While a new vision of one of the most “hellish” comic book heroes is upon us, for many fans, the 2004 Hellboy cast will always be the definitive iteration. Two decades ago, Academy Award-winning writer and director Guillermo del Toro created one of the best non-Marvel or DC-based superhero movies out of Mike Mignola’s Dark Horse comic about a demon who grows up on Earth into a protector of humanity.

Before Jack Kesy takes over the role of the big, red hunter of all things paranormal in the upcoming Hellboy: The Crooked Man – coming to VOD in the U.S. on October 8th, but hitting U.K. theaters September 27th – celebrate the original performance by Ron Perlman. In fact, let’s take a look what the actor and the rest of the Hellboy cast from 2004 have been up to since.

Ron Perlman (Hellboy)

Despite previously expressing interest in doing a Hellboy 3, Ron Perlman would only play the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense’s top agent once more (not counting two animated, direct-to-video movies) in 2008’s Hellboy II: The Golden Army. He would appear in three more Guillermo del Toro movies (Pacific Rim, Nightmare Alley, and 2022’s Pinocchio), reaching a total eight collaborations between them, which also includes the second installment of the Blade movies.

The former Sons of Anarchy cast member is also known for the 2011 film noir movie favorite, Drive, leading the Amazon drama Hand of God, lending his voice to the Transformers: Rise of the Beasts cast as Optimus Primal, and playing a main antagonist in the Poker Face cast. Perlman has a few films in post-production, including Thug and Cottonmouth.

Selma Blair (Liz Sherman)

Hellboy’s love interest, the pyrokinetic Liz, is one of the best-known roles of Selma Blair, in addition to being in the Legally Blonde cast as Vivian Kensington and one of the best ‘90s teen movies, Cruel Intentions. Some of her notable roles since have included Caprice in the NC-17 movie, A Dirty Shame, Kris Jenner in Season 1 of American Crime Story, and the killer Kendall in Mom and Dad with Nicolas Cage.

Her battle with Multiple Sclerosis was documented in the award-winning 2021 documentary, Introducing Selma Blair, but she has been in remission since that year. She has yet to return to acting, but has made appearances on several TV programs, such as when she participated on Dancing with the Stars in Season 31.

Doug Jones (Abe Sapien)

Half-man, half-fish Abe Sapien (also voiced by David Hyde Pierce in 2004’s Hellboy) is one of many creatures Doug Jones has played in a Guillermo del Toro movie, including Fauno in 2006’s Pan’s Labyrinth and The Amphibian Man in the Best Picture Oscar winner, The Shape of Water, from 2017. He has also disappeared into many other roles from great horror movies – such as the Ghoul from 2016's Mike Flanagan movie, Ouija: Origin of Evil – and has worked on Del Toro’s FX series The Strain and What We Do in the Shadows.

More recently, Jones reprised his role from the Hocus Pocus cast as Billy Butcherson in Disney+’s 2022 sequel and played Saru on Star Trek: Discovery from 2017 to 2024. He also played Count Orlok in a 2023 movie that has no connection to Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu remake and, according to Deadline, started filming a thriller called The Weight of Darkness in April 2024.

Rupert Evans (John Myers)

Rupert Evans made his major motion picture debut in Hellboy as John Myers – a B.P.R.D. agent created specifically for the movie as an audience surrogate. He did not return for The Golden Army but would encounter a few odd circumstances in movies like 2014’s The Canal and The Boy from 2016, and as Harry Greenwood on The CW’s reboot of Charmed from 2018 to 2022.

The British actor also had a main role on Amazon’s The Man in the High Castle and guest-starred alongside Netflix’s Bridgerton cast as Edmund Bridgerton in Season 2. Evans can currently be seen on PBS’s six-part crime series, Moonflower Murders, and has a historical drama series in production called Truth & Conviction.

Karel Roden (Grigori Rasputin)

The main antagonist of 2004’s Hellboy is none other than Grigori Rasputin, who was a real-life mystic and faith healer who acquired considerable power and influence from his ties to the Russian Empire. This highly exaggerated depiction of the historical figure is portrayed by Karel Roden, who had previously worked with both Del Toro and Perlman in 2003’s Blade II and starred in Bulletproof Monk the following year.

Also in 2004, the Czech Republic native appeared in the second installment of the Jason Bourne movies (The Bourne Supremacy) and went on to appear in films like 2007’s Mr. Bean’s Holiday, the 2008 Guy Ritchie movie, RocknRolla, and the 2009 horror favorite, Orphan. Roden is also known for TV shows like AMC’s McMafia from 2018 and 2022’s MGM+ original A Spy Among Friends and he has an upcoming Terrence Malick project called The Way of the Wind in post-production.

Brian Steele (Sammael)

Doug Jones is not the only Hellboy cast member known for disappearing into his roles, as it was Brian Steele dressed as Sammael in practical shots of the hellhound. He previously made his debut in the early ‘90s as the titular sasquatch in the sitcom spin-off of Harry and the Hendersons, before playing Kothoga in 1997’s The Relic, Sharkmouth in Men in Black II, and a werewolf in 2003’s Underworld.

His notable creature portrayals since include the T-600 in Terminator Salvation, a couple of the titular aliens from Predators, both a Were-hyena and a Minotaur in Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues, and various creations in Hellboy II. He also played “The Entity” in the recent underrated horror movie, 2020’s The Empty Man, and most recently starred as The Robot in Netflix’s Lost in Space reboot.

Jeffrey Tambor (Thomas Manning)

The director of the B.P.R.D., Thomas Manning, who often butts heads with Hellboy, is played by Jeffrey Tambor. The veteran actor would later voice the father of a “monstrous” woman in 2009’s DreamWorks animated movie, Monsters vs. Aliens and a writer of paranormal stories in the 2011 sci-fi comedy, Paul.

In between his reprising his Emmy-nominated role in the Arrested Development cast in Netflix’s 2013 and 2019 revival seasons, Tambor earned two Emmy Awards for starring in Transparent as middle-aged transgender woman, Maura. Due to allegations of inappropriate behavior on set which the actor has claimed are false, Tambor was fired from the Amazon series in 2017 and his career has since slowed down, with his last major roles being a guest spot on The Orville and the Disney+ original movie, Magic Camp in 2020.

John Hurt (Professor Trevor "Broom" Bruttenholm)

The B.P.R.D’s original director and Hellboy’s adoptive father, Professor “Broom,” is played by John Hurt. The two-time Oscar nominee (for Midnight Express and The Elephant Man) had previously experienced “things that go bump in the night” most notably in one of the best sci-fi movies, 1979’s Alien, in which he, iconically, became the first victim of the chestburster, which he later poked fun at in the spoof movie classic, Spaceballs.

After Hellboy, the English actor starred in more acclaimed comic book movies (including 2005’s V for Vendetta, Hellboy II in an opening flashback, and 2014’s Snowpiercer), the fourth Indiana Jones movie, two more Harry Potter movies as Ollivander, and the masterful spy movie, 2011’s Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. His final acting credit was 2017’s Damascus Cover, before he passed away that year at 77.

There are some who actually argue that one of the best things about 2019’s Hellboy is David Harbour’s performance in the title role. While fans also hope to see good things from Jack Kesy’s work in the upcoming superhero movie, Hellboy: The Crooked Man, as far as I am concerned, the character will always belong to Ron Perlman.

The notion of a TV show going through cast changes for one reason or another isn’t all that unusual. In some cases, an actor might choose to leave a show in order to pursue other opportunities. And, at other times, a character naturally runs their course and is written out, leading to a star being ushered out of a production gracefully. However, there have been a number of instances in which an actor has dramatically exited a popular show for more salacious reasons. And we’re going to talk about a number of those situations.

Mackenzie Phillips (One Day At A Time)

Mackenzie Phillips dealt with substance and alcohol abuse during her tenure on One Day at a Time. As her problems increased and she allegedly became erratic on set, the actress was fired after the fifth season of the Norman Lear-produced sitcom. After voluntarily receiving treatment, Philips was invited back to the series at the start of Season 7. But, as mentioned in her Biography special she was fired one more time early in Season 9.

Delta Burke (Designing Women)

Designing Women cast member Delta Burke, who played breakout character Suzanne Sugarbaker, left the beloved CBS comedy after its fifth season. At the time, Burke was having issues with series creator Linda Bloodworth-Thomason. While appearing on the Glamorous Trash podcast years later, Burke said she and the EP “tried to kill each other” but “survived.” They eventually patched things up and teamed up again for a short-lived spinoff series, Women of the House.

John Amos (Good Times) 

Fans, like myself, would probably argue that Good Times – one of the greatest sitcoms of all time – changed tremendously after John Amos’ James Evans Sr. was written out following Season 3. That creative decision was the result of Amos being incredibly vocal about his frustrations with the direction of the show and even threatening the writers. As the actor explained during an interview, series EP Norman Lear called him up personally to tell him he’d been fired. 

Rob Lowe (The West Wing)

Before he dazzled on Parks and Recreation and after rising to prominence as a “Brat Pack” member, Rob Lowe starred on The West Wing. The show was originally set to center around his character, Sam Seaborn, though the focus shifted early on. Feeling underutilized as time went on, Lowe left the show after four seasons.

Roseanne Barr (Roseanne)

Roseanne Barr’s eponymous ABC sitcom was revived for a tenth season that aired in 2018, and it saw considerable success. Following its renewal, Barr was fired after posting a tweet about former government official Valerie Janet that was condemned as being racist. Her dismissal led to the cancellation of Roseanne and the conception of a spinoff sequel series The Conners.

Janet Hubert (The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air)

Two actresses portrayed Vivian “Aunt Viv” Banks on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, the first being Janet Hubert. By the NBC sitcom’s third season, she and lead actor Will Smith began to butt heads. Both were also dealing with situations in their personal lives. Ultimately, Hubert left Fresh Prince due to getting an unsatisfactory new contract offer and, years later, she and Smith made amends during the show’s 2020 reunion.

Kevin Spacey (House Of Cards)

House of Cards experienced a significant shake-up after Kevin Spacey was accused of being inappropriate towards actor Anthony Rapp while he was still a minor. Netflix eventually cut ties with Spacey and, as a result, he was replaced as the lead of the show by co-star Robin Wright.

Charlie Sheen (Two And A Half Men)

When it comes to an exit from a TV series, few get more dramatic than Charlie Sheen’s departure from Two and a Half Men. During the eighth season of the hit CBS show, he made headlines for partaking in wild parties and even entered rehab. Sheen’s fate was sealed, however, when he made disparaging remarks about series co-creator Chuck Lorre. Men would continue for four more seasons, with Ashton Kutcher taking over as co-lead.

Katherine Heigl (Grey’s Anatomy) 

There are a lot of moving parts to Katherine Heigl’s Grey’s Anatomy exit, but it was truly set in motion after the actress kept her name from Emmy consideration in 2008. Heigl did that because she didn’t think the work she’d done for that particular season was Emmy-worthy. In 2009, the Izzie Stevens actress accused series creator Shonda Rhimes and the producers of initiating long work hours for the cast and crew. And, in 2010, amid Season 6 of the drama series, Rhimes released Heigl from her contract early.

Valerie Harper (Valerie/Valerie’s Family/The Hogan Family)

Amid the second season of Valerie, lead actress Valerie Harper became engaged in a salary dispute with both NBC and production company Lorimar. It was after that season that the Emmy winner was fired, and she ultimately sued both of the aforementioned companies for breach of contract. The series aired for four more seasons – and had two more names. But, ultimately, Harper won her case and was awarded $1.4 million and future show profits.

Robert Downey Jr. (Ally McBeal)

Robert Downey Jr. had experienced a number of personal issues by the time he was cast for Season 4 of Ally McBeal, and they continued throughout his tenure. During that season, he was arrested in November 2000 for drug possession and was taken into custody again under suspicion of being under the influence in Culver City in 2001. With that, Downey was fired from McBeal.

Jeffrey Tambor (Transparent)

In 2017, amid the MeToo Movement, Jeffrey Tambor was accused of inappropriate behavior by his former assistant. Shortly after, one of Tambor’s Transparent co-stars accused him of misconduct as well. Amazon, which had renewed the Emmy-winning dramedy for a fifth and final season, officially fired Tambor in early 2018. His character, who was the lead, was ultimately killed off in the musical series finale special.

Esther Rolle (Good Times)

Esther Rolle took issue with some of the creative decisions made on Good Times, not unlike her co-star, John Amos – who was fired after Season 3 even though Rolle was more publicly vocal about her disdain. Given her discomfort, Rolle left after the fourth season when her contract expired. She did, however, return as a main cast member for the sixth and final season. 

Suzanne Somers (Three’s Company)

Some TV devotees may not be aware that Suzanne Somers exited Three’s Company after five seasons due to a salary dispute with ABC’s execs. Her attempts to renegotiate a new deal proved to be unsuccessful, and her contract was not renewed. Throughout the remainder of the show's run, Somers' Chrissy Snow would be succeeded by two other characters.

Chad Michael Murray (One Tree Hill)

Many were likely surprised when Chad Michael Murray was one of two major stars to exit One Tree Hill ahead of its seventh season. At this point, there’s been no clear reason as to why Murray, who played Lucas Scott parted ways with the show. Some contend that he was ready to leave, but Murray was even recorded saying that the network wanted to drop him to save money.

Lori Loughlin (Fuller House)

Veteran actress Lori Loughlin was starring on Netflix’s Fuller House when she was indicted as part of the 2019 college admissions scandal. In 2020, Loughlin pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit wire and mail fraud and was sentenced to two months in prison. Given her legal woes, Loughlin’s Aunt Becky was excluded from the sitcom’s final season.

Isaiah Washington (Grey’s Anatomy)

It was in October 2006 that Isaiah Washington made headlines after it was reported that during an on-set conflict with Patrick Dempsey, he insulted their fellow Grey’s Anatomy co-star, T.R. Knight, with a homophobic slur. Washington reportedly issued an apology though, by the summer of 2007, his contract with ABC was eliminated after Season 3. Washington did, however, reprise the role for a Season 10 episode.

Thomas Gibson (Criminal Minds)

Criminal Minds fired Thomas Gibson amid production on Season 12. As has been reported, Gibson, who was directing an episode at the time, had a disagreement with the episode’s writer. The scribe was on set at the time and, during an encounter with Gibson, the actor apparently kicked him. Gibson subsequently expressed regret over his actions.

Shannen Doherty (Charmed)

Few TV deaths were more tragic than that of Shannen Doherty’s Prue Halliwell during Charmed’s third season finale. In the years since she departed the show, Doherty has claimed that her on-set tension with co-star Alyssa Milano caused her to be let go. For her part, Milano said she was “sad” that Doherty blamed her for how everything panned out.

Danny Masterson (The Ranch)

While starring on Netflix’s The Ranch, Danny Masterson was investigated by police due to allegations of assault by multiple women. Masterson was soon fired from the series amid production on Season 3 and, in 2023, he was sentenced to prison.

Ruby Rose (Batwoman)

After leading Batwoman for just one season, Ruby Rose exited the Arrowverse show in 2020. The actress initially attributed her decision to the “taxing” nature of heading up a TV show as well as an allergic reaction to the latex in her costume. However, Rose later made claims of an abusive workplace against her ex-co-stars, The CW and more. Warner Bros. TV denied the allegations as did Rose’s former scene partners.

Cindy Williams (Laverne & Shirley)

Laverne & Shirley lost co-lead Cindy Williams early into the show’s eighth and final season. Williams became pregnant early into production and, as she explained to Today, she wouldn’t sign a new contract due to the producers having her work on her due date. So Penny Marshall’s Laverne DeFazio finished out those last episodes without Williams’ Shirley Feeney.

Chevy Chase (Community)

It’s been well documented that Community’s Chevy Chase had creative differences with series creator Dan Harmon over his character, Pierce Hawthorne. While working on Season 4, the veteran funnyman reportedly had an on-set tirade during which he dropped the N-word. Chase departed the show shortly after that.

Daniel Dae Kim (Hawaii Five-0)

Daniel Dae Kim’s exit from CBS’ Hawaii Five-0 reboot after seven seasons came down to a salary dispute with the network. After the news of his departure was reported, Kim himself (who was one of the procedural’s most recognizable stars) addressed the situation, confirming that he and the network couldn’t agree to terms on a new deal.

Lisa Bonet (A Different World)

Cosby Show spinoff A Different World finished its first season on NBC in early 1988 and, afterward, lead actress Lisa Bonet announced her pregnancy with then-husband Lenny Kravitz. The sitcom’s incoming showrunner, Debbie Allen, wanted to keep Bonet on the show and depict her character, Denise Huxtable, as a single mom. But, as Allen explained years later, series creator Bill Cosby preferred that Bonet be dropped from the show.

Columbus Short (Scandal)

After three seasons on ABC’s Scandal, Columbus Short was removed from the cast of the hit drama series. It was during that time that the actor was dealing with personal issues and was even arrested on a domestic violence charge. Short later explained that he was cut due to his struggles with drugs and alcohol.

Gina Carano (The Mandalorian)

MMA fighter-turned-actress Gina Carano established a polarizing social media presence during her two-season stint on The Mandalorian. Among the controversial posts she shared was a message that seemingly compared being a modern-day conservative to being a Jewish person during the Holocaust. Disney and Lucasfilm fired Carano in 2021 ahead of the highly popular Star Wars show’s third season.

Nicollette Sheridan (Desperate Housewives)

Desperate Housewives star Nicollette Sheridan was written out of the show after the show’s fifth season, with her character, Edie Britt, being killed off. Several years later, the actress filed suit against Marc Cherry, the show’s creator and ABC. Sheridan alleged that Cherry assaulted her on the set and that she was fired for reporting it. Cherry provided an account of events and, in time, the harassment claims were thrown and Sheridan was unsuccessful in getting a retrial.

T.R. Knight (Grey’s Anatomy)

In 2009, T.R. Knight – who played Dr. George O’Malley on Grey’s Anatomy – left the show after the fifth season. Knight said his reason for leaving was due to a “breakdown of communication” with series EP Shonda Rhimes, his own decision to come out as gay and more. This also all came a few years after Knight was allegedly insulted with a homophobic slur by ex-co-star Isaiah Washington. 

Hilarie Burton (One Tree Hill)

Much has been said about Hilarie Burton’s exit from One Tree Hill after the sixth season. The most common assertion has been that the Peyton Sawyer actress couldn’t agree with the network on a new deal. Interestingly, while Burton recalled filming her final scene for the show, she noted that while shooting another sequence, a producer announced on set that the show was renewed for Season 7. However, both Burton and co-star Chad Michael Muray were surprised as they apparently hadn’t been offered new deals.

Justin Roiland (Rick And Morty)

Rick and Morty actor and co-creator Justin Roiland was fired from the Adult Swim show in 2023 after it was revealed that he was facing a domestic violence charge and other offenses in court. Roiland’s case was eventually thrown out later that year. However, the animator and voice actor was later accused of assault and messaging underage girls.

John Rhys-Davies (Sliders)

The sci-fi cult classic Sliders lost cast member John Rhys-Davies when the actor opted to depart after three seasons amid other cast changes. Sometime later, Rhys-Davies explained that he left due to conflicts with the writers. The veteran actor later explained that by the time he left the show, the scripts had become “incomprehensible gibberish.”

It's hard to believe Entourage ended its eight-season run so long ago, in 2011 (not counting the less-than-well-recieved movie in 2015). For the length of the show, one thing that kept audiences coming back for more each week was the great celebrity cameos. What started as a trickle in the first season, became a flood towards the end, with big stars always showing up, usually with hilarious results. Here is our list of some of the funniest celebrity cameos on Entourage. 

Mark Wahlberg

It makes sense that Mark Wahlberg would be the first cameo on the show, appearing in the very first episode of Season 1. Entourage was (very) loosely based on his experiences in Hollywood as a young actor, and the Boogie Nights star was a producer of the show. 

David Schwimmer

A great thing about the cameos was that often the celebrities weren't afraid to poke a little fun at themselves. Take, for example, David Schwimmer's spot in the Season 6 episode "Running on E." Schwimmer sits in a pitch meeting with super agent Ari Gold's (Jeremy Piven) team and offer after offer is for the Friends star to play some sort of neurotic character for comedic effect. The frustration for Schwimmer is palpable. 

Peter Dinklage

One of the most common tropes on the show was the stars taking potshots at Ari. Ari was a character we all loved to hate, but it turns out most of the celebrities playing themselves also hated Ari. Peter Dinklage is one of those when he trades barbs with Ari at a party in the Season 2 "Sundance Kids."

John Stamos

John Stamos was the perfect type of celeb to show on Entourage. It was always fun to see how a cameo appearance might just be an opportunity to take down lovable loser Johnny Drama (Kevin Dillon). In a bit of a twist, after getting insulted by Stamos a few times, the two play an epic match of ping pong that ends predicably for Drama in the Season 7 episode "Tequila Sunrise." 

Jeffrey Tambor

Jeffrey Tambor plays a jerk like few others can in Hollywood. When he's playing a fictionalized version of himself being to jerk to his kids, it's comedy gold. Fictional life as a jerk and real life have blurred together for Tambor, but his appearance in Season 6 is still really funny. 

Matt Damon

Matt Damon takes charity very seriously, so his cameo on Entourage, in the Season 6 finale, fits perfectly. It's also a rare time that Vince (Adrian Grenier) is the one getting clowned when he tries to dodge both Damon and Bono into giving money to their charity to help children.  

Val Kilmer

Val Kilmer's guest spot on the show is a little different than most on this list. He doesn't play himself, but the role is so brief – and so funny – that it had to be included. In Season 1, the Top Gun: Maverick star plays a "sherpa" living in a giant house in Beverly Hills like a '60s hippie. 

Snoop Dogg

No one brings joy like Snoop Dogg. There is never a time when people are unhappy to see the legendary rapper show up somewhere on TV and Entourage is no exception. The brief interaction between Snoop, Vince, and Eric (Kevin Connolly), partly highlights the confusion of how to pronounce "Cannes" in the Season 4 episode "The Dream Team."

James Cameron

The Season 2 episode "Sundance Kids" really kicked the cameos on the show into overdrive and one of the best of the whole series is James Cameron. Vince is trying to land a role in his Aquaman movie, so Turtle and Drama try to help (and fail). The best part, though, is Cameron's interaction with a barista (played by This Is Us star Chrissy Metz). 

Tom Brady

Turtle (Jerry Ferrara) is a die-hard New York Giants fan, so when he meets Tom Brady at a charity golf tournament, he does what any self-respecting fan would do, he blows him off and refuses to shake his hand. It's brilliant. 

Martin Scorsese

Entourage proved just how big it was for celeb cameos when none other than Martin Scorsese appeared for a brief scene to offer Vince a role in his fictional The Great Gatsby movie in the finale of Season 5. You know you've made it when Scorsese gets involved. 

Scarlett Johansson

Season 1 ends with a big-time star appearance when the one and only Scarlett Johansson cameos on the phone with Vince, after Eric promises him to land a date with the superstar actress. It works, though it's the last time we'd see Johansson on the show. 

Stan Lee

Comic legend Stan Lee became the king of cameos with his iconic moments in the MCU universe for years, a streak that ended with his death in 2018. It's all too appropriate that we include him on this list, not only due to Lee's status as a cameo-king but because his quick role is just so funny as he can't quite place where he's seen Vince's adult film star girlfriend, Sasha Grey, before.

Lamar Odom

Entourage was replete with professional athletes throughout its run. Lamar Odom shows up pretty early in the show's run, in "An Offer Refused" in Season 2. The cameo is notable because of the way Drama gets obsessed with how men's calves look, including Odom's, which understandably freaks the NBA star out. 

Bono

Bono's appearance in the Season 6 finale is brilliant. He only appears via computer screen, as he's on a video call with Matt Damon and teams up with Damon to gang up on Vince to guilt him into getting on board with their charity. It's vintage Bono, pushing a charity but not taking himself as seriously as the world perceives him to be. 

Bobby Flay

Ari being a jerk to someone isn't a surprise, but Ari being a jerk to Bobby Flay is, pardon the pun, pure gold. Flay is great playing himself as the chef at his own restaurant, one of Ari's favorites, but the two bicker before Flay has had enough in the Season 8 episode "Whiz Kid." 

Sofia Vergara

Sofia Vergara's cameo is notable because she's not playing herself. While she herself is perfect for the role as a Colombian actress auditioning for the movie Medellin, it's funny because of how ridiculous the rest of Vince's team reacts to her. The first episode of Season 2 is one of the most unique, and funniest, of the show's run. 

M. Night Shyamalan

M. Night Shyamalan's appearance in the episode "Sorry, Harvey" in Season 4 is classic Entourage. Playing himself, he's angry at Ari for not reading his latest script and confronts the super agent to call him on it. It's the kind of cameo we've come to expect from this show, a major star fighting with Ari. 

Christina Aguilera

The Season 7 finale, "Lose Yourself" is one of the saddest of the show, for a few reasons. One is Ari throwing a lavish party for his wife to keep her from leaving him complete with Christina Aguilera singing "You Are Beautiful," only to have his wife not show.  Aguilera gets mad at Ari (naturally) and demands his Lakers playoffs tickets to keep performing. 

Adrian Peterson

NFL superstar Adrian Peterson selling a dinosaur skull. Is there anything more that needs to be said? The Season 7 episode "Tequila and Coke" has a great moment poking fun at people investing in fossils, and yes, Nic Cage gets a shout-out. 

Zac Efron

It's no surprise that Ari would be trying to steal a client from another agent, but what makes Zac Efron's cameo on Entourage so funny is his interaction with a fan while on the phone with Ari. A mom using her daughter to get Efron's autograph (and pushing for, um, more) is hilarious. 

Kanye West

Vince and his crew have no problem asking anyone for a favor. Kanye West is the victim of one of the most outlandish requests when they beg him for a ride on his private plane to France, even though Ye is headed for London in "No Cannes Do" from Season 4. The rapper is stunned and doesn't hide it, but still, who can turn down Vince? No one, not even Ye.

David Spade

David Spade is the perfect star for a cameo on Entourage. In his, he's got women on both arms and plays a total jerk. While he's surely not a jerk, he somehow has that public perception, which is what makes the cameo so much fun in the Season 8 episode titled "The Big Bang." Spade is just hilarious. 

Phil Mickelson

Phil Mickelson is clearly a good sport. Despite the show taking a shot at the pro golfer's failure at the 2006 U.S. Open, he later agreed to appear on the show, if only to show up Ari. A chance meeting on the golf course between Mickelson, and Kevin Dillon and Jerry Ferrara, led to the role. Kizmet. 

50 Cent

50 Cent makes one of the briefest cameos on the show, but it's one of the best. When he sees Turtle driving, he pulls up alongside and manages to take Turtle down a notch, despite the fancy ride he's driving in. Turtle has a rough time in his birthday episode, "One Car, Two Car, Red Car, Blue Car," from Season 6.

Aaron Sorkin

Aaron Sorkin's first cameo (he made two) on Entourage came in an episode named after him, "The Sorkin Notes" in Season 6. Sorkin is caught up in some drama in Ari's office that he wants no part of and is hilarious in a rare acting role for the writer and director. Now can we get that West Wing revival starring Sterling K. Brown that Sorkin had an idea for, please?

Dean Cain

Another very brief cameo comes from Dean Cain. The former Superman actor disrupts one of Drama's auditions, which crushes Drama, as he figures there's no one he can compete with Cain for the part. It's vintage Johnny Drama in the Season 6 episode "Scared Straight." It's another moment in which you can't help but feel terrible for Drama. 

Eminem

The Season 7 finale, "Lose Yourself," not only foreshadows Vince's downward spiral, but Eminem's cameo. In one of the lowest moments of Vince's life, he first insults Minka Kelly, then gets into a fistfight with Eminem. It's as sad as it is funny, a line the show walked brilliantly in the episode. 

Alex Rodriguez

How tragic would be to hear that you lost out on a ton of money from former Yankee Alex Rodriguez? That's what happens to Turtle when the shortstop-turned-third-baseman shows up on screen to tell Turtle that the tequila company he once owned a lot of stock in went public after he sold out. Ouch. 

Steve Nash

Poor Steve Nash. The NBA star was at the height of his fame when he was unwittingly cornered by Eric at his manager's office (Scott Caan). Eric dumps all of his girlfriend problems on the Canadian basketball player's feet in the Season 6 episode "Murphy's Lie," and all Nash can do is look stunned. 

Johnny Galecki

Johnny Galecki's role in Entourage was a little more than one cameo, it was more like three cameos over three episodes and he plays a fictionalized version of himself who makes Eric's life hell by dating Eric's ex-girlfriend Sloan (Emmanuelle Chriqui). This version of Galecki is terrible but completely hilarious. 

Jessica Simpson

As Ari tries to protect his client base, he's forced to go hat in hand to a client who's mad at him for not caring when her dog died. Jessica Simpson meets Ari at the door in "Bottoms Up" from Season 7, and in classic Entourage fashion, makes Ari look like the jerk that he is, despite his insincere attempt to gift another dog to Simpson. It sums up everything a great Entourage cameo should be. A big star, an unrepentant Ari, and some choice lines. 

This is a list that could be almost endless, and we didn't even get into the multiple cameos in the Entourage movie, one of which featured Channing Tatum that didn't actually happen. 

The “will they, won’t they” trope refers to when a TV show traces the blossoming romance of two central characters — such as Jim and Pam from the U.S. version of The Office cast or the two original lead Cheers characters, Sam and Diane. But, what about the characters who led a major storyline that involved the end of their relationship and, more specifically, the end of a marriage? We thought we would give some of the most iconic divorced TV characters their due by highlighting our favorites below.

Ross Gellar (Friends)

The ultimate TV divorcee — in sitcoms, at least — is easily Ross Gellar (David Schwimmer), who is splitting from his first wife, Carol, in the Friends pilot. In Season 4, his marriage to Emily Waltham (Helen Baxendale) is ruined during the ceremony because of his oft-debated history with Rachel (Jennifer Aniston), who later becomes his third wife by a drunken mistake in Vegas. 

Joyce Byers (Stranger Things)

Before Joyce Byers (Winona Ryder) and the rest of the Stranger Things cast faced off against Demagorgons and other creatures, she had another monster to contend with: her husband. The selfish, deceitful, and abusive Lonnie (Ross Partridge) did not even care about the disappearance of his own son, Will (Noah Schnapp), in Season 1 of the Netflix sci-fi drama and blamed Joyce, who eventually — and quite thankfully — found romance with longtime friend, Jim Hopper (David Harbour).

Don Draper (Mad Men)

The seemingly picture-perfect union of Don Draper and Betty Hofstadt (Mad Men cast members Jon Hamm and January Jones) came to an end by the AMC period drama’s fourth season after unsuccessful attempts to reconcile amid each other’s affairs. However, it was not the ad executive’s last or even first marriage. Previously, his union with Anna Draper (Melinda Page Hamilton) — widow of the man whose identity he stole — was annulled and he and his third wife, Megan Calvet (Jessica Pare), began to grow apart in the penultimate season.

Reba Hart (Reba)

One of the best country music singers-turned-actors, Reba McEntire, became sitcom royalty with her Golden Globe-nominated performance as the lead of her own comedy on The WB (and, later, The CW). Lasting six seasons, Reba was the story of a Southern single mother of three struggling to maintain a relationship with her ex-husband (played by Christopher Rich) and the woman he left her for (Melissa Peterman). Luckily, as the theme song says, she’s a survivor.

Seong Gi-hun (Squid Game)

In one of the best Netflix TV shows, Squid Game, the central protagonist Seong Gi-hun (Emmy winner Lee Jung-jae) chooses to leave for the deadly tournament after surviving the first round. But, after learning that his daughter is about to move to the United States with his ex-wife and her new husband, which is what convenes him to reenter the games. However, in the Season 1 finale, he ditches his chance to reconnect with his daughter in favor of taking down the tournament, which we will see playing when Season 2 of the South Korean hit premieres.

Frasier Crane (Cheers, Frasier)

On Cheers, Frasier Crane (Kelsey Grammer) meets and eventually weds fellow psychiatrist, Lilith (Bebe Neuwirth). After she left him for another man before later pleading reconciliation, the long-running series ended with their marriage facing an uncertain fate. When Frasier’s self-titled spin-off premiered, it was revealed that he had left for good before packing up for Seattle, where they would sometimes reunite, including on Paramount+’s revival series in 2023.

Toby Flenderson (The Office)

The HR representative at Dunder-Mifflin’s Scranton branch, Toby Flenderson (The Office writer Paul Lieberstein), is divorced — a fact his self-described enemy, branch manager Michael Scott (Steve Carell), often uses to taunt him. Toby and his ex-wife had a daughter named Sasha (Delaney Ruth Farrell), whom we meet in one of the most cringe-worthy episodes of The Office, “Take Your Daughter to Work Day.”

Dorothy Zbornak (The Golden Girls)

What led Dorothy Zbornak (Bea Arthur) to move in with her mother, Sophia (Estelle Getty), Blanche (Rue McClanahan), and Rose (Betty White) is her split from Stan (Herb Edelman). Nonetheless, Dorothy’s ex-husband would remain a recurring staple of The Golden Girls, and the former spouses’ lasting, yet imperfect, affection for one another made for a uniquely charming pair.

Bobby And Pam Ewing (Dallas)

The only thing as captivating as the mystery of who shot J.R. Ewing (Larry Hagman) on Dallas was the marriage of Bobby Ewing (Patrick Duffy) to Pamela (Victoria Principal), who comes from the rival Barnes family. The Romeo and Juliet-style romance which turned many against them was initially the central focus of the primetime soap (one of the most popular TV shows of its time), until the couple ended up turning against each other.

Kirk And Luann Van Houten (The Simpsons)

In Season 3 of The Simpsons, we meet Milhouse’s parents, Kirk (Hank Azaria) — one of the most popular Simpsons characters to enter the series late — and Luann Van Houten (Maggie Roswell). In Season 8 — after a disastrous game of Pictionary at Homer and Marge’s dinner party — the couple called it quits and Kirk’s many efforts to salvage their union — including penning a song called “Can I Borrow a Feeling” — could not redeem it, unfortunately.

Grace Adler (Will & Grace)

Interior designer Grace Adler (Will & Grace cast member Debra Messing) almost got married in the pilot before finally finding her match in Dr. Leo Marcus (Harry Connick, Jr.), until his one-night-stand on a Cambodian Doctors Without Borders assignment ruined things. While they managed to work things out, remarry, and raise their daughter together in the finale, the 2017 revival series (which ignores the previous series’ ender) reveals that Grace, unable to trust Leo for his past mistake, left him again.

Michael And Jane Mancini (Melrose Place)

At the beginning of Melrose Place, the heart and soul of the Beverly Hills, 90210 spin-off was surgeon Michael (Thomas Calabro) and fashion designer Jane Mancini (Josie Bissett). However, by Season 2, Michael’s suddenly villainous transformation — complete with a terrible attitude and adulterous habits — saw the end of the marriage.

Matt Foley (Saturday Night Live)

When Chris Farley’s most famous SNL character, Matt Foley, made his SNL debut — in a beloved sketch written by Bob Odenkirk — the motivational speaker provided three important facts about his life: he is 35, divorced, and lives in a van down by the river. In subsequent editions of the bit, we learn he has actually been married “thrice” and even winds up in jail for failing to pay alimony at one point.

Cleveland Brown (Family Guy)

One of the funniest Family Guy characters, Cleveland Brown (Arif Zahir, who replaced Mike Henry) was married to Loretta (Alex Borstein) until she was caught cheating with Quagmire (Seth MacFarlane). When he got his own spin-off, The Cleveland Show, he reunited with his childhood friend and secret crush, Donna Tubbs (Sanaa Lathan), and his dreams came true when they married.

Larry David (Curb Your Enthusiasm)

After years of putting up with the neurotic and selfish behavior of her husband, Larry David (creator Larry David), the final straw for Cheryl (Cheryl Hines) came late in Curb Your Enthusiasm’s sixth season when he was too preoccupied with a TiVo installer to comfort her during a turbulent flight over the phone. Larry would later attempt a few schemes to win her back, including casting her as the wife of a character he inspired, George Costanza (Jason Alexander), for an in-show Seinfeld cast reunion special. 

Alan Harper (Two And A Half Men)

Initially, the premise of the long-running CBS sitcom, Two and a Half Men, saw Charlie Harper (Charlie Sheen) reluctantly take in his brother, Alan (Jon Cryer), and nephew, Jake (Angus T. Jones), after Alan’s wife, Judith (Marin Hinkle) kicks him out. Alan later meets and marries the young, ditzy Kandi (April Bowlby) in an impromptu ceremony, but she splits with him because of — as it is eventually revealed — their differing opinions on having children… and his ear, nose, and chest hair.

Selina Meyer (Veep)

For, just about, the entire duration of their 12-year marriage, Andrew Meyer (David Pasquesi) cheated on his wife, Selina (Emmy winner Julia Louis-Dreyfus) almost constantly. Still, upon their reunion on Veep — a show Parks and Rec fans will love —  the attraction between them remains strong, which results in some increasingly ridiculous hijinks behind the scenes of Selina’s political career.

Lucious And Cookie Lyon (Empire)

We learn at the beginning of Empire that Lucious Lyon (Terrence Howard) divorced Cookie (Taraji P. Henson) while she was still in prison — kicking off a volatile personal and professional relationship between the music industry magnates upon her release. While they would remarry in Season 4, the sixth and final season began with them separated before, eventually, finalizing their second split.

Maura And Shelly Pfefferman (Transparent)

At the beginning of Amazon’s Emmy-winning dramedy, Transparent, Maura Pfefferman (Jeffrey Tambor) — then known as “Morton” — revealed to her wife, Shelley (Judith Light) that she was transgender, Shelley could not accept this news and opted to split up. Eventually, however, despite a brief chance at rekindling their romance, they prove to be much stronger friends.

Jules Cobb (Cougar Town)

After the series finale, Friends cast member Courteney Cox’s most successful follow-up was an ABC (later TBS) original sitcom called Cougar Town. She played Jules Cobb: a single, forty-something mother to Travis (Dan Byrd) — whom she had with ex-husband, Bobby (Brian Van Holt) — who eventually remarries when she falls for her neighbor, Grayson Ellis (Josh Hopkins).

Lou Grant (The Mary Tyler Moore Show)

One of the first TV characters depicted as a divorcé was Lou Grant, portrayed by the late Ed Asner to multi-Emmy-winning acclaim on The Mary Tyler Moore and on his more dramatic self-titled spin-off. The TV news producer’s marriage to Edie (Priscilla Morrill) ends roughly halfway through the series, but they remain in touch and Lou even attends Edie’s nuptials to Howard Gordon.

Erica Kane (All My Children)

One of the most notorious divorcés in TV history is Erica Kane, played by the legendary Susan Lucci on All My Children. Over the course of four decades on the ABC daytime soap opera, the businesswoman was seen tying the knot a staggering eleven times.

Angela Bower (Who's The Boss?)

Years before Judith Light portrayed a divorcé on Transparent, she played single mother Angela Bower on the hit ABC sitcom, Who’s the Boss? The advertising executive would eventually find love again with her widowed live-in housekeeper, Tony Micelle (Tony Danza).

Rhoda Morgenstern (Rhoda)

When Valerie Harper left the Mary Tyler Moore Show to star in her own spin-off, Rhoda, the title character would meet and marry a divorced man named Joe Gerard (David Groh). Their relationship would only last a couple more years and we discovered much later in a 2000 TV movie called Mary and Rhoda that she found a new French husband named Jean-Pierre Rousseau, but that marriage did not last either.

Niles Crane (Frasier)

Arguably the funniest recurring gag in Frasier is that Niles Crane’s (David Hyde Pierce) wife, Maris, is never once seen — due to the characters’ increasingly bizarre descriptions making her impossible to cast — even after their marriage falls apart in Season 4. Thankfully, Niles would later fall in love with his brother’s housekeeper, Daphne (Jane Leeves).

Angela Martin (The Office)

After her engagement to Andy Bernard (Ed Helms) ends due to her affair with Dwight Schrute (Rainn Wilson), Angela Martin’s (Angela Kinsey) marriage to state senator Robert Lipton (Jack Coleman) ends due to his affair with Oscar Martinez (Oscar Nunez) in the final season of The Office. Soon after, she and Dwight finally and openly admit their love for each other and wed in the series finale, which actually counts as their second after Dwight fooled her into a marriage while she was still engaged to Andy.

Alexis Morrell (Dynasty)

Much of the most intense drama on the long-running primetime soap opera, Dynasty — which was later rebooted for The CW — stemmed from the relationship between former spouses Alexis Morrell (Joan Collins) and Blake Carrington (John Forsyth). The marriage was actually the first of four for the socialite, who also went on to marry Cecil Colby, Dex Dexter, and Sean Rowan.

Bill Dauterive (King Of The Hill)

For all 13 seasons of King of the Hill, Bill Dauterive (voiced by Stephen Root) never quite got over his ex-wife, Leonare (Ellen Barkin). There was a time in Season 5 when he had a chance at finding love again with former Texas governor Ann Richards (voicing herself), which ultimately went nowhere, but was almost ruined by one of Leonare’s schemes.

Mike and Gloria Stivic (All In The Family)

The conservative Archie Bunker (Carroll O’Connor) would constantly butt heads with the more liberal Mike Stivic (future filmmaker Rob Reiner), who was married to his daughter, Gloria. However, by the end of the groundbreaking run of All in the Family, the couple separated. Archie initially assumed it was by Mike’s doing, until Gloria admitted to her own infidelity.

Mr. Big (Sex And The City)

The classic “will they, won’t they” relationship between Carrie Bradshaw (Sex and the City cast lead Sarah Jessica Parker) and John James “Mr. Big” Preston (Chris Noth), would eventually result in marriage (until his death, as revealed in the sequel series, And Just Like That…), which was the entrepreneur’s third. He was previously married to a woman named Barbara and, during a time when he and Carrie were apart, married a younger woman named Natasha (Bridget Moynahan).

Louie (Louie)

Much like in real life, Louis C.K.’s fictionalized version of himself in the acclaimed FX series, Louie, is a divorced comedian. In fact, one of its sharpest elements is its almost tragically hilarious depiction of single parenthood from his perspective.

Henry VIII (The Tudors)

Borrowed straight from the history books, Showtime’s The Tudors incorporates a truly heinous depiction of a marriage ending. Because divorce is against her religion, Catherine (Maria Doyle Kennedy) has her marriage to King Henry VIII (Jonathan Rhys Meyers) annulled due to his obsession with Anne Boleyn (Natalie Dormer). As a result, she is exiled. 

Breaking up is hard to do, but in the case of these divorced characters, it made for great television.

It's (almost) been a decade since Tangled came to theaters. Can you believe it? I'm having trouble wrapping my head around it. The long-in-the-works Rapunzel movie was an expensive, lavish accomplishment, serving as Disney's first entirely CG princess movie. The resulting film was a lovely mix of old and new sensibilities, as it brought a sense of buoyancy and exuberance to its old-fashioned tale that wasn't seen in Disney's prior CG features.

As a result, Tangled paved the way for the likes of Frozen and other Disney hits that fostered the company's rejuvenated creative period throughout the 2010s. With its splendidly vivid visuals, catchy songs, charming characters, and heartfelt storytelling, Tangled was one of Disney's finest and most undervalued modern smashes following Frozen's cultural dominance. Now that 10 years have passed since Tangled swung into theaters, let's find out what the talented voice cast of Disney's Tangled is doing now.

Mandy Moore (Rapunzel)

In the lead role of Rapunzel, Mandy Moore brought a new Disney princess to life in Tangled. The musician-turned-actress started her acting career in 2001 with Dr. Dolittle 2 and The Princess Diaries. Thereafter, she starred in A Walk To Remember, Chasing Liberty, Saved!, Because I Said So, and License to Wed before she took on the lead role in this Disney movie. 

In addition to reprising her role as Rapunzel in Tangled: Before Ever After and Tangled: The Series, both of which aired on Disney Channel, Moore starred in 47 Meters Down, The Darkest Minds, and, most recently, Midway — though her most acclaimed work is found in NBC's This Is Us, for which Moore received Golden Globe and Emmy nominations. Outside of acting, Moore unveiled her latest studio album, Silver Landings, earlier this March. It's her first album in 11 years, following 2009's Amanda Leigh.

Zachary Levi (Flynn Rider)

As Flynn Rider, a swashbuckler with a quick wit and a good bit of charm, Zachary Levi made a charming heartthrob in this Disney animated hit. Once best known for playing the title role in NBC's action-comedy series, Chuck, Zachary Levi has found great success in 2019's DC's superhero comedy, Shazam!, particularly with the actor endearing audiences to this Big-esque comic book adaptation. 

In addition to these two roles, Levi is recognized for his role as Fandral in Thor: The Dark World and Thor: Ragnarok. He also had a reoccurring role in Amazon's The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and prominent roles in Netflix's miniseries, Alias Grace, NBC's Heroes: Reborn, and Telenova. Up next, Levi will star in Kevin Macdonald's Prisoner 760 and he has a role in Richard Linklater's newest animated Netflix movie, Apollo 10 1/2. Additionally, Levi will soon be heard in Star Wars: Detours.

Additionally, outside of his screen work, Zachary Levi has also been seen on the stage, notably with Broadway's 2016 revival of She Loves Me, for which the actor received a Tony nomination. He also appeared in a Broadway production of First Date from 2013 through 2014.

Donna Murphy (Gothel)

As Mother Gothel, the villainous matriarch figure who retains her youth for hundreds of years through the healing properties of a magic flower, Donna Murphy provides an outstanding antagonistic role in Tangled. As a two-time Tony-winning actress for her performances in Passion and The King and I, there's no denying that Murphy is a stage legend. She also received Tony nominations for Wonderful Town, LoveMusik, and The People in the Picture, and she won an Emmy for her role in Lifestories: Families in Crisis. 

Murphy is also known for her roles in Star Trek: Insurrection, Center Stage, The Fountain, The Nanny Diaries, and Spider-Man 2. After Tangled, Murphy starred in The Bourne Legacy, Dark Horse, and Higher Ground, as well as episodes of The Good Wife, Mercy Street, The Blacklist, and Power. She also served as an alternate to Bette Middler during 2017-2018's production of Hello, Dolly!

Brad Garrett (Hook Hand)

As Hook Hand, the feared leader of the Pub Thugs with aspirations of becoming a concert pianist (despite his, well, hooked hand), Brad Garrett's character might seem mean and imposing on the outside, but it becomes apparent that this lug has a softer side hidden underneath his hardened exterior. Best known for his supporting turn on CBS' long-running sitcom, Everybody Loves Raymond, the Emmy-winning TV actor has amassed a substantial career in voice acting, notably with roles in Casper, A Bug's Life, Ratatouille, Finding Nemo, Garfield: The Movie, Up, Christopher Robin, and more. 

On television, Garrett garnered awards consideration for playing Jackie Gleason in Gleason, while he also had starring roles in 'Til Death and How To Live With Your Parents (For The Rest Of Your Life). He also appeared in multiple episodes of FX's Fargo, CBS' The Crazy Ones, and Showtime's I'm Dying Up Here.

Most recently, Brad Garrett was seen in Gloria Bell and heard in Ralph Breaks the Internet. He's currently starring in the ABC sitcom, Single Parents, and provides a supporting role in Showtime's Penny Dreadful: City of Angels. In addition to his acting career, Brad Garrett owns a comedy club in Las Vegas. He is also a professional poker player. Additionally, the actor published a memoir, When the Balls Drop: How I Learned to Get Real and Embrace Life's Second Half, in 2015.

Ron Perlman (Sideburns)

As one half of the menacing thieves known as The Stabbington Brothers, Ron Perlman lent his deep voice to this antagonistic role. As the sibling who does most of the talking, Perlman was given a lot of lines, which explains why Disney ultimately went with a high-profile voice actor for this secondary villain character. 

The Golden Globe-winning actor has nearly 300 acting credits to his name, though he's best known for his work in the Hellboy movies, Sons of Anarchy, The City of Lost Children, Drive, Alien: Resurrection, and the TV series, Beauty and the Beast. He was most recently seen in the drama, The Big Ugly, which came late last month. He also played a leading role in Amazon's Hand of God. Up next, Perlman will appear in Monster Hunter, The Jesuit, This Game's Called Murder, How I Got There, and The Last Victim.

Additionally, Ron Perlman is expected to reunite with Hellboy director Guillermo Del Toro for his newest live-action film, Nightmare Alley. He's also lending his voice to Del Toro's upcoming Netflix animated film, Pinocchio. Outside of acting, Perlman wrote his first book, Easy Street (the Hard Way): A Memoir, alongside co-author Michael Largo, in 2014.

Jeffrey Tambor (Big Nose Thug)

As Big Nose, the romantic thug looking for someone to recognize his inner beauty, Jeffrey Tambor played an idealistic supporting character in Tangled. A veteran actor with a great deal of experience in film and television, Tambor is best known for his work in The Larry Sanders Show, Mr. Mom, Arrested Development, the Hellboy movies, There's Something About Mary, and How the Grinch Stole Christmas, to name a few. 

As a voice actor, Tambor is also known for his prominent role in The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie. Following his performance in Tangled, Tambor has notably been seen in Mr. Popper's Penguins, The Accountant, The Good Wife, Psych, Raising Hope, and The Death of Stalin, as well as heard in Trolls, WordGirl, Archer, China, IL, and Tangled: The Series, though it was through his Emmy-winning performance in Amazon's Transparent that he garnered some of his greatest acclaim.

In 2017, Jeffrey Tambor was accused of sexual misconduct by Van Barnes, his former assistant. He also received accusations from his Transparent co-star, Trace Lysette, and make-up artist Tamara Delbridge, whom he worked with in 2001's Never Again. Following these accusations, Tambor left the Amazon drama series. He was also accused of verbal harassment by Jessica Walter, his Arrested Development co-star, in an interview. Since then, Tambor has only appeared the fifth and final season of Arrested Development. He'll soon be seen in Disney+'s Magic Camp on August 14th. He also plays the voice of God in the animated movie, The Adventures of Drunky.

Richard Kiel (Vlad)

As Vlad, the strongest and most menacing of the Pub Thugs, Richard Kiel voiced a standout role in Tangled. Best known for playing Jaws in the Bond franchise, including The Spy Who Loved Me and Moonraker, the seven-foot-tall actor was always a memorable addition to any movie he starred in, which also included Happy Gilmore, Silver Streak, Cannonball Run II, The Longest Yard, Pale Rider, and Inspector Gadget, in which he lampooned his 007 character. In addition to his acting work, Kiel served as an executive producer and co-writer for 1990's family film, The Giant of Thunder Mountain. 

Sadly, on September 10th, 2014, Kiel passed away from a heart attack. The actor was three days shy of his 75th birthday. He's most certainly missed.

M.C. Gainey (Captain of the Guard)

As the gruff, no-nonsense Captain of the Guard, M.C. Gainey played an ultra-protective character throughout the course of Tangled. A character actor with over 40 years of experience, Gainey has given his talents to a variety of movies and shows throughout the decades, including Time After Time, Happy Days, The A-Team, The Dukes of Hazzard, Starman, Knight Rider, Cheers, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Con Air, Meet the Deedles, The X-Files, Walker, Texas Ranger, Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, Wild Hogs, Club Dread, Sideways, Breakdown, Maron, and Beerfest, though he's likely best known for his character work in Lost. 

After Tangled, Gainey made noteworthy appearances in Django Unchained, Kingdom, The Mentalist, Bosch, and Justified. He was also recently in the comedy-horror film, Bit. He'll soon be seen in Emperor and The Cleaner, and he's expected to star in A24's space-based series, Moonbase 8.

Paul F. Tompkins (Shorty)

As Shorty, the oldest and arguably kookiest member of the Pub Thugs, Paul F. Tompkins received an appropriately small role in Disney's Tangled, but he made the most of his time in this family film. As a comedian, actor, writer, and podcaster, Tompkins is quite prolific in the comedy world. He's known for Mr. Show with Bob and David, Best Week Ever with Paul F. Tompkins, There Will Be Blood, Magnolia, Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny, and The Informant! 

He was most recently seen in Netflix's Between Two Ferns: The Movie, as well as episodes of Brockmire, Criminal Minds, and CBS All Access' The Twilight Zone. Additionally, as a voice actor, Tompkins is heard in Bob's Burgers, Adventure Time, and Netflix's BoJack Horseman. As a podcaster, Tompkins is known for his 200-plus appearances on Comedy Bang Bang, as well as his other Earwolf projects.

Arrested Development has had a run unlike any other show on TV. During its first three seasons on Fox, it seemed like it was threatened with cancellation after every episode, much less at the end of every season. The show’s diehard fans would petition and fight to keep the show going before it was finally canceled permanently.

After it was cancelled, the rumors began almost immediately about Arrested Development being brought back, again. Fans clamored for it, and eventually, to everyone’s delight, the entire cast retuned, this time to Netflix to bring the show back for (at least) two more seasons. Through it all, the Arrested Development cast stayed together, despite many of the members' incredible success outside of the show. Let's take a look at their growth between the series' first and latest seasons.

George-Michael Bluth (Michael Cera)

Probably no character in the Arrested Development cast has changed more than the youngest, George-Michael, played by Michael Cera. In Season 1, he is a wimpy, shy kid that is overwhelmed by his father’s attention and in love with his cousin Maeby. In Season 5, he’s still in love with Maeby and she is still trying to find reasons to make out with him, but he’s more confident and more willing to stand up to his father.

Like the character he plays, Michael Cera has changed a lot too. He was an unknown teen actor when the show began and today, he is a bonafide Hollywood star, starring in huge movies like Superbad, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, and The Lego Batman Movie.

Maeby Funke (Alia Shawkat)

Maeby is the product of a completely dysfunctional (and hilarious) marriage between Lindsay and Tobias. Right from the beginning, she uses this to her advantage to pretty much do whatever she wants. She is smarter than both her parents, which helps a lot. Always a lot more confident than her cousin Michael, eventually she lands herself in jail and then on the run after accidentally getting into a relationship with a high school student.

Alia Shawkat, like most of the Arrested Development cast, has gone to have a great career in between extended Arrested Development hiatuses. She has been in a whole slew of projects in theaters and on TV, in including a guest spot on Transparent with her fellow Arrested Development co-star Jeffrey Tambor. She also took a hilarious turn as Alexander Hamilton on one of the best episodes of Drunk History.

Buster Bluth (Tony Hale)

The youngest of George and Lucille Bluth’s four children, Buster is the runt of the litter in every way. He is the worst kind of mama’s boy with an insanely weird (and funny) relationship with his domineering mother, Lucille. From the beginning of Season 1 right up until his prison breakout in Season 5, Buster is always the victim. He also had a right hand when Arrested Development began, but he lost that long ago.

Tony Hale jumped from one popular and award-winning sitcom, Arrested Development, to another, Veep on HBO. Hale himself has won a couple of Emmys for his portrayal of Gary Walsh, an aide to Julia-Louis-Dreyfus’ character Selina. Lucky for Hale, Gary Walsh still has both hands.

Lindsay Bluth (Portia de Rossi)

In a family full of ridiculous and terrible people, Lindsay Bluth Funke might be the worst, really. She inherited all the narcissism of her mother Lucille and channels it is all the wrong ways. From the beginning, she has thought of herself as righteous do-gooder, but in reality, everything she does, she does for herself. Even in Season 5, as she runs for Congress, she doesn’t at all understand the meaning service and sacrifice, despite claiming to perform both in one way or another.

Australian Portia de Rossi’s resume over the last 16 years has been impressive. She has appeared as a full cast member or a recurring cast member on a number of shows, including Nip/Tuck and Scandal, as well as a handful of movies. In May of 2018, she announced on her wife Ellen DeGenerous’ show that she would be retiring from acting, but added that she would continue to be a part of the Arrested Development cast. Ellen may not be far behind either. It's a testament to how much the show means to fans and the cast alike.

Michael Bluth (Jason Bateman)

The heart of the family and the heart of the ensemble cast, Michael Bluth, played by Jason Bateman, is deep down a family man, and as such he has spent basically the entirety of the show trying to run from his crazy family and have a more normal life. All the way through Season 5, he is trying to run from and save his family in the search for Lucille Austero, or “Lucille 2” as she is often referred, played, of course, by the legendary Liza Minnelli.

Jason Bateman has had one heck of a career. As a child star, he appeared on such classic '80s TV shows as Little House On The Prairie and starred in The Hogan Family. Bateman’s star fell a little in the '90s and he seemed destined to end up in the washed-up child star dustbin, but he has completely resurrected his career in the 21st century, due in large part to his performance in the Arrested Development cast, for which he has won numerous awards. He is current starring in another big Netflix show, Ozark.

Tobias Funke (David Cross)

For a doctor, Tobias Funke, played by David Cross, sure is stupid. He married into the insane Bluth family though Lindsay and is Maeby’s father, but neither Lindsay nor Maeby are very happy with either of those things. He starts the show in Season 1 as a psychiatrist who wants to be an actor. By the end of Season 5, he is pretty much the same. Tobias is the kind of character who drives you mad with his consistently poor decisions in his professional and private life.

David Cross spends most of his time when not in the Arrested Development cast as a standup comedian and provocateur. He launched his career with legendary Mr. Show on HBO. He sometimes seem to go out of his way to be controversial and subversive, but his career keeps humming along with roles on numerous TV shows, like Modern Family, The Increasingly Poor Decision Of Todd Margaret and The Unbreakable Kimmy Schimdt, which is also on Netflix.

Gob Bluth (Will Arnett)

The oldest of Bluth children and in the running for the most spoiled, which is really saying something, Gob, played by Will Arnett, is a jerk. He’s mean to everyone, especially those people that he sees as beneath him, and why wouldn’t he be? Like the guy in the $5000 suit is going to worry about the guy that doesn’t make that much in 3 months, COME ON! Gob spends 5 seasons on the show being absolutely, positively terrible, and even in the end of Season 5, he is still only looking about for himself.

Arrested Development cast member Will Arnett seems to pop up every where. From voicing The Lego Batman Movie's Caped Crusader to seemingly guest starring on every sitcom under the sun, Arnett brings the funny where ever he shows up. His starring role as the voice of BoJack on BoJack Horseman continues his streak of great shows on Netflix.

Lucille Bluth (Jessica Walter)

Lucille Bluth is the most unredeemed character in a show full of terrible people that never come around. She, like her daughter, is an unrepentant narcissist. From the beginning, she has no problem selling out her children for her own good. Even at the end of Season 5, she is still willing to give up on Lindsay’s congressional run when it won’t help her plans to build the wall.

Jessica Walter’s performance on Arrested Development is pitch perfect. Her timing is impeccable and she consistently stands out among the powerhouse cast. Her huge success came a long time in the making. Walter’s career started in film and television way back in 1964 when she appeared on Flipper! While she had steady TV work through five decades, it wasn’t until Arrested Development that she really hit the big time, and it’s been well-deserved.

George Bluth (Jeffery Tambor)

The patriarch of the dysfunctional Bluths, George Bluth, played by comedic legend Jeffery Tambor, is the most cunning of the family, and the most reckless. Like his TV wife, Lucille, he is an unrepentant sociopath who has no problem selling out his family to make a few bucks. He starts Season 1 in jail and never really redeems himself. He ends Season 5 by sabotaging his daughter’s political career.

Like George, actor Jeffery Tambor seems to be in the middle of controversy a lot. Despite winning an Emmy for his performance on Transparent, he left the show after a slew of sexual misconduct charges were leveled against him. He has since been accused of verbally abusing his Arrested Development co-star Jessica Walters. For all his comedic genius, Jeffrey Tambor is also a very controversial figure.

It’s incredible to think that Arrested Development has lasted this long and is as legendary as it is. From being a struggling show constantly threatened with cancelation to becoming a cult-classic with diehard fans everywhere, this incredible years-long run has seen its ups and downs, but deserves to rank among the pantheon of groundbreaking sitcoms. Who knows what the future holds, but don’t bet against it coming back for more in the future.

Arrested Development recently returned to Netflix with a brand new season, but the buzz about Season 5 wasn't all filled with laughs. Ahead of the new release, an interview with the cast was released that revealed Jessica Walter had been quite upset by an incident with Jeffrey Tambor. Tambor allegedly yelled at Walter on set, and Walter teared up when recounting what happened. Netflix cancelled the cast's overseas press tour in the wake of the resulting scandal. Now, Arrested Development creator Mitch Hurwitz has spoken out on the incident, saying this:

Mitch Hurwitz was aware of the incident in which Jeffrey Tambor shouted at Jessica Walter but did not understand just how affected Walter was afterward. Hurwitz wasn't on set himself, and it sounds like the footage from the dailies didn't give an adequate impression of the emotional impact on Walter. Hearing about the problem and seeing bits of it in footage apparently weren't enough for Hurwitz to expect how hurt Walter was in the aftermath. In fact, it seems like Hurwitz wasn't even aware that Tambor reportedly had walked off set when he walked out of the camera's frame.

In his interview with Deadline, Mitch Hurwitz also revealed that he wasn't on stage with the cast as much as he was for the production of previous seasons. According to Hurwitz, he delivered scripts later than intended and wasn't available on set the way the cast would have preferred. His increased absence from set undoubtedly played a part in his misunderstanding of the gravity of Jessica Walter's reaction to Jeffrey Tambor on the day in question. Hurwitz went on in the interview to say this about his feelings in the aftermath of the incident making news:

All things considered, it sounds like Mitch Hurwitz regrets that he was unable to help diffuse the situation on set and come to understand Jessica Walter's feelings. He truly may have had no comprehension that there was an issue at all beyond some slight bickering on set if Walter hadn't spoken up about her feelings regarding her interaction with Jeffrey Tambor while filming the new season of Arrested Development. If the show continues, we can only hope that the working conditions will be comfortable for everybody involved.

After years of waiting, a couple controversies, and a remixed Season 4, the first half of Arrested Development Season 5 is finally here. The question everyone asks now is if it's a return to form for the series, or another polarizing season like Season 4. So far reviews are mixed, with critics reactions ranging from proclaiming the series is back on track to others flat out announcing its derailment. The ones who love it seem convinced the show is back, and are only expecting more from the show's next batch of episodes:

Critics like THR's Tim Goodman appear maintain finding a way to bring the all-star cast together for more episodes again has helped Season 5 greatly. He's not alone, as fans seem to believe Arrested Development's effort to get its cast together for large scenes puts this season over Netflix's previous attempt. Others, like Slashfilm's Chris Evangelista, think combining the cast does little to improve the quality of the series, as he remarked it only becomes apparent the actors might be bored returning to these roles once again:

Arrested Development Season 5 definitely has its haters, but there are also plenty of excited fans. Unfortunately, the show's current score of 71% on Rotten Tomatoes is the lowest rated season by critics to date. Some Netflix subscribers have already begun to throw shade about Season 5 on social media, starting with some issues with the show's continuity and timeline.

Of course, not all negative reactions are that petty. But there does seem to be a dark cloud surrounding Arrested Development due to the controversial accusations involving actor Jeffrey Tambor. In fact, the new season actually makes a joke about Tambor's presence on Transparent, which has definitely raised some eyebrows. While the scene was shot long before the allegations against Tambor surfaced, there are those on Twitter who think it was a bad look for the show to leave the reference in:

Potentially sketchy jokes aside, there are Arrested Development fans who still love Season 5. While you can find plenty of naysayers on Twitter who seem to take issue with the new season, there are fans who are just glad to see the Bluths back in action yet again.

Promotional events for the premiere of Arrested Development Season 5 have been canceled just days before its premiere. The cast was scheduled to do a UK press tour in London this week but released a statement announcing they'll find another time to visit fans overseas. While no explicit reasoning was given for the cancelation, it appears tied a recent New York Times interview which resulted in another scandal involving actor Jeffrey Tambor:

Members of the Arrested Development cast have been put on the spot as of late after Jessica Walter tearfully talked about experiencing verbal harassment by co-star Jeffrey Tambor during a cast interview. Since that article, Jason Bateman and Tony Hale have apologized for their attempts to downplay the situation moments after Walters made the claim, and ETOnline said David Cross expressed regret in for not speaking up on behalf of Walter in the moment. In short, it's become a topic that will likely be broached in every interview with the Arrested Development cast in the near future, which may be why the show has decided to stop its press tour for the time being.

Of course, the Arrested Development scandal is heightened due to the fact that Jeffrey Tambor has already had a very public scandal with another high profile show earlier this year. Tambor was fired from the series Transparent following an investigation of accusations of sexual harassment. Tambor vehemently denied the accusations, and while some in Hollywood have lost projects following these types of scandals, Netflix confirmed Tambor was going to be a part of Arrested Development.

Now, with the news that there was trouble involving Tambor on the show's set so soon after another public scandal of his, it only makes sense the media would seek out answers regarding the situation and how the cast feels about Tambor's actions. Arrested Development's canceling of events just a couple of days before the official premiere of Season 5 shows it's hoping to avoid any more drama that could be brought on by more interviews with its cast. Of course, this is all assuming this cancelation is tied to the scandal, and while it seems like a very small possibility it isn't, there could always be another reason.

In 2013, Netflix debuted the fourth season of Fox's canceled comedy Arrested Development. In the five years since it premiered, a lot has transpired. Now a new season is closer than ever to arriving on Netflix, but one of the questions that have been looming over the upcoming installment is whether actor Jeffrey Tambor would be among those featured. Now that question mark has been replaced with an answer. Netflix has confirmed that Tambor will appear in Season 5 of the series.

The streaming giant had given the go-ahead for Season 5 almost a year ago, when harassment allegations against Jeffrey Tambor had yet to surface. Those allegations ultimately led to him leaving his role on Amazon's critically acclaimed series Transparent back in February. Since the allegations surfaced, Jeffrey Tambor has adamantly denied them and criticized "Amazon's handling" of what he referred to as the "false accusations" against him.

Netflix's announcement about Jeffery Tambor's involvement in Season 5 follows months of speculation that can now be resolved. While Variety's report answers what Netflix's decision on Tambor's status is with Arrested Development, the streaming giant did not include an explanation. In other words, Netflix did not elaborate on how they came to their decision. Only time will tell if that changes.

Like Transparent, Jeffrey Tambor has been with Arrested Development since the series began. Tambor stars as George Bluth Sr. on the comedy. The character's arrest is what helps set off the events of the series. How much he will actually be seen remains a mystery apart from everything else. Some of Season 5 is said to be part-prequel, which means some of the original cast may not appear with the force they have in previous seasons of the series.

Despite all of the conversation that has been focused elsewhere, Jason Bateman has expressed his excitement over Season 5. Not too long ago, he even made a pretty bold pronouncement about the quality of the much anticipated and long-awaited season. At the time, he did not share whether Jeffrey Tambor would be involved in Season 5. One of the details he has shared is that Season 5 will involve a "whodunit" related to the death of Liza Minnelli's character in Season 4.

There is still no premiere date set for Season 5 of Arrested Development. Netflix just released a remixed version of Season 4 to help hold fans over. In November, actor Jeffrey Tambor of Transparent became the latest in an unfortunately long line of powerful men in the media to be accused of sexual misconduct. Just yesterday we found out that Amazon had decided to part ways with Tambor after investigating the claims against him. Now, Tambor is firing back at the streaming service and series creator Jill Soloway over his dismissal. Here's what Tambor had to say.

As you can see from Jeffrey Tambor's words, he clearly feels that the investigation into the allegations made by three women, including his former assistant and Transparent actress Trace Lysette, wasn't handled correctly. According to Tambor, no one ever spoke to him, or anyone at Amazon, about the allegations, and blames "the toxic politicized atmosphere" (which he's spoken about before) of the Transparent set for how the investigation was handled.

Since the allegations were first brought against Tambor, he's maintained his innocence, and continues to do so in the wake of his firing. He also notes that, to him, the "biggest heartbreak" to come out of this situation, is that fact that a show that's come to mean so much to so many people is now "in jeopardy."

While Amazon has not revealed the details of the investigation into the claims against Jeffrey Tambor, sources to Deadline have said that what they found out showed that his conduct "could not be justified or excused under scrutiny."

Tambor will likely continue to defend himself against the claims that were made against him, even with his firing from the show being a done deal. In the meantime, Transparent is still gearing up for Season 5, which is set to debut sometime this year, but we don't know if it will be the show's last season or not. The other main cast members have all stuck with the show, and the writers are currently working on ways to continue the series without Tambor's character.

After allegations surfaced late last year that actor Jeffrey Tambor had sexually harassed three women, those in charge of his Amazon series Transparent launched an investigation. Well, that investigation has finally concluded, and Tambor will not be returning to the drama.

Amazon revealed today that Jeffrey Tambor would not be continuing his Emmy-winning role as Maura Pfefferman on Transparent when the series returns for Season 5. In November of last year, sexual harassment allegations surfaced against Tambor from three women, including his former assistant and transgender actress Van Barnes, Transparent actress Trace Lysette and makeup artist Tamara Delbridge. Tambor vehemently denied the allegations at the time and, just a few days after the first allegations surfaced, issued a statement that made it seem he had left Transparent of his own accord, citing "the politicized atmosphere that seems to have afflicted our set." Another statement issued by a spokesperson of Tambor's later revealed that he hadn't actually made a firm decision to leave the series, but now it appears that Tambor has no choice in the matter.

In a statement to The Wrap about Jeffrey Tambor's exit, Transparent's creator, Jill Soloway, thanked those who have supported the show as well as speaking about how the cast and crew are trying to move on, saying:

Now that Tambor is off of the series, one of the main questions is how it will continue without him. His Maura was the transgender parent that the show's title referred to, and while the series did delve into the stories of other characters in her family, it will be interesting to see how the show removes its former centerpiece from the plot and, then, how the storytelling will be restructured for Season 5.

It's been a harrowing few weeks in the world of entertainment. After Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein was accused of sexual misconduct and promptly fired from both his company and the film Academy, the floodgates really opened. Since then, a gaggle of powerful Hollywood men have been accused of sexual assault and/or harassment, resulting in the halt of production in a variety of projects, as well as internal investigations into the accusations. Actor Jeffrey Tambor is one of the accused, as his former assistant alleges that he was sexually inappropriate while working on the Amazon series Transparent. And now one of the show's cast members has also spoken out again Tambor, transgender actress Trace Lysette.

Following the original allegation against Jeffrey Tambor, actress Trace Lysette took to Twitter to share her own account of Tambor's alleged misconduct. She detailed one altercation where he was physical with Lysette, after being verbally inappropriate a number of times.

What sobering account. Following the original allegations, this is the second alleged incident where Jeffrey Tambor was sexually aggressive towards a transgender woman, while also playing the trans matriarch Maura on Transparent.

Trace Lysette has been a recurring cast member of Transparent since back in its first season. She plays the character Shea, who is one of Maura's (Jeffrey Tambor) trans friends who help her navigate the various issues she faces interpersonally and physically. Shea's role was expanded in later episodes, and she had a romantic plot line with Maura's cisgender and heterosexual son Josh.

Like the original accusation made against him by former assistant Van Barnes, Jeffrey Tambor has denied any wrongdoing by his part, apart from his attitude on set. He made a statement in response to Trace Lysette's claims, saying:

These allegations are especially troubling because both of the accusers are transgender women. Transparent has been praised for its ability to tell authentic stories with trans characters, while also educating viewers about issues the community faces. So these allegations carry even more emotional weight, leaving the future of Transparent in question. Reports indicate that the series may be exploring ways to continue on without Jeffrey Tambor's Maura, an idea that Trace Lysette echoes in her statement.

Fans have clamored for a new Hellboy movie for quite some time, but few expected it to look like what was recently announced. Rather than stick to the existing continuity established by Guillermo del Toro's Hellboy and Hellboy II: The Golden Army, the franchise has opted to completely reboot with The Descent's Neil Marshall behind the camera, and Stranger Things' David Harbour in front of it. As it turns out: that decision doesn't sit well with former Hellboy star Jeffrey Tambor. The Transparent actor recently addressed Hellboy creator Mike Mignola's decision to proceed with a reboot, saying:

The announcement of an R-rated Hellboy reboot without Ron Perlman and Guillermo del Toro is still fresh, and new details continue to pour in, but it seems fairly clear that Jeffrey Tambor isn't pleased with the development. It's no secret that Perlman and del Toro had been trying to get a third Hellboy movie off of the ground for quite some time. In fact, Perlman's social media posts about the newly announced reboot seem to indicate that he was taken fairly off-guard by the revelation that Mignola had opted to switch horses and proceed with a new incarnation of the franchise -- free from his previous collaborators.

It makes plenty of sense for Jeffrey Tambor to go to bat for Perlman and del Toro like this, as he's also one of the biggest names and most memorable characters associated with the original Hellboy franchise. As FBI Director Tom Manning, Tambor consistently provided a sense of comic relief to both of del Toro's films, and his antagonistic chemistry with Perlman always made for some great character moments.

Some fans went on to point out that Mike Mignola does have the authority to do anything he wants with his creation. Still, Jeffrey Tambor seems to think that Ron Perlman and Guillermo del Toro deserve more credit for making the character a popular mainstream property. Tambor addressed that argument, saying,

There's a fair amount of validity to that claim. Hellboy has always felt like a niche property, and while the two previous Hellboy films were never blockbuster smashes on the scale of The Avengers, Ron Perlman and Guillermo del Toro did something genuinely impressive by making the character a critical and commercial success. They're the two biggest names associated with the franchise (at least to mainstream audiences), so it's certainly understandable to see Jeffrey Tambor so frustrated by this turn of events.

Having said that, I'm still incredibly excited to see what Neil Marshall and David Harbour do with this property. Marshall has proven himself more than worthy as a modern master of indie horror in recent years, and David Harbour's turn as Jim Hopper in Netflix's Stranger Things has made him a hot commodity in Hollywood. This won't be your father's Hellboy film, but it still deserves a shot. After all, any Hellboy movie is better than no Hellboy movie, right?

We will have to wait and see what happens as the new Hellboy movie comes together, but it looks like we can assume that Jeffrey Tambor won't return to the franchise anytime soon. For now, check out our 2017 movie premiere guide for more information concerning this year's non-Hellboy releases.

Fans have been talking about Arrested Development Season 5 pretty much since the moment Season 4 hit Netflix. For the past year or so, we've heard hints that a fifth season of the comedy would eventually be getting off the ground, but this week, series lead Jeffrey Tambor straight-up gave us the most concrete piece of information we've gotten about AD so far, mentioning he's supposed to report to work in January. Here's what he had to say on the daytime show Today.

The year 2017 and the month of January are only a short time away at this point, and Jeffrey Tambor's comments seem to indicate that Arrested Development Season 5 is getting off of the ground sooner rather than later. Of course, he doesn't say that filming is starting in January, just that he's supposed to show up for something Arrested Development related, so it could be a while longer before the show actually moves forward. Fingers crossed its sooner rather than later.

One of the big problems that Arrested Development Season 4 faced was figuring out a way to bring back all of the original cast members, who happen to busy with other projects. Currently, Jeffrey Tambor is on Transparent, Will Arnett has BoJack Horseman and a slew of other projects like The Lego Batman Movie, Tony Hale's on Veep, Portia de Rossi has a gig on Scandal, Jessica Walter's on Archer and the other leads like Jason Bateman, Michael Cera and more have a slew of different film and TV projects in the works. In Season 4, the series actually ended up shooting around the actors' schedules so that different characters would be in different scenes together. The result was a little disjointed but not altogether unpleasant, and we would expect something similar this time around.

As recently as a few months ago, creator Mitch Hurwitz was stating that Season 5 was definitely going to happen at Netflix. The only big detail that needed to be worked out was when. At one point, the show was supposed to come together last January, but since then things have been pushed back indefinitely. Now, Jeffrey Tambor indicated on Today that the coming January (2017) is the real date.

We know Hurwitz already has Season 5---otherwise known as the next batch of episodes---already mapped out, but Netflix has yet to confirm Season 5 has gotten off of the ground. As soon as the details get worked out, hopefully we'll be hearing about them. After all, the subscription streaming service has plenty of money right now to devote to an original comedy like this.

For my money, which was all acquired through legal means not tied to selling model houses to Iraqis, Arrested Development is in the top-tier of TV comedies and cemented its place up there from the very beginning. A lot of the laughs come from esteemed actor Jeffrey Tambor, who played the expertly shady patriarch George Bluth, and show creator Mitch Hurwitz puts one of Tambor’s ad-libs in the pilot episode as the best of the show’s run. That’s definitely something to chicken-dance about.

Tambor is the subject of an excellent article over at GQ that highlights the more genius points of his career, and when the subject shifted to the Fox-turned-Netflix comedy, Hurwitz brings up the excellent improvisation that gave the episode one of its best lines. As the cops were arriving at the boat party, Hurwitz gave Tambor a phone and told him to pretend to tell his Bluth Company secretary to get rid of damning documents. And then this:

“Why are you crying?” is such a perfect line that it seems like it should have been written by someone who thought about it for an hour or more. (There’s some kind of math to go along with that assumption, but the equation is in the cooler of evidence.) It’s well-known that the role of George Sr. was supposed to be one of a limited capacity, but Tambor’s stellar performance convinced Hurwitz to further develop the character. (A similar thing happened with David Cross’ Tobias.) And after four seasons of watching the sometimes-jailed, sometimes-free eldest Bluth fight to keep his marriage and family life thriving, the idea of having less Tambor feels like a bigger crime than treason.

Thankfully, we’ll be getting to see a double dose of Tambor’s boundless comedic work in 2016. At the currently ongoing TCA summer event, Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos assured everyone that Season 5 of Arrested Development is definitely in motion, with negotiations underway for all involved. (Scheduling will be the biggest conflict where that’s concerned.) And we’ll also get to see the actor return to his Emmy-nominated role on the Emmy-nominated Amazon series Transparent when Season 3 hits. For now, we’re just waiting patiently for Season 2 to hit the streaming service.

At 71 years old, Tambor is proving that age can have very little to do with how successful one’s career can be. And we can’t wait to see and hear where his improvising will go next.

Ben Affleck has more than a few exciting projects coming down the pike in the next few years, including Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, his own next directorial effort Live By Night, and the newly-announced David Fincher-helmed remake of Strangers on a Train, but there’s another project that you should be looking out for as well. It’s called The Accountant, and it’s in the process of putting together a very impressive cast.

Described as an action-thriller, the new film will star Affleck as a mild-mannered, socially-weird government accountant who moonlights as a highly trained assassin. Warrior’s Gavin O’Connor is helming the movie, and while it sounds as though Affleck’s character will be the central focus of the narrative, he has some pretty great supporting actors backing him up.

The most recent addition to the cast of The Accountant - which is what inspired this little rundown – is none other than the great John Lithgow, who we just saw in blockbuster mode this past fall with an Earth-bound role in Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar. In the movie, according to Deadline, he will be playing Lamar Black, a "tech magnate" working in robotics who seems to actually have some real accounting work for Affleck’s character.

Seemingly playing the film’s lead female role, Anna Kendrick will be bringing her personal brand of frenetic energy and charm to The Accountant. It seems she’ll be teamed up with Affleck for most of the movie, as she’ll be playing a character described by the Daily Mail as being a young accountant who works with the film’s protagonist and winds up getting involved in his deadly shenanigans.

Of course, every hitman needs some sort of mentor/handler who can keep them cool and doll out assignments – and in this case that role will be played by Jeffrey Tambor. It is his responsibility in the story to show the titular character the ropes in the game of assassination and how things really work

Jon Berthal, who first got his big break playing the unstable Shane Walsh on The Walking Dead, has been getting more film work recently in titles like Fury and The Wolf of Wall Street, and The Accountant will take him even further into the big screen world. At this point we don’t know much about his role in the movie, but it has been learned that will be a mercenary. Friend or foe? We don’t know.

Those who enjoy their superheroes on television likely recognize Cynthia Addai-Robinson from her part as Amanda Waller on The CW series Arrow, but The Accountant will be her first feature film since playing "San Francisco Woman" in J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek Into Darkness. Like the case with Bernthal, we’re not entirely sure how she fits into the story just yet, but she will be playing a Treasure Department analyst in the movie.

Finally, there’s J.K. Simmons, the great character actor who has been mentioned in articles all day thanks to the Best Supporting Actor nomination he received for the Academy Awards that was announced this morning. The Accountant is just one of the post-Whiplash roles he’s been picking up recently – having notably up a part in Kong: Skull Island - though at this point we actually no nothing about the role he’s going to play. Maybe it’s a surprise?

The Accountant is in production now, but a release date has not yet been announced.

For anyone who doesn’t think Amazon Studios is capable of producing content as engaging as Netflix’s original series – or anything proper television networks put out there, for that matter – the service’s newest series Transparent will knock those perceptions right out of your minds. Two parts emotionally scattered drama and one part edgy comedy, this is a show that takes what could have been just a gimmicky plotline and spins it into something greater than its parts. Every other Amazon pilot and series now has the challenge of living up to this.

Created by former Six Feet Under writer and United States of Tara showrunner Jill Soloway, Transparent is the story of the Pfefferman family, whose patriarch Morton (Jeffrey Tambor) is finally allowing himself to transition into Maura, the transgender matriarch she always knew she was. As one can imagine, making such a drastic change so late in life takes getting used to; not only for Maura herself, who slowly gains the bravery she needs to face a biased outside world, but also for her three children.

The first to find out is Sarah (Amy Landecker), a mother of two children and the not-so-loving wife of Len (Rob Huebel). Sarah is going through an identity challenge of her own, as she reconnects with her former lesbian lover Tammy (Melora Hardin), who is also in a relationship (with comedienne Tig Notaro). Though she’s a bit stuck inside her own head most of the time, Sarah is the most accepting of Maura’s surprising entrance into her and her siblings’ lives.

Ali, another freebird character played by the resurging Gaby Hoffman, is the wild child of the family. Though she has her own inner demons to deal with, Ali doesn’t let them show in public. She’s the kind of girl who doesn’t mind hitting a bong and inciting a sexual tryst. She also doesn’t mind taking on a posturing goose, but that’s not an everyday occurrence.

And then there’s Josh (Jay Duplass), the most vapid character of the bunch. Employed in the music industry, Josh experiences life largely through his senses instead of his brain. It’s all about what looks good, what sounds good, and in the case of women, what feels good. As you may or may not have guessed by that description, Josh is the offspring that Maura is least ready to share her story with.

While there is some gratuitousness – what TV series these days doesn’t partake in explicitness for its own sake? – Transparent is a delightfully engaging take on acceptance and self-identification. As a straight male, I obviously can’t speak for how the transgender or homosexual communities will react to this material, but I rarely found the episodes to be insulting in any way. Except, of course, when the ne’er-do-wrong public eye stares at Maura in a negative light, but that’s the point of those scenes. Some people are horrible, no matter what the situation, and it’s in how these characters react to the ugliness that they grow as people. (Okay, so calling someone the C-word isn’t necessarily growth.)

The entire cast is superb, especially Tambor, who should get himself ready for an Emmy nomination next year. And we haven’t even talked about the myriad stars who play minor roles. Judith “Who’s the Boss” Light plays Shelly, Maura’s ex-wife and mother of the three kids. Bradley Whitford (The West Wing) plays a transgender “friend” from Maura’s past, while Portlandia’s Carrie Brownstein plays Ali’s best friend. Kathryn Hahn even shows up for several episodes as a rabbi.

If there is one complaint I have for Transparent, it’s that there are only ten episodes to go through before having to separate myself from this family. Seriously, this show needs an audience both large and accepting enough to prove to Amazon that the Pfeffermans' stories aren't over, and to show other networks that stories about transgender people are easily as interesting, if not more so, than yet another cop or hospital drama.

It’s taken decades for gay characters to become mainstays on American television, and the transgender community is making its own recent progress in transitioning from one-off appearances in procedural dramas to fleshed-out regular characters. Of course, it’s usually non-transgender actors playing the roles, which is definitely the case for the upcoming Amazon pilot Transparent, which landed Jeffrey Tambor in the leading role, according to Deadline. Take a few seconds to try and figure out the title’s oh-so-clever pun.

The Transparent pilot will focus on Mort (Tambor), a parent who sits down for a revealing talk with his three adult children, who assume that financial inheritances are involved. Instead, Mort tells them that he’s been leading a secret life as a transgender, which, as you may imagine, turns everyone’s lives upside down. Relationships change, and everyone is forced to look at their lives through a completely different filter. Gabby Hoffman, who stars as the titular character in Sebastián Silva’s Crystal Fairy, has signed on to play Ali, one of Mort’s daughters. The other two children, Sarah and Joshua, have yet to be cast.

Jill Soloway, who wrote and directed the soon-to-release indie Afternoon Delight, is also writing and directing the pilot. Soloway has written and produced for such shows as Six Feet Under, United States of Tara and Grey’s Anatomy. Interestingly, she also worked on a few episodes of Dirty Sexy Money, which featured the first ever primetime role for a transgender character (Carmelita) as actually played by a transgender actress (Candis Cayne).

Tambor is apparently happy with working on non-network television, as this will be his third streaming website series that he’ll be working on in just a year’s time. He of course masterfully returned to his role as the patriarchal George Bluth for the fourth season of Netflix’s Arrested Development. As well, he played the head of a news network in the Amazon pilot Onion News Empire, which hasn’t yet been given a greenlight or a red light. Should Amazon indeed turn Onion News Empire into a full series, Tambor will be in both series. Nothing wrong with that. It’s worth noting he was a part of the unaired series Next Caller for NBC, which filmed four episodes before being cancelled due to disputes with star Dane Cook.

On the film front, Tambor was recently reprised his role as Sid for The Hangover Part III, and will be starring in the comedy drama For Better or Worse and the comedy Trouble Dolls. He’ll also be lending his voice to Kevin Konrad Hanna’s sci-fi animation The Clockwork Girl as well as Henry Selick’s next macabre stop-motion animation The Shadow King.

It’s worth noting that transgender actress Laverne Cox made quite a name for herself last month as Sophia Burset on the Netflix Original series Orange is the New Black, which tactfully handled her relationship with a woman she married while she was still a man. I’ll give Soloway all the credit in the world if she can make Transparent a show that appeals to the masses. Tambor in the lead won’t hurt at all.
