Many woke up this morning to the very sad news that Sam Neill died at the age of 78. The New Zealand-born actor’s passing was announced by his family on social media and, quite frankly, it’s hard to believe the beloved thespian is no longer with us. Fans and film pundits alike have since been paying tribute to the late Jurassic Universe star. And, unsurprisingly, a number of Neill’s former collaborators are doing the same, as Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum and a host of others have shared incredibly kind words about him.

Laura Dern played the Dr. Ellie Sattler to Sam Neill’s Dr. Alan Grant in the Jurassic movies, and the two had incredible on-screen chemistry. Aside from their work, though, Neill and Dern forged a personal friendship, and it was also delightful to see them reunite. Dern reacted to Neill’s death via a statement shared with Variety, and the Oscar winner’s sweet thoughts are so sweet:

Both Dern and Neill had the opportunity to reprise their roles as Sattler and Grant for 2022’s Jurassic World Dominion years after they last appeared in the franchise in 2001’s Jurassic Park III. In the more recent movie, directed by Colin Trevorrow, the pair were also joined by co-star Jeff Goldblum, who famously played Dr. Ian Malcolm. Goldblum reacted to Neill’s death on Instagram, sharing a still from JP and penning a brief, but loving, message in honor of his buddy:

Neill’s exact cause of death has not been released, though it’s been reported that he was cancer-free after having been diagnosed with a form of blood cancer in 2022. The following year, Goldblum spoke highly of Neill and said that he was doing well and that they had been in “constant” contact. Also joining this recent course of tributes for Neill was Chris Pratt, who worked with Neill on J-World Dominion. The Owen Grady actor said this about his former co-star on his Instagram story:

Additionally, another person to memorialize Sam Neill was Steven Spielberg, who directed him in the all-time classic Jurassic Park. Spielberg released a statement that was shared with Variety and said he was “saddened” by Neill’s death. Spielberg shared the following:

Jurassic franchise producer Frank Marshall also reached out in the aftermath of Neill’s death. On X, the producer shared a still of a camera monitor shot from a previous shoot and said this:

Sam Neill’s body of work is quite impressive and extends beyond the Jurassic movies. Sleeping Dogs (his film debut), Possession, The Hunt for Red October, The Piano and Event Horizon are just a few of the titles in his filmography. Not only that, but Neill also appeared on shows like Peaky Blinders and The Tudors. Neill left an indelible mark due to his body of work and, as Spielberg asserted he won’t be forgotten as an artist. Though I’d wager those who knew him will remember him fondly for being a great human being.

Every Halloween without fail, you’ll probably see someone channeling Marty McFly’s signature look from Back To The Future. And, as you can imagine the look itself went through a lot of iterations before reaching its final form. But, did you know Michael J. Fox was the person behind Marty’s iconic Nikes? But, it didn’t come without a big “dilemma” that happened behind the scenes before Marty could officially wear the shoes for the classic movie that just turned 40.

Michael J. Fox has shared a bunch of Back To The Future stories in his new book, Future Boy, from why he hated driving the DeLorean to one inconsistency about the movie’s time travel. In the memoir, he also dug into the origin of Marty’s Nikes. In his words:

If you’re not aware, Fox was actually a recast on Back To The Future after Eric Stoltz was initially chosen for the role, and actually even played the role for almost two months. Future Boy has Fox recollecting what it was like to take the role after production had already began, and while simultaneously shooting his sitcom, Family Ties.

In the book, Fox recalled going to a fitting for Marty McFly when the original shoes for the character had been accidentally left at the soundstage. The actor said he suggested the Nikes already around his toes following the snafu, which he describes as his “go-to sneaks” at the time that were perfect for “skateboarding and duckwalking and kicking around – everything Marty needed to do”. He continued:

It totally makes sense that production would need a few pairs of Marty’s shoes in order to land on the look, but that initially posed a problem considering his specific pair were out of print. Determined to go with Fox’s pick of sneakers, producer Frank Marshall made some calls to Nike to figure out if there was a workaround.

He ended up getting in touch with a woman named Pam McConnell, who was running a brand new product placement department at the headquarters in Portland, Oregon. Here’s what happened next:

What a great story! There’s nothing like the power of movies (and marketing) to get Nikes to move some mountains to make Fox’s favorite shoes become Marty’s shoes. It was a good call from Nike too, considering Back To The Future would become one of the best 80s movies, and his sequel would include one of those famous movie futuristic inventions of Nikes with the power laces which the company made happen in 2015 (under a very limited run).

There's been much discussion regarding Jurassic World Rebirth, the fourth film in the franchise and the seventh installment in the overall Jurassic Park saga. While many of the finer details on the dino-filled flick have mostly been kept under wraps, some story details have been divulged. Earlier this summer, it was also confirmed by franchise producer Frank Marshall that J-World 4 filming was ramping up. Keeping up with his trend of providing updates, Marshall has now confirmed that the film has officially wrapped.

Frank Marshall teased the star of production this past June when he shared a photo from his “office” – the stunning Phulay Bay, which is a Ritz-Carlton Reserve. The gorgeous snapshot he showed off was enough to make any fan – or person in need of a vacation – green with envy. When confirming the completion of filming, the Raiders of the Lost Ark producer went for a considerably less grandiose approach. He opted to share a pic of a sweet little souvenir, which you can see in the Instagram post below:

The cap appears to be a memento for crew members and may have even been a wrap gift. Regardless, that’s a cool little trinket that I’d personally love to have myself. I’d imagine that the Seabiscuit producer has plenty of fun keepsakes like this one, which makes this movie aficionado all the more envious. That aside, though, this post should come as welcome news to anyone who’s anticipating the upcoming Jurassic World movie. With the cameras no longer rolling, it means the movie will enter post production and move a step closer to completion.

A strong team has been assembled for the latest entry in the blockbuster series – both in front and behind the camera. Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey, Rupert Friend, Ed Skrein and Mahershala Ali are among the ensemble. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’s Gareth Edwards directs from a script written by legacy talent David Koepp. This movie marks the first Jurassic film that Koepp has been credited with penning since 1997’s The Lost World. As a whole, this combination of collaborators is surely exciting and should help bolster the upcoming sequel.

In June, the first plot details for J-World 4 were released, with the basic premise being that three adults and three teens find themselves stranded on a dinosaur-inhabited island. More official Rebirth plot details dropped in August, which confirmed that the movie takes place five years after the events of 2022’s Dominion, at which point the dinosaur population is starting to die out. Amid that, a covert ops team is tasked with obtaining genetic material from three powerful dinosaurs. But, after saving a family from a failed sailing expedition, both groups find themselves on an island holding a dark secret.

What isn’t a secret is that I’m curious to see what this film has to offer and wonder if it’ll manage to recapture the spirit of the saga’s earlier entries. On that note, fans have quite a wait before they’ll be able to see the movie in its entirety. Nevertheless, thanks to Frank Marshall’s new post, I’m now comforted by the knowledge that the flick is now officially in the can.

Jurassic World Rebirth is set to storm into theaters on July 2 as part of the 2025 movie schedule. Those who want to prepare themselves for the film should buckle down and read up on the ins and outs of the Jurassic Park Universe.

As the buzz around the forthcoming Jurassic World 4 intensifies, fans are eager for any tidbits about the next installment in the Jurassic Park universe of films. Recently, the movie’s producer, Frank Marshall, gave us a behind-the-scenes glimpse of the incredible view from his "office." Marshall shared an image on social media of where he gets to work. And, honestly, it's giving me a severe case of FOMO.

Sharing a stunning photo on Instagram, Frank Marshall showcased the breathtaking Phulay Bay, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve, which presumably will serve as an idyllic backdrop for the production of Jurassic World 4. The image, which you can see embedded below, is drenched in vibrant blues and tranquil serenity -- and it has me longing for a taste of the paradisiacal escape:

The legendary filmmaker captioned the post with a laid-back “Just another day at the office...” The photo shows a pristine beach with crystal-clear waters and dramatic rock formations in the background. It actually makes it hard to believe that this serene paradise is seemingly the backdrop for such an action-packed entry in the 2025 movie schedule.

Few specifics have been released about the next chapter in the beloved series of dinosaur-centric flicks. However, some small story details were recently, and it sounds like the “new Jurassic era” is taking a cue from the classic trilogy. It’s rumored to focus on three adults and three teens getting stuck on the island. 

There's still no information about where this particular entry will land in the Jurassic  timeline or whether or not World stars like Bryce Dallas Howard and Chris Pratt will return. Still, we know Scarlett Johansson has confirmed her involvement in the flick, and Mahershala Ali is lined up to join the cast. It was also recently revealed the movie is bringing back legacy talent when it comes to its writer. OG JP trilogy scribe David Koepp penned the new script, so there are a lot of reasons to be stoked about J-World 4. 

The original film is considered one of the best sci-fi movies of all time so, when announced, understandably, Jurassic World had some T-Rex-sized shoes to fill. However, the series has gone on to be a massive success, with its blend of nostalgia, cutting-edge CGI and heart-pounding action. While each consecutive movie has brought in less at the box office, the franchise surely has some more juice left in it, and with every bit of news coming out of the production of J-World 4, I’m getting more and more excited as a long-time fan of the franchise. 

As production ramps up for the fourth installment, my expectations are sky-high. And Frank Marshall’s photo not only highlights the stunning locations being used for filming but also serves as a reminder of the scale and ambition of these giants of the cinema. In time, we'll see what Marshall and his colleagues are cooking up. Now, if you'll excuse me, I've got to book a tropical vacation ASAP.

The first three Indiana Jones movies saw Dr. Henry Jones Jr. coming into contact with powerful religious artifacts, i.e. the Ark of the Covenant in Raiders of the Lost Ark, the Sankara Stones in The Temple of Doom and the Holy Grail in The Last Crusade. Then The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull came along and went full sci-fi by having Harrison Ford’s character witness an alien from another dimension. 15 years later, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is bringing time travel into the franchise, and producer Frank Marshall addressed how the 2023 new movie release will explore this concept.

The Dial of Destiny trailer released in April teased the use of time travel with a line of dialogue from Mads Mikkelsen’s Jürgen Voller, the main antagonist: “Hitler made mistakes, and with this, I will correct them all.” Sure enough, Marshall explained to SFX Magazine how the dial can be used to change the timeline, but don’t go thinking this particular artifact will stand out like a sore thumb compared to its predecessors. In his words:

While the origins of the dial will be saved for the movie itself, it should be pretty clear that it getting in the hands of a former Nazi is bad news. Although The Dial of Destiny opens with a World War II-set action sequence featuring a digitally de-aged Harrison Ford, the main storyline takes place in 1969, when Jürgen Voller has been recruited to NASA’s moon landing program. As could be inferred, Frank Marshall made it clear that Voller intends to use the dial to go back and change the timeline so that Nazi Germany won the war. As for whether using the dial qualifies as this franchise delving back into sci-fi, which was among the polarizing elements of The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, the producer had this to say:

One has to wonder if the temptation to alter time will also impact our main protagonist. After all, with such an eventful life, there are surely things Indy would like to change from his past, but fingers crossed he’s wise enough to know that it’s not worth the risk to reality. What we will see the fedora-wearing and whip-wielding archaeologist do is team up with his goddaughter, Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s Helena, to find the dial, while Jürgen Voller will be aided in his mission by Boyd Holbrook’s Klaber. The Dial of Destiny’s cast also includes John Rhys-Davies, Antonio Banderas, Toby Jones, Shaunette Renée Wilson and Thomas Kretschmann, among others. James Mangold directed the feature and co-wrote the script with Jez Butterworth, John-Henry Butterworth and David Koepp.

After what feels like the world's longest development process, Indiana Jones 5 is officially in the can. Even better, cast news is slowly trickling out to get us even more excited about what's to come for our favorite archeologist. Not only did we get some great reunions with the cast and crew, but there's also new information about Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s character in the long-awaited sequel.

Franchise producer Frank Marshall gave fans a sneak peak into Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s new character on Twitter while also sharing great cast photos. We already knew her character's name is Helena. However, it turns out she has a sentimental connection to Indiana Jones. Marshall revealed:

This announcement confirmation came after the Indiana Jones 5 cast made an appearance at Disney's 2022 D23 Expo, a media event where Disney reveals information on movies, TV shows, theme parks and more. It's an exciting reveal and one that should make this story that much more personal. I'm already imaging the kind of banter that the two will have in the movie. During the hoopla, Harrison Ford and Phoebe Waller-Bridge got together for a photo opportunity that you can check out down below: 

While that pic was cool enough, the pair of stars were joined by a few other notable Hollywood titans. Also present at D23 were Frank Marshall, producer and Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy and director/co-writer James Mangold. Check out the Indy crew in the group shot down below:

And if that weren't cool enough, there was also another reunion. Harrison Ford crossed paths with Ke Huy Quan (who played Short Round in Temple of Doom) decades after having worked together. All of these pics are great, but there's just something about seeing a new face in the franchise. Since her massive success with the Amazon Prime series, Fleabag, Phoebe Waller-Bridge has been one of the most sought after writer/actors. She wrote the script for No Time to Die and starred in Solo: A Star Wars Story. She is currently writing another streaming series for Amazon and is attached to the John Krasinski directed film, Imaginary Friends. I love that she took time out of her busy schedule to garner fan excitement for the final installment in the action/adventure franchise. And I'm sure hanging out with Harrison Ford is a great bonus, too.

Disney also showed exclusive footage of the new Indiana Jones film to lucky attendees at the convention. It sounds absolutely incredible, with adventure and mystery being at the heart of the proceedings it seems. Based on such a terrific preview, it sounds like Indy 5 should be worth the delays. John Williams also recently debuted some of the score for the film, which is how the Helena's name was revealed. The track has a nostalgic and adventurous feel, something we tend to expect from Williams. Hopefully, the film delights longtime fans of the franchise as well as new viewers who have yet to see Harrison Ford's seasoned explorer in action. I'm pump for that first trailer and can't wait to see more of Phoebe Waller-Bridge as well.

Another end of an era is coming for Harrison Ford. In the latter half of the 2010s, we watched him make his final appearances as Han Solo in Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, respectively, and next year, Indiana Jones 5 will deliver the expected finale for his run as the adventuring archaeologist. Producer Frank Marshall recently carved out some time to hype the upcoming movie, but it resulted in him being roasted by ALF. Yes, that ALF.

Indiana Jones 5 is slated for June 30, 2023, so to commemorate one year to go until its release in theaters, Frank Marshall, who’s been involved with the Indiana Jones franchise since the beginning, tweeted a picture of Indy’s iconic fedora. Here’s what ALF, or rather, the verified Twitter account representing the beloved character who led his own sitcom from 1986 to 1990, had to say:

Ouch! That’s a solid burn, though now I’m curious what ALF thinks about the Indiana Jones franchise as a whole. Is he just not a fan in general, or was the alien from the planet Melmac who’s also known as Gordon Shumway disappointed by what he saw in 2008’s Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull? That is arguably the most polarizing entry in the Harrison Ford-led film series, so is ALF concerned that Indiana Jones 5 will perform similarly? I’m giving this way too much thought, aren’t I?

Quite frankly, there’s still a lot we don’t know about what Indiana Jones 5 holds in store, so I don’t blame the people who didn’t like Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull being skeptical. Still, Frank Marshall said in June that this is a “great story,” and that he thinks people will be “very happy with this movie.” I’d be remiss if I also didn’t mention that Indiana Jones 5 might end up being the last movie that John Williams scores. If that ends up happening, that’s certainly a big way for this flick to stand out from its predecessors, and on top of Steven Spielberg not sitting in the director’s chair and James Mangold inheriting helming duties.

While the public remains lacking in Indiana Jones 5 story details, something that’s not mysterious is the movie’s lineup of actors, although none of their characters have been officially identified yet. Harrison Ford is joined in the Indiana Jones 5 cast by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Mads Mikkelsen, Thomas Kretschmann, Boyd Holbrook, Shaunette Renée Wilson, Toby Jones, Antonio Banderas and Olivier Ritchiers. The movie began principal photography in June 2021 and wrapped this past February.

It’s been a minute since we last saw Indiana Jones on the big screen, with 2008’s Kingdom of the Crystal Skull proving to be a polarizing entry in the film series. But that didn’t deter Lucasfilm from taking another bite out of this franchise apple, and following years of delays and setbacks, Indiana Jones 5 is on track to be released as part of 2023’s film slate. While there’s still a lot we don’t know about Harrison Ford’s next outing as the adventuring archaeologist, producer Frank Marshall provided an enticing update on the sequel.

Frank Marshall has been part of the Indiana Jones franchise since the beginning, having produced Raiders of the Lost Ark and Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, and executive produced Temple of Doom and The Last Crusade. As far as Indiana Jones 5 goes, Marshall is assuring fans that the long wait for this movie will be worth the wait, telling A.Frame:

Hopefully Frank Marshall’s words hype up the Indiana Jones fans a little more, as they've been hearing talk about Indiana Jones 5 since shortly after Kingdom of the Crystal Skull came out. This movie has been in development for so long that Lucasfilm is now owned by Disney. Oh sure, we’ve had plenty of Star Wars movies and TV shows delivered from the Mouse House following that acquisition, but it’s been quite the journey getting to another Indiana Jones movie (there was a time when it was supposed to come out as early as July 2019). But as Marshall sees it, Indiana Jones 5 will deliver the goods, and there’s only a little over a year to go before we see the final product.

One big way Indiana Jones 5 will stand out from its predecessors is a directorial change. After helming the first four movies, Steven Spielberg passed the directing reins to Logan and Ford V Ferrari’s James Mangold, though Spielberg is still attached as an executive producer. Mangold also worked on the script with Jez and John-Henry Butterworth, and this is the first Indiana Jones movie to not have a story hashed out by George Lucas. Plot details remain shrouded in secrecy, but we did get our first look at Indiana Jones 5 at Star Wars Celebration in late May.

As far as on-camera talent goes, Harrison Ford is the only familiar face who’s confirmed to return for Indiana Jones 5, though back in January 2021, John Rhys-Davies, who played Sallah in Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Last Crusade, expressed interest in appearing. The lineup of newcomers to the Indiana Jones world includes Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Mads Mikkelsen, Thomas Kretschmann, Boyd Holbrook, Shaunette Renée Wilson, Toby Jones, Olivier Richters and Antonio Banderas, the latter of whom recently shared his reaction to seeing Ford on the Indiana Jones 5 set for the first time. None of their characters have been officially identified yet.

The Harrison Ford-led Indiana Jones 5 is one of the most anticipated films of 2022, so it’s no surprise that many fans have been closely checking for updates on James Mangold’s film. Just a few days ago, producer Frank Marshall revealed that production was in the “home stretch.” Well, it would seem the cast and crew have made it though, as both Mangold and Marshall have confirmed that principal photography has been completed. With this, both found apt ways to celebrate the milestone. 

The two creatives both took to Twitter to announce the end of filming this weekend. James Mangold marked the occasion with a cheeky post. In it, he used an iconic still to signify the end of the shoot and the beginning of post-production. Check out the post down below:

The image is from the third act of 1981’s Raiders of the Lost Ark, during which the Ark of the Covenant kills and consumes René Belloq and his army of Nazis. I couldn’t think of a better way for the director to commemorate this achievement. However, I must say that Frank Marshall comes close with his Twitter post. In it, he shared a photo of a sweet production cap and a brief caption. (And now, I really wish I had one of those caps myself.) See for yourself: 

This has to be a particularly auspicious moment for the veteran producer who has been with the franchise since before Steven Spielberg even started rolling on Raiders. Though his and the director’s posts are relatively subdued, it wouldn’t be surprising to think that both are incredibly pleased with the work they’ve done. 

The Indy film, which has yet to have its official title announced, has seen its fair share of ups and downs since it kicked off filming with Harrison Ford back in June 2021. A few weeks into production, Ford suffered a shoulder injury and had to step back from production for several months. Around the same time of the injury, the shoot generated complaints from homeowners while filming occurred in an East London neighborhood. And by July, a crew member had also sustained an injury while filming a chase sequence. Thankfully, though, the drama began to subside by early November.

Amid the shoot, fans had a number of questions about the upcoming action/adventure flick. Not much was revealed in the way of heavy spoilers, though a few small details did leak. For example, it would appear that the movie will utilize some familiar villains. And from a filmmaking standpoint, fans also learned that James Mangold and co. were going to some wild lengths to get Harrison Ford’s stunts done.

It’s going to be a while before cinema’s most iconic adventurer is back in action on the big screen, as Disney delayed the film to 2023 amid a scheduling overhaul. The wait is going to be tough but, considering James Mangold and Frank Marshall’s track records, I’m confident it’ll be worth it.

Of all the upcoming film projects that fans have been waiting years to see, few are as exciting as Indiana Jones 5. It’s a movie that we never thought we’d see, and while the release date has continued to see delays, production on the movie has really been happening. And now comes word that it is nearly done, as producer Frank Marshall says the movie is now in the “home stretch.”

Marshall posted a picture of a sign at Pinewood Studios to Twitter, where the movie is currently filming. The text reads simply “home stretch” with the Indiana Jones hashtag just to make sure that we all know what movie he is talking about. While we don’t know exactly how much time is left in filming based on this, the tweet was posted on Sunday, so we could be looking at the final week of principal photography.

Back on New Year’s Day director James Mangold had said that Indiana Jones 5 had about a month of filming left, and clearly it has taken a bit longer that to get the production done. But with all the issues that the pandemic has caused with all movie productions, as well as unrelated tragedies this movie has dealt with, being only a month behind schedule is almost nothing.

And since Indiana Jones 5 has seen its release date delayed even further since the movie went into production, it’s not like the film is in that much of a rush. The movie was set to open in July of this year, but that was going to be a tall order considering post-production is likely going to take time. The film is now set to open in June of 2023, which should give the production plenty of time for post-production as well as reshoots that will almost certainly be needed as they are a part of most blockbuster productions of this scale.

Of course, that delay also means it will be that much longer before we ever really see anything from the new movie. With a release date next summer we likely won’t see the first trailer for Indiana Jones 5 until the end of this year. And there’s a good chance we won’t even know what the movie is called until we get there. The official title will likely give us a pretty strong hint as to what the movie is about, so Disney won’t want to reveal it until the time is right.

Between the fact that Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, wasn’t that warmly received by many fans, despite being one of the highest grossing movies of 2008, and the fact that it’s been over a decade since the last movie, and Harrison Ford isn’t getting any younger, nobody knows quite what to expect from this next Indiana Jones adventure, but the fact that it will be an Indiana Jones adventure will be enough for most fans.   

The 2022 Winter Olympic Games are nearly upon us and, with that, comes a selection of cool content to get fans pumped for the event. One production that’s been released this year is Picabo, which centers on famed skier and Olympic gold medalist Picabo Street. The doc comes from legendary producer and director Frank Marshall, but he wasn’t alone in the endeavor. Marshall was joined by none other than skiing legend Lindsey Vonn, who served as both co-director and producer. And just recently, Marshall opened up about landing the project and teaming up with Vonn.

Those who know Frank Marshall are probably aware that he’s done just about everything at this point in his career. The seasoned producer has helped oversee the widely watched Indiana Jones franchise since it kicked off with Raiders of the Lost Ark in the ‘80s and also helped reinvigorate Matt Damon’s Bourne franchise. However, he’s also emerged as a skilled documentarian, having helmed the Emmy-winning The Bee Gees: How Can You Mend a Broken Heart just a few years ago. When I recently spoke to him over the phone about choosing Picabo as his follow-up, he revealed that it was Lindsey Vonn who brought the idea to his attention:

Most know Lindsey Vonn as a former world-class athlete, who has amassed a number of accolades, including an Olympic gold medal. In addition, she takes the time to promote worthy causes and increase public interest in skiing. But as Frank Marshall explained, she’s also proven to be a proficient filmmaker. Marshall went on to break down what Vonn brought to their movie on the creative side of things, particularly one key element relating to the film's subject:

The interview between the two skiers is indeed quite compelling and, as the co-director explains, it arguably helped Picabo Street to open up a bit more. And that’s definitely a good thing, considering that Street is one of the most interesting athletes the Olympics have ever seen. The Idaho native’s determination and love of skiing propelled her to greatness within the sport. While she experienced her share of professional (and personal) setbacks as well, she managed to persevere and earned her place among the all-time greats in the sport. Five years ago, Jurassic World brought us a whole new generation of Jurassic Park movies, revealing what things might have been like if they actually made a theme park with dinosaurs. Jurassic World: Dominion (the third in the trilogy) on its way, it looks like the threequel isn’t the end, according to its producer.

Anytime a trilogy comes to an end, most fans wonder if they’ll end it, continue the story, or just outright reboot it. Now, in an interview with Collider, producer Frank Marshall has said the Jurassic World stories will continue. Here’s his explanation why:

In the early days of the Jurassic Park mythos, the dinosaurs were mostly contained on the island. That’s always been the allure of the stories, being able to travel to a land before time began. But after the events of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, the dinosaurs are now among us and the lost world has come home. It looks like Frank Marshall and the Jurassic World filmmakers are leaning in to that concept, potentially making more stories based around what that might look like.

Of course, they’ve still got to wrap production for Jurassic World: Dominion first. As Frank Marshall alluded, earlier this year Jurassic World: Dominion shut down filming due to the coronavirus pandemic. That halt in production could potentially be costing the film somewhere around $300,000 a day.

Despite this, director Colin Trevorrow has been hard at work while at home. In April, he shared an Instagram photo of his computer screen, revealing he’s been working on footage of Jurassic World: Dominion.

Even though production for Jurassic World: Dominion has been shut down, original Jurassic Park actor Sam Neill commented recently that filming could restart soon. He said he’s scheduled to come into Pinewood studios early in the morning and that all the sets are ready and waiting.

Sam Neill's return to the Jurassic franchise is a long time coming and is sure to excite moviegoers. When it was announced that Jurassic World: Dominion is officially bringing back the original Jurassic Park stars, Sam Neill, Laura Dern, and Jeff Goldblum, it was one of the most exciting things any Jurassic Park fan could hear about the upcoming sequel.

While plot details for Jurassic World: Dominion are sparse, it’s been assumed the story will revolve around finding and returning the loose dinosaurs. If that is indeed what the story will be about, it sounds like our heroes won’t be very successful if Frank Marshall imagines the dinosaurs sticking around.

The Jurassic Park movies is one of the most beloved sci-fi franchises ever. Over the past few years, the property was given new life with the Jurassic World franchise. That trilogy will come to an end with the mysterious Jurassic World 3, which will unite the new cast of actors with franchise favorites like Laura Dern, Sam Neill, and Jeff Goldblum. But should we expect more Jurassic World sequels after that story wraps up? One producer has opened up about the franchise's future, and fears of oversaturation.

Frank Marshall has had a long career as a film producer, and got involved with the Jurassic franchise in Jurassic World. He also helped bring Fallen Kingdom to theaters, and will be lending his talents to Colin Trevorrow's upcoming threequel. Marshall recently spoke to approaching the franchise's delicately, saying:

He's got a point. The Jurassic World franchise hasn't provided too much content, allowing the movies to speak for themselves. That means waiting a few years between installments, with nothing but the limited bonus content to keep fans satiated. Luckily for the generations of fans, they can head to Universal's theme parks to get their own taste of Jurassic World, or check out the recent short film Battle At Big Rock.

Later in his conversation with Forbes, Frank Marshall went on to explain the methodical way the Jurassic World franchise is approaching new footage, and the importance of keeping moviegoers wanting more. He said:

Clearly the studio and producer are carefully choosing how much Jurassic World content is available at any given time. The two movies are currently standing on their own two feet, as the franchise is expanded through side projects like theme park attractions and the recent short film.

Frank Marshall was also kind enough to provide an update on Jurassic World 3. The last movie opened things up for the franchise, and Marshall said the following about the upcoming follow-up:

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom changed the franchise forever, as the surviving dinosaurs escaped and were free to join the world. Battle at Big Rock showed how that has affected the denizens of the franchise, and the upcoming threequel could seemingly go anywhere narratively. Especially now that the stars of the original franchise will reprise their roles in Jurassic World 3.

As Moby might sing it, oh baby (oh baby!), the Jason Bourne franchise almost fell apart before you could stand in line for more of this. Star Matt Damon credits producer Frank Marshall with rescuing the first film, The Bourne Identity, from one-and-done purgatory. Marshall was a last-minute addition to the team, but without him, Damon is sure he would not have had an action franchise:

Yes, thanks in part to Frank Marshall's extreme ways (sorry, I'll stop now), one film became a franchise that made more than $1.5 billion at the box office.

Frank Marshall and Kathleen Kennedy are this year's Irving G. Thalberg recipients, which is why Variety gathered stars to share stories about the producers. Matt Damon clearly had high praise for Marshall, and it sounds like Bourne fans should thank him as well.

The Bourne films are all based on the CIA assassin character created by author Robert Ludlum. The franchise started with The Bourne Identity in 2002, which Doug Liman directed to $214 million worldwide. Paul Greengrass took over directing for The Bourne Supremacy in 2004, which earned $288.5 million. Greengrass stuck around for The Bourne Ultimatum in 2007, which earned (and deserved) a massive $442.8 million worldwide. The franchise took a detour after that, with Jeremy Renner's Aaron Cross fronting The Bourne Legacy in 2012, which still made $276 million even without Matt Damon.

It took nearly 10 years for Matt Damon to return for Jason Bourne, which was a disappointment to watch -- but boy did a lot of people watch! Anticipation helped get butts in seats, and the 2016 film made $415.5 million worldwide. That's not quite as good as Ultimatum, but still solid in such a competitive action franchise market.

But still. Matt Damon knows many fans were not thrilled with Jason Bourne. It's the only one of his Bourne movies to be deemed "rotten" by both Rotten Tomatoes critics and users. He said the only way they'd go back and make another Jason Bourne movie is if they had "a pretty incredible story." As Damon put it:

Or maybe we, too, are waiting for another pretty incredible story. Tom Cruise's Mission: Impossible franchise shows that fans will keep turning up if the story and visuals are strong. Jason Bourne just didn't have the usual spark, but The Bourne Ultimatum certainly did. It's good that they wouldn't make another movie just to take more money, but Bourne fans can still hope that a perfect idea occurs to them at some point. Maybe Frank Marshall can save the franchise again?

The following story contains spoilers for Paul Greengrass's Jason Bourne. Stop reading now if you've yet to see the summer blockbuster.

This past summer, Jason Bourne (Matt Damon) came out of semi-retirement to tackle a nagging memory about his father, and the Treadstone program that helped turn him into a lethal agent of the United States government. Hard truths were learned, as Bourne learned to work with, and then against, a double-crossing CIA operative named Heather Lee (played by Alicia Vikander). Their collective paths eventually cross near the finale with Aaron Kalloor (Rogue One's Riz Ahmed), a tech genius being funded by our government to create Deep Dream, a social media program that can further our government's efforts to spy on every living human being.

As Jason Bourne drew to a close, Bourne (Damon), Lee (Vikander) and Kalloor (Ahmed) had open-ended resolutions that easily could be picked up in the next Bourne movie... if there is another Bourne movie. And when I spoke with producer Frank Marshall about Jason Bourne and the future of the franchise, he told me all of this is intentional:

That's what struck me about Jason Bourne. Yes, Matt Damon is going to come back. But thanks to movies like Ex Machina, The Danish Girl and the upcoming Tomb Raider relaunch, she has become a household name who you'd be happy to build a franchise around. The same is about to be said for Riz Ahmed, who has built up his audience with HBO's The Night Of, and has the potential to explode with Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Frank Marshall admits that they got these actors at the front of the curve, but he then knows that he has the capability to capitalize on their popularity if and when they develop the next Bourne story.

As for the state of that sequel, and the secret to its possible success, Frank Marshall tells me:

Most movie fans are waiting with bated breath for Indiana Jones 5. Sadly, they're going to keep waiting for a while, because not only is the film itself still over two and a half years away, it has now even been revealed that the script isn't quite as far along as we'd originally hoped. That's according to producer Frank Marshall, who insisted that Indiana Jones 5's script is still in the "thinking" period.

Frank Marshall, who has worked as an executive producer on all four previous installments of the Indiana Jones franchise, made this rather disappointing admission to Fandango. During their discussion about the DVD/Blu-ray release of Jason Bourne on December 6, the chat briefly turned to Indiana Jones 5 and where exactly David Koepp is at with the script. This provoked Frank Marshall to respond with:

At the moment, there's nothing much to worry about. With Indiana Jones due out on July 19, 2019, production on the blockbuster is only likely to commence towards the end of 2017 and then into 2018, allowing 12 months for pre-production. Plus, considering how convoluted and ultimately dull the screenplay for Indiana Jones And The Crystal Skull was, maybe it should come as something of a relief that they're taking their time to think over the script.

Another topic that was raised by Fandango during their chat with Frank Marshall was whether or not Karen Allen's Marion Jones, formerly Ravenwood, would return to the fold. Once again, Frank Marshall was non-committal, admitting that he doesn't become involved with these decisions until the "idea and the plan of where they want to go" has been created.

The involvement of both Karen Allen and Shia LaBeouf, who portrayed Mutt Williams (born Henry Walton Jones III) in Indiana Jones And The Crystal Skull, is one of the big questions that hangs over the upcoming fifth installment to the series. By the end of Crystal Skull, they looked like quite the happy family, as Indiana and Marion finally wed after years of separation, with Mutt beaming at their side and even getting himself a fancy new hat. It was a sight for sore eyes, and one you can relive by watching below.

While Shia LaBeouf seemed like the perfect young actor to take the Indiana Jones franchise forward back in 2008, his career path over recent years has taken him down a different, but nevertheless still exciting, trajectory. But after Warner Bros decided that Shia LaBeouf was too big of a risk for Suicide Squad, it's unlikely that the much more reserved Disney will want to progress with him. Whether that would affect the involvement of Karen Allen remains to be seen. From the sound of things, we're going to have to wait quite some time until we get definitive answers on the matter, too.

Frank Marshall has insisted that as long as he's there to bat away the requests, there will never, ever be a reboot of Back To The Future. Marshall worked on all three Back To The Future films as an executive producer, and he has insisted that he won't let any filmmaker near the 1985 classic so that they can bring it to a brand new audience.

The producer made this emphatic declaration while talking to Yahoo Movies UK, insisting that Back To The Future, like ET: The Extra-Terrestrial, just doesn't need to be touched. At the same time he also gave the film a little pat on the back for being so close with its prediction about the Chicago Cubs' World Series triumph. When asked about a potential Back To The Future reboot, Frank Marshall remarked:

This isn't the first time that the mere suggestion of a Back To The Future reboot has been dismissed by someone close to the project. Sources for Robert Zemeckis told Deadline back in October 2015, "The film can't happen without his approval, and he doesn't want to do a remake or a redo." While back in June of the same year, Robert Zemeckis told the Telegraph himself when quizzed about a potential reboot:

Even Bob Gale, who wrote each installment of the Back To The Future franchise, told Yahoo Movies back in 2014 that there was no way Back To The Future 4 would happen, before then adding:

Meanwhile, for those of you that aren't aware of Back To The Future's clairvoyance regarding the Chicago Cubs, all the way back in 1989, Bob Gale wrote a joke into Back To The Future Part II that saw Marty McFly being greeted to the year 2015 with a news headline that joked the Chicago Cubs had swept the World Series over a Miami baseball team. Rather spookily, Back To The Future Part II was just one year out, as the Chicago Cubs finally ended their World Series hoodoo in 2016. It isn't quite The Simpsons predicting President Donald Trump, but it is nevertheless impressive.

Back when Matt Damon walked away from the Bourne franchise, having delivered three successful chapters in the espionage saga, Jeremy Renner was introduced as Aaron Cross, in hopes of continuing the on-screen adventures. The Bourne Legacy told another story about another spy from a similar program as Bourne, and we watched as the events of Aaron Cross's tragic path were affected by movements made by Jason Bourne (Matt Damon) in The Bourne Ultimatum. A shared universe, of sorts, was born -- no pun intended -- and talk has hummed along that Damon and Renner might one day share the same screen as part of a massive Bourne team up.

Well, it's likely time to let that chatter die down and fade away. Earlier this week, we spoke with longtime Bourne producer Frank Marshall about the recent Jason Bourne, as the summer blockbuster prepares to hit DVD and Blu-ray, and I asked him if they were still actively pursuing a team-up movie with Matt Damon and Jeremy Renner. And he bluntly replied:

We've been covering this possibility ever since Jeremy Renner opted to continue the Bourne legacy in The Bourne Legacy back in 2012. And both actors have done what they could to keep the door open to the possibility, even as Renner found himself getting busier and busier with Mission: Impossible movies and Marvel gigs.

Frank Marshall has addressed this situation before. Almost a year ago, he spoke about both of the characters getting their own sequels, saying at the time that they were "two different projects, two different films." But that was before Universal and the Bourne team got a look at what audiences thought of Matt Damon being back in the role for Jason Bourne. And the box office numbers suggest that audiences -- especially domestic crowds -- prefer Damon at the head of the Bourne movie. This past summer's reunion project, which brought Damon and director Paul Greengrass into the fold for one more story, outgrossed The Bourne Legacy on every level. Moving forward, the Bourne series would be wise to keep its focus on Damon-led stories.

Colin Trevorrow's Jurassic World was an excellent mixture of nostalgia-service and authentic world building for future stories still to be told. Yes, the sequel brought audiences back to Isla Nublar (the site of the initial Jurassic Park disaster), but it also introduced new and important characters -- from Chris Pratt's Owen to Bryce Dallas Howard's Claire -- who are expected to bring the story forward in the soon-to-begin-filming sequel, Jurassic World 2.

And then there was BD Wong, a surprising but always welcome holdover from Steven Spielberg's original Jurassic Park who reprised his role of boundary-pushing geneticist Dr. Henry Wu in Colin Trevorrow's movie. Wu, it's revealed, is a driving force behind the hybrid dinosaurs found in Jurassic World, including the deadly Indominus Rex. And in a pivotal scene, we learn that Henry Wu had a partnership with Vic Hoskins (Vincent D'Onofrio), the head of InGen security who'd love to weaponize dinos.

Before all of the shit hit the fan in Jurassic World, Wu was able to escape the island by helicopter, with precious dinosaur embryos in his possession. So when I had time with Jurassic World executive producer Frank Marshall recently, I asked him if BD Wong would be back for the sequel, Jurassic World 2. And he told me:

That sounds like a confirmation that Dr. Henry Wu and his embryos will continue to cause problems for Owen (Chris Pratt) and Claire (Bryce Dallas Howard), and humanity at large, when Jurassic World 2 reaches theaters in 2018. Which makes sense, because -- again, spoilers -- there weren't a lot of other villains left standing when Jurassic World concluded. Henry Wu's associate, Hoskins, met his maker courtesy of some hungry raptors. But I'm willing to bet that both Hoskins and Wu were working for someone much larger on the outside... someone who also has plans to weaponize the dinos that Wu can whip up in his lab. Maybe that's who Toby Jones has been hired to play?

By potentially appearing in three Jurassic movies, I believe that will make BD Wong the first series actor to pull off parts in that many chapters of the ongoing story (unless J.A. Bayona finds time to add Jeff Goldblum, Laura Dern or Sam Neill to his Jurassic World 2 before filming begins). We'll continue to track progress on the sequel as it develops. Jurassic World 2 opens in theaters on June 22, 2018.

A story such as that of Captain Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger's "Miracle on the Hudson" are pretty much born to become major motion pictures. However, as anyone with an eye on the business can tell you, it takes a lot of work for any sort of story to make it to the big screen. Needless to say, the right connections can get a movie made faster than you can boot up a laptop to start a first draft. In the case of Clint Eastwood's Sully, it owes its existence to a chance meeting between its subject, and none other than Harrison Ford himself.

Producer Frank Marshall recounted the story of how Harrison Ford got involved to The Hollywood Reporter during their Producer's Roundtable, and it's quite an interesting one. Apparently, Ford and Captain Sullenberger met at, of all places, a White House dinner for heroes in aviation. Sullenberger was curious as to how his story would translate to film, and asked Harrison Ford if he thought it'd be a good idea to make the project happen. As Marshall recalled, Ford kicked the process off with the following suggestion:

The rest, as they say, is history. With Frank Marshall obtaining the rights, and Clint Eastwood enamored by the story of the "Miracle on the Hudson" that saved the lives of all passengers and crew aboard Flight 1549, Sully was on its way to becoming a motion picture event. While we all know that Tom Hanks eventually landed the lead, Marshall mentioned that he actually entertained the possibility of Harrison Ford playing the role of Captain Chelsey Sullenberger. While the result is known to us all, the reasoning is Marshall's alone to speculate thusly:

If Harrison Ford had decided to play the role of Captain Sullenberger, he would have added an interesting angle to his performance, as he's in possession of an actual pilot's license. Well, that, and seeing as Han Solo is one of the most popular pilots in film history, his professional resume also qualifies him for the hypothetical lead in Sully. However, looking back on Tom Hanks' masterful performance, it's hard to really think of anyone else playing the role.

Sully might still be in select theaters near you, but will definitely be on Blu-ray and DVD on December 20th.

Judging by the opening weekend numbers and the fact that it seems like it’s all anyone anywhere is talking about, you’re well aware that Star Wars: The Force Awakens opened this past weekend. Hell, you probably saw it, perhaps multiple times. This fervor for that far, far away galaxy lead to the biggest opening weekend of any movie ever. To gain this honor, The Force Awakens deposed Jurassic World, which took the top spot earlier this year, and the dinosaur adventure graciously ceded the throne with class, dignity, and an adorable congratulatory message.

Producer Frank Marshall shared a quick message on Twitter, congratulating J.J. Abrams, Kathleen Kennedy (Marshall’s wife), Lucasfilm, and the cast and crew on their monumental opening. The tweet arrived with an image showing the Jurassic franchise’s biggest star, the T-Rex, putting a gold medal around the neck (is that what you’d call it?) of one of the breakout stars of The Force Awakens, the one-of-a-kind ball droid BB-8.

When it was released this past summer, Jurassic World demolished theaters with a $208.8 million domestic debut, setting an impressive high-water mark. Normally an accomplishment like that stands for a while, but it only took a few months before The Force Awakens arrived on the scene, bringing in an mind-boggling total that fell just a hair shy of $248 million in the U.S. alone (globally it’s already at $528 million plus, so you have to imagine Disney executives swimming through money like Scrooge McDuck).

Don’t feel too bad for Jurassic World, however, as it went on to make more than $1.6 billion world wide, which is good enough to make it the third highest grossing movie of all time. For now.

Given The Force Awakens’ mammoth opening, some have started to wonder if it could be the film that finally unseats Avatar as the highest grossing film ever made. If any movie is going to, this one probably has the best shot. Not only are the debut numbers huge, it doesn’t appear to be going anywhere anytime soon. With a 94% Fresh rating on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, the critical consensus is super positive—even though there may be problems, most critics seem to agree that it is a damn good time—and with an A Cinemascore, audiences have found a lot to connect with. Both of those are good indicators that the movie will have legs and longevity.

It’s a long road to the top of the box office mountain—and to be honest, it doesn’t really impact any of us in any significant way—but it will be interesting to watch how Star Wars: The Force Awakens continues to perform.

The topic of whether or not there should be more Indiana Jones movies is a divisive one for fans, but regardless of individual feelings, it does appear that Indiana Jones 5 is going to happen eventually. Even if you’re not particularly stoked about this prospect, there is one thing you don’t have to worry about: Indiana Jones will not be recast, and there's a very good reason.

Frank Marshall has served as a producer on every Indiana Jones film thus far, and is in a position to know about this sort of thing. There have been tons of rumors about potentially recasting one of the most iconic roles in cinema history (Chris Pratt is a name that has been kicked around quite a bit), but talking to Total Film (via Den of Geek), Marshall said that they are:

That’s heartening to hear for fans that don’t want to pretend that some actor other than Harrison Ford is actually Indiana Jones. This doesn’t rule out that someone else could eventually assume the lead of the franchise, just that this person won’t assume the identity of Indy.

If this baton-passing route is in fact the direction the franchise goes, it stands to reason that we will eventually see Indy impart his knowledge onto a next generation adventurer who picks up where the hero leaves off. That was what many though was going to happen after Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull when it turned out that Shia LaBeouf’s Mutt Williams character is actually the child of Indy and Marion Ravenwood (Karen Allen).

While that option may not be completely off the table, it’s also possible that perhaps one of Indy’s students could catch the wild adventure bug and follow in his footsteps — he must be an inspiring professor to have lead a lecture. Perhaps Indy, and Ford, could even stick around for a time, serving as a mentor or advisor, though one who doesn’t actively participate in the globetrotting and treasure hunting.

While there has been a continuous stream of Indiana Jones 5 talk — this is one of those franchises where people are always going to discuss future prospects — it doesn’t look like there is any great rush. Just a few weeks ago, Steven Spielberg, hyping his latest, Bridge of Spies, indicated that he will "probably" do a fifth Indy movie with Harrison Ford, but didn’t reveal anything more pressing or immediate than that.

Between Star Wars: The Force Awakens and the upcoming Blade Runner 2, directed by Denis Villenueve, Ford is going to have a rather busy schedule for a while. So, if you’re hotly anticipating Indiana Jones 5, let’s hope that enthusiasm is manageable, because it might be a while.

It’s very, very early in the going, and we don’t know much, if anything, about what the upcoming Bourne 5 will look like (okay, Paul Greengrass is back to direct, so it will probably feature a lot of jittery, pseudo-verite style camerawork). But now we have our first look at Matt Damon returning to the title role, and if you had any doubts about whether or not he could still pull it off, just check out this badass first look. It will go a long way towards easing your mind on that front.

Super producer Frank Marshall (Jurassic World, Indiana Jones, and tons of other notable films) tweeted out this image, and it’s a doozy. We haven’t seen Matt Damon’s Jason Bourne since 2007. He was mentioned in the Jeremy Renner-starring The Bourne Legacy, but mostly just to drive home the fact that no one knew where he was.

At the end of The Bourne Ultimatum, he’s swimming away into an uncertain future, and in Legacy, we find out he’s still being hunted, though he appears to be at least one step ahead of his pursuers at every stage. While there’s no concrete information in this image, it offers a glimpse of at least a part of what he’s been up to in his spare time and how he’s remained hidden.

Unwrapping his fists, shirtless, bruised, and covered in dirt, it appears that Jason Bourne has joined the likes of John Rambo before him (and Topper Harley in Hot Shots! Part Deux), and gone underground where he literally has to fight to survive. Enclosed in some sort of ring, surrounded by a grubby looking audience, it looks like he’s become a part of some kind of fighting ring, probably as a way to use his skills to earn money and stay off of the government radar. Last we heard in Legacy, he was spotted in Russia, so it’s easy to imagine him living a simple, quiet life, aside from the fisticuffs, somewhere in the former Eastern Bloc.

While production must just have started—just a week ago we heard new casting news, but nothing about actual filming—Bourne 5 has already put together a fantastic cast. In addition to Damon, who looks ripped and grizzled here, Tommy Lee Jones and Ex Machina’s Alicia Vikander have both joined the party. Julia Stiles will reprise her role as former CIA analyst and Bourne ally Nicky Parsons. And Vincent Cassell will reportedly play a high-level assassin on the trail of the amnesiac super agent, though we’re not sure if this is for personal or professional reasons.

Bourne 5 is apparently already filming, and it is slated to hit theaters on July 29, 2016.

For a minute there it was simple. Matt Damon made three Jason Bourne movies then he decided he was done. So they made the spin-off The Bourne Legacy with Jeremy Renner. Then Damon had to go and complicate things by deciding to come back to the franchise. So what happens to Renner? While things have been far from clear for quite some time, it does look like both franchises are moving forward.

Today SlashFilm published an interview with Frank Marshall, producer of the Bourne films (and about a million other things). When they asked him how Renner’s character would fit into the planned Matt Damon Bourne movie, Marshall had a single sentence response:

But what a sentence that is as it speaks volumes. When Damon and Paul Greengrass announced plans to return to the original Bourne franchise it threw everything for Jeremy Renner and his Bourne alterego, Aaron Cross, into doubt. The planned sequel for Renner was postponed, which in turn caused Justin Lin to pick up the available Star Trek 3 job. While Marshall confirmed a few months ago that there were still plans to move forward with Renner as part of the franchise, we didn’t know in what capacity that would be. Would he join Damon in the new film? Marshall seemed to imply that Renner’s character would be kept separate but he stopped short of confirming anything.

Now we have some confirmation that Aaron Cross will be seen on film once again in his own sequel and that the project is still moving forward, even if it has been put in line behind Damon’s return. While a team up film must be on the agenda at some point (can we call it the Bourne Cinematic Universe?) it looks like that won’t happen until after we see a direct sequel to the The Bourne Legacy, but that won’t even start until after Lin is finished with the new Star Trek.

While Bourne Legacy was not as big a hit as the previous Bourne movies, it was still successful and Renner has gone on to make a much bigger name for himself since then as Hawkeye in the Marvel Cinematic Universe films. One would think that Renner’s current star power could draw several more bodies into a theater this time around for a dedicated sequel.

Now that we know that the project is happening, hopefully we won’t have to wait too long to find out what’s going on with it. We’re still over a year away from Damon’s next Bourne film, which is releasing a couple weeks after Justin Lin’s new Star Trek, and hopefully we won’t have to wait that long to find out what’s next for Aaron Cross.

There’s been a lot of talk about Indiana Jones 5, but for as much chatter as has been bandied about, we really don’t know whether or not this is something that is actually happening or if it’s just an idea being kicked around. There are some conflicting reports, but one of the producers involved sounded off on the matter, and if you were holding your breath for Indy 5, it looks like you’re going to be holding on for a while longer.

Making the press rounds for the record breaking Jurassic World, producer Frank Marshall talked with Slashfilm and this subject came up. When asked if all of this talk was just a rumor on the internet, Marshall said:

That seems rather definitive. And a producer on the previous four Indiana Jones pictures, not to mention that he’s married to Lucasfilm head honcho Kathleen Kennedy, Marshall is in a unique position to know about these things.

There is apparently some question about whether Marshall specifically means that there has been no discussion of Indiana Jones 5 at all, or if he is talking about the possibility of Jurassic World and Guardians of the Galaxy star Chris Pratt taking over the character from Harrison Ford. Just the other day, Pratt said that he hasn’t had any conversations with anyone about that scenario, though he sounds open to the opportunity should it arise.

It would seem strange, however, that there have been no talks at all about another Indiana Jones movie. Sure, the last one was garbage, but it still made $786 million dollars, so someone somewhere has to have been talking about Indy 5. Though with so much focus on the Star Wars universe, which is set to start expanding like it never has before, it’s possible that has, up to now, taken most of the focus, especially with Steven Spielberg busy producing Jurassic World.

What throws even more confusion into the mix is a report that just surfaced over at Ain’t It Cool News, where one of their sources, who they claim is long-time and trusted, says that Lucasfilm already has Indiana Jones 5 slated for release sometime in the final quarter of 2018.

If you put a gun to our head and forced us to wager, it sounds like Marshall was specifically addressing the Chris Pratt portion of the equation. With his commitments to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as well as the fact that he signed on for more Jurassic movies and his sci-fi romance Passengers with Jennifer Lawrence just got the green light from Sony, the actor has a lot on his plate coming up.

And if a new Indy film is happening, 2018 sounds like a solid possibility. About a month ago, Kathleen Kennedy said that while she’s sure Lucasfilm will eventually make another movie in the franchise, it won’t be anytime soon, because no one is working on a script, though they "are talking about it." Perhaps, with things firming up in the Star Wars realm, there has been movement in the interim, but as for any future Indiana Jones movie, no matter where you stand, it’s still a long ways off in the distance.

As soon as it was announced that Matt Damon will be returning to the Bourne franchise in the untitled Bourne 5, fans have been wondering what that means for Jeremy Renner's Aaron Cross from The Bourne Legacy. Will that character be simply erased from the fictional world? Will he get another adventure of his own somewhere down the line? Or will he actually get to be a part of an Avengers-style team-up that sees him working with Damon's Jason Bourne? According to producer Frank Marshall, it's mostly Option B, with a chance of Option C.

Marshall - who has been an executive producer on the Bourne franchise since it launched with The Bourne Identity in 2002 - recently sat down for an interview with Collider, and when asked if Jeremy Renner was still going to be a part of the franchise going forward, the filmmaker firmly confirmed that he will be. Where things got tricky, however, was when the of a possible Matt Damon/Jeremy Renner crossover movie came up. According to Marshall, there is nothing currently in the cards, but it isn't entirely an impossibility that Bourne and Cross could one day meet. Asked if there was a chance to the two characters could come together in Bourne 5, he told the site,

Given how just about everything in Hollywood these days seems to be gearing towards the Marvel-style "shared universe" days - from DC Comics, to Robin Hood, to King Arthur - this is a rather curious answer, if not only because making a Jason Bourne/Aaron Cross team-up movie seems so obvious. Bourne's home, Universal Pictures, has already been working with this kind of strategy, creating a whole new linked series of monster movies, so it's strange that they wouldn't also try the same thing for one of their biggest action franchises. Then again, it's also entirely possible that Frank Marshall is just playing politics here, and merely doesn't want to give anything away about big plans that are being developed behind the scenes.

At this stage, we have no idea when we will be getting our next Aaron Cross-led Bourne movie, but Bourne 5 seems to be right on track. In addition to Matt Damon coming back, Paul Greengrass will once again be at the helm of the project, and filming is scheduled to start later this year. While the film was originally going to come out on July 15, 2016, it has since been pushed back to July 29, 2016. Presumably the next few months will be filled with new details about who in the franchise cast will be returning and who will be signing on for their series debut, so stay tuned.

Hey Cyndi Lauper. Why haven’t they started filming The Goonies 2 yet? Because the script isn’t "good enough! For you it’s … good enough. For me it’s good, it’s good enough. Ah, yai yai ya yai yah!"

OK, sorry. That was beyond terrible. And so far, the drafts for the proposed sequel have been below average, as well, as mega-producer Frank Marshall confirmed to Collider in an interview. His words were not very convincing that The Goonies 2 will happen – even though the idea has been bandied about by director Richard Donner and his cast for some time. When asked if there’s a workable script at the moment, Marshall said, "Not yet." When pushed to elaborate, he danced around the question by explaining that the story means everything, and that until they crack it, there’s no point in even pushing the project forward. Marshall said:

A non-sequel that is in the "Amblin spirit" of the original film? Yeah, that sounds like reboot to me, and I’m not sure any of us want to go down that road. A while back, we came up with feasible ideas for a Goonies sequel, and the two that you overwhelmingly supported was a second movie following the older versions of the classic Goonie characters, or an adventure undertaken by their children. I don’t think we want to see new kid actors plucked from the Disney Channel and handed the nicknames Data, Chunk and Mouth. This is our time, our time down here. Up there, it’s their time. And they can take their cheap reboot ideas and shove them where the sun doesn’t shine.

Marshall’s comments lead me to believe that The Goonies 2 isn’t going to happen, because there’s no powerful idea willing this sequel into existence. There’s nostalgia, and not much else. If there was a great idea that Donner, Steven Spielberg, Marshall and the rest of the cast couldn’t pass up on, then I think we’d already be moving forward on this. Because as you can see, people like Josh Brolin are ready to start shooting The Goonies 2 tomorrow.

Chances are that as a kid you read the magical stories spun by the legendary Roald Dahl, and even if you didn’t read his books, you’ve for sure seen some movies adapted from his work--James and the Giant Peach, The Fantastic Mr. Fox, and most famously Charlie and the Chocolate Factory just to name a few. Now, another of his classic tales, The BFG (Big Friendly Giant), is being adapted by none other than E.T. scribe Melissa Mathison, says The Wrap.

Absent from the comings and goings of the film world for quite some time, Mathison’s last writing project was Kundun way back in 1997. With any luck Mathison will be able to translate some of the magic she created with E.T. nearly 30 years ago, but with Dahl’s whimsical style, it shouldn’t be a huge stretch for her to bring his world to life.

The film will be produced at DreamWorks under the guidance of veteran producers Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall. The pair have worked together many times before including on the latest Miyazaki piece Ponyo, for which Mathison served as storyline consultant for the release of the English language dubbing of the film. Their presence will be huge in getting The BFG everything it needs to find its way to the big screen, I mean, Marshall produced the Indiana Jones movies. That earns you some pull.

DreamWorks is coming off the hugely successful Emma Stone vehicle The Help and is looking to use that to start off a string of successes. There’s no indication of when DreamWorks wants The BFG ready, but not doubt they’ll be looking to get it out quickly so expect some more news on this soon after the script gets wrapped up.

When you've got a father and a son who can't stand each other plus a firearm, you've got a Marvin Gaye situation on your hands, or Heath Ledger's fate in Monster's Ball, or at the very least a really, really tense Thanksgiving. Apparently, though, it can all turn out OK, as it does in Fathers and Guns, the French-Canadian action-comedy that's about to get an English-language remake at Sony.

According to Variety, Frank Marshall and Kathleen Kennedy will produce the remake alongside the original film's producers Denise Robert and Emile Gaudreault. The film is about a father-and-son cop team who are assigned to investigate an outdoor camp for fathers and sons to grow closer together through adventure therapy. You can probably see where this is going.

With the right pair of actors-- please, please do not hire John Travolta, Robin Williams, or anyone associated with Wild Hogs-- this thing could definitely work. Any Quebecois out there with the perfect casting suggestion? Or do you just think it's ridiculous that Americans have to take the one hit Quebec film ever and turn it into something Hollywood?

Jurassic Park 4 has been lost in development hell for well, almost since the second the third one finished its theatrical run in 2001. Every year or so someone from Spielberg’s team wanders onto a movie site and promises they’re working on it. Then months pass and we hear nothing until one of them pops up again to promise it’s still happening. Well not this time. This time Frank Marshall has decided to come clean. Jurassic Park 4? Probably not.

Talking to io9 Marshall finally admitted, “At this point, you could call it a long shot.” Even though I’m a big fan of the Jurassic Park franchise in general, it’s hard not to regard this as great news since rumor had the fourth movie involving velociraptors with the ability to fire sub-machine guns. Bad enough we’re going to have to put up with the continued ruination of Indiana Jones via a fifth movie, at least they’re leaving Jurassic Park alone.

Unfortunately they’re not leaving The Neverending Story alone. That’s still headed for a horrible, unnecessary remake which will undoubtedly complete the utter destruction of my childhood leaving me even more of an empty, bitter, hollow shell than I already am. Marshall confirms that they’re still working on it, though it’s still “kind of off in the distance.” If there’s a silver lining here it’s that they don’t actually have the rights to make it yet. If they get them though, it sounds like they’re more than eager to move ahead.
