Shrinking Season 3 is currently in production, and the stars have been hinting at what’s to come as we wait to learn more about some exciting cast announcements. For example, along with Michael J. Fox joining the Apple TV+ comedy, Jeff Daniels has been added to the cast to play Jason Segel’s on-screen dad. Now, the Jimmy actor has opened up about why casting the Dumb and Dumber star in this role was “perfect.”

While we still have tons of questions about Season 3 regarding who Fox will play, if Cobie Smulders will come back, and the impact Daniels’ character will make, Segel opened up a bit about what’s to come. Speaking with Variety about all three topics, I was particularly interested in the How I Met Your Mother star’s comments about the actor playing Jimmy’s dad, as he said:

This quote tells me two reasons why Daniels was “perfect casting” here.

First of all, there’s no denying that fact that him and Segel do resemble each other. They’re both tall guys who have a similar energy, and now that I know they also share mannerisms, I can’t picture anyone better to play Jimmy’s dad.

Along with that, the Shrinking co-creator revealed a bit about his character’s relationship with his father, which I think Daniels will play really well.

One of Shrinking’s biggest strengths is its ability to balance comedy and drama. Jason Segel is particularly good at juggling the two tones, and I have a feeling Daniels will be too, which will serve their story well.

Based on The Muppets star’s comments, this “complicated” relationship Jimmy has with his father could be the cause of major drama. The fact that he searches for validation through Paul tells me that Segel’s character might not have received that kind of support from his own dad. Therefore, it seems like we could see their potentially fraught relationship on screen, which means both men’s dramatic chops will be on display.

However, let us not forget, Shrinking is a comedy. It’s really funny, and even if Jimmy and his dad have a complicated relationship, I’m positive there will be lots of room for jokes.

And we know Jeff Daniels can pull off both tones immaculately. From his comedic roles in films like Dumb and Dumber to his more dramatic parts in shows like The Newsroom, he’s proven his range over and over again, and I think it’s safe to say he’s a perfect fit for Shrinking.

So, between Daniels and Segel sharing looks and mannerisms alongside their shared skills as performers, I think they’ll make an excellent father-son duo, and I can’t wait to see them share the screen in this upcoming Apple TV+ show.

Saturday Night Live, now in its 50th season, has featured many public figures, including Jeff Daniels. While the Dumb and Dumber star has only hosted twice, he recalls a specific moment between him and showrunner Lorne Michaels from decades ago. Michaels had a vision and asked Daniels to deliver, which he did. The story highlights Michaels’ decisive nature and part of why the show has lasted long enough to hit the 50-year mark.

SNL paraded through our 2024 TV schedule with incredible hosts, fun musical acts, and some viral sketches (and continues into our 2025 TV schedule). The show has brought undeniable success to its cast members while boosting both hosts' and musical acts’ careers. Still, some of the BTS stories are surprising, especially concerning Michaels. Jeff Daniels’ Audible Original ‘Alive and Well Enough Continues,’ showcases a moment of the head honcho getting what he wants.

The memoirist and actor revealed that during his second time hosting, they needed someone to play Jay Leno to play opposite Dana Carvey’s Johnny Carson. Ultimately, the job was assigned to Daniels by Michaels, even though he couldn’t do an impersonation at the time. The A Man in Full actor jumped right into practice, after having received a tape of Leno interviewing his first guest, Valleri Bertinelli.

As much as the two-time Emmy Award winner tried to find the then-Tonight Show host’s voice, he had a lot of difficulty. The Newsroom alum noted how peculiar it was for him to mimic Leno’s voice, saying it was a "key unknown to those who studied music theory." Fortunately for Daniels, the VHS tape of Leno and Bertinelli’s response to what she'd gifted to her husband – a Lamborghini – proved incredibly useful to his impersonation of the comedian.

The way the talk show host pronounced the luxury car name was the path he needed. Daniels’ episode does also include his impression, and the funnyman delivered his promise to Michaels. Personally, I’m not surprised that the Arachnophobia actor pulled it off. After all, he was the one to simultaneously impress and scare Jim Carrey during their read through for Dumb and Dumber and agree to the project for a ridiculous salary. Daniels is that talented.

It’s certainly not the first time the show’s creator made bold moves for SNL. One of the most recent instances comes from Nate Bargatze’s episode and the Washington sketch almost got axed by Michaels; thankfully it was a success in dress rehearsal and became one of the favorite sketches from the comedian’s night. Another moment comes from Heidi Gardner and the one requirement behind Travis Kelce hosting SNL.

Although some of these instances may seem wild or overwhelming, I think they're examples of why the sketch show has survived for so long. The one constant is that Michaels has been and is still running the show, and can tell if a host or cast member can rise to the occasion. As for Daniels and his on-the-fly Leno impression, it’ll live in infamy all thanks to Lorne Michaels’ deft decision-making.

Hopefully, for the Godless actor, a return to Studio 8H is in the cards after his '90s appearances and he can up his hosting count to three. Watch SNL on Saturday nights at 11:30 PM on NBC or stream it with a Peacock subscription the following day.

In the past, we’ve talked about some of the great dramatic performances by comedians, but today we’re going to turn our attention to the other side of that coin and highlight 32 serious actors who crushed in in comedic roles.

Robert De Niro (Meet The Parents)

Robert De Niro, an Oscar-winning actor known for serious parts in some of Martin Scorsese’s best movies, including Raging Bull and Goodfellas, as well as his turn as a young Vito Corleone in The Godfather Part II, showed the world that he was also one of the funniest stars in Hollywood with his portrayal of the iron-fisted Jack Byrnes in Meet the Parents. The deadpan expressions, the playing on his gangster roles, and his chemistry with Ben Stiller make this an all-time classic.

George C. Scott (Dr. Stranglelove)

George C. Scott will always be remembered for his portrayal of U.S. General George S. Patton in Franklin J. Schaffner’s Patton, but the acclaimed actor also crushed it in a more comedic role a few years earlier. His take on General Buck Turgidson in Stanley Kubrick’s Dr. Strangelove is nothing short of magnificent and hilarious as it gets. The satirical tone of this iconic anti-war film is biting, as is Scott’s legendary performance.

Philip Seymour Hoffman (Along Came Polly)

Though we could have included Rusty from Twister or Brandt from The Big Lebowski, Philip Seymour Hoffman’s performance in Along Came Polly is just too good to overlook. Though he’s atrocious at basketball (and in most social situations), Sandy Lyle is a force of comedic nature. It’s crazy that Hoffman went from Cold Mountain to this 2004 rom-com to Capote in the span of three years.

Tom Cruise (Tropic Thunder)

Tom Cruise steals the show in Tropic Thunder, which is no easy feat considering Ben Stiller, Jack Black, and Robert Downey Jr. sit atop the cast of this outrageous 2008 action comedy. But hey, Les Grossman, Cruise’s over-the-top and ill-tempered Hollywood exec is unforgettable in every single one of his scenes, especially whenever he dances.

Meryl Streep (Death Becomes Her)

Though not a slapstick or “laugh-a-minute” comedy, Death Becomes Her does feature some wild and hilariously comedic performances from the likes of Bruce Willis, Goldie Hawn, and Meryl Streep, who kills it with her portrayal of Madeline Ashton. The Oscar winner does get to show off her serious skills in the movie, but her character’s darkly humorous personality is worth a watch.

Leslie Nielsen (Airplane!)

It’s wild to think that Leslie Nielsen, an actor mostly remembered for spoof films, started out as a very serious dramatic actor. But that all changed with landmark comedies like Airplane!, where his deadpan humor and signature charm truly shined.

Kate Winslet (The Holiday)

Kate Winslet is known for dramatic movies like Titanic, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, and Revolutionary Road, but the talented dramatic actress was able to show off her comedy chops in The Holiday. This 2006 Nancy Meyers romantic comedy showed off a different side of Winslet, one we haven’t forgotten nearly 20 years later.

James Caan (Elf)

James Caan wasn’t really known for his comedy. Sure, his characters had some humorous lines in The Godfather and Thief, but drama was always his bag. And that’s what makes his performance in Elf so great. We weren’t used to seeing Caan share the screen with someone like Will Ferrell, and that juxtaposition of personalities made it so much fun to watch.

Morgan Freeman (Bruce Almighty)

Morgan Freeman will go down as one of the best dramatic actors of all time, and for good reason. His work in The Shawshank Redemption, Glory, and countless other movies is the stuff of legend. However, let’s not forget that he also put on one of the funniest performances when he played God in Bruce Almighty.

Ralph Fiennes (The Grand Budapest Hotel)

A little more than two decades after playing the vile Amon Goeth in Schindler’s List (and only a few years after portraying Lord Voldemort in the Harry Potter movies), Ralph Fiennes proved he was a great comedic actor with his take on M. Gustave in The Grand Budapest Hotel. Equal parts hilarious and charming, this performance was a breath of fresh air.

Danny Glover (Lethal Weapon)

After playing more serious roles in films like The Color Purple, Witness, and Silverado, Danny Glover showed off his comedy skills in Richard Donner’s iconic buddy cop action film, Lethal Weapon. Though he was more straight-laced compared to Mel Gibson’s Martin Riggs, Roger Murtaugh gave us some laughs.

Arnold Schwarzenegger (Kidergarten Cop)

Kindergarten cop isn’t just one of the funniest Arnold Schwarzenegger movies, it’s also one of his best. Featuring some of the actor’s most memorable one-liners, this 1990 action comedy showed that the Austrian bodybuilder-turned-actor was more than an ice-cold robot or trained killer.

Jeff Daniels (Dumb & Dumber)

Two years after playing Colonel Joshua Chamberlain in Gettysburg, one of the best Civil War movies ever made, Jeff Daniels played a vastly different type of character in Dumb and Dumber. The obnoxious and absurdly dim-witted Harry Dunne would end up becoming one of the more dramatic actor’s most famous roles.

Jack Nicholson (As Good As It Gets)

Jack Nicholson, one of the most well-known dramatic actors of the 20th century, has popped up in comedies over the years. Perhaps the best of the bunch, As Good as It Gets earned the One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest and Terms of Endearment star his third Oscar.

Jeff Bridges (The Big Lebowski)

Whenever the topic of the best Jeff Bridges movies comes up, it doesn’t take long for the conversation to turn to The Big Lebowski. Still considered to be one of his most iconic roles, the performance also showed that the largely dramatic actor could pull off an incredibly funny and beloved character.

Liam Neeson (Extras)

Liam Neeson is best known for his work in dramas like Schindler’s List and the Taken action movie franchise, but the decorated actor with that ice-cold delivery has shown off his funny side over the years. His attempt at improv on Extras is the stuff of legend, as is work in The Lego Movie.

George Clooney (O Brother, Where Art Thou?)

George Clooney often rides the line between comedy and drama in the likes of the Ocean’s movies and several Coen Brothers projects, and one of the best examples of that is found in O Brother, Where Art Thou?, a 2000 loose adaptation of The Odyssey. The scheming and conniving Ulysses Everett McGill is one of the all-time great movie characters.

Dustin Hoffman (Tootsie)

The Graduate, Kramer vs. Kramer, Midnight Cowboy, and All the President’s Men were just a few of the movies that showed off Dustin Hoffman’s incredible dramatic acting skills. It’s a similar story with Tootsie, the beloved 1982 comedy in which Hoffman plays an unlikeable and hirable actor who decides to dress like a woman to land a gig on a daytime soap opera.

Cuba Gooding Jr. (Jerry Maguire)

Cuba Gooding Jr. was out of this world in early 1990s dramas like Boyz n the Hood and A Few Good Men, but he was even better in Jerry Maguire as Tom Cruise’s titular character’s temperamental and needy client Rod Tidwell. The over-the-top performance was hilarious beyond belief.

Timothy Dalton (Hot Fuzz)

Timothy Dalton, an actor best known for playing James Bond and showing up in adaptations of Jane Eyre, got to show off his comedy chops in Hot Fuzz, Edgar Wright’s satirical action comedy. His take on Simon Skinner is just as great all these years later.

Leonardo DiCaprio (The Wolf of Wall Street)

Leonardo DiCaprio teamed up with Martin Scorsese for the fifth time in 2013 to make The Wolf of Wall Street. While previous collaborations like Gangs of New York and The Departed were far more dramatic, this hopped-up and raucous biopic allowed the actor to be outrageously funny on screen, and it paid off.

Billy Bob Thornton (Bad Santa)

Up until starring in Bad Santa, Billy Bob Thornton was mostly known for dramatic roles in films like Monster’s Ball and Sling Blade, but this 2003 R-rated comedy changed all of that. Over the line, vulgar, and one of the funniest performances of the 2000s, Thornton’s take on a mall Santa was an instant classic.

Brad Pitt (Burn After Reading)

Burn After Reading isn’t the best Coen Brothers movie, but it does feature one of Brad Pitt’s funniest performances. Chad Feldheimer, Linda Litzke’s (Frances McDormand) lovable yet moronic coworker is just so silly, so memorable, and so dumb. You just can’t help but love him.

Michael Caine (Dirty Rotten Scoundrels)

On top of being an actor who’s appeared in the most Christopher Nolan movies, Michael Caine is also one of the all-time greats of screen and stage, with dozens of iconic films to his name. And while he’s mostly known for his dramatic work, his portrayal of the dastardly Lawrence Jamieson in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels is so dang good.

Matt Damon (Dogma)

Long before he showed up as an actor playing Loki in Thor: Ragnarok, Matt Damon did it for real in Kevin Smith’s 1999 comedy, Dogma. Sandwiched between Rounders and The Talented Mr. Ripley, the actor’s portrayal of a fallen angel banished to Wisconsin was great and showed a funnier side.

Samuel L. Jackson (The Other Guys)

Samuel L. Jackson in The Other Guys is on a whole other level and is funnier than anything else the actor has done over the years. Sure, Pulp Fiction and Jurassic Park are better movies, but his short yet memorable performance as a gung-ho cop who throws caution (and himself) into the win is comedy cold.

Alan Rickman (Galaxy Quest)

Alan Rickman’s portrayal of Alexander Dane, a Shakespearean actor fed up with life and his career direction in Galaxy Quest, is so funny yet so heartbreaking. The way the Die Hard actor (who was also classically trained) finds the balance between comedy and tragedy is perfection.

Russell Crowe (The Nice Guys)

Russell Crowe made a career out of giving commanding, and largely dramatic, performances in everything from Romper Stomper to Gladiator, so it was great to see him play a more comedic role in The Nice Guys. This 2016 Shane Black film also starring Ryan Gosling, felt like a throwback to buddy action movies of yesteryear, and allowed Crowe to try a different approach to character-driven stories.

Mandy Patinkin (The Princess Bride)

Tony and Primetime Emmy Award-winning actor Mandy Patinkin has given incredible dramatic performances in movies like Yentl and shows like Homeland, but he’s probably best known for his portrayal of Inigo Montoya in The Princess Bride. The skill with a sword, the dashing good looks, and a killer backstory make this not only a great cinematic character but also a hilarious icon of the fantasy genre.

Kevin Kline (A Fish Called Wanda)

Kevin Kline is great in just about everything (especially The Big Chill and Dave), and that includes some great comedies. One of the best featuring a serious and dramatic actor’s work is A Fish Called Wanda. The despicable and charismatic Otto West steals the show whenever on screen.

Christian Bale (The Big Short)

Though not the most standard comedy of the past few years, The Big Short is funny in a frightening and thrilling kind of way. Adam McKay’s biographical crime dramedy about the events that led to the 2007 housing market crash and subsequent economic crisis does feature one of Christian Bale’s most interesting and hilarious performances with his take on hedge fund manager Michael Burry. Not a totally likable guy, but a great character without a doubt.

Chris Hemsworth (Thor: Ragnarok)

Thor: Ragnarok is still considered one of the best Marvel movies years after its release, and that’s mostly because of Chris Hemsworth’s new and improved portrayal of the “God of Thunder.” While the character was more serious in the first two movies (and two Avengers films), the more light-hearted and silly superhero was a comedy tour de force.

Before Dumb and Dumber was introduced to Jeff Daniels, he established himself as a dramatic actor. You’d see him in a lot of serious movies like the box office weekend hit Terms of Endearment, Arachnophobia, Speed and more. When Daniels took on the role of air-headed Harry Dunne in Dumb and Dumber, he was afraid the buddy comedy’s infamous toilet scene would put his own career in the shitter (ignore the pun), that is, until he caught Clint Eastwood’s reaction.

Dumb and Dumber may already be one of Jim Carrey’s best movies, but USA Today reported that Jeff Daniels also had to get himself into some comedy hijinks in order to stand out in the film as well. When Daniels read in the script that his character would have an explosive intestinal purge in the toilet after drinking laxative-spiked tea, he admitted being afraid this particular scene would destroy his career. As he recalled:

It’s true that Jeff Daniels really did go all out in his hilarious scene moving his pelvis around and making that animated facial reaction while uncomfortably doing his business. Especially since I’m assuming the sound effects were placed in post-production, I’m sure the Fly Away Home actor had to stick with his imagination on how bad his character’s bodily functions were without knowing what sounds were going to be put in place. It makes the scene all the more hysterical when it’s revealed the toilet was broken!

It’s comedic moments like exploding in someone else's toilet why Dumb and Dumber is one of the best movies of the ‘90s. It’s a situation that could sadly be relatable to any of us, because when you gotta go, you gotta go.

Just when Jeff Daniels thought the toilet scene would be his own career down the toilet, he discovered a fan of the Peter Farrelly comedy flick. Clint Eastwood, known for starring in the best Western movies, introduced himself to Daniels at a celebrity golf tournament and went raving about his legendary toilet scene:

What did I tell you? Audiences can watch this scene in Dumb and Dumber and look back to their own humiliating moment on the toilet in full laughter. It's all the more reason why Dumb and Dumber is a good comedy to watch when you need some cheering up. With the toilet scene and the great improvised film moment of what the most annoying sound in the world is, it would be impossible not to feel good after.

It’s hard to believe that New Line Cinema originally wanted no part of Jeff Daniels because of his reputation as a dramatic actor. Even Daniels’ agents discouraged him from going in the direction of Dumb and Dumber, afraid of what it would do to his career. But the Man in Full actor wanted to challenge himself with a comedy and work with Jim Carrey. To think that the studio offered Daniels a ridiculous salary of $50,000 to Carrey’s $7 million thinking he’d turn it down, only to go on accepting it.

Fortunately, the Emmy Award winner’s career is still alive and well 30 years later. While Jeff Daniels may have initially had fears doing Dumb and Dumber’s toilet scene, he made sure to mention how grateful he is for it now.

Just when Jeff Daniels thought an embarrassing collaboration with a busted toilet in Dumb and Dumber would ruin his acting career, Clint Eastwood commended him for portraying a moment similar to what the Dirty Harry actor went through. It proves you really do have to "plunge" right in and take risks in your comedy with the hopes it'll be celebrated by fans.

Dumb and Dumber is regarded as one of the 100 best movies of the 1990s and a certified cult classic. Most of the comedy classic’s success was attributed to the impeccable chemistry of Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels. However, not everyone was sold on Daniels playing Harry Dunne. 30 years after the film’s release, Peter Farrelly revealed the story of Daniels’ Dumb and Dumber audition.

Before appearing in the slapstick comedy, Daniels had only done a few comedies aside from his celebrated dramatic work in films like Ragtime and Terms of Endearment. The topic came up as Farrelly discussed his new film Ricky Stanicky with CinemaBlend’s ReelBlend podcast. When asked about casting “serious” actors like Daniels and William H. Macy in comedy, the Oscar-winning director delved into convincing New Line Cinema to pick the Radio Days actor for the outlandish role, saying:

If someone like Jim Carrey can be intimidated by Daniels, then the Emmy-winning actor was made for the role, as Farrelly mentioned. The director-writer knew Daniels would work as he recalled the actor’s 1986 comedy Something Wild being one of his favorite films. Although he was Carrey and Farrelly’s top choice, New Line faced a dilemma when it came to paying the beloved actor. The Raising Arizona director opened up about Carrey’s record-breaking salary affected Daniels’ payday unexpectedly, saying:  

It seemed like Jeff Daniels was playing the long game. He ended up cashing in on the comedy’s financial and cultural success. Dumb and Dumber grossed over $247 million worldwide despite getting a mixed reception. The cult classic comedy solidified Jim Carrey as a movie star and rebranded and revitalized Daniels’ Hollywood career. He appeared in lighter movies like 101 Dalmatians and Pleasantville afterward. The comedy was followed up by the 2014 sequel Dumb and Dumber To two decades later. Of course, the Terms of Endearment star’s career continued moving forward on both the big and small screens. John Goodman spent years living in LA, but in the '90s he'd had enough of California and he and his Louisiana-born wife made a choice between his hometown of St. Louis, and her home state. They moved to New Orleans, where they've been ever since. 

Matthew McConaughey - Austin

You can take the boy out of Texas, but you can't take the Texas out of the boy. Matthew McConaughey was born in Uvalde, TX, went to school in Austin, and has long lived on a ranch near the Texas state capital and getting fed up with the paparazzi in Malibu.

Bill Murray - Charleston, SC

Bill Murray has lived all over the place, LA, NYC, and Chicago... but he's a known fixture around Charleston, South Carolina and even owns his own restaurant in town called Harold's Cabin. He's also invested in the Charleston minor league baseball team. 

Harrison Ford - Jackson Hole, WY

Harrison Ford moved to LA in the '60s to follow his acting dreams, but once he hit it big, he bailed out. While he does own a home in Brentwood, he spends most of his time at his 800-acre ranch outside Jackson Hole, WY. The ranch has been his primary residence since the 1980s and it seems he prefers to call that home. 

Demi Moore - Idaho

When Covid hit in early 2020, Demi Moore and her daughters holed up together in her longtime house in Sun Valley, Idaho. They were soon joined by her ex-husband and father to her daughters, Bruce Willis. Eventually, Willis' current wife Emma Heming, and her child with Willis also joined the big happy family. Moore has lived in Sun Valley for years and it's often featured on her Instagram page.

Jeff Daniels - Chelsea, MI

Jeff Daniels grew up in the small town of Chelsea, Michigan and as soon as he could after finding success in Hollywood, he moved back. He's a true small-town kind of guy and it makes perfect sense. While he makes his money in Hollywood, his heart is always in Michigan. 

Chris Rock - New Jersey

Chris Rock has always been an East Coast guy. Though he was born in South Carolina, his family moved to Brooklyn when he was a baby. He grew up in Crown Heights and Bed-Stuy. He started his comedy career in New York City, and for a couple of decades has lived in Alpine, New Jersey.

John Travolta - Ocala, FL

John Travolta loves to fly and is a first-class plane spotter. As such, he seems to have found the perfect place to live. The Pulp Fiction star has called Ocala, FL home for decades now. While that might sound odd, it's not when you find out his house backs up to an actual airport, so he can park his planes right at home. Sounds pretty awesome. 

Tom Cruise - Clearwater, FL

Superstar Tom Cruise actually has houses all over the world. LA and London, for starters. The most surprising place he's owns property though has to be Clearwater, FL. Cruise has what's described in the Tampa newspaper as a "sprawling penthouse" just blocks from the headquarters of the Church of Scientology, to which he has long been an outspoken member, so it makes sense. 

Taylor Swift - Nashville

When speaking with USA Today around the time of the film’s release, Levine explained that he did the movie “for no money,” stating that he had made enough through his other ventures and wanted the experience.

It’s safe to say that all of these actors have done okay for themselves over the years after making relatively small salaries throughout their career. But it’s still wild to think about Robert Downey Jr. only making half-a-million to play Tony Stark. What a steal.

The comedic duo that is the more reserved Jeff Daniels and the wild man Jim Carrey is one of those teams that history will never forget. As their partnership in 1994’s Dumb and Dumber created a team destined for dim-witted greatness, the interviews connected to their pairing are just as iconic. Nowhere is that more readily apparent than a viral clip of the two actors talking up their experience, which has been re-released during the writer’s strike. 

As the 2023 WGA writer’s strike timeline continues to unfold, keeping shows like The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon off the air, social media has seen the series keeping itself busy by dropping “Fallon Flashbacks.” One of the most recent instances, shown below, comes from when Daniels and Carrey were promoting 2014’s Dumb and Dumber To, and it’s easy to see why it’s such a winner: 

What you see before you is, yet again, evidence of why Jeff Daniels and Jim Carrey are such a memorable team in the history of comedy. Lloyd and Harry’s antics wouldn’t have been half as memorable without either of their comedic energies, which is crazy when you consider that New Line Cinema didn’t want Jeff Daniels for his Dumb and Dumber role in the first place.

If only the powers-that-be had let Daniels do his magic shake of dumbness before saying such a thing, he may have convinced them a lot earlier. Though speaking of feelings, that Tonight Show clip is also enough to make us sad all over again about the fact that Jim Carrey announced his retirement from acting. 

With that news dropping roughly around the time of Sonic the Hedgehog 2’s release, it’s still not enough time to prepare ourselves to no longer see Carrey’s shenanigans freshly playing out on the big or small screen. It’s hard not to feel that way when watching him pull his usual faces of extreme emotions, especially with Jeff Daniels playing along right beside him.

With the WGA writer’s strike still raging, who knows what the next viral hit will be from The Tonight Show, or any other late night series trying to keep busy in the meantime. If there’s a silver lining, it’s that we’ll get to see old favorites like Daniels and Carrey cutting it up yet again. It may be reruns, but when the results are as hysterical as what’s seen above, it’s comfort in a conflicting time.

Are you afraid of spiders? Do you ever have moments where it feels like there’s something crawling on your leg and you’re afraid to find out what it is? I’m sure audiences in the ‘90s had that fear after they saw the horror-comedy flick Arachnobobia starring Jeff Daniels. Well, prepared to be scared again of creepy-crawly arthropods as Arachnobobia is getting a remake with familiar horror talent to help make it.

This underrated ‘90s favorite is about when the farm of a family physician, played by Jeff Daniels, turns into the breeding space for an aggressive and dangerous spider species that invade a small California town. Happy Death Day’s Christopher Landon is clearly not afraid of spiders as The Hollywood Reporter says that he has decided to take on directing this upcoming film. That means we should be expecting some scares and laughs to keep us entertained all the way through. 

The producers of this remake are none other than James Wan and Michael Clear who have produced successful horror projects together like Malignant. Another famous talent coming back who made his directorial debut with Arachnophobia in 1990 is Jurassic World's Frank Marshall, one of the founders of Amblin Entertainment, as executive producer. With all of this horror talent, Arachnophobia has a real shot of keeping audiences shaking.

One of my wishes for this remake would be for Jeff Daniels to somehow make a cameo appearance. He’s clearly legendary enough to have a spider-killing worm named after him. I’d like to think they can squeeze some room for him to either reprise his character or be someone completely new to the film. Another wish would be for there to be no CGI spiders and to stick with the ‘90s tradition of animatronics or real spiders to give the film the realism it needs to scare audiences as it did me. It’s definitely worth noting how Jurassic World uses so much CGI compared to animatronic dinosaurs. Despite the advancing technology we have today, it’s sometimes best to just use what worked in the past to get a rise out of audiences. But in this techno-centric world we live in, we should probably be expecting some CGI spiders.

Considering Arachnophobia was a blend of comedy and horror, Christopher Landon seems to be the right man for the job. He directed the gender-bending horror-comedy flick Freaky about a teenage girl switching bodies with a murderer as well as Happy Death Day which was a clever homage to Groundhog Day. Being able to mix the two genres of horror and comedy can be very useful in leaving audiences scared but generating enough of a laugh to avoid experiencing night terrors. So before you watch the remake of Arachnobobia, you can always use virtual reality to conquer your fear of spiders.

When it comes to some of the biggest films of the last decade, one that always pops up in my mind is The Martian. The Academy Award nominated movie told the story of a lone astronaut who had to find a way to survive on Mars after mistakenly being left for dead by his team, and told a tale of perseverance and strength. 

But with a film that was so well-received and with many stars headlining it, one might be wondering where the cast of the feature adaptation of Andy Weir's popular novel might be today. Well look no further, as this is what The Martian cast has been up to, and what they have going on in the next couple of years. 

Matt Damon (Mark Watney)

First up on this list is Matt Damon, the star of The Martian, who plays Mark Watney. From his Academy Award-nominated role, Damon has gone on to star in several movies that you might recognize. He had a funny cameo role in Thor: Ragnorok, a role he's expected to reprise in the upcoming 2022 movie release, Thor: Love and Thunder. 

Besides that, he’s also had starring roles in films such as The Great Wall, Stillwater, and Ridley Scott’s The Last Duel. And he reprised his famous role as the titular character in Jason Bourne. Besides his upcoming appearance in Love and Thunder, Damon is also going to be appearing in the new Christopher Nolan film, Oppenheimer. 

Jessica Chastain (Commander Melissa Lewis)

Next up, we have another big-time star, Jessica Chastain. Since her role as Commander Melissa Lewis in The Martian, Chastain has appeared in a number of movies and been a part of television as well. 

In terms of films, she was in The Zookeeper’s Wife, It: Chapter Two, a part of The 355 cast, won an Academy Award for The Eyes of Tammy Faye, and more. She was also in the miniseries, Scenes From a Marriage, and in the TV series, George and Tammy. 

Coming up, she is going to be in several films, including The Good Nurse, Memory, The Division and Mother’s Instinct, so keep an eye out for this talented actress. 

Kristen Wiig (Annie Montrose)

Kristen Wiig portrayed Annie Montrose in The Martian. Known for her hilarious yet moving comedic roles Kristen Wiig has done plenty of movies since the film. She was in the 2016 version of Ghostbusters, closed off the How To Train Your Dragon trilogy, was one of the villains in Wonder Woman 1984, was in the comedic hit, Barb And Star Go To Vista Del Mar and more. 

She’s also appeared in TV shows as well, including a recurring voice role in the adult animated series, Big Mouth, voiced Jenny Hart in Bless the Harts, and was in MacGruber. Coming up, she’s going to continue her role in the Despicable Me franchise in the upcoming Despicable Me 4, and she'll also be appearing in Mrs. American Pie on Apple TV+.

Jeff Daniels (Theodore “Teddy” Sanders)

Now we have Jeff Daniels, who played Teddy Sanders in The Martian. Daniels has been in many TV shows since his appearance on The Martian. He did have a big role in the film Allegiant, but TV is where he really shined in recent years. 

Daniels had a part in the miniseries, Godless, The Looming Tower miniseries, and recently starred in the Showtime series American Rust. Coming up, he’s going to be appearing in a new Netflix limited series called A Man In Full. 

Michael Pena (Major Rick Martinez)

Michael Pena played Major Rick Martinez in The Martian, and has been quite active in his career. He had a voice role in The Lego Ninjago Movie, had a fun part in Ant-Man as well as its sequel, was in the latest rebooted version of A Wrinkle in Time, had a big role in Dora and the Lost City of Gold, and most recently was a part of the Moonfall cast.

He also had a huge role as Kiki Camarena in the TV series, Narcos: Mexico. Next up, he will be in the upcoming film, Secret Headquarters, as well as reprise his role as Luis in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. 

Sean Bean (Mitch Henderson)

Sean Bean played Mitch Henderson in The Martian. Bean has been very active in television, and has appeared in many shows. He appeared in Legends, Wasted, Broken, The Frankenstein Chronicles, The Oath, Medici, Curfew, World on Fire, Time, and most recently, Snowpiercer, all in main or recurring roles. Talk about a big-time actor.

He’s also appeared in films like The Young Messiah or Dark River, but television is where Bean really shined. Coming up soon, he’s going to be in another new BBC series called Marriage, as well as a new movie role in Knights of the Zodiac.

Kate Mara (Beth Johanssen)

Kate Mara played Beth Johansson in The Martian, and has grown her career even more since then. In terms of movies, she’s appeared in such hits like Captive, Morgan, The Senator, Ghostwriter and more, but television is also where she’s been able to show her talents. 

She had a voice role in Moonbeam City, played Zoe Barnes in the House of Cards cast, portrayed Patty Bowes in the Ryan Murphy drama, Pose, and starred in the miniseries, A Teacher. Soon, she’s going to be in a new TV miniseries for FX called Class of ‘09. 

Sebastian Stan (Dr. Chris Beck)

Sebastian Stan has only continued to grow in popularity since his role as Dr. Chris Beck in The Martian, appearing in many TV shows and movies. One of his biggest roles is playing Bucky Barnes, otherwise known as The Winter Soldier, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, a role that he reprised for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier cast. 

Other than the MCU, Stan has been active in both movies and television. Some of his biggest roles were I, Tonya, where he received critical praise for his performance, Destroyer, The Devil All The Time, Monday, The 355, the Hulu original movie, Fresh and more. He’s also dived back into TV for a bit to play Tommy Lee as part of the Pam & Tommy cast on Hulu. Coming up, he's set to appear in the film Sharper. And in 2020 he was listed among the stars of the film The Brutalist, though we haven't seen updates on that project since. 

Aksel Hennie (Dr. Alex Vogel)

Next up, we have Aksel Hennie, who played Dr. Alex Vogul in The Martian. He’s appeared in films such as The Congo Murders, The Cloverfield Paradox, The Doorman, The Middle Man and more. He’s also had roles in TV shows such as White Wall and Nobel. 

In the next couple of years, he will be in a new film called Immortal. According to Deadline, the film began production in September 2021. 

Mackenzie Davis (Mindy Park)

Mackenzie Davis played Mindy Park in The Martian, and she’s appeared in films such as Blade Runner 2049, Freaks of Nature, Tully, Terminator: Dark Fate, the 2020 Christmas film, Happiest Season and more. She’s also had roles in TV shows like Halt and Catch Fire, as well as the miniseries Station Eleven. She even played Yorkie in the famous Black Mirror episode, “San Junipero."

In 2020, Variety included her among the cast of an upcoming film called Alpha Gang. 

Benedict Wong (Bruce Ng)

Benedict Wong's star has continued to rise over the last several years since The Martian released and he played Bruce Ng. His biggest role thus far has been playing Wong in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, most recently as part of the Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness cast, but Wong has done plenty of other TV shows and movies too. 

Some of his highlights include a big role in the film Nine Days, a role in the Raya and the Last Dragon cast, a starring role in the TV series, Deadly Class, a voice role in The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance, and more alongside his many appearances in Marvel. Coming up, he’s going to be in the new Disney+ Marvel show, She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, and in a Netflix TV series called The Three-Body Problem.

Donald Glover (Rich Purnell)

Donald Glover played Rich Purnell in The Martian. Besides his accomplished music career as Childish Gambino, Donald Glover has appeared in many movies, including Solo: A Star Wars Story, Guava Island, The Lion King, and more. 

He’s also been the creator and star of his own FX series, Atlanta, which as of writing this, just wrapped up its third season. Soon, he’s going to be starring in a TV series called Mr. & Mrs. Smith based on the movie of the same name. 

Chen Shu (Zhu Tao)

Chen Shu portrayed Zhu Tao in The Martian, and since then has appeared in a variety of TV shows and movies. These include, but aren’t limited, to the movie Fell in Love Like a Star, the miniseries A Love for Separation, the TV series, Peace Hotel, the TV series Behind the Scenes, the film Cloud Mountain and more.

Eddy Ko (Guo Ming)

Eddy Ko played Guo Ming in The Martian, and has appeared in a couple of films, including Beyond Redemption, The God of Wealth, and The Thousand Faces of Dunjia. 

Chiwetel Ejiofor (Vincent Kapoor)

Last but not least, we have Chiwetel Ejiofor, who has also continued to make a name for himself since his role as Vincent Kapoor in The Martian. Since the film, he appeared in Triple 9, Mary Magdalene, The Lion King, The Old Guard, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, and portrayed Baron Mordo in both Doctor Strange and its sequel. 

He also had a role in the TV series, The Man Who Fell to Earth. Among his upcoming projects are The Pod Generation, The Old Guard 2, and Rob Peace (the latter which he's expected to direct, per a report from Variety in 2020.) 

With so many stars, it’s hard to sometimes keep track of all the amazing stuff that they’re doing, but it's clear everyone's been busy with interesting movies and TV shows since the sci-fi film released in 2015. 

Just last week, a new species of tree was named after Leonardo DiCaprio following the Don’t Look Up actor’s efforts to raise awareness about logging in the area where it was discovered. It looks as if naming species after famous actors has become a trend, because now Jeff Daniels is the inspiration for the official name of a new tarantula-killing worm in tribute to his character from the 1990 horror-comedy Arachnophobia.

The scientists over at UC Riverside decided to call the newly-discovered parasite “Tarantobelus jeffdanielsi” in reference to the actor’s leading role in Arachnophobia, who also had a knack for killing spiders and ended up saving his town of a deadly infestation of them. Jeff Daniels shared his thoughts on being the name of a species with these words: 

Jeff Daniels has a perfectly sweet response to the news. The actor is clearly honored, but also adds a bit of clever humor to his reaction, poking fun at the fact at how so very random being the name of a species truly is. Previously, The Amazing Spider-Man actor Andrew Garfield had a species named after him called Pritha garfieldi, but overall it’s quite the distinct honor. 

There are 25,000 described species of nematodes, as they are one of the most abundant animals on Earth. The “Tarantobelus jeffdanielsi” is unique in the fact that it is the second of these species to be found to infect tarantulas. According to the UCR scientists, once these nematodes get to tarantulas, the spiders begin to “exhibit strange behaviors like walking around on tiptoe and not eating,” along with the appendages that control their fangs malfunctioning. The “Tarantobelus jeffdanielsi” led its tarantula targets to “die of starvation” due to their infection. 

1990’s Arachnophobia starred Jeff Daniels as Dr. Ross Jennings, whose barn becomes a breeding ground for an aggressive new species of spiders from the prehistoric times that finds its way into his California town. The movie was the directorial debut for Frank Marshall, who is famously one of the founders of Amblin Entertainment and produced beloved films like Raiders of the Lost Ark and Poltergeist.

The movie that also stars John Goodman was critically loved, especially for playing tribute to classic creature features in an entertaining way, but it wasn’t a commercial success. It remains a fun watch these days and is an underrated ‘90s favorite. 

The new showtime limited series The Comey Rule follows former FBI director James Comey in the lead-up to the 2016 presidential election and the final few months of his tenure before being fired by President Donald Trump. After watching the first episode of the two-night event, or at least watching its star-studded trailer, it's easy to see that the show is stacked with talented actors. And though Jeff Daniels and Brendan Gleeson are easy to spot as Comey and Trump respectively, some faces in The Comey Rule cast may be hard to point out. With that being said, here is where you've seen the cast before.

Jeff Daniels (James Comey)

Veteran actor of the screen (both big and small) and stage Jeff Daniels portrays former FBI director James Comey at two stages of the final years of career with the bureau in The Comey Rule. Prior to landing the lead role in the Showtime miniseries, Daniels appeared in everything from HBO dramas like The Newsroom, for which he won a Golden Globe for his portrayal of embattled news anchor Will McAvoy, to slapstick comedies like 1994's Dumb and Dumber with Jim Carrey. Other credits to Daniels' name include Terms of Endearment, Gods and Generals, and the Matt Damon-led sci-fi "comedy" The Martian.

Brendan Gleeson (Donald Trump)

Under all that makeup and that absurd wig is Brendan Gleeson in his portrayal of the 45th President of the United States Donald Trump, who is seen both before and after his 2016 election. Gleeson is no stranger to over-the-top characters like the one he plays in The Comey Rule, as he has spent much of his career showing up in everything from the Harry Potter franchise as Alastor "Mad-Eye" Moody, Gangs of New York, and In Bruges. Gleeson, the father of Domhnall Gleeson, is also known for his roles in Braveheart, Cold Mountain, and 28 Days Later. Poor Frank.

Holly Hunter (Sally Yates)

Academy Award winner Holly Hunter portrays Sally Yates, who served as the United States Acting Attorney General for 10 days at the start of the Trump Administration. Hunter, who has the distinction of being up for two acting Oscars in the same year, has been a driving force in Hollywood for nearly 40 years now. With roles in Raising Arizona, Broadcast News, The Piano (which netted her an Oscar), The Firm, and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Hunter has done it all. And if her voice sounds familiar that's because of her turn as Elastigirl in The Incredibles and its 2018 sequel.

Michael Kelly (Andrew McCabe)

Michael Kelly, who is no stranger to political dramas, plays Andrew McCabe the former deputy director of the FBI from 2016 to 2018. Prior to landing the role of the FBI official who was fired just hours before he was set to retire, Kelly made a name for himself as Doug Stamper on House of Cards, before that having appeared in a number of movies including two Zack Snyder films: Man of Steel and Dawn of the Dead. Kelly most recently appeared in Season 2 of the Amazon original series Jack Ryan.

Jennifer Ehle (Patrice Comey)

Jennifer Ehle portrays James Comey's wife Patrice in The Comey Rule, in a role that comes off as her husband's conscious. Jennifer Ehle, a two-time Tony winner (The Real Thing in 2000; The Coast of Utopia in 2007) has appeared in a number of prestigious films, television programs, and stage productions over the course of her 30-year career, but she is probably best known for her turn as Elizabeth Bennet in the 1995 BBC production of Pride and Prejudice. Outside of that, Ehle is known for her roles in Contagion, The Ides of March, Zero Dark Thirty, and the Fifty Shades franchise.

Peter Coyote (Robert Mueller)

Peter Coyote portrays former FBI director and former special counsel for the United States Department of Justice Robert Mueller in The Comey Rule. Coyote may not have the most recognizable face, but listen to his voice for a few seconds and it's hard to easy to remember hearing his narration of several of Ken Burns' documentaries, including Country Music, The Vietnam War, The National Parks, and countless others. In addition to his voice work, Coyote has appeared in everything from Erin Brockovich to E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial.

Steven Pasquale (Peter Strzok)

Steven Pasquale appears in The Comey Rule as former FBI agent Peter Strzok, who was in charge of investigating Hilary Clinton's use of a private email server ahead of the 2016 election and was later put on Robert Mueller's Russia investigation until text messages between Strozk and attorney Lisa Page were uncovered. Pasquale has long been a fixture on televisions thanks to roles on Six Feet Under, Rescue Me, The Good Wife, and The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story, in which he played detective Mark Fuhrman. He is also married to Hamilton star Phillipa Soo.

Oona Chaplin (Lisa Page)

Oona Chaplin portrays former FBI attorney Lisa Page, one of the two former members of the bureau caught up in the text message scandal surrounding criticisms of President Donald Trump during the Russian investigation. Chaplin, the granddaughter of Charlie Chaplin, is probably best known for her turn as Talisa Maegyr in Game of Thrones before her character was brutally murdered in the "Red Wedding." Since leaving the HBO fantasy series, Chaplin has gone on to show up in the FX drama Taboo, the Nicholas Sparks romance The Longest Ride, and will be featured in Avatar 2 and Avatar 3.

Scoot McNairy (Rod Rosenstein)

Scoot McNairy plays former deputy attorney general Rod Rosenstein in The Comey Rule. McNairy is probably best known for his role as Joe Stafford in the Academy Award-winning thriller Argo, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and the Netflix series Narcos: Mexico. He also gave a scene-stealing performance as grieving father Tom Purcell in Season 3 of True Detective.

William Sadler (Michael Flynn)

Hot off his appearance in Bill & Ted Face the Music, longtime Frank Darabont collaborator William Sadler portrays former national security advisor Michael Fly in Showtime's political drama. Prior to showing up as the embattled Flynn, Sadler showed up multiple times as President Matthew Ellis in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, including Iron Man 3, Ant-Man, and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Sadler has also appeared in movies like The Shawshank Redemption, The Mist, and Die Hard 2.

T.R. Knight (Reince Priebus)

T.R. Knight portrays former Republican National Committee chairman and former White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus in The Comey Rule. Before playing President Donald Trump's short-lived chief of staff, Knight cut his teeth on Grey's Anatomy where he took on the role of Dr. George O'Malley in the long-running medical drama's first five seasons. Since then, Knight has shown up in shows like The Good Wife, 11.22.63, and Will & Grace, as well as movies like the 2013 Jackie Robinson biopic, 42.

Kingsley Ben-Adir (Barack Obama)

You can't have a political drama partially set in 2016 without including the 44th President of the United States Barack Obama, and The Comey Rule has Kingsley Ben-Adir taking on the role. Prior to joining the cast of the Showtime limited series, Ben-Adir appeared on a number of television programs, including Peaky Blinders, The OA, and High Fidelity. He's also had roles in movies like World War Z, King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, and Regina King's One Night in Miami.

Joe Lo Truglio (Jeff Sessions)

Joe Lo Truglio is almost unrecognizable as former United States Attorney General Jeff Sessions, but that's the Brooklyn Nine-Nine star under the wig and makeup. Over the course of his nearly 30-year career, Truglio has remained one of the funniest yet underrated comedic actors in film and television. From his early days on The State to random appearances on Reno 911!, and even his role as Neil in Wet Hot American Summer (and it's Netflix continuations), Truglio's ability to make us laugh knows no bounds.

Jonathan Banks (James Clapper)

Jonathan Banks plays former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper in The Comey Rule. Banks is probably best known to modern television viewers as Mike Ehrmantraut on Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, but the veteran actor has been showing up on various programs as far back as the 1970s. Banks also appeared in the 2001 comedy Crocodile Dundee in Los Angeles.

Michael Hyatt

And then there is Michael Hyatt, who takes on the role of former attorney general Loretta Lynch. Hyatt is probably best known for her take on Brianna Barksdale in the first four seasons of the hit HBO crime series. Hyatt also stars as Cissy Saint on the FX series Snowfall. Other credits include The West Wing, Oz, Veronica Mars, Dexter, and Glee.

Teams like Dumb and Dumber’s Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels always seem to find creative ways to work together. Whether it’s reuniting for a long awaited sequel or crashing one another’s guest spots on Conan, it’s always a fun time when the two pranksters get to do something they’re passionate about. Which is why it’s exciting to hear that not only does Carrey have a book on the way, he’s recruited Daniels’ to be the narrator for the tome, titled Memoirs and Misinformation.

Taking to his Twitter feed to announce the news, Jim Carrey was absolutely pleased to tell the world that his friend, Jeff Daniels, was going to be part of a venture that could only (partially) come from his insightful and absurd mind. Co-written with author Dana Vachon, Memoirs and Misinformation is the story of a fictionalized version of Carrey, who meets someone in his life who could change everything.

What exactly “everything” entails is a strange and satirical journey that goes into some interesting places. So while you might expect a reunion of Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels to be a totally hysterical, care-free affair, that’s not exactly what’s going to be present in Memoirs and Misinformation. So what can one expect, if not a Dumb and Dumber-esque experience? Well, if you’re really curious, you can listen to an excerpt of Daniels reading from the book, courtesy of the Twitter announcement. But be warned, it's pretty dark:

Yeah, that’s not exactly Sonic The Hedgehog 2 fan fiction that Jim Carrey has co-written here. Rather, Memoirs and Misinformation seems to be an experience that’ll line up with more of Carrey’s Twitter content of late. It’s definitely a more political bending piece of work, and since Jeff Daniels aligns pretty closely with his friend’s politics, the match couldn’t be a finer one.

Memoirs and Misinformation might not be for everyone, that’s something that needs to be made exceedingly clear. But whether it’s your cup of tea or not, it’s hard to disagree with Jim Carrey and Dana Vachon’s words being in better hands. The only real question left for potential audience members is how dark do they prefer their comedy, and what’s the line between a-ok and way too much.

It may not be Dumb and Dumber Thrii, or whatever a potential Dumb and Dumber follow-up would be titled, but seeing Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels is enough of a cause to celebrate on its own. Who knows? Maybe they’ll start talking, and boom, Daniels is cast as a new associate/nemesis for Dr. Robotnik in the very much announced Sonic The Hedgehog 2.

Memoirs and Misinformation will be available at fine booksellers on July 7, with an entire audiobook read by Jeff Daniels. Meanwhile, you can see Carrey in Sonic The Hedgehog, which is currently available on Digital HD, as well as 4K UHD, Blu-ray and DVD.

Donald Trump and James Comey are coming to TV, and not just via news broadcasts or late night TV appearances. A miniseries being produced by CBS Studios is in the works that will be based on former FBI Director Comey's bestselling book, and it will chronicle events involving President Trump, Comey himself, and many more real-life figures.

The book is called A Higher Loyalty: Truth, Lies and Leadership. It was published back in April 2018 and caused quite a stir, as it was penned by the man who was fired after President Trump wasn't happy with how James Comey was investigating the emails of Hillary Clinton. The uproar that followed won't soon be forgotten, nor will the fact that Comedy found out that he was fired from a TV report.

So, who will play Donald Trump and James Comey for the series? Let's start with who will tackle the role of Trump.

Irish actor Brendan Gleeson, arguably best known on the small screen for his work as star of Mr. Mercedes, is on board to play the 45th President of the United States. Screenwriter Billy Ray of Captain Philips fame is adapting James Comey's book for the four-hour miniseries, and he explained (via Variety) that it takes a "presence" and "singular kind of dynamism" to play Donald Trump, as well as an actor who is "spectacularly talented and watchable."

Bill Ray stated that "it's hard to imagine a bigger acting challenge" than playing Donald Trump. I wonder what Alec Baldwin would say to that! Something tells me that Brendan Gleeson's performance as Trump in the currently untitled miniseries won't have too much in common with Baldwin's portrayal of the President on Saturday Night Live. It's not yet clear how much of a presence Gleeson as Trump will have in the series, although the 2018 book does cover the relationship between James Comey and Trump.

Of course, a TV show based on a book written by James Comey was bound to include a version of Comey himself. So, what actor will play the former FBI director?

Once best known for his comedic roles, Jeff Daniels has proved himself more than capable of tackling drama, as reaffirmed in recent years due to his leading (and Emmy-nominated) role in Hulu's The Looming Tower and his Tony-nominated turn as Atticus Finch in the stage adaptation of To Kill a Mockingbird. Billy Ray, who will be directing the series as well as helming the adaptation, revealed that he knew he'd found "the only person who could play Jim Comey" after seeing him in To Kill A Mockingbird.

So, why is Jeff Daniels such a solid fit to play James Comey? Billy Ray explained that his "instant integrity, loads of warmth, intelligence, complexity and gravitas" are what convinced him that he needed Daniels for the project. Fortunately, Daniels said yes, and he will play the James Comey to Brendan Gleeson's Donald Trump.

Although the miniseries is being produced by CBS Studios, it will likely air on Showtime, CBS All Access, or both. Production begins in November, but there is no target premiere date announced just yet. Michael Kelly, a.k.a. Doug Stamper of that shocking twist from House of Cards, is on board to play Acting FBI Director Andrew McCabe, and Jennifer Ehle will play Patrice Comedy, James Comey's wife. This will reunite Ehle with Jeff Daniels, as she appeared in three episodes of Daniels' The Looming Tower.

Usually guests appearing on a late night talk show is a simple affair: a talent stops by to plug something, the host throws in a couple of jokes in between asking questions, and after a segment or two, the show moves on to the next guest or act. But every now and then, a surprise is thrown in for the audience and sometimes even the guest themselves. Last night, Jeff Daniels stopped by Conan to plug his Hulu series The Looming Tower, and during his appearance, his Dumb and Dumber costar Jim Carrey crashed the interview for a brief reunion, which you can watch below.

At first, Conan O'Brien mentioning Dumb and Dumber to Jeff Daniels doesn't seem like anything special, since it is one of the actor's more popular movies. But as we soon learn, the host was just using it as pretense for Jim Carrey to enter the studio. It's immediately clear that Daniels is pleased to see Carrey, and over the next six minutes, they switch off between giving each other a hard time (Carrey tells Daniels that The Looming Tower sounds funny) and reminiscing about old times, from their first collaboration together on Dumb and Dumber to when they reprised Harry and Lloyd a few years back in Dumb and Dumber To. But there wasn't just fun to be had between Carrey and Daniels, as Carrey also talked about how he and O'Brien now live in the same neighborhood, but they haven't spent that much time together, with Carrey only seeing a pompadour go past the top of his fence every so often like a shark fin in the water.

As for why Jim Carrey specifically stopped by Conan to hang out with Jeff Daniels, towards the end of the interview, it was revealed that Carrey will be shooting some material with Conan O'Brien soon to promote his upcoming TV series Kidding. When Carrey heard that Jeff Daniels was stopping by Conan, he decided to peek in a little early, but much to Daniels' chagrin, it doesn't sound like there's a spot available for him on this Kidding piece. While Dumb and Dumber To wasn't a particularly well-received movie, which Carrey and Daniels are well aware of, there's no denying that the men have great chemistry together. Here's hoping that one day the two can reunite on the big screen for a project that doesn't involve Harry and Lloyd getting into shenanigans.

Jeff Daniels can currently be seen in The Looming Tower, which released its final episode today, and his next movie appearance will be The Catcher Was a Spy, which hasn't been assigned a release date yet. Jim Carrey's Kidding will premiere on Showtime later this year. Over the last few years, we have seen the true crime genre take off in a significant way, as dramatizations of recent real-life events are hot topics on prestige TV. Now, Hulu has gotten in on the action, with executive producers Lawrence Wright, Dan Futterman, and Alex Gibney adapting Wright's book The Looming Tower: Al Qaeda and the Road to 9/11 for the streaming platform. As repurposed for TV, The Looming Tower can feel slow and dry at times, but it's also a powerful and often infuriating display of how law enforcement bickering ultimately helped destroy thousands of lives.

Chronologically speaking, the real story of The Looming Tower begins in 1998, in an America far more concerned with the Bill Clinton and Monica Lewinsky scandal than with anything big happening overseas. As Al-Qaeda begins ramping up its efforts for a major attack on American soil, we're introduced to FBI head honcho John O'Neill (Jeff Daniels), who enlists the aid of agent Ali Soufan (Tahar Rahim) to assist him in the hunt for Osama Bin Laden (or "UBL"), but not without constant stonewalling and withholding of information by CIA officer Martin Schmidt (Peter Sarsgaard). What follows is a three-year quagmire characterized by both preventable attacks with real victims and constant infighting that conveys just how disconnected from each other many of our most prominent law enforcement and intelligence agencies truly are.

One early element worth noting is how frustrating The Looming Tower is depicting the lead-up to September 11, 2001. The rift between the CIA and the FBI permeates every episode, with the bulk of the story focusing on characters arguing over who has jurisdiction and legal rights to any and all specific pieces of intelligence.

In that way, it's impossible to look at that story and not see how The Looming Tower _is wholly relevant to the modern era, despite the fact that its core story is almost 20 years old. The show features numerous scenes of characters discussing the political ramifications of specific courses of action, while consistently cutting back to Al-Qaeda members planning the attacks, and we're always reminded of the tangible consequences that lie just around the corner if no action takes place. _The Looming Tower may depict the pothole-filled road to 9/11, but it also serves as a clear and disturbing parable that in some ways mirrors the same issues continuing to plague the government years later.

When you look at a show like The Looming Tower, one of the first things that jumps out is the cast. The always excellent Jeff Daniels and Peter Sarsgaard are the two heavy-hitters in this ensemble as FBI officer John O'Neill and the CIA's Martin Schmidt, respectively, and much of The Looming Tower's dramatic tension comes from the growing divide generated between these two men and their unyielding organizations. The distinction between these two men couldn't be more apparent: O'Neill is thoroughly flawed, but ultimately well-intentioned in trying to do the "right" thing while also creating a stable life for himself. Meanwhile, Schmidt is ceaseless in his commitment to his work (and his cult-like influence over his CIA underlings), which seems to stem more from his desire for control than any desires to make the right call in the war on terror.

Working beneath O'Neill and Schmidt are two other main characters that we follow through the bulk of the investigation: Tahar Rahim's Ali Soufan and Bill Camp's Robert Chesney. As Soufan, Rahim delivers a calm and measured performance as a young Muslim man trying to navigate the politics of an American law enforcement agency that's actively hunting young Muslim men. Meanwhile, Camp provides arguably the best performance of the entire series, portraying Chesney as a tired and drained man with a variety of hidden law enforcement talents, somewhat in the vein of Better Call Saul's Mike Ehrmantraut.

Despite that handful of notable performances, though, few others in The Looming Tower's cast jump out as clear standouts, which admittedly comes across less as sloppy storytelling, and more a matter of intentional design. The Looming Tower is all about the sheer number of moving parts involved in the lead-up to 9/11, and which is better personified by a constantly in-motion ensemble than something purely character-driven. Even when instantly noteworthy cameos happen, such as those from The Shape of Water's Michael Stuhlberg and Alec Baldwin, we're almost always watching understated performances that don't rely on scenery chewing.

This ensemble-focus lends a sense of realism to how The Looming Tower's narrative unfolds, but it can also be hard to shake the feeling that the show is purposefully dry and impersonal. Series co-creator Alex Gibney has largely become known for his work on documentaries Going Clear and Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room, and the stiff, exposition-oriented emphasis on facts and reports dominates The Looming Tower's tone. It can be a welcome change of pace, certainly, especially when emphasizing the fact that events prefacing 9/11 were not characterized by foot chases and fist fights. However, that approach also means the story lacks a certain amount of kinetic energy and urgency as that infamous date draws near.

What makes The Looming Tower fundamentally work as a series is its profoundly disturbing implications about the divisions and infighting in government and law enforcement that allow tragedies like 9/11 to go unthwarted. The dense and complex story sometimes plays more like a bitter history lesson or an exposition-heavy reenactment than an emotionally-investing TV drama, but that shouldn't take away from the importance of this tale.

Many time travel conversations have posed a particular scenario to those involved: going back in time to kill Adolph Hitler so World War II and the Holocaust never happen. Feel free to substitute any other tyrant and atrocities, but the point is that if you were able to travel back in time, would you do whatever necessary to prevent said tyrant from ever committing those atrocities? In 2012, the Rian Johnson-helmed Looper set up that situation when a retired assassin named Joe (played by Bruce Willis) traveled back 30 years to kill a child who would eventually grow up to be a ruthless criminal boss known only as the Rainmaker. This mission, unsurprisingly, complicates his younger self's (played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt) life, leading to a lot of shooting, cursing and explosions.

By the time Looper ended, it looked like Young Joe was successful in preventing the Rainmaker's rise to power. However, time travel is a complicated subject. In some tales, going back in time and changing certain events is an easy feat. In other cases, changing the past doesn't always mean that the future is significantly altered. So what's the deal with Looper? Is the future brighter because the Rainmaker will never be "born," or will the young boy (played by Pierce Gagnon) still grow up to be a telekinetic monster? That's what this features aims to determine. To start, let's recap what happened in the movie...

The Plot

As young Seth (played by Paul Dano) learned from his older self, 30 years into the Looper world's future, the Rainmaker has seized power away from the five major bosses. This makes him the most powerful criminal in the county (if not the entire country), both in terms of his telekinetic abilities and stature. However, that isn't enough for the Rainmaker, as he's also closing out all the loops, i.e. killing every retired assassin, no matter what. Unfortunately for Old Joe, that resulted in his wife being gunned down when he was taken. Granted, he expected to be killed eventually because his loop closed, but he didn't think his wife would be lost in the process. Desperate to prevent the only person he ever loved from meeting her cruel fate, he overpowered his kidnappers and went back 30 years to kill the Rainmaker as a child, time travel repercussions be damned.

Old Joe successfully arrived back in the present time period, and after doing his best to make sure his younger self wouldn't interfere, he set out to kill all the children in that city with the Rainmaker's birthday to cover his bases. Meanwhile, young Joe, having seized a portion of Old Joe's map, traveled to the farm where Cid, the young Rainmaker, was being raised by his mother, Sara (played by Emily Blunt). While watching over them, Joe not only learned about Sara's past and her TK ability (something that approximately 10% of the population has at by this point history), but also saw firsthand how Cid is the most powerful TK the world has ever known. This explains how he's able to wipe out all his competition in the future; he just tears them apart with his mind.

Eventually Old Joe made his way to the farm, and Young Joe and Sara did their best to protect Cid, whose jaw is grazed by a bullet during the attack. This struggle culminates with Sara willing to sacrifice herself so her son can escape and Young Joe desperately trying to stop his older self, but unable to get close enough due to his injured leg. He also saw in his mind that Sara dying would set Cid on a path of angriness and loneliness. The Rainmaker's path, a circle going round and round. Left with no other choice, Young Joe shot himself with his blunderbuss, thereby wiping Old Joe from existence and saving both Sara and Cid. Since all the members of Abe's (played by Jeff Daniels) gang were also eliminated by Old Joe, that means that the mother and her son will get to live their lives in peace without any fear of retribution.

Mission accomplished. Right? Read on...

Why Joe Might Have Succeeded

The key to Young Joe's success is keeping Sara alive. When Old Joe and Young Joe were chatting at the diner, the former spouts off some rumors he's heard about the Rainmaker, one of them being that the criminal powerhouse watched his mother get shot. This was presumably the inciting event that led him to the dark side. Remember, even with Sara's parenting, there were times when Cid lost control of his power. Without her love and education giving him stability, he would have nothing reining him in, and he would become that feared criminal in the future.

Fortunately, Young Joe made the ultimate sacrifice, which, as he put it, broke the cycle, That, along with Old Joe gunning down Abe's gang, means ideally, Sara and Cid will live out their lives in peace. Sara can continue taking care of Cid, making sure he keeps his telekinetic powers under control. It won't be easy. Cid will probably still have the occasional tantrum, requiring Sara to hide in her closet vault until he calms down. Fortunately, Sara is determined to make sure he has a better childhood than she did, and now she has extra incentive to keep this up since she knows what will happen 30 years from now if he doesn't have the proper guidance. Oh, and he'll also keep learning about math, literature, science and all the skills that a well-functioning adult should have at least a basic grasp on. It's the telekinesis control that's the priority, though.

Why Joe Might Not Have Succeeded

The problem with understanding Looper's time travel is that the movie doesn't delve deeply into the rules. This is to spare us from getting a headache, or as Abe put it, "fry your brain like an egg." However, there's a distinct possibility that even with all of Young Joe's efforts, Cid will still become the Rainmaker. Here's the problem. In Old Joe's timeline, he never went back in time. He killed his older self and lived the next decades of his life as a criminal and junkie until he met his wife and cleaned up. It was only after she died that he went back in time to try to change the past. Let's now fast-forward to near the end of the movie, where Joe realized that if Old Joe killed Sara, the Rainmaker would be created. Don't forget, Cid's jaw was injured near the end of the story, and the Rainmaker having a prosthetic jaw was another rumor that Old Joe heard back in his era.

In case you missed it, we now have two separate realities where the end result is the Rainmaker's creation. In one timeline, Joe had nothing to do with the Rainmaker, meaning that someone else murdered Sara and hurt Cid's jaw. In another timeline that never came to pass, Old Joe is directly responsible for Cid becoming evil. So even though the odds are likelier that Cid won't become the Rainmaker since Sara is still taking care of him, it's not guaranteed. This also begs the question of who killed Sara in Old Joe's timeline. Was it a common criminal or did another Looper travel back to the past just like Old Joe? That might explain why Rainmaker was wiping out all the Loopers. On the surface, it looked like he was just taking care of loose ends, but maybe he also used this as an excuse to exact revenge against people like the person who murdered his mother and left him an orphan.

Looper's temporal insanity could be another Terminator situation. Terminator 2: Judgement Day's ending implied that the apocalyptic future filled with killer robots will never come to pass, but years later in Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, we learned that Skynet's creation was merely delayed, not stopped. Even though past events were changed, the timeline still found a way of reverting back to its original course. This could be what happens in the Looper world, and no matter what a time traveler does when Cid is a kid, he'll still grow up to be the Rainmaker.

At this point, some of you will wisely point out that the difference between this new timeline and Old Joe's timeline, as well as the vision that Young Joe saw, is that Sara was dead in those. With her alive, Cid won't be tempted to grab power and seek vengeance against the Loopers. That's a fair point, but it doesn't guarantee that he will grow up to be an upstanding citizen. Even though Sara survived, Cid still witnessed a lot of things not meant for a child's eyes...or anyone's eyes, for that matter. He destroyed Jesse with his mind, he was caught in a car accident and he was struck by a bullet that nearly led to him killing his mother and Old Joe had the former not calmed him down. These events may have been traumatizing enough that Cid will still grow up to be a bad seed, though maybe not as destructive as he was in the previous reality.

Don't forget, this is also a world where things aren't exactly bright and shiny, at least in the United States. Poverty is at an all-time high, the police are controlled by these criminal organizations and it's easier than ever to score drugs. Assuming he ever leaves the farm, Cid will be exposed to the ugliness of modern society at some point, leading him down a bad path. Sadly, that is something that can't be avoided, and it will be up to Cid himself, not anyone else, to decide how he wants to contribute to society.

The Verdict

Looper is one of the more twisted time travel stories, and even after reading this feature, I'm sure many of you will continue puzzling over the movie's ending. That being said, despite all the concerns about timelines possibly repeating themselves, it looks like Cid can finally live his life Rainmaker-free. As we stated earlier, Sara staying alive was the key. Cid still walked away with a injured jaw and saw more carnage than any person should, but because Young Joe killed himself and erased Old Joe from existence before he could pull the trigger, the boy can live out the rest of his childhood with his loving mother. He wasn't so fortunate in the other timelines/realities, but thankfully, that cycle has been broken.

Does this guarantee that Cid will grow up to be a good person? No, of course not. Hell, he may even still get involved with crime when he's a young man, whether he seeks it out willingly or gets wrapped up in it accidentally. Still, with Sara's parenting, he stands a better chance of not becoming a telekinetic madman than he would have if he was alone and filled with fury. 30 years from the "present," those gangs will still be operating on their own accord, which is a shame, but at least they won't have the world's most powerful TK leading them. Plus, keep in mind that with telekinesis as enhanced as his, Rainmaker could conceivably have destroyed the world if he wanted to. The future could have become much worse than the whispers we heard.

Of course, this is good news for Cid and Sara, but not for Joe. Because he killed himself, he'll never meet his wife and find the peace he was desperately craving, but at least he went out nobly, not only sparing his would-be wife, but all those who would have been causalities from the Rainmaker's actions. That's a significant progression from the man who earlier was unwilling to give up half his silver to save a friend's life.

Netflix has produced some killer original series over the years that have covered just about every genre. One genre that had gone unrepresented was the Western. Luckily for fans itching for some outlaw action from the streaming service, a Western series is in the works at Netflix. The show will be called Godless and star a pair of TV greats who should make it an adventure worth watching.

Godless will star Jeff Daniels and Merritt Wever as key players in the limited run series, according to THR. The show will be set in the late 19th century and revolve around outlaw Frank Griffin (Daniels) as he hunts down his pal-turned-enemy Roy Goode. As Roy evades capture, Frank ends up in a mysterious small town in New Mexico that just so happens to be filled with all women after the menfolk died in a mining mishap. He meets Mary Agnes (Wever), who is the assertive widow of the deceased mayor of the town.

Jeff Daniels and Merritt Wever are both proven talents on the small screen. Daniels won an Emmy for his role as Will McAvoy on HBO's Newsroom. In addition, he was nominated for a Golden Globe, a Satellite Award, and a Screen Actors Guid Award for the twenty-five episodes he spent on Newsroom. Wever also has an Emmy to her name thanks to her role on Showtime's Nurse Jackie as Zoey Barkow, and she had a memorable run as Schmidt's temporary lady love Elizabeth on New Girl. Her character of Denise was tragically killed off in Season 6 of The Walking Dead, but it seems that Denise's death may have been for the greater good if it opened Wever up to join Godless.

Other key characters have been cast for Godless in addition to Jeff Daniels and Merritt Wever. Jack O'Connell of Unbroken fame will play Frank's target Roy, and Jeremy Bobb of The Knick and The Wolf of Wall Street will play newspaper editor A. T. Grigg. Thomas Brodie-Sangster of Maze Runner and Game of Thrones is on board as well. He'll tackle the role of a brave deputy. Given that Thomas Brodie-Sangster barely looks much older now than he did as a precious youngster back in Love Actually in 2003 and he is best known now for playing teenagers, it should be interesting to see how he does at playing a real adult for Godless.

Godless has been created for Netflix by Steven Soderbergh and Scott Frank. The two men will write, direct, and executive produce Godless with the help of veteran producer Casey Silver.

The new Netflix Western is only in the early stages of production at this point, so we will probably have a while to wait until we get to see Jeff Daniels and Merritt Wever in action on Godless. Still, between the stellar cast and capable producers, we have reason to be optimistic about what's to come. With this week’s return of Derek Zoolander, we will make our long awaited return to the land of the really, really, ridiculously good looking. In addition to being really good looking, Zoolander and his friend Hansel are also really stupid. Most of the time stupid characters are simply sidekicks meant to make the hero look smart by comparison.

Sometimes, however, on rare occasions, stupid people can be done so well that the audience will follow them wherever they go. They achieve a level of brilliance within their own idiocy. But creating a truly beloved moron is no simple task. It’s so easy for a character to be as annoying to the audience as they are to the other people on screen. But we came up with a list of characters that we love even though they’re dumb as rocks.

Alan Garner - The Hangover

Everybody has that one friend. Luckily, for most of us he’s not as bad as Alan Garner. Don’t let the beard fool you, he’s a child. Alan appears to have stopped maturing and educating himself somewhere around the age of 10-years-old. He probably has more in common with Dustin Hoffman in Rainman than he realizes. He seems to be completely clueless to the world around him, especially his friends, who don’t even hide their varying degrees of disdain they have for the man. But the childlike joy is part of what we love about him. We wouldn’t have him any other way.

Inspector Clouseau - The Pink Panther

Inspector Clouseau, as played by Peter Sellers, of course (we’re pretending the Steve Martin thing never happened), is probably the greatest cinematic idiot of all time. So many have taken their cues from this great character. While the man is surely a fool who solves his cases more by accident than by any sort of skill, he’s also a victim. Murphy’s Law has it out for Jacques Clouseau. The entire world seems to have it out for him. Every object that isn’t nailed down is going to fall on him. If a pratfall is possible, it will occur. We suppose we can cue this up to a lack of awareness for his own surroundings, but seriously, after about the third movie you start to figure the world just doesn’t like this guy.

Brick Tamland - Anchorman: The Legend Of Ron Burgundy

Being the biggest idiot among the cast of Anchorman is no small feat, but somehow Steve Carell is able to do it the role of Brick Tamland. As terribly, terribly stupid as everybody on this list is, nobody else actually needs to be convinced that they’re not dead. That is unique to Brick. It’s amazing that Brick has been able to fake his way around pretending to be a functional human. Even beyond that, he’s somehow achieved a level of success. How does a man who is utterly unable to interact with other humans able to impress in a job interview?

Harry and Lloyd - Dumb And Dumber

We really can’t go much further without bringing up two of the biggest morons of modern cinema. If there’s anything better a good movie fool, it’s two, and though Harry and Lloyd are two people, we're counting them as one entry because they come as a single unit. You get the distinct impression that if either of these two were on their own they would have accidentally strangled themselves with a shoelace years ago. Luckily, there’s just enough of a brain between the two of them to get them through life. We’re pretty sure both these guys actually land someplace on the autism spectrum. We should probably stop laughing at them, it feels insulting and mean.

Nigel Tufnel - This Is Spinal Tap

There’s a stereotype that people in rock and roll are all idiots. Nigel Tufnel is the rule which proves the exception. As the faux documentarian of This is Spinal Tap, Rob Reiner is forced to ask questions of a man who is utterly incapable of giving coherent answers. He spends his life with a perpetual look of confusion on his face. His amps may go to 11, but we’re pretty sure his grey matter only makes it to about four. His cluelessness is so endearing, though, and to be fair, he can rock like nobody’s business.

Otto West - A Fish Called Wanda

There are all sorts of idiots in movies, but the worst are the ones who think they’re a lot smarter than they actually are. Otto West is a moron. At some point, he realized this, and so he tried to do things like read philosophy in order to be able to sound more intelligent. Now, he needs people to believe he’s brilliant. Of course, the inferiority complex that exists still forces him to utterly hate all things English because they come across as superior, even while he masquerades at being as smart as he thinks they are.

Mr. Bean

We almost didn’t include Mr. Bean here, because he’s really not a dumbass, he’s a stunted man-child and that’s not the same thing. The problem, of course, is that he’s not really a child. He’s a grown man. He’s also a complete numbskull. The literal definition of the word dumb, in that he’s also apparently unable to speak, Mr. Bean is in his own world and doesn’t let the fact that others are trying to live in any way impact his own existence. It’s best that he not deal with people because when he does he has no idea how to interact with anyone.

Frank Drebin - The Naked Gun

While Frank Drebin was designed as a modern Inspector Clouseau, he’s also a bit of a special case. Though Drebin is still a fool himself, forgetting to turn off his microphone when using the bathroom or dropping his hard hat into the gears of working machinery, he also exists in a world that doesn’t make a lot of sense. He can never seem to find his bearings. When he acts intelligently the world is foolish, and when he’s the fool it’s because the world is normal again. We can’t blame him for being perpetually lost. No, we can.

Clark Griswold - National Lampoon's Vacation

If Clark Griswold understood his limitations he’d be fine. It’s not that he thinks he’s brilliant, he thinks he’s normal. The problem is he’s still wrong. Clark Griswold is not your ordinary everyday fool. He’s an entirely unique fool. He’s not trying to do anything particularly special, he just wants to take his family on a nice vacation to Wally World. He’s the "lovable loser" type of idiot. He’s mostly harmless, until he tries to actually accomplish anything. Even the simplest things, like making sure his destination will be open when he gets there, are beyond him.

Navin R. Johnson - The Jerk

He was born a poor black child. From there begins the most epic journey for an idiot ever caught on film. Of course, in his case, Steve Martin's Navin R. Johnson is so stupid that he’s actually brilliant, looking at things in entirely different ways than the rest of the world. That doesn’t mean that he isn’t still a complete dumbass. Although, it’s possible that biggest idiots in the film are actually all the people who listen to him, somehow not realizing, or simply ignoring, the fact that has absolutely no idea what he’s talking about. 

The Hunger Games may be over and done with, at least until Hollywood starts churning out proposed sequels, but there’s still plenty of dystopian young adult action to keep you occupied. The 5th Wave hopes to make a splash at the box office this weekend, but later this year we’ll get a new installment from another ongoing franchise, The Divergent Series: Allegiant, the first part in a two-film finale, and a new trailer just hit the airwaves.

Over the course of the saga, the world of the movies, adapted from the trilogy of novels by Veronica Roth, keeps opening wider and wider, and from the look of this trailer, things are changing in this post-apocalyptic setting like never before.

A key part of the narrative of The Divergent Series is the wall that surrounds a futuristic Chicago, keeping the last remnants of humanity safe and alive, and keeping, well, some mysterious threat on the other side. Allegiant, however, tears down that wall, and what heroine Tris Prior (Shailene Woodley), her hunky boyfriend Four (Theo James), and her other tattooed friends find on the other side is not what they expected at all.

I bet in their wildest dreams they didn’t think they'd run into Jeff Daniels hanging out over there. But there he is, another in a long line of fantastic actors who appear in this saga. Out of all of the YA movies out there, The Divergent Series has consistently managed to put together an impressive array of actors.

After the huge revelations at the end of The Divergent Series: Insurgent—that the wall was really keeping them in, and that the whole faction sorting system they had was just an experiment—it’s time to venture outside and see what’s what. The action finds Tris, Four, and their pals experiencing a brave new world that none of them are prepared for, having never left the city where they were born. In this new environment, fraught will all manner of threats and mysteries, they must decide where their loyalties lie. Eventually a battle ignites that could destroy all of humanity, and Tris will have to make some tough choices about life, love, and many other things.

This installment looks to continue the striking visuals of the last two chapters—though while most of the crazy stuff was confined to dreams or those hallucinatory inner journey things, it looks like Allegiant ramps up things in the real world. They’re cranking up the hard sci-fi vibe quite a bit here, with all kinds of futuristic crafts, those weird bubble things the characters float in, and more. If nothing else, this should be a spectacle to behold

The Divergent Series: Allegiant hits theaters opens March 18, and the saga wraps up with The Divergent Series: Ascendant next year on June 9, 2017. Now let's get to know the cast a little better.

Shailene Woodley

Though she’s only 24-years-old, Shailene Woodley has already been acting professionally since 1999, though it wasn’t until her role in 2011’s The Descendants that she began to break through to a wider audience. Holding her own on screen with George Clooney, she earned a Golden Globe nomination. However, it’s her role as Beatrice "Tris" Prior in The Divergent Series that has been her highest profile part to date, though, outside of that, she fills the time in smaller indie films and more left of center projects.

Theo James

Hunky Brit Theo James is set to return for The Divergent Series: Allegiant and reprise his role as the swoony love interest slash dreamy badass Tobias Eaton, though he goes the by the self-imposed moniker Four. He’s appeared on TV in the likes of Downton Abbey, and though the Divergent movies are his biggest gigs to date, he’s got a lot on his plate, including a return trip to the Underworld movies—he had a small part in the last one and will be back for the upcoming Underworld: Next Generation. And, of course, he’ll show up in the final Divergent movie, Ascendant, next year.

Miles Teller

When you’re putting together a cast of talented young actors on the rise these days, it’s a no-brainer that you’ll want to include Miles Teller on the call sheet. Sure, he fronted the disaster that was the most recent Fantastic Four, but his performances in the likes of The Spectacular Now and, especially, Whiplash, marked him as an actor we need to keep and eye on. He’ll be back as the antagonist-turned-ally Peter, and you just know he’ll have some smart ass quips to deliver in the first part of the final chapter of The Divergent Series.

Jeff Daniels

By far the biggest addition to the cast for The Divergent Series: Allegiant is Jeff Daniels. Any time you add an Emmy and Golden Globe winning actor to your film, it’s a notable occasion. The 61-year-old plays David, who is the head of the Bureau of Genetic Welfare and, in the world outside of the walled-off Chicago, he represents Tris’ greatest enemy. He was also in love with Tris’ mother, played by Ashley Judd, and you just know that he has a personal vendetta that he’s going to use to justify why a powerful older man might go to war with a teenage girl and a bunch of her friends. Daniels is just the latest acclaimed actor to join this saga, as Academy Award winner, and current nominee, Kate Winslet has already shown up to cause a ruckus.

Zoe Kravitz

The daughter of rock star Lenny Kravitz and actress Lisa Bonet, Zoe Kravitz has been carving out her own bit of stardom thanks to roles in movies like X-Men: First Class and Mad Max: Fury Road. In The Divergent Series, she plays Tris’ bestest friend, Christina (What’s a young adult heroine without a BFF?) and she reprises that role in Allegiant. Christina may not be the biggest part in the saga, but she serves a key grounding function.

Naomi Watts

Parents always complicate young love, at least in the movies, and Four’s mom, Evelyn, played by Naomi Watts, is no exception. The leader of the Factionless, she used her son and his girlfriend as pawns to further her own plans and schemes. She didn’t show up until the second movie, but looks to play an even bigger part in The Divergent Series moving forward, and you just know that her manipulative tendencies are sure to kick into overdrive now that the truth of what lies beyond the wall is out.

After a long period of behind-the-scenes ups and downs, Danny Boyle's Steve Jobs has successfully made its way through production. But while the movie isn't coming out until October, today we have our first look at the film in the form of a brand new teaser trailer.

Universal Pictures posted this first look trailer for Steve Jobs, which is pretty short on footage, but does still manage to showcase the movie's impressive cast - mostly through voice-over. It actually reminds me a lot of the first ever trailer for David Fincher's The Social Network - which also largely featured lines of dialogue, albeit over a variety of adjectives instead of a single shot from the film. Then again, this comparison isn't that hard to make when you consider the fact that Aaron Sorkin wrote the scripts for both films.

Of course, while the clip does mostly feature footage of the back of Michael Fassbender's head (it's admittedly a very compelling head), it does also take some quick moments to show off the main players in the bio-drama. Of course, there's Fassbender as the titular character himself:

Next there's Seth Rogen as Steve Wozniak, the computer programmer and electronics engineer who co-founded Apple Computer:

And finally we have Jeff Daniels as John Sculley, who served as the CEO of Apple for a decade, from 1983 to 1993.

Rather than being a simple straight-forward biopic, Steve Jobs will instead be told in three chapters, all of which will be set backstage of three iconic product launches at which the titular company founder presented. It's expected that Fassbender, Rogen, Winsley and Daniels will play the key roles in the film, but the cast also includes Inherent Vice's Katherine Waterston and A Serious Man's Michael Stuhlbarg. The movie is currently in post-production, and will be released by Universal Pictures on October 9th.

If one ever needs proof that the Academy Awards don’t actually define who the most talented people in Hollywood are, one need only look at the long, long list of people that they have ignored over the last century. Legendary actors like Joseph Cotton, Peter Lorre, Kim Novak, Edward G. Robinson and many more not only never won Oscar trophies during their careers, but were never even nominated for a prize. But as shocking as that list is, there are some names of snubbed actors in the modern era that will confuse the hell out of you.

With the 87th annual Academy Awards upon us, we’ve assembled a list of 15 brilliant, currently working actors who amazingly have never been up for Hollywood’s highest honor. Who are the names? Read on to find out!

Steve Buscemi

A big reason why the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award even exists is to celebrate the works of the great character actors working in the movie industry, and yet one of the greatest of all time, Steve Buscemi, has never gotten any attention from the ceremony. This is honestly a rather baffling mystery, as Buscemi’s 30 year career is packed with brilliant titles and collaborations with geniuses like the Coen brothers and Quentin Tarantino, and yet the Oscars have never felt the need to give him consideration. Seriously, how the hell did he not get nominated for Fargo?

Jeff Daniels

In the past few years, Jeff Daniels has found himself finding great awards success thanks to his time on television – winning the 2013 Outstanding Lead Actor Emmy for his performance in Aaron Sorkin’s The Newsroom - but every time the guy has flirted with an Academy Award it has ended in disappointing fashion. He arguably came closest in 2005 with his turn in Noah Baumbach’s The Squid and the Whale, but was ultimately shut out of the final race. That being said, it’s hard to imagine that Daniels will wind up ending his career with a permanent spot on this list – especially when you consider that he is currently working with the likes of Danny Boyle and Ridley Scott on his next two feature film projects.

Isabella Rossellini

Over the course of her 39 year career, Isabella Rossellini has earned acclaim, and hardware from many film organizations, but sadly her performances have never stirred Academy members to the degree that they felt the need to declare her work some of the best in a given year. This is an awful shame given her memorable turns in movies like David Lynch’s Blue Velvet and Peter Weir’s Fearless (which got nominations for Dennis Hopper and Rosie Perez, respectively). Rossellini is certainly one of the most notable Italian imports in modern cinema, and it would be too bad if her big screen career ended before getting her first nod.

Donald Sutherland

At the age of 79, Donald Sutherland is the oldest actor on this list, but that only really serves to amplify just how ridiculous it is that he has never found himself up for an Academy Award. The man’s career is full of brilliant performances in some truly amazing movies – from Ordinary People to MASH to Invasion of the Body Snatchers to Don’t Look Now, but evidently none of these turns really stuck out versus stiff competition in various years. If it doesn’t happen in the next few years for one reason or another, there is definitely a case to be made for him at some point getting a Lifetime Achievement Award.

Jeffrey Wright

Jeffrey Wright’s career started off a bit slow as he was getting his foot in the door in the film industry back in the 1990s, but since the turn of the millennium the guy has proven to be one of the industry’s most talented character actors. In that time, he has found himself in multiple Academy Award nominated films, including Ali, Syriana, and The Ides of March, but has not yet been able to get himself on the Academy’s radar. Of course, just because it hasn’t happened yet doesn’t mean it won’t, and one could easily see it happening as he keeps getting more interesting roles in interesting projects.

Alfred Molina

Thanks to movies like An Education and Frida, Alfred Molina has spent some time within the last 15 years being a part of some awards races, but to this point his work has not yet resulted in a nomination from the Academy Awards. He’s certainly been working with the right people, including directors like Paul Thomas Anderson, Ron Howard, and Kenneth Branagh, but sadly those impressive collaborations have not yet yielded any little golden men for the actor. Fortunately, the guys has rarely taken long breaks between projects, so his big ticket film could be coming at really any point.

Danny Glover

One can fairly easily predict that it will be Danny Glover’s time playing Roger Murtaugh in the Lethal Weapon movies that winds up being his most lasting legacy in the film industry, but it’s still rather surprising that his time starring in movies like Steven Spielberg’s The Color Purple (which got 11 Oscar nominations) and Peter Weir’s Witness (which got eight Oscar nominations and two wins) never resulted in a single nomination for himself. Admittedly, at this point in Glover’s career it sort of seems the time has come and gone, but with the right director and the right script, anything can happen.

Pam Grier

Pam Grier came as close as she’s ever been to an Academy Award nomination when she starred in Quentin Tarantino’s brilliant 1997 crime drama Jackie Brown, but it’s a shame that she’s never actually gone all the way to the show. In addition to being an exceptional actress, she also happens to play an important role in cinematic history through her part in the Blaxploitation movement. Even if she doesn’t end up with another performance in her career that finds her in the awards race, at the very least the Academy should find some way to honor her contributions to cinema.

John Goodman

It’s perhaps an example of the Academy having a bit of a bias against actors who have spent a good portion of their careers on television, but there really is no excuse at this point for John Goodman not to have at least collected an Oscar nomination by this point in his life, if not an actual award. Like the case with Steve Buscemi, Goodman’s work with the Coen brothers alone should have at least resulted in one nod (Barton Fink!), but the guy is equally good in everything he does, and it’s shocking he has not get gotten the consideration he deserves.

Scarlett Johansson

After years as a child actor, Scarlett Johansson got her adult career off to an absolutely stellar start by making films like Lost in Translation and working with Woody Allen on multiple projects, but despite all of the clout she was able to build up, it has not yet resulted in an Oscar nod. Admittedly she has gotten a bit further away from the awards race in recent years due to the fact that she is turning into one of Hollywood’s most popular action hero leads, but the truth is that she’s still putting in award caliber work in smaller films like Her, and because she’s only 30 it’s not hard to see her eventually doing something that really gets the Academy’s attention.

Allison Janney

The fact that she has spent a good portion of her career on television is most likely what’s held Allison Janney back from the Academy Award crowd, but it still feels surprising that she has never at least picked up a nomination. With her warm screen presence as well as her high talent level, you’d think she’d at least find herself getting a Best Supporting Actress nod at some point, but to this point it has not happened yet. The good news is that she’s a very prolific actress who takes on a lot of opportunities, so it’s not hard to believe that we could see the Janney Drought end in the next few years.

Alan Rickman

Alan Rickman has a remarkable fanbase thanks to his legendary work in Die Hard and the Harry Potter series, and while we understand why those titles didn’t get him consideration from the Academy Awards (they’ve never been too big on genre stuff), the truth is that it’s still surprising he hasn’t picked up a nomination at this point in his career. The guy most certainly has the talent, but it just hasn’t translated to this point. Fortunately, all it takes is one spellbinding performance to take him out of qualification for this list, and one can sense that it’s really in the cards for him. It’s just a matter of when.

Meg Ryan

Over the course of his career, Tom Hanks has earned five Academy Award nominations, and has even taken home the Best Actor prize twice… but that really only serves to highlight the fact that his longtime romantic comedy partner, Meg Ryan, has never been up for acting’s highest honor. Thanks to their greater acceptance of comedic films, Ryan has been celebrated by the Golden Globes multiple times – earning nominations for When Harry Met Sally, Sleepless in Seattle and You’ve Got Mail, but none of that attention ever translated to Oscar attention. It’s not too late for Meg Ryan just yet, though if she wants the chance to ever get an Academy Award she should probably start doing more movies.

John Turturro

While Joel and Ethan Coen have picked up numerous Academy Awards for themselves over the years, it’s kind of amazing that they haven’t been able to spread that success to some of their favorite character actors. Yes, like Steve Buscemi and John Goodman, John Turturro is yet another Coen regular who has somehow never managed to find Oscar’s awareness. It’s a real shock just because the guy has done some truly fantastic work in films like Miller’s Crossing, Barton Fink, Quiz Show and Rounders. Hopefully the time and opportunity have not come and gone.

Jennifer Jason Leigh

She may still be remembered by many as the curious Stacy Hamilton in Fast Times At Ridgemont High, but Jennifer Jason Leigh has honestly put together quite an impressive resume in the decades since – albeit one that has not yet been given any notice by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. A lot of her stuff has been more under the radar, but she has been consistently earning acclaim for years in movies like Margot At The Wedding and The Spectacular Now. This year she is playing the lead female role in Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight, so this may actually be her opportunity to finally get her first nomination.

The end credits of Dumb and Dumber To is a nice treat for fans, as those who have spent years loving the adventures of Harry and Lloyd are treated to a fun little trip down memory lane that sees footage from the new movie juxtaposed against footage from the old. Sweet as those moments are, however, the big show comes at the very end of the credits, which features one last big cameo and a semi-ridiculous promise for the future.

For those who didn’t see the movie, allow me to set the scene: Harry (Jeff Daniels) and Lloyd (Jim Carrey) have completed their adventure and are driving along the highway in their personal Zamboni, when we suddenly get a look at the man who is driving the truck behind them… and it’s none other than Cam Neely a.k.a. Sea Bass! That’s right – it turns out that the trucker has spent 20 years looking to get revenge against the guys who threw a salt shaker at him, tried to scam him for a lunch, and left him unconscious in a bathroom stall. It all comes to an end with a very special title card announcing that Dumb and Dumber For will be coming to theaters in 2034, or, in other words, in another 20 years from now.

Those of you who have been following the news in recent weeks know that this isn’t the first time that the idea of a third Dumb and Dumber has come up – though the idea of calling it Dumb and Dumber For is just as genius if not even more so than the name Dumb and Dumber To. Directors Peter and Bobby Farrelly have been saying that if there is further interest in the characters that they would be interested in seeing them come back yet again for another sequel, and the end credits gag is their semi-promise to get the film made in the future. There does appear to be some demand for it, as despite the second movie getting a B- CinemaScore, it also handily took first place in its opening weekend, scoring a nice $38 million.

If Dumb and Dumber For were to happen, what would it actually be about? I’d say that it would be about the revenge of Sea Bass, but I think we can all agree that keeping that chase going for another 20 years might be a tad ridiculous. That aside, Jeff Daniels will be 79 years old in 2034, and Jim Carrey will be 72, and one can imagine that the two actors’ ages would have a considerable impact on how another Dumb and Dumber sequel would operate (presumably it wouldn’t be putting the two men back out on the open road together). We can’t say what shenanigans they’ll get up to, but there is one thing that we can be certain of: the characters won’t change at all.

Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels aren’t exactly Abbott and Costello. But when it comes to the success of the Dumb and Dumber series, you would assume that each was of equal importance to the success of the comedic equation. Well, not exactly – at least, not initially.

In a lengthy conversation with The Hollywood Reporter, Dumb and Dumber To co-directors Peter and Bobby Farrelly have been speaking in interviews about the creation of the original film – which faced a rocky road through production. The siblings claim they had to fight with the studio over multiple factors they wanted in their comedy – starting with the inclusion of Jeff Daniels as Harry Dunne. At the time, the Newsroom star wasn’t exactly a household name. It was his performance in 1986’s Something Wild that caught the Farrelly’s attention. But as the duo recalls, Carrey wanted Daniels following a successful script reading together, and the studio turned him down. Bobby Farrelly recalls:

And the rest, as they say, is history. Were the studio heads wrong? Not exactly. "Comedians," in 1994, were defined by the likes of sitcom stars – from Tim Allen in The Santa Clause to John Goodman in The Flintstones. Jim Carrey did his part to correct that, releasing Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, The Mask and Dumb and Dumber in the same year (!!) But no, studios weren’t willing to take a risk on character actors on the off chance they might be hilarious.

The studio miscalculations also led to Jim Carrey’s massive payday. As the Farrelly’s remember it, the studio initially could have had Carrey in the role of Lloyd Christmas for $400,000. They kept hedging their bets, though, and with each passing week, Ace Ventura kept succeeding – driving up Carrey’s asking price.

In hindsight, you realize that these two had such incredible (and bankable) chemistry that a studio would be wise to hand them a blank check, then wait to see what they come back with. At least, that’s what has led to the sequel, Dumb and Dumber To, which opens in theaters on Friday. Do you think Jeff Daniels earned more money to appear in that one?

Games are becoming a staple on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. Last night, Fallon was able to rope in a slew of important guests for a fun game of “Pyramid,” based on the actual game show of the same name. You can check out Usher, Jeff Daniels, Nick Jonas and Fallon playing the game, below.

During the game, Usher teams up with Jeff Daniels (it also should be noted that the R&B singer is wearing a sparkly horse sweatshirt). Nick Jonas teams up with Jimmy Fallon. The first category chosen is “Get On Your Feet,” which involves Jeff Daniels doing dance moves while Usher guesses. There’s the robot and a few other basics, but for some reason Usher can’t figure out what the hell Jeff Daniels is doing when he attempts to twerk. It’s pretty glorious.

Overall, Daniels and Usher do pretty respectively, but Nick Jonas and Fallon can’t even compete. The late night host incorrectly chooses a gangster-based them and quickly realizes that his 15 year-old compadre has no idea what Scarface or The Usual Suspects is. Just look at the late night host’s pained face.

It’s alright that the round is a disaster, as Fallon and Jonas are able to recoup as the game goes on. They wisely choose moving forward, picking a category of items that rhyme with “green” and another that’s all about famous Bob’s (Dylan, etc., although I wish Evans had been thrown in there for good measure). Usher and Jeff Daniels don’t fare quite so well, picking a musical category that Daniels was not so good at and another category about slimy things that netted them only a decent number of correct responses.

Pyramid is a game show that has cropped up in numerous forms and on numerous networks over the years. The basic premise is that contestants choose categories and answer questions with a partner related to those categories, as is shown in The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon’s version. If there’s anything I’ve learned from watching the show over the years, it’s that choosing the right categories can totally be a game changer, and that was the case with Fallon and Jonas’ later rounds.

Fallon’s a man who is quite fond of games and goofy sketches. In recent months, we’ve seen him embark on a breakdance battle with Brad Pitt, put together an “Ew” music video with will.i.am and had to of the judges from The Voice compete against one another in a lip sync battle. If there’s anything you can say about Fallon, it’s that he’s always got plenty of energy.

If you’ve ever asked Jim Carrey for a quick photograph, then there is a good chance that you ruined his day in the process. The legendary comedy actor has opened up about the pitfalls of being an on-screen icon, and while some people might struggle to relate to his opinion, others will definitely understand where he is coming from.

Alongside his Dumb And Dumber To co-star, Jeff Daniels, Jim Carrey opened up about his hatred of having to take pictures with fans during a discussion with Screen Slam. After declaring that every photo he has ever taken has been "a pain in the ass" Jeff Daniels echoed his remarks by noting that the rise in mobile phones with cameras means that "there is no need to carry a [pen] anymore." The decline of the autograph hunter is something that is seldom brought up nowadays. But that is for another occasion.

Spurred on by this announcement, Jim Carrey went on to explain that the pair "still do it because [they] like people and [they] don’t want to disappoint them," but he then added that they still "hate it." Jeff Daniels then backtracked slightly for him after it was noted that "hate" is a strong word, and it was instead explained that they "dislike it with a vengeance." (That’s better). Jim Carrey then went on to tell an anecdote that appears to be a daily occurrence for him.

To be fair to both Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels, the pair did note that this is just one minor bad-side to being able to work as professional actors for a living. They said that they still adore being creative in front of the camera, and then watching the effect that their work has on audiences. This, however, was slightly spoiled by the fact that Jim Carrey did precede this with the declaration, "Fame is the worst thing that you can do to yourself." Unfortunately for Jim Carrey, there is actually no way around this dilemma. He turned himself into arguably the funniest man of his generation, and now he has to live with the consequences. I’m sure he still gets to sleep at night just fine though.

Jeff Daniels clearly had a great time re-teaming with Jim Carrey for Dumb And Dumber To because the actor has admitted that he would be game to sign up for Dumb And Dumber 3 instantly.

Jeff Daniels made the announcement at the premiere for Dumb And Dumber To on Monday night. After walking down the red-carpet with Jim Carrey in matching Tom Ford power blue and orange suits, Daniels was asked by Variety if he would ever consider returning for another addition to the comedy franchise. And his answer will have fans of the original salivating in anticipation once again.

Jeff Daniels wasn’t the only one who teased that a third Dumb And Dumber film could already be in the pipeline. Peter Farrelly, who alongside his brother, Bobby, wrote and directed the original 1994 comedy and its sequel, also declared his interest in revisiting the characters at a later date too. However he did admit that a potential third film would only happen if Dumb And Dumber To is successful. Said the filmmaker,

The main problem – one would image – is Jim Carrey. It took a number of years to convince the beloved comedian to return for Dumb And Dumber To, and getting him to come back for a third instalment as Lloyd Christmas could prove to be impossible. In June 2012, just under a year after the Farrelly brothers had confirmed that they were planning on making a sequel to Dumb And Dumber, Carrey pulled out. This was because Warner Bros. had shown very little enthusiasm for the film, and he believed that it wouldn’t be given a fair shot by the studio. This then forced Jeff Daniels to withdraw as well, as he would only return as long as Jim Carrey was involved. Ultimately, Warner Bros. decided not to proceed with the picture, and after a little bit of a legal dispute, Red Granite decided to finance the sequel with Universal Pictures distributing. And Jim Carrey found himself on board once again.

Reviews for the film have yet to fully materialize, but each of the trailers and clips for the follow-up indicate that once again Jeff Daniels and Jim Carrey are as delightfully stupid and ridiculous as before. Plus there are plenty of laughs in there that suggest it should be funny enough.

However it turns out you can’t help but raise a smile when you see Jeff Daniels and Jim Carrey in the same shot together. And as long as Dumb And Dumber To is adequate then I’m all for another follow-up.

And there are a handful of things that haven’t changed since the last time Peter and Bobby Farrelly dabbled in Dumb comedy. Because the original movie was such a massive hit, there are notable callbacks that fans can probably see. Some go by so quickly, you almost have to freeze frame the trailer to make sure what you actually saw. Others are references to the initial movie that have progressed, graduated and… well, I want to say "matured," but that’s likely the wrong word to use to describe Dumb and Dumber To. Mary Samsonite

The woman of Lloyd Christmas’s dreams. The beauty so unattainable, he had the slimmest chance of being with her… but he clung to that sliver of hope like a drowning man holding on to a life preserver. Lloyd (Jim Carrey) so loved Mary Samsonite (Lauren Holly) – not her real name – that his quest to return her briefcase was the spine of the initial Dumb and Dumber. And as we can see in this first trailer, Lloyd’s heartbreak over the loss of Mary is the reason why Harry thinks his best friend is in a mental health facility. Only, that’s not the reason at all. Gotcha!

Fraida Felcher

The legendary hose hound from Cranston! Fraida Felcher was mentioned in the first Dumb and Dumber, but never appeared on screen. Harry (Jeff Daniels) recalls an intimate encounter he had with Fraida while he and Lloyd are soaking in the hot tub at the Second Honeymoon Hotel. Fraida worked at a tractor factory, but broke up with Harry shortly after they had sex… sending him a John Deere letter. Well, in Dumb and Dumber To, we get to meet Fraida Felcher, finally, where she’ll be played by Kathleen Turner. Is she really the mother of Harry’s child? Or is this all a bait-and-switch?

The Mutts Cutts Dog Truck

It’s funny to see how little has changed in the world of Dumb and Dumber. Jim Carrey’s wardrobe is virtually the same as what he wore in the first movie. Not the tuxedo, though that might make a welcome return. But his dishwater-grey jacket over the red shirt, all underneath his bowl cut. Also returning? The duo’s dog van, with the floppy ears and the tongue sticking out of the grill. We’re not sure who is driving the van, as it only makes a brief visual snippet in the trailer. And we’re not sure why the vehicle is taking flight. Are the boys being chased by someone? Are they racing to meet someone? We’ll know more in a few more months, but it’s great to know that the Mutts Cutts mobile is back in the picture.

That Awkward Way They Ride a Bike

I couldn’t watch this awkwardly funny shot of Lloyd (Jim Carrey) and Harry (Jeff Daniels) riding a bike without thinking of an hysterical joke from the first movie. It’s supposed to look sexual. And it does! But it’s also a throwback to the characters clinging to each other on the back of that moped that they rode in the first Dumb and Dumber. Remember when they pulled into the chilly Colorado resort town? It was so cold, the snot leaving their noses froze to their faces. And when Lloyd got up, Harry stuck to his back. Well, they are back on a bike. And Lloyd remains the driver, with Harry pulling up the rear. Some jokes don’t get old.

"I Like It A Lot!"

This one is the only (I believe) blatant throwback to the original Dumb and Dumber. Jim Carrey saying "I like it a lot" is a direct quote carried over from the first film. And that reminded me that quotes from comedies ALWAYS used to carry over, and it was kind of like a wink to the audience when they were repeated in the sequels. Carrey, himself, cultivated a few repeat lines in his Ace Ventura sequel, with "Alrighty then!" probably being the most popular. Almost everything that we see in this clip suggest that Lloyd and Harry haven’t changed a whole heck of a lot in the 20 years since we last saw them. Same car. Same wardrobes. Same sad apartment. Same sense of adventure. And the same punchlines? Yes, for now, we like it a lot!

Quick, toss some salt over your shoulder! Twenty years after Dumb & Dumber hit theaters and turned Peter and Bobby Farrelly into stars and Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels into even bigger stars, all involved are back with the aptly named sequel we’d never thought we’d get, Dumb And Dumber To. Proving just how much things have changed since 1994, the upcoming film’s first trailer dropped tonight on the Jimmy Fallon-hosted Tonight Show, but fortunately for fans, the new footage seems to be just as balls to the wall and hilarious as the original offering.

The trailer opens with the gag that’s been spreading around the Internet for months. Harry Dunne is visiting Lloyd Christmas in some kind of home for the mentally challenged. We got a nice little speech about how he’s been coming here for years when suddenly, Lloyd emerges from his catatonic state and proves it was all one elaborate gag. And like that, sentimentality is out the window and the trailer is off and running with ripped out catheters…

And arguably the greatest sight gag I’ve seen in years. Seriously, I don’t know what’s going on in the picture below, but it is hysterical and I’m pissed I just saw it in the trailer. Who invented this disguise? Are one of our heroes under there? Are are they chasing some mad genius who regularly puts together ruses like this? I need to know…

It has to be said that none of the comedy in Dumb & Dumber To feels overly fresh. The trailer seems like it belongs to a film that would have come out during the 1990s, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. You don’t want to tread over the exact same ground in a comedy sequel, but you also don’t want to abandon the basic premise either. Here, that’s two idiots driving a hideous car, ruining everything they touch and making as many dumbass observations as possible.

No word yet if Sea Bass will return for the sequel, but I think I speak for the entire world when I say, I would like that a lot. We’ll know for sure when Dumb & Dumber To hits theaters on November 14. Until then, you can sort through some brand new images from the film here.

Twenty years ago, Dumb And Dumber dropped into the comedy landscape like an atom bomb of stupid. That's not to say the movie was stupid, but let's face it... Lloyd Christmas and Harry Dunne probably only left elementary school on the good graces of a very planned clerical error. Yet that was what made them funny to film going audiences across the world, as their stupidity was only matched by their tolerance for pain and their tenacity to make it to the finish line. It's the movie that solidified Jim Carrey's career, and made Jeff Daniels even more memorable than he was at the time. Now the boys are back in town with Dumb And Dumber To, and we have word on when and where you can get your first look at the continuing adventures of everyone's favorite idiotic duo!

After that quiet Tweet (which was further confirmed by Peter Farelly's official Reddit account), confirmation began springing up that not only is the trailer set for its debut on June 10th, but that two special presenters are going to be on site to break the wind.... er, news, on this one. Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels will be two of the guests on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon next Tuesday night ready to reveal just what they've been up to all of these years (perhaps they will come in character as Harry and Lloyd?). The Farrelly Brothers have been slowly building up steam on this one, and weirdly Jimmy Fallon's show has been a great platform to make announcements about the project. After all, it was Jeff Daniels' announcement on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon last July that started us all down this rabbit hole. It would only seem fitting that the next step in the journey would take place where it all began. As Peter Farrelly explained on his Twitter page,

Dumb And Dumber was the Farrelly Brothers' ticket to comedic stardom back in the early '90s, and some say it's still the greatest crowning achievement in their careers. After a string of hits (There's Something About Mary), flops (The Heartbreak Kid), and underrated successes (The Three Stooges), it'll be a fitting return to see Peter and Bobby return to the world of Harry and Lloyd. Now let's just hope it's a triumphant return worthy of this pair of iconic characters.

Dumb And Dumber To will be dropping your IQ down to a more comfortable level on November 14th, 2014.

Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels are back on set for the long-delayed sequel to their 1994 comedy hit Dumb and Dumber, but there’s something decidedly smart about the behind-the-scenes snapshot Carrey shared on Twitter. That would be double self-promotion.

While it's exciting to see Harry and Lloyd —complete with bad hair and dopey expressions—back in action, Dumb and Dumber To is not the only project Carrey’s selling in this pic. Note the upside-down book How Roland Rolls? That’s not a prop for the movie, it's Carrey’s latest release. As he notes in the caption, this children’s book is now on sale. And from the synopsis, we’re thinking it’s way too deep for this Dumb and Dumber duo even if they were holding it the right way:

Looking over How Roland Rolls Amazon page, I was surprised to see some of the big and unexpected names Carrey got to review the book, from former Amnesty International director Jack Healey to actress/activist Jane Fonda, and noted doctor and holistic healer Deepak Chopra. Of course, as Carrey has shown this past year, we really shouldn’t assume we know what to expect from him. One minute he’s gleefully starring in the ultra-violent Kick-Ass 2, the next he’s denouncing its gun violence and refusing to promote the picture. In this light, promoting a philosophical children’s book while pushing a gross-out comedy for teens and adults makes a certain level of sense. Okay, I kid. This is actually a shrewd business move. I mean, hell, it got this movie site talking about a kid’s book that’s not being made into a movie. Well played, Carrey.

Returning to Dumb and Dumber To, Carrey and the recently Emmy-winning Daniels pick up twenty years after Harry and Lloyd’s crazy trip to Aspen. Bobby and Peter Farrelly are back to direct this second wild road trip tale that has the guys tracking down a long-lost child in hopes of finding a needed kidney donor. Cam Neely, who memorably played the bullying trucker Sea Bass in the first film, will be reprising that role, and Californication’s Kathleen Turner will bring some new heat to the cast playing Fraida Feltcher, an ex of both Harry and Lloyd. As to what else we can expect from Dumb and Dumber To, Daniels just promised that there will be something even more out there than the outrageous toilet scene from the first film, if you can imagine that.

With production underway, Dumb and Dumber To is expected to open in 2014, though Universal Pictures has not yet announced a release date.

As long as there's news, a drama series like The Newsroom should have no shortage of material from which to be inspired. And that's a good thing as The Newsroom is sticking around. Series star Jeff Daniels spread the news this week that The Newsroom will be back for another season.

The Newsroom is currently amidst its second season on HBO, with two episodes to go before things wrap up for the summer. Daniels makes no mention of the episode order for Season 3, but we might expect nine or ten, to mirror the first two seasons. Then again, it could come down to Sorkin's availability. Deadline points out that things were looking good for the series' chances of renewal back in July when HBO programming chief Michael Lombardo told the press at TCA, "Conversations with Aaron Sorkin are all about scheduling as he he has other commitments. If we can figure the scheduling, I will be shocked if you would not be hearing about a renewal soon. The numbers this season are surpassing last season."

So it seems HBO is more than pleased with the dramas ratings, which were have been in the 1.8 million viewer ballpark for most episodes this season.

The Newsroom takes place at a fictional cable news station and focuses on the staff, including Jeff Daniels' Will McAvoy, as they attempt to keep up with the latest news and report it accurately, while also juggling whatever personal entanglements they're currently dealing with. Current event and the ethics of cable news both play key factors in the series, but at its core, The Newsroom is about the characters.

The final two episodes of Season 2 will focus on a pretty major event for a cable news network: Election night!

UPDATE - Deadline reports that HBO responded to Jeff Daniel's tweet with a little less certainty about the state of Season 3. It sounds like they're hoping to get the show renewed, but still working out the scheduling issue: "We are excited about proceeding to a Season 3 and are continuing our conversations with Aaron about schedules.” So at this point, it sounds like this situation isn't quite yet set in stone.

Kathleen Turner, a straight-up screen legend who's also never been afraid to cut loose and make fun of herself, has signed on for, let's be honest, probably the least likely thing you ever expected. According to Variety she'll somehow play a role in Dumb & Dumber To, the comedy sequel that itself seemed incredibly unlikely even months ago. Jeff Daniels and Jim Carrey are reprising their roles as grade-A idiots Harry and Lloyd, and directors Peter and Bobby Farrelly are returning to direct. In terms of sequels arriving years after the original it's got all the necessary ingredients, and adding Turner instead of, say, a Mutt Williams, can't be a bad sign.

Variety doesn't have any details on Turner's character, and even the story itself is still fairly unknown. Filming is set to start in September, but as recently as this June it looked like it wouldn't happen at all, when Warner Bros. dropped the project from their slate despite commitments from Daniels and Carrey to return. Rumor at the time said that Harry and Lloyd once again would travel across the country, but this time in search of a kidney to help out Harry's illegitimate daughter. Since then Universal has picked up the project, with all the important people still attached, but word about it has been scarce-- hopefully because the Farrellys no longer have to bang the drum in public to try and get the project saved, and now have time to actually write it.

So we've got nothing to go off when figuring out how Turner will fit into the story, and that's fine. I'd love to see her return to her sexpot, Jessica Rabbit and Body Heat days by playing a total femme fatale, like Lauren Holly in the original Dumb & Dumber but with nefarious intentions for our heroes. After all, it was just four years ago that she was back in seductress mode for a stint on Californication, playing an over-the-top, foul-mouthed Hollywood executive. Her voice has gotten deeper over the years, but good Lord can she still deliver dialogue with the best of them:

We live in a time when dream projects talked up by various stars for years actually, somehow become a reality. A new season of Arrested Development currently exists. A Veronica Mars movie has started production. A new trailer just dropped for Anchorman 2, a movie that at one point had been completely killed by its studio.

So even though we spent years shrugging off the Farrelly Brothers' suggestions that they wanted to make an honest-to-God Dumb & Dumber sequel, we really should have expected it when it started to become real. But, like Anchorman 2 before it, Dumb & Dumber To had some major hurdles to get past, from Jim Carrey bailing to, most recently, the studio dropping it. Even when that last blow fell it seemed obvious that the film could come back to life, and now, the indefatigable Harry and Lloyd have risen again. According to Peter and Bobby Farrelly themselves, via Twitter, Universal Pictures has come to their rescue:

The Red Granite Pictures in question is a relatively new outfit that has already been behind several starry productions, including the indie comedy Friends With Kids and the upcoming Out of the Furnace, which stars Christian Bale and Casey Affleck. They're also responsible for Martin Scorsese's completely insane-looking The Wolf of Wall Street, which ought to be enough proof that the Red Granite people have good case. Of course, the Dumb & Dumber sequel is likely to be entirely about bad taste, reuniting Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels to act as stupid as possible, and convincing millions of otherwise reasonable people to laugh anyway. I had thought for a while that Dumb & Dumber was the kind of thing people my age liked because we were all kids in 1994 and it was right up our alley. Turns out, it really holds up. The Farrelly Brothers at their best really do know how to make people laugh at the best nonsense.

Rumor had it nearly a year ago that the film would follow Harry and Lloyd on yet another adventure, this time trying to hunt down one of their children who's in need of a kidney. But don't worry-- even though it's 20 years later, "There is no growth out of either one of them." With the wheels on this thing finally, officially moving, we will likely be seeing some casting and a whole lot of other details emerging shortly. It's hard to believe, but Dumb & Dumber To is really going to happen. At least, until the next stumbling block totally destroys it again. One or the other.

We might as well start calling the Dumb and Dumber sequel “Ghostbusters 3” for all the “will they/won’t they” drama involved in making this flick a reality. After Warner Bros. dropped out of the project just yesterday, after months of sitting on the project, it seemed like the rumors might go away for at least a week.

And in no time at all, we may soon get another company stepping into their place, with Red Granite Pictures frontlining the list of possible financiers for Dumb and Dumber To, according to Deadline’s sources. Red Granite was founded only two years ago and has a trio of promising films coming out later in the year, including Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf of Wall Streetwith Leonardo DiCaprio, Scott Cooper’s thriller Out of the Furnace with Christian Bale, and Alexandre Aja’s horror fantasy Horns with Daniel Radcliffe. The projected $35 million budget makes this a modest investment for what will probably be one of the bigger comedies of whatever year it gets released in. Deadline reports around five distributors are ready for snag the domestic rights as soon as someone steps in.

The fact is, the project’s pre-production time would need to get rolling pretty soon so that scheduling won’t collide with Daniels’ killer work on HBO’s The Newsroom, and Carrey will be filming the Jared Hess heist comedy that used to be called Loomis Fargo. And the Farrelly brothers would be…probably directing something middling to terrible. At least there’s definitely a script, and there’s no way on Earth it can be worse than that spinoff piece of shit. So somebody should put their money where their mouth is, so long as their mouth is stuck to a frozen chairlift.

The Dumb and Dumber sequel refuses to die. The latest news comes to us from the Farrelly Brothers’ official Twitter feed, where the co-directors confirmed that the script is “almost done,” while continuing to use the title Dumb and Dumber To.

To what? No idea, but the title in the Tweet is slightly better than Dumb and Dumberer, which the Farrellys say their film has absolutely no connection to. (There’s that word again.)

That’s great news, because it also contradicts old news we had claiming that Carrey was passing on the opportunity to return to the franchise for the further comedic adventures of Lloyd and Harry. At the time, Carrey cited a lack of enthusiasm on the studio’s part for a Dumber sequel. Jeff Daniels suggested not long ago that Carrey would still be willing to make it happen, and it seems he's given the Farrellys the same impression.

Really, no one wants to see a Dumb and Dumber sequel if it doesn’t star Carrey and Jeff Daniels. That would be certain death. Thankfully, if the Tweet can be believed, the Farrellys are writing for Carrey and Daniels, so we’ll hopefully see the duo back in action in the sequel.

But when might we see it? If they are still hammering out the sequel, the earliest that they can film it is 2013, meaning we might see the Dumber sequel in Spring or Summer of 2014. Alright, now we really don't know what to believe about a Dumb & Dumber sequel. The Farrelly Brothers have been hinting at it for years, and earlier this year it seemed to be actually happening, with Jeff Daniels and Jim Carrey both saying they were on board, and the Farrellys promising a September shooting date.

Then the bottom fell out, with Carrey writing a funny but disappointing open letter that criticized Warner Bros. and New Line for not being enthusiastic enough about the project, and saying he had dropped out of th project. But now Daniels, who's busy charming the press at the Television Critics Assocation tour while promoting The Newsroom, has once again given us hope in a project that really seemed totally dead. Talking to Crave Online, Daniels said that Carrey does, in fact, still want to make the movie, and while the September start date is obviously not happening, there's still a lot of enthusiasm to make it happen eventually:

From the sounds of that, Carrey wasn't frustrated with a lack of movement on the project, but movement that was too fast? According to Daniels they were also facing skepticism from the studio about the script, when the Farrellys and the stars were pretty happy with that they had:

So, if you gave up on Dumb & Dumber 2 months ago-- or Dumb & Dumber To as they were calling it-- it's time to revive that hope after all. Are you glad to see that the movie still has life in it? Or did Carrey make the right call when he walked away?

Though he did it with a lot of wit, Jim Carrey broke a lot of hearts yesterday when the issued an announcement saying he'd stepped away from Dumb and Dumber To, the deliberately misspelled title of the sequel he was planning with Jeff Daniels and the Farrelly Brothers, finally reuniting the idiot characters Lloyd Christmas and Harry Dunne for the sequel they'd been talking about for years. Carrey didn't seem to think Warner Bros. and New Line were committed enough to making the project happen, even though the Farrellys had been talking confidently about it for months now-- and after the failure of The Three Stooges, they were probably especially eager to make it happen.

Now Daniels has confirmed what we all pretty much expected: without Carrey, there is no movie. MTV caught him on the red carpet in advance of the premiere of his new HBO series The Newsroom, and Daniels said it simply: "No, nobody's doing it without Jim." To be honest, it's unclear how much Daniels is really upset about the project falling apart. He's done a lot of excellent work in the last decade that seemed to directly counteract his Dumb & Dumber goofball reputation; on The Newsroom, the new show from Aaron Sorkin, Daniels seems to be taking on one of his most challenging roles yet. As beloved as Dumb & Dumber is, wouldn't a sequel have been a step in the wrong direction?

I guess now we never get to find out. You're welcome to share your heartbreak about the death of Dumb and Dumber To in the comments, but right now it looks like no matter how much you cry, this movie is not getting off the ground.

After much hoopla, speculation and in some corners, excitement, it now appears Dumb And Dumber To won’t be happening. Carrey released a statement through his rep this morning confirming the news and citing lack of studio interest in moving forward as his determining factor to bail. Whether that means Warner Brothers and New Line were unwilling to spend the money or dismissive of all the early plot ideas is open to debate, but regardless of the reasoning, without a u-turn, we won’t be seeing any more severed bird heads.

On the one hand, this is horrible news. Carrey and co-star Jeff Daniels were wonderful as Lloyd and Harry, and even twenty years later, the original still has a certain charm about it. There’s something eternal about good-natured ignorance, and if done correctly, Dumb And Dumber To could have easily carried on all the good will and positive momentum earned with the first effort. Plus, the Farrelly Brothers likely would have been well served by returning to material they crushed before.

On the other hand, sequels rarely turn out the way fans would like them to, and whether rationally or irrationally, a certain percentage of moviegoers would have let this effort cloud their esteem of the first film if it wound up being disastrous. Carrey and Daniels both have the clout and power to make different, more original films, and Dumber And Dumber To could have potentially kept them from better projects.

The Newsroom is the new television series from Aaron Sorkin, the creator of the West Wing and Academy Award winner writer of The Social Network. For the first season of the show about the news, HBO has assembled a wonderful group of actors to bring Sorkin's eclectic characters, not to mention his signature quick quips, to life. And to start introducing the rather large ensemble, the network has released these 'character spots' for Jeff Daniels, Emily Mortimer, Sam Waterston and Olivia Munn.

First up is Jeff Daniels' lead anchor Will McAvoy. At the centre of most of the marketing so far, we know that his newsman is in the middle of a crisis of conscience and fed up with feeding the nation fluff pieces. This spot, however, focuses more on his personality and namely the fact that he's not very nice. We also get a brief look at Dev Patel's Neal Sampat, the person in charge of writing Will's blog.

The next spot is for Mortimer's Mackenzie McHale, a multiple Peabody Award winning executive producer and recent hire to run McAvoy's 'News Night.' With a background in war reporting, Mackenzie is ready for combat and oddly optimistic as she tries to turn the fledgling program into something of worth.

The is the first real look at Olivia Munn's Sloan Sabbith, the very attractive and unemotional financial analyst for the news program. When she was cast people were not convinced she'd be up to task but the short snippet has me convinced as I really enjoyed the stoic, no-nonsense portrayal. See what you think.

The last spot introduces Sam Waterston's Charlie Skinner, the president of Atlantis Cable News and essentially everyone's boss. Well, everyone's boss but Jane Fonda. Waterston's Charlie is an idealistic old school newsman and serves as the buffer between News Night and the corporate brass begging for the return of the former fluff. I love the last line.

With so many characters in the large cast still unaccounted for - Jane Fonda, Dev Patel, Alison Pill, John Gallagher Jr. and Thomas Sadoski - can we expect additional spots from HBO? More as the story develops. The Newsroom premieres Sunday, June 24 on HBO.

Pretty good timing. Just as the Aaron Sorkin-penned film Moneyball got its first trailer, more cast members were announced for his upcoming HBO pilot, More as the Story Develops. Sorkin's already a TV legend with Sports Night, The West Wing, and Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip (okay, maybe not the last one...) on his resume, so everyone should be pretty stoked for this new project, and only more so as the news continues to trickle out.

Deadline reports that Broadway actors John Gallagher Jr. and Thomas Sadoski (the former a Tony winner, the latter a nominee) have been cast in the pilot, as well as Josh Pence who co-starred in Sorkin and producer Scott Rudin's The Social Network (he's the guy whose face you never saw). It's great news for Pence, who's been landing some pretty impressive gigs after taking the selfless role in TSN, most notably in Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises. Deadline notes that "Pence will play Rob, senior producer in charge who has been in relationship with Maggie [Alison Pill] for 5 months and starts to become jealous of her budding romance with Jim."

More as the Story Develops features Jeff Daniels in the lead role as a cable news co-anchor dealing with the aftermath of a complete cast and crew exodus. Also already on board are Alison Pill, Olivia Munn, Sam Waterston, and possibly Emily Mortimer. We'll keep you informed more as the...you know.

Just the other day, while announcing Olivia Munn being cast in the Sorkin-HBO pilot tentatively titled More as This Story Develops, we talked about how she never seems to be out of a job for long. And now, according to TVLine, another perennially employed actor, Sam Waterston, is jumping aboard the highly touted new show.

To be fair, he's never out of work because he was on one of the longest running series of all time (Law & Order: Almost Every Version) and therefore will forever bee engrained in my mind as Assistant District Attorney Jack McCoy. In that iconic role he racked up a few SAG and Golden Globes (and let's not forget his amazing turn as Sydney Shanberg in The Killing Fields which earned him an Oscar nom). Not bad.

He joins the previously cast Jeff Daniels, Alison Pill (amazing) and Olivia Munn (and apparently, almost Emily Mortimer?) as Daniels' boss on the fictional cable news show within the show. More as This Story Develops is being produced by Sorkin, Scott Rudin (the two collaborated for last year's The Social Network) and Alan Poul (Six Feet Under).

Olivia Munn is never career-homeless for long. From her rise from G4's Attack of the Show!, to her cameo in Iron Man 2, PLUS a stint on Jon Stewart's The Daily Show, the actress/model/personality hasn't really been unemployed in some time.

Uh, that is, until the cancellation of her NBC sitcom, Perfect Couples earlier this year (which the network replaced with the wildly successful two-episode run of The Paul Riser Show). Don't fret, Munn fans, she has once again found a high-profile gig, this time on HBO.

The Hollywood Reporter has announced that Olivia Munn was just cast in the upcoming and highly anticipated show that marks the return to TV for Academy Award winner (and all-around writing deity) Aaron Sorkin. The show, going by the handle of More as the Story Develops, features Jeff Daniels in the lead role as a cable news co-anchor dealing with the aftermath of a complete cast and crew exodus. THR says that Munn plays "a sexy financial analyst in the drama project." You know, a role that every serious drama needs.

Produced by heavyweights Sorkin (who will also write... obvie), Scott Rudin, and Alan Poul (who may also direct if the pilot gets the go-ahead), this is definitely a show I'll be tracking, and don't worry, I'll keep you informed more as the story develops (ugh, I know).

There’s been a lot of recent buzz about Aaron Sorkin’s newest television project, especially after he nabbed his first Oscar for writing The Social Network, but up until this point, there hasn’t been much discussion on who might topline the HBO series. With megaproducer Scott Rudin on board and premium television fast becoming a completely acceptable medium even for A-list actors, the show should, in theory, have its pick of nearly anyone it wants. Turns out the producers may not need to look for much longer.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, brilliant character actor Jeff Daniels is in serious negotiations to pick up the lead role. Right now, the project is operating under the working title More As The Story Develops, and it centers around the innerworkings of a cable news program. Sorkin himself spent time shadowing several like-genred shows, and with past credits including Sports Night and Studio 60 On The Sunset Strip also depicting backstage television, he seems the perfect man to pen this project.

It used to be if an established actor headed to television, he’d be a shoe-in for end of the year awards based on limited competition. With the likes of Steve Buscemi, William H. Macy, Bill Paxton, Peter Krause and many others regularly working in the medium, that’s hardly the case anymore. Look for Jeff Daniels to officially pick up this role soon and add his name to the list of seasoned professionals doing wonderful work on the small screen.

Back in 1995 Jeff Daniels hosted Saturday Night Live. In one of the skits, entitled Film Beat (you can read the transcript here), Chris Elliot played a a television host interviewing Daniels about his illustrious film career in movies like Speed and Terms of Endearment. In lieu of showing actual clips from these films, however, they instead showed the one scene in Dumb and Dumber where Jeff Daniels has been poisoned with laxatives by Jim Carrey and has an epic bout of diarrhea. As funny as the skit was, it doesn't hold a candle to a blooper made by CNN recently.

Uploaded by user joegerarden, the video starts off fairly typical, with CNN reporting on a situation in London that has allowed universities to start charging students more for tuition. After about 17 seconds of reporting, however, things go quiet and then, without reason, they show the scene mentioned above - and it's absolutely hysterical. Following the clip, the anchor even goes as far as to say, "We didn't just put that on TV did we?" It's unknown why CNN even had the video in question, but it certainly makes for one of the best on-air bloopers that I've seen in a long time.

I've never been big on the color blue. That's not to say I hate the oasis primary; it's had its moments, Captain Planet, the New York Rangers' road jerseys, water, to cite a few, but it lacks the pizzazz of orange, the chutzpah of green, the depth and character of a rich burgundy. This article is my attempt to embrace the blue, find some redemption in its robin's egg ridiculousness. It's my defense of Avatar, a five hundred million dollar obstreperous juggernaut of a film, made by the same dude who brought us Titanic and The Terminator. I can't just write it off solely on account of ill-conceived hue choices. So, let's just roll with it; let's stop questioning the bluey bodaciousness of it all. Jeff Daniels Suits Up In Dumb & Dumber

Outside of Foster's misunderstanding of the word biker in Super Troopers and Vin's leather jacket in My Cousin Vinny, perhaps no one in recent cinematic memory has shown up more inappropriately dressed to a semi-formal engagement than poor hapless Harry Dunne. It's like he legitimately went suit shopping and concluded the only thing better than a baby blue suit would be blue-on-blue with a blue top hat. Somewhere, Tim Gunn just seized thinking about this ludicrous accessorizing. Part cock-sure, part idiocy, it takes a serious pair of stones to make the blue suit sing, and Harry not only convinced himself he looked good, he parlayed the outlandish getup into a faux-date. So, take off that extra pair of gloves and join me in a salute---to the snazziest dresser of them all, Jeff Daniels. May God, and Seabass, have mercy on that complete fucking idiot.

That's a slap in the face to God, to the natural order of things, to Mr. Crayola himself. Well, sir, I must respectfully disagree--at least in this instance. Nightcrawler’s more than just another azure-skinned Hollywood creation. Long before Barack Obama, he showed up at the White House to give the place a little color, literally. Teleporting with reckless abandon through the first two minutes of X2, a painted-up Alan Cumming teleports wildly through the President’s hallowed halls, the only sign of his presence a series of ever spreading clouds of viscous, indigo smoke billowing through the corridors and the echoing BAMF! of his circuslike appearances and disappearances. Before long he takes his fight to the white man in the Oval office, trailing ink blue powder in his wake as he applies his blue foot to the buzz cut heads of the President’s security guards, whirling and leaping a mad blue dervish kicking the ever loving ass of anyone who’s in his way and without the properly marine-tinted skin tones. And you thought electing Obama would bring change. What we really need is a goddamn blue circus freak in a trench coat.

Quick. Here's an easy way to discern whether your significant other is a highly-evolved potential spouse or a complete fucking moron. Rent Watchmen. If she giggles because you can see his penis during the scene where he's isolated and alone on Mars, best break it off now and find someone with at least a hint of deep-seeded maturity. Because, you see, Dr. Manhattan's penis is indicative of so much more. He's a superhero, this colossal machine capable of bending and breaking particles, slowly severing ties with a humanity he no longer understands. It's a beautiful, haunting moment full of complicated, philosophical questions and yes, giant azure penis. Only one of those things is important. If the guy behind 300 can figure out which one matters, your immature idiot of a boyfriend should too. Shame on him if he can't.

Most people seem to think Herman Munster had green skin, probably because he's overtly based off Frankenstein, whose skin is, of course, green. This is a fallacy. Herman Munster is actually blue, and since The Munster's was my favorite Nick At Nite re-run growing up, that hot fact obviously merits inclusion inside this blue-splosion of an essay because I wrote the fucking thing, which means whatever the hell I say goes. I guess I'm like Nixon in that way. If the President does it, it's not illegal because he's the President and Presidents are above the law. If I do it, it's the bee's knees because I'm the author and authors can just type things in a word document and it makes them worthy of consumption. That's the theory behind Creed Thoughts at least. The Blues Brothers, All Of It

Instead of writing a paragraph about how hysterical The Blues Brothers is, I'm just going to give you a detailed outline of the plot. Ready? Two ex-con Blues musicians, coincidentally named Jake and Elwood Blues, are on a mission from God to rapidly earn five thousand dollars in order to save an orphanage run by a Nun who hates swearing. They travel all across greater Chicago in a used police car, reuniting their old band, chain smoking and pissing off the Illinois Nazi Party. The entire police force, led by an Orange Whip-loving John Candy, put out an all points bulletin to stop them, but they disappear into the night like suited Waldo's, conspicuously protected by a series of impromptu music performances by Cab Calloway, Ray Charles and Aretha Franklin. Over thirty cars are destroyed, Princess Leia wields several high-powered grenades and Elwood somehow manages to shatter every piece of glass in an entire mall. Is there anyway in hell a studio would fund this obnoxious pitch today? I miss John Belushi.

Jason Segel's Balls In Forgetting Sarah Marshall

Peter Bretter refused a blowjob, mid-blowjob, which, according to Forgetting Sarah Marshall, makes him like Ghandi, only better because he likes puppets, and even though this sentence has way too many commas, there's quite a bit of truth to it all, maybe. The following statement is a fact: getting a blowjob is awesome. Also, a fact: turning down a blowjob is a major downer on par with a low-level natural disaster or getting a creative answer vetoed in Scattergories. Red Versus Blue In Tron

Normally blue is the color of waterfalls and unfulfilled sexual fantasies but in Tron the good guys have traded in their white hats for Aqua Velva neon. You know who to root for by their black light glow and you know who needs killing because he's lit up like an Amsterdam brothel. Flynn shows up and hangs out with a bunch of other blue dudes who, eventually plot the doom of the reds. Their plan mostly seems to involve shoving a bright blue Frisbee up the top bad guy's ass, and when Tron finally pulls said Frisbee insertion off, the red melts away in a wash of blue lines and blue people and, just because they're good guys and into diversity, they let a little yellow sneak in there too. But let's face it, by the time the movie's over the blues are in charge and the yellows ain't getting any tail.
