The Five-Star Weekend, which you can watch with a Peacock subscription, continues the streamer's tradition of having a fascinating collection of miniseries and original programming. It follows Hollis (Jennifer Garner) as she invites four of her closest friends away for a weekend to escape her grief. The series has plenty of heartfelt moments and twists.

The book-to-screen adaptation is enjoyable but not one of Peacock’s best TV shows. However, some of its strongest elements are its exploration of womanhood, grief, friendship, and the boundaries and restrictions people set for themselves.

The Five-Star Weekend is a lot more wholesome than many of the best female rage movies, but it still feels like one.

Most Of The Characters Are Oppressed In Some Way By A System Or Traditions

Each of the main characters is dealing with a crisis. Hollis is managing her grief, while Brooke (D'Arcy Carden) is dealing with her husband’s scandal and discovering a new part of herself. Tatum (Chloë Sevigny) has a major health scare, Gigi (Gemma Chan) has a huge secret, and Dru-Anne (Regina Hall) has a major PR problem. They’re all trying to handle their issues in their own ways.

However, it’s not leading to the healthiest coping mechanisms. For example, Gigi is lying to everyone and setting herself up for heartbreak. Despite their destructive choices, a lot of their issues are tied to the men they associate with or to societal standards.

Brooke’s husband is especially oppressing her. Her rage and transformation come when she’s finally with a supportive group of women. Gigi and Hollis are both in love with a dead man who, in a way, betrayed them both. The gift he gives them is each other. However, the tragedy of it all is that he also tears them apart.

Most female rage movies involve some sort of crusade or act of revenge against those who harm. It could also involve just unhinged behavior to fit into societal norms. The Five-Star Weekend is about women breaking free of chains. Chains of past relationships, societal norms, and the boxes they and others put them in. Female rage can come in how characters change their lives after experiencing heartbreaking losses: personal, career-wise, or image-wise. It’s about women taking back their power.

All the women in The Five-Star Weekend fall into that category.

The Female Friendship Is What Empowers Them But Is Imperfect

Great movies about female friendships show unbreakable bonds. The Five-Star Weekend shows the opposite. All of these bonds are not as strong as they were. They are shaky, but they’re ultimately what gives these women the power to change.

The latter half of the series really conveys how transformative this weekend is for these women and their friendship. Hollis and Tatum even renew their friendship spark. I am not sure if this Peacock series does justice to the book, but I hope it got the bonds right. In many female rage movies, something happens (a tragedy) to force the protagonist on their journey. In The Five-Star Weekend, a tragedy happens, but the women encourage each other on their journey.

The Five-Star Weekend Isn't A Show About Revenge, But Healing, And That Can Be A Greater Revenge

The Five-Star Weekend is about healing. These characters aren’t trying to make anyone pay for hurting them but are finding a way to live again, despite pain and barriers. Many female rage movies are all about revenge as a way of healing. This TV show proves that no longer being held down by hurt can be revenge.

When it comes to drama series set in beachy locales featuring affluent characters in crisis, there are plenty to choose from — and many of them are adaptations of popular novels. The Perfect Couple was one bingeable Netflix series based on a book by Elin Hilderbrand, and now another of the author’s works — The Five-Star Weekend — is available to stream with a Peacock subscription. And while I loved watching Nicole Kidman’s icy matriarch in the 2024 drama, reviews say what Jennifer Garner is serving may be even more delicious.

In The Five-Star Weekend, which hit the 2026 TV schedule on July 9, Jennifer Garner plays Hollis Shaw, a grieving food blogger who gathers friends from different eras of her life for a luxe Nantucket weekend in hopes of healing. Carla Meyer of The Wrap says it perfectly balances authenticity with its clichés in a way that The Perfect Couple was unable to do. The critic writes:

Alison Herman of Variety is similarly more impressed with the latest Elin Hilderbrand adaptation, writing in her review of The Five-Star Weekend that she’s glad this story differentiated itself from The Perfect Couple and other series like Big Little Lies and The White Lotus by not making it a murder mystery or eat-the-rich drama. In freeing itself of those plot necessities, the Peacock series is allowed to dig into the nuances of these female friendships. Herman continues:

The Five-Star Weekend also benefits from an impressive cast, says Cristina Escobar of RogerEbert, who do more than simply serve Hollis’ storyline. Chloë Sevigny, Regina Hall, D'Arcy Carden and Gemma Chan play the other four “stars” on the weekend getaway, which ends up being way more than so many of the “pedestrian housewife melodramas” we see. Escobar writes:

Alise Chaffins of MacGuffin or Meaning gives it 4 out of 5, agreeing that the series shows surprising depth for this type of melodrama. The fleshed-out characters, exploration of female friendships and A+ performances add up to a “truly entertaining” project, Chaffins says, writing:

The critics aren’t all in agreement, though. In his The Five-Star Weekend review, Dave Nemetz of TV Line rates the series a C+, calling the story “more mild than wild.” It’s a “pleasant snooze,” Nemetz says, “but a snooze nonetheless.” In his words:

From the reviews I read, critics mostly seem to like the series, and fans of The Five-Star Weekend novel will surely be interested in seeing how the story is adapted. Also, if you loved The Perfect Couple, it sounds like this one might offer a better story (at least more likeable characters) — albeit without the murder mystery.

'Tis the season for beachy reads and summer vibes, right? I've had The Five Star Weekend by Elin Hilderbrand on my TBR for a while, and with Peacock's book-to-screen adaptation coming up on the 2026 TV schedule in about a month, there are a few key things I know I need the TV show to get right.

I completely understand that adaptations need to make changes from the book, but there are a few things about The Five Star Weekend that I really want to see in the adaptation, so I hope the show keeps them.

Before I get to those things, here's the obvious spoiler warning. If you haven't read The Five-Star Weekend, I highly recommend it! It's about Hollis, a grieving widow who invites one close friend from each phase of her life to celebrate a weekend with her in Nantucket, in the hopes of helping her move forward. Each of the other main characters is dealing with something in their lives that they need to resolve or are trying to take their minds off during the weekend. Hollis And Caroline's Relationship

I hope that the core of Hollis's relationship with her young-adult daughter, Caroline (Harlow Jane), is similar to the book. Hilderbrand's story focuses heavily on the importance of female friendships throughout a woman's life, and that includes the relationship shared between a mother and her daughter. In the source material, Hollis (Jennifer Garner) and Caroline are borderline estranged, and from the trailer, it's evident we're going to see that tension. I hope they also focus on how they overcome that, and Caroline's shifting perspective of her mother over the course of the weekend, as it's one of my favorite parts of the book.

Tatum And Kyle's Close Relationship

While most of the women in The Five-Star Weekend are dealing with a range of issues some of which involve romantic relationships, Hollis' childhood BFF Tatum (Chloe Sevigny) and her husband Kyle (David Denman) are an actually-happy married couple. In the book, Tatum is stressing over a possible cancer diagnosis, so her life isn't perfect, but she does have Kyle, and the sparks are still flying for them in the decades since they were childhood sweethearts. I really hope we get to see some of that in the show. I'm also expecting some sparks between Hollis and her high school flame, Jack (Timothy Olyphant).

Dru-Ann's Whole Public Image Crisis

Goodness, did I love Dru-Ann in the book, and I love that Regina Hall is playing her in the TV show. A lot of what Dru-Ann (Hollis's former college roommate) is going through in the book -- being publicly cancelled in her high-profile sportscaster career for comments she made being taken out of context -- takes place over the phone and social media, so I really hope the show finds a way to make it relevant to the plot, as its conclusion was one of my favorite parts of the book.

I just love the way Dru-Ann stood her ground on the things she did and didn't say that got her cancelled, but also showed the strength of her character when she apologized to Tatum for something she did actually say to her years ago. She's such a great character, and I hope the show highlights all of those aspects of her.

Gigi's Mystery And Complexity

It's revealed partway through the book that Gigi (Gemma Chan), the friend Hollis knows from her website, but has never met in person, is actually her husband's mistress. Of course, Hollis has no idea about this when she invites her to the weekend.

I'm honestly ok with however the show decides to reveal the truth about Gigi, both to us (the viewers) and to Hollis. What I do hope is that they find a way to bring the layers of Gigi's character -- her curiosity about Hollis, her grief, her guilt, and anything else going on with her -- to the screen. In the book, Gigi's by no means a saint, but she's also not a monster.

I also hope that there's time and room for us to see how Hollis deals with the information about her husband and their marriage, as her reaction in the book is a bit of a roller coaster, understandably so.

As I said, I know Bekah Brunstetter and the other writers are going to have to change things for the TV series. Now that I've read the book, I kind of hope they do here and there, to build in some suspense and surprises for those of us who've read the novel. But these are just a few things I loved so much from the book, and I hope the TV show does these parts justice.

If you’re looking forward to this series, and you haven’t seen The Perfect Couple – the TV adaptation of another Hildebrand book set in Nantucket – on Netflix, that’s a great series to dive into while you wait!

Like millions of people around the world, I spent five hours watching Marvel slowly roll out all those Avengers: Doomsday names in March 2025, and like a lot of people, I was bummed a few of the biggest MCU stars, including Ryan Reynolds, didn’t have a chair. While it may be true that we will see more additions as we work toward the release of the upcoming Marvel movie, I was shocked by some of the names left out of the excruciatingly long cast announcement.

That said, here’s a list of some of those beloved MCU actors I really hope we see when the Russo Brothers’ Avengers: Doomsday opens on the big screen in May 2026. It’s a long list (no, not as long as that video), so let’s get started…

Ryan Reynolds

Ryan Reynolds, who has played Deadpool since the Fox days, has made a habit of teasing his return to the MCU ever since the release of Deadpool & Wolverine in 2024. I totally thought we’d see his name on one of those chairs in that seemingly endless lineup, which is why I’m so bummed the wise-cracking, R-rated, and lethal hero wasn’t included.

In an ideal world, Reynolds’ return would also include the likes of Dafne Keen, Wesley Snipes, Jennifer Garner, and Leslie Uggams (you can’t have Deadpool without Blind Al).

Tom Holland

With the Spider-Man 4 release date so close to the Avengers: Doomsday rollout, it would be shocking if Tom Holland doesn’t show up in the massive crossover film a few months before his new Web-Slinger adventure. The highly in-demand actor seemed like a shoo-in to be included in the gargantuan list filled with all his MCU buddies. There are rumors that Holland won’t be in the next Avengers film, but I’m not totally convinced at this point.

Samuel L. Jackson

Samuel L. Jackson has been a part of the MCU since he showed up in Tony Stark’s house and revealed himself as Nick Fury way back in Iron Man. Since then, he’s popped up in all of the Avengers movies, so I was a little saddened and surprised by his omission from the absurdly long cast list for Doomsday. I mean, Fury is still alive on the Marvel Cinematic timeline after the events of The Marvels.

Chris Evans

Even though his version of Captain America retired during the Avengers: Endgame ending, Chris Evans has reappeared in the MCU (Johnny Flame in Deadpool & Wolverine), so I wouldn’t be shocked if some character played by the franchise mainstay shows up by the time it’s all said and done. Evans has been cagey about a possible return in the past, but not seeing his name on the back of a chair is a little disheartening, if I’m being honest.

Mark Ruffalo

Mark Ruffalo has been one of my favorite MCU actors ever since he took on the role of Bruce Banner/The Hulk in 2012’s The Avengers. He’s been there for all the major moments in the franchise since then, but now I’m starting to think his iconic character won’t be saving the planet, galaxy, universe, or multiverse with his old buddies next summer. This can’t happen. I mean, who’s going to give Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man an extra taco?

Benedict Cumberbatch

Is Benedict Cumberbatch bringing back Doctor Strange (third eye and all) for Avengers: Doomsday? I don’t know because the longtime Marvel staple wasn’t included in the longest line of chairs I’ve ever seen. The actor’s comments about his return to the MCU have been all over the place, with his most recent comments to Business Insider in January 2025 making it sound like he could possibly return.

Don Cheadle

Though the Armor Wars project seems to be up in the air, I thought Don Cheadle would for sure be a part of the upcoming Avengers movie. James Rhodes has been a part of the franchise since the very beginning, and Cheadle’s version of the character has had a part in three of the four crossover films to date.

Brie Larson

Another big name missing from the “Infinity Scroll of Chairs” was Brie Larson, whose Captain Marvel has long been one of the strongest heroes in the entire MCU. We last saw her in The Marvels back in 2023, so she’s due for a return at this point. The same can be said about co-stars Teyonah Parris and Iman Vellani, who play Monica Rambeau and Kamala Khan, respectively. I’d be shocked if they didn’t appear.

Jeremy Renner

Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye has had one of the craziest journeys in the MCU over the years. The underrated Avenger has been through it all, and I’ll be bummed if he’s not part of Doomsday next year. He famously wasn’t part of the Avengers: Infinity War cast, so maybe, just maybe, we’ll see him in Avengers: Secret Wars in a few years.

Charlie Cox

With Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdoch very much a part of the MCU again with the recent arrival of Daredevil: Born Again, I will be shocked if the actor doesn’t appear in Avengers: Doomsday. His name is on the rise (both the actor and character), so his absence could be felt a great deal.

Also, I would love to see Cox’s Defenders co-stars like Mike Colter, Finn Jones, and Krysten Ritter have some kind of role in what appears to be the biggest Marvel movie in years.

Halle Berry

Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, and several other major players from the original X-Men movies were all announced for Avengers: Doomsday, but there was one actress whose absence really bummed me out: Halle Berry. Whenever the music would change and the camera would pan to the right, I kept hoping to see the Storm actress listed on a chair, but it never came.

The same can be said about Famke Janssen, Anna Paquin, and Hugh Jackman, three other major names from the franchise who are oddly missing from the cast list.

The Guardians Of The Galaxy

Though Dave Bautista and Pom Klementieff seem to be finished with the MCU after the events of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, the rest of the actors should still be in play moving forward. With Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Bradley Cooper, Karen Gillan, and Vin Diesel being major parts of the last two Avengers movies, it will be odd not to see them in the upcoming Doomsday. I really hope that changes, as I’d love to see that ragtag group of space scoundrels save the day again.

The Eternals

After Captain America: Brave New World referenced Eternals earlier in the year, it felt like maybe this oft-forgotten MCU movie would be getting some attention again. However, none of the actors from the 2021 epic were included in the Avengers: Doomsday rollout. I guess we’ll have to wait longer to figure out what’s going on with the group played by Angelina Jolie, Richard Madden, Gemma Chan, and Barry Keoghan.

Other Marvel Stars I Want To See In Avengers: Doomsday

On top of all these names and various groups, I would love to see even more actors from the Marvel Cinematic Universe show up in Avengers: Doomsday. From longtime staples like Paul Bettany, Elizabeth Olsen, Hayley Atwell, and Scarlett Johansson (nobody stays dead forever, right?) to other fan favorites played by the likes of Benedict Wong, Dafne Keen, Lupita Nyong’o, Awkwafina, and Danai Guirara to actors introduced in post-credit scenes like Brett Goldstein and Charlize Theron, there are just so many familiar faces that could show up.

Will any or all of these actors show up in Avengers: Doomsday or its sequel? I really hope so.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe constantly keeps fans on their toes, thanks to a steady supply arriving in theaters and streaming with a Disney+ subscription. While fans are looking forward to upcoming Marvel movies, they're also still unpacking the events of Captain America: Brave New World. One of the movie's main plot lines was an Eternals tie-in, with Celestial Island (aka Tiamut's frozen body) introducing adamantium and becoming a global arms race in the process. Now that the 2021 movie's events are finally factoring into the MCU, Gemma Chan spoke about the possibility of more Eternals content.

Fans who spent years watching the Marvel movies in order saw as post-Endgame projects like Chloé Zhao's MCU debut failed to meet the same success of its predecessors. But the ending of Eternals gave us a number of cliffhangers, including Tiamut's body and most of the titular team being captured by Celestial Arishem. While speaking with ComicBook about new movie The Actor, Chan adresed a possible sequel and/or sequel, offering:

I should say so. Between the movie's ending and Eternals' credits scene, there was a lot of set up being done for the future of the MCU. And for the most part, they've been left unresolved. Harry Styles was introduced as Eros, while Kit Harrington's Dane Whitman prepared to wield the Ebony Blade and heard the voice of Mahershala Ali's Blade in the process. Unfortunately, Captain America: Brave New World was the fist project that really delved into the aftermath of that movie.

The fans assumed that the Eternals would be a major presence in the MCU after their debut, but that hasn't been the case. The studio is seemingly out on an Eternals sequel, as it hasn't been announced to added to the Marvel calendar. But the cast is outstanding, and there are still some corners of the MCU fandom who would like to now WTF happened after the wild event of the original blockbuster.

For her part, Gemma Chan has already had a number of entrances into the MCU. Prior to playing Sersi, Chan had a role in Captain Marvel as Minn-Erva. She's seen how the shared universe functions from close-up, and is hoping that an Eternals sequel or another appearance in the MCU by the team is possibly sometime in the future.

If Marvel isn't planning on a big screen follow-up movie, it might be logical for the Eternals to appear in upcoming crossover projects like Avengers: Doomsday or Secret Wars. Although since those titles aren't part of the 2025 move release list, we're likely going to have to wait a while for more information.

Doctor Who is a British institution, and while it’s made household names of the actors who take on the mantle of The Doctor, it’s also cast many stars in guest roles. So, with that in mind, we took a journey through the iconic modern era run of the beloved BBC show, and found 32 famous actors who played a minor role in this time lord’s journey. 

Jonathan Bailey

While we know and love Jonathan Bailey as Anthony Bridgerton on one of Netflix’s best series, Bridgerton, and as Fiyero in the Wicked cast, you might not be aware that he was in Season 8 of Doctor Who in the episode “Time Heist.” He starred alongside Peter Capaldi’s Twelfth Doctor, playing the hacker Psi. 

Brett Goldstein

Brett Goldstein appeared in the Season 11 episode “The Tsuranga Conundrum '' alongside Jodie Whittaker’s Thirteenth Doctor. During the episode that saw The Doctor and co. stuck on a spaceship while an enemy tries to destroy it, and the Emmy-winning actor played the head nurse Astos. Then, two years later, Goldstein became a household name when he joined the Ted Lasso cast as the beloved grouchy player-turned-coach Roy Kent. 

Carey Mulligan

Before Carey Mulligan starred in movies like Drive, Promising Young Woman and Maestro, she played the young Sally Sparrow in the Season 3 episode “Blink.” Not only is this episode one with some of Doctor Who’s best quotes, but it’s also one of the most iconic stories in the show’s history as David Tennant’s Tenth Doctor took on the Weeping Angels. 

Olivia Colman 

In one of Doctor Who’s best episodes, and Matt Smith’s first as the Eleventh iteration of the time lord, Olivia Colman played “Mother,” a woman who is taken over by Patient Zero in “The Eleventh Hour.” After that, the actress, of course, went on to win an Oscar for The Favourite, and she starred in various other successful projects including the film The Lost Daughter, and the series Broadchurch and The Crown. 

James Corden

Long before James Corden was hosting The Late Late Show, he guest starred in two of Matt Smith’s episodes as his pal and flatmate Craig, most notably in the Season 5 episode “The Lodger.” 

Andrew Garfield

He may be best known as The Amazing Spider-Man and for films like The Social Network and Tick, Tick…Boom! but before all that, Andrew Garfield starred alongside David Tennant in two Doctor Who episodes, “Daleks in Manhattan” and “Evolution of the Daleks.” He played Frank, a boy who gets the Doctor to help get rid of the Daleks. 

Bill Nighy 

In one of the most moving episodes of Doctor Who, “Vincent and The Doctor,” Bill Nighy plays Dr. Black, who works at the museum where Vincent Van Gogh’s self-portrait is held. Before starring in the emotional Matt Smith-led episode all about the aforementioned painter, Nighy was best known for movies like Love, Actually and Pirates of the Caribbean. Since then, he’s been in films including About Time, Emma. and Living, which he got an Oscar nomination for. 

Daniel Kaluuya

You know Daniel Kaluuya? That’s right, the star of Jordan Peele’s movies Get Out and Nope and the man who won an Oscar for Judas and The Black Messiah. Well, before all of that, he played Barclay in Season 4 of Doctor Who in the episode “Planet of the Dead,” where he helped the Tenth Doctor fix an engine after a double-decker bus they were on got stuck in a very sandy place.  

Felicity Jones

Before she entered a galaxy far, far away in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story or received her Oscar nomination for The Theory of Everything, Felicity Jones guest starred on Doctor Who. In 2008, she played Robina Redmond opposite the Tenth Doctor in the episode “The Unicorn and the Wasp,” which was a fun take on Agatha Christie and her mysteries. 

Ian McKellen

While you don’t see Sir Ian McKellen in Doctor Who, his voice is undeniable, as he was the man behind The Great Intelligence in Matt Smith’s 2012 Christmas special  “The Snowmen.” This special appearance was just another feather in this iconic British actor’s cap in the world of genre as he’s best known for playing Gandalf in the Lord of the Rings films as well as Magneto in the X-Men movies. 

Maisie Williams

Obviously, we know Maisie Williams as Arya Stark, an integral character in the Game of Thrones cast. However, she also starred in another series that’s considered a British institution when she appeared in four of Peter Capaldi’s Season 9 Doctor Who episodes – “The Girl Who Died,” “The Woman Who Lived,” “Face the Raven'' and “Hell Bent” – as Ashildr (AKA Me) the immortal Viking. 

Michael Gambon 

In Doctor Who’s 2010 Christmas special, “A Christmas Carol,” the Eleventh Doctor finds himself with a very Scrooge-like character named Kazran Sardick, played by the late Michael Gambon. The actor also played the antagonist’s father Elliot Sardick. Of course, before this, he also starred in another tentpole fantasy franchise by playing Albus Dumbledore in six of the eight Harry Potter movies. 

John Hurt 

In the 50th Anniversary of Doctor Who, John Hurt joined Matt Smith and David Tennant as a regeneration of the time lord named the War Doctor, who lived between the eighth and ninth versions of The Doctor. He was, of course, played by the late great John Hurt, who was known for iconic films like Alien and The Elephant Man. He was a legendary British actor, and he played a pivotal role in the long-running BBC series.

Gemma Chan

From the beloved and star-studded rom-com Crazy Rich Asians to Marvel’s The Eternals, Gemma Chan’s star has grown immensely over the last few years. However, before that, she played geologist Mia Bennett in the 2009 episode “The Waters of Mars” alongside David Tennant’s Doctor. 

Michael Sheen

David Tennant plays the demon to Michael Sheen’s angel in Good Omens, but before they shared the screen together, the Aziraphale actor voiced a House on the show that made his co-star a household name. During Matt Smith’s run as The Doctor during the episode “The Doctor’s Wife,” the actor known for Frost/Nixon and Masters of Sex voiced the evil entity that lived just outside the universe. 

Richard E. Grant

With over 140 credits to his name, including Gosford Park and Hudson Hawk, Richard E. Grant is a legendary British actor. In Doctor Who he played an equally iconic role as the antagonist Dr. Simeon in the Eleventh Doctor-led Christmas special “The Snowmen.” After that, the actor who played a variant of Loki in Marvel’s most timey-wimey show, returned to Dr. Simeon for the Season 7 episode “The Name of the Doctor.” 

Jonathan Groff

As one of the first big actors to guest star in Ncuti Gatwa’s run as the Fifteenth Doctor, Jonathan Groff joined the cast for a Regency-era episode. Before making a brief appearance on Doctor Who, Groff made a name for himself on Broadway in shows including Merrily We Roll Along and Hamilton. He also voiced Kristoff in both Frozen films, and starred in David Fincher’s series Mindhunter. Talk about range. 

Stephen Fry

During the Thirteenth Doctor’s run, Stephen Fry played a role in the Season 12 episode “Spyfall" as C, the head of MI6. An iconic character actor, Fry has over 190 credits to his name, and he is best known for films like Wilde and V for Vendetta. 

Simon Pegg

Long before he was choosing to accept missions with Tom Cruise in the Mission: Impossible movies and leading Edgar Wright’s Three Flavours Cornetto trilogy – which is Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz and The World’s End – Simon Pegg guest starred on Doctor Who. He played The Editor in Season 1 of the modern era, and went up against Christopher Eccleston’s Ninth generation of the time lord. 

Kylie Minogue

Yes, you read that right, Australian pop icon Kylie Minogue, singer of “Can’t Get You Out of My Head” and “Chiggy Wiggy,” did star in a 2007 episode of Doctor Who titled “Voyage of the Damned.” During Season 4, she was featured alongside Tennant’s Doctor as Astrid, an alien waitress. 

Helen McCrory

Helen McCrory played Rosanna in the 2010 Doctor Who episode “The Vampires of Venice.” The Peaky Blinders star joined Matt Smith’s Doctor as the leader of the Saturnyns. Along with the two iconic BBC shows, the actress also played Narcissa Malfoy in the Harry Potter movies and starred in The Count of Monte Cristo. 

Toby Jones

In the episode “Amy’s Choice,” Toby Jones played the Dream Lord. This spooky villain that comes from the darker side of The Eleventh Doctor is another fun character in Jones’ cap, as he also voiced Dobby in the Harry Potter films and played Dr. Zola in the Captain America movies as well as Claudius Templesmith in The Hunger Games. 

Neil Patrick Harris

Joining the episode of the three-part 60th Anniversary special, Neil Patrick Harris played the Toymaker and witnessed the historic bi-generation. The How I Met Your Mother alum faced off against David Tennant’s Fourteenth Doctor as well as Ncuti Gatwa’s Fifteenth Doctor. 

Timothy Dalton

Yep, you read that right, James Bond was in Doctor Who too. Timothy Dalton – who played 007 in License to Kill and The Living Daylights – guest starred in the Tenth Doctor’s 2009 episodes “End of Time” parts one and two where he played The Narrator and Lord President Rassilon, the founder and first leader of The Doctor’s home planet, Gallifrey. 

Brian Cox

In “End of Time,” Brian Cox wasn’t seen on screen with David Tennant, however, you can hear him, because he voiced Elder Ood, who is of an alien race the Doctor works to protect. While you don’t see Cox physically in the episode, you can see him as the patriarch of the Succession cast, Logan Roy, and you can check out movies of his, including Troy and Manhunter. 

Letitia Wright

Letitia Wright’s future is as the Black Panther, but prior to playing Shuri in the MCU and starring in other fun projects, she appeared in the Season 9 episode “Face the Raven” with Peter Capaldi’s Doctor. In Doctor Who, she played Anahson, an orphan looking for her mother. 

Gugu Mbatha-Raw

While Gugu Mbatha-Raw is best known for travelling through time and space as Ravonna Renslayer in Loki, she also played Tish Jones in four episodes of Doctor Who’s fourth season alongside David Tennant. The actress who played Martha’s sister in these episodes then went on to star in many films, including Belle, and series like The Morning Show. 

Thomas Brodie-Sangster

You likely know Thomas Brodie-Sangster as the kid from Love, Actually or from his work in The Maze Runner movies and The Queen’s Gambit. However, he also starred in a pair of Doctor Who episodes in Season 3 alongside David Tennant as Tim Latimer, a schoolboy from 1913.  

Alan Cumming

The host of The Traitors and star of The Good Wife, Alan Cumming starred as King James I in the Season 11 episode “The Witchfinders.” In the episode featuring the Thirteenth Doctor, this star of stage and screen played the king of a nation that was in the midst of a witch trial when the time lord showed up. 

Iain Glen

Iain Glen played Octavian in the 2010 Doctor Who episodes titled “The Time of Angels” and “Flesh and Stone.” While the actor made a name for himself on Game of Thrones as Jorah, Daenerys’ protector, he was trying to protect his team and The Doctor from the Weeping Angels in this set of Matt Smith-led episodes. 

Anthony Head

Anthony Head played Rupert Giles in 123 episodes of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Uther Pendragon in 43 episodes of Merlin. He also portrayed the evil headmaster Lassar in one episode of Doctor Who – “School Reunion” – back in its second season alongside David Tennant. 

Jacob Anderson 

You likely remember Jacob Anderson as Grey Worm from Game of Thrones or Louis de Pointe du Lac in the series Interview with a Vampire. In the midst of all that, he joined Season 13 of Doctor Who for a recurring role as Vinder, a pilot and guardian who watches from Observation Outpost Rose and worked with the Thirteenth Doctor across seven episodes. 

As you can see, the list of actors who have made minor appearances on Doctor Who is long and wickedly impressive. From legendary actors like Ian McKellen and Olivia Colman and modern TV staples like Jonathan Bailey and Brett Goldstein, it’s hard to believe that all these folks aided (or tried to stop) The Doctor on their wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey journey through time and space, but they all did!

It’s certainly not hard to see why, as Hubert De Givenchy and Edith Head’s talents gave this movie its signature looks; chiefly among them some little black dresses that launched a thousand party outfits.

Sam “Ace” Rothstein (Casino)

How mythic is the wardrobe of Robert De Niro’s Sam “Ace” Rothstein from Casino? There are whole YouTube videos and posters designed to show them off. Not to mention even some of the oversized glasses that Martin Scorsese’s protagonist wears during the film have become the stuff of legend. Better still: Ace isn’t afraid to wear pink, and it suits him to a tee.

Lorelei Lee (Gentlemen Prefer Blondes)

Sure, as a musical showgirl, it was technically the job of Lorelei Lee (Marilyn Monroe) to always be on point with her looks. But at the same time, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes certainly snazzed her up in everyday life, thanks to some beautiful use of patterns and color. And of course, who could forget the iconic pink dress Monroe wore during “Diamonds Are A Girl’s Best Friend?”

Django (Django Unchained)

Once he entered the world of bounty hunting, Django (Jamie Foxx) took a lot of the advice Dr. King Schultz (Christoph Waltz) gave him to heart. And part of that package was the note that your wardrobe is basically your costume for the moments in your life. Everything from rough and tumble western wear to a natty blue velvet suit with ruffles resulted from that viewpoint, and we’re all the greater for it.

Miranda Priestly (The Devil Wears Prada)

If one is going to help make the decisions that puts cerulean sweaters on the backs of those who pretend to hate fashion, one needs to look like they’ve earned that right. The Devil Wears Prada’s Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep) definitely earned that right, and then some. While Streep gave up Method acting because of the character’s miserable nature, her style never looked anything less than top-flight.

Caesar Flickerman (The Hunger Games Trilogy)

Oh Stanley Tucci: the respected actor that, early in his career, was a beefcake model for Levi’s. The man’s style sense has never left him, with Caesar Flickerman from The Hunger Games trilogy being one of his more outlandish cases of style. Bursting with color that matched his energy, it’s hard to hate Panem’s prince of propaganda.

Cruella DeVil (Cruella)

Cruella reinvented the Disney villain from 101 Dalmatians into someone who dug a lot more than Dalmatian spots. Emma Stone’s titular icon of villainy actually changed her tone in this reimagining, setting her sights on revenge in the fashion world, and adopting a sort of punk rock couture aesthetic to do so. Vengeance looked amazing in her hands.

Jinx (Die Another Day)

Yes, Halle Berry’s freezing James Bond entrance in Die Another Day showed her rocking an impressive bikini. But her outfits throughout the rest of the film didn’t slouch either, especially the red leather number that kept her warm in the ice palace of Gustav Graves (Toby Stephens). Though it probably also came in handy that time she was nearly carved up by lasers too. 

Charon (The John Wick Movies)

The entire John Wick universe is dressed to the nines, exuding a style profile that puts most action movies to shame. But if I were to highlight anyone, I’m afraid it’d have to be Charon, played by the late great Lance Reddick. Then again, The Continental is one of those places where you always have to be on your fashion game; so maybe this choice was easier than I thought.

Emily Nelson (A Simple Favor)

Paul Feig’s cinematic adaptation of A Simple Favor saw Blake Lively dipping her toe into all corners of the fashion spectrum. Through looks borrowing from both traditionally masculine and feminine modes, it all looked deadly beautiful throughout her neo-noir character’s arc. 

The Protagonist (Tenet)

Inspired by Sean Connery’s James Bond fashion, Tenet costume designer Jeffrey Kurland crafted fashions for The Protagonist (John David Washington), as well as his accomplice Neil (Robert Pattinson) that evoked the classic era of 007. Kind of fitting for a movie where incremental time travel is the game, and Christopher Nolan’s discipline for panache is also very much present. 

Astrid Leong (Crazy Rich Asians)

Astrid Leong (Gemma Chan) has a heart of gold, and the fashion sense to match it. Throughout the entirety of Crazy Rich Asians, she never failed to show up in some of the most gorgeous outfits; even in moments where her heart was breaking in devastating detail. Every time she’s on screen, it’s like watching a fairy tale.

Jay Gatsby (The Great Gatsby)

When you’ve got a character that’s described as “the man in the cool beautiful shirts,” your costume design needs to measure up. Director Baz Luhrman’s adaptation of The Great Gatsby used the talents of costume designer Catherine Martin to do just that, giving Leonardo DiCaprio’s interpretation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s tragic character the finest threads money could buy. 

Tracy Chambers (Mahogany)

Mahogany’s Tracy Chambers (Diana Ross) has aspirations to be a fashion designer herself. So it’s only fitting that she not only found her way into modeling, but also onto this list of snazzy dressers. Epitomizing the color and opulence of the disco era, her cautionary tale saw Tracy looking absolutely fabulous, even in her most dire moments. 

Nigel (The Devil Wears Prada)

If you haven’t heard it before: Stanley Tucci is a man of great fashion. One of the best examples of this is the role of Nigel in The Devil Wears Prada. While he’s a bit nicer spreading the gospel of fashion than his boss Miranda (Meryl Streep), Nigel doesn’t let up in his keen eye for style in the process.

Jackie Brown (Jackie Brown)

Whether she’s coming home from flying the friendly skies, or keeping one step ahead of her criminal compatriots, Jackie Brown (Pam Grier) always looks fantastic. Of course, her striking blue uniform for her day job is what’s always stuck out in Quentin Tarantino’s film. That being said, Ms. Grier’s civilian clothes are no slouch either, especially in that food court outfit where she’s stylishly wearing a Kangol cap.

Thomas Crown (The Thomas Crown Affair)

Billionaire by day and thief in his downtime, The Thomas Crown Affair’s titular rogue is always sharply suited for the occasion. Pierce Brosnan’s James Bond movies certainly set a similar expectation, but this 1999 remake gave the actor some room to roam; even if he wasn’t contractually allowed to be seen in traditional black tie. 

Foxy Cleopatra (Austin Powers in Goldmember)

Borrowing from the rich fashion history of blaxploitation heroines, Austin Powers in Goldmember gave Foxy Cleopatra a whole lot of looks for a whole lot of woman. Then again, when you’ve cast Beyoncé as your female lead, it’s kind of hard to make her look anything other than stunning. Still, an abundance of color and flare is seen through every costume change in this spy movie spoof.

Patrick Bateman (American Psycho)

‘80s business attire was a unique beast that had stock brokers ready to step out into the night once the closing bell had rung. Using GQ and Esquire as a bible, it’s no wonder how American Psycho’s Patrick Bateman (Christian Bale) always looked as sharpened as a kitchen knife. Though spare a thought for the man’s dry cleaners, as he does have a bit of a temper.

Niobe (The Matrix Reloaded & Revolutions)

Pretty much everyone in The Matrix is a snazzy dresser, especially when they're in The Wachowski's cyberspace playground which gives the film its title. But extra credit has to be given to Niobe (Jada Pinkett Smith), as she's not a simple black-and-white dresser. With a long red coat that sets her apart from the rest, reflecting her colorful wardrobe in the real world, The Matrix Reloaded and Revolutions were a bit brighter when she battled it out on screen.

Marvello Rubini (La Dolce Vita)

There are certain fashion touchstones of cinema history that will never, ever go out of style. And one such look is the classic suit and sunglasses worn by Marcello Mastroianni’s Marvello Rubini, in one of the greatest Italian movies of all time, La Dolce Vita. You can never go wrong with that black suit, but the eyewear that Federico Fellini's protagonist wears throughout the picture really clinches the win every time.

Elle Woods (Legally Blonde)

Pink is a hard color to work with because, in the wrong context, it could be seen as much too loud. Meanwhile, Legally Blonde icon Elle Woods (Reese Witherspoon) never met a shade of this pigment she didn’t like. Her signature hue throughout both films, this legal eagle soars high in the sky with flying colors; and it never goes out of style. 

Danny Ocean (Ocean’s Eleven)

A friend once told me, “no one looks as cool as Danny Ocean getting out of prison.” Judging by the look George Clooney’s Ocean’s Trilogy mastermind is rocking at the beginning of that first movie, it’s hard to argue. It’s even more difficult to argue that through all three films, the man isn’t bringing his A-game every single time he steps out.

Annie Hall (Annie Hall)

Blazing a trail for women’s fashion, Annie Hall’s eponymous figure took what was traditionally seen as “men’s clothing” and used it as her own statement to the world. Played brilliantly by Diane Keaton, her keen fashion sense was matched by her wicked wit, more often than not being deployed against lovelorn Alvy Singer (Woody Allen). 

Frank Abignale (Catch Me If You Can)

What is it about confidence crooks that gives them such brilliant fashion sense? Perhaps when Frank Sr. (Christopher Walken) told his young son Frank Jr. (Leonardo DiCaprio) about how those Yankees pinstripes bedazzle the competition, he was onto something. As a result, Catch Me If You Can’s “real fake” is seen kitted out in everything from pilot’s uniforms to orange sweaters, and he’s always looking dapper as a result. 

Reynolds Woodcock (Phantom Thread)

“Meticulous” is one word that sums up Phantom Thread’s Reynolds Woodcock (Daniel Day-Lewis). Paul Thomas Anderson’s dark comedy about romance, fashion, and all the illnesses in between saw the Academy Award-winning legend retire in literal style, playing a fashion designer who would never step foot out the door with even a hair out of place.

Ginger McKenna (Casino)

Martin Scorsese’s Casino shows Las Vegas through some of its most tumultuous years. And one of the indicators of how time passes is in the fashion, as Ginger McKenna (Sharon Stone) goes from good-time gal to the trusted wife of casino manager Sam “Ace” Rothstein (Robert DeNiro). Gliding through the years with an effortless eye, Ms. Stone’s costumes maintain an air of control, even when her character seems to be losing that very grasp in life.

Cher Horowitz (Clueless)

Cher Horowitz (Alicia Silverstone) is the ‘90s, period. A fashionista who made something like yellow with black plaid into a work of art, our Clueless hero is anything but when she’s putting together her outfits. Who could ever forget the first time they saw some of Cher’s most signature looks in play?

Jules Winfield (Pulp Fiction)

The look of a simple black suit cannot be understated, especially when someone like Samuel L. Jackson is the person wearing it. As imposing fixer Jules Winfield in Quentin Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction, Jackson wears this outfit for most of the movie’s running time; save for those sequences taking place after one catastrophic accident. Even in a random t-shirt and shorts, the man knows how to make an impression and keep all the Fonzies in the room cool. 

Rachel Chu (Crazy Rich Asians)

While Rachel Chu (Constance Wu) isn’t from the same sort of world as the family of her boyfriend Nick (Henry Golding), that doesn’t stop our Crazy Rich Asians lead from engaging in a makeover. As the film progresses, and through some friendly makeover advice from her best friend (Awkwafina), confidence and fashion are both boosted in equally impressive ways.

Trent (Swingers)

Most would remember the lead characters of Swingers for their big band revival threads that play a big part in their trip to Vegas. However, if you look at the styles that Trent Walker (Vince Vaughn) displays throughout the movie, he is a true example of making anything work. Even his outbursts in a late-night dining situation look sharp, as he knows how to crush a look when he’s relaxed or when he’s switched on.

With all sorts of looks at work for all types, there’s bound to be something here that could give you the upgrade you’ve been hoping to achieve. It often feels like rom-coms are a dime a dozen, but the truth is that the best romantic comedies are ones built on several things. Fans of the genre enjoy snappy dialogue, inventive and/or realistic complications for the central couple, a swoon-worthy love story, and, of course, main characters portrayed by actors who have more than enough on-screen chemistry to make all of those pieces come together. 

What’s great about romantic comedies is that we’ve gotten more than enough couples like this over the past two plus decades, but some of them have either only partnered one time (which, granted, may be because their pairing is still relatively new), or haven’t been in a film together for many years now. So, let’s take a look at the (mostly) rom-com partners that we really think should make another movie together!

Meg Ryan And Tom Hanks

This duo probably feels like a no-brainer to you, and, well, it should! Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks have memorably joined forces for two rom-com hits, Sleepless in Seattle and You’ve Got Mail, plus the 1990 cult favorite romantic comedy, Joe Versus the Volcano, so there’s no reason for them not to really round things out with a fourth film. I’d be down for a second chance romance where they learn to love again, wouldn’t you?

Diane Keaton And Keanu Reeves 

Yes, yes… Already I’m cheating here, but only a tiny bit. While the magnetic on-screen coupling of Diane Keaton and Keanu Reeves wasn’t the main focus of Something’s Gotta Give, I have spent the past 20 years wishing they were. So, let's get these adorably crazy kids back together! They could play any kind of couple (bickering marrieds who are clearly still hot for each other, two folks who shouldn’t get together but can’t help themselves, etc.) and I’d be in the theater on opening night.

Lana Condor And Noah Centineo

Honestly, there might not be a cuter couple on this list. The dreamy teen romance movie pairing of Lana Condor and Noah Centineo was, obviously, gifted to everyone with a Netflix subscription in the To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before trilogy, and there’s a reason that so many people fell head over heels for them. These two sorta sparkle together on screen, and I’d love to see them reunite in a romance (or any comedy) that’s got more of an adult edge to it.

Alison Brie And Jason Sudeikis

We all adore it when a rom-com gives us something different, and 2015’s Sleeping with Other People does just that with its story of friends who openly acknowledge their sexual tension, but purposely avoid doing anything about it so as to not screw up what they have. Alison Brie and Ted Lasso cast lead Jason Sudeikis are amazing as the friends in question, and I’d love to see them bring their casual, but still sexy, chemistry to another film. 

Jenny Slate And Jake Lacy

A true pleasure of watching Obvious Child was seeing the relationship between Jenny Slate and Jake Lacy’s characters develop as she has trouble revealing that she’s getting an abortion several weeks after their one-night stand. They work great as a duo with a clear attraction that’s impeded by a secret, and we’d really appreciate it if we could watch him warm her butter and make her tea in a movie that sees them as fully coupled characters.

Constance Wu And Henry Golding

I cannot tell a lie; some of the reason for Constance Wu and Henry Golding making the list is simply because we are all dying for the Crazy Rich Asians sequel we’ve been promised for several years now. While we wait, I’m hoping we can at least get those two into another fun rom-com where he can bring his posh, suave energy to meet her adorably spunky, girl-next-door verve.

Emma Stone And Ryan Gosling

What’s not to love about Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling, especially when they star opposite each other in a romantic story? They were sweet, sexy, bantery, and slightly goofy together in Crazy, Stupid, Love, then had all of that with more emotional depth in La La Land, and also had the same chemistry in Gangster Squad, but with an added veneer of danger. It’s been a rough few years; the world needs more of their exact thing, OK?

Kate Hudson And Matthew McConaughey

I know, I know! Matthew McConaughey doesn’t make rom-coms anymore, but that’s honestly no reason why he can’t re-team with Kate Hudson, 20 years after they first hit the screen together in How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days. The engaging push-and-pull of their romance in that film can easily be translated to, say, a movie where each is portraying a lawyer on the opposite side of a big murder case. There! Someone make that movie!

Queen Latifah And Common

Just Wright might not be the first movie you think of when it comes to Queen Latifah or romantic comedies, but it’s hard to deny that watching her play off of Common as they slowly go from not-quite-enemies to lovers was a genuine treat. Now all we need is the right vehicle for them so their individual easygoing charm can show us how well-matched they are on screen.

Jennifer Garner And Mark Ruffalo

There’s a reason that 13 Going On 30 is still so popular almost two decades later. That reason is Jennifer Garner’s joyful, weirdo energy as a teen suddenly transplanted to her adult life, sure, but it’s also how Mark Ruffalo calmly reconnects with the childhood friend he’d long ago lost touch with. They're just sweet together, OK? We saw them in The Adam Project. We need more!

Sandra Bullock And Channing Tatum

The luminous and hilarious pairing of Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum was definitely not on my rom-com bingo card, but damn, it was a joy to behold once we got it. In The Lost City, they were perfect as a starchy and grieving romance novelist and her incredibly sweet but somewhat dim cover model who get caught in a life-or-death situation in the jungle, and all I can hope for is that we someday have a sequel to enjoy.

Billy Eichner And Luke Macfarlane

If an opposites attract energy is your thing, there’s no way for you not to enjoy the pairing of Billy Eichner and Luke Macfarlane. The Bros stars only just met up on screen in 2022, but we’d love to see them reunite in a rom-com that switches Eichner’s intense characterization and Macfarlane’s laid-back vibe around for additional laughs.

Meg Ryan And Hugh Jackman

Kate & Leopold is the rare romance where Meg Ryan’s character is less than sweet for much of the film, but watching her early ‘00s driven career woman begin to soften with the attentions of Hugh Jackman’s fancy man from the 1870s was a delight. Now if we can just get them to play off of one another when both are from the modern day, all will be right in the world.

Anne Hathaway And Chris Pine

We all know that The Princess Diaries 2 is so beloved that fans have wanted to bring the cast back for the now in development third movie for nearly 20 years, and part of that was because of the sweet, (sorta) slow burn love story between Anne Hathaway and Chris Pine’s characters. While everyone would love to see them as a long-married couple in a sequel, we’d also take them as, oh, I don’t know, bickering co-workers who can’t deny their attraction, so let’s stop stalling and get this coupling back on the big screen!

Julia Roberts And Hugh Grant

Look, I know that Hugh Grant is fully in his slimy villain era right now and is hilariously against even attempting rom-coms again. But! I think that makes the potential of this Notting Hill pairing coming back together even more appealing. Let him play a con-man who tricks Julia Roberts into falling in love, only to steal all her money and force her to track him down with a hilarious vengeance. I’d buy a ticket for that, OK?

Jennifer Lopez And George Clooney

Sure, sure. I’m cheating this entry a bit because, technically, Jennifer Lopez and George Clooney didn't star in a traditional rom-com together, but who among us can deny that they were HOT in Out of Sight? No one, that’s who! I say we get these two into a proper romantic comedy, but maybe one that’s not another Lopez wedding movie, just to switch things up.

Sanaa Lathan And Omar Epps 

Yes, this is another, more direct, fudging of this article’s concept, because Sanaa Lathan and Omar Epps were a romantic drama pairing in Love & Basketball… but they were SO GOOD TOGETHER. Watching them play out a long-term path to eventual happiness was extremely satisfying, but maybe this time we can use that chemistry of theirs for a couple that has more good times than stressful ones.

Cristin Milioti And Andy Samberg

The chances that Cristin Milioti and Andy Samberg will strike time loop movie gold again after Palm Springs is incredibly unlikely, and we wouldn’t want them to try. Instead, why not let these two portray criminals on the run for separate crimes who accidentally cross paths and fall in love while they’re on the lam? They can give us that same adorably wacky enthusiasm that we all loved the first time around that way!

Kristen Stewart And Aubrey Plaza

If you saw Happiest Season, then you saw the undeniable spark between Kristen Stewart and Aubrey Plaza as their characters (Who weren’t even dating!) dealt with a lot of toxicity during Christmastime. They managed to genuinely bond (and look great doing it) over their similar relationship trauma, so I say we go ahead and give these two an even bubblier romantic comedy where they can actually freakin’ end up as a couple! 

Gemma Chan And Harry Shum Jr. 

Obviously, we didn’t get a real romance between the characters played by Gemma Chan and Harry Shum Jr. in Crazy Rich Asians, but the movie sure did set up the promise of fulfilling the epic love story that was a part of Kevin Kwan’s novel trilogy. Fans got a very brief scene of them looking all cute and dreamy with each other and dancing during the mid-credits scene, so hear me now: WE NEED THAT ASTRID AND CHARLIE SPINOFF, ASAP!

Issa Rae And Kumail Nanjiani

It may be hard to cast two people who have perfect romantic chemistry, but it could be even harder to find a duo who can portray the first glorious blush of falling in love, that same couple once they’ve begun to fall apart, and then play them as they start to get closer… because they’re on the run after being accused of murder. Issa Rae and Kumail Nanjiani are those people, and we’ve been wanting them back on screen since The Lovebirds to do something just as crazy and rom-commy again.

Reese Witherspoon And Josh Lucas

If you’re looking for a bickering duo who are hot together no matter what, that’s Sweet Home Alabama’s Reese Witherspoon and Josh Lucas, for sure. I’m sure they’d be great doing anything on screen, but also doubt anyone would mind if they paired for a story that would let them fight (and fight through) their attraction until they finally admit their feelings for each other.

Rachel McAdams And Domhnall Gleeson

You know what’s coming, right? After being apart for a decade, it’s About Time that Rachel McAdams and Domhnall Gleeson join forces again to bring fans another lovey dovey couple, and we don’t even care what the set up is!

Sarah Hyland And Tyler James Williams

Never has it been more enjoyable to watch a woman who’s not sure about the whole marriage thing date a man who’s very much ready for a long-term commitment than in The Wedding Year, and that was because of the well-matched chemistry/comedic energy of Sarah Hyland and Tyler James Williams. I think these two would be fantastic in an action/adventure rom-com like The Lost City!

Kristen Bell And Dustin Milligan 

Though Kristen Bell and Dustin Milligan starred in The People We Hate at the Wedding, which was more of a straight ahead comedy, they had a definite romantic comedy storyline and played off of each other beautifully. I’m imagining a cinematic rematch for them that involves both of their characters being messy and a bit angry this time, and I think they’ll be a delight to watch once again.

Vivian Oparah And David Jonsson

Even though Vivian Oparah and David Jonsson are a very new rom-com pairing, as their starring vehicle, Rye Lane, debuted in early 2023, there’s no doubting the fizzy joy one gets from watching their characters meet cute and end up slowly becoming attracted to each other over the course of one eventful day. These two can do anything together next, but I don’t think anyone would mind a sequel where we get to see this romance progress!

If nothing else, while we wait to see if these rom-com partners get back together on the big screen, we can all at least go back and enjoy the amazing films they’ve already given us!

When it comes to Apple TV+, they’ve been coming out with hit after hit, whether it be the famous Ted Lasso, or the award-winning Severance, there’s plenty on the streaming service to love. And now, they’re back with the latest ensemble series, Extrapolations. 

The TV show is an anthology drama series that shows the effects of climate change across the world, from different characters that are somehow all connected. In any show like this, there are many stars that you have probably seen somewhere before. Here is where you might have spotted the Extrapolations cast. 

Kit Harington (Nicholas Bilton)

First up on the list is Kit Harington, who plays Nicholas Bilton in Extrapolations. Harington is primarily known for his role as Jon Snow in the Game of Thrones cast, but he’s also had roles in shows such as Gunpowder, and was in movies like Pompeii as well as Eternals. 

Daveed Diggs (Rabbi Marshall Zucker)

Daveed Diggs portrays Rabbi Marshall Zucker in Extrapolations, and the actor has been on a grind recently with his shows and movies. While Diggs is primarily known for his role in the Hamilton cast, he’s the star of Snowpiercer, and was also in big movies such as Soul and Blindspotting. 

Sienna Miller (Rebecca) 

Next up is Sienna Miller, who plays Rebecca. Miller has been in films such as The Lost City of Z, Foxcatcher, American Woman, and G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra. She was also in the TV film, The Girl. 

Meryl Streep (Eve)

Portraying Eve in Extrapolations is Meryl Streep, a name that I’m sure we are all very familiar with. Streep has been in so many movies that it’s hard to even keep track sometimes. I’m sure that somehow, someway, you have heard of her, so let’s go over some of her best roles and where you’ve seen her before.  

Streep got started back in the 1970s on the stage, but later on moved into movies and TV with films such as Julia, Kramer vs. Kramer, Sophie’s Choice, Out of Africa, Death Becomes Her, The Bridges of Madison Country, The Post, Little Women, The Devil Wears Prada, Into the Woods, The Hours, and more. If you want to hear something crazy, she holds the record for the most nominations by an actress for the Academy Awards – 21. 

Besides movies, Streep has done a lot in television, as well. She had a lead role in the miniseries, Holocaust, as well as a starring part in the second season of Big Little Lies. She was also a part of the miniseries, Angels in America, which won her a Primetime Emmy award. 

Michael Gandolfini (Rowan)

The son of James Gandolfini, Michael Gandolfini portrays Rowan in the series. He’s been in films such as Ocean’s 8, and portrayed the younger version of Tony Soprano in The Many Saints of Newark on HBO Max. He is also going to be in Beau is Afraid, coming out later in 2023.

Heather Graham (Hannah)

Moving on, we take a look at Heather Graham, who plays Hannah. She’s been in many films that you might recognize her from, such as Six Degrees of Separation, Boogie Nights, Bowfinger, Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me, Horns and more. She also had a supporting role in Twin Peaks, and was in the shows Scrubs and Californication. 

Tahar Rahim (Omar) 

Tahar Rahim portrays Omar in Extrapolations, and this actor has already been all over in movies and television. Rahim is mainly known for his role as Judas in the film Mary Magdalene, as well as his big part in The Looming Tower, but he’s also been in movies such as The French Prophet, and the miniseries, The Serpent.

Matthew Rhys (Junior) 

Moving on, we take a look at Matthew Rhys, who plays Junior. Rhys is primarily known for his starring role in the famed drama, The Americans, but he’s also been in films such as The Edge of Love, The Post, A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, and more. He’s also the titular character in Perry Mason, and has done voice work in the underrated animated show, The Owl House. 

David Schwimmer (Harris Goldblatt) 

Harris Goldblatt is played by David Schwimmer, and I’m pretty sure most of us are aware of Schwimmer from his time as part of the Friends cast. However, he has plenty of movie work under his belt, including the Madagascar series, Nothing But the Truth, The Pallbearer and more. He was also a part of Band of Brothers, and was one of the stars of The People vs. O.J. Simpson. 

Diane Lane (Martha)

Next up is Diane Lane, who plays Martha and has been in many, many movies. Some of her biggest hits have been Man of Steel, The Cotton Club, Streets of Fire, The Lady Beware, and Hollywoodland. 

Edward Norton (Jonathan) 

Edward Norton plays Jonathan, and he has been around in the film industry for some time. Recently, he was a part of the Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery cast, and was also the lead in The Incredible Hulk, but has starred in many other movies, like Fight Club, Bourne Legacy, and The Grand Budapest Hotel, among others. 

Mia Maestro (Mariama)

Moving on, we have Mia Maestro, who plays Mariama in Extrapolations. Maestro is primarily known for her role in shows such as The Strain and Alias, as well as her parts in The Twilight Saga, and her role in Frida.

Indira Varma (Gita) 

Indira Varma plays Gita and was also a part of the Game of Thrones cast, but has been in other television roles such as on Obi-Wan Kenobi, the Amazon original, Carnival Row, Luther, Human Target and more. She was also in movies like Silent Hours and the Disney+ original movie, The One and Only Ivan. 

Adarsh Gourav (Guarav)

Next up on the list is Adarsh Gourav, who plays Guarav in Extrapolations. The actor is primarily known for his work in Bollywood, as he’s appeared in many Hindi films, but he was also in the American film, The White Tiger in 2020. He was also a part of the online web series, Hostel Daze. 

Keri Russell (Olivia Drew)

Another big name here is Keri Russell, who plays Olivia Drew. Russell is also known from her starring role in The Americans (alongside her real-life partner, Matthew Rhys), as well as her breakout starring role on the college show, Felicity, but has since appeared in many other shows and movies. Most recently, she starred in Cocaine Bear, but has also appeared in films such as Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, We Were Soldiers, and more. 

Gemma Chan (Natasha)

Moving on, we take a look at Gemma Chan, who plays Natasha. Chan was also a part of the Eternals cast, but has appeared in many other movies, such as Don’t Worry Darling, Crazy Rich Asians, Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them, Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit and more. She was also a part of the Humans television series. 

Marion Cotillard (Sylvie)

Marion Cotillard is a French actress who plays Sylvie on Extrapolations. Cotillard is primarily known for her Academy Award-winning role in La Vie en Rose, but has been in many other movies such as Taxi, Inception, The Immigrant, Midnight in Paris, The Dark Knight Rises and others. 

Eiza Gonzalez (Elodie)

Next up on the list is Eiza Gonzalez, who plays Elodie in Extrapolations. The young actress was primarily known for her role in Spanish telenovelas for many years, but has since started to break into Hollywood with many roles in movies such as Baby Driver, I Care A Lot, Godzilla vs. Kong, and 2022’s Ambulance. 

Tobey Maguire (Nicolas) 

You’d really have to be living under a rock to not know who Tobey Maguire is, and thankfully, he’s back in action in Extrapolations, where he plays Nicolas. Maguire is primarily known for his years as Spider-Man, where he played Peter Parker for three films and reprised the role in Spider-Man: No Way Home, but he’s done plenty in the acting industry besides that. 

His biggest roles besides Spider-Man include those in The Great Gatsby, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Pleasantville, The Cider House Rules, Brothers, and many more. He was also recently in 2022’s Babylon, which was nominated for an Academy Award. 

Forest Whitaker (Augustin)

Last but not least, we take a look at Forest Whitaker, who has been in the industry for some time and appeared in many, many big-time movies. He plays Augustin in Extrapolations. Some of Whitaker’s biggest roles thus far have included parts in movies like Platoon, The Great Debaters, The Butler, Respect, The Crying Game, Good Morning Vietnam, and The Last King of Scotland. 

Whitaker has also appeared in such big films like Rogue One: A Star Wars Series, and was also in Black Panther. Currently, he stars in the series, Godfather of Harlem. 

Keep in mind that this isn’t even the complete cast, so if you’re at all interested in seeing anyone else that might not be on this list, be sure to check it out at Apple TV+. Either way, Extrapolations is looking to be an intense show – and with an even more intense cast list. It’ll still be fun, that’s for sure.  

Over a decade ago, the Marvel Cinematic Universe was founded with a principal lineup of characters including Iron Man, Hulk, Captain America, and Thor, and among the many things that has changed since those early years is an increased focus on diversity and youth. In Phase 4 particularly, both on the big screen and the small, MCU fans were introduced to a fantastic roster of new heroes from a wide variety of backgrounds, and they all are expected to contribute in major ways to what’s ahead in the franchise.

Of course, given the scale of the canon at this point, it can be tricky to keep track of all the new names being introduced, so we’ve put together this guide highlighting all of the fresh faces that fans should get used to seeing in Marvel Phase 5 and beyond.

Alaqua Cox As Echo

Marvel fans were first introduced to the awesomeness of Alaqua Cox’s Echo in Hawkeye, where she was introduced as an intense crime boss looking to get revenge for the death of her father. She’ll be back soon in her own solo Disney+ series, which will see her, in part, deal with the consequences from taking a shot at Wilson Fisk, a.k.a. Kingpin.

Awkwafina As Katy

Awkwafina’s Katy is a normal woman who is thrown headfirst into the craziness of the Marvel Cinematic Universe thanks to her friendship with Shang-Chi (more on him later). Where he goes, we expect she will follow and have his back – especially now that she has honed some killer archery skills.

Brian Tyree Henry As Phastos

A member of the Eternals, Brian Tyree Henry’s Phastos has a bit of a dark history in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as it was his incredible ingenuity that in part led to the horrific bombing of Hiroshima during World War II. This led him to put aside his skills as an inventor and focus on living a human-like existence raising a son with his husband.

Danny Ramirez As Joaquin Torres

During Steve Rogers’ run as Captain America, he had Bucky Barnes and Sam Wilson as brothers in arms who always fought by his side, and now that Sam is wearing the star-spangled suit and shield, he has Danny Ramirez’s Joaquin Torres. Fans first meet Joaquin as he is helping Sam during an Air Force mission in The Falcon And The Winter Solider, and we will soon see the characters back together on screen in Captain America: New World Order.

Dominique Thorne As Riri Williams

Move over, Shuri and Peter Parker. There is a new hero in the MCU vying for the title of “most brilliant young inventor.” Dominque Thorne’s Riri Williams makes a remarkable impression as a genius technological mind in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, making her first steps towards being known to the world as Ironheart, and audiences will get to see that journey continue in the upcoming Ironheart Disney+ series.

Florence Pugh As Yelena Belova

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has no shortage of charismatic ass-kickers, but Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova has already made herself stand out from the crowd following Black Widow and the Hawkeye series. The former Russian assassin is, for all intents and purposes, the franchise’s new Black Widow, following the death of Natasha Romanoff, and there is anticipation for everything she has in the works – the standout title being Thunderbolts.

Gemma Chan As Sersi

At the end of Eternals, it looks like the brilliant, matter-transforming Sersi, played by Gemma Chan, is on a path to start living a happy, human-like life – with her relationship with Kit Harrington’s Dane Whitman deepening. Sadly, those plans hit a snag when the Celestial, Arishem, comes to Earth and kidnaps her to space along with the other Eternals still alive and on the planet (including the aforementioned Phastos and the forthcoming Kingo). What’s next for her is unknown, but exciting.

Hailee Steinfeld As Kate Bishop

After decades of fighting for S.H.I.E.L.D. and serving as an Avenger, Clint Barton has certainly earned retirement – but it doesn’t seem he’ll be quite ready to hang up his purple costume until his successor is ready to take on the Hawkeye mantle. Said successor is Hailee Steinfeld’s Kate Bishop: an incredibly gifted and enthusiastic young woman who has a wide variety of skills, but chief among them is her talent with a bow-and-arrow.

Iman Vellani As Kamala Khan

Played by MCU superfan Iman Vellani, Kamala Khan is an Avengers superfan in the canon who lives the dream of gaining powers. In Ms. Marvel, it at first seems that her energy-based powers come from wearing a supernatural bangle, but she has since been recognized as the franchise’s first identified mutant. Expect that to come up when we see her next in The Marvels.

India Rose Hemsworth As Love

We have no idea when we will next see Love, or if she will continue to be played by India Rose Hemsworth in future movies after her debut at the end of Thor: Love And Thunder, but this list would be incomplete without mentioning her. She is the daughter of Gorr The God Butcher, and has remarkable gifts as a result – meaning Thor is going to have his hand’s full in the future as her guardian.

Kathryn Newton As Cassie Lang

Technically, Marvel fans have known Cassie Lang since Phase 2 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (first played by Abby Ryder Fortson), but she is all grown up now following The Blip, and ready to be reintroduced as a new hero: Stature. She’s played by Kathryn Newton in Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania, which features her coming into her own as a scientist and dabbling in her father’s quantum research.

Kumail Nanjiani As Kingo

Like Phastos and Sersi, Kumail Nanjiani’s Kingo was seemingly in big trouble the last time we saw him – taken by Arishem into space to face consequences for their role in halting the birth of the new Celestial being born inside Earth. Not only is the character’s fate unclear, but his incredibly successful, multi-generational Bollywood acting career may be in jeopardy as well.

Lauren Ridloff As Makkari

Unlike the other Eternals who have already been mentioned, Lauren Ridloff’s Makkari didn’t stay on Earth at the end of the 2021 blockbuster – instead choosing to leave the planet with Thena and Druig to find Eternals on other worlds and tell them about their true natures. This plan, however, may change in the wake of the space travelers learning what happened to Phastos, Sersi, and Kingo.

Lia McHugh As Sprite

Once an Eternal, but no more! At the end of Eternals, the forever-youthful Sprite, played by Lia McHugh, undergoes a transformation and becomes truly human thanks to Sersi. Will she enjoy the experience? We’ll have to wait and find out.

Mahershala Ali As Blade

We’ve thus far only heard the voice of Mahershala Ali’s Blade, the infamous comic book vampire hunter, but soon he will be getting his very own MCU spotlight with the Phase 5 release of his solo film. Be warned, bloodsuckers!

May Calamawy As Layla El-Faouly

Indiana Jones is cool and all, but is he imbued with superpowers as a result of being the avatar for an Egyptian god? The answer is no, and that’s the edge that May Calamawy’s Layla El-Faouly will always maintain over her fellow pop culture archeologist. She made her MCU debut as the wife of Marc Spector (more on him in a bit) in Disney+’s Moon Knight, and by the finale she takes on the superhero mantle Scarlet Scarab.

Meng'er Zhang As Xu Xialing

The leader of the Ten Rings is a daunting position, as the organization orchestrates crime on a global level, but Meng’er Zhang’s Xu Xialing looks pretty damn comfortable in the role in the end credits of Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings. She is officially the successor to The Mandarin in the MCU, and we’ll have to wait and see how she wields her power.

Michaela Coel As Aneka

It’s a high honor in Wakanda to be named a member of the Dora Milaje, but Michaela Coel’s Aneka gets an even bigger privilege than that in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. In the blockbuster she is featured fighting alongside Okoye wearing one of the two Midnight Angel suits, and the will and skill demonstrated in the battle against Talocan will surely only fortify her reputation among the royals going forward.

Oscar Isaac As Marc Spector/Steven Grant

Who is the hero known as Moon Knight? That’s a complicated question, as his secret identity is fractured as a result of him having dissociative identity disorder. He was born Marc Spector, who becomes a skilled soldier in his adulthood, but he also lives a life as Steven Grant, a museum curator in England. Obviously only making things more complicated is that he is the avatar for the justice-obsessed Egyptian god Khonshu.

Simu Liu As Shang-Chi

Xu Xialing may control the organization known as the Ten Rings, but Simu Liu’s Shang-Chi is the one who actually possesses the incredibly powerful bands that give the wearer supernatural abilities. At the end of Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings, the hero is shown getting back to a somewhat normal life and hanging out with Katy, but it most definitely won’t be long until he returns to a good fight against evil.

Sophia Di Martino As Sylvie

Sophia Di Martino’s Sylvie is unique on this list in that she is the only one not from the main MCU universe; she is a version of Loki from an alternate dimension with a quest to destroy the Time Variance Authority. She actually accomplished this task at the end of Loki Season 1…but we don’t know yet how it has changed her existence.

Tatiana Maslany As Jennifer Walters/She-Hulk

It’s not easy being both a Hulk and a lawyer, but Tatiana Maslany’s Jennifer Walters, a.k.a. She-Hulk, makes it work in the meta Disney+ comedy series, She-Hulk: Attorney At Law. She’s mostly focused on the legal realm for now, namely practicing superhero law, but fans anticipate a call to action with the Avengers before too long.

Tenoch Huerta As Namor

Is Namor a hero or a villain? That depends on your perspective – but he’s certainly a hero in the eyes of the people of Talocan: the underwater nation he rules over like a god. Like Kamala Khan, he’s a mutant and he has remarkable abilities beyond his capacity to live underwater. He can fly thanks to Hermes-like wings on his ankles, and he is both phenomenally strong and durable.

Teyonah Parris As Monica Rambeau

The life of Teyonah Parris’ Monica Rambeau changes in every way during the events of WandaVision. Working as an agent of S.W.O.R.D., she is sent to investigate a strange anomaly in northern New Jersey – and not only does she literally get sucked into Scarlet Witch’s grief-related drama, but she ends up gaining superpowers. We’ll see her put those skills to use in The Marvels, where she’ll be featured opposite both Ms. Marvel and Captain Marvel.

Xochitl Gomez As America Chavez

Phase 5 has been called the second phase of The Multiverse Saga – and that could suggest that we’ll end up seeing huge things coming from Xochitl Gomez’s America Chavez. As established in Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness, the young hero has the unique ability to jump across universes, and that should be a pretty handy skill as existence gets closer and closer to potential chaos and nothingness.

SPOILERS are ahead for Don’t Worry Darling. Check out Olivia Wilde's thriller, now playing in theaters, before reading on. 

I don’t know about you, but I left the theater still quite worried about Florence Pugh’s Alice. After two hours of teases and hints at her actual fate in the peculiar 1950s town of Victory, not enough was answered. Sometimes a cliffhanger ending like Don’t Worry Darling is the right call, but I had so many questions and gripes with how the concept was handled that I was left feeling the movie’s mystery was more empty than satisfying. But when I read the original ending to Olivia Wilde’s alleged drama-filled movie, I became more disappointed. Via the initial script, Don't Worry Darling could have fixed a few of the problems I had with the movie’s fade to black. Let’s talk about it. 

Don’t Worry Darling was originally written by brothers Carey and Shane Van Dyke before it was placed on the 2019 Black List, which is an annual survey of the “most-liked” screenplays that were not picked up by producers and studios to become movies. Olivia Wilde reportedly came across the script through the Black List and decided it would be her next film. Wilde’s Booksmart writer Katie Silberman then did a rewrite on the script, and among the changes were some big adjustments to the finale. 

What Was The Original Don’t Worry Darling Ending? 

In the original third act of Don’t Worry Darling, Alice, who is named Evelyn in the script, follows her husband Jack, played by Harry Styles, who's called Clifford in the script. As her suspicions grow about Victory, she watches him go into a house with a "For Sale" sign in front of it, and when she goes in and finds another sign called “Alt-Life Reality.” While she’s not able to get inside the house further, she goes into her husband’s car and finds his briefcase containing ads for the simulation she is in that reads “Successful marriages start in the kitchen!” alongside other sexist slogans and images, including lewd sexual drawings drawn by her husband. She then goes back to that "For Sale" house through a window where she finds herself in 2050, outside of the simulation. 

It’s then Alice/Evelyn learns her husband is a Fry’s Electronics "Employee of the Month" and sees divorce papers addressed to their names. She goes on his computer in real life and learns that the Alt-Life Reality program is a “society of men, by men, and for men,” and watches a disturbing intro video where Chris Pine’s character further explains the twist of the movie. Apparently her husband had to fake her death in order to get her in the simulation. She then finds articles of her going missing, a police search for her and her loved ones mourning her once she is never found, all the while thinking she's a '50s housewife in her ex-husband's fantasy. 

Alice/Evelyn then goes back into the simulation where she has a confrontation with Jack/Clifford before he realizes she’s escaped. She goes back to business as usual before making him an elaborate dinner and hitting him with a shovel and tying him to a bed. When he wakes, it’s then that we learn his intentions: “I wanted us to be happy again” after their failed marriage. The pair go into all their dirty laundry over the years. Alice/Evelyn goes back to 2050, but Jack/Clifford cuts himself free and follows her through the portal. 

In 2050, the pair engage in a physical fight before she stabs him in the ribs with a kitchen knife. Then somehow Alice/Evelyn is back in the 1950s, snatched up by the Alt-Reality team, where Chris Pine’s character tries to convince her that it is reality and she’s gone insane. In the final scene, Alice/Evelyn is at a psychiatric ward when Olivia Wilde’s character Bunny (Betsy in the script) brings her flowers and whispers to her of a nearby portal, and they walk out together, finally free of Victory (hopefully). 

How It Compares To Olivia Wilde’s Movie

Here’s why I like the original ending better. For one, Alice finds her own way out of the simulation rather than being caught by her husband and taken away. It’s more of an active ending for our protagonist rather than her being thrust into learning of her fate. We also get to know more about the kind of man her husband is rather than what happened in the movie, which seems to somewhat underplay his decision to take her away from her normal life by only revealing it at the end and barely developing Jack’s character, along with many others. This includes Kiki Layne’s, who even shared she had “cut” scenes. I like the more gruesome details of him faking her death and Alice getting to see the exact images that inspired him to go into the simulation, including an introductory video for his Alt-Life Reality, which Chris Pine would have absolutely crushed. All this hits home the message of the film a lot better. 

Additionally, I really like the idea of Olivia Wilde’s Bunny being the one who ultimately saves Alice after she is thrust back into the simulation. The original ending is a good one-two-three punch of a finale: one being learning about the simulation, two being placed back in the simulation under the guise she really was crazy, and three being one of the other women in the simulation listening to her cries for help earlier in the film and acting on them. It’s night and day compared to us basically learning the twist, then sitting with it and having a ton of questions in the fallout of the finale, all on top of whether there really were big tensions on the Don't Worry Darling set. 

While some of the same beats are hit in the Don’t Worry Darling, the original script involved more attention to the twist after most of the movie had alluded to one without much focus placed on making it a satisfying ending. As CinemaBlend’s own review of Don’t Worry Darling suggested, it “drags far more than any thriller should,” which then makes the ending suffer when it doesn’t do enough to quench the thirst of solving the mystery we sat with for way too long. 

In the original finale, it’s more fleshed out and there’s a lot more story on the other side of learning Victory is part of a simulation. Most importantly, Florence Pugh’s character and many others have more things to do and have more depth to them than 1950s dress-up. 

It’s finally that time – Don’t Worry Darling has officially been released in theaters after tons of press about supposed drama that has nearly eclipsed interest in the intriguing plot. The movie tells the story of a young couple who seemingly live in the perfect utopian neighborhood in the 1950s, but as secrets about this “Victory Project” begin to be unveiled, the tension grows thick. 

Directed by Booksmart director, Olivia Wilde, Don’t Worry Darling has a star-studded list of cast members that have done so much in their time in the spotlight, from Florence Pugh, to Harry Styles and Chris Pine. Here is where you’ve seen the Don’t Worry Darling cast before. 

Florence Pugh (Alice)

First off on this list, we start with the star of Don’t Worry Darling, Florence Pugh, who plays Alice. Pugh has been making her name known these last few years. If this is somehow the first time you have heard of her, I’d be shocked, because she has been in so many amazing projects that you need to watch now if you haven’t. 

She started off her career with appearances in films like The Falling and Lady Macbeth, and gained further prominence when she appeared in Fighting with My Family. However, since then, she’s appeared in huge films, including starring in the A24 horror hit, Midsommar, Little Women (which scored her an Academy Award nomination), and most recently, joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Yelena Belova, the adoptive sister of Natasha Romanoff, and starred in Black Widow and in the Disney+ Marvel show, Hawkeye. 

She is also set to reprise the role of Yelena in the upcoming Marvel Phase 5 movie, Thunderbolts, where she’ll star alongside big names such as Sebastian Stan, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and more, and will have a starring role in the Dune 2 cast. 

Harry Styles (Jack)

Next up for the cast of Don’t Worry Darling we have Harry Styles, who plays Jack, Alice’s husband. While Styles hasn’t done as much in film as the rest of his co-stars, he’s known for a far bigger reason – his music career. First appearing on The X Factor, he was a part of the widely successful and internationally known boy band, One Direction, before they broke up in 2016. 

However, Styles didn’t stop his music career there and decided to go solo, releasing several big hits such as “Sign of the Times,” “Watermelon Sugar,” “As It Was,” and more over the course of the last few years. Truly, he has taken over the industry. 

Even so, Style has been seen in some movie and TV work prior to his role in Don’t Worry Darling. He had a role in the Christoper Nolan film, Dunkirk, and has appeared on Saturday Night Live before, several times as a musical guest, but also as a host for one episode. He’s also starring in the upcoming My Policeman, and has been praised for his performance in the film. 

Olivia Wilde (Bunny)

Olivia Wilde, who directs Don’t Worry Darling, also stars in the film as Bunny, Alice’s best friend in the neighborhood. Wilde got her breakthrough on television dramas with starring roles in shows like Skin and The O.C., as well as the medical drama, House, and she’s been in plenty of amazing films since then. 

Some of her most known include Tron: Legacy, Cowboys & Aliens, The Incredible Burt Wonderstone, Butter, Rush, Meadowland, The Longest Week, Richard Jewell, and more. She was also a part of the DC League of Super-Pets voice cast in 2022, and is set to appear in the highly anticipated Damien Chazelle flick, Babylon. 

Mentioned in the intro, she also directed the coming-of-age film, Booksmart, and Don’t Worry Darling is her directorial follow up. 

Gemma Chan (Shelley)

Moving on, we take a look now at Gemma Chan, who plays Shelley in Don’t Worry Darling. Chan has been making strides in Hollywood over the last few years with some great appearances in movies. Most recently, she was the star of the Eternals cast, one of the latest superhero teams to be introduced in Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. 

However, Chan has done plenty of other work in film as well. Some of her biggest roles include parts in Crazy Rich Asians, Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit, Transformers: The Last Knight, Mary Queen of Scots, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Raya and the Last Dragon, and more. 

Chan has also had several supporting roles on television that include parts in shows like Sherlock, Fresh Meat, True Love, Doctor Who, and many more. 

KiKi Layne (Margaret)

Next up on the cast list for Don’t Worry Darling is KiKi Layne, who plays Margaret in the film. Layne has appeared in a variety of movies prior to her role in Don’t Worry Darling. 

Her biggest role thus far was playing Tish Rivers in the film If Beale Street Could Talk, but she’s also appeared in movies like Native Son, Captive State, The Old Guard, Coming 2 America and more. She was also a part of the Chip N’ Dale: Rescue Rangers cast, and is set to appear in The Old Guard 2.

Chris Pine (Frank)

Chris Pine plays Frank in Don’t Worry Darling, and he’s done plenty in Hollywood for many years. The first film he ever appeared in was in The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement, but since then he’s been in so many blockbuster hits, such as the Star Trek film series, both Wonder Woman films, Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit, and more. 

Some of his biggest roles besides these are in Into the Woods, Hell or High Water, The Finest Hours, A Wrinkle in Time, Outlaw King, The Contractor, and Rise of the Guardians. He’s also set to appear in the upcoming film, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves as Elgin. 

Nick Kroll (Dean)

Last but not least on this cast list of main characters in Don’t Worry Darling, we take a look at Nick Kroll, who plays Dean. Kroll is an actor and comedian who has created and starred in several shows. He created the series Kroll Show, as well as The Oh, Hello Show. Kroll also co-created (and voices) the adult animated Netflix series, Big Mouth, a show that actually just got a spinoff called Human Resources. 

He has also done a ton of voice work, including parts in Sausage Party, The Addams Family, Sing, and more. In terms of live-action appearances, Kroll has taken on roles in movies like The House, Uncle Drew, How It Ends, Operation Finale, and others. 

With such a star-studded cast, Don’t Worry Darling surely has plenty of talent going for it. And hopefully after this film, they’ll go on to do plenty of other great things in the industry. 

It is not unusual for an actor to play more than one comic book character role. Sometimes this means they first star in a DC movie before switching sides to the Marvel movies (and vice versa) or appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe years after playing an entirely different character from Marvel Comics in a film that predates the shared universe’s creation.

Tara Strong - Miss Minutes (Loki), Mainframe (Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3)

Famed voice actor Tara Strong has played multiple iconic comic book characters, including two in the MCU alone. She made her franchise debut on the Disney+ series Loki as the Time Variance Authority’s animated, AI mascot, Miss Minutes, and later cameoed in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 as Mainframe – a member of the OG GOTG from the comics who was previously voiced by Miley Cyrus in Vol. 2.  

David Dastmalchian - Kurt Goreshter (Ant-Man), Veb (Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania)

Another actor known for many, many comic book character roles is David Dastmalchian, who gave a memorable appearance in the first two Ant-Man movies as Scott Lang’s (Paul Rudd) Russian-born, computer hacker friend, Kurt Goreshter. While Kurt did not appear in the third installment from 2023, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Dastmalchian still got to be a part of the adventure as the voice of Veb – a creature who helps Scott and Cassie (Kathryn Newton) understand the Quantum Realm’s inhabitants by feeding them his ooze.

Seth Green - Stark Expo Fan (Iron Man 2), Howard The Duck (Guardians Of The Galaxy)

The post-credit sequence from 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy confirmed that, in the MCU, there exists Howard the Duck, who was voiced by Seth Green for a brief, but memorable, cameo as the fowl private eye who would make subsequent appearances. Four years earlier, Green made an even more brief appearance in Iron Man 2 as a fan of Tony Stark seen at his expo.

Michelle Yeoh – Aleta Ogord (Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2), Ying Nan (Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings)

Before earning an Oscar for her performance in one of the best Multiverse movies, Everything Everywhere All At Once, Michelle Yeoh entered the Marvel Multiverse with her cameo in 2017’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 as Aleta Ogord – one of the original members from the team’s comic book iteration. Four years later, the actor seemed to create a rift in the timeline when she appeared in the Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings cast as the title hero’s aunt, Ying Nan. 

Linda Cardellini – Laura Barton (Various), Lylla (Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3)

In Avengers: Age of Ultron, the team was introduced to Clint Barton’s (Jeremy Renner) wife, Laura, whom Linda Cardellini would reprise in Avengers: Endgame and the Disney+ TV show, Hawkeye. In 2023, the Freaks and Geeks cast alum would reunite with Scooby-Doo scribe James Gunn to voice Rocket Raccoon’s friend, Lylla, in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

Nathan Fillion – Monstrous Inmate (Guardians Of The Galaxy), Karja (Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3), Headpool (Deadpool & Wolverine)

Another actor known for his frequent collaborations with James Gunn (Slither, The Suicide Squad) is Nathan Fillion, who voiced an alien prisoner threatening Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) in 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy before receiving a bigger role in Vol. 3 as the Orgosphere’s cocky head of security, Karja. The former Firefly cast member became an MCU triple-dipper with his cameo in Deadpool & Wolverine voicing Headpool, which also marks his second time playing a disembodied head after his role on one of Fillion's best TV shows, Santa Clarita Diet.

Sean Gunn – Rocket Raccoon, Kraglin (Various)

The Guardians of the Galaxy’s furry weapons expert, Rocket Raccoon, is a role shared between Academy Award nominee Bradley Cooper providing his Boston-accented voice and director James Gunn’s brother, Sean Gunn, performing the mo-cap on set. Gunn has also appeared “alongside himself” on several occasions, as recently as Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, as former Ravager, Kraglin.

Laura Haddock – Autograph Seeker (Captain America: The First Avenger), Meredith Quill (Guardians Of The Galaxy Movies)

Speaking of Guardians of the Galaxy stars, most fans are likely to recognize British actor Laura Haddock as Peter Quill’s mother, Meredith, in the cold open flashbacks from the first movie and its sequel. However, the Downton Abbey: A New Era cast member’s MCU tenure actually dates back to 2011’s Captain America: The First Avenger, in which she plays a 1940s-era woman affectionately approaching Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) for an autograph. The characters’ resemblance led to a fan theory suggesting Cap is Star-Lord’s real grandfather, which James Gunn later debunked.

Kenneth Choi – Jim Morita (Captain America: The First Avenger), Principal Morita (Spider-Man: Homecoming)

Speaking of Captain America: The First Avenger stars, Private Jim Morita — Steve Rogers’ Japanese-American teammate on the Howling Commandos — was played by Kenneth Choi. The actor (also part of the DC Extended Universe as a Yakuza boss in Suicide Squad) would later appear in Spider-Man: Homecoming as Morita’s grandson, who also happens to be Peter Parker’s (Tom Holland) high school principal.

Benedict Cumberbatch – Doctor Strange, Dormammu (Doctor Strange)

An interesting example of a Marvel actor appearing as two different characters in the same movie occurs in Doctor Strange. Benedict Cumberbatch debuted as one-time Sorcerer Supreme Stephen Strange in director Scott Derrickson’s visually stunning 2016 fantasy, in which he also provided the voice of the ruler of the Dark Dimension, Dormammu. Talk about being your own worst enemy.

Clancy Brown – Ray Schoonover (Daredevil, The Punisher), Surtur (Thor: Ragnarok)

Another actor who gave a memorable Marvel movie performance as a giant CGI villain is Clancy Brown, who was the voice of the Fire Demon, Surtur, in 2017’s Thor: Ragnarok. That same year, the SpongeBob SquarePants star (also famous for voicing Superman nemesis, Lex Luthor in many animated DC titles) would reprise his Daredevil role as Major Schoovover on the short-lived spin-off, The Punisher.

Patton Oswalt – The Koenig Brothers (Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.), Pip The Troll (Eternals)

Comedian Patton Oswalt has lent his distinct voice to several comic book characters, including a troll named Pip in the mid-credits scene from Eternals in 2021. Before then, he would appear on several episodes of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. as four different characters: identical quintuplets Sam, Eric, Billy, and Thurston Koenig, making him the current record holder for the most MCU-canon characters portrayed by one person.

Enver Gjokaj - Young Cop (The Avengers), Daniel Sousa (Agent Carter, Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.)

One example of an actor who debuted in the MCU with something small before re-emerging with something much bigger is Enver Gjokaj. He played an unnamed police officer in 2012’s The Avengers before starring on Agent Carter and the final season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. as World War II soldier-turned-strategic operative, Daniel Sousa.

Gemma Chan – Minn-Erva (Captain Marvel), Sersi (Eternals)

Outside of those who played two characters in the same movie, English actor Gemma Chan has one of the smallest windows of time between her first MCU character and her second. In 2019, she donned blue makeup to play Kree Imperial warrior Minn-Erva in Captain Marvel and, in literally the same year, was announced as part of the Eternals cast in the role of Sersi.

Alfre Woodard – Miriam Sharpe (Captain America: Civil War), Black Mariah (Luke Cage)

Someone who can top Gemma Chan’s record in time between her characters’ official appearances is Alfre Woodard. The Academy Award nominee appeared in one memorable scene from 2016’s Captain America: Civil War, opposite Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark, as Miriam Sharpe — a woman grieving the unseen death of her son during the final act of Avengers: Age of Ultron. That same year, just months later, she debuted on Luke Cage as Mariah “Black Mariah” Dillard, whose cousin is Harlem crime boss Cornell “Cottonmouth” Stokes.

Mahershala Ali – Cottonmouth (Luke Cage), Blade (Eternals)

Speaking of Cottonmouth, the crime boss on Luke Cage would turn out to be only the beginning of Mahershala Ali’s legacy in the MCU. While the two-time Academy Award winner’s new take on vampire-hunter Blade has yet to be seen, he debuted the character in a vocal cameo from Eternals’ post-credit scene. 

Chris Hemsworth – Thor, One Of Hajo’s Three Heads (Thor: Ragnarok)

It is hard to imagine a Marvel character better suited for Chris Hemsworth to play than the God of Thunder, but, believe it or not, the title hero of Thor: Ragnarok is not his only role from the funny 2017 blockbuster. Only eagle-eyed fans noticed that the Australian actor also played one of the three heads of Hajo — a gladiator from Sakaar who tried to help save Asgard from Hela (Cate Blanchett).

Taika Waititi – Korg, One Of Hajo’s Three Heads (Thor: Ragnarok)

Actually, Hemsworth is not the only well-known star of Thor: Ragnarok to share the role of Hajo. The film’s own director, Taika Waititi, also appeared as one of the gladiator’s three heads, in addition to providing the voice of fan-favorite, rock-skinned alien, Korg, and in the same frame, too!

I am not sure if there is or could ever be a weirder example of the MCU’s double-dipping phenomenon than those last two. However, I would love to see a challenger step up to the plate someday. Of course, considering the franchise is now in a stage known as “The Multiverse Saga,” it seems like it is a distinct possibility. 

It’s now been four summers since Crazy Rich Asians hit theaters and swept the box office off its feet as a rare romantic comedy that could make bank. Not too soon after its success, it was announced that Kevin Kwan’s entire trilogy would be seen on the big screen. Well… where is it? The franchise’s star Constance Wu has shared a couple updates at least.

Constance Wu played the movie’s leading lady, Rachel Chu, a New York University economics professor who finds love in Nick Young (played by Henry Golding), but is then placed in the middle of an awkward crossfire when she travels with him home to Singapore for a wedding. Here’s what Wu shared about what’s going on with Crazy Rich Asians 2: 

Wu was speaking to ScreenRant about her new series The Terminal List, which she stars in with Chris Pratt, and it was during that conversation that actress broke a long silence about the next Crazy Rich Asians movie. As she shared, there’s some movement on the rom-com sequel, with filming on the producers' minds. Plus, she shared a cute nugget about being great friends with Awkwafina, who played Rachel’s best friend Goh Peik Lin in the 2018 movie. 

After Crazy Rich Asians, there are two more novels that star Rachel and Nick: China Rich Girlfriend and Rich People Problems. Back in 2018, it was announced that the sequels would be filmed back-to-back in 2020, but then 2020 must have happened. Plus, there’s the fact that just about every member of the Crazy Rich Asians cast has been busy getting even more famous since the release of the rom-com and going from project to project. 

The latest news we’ve heard about what’s next for Crazy Rich Asians prior to Wu’s words is that there was a shakeup in the writer’s room, with newcomer writer Amy Wang now penning the script. The change came after there was a pay dispute between one of the scribes of the first movie for the sequels. Adele Lim, who wrote the first movie alongside Peter Chiarelli, decided to exit the projects due to being offered significantly less money than her male co-writer. 

Right now, we’re also not sure if Jon M. Chu will still direct the movie either, considering the director has been in pre-production on the two Wicked movies he’ll helm. We’ll keep you updated on the Crazy Rich Asians sequels as we learn more about them. Mr. Malcolm’s List is the latest regency romance to dazzle fans of the genre. But there is a major actor who got away from wearing a corset and being part of some social season debauchery: Gemma Chan. The British actress has been really making a name for herself in recent years with roles in movies like Crazy Rich Asians and Raya and the Last Dragon, and while she originated a role, we finally know why she didn’t star in Mr. Malcolm’s List. 

When Deadline announced Mr. Malcolm’s List casting back in 2019, Gemma Chan was named as the lead of the movie alongside Freida Pinto, the latter who did end up starring in the romance as Selena Dalton. However, Zawe Ashton ended up replacing Chan. When CinemaBlend spoke to the film’s director Emma Holly Jones, she said this:

Gemma Chan actually got to play the role of Julia Thistlewaite in a 10-minute short for Mr. Malcolm’s List, which much of the cast of the film shot first before the movie was greenlit to viral success. The viral short movie, which came out in 2019, starred Freida Pinto, Sope Dirisu, Oliver Jackson-Cohen and other actors, who all came back for the feature. However, Gemma Chan ended up filming Eternals around the same time and the role was reportedly given to Chan’s Crazy Rich Asians co-star Constance Wu before she dropped out as well and Zawe Ashton came in. Jones also said this: 

Once viewing 2022 movie release, Mr. Malcolm’s List the movie and short certainly show that the movie had been sharply planned for sometime. And it’s interesting to see Gemma Chan in the role of Julia, bringing something different to the role than Zawe Ashton did. Check it out: 

The movie features the rare, but ever growing inclusion in the regency genre, which actors Sope Dirisu and Freida Pinto particularly embraced with their characters. The release of the book-to-movie adaptation may come after the success of Bridgerton, but the short came out nearly two years before the first season.

While there had been a lot of buzz surrounding the Olivia Wilde-directed tale since she, allegedly, fired Shia LaBeouf in the fall of 2020, with much of that buzz surrounding the reported romance between Wilde and the star who replaced LaBeouf, pop superstar Harry Styles, what do we actually know about the movie itself?

Film fans out there will be glad to know that the answer is that we actually do know quite a bit about the semi-mysterious psychological thriller that is Don’t Worry Darling, and we’re here now to give you a few quick things that you need to know about the movie!

Don’t Worry Darling Released On September 23, 2022

As noted above, the movie did, indeed, head into theaters this year, after a few delays got in the way of the filming process. In mid-September of 2021, director Olivia Wilde showed a few quick scenes from her creepy looking new movie on Twitter, when announcing that Don’t Worry Darling would open on September 23, 2022, making it one of this fall’s big movies to hit theaters or streaming.

The Movie Stars Florence Pugh, Chris Pine, And Many Others

If there have just been way too many movies that have debuted in the past couple of years for you to keep up with information on all of them, you should be incredibly encouraged to know that the Don’t Worry Darling cast is stacked with a number of well-known and beloved stars.

The film, for instance, is listed among Florence Pugh’s upcoming movies and TV shows, as well as Chris Pine’s new movies. As mentioned earlier, Harry Styles (who will have some steamy scenes with on-screen wife Pugh) is also in the movie, and he appears alongside KiKi Layne, Gemma Chan, Nick Kroll, Olivia Wilde (who joked about being the only person they could still afford after setting the rest of the impressive cast list), comedian Kate Berlant, and several others in what looks to be a very brain-twisty new movie.

The Period Piece Focuses On A Utopian Community With Secrets

Now we can get to the big info, which is all about the story of the thriller. For many months, all we’d heard is that the movie would follow Pugh’s young housewife in the 1950s, who begins to suspect that the seemingly utopian community she’s moved into with her husband (Styles, who's also now starring in Amazon's My Policeman), is really keeping some big, terrible secrets. With the release of the official synopsis (via Variety), we can now confirm that and quite a bit more:

Don’t Worry Darling Is Olivia Wilde’s Second Directorial Effort

Olivia Wilde is still, certainly, best known to many as the star of television shows like House, and movies like Tron: Legacy and People Like Us (where she appeared with Don’t Worry Darling star Chris Pine), but that began to change with her feature length directorial debut, Booksmart, in 2019. The high school comedy was a hit with audiences and critics alike, and likely led to a number of other directing opportunities for Wilde, who’d previously only been behind the camera for one short film and two music videos.

She likely had her pick of some great projects for her next movie, and Wilde decided to make this her second directorial effort. Even though she’s spoken about how nervous she was to make the switch from comedy to something so much darker and different, it sounds like she turned to some amazing classics for inspiration for her new film.

While speaking to the crowd at CinemaCon in April of 2022 (via Variety), Wilde revealed some of the inspirations behind her new movie (which was written by Booksmart’s co-writer, Katie Silberman) and noted that modern classics Inception, The Matrix, and The Truman Show, came into play while crafting the story, while the director looked toward Fatal Attraction and Indecent Proposal while embarking on her latest directorial effort. About the story of the new film, Wilde said:

I’m gonna be straight with you guys. Me and movies have had a pretty rough ride the past few years. Either I’ve failed to get truly excited about many movies that everyone else seemed over the moon about, or by the time I finally saw a trailer any interest I had in the film had cooled to ice age levels. This has gone on for just long enough that when I actually found myself, for the first time in years, genuinely loving the idea of both a new movie and going into a theater to see it (Thanks, The Lost City!), the notion was very surprising to me.  

Now, though, I’ve spent several weeks with my movie-going attention turned to another film: the Olivia Wide-directed picture Don’t Worry Darling. This upcoming entry into the new movie releases has me excited for a movie because of some very specific factors, which may hit home for many other film fans, seeing as how it's among our most highly anticipated of 2022. Here are five reasons why I’m really excited for Don’t Worry Darling!

Chris Pine Is Playing A Bad Guy

Chris Pine has played several good guys in his career, and he’s been praised for it a lot. Of course, one of the roles he’s probably best known for is that of Captain Kirk in the J.J. Abrams Star Trek movies, but, to be honest, I don’t totally get down with that Chris Pine (his Steve Trevor in the Wonder Woman movies, notwithstanding), despite liking the actor in general, and now I know why: Chris Pine might be better as a bad guy. 

Don’t believe me? Put down Star Trek Into Darkness and pick up Smokin’ Aces. Release your hold on Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit so you can take up Horrible Bosses 2. Or, if you need to ease into it, pick movies where Pine plays men of dubious character, like Hell or High Water (he’s robbing banks, y’all), and Z for Zachariah (he looks like he’s up to no good the whole time), or even check out the excellent TV series, I Am the Night (basically a decent dude, but seriously damaged). 

What I’m saying is, I think Chris Pine does much of his best work when he can play unhinged, uncaring, dangerous, tricky, and/or messy as fuck, and with Pine saying on the Happy Sad Confused podcast that he’s playing “a fucking cult leader” who is “such a creep,” I’m THRILLED that we’ll get to see this version of him in Don’t Worry Darling.

It Looks Spooky But Not Like Straight Up Horror

I, like many people, have been trying to find as many ways as possible to soothe myself in these past couple of years, but even without that personal edict can confirm that I have NEVER been a fan of horror movies and scaring myself on purpose. I have a few exceptions (Alien and Aliens both count), but what I enjoy a lot more freely are movies/shows that bring me some good spooky times without much in the vein of straight up horror (The X-Files will forever have my heart).

With what we’ve seen from the Don’t Worry Darling trailer, this means that I seem to have very good reason to be excited for the movie. There are several freaky moments featured, and with us knowing that the plot involves a seemingly utopian community that a young woman begins to realize is hiding some big secrets, it promises to deliver the (either supernatural or technologically-based) chills I enjoy without scaring me so badly that I have more trouble sleeping at night than I already do. It appears that there will be enough to make audiences think deeply about the spooky shenanigans (as with the scene in the screenshot above this section), and I’m 100% ready for that kind of story.

The Cast Is Insane

I’ve already talked about the Chris Pine of it all when it comes to Don’t Worry Darling, but if you’ve been paying attention to news about the upcoming film you will know that he is far from the only big name involved. Even knowing that it’s not uncommon to have casts filled top to toes with famous folks and beloved acting talents, this movie has still racked up a banger of a cast. 

We’re talking about Oscar nominee/Black Widow and Little Women star Florence Pugh leading the cast, with pop superstar Harry Styles as her husband. Director Olivia Wilde ended up taking a role in Don’t Worry Darling, with the cast also including KiKi Layne (If Beale Street Could Talk, The Old Guard), Gemma Ghan (Crazy Rich Asians, Eternals), Nick Kroll (Netflix’s Big Mouth and Human Resources), Timothy Simons (Veep, Candy), burlesque queen Dita Von Teese, and many more. When combining this cast with what promises to be a wild story, how can you not be excited for Don’t Worry Darling?

I Enjoyed Booksmart And Really Want To See How Olivia Wilde Handles The Story

Olivia Wilde has been on our TV and movie screens on a regular basis for nearly two decades now, and while we all loved watching her on shows like The O.C. and House, and in movies like Tron: Legacy, Rush, and Richard Jewell, I think it’s fair to say that one of her biggest professional accomplishments to date is her freshman, feature-length directorial effort, Booksmart.

The 2019, R-rated comedy was beloved by critics and viewers alike, and really put Wilde on the map for her directing skills. I, like many others, thoroughly enjoyed Booksmart, and was intrigued by Wilde’s choice to go in such a different direction with her second film. While Wilde has admitted to being nervous about making the switch from teen comedy to the dark period drama that is Don’t Worry Darling, I’m very excited to see how she handles this story. Honestly? I already think she probably nailed it.

I’m All-In On Period Pieces Where The Focus Of The Story For Non-White Characters Isn’t Racism

Having not seen anything but the trailer for Don’t Worry Darling, I can’t say for certain that the characters played by actors like KiKi Layne and Gemma Chan won’t have to deal with any racism at all in the 1950s-set film, but my guess is that it won’t be the focus of their stories if they do, and that is certainly something that I’m ready to celebrate.

Obviously, stories about racism are important, but, so often it seems like movies and TV shows only want to show non-white people dealing with the traumas and stresses of racism, as if that’s the only thing we could possibly have to handle on a daily basis. What about the regular pressures of life like marriages that are falling apart, difficult bosses, raising children, or cult leaders who aren’t as nice as they appear to be? You know, we have to work though that stuff, as well. So, I’m really am very excited to see how these characters deal with the (I’m guessing) pretty unique challenges that will present themselves in Don‘t Worry Darling, when the film finally opens on September 23, 2022.

Between its largely positive critical reception and making roughly $238.5 million worldwide off a $30 million budget, Crazy Rich Asians, adapted from the same-named book by Kevin Kwan, went down as one of 2018’s biggest cinematic successes. So it was hardly surprising when Warner Bros. decided to order a sequel based on China Rich Girlfriend, the next book in Kawn’s literary trilogy. As we near the halfway point of 2022, it’s still unclear when Crazy Rich Asians 2 (as it’s informally known) will come out, but as the wait continues, it’s been revealed that a Crazy Rich Asians spinoff is also in the works.

Jason Kim, a producer and writer on the HBO series Barry, has been tapped to pen a spinoff based following Gemma Chan’s Astrid Leong-Teo and her romance with Harry Shum Jr.’s Charlie Wu, the latter of whom cameoed at the end of Crazy Rich Asians. According to Deadline, Kim came in with a “dynamite pitch” about this couple’s story, resulting in Warner Bros. putting it into early development. Astrid and Charlie’s relationship was explored in China Rich Girlfriend, so the studio is taking a two-pronged approach with adapting the book, as Constance Wu’s Rachel Chu and Henry Golding’s Nick Young will remain the stars of Crazy Rich Asians 2. 

In Kevin Kwan’s original trilogy, Charlie Wu was Astrid Leong-Teo’s first love, and while they are engaged to be married, Astrid’s parents broke them up because they didn’t see Charlie as a suitable husband. In the Crazy Rich Asians movie, Gemma Chan’s version of Astrid that her husband Michael, played by Pierre Png, had been cheated on her, and in the mid-credits scene, she and Charlie reconnected during Rachel and Nick’s engagement party. Now the stage is set for them to star in their own cinematic story.

When Crazy Rich Asians came out, Gemma Chan was known from the TV series Humans and movies like Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Since the movie’s release though, she’s played two different MCU roles (Minn-Erva in Captain Marvel and Sersi in Eternals), as well as voiced Namaari in Raya and the Last Dragon, not to mention will be seen later this year in Don’t Worry Darling. As for Harry Shum Jr., his other prominent appearances include Glee, Shadowhunters, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny and the critically-acclaimed Everything Everywhere All at Once.

For those of you wondering what the news of this Crazy Rich Asians spinoff means for Crazy Rich Asians 2, the sequel is still in development. As of March, Amy Wang had been brought aboard as the new scriptwriter. Obviously you’re welcome to read China Rich Girlfriend to get a good idea of what will happen both in Crazy Rich Asians 2 and the Astrid and Charlie-led spinoff, but if you’re only want a minor hint about the former, it’ll follow Rachel and Nick traveling to Shanghai to find Nick’s birth father.

This is not a drill: Harry Styles is in the MCU. The former One Direction heartthrob and current hitmaking “Watermelon Sugar” singer snuck his way into one end credit sequence of Eternals as Eros (aka Starfox). Now that the movie has been out for some time and the secret is out, one of the film’s stars Gemma Chan has shared some adorable photos with the pop star. 

Eternals hit Disney+ this week and in celebration of the release, Gemma Chan took to her Twitter to share a number of awesome photos of her and the cast. Check out Harry Styles on set with her: 

Sersi and Eros posed together in costume with some serious faces pointed to the camera in the first image. And their second one together has them getting more jolly as Harry Styles smiles with open arms and Chan grins next to the singer. Welcome to the MCU, Harry! 

Following the epic events of Eternals, there’s a sequence that sees Harry Styles’ Eros appearing in Angelina Jolie’s Thena and Lauren Ridloff’s Makkari. He introduces himself to them before sharing that he knows where to find their lost fellow Eternals. Gemma Chan is not in a shared sequence with Styles, but she must have been on set on the same day as his cameo and made sure to take the time to get a picture with him. She’s gotta be a fan, right? 

According to Chloé Zhao, Harry Styles was supposed to have a longer sequence in the film but it was cut. As you can see from the film, there’s a lot being juggled, so it’s not surprising. With his ending cameo, it does tease a larger role for the actor in a future MCU film, which is very exciting. 

We’d imagine Harry Styles’ Eros could have a large role in an Eternals sequel should it happen. Eros is an Eternal who was born a Titan and grew up alongside his brother Thanos (you know, the guy who snapped half the universe out of existence?) He has the nickname of “Knave of Hearts” and famously becomes part of the Avengers, though Marvel might need to have a meeting to catch up the rest of the heroes. 

Harry Styles had to seriously keep his role underwraps, but now that the world knows, Styles shared that he was among the kids who grew up “wanting to be a superhero” and had a “great experience” on the set of the film. Styles got his start in acting with Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk and is set to be in more movies such as Olivia Wilde’s thriller Don’t Worry Darling and a period drama called My Policeman.

Certainly, given the fantastic critical and commercial success of this appealing studio rom-com, it helped her gain further esteem and clout. There's even word that Gemma Chan's Crazy Rich Asians character is set to get a spinoff of her own.

Submarine (Tubi/PlutoTV/The Roku Channel)

A witty and warm coming-of-age fable that becomes a fine mix of charming and cynical, Richard Ayoade's Submarine is a winning and winsome directorial debut — one that appears to be excessively quirky in style, only to surprise you with its tender, bittersweet emotional honesty. 

A lot of credit goes to its accomplished ensemble, including seasoned veterans like Noah Taylor, Paddy Considine, and Sally Hawkins working alongside newcomers like Craig Roberts, Yasmin Paige, and Gemma Chan, the latter solely in a limited role. As Kim-Lin, the freshman actress received one of her first screen credits, so you're forgiven if you don't remember her from it. That said, Submarine remains one of her best films. Even beyond this early supporting turn, this delightful movie is well worth watching.

Captain Marvel (Disney+)

When Gemma Chan was cast in the lead role of Marvel's Eternals, some Marvel fans were more than a little surprised, considering that the actress was already enveloped into the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the role of Minn-Erva, a Kree tactical sniper, in 2019's Captain Marvel. While the latter superhero blockbuster was a major opportunity, it's fair to say that it wasn't a movie that highlighted Chan's talents and screen presence. 

Strictly stuck in a supporting role, Minn-Erva wasn't a character that left a deep or long impression. Therefore, it made sense that director Chloe Zhao felt comfortable casting the actress in a separate but far meatier role in her own Marvel movie. Alas, while Chan wasn't given much to do in Captain Marvel, her involvement paved the way for her ascent, in the MCU and elsewhere, particularly as Eternals is easily her most high-profile part yet.

Humans (Amazon/Hoopla)

Based on the award-winning Swedish drama Real Humans, Channel 4's Humans only continued to distinguish itself as a mature, thrilling, and thought-provoking sci-fi series, one that was elevated by Gemma Chan's star performance. Through its intelligent and investing sociopolitical commentary, this well-acclaimed series developed into a rich and relevant piece of work, which only grew stronger and meatier as time went on. Though it only lasted three seasons, Humans gained a warm and inviting fanbase, and it helped Chan become a critical favorite and an actress to watch. For some TV viewers, Humans is still Chan's best work to date.

Let Them All Talk (HBO Max) 

As literary agent Karen, an emotionally-unnerved woman who finds herself in turmoil as she tries to get her most elusive client to reach something near her next novel's deadline, Gemma Chan gives, what I consider, her best performance yet in Steven Soderbergh's appropriately chatty dramedy, Let Them All Talk. 

Even in the company of great talents like Meryl Streep, Candice Bergen, and Dianne Wiest, Chan's tormented buttoned-down woman on the verge of her own mid-life crisis makes a great impression. She finds a fine balance between trying to maintain her inherent professionalism and hiding her true identity on this fancy cruise while also allowing herself to become — after some initial resistance — more open and even vulnerable with Lucas Hedges' Tyler, the kind-hearted nephew to Streep's caged Alice Hughes. In an effort to discover what Karen needs to know about what's surely the next literary sensation — one that's often fittingly left at sea by a wayward author who ironically can't find the words that she searches for — Chan plays up this well-to-do business-focused woman with dry humor and even a few unsuspecting moments of emotional susceptibility. 

While this HBO Max title can be breezy and comfortable in its wavy presentation, the acclaimed actors on hand bring more than enough dramatic pull to keep us invested amidst the frivolous fun. Gemma Chan's compelling supporting turn, in particular, is among Let Them All Talk's best, richest, most rewarding surprises.

Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit (Amazon)

Given the restraints of her CIA operative character, Gemma Chan doesn't get a whole lot of time to shine in Kenneth Branagh's amusingly pulpy adaptation, Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit. Nevertheless, as she would demonstrate in several roles set to follow, the actress can make an impression even with such limitations in place. 

Chan's character is fairly by-the-books in style, but she has moments of wit and humor that make Amy Chang more distinguished than she was on the page. The results are not her most memorable role, but it's a good showcase for how Chan can make even minor characters like this one stand out in the star's favor.

Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them (HBO Max)

As Madam Ya Zhou, a head witch in the International Confederation of Wizards, Gemma Chan started her blockbuster career in earnest with Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them. While she didn't have a long residence in the Harry Potter-inspired spin-off series, the actress still stands out, with her striking screen presence and her sharp fashion senses playing a key part in making an impressionable supporting character. As her career continues to expand, this role seems very quaint in comparison. But, it should come as a credit to her — she only continues to develop as a performer and find several new, exciting ventures.

Raya And The Last Dragon (Disney+)

Though she's better known for her live-action work, Gemma Chan was quick to impress with her voice-only performance as Namaari as a part of Disney's Raya and the Last Dragon cast. As the main antagonist of the animated movie, the voice actress is given a great deal of freedom to ham it up in such a wicked role, but it's a credit to her capabilities that she builds someone more complex and nuanced to the part instead, relying more on building on the long history shared between her and this plucky title character and allowing us to get a better understanding of who she is and why she does what she does throughout the course of this film. 

While this year's animated feature wasn't quite as captivating as other recent Disney features like Tangled, Wreck-It Ralph, and Zootopia, Raya and the Last Dragon is made stronger through its exceptional voice cast, including Gemma Chan's notable turn, providing one of the most intriguing recent Disney villains.

The Double (Amazon)

Easily among the best, most stylish, and most inspired films in Gemma Chan's filmography, The Double saw the actress reuniting with writer-director Richard Ayoade for a witty, whimsical adaptation of Fyodor Dostoevsky's experimental novella of the same name. 

Centered around a government agent (Jesse Eisenberg) who finds his unenviable life in havoc when he's in the company of his new co-worker: his doppelgänger, only smarter, more charming, and ultimately more dangerously charismatic, this mysterious dramedy carries its quirky noir influences with stride, but for all its filmmaking flourishes, it's made fully realized by its terrific cast, which includes Mia Wasikowska, Wallace Shawn, Noah Taylor, Sally Hawkins, James Fox, and Yasmin Page in addition to Gemma Chan and Eisenberg's double-handler. 

While Chan is, yet again, given only a small part, her involvement assures her strong working relationship with this promising actor-turned-director, and it allowed us to see another side of this performer in such a crafty, cunning film.

Exam 

A nifty, high-stakes, low-budget chamber thriller made with craft and care, 2009's Exam is an intriguing morality tale that's elevated by its enclosed sense of chaos. Though it often values concept over characters, it's a credit to the game cast that the indie film proves to be so pulsating. That, of course, includes Gemma Chan. 

Though we never get a full read on these intentionally mysterious characters, the newcomer actress, in her first film no less, brings a wealth of palpable suspense —allowing us to get into the ever-frantic minds of these isolated intellects. The results aren't sensational but they're impressive, to be sure, given the restraints of the narrative and movie's finances, but it also allowed Chan to give her first standout performance, and one of her most exceptional, right out of the gate.

With Eternals, Marvel Studios has delivered a cosmic epic spanning thousands of years, which includes plenty of action and raw emotion. Amid all of that though, it also gave Game of Thrones fans a sweet reunion between co-stars Richard Madden and Kit Harington. Viewers were likely glad to see Robb Stark and Jon Snow share the screen again, but how was it for the actors themselves? Well, Madden recently opened up about their recent collaboration by sharing some jokey thoughts. 

The two stars worked together for three seasons of HBO’s acclaimed fantasy series, so one would imagine that the two have great rapport. Of course, such a bond theoretically means the two can throw playful jabs at each other here and there. This certainly seems to be the case judging by Richard Madden’s humorous assertion that reteaming with his old colleague was “terrible”:

Based on the actor’s recent video interview with co-star Gemma Chan for IMDb, this was actually far from the case. He went on to share some positive thoughts on working with Kit Harington again. The actor also recalled one specific night of shooting that was particularly fun for him: 

There’s really nothing like old friends getting together, is there? And having such a reunion take place on a massive movie set had to be even more surreal. As those who’ve seen Eternals probably know (and as Richard Madden has confirmed in the past), the Game of Thrones alums don’t have much screen time together. Nevertheless, you can’t help but love the fact that they did get some time to enjoy each other’s company during the production. 

What’s probably most interesting about this reunion is the connection between the actors’ Eternals characters. Richard Madden portrays the powerful Ikaris, who was the longtime lover of Sersi, played by Gemma Chan. Meanwhile, Kit Harington plays Dane Whitman, who courts Chan’s character in the present. And it’s all even more ironic given that both stars have actually been friends with Chan for years. To some, that may seem awkward, but the comfort that all three have with each other may have actually made it easier for them to play out those relationships.

In the realm of Marvel Comics, there are household names (Spider-Man, The Hulk, Captain America) and there are fringe characters that comic readers know, but your friend who’s casually interested in the MCU might not. There we find heroes such as Moon Knight, the Guardians of the Galaxy, Ms. Marvel and the Eternals. Marvel hopes that by the end of this year, the entire movie-going audience both knows and loves the Eternals, similar to the way that crowds embraced Simu Liu as the martial arts expert Shang-Chi. But for the moment, Marvel isn’t too worried with the team flying under the radar, and here’s why. 

A long, long time ago, CinemaBlend traveled to London to visit the set of Chloe Zhao’s Eternals, a movie that has been delayed just as many times as the blockbusters that finally are reaching theaters now. Eternals was supposed to be the second film in Marvel’s Phase Four, and the first original swing by the studio after the prequel story Black Widow. Things changed, projects shifted, and Eternals finally is ready to reach multiplexes beginning on November 5. 

When sitting down with Nate Moore, Marvel Studios VP of Production & Development, on the Eternals set, we brought up the idea that audiences don’t really know the team, and he was quick to explain why that anonymity doesn’t really worry the company, as a whole. Moore said:

Nate Moore goes on to use perhaps the most famous actor-character combination in the MCU so far, Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, to prove his point. When Marvel kicked off the MCU with Iron Man in 2008, Downey was a struggling actor, and no one knew the Iron Man  character. But Jon Favreau made a good movie, and the pieces all fell into place. Moore’s confident that the MCU model will prop up a new team in Eternals, and that audiences will trust enough in the studio as a brand to take a leap of faith and snag a ticket.

Representation in Hollywood has become a hotter topic in the past few years as studios begin to carve out more spaces for stories that better depict our diverse world. And within that, we’ve been seeing more movies focused on Asian characters, including big hits like Crazy Rich Asians, Parasite and Raya and the Last Dragon. Eternals actress Gemma Chan has been in the middle of this sea of change, but as she shares, there’s still a long way to go.

While recently speaking to Vogue UK, Gemma Chan was approached about some Hollywood statistics between 2007 and 2019. According to the Annenberg Inclusion Initiative, only 44 out of 1,300 of the top grossing movies in the past decade or so have included an Asian-American or Pacific Islander lead. Oh, and Dwayne Johnson accounts for 14 of those films. To put that into perspective, only 3% of these massive films starred an Asian or Pacific Islander, and of that, Johnson made up a third.

It’s a bit of a staggering statistic, even though no one would claim to be surprised by it. In the cover interview, Gemma Chan responded to the numbers with these words:

As the Eternals star says, it all starts from the top, and the truth of the matter is that most Hollywood executives who are deciding on these big-budget films are white men. She was talking about her home in the United Kingdom, but it’s not too far off from the United States as well. It’s a structural problem, but as some of her movies have suggested, as huge audiences have turned up, executives are starting to catch on more often, at least.

As Gemma Chan discussed as well, Hollywood is still catching up to telling more Asian female stories. We already have a few Asian male stars we could name off, be it Jackie Chan, Ken Jeong, Randall Park, John Cho or Henry Golding. But Asian women? It’s starting to stack up a bit more with the rise of Awkwafina, Michelle Yeoh finding more roles as of late, Sandra Oh or Constance Wu, but for a long time, Lucy Liu stood pretty much alone as far as mainstream, big-budget movie stars go.

Dwayne Johnson’s success is huge. The former WWE star recently scored another hit with Disney’s Jungle Cruise, and he'll be seen next year leading Black Adam. But as Gemma Chan points out, he’s an individual success story among a long way to go for more representation and much-needed equity within the industry.

Coming up, Marvel will have its first Asian-led comic book film with Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. Gemma Chan will also star as Sersi in Eternals this November, after previously playing the supporting role of Minn-Erva in Captain Marvel. It’s great to see more Asian representation coming to the big screen with upcoming MCU releases. It'll be exciting to see what Gemma Chan does next and how Hollywood continues to push forward with more diverse storytelling.

Many actors probably dream of appearing in an MCU movie or TV series. Even a small role can have a big impact on an actor’s career, and getting Marvel screen time more or less cements his or her place in cinematic history. So it's a pretty big deal that Eternals’ Gemma Chan was able to nab a second role in the MCU, following her appearance in Captain Marvel. The actress recently opened up about what it was like to return to the franchise in a new capacity.

As Sersi, a powerful empathetic Eternal, Gemma Chan is forging an exciting new chapter in her career. While she may have thought she left the MCU behind following her Captain Marvel stint, she ended up having a fateful meeting with Kevin Feige while promoting Crazy Rich Asians, which ultimately led to her return. The actress told Empire what it felt like to return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a different role via Eternals:

There’s no denying that Chan’s characters in the two MCU movies are radically different, and it seems her presence in both will be significantly different as well. In Captain Marvel, Gemma Chan played Minn-Erva, a villainous member of the Kree Starforce who died before the credits rolled. So, while her character was memorable, she wasn’t a main player in the film.

While we don’t definitively know the fate of Chan’s Eternals character yet, Sersi is definitely fighting with the good guys this time around. She is also, according to Kevin Feige anyway, the lead character in the film (via Variety). In other words, she’s going to be a much bigger deal. She could also feasibly be poised to reprise the role in future MCU films.

As fortunate as Gemma Chan feels to get a second chance at the MCU, she is also in rare company now. Of the hundreds of actors who have appeared in a Marvel movie, very few have been asked back to play a second role. She joins the likes of Chris Evans, who played the Human Torch in the Fantastic Four series before donning Captain America’s shield, and Mahershala Ali, who will play Blade after portraying villain Cornell "Cottonmouth" Stokes on Luke Cage.

Despite a gutting lack of fresh Marvel movies since summer 2019’s Spider-Man: Far From Home, this year is shaping up to be a major year for the MCU between Black Widow, Shang-Chi and six original Disney+ series starring some major leads. And 2021 is set to conclude with Chloé Zhao’s Eternals, and we finally got our first trailer for the movie on Monday. The long wait proved to pay off in hype since it just broke a major record for Disney and Marvel.

The Eternals trailer dropped on Monday following a short tease from Marvel three weeks prior during a promotional video encouraging fans to return to theaters this summer and fall. In the first 24 hours of the trailer making its way online, it reportedly racked up a stunning 77 million views globally. Those numbers have sent the Eternals debut soaring to become the biggest online trailer drop for a Disney Marvel movie since the 14-month COVID-19 pandemic, per Deadline.

For Walt Disney Studios, the trailer beat out the 24-hour viewer count for February’s Cruella trailer, which had garnered 71 million views in the same time period. Eternals also apparently bested the WandaVision first look that aired during the Emmys in September, though it could not compare to Disney+’s Falcon and the Winter Soldier’s 125 million, though those numbers included its Super Bowl broadcast.

Eternals also did better than the latest Black Widow trailer that came out in April to 70 million views, and certainly did better than the introduction to Marvel’s other 2021 origin movie, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. This early record is a great sign for the success of Eternals, especially since the comic book characters are relatively unknown by mainstream audiences. Check out the first Eternals trailer below:

Even if many of us might need to read an explainer or two about who the Eternals are in anticipation of the fall release, the title has garnered interest over the past couple of years. Not to mention Chloé Zhao, the director behind the most recent Best Picture winner Nomadland, helmed the movie. Also, Eternals stars some major names, including Angelina Jolie as Thanos’ cousin Thena, Salma Hayek as Ajak, Gemma Chan as Sersi and Game of Thrones’ Stark brothers Richard Madden and Kit Harrington reuniting for Marvel roles of Ikaris and Dane Whitman, respectively.

Even though the trailer certainly leaves a lot of questions about the Eternals, it also gives us an idea of what the movie actually is and drums up some excitement about a new dawn for the MCU. Unlike other Marvel movies, this one will apparently take place across thousands of years, including ancient times. The movie stars an impressively diverse cast who have apparently lived on Earth and shaped its history throughout time. On November 5, we’ll learn exactly why they’ve decided to move out from the shadows.

The first three Phases of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s history have been driven by the assembling of one key team: The Avengers. Once that team defeated Thanos, its members have spread to the wind. Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) has passed, as has Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.). Captain America (Chris Evans) lived a full life. It’s time to pass the baton. But to whom? Well, the first official trailer for Chloe Zhao’s Eternals suggests that a new team has been with us this entire time… and for centuries before that. They are, as their name suggests, eternal. And their introduction is about to flip the MCU on its ear. Watch the new trailer above, and then we will discuss.

The Eternals don’t have the household recognition of the Avengers, but that doesn’t make them any less compelling. Introduced by comic-book legend Jack Kirby, The Eternals are an immortal alien race who have been living our planet for the better part of 7,000 years. The Eternals were created by the Celestials, God-like creatures who also introduced an evil counterpart to the Eternals: The Deviants.

Eternals has the star-power in its cast to lure a wide audience beyond the Marvel faithful. Angelina Jolie, Salma Hayek, Kit Harrington, Kumail Nanjiani, Gemma Chan and Richard Madden populate this cast of exciting superheroes, who will open up a new corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a similar fashion to the way that James Gunn’s original Guardians of the Galaxy introduced cosmic storytelling that has since powered sequels like Thor: Ragnarok and origin stories such as Captain Marvel.

On top of the A-list talent in the cast, I could easily see a number of curious audience members coming to see Eternals because it’s the follow up film for Chloe Zhao, who just a few weeks ago collected the Best Director and Best Picture Oscars for her incredibly touching and contemplative drama, Nomadland, with Frances McDormand. Zhao is, at once, a brilliant but fascinating choice to take on a superhero blockbuster. Nothing on her resume suggests that she’d even be interested in comic-book storytelling such as this, but maybe that only proves that Eternals will be unlike any Marvel movie we have seen to date. That’s one guaranteed way to keep the future of the MCU feeling fresh.

There are two MCU movies that will arrive in theaters before Eternals opens, and that’s Black Widow (July 9) and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (September 3). But it was finally time to pull back the curtain on Eternals to show off the film’s tone, look, scope and themes. Kelly Marie Tran (Raya)

As our title character, Raya, a warrior princess on a quest to find the last dragon and save her world from an evil force, Kelly Marie Tran plays the protagonist in Disney's latest animated feature, Raya and the Last Dragon. Most notably, Tran played Rose Tico in Star Wars: The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker. She also voiced Rose in Star Wars Forces of Destiny and Disney+'s The LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special. Additionally, the actress appeared in XOXO and lent her voice to last year's The Croods: A New Age.

Awkwafina (Sisu)

In the role of Sisu, a self-deprecating water dragon who is the last of her kind, Awkwafina voices a sidekick called upon by our other title character to save humanity in Raya and the Last Dragon. Most notably, the actress is known for her scene-stealing supporting turn in Crazy Rich Asians, as well as her performances in Ocean's 8, Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising, Dude, and Jumanji: The Next Level. Additionally, Awkwafina is recognized for her acclaimed dramatic lead role in The Farewell, for which she won a Golden Globe Award. She is also the star, co-creator, and writer behind Comedy Central's semi-autobiographical series, Awkwafina is Nora from Queens.

As a voice actress, meanwhile, Awkwafina is heard in The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance, Tuca & Bertie, The Angry Birds Movie 2, Storks, Animals, and The Simpsons. She can also be heard in The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water. Most recently, the actress was seen in Breaking News in Yuba County. Next, she'll be heard in The Little Mermaid and seen in Swan Song, which premieres at SXSW.

Gemma Chan (Namaari)

Playing the part of Namaari, Raya's nemesis, Gemma Chan voices our main antagonist in Disney's Raya and the Last Dragon. Most notably, Chan is known for Crazy Rich Asians, as well as her supporting turn in Captain Marvel. She can also be seen in Mary Queen of Scots, Transformers: The Last Knight, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit, The Double, London Fields, Shanghai, Submarine, Exam, and HBO Max's Let Them All Talk. On television, Chan can be seen in the lead role of Humans, as well as Sherlock, Doctor Who, The IT Crowd, Secret Diary of a Call Girl, Bedlam, Fresh Meat, and Project Catwalk. Next, she'll star in Marvel's Eternals. She'll also appear in Olivia Wilde's Don't Worry, Darling.

Daniel Dae Kim (Chief Benja)

As Chief Benja, Raya's beloved father and the legendary Guardian of the Dragon Gem, Daniel Dae Kim plays a man known as "the baddest blade in the five lands" in Disney's Raya and the Last Dragon. Most notably, the actor is known for Lost, Hawaii Five-0, and Angel. He also played recurring roles in Beverly Hills, 90210, 24, ER, Star Trek: Enterprise, and The Good Doctor, where he serves as an executive producer. Currently, Kim plays a recurring character in NBC's New Amsterdam. And as a voice actor, he's heard in The Legend of Korra, She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, The Casagrandes, Justice League Unlimited, and Avatar: The Last Airbender. Additionally, Kim lent his voice to the Saints Row series, as well as other video games like Scarface: The World Is Yours and Agents of Mayhem.

Outside of television, Daniel Dae Kim appears in Hellboy (2019), Always Be My Maybe, The Divergent Series: Insurgent and Allegiant, Spider-Man 2, Crash (2004), Hulk, Cradle 2 the Grave, and For the Love of the Game.

Sandra Oh (Virana)

In the role of Virana, the chief of the Fang Land, Sandra Oh voices a main character in Raya and the Last Dragon. Most notably, Oh starred in ABC's Grey's Anatomy and BBC America's Killing Eve and won Golden Globes for both. Likewise, she received Emmy nominations for each show, along with nominations for co-hosting The Golden Globes and hosting Saturday Night Live. Her other TV credits include Arliss, Judging Amy, American Crime, and voice roles in American Dad!, American Dragon: Jake Long, The Proud Family, Mulan II, Phineas and Ferb, and She-Ra and the Princesses of Power.

Away from TV, Sandra Oh appears in Sideways, Double Happiness, The Diary of Evelyn Lau, Big Fat Liar, Full Frontal, Bean, The Princess Diaries, Under the Tuscan Sun, Hard Candy, Rabbit Hole, The Red Violin, and Dancing at the Blue Iguana. Benedict Wong (Tong)

Playing the part of Tong, a formidable giant, Benedict Wong voices a large and looming supporting character in Disney's Raya and the Last Dragon. Most notably, the actor is known for playing Wong in Doctor Strange, as well as Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame. He also appeared in The Martian, Prometheus, Kick-Ass 2, Annihilation, Johnny English Reborn, Gemini Man, Moon, The Lady, Sunshine, Dirty Pretty Things, Shanghai, Spy Game, Hummingbird, and, most recently, The Personal History of David Copperfield. Additionally, Wong was recently heard in Disney+'s Lady and the Tramp.

On television, Benedict Wong played Kublai Khan in Netflix's Marco Polo. He was also seen in Deadly Class, Spirit Warriors, Law & Order: UK, Prey, Black Mirror, State of Play, and What We Do in the Shadows, as well as heard in Netflix's The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance. Izaac Wang (Boun)

As Boun, a savvy entrepreneur and boat restaurant owner, Izaac Wang plays a notable supporting character in Disney's Raya and the Last Dragon. Most notably, Wang is known for his supporting role in Good Boys. He was also recently seen in Think Like a Dog. On TV, the child actor appeared in Teachers. Next, Wang will be seen in Clifford the Big Red Dog and heard in HBO Max's Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai.

Thalia Tran (Little Noi)

In the role of Little Noi, a thieving toddler, Thalia Tran voices an adorable troublemaker in Disney's Raya and the Last Dragon. Most notably, Tran starred in NBC's short-lived Council of Dads. She can also be seen in Little. Her other TV credits include Tiny Feminists, Hotel Du Loone, and Sydney to the Max.

Alan Tudyk (Tuk Tuk)

Playing the part of Tuk Tuk, a bug/armadillo/pug hybrid, Alan Tudyk voices an odd-but-loyal sidekick in Disney's Raya and the Last Dragon. Tudyk is known for his role as Hoban "Wash" Washburne in Fox's short-lived Firefly and its film continuation, Serenity. Also, he appears in Tucker & Dale vs. Evil, Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story, Wonder Boys, A Knight's Tale, Knocked Up, 3:10 to Yuma (2007), Trumbo, Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials, Deadpool 2, 42, Transformers: Dark of the Moon, and Death at a Funeral (2007). Additionally, Tudyk wrote, directed, and starred in the web series, Con Man, for which he was Emmy-nominated. As a voice actor, he's heard in I, Robot, Wreck-It Ralph, Frozen and Frozen II, Ralph Breaks the Internet, Big Hero 6, Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked, Ice Age, Zootopia, Moana, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, and Aladdin (2019).

Lucille Soong (Dang Hu)

As Dang Hu, the leader of the land of Talon, Lucille Soon plays a sage supporting character in Disney's Raya and the Last Dragon. An actress with nearly 60 years of acting experience, Soong is best known for her main role in ABC's Fresh Off the Boat. She also played a recurring role in Desperate Housewives. Her other television credits include Dharma & Greg, The Troubleshooters, Bones, The King of Queens, Without a Trace, The United States of Tara, According to Jim, and The League, to only name a few credits. In film, meanwhile, Soong can be seen in The Joy Luck Club, Freaky Friday (2003), Nancy Drew, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, Mission: Impossible III, Employee of the Month, The Corrupter, Genghis Khan, One More Time, Sky High, and Just Like Heaven.

Patti Harrison (Tail Chief)

In the role of Tail Chief, Patti Harrison voices a prominent supporting character in Disney's Raya and the Last Dragon. Most notably, Harrison stars in Hulu's Shrill. She can also be seen in Search Party, The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, The Special Without Brett Davis, where she also wrote, Broad City, High Maintenance, The Chris Gethard Show, History of Swear Words, and I Think You Should Leave with Tim Robinson. Additionally, Harrison can be heard in BoJack Horseman and Magical Girl Friendship Squad. Most recently, the comedienne co-starred in Amazon Prime's Yearly Departed.

Furthermore, Patti Harrison is seen in A Simple Favor. She also stars in Together Together, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. Away from acting, Harrison wrote for Dispatches from Elsewhere and Big Mouth and co-hosts A Woman's Smile.

Ross Butler (Spine Chief)

Playing the part of Spine Chief, Ross Butler voices a notable supporting character in Disney's Raya and the Last Dragon. Butler is known for his main role on Netflix's 13 Reasons Why. He can also be seen in Riverdale, Shazam!, Teen Beach 2, K.C. Undercover, Perfect High, The Internship, Teen Wolf, Chasing Life, and the music videos for Steve Aoki's "Waste It On Me" and Juice Wild's "Graduation." Additionally, Butler played supporting roles in To All the Boys I Loved: P.S. I Still Love You and this year's To All the Boys: Always and Forever. Next, he'll be heard in Netflix's Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas. He was also set to star in Quibi's Swimming with Sharks, though the show's status is unknown after the company folded last year.

Raya and the Last Dragon arrives in theaters and on Disney+ on March 5th.

Being tapped for a role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is a true honor, but what’s even more unique is when someone is brought back to play an entirely different character. This is the case for Gemma Chan, who rejoined Marvel Studios as Sersi in Eternals after having previously played Minn-Erva in Captain Marvel. Chan is very much aware of her good fortune, and she recently explained how she came to join a second MCU property.

Those who have seen Captain Marvel know that Gemma Chan’s Kree sniper and Starforce member Minn-Erva was shot down and killed by Maria Rambeau during the film’s third act. With this, Chan doubted she would return to the MCU in any capacity. But this changed during an encounter with Marvel Studios head honcho Kevin Feige:

Kevin Feige has delivered a lot of good news in his time (as Marvel fans probably know), and Gemma Chan was excited to learn that said project would be Eternals. During her recent interview with THR, Chan went onto describe some of the ways in which the film differs from Captain Marvel and teased a bit about her character:

From what we’ve heard about Eternals so far, director Chloé Zhao really injected her sensibilities into the superhero epic. And Chan’s sentiments on the decreased reliance on bluescreen definitely point to the filmmaker’s attempts to change things up for this MCU installment.

As for Gemma Chan’s character, Sersi is one of the most powerful beings in the Marvel Universe, and this could very well be the case in the MCU as well. Despite this, Chan’s mention of her empathy still hints at the cosmic character’s love for humanity.

It’s great that Marvel Studios found a way to bring Gemma Chan back into the MCU family. While we may still have a ways to go before we see Chan and her fellow Eternals hit the big screen, it sounds like the movie should be well worth the wait.

Eternals is scheduled to open in theaters on November 5, 2021.

Based on the novel of the same name by Kevin Kwan, Crazy Rich Asians became one of the biggest movies of 2018. Constance Wu (Rachel Chu)

An actress who found her breakthrough role with ABC's Fresh Off the Boat, Crazy Rich Asians proved to be a major breakout for the actress, leading her to more career possibilities. Notably following her Golden Globe-nominated performance in that film, becoming only the fourth Asian woman to be nominated for that award, Wu was seen in the lead role in the acclaimed crime drama, Hustlers, which also starred Jennifer Lopez. Wu also played a voice-only role in the animated movie, Next Gen. Up next, Wu will be seen in the drama film, I Was A Simple Man, and she'll also lend her voice to Wish Dragon. She also recently appeared in the sixth and final season of the aforementioned Fresh Off the Boat, and it appears that she wasn't thrilled about the acclaimed show being renewed for that many seasons, as she made clear on Twitter.

Henry Golding (Nick Young)

A Malaysian-born English actor, model, and TV host, Henry Golding gained fame across the pond, notably as the host of BBC's The Travel Show, but he became an international success when he played the romantic lead in Crazy Rich Asians, which became his first professional acting credit. Since starring in this box office smash, Golding continues to gain more high-profile roles, notably in 2018's A Simple Favor and as the romantic lead in last year's Last Christmas, which also starred the actor's Crazy Rich Asians co-star, Michelle Yeoh. Most recently, Golding starred in Guy Ritchie's The Gentlemen. Up next, the rising performer will play the title role in Snake Eyes, which is expected to be released later this year (or perhaps next year, at this point). Golding will also soon set to be seen in the romantic drama Monsoon, which will get its stateside release soon.

Michelle Yeoh (Eleanor Sung-Young)

A Malaysian actress who became famous in the 1990s through Hong Kong action films, then became an international success thanks to Tomorrow Never Dies and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Crazy Rich Asians was one of Yeoh's biggest hits in recent years as she played the part of Eleanor Sung-Young, Nick's domineering mother. Since the film's release, Yeoh has also been seen in Master Z: The Ip Man Legacy and, most recently, Last Christmas. Though the actress has most prominently appeared on Star Trek: Discovery on CBS All Access. Up next, Yeoh is set to appear in a number of new movies, including Boss Level, Gunpowder Milkshake, and Everything Everywhere All At Once, but the biggest role she has coming up is a part in the forthcoming Avatar sequels. Yeoh is also lending her voice to Minions: The Rise of Gru, which will come out next year.

Awkwafina (Peik Lin Goh)

Awkwafina was previously best known as a rapper, though the performer only continues her ascension as a high-profile actress. Certainly, 2018 proved to be a big year for the rising actress, starring in Crazy Rich Asians and Ocean's 8 in the same summer, while her second EP, In Fina We Trust, was also released. The comedy star proved herself tremendously as a dramatic actress through her outstanding performance in The Farewell, for which she won a Golden Globe. Unfortunately, Awkwafina was snubbed at the Oscars. Awkwafina was also seen in Jumanji: The Next Level, and she stars, produces and writes the Comedy Central series, Awkwafina Is Nora From Queens. Next, Awkwafina stars in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and Breaking News in Yuba County, and she'll soon be heard in Raya and the Last Dragon and The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run.

Gemma Chan (Astrid Young Teo)

Playing fashion icon and socialite Astrid Leong-Teo, Gemma Chan had a standout role in Crazy Rich Asians. The English actress has appeared in several movies and TV shows, including Humans, Secret Diary of a Call Girl, Doctor Who, Transformers: The Last Knight, and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, to name a few. Since Crazy Rich Asians, Chan has continued to build her resume. She appeared in Mary Queen of Scots, and she also starred in Captain Marvel. The actress also starred and co-wrote an episode of I Am and she provided her voice to BBC's Watership Down. Next, Chan will star in The Eternals and she also has a role in Steven Soderbergh's upcoming drama, Let Them All Talk, which hits HBO Max later this year.

Lisa Lu (Ah Ma)

A prolific, acclaimed actress with decades of experience to her name, Lisa Lu gave another strong performance in Crazy Rich Asians playing the part of Shang Su Yi, also known as Ah Ma. An actress/producer seen in The Last Emperor, Bonanza, The Man from U.N.C.L.E., The Joy Luck Club, and several other productions for both big and small screens, Lu is a celebrated actress with three Golden Horse Awards to her name from the 1970s. Since Crazy Rich Asians, Lu hasn't appeared in any other films or shows, though she did act in the short film Penzai. It's expected to be released soon.

Ken Jeong (Wye Mun Goh)

Best known for his work in Community and The Hangover trilogy, Ken Jeong is a dependable comedic talent, and he has stayed active in the past ten-plus years. One of Jeong's most noteworthy roles was Wye Mun Goh, the wealthy father of Peik Lin Goh (Awkwafina), in 2018's Crazy Rich Asians. Since then, the doctor-turned-comedian has starred in several movies and TV shows, including Lady and the Tramp, Fresh Off the Boat, Saving Zoe, Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween, and an Avengers: Endgame cameo. Additionally, Jeong provided voice roles in BoJack Horseman, Wonder Park, The Simpsons, and Bob's Burgers. He also had a Netflix special released in 2019 and he's currently seen as a panelist on The Masked Singer. Next, Jeong stars in My Spy, Boss Level, Tom & Jerry and more, including voice roles in Scoob!, The Emperor of Malibu, and Adventures in Wonder Park.

Sonoya Mizuno (Araminta Lee)

A Japanese-born British actress, ballet dancer, and model, Sonoya Mizuno has been seen in a variety of unique and exciting projects. In addition to her role in Crazy Rich Asians, where she played Araminta Lee, the bride-to-be and the heiress to a billion-dollar chain restaurant, Mizuno is best known for her work with writer-director Alex Garland. She has appeared in both of his directorial efforts, Ex Machina and Annihilation, and she was most recently seen in the lead role of Devs, his FX-Hulu mini-series, which premiered earlier this year. Additionally, in the fall of 2018, Mizuno starred in Netflix's mini-series, Maniac, where she played a prominent role. She was also recently seen in All About Nina and The Domestics. Next, Mizuno will star in the new HBO Max series, The Flight Attendant, alongside Kaley Cuoco.

Chris Pang (Colin Khoo)

As Colin Khoo, Araminta's fiancé and Nick's childhood best friend, Chris Pang played a prominent character in Crazy Rich Asians. An Australian actor-producer of Chinese descent, Pang was previously best known for 2010's Tomorrow, When the War Began before the 2018 romantic studio comedy. Since Crazy Rich Asians, Pang has been seen in last year's Charlie's Angels and Empty By Design, which he also produced. He was also recently cast in an untitled Amazon pilot from producer Jason Katims (Friday Night Lights, Parenthood). Pang is also soon set to be seen in the Sundance hit, Palm Springs, and he has a role in the upcoming sports movie, Underdogs Rising.

Jimmy O. Yang (Bernard Tai)

As the spoiled, party-loving former classmate of Colin Khoo and Nick Young, comedian Jimmy O. Yang gets a splashy, occasionally scene-stealing role in Crazy Rich Asians. Beyond this supporting role, Yang is best known for playing Jian-Yang in HBO's acclaimed Silicon Valley. That series wrapped its run after its sixth season aired late last year. Recently, Yang was seen in Like a Boss and Fantasy Island. He'll next star in Netflix's Space Force. He also appeared in The Simpsons and Fresh Off the Boat, which also stars Constance Wu, and he played a voice-only role in The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part. He'll next be seen in the lead role of The Opening Act, which also stars Ken Jeong, and he provides his voice to Wish Dragon. He also recently wrote a memoir titled How to American: An Immigrant's Guide to Disappointing Your Parents.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is an ever expanding place, and there are some very exciting projects coming down the pipeline. Chief among them is

Chloé Zhao's The Eternals, which will be a massive cosmic story told over thousands of years. The movie boasts an outstanding and diverse cast, including actress Gemma Chan. Chan may have made her Marvel debut as Minn-Erva in Captain Marvel, but she'll be playing new character Sersi in The Eternals. And she recently teased a love triangle in the upcoming blockbuster.

The Eternals the largely a mystery at this point, which is helping to add to its hype. The ensemble project will feature a motley crew of superheroes, who are tasked with protecting Earth. Moviegoers will get the chance to meet a ton of new characters, each with their own quirks and powers. And Gemma Chan's Sersi looks like she's going to have a romantic connection with a few people. As she put it,

Well, this sounds exciting. It looks like Sersi will have her share of lovers in The Eternals. And it's this unique character trait that helped attract Gemma Chan to the project. That, and the absolutely insane cast. Besides, she's a Marvel veteran at this point.

Gemma Chan's comments come from Vanity Fair gives the smallest glimpse into her mysterious Eternals character. While the starring cast and their characters have been revealed, there's no telling what Chloé Zhao has in mind for the team of cosmic superheroes. The cast list itself shows how the filmmaker is eager to make changes to their characterization. Selma Hayek's character was gender swapped, Lauren Ridloff's Makkari is hearing impaired, while Brian Tyree Henry's Phastos will be the first LGBT superhero.

On the page Sersi has as ton of powers, including Superhuman strength and durability molecular manipulation, psionic powers, flight, and near vulnerability. It's unclear if her abilities will be changed for the film adaptation, but it sounds like The Eternals are a very strong group of characters. The cast even jokes that they would kick the Avengers' asses in a fight. Them be some fighting words!

Since The Eternals are not exactly a household name, director Chloé Zhao should have free range in adapting them for the big screen. This is a system that worked out well for James Gunn and the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, as he took an unknown group of heroes and quickly made them fan favorites. Luckily, The Eternals is one of the first movies to hit theaters during Phase Four.

This November, Marvel Cinematic Universe fans will venture back into the cosmic corners of this franchise with The Eternals. Much like the Guardians of the Galaxy and plenty of other starring heroes in the MCU once were, the Eternals aren’t that well known by the general public, or even by a fair amount of comic book readers. But once their movie comes out, that’ll be sure to change.

First announced in spring 2018, The Eternals began filming last July, and now we’ve learned that the movie has finished production thanks to one of the actors, Gemma Chan, who posted the following on social media:

If you’re commemorating the end of principal photography for a blockbuster picture, wearing a hat featuring the movie’s logo is a good way to go. Interestingly enough, Gemma Chan’s involvement in The Eternals wasn’t confirmed until last August, a month after cameras started rolling. Nevertheless, as Sersei, who loves humankind, she’ll be one of the movie’s main characters.

Sersei will be the second character Gemma Chan has played within the MCU. She appeared last year in Captain Marvel as Minn-Erva, a member of the Kree Starforce team who ended up being shot down by Maria Rambeau. It isn’t often that Marvel brings back an actor to play someone different, but assuming the Eternals have a bright future ahead of them on the big screen, Chan’s Sersei will have a much bigger impact than Minn-Erva did.

While specific plot details concerning The Eternals are still being kept under wraps, we do know that we’ll follow along with the eponymous characters across thousands of years up to the present day, with an unexpected tragedy after the events of Avengers: Endgame forcing them to come out of the shadows and fight mankind’s most ancient enemy, the Deviants. Like their comic book counterparts, both the MCU’s Eternals and Deviants are the creations of the mysterious Celestials, who’ve been mentioned a few times already in the MCU.

Gemma Chan certainly isn’t lacking for costars in The Eternals. The sprawling cast also includes Richard Madden, Kumail Nanjiani, Angelina Jolie, Lauren Ridloff, Brian Tyree Henry, Salma Hayek, Lia McHugh, Don Lee, Barry Keoghan, Haaz Sleiman and Kit Harington.

Behind the camera, The Rider’s Chloé Zhao directed The Eternals and the script was written by Matthew and Ryan Firpo. In addition to its main shoot in England (primarily at Pinewood Studios), The Eternals also filmed scenes at the Canary Islands. It’s possible that like many blockbusters do nowadays, The Eternals has allotted time for reshoots later this year, but aside from that, now the crew can focus on postproduction.

Last summer, Crazy Rich Asians became the first blockbuster rom-com in about a decade. It has since launched massive careers for its breakout Asian stars, whose various actors are set to continue in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, become an iconic G.I. Joe and voice in Disney films moving forward. Following its monumental success, there are two planned sequels in the works for Crazy Rich Asians based on the books China Rich Girlfriend and Rich People Problems, but one major setback may be stalling the sequel's development.

Crazy Rich Asians writing team Peter Chiarelli and Adele Lim were originally set to pen the scripts for the rest of the trilogy based on Kevin Kwan’s best-selling novels. However, new reports indicate Lim left the project last fall due to what was reportedly an unequal pay dispute. Allegedly, while Chiarelli was offered between $800,000 to $1 million, Lim’s was only extended to $110,000-plus.

Warner Bros. explained the pay disparity was industry-standard established based on the experience of the two writers. Peter Chiarelli previously wrote the $317 million-grossing The Proposal for the studio and the story for Now You See Me 2. Crazy Rich Asians was Adele Lim’s first feature film script, though she’s written for 12 different television shows dating back to 2002.

Adele Lim told THR she believes herself and other women/people of color are regularly brought on board to projects to serve as the “soy sauce” to pepper in cultural details on a screenplay instead of contributing to the meat of the story. After she walked away, the studio searched for another writer of Asian heritage to replace her for five months before approaching her again in February with an offer closer to Peter Chiarelli’s who agreed to split his pay with her.

The writer decided to stand her ground and passed agin. Now she has moved on with Walt Disney Animation, where she will be the sole writer on the studio’s upcoming film Raya and the Last Dragon coming to theaters in November 2020 and starring Crazy Rich Asians’ Awkwafina.

Adele Lim or not, it was going to be awhile before audiences would see a Crazy Rich Asians sequel. Jon M. Chu is currently working on his adaptation of In the Heights musical coming in June 2020 before returning to the rom-com franchise. In addition, he has now taken Lim’s place as writer with Peter Chiarelli on the two sequels which are in its early stages over at Warner Bros.

The cast’s newfound starpower is another reason the Crazy Rich Asians sequels could take longer to hit the big screen. Constance Wu regularly shoots Fresh Off the Boat, with maybe a summer for other projects. Awkwafina is stacked up with movie roles for the next couple years. Gemma Chan is joining the Eternals, perhaps with more time cut out for Marvel on the way and Henry Golding is getting ready to lead Snake Eyes.

Coordinating all the breakout actors together for their reunion in the sequels could push back shooting further. However, Chu doesn’t seem worried about the setbacks. In his words:

After the success of Crazy Rich Asians, the filmmakers certainly want to deliver a similar quality for the sequels! At the earliest, the ensemble cast will be back shooting by the end of 2020. Good news is Crazy Rich Asians 2 & 3 will likely have closer release dates between one another since they are being shot back-to-back.

As 2019’s summer season reaches an end, we may remember it as a moment when moviegoers couldn’t get enough of live-action remakes and superhero genre epics. But when looking in restrospect to last summer’s movie offerings, Crazy Rich Asians was the standout movie of the season that turned some tides for Hollywood with its massive box office and critical success. It brought about a new wave for the romantic comedy genre and proved there’s an eager audience centered on Asian-American stories. Just look at how well the Crazy Rich Asians’ cast is doing, nabbing big-time roles after their breakout success!

Crazy Rich Asians had a stacked cast of Asian-American actors – the first major Hollywood film to do so since 1993's The Joy Luck Club. The comedy featured some well known talents such as Michelle Yeoh and Ken Jeong, but more notably introduced the world to quite a few newcomers who clearly have bright futures in the business looking at where they are just one year after Crazy Rich Asians, between their impressive co-stars and upcoming franchise roles. Constance Wu (Rachel Chu)

Fresh Off the Boat’s Constance Wu lead 2018’s Crazy Rich Asians as New York economics professor Rachel Chu, who journeys to Singapore with her boyfriend Nick Young for a wedding only to find out he belongs to an incredibly rich, celebrity-status family. Before starring in the summer success, Wu already had four seasons on the aforementioned ABC sitcom under her belt. The actress had been pursuing the business for over 10 years, and with Fresh Off the Boat being her only starring role at the time, Crazy Rich Asians allowed her to snag the spotlight in a movie.

One year after the August release of Crazy Rich Asians, Constance Wu is gearing up for a starring role in the upcoming crime dramedy Hustlers alongside Jennifer Lopez, Julia Stiles, Keke Palmer, Lili Reinhart, Cardi B and Lizzo. The September release tells the true story of a crew of former strippers who decide to take advantage of their Wall Street clients. Wu holds the top-billing for Hustlers as a single mother named Destiny who creates the master plan with her fellow dancers.

The actress did have a very public outburst a few months ago when she took to social media to express her anguish over losing out on another opportunity following the renewal of Fresh Off the Boat. Slate has called the incident a unique win for representation Hollywood. Finally, an Asian-American “Diva” to call their own! ABC has assured fans there is no beef with the actress. She’s also scored roles in Sony Animation’s Wish Dragon and Low Budget Ethnic Movie.

Henry Golding (Nick Young)

When Henry Golding was cast in Crazy Rich Asians, he didn’t have a single acting credit. He’d been hosting BBC World News’ The Travel Show, which was just the source that got him invited to audition for the rom-com. When he debuted as Nick Young in the August flick, he became a Hollywood heartthrob overnight and has since gained massive fame (a transition he admits he’s wrestled with). In his breakout role, he plays Rachel’s boyfriend with a family part of the Singapore elite.

After also starring in A Simple Favor alongside Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick for his second movie, Golding has an impressive line-up to continue his acting career. This holiday season he’ll play leading man to Game of Thrones’ Emilia Clarke in another rom-com, titled Last Christmas. At the top of 2020, the Crazy Rich Asians actor will also be in Guy Ritchie’s The Gentleman. The action film also stars Matthew McConaughey, Charlie Hunnam, Colin Farrell and Hugh Grant and will follow a British drug lord selling off his empire to Oklahoma billionaires.

Henry Golding is also making moves into blockbuster franchises with his recent casting as the lead in G.I. Joe spinoff, Snake Eyes. He’ll play the fan-favorite ninja warrior in the Robert Schwentke (director of Red)-helmed flick. The actor has also recently been in public conversation about taking on the role of Namor in the MCU (maybe as the villain in Black Panther 2?) Who knows if it will happen, but the fact that Golding has made it as far as being fan-casted in a Marvel role within a year of his success is crazy!

Gemma Chan (Astrid Young Teo)

Of the Crazy Rich Asians’ breakout cast, 37-year-old Gemma Chan had the most lengthy career before joining in on the summer hit. Fans of AMC’s Humans series were familiar with her and she’d found supporting roles in Fantastic Beasts and Transformers. The Jon M. Chu-directed book adaptation was her largest movie role to date and has propelled her into Hollywood star status. Chan played Nick’s sister Astrid, who is dealing with her husband’s affair throughout the movie.

Since then, she played the blue-skinned Minn-Erva in March’s Captain Marvel. She may have a larger role in the MCU too, since she’s rumored to have involvement in the upcoming Phase Four film The Eternals. It’s unclear whether she’ll be reprising her Starforce role or playing a brand new character, but get it, girl! The actress has also just been cast in Steven Soderbergh’s latest project, titled Let them All Talk. She’ll be acting alongside none-other-than Meryl Streep for the under-wraps role. That cast also includes Lucas Hedges and Candice Bergen.

Chan will also be getting a promotion of sorts for the planned Crazy Rich Asian sequels. Astrid’s continuing story will reportedly play a larger role in the next film in development as her relationship with Harry Shum Jr’s Charlie Wu (shown in a cameo at the end) will be further explored, following the events of the books.

Awkwafina (Peik Lin Goh)

The true breakout of the Crazy Rich Asians cast is Awkwafina, of course. The 31-year-old has quickly become one of Hollywood’s trendiest talents since her scene-stealing role as Rachel’s hilarious best friend Peik Lin in the 2018 summer movie. Before that role lit up the big screen, she appeared earlier in 2018 in Ocean’s Eight and had gained popularity for her YouTube channel. Once she uttered the iconic words “bok, bok, bitch,” he life was never the same.

Awkwafina recently wowed critics for her performance in Lulu Wang’s drama The Farewell, which has a 99% Rotten Tomatoes score and could receive Oscars attention. She’s also done voice acting for The Angry Birds Movie 2, Netflix’s upcoming The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance, 2020’s The SpongeBob Movie: It's a Wonderful Sponge and will reportedly play Scuttle in Disney’s live-action Little Mermaid.

Awkwafina also has a role in Jumanji: The Next Level coming this December, alongside The Rock, Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan, Jack Black, Danny DeVito and Danny Glover. Then she is joining the MCU in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. Oh, and she’ll also star with Meryl Streep in Netflix musical Prom! Plus, she's creating her own television show for Comedy Central called Awkwafina, based on her experiences living in Queens. She’s literally doing it all!

The Crazy Rich Asians cast members are becoming actual realizations of the movie title that propelled them into stardom with all the projects they have on the way!! Considering each of their careers have exponentially grown since the rom-com dazzled audiences, it's clear the movie left an impression on Hollywood and made way for more Asian lead roles in the mainstream.

Marvel Studios formally announced Eternals (then officially called THE Eternals) as one of several upcoming Marvel movies during its San Diego Comic-Con panel in 2019. At that time, its release date was also set for late 2020, but now the film is one of the most anticipated 2021 movies fans are looking forward to. Plenty more updates regarding the fascinating Marvel film, starring Angelina Jolie, have surfaced since, and we will take you through all of them now, starting with when exactly it will finally hit theaters.

The Eternals Release Date Is Set For November 2021

At the aforementioned Comic-Con 2019 panel, it was revealed that Eternals was officially set to be released on November 6th, 2020, which felt like a pretty tight window at the time since filming would not even begin until the following September. Of course, shortly after production in England wrapped in early 2020, the pandemic forced Disney to delay the hotly anticipated release until the following February and then again to almost exactly a year after its initial set date. As of now, Eternals is officially set to hit theaters on Friday, November 5, 2021.

The Eternals Are A Team Of Ageless Superheroes From Marvel Comics

Created by Jack Kirby in 1976, the Eternals are a band of humanoids considered an offshoot of the evolutionary process which created sentient life inside the Marvel universe. Once intended protect Earth, and they've gone to war with their counterparts, The Deviants. They are basically superhumans who can live for thousands of years without threat of disease or destruction, a mental bond that unites them, and other extraordinary feats like flight.

In short, they're the best of the best in many respects, but do have some limitations (obviously), which will likely be explored in Eternals. They have several years of history, but it sounds like the characters chosen to be at the forefront of this introductory tale range from a variety of generations. It's unclear how closely this story will follow the origins of the characters from the comics, or when we'll be introduced to the characters with respect to the current timeline of the MCU.

The Eternals Cast Includes Angelina Jolie, Richard Madden, Kumail Nanjiani, And More

The first to join the Eternals cast was Angelina Jolie as Thena before Oscar-nominated actor and comedian Kumail Nanjiani got ripped to play super-powered samurai Kingo. From the Game of Thrones cast, we have Richard Madden as leading Eternal Ikaris and Kit Harrington as Dane Whitman, otherwise known as the Black Knight in Marvel Comics. Celebrated Latinx actress Salma Hayek stars as Ajak and Atlanta and Godzilla vs. Kong star Brian Tyree Henry is making history by playing the first openly LGBTQ+ Marvel movie superhero, Phastos.

Irish actor Barry Keoghan of Dunkirk fame plays Druig along with South Korean actor Don Lee of Train to Busan fame as Gilgamesh in Eternals. Fellow horror movie star Lia McHugh (The Lodge) plays the deceptively young-looking Sprite and Sersi is Gemma Chan’s second MCU role after playing Minn-Erva in Captain Marvel. The gender-swapped Makkari is also Lauren Ridloff’s second role in a comic book adaptation after appearing in The Walking Dead cast as Connie.

Chloé Zhao Directed Eternals

In September 2018, it was revealed that Chloé Zhao would direct Eternals, a Chinese-born filmmaker who had already earned a wealth of acclaim for her sophomore feature, The Rider, that year. Zhao was also in the running to direct Black Widow before the position was given to Cate Shortland, but Marvel was clearly impressed with her work, having only been known at the time for independent films, including her directorial debut, Songs My Brothers Taught Me.

Certainly, Eternals is a big leap for Chloé Zhao, or so it seemed until she became the second woman (and first woman of color) to win Best Director at the 2021 Academy Awards for Nomadland, which would also take home the top prize that night. It is also worth noting that Eternals will now be the third Marvel film directed by a female filmmaker, following 2019’s Captain Marvel and the upcoming Black Widow. That is certainly an exciting development, and it's hopefully a sign of what's to come with regards to a diversity of filmmakers directing these movies.

Ryan And Matthew K. Firpo Wrote Eternals

In May of 2018, it was revealed that cousins Ryan and Matthew "Kaz" Firpo were in talks to write the screenplay for Eternals. The related writers have only previously had their short film screenplays brought to life, which makes the prospect of them jumping on board to write this major motion picture all the more exciting. Although, it should be noted that their script for the war thriller Ruin would acquire a great deal of interest — most notably because Margot Robbie and Matthias Schoenaerts are currently attached to star with Assassin’s Creed helmer Justin Kurzel on board to direct.

Marvel’s Hype Video Gave Fans A First Look At Eternals

It is no secret that 2020 was a hard year for the theater industry and for cinephiles who consider the big screen a second home. Marvel Studios proved that the feeling has been mutual by releasing a Hype Video to encourage fans to have a safe, exciting return to traditional moviegoing which also included a sneak peek at Eternals and other upcoming Marvel flicks. While the combined two clips of footage only lasted mere seconds, viewers took note at how badass Angelina Jolie looks as Thena.

There are still a lot of details left unknown about Eternals at this time, which looks like it could be one of the best Marvel movies yet, such as when we will see the first trailer. But with the release date fast approaching (even if it's still over a year away), we should expect to see and hear more about this film and these characters in the months to come.

Every now and then since the Marvel Cinematic Universe started, there have been instances where an actor who played a character in one of the franchise’s movies goes on to play a different character in a TV show, and vice-versa. For example, Mahershala Ali played Cornell “Cottonmouth” Stokes on Netflix’s Luke Cage, and now he’s been hired to play Blade on the big screen.

It’s quite rare, however, to see an actor in the MCU play two different roles within only the movies, but that scenario might be in play for The Eternals, as Captain Marvel’s Gemma Chan is being eyed to join that cosmic tale.

According to Variety, Gemma Chan, who previously appeared as Starforce member Minn-Erva in Captain Marvel, is in talks to star in The Eternals. What’s unclear is whether she would be reprising Minn-Erva or appearing as someone brand-new to the MCU. Some of the outlet’s sources believe it’s the latter option.

Furthermore, The Hollywood Reporter’s Borys Kit has heard that Sersi, one of the most important characters in the Eternals mythology, is appearing in the movie as the “ostensible lead.” That said, it remains to be seen if this is the role Gemma Chan is being eyed for, but if it is, then this would be a major career triumph for her.

Outside of the MCU, Gemma Chan’s notable credits include movies like Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Crazy Rich Asians and Mary Queen of Scotts, as well as playing Anita/Mia in the AMC series Humans. In Captain Marvel, Chan’s Minn-Erva served as Starforce’s sniper, but she perished when engaging Maria Rambeau in an aerial battle.

That rules out a present-day appearance from Minn-Erva in the MCU, but what about in the past? After all, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige said that like their comic book counterparts, the film versions of the Eternals have been around for tens of thousands of years. The problem is that even the Kree aren’t as long-lived as the Eternals, so seeing a millennia-younger Minn-Erva is extremely unlikely.

In any case, assuming Gemma Chan does sign on to The Eternals and play someone new, perhaps this will open the door wider for people who’ve had minor roles in previous MCU movies to shine in starring roles now.

Thus far, The Eternals’ main cast officially consists of Angelina Jolie as Thena, Richard Madden as Ikaris, Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo, Brian Tyree Henry as Phastos, Salma Hayek as Ajak, Lauren Ridloff as Makkari, Lia McHugh as Sprite and Done Lee as Gilgamesh. Dunkirk’s Barry Keoghan has also reportedly signed on, although his character hasn’t been identified. Chloe Zhao is directing the movie, and Matthew and Ryan Firpo wrote the script.

The MCU family continues to expand with each new release, perhaps until each and every actor in Hollywood has a Marvel Comics inspired role. Captain Marvel brings in some red-hot names – on the planet of Hala, we will meet a handful of Kree officers including Jude Law’s Yon-Rogg and Gemma Chan’s Minn-Erva. The two actors had some of the buzziest adapted roles in 2018, as Law took on playing a younger Dumbledore in Fantastic Beasts: Crimes of Grindelwald and Chan played Astrid in summer hit Crazy Rich Asians.

I got the chance to speak to Jude Law and Gemma Chan together, during recent press in Los Angeles for Captain Marvel, and asked them if there was something unique about starring in a Marvel film for the first time that took them by surprise. They both chipped in agreement with these words:

Cloaks, huh? If only Jude Law could steal away Harry Potter’s Cloak of Invisibility. Too bad, wrong timeline! Jude Law had to be especially covert, as the identity of his character was kept under wraps until just recently. We’d been speculating between the actor portraying Mar-Vell and Yon-Rogg for months and after hopping off set, Law had to dodge questions left and right about his Captain Marvel role.

Being in the MCU sounds a bit stressful. The two actors sound like they are describing their lives as spies, though it’s all about going the extra mile to give audiences a good experience at the movies when Captain Marvel comes out. Even though much of the time Marvel fans are hungry for any sliver of info about coming releases, many of us can say we do appreciate the actors remaining a little concealed on set and tight-lipped in service of their characters.

In Captain Marvel, the pair are members of a Kree military unit called Starforce that Carol Danvers is also a part of when we first meet the character. Jude Law’s character has been teased to be a mentor to Danvers, while Minn-Erva looks like a bad-ass soldier fighting at their side. You can see for yourself when Captain Marvel hits theaters on March 8.

If the romantic comedies of the past taught us one thing, it's that happy endings are possible. This summer's hit comeback for the genre, Crazy Rich Asians, was a success for more than the usual reasons. It showed moviegoers' hunger for inclusive stories through a fairytale-esque comedy about acceptance through an exploration of the Singapore elite.

Since Crazy Rich Asians is based on a series of three novels, we've been eager to see how the story will continue. Shortly after the film became a box office success, a sequel was greenlit. Screenwriters Peter Chiarelli and Adele Lim are returning to pen the new script, with director Jon M. Chu set to direct. Producer Nina Jacobson has told Deadline that a second and third Crazy Rich Asians sequel will be shot back-to-back in 2020.

That seems like ages, but the delay isn't a surprise, considering Jon M. Chu is devoting much of 2019 to his planned film adaptation of Tony-winning musical In the Heights. Also, with the breakout success of Crazy Rich Asians, much of the cast has jumped on other projects. Awkwafina has an upcoming Comedy Central television series, and Henry Golding has a holiday rom-com opposite Emilia Clarke (also starring Michelle Yeoh) called Last Christmas.

Once Jon M. Chu goes into post-production on In the Heights, he'd likely get ready for the two-film shoot and dive right into it in 2020. Filming the two sequels back-to-back will allow for the talent to knock out the entire trilogy all at once, and would mean there wouldn't be such a long gap between releasing the second and third films.

This news might mean the sequel to Crazy Rich Asians won't hit theaters until 2021, but all-in-all it's exciting that not one but two follow-ups to the rom-com are penciled in to the cast and crews' schedules. The first film was based on a series by Kevin Kwan which includes a second novel called China Rich Girlfriend and third named Rich People Problems.

The second film is said to focus more on Gemma Chan's Astrid, who was dealing with the demise of her relationship with her husband in Crazy Rich Asians. Fans of the novels know there's much more to tell regarding Astrid, along with the second novel also focusing on Nick and Rachel as they travel to Mainland China to learn the truth of her father.

The Crazy Rich Asians filmmakers also struggled with balancing the many talents of the all-Asian cast, with some supporting roles not fully explored. So there's plenty of material to work with and the franchise can easily fill three films full of comedic moments and touching storylines.

Crazy Rich Asians was just nominated for two Golden Globes for Best Picture, with the film's star Constance Wu nabbing a Best Actress nod. The high-acclaim solidifies the film's immense success after it made over $237 million worldwide at the box office and been praised by audiences and critics alike.

After the events of Avengers: Infinity War, the future of your favorite characters may be looking a bit bleak. Before audiences can gaze upon the second act of Thanos' reign of terror, Marvel is dusting off another origin story to be a beacon of light with Captain Marvel, arriving in March.

Fans were recently granted the first look at Captain Marvel, when the first trailer was released. While the initial shoot for the upcoming release wrapped in July, the cast and crew has recently returned to set for some reshoots. And Captain Marvel's Minn-erva, played by Crazy Rich Asians' Gemma Chan, has joined as well. Take a look at Chan's update on Twitter:

Gemma Chan looks to be ready to do some damage with that fist in unmistakable Kree blue, and the green and black suit that the military team known as Starforce wears in the film. Carol Danvers also wears the get-up in the film, as she is a part of the Starforce herself before mysteriously finding herself back on Earth. Gemma Chan's character is known as Minn-erva and Doctor Minerva and is known as a villain in the comic books. While the Skrulls are said to be the main antagonists of the film, Minn-erva could still play a baddie role too. Check her out on the right in full costume as the character:

Word of reshoots typically get a bad reputation and worry fans, but in cases of blockbusters (especially Marvel films) they are quite routine. Kevin Feige has discussed the misconception before, explaining how reshoots are often done because MCU films are collaborative processes that undergo many changes up until release. Avengers 4 recently wrapped on their own reshoots just months before the film will arrive in theaters, so reshoots for Captain Marvel aren't too surprising.

The Kree race was first introduced to the MCU in Guardians of the Galaxy, with the introduction of Lee Pace as Ronan the Destroyer. Ronan is set to return in Captain Marvel among other Kree characters including Minn-erva. Gemma Chan's character in the comic books is a geneticist and enemy to Mar-Vell, who will be played by Jude Law.

Captain Marvel will also see the return of more familiar characters -- Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury and Clark Gregg as Agent Coulson. Since the film takes place in 1995, the pair from S.H.I.E.L.D. with the digital de-aging technology Marvel Studios has used on Michael Douglas and Kurt Russell among others.

Gemma Chan is best known for her lead role in AMC's Humans, which concluded this year after its third season. Chan was also seen in one of this summer's blockbusters Crazy Rich Asians as Henry Young's sister Astrid. The actress will also be playing Bess of Hardwick in Mary Queen of Scots opposite Margot Robbie and Saoirse Ronan when it comes out in early December.

Captain Marvel will hit theaters on March 8, 2019.

The Kree have graced the Marvel Cinematic Universe already in Guardians of the Galaxy and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (they played a particularly important role in the first half of the latter TV show's current season), and we'll reunite with these aliens next year on the big screen in Captain Marvel. Carol Danvers' origin story is closely tied with the Kree in the comics, and from what's been revealed about the heroine's upcoming movie, the same will be true in the MCU. Late last year, it was reported that Jude Law was selected to play Mar-Vell, and today brings word that Humans star Gemma Chan has been cast as the operative known as Minn-Erva.

Like her comic book counterpart, Gemma Chan's Minn-Erva will be a Kree geneticst, though Deadline didn't report any specific information on how this iteration of the character will fit into Captain Marvel. If the rumors about Ben Mendelsohn playing Yon-Rogg are true, this makes Chan's Minn-Erva the third Kree character who's been announced to appear in Captain Marvel so far. Chan is currently playing Anita/Mia in the AMC series Humans, and her other notable credits include Secret Diary of a Call Girl, Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and Transformers: The Last Knight.

If Captain Marvel's Minn-Erva is anything like the one from the comics, then it's likely she'll be a force for evil rather than good. Using her genetic expertise and the special abilities she obtained from the Kree-Psyche Magnetron, she's clashed with heroes like Mar-Vell, Quasar, Spider-Man and Ms. Marvel on the printed page. Although the shapeshifting Skrulls have already been identified as Captain Marvel's main antagonists, it's also been reported that there will be a sinister Kree or two appearing in the movie. While it's not certain yet, you wouldn't be unwise to put money on Minn-Erva (a.k.a. Doctor Minerva) being one of these baddies, and with her own special powers, perhaps she'll go toe-to-toe with the newly-empowered Carol Danvers.

Set in the 1990s, Captain Marvel will follow Carol Danvers' transition from Air Force pilot to superheroine whose abilities include super strength, flight and energy absorption. In addition to Brie Larson playing the eponymous protagonist and Jude Law playing Mar-Vell, Samuel L. Jackson will reprise Nick Fury (who still has both eyes at this point), while Ben Mendelsohn, DeWanda Wise and Robert Kazinsky's roles haven't been officially disclosed yet. Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck are directing Captain Marvel, and Geneva Robertson-Dworet penned the screenplay.
