The Real Housewives franchise has grown into a behemoth one over the years, with multiple cities airing at any given point on Bravo (and streaming with a Peacock subscription). Some shows are more popular than others, and The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City is arguably one of the best reality shows on the air. Oscar-winning actress Emma Stone would likely agree, and she went to wild lengths to see Jen Shah in person after her arrest.

I started watching RHOSLC largely thanks to Jen Shah's arrest, which basically happened on camera and resulted in her being sentenced to six years in prison. While Shah was released early, Emma Stone actually was there when she was sentenced. While speaking with W Magazine, the superfan explained how this went down, sharing:

She wasn't kidding about that investment. While I never miss an episode of Salt Lake City, I haven't gone to seek out the women IRL. But that's exactly what Stone did, walking from her home in New York over to the courthouse where Shah was being sentenced back in 2023. Someone let her make a cameo in the reunion, already! After all, Nicki Minaj got to appear on Potomac back in the day.

A big reason why RHOSLC became a hit back in Season 2 was when the feds came to arrest Jen Shah outside of Beauty Lab + Laser. While she fled filming prior to their arrival, the episode was riveting TV, especially the rest of the cast's reaction on the sprinter van. After years of maintaining her innocence Shah eventually plead guilty for charges including defrauding the elderly.

Of course, Emma Stone is a fan of the show as a whole, and not just due to the saga of Jen Shah's legal issues. In the same interview, she went on to give two-season Salt Lake City star Bronwyn Newport a shoutout for her bold fashion choices. She said:

She's not wrong. On top of her wild fashion, Bronwyn has been bringing the drama this season, particularly her conflict with Meredith Marks in the season finale. What's more, the trailer for the three-part reunion showed her admitting she and her husband are officially separated. I have to wonder what Emma Stone has to think about that!

The Real Housewives franchise is a behemoth force in the television world, with a number of different shows airing new episodes at any given time. The franchise has also shifted somewhat to the true crime genre, thanks to legal issues from cast members like Beverly Hills’ Erika Jayne and Salt Lake City’s Jen Shah. And the latter Housewife’s legal team is reportedly dropping her due to a massive unpaid bill. That doesn’t sound very Shah-mazing.

Jen Shah has been making a ton of headlines over the past few years, thanks to her legal issues. She eventually plead guilty to fraud, and has recently begun her prison sentence. But her appeal process might be more difficult without her legal team; Radar is reporting that they’re no longer representing her. Namely because she allegedly failed to pay them a whopping $124k in legal fees.

Of course, it’s not as simple as the lawyers not working with Shah any longer. This change actually had to be signed off on by Judge Stein, who is overseeing the RHOSLC star’s case. But apparently they provided enough information that the motion was granted. So now she’ll presumably have to find a new legal team in the midst of her time spent in prison.

This is potentially a very damaging turn of events for Jen Shah. $124k is a huge sum of money for most people to come up with, let alone from prison. Jobs for inmates offer a notoriously low pay, with that money typically used to purchase items from the commissary. And with Shah no longer able to film The Real Housewives or do appearances, it should be interesting to see if/how she and her family are able to accrue this money.

For those unfamiliar, Jen Shah landed herself in hot water over charges related to defrauding the elderly of their savings. She maintained her innocence throughout the last two seasons of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, before eventually pleading guilty in New York City. She was sentenced to 78 months in prison, or 6.5 years. While she might be hoping to get out earlier for good behavior, Shah will presumably need to find new legal representation first. 

Since she plead guilty, hardcore Bravo fans have been wondering how Jen Shah’s prison time will ultimately affect the future of the Real Housewives of Salt Lake City Her legal issues have been one of the biggest plot lines throughout the last few seasons, while Shah herself was one of the most entertaining characters in the cast. It remains to be seen if/when the show will return to filming, and how the cast will change up now that she’s not there. Meanwhile, her guilty plea is currently a plot line on Ultimate Girls Trip, which features RHOSLC’s Heather Gay and Whitney Rose.

Jen Shah has apparently received some good news, just over a month after she reported to a Texas prison to begin serving a 6.5-year sentence for wire fraud and other charges. The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star’s sentence appears to have been reduced by a full year, according to the federal prison database. This is likely welcome news for the Bravo reality star, who struggled to leave her husband and two sons when she surrendered herself to federal prison. Amidst the news of the shorter sentence, her representative has also shared an update about what Shah has been doing over the past several weeks.

The Federal Bureau of Prisons’ inmate database now lists Jen Shah’s release date as August 30, 2028, which is one year earlier than her original sentence. In addition to the now-5.5-year stint, the Real Housewives alum was ordered to pay $6.5 million in restitution to the victims of a national telemarketing scheme. That portion of her penalty has also already begun, as her representative reported (per People): 

Fans of the Bravo star are surely glad to hear that Jen Shah is reportedly doing well in prison. Journal entries shared to her Instagram account by her husband Sharrieff Shah detailed how distraught she was when she reported to Bryan Federal Prison Camp in Bryan, Texas, on February 17. She detailed having an anxiety attack and asking her husband to pull over so she could FaceTime her older son. 

Her most recent update was posted two weeks ago, but Sharrieff Shah had explained that since mail in and out of the facility is monitored, it can take some time to receive letters from Jen Shah. He also said that she struggled to find the motivation to share what she was going through. 

The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City viewers have watched Jen Shah’s legal drama play out over Seasons 2 and 3 of the Bravo reality show, with the feds even showing up to a venue where the cast was filming. After her initial arrest in March 2021 on charges of conspiring to commit wire fraud and money laundering through a telemarketing scheme, Shah staunchly maintained her innocence, trying several times to get the charges against her dismissed.

Then, a week before she was set to stand trial, Jen Shah surprisingly reversed course and pleaded guilty, with a plea agreement that included a suggested prison sentence of 11-14 years. The six-and-a-half-year sentence, while still a lengthy one, was much shorter than she could have faced, and now that’s apparently been reduced another year.

The reality star has since distanced herself from the Real Housewives franchise, pulling out of the RHOSLC Season 3 reunion and also declining a one-on-one interview with Andy Cohen earlier this year — both of which she addressed in statements on her Instagram account. You can watch it all play out, with the first three seasons of the Bravo show available for streaming with a Peacock subscription. 

Jen Shah is currently serving her long stint in prison for charges related to wire fraud but is delivering messages to the outside world via social media. A recent update from The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star arrived via her Instagram page and detailed what it was like to surrender herself to a federal prison. 

Jen Shah documented her perspective of what went down the day of her surrender, which was later shared in an Instagram post. Take a look at what she wrote below, which detailed what was going through her mind as she drove with her husband "Coach" Sharrieff Shah and youngest son Omar to surrender herself at the Bryan Federal Prison Camp for her six-and-a-half-year sentence: 

Jen Shah's oldest son, Sharieff Jr., was not present when she surrendered herself to custody but was finally able to connect with her once his father pulled over. It doesn't sound like Shah had the easiest time coming to grips with what was happening, though I'm sure that's to be expected of anyone who goes through the process of reporting to prison, knowing it'll be years before they're allowed to leave and be free. 

Perhaps then it should be no surprise that Jen Shah shared her feelings as the car drove closer to the prison, when it set in that she'd have to spend significant time apart from her family for the foreseeable future:

It would undoubtedly be tough for any loving parent to imagine being split away from their child, no matter how old that child is, especially knowing it'll be that way for years. It's also not hard to imagine how surreal that situation may feel, considering few people likely expect that they'll face significant prison time in their lives. 

The entry continued with Jen Shah's memory of what occurred when she arrived at the federal prison. Shah detailed her final moments with her youngest son and husband before her official surrender, and what was going through her head during those moments:

In a separate post in which he read his wife's journal entry, Sharrieff Shah explained the reason it had taken so long for her followers to hear from The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star after she reported to prison. "Coach" explained that all writings that travel in and out of a federal prison must be reviewed. As such, it can take a while for messages to travel back and forth, which was part of the reason for the delay. 

Sharrieff Shah also noted that while messages can take time to travel back and forth, Jen Shah struggled to find the motivation to write her experience down and share what she was going through. He explained in the video that he was finally able to convince her to write if he promised to share the experience with her followers. Shah made good on his promise, so it's possible these journal entries could continue for some time. 

As mentioned, Jen Shah is serving over six years in federal prison after she pled guilty to charges that involved a telemarketing scheme that ended up taking thousands of dollars from the elderly. Shah's actions and trial were in the spotlight thanks to her role on The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City, and her crimes became a talking point on shows like The View and elsewhere. News on Shah might die down now that she's behind bars, though we can only wait and see. 

The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City isn't releasing new episodes right now, but anyone with a Peacock Premium subscription can watch the series so far right now. It seems like the show will have to go without Jen Shah for a while, though that might be for the best, considering her rep's clap back at Andy Cohen's recent allegations about Shah.

Season 3 of The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City recently wrapped up its run on Bravo, which featured Jen Shah maintaining that she was innocent of her crimes. A big plot line was also Heather Gay’s mysterious black eye, with Andy Cohen recently saying on Watch What Happens Live that he believes Shah could be responsible. Her rep responded to these claims in Lifestyle Magazine, just as Shah was heading to prison. They claimed that Jen was focusing on her family instead of Cohen’s words, with the statement also reading:

Well, there you have it. While Jen Shah and her family are no doubt going through a super trying time as they transition into their new normal, the RHOSLC star was careful to issue a quick clap back to Andy Cohen on her way to prison. Honestly, this is exactly the type of behavior that we might expect from a Housewife. 

Jen Shah’s rep didn’t expressly address the idea that she was responsible for Heather Gay’s black eye, but instead took aim at Andy Cohen himself. It referenced her noticeable absence from the Salt Lake City reunion, as well as a 1:1 interview with Cohen that was announced and promptly cancelled. Per Shah’s camp, that’s why Cohen made his recent viral comments on WWHL. 

Heather Gay’s black eye was a major plot point in the last season of The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City. The reveal of her appearance was a shocking point in the trailer, with the season seemingly leading up to that point. But after the event, Gay flip flopped on whether or not she remembered what happened that night. A popular fan theory was that Jen Shah was responsible, and that her friend and co-star was trying to protect her from the incident affecting her forthcoming time in court. 

Jen Shah was nearly arrested on camera during Season 2 of RHOSLC, and has spent the last two seasons defending herself and claiming her innocence. This is why it turned so many heads when she ended pleading guilty. And now she’s actually begun doing time.

It’s a crazy time to be a Real Housewives fanatic, with three different shows on the air and a number of casting shakeups breaking the internet. But perhaps the biggest news to come from the Bravo-verse is the recent sentencing of RHOSLC star Jen Shah to 6.5 years in prison. And formerly imprisoned Housewife Teresa Giudice recently explained why she “can’t relate” to Shah also being ordered to jail time.

Over the past few years, the Real Housewives has learned into the true crime genre, thanks to Jen Shah’s arrest while shooting and Erika Jayne’s ongoing legal battle. But RHONJ original cast member Teresa Giudice was the first Housewife to go to prison before our eyes, serving 11 months for fraud over papers she was asked to sign by ex-husband Joe Giudice. On a recent episode of her podcast Namaste Bitches, Tre made distinction between herself and Shah. As she told co-host Melissa Pfeister:

There you go. The Real Housewives of New Jersey OG might have also gone to prison over fraud, she doesn’t really see the similarities between herself and Jen Shah. And indeed, there are some major differences between the two legal cases. And Giudice wants everyone to know that she’d never be involved in the same dealings as her Salt Lake City colleague.

Despite maintaining her innocence for two seasons of The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City, Jen Shah ultimately plead guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud, reportedly targeting vulnerable communities like the elderly in order to get money out of them. While Giudice served her own time in prison, she made a point of putting a barrier between her crimes and that of Shah’s. As she put it,

There are plenty of people comparing Jen Shah with Teresa Giudice, as they’re both Housewives who were given prison time over issues related to fraud. But the latter TV personality has always maintained that she didn’t know what she was involved with, and was trusting her ex and signing where she was told. She addressed this later in the podcast, saying:

The difference between these two offenses can clearly be seen by the amount of prison time that was ordered for the two Real Housewives stars. Teresa Giudice was sentenced to 15 months in prison for 41 counts of fraud, including making false statements on loan applications, and bankruptcy fraud. Meanwhile, Jen Shah was sentenced to 6.5 years. So while there are similrities, these are vastly different circumsances.

Jen Shah will be noticeably missing from the reunion of The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City, although she’s expected to do an interview with Andy Cohen before surrendering herself into custody. Over the last few years, a number of Real Housewives stars have faced major legal issues. Real Housewives of Salt Lake City's Jen Shah is a prime example, pleading guilty to wire fraud and more. Today was her long-awaited sentencing day, and she was ultimately ordered to over 6 years in prison.

This news comes to us from NBC, as Jen Shah was only just given her sentencing while appearing in court in New York City. Both legal teams made their own argument, before  Judge Sidney Stein announced her decision, ordering Shah to serve 78 months in prison. What's more, she'll be supervised for five years following her release, whenever that might be. 

6.5 years is a long chunk of time for anyone and stands in stark juxtaposition to the mere 11 months that Real Housewives of New Jersey's Teresa Giudice served back in 2014. Still, there is some silver lining, as Jen Shah's crimes could have resulted in over a decade of prison time. 

Per reports from the courtroom, Jen Shah stood and faced Judge Stein when being sentenced, and didn't show any major signs of emotion. Real Housewives of Salt Lake City fans might be surprised by this, given how emotional she typically is on the Bravo series. Judge Stein made a point to separate what was happening in the courtroom from any character that Shah might have played up on TV, saying:

Bravo viewers have watched Jen Shah's legal saga play out over the last two seasons of The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City, with the feds even showing up to a venue where the cast was filming. Through Seasons 2 and 3 she denied any guilt in the charges, before eventually pleading guilty in court. Since then Bravo has seemingly distanced itself from Shah, who didn't participate in the reunion for the current season. 

Given how this was covered on the show, all eyes were on what would happen today in court, and how Jen Shah would ultimately be sentenced. Real Housewives of Potomac star Mia Thornton tweeted out that she was praying for her ahead of the sentencing, resulting in some backlash. She issued a follow-up tweet, which reads:

It remains to be seen if Jen Shah and her team issue a response to this sentencing, and if either Andy Cohen or any of the other Salt Lake housewives respond publicly online. It's certainly a sobering set of circumstances, especially given the crimes that Shah ultimately plead guilty to. Smart money says it'll somehow be addressed in the reunion special, which was filmed prior to the sentencing. 

The co-hosts of The View have never shied away from giving their unvarnished opinions on a number of hot-button issues, from politics to pop culture, and that hasn’t changed with the dawn of Season 26. Frequent moderator Whoopi Goldberg is just as outspoken as her fellow hosts, and she recently shared some critical thoughts after Real Housewives star Jen Shah pleaded guilty to very serious federal charges.

What Did The View’s Whoopi Goldberg Say About Jen Shah? 

While it’s probably unlikely that the blockbuster franchise from Andy Cohen (who offered thoughts on Shah’s plea change) comes up a lot on the long-running talk show, The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star is a special case. She’s been fighting wire fraud and money laundering charges attached to a telemarketing scheme for well over a year, but recently pleaded guilty. After her co-star, Meredith Marks, said that she was standing by her, Goldberg asked The View’s panelists if they could stick with a friend who did something like this, and then offered her own opinion, noting:

Several other co-hosts had pointed out that standing by friends, even when they’ve admitted to doing something wrong, is important, particularly when their actions could very likely lead to time in prison. While the Sister Act star was understanding of that position, and did seem to appreciate that Shah (whose fraud case had a Hulu documentary in 2021) has decided to take responsibility for her actions, the fact that the scam was focused on defrauding the elderly is what really gave her pause.

The reality star (who has continued to film the Bravo series) was arrested near the end of March 2021 (along with her assistant), and the complete charges from the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Southern District of New York did, in fact, note that Shah and others “defrauded hundreds” throughout the country, with many victims being “over age 55.” Older people are targeted in scams like this quite a lot, and with a number of senior citizens already having limited income, it makes the result of falling for a scheme even worse on them financially.

It would seem with her guilty plea that the RHSLC cast member has admitted that at least some of her money has come from this telemarketing scam. She’s suspected to be facing up to 14 years in prison with the plea deal, as well as giving financial restitution to her victims, and her punishment is set to be decided on November 28.

For more than a year, reality star Jen Shah had been fighting the wire fraud and money laundering charges leveled at her by the federal government, which alleged that she spearheaded a nationwide telemarketing scheme that victimized vulnerable populations for years. She'd even attempted to get the case dismissed several times, but then Shah changed course by making the shocking decision to reverse her plea to a guilty one back in July. As a result, she now owes millions in fines and faces up to 30 years maximum in prison. Meredith Marks, her co-star on the Real Housewives of Salt Lake City, has shared her thoughts in the wake of how that all played out, going so far as to say that Shah was in fact “gutsy,” as opposed to any harsher critiques.

Truth be told, Meredith Marks and Jen Shah had been feuding quite a bit in Season 2 of their hit Bravo reality series. There were rumors circulating that the former had tipped off the feds for Shah’s 2021 arrest, and the two also got in a tiff about an alleged robbery at Marks’ boutique. However, Marks and Shah later appeared to move on from their drama, and while talking on the August 17 episode of the #NoFilter podcast, Marks actually commended her former frenemy for even filming the show at all amidst her legal woes. She said,

Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alum Erika Jayne, who has also faced hefty legal scrutiny of late, has said as much about why she didn’t open up about the lawsuits hanging over her head while filming the show’s eleventh season. And as for Real Housewives of New Jersey’s Teresa Giudice – who actually went to prison in 2015 for similar charges as those of Jen Shah – her former attorney was candid, too, in saying that the controversial Salt Lake City star staying on TV wouldn’t help her any more than it did Giudice.

Still, Meredith Marks came under a bit of fire herself just prior to her castmate flipping her plea in court. Marks, Jen Shah and fellow co-star Heather Gay had all been spotted on social media feeds hanging out together in New York City in the lead up to the case going to trial, or so it was believed. Fans criticized the show of solidarity, which prompted Marks to defend everyone’s right to being “innocent until proven guilty” at the time, via her IG Stories. Nevertheless, Marks confirmed on the podcast that she didn’t know about Shah’s plea plans, adding that she was “surprised” by the last-minute move.

Obviously, her previous post about innocence until proof of guilt didn’t age well, and yet, the TV personality continues to stand behind her defense at that time. Marks explained:

As for how their friendship stands presently after Jen Shah admitted guilt in the crimes she’s accused of, Meredith Marks revealed that they remain friendly. She’s even “texted a little” with both Shah and their ousted RHOSLC castmate Mary Cosby. Although Marks did hint that those haven’t exactly been consistent relationships, as she’s been out of the country for several months in order to decompress from the show’s “dark” second season.

Alas, Season 3 of the Real Housewives of Salt Lake City is looking like it might be the last time we’ll see Jen Shah for a while, gutsy behavior or not. A judge will dole out her sentencing on November 28, right around the time the show is expected to premiere again. We’ll keep you updated on both highly anticipated situations as they develop. For more than a year now, Jen Shah has been proclaiming her innocence regarding the conspiracy to commit wire fraud and money laundering charges against her. But in a shocking turn of events, the Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star reversed her plea to a guilty one in court recently. She’s heading straight to sentencing in November as a result, and it’s all but certain that she’ll face some amount of prison time. (Estimates guess somewhere between 14 to 30 years.) Yet, the question remains: what does all this mean for her tenure on the Bravo show?

Technically, the Real Housewives of Salt Lake City has already been filming Season 3 for several months. Jen Shah is among the cast’s returning alums, so we know at least some of her legal woes of late will be documented as they were in Season 2. According to a source for People, the fraud case is actually a “very big part” of Shah’s future storylines. However, will she also be a part of a potential fourth season too? The source claimed:

As many will recall, Teresa Giudice had been charged with fraud counts similar to Jen Shah by the federal government back in 2014, alongside her husband Joe Giudice. She took a plea deal that ultimately sent her to prison for almost a full year. The mother of four filmed the Real Housewives of New Jersey right up until she had to turn herself in, and her family (some of whom are co-stars on the reality series) continued to do so afterwards. Presumably Bravo would indeed like to pull off the same arrangement with Jen Shah.

Nevertheless, the marketing exec’s charges are a lot heftier than Teresa Giudice’s were, so any sort of comeback return (as it was with Giudice) would be a long way off. It's likely RHOSLC will feature Jen Shah in Season 4 in some capacity based on the footage the network already captured and since her sentencing is still many months away. But anything more is likely just wishful thinking.

Jen Shah’s one and only tell-all interview on the matter, outside of Bravo, happened just a few weeks prior to her pleading guilty. At that point, she was still indicating that she was innocent in her strongly worded message to the naysayers. So many are wondering, why then the sudden change of heart from the TV personality? Some speculation has it that the convictions of fellow reality TV stars Todd and Julie Chrisley (for, again, similar charges) in June were a strong warning to Shah of her chances if she took her own case to trial as well. Truth be told, Teresa Giudice’s former lawyer had also warned about the troubles ahead for Shah’s case in court.

Andy Cohen, executive producer of the Real Housewives franchise and its longtime reunion host, initially reacted to the plea reversal with slight ambivalence. Meanwhile, her Salt Lake City co-stars have been mostly silent on the situation. More recently though, Cohen followed up his previous statements by saying on his radio show (via People) that he is “especially upset for her victims” and that “she lied for so long.” He claims he had been cheering Jen Shah on due to the adamancy of her innocence. The 54-year-old talk show host added:

There are some viewers who think Jen Shah should be immediately fired from the show because of her (now formal) admittance of guilt in the nationwide telemarketing scheme that allegedly victimized the elderly and others. Meghan McCain, who has previously advocated for “justice” regarding RHOBH’s Erika Jayne and her legal problems, has echoed the calls for Shah’s removal, per her op-ed for The Daily Mail. Given the fact that Jennie Nguyen was fired earlier this year from RHOSLC for a racial scandal and her co-star Mary Cosby supposedly walked away on her own accord after her own controversies, it doesn’t exactly bode too well for the reported fraudster.

However, all is changed now because Shah is forgoing the trial and heading straight to sentencing via a plea agreement, which could see her face more than a decade in prison for the charges. Andy Cohen spoke out about the reversal himself, and surely Shah’s RHOSLC co-stars have something to say about it as well, right?

How Andy Cohen Reacted To Jen Shah News

The executive producer and longtime Real Housewives reunion host addressed Jen Shah’s apparent change of heart (or perhaps a change of faith in the justice system) on his radio show recently, via People. He was in conversation with actor Jonah Hill when he revealed that he didn’t exactly “know how to feel” about the guilty plea. Hill suggested that it’s a sign that the 48-year-old mother of two has finally copped to criminal wrongdoings in the telemarketing scheme she was alleged to be involved in, one that impacted mostly elderly victims. But Andy Cohen still seemed to be hedging his bets on the situation, saying,

Was Andy Cohen implying that Jen Shah wasn’t truly guilty, per se, but just possibly hedging her own bets on the unlikelihood of an acquittal had the case gone to an expensive trial? The answer is not entirely clear, but it’s obvious that the Bravo producer and talk show host has a soft spot for the legally embattled TV personality. He shared with Jonah Hill that Shah even had sent a gift for the arrival of his new baby girl, despite everything she was and is still dealing with, which he found to be “so nice of her.”

What Do Other RHOSLC Castmates Think About Guilty Plea?

Interestingly, a few days ahead of the bombshell hearing, two of Shah's Real Housewives of Salt Lake City co-stars were in New York City with her to show support, per Page Six. The trio was rounded out by Heather Gay (who famously has always believed in Shah’s innocence) and Meredith Marks (who famously didn’t believe in Shah’s innocence at all, and was even suspected to have tipped off the feds for her arrest). Neither of the RHOSLC castmates have officially spoken out about the change to a guilty plea, so questions continue to linger if they knew what their friend was planning.

The Taste of Reality Instagram account posted an alleged screenshot of a preemptive statement made on Meredith Marks’ Stories prior to the turn of events. And judging by what made it to IG, albeit temporarily, it would seem she was all for Shah proving her innocence in court, and really didn't foresee the sudden change of plans. See here:

A source for E! News indicated that other RHOSLC cast members have been, generally speaking, just as shocked by the plea as anyone else. Supposedly, some of them are feeling “duped, misled and lied to by their friend,” especially considering how adamant Jen Shah has been about her culpability, or lack thereof, for many months now.

What Jen Shah Has Said About Fraud Charges

Ever since her jaw-dropping arrest played out in 2021 – while the Real Housewives of Salt Lake City was in the midst of filming Season 2 no less – the star has continually maintained her innocence. She had been fighting the case pretty hard as a result, to include trying to block the show’s footage from impacting her trial and attempting to have the charges dismissed entirely (twice). Shah held her first non-Bravo tell-all interview this past June, after those efforts failed, where she again advocated for her innocence and had a blunt message for both the naysayers and supporters of her cause.

At the recent court hearing, though, the Bravolebrity admitted to the alleged crimes in a pre-written statement, saying she knew the telemarketing scheme’s offers had “little to no value” and that she was aware at the time that it was “wrong and illegal.” In a statement to E! News following the news, Shah’s lawyer Priya Chaudhry stated:

As reported by People, Bravo allegedly wants to keep the cameras rolling for as long as possible, as it was in the lead up to RHONJ’s Teresa Giudice going to prison for fraud charges in 2015.

Yet, the former businesswoman from Utah is anticipated to have much bigger consequences for her alleged crimes. Jen Shah in fact faces a maximum penalty of 30 years in prison, but she’s speculated to have taken a 14-year plea deal, to be coupled with financial restitution for victims. We’ll find out more when she sees official sentencing on November 28.

A week before Jen Shah was set to stand trial on criminal fraud charges, the Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star has surprisingly changed course, pleading guilty during her court appearance on July 11. Shah had consistently maintained her innocence after previously pleading not guilty to federal charges of conspiring to commit wire fraud and money laundering, and now faces 11 to 14 years in prison.

At a hearing held on the morning of Monday, July 11, Jen Shah’s attorney Priya Chaudhry said her client wished to change her plea from not guilty to the opposite, with a plea agreement as part of the switch. The Bravo alum read a prepared statement in court to Judge Sidney Stein, ABC News reports. The statement read:

Jen Shah’s plea agreement calls for a sentence of up to 14 years in prison, Variety reports. The maximum penalty would be 30 years in prison, but under the terms of the deal, sentencing guidelines fall between 11 and 14 years, although a judge could choose to go outside of those parameters. The plea also stipulates that Shah would pay more than $9 million in restitution to her victims. Her sentencing date is now scheduled for November 28.

She also said on Instagram (via Page Six) that she was “looking forward” to her trial so everyone could “see the truth.”

It will be interesting to see what comes out in the aftermath of Jen Shah's unexpected announcement, as the reality star spends a few more months with her family ahead of what is likely to be a long time in prison.

Recently, however, she decided to sit down with YouTube’s Up and Adam! for a nearly two-hour-long tell-all about her personal and legal situation. The host asked how Jen Shah felt about the backlash she received in March for releasing a formal “Free Jen Shah” merch line in light of the very serious allegations against her. Shah responded,

The Bravo alum clarified that her fans were the ones to actually come up with the idea for the “Free Jen Shah” movement on social media, not herself, following the initial arrest. She got a bit emotional when talking about the supportive side of the Real Housewives of Salt Lake City fanbase, too, saying,

In her view, the merch (which included sayings like “Not Guilty,” “Shah Squad,” and “Shahmazing”) had a much bigger meaning to it than what the critics perceived. Jen Shah shared that it was emblematic of her innocence and the rule of law. She said,

Fans will remember how Jen Shah famously said in Season 2 of the Real Housewives of Salt Lake City that she would like to hire Kim Kardashian for her legal team. Kardashian has long been advocating on behalf of death row inmates, lengthy drug sentences, and the wrongfully accused to be released from prison. (And she’s passed her baby bar exam on her way to becoming a fully fledged lawyer.) Well, during her sit-down interview, Shah claimed that she had been “very serious” about hiring Kardashian because she respects those efforts on behalf of the Black community in particular and her being on the “right side of justice.”

The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City fan-favorite has herself been fighting her fraud case tooth and nail. She attempted to get the charges dismissed altogether twice, but to no avail. In addition, Jen Shah and her legal team have also filed for RHSLC footage to not be used as evidence in the trial. According to Law360 on that front, the judge ruled that the prosecutors needed to “steer clear” of the reality series footage but could use relevant clips such as Shah receiving a search warrant on camera. Speaking on the Up and Adam!, Shah reiterated that her continued efforts are to prove her innocence. She stated,

However, while many defendants enjoy trial delays, it looks like the reality star actually wants the trial to happen sooner rather than later.

The trial date has been pushed back a few times of late due to COVID-19 and courtroom availability. First, it was supposed to kick off last October, then in March of 2022. According to a letter obtained by Radar Online,  Jen Shah’s fraud case is currently slated to be heard on July 11, and somewhat surprisingly she’s requesting for it to stay that way if possible. If she cannot have that day in court with the already-assigned judge, she wants another judge who is available to be assigned instead. Her lawyer Priya Chaudhry explained in the letter,

Having to continuously fund Jen Shah’s defense amidst these courtroom delays is likely the hardship the letter speaks of. On Season 2 of the Real Housewives of Salt Lake City, it in fact came out that her lawyers were asking for a $2 million retainer fee. Shah shared at the time that her mother had liquidated roughly $1 million of her retirement and her family had to downsize from the “Shah Chalet” in order to pay the lofty legal expenses. 

In addition, preparation for the trial meant reviewing supposedly millions of documents in evidence, per the letter, and her legal team claims it's been spread thin as a result. Priya Chaudhry stated that the RHSLC alum’s case has prevented their small law firm from pursuing other trials outside of this one, hence their latest request to the court.

One would normally assume that trial delays bode well for the defendant, as they are given more time to prepare as necessary. In Jen Shah’s case, it also means she has more time with her family in case a guilty verdict is rendered. Regardless, the 48-year-old has been very confident about her innocence – going so far as attempting to have the case dismissed twice – and even remarked on Instagram (via Page Six) amidst the recent Real Housewives of Salt Lake City reunions airing that she was “looking forward” to her trial so everyone could “see the truth.”

To note, the Housewives franchise star's innocence was called into question last year as events played out while Shah was filming the second season of the Bravo reality series. Nearly all of her fellow castmates had their doubts, but it was Meredith Marks’ accusations about a theft at her boutique by a Shah employee in the past that really shook the table, which Shah later denied as just an accident. Things escalated further when the group speculated that Marks had something to do with tipping off the federal agents who arrested Shah, which Marks in turn emphatically denied.

The legally embattled star is said to be facing upwards of 30 to 50 years in prison for the charges, if she is found guilty and gets the maximum sentence. We'll have to wait and see how the case plays out when she ultimately does get her day in court. 

As Bravo viewers well know, stars of the Real Housewives get their dirty laundry aired out whether they like it or not. For Jen Shah, this means her arrest for fraud and money laundering charges was fair game in Season 2 of the Salt Lake City, as well as the fallout of it with the other ladies. However, the reality star is now attempting to block the show’s footage from impacting her upcoming trial.

Jen Shah Snubs Real Housewives Of Salt Lake City In New Court Filing

So far as we know, the star's trial is slated for March 22 in New York. But there’s also been talk of a pretrial hearing taking place on Tuesday, February 22. Whatever the case may be, the Bravo alum made a preemptive move to mitigate the reality series’ impact on any legal outcomes. She, as a matter of fact, filed documents in court, per People, that request Real Housewives of Salt Lake City clips not be shown as evidence. Her lawyers said in the docs:

Throughout the second season, several major claims were leveled against Jen Shah by her castmates, which makes it understandable why she’s trying to prevent it from airing out in court. Most notably, her co-star, Meredith Marks, alleged in Vale that one of Shah's former employees stole from her boutique. Shah has flat-out denied culpability in the incident, but it doesn’t bode well for a fraud trial.

Bravo Show Gets Slammed As “Fake” By Jen Shah's Legal Team

The court documents would go on to say that the Bravo alum's behavior on The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City (which might be used against her at the trial) was “molded by requirements” of reality TV. Her lawyers also allege that the footage is “highly curated and edited to satisfy.” In other words, the drama could sway a potential jury against her. Additionally, they stated:

As Vanderpump Rules’ Lala Kent recently revealed, Bravo stars are indeed rewarded for playing up conflict. But unfortunately for Jen Shah, the RHSLC shenanigans are already out there for any viewer to see – even potential jury members.

Several Efforts Have Been Made To Dismiss Jen Shah’s Charges

It isn’t known as of yet if the judge in the case has made a decision about the show’s footage. However, there have been several other rulings – and not in the reality TV star's favor. The Salt Lake City alum has tried twice now to have the fraud charges thrown out completely. In the most recent one, there were claims that the Hulu documentary about her troubles would “jeopardize” a fair trial. Her efforts were denied both times.

Needless to say, it's all coming down to the wire now. The Season 2 finale of The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City premieres tonight, Sunday, February 20 on Bravo at 9 p.m. EST, and then Jen Shah’s court dates will follow soon after.

Jen Shah’s initial arrest for charges related to fraud and money laundering last year, as well as the subsequent aftermath, have been playing out on The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City for a few months now. However, her case is still very much ongoing off-camera. The reality star’s pretrial hearing is in fact next week. Ahead of the hearing, Teresa Giudice’s former lawyer has weighed in with his own expertise in these cases and explained why he believes Shah being on the Real Housewives doesn’t help matters any.

As viewers likewise saw play out on The Real Housewives of New Jersey for several seasons, its main cast member, Teresa Giudice, and her husband Joe faced fraud charges. And they ultimately served prison time after taking a guilty plea deal. Giudice would go on to serve almost 12 months in prison herself (and apparently, still talks to some of the women she met there). Her lawyer at that time, James J. Leonard Jr., explained to Fox News Digital that Jen Shah featuring prominently on Salt Lake City will likely pose a similar problem, saying:

Teresa Giudice herself admitted as of late that being in the public eye certainly doesn’t do Real Housewives stars any favors in the dating department, either. Her former lawyer told the outlet that Jen Shah’s pretrial hearing this Tuesday will have both sides reporting to the judge about where the case is “ultimately going.” It all could potentially be resolved by a plea bargain or moved ahead to a full trial.

So far, as audiences have seen on the second season of Real Housewives of Salt Lake City, the polarizing star has maintained her innocence in the purported telemarketing scheme she is accused of running. Her mom has put up her retirement to help fight the case, and the teaser for the finale episode even suggested that she will take it all the way to trial.

Jen Shah and her legal team have actually endeavored twice now to get the fraud case thrown out entirely, citing issues with how her arrest went down. The judge denied her attempts, twice. It doesn’t bode well, too, that Shah’s accused co-conspirator and former assistant, Stuart Smith, took a guilty plea deal in November. He’s out on bail now, but his sentencing court date is set for March 3 (per People) and the combined maximum sentence for his three charges is 70 years in prison.

Teresa Giudice’s former lawyer would add that the pretrial hearing for Jen Shah is a “very serious situation.” He knows firsthand – after seeing Giudice separated from her four young daughters for a year – that receiving a guilty verdict in a case isn’t “theater” like how it’s portrayed on Bravo's reality TV franchise. He said about Jen Shah,

Erika Jayne of the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills has gotten some good news in her own legal problems, but she also feels some kind of way about how being on the show affected things for her. We’ll have to wait and see on February 22 how it all plays out for Jen Shah’s case. In the meantime, fans can catch the Salt Lake City finale, which airs on February 20 at 9 p.m. EST.

Jen Shah has had her fair share of problems both on and off the Real Housewives of Salt Lake City. In a few months’ time, in fact, the reality star goes to trial over her fraud and money laundering charges. But it seems her co-stars aren't immune from controversy, either. Recently, series newcomer Jennie Nguyen received a ton of condemnation for old Facebook posts of hers surfacing. Shah has since spoken out on the matter, which included calling Nguyen’s apology “disingenuous.”

Several screenshots of Jennie Nguyen’s Facebook posts have been circulating on social media amongst fans. They date back to September 2020, at the tail end of the Black Lives Matter protests about police brutality that erupted that summer. In the posts, Nguyen appeared to take a pro-police position and implied that the protestors involved should've been held accountable for their actions.

Jennie Nguyen would later confirm that the Facebook posts were real, and her co-star Jen Shah was none too pleased. Shah reflected in a statement on Instagram that her household is in fact biracial and that she was “deeply offended” by the comments. The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City alum continued,

Some Real Housewives of Salt Lake City fans were likewise upset about the posts in question and were even calling for Jennie Nguyen’s removal from the show. In response to the backlash, Nguyen said on her Instagram that she believed she was “speaking out against violence” at the time but learned “how offensive and hurtful” the Facebook posts are. She said she regretted them and offered an apology for “the pain they caused.” However, Jen Shah apparently isn’t buying what Nguyen is saying. Shah added in her statement,

Jen Shah was backed up by a few of the other Real Housewives of Salt Lake City castmates on social media. Whitney Rose wrote on Twitter that she was “shocked and saddened” by what has come to light and added that everyone needs to do better to change “deep seeded discrimination and racism.” Likewise, Meredith Marks said in a more general statement on Instagram that there's “no room in this world for hatred.”

The controversy over Jennie Nguyen’s past views came about not long after a racially charged incident took place on the Real Housewives of Salt Lake City. Nguyen called out Mary Cosby for saying “slanted eyes” to her in one episode, resulting in a lot of fan backlash against Cosby. (Cosby would later not film the Season 2 reunion and is suspected to not be brought back for Season 3.) But it evidently went much deeper than that because Nguyen has been accused of using a “Black accent” with Cosby, which she denied (via Reality Blurb).

Clearly, a lot of serious issues are on the table as a result of the Real Housewives of Salt Lake City’s second season. It isn’t exactly abnormal these days, though, for the franchise. But, as fans well know concerning Jen Shah, the Bravo star isn’t one for holding back her opinions, so this may not be the last we hear about Jennie Nguyen’s Facebook page.

For the greater part of 2021, reality star Jen Shah has been embroiled in hefty legal trouble stemming from an alleged telemarketing scheme. She was arrested and charged with conspiracy to commit wire fraud and money laundering, which could potentially result in a 20-plus year prison sentence. The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City alum is now out on bail, but her court case has just hit yet another major setback.

It all started with the release of Hulu’s latest Bravo-themed documentary, The Housewife & the Shah Shocker. The film investigates the accusations leveled at Jen Shah – with interviews coming from her own family, alleged victims, and even Homeland Security agents involved in the case. Shah's legal team quickly filed to have her case thrown out entirely because of it, citing that the comments made by HSI didn't “protect Ms. Shah’s rights.” In fact, they claimed it “destroyed any chance” for the presumption of innocence and a fair trial.

However, the judge in the case has since denied her motion, according to official court documents obtained by People. The presiding judge, Sidney H. Stein, explained that a federal indictment dismissal would be “an extreme sanction” undertaken “only in the rare case.” A rarity that apparently does not apply to the Bravo star. Stein also wrote on their court order

This marks the second time Jen Shah has attempted to have her court case thrown out, only for it to be denied by the judge. In the first attempt, the Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star claimed that the arresting officers and detectives had tried to “coerce” her during an interrogation. Her legal team also previously endeavored to have certain leaked statements from the federal government – that pin Shah as one of the “senior-ranking participants” in the telemarketing scheme – be stricken or redacted from the public record because they were “highly prejudicial.”

The reality TV star hasn't been getting much support from her RHSLC co-stars, either. Meredith Marks, in fact, has outright accused her former friend of stealing from her boutique in the past. Ahead of the sophomore season premiere, Marks even took to shading her co-star using the very same boutique.

Despite the continuous legal disappointments, Jen Shah still maintains her innocence. Unfortunately, her former right hand man/personal assistant Stuart Smith has lately decided to change his plea for his own charges to guilty. So it would seem that more trouble may potentially lie ahead for Shah.

Following her arrest and not guilty plea earlier this year, Jen Shah has been fighting tooth-and-nail against the allegations that she masterminded a nationwide telemarketing scheme. So much so, in fact, that she is supposedly getting into hefty financial debt just for her defense team alone. Back in June, she made her first attempt to have the case thrown out entirely, citing coercion from the arresting officers and detectives involved. The motion was rejected by the presiding judge at the time, but now the Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star has a new reason why the fraud charges should be dismissed.

According to the latest court documents in the case obtained by People, the reality star and her legal team have filed for her criminal charges to be dismissed because of the recently-released Hulu documentary about her situation, called The Housewife & the Shah Shocker. They suggest that the special jeopardizes the presumption of Shah's innocence in court, specifically by two Homeland Security investigators involved in the case sharing details and opinions within documentary. The court documents state,

The Housewife & the Shah Shocker was released on Hulu on November 29, and it certainly dropped quite a few shocking statements about Jen Shah. Victims shared how they lost thousands of dollars in the alleged telemarketing scheme. ABC correspondent Aaron Katersky detailed how Shah had worked for a company years ago that was ultimately fined millions of dollars for “deceptive sales practices.” Moreover, the Homeland Security Investigations' Acting Special Agent in Charge, Rick Patel, shared that the ringleaders of the scheme in question are “pros at what they do” and “disgusting” for targeting vulnerable populations.

Of late, things have seemed to take an even worse turn for the Real Housewives of Salt Lake City alum. Her former assistant and co-conspirator in the fraud case, Stuart Smith, changed his previous not guilty plea to guilty of conspiracy to commit wire fraud, money laundering and obstruction, all of which could land him with a 70-year prison maximum sentence, per People. What’s more is that Shah’s Bravo co-star Meredith Marks has accused her and her entourage during the currently airing second season of shady misdeeds in the past, but Shah has since refuted the claims.

Nevertheless, Jen Shah has jokingly made light of her legal troubles on social media, even going so far as to outright compare them as bigger than those of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Erika Jayne. Shah maintains that she is innocent but unless the judge in her case decides to actually throw out her case this time, she’ll have to officially answer to the accusations at her trial slated for March 2022. In the meantime, the Real Housewives of Salt Lake City is still airing on Sundays at 9 p.m. ET on Bravo.

During her self-imposed hiatus from making movies, Jennifer Lawrence got married. She wed Cooke Maroney, an art gallerist, in 2019, and the two are now expecting their first child together. And speaking of Maroney, Lawrence artfully used him as a punchline about reality star Candiace Dillard Bassett’s wild decisions of late. On that Real Housewives of Potomac alum, Lawrence said,

To be honest, I would live for Jennifer Lawrence enlisting her hubby as manager, just to mimic the Real Housewives of Potomac storyline. It would also be totally in keeping with her history with notorious reality TV stars. As a fan, she’s been known to not only hang out at the Vanderpump Rules restaurants, but she’s also on first name terms with the Kardashians.

Not long after the successful freshman run of Real Housewives of Salt Lake City, castmate Jen Shah was arrested in Utah on fraud and money laundering charges stemming from her telemarketing business. She was (miraculously) filming the second season at the time, and the events of which have now started airing on Bravo. (Shah has since pled not guilty in court and awaits trial for next year.) In the interim, though, Jen Shah’s legal issues are getting the Erika Jayne treatment – a bombshell streaming documentary, that is – and it sounds just as juicy as its predecessor.

Variety reports that ABC News has a new Hulu original documentary on the horizon that explores Jen Shah’s alleged crimes, entitled The Housewife & the Shah Shocker, in the same vein as Erika Jayne and Tom Girardi’s problems in The Housewife & the Hustler. It will apparently feature interviews with those who knew and were close to the reality star (including a childhood classmate and her aunt), as well as the former employee that was at the center of the controversial leaked audio about Shah earlier this year. Law enforcement officials will also be delving into “the inner workings” of the purported scam that affected elderly victims and vulnerable populations.

Some of the commentators in the trailer for the upcoming Hulu documentary, in fact, slammed the Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star as being an “unpredictable rich woman” and “the witch of the West.” Yet another interviewee suggests that Jen Shah’s not guilty defense is based on the fact that she is “not the one selling these services” to victims – she only provided the “leads” for those services to seemingly do with what they will. However, the show will have two of Shah’s supposed victims share their own sides of the story. One of whom said in the trailer,

The timeline of the Real Housewives of Salt Lake City’s second season just caught up with Jen Shah being arrested. While some were in tears about the situation, co-star Meredith Marks was decidedly not crying. She even claimed that she herself saw fraudulent behavior from Shah in the past, which Shah has completely refuted. Supposedly, Marks will be tied somehow this season to tipping off Shah’s arresting officers back in March. The new documentary about the legal situation will also provide commentary, too, about the shocked and confused reaction to how the events unfolded. See the trailer here:

The Housewife & the Shah Shocker certainly sounds as dramatic as the one and only Jen Shah herself. Perhaps she will simply make light of the allegations, as she has in the past. Although her reported accomplice and former assistant, Stuart Smith, has since changed his own plea in the case to guilty (per Us Weekly), so things are getting pretty serious, regardless. The greatest episode in Real Housewives history graced our screens this past weekend. In it, Salt Lake City finally aired Jen Shah's infamous arrest for fraud and money laundering charges – and shadily used Bourne Identity-esque music to do so. What then followed was a lot of tears and accusations flying from her Bravo co-stars. Meredith Marks had the biggest bombshell of them all, surprisingly, when she implicated Shah in a previous theft at her boutique store. Now both Marks and Shah are deeply unpacking their side of events of the alleged theft.

In case you missed the highly dramatic episode, Meredith Marks specifically alleged that she was “not surprised” one bit about he co-star's legal troubles. She relayed to the cast – save for Jen Shah who was still in jail – that her suspicions really started after an incident last year at her clothing and jewelry store in Utah. The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star stated that a member of the “Shah Squad” that was rolling with her had taken a clutch handbag without paying and then brought it back after they questioned Shah on the phone about it. Marks even had text messages and security footage to seemingly back up her claims.

However, Jen Shah said on the Bravo After Show that the allegations are “ridiculous.” According to her, the store manager had said during the phone call that she must have put the clutch in her shopping bags without ringing it up. Shah said it “sounded like a mistake she made.” She continued about her co-star’s account of the story,

Likewise on Bravo's After Show, Meredith Marks reiterated her version of what went down yet again. She claimed that, at that point, she was “already very on guard” with her colleague, who has been accused of defrauding elderly and other vulnerable populations with her telemarketing business. Marks also stated:

Unexpectedly, their Real Housewives of Salt Lake City co-star, Heather Gay, seemed to confirm confidence in Meredith Marks’ story, despite previously throwing support behind Jen Shah. She shared on the After Show that the alleged thief was actually a former employer of her own at Beauty Lab. Apparently, he was caught receiving tips against the company's policy from Shah before being let go. Gay continued:

The bombshell theft account is just a sliver of the gossip that erupted after the RHSLC star's arrest. Meredith Marks – who has since been speculated to be involved in tipping off the feds in the case – also claimed to have heard that Jen Shah was red-flagged by Louis Vuitton for using cash at their stores, with the implication that she was hiding her money trail. Salt Lake City castmate Whitney Rose insinuated as well that she always had her suspicions about Shah’s lavish lifestyle, although she thought that Shah must've had a sugar daddy that was not her husband.

Suffice to say, The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City's sophomore season is already gearing up to be even more intense than Erika Jayne’s recent Beverly Hills one. At least Erika Jayne was able to suspend her co-stars' disbelief longer than one episode… (Meredith Marks’ store is even making some profit off the whole debacle.)

The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City has laid the groundwork for Meredith Marks and Jen Shah's feud to take center stage in Season 2. Insinuations are even made that Marks had tipped off the feds on where to arrest Shah on March 30 for charges of fraud and money laundering. They supposedly get to the bottom of the ordeal but, ahead of the new season's premiere, Marks still seemingly took the opportunity to shade her rival in a major way.

As fans saw in the trailer for The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City’s second season, Jen Shah gets into a heated argument with Meredith Marks over her alleged snitching at a cast dinner party. Marks “disengages” in true form, and on the way out, sarcastically says to Shah, “Who's calling who a fraud? Love you baby, bye.” Now, Marks is using the zinger for new merchandise on her online store. That's right, she's selling her Jen Shah diss on hoodies for $49 on the night of the show’s premiere.

Whether scathing or lighthearted, Meredith Marks’ move seems like shade to me. She apparently took accusations of being an FBI source on the chin in Season 2 and then manifested it into a business venture at Jen Shah’s expense. I think Real Housewives superfan and shade master Rihanna would, in fact, be proud.

However, there is a slight chance that Meredith Marks’ shade wasn't intentional towards Jen Shah. She addressed the claims of tipping off the feds before the Real Housewives of Salt Lake City Season 2 premiere, with hints that it all might have been a big misunderstanding. In a more recent interview with Us Weekly, it sounded like she still considers Jen Shah to be a friend, albeit one she argues with frequently:

On the same token, Meredith Marks also told Us Weekly that her “eyebrows were raised” concerning the information the cast got about Jen Shah’s charges at that time. She said it was “possible” that Shah indeed was the ringleader of a telemarketing scheme (as she’s been accused of) but that certain “problematic” aspects “didn't add up” in her perspective.

The second season of The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City will apparently catch the legal drama from all angles and viewpoints. It premieres tonight on Bravo at 9 p.m. EST, and one can only hope that Meredith Marks is wearing her “Love you, baby” hoodie to celebrate it.

As Bravo fans learned last year, Salt Lake City, Utah is defined by a lot more than Mormonism. The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City's freshman season showed off a cast of entrepreneurs, leaders, and huge personalities struggling to get along while simultaneously defying religious stereotypes. The upcoming new season is reportedly just as intense and will have a little help from new castmate Jennie Nguyen. The newcomer recently shared what it was like working with Jen Shah and all of the other ladies on Season 2.

Jennie Nguyen, 46, is a former businesswoman, wife, and mother of three kids. She's the first Vietnamese housewife in the Bravo franchise and the third Asian-American star after Crystal Kung Minkoff and Jen Shah. She comes into the Real Housewives of Salt Lake City as a Catholic friend of co-star Lisa Barlow but, apparently, her expectations of the other women had to be tossed out over the course of Season 2. She told TheWrap:

After the first season's reunion ended, the cast began filming Season 2 with no delay and managed to capture Shah's controversial arrest for fraud and money laundering charges. Supposedly, co-star Meredith Marks even had something to do with the feds’ timely appearance, which Marks has remained cagey about. So Jennie Nguyen can either remain an impartial outsider to the Shah drama that unfolds or, conversely, participate in it, as most Real Housewives are quick to do.

It is uncertain as of yet what role Jennie Nguyen will take up in the Real Housewives of Salt Lake City’s second season. In the show’s trailer, Nguyen mainly gets into a heated argument with her husband over having more kids in the future. Jen Shah seems to like her just fine and calls her a “firecracker.” With Nguyen busy forging her place amongst the group, though, Lisa Barlow starts up a feud with Mary Cosby over her alleged “cult” church.

Without a doubt, a lot of dynamics are in play for Season 2 and I, for one, am itching to find out how it goes. The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City premieres this Sunday, September 12, at 9 p.m. ET on Bravo.

But what's even more interesting is that Meredith Marks is accused of alerting the feds to Shah’s location prior to her arrest in the teaser trailer for Season 2. Marks is now defending herself against all the speculation.

Real Housewives of Salt Lake City co-stars Whitney Rose and Heather Gay appeared to be leading the line of inquiry in the Season 2 trailer. They question how the feds could've known for sure that they could find Jen Shah at Gay’s Beauty Lab business to arrest her. Surprisingly, even Lisa Barlow makes the comment that Meredith Marks knows more than she's letting on. The insinuations spark Shah to blowup on Marks at a dinner party. But there's more context to be had, as Marks recently told E! News:

The biggest surprise here is that Meredith Marks reveals she's a “licensed lawyer.” So far as I knew from The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City's first season, Marks only owns a jewelry/clothing business in Utah. (She, in fact, claimed to have high-profile clientele like Courteney Cox and Charlize Theron.) What's not so surprising is how Marks’ comments complicate the allusions to her tipping off the arresting officers to Jen Shah’s whereabouts. In truth, anyone (including any of the dozens on Bravo's production team) could have told the feds where Shah was and, if they were asked, they would have been legally bound to answer honestly anyway.

Jen Shah is accused of ringleading a telemarketing scheme that apparently stole from dozens of mostly elderly victims. She denies the allegations and faces trial next year. Despite the seriousness of the charges, Shah has taken to finding light in the situation, even jokingly comparing her legal trouble to that of Erika Jayne’s in The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.

It should be noted that Meredith Marks’ statement isn't exactly denying that she had anything to do with Jen Shah’s arrest. But in a surprise move, Bravo released the footage it had of Shah’s arrest before the second season premiere of Real Housewives of Salt Lake City, and it’s more than a little sketchy. In it, Shah is seen getting a mysterious phone call before she asked Whitney Rose to turn off her mic and then disappeared. The next thing all her co-stars know – except Meredith Marks, who wasn't present – is that Shah is being put in handcuffs.

Two of the biggest stars in the Real Housewives Universe are in a lot of legal trouble. The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills’ Erika Jayne has been implicated in her husband's multi-million-dollar embezzlement allegations since the end of 2020. Then, in March of this year, Real Housewives of Salt Lake City's Jen Shah was arrested and charged for allegedly being the queen pin of a bicoastal telemarketing scheme. But apparently, Shah has a bit of sarcasm for their seemingly similar problems.

The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star posted a meme concerning her and Erika Jayne on her Instagram stories (via Page Six) that has since been deleted. In it, the now-iconic mascara-running image of Erika Jayne from The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills is side-by-side with her line from the latest episode, where she said to her co-stars, “Look at me. Look at my fucking life.” Jen Shah’s image is accompanied below it with, “BRB, hold my drink.” It would seem that Shah thinks her legal problems are much bigger than Erika Jayne’s.

This isn't the first time Jen Shah has joked about her federal charges. Only a few weeks after her arrest, the reality TV star was reposting fan-made “Free Jen” merch on social media. Erika Jayne – who recently went on a Twitter rampage concerning the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills dinner party that the meme addresses – has yet to speak on Shah’s legal problems.

At the moment, The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills is currently winding down on Season 11. Erika Jayne and co-star Sutton Stracke are feuding over the latter's insinuations that Erika Jayne is lying about what she knows. Jayne has, in fact, been recently sued by the trustee in the Chapter 7 bankruptcy case, who believes she knew that the more than $25 million of funds pertaining to her businesses were embezzled by husband Tom Girardi. However, she has maintained her innocence in the matter and is currently divorcing Girardi.

Likewise, Jen Shah has pled not guilty in court to the wire fraud and money laundering charges against her. If found guilty at her trial next year, though, she could face decades in prison. The severity of the two legal situations is definitely on different tiers, but not something one would think to make memes about.

But Bravo fans know good and well that The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City's Jen Shah is one of a kind. She got into a lot of heated arguments with her co-stars in Season 1, which apparently doesn't stop in Season 2. The new season will investigate Mary Cosby's alleged “cult” church, Shah’s arrest and legal battle, as well as how Meredith Marks may or may not have tipped off the feds in Shah’s case.

If nothing else, the current drama proves that this age-old Bravo proverb still endures: it's always a competition where Real Housewives are concerned. The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City premieres on September 12 on Bravo.

Season 2 of The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City is on the horizon. It's been highly anticipated, not only because Bravo fans love the craziness that was Season 1 but also because Jen Shah's legal troubles were subsequently caught in the crosshairs of filming. Ahead of the premiere, Shah's co-star, Heather Gay, shared for the first time what it was like seeing her friend get arrested.

On Bravo's Chat Room (via E! News), Heather Gay told hosts (and fellow Real Housewives alums) Porsha Williams and Gizelle Bryant that she has been “dying to talk” publicly about Jen Shah's arrest for money laundering and fraud charges. The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star said:

Speculation has churned for months now that Jen Shah's arrest was captured on Real Housewives of Salt Lake City. Heather Gay has now confirmed it but also revealed that it took place at her own place of business, Beauty Lab. This helps lend credence to a theory gleaned from the Season 2 trailer. Specifically that in the trailer, certain castmates seem to be indicating that co-star Meredith Marks might have cooperated with the feds to lead them to arrest Shah at Gay’s business. (Supposedly, Marks was still angry with Shah for talking about her marriage in Season 1.)

Jen Shah had in fact alienated a lot of her Real Housewives of Salt Lake City co-stars in the first season. Meredith Marks was one but Heather Gay was yet another. At the time, Shah even said she couldn't fully trust Gay anymore, and it didn’t seem resolved at the reunion, either. Nevertheless, Gay indicated previously that she leaned in to support Shah during her time of need this season, and that apparently hasn't changed. During her interview on Bravo's Chat Room, she also said:

Dynamics are always fluctuating in the Real Housewives universe, though. From my own perspective as a fan, Heather Gay herself seemed drastically different in the Real Housewives of Salt Lake City reunion show than she did in the actual season. Conversely, when the rumors about Meredith Marks’ possible involvement came to light in Season 2, Jen Shah still seems like her old self (in other words, things go south rather quickly).

All I know is that I'm more excited for The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City's second season than ever before. If it'll be anything close to the shock and awkwardness of the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills cast dealing with Erika Jayne's legal troubles, it will be worth the wait. Shah herself took to Cameo and a defunct GoFundMe to help with her defense. But now it's come out that her co-star and former close friend Meredith Marks might have had something to do with Shah landing in the legal trouble.

The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City has been filming the whole duration of Jen Shah's journey: from arrest to release and the aftershock. Fans got their first look into Season 2 and, boy, does it not disappoint. A lot of bombastic claims get thrown around but the biggest one concerns Meredith Marks’ alleged involvement in the federal investigation on Shah. The two didn't end on a good note last season, after a conflict with Marks' son ensued, which lends credence to the potential betrayal. In the trailer, co-star Whitney Rose actually point-blank says to Marks:

Now obviously, there's no official evidence to be had (as of yet) that Meredith Marks had something to do with Jen Shah and her federal indictment. But the Real Housewives of Salt Lake City cast seemed to be speculating on some rumors going around in their inner circle that embolden their accusations. Heather Gay is heard questioning how the feds knew Shah was at her Beauty Lab business and, without any context, we can only assume they mean when Shah was arrested.

The implication is that Meredith Marks gave sensitive information to help the feds pursue Jen Shah. Even Marks’ best friend of the group, Lisa Barlow, says at one point that Marks has “a lot of information” and they all know it. Shah, who has gotten into some trouble for her temper in the past, completely flips out upon hearing the revelations in the clip. She even said Marks was “fucking disgusting” if she had anything to do with the “bullshit charges.”

This is the public's first bird’s eye view into Jen Shah's real reactions to the allegations against her, and they're a bit polarizing. On the one hand, she breaks down in tears to her husband and shares how “fucking scared” she is to be taken away from their children. On the other, she jokes that she might need to add Kim Kardashian to her legal team. (Kardashian might be a little busy helping out Britney Spears, if she has the time for that kind of thing at all.)

Apart from Meredith Marks’ connection to Jen Shah's legal woes, the Real Housewives of Salt Lake City’s second season also apparently digs a bit deeper into rumors about Mary Cosby. Specifically, the group questions Cosby's role as the leader of her church and even insinuate that it is a cult. Lately, Cosby has been embroiled in a legal matter of her own, so supposed cult matters will probably have to wait.

But unbeknownst to the Bravo network, Shah was being investigated by the FBI for her supposed participation in a nationwide telemarketing scheme. She was arrested and charged in March and, of late, court documents have alluded to an even higher level of culpability by Shah than was previously thought. Now, her lawyer is firing back at these “highly prejudicial” statements.

It was revealed last week that the Real Housewives of Salt Lake City's Jen Shah, whose charges include fraud and money laundering, is in the highest tier of co-conspirators in the legal case. In fact, the court documents allege that Shah and her assistant, Stuart Smith, orchestrated the scheme and supplied leads to sustain it. Shah's lawyer quickly denied the claims, calling them “absurd” and “made-up,” but it seems she has also fired back officially in court.

In new court documents obtained by Radar Online, Priya Chaudhry, the reality star’s lawyer, requested that the recent statements “be stricken or at least redacted” from the public record. Chaudhry also stated:

In other words, Jen Shah’s lawyer is saying that because of her Bravo notoriety, Shah is being subjected to prejudice. Apparently, prosecutors had responded to the insinuations in court and stated that her Real Housewives fame had nothing to do with the revelations made.

Jen Shah claims to be innocent of the charges but, if she is found guilty during her trial in October, the punishment would likely be severe. With no plea deal made, she could face upwards of 20 years in prison.

However, Jen Shah’s lawyer has been working to make sure that won’t happen. They even attempted to have the case thrown out entirely a few weeks ago, alleging that the detectives involved “coerced” her. Following the judge’s previous bail ruling that prohibited the Real Housewives star from marketing work in the interim, Shah has taken to Cameo and a now-defunct GoFundMe to help pay for her defense in court.

Amidst the back and forth of the legal case, Jen Shah has also been filming the second season of The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City. Co-star Heather Gay shared how she was leaning in to support her best friend-turned-frenemy on the show. But it is unclear if Shah will take the Erika Jayne approach to filming amid legal troubles. That is, only cryptically alluding to issues and headlines, without revealing too much.

Indeed, it would be probably the safest move for Jen Shah to not share too much on camera for Real Housewives of Salt Lake City. Prosecutors in both Shah and Erika Jayne’s ongoing legal cases have made it clear that their opulent lifestyles would be under intense scrutiny as they applied to the allegations levelled against them. Still, the warning hasn't stopped Erika Jayne from flying private jets and fighting back in court.

Jen Shah is also fighting her own fraud charges out in court. Even though the reality star's trial is still a few months away, things are clearly still heating up in the public court of perception.

In fact, according to TMZ, who obtained the documents, the two are among four individuals labeled in the investigation’s Tier A of senior-ranking participants, with Tiers 1-4 containing 23 low-ranking individuals. But Shah’s lawyer Priya Chaudhry hit back against the allegations, saying in a statement to People:

According to People, other defendants in Jen Shah’s felony case have already been found guilty and sentenced. One Tier A defendant was apparently sentenced to 78 months in prison, whereas others received sentences ranging from just over a year to 87 months. The maximum penalty for Shah's alleged crimes can reach upwards of 20 years in prison.

However, Jen Shah has maintained her innocence since her first arraignment hearing back in April and even joked about a movement amongst Bravo fans to “Free Jen.” The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star actually attempted to get her case thrown out in court, citing being “coerced” by the arresting officers and detectives. She received a lot of online criticism for the attempt, as well as for a previous decision to start a GoFundMe for her ongoing legal fees.

The allegations are about as serious as they get, as Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Erika Jayne knows very well, too. Even the infamous “Shah Chalet” rental has been sold out from under her. But Jen Shah's Real Housewives of Salt Lake City co-stars have reportedly been supportive, as they filmed the aftermath of the legal drama for the show’s Season 2. Even her once BFF-turned-opposition Heather Gay said she wanted to “lean in” to the discomfort of the moment and not turn away from Shah.

Fans will supposedly see Jen Shah’s actual March arrest in the footage for Real Housewives of Salt Lake City’s second season, along with the cast’s reactions to the news and Shah’s journey from that point. But ultimately, we will have to wait and see how her trial shakes out on October 18.

However, it looks like Shah's legal team is hoping to avoid that outcome at all costs. NBC News reported that they, in fact, filed court documents for her case to be thrown out entirely. In the filings, Shah’s lawyers called it a “bare-bones superseding indictment.” They continued:

Jen Shah's legal team also stipulated several reasons for why her case should apparently be thrown out. Among them, they allege her arresting officers used “deception and trickery calculated to overpower her will,” and that the Real Housewives star was “coerced” into being interviewed by detectives.

The often-described “Ice Queen” of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, Erika Jayne, is facing similar accusations as Jen Shah. It has been speculated that she knew of her soon-to-be-ex-husband’s (Tom Girardi) alleged embezzlement activity that ultimately landed him in a Chapter 7 bankruptcy case. The TV personality denied having any prior knowledge of her husband’s business dealings. However, Page Six reported that Erika Jayne's lawyers, Dinsmore and Shohl LLP, filed to withdraw as her counsel in the case on Monday (speculated because of that ABC News special about her). The legal situations for both Jen Shah and Erika Jayne are becoming eerily coincidental. Not only are both entangled in accusations pertaining to fraud, but they also became embroiled in their drama while filming Real Housewives. Shah was arrested during Salt Lake City’s Season 2 that is still filming, and Erika Jayne was only just shown filing divorce from her husband in Beverly Hills’ Season 11 that is airing now on Bravo.

A lot has transpired since the dramatic Real Housewives of Salt Lake City’s first season and reunion specials aired earlier this year. Not only was the group still seemingly at odds, but their own Jen Shah was charged and arrested for wire fraud in March amidst ongoing filming for the show’s second season. The ladies have been rather quiet about Shah’s legal troubles, that is until co-star Heather Gay decided to break her silence on the matter.

Once-upon-a-time besties Jen Shah and Heather Gay butted heads toward the end of the Real Housewives of Salt Lake City’s freshman season. Most often, it came down to loyalty. Shah notoriously raised her hand that she could no longer trust Gay as a friend during the Las Vegas trip. It’s kind of ironic because Gay’s first public words on Shah’s legal issues are pretty loyal, in spite of their past drama. Gay said on the So Bad It’s Good podcast:

Jen Shah currently faces up to 30 years in prison if found guilty of the telemarketing scheme she is accused of alongside her co-conspirators. Already, her infamous “Shah Chalet” rental has reportedly been sold out from under her, and the reality star has had to resort to selling personalized Cameo messages and a depending on a (now defunct) GoFundMe set up by her cousin in order to pay the mounting legal fees.

Yet it sounds like Heather Gay is already anticipating the possibility of Jen Shah’s conviction. No one will know for sure, though, until Shah’s trial on October 18. But Gay confirmed that the Real Housewives of Salt Lake City captured all the currently unfolding legal issues in Season 2, and Bravo fans won’t want to miss it. She said:

She pled not guilty to the charges of wire fraud and money laundering in court, but she has since found herself in even more hot water. This time, it’s over a crowdfunding campaign in her name.

Per the Daily Mail, Jen Shah’s cousin Danny Filipe set up a $2.5 million crowdfunding campaign on GoFundMe to help Shah pay for legal fees concerning her case. He specifically asked “10,000 caring souls to donate $250.” The now-deleted campaign sparked a heavy backlash from spectators who saw it as “shameless” and “disgusting,” given the charges in question.

Jen Shah and several others are accused of participating in a telemarketing scheme that allegedly cheated hundreds, most of whom are reportedly elderly victims. So to many, this attempt to procure more funds for Shah's legal case came across a bit callous in the face of the still unfolding allegations. Even more confusing to some was Shah’s portrayal of a wealthy and glamourous lifestyle on the Real Housewives of Salt Lake City yet, here, fans are essentially being asked to bail her out of trouble.

According to Jen Shah’s cousin in the campaign’s statement, the family had up until that point spent $138,000 for her legal defense. The $2.5 million ask was to cover further expenses for her upcoming trial in October, including reviewing “over 1 million documents,” hiring experts and investigators, and payroll for legal research. This isn’t the first time that Jen Shah has been in hot water, however. She made a name for herself on the freshman season of Real Housewives of Salt Lake City by getting into several confrontations with her castmates. Shah was also implicated in a leaked audio controversy prior to her arrest, which supposedly saw her curse out and threaten a former employee.

It seems, though, that Jen Shah is hoping her Real Housewives fanbase will help her out of the legal situation. Along with the (now-defunct) crowdfunding campaign, Shah also set up a Cameo account a few weeks ago, charging $99 per personalized message from the reality star. In the past, Bravo fans have proven loyal, or at least very invested, given how they managed to delay Shah’s original arraignment hearing. It’s likely a hard pill to swallow for the reality star, but perhaps the change will benefit her trial on October 18. In the statements made by the district attorney and other officials involved in the case, they imply that Shah’s extravagant lifestyle will be at the forefront of the issue at hand.

Shah is facing up to 20-plus years in prison if she is found guilty of the fraud and money laundering charges related to an alleged telemarketing scheme led by herself, her assistant Stuart Smith and several other co-conspirators in the case.

At the same time, it is hard not to consider Jen Shah’s new post as potentially harmful and risky for her case. In the statements made by U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York about Shah’s charges, prosecutors indicated that Shah’s “extravagant” lifestyle that she portrays will be a part of the issue at hand. HSI Special Agent-in-Charge Peter C. Fitzhugh even said in his statement:

Jen Shah’s Real Housewives of Salt Lake City castmates haven’t spoken out in support of her since the news broke, which could possibly be what Shah is referring to when she says she knows who her “real friends are.” Her co-star Heather Gay seemed to be alluding to the precarious legal situation on her own Instagram, jokingly saying, “Its been quite a week...Is there anything stronger than propofol?” It seems to read like a dig, which is in direct contrast to the outpouring of fans that managed to delay Shah’s initial arraignment hearing.

Real Housewives of Salt Lake City was supposedly in the middle of filming the second season this week when Jen Shah was arrested, so maybe the other ladies cannot contractually speak publicly in support of Shah. Yet during her arraignment hearing, the judge ruled that Shah could do business outside of telemarketing in the meantime, implying she could return to filming. However, it’s hard to say if she will even want to do so, given the public frenzy surrounding the turn of events.

It didn’t happen then, though, because Real Housewives fans managed to get it delayed.

According to Fox 13 in Salt Lake City, the hearing was “shut down” because way too many Real Housewives fans “flooded” the virtual hearing for Jen Shah’s arraignment. Apparently, more than 250 people were on the call and this prevented Shah or her lawyer from getting on the line and putting in her plea of guilty or not guilty.

What’s kind of hilarious is that several unmuted mics on the line were reportedly heard referring to Real Housewives, commenting along the lines of “I’m on for the Housewives trial” or “Do you watch Bravo?” Eventually, the judge presiding, Sidney Stein, said the situation was “inadequate” and was forced to delay the proceedings.

It’s amusing to see the almighty power of Real Housewives fans in a real-world scenario. Jen Shah is probably delighted that some of her Real Housewives of Salt Lake City fan base showed up in support, in their own way, though some were likely there as just spectators. But the drama from the arraignment could also be used as fuel against Shah in the future. Her extravagant lifestyle and wealth became notorious on the show, but there’s nothing glamorous or truly helpful about shutting down federal hearings.

On Friday, the marketing executive and her assistant Stuart Smith pled not guilty to allegations that they were involved in a telemarketing scheme that defrauded hundreds of individuals, most of whom were reportedly over 55 years old. Fox 13's Ben Winslow reported on the proceedings in a lengthy Twitter thread, stating that Shah’s lawyer said,

The judge ruled that Jen Shah can be out on a $1 million personal bond, secured by $250,000 in cash or property. Shockingly, Shah could not put up the infamous “Shah Chalet” as collateral because it is actually a rental. The prosecutors apparently fought against the assertion that Shah was not a flight risk by stating that she and Stuart Smith were at “the highest level” of the scheme they are accused of, controlling $5 million in “crime proceeds.”

The most important revelation from Jen Shah’s latest arraignment for Real Housewives fans is that the controversial figure is still allowed to continue working outside of telemarketing – for the time being. This would allow Shah to continue filming with her other castmates, in theory, for Season 2 of Real Housewives of Salt Lake City that she was in the midst of before being arrested.

I said it before, and I’ll say it again: these charges should not hurt Jen Shah in the eyes of the Real Housewives franchise in the slightest. Others have become household names from similar charges. This is all, of course, moot if Shah is found guilty in court – and ends up going to prison for 20-plus years.

The legal drama has shocked many fans of the newcomer to the Real Housewives franchise, but apparently this wasn’t the first clue they were given. Andy Cohen actually asked Shah point-blank weeks ago how it was she got her money and lifestyle.

Jen Shah certainly didn’t say she got her wealth from defrauding clients, as she’s been accused. Andy Cohen first asked Shah at the wacky first Real Housewives of Salt Lake City reunion special that aired on February 10 how she got so dang rich that she could live in a sprawling chalet estate and have a multitude of assistants for her “Shah Squad.” Her answer was a bit cagey at the time:

Direct response marketing entails making a targeted offer of a product to a pre-selected or specific customer, in order to generate leads. In simpler terms, it’s like when you are offered a free trial for a Hulu subscription, but you have to set up an account with your name and email. If it still sounds confusing, you’re not the only one. Jen Shah’s Real Housewives of Salt Lake City co-star Heather Gay said at the reunion that she still didn’t understand Shah’s exact business dealings, saying, “I don’t know what she does, but I like it.”

Jen Shah’s claim that she made her money from direct response marketing can be seen in the current charges set against her. According to the Department of Justice’s U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York, Shah and Stuart Smith were indicted for “conspiracy to commit wire fraud in connection with telemarketing and conspiracy to commit money laundering,” which could result in up to 30 years in prison if found guilty. Allegedly, the two deceptively sold “business services” to “hundreds of victims,” most “over age 55.” The Manhattan U.S. Attorney Audrey Strauss said,

But Jen Shah only spent a few hours behind bars after being taken into federal custody. According to Radar Online, no bail was requested by prosecutors, but she cannot leave the state of Utah. This poses a problem, considering that the reality star was said to be in the midst of filming for a group trip for Season 2 of Real Housewives of Salt Lake City at the time of her arrest.

No doubt this is a scary situation for Jen Shah and the future of her business. However, at the very least, an arrest warrant and previous controversy can still solidify one’s place in the Real Housewives franchise – just look at Teresa Giudice. Either way, the appalled reactions to Shah’s arrest from her castmates will surely be a doozy to see in Season 2.

Her extremely short fuse was inflamed countless times while dealing with the other women of Bravo's newest spinoff, forcing the marketing executive to backpedal her angered reactions more than once. Though the first season is now over, Shah recently made headlines anew for a controversial piece of leaked audio that paints the star in more unpleasant light, and she's trying hard to sweep that situation under the metaphorical rug.

The leaked audio, which was prominently shared on social media, features a lot of cursing and threats allegedly voiced by Jen Shah, who was reportedly speaking to a former employee of her “Shah Squad.” Page Six confirmed on Thursday with Shah's lawyer David Reymann that the Real Housewives of Salt Lake City stand-out is formally issuing cease-and-desist letters to social media users that are reposting the controversial audio. According to the lawyer, the leaked content was “unlawfully acquired from the Shahs’ home security system.”

The audio in question has been circulating for a few weeks now, so a bulk of the damage is already done. Jen Shah hadn't made any public statements either condemning it or denying it, and these cease-and-desist letters technically count as her first response. That said, former employee Koa Johnson confirmed that it was him in the clip being threatened and cursed out by Shah, whom he'd worked for 10 months last year. Johnson stated,

It would appear that Jen Shah's lawyers seemingly proved that the leaked audio is legitimate, not only because they're trying to squash it from spreading, but also because they clearly stated it (perhaps unlawfully) came from Shahs’ own home security footage. That back-ended confirmation seemed to work against her clear efforts to want to make the controversy disappear entirely.

In the audio, Real Housewives of Salt Lake City Jen Shah is allegedly screaming profanities at one of her employees for not doing their job to her standards. But it seems to take a violent turn as the woman's voice says she will “beat the shit” out of the person, among other berating comments in the 13-minute-long tirade. Take this expletive-heavy quote, for instance:

Jen Shah still hasn't officially admitted that it was her in the leaked clip, to be sure, but anyone who watched this past season of Real Housewives of Salt Lake City can spot one of Shah's nuclear-level tantrum from miles away. Shah was seen throughout the season getting verbally and physically heated with her other castmates. At one point, Jen Shah broke a glass at her husband's birthday party after she was told that the other ladies were “afraid” of her. She also was seen getting in the faces of the other women during the Vegas trip, and even slightly pushing co-star Heather Gay.

Jen Shah is notorious now from Real Housewives of Salt Lake City for anger that pushes her into screaming matches. But we also learned from the reunion that Shah felt pushed and stereotyped in those circumstances due to being one of the only women of color (alongside Mary Cosby) in a group of white women. That doesn't excuse the behavior heard in the leaked audio, but it might give Shah's fans reason to pause and wonder about the validity or reason behind the leak.

It has been quiet on Jen Shah’s Twitter since the reunion aired. But the streets are hot for the reality star – perhaps she's keeping a low profile until Real Housewives of Salt Lake City Season 2 to give her side of the matter.
