The Hollywood community and the world at large experienced a serious loss earlier this year when beloved actor Eric Dane died at 53. Before his passing, Dane had sadly been battling ALS and, all the while, he’d been candid about how it was impacting his health. Now, it would seem that only months following Dane’s death, another notable actor has succumbed to the neurodegenerative disease. French thespian Pierre Deny, who many surely know for his work on Emily in Paris, has also passed away due to ALS at 69.

News of Deny’s death was broken this past Monday, May 25, with French outlet TF1Info sharing the news. It was Deny’s family, however, that ultimately confirmed the actor’s death by sharing a statement. Those sentiments read as follows:

Pierre Deny’s acting career began in earnest in the 1980s, at which point he began working in theater. As noted by TF1Info, the seasoned performer would eventually land roles in French TV shows, and those include Julie Lescaut, Tomorrow Is Ours and Demain nous appartient. More recently, Deny played the role of businessman Louis de Leon during the third and fourth seasons of Emily in Paris. Leon is the father of Nicholas de Léon (Paul Forman), a love interest for Ashley Park’s Mindy Chen.

ALS – or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis – is a condition that affects the nervous system, specifically the nerve cells that affect both the brain and spinal cord. Eventually, anyone with the disease begins to experience paralysis and muscle loss that only worsen with time. Sadly, there’s no known cure for the condition.

During the latter part of his life, Eric Dane didn’t hold back his feelings about his diagnosis, even admitting to being “angry” that he’d been taken away from his children at a young age as his father was taken from him. Nevertheless, Dane did have considerable support as he battled the disease, as he received love from Jensen Ackles and support from others like Johnny Depp and Jesse Williams. Despite his circumstances, Dane also continued to work, as he guest-starred on Brilliant Minds and reprised his role as Cal Jacobs for Euphoria Season 3.

It’s truly unfortunate that neither Dane nor Pierre Deny are still with us and that they had to deal with the effects of a disease like ALS. What I find comforting is the notion of their work being enjoyed for years to come. And, of course, there’s also the possibility that their experiences can help motivate the public to understand more about ALS.

As Season 5 of Emily in Paris premiered, I found myself asking some age-old questions, like: Will Emily be able to speak fluent French this season? And will Emily and Gabriel get together again? I also found myself wondering how long Emily had been in Paris. Well, the cast tried to answer that last question about the show's timeline, and all I have to say is…yikes.

The Cast Of Emily In Paris Did Not Come To A Consensus About How Long Emily Has Been In Paris

While Emily in Paris has been on since 2020 and we’ve gotten five seasons, it’s clear that the amount of time that’s passed in our reality is not how much time has passed in Emily’s. So, the show's actors and the creator pondered this question and tried to answer it during an interview with ET.

Some of them actually tried to work out the timeline and make a solid guess with real numbers. Here’s what the Emily in Paris cast came up with:

• Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu (Sylvie): I’d say like two or three years. Maybe three, ‘cause we’ve had summers. No, maybe two. Two.
• William Abadie (Antoine): It’s so funny, you should mention that, because I had an argument with a colleague of mine, I was like ‘It’s been four years!’ She was like, ‘No, it’s been four months!’
• Ashley Park (Mindy): For me, I think between the first two seasons and then the next two, it was only like a couple days. And I think that that was over the course of beginning of spring into end of summer. And then we had our winter. I think it’s only been a year.

So, it’s been anywhere from four months to four years based on the range above. That’s…not helpful. I have to say, though, I appreciate the thought and effort, and they provided a wide enough range that I'd assume the right amount of time is in there somewhere.

However, maybe we shouldn’t be thinking about time, I mean, it is just a construct, right? Well, that’s what the show’s star and creator want you to think, as they explained:

• Lily Collins (Emily): It is a timeless loop. You know what, it’s a beautiful, aspirational, stunning show that I think time is just – it’s just a construct. Who cares?
• Darren Star (creator): All I can say is time is elastic. Time is elastic and very subjective.
• Arnaud Binard (Laurent): The vision of Darren [Star] is such a, some sort of a fantasy, you know? So, yeah, it’s timeless.

You know, this is the philosophy I like to believe in when it comes to Emily in Paris. If a season were to premiere on the 2026 TV schedule, the time it takes place during would not worry me. I’d just want to vibe in Paris (or Greece) with Emily and co. and live my best fashionable life.

Here’s the thing, though, while the cast and crew didn’t have a definitive and scientific answer, and I've chosen to accept that time is irrelevant here, one guy actually did attempt to figure out how long Emily’s been in Paris.

Someone On TikTok Really Tried To Figure Out How Long Emily Has Been In Pairs

In a 21-minute TikTok, samageiger earnestly tried to figure out “how long Emily has actually been in Paris.” He went through the show’s timeline up to Season 4 (Season 5 hadn’t premiered yet) and diagramed it, as you can see below:

The conclusion he ultimately came to was unclear. However, he did provide some guesses, saying:

He explained that Emily in Paris mostly exists in “perpetual warmth,” however, Christmas really threw a wrench in things and “forces us to reckon with the reality of temporal chronology.” So, what he said above might not be right. To that point, he tried to come to a conclusion again and said that at “face value” with all the “spring resets” and “weirdness,” Emily has been there for maybe ten to 11 months.

Ultimately, like the cast, he couldn’t come up with a solid answer and said:

Well, no matter who you ask, there’s no clear conclusion here. However, I think that’s fine and plays into the fun of Emily in Paris, which you can stream in full with a Netflix subscription right now.

As Lily Collins said, it’s a “timeless loop,” and time is just a construct, so maybe we shouldn’t be thinking so hard about this.

After Dancing with the Stars' viral year, I’ve been thinking a lot about who could be on the next season. I’m not going to lie, when I watched Season 5 of Emily in Paris, I was thinking about how Ashley Park would be a great fit, seeing as she always kills Mindy’s musical numbers. However, while chatting with the actress about a dance moment in the new episodes, she noted that one of her co-stars would be a good fit for the reality competition too. I gotta say, I see the vision here.

As Season 5 of Emily in Paris premiered on the 2025 TV schedule, and I spoke to Lily Collins and Ashley Park about the ending involving Gabriel and Emily in Greece. I also asked about Mindy’s romantic situation. She wound up in quite the love triangle with Nico (Paul Forman) and Alfie (Lucien Laviscount), so I had to ask about her new relationship with Laviscount’s character, specifically. That led to us chatting about the scene where Mindy and Alfie were practicing a dance, and ultimately did the Dirty Dancing lift.

Park explained that she’d “never laughed harder” working on the scene, and proceeded to hype up her co-star’s skills (and Dancing with the Stars potential), saying:

This statement got both Park and Collins laughing. However, I could totally see both the Mindy and Alfie actors killing it on DWTS. The Joy Ride actress would be a natural on the show, seeing as she has a background in musical theater. Meanwhile, while Laviscount isn’t a trained dancer, he did prove he has what it takes to become one during this season of Emily in Paris.

Ashley Park noted that too, as she explained:

Now, I am not a person who criticizes DWTS for having people with dance experience on the show; in fact, I love seeing a range of skill levels represented. Therefore, I think Park would be a great person to cast for it. However, I also really love it when someone who knows very little about dance competes, learns and shows off immense growth across the entire season. Based on Lucien Laviscount’s performance in Emily in Paris, I think he could do just that.

He fully committed to the dance in Emily in Paris, as you can see when you stream Season 5, Episode 3 with a Netflix subscription, and that’s the kind of energy you need to succeed on Dancing with the Stars. So, yes, I totally get why Ashley Park had this thought, and now, I’d like to see it turned into a reality!

I can see it now, Laviscount being paired with someone like Jenna Johnson or Daniella Karagach (or any pro, really) would be so fun.

He and Park also made for excellent dance partners in Emily in Paris; he clearly can learn how to dance, and so, I’d love to see how he grows as a dancer if he got to compete on DWTS.

Well, when Season 5 of Emily in Paris ended, I found myself asking, “So, Emily in Greece?” Therefore, I had to ask Lily Collins and Ashley Park that question. Their answers were delightful, too, as they threw out some ideas for what could happen if the titular character goes from Paris to Greece.

Once I finished watching the episodes of Emily in Paris that dropped on the 2025 TV schedule, I couldn’t stop thinking about the postcard Gabriel sent the titular character that asked her to meet him in Greece. So, when I interviewed Lily Collins and Ashley Park, I asked them if she was headed there next. In response, the Emily actress said during our interview for CinemaBlend:

In the same interview, Collins spoke to me about Gabriel and Emily’s relationship and how they’re in a new place together. They respect each other, they’re living their own lives, and it might be too soon to reignite that romance.

So, maybe this trip to Greece can be something else instead, and not focus on the love triangle Emily and Gabriel seem to always be in. On that note, Ashley Park proposed that Greece could be where Mindy’s bachelorette party happens, considering she’s engaged to Nico now. She said:

You know what, I love this idea! While I do think Emily and Gabriel are endgame, I don’t think they’re ready to be romantic yet. So, maybe they can have a fun carefree trip in Greece with their pals, and evolve their friendship further. Plus, who wouldn’t love a nice meal from the chef? And not just any chef, a prestigious and acclaimed chef.

I'll admit, a bachelorette party could get weird if Mindy's feelings for Alfie come up. However, on the whole, I'm here for her and Emily taking a girls' trip to Greece to celebrate Mindy's big life update (even if it's complicated).

Honestly, I love this little fantasy, and I want to see these gals live like they’re in Mamma Mia, especially considering how excited Park and Collins were about the potential to go to Greece, as you can see in the clip below:

Listen, I hope they got to Greece too! I loved seeing Emily in Rome this season, and while Paris will always be the show’s home, it’s fun to watch her bop around Europe with Mindy and co.

Season 5 of Emily in Paris saw Lily Collins’ titular character make some very mature decisions that led to her deciding to stay in Paris. However, in the final seconds of the season that dropped on the 2025 TV schedule, Gabriel (Lucas Bravo) sent her a postcard that feels like it could change everything. So, I asked the actress who plays Emily about this postcard and what it could say about her future with the chef.

Now, to recap, at the end of Season 5, Emily decides to break up with Marcello (Eugenio Franceschini) so they can both live full lives in their respective homes. It’s a mature decision, and it seems to be the best choice she could make. Then, in the final scene of the season, her long-time love interest, Gabriel, sends her a postcard that asks if she could meet him in Greece, as you can see below.

So, that led me to wonder if Emily would actually respond to the postcard and go to Greece. During an interview with CinemaBlend, I asked Lily Collins and Ashley Park (who plays Mindy) about it too, and they said:

• Lily Collins: Emily, this time in at the end of this season, is actually really good in her love life with herself.
• Ashley Park: Yeah, Mindy’s the messy one.

Mindy is the messy one this season, with her love triangle involving Nico (Paul Forman) and Alfie (Lucien Laviscount). Meanwhile, Emily is really assured in herself and her love life. So, when it comes to Gabriel, they’re actually in a particularly good place when he sends that postcard, as Collins said:

Now, considering Gabriel and Emily’s tumultuous past, this response makes perfect sense. For once, they’re in a great place during Season 5. But could this postcard change things?

Continuing to speak about how her character might react to that note, Lily Collins told me that she doesn’t think it’ll lead to anything romantic. In fact, she thinks it’s “too soon,” explaining:

I think she’s right. While I did find myself rooting for Emily and Gabriel to try again as Season 5 aired on Netflix’s 2025 schedule, I also love where they’re at individually. Also, I agree that Emily has moved on. Maybe feelings can be rekindled; however, for now, it seems that the chef is the one doing the pining, not her.

To that point, Ashley Park and Collins spoke about how this calls back to Season 4’s ending while pointing out how the tables have turned between Emily and Gabriel:

• Ashley Park: It’s kind of the end of last season, too. She’s like off on a Vespa in Rome, and Gabriel’s like ‘Mindy, where are her coordinates?’
• Lily Collins: Yeah, kind of nice to see the shift from Season 1 and 2 with Emily and Gabriel, and now it's like she's the one that's pretty solid, you know?

Now, if Emily in Paris gets renewed for Season 6, I’d love to see how she reacts to this postcard. Will she say no? Will she go? If she goes, will a romance be rekindled, or will they decide to just stay friends? These are all questions I need answers to. However, Collins’ response to it seems to imply that it might be too soon for anything romantic to happen between them.

Overall, I do think it’s safe to say that no matter what happens, Emily and Gabriel are not the pair they were at the start of this show, and they have evolved and matured so much individually. So, hopefully, whatever happens next will be good for both of them and lead to healthy choices regarding the future of their relationship.

A new season of Emily in Paris is set to hit the 2025 TV schedule, which means fans are about to get another dose of the show’s lovely Parisian fashion. In fact, the Emily in Paris cast members got a jump on that at Monday’s premiere, looking absolutely glamorous walking the red carpet in France. Ashley Park in particular was a show-stopper, pulling off a sultry high-fashion moment that was just perfect for the holidays.

Ashley Park was among those in Paris on December 15 to celebrate the premiere of Emily in Paris Season 5, which can be streamed with a Netflix subscription starting December 18. Between the red carpet, Netflix’s red backdrop and the actress’ floor-length gown, things were looking very merry indeed, as you can see below:

The silk corset dress is a Dolce & Gabbana design, featuring a strapless sweetheart neckline. The bodice hugged her frame, showing off a silhouette that screamed of Old Hollywood as the fabric fell to billow at her feet.

The standout feature of the gown, however, was the lacy sheer panels that ran along each side, showing just a touch of skin that added a hint of edginess to the elegant ensemble. Her red nails matched the holiday vibes perfectly, and even her hair was on theme, as Ashley Park showcased newly dyed locks of cherry cola. The side part allowed her long hair to fall in waves over her shoulders, adding to the classic Hollywood aesthetic.

Adding the perfect amount of sparkle to the look, the actress sported a gorgeous Chopard diamond necklace and teardrop earrings.

Overall, the ensemble reminds me of a recent Jenna Ortega look, as the Wednesday star paired a red gown with her own dark red curls at the Marrakech International Film Festival just last week. That’s definitely not bad company for Ashley Park to be in!

Ashley Park was joined at the premiere by several of her Emily in Paris co-stars, including (of course) Lily Collins, who plays the titular American expatriate. While Season 4 saw Emily take a job in Rome, as her boss Sylvie (Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu) looked to expand her marketing firm into Italy, Season 5 isn’t leaving France. Showrunner Darren Star said her adventures will continue in both Rome and Paris.

That means Ashley Park’s Mindy will still be around, naturally, assuming she returns to the City of Light following her stint on Chinese Superstar, where she was heading at the end of Season 4 to be a judge following her breakup with Nico (Paul Forman).

In a bit of life imitating art, Ashley Park and Paul Forman ended their real-life relationship in September after two years together. Forman was also at the premiere Monday at Le Grand Rex in Paris, and while no details of their split have been made public, I’m sure even he couldn’t help but notice Park’s amazing, Christmas-appropriate look.

Born to Be Wild follows six baby animals, and each episode follows a newborn born in captivity learning how to survive in the wild. It looks and sounds absolutely adorable, nd possibly more than a little heartbreaking too.

Next week it will be Christmas, and while you’ll likely be spending lots of time with family, streamers will certainly be hoping you spend a bit of time in front of the TV as well, as all the major platforms have something new to entice you over.

The 2024 Netflix schedule was filled to the brim with new releases, and one of those was Emily in Paris Season 4. In the new episodes, we got to see the continuation of Emily and her adventures in the City of Love, as well as new love triangles forming amidst old ones ending. But it seems Emily in Paris Season 5 might lose ⅓ of the current triangle – as Lucas Bravo, who plays Gabriel, has said he might not return for the next part of the story.

What Lucas Bravo Has Said About Potentially Leaving Emily In Paris

Bravo recently opened up to IndieWire about his time on the show. While at first he did love and see shades of himself in his Emily in Paris character, as time went on, he's grown distant because of the choices the character has made – relating it to Gabriel getting "slowly turned into guacamole" by the writers over four seasons:

Bravo continued to say that he has tried to add "nuances" to the character, but the actors don't have much "liberty" when they're working, and they have to do what is written down, further causing him to question whether he wants to continue the show:

I mean, it's not like I disagree. Emily in Paris is one of the best shows on Netflix to binge-watch, and it is primarily known for its rom-com atmosphere. Despite this, amidst everyone in the Emily in Paris cast, Gabriel has undoubtedly been a character who is more down in the dumps, particularly in Season 4.

The actor further stated he "loves" everyone on the show and the series itself, but he just doesn't know if he can stick around if this the direction his character is going:

The actor has really been doubling down on these types of comments lately. In fact, he also spoke in an interview with French newspaper Le Figaro (via New York Post) and said the series does not "stimulate" him anymore and that he doesn't want to be a "part of a cog" that doesn't take the intelligence of the people watching the show seriously. He also states that the way the show deals with love is very "archaic:"

Truthfully, I fully agree the character could use a refresh. Let's talk about what's going on with Gabriel in the show for those who need help remembering.

What's Going On With The Character Of Gabriel On The Show

As Lucas Bravo said, Gabriel is in a bit of a tight spot right now-- and I'm about to get into spoilers if you are not fully caught up! Emily is still drawn to Gabriel, and eventually, they do test out a relationship, but it falls apart when they try to make things work while Gabriel also attempts to take care of Camille, whom he believes to be pregnant.

However, during a holiday skip trip, Gabriel leaves Emily on a mountain while he chases after Camille. Emily realizes Gabriel will always take Camille's safety over hers because she is carrying his child, and decides to end things. This doesn't happen in the best way, considering he left her on a mountain as a fresh new skier.

At this point, we also know from the SPOILERY mid-season twist that Camille isn't pregnant and that it was a false positive, but things are already over, and everything is a mess.

Camille decides to move away and start a family on her own through adoption. Emily somehow winds up with another guy – Marcello, who actually helped her down the ski mountain – over in Rome while working there for her company for a bit – leaving Gabriel in Paris.

At the end of the Emily in Paris Season 4 finale, we see Gabriel is about to head off to Rome to go and fight for Emily. But after this, who really knows what's going to happen?

I have to say, when I was caught up with Emily in Paris Season 4, one of my biggest qualms was about Gabriel, so it makes sense the actor would feel the same way. Even so, I don't know how it would play out if Gabriel just suddenly vanishes after that cliffhanger. We'll see if Lucas Bravo returns or not when Season 5 comes around!

Alright…I need to rant.

I have been a steadfast supporter of Emily in Paris since Season 1. The fourth season was released as part of the 2024 TV premiere schedule, and of course I was eager to see the continuation. People love to hate this show, but honestly, this is one of my comfort series in a world where I regularly watch some dark shows for content, so yeah, I enjoy my little American in Paris fantasy.

And, of course, Emily in Paris Season 4 gave us some of the regular drama we would expect from the Emily in Paris cast, but you want to know what I finally hit my limit at? This freaking Gabriel-Emily-whoever love triangle is because I have a massive problem with it. So today, in honor of the show getting renewed for a fifth season, let’s talk about why this love triangle needs to end.

We Waited THREE Seasons For Them To Get Together, All For It To Fall Apart In, Like, Three Episodes

Emily and Gabriel have always danced around each other for several seasons, ever since the first episode of Emily in Paris. They’ve slept together a few times, but they were never officially together. However, in Season 4 of Emily in Paris, they eventually do become a couple. Lily Collins even said in an interview with CinemaBlend that Emily is drawn to Gabriel since he was one of the first people to be kind to her in Paris.

But this relationship lasted all of four episodes.

We waited three and a half seasons for these two to become a couple basically, and finally, when we got together, they fell apart. I mean, come on.

What was all that build-up? I would have been fine if they had broken up, maybe at the end of the season, but after just a few episodes? Where’s the fun in that? The drama? It all felt so climactic, only for it to end.

I Understand Gabriel’s POV With Camille – But What He Did On The Ski Mountain Is Still Awful

Look, the big twist with Camille in Season 4 Part 1 was a big deal, and I knew it would impact Part 2 in a significant way, but the fact that Emily and Gabriel broke up in the first place because Camille was still lying about being pregnant after finding out she wasn’t is so ungodly aggravating.

I understand that it wasn’t the right time, but Gabriel literally left Emily on a mountain in the middle of France, alone to try and get herself down to chase after a woman that he knew was an experienced skier, all because he believed she was pregnant with his child. Yes, I understand why he did it, but I don’t know. I don’t think anyone should leave their girlfriend unattended on a cold mountain when they have no idea how to get down.

I don’t know; maybe I’m being dramatic, but I was on Emily’s side for this one.

Plus, Marcello Is Absolutely Perfect For Emily

Okay, maybe I’m a little biased because I just got back from a two-week vacation to Italy, but Italian men are actually some of the kindest (and most passionate) men out there. They genuinely care about so much in their lives, as well as the people around them – I would know I’m dating one.

This is why I genuinely believe Marcello is perfect for Emily when he’s introduced in Part 2. He’s sweet, kind, and handsome and is introducing her to a whole new part of Europe, one that she could expand on and find a new home. Plus, he’s in the fashion industry, which is perfect for a woman who literally works in a marketing firm regarding high-end products that often include fashion.

I get such good vibes from Marcello. Honestly, I haven’t enjoyed a character in Emily in Paris this much since I started to really believe that Sylvie is the actual star of the show, but I want to see so much more with him.

I Really Hope Emily AND Gabriel Find People Better Suited For Them In Season 5

In the Emily in Paris Season 4 finale, we see that Emily has accepted a temporary position in Rome for her company and is happily dating Marcello. Meanwhile, Gabriel asks Mindy where Emily is in Rome, indicating that he’s going to go after her.

Stop, please.

I’m so tired. I’m tired of this back-and-forth and this “will they, won’t they” stuff that’s going on with these two every season. I know what you’ll say, “There are so many shows where they have a ‘will-they-won’t-they’ relationship! Why don’t you like this?”

Because there’s no won’t. With the Friends cast, there was Rachel and Ross, but they had full seasons in which they would date other people. Piper and Alex from Orange is the New Black also had full seasons where they weren’t around each other and didn’t show interest in the other. It’s possible to make these kinds of relationships work, but they are just hammering these love triangles into my brain.

Honestly, I hope that Gabriel and Emily find love – but not with each other, at least not for this upcoming season. I want her to be happy with Marcello. Heck, I’d like Gabriel to find someone else for a change besides her and Camille. And maybe, if it’s meant to be, they’ll come back to each other in the end. But for the love of god, let these two breathe.

I do still think Emily in Paris is one of the best shows to binge-watch on Netflix because it’s so fun and a series where you don’t really have to think so much, but there needs to be some changes. And here’s hoping that with Season 5 of the show, the love triangle will stop, at least for a bit.

Emily in…Roma? Nah, it’s Emily in Paris and she’s coming back for a fifth round because Season 5 is just around the corner! While Emily in Paris has faced its fair share of criticism for the French stereotypes or for its melodramatic plotlines, the show is still incredibly popular and has come back time and time again for new seasons. Now, Season 5 is on the way next month!

What Is The Emily In Paris Season 5 Premiere Date?

Emily in Paris Season 5 will be a part of the 2025 TV schedule. The season is set to drop on December 18, 2025, and, of course, you'll be able to watch with your Netflix subscription.

Emily in Paris is one of the best shows to binge-watch on Netflix because it's so easy to follow, but what's even better is that it's one of the few shows from the streamer that you can pretty much expect not to wait super long for. It's only been a little more than a year since Season 4 premiered on the streamer, which makes it a lot more consistent than some other streaming shows.

Netflix Tudum officially confirmed several cast members who will be back for Season 5. Here is who we will see from the Emily in Paris cast:

For a time, it felt like Lucas Bravo would not return because he had expressed his distaste with the direction of his character. However, Variety confirmed that the actor would be coming back for Season 5.

Also confirmed to have a bigger role in the fifth season is Lucien Laviscount’s Alfie, as reported by Deadline, where he will take on a series regular role.

But, you might be wondering – where is Camille Razat? Well, it’s been confirmed that she will not be returning to the show. She revealed the news in an Instagram post in April 2025, saying that it felt right for her character’s story to end and for her to explore other opportunities:

Several cast members commented on her post to wish her well, so there are no bridges burned here. We’ll miss you, Camille!

On the bright side, we also know there will be a new cast member. According to Tudum, Minnie Driver has joined the cast, and she will play Princess Jane, a friend of Sylvie’s who’s married into the royal family – because of course, we need royalty in this show, too.

With any Emily in Paris season, there are so many storylines that intersect with each other that it's almost hard to keep up. Based on information from interviews, though, here is what we can expect to see happen in Emily in Paris Season 5:

Season 5 Will Continue Emily's Adventures In Rome, But She's Not Leaving Paris

For those who still need to catch up with Season 4, Emily actually ends up taking a gig in Rome thanks to her boss, Sylvie, who wants to open up an office for their marketing firm in Italy.

However, Darren Star said in an interview with Deadline in September 2024 that just because Emily is in Rome now doesn't mean she is staying there, and she is still very much in the City of Love:

That does make me curious. Bravo spoke to Parade about the upcoming stories for Season 5, and he said that it might be the “best season” yet:

People just dropped a short video highlighting the season in Rome, and it looks like they are definitely going all in on Emily's new adventure. The video cites Italian fashion, old Italian movies. One thing is for sure, it will be the same Emily we all love. Blunt commented:

There may be a new location, but that doesn't mean everything will be perfect for Emily, though. According to Netflix:

Marcello Will Also Be A Big Part Of Season 5

For those who don't know, Emily also happened to find a new man in the second half of Season 4 – a cute Italian named Marcello whose family actually runs a luxury clothing line and is the sweetest. In that Tudum article, Star also said that Marcello and Emily's relationship will be explored in Season 5:

After the drama that was Gabriel and Emily in Season 4, Emily deserves this because Marcello seems so great. There will undoubtedly be some ups and downs, but the backdrop of Rome hopefully makes the gelato go down easily!

Another week is here and that means a new batch of content arriving on all the best streaming services. There can be so much new on Netflix that it can be difficult to find the best content. New content on Disney+ can actually be few and far between unless you also have a Hulu subscription so it can be difficult to know when it’s worth paying attention. Emily in Paris: Season 4, Part 2 - September 12 (Netflix)

Netflix, the studio that pioneered the binge-watching model has recently been trying a new release structure that involves releasing new seasons of popular shows in two halves. Emily in Paris is the most recent show to go through this, with the first part of Season 4 arriving to all with a Netflix subscription in mid-August. Part Two is finally coming this week for everybody who has been waiting.

LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy September 13 (Disney+)

LEGO isn’t just the source of endless hours of fun with plastic bricks, it’s also the home of some fantastic animated TV and film. LEGO and Star Wars have fit perfectly together since the first video games based on the concepts and a nearly endless series of animated projects have been released over the years. The latest entry, LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild The Galaxy sees the galaxy go haywire and get all mixed up after an ancient artifact gets accidentally used by a hapless hero who must now get everything built back correctly.

Tulsa King September 15 (Paramount+)

Sylvester Stallone took on his first leading role on a scripted series for Tulsa King and it appears that most people with a Paramont+ subscription watched it, because it was quickly given a Season 2. Fans have had to wait a while for new episodes, but the first episode of Tulsa King Season 2 finally arrives this week.

 The Money Game Sept 10 (Prime Video)

Billions of dollars are at stake in college sports, but it’s only been in the last few years that the athletes themselves have been able to take advantage of that The Money Game is a new documentary series that takes a look at some of the top college athletes, the financial success they achieved, and the difficulties that sometimes comes with all the money.

 Uglies September 13 (Netflix)

A decade ago it seemed that every YA dystopian novel series was being adapted into a film, but one, Scott Westerfeld’s Uglies, though the rights were purchased, was never made. Now Netflix is bringing the popular series about a world where everybody gets cosmetic surgery at 16 to be made “pretty” to life. Joey King produces and stars. If this one is a success there are three more books where Uglies came from.

Next week is going to be a big one for anybody with a Disney+ subscription as Agatha All Along debuts. That’s just the beginning of the exciting stuff coming to streaming in the coming weeks.

As one of the best shows to binge-watch on Netflix, Emily in Paris has plenty of drama and romance, and usually the drama has something to do with the romance. In Season 4, Part 1, we saw how Camille and Gabriel took a surprising turn, as the episodes ended in a twist that I personally didn't see coming. However, Lucas Bravo (Gabriel) and Darren Star (the creator of the series) had a different take on that Camille twist – one that makes me understand the characters a little more.

For those who don't remember, previously Camille told Gabriel she was pregnant with his child, which became a Season 3 Emily in Paris moment that made me want to pull my hair out. Now, in the finale for Season 4 Part 1, it was revealed that Camille was never actually pregnant, and instead of telling Gabriel immediately, she decided to keep it a secret. It's a surprising twist for the character.

Sure, Camille's never been the type to always tell the truth, but hiding that big of a reveal is, frankly, shocking. In fact, it could potentially ruin the friendship that's built between Camille and Gabriel over the years despite the two not being a couple anymore.

While I was still shaken up, I got to talk with Lucas Bravo about how Gabriel might feel about this situation and discovering this lie, and the actor openly admitted, "It's a lot." Still, he pointed out it's not like Gabriel is entirely innocent either, referencing when he lied to Emily back in Season 1:

For those who need a refresher, at the time Camille lied to Gabriel, he was throwing an impromptu party at his restaurant after he found out that Marianne wasn't actually a Michelin-star critic, releasing him from stress. At this point, Emily and Gabriel were together (as she continuously gets drawn back to Gabriel), and Sofia had left Camille.

Truthfully, I could see how it would be hard for Gabriel to digest the news even after all this celebrating, but Darren Star honestly admitted that it just "wasn't the moment" to tell everyone, saying it's not really a lie - more of a "delay" to reveal the truth:

Camille is one of those characters from the Emily in Paris cast who has been around since the first season and has had her fair share of ups and downs, often involving Gabriel. This particular twist is the one that shakes things up too much. But, from Star's perspective, I understand why she did what she did a little more now.

But here's hoping she comes clean when Part 2 drops because I'm not sure Gabriel could take that much more drama, even if they live in Paris. Good grief.

Emily in Paris is one of the best shows on Netflix to binge-watch, and a big reason as to why are the characters. Within the Emily in Paris cast, there are two people specifically that we all know and love - Gabriel and Emily - and their will they/won't they status as a couple has always been a topic of conversation. Now, with the duo being an especially big part of Season 4, Part 1, star Lily Collins shared her thoughts on why, in a sea of men in Paris, Emily always goes back to Gabriel.

Those who have watched Emily in Paris know that Emily wasn't with Gabriel last season. In fact, she dated Alfie (played by Lucien Laviscount). However, they broke things off in the first episode of Season 4. Despite this, Emily swears during "Masquerade" that she wants to find a new love interest – however, by the end of the episode, she goes home with Gabriel.

Prior to the first part coming out, I had the chance to speak with the actress behind the titular character, Lily Collins, regarding the couple and why Emily always goes back to Gabriel. She explained during our interview for CinemaBlend that Emily finds him "mysterious," but he was also the first person she really felt a "spark" with when she first arrived in France. That makes their relationship even more special, as she said:

That first spark feeling is a strong one, and I totally get why Emily would feel drawn to Gabriel. Being in a new city and meeting new people is hard, and those first relationships you make are vital and impactful.

Collins continued, saying that another reason why Emily decided to really be in a relationship with Gabriel is that her character isn't the type to just let things go. She would have "FOMO" (fear of missing out) if she didn't at least try to make things work with the chef:

Emily in Paris has certainly had its fair share of romances throughout its three complete seasons. I personally liked Alfie a lot more for Emily, because he was so charming and handsome – the actor even reportedly landed in the running for James Bond.

But, considering what Collins said, I genuinely understand Emily and Gabriel and their deep connection a lot more now. Honestly, I'm rooting for them – even after the craziness that was Emily in Paris Season 3, which made me want to pull my hair out.

So, here’s hoping these two somehow work it out in Season 4 amidst all the drama.

Paul (Paul Reiser) and Jamie Buchman (Helen Hunt) could very well be one of the best TV couples, as their relationship, like real-life couples, was full of ups, downs, and everything in between. That’s what made Mad About You so much fun to watch. You were going to get laughs, romance, and just about every other emotion in under 30 minutes.

How I Met Your Mother (2005 - 2014)

Though How I Met Your Mother had its share of characters that were repulsive human beings, this is honestly what gave the long-running sitcom a lot of its signature charm. Just about everyone in the How I Met Your Mother cast either broke someone’s heart, broke a promise, or broke themselves by the time it was said and done, and that’s okay!

Emily In Paris (2020 - Present)

Would Emily in Paris be as much fun to watch if there wasn’t an element of romance each season? Yeah, most likely. However, Emily Cooper's (Lily Collins) love affairs with hunks like Gabriel (Lucas Bravo) and Alfie (Lucien Laviscount) have added so much electricity to this outrageously bingeable Netflix series. They don’t call Paris the “City of Love” for no reason, after all.

Will & Grace (1998 - 2006; 2017 - 2020)

Will & Grace, a show with LGBTQ+ characters who made an impact, is also one of the funniest and most honest romantic comedies in the history of TV. Though Eric McCormack and Debra Messing’s titular characters’ relationship never went beyond friends, there was still plenty of romance throughout the show’s run (and its revival series) with talk of dating, marriage (and divorce), and other matters of the heart.

Catastrophe (2015 - 2019)

Catastrophe, an outstanding romantic comedy series created by Sharon Horgan and Rob Delaney (who star as Sharon and Rob Norris), takes audiences on a wild ride with two people who go from strangers to husband and wife with two kids after a one-night stand turns into a lifelong commitment. It’s brash, but it’s honest, especially when it comes to the impact children have on a relationship.

Sex And The City (1999 - 2004)

One of the shows that helped put HBO on the map, Sex and the City found the perfect balance of romance and friendship as well as comedy and drama with its focus on four New Yorkers trying to find their place in the world. With outstanding narration by Sarah Jessica Parker’s Carrie Bradshaw, each episode was like a new adventure where anything could happen (and it usually did).

Never Have I Ever (2020 - 2023)

No matter whether you were on Team Ben or Team Paxton, there’s a good chance you watched and loved Never Have I Ever. If not, now’s a good time to watch Mindy Kaling’s semi-autobiographical coming-of-age comedy about a high school student named Devi Vishwakumar (Maitreyi Ramakrishnan) as she tries to make sense of the world around her. Four seasons of teenage angst, awkwardness, drama, and revelations make this a show you just have to watch.

Issa Rae became one of the biggest and most powerful figures in TV thanks to her incredible HBO romantic comedy-drama series, Insecure. Careers, friendship, and plenty of romantic relationships fill up this show’s five seasons.

Lovesick (2014 - 2018)

A Netflix show that not enough people talk about, Lovesick spent three seasons diving into the relationship shared by Dylan Witter (Johnny Flynn) and Evie Douglas (Antonia Thomas) as they go from strangers to roommates to friends to lovers. It’s not all cheery, as the pair experience all kinds of obstacles throughout their journeys, both with their shared bond and outside relationships.

Love (2016 - 2018)

Co-created by Judd Apatow, Love spent three seasons traversing the increasingly complicated relationship between Mickey (Gillian Jacobs) and Gus (Paul Rust), two people who couldn’t be more different. Despite their differences, they try their hardest to make things work, even if it doesn’t make sense.

Is that "Logan Roy's Not Really Dead" Theory real after all? Last we saw the Succession patriarch (played by Brian Cox), he was very much not alive on one of his many private jets, during the awards-worthy "Connor’s Wedding" episode of the show's fourth and, sadly, final season. But now the fictional media mogul has seemingly resurrected to make a very unexpected cameo in an Emily in Paris-inspired commercial for the French TV festival Series Mania.

Along with fans being totally baffled by Cox showing up in this silly ad, it has inspired other crossover ideas between Succession and other popular series. And honestly, I'd love to see some of these. However, before we get into the crossovers, take a look at this wild ad for yourself:

In the "Emily in Lille" parody, real-life Emily in Paris star Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu —who plays ultra-chic chief-marketing boss Sylvie Grateau in the Netflix series — is joined by her plucky employee "Emily Cooper," though here it's not Lily Collins playing the role but Series Mania's director Laurence Herszberg. 

Together, they're trying to conceive a marketing plan for the festival, when "Emily" pitches a teaser "with international guests and celebrities." In the middle of their brainstorming, though, Sylvie gets a FaceTime call...from none other than Logan Roy himself. She is, understandably, confused:

However, after reassuring that he's "never felt better," Cox's Logan reveals that he's taking over Series Mania, before cackling like an evil cartoon character and leaving Sylvie and Co. scrambling to fix the marketing mess. 

Though the parody clip isn't an actual Emily in Paris video—though, per the credits, the festival received approval from both Netflix and series creator Darren Star—it's got Succession fans talking over on social media about the humorous and unlikely crossover between the two series. 

One Twitter user, @timmythick77, expressed their shock at the realization that "Succession and Emily in Paris are in the same universe:"

Another poster, @remyedenmaria, joked that they can't believe the iconic character of Logan Roy was "resurrected" for the comedic clip:

Yet another, @samiwittwer, hoped for more future onscreen interactions between Logan Roy and Sylvie Grateau:

And it got Succession fans thinking beyond the world of Savoir—what about seeing Alan Ruck's Connor Roy ranting about cold butter on The Bear, as @gottafanmyself suggests?

Other social-media users, like @cowbojs on Twitter, are all for seeing Succession's "human grease stain" Tom Wambsgans (Matthew Macfadyen) pop up in an episode or two of Sex and the City: 

While @superlax wants said crossover to eschew the small screen altogether and instead have the Waystar Royco crew do a full Succession takeover of the upcoming Knives Out 3 movie.

Here’s the thing – I’m one of the people who do honestly like Emily in Paris. 

Yes, I know that it deserves rightful criticism and its main character (played by Lily Collins) is flatter than a piece of cardboard, but there are other reasons I’ve started to like the Darren Star show, and it’s only become a bigger reason over the last three seasons – Sylvie, played by Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu. 

I don’t know how it happened, but this character casted a spell on me in the first season. The Emily in Paris cast is great, but Sylvie was always the person I looked forward to seeing the most with every new season. And as far as I’m concerned, she’s the main character of Emily in Paris. And today, I’m going to get into my reasons as to why I think that. 

Say It With Me – Independent Business Mogul

I mean, we love an independent queen. 

On a real note, Sylvie is exactly what I would love to be if I was to get into making my own business. While working at Savoir, she runs it with an iron fist because she knows she’s the one in charge, but she is also open to taking people’s ideas and expanding on new ones for the sake of growing the company.

And at the end of Season 2, she realizes that she doesn’t even want to work for Savoir anymore because of everything that Emily’s boss had been putting her through. So she straight up leaves during fashion week, one of the most important parts of their whole career, with Luc and Julian, because she respects herself more than she respects this company. 

When I tell you I screamed. It felt like Miranda Priestly from The Devil Wears Prada in the way she handled everything. From then on, I knew I was a fan of hers. 

Sylvie Knows Exactly What She Wants – And Goes After It

I’m not even talking about in a professional manner – she just knows what the heck she wants and she will not stop until she gets it. 

Sylvie reminds me of everything most young workers want to be in these types of shows – a go-getter, aggressive, and sassy all at the same time. She knows exactly what she wants for not only her company, but her personal life. And if no one is willing to give it to her, she goes out and gets it herself. I mean, just hearing her backstory, of how she came to Paris on her own in order to be successful – that is something I never could have done. 

I mean, I’m also not super independent – I always have people around me, but I have so much respect for her for literally putting herself out there and taking chances when she was younger, and now with her growing up, she knows exactly how to get what she wants. 

She’s Always Willing To Call People Out On Their Crap

This has to be one of my favorite parts about Sylvie overall – she isn’t afraid to call you out on your crap. Whatsoever. 

There’s just something I love about the blunt character in any show, whether it be anime, a cartoon, or it be a live-action one like this. Sometimes, people just need to be humbled, and Sylvie is always the answer to that. I can’t tell you how much I was rooting for her when she first met Emily. I know that Emily was sort of culture shocked into the world of France, but hearing Sylvie grind into Emily so often was so satisfying. 

I can still remember when she first met Emily and how displeased she was to work with her because it would be a pain to put up with a girl that didn’t know how to speak French and worked a completely different way than she did. Some people might have seen that as pushy but I did not. I saw that as someone who knew exactly what works at her company, and how she spotted a possible threat to that. 

I love an honest character. And sometimes, Emily really does need that blunt honesty. 

And She’s Also Willing To Push People To Do Better

However, Sylvie isn’t just a hardworking woman with a layer of steel – she’s also kind when she feels people deserve it. She gives so many chances to people throughout the show that completely reveals who she is as a person – that underneath it all, she has a heart and wants people to grow. 

The beginning of Season 3 is the best example. Sylvie, who was adamant about not working with Emily at the beginning of the show, ends up offering Emily a position at her new marketing firm, because she can see the potential now that Emily has after working with her. That is something we never would have seen from Sylvie in the first season, and shows just how much she has changed over the course of the series. 

The fact that Emily was having trouble trying to figure out who to work for was one of the moments that made me want to pull my hair out in Season 3 – because how can you not choose Sylvie?

Sylvie Has A Lot More Complicated Layers Than We Ever Expected

Move over the annoying love triangles and petty job rivalries, because Sylvie’s story is honestly better than Emily’s in Emily in Paris. While Emily was faced with the impossible task of deciding who was the hotter man to date (and let’s be honest, it’s Alfie), Sylvie was off having her own show totally separate from Emily. 

We saw her have a heavy confrontation with a former coworker of hers, subtly revealing that there is some serious tension between the two of them because of misconduct that occurred. We see her trying to actually fix her relationship with her husband in Season 3 instead of going out there and sleeping with someone else. We see the insecurities that she feels when certain clients of hers end up going elsewhere, such as Pierre Cadault. 

There is so much more to Sylvie than we really ever imagined and that makes her an even better character, because we get to see this darker, more vulnerable side of her. It makes her more human and honestly, a better character than anyone else. Her story was a heck of a lot more compelling than anyone else’s. 

Emily in Paris Season 4 is happening, but I hope that Sylvie is going to be a bigger part, even more than she already is, because if I have to deal with Emily speaking bad French for another season, I am going to literally break my television. When will we get the Sylvie spinoff we deserve?

We know her, we (sorta) like her… it’s time to talk about Emily – specifically Emily in Paris Season 4

For three seasons, this Netflix show created by Darren Star has premiered with a new story about an American who traveled to Paris for her job and found fulfillment in the City of Light. While the show itself has drawn criticism and had plenty of moments that don’t make sense, it’s continued, displaying the wonderful world of Paris and all it has to offer – and now, it’s going to be back for Season 4. Here is what you need to know for the new season.

What Is The Emily In Paris Season 4 Premiere Date?

At the time of updating this in July 2024, Emily in Paris Season 4 will premiere in two parts, according to Netflix Tudum. The first part will release on August 15, 2024, with the first five episodes, and then the second will release on September 12, 2024, with the last five episodes. The news was also confirmed in an announcement video from Netflix, with the cast calling the new season “chaotic,” “amour,” “heartbreaking” and more. See below:

Thankfully, we can finally add this to our 2024 TV schedule. Since its premiere, and with the exception of 2023, a new season of the show has come out yearly, with both Season 2 and Season 3 premiering right before Christmas. And now the fourth season will be coming out this year. Netflix is also doing the same thing they’ve done for other high-profile releases such as Stranger Things, You, Bridgerton and more, releasing in parts. 

Which is a little aggravating but I can deal. 

The Emily in Paris Cast Will Be Back

One of the things I do love about the show is that the Emily in Paris cast is super talented, and has featured some awesome stars and guest stars to really showcase all they can do. And now, thanks to Tudum, we know who will be back. This includes:

What Season 4 Of Emily in Paris Will Be About

Were you a fan of all the relationship drama that felt like it was right out of a teen romance show in Season 3 of Emily in Paris? Because get ready, from the sound of it, Season 4 is about to have a whole lot more of it – and with even more complex relationships then we ever thought possible. 

In an interview with TV Guide, Star talked about what Season 4 is going to be about, and that the main focus is the centering of their relationships, whether that be romantic, professional, or otherwise, and how complicated it can be: 

The Tudum article above also commented on the story for the upcoming season, saying it’ll follow Emily and Gabriel trying to work together despite their (obvious) chemistry, when Gabriel is “on the verge” of becoming a dad and Alfie isn’t all that trusting of Emily right now after her secret came out. 

Meanwhile, Sylvie is dealing with an issue with work and Mindy is trying to raise funds for her band as they prepare for Eurovision, but let’s be honest – we’re all here for the messy relationships, aren’t we? Bring it on. 

Darren Star Says He Doesn’t Know If Alfie And Emily Can “Recover” From The Season 3 Finale

For those who don’t remember, one of the key points in Season 3 was that Emily was having trouble dealing with her suppressed emotions for Gabriel, and keeping her new relationship with Alfie stable. This came to a screeching halt in the finale when Camille openly said she knows Gabriel is in love with Emily, and Alfie just can’t stand the thought of being someone’s second choice. 

While I do love Alfie (I mean, who wouldn’t? The actor himself has been in the James Bond conversation), the drama's creator, Darren Star, said that he doesn't know if Emily and Alfie can recover from that, because Alfie made quick assumptions that Emily would want to be with Gabriel, according to an interview that he did with TV Guide from before: 

If we’re being honest, this would lowkey make me even more upset because Emily struggling to be with Alfie made me want to pull my hair out. If Star's correct, I hope Alfie finds someone who understands his worth. 

Star also said in an interview with Deadline in December 2022 that Alfie will most likely still “be around,” but romance is probably off the table with Emily for a bit:

Since Alfie is confirmed to come back for Season 4, we do know that the actor will be there – but if Emily and him will still be together, we’re still not sure. We just know that there will be plenty of drama. 

We Might Not See That Cliffhanger Baby In Season 4

One of the big cliffhangers of Season 3 was that at the very end, Camille is revealed to be pregnant, something that throws a major wrench into plans. But Star was also quick to say in an interview with Entertainment Tonight that while the baby will most likely play a part in the next season, the chances of actually seeing it are very slim: 

This isn’t that surprising, as Emily’s boss just had her baby in the show’s timeline, so seeing Camille's child would mean a time-jump, which this series doesn’t seem to do. But, there's a first time for everything. 

Filming Took Place In Both France And Italy

While filming for Emily in Paris was a little shaky at first thanks to the strikes that were happening last year, filming did conclude in 2024, thanks to an Instagram post that Collins put up in early June: 

We also know from Variety in April 2024 that the team for Emily in Paris also filmed parts in Italy – specifically Rome, which lines up with a first look Tudum released last year that said that Emily would be on a “Roman Holiday.” Are we going to also have Emily in Italy too? Oh, the pizza and pasta will be endless. 

Either way, filming is done, and while there’s no official trailer out yet, I’m eager to see the drama behind this season – and know I’ll be tuned in from the very beginning. 

I know we’re all eager to find out what the next chapter of Emily’s fabulous adventures in Paris will be like. For now, we must be patient – and watch plenty of other shows just like it to pass the time.  

Ah, Emily in Paris. A show by Darren Star that has become quite beloved on the popular streaming platform, Netflix. And while the show has faced criticism for its portrayal of the French, it still managed to have several million people watch it every season – me being one of them - for its drama and French atmosphere. 

But man, Season 3 might have been my breaking point. 

I watched Season 1 and really enjoyed it, despite its flaws. I watched Season 2 and thought, “Well, the story itself isn’t as strong, but I like the love triangle aspect a little bit. And Alfie is cool.” Then Season 3 came along and I’m pretty sure there were more moments in this season that made me want to pull my hair out than any other. 

Emily in Paris Season 3 will remain infamous in my mind, and here are my reasons why, because these instances made me want to just close my Netflix page all together. 

How Emily Was Actually Struggling To Decide Where To Work

Like seriously. Why was this dragged out for so damn long? 

When Emily in Paris Season 3 was announced, one of the leading problems that was a big draw for people to return to the show was the fact that Emily had to choose between returning home to Chicago with her boss or leaving the company all together and joining Sylvie at her firm. 

This should not have been as big of an issue as it was. For two whole seasons, we saw how much Emily (played by Lily Collins) loved Paris. She loved the fashion, the food, the atmosphere, and eventually, she made genuine friends there and connections with people she didn’t expect. Hell, she even had a boyfriend in Europe at the end of Season 2 – who was most certainly not Gabriel, thank God. 

So, why on Earth would she want to return to Chicago when she’s given this golden opportunity that she never would have been given when she first started to work there? I can’t fathom her wanting to go back and be with her boss when she saw how she treated Sylvie. It just didn’t feel right to me at all. 

That Camille Ends Up Having An Affair

First off, I love the Emily in Paris cast and think they all do an amazing job, but one person I love especially has always been Camille, because she’s not only fashionable as heck, but knows what she wants. And in Season 2, there was literally a whole plot-point about how she wanted to never be with Gabriel again and instead made a pact with Emily that neither would be with him. 

But in Season 3, she not only breaks that pact by being with Gabriel, but has an affair with Sofia, a Greek artist. This affair continues for some time, and eventually, Camille supposedly breaks it off with Sofia when Gabriel proposes to her – but she still doesn’t tell Gabriel about what happened. Only Emily knows and she’s finding it hard not to tell him. 

It just aggravates me how Camille, who was so angry at Gabriel and Emily sleeping together at the end of Season 1, ends up in an affair. It feels like backwards character development to me.

That Benoît Didn’t Freaking Tell Mindy The Truth About The Song He Wrote

The love plot line between Mindy, Benoît, and Nicolas was honestly something that I didn’t care about at all during Season 3 of Emily in Paris because it just didn’t do it for me. I’m not a big fan of pushing drama onto couples that, for the most part, have remained drama-less, just by introducing a former friend or flame, or whatever. 

But I have to talk about this – why didn’t Benoît just come clean about the reason why he didn’t want to sell his song to Nicolas and his company? That he wanted to submit it to Eurovision?

If he had told Mindy the truth, I doubt they would have broken up, and we never would have gone on this ridiculous adventure with Nicolas and the slight tension between Emily and Mindy. I get that he wanted it to be a surprise, but come on. It’s just such a waste of time. 

That Alfie Was Emily’s Second Choice 

Girl. Have you seen Alfie? 

I understand that everyone has preferences, but there were so many reasons why Alfie should have been the clear winner between him and Gabriel. I mean, Gabriel is literally taken by Camille, so there’s that. Emily made a pact not to be with Gabriel (even if Camille broke that pact). But the bigger issue is that Gabriel actively chooses Camille. Every time. 

I feel like he’d only choose Emily if Camille was completely out of the picture. But she’s not. And that’s the issue here – which is why I can’t get over how Emily doesn’t just want Alfie as her own. 

Not only is the man good-looking as heck (c’mon, the actor is considered for the role of James Bond), he’s smart, witty, and British. Okay, maybe the latter item was a little bit more of my own preference, but come on. Come on. This is a sin. Move on, Emily!

That Luc Just Happened To Know Someone Who Was A Michelin Star Judge

For those who don’t know me, I’m a huge foodie. I love watching cooking shows, I’m a big fan of Gordon Ramsay, and I watched The Menu with the love of horror and food in my heart. I love learning about food, and the industry behind it, including the process of getting a Michelin Star. 

I find it hilarious that Luc happened to be the ex of a Michelin Star judge, just so casually. However, what frustrates me the most is that Luc is so blunt with Gabriel, saying, “Oh, you’re heading for a Michelin star fast” or something like that. Michelin Stars just don’t happen overnight. They sometimes take years. I mean, even Ramsay himself didn’t receive one until after a year of working as head chef at a London restaurant called Aubergine. 

The fact that Emily in Paris shows this as being so easy sickens me, to be honest. It's almost an insult to the profession. Gabriel is still so young. It’s rare for someone that young who runs a restaurant to earn a Michelin Star. 

That Cliffhanger Made Me Roll My Eyes So Hard

Ugh. Just ugh. 

Why? Why this trope? Why this of all things to run with? 

Of course, of course, they have to keep pushing this love triangle into Season 4, as if it’s not already dead in the water at this point. But to add onto that, Camille is pregnant now! How great. 

It’s just so lazy. So lazy. The finales have only gotten less and less interesting. The first one with Gabriel and Emily was at least entertaining, but then the job cliffhanger came around and now I’m just feeling like I’m watching my mother’s daytime soap operas. 

Not that there’s anything wrong with those shows, but they do sometimes have these cliché ending tropes of someone getting pregnant just to continue a storyline (and I know, as I've watched them with my mother) and I’m kind of over it. Let Camille live her life. Let Gabriel do him. Let Emily find literally anyone else. I’m so tired of this back and forth. 

Emily in Paris is coming back for Season 4, and I can only wonder what fresh heck I’m going to go through when it debuts. Until then, I’ll be taking biotin pills to grow my hair back, thanks.  

Long before we watched Daniel Craig’s James Bond run come to a fiery end in 2021’s No Time to Die, speculation was rampant about who would succeed him as the suave spy. While that question continues to officially remain unanswered, supposed candidates to take over as Bond are frequently brought to the table, with one of the more recent examples being Bullet Train and Kraven the Hunter star Aaron Tayor-Johnson. Now an actor from the hit Netflix show Emily in Paris has reportedly landed in the running to be the next James Bond.

Nearly two weeks after Emily in Paris Season 3 premiered to Netflix subscribers, Lucien Laviscount, who plays Alfie, the boyfriend to Lily Collins’ title character, in the show, is said to have “caught the eye” of producer Barbara Broccoli, who controls the James Bond franchise with her half-brother Michael G. Wilson. According to The Daily Mail, Broccoli and other producers are “keen to have an ethnic-minority star to play 007 so the franchise is reflective of modern society.” Conversely, some executives are allegedly “fearful” that Laviscount’s appearance on Celebrity Big Brother back in 2011 could damage his chances of being cast as Bond because the previous actors cast as the character “have been more highbrow.”

Given how often James Bond candidates come out of the woodwork, one should take Lucien Laviscount’s chances of being as one of cinema’s most popular characters with a grain of salt for now, assuming he is indeed being looked at for the role. That having been said, because it was rumored in August that someone in their 30s will be cast as the next James Bond, Lucien Laviscount fits this bill perfectly at exactly 30 years old as of this writing. Plus, there’s no denying that the actor would look amazing wearing a tuxedo, a Bond fashion staple.

Along with his time on Emily in Paris, where he started out as a recurring player in Season 2 and was upgraded to main cast member the following season, Lucien Laviscount’s other notable credits include Coronation Street, Scream Queens, Snatch, Kathy Keene and Your Christmas or Mine?. Given how Emily in Paris continues to perform well on Netflix, even if Laviscount doesn’t end up being cast as James Bond, one would imagine it’s only a matter of time until he’s scooped up for a role in a different franchise, whether it be in a leading or supporting capacity.

Barbiecore has been a big look over the past year as Greta Gerwig’s Barbie movie has ramped up and celebrities like Florence Pugh have rocked the newly popular pink hue. Of course, Megan Fox is not one to ignore a hot trend, and went full Barbiecore for a recent event with Machine Gun Kelly. Her timing is impeccable, as December was a great month to stand out in the color. 

First and foremost, this month Megan Fox attended the Audacy Beach Festival in Fort Lauderdale. It wasn’t exactly the most formal of occasions, so The Expendables 4 star attended in a pink furry hat and underboob-baring top. I think she managed to make "fetch" happen for once. Take a look. 

December has been a great month for Barbiecore on the red carpet. Emily in Paris star Lucien Laviscount rocked the color for the New York premiere of the Netflix show’s third season this month. In addition, Only Murders in the Building star Selena Gomez rocked the style trend when she attended an SNL party earlier during the holiday month. 

Why December 2022 Was The Perfect Month To Rock The Barbicore Look

This isn’t the first time Megan Fox has been of the moment with fashion. She was one of the first to rock the naked dress and has also tried out pants-free looks (when that was trendy) and more for events in the past. This isn’t even the first time Fox has tried out Barbicore, either, as she also opted to try out the style –with pink hair to boot – when she and Machine Gun Kelly were celebrating the release of the Hulu documentary Life in Pink. 

The theme was on trend then and it was on trend again this month as Barbie released its first full trailer. While the Barbie movie didn’t wholly originate the Barbicore trend (you may be able to thank the infamous sheer Valentino dress for that), it certainly has been an inspiration for all the pink, pink, pink we’ve seen in recent months.  And December finally marked the release of the full-length trailer Barbie sometime after we’d gotten some first looks at the cast, including that viral image of Ryan Gosling as Ken.

The first trailer dropped in December right around the same time some of these celebrity icons rocked their pink looks. The timing of those had nothing to do with the trailer release, but given the hype over the movie and the celebrities touting the looks, I think we can all agree December was peak Barbicore. Seriously,  I know green and red –and blue and white if you celebrate Hanukkah – are the traditional holiday colors, but I’m certainly expecting to see a lot more pink as we head into the New Year. Who’s with me?

Meanwhile, given the movie is not actually out until July of 2023, I do anticipate this to be a trend that will stick for a while. We'll have to wait and see if this prediction pans out, but there are plenty of red carpets coming up, and you can learn about some of the most hotly anticipated with a full look at the 2023 new movie release schedule. 

It’s become a time-honored tradition for Emily in Paris fans to point our stuff that doesn’t make sense about the Netflix series. Now that Season 3 has dropped, there has been no exception. One major plot point that doesn’t really seem to add up is that Emily’s boss Madeline has been pregnant for three seasons. Let’s talk this out. 

We’re about to get into spoiler territory, so if you aren’t fully caught up on Emily in Paris yet, you have been forewarned. 

Fans Have Some Questions About The Timeline Of Madeline's Pregnancy

If you can recall all the way back to Season 1, Emily was sent to Paris only after her boss Madeline could not make the trip. At the time her boss (Kate Walsh) found out she was pregnant thanks to an encounter with some perfume. Emily goes to the City of Lights instead to work with Savoir, a French marketing company her U.S.-based company has just acquired. This in itself is a bit of a plot hole, as Emily only goes to France because Madeline backs out; however, then Madeline ultimately comes to France while still pregnant.

But I digress. Back to the timeline issue. Madeline popped up early-ish in her pregnancy in Season 1, and by Season 2 is heavily pregnant. Then in Season 3, she’s still pregnant. Season 3 has her coming to France – still fully pregnant – where she has the baby. 

Theoretically, this should be no big deal. Let’s say Madeline found out she was pregnant, couldn’t travel in Season 1 and then if Season 2 picked up sometime shortly after the events in Season 1, and Season 3 picked up shortly after the events in Season 2, the timeline of her lengthy pregnancy could have made sense. If only. Unfortunately, there is some seasonal stuff that just does not seemingly check out and Netflix subscribers are noticing.

The weather is the issue. More time seems to have passed on the series than would make sense for a nine-month pregnancy. Season 1 has Emily in France in the late summer/fall, but then it gets really hot in Season 2, so there’s a presumption those episodes are set in the summertime. If Season 2 had been set, say, six months later, as the tweet above hedges, the episodes would have been shot with a wintry setting. Apparently, it’s always summertime in Paris.

Part of the issue here may be that Emily in Paris was set to film in the first part of 2019, but then filming didn’t get off of the ground until August of 2019, so perhaps the planned stories ended up having to be shifted a bit from their earliest iterations. Season 2 did, in fact, film during the summer of 2021 while filming for Season 3 began this past June. 

In real time, Madeline’s been “pregnant” for more than three years.

The Joke Emily In Paris Makes About Madeline’s Pregnancy 

So, back to the fact that Madeline shows up in France at the end of Season 2. She does this because it’s “now or never,” which makes no sense because she literally avoided taking the job in France thanks to her pregnancy. Maybe she’s just really attached to her obstetrician, but if that's the case, the birth did not go as planned. By Season 3, she is finally close to having the baby.

Fans got a bit of a payday when the latest season finally hit the Netflix schedule. Madeline’s water finally breaks at the Eiffel Tower restaurant. (Her water breaks on Sylvie’s shoes, naturally.)  She’s rushed to the hospital and has a baby boy. The nurses at the hospital joke it’s the “biggest baby” they’ve delivered in quite some time. Of course it is. She’s been pregnant for years, y’all. 

The good news is that Kate Walsh has had a sense of humor about wearing the baby bump for so long as part of the Emily in Paris cast. She told Netflix earlier this year the look lends itself to physical comedy, which she enjoys very much. She shared with Tudum,

So, in a sense it will be a little bit sad to see Madeline without her large baby bump. But who knows? Emily in Paris has already been renewed for Season 4, so there's always the chance the show could just lean right in and Madeline could get pregnant again. 

Though linear TV may always have its place in the world, streaming entertainment is the new normal, and will likely maintain that reign for the foreseeable future. But for all the advantages of having so many movies and TV shows at arm’s length, the potential downside is an overwhelming amount of content to sort through to find what’s most worthy of your time; Netflix’s new releases alone can be an intimidating batch to sort through. Lily Collins’ romantic dramedy Emily in Paris has been a big enough hit for Netflix that the platform had previously granted it a two-season renewal, making it the somewhat rare show to debut new episodes without panicked worries about abrupt cancellations. (Not that Netflix hasn’t reversed renewals in the past.) So far, the fun and flighty Darren Star creation is earning the predestined renewal, having ousted Wednesday’s streak atop the service’s Top 10 TV Shows ranking.

For weeks we’ve been talking about Wednesday Addams, her viral dance moves, iconic gothic fashion, and her very own Netflix series Wednesday. The show dominated Netflix’s top ten series for quite a while, but now it’s been dethroned from the top positions by two entries on the 2022 TV schedule. One is Noah Centineo’s latest show The Recruit, and the other is Season 3 of Lily Collins’ fashionable dramedy Emily in Paris. 

According to CinemaBlend’s record of Netflix’s trending shows Wednesday’s final day at No. 1 was December 15. It was then overtaken by the second part of Harry & Meghan, however, it held strong at No. 2. Then on December 17, The Recruit came flying up the charts to No. 3, and took the No. 1 spot on December 18, where it stayed until Season 3 of Emily in Paris dropped. Today, December 22, Wednesday fell to its lowest slot in weeks, No. 3, and Emily in Paris took the first slot, with The Recruit at No. 2. 

While it’s a bit of a bummer to see the Addams Family spin-off fall, this happens to every show, even Netflix’s most popular series like Stranger Things, Bridgerton and Squid Game. However, the Top Ten gives us all a chance to see what everyone else is into on Netflix. This is so when we finish the latest greatest show, we can move on to another hit as we wait for new seasons of our favorites, like a possible Season 2 of Wednesday. 

So, with all that being said, here’s what you should know about the two shows that overtook the longtime No. 1 Wednesday and caused it to drop, for the first time, down to No. 3. 

Noah Centineo’s CIA Thriller The Recruit 

In The Recruit Noah Centineo makes his return to Netflix as a rookie CIA lawyer who gets dragged into the world of international espionage. The action-packed show puts Centineo, a once Netflix heartthrob, in a new genre, unlike anything he’s ever done before. Turning him from one of the boys you loved before into a lawyer trying to stop an international crisis. 

The show has been welcomed by Netflix subscribers, who have shared all their thoughts about The Recruit as well as how much they like Centineo in this genre. It's safe to say The Recruit is a hit, and people are very happy to have the To All the Boys I Loved Before alum back on the streamer.

Lily Collins Returns For Season 3 Of Emily In Paris  

As for Emily in Paris, the fan-favorite show returned to Netflix on December 21, and it immediately went to the top of the trending charts. In this third season of the Paris-based show, Lily Collins’ title character is faced with lots of choices in love, life and work. 

Collins has spoken about how she hopes people see the show as a form of “escapism” while talking about her hopes for Season 3. Well, now fans of the fashionable series can escape the cold winter world we currently live in, and travel to the colorful and bubbly world of Emily’s Paris. 

With all that being said, whether you are a Wednesday watcher, a fan of Noah Centineo, or are looking to travel back to Paris with Emily, you can watch all three of these series with a Netflix subscription. 

Season 3 of Emily In Paris is almost here, as it's one of the many shows that'll be streaming on Netflix for December 2022. Darren Star's romantic dramedy series has amassed a nice following over the past years, so one can understand the hype. However, there is one aspect of the series that fans have been seeking clarification on. Sure, there are more than a few elements in Emily In Paris that don't make sense, but perhaps the biggest is how Emily is able to afford all of those stylish clothes. Well, series star Lily Collins finally weighed in on the lingering mystery.

While at the premiere for the third season, Lily Collins spoke to Women's Wear Daily and shared her thoughts on how her character is able to afford a wide wardrobe with a variety of clothes. The explanation she provides is relatively simple and reasonable:

A theoretical rental scenario would make for an interesting storyline, but it would definitely have to flow with the series. However, the character's wide range of clothing is part of what makes the show fun, so prepares some may actually prefer the show keep up that suspension of belief.

As fans continue to wonder about Emily’s wardrobe, they'll also want to prepare themselves for the new looks she'll have this year. Lily Collins says that after three seasons, Emily will adopt more French style sensibilities, as she finds more inspiration in her life, from her friends to her colleagues. Of course, she'll still be the same Emily we all know and love, though Collins mentioned that there's a greater sense of "sophistication" to her attire in the new episodes.

Lily Collins has been open before about Emily's "annoying" qualities, though she does find her quirks endearing for the most part. But with any show, there needs to be character growth. So it’s not surprising that she’s truly starting to evolve.It's exciting whenever one has the chance to see a character grow over time. One would think that Darren Star and his team want the titular protagonist to become more in tune with the culture of the country should the series continue. And they'll hopefully, proceed with a level of respect, as the show has received some criticism for how the show portrays the French. 

All of that aside though, it'll be exciting to see what lies ahead in Season 3. I personally can't wait to see just surprises are in store. Based on Lily Collins' quotes, chances are we won't get a firm answer regarding the source of Emily's seemingly endless wardrobe during this new season. We'll just have to see if the writers choose to address it at some point in the future.

Emily in Paris, from the first time it appeared on our television screens on Netflix, has been a pretty big deal. While the show has received some criticism in the past for its portrayal of French people, there’s no denying that it’s popular, as it’s gotten plenty of people watching both seasons. And now, Emily in Paris Season 3 is right around the corner. 

But for those who might be wondering when it’s coming out, or who is going to be coming back for this Darren Star show, then we have some quick things right here for you to see. Check it out down below. 

Emily In Paris Season 3 Will Release On Dec. 21, 2022

If you want to add Emily in Paris onto your 2022 TV premiere schedule, you’re in luck! Announced at 2022’s Tudum, a Netflix fan event, it was confirmed that Emily in Paris Season 3 would be premiering on December 21, 2022. 

This does line up with the show’s second season release, as the last season came out right before Christmas, so it seems the people of the show are sticking with that. 

Most Of The Main Cast Is Set To Come Back

If you were thinking that some of the main cast was going to be leaving, you would be wrong. Also confirmed at Tudum, we can see that several of the main cast members are going to return. Obviously, we can’t have Emily in Paris Season 3 without star Lily Collins, and she is set to return. 

The main Emily in Paris cast is all but confirmed to return based on the teaser that was revealed at Tudum. This video features Collins, Alfie (Lucien Laviscount), Gabriel (Lucas Bravo), Sylvie (Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu), Madeline (Kate Walsh), and Mindy (Ashley Park). 

But wait, I know what you’re thinking – “That’s not the whole cast! Where are Camille and Luc and all these other big characters?” I have another source for you. Reported by Deadline, they were given some first-look photos that feature the whole cast for Season 3, and they feature several other stars, including Camille Razat, Samuel Arnold, Bruno Gouery, and William Abadie. 

Granted, I don’t know how long Madeline is going to be around considering at the end of Season 2, she had a baby, but she’s still in the cast. 

Lucien Laviscount Has Been Upgraded To A Series Regular

If you thought the drama between Emily choosing between Alfie and Gabriel was already intense, get ready for Season 3, because according to TV Line, Lucien Laviscount, who plays Alfie, has been upgraded to a series regular. 

You know what that could mean – tons more drama must be coming our way. And I am going to eat it up completely. I guess until then I’ll have to watch other shows like Emily in Paris to feed my drama-ness.

Emily Is Going To Have To Face Some Hard Decisions In Season 3

If you remember the end of Season 2 of Emily in Paris, Emily is faced with a hard decision. While we already went over the facts of her having to choose between Gabriel and Alfie, two totally different boys, she also has a big career change ahead of her. She could stick it out with Madeline, the person who sent her to Paris in the first place and get a big promotion, or follow Sylvie at her new company, and continue to work in Paris. 

While the Tudum event was quick to sort of make light of the idea of Emily having such a big decision ahead of her – with the main joke being that she gave herself bangs in Paris as her version of “making a big decision” – it’s still clear that she has to pick a path she wants to go down – and who she wants to go down it with. 

According to the logline from Netflix featured on Deadline, the main premise for Season 3 is that she is going to have these big choices, and the outcome will affect whether she stays in France or not, all while experiencing the “twists and turns” that her life in Paris “provides.”

Camille And Emily Seem To Be Civil With Each Other

Another big thing that happened in Season 2 of Emily in Paris is that yes, Gabriel’s long-time girlfriend, Camille, found out about Emily and him and their night together.

It was a huge plot point of Season 2 and one that drove several characters in different directions, from Gabriel confronting Camille at her job and doing something very icky with wine for “liquid courage” to apologize, to fights and screaming matches happening. It was a momentous plot that became a big mess. 

But in Season 3, it almost looks as if Emily and Camille are civil with each other, at least. 

In the first look photos that are linked out to above from Deadline, we see that Emily, Mindy and Camille are all out together, and Camille seems to be all smiles at Emily. I’m not entirely sure if this means that the girls have made up after everything that’s happened. Maybe there’s more going on behind the scenes that we don’t know just yet. But for now, it seems that they’ve made up. 

Who can really tell, though? Season 3 will hopefully answer all of our questions soon enough. 

The Series Has Already Been Renewed For Season 4

Season 3 isn’t even here yet, and Season 4 is already on the way. When Season 3 was renewed, it was confirmed that Season 4 would be coming as well, according to Deadline.

To be honest, reading about that makes me wonder if this groundbreaking “decision” that Emily has to make in Season 3 really isn’t going to be that intense since we already know a Season 4 is set and you can’t have Emily in Paris without her being in Paris, but I’m sure this show will find some way to surprise me. 

There have been plenty of things that don’t make sense with the Netflix series – maybe her moving back to Chicago and still being called Emily in Paris would be the next thing to add to that list. 

Even so, Season 4 is a go, and whatever Emily does pick, I’m sure it’s going to have just as much drama. 

Season 3 is coming soon and we’re all just waiting in anticipation. How much more drama is Emily in Paris going to cause? And will we ever get to hear Emily speak fluent French? Only time will tell.

Season 2 of Emily in Paris left us with a Team Gabriel or Team Alfie division, as Emily Cooper saw her carefully crafted pact with Camille go awry, when her friend (frenemy?) took her ex-boyfriend back. There’s still chemistry between Emily and Gabriel and much pining on her part, despite the fact that Aflie’s a great guy, fun to be with and has made Emily his number one priority. I could see why someone on Team Gabriel might have beef with Emily possibly toying with Alfie and I could see why people loving Alfie might have beef with Gabriel giving Emily longing looks even while he’s around his girlfriend. But something else much grosser happened during Season 2.. 

The moment I personally cannot get over had to do with Gabriel visiting Camille at her workplace in Episode 4 to apologize and talk some things out. This scene, in general, is necessary for the momentum of the plot, but it also leads to the ickiest moment of the series thus far, in my opinion.  Whilst there, he grabbed some wine from a caterer – liquid courage, I get it – but then he proceeded to take one swig of the white wine and replace the still mostly full glass back on a tray with other clean, unused drinks. 

Are you kidding me, Gabriel? Was this a poorly edited scene on the production’s end? Was this intentional, meant to push the point that sometimes Gabriel can be thoughtless? It’s not exactly a continuity error, but it’s certainly out of character for someone who works in food service for a living to not simply put the glass down elsewhere. 

It’s not as if Emily in Paris is exactly known for its realistic moments, in fact, even fans have been critical and plenty about this show does not make sense, but still. Dude put a dirty glass down with some clean glasses. If you have a fantasy of the perfect man, it certainly would not include a moment like that. If I wasn’t firmly on Team Alfie before, I think I am now. 

I actually thought that Twitter would have been all over this moment, but as it turns out the Internet may love to poke fun at Emily in Paris, but it does not seem as grossed out about used wine glasses as I am. Though there is plenty of chatter about Team Alfie or Team Gabriel...

A quick Google perusal has shown that Alison Foreman over at Mashable did latch onto the very same moment, which makes me feel like less of a crazy person for being so grossed out. But still I wonder: Did the rest of you people just accept this behavior from the handsome chef? Is this the type of behavior we’ve come to expect from our romantic interests on TV? I daresay not! 

For now, I have finished binge-ing Emily in Paris Season 2 and am ready for the Season 3 and 4 renewals Netflix has already signed on for. Though the love triangle takes precedence, I am interested in seeing more from the stacked Emily in Paris cast in upcoming episodes, including Mindy’s story with her father hopefully developing. I also can’t wait for whatever decision Emily Cooper makes regarding her career moving forward. But if I see one more faux pas in terms of hygiene and politeness on this series, I guess it’s gonna have to be all Bridgerton all the time from here on out. 

As a series, Emily in Paris catches a lot of disapproval for a number of reasons. The fashion. The privilege. The c’est la vie, over-the-top storylines. Many viewers on the American side of the pond, though, gobbled up the young marketing exec painting the Paris town red with her ringarde accessories and elementary-level French. However, the Netflix original has been slammed in both seasons by French audiences for the clichéd French stereotypes that get played on. One of the show's French actresses is now addressing her country's criticism with her own spicy take.

Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu, who portrays Sylvie Grateau on Emily in Paris, is a staple in France, going all the way back to the '80s when she got her first César Award nod. Her turn as the lead character's no-nonsense French boss has been more low-key admired for giving opportunity, dimension and no shortage of sex appeal to the older female demographic in a young woman's game. And in Leroy-Beaulieu’s opinion? Her French compatriots are just too serious when it comes to the dramedy. She told Page Six:

And to be honest, the exact same could be said of American viewers who watch Emily in Paris and feel like they are being made out as naive and annoyingly cheery. Producer and lead star Lily Collins in fact had to go to bat for the titular character’s “annoying” qualities because she sees them as “beautiful.” For the born-and-raised French actress behind Sylvie Grateau, she views her own character in particular as “nasty but not really.” It's an exaggeration that is all about fun. She continued to the outlet:

It's all a double-edged sword, to be sure. The characterizations tend to offend respective nationalities, but it is an integral part of Emily in Paris’ escapist appeal. Lily Collins recently revealed that the latter is precisely why the show is once again COVID-free in Season 2 – because it brings a sense of “joy and laughter” amidst real-world difficulty.

Emily in Paris’ second season would end on a big cliffhanger question, much like Season 1. Whether fans will get an answer in a potential third season, Lily Collins was frank about what she would like to see happen. As for Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu, she still has “a lot to teach” these “younger girls.”

A name that has popped up pretty regularly in my life as a movie watcher over the last decade is Lily Collins. Whether that be through her funny romantic comedies, intense dramas or TV shows, I’ve always found myself watching many of her projects and admiring her acting talent.

So today, we’re going to take a look at some of Lily Collins best movies and TV shows, and how you can watch them, from the start of her career to some of her most recent additions to her repertoire. 

The Blind Side (HBO Max)

If you want an inspirational sports story, The Blind Side is the movie for you. Starring the superbly talented Sandra Bullock, this sports film tells the story of Michael Oher, a real-life NFL player who was homeless, until the kind hearts of a family - mainly its matriarch - took him in when no one else would and would create one of the most heartwarming tales in all of football. 

Lily Collins actually made her film debut in this role as Collins, Michael’s adoptive sister in the movie, and her interactions with Michael are honestly some of the best, as it shows that family can come from anywhere. And truly, The Blind Side is one of those movies that you just need to watch if you want to feel good. Sandra Bullock won the Oscar for her role and it's well-deserved, but the whole cast really blew it out of the park.

Stuck In Love (Amazon Prime)

Lily Collins has become a star of romantic comedies with some of her roles, and Stuck in Love is one of them. This film explores the complications of what the term ‘love’ can do in a family, whether it breaks them up, turns people off entirely, or brings them together. This is all talked about with the main family of the film, the Borgens. 

Lily Collins plays Sam in Stuck in Love, and I love her in this movie. Something about her character’s ideas of love, preferring one night stands over actual relationships so she can stop the heartbreak before it happens, is so complicated yet so real. I also love the contrast that her character has with Nat Wolff’s character, Rusty (who is her brother in the movie), who absolutely is infatuated with love. It’s such an interesting and fun movie to watch and I think you would enjoy it too.

Les Miserables (BBC)

While the 2013 movie musical Les Miserables stole the Academy Awards, it wasn’t long before the classic novel was adapted again, this time into a BBC miniseries. Les Miserables follows many characters during the French Revolution, but the main role is Jean Valjean, a man who wishes to do better in life and become a better version of himself after being locked up in prison for several years. 

Lily Collins portrays Fantine, the poor young woman who had a child out of wedlock and is forced to enter into prostitution and sell her hair and teeth to keep her little girl alive. Let me tell you - if you thought that Anne Hathaway was amazing as Fantine, you have to check out Lily Collins’ version of her. It’s heart wrenching to see this young woman so full of life have her world completely turned upside down, turning into someone you hardly even recognize, and that is due to Lily Collins’ great acting skills. She knocks it out of the park with this one.

To The Bone (Netflix)

This Netflix original film turned heads for many reasons. To the Bone, starring Lily Collins, is a compelling drama that demonstrates a common mental illness that many people go through - anorexia. The main character shows her struggles and her battle, as she tries to get better despite all the odds. 

Out of many of Collins’  performances on this list, To the Bone is one of my favorites, hands down. The sheer amount of dedication she put into this role is enough to win me over, but then you see her act her ass off as this young woman, creating a compelling performance that brings tears to my eyes.

Okja (Netflix)

You want to know what happens when a pig with superpowers is exported out of South Korea? That’s what Okja is all about. Watch a little girl try and stop the United States from mishandling her specialized pig.

That premise sounds absolutely bonkers but hear me out. Okja has a large ensemble cast with plenty of talent, including the same director as Parasite, Bong Joon-ho, but the story is so much fun and you’d never expect it to be but truly, I don’t think I’ve had this much fun watching a movie at home in a while. Lily Collins plays Red, one of the animal-rights activists in the movie, and I’ve always loved how she and the others’ chemistry just flows so well. 

The whole cast is super talented as well, combining both famous South Korean actors and American ones. Truly, this film is underrated and you should watch it soon.

Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil And Vile (Netflix)

Another Netflix original film on here, Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile is about one of the most famous serial killers of all time, Ted Bundy. This disturbing story shows just how Ted Bundy used his charm and his wits to lure his victims, and how nobody - not even the woman he truly loved - could ever see what he was doing. 

I love Lily Collins in this movie. Playing Liz Kendall, Ted Bundy’s romantic partner, was truly a test of her acting talent, as her scenes - especially near the end - alongside Zac Efron are spectacular and show just how much range she has. Also, let’s talk about this - Zac Efron was also such a perfect choice for Ted Bundy. I mean, who else could pull off that charm mixed in with that craziness? Such great casting on this one. 

Stream Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile on Netflix. 

Mank (Netflix)

Directed by David Fincher, Mank is our last Netflix original movie on this list, and it’s about the origin story of one of the greatest movies of all time - Citizen Kane. The titular character, the real-life screenwriter Herman J. Mankiewicz struggled for years to write the film, but this movie shows his ups and downs, and his struggles to somehow create the famous drama. 

If we’re going by the most critically acclaimed roles of Lily Collins’ career, Mank would be in first place. In the Academy-Award nominated film, the Mank cast was filled with so much talent, and Lily Collins just added onto that with her portrayal of Mank’s secretary, showing just how much a person can influence a writer and what they do. As someone who has always had a passion for screenwriting, Mank is a brilliant experience from beginning to end.

Tolkien (Amazon Rental)

If you’re a fan of the Lord of the Rings series, be sure to rent Tolkien on your next Amazon night. This biographical film, starring Nicholas Hoult and Lily Collins, tells the origin story of the famous fantasy writer, J.R.R. Tolkien, and how he somehow came up with the wonderful world of Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit, documenting his child years into adulthood. 

I grew up loving fantasy movies and fantasy series’, so watching this film about one of my all-time favorite authors is definitely such a fun time. Lily Collins as Edith Bratt, the actual real-life wife of Tolkien, was perfect casting, and her chemistry with Hoult is amazing. I’ve always adored their love story, but they really bring it to life in this film, not only showing how long they knew each other but how much Tolkien truly loved his wife and how much inspiration she gave him. I could re-watch this film over and over.

Love, Rosie (Paramount+)

Another fun romantic comedy on this list, Love, Rosie tells the classic story of friends becoming lovers. Both Rosie and Alex have been friends for several years, but somehow, even though it’s obvious they have clear crushes on each other, they never seem to get together. However, when life starts to change, they start to change with it. 

Love, Rosie isn’t the most revolutionary romantic comedy. It’s the same formula you would expect from a film like this. But what really saves it for me is Lily Collins’ performance, and her chemistry that she has with her co-star, Sam Claflin. Those two are so cute as best friends, and even their younger counterparts create such a fun, sweet story that anyone can enjoy.

Rules Don’t Apply (Amazon Rental)

Howard Hughes is one of the most famous film directors and producers probably ever, producing some classic films you might know - like Scarface, Hell’s Angels, Vendetta and many, many others from the 1930s to the 1950s. Rules Don’t Apply follows this famous man, and the tight grip he would have on the people in his company, including, a young actress and her love she has for her driver. 

While this movie didn’t do super well at the box office, I still think Rules Don’t Apply is a great film and Lily Collins is awesome as Marla, the main actress that Howard Hughes is keeping an eye on throughout the film, showing her desperation to try and keep the love of her life, well, in her life. I also love Warren Beatty as Howard Hughes - he really captures the powerful aura the producer had back then and how much weight he had in Hollywood.

Mirror Mirror (Amazon Rental)

If you ever wanted a different take on a classic fairytale, check out Mirror Mirror. This film, starring Lily Collins and Julia Roberts, tells the story of Snow White, but not like how you imagined her to be. When her father dies and her evil stepmother takes over, Snow White takes it upon herself to get the help from some friends so she can defeat her stepmother and take back the throne for herself. 

Let me tell you - there are a couple of people I think are perfect casting for live-action princesses. I think that Lily Collins was the best choice for Snow White for so many reasons. She captures that bubbliness that we know the character has mixed in with a surprising amount of strength and resilience that she has to take on her stepmother despite everything being against her, and I gotta say, Lily Collins kills it.

Emily In Paris (Netflix)

It’s why you’re here, isn’t it? Emily in Paris is a Netflix show that follows the titular character when she is whisked away to Paris for a business opportunity, as she tries to adapt to not only the new people around her but a whole new culture and lifestyle. 

Emily in Paris has faced some controversy over its time on Netflix, but I’ll be honest, it’s one of my guilty pleasures, and that’s mainly because of Lily Collins in the lead role. Somehow, she makes Emily feel a lot more relatable rather than someone who is completely clueless to the world of Paris as she tries to fit in, and her fashion is to die for. I wish I could pull off her outfits like she does. And the Emily in Paris cast is full of talent.

With Season 2 premiering soon, could fans look forward to a third season? The star has some thoughts. 

Even though the first season of Emily In Paris was met with some criticism, it didn’t stop Netflix from renewing it for a second season. Lily Collins talked to Glamour ahead of Season 2 and she gave her thoughts about attempts to be slightly more diverse in upcoming episodes, as well as thoughts on a potential third outing alongside the rest of the cast:

Emily In Paris was Netflix’s most popular comedy series of 2020, with 58 million households watching some or all of the episodes. It’s not so surprising that the streamer renewed it so quickly, and it seems like Season 2 would have to tank pretty hard for Netflix to back away from order more episodes. Collins spoke more about the efforts to improve the show through representation, saying:

It's obviously hard to tell whether or not Netflix will renew the series, considering the latest episodes still haven't debuted. Season 1 sparked some major backlash from viewers due to some French-focused stereotypes. It will be interesting to see what will happen in Season 2 and if Emily In Paris will fix the stereotyping issues along with others. It's still possible that Netflix will renew the series for a third season even if the problems persist, assuming enough people are watching those problems, but the streaming execs likely won’t be making the announcement until after Season 2 numbers are tallied.

Fingers crossed that Emily In Paris gets renewed for a third season and it doesn’t fall victim to Netflix’s list of short-lived series that were cancelled after a season or two. Season 2 will debut on Wednesday, December 22, so be sure to make it a Christmas week binge to help those chances.

2021 is almost at an end, and it’s closing out strong for many streaming services. As always, Netflix is bringing the heat and has some of its best programming of the year on deck and ready to prep us for 2022. What’s better, there’s stuff that’s entirely unrelated to the holiday season, just in case subscribers are reaching holiday burnout. 

Of course, some people can’t get enough of Christmas, so rest assured that for all the options this season, Netflix still has some holiday offerings worth checking out. Overall, I’d say there are at least nine spectacular originals coming this December that need checking out, so let’s dive in and figure out why!

Lost in Space (Final Season) - 12/1

The good news is that Lost in Space is back for Season 3, but unfortunately, the ride ends there. The Netflix series enters its final season at the start of December and will feature the Robinsons attempting to save Alpha Centauri from a robot invasion. First, they’ll have to reunite, so expect this series to really pull out the thrills in its final episodes!

Coming Out Colton - 12/3

The Bachelor’s Colton Underwood surprised many when he came out as a gay man, mainly because they saw him pine for the love of many eligible women on national television. Now, in Netflix’s Coming Out Colton, audiences will get a chance to see Underwood’s journey as a gay man and confront his past while attempting to find his place in the LGBTQ+ community. I can see Bachelor fans interested in seeing this one, as well as anyone genuinely curious about the next chapter for Underwood.

​​The Great British Baking Show: Holidays (Season 4) - 12/3

The Great British Baking Show is one of the best cooking shows on television, and adding the holidays on top of that only makes it better. Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood welcome back some familiar faces on this holiday edition of the show set to arrive on Netflix in early December. I know I’ll be watching with a bag of snacks next to me, and who knows? I may even find the inspiration to cook a little after watching!

Saturday Morning All Star Hits! - 12/10

If you’re someone who gets nostalgic about the '80s and '90s era of Saturday morning cartoons, this is something to look out for. This irreverent adult-animation series comes from Saturday Night Live’s Kyle Mooney and Ben Jones. Mooney plays twins in a live-action hybrid series that mimics the iconic era of children’s television that adults today grew up with. I’ve always been a fan of Mooney’s work, so I’m hoping this series lives up to the awesome expectations I’m building in my head.

Selling Tampa - 12/15

Selling Sunset thrives as a popular home show on Netflix, and like other successful home shows, it’s getting a number of spinoffs. Selling Tampa is the newest one arriving on Netflix in mid-December and will follow a Tampa all-Black female real estate agent firm called Allure Realty. It’s all the fun of Selling Sunset but in Tampa! I typically only watch these kinds of shows when I’m moving, and I’m not trying to pack my bags just yet, but home show fans will definitely want to give this one a try.

The Witcher (Season 2) - 12/17

One of Netflix’s biggest original shows is back for another season, and I don’t know about you, but I’m thrilled to see Henry Cavill kicking ass and taking names as Geralt of Rivia. What’s even better is that Cavill recently confirmed he’s committed to sticking with the series’ seven-year plan, which means there’s a lot more of The Witcher to come over the years. Now would be a great time to rewatch or catch up on Season 1, which I’ll definitely need to do because I got a bit lost watching at first. 

Emily in Paris (Season 2) - 12/22

Here’s a fun fact about Emily in Paris that I love to bring up every time I see the show title: if you say the series name the way Paris is supposed to be pronounced in French, it rhymes! I’m not sure that will be addressed in Season 2 of Emily in Paris, and the creator teased that Emily will have some tough decisions ahead of her. Fans will, of course, be thrilled to see Emily’s continuing adventures, which will probably feature more of France undermining her American ideal of what the country should be. It doesn’t seem like this series is a glowing advertisement for France!

Cobra Kai (Season 4) - 12/31

Cobra Kai Season 4 will help ring in the new year with the series’ most significant challenge yet. Johnny and Daniel joined forces in an attempt to put a stop to John Kreese’s twisted version of Cobra Kai. Unfortunately, we already know that Kreese will get back up in the form of Terry Silver, who has a knack for seeking out the most brutal recruits and fighters. I’m not quite sure who stands the best chance at winning the All-Valley Tournament out of all the main characters at the moment, but I am optimistic for Miguel’s comeback after he gains some more strength. My second choice is definitely Robby Keene, but man, what a downer that would be if he won at this point.

Queer Eye (Season 6) - 12/31

Queer Eye fans know exactly what the show is about at this point, and as a fan, I can say I’m certainly not sick of it. The Fab 5 are back again looking to revamp the lives of folks who need just a little sprucing up, and they’re headed to Austin, Texas this season to change some hearts and minds in the Lone Star state. I’m curious to see how the boys adapt to life there and whether they learn some things along the way about living deep in the heart of Texas. 

Netflix subscribers can catch all these shows and more on the platform beginning in December. I’m looking forward to a good month of original content to close out 2021 and hoping that 2022 is even more loaded with iconic originals that will make another year just fly by.

When Emily in Paris premiered on Netflix back in 2020, fans eagerly raced through the first season for a lot of reasons. Hot French men? Check. Hilariously questionable fashion? Yes. And it was the Sex and The City creator’s latest project? Sounds perfect. It ended up being frequently lauded as the definitive show of the quarantine era. Simultaneously, though, it faced a lot of backlash for being kind of problematic, annoying, and excessive, among other things. But the lead star, Lily Collins, actually appreciates her character's perceived “annoying” qualities.

The series intentionally played up a lot of the stereotypes that seemingly divide American people from French people. (And evidently, one of its actors sees a particular cliché as very much true on the French side.) Yet by doing so, many on both sides of the proverbial pond found the characters to be two-dimensional, or flat. Emily herself rubbed Americans wrong because we don't particularly like to perceive of ourselves as overtly chipper and ringarde.

It really is a razor-thin tightrope the show is walking. But Lily Collins is looking to shift the stigma of Emily's characterization. In an interview with Nylon, the actress reflected:

To be sure, excessively happy people aren't always in vogue. They tend to trigger and scrape against us Darias of the world. But Emily's wide-eyed optimism is precisely why so many got hooked on the show during the pandemic. It was an uncertain time and a character like hers, so wholeheartedly certain and easy-going, was like living a collective fantasy. Escapism, as they say.

Still, Emily in Paris wasn't just discredited because of Emily's incessant cheeriness. Viewers also frequently noted that Emily's privilege as a white woman seemed to precede her. It felt like she might’ve been making a name for herself by flying by the seat of her pants, not necessarily skill level. However, creator Darren Criss previously said he wouldn't apologize for the glamorization of his lead character's life because it was simply her own point of view as an “American girl who has never been there.”

Despite (or maybe because of) all the water cooler conversations, Netflix renewed the dramedy a second season. From what we know so far, some important characters have been will become series regulars. Moreover, based on the teaser trailer, it seems like everyone is taking a vacation to St. Tropez.

One thing in particular is very likely to happen in Emily in Paris Season 2: Camille finds out about the cheating.  In which case, Paris might just make a stereotypical less-happy Parisian out of Emily yet. The new season premieres on Netflix on December 22 but, in the meantime, check out our list of other great shows to watch if you liked Lilly Collins' series.

Sometimes, I need a break from the fantastic shows that TV has given me in the last ten years. I need a break from the fantasy shows like Game of Thrones, or the amazing Amazon original series like The Boys. And, sometimes, that comes in the form of a show like the Netflix hit Emily in Paris, and I’ll admit - this show is my guilty pleasure. By far.

That being said, I know that there are several things in Emily in Paris that just don’t make sense, from Emily’s age being a bit unclear to many other moments. While I am looking forward to Emily in Paris Season 2, I think it’s a good time to talk about certain moments in Emily in Paris Season 1 that just don’t make sense.

That Real-Estate Agent In The First Episode

This is one of my biggest pet-peeves from the show, right out from the beginning of Emily in Paris. The moment Emily gets that amazing apartment in Paris (which, by the way, in and of itself, would be impossible for someone with her kind of job to get in a city like Paris with a view as great as she had), that real estate agent is flirting with her - instantly.

Not only is that incredibly unprofessional, but super pervy. The guy is literally trying to show her around the apartment and is asking her out on a date like that? I can appreciate how Emily turned him down very quickly since she was dating someone at the time, but it’s still a super weird moment. Also, why would he do this in any professional environment? This is his job we're talking about, and he's going to ruin his reputation by flirting with a client - a client who could report that to his boss. It just doesn't make sense.

Why Did Her “Supportive” Boyfriend Suddenly Break Up With Emily?

At the very beginning of the series, when Emily first tells her boyfriend that she is going to make the trip to Paris, knowing it was going to be a huge thing for her career if she did so, her boyfriend seemed to be supportive. But, literally not even two full episodes later, he’s all “what about my needs?”

I’m sorry, didn’t you just say not that long ago that you were totally okay with Emily going to Paris? You even seemed excited for her, and now you’re saying that you just want her to come back and abandon this amazing opportunity? I’m sorry, sir, but that is not okay, and makes zero sense. I think I’d believe it more if this was a couple of months into Emily working in Paris, and they had tried the whole long-distance thing more, but this feels like a literal week after, and seems very flip-floppy of him. While he wasn’t a huge addition to the Emily in Paris cast, it's still off-putting.

Emily Seems To Influence Social Media Effortlessly - Which Doesn’t Make Sense At All For the Plot

Look, I get it, Emily in Emily in Paris is very good at social media. It’s her job - but the fact that this girl starts out influencing like she’s already super famous is borderline comical. Again, I would believe it more if maybe she had started taking over Savoir’s Instagram page and only influenced from there, but she starts a random account on Instagram as a no-name no one knows.

And, what happens? She gets thousands of followers - instantly. All because she’s posted a couple pictures of croissants and a selfie? Good lord. I feel like some of the writers for this didn’t look into how long it truly takes to become an actual influencer. It’s never that easy, and it makes her look like some superstar when in reality, it’s just not realistic.

The French Stereotypes Are Way Too Much In Emily In Paris

You know, when I first heard the comments about the French stereotypes in Emily in Paris, I didn’t think that it was going to be bad. Sometimes, shows lean into stereotypes when they really have nothing else to comment on, which isn't good, but usually it's not for the whole show. But, then I rewatched the series, and realized that the criticisms that Emily in Paris has been facing regarding stereotypes are very true. They're everywhere in this show.

Emily in Paris takes French stereotypes and really leans into them, saying all they want to do is sleep around and do nothing all day, working simply just so they can have a paycheck, when Emily is the “real” hardworking one. That’s a terrible way to paint basically a whole entire nation of people. It’s even capitalized on when Sylvie, Emily’s boss, is sleeping with a client. It doesn’t ever stop, and that’s what makes it so hard to watch again.

Emily Never Adapts To Her Surroundings - She Makes Everyone Else Adapt To Her

I think one of the biggest things that kind of made me think of this article was seeing Emily in the city in general. In Emily in Paris, she never really adapts to being in Paris - she sort of makes everyone adapt to her. We maybe see her take one French class, but other than that, she really doesn’t make much of an effort to adjust to this entirely different country, with a completely different culture from hers.

Whenever she gets in trouble, it’s always, “well it’s not my culture, so I shouldn’t be at fault,” when in reality, she should be apologizing for her behavior. For example, when Mindy tries to explain why no one ever sends food back, Emily gets all upset and says that if it’s not what she ordered, she wants to get it done correctly. While I can agree with wanting your order correct, when you’re in a different environment, it’s best to go with the flow as much as possible.

Why Is Everyone Speaking English In Paris?

For real. We are in France. Why is everyone speaking English? I can see why there would be people who speak English at a company for the sake of networking, but when there are company meetings in Emily in Paris where everyone is from the country, why would everyone be speaking English and not French? Why would they just conform for Emily’s sake?

I honestly thought Emily in Paris would have gone the way of Outlander or any other show and used with the language of the country. As a viewer, as much as I do enjoy seeing how a fashion company would work, it takes me out of the moment when native French speakers who work in France speak nothing but English. Speaking French would have worked better.

Now that I’ve gotten that off my chest, I can now continue to look forward to Season 2 of Emily in Paris - maybe watch some shows like Emily in Paris in the meantime. Regardless, whether you liked how Emily acted in Paris or not, I think we can all agree on one thing that did make sense - Camille has amazing style.

Netflix has a bounty of amazing shows for anyone to watch, such as the period drama, Bridgerton, or the upcoming The Witcher Season 2. However, there’s one show that’s gotten popular recently - whether for the right or wrong reasons - and that’s Emily in Paris.

While I feel that everyone knows who Lily Collins is, you might not know where some of the other cast members hail from. They might have been in the 2021 Netflix TV shows, or in some of the best shows on Netflix. During this time while we prepare for Emily in Paris Season 2, let’s take a look at where you might have seen the Emily in Paris cast before, including Lily Collins and Lucas Bravo.

Lily Collins (Emily Cooper)

As the titular character in Emily in Paris, Emily is a happy-go-lucky young woman somewhere in her twenties - exactly how old is she? - who travels to Paris for a work opportunity, and she's played by the wonderful Lily Collins, daughter of Phil Collins. Collins herself, prior to her role in Emily in Paris, has done plenty in Hollywood, and made her name known.

Collins’ breakthrough was way back in 2009 when The Blind Side released, and ever since then, she’s been in several different types of films. This includes the sci-fi film, Priest, the psychological film, Abduction, the fantasy film, The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, and several romantic comedies, such as The English Teacher, Love, Rosie and more.

Lily Collins has also been in several films that have shown off her talent, such as Rules Don’t Apply, To The Bone, and the Netflix original film, Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile. She was also in the biographical film, Tolkien in 2019, as well as the Netflix original film, Mank.

While she didn’t do much in the TV realm prior to her role on Emily in Paris - since most of her work is focused in film - she was in the BBC miniseries of Les Miserables, where she portrayed Fantine. Hopefully with her as the lead in this popular Netflix series, we’ll get to see her a lot more on the small screen soon.

Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu (Sylvie Grateux)

I think everyone sort of had a love-hate relationship with Sylvie on Emily in Paris, mainly because while she did treat Emily a bit poorly (some of it warranted because who goes to a French office and doesn’t speak French?), she also was a boss who got stuff done and was good at her job, almost like Miranda Priestly from The Devil Wears Prada. Philippine Leroy-Baeulieu is responsible for this amazing portrayal of Sylvie.

Prior to her role in Emily in Paris, Leroy-Beaulieu primarily focused on her roles in several French films, such as Trois couples en quete d’orages or Jeanne et le loup. She also has appeared in several French TV shows, with main roles in Agatha Koltes as the lead, and Call My Agent!, and Mirage.

Ashley Park (Mindy Chen)

Mindy Chen is one of Emily’s first friends when she arrives in Paris in Emily in Paris, a young nanny with a voice that shines above the rest, drawing ears for all to hear. Ashley Park plays Mindy Chen, and she's a woman who is full of many talents.

Before her role on Emily in Paris, Mindy Chen was big in the theater world, having roles in several Broadway productions. This includes, but is not limited, to Mamma Mia!, The King and I, Sunday in the Park with George, Grand Horizons, and her biggest role, Mean Girls: The Musical. In 2021, she also played a part in Ratatouille, the benefit concert that happened at the beginning of the year.

In TV, Mindy Chen has also appeared in a couple of other shows as well, including a role in the comedy series, Nightcap, as well as the drama series, Tales of the City. This year, she’s also had a recurring role in the Peacock original series, Girls5eva, so hopefully we’ll be able to see more of her soon.

Lucas Bravo (Gabriel)

Gabriel certainly looks like the dream guy that every girl would want in Emily in Paris. He is a chef, handsome, and seems to be a nice guy - except he is taken, unfortunately, spewing on mountains worth of drama for everyone to enjoy from their couches. Lucas Bravo portrays Gabriel in the show, and has been active in the film and TV industry for some time.

Like some of his co-stars, Bravo has mainly stuck to French film and TV. He’s appeared in French films such as Smart Ass, and has popped up in a number of French TV series, including a guest role in Plus belle la vie, and a recurring role in Sous le soleil de Saint-Tropez. Coming up, he will be making an appearance in the drama film, Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris, so hopefully we’ll be able to see a little more of Gabriel soon enough.

Samuel Arnold (Julien)

I have to say, Julien is one of my favorite characters in Emily in Paris. Not only was he sassy and didn’t hold back his opinion in Season 1, but he is a good co-worker to Emily and tries to help her out as best he could - even if she sometimes annoys him, but all good friendships are like that. Samuel Arnold plays Julien in Emily in Paris.

Prior to his role in Emily in Paris, Samuel Arnold had a role in National Theater Live: Antony & Cleopatra, as well as a part in the TV movie, Tuer un homme. He also had a guest role in the French TV series, Platane, but Emily in Paris seems to be one of his first bigger roles. He also had a part in the Pandemica TV miniseries, where he voiced a character, but hopefully with Emily in Paris Season 2 coming out soon, we will get to see Julien a whole lot more - and that means more Samuel Arnold.

Bruno Gouery (Luc)

Another one of Emily’s co-workers in Emily in Paris, Luc and Julien are top-tier comedy, and make this show freaking hilarious despite its dramatic moments. Bruno Gouery plays Luc in Emily in Paris, and has done plenty in French TV and film, much like the rest of his co-stars.

Gouery has made appearances in several French films, but has also been in many TV shows as well. He had a role in the French TV series, Doc Martin, as well as a role in President Alphonse and Super Jimmy. Recently, Bruno Gouery was also in a film titled Rose Island on Netflix. With Season 2 of Emily in Paris hopefully coming soon, we will get to see more hijinks between Luc and Julien soon.

Camille Razat (Camille)

I don’t know if it’s just me, but I wanted to hate Camille so badly. Emily and Gabriel have great chemistry, but when you find out that Gabriel has a girlfriend - Camille - and she’s literally the nicest human on earth, you just can’t hate her. Plus, she also becomes friends with Emily, which doesn’t help Emily’s feelings for Gabriel in the slightest.

Camille is played by Camille Razat, who has been active in the French TV and film scene for a little bit of time. She’s appeared in a couple of French films, namely Rock’n Roll, Paris Pigalle, and more, but has had some roles in French TV as well. She had a main role in the eight-part French miniseries, The Disappearance, and had a guest role in Captain Marleau.

Coming up, she will be in two more French films, titled Les Choses humaines and Mastemah, as well as Emily in Paris Season 2, so hopefully soon we’ll get to see her in TV or film again.

William Abadie (Antoine Lambert)

Antoine Lambert is almost the same as Sylvie in Emily in Paris, with the same work ethic and a success record to prove it - but he is a bit of a player, so we can’t like him entirely. William Abadie portrays Antoine Lambert, and since his character was promoted to a series regular in Season 2, I have a feeling we’re going to see a lot more of him soon.

Abadie has been active in film and TV for some time, with plenty of roles. He’s had parts in Pink Panther, Resident Evil: Extinction, My Sassy Girl, The Human Contract and more. Abadie has also had several guest stars in plenty of TV shows, including Sex and the City (created by Emily in Paris creator Darren Star), CSI: NY, Entourage, Gossip Girl, 90210 and more. William Abadie also had a recurring role in the drama series, Homeland.

Kate Walsh (Madeline Wheeler)

While she didn't make that many appearances in the show in Season 1, Madeline Wheeler is responsible for sending Emily off to Paris in Emily in Paris, so she needs to be included with how much her one decision impacted the lives of others. Kate Walsh portrays Emily’s American boss, Madeline, in Emily in Paris, and has done plenty in Hollywood.

Walsh has appeared in several films, such as Under the Tuscan Sun, Bewitched, the coming of age film, The Perks of Being a Wallflower, Girls Trip and more. Walsh has also had recurring roles on TV shows such as Fargo, The Fugitive, The Drew Carey Show, and others. One of her biggest roles was playing Dr. Addison Montgomery in the medical drama, Grey’s Anatomy for several years, as well as her role in Private Practice.

After that, she went on to have roles in the NBC sitcom, Bad Judge, played Olivia Baker in the Netflix series, 13 Reasons Why, and plays The Handler on The Umbrella Academy, so there’s truly no stopping this amazing actress. I can’t wait to see what she does next - that is until she pops up in Season 2 of Emily in Paris.

With so many stars, both international and national, I’m eager to see what they’re going to do next, both in Emily in Paris Season 2 and in their other projects. What are you excited about the most when the next season premieres?

Ever since New Girl came to an end not that long ago, I’ve found myself missing the great moments that the show would offer me, whether that be the shenanigans that Winston would cause with his little (or big) pranks, or the best one-liners from Schmidt, or even watching Jess and Nick be an adorable yet complicated couple. I can re-watch the show all I want, but sometimes I just need to find something else that’s similar, but not the same.

Shrill (Hulu)

In this Hulu original series, Shrill follows Annie, a woman who wants to change her life and make it as a journalist while dealing with bad boyfriends, parents that are sick, and a boss that makes it almost impossible to work - all while the world seems to not think she is good enough because of her weight.

Starring Aidy Bryant of Saturday Night Live fame, Shrill offers fans of New Girl the same story of a young woman just trying to make it in the world. The combination of comedy with the themes of structured society and what it means to be yourself really make this show stand out above the rest. There’s no denying that this is definitely a great comedy series - but one that has heart as well.

Love Life (HBO Max)

HBO Max has been coming out with some interesting original shows since the launch of the streaming service, like the newly rebooted Gossip Girl, or the Kaley Cuoco-led The Flight Attendant. However, one of my favorites so far has been Love Life. In this anthology series, we follow a new lead character each season, from their first relationship to their very last.

If you loved the relationships in New Girl, this is a great show for you. The first season follows Anna Kendrick’s character, Darby, as she looks for love, and the mix of romance and comedy makes this one of HBO Max’s best shows so far. Also, the friendship between Darby and Sam (played by Zoe Chao) is to die for and I love them so much. Love Life Season 2 will star William Jackson Harper from The Good Place, according to Variety, so if you want to catch up on the series, check it out now before a new story starts!

Friends (HBO Max)

I feel like everyone has heard of Friends at some point in their lives. Friends takes place in New York City, and stars six friends in their twenties - later in their thirties - as they try to navigate their adult lives through their friendships, romantic relationships, careers, and more - getting into shenanigans along the way.

In my opinion, I don’t think any other network TV program has ever become quite as big as Friends. While there were plenty of sitcoms beforehand that had friends living together, Friends became a worldwide hit and I personally believe it was the blueprint for shows like New Girl where people are living together. The chemistry between the Friends cast is great, the jokes hysterical, the storylines emotional - it’s truly iconic in every way. The only thing I don’t believe is that they somehow afforded that NYC apartment.

Young And Hungry (Netflix)

In Young and Hungry, Josh, who is a young tech entrepreneur, hires Gabi, a young food blogger, to be his personal chef. While some people might doubt her skills, Gabi sets out to prove her worth to her boss so she can keep her job.

I know the premise sounds a bit typical at first, but Young and Hungry is anything but. For fans of New Girl, I feel that this show has a lot of the same comedy quirks and jokes that New Girl would have, mixed in with some great-looking food and cute romances that will make you smile. Emily Osment also shines in this series as the leading lady, making Gabi truly one of those characters that you just have to root for.

Community (Netflix)

In Community, when Jeff Winger is disbarred from his law firm after it was discovered he was faking having a bachelor’s degree from Columbia, he enrolls in Greendale Community College to earn a legitimate degree. However, when he enrolls there, he quickly becomes part of a group of students who all have their own quirky traits and characteristics.

Dan Harmon, the creator of the adult animation Rick and Morty, created Community. And let me say that if you love the comedy in New Girl, you’ll adore Community just as much. Not only is the Community cast awesome and have great chemistry together, the show has a lot of heart despite never taking itself too seriously. Plus, it launched the careers of several stars, like Donald Glover, Danny Pudi and many more. Remember Abed’s prediction - six seasons and a movie, so hopefully we’ll be getting that movie someday, so now you have to watch it.

Jane The Virgin (Netflix)

What I love about this show is that it’s based on Spanish telenovelas, so you know it’s going to be dramatic. When Jane in Jane the Virgin goes to visit her gynecologist, something crazy happens. See, Jane was raised in a religious household, and wants to save her virginity for marriage. But at her visit, she is accidentally inseminated, where she inevitably becomes pregnant.

I know, the premise sounds completely ridiculous, but this CW show is truly one of its best. Gina Rodriguez is a star and rocks it in her role as Jane, with an amazing Jane the Virgin cast beside her, creating heartfelt stories with several twists that will make you either laugh, cry, or both. For fans of New Girl, this show has just the right amount of ridiculousness to keep you watching, just like New Girl had.

Happy Endings (Netflix)

Happy Endings follows six best friends, who live in Chicago, all of whom have their own dysfunctional lives and adventures, and are trying to somehow navigate through their lives thus far.

I’ll get straight into it - Happy Endings almost feels a little bit like the Friends of Chicago, which makes it perfect for fans of New Girl. Honestly, it should have gone on for several more seasons besides just three. The chemistry between this cast is just amazing, especially between Damon Wayans Jr. and Eliza Coupe as a couple. Everyone plays so well off of each other and makes you laugh in the best ways. I’m still so upset that it ended after three seasons, but at the very least, you can watch it now.

The Mindy Project (Hulu)

In this series created by Mindy Kaling, The Mindy Project follows Mindy Lahiri, who works as an obstetrician/gynecologist in New York City. She tries to balance both her personal life and her professional life, all while surrounded by her co-workers in a small medical practice, who have their own fun traits and quirks as well.

I think what I love the most about this series for New Girl fans is that Mindy’s character reminds me a lot of Jess, except in a totally different job field, obviously. They’re both trying to do well in their careers and make the best out of bad situations while constantly trying to handle their personal issues as well. Mindy Kaling really brought her all to this series and showed off her comedy chops along with her story-writing skills.

Emily In Paris (Netflix)

This Netflix original series follows Emily, a girl from Chicago, who unexpectedly gets a job opportunity in Paris - hence the title, Emily in Paris. She is tasked with bringing an American perspective to a venerable French marketing firm.

Okay, controversies with this show aside - I actually do enjoy Emily in Paris and think it would be good for New Girl fans as well, because this is another situation where Emily reminds me a lot of Jess. It’s this young woman who is thrown into a situation out of nowhere and has to make the best of it to somehow succeed. While they are two very different stories, I believe fans of the show will enjoy Emily in Paris - if not for the drama it brings, but for the great scenic shots you get of Paris. With a Season 2 of Emily in Paris on the way, it's definitely worth a watch.

Friends From College (Netflix)

As the last on this list, Friends from College is anything but the least. This Netflix show follows a group of close-knit friends from Harvard who are all in their 40s, and are trying to navigate their intertwined lives, through work, romance, and several other factors.

This series is another one of those Netflix shows that I think ended too soon, because the cast for this was just outstanding. With stars like Keegan-Michael Key, Fred Savage and more in the cast, I don’t know how it could get better. But what really makes this a great show for fans of New Girl are the messy romances. Yeah, you know the ones - where one person is secretly dating two people (cough, Schmidt cough) or any of the other ridiculous plotlines you could think of. I still think Friends from College could have had such a great story if it continued with more seasons, but we’ll have to just deal with the two seasons we got.

I know that the loss of New Girl episodes is a shame and we will all miss our goofballs in that loft in California, but at least we can fill the void with plenty of other TV shows. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go watch the Friends reunion for the umpteenth time.

Last year, a show which received a lot of criticism premiered on Netflix, titled Emily in Paris. The series, while it did receive a considerable amount of backlash, was still a popular hit for the streaming platform when it came out and was renewed for a second season.

But, what exactly do we watch in the meantime while we’re all patiently waiting for Emily in Paris Season 2? While we could spend our time watching the best movies on Netflix or the best movies on Amazon Prime, I think we could all spend our time a little bit better by getting obsessed with another TV series. Here are some shows like Emily in Paris that you can stream right now.

Sex And The City (HBO Max)

Sex and the City takes place in the wonderful world of New York City, where we get to follow the lives of a group of four women, three of whom are in their mid-thirties, with one in their forties, while they navigate their sex lives, and everything else as they remain friends.

Darren Star, the man behind Emily in Paris, created Sex and the City, and the show was a runaway hit for the writer. Not only was it so popular it spawned a couple of movies after the show ended, but there’s also now going to be a revival on HBO Max soon, with most of the original cast is coming back. It’s truly such a great watch, with plenty of jokes – even if some are a little dated nowadays.

Never Have I Ever (Netflix)

This Netflix original series is exactly what you need on a chill day at home. Never Have I Ever follows the story of Devi Vishwakumar, a young teenager who just recently lost her father, and now has to juggle her life between two love interests, a cute nerd and a dreamboat jock – whatever shall she do?

I know that the premise of Never Have I Ever sounds like every other teen show out there, but I think it's a Netflix’ show not enough people talk about. The way that they handle several serious topics, such as depression, grief, first loves, and so much more, is surprisingly realistic, and for fans of Emily in Paris, everyone loves a good love triangle.

Dash & Lily (Netflix)

I remember when I first watched this series, I thought it was the cutest little show ever. Dash & Lily takes place in New York City during Christmas time, and follows a boy who finds a book of dares left by another in a bookstore in Manhattan, when Dash finds the notebook, he decides to take the writer up on her challenge, which leads into a whirlwind of fun and love.

This is one of those series where it is so fluffy and romantic that it will make you feel warm inside. Like Emily in Paris, it takes place in a big city that's full of dreams and opportunities, but there’s something about Dash & Lily that makes me like it a hint more. Maybe it’s that they’re so young and just learning how to really love, or the festiveness of the holidays – I’m not sure, but I know that if you decide to give it a chance, you won’t regret it.

The Bold Type (Hulu)

In The Bold Type, we get another tale of women just starting out in their industry in New York City, getting a glimpse into the life of what it’s like to produce a woman’s magazine. Each of these girls, with their own lives and loves and losses, experience their own issues, all while trying to stay bold and confident at the same time.

The Bold Type is what Emily in Paris is trying to be, except Emily is – I think - a bit older (how old is she, honestly?). It’s about women who are just trying to make it in their respective careers, most of which are in the media industry (like Emily), all while dealing with real adult issues, such as finding their own identity, experiencing heartbreak, and managing friendships. It’s a show for the young adults of today – and it’s why I enjoy it so much.

Jane The Virgin (Netflix)

Stick with me on this premise here, my friends – Jane the Virgin is about Jane Villanueva, a 23-year-old virgin who ends up becoming pregnant after an accidental insemination by her gynecologist.

I know. It sounds absolutely bonkers and probably something you would see in a soap opera of some sort, but that’s what makes Jane the Virgin such a great option for Emily in Paris fans. It constantly parodies Latin American telenovelas with some of its plotlines, but it also has amazing stories of love, loss, grief, heartbreak, and so much more. I swear you’ll love it.

Ted Lasso (Apple TV+)

Hands down, one of the best shows Apple TV+ has offered so far. Ted Lasso is all about the titular character, Ted Lasso, an American football coach who only coached Division 3 college football, before he takes a job in England coaching a professional football team (otherwise known as “soccer” in America), trying to fix their losing record.

This is the perfect show for fans of Emily in Paris because it again deals with an American outsider adjusting to the culture of a completely different culture, except this time it’s England. And, if we’re being honest, Ted Lasso is better in so many ways, in my opinion. There are so many heartwarming moments, plenty of amazing comedy, and Jason Sudeikis kills it as Ted, alongside his amazing Ted Lasso cast members. Season 2 only just began, so please, watch this show if you haven’t.

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (Amazon Prime)

In this Amazon original series, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel follows Miriam “Midge” Maisel, a young woman who had her whole life planned – college, marriage, family, and throw the best Yom-Kippur breakfasts out there. But, when her husband suddenly leaves her, it’s up to her to figure out where she goes from there.

First off, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel takes place in the 1950s and '60s, so the costumes and sets are awesome. Secondly, Maisel herself ends up finding out she has a knack for comedy, so her stand-up gigs will have you holding your side from laughter. And, third, the story is a lot of fun, too, with plenty of twists and turns. Emily in Paris always follows Emily trying to live her life without her American boyfriend. Maisel, in her own way, does a similar thing, and she does fantastically.

New Girl (Netflix)

This is the ultimate TV series that defines “a new girl in an unfamiliar place.” New Girl is all about Jess, a young woman who was living with her boyfriend when she suddenly comes home one day and finds him cheating on her with another woman. So, she moves out of their home and into a loft with three strangers, Nick, Winston, and Schmidt, all of whom are special in their own ways.

I won’t even lie – New Girl has to be one of my favorite comedies from the last decade. Like Emily, Jess is a different kind of girl with her own set of quirks, but the difference between this and Emily in Paris is that Jess has some of the funniest roommates ever. I could do a whole compilation of Schmidt’s greatest moments from this show - the New Girl cast is perfection. Trust me, you’ll end up laughing your head off.

Gilmore Girls (Netflix)

In this popular series, Gilmore Girls follows the story of the literal Gilmore girls, Rory and Lorelai Gilmore, a daughter and a mother who live in Hartford, as we watch Rory grow into a young woman, Lorelai find love, and so much more.

For a show like Gilmore Girls, I don’t need to really convince you to watch it. The show was so popular that, years later, there was a Gilmore Girls revival series on Netflix. I think of Emily as being a bit like Rory from this show, except we really get to see Rory grow throughout the show, from this young woman just starting out in a private school to someone who ends up going to an elite college. Without giving much away, give this iconic series a chance. You’ll fall in love with the Gilmore girls – and probably want to call your mother after.

Younger (Paramount+)

Another series created by Darren Star, Younger is about Liza Miller, a 40-year-old divorcee that has to somehow manage her life in a publishing company, even though she faked her identity to get the job, while also trying to keep her own personal romances and professional issues in check.

Since Darren Star created Emily in Paris, you know that Younger has that same exact quirkiness that both Emily in Paris and Sex and the City had. There’s so much silliness that pops up from time to time, and I absolutely love the friendship between Sutton Foster’s Liza Miller and Hilary Duff’s Kelsey Peters. Really, the two of them carry this show. They’re so amazing.

Valeria (Netflix)

In this international series from Netflix, Valeria follows a young woman named Valeria, who lives in Madrid, Spain. She feels like there is something missing from her writing, as well as her marriage, and it’s up to her to try and figure out what.

With only eight episodes, Valeria is the shortest series you can binge on this list, but it’s worth every second. Like Emily in Paris, this Spanish show tackles the feelings of love and loss regularly, while also trying to find that one thing that makes you passionate, such as writing. Plus, you also get to explore the city of Madrid right from the comfort of your couch – I think that’s a win in my book.

While Emily in Paris Season 2 probably won’t arrive until later this year, we can at least have these shows to watch in the meantime to prepare us for it. Now, what to watch? Sex and the City or Younger?

When it comes to 2020 and 2021, there were plenty of new shows that captured the public’s eye, from hits like Bridgerton on Netflix to the latest superhero hit, Invincible, on Amazon Prime. For the rest of the year, there are plenty of 2021 Netflix TV premieres coming soon, but I think we should take a look at the next season of another popular show, most likely not releasing so soon – Emily in Paris.

The show became extremely popular once it premiered on Netflix, becoming one of the best shows to binge-watch on the platform at the time. While there are several shows that are part of the 2021 fall TV schedule, Emily in Paris might not be one of them. However, we can at least do some digging and figure out everything we know about the next season of the Emmy-nominated comedy.

There’s No Set Premiere Date Yet For Emily In Paris Season 2

Unfortunately, there is no set date for the next season of Emily in Paris just yet. The first season premiered on October 2, 2020, so if production goes well, we might see the second season later on this year – but there's been no confirmation of when it will arrive just yet.

Filming For Emily In Paris Season 2 Was Announced In May 2021

While we can’t confirm a premiere date for Emily in Paris Season 2, we can confirm that filming for Season 2 was underway as of May 2021, with the whole cast already diving head-first into new adventures with Emily.

On the official Emily in Paris Instagram page, the user posted a video of the cast, showing them on set on the first day of filming back in May. With this in mind, as long as filming keeps progressing, who knows? We might be able to see Season 2 sooner than we think.

Antoine Is Going To Become A Regular In Season 2 Of Emily In Paris

With Emily in Paris, you can pretty much assume that everyone you know and love (or love to hate) will be there, but a few characters will be getting the spotlight more, namely Antoine. If you remember, Antoine was the former lover of Sylvie, Emily’s boss over in Paris, and the owner of Maison Lavaux, otherwise considered “the nose of France.”

According to Deadline, William Abadie, the actor behind Antoine, had been promoted to a series regular for Emily in Paris Season 2. It sounds like that could mean we’re going to be getting a whole lot more drama with Antoine, Sylvie, and plenty of other love triangles. If that's the case, I am here for the messiness.

Emily In Paris Will Also Be Adding New Recurring Characters In Season 2

Besides some characters getting promoted to main characters, there will also be a couple of new characters added as well. Per the Deadline article from before, Lucien Laviscount, known for roles in Scream Queens and Snatched, has signed on for Season 2 of Emily in Paris in a recurring role.

Adding on Lucian, there are a couple of other new characters coming as well. According to Netflix Queue on Twitter, Jeremy O. Harris will play an iconic fashion designer on the show, and Arnaud Binard will guest star as a party boy owner of a popular Saint Tropez nightclub.

What these characters mean for the show as a whole is still a mystery, but regardless, I’m sure that they will be great additions and add some fun storylines.

Not Much Is Known Yet About The Plot Of Emily In Paris Season 2

Season 1 of Emily in Paris ended in every possible dramatic way, from love interests deciding to stick around and Emily just starting to get a hold of her life in Paris. What could possibly happen in Season 2? Well, turns out even Lily Collins, the star of Emily in Paris, couldn't say. 

In an interview with Deadline back in February, Lily Collins confirmed that she doesn’t know much about the plot yet for Season 2 of Emily in Paris, especially regarding the romance between her and possible love interests on the show.

Sounds like a whole lot of drama for Emily thus forward, but honestly, I have to agree with Lily Collins on this one – Emily and Gabriel are always a cute couple to ship, but I think it’s time for Emily to find a little bit of herself before finding love. Maybe we’ll get to see more of that in Season 2.

Sylvie Will Hopefully Be Expanded On More In Emily In Paris Season 2

Okay, I’m going to be honest – Sylvie was one of my favorite parts of Emily in Paris. There was just something that I loved about her, whether that be her hardened way of working with business or her vulnerability that she would show when she learned to trust someone.

And it seems that Darren Star, the creator of the show, likes her too because he wants to explore her character further in Season 2, as he revealed in an interview with Vanity Fair.

Look, Darren Star, if you see this, please talk more about her. We all love Sylvie and her hardworking self – I need to see more of her story as do the rest of us in Season 2 of Emily in Paris.

Darren Star Wants Emily To Explore More Of Paris In Emily In Paris

Paris is a diverse city with so much to offer, along with plenty of brilliant restaurants, beautiful spots of nature, and so much more. It would be nice if Emily really got to explore more of it in Season 2, and it seems that the creator also feels the same.

Per the interview with Vanity Fair from before, Darren Star also revealed that he wants Emily to explore more of Paris in general in Emily in Paris – not just the touristy parts or her job area.

Does that mean we might get to see Emily explore spots of Paris that are a bit lesser known? I’m eager to see.

But Emily Will Also Understand Paris More In Season 2

Even if Emily will (hopefully) be exploring Paris more throughout Season 2, the creator of the show reassured audiences that it won’t be the same girl from the beginning of the series that was just starting to learn about the city - and learn French - in an interview with Oprah Daily.

At this point, Emily has been in Paris for a little bit, so it’s only natural for her to understand the area a bit more. But even if she is becoming a resident of the city slowly, there’s no doubt that there will still be drama unfolding – and most likely Emily getting lost somewhere as well.

What are you looking forward to the most for Season 2 of Emily in Paris? The love triangles? The cringy social media posts? The fashion? Regardless, it’s sure to be an entertaining season when it drops – whenever that may be. Au revoir!

Netflix romantic dramedy Emily In Paris was a big hit when it first released last year. The streaming service was quick to give the series a second season renewal, and now as that production on Season 2 has begun, Netflix has announced even more big news about the show.

Even if Season 2 of Emily in Paris probably won't be ready for fans' streaming pleasure any time too soon, there is definitely something to celebrate when it comes to the popularity of the show. Just check out the Netflix announcement!

You read that right: 58 million people checked out Emily In Paris, which made it Netflix’s most popular comedy series of 2020! It’s no wonder Netflix renewed the series, which follows a 20-something Chicagoan who moves to Paris for an unexpected job opportunity. The success is also no surprise to those who know the works of creator, Darren Star, who is also behind Beverly Hills, 90210, Melrose Place, Sex and the City and Younger.

While Emily In Paris has proven successful, that wasn’t the case when the series first debuted. The series got blasted by Parisians for using clichés throughout the series, like smoking indoors and walking naked across the Alexandre III bridge. In an interview, one real-life Parisian called it a “parody of the nudity” used in campaigns from decades ago and is no longer reflective of France’s modern publicity. Meanwhile, French critics found Emily in Paris to be completely embarrassing and an inaccurate image of Paris. With the series starting production on Season 2, perhaps producers took those criticisms and are using them to look at the show from a different angle so they can more accurately portray Paris and its fellow Parisians. Or maybe more of what won so many viewers over the first time around!

The backlash did not stop Netflix from giving it a renewal, and from having 58 million fans watching the series. Some fans might have been worried Netflix would retract the renewal, as it has already done with a few shows due to COVID-19, but worry not, as the cast has officially started filming Season 2 of the series. With Emily In Paris filming overseas, it wasn’t officially known when the series would be able to start Season 2. But now that the show has started production, hopefully we’ll get some Season 2 content soon.

There isn’t any word on what will happen with Emily and the gang in the upcoming season, but if it’s anything like Season 1, there’s bound to be romance and dreams, and maybe even more pizza insults. There also isn’t any word on how many episodes Season 2 will have, but it’s possible it will have ten episodes just like Season 1. This fall/winter, Lily Collins has a significant presence on Netflix. In October audiences were introduced to her as the titular character in the new hit show Emily In Paris, and in just a couple weeks fans will be able to see her opposite Gary Oldman in David Fincher’s Mank. What you probably don’t know, however, is that doing both projects made her schedule rather crazy in the second half of last year, as they had some significant overlap.

I had the pleasure of interviewing Lily Collins last week during the virtual junket for Mank, and having noticed the production dates for the movie during my preparation I asked about how the schedule lined up with her work on Emily In Paris – and the short version of the answer I got was, “Not well.” As she explained, the effort to be a part of both productions really ran her ragged, as she was frequently making international flights back and forth between the United States and France. Remarking on the contrast between the film and the show, Collins said,

It generally takes about 11 hours to fly from Paris to Los Angeles, which is a hell of a long time in the air and a serious time zone change, and while most people like to decompress a bit after a trip like that, Lily Collins wasn’t given that luxury. Because production on Emily In Paris essentially halted when she wasn’t there, turnarounds had to be quick, and evidently she was helped by evidently having an active imagination.

Clearly it would be terrible if Lily Collins went through all that and then totally regretted the effort, but fortunately that wasn’t case. Instead, she is grateful to have had the opportunity to work with the creative minds at the head of each production, saying.

In Mank, which is David Fincher’s first feature since Gone Girl, Lily Collins plays Rita Alexander, who is employed as Herman Mankiewicz’s secretary while he recovers from a car accident and develops the script for what eventually becomes the cinema classic Citizen Kane. All of her scenes take place in 1940 and were shot on location in Victorville, California (where the actual events took place), and obviously that presented a very different on-set experience for the actor in contrast to Emily In Paris, which sees her playing an American millennial hired by a French marketing firm.

This contrast was actually something that Lily Collins was grateful for, though, as it better allowed her to compartmentalize the characters and approach them individually. She explained,

The first season of Emily In Paris (second season coming soon) is now streaming on Netflix, and we are now less than two weeks away from the online debut of Mank, which is premiering on the service December 4. Netflix has cancelled a lot of shows this year, including GLOW and The Society, both of which had previously received season renewals. Even beyond just 2020, however, the streaming service has garnered a reputation for cancelling series after only one season — I Am Not Okay with This, Spinning Out, and Away were among the ones to get cut this year alone. Thankfully, at least in theory, Netflix’s Global Head of TV Bela Bajaria has explained why the streamer cancels freshman series at such a high rate.

When compared to network and cable TV channels, Netflix comes off as an enigma of sorts. Whereas viewers can easily check up on, for example, CBS and NBC shows' ratings to predict chances of renewal, Netflix doesn’t release the viewing numbers for every one of its shows (and the way in which the views are counted has been called into question). In addition, Netflix execs tend to greenlight a lot more series than traditional networks without the traditional pilot process, which Bela Bajaria says plays a role in the number of cancellations. Here’s what she said during the Paley International Council Summit (via Deadline):

Netflix making straight-to-series orders for every original show was already an unusual tactic when it began, since TV networks have historically ordered test pilots before making decisions to pick up more episodes of particular series. In that vein, Netflix does greenlight a lot more original series per year compared to any single broadcast network or cable channel, which, as Bela Bajaria says, results in more cancellations after just one season.

Bela Bajaria added that the renewal rate for Netflix shows after two or more seasons is reportedly 67%. She cited The Crown and the comedy Grace and Frankie as examples of Netflix series that have been renewed for multiple seasons. That said, I’d argue that the number of series that actually get to have two seasons or more seems to be increasingly rare, and that Bajaria’s response doesn't directly address criticisms of the growing number of Netflix’s one-and-done series.

I also don’t think it helps that some Netflix subscribers have grown wary of becoming too attached to the service's original series in their first seasons, since the fear of cancellation always seems to be hanging in the air. Despite all of this, Netflix boss Ted Saranados cited the reason the streamer is judged so often by its cancellations is because it’s being “measured against the old way of doing things.” He, on the other hand, believes a show can be successful even if it only got one season.

It is official, everyone! Darren Star’s Emily in Paris has been renewed for Season 2 a little over a month after the show premiered on Netflix in October. What did Lily Collins and the rest of the cast make of the show’s renewal news? They had one word to sum it all up and they did it in a hilarious video wherein Collins and her co-stars all but burst with excitement.

While many Netflix shows have been cancelled in 2020, now there is another show that is safe. Emily in Paris follows Lily Collins’ Emily as she moves to Paris to pursue her career. It seems Lily Collins and the rest of Emily in Paris’ cast is excited about returning for Season 2, and who can blame them? To get to return to film a show underneath the bright lights of Paris has to add another layer of joy. Plus, it means that Darren Star will get to explore the vibes he teased before the official Season 2 renewal.

In essence, the Sex and the City and Emily in Paris creator hinted at Emily finding her place in the world she entered in the first season. Will she discover herself at the center of fewer controversies off-screen? Hopefully. Upon its release, Emily in Paris became the subject of an intense backlash from French critics, who took issue with the show’s portrayal of Parisians, and that is not where the drama ended.

One of the show’s French stars, Lucas Bravo, responded to the uproar, saying he thought critics were “right, in a way.” Emily in Paris also got slammed by a popular Chicago deep dish pizza restaurant after the show insulted it by name in the first episode. The Netflix show was not exactly making a lot of friends at the popular eatery.

So, between that and the French critics’ critique of the series, Emily was in some hot water. Her stylish outfits have survived until a second season. A premiere date is not known at this time. With television slowly yet surely returning to work on new seasons of various shows and saving Netflix money in the process, it will be interesting to see when Emily in Paris gets back in front of cameras.

Season 2 could be a while away. Thankfully, there will be a lot to look forward to when it returns. Ever since it first made its debut on Netflix in early October, the Lily Collins dramedy Emily in Paris has been a mainstay on the streaming service's Top 10 rundowns, with tons of subscribers tuning in to see Emily's fish-out-of-American-water story. Though U.S. audiences have been largely fine with everything about Season 1, Emily in Paris has attracted its fair share of criticisms from French viewers who have knocked the show for playing up old-hat stereotypes about France and its citizens. Show creator Darren Star has heard these complaints, and he's not apologizing.

Having also created such wildly popular shows such as Beverly Hills 90210, Melrose Place and Sex and the City, Darren Star is definitely used to achieving success while also facing harsh critics. This is a somewhat unique scenario, since so many of the negative reactions are coming from outside the U.S. Still, Star is sticking by Emily in Paris' creative choices, telling this to THR:

That's certainly an understandable answer by all means. When people enter into new experiences, they often seek out recognizable elements as a security buoy of sorts. In the case of Emily's first trip to Paris, she brought with her all of the clichés that she'd picked up throughout her life in the U.S., so she's obviously going to adhere to what she knows, even if it makes her look dorky and out of fashion.

Granted, Darren Star's "through Emily's eyes" answer doesn't logistically extend out to explain ALL of Emily in Paris' international tropes. In its first episode alone, Emily in Paris features such well-established (though not necessarily current) stereotypes such as "French people can't get enough cigarettes" and "French people are rude to English speakers." Plus, it kicks off a storyline in which Lily Collins' Emily waltzes into her new job and attempts to show her French colleagues and employers how to better their situation, despite not speaking French or having any grand insights into their way of life.

Sure, Darren Star's explanation fits when it comes to the show setting Emily up with the Eiffel Tower in the background, or having her walk around with a grocery bag full of baguettes or whatever. But when it comes to character actions and details that are independent of Emily's experiences, that's when Emily in Paris arguably falls into the trappings that sparked the criticisms.

Not that it was only French viewers who knocked Emily in Paris. The show also drew ire from some Americans for its deep-dish pizza conversation in the premiere, during which Emily insulted the iconic Chicago pizza restaurant Lou Malnati's, widely considered one of the premiere homes for that particular kind of pizza.

Interestingly enough, Darren Star hasn't really been knocked too hard for the character of Emily herself. Thus, it marks yet another one of the creator's series with at least one female lead at the center of everything. (If only Emily had a Carrie or a Samantha around to bounce her thoughts off of.) When asked what the appeal was of tackling yet another show from a woman's perspective, here's how Star answered:

So far, the Netflix series is just waiting to hear if it will return for a second season. Emily in Paris’ showrunner has sounded relatively hopeful on the topic of returning by sharing his ideas for where Emily would start heading if the show continued.

It is interesting for a French actor to share his thoughts on the backlash. For his part, Lucas Bravo seems to empathize with where critics are coming from after watching Season 1 following its October release. On the other hand, he also indicates that Emily in Paris would have a tough time showing all that Parisian culture has to offer. Is that a defense?

If there is a second season, it will be interesting to discover if aspects of the criticism are taken into account. Emily in Paris’ French backlash is not the only controversy it has caused since its release. The show also took a drubbing from the Chicago pizza restaurant that Emily insulted during its first episode.

Has it hurt the Netflix series’ international standing? Will having two controversies to its name ruin Emily in Paris’ chances of returning? Controversy did not end up keeping Insatiable from airing, although it's worth noting that show only lasted two seasons. As for Lily Collins, she is no stranger to being in controversial Netflix content, having starred in Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil, and Vile.

For now, the only way forward is for Emily in Paris to make some amends. Time will tell if Emily gets the chance. Emily in Paris may be finding an audience on Netflix, but not all viewers are happy with one of its digs. The new romantic dramedy from Sex and the City creator Darren Star took a shot at an iconic Chicago pizza restaurant by disparaging the deep dish destination. Now, the pizzeria is dishing it right back by slamming the show.

If you already tuned in to the first episode of the new Netflix show, then you know that Emily does not hold back when it comes to her taste in pizza. The series follows Lily Collins’ eponymous character as she moves to Paris for her job. Before long, she discovers that her French co-workers are not fans of deep dish pizza, to which she responds:

As you can imagine, Lou Malnati’s did not take the pizza dig well. Owner Marc Malnati had some choice words for Emily in Paris as the iconic Chicago pizzeria joins French critics in slamming the series. The slight is probably not the best thing for business, so Malnati clapped back with the following statement (via Variety)

Ouch. Marc Malnati has a point. Restauants have been hit hard by the coronavirus pandemic. Netflix users may wind up streaming Emily in Paris, hearing the disparaging remark, and deciding to take their deep dish desires elsewhere. The show may pride itself on being fashionably chic, but this comment is not a good look to me. Check this out:

To be fair to Emily in Paris -- the show was made well before the coronavirus pandemic shut down the television and movie industry, so it did not deliberately kick the pizza restaurant while it was down. In fact, as announced way back in September 2018, it was originally meant to air on the Paramount Network.

Emily in Paris supposed to air on Paramount Network in the summer of 2019. That did not happen, and now Netflix has its first season streaming instead. Cut to October, and Lou Malnati’s is fighting back against Emily in Paris’ deflating take on the restaurant. The skirmish bled over to Instagram, where the pizza eatery posted the following:

Well, Emily is in Paris, far away from the Windy City and the fury that she has caused there. Good thing Darren Star has Emily becoming enmeshed in the “fabric” of Paris if there is a Season 2! Considering everything that Lou Malnati’s mentioned, I hope Netflix has Lily Collins voice over the diss.

It would not erase the feelings it stirred. However, it could help lessen the blow and keep it from continuing to sting new viewers. Emily in Paris is one of the latest Netflix originals to premiere and it has made quite a name for itself already. The series stars Lily Collins as Emily, a Chicago marketing exec who’s hired to work at a Parisian firm to boost their social media presence. However, Emily in Paris is getting slammed by French critics and viewers who are notably displeased with the series’ outdated stereotypes.

The Netflix series is certainly not the first example of an American character landing in Paris. Devil Wears Prada, Gossip Girl, Sex and the City (which Emily in Paris’ Darren Star also created), and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel are among the projects that have been set in Paris (at least temporarily). Speaking to the New York Times, real-life Parisians blasted the clichés littered throughout Emily in Paris — from smoking indoors to walking naked across the Alexandre III bridge.

The latter is something Emily found to be sexist in the show, while the fictionalized French apparently did not. However, one real-life Parisian interviewed called it a “parody of the nudity” used in campaigns from decades ago and is no longer reflective of France’s modern publicity. Others simply found Emily in Paris to be exaggerated and ridiculous, especially when it came to Emily’s wardrobe choices and the fact that she didn’t speak a single word of French. However, Emily offered Parisians advice on how to make things better, which her boss didn't like.

Meanwhile, French critics were a bit more brutal in their assessments of the Netflix show. One reviewer on AlloCiné found Emily in Paris to be completely embarrassing and an inaccurate image of Paris, while another (via THR) considered it quite “deplorable” and wondered why French actors even bothered to be in the series. Another reviewer summed up what most Parisians and French critics didn’t like about the show. Here’s what they wrote:

As one would guess, not all French critics and viewers found Emily in Paris to be bad. One reviewer saw “a lot of humor in the exploitation of clichés” and the collision of Emily’s American lifestyle with that of the French. Despite some of the nicer reviews, however, it would seem that the Netflix series received a much more favorable reception from U.S. critics. The show currently has a 77% fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes and the social media response has been generally positive as well.

Darren Star, the popular producer behind such gems as Beverly Hills, 90210 and Younger, has been one of the TV creators hopping to Netflix recently. This week, his newest series Emily in Paris starring Lily Collins premiered and it has already been crushing out on the streamer’s Top 10 list. Given its popularity, a lot of people are asking whether or not Emily in Paris has been greenlighted for Season 2 already.

Honestly, if you take Darren Star’s statement at face value, the showrunner and show creator at least seems confident in his latest series and already has ideas for Season 2. He talked about a sequel season with O Magazine this week as part of the promotion for the new Netflix series. Without revealing too many spoilers – which is great for those of use who may not have binged the whole series yet – he had this to say about Season 2:

So, that seems to indicate more is coming, right? Not so fast. Netflix can be a fickle company by nature and has more recently cancelled some shows that have seemingly had avid fanbases. (Not to mention the show the streamer cancelled that had already been picked up for another season, complicating matters further.) Fascinatingly, Emily in Paris was initially supposed to be Paramount Network original, like Yellowstone, but that network recently shifted strategies around original fare and will be honing in more on movies than TV programs moving forward.

So, Will Emily In Paris Get Renewed For Season 2?

Netflix ultimately picked the show up, but in fact, Emily in Paris has not been renewed for Season 2 yet. It’s worth noting that people are clearly champing at the bit to find out whether or not the rom-com does get a second season. It should help that people are talking about the show online and that it’s been popular on the subscription streamer since its release, ranking #2 in the Top 10 list at the time of this writing. There are even a slew of TikTok videos devoted to the show.

If you haven’t watched Emily in Paris, its delightful premise has Lily Collins playing a Midwestern marketer who shifts her life to Paris. Darren Star shows are generally fun watches, but this one gets a special boost simply because it’s a show coming out right now about a location most of us can’t even travel to currently thanks to it being 2020.

Ten episodes of Emily in Paris were produced for Season 1 of the hit rom-com series. If you’ve already plowed through those and haven’t watched Darren Star’s other series Younger yet, I highly suggest that as your next watch. It's a program that has also shuffled around from TV Land to Paramount Network, but it can also be streamed on Hulu.

Network TV's standard fall season got completely shaken up in 2020, and is largely being spearheaded by animated projects that were able to continue production throughout COVID filming lockdowns. However, Netflix continues to be a source of new entertainment on a weekly basis, and that plan isn't changing at all for October. In fact, the streaming giant announced an abundance of original TV shows that will be making promising debuts and highly anticipated returns throughout the month. No tricks here; it's all treats.

Emily In Paris - 10/2

The Mortal Instruments and The Last Tycoon vet Lily Collins is making her return to television for the new dramedy Emily in Paris, which was created by Beverly Hills 90210 and Sex and the City mastermind Darren Star. This fish-out-of-water tale sees Collins' character as an American who takes a job opportunity in Paris and faces all the challenges and culture shock that can be expected. Given how well Star's projects tend to do, especially with sharp female leads, Emily in Paris could be an excellent streaming sojourn for viewers wishing for their own trips around the globe.

Song Exploder - 10/2

Based on the excellent podcast created by (and hosted by) Hrishikesh Hirway, Song Exploder is bringing its in-depth music exploration to the small screen. With 20 Feet from Stardom director Morgan Neville also behind the scenes, Song Exploder's first season will feature episodes delving into the creative process behind hit songs such as Alicia Keys' "3 Hour Drive," R.E.M.'s "Losing My Religion," Ty Dolla $ign's "LA," and Lin-Manuel Miranda's Hamilton track "Wait for It." Hirway is known for getting great stories from his guests, so expect no less from this live-action expansion.

Deaf U - 10/9

The docuseries Deaf U – whose punny title somehow went over my head for far too long after it was first announced – centers on a core group of deaf students at Washington D.C.'s Gallaudet University, which is a private college that specifically provides education for the deaf and hard-of-hearing. The show itself doesn't necessarily look too different from other reality shows of this nature, but it's the subject matter that makes it stand out. It should be interesting and informative to see how the show handles all the stereotypical "talking head" shots that are inherent to the documentary format.

The Haunting of Bly Manor - 10/9

Netflix's The Haunting of Hill House is one of the greatest and most methodically crafted horror TV shows of all time, and creator Mike Flanagan is back (albeit in a lesser capacity) with the second season of this delightfully ghastly anthology. The Haunting of Bly Manor takes place in 1980s England and focuses on an American nanny who gets hired to care for a pair of siblings in the titular residence, only nothing is as it seems with this location and its inhabitants. With returning Hill House cast members such as Henry Thomas and Victoria Pedretti, this new season is inspired by the works of Henry James, and will likely be exactly what the Halloween season needs.

The Cabin with Bert Kreischer - 10/13

Stand-up comedian and travel TV star Bert Kreischer has already bolstered his ever-growing audience with previous Netflix stand-up specials, but his next project The Cabin is a completely different kind of show. In the five-episode docuseries, Kreischer attempts to cleanse his mind, body and soul with a cabin retreat, where celebrity guests join him in taking on weird therapy treatments, the wonders of nature, and strenuous physical challenges – all in the name of laughter, of course. Guest will include black-ish's Anthony Anderson, Harley Quinn's Kaley Cuoco, Caitlyn Jenner and lots of other stand-up faves.

Social Distance - 10/15

While many TV viewers are no doubt tired of seeing remotely produced projects involving celebs staring directly into webcams, Netflix's upcoming anthology series Social Distance might reverse that specific sense of fatigue. (Or possibly inflame it, I guess.) Social Distance will be a darkly comedic look at people's need to stay connected to one another while also needing to stay apart, and will feature such stars as Scandal's Guillermo Díaz, Evil's Mike Colter, Love, Victor's Isabella Ferreira, Orange Is the New Black's Danielle Brooks and many more. For my (monthly subscription) money, the more absurd things get, the better.

Grand Army - 10/16

On paper, Grand Army is set up to be one of Netflix's biggest diversity-focused projects of the year. The teen-skewing drama centers on five students attending the largest public high school in Brooklyn, and digs into the respective and shared struggles that are often inherent with being born as a minority in the U.S. But only time will tell how powerful this project might be, since it has already faced some backlashing. Not only was the trailer widely criticized online for only using its minority characters for "poverty porn," but several writers of color went public over quitting the show due to alleged racist exploitation and abusive behavior. Expect more drama both on and off the screen from Grand Army.

The Last Kids on Earth: Book 3 - 10/16

Based on the bestselling YA novels from author Max Brallier, The Last Kids on Earth's TV show is a fun and frantic sci-fi adventure for viewers of all ages, and the highly anticipated Book 3 will follow up on the twists that capped off Book 2, no doubt in ways that will put Nick Wolfhard's Jack and his friends in monster-filled peril. With a voice cast that also includes such greats as Mark Hamill, Bruce Campbell, Catherine O'Hara, Rosario Dawson, Keith David and more, The Last Kids on Earth is solid October fare for those who don't like to overload on the horror.

Unsolved Mysteries Volume 2 - 10/19

Following the successful launch of its first batch of newly formatted episodes, Unsolved Mysteries is returning to Netflix for a handful of new-to-viewers cases that will again turn audiences into amateur sleuths. The first season was initially a mainstay in Netflix's Top 10 TV shows, no doubt capitalizing on Netflix's growing library of true crime originals that was heavily influenced by the success of Making a Murderer. Though not quite as creepy as the Robert Stack-hosted original run, Netflix's Unsolved Mysteries will definitely still bring the chills for Volume 2.

My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman Season 3 - 10/21

This next entry needs no special reason for being included here, as the David Letterman-hosted interview series has offered some of the most interesting celebrity discussions out there. Eschewing the promotion-heavy nature of late night talk shows, My Next Guest digs deeper into the lives and motivations of its guests, and Season 3 will put the beard-friendly Letterman up close and personal with beloved entertainers such as Dave Chappelle, Robert Downey Jr., Lizzo and more. I hope to all that is holy that Lizzo gets Letterman to team up on a "Tempo" karaoke performance.

Barbarians - 10/23

Even though Vikings creator Michael Hirst already has his Valhalla spinoff coming to Netflix after the flagship series' end, audiences can't get enough of properly budgeted historical epics that go heavy on the action. It's not quite clear yet if the upcoming German drama Barbarians will quench that particular TV thirst, but the show's centers on Germanic warriors fighting to limit the Roman Empire's spread across Europe, and directly focuses on three different characters who are tied into the Battle of the Teutoburg Forest. Too bad Travis Fimmel and Katheryn Winnick aren't involved.

The Queen's Gambit - 10/23

I know, I know, everybody expects lists like these to contain a 1950s set drama from an Oscar-nominated writer/director that focuses on a young woman's dual talents for playing chess and getting fucked up. So yes, The Queen's Gambit is indeed that show. From Minority Report and Logan screenwriter Scott Frank, and based on Walter Tevis' novel, this limited series stars Anya Taylor-Joy as the glamorous and issue-laden Beth Harmon, who attempts to disrupt the status quo in the male-dominated world of competitive chess, all while dealing with far less elegant obsessions and addictions.

Netflix's October slate also contains other potentially great releases such as: the violent drama Oktoberfest: Beer & Blood (10/1); Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts' third and final season (10/12); the alt-history mystery La Révolution (10/16); the dancing docuseries Move (10/23); the stand-up special Sarah Cooper: Everything's Fine (10/27); and Phil Rosenthal's food & travel show Somebody Feed Phil Season 4. It's almost strange that there aren't more adult-geared Halloween releases, but maybe the real world has been scary enough in 2020 that we don't need anything else.
