As we barrel towards the release of Avengers: Doomsday on the 2026 movie schedule, everyone was a little surprised when Doomsday's first trailer dropped just days before San Diego Comic Con kicks off. I think most fans thought it was more likely to drop there during the Marvel panel on Saturday. The great news for those of us not attending SDCC, we all got to see it Monday for the first time. We got a good look at many of the characters that we’ve long known are in the upcoming MCU movie, but I was really surprised that we didn’t get surprised by at least one of two characters who are heavily rumored to be in the movie, Spider-Man and Wolverine.

I Expected One Surprise From The Trailer

In the trailer, we saw a ton of characters, so it’s hardly shocking that there were some who we know are going to be in the movie, like Beast (Kelsey Grammer) and Nightcrawler (Alan Cumming), who didn’t make it into the short trailer. There are also a handful of major MCU actors who weren’t part of the big director’s chair reveal last year when the movie was officially announced, nor have they been announced since. I’m talking about actors like Elizabeth Olsen (The Scarlet Witch), Mark Ruffalo (Hulk), Benedict Cumberbatch (Dr. Strange), Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool), Tom Holland (Spidey), and Hugh Jackman (Wolverine).

I really kind of expected at least one of those, most likely Wolverine, based on Jackman’s recent social media posts, or Spider-Man (since Brand New Day is hitting theaters at the end of the month) to be in Doomsday. We saw neither. I get the Russos and the powers that be want to save some surprises for the theaters, or even for future trailers, keeping the hype train going. They may also be holding some back for SDCC later this week, but I really did think we’d see either Spider-Man or Wolverine in the first trailer. Yes, I fully believe that both characters will appear in the movie (along with Dr, Strange and Deadpool).

There Is A Web Of Rumors Surrounding Spider-Man

Maybe it’s less surprising that Spidey wasn’t included, because there are a lot of theories out there that it might not be Tom Holland’s version of the webslinger, but Tobey Maguire’s, who could be in Doomsday. That is definitely a reveal that you’d want to keep for the movie, so if that rumor does end up being correct, I get it. Wolverine, on the other hand, would be the perfect character to surprise fans with in the first trailer.

Doomsday is going to mark the real introduction of the full complement of X-Men into the MCU films, after some flirting with the characters in WandaVision and, of course, Deadpool and Wolverine. Putting the most famous big-screen X-Man, Wolverine, in the trailer would have given us all a “whoa!” moment. It would save the potential reveal of Spider-Man for the movie, but still get people talking about the future of the MCU beyond Doomsday.

Then again, maybe all this is just wild speculation about all these unannounced characters and none of them will be in Doomsday. All I know is that I’ll be keeping a close lookout for any more clues and crumbs that get dropped over the next few days, weeks, and months.

Hugh Jackman may have once had a definitive X-Men ending in Logan, but no more. Since his Deadpool & Wolverine return in 2024, it feels like it’s only a matter of time before he appears in one of the next Marvel movies. And, as of late, Jackman has been incredibly open about his gym routine. Those workout posts have, unsurprisingly, prompted fans to mention his adamantium-clawed alter ego.

In the past few weeks, Jackman has posted two videos of himself back on a workout routine of sorts. Check out this one from July 1, and try not to get winded while watching it:

Whoa, Jackman’s really putting in the work! In the video above, the movie star is seen doing pushups with massive chains around his neck. In the caption he wrote “best to stay fit” without saying why. I totally get why fans are getting suspicious of the actor returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

If he’s doing this workout all the time he’s definitely going to be Wolverine ripped in no time. Here’s another one he posted this week:

In this video, Jackman shared a workout win where he was able to hit 2k on a rowing machine in just under seven minutes. Amidst the accomplishment, Jackman said he’s “proud, exhausted, grateful and sweating profusely.” Here’s how the Marvel fans were commenting across both posts:

‘Til he’s 90! Since Hugh Jackman has already been the lead in two 2026 movie schedule entries, you know he’s already been dodging questions about whether he’s in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday. Jackman has been staying strong and not saying much but, back in December, he did say that his gut was telling him he’s “not done” with Wolverine.

Avengers: Doomsday will definitely have some X-Men actors in it of course. We already know for sure that Ian McKellan’s Magneto, Patrick Stewart’s Professor X and James Marsden’s Cyclops are in the December 2026 release. Additionally, Kelsey Grammer’s Beast, Rebecca Romijn's Mystique, Alan Cumming's Nightcrawler and Channing Tatum’s Gambit will also be in the movie.

There have also been all sorts of rumors as of late about A-list movie stars filling roles in upcoming X-Men reboot. Adam Driver is rumored to be the new Magneto and a report about Margot Robbie playing Mystique has also gotten around. Some people theorize that the next set of MCU films will be called “The Mutant Saga”.

Marvel Studios is returning to San Diego Comic Con for a massive Hall H panel next weekend, so it’s very possible we’ll know more about the future of X-Men in a week. Of course, that's just speculation, so I’d definitely take Hugh Jackman’s workout videos at face value (for now)!

The Sheep Detectives is now available to stream with a Prime subscription, so if you've been wondering about this critically acclaimed movie, now's the time to watch. I watched it with my child, and while we both thought it was a great movie for all ages, we were both absolutely devastated by the Winter Lamb.

Murder aside, there's nothing more upsetting in this movie than a baby lamb who is constantly bullied by the rest of the flock. What's even worse is I found out this was a thing that actually happens in nature and is more common than non-shepherds and farmers may think.

Yes Winter Sheep Are Rejected By Flocks, And There's A Science Behind It

Known sometimes as "Bummer Lambs," these little sheep are given their names because, for whatever reason, they're the weakest of the younger sheep in their flock. For a variety of reasons, sheep will occasionally reject the smaller and weaker lambs they give birth to, often to preserve the survival of the stronger ones. It's then on the farmer to care for the weaker baby lamb, often bottle-feeding and providing warmth to it until it's strong enough to be on its own.

Hobby Farms wrote that it's not uncommon for farms to sell these lambs at a bargain, which may be how George Hardy came across them. Due to the feeding and warmth requirements, George likely had to spend a lot of time with the sheep, which prevented it from being around the other sheep in the flock and bonding with them over a love of mystery novels.

Winter Sheep Can Be Accepted By A Flock Without A Murder Happening

Winter sheep are a sad phenomenon, but the good news is it can be fixed! What's better is it can all be accomplished without requiring the sheep to solve a murder mystery, which is good because I don't want to deal with more grief after George's tragic death. By the way, if you thought that ending was sad, definitely don't read the book.

Usually sheep just need slow integration into the flock, and they'll be accepted soon enough. What I found interesting, and what The Sheep Detectives didn't cover, is that these sheep often can become "leading sheep" in the pack, as the ones most comfortable around humans. I have to say, I like the idea of the Winter Lamb ultimately growing up to lead the flock, so I'm going to imagine that's exactly what happens.

The Sheep Detectives is available to stream over on Prime Video, and even those of us who didn't enjoy the film recommend that readers watch it. To pile on top of the existing sheep puns surrounding the movie, it's not a baaaaaaad way to spend an evening watching it.

With Avengers: Doomsday hitting the 2026 movie release schedule later this year, there’s actually been a lot of Deadpool and Wolverine talk in recent months. This was particularly true after Ryan Reynolds posted an Avengers flag on social, prompting people to wonder whether he and Hugh Jackman might be due for an onscreen reunion. Will Deadpool and Wolverine be a part of the gang? It’s unclear, but the two do clearly want to continue the work down the line, and one joke has very much cemented this.

Hugh Jackman’s been going on record lately to discuss potentially continuing to play Logan for Marvel. He said during an interview that he’s only “57” and plans to keep “doing it until I’m 90,” which MCU fans should know is a reference from the 2024 film Deadpool & Wolverine. His full comments were all pretty funny, but it’s even funnier knowing this is a joke neither Jackman nor his pal Reynolds will let go.

In fact, in an interview with The Wrap, the two men were asked about working together in the future, and Reynolds spoke about wanting to return to the big screen together in an ensemble (which leads me to look again at Doomsday and Secret Wars on the upcoming Marvel movies schedule). While he said he’d “love to do it” again with Hugh Jackman, the it in question being filming the characters, it was Jackman who confirmed the Wolverine joke the two just can’t let go. He snarkily noted:

That was a couple of years ago. It’s unclear if Reynolds is still trolling his pal with this specific Deadpool & Wolverine reference via phone, but this wasn’t the only time the actor brought the joke up in a very public manner, also sharing this special message on Hugh Jackman's birthday:

So, it’s clear this has become a bit of a running thing for both of them that has extended nearly as long as their legendary faux feud.

Plus, from his comments and previous posts, it’s also clear Hugh Jackman is still using this bit in his day-to-day life, and he has also shown no signs of quitting on the famous character anytime soon. That is, at least, in this post Logan era. So, all I guess there is that is left to say is we’ll be sure to keep you updated when Disney invariably announces Logan 2058, which, in case you’re bad at math, is the literal year Jackman will turn 90.

I heard that The Sheep Detectives may seem like a silly movie, but it has a lot of heart. Therefore, I couldn’t wait to watch it once it became available on streaming services. The film is one of the movies that makes the Prime Video subscription a must for movie fans. It’s a nice blend of comedy, drama, and a very intriguing mystery.

The mystery elements are really what made The Sheep Detectives endearing. It feels like a classic mystery film, just with sheep trying to solve the murder. Come for the sheep, stay for the movie’s love of mystery novels.

The Sheep Detectives Follows Many Standard Mystery Novels, But in A Children's Book Way

The Sheep Detectives feels like what happens when a children’s book and a mystery novel marry. It has elements and qualities of both. The abundance of animals gives it the same whimsy and imagination that you would see in a beloved children’s book or fairytale.

The animals also have some innocence that only comes from fictional animals. However, despite the animals’ playfulness, The Sheep Detectives mimics mostly aspects and elements of mystery novels. The animals make the adventure and story cute, but it’s a dark concept with murder, betrayal, and the sad toll and burden of death and grief.

The Sheep Detectives is based on the German book, Three Bags Full: A Sheep Detective Story by Leonie Swann. I am not sure if the original novel has the same children’s book mixed with mystery novel quality, but it novel origins automatically give it more of a fable quality.

It Highlights The Power Of Reading, Especially Fiction

George (Hugh Jackman) reading to his animals helps them develop a bond with him. Lily (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) develops a love for mysteries, which makes her such a good detective. The movie implies that reading can become an educational tool that makes people more intelligent, but also better at their jobs.

Tim (Nicholas Braun) is treated like an idiot, but he eventually starts to become good at his job of police work because of Lily and company’s influence, but also from developing a love of reading mystery novels. Novels are treated as a major resource in helping make these characters more competent.

Books are powerful, and I feel like The Sheep Detectives is an ode to how reading can transform people, animals, and things. Sheep cannot solve mysteries without books.

If You Read Enough Mystery Novels, You Can Predict Elements Of The Sheep Detectives, And That's Not A Bad Thing

Hugh Jackman has died a lot in movies, but his death in The Sheep Detectives was one of the most emotional. This made us highly invested in solving this crime. The film follows the pattern of other mystery stories, so it is easier to predict who killed George.

The Sheep Detectives may have made some major changes from the book version, but this version of the story gave us plenty of hints to figure out the ending. I think there is comfort in being able to see where a story is likely heading, or trying to predict how everything ends. That’s one of the reasons I enjoy mystery novels so much.

I want to join the investigation and try to solve it along with the characters. I also want to see these characters again in more movies.

No one could have predicted that Hugh Jackman would still be playing Wolverine 26 years after the original X-Men movie. It never occurred to me as a kid that I’d still be seeing the same actors as my favorite characters when I became an adult. But spotting Jackman in different Marvel projects always makes my younger self so happy. Who else remembers him showing up in First Class with an epic one-liner? He instantly steals the scene every time.

So it’s not surprising that the actor would be reluctant to see anyone else take up the claws. With the multiverse, there is a real probability of seeing another actor playing Wolverine. We did see Henry Cavill's cameo in Deadpool and Wolverine as a variant of the character. And if we can see Superman do it, anything is possible. But I love that when Jackman was asked about that very topic by ProjectBigScreen, he responded with an A+ Deadpool joke while he weighed in on the possibility of being replaced:

I expected nothing less from Jackman. The actor making the role his own is why fans haven’t stopped piling on the Wolverine hype. I wouldn’t be shocked if we see him show up, even in a cameo, in Doomsday. But I would be excited regardless, especially if it was a reunion with James Marsden. Scott and Logan notoriously butted heads over Jean in the early 2000s films, and a little wink to that would make my X-Men loving heart so happy.

I already felt like I had won when Aaron Stanford briefly returned as Pyro in Deadpool and Wolverine, but to learn that other X-Men 2 actors would be coming back for the next Avengers? It’s almost too good to be true. The second X-Men was one of my favorite movies growing up, even if the set was rife with drama, so having Alan Cumming back as Nightcrawler feels like a gift. And I would love to see Jackman reunite with any of his former castmates. However, the actor has been hilariously dodging questions about returning as Wolverine in Doomsday. Though the actor doesn't seem ready to let the character go any time soon. He referenced a joke from his last movie when explaining:

I don't think anyone would mind if Jackman played the role until he's 90. Then maybe we'll be ready to see the character go to someone else. For now, I’m excited to see where the multiverse is going to take us. We have many confirmed returns, including the shocking Robert Downey Jr. come back as Doctor Doom. The character was previously played by Charmed’s Julian McMahon in the underrated Fantastic Four movies in the early 2000s.

While we patiently wait for Doomsday to hit theaters in December 2026, we can check Jackman out in The Sheep Detectives available to stream on Amazon and the polarizing Death of Robin Hood in theaters. But while we see the actor taking up different mantels, that doesn't mean we can't all hope to see him back with his Wolverine hair and claws.... and maybe wish for a reunion or two.

While the comic book genre has been thriving for over a decade, it was more of a risk when the OG X-Men movies hit theaters. Hugh Jackman became a household name for starring as Wolverine, and is known for getting ripped for those movies (which are streaming with a Disney+ subscription). It turns out that he once called The Rock for workout advice... and then got made fun of for his version of a cheat meal.

Dwayne Johnson a wrestler turned actor who has become a bankable movie star, bringing his hulking physicality to each role. During an appearance on The Rich Eisen Show, Jackman confirmed he went to The Rock for advice on getting fit for Wolverine. He told the story by saying the following:

Honestly, this sounds like a pretty cool moment. While Dwayne Johnson offering fitness advice is already a pinch-me moment, the fact that he put his filming schedule aside to help Hugh Jackman is even more thrilling. Clearly it's something that has stuck with the Greatest Showman star, who looks thoroughly yoked every time he plays Wolverine. I guess we have to thank The Rock for helping him get there.

The Tooth Fairy was released back in 2010, in the earlier days of Johnson's tenure as an A-list movie star. By that point Jackman has already starred in the original X-Men trilogy, and wanted to get especially jacked for his Wolverine spinoffs. As fans know, that's exactly what happened. During the same interview, the 57 year-old star of stage and film shared how The Rock made fun of him while offering some nutritional tips. In his words:

Those who follow the Moana actor's social media might not be too surprised by this. Dwayne Johnson regularly posts his cheat meals, and they're absolutely massive ones that usually involve a ton of sweets and overflowing plates. It sounds like Jackman didn't get the memo at first... until The Rock made fun of him and encouraged him to swing harder.

Jackman has been open about how many calories he eats to stay superhero fit, and it seems like Johnson helped him find that winning combination. Now we just need to get these two actors on screen together.

Hugh Jackman's time as Wolverine is streaming over on Disney+. Fans are hoping to see him reprise his role in upcoming Marvel movies, particularly the next two Avengers movies. If he does, smart money says he'll be looking jacked and having some wild cheat meals.

I’ve seen two A24 movies in the last few weeks, and I know more are coming as the months roll by. The studio is really busy these days, churning out movies in a unique lane like Death of Robin Hood and the recent hit Backrooms. People can’t get enough. This doesn’t mean every upcoming A24 movie hits with general audiences, though. In fact, after seeing it, I know The Death of Robin Hood is going to be polarizing because of the responses I got from fellow St. Louisans at my recent screening. I also think it’s difficult to see Robin Hood as a villain rather than a hero, and the general tone of this movie is unsettling.

Still, I think the studio should have held it for awards season. Let’s talk it out.

The Death Of Robin Hood Is Not An Easy Watch

By now, if you’ve seen The Death of Robin Hood, you know it offers fans a grim perspective on the life of an outlaw from beginning to end. Yes, I’m going to bring in some spoilers, here, so if you haven’t seen the flick yet, watch out.

In his heyday, Robin Hood may have been a man who gave back to the poor, but he killed a lot of people to get there, and he has a lot of blood debts to pay years later. This leads to many, many graphic scenes, which start at the beginning of the film when Robin Hood warns a young girl off, then kills her when she doesn’t heed that warning.

That’s some Game of Thrones-level horrifying, but it’s really the Death of Robin Hood ending that I think will turn some people off. Also the tone of this movie. Also, it’s an unrelentingly negative portrayal of life in medieval times. But mostly its ending, which involves another young girl and an assisted suicide that is shown onscreen. It is, after all, about death.

To be clear, I really liked The Death of Robin Hood. I’ll also probably never watch it again, but I’ve never seen a portrayal of the famed outlaw quite like it, and honestly I’ve never seen a movie like it, either. It’s not happy-go-lucky, but the script is well-written, and it’s fully circular in a way that stuck with me after I finished watching it. It’s complicated. There are a lot of grey areas. It’s a story about how people can be more than one thing; it’s a story about how people can change if they want to, but often don’t.

Mostly, what I took out of the movie is that I really just think Hugh Jackman is extraordinary.

A24 Should Have Held The Death Of Robin Hood For Awards Season

Almost anyone who has seen a movie in the last 20 years has probably encountered Hugh Jackman. He’s been in a boatload of Marvel films. He’s known for stage work and bringing joy to the masses with projects like The Greatest Showman. One of my fellow editors refers to him as Hollywood’s “Song and Dance Man.”

His one and only Oscar nomination was in 2012 for Les Misérables. He didn’t win, despite Anne Hathaway admitting he once broke down on set from acting so hard. We have seen him play serious and curmudgeonly again, particularly in Logan. The Death of Robin Hood is kind of like that, but Jackman's just completely locked in on every level. He's chewing up that scenery, particularly in the first and last scenes.

The role was hard, no-nonsense and grizzled. It required Jackman to do a lot of hair work to look as old and devastated as possible. It’s just a wig and a beard, but he’s totally lost in the role. I had to remind myself several times this was Hugh Jackman I was watching.

Look, I get it. A24 probably does not want to compete with the likes of Dune 3 and Avengers: Doomsday, an event that fans and Robert Downey Jr. have been calling Dunesday. However, it also tends to be true that movies hitting the 2026 release schedule at the end of the year have a much better chance of a successful awards campaign when the BAFTAs, SAG Awards and Oscars roll around.

This is not a rule. You don’t have to have a late-in-the-year release in order to land nominations. A24 knows this, because they experienced it during the Brennaissance, when Brendan Fraser was nominated for The Whale. The movie also came out in summer, hitting theaters in September of 2022. It's just easier to get votes if you are a movie that is buzzy and fresh on peoples' minds.

So, yes, Jackman could still earn a nod, but there’s a long time and a lot of releases between now (the midpoint of the year) and when we start talking about the Academy Awards. Between this and the divisive nature of the film, I’m worried the bows and arrows will be stacked against him. It’s too bad if it doesn't happen, though, because he slaps in this.

Let me just say, from the start, that I appreciate what The Death of Robin Hood is going for. The latest A24 release from writer and director Michael Sarnoski is a bold take on the legendary figure, going to places never gone before in the many retellings of the outlaw folk hero. That said, as much as I believed this could be the first truly great Robin Hood movie since the Errol Flynn classic from 1938, it didn’t work for me. And yes, I'm aware there have been other versions that people love, but I don’t.

Making Robin Hood An Anti-Hero Wasn’t What I Wanted

It might even be a stretch to call this version of Robin Hood (played by Hugh Jackman) an anti-hero. He may just be a straight villain. Either way, I don’t like it. Going back to the 1938 version, Robin is the ultimate hero. Sure, it's corny in how over-the-top it is by modern standards. This is the Robin Hood I want to see, though! He’s not complicated in the least; he’s sure in his morals and beliefs, and he’s confident in his abilities. Jackman’s Robin is almost the polar opposite of this.

In The Death of Robin Hood, our “hero” is in a very dark place at the end of his life. And I mean dark place. The film is dark in every way. The muted color palette is gray and moody, and while Jackman’s performance as a tortured outlaw who is struggling to justify his past violent acts is pretty great, there is no redemption. Not really. The dour tone is nothing like the bright, exciting Errol Flynn version. This isn’t a hero I needed to see brought low for his life decisions. I got that in Logan. I want the guy who steals from the rich and is a hero to the poor and gets the girl in the end. I didn’t want another Wolverine.

I’m Not A Big Fan Of Other Versions, Either

I can already hear some people shouting, “What about Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves or Disney’s Robin Hood?” and I hear you, but I’m not a big fan of either of those movies, either. There is also the Robin Hood movie from the '70s starring Sean Connery that I recently discovered. There have been way more bad versions of Robin Hood than good on screen, be it TV or on film, and while those first two might represent the best, they still aren’t all that great. Prince of Thieves is especially frustrating for me.

I loved it when it came out, and I saw it in theaters. However, having re-watched it somewhat recently, I find it extremely dated and super cheesy. Kevin Costner is just too...Costner, in his performance. Yeah, his English accent is a mess, but that’s not what bugs me; it’s more that I really just see Kevin Costner, rather than a legendary character. Plus, it is in the middle of some of the most scenery-chewing performances of the era from Alan Rickman and Michael Wincott as the villains. Then there is that cloying song by Bryan Adams that I hated in 1991, and I still hate in 2026.

It’s hard for me to recommend The Death of Robin Hood, which hits the 2026 movie schedule this weekend, because it’s all just such a bummer.

In the new A24 movie, The Death of Robin Hood, Hugh Jackman rocks a long grey wig as he plays the older version of the titular character, and it’s honestly amazing how well it holds up. In a film full of brutal violence, dirty sequences and intense locations, I figured the wig might not be easy to work with. However, the actor told me the hairpiece actually held up really well; it was his fake beard that was the problem.

Now, Hugh Jackman is no stranger to wigs and fun hairstyles. For example, he’s rocked that iconic Wolverine hairdo on many occasions, and his long hair in Song Sung Blue was pretty incredible. In The Death of Robin Hood, which just premiered on the 2026 movie schedule, he has long grey hair that helps us better understand how tough yet worn down his character is. Speaking to how they developed this standout wig, Jackman told me:

Well, clearly, they worked out how to do it, as you can see in the BTS images Jackman posted on his Instagram. The actor looks totally different with the long grey hair. As a viewer, I thought this look was fantastic, and it helped make The Death of Robin Hood an even more immersive experience.

Now, in the fairly well-reviewed Death of Robin Hood, Jackman has to perform multiple brutal fight sequences, one of which memorably involves a ton of mud. His wigs (for the most part) made it through it, too. While he mentioned that they “destroyed” a few of them, overall, his character’s hair held up. However, the beard was a different story, as the Logan actor explained:

It must be a very bizarre feeling to be in the mud, in the midst of a fight scene, and realize your fake beard has fallen off. I also imagine that has to get annoying.

Also, this makes me wonder how many fake beards they had on hand. Jackman mentioned that they went through a couple of wigs. I’d imagine the same is true for the beard too.

Overall, despite the fake beard falling off and having to be taped to The Greatest Showman actor's face, his look is incredible. Robin Hood looks rugged and strong, and that’s in part thanks to the wig and beard. Thankfully, the wig held up in the elements…the beard…that was a different story, but a very entertaining one nonetheless.

Reviews for The Death of Robin Hood compared it to Logan, and rightfully so. Both movies see Hugh Jackman playing an older, more hardened and reflective version of very iconic characters. They also both feature absolutely brutal action. However, when it came to filming these two projects, they were quite different, which the director revealed as he spoke about how Jackman’s experience with Marvel and more helped them pull off the action in this new A24 movie.

As someone who has watched the Marvel movies in order and seen every film where Jackman plays Wolverine, I know that he knows how to kill these scenes. So, ahead of The Death of Robin Hood’s release on the 2026 movie schedule, I asked its director, Michael Sarnoski, how his star’s history with action was useful for this project. In response, he recalled how little time they had to make this movie, and how Jackman’s background helped them pull everything off in such a short amount of time:

To put that into perspective, let’s compare The Death of Robin Hood’s production time to Logan’s (which you can stream with a Disney+ subscription). It took about three months to film that Marvel movie, per IMDb, whereas this new project took one month.

Plus, it’s well known that a lot of time and thought go into shooting meticulous Marvel action sequences. They didn’t have that kind of time on The Death of Robin Hood; they had a night for each, as Sarnoski explained:

The action in The Death of Robin Hood is astounding. The visceral nature of it reminded me (and the critics) a lot of Logan, and Jackman performed it all spectacularly.

That totally makes sense, too. Hugh Jackman started playing Wolverine in 2000, and his last outing as Logan came in 2024. Based on Marvel movies alone, he’s got quite the action resume. He’s also stayed in great shape for decades and maintained that for The Death of Robin Hood. That helped immensely when it came to filming the brutal moments, because they were able to accomplish them under an intense time constraint.

Throughout his film career, Hugh Jackman has played many characters who end up dying, and that happens in a myriad of ways. Of course, the actor himself is more than self aware when it comes to all of the on-screen deaths he's acted out. So it would track that he took some time to totally troll audiences over his various demises, and this fittingly comes ahead the release of his upcoming A24 movie, The Death of Robin Hood.

As we inch closer to The Death of Robin Hood’s June 19 premiere on the 2026 movie schedule, Hugh Jackman is telling fans about it with posts about…death. It makes perfect sense, though, because the film he’s hyping up is literally called The Death of Robin Hood. So, what’s all this death I’m referring to? Well, take a look at this video the actor trolled fans with that’s like a highlight reel of the times he’s died on screen:

Well, if you haven’t seen Sheep Detectives (which got great reviews when it came out in May and is delightful), that could feel like quite the spoiler. But don’t worry, it’s revealed in The Sheep Detectives trailer that Jackman’s shepherd George dies. The big mystery revolves around who killed him and how his sheep solve his murder. So, you're safe there (and you should really see this movie if you haven't yet).

After that, Jackman’s videos featured clips from Les Misérables, Pan, Free Guy, The Prestige, The Fountain and Logan. At the end, the death counter was at ten, because he dies more than once in The Prestige and The Fountain.

I find that the beloved Marvel movie Logan is probably the most fitting film to reference in this reel. As reviews for The Death of Robin Hood point out, the A24 film and the great Marvel movie are easy to compare, seeing as they both follow iconic characters at the end of their lives as they reckon with what they’ve done.

For context, The Death of Robin Hood follows an older Robin Hood as he’s “grappling with his past after a life of crime and murder,” the official synopsis states. After being hurt in a battle, the titular character is put in the care of a “mysterious woman,” and he’s “offered a chance at salvation.”

So, we’ll be seeing a version of this character that we aren’t used to seeing. He’s old, hardened and a lot more brutal than the tales made him out to be. As the title implies, he’ll be reckoning with his life and death, and overall, it's a fascinating and subversive exploration of Robin Hood.

We’ve seen several movies over the years that show us a reimagining of a character or story we thought we knew, and A24's The Death of Robin Hood is set to hit the 2026 movie calendar to do just that with the titular outlaw. On the opposite end of the spectrum that gave us animated foxes and men in tights is Hugh Jackman’s brutal version of the legendary archer. What I'm especially excited about, though, are critics' comparisons to another Jackman movie.

The Death of Robin Hood violently shoots down the familiar image of a man who stole from the rich to give to the poor, instead painting the protagonist as a wounded man who’s now grappling with a life spent satisfying an insatiable bloodlust. It’s not unlike what we saw from Hugh Jackman in Logan, Brandon David Wilson of RogerEbert says in his review of The Death of Robin Hood, down to his being forced to care for a little girl. The critic rates it 3.5 out of 4 stars, writing:

Jim Vejvoda of IGN gives it a “Good” 7 out of 10 for an astonishing cast that includes Jodie Comer, Bill Skarsgård, Murray Bartlett and Noah Jupe, gory kills and artsy drama from writer/director Michael Sarnoski. However, the “Logan of Robin Hood movies,” as the critic calls it, is more niche and less accessible than Sarnoski’s previous two projects — Pig and A Quiet Place: Day One. Vejvoda writes:

Guy Lodge of Variety says The Death of Robin Hood is “exquisitely crafted and emotionally intelligent” but almost wears its dourness as a badge of honor. He continues:

Jacob Oller of AV Club gives it a C and says it’s more than Hugh Jackman’s wild facial hair that likens The Death of Robin Hood to Logan, as it follows in the trend of eating away at the fables that brought us to the characters in the first place, just like Jackman did with Wolverine in Logan. Oller says:

Kristy Puchko of Mashable also notes several similarities between The Death of Robin Hood and Logan, but says in the upcoming A24 movie, Hugh Jackman’s character has less rage and therefore less energy. The attempt to rewrite this centuries-old character is “bleak, brutal, and boring” with “truly repulsive onscreen violence.” Puchko says:

While the critics don’t all agree, the reviews of Death of Robin Hood seem to be mostly positive, as so far it’s earned a 73% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes. It definitely sounds like an interesting story — if one we’ve seen Hugh Jackman portray before — but how good audiences are going to feel afterward remains to be seen.

Hugh Jackman has been playing Wolverine long enough to know how to dodge a Marvel spoiler question without actually answering it. The actor may be out promoting his other work on the 2026 movie calendar, like the upcoming A24 flick The Death of Robin Hood, but when he stopped by a morning show, the conversation inevitably turned to Avengers: Doomsday. So, when asked if we might see Weapon X in the Doomsday cast, he hilariously evaded the question.

During an interview on Good Morning America, Jackman was directly questioned about whether he is returning as Wolverine in Avengers: Doomsday. As you can see in about 2 minutes and 40 seconds into the segment, he did not confirm anything, of course, but he laughed his way through an answer that will probably do absolutely nothing to slow down speculation.

After the clip from the exchange hit social media (via Avengers Updates), fans immediately started reading between every line. But The Greatest Showman star gave nothing away, saying:

The room might have broken out into laughter, but Mr. Jackman has been through the Marvel Secret machine a time or two and knows how this works. He continued:

That is not a yes, but it is also very much not the kind of hard no that calms Marvel fans down. If anything, the Australian-born actor's playful deflection is exactly the kind of answer that keeps the rumor furnace burning. He knows how this works. He has been asked some version of the Wolverine retirement question for years, and after Deadpool & Wolverine (which is streaming with a Disney+ subscription), fans are even less inclined to believe the door is ever fully closed.

Naturally, commenters had a lot to say after Avengers Updates shared the clip. Some treated the actor's non-answer like obvious spoiler-avoidance, while others just enjoyed watching a franchise veteran sidestep the question without breaking a sweat. Here are a few standout reactions:

None of this confirms Jackman is in Avengers: Doomsday, or any new Marvel movies for that matter, but Marvel fans have made an Olympic sport out of turning every pause or joke into evidence that a particular MCU character is returning. Still, his reaction is exactly the kind of coy public moment that keeps speculation alive.

What We Know For Sure About Avengers: Doomsday

To be fair, there are plenty of reasons people keep asking. Avengers: Doomsday is shaping up to be one of Marvel’s biggest crossover swings yet, with Robert Downey Jr. returning to the MCU as Doctor Doom and several legacy X-Men actors already confirmed. Disney’s official cast list includes Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Alan Cumming, Rebecca Romijn and James Marsden, among others.

What complicates the speculation train is that the Fountain actor has retired from Wolverine once before. Logan was widely regarded as his farewell to the character, giving the Fox-era version of Wolverine a definitive ending. Then Ryan Reynolds came calling, the multiverse became Marvel’s favorite skeleton key, and Jackman returned for Deadpool & Wolverine, yellow suit and all.

For now, Jackman is sticking to the safest possible answer: A zero answer. Either way, watching him dance around the question is half the fun. Wolverine may be famous for charging straight into danger, but the long-time Logan performer knows when to sidestep.

Anyway, if you for sure want to see Jackman on the big screen, The Death of Robin Hood hits theaters on June 19. As for Doomsday, either with or without Wolverine, it lands in theaters on December 18.

Hugh Jackman has played various roles over the course of his career and, in the process of embodying those characters, he’s had to sport some serious facial hair. Jackman’s Wolverine beard is practically legendary at this point, and moviegoers can’t forget about those whiskers he has while playing Blackbeard in 2015’s Pan. Most recently, Jackman donned a wild mustache for The Death of Robin Hood. Now, Jackman’s set to play a big role in Ridley Scott’s Treasure Island, and I’m wondering if he’ll sport a wild beard in it.

In Ridley Scott’s upcoming book-to-screen adaptation of Treasure Island, Hugh Jackman will reportedly play Long John Silver, who’s arguably one of literature’s most iconic characters. Scott is directing the film from a screenplay written by Jack Thorne, who’s been receiving plenty of buzz as of late for his acclaimed TV adaptation of Lord of the Flies. Additionally, Thorne is set to serve as executive producer on the adventure flick, per Deadline.

The mere thought of Scott creating his own big-screen interpretation of Robert Louis Stevenson’s beloved 1883 pirate novel is just so exciting. Given this is the filmmaker behind massive movies like Alien, Gladiator and The Martian, I’m expecting a massive movie chock full of nautical adventure as well as some genuine catharsis. Something I’m also wondering is who might play the role of the main protagonist, Jim Hawkins. All I can say is whoever’s cast will need to have the chops to share the screen with Jackman.

Casting Jackman as Long John Silver honestly feels like a no-brainer, as the Oscar-nominated actor could bring a considerable amount of gravitas to the role of the opportunistic, one-legged pirate. By taking on the role, Jackman will be following in the footsteps of other actors who’ve effectively played the role like Orson Welles, Charlton Heston and Tim Curry. I have no doubt Jackman will bring his A-game from a performance standpoint, though there’s still the matter of a beard.

I obviously can’t say for sure what Scott may be going for in regard to Silver’s look, but I think there’s a solid chance he’ll sport facial hair of some kind as opposed to be clean shaven. That assumption comes mainly from other iterations of the character. Heston’s version had some whiskers, while both Welles and Curry’s Silvers had full beards. I could certainly see Jackman growing a beard and maybe even long locks for his latest pirate role but, then again, he and Scott may surprise us.

Speaking of surprises, I wasn’t expecting to see Jackman sport such wild facial hair in The Death of Robin Hood. But then, again, I wasn’t expecting the first trailer to show such a brutal take on the archer. Written and directed by Michael Sarnoski, the film sees an older Hood reflecting on the unsavory choices he’s made over the course of his life while he faces his mortality. Considering that, the character’s mustache is likely far more than a statement, as it also seems to indicate how time has impacted this rumpled antihero.

Hopefully, Jackman’s take on Long John Silver will also seek to subvert what readers think they know about the character. There’s no indication as to when moviegoers may actually see that movie, though, as a studio has yet to formally pick it up off the market. However, insiders believe Scott will reunite with 20th Century Studios for the flick. I’m eager to see how this movie comes together, and fans may want to keep an eye on Jackman’s social media accounts to see if he starts growing any hair on his chinny chin chin.

If there’s one TV show set I’d love to be on the most, it would absolutely be Only Murders In The Building. Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez always look like they are having the best time making the comedy, and this was further proven when a wonderful moment from the set had Selena Gomez performing The Greatest Showman to her cast members like she was alone in her bedroom. What’s even better is Hugh Jackman took notice.

I knew Selena Gomez and her relationship with Steve Martin and Martin Short was adorable, but it’s videos like this that only make me love them even more. No wonder they were at Gomez and Benny Blanco’s wedding, cake snafus and all.

But given Jackman’s lovely response, should Gomez go full musical for a The Greatest Showman sequel? Back in 2024, he was open to the idea of reprising his role of P.T. Barnum, but no official plans have ever been revealed. That aside, I need more chaotic posts like this from Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez as they continue to film Only Murders.

Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds’ faux feud-slash-bromance remains one of Hollywood’s most reliable bits, and apparently, it is now heading out onto the water. After Deadpool & Wolverine turned their long-running public friendship into a box-office hit, the two stars are re-teaming for a very different kind of project coming to the streaming schedule for folks with a Disney+ subscription.

Jackman shared the update on Instagram (see below), posting photos of himself with the BONDS Flying Roos, the Australian SailGP team that the two actors co-own. The post teases a behind-the-scenes series with Jackman joking that one of them is “sure to end up in the water.” Disney+ has also announced the untitled docuseries, which will follow the Flying Roos through a global SailGP season.

Hugh Jackman’s caption is exactly the kind of fun tease that makes me sit up. Jackman and Reynolds learning high-speed sailing sounds like the spiritual cousin of the hit FX series Welcome to Wrexham, except instead of soccer heartbreak in Wales, we’re getting expensive boats, Australian pride and the very real possibility of Ryan Reynolds bobbing in the water.

According to Deadline, the untitled docuseries will follow the BONDS Flying Roos as Australia’s fastest sailors travel the globe to compete against elite rivals. The team is led on the water by driver and CEO Tom Slingsby, who is an Olympic gold medalist, America’s Cup winner and a three-time SailGP champion.

The series also has a real sports hook. SailGP is a stadium-style championship featuring identical 50-foot catamarans racing close to shore at speeds of up to 100 km/h, which sounds less like a relaxing day on the water and more like Formula 1 on the high seas.

The project will come from Reynolds’ Maximum Effort and Eureka Productions in partnership with SailGP and the BONDS Flying Roos. Brent Hodge is serving as director and showrunner, while Rob Mac, Reynolds’ Welcome to Wrexham partner and executive producer, will also executive produce through More Better Productions. The series will stream on Disney+ internationally and on Disney+ and in the U.S. for viewers with a Hulu subscription.

That Welcome to Wrexham connection, the series is now in its fifth season, is probably the most interesting piece here. Reynolds has already shown he knows how to turn a sports ownership story into something accessible, funny and genuinely emotional. That show works because it is not just about celebrity owners, but focuses on community, pressure, history and people who care deeply about the sport.

This new sailing series has a chance to do something similar, especially with Jackman involved. He brings the Australian connection, Reynolds brings the documentary-sports-business track record, and together they bring the exact level of affectionate nonsense that makes their partnership weirdly durable.

Jackman and Reynolds joked in a joint statement that this is their first collaboration since Deadpool & Wolverine and that they expect “action, comedy, heart” with “a lot more water.” They also said they hope there are pirates in SailGP, because of course they did.

There is no Disney+ premiere date yet, but I’m already in. Give me elite athletes, fast boats, actual stakes and Jackman and Reynolds trying not to look completely out of their depth. And yes, I absolutely want to know which one ends up in the water first.

Kyle Balda's The Sheep Detectives has been in theaters for a weeks now, and folks have been absolutely gushing out the movie's mix of feel-good humor and heart. The Sheep Detectives' reviews praised its story, particularly the script written by Craig Mazin. And the accomplished screenwriter spoke to CinemaBlend about some major he had to change from the source material in the book to to screen adaptation.

The Sheep Detectives is a star-studded movie version of Leonie Swann' 2005 novel Three Bags Full, and I personally think its a must-watch for anyone dealing with grief. I had the chance to speak with Mazin ahead of the movie's release, where he told me about the biggest challenge he made in bringing it to the big screen: its ending. In the Emmy-winner's words:

In both versions of The Sheep Detectives, a flock of adorable animals ban together to solve the mystery of their shepherd. It's basically Babe meets Knives Out, but with an even deeper message. While the movie ended with the reveal that the killer was none other than Nicholas Galitzine's Peter Van Vuren, the book's conclusion is far more dark and bleak.

Because when the beloved sheep get to the truth of George's death in Three Bags Full, it's revealed that their beloved caretaker actually took his own life. This wasn't exactly the best way to end a family-friendly movie adaptation, Craig Mazin found a way to make it palatable for all moviegoers.

Obviously the writer has no problem to challenging stories, I mean look at his incredible work on The Last Of Us (which is streaming with a HBO Max subscription). But this was a very different project. Mazin spoke more about the way he approached Swann's book, telling me:

The flock in The Sheep Detectives is already pretty big, with an all-star cast of voice talent bringing them together. Namely, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Chris O'Dowd, Bryan Cranston, Regina Hall, Patrick Stewart, and Last Of Us Star Bella Ramsey (among others). But the novel had even more sheep characters, some of which needed to be combined help shorten the length of a film. And these efforts resulted in a 109-minute runtime that truly flies by.

The Sheep Detectives is in theaters now as part of the 2026 movie release list. Craig Mazin is working on Season 3 of The Last Of Us, which is currently expected to arrive on HBO sometime in 2027.

There are a number of exciting movies hitting theaters this weekend, including Kyla Balda's The Sheep Detectives. The book to screen adaptation features an all-star cast, and is a comedy murder mystery that's a mixture between Babe and Knives Out. Nicholas Braun plays bumbling local police officer Tim Derry in the new movie, and spoke to CinemaBlend about the way his agent convinced him to join the unconventional project.

Critics have been praising The Sheep Detectives, thanks to its mixture of comedy and moving story of grief. Braun is one of the main human characters and, as you can see above, the Succession star told me how he got involved. As he put it:

He's not wrong. The Sheep Detectives has SO much going for it on paper. Director Kyle Balda's credits include beloved Illumination films like Minions and Despicable Me 3, while writer Craig Mazin has recently worked on acclaimed TV projects like Chernobyl and The Last Of Us (streaming with a HBO Max subscription). Add in an emotionally-driven story and a stellar cast of actors led by Hugh Jackman, and it's not wonder why Braun ended up signing on. And he seems particularly proud of how the story was brought to life.

The Sheep Detectives trailer definitely highlighted the comedy that comes from the cast of Sheep as they try to solve their Shepard's murder. But the story is also very much about grief, and the importance of honoring those feelings, rather than pushing them down. Nicholas Braun went on to speak to me about the movie's balance of heart and laughs, saying:

While at first glance The Sheep Detectives just looks like a fun comedy with talking sheep, it's so much more than that. Like Nicholas Braun, I was moved by its story, and how it handled difficult subjects like grief. And I think it might join the ranks of kids movies that devastate audiences, such as The Lion King or Up. Although I think the movie is also worth watching for anyone who has ever lost a loved one.

The Sheep Detectives is in theaters now as part of the 2026 movie release list. Nicholas Braun is joined by some A+ live-action talent including Hugh Jackman, Nicholas Galitzine, and Hong Chau. And that's to say nothing of its voice cast.

This was supposed to be an article about how much I hate The Sheep Detectives, but I don’t really want to write that article. It’s not because I changed my mind and think The Sheep Detectives is good. I haven’t. I hate it. I might even say I really hate it. I’ll die on that hill too. It’s just that, also, in addition to hating it, I appreciate what it’s trying to do and respect the hustle.

I see a lot of movies every year, and the sad truth is that most of them are barely seasoned white meat. There’s a handful I really like or even love, a handful I absolutely hate, and then a bunch of mediocrity in the middle that I can’t make myself feel strongly about one way or another. Maybe I’m dead inside, or maybe an overwhelming majority of movies these days are sanitized and workshopped and edited and focus-grouped to the point they become soulless and bland and without a point of view.

Not The Sheep Detectives though. It's about a shepherd who reads detective stories to his flock every night. He dies (not a spoiler), and those same sheep decide to take it upon themselves to investigate his murder... and also to ask really profound questions about what it means to be alive and to be a sheep and to be part of a community.

There’s no way someone pitched this idea to a focus group, and they passively gave it a thumbs up. There’s no way a team of studio executives looked at some of the plot points and creative choices this movie makes and didn’t start nervously pulling their wool out. It’s utterly bizarre in a deeply affecting way that is impossible to be neutral about.

Now, once again, to be clear, in my case, it deeply affected me in a deeply negative way. I hated the contrast in tone between the bumbling human characters and some of the more philosophical animals. I hated one of the movie’s biggest moments, which felt like unearned emotional blackmail. I hated the murder, the investigation and the big reveal. From start to finish, I pretty much hated it all, except the basic idea and the vigor of the execution.

But that level of hate only happens when a movie takes a big swing, and The Sheep Detectives is one big swing after another. It has the guts to explore really dark subject matter and juxtapose that emotional depth with really sophomoric humor. It has the guts to make bold and uncomfortable choices with key characters and fully stand by the consequences. It has the guts to be its own movie at a time when very few movies have unique hoofprints.

Outside of this unhinged rant, The Sheep Detectives has gotten a mostly great response from critics. It’s currently sitting at 95% on Rotten Tomatoes. I think you should see it, not because they liked it or because I hated it. You should see it because it’s the type of movie worth having a strong opinion about. It’s strange and bold and messy and everything most movies these days don’t dare to be. Maybe it’ll work for you. Maybe it won’t. Either way, it’ll definitely make you feel something, and in an age of C+ retreads and flavorless dramedies, that’s worth your time.

I do love that an actor being ripped in everyday life has now become a strong indicator that he or she is likely portraying a comic book superhero or villain. Because it almost always works out to be entirely true. Maybe not so much in the ‘80s and ‘90s when things weren’t always taken to extremes, but absolutely these days.

Given that we'll see James Marsden back in Cyclops mode, on top of all the other OG X-Men stars returning for Avengers: Doomsday, I would be baffled if the Russo brothers make it all the way through that movie without bringing Jackman's Wolverine out. It's the kind of decision that would definitely need to be stressed and confirmed well ahead of time, as opposed to this elongated span of "Will he appear? Won't he appear?" guessing.

The only way I'll believe that the Aussie actor isn't in Doomsday is if Robert Downey Jr. himself publicly states that he's also going to portray Wolverine on top of playing Doctor Doom. Beyond that, my expectations are set in stone.

Taken together, it’s a familiar mix of excitement and fatigue, which is understandable when you’re talking about two of the most iconic superhero movie characters of the early 2000s. Still, as chaotic as the reactions may be, this wouldn’t be a fight pulled out of thin air. Spider-Man and Wolverine actually have a long, intense history of clashing in the comics.

My Take on Spidey Vs Wolverine

Marvel has a history of pitting the “Web Head” against "The Ol' Canucklehead," and this onscreen battle would be paying off a clash decades in the making. The most famous example is the 1986 one-shot Spider-Man vs. Wolverine, which proved how naturally these two collide, both physically and philosophically. Spider-Man’s absolute refusal to kill runs headfirst into Wolverine’s lived-in brutality. Now add the fact that this would reportedly pit Hugh Jackman’s Fox-era Wolverine against Tobey Maguire’s early-2000s Spider-Man, and suddenly it feels even bigger as audiences will watch two legacy versions, two entire cinematic universes, colliding at the possible end of one of them.

To be clear, this rumor is far from confirmed. But if Marvel truly wants Avengers: Doomsday to feel like a capital-E Event, this is exactly the kind of swing that could make it happen. Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man and Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine are emotional cornerstones for two different generations of fans. And seeing them collide on the big screen would be overwhelming in the best way. I’d be lying if I said I wouldn’t absolutely lose it in the theater.

Until then, I’ll settle for revisiting the entire MCU movie slate in order, multiverse saga chaos and all, with my Disney+ subscription.

In the past few years, Jonathan Bailey has risen in the ranks of Hollywood heartthrobs all the way to the top. After starring in the trifecta of Bridgerton, Wicked and Jurassic World Rebirth, the actor was named People’s 2025 Sexiest Man Alive – a title previously earned by the likes of Brad Pitt, George Clooney and Michael B. Jordan. If you’re wondering if all the winners hang out together, Bailey and Hugh Jackman certainly did.

Now, this was before Bailey had been given the title, which actually made history since he’s the first openly gay man to earn the special People cover. Here’s what Jackman said about how he ended up meeting this year’s Sexiest Man:

What a small world, right? Jonathan Bailey shot the Wicked movies with the cast from December 2022 to January 2024 (with an interruption during the SAG-AFTRA strikes). Deadpool & Wolverine, on the other hand, was filmed from May 2023 to January 2024, with the same interruption in between. Since they were both filmed around England, the pair of movie stars apparently ended up crossing paths and got to know each other.

I haven’t thought about it before this story, but Hugh Jackman and Jonathan Bailey have quite a bit in common. They’ve both been Sexiest Man Alive, and they both can crush a movie musical on the surface, but surely there’d be a lot to talk about between the two of them.

The pair have both had humbling moments on the big screen too. For Jackman, it’s probably those long locks for Van Helsing he told CinemaBlend are “just not sexy” to wear. Bailey had to be in the makeup chair for Scarecrow in Wicked: For Good, and likened his look to a “big wheat penis.” Anyways… while talking about meeting Bailey, Jackman had all but good things to say about him with these words:

While he talked about Bailey, Hudson (who just got nominated for an Oscar for her role alongside Jackman) referred to him as the Sexiest Man Alive. There aren’t many actors who can match the kind of superhero genre longevity that Hugh Jackman has had. Jackman made his debut as Logan a.k.a. Wolverine in 2000’s X-Men and went on to reprise the role in various films, with the latest being 2024’s Deadpool & Wolverine. Because of that lengthy tenure, the Australian actor was the recipient of a very impressive record, which he ultimately lost to Blade star Wesley Snipes. Jackman was recently made aware of the loss, and the witty actor shared a razor-sharp response.

Jackman originally held the Guinness World Record for the longest tenure as a live-action Marvel superhero, with that number standing at 24 years in 2024. However, Snipes – who made his debut as Eric Brooks/Blade in 1998 – managed to nab that title back when he reprised his role in D&W alongside Jackman. That appearance brought Snipes’ Marvel stint up to 26 years. BuzzFeed UK recently brought up the record loss to Jackman and, as seen in the Instagram video of the chat, he had a funny reply:

One thing to know about Hugh Jackman is that he’s all about the jokes (and that’s unsurprising given this is the same man who’s engaged in a faux feud with Ryan Reynolds). During his interview, for which he was promoting the film Song Sung Blue, Jackman was also asked if he needed to win that title back. Jackman then mused that he believed it would all come down to whoever lived longer. As for who would win, the sharp Wolverine portrayer shared a chuckleworthy take, which can be seen in the video:

Jackman is definitely no slouch, but Wesley Snipes is also a force to be reckoned with in his own right. Snipes’ imposing presence is arguably one of the biggest reasons why he’s so perfect for the role of the Daywalker. In 2024, many were hyped to see him reprise his role as Brooks (although the original Blade trilogy writer was confused by his appearance). The character’s inclusion in Deadpool & Wolverine was not only special for Snipes himself, but it was auspicious for Ryan Reynolds (the lead actor and producer) as well.

Of course, the re-emergence of Wolverine was a major moment as well, and Jackman has been candid about how Reynolds helped convince him to don those adamantium claws again. Now, as Marvel Cinematic Universe films like Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars approach, Jackman is receiving questions about whether he’ll reprise Logan at some point. He recently said he’d never rule out the possibility but mostly played coy.

Another appearance as his beloved mutant character could help Hugh Jackman take back his title (if Wesley Snipes doesn’t return either, of course). Considering the funny thoughts he shared on losing the record, however, it feels as though he doesn’t put so much stock into such accomplishments. Quite frankly, I love a sharp-witted actor who doesn’t take himself too seriously.

We all know the legend of Robin Hood, who stole from the rich, gave to the poor, was a talented archer, etc. Many actors have played the outlaw on film for more than a century, and Hugh Jackman’s the latest to give it a go for The Death of Robin Hood. While it still hasn’t been announced when the upcoming A24 movie will premiere on the 2026 release schedule, we do now have the first The Death of Robin Hood trailer to watch, and it’s quickly apparent that Jackman is playing a version of the character who’s not for the kids to see.

This is a Robin Hood who’s killed many adversaries over his lifetime and described as not a hero, but a “murderous brigand.” After being gravely injured in a battle, Hugh Jackman’s character begs for death, but is instead saved by a mysterious woman played by Jodie Comer. So with his story continuing, Robin is left to grapple with his past and potentially change the course of his life, which is what Comer’s character does for the people who come to the island where she lives. It also looks like he’ll put his violent set of skills to work protecting the people who’ve taken him in. So expect plenty more beheadings, stabbings, arrows shot and more, but this time for a noble cause.

The Death of Robin Hood is the second movie Hugh Jackman has lined up this year, the first being the mystery comedy The Sheep Detectives, which comes out in May. This trailer also comes just a few weeks after his latest movie, Song Sung Blue, premiered in theaters. I look forward to seeing Jackman’s Robin Hood dispatch his enemies in all kinds of gory fashion and learn if he can truly achieve salvation. But like I said before, leave the kids at home if you plan to see The Death of Robin Hood in theaters, as there’s no question this will more than earn an R rating.

Along with Jodie Comer, Hugh Jackman is joined in The Death of Robin Hood by Bill Skarsgård as Little John, as well as Murray Bartlett and Noah Jupe in undisclosed roles. Michael Sarnoski wrote and directed the thriller, which filmed last year from early February to late March. This is Sarnoski’s second A24 movie, the first being the Nicolas Cage-led Pig from 2021, and he also helmed 2024’s A Quiet Place: Day One.

I’m hoping that The Death of Robin Hood ends up being one of the more successful takes on the archer’s mythology, as Hollywood’s last two Robin Hood movies, which respectively starred Russell Crowe and Taron Egerton, failed to impress. And at least this gives us another action-oriented Hugh Jackman role to enjoy while we await his return as Wolverine in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Music lovers have been completely charmed by Song Sung Blue, the new music biopic starring Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson as the Neil Diamond tribute band Lightning & Thunder, and critics agree it’s both uplifting and heartwrenching. Meanwhile, some closer to the story have a different opinion about how the film portrays the life of Mike Sardina, with his son saying “it’s all lies.”

Michael Sardina Jr. told the Daily Mail that his father is “rolling in his grave right now” after director Craig Brewer’s Song Sung Blue failed to depict their true family dynamic, with Sardina Jr. saying he was “purposely cut out of the film.” According to the late musician’s son:

Mike Sardina’s son from his second marriage to Diane Annunziata was not a character in Song Sung Blue, though he did get $30,000 as a "consultant" for the movie. Mike Jr.’s sister Angelina, meanwhile, was portrayed, as were their stepmom Claire’s children from a previous marriage. Mike Jr. called Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson “monsters” for not mentioning him during the promotional tour, saying:

The director reportedly acknowledged Mike Sardina Jr.’s frustration in text messages to Angelina in October after she and her brother saw the film. Craig Brewer allegedly wrote there was “so much that I didn't get that was accurate” and that he thought Mike Jr.’s issues were due to the fact that “he didn’t directly help the movie.”

Mike Sardina’s son said he’s apparently considering legal action against the production company, Davis Entertainment, as well as distributors Focus Features and NBCUniversal, telling the tabloid:

Mike Sardina Jr. says Song Sung Blue left out much about his dad's recovery journey, as well as details of their “extremely violent” household, including drug use and sibling rivalry between him and his stepbrother. His sister supports the claims, admitting that while the movie does get the love between her father and Claire right, it’s not an accurate portrayal of their lives. She said:

Meanwhile, their stepmother Claire Sardina, aka “Thunder,” has given her full support to Song Sung Blue, appearing alongside Kate Hudson and the other cast members at various premieres of the movie and even singing “Sweet Caroline” with Hugh Jackman at an event in Milwaukee. Hudson has been nominated for a Golden Globe for her portrayal of Thunder, with Jackman celebrating the achievement despite not being recognized himself.

Song Sung Blue is in theaters now.

When Hugh Jackman made his big return to Marvel movies, it seemed the impossible had happened. The actor was pretty clear that Logan would be his final movie as the character, and yet, there he was alongside Ryan Reynolds in Deadpool & Wolverine. Pandora's box was opened, and now that he's back, it's possible he's getting his own upcoming movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

While rumors persist that his buddy, Patrick Stewart, will retire from acting after Avengers: Doomsday, a new report suggests that Hugh Jackman will appear as Wolverine in a standalone movie. Credit to X user @KnightGambit, who noticed that there's a Marvel patent on the United States Patent and Trademark Office site specifically for "WOLVERINE". Take a look:

Now, this could mean that a Marvel is planning another Wolverine movie, but at the same time, it could mean a lot of other things. For example, it could mean a streaming series is on the way. It's even possible this could be for a legacy toy line or something of that nature. It also could just mean that it was time to renew the copyright on the character, which is entirely possible as well.

Not to rain on anyone's parade, but every major organization is known to snatch up patents for various properties, names, or characters, and sometimes, nothing ever comes of it. There are times in which it does, however, which is to say there is certainly a chance Marvel is planning a major move with Hugh Jackman's Wolverine.

If that is happening, I don't find it surprising. Deadpool & Wolverine crushed at the box office, and James Marsden has said he and other X-Men actors have been bombarded with questions for years about when they will return. It seems like a lot of people want to see Hugh Jackman back again as Wolverine in his own movie, and I think it would be silly of Marvel to ignore that.

Of course, right now Marvel is being cagey about what's next for the character, and hasn't even confirmed Wolverine will be in Avengers: Doomsday. Hugh Jackman isn't talking either, and has rebuffed any attempts to pry the answer out of him.

That said, for all of the reasons it makes sense to make a Wolverine movie, it also makes sense that he would be part of the cast of Avengers: Doomsday. As such, I would imagine that movie will be a major key in figuring out whether or not a Wolverine movie is going to happen, and what it could be about as well.

Avengers: Doomsday is already one of the biggest 2026 movie releases on the docket, and it's coming out December 18th. So we have plenty of time for more rumors and potential confirmation about whatever is next for Hugh Jackman's return as Wolverine. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a limited series, personally, especially after seeing how well it worked out for DC with The Penguin.

As I was sitting in the theater waiting for Song Sung Blue to start, I was dreading hearing one song in the movie, which was released this week as one of the final movies on the 2025 movie schedule. The movie is a different kind of music biopic, named for a Neil Diamond song, and is about a husband and wife duet called Lightning and Thunder, who were a popular Neil Diamond tribute act in the ‘90s in Milwaukee. I knew that “Sweet Caroline” was coming, and I knew I was going to cringe when it did. It did, and I did. But that's only half the story.

I Don’t Like Sweet Caroline

With all due respect to Mr. Diamond, who I think has some great songs in his repertoire, “Sweet Caroline” sucks. I hate it with the power of 1000 burning suns. Whatever gene that people have that makes them explode with joy and sing at the top of their lungs whenever that song gets played, I have the opposite gene. I immediately recoil and look to get out of whatever situation I am in. I don’t like the song. I don’t like the sing-along that inevitably comes with it. I don’t like the Red Sox.

Okay, that last one isn’t rational in terms of the song, but neither really is my visceral negative reaction to “Sweet Caroline.” I shouldn’t hate the song; it’s fine, I guess, but I’ve never liked it. Even before it became all about drunk people screaming the lyrics and the “bah bah bah” part, I didn’t like it. I like other Neil Diamond songs. “Song Sung Blue” is great. “Forever in Blue Jeans” is as catchy as a pop song can be. “Cracklin’ Rosie” is a classic. The first concert I ever saw was Neil Diamond on the 4th of July in about 1983, and when he sang “America,” it was inspiring. But please god, no more “Sweet Caroline”!

Mike ‘Lightning’ Sardina Loves Neil Diamond But…

Early on in the movie, Mike “Lightning” Sardinia, played by Hugh Jackman, gets some advice from a Patsy Cline impersonator named Claire (Kate Hudson, who has been nominated for a Golden Globe for her performance) that he should do a Neil Diamond tribute. He initially bristles at the idea because the singer means so much to him as a musician. She scoffs and tells him to sing “Sweet Caroline,” which he again bristles at, explaining that there is so much more to Diamond than just that song.

It becomes a recurring thing throughout the movie. People want nothing by “Sweet Caroline,” and again and again, Mike explains that while it’s a great song, there are so many more great songs in his catalog. It’s almost like he’d rather not ever play that one, and I’m right there with him. Maybe it’s the contrarian in me, but I think a Neil Diamond tribute act that refused to play his biggest hit would be aces. Radiohead supposedly hates playing “Creep”; why should Lightning and Thunder love playing “Sweet Caroline”?

That became my favorite thing about Mike in the movie, and in the end, one of my favorite things about the movie, which surprised me in every way. It’s a great movie, and hating “Sweet Caroline” didn’t ruin it for me at all.

Hugh Jackman has had a long and successful career, one that’s been marked by a plethora of different roles. It’s also because of those various gigs that the Australian actor has sported a wide range of hairstyles. When thinking about Jackman’s ‘dos, his teased Wolverine hair as well as his rugged Van Helsing locks come to mind. The A-lister also sports a pretty smooth hairstyle in his 2025 movie schedule release, Song Sung Blue. So we brought up Jackman’s past haircuts to him, and he shared a funny thought (and a gross tidbit).

I’d argue that few actors have sported such luscious locks on film like Jackman has, and fans definitely don’t mind pointing that out. That’s also true of us here at CinemaBlend, as our own Hannah Saulic brought up those hairstyles when talking to Jackman and his Song Sung Blue co-star, Kate Hudson. Upon seeing photos of the Greatest Showman star’s past hairstyles, both he and Hudson had more than a few good laughs. The Van Helsing-era hair, in particular, really seemed to delight Hudson.

Hugh Jackman went on to share some insight into how he had to prepare to play the titular monster hunter in Stephen Sommers’ 2004 film. As he explained, he needed hair extensions to get the look that was desired and, while it may have appeared sexy on screen, that was apparently far from the case when he wasn’t in front of the camera:

Just the mere thought of that is unpleasant. Still, it seems the Oscar nominee can now see a bit of humor in all that. On a separate note, though, what seemed to surprise the Pan alum was that one of his wildest looks wasn’t included in our hair-raising round-up:

For anyone wondering about the film that features a mullet-clad Hugh Jackman, it’s the 2015 science fiction film Chappie. As far as we know, Jackman doesn’t have any upcoming films in which he’ll sport over-the-top hairstyles. He will, however, have a seriously wild mustache in one of his 2026 movie schedule entries, The Death of Robin Hood, which will see him play the titular archer. It’s likely that when filming was done, Jackman participated in his traditional post-movie shave, which he had after finishing work on his latest release.

As shown in the Song Sung Blue trailer, the movie sees Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson play the roles of couple Mike and Claire Sardina, who form a Neil Diamond tribute band. Directed by Craig Brewer, the film also chronicles the couple’s personal ups and downs. So far, critics seem to have enjoyed the musical biopic, with the performances of the two leads being highlighted amongst the praise. I’d also say that Jackman’s long hair probably won’t hurt his appeal with prospective viewers either.

Freddy Krueger, Edward Scissorhands, Wolverine. Three characters with blades for hands, and three characters so wholly associated with their live-action actors that it’s nearly impossible for another performer to step into the roles. Hugh Jackman attempted to bid farewell to the X-Men franchise and his mutant hero years ago, but has yet to actually shed his adamantium skeleton for good, and fans expect to see him in more upcoming Marvel movies like the Russo brothers’ Doom-ified sequel Avengers: Doomsday.

Well-known as being one of the nicest gents in Hollywood and beyond, Jackman appeared on the podcast Sibling Revelry to talk to its two genial hosts, Oliver and Kate Hudson, about his belief that being a bit of an impatient dick during his first X-Men audition helped spark enough interest that the casting directors brought him back. In a clip shared on Instagram, Jackman explained that the Marvel movie came about as he was striking out to get his career going outside of Australia. Speaking to his local caché at the time, he said:

To leave one job to try out for another one would seemingly just be asking for trouble, especially when there's a time element involved. But Jackman was confident enough that he could try out for the role and still make it back without disrupting any evening performances. And when it looked like that might not actually happen due to all the other actors auditioning, the Logan star said he flipped a passive-aggressive switch:

It sounds like thsoe who were present during that initial audition process liked the energy they saw coming off of a heated Hugh Jackman. Enough so that chose not to turn him away, and still let him say his piece. And thank goodness, because Jackman said that seemed to be what held their interest, even if he completely lost that vibe the the time he'd returned for the first callback. As he put it:

Not that putting on brusque airs automatically put him above all the other actors circling the Wolverine role at the time. He's stated in the past that the aforementioned audition was around 20 seconds long, and that he returned for upwards of seven total auditions before he was officially cast as the brooding badass. He also said Kevin Feige, who had yet to become the head of Marvel Studios, threw him an olive branch that also helped keep him in the loop long enough to land the part. Fast-forward 26 years, and now we're wondering if he'll be back for the first official MCU X-Men project.

Before any further Wolverine news gets confirmed or debunked, fans can see Hugh Jackman in musical co-lead form alongside Kate Hudson in the Neil Diamond tribute band biopic Song Sung Blue, which has been winning critics over ahead of its December 25 release in theaters.

We’ve been treated to some great musical biopics recently, including Jeremy Allen White's Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere and Timothée Chalamet’s A Complete Unknown. Giving us another contribution before we switch over to the 2026 movie calendar is Hugh Jackman in Song Sung Blue, the story of Mike and Claire Sardina, aka the Neil Diamond tribute band Lightning & Thunder. Critics have seen the movie ahead of its Christmas Day release, and they mostly agree it’s a little hokey, a little heartbreaking but irresistible nonetheless.

The critical acclaim for this one started even before its release to theaters, with Kate Hudson being nominated for a 2026 Golden Globe, which her co-star called “richly deserved.” That’s an opinion that Kristy Puchko of Mashable shares, calling the actress’ performance “absolutely extraordinary.” Director Craig Brewer somehow delivers both a feel-good movie and a good tearjerker, the critic says, writing:

Alonso Duralde of The Film Verdict also praises Kate Hudson for inhabiting her character so authentically. The critic says the movie is more than a little corny, but what better way to celebrate Neil Diamond’s music and the people who sing it? Duralde continues:

Owen Gleiberman of Variety calls Song Sung Blue a “winning pop nostalgia trip with a dark side.” Hugh Jackman’s voice perfectly captures what fans love about Neil Diamond’s low command and smooth articulation. The movie threatens to lose its pace when tragedy strikes Claire, Gleiberman writes, but …

Bob Strauss for the San Francisco Chronicle says Hugh Jackman is perfectly cast, and Kate Hudson is a “revelation.” Put together, Song Sung Blue is “impossible to resist.” The critic writes:

Johnny Oleksinski of the N.Y. Post gives it 2.5 out of 4 stars, writing that the music and actors are fine, but what is supposed to be moving is just a bummer. The critic says:

Overall, 54 critics so far have rated Song Sung Blue 72% on Rotten Tomatoes, so this seems to be a great option for Neil Diamond fans, music lovers or anyone who needs a heartwarming tearjerker to accompany their holiday festivities. The Lightning & Thunder story will hit theaters on Thursday, December 25.

As the 2025 TV schedule comes to an end, fans will be able to look forward to 2026. However, the new year will come with some sad moments too, inclduing end of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. The late-night talk show will officially come to an end in May, and the cancellation has been one for the books. Plenty of Colbert’s celebrity guests have mentioned the show's untimely demise since it was announced, and Hugh Jackman is the latest one to do so. However, he didn't talk about it; he sang about it.

Jackman appeared on The Late Show on Thursday while promoting his new film, Song Sung Blue, which is about the real-life Neil Diamond tribute band, Lightning & Thunder. To celebrate, the actor sang “Sweet Caroline,” but he totally changed the lyrics, telling Colbert it was a surprise for him. Now, I am both singing along and crying after watching this lovely tribute:

Obviously, Diamond’s “Sweet Caroline” will always be the best version; it’s an iconic song that you have to sing along to no matter what situation you’re in. But Jackman’s lyrics, incorporating the cancellation, really make it special. Then add on everyone else singing along, and you've got something great. To break all this down, here's what the Deadpool and Wolverine actor sang:

When it was announced that The Late Show was canceled, it seemed like everyone was up in arms over it. Plenty of late-night hosts shared their support and surprise at the cancellation, including Andy Cohen, who thought CBS was “just cooked,” while Jon Stewart got into a heated rant over what late-night is supposed to be. Meanwhile, instead of campaigning for himself for the Emmys, Jimmy Kimmel used his platform to campaign for Colbert and The Late Show, which ended up winning for Outstanding Talk Series in September to thunderous applause.

The show’s cancellation has been brought up on more than one occasion by guests as well. During Taylor Swift’s appearance last week, she asked for more time to pick her favorite songs, to which Colbert said they only have until May. Additionally, Emma Stone joked they could do a sketch the next time she’s there, only to come to the devastating realization that, unless she’s booked again in the next five months, there won’t be a next time.

The Late Show’s cancellation has affected so many. Even though it happened months ago, it's still shocking, and many are still talking about it. So it’s always nice to see celebrities really giving it their all when they appear on the program. And even though I don't think anyone will probably be able to outdo Hugh Jackman’s rendition of “Sweet Caroline,” I am curious to see what other surprises will be in store ahead of the show’s big finale in May.

Hugh Jackman basically broke the internet when it was revealed that he would be returning to the role of Wolverine in the third Deadpool movie. Based on the fact that the movie made a billion dollars, audiences certainly seem interested in seeing Jackman in the role. Now, while the actor isn’t discounting the possibility of a return down the road, don’t expect to see the claws in Avengers: Doomsday.

Hugh Jackman has said he was done playing Wolverine after Logan, but he’s been a little more open to the possibility of returning again after Deadpool & Wolverine. In a recent appearance on The View, co-host Sunny Hostin asked Jackman if those comments were a clue he may appear in next year’s Avengers: Doomsday. Jackman gives a pretty unequivocal answer, saying…

While Jackman’s face actually has a big grin on it when he says this, it doesn’t appear he’s trying to give one answer with his look and another with his words. While he may be back at some point, it doesn’t appear we should expect to see him in the Avengers project on the 2026 movie schedule.

Still, at this point, it does seem like only a question of when Jackman may return to the role. For a long time, we didn’t think we would see him again, but he reiterated on the show that he came to the decision that he wanted to come back and was the one who made the call to do it. The Avengers: Doomsday cast is pretty stacked already, and while many of Jackman’s old X-Men co-stars are in it, his name hasn’t been included among those we know so far. To be fair, a Wolverine appearance could easily overshadow many of the other returning stars.

It’s certainly possible that Jackman is just straight-up lying about not being in Doomsday. He wouldn’t be the first to simply deny being in a movie he was in, but to hear him say it, while he might be willing to return, it seems there are no specific plans for him to do so. Jackman continued…

One has to believe that Marvel would have no problem letting Hugh Jackman play Wolverine again. That said, whether or not he does may also have a lot to do with exactly what Marvel’s plans are for the X-Men more broadly. We know an X-Men movie is coming, but which characters or actors will be in it is still a big question.

Hugh Jackman is having a big month. There’s his upcoming 2025 release, Song Sung Blue, with Kate Hudson, of course, but also a first look at his character in The Death of Robin Hood movie broke. Now, we’re getting a look at another 2026 movie release, and this one sounds wilder than anything I’ve seen from Hugh Jackman in a while, and yes, I did watch those over-the-top scenes in Deadpool & Wolverine.

I guess I could give you a wool...er, a full rundown of the new movie starring Jackman and a slew of other major names, but really all you need to know is that Hugh Jackman, Emma Thompson, and many more are starring in a movie about sheep solving a murder. Yes, they are literal Sheep Detectives, and also, yes, that is the title of the upcoming Amazon/MGM Studios film.

Having seen the first look trailer for the flick, there are two things I love already about The Sheep Detectives:

1. The cast is absolutely stacked. I mean stacked, stacked, stacked.
2. The CGI on all the animals looks fantastic.

When I say stacked cast, I mean it. Hugh Jackman, Emma Thompson, Regina Hall, Nicholas Galitzine, Bryan Cranston, Patrick Stewart, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, The Bear’s Molly Gordon, Brett Goldstein, Chris O’Dowd and Succession’s Nicholas Braun are all in this movie, and it’s coming to theaters at the start of summer moviegoing season in May, so it seems Amazon is at least a little confident about the project’s ability to perform, despite having what objectively is just outrageous subject matter.

That said, the cast is so good that I'm already sympathetic for the ovines' plight, and can't imagine it'll be very easy to solve a mystery without phones or big clue boards or even opposable thumbs.

When I saw the early trailer for The Sheep Detectives earlier this year at CinemaCon, it was rolling with the title Three Bags Full, and even swapped out the MGM lion with a baa-ing sheep, (Not sure why they swapped that out for the lion here, since it was so on-brand.) This is the name of the actual book by Leonie Swann the movie is based on, but honestly The Sheep Detectives really rolls off the tongue more easily, so I’m pretty happy with the change. If it does well, there’s a second book in the series as well.

I’m a little, erm, sheepish saying this, but The Sheep Detectives is maybe one of my most- anticipated upcoming book adaptations thus far for 2026. We’re obviously early in the game, but it doesn’t look baaa-d in the least. Stay tuned, as I plan to continue covering this movie and making as many sheep puns as possible.

Actor Hugh Jackman has had a long and wildly successful career, on both the stage and screen. Some of the best Jackman movies have also showed off his ripped physique, including Deadpool & Wolverine (which is streaming with a Disney+ subscription). I wasn't all that invested in his upcoming A24 movie The Death of Robin Hood... until director Michael Sarnoski spoke about his "intense" performance and the way his "musclebound" body will be on display when its released sometime next year.

While fans are curious about if/when Jackman will return as Wolverine in upcoming Marvel movies, he's been keeping busy with a variety of other projects. In addition to his upcoming musical biopic Song Sung Blue that'll hit theaters on Christmas, he's also playing the title role in The Death of Robin Hood. Sarnoski spoke to EW about what the movie is about, saying:

I'm not going to lie, this does sound somewhat similar to what went down in Logan. Jackman played a jaded and older former X-Man, who was living in regret and trapped in the past. It should be interesting to see what goes down in The Death of Robin Hood, and if these similarities will be seen by moviegoing audiences. Hopefully his fate isn't as sad as the Logan ending.

Later in the same interview, Michael Sarnoski addressed Jackman's bearded and grizzled look for the forthcoming thriller. It seems like he won't be too covered up throughout the movie, saying:

While not an action movie per say, I'm super curious about how fight sequences and Jackman's ripped body will ultimately factor into the movie's story. He's known for putting it all into fight sequences, especially throughout the X-Men movies. As such, I'm suddenly way more invested in what his Robin Hood flick will entail.

The Greatest Showman star had a shirtless sequence in Deadpool & Wolverine, showing that he's still got it at age 57. It sounds like his fat-free body will once again be on display as he plays Robin of Loxley. Sex sells, and I assume I'm not the only one paying attention after the director's comments.

The Death of Robin Hood doesn't currently have an official release date, although it's expected to arrive sometime next year as part of the 2026 movie release list. Hopefully we get a trailer and more information about that A24 project sooner rather than later.

Hugh Jackman is certainly not the first celebrity guest on TODAY to join Al Roker at the weather board. I would bet he’s one of the few to do so by interrupting the morning show host’s report. The Wolverine actor and Kate Hudson appeared on TODAY Monday morning to talk about their upcoming musical biopic on the 2025 movie schedule, Song Sung Blue. The movie is based on a 2008 documentary of the same name about the ‘80s Midwest phenomenon Thunder & Lightning, a husband and wife Neil Diamond tribute band. While the real Thunder & Lightning never met Diamond in their heyday, it turns out the X-Men actor has, and it's a story he decided to tell during Al Roker’s weather report.

Just after chatting with the Song Sung Blue actors, Samantha Guthrie passed the broadcast over to Roker to do the weather. The nearly 30-year TODAY show vet transitioned with a personal anecdote about singing “Sweet Caroline” with Diamond out on the TODAY plaza back in the day, and Jackman couldn’t help but one-up Roker about singing with the rock legend before becoming hilariously self-aware:

Ever the good host, Roker invited the Greatest Showman actor to join him up at the weather board. Jackman immediately stood up to finish his story, keeping it short and sweet:

While he was up there, the Logan actor figured he would give a slightly chaotic impromptu weather report that left the TODAY host doubled over in laughter. Though Jackman initially interrupted Roker’s broadcast time, it was all in good fun, with both men bantering throughout the whole exchange. Take a look:

Please, as if Hugh Jackman could be rude. I don’t think the Aussie actor has a rude bone in his body. The only thing that could have made that interaction better was if Jackman, Roker, Hudson and Guthrie had broken into “Sweet Caroline” live on air. It would have been very on brand for the Les Misérables actor and Almost Famous actress, as they’ve been doing a lot of Neil Diamond karaoke lately.

The duo sang alongside the real life Thunder, Claire Sardina, at the premiere for Song Sung Blue in New York City, as well as recently showed up at a NYC bar to celebrate their Gotham Awards win (via People) to surprise the bar patrons with some “Sweet Caroline” karaoke. This video of the surprise performance posted by @joeefowler on TikTok is electric, and as a Boston native, I would have given anything to be in that bar.

I wonder if things got this lit when Hugh Jackman invited himself over to the “Cracklin’ Rosie” singer’s house. If this is part of Focus Features’ marketing strategy for Sing Sung Blue, it’s working. Jackman and Kate Hudson are celebrated actors with incredible singing voices, but these guerrilla karaoke performances have me sold on their chemistry. I’m excited to go see the Golden Globe-nominated performance when it releases in theaters on Christmas Day.

Celebrity couples have a way of making headlines, whether its Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce or the former pair Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez. Another pair that's turned plenty of heads over the last few years is Hugh Jackman and Sutton Foster, largely thanks to his separation from wife Deborra-Lee Furness and rumors about the inception of their relationship. Despite the chatter, the pair were all smiles on the red carpet of Jackman's new movie Song Sung Blue.

Furness filed for divorce back in May, following the former pair's separation after nearly three decades together. There have been a ton of eyes on Jackman's relationship with Foster, especially following rumors they had an affair while starring in The Music Man on Broadway together. But they seem super happy together, and were cheesing while on the red carpet together. Check out the image below:

How cute is that? While the Song Sung Blue trailer showed Hugh Jackman's chemistry with Kate Hudson in the upcoming musical biopic, you can see how happy he seems to be with his current relationship. The pair have repeatedly shown up to support each other, and this time Foster was cheering on the star of the X-Men movies at the premiere of his latest movie.

Indeed, the pair of Broadway stars are smiling from ear to ear in this image, while also tightly holding hands on the red carpet for the movie. I have to assume this photo will quickly go viral, as the public is invested in what's happening with this particular celebrity couple.

Despite how much discourse has been surrounding the pair, Jackman and Foster only made their red carpet debut as a couple back in October. Prior to that, they were photographed a number of times by paparazzi, usually throughout New York City. It seems they're very happy together, with Foster reportedly moving into the home he purchased with his ex.

A big reason why fans are so invested in what's happening between Sutton Foster and Hugh Jackman is because of how long the actor was with his ex-wife. Deborra-Lee Furness also made a statement about feeling betrayed by her former partner, adding more fuel to the fire. Still, Foster and Jackman make headlines anytime they're seen together, whether it's a public appearance or simply walking around New York.

It should be interesting to see how Song Sung Blue ultimately performs. Kate Hudson earned a Golden Globe nomination for her role, with Jackman congratulating her on social media. Foster posing with Jackman should presumably help to get more eyes on the project.

Song Sung Blue will get its wide theatrical release on December 25th as part of the 2025 movie release list. We'll just have to wait and see what comes next out of Jackman and Foster's viral relationship.

Several years before he achieved worldwide fame playing Wolverine in the X-Men movies, Hugh Jackman was performing in various Australian theatre shows. That included playing Gaston in the country’s original stage production of Beauty and the Beast in 1995, adapted from the same-named critically-acclaimed movie released four years prior during the Disney Renaissance era. Unfortunately for Jackman, during one of those performances, he ended up peeing his pants in the middle of playing the chauvinistic villain, and most of it ended up in his boots.

Hugh Jackman talked about this embarrassing moment when The Howard Stern Show’s title host brought it up in their interview that’s part of the actor’s press tour for his 2025 movie release, Song Sung Blue. But as Jackman explained, this came as a result of heeding advice a doctor gave to him:

Oh yeah, we can all see what’s happening at this point. Drinking that much water throughout the day would make anyone want to pee badly, but most of us wouldn’t be in Hugh Jackman’s position of needing to perform in a stage show that evening. But it wasn’t just the tight pants that caused the eventual spillage, as he continued:

Talk about seeing disaster coming from a mile away. Dealing with arguably one of the worst-case scenarios for performing in front of a large crowd (in this case, 1500 people), Hugh Jackman was faced with needing to pick between two terrible options. He recalled:

Hugh Jackman concluded by sharing how rather than immediately taking his bow at the applause for him after he was done singing, he turned upstage, looked down and didn’t notice any urine soakage. So he laughed and thought his boots were “filled with piss,” but by the time he made it backstage and over to his dresser three minutes after the song, his crotch was “completely wet.” I guess we can say that no one pees like Gaston.

If there was anything good that came from this experience, besides how it sounds like no one in the audience noticed his piss-covered tights, it’s that Hugh Jackman realized “nothing can embarrass you after that.” I also imagine that he planned his bathroom breaks better after this incident, making sure he peed right before going on stage. It makes me wonder if he had any other close calls like this, like when he was performing with his now-official girlfriend Sutton Foster in The Music Man.

He’ll then return to the big screen for The Sheep Detective, which opens May 8 on the 2026 movies schedule, and it’s also rumored that he has more Wolverine appearances lined up for the MCU.

Remember when we thought the last time we’d ever see Hugh Jackman play Wolverine in 2017’s Logan? That was true for half a decade, and then he changed his mind and decided to play a variant of the adamantium-clawed mutant in last year’s Deadpool & Wolverine. As it turns out, watching one of Eddie Murphy’s best movies played into Jackman deciding that it was worth returning to what arguably remains his most well-known role.

Jackman revealed this while he was speaking with Wicked: For Good’s Cynthia Erivo, a fellow musical theatre powerhouse, in the latest episode of Variety’s Actors on Actors series. When the actress asked him if we’ll see him play Wolverine again in any upcoming Marvel movies, he responded:

Released in 1982, 48 Hrs. was Eddie Murphy’s film debut after making a name for himself in standup comedy and as a Saturday Night Live cast member. Murphy played Reggie Hammond, the convict who’s forced to team up with Nick Nolte’s Jack Cates, a San Francisco Police Inspector, to apprehend two hardened criminals. 48 Hrs. still ranks as one of the best buddy cop movies, and Murphy continues to think highly of it, though it just barely missed out on making the Mount Rushmore of his filmography.

So upon seeing the first Deadpool movie, Hugh Jackman was immediately thinking about delivering a 48 Hrs.-like dynamic with his Wolverine and Ryan Reynolds’ Wade Wilson. However, Jackman didn’t initially act on this and stuck with Logan being his final outing. Considering how things turned out with Deadpool & Wolverine, he’s no longer willing to make such bold proclamations about his future as Wolverine, explaining:

Logan still functions exceptionally as the closing chapter of the Wolverine he’d been playing since 2000’s X-Men, but the Wolverine he’s playing now has a new lease on life after saving Earth-10005 with Deadpool and moving to this universe. That’s not to say that we’ll definitely see him reprising Logan in Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, but at least he’s open to doing so rather than outright ruling it out. Besides, he doesn’t play to play Wolverine again to work with Ryan Reynolds and Shawn Levy, as the trio are reuniting for a non-Marvel movie.

If the rumors are true, though, Hugh Jackman will return as Wolverine in Avengers: Secret Wars and “more projects” if/when the day comes that the X-Men movies are rebooted for the MCU. For now, you can see his latest movie, Song Sung Blue, in theaters starting December 25, and 48 Hrs. can be streamed with a Paramount+ subscription.

Awards Season has officially begun, to the joy of cinephiles and TV addicts alike. Both of those communities paid attention when the 2026 Golden Globe nominations were announced yesterday, honoring the industry's best contributions. That includes Kate Hudson, who got a nom for her role in the upcoming musical biopic Song Sung Blue. And despite not getting similarly honored, her co-star Hugh Jackman took the time to celebrate this accomplishment for the Almost Famous star.

The Song Sung Blue trailer showed Jackman and Hudson's excellent chemistry, as well as the musical numbers they recorded together on the project. Anticipation for the project will likely increase with news that the Nine actress was nominated for Best Female Actor — Motion Picture — Musical or Comedy at the forthcoming Globes. Jackman took to Instagram to celebrate this accomplishment, posting:

How sweet is that? If the star of the X-Men movies (which are streaming with a Disney+ subscription) is disappointed about not being recognized by the Globes this year, he didn't let on. Instead he took the time to share this message of congratulations for Kate Hudson to his whopping 33.8 million followers on Instagram. He seems both proud of his co-star, as well as the movie as a whole getting recognition this Awards Season. We'll just have to wait and see if Hudson manages to snatch a trophy or not.

Rather than focused on Neil Diamond himself, Song Sung Blue is a biopic about a cover band that formed called Lightning & Thunder. Kate Hudson and Hugh Jackman lead a killer cast of actors, which also includes names like The Sopranos' Michael Imperioli, Mustafa Shakir, as well as Broadway stars Beth Malone and Sean Allan Krill. There's plenty of musical talent involved, so it should be fun to see the musical numbers that will be included throughout its 132-minute runtime.

In many ways Song Sung Blue feels like a return to form for Kate Hudson. Her role in Almost Famous was also about the music industry, albeit from a different lens. And after making a splash singing and dancing in Nine, it's exciting that she'll be able to belt out some tunes in the upcoming movie. Clearly critics are happy with this performance, as she's gotten a Golden Globe nomination prior to the movie even getting its wide theatrical release.

It certainly seems like Hudson and Jackman enjoyed their time together and had great chemistry, which I assume will take center stage as the pair of stars promote the movie. We'll just have to wait and see if more Awards Season nods are coming.
