When it comes to finding new shows to binge, the options are seemingly endless. So that’s really my only excuse for initially passing over a new action comedy series hitting the 2026 TV schedule. Because after seeing the Rotten Tomatoes score for Ride or Die, I think I’m going to be firing up my Amazon Prime Video subscription to check out the series that critics are calling “rip-roaring fun.”

Ride or Die stars Octavia Spencer and Hannah Waddingham as friends on the run from Bill Nighy, who plays the director of a crime syndicate. These decorated actors — who all have BAFTAs to their name, as well as other accolades — are undoubtedly part of the reason the series has been declared Certified Fresh by Rotten Tomatoes, holding a 96% on the Tomatometer. Sabrina Carr of Metro says it’s more than just the performances, though. She says it’s an action-packed comedy that actually made her laugh. Her review reads:

After watching the Ride or Die trailer, it does seem like Debbie (Octavia Spencer) and Judith (Hannah Waddingham) might just be the action team I never knew I needed. Debbie is the wife of a politician who thinks her best friend Judith is a forensic accountant. Judith has been keeping a big secret, though, which her friend gets pulled into after a failed assassination attempt.

Aramide Tinubu of Variety enjoys how the friends’ lives are explored beyond generic talking points like career, family or ageism, really getting to the heart of Debbie and Judith’s friendship. Ride or Die loses its luster when new characters and sidequests pull attention away from their dynamic, but Tinubu says this series is worth seeing for Hannah Waddingham’s stunts alone. The critic says:

Critics aren’t the only ones excited about Ride or Die, either. Rotten Tomatoes’ audience gives it an 82% rating (as of this writing), with some of their reactions reading:

The talent involved in Ride or Die — in addition to Hannah Waddingham apparently doing so many of her own stunts — should have been a clear indication that this would be a worthy Amazon Prime binge. Without fail, every single time I’ve rewatched Ted Lasso with my Apple TV subscription, I replay the moment where Ted hits his head on Rebecca’s door frame. It’s so shocking that I always instantly replay it. However, the story behind filming that moment makes it even crazier, because it was a total accident. And I have to say, the fact that it wasn’t meant to happen makes Hannah Waddingham’s look of horror in the episode make a lot more sense.

The moment in question happens during Season 1, Episode 10, after a meeting Ted has with Rebecca. During their conversation, Ted voices his insecurities about coaching the team, and Rebecca hypes him up. That prompts the coach to realize he can “cause chaos” on the pitch, and with his newfound realization, he jumps for joy out of her office. However, he jumps a bit too hard and hits his head and knee on the doorframe. He then falls down, gets up, and says he’s “fine.” According to Jason Sudeikis, he really wasn’t fine, though, as he explained on The Drew Barrymore Show:

Well, that story about filming this Ted Lasso moment could certainly explain why Hannah Waddingham’s Rebecca looked like she was in utter shock when her coach slammed into the door frame (which you can see in the image at the top of this story).

While I know they turned the camera around to get Waddingham's coverage after Sudeikis hurt himself, I also have to assume they were both in shock about what just happened. So, I’d imagine that looking horrified and concerned for the camera was not difficult. In fact, I’d assume there was really no acting required there, because from a viewer’s perspective, the way the Ted actor jumped, hit himself, and then fell was so utterly unexpected. I have to believe they felt the same way on set too.

Now, I’m very curious to see if there are moments like this in Season 4 of Ted Lasso. Both Sudeikis and Waddingham are set to return, alongside Juno Temple (Keeley Jones), Brendan Hunt (Coach Beard), Brett Goldstein (Roy Kent) and Jeremy Swift (Leslie Higgins). Plus, a whole new set of characters will be joining them, as Ted will return to AFC Richmond to coach the women’s team.

With all that in mind, I’m sure the cast and creatives will bring us many new gags, goofs and hilarious quotes that will leave us laughing and maybe even gasping like this Season 1 moment did.

However, we’ll have to wait a bit longer to find out, as Season 4 of Ted Lasso is set to premiere on the 2026 TV schedule on Wednesday, August 5. In the meantime, we can all go back and watch this wild, injury-inducing moment by streaming the beloved comedy series on Apple TV.

While Debbie (Octavia Spencer) finds out that Judith (Hannah Waddingham) is an assassin early in Ride or Die, the fact that she kept that secret for so long looms large over the entire show. So, as I watched the project on the 2026 TV schedule, I couldn’t stop stressing about said secret. That's why I asked Hannah Waddingham about it and how long her character kept it.

Throughout Ride or Die, Waddingham’s character fights off bad guys, but she also has to deal with inner demons and secrets. This specifically applies to the state of her friendship with Debbie, as Judith didn't tell her she was an assassin for decades. Considering how long she kept her true profession under wraps, I asked the Ted Lasso actress if her character ever thought about confessing to her pal. In response, she said:

As I was watching the show, I couldn’t help but think about how natural that secret became. Judith’s life with Debbie was an escape from her professional life, and telling her about it would endanger both of them. So, she just kept on keeping this massive part of her life to herself.

To that point, Waddingham explained that she made sure her performance acknowledged the fact that keeping this information from her best friend was second nature:

In the Ride or Die trailer alone, Debbie and Judith’s bond is on full display. So, you can imagine both how hard it might have been to live with that secret and how terrible it was for both of them when it was revealed.

As the show goes on, Debbie reckons with Judith’s real job, and it impacts their friendship in a big way. However, while she was utterly blindsided by her pal’s reveal, I also couldn’t help but wonder if she was ever suspicious about all this. So, I asked Spencer about it, and she said:

Waddingham went on to say that both characters coped with their lives by hiding things, and they’ve each gotten so used to it that it was something they could do without thinking about it too much. So, there was no suspicion. However, once the cat was out of the bag, all of this became unavoidable conflict.

That became the driving force behind Season 1 too, as these women reckoned with Judith’s secret and worked through their history together (while also fighting off bad guys). Overall, this all helped make Ride or Die a complex story about female friendship, and Waddingham and Spencer played the nuances of it all very well.

We know Hannah Waddingham is a comedy queen; her Emmy-winning performance in Ted Lasso proves that. We also know she’s a great dramatic actress. However, in Ride or Die, her new show on the 2026 TV schedule, she proves she’s an action star too. In fact, there’s one scene in this new series she went so hard for that her own stunt double had to “raise her game.”

In Ride or Die, Waddingham plays an assassin named Judith, and in Episode 5, she finds herself captured in a bathroom with a bag on her head. As she struggles to free herself, she bites a guy and fights with three others. It’s a sequence that feels like something straight out of the Mission: Impossible movies, and it turns out the Ted Lasso actress took a page out of Tom Cruise’s book as she worked on her own stunts. Explaining how that impacted her stunt double, Waddingham said:

While Hannah Waddingham has had supporting roles in action movies like Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning and The Fall Guy, she takes center stage in Ride or Die and is very involved in its biggest set pieces. She looks like a natural on screen too. It seems like that really was the case on set, as well, considering her own stunt double had to step up her game. To that point, the actress told me:

That’s quite the feather in Waddingham’s cap, and the sequence all around is very epic. I also love that she took it so seriously and went so big that her stunt double had to get on her level. That’s a testament to how committed the actress was to the action in this show.

Overall, Waddingham is epic throughout the show, not just in this scene. Her co-lead Octavia Spencer noted that too. Earlier in our interview, I asked about moments that made Ride or Die’s stars feel the most badass. As they were talking about Judith’s skiing sequence that opens the show, The Help actress had this to say about her co-star:

As you can see in the trailer for Ride or Die alone, both Waddingham and Spencer kick butt in this show about two women who wind up on quite the action-packed adventure together.

The search for the next James Bond continues, as Amazon MGM has reportedly been looking high and low for another actor to don that sacred tuxedo. Despite confirmation that casting is underway, there’s been no indication as to which exact stars are being eyed for the role. Jacob Elordi, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and others have been linked to the role for Bond 26 and, all the while, there’s been a debate over whether a woman should play the MI6 agent. Hannah Waddingham recently weighed in on that and made a good point.

Hannah Waddingham’s Take On A Female James Bond Makes Sense

Waddingham remains booked and busy, and she’s currently looking towards the release of her new action series, Ride or Die, which is (coincidentally) going to be streamable with a Prime Video subscription. The Emmy-winning actress is a jack of all trades, whose work spans various genres and mediums. So it probably shouldn’t have been a surprise that amid a special screening of her new show, Waddingham was asked if he would consider playing 007. She had an emphatic response that made her position quite clear:

So anyone who happened to be fancasting the Ted Lasso star for the role of Commander Bond should probably put all that to rest. What I’m particularly focused on, though, is her comment about her and her fellow actresses having “other things to do.” While Waddingham obviously can’t speak for the rest of the ladies in Hollywood, I think she’s pointing to the notion of female creatives working on original characters as opposed to taking over gigs long held by men.

Don’t get me wrong, gender-bending roles can be beneficial. That’s evident even in the James Bond franchise, as Judi Dench took over the role of M after a string of male predecessors. However, I like the notion of women being able to establish fresh franchises filled with multidimensional characters and not have to work within certain parameters of established IPs. There are other variables to consider when it comes to original ideas like that, though.

It can certainly be an uphill battle for female writers, directors and producers as well as actresses to get such projects made. Not only that, but audiences are also quite particular about what they watch in theaters, whether a film is led by a woman or man. Still, the optimist in me would hope that such movies and TV shows involving women can be made.

What Have Others Said About James Bond Being Played By A Woman

Like Waddingham, others have been firm when it comes to their positions on Bond becoming a female character. Former Bond girl Gemma Arterton shared her take on the subject, and the Quantum of Solace alum questioned whether a lady playing Bond would be like a man playing Mary Poppins. Atherton also noted that some may find that kind of casting “outrageous” and that “sometimes you just have to respect the tradition.” The son of late Bond actor Roger Moore, Geoffrey, was a bit more blunt. In Moore’s estimation, if a woman takes over, than the role is simply no longer Bond, though he expressed support for a new character taking on a new operative designation that wasn’t 007.

The most recent actor to play the iconic secret agent, Daniel Craig, offered up his thoughts on the debate as well, and his thoughts align with mine. Craig argued that there should be better parts for women as well as actors of color. That’s easier said than done, of course, but I agree with his take that a woman should have an original role just as good as Bond.

Still, even if a woman doesn’t play Bond, there’s still the question of who’s going to play the character when we see him on the big screen again. It’s certainly possible that Elordi, Callum Turner or other hopefuls could get their shot to play the role, but we’ll just have to wait and see. I really don’t mind the idea of a female Bond, though I do hope Hannah Waddingham and other talented leading ladies might find themselves in the position to land roles that could possibly rival 007.

Buckle up and make sure your Prime Video subscription is in good standing, because this new 2026 TV show looks like a fun one! Amazon's streaming service dropped the trailer for their new series starring Octavia Spencer and Ted Lasso star Hannah Waddingham, and it looks like it's going to be a wild ride. In fact, based on the vibe of the trailer (above), I think this is exactly the kind of series I'm going to need this summer.

You know that best friend you call your ride or die? What if they put that phrasing to the test? Ride or Die comes from Matt Miller (as showrunner) and director Peyton Reed (who helmed the Ant-Man movies for the MCU), and stars Spencer and Waddingham as Debbie and Judith respectively, two besties who end up on the run when someone from Judith's assassin-past resurfaces. Considering Spencer's character had no idea her best friend of twenty years was once an international assassin, they clearly have some things to sort out while also trying not to die.

I'm not going to lie, this trailer looks loads of fun. I love that the premise involves a decades-long friendship between two women who know each other inside and out -- or think they do -- and then find themselves caught up in mayhem together. And seeing these two icons playing the leads in a fun action caper already had me sold on watching. I really didn't consider how badly I needed a show starring these two iconic actors facing off against big bad guys until I watched Prime Video's preview for the series.

All eight episodes of Ride or Die hit Prime Video on July 15. The cast also includes Ed Skrein, Calam Lynch, Savannah Steyn, Jamie Parker, Jacky Ido, Sylvia Hoeks and the great Bill Nighy.

One of the most important relationships in Ted Lasso is the friendship between Ted and Rebecca. We’ll get to see them return soon too, with Season 4 of Ted Lasso set to premiere this summer on the 2026 TV schedule. With that in mind, Hannah Waddingham recently spoke about her dynamic with Jason Sudeikis, the actor behind the titular character and co-creator of the show, specifically explaining why they have a “love-hate relationship” when it comes to one element of the show.

Now, it’s important to note that Waddingham has always spoken very highly of both Ted Lasso and Jason Sudeikis. However, in an interview with Variety, the production delays surrounding Season 3 did come up. Reports claimed that the wait between Seasons 2 and 3 was long because the SNL alum kept rewriting scenes. The Rebecca actress was asked about this and whether Season 4 ran more smoothly. In response, she said:

It sounds like Sudeikis isn’t afraid to make updates to his show as they go along. It also seems like this has stayed true as they’ve worked on Season 4 of Ted Lasso.

While the production delays between Seasons 2 and 3 were not confirmed, it seems like Jason Sudeikis is well known for making lots of changes. Notably, Season 2 of Ted Lasso aired in 2021, and then Season 3 premiered in 2023. So, it took two years to make it.

Meanwhile, it's been three years since Season 3 of Ted Lasso ended. After a few years of hiatus, production on Season 4 started in the summer of 2025, and it will be released on August 5 for those with an Apple TV subscription. We don’t know if rewrites and changes impacted the show’s production timeline for its newest episodes.

Anyway, again, Waddingham did candidly admit that she has a “love-hate relationship” with the Ted actor when it comes to this element of filming. However, she also said she’s “blessed" to be in "this AFC Richmond family.”

Listen, with every relationship there’s bound to be a bit of tension or conflict. It’s perfectly normal. It sounds like when it comes to Waddingham and Sudeikis’ working relationship, they might butt heads a bit when it comes to last-minute changes. However, overall, the actress made it clear how much she adores working on this great Apple TV show.

Ted and Rebecca will both be back for this new era as the focus shifts from Richmond's men's team to a new women's team, and I know I'm very excited to see Waddingham and Sudeikis working together again.

Just when I thought Aimee Lou Wood was Saturday Night Live UK's biggest get of the season, an Emmy award-winner is swooping in to lead an episode toward the end of the show's inaugural run. That's right, Hannah Waddingham is coming to the 2026 TV schedule, and I have a feeling a Ted Lasso star and major SNL alum is going to show up with her.

I was thrilled when I saw Sky TV's announcement about the actress hosting, and Waddingham on her own would be a treat. That said, wouldn't it be the ultimate Saturday Night Live crossover to have a former U.S. castmember and her co-star, Jason Sudeikis, appear as well? No word on that happening yet, but considering we just got a trailer for the fourth season of Ted Lasso and we know the series will be back on Apple TV this summer, I feel like it's well within the realm of possibility for something like this to happen.

Jason Sudeikis Would Be A Great Nod To Ted Lasso And SNL

Some might frown upon bringing in another celebrity to shine on another's moment, but it feels like that's a welcome recurring bit on Saturday Night Live. Similar to how UK legend Graham Norton showed up during Tina Fey's episode, I would love to see Jason Sudeikis show up during Hannah Waddingham's opening monologue so they can have an entertaining bit. Considering how beloved Ted and Rebecca are on Ted Lasso, as well as Sudeikis' history with the US SNL, something like this would be perfect.

He could also show up in a sketch centered around Ted Lasso, though things in Saturday Night Live are rarely ever that straightforward. I'll leave the creative brainstorming to the SNL UK writers, assuming they'll have a chance to work with Sudeikis if he does indeed show up to support Waddingham.

Will Other Ted Lasso Stars Appear?

Jason Sudeikis would be a great get for Saturday Night Live UK, but there are other Ted Lasso stars I'm sure we'd all love to see make an appearance as well. For example, I could see Brett Goldstein showing up to promote his new movie with Jennifer Lopez, Office Romance. It'd also be neat to see Phil Dunster, especially with all the critical acclaim that Rooster is getting over on HBO.

Ultimately, I'd be fine with seeing anyone from the Ted Lasso cast on Saturday Night Live UK, but if not, it's completely fine. The sketch comedy series has already won by securing Hannah Waddingham, and I'm so glad to get another chance to see her after her acclaimed series rose from the dead.

I am on record as saying that I think Ted Lasso is one of the best television shows ever made. It’s a series that, over the course of three seasons, does everything right at every step along the way, and even the co-creator of the show, Bill Lawrence, who also created other sitcom heavyweights, like Scrubs, says one of his favorite sitcom moments is in Ted Lasso.

Bill Lawrence recently sat down with Deadline and the stars of the Scrubs revival, Zach Braff and Donald Faison. The topic of the relationship between characters J.D. and Elliott came up, as the couple had apparently gotten divorced following the original season finale, but the show’s return confirmed there was still a spark between them. Lawrence himself doesn’t know where the relationship will go, but he hopes it’s handled similarly to another show on the 2026 TV schedule, Ted Lasso, which he says Jason Sudeikis handled well. Lawrence said…

He’s specifically talking about the relationship between Sudeikis’ coach and Rebecca, as played by Hannah Waddingham. The two characters got incredibly close over the course of three seasons, and they clearly shared an emotional bond. However, while audiences clearly wondered if the show might “go there,” it never really even talks about it, though it does briefly imply something might have happened as a joke. It’s something that Lawrence says would have been unthinkable on TV even a few years ago. He continued…

It’s certainly true that teasing relationships was, and still is, a big part of all sorts of television. Frequently, that’s what the show is ultimately about, with the series teasing a relationship between two major characters for as long as is humanly possible. Even when that’s not what the series is about, it's rare to have single characters of the opposite sex and not at least deal with the idea of a relationship, whether or not it ultimately happens.

It’s essentially a trope now, and tropes, while they have their place, can be frequently quite boring simply because we’ve seen them all before. Ted Lasso certainly could have gone that route, but it also had the freedom to just not do that. Lawrence loved that fans were able feel that, without it needing to simply check the boxes. He explained…

With Ted Lasso and Rebecca working together again in Ted Lasso Season 4, things still could go the romance path, and if it makes sense for the story, that’s fine. But nobody needs to expect it to happen. Such will hopefully also be the case on Scrubs. If it makes sense for two characters to get together, fine, but if they don’t, that’s fine too.

After a three-year absence, Ted Lasso is finally returning this year, with Season 4 set to premiere on the 2026 TV schedule this summer. However, there will be a handful of familiar faces from the previous three seasons absent, including Phil Dunster, who played Jamie Tartt. The good news, though, is that we’ll still see him on our small screens this year thanks to a new HBO comedy, and his former Ted Lasso co-stars Brett Goldstein and Hannah Waddingham are doing right by their man and hyping it up.

Next month, Dunster will star alongside Steve Carrell in Rooster, which was actually co-created by Bill Lawrence, the same man who gave us Ted Lasso. So there was at least one familiar face Dunster got to work with on this new project, and he shared some Rooster pictures on Instagram:

It didn’t take long for Hannah Waddinham and Brett Goldstein to show him some love in the comments section. The actress, who plays Rebecca Welton on Ted Lasso, said:

And while Roy Kent had a contentious relationship with Jamie Tartt during the first three Ted Lasso seasons, the same can’t be said for Goldstein and Dunster in real life. The former showed his support with this:

Rooster stars Steve Carell as Greg Russo, a best-selling author who has a complicated relationship with his daughter Katie, a college professor played by Charly Clive. Phil Dunster plays Katie’s ex-husband, who left her for a grad student. Suffice it to say that Carell and Dunster’s characters won’t get along (Greg refers to his former son-in-law as a “bad person” whom he hates), but hopefully the actors themselves had a delightful time working with each other.

These two are joined in Rooster’s main cast by Danielle Deadwyler, John C. McGinley and Lauren Tsai, and the recurring cast includes Annie Mumolo, Connie Britton, Robby Hoffman and Scott MacArthur. Bill Lawrence created the series with Matt Tarses, and it will run for 10 episodes on a weekly basis. It’ll be good to see Phil Dunster back on TV again, and this pairs nicely with the recent announcement of him joining the How to Train Your Dragon 2 cast. Still, it’s a shame we won’t see him performing on opposite Brett Goldstein and Hannah Waddingham, as well as Jason Sudeikis, Juno Temple, Jeremy Swift and Brendan Hunt, in Ted Lasso Season 4. If Season 5 happens, maybe it could be arranged for Dunster to make a guest appearance as Jamie.

Ted Lasso Season 4 is coming, the hype around it is real, and that means its cast members are frequently asked about it. So, after Hannah Waddingham compared returning to an “exhumed dog” and “rising from the dead,” she’s getting questions about Rebecca’s potential story. That means she’s also getting inquiries about the love life of AFC Richmond’s owner.

Obviously, she can’t actually give away any details about what’s to come for Rebecca. However, her cryptic six-word response about her character’s potential for romance 100% has me theorizing about what’s to come.

Hannah Waddingham Gave A Short But Effective Response When Asked About Rebecca Finding Love On Ted Lasso

At the moment, Season 4 of Ted Lasso is being written, and it will start production eventually, as Waddingham told ET that they “are going to be filming.” She also said “there’s going to be people” and “footballs” in it. That is all the solid facts she gave us, which is hilarious. However, when pressed for more info about Rebecca’s love life specifically, she got a bit cryptic, saying:

Along with whatever that means, The Fall Guy actress commented on getting Ted back to London, since he famously goes back to Kansas at the end of Ted Lasso’s third season. In response to comments about the coach traveling back across the pond, Waddingham said:

Listen, I would not be shocked if she’s the one to go get him, because Ted and Rebecca have a lovely friendship. However, I could also see Coach Beard making the return flight. But that’s beside the point, and not the theory I’m on about today.

After those short and sweet comments, Waddingham literally sang that she needed to stop talking and turned the conversation over to the movie Smurfs, which is what she was actually there to promote.

However, I’m still stuck on that initial six-word response we discussed, and have a theory about it and Rebecca’s love life.

I Think This Means Rebecca’s Love Life Will Look The Same As It Did In Seasons 1 Through 3

Hannah Waddingham kept it simple when asked about her character’s love life, simply saying that “Rebecca will be Rebecca-ing.” I think that means we will see romance play about as big a role in her life as it did in the first three seasons.

Therefore, I’m theorizing that Season 4 will feature a love story for Rebecca that’s fairly small and a side plot, much like her relationships with Sam and that pilot were. I also -- and this is important -- think it means there will be no romance between the AFC Richmond owner and Ted.

While Tedbecca has been teased in the show, and Waddingham and Jason Sudeikis have remarkable chemistry, there has been no romantic love story between them. So, if Rebecca is still Rebecca-ing, I am theorizing (and manifesting) that their relationship will remain platonic, and she’ll keep casually dating other guys.

However, we won’t know for sure until Season 4 premieres for those with an Apple TV+ subscription, and we don’t know when that will happen. So, let’s keep the theories going as we wait for more Ted Lasso.

While “never say never” can be a pretty good maxim to adopt for one’s life, it certainly seems to be true when it comes to entertainment, specifically some of our beloved shows coming back to life. The early days of the 2025 TV schedule brought fans some stunning and delightful news in March, when it was announced that Ted Lasso Season 4 is actually going to become a real thing, two years after the Season 3 ending had everyone thinking that was the end of the road for Jason Sudeikis' former coach and his AFC Richmond crew. Now, star Hannah Waddingham is comparing the series to an “exhumed” dog and I totally get her meaning.

What Did Hannah Waddingham Say About Ted Lasso Being Like An Exhumed Dog?

Ted Lasso was such an immediate, blockbuster hit that the conversation about whether or not it would end, as originally planned, after its third season has been going on since well before Season 3 began airing. Though all signs had pointed to “yes” for one of the best Apple TV+ shows (despite stars like Hannah Waddingham being willing to return), fans held out hope and will be rewarded soon.

When speaking to Variety about bringing Rebecca back to the small screen, Waddingham had a pretty apt analogy for Ted Lasso’s long-awaited return, and said:

Are her words a teensy bit morbid and odd? Maybe, but like I noted, this totally fits the situation, and not just because the Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning star had previously talked about the cast and crew having “mourned the loss, and now it's rising from the dead.”

Whenever a beloved TV series (especially one that brought as much joy, emotion and all-around laughter as Ted Lasso did during its three seasons) ends, all of the fans want more, and often those who work on the show do, as well. But, nothing is ever certain in life or the television business, so it’s best to fondly remember what was and just find ways to move on. The actors/writers/etc. get new jobs, and the audience delves into new TV obsessions to fill the hole that’s been left. You might wish that adored pet you had for years was still around, but you know that’s not the current reality.

In fact, Emmy winning actor/writer Brett Goldstein, opened up about the comedy’s return and compared it to a weird childhood story about a dead cat, so Waddingham’s words actually fit. She continued:

You know what? Every Ted Lasso fan on the planet is ready for Waddingham to be able to put in her two cents on what Rebecca is doing now and to see her back in her finely tailored clothes and high heels. After all, we’re Richmond ‘til we die…and then come back to life!

When Season 3 of Ted Lasso ended in 2023, it felt like the show could be over. While there were ways to continue AFC Richmond’s story, it was unclear if that would actually happen. Well, now, it’s actually happening, and Hannah Waddingham opened up about that and shared an exciting detail about Season 4.

Back in March, Jason Sudeikis confirmed that Season 4 of Ted Lasso was happening after months of rumors and speculation about the show’s potential return. Since then, some of the cast have shared thoughts on returning to Richmond, and that includes Hannah Waddingham. During an interview with Capital FM, she was asked about returning to play Rebecca, and in response, she said:

This sentiment goes along with other things that have been said about Ted Lasso Season 4. Specifically, Brett Goldstein told a story about a seemingly dead cat that made the same point. He explained that he had a friend who thought his cat had died, and his family had mourned and buried the cat. However, it turned out to be a different cat, and eventually their pet did return home.

Connecting that to Ted Lasso, the Roy Kent actor explained that he felt like that kid as this show returns more than two years after it ended. As he said, they “all cried” and “had a funeral,” but now they’re returning.

During that interview, Goldstein also reiterated a point Sudeikis made in his initial announcement, as they both confirmed Season 4 was being written. The Ted actor also noted that the new season will follow his titular character as he coaches a women’s team.

Now, Waddingham’s latest update both confirmed Rebecca’s return and a filming timeline, as she said:

Man, this show is really moving now! Considering both how long it took for Season 3 to come out and how many years it's been since that season ended, I had no clue when we’d get Season 4. And I still don’t. However, Waddingham’s update is a massive step in the right direction.

The fact that they’re going into production this summer makes me hopeful about a season potentially coming sometime in 2026. Of course, we cannot confirm a release date; however, the Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning actress’s comment gives me hope that it could come out sooner rather than later.

So, fingers crossed, we’ll get to use that handy Apple TV+ subscription to watch Season 4 of Ted Lasso sometime in the next year or so. However, in the meantime, I’ll just be grateful that this show did come back from the dead and re-watch the delightful first three seasons to get reacquainted with the world of AFC Richmond.

What We Know About Ted Lasso Season 4

Season 4 of Ted Lasso is up and running, folks! It was announced that filming began in Kansas City on July 21, which means we’re one giant step closer to the titular coach making his way back to AFC Richmond and our screens.

Along with production being confirmed, the cast of Season 4 was also revealed. We know that Jason Sudeikis will be back as Ted alongside Hannah Waddingham’s Rebecca, Juno Temple’s Keeley, Jeremy Swift’s Higgins, Brett Goldstein’s Roy and Brendan Hunt’s Coach Beard.

We also learned about some of the new cast too, and while their characters weren’t revealed, I assume they’ll be playing at least some of the AFC Richmond women’s football team. The new folks joining the cast include: Tanya Reynolds, Jude Mack, Faye Marsay, Rex Hayes, Aisling Sharkey and Abbie Hern.

Also, Ted’s son Henry will be back in the show; however, Grant Feely is taking over the role from Gus Turner.

Notably, some big names from the original Ted Lasso cast are missing, like Nick Mohammed, Phil Dunster and Toheeb Jimoh, who played Nate, Jamie and Sam, respectively. It’s unclear if they’ll make appearances in the show, and I’m crossing my fingers that we at least get a cameo from the beloved members of the men's team.

Jason Sudeikis Confirmed Ted Lasso Season 4 Is Happening

March 14, 2025, was the day Ted Lasso Season 4 was officially confirmed after months of rumors and speculation. Back in 2024, co-creator Bill Lawrence said this show’s return would be up to Jason Sudeikis. Then, on this spring day, Mr. Sudeikis finally addressed it all.

Verifying that a senior season is happening, the man behind Ted Lasso said on New Heights:

On top of confirming that Season 4 was in the works, the SNL alum explained where the story is headed, saying:

Back when Season 3 of Ted Lasso ended, I guessed that it could continue with a women’s team, considering Keeley’s proposal to Rebecca. So, it’s exciting to know that this vision could very well become a reality with the help of the titular mustachioed coach.

Brett Goldstein Compared Ted Lasso Coming Back To A Dead Cat Coming Back To Life

On the heels of Ted Lasso Season 4’s confirmation, Brett Goldstein was asked about returning. The actor plays Roy Kent in the show and serves as a writer, so he has the inside scoop.

When asked about how it felt to say goodbye to the show, only to come back, on Wild Card with Rachel Martin, the Emmy winner told a wild story about a dead cat coming back to life. He explained that a friend of his thought his cat had died, so they buried the body and mourned it. Then, they found out they didn’t bury their cat; it was someone else’s, and their pet eventually did come back.

After hearing that story, Goldstein was asked, “Did you bring Ted Lasso back from the dead?” In response, he said:

It’s an odd story to tell, but it also makes sense. In a lot of ways, it did feel like Ted Lasso was gone forever, and we came to terms with it never coming back.

However, it’s back, as the Shrinking co-creator explained:

So, the wheels are in motion, the cat is alive, and one of these days we’ll be making our way back to Richmond with Jason Sudeikis, Brett Goldstein and more.

Hannah Waddingham Would 'Always' Play Rebecca, And Compared Returning To An ‘Exhumed Dog’

Now, let me take you back to a time before Season 4 was confirmed, but after a report spread that the soccer comedy was coming back. In that claim, it was alleged that Hannah Waddingham, Brett Goldstein and Jeremy Swift had been in talks to return. So, about a month after that news broke in August 2024, the Rebecca actress was asked about it.

As you can imagine, Waddingham got hilariously real about returning to Ted Lasso, telling ET:

She was also asked if there was a script, and she said, “Of course, there’s no script.”

However, now she knows some things. There is a script, and Ted Lasso is filming Season 4. Right before all that, though, Waddingham was asked about coming back, and like Brett Goldstein, compared the feeling to an animal coming back to life. She told Variety:

I am also here for it! And I cannot wait to see the owner of AFC Richmond back in action and bossing everyone around as they get this new team up and running.

Nick Mohammed Is Unsure If He’ll Be In Ted Lasso Season 4

Nick Mohammed has always been quite cheeky when it comes to this comedy. However, he also keeps it real and has been clear about not knowing if he’ll be in Season 4.

When rumors about Ted Lasso’s return started swirling, the Nate actor used his X account to tease Season 4. Also, when he had to move some Mr. Swallow tour dates for his comedy show, he said it was because of “some filming.” In that clip, he asked people not to “speculate” about what this filming was for. However, he did hold up a “believe” sign and captioned his post with #tedlasso. So, read into that what you will.

That happened in January, and when Season 4 was confirmed in March, Mohammed posted this on X:

After all that, Mohammed explained that he does not know if Nate will be back. While on The Comedian’s Comedian Podcast, he said the following about the potential to reprise his role:

He did say that he’s had “dates checked,” so it’s possible. However, he hasn’t seen scripts. There’s no bad blood, though. He made sure of that by explaining why it makes sense that not everyone from the OG show would come back:

Juno Temple Explained Why Her Feelings About A Ted Lasso Spinoff Are 'Complicated'

When Season 4 reports were running rampant, Keeley actress Juno Temple was asked about them. Like Waddingham, she didn’t have any official news. However, she did share her thoughts on Ted Lasso’s potential return, telling EW:

So, Temple wasn’t quite sure what was going on. However, she did note that she’d heard whispers.

She also explained, understandably, that she’d only want to return for a spinoff or continuation if everyone was involved. However, she also expressed her interest in a story about Richmond’s women’s team, saying:

Well, I think she’ll be thrilled to know that Season 4 of Ted Lasso will be about a women’s team, and hopefully it will involve all of the original cast, too.

Cristo Fernández Had A Very Dani Rojas Reaction To Season 4 Claims

Of course, we’ve got a comment from one of the Richmond players, too. Back when Season 4 reports started rolling around, Cristo Fernández was asked about coming back to play Dani Rojas in the series after reprising the role in a State Farm ad.

While on The Cooligans podcast, the actor noted that he’d read the news, and said he’d love to return, saying:

I don’t think Ted Lasso would be Ted Lasso without Dani screaming, “Fútbol is life!” So, hopefully, this lovely actor can come back. He clearly wants to, and I bet the fans would want it, too.

Keira Knightley has been cast as the travel journalist who possibly witnesses a crime while covering the yacht’s launch, and Netflix announced she’ll be joined by Guy Pearce, Hannah Waddingham and several others when The Woman in Cabin 10 hits the streamer.

As previously mentioned, Keira Knightley is set to star as the journalist who believes she witnesses a terrible crime while on assignment. In Ruth Ware’s book, the character is named Lauren “Lo” Blacklock, but no character information for the upcoming movie has yet been released.

Keira Knightly is known primarily for movies, including titles like Atonement, Love Actually, the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise and 2005’s Pride & Prejudice, for which she was nominated for an Academy Award. She also earned an Oscar nod for her role in The Imitation Game in 2014. In December 2024 she starred in the Netflix original series Black Doves, which is a binge-worthy offering that earned Knightley a Golden Globe nomination.

Guy Pearce

Australian actor Guy Pearce has also been confirmed for The Woman in Cabin 10, though his role has not yet been divulged. Pearce was nominated for a 2025 Golden Globe for his role in The Brutalist. He’s also well-known for roles in films including Memento, The Time Machine, The Hurt Locker, Alien: Covenant and many more.

Simon Stone Is Set To Direct

Simon Stone is set to direct the book-to-screen adaptation, and given his own background in the theater, it makes sense why so much of his cast has stage experience. Stone made his film directorial debut in 2015 when he premiered The Daughter, a drama starring Paul Schneider and Geoffrey Rush, at Toronto International Film Festival. In 2021 he helmed The Dig, another drama, this one based on a historical novel.

The script for The Woman in Cabin 10 was written by Joe Shrapnel and Anna Waterhouse, per Variety, with Simon Stone reportedly also taking a pass at it.

The Woman in Cabin 10 Is An Adaptation Of Ruth Ware’s Ninth Novel

The Woman in Cabin 10 by Ruth Ware debuted at No. 4 on the New York Times Bestseller list when it was published in 2016 and maintained its presence amongst the year’s most popular titles. It was a nominee for Goodreads Readers’ Favorite Mystery & Thriller the year it was released. The book is Ware’s ninth crime thriller (she previously published YA fantasy novels under her birth name Ruth Warburton) and is the fourth to be optioned for a screen adaptation.

In addition to the upcoming Netflix movie, the rights to Ruth Ware’s 2015 novel In a Dark, Dark Wood were acquired by New Line Cinema in 2017, per EW, with Reese Witherspoon’s Pacific Standard attached to produce. Ware’s fans may also see The Lying Game (2017) make to the small screen, with Deadline reporting that Entertainment One bought the television rights the year it came out. Finally, Zero Days, from 2023, may also be getting the TV or streaming treatment, with Universal International Studios reportedly acquiring the rights to develop a series.

A Sequel To The Book Is Coming In Summer 2025

Ruth Ware has a lot of coals in the fire, but that’s not slowing down her novel production. The Woman in Suite 11 — a sequel to The Woman in Cabin 10 — is set to hit bookshelves on July 8, 2025. People reports that Ware’s 10th novel picks up 10 years after the events aboard the luxury yacht, with travel journalist Lo receiving an invitation to the opening of a luxury hotel in Switzerland to interview billionaire Marcus Leidmann. Once there, she meets a woman claiming to be Leidmann’s mistress who says her life is in danger. Can Lo suss out the truth and save herself and the woman?

The Movie Was Filmed On A Luxury Super-Yacht Called The Savannah

With all or most of The Woman in Cabin 10 taking place on a luxury yacht, the filming location is pretty important. According to the Dorset Echo, the movie was shot aboard an 83-meter mega-yacht called The Savannah. The award-winning yacht was built in 2015 and can fit up to 12 guests and 24 crew members. Amenities include multiple swimming pools, a spa, a gym and an underwater lounge called the “Nemo Room,” which doubles as a theater.

After reading about the super-yacht that the cast and crew of The Woman in Cabin 10 took over for filming in 2024, that definitely sounds like a trip I want to take — as long as we can guarantee no one goes overboard. My personal favorite – as a diehard Ted Lasso fan – was the one that featured Waddingham shooting darts and slowly taking better shots each time. Notably, as you can see below, one of her best attempts came after she acknowledged one of Ted Lasso’s most wholesome moments that ended with him saying “barbeque sauce:”

In no universe did I even imagine the Rebecca actress playing darts with a Royal Family member. However, I’m happy it happened, and I’m thrilled it was done for such a good cause.

Considering the power and publicity surrounding both the Royal Family and one of Apple TV+’s best shows, Ted Lasso, putting these two in the same room was bound to get buzz.

With the Ted Lasso Season 4 reports, Waddingham’s hilarious responses to said reports and her rising career, there’s a lot of love out there for her, and fans, like me, follow and listen to her. So, hearing her speak so passionately about nature is impactful, and having her chat with – you know – Prince William makes it an even bigger deal.

So, while this wasn’t on my bingo card at all, in hindsight it makes a lot of sense to bring these two people together to have a meaningful conversation. Long before Ted Lasso, Waddingham was in Belfast shooting a project, and her daughter became “seriously ill with a mysterious affliction.” She was later diagnosed with Henoch-Schonlein purpura, which is an immune-mediated disease that causes swelling of small blood vessels that can cause kidney damage. The actress had a really hard time getting back home to her kiddo because of travel delays, and that scared her a lot.

So, after that, she decided to pursue roles in shows that were shot in London. While explaining this for Jeremy Egner’s book Believe: The Untold Story Behind Ted Lasso, The Show That Kicked Its Way Into Our Hearts, she said she was determined to stay close to home, and she told her management team the following:

Later, she made it clear that her priority was her daughter, and she put her foot down, saying:

Then, her daughter got better, and Waddingham started looking for more work again. Two months into that quest, Ted Lasso entered the equation. She explained that before she sought more work she “looked up at the skies” and said thank you for saving her little girl. Then, she asked for a job, specifying exactly what she wanted:

It couldn’t have worked out any better too. After a great audition process, which included the creators of Game of Thrones sending an email on Waddingham’s behalf, she eventually landed the role. Jason Sudeikis also made it clear that he knew from the minute he saw her audition that she was their Rebecca. In the co-creator and Ted Lasso actor’s words:

Well, we know the rest of this story, both Waddingham and Sudeikis won Emmys for their performances. Rebecca went on to have a wonderful story across three seasons. And now, well over a year after we said so long to AFC Richmond after Season 3, the wait to see if Ted Lasso Season 4 happens is in full swing.

On top of all that, this Ted Lasso reunion is also reigniting my curiosity about whether the show will ever continue past Season 3.

Since Season 3 of Ted Lasso ended in May of 2023, all of us fans have been waiting to find out if we’ll ever see the AFC Richmond crew again. At the moment, that future is unclear. However, there are reports that Season 4 of the soccer comedy could happen, and recently a Warner Bros. exec said it’s early days, but they’re excited about the direction the series is moving in.

Plus, Temple has said Ted Lasso’s finale “didn’t feel like an ending” for Keeley. Meanwhile, when asked about those Season 4 reports, Waddingham declared she didn’t know what was going on, but she did say that they’d be “stupid not to” come back if Jason Sudeikis decided he wanted to continue the series.

So, while we hold out for more solid news on seeing characters like Rebecca Welton and Keeley Jones again, it’s extra lovely to see the cast together outside of the show.

Many of them have found great success since the series ended (for now) too. For example, Waddingham has starred in movies like The Fall Guy. Brett Goldstein is working on another fantastic Apple TV+ series called Shrinking. Phil Dunster has been killing it on the stage. And, along with staring in the latest season of Fargo, Temple plays a part in the third Venom film that’s hitting theaters this Friday.

Therefore, while the future of Ted Lasso is still up in the air, there’s plenty to celebrate, and Hannah Waddingham and Juno Temple did so in fashion!

Steve Carell

Like so many other people Steve Carell started his career at Second City in Chicago. He then kicked around television for a while, with roles on the Dana Carvey Show and eventually at The Daily Show. It's when he left that show to head the cast in The Office that his career exploded and he became one of the most beloved stars on earth.

Samuel L. Jackson

Samuel L. Jackson has one of the most impressive resumes in Hollywood, but it took him a long time to get there. His first credit came in 1972 when he was 24, but it would take another two decades or so, after a series of smaller roles in the late '80s, that he would land the role of Jules Winfield in Pulp Fiction and have his career completely explode.

Alan Rickman

The late, great Alan Rickman started acting in theater in the mid-70s, finding regular roles throughout the early '80s. Then, in 1988, at age 42, he made his feature film debut in a little movie called Die Hard. To this day, Hans Gruber is a legendary villain. He would go on to star in dozens of movies, most notably the Harry Potter films, before passing away in 2016 at age 69.

Betty White

Though Betty White had a little success in her 30s with her eponymous TV show for NBC in the '50s and minor hit Life with Elizabeth in the same decade, it really wasn't until after her 40th birthday in 1962 that she really rose to big stardom. After her 50th birthday, she was cast in the Mary Tyler Moore Show, and after her 60th birthday, she teamed up with Bea Arthur, Rue McClanahan, and Estelle Getty in the role she's probably best known for today in Golden Girls.

Morgan Freeman

Morgan Freeman was born in 1937, but it would take almost 50 years for the legend to truly break out in film. After working here and there as a dancer and as a stage actor in the 1960s and '70s, he scored his breakout role in 1987's Street Smart, starring alongside Christopher Reeve. His performance earned him the first of his Oscar nominations and by 1989's Glory, Freeman was a bonafide star.

Bea Arthur

Like her Golden Girls co-star Betty White, major success came later for the great Bea Arthur. Though she was a steadily-working actor starting in the 1940s, it wasn't until she played the character Maude Findlay, first in All In The Family, then her own spinoff called Maude, that Arthur reached the heights of fame. She was nearly 50 at that point, but her star never faded after that.

Brian Dennehy

Brian Dennehy didn't set out to be an actor. After serving in the Marines and graduating from Columbia University in 1965 with a degree in history, he caught the theater bug and started working in regional theater. In 1983, after a few smaller roles, he scored his first big role as the sheriff in First Blood at age 45.

Kathryn Joosten

Kathryn Joosten is best known for playing the beloved Mrs. Landingham in The West Wing and like her character, her real-life story is truly inspiring. She spent the first half of her life first as a nurse, then as a stay-at-home mom, raising two kids. At the age of 42, after divorcing her husband, Joosten began working in local theater in her hometown of Chicago. At age 53, she moved to Orlando and became a performer at Disney World. Soon after she moved to Hollywood and started landing parts in TV. Amazing.

Kathy Bates

Though she made her film debut in 1970, it would be more than two decades later, after working in theater and in bit TV parts, before Kathy Bates would become a star. It was, of course, he now-legendary performance as Annie Wilkes in Misery that would vault her to stardom. Truly one of the best female villains in Hollywood history.

Bryan Cranston

Most people certainly think first of Breaking Bad when they hear the name Bryan Cranston and with good reason. Cranston was 52 when he first starred as Walter White. Of course, that wasn't his breakout role, which came eight years earlier when he starred as the dad in Malcolm In The Middle ]. While he has been acting in movies and TV for years, it was that role, after his 40th birthday, that really put him on the map.

Viola Davis

EGOT winner Viola Davis found success on the stage first, winning two Tonys before turning 40. In 2008, at age 43, she was nominated for an Oscar for her role in Doubt, but it was 2011's The Help, for which she was nominated for another Oscar, that vaulted her to superstardom.

Rodney Dangerfield

Rodney Dangerfield has one of the best stories of perseverance in Hollywood history. Though technically his career started in the 1930s, his stand-up was so bland that he eventually gave up and became a salesman. In the 1960s, he re-invented himself and his act and it was a hit, with some of the best one-liners of all time. Suddenly the guy that got no respect was getting respect by talking about how he got no respect! It wasn't until 1980, at almost age 60, that Dangerfield landed his first starring role in a movie, in Caddyshack.

John Mahoney

John Mahoney started his career as the "old guy" at the Steppenwolf Theater in Chicago. After years as an English teacher, the future Frasier star gave up his career and started acting in his late 30s. By the late 80s, well into his 40s, he was landing roles in movies like Say Anything... and Moonstruck.

Jane Lynch

It's easy to say that Glee was the project that really made Jane Lynch famous, but she got her big break before that when she found her way into the Christopher Quest universe, where she was responsible for some of the wittiest one-liners in Best In Show.

Ricky Gervais

Ricky Gervais took a roundabout way to comedic fame. He started in music, moved to radio, and eventually found his way onto the popular British show The 11 O'Clock Show. It was in 2001, however, at age 40 when he co-created and starred in The Office. The rest is well-known history.

Michael Emerson

Michael Emerson took the very long trail to fame, and his story is inspirational. He struggled for years as an actor, first in New York, then later in Florida where he taught acting as well. He stsarted landing work in the theater in the late '90s, but got his big break in a guest spot on The Practice in 2001. Of course, he's best known for playing Ben on Lost.

Peter Dinklage

Though he found steady work in the early '00s, Peter Dinklage really shot to superstardom when he was cast as Tyrion Lannister in Game Of Thrones when he was 42. Today, that character is still, and will likely always be, one of the most beloved in TV history. Tyrion also happens to the character who appeared in the most episodes of Game of Thrones.

Larry David

Larry David's career had a lot of ups and downs in the early years. His first major gig was as a writer on SNL, though he didn't find much success there. At age 42, in 1989, he co-wrote a TV pilot for what became Seinfeld and his career took off. On screen, after playing a few minor roles onSeinfeld, he found even more fame with HBO's Curb Your Enthusiasm.

Melissa McCarthy

While she did have some big supporting roles in her 30s in Gilmore Girls and Samantha Who?, Melissa McCarthy's career exploded when she started as Molly in Mike & Molly, in 2011, at age 41, she co-starred in Bridesmaids, where she completely stole the show, earning an Oscar nomination in the process.

Margo Martindale

Margo Martindale has become one of the best character actors in Hollywood, but it took her a long time to get there. She worked in community theater for years before she regularly started landing TV roles in her late 30s. After her 40th birthday, her career took off with dozens of memorable supporting roles in both film and TV.

Leslie Jones

Saturday Night Live is generally thought of as a young person's game. Most cast members join very early in their careers and by the time they are 30, they are moving on to other things. Leslie Jones is an exception to that. She didn't join the cast until she was nearly 50, but she made an immediate impact. Since leaving the show, she's continued to star in things like 2016's Ghostbusters and Coming 2 America in 2021.

Ty Burrell

Modern Family took the world by storm when it debuted in 2007 and one of the leads of the show, Ty Burrell, became a huge star. This came after years in Hollywood in supporting roles and, eventually, a starring role in the short-lived show Out of Practice. It was Modern Family that made him a household name.

Octavia Spencer

Octavia Spencer started landing bit parts and supporting roles in the mid-90s, but it was 2011's The Help that put the Academy Award-winner on the map, after her 40th birthday. Not only did she win for her role in The Help, but she's been nominated for others as well, including for her work in Hidden Figures and The Shape of Water.

Patrick Stewart

While Patrick Stewart steadily found work in the theater and in smaller supporting roles in TV and film, it wasn't until he was cast as Captain Jean-Luc Picard in Star Trek: The Next Generation in 1987 that he became a household name. He was 47 at the time and he's only gotten more famous as he's gotten older.

Billy Bob Thornton

Billy Bob Thornton basically made his own fortune in Hollywood after years of smaller supporting roles, he wrote, directed, and starred in Sling Blade. The movie was a low-budget masterpiece and he's been starring in big roles and winning awards ever since.

Hannah Waddingham

Many actors get their start in the theater, just like Hannah Waddingham. With a fantastic singing voice and wonderful acting chops, it makes sense that this is where Waddingham would first find success. It would take a couple of decades for her to equal that on screen with roles in shows like Game of Thrones, and, of course, her greatest claim to fame, Ted Lasso.

Richard Farnsworth

Without a doubt, the late Richard Farnsworth had one of the most incredible careers in Hollywood history. He didn't earn his first credited role until he was 46 in a movie called Texas Across the River in 1966. F. Murray Abraham

After scoring a handful of supporting roles in movies in the 1970s, F. Murray Abraham became a household name after his Oscar-winning performance as Antonio Salieri in 1984's Amadeus. It was truly a career-making role and one that is still loved today by fans.

Surrounding that is a slew of silly and wholesome moments that make the show so fun, and today, we’re going to appreciate some of them.

Who knew a budding bromance on bicycles was exactly what we needed? During Season 3 of Ted Lasso, Roy and Jamie’s relationship blossomed into a true friendship, and one of the turning points came in Amsterdam when Phil Dunster’s character taught Brett Goldstien’s character how to ride a bike.

The ‘Bye Bye Bye’ Dance

As a gift for Dr. Sharon, Ted and the coaches get the team to do a fully choreographed dance to NSYNC’s “Bye Bye Bye.” AFC Richmond’s head coach explaining that the dancing is reminiscent of a marionette because the song is on the album No Strings Attached is hilarious. ‘Ceaser You Later:’ Ted Responds To Higgins's Joke About Their Lunch

One of the funniest lines in Ted Lasso came when Higgins told Ted “Ceaser you later” because they had plans to get salads for lunch together. That was hilarious, what was wholesome was Ted’s reaction because he burst back into Rebecca’s office to enthusiastically acknowledge the pun.

Ted simply bringing Rebecca biscuits every day for “Biscuits with the Boss” was already sweet. However, what makes it overwhelmingly heartwarming is the fact that the coach doesn’t buy them, he makes them from scratch himself.

Dani Rojas is a wholesome fellow, and one of his cutest moments came in Amsterdam while the team was deciding what to do for their night off. While some wanted to go out to clubs, Cristo Fernández’s character really just wanted to see a tulip. Ted Offers Roy A Coaching Job

Roy’s retirement wasn’t going smoothly at the start of Season 2, and being a pundit wasn’t for him at all. Eventually, Ted offers him a coaching job, and it’s in a very rom-com-y way. The two are like a perfect opposites-attract love story, minus the romance, and we get to witness that when the head coach puts his rom-communism mentality into effect and offers Roy a job.

Roy Accepts The Coaching Job

While Roy wasn’t all in on the idea of returning to Richmond at first, he eventually warmed up to it, and went to accept Ted’s offer in a big rom-com grand gesture kind of way. He literally ran (as much as he could) to the stadium, got in, and walked up to Ted like he was about to profess his love. However, instead of a love confession like we’d see in one of the best rom-coms, he accepted the job and joined the AFC Richmond staff as a coach.

The Sound Of Music Dance

On Ted and Beard’s last practice, they don’t want a big deal made of it. However, Roy and the team had a different opinion on the matter. Said idea was a full-blown performance of “So Long, Farewell” from The Sound of Music. There was singing, dancing and a massive celebration from the team and fans who were watching at the end, and it was so lovely my heart hurt.

Ted Asks Nate What His Name Is

After running into Nate on the pitch, the kit man leads Ted and Beard up to Rebecca. On that walk, the new head coach asks Nick Mohammed’s character for his name, and he’s baffled. Let’s just say the old AFC Richmond coach was very rude, and he didn’t care much for names. So, it was lovely when the new coaches took an interest in Nate and actually cared about him.

Nate’s Suggestion Box

I know I never expected to see a cute colorful suggestion box being used by a professional football team, but they did that on Ted Lasso. During the second episode, and then throughout the series, Nate the Great did some arts and crafts to make adorable suggestion boxes with his niece for the team to use.

Ted Tells Sam To ‘Be A Goldfish’

Arguably, one of the most uplifting moments in the show came when Ted tells Sam to “be a goldfish,” meaning, after processing his feelings about a bad play, it’s important to move on with a clear mind. It’s sage advice from the head coach, and it’s a line that is present throughout the entire series.

Jamie’s “Poop-eh” Speech

In Season 3 of Ted Lasso, Jamie Tartt became one of the best characters as he moved away from his diva ways and became the player and person Ted always knew he could be. One of his shining moments that proved that came when Ted took the team to the sewers to learn a lesson about letting things flow. When the team was feeling down in the dumps in the locker room, Phil Dunster’s character remembered that teaching and memorably said: “It’s just poop-eh, let it flow.”

Higgins and his family are wholesome goals, and I think we should all aspire to be like them. That is proven throughout the show. However, it’s abundantly clearest in the Season 2 Christmas episode when he invites the team to his home for the holiday, because a lot of them can’t go home to visit their families.

Trent Crimm Reveals The Title Of His Book

In the final moments of Ted Lasso Season 3, Trent gives a draft of his book to Ted and Beard. At the time, it was called “The Lasso Way,” however, Ted left a note asking him to change the title because this story was never about him, it was about the team. So, in the flashforward, we see Trent signing copies of his book, and it’s revealed that he changed the book’s name to “The Richmond Way,” which is such a lovely cap on the journalist’s story.

“Trent Cimm, The Independent,” was a cynical journalist at the start who didn’t believe in Ted Lasso. However, in Season 1, he spent a day with the coach to write a story about him. While he set out to write something that took him down, he ended up realizing why Ted is so special, and he wrote a lovely piece about AFC Richmond’s new coach.

Ted’s Darts Speech

If you want to learn the thesis of Ted Lasso, look no further than the darts scene and the statement “be curious, not judgemental.” At this moment, Ted challenges Rupert to darts under the stipulation that if the coach wins, Rupert won’t sit in the owner’s box as long as Rebecca owns the team. Not only does Ted beat his opponent, but he also gives a great speech about curiosity and kindness, and it’s easily one of the series’ most iconic and wholesome moments.

The Team Spells “Hi Boss” On The Field For Rebecca

“We spelled it, she felt it!” Ted screamed after Rebecca read the message the team had spelled out with their bodies and yelled “Hi!!!” Overall, it’s an adorable moment that is most likely guaranteed to bring a smile to your face.

Rebecca And Ted Deliver Christmas Gifts

During the Christmas episode of Ted Lasso, Rebecca invites Ted to deliver gifts with her. Not only is it a sweet bonding moment between AFC Richmond’s coach and owner, but it’s a fantastic gift for everyone as they played Santa for the day and delivered presents to oh so many children.

Roy Kent is not a hugger, especially when it comes to Jamie Tartt, so it was a massive moment when the coach hugged the player. It all happened after Jamie’s dad came in and was a real jerk, and it was incredible to see such vulnerable support from Roy at that moment.

If you didn’t think Jamie and Roy’s relationship was cemented early in Season 3, you likely were convinced after Phil Dunster’s player attended Pheobe’s birthday party. While he didn’t exactly bring the family-friendly energy to the young girl’s celebration, he was adorable as he chatted with Roy’s niece and quipped back and forth with his foe-turned-friend.

Roy Reads To Phoebe

While Roy comes off as gruff and tough, he’s actually a big softie on the inside, and that’s proven by his relationship with his niece Pheobe. One of the first moments we really get to see the two being adorable together is when Roy reads A Wrinkle In Time to her, which Ted gifted him.

Keeley And Roy Figure Out Why Phoebe Has Bad Breath

In the Christmas episode, Roy and Keeley end up going on a mission to figure out why a boy is being mean to Pheobe and why she has bad breath. It turned out to be a normal condition that a dentist helped fix, and it all ended in a Love, Actually-like moment that culminated in an apology for Pheobe from the mean boy and a sweet moment between the little girl, her uncle and his girlfriend.

The Team Puts The Believe Sign Back Together

In the Season 3 finale of Ted Lasso, the team puts the Believe sign together after Nate ripped it apart. It’s a beautiful moment where the team shows the coach that they’re going to be there for him just as much as he’s been there for them, and it was one of the many lovely ways the series closed out this chapter of AFC Richmond’s story.

Ted and Keeley meet for the first time when he’s covering up a topless photo of her in Jamie’s locker. Then, she “helps” him hang and fix his Believe sign. However, when he tapes it to the wall, it’s still adorably crooked.

Rebecca Yells Out Her Window At Coach Beard About His Dinner Choice

Before Rebecca was actually friends with the coaches, there was a hilarious moment that kind of showed her softening toward them when she yelled at Beard about his dinner choice. When I say yell, I mean it, because she was up in her office and raising her voice so he could hear her down on the field.

Roy Kent Doesn't Use A Whistle

Whistles are commonly used by coaches, but not by Roy Kent, because as he said: "I told you, my lips are sensitive to impure metals and whistles give me mouth hives."

It’s small details like this that make Roy one of the best characters, and his explanation of why he won’t use a whistle is both hilarious and wholesome.

The Dutch Pilot Does Rebecca’s Laundry

During the team’s trip to Amsterdam, Rebecca ends up on a boat with a Dutch pilot. Sweetly, during their evening together, he does Rebecca’s laundry because they met after she fell into the water. Overall, it’s an endearing little storyline that was the wholesome experience the AFC Richmond owner needed.

Colin And Trent’s Discussion On The Stairs

Amsterdam is a wonderful trip for many of AFC Richmond’s team, including Colin. He ends up having a night out with Trent Crimm, and toward the end of it, they have a conversation about Colin being in the closet. It’s a candid moment for the player, and it’s a sweet bonding point between the two guys as he’s able to speak openly and freely with Trent about his sexuality and how everyone might react when they find out.

Rebecca Comforts Keeley After She Loses Her Funding

When Keeley loses her funding for her PR agency, Rebecca is right there to support her. As the ultimate hype woman she lifts her friend up, and at the end of the scene Hannah Waddingham’s character offers to fund KJPR.

Keeley Does A Fake Press Conference For Roy

When Keeley and Roy finally decide to act on their feelings, it results in an adorable press conference where Juno Temple’s character bounces around the media room saying she’s from different variations of an Independent Woman publication while asking her soon-to-be-boyfriend questions.

Isaac And Colin Share A Sweet Moment Playing Video Games After Colin Comes Out

Ultimately, Colin’s coming out story was so thoughtfully handled and nuanced. After coming out to the team, he winds up at Isaac’s house and they play video games together, during that they chat about what just happened and joke about their dating lives, putting a sweet end to an overall lovely story.

Overall, Ted Lasso is a loving show about curiosity and kindness, and it’s full of incredibly wholesome moments that really drive this point home.

You can always count on Hannah Waddingham to keep it real. The Rebecca actress has been very open and enthusiastic about the impact Ted Lasso has had on her life, and her answers to questions about the show tend to be genuine and hilarious. Now, she’s done it again as she got real about those reports regarding Ted Lasso’s potential fourth season.

A few weeks ago, news broke that Jason Sudeikis' Apple TV+ comedy had taken a massive step toward a fourth season. Apparently, Warner Bros. Television picked up options for Waddingham, Brett Goldstein and Jeremy Swift, and were reportedly going to start working on getting more of the original cast next. After that, it was revealed that Phil Dunster allegedly won’t return as Jamie Tartt due to scheduling issues. Now, there are lots of questions about who will come back and if the season is even happening.

Well, the woman who plays AFC Richmond’s owner was asked about all of it by ET, and this is how she responded:

First of all, I’m 99.9% sure “Sudocrem” is Jason Sudeikis, and as many in the Ted Lasso cast and crew have said, the show’s return is contingent on him. Before this news about Season 4 broke, the comedy’s showrunner, Bill Lawrence said its return is up to the SNL alum, as he told Collider that “...whatever Jason feels like doing and whatever his decision is, we’re all down with it.” Waddingham appears to be in the same boat.

She doesn't seem to know anything about Ted Lasso doing a fourth season or spinoff, but if it happens, she’ll be there. In the past, when asked if she’d return as Rebecca, Waddingham has maintained that she would. So, that’s not a question, however, the state of Season 4 is.

When pressed further about the topic and if there were scripts, the Emmy winner said:

Along with The Fall Guy actress, the actor behind Dani Rojas, Cristo Fernández, has addressed the Season 4 reports. He also doesn’t really know if it's actually happening, but he did say that if it does he’d love to return as the happy-go-lucky footballer, because, as Dani says, “Fútbol is life!”

All around, there is a lot that’s still up in the air when it comes to this comedy’s future. The door was certainly left open for AFC Richmond’s stories to continue after Ted Lasso’s Season 3 ending. However, other than that first report that a step had been taken toward a fourth installment, there’s been no other confirmation. So, like Hannah Waddingham, we all also “don’t know” what’s going to happen next.

However, if Season 4 does end up being a go, she made it hilariously clear that she’ll be there. And I imagine that as long as they don’t have scheduling conflicts, the rest of the Ted Lasso cast will happily reprise their roles too.

I’d be willing to bet that the first character that comes to many people’s minds when I say Hannah Waddingham is Rebecca Welton from Ted Lasso. However, before she landed a lead role in one of Apple TV+’s best shows, she was best known for her small but impactful role in Game of Thrones cast as Septa Unella. Now, the two worlds are colliding as the actress explained how the fantasy series’ creators helped her land the gig as AFC Richmond’s owner.

When Waddingham was in the process of auditioning to join the Ted Lasso cast, her old bosses gave her a helping hand. While she was only in Game of Thrones for eight episodes, the “shame nun,” as she called her character, is hard to forget, and she was part of a major moment in the show’s history. So, David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, who co-created the fantasy series, vouched for her when she was in talks for the Apple TV + comedy. She explained to Today:

The actress went on to reveal the subject line of the email GOT’s creator sent, and how they wanted her to have fun, play, and really dive into the world of comedy. She said:

In hindsight, it's as clear as day that the point they made was great. It feels like there’s no one else who could have played Rebecca, and Waddingham got to showcase her range as a performer beautifully on the show. Even Ted Lasso himself, Jason Sudeikis, knew she was the one immediately, as Waddingham recalled what he said to her:

So, let’s all say thank you to Benioff and Weiss for casting her in the first place and helping “everyone else prick up a bit” and notice Waddingham.

However, her time on Game of Thrones was no picnic, as she explained that it was a very intense show to film. So, intense that she ended up with “chronic claustrophobia” because of it. While obviously working in conditions like that was hard, Waddingham speaks highly of her time on GOT, and her bosses clearly loved her too.

Now, even more people adore Waddingham and know just how insanely talented she is because of Ted Lasso, and guess what? She might be coming back. Word on the street is Ted Lasso could come back for a fourth season with the Rebecca actress and her OG co-stars Brett Goldstein and Jeremy Swift allegedly in talks to star. Along with that, rumors are going around that Sudeikis, Brendan Hunt and Juno Temple could also return to their roles as Ted, Coach Beard and Keeley.

So, we may see Hannah Waddingham back in this career-defining role again! However, while we wait to see if she returns as Rebecca, I’ll be streaming Ted Lasso with an Apple TV+ subscription and sitting in awe of the talents the Game of Thrones creators made sure her next bosses knew about.

We've been waiting well over a year to find out if we'll be making our way back to Richmond with Ted Lasso. However, now it seems like we're one massive step closer to a fourth season of Ted Lasso or a spinoff as Warner Bros. Television has reportedly picked up the options for three of the show's OG cast members.

Yes, that's right, Warner Bros. Television reportedly has options on Hannah Waddingham, Brett Goldstein and Jeremy Swift, who were contracted under Equity, the UK’s acting union, Deadline reported.

Along with this report, THR confirmed that Waddingham, Goldstein and Swift have been “approached to reprise” their parts as Rebecca Welton, Roy Kent and Leslie Higgins, respectively. Considering they all play massive roles in the Ted Lasso cast, this is a promising step forward.

After this, it's been reported that the studio will likely be reaching out to the ensemble that's under SAG-AFTRA contracts with expired options. Reportedly, this list would include Jason Sudeikis, Brendan Hunt, and apparently Juno Temple, who play Ted Lasso, Coach Beard and Keeley Jones, respectively. Other regulars including Nick Mohammed (Nathan Shelley), Phil Dunster (Jamie Tartt), Cristo Fernández (Dani Rojas) and Toheeb Jimoh (Sam Obisanya) were not mentioned.

On top of that, it’s been alleged that a writer's room is being assembled, and that if all goes well, production on a new season would start in early 2025. However, it’s important to point out that WBTV and Apple TV+ declined to comment. So, at the moment nothing is fully confirmed, things are just seemingly headed in the right direction.

Since Ted Lasso’s Season 3 finale, the ensemble has been asked about what’s next, and most have been vocal about being down to return. Hannah Waddingham said she’d “always entertain” the idea of coming back as Rebecca, and Juno Temple said she’d return if the whole team was involved. Heck, even Jason Sudeikis has said there’s potential for more. So, it felt like there was an optimistic outlook on this show’s future.

The report notes that this news is not a green light, it’s simply a step in the right direction toward a fourth season. Ted Lasso Season 4 will also be dependent on budget approval and scheduling, as many of the actors in the cast have other projects they are working on.

Ultimately, the fate of this show hinges on Jason Sudeikis. Multiple people involved with the show, as well as the studio who makes it, have been clear that if Season 4 were to happen, it would be on his call. Recently, Bill Lawrence, who co-created the series and served as showrunner, spoke about Ted Lasso’s future with ScreenRant, saying:

So, while this casting update is a super promising step forward, let’s not get our hopes up until the mustachioed man himself says more story is ago.

When the dark gray robes and light gray head coverings come out on a Game of Thrones show, it’s hard not to be immediately and viscerally swept back to the infamous “Shame” scene. Hannah Waddingham wearing that outfit as Septa Unella as she walked a nude Cersei through the streets of King’s Landing is hard to forget. So, it made sense that she popped into the comments to hilariously point out that Emma D’Arcy wore the same septa outfit in Episode 3 of House of the Dragon Season 2.

For some context, in Episode 3 of House of the Dragon, Rhaenyra snuck back to King’s Landing to talk with Alicent. In an effort to prevent an all-out war, she took a risk going back, but she wore a septa uniform, which disguised her and made her almost unrecognizable because you couldn’t see her long silver Targaryen hair. HOTD’s Instagram posted about this massive moment by using a photo of Emma D’Arcy in the infamous costume, as you can see below:

Of course, seeing D’Arcy in this outfit took me right back to the days when Hannah Waddingham was in the Game of Thrones cast, and the Ted Lasso actress had a similar reaction, as she commented on the post:

I must say, she’s right. That is her outfit, which is unforgettable after you see the shocking Game of Thrones moments between her and Cersei. While the gruesome GOT deaths are truly terrible, I think this “shame” scene is one of the hardest moments to watch in the fantasy series. Plus, shooting Waddingham’s storyline was no walk in the park either.

The Emmy-winning actress has explained that she liked that her character looked like she’d “been dug up,” and she’s been open about how hard her Thrones scenes were to film. She even explained how being “actually waterboarded” during a scene on the show led to her having “chronic claustrophobia.”

Plus, while Hannah Waddingham is better known for Ted Lasso these days, her time on Game of Thrones does not go unforgotten. In fact, that “Shame” scene has led to wild fan interactions over the years.

So, I think Waddingham’s passionate and hilarious comment was warranted. However, I also loved how they used the costume in House of the Dragon, and it was cool to see it utilized in such a prominent way. Rhaenyra’s big move to approach Alicent was a massive deal, and I thought her sneaking into the church in the nun’s outfit was the perfect way to do it. Plus, it was a fantastic nod back to the show that started it all.

Overall, this interaction brought me so much joy. I love Hannah Waddingham so much, and it’s always fun to see her talking about her time on Game of Thrones. To see her as Septa Unella in Seasons 5 and 6 of GOT and to watch D’Arcy in House of the Dragon, you can stream both series on Max.

The characters in Mission: Impossible movies are always flying off to exotic locations and doing incredible things. It looks like quite an amazing life to be a character in the franchise, but it sounds like it’s equally incredible to be an actor playing those characters. Hannah Waddingham has spoken about the experience of spending several days on an aircraft carrier, and while she could be talking about making a Top Gun movie with Tom Cruise as easily as making a Mission: Impossible movie, it sounds pretty wild either way.

Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part Two details are few and far between, but we know that Hannah Waddingham is part of the Mission: Impossible 8 cast in an unknown role. ET caught up with the actress whle promoting The Garfield Movie (which opens on Friday), and she was asked about her role in the film. While she obviously couldn’t say much specifically, she called the experience “gorgeous and inspirational” as she spent nearly a week on board an aircraft carrier and living among members of the U.S. Navy. She said…

Since we know that Top Gun 3 is a movie in active development, maybe somebody should write a role for Hannah Waddingham. She clearly loved her time on board an aircraft carrier and one assumes that at least some of the next Top Gun movie will require the cast to be on board one as well. Waddingham has also sung the praises of working with Tom Cruise, so she'd almost certainly be up for it again. 

We had previously been told that Mission: Impossible was set to borrow a page from Top Gun and do some significant filming on board the U.S.S. George H.W. Bush aircraft carrier. In March of last year, it was reported Cruise had traveled to the ship, though what exactly happened there or how the scenes would fit into the larger story of Dead Reckoning were unclear.

At the time we hadn’t even seen Dead Reckoning Part One so we had no idea how the scene on the aircraft carrier would work., Now we at least have some ideas. The Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One ending gave us Ethan Hunt on the quest for a rogue AI, which was sitting at the bottom of an ocean. The aircraft carrier could be a stop on the way to try and get to it, once the team learns where it is.  

With Dead Reckoning Part Two still a year away, it will still be some time before we get a chance to see how this story ends, but the cast is certainly getting us excited. 

Yesterday, Sam Rubin, an incredible entertainment journalist who was a staple of KTLA 5 News in Los Angeles, died of a heart attack at the age of 64. He had been with the news channel since 1991, and he was beloved by viewers, journalists and the artists he interviewed. Now, as we mourn the death of the beloved reporter, many have taken to social media to pay tribute to him, including Ryan Reynolds, Hannah Waddingham, Ryan Seacrest and more. 

As a staple in Los Angeles and the world of entertainment journalism, Rubin had interviewed so many celebrities across his decades-long career, and he was adored by many. For example, Ted Lasso cast member and Emmy-winner Hannah Waddingham took to X to share her tribute for the reporter, noting how much she loved chatting with him during interviews:

Ryan Reynolds shared a similar sentiment on X. Actors participate in an intense number of interviews to promote their projects – which is something Reynolds is about to do for his upcoming project Deadpool and Wolverine – and it can be really difficult and repetitive. However, as the actor pointed out, chatting with Rubin was always a delight:

Ryan Seacrest, a great interviewer himself and the incoming Wheel of Fortune host, posted a sweet and personal tribute for Rubin on Instagram, noting the impact the reporter had on his life and career, he wrote:

Director and actor Ron Howard reposted an obituary about Rubin on X, and he shared his own tribute for the reporter. The A Beautiful Mind director made sure to note the impact the journalist left on Los Angeles, writing:

Mayim Bialik did too, as someone who was part of  Blossom and The Big Bang Theory casts, she’s been interviewed by him many times. However, as an LA local, she also explained that she loved that her mom could tune into the local news to watch his interviews, posting on X:

Overall, this outpouring of love simply confirms what we already knew: Sam Rubin is and always will be a legend, and he will be dearly missed. It’s a true tragedy that he won’t appear on KTLA 5 as it continues to air on the 2024 TV schedule, however, his legacy will live on forever.

While Ted Lasso's final season upset some fans, the series did manage to tie up most of the loose ends. Ted found himself back in the United States, coaching his son’s soccer team, and the AFC Richmond team was stronger than ever. Also, Rebecca Welton found herself presented with a new business venture while also potentially being reuniting with her missed love connection, the Dutchman. While some viewers saw the ending -- specifically Rebecca’s -- as a happily ever after one, Hannah Waddingham weighed in with some thoughts on her characters fate that I can’t help but agree with.

Rebecca’s love life has always been a hot-button issue when it comes to fans of one of the best Apple TV+ shows. Many believed that she would end up with Ted by the end of the series (a plot point that was intentionally teased according to a director). Additionally, some rooted for her romance with Sam, while others wanted to see her connect more with the mysterious Dutchman. As outspoken as the fans are, there is one person who has even louder opinions about what Rebecca should and shouldn’t do and that’s Hannah Waddingam — the woman responsible for bringing our favorite AFC Richmond team owner to life. 

The Emmy winner recently sat down with People magazine where she opened up about what she thinks Rebecca is up to. Despite romance playing a huge role in her character’s life in the final season, the actress doesn’t think she’s found the one just yet, saying: 

With so much of the final season of the hit dramedy revolving around Rebecca’s love life now that she had finally moved on from her divorce, it might seem odd for the actress to be so adamant that her character is still single. Personally, I think it makes perfect sense, and I’m glad she said something. 

Rebecca is not a character who needs romance in her life to be successful, and she proved that over the course of three seasons. To reduce her character to simply being someone else’s love interest is a disservice to the incredible woman she is. Not only that, but it diminishes the incredible friendships she built with Ted and Keely Jones, amongst others. Personally, I love the idea of Rebecca happily enjoying time to herself and getting to know herself without feeling pressured to figure it out for a man. 

Even though I can admit to being an active participant in the shipping discourse surrounding Rebecca’s character, I’d much rather the focus remain on the professional exploits of the character moving forward. After all, Season 3 did end with Keeley approaching Rebecca about creating a women’s football league. Personally, I'd love to hear more the actress’ thoughts about that.

Perhaps, the reason we don't is because there really is a fourth season in the works or, my personal favorite take, that Ted Lasso is going to get a spin-off at some point in the future. In the meantime though, I just hope that Hannah Waddingham gets more questions about Rebecca's career than her love life. Besides, the real love life fans want to know more about is whether or not the Roy-Keeley-Jamie love triangle ever worked itself out.

Masterminded by SNL alum and comedy legend Jason Sudeikis, Ted Lasso proved itself as a one-of-a-kind comedy over the course of its three seasons. The characters all had their own senses of humor, and the beating heart of the show revolved around the titular character’s optimism and unique outlook on life. When you mix all of that together you end up with an endless list of wonderfully funny quotes from the show, however, today we’re only going to go through 32 of them. 

“If that’s a joke, I love it. If not, can’t wait to unpack that with you later.” -Ted Lasso

After Ted meets Rebecca and she says that “Ms. Welton” is her “father,” Ted was not quite sure how to take his new boss’s comment. So, with his Southern charm, he responded in the only way he knew how: funnily addressing both possible outcomes of Rebecca’s quippy line. 

“I never know how to react when a grown man beatboxes in front of me.” -Keeley Jones

I don’t think there’s much like meeting someone for the first time and having them beatbox at you. In the first episode of Ted Lasso, that’s exactly what happened to Keeley when she met the new coach. Of course, it got even funnier when you realized that he only started beatboxing because she had asked if he tweeted, and he responded by saying no, but he could do this.

“I always thought tea was going to taste like hot brown water. And do you know what? I was right. It’s horrible.” -Ted Lasso

Now, Ted might be known for his poignant life lessons, optimistic outlook, and kindness. However, one thing he’s not afraid to diss is tea. The man can’t get behind the beloved hot beverage, and he’s not afraid to make his grievances known, as he did in this fantastic quote. 

“I never know how to react when a grown man does the Carlton in front of me.” -Roy Kent

At one point, Ted was attempting to prove to Roy that Alfonso Ribeiro is the “greatest physical comedian of the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries,” because of how iconic the Carlton dance is. In response, Brett Goldstein’s character reacted the same way Keeley reacted to Ted's beatboxing, which was warranted and very funny. 

“It's just a group of people who care, Roy. Not unlike folks at a hip-hop concert whose hands are not in the air.” -Ted Lasso

When Roy learned about AFC Richmond’s love-life support group, The Diamond Dogs, he was disgusted, as you’d expect from the gumbly guy. However, Ted’s response made the whole interaction even better when he likened the crew of coaches – and Higgins – to the group of people at a hip-hop concert who aren’t waving their hands in the air like they just don’t care. 

“I forget how skittish elderly people could be 'cause of the war.” -Jamie Tartt

There’s a very nice moment in Season 3 where Jamie tries to hug Roy and fails. Despite Phil Dunster and Brett Goldstein sharing a deep love and friendship in real life, on screen, it takes a while for their characters to warm up to each other. And that’s greatly illustrated by Roy saying Jamie came at him “too fast,” and the footballer responded by making fun of his coach’s age. 

"I believe in Communism. Rom-communism, that is. If Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan can go through some heartfelt struggles and still end up happy, then so can we." -Ted Lasso

In the episode “Rainbow,” Ted tries to woo Roy back to AFC Richmond by taking inspiration from some of the best rom-coms. While Roy hates every second of it, it does work, proving that the coach’s belief in Rom-communism is real, and it works. 

“Coach, I’m me. Why would I want to be anything else?” -Jamie Tartt

Back in the day, before I liked Jamie Tartt, I was typically quite annoyed by him. However, when asked if he’d rather be a lion or a panda, he responded with this genius line which gave him a few points. However, I didn’t fully come around to the self-assured footballer until Season 3. 

“Coach, I got a feeling we’re not in Kansas anymore. Hey, I’ve never said that while not in Kansas before.” -Ted Lasso

We love a Wizard of Oz reference, and since Ted and Coach Beard are, in fact, from Kansas, this line was perfect for when they touched down in London and went to see the Tower Bridge.

“I would like to see a tulip…No, no, just one tulip. An entire field would be incredibly overwhelming.” -Dani Rojas

While Jamie and Roy were off riding bikes and Ted was on a spiritual journey with barbecue sauce, the rest of the team was trying to figure out what to do with their time in Amsterdam. Dani’s suggestion was to see one tulip. No, not a field of tulips, that would be “incredibly overwhelming.” He simply wanted to see a single tulip. 

"Well, yeah, you got Ronaldo and the fellow who bends it like himself." -Ted Lasso

During his first press conference, the journalists all found out Ted wasn’t exactly football savvy. While he knows American football, soccer was not his thing. So, when the conference broke into chaos, one reporter asked the coach if he could even name a footballer, and Jason Sudeikis’ character responded in a very funny, yet clueless, way. 

“Does my face look like it’s in the mood for shape-based jokes?”  -Roy Kent

You know, I don’t think Roy is ever in the “mood for shape-based jokes.” However, I’m happy he clarified. What makes this line even funnier is it was Goldstein’s character’s response to Ted telling him that he was stuck in “life’s most complicated shape,” a love triangle. 

“I need to reapply my lip liner. Men don’t know what that means and women understand it requires time and focus.” -Rebecca Welton

When Rebecca told Keeley about a code word for when you need to use the bathroom, she not only gave people great life advice, she also provided us with a very smart and hilarious line. 

“I told you, my lips are sensitive to impure metals and whistles give me mouth hives.” -Roy Kent

“WHISTLE!” is what our favorite guy Roy Kent yells every time he needs to get the team's attention, because he doesn’t want to use a real whistle. The reasoning, you might ask? Well, it’s because he’s “sensitive to impure metals,” obviously. 

“Remember, it’s just poop-eh. Let it flow.” -Jamie Tartt

Phil Dunster said his favorite word to say as Jamie was “poop-eh,” and how could it not when it’s part of a brilliant line like this? On top of this being a turning point for the character, it was also a funny line that highlighted Jamie’s Mancunian accent in a fun and silly way. 

“This isn’t black. This is dark heather charcoal.” -Roy Kent

Roy Kent is not one to wear color, however, never say he wears just black. The guy is a fan of nuanced dark color palettes, as illustrated by this quote. 

"One more person says something that me and Beard don't understand, I'm gonna have one of my son's classic temper tantrums.” -Ted Lasso

Out of context, this quote is funny because seeing a grown man throw a fit like an 8-year-old is quite amusing. However, in context, it gets even better. That’s because Ted gets all riled up because the team was talking about the cursed treatment room and he has no idea about the lore.

“Howdy, y’all cowboys. My name is Ted Lasso and I’m from Kansas. Pow! Pow! Pow!” -Roy Kent

Roy doesn’t strike me as a man who does impressions, and he proved that when he attempted, and failed, at impersonating Ted. The begrudging player was working very hard to not like his new coach, and at one point he was so fed up with him that he did this wild impersonation of him at Keeley. 

“Caesar you later.” -Higgins

When Ted slams back into a room to recognize a pun, you know you’ve made it. That’s exactly what happened to Higgins at this moment when he mentioned that he was getting Caesar salads with the coach, and when Ted started leaving he quipped the brilliant line above. 

"Well, fellas, if you're looking for a pep talk from me, you're in trouble. 'Cause I'm like Michael Flatley at 11:59 p.m. on St. Patrick's Day, I'm tapped out." -Ted Lasso

Long-winded puns and jokes are Ted’s thing, and this is a fabulous example of that. Not to mention, he went out with a bang because this was how he started his last speech as the coach of AFC Richmond during the Season 3 finale of Ted Lasso. However, while he claimed to be “tapped out,” he really wasn’t, because, at halftime of this match, he gave a lovely speech to his team. 

“God bless me, everyone.” -Jamie Tartt

You have to give Jamie his props for having so much self-confidence. While it’s a bit much at times, it’s also hilarious, especially when we’re graced with lines like this one from Season 2’s holiday special. 

“Football is life!” -Dani Rojas

Coming in hot, running onto the pitch, human golden retriever Dani Rojas bolted into his introduction singing, yelling his name, running in circles and enthusiastically saying the line that would become his catchphrase: “Football is life!” 

"I do. But more importantly, I think they need to believe in themselves. You know?" -Ted Lasso

While they actually deal with a curse and maybe ghosts later in Season 1, metaphorically speaking, Rebecca asked Ted early on if he believes in ghosts. Then, in the most on-brand way, the coach responded by saying he does, and more importantly, those spirits need “to believe in themselves.” 

“Oh, god. Did we really make Michael Jordan cry?” -Rebecca Welton

Listen, what happened to the late greyhound Earl is not a laughing matter. However, the damage control afterward was quite funny, and as Rebecca started coming to terms with the PR disaster that was ahead of them she recited this great line about the iconic Michael Jordan crying meme.

“No Fight Club!” -Coach Beard

After AFC Richmond had a rough game, the team got a little aggressive with each other. When Jamie and Roy started to fight, Ted broke it up, and when he asked Beard what the first rule of his fight club was, Brendan Hunt’s assistant coach yelled the slightly modified Fight Club quote above. 

"I always feel so bad for the cows, but you gotta do it; otherwise, they get lost. That was a branding joke. If we were in Kansas right now, I'd just be sitting here waiting for you to finish laughing." -Ted Lasso

When Rebecca told Ted she had to go to a branding meeting, the coach made a joke that would have gone over so well with a group of farmers. However, with the owner of the team…not so much. Honestly, the joke bombing and Ted’s explanation after made it even better.

“Old people are so wise. They're like tall Yodas.” -Jamie Tartt

After Jamie was voted off a reality show, he was a bit lost and he went to Ted to ask for a place back on that team. During that conversation, the beloved bartender, Mae, gave the player some advice, and he gave her this very odd yet sweet compliment. 

“Hi. Keeley Jones, The Independent Woman.” -Keeley Jones

Roy and Keeley are so sweet together, and one of their silliest yet genuine moments came when she forced him to do a press conference for only her, and she bounced around the room slating herself as Keeley Jones from some sort of Independent Woman publication and asking him questions about their first date. 

"You beating yourself up is like Woody Allen playing the clarinet. I don't wanna hear it. All right?" -Ted Lasso

Ted Lasso, king of getting people to think positively and highly of themselves, really came through for Roy with this honestly wild, yet impactful line. I write this because, yes, I never want to hear Woody Allen play the clarinet, and it does illustrate just how awful beating yourself up sounds and is. 

“You got the boot from putting boots in the boot.” -Coach Beard

Ted and Beard love to give each other little riddles, and after Ted said:

Coach Beard responded with the line above which is redundant in the funniest and most clever way. 

“That Rebecca is an intimidating, very tall woman. I mean, the minute she locked eyes with me, I started sweating.” - Keeley Jones

Back before Keeley and Rebecca were besties, Juno Temple’s character was both in awe of and intimidated by Hannah Waddingham’s. Who can blame her? She is indeed a “very tall woman,” who can be intimidating when she needs to, and it’s one of the reasons why we love her so much. 

"All right, fellas, you gotta remember, your body is like day-old rice. If it ain't warmed up properly, something real bad could happen." -Ted Lasso

This is maybe the best and most creative workout advice I’ve read. We all likely know what day-old rice tastes like if it’s cold, and the answer is bad and weird. Well if your body is not stretched and warmed up before a physical activity you will likely be bad and weird at whatever it is you’re doing. 

From Ted’s cheesy and sincere advice to Roy and Jamie’s snarky and hysterical comments, and so much more, the funniest quotes from Ted Lasso really run the gamut and clearly show why this comedy is so beloved. 

It’s been almost a year since Ted Lasso’s emotional Season 3 finale seemingly wrapped up the critically acclaimed show. While production is now done, much of the cast of the Apple TV+ sitcom have moved onto other gigs. For her part, Hannah Waddingham landed her follow-up role, which is the lead part in a new Prime Video series with Octavia Spencer. She may be taking on new roles, but she still thinks fondly about her time on the comedy. On that note, she recalled working on the production, specifically explaining why approval from co-star Jason Sudeikis (and his mustache) meant so much to her.

The British actress portrayed Rebeca Welton on the fan-favorite series, which was co-created by Sudeikis. While Sudeikis was one of her scene partners, he was technically also somewhat her boss, and she was apparently working overtime to make sure that she had his approval. The actress tells TODAY that hearing Sudeikis’ approval underneath his mustache was really all she wanted because of how much the series meant to him. She recalled those instances, saying:

Of course, the Saturday Night Live alum wouldn't be the only one on the cast who would have some thoughts when it comes to approving a specific joke or style. Ted Lasso was definitely a unique series from a BTS standpoint, as multiple people on the cast were also members of the writers’ room, including Brendan Hunt, Brett Goldstein and Phoebe Walsh. The series was very much Jason Sudeikis’ brainchild, though, and Hannah Waddingham knows how special it was to him:

Ted Lasso Season 3 wasn’t billed as the final stretch of episodes early on, as the show’s future at that time was uncertain. Despite that, Hannah Waddingham admitted that she still wanted to make sure that her co-star was on set during filming so she could hear his thoughts (through that A+ mustache). It just shows how much she respects Jason Sudeikis and how much the show means to her as well:

The cast of Ted Lasso really seems to be close (and have matching tracksuits), which makes the show’s end even more devastating. Jason Sudeikis not only cared for the series but his co-stars, and the fact that Hannah Waddingham genuinely wanted his approval really says a lot. Of course, something isn't beautiful because it last but because it happened at all. Waddingham, Sudeikis and co. now seem pleased with the work they were able to accomplish, and they should be proud. While Waddingham may no longer hear Sudeikis' notes while he has that sweet mustache, she'll likely continue to get praise from fans for her role as Rebecca for years to come.

Even though Ted Lasso is no more, Apple TV+ subscribers can still stream all three seasons of it now. Anyone in search of new shows to watch should also take a look at the 2024 TV schedule.

Right before she hosted the Olivier Awards, Hannah Waddingham didn’t mince her words when she called out a paparazzi for asking her to “show me leg” as she was taking red carpet photos. The Ted Lasso star quickly responded by saying “Don’t be a dick” before walking away, and now she’s sharing what happened after that interaction, and I’m pleased to report that this story has a happy ending. 

For context, Hannah Waddingham was taking photos before the award show she was hosting, and one photographer asked her to “show me leg.” She had the following response (via @odeiotedlasso on X) to the request, and after she said this she walked away from the situation:

That video went viral, and as many complimented the way Waddingham handled the situation, the show went on and she hosted the Oliviers, which is the West End’s theater awards. 

Now, a few days after the award show, which went very well by the way, Hannah Waddingham appeared on BBC’s The One Show to chat about it all. When asked about what happened with the photographer the actress gave a positive update, explaining:

Waddingham briefly explained that after this situation she got an apology from the photographer, and she clearly stated that she’s moving on from it. The actress has never been one to hold back her feelings – just take a look at her candid comments about filming Game of Thrones or her defense of Tom Cruise and the Mission: Impossible controversy – and she was honest with both the photographer and those who asked her about it. 

She then turned her attention to the award show and just how well it went, saying:

You heard her, the takeaway from this should be about how well the Oliviers went, not what happened on the red carpet; that issue has been resolved. And she’s right, that show went swimmingly, as you can see just by watching her opening performance:

Along with shifting our focus to how fabulous the show was, let’s also shine a light on Hannah Waddingham’s exciting projects coming soon. On the 2024 movie schedule, she’ll be playing a role in The Fall Guy cast alongside Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt. The 49-year-old actress served as host at The Olivier Awards at London’s Royal Albert Hall this past Sunday. As expected with such circumstances, she posed for photos amid the festivities. It was during that time that someone made the aforementioned request for her to reveal a bit of leg. The Emmy winner seemed surprised by the remark and noted that the photog wouldn’t ask a man to do the same. Her initial assertion isn’t wrong, to be fair, as it’s not common that a male star gets asked to show off a part of their anatomy while appearing at an event like this one. It’s clear, based on her reaction, that she’s not here for any kind of comments like the “leg” request. What’s also not surprising is that after the exchange, the fan-favorite star seemingly kept it moving like nothing happened. From what I’ve seen of her public persona, I’ve always believed Hannah Waddingham to be a no-nonsense person, and her response here further cements that notion for me.

Throughout her career, Hannah Waddingham has shown that she’s not one to suffer fools. She has no problem standing up for herself and, in doing so, she’s ultimately defended other people as well. That was the case in 2023 when Waddingham stood up for Tom Cruise when he faced media scrutiny, saying she has “no time for anyone saying anything about him.” Earlier this year, Waddingham – who worked with Cruise on the eighth Mission: Impossible film – recalled being “fractionally vilified for saying something nice” about the actor. All in all, she found the situation to be “hilarious.”

Any blowback aside, the Hocus Pocus 2 star seems to be thriving right now, and she was certainly living her best life at The Olivier Awards. Here’s what we know about The Fall Guy: we’re going to see some seriously incredible stunts and Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt’s chemistry is off the charts. The Fall Guy trailer has also shown how intense the shoot was because of all the action; however, at one point weather turned out to be a factor in that too. That was made clear when the La La Land actor told a story about a major rainstorm that came through the set, and you know who was totally unbothered by it? Emily Blunt. And Ryan Gosling’s reaction to it all was A+. 

While chatting with Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show about the stunt work in The Fall Guy, Gosling also spoke about his lovely co-star and on-screen love interest Emily Blunt. This is the first time the two have worked together, and the Barbie star made a point that she is “unflappable, she can’t be flapped.” Complimenting that she can do anything she puts her mind to, he also hilariously noted that she’s “too chill,” which he learned when there was a “kind of monsoon” on set. Telling a truly wild story, Ryan Gosling said:

He’s right, based on this story “she can’t be flapped.” 

What makes it even more impressive is Hannah Waddingham confirmed that this storm was indeed very intense by quote tweeting Gosling’s appearance on The Tonight Show. On the talk show, he had noted that he may have been “overexaggerating” the monsoon situation, but his fellow Fall Guy cast member explained that what Emily Blunt stayed calm through was indeed very extreme weather:

Isn’t that wild? I’ve been in some pretty bad rain storms, but never one where things start floating away. If I were in one, I hope I’d react like Emily Blunt did, or at least pretend to be as cool as she is.

While this rainstorm will not be seen on screen, there will be tons of intense action in The Fall Guy that might make me feel as stressed as Ryan Gosling felt during moments like this and the time he had to fall off a building even though he’s scared of heights (he told that story on The Tonight Show too, which you can see above).  

The Fall Guy’s premiere on the 2024 movie schedule is still a ways away because it hits theaters on May 3. However, great reactions to Ryan Gosling and David Leitch’s film are already rolling in, and it feels like this flick could wind up on the list of the best action movies. Plus, it’s clear this cast had a blast making this film, rainstorms and all. Overall, this project should be a blast, and learning about what went into making it and the camaraderie among the ensemble makes it even better!

Before Hannah Waddingham was best known for playing the beloved football club owner Rebecca Welton on Ted Lasso, she played Septa Unella, the infamous woman who said “shame,” on Game of Thrones. Now, as the actress takes on massive new projects, like the 2024 movie schedule’s The Fall Guy, she’s reflecting on the show that helped her get her start. However, that start was no walk in the park, and she got real about how working on GOT unexpectedly impacted her. 

While her role in the Game of Thrones cast didn’t involve a ton of screentime, Waddingham’s character sure did pack a punch. Arguably, harder to watch than some of the more gruesome GOT deaths, the actress was involved in Cersei’s infamous naked walk of shame, plus her character got tortured later in the series. Speaking about her time on the acclaimed fantasy series on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, the actress detailed just how hard it was to work on that show, and the unexpected impact it had on her:

Continuing on with her story, Hannah Waddingham noted that the cast and crew’s commitment to the show is what made it so good. However, that commitment also made the series incredibly difficult to film. Much like Maisie Williams, who hurt herself with her sword and recalled just how intense filming The Long Night battle was, the Ted Lasso actress candidly explained the battle scars she got from Thrones, saying:

I can totally understand why she has claustrophobia, that sounds so scary. As I said, making GOT is no picnic, and Waddingham proved that again by continuing her story and describing an interaction she had with another person who had been filming a strenuous scene on the beloved fantasy show:

While this sounds scary, and I totally get why it impacted her, Hannah Waddingham has also been clear about the positive impacts of Game of Thrones. She’s said she loved that her character looked like she’d “been dug up,” and she said she does love interacting with fans about Unella and the show. Plus, as she told Colbert, everyone on the series was so committed to making the best show, and she was ready and willing to give it her all:

Even though it sounds like Hannah Waddingham’s time on Game of Thrones was incredibly difficult, and she ended up with claustrophobia because of it, she obviously loved working on the show, as she told Colbert.

She’s also shared that candid and infectious positive energy about her other projects too, like Ted Lasso and her next film The Fall Guy. Speaking of The Fall Guy, hopefully, as we get closer to the action flick’s May 3 release, we’ll get more behind-the-scenes stories like this one that are both raw and funny. 

We’ve always known that the cast of Ted Lasso takes the statement “Richmond ‘til we die” seriously. However, at the SAG Awards, they took it to a whole new level. While they didn’t take home any awards at the actors’ union award show, they did dance the night away in matching tracksuits, proving that they won the after-party. 

Now, while this crew didn’t win any hardware at the SAG Awards for Season 3 of Ted Lasso – those all went to The Bear as it won Ensemble, Male Actor and Female Actor in a Comedy Series – that didn’t stop them from having a blast. 

Overall, the cast of one of Apple TV+’s best shows was up for Comedy Series Ensemble, Jason Sudeikis and Brett Goldstein were nominated for Male Actor in a Comedy Series and Hannah Waddingham was nominated for Female Actor in a Comedy Series. 

While this crew has tons of awards, with all three folks named here being Emmy winners, The Bear has been dominating the awards season. Considering the 75th Emmy winners list – which also featured The Bear taking home the majority of the comedy awards – it seemed obvious that they would sweep the SAG Awards too. 

So, after the entire cast of Ted Lasso got dressed up for the ceremony, they changed into their comfy matching Nike tracksuits to party the night away and celebrate their third (and possibly final) season. Let's just say it was epic. 

As you can see in the photo at the top of this story, when I say everyone, I mean virtually everyone from this cast was at the awards. Our favorite bar patrons and its owner Mae were there. Basically, every player from the team was in attendance. And of course, the series’ leads -- including Sudeikis, Waddingham, Goldstein, Brendan Hunt, Juno Temple and Jeremy Swift -- were rocking the blue tracksuits too. 

Notably, Phil Dunster, Toheeb Jimoh, Nick Mohammed and James Lance were missing. However, the Jamie actor was likely not there because he was working as a SAG Awards Ambassador that night, and the Nate performer expressed his disappointment about missing the evening on X. I bet they all wish they could have been repping Richmond at the SAG Awards with the entire cast. 

Along with the crew wearing matching tracksuits, they also all rocked white or red sneakers, and most of them wore white undershirts – except Brett Goldstein, who wore a black T-shirt, which is very Roy Kent of him. 

This cast had a blast partying it up after the SAG Awards, and it makes sense, because, for all we know, this might be the last time we see them all together. At the time of this writing, the future of AFC Richmond is still unknown. The ending of Season 3 was 100% the conclusion of this journey we’ve been on. However, some doors were left slightly open in case a Ted Lasso spinoff or Season 4 comes to fruition. 

While we likely won’t see the Ted Lasso crew together again on the 2024 TV schedule, it was so fun to see them go out with a bang while wearing matching tracksuits. Talk about a dream team!

Hannah Waddingham has been publicly effusive with her praise of Tom Cruise before. She previously called her Mission: Impossible 8 co-star one of the "loveliest and encouraging" people she'd ever met, an adulation that seemingly ruffled some feathers. However, it's looking like a little backlash isn't stopping the Ted Lasso actress from backing the movie star. 

Waddingham joins Tom Cruise in the upcoming eighth installment in the Mission: Impossible film series, but though the Brit has remained tight-lipped on both the plot and her character (director Christopher McQuarrie did give fans a little sneak peek last March), she was positively gushing about her megawatt co-star. She told Hollywood Life about working alongside "daredevil" Cruise: 

She also shared how she is looking forward to playing a character different from Rebecca Welton, Ted Lasso's boss on the acclaimed, same-named Apple TV comedy series, a role that's won Waddingham a Primetime Emmy and a Critics' Choice Award. In her words:

Waddingham undoubtedly got a crash course at throwing oneself into a role opposite Cruise, who is known for putting his body on the line by performing many of his own stunts, including that record-breaking underwater sequence in Mission Impossible—Rogue Nation and that high-flying motorcycle jump in Dead Reckoning. 

Knowing this Ethan Hunt-led universe, there will be even more shocking stunts where those are concerned when Mission: Impossible 8 is released. I'm certainly excited to see Hannah Waddingham get in on all the daredevil action alongside Tom Cruise. 

Alas, the spy action thriller won't be on the 2024 movie schedule, as pandemic-related delays have pushed its theatrical release back to May 2025. In the meantime, while you wait, you can revisit every previous Mission: Impossible movie with a Paramount+ subscription. 

Abbott Elementary Season 3 is finally almost here and, with school back in session soon, fans might be in for a ride. The ABC sitcom scored six nominations at the 75th Emmy Awards, with creator and lead Quinta Brunson taking home the award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series. Many actors have expressed interest in appearing on the series, including Ted Lasso’s Hannah Waddingham and Yellowjackets star Christina Ricci. Now, Brunson is now sharing her thoughts on all of the cool requests.

The previous season featured notable guest stars like, Leslie Odom Jr. and  Taraji P. Henson, who earned an Emmy nomination for her performance. Also appearing on the show was Emmy winner Ayo Edebiri, who has a lot of notable projects. As it stands, the show has added multiple cast members to its third season. Even though the cast seems stacked, there's always the possibility more will join in on the fun. When Quinta Brunson spoke to the wide array of people who now want to appear on the mockumentary series, she seemed flattered and weighed in on why she thinks so many of them want to join up. As she told ET:

Considering Abbott Elementary is one of the funniest shows you can stream on Hulu, it’s not so surprising that so many actors have wanted to be on the series, even if for just a short stint. The series definitely has the ability to bring on many different characters, whether it be through family members, parents of students, staff members and more. The series' lead actress and EP also made a good point in that the show gives some stars an opportunity to appear in a project that's accessible for their kids. Shows like Ted Lasso and Yellowjackets are great, but they're not exactly suitable for the little ones, after all.

Since the series will only be getting 14 episodes this season due to the dual Hollywood strikes, it might be hard to wrangle in some big guest stars, whether it be because of scheduling conflicts or storyline flow. However, that doesn’t mean it couldn't happen. I'm intrigued to see who will be guest starring on this season, and hopefully, actors like Hannah Waddingham and Christina Ricci will get their wishes.

Regardless of whether they're cast, there's still much to look forward to on the upcoming third season of Abbott Elementary. For instance, following the events of the Season 2 finale that fans went wild over, they'll be able to look forward to see more of Janine and Gregory’s blossoming relationship. That's something you'll definitely want to keep an eye on in addition to any potential high-profile guest stars.

Abbott Elementary is quite the commodity these days, what with the six nominations the ABC sitcom recently scored at the 75th annual Emmy Awards, earning an "Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series" trophy for its star and creator Quinta Brunson. And it's looking like all of that much-deserved acclaim hasn't just revived the idea of network sitcoms for viewers, but also for Brunson's fellow actors, many of whom have made their interest in guest-starring on the hit comedy publicly known. 

Abbott Elementary Season 3 is in the works, and it's ready to premiere on the 2024 TV schedule on ABC, Wednesday, February 7 (you can also stream with a Hulu subscription). However, that doesn't mean A-list Abbott fans like Hannah Waddingham and Christina Ricci as well as Abbott cast members like Lisa Ann Walter aren't campaigning for more famous faces to show up at school. 

Hannah Waddingham Wants To Guest Star On Abbott 

The Ted Lasso cast's leading lady Hannah Waddingham has hilariously spent much of her recent awards season pitching a potential "unrequited love" storyline between her and Quinta Brunson's character Janine Teagues. (In fairness, Hannah, Janine already has more than enough romance on her plate with Gregory, played by Tyler James Williams.)

Waddingham discussed her Abbott Elementary thirst with ET while at this year's Emmys Award, confirming that she had been publicly begging Brunson to put her in an episode. The British actress even joked that she didn't need a speaking part in the comedy and that she could simply "stand behind a curtain while she's doing something."

Brunson was previously informed by ET about Waddingham's wishes, but she joked that Hannah's statuesque, nearly-six-foot height could pose a problem onscreen opposite the four-foot-eleven Quinta Brunson.

Funnily enough, height also played a part in a recent collab pitch put forward by noted short king Daniel Radcliffe: he wants to star opposite Quinta Brunson in a romantic comedy because they'd be a "perfect height match."

Christina Ricci Wants To Play A Substitute Teacher

Yellowjackets cast member and '90s icon Christina Ricci is also an outspoken fan of Abbott Elementary. Recently, she revealed to Entertainment Weekly how she's been "bothering Quinta" to hire her to play a substitute on the sitcom:

Ricci has experience portraying a teacher on TV: she recently portrayed Nevermore Academy's Marilyn Thornhill in the Netflix series Wednesday. However, her character— spoiler alert! — ended up being the season's villain in that big twist ending. So, let's hope her educating skills are slightly less evil for the Abbott Elementary students. 

Ramy Youssef Is Ready To Play A Part In Abbott Elementary

Some actors have campaigned themselves for a potential Abbott Elementary guest spot, like Poor Things star Ramy Youssef, who told Entertainment Tonight while alongside Brunson on the 2024 Golden Globes red carpet that he was actually supposed to feature in the current season. However, he had to pull out due to scheduling conflicts. Ramy is still "begging" Quinta to get him back into the Abbott fold for future episodes, though:

And while many stars are campaigning for themselves when it comes to getting on Abbott Elementary, the regular cast of the show also has some A-list ideas in mind. 

Lisa Ann Walter Wants Lindsay Lohan On The Show

Lindsay Lohan has her own casting champion already on the Abbott Elementary staff: her The Parent Trap co-star Lisa Ann Walter. The 60-year-old actress, who plays teacher Melissa Schemmenti on the school sitcom, spoke with ET's Deidre Behar at this year's Critics Choice Awards about the role she's envisioning for Lohan: 

We'll have to wait to see if any of these celebrity cameos make it into future seasons of Abbott Elementary. For the upcoming third season, however, fans can expect to see new cast additions like The Other Two's Josh Segarra, Hacks alum Kimia Behpoornia and Never Have I Ever actor Benjamin Norris. 

So, even if these famous folks don't appear on the show, there's still so much goodness to look forward to when Abbott premieres on February 7.

When the first trailer of Barbie came out and shared the first footage of Ryan Gosling as Ken, it was met with a polarizing response of people coming down hard on the actor’s age. Then once the movie came out, the critics who saw the comedy film felt Gosling stole the show, and his performance even landed him among this year’s Oscar nominees. A year later, Eva Mendes’ man is now an Oscar nominee because of his performance as Ken. But, it doesn't mean she's forgotten about those who gave flack to her partner before the film came out. She took to Instagram to show her pride in her Place Beyond the Pines co-star and called out those who didn’t think he could pull his performance off. Her bold caption states:

Look at Eva Mendes standing by her man! The Hitch actress has always been in support of Ryan Gosling since his first photos of Ken came out. In fact, she even created the perfect hashtag #Thatsmyken to show love for the Barbieland resident. Mendes also showed her support rocking a tee with Ken’s photo on it and defended Gosling’s platinum blonde hair for Barbie, arguing that he’s playing a doll and not a real person. The pride she has in the leading man of her life stands out so strongly ever since he got the part.

In her Instagram post, she threw back one of the first articles written by Rolling Stone back in 2022 describing Ryan Gosling’s look as Ken to give a “major cringe.” She also highlighted portions of the article that said hateful things about the Crazy Stupid Love actor, like how people will be “lining up for therapy appointments” after watching his performance, and how he looks like a “creepy, older West Hollywood” man. I’d like to hope anyone who had negative first impressions about Gosling as Ken is eating their words right now considering his name appearing amongst the nominees of many award shows.

With so many fans, Ryan Gosling isn’t short of love. The Lars and the Real Girl actor really did give it his all playing Ken. He was able to make us laugh, get angry, cry and sympathize with his character’s struggle of trying to define himself. With the strong transformation Gosling put into the part, it’s no wonder he’s getting Oscar attention.

While people may have been happy for the former Mickey Mouse Club member, we couldn’t help but think about the many Oscar snubs Barbie endured. Amid the eight Oscar nominations, Greta Gerwig was snubbed as director  and the film’s lead Margot Robbie was practically “robbed” of a nomination too. The Best Supporting Actor nominee wasn’t happy about the news. In his response to his Barbie chums getting snubbed, he believed the Lady Bird director and Robbie were responsible for the Best Picture nominee breaking the records that it did, and that “there’s no Ken without Barbie.” 

Even though it was a shame that Ryan Gosling got polarizing responses when he first appeared on the scene as Ken, it’s a good thing that Eva Mendes was there by his side through it all, and is still there now to defend him against any haters. While it wasn’t fair for his Barbie pals to get snubbed, at least the Remember the Titans actor will be at the Academy to represent the movie and the performance that had critics and fans sending praise for him. It’s a well-known fact that actors tend to steal props and costumes from sets they’ve worked on. Ted Lasso was no exception. Now, as the cast reflects on their third (and possibly final) season and prepare to reunite at the Emmys – which airs on the 2024 TV schedule on January 15 – Hannah Waddingham revealed which items of Rebecca’s she snagged, and they are A+. 

Since it seems pretty clear that Ted Lasso has come to an end, and will likely not come back, the ensemble told People what they took from the set. This included Rebecca Welton herself, Hannah Waddingham, and of course, she wanted to take the most stylish items, as the Emmy-winner said:

However, what she ended up with, while small, is so, so meaningful. Waddingham revealed that she took home the little green army man Rebecca is given in Episode 2 of Ted Lasso’s first season. She explained that the small figurine stayed with her over the years as they shot the show, saying:

Adding to her little collection of trinkets that were lovingly rehomed, Hannah Waddinham also said she has the plane ticket Rebecca bought to catch Ted during the Season 3 finale of Ted Lasso as well as a storyboard from the very last scene of one of Apple TV+’s best shows.

Talk about A+ momentos. Whether Ted Lasso continues or not, these are all wonderful items to remember such a special three seasons, from the green army man from Season 1 to the storyboard that likely showed the final montage of the characters moving forward. 

Along with Waddingham, other members of the Ted Lasso cast confessed what they stole as well. Jason Sudeikis walked away with the snow globe Keeley gave Ted, Roy Kent’s Chelsea jersey, Henry’s jersey, which he adorably gave to his own son, as well as, and this is probably the most epic thing stolen, the original Believe sign. And of course, he got all this, he is Ted Lasso.

Like Waddingham, other members got some cool trinkets too. Phil Dunster told Popsugar he took a version of the Believe sign, and Brendan Hunt told the same outlet he has the entire Coach Beard outfit. Meanwhile, Brett Goldstein wouldn’t admit that he stole anything, but he did say “one day, Kent’s kit went missing,” meaning he likely stole Roy’s game day fit. 

Since it seems highly unlikely that Ted Lasso will return for a fourth season, I’m so happy all these items got “lovingly [rehomed].” 

Hopefully, someday, we’ll see some of these items and this cast back on screen together. However, for now, let’s just appreciate this fun moment we got, and the fact that we can stream all three seasons of Ted Lasso with an Apple TV+ subscription.

Tom Cruise is one of the world's biggest movie stars, but you don’t reach that level of stardom without some level of controversy attached to your name, and Cruise certainly has that. However, say what you will about Cruise off-screen, Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part Two co-star Hannah Waddingham has nothing but good things to say about Cruise, and director Christopher McQuarrie for that matter.

Hannah Waddingham has joined the Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part Two cast in an as-yet-unknown role. Last month she appeared on TV and spoke about her time filming with Tom Cruise, with Waddingham calling him one of the “loveliest” people she has met, and saying she had “no time” for his detractors. Speaking with Deadline before the Golden Globes she reiterated those comments while also indicating she’s seen some backlash herself for having made them. She said…

It does sound like Hannah Waddington and Tom Cruise did get to know each other pretty well on set. Waddington said their scenes together for the next Mission: Impossible movie involved spending five days together on board the USS George HW Bush, which had to be an incredible experience, though also an intense one. It sounds like Waddingham plays one of the good guys, teaming up with Cruise following the cliffhanger ending of Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One. 

Tom Cruise has had some high-profile marriages, to both Nicole Kidman and Katie Holmes, that have both ended and been fodder for tabloids. Cruise is also the single most prominent member of the Church of Scientology, an organization that has been the subject of numerous controversies of its own. As such, not everybody loves Tom Cruise, but Waddingham does.

And to be fair, when speaking about Cruise strictly professionally, most of his co-stars tend to have glowing things to say. He’s been called the hardest-working person on any given set. His willingness to put his own body on the line to get incredible stunts on film is very well known. Most of the people who work with Cruise tend to avoid talking about his personal life, and it doesn’t seem that life intrudes much on any given film set, so there’s not a lot that anybody could say even if they wanted to do so.

Fans of Tom Cruise will have to wait a bit longer than anticipated to see the Waddington and Cruise together. The Mission: Impossible: Dead Recking Part Two release date has been pushed back to May 2025. After participating in some mega intense stunts on the new Mission: Impossible film, Hannah Waddingham has Tom Cruise’s back, for good. The Ted Lasso star is one of the latest actors to join the franchise, and she had nothing but kind things to say about her co-star after spending some time with the Magnolia actor, despite his controversies over the years. 

In a recent interview with James Martin’s Saturday Morning, Waddingham talked about joining the Mission: Impossible 8 crew in their latest endeavor, and what it was like working with superstar Tom Cruise. She talked about the grueling filming schedule and how she spent five days on the USS George HW Bush fighter carrier with the Jerry Maguire star. While the situation in question was very intense, apparently Cruise was a very supportive person to be doing it with. She said (via The Independent):

For context, Cruise has been the subject of a slew of controversies over the years, from his involvement in Scientology, to his messy divorces from Katie Holmes and Nicole Kidman. He additionally received a lot of criticism for yelling at the Mission: Impossible 7 crew when he felt that they weren’t closely adhering to COVID protocols in 2020. His infamous intensity also isn’t for everyone, and it seems like he’s the subject of a new tabloid story every day. However, all of the tabloid fodder was certainly not reflective of Waddingham’s experience with the star, as she continued to express what a positive experience she had working with Cruise: 

Despite media scrutiny, he seems to be beloved by people he works with. The young actors cast in Top Gun: Maverick were profusive about their appreciation for Cruise’s mentorship while working on the high-flying film. Simon Pegg, who has been working with the actor for almost 15 years also expressed a desire to work with him after the M:I franchise ends, and Emily Blunt has been one of the biggest champions of continuing to work with Cruise, as she constantly campaigns for an Edge of Tomorrow sequel. His public persona may remain be the subject of controversy, however he still seems to be a favorite co-star for many. 

Hannah Waddingham discussing production on M:I 8 is great news for fans, as it gives us hope that there will be a new Mission very soon. After the release of Dead Reckoning Part One this year, the follow up film has been the victim of numerous delays due to the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike, which finally came to an end in September. However, director Christopher McQuarrie gave fans a lot to be excited about for the upcoming film when he posted a sneak peak of Waddingham’s character in March. There’s a lot to look forward to, and hopefully M:I 8 is as much fun to watch as the Game of Thrones alum had while making the movie with Cruise.

The Cast Of Ted Lasso Reunited At Saturday Night Live

Before we get into Hannah Waddingham’s hilarious plea, let’s take a look at the iconic cast photo that came right before. Following Ted Lasso’s Season 3 finale on the 2023 TV schedule, there’s been a lot of chatter about the show’s future. And while we still don’t know if there will be a spinoff or continuation of Ted Lasso, we do know that the cast cherishes each other. So, with all that in mind, Hannah Waddingham decided to chat about this reunion while making her hopes for the future clear to Jason Sudeikis on national television, and it was iconic.

Hannah Waddingham Opened Up About The Reunion, And She Yelled At Jason Sudeikis About It

While speaking about the majority of the Ted Lasso cast traveling as a "nauseating pack" and showing up at Saturday Night Live during an interview on Late Night with Seth Meyers, Waddingham took the opportunity to send a message to the show’s titular star as she exclaimed:

Yes, Jason! We miss it! While it’s lovely to see the co-stars reunite in real life, there’s no denying how much I miss the show and its loveable cast of characters. I need more Rebecca in my life, and based on this passionate plea, I think this actress does too.

Waddingham is not shy about her love for this ensemble, she even said she wants the Ted Lasso cast to get matching tattoos. Earlier in the interview she spoke again about how much they genuinely adore each other, and how they’ll take any opportunity to be together. The Emmy-winning actress said:

Now, while Hannah Waddingham seems to want the show to come back based on comments like this, the Rebbeca actress isn’t totally on board for a spinoff. However, she did say in the same breath that “if there were more to come,” she’d “certainly entertain the idea.” 

While we sincerely don’t know if Ted Lasso will continue in any capacity, the cast’s adoration for each other is evident, and I’m sure they’ll take any opportunity they get to reunite – whether it be a trip to SNL, a holiday special like the actress’s, the upcoming Emmys or a fundraiser like Thundergong (which Sudeikis and Waddingham sang “Shallow” at recently). Hopefully, after the Emmys, there will be even more sweet reunions like the one we just talked about, and if dreams really do come true, Hannah Waddingham's pleas will become reality. 

Even though there seems to be a slim chance that Ted Lasso will return, you can always go back and watch the undeniable love the cast has for each other by streaming Seasons 1 through 3 with an Apple TV+ subscription. 

What happens when you put an Emmy winner and an Oscar winner in an action-comedy series together? I don’t know, but we’re about to find out, because Hannah Waddingham has landed her first lead TV role following Ted Lasso’s Season 3 (and possibly series) finale. She’s set to co-star alongside Octavia Spencer in a new untitled spy action-comedy from Skydance TV for Amazon Prime. While details about the show are sparse, I can confirm that it sounds like buckets of fun, and I will 100% be tuning in. 

Waddingham and Spencer are set to star and executive produce an 8-episode original series from Tessa Coates for Prime Video. According to a press release from the streamer, the series from Skydance Television had multiple bidders. Amazon won, and it gave the action-comedy a straight-to-series order. Based on the synopsis alone, I totally get why the company was so eager to pick it up. Take a peek at the brief explanation of the series that these two powerhouses are set to lead:

Hannah Waddingham playing a spy and Octavia Spencer portraying her bestie who finds out about her double life? Sign me up! This show sounds action-packed and so fun, it also seems like it will be a fantastic story about female friendship, which we love to see. 

The Ted Lasso cast member’s enthusiasm about the role is also infectious, and has me hoping this show makes its way onto the 2024 TV schedule (however, it’ll likely come out in a year or two). Waddingham said:

Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon MGM Studios, also said they were “blown away by this one-of-a-kind comedy,” meaning it seems like everyone involved with this show is stoked about it.

Along with the general explanation of the series and its cast getting me all kinds of excited, Hannah Waddingham is uniquely qualified for this action-comedy, which makes it even better. On the 2024 movie schedule, she’ll be featured as part of The Fall Guy cast as well as the Mission: Impossible 8 ensemble. Mix those two highly anticipated action films with her Emmy-winning comedic skills that were on display in Ted Lasso, and you have the perfect person to co-lead an action-comedy with the one and only Octavia Spencer. 

Overall, I can’t wait to learn more about this action-comedy, and based on the enthusiastic comments from Waddingham and co. about the show, it sounds like they have a real winner on their hands. Eventually, the series will be available to stream with a Prime Video subscription, and it has the potential to be one of Amazon’s best series. Hannah Waddingham Hyped Her Co-Star

First things first! Phil Dunster was nominated in the Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy category for Ted Lasso Season 3, which is his first Critics Choice Awards nomination. Hannah Waddingham, who won in the Best Supporting Actress category in both 2021 and 2022, took to X (formerly known as Twitter) with kind words for the star known for playing Jamie Tartt:

Phil Dunster's Season 3 performance as Jamie Tartt earned him his first Emmy nomination alongside co-star Brett Goldstein as well. He's the only member of the Ted Lasso cast to be nominated for a Critics Choice Award for the third season. Hannah Waddingham didn't just celebrate Dunster on X, as she also posted in his honor on her Instagram Story: 

Phil Dunster is up against some stiff competition for Best Supporting Actor in one of Apple TV+'s best shows, including Harry Winkler, who earned the nom for Barry's final season, and Harrison Ford for Shrinking. Dunster's co-star Brett Goldstein co-created Shrinking, which he had to balance with Ted Lasso. 

Hannah Waddingham also celebrated Ted Lasso's Juno Temple via Instagram Story for her Critics Choice nomination in the category of Best Actress in a Limited Series or Movie, which she received for her role in Fargo. Seeing Waddingham give all the love to her former co-stars left me flashing back to her comments for Hannah Waddingham: Home for Christmas in the best way. 

Hannah Waddingham's Praise For Ted Lasso Co-Stars

Hannah Waddingham: Home for Christmas featured some fabulous guests, which the leading lady described as "the cream of the crop." Among those were many of her fellow Ted Lasso alums, with Nick Mohammed, Kola Bokinni, Billy Harris, James Lance, and Brendan Hunt contributing some dance moves (and laughs) while Phil Dunster dueted with her. Brett Goldstein, Juno Temple, and Jason Sudeikis appeared as well, although not on stage. 

At a press conference for her Christmas special attended by CinemaBlend, Waddingham opened up about how her former cast mates reacted to what their roles would be. The leading lady explained that she "wanted the cast of Ted Lasso" and could only have "dreamt that so many of them were like 'hell yeah, we are in,'" then shared:

Ted Lasso may not have included many musical numbers – although the football players dancing to NSYNC's "Bye, Bye, Bye" and choreographing a number to The Sound of Music's "So Long, Farewell" on the pitch were certainly memorable – but the stars were evidently ready for whatever Waddingham wanted them to do on stage. Most of them contributed as her dancers, with Phil Dunster showing off the vocals that he never needed to use as Jamie Tartt. 

For his part, Nick Mohammed spent a fair amount of the special hoisted into the air, and Hannah Waddingham shouted out his work for Home for Christmas:

Nate may have been in his villain era for Season 3 of Ted Lasso, but that definitely wasn't the case for actor Nick Mohammed when it came to helping Hannah Waddingham out for her holiday special. Whether or not the cast of Ted Lasso ever does get the matching tattoos that Waddingham pitched remains to be seen. The actress said "Chef's kiss" regarding her incredible dresses for Home for Christmas, and who could disagree?

Throughout its eight-season run on HBO, Game of Thrones introduced us to some of TV’s most beloved characters, some of which made it to the very end. Others, however, like some fan favorites who were killed off, had no such luck. In fact, several of the show’s most notable and well-known heroes and villains weren’t actually around as long as we may think. That being said, here are 32 Game of Thrones characters who weren't in as many episodes as you'd think.

Lyanna Mormont (9 Episodes)

One of the breakout characters from the final few seasons of Game of Thrones, Lyanna Mormont (Bella Ramsey) quickly became one of the best things about the epic fantasy series. And while the young Lady of Bear Island gave us unforgettable moments, she was only around for nine episodes, according to Ramsey’s IMDb profile.

Oberyn Martell (7 Episodes)

Prince Oberyn Martell (Pedro Pascal) became an instant hit upon his arrival in Game of Thrones' fourth season. However, the “Red Viper” was only around for seven episodes before his head-crushing finale, per his IMDb page.

Hodor (23 Episodes)

Winterfell servant and later protector of Bran Stark, Hodor (Kristian Nairn) was one of the most beloved supporting characters during the early days of Game of Thrones. However, he was only around for a portion of the show’s 73 episodes (remember, Bran’s story was missing from Season 5). According to Nairn’s IMDb profile, Hodor was only in 23 episodes, including his touching and heartbreaking death.

Robert Baratheon (7 Episodes)

King Robert Baratheon (Mark Addy) played a major role in the first few episodes of Game of Thrones, but he really wasn’t around all that long before a “hunting accident” led to his quick demise. However, despite only being in seven episodes, per Addy’s IMDb filmography, the character’s death would impact the rest of the series.

The Night King (10 Episodes) 

Despite being presented as one of the major antagonists of Game of Thrones, the Night King only showed up in 10 episodes throughout the show’s run. Played by Richard Burke in Seasons 4 and 5, and Vladimir Furdik in the final three installments, this was a “less is more” situation.

Talisa Stark (11 Episodes)

Talisa Stark (Oona Chaplin) was a major supporting character in the second and third seasons of Game of Thrones, but she never made it past the Red Wedding, where she suffered one of the show’s most gruesome deaths. All in all, the character was in 11 episodes, per Chaplin’s IMDb profile.

Khal Drogo (10 Episodes)

While Jason Momoa will always be tied to Game of Thrones for his awesome portrayal of Khal Drogo, the character suffered a cruel fate in Season 1. The husband of Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke), lasted only 10 episodes, per Momoa’s IMDb page, with the last being a special appearance in Season 2.

Walder Frey (6 Episodes)

Walder Frey (David Bradley) will forever be remembered as one of the sickest and cruelest Game of Thrones characters because of the Red Wedding, which is impressive considering the character only appeared in six episodes. According to Bradley’s IMDb profile, Frey last appeared in the Season 7 opener, “Dragonstone.”

Ramsay Bolton (20 Episodes)

Ramsay Bolton’s (Iwan Rheon) reign of terror felt like it lasted dozens of episodes before his finale scene where Sansa let the hounds loose on him. However, the ruthless figure only showed up in 20 episodes, including the iconic “Battle of the Bastards,” per the actor’s IMDb page.

Stannis Baratheon (24 Episodes)

One of the more consequential and arguably unfortunate characters on Game of Thrones was Stannis Baratheon (Stephen Dillane), who would stop at nothing to claim the Iron Throne. While it feels like he was around for a long time, Stannis was only in 24 episodes over four seasons, per Dillane’s IMDb filmography.

Three-Eyed Raven (12 Episodes)

The Three-Eyed Raven (played by Struan Rodger and later, Max von Sydow) helped Bran Stark tremendously on his path throughout Game of Thrones, but those appearances were few and far between, as the character only showed up in 12 episodes before his death. 

Tywin Lannister (27 Episodes)

Twenty-seven episodes may seem like a lot of screen time for a character, but it honestly feels like Tywin Lannister (Charles Dance) was around a lot longer than four seasons. But as seen in Dance’s IMDb profile, the iron-fisted family patriarch only had a couple of dozen episodes to “repay his debts.”

Lysa Arryn (5 Episodes)

Lysa Arryn (Kate Dickie), the sister of Catelyn Stark and wife of Petyr “Littlefinger” Baelish, was one of the most detestable Game of Thrones characters, even though she was only in five episodes. According to Dickie’s IMDb page, her last episode was “Mockingbird” in Season 4.

Yara Greyjoy (16 Episodes)

Yara Greyjoy (Gemma Whelan) was introduced in Game of Thrones Season 2, and she quickly became a tour de force on the show. However, the sister of Theon Grejoy and eventual Lady of the Iron Islands only appeared in 16 episodes, per Whelan’s IMDb profile.

Viserys Targaryen (5 Episodes)

Viserys Targaryen (Harry Lloyd) has always felt like a Game of Thrones character who was around for a long time, but the scheming brother of Dany Targaryen only made it five episodes before meeting his end, per Lloyd’s IMDb profile.

Olenna Tyrell (18 Episodes) 

Olenna Tyrell (Dame Diana Rigg) went out like a boss in the Season 7 episode “The Queen’s Justice,” giving fans a fulfilling moment. However, it didn’t take the head of House Tyrell long to build up support, as she only popped up in 18 episodes, according to Rigg’s IMDb page.

Euron Greyjoy  (9 Episodes)

Here’s something wild to think about, the Iron Islands’ Euron Greyjoy (Pilou Asbaek) only appeared in nine episodes of Game of Thrones, which just doesn’t seem right. However, according to Asbaek’s IMDb profile, the ruthless seafaring member of the Grejoy family, and one-time ally of Queen Cersei, had a quality-over-quantity situation during his brief yet unforgettable run.

The High Sparrow (12 Episodes)

Coming into the fold a little after the halfway point through the series, the High Sparrow (Jonathan Pryce) appeared in parts of only two seasons before falling victim to Cersei along with her other enemies. However, it feels like the leader of the Sparrows was around a lot longer than the 12 episodes listed on Pryce’s IMDb page, especially considering the arc where he made Cersei’s life a living nightmare.

Benjen Stark (8 Episodes)

The youngest of Ned Stark’s siblings, Benjen (Joseph Mawle) played a massive role behind the scenes of the Game of Thrones epic, and he was a character that came through in a big way later on. However, this meant he was rarely seen, only showing up in eight episodes, two of which saw him portrayed by Mawle, per the actor’s IMDb profile.

Maester Aemon Targaryen (11 Episodes)

It may seem like Maester Aemon Targaryen appeared in a lot of episodes of Game of Thrones, but in reality, he only popped up 11 times throughout the show’s run, per actor Peter Vaughan's IMDb profile. This isn’t to say he wasn’t impactful, as the maester of Castle Black was incredibly impactful over the years.

Renly Baratheon (8 Episodes)

Portrayed by Gethin Anthony throughout the first two seasons of Game of Thrones, Renly Baratheon surprisingly only appeared in eight episodes, which honestly messes with our heads a bit. But sure enough, check out his IMDb page, and you’ll see the young brother of Robert and Stannis Baratheon only showed up a few times before he was killed off.

Jeor Mormont (12 Episodes)

Jeor Mormont (James Cosmo), the 997th Lord Commander of the Night’s Watch was undeniably a miserable old man, but the character did have a rather fulfilling arc before everything was said and done. And though it seemed like it took years for it to unfold, Mormont’s story took place over 12 episodes, per the actor’s IMDb filmography.

Yoren (7 Episodes)

Yoren (Francis Magee) played a pivotal role in the early episodes of Game of Thrones, mostly as Arya Stark’s protector after her father’s execution. Though his actions set up a lot of what was to come later in the show, Yoren didn’t make it out of the second season, and he was killed after only seven episodes, per Magee’s IMDb page.

Ygritte (17 Episodes)

It’s hard to imagine Jon Snow’s story over the course of Game of Thrones without the impact of Ygritte (Rose Leslie), she was that important. However, the quick-witted and fearsome wildling wasn’t really around all that long, with Leslie only portraying the ill-fated warrior in 17 episodes, per her IMDb profile.

Unella (8 Episodes)

Before Hannah Waddingham went on to win Emmys and receive heaps of praise for her portrayal of Rebecca Welton in the Ted Lasso cast, she had a brief run on Game of Thrones. And we mean brief! According to her IMDb page, Waddigham played Unella, one of the Septa of the Faith of the Seven and the High Sparrow’s devoted follower in only eight episodes. Honestly, it feels like she was around a whole lot longer than that.

Jaqen H'ghar (18 Episodes)

Jaquen H’ghar (Tom Wlaschiha) had more of an impact on Arya Stark than just about anyone else on Game of Thrones. But what’s crazy to think about is the fact the Faceless Man of Braavos only showed up in 18 episodes, per Wlaschiha’s IMDb profile.

Syrio Forel (3 Episodes)

Syrio Forel (Miltos Yerolemou) was the master swordsman who trained Arya Stark just before her life was turned upside down in the first season of Game of Thrones. Though we never actually saw Syrio die at the hand of Meryn Trant following the Lannisters’ betrayal of House Stark, it is suggested later on in the series that the Bravos sword-fighter never made it out of King's Landing, ending his run at three episodes.

Brynden 'Blackfish' Tully (7 Episodes)

Brynden “Blackfish” Tully (Clive Russell) played a large part in the middle seasons of Game of Thrones, and you wouldn’t be alone in thinking that he had an episode count in the double digits. However, the uncle of Catelyn, Lysa, and Edmure Tully had no such luck, and he had a rather brief run with only seven episodes. According to Russell’s IMDb page, Tully last appeared in the Season 6 episode titled “No One.”

Robin Arryn (9 Episodes)

Robin Arryn (Lino Facioli), a character whose appearance changed greatly over the course of Game of Thrones, was also one of the strangest of the bunch. The son of Lysa Arryn and cousin of the Stark children, appeared in parts of five seasons, including the first and last, but only showed up nine times total. 

Ros (14 Episodes)

Ros (Esme Bianco) was one of the most beautiful characters during the first three seasons of Game of Thrones, as well as one who crossed paths with iconic figures like Tyrion Lannister, Theon Greyjoy, Jon Snow, and several others during her time on the show. However, though she was a prominent supporting character, Ros only appeared in a total of 14 episodes, the final being the Season 3 episode titled “The Climb,” per the actress’ IMDb profile.

Yohn Royce (13 Episodes)

It felt like Yohn Royce (Rupert Vansittart), Lord of Runestone and man of varying loyalties, was always there in one way or another, but he actually wasn’t in that many episodes of Game of Thrones. In fact, he only popped up in 13 episodes throughout the final five seasons of the popular HBO fantasy series, according to Vansittart’s IMDb profile.

Shireen Baratheon (10 Episodes)

Shireen Baratheon (Kerry Ingram), whose tragic and traumatic death in Game of Thrones Season 5 is still burned in our memory years later, was only on the show for 10 episodes. And while it’s easy to think the daughter of Stannis Baratheon was around more than that, Ingram’s filmography on IMDb has her down for not even a dozen episodes.

Though these characters were only a part of the Game of Thrones cast for a small number of episodes, they all had an impact during their lives as well as long after they crossed over into the afterlife.

While Halloween may be over, there’s never a bad time to talk about the Disney gateway horror classic Hocus Pocus. As fans continue to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy’s Sanderson Sisters running amuck, amuck, amuck through Salem, thoughts are also tuned into what the future could bring.

Which, of course, is a good point to remind everyone that Hocus Pocus 3 is happening, and what’s more writer Jen D’Angelo has provided an update on its script. Not only is that information in play, but there’s also a tease for just how Hannah Waddingham’s character from Hocus Pocus 2 might actually connect to the original classic.

The Status Of Hocus Pocus 3’s Story, According To Jen D’Angelo

Speaking to EW on the occasion of this year’s big milestone for Hocus Pocus, Ms. D’Angelo has been a font of information when it comes to this beloved universe. Previously, she revealed that legacy bullies Jay and Ice were almost in Hocus Pocus 2; but were eventually cut from the script.

Anyone holding out for hope that those two nutty funsters, or any other OG characters, may appear in Hocus Pocus 3 shouldn’t get their spirits up just yet. Though as far as where the script for Jen D’Angelo’s second entry in the series will go, she did provide this quick hit of information:

So for those of you who want to use that Disney+ subscription to scour for clues in both Hocus Pocus films, you officially have your first assignment. Introduced in 2022’s long awaited legacy-quel, the Mother Witch was shown to be the mentor that set the Sanderson Sisters down their path of eternal life through child murder. 

With Hocus Pocus 2’s ending teasing that Waddingham’s central figure is now interested in a new coven of witches, the door is clearly wide open for her return. However, the writer of this year’s Quiz Lady has also revealed just how she may intend to connect Hannah Waddigham back into 1993’s Hocus Pocus. Brace yourselves for a deep cut of Sanderson Sister lore.

How Hannah Waddingham’s Mother Witch May Be Retconned Into The Original

If you’re a Hocus Pocus fan who knows the movie front to back, I have three words that will sum up where Jen D’Angelo is headed with her Hocus Pocus 3 logic: The Calming Circle. If you need a bit of a refresher, or if you just love that scene to begin with, take a look at the video below. But while you watch, pay close attention to those happy memories Kathy Najimy’s Mary Sanderson recalls in her attempted soothing:

Upon first glance, this feels like the ladies remembering their long departed family fondly. That’s especially true with the mention of “Mummy’s Scorpion Pie,” which already sounds like a horrific delicacy these witches loved to feast upon. However, according to D’Angelo, her take on Mummy isn’t literal, as she’s potentially using that reference to make the following connection:

Bringing it all back around to the point that Hocus Pocus 3’s story still has “so many directions” it can take, our reunion with everyone’s favorite Ted Lasso veteran turned spellcaster might not use the theory above in practice. Which is perfectly fine, as Playbill pointed out another way that Mother Witch may have already been built into the mix, thanks to Dani (Thora Birch) potentially being dressed as her for Halloween in 1993.

Perhaps the confirmation or debunking of that other theory might be the way to bring back more OG Hocus Pocus characters. Star Omri Katz is certainly down for it, and one could imagine that Vinessa Shaw and Thora Birch would be interested as well. For now, we’ll all just have to keep waiting for new Hocus Pocus 3 details, as the script is still being worked out. Apple TV+ was ready to ring in the Christmas season early in the 2023 TV schedule thanks to Ted Lasso alum Hannah Waddingham and her musical extravaganza. Called Hannah Waddingham: Home for Christmas, the 45-minute special reunited Waddingham with friends and former co-stars while delivering enough festive tunes to truly feel like the most wonderful time of the year. After being joined by singers like Leslie Odom Jr. of Hamilton fame and Luke Evans from Beauty and the Beast on top of the Ted Lasso cast, Waddingham opened up about the "cream of the crop" guests for her holiday special!

Spoilers ahead for Hannah Waddingham: Home for Christmas.

Waddingham dueted with Odom Jr., Luke Evans, and her Ted Lasso co-star Phil Dunster, among others, in the special for Apple TV+ subscribers, while also welcoming Nick Mohammed, Kola Bokinni, Billy Harris, James Lance, and Brendan Hunt on stage with her. Brett Goldstein, Juno Temple, and Jason Sudeikis joined for scenes filmed elsewhere, but Hunt dropped a joke about wanting to duet with Waddingham and saying that Apple TV doesn't "stop you if you run long" with an extra song. 

Ahead of the special releasing on Apple TV+, Hannah Waddingham answered questions from select press outlets. When asked by CinemaBlend about the challenges in fitting so many special guests into less than an hour, she shared: 

Believe it or not, there were more people on the list of potential guests than the ones who made the final cut! The singer/actress didn't specify the names of the "fabulous guests" who she was offered, but she certainly had a connection with the people she ultimately brought onto stage with her. Considering that she was honoring both her mother and her daughter, it only seems right that she felt a strong bond with those she worked with! She went on to explain how they pulled off filming the special, including the Ted Lasso cast members' reactions to being asked to participate:

While she had full duets and songs with the featured performers including Luke Evans, Leslie Odom Jr., Sam Ryder, The Fabulous Lounge Singers, the English National Opera, and the London Gay Men's Chorus, the Ted Lasso cast other than Phil Dunster mostly did less singing and more dancing, although Nick Mohammed delivered some of the best laughs of the special by trying to steal his former co-star's spotlight. I think it's safe to say that plenty of Ted Lasso fans were saying "Hell yeah" as well to their appearances in the special! 

Whether Waddingham ever does convince the cast to get matching tattoos remains to be seen, though. The actress went on to explain why Leslie Odom Jr. was a great fit for Hannah Waddingham: Home for Christmas, as well as when the holly-jolly special filmed. She said: 

You wouldn't know it to watch the Apple TV+ production, but the celebration of Christmas with Hannah Waddingham actually taped back in May! While the reunions with Brett Goldstein, Juno Temple, and Jason Sudeikis didn't happen on stage, she and the SNL alum still shared a musical moment in a car at the very end. Their rendition of "Jingle Bells" didn't quite have the spectacle as their recent A Star Is Born collaboration, but it was a great way to end the special.

Sometimes, when a cast gets so close and works on a super special project together, they get a tattoo to commemorate it. You'll likely remember that the original Avengers all got ink back in 2018. Well, now, Hannah Waddingham is proposing that the Ted Lasso cast do this too, and she has a very sweet reason why. 

It’s been months since Season 3 of Ted Lasso ended, and it’s still unclear if we’ll ever see AFC Richmond again. However, either way, after Ted Lasso’s story came to a close, one thing that was clear is the fact that this cast is really close, and they love each other dearly. So, as Hannah Waddingham is promoting her holiday special on the 2023 TV schedule, Hannah Waddingham: Home for Christmas, she opened up about her adoration for her castmates, and she explained why they should all get matching tattoos. She told Today:

Personally, I think they should do it. That’d be such a fun and sweet way to honor their time together, whether AFC Richmond’s stories continue or not. 

There’s no question that Ted Lasso helped propel Hannah Waddingham’s, Brett Goldstein’s, Phil Dunster’s and the entire ensembles’ careers forward. The show was more than a massive hit, it was a pop culture phenomenon that is considered one of Apple TV+’s best shows. Plus they all actually, genuinely like each other. And when you combine those two things, you get something truly special. Why not honor this incredible part of their lives with a little greyhound tattoo?

Well, tattoo or not, this cast remains very close. Recently, the Rebecca actor sang “Shallow” from A Star is Born with her co-star Jason Sudeikis at a benefit concert. Plus, she also spoke about how many of the Ted Lasso cast are in her upcoming holiday special. She said:

For Hannah Waddingham: Home for Christmas she’ll be joined by many of her Ted Lasso pals, including (but possibly not limited to) Phil Dunster, Nick Mohammed, Juno Temple, Brendan Hunt, James Lance, Billy Harris and Kola Bokinni, as shown in the trailer. That alone proves that the love this cast has for each other is immense, and maybe they should commemorate that with some matching tattoos. 

Maybe, someday the cast will get matching lil greyhound tattoos. But, for now, we can all see their appreciation and love for each other by streaming Seasons 1 through 3 of Ted Lasso with an Apple TV+ subscription. And to prove this point even further, you can see the actress and her lovely co-stars in Hannah Waddingham: Home for Christmas starting on November 22 on the same streaming platform. 

Ted Lasso ended its third and potentially final season in May 2023. Since then, Apple TV+ has been quiet about potential spinoffs despite fans having multiple ideas about how the show could return. While the streaming service might be done with the cast and crew, it seems that some of the former co-stars have remained close. In fact, Jason Sudeikis and Hannah Waddingham just reunited at THUNDERGONG! 2023. 

Sudeikis was sharing the stage at the benefit concert with actor and comedian Will Forte, when the opening chords of the Academy Award-winning song “Shallow” from the Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper movie A Star Is Born began playing. The Ted Lasso star told Forte “There’s nobody I’d rather sing this song with” before launching into Cooper’s part. 

As Forte began singing, his performance was quickly interrupted by Waddingham, whose appearance was met with thunderous cheers. As she took over, Sudeikis and Forte moved to the background, where they staged an argument. Watch the hilarious and moving performance for yourself: 

The Ted Lasso co-stars, who many believed would have a romance plot in Season 3, definitely nailed the performance. I bet the “Tedbecca” fans make up a bulk of the 245,000 views (and counting) on YouTube, while more casual fans may be surprised that both stars can sing like that. Regardless, fans took to the comment section of YouTube to shout their praise for the duo:

Waddingham is no stranger to the stage, having appeared in several West End musical productions over the years. She’s also gearing up for her Apple TV+ holiday special, Hannah Waddingham: Home For Christmas, which drops on November 22 and will feature several guest stars, including several members of the Ted Lasso cast. While Sudeikis hasn't appeared in any musicals, the former SNL star did regularly sing on the sketch comedy series.

Not only was the cover spectacular, but it marks the first time the two have reunited publicly since the series wrapped. The fictional Richmond owner wasn’t the only cast member to take the stage at the benefit concert, as Brendan Hunt (Coach Beard) also took the stage for a good cause.

While the fate of Ted Lasso is still up in the air despite Waddingham having her own ideas for a potential spinoff, fans can revisit the Richmond football team by streaming the show with an active Apple TV+ subscription. Don’t forget to keep an eye on our 2023 TV schedule for any updates. 

We might be “Richmond ‘til we die,” but will we ever get to return to the home of the beloved football club? After the end of Ted Lasso’s third season, it’s unclear if the finale was just the end of a chapter or the end of a book. With that said, if Ted Lasso were to return, how would it? Would it be through a spinoff? A Season 4? Something entirely different? While we don’t know, I have a few ideas for how AFC Richmond’s stories could continue, so let’s talk about it. 

The Tales Of Roy Kent And AFC Richmond 

Roy Kent’s journey from player to coach to manager was quite the hero’s arc, and it was clear at the end of Ted Lasso Season 3 that he had grown into the great leader Ted always knew he could be. While it seemed like Roy could take over AFC Richmond pretty early on, it became true in the final moments of the latest installment. With Beard and Nate as his assistant coaches, it feels like the story could continue through a spinoff about the grumpy but lovely manager as he leads the team to victory.

Maybe they could change the name to Roy Kent. They could also rebrand the show as simply AFC Richmond, because the only character missing from this hypothetical spinoff would be Ted, who is in Kansas. Considering the club’s growth during Ted’s time as its leader, it feels like Brett Goldstein’s character is poised to continue that success, and hopefully, we all get to see it through a spinoff show. 

The Founding Of AFC Richmond's Women’s Team  

A KJPR Joint was presented during the final moments of Ted Lasso’s Season 3 finale, as we found out that Keeley and Rebecca were thinking about starting an AFC Richmond women’s team. Now, this idea feels like a totally new show, and a fantastic way to grow the Ted Lasso cinematic universe, if they choose to. 

It would be so fun to see these two powerhouses, and the Richmond team, create a women’s club. Not only would it give Keeley and Rebecca the much-deserved spotlight, but it would also open the door for a new team of players. And if they can cast a women’s team like they cast the men’s team, I just know we’d be in for something special. 

Hannah Waddingham has said she’d “entertain the idea” of returning as Rebecca, and Juno Temple has spoken in favor of getting the Ted Lasso crew back together. So, if it’s done well, I totally think they’d be down for something like an AFC Richmond Women’s Team spinoff. 

They Could Just Make Ted Lasso Season 4 

Honestly, with the way Jason Sudeikis’ character’s story was wrapped up, it feels like Ted won’t be going back to AFC Richmond anytime soon. However, never say never. Even though it’s slim, I don’t want to rule out the chance that we could just get a straight-up Season 4 of Ted Lasso. 

Maybe the entire family decides to move back to England, or maybe it flashes back and forth between Ted’s life in the United States and the team's shenanigans in the UK. I think both would be fun options, and if it were up to me, this coach from Kansas would always be involved with the English football club. 

However, I don’t make the decisions, so we’ll have to wait and see if there are any more stories about the world of Ted Lasso. At the moment, we don’t know if we’ll get a spin-off, Season 4, or if Season 3 was the end of it all. While I want the characters to return to the screen so badly, I also respect the choice to tell a full story and end on their own terms (if this is the end). But, if they decide to bring back the iconic cast of characters from AFC Richmond, I have a few ideas for them!
