It’s been about four years since Britney Spears' conservatorship ended. However, it’s still highly talked about, and there have been other legal disputes regarding it, Spears and her parents. It also impacted the singer, her family and her kids. Now, her ex, Kevin Federline, is opening up about it, as he specifically commented on his sons seeing their grandfather, Jamie Spears, for the first time in seven years and the impact the conservatorship had on his former father-in-law.

Back in 2019, it was alleged that Jamie Spears got into an altercation with Federline and Britney’s son Sean Preston, who was 13 at the time. After that, a restraining order was put in place. Then, last year, it was reported that the boys and Jamie were reconnecting after being estranged. Now, their dad has opened up about the relationship between his sons and their grandfather, telling ET that “Jamie Spears is a flawed man,” and then explaining:

Federline’s comments fall in line with what his lawyer told Page Six last year. His attorney, Mark Vincent Kaplan, explained that Sean Preston, who is now 20, and Jayden James, who is 19, “miss their grandfather,” and he said that they had “forgiven him.” He also noted that the restraining order “expired on its own terms,” and that the boys had been in communication with Jamie.

The lawyer also said at the time that Federline wouldn't “oppose” a trip to Louisiana for them to visit their grandfather. Well, now we know that this trip has indeed happened, and Sean Preston and Jayden James have reunited with Jamie in person.

Along with opening up about his kids’ relationships with Jamie Spears, Kevin Federline also shared his thoughts on the conservatorship and how it was handled. He said this specifically about Jamie Spears:

Over the last few years, the Spears family has been under a magnifying glass, especially when it comes to the conservatorship. Britney and her dad had been in a legal battle for years after the conservatorship ended over legal fees, and that case was settled in 2024.

In this new interview, Kevin Federline continued to elaborate on how the conservatorship impacted the Spears family while also explaining his kids’ relationship with Jamie. He said:

Over the years, both Federline and Britney have been critical of each other on social media, and there’s been drama between her, him and their kids. Recently, Federline also explained in his memoir that “the situation with Britney feels like it’s racing toward something irreversible.” He also said he’s concerned that if something doesn’t change, their “sons will be left holding the pieces.”

Now, with his new book You Thought You Knew set to come out on October 21, I’m sure more information will come to light about Federline, his kids and their relationships with Britney Spears, Jamie Spears and more.

Of all the difficulties one could endure in life, basically everyone realizes that health and familial troubles are some of the hardest to handle, though a relative being in ill health does tend to make families mend fences. Jamie Spears recently had one of his legs amputated amid several health issues, but that hasn’t automatically meant that Britney Spears desires to reconcile with her father, as a source notes that the situation is very complicated.

What’s Being Said About Britney Spears’ Feelings Amid Jamie Spears’ Many Health Problems?

Unfortunately, the years since Britney Spears was freed from her conservatorship in 2021 do not appear to have been easy for the pop star. She married Sam Asghari in 2022 after being together for several years, but the duo divorced amid cheating rumors about a year later. The singer has also continued to deal with issues in her relationship with her two teen sons by ex-husband Kevin Federline, Sean (18) and Jayden (17), and while she recently settled her lawsuit against Jamie Spears, she still said that “there has been no justice” for how her family hurt her.

It was in fall 2023 that news surfaced about the elder Spears suffering from an infection that was bad enough it eventually required him to have his leg amputated not long after illness struck. InTouch reports that the star’s father has also had serious problems with his colon and kidneys, but his most recent health issue has not led to Britney wanting to restart a relationship with him. As a source told the outlet:

Considering the way things have gone for many years now, I think most people would understand how this situation wouldn’t simply be black and white for the “Toxic” singer. Spears has made a number of shocking allegations about her family over the past few years, including that her dad attempted to extort her while having already paid himself roughly $6.3 million of the icon’s money while controlling her conservatorship.

Her issues with the conservatorship and her family go way beyond her finances, however, as the Crossroads star has claimed that the events which led to that controversial court order were actually “premeditated” on the part of both her parents, that they “locked me up” somewhere for “four months” and took away a number of basic privileges, all while profiting from the conservatorship, among many other allegations.

On top of her being unable to simply “forgive and forget” all the hurt she says she’s been through because of her father, the source noted that something else troubling the “Stronger” artist is where things currently stand with her and her kids, versus where they stand with her children and their grandfather. The insider said:

Federline had a restraining order put on Jamie after a 2019 incident saw the boys’ grandfather begin an altercation with Sean, who was 13 at the time. He apparently broke down a door and shook the boy when they argued then, and both kids had been estranged from Jamie since that time. But, it was in August of 2024 that Federline’s lawyer admitted that both boys had been speaking to Jamie again because they “miss” him and “have forgiven him.”

Seeing as how Britney still has a lot of animosity toward her father, and has said publicly that she wants a better relationship with her children, it makes sense that she might feel slighted by their willingness to forgive Jamie, but not look for closer contact with her. While Jamie’s illnesses haven’t made Britney want additional contact with her dad, we can all hope that her sons want to reach out to their mom sooner rather than later.

Despite all the drama and allegations between Britney Spears and her family, and specifically her father, Jamie Spears, reportedly her kids want to reconnect with him. While they’ve been estranged for a while, Kevin Federline’s attorney recently opened up about the boys reportedly wanting to rekindle their relationship with their grandfather.

Kevin Federline’s lawyer, Mark Vincent Kaplan, spoke with Page Six about Sean Preston and Jayden James’ relationship with Jamie Spears and how it's evolving, he said:

This comes after some accusations came out in 2019 that alleged that Jamie had gotten into a physical altercation with Sean. It was reported that he broke down a door and grabbed the kid, who was 13 at the time. There were no bruises, and Jamie wasn’t criminally charged. However, there was a restraining order placed on him.

Now, the lawyer has commented on the restraining order, saying:

He continued to explain that there’s also no “restraint” on the communication between Jamie Spears and his grandchildren.

The outlet then followed up and asked Kaplan if Sean and Jayden speak with their grandfather, and he said:

It’s been reported that the boys have plans to visit their grandfather in Louisiana, however, Kaplan didn’t confirm that. He did note though that Federline wouldn’t “oppose” the trip. When it comes to how Britney feels about this, it’s unclear.

All this comes a few months after Britney took aim at her parents after settling the lawsuit with Jamie Spears. The pop star had been in legal battles with them for years over the conservatorship she was released from in 2021 and legal fees that accumulated over that time, among other things.

The article did note that it’s unclear if this reconciliation has anything to do with Jamie’s health problems. He reportedly had his leg amputated late last year after falling ill and dealing with an infection.

While reports claim that Britney does not want to reconcile with her dad, the story seems different from her kids. Federline even said in 2022 that his kids are not opposed to having a closer relationship with their grandad. Back then, he also told ITV (via Daily Mail) that he would “absolutely welcome” him back into their lives “especially if that’s what the boys wanted.”

Along with all this talk about the kids reconciling with their grandad, Kaplan said they spoke with their mom on Mother’s Day, and that they were reconnecting with her.

Overall, it would appear that Sean and Jayden are working to have relationships with various family members, and as we learn more about it, we’ll be sure to keep you posted.

After the week Britney Spears has had, she’s going to need one of those extravagant vacations she’s been spending so much money on in order to cool down! First, the retired pop star settled a lengthy court battle with her father, finally bringing an official end to the 13-year conservatorship and the lawyers’ fees surrounding it. Then in more legal news for Britney, her divorce from Sam Asghari was finalized nearly nine months after the personal trainer filed to end their marriage. Let’s take a look at this week in Britney’s legal news:

Britney Spears And Sam Asghari Are Officially Divorced 

There was allegedly no drama as the paperwork on the divorce between Sam Asghari and Britney Spears was filed late May 1, with Page Six reporting it just needed a judge’s signature to become official. The couple — who was married for just a year but had been dating since 2016 — reportedly maintained the terms of their prenuptial agreement. 

That means the “... Baby One More Time” singer will get to keep “miscellaneous jewelry,” other personal items and the money she made before, during and after the two said I do in a fairytale 2022 wedding. Additional property assets will also be divided according to the terms of their prenup. It was previously reported that the prenup would keep Sam Asghari from collecting spousal support, and other issues were handled soon after their separation, including custody of their beloved dogs.

Rumors had swirled that there was trouble in paradise ahead of their official split announcement in August. Both Britney Spears and Sam Asghari were seen publicly without their wedding rings in the months leading up to the court filing. 

Settlement With Jamie Spears Ends Conservatorship Battle 

Britney Spears’ divorce was the second legal battle this week that was resolved for the Crossroads actress. The first was the official end of the battle over money related to her conservatorship. A judge ruled back in November 2021 that Spears be released from the conservatorship, putting her back in charge of her life and finances. However, questions remained about lawyer fees from those court proceedings, and Britney made allegations about how her father Jamie Spears had spent her money over those years, enlisting the help of attorney Mathew Rosengart to try to recoup some of that cash.

In the end there was “no justice,” in Britney Spears’ words, as the case was settled without her being awarded any money from her dad — and she reportedly forked over another $2 million to pay his lawyer fees.

All of this news came amid reports that the “Toxic” singer was in danger of “going broke” due to luxurious jaunts via private jet to French Polynesia; however, sources have disputed those rumors, saying Britney Spears is just fine financially, thanks in part to the release of her memoir last year, The Woman in Me. 

Now that these legal battles are over, hopefully Britney Spears does take some time to relax and recover, and the rest of us can mark the end of this week in legal news by watching the singer in Crossroads, which is now available to stream with a Netflix subscription. 

It’s been an eventful year for Britney Spears, filled with highs (like the release of her bestselling memoir The Woman in Me) and lows (including her split from husband Sam Asghari), and in the midst of it all, it seems the pop star has been making moves toward mending fences with her family. Having been in a relationship with Britney Spears since 2017, Asghari has seen first-hand what’s gone down between her and her family members, but that doesn’t mean we’re going to get his take on a possible reconciliation between Britney and her dad Jamie Spears, as one reporter recently found out.

Britney Spears recently reconnected with her mom Lynne for a “wonderful” birthday celebration, and rumor has it she’s open to making peace with her father, as Jamie Spears reportedly had a leg amputated after battling an infection. TMZ approached Sam Asghari for his thoughts on a Spears family reunion, and the personal trainer dodged the question with a friendly: 

Sam Asghari has been critical of Jamie Spears in the past, and TMZ reminded him that he’d once referred to his father-in-law as “a dick.” The actor, however, didn’t take the bait, and when asked if he thought it was a good idea for Britney Spears to reconnect with her family after all the accusations she’d made against them, he again said: 

He continued to sidestep questions about when he thought he’d get back into the dating world, who between him and Britney Spears would start dating again first and the type of person he would be looking for, instead choosing to wonder aloud if his car had been towed and voicing hopes that he hadn't gotten a parking ticket. After another photographer asked what was on his Christmas list, Sam Asghari humorously replied: 

Since news of their impending divorce broke, Sam Asghari has spoken about his estranged wife only a couple of times. “Shit happens” is the reason he gave for the couple deciding to end their journey after a year of marriage, but he maintained that they had “love and respect” for each other. In regards to her memoir, Asghari said he had already read The Woman in Me and was “extremely proud” of Britney Spears for the hard work she put into it.

Despite Sam Asghari declining the opportunity to slam the Crossroads actress or her family in the press, the relationship between the exes doesn’t seem to be as amicable as one might hope. Details of the divorce emerged, which included rumors that the actor wanted to challenge the prenuptial agreement he signed ahead of the couple’s 2022 fairytale wedding ceremony. The prenup dictates that Asghari would not be entitled to spousal support payments, but it’s thought that Britney Spears might pay up anyway to keep the “extensive confidentiality clause” from being challenged.

With a strong NDA in place, Sam Asghari might have more than one reason to keep his opinions to himself when it comes to Britney Spears and her relationship with her family.

Britney Spears has a complicated relationship with her family — having made several accusations against them for their actions during the 13-year conservatorship they held over her — but lately she seems to be trying to heal some of those wounds. After a “wonderful” birthday reunion with mom Lynne Spears, Britney is allegedly also considering reconciling with her father. Jamie Spears has apparently been dealing with health issues, and news of the possible reunion with his older daughter comes amid reports that he recently had his leg amputated.

It was reported in October that Jamie Spears was “severely ill” and had been battling an infection that required surgery. TMZ reports that due to that infection, he had his leg amputated a month ago. The site reports that the Spears patriarch was in the hospital for weeks and underwent five surgeries to attempt to contain the infection, but the efforts were unsuccessful. Doctors reportedly decided amputation was the only way to proceed.

Insiders claim that Britney Spears’ father is not doing well, as he’s also suffering other ailments and has been under stress from the criticism he’s received in the aftermath of the release of his daughter’s memoir The Woman in Me.

Britney Spears hasn’t held back in regards to criticism of her father during her conservatorship, saying his treatment of her was akin to sex trafficking. In addition to taking away other freedoms from her, including not being able to drive, drink alcohol or remove her IUD, the pop star has said Jamie Spears extorted her and made millions of dollars from the conservatorship.

However, TMZ reports that amid her dad’s health battles, Britney Spears has softened toward Jamie. She reportedly has said she misses him and was allegedly willing to help him out financially by sending him money. The sources allege that Jamie harbors no ill will toward his daughter, and there’s nothing he’d want more than to reconcile.

Jamie Spears has defended the conservatorship over the years, maintaining that he was right to take action and that his daughter might not be alive today if he hadn’t. He allegedly also had no interest in reading what Britney had to say about him in her tell-all book.

That memoir, however, might have put the “Hold Me Closer” singer on a path to healing her relationship with her family, as she apparently found the process of telling her story “so cathartic.” It’s also been a difficult year for other reasons — “2023 sucked,” Britney said on Instagram — as she and Sam Asghari decided to end their seven-year relationship after one year of marriage.

It seems like Britney Spears’ emotional journey coupled with Jamie Spears’ health issues might inspire a reunion between the two, where it once seemed like there was no hope that could happen. Spears has already reconnected with her mother and brother Bryan, and is reportedly trying to make peace with sister Jamie Lynn as well, so we’ll have to see what the future holds for her and her dad.

Britney Spears’ tell-all memoir The Woman in Me is out now, and it seems to be full of bombshell revelations to add to what she’s said over the years about ex-boyfriend Justin Timberlake and allegations she’s made against her family. The pop sensation also talks about Crossroads — her lone big-screen starring role — and her difficult experience with “method acting,” and now the director of the film has spoken out about what she saw between Britney and her father Jamie Spears years before he became in charge of her conservatorship. 

The “Oops!... I Did It Again” singer has had plenty to say about Jamie Spears and how she was treated for the 13 years she was under his conservatorship. In addition to not being able to drive a car, drink alcohol or perform new music, Britney has compared her father’s treatment of her to “sex trafficking,” saying she was made to work seven days a week and change clothes in front of people. Tamra Davis, who directed Crossroads, told Page Six that she saw trouble between the two back when they filmed the 2002 movie, saying: 

Britney Spears was the one calling the shots, Tamra Davis said, and while her mom Lynne Spears was “in and out,” the singer was mostly just around her assistant, Felicia Culotta. That’s why it was so surprising to Davis when she heard about the conservatorship Jamie Spears enacted in 2008, following Britney’s highly publicized breakdown that led to her receiving psychiatric care. The director continued: 

It seems Tamra Davis didn’t think Jamie Spears was the right person to take over control of his daughter’s finances, due to what she saw as a strained relationship between the two. Britney Spears would remain under the conservatorship until 2021, when the documentary Framing Britney Spears brought attention to what was happening to the “Toxic” singer and the #FreeBritney movement began.

Jamie Spears has also been accused of extorting his daughter, paying himself over $6 million from her funds and also using her money to pay tens of millions of dollars to others working for the conservatorship. Britney also recalls in The Woman in Me the day that her dad said he was taking over her life, telling her, “I’m Britney Spears and I call the shots from now on.”

It’s unlikely that Jamie Spears will respond to any of the allegations in The Woman in Me. He reportedly is not concerned about what his older daughter has to say and does not plan to read the tell-all. Both his ex-wife Lynne and younger daughter Jamie Lynn have previously released memoirs of their own, with both discussing the effects his alcohol abuse had on their family.

It’s no secret that Britney Spears has a contentious-at-best relationship with her father. Jamie Spears was responsible for the 13-year conservatorship that stripped the pop singer of her freedom in the early years of her adulthood, and she has spoken out several times about the control he had over her in what she has called an abusive situation. So with the impending release of Britney’s “brutally honest” tell-all memoir The Woman in Me, is Jamie concerned about his daughter issuing more allegations against her family? According to sources, the answer is no.

The Woman in Me is set for release October 24 and will reportedly include details about a number of vulnerable moments in the singer’s life, from her breakup with *NSYNC’s Justin Timberlake to her relationship with now-estranged husband Sam Asghari and, of course, the conservatorship. But TMZ reports that Jamie Spears is not at all concerned about what his daughter will say about him in the book — to the point where he said he doesn’t even plan to read it.

Britney Spears has already dragged her father both in court testimony, in which she compared her situation to “sex trafficking” as she recalled being made to work seven days a week against her will, change clothes every day in front of people and forfeit her credit cards, passport and phone. She’s also used social media as an outlet to expose Jamie Spears’ alleged behavior, including the day he sat her down and told her he was taking over her life. His attitude now, according to the trade, is: What else could she possibly have to say?

Jamie Spears has already faced accusations from ex-wife and his younger daughter in their respective memoirs. In Through the Storm (via Page Six), Lynne Spears wrote that due to Jamie’s alcoholism, she endured “years and years of verbal abuse, abandonment [and] erratic behavior.” Jamie Lynn, for her part, wrote in Things I Should Have Said that, “His bouts of drinking always caused me periods of torment and sorrow.”

Other allegations Britney Spears has lodged against her father include that Jamie Spears was trying to extort her and that he paid himself at least $6.3 million of his child’s money, while also using her funds to pay tens of millions more to others working for the conservatorship.

Jamie Spears may not care about what his daughter has to say, but Britney’s loyal fans will surely be interested to see what new information comes to light, especially after everything that she has already said about her family, and her father specifically. There have been legal concerns already, but those are allegedly due to Spears revealing affairs with “two Hollywood stars” that haven’t previously been reported on.

We don’t have long to wait now, with The Woman in Me being set for release October 24. We’ll definitely be keeping our eyes on that situation, including any reaction Britney Spears’ family members may have to what she reveals — if they do, in fact, read it. 

It’s been a little over a year since Britney Spears was released from the conservatorship her father Jamie Spears had held over her since 2008. While much of the time has been spent rediscovering her freedom, the former pop star has remained embroiled in feuds with her parents, sister and ex-husband Kevin Federline. Federline’s own relationship with his former father-in-law hasn’t been an easy one, after an alleged altercation in 2019 with Jamie led to a multi-year restraining order. However, the two must have put the past behind them, because they are apparently working together on a new project.

Jamie Spears has reportedly not seen his two grandsons, who Britney Spears shares with Kevin Federline, for three years, since a domestic violence restraining order was filed in 2019 after an incident between the grandfather and then-13-year-old Sean Preston. However, Daphne Barak of The Daily Mail reports that Britney’s father and ex-husband are now collaborating on a book about fatherhood, with K-Fed allegedly planning to document his experience in regards to the “turmoil” the family has experienced. Barak reported: 

Jamie Spears has apparently not seen grandsons Sean Preston, 17, and Jayden James, 16, since the 2019 incident, in which the grandfather allegedly became angry when the teenager locked himself in a room. Spears reportedly broke down the door, and People reported at the time that, “There was physical contact that made Sean scared and upset.”

In the early years of the conservatorship, however, Jamie Spears told The Daily Mail that it was he and Kevin Federline who made decisions for the two boys, saying:

Britney Spears’ father also spoke out about the controversial 13-year conservatorship he held over his daughter. Jamie Spears defended his actions, saying that he doesn’t know if she’d be alive if not for his involvement, and that most people “don’t have a clue” what the truth is.

The “Oops…I Did It Again” singer, however, gave a powerful statement in 2021 about what she apparently endured under her father’s control, saying it was similar to sex trafficking. She said that along with not being allowed to drive a car or drink a glass of wine, she was forced to work seven days a week and was not allowed to get married or have her IUD removed. 

News of Jamie Spears teaming up with Kevin Federline for a book about fatherhood is definitely interesting, especially given K-Fed’s drama with Britney Spears in the past few months regarding their boys. Following the 'Free Britney' movement and the release of the pop singer from her conservatorship, there has been a lot of focus on the singer's father, Jamie Spears. He was in charge of the conservatorship, and he has been at the center of the fallout, both from a legal standpoint and from a public relations blowback standpoint.

As the pop singer's father, he was effectively in charge of her finances and had decision-making power over much of what she was doing. After she was freed, the patriarch has mostly stayed silent, apart from legal maneuvers. Fans, however, have not been silent about him, nor has Britney Spears herself who has bashed Jamie on social media. This has caused many to view Jamie Spears as the villain in the story, but if he's to be believed, that's not the case at all. 

He sat down for an interview this week and outlined his personal feelings on the conservatorship. He feels placing his daughter under a conservatorship was necessary, and in his chat with The Daily Mail, he noted that what has been portrayed about Spears' situation is not "the truth."

Much of the fan perspective of Jamie Spears as a villain originated in the various documentaries and has come from Spears herself on social media. Since getting access to her own socials, the singer has routinely talked about how terrible her life was under the conservatorship, which was directed by her father. She reportedly wasn't allowed to drink wine, drive, use ATMs and more.

Spears' father didn't address those specific restrictions, but he talked more generally about how she needed to be "protected" by having her life more regulated. In fact, he went as far as to say he doesn't know if she'd be alive if a court hadn't stepped in and given him power. 

Jamie Spears hasn’t spoken out about the previous conservatorship a ton, but he did previously fight back against an allegation from Spears’ legal team. He said that during her conservatorship the pop singer’s bedroom was not “bugged,” among other allegations Britney Spears has made about her family in recent months. It's unclear if he'll give more interviews or if he's done talking for now.

Meanwhile, Jamie Spears has returned to Louisiana, where he shares a home with Britney's sister, Jamie Lynn. The two sisters' relationship has also been fraught over the last several years, though recently Britney seemingly threw an olive branch by penning a birthday message to her estranged sister. While that may be something, Spears still noted, "The family's a mess." 

Expect to hear a lot more about this in the coming months and years as the legal fallout continues and more than likely, Britney continues to share her thoughts on what happened and how she lived for so many years.

Britney Spears became a music superstar when her first single, "...Baby One More Time," was released in late September 1998. The storied career that followed, however, eventually took many turns that I doubt any fans were expecting, when the singer was embroiled in a number of very public struggles and had to undergo involuntary psychiatric evaluations. A little less than 10 years after she had her first hit, on February 1, 2008, she was placed under a conservatorship, which was partially run by her father, Jamie.

Britney Spears Spoke Out Against Her Conservatorship For The First Time In June 2021 

Fan fears for the “(You Drive Me) Crazy” singer had been mounting for several years, but publicly, she didn’t speak about the court order controlling her every move. That changed in June 2021, when she asked to address the court about her conservatorship. Spears proceeded to shock many people with her numerous allegations of abuse, including likening her life under the order to that of someone who endures “sex trafficking.” According to Variety, she said, in part: 

The star claimed that she had no say in her schedule and that unless she worked “10 hours a day, seven days a week, no days off,” she wasn’t permitted to see either her two sons or boyfriend (her now husband, Sam Asghari).

The Next Month, Spears Blamed The “People Closest” To Her For Leaving Her “Drowning” 

In mid-July 2021, she posted on Instagram (via Today) but later removed her comments, which blamed the “people closest” to her for leaving her “drowning” during her conservatorship, and said:

While the Crossroads star didn’t mention people by name, she appears to have been speaking about her mother, Lynne, and younger sister, Jamie Lynn, who had both come out to show support for her after she opened up in court. 

Around The Same Time, Spears Said She Won’t Perform Because Conservatorship “Killed My Dreams,” And Pointed To Her Dad And Sister 

At around the same time, in July 2021, Spears told her Instagram followers that she’d be unlikely to perform in the future, because working conditions under the conservatorship “killed my dreams”: 

She also said that she’d been “begging” to add new music to her shows and to have “real deal” remixes for her concerts, seemingly referring to her sister’s 2017 tribute performance at the Radio Disney Music Awards, which also included other singers covering her songs.

Spears had her lawyers file legal documents which claimed that her dad was attempting to extort her. This allegation was due to Jamie, supposedly, asking for almost $2 million for a “quid pro quo” in order to quit his role in her conservatorship, which he’d already agreed (on August 12, 2021) to do. 

Two Months Later, She Accused Her Mom Of Introducing The Idea Of The Conservatorship 

Only two months later, in early November 2021, the Princess of Pop posted (via TMZ) and deleted a conservatorship rant mostly aimed at her mother, where she admitted to sounding “mean,” but accused the elder Spears of being the one who gave her father the idea for the court order. She added that her mom “secretly ruined my life,” and told her to “go fuck yourself.” 

In Late December 2021, The Singer Said She Wasn’t Allowed To Perform New Music Under Conservatorship 

Roughly a month and a half after her conservatorship was finally over, the embattled star took to social media yet again, and told fans that she was “set up” to “fail” during her Las Vegas residency, because she “asked for 13 years to perform new songs and remixes of my old songs,” but was always told no, even while trying to keep that show exciting for fans. 

Spears Claimed Her Sister “Exploited Her For Monetary Gain” In January 2022 

The “Circus” singer began feuding with her little sister on social media in the summer of 2021, but took things much further in January 2022, when she had her lawyers send Jamie Lynn a cease and desist letter (reported on by Variety on January 18) during the promo tour for her memoir, Things I Should Have Said. Because the book and many of the interviews regarding it were partially focused on Britney, the letter claimed that she was “shocked” to see that her sibling had “exploited her for monetary gain.” 

A Few Days Later, She Called Jamie Lynn “Scum,” Alleged She Knew What Happened During Conservatorship, And Was Lying 

On January 29, 2022, a few days after news of that cease and desist letter went public, the “Gimmie More” singer went back to Instagram with a now-deleted post about her sister. She alleged that the Sweet Magnolias star’s claims that she didn’t know what Britney endured during her conservatorship were “bullshit,” adding, “you’re lying and making money off of me!!!! You are scum, Jamie Lynn.” 

In April 2022, Spears’ Lawyer Reported That Her Mother Benefitted From Conservatorship To The Tune Of At Least $1.7 Million

After her mom asked her superstar daughter to pay the legal fees she reportedly took on while attempting to help free her, early April saw Spears’ lawyer, Mathew Rosengart, report in his response (via ET) that her mother had spent “at least a decade” living in a large home owned and paid for “continuously” by her oldest daughter, with the total spent during that time being “approximately $1.7 million.”

In May 2022, Her Lawyers Alleged That Jamie Spears Made Millions From His Daughter’s Conservatorship

After months of the pop star’s dad reportedly dodging her lawyers’ attempts to depose him, Rosengart alleged in legal documents obtained by TMZ that Jamie Spears paid himself at least $6.3 million of his child’s money, while also using her funds to pay tens of millions more to others working for the conservatorship.

Spears Posted Audio Of Several New Allegations, Including That Events Leading To Conservatorship Were “Premeditated,” In August 2022

Late August 2022 saw the “Hold Me Closer” performer post and then deleted a 22-minute audio clip to YouTube (via Newsweek) that included many new allegations against her family. As she discussed the night she was taken away in an ambulance while surrounded by paparazzi, Spears said her mom told her beforehand that “people” were coming to talk to her, and added: 

Soon After, The Superstar Alleged That Ex-Husband Kevin Federline Hadn’t Worked In 15 Years 

In early September 2022, Spears responded to her teen son, Jayden, who had spoken to a documentary crew (via Daily Mail) about why neither of her children attended her recent wedding to Asghari. In her post, she alleged that their father and her ex-husband, Kevin Federline, “hasn’t had a job in 15 years,” alluding to the fact that she helped to support him and his new family financially as their sons continued to live with him.

In Late September 2022, Spears Claimed That Her Family Locked Her Up ‘For Four Months’

Just a few weeks later, the “Work Bitch” songstress went back to Instagram in a post that’s since been deleted, to tell followers about what she felt was the worst part of the conservatorship, and said that it was when her family, allegedly, had her locked up somewhere for several months. Her post said:

We’re not sure where this supposedly occurred, but her noting that she wasn’t allowed outside of “my own door” makes it seem like she was kept at her home and not able to leave of her own free will.

On October 10, 2022, She Accused Her Mom Of Having Slapped Her One Night

In early October of the same year, Spears went back to her social media (right before she deleted her page again) and made another surprising accusation, telling fans about a time her mother allegedly hit her:

We can probably expect the superstar to keep speaking out against those she feels wronged her for so many years. Luckily, it seems that she is beginning to mend fences with at least some of her family members, because she accepted a visit from her mother in May 2023, while June of the same year saw her have a pleasant meet up with her sister. Hopefully, this means that she and her bonds with her family can actually heal.

Britney Spears has been speaking publicly about what happened to her at the hands of her family after being released from a 13-year conservatorship. She has blamed her parents and family for putting her in the position and not supporting her. Spears’ recently posted about it on her Instagram, asking for a “genuine apology.” Though the post is now deleted, her mom, Lynne Spears, did comment on it, which is not the first time she has tried to connect with her daughter through social media. 

According to Page Six, Lynne publicly apologized for any “pain” her daughter faced during the 13-year conservatorship via an Instagram comment. Britney had posted a long caption on her Instagram post, saying that “a genuine apology would help give [her] closure.” The Instagram post is now deleted, but Lynne Spears commented on it according to the article, apologizing to Spears. The comment reportedly said:

These comments come after Lynne said earlier this year that she wants Britney “to be happy.” Also, earlier this summer Lynne posted a photo of her and her daughter saying she “tried [her] best to help” and that she would “never turn [her] back” on Britney. On the recently deleted post, Lynne reportedly wrote:

According to the report, the comment also said Lynne wanted Britney to unblock her so they “can speak…in person.” A source told Page Six that Lynne has been trying to contact Britney over the phone and she feels “helpless,” which left her with “no choice but to resort to social media.” 

This all comes after Britney wrote in the now deleted post that her family believes “they have done nothing wrong at all.” All of this is in reference to the conservatorship that her father Jamie Spears had over her. This put him in charge of all her personal, medical and financial decisions from 2008 through 2021. 

Britney has gone on rants about her mom and how she was treated. She said that it was her mom’s idea to put her under a conservatorship. Britney has been unfiltered about how angry she is at her mother, and she has said she is aware of “how mean I sound.” 

In the year following her conservatorship ending, Britney opened up about the pain she went through during this time. At one point she compared what her father did to her to “sex trafficking,” explaining she had to work against her will and she never had privacy, among many other things. She also noted recently that the worst part of the situation was that her family locked her up for several months. Britney has made it clear that she is incredibly hurt by what her family put her through, including her mother. 

Britney Spears’ conservatorship may be over, but the star is still in the midst of an ongoing legal situation with her father, Jamie Spears. Things have been getting quite serious between the two over the past several months and, at the moment, Jamie is to be deposed by his daughter’s legal team at some point. However, via a recent filing, the Spears patriarch’s lawyers are pushing back with some new arguments against the deposition. Not only that, but said assertions also ask that Britney get involved.

Jamie Spears’ legal team, via court documents obtained by TMZ, argued that their client shouldn’t have to sit for a deposition to address the various allegations his daughter has made against him. A judge previously ruled that Britney would not have to be deposed while her father would. With that, Jamie is making the argument that if he must sit down for one then his daughter should as well. His team also notes that because Britney has made so many allegations against him, such a matter should be given serious consideration. All in all, Spears argues that the decision to have him appear for a deposition is a violation of basic fairness in the eyes of the law.

The lawyers have also called out Britney Spears’ lawyer, Mathew Rosengart. The team asserts that he did not find enough cause for Britney's deposition to be struck down. In addition, Jamie’s legal representation claims that certain parameters could’ve been placed around his daughter’s deposition as opposed to ruling against it entirely. The lawyers say that questions and topics could’ve been limited.

Britney Spears’ legal team has been targeting Jamie for a deposition for some time now. While arguing for the man to be deposed, Matthew Rosengart said, “Mr. Spears can run, but he cannot forever hide from his legal and fiduciary obligations.” As mentioned, the pop star has made a number of serious claims against her dad, one of which being that he allegedly bugged Britney’s home.

All the while, Jamie Spears has also made a few other legal moves as of late. In August, he filed a motion to have some of his daughter’s previously sealed medical documents unsealed. At the time, his reasoning for the move was unclear, and it drew a quick response from her daughter’s lawyer’s. Britney’s team deemed it “a new low” for the Spears patriarch. The group also expressed displeasure almost a year ago when Jamie petitioned to have Britney pay his legal fees following the dissolution of her conservatorship. 

These new arguments regarding the deposition come amid a flurry of developments within Britney Spears’ personal life. Right now, she’s engaged in drama with her sons and ex-husband Kevin Federline and recently aimed another allegation at her mother, Lynne. On top of all that, Spears just claimed that she “probably" won’t perform again due to touring conditions. Time will tell how things pan out in those areas, and the same is certainly true for her ongoing issues with Jamie Spears.

Britney Spears was only recently freed from her conservatorship but the pop singer’s previous situation is still the topic of a major legal battle that has now taken an interesting turn. Lawyers for Jamie Spears, Britney’s father and former conservator, have filed a motion to have some of Britney’s medical records, previously sealed by a court, unsealed. 

It’s unclear specifically why Jamie Spears’ lawyers want the medical records unsealed. Obviously they would argue that something in them might help explain decisions of Jamie Spears during the conservatorship of Britney. Britney Spears’ lawyers are very clear in their response to the motion, obtained by Page Six, that the only reason this is being done is to attack Britney. Attorney Mathew Rosengart argues that Jamie Spears has “sunk to a new low” in trying to unseal the records and argues there’s no legal reason to do so, saying in part…

Britney’s team believes this attempt to get these records unsealed is retribution for the fact that a judge has ruled that Jamie Speaks must sit for a deposition as part of an investigation into his time as conservator for Britney. It’s also pointed out that it was Jamie Spears, and a previous legal team, that initially moved to have the records sealed. 

The motion, which asked that Britney also be deposed, included the request to unseal the records, was filed on July 22, but Britney’s lawyers point out the question as to whether Britney was also to be disposed was already set to be decided on July 27. The judge decided Britney did not need to sit for a deposition.. 

For their part, Jamie Spears’ lawyers argue that there is nothing harmful or of ill intent in what they are doing. Lawyer Alex Weingarten says that if there was “legitimately confidential” information in the records, they would still be shielded from the public. He goes on… 

Currently, the medical records in question are set to remain sealed until October 26 of this year, at which point there is already a hearing set to determine whether or not they should remain sealed. 

While Britney Spears’ legal battles may not be over yet, the pop star has certainly begun to move on with her life. Britney is a newlywed and she’s begun working on new music with Elton John.  

They say it’s the simple things in life that are the most extraordinary, and that’s likely particularly true if you’ve been denied access to those things for an extended period of time. After Britney Spears was released from the conservatorship she'd been under, the singer has been reintroducing herself to some of life’s simple pleasures. Last summer Spears was super pumped about regaining the freedom to drive, and in January the "Toxic" singer documented drinking her first glass of wine in over a decade. The newlywed continued to celebrate the post-conservatorship life by sharing her first trip to a bar.

Fans of the former pop singer are accustomed to seeing Britney Spears dancing and twirling and modeling different outfits at her and Sam Asghari’s new home. However, the “Toxic” singer took her followers on an exciting field trip, in which she and her assistant patronized a local drinking establishment. She shared her trip — and a sarcastic remark — on Instagram:

As she and her assistant Victoria Asher apparently enjoyed a drink and an app, Britney Spears couldn’t help but throw a little shade at her family, remarking that she was “so so grateful” for not being allowed to have a cocktail for the 13 years after her father Jamie Spears took control of her life. In fact, the 40-year-old said in her post this is her first time to partake in such an adventure. In the video, she shared:

Britney Spears definitely deserves to enjoy all of the fancy and sophisticated things in life. It was a lot more than the keys to the car and a glass of wine that were denied Britney for those 13 years. She’s compared her Jamie's Spears' treatment of her to sex trafficking, saying she was forced to work against her will seven days a week with no days off. She testified that she was not allowed to get married or remove her IUD to try to have another baby. 

She also said she was not allowed to perform new music or remix her old songs, and it seems like that’s another freedom she’s taking back. It’s been reported that the “Baby One More Time” singer met with Elton John to do a duet of “Tiny Dancer in a "super secret" recording session. Her new husband Sam Asghari also has hinted that his wife hopes to return to performing at some point. 

Speaking of Sam Asghari, the end of the conservatorship meant that Britney Spears was finally allowed to marry her longtime boyfriend, who proposed in September 2021. Spears and Asghari tied the knot in a fairytale wedding June 9, in front of friends including Paris Hilton, Drew Barrymore and Madonna, before embarking on a two-week yacht honeymoon. The free life certainly looks good on the former pop star, and even as the court battles related to Spears’ conservatorship continue, we love to see her taking full advantage of her freedom.

While Britney Spears has been living her best newlywed life while on a yacht honeymoon with Sam Asghari after their fairytale wedding, the singer is still embroiled in a number of legal matters over her 13 year conservatorship, which finally ended in mid-November of 2021. Much of this continued legal trouble has to do with Spears’ father, Jamie, and with the two now set to head back to court in late July, a Free Britney lawyer is calling for new people to be deposed, whom she believes had a hand in Spears being placed under that conservatorship in the first place.

Who Does The Free Britney Lawyer Want Deposed In Britney Spears’ Case Against Jamie Spears?

According to Insider, conservatorship attorney Lisa MacCarley (who’s involved with the Free Britney movement) filed an amicus brief earlier this week suggesting that Dr. James Edward Spar be deposed for his alleged diagnosis saying Spears had dementia and wasn't able to hire her own lawyer in a 2008 medical report, which supposedly led the way for Jamie Spears to petition for the conservatorship. According to MacCarley’s brief:

MacCarley also asked that all of the experts who testified and lawyers who participated in the closed, February 4, 2008 hearing on the pop star’s welfare be forced into depositions, along with the medical report that came out of those proceedings being made public, including anything that was redacted.

Why Did This New Filing In Britney Spears’ Legal Case Come About?

This brief was filed in the wake of Jamie Spears asking for his daughter to be deposed before their hearing, because of the allegations the younger Spears has made on social media that speak of his supposed abuses while he ran her conservatorship. Spears has been speaking out since last summer about the shocking treatment she claims she had to live with while under the conservatorship, and has pulled no punches when detailing the ways in which she believes her family contributed to her situation.

The trial at the end of this month is set to determine whether or not Spears’ dad spied on her as she has alleged. Jamie Spears has publicly denied any wrongdoing on that front, specifically in regards to him having a bug planted in Britney Spears’ bedroom, or knowing about “any such surveillance having occurred.”

What Does This Filing Mean For Britney Spears’ Case Against Her Father?

Right now, the short answer to that question is that it’s hard to tell. MacCarley had to file an amicus brief because she’s not one of the superstar’s lawyers, and those briefs are only filed by people who aren’t actually directly involved in the case they’re supplying information on. This appears to mean that the court can take or leave MacCarley’s suggestions with little or no thought, as she’s not truly involved in the case.

Lisa MacCarley herself told the outlet that there’s no basis "in the law" that would stop Jamie Spears’ legal team from deposing Britney Spears, so we’ll just have to wait and see whether or not her filing will make an impact.

Since regaining her freedom following the end of her 13-year conservatorship in November 2021, Britney Spears has continued to fight her family in court and promised to hold people accountable for the part they played in the abuse she said she suffered over that time. New evidence has come to light about the conservatorship that seems to indicate her former business manager Lou Taylor was involved in establishing the order that gave Jamie Spears control over his daughter’s life, despite Taylor’s previous claims to the contrary. 

Lou Taylor previously said she had “no role whatsoever in the creation” of Britney Spears’ conservatorship, but Page Six reports that newly surfaced emails — which were included in court documents filed by Spears’ attorney Mathew Rosengart — seemingly prove otherwise. Multiple emails were exchanged between Taylor and Jamie Spears and his lawyers in the days and weeks leading up to the establishment of the conservatorship, the new evidence shows.

On January 17, 2008 — just 15 days before Jamie Spears took over his daughter’s life — Lou Taylor sent an email introducing herself to Spears’ then-attorneys, Geraldine Wyle and Jeryll Cohen, that said, “I look for [sic] to working with you.” That same day, Taylor emailed Spears, confirming she had “talked to” his lawyers about Andrew Wallet, who helped manage Britney Spears’ money for 11 years. In that email she said Wallet and Tri Star (which Taylor founded) would “serve as co’s [co-conservators]” with the pop star’s father, Page Six reports. 

Lou Taylor contacted Geraldine Wyle on January 30, 2008, two days before the conservatorship was enacted, regarding an “official statement … on behalf of Jamie” to announce the situation to the press, and again on February 25 of that year regarding use of funds from Britney Spears’ trust. An excerpt from that email reads:

This seems to directly contradict statements made by Lou Taylor’s associate Robin Greenhill in a November 2021 sworn declaration, in which she said Tri Star “had no role” in Britney Spears’ affairs “in early 2008.”

Britney Spears hasn’t held back on her accusations toward her former business manager. In an unfiltered rant against her mother last November, the “Baby One More Time” singer name-checked Lou Taylor as she accused Lynne Spears of lying about her involvement with the conservatorship. Britney’s post, in part, said: 

This is just the latest in the back-and-forth court drama between Britney Spears and her family, and it looks like they might not be near any kind of happy conclusion. We’ll have to see where this new evidence takes the case, as the next hearing is set for July 13. 

The subject of Britney Spears’ conservatorship has been pieced apart by the justice system, various documentaries, social media and the public for more than a year now. Several claims, including some from the pop singer herself, suggest that she faced an unfair amount of control in the legal situation that bordered on abuse. Her father, Jamie, remains at the center of criticism for the supposed treatment, but he recently denied at least one major allegation leveled against him.

Jamie Spears acted as the lead conservator, overseeing Britney’s personal and financial well-being, for the majority of its 13-year duration. He ultimately stepped down from the role in August after intense backlash from the fanbase, citing “unjustified attacks” at the time. However, the former X Factor judge is still pursuing legal action against him. In the latest on that front, People obtained a sworn declaration filed in Los Angeles Superior Court by the 69-year-old, where he specifically refutes an insinuation made last year that he violated Britney’s right to privacy during the conservatorship. He wrote:

The bedroom “bug” allegation came out during the New York Times’ follow-up documentary special called Controlling Britney Spears (which is still available to stream with a Hulu subscription). In it, a previous employee of the security firm Black Box stated that they had recorded private conversations that happened in the bedroom as well as all communications that took place via her cell phone. He also suggested that the recordings were sent directly to the patriarch of the Spears family.

According to different court docs obtained by People in June, there has seemingly been a lot of back and forth between the father and daughter (via their lawyers) over the issue of depositions. Apparently, Jamie Spears is requesting the 40-year-old former actress to do a deposition because he “has a right to prepare his case” against “unsupported claims.” (Supposedly, she asked for exemption from being deposed previously due to the “emotionally difficult topics” involved.) Similarly, though, Britney Spears’ legal team alleges that her father has failed to appear on eight different occasions to a deposition on his end, and they hinted that he “cannot forever hide” from his legal obligations.

Numerous other accusations against Jamie Spears have come from the Grammy winner herself. Prior to the judge ending the conservatorship entirely back in November, she made a powerful statement to the court, in which she likened the control to that faced by sex trafficking victims, saying that one of the restrictions was that she wasn’t allowed to get married or have kids with her longtime boyfriend, Sam Asghari. She stated that she even had an IUD implanted against her wishes. Britney Spears has also said that she felt “stripped” of her womanhood on the day her father told he was taking over her life.

Nonetheless, the mother of two has since been attempting to move on from the debacle of the conservatorship. She finally wed Sam Asghari in a truly fairytale-esque wedding ceremony on June 9, only a few weeks after they suffered the miscarriage of their first child together. But she still has time to set the record straight on her social media about how she really feels about sister Jamie Lynn Spears and mom Lynne’s supposed culpability in the troubles she had to face.

Alas, the family drama might be dragged out for some time more. The next hearing in the case against Jamie Spears is slated for July 13.

It would seem that Britney Spears being free of the conservatorship that ruled her life for over 13 years has still not allowed the singer to be free of court proceedings. Even as she’s going through yet more difficulties in her personal life, with Spears and her fiancé, Sam Asghari, announcing her recent miscarriage so shortly after their pregnancy reveal, now the singer is in yet another legal fight with her father, Jamie Spears. The pop icon’s lawyers are now targeting the elder Spears ahead of their return to court, after many attempts to have him appear for a deposition.

What Is Britney Spears’ Lawyer Saying Now About Jamie Spears?

According to a motion filed yesterday in Los Angeles Superior Court (via Deadline) by Britney Spears’ lawyer, Mathew Rosengart, Jamie Spears is now “running and hiding” in his failure to comply with several attempts to have him give a deposition. Spears’ dad, who ruled her conservatorship completely or in part for nearly all of it, was originally supposed to be deposed in mid-October 2021, and give his accounting of the actual condition of his daughter’s finances, including precisely how much was spent during the course of that conservatorship. Rosengart’s motion to compel Spears’ deposition states, in part:

This motion comes as a court date is quickly approaching for both parties. Right now, there’s a July 27 date set for a trial which will begin to determine whether or not Jamie Spears spied on his daughter with help from the Black Box Security firm (as The New York Times reported has been alleged by the star, her legal team, and the investigator hired to look into the claims), which he paid for by using funds from Britney’s estate. 

Those court appearances are also set to figure out whether or not Spears’ father used her money directly or for payments to a variety of attorneys and other firms, with these proceedings being initiated because Jamie Spears petitioned back in December to have his daughter pay his legal fees (after the conservatorship had been dissolved).

Britney Spears and her lawyer are asking for a hearing to take place on their motion to compel on July 13, with Rosengart adding that “Mr. Spears can no longer avoid answering for his deeds.”

Britney Spears may be free of the conservatorship that her father held over her life for 13 years, but the legal drama continues. Following Jamie Spears’ removal as the singer’s conservator last year, Britney’s mother Lynne Spears filed documents requesting that her daughter pay the legal fees accumulated while trying to help the former pop star regain her freedom. Now, the younger Spears' lawyers have responded, asking the court to deny Lynne’s request.

Lynne Spears has not escaped Britney Spears’ criticism as the singer continues to partially blame the "people closest to her” for allowing the abuse she suffered under her conservatorship to go on for so long. That doesn’t appear to have changed, as, according to legal documents obtained by ET, lawyer Mathew Rosengart says there is “no legal basis” for asking his client to pay her mother’s $663,202 legal bill:

The “Toxic” singer’s lawyer said as far as what Lynne Spears owes to the firm Jones Swanson Huddell & Garrison LLC, which she'd hired in 2019, those terms are between the firm and their client, and that Britney Spears herself shouldn’t be put in the middle of something she had no part of. Lynne, however, maintains that without her help and that of her legal team, the conservatorship would still exist.

In fact, Lynne Spears’ attorneys says her daughter’s objection to pay the legal was “astounding,” according to documents filed in response to Mathew Rosengart’s request, per ET:

The objection seems to stem from the fact that Lynne Spears and others in the family benefited financially from the conservatorship for many years. Even Jamie Spears spoke out last August about his ex-wife’s inability to put “her daughter’s interests ahead of her own,” claiming that despite their estranged relationship, Britney pays for her mother’s Louisiana mansion, including all of her utilities. 

Mathew Rosengart’s request cited those issues as reasons why his client should not be held responsible for further financial matters, unless it was her choice to do so:

It seems unlikely that Britney Spears would choose to voluntarily give her mother any additional money, at least if her past comments about Lynne are any indication. Despite the role her mother may have played in getting the conservatorship reversed, the Crossroads actress went on an unfiltered rant last year against her mother, saying she held her responsible for Jamie Spears taking over her life in the first place. She did not hold back in her criticism of Lynne or her former business manager Lou Taylor when she said:

It’s unfortunate that Britney Spears is still having to deal with fallout from the 13-year conservatorship even after she’s regained her freedom, but she seems to have found a way to work through some of the trauma. She recently explained that talking about her experiences has been healing for her. Hopefully the court will rule on this latest issue quickly so that she can continue to move forward.

Britney Spears recently regained her freedom in November 2021 when a judge deemed her conservatorship “no longer required,” putting an end to the control her father had over her finances, personal life and medical decisions. However, the pop star still feels the effects of what she’s described as her family’s abuse that occurred over the course of the 13-year conservatorship. Spears recently recalled the day her father Jamie Spears informed her that he was becoming her conservator, and the effect it had on her.

The Toxic singer has been vocal on social media about what was taken from her in the years that her dad controlled her life, reveling post-conservatorship in being able to now drive her car and own an ATM card, and even drink a glass of red wine. But it's not all joy, and in a recent Instagram post, she revealed what Jamie Spears apparently said the day he became her conservator:

What an awful and terrifying feeling it must be to have someone, especially a parent, take your identity away by saying, "I'm Britney Spears." The singer said a part of her womanhood was taken from her that day, but it seems she continuously has been working to reclaim what she lost. That story accompanied a photo of her chest on Instagram with musings on breastfeeding her two sons and the strength of a mother’s body. Damn right, she got through it!

Britney Spears has not shied away from sharing the personal details of how the conservatorship affected her life. She revealed in open court back in June 2021 that because of the control her father and co-conservator had over her life that she was unable to marry boyfriend Sam Asghari and have her IUD removed to even attempt to have another baby. Her most recent post indicates that she’d take her whole career back if she’d have known what was going to happen:

The Crossroads star has been involved in a public feud with Jamie Lynn Spears over the younger sister's memoir, Things I Should Have Said. In the book and during Jamie Lynn's  promotion of the book, she shared stories that Britney have said are untrue.

Accusations of lying have been lobbed back and forth between the sisters, with Britney Spears calling Jamie Lynn "a scum person" for saying that her older sister once locked her in a room while brandishing a knife. Jamie Lynn called the feud "embarrassing" and asked Britney if they could handle it privately, but the older sister recently posted (and deleted) an Instagram message apologizing for the "scum" comment but wondering why Jamie Lynn would lie to make her look bad.

It's clear that Britney Spears doesn't trust her family members after all she's been through, and until more healing can take place, it looks like social media is where the singer feels most comfortable expressing herself.

After 13 years, Britney Spears is no longer under the conservatorship that was established by her father, Jamie Spears. Back in November, a judge in federal court ruled that the legal appointment was “no longer required.” Spears has subsequently thanked fans for their support through the Free Britney Movement and has expressed gratitude for the ways in which her life has changed as of late. But although the conservatorship is no more, there still appears to be some conflict between the pop singer and her father. The older Spears has petitioned for his daughter to pay his legal fees, and her lawyers have spoken out. 

Jamie Spears’ financial request reportedly stems from the dissolution of the conservatorship. People obtained legal documents that were filed in Los Angeles last week, and they state that “prompt payment” of the fees is needed in order to ensure that his daughter is able to effectively “to take control of her life as she and Jamie desire.” The singer’s legal representation clapped back shortly after. The lawyers referred to the request as “shameful” and proceeded to explain why they feel he is not entitled to the cash:

In early November, the lawyers also fired shots at him while laying out his alleged misdeeds. Shortly after the judge ruled to undo his supervision of the musician’s affairs, her lawyers said that Jamie Spears “cannot avoid the stigma and implications of being a disgraced suspended Conservator.” Those same documents also alleged that he had bugged Britney’s bedroom in order to “to capture communications.”

This new development coincides with the publication of a wide-ranging New York Times article, which included a number of financial allegations against the patriarch of the Spears family. One of them was the claim that he received a $40,000 loan from his daughter’s former business manager years ago. The news outlet’s story also alleges that Spears has amassed a sum of $6 million from the “Toxic” performer’s estate. 

Previous reports indicated that he was taking in a substantial sum of money as a result of being on Britney Spears’ payroll. Apparently, Jamie was earning roughly $16,000 per month under the conservatorship. He also received an additional $2,000 a month for “office space rent” as well as a portion of her business deals. It’s also worth mentioning that other members of the family were on the payroll, specifically the entertainer’s mother, Lynn, and brother, Bryan. Their salaries, however, were not disclosed. 

The beloved pop star and Instagram personality hasn’t been shy about hiding her feelings about her family. In a social media post this past summer, she called out the “people closest” to her for only recently lending their support to her as she attempted to end the conservatorship. The Grammy winner didn’t name any relatives specifically, though many seemed to believe she was referring to her parents and younger sister, Jamie Lynn Spears, at the very least.

When Britney Spears’ father Jamie was removed by the court as her primary conservator last September, many fans thought that would be the end of his involvement in the ongoing story of his daughter's independence. However, some news outlets began to report that the pop star's legal team would seek litigious action against her father for the alleged abuse she suffered under his supervision. While no such suit has been confirmed to be filed, the younger Spears' attorneys have spoken out on Jamie Spears’ behavior - and it’s not exactly complimentary. 

According to The Blast, Britney Spears’ legal team released a statement decrying the actions of her father and former conservator Jamie Spears. These new legal documents delineate Jamie’s supposed misdeeds against his daughter, and assert that history will not remember him in a kind light. Part of the statement reads: 

Jamie Spears had requested that Britney’s conservatorship be lifted last September, a marked shift from his earlier views. Matthew Rosengart, Britney Spears’ attorney, alleged that this change of heart was an attempt to salvage his reputation and avoid further legal inquiries. Vivian L. Thoreen, Jamie Spears' lawyer at the time, denied this, saying that he loved his daughter “unconditionally” and had only acted in her “best interests.”

While that may have been Jamie’s side of the story, Britney Spears (and just about everyone else) seemed to feel differently. She had often called out her family for what she claimed was unfair treatment, and had been petitioning the courts for years to remove Jamie Spears as conservator. In her court testimony delivered last June, she said that her conservatorship had forced her to take medications and complete rehab programs that she did not want to participate in — not to mention refusing her control over her own body when it came to things like birth control. She testified that she wanted to get married and possibly have another baby, but that her managers did not allow her to do so.

The legal documents recently released by Britney Spears’ representation also speak more to accusations that Jamie bugged his daughter's bedroom:

There have been no official announcements made regarding a potential formal lawsuit being filed against Jamie Spears, but if there is a decent chance Britney Spears would come out the victor, it likely isn't far into the horizon. Fans everywhere have been cheering for nearly a week now after a judge finally lifted the pop star’s restrictive conservatorship formerly headed up by her father. In addition to her leagues of adoring followers, many celebrities took to social media to congratulate Britney Spears on her hard won victory - including none other than longtime fan and fellow Vegas-friendly entertainer Lady Gaga.

She co-founded the Born This Way Foundation some years ago to help destigmatize mental illness in young people, especially for adolescent members of the LGBTQ+ community. The subject of mental health actually played a sizeable role in getting Britney Spears’ conservatorship lifted in the first place. She and her legal team successfully argued that the arrangement had a negative effect on her mental health. When the pop star appeared in court last June, she revealed that her father Jamie Spears had coerced her to participate in various rehab programs and medication regimens. She claimed that she was ‘traumatized’ by the events that had taken place over the 13 years of her conservatorship and that it was essential for her to regain control of her health and her life. 

Now that Britney Spears’ conservatorship is over, however, she’s getting ready to move on: she recently got engaged to her boyfriend Sam Asghari and even revealed on Instagram that she was considering having another baby. Whatever Britney Spears decides, her fans — and Lady Gaga — are excited to see what her future holds.

Several important events have contributed to the conservatorship’s final conclusion. First, in August, the singer was able to replace her court-appointed lawyer with someone she believed would advocate in her interest: Mathew Rosengart, who is now currently working for Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg. From there, gained back personal freedoms like the ability to drive by herself again, and she also proceeded to be more vocal on social media.

But the changing of the legal guard also made major headway concerning the validity of the entire conservatorship. Her father, Jamie Spears, was suspended permanently from his former co-conservator position, after it was alleged by the new counsel that they would be going after him for possibly exhorting his daughter. Just prior to, her dad had actually filed for the conservatorship to end entirely. Framing Britney Spears And Other Documentaries Have Also Shed Light On The Situation

All the major legal developments in the case were first precipitated by several documentaries shedding light on her struggle. The first of which, Framing Britney Spears from the New York Times, presented in February that the Spears family was financially (and therefore unethically) benefiting from the conservatorship. The company followed it up with Controlling Britney Spears in September, which added allegations, such as that the performer's bedroom was bugged by her security team and father. CNN also released a special on the ramifications of the legal battle, while Netflix’s Britney vs Spears suggested that efforts to change the situation were continually thwarted by her father.

Conflicts Within The Spears Family Have Also Resulted From The Conservatorship Battle

The “Oops, I Did It Again” singer is officially free from her conservatorship, but it clearly still had an effect on her familial relationships and likely won't go away anytime soon. On her social media, Britney Spears had previously slammed her family for leaving her “drowning” in the legal situation. Later, her accusations got more pointed, starting first with her sister, Jamie Lynn, and then her mother, the latter of whom she claimed had more of an orchestrating hand in the conservatorship than was previously believed. Lynne Spears has since requested money for legal bills from the conservatorship, which she seemingly won’t be getting now.

Alex M. Weingarten is a litigator, the same designation as Britney Spears’ attorney Mathew Rosengart. It’s difficult to say with certainty what the change in counsel means in terms of Jamie Spears’ intentions, though given his recent setbacks in the case, there's a firm chance he wasn’t happy with his previous legal team. Whether or not this changes things amid his legal battle with his pop star daughter remains to be seen.

As Jamie Spears hires new legal help, Britney is talking to fans about her newfound freedom and the fear that comes along with it. Spears recently noted she’s allowed to drive herself again but has to deal with paparazzi following her around. She's also concerned that they'll potentially try to provoke her into doing something that could possibly make headlines. The singer asked the courts to terminate her conservatorship, which will be addressed during a court date Friday, November 12th. 

As the court date approaches, there’s been no shortage of drama happening outside the courtroom, specifically within the Spears family. In Netflix's Britney vs Spears, one of her old friends claimed they had to call Jamie Spears each and every time she wanted to leave the house, no matter how simple the reason. Likewise on the New York Times' follow-up, Controlling Britney Spears, one former security team member also alleged that they were monitoring her even from her bedroom. With the security level seemingly so intense, it's honestly no wonder Spears says she's afraid of the conservatorship ending:

The former X Factor judge continued in her post that she was going to “do things a little differently from now on,” which apparently means making this a Christmas Halloween, complete with a massive tree in her living room. She also alluded that her family might need help in the future if she ever does an exclusive interview (perceivably one even more candid than her social media posts).

Britney Spears also indicated that her retirement plans are seemingly still in place and that she’s “staying clear of the business.” Hopefully, she'll be allowed to do so and drive her car in peace if the conservatorship does end for good.

Of course, even if the conservatorship ends and Britney Spears finds herself under intense pressures, it's not as if she wouldn't then be able to afford to hire a financial manager that isn't dictated by the court. Not to mention bringing in advisors and assistants for other aspects of her personal and professional life. It might not be easy, but it'll certainly be more freeing than living under a conservatorship for another 13 years.

Just prior, she'd taken a social media break to reportedly celebrate her engagement to Sam Asghari, and her return to Instagram was marked by lots of fan love, a bit of sass, and some NSFW imagery. So one could assume that "worries about taking over a ton of personal responsibilities" aren't on the top of her mind just yet. After all, there are no guarantees that the legal arrangement will be dissolved, but let's just hope she has some kind of a safety net set up just in case.

The tub has a weird curve to it, and Britney Spears figured out that it would likely look to many people as though she’d done some extreme editing to her photos before posting them. But, as she noted with her “Pssss no photo edits … the tub curves” caption, everything in her picture is as it appears in real life. Well, with the exception of those flowers...I guess.

While Spears has been known on social media for her many dance videos over the years, recent months have seen her become more and more open about her life by using the platform. After opening up in court over the summer, for the first time, about her claims of abuse by her dad under the conservatorship, the pop legend has used Instagram to celebrate her wins and share the reality of her life a lot more. This has included her desire to “see herself in a lighter way” by going topless in several posts, but she’s gone a step further here by fully taking it all off.

It seems pretty clear that she’s really enjoying her increased ability to live her life the way she wants, and that’s always a very good thing. Ultimately, Britney Spears does want there to be no official court order lording over all of the details of her life, but, for now, she seems content to have her dad removed from her conservatorship. A judge has officially determined that Jamie Spears will no longer be conservator of his daughter's estate.

Jamie Spears was conservator on Britney Spears' estate for 13 years, and Variety reports that Judge Brenda Penny's ruling means an immediate suspension of her father from her conservatorship, with accountant John Zabel replacing him in control of her estate and financial decisions for the time being. The next steps have yet to be officially determined, so Zabel is a temporary conservator. Britney Spears previously suggested somebody else entirely to take over conservatorship after her father, so perhaps the case could go in that direction next. The attorney for Jamie Spears reportedly objected, calling Zabel a "stranger" on the conservatorship case.

Jodi Montgomery, who has served as conservator of Britney Spears' person and therefore in control of her wellbeing and medical decisions, has not been suspended. Montgomery previously commented on claims regarding Spears' IUD and marriage freedom, with Montgomery denying that anything untoward happened while she was serving as a co-conservator. Whether or not the conservatorship will remain part of Britney Spears' life also has yet to be determined, with Spears' lawyer saying that it could be terminated in this fall within 45 days of the decision to suspend Jamie Spears from involvement.

The official suspension of Jamie Spears and possibility of the conservatorship being terminated in under two months are the biggest developments in the #FreeBritney cause of Britney Spears so far, although the case picked up steam quickly over the past year. What once seemed like a valiant but possibly vain effort from fans to spread awareness about Spears' lack of freedom under her conservatorship changed when Spears was able to hire her own lawyer, and her decision to speak up publicly back in June leveled some shocking claims about what she went through.

Public awareness continued to spread thanks to the releases of documentaries about her situation, although Britney Spears herself hasn't been a big fan of her story being told in such a way. Still, #FreeBritney was trending on Twitter for much of the day when the case was going before a judge to determine whether or not Jamie Spears would be immediately suspended, with fans celebrating Britney's big win after so long. The case isn't fully resolved, and it's possible that the conservatorship will continue with another person simply fulfilling that role.

At the time of writing, Britney Spears has not publicly commented about the big win, but she has used social media to share her reactions over the past year, so perhaps fans will get news from her there. From new attorneys to hard-won (eventual) freedoms, it has since culminated in her dad Jamie Spears agreeing to step down as the conservator of her finances. Spears’ boyfriend-turned-fiancé of 5 years, Sam Asghari, has been by her side throughout it all. But some fans out there have the wild idea that they actually first met many years before that, and Asghari has a rebuttal for anything thinking that's the case.

The theory in question came about from an old video of Britney Spearssigning autographs for young fans. The clip, reportedly from 2000, has been circulating the Internet ethers of late, and shows Spears meeting a young boy who some fans think shares more than a passing resemblance to Sam Asghari. By their estimation, it is potential proof that Asghari was a Britney Spears fan himself way before he was her boyfriend. Check out the video below, but don't get your hopes up.

The probability of 27-year-old Sam Asghari being the young fan on Britney Spears’ knee 21 years ago isn't too likely. Asghari first moved to the United States from Iran when he was 12 years old, and reportedly first met Britney Spears in 2016 on the set of her music video “Slumber Party,” which he was a dancer for. But just in case fans aren’t buying it, Asghari took to his Instagram stories to debunk the theory with some humor of his own:

Sam Asghari has, in fact, weathered many of Britney Spears fans’ speculations and opinions before. For instance, after Britney Spears announced their engagement and promptly deactivated her Instagram account, many fans were questioning if Asghari was the controlling force behind the sudden decision. Spears has since reactivated her social media account, but such questions continue to linger about their relationship. Even actress Octavia Spencer advised Spears to get a prenuptial agreement on Instagram, which has been echoed by her “Free Britney” supporters. To that end, Asghari commented on his stories (via Buzzfeed) that there will be a prenup and it will be “iron clad.”

Despite all the questions and theories, Sam Asghari and Britney Spears have posed a united front for the most part on social media. They do playful challenges together and celebrate each other’s major life events. In court, Spears even made claims that Asghari was just as affected by her conservatorship as she has been, specifically how he wasn't allowed to drive her places and they supposedly weren't allowed to have kids together if they wanted.

Things are changing, though, in the life and conservatorship of Britney Spears. Her father has called for the courts to reconsider the conservatorship’s validity, and once those proceedings are all said and done, Spears would finally be personally back in charge of her health and finances for the first time since 2008.

Now, though, it's being alleged that the star wants one of her conservators to stay on indefinitely.

According to a new report from TMZ, while Britney Spears is still very eager to have her dad out of the conservatorship and to get the whole arrangement ended as soon as possible, there is one aspect of it that she would like to keep around. That would be the assistance of her current conservator of the person, Jodi Montgomery, who took on the role in September 2019. Allegedly, Spears would like Montgomery to continue working for her indefinitely, even after the conservatorship officially ends, whenever that may be.

It's being said that Spears has already informed multiple people in her inner circle that she's spoken with Montgomery about staying on her team for the long haul, without any conservatorship in play. She would like Montgomery to do things such as make appointments for her, deal with her doctors, make sure she continues to take the correct regimen of her medications, set up recreational outings, have meals and / or personal chefs commissioned, and organize Spears' household staff, and perform other duties, many of which are things she already does for the pop star.

Apparently, Spears has told everyone that Montgomery did agree to stay on when the conservatorship ends.

The most recent developments in Britney Spears fight to get out of the conservatorship have surprised many. While Jamie Spears did finally agree to step down back in mid-August, he also noted that he would only do it "when the time is right," and added that he felt it was "highly debatable whether a change in conservator" was actually the right thing for his daughter. In early September, the superstar filed papers with the court stating that her dad was trying to extort her, by demanding almost $2 million as a “quid pro quo” to leave the conservatorship.

Then, just earlier this week, Jamie Spears filed a petition asking that the whole conservatorship be scrapped, something his daughter has wanted for a long time and he has been against. His filing said that "circumstances" which led to the agreement in the first place may "have changed to such an extent that grounds for establishment of a conservatorship may no longer exist," and added that the elder Spears "wants is what is best for his daughter." Spears also asked that the conservatorship end without the need for his daughter to undergo a mental evaluation.

Even though Jamie Spears is expected to step down from his role as the conservator who handles all of his daughter's finances at the next court hearing on September 29, there could still be a tough legal road ahead for the singer. Her attorney has vowed that they will continue their "investigation into financial mismanagement and other issues," which will likely take a while and keep her embroiled in legal trouble with her dad. Plus, she and her lawyer have yet to file their own petition to end the conservatorship, which appears to be a necessary step in wrapping it up completely.

Spears seems to be very close to getting her wish of having the conservatorship end, but there's quite a road ahead. So, while it might appear odd for her to want to keep Jodi Montgomery on even after the conservatorship, it has become pretty clear that the pop icon trusts Montgomery, and probably feels like she could use her in her corner as she continues the fight to uncover all of the alleged wrongs done in the past 13 years.

It's been quite a year for Britney Spears. A fan-led “Free Britney” movement, and a documentary on Hulu exposing the pop singer’s controversial conservatorship, eventually found a legal foothold. Spears brought allegations to court that she suffered abuse at the hands of the arrangement, which seemed manifest a wave of changes to take place. The greatest of which – following a lot of backlash and fellow celebrities also coming forward to support – was her father Jamie petitioning to end the conservatorship altogether. If you think that's the end of their drama, though, you'd be mistaken – because Britney Spears’ attorney promises that the fight will probably continue.

The battle over the conservatorship has been ping ponging back and forth between Britney Spears and her legal team and her father and his legal team for some time now. Mostly, they have contested the other’s version of events concerning who is or isn’t at fault. But her father has apparently now believes the conservatorship should end, stating in his petition to do so that the “grounds” for it “may no longer exist.” Yet in a statement to Fox News, Britney Spears’ lawyer Mathew Rosengart responded:

Prior to his recent petition to end the conservatorship over Britney Spears entirely, Jamie Spears had announced that he was stepping down as conservator over his daughter's finances and that a new one would be vetted to take his place. Apparently, though, he wanted a “quid pro quo” in the amount of $2 million for doing so, to which Britney Spears' legal team condemned as extortion at the time. It appears that even if the conservatorship were to be terminated, Britney Spears will still endeavor to have her father investigated for the matter and other supposed instances of conservatorship abuse.

Most of Britney Spears’ grievances have pertained to her father’s management of the conservatorship. Namely, she shared that she wasn't allowed to drive herself and that she was forced to work to the point of exhaustion over the years. It got even more complicated when it was revealed that most of her family are on her payroll through the conservatorship. Notably, her father was reportedly making $16,000 per month, an added $2,000 per month for office rental and 1.5% of gross revenue through business deals.

Nonetheless, the saga of the conservatorship might be on its final legs. But it's evident that the saga of Britney Spears and Jamie Spears’s relationship isn't quite over yet.

After about a year of very dedicated campaigning on the part of embattled pop superstar Britney Spears to either remove her father, Jamie Spears, from her 13-year conservatorship, or end the agreement all together, there has now been a surprising new development. The elder Spears, who has been in control of all or part of the conservatorship for the entire time, has now filed a petition to end it.

According to CNN, which obtained the court documents filed by Jamie Spears, Tuesday saw the singer's father file a petition asking for Britney Spears' conservatorship to be terminated. His filing states, in part:

As anyone who pays attention to celebrity legal matters will likely know, Britney Spears has made several pleas to the court in an attempt to change who controls her conservatorship, but to no avail. Her dad has been in charge of her finances as conservator of her estate for the entire term of the agreement, with him also being conservator of her person for a time, until he stepped away to deal with his own health issues in 2019. This is when Jodi Montgomery was assigned as temporary conservator of Spears' person, and what seems to have set her off on a path to have her dad totally removed from her case.

The tide finally began to turn Spears' way over this summer, when, after over a decade of not speaking about the conservatorship, she finally opened up in court, and detailed several alleged abuses by her father. That testimony, where Spears said that the arrangement was akin to "sex trafficking" made a lot more people take notice, including the court that oversees her case. It wasn't long after that she began to be granted more freedoms, such as the ability to drive again, and gaining control over her Instagram account.

Spears also began speaking out more, in general, and had several thinly veiled social media confrontations with her younger sister, Jamie Lynn Spears, as well as deciding to call out the “people closest” to her for only publicly supporting her bid to end or change the conservatorship once she made her shocking statement in court. There have also been a lot of new court filings and/or in-fighting between members of Spears' family, as well as co-conservators Jamie Spears and Jodi Montgomery.

This led to Britney Spears petitioning (again) to suspend her father from her conservatorship, and him agreeing to step down "when the time is right," in mid-August, though his filing on the matter at the time also stated that "it is highly debatable whether a change in conservator at this time would be in Ms. Spears’ best interest." Now, it appears that the older Spears is tired of fighting, as his new filing to end the conservatorship also noted:

The uncomfortable legal battle being waged between pop icon Britney Spears and her father, Jamie Spears, has taken yet another turn. Fans around the globe have been tuned into the singer’s efforts to free herself from a conservatorship, which gives her father the legal rights to control Britney’s personal, economic, and legal decision-making. Spears has existed under this conservatorship for 13 years, triggering the recent fan campaigns to “Free Britney.” Now, Spears is filing more legal paperwork against her father, this time claiming extortion.

In new paperwork filed by her attorneys on Monday, Britney Spears is claiming that her father, Jamie, is demanding near $2 million as a “quid pro quo” for agreeing to exit the conservatorship, which he did last month. According to a statement obtained by the NY Post, Britney’s lawyer, Mathew Rosengart, said:

Now it appears that in order to obtain that “orderly transition,” he needs $2 million from his famous daughter to pay for his legal fees.

Britney Spears has been fighting against the restrictions of the conservatorship, even letting it be known that she was forced to take medications, birth control pills, and to perform because her father demanded it. Perhaps leaning into the guilt of the situation, but also appealing to Jamie’s fatherly instincts, Britney’s lawyer concluded this new statement with the following:

Decency has been a little hard to come by as this court case has grown more and more unwieldy. When Jamie agreed to step down from the conservatorship, Britney’s mother (and Jamie’s ex-wife), Lynne, submitted a sworn statement to the L.A. courts stating that Jamie does not, and can not, put the best interests of their daughter ahead of his own. That provoked Jamie to fire back and Lynne, claiming that she benefits from Britney’s pop-star fortune as much as anyone. Britney, in the meantime, is “celebrating” her pending freedom with topless Instagram pictures, and this TikTok video that claims she “may dance in my living room now but I sure as hell know who I am.”

But in another strange turn of events, their replacement conservator choice was apparently denied the role for his own mother in the past.

Britney Spears’ legal team officially requested that Jason Rubin, an accountant based in California, replace Jamie Spears as conservator over her estate. However, Page Six reports that Rubin had filed for a similar role as temporary guardian over his mother's person and estate in 2020. In the court documents they obtained, Rubin claimed that she was suffering from “delusions” and a mental health decline. Ultimately, the court denied his petition because the physician he chose to evaluate her, Dr. Gregory Brown, supposedly never did an in-person examination. The documents also noted:

The documents indicated that Jason Rubin could refile his petition regarding his mother, albeit with a new physician’s certificate. Despite the loss, though, Rubin supposedly has extensive experience in the world of conservatorships. On LinkedIn, he states that his company, Certified Strategies Inc., has been “entrusted to administer over $250 million of assets.”

The estate of Britney Spears itself is extremely lucrative. According to court documents by Newsweek, she has $2.7 million in liquid assets and $56.3 million in investments and real estate, which has been managed by her dad Jamie Spears so far. When he announced that he was stepping down from his conservator role, he clearly noted that there would be a transition period until such time they could agree upon a suitable replacement. It's possible that Jason Rubin’s nomination for the role could be complicated by his failed guardianship petition over his mother.

In the interim, Britney Spears has been making the most of her newfound "freedom." Though her conservatorship is still in place, she has been allowed to drive her car once again and has been more outspoken on social media. The latter of which has ignited a bit of a feud with younger sister Jamie Lynn Spears.

It is unclear at this time if Britney Spears’s conservatorship will, in fact, be removed entirely, as her legal counsel has stated profusely. Of late, Spears has been embroiled in some drama involving her pets. According to the New York Daily News, the Ventura County Sheriff Office confirmed that they are investigating Spears allegedly striking a housekeeper’s phone out of her hands after the woman reportedly had her dogs taken away for neglect.

As can be seen, conservatorships are complex matters. They juggle the needs for safety, as well as for free will and autonomy. In the case of Britney Spears, we can only wait to see if there is a solution that finds the necessary middle ground.

Spears is celebrating her freedom in the long-coveted form of driving herself after her conservatorship allowed her to drive freely again. Now, the singer has been spotted driving her Mercedes-Benz near her home in Thousand Oaks, California, per The Daily Mail.

Britney Spears had, in fact, lamented previously how neither she nor her boyfriend were allowed to drive her, per the conservatorship’s (i.e. her father’s) rules. After switching lawyers, though, the court finally lifted the restriction a few weeks ago.

The family dynamics at play within Britney Spears’s conservatorship have played out fairly publicly in recent weeks. Many in her family were making serious bank on her payroll. Moreover, after her mom Lynne Spears came forward in support of Jamie stepping down, he in turn claimed the mother/daughter have an “estranged” relationship that she financially benefits from. (Things have also appeared rather estranged between Britney and her sister Jamie Lynn.)

The changes being made to Britney Spears’s conservatorship are rolling in rather quickly. It only took 13 years and a “Free Britney” movement to see the dial move. Her fans are still hoping to have the conservatorship removed entirely. Judging by Jamie Spears’ statement that his stepping down is predicated on finding a new replacement, it is unclear if that goal will be fully achieved.

While things are, certainly, moving ahead in Britney Spears' fight to end her conservatorship after 13 years, it's starting to become very clear that this process will be even more difficult than anyone may have thought. The pop singer's father, Jamie Spears, has agreed to step down from controlling all of her financial matters, but he's not going quietly. He's now filed a court document that directly fires shots at Britney Spears' mother, Lynne Spears.

Shortly after responding to the younger Spears petition for his suspension and removal from her conservatorship by saying he is "willing to step down when the time is right" in order to stop the "public battle with his daughter," Jamie Spears filed court papers of his own (via Insider), which take direct issue with his ex-wife, Lynne Spears. The superstar's mom submitted a sworn statement to the Los Angeles court on July 26 that offered complete support to her daughter in her efforts to have her ex-husband removed from her case. But, that statement also made several allegations against him, including that he "is incapable of putting my daughter's interests ahead of his own on both a professional and a personal level."

Jamie Spears has now responded to that claim by saying, in part:

One of the big questions people have had about Britney Spears' conservatorship since the singer spoke out in court and made some shocking claims about the abuses she feels she's suffered at her father's hands while under it, is who in her family knew what was going on and whether or not they were directly benefitting from her conservatorship. A report in early July did note that Lynne Spears and Britney's brother, Bryan, got payments from the conservatorship, but how much was unknown. It seems now that these payments for Lynne's home are likely at least a part of that.

Around the middle of July, after her statement to the court sent shockwaves through the Free Britney movement and her fandom in general, Britney Spears took to social media to speak against the “people closest” to her, as well as those she “loves the most,” and noted that she believes they left her “drowning." She also said that the statements from her family that came out after her court appearance, which offered unwavering support in her battle to have Jamie Spears removed, were only to "save face" in the public eye.

Another person who came out to support Britney publicly was her younger sister, Jamie Lynn Spears. But, fans quickly took issue with some of her statements (including her saying that she didn't currently claim as her own or use any property paid for by Britney), as did her Grammy-winning sister, which led to both a social media war of words between the siblings, and to Jamie Lynn editing several of her Instagram posts after being called out for them. Meanwhile, it appears that their mother, Lynne Spears, has also been profiting from the conservatorship for many years.

While there's no way to know if this fractured family will ever recover from all of this, we can at least hope that Britney Spears can see the best outcome with her legal case sooner rather than later.

On the other hand, Britney Spears’ attorney Matthew Rosengard called the development “vindication for Britney.” He also shared some disappointment over the “shameful and reprehensible attacks on Ms. Spears and others" and spoke to the continued effort to investigate the 13-year situation. Back in July, Britney Spears publicly challenged he father’s legal guardianship by sharing her troubling experiences over the years, likening it to sex trafficking.

The conservatorship was put in place back in 2008 following the pop stars public breakdowns including that time she shaved her head and hit the car of paparazzi with an umbrella. Although a legal guardianship is usually granted to people with severe mental disabilities or dementia, Britney Spears’ conservatorship was an unusual court decision put into place according to law experts. It offered her father control of her estate and health and as Spears has alleged, she has since lost a say in her schedule, been forced to work seven days a week and even been denied access to her kids and other close people in her life.

The decision shows Britney Spears’ case is skewing in her favor, but Jamie Spears and his representation still wish for the pop star to have a conservatorship. Back in July, Britney’s lawyer filed a petition that shared hopes for Jason Rubin, a certified public accountant, to be her sole conservator instead. Spears’ finances reportedly are valued at over $50 million, which the singer believes was exploited for his own personal gain by Jamie Spears under her conservatorship.

Over the past few weeks, we’ve talked a lot about Britney Spears, the ‘Free Britney’ movement and the pop singer’s attempts to change the nature of the conservatorship led by Jamie Spears and Jodi Montgomery. What hasn’t come up quite as much is the person at the heart of the case, Judge Brenda Penny, who is the judge ultimately weighing in on the singer’s future. However, the judge recently incurred fan ire after declining a petition Ms. Spears’ lawyer had filed. In fact, she’s now dealing with death threats online.

A short while ago, the singer’s lawyer Matthew Rosengart filed a request asking the judge to consider taking Jamie Spears off of Britney Spears’ conservatorship ASAP. A few days ago, the judge denied the request to hear the petition early, though the singer’s legal team will still have a chance to argue its thoughts on September 29th, which was the original date for the hearing.

It’s a minor setback for the “Toxic” singer after having earned back some freedoms, including driving and being able to hire her own lawyer. However, to some of her fanbase, the situation is more dire and TMZ reports that the L.A. County Sheriff's Dept. has had to start following and keeping tabs on online activity over the situation as some social media users have grown threatening online. Some of these tweets that have gotten traction have simply been critical of the judge.

Others, however that have gotten less traction (but still seem to be fairly prevalent online) have been a bit more insidious, wishing death to people involved with Britney Spears’ conservatorship. One tweet alluded to a "mysterious" death for Judge Brenda Penny. Another lumped the judge in with other enemies of the "Free Britney" movement, noting, "I would like to wish Jamie Spears, Brenda Penny, Sam Ingram, and Lou Taylor a very SLOW AND PAINFUL DEATH."

It’s these comments and others that seemingly have the police on alert, though none have reached a “level of criminality” at this point, according to the outlet’s conversation with the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department. The situation is currently being monitored.

While her fans seem to be pushing harder on social media, Ms. Spears has herself said that she will be cutting back on social media (though she posted once since then). She noted that having a platform like Instagram gave her a voice after feeling “hopeless for so long,” but that for now, while she’s a big topic of conversation, she’s going to cut back. The singer was also recently involved in a bit of a social media feud with her sister Jamie Lynn Spears, which may have played into her decision as well. We’ll have to wait and see if that changes once the September 29th court date plays out. People may not be happy about Judge Brenda Penny’s decision, but it’s not like the case is over for Spears or her legal team.

Yesterday, news broke that Spears’ new lawyer Mathew Rosengart had attempted to move up a hearing in the hopes of getting the singer’s father removed from the conservatorship that he’s helped to manage over the years. Per reports, however, Rosengart was unsuccessful in moving up the date of the hearing after a judge, Los Angeles Superior Judge Brenda Penny, heard his comments. The date to discuss the singer’s conservatorship will still fall on September 29th, per NBC News.

Then, in a post, Britney Spears showed an avocado-slicing technique that deeply impressed the “Toxic” singer. She also addressed “feeling hopeless for so long” and told her fans that she will be doing less publicly on the platform. She noted “I’m gonna post a little less from now on,” also paraphrasing Selena Gomez in her post.

Meanwhile, while Britney may be on a break from her Instagram, there has been back and forth between Britney Spears’ counsel and her conservatorship, including comments from her father and Jodi Montgomery. On Spears' side of things, Matthew Rosengart has contended, “[She] continues to suffer ongoing harm each day that Mr. Spears remains in place as the Conservator of the Estate — emotionally, psychologically, and financially.” On the conservatorship’s side, both Montgomery and Jamie Spears have claimed they are concerned over her current mental health state, though apparently Britney’s dad has been making comments about putting the singer on an “involuntary 5150 hold,” which Montgomery disagrees with.

In the midst of all of this, Ms. Spears has been creating a wealth of social media videos, some of which have casually addressed the “Free Britney” movement and have mentioned what has been going on in her personal life.

While there has been a setback in Mathew Rosengart’s case to have Jamie Spears removed from the conservatorship, Rosengart is still pursuing that possibility for Britney Spears. Last month he filed a petition to have Spears removed from controlling his daughter and her assets. Jodi Montgomery even offered a statement as part of that filing, noting:

Of course, Jodi Montgomery's role in the conservatorship has also come into question. We’ll have to wait and see if Jamie Spears is ultimately removed during the September hearing. In the meantime, we’ll also have to see if the singer herself holds off from posting completely on social media in the interim or if she simply cuts back. If the former, I think I’m certainly going to miss her free-spirited dance videos.

The ongoing battle between Britney Spears, her father Jamie Spears, and his control over her conservatorship has been an even bigger topic of public conversation for several months now. Two days after Britney Spears' new attorney, Mathew Rosengart, filed to suspend Jamie Spears from his daughter's conservatorship and have him permanently removed from his duties there, the lawyer for Jodi Montgomery, who acts as the conservator of Spears' person (and works with her and her doctors on Spears day-to-day well being and health) filed new legal documents which say that Montgomery also would like the senior Spears taken off of the conservatorship, with the filing noting, in part:

While there, apparently, has not been any legal document filed yet which confirms this position on the part of Britney Spears' doctors, as one might imagine, should the claim made in Jodi Montgomery's filing be accurate, it could have a major impact on the judge who is overseeing the case. If it's decided that Spears' medical team truly believes that Jamie Spears being involved in the conservatorship is actually hurting the star, such statements would be taken quite seriously when deciding whether or not he should remain as conservator of her estate.

Britney Spears has been attempting to have her dad taken off of her case for about a year now. But, with her opening up in late June and comparing the conservatorship, under her father's lead, to "sex trafficking," the potential for Spears to finally be free of her dad's control and the conservatorship as a whole has never been greater.

And, the international pop icon (who may now be officially retired) doesn't seem to plan to stop speaking her mind any time soon. She and her younger sister, Jamie Lynn Spears, have been engaged in a war of words on social media, and the songstress also called out the "people closest" to her for leaving her "drowning" under her father's allegedly oppressive rule.

Spears and her revised legal team have their sights set on securing a new co-conservator, and it appears everyone involved already has a choice for Jamie Spears’ replacement.

Britney Spears’ lawyer Mathew Rosengart filed a motion on July 26 to begin the process of removing Jamie Spears from the conservatorship, according to NBC News. In the same motion, Rosengart moved to replace Jamie Spears with the forensic accountant and estate planner Jason Rubin, and the younger Spears’ lawyer also praised Rubin for his lengthy financial career by calling him “a highly qualified, professional fiduciary.” The attorney and his firm mentioned in the same court filings that their attempt to appoint the financial expert doesn’t mean the Grammy winner is done pursuing an official end to her 13-year conservatorship.

This latest development isn’t a surprising move in the ongoing case, since it has been attempted before. But with Jason Rubin being brought in as a suggested replacement for Jamie Spears, many may wonder who Rubin is, and why Britney Spears wants him taking charge of her finances? According to Us Weekly, Rubin is an expert when it comes to financial decisions in conservatorships. He graduated from California State University with a bachelor’s degree in accounting. Along with his firm Certified Strategies Inc., Rubin has governed over hundreds of millions of dollars in assets across multiple trusts, conservatorships and estate cases. The firm’s efforts are backed by California as a Licensed Professional Fiduciary.

In addition to overseeing conservatorships, Jason Rubin has a background in forensic accounting, lending his expertise and support in litigation going back to the 1990s. Rubin has been specializing in estate planning since 2014. Rubin’s background certainly seems to make him a highly qualified choice for Britney Spears’ financial well-being. And it only helps that he's not a family member with that kind of vested interest in her dollar signs.

The idea of Jason Rubin replacing Jamie Spears is backed not only by Britney Spears’ legal team, but also her mother Lynne Spears and co-conservator Jodi Montgomery. Both women testified on July 22 that the older Spears’ removal is important to the younger Spears’ mental health. Their words weren’t far off from Britney Spears’ own testimony on June 23, where she equated her conservatorship to sex trafficking. The attempt to add Jason Rubin as head of the conservatorship is the latest development in Britney Spears’ court battle.

The court ruled that Britney Spears could begin driving again after having the right stripped away in a court decision in 2013, and Spears was later spotted driving around Los Angeles with her boyfriend. That decision came on the heels of Spears calling out those close to her for not having shown such widespread support for her during the early years of her conservatorship battle. This led to her lawyer calling Spears and her fans a source of courage during the legal battle. All these developments would seem to point toward Spears getting closer to ending her conservatorship sooner rather than later, so hopefully everything will work out accordingly for everyone involved.

Britney Spears’ quest to remove her father, Jamie Spears, from her conservatorship has been a long-drawn-out process, but it seems that things are moving in the right direction for the singer. The statements from Mathew Rosengart (Britney Spears' lawyer) came courtesy of an NBC News' Alicia Victoria Lozano (via Twitter). News outlets were outside of a Los Angeles courtroom awaiting a decision on whether the conservatorship will cover security costs for Jodi Montgomery (conservator of Spears' personal matters). It was ultimately revealed that no decision had been made, though Rosengart take some time to speak with the press outside of the courthouse. He praised his client, saying:

Mathew Rosengart's comments are likely aimed at Britney Spears' powerful statement, which the pop star gave in court nearly a month ago. With this, the lawyer speaks to Spears' drive to regain control of her life. It definitely appears that the entertainer's legal team now contains a drive that also permeates her passionate fanbase.

Speaking of which, Mathew Rosengart took the time to shout out Spears’ avid fanbase for encouraging him and the popstar in her legal battle. Rosengart said about receiving love and support from the #FreeBritney movement:

Mathew Rosengart seemed to paint a more positive picture of the relationship between his firm and the fans compared to that of Jamie Spears. Since the #FreeBritney movement began pushing for Spears’ removal, the two sides have gone back and forth. The fans feel the older Spears has controlled his daughter’s life from every angle. But his lawyer countered that the Britney Army’s view of her father is inaccurate. But the younger Spears’ aforementioned testament appeared to counter that narrative.

And Britney Spears’ lawyer wasn’t done speaking on the ongoing case. While Mathew Rosengart was encouraged by the pop superstar and her fans, he also took the time to thank the presiding judge Brenda Penny for her cooperation. Based on the video, Rosengart appears to want fans and the public at large to know that he and his firm are working in Britney Spears’ best interest. And based on Spears’ response to his appointment after her court-appointed lawyer resigned, she really appears to have plenty of faith in him and his firm. And the fans seem to have the same amount of confidence in Rosengart's abilities.

Taking to Instagram, Britney Spears noted she feels “GRATITUDE and BLESSED.” She also thanked her fanbase and those involved in the “Free Britney” movement, a movement that had a watershed moment when the documentary Framing Britney Spears came out earlier in 2021, leaving questions and answering others related to the famous pop star.

Since then, Britney Spears has taken measures to regain some control in her life. She recently spoke out in court, saying the conservatorship has been restrictive on her life and even alleged that she had been forced to use an IUD that kept her from having more kids, despite her wishes. Fans have been clamoring to “Free Britney” for months now. The movement has grown so widespread, the fanbase has even looked to other major stars like Kim Kardashian to weigh in. At the time of this writing, the two have been fighting in the courts of expenses related to Britney Spears’ ongoing conservatorship.

Now, however, following the July 14 hearing in which Brtiney Spears was approved to hire her own lawyer, she’s already moving forward. Spears has hired lawyer to the stars Mathew Rosengart and the lawyer has already said he will be filing paperwork to end the conservatorship that has bound Britney Spears since 2008. He has already requested, per Deadline, that Jamie Spears step down as Ms. Spears’ co-conservator, though Jamie’s own lawyer did not agree.

Days after shocking the world by sharing her own intense feelings about the conservatorship that led to the Free Britney movement in recent years, news is coming down the pipeline that Ms. Spears has decided to retire. This is coming from her manager -- now ex manager -- Larry Rudolph, who resigned from the position on Sunday night. The reason? Britney Spears no longer has skin in the music game.

In a letter that was sent to Britney Spears’ conservator Jodi Montgomery and her now-infamous father Jamie Spears, Larry Rudolph revealed that he was actually hired by Britney and not the conservatorship and that he was there to assist Britney. If she no longer plans to to tour or have a music career, the gist seems to be that his services are no longer needed, as evidenced by a portion of the letter he sent (via TMZ):

If you are someone working in the entertainment industry, 2 ½ years is a long time to go without communication with your manager. In fact, however, it has been a long time since Britney Spears actually performed. The “Hold It Against Me” singer had a very lucrative Las Vegas residency for a long period in the 2010s, performing from 2013 to 2017 at the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino. After that stint ended, she had a few performances in 2018 as part of Dick Clark’s New Year's Rockin’ Eve and at the United States Grand Prix. Then her tour slate went blank.

That's seemingly a long period of time to go without planning for a new tour or new content. Of course, it's worth pointing out that the year 2020 was a wash for a lot of people in the entertainment sector. For Britney Spears, though, it seems like it gave her a chance to regroup and reevaluate her life (as well as bring her fans lots of energetic dance videos).

Then, it was in February of 2021 that Hulu and FX dropped Framing Britney Spears, a documentary that explored Spears' life, including her rise to fame and her 2007 breakdown. The fans rallied around her after the documentary premiered and even other celebrities, including the likes of Bella Thorne and Justin Timberlake weighed in. (Jessica Simpson famously refused to watch.) The documentary made waves with the public and with Britney Spears' fanbase, and led to Spears speaking to a judge directly about her conservatorship in court.

Now, it seems Britney Spears is taking what control she can over her life and career even with the conservatorship still in place, and that means retirement. According to Larry Rudolph's official letter of resignation, he wishes the pop star nothing but the best in her future endeavors.

Previously, the rumor mill had indicated that Britney Spears was unhappy with the possibility of going on a European tour, though some sources connected to Ms. Spears and her conservatorship had said the opposite. Right now, no official tour is in the cards. If Spears has decided to retire, we wish her only the best in whatever comes next.

Now that everyone finally knows how Britney Spears actually feels about her conservatorship and what it's been like living under it for 13 years, the in-fighting and laying-of-blame has begun among those involved in running the Spears conservatorship. Now, after her father, Jamie Spears, accused co-conservator Jodi Montgomery of being to blame for Spears not being able to marry or have her IUD removed, Montgomery has responded to his claims.

It was just about a week ago that Britney Spears made a testimony in open court, finally speaking up about her allegations of rampant abuse by her dad and those he's appointed to care for her during his many years as one of her co-conservators. Her claims shocked many, and included the assertion that Spears has wanted to marry her boyfriend, Sam Asghari, and begin a family with him, but that she hasn't been allowed to either marry or have her IUD removed so that she could try to get pregnant.

According to Page Six, after Spears' many bombshells dropped, the elder Spears filed court documents which allege that Jodi Montgomery, the care manager who was assigned to temporarily take over as the conservator of Britney Spears' person (meaning that she's in charge of Spears' daily care and medical treatment), is to blame for the terrible treatment that the pop superstar claimed she'd undergone during her conservatorship. Now, Montgomery's attorney, LaurieAnn Wright, has responded with a statement issued to the outlet, and it notes, in part:

While it's hard for anyone not involved in the case of Britney Spears' conservatorship to truly know what's going on behind the scenes, Jodi Montgomery's lawyer is clearly stating that none of the blame for Spears feeling like she's enduring a situation close to "sex trafficking" is on Montgomery or the work she's done as conservator of Spears' person. Two things are probably worth noting in this regard, and the first of those is that Spears' herself called out her father and his behavior while running her conservatorship. She even went on record and said that she believed Jamie Spears "loved the control to hurt his own daughter 100,000%."

Secondly, it may also be worth noting that during the past year, as Britney Spears has steadily attempted to have her father removed from her consrvatorship, she petitioned the court to have Jodi Montgomery installed as her new conservator permanently, but her petition was denied. So, it would seem that once Montgomery was put in charge on a temporary basis (which happened in September 2019), that it helped Spears to see where her father was going wrong, and led to the singer having even more faith in Montgomery's ability to help her live the life she wants to, at least compared with her father.

As Jamie Spears is still in control of his daughter's money and financial decisions, the statement from Montgomery's attorney went on to point out something else:

It sounds a lot like this is Mongomery throwing the blame ball right back into Jamie Spears court, as she seems to be saying that, because doctor's appointments and weddings do cost at least some money, she potentially has requested that Spears be able to marry and have her IUD removed, but that the elder Spears may have shot down those requests.

In the statement (via Variety), Spears details the strain she was under after being "forced to do" her 2018 tour and wasn't given time to take a break before starting a new show in Las Vegas. She was later put on lithium "out of nowhere," which is a "very, very strong" medication compared to what she was used to, and she "felt drunk" on it. Then, Spears stated her father sent her to a "small rehab program" that would cost $60,000 per month, leaving her crying for an hour while her dad "loved every minute of it." Spears continued:

During this time of Britney Spears' conservatorship, her experiences led to the comparison to "sex trafficking," as she was denied means and possessions while still working seven days per week. The pop star elaborated on her heartbreaking situation at the time:

Although Britney Spears' posts on Instagram have led fans to feel concern for her situation from time to time, her public appearances over the past few years never gave away everything she was feeling or what she went through in being denied access to her loved ones. Pop superstar Britney Spears has been back in court over concerns about the conservatorship she was placed under way back in 2008. The singer is now dealing with some issues she's having with her father, Jamie Spears, over his desire to put someone back in charge of the agreement whom his famous daughter believes to be "uniquely unsuitable" for the job. And, some of this trouble has come about because the younger Spears now admits that she's not looking to perform any time soon.

Here's what's going on. If you've been following Britney Spears and all of her conservatorship drama over the years, you'll know that basically every aspect of her life had to be signed off on by her dad before she was allowed to do much of anything of note, while all of her purchases were tracked. Jamie Spears has been conservator of her person since the conservatorship began, while attorney Andrew M. Wallet was co-conservator and controlled her finances. But, Wallet resigned in March of 2019, leaving the elder Spears with full control over his daughter's life decisions and estate until he also stepped down due to health reasons last September.

Spears has been trying to get her father removed from her conservatorship since August, when she had to go back to court to discuss who would be in charge after the temporary conservator who was appointed in place of her dad, Jodi Montgomery, was set to go back to simply being her longtime care manager. In new court documents obtained by Entertainment Tonight, Spears has revealed that one of the reasons she does not want Wallet to return to his position as co-conservator, is because she has no plans to perform right now, and would like to save some money, because Wallet's services are just too expensive.

Apparently, Jamie Spears' request that Wallet be put back into his former position was due to his daughter saying she didn't want to perform, which "will require him to undertake drastic changes to her budget" that Spears seemingly felt he couldn't undertake on his own. According to TMZ, the documents also state that Wallet made almost $500,000 dollars a year for the last five years he acted as co-conservator, which includes a $100,000 payout early last year when he quit.

The other reason Britney Spears is unhappy with her father's choice of co-conservator would appear to be how Wallet handled her case previously, as the court documents filed by her lawyer also state:

It was also back in August that Britney Spears asked the court to permanently appoint Montgomery as the conservator of her person, but her concerns went unaddressed. Now, Spears is also asking that, instead of Wallet, a "a corporate fiduciary who can offer both a physical office and a team of independent financial professionals rather than a single individual, hand-picked by her father, who is a complete stranger to her," to handle all of her money matters. She's already asked that the Bessemer Trust Company of California be given the duty, which is a move that her mother, Lynn Spears, agrees with.

Man, this is such a tricky situation.
