I feel like it’s been so long since I watched a new episode of Masterchef that I don’t think I could name a current season contestant if you asked me. Part of the problem is we weren’t sufficiently far into watching Masterchef Season 16 when Fox unceremoniously took the Gordon Ramsay starrer off the air. It’s not canceled, thank goodness, but it is seriously crazy how long it’s going to be before we get a new episode. Let’s talk it out.

Masterchef Is Off The Air Thanks To World Cup

So why is the popular reality competition show even off the air right now?

I think it’s easiest if we just talk about the elephant in the room, which is the World Cup. As you may well know, World Cup games are being played throughout the U.S. They are also airing across the U.S. on a smattering of networks including ESPN, NBC and Fox. The latter of which is the network that hosts all the Ramsay shows, including Masterchef, which is typically a summer program.

Unfortunately, that means it would theoretically be running during primetime when Fox knows people would rather be tuning in for soccer games right now. I get the hiatus in theory, but how it is working out in practicality is not great for viewers.

Masterchef Is Going To Be Off the Air For Weeks

Here’s where I get frustrated. Masterchef only began airing its new season back in April. Fans got through the audition round episodes, which are always less popular episodes, anyway. Then, we got four traditional Masterchef episodes in May and early June. Now, the show’s been off for weeks, and it’s not expected back soon.

In fact, all said and done, Masterchef will be off the air for six weeks in a row before Fox returns to its regular programming on the 2026 TV schedule. It was not summer or sweltering where I live when the show went on hiatus. It is now both summer and sweltering where I live, and I still have weeks to go before my favorite summer show is back on the air. Masterchef is expected to air new episodes again starting on Wednesday, July 15th.

I should note that it is very common for network TV shows to take hiatuses. We saw shows like SNL get pre-empted thanks to the Winter Olympics on NBC earlier this year. Sometimes network TV shows just take a few weeks off in the fall or spring, too. It’s not unusual to miss a couple of weeks. It’s also not uncommon for shows like Survivor to take really long breaks in between full seasons (more on how that production works).

However, six weeks is an incredibly long break to take in the middle of the action. We were just getting to the point in the season where many of the also-rans were getting eliminated and the really talented folks were starting to shine. Group challenges were a hot mess! Gordon was yelling at everyone! We were really getting into the good stuff, and now we’re just waiting. And waiting. And waiting.

Again, I hardly blame Fox for wanting to air the World Cup. I certainly don’t blame fans for wanting to watch the World Cup. It just feels like we could have either started the season earlier or picked it up later in order to avoid this mess, and I really hope the show doesn’t lose viewers for the rest of the season because of it.

We’re a few episodes into Season 5's gameplay portion of Next Level Chef, and I need to talk about Richard Blais. The former Top Chef winner and buzzy culinary star is, for the second consecutive season, playing with an aggressive and borderline reckless strategy that treats the individual players on his team more like chess pieces than human beings. As a viewer with some level of human empathy, I absolutely hate it, but as a seasoned reality show viewer and gamer, I can’t help but respect it.

Let’s do a quick recap of the rules to make sure we’re all on the same page before I start hating and praising Blais in equal measure. Each week, the chefs on Gordon Ramsay, Nyesha Arrington and Richard Blais’ teams cook on one of the levels according to a specific theme. Whoever has the best dish amongst all the competitors wins immunity for themselves and their entire team. Afterwards, the captains of the two losing teams must pick a representative to head into a 1v1 cookoff in which the loser is sent packing. It's a lot of fun.

For the first few seasons of the show, all three judges essentially responded to their team losing in the exact same way. Whoever had the worst dish amongst their own players was sent into the elimination challenge to cook for their lives. The logic there is pretty straightforward. Whoever did the worst job amongst the eligible players needs to step up and fight for their life. After all, they put themselves in that position by making a bad dish. Last season, however, Blais changed things up and started taking a far more strategic approach.

Instead of picking his chef who did the worst and hope they survive the elimination challenge, he would often pick one of his better chefs to more proactively try to knock out another contestant. From a ruthlessly strategic standpoint, that’s a terrific idea, at least if your goal is getting as many people on your team as far into the game as possible. Your best chef is very likely to beat another team’s worst chef, especially in the earlier rounds, and by maintaining a fuller roster for longer, your team is more likely to get shared immunity since you have more total dishes in contention. There’s also the bonus of giving your best chefs more sudden death experience so that, in theory, they’re more ready for the later rounds where they’re going to have to cook for their lives regardless.

From a fairness standpoint, however, that’s an infuriating strategy, and it also completely ignores that the competition is only kinda sorta a team competition. Sure, you’re sorted into teams initially and someone else getting the top dish from your team does save you for that episode, but part way through the show, the teams are disbanded and everyone competes as individuals. The first goal of Next Level Chef is to advance past the audition rounds. Then the next goal is to advance past the team competition into the individual competition. Finally, the last goal is to win by yourself. You don’t get any prize money if someone else on your team wins.

Ultimately, that’s what seems so morally complicated about Blais’ strategy. These chefs are competing to win $250,000 and a culinary mentorship. Most of them will never get a chance to win this much money in a short period of time again. Richard Blais wants someone from his team to win, but if you’re an individual chef who made a great dish on a given episode, I can’t imagine it feels very fair to be thrown into a sudden death cookoff specifically because you’re more capable.

Maybe the added advantage of feeling that pressure before will pay off down the line. Maybe eliminating a good competitor benefits you by not having to face them later in the show, but I’m not really sure those benefits outweigh just being safe and advancing to the next round. Weird stuff happens, and while the best chef will probably win a heads up cook-off, it’s not so likely they’ll win 3 or 4 heads up cook-offs.

I respect Richard's strategy. It brings a lot of intensity to Next Level Chef and serves as a nice contrast to Nyesha and Gordon, which creates a clearer rooting interest. It also plays well into the rivalry between the hosts, which the show leans into. His ruthlessness is definitely a value add, but as someone who cares about fairness and wants his chefs to get what they earn, I hate the way he plays the game.

Now, Ramsay's latest project will hopefully reveal to all of us just how in the heck he’s able to do all of that, and have a family, with only so many hours in a day.

56 days - February 18 (Prime Video)

Some relationships move fast, and then some result in dead bodies after less than two months. 56 Days, based on Catherine Ryan Howard's novel of the same name, introduces audiences to two lovers, Ciara (Dove Cameron) and Oliver (Avan Jogia), who meet and begin a relationship. 56 days later, an unidentified body is discovered, and questions arise regarding just what happened between these two. You'll need a Prime Video subscription to get your questions answered on this one.

Wild Boys: Strangers in Town - February 18 (Paramount+)

True crime fans probably already have a Paramount+ subscription as the streaming service has been a good source for documentary content of that sort, but its new offering is something a little different. Wild Boys: Strangers in Town is a two-part story about two boys who wandered into a British Columbia town claiming to have lived off the grid their entire lives. At first, their story seemed incredible, though to some it was literally unbelievable.

The Night Agent Season 3 - February 19 (Netflix)

This is what you get for answering the phone. The Night Agent opens when a man monitoring an emergency phone picks up and finds himself thrown into a deadly conspiracy. Things haven’t slowed down, as Season 3 of The Night Agent is here. If you’ve got your Netflix subscription ready to go, you can still binge through the first two seasons before the third season drops (in a rare move for Netflix these days) in its entirety.

The Last Thing He Told Me, Season 2 - February 20 (Apple TV)

The Last Thing He Told Me was a hit for everybody with an Apple TV subscription. The problem was that it was based on a book that was meant to be a standalone. However, Laura Dave’s sequel novel, The First Time I Saw Him, came out last month, and a second season of the show based on the book went into production alongside it. Ergo, fans will be getting a second dose.

The shortest month of the year wraps up next week with some of the biggest releases so far. If you’re dying to see what happens next with the new season of Bridgerton or can’t wait to be reunited with your friends from Scrubs, you don’t have too much longer to wait.

When it comes to famous TV chefs, few are as well-known or reputable as Gordon Ramsay. His food opinions have earned him many fans and helped many restaurants stay afloat over the years. So, needless to say, his takes on the culinary arts carry a bit of weight. For all the food he loves and celebrates, however, there is one food he can't bring himself to eat, and I definitely agree with him on this one.

Fans are currently waiting for Ramsay's various shows to return amid the 2026 TV schedule. In the meantime, UK-born chef shared one food he'll refuse to eat with The Takeout. I'm not surprised that he picked a vegetable, and I'm also not shocked that his reasoning came from how it is prepared:

I must note he said "overcooked Brussels sprouts" and didn't write off the food completely. Cooked on high heat and made crisp, the vegetable can be and is delicious. Unfortunately, they can be easy to overcook and, when the plant gets mushy, it starts to have a sulfurous smell that I would definitely liken to a fart.

It's been said by chefs that we eat with more than just our mouths, and this is a perfect example. As someone who has overcooked a Brussels sprout or two in my day, I would say the taste can be very similar. However, it is hard to get past the thought that it was made from Mortal Engines' machine that makes food out of poop. For the same reason, it's rude to break wind during a meal, it may be equally rude to fill the house with the smell of Brussels sprouts and expect everyone to enjoy the meal.

I do find it funny that Gordon Ramsay is offended by the odor of Brussels sprouts, especially since he once made whiskey with sheep poop. I guess that's technically not food, so that's where he draws the line.

Ramsay previously said he gave his worst insults to people who lied to him and, now, I'm just dying to see someone lie to him about leaving Brussels sprouts in the oven for too long. I find it hard to believe he'd react worse than the times he's been served spoiled or raw food, but I'd love to find out!

I'm eager for a new Gordon Ramsay show in 2026, so here's hoping we'll get an announcement about the return of a new project soon. In the meantime, be sure to check out his recent post celebrating his 29th anniversary, in which he looks almost exactly the same as he did back then.

I watch a lot of Gordon Ramsay shows, and every now and again, I suddenly remember he’s almost sixty years old. I’m not even forty, and were he not famous, there’s a distinct chance people would think he’s younger. There’s just something about his boyish smirk and vibrant way of expressing himself that feels youthful. It also helps that his face has barely aged since he first started appearing on our TV screens.

Earlier today, the acclaimed restaurateur and extremely successful reality show personality dropped a photo gallery to celebrate his anniversary. He’s been married to his wife Tana for twenty-nine years, and he threw it back to their wedding day to honor the milestone. He also included a touching caption about marrying his best friend. It’s all very sweet, but I just can’t stop focusing on how similar he looks almost three decades later. Check out these photos…

Now, before I glaze Gordon Ramsay a little bit more for finding the Fountain of Youth, I need to acknowledge that his wife looks incredible too. Ninety-nine percent of the world would commit crimes to continuously look this good for a thirty-year stretch. Whether or not she were married to the most recognizable chef in the world, she would turn heads walking into a restaurant. So, don’t take all this talk about her husband to be a shot at her. We’re all just a lot more familiar with his looks, though she has appeared in a guest capacity on MasterChef before.

I think the key for Ramsay is that he started out looking a bit older than he actually was. Call it the George Clooney effect. In his wedding photo, I think he could probably pass for being in his 40s, and now, he could clearly still pass for being in his 40s. It might seem like a big win to look extremely youthful early on, but sometimes that catches up with you.

In his case, he started looking more distinguished early on, and then figured out how to just coast off that, with a little help from Botox which he's been honest about. It’s like when you go to a wedding and somehow portion your drinks out perfectly so just a nice level of tipsy for like six consecutive hours.

In all seriousness though, huge congrats to Gordon and Tana. Being married for nearly thirty years is a huge accomplishment. Maintaining that love and devotion for that long while also dealing with the pressures of seemingly being on ten TV shows at once and maintaining a restaurant empire has to be borderline impossible. I love it when people stay together, and I especially love it when famous people set the example, despite assumedly having plenty of other options.

Fingers crossed they both look incredible in another twenty-nine years.

I love cooking, and that often involves someone like Gordon Ramsay’s TV shows. Yes, while I have gone on and on about the wonders of cooking channels on YouTube or watching the best baking shows to spark inspiration, one of my favorites has always been Ramsay and his silly (yet successful) cooking shows, many of which premiere as part of the 2025 TV schedule.

But as someone who has basically majored in all things Gordon Ramsay over the last few years or so, I’ve started to notice something about his latest series, Gordon Ramsay’s Secret Service – and how it feels exactly like one of his other shows, let’s get into it.

I've Been A Fan Of Gordon Ramsay For Years

I know I said in the introduction that I’m a fan of Gordon Ramsay, but I really am. Seriously. My boyfriend makes the constant joke that if I’m not watching the latest and greatest on the Netflix TV schedule or at the movie theater, I’m probably learning how to cook a Beef Wellington from Gordon Ramsay.

I’ve been an avid lover of all the crazy Hell’s Kitchen moments. I’ve loved any new show that he’s released, including Next Level Chef. But his latest series – Gordon Ramsay’s Secret Service – isn’t inspired. In fact, it’s lame because it’s just like another one of his shows.

But Gordon Ramsay's Secret Service Is A Direct Ripoff Of Kitchen Nightmares

Gordon Ramsay is the kind of celebrity who, over the last decade, has only gotten more popular as the internet continues to resurface past content. One show that did mighty well online years after it stopped premiering was Kitchen Nightmares. In fact, it did so well that it ended up getting revived and has been running for two seasons now. However, his new series, Gordon Ramsay’s Secret Service, is essentially just Kitchen Nightmares, but now he gets to…break and enter at night?

Jokes aside, let me break it down for you. In Kitchen Nightmares, owners of restaurants willingly sign on for the show for Gordon to come, try their food, see how bad their place is, and then get their butts whipped into shape by the legendary chef, so that they’re a fully functioning restaurant by the end of the episode.

Secret Service does the same thing – except, this time, it’s not the owner willingly doing it. Instead, it’s an “insider” (who’s usually just a part of the restaurant staff) who reaches out to Gordon asking for help. This leads to Gordon being able to enter the restaurant after hours, see how bad their kitchen looks, and then the next day through “secret” cameras, he spots how patrons react to the food and send in two close chef buddies of his to taste the food unbiased because the owner has no idea.

From there, Gordon unceremoniously storms in, surprises everyone, and says, “shut it down,” only for them to do the same thing Kitchen Nightmares does. Revamp the menu and renovate the space. There’s really not that much of a difference between the two, except that now the owner doesn’t really know what’s going on, so I suppose that leads to less bias in the cooking? I’m not even sure.

I Think They're Slowly Starting To Run Out Of Ideas

Gordon Ramsay is great. I really do love him, and I think he’s a big reason as to why I ended up going on my cooking journey – that and the movie Ratatouille.

But at the same time, I really think Fox, the network behind all of Gordon’s shows, is starting to run out of ideas. I think there’s more we could explore in the food space – perhaps Gordon traveling to other countries, exploring specific cuisines, or something similar. We don’t need to see him yelling at people every single time to be entertaining.

With how successful Ramsay’s shows are, I wouldn’t be shocked if this ended up getting renewed. But I hope that if it does, they take another look and see how they can really diversify the show from Kitchen Nightmares.

In the midst of gimmick seasons, judging changes and Covid-related abnormalities, MasterChef quietly stopped doing one of its best challenges. For its first ten seasons, the pressure test was used consistently as a way to determine how some contestants got eliminated, but then suddenly, it was gone without explanation. Now it’s back, and I’m confused but also really fired up.

Before we start cooking, let’s do a little prep work here and talk about what the pressure test is and how it was used. As I said, MasterChef has undergone a lot of format changes over the years, but at its most basic, the show works with an every other week structure.

The first week, contestants compete in a challenge inside the MasterChef Kitchen. Typically, it’s a mystery box that requires each player to make a dish using the ingredients in their box, or sometimes based only on a specific protein in their box. Now and again, it's something a lot weirder like the beloved tag team challenge, but regardless, it always takes place inside the MasterChef kitchen.

The second week, the surviving contestants split into teams and do a challenge where each group cooks for like a large group of randoms at a weird location. Maybe it'll be a hundred hungry farmers. One team might choose to make steak tacos with slaw and corn, and the other might choose to make a chicken sandwich with fries and green beans.

That’s where the pressure test used to come in. The losing team would see some or all of its members compete in a short timed challenge back in the MasterChef kitchen to determine who goes home. Typically, it would force them to do something like make a perfect poached egg or cook a steak to exactly medium rare. More often than not, it would be something they were capable of doing, but the pressure of potentially going home would make it harder to execute.

It was always riveting to watch, but unfortunately, in more recent seasons, the show stopped doing it. Instead, Gordon Ramsay and the judges would eliminate whoever they felt did worst in the team challenge itself and immediately send them home. In fairness, that format allowed us to see a little more of what actually happened during the challenge. It also eliminated an entirely separate shoot for the crew, but in cutting those corners, it also removed one of the most compelling elements of the show.

To be honest, I assumed we’d never see the pressure test again, but then, out of nowhere, Ramsay told the contestants on last week’s episode that the losing team would head into a pressure test. I audibly gasped and pointed at my television like that Leonardo DiCaprio meme from Once Upon A Time In Hollywood. It’s apparently going to kick off during the next episode, and I am elated.

There’s no obvious right answer for long-running reality shows. If you stick too closely to the same format, some fans get bored and eventually bail on the show. If you tinker with the specifics too often, however, other fans will get frustrated and stop watching. It’s a delicate balance, which is why I don’t blame MasterChef for experimenting and getting rid of the pressure test for awhile. That being said, I cannot believe it took them this long to bring it back. Producers had to know fans have been clamoring for it.

Regardless, I’m just glad to see it back. MasterChef hit the TV release schedule a little more than a month ago, and you can watch it with me on Wednesdays on FOX or the next day on Hulu.

MasterChef is one of my favorite shows on television. If I had my way, it would run in the spring and fall so we’d get two seasons a year instead of just one during the summer. It’s a delightful way to spend an hour and has made me want to improve my real life cooking, but as a fan, I need to say something out loud. I love how the actual competition is formatted with episodes alternating between the always chaotic team challenges and solo challenges, but I absolutely hate the structure of the auditions.

Once upon a time, the way it used to work is a potential contestant would cook for the judges, and they would decide, based on the strength of the dish, whether that person deserved an apron to get on the actual show. So, in theory, they were cooking against every single other person auditioning to meet some kind of threshold of performance in the minds of the judges.

That’s not the way it works anymore though. Instead, they have contestants literally cook against each other with the winner taking home an apron and getting a spot on the show. Instead of competing against everyone, they’re competing against one person in a mini-battle that sees one of them advance.

Let’s use this season as an example. The theme is duos, and contestants are auditioning as pairs alongside someone they’re close to. So, we might get a husband and wife or a brother and a sister or two firefighters that cook together at the station. So, it’s not 1v1. It’s 2v2, but the concept is the same. Producers will pair two husband and wife teams together, and they’ll both cook at the same time. The judges will taste each of their dishes and decide which one goes home and which duo gets the apron and advances.

That sounds good on paper. It adds a more direct competition element to the auditions and allows viewers to root for the team they’d rather see go through. In real life, however, it can be really frustrating to watch, and I’m sure it’s infuriating for the actual contestants too because the quality of these auditions varies sharply.

We’ll see one audition where both teams absolutely knock it out of the park. Judges Gordon Ramsay, Joe Bastianich and newcomer Tiffany Derry will rant and rave about what both of the duos did and talk about how impossible the choice is. Then they’ll send one team through and one team will be left devastated as they exit the MasterChef kitchen for good. Then we’ll get the next audition and both teams will make blatant amateur hour mistakes. Stuff will be undercooked. The flavor combinations will be all wrong. They’ll both be a hot mess but because of the format, we’ll see one of the teams go through.

Clearly, the producers have an eye toward casting with the entire process. I’m not saying they’re intentionally letting worse teams through because they think they’ll make better television, but I am saying if you look at the pairs they put together, it’s quite obvious they’re both candidates to fit a particular role on the show. So, we’ll get two pairs of longtime dude friends cooking against each other. Next, we’ll get two happily married couples cooking against each other. The producers obviously want to fill that archetype to balance out the show.

Finding some level of balance and personality variance is important to creating a fun and watchable season, but the way these audition episodes are put together just make it really obvious that many of the better contestants are getting cut. It’s just being rubbed in our faces that worse people are getting through.

I think there are two possible solutions here. Either the show should return to how the auditions used to be held with everyone auditioning on their own and either getting aprons or not getting aprons, or they should no longer air the auditions, have the producers cast whoever is going to make the best television and give us a few extra episodes of real competition. Maybe we could get non-elimination weeks or maybe the show could start with a few more people to fill the extra episode count.

MasterChef is great. Despite changes in judges, various seasons with gimmick formats and the occasional twist that goes too far, it has maintained a fun level of quality. I’ll keep watching the show as long as they’re going to make it, but next season, I hope I tune in to find the audition episodes either changed format or don’t exist anymore.

So, I love Gordon Ramsay, but my appreciation for him developed in recent years.

During the pandemic, I mainly spent my time applying to new places and binge-watching food shows that made me hungry. Eventually, this led me to all of Gordon Ramsay's cooking shows, and while there are plenty that I love—such as his latest, Next Level Chef, or a classic like MasterChef—there's one show that truly captured my heart, and that is Hell's Kitchen.

The Americanized version exploded and has been ongoing for twenty-four seasons now. During those binging times, I watched every season of Hell's Kitchen so far and have stayed up to date with it each year since then. It's made me laugh, feel stressed, and smile so often that it's hard to count.

But for the first time, Hell's Kitchen has made me cry – or, more specifically, Gordon Ramsay did, and I have to talk about it.

Let Me Start By Saying That I've Always Loved Hell's Kitchen

As I said in the introduction, Hell's Kitchen has been my favorite Ramsay show for a while, and it's for a good reason.

It's not just because it has excellent competition. I like how the show has evolved so well. There are a lot of competition shows or reality shows that are just the same thing over and over again, or they evolve in the wrong way.

For example, Love Is Blind has evolved in some good ways, but Love Is Blind Season 7 has been messy and less enjoyable. The same thing applies to competition shows like The Voice or American Idol; they've changed judges and specific aspects of the show over the years, but maybe not always for the better.

Hell's Kitchen, has changed things up all the time, really for the last several seasons. From this season focusing primarily on executive chefs to other seasons focusing on young ones to those that are all about All-Stars, it constantly changes, and I like that.

The Show Itself Makes Me Stressed – In An Entertaining Way

Aside from the show evolving, Hell's Kitchen genuinely makes me feel stressed – but in a good, entertaining way, which is why it's such good television.

Think of one of the best Hulu shows: The Bear. That's the most stressful original series on television, but you can't help but watch it because there's entertainment within the stress. It lures you in, just like Hell's Kitchen does. Is Ramsay going to yell at the contestants? Is he going to throw a random salmon into the wall? Or is everything going to work out?

That kind of suspense and stressfulness entertains me so much, and I feel giddy half the time.

But Gordon Ramsay Had A Very Emotional Moment In The Latest Season – And It Got Me Crying For The First Time

For the first time… instead of making me stressed or laugh or any of that, Gordon Ramsay made me cry during Hell's Kitchen -- in a good way.

Let me paint the scene. It's the fifth episode of Season 23, and one of the contestants, Egypt, an executive banquet chef, is this close to quitting the competition. Why? Two reasons – the Blue Team (his team) has basically teamed up against him, and he's experiencing some severe homesickness, which really anyone can relate to.

These people are far away from their families for weeks on end, and he misses his family and, most certainly, his daughter. Anyone can understand that. When he tells Ramsay, I was almost expecting him just to let him go, considering we've lost a good amount of contestants already in this season. But Ramsay pulls him aside.

Ramsay actually has a heart-to-heart with Egypt away from the other contestants, where he admits that he's had moments like this too – especially since, at the time of filming, Ramsay's wife had just given birth to a newborn, and he couldn't be there with her. It kills him inside, but he pushes through it. He then goes on to tell Egypt that there's a reason he's kept him around, despite his team ganging up on him, and it's because Ramsay believes in him and he sees something that his team does not.

The two exchange a hug, with Ramsay helping him gain back his confidence and step back out into the kitchen. And that scene… it just hit me. So hard. I think it's because while I've seen the kinder side of Ramsay in many of his other shows, we don't see that in this series.

This is a serious show, and it always has been. It's about who is going to lead Ramsay's next restaurant, and that's a big deal. But seeing this understanding side of him, genuinely connecting with one of the head chefs – made me sob pretty hard because it just makes me realize that even the most skilled and decorated people combat things as simple as homesickness. It's a moment that makes you connect even more with Ramsay, and I appreciate that.

I Hope That We Can See This Side Of Him More In Hell's Kitchen

I know that it's rare for us to get this side of Ramsay again. This show rarely tends to lean in that regard. But I don't know – I really would like it to. The series is going to continue to air as part of the 2024 TV schedule, and I really think that people seeing Ramsay connecting with his contestants more is a big deal.

While it's obvious Gordon Ramsay isn't always the big, mean chef all the time – because who can be? – it's nice to see this change of heart. And I hope it's something we see a heck of a lot more in the future.

For now, I'll just enjoy my little cooking channels on YouTube while I wait for the next episode to drop—and try to resist the urge to make Beef Wellington again.

MasterChef Season 14 ‘Age Is Just A Number’ just hit the TV schedule  and is available for those with a Hulu subscription. But spoilers can be found throughout the story. Just giving you a heads up!

My husband and I always argue about what the best portion of any given MasterChef season is. Is it the auditions for the Gordon Ramsay show? Is it when a large swathe of contestants are left? Is it when the cast has narrowed down and you can’t hide behind a mediocre dish? One thing we can agree on is that the first team challenge is always a delightful mess every. single. year. And I was pleased as punch about the latest episode. 

MasterChef tee’d us up for the first team challenge with some cast interviews mentioning they were prepped to go out into the field, and when I say field, I mean a literal field. The cast split into teams to feed 101 members of the LAFC soccer team. Of course, there are four teams this season, and that’s where the chaos primarily ensued. 

While not all twists on the show work, the conceit on MasterChef Season 14 is just way better than a lot of other concepts the show has tried. Gordan Ramsay and the other producers have split the cast into four teams based on what generation they hail from: Baby Boomers, Millennials, GenX and Gen Z. Those four teams had to split into two teams for this challenge, which meant Gen X and Gen Z were paired together and Millennials teamed up with Baby Boomers. 

It was, for lack of a better word, chaos. It’s always a mess when these folks who are mostly home cooks try to start cooking in large volumes, but throw a bunch of slow moving and cranky old people in with assertive millennials and there were problems immediately. The captain Anna (a millennial) couldn’t get along with the previously likable but very foolish Rebecca (baby boomer) who inexplicably even argued with Gordon when he tried to tell her she needed help cooking halibut. 

Hot Tip: If you are on a reality competition show with Gordon Ramsay, maybe don’t argue with him or mutter at him under your breath.  

Over on the other team, Becca (Gen Z) did a great job keeping things moving during meal planning, but her idea of leadership was sending platitudes of encouragement out for the rest of the night. Two more enterprising members of her team, Chris and Adam, tried to actually jump in and get the execution of the steak right -- the toughest bit -- while the rest of her team quietly produced OK accouterments. They ultimately ended up 12 plates short of sending out enough dishes, though the other team ended up a little short too. 

Everyone was stressed on the red team (Millennials and Boomers) and talking smack about one another. That's reality TV drama in the most normal fashion, but the other blue team (Gen X and Z)  wasn't immune to problems either. Largely, on the blue team, everyone was trying to be supportive and help each other out but no one was able to really take charge and get enough plates out. At one point, service was going poorly and I distinctly remember Becca hopefully saying, 'It feels like a train wreck but stay with me.' As you may have guessed, nothing changed after this.

It's really hard to be the losing team when you are cooking steak for a sports team. (I'm hungry just thinking about the reality show.) They were the losing team. 

My husband would say that right now, while the chefs are trying to figure out who's great in the kitchen and who's not, there's the most honest and interesting reality TV moments happening. My counter argument would be that at this point a lot of chefs are hiding behind mundane tasks like cooking vegetables or making other sides. 

It's great TV, but the downside to this portion of MasterChef is that sometimes talented people go home early specifically because they take on leadership roles, while other contestants hide out in the middle. That's exactly what seems to have happened here, as the blue team ultimately lost, and those who attempted to take charge (Adam, Chris and Becca) were all on the chopping block. 

Chris ultimately went home this week after failing to execute on the cook of over 101 steaks, which honestly sucked because he was the only person on his entire team who really looked like he was trying to get a handle on this beast of a challenge and busting his butt to get stuff done, while Fatima phoned in a mediocre polenta and Becca tried to continually tell everyone how “proud” she was of them. 

I don't blame Gordon and co. for the decision, as there really is just a difference between executing like 6 steaks at home and executing like 100+ on TV. Chris just didn’t quite get there.  

Still, this is why I have a tendency to enjoy Gordon, Joe, and Aarón's critiquing best when there are 7-8 contestants left. At that point, most of the chefs who can't hack the competition have been eliminated and we get some of the best food of the season.

I still love a good trainwreck though. 

I am a devoted Gordon Ramsay reality TV shows fan. His cooking competition shows are some of my favorite reality TV programs. They’re the best cooking shows to watch when you want to relax and watch people stress about cooking. Ramsay’s no-nonsense approach and charisma make these shows appealing. However, adding Lisa Vanderpump to Gordon Ramsay’s Food Stars demonstrates that sometimes a TV series needs a little more than just the Ramsay appeal.

Gordon Ramsay’s Food Stars is one of Fox and Ramsay’s latest collaborations. The series involves several contestants in the food and drink industry competing to have Ramsay invest in their business. Each week, they have challenges to prove they have enough business savvy to deserve an investment. Every week, Ramsay eliminates a contestant.  

A version of the series originally debuted in the UK in 2022. It was called Gordon Ramsay's Future Food Stars. It aired for two seasons. There is also an Australian version called Gordon Ramsay's Food Stars Australia. The first season only involved Ramsay as mentor and judge, but Season 2 got a bit of a makeover with Lisa Vanderpump joining the series. It is the show’s best decision yet.  

Lisa Vanderpump And Gordon Ramsay Have Great Co-hosting Chemistry

Gordon Ramsay’s Food Stars is probably one of my least favorite Ramsay shows. And I think that’s because the first season was a bit boring. I don’t need Ramsay to scream at contestants to enjoy them. In fact, MasterChef and Next Level Chef are my favorite Ramsay shows. He yells occasionally in them, but it’s not the screaming Ramsay that people most associate with the celebrity chef. 

Gordon Ramsay’s Food Stars wasn’t boring because it didn’t have intense Ramsay. It was just missing something. Vanderpump became that missing piece. Ramsay has a personality that shines best when he can bounce off of someone else. We’ve seen that with his various Masterchef co-hosts. This part of his film persona really stands out in Next Level Chef with Nyesha Arrington and Richard Blais.

Vanderpump and Ramsay bring a new type of co-hosting chemistry that we haven’t seen in his previous series. It’s playful but also has an undertone of extreme competitiveness. Ramsay and Vanderpump probably don’t care much about who wins because it’s a reality TV show that likely doesn’t improve or hinder their lives. They are there to entertain most of all. However, the series convinces you that both hosts really want to win for the glory of it.

Blais and Arrington would enjoy winning but neither have that “I must beat Gordon” attitude (fake or real) that Vanderpump brings to the competition. It's entertaining that she may want the win just to say she beat Gordon Ramsay.

It Adds A Fun Element To Gordon Ramsay’s Food Stars 

In Gordon Ramsay’s Food Stars Season 1, it was all about the competitors going against each other for the grand prize. Season 2 makes it not just about them but about Ramsay and Vanderpump going against each other. It adds an extra layer of competition that makes the show more fun.

It also makes Ramsay and Vanderpump more invested in their teams winning. The contestants on Gordon Ramsay’s Food Stars Season 2 are somewhat interesting. However, I must admit, I am more invested in the Ramsay vs. Vanderpump competition. It has no real stakes but the winner can pretend it proves they are better at running businesses.

Gordon Ramsay and Lisa Vanderpump have built empires with various businesses and within the show business space. Their success ties directly into the appeal of their on-screen personalities. That’s why this battle between them is so interesting. It’s a battle of TV titans. 

Vanderpump Brings Some Chaos To The Show 

I love reality TV competition shows but I don’t often watch lifestyle-based reality TV. Despite them being considered some of the best reality TV shows ever created, I don’t watch The Real Housewives franchise, Vanerpump Rules, and other Lisa Vanderpump spin-off shows. Therefore, I had no prior knowledge of her personality. 

However, she immediately brought chaos to the Season 2 premiere of Gordon Ramsay’s Food Stars. Vanderpump was funny, charming, and unpredictable. Even when Ramsay is being chaotic, it feels more rehearsed and planned. Even if Vanderpump is just acting, her brand of chaos feels more spontaneous and unpredictable. It adds a tiny bit of unhinged energy to this Fox reality TV show. 

My unfamiliarity with Vanderpump makes me more intrigued to see the dynamic she brings to Gordon Ramsay’s Food Stars, and how that blends with Ramsay long term. 

It Helps Food Stars Stand Out From Other Ramsay Series 

Gordon Ramsay’s Food Stars isn’t quite like the many other Fox Ramsay shows because it blends competition TV shows with docuseries. It’s less like Hell’s Kitchen and more like The Profit and other business-type reality TV.

Some of the changes in Season 2 make the show feel like it has found its identity. Season 1 and Season 2 have the same premise but minor changes, including adding Lisa Vanderpump, help shape the show into a competitive TV show that also offers some insight into running a business, and the things that come with that, like marketing, branding, and product development. 

You understand this idea more by seeing the contrasting business approaches of Ramsay and Vanderpump. 

It Opens The Door For Different Co-hosts In Future Seasons 

I would gladly watch Lisa Vanderpump become Gordon Ramsay’s permanent co-host on Gordon Ramsay’s Food Stars. However, I also wouldn’t mind the idea of a different co-host each season, or getting even more chaotic by adding a third co-host. 

Vanderpump is great and I love her dynamic with Ramsay, but I am also curious to see his dynamic with other new co-hosts. Additionally, I would love to see other reality TV show titans compete against him in Food Stars.  Adding Vanderpump showed me how refreshing it is to see someone new, but a reality TV all-star, enter the world of Ramsay competition shows. 

I wouldn’t go as far as to call Gordon Ramsay’s Food Stars an underrated cooking show, but it may get there if Vanderpump continues to add a refreshing twist to the series. 

Gordon Ramsey’s known for dishing out tips on cooking but, more recently, the famed chef and TV personality dished out some wisdom on another topic entirely. Unfortunately, the 57-year-old revealed that he was in a bike accident this past week, which required that he go to the hospital. Ramsay is, thankfully, doing ok at this point and, when opening up about the ordeal in a video, he shared a vital piece of safety advice for anyone else who enjoys cycling. And, if his comments don’t sway you, then the massive bruise he showed off in the clip will surely sway you. 

The British star took to his Instagram account on Saturday to discuss the unfortunate situation that befell him this past week. Not only did the post include a video message and a few photos, but it also included a lengthy caption. The chef and businessman, who has six kids, framed his comments as a Father’s Day message. While laying out the situation, he also shared his piece of advice, which he emphasized in all caps: 

In the video attached to the post, Gordon Ramsey admitted that the accident “shook” him. Adding further validity to that notion was the fact that his hand was shaking when he explained what happened. The two photos Ramsey shared display what he looked like before the mishap and how his helmet appeared afterwards. What really catches the eye, though, is the giant bruise on the side of Ramsey’s body. Take a look: 

That may be the biggest bruise I’ve ever seen and, based on how serious it looks, that had to have been some accident. With that, it’s not hard to understand at all why the Hell’s Kitchen star would feel as though he’s “lucky to be here.” I think I speak for plenty of people when I say that I’m glad he’s still with us and is mostly doing fine. We’d also be wise to listen to his plea to wear a helmet whenever we’re riding bikes ourselves. 

Some other notable stars have actually suffered injuries in cycling-related calamities over the past few years. Simon Cowell broke his back in 2020 due to an E-bike accident and swiftly underwent surgery. And, in 2022, Cowell had a second E-bike ordeal, which left him with a broken arm and several other injuries. Just this past May, actress Nina Dobrev had a harrowing accident involving a dirt bike. Weeks after Dobrev received well wishes from Vampire Diaries alums, Sarah Michelle Gellar and more, she discussed the situation while on The Talk (via YouTube). As she explained, she “lost control” of the bike and as a result of the accident, had to have knee surgery and have repairs done to her ACL and meniscus. 

Gorgon Ramsay has proven to be quite daring in his time, even once fleeing from a hippo on his show, Uncharted. If Ramsay’s video message tells us anything, it’s that he’s definitely learned from his experience. Let’s just hope that he remains safe if or when he decides to get back on a bike again.

Whether it's dispensing business-saving advice to restaurateurs in need, or weighing in on whether or not pineapple belongs on pizza, Ramsay remains one of the most popular chefs on television with a litany of programming to prove it.

While it often seems like at least one Gordon Ramsay-starring show is on the air at any given moment, there are indeed gaps between seasons in many cases. So here's our lineup of everything currently on the air, everything yet to come, and other programs that are done for now and are available for streaming. Ramsay is known for his criticism, but I think he’d have no notes about this fantastic list of offerings.

What Gordon Ramsay Shows Are On The Air?

There's no denying that the British chef has found a way to ensure he's on the tube quite frequently throughout the year with a wide variety of shows, whether he's doing the cooking or railing on others behind the stove. Here are the shows that are currently airing:

Hell's Kitchen

Hell's Kitchen is one of the longest-running Gordon Ramsay programs on television and has featured many surprising moments throughout its run. The series kicked off Season 23 in late September, and fortunately, we already know that Season 24 will be happening in 2025. I’m grateful, because seeing two teams take each other on in unique cooking challenges has become one of reality television’s greatest challenges.

What Gordon Ramsay Shows Are Coming To Television?

Gordon Ramsay might be the only professional chef with more television shows than Guy Fieri, and that's not a bad thing. Sure, there may be some similarities from the multitude of shows he's bringing to the back half of 2024 and beyond. But let's be honest, if viewers didn't like the general premise, they wouldn't still be on television. As such, here's a lineup of all the shows on the way for the new year, all of which feature Ramsay doing what he does best.

MasterChef (To Be Confirmed)

MasterChef closed out Season 14 this year, and what a season it was. The popular cooking competition that pits amateur and home chefs against each other for the coveted title of "Master Chef" had a Generations-themed season, and after many weeks of fierce competition, it was business owner Michael Leonard who ended up winning it all. While Fox hasn’t officially announced that the series will return for Season 15, it would be very surprising to find out the massively popular show would be canceled.

Gordon Ramsay’s Food Stars(To Be Confirmed)

Being a great chef is a part of being a success in the food world, but being a great businessman might even be an even better asset. Perhaps this is why Gordon Ramsay started his Food Stars series, which focuses just as much on the successful business side as on food quality. Season 2 wrapped on July 24th, with Jess Druey taking home the $250,000 prize. There’s no official word just yet on Season 3, though it wouldn’t be surprising to see one of the more diverse offerings from Ramsay get another season.

Next Level Chef Season 4

With its third season having wrapped in May 2024, Next Level Chef will return to Fox for Season 4 likely in the 2025 premiere schedule. Next Level Chef will return for Season 4 as Gordon Ramsay, Nyesha Arrington, and Richard Blaishelps mentor three teams who compete in a stacked kitchen space of varying qualities. The top level is the best kitchen, the middle standard, and the lowest full of equipment that could be better. It's a fun premise, especially for those who like to see skilled chefs competing against whatever challenges they face. CinemaBlend's Alexandra Ramos called it Ramsay's best show in years for a myriad of reasons.

Kitchen Nightmares (2023)

Kitchen Nightmares continues Gordon Ramsay's attempt to save restaurant owners from financial ruin. The show has dealt with everything from people who inherited the business from their parents and don't know how to run a business to even worse nightmare situations than that. The series was revived by Fox for a revival season in 2023, and there’s reports that another season is in the works as of 2024. So far, though, no official word has come from Fox on that front.

MasterChef Junior

MasterChef Junior hasn't been on as long as the flagship series, but fans love it just as much. Deadline reported the spinoff, which has showcased talented young cooks like the late Ben Watkins, recently wrapped up will return for Season 9. We’re still waiting on the official word for whether or not it will return for Season 10 or not, so keep on the lookout for a premiere date and whatever awesome young talent will take a shot at becoming the next MasterChef.

Gordon Ramsay: Uncharted

Gordon Ramsay: Uncharted is a bit different than the usual offerings from the chef, as the National Geographic series follows him on a journey through some of the world's most remote locations in search of the best culinary dishes and cultural experiences that can't be found anywhere else. Some might think this is similar to shows Anthony Bourdain did back in the day, though Ramsay would be happy to contest it. While there hadn’t been a season since 2021, Studio Ramsay brought back the series for Season 4 recently and readers can stream it with a Disney+ subscription.

Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end. The good thing is that in this case, a good deal of these former Gordon Ramsay shows are either available to stream on Tubi, with a Peacock Premium subscription, or somewhere else. All the spoilers on the MasterChef Season 13 finale can be found throughout this piece. Don’t say I didn’t warn ya. 

The finale of MasterChef can be a tricky one when it hits the TV schedule. While the contestants get free rein to pursue their own progressive course menus, after a season of having to create food based around a certain challenge, I’d assume that freedom can be intimidating. As a huge fan of Gordon Ramsay's Fox shows, I've seen chefs have both confident and not-so-confident moments over the years, MasterChef Season 13 winner Grant Gillion recently revealed the moment he felt like he had the “W” in the bag. To be honest, though, I’m shocked he felt so confident. 

Look, I like Grant. After Kyle got a lot of the Midwest momentum early on in the season, Grant emerged as a real contender. While he had a couple of moments in a row where he was on the bottom, he got back into a good stride. While he didn’t dominate every single challenge thereafter, he was certainly a contender for the majority of the season, but even in the finale I wouldn’t call him completely dominant. 

Which is why I was so surprised about his comments in an interview about the September 2023 finale. In fact, Gillon recently told TV Guide he was confident he had it in the bag after the third course, noting, 

That's a bold statement but it did pay off. Grant's coffee ice cream in particular was cited as being outstanding during the dessert course; however, leading into that moment things were much closer. In fact, it seemed very clear as a viewer that Kennedy had pulled ahead after the first course. The entrees were all praise, including Jennifer's, and while Grant seemingly had the edge on the desserts, it wasn't completely clear to me as a viewer he was headed toward the win. 

Interestingly, Grant had the same take on how the courses played out that I did, with Kennedy taking an early lead (though Grant's pasta was fairly well-received) and the judges all liking Kennedy's rabbit, Jennifer's venison and Grant's pork loin medallions in the second course similarly. Yet, when it came to dessert, the MasterChef star saw his chance to edge ahead. 

It turns out, the Iowa native was right.

What Was The Moment That Gave Grant Gillon The Feeling He'd Won?

Again, it's not like I thought Grant somehow put up a sloppy performance and came out with a "w," I was just surprised to hear him say he felt pretty good about the end result before judges Gordon Ramsay, Joe Bastianich and Aáron Sánchez came to their final conclusions. However, in the same interview with TV Guide he noted there really was one single moment in which he felt like he'd hit the secret formula. 

Intriguingly, it really was the ice cream that was praised during that final round. One other point that really fell in the Midwest-based reality star's favor: Kennedy struggled more with dessert. If I remember correctly, Aáron compared her cake to a "bagel," and it was certainly not a compliment. Jennifer's dessert fared a little better, but it seemed as if Grant had handily won that course. 

To me, the surprise element comes from the fact the first course had (seemingly) been dominated by Kennedy and he'd dominated the third course, and while I certainly think he did enough to win, it's not like it came off like it was a blow out. It's so interesting to me to hear him later say he felt he had it in the bag. 

Honestly, it makes me wonder if some of the stuff that was left on the editing floor would have helped clarify Grant Gillon's feelings a bit further? The problems with MasterChef, am I right? Luckily, while the Fox series is over for Season 13, Gordon Ramsay certainly has plenty of shows coming to Fox this fall. 

If you’ve been a fan of MasterChef on the TV schedule for the last decade plus, you should know the series is not afraid to try new concepts, new twists, and occasionally even new themes for entire seasons. Season 13, for example, started out as a battle of regions (Midwest, South and so on and so forth) before splitting into an individual competition. Another recent season was an all-stars season subtitled “Back To Win” and featuring returning heavy hitters. Yet as the latest season of the hit show is coming to a close, I’m here to say that sometimes these twists are a mistake and I’d really like to see the series rectify this in a new season. 

So, let’s talk it out. And if you aren’t caught up on Season 13, I’ll only be getting into spoilers for about the first half of the season! 

The Twists On MasterChef Can Be A Huge Problem

MasterChef, like certain other reality shows that like to change the format often (here’s looking at you Survivor), is a mixed bag. Sometimes the show produces twists that I really enjoy. I for example, loved it when the show introduced the wall challenges in which a team of two cook on opposite sides of a tall obstacle wall and attempt  to produce the same dish. (Though even that challenge is divisive.) I did not love it during when an eliminated contestant was "reinstated" nor have I loved it when an entire team of two has gone home during the tag team challenge –which also happened during the wall challenge this season, sigh.  

As all this illustrates, the twists can be a bit of a mixed bag, and while I applaud the show for trying to keep things interesting for more than a decade, I wish sometimes the decision-making was a little more thoughtful and didn't feel like a twist for the sake of throwing in a twist. 

Let’s get back to that team of two going home during the tag team challenge, because I think it illustrates exactly how some of these random twists on MasterChef can be a huge problem. Back in Season 10, Michael Silverstein proved himself to be a formidable force in the kitchen. However, that was one of the seasons that Gordon Ramsay and co. ultimately decided that not just one person would be eliminated during the tag team season, but two. Typically whomever is immune tries to pair a weak player with a strong player hoping the lesser player will bring the stronger one down. So there's strategy involved.

In the case of Michael in Season 10, he was a frontrunner on the series very early on. That season, however, the twist was that Masterchef did the tag team challenge on the earlier side and chose to eliminate two contestants. Two contestants didn’t have to be eliminated, it was just a dumb decision the producers probably made because they thought it would make for good TV. Michael ended up coming in 15th place, a shocking result, after being unable to work well with Liz. 

It also is an example of how frequently good contestants end up going home early on this show. In fact, I'd argue that frequently the best contestant does not win the Fox competition series, which feels wild to me given there's no fan voting component and no one is getting kicked off an island by their peers. 

In the Michael example, when MasterChef signed him on for “Back To Win,” he was given the opportunity to compete exceedingly well, and while he didn’t win, he did make the Top 3, so he certainly went home early in that first season. I still feel he should have probably won Season 10, and I just think MasterChef sometimes thinks that so many twists keep the audience invested, when actually some of these twists just piss people off. 

The good news? This could lead to an opportunity moving forward.

I Just Complained About Twists, But Here’s What I’d Like To See A Future Season Do

There’s an argument to be had that ultimately if you are able to make it to the final three chefs on the series, you are given a chance to really showcase your talents and win on your own merits. First, however, you have to make it into the final three on the Fox series. Most of the time, several of the good chefs go home way early on the series and in challenges that just may not be in their wheelhouse. For example, Wayne almost went home during the first episode of Season 13 making risotto for State Fair food, but he was flukily saved by Kyle winning the immunity pin for his entire team. Wayne went on to have an incredible run, but without the immunity twist, he would have gone home literally first. 

I’m just saying: You may be a BBQ master, but cake can bring you down. You may be creative individually, but you may crack if you have to take a backseat to someone else’s ideas. You may be able to make a great plate for Aáron Sánchez, but feeding 101 diners may be your achilles heel. Good people go home early on MasterChef all the time.

It makes me wonder how many contestants got eliminated early, like before the Top 10, who might be strong contenders today? Maybe they’ve stepped up their game and learned some desserts. Maybe, like Michael Silverstein (who did already get a chance to come back) they simply made a mistake that cost them dearly.  

I think it would be really cool if the show handpicked some past contestants who were sent home too soon and gave them a second chance in the MasterChef kitchen. I know this is kind of what Back to Win was, but I’m talking about contestants who didn’t make it into the Top 10 who might have the chops to compete harder under different circumstances. Aáron, Joe and Gordon might even be able to have a say in picking the contestants and they could work in teams (sort of like the regional stuff this season) until further along in the competition when they could split out individually (also like the regional stuff this season). 

I just feel like there has to be a shortlist of people on the judges’ minds when it comes to what could have been with certain contestants, and I’d be interested to see a season of underdogs duke it out. You could even call it Second Chances. 

Look, MasterChef always has some element of chance given the immune contestants are encouraged to throw out challenges and some of the competitions are not necessarily in every single person’s wheelhouse, but you have to think there are myriad names out there who, under the right circumstances, could have ended up first or third or sixth instead of fourteenth. I’d like to see those individuals back on TV one more time… but boy oh boy, can you imagine going home first on a season of second chances? 

As the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes push on, TV networks are having to become creative when it comes to plotting out their programming for the coming months. The 2023 TV schedule is going to look a lot different come this autumn, especially since much of it's going to be populated by reality-based shows. While fans are sure to miss scripted series, one thing they can look forward to is more of famed celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay. That's because it's looking like Fox is going to highlight him considerably.

The network released its fall schedule for the 2023-24 broadcast season, which will consist of unscripted and animated series. Amid that, one of the main points of interest is that 56-year-old restaurateur will be coming back, and he's serving up a full platter of content for food show lovers. Both Kitchen Nightmares and Hell’s Kitchen will be airing this fall, and Next Level Chef is set to premiere during midseason 2024. Needless to say, Ramsay devotees are going to be eating good (figuratively) over the next few months.

Gordon Ramsay's domination on Fox begins on Monday, September 25 at 8 p.m. ET with Kitchen Nightmares. The series premiered on Fox in 2007 and ran for seven seasons, until Ramsay shut it down in 2014. The series saw the chef going to different failing restaurants and spending a week trying to turn them into successful businesses. Back in May, the network announced that the series would return, and the prospect of watching the star's further exploits is both exciting and a bit nerve-wracking.

Hell’s Kitchen will jump back into the fray this fall for Season 22 beginning on Thursday, September 28 at 8 p.m. ET. The iconic and eventful competition cooking show made its debut in 2005, and it's still going strong as you can see. the show sees two teams of chefs trying to compete for the job as head chef at a restaurant while working in the kitchen of a restaurant inside a TV studio. Eliminations are made each week until there's just one left standing. The upcoming season, which will be subtitled The American Dream, will focus on unique U.S.-centric stories, as contestants are once again pushed to their limits. 

The fall schedule certainly marks a continuation of Gordon Ramsay’s reign on Fox, which started with Hell’s Kitchen. Other current shows of Ramsay’s include MasterChef, MasterChef Junior, Next Level Chef, and Gordon Ramsay’s Food Stars. He also has a number of other shows -- some airing in the U.S. and additional ones across the pond. The chef is a busy man and, with this new lineup, it's clear that he's not slowing down anytime soon.

You won't want to miss it when the chef makes his Fox return beginning on September 25! For right now, be aware that both Hell’s Kitchen and Kitchen Nightmares are streaming for free on Tubi, so there will be time to catch up and prepare for the new seasons.

Ugh, God, I’m going to throw up writing this. 

Cooking shows are something I have written a ridiculous amount about in the past, and I am most likely going to continue writing about them because I love them. Cooking is a side-passion of mine that I’ve grown to love more as I’ve gotten older, and somehow, someway, I never get tired of it. 

The one person that is pretty consistent in many of the cooking shows that I watch happens to be Gordon Ramsay. I know, probably one of the most known chefs ever in existence, but that’s for good reason. He makes good content, from the crazy moments in Hell’s Kitchen to the brilliant Masterchef to some of his newer shows, such as Gordon Ramsay’s Food Stars. He doesn’t miss. 

One show of his that I watched at length during the COVID-19 pandemic, just when I was really starting to get into cooking, was Kitchen Nightmares. It originally ran for seven seasons before it was cancelled. But now the popular Ramsay show has been revived for more seasons – and in honor of this, I’m going to go over the worst nightmares that Gordon found during his time on the series – starting with one big obvious one. 

When Gordon Found Hundreds Of Cockroaches In The Basement Of Dillon's (Season 1, Episode 2)

I’m pretty sure the first time I saw this episode, I was very close to throwing up. It’s honestly almost hilarious how I can watch some of the scariest horror movies in existence or the goriest zombie films and not bat an eye, but throw some cockroaches into the mix and I am completely cooked.

In the first season of Kitchen Nightmares, Ramsay visited Dillon’s, a restaurant in New York City, and upon his normal inspection of the place, he discovered that there weren’t just one or two cockroaches in the basement of this eating establishment – no, there were hundreds. Plenty. 

Look, I’m from New York. I visited the city on a pretty weekly basis. I know the it's known for the fact that there are cockroaches, but this was too much. There were so many in that basement that some of them ended up in Ramsay’s hair. Absolutely disgusting and unacceptable. 

Seascape’s Moldy Pesto – Which Was Served To Gordon (Season 1, Episode 4)

At first, I didn’t believe this was real but the proof is in the pudding – or should I say pesto? 

For those who don’t know, there are three stages of Ramsay’s visit to these failing restaurants – the tasting, the inspection, and then the makeover. The first thing he always does is have a sit-down meal at these establishments to test the food. Most of the time, the food is underperforming – and sometimes, downright inedible. 

The next day came along and Ramsay did his inspection at Seascape, the restaurant he visited in New York, only to find that the pesto he had eaten the day before contained mold.

I’m not about to throw up; you are! How does that just slip by someone? Ramsay was pissed off – for good reason. 

When Gordon Discovered An Intense Amount Of Cross-Contamination In A Walk-In Freezer (Season 7, Episode 3)

One of the biggest no-nos you could possibly have when cooking is cross-contamination. If you’re using the same cutting board for certain things, wash it all the time so the germs of, say, raw meat don’t cross with vegetables or other ingredients. Or, better yet, just keep everything separate until you're cooking it. 

This is a staple that you can see in any cooking show, the best baking shows, or any decent eatery anywhere because it's a common health precaution. When Ramsay visited Old Neighborhood in Season 7, however, it was a clear sign that the people of this restaurant did not care. 

He walked into a walk-in freezer that was a) filled with food that was cross-contaminated, including desserts on top of raw meat and b) completely spoiled, so much so that it smelt horrendous. If anything, that restaurant should have been shut down then and there, and may have been if not for Ramsay coming in to help them, because that, my friends, is a true kitchen nightmare. 

When Maggots Infested The Food (Season 1, Episode 10)

Let me tell you that The Secret Garden of Season 1, Episode 10 would give zombie movies a run for their money with the amount of maggots that were discovered in their food. 

In this episode, Ramsay visited the restaurant to continue his inspection. In the walk-in, he discovered there were so many pieces of old food that were covered in mold that even the freezer itself smelled like it. And to top it all off, he found a bunch of food with maggots in it – and then proceeded to throw up. 

I don’t know how rotted something has to be or for what length of time for maggots to find a way into it, but here we are. 

The Gross Sushi Pizza That Gordon Could Not Keep Down (Season 2, Episode 12)

So, to be fair, a sushi pizza is something that is actually a legit food item that you can find at certain places. But, it’s the way that Sushi-Ko prepared it that has to make this list, because it’s absolutely disgusting. 

Ramsay visits this failing restaurant, and is served a sushi pizza – something that has raw fish and cheese on it, in order to make it an actual pizza. Obviously, cheese and sushi don't go together at all and it ended up just being a disgusting, unappetizing mess. 

There were so many other reasons why that restaurant would make this list, specifically for how they handled their food, but that dish is the absolute biggest offender. 

All Of Amy’s Baking Company (Season 6, Episode 16)

I mean, we have to include this here. 

While the food itself wasn’t the biggest nightmare of Amy’s Baking Company – and, in fact, the desserts weren’t half bad – it was the people who ran it that made it an absolute horror show, and it was one of the first ever times Ramsay walked out on someone because they refused his help. 

The owners yelled at customers if they didn’t like the food, tried to impersonate food critics online and patrons in order to boost up their reviews, kept the tips from the servers, and pretty much did everything wrong that you could think of when running a restaurant. This episode became so popular that Ramsay ended up revisiting the place years later.

To be honest, I can’t wait for more episodes of Kitchen Nightmares, because I would love nothing more than to see Ramsay help other failing eateries – but a part of me is also expecting to see more nightmarish stuff such as this. Only time will tell what the new seasons of the show will bring.

If you know me, you know that I love to cook. Anyone who has met me in the last few years could catch me at any point watching some of the best cooking shows or the best cooking YouTube channels – heck, maybe even some of the best baking shows, because I just love to cook so much. It’s become almost therapeutic for me. If you love to cook, usually that means you love a good cooking competition.

Enter Gordon Ramsay and literally every single one of his cooking competition shows. Watching all of this shows has sort of become a pastime for me, just because I genuinely enjoy cooking and I’ve learned so much from them, but if we’re being honest, his latest show, Next Level Chef, has become one of my favorites. If you’re wondering if you should give the show a chance, here are five reasons why it's his best show in years. 

Gordon Is Still A Judge – But I Like His Co-Judges More Than The Ones On His Other Shows 

Obviously with any Ramsay cooking show, he’s always going to be a judge. It wouldn’t quite be one of his competitions if he wasn’t critiquing food in some way, because that’s just who he is – and people praise him for it. I’m pretty sure I’d give anything in my life to have him look at my beef Wellington. 

If we’re being honest, however, in a lot of his other cooking competitions, I tend to not really remember who the other judges are. It’s not that I don’t care, but it’s that they don’t leave the lasting impression that the judges on Next Level Chef leave. On Hell’s Kitchen, Ramsay is usually the only one who judges the food – aside from a few guest judges for certain challenges – and in his other shows, the co-judges just don’t do it for me. 

However, I really like the dynamic between Ramsay, Nyesha Arrington, and Richard Blais. I feel like they are all exceptionally skilled in the art of cooking, but are different enough where they offer valid advice and critiques on different areas of the food, which is something I can really appreciate. 

The Concept Is So Original 

It’s really hard to create a new kind of cooking show these days. Ramsay really revolutionized the genre with Hell’s Kitchen, and there have been plenty of other great shows such as Iron Chef, Nailed It! and so many more that have become huge hits. It’s not difficult to actually create a cooking competition – but what is hard is to create something that is new and original. 

I think that’s why I really like The Big Brunch a lot, hosted by Schitt’s Creek cast member Dan Levy, because it feels like such an original concept. This is also why I really like Next Level Chef – because the concept itself is very interesting. 

If you don’t know what this competition is about, it takes place in a specific building that is fitted with three floors. Each floor is designated to act as a specific kind of kitchen – the top floor is filled with the absolute best appliances/ingredients that money can buy, the middle floor is about average, and the bottom floor is the worst kitchen, filled with meh appliances, sometimes even broken. 

An elevator moves through the three floors, from the first to the last, giving contestants a chance to grab whatever they can (or whatever is left at the bottom), to make the best meal possible during the timespan. Sometimes they rise to the challenge. Other times they don’t, and that’s the fun of it. 

It’s always so cool to see what chefs can do on the bottom floor and if they can truly make something that is knock-out vs. someone in the top kitchen who had the chance at the best ingredients and utterly fumbled the bag. It’s such a cool concept.

The Chefs That Are Pulled In Aren’t Just Professionals In The Industry 

Something that I’ve noticed with a lot of cooking competition shows is that in many of them, it’s usually just professionals that are pulled from the industry to compete, whether they have their own bakery or restaurant, or anything else. I mean, even the most recent Hell’s Kitchen winner for 2023, Alex Belew, was a restaurant owner before he had to shut it down due to COVID. 

That isn’t necessarily a bad thing – because with a lot of shows like that, most of the time the prize is a whole-ass restaurant that needs to be properly managed – but it’s always nice to see people like me who just have a genuine passion for cooking. That’s what Next Level Chef brings to the table. 

I think it’s why I like another one of Ramsay’s shows so much, Masterchef, because I feel like there are a lot more home cooks on that show, and this one is no different. It has different types of chefs from all over, from social media influencers to retired football players. The competitors are so unique and I love to watch them.

I Like That The Mentors Help The Chefs Through The Cooking Process

Obviously this is a cooking competition, so everyone is up against each other and no one can really help anyone because there’s a huge prize on the line. The whole point isn’t just to win, though – it’s to hone your cooking skills and improve more and more. With every team, the mentors (Ramsay, Arrington, and Blais) regularly offer their advice.

Even just during the premiere episode of Season 2, there was a moment where Arrington gave a chef advice to use a certain kind of glaze with a specific type of fish (black cod, delicious). Or in the past, Ramsay has given advice on how to properly cook certain kinds of protein when a chef is given one that they have no idea how to work with. 

From the advice they give, it’s then up to the chef to determine what to do, but I have to admit — I haven’t seen that many cooking competition shows where the judge is regularly helping the contestants do better, which is something that I really like. 

It Doesn’t Feel Too Dramatic

Last but not least, we need to talk about dramatics – because Next Level Chef feels like it doesn’t have any. 

Don’t get me wrong, I love a good drama. It’s why I watched Hell’s Kitchen and all of its crazy moments, or why I’ll check out the most cringey dating shows on Netflix – because everyone loves some drama now and again. Sometimes, however, I just need a break, and the competition here is that break in more ways than one. 

It’s still shot like a typical cooking competition series – with fast cuts, intense music, and all of what you would expect – but it doesn’t feel like there are certain moments that were crafted specifically for television. Everything feels organic as to what could happen in a kitchen, from someone cutting their hand by accident and something catching fire to everything else. 

There’s never any serious fights. Never any crazy yelling. Never any drama that’s seriously bad. It’s just good television, which is something that’s so rare these days. 

While there are plenty of cooking competition shows out there, I really do believe that Next Level Chef is one of those shows that deserves more praise than its gotten and Ramsay’s best idea in years, and I hope that maybe somehow, you’ll end up liking it just as much as me.

It’s Super Bowl Sunday, which means it’s typically tough sledding for anything on television that’s not related to the NFL. That being said, one huge beneficiary of the overwhelming popularity of The Big Game is whatever comes on after The Super Bowl, and this year, the lucky winner is Gordon Ramsay’s Next Level Chef. It’ll have its Season 2 premiere immediately afterwards, and it sounds like it’ll feature some big changes from what we saw last time around.

The basic concept behind Next Level Chef sounds like it will remain unchanged, which is good considering it’s a neat little format. In short, teams of chefs compete against each other in various challenges, but each group is assigned a different level kitchen. The top kitchen contains premium ingredients and all the nicest appliances that you might find in a world class restaurant set-up. The middle kitchen contains mid-level ingredients and equipment you might find at a local restaurant. The bottom kitchen contains lesser options and the sort of set-up your average person might be dealing with at home.

It sounds like all of that is staying, but Gordon Ramsay’s creative partner Lisa Edwards spoke to Variety about the debut, and she teased some other changes that could prove very important. It sounds like where the chefs end up cooking will be more related to their own performance, and there will also be the concept of an immunity pin worked in. Here’s a portion of her quote…

I’ll wait to see how these individual changes play out to have a fuller opinion on whether they’re appropriate, but I’m definitely supportive of the show making some tweaks. There were some judging issues I got a little frustrated with in Season 1, and it was clear the show was still finding its way. That’s normal for the debut season of any reality competition show, and it was especially true for this one that was filmed during the pandemic in a tent in Las Vegas.

Of course, the one issue with airing immediately after The Super Bowl is it’s notoriously hard to predict when exactly the end of the game might be. Even normal NFL games have some variance to their runtimes. Throw in a halftime show led by Rihanna with all kinds of moving pieces (here’s a guide on how to watch) , more high profile commercials, a post game trophy presentation and more, and there’s no telling when Next Level Chef might start. So, I’d suggest adding some time at the end of that DVR recording. 

The Super Bowl starts at 6:30 ET on FOX and is scheduled to run until 10 ET. Next Level Chef is earmarked for 10:30 ET, but we’ll have to wait and see how accurate that is. 

I don’t know if you know this, but I’m pretty obsessed with cooking competition shows. 

Straight up, I could watch them for hours on end, as they not only inspire me to keep learning how to cook incredible dishes, but entertain the heck out of me with some funny moments. One particular person I’ve been obsessed with is Gordon Ramsay and his Fox cooking shows- specifically Hell’s Kitchen. 

For 20 seasons, this cooking competition show has brought the heat to the kitchen with incredible moments, spicy feuds, and so much more. From the beginning of the show to the latest seasons, here are some of the biggest and craziest moments on Hell’s Kitchen so far. 

“Where’s The Lamb Sauce?!” (Season 2, Episode 1)

Arguably, this is one of the most memed moments of the show, and for good reason. During Season 2, Episode 1 of Hell’s Kitchen, the contestants were trying to serve lamb without a particular sauce that is supposed to pair with it. After a series of mistakes, Gordon understandably explodes and asks his chefs “Where’s the lamb sauce?!” over and over again, upset at their constant errors. 

It’s one of the funniest moments of the show, hands down, but no matter what, nothing can quite beat the delivery that Gordon gave it. 

When Gordon Almost Got Into A Fight With A Giovanni (Season 5, Episode 10) 

Giovanni on Season 5 of Hell’s Kitchen had some talent, but in the end, what got him eliminated was when he talked back to Gordon, which is a big no-no. In Episode 10, Giovanni was being yelled at by Gordon during dinner service due to poor performance, calling Giovanni a “dickface” and telling him to clean up his act. 

Giovanni, however, fought back, and this enraged Gordon, so much so that he got up in the man’s face and threatened to eliminate him right then and there. This ended up being Giovanni’s last dinner service on Hell’s Kitchen, so it looks like there was some truth to that threat. 

Kimmie And Robyn’s Constant Feud (Season 10)

Season 10, is one of my favorite seasons of Hell’s Kitchen, specifically because of this feud. Robyn and Kimmie were two contestants on the season and from the beginning, these two were constantly butting heads, whether by trying to get the other eliminated, throwing the other under the bus, or by other means. 

It’s hard to pick out a singular moment with how often they were going at each other, but they were certainly not the best of friends. 

When Gordon Punched Salmon (Season 16, Episode 4)

Because sometimes, you need to take out your aggression in some type of way. 

Season 16 of Hell’s Kitchen started off easily, but Episode 4 is where things really started to heat up in the kitchen. When Gordon is brought a less than adequate salmon from his chefs after several failed attempts, he slams his hand directly down onto it, smashing the salmon into pieces. 

As someone who has cooked salmon many times, with recipes from many different kinds of cooking shows, it pained me to see such a beautiful fish go to waste, but that’s what happens when you upset the master chef himself. And, while we’re singling out this particular moment, Gordon has smashed many salmon in the past out of anger. 

When Gordon Made Out With A “Contestant” (Season 7, Episode 1)

For those who don’t know, Gordon Ramsay is a married man and has been for over two decades now, so when this happened, it was quite the surprise at first. In Season 7 of Hell’s Kitchen, during the first episode, Gordon takes a particular interest in a woman with dark hair, complimenting her several times, hugging her, kissing her on the cheeks and then finally, kissing her full on the mouth. 

This isn’t that surprising later on, because it’s revealed moments later that it was actually his long-time wife, Tana Ramsay, in disguise, so everything is good in loveland here!

And When Gordon Called Siobhan A Donkey (Season 7, Episode 8)

Gordon has had some interesting insults throughout his time on Hell’s Kitchen, but for some reason this one always stands out to me the most. During Season 7, Episode 8 of Hell’s Kitchen, Gordon is snapping at a contestant, Siobhan, for her less than stellar scallops that she produced, insulting her and calling her a “donkey.”

It’s so funny always to hear him call someone that, but this moment was one of the first times we ever see him use this insult and the way he says it is always so freaking hilarious.

When Joseph Tinnelly Confronted Gordon During His Elimination (Season 6, Episode 2)

Look, I’m always a fan of fights, whether in movies or TV, but I was genuinely nervous for Gordon during Season 6, Episode 2 of Hell’s Kitchen. During elimination, when Gordon was confronting Joseph Tinnelly for his poor cooking skills and “shitty” attitude, Joseph decides to take that personally and storm right up to Ramsay, insulting him and trying to provoke him into a fight after being eliminated from the show.  

Gordon, being the professional he is, doesn’t start a fist-fight with Joseph, who is taken away by security, all while Gordon curses him out with a string of insults that would make a sailor blush, as he walks away. It was such a tense moment. 

When Gordon Insulted A Customer And Says He Looks Like “A Quail” (Season 7)

The biggest rule of going to Hell’s Kitchen is not to expect the food to come out soon, or for the food to be perfect at first, because things just happen. When something bad occurs, just politely tell someone to bring back the food and it’ll come back right. 

But, a customer in Season 7 decided to confront Gordon personally, getting up from his table and walking to the kitchen, saying that the meat he received was “low-grade dog food” at best. Obviously, Gordon was quite insulted by this and told the customer to “fuck off” before saying that he looked like “a quail.”

I didn’t know someone could be called a quail as an insult, but coming from Gordon, it most certainly is. 

When Jeff Insulted Gordon and Stormed Off (Season 1, Episode 3)

One of the most infamous moments in Hell’s Kitchen history happened during its third episode ever of Season 1. Jeff, one of the contestants, got fed up with Gordon insulting him for his poor cooking and called Ramsay an “asshole.” After that, he took off his jacket, and stormed off the set. 

And, not just that; he quit the whole competition. It was the last we ever saw of him. But you know what they say - if you can’t take the heat in the kitchen, better get out. 

When Gordon Told Every Black Jacket To Get Out Of The Kitchen (Season 4, Episode 10)

For those who don’t watch Hell’s Kitchen, the show starts off with two teams, red and blue, and by the end, is combined into one when the black jacket team is selected, with the finalists for the season who'll compete for the grand prize. These are supposed to be the cream of the crop, best of the best chefs. 

Which is why this moment is so huge.

In Season 4, Episode 10, when all the black jackets were selected, everyone on their first dinner service kept making mistake after mistake, and soon, Gordon ordered everyone out of the kitchen and that the service be shut down. Considering that, at this point, these are supposed to be the best competitors left, this was a huge miss and showed that sometimes, people don’t work well together. I’ll never forgot Gordon’s upset face.

Hell’s Kitchen will hopefully be returning soon - maybe even popping up on the 2022 TV premiere schedule - since it has been renewed for a few more seasons. Hopefully, we’ll be able to add even crazier moments for us to talk about before long.  

Gordon Ramsay has become a Fox network super star. He’s been creating shows with the network for almost two decades and the partnership seems stronger than ever. His first Fox TV show, Hell’s Kitchen, has already aired 20 seasons, and been renewed through Season 22. Fox and Gordon Ramsay have been a successful partnership that hopefully doesn’t end anytime soon.

In 2022, his latest Fox TV series, Next Level Chef, premiered, and I loved it, flaws and all. It just basically confirmed what I’ve always known: I’m obsessed with Gordon Ramsay TV shows. If Gordon Ramsay’s name is attached to a TV show, I’ll be streaming it on Tubi or Hulu once it's available. There is a reason why Gordon Ramsay and Fox continue to make great TV shows and I keep watching them, they're great entertainment. Here’s why I think these shows are must-watch television and why I can’t stop watching them. 

You Never Know What Gordon Ramsay You're Going To Get

Gordon Ramsay is most famously known for yelling at people, throwing stuff, and being a generally terrifying boss. He got this reputation because of his Hell’s Kitchen persona. However, if you watch enough Gordon Ramsay TV shows, then you know Yelling Gordon isn’t the only side he shows on television. He’s often kind and patient with the contestants on MasterChef Junior. He’s also more of a mentor on MasterChef than he is an angry boss. Even on Hell’s Kitchen, he’s calmed down a lot, and he’s pretty nice to the contestants that he sees working hard and learning.

There being so many Gordon Ramsay TV shows means that fans get to see multiple sides of him across all the shows. It’s also just fun as a viewer to not know which Gordon will come out in any given episode. He could be fun and goofy one minute, and then screaming at someone to get out of his kitchen the next moment. 

It Feels Like There Is Always A New Show Or Season Available To Watch

After Next Level Chef wrapped up its first season, I didn’t get a chance to miss it, because MasterChef Junior premiered its new season not so long after the other show ended. This is a pattern with Gordon Ramsay's TV shows. Once one ends, another one will soon premiere. You rarely get a chance to miss the man.

Additionally, Hulu and Tubi both have plenty of his Fox TV series to stream, so if you have missed one or skipped a few seasons, you can still find plenty to binge on during the rare occasions when Fox isn’t airing a new season of a Gordon Ramsay cooking show.

The Stories Of The Contestants Or Featured Restaurants

I’ll watch any show with Gordon Ramsay’s name attached, but mainly because I can rely on him to produce interesting and entertaining cooking competition shows. In general, I love cooking TV shows, but they are not all created equal. One thing many Gordon Ramsay cooking shows do very well is making you care about the contestants. For weeks, we watch as these contestants improve, learn, and use their hearts and minds to produce standout dishes.

You genuinely care when the single mom from Nebraska makes it to the end and takes home the title. You tear up when a blind chef beats the odds and wins the MasterChef title. You cheer so loud when one of your favorite contestants wins Hell’s Kitchen. These TV shows take you on a journey with these contestants, which makes the end results so much more meaningful or infuriating — depending on how it all ends. With so many seasons of Gordon Ramsay shows, you also get to take these emotional and frustrating journeys a lot. 

There Is A Gordon Ramsay Fox TV Show For Every Type Of Cooking Show Fan

The thing that makes Gordon Ramsay’s Fox TV shows easy to continuously watch is that they’re not just repeats of each other. Hell’s Kitchen is about rookie chefs trying to prove they have what it takes to manage major restaurants, MasterChef and its spin-offs are about homecooks trying to prove they have the same skills as professional chefs, Gordon Ramsay’s 24 Hours to Hell and Back chronicles Gordon revamping a failing restaurant in 24-hours, and the list goes on and on.

These shows have some overlap, but they’re varied enough to appeal to cooking competition fans, restaurant makeover show fans, and inspiring cooking show fans. The only cooking show market that Fox and the chef haven’t cornered is instructional cooking shows--though he does post plenty of instructional videos on his official Youtube page. Maybe we’ll get a "how to cook with Gordon Ramsay" TV show on Fox one day. 

Gordon Ramsay's Chemistry With The Other Judges

Gordon Ramsay has had guest judges and series regular judges who are world renowned chefs and bakers. A few of the judges his fans have seen appear with him on these TV shows are Nyesha Arrington, Richard Blais, Christina Tosi, Graham Elliot, Joe Bastianich, and Aarón Sánchez. Ramsay brings a different dynamic with whichever chefs he works with on his TV shows.

He could be competitive, friendly, funny, or whatever mood matches the show’s tone. If you get bored with seeing Gordon all the time, judges like Arrington and Blais bring a freshness that gives a show like Next Level Chef some of the uniqueness that’s needed to keep these Gordon Ramsay shows from becoming bland.

The Food We Get To See Made

Gordon Ramsay’s daughter may not be a huge fan of his cooking, but I would love to try it. I would love to try many of the dishes featured on MasterChef and other Gordon Ramsay cooking shows because they often look and sound delicious. Luckily for fans of shows like MasterChef, there is often a cookbook to learn how to make some of the dishes, especially the ones made by the each season's winners.

These shows do a great job of making me, and others, want to try these dishes and hunt out Gordon Ramsay's restaurants. The TV shows definitely make sure that the TV dishes appeal to all our five senses even without having the meals in the room with us as we watch.

I am someone who will probably watch Gordon Ramsay TV shows until he retires from American TV. Hopefully, this never happens, because I can’t wait for Hell’s Kitchen Season 43 and MasterChef Season 75. 

I like Next Level Chef. I went into it assuming it was going to be a little too weird and gimmicky, but it’s actually a lot of fun. Many of the chefs are relatable and easy to root for. The multi-level format with tiered ingredients and cooking utensils tests the contestants in compelling ways, and each of the mentors brings a unique and engaging energy. I’ve set the season pass on the DVR and am on board, but even so, it’s pretty clear the reality competition needs to make a key change to the first round of judging.

In short, the show is a team-based reality competition. Popular chefs Gordon Ramsay, Richard Blais and Nyesha Arrington each picked a team of five chefs. Each week, those five chefs are randomly assigned a level, which corresponds to one of three kitchens. The top kitchen has the nicest equipment and ingredients; the bottom has the worst of everything. Everyone cooks, a winning dish is chosen, and the two teams who didn’t put up the winning dish have to select someone to cook for their life in a sudden death competition. It’s oddly complicated on the surface, but it actually all makes complete sense– except for how the first judging round is scored.

After all of the dishes in the initial round are put up to be judged, the mentors working with each team describe the dish, and all three of them try it and give their initial thoughts. After all the dishes are tried, the judges go into the other room and talk out which dish they think is the best one. It sounds good in theory, except all three of the judges are clearly very, very biased for their own team members. 

They each know who put up which dish, and if someone on their team has a possible contender, they advocate for that dish pretty nakedly. I think the producers suspected this would give the mentors a fun chance to go back and forth and fight for their team members. That does happen, but it also creates a pretty unhealthy and imbalanced conversation in which it feels like no one is being completely honest. There’s also a bit of a weird power dynamic in that Ramsay is clearly the star of the show (because he's Gordon freakin' Ramsay) with Blais and Arrington along as key supports. They’re great and Blais especially has extensive TV experience, but there’s still an imbalance that occasionally comes across in body language. It’s as if Ramsay’s voice is just a little bit louder and carries slightly more weight.

Now, the second round of judging is quite good. The two contestants who are put up for sudden death elimination cook their dishes apart from their own mentors. The mentors then come in and critique the dishes blind. That allows for a much more honest conversation and puts the mentors in a position to accidentally send their own chefs home. They vote, and if there’s a tie, the third mentor who watched the contestants cook and has no rooting interest decides who should go home. That’s good television and should not be changed.

But something needs to be done about that first judging round. All the best reality competitions evolve. They add new wrinkles. They change the rules to fix problematic behavior. They guess and check and clarify until they get to a format that maximizes the premise. The premise of Next Level Chef is quite good, even if it’s a bit complicated to explain. I like it and know a lot of other people who do too. But the show needs to recognize what doesn’t work and adjust for next season.

Some may argue the best solution would be for the first round to be judged blindly also, but I like having the mentors in the kitchen with the chefs. It’s nice to see Ramsay, Blais and Arrington giving actual instructions and helping the contestants learn new skills and improve. I don’t want to lose that hands on instruction. 

Instead, I think the show should make Gordon Ramsay a super-mentor without his own team. They can bring in a third mentor to take over his spot (Graham Elliot? Antonia Lofaso? Brooke Williamson? Edward Lee? Wylie Dufresne?). Once three mentors are in place, Ramsay can wander the three levels as an unattached observer, adding in little comments and hassling the mentors. Each contestant and mentor would then present their dishes to Ramsay after the first round. He would praise them and/ or tear them apart without any emotional attachment (which would be great TV) and then he can once again, be the tie-breaking vote in the final round.

Long story short, I like Next Level Chef. I think the format works, and I’ve enjoyed watching every episode. But something needs to be done about the first round of judging, and whether the show takes my super mentor suggestion or not, change is needed. Hopefully when I sit down to watch next season, it’ll be the same basic format and tone I love with a tweaked set of rules that make a little more sense.

Famed chef and traveler Gordon Ramsay is back on his worldwide quest for culinary excellence with Season 3 of National Geographic's Gordon Ramsay: Uncharted. Although he was dealing with everything from bug issues to an angry hippo during Season 2, Season 3 has had plenty of challenges as he crafts his expert recipes. His journey to Puerto Rico will not only result in a red snapper ceviche recipe (included below) that may inspire plenty of people to start cooking along with him, but – as seen above in the clip from the next episode of Uncharted – also send him on a very hands-on hunt for shrimp.

The Gordon Ramsay: Uncharted episode that airs on June 27 will see Gordon Ramsay journey to Puerto Rico, and he won't exactly be dropping by a local supermarket to pick up all the seafood he needs for his big cook. In fact, the episode clip shows that he has to cross what looks like a fairly treacherous bridge that would undoubtedly even give Indiana Jones pause before he can get to the sweet spot in a river to find some shrimp.

It's a sign of how intimidating the bridge was that even Gordon Ramsay was nervous about it, despite all the challenges he's already faced! Still, what's a "death trap" at the river when it comes to finding fresh seafood when you're Gordon Ramsay?

Now, if you're like me, you're perfectly happy to watch from home as Gordon Ramsay faces the challenges of gathering his ingredients from the environments he's visiting, even if it does mean not getting to see, smell, or – most importantly – taste the dishes that he creates for the big cook at the end of every episode, and the Puerto Rico episode on Sunday will include more than just the shrimp.

As the recipe notes, this recipe for red snapper ceviche can showcase the kind of seafood found from the more than 270 miles of coastline in Puerto Rico, even if those of us in our kitchens won't be getting out ingredients fresh from the source like Gordon Ramsay for Uncharted. Whether or not viewers will be ready for the "wow factor" of a hollowed out orange or lime remains to be seen, but the list of ingredients alone leaves me ready to start snacking on the mango!

Cooking shows have been around since the dawn of television, and while streaming on popular websites like Netflix or Hulu is nice, there are plenty of other options out there that don’t require any subscription – specifically YouTube. The popular video platform has been giving chefs, new and seasoned alike, the ability to share their skills with the world, revealing recipes that the beginner or expert chef could pick up within seconds.

From baking, frying, or sautéing, these are some of the best channels to look to if food is in your future.

Binging With Babish

Now, this was one of the first online cooking shows I ever watched, and for good reason. Binging with Babish is a great channel to check out for beginners, especially because the man himself has a whole entire series dedicated to learning the beginner tips of cooking, called Basics with Babish. If someone is looking to just start out cooking, this is one of the best places to go, as he’ll take you through so many different recipes, from learning how to make bread to making short ribs.

Another key aspect of his channel is that Babish (his real name is Andrew Rea) recreates key menu items from movies, TV shows, and video games. For example, he’s done the ratatouille from Ratatouille, Kronk’s spinach puffs from Emperor’s New Groove, and many more. And along the way, he teaches you how to do it yourself.

Joshua Weissman

This man is a legend of cooking, due to the skills that he has. Joshua Weissman is a master at making everyone’s favorite comfort food – but making it better. Think of the McDonald’s McFlurry, or Pizza Hut pizza – Joshua aims to make those popular items that the public loves so much, but with more taste, spice, flavor, or all of the above, with step-by-step instructions. For the junk food lover who wants to start saving money on take-out, this is your guy.

Joshua also does some simple episodes too for beginner cooks and uses ways to somehow make meals cheaper. In one of his recent videos, he was able to make sushi for under two dollars a roll – something that’s pretty astounding compared to how expensive sushi usually is.

Laura In The Kitchen

Back when I was a wee little girl who was just learning how to cook, Laura in the Kitchen was my girl to go to. Having been on YouTube for years, Laura shows viewers how to cook some of the most basic recipes out there, like spaghetti or chicken parmesan, with simple recipes to follow.

But on other occasions, she will step out of her comfort zone and make something like Japanese cabbage fritters -- something totally different that's still just as delicious. Laura also has some baking videos on her channel as well if you wanted to check those out, from cinnamon rolls to pies, with some of the easiest recipes to adapt - a way to replace those cinnamon rolls you might have been missing from Disney. She's a jack of all trades when it comes to cooking.

Rosanna Pansino

I feel like if you’re into anything related to the kitchen and streaming content, you know about Rosanna Pansino. She is one of the most subscribed cooking channels on YouTube, with 12.7 million subscribers, and has been steadily going strong for years now.

Rosanna has been recreating some of the pastries from our dreams in her desserts and creations, as well as some other options. Rosanna has made viral videos of Frozen cakes, My Little Pony cupcakes, and plenty more on her segment called Nerdy Nummies, even putting out a cookbook to show off her work and for people to use. Not only that, but she’s done other videos as well related to food, such as cooking cakes in crockpots, because why not?

Jamie Oliver

While he is famous for television appearances and his restaurants, Jamie Oliver has a YouTube channel that really helps beginner cooks learn the absolute minimum for cooking. From there, those skills can be transferred into other recipes on his channel that require a little bit more skill but are worth the practice to make.

He teaches viewers how to make a variety of meals, from breakfast to lunch to dinner, and even has plenty of Vegan options for people to choose from as well. I remember the first time I ever tried to learn how to poach an egg, it was from Jamie Oliver, and now I’m learning to make Eggs Benedict at least once a week. He explains things simply, and that’s what you need when you’re first starting to cook.

Tasty

Tasty is actually a subsidiary of Buzzfeed that became so popular it ended up getting its own channel. Tasty has a variety of videos to choose from. Some are simple recipe videos that anyone can follow, most of which can be found in their cookbooks out in the world as well.

Other videos feature the chefs of Tasty making things like three different kinds of chicken wings that take a different amount of time, to trying to make candy fancy. I sort of think of Tasty as my go-to for food-fun videos. While they do teach you how to cook all the time, from healthy meals to cheat-day treats, it is entertaining to see someone try and make a huge chicken nugget.

Gordon Ramsay

The man, the myth, the legend – yes, the Gordon Ramsay has a YouTube channel and it is as popular as you would expect it to be, with nearly 17 million subscribers. But thankfully there will be no yelling at you in these videos as you learn how to cook from the famous chef.

But wait, you must be thinking that because it’s Gordon Ramsay, the recipes have to be fancy? Nope. In fact, he’s made all simple kinds of recipes, from learning how to make the perfect grilled cheese, to trying to learn how to properly cook a steak. Gordon is really there to help you and give you the skills to adapt, despite his reputation. That way, you can take on those heavy-set recipes in the future. Trust me, there’s a reason why his food is so popular. The guy knows what he's doing.

Epicurious

I adore Epicurious, specifically for the videos that feature three different levels of chefs, and a food scientist at the end to analyze each recipe. They all have completely separate recipes for the same type of food, and it’s so interesting to see how different-leveled chefs prepare the meal. Some examples of what they have done are brownies, lasagna, burgers, and more.

What makes these videos even better is that they show you directly how to make what they are making. So whether you want to stick to the level one chef, or go all the way up to level three if you’re feeling ambitious, you’re able to. They really give you free rein over what you want to do. Just be careful with some of those level three recipes – you might need to get some fresh cilantro for that sort of stuff.

You read that headline right. Gordon Ramsay, king of the kitchen, chief of the stars, righter of cooking wrongs, falls short of his wife’s skills. Ramsay has made an amazing career out of being a hard-ass in the kitchen, creating and leading a number of shows such as Hell’s Kitchen, Kitchen Nightmares, Masterchef, and a number of spinoffs. An impressive resume hasn’t stopped his oldest daughter, Matilda Ramsay, from proclaiming a preference to her mother’s cooking, though.

Listen, Gordon Ramsay is kitchen GOALS. How else could he make a living degrading and screaming at would-be chefs? He is probably the only person on Earth who can speak to another human the way he does and not be considered a complete jerk, and that’s because people all over the world beg him to do it.

He’s not all bark, though. Ever since the spinoff of Masterchef, Masterchef Junior aired we have come to know a much softer side of the TV personality. It became very clear that he reserved his harsh character traits for adults who, in his opinion, should know better and transformed into a regular teddy bear when interacting with children. It’s this sugar and spice mix making up Gordon Ramsay that has helped transform him into an endearing household name.

Fans of the chief are no stranger to his own children, either. Longtime fans have even seen his children grow up in his own personal kitchen. Gordon Ramsay’s social media is a collage of his professional and personal life: teasers for upcoming and current projects, latest kitchen creations, and posts of his children are all on rotation.

With Gordon Ramsay’s talent for teaching the art of cooking and his family values, there is no denying his kids must be proficient in the kitchen themselves. In fact, Matilda Ramsay has her cooking aspirations and has appeared on her own and with her father on numerous occasions to advance her own career.

How far does the Ramsay family’s talent in the kitchen go? If we are to give credence to Matilda’s claims, we know there is at least one more Master Chef in the family: Mama Ramsay. Although not as well known as her husband, Tana Ramsay has authored a number of cook books and has appeared as a cooking professional on a number of programs.

All we know for sure is that the Ramsay house is the place to be for breakfast, lunch, dinner, holidays, always, and forever no matter who is cooking.

Ben Watkins, known for competing on MasterChef Junior under Gordon Ramsay, has tragically passed away after an 18-month battle with cancer. The young man was diagnosed with a soft-tissue tumor at the age of 13 and had been putting up a fierce battle with cancer. Watkins was only 14 at the time of his passing.

Ben Watkins' death was confirmed in a statement by his maternal grandmother and uncle. The statement (via Facebook) celebrated the young man's legacy and highlighted his strength, love and courage. The family also stressed how he never complained, even in the midst of tough circumstances:

According to TMZ, Ben Watkins was only 1 of 6 people in the world to be diagnosed with the rare illness known as Angiomatoid Fibrous Histiocytoma. Earlier this year, Ramsay and his fellow competitors produced a video in which they wished him well. You can check out the sweet video for yourself down below:

In the wake of his passing, Gordon Ramsay also released a statement on Twitter. In the sweet post, he praised Watkins’ skills as a cook and his strength as a person:

Ben Watkins originally competed on the sixth season of MasterChef Junior, alongside a plethora of other young, aspiring chefs. He was ultimately eliminated early in the season, but he still managed to become a fan favorite. This wasn’t simply due to his cooking skills but also because of his brave and tragic story.

In 2017, both of Watkins’ parents were found dead in what was ruled a murder-suicide. According to The Chicago Tribune, Ben’s father shot his mother before ultimately killing himself. This all occurred shortly after Watkins wrapped on his season of MasterChef Junior.

The young Watkins became even more of an inspiration following his cancer diagnosis, especially through his consistently upbeat attitude. He dreamed of opening his own restaurant and bakery, just as his late father, who ran Big Ben’s Bodacious Barbecue & Deli, which was named in his son’s honor. Ben also worked at the restaurant as a cook and front counter employee.

Ben Watkins may not have been on this Earth long, but he managed to make the most of the time he had by living life to its fullest, and his legacy will not be forgotten.

Spoilers ahead for the Season 2 premiere of Gordon Ramsay: Uncharted.

Gordon Ramsay: Uncharted has returned to National Geographic for a second season of famed chef Gordon Ramsay hitting the road and going off the grid in pursuit of new ingredients, new dishes, and new experiences. Ramsay can wind up in some pretty wild situations when he goes off the grid, and his journey to Tasmania for the Season 2 premiere of Uncharted saw him helping to make whiskey with a very unique source of fuel: sheep poop.

Yes, the chef renowned for shows like Hell’s Kitchen and Kitchen Nightmares not only drank the sheep poop-fueled whiskey, but got his hands dirty to help distiller Peter Bignell make the whiskey at the Belgrove Distillery in Tasmania. Gordon Ramsay: Uncharted showrunner Jon Kroll spoke with CinemaBlend about Season 2, and he shared the story behind the sheep-fueled whiskey:

Believe it or not, Tasmania has a lot of whiskey distilleries, and the Uncharted crew was lucky enough to find Peter Bignell and his Wholly Shit whiskey. Viewers didn’t see Gordon Ramsay’s initial expression when he found out about what went into the process of making this particular whiskey, but his reactions to the process and actually pitching in were pretty entertaining.

The timing was apparently just right, and the name of the whiskey certainly doesn’t hide that there was a unique fuel that went into making it! The process of making the Wholly Shit whiskey involved the dried dung of sheep that ate distillery grain, and it was burned instead of peat. The whiskey was smoked in sheep poop, so drinkers weren’t actually consuming sheep byproduct. And, according to Uncharted boss Jon Kroll, the finished product was pretty tasty:

As to be expected from Gordon Ramsay: Uncharted, Gordon Ramsay himself didn’t just show up, chat with distiller Peter Bignell, buy a bottle of Wholly Shit and then head off to gather his next ingredient. Ramsay participated in the Wholly Shit process, and the experience involved some… well, shoveling. Let it not be said that Ramsay isn’t willing to participate in the process of Uncharted despite his success in more conventional kitchens!

Speaking with Jon Kroll, I asked if Gordon Ramsay balked at helping out with the Wholly Shit process or any of the other physical chores of Uncharted, which can be pretty unglamorous. Kroll shared:

As viewers who caught the Season 2 premiere of Gordon Ramsay: Uncharted in Tasmania know, Gordon Ramsay wasn’t working with the sheep poop just for the sake of slapstick or silliness. He was helping make Wholly Shit, and when a whiskey called Wholly Shit needed more fuel, Ramsay grabbed a shovel to make it happen. He left the distillery with a bottle of whiskey, and he was clearly impressed with Wholly Shit. The shoveling certainly seemed to pay off.

Combined with other Tasmanian ingredients like wallaby, Tasmanian Leatherwood Honey, fish, and more, the Wholly Shit made for a dish that definitely impressed the people from the episode who got a taste, and probably made viewers everywhere hungry for a taste themselves.

While Wholly Shit won’t be appearing on supermarket shelves everywhere, Gordon Ramsay: Uncharted still has plenty of unique ingredients and gourmet off-the-grid dishes in store in the rest of Season 2. Gordon Ramsay will even snack on a giant tarantula this season, and it might just be tastier than expected!

Nowadays, we're seeing more and more vloggers become bonafide celebrities through their popular YouTube channels. So much so that genuine movie stars and TV personalities are not only taking notice and turning themselves into prominent YouTubers as well. The results are... interesting, to say the least. Not every superstar has what it takes to be YouTube famous — surprisingly enough — but there are a handful of famous, popular media personalities who've made the jump into YouTube stardom, including Will Smith. His YouTube channel is just one of several celebrity-made platforms where movie/TV stars produce regular, sometimes even daily, online content for their subscribers.

Will Smith

While Will Smith's blockbuster status ultimately isn't what it used to be, the world-famous actor/musician remains popular and active through his engaging YouTube account. The results are high-energy and comical, though he'll occasionally get serious when discussing his passions and beliefs. An immensely talented, charismatic performer, Jack Black is an actor-musician with outstanding range and a great screen presence, though Black has recently shifted his focus towards making YouTube videos. Specifically, as Jablinkski Games, Black makes game-plays, playing the newest, hottest video games in quick-bite videos. The YouTube page allows Black to reach his audience from the comfort of his home, and it looks like he enjoys that accessibility. Last year, when Jumanji: The Next Level hit theaters, Black claimed that he was retiring from moviemaking to spend more time with his family and working on other projects, including fostering his YouTube channel and new Tenacious D music. It would be a great shame to no longer see Black on the silver screen, but with nearly five million subscribers and counting, Jack Black is definitely gaining a massive YouTube fanbase.

Kevin James

Though he's best known for sitcoms like The King of Queens and Kevin Can Wait, as well as movies like Grown Ups 1 & 2, Paul Blart: Mall Cop 1 & 2, Hitch, and the Hotel Transylvania franchise, Kevin James forged an odd new YouTube career, where he'll regularly post short films that surprisingly aren't always directly comedic. Even some of the intentionally funny videos are more darkly amusing, like the one above. In fact, as Polygon noted, these shorts show a previously-unseen dramatic range for James, suggesting that he might want to venture into more serious projects. They're based on thin premises, like James eagerly waiting for a green light, misreading a hand wave, or spending birthdays by himself, but many carry a sense of melancholy and restraint that was previously unseen from the performer.

Ryan Reynolds

Even though Ryan Reynolds is a world-famous movie star, the actor-producer keeps an active online presence. Much like Deadpool, Reynolds is jokey, fun-loving, and irreverent when it comes to his YouTube account. The actor is more active on the platform whenever there's a movie to promote (makes sense), but he's known to post goofy, genuinely funny videos, including the one seen above, as well as this meta advertisement, which gives the actress at the center of the widely-mocked Peloton ad the redemption she deserves while also peddling out Reynolds' signature gin. While a majority of these videos promote his movies or alcohol brand, they all carry the A-lister's signature cheeky sense of humor. They certainly have more consistent entertainment value than some other celebrity YouTube accounts. Of course, we'd expect nothing less from Reynolds.

Tia Mowry - Tia Mowry's Quick Fix

Better known as one half of the popular sitcom, Sister, Sister, as well as Disney Channel movies like Twitches and Twitches Too, actress Tia Mowry has continued to work as a TV personality, notably in The Game, Instant Mom, and the ongoing Family Reunion, but the former child star has also been building a YouTube presence. Her channel, Tia Mowry's Quick Fix, finds her making food, answering questions, providing updates on her family life, and more. Mowry produces a new video on at least a monthly basis, sometimes weekly, and has gained nearly 718,000 subscribers.

An English actor-comedian who came to fame through Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Get Him to the Greek, Hop, Arthur, and the first two Despicable Me movies, Brand shifted his career towards activism and campaigner, and that's more commonly reflected on his YouTube channel. If you go to Brand's YouTube and expect more jokey videos, you'll be disappointed. Brand's YouTube presence focuses on the British comic discussing political and psychological topics, while also exploring religion, neuroscience, mediation, and other heady conversation pieces. The videos can be broad-reaching in their focus, though they showcase Brand's eagerness to explore a variety of dense topics in a thoughtful, mindful way. Brand is also consistent in his content. He'll post more-than-a-few videos a week. Sometimes, he'll post daily. He has amassed more than two million followers.

The former teen heartthrob who became a household name through his High School Musical role, Efron's adult years have featured a few daring, unconventional career choices, though his YouTube channel is more mainstream. Though he doesn't post as often as some other celebrities on this list, Efron provides celebrity-filled workout tips, as well as taste tests and a few adventure-filled videos. Admittedly, Efron hasn't produced any new content here in five months, though his consistency on YouTube tends to come in waves.

A chef, restaurateur, and television personality, Ramsay has juggled several professions throughout his career, which means that his YouTube transition was understandingly swift. Through his account, which welcomes celebrities like Rhonda Rousey, the Bella twins, Steve-O and more, Ramsay is seen making a variety of dishes in a short span of time. There are also comical videos where Rasmay "tries out" for the NFL and indulges in a Christmas-themed road trip. But for the most part, the content is predominately food-based, which makes sense. Though he's known for his temper, Ramsay's videos seem more casual and informative in their approach, garnering him 14-plus million subscribers.

The actress had a habit of posting a new video every two weeks in the early days, though she's been less consistent lately. Gordon Ramsay is not known for holding anything back, and the celebrity chef is at it again while promoting his new show Gordon Ramsay: Uncharted. This time, Ramsay is speaking out regarding the critical assertions some have made that Uncharted is cribbing from Anthony Bourdain’s award-winning series, Parts Unknown.

While taking part in the Uncharted panel for the Television Critics Association summer press tour, Gordon Ramsay spoke out about the issue, saying this:

There you have it. Not that Gordon Ramsay was expected to deliver a 20-minute admission about secretly copying Anthony Bourdain's work, though it would have made his answer (per Deadline) as spicy as some of the food he eats during his various series.

Will this be the last time the Hell’s Kitchen star has to weigh in about his show's comparative qualities to Anthony Bourdain's Parts Unknown? Probably not. Last year, Ramsay addressed the critique with some pretty strong words, but that was before Gordon Ramsay: Uncharted had even gotten a chance to air.

The series recently premiered on Nat Geo, though, which has accordingly renewed the conversation. For those who don't even understand why the comparisons between Gordon Ramsay’s new show and Anthony Bourdain’s final series exist, it's because Ramsay travels to locations far and wide on his series, testing out local delicacies that are vastly different from what many people are used to. Essentially, it's a travel show that focuses on food, putting it squarely in the same genre as Bourdain’s series.

In his latest statement addressing his critics, Gordon Ramsay did acknowledge his respect for Anthony Bourdain, as well as for how the chef-turned-author-turned-host crafted Parts Unknown. However, Ramsay points out that “this journey” that got him to Gordon Ramsay: Uncharted, began back in 2004. Why does that matter?

Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown premiered almost a decade later in 2013. Making it impossible for Gordon Ramsay to have just cut, copied, and pasted Parts Unknown’s formula for himself. The same goes for Bourdain's earlier series No Reservations, which debuted in 2005.

In Ramsay’s previous statement addressing the comparisons, the chef also asserted how his activities pre-dated Bourdain’s on his series.

Anthony Bourdain passed away last year at the age of 61. His show concluded after airing one more season on CNN following his death. At the time, Ramsay told EW that his friend would be “happy and impressed” with the amount of jeopardy taken on in Uncharted.

Gordon Ramsay also urged people to reserve judgment until they had seen his new show. Now that curious minds are able to do so, the tide may change regarding comparative feedback.

Fox's Hell's Kitchen is getting ready to embark on its eighteenth season, which means more cooking action. Over the course of the show's history, which dates back to 2005 in America, the series has witnessed its share of heated moments in the kitchen, and inevitably the countless insults the show's host and star, Gordon Ramsay, has given contestants. All of which begs the question: after thirteen years, what does Ramsay consider his biggest insult? Well, this what Ramsay had to say:

So, the infamous "idiot sandwich" insult did not make the cut. While his first answer was pretty tame, he got more intense with his second pick. "Idiot sandwich" arguably falls somewhere in between both of the ones Gordon Ramsay cited to EW, although it's worth noting that the "idiot sandwich" moment came from a late-night sketch rather than an actual episode of Ramsay's show. Ramsay's answer to the initial question regarding his favorite reprimand does offer tremendous insight with him beginning by explaining what the biggest insult a chef can hear is. And future contestants would be wise to take note because it is a common-sense tip. Do not lie!

Gordon Ramsay provided a prime example of the lies he has caught people in, and it was claiming that patrons finished meals that they had actually asked to be carted away. A definite big no-no. As Ramsay points out, coming equipped to play the role of a competent chef is not going to be a benefit.

That is, having the fanciest equipment is no benefit if you do not have the skill-set necessary to utilize the high-priced assets. Why someone who cannot slice and dice something properly would want to throw their chef's hat in the ring, let alone make a big purchase to support said move, is anyone's guess. But this is reality television, folks. So, stranger things have happened.

In his interview, Ramsay went on to say that he did not have any regrets over the things he has said to contestants over the years. Saying that when he has watched himself on television, he has not anything where he would think of himself as being a "dick."

On a related note, Gordon Ramsay was also asked if there are any things that he is no longer allowed to say to contestants. To which he asserted that while the "climate is changing," he has not ever said anything "so below the belt." So, it does not sound like there has been any censorship.

Gordon Ramsay sounds pumped about the new season, calling it "the best" installment so far. Season 18 will pit rookie talent from the culinary world against the series' All-Stars. So, it is about to get hot in the kitchen! Season 18 of Hell's Kitchen premieres Friday, September 28 at 9 p.m. ET on Fox. Let the cooking commence! As for other television options, Hell's Kitchen is one of many other shows set to arrive this fall, including ones on Fox's schedule.

So, according to Gordon Ramsay, for more than a decade the chef has spent time traveling around the world to influence his culinary tastes and to have new experiences.

Furthermore, Gordon Ramsay says that he was pals with Anthony Bourdain and would never have deigned to do anything to try to shoehorn himself exactly into the space Bourdain occupied in the culinary world. He also told EW in the interview about the controversy:

All in all Gordon Ramsay is not mincing words, either when it comes to defending his new show or his pal's memory. In fact, Ramsay was one of the major celebrities who came out to bring suicide awareness after Anthony Bourdain took his own life back in June. In the time since, both CNN and the Travel Channel paid tribute to the chef and travel expert and the final episodes of his series are set to hit the schedule later this year. According to Ramsay, Uncharted is not supposed to be like No Reservations or Parts Unknown.

Food-related travel shows (or travel-related food shows?) on television are fairly common, but no one did them quite like Anthony Bourdain. It seems like Gordon Ramsay has no desire to try to compete with his old "mate," but like most controversies that arise before new programs air, we'll have to wait and see what Uncharted is like when it hits the airwaves. The new Nat Geo series will hit the airwaves sometime in 2019. For now, you can catch Gordon Ramsay back on Fox when Hell's Kitchen returns to the schedule on September 28.

Television audiences are no stranger to Gordon Ramsay and his brash British persona, and it appears that they won't forget about the celebrity chef anytime soon. Fox has experienced some success with his latest series Gordon Ramsay's 24 Hours to Hell and Back, and the network has announced the kitchen-saving show will return for Season 2. Fox coupled news of Gordon Ramsay's 24 Hours to Hell and Back's renewal with the report that the show's debut episode posted a 1.4 rating in Live +7 calculations, making it one of the summer's number one new shows. The show, which airs after the Gordon Ramsay's other Fox series MasterChef, has helped the network win its 16th consecutive Wednesday night among entertainment programs. The numbers show Fox executives must be happy with the show's performance thus far, and as for Gordon Ramsay, he shared on Twitter he's equally as excited to be returning:

The renewal of Gordon Ramsay's 24 Hours to Hell and Back came just prior to the premiere of the show's third episode, in what is slated to be an eight-episode first season. The series features Ramsay traveling across America in his 70-foot Hell On Wheels semi-truck and attempting to save various failing restaurants using renovations and tough love, all in the course of 24 hours. The show is very similar to Ramsay's other projects like Kitchen Nightmares, with the key difference being the time limit in which the chef has to adequately turn things around.

That's not the only difference Gordon Ramsay's 24 Hours to Hell and Back, however, as longtime fans of Gordon Ramsay's programming likely don't remember the chef traveling cross country in a semi-truck. The truck is more than a gimmick, as it unfolds into a giant state of the art mobile kitchen Ramsay utilizes to help turn things around so quickly. As usual, Ramsay brings his fiery and angry personality and passion into these restaurants to help whip them into shape, and hopefully turn things around before the business is forced to close.

Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay took a turn hosting the British talk show The Nightly Show recently and reignited a debate among food connoisseurs and pizza lovers everywhere. In one segment of the show, Ramsay ordered a bunch of pizzas by phone and asked audience members to call out recommendations for toppings. One audience member shouted "pineapples," prompting Ramsay to cover the phone and jokingly scold the audience member over the recommendation. The brief interaction reignited the internet argument over pineapple on pizza, a debate that swept social media earlier this year. This time, some celebrities even chimed in with tweets like this one from Paul Rudd:

In typical Gordon Ramsay fashion, the Hell's Kitchen star did not mince words about his opinion on pizzas topped with the tropical fruit, saying,

Ramsay's opinion echoed that of Iceland's president, Gudni Johannesson, who ignited the debate about pineapple on pizza earlier this year when he made an appearance at a high school and joked that pizza with pineapple as a topping should be illegal. After Johannesson's talk, people on the internet drew lines with some people for and other people against the staple ingredient of Hawaiian pizza. Eventually, Johannesson issued a statement to communicate his fondness for pineapples themselves, but not pineapples on pizza. At the end of the statement, Johannesson recommended seafood on pizza instead.

But Gudni Johannesson is a politician, not a famous chef with an empire built on his palette. With Gordon Ramsay adding his two cents, perhaps people ought to give pineapple on pizza a second thought. The key word there is "perhaps" because the truth is we do not see any problem with pineapple on pizza, and that probably will not change just because a famous chef suggests that it should. Still, we can understand how some people might dislike the mix of textures between the soft pineapple and gooey cheese or even the mix of sweet and savory tastes with pineapple and other pizza flavors.

However, can we back up for a minute? The guy who began the debate, the president of Iceland, expressed his loathing of pineapple on pizza, but it is not as though pineapple, cheese, and even ham are a strange combination. Many great recipes call for fruit and cheese together--even pineapple and ham together. At the same time, Gudni Johannesson recommended pizza with seafood on it. Seafood is something that turns off a lot of people whether it is on pizza or not. Again, we do not have any problem with seafood pizza, but we can see how some people might think it sounds unappealing. So, we find it interesting that Johannesson would recommend a kind of pizza topping that sounds unusual over one that seems pretty standard these days.

Maybe pineapple on pizza is not for everyone. It's okay to be picky sometimes, but it's also fun to try new things, so we would love to hear from you. Television viewers have long maintained a love affair with food. Cooking shows foster our creativity, capture our culinary imaginations, and simply provide some of the best entertainment around. With that in mind, arguably no TV chef has mastered the art of the cooking show quite like the foul-mouthed Gordon Ramsay. Over the course of the last decade, Ramsay has become television's resident "bad boy" chef, and he has a new show coming next year that will use that persona to full effect.

We've just learned that Gordon Ramsay has teamed up with FOX to bring a brand new cooking show to television. Titled The F Word, based upon Ramsay's UK based cooking show of the same name, the series will combine game show and variety show elements into a weekly event. Every episode will follow Ramsay as he pits contestants against each other to prepare food for high profile guests. Expect plenty of cursing and screaming along the way.

Of course, Gordon Ramsay is not stranger to the realm of television at this point. As one of the biggest celebrity chefs in the entire world, he has made a name for himself by bringing a larger than life kitchen persona to the small screen. From Hell's Kitchen, to MasterChef, to Kitchen Nightmares, the man has been a constant television fixture for years, and it looks like The F Word will combine all of the best elements of his persona into one awesome series.

However, there's one aspect of The F Word that sets it apart from Gordon Ramsay's previous television outings -- it's going to be a live series. By bringing the celebrity chef into the realm of live television, FOX has seemingly created an environment in which anything can happen at any moment. In fact, we have a feeling that the network is banking on that.

Although we still don't know too much about The F Word, we're beyond excited to see what happens when Gordon Ramsay once again brings his trademark edge and sense of humor to television. It will all be worth it if he gets this furious while filming the show:

The U.S. verson of Masterchef has aired on Fox for several years now. While Gordon Ramsay has been a constant on the reality competition series, a lot of the other judges have changed out over time. Christina Tosi joined the show as a judge during Season 6, and recently, Gordon Ramsay revealed that his favorite moment while filming the TV series actually featured the female Masterchef judge. Here's what he had to say:

I can't say that I've seen every episode of Masterchef that has aired, but I have seen quite a few---especially since Tosi joined the series--and I honestly don't remember this ever happening.Gordon Ramsay's comments in his most recent AMA make me wonder whether this was footage that never made the show or whether this is footage we will actually see in an upcoming episode of Masterchef. After all, Masterchef is currently airing its seventh season on Fox. In addition, the show has already been renewed for Season 8, but I'm presuming that set of episodes hasn't started filming, yet, as casting has just commenced.

Gordon Ramsay Dash takes place in the high-speed, high-stress setting of a restaurant where you work alongside Ramsay to create extraordinary meals for restaurant customers. Ramsay spoke with Engadget and said of the game,

Gordon Ramsay partnered with Glu Mobile, the company who brought us the overwhelmingly successful Kim Kardashian mobile game. And with how popular Gordon Ramsay has been in the entertainment world, hopefully it will help boost sales for the game.

The game will also include a unique component, called Chef Duels, which will let players compete against other players (and friends) in the ultimate cook-off.

And maybe the best part of the game, Engadget reports that Ramsay took weeks to record lines for the game, including many memorable quotes both positive and negative. You can expect to be overly praised when you do something right, and torn to bits if you let your restaurant fall short of expectations.

So if you've always secretly dreamed of having Gordon Ramsay yell at you in Hell's-Kitchen-fashion, then you're in for a real treat.

The game will be available in just a few days on June 30, but you might want to make sure you're really packin' in your wallet before downloading. Famous folks poking fun at themselves is always entertaining, and key members of the cast of ITV’s Downton Abbey spoofing their own show in a comedy sketch for a good cause is sure to be a favorite – or should that be favourite? – of the 2015 holiday season. Lord Grantham, Lady Edith, and Isobel Crawley sat in as American Idol-style judges as a stream of hopefuls came to the Abbey to audition for the role of Santa Claus. Although plenty of familiar Downton faces popped into the audition room, the real stars were the real-life celebrities who swung by to try out for a part. Check it out!

The ten-minute sketch plays like a showcase of famous Brits, ranging from Warwick Davis to bleeped-out chef extraordinaire Gordon Ramsay. The star-studded cast of the Downton Abbey Text Santa sketch is a solid follow-up to last year’s venture that featured George Clooney in a Christmas Carol-esque featurette of just what might have befallen the Abbey if Lord Grantham had never been born. On the whole, however, Mr. Carson’s jolly appearance as Father Christmas in the 2015 clip may just have been heartwarming enough to eclipse the fun of the 2014 Clooney-fest.

This year’s sketch is particularly enjoyable because it is just so very…well, British. Harry Potter had representatives with both Warwick Davis and Jim Broadbent, Doctor Who had a presence in Penelope Wilton, and the upstairs and downstairs of Downton alike were featured on screen. Of course, the long-winded monologue filled with Cockney slang may have been a bit too British for folks on the American side of the pond to get too many laughs out of it, but it's perfect for the target audience. After all, Americans aren't going to be the primary people donating to the Text Santa ITV charity appeal.

Text Santa is ITV’s annual charity drive that makes it almost too easy for Brit viewers to donate. A simple text is a pledge to contribute to a fund that will be split between MacMillan Cancer Support, Make-A-Wish UK, and Save the Children.

The 2016 Text Santa presentation from the crew at Downton Abbey will sadly be the last to air while the show is still producing new material. The end is sadly nigh for the series, but at least our wait for our last glimpse of the Crawleys and Co. at Downton will be somewhat funnier now that we have the Text Santa sketch to rewatch. Who knows? Depending on how the series ends, we may need the sketch to cheer us up after that final installment. The series finale of Downtown will air on Christmas Day on ITV, and the sixth and final season will begin its run on PBS on January 3, 2016.

Shut it down! That's what Gordon Ramsay is doing with his popular unscripted series Kitchen Nightmares, both in the U.S. and the U.K. Does this mean that he's cleaned up all of the struggling restaurants on both sides of the pond? Not likely. From the sound of it, Ramsay has simply decided to stop making the show.

Variety posted the news, citing an update on Gordon Ramsay's website, which announces Ramsay's decision to pull the plug on the show, and offers an update on the status of the UK series' remaining episodes...

Kitchen Nightmares stars celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay, who visits a different restaurant in each episode and helps them figure out why it's struggling or failing. Oftentimes, poor management plays its part. Whatever the case may be -- whether it's a bad or dated menu, poor decor, a frustrated staff, kitchen problems -- Ramsay uses his restaurant expertise and candid method of doling out advice to help the restaurant reboot itself and hopefully overcome its problems.

The original series, Gordon Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares debuted in the U.K. on Channel 4 in 2004 and has aired for 32 episodes (24 fix-up shows, 8 revisits). The series, which aired stateside on BBC America, was later adapted for the U.S. to air on Fox in 2007, with Ramsay once again starring. Except instead of U.K. eateries, the restaurants featured were in the U.S.. The production seemed to favor the East Coast, with quite a few episodes showcasing New York restaurants, however Fox's Kitchen Nightmares traveled to other parts of the country as well, including California, Louisiana and Michigan.

While Gordon Ramsay may be calling it quits on fixing up restaurants for Kitchen Nightmares, he still has a pretty strong presence at Fox, between Masterchef, Hell's Kitchen, Hotel Hell, and Masterchef Jr..

In the meantime, in addition to his announcement, Ramsay shared a list of facts about Kitchen Nightmares from over the years, including that there've been 123 restaurants in 99 cities within 2 countries visited and the episodes have sold in 150 territories globally. The swear count totals 10,197 -- all for Ramsay? That's not specified, but l mean, probably most of them, right? Ahem...

Kitchen Nightmares has also apparently featured .4 gallons of tears, 27 meltdowns, 1 walkout, 1 mice and 6 meows.

You know what Fox needs? Another Gordon Ramsay cooking show! Ok, not really, but it's getting one, and it actually sounds like it could be good. The title should clue you in to what this show is all about. Junior Masterchef is a new culinary competition series that has cooking enthusiasts between the ages of eight and thirteen attempting to show off their skills in the kitchen. News of this series order comes with word that Masterchef has been renewed for two more seasons. And Hell's Kitchen has been renewed for another season.

There certainly won't be any less Ramsay on Fox anytime soon. The celebrity chef has secured a new multi-year deal with the network. Included in that is Junior Masterchef, which is based on the British format, and will presumably work similar to Masterchef in having amateur cooks competing with one another. I can definitely see that working for a TV show, as I expect there are some great undiscovered kid cooks out there just waiting for a chance in the spotlight. Ramsay's known for his tough criticism, but there's a lot less yelling on Masterchef than what we might hear on Hell's Kitchen, or even Kitchen Nightmares, so I think the kids shouldn't have cause to worry there.

There's no mention of casting for the series, but if you know a kid with the kitchen chops to compete, you might try keeping an eye on Fox's casting page for updates.

The fourth season of the grownup version of Masterchef is set to debut on May 22. And now we know there are two more seasons lined up after that. As for Hell's Kitchen, the series is currently amidst its eleventh season, and it looks like it'll be back for a twelfth.

With Junior Masterchef joining Fox at some point in the 2013-2014 season, that puts five Gordon Ramsay TV shows on Fox. Junior Masterchef joins Masterchef, Hotel Hell, Hell's Kitchen and Kitchen Nightmares.

Here we go again, Hell’s Kitchen fans. Time to figure out how these chosen contestants can claim to be cooks, or even more unfathomable, chefs. The season premiere of Hell’s Kitchen felt as if it were made for people like me who criticize the cheftestants each year on their silly mistakes. We were shown cooking demonstration videos, shots of the cooks reading what appeared to be a massive recipe book for the restaurant, and a lot of explanation of how much more difficult the reality of Ramsay’s kitchen is compared to sitting at home.

But I’m not letting these people off easily. Sure, that’s a big recipe book. It should be noted that they’re not making all of those items during dinner. In fact, the vast majority is made throughout the day preparing for dinner service. So no matter how thick of a recipe book you’re handed, you can glance at it as you make each item. That book is the bible of Hell’s Kitchen, and there’s no excuse to make anything when it’s absent.

I hope that we’re not going to travel down the same path as last year, but sweet lord do I have a deep desire to kick the people on this show in the throat when they mess up risotto or scallops. The rice is already 99% cooked before dinner service begins. All you have to do is build it in the pan according to what Ramsay’s recipe dictates. Dump items in a sauté pan, toss, add chicken stock, toss, when nearly done cooking “finish” with butter (I believe it was mentioned that the lobster risotto is finished with mascarpone). Check for seasoning, adjust, and serve. Two, maybe three, minutes and that dish is done.

And what cook doesn’t always have a hot sauté pan ready when it’s needed? The scallop problem on Hell’s Kitchen would be alleviated greatly if these people learned to have a hot pan nearby at all times.

I understand that there are additional pressures being on a network cooking show that acerbates the little normal kitchen issues into meltdowns. But come ready to do the basics, and you’ll be fine. At least you’ll get through.

We’ll get into the cheftestants themselves as the season goes on. To be honest I couldn’t differentiate between half of the girls. Blonde 1 is getting yelled at, now blonde 2. Oh, fire wing lady seems to be doing alright. Wait? Was that blonde 1 or 2 that was just thrown out of the kitchen? Never mind, they’re both gone anyways. I’m not saying all white people look alike, but damn I had a hard time with that.

Aside from the fake Italian American and the farmer who gave me a chill up the spine, the guys were quite banal. Salvatore (I think that’s his name) just strikes me as fake. He’s been in America for over 20 years and still has that accent for the women? It’s a caricature and I don’t trust him. You want a charming Italian accent on a chef, go watch Fabio on Top Chef.

Some girl that wasn’t the middle aged Fran ended up going home from the girl’s team tonight. But if the season premiere is an indication of the direction this year will take we’re all in for an exhausting summer.
