Jeremy Renner was in a serious snowplow accident in 2023 that was near-fatal. And yet, the actor has since gone back to work on Mayor of Kingstown (which is expected to return on the 2026 TV schedule), done a movie and put out a memoir detailing his rehabilitation after the incident. He's made the bounce back from 38 broken bones and tissue damage look easy from the outside in, but in a new interview, he got honest about the fallout of the accident.

Back in January, Renner marked three years since the accident by joking about it, but it sounds like the experience continues to ricochet through his life and has given the 55-year-old a whole new perspective. In his words:

Renner’s recovery has been an extremely inspiring one. Just three months after he was run over by his seven-ton snowplow on his property in Nevada, he began to walk again – first with the assistance of an anti-gravity treadmill. A year after the event, he returned to work on Mayor of Kingstown and even did some of his own stunts on the crime thriller.

That being said, he’s also stepped back from some things he might have more readily signed up for prior and thinks he'll always "be in recovery". These days, he's very picky about the projects he takes on because he wants to stay close to family, and he only said yes to a role in Wake Up Dead Man because he was able to bring along some family members during the London shoot. He also said this in the Fox News interview:

The actor also shared that he's regularly using hyperbaric chambers and getting red light therapy and peptide treatments to assist in his recovery. All that plus a "positive mindset" is currently helping him through his continued recovery.

Renner is also in the midst of filming Mayor of Kingstown Season 5 in Pittsburgh with Edie Falco, David Morse and Nestor Carbonell. The final season is expected to be eight episodes long. Here’s his latest post on Instagram as he continues to film the Paramount+ show:

The actor has claimed that he’s not going to be in Avengers: Doomsday with OG Avenger actors and real-life friends Robert Downey Jr and Chris Evans. But as per usual, when it comes to Marvel Studios projects, we never quite know who’s going to show up. Doomsday hits theaters on December 18, but Renner doesn't need to put on a costume anymore to prove he can accomplish incredible things.

Actor Jeremy Renner has had a long and wildly successful career, including his tenure as Hawkeye in the MCU (which is streaming with a Disney+ subscription). While fans are hoping to see him return in upcoming Marvel movies, the public will also recall Renner's terrifying snowplow accident from 2023 that left him hospitalized with a ton of broken bones and other serious injuries. Luckily, he recovered, and now he's at the point where he can poke fun at the drama years later.

Fans, especially those who watched the Marvel movies in order, were super concerned about the actor's health after that accident, and have been following his recovery for years. Renner wrote about it in his memoir, and more recently took to Instagram Story to joke about it all. Check it out below:

Despite the trauma and pain of this incident, it's nice to see that the 54-year-old actor has a good sense of humor about that infamous snowplow accident. Actually seeing the vehicle itself shows just how big and heavy it was when Renner was crushed underneath it just a few years ago, and it looks like he's back to spending New Year's in the Lake Tahoe area. Seems like not even that terrifying incident is going to stop him from enjoying those traditions.

Jeremy Renner used a few cheeky emojis in addition to his message that he wasn't going to be using the snowplow, seemingly due to some rain on the mountain. Although the message of "not today" has a double meaning when considering just how terrifying his injuries were just three years ago. But he's recovered physically, and is also seemingly in a good place about that incident mentally... enough that he's able to poke fun at himself and share the message with his whopping 19.9 million followers on Instagram.

Since doing the intense work to recover from his injuries, Renner has returned to acting... to the delight of his generations of fans. While we wait to see if/when he appears as Hawkeye, he continues to star in Mayor of Kingstown (streaming with a Paramount+ subscription) and also appeared in Rian Johnson's Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery (which is streaming with a Netflix subscription). The latter particularly turned heads, especially considering Renner's mention in Glass Onion.

Of course, all eyes are on the next time he'll take up the bow and arrow as Hawkeye in the MCU. Renner was noticeably missing from the Avengers: Doomsday cast announcement, but there were additional rumors that he might have a role in that highly anticipated blockbuster. He's one of just a handful of OG Avengers who are still alive in-universe, which is why fans are hoping to see him in the action of the Russo Brothers' next Marvel movie. But since he was absent from Infinity War, there's no guarantee he'll appear.

All will be revealed when Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters on December 18th as part of the 2026 movie release list. For now, Renner's many fans are happy that he's in good health and able to joke about his infamous snowplow accident three years after that terrifying event.

Mayor of Kingstown has come to a close on the 2025 TV schedule, and unlike MOK’s Season 3 ending, Season 4 left us on a high(ish) note. Of course, since this is Kingstown, the ending was intense, dark and gruesome; however, it closed with a scene between Mike (Jeremy Renner) and Kyle (Taylor Handley) that was so loving I had to ask the cast about it. And during that discussion, I was pleasantly surprised to learn that Renner actually improvised it.

In the final moments of a brutal season of Mayor of Kingstown, Kyle, who was in prison for most of it, is finally out, and he gets to take Merle Callahan (Richard Brake) out. Rather than Mike taking out this season’s big bad, his little brother gets to do it, which makes sense considering Kyle was tormented by Merle all season in prison. Then, after it’s all over, the McLusky brothers hug on the train tracks and the season ends.

I was quite moved by this moment, and knew I had to ask Taylor Handley about it. I was surprised to learn that it was actually improvised by Renner, and the Kyle actor told me the story behind how it all happened, explaining:

The death of Merle really feels like a big moment of closure for Mike and Kyle. They’d both been dealing with the corruptness of the prison system for years, and over the course of four seasons, it’s led to a lot of death and destruction in their family.

Merle was one of the biggest pains for them. So seeing him dead and the two brothers walking away victorious was momentous. Then, having them share a hug on the train tracks after it was all over felt perfect. They could finally breathe.

Initially, it wasn’t scripted that way, though. In fact, that hug was improvised by Renner, and Handley described what it was like to play all that out with him, saying:

In the moment, you can see Kyle kind of let go and lean into his brother as they share a hug. Considering everything he’d specifically been through this season, it was particularly impactful.

Handley explained that to me as well. He noted that Mike hugging his character was exactly what he needed, and he was glad his co-star thought of it. In his words:

After a season that saw power shift in Kingstown with the new warden and power players, like Merle, trying to cause chaos, it was nice to finally see the McLusky’s get some closure. They deserve it after all these seasons filled with death and destruction.

So, I’m happy this great Paramount+ show ended on a high note (or at least high by Kingstown standards), and now I’m curious to see how Mike and Kyle’s story continues if Mayor of Kingstown gets a fifth season.

I get it, connecting the Knives Out movies to the Marvel Cinematic Universe's movies feels random and potentially illogical. However, now that we’re three mysteries deep with Benoit Blanc thanks to the release of Wake Up Dead Man on the 2025 movie schedule, a pattern has been created that makes this connection undeniable. So, without further ado, let's talk about the fan theory involving Rian Johnson’s beloved whodunnits and how the MCU plays into their outcomes.

Why Is There A Fan Theory That Mixes Knives Out With Marvel?

Alright, this all starts with the Knives Out cast, including Chris Evans. When that movie came out in 2019, he was the only actor in the ensemble connected to the MCU, and his character, Ransom, killed Christopher Plummer’s Harlan.

Now, cut to 2022. Glass Onion was released, and it featured notable Marvel movie stars Edward Norton, who was in The Incredible Hulk before Mark Ruffalo took over as Bruce Banner, and Dave Bautista, AKA Drax from Guardians of the Galaxy. Notably, the cast also included Kathryn Hahn, who was in WandaVision and Agatha All Along, and Jessica Henwick, who appeared in The Defenders, Luke Cage and Iron Fist. However, those are shows, and this pattern only pertains to actors who starred in MCU movies.

In Glass Onion, Edward Norton’s Miles ended up killing both Bautista’s Duke Cody and Janelle Monáe’s Andi.

So, this all created the theory – which An0nym355 summarized on Reddit – that if a Marvel Cinematic Universe movie actor is in a Knives Out mystery, they will be either the killer or a victim and never an innocent survivor or bystander. An important distinction to make here is that not every victim is an MCU star. Rather, every time a MCU performer has been in one of Rian Johnson’s films, they have either done the killing or been killed. Now, with the release of Wake Up Dead Man, there’s even more merit to this connection.

How Wake Up Dead Man Perfectly Plays Into This Theory

When Josh Brolin and Jeremy Renner were cast in Wake Up Dead Man, I was immediately thinking about this theory. However, I didn’t realize at the time that Glenn Close and Thomas Haden Church were also MCU movie alums.

That’s right, along with Brolin playing the big bad Thanos and Renner portraying Hawkeye for years, Glenn Close played Nova Prime in Guardians of the Galaxy, and Thomas Haden Church was Sandman in both Spider-Man 3 and the MCU’s Spider-Man: No Way Home.

I will note that they aren't the only actors in Wake Up Dead Man with Marvel connections; however, they are the only four MCU movie stars. Kerry Washington was in 2005’s Fantastic Four and 2007’s Fantastic Four: Rise of Silver Surfer. Also, Jeffrey Wright voices a character in the series What If…? Neither of their characters was involved in the crimes of Wake Up Dead Man. However, neither of them is an MCU movie actor, either. Washington’s Marvel movies aren’t technically in the MCU – even though Chris Evans’ Human Torch does appear in Deadpool and Wolverine. Meanwhile, Wright has only ever appeared in Marvel TV shows.

With all that being said, I thought this third Knives Out mystery would deviate from the potential pattern due to all these muddy Marvel waters. However, it did not at all; in fact, it made the theory even stronger.

In the whodunnit, the four actors with ties to MCU movies were involved in the crime. Both Josh Brolin’s Monsignor Wicks and Thomas Haden Chruch’s Samson Holt died. And the people responsible for those deaths wound up being Glenn Close’s Martha Delacroix and Jeremy Renner’s Dr. Nat Sharp.

So, in the most brilliant of ways, the well-reviewed Wake Up Dead Man played right into this fan-favorite Marvel theory while also making it more complicated and twisty. Therefore, if we ever get another Knives Out mystery, make sure you pay close attention to the cast and their connections to the MCU.

Thanksgiving may be over, but there may still be people who are celebrating this weekend, including Jeremy Renner. Like so many of us, it would appear that Renner has been in the holiday spirit as of late, but that’s not all. Renner also took a moment to pay homage to his superhero roots while alluding to his plans for the post-T-giving weekend. He specifically did that by referencing a very specific moment from the Marvel Cinematic Universe to illustrate his point.

I’m not sure about any of you, but there’s one particular habit my family has when it comes to the weekend after Thanksgiving – indulging in leftovers. In his recent Instagram post, Jeremy Renner didn’t get into specifics about what he did over the Thanksgiving holiday or what exactly he was planning to do over the weekend. However, the Oscar nominee seemed to allude to his plans while making a suggestion to his social media followers. And, if his caption is any indication, it seems vittles may be involved:

Leftovers and a movie honestly sound really great right about now. The icing on the cake (and excuse my food-related saying), though, was that Renner’s post also playfully paid homage to one of the best food scenes in the MCU. The actor – who’s long portrayed Clint Barton/Hawkeye in the superhero franchise – screenshotted an Instagram story post from Marvel’s official account, and it can be checked out below:

Hardcore MCU fans could probably guess the scene that Jeremy Renner’s post pertained to – the now-iconic shawarma scene from 2012’s The Avengers. That particular moment serves as the post-credits stinger for the Joss Whedon-helmed superhero flick and sees Earth’s Mightiest Heroes solemnly chowing down after saving New York from Loki and the Chitauri. I honestly can’t think of a better scene to signify the Thanksgiving holiday.

In the 13 years since Avengers hit theaters, some interesting behind-the-scenes details have surfaced in regard to the shawarma scene. One of the most interesting tidbits about the scene, for example, pertains to Captain America actor Chris Evans. In the scene, the clean-shaved Steve Rogers notably sits with his fist covering his face and doesn’t eat. That was because the scene was shot late in the game, and Evans had already begun growing a beard for his next movie at that time, Snowpiercer. This scene still makes me chuckle to this day, and I love that it’s remained culturally relevant.

At this point, though, I’m wondering if there will be time for shawarma in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday. Plot details are being kept tightly under wraps, and the stars are seemingly keeping their lips zipped. Jeremy Renner has played coy about whether he’ll appear in the film and even humorously shot down the notion when fellow MCU alum Brie Larson asked him.

I’m not sure whether Renner has more appearances as Clint on his plate (so to speak), but I can definitely see him fixing an actual plate this weekend and enjoying some leftovers. If he does, I hope his food is delicious and any movie he chooses to watch is entertaining. Anyone who wants to indulge in their own leftovers and watch The Avengers or other MCU movies can stream them with a Disney+ subscription.

Although Marvel Comics’ version of Thor has been battling evildoers in the pages of comic books since 1962, it’s no secret that the character got a significant boost in popularity thanks to Chris Hemsworth’s portrayal of him in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Hemsworth debuted as the God of Thunder in 2011’s Thor, then returned a year later for The Avengers. Thor, of course, wields Mjolnir in battle, and while that hammer may strike fear into the hearts of his enemies, it was a joke to the Avengers actors early on, Hemsworth included.

Because the Mjolnir that Chris Hemsworth used on The Avengers set was made of foam, he and the other Avengers actor couldn’t help but make fun of it. Jeremy Renner, who plays Clint Barton/Hawkeye in the MCU, revealed this while appearing at a Florida Supercon panel (via Popverse), saying:

You have to remember that when The Avengers came out, the MCU was four years old and has only released five movies prior. Sure, superhero movies had been popular for well over a decade, and it was a game-changer to have such heroes come together for a team-up like this in a blockbuster movie, as opposed to seeing established teams like the X-Men and Fantastic Four. But even so, the MCU hadn’t yet become the pop culture staple we know it as today, so for Jeremy Renner, Chris Hemsworth and the other actors, they couldn’t help but poke fun at the superhero-y ridiculousness while making The Avengers.

To be honest, if I was in their shoes and unfamiliar with the Marvel Comics source material, I probably would have done the same thing. Frankly, even knowing what I do about Thor, I’d probably still want to play around with that foam hammer if given the opportunity. Still, when it comes to those who live in the MCU, they better give Mjolnir the respect it deserves. And, if you’re among the very few who are considered worthy, like Steve Rogers and Vision, you may even get to pick it up yourself.

Jeremy Renner went on to say during the panel that he and his castmates eventually realized the importance of the Marvel mythology and how it means so much to the fans. But for Renner, his “biggest takeaway” from working on The Avengers, and the MCU as a whole, is how much he treasures his friendships with actors Chris Hemsworth, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Chris Evans and Mark Ruffalo, among others. In this case, it really is about the friends you make along the way.

Hemsworth and Downey will reunite in December 2026 for the upcoming Marvel movie Avengers: Doomsday, though the latter will now be playing Doctor Doom. While there’s been no official mention of Renner being involved in the next Avengers movie, he did visit the set over the summer while he was in London for his book tour. He also sounds optimistic about Hawkeye Season 2’s chances, so we’ll let you know if that next batch of episodes moves forwards.

The superhero genre has been dominating pop culture for years now, and is showing no signs of slowing down. While the MCU and newly formed DCU are competing at the box office, the X-Men movies are in the rear view. Jennifer Lawrence starred as Mystique for four installments, which are all streaming with a Disney+ subscription. But it turns out that she's actually related to one of the original Avengers, and my mind is officially blown.

Fans who spent years watching the Marvel movies in order have a special love for its heroes, especially the original Avengers lineup. They'll likely be interested in the news Lawrence broke while promoting her new movie Die My Love with Robert Pattinson for MUBI. Because while talking with her co-star she revealed:

Do you hear that sound? It's Marvel fans' minds being collectively blown. The fact that Renner and Lawrence are not only related, but that they only found out recently is bonkers. And suddenly I want to see them appear in upcoming Marvel movies together. Bring on the familial crossovers!

While J Law didn't offer much context, I'm curious about exactly how she's related to Renner, as well as how they found out. Was this an 23 and me situation that connected the two celebs, or did they chat one day and find out this connection? I'm sure I'm not the only one with these questions.

While Renner was confirmed in the Avengers: Doomsday cast announcement, Jennifer Lawrence's tenure as Mystique has come to an end. Instead, we'll see OG actress Rebecca Romijn return to the role in The Russo Brothers' mysterious blockbuster. So while Hawkeye and Mystique could potentially share a scene, it unfortunately won't be the third cousins. Womp womp.

I have so many questions about Lawrence's relationship to the Hawkeye star, including specifically when hey figured out about being cousins. Was it before Renner's infamous snowplow incident that landed him in the hospital? And if so, what was her reaction to his extensive injuries? Seriously my mind is spinning out over them being related.

While comic book fans like me will likely think about the potential crossover of seeing Lawrence's Mystique come face to face with Renner's Hawkeye, it does seem unlikely. J Law suffered from skin rashes as a result of her character's extensive makeup, which is why we saw her in her non-blue form so often throughout her mutant movies. And with the MCU forming a new X-Men flick, it's not looking good for fans who want the Hunger Games star back in that role.

The X-Men movies are streaming on Disney+ and Renner will return to the MCU when Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters on December 18th of next year as part of the 2026 movie release list.

Avengers: Endgame already swings for the fences, especially when it comes to endings, but Hawkeye actor Jeremy Renner says one of the movie’s heaviest moments almost went even bigger. According to the star, Natasha Romanoff’s sacrifice on Vormir was first conceived and shot as a large-scale, “galactic” skirmish until changes had to be made. And, in a recent interview, the man behind Hawkeye explains why he’s glad they made the change.

Renner shared the behind-the-scenes nugget during a Space Con 2025 panel (via Popverse), saying that before Marvel reshot the sequence into the intimate, two-friends-on-a-cliff goodbye fans know, they planned for a whole lot more alien action. He explained:

If that sounds familiar, it’s because Marvel has flirted with an action-heavy Vormir cut before. When Endgame hit home release and later streaming for fans with a Disney+ subscription, viewers saw an alternate sequence where Thanos’ forces crash the party and Black Widow sprints through blaster fire before making the soul-for-a-soul leap. It’s cool, chaotic, and very MCU—but it also trades quiet devastation for spectacle. That version has circulated in special features and coverage since 2019–2020.

Renner says the simpler approach landed the emotional beat the filmmakers were chasing. He continued:

That tracks with how the Russos and writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely have talked about Endgame’s biggest deaths: when the movie goes quiet, it goes for the jugular. The theatrical Vormir sequence narrows to two friends wrestling—literally—over who gets to make the sacrifice play. No armies. No cavalry. Just Natasha and Clint, a final nod to the smallest-scale bond in Earth’s Mightiest roster.

It’s been a minute since longtime fans of all the Marvel movies have seen Jeremy Renner suit up as Clint. His last on-screen appearance was the Hawkeye series finale on December 22, 2021, which has fueled speculation about a surprise return in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday. Don’t ask the Mayor of Kingstown star for spoilers, though. As he joked to Brie Larson when pressed about a cameo: “No, girl.” Then again, in a universe where Andrew Garfield-level denials are part of the game, never say never.

If Jeremy Renner never returns (which feels unlikely), his legacy is secure. Moments like Natasha’s sacrifice on Vormir rank among the MCU’s most powerful—thanks in part to the Russo brothers knowing when to dial down the spectacle and let intimacy carry the scene.

Jeremy Renner’s Mike might be the Mayor of Kingstown, but in some ways, there’s a new mayor in town, as Edie Falco’s prison warden was introduced in Season 4’s premiere on the 2025 TV schedule. I say that because her character, Nina Hobbs, is not someone in Mike’s corner; in fact, she’s a pretty big adversary. So, I asked both Renner and Falco about how their characters’ tense first meeting impacts their stories for the rest of the season.

In the Season 4 premiere, Mike goes to meet Nina at her office right after she starts the job and right as his brother Kyle is going to prison. Immediately, it’s clear that they aren’t on the same page.

Renner’s character is throwing out orders left and right to “ensure” his brother has a “soft landing” when he gets behind bars. Then he tells Nina that if she helps him, he’ll reciprocate that. However, she’s not buying it and tells the mayor:

That line hit hard, and while Mike played it cool, there’s no question that that shook him up a bit. He’s used to having all the power players under his control. So, I asked Renner about how that line forced his character to change his game. In response, he told me:

The Avengers actor went on to explain that, considering what happened at the end of Mayor of Kingstown Season 3, Mike is on a mission to protect his brother. Kyle is going to prison after shooting Robert, and he can’t do much about that. However, he can try to protect him. Nina is getting in his way, though. That frustrates Renner’s character, as he told me:

It’s certainly intense to watch. It turns out that the word can be used to describe Nina’s feelings about this meeting with Mike, too. When I asked Falco, the newest A-lister to join a Taylor Sheridan show, about her character’s feelings after this interaction, she made it clear that Nina meant what she said. The Nurse Jackie actress explained:

She certainly means business, and it’s very clear that she won’t let Mike get in her way. However, it’s also obvious that he won’t be stopped either.

We knew we were already in for a wild ride this season because Kyle was headed to prison. It was promised that the past “reloads” on Mike, and it feels like this situation with his brother and the new warden could be a reason why that happens.

A lot of people have a lot of questions about next year’s Avengers: Doomsday, and apparently, that includes people who are already in the MCU. While we already know who will make up the bulk of the Avengers: Doomsday cast, there are some stars whose fates are unclear, and even Brie Larson wants to know.

One name that was conspicuously absent from the Doomsday cast list was Jeremy Renner. Despite the fact that he was in London at the same time Doomsday was filming there, there has been no confirmation that he will be in the movie. In a recent interview on SiriusXM, Renner got asked a question by a previous guest, who is also an MCU star, and she tried to get him to spill the beans, asking…

The question alone is hilarious. Considering that Brie Larson is getting asked this question on a regular basis a well, and she must know that Jeremy Renner has to field it all the time, her being the one to ask the question is funny. She's basically just adding to the pile on. Of course, Renner’s response is even funnier when he asks…

To be fair, asking who’s in Avengers: Doomsday is a fair question because Marvel keeps so many secrets that often the other stars don’t know what’s happening in the film. Brie Larson may legitimately not know the answer, and so she's honestly curious. Simu Liu admitted that while he knew he would be in the film when the major casting announcement was made, every other name revealed was a surprise to him. Alan Cumming admitted that he filmed fight scenes not even knowing who he was fighting.

The fact that Jeremy Renner and Brie Larson haven’t been announced either means they’re not in the film or that we’re not to know they’re in the film. Whichever one it is, these two MCU stars are clearly having some fun with each other over the open question.

What makes the whole thing even funnier is that both Larson and Renner may know whether or not each other will be in Avengers: Doomsday. Larson might be asking a question she actually knows the answer to, whether or not either of them are in the film.

It’s possible that some members of the Avengers: Doomsday cast won’t be revealed until we sit down in theaters to watch it in about 14 months. If Jeremy Renner and Brie Larson aren’t in, that’s fine, because we can start up the entire debate again soon since Avengers: Secret Wars is likely to begin filming before too long.

So, I asked Jeremy Renner about how his former co-stars continue to support each other in all walks of life, and his response about connecting with them in London leaves me wondering about the timing.

At this point, it’s very well known that Avengers: Doomsday has been filming in London for a while. Meanwhile, over the last year, Jeremy Renner has been working on Season 4 of Mayor of Kingstown and promoting his book, My Next Breath. He also took that book on a tour over the summer and made a stop in London. While there, he met up with some of the upcoming Marvel movie’s cast. Recalling that reunion, he told me the following during an interview for CinemaBlend:

This response came after I asked Renner about Robert Downey Jr. supporting his book's release. I also asked him if he had the chance to catch up with the Doctor Doom actor about Doomsday. It turns out, he hasn't just talked to him about it; he met up with some of the cast in London, where the movie is being made.

For context, the Hurt Locker actor was in London in mid-June for his book tour. He stopped at Cadogan Hall on June 12, specifically to chat about My Next Breath. As he told me, that trip also allowed him to “break bread” with “all of the boys” working on Doomsday.

So, considering all this, it’s hard not to wonder if there are dots worth connecting. Even though the Avengers: Doomsday chair livestream revealed an absolutely massive cast of heroes set to star in the upcoming Marvel movie, there are still tons of theories flying around about others who could join them.

When it comes to Renner specifically, there has been quite a bit of curiosity around whether he’ll ever return to the MCU in general as Clint Barton. That’s because, back in July of 2024 (which was months before the chair live stream), when he was asked about Doomsday and Secret Wars, he told Us Weekly that he’d “probably be doing it” if they could figure it all out. More recently, he was also asked if he’d ever play Hawkeye again, and he said he’s “always game to do it.”

So, his return isn’t out of the question, and his trip to London for his book has me speculating about the chance he’ll appear in Doomsday. Of course, that’s not confirmed, and as far as we know, he’s not in the cast. However, the timing was pretty perfect, and I can’t help but fantasize about another OG Avenger joining this ensemble.

Speaking of that 2012 Avengers cast, we know Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston will all be in Doomsday. Other actors who were in Avengers: Infinity War and/or Endgame – like Paul Rudd, Sebastian Stan and Anthony Mackie – will appear too. Alongside them, we’ll get to see some of the X-Men, the Fantastic Four and the Thunderbolts (I mean New Avengers) in the movie as well.

However, despite the already massive cast, there are still theories and questions about who else could show up. But we’ll just have to wait for Doomsday’s release on December 18, 2026, to see who appears and who doesn’t. And while there are question marks surrounding all that, one thing I feel like we can bet on is that, whether they’re in the film or not, people like Jeremy Renner will likely show up to support his fellow heroes and vice versa, just like they did on his trip to London.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe keeps delivering new content for fans, both in theaters and streaming with a Disney+ subscription. The most highly anticipated upcoming Marvel movie is Avengers: Doomsday, which will feature a giant ensemble cast and multiple teams of heroes. Jeremy Renner is set to return as Hawkeye, and recently shared what his signature character is up to prior to the Russo Brothers' blockbuster.

What we know about Avengers: Doomsday is super limited, and fans are curious for any news about the beloved heroes who are involved. The Doomsday cast announcement confirmed Renner's involvement, although we haven't seen Clint Barton since the Hawkeye finale back in 2021. In an interview with ComicBook, the 54 year-old actor shared what the beloved hero has been doing since then, saying:

Honestly, this guy deserves a break. The OG Avenger has spent a long time fighting the evils of the MCU, including the trauma of his family being dusted by Thanos. So after the events of Hawkeye, he's earned some much needed rest and yet another (temporary) retirement. Of course, when Robert Downey Jr.'s Doctor Doom comes knocking, Hawkeye will once again pick up his bow and arrow to help keep the multiverse safe.

Hawkeye has been in the MCU since back in 2011's Thor, where he had a small role that set up his eventual inclusion in The Avengers. Moviegoers who spent years watching the Marvel movies in order have a ton of love for him as a result, and are eager to see him return to the shared universe in live-action. And with so few of the OG Avengers still kicking, his mysterious role in Doomsday comes with a long legacy.

The Arrival actor's return to the MCU is all the more exciting after Jermey Renner's snowplow incident, which broke a ton of bones and landed him in the hospital for months. Fans wondered if we'd ever see Hawkeye again, but he worked on recovery and returned to acting. We'll just have to wait and see what the beloved character gets into during Avengers: Doomsday's mysterious runtime.

There are countless questions about what The Russo Brothers have up their sleeves for Doomsday. It should be fascinating to see how the various superhero teams interact, namely The Avengers, the Thunderbolts aka New Avengers, the Fantastic Four, and the X-Men. With the multiverse at play just about anything could happen, and there are a ton of rumors and theories about what might go down.

All will be revealed when Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters on December 18th of next year as part of the 2026 movie release list. Hopefully Hawkeye survives; Jeremy Renner's comments about him dying makes me kinda nervous.

The last few years have seen titles like Ms. Marvel and Moon Knight become subject to such speculation. Hawkeye, the 2021 series headlined by Jeremy Renner and Hailee Steinfeld, has also been at the center of that buzz. Nothing official has been announced, but Renner just dropped a very positive update. However, I still have a concern about a potential second season.

What Did Jeremy Renner Say About Doing Hawkeye Season 2?

The Marvel Cinematic Universe’s longtime Clint Barton actor has been asked about doing Hawkeye Season 2 for some time now. On varying occasions, Renner has gone back and forth and, earlier this year, the actor dropped a bomb when he said he and Marvel Studios met about doing it. However, Renner alleged he was offered a low salary to reprise his role as one of the OG Avengers. Yet during a panel at Florida SuperCon (via Popverse) Renner expressed an interest in donning his bow and arrow again:

Hawkeye, in my humble opinion, is one of the more delightful Marvel Cinematic Universe-set titles released for Disney+ subscription holders. Set during the holiday season, the show (promoted as a limited series) sees Clint teaming up with aspiring archer Kate Bishop to contend with the Tracksuit Mafia in New York. Aside from the fun introduction of Hailee Steinfeld’s Kate, what makes the show solid is that it adds layers to Clint. For his part, Jeremy Renner relished that:

Another season would come years after Jeremy Renner’s snowplow accident, which saw the Oscar winner get run over by his 14,000 pound Snowcat while trying to save his nephew from being struck. That unfortunate ordeal took place in 2023 and, despite some health setbacks at that point, the A-lister seems to be doing well now. He’s even reached the point where he’s crushing gym reps. As important as Renner’s health and well-being are in general, though, that’s not the concern I have about more Hawkeye episodes.

There’s One Reason I’m Cautiously Optimistic About Hawkeye Season 2

If there’s any critique I have about Marvel’s Multiverse Saga of films and TV shows, it’s that some of the stories have been underwhelming. Many of the productions have good ideas, but they don’t always make for strong narratives overall. When it comes to the small-screen entries, Secret Invasion, Moon Knight and Echo had varying levels of writing-related issues. So, when it comes to a theoretical second season of Clint Barton’s show, I’d love for the producers to have a strong story in mind that justifies new episodes.

Let’s face it, some of the tales that have been told in recent MCU fare have felt a bit undercooked. Nevertheless, maybe there is indeed a strong story to tell when it comes to the cinematic universe’s pair of archers. Maybe the creative team could take inspiration from 2021’s Hawkeye: Kate Bishop series, in which Kate is recruited by her estranged older sister, Susan, to solve a mystery involving a luxury resort. I’m sure the writers could even find a way to organically bring Clint into the picture.

Of course, for any of that to actually materialize, Marvel Studios would actually have to greenlight a second season, and that seems to be far from a sure thing at this point. But, who knows, maybe Jeremy Renner’s enthusiasm and lingering fan interest can help will the season into existence. I’m hoping that if that happens, a new season of Hawkeye would hit the mark (no pun intended) from a narrative standpoint.

Jeremy Renner’s casting in Rian Johnson’s Wake Up, Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery immediately raised a deliciously nerdy question: how does a guy who was already a hilarious punchline in Glass Onion, playing himself in the now infamous “Jeremy Renner Hot Sauce,” now show up as a flesh-and-blood character without breaking the bit? The actor explains how his new role works in relation to this ridiculous Glass Onion cameo.

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly at TIFF, the Hawkeye actor joked about the whole continuity issue. He made it clear this was never his problem to figure out, and here’s what he had to say:

Benoit Blanc is back for another mystery, and that means Rian Johnson has assembled an Avengers-like cast of A-listers to build the ensemble of his latest whodunnit. I reference Marvel for a reason, too, because Jeremy Renner, Hawkeye himself and a member of the Wake Up Dead Man cast, recently compared working on Knives Out 3 to the MCU for reasons that make total sense.

The 2025 movie schedule is about to be graced with Rian Johnson’s latest mystery, which means the giant and star-studded cast is starting to do press for it. This includes Jeremy Renner, who is no stranger to being part of a big ensemble. So, while chatting about signing on to this Knives Out mystery with Variety, he explained how that process was similar to working for Marvel:

Marvel famously keeps their scripts under lock and key, and in some cases, the actors don’t even know the full extent of the scenes they’re shooting. While it’s unclear if that was fully the case on Wake Up Dead Man, it sounds like Renner did say yes to making the movie without reading the full script.

However, considering the reputation of Knives Out and Glass Onion, it’s not surprising that actors would say yes to the next film in this series without knowing the complete story. Plus, the last thing you’d want is who did it getting out into the world. So the secrecy is warranted. On top of that, Rian Johnson and Daniel Craig have set quite the precedent with these modern whodunnits, and Renner touched on that, saying:

That “pedigree” and cast of “kickass actors” is also something the MCU is known for, too. Just take a look at the Avengers: Doomsday cast, and you’ll see what I mean. Or, for a more fitting example, think about Renner’s involvement in the original Avengers film or Endgame. Those casts were insanely stacked with Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo and more, and the reputation surrounding the movies was incredible. Even if the actors didn’t know exactly what they were signing up for, they likely knew they were going to be in something good.

I think the same can be assumed for Wake Up Dead Man. Reviews for both Knives Out and Glass Onion were solid, and the casts for them were next level, with A-listers like Chris Evans, Jamie Lee Curtis, Edward Norton, Kate Hudson and many, many more involved.

This third mystery from Johnson also features a “kickass” cast, to nobody's surprise. Alongside Renner, his fellow MCU alum, Josh Brolin, will be in Knives Out 3. They’ll also be featured in the film alongside Josh O’Connor, Glenn Close, Mila Kunis, Kerry Washington, Andrew Scott, Cailee Spaeny, Daryl McCormack and Thomas Haden Church. That’s an Avengers-level ensemble if you ask me.

So, yeah, it totally tracks to me that the Hawkeye star would compare his upcoming movie to working for Marvel. It’s a top-secret, highly anticipated and star-studded endeavor.

Now, I’m even more excited to see Wake Up Dead Man, too, because the hype is clearly so real for it if we’re out here comparing it to the MCU. So, you best believe I’ll be in theaters on November 26 to see the film on the big screen, and then I’ll likely be watching it again with a Netflix subscription come December 12.

The writer, director, and showrunner who built the Yellowstone empire of mainline and spinoff series has already proven he can dominate television, but now one of his best big-screen works is finding new life on streaming. A gripping crime thriller from 2017 is climbing the charts thanks to those with a Netflix subscription, and it more than earns the attention it’s getting.

Currently sitting at a rock-solid 87% on Rotten Tomatoes, millions of subscribers are rediscovering Wind River, many of whom may have missed its initial release, as its No. 5 place in the US Top Ten proves. The film stars Avengers veterans, Jeremy Renner and Elizabeth Olsen, reuniting the pair outside the Marvel Cinematic Universe movies for a far grittier story set in the remote, snow-swept landscape of Wyoming.

At the end of Mayor of Kingstown Season 3, it was pretty clear that power structures were about to be shaken up. Now, with Edie Falco and more joining the cast, it would appear that new potential power players are part of the equation. However, the past will play into that too, as co-creator and Ian actor Hugh Dillon said that the past won’t just “catch up” this season; it will reload. And that has led me to a theory about Jeremy Renner’s character and his history as an inmate.

What Hugh Dillon Said About How The Past Will Impact Mayor Of Kingstown Season 4

With Mayor of Kingstown making its return to the 2025 TV schedule on October 26, Hugh Dillon is hyping up what’s coming next. As always, it sounds very intense; however, this season, it seems like we’ll be diving into the past in a way we haven’t before, as the co-creator told EW:

Dillon also called this season “a detonation, not an escalation,” which implies to me that all the tension that’s been building up for three seasons will hit a breaking point. I think we’ll hit that, too, by diving into Mike’s past in prison. So, let’s talk about why.

I’m Theorizing That The Time Jeremy Renner’s Character Spent In Prison Will Be Important This Season

For Mayor of Kingstown’s entire run – which you can watch with a Paramount+ subscription – Mike’s past has been present. It’s made clear on many occasions that he used to be a prisoner, and his family’s history with the prison system and law enforcement deeply impacts what happens on the show. However, there's still a lot we don't know about his time, specifically, behind bars.

Plus, the past has literally come back to haunt characters, as we saw Aidan Gillen’s Milo return last season.

So, in Season 4, I’m theorizing that Mike’s past in prison is going to be paramount to the plot.

That’s because Mike’s little brother, Kyle, is in prison. He was arrested at the end of Season 3 for shooting a fellow SWAT member who was seemingly about to kill an innocent person. I feel like this will send Mike into a spiral, and I could easily picture the series looking back on his time behind bars as he frantically figures out how to save his brother. The parallels are just too good to pass up on.

So, I’m theorizing that that’s what Dillon was referring to when he said the past will reload. The parallel of these siblings' situations is haunting, and with a new warden having to come in after Kareem’s death and the constant power struggle in Kingstown, this feels like a ripe story from the past that’s been waiting to be dug up.

After making his return to the television space last year for the first time since his snowplow accident with Mayor of Kingstown Season 3, Jeremy Renner is months away from appearing in his first movie since 2019’s Avengers: Endgame (minus a voice cameo in Black Widow). Renner is contributing to the 2025 movies schedule by starring in Rian Johnson’s Wake Up Dead Man, i.e. Knives Out 3. However, he only agreed to do this Netflix subscription-exclusive feature for one reason, and it had to do with him reevaluating his professional life following the accident.

Following his physical recovery after nearly dying from the snowplow that ran over him on January 1, 2023, Renner decided that he wouldn’t take on a project if it didn’t line up with his family priorities. Luckily for him, Wake Up Dead Man filled that criteria, as he informed Empire while promoting his book My Next Breath:

So if the Wake Up Dead Man production hadn’t been able to accomodate Jeremy Renner’s family coming along with him to London, we’d be seeing a different person inhabit his role come this winter. Fortunately, that didn’t end up happening, though you have to admire Renner’s conviction for placing his family first and foremost. At this stage of his career, he can afford to turn down a project if he’s not able to spend time with his loved ones as he’s working on it.

It should be noted that Jeremy Renner has already left an impact on the Knives Out world, as his likeness was used for a bottle of hot sauce in Glass Onion. However, he won’t be playing himself in Wake Up Dead Man, but rather a character named Dr. Nat Sharp. Just like with the first two movies, Daniel Craig’s Benoit Blanc will be investigating a murder, and Dr. Sharp will somehow factor into the nefarious goings on.

These two are joined in the cast by Josh O’Connor, Glenn Close, Josh Brolin, Mila Kunis, Kerry Washington, Andrew Scott, Cailee Spaeny, Daryl McCormack and Thomas Haden Church. While it remains to be seen if Wake Up Dead Man will have any kind of special theatrical release like Glass Onion did, it’ll be available to stream on Netflix starting December 12.

Since 1923 ended on the 2025 TV schedule, we haven’t had a Taylor Sheridan show on the air in months, which is hard after getting a wealth of them throughout the end of 2024. So, now, it’s been a few months, and I’m itching for a new season of one of the producer’s gritty dramas. Thankfully, Hugh Dillon just confirmed that Season 4 of Mayor of Kingstown will be returning this fall. So, that, mixed with other information we know about upcoming Yellowstone shows, should make every fan of Sheridan happy.

So far, every update we’ve gotten about Mayor of Kingstown has increased my excitement to eventually watch Season 4 with my Paramount+ subscription. From finding out that Edie Falco, Laura Benanti and Lennie James were cast to seeing production updates from Renner, each piece of info ups my anticipation. However, co-creator and cast member Hugh Dillon’s Instagram post about wrapping production is extra thrilling because it gives us an official countdown, as he wrote:

They certainly deserve that pie pictured in the post for all their hard work! Now, the wait is really on for us as we count down to October.

Now, that alone is exciting. However, what makes this even better is that it fully stacks the last part of 2025 and early 2026 with shows from Taylor Sheridan.

While no firm release dates are set, this update from Dillon marks the third release window that’s been confirmed for a Sheridan-produced series. Earlier this year, it was announced that the Rip and Beth spinoff would premiere on the Paramount Network in November, and then it was confirmed that Kayce’s series would be part of CBS’s 2025-2026 lineup, with a premiere set for early 2026.

That means that from at least October through the spring of 2026, we’ll have a show from the prolific writer to watch. Last year, we had a similar schedule of events. Throughout the final part of 2024, we got new seasons of Lioness and Yellowstone as well as the first season of Landman. Not long after that, Season 2 of 1923 started. It was a great time to be a fan of these shows.

Now, the end of 2025 will be a time like that again. We’ll get to return to Kingstown with Renner in October. We’ll get to see Rip and Beth’s next chapter in November. Then we’ll get to watch Kayce laying down the law in the new year. Plus, we know The Madison has been filmed and Landman and Tulsa King are in production right now, so there may be more titles added to this list, too.

So, buckle up, folks, we’re in for a dramatic ride when Mayor of Kingstown returns and helps usher in some of Taylor Sheridan’s other anticipated series.

For the past 30 years, the legendary downtown Los Angeles shootout in Heat has been considered one of the best of its kind. Though not my favorite scene from one of the best ‘90s movies, this legendary (and incredibly loud) action sequence is peak cinema and has influenced countless imitators. However, upon rediscovering a classic Boston movie with my Netflix subscription, I realized there’s a scene that gives it a run for its money.

If you thought I’m talking about The Town, winner winner chicken dinner, because the Ben Affleck-directed crime saga about Boston criminals pulling off an unlikely heist in one of the cultural landmarks of New England has one of the loudest, baddest, and most killer shootouts ever caught on film.

First Off, The Downtown Shootout In Heat Is The Stuff Of Legends

Before I get too carried away with the adrenaline rush that is the Fenway Park shootout in The Town, let me just say that Heat’s loud-as-hell downtown sequence immediately following the McCauley crew’s brazen bank robbery is the stuff of legends. The visuals, the sound design, the progression of the narrative centering on the cat-and-mouse game played by Al Pacino’s Lt. Vincent Hanna and Robert De Niro’s Neil McCauley is top-notch and some of Michael Mann’s best work.

I mean, there’s a reason this scene and this all-time great heist film continue to influence filmmakers, showrunners, and even video game creators decades after the echo of the final shot dissipated in downtown LA.

But The Shootout In The Bowels Of Fenway Park From The Town Is A Cinematic Masterpiece

All that being said, the shootout between a group of lifelong friends from Charlestown and the combined forces of the Boston Police Department and the FBI is a full-on cinematic masterpiece. While I’ll admit that I’m still partial to the construction of Michael Mann’s sequence 15 years earlier, this battle in the bowels of Fenway Park and surrounding streets is just the gift that keeps on giving.

Like so many other shootouts over the years, this one starts small, quiet, and unassuming before it explodes into a massive firefight where no one is left untouched. The physicality, the deafening and explosive firepower, and the confusion of the nearly five-minute battle just continue to pick up steam before coming to a satisfying end. Brilliance!

Also, Coughlin's Final Stand Should Be In The Crime Film Hall Of Fame

This isn’t a hot take or anything like that, but I’ll be damned if The Town doesn’t feature Jeremy Renner’s best performance. Nothing against his work in some of the best Marvel movies or the frightening and thrilling Wind River, but his portrayal of Jem Coughlin is in a league of its own. The commitment to the personality, voice, and physical presence of the career criminal shows a different side of Renner, and his performance steals the show right up until his character’s death.

Speaking of which…

Coughlin’s final stand while trying to escape with a duffle bag of cash should be in the crime film hall of fame, it’s that incredible. Yeah, the shooting in this brief sequence is great and all, but it’s the small moments that really make this shine. The look on his face when trying to escape, then when he realizes he’s caught, and finally in the final act of rebellion, all give the character a fittingly violent and poignant end.

I still think that Michael Mann’s LA shootout is the best ever captured on film, but I’d happily put The Town and its use of Fenway Park right behind it on that list of all-time greats.

Jeremy Renner experienced a truly terrifying New Year’s Day back in 2023, as he was run over by his massive snowplow due to a mistake. Today, Renner is thriving and, based on his latest gym update, he’s not just walking again, he’s outperforming so many of us. And, while I’d like to think I’m in decent shape, watching Renner tear through his latest workout is making me reconsider my fitness goals.

The 54-year-old star recently took to Instagram to show off his serious fitness prowess via a video. The post in question shows Renner in a full core stretch using a weight on wheels. On the whole, the move looks relatively difficult, as the actor must rely on his core strength and balance to complete it. That's not bad for a guy who was in a life-threatening snowplow accident a few years ago. The Oscar nominee suffered chest trauma and had over 30 broken bones after he was run over by a snowplow outside his Nevada home. Renner spent weeks in the ICU and underwent multiple surgeries. He faced a recovery process so intense that I'm sure most people wouldn’t blame him for slowing down or even retiring from action-heavy roles altogether.

Ultimately, Jeremy Renner took his recovery incredibly seriously, and miraculously, has been back at work for a while now. He's continuing his leading man stint on the Taylor Sheridan-produced show Mayor of Kingstown, and is also set to star in the buzzy Knives Out threequel, Wake Up Dead Man. He also recently published a memoir called My Next Breath, which details his career as well as the details of his accident and recovery. Fellow Marvel alum Robert Downey Jr. even shared that he was reading the book on the Avengers: Doomsday set.

Aside from just the book, Renner has been open about his recovery journey in general, sharing bits of progress, motivational moments, and yes, even some of the painful hurdles along the way. This latest glimpse into his fitness grind makes it clear: he's not just healing, he’s rebuilding his life.

Robert Downey Jr. certainly is a busy man these days. As of late, he’s been filming the highly anticipated Avengers: Doomsday in the UK and, given he’s playing the lead villain, he likely has some serious work to do. However, that doesn’t necessarily mean he’s not taking some time to kick back and relax. In fact, the fan-favorite actor just shared a snippet of his downtime, during which he read Jeremy Renner’s new book. Downey, who also showed off his muscles, praised the book, leading Renner to share a sweet response.

My Next Breath was just released weeks ago and, with this memoir, Jeremy Renner opens up about various facets of his career and life, including the snowplow incident that could’ve ended his life in 2023. Considering how close Renner and Robert Downey Jr. are, it probably isn’t too surprising that the latter picked up his longtime co-star’s book. A person who was not among that group of stars was Jeremy Renner, and it’s unclear whether he’ll show up in Doomsday or any other upcoming Marvel movies. Nevertheless, Renner seems open to returning as Clint Barton/Hawkeye at some point. Honestly, given the bromance they’ve developed, I’d love for Renner to be able to mix it up with Robert Downey Jr. on a set again. For now, though, stream their past MCU outings using a Disney+ subscription.

The entertainment industry is just another job at the end of the day. It’s often hard to remember that because we as the audience see actors as different than us, they live different lives. But work life balance is incredibly difficult to balance, especially when you’re away filming. Actor Jeremy Renner shares his reasons for why he stepped away from the Mission: Impossible movies.

In an interview with Josh Horowitz on his podcast Happy, Sad, Confused, Jeremy Renner speaks a bit about his book My Next Breath: A Memoir, as well as share his experiences working in the film industry, and in his personal life. While talking about his role as Hawkeye in the MCU, Horowitz asked Renner about his commentary in his memoir about walking away from Marvel. He had this to say in response:

For those who don’t know much about Renner, pre-Hawkeye; back in 2010 Renner confirmed that he was being set up at the to take over the Mission: Impossible franchise following Ghost Protocol. We at CinemaBlend even gave him a seven out of ten for his performance as William Brandt. Especially since Tom Cruise had an interesting way of convincing Renner to join the franchise in the first place.

Returning to this time on Happy, Sad, Confused, Renner elaborated a little bit more as to why he stepped away from Mission: Impossible to focus on his daughter.

Filming for a movie does take an exceptionally long time, for us as an audience it really tests our patience. However, we do forget that all this time for filming, every delay, every reshoot is more time that this actor or actress has to be away from their family. And at the time, Ghost Protocol was supposed to be the end for Ethan Hunt, and as we know that didn’t happen, seeing as there was many movies that followed.

Being part of any movie or show does take a lot of time away, other actors like Jason Momoa have stated that they are thankful their careers took off after his children have grown older and don’t care as much to cling to their dad. This is a very similar statement Renner made about his daughter, stating that now that she’s older she’s not as big on hanging around him as much, which is why he is still part of the MCU for the time being. As for his view on being part of a movie for that long, as well as co-star Tom Cruise being willing to be away for filming for so long, Renner closed with this simple, but heartwarming statement.

It’s an admirable choice for anyone to choose their family and their children over their career. While it may seem like that is a no-brainer as a parent, there is a certain level of societal pressure to keep up with the characters the audience loves; especially since William Brandt is one of a handful of characters that people want to see again. But as he has stated, Renner is proud of that choice to focus on his best job, which is being a father to his daughter.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe’s return to form has made huge waves on the 2025 movie schedule, whether the subject is a movie that’s in theaters or in production. Avengers: Doomsday’s massive cast announcement is a prime example of the latter, and the lineup of returning and debuting heroes in that tentpole series still has some room to grow. This has some fans wondering if OG Avenger Hawkeye will ever return, especially after Jeremy Renner’s comments about turning down Hawkeye Season 2.

However, even in the face of his allegedly lowball offer for Season 2 of his Disney+ series, the Mission: Impossible vet does have some nuanced thoughts on taking up his bow and arrow again.

In a recent interview with Happy Sad Confused’s Josh Horowitz, the Mayor of Kingstown star promoted his autobiography, My Next Breath. So, of course, the conversation eventually gave way to some MCU shop talk. Mr. Renner laid down his thoughts on returning to his Avengers character, as well as his Hawkeye spin-off series, as follows:

This new viewpoint comes at an interesting time, seeing as Marvel Television’s supposed future strategy is to rearrange the MCU so that movie characters aren’t being pulled into the television side of things. Not to mention Disney/Marvel’s rumored lowball offer has been alleged to be a stealth method of canceling the Hailee Steinfeld co-starring action show.

Despite the dramatic developments that were suggested, rumored, or hinted at connected to that Disney+ subscription exclusive, Jeremy Renner still has Clint Barton on his mind. And when describing another reason he’s still eager to keep his Marvel Cinematic Universe story going, it’s clear that Hawkeye is also taking up space in his heart.

Outside of his acting career, Renner is not only a loving father, but he’s also the creator of the RennerVation Foundation. With the mission of providing “well-grounded and compassionate support to children in foster care and at-risk youth,” Hawkeye’s star player still carries a bit of clout with the youth at that camp. Jeremy Renner reflected on that reason for still investing in the role with this sentiment:

However, since he's game for hitting the archery range again, it feels like we're in a much more optimistic place than we were not too long ago. For now, we'll just have to see how Thunderbolts* sways Marvel Studios' plans, and you can form your own opinions after seeing that picture, in theaters now.

Things have been quiet on the Hawkeye front in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for a long time now. Aside from Hailee Steinfeld cameoing as Kate Bishop at the end of The Marvels, neither she nor mentor Clint Barton have been in the spotlight since Hawkeye played to Disney+ subscription-holders in late 2021. Last week, Jermey Renner revealed that he’d turned down making Hawkeye Season 2 due to contract disputes, but new details have come to light alleging that there’s a different reason that second batch of episodes never happened.

Renner stated that the reason he didn’t agree to do Hawkeye Season 2 was because he was only offered “half the money” he did for Season 1. However, both TheInSneider and Puck are reporting that Disney and Marvel deliberately lowballed him on the offer to ensure Season 2 wouldn't happen at all.

The former outlet claimed that Disney and Marvel did this because they knew Renner would reject the offer and that would give them a reason to not “have to make a second season of the show.” The latter outlet backed up this claim about the lowballing and wanting to “pin the cancellation” on the Clint Barton actor. It also mentioned that Hawkeye “attracted middling viewership,” so costs would have had to come down for Season 2 regardless.

It is true that Hawkeye didn’t exactly knock it out of the park with viewership. According to Samba TV (via Deadline), the premiere episode was viewed by 1.5 million households during its first five days of availability. That was a 40% drop-off from what Loki Season 1’s first episode earned within that same amount of time in June 2021. However, the finale did fare much better by collecting 938 million of viewing time during the Christmas week it premiered, up from the 853 million minutes the first two episodes (via THR).

Regardless, if InSneider and Puck’s reports are accurate, then Hawkeye just didn’t perform well enough for Marvel and Disney to push Season 2 forward. I can understand that, but wanting to pin the blame on Jeremy Renner for the series not continuing seems uncomfortably excessive and unnecessary. Did these companies really need to use that as public justification for why Hawkeye wouldn’t be continuing? Even though I thought this was one of Marvel’s better Disney+ shows, it ended in a way that I didn’t automatically assume it was going to keep going.

In any case, don’t count on Hawkeye Season 2 being added to the list of upcoming Marvel TV shows barring some unexpected development. As Renner admitted in his interview, his body is “probably thanking” him that this isn’t happening, referring to his snowplow accident at the start of 2023. Still, I hope he and Marvel Studios can come to an arrangement and find a way for him to return elsewhere in the MCU. It’d be great to see Clint back in action again, even with Kate Bishop having fully taken over the Hawkeye mantle.

For now, Thunderbolts* is now playing in theaters, and The Fantastic Four: First Steps follows on July 25. TV-wise, Ironheart premieres June 24 on Disney+, and Wonder Man premiers on the 2025 TV schedule in November.

It’s been a minute since we’ve seen Jeremy Renner playing Clint Barton, a.k.a. Hawkeye, in the MCU, and there’s still no word on if he’ll reprise the role in upcoming Marvel movies and/or upcoming Marvel TV shows. To be fair, much of this has to do with how Renner was badly injured in a snowplow accident at the start of 2023, resulting in a long recuperation process. However, apparently he had also been approached to do Hawkeye Season 2, but turned it down for a completely understandable reason.

As the actor laid out in an interview with High Performance, this decision didn’t stem from a lack of interest in reprising the archer he’s been playing stretching back to 2011’s Thor. Rather, if he’d agreed to return for another season of Hawkeye, which premiered late 2021, he would have been taking a massive pay cut. As Renner explained:

Yeah, I can understand why Jeremy Renner would have a problem with this. To be clear, it wasn’t outright stated that his pay would have been cut because of his accident; technically we don’t have an official reason. Renner also clarified that he doesn’t hold any ill will towards the people at Marvel Studios and “not even really Disney,” but more specifically at the Mouse House’s accountants, who he described as “penny pinchers.”

Renner went on to say that he told these accountants to “go fly a kite” after he heard the “insulting offer.” While he’s open to playing Clint Barton again someday, he wants to make sure he’s getting properly compensated, and the amount proposed for Hawkeye Season 2 just wasn’t it. As he put it:

My agreeing with Jeremy Renner that he should get paid just as much for Hawkeye Season 2 as he did in Season 1, if not more so, the fact that another season is even being talked about with him is somewhat surprising. The show has been long labeled as a miniseries, and while Alaqua Cox went on to reprise Maya Lopez in the Echo spinoff, and Hailee Steinfeld cameoed as Kate Bishop in The Marvels, there’s been no indication that Season 2 was in the cards. Maybe if Marvel comes back with a better offer for Renner, that could get Season 2 off the ground in the coming years.

For now, Jeremy Renner can next be seen in Wake Up Dead Man, which will be released sometime in the latter portion of 2025 movies schedule. As far as the MCU goes, Thunderbolts* opens in theaters tonight, and Ironheart will premiere on the 2025 TV schedule on June 24.

At the time, he was run over by his 14,000 lb. snowcat while trying to save his nephew from being hit. It’s true that strong doses of medication can indeed make a person a bit loopy. However, it sounds like Renner was on a whole different level in the aftermath of his accident. In his memoir, My Next Breath, he detailed (via Us Weekly) his recollection of being “so high” on his meds while in the hospital. As Renner explained that he specifically took a “combination of opioids for pain and benzos for sleep.” The now-54-year-old Oscar nominee then began “chatting” with his curtains before having a vision of the Ray actor:

That certainly sounds like an odd experience but, as wild as it may seem, it’s actually natural. It’s hard to say how any of us would actually act under the influence of so many drugs. Unsurprisingly, the A-lister’s family members were present when he was talking to his “buddies.” He went on to say that his loved ones had varied responses in regard to his musings and the amount of medication he was on at the time:

Honestly, it’s amazing that Jeremy Renner didn’t lose his life due to that snowplow accident over two years ago. In his memoir, he recalled hearing “crunching sounds” as the snowplow made its way over his body. Amid his recovery, Renner also opened up about the highs and lows he experienced. Even though it wasn’t always easy, the actor persevered, and he kept his sense of humor as noted by Avengers co-star Anthony Mackie.

It’s tragically ironic that later in 2023, Jamie Foxx suffered a medical emergency. As he later revealed, he had a brain bleed that led to a stroke. After waking up from his stroke, Foxx was apparently a bit disillusioned about what happened. He ultimately began to process his situation using humor and even impersonated Denzel Washington at one point.

As for Jeremy Renner, he was eventually able to kick his meds and was glad to do so because he “hated” the way they made him feel. His decision to discard the medication allowed him to take a major step towards a sense of normalcy. Overall, I’m just glad Renner is seemingly feeling like himself again and that Jamie Foxx is as well.

We don’t know if Jeremy Renner intends to return to upcoming Marvel movies anytime soon, especially since he was suspiciously absent from the Avengers: Doomsday 5 and a half hour cast stream, but Mayor of Kingstown has been renewed for a fourth season, and the announcement that production has started.

There was a considerable amount of fear for Jeremy Renner's well-being back in January 2023 when it was reported that the actor suffered a “traumatic” accident. After trying to prevent his snowcat from hitting his nephew, the Hawkeye star was run over and dozens of his bones were broken as he was hurled under his massive vehicle. Renner has since been open about what happened and is now detailing the mistake that led to his horrific snowplow injuries. All in all, he's not holding back about the gruesome-sounding ordeal.

In Jeremy Renner’s memoir, My Next Breath, he recalls (via The Sunday Times) how he and his nephew, Alex, were clearing the snow in his neighborhood with his 14,000-pound snowcat for a planned week of family fun. As the highly-paid MCU actor stepped out of the driver’s seat to talk to his nephew, Renner apparently forgot to take on important course of action before exiting the vehicle:

Just about anyone could make the mistake of forgetting to set the parking brake. However, I can understand where Jeremy Renner is coming from in regard to the notion of how one “tiny but monumental” misstep can lead to one of the scariest, life-changing moments a person can endure.

When the Hurt Locker star saw that his snowplow was heading in Alex's direction, he became a real-life superhero. The actor attempted to jump across three feet of spinning tracks to go back into the cab and hit the STOP button. While Alex avoided being crushed by the snow vehicle, Renner never made it into the cab as his feet lost their grip on the moving tracks, and he was thrown forward. What happened right after was a disturbing realization that made the A-lister realize he was the one under the snowcat:

I can’t even imagine what it would be like to experience something so horrific like that myself. Jeremy Renner’s trainer, Christopher Vincent, previously said the the actor’s “excruciating” injuries were the result of his body sending pain signals to his brain from every body part and not being able to “override” them.

Given a painful accident like this, a person may be of the thinking that it's better to have blacked out. Jeremy Renner wrote in his book that he “momentarily blacked out,” but he was “awake through every moment,” experiencing every bit of pain throughout:

It's still scary to think about just how close Renner was to being killed. After he was run over, he was airlifted to a hospital where it was discovered that he suffered not only 38 broken bones, but also other terrible injuries. It's also been said that his “eye did pop out” as well and that he had three breaks in his lower pelvis, six broken ribs in 14 places, a major laceration at the back of his head and more. It's truly a miracle that after working towards recovery, he's still with us. Today, not only is he still landing acting gigs (and is set to return for Mayor of Kingstown Season 4), but he's even recorded an album, Love and Titanium.

Life can certainly change in the blink of an eye, and that can, in great part, due to the choices we do or don't make. While the American Hustle actor’s accident and recovery weren’t easy, Renner considers himself “blessed” for his life and the ability to be with his loved ones and do the work he enjoys.

As the 2025 movie schedule brings us ever closer to the next Avengers event in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the latest roster of Earth’s mightiest heroes are gearing up to go back into action once more. Considering that Doomsday’s massive cast list isn’t even the complete line up, that’s going to be something people are talking about as the Russo Brothers head into production for their Marvel directing return.

If the road ahead is as entertaining as Jeremy Renner’s sweet birthday message to Paul Rudd, getting the band back together may have well been worth it. The Mayor of Kingstown star took to Instagram to celebrate the Death of a Unicorn lead’s 56th birthday. Along with some throwbacks the post's caption reads:

I could be wrong, but I think we may have seen Mr. Renner make a passing reference to his friend’s previous title as People’s “Sexiest Man Alive.” Although that could just be me remembering Jenna Ortega’s roast of Paul Rudd during a recent interview. In any case, it’s still adorable to see two Avengers being a pair of friends so close that a gag like that “50 Year Old Virgins” photoshop at the top of the slideshow is even part of the conversation.

It kind of makes sense, as whenever people are talking about the lineup for the upcoming Marvel movie, Hawkeye and Ant-Man are probably two of the heroes that are unfairly clowned on. Much like those “Build a Team” memes where Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch is on the lowest tier, it’s rather unjust. And the Marvel movies and TV shows have taught us that lesson repeatedly.

That being said, Jeremy Renner and Paul Rudd are unmistakable as two of the funniest members of any Avengers team, both on and off the screen. Which makes any potential harm or damage to them an even greater emotional blow, even if you know the end result while rewatching it on your Disney+ subscription.

I mean, do you remember thinking Scott Lang had bit the big one when watching that huge explosion in Avengers: Endgame? Try watching this clip and tell me you still don't feel a little bit of dread:

We don’t know much about what lies ahead on the road to Avengers: Doomsday’s plot. That’s going to lead to a lot of speculation and worry for every name on those director’s chairs presented to tease the 2026 blockbuster’s production. But if I may suggest an alternative, especially in light of this adorable birthday exchange between friends, perhaps we can start pushing for Hawkeye and Ant-Man to become the comedy team the MCU needs.

Why not retell some of the Avengers movies in the form of Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead, and show us Paul Rudd and Jeremy Renner on a comic adventure that retells famed events from the MCU? Yes, I know that’s the plot of The Lion King 1 ½, but Tom Stoppard did it first with Shakespeare - and I think it’d be a killer use of these jokesters’ talents in-between Doomsday and Secret Wars.

Ahead of Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning's release on the 2025 movie schedule, Tom Cruise and director Christopher McQuarrie attended CinemaCon to tease the film and award the filmmaker behind it. As part of the festivities, the actor gave a speech while presenting his colleague with CinemaCon's Director of the Year award. After all that, their M:I family member, Jeremy Renner, made the moment even better by reacting to the tribute with a sweet message.

Along with showing a trailer for the highly anticipated M:I 8 during Paramount's panel at CinemaCon, Cruise got to honor his friend. During this special occasion for his longtime collaborator, the Top Gun star spoke at length about their partnership while sharing thoughtful remarks about McQuarrie's skill as an artist. In addition to sharing part of his speech on social media, the Jerry Maguire star also shared photos of himself and the filmmaker from the event, along with one picture of McQuarrie directing one of the Mission films. It’s clear they share a meaningful connection, as the two have continued to work together for years. Even if The Final Reckoning is the last film in the Mission franchise, this likely won’t be the end for this partnership.

The love kept spreading on the Instagram post as many fans and friends commented, expressing support for the duo and M:I - 8. One of these commenters was Jeremy Renner, who appeared in two Mission: Impossible films, including Rogue Nation, which was directed by McQuarrie. He said:

Renner hasn’t appeared in a Mission film since 2015's Rogue Nation, but the Avengers star has said he'd be open to returning. He previously refused to participate in Fallout because they planned on killing his character, so he’s clearly passionate about being able to come back.

He isn’t announced as a member of the Final Reckoning cast, but you never know, cameos happen all the time. He says he misses both Cruise and McQuarrie, so maybe this is a sign for them to work on something together, even if it’s outside the world of the IMF. Personally, I think they should get the band back together and make some movie magic again.

Like millions of people around the world, I spent five hours watching Marvel slowly roll out all those Avengers: Doomsday names in March 2025, and like a lot of people, I was bummed a few of the biggest MCU stars, including Ryan Reynolds, didn’t have a chair. While it may be true that we will see more additions as we work toward the release of the upcoming Marvel movie, I was shocked by some of the names left out of the excruciatingly long cast announcement.

That said, here’s a list of some of those beloved MCU actors I really hope we see when the Russo Brothers’ Avengers: Doomsday opens on the big screen in May 2026. It’s a long list (no, not as long as that video), so let’s get started…

Ryan Reynolds

Ryan Reynolds, who has played Deadpool since the Fox days, has made a habit of teasing his return to the MCU ever since the release of Deadpool & Wolverine in 2024. I totally thought we’d see his name on one of those chairs in that seemingly endless lineup, which is why I’m so bummed the wise-cracking, R-rated, and lethal hero wasn’t included.

In an ideal world, Reynolds’ return would also include the likes of Dafne Keen, Wesley Snipes, Jennifer Garner, and Leslie Uggams (you can’t have Deadpool without Blind Al).

Tom Holland

With the Spider-Man 4 release date so close to the Avengers: Doomsday rollout, it would be shocking if Tom Holland doesn’t show up in the massive crossover film a few months before his new Web-Slinger adventure. The highly in-demand actor seemed like a shoo-in to be included in the gargantuan list filled with all his MCU buddies. There are rumors that Holland won’t be in the next Avengers film, but I’m not totally convinced at this point.

Samuel L. Jackson

Samuel L. Jackson has been a part of the MCU since he showed up in Tony Stark’s house and revealed himself as Nick Fury way back in Iron Man. Since then, he’s popped up in all of the Avengers movies, so I was a little saddened and surprised by his omission from the absurdly long cast list for Doomsday. I mean, Fury is still alive on the Marvel Cinematic timeline after the events of The Marvels.

Chris Evans

Even though his version of Captain America retired during the Avengers: Endgame ending, Chris Evans has reappeared in the MCU (Johnny Flame in Deadpool & Wolverine), so I wouldn’t be shocked if some character played by the franchise mainstay shows up by the time it’s all said and done. Evans has been cagey about a possible return in the past, but not seeing his name on the back of a chair is a little disheartening, if I’m being honest.

Mark Ruffalo

Mark Ruffalo has been one of my favorite MCU actors ever since he took on the role of Bruce Banner/The Hulk in 2012’s The Avengers. He’s been there for all the major moments in the franchise since then, but now I’m starting to think his iconic character won’t be saving the planet, galaxy, universe, or multiverse with his old buddies next summer. This can’t happen. I mean, who’s going to give Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man an extra taco?

Benedict Cumberbatch

Is Benedict Cumberbatch bringing back Doctor Strange (third eye and all) for Avengers: Doomsday? I don’t know because the longtime Marvel staple wasn’t included in the longest line of chairs I’ve ever seen. The actor’s comments about his return to the MCU have been all over the place, with his most recent comments to Business Insider in January 2025 making it sound like he could possibly return.

Don Cheadle

Though the Armor Wars project seems to be up in the air, I thought Don Cheadle would for sure be a part of the upcoming Avengers movie. James Rhodes has been a part of the franchise since the very beginning, and Cheadle’s version of the character has had a part in three of the four crossover films to date.

Brie Larson

Another big name missing from the “Infinity Scroll of Chairs” was Brie Larson, whose Captain Marvel has long been one of the strongest heroes in the entire MCU. We last saw her in The Marvels back in 2023, so she’s due for a return at this point. The same can be said about co-stars Teyonah Parris and Iman Vellani, who play Monica Rambeau and Kamala Khan, respectively. I’d be shocked if they didn’t appear.

Jeremy Renner

Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye has had one of the craziest journeys in the MCU over the years. The underrated Avenger has been through it all, and I’ll be bummed if he’s not part of Doomsday next year. He famously wasn’t part of the Avengers: Infinity War cast, so maybe, just maybe, we’ll see him in Avengers: Secret Wars in a few years.

Charlie Cox

With Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdoch very much a part of the MCU again with the recent arrival of Daredevil: Born Again, I will be shocked if the actor doesn’t appear in Avengers: Doomsday. His name is on the rise (both the actor and character), so his absence could be felt a great deal.

Also, I would love to see Cox’s Defenders co-stars like Mike Colter, Finn Jones, and Krysten Ritter have some kind of role in what appears to be the biggest Marvel movie in years.

Halle Berry

Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, and several other major players from the original X-Men movies were all announced for Avengers: Doomsday, but there was one actress whose absence really bummed me out: Halle Berry. Whenever the music would change and the camera would pan to the right, I kept hoping to see the Storm actress listed on a chair, but it never came.

The same can be said about Famke Janssen, Anna Paquin, and Hugh Jackman, three other major names from the franchise who are oddly missing from the cast list.

The Guardians Of The Galaxy

Though Dave Bautista and Pom Klementieff seem to be finished with the MCU after the events of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, the rest of the actors should still be in play moving forward. With Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Bradley Cooper, Karen Gillan, and Vin Diesel being major parts of the last two Avengers movies, it will be odd not to see them in the upcoming Doomsday. I really hope that changes, as I’d love to see that ragtag group of space scoundrels save the day again.

The Eternals

After Captain America: Brave New World referenced Eternals earlier in the year, it felt like maybe this oft-forgotten MCU movie would be getting some attention again. However, none of the actors from the 2021 epic were included in the Avengers: Doomsday rollout. I guess we’ll have to wait longer to figure out what’s going on with the group played by Angelina Jolie, Richard Madden, Gemma Chan, and Barry Keoghan.

Other Marvel Stars I Want To See In Avengers: Doomsday

On top of all these names and various groups, I would love to see even more actors from the Marvel Cinematic Universe show up in Avengers: Doomsday. From longtime staples like Paul Bettany, Elizabeth Olsen, Hayley Atwell, and Scarlett Johansson (nobody stays dead forever, right?) to other fan favorites played by the likes of Benedict Wong, Dafne Keen, Lupita Nyong’o, Awkwafina, and Danai Guirara to actors introduced in post-credit scenes like Brett Goldstein and Charlize Theron, there are just so many familiar faces that could show up.

Will any or all of these actors show up in Avengers: Doomsday or its sequel? I really hope so.

Over three years ago, Jeremy Renner was involved in a “traumatic” accident involving a snowplow. The 54-year-old actor was hit by a massive snowcat while trying to save his nephew from being run over. As a result, Renner broke dozens of bones and subsequently embarked upon the road to recovery, with his relatives at his side. He also had the support of dear friends, including fellow Marvel star Anthony Mackie. Now, Mackie is getting candid about Renner’s unfortunate ordeal and how the actor managed to keep his sense of humor.

Anthony Mackie and Jeremy Renner have a bit of a history. Years ago, they co-starred alongside each other in Kathryn Bigelow’s 2009 war drama The Hurt Locker. And, over the next few years, the two would be cast in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with Renner being cast as Clint Barton and Mackie as Sam Wilson. Mackie recalled his buddy’s incident while speaking to People. The 46-year-old star admitted to having been taken aback once he learned about the incident but, as time went on, he could see a bright spot:

During his hospitalization, Jeremy Renner shared updates on his status when possible, and his family members did the same. He even shared a video from the ICU early on, which was incredibly touching. Anthony Mackie’s thoughts on his humor also track, as some of the American Hustle alum’s posts were indeed humorous. I loved seeing Renner remain upbeat in the face of adversity, and Mackie felt the same way:

Jeremy Renner’s sheer determination and drive to get better were surely inspiring to see. On top of that, what was also refreshing was to see just how vulnerable the veteran actor was about his condition. While he did indeed open up whenever he made progress, he also didn’t shy away from talking about his setbacks. It was even a “big stretch” for him to return to acting once he was well enough to do so. While talking to CinemaBlend’s own Riley Utley, Renner discussed the impact of his injuries on his Mayor Kingston character as well.

Nevertheless, he preserved and had plenty of support from fans and a plethora of actors from across Hollywood. His Marvel Cinematic Universe family particularly came through for him, with Chris Evans showing love and later visiting the hospital with Scarlett Johansson. Paul Rudd also sent well wishes by way of a video that went viral. The stars of the MCU have long shown that they share a bond, and it was heartwarming to see it shine through in a big way when one of their own was in dire straits.

Anthony Mackie’s reflections on the entire situation are also a testament to that bond amongst the MCU stars. I’m glad Jeremy Renner had Mackie and others by his side, and I smile knowing that he’s back to work and doing well now. Some big names are making their way to Kingstown for Season 4, and we should all be getting excited. On the heels of Mayor of Kingstown’s senior season renewal and the announcement that production had started, major casting news has been revealed. Edie Falco, Laura Benanti and Lennie James are all joining the cast of this Paramount+ show, and I think the Nurse Jackie star’s role has the potential to address a major cliffhanger from last season.

Edie Falco Is Going To Play A New Warden In Kingstown

Jeremy Renner might lead Mayor of Kingstown, but some heavy hitters are coming to play in this next season. This includes Edie Falco, who has been cast as Nina Hobbs, the new warden at Anchor Bay. I cannot even begin to stress how big of a deal this is.

At the end of Kingstown Season 3, the warden, Kareem died. That left a major hole in the power structures of this prison town, and it left me wondering what would happen to the prison next. Falco coming in to lead this place is such an interesting choice, because I assume her character will have no previous ties to Mike since we've never heard of her before. Plus, I feel like she will have the potential to bring a totally new energy to the show.

Not only will her role likely address the cliffhanger regarding Kareem’s death, but it will also introduce a new dynamic in the town as Jeremy Renner’s Mike figures out how to work with her. Overall, I can’t wait to see how this plays out, and I think The Sopranos star has the potential to play a deeply impactful and entertaining character that could give our Mayor a run for his money.

However, she’s not the only exciting new face you’ll be seeing when you tune back in for new episodes with a Paramount+ subscription…

Laura Benanti And Lennie James Have Also Been Cast In Season 4 Of Mayor Of Kingstown

So many fantastic actors have joined Taylor Sheridan’s shows, and Mayor of Kingstown’s cast is no exception. With Jeremy Renner leading, the cast has also featured actors like Aiden Gillen – who played the big bad Milo – and Kyle Chandler – who played Renner’s on-screen brother. Now, the addition of Falco and Laura Benanti as series regulars and Lennie James having a series-long arc shows that this cast is one-upping itself again.

While Falco is set to play a warden, Lennie James will play a legendary gangster from Detroit named Frank Moses. That has me wondering if he’ll have ties to Bunny…or maybe he’ll be an entirely new challenge in Kingstown. No matter what though, I cannot wait to see The Walking Dead actor playing a big part in this series.

Adding to that, Laura Benanti is set to portray Cindy Stephens. She is a correctional officer who gets recruited to Kingstown. If you remember, during Season 3, there was a push to make the town and specifically its law enforcement and prisons less corrupt. I can’t help but wonder if the Life & Beth actress will play a part in that.

Overall, all this casting is thrilling because it's bound to cause big shifts in Renner's town. And it has me hoping that Season 4 of Mayor of Kingstown premieres on the 2025 TV schedule, so we can see how these three address some of Season 3’s cliffhangers and fit into the ever-changing and fragile power structures of this town.

While it took a few months for the news to come through, it’s finally official that the Mayor is still in office in Kingstown. Following its run on the 2024 TV schedule this summer, Paramount+ has renewed the Jeremy Renner-led Mayor of Kingstown for a fourth season. Now, as we start to anticipate Mike’s return and think about everything that went down in Season 3’s finale, I’ve realized there’s one storyline I need our leading man to be heavily involved in.

Mayor Of Kingstown Has Been Renewed For A Fourth Season

First, let’s go over the news we know. Mayor of Kingstown will be back for a fourth season, as Paramount+ announced on Instagram. The show’s account noted that “The Mayor is back in action,” and that Season 4 will be “coming soon.”

It’s unclear what exactly “soon” means. However, this show has maintained a fairly consistent release schedule (all things considered), so my guess is that we can expect the senior season to premiere sometime during the 2025 TV schedule. While that’s not for sure, Season 2 was released at the start of 2023, and despite Renner’s near-fatal snowplow accident, he was back at work in 2024, and Season 3 came out during the summer – about a year and a half after its sophomore installment premiered. So, I feel like they'll get back to work sooner rather than later.

Plus, the show’s co-creator and Ian actor, Hugh Dillon, took to Instagram to post this enthusiastic message:

So, the man running the show is stoked to get back to work, and I imagine the cast is too. And that’s great news, because there’s one storyline I desperately need to see Renner’s character Mike address ASAP.

I Need Kyle’s Aresst To Be The No. 1 Priority For Jeremy Renner’s Character Mike

The end of Mayor of Kingstown Season 3 left me with several questions, however, the one at the top of my mind surrounds Mike’s brother Kyle and his arrest.

During the finale, there was a battle on the bridge, and the issue of over-violence in Kingstown came to a head. At this moment, Kyle’s co-worker Robert was pointing his gun at a presumed innocent man who had a child. When Taylor Handley’s character saw this happening, he yelled at his colleague to stop. When he didn’t, Kyle shot him – killing his co-worker.

The last time we saw Kyle he was being taken away in a cop car, presumably going to prison.

Immediately after Mike learned about this, he aggressively said they couldn’t hold his brother. He was so angry, and Ian was trying to calm him down. It’s safe to say Renner’s character was desperate at this moment, and I imagine that feeling will carry over into Season 4.

I want it to carry over too. I want to see Mike prioritizing his brother and his family first, and I can’t wait to see how he gets Kyle out of this jam. It’s an interesting flipping of roles, seeing as Mike was in prison at one point in his life, and now his (fairly) law-abiding brother is being locked up for something that arguably wasn’t the worst decision he’s made.

This storyline also serves as a needed breaking point for Kyle. Between being a new father while also losing his mother and his wife going through a traumatic experience during Season 3, he had a bunch of pent-up anger that was bound to explode. Now it has, and the after-effects are something I can’t wait to see. So, I really hope they’re the focal point of Season 4 and Renner’s storyline.

So, let the countdown to Mayor of Kingstown Season 4 begin, because I need to see this arc play out ASAP! However, while we wait for that, we can go back and rewatch Seasons 1 through 3 with a Paramount+ subscription to see how we’ve gotten to the point we’re at.

Luck was on Jeremy Renner’s side last year when the MCU actor was injured by his own snowplow and lived to tell the tale. Fortunately, the American actor/musician is still thriving with new acting projects and love from all those who know him. As it’s been almost two years since his accident, Renner updated the public on how he’s recovering with a blunt, yet surprising MCU-related pun that’s on point.

Jeremy Renner is known for playing the superhero Hawkeye in the Marvel movies. While the Academy Award nominee doesn’t go around shooting arrows in real life, he was a real-life superhero for his nephew during his devastating snowplow incident at the start of 2023. The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office reported that The Hurt Locker actor was using his PistenBully snowcat to help move his adult nephew’s truck from the driveway after experiencing a huge snowfall.

However, as the emergency brake wasn’t set when Jeremy Renner exited the vehicle, the snow groomer began to move sideways down a hill toward the path of his nephew. That’s when the Hawkeye actor attempted to get back into the PistenBully by climbing onto its moving track, only to get “pulled under” and run over. While speaking about his recovery at Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea Film Festival (via Variety) Renner jokingly said the following to describe how he feels:

It’s true that Jeremy Renner is technically part Iron Man now. He suffered blunt chest trauma and broke 38 bones in the accident which involved titanium implants. He explained on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon that his left shin was metal along with half of his face and the right side of his back. Despite the “excruciating pain” of his injuries, the American Hustle actor pulled through saying the biggest change of his life following his recovery is to prioritize quality time with his loved ones.

Nearly two years after Jeremy Renner’s almost-fatal accident, the highly paid MCU actor returned to work on his series Mayor of Kingston and recorded his new album Love and Titanium with written songs reflecting the milestones of his recovery. The talented actor even said at the Red Sea Film Festival that he plans to write a book on his brush with death and the reflections that came after. Renner spoke about a defining feature that played a key role in his recovery from his tragic ordeal:

Defining moments like almost meeting death shows just how much love is in your life. After Jeremy Renner’s crazy snowplow accident, his MCU buddies wished him well, like Chris Evans sending love on social media, as well as him and Scarlett Johansson visiting Renner in the hospital. Ant-Man’s Paul Rudd made a viral get-well Cameo, inspiring site-wide messages from many fans.

Jeremy Renner’s recovery journey also brought overwhelming love from his family, like his daughter showing support by leaving little notes of encouragement throughout the house. He also received love from his young nephew, who shared a sweet message that he's lucky he has Hawkeye as an uncle and that he’s alive. The Arrival actor is more than aware of the levels of support he’s gotten as he shared a heartwarming message to fans who stuck with him through his recovery that it was “noticed and deeply felt every day.”

The Town actor, of course, would fit Iron Man into his recovery of being “25% titanium.” Even if Jeremy Renner is joking in the moment, he truly is a real superhero, as his snowplow accident could have had a totally different outcome. But he overcame the odds and will continue to make a mark on the entertainment industry and on those who love him.

Steve Carell's channeled his inner Michael Scott long before leading NBC's The Office cast when he was just starting out acting in commercials. In the early 1990s, he played a Brown's Chicken employee whose clumsy mistake while setting up a marquee advertising "cholesterol-free cooking" accidentally convinces customers the food will cost them nothing.

Drew Barrymore (Pillsbury)

It must have been clear to anyone who spotted Drew Barrymore in her early Pillsbury commercial that she was destined to capture our hearts in E.T. the Extra-terrestrial just a few years later. The 1979 ad stars the then-four-year-old as a little girl whose mother cheers her up on a rainy day by making chocolate chip cookies.

Leonardo DiCaprio (Bubble Yum)

Before breaking out with his supporting role in Growing Pains and really hitting big leading the Titanic cast, the up-and-coming Leonardo DiCaprio did a few commercials. One sees the future Oscar winner demonstrate his natural charisma while demonstrating the powerful flavor of Bubble Yum bubble gum.

Arnold Schwarzenegger (Alinamin V)

You may never be able to look at Arnold Schwarzenegger the same way again after witnessing the series of gobsmackingly bizarre ads the Terminator star filmed in Japan long after his big break. As the spokesperson for an energy drink called Alinamin V, the future California governor puts on a maniacally large smile and is sometimes seen riding the beverage's bottle into space or popping out of it like a genie.

Mila Kunis (Telephone Tammy)

Had Mila Kunis' Jackie Burkhart been a child of the '90s, Telephone Tammy – a doll who responds to your call with an included play phone – sounds like the kind of toy she would have grown up with. Not to mention the fact that the future That '70s Show cast member appeared in a commercial for Mattel when she was just starting out.

Morgan Freeman (Polaroid)

Future Academy Award winner and voice-over extraordinaire Morgan Freeman starred in a number of TV commercials early on in his career. One such ad was a 1970s spot for Polaroid, not as the man holding the camera that instantly prints out photos but the man telling the amateur photographer to cool it with the reshoots.

Britney Spears (Maull's)

Die-hard fans of pop superstar Britney Spears know that she started out as a child actor who worked with Ryan Gosling on The Mickey Mouse Club, among other rising stars. One of her earlier roles was a young girl who was apparently very excited to eat a home-cooked hamburger in a commercial for Maull's Barbecue Sauce, a local St. Louis brand.

Mark Hamill (Kodak)

Before playing Luke in the Star Wars movies made him familiar with technology from a galaxy far, far away, Mark Hamill represented what must have felt like a futuristic innovation at the time. He starred in a 1975 commercial for a Kodak camera that takes high-resolution photos from far away, allowing him to snap a shot of his girlfriend (and her mother) on a balcony while he stays on the ground.

Anne Hathaway (Better Homes And Gardens Real Estate)

Academy Award winner Anne Hathaway first showed her talent for performing in romantic dramas like One Day and The Idea of You in a 1996 commercial for Better Homes and Gardens. She plays a young woman who believes she and her boyfriend will still have time to spend before his family moves away until they learn the real estate agency has already sold the house.

J.K. Simmons (Farmers Insurance)

From his memorable roles in HBO's Oz and Sam Raimi's Spider-Man movies, J.K. Simmons was pretty well known by the time he was cast as Professor Nathaniel Burke of the University of Farmers for a long-running Farmers Insurance ad campaign. When he won his Oscar for Whiplash, host Neil Patrick Harris sang an impromptu parody of the company's commercial jingle.

Harrison Ford (Kirin)

One of the earliest, and funniest, stars the legendary Betty White as a dude who needs a bite of the protein-loaded candy bar when his performance in a casual football game is off.

Bruce Willis (Seagram's Coolers)

When he was best known for Moonlighting and before starring in one of the all-time greatest action movies, Die Hard, Bruce Willis had another claim to fame: Seagram's Golden. He served as the adult beverage's spokesperson in a series of ads, some of which utilized his musical talents.

It's a little strange how a performer as widely recognized and beloved as Academy Award nominee Jeff Goldblum would be hired to star in an ongoing ad campaign as an original character and not just as himself. Nevertheless, the star of Jurassic Park and The Fly is dazzling and dazzling in the Apartments.com commercials as Brad Bellflower.

Sharon Stone (Finesse)

In the 1990s, films like Basic Instinct and her Academy Award-nominated role in director Martin Scorsese's Casino made Sharon Stone one of the most esteemed, and desirable, actors of her time. In the 1980s, her looks helped sell Finesse shampoo as one of the most desirable brands in the hair care market.

Jack Black (Pitfall)

It appears that Jack Black's charismatic, high-energy sense of humor was something he possessed from a young age. Exhibit A: his appearance in a 1982 commercial for Atari's Pitfall, as a wide-eyed child in a safari hat enthusiastically recalling his experience in the jungle-set video game, years before he played a jungle-set video game character in Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle.

Sarah Michelle Gellar (Burger King)

No one would have believed, in 1983, that an adorable six-year-old girl who became a recurring spokesperson for Burger King would grow up to become one of the fiercest horror Scream Queens in the genre's history. Yet, that would become Sarah Michelle Gellar's destiny after leading the Buffy the Vampire Slayer cast as the titular defender against evil.

Tobey Maguire (Tropicana Twister)

In 1991, when he was still a teen, Tobey Maguire did an ad for a blended juice drink from Tropicana called Tropicana Twister. The future Spider-Man actor only briefly appears as a kid who breaks the fourth wall, suggesting that broccoli be added to the next unique flavor combination.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt is one of the most acclaimed former child stars who still act, with film and TV credits that back to the late '80s and early '90s like Angels in the Outfield and, of course, 3rd Rock from the Sun. If you go back even earlier than those classics, you can see the future Looper and Inception star in a 1991 ad for Kellogg's Pop-Tarts as a child who child urging his father to have breakfast before he leaves for work and offers him the toaster pastry.

Four-time Emmy winner and one-time Academy Award nominee Bryan Cranston has worn many faces throughout his career, from a hapless suburban dad in the Malcolm in the Middle cast to a ruthless drug lord as the lead of the Breaking Bad cast. Years before then, he wore the face of a spokesperson for Preparation H in a commercial from the early 1980s.

Willem Dafoe (Mercedes Benz)

With roles like one of the best Spider-Man movie villains, Green Goblin, and others, Willem Dafoe has proven time and time again that he plays an exceptional bad guy. Thus, he was the perfect choice to star in a Super Bowl ad for Mercedes Benz as the Devil, who almost convinces a young man to trade his soul for the car until he learns how affordable it is.

Geena Davis (WMET)

With an eclectic career that includes her Academy Award-winning role in The Accidental Tourist, the horror-comedy movie favorite Beetlejuice, and plenty more, it is clear Geena Davis can be anything. So, we imagine early '80s TV viewers who lived in the region where WMET broadcasted had no trouble accepting her as the voice of the local rock radio station when she starred in its enchanting commercial.

Jeremy Renner (Duracell)

Before he was defending the Marvel Cinematic Universe with the Avengers, Jeremy Renner made a living as a commercial actor. One of his greatest hits was a 90s-era Duracell ad in which he plays a tourist in Mexico whose stereo battery harnesses the power of a herd bulls.

John Travolta (U.S. Army)

Years before he played Santa in a Capital One ad and sent up his role in Grease for T-Mobile, John Travolta starred in an Army recruitment promo in 1973. Just four years later, his Academy Award-nominated lead role in Saturday Night Fever made him one of the biggest stars on the planet.

The list of Taylor Sheridan’s shows feels like it's neverending, and the so the Rolodex of famous actors he’s also gotten into said series also feels infinite. From Kevin Costner’s role as John Dutton in the game-changing Yellowstone to Zoë Saldaña and Jeremy Renner’s turns in shows from Sheridan that aren’t about the Dutton family, the group of actors he’s gathered for these projects is staggering. 

Kevin Costner - Yellowstone 

Kevin Costner is kind of the man who started it all. At the time, he was the most famous person in the Yellowstone cast, and for five seasons he played the patriarch of the modern Dutton family, John Dutton. While he did leave Taylor Sheridan’s flagship western after the first half of Season 5, there’s no denying how much this character gave to the show and his career. 

Sam Elliott - 1883 

Some of Sam Elliott’s best movies, like Tombstone, are Westerns. And while Elliott has dabbled in television, there’s no doubt 1883 is a standout moment in his career. He joined Sheridan’s show as Shea Brennan, a Union Civil War veteran who agrees to take a group of immigrants West. He leads the group of pioneers on a journey from Texas to Montana, and Elliott gives a standout performance as the no-nonsense yet emotionally complex leader of the caravan. 

Harrison Ford - 1923 

Harrison Ford had never led a TV show until 2022 when he starred in 1923 as Jacob Dutton. While he’s known and beloved for playing Indiana Jones and Han Solo in film franchises, the Yellowstone prequel series was a fantastic turn in his career as he reunited with Helen Mirren, and led the spectacular cast of 1923. 

Zoë Saldaña - Lioness 

There are so many actors on this list who we likely never thought we’d see leading a TV series because they’re big movie stars. Well, if you’ve seen the Avatar movies or the Marvel movies in order, you’re aware that Zoë Saldaña has been busy for years between those and other projects. However, she joined the cast of Lioness in 2023 Joe, a CIA operative. 

Helen Mirren -1923 

Cara Dutton is one of the leaders of the Dutton household, and Helen Mirren plays her perfectly. She’s a confident Irish woman who knows how to run her household, and she and her husband Jacob are a perfect pair. Part of the reason why is Mirren and Harrison Ford are an excellent couple is they came back together for this project after working together on The Mosquito Coast in 1986. 

Tim McGraw - 1883 

When you think of Tim McGraw, country music is likely the first thing that comes to mind. However, he’s also a great actor, and 1883 proved that as he led the series as James Dutton, the man who moved his family from Tennessee to Montana to the ranch that is known today as The Yellowstone. McGraw played the character – alongside his wife Faith Hill who plays Margaret Dutton – for the first time in Yellowstone, and then after that, he signed on to make this miniseries about the Dutton’s big move. 

Kelly Reilly -Yellowstone 

Kelly Reilly was an established character actor before this, but Yellowstone made her a star. Her turn as Beth Dutton is magnificent, and watching her spar with Wes Bentley’s Jamie Dutton and fall in love with Cole Hauser’s Rip Wheeler are two of the reasons why she’s one of the major highlights of Taylor Sheridan’s flagship series. 

Billy Bob Thornton- 1883 

If you want to see the power of Taylor Sheridan and his casts, look no further than the fact that he got Billy Bob Thornton to make a cameo as Marshal Jim Courtright in Episode 2 of 1883. After that, he went on to sign up to lead Sheridan’s show Landman. However, the television journey within this Paramount universe began on the Yellowstone prequel.  

Jeremy Renner - Mayor Of Kingstown 

After starring in Taylor Sheridan’s film Wind River, Jeremy Renner collaborated with him again by joining the cast of his and Hugh Dillon’s show Mayor of Kingstown. The Avengers actor plays the titular Mayor, Mike McLusky, and he helps broker power between law enforcement, the prison and the power players in the town.  

Cole Hauser - Yellowstone 

Rip Wheeler was branded with the Y when he was young, and he’s given it to many ranch hands who live and work on the Yellowstone. While he’s not a Dutton by blood (though he is by law since he married Beth), he’s arguably one of the most loyal members of the family. Cole Hauser is the man behind this beloved character. While he had roles in big movies like Good Will Hunting, Dazed and Confused and 2 Fast 2 Furious, this part is arguably what made him a star.  

Faith Hill - 1883 

Faith Hill and Tim McGraw have been married since 1996, and in 1883 they played the married couple Margaret and James Dutton. Hill is best known for her music and she had a few minor acting roles earlier in her career. However, this Yellowstone prequel was her first leading role, and she killed it as the surefire, tough and loving pioneer and mother.  

Tom Hanks - 1883 

You’ll probably do a double take when you see Tom Hanks as General George Meade in Episode 2 of 1883. The iconic actor appeared in a flashback that showed Tim McGraw’s character fighting in the Civil War. While we know him for starring in massive movies like Saving Private Ryan and Sleepless in Seattle, in this Taylor Sheridan show, he played a small yet impactful part in this sweeping story.  

David Oyelowo - Lawmen: Bass Reeves 

From The Butler and Selma, David Oyelowo is a formidable actor known best for his roles in these historic dramas. In 2023, he joined Sheridan’s series Lawmen: Bass Reeves, to play the titular man who was the first Black deputy U.S. Marshall. 

Wes Bentley - Yellowstone 

Jamie Dutton is a fascinating character. He’s not a cowboy like his brothers, and he’s always butting heads with his sister Beth. His story is complex and driven by his confusion about his place in his family. Wes Bentley plays this complex and often villainous character so well, and it’s a great addition to his already impressive career that includes films like American Beauty and The Hunger Games.  

Rita Wilson - 1883 

In Episode 6 of 1883, Rita Wilson appears to play a shop owner named Carol. Both she and her husband Tom Hanks had small cameos in this Yellowstone miniseries, and it goes to show how many incredibly famous and talented actors and singers will show up for these shows, even for a small part. 

Shea Whigham - Lawmen: Bass Reeves 

Colonel George Reeves was the Confederate army leader who cheated Bass Reeves out of his freedom. He’s played by Shea Whigham, a fantastic character actor who is known for his roles in TV shows like Perry Mason, Boardwalk Empire and more. It’s also worth mentioning that Lawmen isn’t the first time he’s worked with Sheridan as he had a role in Sicario: Day of the Soldado, which the Yellowstone creator wrote. 

Luke Grimes - Yellowstone 

Much like his on-screen siblings played by Kelly Reilly and Wes Bentley, Luke Grimes had a solid career before Yellowstone. However, his turn as Kayce Dutton made him a household name. Also, on top of his successful acting career, which involves this massive modern Western, he’s a country singer, and his music has been featured in Taylor Sheridan’s show.  

Nicole Kidman - Lioness 

Nicole Kidman plays CIA senior supervisor Kaitlyn Meade in Lioness. Before this, she made an impact in the TV space through the HBO hit Big Little Lies. She also starred in the shows The Undoing and Nine Perfect Strangers before signing on to be part of Taylor Sheridan’s political thriller that airs on Paramount+. 

Sylvester Stallone - Tulsa King 

Other than a few cameos and guest spots here and there, Sylvester Stallone hasn’t really done TV in a big way. However, that changed when he signed on to play Dwight "The General" Manfredi in Taylor Sheridan’s gangster drama Tulsa King. 

Will Patton - Yellowstone 

If you haven’t watched Yellowstone, be warned, there’s a major spoiler ahead! You’ve been warned.

One of the big reveals in Yellowstone came when Jamie found out that John Dutton wasn’t his biological father, and he was adopted. In Seasons 3 and 4, Wes Bentley’s character reconnected with his birth father, Garrett Randall, and he’s played by Will Patton, who is also known for movies like Remember the Titans and Armageddon.  

Morgan Freeman - Lioness 

Of course, Morgan Freeman plays a powerful character in Lioness. The actor with the most illustrious career and seriously iconic voice, joined the Taylor Sheridan show to play Secretary of State Edwin Mullins. 

Dennis Quaid - Lawmen: Bass Reeves 

In Lawmen: Bass Reeves, Dennis Quaid plays Sherrill Lynn. He is one of the series regulars, and like the titular character, he’s a deputy U.S. Marshall. 

Josh Holloway - Yellowstone 

Typically, in a Yellowstone show, one of the Dutton's adversaries is some sort of outsider who is trying to take their land. In Season 3, that guy was named Roarke, and Lost’s Josh Holloway played him. 

Aidan Gillen - Mayor Of Kingstown 

You know and likely love to hate Aidan Gillen as Littlefinger in Game of Thrones. I guarantee you’ll also know and love to hate him as the evil Milo in Mayor of Kingstown too. 

Michael Kelly - Lioness 

Michael Kelly is well known for his roles in action-packed and political thrillers like House of Cards and Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan. So, his joining Lioness to play the CIA’s deputy director Byron Westfield feels very fitting.  

Donald Sutherland - Lawmen: Bass Reeves 

The late great Donald Sutherland’s final role was as Judge Parker in Lawmen: Bass Reeves. From M*A*S*H to The Hunger Games to Pride and Prejudice, and so much more, his career was truly legendary and he capped it off with this Taylor Sheridan show. 

Josh Lucas - Yellowstone 

When you think of John Dutton, Kevin Costner is understandably probably the first person you think of. However, he’s not the only actor who plays the Yellowstone’s patriarch. In flashbacks, he’s portrayed by Josh Lucas, an actor who is also known for his parts in films like Sweet Home Alabama and Ford v. Ferrari. 

Graham Greene - 1883 

In the finale of 1883, Graham Greene plays Spotted Eagle, a Native American leader who helps guide James Dutton toward what will become his home in Montana. Before this, Greene worked with Sheridan on the film Wind River, and he has a history with other members of the Yellowstone cast as he performed alongside Kevin Costner on Dances with Wolves. 

Jacki Weaver - Yellowstone 

Jacki Weaver – an actress known for her roles in films like Silver Linings Playbook and Animal Kingdom – joined Yellowstone in Season 4 as Caroline Warner. She’s one of the folks who works at Market Equities, and she’s trying to obtain part of the Dutton’s ranch to build an airport.

Jerome Flynn -1923 

Jerome Flynn is best known for playing Bronn – a killer and cynical mercenary – on Game of Thrones. In 1923, he plays Banner Creighton, a rancher who gets into a partnership with a businessman who is trying to take the Dutton’s ranch. 

Andrea Savage - Tulsa King 

You likely know Andrea Savage as a comedic actress because of her roles in shows like I’m Sorry, Episodes and Veep. However, she turned into the dramatic genre and showed off a different side of her range by playing Stacy Beale in Tulsa King. 

Neal McDonough - Yellowstone

You can always count on Neal McDonough to play a really good bad guy. He did it in DC’s Arrowverse as Damien Darhk. He did it in Justified as Robert Quarles. Of course, he did it in Yellowstone too, as he played one of Season 2’s antagonists, Malcolm Beck. 

Overall, the list of performers who have worked on one of Taylor Sheridan’s many shows is overwhelming and growing. From A-listers to legendary character actors, many have said yes to working on these series, and that will likely keep happening as the super producer and writer continues to create. 

The 2025 movie schedule is filled with feature films that I’m looking forward to seeing, but there are a few titles that really have pumped. One of those is Rian Johnson’s Knives Out 3, which has stirred up much buzz in recent months. The film, which is formally titled Wake Up Dead Man, began filming earlier this summer, with Johnson’s all-star cast reporting for duty. Now, surprisingly, it would seem that the latest installment in the murdery-mystery franchise has already wrapped. That was confirmed via some killer social media posts from both Johnson and cast member Jeremy Renner, and they’ve just made me even more excited for the flick.

Jeremy Renner shared the news on his Instagram story this afternoon. The fan-favorite actor marked the occasion by sharing a selfie, which appears to provide the public with its first glimpse at his character. He also captioned the photo with an enthusiastic message, “That’s a wrap!!!!” You can check out the post for yourself down below:

Even though the post itself only represents a small behind-the-scenes tidbit from production, I’ll certainly take it! It’s also cool that the star provided what appears to be the first look at his character, whose name (of course) has yet to be revealed. As sweet as this post is though, it’s Rian Johnson’s that really has my interest piqued. The witty Looper director signified the end of principal photography with a black-and-white photo. When looking at Johnson’s snapshot, one can see what appears to be a cemetery in the background. But, at the forefront, is a note with a cheeky – and somewhat morbid – message:

As you can see above, the Star Wars: The Last Jedi director also included a sweet message as his caption. He thanked the cast and crew for their efforts while calling this shoot a “very special experience.” Based on BTS stories that have been shared about the previous Knives Out movies, it seems like the filmmaker and his collaborators have a lot of fun making these flicks. That would definitely track in this fan’s opinion, given just how enjoyable each of the films are.

Rian Johnson marked the beginning of filming in June by sharing a wild photo of Daniel Craig’s Benoit Blanc, the lead character of the franchise. As was the case with the first two installments, fans are particularly excited about the ensemble of actors that’s been assembled. They were so pumped they even shared “unhinged” casting ideas early on. But officially joining Craig and the aforementioned Jeremy Renner are Josh Brolin, Glenn Close, Kerry Washington, Mila Kunis, Andrew Scott, Josh O’Connor, Cailee Spaeny, Thomas Haden Church and Daryl McCormack.

It’ll also be intriguing to see just what kind of mystery Rian Johnson has cooked up for this latest installment. While death has always been a theme in this franchise, the title for the threequel suggests that this upcoming movie will be particularly morbid. I’m also curious as to why the usually dapper Benoit Blanc looked so disheveled in the first-look image Johnson shared. There are a lot of questions that need to be considered, and history would suggest that it’ll be a while before fans are provided with some bread crumbs.

Regardless, I’m just comforted by the fact that the movie is officially in the can and is about to be edited. Considering how good the first two entries in the series are, the Brick director certainly has a high bar to clear. But I have no doubt that he, Jeremy Renner and their collaborators will accomplish just that!

Of all the news concerning upcoming Marvel movies that was announced at San Diego Comic-Con last weekend, unquestionably the biggest of the bunch was that Robert Downey Jr. is returning to the MCU! However, rather than reprising Tony Stark/Iron Man, he’ll instead play Doctor Doom, a casting decision that’s drawn mixed reactions from fans. Regardless, credit goes to Downey for keeping the information tightly under wraps until Marvel’s Hall H panel, as Jeremy Renner revealed that even he didn’t know this was coming while reacting to the news about his Avengers co-star.

Renner, who first played Clint Barton/Hawkeye opposite Downey’s Tony in 2012’s The Avengers, discussed this game-changing move while talking with Us Weekly. Like the majority of the population, the Mayor of Kingstown lead didn’t learn about Downey playing Doctor Doom until seeing the news online. In his words:

Robert Downey Jr. and Jeremy Renner have had a “family chat” going with Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Evans and Mark Ruffalo going for “a long time,” showing that the OG Avengers actors are close in real life rather than just mere coworkers. And yet, Downey didn’t loop these five in ahead of time about playing Doctor Doom, much to Renner’s chagrin. I imagine this had more to do with Downey signing an airtight NDA from Marvel Studios rather than slighting his cohorts. Anyone who follows the MCU news cycle knows that this company doesn’t play when it comes to keeping secrets.

That aside, Renner is among the people who are looking forward to seeing how Downey does as Doctor Doom. While chiefly known as the Fantastic Four’s arch-nemesis, Doom has long been an antagonist who’s clashed with all sorts of heroes in the Marvel universe. Now he’s set to be the main villain in Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, replacing Kang the Conqueror following Jonathan Majors being fired last December.

It’s been reported that in addition to his new Marvel contract netting over $80 million, a private jet and security detail, Robert Downey Jr.’s biggest condition for playing Doctor Doom was having directors Joe and Anthony Russo helm the next two Avengers movies. Like Downey, the Russos haven’t contributed to the MCU since 2019’s Avengers: Endgame, but now these three are gearing up to help shake things up for these capstone releases in The Multiverse Saga. And while not officially confirmed, that same report also mentioned that Downey will first appear as Doctor Doom in a mid/post-credits scene for 2025’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps.

While we wait for more news about what to expect from Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom, remember that Renner’s last MCU outing, the Hawkeye miniseries, can be streamed with a Disney+ subscription. Last year, when Season 2 of Mayor of Kingstown came out, Taylor Handley told me about the “brotherly love” his character Kyle and Jeremy Renner's character Mike share, and over the last three seasons we’ve gotten to see that relationship grow and evolve. Now, with Season 3 of the Paramount+ show close to the end of its run on the 2024 TV schedule, the Kyle actor opened up about working with Renner, and why it’s been “one of the highlights” of his career.

During an interview with CinemaBlend, I asked Handley what kind of conversations he’s had with Renner that have helped them comprehend and act out everything in Season 3. Considering both Kyle and Mike lost their mom and they welcomed a new baby into the world, making Handley’s character a father and Renner’s an uncle, they've been dealing with an overwhelming amount of change. That led to the Kyle actor revealing that he loves that they don’t really talk it out behind the scenes, they just go for it:

While Jeremy Renner has been candid about his recovery from the snowplow accident and how those injuries impacted his work and character on Kingstown, his co-stars have only gushed about him. The show’s co-creator and Ian actor, Hugh Dillon, told me they prepped for Renner’s return, but did so with caution. However, the Mike actor came back with gusto, filming some of his own action sequences and easily harnessing his character’s swagger again. Handley told me that he loves working with Renner because of the love and energy he brings to the set.

Both the Avengers actor and Dillon are musicians as well as actors, so it made sense when the Kyle performer elaborated on his point by saying:

I love that this is the energy between Handley and Renner, and it makes me very excited to see scenes between Mike and Kyle in the next two episodes.

Warning, spoilers for Episodes 7 and 8 of Mayor of Kingstown Season 3 are ahead!

For example, in Episode 8, we saw Mike react to Tracy’s terrifying attack, and it will be enthralling to see the moment Kyle finds out. I imagine the brothers will seek justice and revenge for their family member in the final two episodes of Season 3, and hopefully that leads to some dynamic moments between the actors.

This season of Kingstown has been brutal, intense, and one of transition for both Mike and Kyle. It’s been entertaining to see them interact as Handley’s character learns how to be a dad and the ropes of his new job, as Mike continues to broker power in the town. And I can’t wait for more!

Well, Stephen King has started watching Mayor of Kingstown, and his reactions are delightful! The beloved author has been tweeting as he’s been watching the Jeremy Renner-led show (which is currently airing Season 3 on the 2024 TV schedule), and he gave it his stamp of approval. As a fan of this show from Hugh Dillion and Taylor Sheridan, I must say, the writer is so on-point with his reasons for loving it.

What Stephen King Said About Mayor Of Kingstown

Stephen King went on quite the posting spree about Mayor of Kingstown. However, it all started with him giving it his stamp of approval as he wrote on X:

Kingstown is about the power balances between the police department, the gangs in the town and the prison system that connects them all. It’s gritty, violent, dark, and as King tweeted “everybody says fuck a lot.” So, these comparisons make sense.

Getting into some specifics about the show, the author was quite humorous as he reacted to Mayor of Kingstown. For instance, he posted that all he knew about Renner’s Mike McLusky was that he drove around in “a badass Lincoln Connie” and that “Bunny is a badass.” He also wrote about how much he liked Hugh Dillon’s character, which Dillon got a real kick out of, as he reposted it on his Instagram:

Rounding out Stephen King’s thoughts on this Paramount+ show, he made sure to recognize everything Jeremy Renner has been through as he posted:

This is true, Renner got hit by the snowplow in January 2023, and he was back on set for Season 3 almost exactly one year later. During an interview with CinemaBlend, he told us that he had to “interject” his life and injuries into Mike. However, as Dillon noted, the Avengers actor was back in action quicker than anyone expected.

All this is to say, there are a lot of reasons to enjoy this show, and I must say, I completely agree with all the reasons Mr. King has stated.

Why I Agree 100% With His Assessment Of Jeremy Renner’s Show

I have to admit, I also have “no fucking clue what’s going on in Mayor of Kingstown” a lot of the time, but that’s part of the fun. Trying to figure out the power dynamics in the town and who might be betraying who is what makes the show entertaining.

For example, currently, it’s unclear who Iris’ allegiances lie with after that intense interaction between her, Mike and Konstantin and the deals she made with both of them, which makes me so curious about what will happen next. So, I completely agree with Stephen King’s assessment.

Plus, his comments about Jeremy Renner coming back for a third season ring so true. Hugh Dillon told me that they weren’t sure how the show would go on after the accident. However, they came back incredibly strong, and Renner’s performance in Season 3 is impressive.

When it comes to Iris on Mayor of Kingstown, she’s still a big mystery. While we’ve seen Emma Laird’s character make shocking decisions for three seasons now, and we’ve gotten to know her a bit through her relationship with Mike, when it comes to her past, it’s one big question mark. However, that changed in Season 3, Episode 5, when we found out Iris has a history with Konstantin and witnessed the “intense” and “awkward” interaction between her, this season’s big bad, and Jeremy Renner’s Mayor. Now, we’ve learned more about what it took to shoot that scene from Laird herself, so let’s break it down.

Throughout the first half of Kingstown’s latest episode, we see Iris and Konstantin catching up, and we learn that they have a rich history – however, the specifics of how they know each other are still unknown. Like the viewers, Mike learned about this connection in this installment, and Emma Laird told me during an interview with CinemaBlend that shooting this interaction was intense, partly because she’s very close with both actors:

In the show, both Mike and Konstantin clearly care for Iris, and it sounds like the same is true when it comes to how Renner and van Wageningen feel about Laird. This confrontational moment was the first time all three were in a room together, and it was clear that their histories with Iris were making matters complicated as Mike tried to negotiate with Konstantin about the drug poisonings before the bar they were in got shot up.

The actress behind Iris told me that it was the first scene they also shot together, and that it was a “really tense day,” explaining:

In the scene, Iris is literally and figuratively kind of stuck between Mike and Konstantin, and as the episode progresses, it is revealed that she is going to work as a double agent of sorts to get intel for Renner’s character. However, her real motives are still a mystery, making matters even more intense and potentially awkward.

Much like the death of Mike’s mom and the cars exploding at KPD, the thread introduced through Mike, Iris and Konstantin’s tense meeting at the bar is sure to impact the rest of the show.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has become wildly popular over the last decade and change of filmmaking, with fans constantly looking forward to upcoming Marvel movies. Those of us who have spent years watching the Marvel movies in order know that the shared universe as we know it really began with Joss Whedon's The Avengers (which is streaming with a Disney+ subscription). But are The Avengers actors really as close as they seem on social media? Apparently so, with one actor being quoted saying ‘I’d rather go to jail with Downey than go do something amazing by myself." 

The OG Avengers spent a long time playing their signature roles, with some actors departing the shared universe such as Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, and Scarlett Johansson. Jeremy Renner is still playing Hawkeye, and recently spoke to Men's Health about his ongoing relationship with his fellow superheroes. When asked if they're really that close, he said:

Well, he certainly didn't mince his words. The Avengers really are that close, and seemingly aren't happy with people faking it on social media. Now if only fans could have access to that famous group chat. 

Jeremy Renner's comments are sure to go viral, given how much fans love the OG Avengers. Indeed, their close relationship has been proven a number of times over the years. Case in point: after Renner's harrowing snowplow injuries, he was given a ton of support by folks like Robert Downey Jr.. 

Later in that same interview, the Mayor of Kingstown actor explained how the OG Avengers were bonded by their many years in the MCU. They seemingly grew as people, and became lifelong friends while bringing the first three stages of the shared universe. As he put it:

Talk about a close bond. It sounds like Renner would be happy to be with co-stars like RDJ and Chris Evans... even if it was for a bad reason. That speaks volumes about the bond of that ensemble, one that will likely continue years after they finish their tenures in the MCU. We'll just have to wait and see how long the remaining Avengers stay in their signature roles.

Jeremy Renner has been a major Hollywood star for years now and is known for giving physically and emotionally demanding roles. However, in 2023, his life took a devastating turn when he suffered a severe snow plow accident. Since then, the lead actor from The Hurt Locker has been on a challenging path to recovery. Renner’s comeback is truly inspirational, but he has recently shared that his return to the spotlight and his recovery has come with struggles and significant obstacles.

The Town actor recently opened up on the Smartless podcast, hosted by Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes and Will Arnett. It was there that he discussed the intense challenge of balancing his recovery with the demanding nature of acting. The conversation provided a raw and honest look at the psychological and physical toll that his journey back to the screen has taken on him and how it impacts his performances. He told the hosts:

In January 2023, Jeremy Renner was run over by his 14,000-pound Sno-Cat while trying to save his nephew. The incident left the Marvel actor with over 30 broken bones, severe blunt chest trauma and orthopedic injuries. His path to recovery has been arduous, involving extensive surgeries and rehabilitation. Needless to say, despite his superhero image on the screen, the Wind River alum has faced a genuine and painful healing process.

Earlier this year, Jeremy Renner's return to the set of Mayor of Kingstown–the third season just premiered on the 2024 TV schedule–marked a significant milestone in his recovery. For a long time, it was uncertain when or if he would act again. The Hollywood A-lister admitted to the podcast hosts that he was "very terrified" about resuming his acting career. He went on to explain during the chat (which was shared on YouTube):

The Mission: Impossible veteran candidly shared the difficulty of transitioning from focusing on his health to embodying a character. His role as Mike McLusky on Mayor of Kingstown provided some familiarity, making it easier for him to slide back into acting. However, he admitted that taking on a more demanding or psychologically taxing role would have been unfeasible at this stage in his recovery:

Jeremy Renner’s full interview offers an empowering and raw glimpse into his life. The Hawkeye actor also revealed that he is working on a book about his experiences on and off the big screen and is aiming for a release by the end of this year or early 2025. Personally, I can't wait to read it. I'm also looking forward to what kind of acting work he does next and hope he continues to overcome internal and external hurdles in the process.

Secrets can be a currency in Kingstown, and they are quite literally the cause of life and death. In Iris’ case, she’s withholding a massive secret that caused quite the issue in Episode 3 of Mayor of Kingstown. While we might not know what it is yet, she did confide in Hugh Dillon’s character Ian, and the actor told CinemaBlend why. 

Iris is known for making big decisions and bold moves for convoluted and mysterious reasons. In Episode 3, she was arrested, and to get out she needed to give her fingerprints. She refused to do it, and she wouldn't tell anyone why, including Jeremy Renner's Mike. However, eventually, she told Ian after they shared a stern conversation, and Dillon explained the significance of her secret and why she did eventually tell him to me:

While it feels like Ian and Iris are strangers because they haven’t spent much time together across the show’s three seasons, they are deeply connected. They both have strong relationships with Mike, and they are some of the most important people in the Mayor’s life. Plus, in the Season 2 finale, Ian really came through to save Iris, which Dillon explained while he went through his character’s thought process during this scene: 

Continuing to explain his own character’s mindset, as well as the thought process Iris was probably having because of it, Dillon told me that if she didn’t tell Ian this secret it would cause more harm than good. He explained: 

Dillon went on to say that this was 100% Iris’ decision and that Ian hoped she could find it in her to trust him. As the actor said: 

Between Mike dealing with the death of his mom, Kyle being a new dad, the ongoing issues of the poisonings and car explosions in the KPD parking lot and a funeral, Iris’ mystery is another ongoing issue that will need to be solved. Luckily, she didn’t keep it to herself to let trouble brew further.

I think it’s a good thing Ian knows. Hopefully, while she said not to tell Mike, Ian is able to help her out, bring Renner’s character into the fold somehow, and maybe they’ll be able to resolve the issue that caused her to not want to give up her prints.

Things are starting to heat up and explode, literally, on Mayor of Kingstown. In Episode 3 of the Jeremy Renner-led show, we saw Mike starting to interact with Constantine, Iris keeping a big secret about her past, and the explosion of an entire parking lot of KPD cars. It was an intense last few minutes, and it’s bound to have serious implications on what’s to come. So, when I had the chance to chat with Bunny actor Tobi Bamtefa about all of this, he recalled the story of when he read the script. And let me tell you, I’m right there with him. 

In the final seconds of this episode, Ian (Hugh Dillon, who is also the show’s co-creator) and his colleagues were walking out of the police station and headed toward their cars when a car exploded. From there, multiple other vehicles in the parking lot blew up and caught fire, and it was a very clear attack on the Kingstown police. This is the second explosion of the season, and it was shocking due to its scale. 

Bamtefa was also shocked by this, and he had quite the reaction when he read the script for the first time, as he told me this funny story during an interview for CinemaBlend:

We’ve witnessed many explosive moments in Mayor of Kingstown as well as quite a few shocking “Taylor Sheridan moments,” as Hugh Dillon put it once, that serve as major turning points in a season. Every time, I feel like screaming for ten minutes, and this one in particular sent me into a spin like Bamtefa was describing. 

At this point, we don’t really know who is blowing up these cars, and it’s one of a few very violent reoccurring things that have happened this season. 

Following the death of Mike’s mom, during her funeral, a car was blown up. I assume that this explosion is probably linked to that. However, we’ve also learned about the poisoning happening within the prison and how Bunny’s gang is seemingly being framed for it. 

So, we don’t know how the explosion connects to Bunny and the Crips or the other gangs in this game. If I were Tobi Bamtefa reading this script, my questions after this moment would have revolved around who did it and how Bunny was impacted by it. And yes, I would have called Hugh Dillon immediately too. 

Overall, this moment just signifies that peace is not in Kingstown’s future (no matter how badly I want Mike and those around him to find it). They have multiple bad guys to work with right now, with both Constantine and Merle Callahan coming in as big players, and we’re still waiting to see how Bunny will play into this game too. Currently, he’s on the defensive, and it will be interesting to see how he’s impacted by the explosion and the new players in the town. 

Hopefully, we’ll get some answers about this explosion soon. However, for now, I’ll be mentally where Tobi Bamtefa was when he read this script and screaming about this shocking and literally explosive moment on Mayor of Kingstown. 

If you’ve been watching Mayor of Kingstown as new episodes air on the 2024 TV schedule, you have probably noticed that Jeremy Renner is on his A-game. After a near-fatal snowplow accident that seriously injured him, the actor got back to work on the third season of Kingstown about a year after that life-changing scary event. Now, the show’s co-creator Hugh Dillon has opened up about how he prepared for his star's return to work and the optimism that they all needed to have. 

When I spoke to Hugh Dillon about Season 2 of Kingstown about a year and a half ago, he recalled the funny NSFW conversation he had with Renner right after his accident that made him realize his friend and co-star would be OK. However, there was still a lot of uncertainty. The Hurt Locker actor had broken over 30 bones in the accident, which he revealed in an interview with ABC, and the road to recovery was long. So, the prospect of getting back to work was intimidating, but they didn’t lose hope, as the co-creator and Ian actor told me:

So, they created. While both Renner’s injuries and the actors’ and writers’ strikes put an unexpected pause on the show’s progress, they were excited to get back to work. Dillon said it was also his way of helping his friend was to support him and keep moving forward on their show. He said:

It seems like everyone, especially Dillon and Renner, was cautiously optimistic about Season 3 and what was to come. The co-creator went on to tell me that his whole team is really driven and positive. He also believed in his star’s abilities and knew he’d get back to work. He told me:

That hope and optimism paid off too, The Avengers star was able to do some of his own stunts on the show and bring that swagger his character Mike has back in full force. As Hugh Dillon told me: “holy fuck, he’s back!” 

Obviously, Jeremy Renner had to “interject” his own life into the show because he’s still recovering from that frightening accident. He told me during an interview that he “forced myself to interject some limitations of my physical body and all these things.” The Wind River actor didn’t know what he’d be able to do when they started, however, they quickly learned his limits and that he was actually able to get back in action quickly. Overall, he’s thriving and so is the show.

A year and a half ago, I interviewed Mayor of Kingstown’s co-creator Hugh Dillon about Season 2 not long after Jeremy Renner’s near-fatal snowplow accident. At the time, he told me that he knew the Avengers star would be OK, however, the actor was also still deep in the throes of recovery. Now, the Paramount+ show’s star is back in action, and the co-creator and actor behind Ian told me about the moment he realized Renner was really ready to rock at full force. 

Season 3 of Mayor of Kingstown just premiered on the 2024 TV schedule, and I had the chance to chat with Hugh Dillon about the first few episodes and working with Jeremy Renner. Kingstown went into production about a year after the leading actor’s accident, and the Flashpoint actor noted that at the time his co-star wasn’t at full confidence just yet. However, he believed in his friend, as he said:

Renner was cautiously optimistic going into Kingstown production, and so was Dillon. I asked both men about filming the show, and they noted that the Mike actor was able to jump back into the action quicker than expected. While the Hawkeye star had to “interject” his own physical limitations and recovery into the show, he was also able to do a lot of the things he’s always been able to do. 

Dillon told me about a specific fight scene that proved that Jeremy Renner was back in action, as he said:

He is back! As I’ve noted before, if I wasn’t aware of Renner’s recovery journey, I wouldn’t even have known he is still working back to full health just by watching Mayor of Kingstown.

Hugh Dillon went on to tell me that his lead actor surprised himself when he did that action sequence, as he said:

When I interviewed Renner, he noted that his ability to get back into the swing of things, especially when it came to the action, was emotional, which makes sense. He's gone through so much in the last year and a half, and being able to perform at such a high level while still healing has to be incredibly gratifying for everyone involved in the show. 

In the first episodes of Mayor of Kingstown’s third season, we’ve seen Renner’s character deal with major tragedy, and things are really heating up, so more action is inevitable. However, as the show has proven, and Dillon and Renner have said, he’s not just ready for it, he’s killing it.

Fans have been eagerly waiting for news on Knives Out 3 since the release of the second film in the franchise, Glass Onion. Well, the powers that be have been good to us as of late, as various updates have been dropping. More specifically, it’s now known that the threequel is officially titled Wake Up Dead Man. Casting reports have also been pouring in, with Jeremy Renner and Kerry Washington among those who’ve been tapped for roles. Now, it’s been revealed that another Marvel alum is joining Renner in the film, and I hope they have the same kind of hero/villain dynamic in this production. 

Writer/director Rian Johnson really knows how to put together an ensemble and, thus far, he really seems to be outdoing himself for the latest chapter centered around Daniel Craig’s Benoit Blanc. Well, Johnson just tapped another major actor in the form of Oscar nominee Josh Brolin, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Unsurprisingly, details on Brolin’s role have yet to be revealed as is also the case with the overall plot. Still, this is an exciting bit of news and a sweet pick-up for Johnson and co. 

Josh Brolin has played a variety of roles throughout his illustrious career, most recently reprising his role as Gurney Halleck in Dune: Part Two and returning as Royal Abbott on Outer Range Season 2. Of course, plenty of people probably know him best for his role as the Mad Titan Thanos in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. As part of that massive franchise, he was a co-star of Jeremy Renner, who notably played Clint Barton/Hawkeye. So the two played characters on opposing sides of a conflict, and it’d be great to see them be in similar spaces in their latest film. 

The idea of one playing a nice guy and the other playing an antagonist is quite delicious, regardless of whoever would fit into the respective roles. What might be particularly fun, though, would be to see the Thanos actor play someone a bit more noble and his former co-star portray an antagonist. Either way, I’m really hoping that these two have plenty of screen and that Rian Johnson uses them to the best of their abilities. 

My hope in that regard also extends to the rest of the film’s star-studded cast. The first two actors to be officially linked to the film were Cailee Spaeny, of Civil War and Priscilla fame, and Josh O’Conner, who’s just coming off the success of Challengers. Joining the young talent are seasoned pros Andrew Scott, Kerry Washington, Mila Kunis and Glenn Close had also been cast. Also tapped for a role is Daryl McCormack of Good Luck to You, Leo Grande and the upcoming Twisters.

Jeremy Renner’s casting is particularly interesting, given the fact that a joke was made about the actor himself in Glass Onion. With that, a number of fans argued that Renner could only play himself in this next film. Upon seeing those comments though, the actor dropped an A+ response. In general, since it was confirmed in January that the movie would film this year, fans began dreaming up casts. That’s only increased since the title was revealed, and they became so prevalent that the official social media account for the film called out viewers for their “unhinged casting” ideas, which were also brilliant in some respects. 

I’m incredibly excited to see how this talented ensemble comes together in this latest mystery from the mind of Rian Johnson. What I’ll be wishing for from this point on as well is that Jeremy Renner and Josh Brolin’s two characters come to blows at some point during the likely humorous and twist-filled proceedings.
