bloods if they're "going to have essentially the same plot line!?" He responded:

"Family is forever" is a lovely sentiment, but will it feel true for Blue Bloods fans when Boston Blue premieres without the majority of the Reagan family? Only time will tell, and the months are counting down until the first episode.

The highly anticipated Blue Bloods spinoff, Boston Blue, is coming to the 2025 TV schedule this fall on CBS, and the excitement is through the roof. The new show will see Donnie Wahlberg reprising his beloved role as Detective Danny Reagan as he takes a new job with the Boston PD. I’ve been wondering if other Reagans will be joining him, and the wondering has finally ended. Wahlberg has announced that an original cast member is returning, and I couldn’t be happier.

As filming continues on Boston Blue, Wahlberg took to Instagram on Friday to share a photo from set, but it's not just any photo. He was beside on-screen sister Bridget Moynahan for a very special reason. The New Kids on the Block co-founder revealed that Moynahan will not only be “bringing her incredible directing talents” to Boston Blue, but Erin Reagan will officially be making an appearance and joining her brother for a brief time in Boston:

It is so great to know that Moynahan will be appearing on Boston Blue, and it makes me want to sing, “Reunited and it feels so good!” because it truly does feel so good.

It’s only been a year since Blue Bloods wrapped filming, but I can only imagine how it feels for Wahlberg and Moynahan to be working together again after what probably feels like forever. Blue Bloods ran for 14 seasons. The Reagan family was not only a family on-screen but off as well, and it gives me hope that she won’t be the only one coming aboard Boston Blue.

Of course, details surrounding her appearance haven’t been revealed, so it’s hard to tell what exactly will bring Erin to Boston. Maybe she just wanted to pay her brother a visit, and maybe give him an update about her and Jack following the events of the series finale. Whatever the case may be, it will be exciting to see Moynahan and Wahlberg together again. If only their brother Jamie could join them…

That being said, while Moynahan will be the first original cast member returning aside from Wahlberg, Erin is not the first Reagan to be returning after Danny. It was previously reported that Danny’s youngest son, Sean, will indeed be coming to Boston with his father, only he won’t be played by Andrew Terraciano. Mika Amonsen is taking over the role as Sean takes a job as a Boston PD patrolman. Whether or not fans will be seeing big brother Jack, played by Terraciano’s real-life brother Tony Terraciano, is unknown.

Details surrounding Bridget Moynahan’s appearance and the episode she’s directing should be released in the coming months, but now, fans have something else to look forward to when it comes to Boston Blue. The new series premieres on CBS on Friday, October 17 at 10 p.m. ET. In the meantime, all episodes of Blue Bloods are streaming with a Paramount+ subscription.

Blue Bloods may have ended after 14 seasons in late 2024, but the franchise isn’t done just yet. At this point, it’s public knowledge that Donnie Wahlberg is reprising his role as Danny Reagan for a spinoff series, Boston Blue, which is set to air this fall amid the 2025 TV schedule. Wahlberg seems to be pumped about the new show, as he’s expressed enthusiasm when discussing the project. Now, the reality that a sequel series is really setting in for me due to Wahlberg sharing a behind-the-scenes photo.

The fall TV season will begin before we know it, so it makes sense that Boston Blue is now in production. Donnie Wahlberg shared an update on the crew’s progress, as he shared a photo from the table read to his Instagram stories. The snapshot not only shows a place card, which designates Wahlberg’s role as Danny, but it also shows a brief part of the script for the show’s pilot episode. Take a look for yourself:

It’s one thing to hear that a Blue Bloods spinoff is in the works, but it’s a whole other thing to actually see that progress is being made. Sure, this is just a small tease, and it represents a non-grandiose part of the production. However, this really does make the prospect of the show hitting the small screen feel all the more real for me. I only wish I could’ve been a fly on the wall as that read-through was playing out.

Considering that a table read has been held, it’s likely that cameras will start rolling very soon. That prospect already has me wondering what kind of behind-the-scenes content that Donnie Wahlberg or any of his co-stars might opt to share next. I’m exactly sure what Wahlberg and co. will actually be able to post about once they begin shooting the show. However, I’d be surprised if none of the members of the ensemble opted to drop any kind of non-spoilery tidbits to whet fans’ appetites for what’s to come.

As previously alluded to, Donnie Wahlberg hasn’t tried to hide just how excited he is for his new show. Following the announcement of the spinoff, Wahlberg merely shared a three-word reply, “see you soon,” which I’d imagine was enough to get a portion of fans pumped. Wahlberg also hasn’t held back from discussing how Blue Bloods’ cancellation impacted his feelings about joining a spinoff series. The actor and singer now seems ready to dive into the work, though, as he recently marked what he says will be his “last day off” for a while.

Joining the New Kids on the Block alum on Boston Blue are Sonequa Martin-Green, Maggie Lawson, Gloria Reuben, Marcus Scribner and Ernie Hudson. The series will see Danny Reagan relocating from New York to Massachusetts to take on a job with the Boston Police Department. It’s there that Danny is paired with a new partner, who has ties to a powerful police family not unlike the Reagans. Speaking of Danny’s relatives there’s still the question of whether the franchise’s other OG characters will pop up. While nothing has been confirmed on that front, I’m staying positive that more Reagans will appear.

More immediately, though, I’m just ready to see what Boston Blue has in store when it comes to the fresh elements it’ll bring to this fictional universe. Let’s hope it’s not too long before Donnie Wahlberg sees fit to grace us with yet another sweet BTS tease. Even though Blue Bloods ended after 14 seasons last December, the show's characters are still very much alive, thanks to the new spinoff Boston Blue. Donnie Wahlberg will be reprising his role as Detective Danny Reagan when the drama hits the 2025 TV schedule, surrounded by a brand new cast, but I’ve been wondering about the chances of Tom Selleck and other Reagan family members appearing in the new show, and Wahlberg has some comments about it.

Considering how outspoken Selleck was about Blue Bloods’ cancellation and wanting to continue playing Frank Reagan, it was a surprise that a spinoff was ordered, and it didn’t include him. Of course, it’s still as exciting as ever knowing that the series will continue with Boston Blue and Danny Reagan, but what does this mean for the rest of the family? Wahlberg’s previous comments made me optimistic that the Reagan family dinners will continue, and in a new interview with Parade, he’s making me hopeful that the series finale isn’t the last we’ve see of them:

New York City and Boston are about five hours, give or take, so it could be fairly easy to get a surprise visit from another Reagan. Whether Frank wants to check in on his son and see how he’s doing in his new position, Erin randomly drops in on her brother, Jamie and Eddie visiting with baby Reagan, or maybe they can just appear via a video chat. Even if it’s not for long, it sounds like there are plenty of possibilities for the Reagans to make an appearance, regardless of Selleck's reported feelings toward it.

While not a direct spinoff, Boston Blue is still in the Blue Bloods universe and will likely still feel very much like the original show, even without much of the main cast fans have grown attached to over the last 14 years. Wahlberg knows how much the show means to the fans, and how important it is to them and many others:

Along with Martin-Green, the new cast of Boston Blue also consists of Gloria Reuben, Ernie Hudson, Maggie Lawson, and Marcus Scribner, and likely more to be announced soon. It will be hard to watch a Blue Bloods show without most of the Reagans and without the famed Reagan family dinners, but there is still hope that some of them will be returning, and fans will be getting their family dinners again, albeit for one episode, probably.

More information surrounding Boston Blue and potential guest stars should be announced in the coming months. It's hard to believe it’s already been a year since the Blue Bloods cast and crew filmed the final episode after 14 seasons. The series officially ended until December and, around that point, the cast and crew shared fond memories of the show. When it comes to this recent anniversary, Wahlberg took to his Instagram stories to repost a photo posted by executive producer Kevin Wade, which sows series finale call sheet. Wahlberg also added the caption “Last day of an era”:

This actually isn’t the first time that the series finale call sheet has been shared on social media. Last year, after filming wrapped, EP and writer Siobhan Byrne O’Connor included the bottom portion of the call sheet in a series of photos she posted. At the time, O'Connor's post referenced the famed Reagan family dinners. Fans can see that Wade’s recent photo gives more of a look at what the final day of production consisted of. Also, in his post, Wade shared a message for the fans who tuned in for 14 years:

Marisa Ramirez, who portrayed Maria Baez, also commemorated the end of BB filming with a sweet Instagram post, with which she looked back at her time making the show Even though Danny will be in a new city with a new partner for Boston Blue, Ramirez is not letting that fact hinder her feelings about the original show. She shouted out the “best cast and crew in the business" and posted a picture of herself in full Baez gear. Check out the post, which is making me miss Marisa so much:

Plenty of fans took to the comments of Ramirez’s post to share how much they miss Blue Bloods. And they’re not the only ones. Ramirez’s co-star, Abigail Hawk (who portrayed Abigail Baker) expressed love for Ramirez, and it makes me wish that Detectives Baez and Baker had more scenes together:

Even though the spinoff is on the way, I still feel a way about Blue Bloods' cancellation, especially knowing how well the show was doing in the ratings. Additionally, lead actor Tom Selleck publicly voiced his opinion on the cancellation and his desire to continue playing Frank Reagan. That doesn’t mean that more Reagans won’t show up on Boston Blue, but they more than likely won't show up all that frequently.

Nevertheless, fans of the franchise still have their memories of Blue Bloods to look to. I'm also glad to see Donnie Wahlberg and co. look back on filming the final episode. New Kids On The Block Is Taking Over Las Vegas

For starters, New Kids on the Block will be starting their Las Vegas residency later this month, with dates stretching into early July, with dates also including November and February. Since the residency kicks off on June 20, Wahlberg and his fellow NKOTB members will likely be starting rehearsals if they haven’t already. It’s pretty impressive that the group is continuing to still do well, 40 years after it first formed, and Wahlberg is still as into it as ever.

Blue Blood's Boston Spinoff Will Begin Filming

That’s not all. Amid the group’s residency, Wahlberg will also be returning to his role as Detective Danny Reagan for the new Blue Bloods series, Boston Blue, later this fall. He is used to singing with New Kids and then going straight to set, making it all the more impressive that he’s able to balance the two so well and for so long. And that will continue as it’s likely some of the NKOTB residency dates will be around filming dates. But it’s nothing that Wahlberg hasn’t done before.

Even though I’m still worried about Wahlberg pushing himself so much as he’s been doing for years, I’m excited for all that he’s going to be doing over the next several months. Between the residency and Boston Blue, Wahlberg is certainly living the dream, and fans are living the dream right alongside him.

As of now, a premiere date for Boston Blue has yet to be announced, but it did get a fall TV update and is confirmed to be debuting later this year. Fittingly, it will be airing in the 10 p.m. ET slot on Fridays that was held by Blue Bloods for most of its 14-season run. Whether Boston Blue will be able to match the magic that was Blue Bloods is unknown, but it will be exciting to see Wahlberg back on screen and back on stage.

There was a lot of shock and sadness when CBS canceled Blue Bloods, but slowly and surely, the cast and fans are finding ways to move forward. For example, Donnie Wahlberg is gearing up for his spinoff, Boston Blue, and he's excited about his new show and chapter. However, he also got candid about how Blue Bloods' ending impacted his feelings toward his next outing as Danny.

Boston Blue is planned for the 2025 TV schedule and will premiere on CBS in the fall. In an interview with Deadline, Wahlberg talked about the new series and how learning about it somewhat forced him to move on and accept that, despite their best efforts to save Blue Bloods, it wasn't going to come back:

However, the legacy of the series will continue with Danny Reagan, who is shipping off to Boston to continue his career in law enforcement.

Obviously, there's bound to be bittersweet feelings about this amongst fans who wanted Tom Selleck and others along for the ride. At the same time, Wahlberg continued in noting that while Blue Bloods is over, there's always a chance for the legacy to live on through Boston Blue:

The actor certainly has a lot more to say about the show compared to his three-word response when Boston Blue was first announced. Perhaps enough time has passed, and he can speak a bit more candidly about being excited for a new opportunity to tell stories in the Blue Bloods universe, and fans are in a more understanding place to receive that message.

And for anyone who thinks the actor was eager to cut out on his own series and leave the previous one in the dust, that doesn't seem to be the case. Saying goodbye to a series that potentially had a chance at being saved is not easy, as he illustrated below:

I'm not sure many people could say goodbye to a job they've held for 14 years and have zero emotion about it. Donnie Wahlberg is the same as us, minus the fact that he'll have his own TV show in primetime in the fall and the rest of us won't. Even so, it's good to know he still has love for Blue Bloods and is excited for the road ahead.

Boasting such massive franchises such as NCIS and Survivor, CBS has rarely been synonymous with short-lived series, though the network has made quite a few shocking cancellations across the past year or two, with several of those big shows wrapping up this year.It’s safe to say that 2024’s biggest loss, at least in terms of length and viewership, was Blue Bloods, which the network officially canceled in 2023 before later ordering up a Donnie Wahlberg-starring spinoff.

Since that news first broke, updates about the Boston-set follow-up series have been pretty minimal, and it’s still not 100% confirmed if the working title will remain Boston Blue or not. But Wahlberg himself addressed the upcoming 2025 series in a way that longtime viewers should be pumped about. Because even though he doesn’t specifically mention the beloved Reagan family dinners, it seems pretty clear that’s what he’s referring to.

Speaking with Fox News about trying to convince CBS to give Blue Bloods another season, which is something Tom Selleck struggled with as well, Donnie Wahlberg spoke warmly about not just his co-stars, but also everyone behind the scenes who kept the show afloat from one week to the next, and said they group at large weighed heavily on his mind when approaching the sequel offer. As he put it:

Given how dedicated Wahlberg is to mixing it up with fans both on social media and in the real world — the dude goes above and beyond for New Kids on the Block's fandom in particular — he's definitely conscious of what audiences will expect and hope for whenever Boston Blue arrives this fall. And he knows Danny isn't the only Reagan that fans will be looking out for, especially during episodes' final scenes.

As someone who fought for Blue Bloods' survival, Wahlberg knew how important it was to be tasked with steering the new show in solo mode, and felt it was the right move to say yes. But he then dropped a huge tease indicating he won't be the lone Reagan family member popping up on primetime. In his words:

Now, we probably shouldn't expect the full clan to gather, and the dinner scene in Blue Bloods' series finale was potentially the last time that so many of the O.G. cast members will be seen breaking bread together. But it sounds like there could be some variations to that norm, to allow for the drama's status quo endings to continue relatively unabated.

Perhaps Danny will have one or two family members stopping by from week to week to get a meal in at his new Boston digs. Or maybe Danny will put a bunch of tablets around a dinner table and have the squad pop up via Zoom calls. The options may not be endless, but the expectations that fans will have are indeed unending.

While no exact timeline has been revealed for Boston Blue, the drama will presumably begin filming this summer so that it can make a proper debut on CBS's Fall TV schedule. Stay tuned for more updates, and leave a spot open at the table just in case.

The fact that there are currently no new episodes of Blue Bloods (which ended its 14-season run in 2024) airing during the 2025 TV schedule is tough. Those feelings are only amplified for me now, considering that new Friday 10 p.m. ET slot holder, S.W.A.T., has been canceled (again). Luckily, fans won’t be going long without the Reagans, as a new spinoff starring Donnie Wahlberg. This all came after Tom Selleck was pushing for more BB and, now a new report, features claims about his feelings on the follow-up.

Over the past several months, Tom Selleck has been very vocal about not wanting Blue Bloods to end, and he hoped that CBS would reverse its decision. Ahead of the series finale, he even proposed a way to keep it going, mentioning it could go to streaming and air 10 episodes per season. Selleck did eventually, in some way, get his wish for a franchise expansion but not the way he planned. With that, a source tells RadarOnline that the Frank Reagan actor is supposedly not very happy:

With the new series being set in Boston, the Reagans will indeed be split up, and the notion of that is admittedly a bit weird, given their closeness. That being said, there are only so many storylines to tackle in New York City. Also, much of the cast had ideas for their characters' futures, and some of those included leaving the Big Apple.

These fresh claims regarding Tom Selleck's feelings on the new show and its change of backdrop should be taken with a grain of salt right now. As of this writing, Selleck hasn't formally spoken out about the show. In the aftermath of the veteran actor's open frustration with the parent show's cancellation, the source went on to share more about Selleck allegedly feeling slighted:

Even though Boston Blue will mainly follow Danny, it’s possible that his family will visit him, or he might visit his family. That could potentially open the door for guest appearances from franchise alums, including Tom Selleck's Frank. No other Blue Bloods alums have been confirmed for the spinoff just yet, but the notion of them popping up here and there certainly isn't far-fetched. Plus, if this offshoot is a success, there's also the possibility that it could present opportunities for other spinoffs starring familiar characters.

Whether Tom Selleck truly feels disdain for the spinoff is anyone's guess but, as a fan, I'm hopeful that viewers haven't seen the last of Frank. When the Fall TV season hits the 2025 premiere schedule, audiences will get to watch singer and actor Donnie Wahlberg back on the broadcast crimefighter beat in the recently revealed Blue Bloods spinoff titled Boston Blue. For all that New York City was his stomping grounds until CBS canceled the long-running drama, Wahlberg will now be joining the police force located in his own hometown, even if we don’t notice any wicked lahge changes to his accent.

To date, it doesn’t appear as if the New Kids on the Block member has taken part in any major interviews where he could cheer and celebrate. And so all we have to go on for Wahlberg’s reaction to the spinoff news is a Stories post on his Instagram page in which he shared a brief but meaningful message with fans alongside a report about the spinoff's order:

Obviously he wasn't speaking to the city of Boston with that message, and I think it's fair to say he also wasn't talking to CBS execs, the new show's producers, or any of the cast members that haven't been announced yet.

Nope, he was talking to all his followers and fans who were disappointed by the cancellation news, and yet still remained extremely hopeful that CBS would reverse the decision, only for the network to hold firm. As well as everyone who wasn't as vocal about their desires, and remained quietly patient during the year-plus wait between the first spinoff talks and the official series order. What We Know About Boston Blue So Far

• Boston Blue is currently only the working title for the new drama, and it may change as the creative process continues.
• CBS confirmed its straight-to-series order for the new project to debut during the 2025-2026 TV season, but without an episode count. So it's still unclear if it will definitely arrive in the fall, or if it will be saved for a midseason debut in the winter.
• The basic synopsis notes that Wahlberg's Danny Reagan takes a job with Boston PD, and once he's officially on the force, he's paired with Lena Peters, who is like Danny in that she's a sibling within a family where law enforcement is a common profession.
• The Blacklist writers/producers Brandon Sonnier and Brandon Margolis, who are currently also executive producers for Fox's Alert: MPU, will serve as showrunners and EPS on Boston Blue.
• Jerry Bruckheimer will also serve as an EP, with his shingle JBTV getting an "in association with" production credit alongside CBS Studios.

Even though we thought we’d seen the final Reagan family dinner when Blue Bloods’ series finale aired in December 2024, fans were hoping that CBS execs would soon be adding a new chapter to the wildly popular crime drama. That day has finally arrived, many months after spinoff talks were formally addressed, and while the new show will be making a huge location change, at least one familiar face will be back, with Donnie Wahlberg set as a series lead.

Though Tom Selleck doesn’t want to “do Frank Reagan II” with his Blue Blood follow-up projects, it looks like Donnie Wahlberg just wasn’t quiet ready to turn in his badge and weapon, even if he won’t be rocking an NYPD uniform the next time we see him on the small screen, which will be as part of the 2025 TV schedule.

Danny Reagan Is Moving To Boston

It’s a move that sounds like it could have been legitimately written (or at least formally requested) by Donnie Wahlberg himself, the (first) Blue Bloods spinoff will take a hop, skip and a jump form New York City to Boston, Mass. While the details behind the switch aren’t yet clear, CBS’ announcement does indeed confirm that Danny will be joining Boston PD.

What’s more, we already know who he’ll be sharing the screen and stakeout meals with, though the character doesn’t appear to have been cast just yet. Danny will be partnered with a detective named Lena Peters, who also happens to come from a prestigious family filled with law enforcement members and veterans.

Sounds like Danny will almost definitely have plenty of opportunities to talk about his own family, especially if Lena starts any sentences with, “The way we do things around here…” And one can always hope to see a sibling like Will or Erin to make a visit, if not Frank himself.

It's not so likely that any other Blue Bloods stars will be hired on as series regulars in Boston Blue, since it wouldn't make sense for everyone to uproot their lives for Danny. It doesn't sound like Tom Selleck has been asked, and co-star Steve Schirripa recently revealed his latest Hallmark movie, so he presumably won't be around full-time either.

Back in October 2024, when Abigail Hawk was asked about any updates, she claimed that previous conversations about follow-up projects weren't tied to any returning Reagan family members, and the series would have reportedly shifted even further away from New York, likely to Los Angeles. It's unclear if any of those prior plans were reworked for this newly announced spinoff, or if this is a completely original take.

Boston Blue Was Created By S.W.A.T. And The Blacklist Vets

Knowing that Donnie Wahlberg will be in front of the camera rocks, and that's thankfully not the only place where broadcast TV talent will be found for Boston Blue. The pair of creatives who will be serving as showrunners are Brandon Sonnier and Brandon Margolis, who previously served as writers/producers on The Blacklist and S.W.A.T. among others in the network procedural realm.

The duo also co-created L.A.'s Finest, the Gabriell Union and Jessica Alba-starring crime drama that jumped from Spectrum's short-lived streaming service to Fox for its two-season run. I would easily welcome either Union or Alba to join Wahlberg for Boston Blue, but we'll have to wait on more casting news.

Great actors don't need a lot of makeup or total body transformations to improve their performance, but when you get the combination of a great and those things, the effect can be amazing. Sometimes the effect is so good the actors become completely unrecognizable, like the examples in this list where actors like Jared Leto and Gary Oldman were completely transformed for roles.

Jared Leto - House Of Gucci

It's fair to say that House Of Gucci was, at best, an uneven movie. It was a daunting challenge for everyone involved and none more so than Jared Leto. Leto played the legendary Paolo Gucci, and while his accent was a little shaky, his look and his mannerisms were completely on point. It's one heck of a transformation.

Charlize Theron - Monster

There is no more intense transformation for a role than Charlize Theron's performance as real-life serial killer Aileen Wuornos in Monster. Theron completely embodies the monster that Wuoronos was, while also subtly allowing the audience to understand how the killer became the way she was. Theron rightfully won an Academy Award for her portrayal of the brutal murderer.

Christian Bale - Vice

Christian Bale is one of the best actors of his generation and he's never been afraid to alter his look for a performance. The Machinist is one excellent example, but even that transformation pales in comparison to the way he completely became Dick Cheney in Vice. Not only does he look just like the former vice president, but he nails his speech pattern and mannerisms as well. It's remarkable.

Lily James - Pam & Tommy

When Lily James was cast as Pamela Anderson in Pam & Tommy it raised a few eyebrows. The actress seemed like a complete opposite in every way, especially her looks, as the blonde bombshell. Yet, when the movie came out, people were amazed at how well James pulled it off. No, it's not the best movie, but James was the spitting image of Anderson.

Gary Oldman - True Romance

One actor who is truly a master of disguise is Gary Oldman. He seemingly looks completely different in almost every role he plays. One of the most astounding transformations was early in his career when he played a pimp in True Romance. He literally looks and sounds nothing like himself in the film, to the point where if you didn't know it was him, you'd never guess.

Jessica Chastain - The Eyes of Tammy Faye

You know when a film wins the Academy Award for Best Makeup and Best Actress, the role is going to be special. Such is the case for Jessica Chastain in The Eyes of Tammy Faye. Chastain is completely unrecognizable in the role of the wife of the infamous Jim Bakker and is simply incredible in the movie.

Margot Robbie - I, Tonya

Turning Margot Robbie into a street tough figure skater like Tonya Harding is no easy feet. Through a combination of incredible makeup work and even better acting, Robbie completely disappears into the notorious skater made famous for her part in attacking her rival Nancy Kerrigan before the 1994 Olympics.

Glenn Close - Hook

Steven Spielberg's 1991 Hook isn't generally remembered as the legendary director's best work, but it is chock full of fun cameos and one of the hardest to spot is Glenn Close. The actress plays one of the pirates on Captain Hook's ship and if you don't look closely, you'll never notice the multiple Oscar nominee under the beard and makeup turning her into a male pirate.

Tilda Swinton - Trainwreck

The most remarkable thing about Tilda Swinton's transformation in the rom-com Trainwreck is just how conventional she looks. She looks more like Tripp than Paulson in every way.

Billy Bob Thornton In U-Turn

Billy Bob Thorton is one of the most fun actors to watch in everything he is in. Take, for example, his role in Sling Blade, in which he looks completely different from himself. Another fine example is as the mechanic in U-Turn with Sean Penn. If it wasn't for his distinctive voice, you'd never know it was him.

Eddie Murphy - Coming To America

For a while there, Eddie Murphy made it his job to look completely different in his movies like The Nutty Professor, but at no point in any of those movies did he transform quite like he did to play the Jewish guy who hung out in the barbershop in Coming To America. Tom Hardy has never been shy about taking on challenging roles that require him to transform completely. He changes so much, that you almost feel like you don't know what he actually looks like in real life. Bronson is one of his finest transformations as he looks way more like the notorious British prisoner than like himself in the movie. It's so much more than just a mustache, that's for sure.

Mark Wahlberg may be the more famous brother, but Donnie Wahlberg also has some incredible acting chops and his performance comes in his minor-ish role in The Sixth Sense. It's clear that the former (and current) New Kid On The Block lost a ton of weight for his haunting performance in the movie.

He certainly deserved the Oscar he won for the role.

By and large, the majority of the TV shows ending in 2024 that were canceled had to face such fates due to a pronounced lack of viewers or other behind-the-scenes issues, but that’s not so much the case with CBS’ losses this year. For instance, Blue Bloods was canceled back in November 2023, despite being one of the network’s most-watched shows from year to year, and ignoring complaints from stars like Tom Selleck. And the numbers for the final episode continue proving its value.

CBS unveiled the viewership numbers for Blue Bloods in the days after the acclaimed episode aired. It should be noted that parent company Paramount is not currently partnered with Nielsen for measurement purposes, and that these totals were reported using VideoAmp Overnight data.

Blue Bloods’ episode “End of Tour” was indeed quite the noteworthy success for all involved, as it is noted as having brought in around 6.7 million pairs of eyeballs for its Friday night airing on CBS following the midseason finales of S.W.A.T. and Fire Country. While not necessarily the biggest number in general, it’s worth noting that this total marked Blue Bloods’ biggest nightly audience for the entirety of Season 14, including both the most recent eps and the first 10 installments that aired from February to May.

What’s more, that total number of viewers marked the second straight week with an increase in viewership, as noted by TVLine. And it’s even 3% or so higher than the total overnight crowd who tuned into the midseason finale. If the network and traffic-tracking company’s estimates hold true, the episode could expand its total viewership outward to around 11.4 million after Live + 7 Day totals are tallied.

(Coincidentally enough, that’s the same number that Paramount touted as the total audience who watched Yellowstone’s series finale on Sunday night. That just measured the one night, but accounted for the episode’s numbers across Paramount Network and CMT.)

One would think and hope that such impressive numbers would light a metaphorical fire under CBS execs to stick with this series, at least as far as the previously announced franchise-expanding project concerned. It's unlikely the flagship will be brought back in full, but it still remains to be seen how a new project would focus on other elements familiar to this world.

Will Blue Bloods viewers follow Tom Selleck to his next project, or will they keep campaigning for CBS to renew the long-running drama for a new season? I can’t imagine Selleck will ever stop voicing his dismay anytime he’s asked about it, so perhaps we can hold out hope for the characters to return in the future at some point when network execs need a new Friday night staple.

It’s one of the only times fans see the entire family on-screen together. In addition to the final dinner having some special guests, Tom Selleck commemorated the scene in an emotional way.

Blue Bloods wrapped filming over the summer. Even though the final day on set was just like any other day, that doesn’t mean that there weren't still plenty of feelings. Wahlberg told Entertainment Weekly what it was like filming that final Reagan family dinner, and it sounds like everyone just tried their hardest to not sob:

The Reagan family dinners have certainly been a constant on Blue Bloods for almost 300 episodes, and the fact that the cast and crew managed to make it through the final scene is impressive. That’s not to say that it was easy, though, because once the scene was finished, no one wanted it to truly end. Wahlberg went on to share what Tom Selleck did to make it special:

Of course, everyone has had time to prepare for the end of Blue Bloods after it was announced last year that the Reagans would be leaving us. But filming those final scenes just made it all the more real, especially when “Wrap” was called on the dinner. Not to mention that the dinner was Selleck's first and final scene ever filmed. Luckily, he came through with a poem and it took Donnie Wahlberg back in time:

Despite playing Selleck's son for 14 seasons, it was still a dream for Wahlberg by the end. It shows just how much Blue Bloods means to him, especially since he admitted he “started crying and didn’t stop for a few hours” while thinking about what these last 14 years have been like. Wahlberg shared that he would be watching Selleck on TV with his mom and grandma, who are both gone now, and “how profound it was that somehow my life's journey had taken me to this moment," and that he "couldn't help but feel incredibly blessed and incredibly grateful in that moment.”

The Blue Bloods cast is certainly special, and not just because the original Magnum is on the show. It will be hard to say goodbye to the Reagans on Friday, but it's nice to hear one more time just how much the show and those family dinners meant to the cast.

Blue Bloods is preparing to end on the 2024 TV schedule, and next week, fans will have to say goodbye to the Reagan family. While many are still coming to terms with the end, the Blue Bloods cast said most of their goodbyes over the summer when filming wrapped. As they did that, they snagged some memorabilia to take home too. For example, Donnie Wahlberg grabbed a treasure trove of items, as he got some of Danny Reagan’s wardrobe and another great prop that I can't get over.

As with most shows that end, the cast of Blue Bloods was able to take home some pieces from the 14-season procedural, ranging from clothes to small knick knacks to big props. Wahlberg told People he was able to keep Danny’s key costumes, and they weren’t just for him to wear but for something else:

Just like how Disney has costumes hanging up at Hollywood Studios or museums hanging up costumes, it seems like Wahlberg wanted to do the same thing with Danny’s costumes, and I can’t say I blame him, they're iconic.

However, he arguably got to keep the most legendary prop too, as he revealed:

How the dinner table was still available is beyond me. Arguably, that dinner table was a main character of Blue Bloods’ run, and the Reagan family dinners are certainly the heart and soul of the series.

Also, while any other person would probably just take home a table like that, Wahlberg’s intentions for it are definitely the greatest. He didn’t say where he would put up it or for how long. However, my guess is it will likely be at a Wahlburgers restaurant somewhere.

Perhaps the best part of it all is the fact that the table will end up going to charity supporting widows and children of fallen officers. It’s what any Reagan would do, and it wouldn’t surprise me if the rest of the cast had similar plans for the props they decided to keep.

It’s still hard to believe that Blue Bloods is ending in a matter of days and is one of many shows on 2024’s list of ending or canceled series. However, it sounds like at least some of the props are going to good homes. There’s a good chance that a lot of it is still going to end up in a warehouse somewhere, but at the very least, some people will be able to make their own memories at the Reagan family dinner table.

Since it is the final stretch, it’s hard to tell just what will happen with the Reagan family and how each of their stories will wrap up. However, one arc that fans are hoping to see more of is the blossoming relationship between Danny and Baez, and Donnie Wahlberg’s latest comments are giving me hope.

Marisa Ramirez’s Maria Baez joined Blue Bloods in Season 3 as Danny’s partner after Jennifer Esposito left as Jackie Curatola. Since Danny was happily married, there was no chance that anything would happen between them, that is, until Linda died between Seasons 7 and 8. After that, fans started wanting Danny and Baez to get together. Now, Wahlberg has told TV Insider that while he’s aware of viewers wanting that romance, making it happen wouldn't be easy:

Fans have been clamoring for Danny and Baez to get together, and even the characters have occasionally addressed how much they mean to one another. However, it makes sense that the show wouldn’t want to immediately push Danny toward his partner after his wife died, and he does seem to be doing pretty well as a single dad. That doesn't mean this door for potential romance is closed, though.

There are only six episodes left, so there isn’t much time left. However, there's still hope for Danny and Baez. While Wahlberg couldn’t say too much about that partnership now that filming on Blue Bloods has been completed, his statement did give me hope that a bit of romance could be coming between these two, as he said:

I would love nothing more than to see Danny and Baez get together, and I desperately hope it happens in these final episodes. Wahlberg’s comments don’t necessarily mean that Danny and Baez are going to take their relationship to a romantic level before Blue Bloods ends. However, it does give me a little bit more hope, especially knowing that we’ll be smiling and crying about it at the end.

As one of the many shows ending and canceled in 2024, Blue Bloods will surely go out with a bang and hopefully a sprinkle of romance. The dream would be for Danny and Baez to finally get together and stop denying those clear feelings they have for each other. However, fans will just have to wait and see if that happens by watching new episodes of Blue Bloods on Fridays at 10 p.m. ET on CBS.

While performing with Tom Selleck just watching sounds a bit intimidating, it also sounds really nice. Plus, since Wahlberg worked with him for over a decade, having him on set for his final scenes must have been emotional for a lot of reasons.

Speaking of final shots, Tom Selleck revealed his first and final scenes ever filmed for Blue Bloods were, appropriately, Reagan family dinners. While it's unknown what the last scene of the CBS drama will be since shows are almost always filmed out of order, it makes the most sense for it to be a family dinner. So, here's hoping our last moments with this family are together, just like Selleck and Wahlberg got to be together during their scenes.

Of course, that doesn’t mean that it’s always 100% perfect for him. At the end of the day, though, it seems he’s doing exactly what he wanted to do, regardless of his busy schedule, and that’s a true blessing.

Some may be curious as to whether or not Donnie Wahlberg's two professions ever intersect. Well, that happened on at least one occasion. Wahlberg recalled how Tom Selleck once gave him feedback on an awards show performance and, based on how the singer/actor describes it, it sounds like a truly tender moment:

Selleck previously credited the family dinners as a reason for Blue Bloods lasting so long, because it’s something that fans always look forward to, it’s a great way to have everyone in a scene together, and it makes that family dynamic all the more believable.

Speaking of believable, being reminded that some of the cast actually eats during the family dinners makes all this even better. Donnie Wahlberg managed to do this pretty well, in fact, and he explained how, saying:

Everyone has their own tips for getting through these scenes after 14 seasons of Blue Bloods, and it’s clear that there are some masters of the family dinners. Now that Vanessa Ray has been doing them for six seasons, she probably has some of her own tips as well.

While learning about how these iconic scenes is certainly fun, these final Reagan family dinners are going to be hard to watch. Blue Bloods is preparing to air its final eight episodes on the 2024 TV schedule, and now that CBS’ premiere week is finally upon us, the fact that the end is coming is feeling very real. The network previously released a first look at the final batch of episodes featuring one of the final Reagan family dinners, and now Donnie Wahlberg is getting in on the promo. He's, of course, doing this by showing off his wrestling skills ahead of Season 14’s premiere, and I really hope the WWE is taking notice.

In celebration of Friday’s premiere, Wahlberg took to Instagram to share a fun promo that will definitely help with the emotions everybody is probably feeling. He shared a behind-the-scenes video of him roughing someone up on set with a WWE broadcast sound in the background, and he wrote a caption that exclaimed that Danny Reagan is back this Friday. Despite Danny being a detective, his true calling might have been wrestling, and perhaps the same can be said for Wahlberg based on this A+ video:

Okay, that might be a bit far-fetched, especially since Wahlberg, a self-proclaimed "professional actor, acting like a professional wrestler," was “fighting” with his friend, Jerry Todisco, a professional wrestler and actor. However, there's no denying that the stage fighting going on here was very entertaining.

Honestly, it is pretty impressive to see how well he can act like a professional wrestler. Personally, I'd love to see the WWE call him up one of these days to do a promotional stunt or something to that effect. However, that is only a dream. Regardless of all that though, this is such a fun way to promote Blue Bloods since Danny will be taking down even more bad guys in the final season.

Considering this is the final batch of episodes, the stakes are going to be as high as ever. That also means the bad guys will probably be putting up an even bigger fight, so fans may see some of Danny’s wrestling moves on screen.

Wrestling potential aside, Blue Bloods heading into its final episodes after 14 seasons is going to cause all sorts of emotions. Tom Selleck has been vocal about not wanting the show to end. Plus, there have been reports that Blue Bloods might even stick around, as Donie Wahlberg said "maybe there'll be something else" after the final episodes. Whether or not that will actually happen remains to be seen, but no matter what, these last eight episodes will surely be action-packed and emotional.

Ever since it was learned that Blue Bloods was becoming one of 2024’s TV cancellations — ending a 14-year run on CBS this fall — fans have been campaigning to save the police procedural. Turns out, that’s not all they’re campaigning for. As we prepare for the remaining episodes of Season 14 to hit the 2024 TV schedule, Blue Bloods fans have been touting Donnie Walhberg to win People’s Sexiest Man Alive. The Danny Reagan actor himself responded to the outpouring of love, amusingly throwing his co-star Tom Selleck into the conversation.

The final episodes of Blue Bloods are set to kick off on October 18, and just a few weeks after that, People magazine will announce its readers’ pick for Sexiest Man Alive 2024. Fans apparently mocked up a magazine cover as if the New Kids on the Block singer had been picked, and Donnie Wahlberg shared his appreciation on Instagram Stories, where he gave his thoughts on who he thinks really deserves the honor. Wahlberg wrote:

It’s actually a really nice sentiment that Donnie Wahlberg would consider himself the “luckiest” or “happiest” man alive before he’d think of himself as sexy, but you can’t fight the opinion of the masses, and they have spoken.

He does make some good choices, though. The actor’s NKOTB bandmate Jonathan Knight is actually on the ballot, up for Sexiest “handy man,” which is in reference to his HGTV show Farmhouse Fixer.

Tom Selleck, meanwhile, has been one of Hollywood’s most attractive men — with one of the best mustaches in TV history — for decades, so writing his name on the ballot wouldn’t likely inspire any skeptical side-eye. I do love that Donnie Wahlberg threw his TV dad’s name into the ring, and even if the fictional Reagan men aren’t represented in People magazine come November, they’ll still be highly celebrated by fans enjoying their final Blue Bloods episodes.

People have really loved watching Danny Reagan — one of TV’s smartest detectives — over the years and his dynamic with New York City Police Commissioner Frank Reagan, not to mention his sister, ADA Erin Reagan (Bridget Moynahan), and other Reagan family members. Donnie Wahlberg and Moynahan seem to have grown especially close, developing a real-life sibling relationship.

The show’s cancellation has been hard for even its stars to accept, with Tom Selleck making very public comments about his displeasure and keeping hope alive that CBS would change its mind. Donnie Wahlberg has also teased there might be “something else” in the works. We’re definitely down for all the Reagan family dinners they’re willing to cook.

Donnie Wahlberg and Tom Selleck may not be People’s sexiest men, but they’re certainly good enough for Blue Bloods fans, and we’ll definitely be keeping an eye on them for the series’ final eight episodes. The conclusion of Blue Bloods Season 14 starts at 10 p.m. ET Friday, October 18, on CBS, and all episodes to date are available to stream with a Paramount+ subscription.
