Big Brother: Unlocked is returning to the 2026 TV schedule, and it's adding a notable celebrity superfan to the panel. Jerry O'Connell will be added to the panel alongside former Big Brother winners Taylor Hale and Derrick Levasseur, as they break down all the goings-on of Season 28. It's news that I'm psyched to hear, and honestly, it has me more invested in the series than ever.

While I'm usually watching Big Brother's live feeds with my Paramount+ subscription, I did occasionally tune into Big Brother: Unlocked when they had someone that I liked, or a big-name celebrity like James Gunn. O'Connell is someone who checks off both boxes for me, and I think he'll provide a big boost to the budding recap show.

Taylor and Derrick did a solid enough job in their inaugural season of Big Brother: Unlocked, but I think adding an established television host like Jerry O'Connell will add a lot to the overall product. He was a co-host on the daytime series The Talk for years before its cancellation, and also hosts the game show version of Pictionary. BB fans may also remember he filled in for Julie Chen Moonves when she contracted COVID and was unable to appear in one episode in Season 26.

He's also an entertainer, and anyone who's seen his movies, shows, panels, or podcast appearances knows this. He may not be able to speak to the experience of playing Big Brother like Taylor and Derrick can, but he's more than capable of steering a show in a direction that could make it more entertaining and engaging for its audience.

BB: Unlocked Features A New "Fan Vote" That Will Impact The Season

Jerry O'Connell joining Big Brother: Unlocked is exciting, as is the new voting feature that will debut during the premiere episode. CBS announced a "new interactive fan vote" that will have a major impact on the game, which sounds very interesting. It also appears BB: Unlocked will feature a live-studio audience, which may also factor into this new twist.

So it sounds like if viewers want to have an impact on Season 28 of Big Brother, they're going to need to tune into BB: Unlocked. I'm certainly curious about this whole voting thing, and if it ties in at all to the theme and twist of Season 28, or has anything to do with returning houseguests.

In any case, if the goal in hiring on Jerry O'Connell and adding a fan vote was to get me more invested in BB: Unlocked, mission accomplished. I'm afraid I'm going to have to cancel more plans than I previously thought, and double-check that my Paramount+ subscription is up to date ahead of the big premiere!

Tune in for the premiere of Big Brother: Unlocked, which will air on CBS on Friday, July 10th at 8:00 p.m. ET. Of course, the Season 28 premiere will happen the day before, and then there's another episode on Sunday! I might as well cancel my plans for the entire weekend at this point, and I'm not mad about it.

As the 2026 Oscar winners were announced, the show paused for a moment to pay tribute to the people we lost in the last year. This segment included a major section devoted to Rob and Michele Reiner, who died in December 2025. During that moment, a bunch of actors who worked with the late director came out on stage to honor them. However, Corey Feldman was not one of them. Now, the Stand By Me actor has opened up about not being included in the in memorium.

For the tribute to Rob Reiner, Billy Crystal – who was in When Harry Met Sally, The Princess Bride and This Is Spinal Tap – gave a speech about the director, his work and his legacy. Then, after that, 17 actors who had all worked with Reiner came out on stage together to honor him and Michele. Corey Feldman was not there; however, his Stand By Me co-stars, Jerry O’Connell, Wil Wheaton and Kiefer Sutherland were. Speaking about all that, the Goonies actor told EW:

During this segment, Conan O’Brien, who was hosting the Oscars and was a close friend of Reiner, introduced the in memorium and Billy Crystal. The When Harry Met Sally star then came out and gave a speech that touched on key moments and films throughout the director’s career. He was the only person to speak on stage about Rob and Michele.

After Crystal’s speech, 17 actors came out together. This group was made up of performers who starred in This Is Spinal Tap, Stand By Me, The Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally, A Few Good Men, Misery, The American President and The Sure Thing, and you can see the full list of them below:

Overall, the group starred in some of the best movies from the ‘80s, great films from the ‘90s, and a few of the best rom-coms ever made. So, it was lovely and overwhelming to see them all on the stage at the same time.

However, there were plenty of notable stars missing from this lineup. While we don’t know why some people weren’t there, Feldman did share his take on the whole situation. He made it clear that he was very happy it happened. But he also did feel like he wasn’t invited to “a family reunion,” as he explained:

Again, while the Stand By Me actor felt a bit left out, that’s not what he’s choosing to focus on.

Rob and Michele Reiner were tragically killed in December, and since then, tons of people who have worked with and admired them have paid tribute. Then, at the Oscars, the in memorium kicked off with this moment involving Crystal and lots of actors they had collaborated with, before it moved on to honor other greats we lost through a classic in memorium as well as two more breakout sections dedicated to the late Diane Keaton and Catherine O’Hara, which was done by Rachel McAdams, and the late Robert Redford, which Barbra Streisand came out for.

Sadly, this tribute didn’t include everyone. However, as Feldman said, it was still a lovely and moving way to pay homage to the great stars we lost in 2025.

While scary movies are thriving right now, some of the best horror movies are in the rear view. Chief among them the first two Scream movies, directed by late filmmaker Wes Craven. The first sequel came out back in 1997, and featured an all-star cast including Jerry O'Connell. And he recently took to social media to explain his cringe-worthy singing in Derek's musical number.

Scream is one of the best horror franchises, with new movies still being made today (and streaming with a Paramount+ subscription). The first two installments continue to be fan favorites, although Jerry O'Connell's vocal stylings as his character belted out "I Think I Love You" to Sidney have left something to be desired. Over on Twitter the actor/host explained how he approached that sequence, offering:

Well, at least the Stand By Me actor has a good sense of humor about this sequence. And his perspective does help to offer some much-needed context; he wasn't trying to sound good. Instead, he thought it would be more endearing if Derek sounded bad. After all, the character wasn't a trained singer, he was a college student and frat bro.

O'Connell offered this BTS tidbit in response to a tweet that praised Scream 2 as a great horror sequel. Derek was a red herring for the identity of Ghostface, and ended up being brutally murdered in front of Neve Campbell's Sidney Prescott in the final battle. He's just one of a few Scream boyfriends who didn't end up being the killer.

I have to wonder if Derek will end up referenced in the franchise's next installment. What we know about Scream 7 is limited, but it'll seemingly focus on Sidney Prescott's trauma and history in the franchise. A number of dead characters have been confirmed to somehow return including Matthew Lillard's Stu Macher, David Arquette's Dewey Riley, and Scott Foley's Roman Bridger. In the Scream 7 trailer Sidney's daughter Tatum was shown wearing her jacket from Scream 2, so Derek being name dropped definitely seems possible.

Luckily for fans of the long-running franchise, our questions should be answered shortly. Scream 7 is nearly upon us, and the studio has been good about promoting the film without giving away any spoilers. So if Jerry O'Connell is either seen or referenced it'll be a big surprise.

All will be revealed when Scream 7 hits theaters on February 27th as part of the 2026 movie release list. As for Jerry O'Connell, he can be seen in the upcoming series S.W.A.T. Exiles.

Each new detail about the tragic killing of Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, feels darker than the last. The couple was found dead in their Brentwood, California home earlier this month. Authorities have since arrested their son, Nick Reiner, charging him with two counts of first-degree murder. As the investigation continues, reports have revealed more about the Hollywood couple’s final days, including a dinner with close friend Maria Shriver just 48 hours before their deaths and a Christmas party where Rob and Nick were reportedly involved in a heated argument. Nick was later taken into custody and now faces life in prison without parole or the death penalty if convicted, as tributes for Rob and Michele continue to pour in from across Hollywood.

The Kangaroo Jack star has repeatedly described the sitcom staple-turned-moviemaker as the best director he has ever worked with, praising not just his filmography but also the way he treated people. People of a certain age are about to feel very old when I write that Stand By Me will turn 40 next year. The coming-of-age film was a major influence for a generation, which may be why the cast isn’t actually waiting for the 40th anniversary to celebrate the film. With that, one of the film's lead actors, Jerry O'Connell celebrated by channeling his character in a major way.

Stand by Me is the story about the emotional journey of four boys, who journey just outside their small town to track down a dead body. The experience of filming the movie was also emotional for the actors. Unfortunately, Wil Wheaton has discussed the emotional abuse he suffered during production. However, he also made lifelong friends, as Wheaton and Jerry O'Connell are still close.

This 1986 film is generally regarded as one of the best Stephen King adaptations ever put to film. Director Rob Reiner also calls it his favorite film of those he's made. It, like The Shawshank Redemption (which appeared in the same book) isn’t the usual Stephen King story, as it lacks anything supernatural. It’s just a story of friendship among a quartet of friends.

Seeing Jerry O’Connell in that shirt and pants really does bring back a lot of memories. He also apparently brought the comb and the cherry Pez as well, which was a nice touch. Those are references that will mean little if you’re not familiar with Stand by Me, but will mean everything to those who know it well.

It’s great to see these three stars of Stand By Me together again after four decades. Of course, it's also bittersweet, as one member is missing. River Phoenix played the fourth member of the group, and the actor passed away in 1993. Nevertheless, O'Connell and Phoenix's other co-stars have firmly been keeping this film's legacy alive -- and his performance as a result -- which I love to see.

The live tour of Stand by Me has dates on the east and west coast scheduled for March 2026, and tickets are still available for most dates. Those who'd like to watch the film now can also stream it with a Netflix subscription.

Actor and media personality Jerry O’Connell is quite active when it comes to social media. His feeds are typically flooded not only with thoughts and comments but also with a slew of photos featuring celebrities he crosses paths with. Despite having that in mind, I can’t say I would’ve expected O’Connell to post a photo with John Stamos – who was previously married to his wife, Rebecca Romijn. More than a few fans took notice of the unexpected pairing and, needless to say, they have some truly excellent thoughts.

My first instinct was to assume that a big event was what brought John Stamos and Jerry O’Connell together, and I was right. Both actors attended Howie Mandel’s 70th birthday on Saturday, November 22. Sometime during or after the festivities, O’Connell took to his Instagram to share the selfie he took with Stamos and the Full House icon’s wife, Caitlin (who he met on Law & Order: SVU). Take a look at the post, which also includes a joke about another high-profile meeting that recently took place at the White House:

Considering the drama that spilled over between O’Connell and Stamos a few years ago, this is big. Their reported feud began in 2023 after Stamos released his memoir, If You Would Have Told Me, in which he made pointed comments about Romijn, who he was married to from 1998 to 2005. Stamos wrote about “betrayal” among other topics and suggested that Romijn “sometimes subtly and sometimes openly” suggested he wasn’t intelligent enough for her. For her part, Romijn said she was “blindsided” by the remarks.

Around that time, Jerry O’Connell said he wouldn’t clap back at the sentiments shared by his wife’s ex-husband. O’Connell’s logic was that by responding, he would simply “bring attention to a situation I don’t want to feed into.” Now, however, it seems he and John Stamos let bygones be bygones, at least for the sake of Howie Mandel’s party. In the comments, Mandel himself joked about bringing people together, while fans joined in with some funny responses of their own:

Suddenly, I feel the need to ask Siri to play “Why Can’t We Be Friends?” by War. In all seriousness, though, this is a sweet turn of events, and I wish I could’ve been a fly on the wall. Honestly, I can’t even begin to imagine what those two men had to say to each other following that bit of drama. Regardless of what was said, though, the selfie above is a nice bit of proof of the O’Connell/Stamos run-in.

Of course, relationship-wise, everyone seems to have moved on accordingly. Jerry O'Connell and Rebecca Romijn have been married since 2007 and they have twin daughters. The two are also very supportive of each other, with O’Connell even praising his wife’s reprisal of Mystique in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday. Meanwhile, John Stamos and Caitlin McHugh (who married in 2018) also seem to have a tender romance, and they share a son.

I can’t say with complete certainty whether the Mandel party photo officially marks the end of the O’Connell/Stamos tiff. However, like those who commented on O’Connell’s post, I’ll simply relish the fact that he and Stamos spent some time together.

Rebecca Romijn and Jerry O'Connell are one of my favorite Hollywood couples, period, so it's extra special that they're both in the Star Trek family. While O'Connell's time in the franchise is on pause following the cancellation of Lower Decks, he has held on to one key fact about his character, Jack Ransom, that he has no problem holding over his wife's head in a cute way.

Romijn spoke to ScreenRant about playing Una on Season 3 of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, which is currently available to stream with a Paramount+ subscription. Those who watched the series finale of Lower Decks may know that O'Connell's Ransom was promoted to Captain, making him outrank Una in the Trek universe. When asked about it, the actress confirmed she is very keenly aware of that fact already, saying:

I'm not at all surprised to hear that, but it should be known that Jerry O'Connell is as big a fan of his wife as anyone on this planet. He's always in the comments on social media these days, talking about her return to the world of X-Men as Mystique, and is potentially scouring the web for more merchandise of the character as we speak.

All this to say, it's not like this comment should be read as anything more than a little light-hearted ribbing between husband and wife. What makes me most happy about the comment is that it once again opens the door to discuss the possibility of Number One and Captain Jack Ransom crossing paths in live-action, which didn't occur when Star Trek: Strange New Worlds and Lower Decks had their crossover special. Jerry O'Connell was able to provide some voice acting to the project, which even referenced his wife, but he didn't appear in live-action.

Star Trek has proven it isn't impossible for Lower Decks and SNW to cross paths despite existing in different timelines, but whether we'll get another chance to see Jerry O'Connell and Rebecca Romijn's characters meet. The countdown is officially on for the end of Strange New Worlds, which will end with an abbreviated Season 6. Showrunner Akiva Goldsman said the episode count for the final season was given to allow the series to get right up to TOS, and I don't imagine another crossover special factors into that number.

Even if their characters never cross paths again, at least they'll have this fun banter about rank to look back on when SNW ends.

So long as there’s always an upcoming Marvel movie on the books, then you can count on some wild rumors emerging, from announcement through to production. A picture like 2026's Avengers: Doomsday alone put that particular mill on overtime, and the latest is a wild piece of speculation on Rebecca Romijin’s return as her X-Men character Mystique. Well, leave it to Romijin’s husband, Jerry O’Connell, to flip the situation into a lovably goofy moment of levity.

Jerry O’Connell Deflected A Rather Interesting Mystique Claim With Humor

The claim of the moment has speculated that this blue tinted member of Doomsday’s extensive cast “won’t be naked in Avengers: Doomsday." Sharing that message with his followers, O’Connell’s Twitter reply came down to one, simple word:

Now that is a supportive and loving husband. It’s also a pretty on-brand response, seeing as Jerry O’Connell’s congratulations post also clowned around about Rebecca Ronijin being introduced to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

But beyond the obvious gag involving “nudity,” my own read on this rumor leaves me scratching my head - as recent approaches to the character of Raven Darkholme have already seemed to render this piece of discussion obsolete.

This Mystique Nudity Rumor Is Weird On Two Fronts

If we’re going by the original timeline of X-Men movies, then X-Men: The Last Stand would be the biggest hint that would have pointed out the need for clothing. As Raven Darkholme lost her powers through the mutant cure in that infamous threequel, we already knew she could no longer shift her appearance. So nudity would have been a non-starter in that respect.

However, even from a cinematic standpoint, we’ve seen Mystique walking around in clothes before. In fact, Jennifer Lawrence’s rendition of the character had her own X-Men uniform to show off. Considering the No Hard Feelings actor’s stories about the intensive Mystique makeup process, that was certainly a no brainer.

But even if Rebecca Romijin is still comfortable with getting made up, and if her Raven somehow still has her powers, then using a uniform of some sort would still help keep that time in the chair at a minimum. That aspect somewhat helps when you’ve got a cast as big as the one we’ll be seeing in Avengers: Doomsday, which is currently in production.

If the clothed Mystique rumors are accurate, Jerry O’Connell’s famed “Mystique Shelf” of memorabilia is about to find at least one new variant added to the collection. Sometimes silver linings are what it's all about, my friends. Doomsday is upon us, as the next Avengers movie will be hitting theaters on May 1, 2026. In the meantime you can see "The New Avengerz" in Thunderbolts*, which is in theaters now - and may have a different title, depending on where you catch it.

We're still living in the Golden Age of Superhero movies in Hollywood (some might argue it's sputtering to an end). That doesn't mean there haven't been superhero movies and TV shows in the past, though. In the '80s, there was actually way more than you might remember. We all love Christopher Reeve as Superman and Michael Keaton as Batman, but the list is so much longer than that.

Helen Slater (Supergirl)

After Superman starring Christopher Reeve became a massive hit, the studio started lining up sequels and spinoffs. Supergirl, starring Helen Slater as the titular hero, was one of those. While it exists in the same universe and uses much of the same music, or version of it, it's, frankly, not as good as the first two movies in the franchise. There is one crossover moment, Marc McClure starring as Jimmy Olsen, that's a lot of fun, though. That's not to say it doesn't have its moments, but sadly, it pretty much bombed at the box office.

Michael Keaton (Batman)

Towards the top of any list of iconic superhero portrayals has to be Michael Keaton as Batman in Tim Burton's Batman. People may have winced when Keaton was cast, but he proved all the doubters wrong when he led the character into a new era. Gone was the campiness that marked the 1960s' Batman TV show, and in was a new, darker, grittier version of the Caped Crusader.

William Katt (Ralph Hinkley/Ralph Hanley)

The TV show The Greatest American Hero starring William Katt as the titular hero is mostly remembered today for its banger of a theme song. The show, while fun for a certain demographic of pre-teen boys, somehow managed to last three seasons on ABC before it was canceled with five episodes yet to air in early 1983. Still, the song endures.

Sam J. Jones (Flash Gordon)

Flash Gordon was a different kind of superhero. He didn't have any special powers aside from being a great quarterback, but he was certainly a hero. Sam J. Jones played the titular character in Flash Gordon in 1980 in a wild movie that updated the character, who dates all the way back to the 1930s. Of course, it also has that amazing, unconventional soundtrack by Queen, which has helped it stay relevant for decades.

Gil Gerard (Buck Rogers)

In the late '70s and early '80s, old Depression-era comic strip characters were en vogue, and one of the most popular both in the 1930s and in the '80s was Buck Rogers. The sci-fi show Buck Rogers in the 25th Century was briefly a minor hit for two short seasons on NBC, which was based on a 1977 movie, and is fondly remembered by many Gen X guys, despite its abbreviated run.

Peter Weller (Buckaroo Bonzai)

The 1980s were full of cool, unconventional superheroes, and no hero personified that better than Buckaroo Banzai in 1984's The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension. Buckaroo, played by Peter Weller, was a scientist, adventurer, musician, and more. He and his team do everything they can to stop an alien invasion, and the cast of the movie is totally stacked. Some people may hate the cult classic, but if you grew up with it, you likely love it.

Joe Morton (The Brother)

In The Brother from Another Planet, Joe Morton plays "The Brother," who, like Superman, is an alien with all kinds of powers. The movie, directed by John Sayles, was actually a surprise hit when it was released in 1984 and has since become a cult classic. It was also fairly progressive at the time and wasn't afraid to address race and other social issues head-on.

Casey Kasem (Robin)

Between 1973 and 1985, there were multiple versions of the cartoon Super Friends, but one constant throughout them was legendary DJ Casey Kasem voicing Batman's iconic sidekick, Robin.

Lou Ferrigno (The Incredible Hulk)

Perhaps the most successful superhero show of the era was The Incredible Hulk, starring Lou Ferrigno as The Hulk (and Bill Bixby as his alter ego, David Banner). The show ran for five seasons on CBS, and not only did it make it 80 episodes, but it also produced five made-for-TV movies.

Tanya Roberts (Sheena: Queen of the Jungle)

The first adaptation of the Golden Age comic Sheena, Queen of the Jungle, was a TV show in the 1950s starring Irish McCalla as the titular hero. In 1984, Columbia Pictures revived the hero for Sheena: Queen of the Jungle, starring Tanya Roberts as the female version of Tarzan, an orphan who grew up in the jungle. If we're honest, the movie is pretty cheesy, and the box office reflects that, as it pretty much completely bombed when it was released in 1984. It's a movie that just doesn't know what it is. Comedy? Maybe. Action flick? Sometimes. Melodrama? Sadly, yes.

Jerry O'Connell (Andrew Clements)

The Canadian production My Secret Identity was a good, low-cost option for U.S. syndication, and the show ran for 72 episodes over three seasons as such. The most notable thing about it is that it starred Jerry O'Connell as Andrew Clements, the teenage superhero lead in the show.

Christopher Reeve (Superman)

Of course, we're going to include Christopher Reeve on this list! The first Superman movie, directed by Richard Donner, was released in 1978, but Reeve continued to play the character well into the 1980s with the three sequels. starting in 1980 with Superman II. It could be argued, in fact, that the first sequel is better than the original, but you can't go wrong with either. You can't say the same thing about the final two in the series, which are pretty mediocre at best.

Dick Durock (The Swamp Thing)

Swamp Thing has been a popular comic book anti-hero since the early 1970s. In 1982 Wes Craven brought the character to the big screen, with actor Dick Durock playing the character in The Swamp Thing. Durock returned to the character in 1989 with The Return of Swamp Thing.

Dolph Lundgren (The Punisher)

The history of The Punisher on the big and small screen has been hit or miss, though mostly miss. The very popular Marvel anti-hero first hit the silver screen in 1989, starring Dolph Lundgren, in The Punisher. No one loves that version. In fact, no one loves any of the versions that have appeared in movies, and Jon Bernthal's version in the Netflix-era Marvel shows has proved more enduring.

Ed Gale/Chip Zien (Howard The Duck)

Two actors played the lead character in Howard the Duck, the 1986 box office bomb about the Marvel character. Ed Gale was in the suit, while Chip Zien did the character's voice. He's not really a superhero, per se, but he is a giant duck who can speak and think like a human (or an alien, really), and that has to count for something. More recently, Seth Green has voiced the character in the MCU.

Robin Williams (Popeye)

Some of you might disagree that Popeye is a superhero, but come on, the guy eats spinach and gets super-strength when he does? Sounds like a superhero to us! While 1980's Popeye starring Robin Williams as the sailor man and Shelley Duvall as Olive Oyl was lambasted at the time, it has since found its place as a somewhat beloved cult classic.

Chuck Wagner (Automan)

What if you took the ideas of Tron and flipped them around so that the humanoid computer programs could exist in the real world... and fight crime! That's pretty much the premise of Automan, starring Chuck Wagner as the program-come-to-life. Yeah, it's pretty much as bad as it sounds, and it only lasted 12 episodes on ABC in the mid-1980s.

Mitch Cohen (The Toxic Avenger)

Though it's a classic "B-movie" from the 1980s, The Toxic Avenger has an enduring legacy. The first movie starred Mitch Cohen as The Toxic Avenger. The character has been part of four sequels in the years since, with a different actor playing the character each time, including, most recently, Peter Dinklage.

Michael Crawford (Condorman)

Disney is responsible for some of the biggest superhero movies of all time, with the giant success of the MCU movies in the last couple of decades. Those were the first time the company tried its hand at the genre, though. In 1981, they produced Condorman starring Michael Crawford as the titular hero. If you've forgotten the movie existed, you're not alone.

Micheal J. Fox (Teen Wolf)

Okay, okay, we admit that we're pushing the envelope here, but in our opinion, Teen Wolf definitely belongs on this list. The classic '80s comedy stars Michael J. Fox as a meek teenager who transforms into a powerful wolf with some serious basketball skills. We dare you to tell us he's not a superhero!

Peter Weller (RoboCop)

RoboCop is a classic anti-hero from the 1980s. The first appearance of the character came in the wild 1987 movie directed by Paul Verhoeven, named after the character. That movie, starring Peter Weller, was followed by two direct sequels in the 1990s and a 2014 reboot starring Joel Kinnaman as the cop-turned-android.

John Ritter (Steve Nichols)

1980's Hero At Large starring the late, great John Ritter as Steve Nichols, an out-of-work actor who turns himself into a hapless superhero after a casting call, is actually better than it's remembered for.

Courteney Cox (Gloria Dinallo)

One of Courteney Cox's earliest roles was a superhero in the short-lived TV show Misfits of Science. The show only lasted 16 episodes on NBC in the 1985-'86 television season. Though the show, about a group of teenagers with superpowers, bombed, it sure didn't slow down Cox in her career.

Alan Arkin (Captain Invincible)

1983's The Return of Captain Invincible is a wild movie. It stars Alan Arkin as Captain Invincible, a washed-up superhero who had been forced into retirement, but is forced to suit up when his arch-nemesis returns 30 years after disappearing.

Simon MacCorkindale (Manimal)

One of the many crazy TV shows created by Glen A. Larson in the 1980s was Manimal. The show, which starred Simon MacCorkindale as the titular shape-shifting hero, lasted just eight episodes in 1983. It's a good thing Larson also created Magnum, P.I. and Knight Rider.

Bruce Boxleitner (Tron)

1982's Tron quickly became a cult classic after decent results at the box office in 1982. Bruce Boxleitner starred as Tron, and while he's not a traditional superhero, he was as close as it came in the early '80s when superhero movies weren't really being made. Or, at least, good ones, so we had to include this on the list.

John Newton (Superboy)

Amid all the adaptations of Superman over the years, one that tends to get lost in the shuffle is the '80s show Superboy starring John Newton as the young hero. In Season Two, Newton was replaced by Gerard Christopher. The lasted two more seasons before it was pretty much relegated to the dustbin of TV history, but it really wasn't a bad show for its time.

Mia Farrow (Alura)

Even the great Mia Farrow has starred as a superhero. Sort of. Farrow played Alura, the mother of Supergirl, in 1984's Supergirl. While we don't see her in her traditional costume from the comics, it's impossible to leave such a legend off the list.

Jeff Lester (Captain Justice)

Arguably, the worst example of a TV superhero show on the list (and that's saying something) has to be Once A Hero starring Jeff Lester as Captain Justice. The show aired just three episodes on ABC before being canceled in 1987.

Lewis Van Bergen (Jon Sable)

Like a couple of other examples on this list, Jon Sable is pushing the definition of a superhero, but since he started out as a comic character and at times shows superhuman abilities, we're including him here. Lewis Van Bergen played the character on the ABC show simply titled Sable.

Dolph Lundgren (He-Man)

Toys being turned into multimedia franchises were all the rage in the 1980s, and one of the biggest hits across media was He-Man. In 1987, the cartoon was adapted into a live-action film starring Dolph Lundgren as the Prince of Eternia. The movie, Masters of the Universe: The Motion Picture, wasn't well received and failed to find an audience that matched the popularity of the cartoon or the toys. Maybe there is a future for the franchise, but only time will tell.

Sam J. Jones (The Spirit)

Sam J. Jones is best remembered for starring in Flash Gordon, but that wasn't the only hero he played in the 1980s. In 1987, Jones starred in The Spirit, a made-for-TV movie based on a World War II-era comic of the same name. It's campy and fun, but it's easy to understand why it's not well remembered.

It's been all eyes on Marvel Studios lately as the cast video for Avengers: Doomsday revealed quite a few unexpected faces making a return. One treat was the reveal that many of the actors of the original X-Men movies will be appearing, and that includes Rebecca Romijn going back in the saddle as Mystique. Fans were thrilled to see her return, but few were as proud as her husband Jerry O'Connell, who had an A+ tribute to share.

I was already stoked to see Romijn return as Una in the upcoming Star Trek season of Strange New Worlds, and now we'll be seeing her play one of the most interesting X-Men characters yet again. As mentioned, her hubbie was leading the charge in congratulating her, and he shared some great cosplay of his own take on the hero:

I have so many questions, but really the only one I need answered is why does Jerry O'Connell have a Mystique costume? Fortunately, this isn't the first time that we've seen this photo and have a little context. Rebecca Romijn shared this back when she and O'Connell went to Comicpalooza together in Houston. I'm sure O'Connell had some free time seeing as his time in Star Trek: Lower Decks was wrapped up by then, so why not have a little fun?

O'Connell is psyched his wife is in an upcoming Marvel movie for more reasons than one. I don't think it's any secret that Marvel pays well, and while Rebecca Romijn's role likely isn't raking in the same salary that Robert Downey Jr. allegedly is, they'll be able to get a little home improvement done as he joked on Instagram Stories when thanking an account for namechecking his wife:

Now I'm just imagining Jerry O'Connell on the phone with contractors, looking at deluxe driveway paving packages. It's funny the things we think celebrities are spending their money on, when in reality they're just wanting to pay for the same very basic things that we are. That said, not all of us can say that spending hours in a makeup chair can fund repairs to a driveway.

There's a lot of interest in what's going on with Avengers: Doomsday beyond the actors who were announced. It was hard not to notice that Tom Holland wasn't included in the cast announcement, leaving questions about what this may mean for Spider-Man. There's also much interest in seeing how the Fantastic Four is involved given we haven't even seen their upcoming movie, The Fantastic Four: First Steps, yet. And, of course, I want to see what role these original X-Men actors play and if they still have what it takes to save the world decades later.

Avengers: Doomsday arrives on May 1, 2026, and I'm so stoked for its release. We'll get to see if Robert Downey Jr. is as good at playing a villain in the MCU as he is at playing a hero, and I have a feeling the answer is yes.

One of the lesser-referenced universal certainties outside of life, death and taxes is the guarantee of at least one new Stephen King adaptation being lined up for an upcoming movie schedule or TV time slot. And, more often than not, one or more of those live-action projects is a remake of a previous effort. But, one of the best King-adapted movies deserves a special law prohibiting any such ill-conceived reboot attempts: Stand by Me.

Unfortunately, Rob Reiner’s beloved 1986 coming-of-age tale will soon no longer be available to stream with a Netflix subscription, as Stand by Me is among the dozens of movies and TV shows set to vacate the platform in February.

When Is Stand By Me Leaving Netflix?

Barring any unforeseen changes happening behind the scenes, Stand by Me will be available to stream until the final day of the month, February 28, at which point viewers will have to either fall back on re-reading the adapted novella, "The Body," or will have to go out and get sucked on by filthy pond leeches while attempting to find a dead body of their own.

Or, if that sounds too extreme, the movie will still be available to rent or purchase on Amazon and Apple TV. It may, also, indeed land on another subscription service's lineup in the near future. Check out some of the other films leaving Netflix that same day, in case it wasn't already clear why Stand by Me is the one most deserving of a rewatch:

• Aloha
• The Angry Birds Movie
• Green Lantern
• Oblivion
• Without a Paddle

Okay, so I guess there are other movies also leaving that day that are also worth rewatching, like Inception, Sixteen Candle and James Gunn's Scooby-Doo movies. I also hope none of those are ever remade.

Let's Agree That Stand By Me Should Never Get A Modern Hollywood Remake

As it stands, pun not intended, Reiner's adaptation (from a screenplay credited to Bruce A. Evans and Raynold Gideon) so perfectly capsulizes both the era in which it was produced (the tech-lite 1980s) and the time it's depicting (1959). We're now more than 50 years beyond the setting, and at a point when mid-budget coming-of-age dramas are rarer than pie-eating contests being thwarted by vomiting.

So, for any studio to choose to remake Stand by Me, it would be with the knowledge that the new version would need something extra brought to it, not only to stand apart from the spotless original, but simply to convince audiences to spend money on a non-blockbuster. Plus, this isn't a narrative that needs any additional bells and whistles beyond the ones on the train that almost kills the four boys at the heart of it all.

Speaking of, Stand by Me's core cast is equally irreplaceable as a full unit. While Stranger Things and even the pair of IT features showcase young casts that gel naturally, it's more of a rarity than a norm. But Wil Wheaton, Jerry O'Connell, Corey Feldman and River Phoenix could have been real-life best friends from birth, such was their ample on-screen chemistry, and few actors are as intimidating in their quietness as Kiefer Sutherland is as the bullying antagonist, "Ace" Merrill.

Rob Reiner has called Stand by Me his favorite of the films he's directed, and he not only brought just the right amount of childish glee and pre-pubescent dread to the story, but also made the most of the novella as a blueprint. The film's best scenes were taken from the words King wrote, even with some tweaks involved, so it's not like there would be a ton for another writer and director to pull from that would make it wildly different from the O.G. version.

Long story short — which probably isn't ever a rule of thumb for Stephen King — go watch Stand by Me on Netflix while you still can!

While The Big Bang Theory prequel Young Sheldon was one of many shows that ended in 2024, the show lives on with spinoff Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, which debuted amid the 2024 TV schedule. With the two shows being prequels, fans get a different look at the Cooper family and an extensive dive into the Big Bang Universe. While it’s unknown if there will be another prequel spinoff in the future one former actor from the original series is giving his take on the spinoffs.

Georgie & Mandy centers on Sheldon Cooper’s titular older brother, played by Montana Jordan and Emily Osment’s Mandy. The spinoff’s title foreshadowsGeorgie’s many marriages, as fans already know from his brief appearance on The Big Bang Theory. Jerry O’Connell portrayed Georgie on TBBT and, with there now being a series dedicated to the character that he originated that takes place in the past, The Talk co-host shared some positive thoughts while discussing the spinoffs with Bleeding Cool. He also weighed in on whether he'd play Georgie again:

Jerry O’Connell appeared in three episodes of The Big Bang Theory closer to the end of its 12-season run. Despite a Georgie spinoff being set in the past, it's great to know that O’Connell is down to reprise his role in some form. Unlike Young Sheldon, Georgie & Mandy is not only a multi-camera comedy, and there’s no narrator. Still, there's the possibility that there could be some type of flashforward, giving O’Connell the chance to appear as Georgie once again.

Ahead of Young Sheldon’s finale earlier this year, it was announced that CBS was developing a new spinoff with Georgie and Mandy. It was hard to predict how it would turn out, but it's proven to be entertaining thus far. The series centers on the titular couple and their baby, Cece, living with Mandy’s parents and navigating this new life of theirs. There have already been a few other Young Sheldon cast members guest starring, but Iain Armitage has not been brought back as Sheldon just yet.

Meanwhile, The Big Bang Theory franchise is still expanding. Co-creator Chuck Lorre is developing a new series set in the fictional universe, which seemingly be set in the present. Back in October, the Big Bang offshoot took a major step in the right direction. Three former actors of the CBS sitcom are under talent holding deals, and while Brian Posehn, Lauren Lapkus, and Kevin Sussman have not been confirmed to star in the show, which will be available to Max subscription holders. It's early days for that show, but who knows? Maybe Jerry O'Connell could pop up there!

Star Trek: Lower Decks is ending, and while there are upcoming Trek shows just around the corner on the 2025 TV schedule, many still want the animated comedy around. Amidst calls for a network or streamer to save the show, Jerry O'Connell just gave a cryptic response in an interview that has me wondering what his future in the franchise will be when the show is done.

O'Connell, who voices Commander Jack Ransom in the series, spoke to Bleeding Cool after the bridge crew got their own episode. Surprisingly enough, however, it's the comments he made about the Strange New Worlds crossover Lower Decks was a part of that have me wondering if he has a future in Star Trek beyond this series.

Jerry O'Connell Was Asked About The Strange New Worlds Crossover, And Gave An Interesting Response

Rebecca Romijn is part of the Star Trek: Strange New Worlds cast, and despite some people hoping it would happen, she did not get to share a scene with her real-life husband Jerry O'Connell in the crossover episode "Those Old Scientists". O'Connell, who has honored Romijn with references to her Mystique character in X-Men, talked about the small bit he did get to do, and added a comment that had me scratching my head. He said,

I'm confused on what that second part means. Was there a plan for Jerry O'Connell to show up as Jack Ransom in live-action, and someone higher up nixed it? If so, why was it important that he not have a scene in live-action?

Is Jerry O'Connell Hinting There's Another Plan For Him In Star Trek?

It makes me wonder if Jerry O'Connell was planning to have a guest spot elsewhere in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds – perhaps in the upcoming Seasons 3 and/or 4. He wouldn't be the first actor to play multiple roles in the franchise, but I could see why there'd be some hesitation in having him appear in the crossover if there was a plan to feature him later in a different capacity.

I could be overreacting, of course, and Jerry O'Connell was just saying he doesn't know why it didn't work out; he just does as he's told. He does feel like the everyman for Paramount-affiliated networks and even filled in for Julie Chan Moonves on Big Brother earlier this year. Between that, appearing in The Big Bang Theory as the adult Georgie and his hosting gigs on other various shows, he's a busy guy. Maybe someone at Paramount felt we didn't need to see him live-action because of all his other duties elsewhere. Still, I prefer to think there may be a chance there's something else in store for him and Star Trek... I just don't know what.

Before Jennifer Lawrence donned the blue skin for the X-Men prequels, Rebecca Romijn was the OG shapeshifter in the live-action X-Men films. Not only could her looks sting wearing those yellow contacts, but her action scenes were kick-ass delivering those swift kicks. Romijn’s husband, Jerry O’Connell, is apparently a big fan of his wife’s mutant character that he has a “Mystique shelf” of embarrassing merch to prove it.

Rebecca Romijn and Stand by Me’s Jerry O’Connell have been married since 2007 and are parents to twin girls. Even though the model-turned-Hollywood star said goodbye to her Marvel past with her uncredited cameo in X-Men: First Class, the married couple still took part in the superhero genre in animation form for The Death of Superman and Reign of the Supermen movies. O’Connell, however, hasn’t moved on from his wife playing one of the best film villain roles. To the point where he told ComicBook he has a “Mystique shelf” of merch he collects to the chagrin of the X-Men alum:

It’s actually hilarious that Jerry O’Connell has a shelf of merchandise of one of his wife’s iconic characters. Imagine seeing a mini version of yourself on the shelf in your own house! If the Star Trek: Lower Decks voice actor played with the action figures of his wife’s mutant character, that would be even more cringe. I recommend The Punisher actress just stash those figurines in a drawer when company’s over.

It shouldn’t come as a surprise what a Mystique supporter Jerry O'Connell truly is as he dressed up as the shapeshifter at this year’s Comicpalooza. Rebecca Romijn joked that it’ll be the last time she invites her husband to a convention. It’s okay, though, as we all know that the Ugly Betty actress wore the iconic blue costume best.

Even though the California native previously admitted to having a bad experience with The Last Stand’s filmmaker Brett Ratner, Rebecca Romijn had a seemingly positive experience playing Mystique. The talented actress even confessed to enjoying the makeup process despite it taking seven to nine hours. Just like her character was proud of being blue-skinned, Romijn felt empowered with her character’s exotic look knowing it was an important part of her character. Now, this makes me wish we could see the former model revisit the role in the future.

Jerry O’Connell is clearly proud of being married to the woman who originated the live-action role of Mystique to the point where he has his own shelf of Mystique merch. Even if Rebecca Romijn is a tad embarrassed about her husband collecting little figurines of herself, it’s still a real compliment to the support she has from him. Years before shared universes like the MCU and DCU were created, the superhero genre was a huge risk, and hit theaters with Bryan Singer's X-Men movies. Fans are looking forward to upcoming X-Men movies, although the original cast will always have a place in moviegoers' hearts. That includes OG Mystique Rebecca Romijn, who went through hours of makeup for the role. Her husband Jerry O'Connell recently dressed up as the shapeshifting mutant, and the photo is delightful.

Upcoming Marvel movies will finally bring the X-Men into the shared universe, and they've got some big shoes to fill after the original franchise (which is streaming with a Disney+ subscription). Romijn posted on Instagram to show her hubby in a blue Mystique bodysuit, and it's an adorable situation. Check it out below:

Of course, Rebecca Romijn posting about Mystique has fans wondering if she might reprise her signature role sometime in a future superhero movie. Specifically, moviegoers in the comments section are asking if she might be part of the Deadpool & Wolverine cast list. 

What we know about Deadpool 3 is limited, resulting in countless rumors and theorize circulating online. The trailer for Deadpool & Wolverine confirmed a number of returning actors from the X-Men franchise, and fans assume that even bigger cameos will be coming. And it definitely seems possible that Rebecca Romijn might be back in blue for Mystique, many years after her last appearance in X-Men: The Last Stand. 

Of course, Rebecca Romijn isn't the only actress who has played Mystique in live-action. While her post offered a competition between her and Jerry O'Connell, the real comparisons happening between fans is between Romijn and Jennifer Lawrence. The latter actress played a younger version of Mystique in a whopping four movies, eventually being killed off early in Dark Phoenix.

It should be fascinating to see what comes next for Mystique as a character, and if/when she'll factor into the MCU. Fans have been not-so-patiently waiting for mutants to join the shared universe, which was teased in The Marvels' credits scene. Only time will tell if we get another Mystique actor, or if Rebecca Romijn gets the chance to return.

In his memoir If You Would Have Told Me that was released in 2023, John Stamos discusses a number of topics, including — of course — his role as Uncle Jesse on Full House, his concern early on about the sitcom’s future and other aspects of his career. He also delves into some intensely personal stories, revealing that he was sexually abused by a babysitter as a child and discussing his 2005 divorce from Rebecca Romijn. The X-Men actress initially remained mum on her ex-husband’s book but now admits that the accusations surprised her.

Nearly three months after If You Would Have Told Me: A Memoir was released, Rebecca Romijn broke her silence on John Stamos’ allegations of infidelity during their marriage. However, she wasn’t willing to go into detail when speaking to ET at the Critics’ Choice Awards, as she said: 

Rebecca Romijn and John Stamos met in 1994, and they tied the knot four years later. The couple split in 2004, with the divorce being finalized the following year. Romijn is now married to actor Jerry O’Connell, who refused to clap back at Stamos, sharing a similar response to his wife’s in regards to the memoir. He pointed out that any reaction he had would bring more attention to a situation that he didn’t want to feed into.

John Stamos wrote about “betrayal” in If You Would Have Told Me, saying (via Page Six) that it starts “as a sinking feeling in your stomach, grows into a suspicion that clouds your every thought, and by the time you find out the truth, it’s uniquely horrible at first but also expected, like you’ve been waiting for something bad to happen.” He also said that Rebecca Romijn implied “sometimes subtly and sometimes openly” that he was not smart enough for her.

While the Star Trek: Strange New Worlds actress didn’t respond immediately to the accusations, Jerry O’Connell did acknowledge in an interview with Andy Cohen in November that they were aware of what was being said. The Stand By Me star told Cohen: 

It seems that Rebecca Romijn was at least curious to know what John Stamos would have to say about her, particularly — as Jerry O’Connell pointed out in that interview — because their twin daughters are 14 years old and it was “awkward” to have them ask why her ex was calling her “the devil.”

Even now that Rebecca Romijn has shared her reaction to what was said about her in If You Would Have Told Me, it doesn’t sound like any confirmation or denial about John Stamos’ accusations is forthcoming. You can see the actress in action in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, whose first two seasons are available to stream with a Paramount+ subscription. 

Every few years a celebrity memoir comes out, and the internet explodes– especially when it’s a tell-all. We can see this nowadays with both Britney Spears and John Stamos, who released books about their lives and careers. The Full House actor’s included details about his time on the show, as well as his former marriage. And Jerry O’Connell recently explained why he won’t clap back after Stamos’ book painted Rebecca Romijn in a bad light.

John Stamos and Rebecca Romijn were a hot celebrity couple back in the day, and were married for a number of years before splitting in 2005. The Scream Queens actor doesn’t hold much about their time together in his book If You Would Have Told Me: A Memoir, making headlines for calling her a “devil.” O’Connell addressed this briefly in a video posted by The Talk, offering:

There you have it. While Jerry O’Connell obviously had his own feelings as Rebecca Romijn’s husband, he’s keeping those thoughts to himself. Mostly because anything that he says is going to only make the story bigger and more viral. Clearly he knows the Hollywood game well after his many years in the business.

O’Connell’s comments on his show The Talk came as he and his co-host discussed how Adam Driver threw an F-bomb at a critic for his new movie Ferrari. The Stand by Me actor maintains that the better move is to not respond in such a way, especially when you’re an A–list movie star like Driver. Case in point: his lack of public pettiness in relation to John Stamos’ tell-all memoir.

While he addressed his marriage to Rebecca Romijn, Stamos also revealed how he met his wife on the set of Law and Order. He’s also candid in the memoir about initial nerves about Full House, and Stamos even shared he was sexually abused  by a babysitter as a kid.

In a heartwarming display of friendship and nostalgia, Wil Wheaton and Jerry O'Connell, co-stars of the iconic 1986 film Stand By Me, recently proved that their bond extends far beyond the silver screen. As the The Secret of NIMH alum celebrated his 51st birthday, O'Connell took to social media to share a touching tribute and perfect Stephen King reference that will surely leave fans feeling warm and fuzzy inside. Additionally, it even garnered an emotional response from the Star Trek: The Next Generation alum. 

The Instagram post shared by the Scream 2 actor featured an endearing snapshot of him and the birthday boy. It specifically captures a moment where Jerry O'Connell gently planted a kiss on Wil Wheaton's forehead. The accompanying caption was nothing short of heartfelt, as it quoted a line that will immediately resonate with fans of Stand By Me. It reads, "Never had friends like the ones I had when I was twelve. Jesus, does anyone? Happy BDay @itswilwheaton." That first sentence holds particular significance, as it calls back to the poignant closing moments of the 1986 film, which is an adaptation of Stephen King's short story The Body. Wheaton couldn't help but comment on the post with the following sentiments:

They seem to share a close friendship, one that's seemingly been strengthened in recent years. When it comes to wrestlers that the WWE entrusts to go out into the world as ambassadors to their brand, Mike "The Miz" Mizanin often seems to get the green light to appear on other shows. Whether it's Dancing With The Stars or his reality show Miz & Mrs., the wrestler always seems down to step aside from the ring and tackle whatever TV challenge comes his way. And apparently, he may sometimes seize the opportunity to draw a penis on a daytime game show, because you can't tell me that the superstar didn't know exactly what he was doing with his pen while appearing on Jerry O'Connell's Pictionary!

For those who don't know, Pictionary is a daily game show hosted by the hilarious Jerry O'Connell. Apparently, WWE stars The Miz and Xavier Woods both appeared as guests for an upcoming episode, and Miz had a particularly hard time drawing the word "scuba diving." Take a look at The Miz's attempt below via Woods' Twitter account, and try to tell me that he didn't deliberately draw a penis at the start of the round: 

In what world is that anywhere close to scuba diving? Don't get me wrong – The Miz made a pretty damn good case, and when he broke it down, I can kind of see where that would make sense. At the same time, I just can't understand how someone would go about drawing that picture in a way that it wasn't immediately clear what was being drawn until it was too late and a penis was on the big screen behind him.

I think the real gem of this clip is the wide range of emotions Jerry O'Connell went through in the beginning. At first, he was just a casual observer, going through the motions of watching a Pictionary contestant draw as he's done many times before. Then as Miz started to draw the straight lines, O'Connell dropped back into a contemplative pose, as if wondering if the contestant was truly about to do what he suspected. Finally, the picture was complete, and while he didn't vocalize it during the round, O'Connell's quick turn to avoid directly laughing in view of the camera is a dead giveaway that he understood what happened.

The group in attendance certainly didn't play it as cool, and one of the contestants on Miz's team can be heard guessing "sex" after seeing the picture. Xavier Woods also found his co-worker's picture pretty hilarious, so much so that he shared the clip. Miz retweeted Woods' post and said the following about his appearance on Pictionary:

This is exactly the type of clip that makes me, a wrestling fan, check my local listings to see when Pictionary is on in my area. So, whether it was intentionally done as a joke during the episode or done in an effort to promote the series to a bunch of wrestling fans, mission accomplished. I'm 100% down to tune in to see who between The Miz and Xavier Woods will emerge as the undisputed champion, especially since it doesn't seem like either has a shot at beating Roman Reigns at an upcoming WWE event.

The world of daytime TV talk shows has been thrown into upheaval lately, with longtime staples like The Ellen Degeneres Show and Maury coming to an end, as well as newcomers like Nick Cannon, which was canceled after just one season. Meanwhile, Sherri Shepherd prepares to debut her new show, amid The Wendy Williams Show's cancellation. Amid all the shakeup, however, one perennial series just announced some good news.

CBS' The Talk announced on April 18 that it will return for a 13th season. The show’s current hosts — Jerry O'Connell, Amanda Kloots, Akbar Gbajabiamila, Sheryl Underwood and moderator Natalie Morales — are all set to return, Deadline reports. And they celebrated the renewal in a photo posted to Twitter, with each holding up one finger on one hand and three on the other in reference to the upcoming Season 13:

Natalie Morales, who joined the CBS talk show for its current season, surprised viewers — and her co-hosts, too, it seems — when she announced the good news live during Monday’s show. She said:

The hosts all stood up and congratulated each other, as they received a standing ovation from the audience. Jerry O’Connell danced around the stage, swinging his jacket, before joking that “Now I know why all our bosses showed up today.” Check out the moment of merriment:

It may be good news for The Talk, but the CBS daytime hit hasn’t been without its controversies in the past year. The show saw a huge shakeup when Sharon Osbourne — the last of the show’s original hosts — was fired after multiple allegations of racism and homophobic comments. Jerry O’Connell was brought in as her replacement, and he said at the time that he looked forward to enhancing the show by having fun.

Following Sharon Osbourne’s exit last March, Carrie Ann Inaba announced in August that she and CBS had mutually agreed to part ways after three seasons. Just weeks later, Elaine Welteroth announced her exit ahead of Season 12 and was quickly replaced by Akbar Gbajabiamila. Amanda Kloots has now been on the show for two seasons, and Sheryl Underwood, who joined the show in its second year, is now its most tenured host by a longshot.

The Talk's announcement comes amid a number of moves in the realm of daytime talk shows. The Real recently announced it would not continue for a ninth season. The Jennifer Hudson Show is set to make its premiere this fall, while Hudson’s fellow American Idol alum Kelly Clarkson will take over Ellen Degeneres’ time slot when the comedian’s show comes to an end after 19 seasons.

Wendy Williams appears to be working to get back on TV, even as her talk show was canceled after 13 seasons amid ongoing questions regarding her health. After a series of guest hosts filled in for the final season of The Wendy Williams Show, the decision was made to permanently replace Williams with Sherri Shepherd, who is set to debut Sherri this fall.

Despite being in popular shows and movies like The Big Bang Theory, Star Trek: The Next Generation, and Toy Soldiers, actor Wil Wheaton opened up in recent years about the traumatic experiences he had off and on set in Hollywood. But his issues were below the surface as none of his co-stars knew about his pain. The actor kept his problems so secret that his Stand By Me co-stars had no inkling of any trouble. After hearing about Wheaton’s traumatic childhood, Stand By Me’s Jerry O’Connell felt the need to reach out.

The Star Trek: TNG alum has been open in recent years about the alleged emotional abuse he suffered at the hands of his parents. He claimed his actress mother manipulated him into becoming an actor. But it was reportedly the emotional trauma inflicted by his father that informed his performance in the classic coming-of-age drama. He felt a connection with the emotionally distant Gordie Lachance as both lived in the shadow of their brothers and were treated as scapegoats for familial problems.

But his co-stars weren’t aware of his family life as Wheaton and O’Connell shared a touching moment on the latter’s daytime talk show The Talk. The former was on the show to promote his memoir Still Just a Geek: An Annotated Memoir. Hearing his former co-star open up about his familial struggles provoked the Jerry Maguire actor to give a heartfelt response.

It was commendable for the host to offer words of comfort despite not knowing about the actor’s circumstances. Jerry O'Connell was clearly moved by Wheaton’s story. While Wil Wheaton appreciated O’Connell’s kind words, he reminded the talk show host that he was 11 years old when they filmed the cult classic. The TV icon put everything into perspective by admitting he hid the abuse from everyone around him.

While acting came naturally to him, Wil Wheaton seemingly felt his whole acting career was a little traumatic for him. The film and TV actor admitted at one point begging his mother to stop sending him on auditions as a kid. But he doesn’t want fans to pity him or his work as he is grateful and proud of his work as a prolific child actor. So viewers can still love and cherish his past work despite the pain he experienced in his personal life.

Opening more about the alleged child abuse he suffered is just part of his journey explored in his memoir. He spoke on his not-so-pleasant experience with William Shatner and dealing with a Wesley-hating tech writer on the Star Trek TNG set. The 1980s gave birth to some of the most iconic movies of all time and turned dozens of actors into international superstars and box office heavyweights. Names like Michael J. Fox, Holly Hunter, Lou Diamond Phillips, and Whoopi Goldberg are just a handful of great ‘80s actors who made an impact on movies, and pop culture in general, in one way or another. 

But with time, some of use have forgotten what the heroes and villains of those beloved ‘80s movies and TV shows have been up to in the decades since they made their mark on the world. Well, not any longer, as we have put together a rather comprehensive list of those familiar faces and what they’ve been up to all these years. 

Whoopi Goldberg

Throughout the 1980s, Whoopi Goldberg proved time and time again that she was a force to be reckoned with in Hollywood, receiving multiple accolades and awards for movies like The Color Purple and Jumping Jack Flash. Even though she is not in as many high-profile movies as she was in the ‘80s and ‘90s, Goldberg has remained a major player in show business as one of the hosts of the long-running daytime talk show The View, with a major role in the 2021 adaptation of The Stand, and in the Amazon original series Harlem. 

Elisabeth Shue

The Karate Kid, Adventures in Babysitting, and Back to the Future Part II, are just a few iconic ‘80s movies Elisabeth Shue appeared in throughout the early stages of her career. The Academy Award and Golden Globe nominee (1995’s Leaving Las Vegas) is still doing what she does best all these years later, with a collection of movies and TV shows including Greyhound, The Boys, and most recently, Cobra Kai, in which she reprised her beloved character, Ali Mills. 

Judd Nelson

Judd Nelson, the Brat Pack member who made a name for himself with his portrayal of bad boy with a heart of gold John Bender in The Breakfast Club, has remained just as busy in the decades since he became an undeniable heartthrob. More recently, Nelson has provided voice work for animated series like Transformers: Power of the Primes and Ben 10: Omniverse, and appeared in movies like Dead Water and Girl in the Basement. He is set to appear in the upcoming remake of The Most Dangerous Game, per Deadline.

Michael J. Fox

There are few actors who can match the talent, charm, and likability of Michael J. Fox, and with movies like Back to the Future, Teen Wolf, and The Secret of My Success, it’s hard to deny that. Despite being diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 1998, Fox remained busy in film and television throughout the first two decades of the 21st Century with appearances on Curb Your Enthusiasm, Scrubs, and his own sitcom The Michael J. Fox Show. However, Fox stepped away from acting in November 2020 due to ongoing health issues, per The Hollywood Reporter.

Molly Ringwald

Between 1984 and 1986, Molly Ringwald appeared in Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club, and Pretty in Pink, all of which are arguably some of the best ‘80s movies. Ringwald’s success continued through the ’90s, into the 2000s, and even today with roles in romantic comedies like The Kissing Booth franchise, Creepshow, and Riverdale, on which she portrays Mary Andrews. 

Chevy Chase

In the 1980s, Chevy Chase went from Saturday Night Live stand-out to one of the biggest box office draws with Caddy Shack, Fletch, and the National Lampoon’s Vacation franchise, to name only a few. All these years later, Chase remains a major star in the world of comedy with shows like Community and a list of movies that includes The Last Laugh, The Very Excellent Mr. Dundee, and Panda vs. Aliens.

Anthony Michael Hall

Michael Anthony Hall appeared in some of the biggest movies of the 1980s, including National Lampoon’s Vacation, Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club, and Weird Science, those final two coming out just months apart. Hall is just as busy these days with appearances in movies like the 2021 horror flick Halloween Kills and a list of TV shows that includes Riverdale, The Blacklist, and The Goldbergs.

Holly Hunter

Throughout the 1980s, Holly Hunter found success with a variety of roles, including standout performances in Raising Arizona, Broadcast News, and End of the Line, all of which came out in 1987. Over the years, Hunter has continued to bring characters to life in movies like The Big Sick, The Incredibles franchise, and multiple TV shows like The Comey Rule, Mr. Mayor, and Succession, to name only a few. 

Emilio Estevez

Emilio Estevez had only appeared in two of his father’s movies — Badlands and Apocalypse Now — by the time the 1980s kicked off, but he would be a major Hollywood force by the time the decade wrapped up, thanks to roles in The Outsiders, The Breakfast Club, St. Elmo’s Fire, and Young Guns. Estevez has spent much of the past decade-and-a-half writing and directing various film and television projects, but he did return to the small screen in 2021 to reprise his role of Gordon Bombay in the Disney+ series The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers.

Rob Lowe

Rob Lowe became one of the biggest heartthrobs of the 1980s thanks to appearances in The Outsiders, St. Elmo’s Fire, and several other iconic movies. In the years since then, Lowe has found tremendous success on television, including shows like The West Wing, Parks and Recreation, and most recently, 9-1-1: Lone Star, a series he has led since its inception in 2020.

Val Kilmer

In the 1980s, Val Kilmer played an assortment of roles in movies like Top Secret!, Real Genius, Top Gun, and Willow, carving a place out for himself in the annals of Hollywood greats. That success would follow Kilmer throughout the 1990s and early 2000s, but the talented actor would face a major challenge later on when he was diagnosed with throat cancer, a battle that would end with him losing the ability to speak. Despite that, he released the heartfelt and enlightening documentary, Val, in 2021.

Ralph Macchio

Whether he was making us cry in The Outsiders or leaving us on the edges of our seats in The Karate Kid, Ralph Macchio gave it his all in the 1980s, turning out a number of box office hits. Since 2018, Macchio has once again been playing Daniel LaRusso, though instead of on the big screen, Cobra Kai is leg sweeping the competition on Netflix.

Winona Ryder

In the final two years of the 1980s, Winona Ryder made a name for herself with stellar performances in Beetlejuice, Heathers, and Great Balls of Fire!, and she has really not stopped since. Since 2016, Ryder has been one of the biggest stars of the Netflix series Stranger Things, which is slated to return for a fourth season at some point in 2022.

Ally Sheedy

The fifth and final member of The Breakfast Club cast to be featured on this list, Ally Sheedy was a massive star in the 1980s with movies like WarGames, St. Elmo’s Fire, Short Circuit, and several others. Sheedy’s most recent film appearance came in 2016 with a cameo in X-Men: Apocalypse.

Matt Dillon

In the 1980s, Matt Dillon starred in movies like The Outsiders, Rumble Fish, Drugstore Cowboy, and nearly a dozen others, cementing his place as one of the most prolific actors of the decade. Dillon hasn’t really slowed down all that much since then, with his most recent projects including titles like Land of Dreams, Capone, and Wes Anderson's mysterious upcoming movie, Asteroid City.

Jennifer Grey

Jennifer Grey will always be remembered as Frances “Baby” Houseman in Dirty Dancing, a role that capped off an impressive run that also included Red Dawn and Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. More recently, though, Grey has been in movies like Untogether and Bittersweet Symphony as well as several TV shows including Dancing with the Stars (which she won), The Conners, and a three-episode arc on Grey’s Anatomy.

Jennifer Beals

Jennifer Beals became an international sensation upon the release of Flashdance in 1983, and she hasn’t really slowed down since then. Over the course of the past few decades, Beals has made appearances in successful movies and TV shows, including Swamp Thing, The L Word: Generation Q, and the Star Wars upcoming series The Book of Boba Fett for Disney+.

Lea Thompson

All the Right Moves, Red Dawn, Back to the Future, Howard the Duck, and Back to the Future Part II are just some of the movies that featured Lea Thompson in the 1980s, a decade that would kick off one hell of a career. Thompson has remained busy over the years and has even directed her fair share of projects. This list includes everything from The Goldbergs to Stargirl, and Mom to Young Sheldon, with multiple others in-between.

Eric Stoltz

Even though he was recast in Back to the Future, Eric Stoltz had and impressive run in the 1980s with Mask, Some Kind of Wonderful, and Say Anything…, to name only a few. That run of successes continued as the years went by and eventually turned into work for Stoltz behind the scenes, including directing credits on shows like Law and Order, Glee, and Madame Secretary, and movies like Class Rank and Confessions of a Teenage Jesus Jerk.

Lou Diamond Phillips

Lou Diamond Phillips will probably always be remembered for his performances in La Bamba and Stand and Deliver, and rightfully so, but the talented actor has made several other contributions over the years. Recently, Phillips has landed roles on Longmire, Blue Bloods, Fear the Walking Dead, Prodigal Son, and multiple other projects in film and television.

Mary Stuart Masterson

Mary Stuart Masterson, who would go on to lead movies like Fried Green Tomatoes and Benny and Joon in the 1990s, found success in the 1980s in Some Kind of Wonderful, Chances Are, and Immediate Family, to name only a few. Following a 13-year absence from the big screen, Masterson returned in 2017 with As You Were, which she followed up with Skin and Daniel Isn’t Real. More recently, Masterson had a main role on the ABC legal drama, For Life.

Kevin Kline

The 1980s were good to Kevin Kline, who appeared in The Big Chill, Silverado, Cry Freedom, and A Fish Called Wanda (a role that earned him an Academy Award), though the good times never really stopped for the versatile actor. In 2021 alone, Kline appeared in Here Today, The Starling, The Good House, and continued to provide the voice of Mr. Calvin Fischoeder on the hit animated series Bob’s Burgers. Still no word on a Dave sequel, though.

Sean Astin

Sean Astin made his film debut in The Goonies in 1985, and his career has been one of the most consistent in Hollywood ever since. The past 35-plus years have seen him show up in Rudy, the Lord of the Rings trilogy, and countless other successful movies. His television career is just as impressive, with everything from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to Stranger Things, and Supergirl to Brooklyn Nine-Nine. 

Adrienne Barbeau

Adrienne Barbeau kicked off the 1980s with appearances in three of the best John Carpenter movies — The Fog, Escape from New York, and The Thing (she was the voice of the computer and only woman in the cast) — as well as other classics like Creepshow and The Cannonball Run. In recent years, Barbeau has appeared in TV adaptations of Swamp Thing and Creepshow, as well as American Horror Stories and Cowboy Bebop.

Jerry O'Connell

Jerry O’Connell gave an unforgettable performance as Vernon “Vern” Tessio in Rob Reiner’s Stephen King adaptation Stand By Me in 1986, one that people still talk about 35 years after the fact. O’Connell has remained quite busy over the years, with multiple animated films that have seen him voice Superman. On top of that, he has been featured on The Big Bang Theory, Carter, Star Trek: Lower Decks, and even his own daytime talk show, Jerry O’.

Corey Feldman

In the 1980s, Corey Feldman became one of the most dependable young actors, with movies like Gremlins, The Goonies, Stand By Me, The Lost Boys, and The ‘Burbs. Over the years, Feldman has appeared in countless movies, TV shows, and documentaries, with his most recent appearance being in the 2021 slasher 13 Fanboy, in which he plays a version of himself. He has also written a series of albums, including the 2021 release, Love Returns.

Patrick Dempsey

The 1987 release of Can’t Buy Me Love instantly made Patrick Dempsey a household name, and he hasn’t let go of his place in pop culture since. Whether it’s with Grey’s Anatomy or Enchanted (which has a sequel, Disenchanted, on the way), Dempsey has remained a dreamy leading man on the big screen and small screen alike, and it doesn’t look like he’s going anywhere anytime soon.

Steve Guttenberg

Between the Police Academy movies, Cocoon, and Short Circuit, it’s safe to say that Steve Guttenberg had a nice run in the 1980s, and lucky for him (and us), the hits never really stopped coming. In recent years, “The Gut” has balanced between comedy series like The Goldbergs and legal dramas like Roe v. Wade, with all kinds of other work to boot, including a 2020 appearance on Last Week Tonight with John Oliver.

Zach Gilligan

Zach Gilligan’s run in Hollywood started with a little 1984 movie called Gremlins, which he followed up with Nothing Lasts Forever and Waxwork to close out the decade. Since then, Gilligan has appeared in countless film and TV roles, and even appeared as his Gremlins character (alongside Gizmo) in the Mountain Dew Super Bowl commercial.

Michael Winslow

Michael Winslow, also known as The Man of 10,000 Sound Effects, had an insane record in the 1980s, appearing in Spaceballs, Police Academy, Gremlins, and multiple other timeless classics. Winslow has continued to share his talents with the world in the decades since breaking out as one of the most talented beat-boxers around. In 2021, he even appeared on America’s Got Talent.

This may appear to be an exhaustive list of iconic '80s actors, but this is barely scratching the surface. Who knows, maybe we'll make another list of all the stars we forgot, or perhaps touch on those big names of the 1990s.

While viewers tune in for the daily drama of soap operas, daytime talk shows have been a greater source of drama as of late. Sharon Osbourne's exit from The Talk over allegations of racism sent shockwaves through the media. But the daytime talk show moved on from the situation by searching for a replacement, with surprising results. The show decided to add its first male co-host in the form of TV and film actor Jerry O’Connell. Now, O’Connell is finally speaking up about his new hosting gig and how he hopes to "enhance" the show.

As one of the few male hosts in daytime talk right now, Jerry O’Connell will offer a different perspective on The Talk, and he seems pretty excited about joining the lively panel. While speaking to Entertainment Tonight, the newly minted Talk co-host said about joining the daytime show:

Whenever Jerry O’Connell shows up on television, viewers know they are in for a fun time. So O’Connell joining The Talk represents a nice change-up after the multiple departures in recent years, including Osbourne, entertainer Eve and executive producer Sara Gilbert. And of course, there are the questions surrounding co-host Carrie Ann Inaba’s return to the chatfest. Some may question if O'Connell is capable of tackling serious issues and not just fluff, but his talk show history says he is more than ready.

Jerry O’Connell previously served as guest host on The Wendy Williams Show for a few episodes when Wendy Williams was dealing with health issues. That stint led him to front his short-lived talk show, Jerry O. Plus, O’Connell had even guest-hosted on The Talk numerous times before his current position. While the actor’s permanent position was announced this past week, O’Connell won’t officially become a regular co-host until Season 12 starts in September.

Despite being welcomed with open arms by his co-hosts, Jerry O’Connell knows being a new host will be an uphill battle. In the same interview, the actor further admitted that he knows it will take time for viewers to warm up to him. O'Connell said about bringing his male energy to the female-oriented chatfest:

Fans will no doubt be excited to see what Jerry O’Connell brings to The Talk. And so far, many can agree that he certainly has the tools to succeed in his new position.

If you pay even the smallest bit of attention to life, you'll know that, sometimes, romantic relationships can be a challenge. While us regular folks can have a hard enough time maintaining a healthy and happy relationship, though, it seems that it becomes an even more difficult process when things like fame and super busy careers enter the picture. This, of course, can lead to some of our favorite famous couples not lasting for very long, but Rebecca Romijn and Jerry O'Connell seem to have found an important key to longevity in humor, as Romijn just showed her hubby off on his birthday as he powerlifted poodles in a Speedo.

Now, both Rebecca Romijn and her husband of 13 years, Jerry O'Connell, have been known to display a wonderfully light-hearted sense of humor quite frequently, so it should come as no huge surprise that O'Connell would even think to do such a thing as powerlift poodles while wearing what is, perhaps, the tiniest of male swim attire, or that Romijn would then post that activity on Instagram for the entire world to see. Alright. I wasn't expecting to see Jerry O'Connell in quite such a vibrant position today, but now that I have, I'm not mad at it. Thanks, Rebecca!

To be honest, it's pretty hard to deny that Romijn and O'Connell must enjoy making each other laugh. Can you imagine your partner doing something like this, letting you take a photo during and then also being totes cool with you posting it online? I can't help but wonder how many times it took for her to get a clear shot, because I can certainly see her laughing just enough that it would be hard to keep that camera steady.

There are several things to love about this silly shot from the two, who are now both a part of the Star Trek franchise, with Rebecca Romijin working on the upcoming Star Trek: Strange New Worlds and Jerry O'Connell lending his voice to Star Trek: Lower Decks. First of all, check out that look of determination on O'Connell's face. He's quite sure of himself, despite the flip flops and barely there, (possibly) tie-dye print Speedo. But, I'm also enjoying the fact that their dogs don't look nearly as impressed with him as Romijn must be. In fact, they seem kinda bored, which tells me that this has probably happened more than once, and the poodle duo is over it.

What I may love most about the photo, though, is how Rebecca Romijn was sure to include a thoughtful and sweet birthday message for Jerry O'Connell, noting how she thanks him "for doing all the heavy lifting." Awwww! Perfect, right?

Rebecca Romijn may begin filming on Star Trek: Strange New Worlds before too much longer, while Jerry O'Connell is set to return for Star Trek: Lower Decks Season 2, which might debut sometime in 2021.

Sadly, there just aren't as many buddy comedies on TV as there used to be, but WGN America's Carter is thankfully here to continue proving the subgenre's worth. For instance, below is an exclusive clip from Carter's second episode, titled "The Astronaut & The Lion King," which features Jerry O'Connell's actor-turned-sorta-detective and Kristian Bruun's Dave putting on a classic bit of farce involving a locked safe. To be expected, Harley has a little trouble distinguishing real life from his TV past. Check it out!

Jerry O'Connell has plenty of dramatic roles in his past, but I think most of us would agree that he's pretty perfect for just about every comedic role that has come his way. And as this clip proves quite well, O'Connell excels at playing dudes who are a couple of shades dimmer than others around them, with Harley Carter serving as a splendid mix of schoolboy eagerness and stereotypical Hollywood naiveté. I mean, this is a dude who really thought that airborne cinnamon would adhere to a safe's keypad, revealing the numbers used for the code. (You can't believe everything you see on TV...or anything you act in on TV.) Not a lot of actors can pull off a moronic move like that so successfully.

Not that we only have to talk about Jerry O'Connell's thespian skills. In the clip, Harley and Dave are unsuccessfully trying to break into the safe of Pete Conrad, as played by Defiance's Douglas Nyback, who makes a last-second appearance to hold the guys up at gunpoint. Somehow, I don't think Pete is going to surrender with his hands behind his back, so here's hoping Harley has more spice containers around to chunk at Pete's head.

As one of WGN America's newest original series, Carter takes place in North Bay, hometown to TV actor Harley Carter, who returned to his old stomping ground to decompress after having a public meltdown. There, he teams with childhood friends Dave and Sam (with the latter played by Sydney Poitier Heartsong) to try and solve real life cases, relying heavily on the only-sometimes-legitimate tricks he picked up while playing a detective on television. In Episode 2, the trio will get tasked by an emotionally troubled superfan with reopening a unsolved murder that went down at a paint factory that burned down years previous. Dun-dun-dunnn!

Jerry O'Connell is having a great year in TV. Not only did he return to Billions and Drunk History, but he also joined the Big Bang Theory family as Sheldon's older brother George, and could possibly return there when the CBS sitcom comes back. But no need to wait on that to see O'Connell cracking audiences up, since Carter has that all taken care of. (O'Connell also killed it in The 5th Quarter's Frank Cushman short, as well as in Adult Swim's Cool Dad trailer infomercial.)

Amy and Sheldon's wedding on The Big Bang Theory was obviously a big move for the couple, and it will almost definitely throw some complications into the scheme of things when Season 12 arrives. For fans, the wedding was also celebrated for expanding the couple's on-screen family by introducing Amy's parents and the adult iteration of Sheldon's older brother George, as played by Jerry O'Connell. Can we hope to see more brotherly love between Sheldon and George when The Big Bang Theory returns? Here's what O'Connell had to say.

Within the show's history, Sheldon and George haven't exactly been the best of friends, and The Big Bang Theory made it through eleven full years without setting the two men in the same room together. But the existence of the prequel Young Sheldon, which depicts the Cooper family back in the late 1980s, introduced viewers to Montana Jordan's intelligence-lite Georgie Cooper, and the impending rift between the brothers could be witnessed by millions. It was only natural for Sheldon and George to make up one day, and after seeing how goofy and relatively unchanged George was as an adult, many fans would love to see O'Connell return to keep stressing Sheldon out in ways that no other characters can.

And while I might not have expected Jerry O'Connell to embrace the role so naturally, he definitely pulled it off with flying mullets...er...flying colors. As he put it to Digital Spy, he dedicated some time to studying Montana Jordan's performance on Young Sheldon in order to properly wrap his head around the role. And the actor was quite impressed with the rare TV logistics of having to base a current character on a spinoff set in the past.

Plus, Jerry O'Connell had nothing but good things to say about everyone involved with The Big Bang Theory, making it sound like a truly welcome place, and strengthening fans hopes that he'll return one day. In his words (which also compliment that instantly iconic hairdo):

Currently, O'Connell is the lead on the levity-embracing crime drama Carter, which is now set for WGN America, and he'll be heard voicing the role of Clark Kent and his powerful alter ego in the animated DC film The Death of Superman. So it's definitely possible that he'll have more than enough time to film some Big Bang Theory episodes for Season 12, should the creative team find ways to keep him in the story. (We're supposedly going to see more from Kathy Bates and Teller as the Fowlers, too.)

Well, we've finally seen Sheldon and his big brother George interact as adults on The Big Bang Theory, and how they ended their feud was quite surprising. We had already suspected that there would be some hurt feeling on both sides of the Sheldon vs. George divide, but we didn't know just how deep things would get. It turns out that after all the bullying Sheldon felt he had endured from his older brother, George actually wanted Sheldon to thank him for their childhood relationship. Here's what went down.

When the episode opens, Sheldon is on the phone talking to Mary, and she's made it clear to him that she will not attend his and Amy's wedding next week unless he actually extends an invitation to George, which he hasn't done at this point. Sheldon really wants Mary there, so he makes several attempts to call George to no avail, telling Raj and Leonard that his brother is now actively avoiding his calls. When they ask how he knows this for sure, he calls George on speaker and lets them hear his outgoing message, which says that if Sheldon is calling, he should try him at his new number: 1-800-suck-it.

Leonard tells Sheldon that he's made a good effort to invite George now so he shouldn't worry about it, but in the very next scene he and Sheldon are on a plane flying to Texas to see his brother. When they get there, it's obvious that George has done quite well for himself; he owns a chain of tire stores and is known in the area as Dr. Tire. After asking to see him when they go into one of his stores (and the clerk tells them that she'll see if the doctor is in), George comes out and is clearly amused that Sheldon actually came all the way down there to talk in person. George isn't swayed, though, noting that they haven't talked in 10 years, but that as soon as he needs something from him, Sheldon expects George to just drop everything and accommodate him.

Because Sheldon still doesn't have the greatest instincts when it comes to human interaction, he makes the mistake of freely telling George that he didn't want him at his wedding and is only inviting him because Mary won't go if he doesn't do this for her. George tells him he only has to ask nicely, but when Sheldon does, he replies, "I would rather swallow a pregnant wildcat and spit out a litter of kittens." So, yeah, George is determined to make Sheldon work for this one.

After Leonard and Sheldon get back to the hotel, Sheldon talks about how badly George bullied him and recounts the time he threw away Sheldon's Halloween costume when he was 8-years-old, forcing him to go as a ghost and be afraid of himself for the whole night. Leonard says he knows what it's like to be bullied and offers to talk to George alone to see if he can change his mind.

It's during Leonard's conversation with George that we see there's a lot more to him than even Sheldon realizes. It turns out that a lot of what looked like bullying to Sheldon was actually George protecting him. He threw his costume away because Sheldon was planning to go as Marie Curie, and George knew he would get beaten up if he dressed like a woman. George also tells Leonard that he got into fights standing up for Sheldon and frequently had to apologize to people when his little brother was rude to them. He also tells Leonard that he's so successful now because he had to work his ass off since all the family's money went to Sheldon's education, like paying for him to go to school in Germany.

Leonard and George bond over all the ways they've protected Sheldon, and George asks if he's ever thanked Leonard. Of course, he hasn't, and this prompts Leonard to head back to the hotel with George in tow and announce to Sheldon that he needs to apologize to his brother. Sheldon refuses and tells George that he's just upset at what he's making Mary go through over this wedding. George notes that he wouldn't know anything about what Mary has been through, because he was away at college when their dad died, and George was the one who took care of everything at home; Mary was a mess, it turns out, and Missy was a "stupid teenager." Not telling Sheldon how hard things got at home after George Sr. died was yet another way he protected him, and George added that he knew Sheldon didn't have it easy as a kid, but he also never thought about what anyone else was going through.

As you might imagine, this really made Sheldon think. Within seconds, he apologizes for being thoughtless, George thanks him and then agrees to go to the wedding.

Man, that was an emotional roller coaster of an episode! You can see for yourself if George has to offer any brotherly wisdom to Sheldon for his wedding next week when The Big Bang Theory airs at 8 p.m. EST on CBS.

The Big Bang Theory has finally given us a good look at Jerry O'Connell's appearance as Sheldon's older brother George, and it's just as mullet-tastic as you might have expected. As you can see from the above image, George hasn't managed to let go of his childhood hairstyle, and we can probably also expect that he hasn't changed much from the boy we see on Young Sheldon.

Jerry O'Connell will make his first appearance as George on The Big Bang Theory when Sheldon and Leonard head to Texas after Mary tells Sheldon that she won't attend his wedding unless he invites his brother. This prompts him to head down south to try ending the family feud that's probably kept them apart for quite some time.

As you might imagine, this will somehow lead to George showing up to watch his little brother Sheldon get hitched to his longtime love Amy in the season finale. While George has been mentioned several times over the years, though, he's never come to visit (unlike their Meemaw, Mary and their sister Missy). And, even though Meemaw and Missy have only shown up in California once each to visit Shelly, at least we could tell there was not only no animosity between the family members, but real love and affection. Something tells me that that might not quite be the case with George and Sheldon, though.

While neither of Sheldon's siblings were very nice to him during their childhood, George seemed to have a much harder time dealing with and understanding Sheldon. George is widely regarded as not being very bright, but he surely understood that Sheldon was way smarter than him and special in a way that George would never come close to. Sibling rivalry is no joke, and when a younger sibling outpaces an older sibling in any way it can be especially difficult for that older child to deal with it; this might be why George was known to do things like throw golf balls at Sheldon's head and actually make the shot, leaving a permanent dent in his little brother's incredibly intelligent dome.

The first episode of Young Sheldon actually made a point of letting us know that the two have never gotten along, mostly because George was tired of constantly being compared to his younger brother. This sibling jealousy probably also explains why we've never seen Sheldon and George communicate with one another during the course of eleven seasons of The Big Bang Theory. In fact, earlier this season when Sheldon mentioned to Amy that George was a possibility to be best man at their wedding, it's the first time we've heard him make any mention of contacting George.

Much like the events surrounding Penny and Leonard's second wedding, when we got to know a host of their previously unseen family members, watching George and Sheldon interact as adults for the first time is sure to be wild. I fully expect there to be a lot of pointed barbs about George's lack of intelligence and Sheldon's weirdo tendencies, but there will probably also be the revelation of some hurt feelings on both sides, knowing as we do that family gatherings tend to bring out the worst and best in people. I'm guessing they will both have grown just enough to make amends before the big day.

On The Big Bang Theory, the best guest stars are almost always going to be playing the main characters' family members. From Laurie Metcalf's Mary Cooper to Judd Hirsch's Alfred Hofstadter to Keith Carradine's Wyatt, the show excels at casting these important, if temporary, roles. Now, The Big Bang Theory has landed a solid choice to play the adult version of Sheldon's brother George Cooper, Jr., and fans can expect to see Sliders and Jerry Maguire vet Jerry O'Connell potentially denying Sheldon access to pillow forts in the Season 11 finale.

If Sheldon's brother is coming to visit, then you know big things are happening, and George will indeed be on hand to watch his brother walk down the aisle to marry longtime love Amy. Not always affectionately nicknamed Georgie in Young Sheldon (in which Montana Jordan fills the role), the oldest Cooper sibling was often referred to in disparaging ways on The Big Bang Theory over the years, and as we've seen in the spinoff, George can be both jealous and totally put off by Sheldon's brains. Which means his arrival for Sheldon and Amy's wedding likely won't be the most wholly peaceful display of affection between the brothers.

But at least someone will be around to keep everyone in order, as it was also revealed Laurie Metcalf will be returning for the season finale wedding. Is there a world in which Mary Cooper would not be there to witness her son in all his matrimonial glory? One should hope not.

Jerry O'Connell's exciting casting was announced during the PayleyFest panel for The Big Bang Theory and Young Sheldon (via TVLine), and it was the same with Metcalf's return. Unfortunately, those were the only two character appearances revealed, even though Sheldon and Amy's wedding is bound to be a star-studded affair. There was no word on June Squibb coming back as Meemaw (which definitely needs to happen), and nor was there mention of Courtney Henggeler returning as Sheldon's sister Missy.

TV fans have seen Jerry O'Connell all over the place in the past few years. He's popped up on everything from Scream Queens to Mistresses to Billions to Drunk History, to name a few, and he's also got the new Castle-esque drama Carter on the way. We're pretty sure Sheldon would think O'Connell is pretty cool, too, since he's voiced Superman in a trio of animated Justice League flicks, as well as voicing The Atom on Cartoon Network's _Justice League Action. _

In its freshman season, Young Sheldon has already given Big Bang Theory fans a host of insights and reveals into Sheldon's youth, offering explanations for many of the adult quirks he's shown over the years. We'll hopefully get to see the flip side here, with some of Young Sheldon's original moments between Sheldon and George being set up for a payoff on Big Bang. And if not, we'll still have fun watching Jerry O'Connell be the most dapper dan at this weeding.

The Big Bang Theory airs Thursday nights on CBS at 8:00 p.m. The season finale doesn't yet have an airdate, but expect to meet up with Georgie, er, George at some point this May. In the meantime, head to our midseason premiere schedule to see what other new and returning shows are on the way.

Nathan Fillion was on the small screen for eight years as the writer-turned-investigator Richard Castle on Castle. Now, Jerry O'Connell is poised to bring a character back to the small screen that has a few notable similarities to Fillion's Castle character. O'Connell has signed on to star in the new AXN project Carter, which will bring him back to the small screen for what sounds like a very fun show.

Jerry O'Connell will star as Harley Mackay on Carter. Mackay is a detective on a popular American TV show who has a very public and very humiliating meltdown in Hollywood and must return to his small hometown. At home, he draws upon his years as a TV detective to join forces with veteran cop (and longtime friend) Sam St. Clair. Not too many details are available, but I assume plenty of hijinks and shenanigans will ensue. Sydney Tamiia Poitier play Sam St. Clair.

All things considered, Harley Mackay sounds like the product of an unholy union between Nathan Fillion's character on Castle, Nathan Fillion's character on Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and Rob Lowe's character on the short-lived Grinder. Carter won't be the first time that Jerry O'Connell plays an investigator, but it will be the first time he plays an actor who is playing a detective, and it could be pretty hilarious. Who knows? Given that Carter will air on AXN, maybe we could get a crossover with Absentia, which stars Stana Katic of Castle fame. I would watch that.

Carter was ordered straight to series for ten full episodes on AXN. MADtv writer Garry Campbell penned the series after it was developed by John Tinker of Chicago Hope. Scott Smith of The Magicians is slated to direct the pilot. Filming has not yet begun, but THR reports that principal photography is scheduled to kick off in this month in Ontario.

This new series will be Jerry O'Connell's first series-regular role since the sitcom We Are Men back in 2013, which was cancelled by CBS after only two episodes aired. Hopefully Carter will fare better on AXN than We Are Men did on CBS. All things considered, the odds are good that Carter will be a success by AXN standards. Few networks demand as high of ratings as CBS, and O'Connell is a reasonably big name to be attached to a series.

Obviously we can't say if there are further similarities between Carter and Castle. At this point, I'm only hoping that Carter will be able to balance drama with humor as well as the Nathan Fillion show did. After all, it's no coincidence that Castle ran for eight seasons. We'll have to wait and see.

This week marks 30 years since the release of Stand By Me, the ultimate coming-of-age comedy drama that's all provoked by one simple question: "You guys want to see a dead body?" Just as rewarding upon your twelfth as well as first viewing, Stand By Me is right up there with The Shining and The Shawshank Redemption as the greatest Stephen King adaptation ever, something that the writer has admitted himself. Still, what made Stand By Me -- which grossed $52.3 million from just an $8 million budget after receiving rave reviews -- so instantly beloved from its first day of release all the way up to now?

It helps that it's charmingly sentimental, funny, so easy to watch thanks to Rob Reiner's impeccable direction, perfectly cast and is buoyed by Richard Dreyfus' nostalgically sage narration that immediately makes you think back to your own misspent youth and consider how glorious it was, while at the same time making you wish you'd grown up in the 1950s with Chris Chambers as your best friend. However, what truly made it so impactful is that it's packed full of life-altering moments and scenes that are just a little bit familiar as well as gorgeously cinematic. Here are the five greatest moments from Stand By Me that will immediately want to make you re-watch the film all over again.

5. "What He Wanted Was Revenge."

One of the best mini stories told within a film in cinematic history (alongside A Serious Man's Goy's Teeth and Pulp Fiction's Gold Watch), The Revenge Of Lard Ass Hogan is also preposterously disgusting, too. That's because it features its eponymous character vomiting, thanks to the aid of a full bottle of castor oil, a raw egg and umpteen pies, in someone's face. That was his plan all along, though, as he then sits back in glee as his sick provokes the rest of the tent to basically vomit in unison, too. The precise reason for the story is still hard to pin down, though. It brings to light both Gordie's prowess as a story-teller and his twisted, vindictive mindset following the death of his brother. Mostly it's just a really entertaining, surreal, and wonderfully juvenile tale in amongst the child abuse, death, corpses, loss of innocence and trains. Plus, since it was such a key component of Stephen King's The Body, it would have been sacrilege to leave it out, despite the fact that Teddy didn't like the ending.

4. "There He Is. I See Him. I See Him."

What's so perfect about Stand By Me's conclusion is just how understated it is. Films that sign post their endings from the get-go often fail to satisfy, as they can't build upon what's been promised. Fortunately upon the sight of Ray Brower's body, you can immediately see the growth and demise of innocence of the characters, and the impact that it's had on each of them. All four actors -- Will Wheaton, River Phoenix, Jerry O'Connell and Corey Feldman -- showcase a subtly that still powerfully resonates and is way beyond their years, while you get a palpable sense of the noticeable change in each of them. As Dreyfus utters in his narration, "We'd only been gone for two days, but somehow the town seemed different. Smaller." Because of this nostalgic yearning, you can't help but look back on your own life, at your old friends, and smirk at your own preposterous antics. That's a rare power for a movie to provoke. That's why Stand By Me should be celebrated and appreciated as the bona-fide classic that it is.

3. "Vern, There's Something On Your Neck."

Not only did Stand By Me ruin playing on train tracks for kids, but it also taught us never to go and play in a swap in the middle of the forest. Why? Because of blood-sucking leeches, that's why. After taking the short-cut through the forest to get to Ray Brower's body, the foursome end up in a pool of murky water. They're unable to resist the allure of a nautical scrap, but that soon turns into mayhem when Gordie notices a leech on Vern's neck. They quickly brush them off each other, with Rob Reiner using sharp, quick edits to underline the urgency, before Gordie realizes that his own manhood has been a victim. The shot of a leech and blood being removed from Gordie's pants is both immediately gruesome and wince inducing. Makes you think he might have been better off being killed by the train after all.

2. "We Talked All Into The Night. The Kind Of Talk That Feels Important Until You Discover Girls."

While the soon-to-be-discussed train dodge is _Stand By Me's ___most memorable scene, the real heart, and ultimately the main reason for Stand By Me's enduring appeal, comes to the fore in the camp side sequence. It's noy just because of Gordie's story of Davie 'Lard-Ass' Hogan, but because of the trivial, yet integral, chatter that they partake in, which as Dreyfus' narration notes "feels important until you discover girls." The foursome try to figure out what the hell Goofy is, Vern reveals that he'd eat cherry flavor Pez all day for the rest of his life if he could, all the while the specter of Ray Brower's corpse looms large, without being mentioned. It's a reminder that the quartet are still kids, even though they're on the cusp of realizing the limitations of life and are beginning to harden and become more cynical.

1. "The All Time Train Dodge."

Stand By Me's most iconic sequence sees Chambers, Lachance, Vern and Duchamp crossing over a train track on a bridge with a 100 feet vertical drop down to the water either side of it. There's no room for them to escape if a train comes hurtling towards them, which it inevitably does. Chambers and Duchamp are close enough to the end to get out safe and sound, but Gordie sticks with a struggling and rather portly Vern. They move agonizingly slow as the train speeds on the tracks ever closer to them, so much so that each time you watch it you're certain they'll be squashed. They make it. Just. With Gordie flinging himself and Vern off the side onto the inclining hill. It's tantalizing to watch, and unfolds in such a way where you genuinely consider, just for a moment, that the film might actually kill one if not both of them. In fact, it's only comparison is the _Toy Story 3 _incinerator scene.

Real-life married couple Jerry O'Connell and Rebecca Romijn aren't opposed to sharing screen time together, which is to the benefit of TNT's upcoming new drama King & Maxwell. Romijn is set to star in the series, and today comes word that O'Connell will appear in a guest role at some point during the show's first season.

King & Maxwell is based on David Baldacci's characters and stars Rebecca Romijn and Jon Tenney as a team of private investigators who are former Secret Service agents and use that experience in their new line of work. Last month, we learned that Army Wives' Catherine Bell had joined the series. And today EW reports that Jerry O'Connell will guest star in an episode of the drama, playing the role of Waskiewicz, " a low-rent D.C. PI who tends to be a step behind on all his cases." To emphasize that point, the site notes that "I don't as questions" is on the man's business card. Not sure that's the most efficient way for a P.I. to get to the bottom of things...

I'm picturing a Vinnie Van Lowe (Veronica Mars) character here, and something tells me O'Connell can pull off the right level of humor if that's the direction the character's meant to take. O'Connell's King & Maxwell episode is set to air in mid-July.

Romijn and O'Connell have worked together in the past. O'Connell, whose recent work includes webseries Burning Love and Bryan Fuller's Mockingbird Lane pilot, appeared in Adult Swim's NTSF: SD: SUV as "Mental Man." He also appeared in another Romijn series, Eastwick. So the two are used to working with one another, which is a plus. It'll be fun to see how they are on screen together - assuming they are on screen together - in the new TNT drama, which premieres next week (June 10).

It seems like there's some confusion over who's the star of this show among its cast. Amusing segments aside, what's evident here is that We Are Men has some funny male leads sharing the spotlight. The comedy stars Tony Shalhoub, Jerry O'Connell, Kal Penn and Chris Smith together, playing four men living in a short-term apartment complex and attempting to ride out the aftermath of their individual romantic troubles.

The age gap between the characters is particularly intriguing. Rather than putting for twenty or thirty-somethings together, we have a multigenerational set of men, which could make for some more original humor than what we might see in another other bro-centric comedy.

CBS has this one set to air on Monday nights, which may offset some of the more female-focused humor brought to viewers by 2 Broke Girls and newcomer Mom. But it may stand out a bit, as it's the lone single-camera comedy airing on CBS on Monday nights. So we'll have to wait and see how it does. I'm also wondering when we can start referring to it as WAM.

The untitled pilot, formerly known as Ex-men and otherwise known as Rob Greenberg’s pilot at CBS, has finally gotten its main ducks all in a row. Over the past few months, the pilot has signed on a ton of notable names to its half-hour comedy, and now, to round out the cast, Jerry O’Connell has signed on as one of the leads in the pilot.

O’Connell will join the single-camera comedy as Stuart, a man with a successful business, but a far less successful personal life. According to Deadline, Stuart is an ob/gyn living in a small rental unit after a divorce, and it’s worth noting that this divorce will be #2 for the good doctor.

O’Connell joins several men already cast in Greenberg’s comedy, including star Chris Smith, who will join the rental unit and will earn words of wisdom about relationships from his more experienced neighbors. Joining O’Connell in providing wisdom to Smith’s character is Tony Shaloub as Frank, a man who has been married and divorced four times and Kal Penn as Gil, a man kicked out of his home after being caught in a bad affair.

Back in July, the untitled pilot was the first CBS ordered of the season, but despite the early start, shooting on the pilot will not begin until next month. TV Blend will keep you posted if this one makes it to series, and with the big names involved and the early interest in the pilot, I’ll go ahead and state the untitled comedy has a pretty good shot, at least if it gets its title issue in order.

Regis’ recent departure has left morning show Live! With Kelly with just one regular host and a slightly adjusted title. This week, comedian Jerry Seinfeld served as guest-host alongside Ripa, and now there are some new names lined up to fill Regis’ old chair, two of which are returning to the show, and two of which visiting for the first time.

The Hollywood Reporter posted the news, stating that actor Jerry O’Connell and singer/actor Josh Groban are set to return to Live! to co-host alongside Ripa. Also joining the show as co-hosts at some point are Jonah Hill and Dancing with the Stars’ Derek Hough.

O’Connell, known for numerous roles in TV shows and movies including Stand By Me, Sliders and more recently, Piranha, will co-host Live! with Kelly this Friday (the day after Thanksgiving). Castle (and/or Firefly) fans will want to tune in on Friday as Nathan Fillion is lined up as one of the guests. Jane Lynch will also appear in the episode. It looks like O’Connell will only be co-hosting for one day as Neil Patrick Harris is set to take over as co-host next Monday (11/28) and the How I Met Your Mother star will remain there all week.

Jonah Hill (Allen Gregory, Moneyball and the upcoming comedy The Sitter) will co-host on December 6th. Meanwhile, Josh Groban will be sticking around as co-host of the daytime talk show for three days, starting on December 7th.

A recent rewatch of Piranha reminded me of just how much I adore Jerry O’Connell. Sure, he’s often referenced as having once been “the fat kid from Stand By Me,” but let’s face it. He hasn’t been that adorable, fairly wimpy, chubby kid with the comb in a long time. In fact, seeing him on screen often prompts me to state, “Trip McNeely!” in my most Mike-Dextery voice. (Sometimes I whisper "Sliders"... it depends on my mood.) From a Slider, to a douchy high school grad, and more recently, a soft-core pornographer, O’Connell’s roles have varied over the course of his career, and if things work out for this CBS comedy, he could be playing a new dad at some point in the near future.

According to Deadline, CBS bought a multi-camera family sitcom, which will star O’Connell and focus on new parenthood. The series is apparently somewhat inspired by Adam Mansbach’s “Go the F**k To Sleep,” which is a humorous bedtime story meant to appeal to parents (with a sense of humor). O’Connell and Mansbach were teamed up by 3Arts and eventually put in touch with The New Adventures of Old Christine’s Jeff Astrof to work with them on developing a pilot.

Astrof and Mansbach will co-write the script for the pilot, which is described as “an adult family sitcom about a struggling writer catapulted into the spotlight as a parenting expert after his tongue-in-cheek children’s book becomes an unexpected hit.”

Come to think of it, the profane title of the book on which (from the sound of it) this project is loosely based, added to inspired-by-a-true-story angle is somewhat reminiscent of another CBS comedy. S**t My Dad Says, which only lasted a season on CBS, was based on a Twitter feed. That comedy starred William Shatner, who, much like O’Connell, is associated with numerous roles, including a notable sci-fi role.

Should this project end up going to series, it will put O’Connell back on CBS in a starring role. The actor starred alongside James Belushi in the short-lived legal dramedy The Defenders. If it does get picked up, hopefully this series has better luck than The Defenders and a less annoying-to-spell title than $h*! My Dad Says. (In other words, please don't title it Go the $u*! to Sleep, or Go the Stuff to Sleep.)

I doubt anyone out there is expecting Piranha 3D to be the next Jaws, but that doesn’t mean paying some homage to the classic won’t be warmly welcomed. In fact, not only does this new poster image bear a resemblance to Jaws, but to the original Piranha artwork as well. As compared to the domestic poster, this French one-sheet (via Shock Till You Drop) actually suggests there are folks out there who are looking for something more than bloodthirsty Piranhas popping out at you in 3D.

While the studio is banking on the extra dimension to earn some big bucks, it’s this more thoughtful poster that’s enticing me to catch Piranha 3D when it hits theaters on August 27th, not the gimmick-selling domestic version. I better stop complaining and just deal with it because after the critical atrocity The Last Airbender earned an impressive $53 million at the box office, posters using 3D to sell a movie rather than doing so through more creative and visually pleasing images like these will be coming our way in massive doses. Take in the glory of this one while you can.
