So, I love Gordon Ramsay, but my appreciation for him developed in recent years.

During the pandemic, I mainly spent my time applying to new places and binge-watching food shows that made me hungry. Eventually, this led me to all of Gordon Ramsay's cooking shows, and while there are plenty that I love—such as his latest, Next Level Chef, or a classic like MasterChef—there's one show that truly captured my heart, and that is Hell's Kitchen.

The Americanized version exploded and has been ongoing for twenty-four seasons now. During those binging times, I watched every season of Hell's Kitchen so far and have stayed up to date with it each year since then. It's made me laugh, feel stressed, and smile so often that it's hard to count.

But for the first time, Hell's Kitchen has made me cry – or, more specifically, Gordon Ramsay did, and I have to talk about it.

Let Me Start By Saying That I've Always Loved Hell's Kitchen

As I said in the introduction, Hell's Kitchen has been my favorite Ramsay show for a while, and it's for a good reason.

It's not just because it has excellent competition. I like how the show has evolved so well. There are a lot of competition shows or reality shows that are just the same thing over and over again, or they evolve in the wrong way.

For example, Love Is Blind has evolved in some good ways, but Love Is Blind Season 7 has been messy and less enjoyable. The same thing applies to competition shows like The Voice or American Idol; they've changed judges and specific aspects of the show over the years, but maybe not always for the better.

Hell's Kitchen, has changed things up all the time, really for the last several seasons. From this season focusing primarily on executive chefs to other seasons focusing on young ones to those that are all about All-Stars, it constantly changes, and I like that.

The Show Itself Makes Me Stressed – In An Entertaining Way

Aside from the show evolving, Hell's Kitchen genuinely makes me feel stressed – but in a good, entertaining way, which is why it's such good television.

Think of one of the best Hulu shows: The Bear. That's the most stressful original series on television, but you can't help but watch it because there's entertainment within the stress. It lures you in, just like Hell's Kitchen does. Is Ramsay going to yell at the contestants? Is he going to throw a random salmon into the wall? Or is everything going to work out?

That kind of suspense and stressfulness entertains me so much, and I feel giddy half the time.

But Gordon Ramsay Had A Very Emotional Moment In The Latest Season – And It Got Me Crying For The First Time

For the first time… instead of making me stressed or laugh or any of that, Gordon Ramsay made me cry during Hell's Kitchen -- in a good way.

Let me paint the scene. It's the fifth episode of Season 23, and one of the contestants, Egypt, an executive banquet chef, is this close to quitting the competition. Why? Two reasons – the Blue Team (his team) has basically teamed up against him, and he's experiencing some severe homesickness, which really anyone can relate to.

These people are far away from their families for weeks on end, and he misses his family and, most certainly, his daughter. Anyone can understand that. When he tells Ramsay, I was almost expecting him just to let him go, considering we've lost a good amount of contestants already in this season. But Ramsay pulls him aside.

Ramsay actually has a heart-to-heart with Egypt away from the other contestants, where he admits that he's had moments like this too – especially since, at the time of filming, Ramsay's wife had just given birth to a newborn, and he couldn't be there with her. It kills him inside, but he pushes through it. He then goes on to tell Egypt that there's a reason he's kept him around, despite his team ganging up on him, and it's because Ramsay believes in him and he sees something that his team does not.

The two exchange a hug, with Ramsay helping him gain back his confidence and step back out into the kitchen. And that scene… it just hit me. So hard. I think it's because while I've seen the kinder side of Ramsay in many of his other shows, we don't see that in this series.

This is a serious show, and it always has been. It's about who is going to lead Ramsay's next restaurant, and that's a big deal. But seeing this understanding side of him, genuinely connecting with one of the head chefs – made me sob pretty hard because it just makes me realize that even the most skilled and decorated people combat things as simple as homesickness. It's a moment that makes you connect even more with Ramsay, and I appreciate that.

I Hope That We Can See This Side Of Him More In Hell's Kitchen

I know that it's rare for us to get this side of Ramsay again. This show rarely tends to lean in that regard. But I don't know – I really would like it to. The series is going to continue to air as part of the 2024 TV schedule, and I really think that people seeing Ramsay connecting with his contestants more is a big deal.

While it's obvious Gordon Ramsay isn't always the big, mean chef all the time – because who can be? – it's nice to see this change of heart. And I hope it's something we see a heck of a lot more in the future.

For now, I'll just enjoy my little cooking channels on YouTube while I wait for the next episode to drop—and try to resist the urge to make Beef Wellington again.

Grey's Anatomy (ABC)

New Grey's Anatomy showrunner Meg Marinis didn't seem concerned about the longtime medical drama's immediate future when discussing just how long Grey's Anatomy could realistically last. Her confidence in the show being able to continue its historic run was confirmed, as ABC announced the Seattle surgeons will return for Season 21

9-1-1 (ABC)

On the same week that 9-1-1 will air its 100th episode — a crossover with The Bachelor — the first responder drama received even more good news, with the confirmation of an eighth season to come. Season 7 is the series' first on ABC after airing on Fox since 2018.

Hell's Kitchen (Fox)

Hell’s Kitchen is one of the longest running of Gordon Ramsay’s TV shows, pitting two teams against each other in high-stakes culinary battle to produce some impressive food (and some pretty surprising moments, too). Season 22 wrapped in January, and it wasn’t a huge surprise when Fox confirmed in March that it would be back; however, fans may be excited that it has already been renewed for two more seasons. 

The Last Thing He Told Me (Apple TV+)

Based on the novel of the same name by Laura Dave, The Last Thing He Told Me on Apple TV+ was intended to be a limited series, as the thriller followed the events of the book — Hannah Hall’s (Jennifer Garner) search for her missing husband and her relationship with stepdaughter Bailey (Angourie Rice). However, Dave has opted to pen a sequel to the story, and the streamer chose to renew it for a Season 2. 

Chicago Fire (NBC)

One Chicago fans got some good news when all three series received early renewals from NBC. The longest-running of the three, Chicago Fire, will see a 13th season premiering this fall. While the entire cast is likely happy for the boost in job security, the renewal is possibly especially exciting for Hallmark actress Jocelyn Hudon, who is joining the team in a recurring role with the option to become a series regular.

Chicago P.D. (NBC)

Meanwhile, the police corner of the Chicago trifecta will see a 12th season after what has so far been an exciting 11th, complete with a big serial killer story that will apparently pick back up in the final two episodes. Jesse Lee Soffer is also set to return, but not as Detective Jay Halstead (to the disappointment of some fans). Instead, Soffer will remain behind the camera to direct later in Season 11.  

Chicago Med (NBC)

Last but not least, the newest Chicago One series was announced to be returning in 2024-25. Chicago Med premiered in 2015, telling the stories of the doctors and nurses of Gaffney Chicago Medical Center. Season 9 has seen some new romances in the ED and a big story for Sharon Goodwin (S. Epatha Merkerson), and now fans have been guaranteed that milestone 10th season. 

Law & Order (NBC)

The Chicago shows weren’t the only Dick Wolf series to get the good news, as Law & Order has been renewed for an impressive 24th season. The show has been on long enough that, as Mehcad Brooks pointed out, the writers have found the “magical balancing act” between the “case of the week” format and featuring deeper character work. 

Law & Order: SVU (NBC)

Meanwhile, Law & Order: SVU is currently in its 25th season, celebrating a quarter-century of seeking justice for assault victims. That will officially continue into a 26th season this fall, leaving just Law & Order: Organized Crime in renewal limbo, as NBC is apparently still in discussion over whether or not Christopher Meloni’s spinoff will get a fifth season. Could a crossover tip the scales? 

The Way Home (Hallmark)

The time-traveling drama The Way Home found a fast following on Hallmark when it premiered in 2023, and the Landry family members (played by Andie McDowell, Chyler Leigh and Sadie Laflamme-Snow) left some mysteries still to be solved at the end of Season 2. The good news is it will be back for Season 3. The bad news is we have to wait until 2025.

NCIS: Sydney (CBS)

The first season of this Australia-based military drama ended on a big finale cliffhanger back in January, so it comes as a great relief that CBS has renewed NCIS: Sydney for Season 2. Olivia Swann and other cast members expressed their excitement, and we’re right there with them. We can’t wait to see them take advantage of all the crossover potential with that fun team dynamic. 

The Bear (FX/Hulu)

The Bear has been an awards darling in its first two seasons, racking up Emmy Awards and Golden Globes with its smart scripts, emotional stories and dynamite cast that includes  Jeremy Allen White, Ayo Edebiri and Ebon Moss-Bachrach. As one of the best Hulu original shows available, it was no surprise to see it renewed for Season 3, and now it’s been announced that Season 4 will film back-to-back with the episodes set to premiere in June, per Variety. 

Snowpiercer (AMC)

TNT previously announced that it had made the “difficult decision” to not air Snowpiercer’s fourth season, despite the fact that it had already been completed. AMC has since announced it will make Seasons 1-3 available to stream on AMC+ later this year, as well as air Snowpiercer's final season on AMC and AMC+ in 2025. 

Real Time With Bill Maher (HBO)

Bill Maher has made a career out of being politically incorrect, and he will continue along that path with HBO, as his talk show has been renewed. Real Time with Bill Maher — which dives into current events, politics and everything media- and pop culture-related — will continue for another two seasons, with the latest renewal taking the series through 2026.

Fire Country (CBS)

Fire Country has been a hit for CBS since its 2022 inception, so while its Season 3 renewal wasn’t a big surprise, it was still cool to see the cast light something on fire in celebration. The series saw a jump in viewership at the start of its second season after an already-successful premiere cycle, prompting a quick re-up for the drama. 

Congratulations to the fans of all of the series listed above. It can be tough out there in the TV world, and it's good to know there are more stories to be told when it comes to these shows.

The 2025 premiere schedule makes it clear when looking at offerings from celebrity chefs, one stands out as potentially the most revered in the foodie-friendly subgenre, even if some less savory four-letter words may be involved: Gordon Ramsay. Whether it's dispensing business-saving advice to restaurateurs in need, or weighing in on whether or not pineapple belongs on pizza, Ramsay remains one of the most popular chefs on television with a litany of programming to prove it.

While it often seems like at least one Gordon Ramsay-starring show is on the air at any given moment, there are indeed gaps between seasons in many cases. So here's our lineup of everything currently on the air, everything yet to come, and other programs that are done for now and are available for streaming. Ramsay is known for his criticism, but I think he’d have no notes about this fantastic list of offerings.

There's no denying that the British chef has found a way to ensure he's on the tube quite frequently throughout the year with a wide variety of shows, whether he's doing the cooking or railing on others behind the stove. Here are the shows that are currently airing:

Hell's Kitchen

Hell's Kitchen is one of the longest-running Gordon Ramsay programs on television and has featured many surprising moments throughout its run. The series kicked off Season 23 in late September, and fortunately, we already know that Season 24 will be happening in 2025. I’m grateful, because seeing two teams take each other on in unique cooking challenges has become one of reality television’s greatest challenges.

What Gordon Ramsay Shows Are Coming To Television?

Gordon Ramsay might be the only professional chef with more television shows than Guy Fieri, and that's not a bad thing. Sure, there may be some similarities from the multitude of shows he's bringing to the back half of 2024 and beyond. But let's be honest, if viewers didn't like the general premise, they wouldn't still be on television. As such, here's a lineup of all the shows on the way for the new year, all of which feature Ramsay doing what he does best.

MasterChef (To Be Confirmed)

MasterChef closed out Season 14 this year, and what a season it was. The popular cooking competition that pits amateur and home chefs against each other for the coveted title of "Master Chef" had a Generations-themed season, and after many weeks of fierce competition, it was business owner Michael Leonard who ended up winning it all. While Fox hasn’t officially announced that the series will return for Season 15, it would be very surprising to find out the massively popular show would be canceled.

Gordon Ramsay’s Food Stars(To Be Confirmed)

Being a great chef is a part of being a success in the food world, but being a great businessman might even be an even better asset. Perhaps this is why Gordon Ramsay started his Food Stars series, which focuses just as much on the successful business side as on food quality. Season 2 wrapped on July 24th, with Jess Druey taking home the $250,000 prize. There’s no official word just yet on Season 3, though it wouldn’t be surprising to see one of the more diverse offerings from Ramsay get another season.

Next Level Chef Season 4

With its third season having wrapped in May 2024, Next Level Chef will return to Fox for Season 4 likely in the 2025 premiere schedule. Next Level Chef will return for Season 4 as Gordon Ramsay, Nyesha Arrington, and Richard Blaishelps mentor three teams who compete in a stacked kitchen space of varying qualities. The top level is the best kitchen, the middle standard, and the lowest full of equipment that could be better. It's a fun premise, especially for those who like to see skilled chefs competing against whatever challenges they face. CinemaBlend's Alexandra Ramos called it Ramsay's best show in years for a myriad of reasons.

Kitchen Nightmares (2023)

Kitchen Nightmares continues Gordon Ramsay's attempt to save restaurant owners from financial ruin. The show has dealt with everything from people who inherited the business from their parents and don't know how to run a business to even worse nightmare situations than that. The series was revived by Fox for a revival season in 2023, and there’s reports that another season is in the works as of 2024. So far, though, no official word has come from Fox on that front.

MasterChef Junior

MasterChef Junior hasn't been on as long as the flagship series, but fans love it just as much. Deadline reported the spinoff, which has showcased talented young cooks like the late Ben Watkins, recently wrapped up will return for Season 9. We’re still waiting on the official word for whether or not it will return for Season 10 or not, so keep on the lookout for a premiere date and whatever awesome young talent will take a shot at becoming the next MasterChef.

Gordon Ramsay: Uncharted

Gordon Ramsay: Uncharted is a bit different than the usual offerings from the chef, as the National Geographic series follows him on a journey through some of the world's most remote locations in search of the best culinary dishes and cultural experiences that can't be found anywhere else. Some might think this is similar to shows Anthony Bourdain did back in the day, though Ramsay would be happy to contest it. While there hadn’t been a season since 2021, Studio Ramsay brought back the series for Season 4 recently and readers can stream it with a Disney+ subscription.

What Gordon Ramsay Shows Have Ended?

Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end. The good thing is that in this case, a good deal of these former Gordon Ramsay shows are either available to stream on Tubi, with a Peacock Premium subscription, or somewhere else. It's often said that the United States and the United Kingdom are two countries divided by a common language. They are also two countries that share a lot of entertainment crossover. When Hollywood tries to adapt hit British shows, both of those things are true. Sometimes the best British shows adapt perfectly, sometimes, they totally bomb in the U.S. Here is a list of times Hollywood tried to adapt British shows, and what the results were. 

The Office

The British version of The Office made Ricky Gervais a worldwide star. When it was adapted by NBC for the U.S. market fans were skeptical. The U.S. version quickly forged its own identity, after lifting quite a few jokes in the early episodes. Michael Scott (Steve Carell) is a doofus, like Gervais' David Brent, but he's not as mean, and the show has a softer heart than the British version. 

American Idol

Pop Idol was a runaway hit in the U.K., so it was only a matter of time before it was brought over to the U.S. In fact, the same team that made it a success in Britain, creator Simon Fuller and judge Simon Cowell, came with it, and brought American Idol to Hollywood. The rest, of course, is history. 

Shameless

The British Shameless debuted in 2004 to wild acclaim and ran for 139 episodes over 11 seasons. About seven years later to the day, the American version premiered on Showtime. It was a huge success, running for a total of 134 episodes, also over 11 seasons. 

Cuckoo

BBC Three had an immediate hit on its hands with Cuckoo. Season 1 revolves around Andy Samberg as an American hippie who is a fish out of water after marrying into a typical British family. Samberg left the show due to other commitments after the first season, but the show continued to be a success for four more seasons. That success was impossible to ignore, and in 2015 NBC ordered a pilot, with Michael Chiklis and Cheryl Hines starring, though the show wasn't picked up. 

Top Gear

Around 2010, one could make the argument that BBC's Top Gear was the most popular TV show in the world. It was shown in dozens of countries each week and was wildly popular in its home country. That led to international versions all over the globe, including the first American version, which ran for six seasons, starting in 2010. A reboot, Top Gear America, aired for three more seasons starting in 2017. 

Dancing With The Stars

Dancing With The Stars wrapped up its incredible 32nd season in December of 2023. It's hard to believe the wildly successful show has been on since 2005. DWTS was born from the also-massively successful Strictly Come Dancing in the U.K., which first aired about a year earlier, in 2004, on BBC One. 

Skins

During its seven-season run on E4 in the United Kingdom, Skins proved to be both controversial and very popular. That popularity led to an American version produced and aired by MTV in 2011. The controversy followed Skins, but the popularity did not and the show was canceled after just one season. 

Veep

HBO's Veep ran for seven amazing seasons, winning countless awards, and again proving HBO is the most consistently great network for original content. The Julia Louis-Dreyfus vehicle was based on a British show, The Thick of It, which, like Veep, was created by Armando Iannucci, and was similarly lauded over its four-season run. 

Dear John

NBC had a magical run of successful sitcoms in the 1980s and '90s. One of those, Dear John, starring Judd Hirsch, was taken from a popular British sitcom of the same name (not to be confused with the Taylor Swift song, also of the same name). Both shows revolved around a recently separated man trying to find his way by joining a divorce support group. 

Undercover Boss

Undercover Boss has been one of the most popular shows on American television for years now. Like so many other reality shows, it has its origins in the U.K. It started small there, with just two episodes in the first series in 2009, but it, like the U.S. version, has also been wildly popular in the years since. 

Antiques Roadshow

Is there anything more quintessentially British than Antiques Roadshow? First airing on BBC One in 1979, it has since aired hundreds and hundreds of episodes. It took a while for the Americans to get on board, but in 1997, PBS launched its version and it too has now aired hundreds of episodes. The format remains very popular on both sides of the pond. 

Cracker

The British detective show Cracker, starring the late, great Robbie Coltrane, has an enduring legacy in the U.K. The same cannot be said for the American version, starring the late Robert Pastorelli, which aired for less than one season in 1997 and 1998. 

Us & Them

Us & Them was a very short-lived sitcom starring Jason Ritter as Gavin and Alexis Bledel as Stacey. Originally intended to air on Fox in 2013, it didn't see the light of day until seven episodes streamed on Crackle in 2018. In the U.K., the show it was based on, Gavin & Stacey, helped make James Corden a star. 

House Of Cards

For American viewers, it might be hard to believe a show as American as House Of Cards would come out of a British series, but it did. The Netflix drama was inspired by a mini-series of the same name, itself based on a book, that first aired in the U.K. in 1990, and followed a similar plot line and production style. 

Too Close For Comfort

Keep It in the Family was a popular sitcom in the early 1980s on ITV in the U.K. The concept of a patriarch living in a house with his daughters in an attached apartment proved a success in the U.S. as well when it was adapted as Too Close For Comfort starring Ted Knight. 

Ghosts

When the 2023 Writers Strike halted the production of CBS's hit Ghosts, the network filled the airtime with the British show it was based on, also called Ghosts. Both shows have proven to be wildly popular with critics and viewers alike, on both sides of the Atlantic. 

Mad Dogs

The psychological thriller Mad Dogs launched on Sky1 in the United Kingdom in 2011 and had a successful five series run. The U.S. version starring Ben Chaplin, Billy Zane, and Michael Imperioli, however, was less successful. Despite solid reviews and what seemed like a decent audience on Amazon Prime, Mad Dogs wasn't picked up for a second season by the streamer

Trading Spaces

It's hard to understand why someone would choose to go on Trading Spaces. It sounds like a nightmare to have someone else decorate your house. Yet, the concept has been a hit on both sides of the Atlantic. First with the British show Changing Rooms, then later with Trading Spaces.

Life On Mars

The best word to describe the BBC series Life On Mars is "cool." The show, about a police officer who goes back in time to the '70s, oozed cool. 1970s Manchester, England was a wild place and the show depicts it brilliantly. The U.S. version, which aired in 2008 and 2009, was less cool. Despite some great sets and great performances from all the stars, it just didn't have the same cool factor and didn't work as well. 

MasterChef

Gordon Ramsey may be English, but he's a star in both countries. One of his biggest hits in the U.S. is MasterChef, a show that first aired in the U.K. in 1990, though he's never been a judge on his home country's version. Still, the format has worked in both the U.S. and the U.K. for years now. 

Payne

One of the most beloved shows in British television history is Faulty Towers starring John Cleese. The show, though just 12 episodes in total, has remained a favorite for decades. There have been multiple attempts to recreate the show in the United States over the years, including Payne, starring John Larroquette. The show lasted just nine episodes on CBS in 1999 before being canceled for low ratings. 

The Great American Baking Show

There is no question that The Great British Bake Off is wildly successful in both the U.K. and the U.S. The American version, The Great American Baking Show has been less of a success, but still somewhat popular. It just doesn't have the same charm as the original. 

Kitchen Nightmares

Who doesn't love watching Gordon Ramsey take apart entitled restaurant owners in Kitchen Nightmares? The show, which was revived in 2023 as Fox went all in on Ramsey after a nearly decade-long hiatus, was born from Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares, which was a hit in the U.K. The shows are similar in format, Ramsey visits a failing business and helps revive it, but the tone of the shows are very different. Gordon is much more bombastic in the U.S. version. 

Free Agents

Free Agents is a weird one. It was a moderately successful show on Channel 4 in the United Kingdom, but not enough, one would think, to warrant a go in the United States. Yet, in 2011, NBC did have a go, and the results were unremarkable, as the show was canceled after just four episodes aired. 

The Minister Of Divine

The Vicar of Dibley is one of the most popular British sitcoms of all time. It's even been a hit on PBS in the United States. It is also uniquely British and the idea that it could be adapted in the U.S. is, frankly, silly. Yet, that's exactly what Fox tried to do in 2007 with The Minister of Divine starring Kirstie Alley. It was, predictably, a bomb, airing just the pilot episode and nothing else. 

Not Necessarily The News

HBO has been putting out great original content from its beginning and one of the earliest examples was Not Necessarily the News, which aired throughout the '80s. It was basically a comedic fake news show, and was based on hit British show, Not the Nine O'Clock News.

Queer As Folk

The cultural impact of Showtime's Queer as Folk was monumental. The show pioneered showing same-sex relationships on U.S. television. The British version of the same name did similar in the U.K. It starred a young Charlie Hunnam and Aidan Gillen in the U.K., and the drama translated perfectly to U.S. audiences. 

Hell's Kitchen

Hell's Kitchen was created by Gordon Ramsey in 2004 for ITV in the United Kingdom. The bombastic TV star left the show to other chefs after the first season when he brought the concept to U.S. televisions in 2005. The show has gone on to massive ratings ever since. 

Sanford And Son

Yep, that's right, even a show as American as Sanford and Son has British roots. the Redd Foxx-led '70s sitcom that lived on for years in syndication was inspired by the British show Steptoe and Son from the BBC in the mid-1960s. 

All In The Family

No show defines 1970s America like All in the Family. It highlights everything right and wrong about America, but it isn't uniquely American. Creator Norman Lear, who died in 2023 at age 101, based the show on Till Death Us Do Part, which was a popular BBC sitcom in the '60s. 

Who Wants To Be A Millionaire

Even game shows have been imported from the British Isles to North America. The most notable is Who Wants to Be a Millionaire. Launched in 1998 in the U.K., it wasn't long before a U.S. version was created, debuting with massive ratings in the summer of 1999. More than 3,000 episodes of the American version have aired since then. 

Gracepoint

The murder-mystery show Broadchurch was very successful during its run on ITV in Great Britain. Even though it was shown on BBC America, it was never very popular in the U.S. Still, that didn't stop Fox from ordering a limited series called Gracepoint in 2014. It even brought in one of the stars of Broadchurch, former Dr. Who star David Tennant. It was a moderate success. 

The Prisoner

The 1960s ITV sci-fi show The Prisoner is one of those shows that even if you don't know it, something you love was probably inspired by it. Long considered one of the most influential shows in television history, it was finally rebooted for an American audience in 2009 in a joint production between AMC and ITV, starring Jim Caviezel as Number 6. It was cool, but not nearly as impactful as the original. 

Sometimes the ideas work and sometimes they don't, but you can be sure that ideas and content will continue to flow back and forth between the United Kingdom and the United States. We can't wait to see what happens in the future. 

There are a lot of great streaming services out there today, including some, like Tubi, that don’t cost you a penny and don’t require you to sign up for an account where you have to worry about ever-changing password-sharing rules or other issues impacting subscribers. Sure, you won’t find the latest and greatest shows from the 2023 TV schedule on the robust platform, but hey, it’s free, incredibly easy to navigate, and is home to some of the medium’s best shows, both from yesterday and today.

With shows like Lovecraft Country, Hell’s Kitchen, and Columbo, it’s easy to see that the platform has a remarkable collection of series, and a ridiculous variety at that, making it a great place to watch an episode, two episodes, or entire seasons in a long weekend binge session. Here are a baker’s dozen of free TV shows streaming on Tubi. 

Lovecraft Country 

A big hit with horror fans upon its release in August 2020, the HBO original series, Lovecraft Country, followed Korean War vet Atticus “Tic” Freeman (Jonathan Majors) as he traveled through the Jim Crow Era American South in search of his missing father. Fully expecting to deal with racism and attacks from White America in his journey, Tic had no idea what supernatural horrors awaited him and his fellow travelers.

Unfortunately, Lovecraft Country only lasted one season at HBO. The show, however, did further propel Majors’ career, which is now in overdrive with 2023 movies Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and Creed III.

Alfred Hitchcock Presents 

Though known mostly for movies like Psycho, Rear Window, and other classic suspenseful thrillers, Alfred Hitchcock also had his own long-running anthology series in the mid-20th century. Similar to The Twilight Zone and other horror anthology series that followed its release, Alfred Hitchcock Presents featured various short stories telling all kinds of tales with some kind of twist. The show also featured then-up-and-coming talent like Clint Eastwood, Robert Redford, and even Ricardo Montalbán.

The series ran for a total of 10 seasons starting in 1955, and episodes from the first and seventh seasons are currently available to stream for free on Tubi.

The Fall 

Beginning in 2013, before Jamie Dornan was receiving awards consideration for his performance in Belfast, hell, even before he became a major star with the Fifty Shades movies, he played a complex serial killer named Paul Spector on Allan Cubitt’s Irish crime drama, The Fall. Throughout the series, Spector, a family man by day, and sadistic murderer by night, was hunted by DSU Stella Gibson (Gillian Anderson), a brilliant yet complicated investigator who took extreme measures in her quest to capture the killer.

All three seasons of The Fall are streaming for free on Tubi, which makes now a great time to check out one of the best crime dramas of the past decade.

Roots  

Released in 1977, Roots was and remains today one of the greatest TV events in the history of the medium, with its story of Kunta Kinte (LeVar Burton and John Amos), a young man taken from Gambia and sold into slavery in the American South, whose unbreakable spirit and quest for freedom carried through multiple generations of his descendants.

The entire miniseries, which earned 37 Primetime Emmy nominations and won nine, is streaming in full on Tubi right now. If you, for one reason or another, have yet to watch one of the most iconic series of all time, now is the time to change that.

Columbo  

One of the best mystery shows of all time, the long-running crime series, Columbo, followed Peter Falk’s titular Los Angeles homicide detective as he got to the bottom of countless murders in the “City of Angels” week-in and week-out over the course of 10 seasons (as well as multiple specials).

With the show (which began in 1968) experiencing a resurgence thanks to Rian Johnson’s “case of the week” crime series, Poker Face, there’s never been a better time to jump on the Columbo train and watch every single episode for free on Tubi.

Hell's Kitchen

There are cooking competition shows and then there is Hell’s Kitchen, which turns up the heat and adds Gordon Ramsay’s high stand standards, volatile temper, and mastery of every four-letter word in the book. Like many of Ramsey’s other programs, Hell’s Kitchen is an obsession for a lot of people for a number of reasons that varies from person to person.

If you’ve never watched an episode of Hell’s Kitchen (and it's still going strong with 21 seasons) or are just looking for a reason to go back and watch it all from the beginning, you can do so, as the entire series is available for free on Tubi.

The Carol Burnett Show 

Between 1967 and 1978, The Carol Burnett Show was one of the most popular and consequential sketch comedy shows on TV, and that remains the case more than a half-century after the hit variety series first debuted on CBS. Alongside Burnett appeared Harvey Korman, Vicki Lawrence, Lyle Waggoner, and numerous others in a seemingly never-ending list of hilarious skits and bits that laid the groundwork for shows like Saturday Night Live and countless others.

The entire 11-season run is available on Tubi right now, which is perfect for those who want to know more about the legendary entertainer and the show that bears her name, especially after her great run on Better Call Saul.

The Jeffersons

One of the longest-running sitcoms in the history of TV, The Jeffersons broke new ground for the medium throughout its 11-season run on CBS. The series, which was a spin-off of All in the Family, followed George (the late Sherman Hemsley) and Louise Jefferson (Isabel Sanford), an African-American couple, who, due to the success of their business, were able to move on up to the East Side of Manhattan from Queens, breaking all kinds of barriers along the way.

Though you can’t watch the entire 1975-1985 series run on Tubi, the platform does have the first two seasons available for free right now.

Cowboy Bebop

Before being turned into a short-lived live-action series on Netflix, Cowboy Bebop was a landmark anime series that introduced a new generation to the genre at a time in the late 1990s when the artform was at a peak. This hip and beautifully animated series follows a group of bounty hunters as they traverse the Solar System taking on one job after the next while also avoiding danger lurking around every corner.

The entire series is available for free on Tubi, and the purists will be happy to find out that it’s the subtitled version of the classic anime.

The Dark Side Of The Ring 

There are few wrestling documentaries or docuseries that go into the level of detail about the most notorious names and infamous events in the squared circle than the Vice original series, Dark Side of the Ring, which began in 2019. Whether it’s breaking down the short life of Bruiser Brody, the exploits of New Jack in ECW, or the tragic story of the Chris Benoit double-murder-suicide, the series offers a no-holds barred approach to life, death, and professional wrestling.

The first two seasons of Dark Side of the Ring are streaming for free on Tubi, and hopefully the third season isn’t too far behind.

Mr. Bean  

Before writing classic romantic comedies like Four Weddings and a Funeral, Noting Hill, Bridget Jones’s Diary, and Love Actually, Richard Curtis got his start on the small screen with classic British TV shows like Blackadder and Mr. Bean, both alongside Rowan Atkinson. Between 1990 and 1995, Atkinson’s silent and accident prone character found himself in all sorts of trouble at the local pool, the laundromat, and just about everywhere else on the face of the Earth (as well as on an airplane), creating comedy gold in the process.

The Hour 

The BBC Two period drama series, The Hour, told the story of the launch of a new current affairs news show, the first of its kind, and the major players who brought the idea to fruition. With incredible performances by Ben Whishaw, Romola Garai, and Dominic West, The Hour highlighted one of the most exciting times in the history of broadcast journalism and the impact it has decades later.

Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey

Released in 2014, Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey took what influential astrophysicist Carl Sagan achieved with his landmark educational series from the early 1980s, and brought it to modern times with dazzling special effects, incredible stories, and a personal presentation by Neil DeGrasse Tyson. Though much flashier and more sophisticated than the original Cosmos: A Personal Journey, this continuation of the brand captured the same spirit and sense of wonder.

The entire series is available right now on Tubi, and is one that shouldn’t be missed, even if science, or the study of the heavens, is not your thing.

After his employment is mysteriously terminated and he suddenly finds himself stuck in Miami, a former secret agent (Jeffrey Donovan) uses his pristine set of skills to make a living as a private investigator with the help of his trigger-happy ex-girlfriend (Gabrielle Anwar), a former military intelligence agent (Bruce Campbell), and, occasionally, his own mother (Sharon Gless). Also one of Bruce Campbell’s best TV credits, creator Matt Nix’s Burn Notice is all the fun of a James Bond movie without ever leaving the Sunshine State and one of the most popular series to ever air on USA.

Hannibal (Plex)

A gifted FBI profiler (Hugh Dancy) enlists the help of a renowned criminal psychologist (Mads Mikkelsen) – both as an aid to his investigations and his own mental health – not realizing the doctor has a dark secret of his own. Inspired from the chilling novels by Thomas Harris, creator Bryan Fuller’s Hannibal is an instant crime drama classic (and one of the best shows streaming on Plex) for its breathtaking visual style and unapologetically disturbing tone.

Spaced (Tubi)

A recently dumped, aspiring comic book illustrator (Simon Pegg in his star-making role) and a quirky woman in a long-distance relationship (Jessica Hynes) pretend to be a couple in order to rent an affordable apartment in London. Despite having a seemingly typical setup for a sitcom, the acclaimed UK import Spaced is bursting with originality, due largely in part to the dazzling visual style of director Edgar Wright.

30 Rock (Peacock)

The head writer of a sketch comedy series (creator Tina Fey) frequently butts heads with her overbearing new boss (Emmy winner Alec Baldwin) and the show’s unpredictably wild new star (Tracy Morgan). The irreverently witty, wonderfully meta, and brilliantly acted 30 Rock is one of TV’s sharpest media satires and one of the best shows streaming on Peacock for free (except for Season 2).

Sherlock (Crackle)

A doctor (Martin Freeman), still reeling from his service in the Afghan War, rents a flat with an arrogant private detective (Benedict Cumberbatch) whom he accompanies on various mysteries burdening London. From co-developer Steven Moffat (who also revived Doctor Who in 2005), Sherlock is a whip-smart, consistently thrilling, modernized retelling of the work of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.

Night Court (Freevee)

The regular staff for the late shift at a New York City court house are initially perturbed by their new young, eccentric, optimistic judge (the late Harry Anderson), until they come to accept his unconventional methods and treat him as a friend. From creator Reinhold Weege, Night Court is an unabashedly silly, snappy sitcom so beloved that an upcoming revival starring original star John Larroquette is coming to NBC.

Mystery Science Theater 3000 (Plex)

In the not-too-distant future, an average man from Earth (creator Joel Hodgson and, later, Michael Nelson) is forced by a mad scientist (Trace Belieau and, later, Mary Jo Pehl) to live on a satellite with a group of sarcastic robots and watch low-grade sci-fi movies. Poking fun at cheesy, B-level cinema has never been more wonderfully weird and endearingly enjoyable than on Mystery Science Theater 3000, which would later inspire a Netflix-exclusive revival from 2017 to 2019.

Mad Men (Freevee)

A prestigious advertising agency struggles to keep up with the rapidly changing culture of the 1960s, as seen mostly through the eyes of one womanizing executive with an eye-opening backstory (Emmy winner Jon Hamm). Created by The Sopranos writer/executive producer Matthew Weiner, Mad Men takes the viewer to another time that it deconstructs with stunning zeal through the intriguing stories of its enigmatic characters.

Saturday Night Live (Peacock)

For anyone who loves sketch comedy series, the most iconic and quintessential example of the like is, undoubtedly, Saturday Night Live, which has served as a starting point for many of the most successful comedy careers of all time and has allowed some of Hollywood’s biggest stars to show off their more humorous sides as guest hosts for decades. Buffy The Vampire Slayer (Roku Channel)

An unassuming high school student (Sarah Michelle Gellar, in the role that made her one of greatest horror Scream Queens ) discovers that she is recruited to help protect her new small town from strange and deadly supernatural phenomena. A darker reimagining of a silly horror-comedy of the same name, Buffy the Vampire Slayer is one of the best TV shows of the ‘90s and continues to fascinate fans of horror, fantasy, and modern, grounded coming-of-age stories.

Soap (Tubi, Crackle)

Two sisters and their respective immediate families – one upper class and the other working class – run into a series of increasingly fervent and bizarre situations, including everything from the consequences of extramarital affairs to alien abductions. Taking a shot at the common tropes and typically extreme storylines of daytime soap operas, Soap was an exceptionally groundbreaking sitcom for its time and helped launch the career of a young Billy Crystal in the late ‘70s and early ‘80s.

Weeds (Peacock)

Following the sudden death of her husband, a suburban stay-at-home mother (Mary-Louise Parker) turns to selling marijuana in order to support her two sons and struggles to avoid judgment from her overbearing neighbors, jail time, or even a grisly death along the way. From Jenji Kohan – also the creator of Netflix’s Orange is the New Black – the Showtime original dramedy Weeds is as much of an extremely sharp suburban satire as it is a thrilling ongoing crime serial that is still as compelling as ever, even at a time when its concept is a bit outdated.

Coupling (Freevee)

A man (Jack Davenport) and his girlfriend (Sarah Alexander) form a group with their respective best friends (Richard Coyle and Kate Isitt) and their former significant others (Gina Bellman and Ben Miles) who typically spend their days frequenting their favorite pub and swapping stories about their struggles with modern romance in London. Created by Steven Moffat, Coupling is one of the funniest and most cleverly honest sitcoms to originate in the UK and, while it’s often compared to Friends or How I Met Your Mother, I might be inclined to put it a spot above either of those American favorites.

Quantum Leap (Roku Channel)

After his top-secret time travel experiment goes “a little ka-ka,” a brilliant physicist from the future (Emmy nominee Scott Bakula) must involuntarily embody one person from the past after another in order to prevent tragic events from happening, all while hoping each time that his next leap will be the leap home. Also starring Dean Stockwell as Dr. Sam Beckett’s holographic aid and best friend Al, creator Donald P. Bellasario’s Emmy-winning NBC drama Quantum Leap is one of the most inventive and heartwarming sci-fi TV shows of its time.

I don’t know if you know this, but I’m pretty obsessed with cooking competition shows. 

Straight up, I could watch them for hours on end, as they not only inspire me to keep learning how to cook incredible dishes, but entertain the heck out of me with some funny moments. One particular person I’ve been obsessed with is Gordon Ramsay and his Fox cooking shows- specifically Hell’s Kitchen. 

For 20 seasons, this cooking competition show has brought the heat to the kitchen with incredible moments, spicy feuds, and so much more. From the beginning of the show to the latest seasons, here are some of the biggest and craziest moments on Hell’s Kitchen so far. 

“Where’s The Lamb Sauce?!” (Season 2, Episode 1)

Arguably, this is one of the most memed moments of the show, and for good reason. During Season 2, Episode 1 of Hell’s Kitchen, the contestants were trying to serve lamb without a particular sauce that is supposed to pair with it. After a series of mistakes, Gordon understandably explodes and asks his chefs “Where’s the lamb sauce?!” over and over again, upset at their constant errors. 

It’s one of the funniest moments of the show, hands down, but no matter what, nothing can quite beat the delivery that Gordon gave it. 

When Gordon Almost Got Into A Fight With A Giovanni (Season 5, Episode 10) 

Giovanni on Season 5 of Hell’s Kitchen had some talent, but in the end, what got him eliminated was when he talked back to Gordon, which is a big no-no. In Episode 10, Giovanni was being yelled at by Gordon during dinner service due to poor performance, calling Giovanni a “dickface” and telling him to clean up his act. 

Giovanni, however, fought back, and this enraged Gordon, so much so that he got up in the man’s face and threatened to eliminate him right then and there. This ended up being Giovanni’s last dinner service on Hell’s Kitchen, so it looks like there was some truth to that threat. 

Kimmie And Robyn’s Constant Feud (Season 10)

Season 10, is one of my favorite seasons of Hell’s Kitchen, specifically because of this feud. Robyn and Kimmie were two contestants on the season and from the beginning, these two were constantly butting heads, whether by trying to get the other eliminated, throwing the other under the bus, or by other means. 

It’s hard to pick out a singular moment with how often they were going at each other, but they were certainly not the best of friends. 

When Gordon Punched Salmon (Season 16, Episode 4)

Because sometimes, you need to take out your aggression in some type of way. 

Season 16 of Hell’s Kitchen started off easily, but Episode 4 is where things really started to heat up in the kitchen. When Gordon is brought a less than adequate salmon from his chefs after several failed attempts, he slams his hand directly down onto it, smashing the salmon into pieces. 

As someone who has cooked salmon many times, with recipes from many different kinds of cooking shows, it pained me to see such a beautiful fish go to waste, but that’s what happens when you upset the master chef himself. And, while we’re singling out this particular moment, Gordon has smashed many salmon in the past out of anger. 

When Gordon Made Out With A “Contestant” (Season 7, Episode 1)

For those who don’t know, Gordon Ramsay is a married man and has been for over two decades now, so when this happened, it was quite the surprise at first. In Season 7 of Hell’s Kitchen, during the first episode, Gordon takes a particular interest in a woman with dark hair, complimenting her several times, hugging her, kissing her on the cheeks and then finally, kissing her full on the mouth. 

This isn’t that surprising later on, because it’s revealed moments later that it was actually his long-time wife, Tana Ramsay, in disguise, so everything is good in loveland here!

And When Gordon Called Siobhan A Donkey (Season 7, Episode 8)

Gordon has had some interesting insults throughout his time on Hell’s Kitchen, but for some reason this one always stands out to me the most. During Season 7, Episode 8 of Hell’s Kitchen, Gordon is snapping at a contestant, Siobhan, for her less than stellar scallops that she produced, insulting her and calling her a “donkey.”

It’s so funny always to hear him call someone that, but this moment was one of the first times we ever see him use this insult and the way he says it is always so freaking hilarious.

When Joseph Tinnelly Confronted Gordon During His Elimination (Season 6, Episode 2)

Look, I’m always a fan of fights, whether in movies or TV, but I was genuinely nervous for Gordon during Season 6, Episode 2 of Hell’s Kitchen. During elimination, when Gordon was confronting Joseph Tinnelly for his poor cooking skills and “shitty” attitude, Joseph decides to take that personally and storm right up to Ramsay, insulting him and trying to provoke him into a fight after being eliminated from the show.  

Gordon, being the professional he is, doesn’t start a fist-fight with Joseph, who is taken away by security, all while Gordon curses him out with a string of insults that would make a sailor blush, as he walks away. It was such a tense moment. 

When Gordon Insulted A Customer And Says He Looks Like “A Quail” (Season 7)

The biggest rule of going to Hell’s Kitchen is not to expect the food to come out soon, or for the food to be perfect at first, because things just happen. When something bad occurs, just politely tell someone to bring back the food and it’ll come back right. 

But, a customer in Season 7 decided to confront Gordon personally, getting up from his table and walking to the kitchen, saying that the meat he received was “low-grade dog food” at best. Obviously, Gordon was quite insulted by this and told the customer to “fuck off” before saying that he looked like “a quail.”

I didn’t know someone could be called a quail as an insult, but coming from Gordon, it most certainly is. 

When Jeff Insulted Gordon and Stormed Off (Season 1, Episode 3)

One of the most infamous moments in Hell’s Kitchen history happened during its third episode ever of Season 1. Jeff, one of the contestants, got fed up with Gordon insulting him for his poor cooking and called Ramsay an “asshole.” After that, he took off his jacket, and stormed off the set. 

And, not just that; he quit the whole competition. It was the last we ever saw of him. But you know what they say - if you can’t take the heat in the kitchen, better get out. 

When Gordon Told Every Black Jacket To Get Out Of The Kitchen (Season 4, Episode 10)

For those who don’t watch Hell’s Kitchen, the show starts off with two teams, red and blue, and by the end, is combined into one when the black jacket team is selected, with the finalists for the season who'll compete for the grand prize. These are supposed to be the cream of the crop, best of the best chefs. 

Which is why this moment is so huge.

In Season 4, Episode 10, when all the black jackets were selected, everyone on their first dinner service kept making mistake after mistake, and soon, Gordon ordered everyone out of the kitchen and that the service be shut down. Considering that, at this point, these are supposed to be the best competitors left, this was a huge miss and showed that sometimes, people don’t work well together. I’ll never forgot Gordon’s upset face.

Hell’s Kitchen will hopefully be returning soon - maybe even popping up on the 2022 TV premiere schedule - since it has been renewed for a few more seasons. Hopefully, we’ll be able to add even crazier moments for us to talk about before long.  

Gordon Ramsay has become a Fox network super star. He’s been creating shows with the network for almost two decades and the partnership seems stronger than ever. His first Fox TV show, Hell’s Kitchen, has already aired 20 seasons, and been renewed through Season 22. Fox and Gordon Ramsay have been a successful partnership that hopefully doesn’t end anytime soon.

In 2022, his latest Fox TV series, Next Level Chef, premiered, and I loved it, flaws and all. It just basically confirmed what I’ve always known: I’m obsessed with Gordon Ramsay TV shows. If Gordon Ramsay’s name is attached to a TV show, I’ll be streaming it on Tubi or Hulu once it's available. There is a reason why Gordon Ramsay and Fox continue to make great TV shows and I keep watching them, they're great entertainment. Here’s why I think these shows are must-watch television and why I can’t stop watching them. 

You Never Know What Gordon Ramsay You're Going To Get

Gordon Ramsay is most famously known for yelling at people, throwing stuff, and being a generally terrifying boss. He got this reputation because of his Hell’s Kitchen persona. However, if you watch enough Gordon Ramsay TV shows, then you know Yelling Gordon isn’t the only side he shows on television. He’s often kind and patient with the contestants on MasterChef Junior. He’s also more of a mentor on MasterChef than he is an angry boss. Even on Hell’s Kitchen, he’s calmed down a lot, and he’s pretty nice to the contestants that he sees working hard and learning.

There being so many Gordon Ramsay TV shows means that fans get to see multiple sides of him across all the shows. It’s also just fun as a viewer to not know which Gordon will come out in any given episode. He could be fun and goofy one minute, and then screaming at someone to get out of his kitchen the next moment. 

It Feels Like There Is Always A New Show Or Season Available To Watch

After Next Level Chef wrapped up its first season, I didn’t get a chance to miss it, because MasterChef Junior premiered its new season not so long after the other show ended. This is a pattern with Gordon Ramsay's TV shows. Once one ends, another one will soon premiere. You rarely get a chance to miss the man.

Additionally, Hulu and Tubi both have plenty of his Fox TV series to stream, so if you have missed one or skipped a few seasons, you can still find plenty to binge on during the rare occasions when Fox isn’t airing a new season of a Gordon Ramsay cooking show.

The Stories Of The Contestants Or Featured Restaurants

I’ll watch any show with Gordon Ramsay’s name attached, but mainly because I can rely on him to produce interesting and entertaining cooking competition shows. In general, I love cooking TV shows, but they are not all created equal. One thing many Gordon Ramsay cooking shows do very well is making you care about the contestants. For weeks, we watch as these contestants improve, learn, and use their hearts and minds to produce standout dishes.

You genuinely care when the single mom from Nebraska makes it to the end and takes home the title. You tear up when a blind chef beats the odds and wins the MasterChef title. You cheer so loud when one of your favorite contestants wins Hell’s Kitchen. These TV shows take you on a journey with these contestants, which makes the end results so much more meaningful or infuriating — depending on how it all ends. With so many seasons of Gordon Ramsay shows, you also get to take these emotional and frustrating journeys a lot. 

There Is A Gordon Ramsay Fox TV Show For Every Type Of Cooking Show Fan

The thing that makes Gordon Ramsay’s Fox TV shows easy to continuously watch is that they’re not just repeats of each other. Hell’s Kitchen is about rookie chefs trying to prove they have what it takes to manage major restaurants, MasterChef and its spin-offs are about homecooks trying to prove they have the same skills as professional chefs, Gordon Ramsay’s 24 Hours to Hell and Back chronicles Gordon revamping a failing restaurant in 24-hours, and the list goes on and on.

These shows have some overlap, but they’re varied enough to appeal to cooking competition fans, restaurant makeover show fans, and inspiring cooking show fans. The only cooking show market that Fox and the chef haven’t cornered is instructional cooking shows--though he does post plenty of instructional videos on his official Youtube page. Maybe we’ll get a "how to cook with Gordon Ramsay" TV show on Fox one day. 

Gordon Ramsay's Chemistry With The Other Judges

Gordon Ramsay has had guest judges and series regular judges who are world renowned chefs and bakers. A few of the judges his fans have seen appear with him on these TV shows are Nyesha Arrington, Richard Blais, Christina Tosi, Graham Elliot, Joe Bastianich, and Aarón Sánchez. Ramsay brings a different dynamic with whichever chefs he works with on his TV shows.

He could be competitive, friendly, funny, or whatever mood matches the show’s tone. If you get bored with seeing Gordon all the time, judges like Arrington and Blais bring a freshness that gives a show like Next Level Chef some of the uniqueness that’s needed to keep these Gordon Ramsay shows from becoming bland.

The Food We Get To See Made

Gordon Ramsay’s daughter may not be a huge fan of his cooking, but I would love to try it. I would love to try many of the dishes featured on MasterChef and other Gordon Ramsay cooking shows because they often look and sound delicious. Luckily for fans of shows like MasterChef, there is often a cookbook to learn how to make some of the dishes, especially the ones made by the each season's winners.

These shows do a great job of making me, and others, want to try these dishes and hunt out Gordon Ramsay's restaurants. The TV shows definitely make sure that the TV dishes appeal to all our five senses even without having the meals in the room with us as we watch.

I am someone who will probably watch Gordon Ramsay TV shows until he retires from American TV. Hopefully, this never happens, because I can’t wait for Hell’s Kitchen Season 43 and MasterChef Season 75.

During these many months of quarantine, we’ve all been stuck at home, trying to stay safe while binge-watching so many TV shows that it’s sometimes hard to keep track, from fantasy series to some of the best shows on Amazon Prime or Hulu. However, one thing I’ve learned that I love is actually cooking shows - specifically, cooking competitions.

There’s just something about the competitiveness of contestants and some of the amazing (or not so amazing) food items they make, to the prizes at the very end - these cooking competitions always seem to capture my eye, and have also made me want to be a better cook. From classics like Hell’s Kitchen and Top Chef, to newer ones like Sugar Rush and Nailed It!, these are some of the best cooking competition shows that you can stream right now if you’re looking for some good TV and some good food.

Hell’s Kitchen (Hulu)

In this popular cooking competition show, several chefs of various levels compete on the red or blue team in Hell’s Kitchen, cooking for celebrity chef Gordan Ramsey. The chefs are eliminated challenge by challenge, until one is crowned with a massive cash prize, and the cooking opportunity of a lifetime.

This has always been my favorite cooking competition show. There’s just something about it, which explains why it’s been running for 20 seasons now. From the very creative challenges, to the chemistry between contestants, to the memes that Gordan Ramsey’s anger can produce, you can never quite beat it. Now, where is the lamb sauce?!

Halloween Wars (Discovery+)

Food Network has come out with some awesome cooking competition shows, and Halloween Wars is one of the best. Five teams are made up of cake sculptures, sugar artists, and pumpkin carvers, who are pitted against each other to produce the ultimate Halloween display and win a cash prize of $50,000.

Look, I freaking love Halloween. I love watching the best horror movies, I adore the Halloween franchise, I will spend hours baking Halloween treats when this time of year comes around, so you know I had to include a great show like this. What really makes this one stand out is the inclusion of professional pumpkin carvers. You never really think of them as someone who could be on a food competition show, but they are actually phenomenal, and give this holiday-themed show a charm that none of the others have.

Sugar Rush (Netflix)

Hosted by Candace Nelson, a co-founder of Sprinkles Cupcakes, Sugar Rush features four professional teams of two, competing in a baking competition to win a prize of $10,000, during three rounds - cupcakes, confections, and cakes.

Sugar Rush is certainly a standard cooking competition show. I personally don’t think that there’s any crazy razzle dazzle that’s added to it. But, what I really love about Sugar Rush are the creations that these bakers come up with. They are truly outstanding, with so much personality and thought put into everything, from even the tiniest cupcake to their biggest cakes. It’s like art but on another level, because sometimes you can’t even believe that some of their things are made with food. They’re all super talented.

Guy’s Grocery Games (Discovery+)

Hosted by chef Guy Fieri, Guy’s Grocery Games features four chefs competing in a three-round elimination contest, cooking good with ingredients found at a grocery store, while Fieri poses unusual challenges for them. The winning chef of each episode can earn up to $20,000.

What I like about Guy’s Grocery Games the most is definitely the host himself, Guy Fieri. He has such a creative mind which makes these challenges that he gives these chefs so fun. From certain price limits to weight limits, to crazy dishes and food that chefs can’t even touch, his challenges are always entertaining.

Top Chef (Peacock)

In this classic cooking competition, Top Chef features chefs competing against each other in many culinary challenges, who are then judged by a panel of professional chefs and other notables from the food and wine industry, with a contestant (or more) getting eliminated each episode.

Top Chef is an excellent example of what a reality cooking competition should look like. Amazing food, awesome contestants, valuable feedback from the judges - and the guest judges themselves are amazing. We’re talking about big stars in the culinary world, like Wolfgang Puck, Emeril Lagasse, Graham Elliot and many others. There’s a reason why there are so many spin offs of this show after many years on the air. It’s truly awesome.

Iron Chef America (Discovery+)

In this adaptation of the Japanese show of the same name, Iron Chef America features a new competitor each episode, who is competing against one of the resident “Iron Chefs” in a one-hour long cook-off based on secret ingredients, or a theme, or other big surprises.

I think what I like about Iron Chef America is that it doesn’t hold itself back from being just a standard cooking competition. Instead of putting amateur cooks up against one another, they are putting regular people up against some of the best chefs in the world. It creates this air of suspense to see if someone is actually going to beat them, out-flavor them, or do anything that might get them to be the next Iron Chef. Alton Brown is an incredible host, and really pushes along the competition with charisma and style - and some great cooking skills to boot.

Masterchef (Hulu)

Another Gordon Ramsey-created project, Masterchef collects several talented unknown chefs in a long competition to see who is going to become the next Masterchef, win a large cash prize, and possibly the culinary chance of a lifetime, going through crazy challenges, intense cookoffs, and many more moments of insanity.

Masterchef is another show that I personally relate to a little more than some of the others on here, because it usually features regular people. While shows like Hell’s Kitchen or Iron Chef often feature professionals in the business, Masterchef is stay at home mothers, firefighters, dog trainers - just regular people who have a true passion for cooking. The way they interact with food reminds me of Jon Favreau’s film, Chef, because they truly love the culinary world, and want to make it big, and this might be the best chance for them.

Chopped (Discovery+)

In this popular series, Chopped features four chefs, who are put up against each other as they compete for a chance to win $10,000.

Hosted by Ted Allen, Chopped is a great show because of its one big twist - every single competition, each food item has strange ingredients, ones that would never really go with anything. It’s up to the cooks to somehow make these weird food items work, and to advance into the next round. Some of these things are so interesting and creative, it makes me want to try them at home, but they have more talent in one of their fingers than I do in my whole entire body, so I’ll leave the cooking to them.

The Great British Baking Show (Netflix)

In this popular British baking competition, The Great British Baking Show follows a group of accomplished bakers who are competing against each other in a series of challenges, attempting to impress a group of judges with their baking creations, and trying not to get eliminated to reach the final round.

I feel like everyone has heard of The Great British Baking Show at least once. From the charismatic contestants to the hilarious judges to some of the funny moments that come out of this show, The Great British Baking Show will not only impress you with some of these people’s baking skills, but will make you smile and laugh.

Nailed It! (Netflix)

Last but not least, we take a look at Nailed It! This popular Netflix original show features several ametuer bakers who are tasked with recreating insanely hard and intricate baking designs in a timed bake-off, and whoever nailed the design the best wins a cash prize after two rounds.

This one is definitely the most relatable show for a reason. We all wish we had the baking skills but in reality, most of our creations would probably turn out like these contestants' do - and that’s totally okay, because it’s hilarious. Nicole Byer (who was actually just in the Vivo voice cast) hosts and slays every episode with funny bits and hilarious moments, and the rest of the show is entertaining and full of laugh-out-loud worthy baking creations. Truly, one of the best shows on Netflix.

God, talking about all these cooking competition shows has made me hungry. While I go and make a sandwich, you decide which show you want to watch. No matter what you pick, you will be entertained and rooting on the contestants just as I have - and probably be hungry afterward, as well.

The summer months used to be one of the slowest periods of time in the world of TV, but with a myriad of streaming services abandoning the traditional model of premiering their shows exclusively in the fall and spring months, the Summer 2021 TV schedule is absolutely stacked. Over the the course of the next three months (May, June, July), subscribers to services like Netflix, Amazon, Disney+, and multiple others will see countless shows (both new and returning) land on their streamer of choice with the likes of Loki, Selena: The Series Season 2, and Stephen King’s Lisey’s Story all landing throughout the season.

But this doesn’t mean it is all quiet on the traditional TV front as The CW will see the long-awaited return of D.C.’s Legends of Tomorrow, the summer premiere of Riverdale, and more throughout the summer. And then you have all of the exciting competition shows, docuseries, and specials that populate the TV listings at the year’s midpoint. Below is a breakdown of all the shows coming to your TV and streaming devices this year.

Fox's Hell's Kitchen is getting ready to embark on its eighteenth season, which means more cooking action. Over the course of the show's history, which dates back to 2005 in America, the series has witnessed its share of heated moments in the kitchen, and inevitably the countless insults the show's host and star, Gordon Ramsay, has given contestants. All of which begs the question: after thirteen years, what does Ramsay consider his biggest insult? Well, this what Ramsay had to say:

So, the infamous "idiot sandwich" insult did not make the cut. While his first answer was pretty tame, he got more intense with his second pick. "Idiot sandwich" arguably falls somewhere in between both of the ones Gordon Ramsay cited to EW, although it's worth noting that the "idiot sandwich" moment came from a late-night sketch rather than an actual episode of Ramsay's show. Ramsay's answer to the initial question regarding his favorite reprimand does offer tremendous insight with him beginning by explaining what the biggest insult a chef can hear is. And future contestants would be wise to take note because it is a common-sense tip. Do not lie!

Gordon Ramsay provided a prime example of the lies he has caught people in, and it was claiming that patrons finished meals that they had actually asked to be carted away. A definite big no-no. As Ramsay points out, coming equipped to play the role of a competent chef is not going to be a benefit.

That is, having the fanciest equipment is no benefit if you do not have the skill-set necessary to utilize the high-priced assets. Why someone who cannot slice and dice something properly would want to throw their chef's hat in the ring, let alone make a big purchase to support said move, is anyone's guess. But this is reality television, folks. So, stranger things have happened.

In his interview, Ramsay went on to say that he did not have any regrets over the things he has said to contestants over the years. Saying that when he has watched himself on television, he has not anything where he would think of himself as being a "dick."

On a related note, Gordon Ramsay was also asked if there are any things that he is no longer allowed to say to contestants. To which he asserted that while the "climate is changing," he has not ever said anything "so below the belt." So, it does not sound like there has been any censorship.

Gordon Ramsay sounds pumped about the new season, calling it "the best" installment so far. Season 18 will pit rookie talent from the culinary world against the series' All-Stars. So, it is about to get hot in the kitchen! Season 18 of Hell's Kitchen premieres Friday, September 28 at 9 p.m. ET on Fox. Let the cooking commence! As for other television options, Hell's Kitchen is one of many other shows set to arrive this fall, including ones on Fox's schedule.

Hell's Kitchen may be a phenomenon for FOX, but there are some people who aren't so hot on the cooking competition show. In fact, one well-known chef is actually speaking out against the program. Jacques Pepin has a definite opinion of the show that does not include any praise for the way his beloved profession is shown. Here's what he had to say.

Wow. Yeah, Jacques Pepin is pretty unhappy about the way Hell's Kitchen portrays chefs and professional kitchen staff. Pepin wrote about his thoughts on the reality competition for The Daily Meal, and revealed that he actually thinks the general mood in the kitchen is something that a large portion of the shows in that category get wrong. And, if you've never heard of Jacques Pepin and you believe the guy has it all wrong, you should know that he's been a chef for almost 60 years, hosted several cooking shows on PBS (including one with Julia Child), written 25 cook books, co-founded the American Institute of Wine and Food, and won many awards for his work as a chef, including a Daytime Emmy for his show with Julia Child and the James Beard Foundation Lifetime Achievement Award. So, you know, maybe listen to the guy when he talks about how a good professional kitchen is run.

In Jacques Pepin's experience as a chef, the "cruel rivalry and conflict" frequently shown on these cooking competitions simply isn't something that you'd see in a professional environment that's being run the way it should. He is right that that type of conflict is exactly what makes good ratings and high drama for a show like this, though. The competitors aren't the only ones who get heated, either. Anyone who's only seen clips of Hell's Kitchen knows that host Gordon Ramsay has been known to turn red in the face as he yells at and belittles the chefs that he believes have screwed up beyond reason. Pepin also had this to say:

Man. I love that Jacques Pepin is not holding back. He clearly feels that cooking competition shows like Hell's Kitchen need to be stopped. Of course, his feeling that many of these shows are "totally unreal" is something that most people see as being a general problem in reality TV. So, he's not alone in thinking that reality television shows could use a very specific type of reality check.

Reality shows have been a staple of American life for almost two decades now, and there are basically only four types of such shows: day-in-the-life, talent competition, dating show or endurance/athletic competition reality show. Whether they’re pushing their bodies to the physical limit, singing their hearts out or having dinner parties and arguing for all the world to see, sometimes the show cannot go on for some of them.

The annals of reality show history are filled with people who get injured or ill and have to wrap up the their part on the show early. Let’s take a look at some of the reality show participants over the years who’ve had to check out of their series because medical issues got in the way.

Tamar Braxton – Dancing with the Stars

Dancing with the Stars is exactly the type of show where you’d expect competitors to be sidelined by health issues. But, sometimes, instead of those health issues being directly linked to the competition, there’s an underlying problem that’s simply brought to the surface because of the physical nature of the show. Tamar Braxton dropped out of Season 21 of the dance show due to the presence of blood clots in both of her lungs. Unfortunately, that diagnosis led her doctors to another issue, thoracic outlet syndrome. The condition causes problems with the veins and blood vessels in the chest area and neck because of compression. After leaving Dancing with the Stars, Braxton even had to have one rib removed to relieve the pressure.

Chuy Bravo - Splash

At some point in our lives, most of us have done something we know we shouldn’t do and ended up getting hurt because of it. Well, Chuy Bravo, best known as the host’s assistant on Chelsea Lately, did exactly that while competing on ABC’s 2013 high diving contest Splash. During the very first taping of the show, Bravo jumped up on a table in the lounge near the practice pool. Sounds like fun…until the table broke, he fell to the ground, and ended up breaking his heel bone. Obviously, he was out for the entire season before it even really got started.

Renee Graziano – Mob Wives

Sometimes the filming of a reality show just comes at a bad time in a person’s life, and their health suffers for it. Late in 2015, five-year Mob Wives veteran Renee Graziano left the show for health reasons that included the health of some of her family members. During the filming of Season 6, Graziano had to be rushed to the hospital, where doctors discovered she was dehydrated, had low potassium levels, unbalanced hormone levels and seriously low blood pressure. Graziano was also trying to deal with her mother and father’s medical conditions; they had been diagnosed with lupus and cancer respectively. Those three issues combined, plus stressors from the mega-drama filled show, led her to leave and focus on herself and her family.

Robert Hesse – Hell’s Kitchen

Things can quickly turn scary when real real life interrupts a contestant's time on a reality show. Executive Chef Robert Hesse found out what that was like during his tenure on Season 5 of Hell’s Kitchen in 2009. During Episode 11, the remaining chefs were flown to the Borgata Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City to dine with the hotel’s vice president of cuisine and see what their future place of employment would be like, should they win the competition. Shortly after the meal began, Hesse had to leave the table and said he was having chest pains. After being evaluated at a hospital, he was diagnosed with pericarditis (an inflammation of the fibrous sac surrounding the heart) and had to leave the show. He was invited to return for the next season, where he was the eighth chef eliminated out of sixteen.

On a show like Survivor, where contestants face serious potential health concerns on a daily basis, it’s not surprising that some of the players have had to leave the show due to Survivor related issues. Earlier this year, during Season 32, titled Survivor: Kaôh R?ng, three contestants collapsed during a challenge. Caleb Reynolds was the third to find himself overwhelmed by the combination of heat and activity. Host Jeff Probst was so worried by Reynolds’ condition, that he scrambled the crew of the show to help cool him down. Reynolds’ heat exhaustion was so severe that the medical team decided that he couldn’t finish the competition, and he was evacuated 22 minutes after he collapsed.

You know what Fox needs? Another Gordon Ramsay cooking show! Ok, not really, but it's getting one, and it actually sounds like it could be good. The title should clue you in to what this show is all about. Junior Masterchef is a new culinary competition series that has cooking enthusiasts between the ages of eight and thirteen attempting to show off their skills in the kitchen. News of this series order comes with word that Masterchef has been renewed for two more seasons. And Hell's Kitchen has been renewed for another season.

There certainly won't be any less Ramsay on Fox anytime soon. The celebrity chef has secured a new multi-year deal with the network. Included in that is Junior Masterchef, which is based on the British format, and will presumably work similar to Masterchef in having amateur cooks competing with one another. I can definitely see that working for a TV show, as I expect there are some great undiscovered kid cooks out there just waiting for a chance in the spotlight. Ramsay's known for his tough criticism, but there's a lot less yelling on Masterchef than what we might hear on Hell's Kitchen, or even Kitchen Nightmares, so I think the kids shouldn't have cause to worry there.

There's no mention of casting for the series, but if you know a kid with the kitchen chops to compete, you might try keeping an eye on Fox's casting page for updates.

The fourth season of the grownup version of Masterchef is set to debut on May 22. And now we know there are two more seasons lined up after that. As for Hell's Kitchen, the series is currently amidst its eleventh season, and it looks like it'll be back for a twelfth.

With Junior Masterchef joining Fox at some point in the 2013-2014 season, that puts five Gordon Ramsay TV shows on Fox. Junior Masterchef joins Masterchef, Hotel Hell, Hell's Kitchen and Kitchen Nightmares.

Tuesday night offered us the battle of the cooks, with Gordon Ramsay’s Hell’s Kitchen appearing on the schedule just as The Taste was finishing its short and often acidic run. Hell’s Kitchen won the night with a 2.2 rating, which is ironically the exact same rating The Taste earned with its Tuesday premiere. Unfortunately, in its finale, The Taste dropped all the way to a 1.1 rating. This is what happens when you eliminate three people an episode, ABC.

In other news, Golden Boy returned to Tuesdays after one dismal outing on Friday. I wouldn’t say that show is crushing, but a 1.6 rating isn’t the worse I’ve seen on CBS. According to THR, between Golden Boy and repeats of both installments of the NCIS franchise, the network averaged 11.2 million total viewers, which isn’t too shabby, even if the ratings numbers aren’t as great.

The rest of the networks were less impressive. ABC’s Body of Proof only pulled a 1.2 rating and over at NBC, new episodes of Betty White’s Off Their Rockers and Smash only averaged a .9 rating and 3 million total viewers across the night. The CW’s numbers fared even worse, thanks to the lack of original content on Tuesday nights. Now that Emily Owens, M.D. is cancelled, Hart of Dixie is the only anchor on Tuesdays and last night happened to be a repeat. I won’t even give you the exact numbers because the CW averaged way under a million total viewers last night. I will say that in reruns, the network only managed a .2 rating for the night. I think we’re pretty used to less-than-stellar ratings from the CW, but the network should never ever have a full night of repeats. It’s depressing.

Believe it or not, Hell's Kitchen kicks off its tenth season this Monday night. Once again, a group of people from varying culinary backgrounds will be split by gender and teamed up to compete against one another in an effort to win favor with celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay. Fox released a super-teaser for Season 10, which gives us a glimpse of all of the drama that awaits these contestants as they head into the kitchen.

Based on the trailer below, it looks like there's a lot of fighting and a lot of Gordon Ramsay screaming "Get out!" in store for the contestants this season on Hell's Kitchen. They're set up to compete against one another in the kitchen as they perform weekly challenges and later attempt to complete dinner service, a seemingly basic sounding task that often proves to be especially challenging. When they aren't competing, they're living together in the dorms and trying to get along. And it looks like the drama will spill over into their off-hours this season…

It looks like we're in for an intense season. On an aside, while I like how they only gave us bits and pieces of scenes in the above video, I didn't love the flashing-light effect between each scene. That might have worked with a shorter teaser, but with one that runs more than two minutes, the effect starts to wear on the eyes. That aside, I'm excited for Hell's Kitchen to get going this summer!

Hell's Kitchen Season 10 premieres Monday, June 4 at 8:00 p.m. ET on Fox.

For me, there’s only one dance competition worth counting down to each year, and it airs on Fox. So You Think You Can Dance is actually one of two reasons I love Fox in the summer. Hell’s Kitchen is the other. Both unscripted series were included on Fox’s 2012 Summer Premiere Date schedule.

Fox has Season 9 of So You Think You Can Dance set for a two-hour premiere on Thursday, May 24, after which it moves to its regular time-period on Wednesday at 8:00 p.m. (beginning May 30). Cat Deeley is set to return as host, with judges Nicel Lythgoe and Mary Murphy also returning. Guest judges will once again appear on the show as the summer dance competition gets going.

Meanwhile, a group of people of varying culinary backgrounds will compete against one another in Season 10 of Hell’s Kitchen when it premieres Tuesday, May 29. Season 3 of the other Fox summer cooking competition Masterchef will premiere on the same night immediately afterward. And if that double-dose of Gordon Ramsay isn’t enough for you, Fox is also set to premiere Hotel Hell, an unscripted series that will have Ramsay traveling around the country, visiting awful inns and bad bed & breakfasts in the hopes of turning them around. It sounds like the lodging version of Kitchen Nightmares. More information on that one is posted below the schedule.

As you may have noticed, there are only a handful of series listed. Fox says there’s additional summer premiere date information to be announced. Meanwhile, here’s Fox’s description for Hotel Hell, as promised...

Fox announced their Summer 2011 schedule, which includes the return of some popular unscripted series. While Fox’s summer line-up doesn’t appear to include any new shows, dance and culinary enthusiasts will be happy to see So You Think You Can Dance, Masterchef and Hell’s Kitchen on the schedule.

Fox’s popular dance competition series So You Think You Can Dance will kick off it’s eighth season with a two-hour premiere on Thursday, May 26th. A new set of aspiring restaurateurs will attempt to impress Gordon Ramsay when Hell’s Kitchen premieres its new season on July 19th. And Season 2 of the culinary competition Masterchef will premiere on June 6th.

Below is the full schedule, which includes the series that will be rerun throughout the summer.

We’re at the midway point of August and while that might mean the countdown to cooler weather and the return to school or work has already begun for some, it also means we’re just a few weeks away from the start of the new TV season. Up ahead is the primetime schedule for the Fall 2010 season.

Here we go again, Hell’s Kitchen fans. Time to figure out how these chosen contestants can claim to be cooks, or even more unfathomable, chefs. The season premiere of Hell’s Kitchen felt as if it were made for people like me who criticize the cheftestants each year on their silly mistakes. We were shown cooking demonstration videos, shots of the cooks reading what appeared to be a massive recipe book for the restaurant, and a lot of explanation of how much more difficult the reality of Ramsay’s kitchen is compared to sitting at home.

But I’m not letting these people off easily. Sure, that’s a big recipe book. It should be noted that they’re not making all of those items during dinner. In fact, the vast majority is made throughout the day preparing for dinner service. So no matter how thick of a recipe book you’re handed, you can glance at it as you make each item. That book is the bible of Hell’s Kitchen, and there’s no excuse to make anything when it’s absent.

I hope that we’re not going to travel down the same path as last year, but sweet lord do I have a deep desire to kick the people on this show in the throat when they mess up risotto or scallops. The rice is already 99% cooked before dinner service begins. All you have to do is build it in the pan according to what Ramsay’s recipe dictates. Dump items in a sauté pan, toss, add chicken stock, toss, when nearly done cooking “finish” with butter (I believe it was mentioned that the lobster risotto is finished with mascarpone). Check for seasoning, adjust, and serve. Two, maybe three, minutes and that dish is done.

And what cook doesn’t always have a hot sauté pan ready when it’s needed? The scallop problem on Hell’s Kitchen would be alleviated greatly if these people learned to have a hot pan nearby at all times.

I understand that there are additional pressures being on a network cooking show that acerbates the little normal kitchen issues into meltdowns. But come ready to do the basics, and you’ll be fine. At least you’ll get through.

We’ll get into the cheftestants themselves as the season goes on. To be honest I couldn’t differentiate between half of the girls. Blonde 1 is getting yelled at, now blonde 2. Oh, fire wing lady seems to be doing alright. Wait? Was that blonde 1 or 2 that was just thrown out of the kitchen? Never mind, they’re both gone anyways. I’m not saying all white people look alike, but damn I had a hard time with that.

Aside from the fake Italian American and the farmer who gave me a chill up the spine, the guys were quite banal. Salvatore (I think that’s his name) just strikes me as fake. He’s been in America for over 20 years and still has that accent for the women? It’s a caricature and I don’t trust him. You want a charming Italian accent on a chef, go watch Fabio on Top Chef.

Some girl that wasn’t the middle aged Fran ended up going home from the girl’s team tonight. But if the season premiere is an indication of the direction this year will take we’re all in for an exhausting summer.

The world of television is ever changing. Mostly having to do with reality stars and their “will they, won’t they” contract signing drama. But there’s a lot going on each week in TV, and not all of it’s good. We’ve decided that you, dear reader, deserve to have the most interesting of tales told laid out for you in a neat organized list form. You thought I’d crawled into my hole, never to return. I’m sure you did. But no, after a long hiatus that was taken up mostly by being in foreign lands we return you to your regularly scheduled TWIT. What better week for a return than the blunt force trauma that are the Upfronts? You may be wondering what the heck an “Upfront” is and the answer is deceptively simple: it’s when the networks are “up front” with everyone on how crappy most of their new shows are probably going to be. I’d enjoy bantering with you some more, but we’ve got a hell of a list to cover this week.

So You Think You Can Dance established Mary Murphy as a permanent judge because fans were at one point charmed by her kooky antics. But then shit got real and Murphy went from kooky to toys in the antic, and now we have Mia Michaels to bring sanity back to the judges panel. Incredulous as I am about Mia bringing sanity with her, I do appreciate that the woman knows her dancing. Jack Bauer has lost his mind, and it’s been replaced by supreme awesome.

You go to Hell! You go to Hell, and you cook me dinner!.

As a professional chef I find Hell’s Kitchen one of the most entertaining food shows on television. On one hand I like that the producers and Ramsey are giving an opportunity to some people who don’t have the skills or talent to pull off the prized job. Then there’s the fun aspect of watching people mess up some of the most basic kitchen skills. With a variety of culinary questionable and undoubtedly egotistical executive chefs season seven should be more of the same.

Paula Abdul drops dead from diva

It doesn’t matter who goes, because Crystal has already won.

I’m not concerned with whether or not Paula Abdul is going to be on television again. What I’m concerned with is that Lifetime is making original programming that doesn’t star Meredith Baxter Birney. American Idol doesn’t just suck, it’s simply boring. Crystal isn’t even a contestant on the show. She’s beyond what the other two finalists could even dream of offering.

I don’t know why the Losties have died, but what’s dead really on this show?

Give me Buffy vamps above anything else going on today, especially the travesty that is the Twilight saga. But if we have to keep one of these silly modern undead tales let it be True Blood in all its delicious titillation and earnest commands from Bill. I just wanted to mention we only have one more episode of Lost left, then we’re into the series finale. The episode is titled “What They Died For” and that means we’ll find out everything we wanted to know except a clear cut answer on what they all died for.

Whedon and Harris unite once again

Joss Whedon and Neil Patrick Harris came together and their joining produced Dr. Horrible’s Sing-A-Long Blog, and it was good. Now the two have penetrated their way onto Glee and will no doubt deliver oozing amounts of crazy goodness. I’m sure Whedon fans will be upset with the no vampire slaying or quippy space cowboys, but I like when the man takes on someone else’s baby and makes it his own. Whedon doing The Office was fantastic because he understood the show and didn’t twist it to his own predilections.

Colin Hanks has Bosom Buddies

I don’t know if The Good Guys is going to be decent. What I do know is I enjoy watching as the young Hanks takes a step back to maybe follow a little closer in his father’s footsteps.

Heroes is out and Chuck is still in. NBC has good decisions in them!

NBC has announced their entire fall primetime lineup, and things are looking pretty good. Not great by any means, but they still have Chuck. Parenthood is continuing on, despite some people I know being wrong in not liking this charming show. But what the hell is Community doing not getting one of two prime 9-10 slots on Thursday night? That show is leagues better than The Office or 30 Rock.

Hell’s Kitchen Season Seven premieres Tuesday, June 1, 2010 on Fox.

How bad has Hell’s Kitchen gotten this season? Sitting down to recap last night’s train wreck I actually fell asleep from lack of caring. That’s despite the men’s team turning David’s flub in the challenge into a different and intriguing fish dish. Let’s just get down to the carnage.

Chef Ramsey had each team roll a 12 sided die that had letters on it, with the challenge being to come up with complementary ingredients for a dish based on the letters. The women started strong with very classic combinations: rabbit, haricot vert, potato, garlic and ham hock. No way they could lose on this one. The men stumbled through their rolls, eventually coming up with something that could have been a travesty. Haddock, figs, angel hair pasta, apples and tomatoes. When Dave rolled an “F” I immediately shouted out “fennel!” The guys were pissed about the fig choice, but I’ve used figs in a fish dish before. I’m not sure why they were so upset because when done properly figs go very well with fish.

The women ended up serving a rabbit tenderloin and leg with a garlic-rosemary puree, which Tennille mentioned might have needed some sugar to balance out the overpowering garlic flavor. The guys made braised haddock with a tomato and fig sauce. Ramsey thought both dishes were delicious, but gave the guys the victory because of the unctuous garlic puree. While the girls unloaded the delivery trucks and cleaned the two kitchens the guys spent the night partying in Vegas.

So far there has been no sign of Robert, and the men couldn’t be happier. They’ve found that they’re working better as a team with him gone. As the guys begin prepping for service Robert walks in and is essentially ignored. To be honest I think the guy needed to stay gone and get himself healthy. I’m surprised that after last season leaving because of health problems he did nothing to fix his problems.

Dinner service had a special twist with the inclusion of chef’s tables, which included chefs from Ramsey’s restaurants. Other than being seated in the kitchen, these weren’t really chef’s tables. A chef’s table is where you sit in the kitchen and the chef prepares a special meal for the guest based on their likes and dislikes. This was just the typical menu served up inside the kitchen. Dave started strong with an impressive risotto, while Ariel under seasoned and over seared her scallops.

Last night also started getting us ready for the end of the season as we now see that once the chaffe is completely gone there are only maybe two or three people with a chance to win. First up on the not quite not good enough block will be Van. Why? While he’s a decent cook he has no focus. Van sends out wax on his fish not once but twice. This is a multi-thousand dollar fine for a restaurant. It’s not an innocent oops or an overcooked meal. Van’s mistake is a huge issue. And it’s really lucky for Van that Ramsey wasn’t listening as he spoke with the chef’s table. Mumbling, fumbling, and unable to describe the dishes he had available it was an embarrassment.

The women spent most of the dinner service under the radar with very little problems. I’m fairly certain that Ramsey was yelling at Amanda, despite the wait for her food not being her fault in the least, just to have something to yell about in the Red kitchen during service. As service came close to the end Robert tried to send out raw food, which caused Ramsey to shut down the Blue kitchen.

Dave was chosen as the best of the worst and ended up nominating Robert and Van. But Ramsey tells Andy to come down as well, and immediately tells Van to get back in line. Robert gives an impassioned speech about how he’s glad Andy is there too. Ramsey tells Andy that he doesn’t see the executive chef at Whistler standing before him. He then turns to Robert and tells him to leave.

Ramsey says the decision came down to the raw food being put up despite Robert having so many services under his belt in Hell’s Kitchen. My thought is that Robert’s health was too big of an issue and either Ramsey decided to end it there.

I’m starting to have trouble with Hell’s Kitchen. Where I once relished chef Ramsay’s vitriolic diatribes against the incompetent contestants I now just endure these moments. It’s certainly possible that the complete ineptitude of this season’s cast has something to do with that. I continuously look for a frontrunner, someone whom I can connect and root for, and come up short week after week. The best I have to hope for is Kevin, who I honestly think has gotten some favorable editing and commentary from the voiceover guy. Full from a sauté of fingerling potato, zucchini, grape tomato, snap peas, shallot, garlic and chicken in brown butter I sat down tonight to endure yet another hour of the once great Hell’s Kitchen.

This week starts with Ramsay pulling Amanda aside to tell her once again that she looks defeated, and then requests her to turn it around. Following that mini-drama is your weekly dose of childish antics as Robert proclaims the women “done” after another loss, which means the women will likely win tonight, and Tennille continuing to try and convince anyone that she’s a good cook. Thankfully we get right to the challenge event.

The teams are tasked with making a 3-course meal (appetizer, entrée, and desert) with a cumulative 700 calories. I’m not behind a calorie counting menu per se, but there is a lot of skill involved in making such a dish look and taste fantastic. A basic understanding of flavor and combinations goes a long way in putting together a healthy meal. Robert has the best line of the night saying that he takes “700 calorie bites.” We’d already assumed so, Robert.

Nutritionists are brought in to weigh ingredients and ensure everything comes in under 700 cals. Luckily for the red team Sabrina works with calorie counts in her daily job, thus allowing her to formulate a quick menu for the gals to execute. Meanwhile the blue team gets done with two course ideas and clock in at over a thousand calories. Their answer? Cut food out. Do these people have Masters Degrees in extreme laziness? In what small part of anyone’s brain on the red team did removing food from the plate equate to a winning idea? Both teams are able to finish their entire menu, and now it’s time to determine the winner based on taste.

The guys clock in at 597 cals and the girls at 694. Ramsey likes the appetizers from both teams, and I agree that they do look pretty decent. Then the ladies come up with their entrée, a ricotta stuffed pork chop, which led to chef Ramsey commenting on the brilliance of portion control. This just makes the unveiling of the men’s limp entrée all the more sad. It’s a thin cut of pork served with bland veggies fit for a child. Put it in one of those divided platters and I would have sworn the men tried serving a TV dinner. The girls’ fruit bowl with a lemon ricotta cream was vibrant and refreshing. It was also really tasty looking. The men served a penis. No, that’s not fair…the men served a sad, flaccid, penis. The women won the challenge and spent the day on the beach with Olympic gold medal winning volleyball star Annett Davis. The guys had to prep both kitchens for service that night.

During prep for the day Sous Chef Scott calls the boys outside where they find a ridiculous six passenger bike. The guys follow Scott as they head to the store to pick up items for service that night. Part of the torture is a ride up a steep hill that has all of the guys struggling. And now I stop and think that while Robert doesn’t deserve special treatment for letting himself be so overweight, there is the factor that his health forced him off the show last season. Was it really necessary to do this to the guy? Of course he feels dizzy and weird upon returning to the kitchen and is rushed to the ER. Chef Ramsey informs everyone that Robert won’t be part of the service, and then the doors open.

Blue Team’s Service: Is a complete disaster. Jim decides to pour pepper into the risotto, which disgusts Ramsey. He then doesn’t season the replacement. He then can’t make risotto. He then decides to make a scrapbook of his time over last summer in Spokane, Washington. Or at least he should have done something other than try to cook food, because well after an hour into service Sous Chef Scott jumps in and makes the damn risotto. To top it off Andy still can’t take orders when they’re called to him. Dave starts cooking the wrong garnishes for the entrees (yup, entrees did sort of start going out tonight), which leads Kevin to do one of his trademark exasperated yelling fits. To show he’s consistent Andy still can’t get the orders right, and keeps messing up the halibut.

Red Team’s Service: Maybe you thought I split this portion up this week to show how superior one team was over the other? Not a chance. Ariel starts by serving mushy scallops. I’m done with the risotto mishaps, now I’m flabbergasted at the inability to sear a scallop. You take a scallop, season it, and put it in a hot pan with oil. Cook until a nice crust forms, then flip it and either finish in the oven for a few minutes or cover the pan. Not hard at all. Then Tennille makes enough spinach for all of the orders called in, which prompts Ramsey to call her a cow and to cook the food to order. To make up for her mistake Tennille decides to make enough mashed potatoes to serve my nephew. Finally this episode Ramsey is truly pissed and throws her out of the kitchen. Then the two of them get into a heated argument as Ramsey tells her to shut up and listen. Either she doesn’t care or she does, prove it by walking or taking control of the station. At least Tennille has the respect and temerity to go back and try, which can’t be said for a lot of the contestants that come on Hell’s Kitchen.

Meanwhile the champion of the challenge, Sabrina, is having her own problems. First a chicken goes inexplicably missing. Then she sends out raw pork. In her haste to redo the chicken Sabrina butchers the chicken.

Ramsay shuts down the kitchen and declares both teams the loser. One person from each team is to be nominated for elimination. Sabrina says she did horrible, but she also didn’t walk off the line and leave her teammates alone. Tennille says that Ramsay kicked her out, and when given the choice to come back and help she did. It’s definitely not Tennille’s night to be up for elimination. With the guys it’s a clear choice between Jim and Andy, but Jim plants the idea of Robert missing a service being a bigger issue. Wow, there is no way they’d have the balls to pull a stunt like that.

Sabrina is nominated for the women, and when Van is asked who the men nominated he enquires where Robert is. Ramsay says that it’s not fair to judge someone based on performance if they were not there, and that if Robert doesn’t make the next service he will indeed be gone. So Van nominates Andy. The pleading proceeds as usual, and then Ramsay says that the person leaving tonight has no passion to continue. He then points to Jim and tells him to take the jacket off. Sometimes I wonder what the point of the nominations are when many times Ramsay eliminates the one person who he feels was the weakest, even if they weren’t nominated.

I like to grab my meat firmly, tee frickin’ hee. As tonight’s episode starts up Ramsay tells the contestants that they need to work better as a team. Personally I just think they need to work better as cooks first, then we can worry about teamwork later. Chef Ramsay forces the contestants to pair up, most often with their arch nemesis on the show, in order to make a perfect sausage. New fact: Ramsay prefers a nice six inches. Who says Gordon Ramsay isn’t an average fellow?

More than what happened during the competition I’m wondering exactly how many cock references are going to appear in recaps throughout the web. I’m not above such puerile humor, so look elsewhere for insightful sausage making commentary. The ladies appear to be at a disadvantage because none of them have experience making sausage. But as the challenge begins it becomes clear that these ladies really know how to handle meat products. Surprisingly the team of Suzanne and Tennille produces some quickly made and decent quality items for Ramsay’s approval. Robert and Jim are the only pair that cannot produce a single strand of sausages for contention. Girls win and are treated to a day of sausages and beer that doesn’t include guys wearing only a bowtie. The boys are given the yearly task of cleaning the dorms.

Now let’s take a quiet moment to sit down with our old friend Robert. The mountain of a man has what can only be described as a tweeny hissy fit. When confronted about not producing any sausage he flips out, and then we get more of his confessional where he talks about being put down his entire life. Look, you un-jolliest of giants, I feel for your lifelong plight. I have no doubt people put you down and kicked you emotionally. But sous chef Scott had it right, you need to show the fight and passion in the kitchen where it matters. I rooted for you last season, but you still have to earn the right to win this show. Either do so and shut up about it, or don’t…and shut up about it.

During prep for the fourth night of service Dave is called upstairs for a phone call with the doc. He’s told that due to the fracture he’ll need an arm length cast that will prohibit his thumb from moving. Dave discusses his options with chef Ramsay and ends up deciding to try and stick it out with only one hand. Not being his dominant hand he’ll be able to do a lot of kitchen tasks, but at some point very soon this is going to be an issue.

Tonight’s dinner promised celebrity diners. Did I miss a memo where chef Ramsay became irrelevant in the food game? Tom Green, John O’ Hurley, Dwight Freeney, Drew Lachey, and Kristy Swanson took time out from charging $20 for an autograph on the street corner next to the guy selling oranges to grace the Hell’s Kitchen stage. No word on where Eagle Eye Cherry might have been, but I’m betting on being dead. They certainly couldn’t be any more inconsequential.

And now cooking fans, we cry. Kevin puts up some impeccable fish, so bravo for him. Keep watching because Kevin and Van are competitors. By which I obviously mean that they don’t cock up everything they touch during service. Andy has some struggles. By which I obviously mean that…what in the frickin’ hell is going on? That had to be an editing thing where the show makes Andy look worse than what was reality. Right? One lamb, two lamb, three lamb, four lamb…I’m not counting sheep. For what we’re to assume is a single table Andy keeps sending up improper product.

To be honest I thought the ladies were doing generally better tonight than the guys, despite Lovely’s deer in a headlights stare when chef Ramsay asks what is being put up. In the end it comes down to who finishes first with the guys just eeking out a win. A fact that Suzanne calls into question during the after service lineup. There’s no harm in trying, especially since you have to consider that Ramsay can only be in one kitchen at a time and if both teams send up the final table at the same time it simply comes down to where he’s standing.

Chef picks Sabrina as the strongest of the weak and tasks her with putting up two nominees. No surprise that Lovely is up again, it doesn’t even matter who stands next to her (hint: it’s Tek). Lovely is finally sent home as we all sigh with relief and wonder which of these incompetents are next.

During the fifth season of Hell’s Kitchen, contestant Robert Hesse of Quogue, New York had to leave the show due to heart complications. If you caught last night’s premiere for the sixth season of the cooking-competition reality show, then you already know that Robert has been given a second change.

Robert made his departure from the fifth season of the series, not due to poor performance in the kitchen, as is the normal way to be sent packing on that series, but due to a heart condition that made him unfit to continue the season. During last night’s season premiere, when things weren’t going so well for the men’s team, Ramsay went down to the dining area and asked Robert if he wouldn’t mind abandoning his table for a little while and helping the guys out. Afterward, because Robert performed well, Ramsay invited him back to the show as a contestant. Below is a video featuring Robert discussing his return to the show and one of Ramsay talking about why he wanted to see Robert back.

About the picture to the right: This is the third season of Hell’s Kitchen. It’s a dependable summer show that garners decent ratings—decent enough so that Fox built upon that and made an American version of Ramsay’s BBC show Kitchen Nightmares. The picture at right is a from a promo that aired during this episode of Hell’s Kitchen for the second season of Kitchen Nightmares on Fox. Do you notice anything weird about it (other than the fact that I’m completely ghetto and took a picture of my TV with my cameraphone)? Like, perhaps the fact that they SPELLED HIS NAME WRONG? Unbelievable.

Last week: Jen should have been eliminated, but “The Black Gordon Ramsay” didn’t provide enough drama, so he got the ax instead.

We begin this week’s episode with everybody reeling from Ramsay’s decision to keep Jen. For her part, Jen’s trying to play nice to get some people on her side. It doesn’t really work.

The next morning, Ramsay gathers the final four in Hell’s Kitchen for the challenge. He looks at them and reiterates that one of them will become the executive chef at his brand-new restaurant. They do a weird cutaway from Ramsay at this point; my guess is so the viewers can’t see him choking down the bile that is surely rising at this prospect.

Apparently this challenge is the hardest challenge yet: Each chef will come up with a dish and cook it for 80 customers—but they’re not just any customers (of course). Ramsay doesn’t say who they are, just that he would bend over backwards to make them happy and that their comments will decide who wins. He gives them one hour to cook and any ingredients they want to use.

Jen may not be making friends in the kitchen, but she did endear herself to me a little bit when she said Petrozza’s sandwich looked like a “heart attack dipped in a stroke with a side of cardiac arrest.” My boyfriend to the TV: “That’s what it’s supposed to be!” I think he was drooling at the time.

Cooking time is over and it’s time to see who’s coming to lunch. I have no idea who it could be—and I never could have guessed that it’s a group of 80 pregnant ladies. I don’t really get the point of this, but it’s hilarious. Jen’s excited because pregnant ladies will pretty much eat anything. She’s totally right about that. I don’t even eat meat, but if I were in that room, I would be very, very excited.

Oooh, guess who just made it onto my shit list? Corey. Corey who is convinced that she has the ability to use her sexuality to her advantage, despite no supporting evidence, interviews that this is the worst challenge ever. Not because she’s unprepared, but because instead of men, the customers were “bitchy pregnant women.” As far as this bitchy pregnant woman is concerned, you can suck it, blondie. Team Christina!

After lunch, all of the votes are tabulated and Ramsay tells the chefs the results. It may be just me, but he definitely looks like he’s trying not to laugh when he informs Corey that she came in dead last. In third place, unsurprisingly, is Jen’s grouper. It’s down to Christina and Petrozza, and only two votes separate the winner. Christina’s sandwich ends up taking the win. For her reward, Ramsay is taking her shopping in Beverly Hills. Meanwhile, the losers get to spend the day cleaning the dining room.

So this prize is really weird to me. Ramsay takes her in a limo to the Lisa Kline store, where Lisa herself is waiting to dress her. It’s all very Pretty Woman and weird and what would they have done if Petrozza had won? Did Petrozza win? Is this a conspiracy? Dun dun DUN! It keeps on getting awkward when Christina does a fashion show for Ramsay and he tells her to shake out her hair and take off her glasses. What the hell is this? Did they base this reward on some kind of crazy Hell’s Kitchen fan fic?

Meanwhile, back at Hell’s Kitchen, Jen and Corey are whining about how they should have gotten the prize because they have more fashion sense than Christina. Now I know we don’t see them out of their chef’s uniforms very often, but I see zero evidence of this fact.

Dinner service gets off to a good start with Jen making “stunning” risotto and Ramsay proclaiming it “the best start they’d ever had.” Things quickly take a turn for the worse, when the next risotto that Jen sends out has mushed rice. The rest of the appetizers get sent out, and they move onto entrees. Then--disaster strikes!

Okay, maybe not disaster, but Christina brings a very hot pan up to the front and neglects to tell Ramsay that the handle has been over the flame, so he grabs it and burns the crap out of his hand. Oh no. Inflicting bodily injury on a potential employer is never a good sign. So what can be worse than that? The fact that she does it again almost immediately. It’s unbelievable. What’s even more unbelievable is that he doesn’t kick her right out. I guess he really liked it when she shook her hair out for him earlier.

Despite the maiming, dinner service chugs along with only a few problems. Jen is being bratty and not helping out her team, Corey tries to send out some undercooked fish (which promptly gets sent back) and Petrozza is still the pigpen of Hell’s Kitchen. Despite the mishaps, dinner service is completed in record time.

For the first time, the post-service meeting is actually nice. Ramsay is downright giddy when he tells them that this was their best service ever. The euphoria doesn’t last for long though, as Ramsay sends them upstairs to come to a consensus as to which two should be nominated for elimination. They all write two names down and Christina and Jen end up getting nominated.

At elimination, Christina tells Ramsay that Jen is the first nominee. Instead of Christina going up, Christina says that Corey is the second nominee. Why on earth did Corey agree to this? With Jen and Christina being nominated, Corey is guaranteed to be safe. Jen sucks and Christina maimed him! Why would she make herself vulnerable? In any case, it doesn’t matter, as Ramsay chooses Jen to leave. Even though this is a sad group, Corey, Petrozza and Christina make up the best final three this season could have. As I mentioned before, I’m completely over Corey. I run hot and cold with Christina, but Petrozza has kind of grown on me. However, there’s still no one that I’m really rooting for.

Next week: It’s a mystery guest—a good one, judging by their faces. Plus, each chef gets to play Executive chef. It doesn’t look like it goes well.

Previously: Like The Spice Girls, 2 became 1 when Ramsay merged the Blue and the Red teams. And like the Spice Girls after 1997 or so, it didn’t go well. Corey burned herself, Matt had a migraine, and Ramsey shut down the service early. Matt was eliminated, but the tip of his finger presumably lives on in Hell’s Kitchen.

Yes! We start off with Jen complaining about cleaning up after everybody and she drops my favorite reality show chestnut: “I’m not here to make friends.” Everybody take a drink!

The next morning in the kitchen, Ramsay informs the remaining five contestants that they have a new special tonight: Lobster spaghetti. He demonstrates how to prepare the dish and then tells them that they’re opening a cooking school. Their individual challenge is to teach a student the dish. The best dish, of course, wins.

So the students come in, and it’s a bunch of housewives. Specifically housewives who look like they took a booze cruise straight from Dina Lohan’s weekly bridge game via the Tori Spelling Bolt-On canal and somehow wandered into Hell’s Kitchen. That’s what I love about Fox: you know they’ll always keep it classy.

The women are predictably bad in the kitchen, but I’ve got to say I completely empathize with the one who freaked out over killing the lobster. I probably would have cried. Or pooped my pants. Point is, it would have been a major stressor.

The main rule in this challenge is that the chefs are only allowed to teach—they’re not supposed to do any of the cooking. Poor Christina’s student keeps trying to cut things in her hands and while Christina keeps on asking her not to, she can’t just take it away and chop it herself. Jen, on the other hand, keeps trying to cut vegetables when Ramsay isn’t looking. Luckily, nothing gets past Ramsay, who sees what she’s doing and tells her that she’ll be disqualified if she doesn’t stop.

Judging starts off pretty well. Petrozza’s dish is perfect, but the pasta is overcooked. Christina doesn’t have that problem, however. Ramsay says that her dish is “quite nice.” Bobby’s however, is a disaster. Corey fares better though, with Ramsay calling it nice. Last up is attempted cheater Jen. Apparently her cheating didn’t pay off, as her dish ends up bland, with no tomato sauce and the pasta in a big congealed clump. It’s down to Christina and Corey. Ramsay decides that the best teacher in Hell’s Kitchen’s first cooking school is Christina.

The losers get to spend all day cleaning, while Christina gets to have a nice lunch with Ramsay and two of L.A.’s premiere restaurateurs. As a thank you, the students all receive a set of Ramsay’s cookware, so their housekeepers/nannies will have really good equipment to use.

Tonight’s dinner service has a minor twist: a 12 top. With Ramsay’s slavish devotion to getting the entire table’s order out at the same time, the chefs really have to be on top of timing.

Christina is on appetizers with Corey and has a bit of a shaky start when she sends one spaghetti to the window instead of two. She quickly recovers, however, and thirty minutes in to dinner service, appetizers are “flying” out of the kitchen. Bobby also started out badly on the meat station with burned Wellingtons. Jen is having problems of her own with undercooked or overcooked fish, leading Jean-Philippe to frantically tell the wait staff to push the meat. When Bobby keeps on burning the meat, he tells them to push the chicken. All of the problems lead the kitchen to come to a standstill.

Eventually, after several more mistakes and Jen talking back to Ramsay, food starts leaving the kitchen again—right in time for the arrival of the 12 top of Hawaiian Tropic models. Christina and Corey do a good job of getting all of the apps out. They start preparing desserts while the remaining three begin working on the entrees. The raw/burned food problems continue, and result in Ramsay temporarily kicking Jen off of her station. Afterwards, Jen, Petrozza and Bobby manage to get their act together and send out the 12 top’s entrees.

While the chefs managed to complete the service, Ramsay is still disappointed in their performance. However, he does say that Christina really stood out. He tells her to go back and nominate two chefs for elimination.

When they return for eliminations, Christina’s first nomination is, unsurprisingly, Jen. Her second nominee is Bobby, due to his inconsistent performance during tonight’s dinner service. Ramsay tells Bobby he sucked tonight, but tells Jen that she’s generally inconsistent. Before he makes his decision, Ramsay asks Christina who she thinks should go home. Christina says Jen should. For some inexplicable reason, Ramsay decides to send Bobby home. Could it be that he didn’t want to lose his last remaining villain in Jen? Oh well, at least Matt’s still gone.

Next week: Someone burns Ramsay!

Last Week: Matt joined the Red Team and actually managed to have a good service. Ben, however, crashed and burned, leading to his elimination. Afterwards, Ramsey told the Red Team that they needed to send one member over to the Blue Team to even things up.

After Ramsay makes his request, the teams go back to the dorms to discuss the matter. Corey immediately starts trying to convince Jen to make the switch. Jen’s reaction? “Corey is a manipulative-ass bitch.” Succinct. To the point. I like it.

The next morning, Ramsay asks for volunteers from the Red Team. At first no one speaks up, but then Jen does. She volunteers to go over to the Blue Team basically so she can sniff out her competition. The Blue Team agrees and Jen officially switches sides.

Today’s challenge is about improvisation. There are twenty ingredients from which each team needs to make four dishes. The ingredients include meat, vegetables, seafood, citrus and nuts. All of the ingredients must be used, but none can be repeated. They have 45 minutes to complete their dishes.

Ten minutes into the challenge, the Red Team is cooking, while the Blue Team is still dividing ingredients. It’s pretty ho-hum until MATT CHOPS OFF HIS FINGER. Seriously. I gagged a little bit. Corey is recounting the story and has to stop in the middle because it grosses her out.

Guys, I have a big problem even thinking about injuries that involve fingernails or nipples. This is freaking me the crap out right now. While I’m on my couch whimpering, the rest of the Red Team just seems annoyed that they have to cook his dish. But then, THEY CAN’T FIND THE PART HE CHOPPED OFF. Look, I’m sorry to go all crazy Caps Lock on you guys, but they are probably COOKING his FINGER. Aaaaiiieeee.

Meanwhile, the Blue Team seems to have a complete communications breakdown. They’re duplicating ingredients and not talking to each other. After the paramedics bandage Matt up, he rejoins his team. The challenge finishes with LouRoss barely plating his food. Here’s something weird: Nobody seems to have found the finger, yet nobody is talking about it.

Christina and Petrozza go up against each other and Ramsay likes both dishes so much that he says that they both win, awarding each team one point. Next up is Jen and Matt. They both used the quail, but Ramsay thinks that Matt’s tastes weird, so he gives the Blue Team the point. Corey and Bobby go up against each other. Ramsay deems Corey’s dish plain, but he hates the glaze that Bobby used, so Corey gets the point.

Rosann and LouRoss are up and he tells Rosann her dish looks “clumsy.” Ramsay really likes LouRoss’ dish, but LouRoss admits that he didn’t use the veal. Jen is pissed that he didn’t lie and Ramsay is pissed that they didn’t use the 20 items. Because of this, the Blue Team has to spend all day doing laundry by hand, while the Red Team has a photo shoot and interview with In Touch.

During their punishment, Jen just spends the entire time grumbling and calling LouRoss names. I get why she’s pissed, but she needs to get over herself before she turns the entire team against her. The snipping continues the next day during prep, and I have a feeling this is going to end up very badly for her.

Ramsay gathers both teams together and tells them about the surprise he has in store for tonight’s dinner service: Two food critics are going to be there and their reviews are going to help Ramsay decide which team wins. Ramsay also tells them that he has no idea where they’ll be sitting.

The critics sit together and order the same dishes (risotto and scallops) from each kitchen so they can make a 1:1 comparison. The Red Team’s appetizers come out first and the critics like them both. The same goes for those that come from The Blue Team, so they’re pretty much neck and neck. The critics both order salmon. They’re not really fans of Christina’s salmon, but say that LouRoss’ is more flavorful.

The salmon isn’t the only thing working against the Red Team. While the Blue Team has served most of their entrees, the Red Team is leaving their side of the restaurant starving. Rosann is screwing up the garnishes. She’s burning food and running out of items. Even the critics are noticing that the Red kitchen is in shambles. It’s not looking good for them at all—especially after Ramsay gets so frustrated with them that he sends them all upstairs. And then sets the kitchen on fire a little bit.

After banishing the Red Team from the kitchen, he sends the Blue Team in to finish their tickets. Jen takes this with her signature good grace and humility, screaming, “Ha ha ha! That’s what you get, bitches!” Her glee is only bolstered by the poor reviews the critics give to the Red Team. Corey is voted “best of the worst” and has to pick two nominees for elimination.

At elimination, Corey nominates Matt and Rosann, saying that she never wants to work with her during a service ever again. Man, at that point, you’ve got to really be hoping that Ramsay eliminates her, because otherwise, that’s an awkward night back at the dorms. Ramsay throws a bit of a wrench into Corey’s plan by telling Christina that she’s up for elimination as well.

After Ramsay asks the nominees to explain themselves, he surprises the crap out of me and tells Rosann to step back in line—and then he eliminates her. This show makes no sense sometimes.

Next Time: The Blue Team has had about enough of Jen and it’s Red menu vs. Blue menu at dinner service.

Previously: It was family night, complete with petting zoo. The women won the pasta challenge. During dinner service, Vanessa burned her hand off. Craig went off the rails and was ultimately eliminated.

Everyone is sitting around after elimination and Vanessa says she has to go see a plastic surgeon. That must have been some hand injury. Her bandage is huge, making cooking at least difficult if not impossible.

Today’s challenge is for each team to create its version of a fine dining pizza. At Gordon’s London (the one in London, not the one in New York called London) restaurant, he has a white truffle pizza on the menu for $200. Now that may sound expensive, but if you convert that price to pounds, it’s £3.75. That’s a little international economy joke for you guys. Did you like that? Yeah, I didn’t think so. For real though, the dollar is really weak. Anyway, they have 45 minutes and over 130 ingredients for the task (including apparently, “sea merchants.” Well, according to Bobby, at least).

Each person on the team made their own pizza. The team then voted on which one was the best. The Red team chooses Jen’s pizza. The Blue team, however, only has two pizzas ready. The Blue team tries Matt’s pizza first and Ben has to spit it out; it’s so gross. The team eventually decides on Ben’s pizza without half of the team even tasting it. Ramsay tastes them both and likes them. Truthfully, Ben’s duck pizza would have won, but Ramsay tasted some grit on the mushrooms. In the end, Jen’s prosciutto pizza takes the prize.

The Red team’s prize is a helicopter ride to Santa Barbara and dinner at Square One, home of the $90 hamburger. The Blue team gets to stay behind and prep all of the pizzas for dinner service. The most important thing to take away from this is that nothing LouRoss says makes any sense, ever. He talked for about three minutes and I didn’t understand a word of it.

Vanessa goes to talk to Gordon about her hand. He tells her that she still has every opportunity to win, but that the decision to leave is hers if that’s what she wants to do. Vanessa interviews about how she’s not a quitter, but tells Ramsay that if she “can’t be here 100%,” then she doesn’t want to be there—so basically, she quits. That’s kind of weird to me. I would have at least thought she would try to make it through a dinner service. In any case, Vanessa packs her bags and leaves.

After Vanessa’s departure, the teams find out the twist for tonight’s dinner service: Pizza delivery. It’s unclear to where these pizzas are being delivered, but as another part of their punishment, the Blue team has to deliver the pizzas on some crazy golf cart thing.

Dinner service starts off smoothly for the Red team, with Jen getting her first appetizers out in record time. The Blue team, predictably, has a rockier start with Matt unable to cook the quail eggs. Speaking of the Blue team, Ben has to deliver the first batch of pizzas. Is it just me, or does Ramsay seem to especially hate Ben for some reason? It’s probably sexual tension. At least that’s what it is in my mind—and in my Gordon Ramsay Fan Fiction notebook. What? You don’t have one? Well, uh, neither do I. Shut up. Ahem. So Ben: They’re actually sending him out to a neighborhood, so that’s interesting. He manages to make his deliveries in what seems to be a reasonable time.

Meanwhile, Rosann is falling apart. Ramsay spends about a full two minutes of screen time just berating her. He then calls Jen in to help Rosann. On the other side of the kitchen, LouRoss apparently can’t cook a steak. Petrozza saves him by basically taking an overcooked steak and cutting the burned part off. Both teams manage to get through entrees and desserts, completing the service at about the same time.

Since both teams completed the service for the first time this season, Ramsay has decided that there is no losing team. However, he sends them both to the dorms to figure out someone to nominate for elimination. So doesn’t that kind of make both teams losers? The Blue team is trying to decide between nominating Matt and LouRoss. Either would be a great person to lose. The Red team, meanwhile, is leaning towards Rosann, but Jen wants Christina to go.

In the end, the Blue team nominates LouRoss and the Red team nominates Christina. Ramsay is flabbergasted that they chose her, telling Rosann that she “completely screwed” her team. After talking to both LouRoss and Christina, Ramsay tells them that there won’t be any elimination, since Vanessa left. Then he tells them to “piss off, and get some sleep.” Now that is some good advice.

Next Week: Oh lord, it’s a Hell’s Kitchen Sweet 16 party and a new chef joins one of the teams.

Previously: Chickens didn’t get slaughtered, Rosann set the kitchen on fire, and we finally got to say goodbye to Jackass Jason.

We open with Ramsey kicking everyone out of the restaurant after eliminations. Vanessa is crying, while the guys are just basically celebrating that they’re still there. It’s 12:35 AM, and Ramsey tells everyone to get downstairs and clean up the kitchens. We get our very first scandal when Corey just bails in the middle of it.

The next day, Ramsey gathers both teams in the kitchen and asks each team who their strongest member is. Corey nominates herself on the Red team, but they choose Jen. The blue team chooses my personal favorite, Ben. Ramsey doesn’t really do anything with this information and instead tells them that they’re having a special family dinner service that night.

Tonight’s challenge is all about freshness. The teams have to make fresh pasta—the team who makes the most perfect pasta in 20 minutes wins. The Blue team starts having problems when Matt just stands around with his arms out and Craig screws up the machine. The Red team, with Jen taking the lead, seems to be doing well.

When it comes time to weigh the pasta, the women jump out into the lead, but the men quickly catch up. In the end, however, they beat the Blue team by about a pound. As a penalty for losing, the Blue team has to prep all of the food for tonight’s dinner service. The Red team, however, gets to spend the day at the Santa Monica pier.

Okay, quick note about the part where they show the winners and the losers. The guys are back in the kitchen bitching and making pasta. Matt says something to the effect of he hopes the women get stuck upside down on the roller coaster and “all that cellulite in Corey’s ass goes into her brain.” First of all, what? That doesn’t make any damn sense. Second of all, you’re attacking a tall, skinny chick for having cellulite? Whether she does or not, that is some tough talk from a dude who looks like a cross between David Gest and George Costanza.

We go to commercial with Ben going outside to see what they’ve brought in to amuse the children. All we see are balloons, but apparently, whatever else is there stinks. I’m hoping it’s ponies or some sort of petting zoo and not a poorly-cleaned ball pit. Fact: those things are filled with fecal matter. Just something to keep in mind next time you drop the kids off at Ikea.

Luckily for the children, it is a petting zoo with a sign that says “Hell’s Playground.” I’m so taking my kids there every weekend. That’s amazing. Anyway, unluckily for Ben, he gets put in charge of cleaning the poo. That’s what being the strongest member of your team gets you. Who says reality TV is exploitative?

So the Red team is a little worried about dinner service, since they just learned the menu a half an hour ago. Jen points out that it’s pasta, hamburger and onion rings. If they can’t do that, she doesn’t know what they can do. Good point. As Craig helpfully points out, cooking pasta “isn’t rocket sciences.” Oh, Craig.

Ramsey calls everyone together to give his “don’t screw up, or I’ll kill you” pep talk, and tells them that as an extra incentive, the first team to complete the dinner service will be the winner of the night. So he’s expecting at least one team to actually finish. I know they’re just making onion rings, but that’s still a level of optimism we haven’t seen from Ramsey so far this season.

Dinner service starts off well for the Red team, with Vanessa sending out some very nice appetizers. The Blue team, however, hits a roadblock early on when Ben sends out some really pathetic onion rings. Ben fixes the problem, only to have Matt try to kill all of the children by sending out raw Buffalo wings. The Red team is chugging away, when Vanessa sets the kitchen on fire and burns her hand pretty severely. It’s bad enough that she gets bandaged up and driven to the hospital.

Even missing a teammate, the Red team pulls ahead. The Blue team is further stymied by Matt’s inability to cook a burger and Craig’s inability to tell the difference between meatballs and clams. The Red team finishes their dinner service first and Ramsey sends them over to help the Blue team. They’re trying to get out the last ticket and Craig has a mini meltdown/hissyfit. It’s pretty hilarious. As Jen says, “you’ve got some attitude, son.”

After dinner service, Gordon singles out Jen as the best chef in both kitchens. He tells Ben that he’s surprised in his performance, and Ben gets all excited and proud. It’s really sad, because Ramsey makes it clear that he did not mean that in a good way. Ramsey chooses Bobby as “best of the worst.”

Bobby nominates Craig and Matt for elimination, which is a great set of nominations, as they consistently do little besides drag the team down. Ramsey, however, is really pissed at Ben, so he calls him up to the front as well. In the end, he decides to eliminate Craig. Thank God; that guy is ridiculously bad.

Next Week: They would like us to believe that romance is blossoming on Hell’s Kitchen, but it’s not. Meanwhile, Vanessa is struggling to compete with one hand.

Previously: The guys were able to eyeball a 6 oz. fillet, earning them a trip on a yacht while the women made fish stock. “The Black Gordon Ramsey” offered up his apron to dry Petrozza’s tears, Cory made stupid nominations that Ramsey promptly ignored, instead eliminating Sharon.

I love how the episodes start off exactly where the previous one left off. Tonight, Jen and Christina are still reeling from Cory’s nominations and Jen is hilariously and very loudly proclaiming that it doesn’t matter, because Cory is, in fact, “a dumb ass blonde.” The guys on the other hand, thought Cory’s nominations were awesome. Behind her back though, they’re saying she played that card too early. I love it when inept people try to scheme.

I am kind of disappointed that we’re already three episodes into this and this was the first time that someone declared that he or she was not “here to make friends.” Come on guys, you should know by now that reality shows call for that midway through episode one—the top of episode two at the latest. You need to step up your game or you’ll never be invited back for the reunion specials/all-star editions.

Chicken slaughter! Ramsey lets a bunch of chickens loose in the apartment and tells everyone to grab one and head down to the kitchen. Once there, Ramsey tells them that they need to become more familiar with their product. He takes one of the chickens, puts it on a chopping block and acts as though he’s going to slaughter it right there. Even though I know with 99% certainty that he’s not going to kill that poor chicken, I’m still watching this with my mouth agape. It’s pretty horrifying—although I did giggle a little bit when it looked as though Bobby was trying to cover his chicken’s eyes.

The purpose of this, of course, is to lead into this week’s challenge, which is to cut a chicken into eight pieces without wasting any. Each chef gets a (dead) and plucked chicken and he or she has five minutes to cut it into eight pieces that meet Ramsey’s specifications. Jason blah blahs some boring misogynistic crap about how the guys have to win, so it’s not too unexpected when they lose in a spectacular fashion.

So while they pick peppers on a hundred acre farm, the women go out to lunch at the Saddle Ranch. They run into Aaron from last season, the dude who cried all the time and passed out. It was kind of a random appearance, as he left immediately afterward. I can’t help but wonder if the bull riding portion of the lunch would have happened had the guys won the challenge.

I love Ben. He’s definitely one of my favorites. When Cory awkwardly talks about using the fact that some of the guys may “be attracted to [her] body” to get ahead in the game in a move that is highly reminiscent of Jenna on 30 Rock (“I’ve got a secret weapon…” “Please don’t say your sexuality” “…my sexuality!”) he immediately sees through it and rebuffs her offer to get in the hot tub. Big ol’ jackass Jason, however, is not nearly as clever and flops right in. So what big secret information did the girls learn by using their “sexuality?” That the guys are mad at Craig. Shocker. Because, you know, there’s no other way they could have figured that out besides stripping down to their underwear and hottubbing it with a Weeble—certainly not by being present at the challenge where Craig lost the entire thing for the guys by being a crappy chicken cutter. Good job girls; I’m glad to see your schemes are as inept as ever.

During dinner service, the Red team appears to get off to a good start, as they are the first ones to get their appetizers to the window. Rosann screws up a Caesar salad though, putting them slightly behind. Craig’s inability to cook bacon makes Ramsey break his own rule and send out only half of a table’s order. The ladies, on the other hand, are back in stride, having sent out four appetizers.

Ramsey really disappoints me after he makes Jason go back up to the room since he can’t recite the dessert menu. Jason has a breakdown when he comes back to the kitchen and says he wants to go home. Instead of saying, “then get the hell out of here, you donkey,” Ramsey gets him to recite the menu and lets him back on the line.

Dinner service devolves for both teams, with the women setting the meat on fire and Ben sending out raw salmon. Ramsey is so disgusted, not only does he bang his head on a metal table for an uncomfortably long time, but he declares that neither team wins. He chooses Christina and Petrozza to choose one member of their team to nominate for elimination.

Petrozza chooses Jason because of his general suck factor, while Christina chooses Vanessa, who screwed up the meat station. Gordon wins back my trust by kicking Jackass Jason off. Hallelujah.

Next Week: It’s the first-ever family night in which Craig yells at Ramsey, and one of the women sets herself on fire.
