Jerry Seinfeld has made his feelings regarding Friends well known over the years, and his opinion doesn’t seem have changed any. Seinfeld and the aforementioned sitcom overlapped in TV history, and it’s easy to see the comparisons, especially when the comedian points them out. Both sitcoms were about a group of friends and were set in New York City, along with being among the most popular '90s sitcoms. Seinfeld took aim at Friends during a recent discussion and, with that, it's hard not to think about the other times he's spoken out about the series.

What Did Jerry Seinfeld Say About Friends This Time?

The topic came up yet again during Netflix is a Joke festival (via Hollywood Reporter) in which the comedian asked the audience to guess his favorite sitcom. They gave the usual answers from his own comedy (which in true Seinfeld attitude, he swiftly denied) to Curb Your Enthusiasm. During the festival, Seinfeld also shared his theory on Friends:

It's obvious that the comic is being playful here, though it's hard not to see the similarities between his show and that of David Crane and Marta Kaufman's. Sure, Seinfeld's eponymous show was successful, but it's clear that he has strong feelings about the sitcom's primetime counterpart.

What Jerry Seinfeld Previously Said About Friends

Seinfeld premiered on NBC in 1989 and ran for nine seasons, so it predated Friends which came on a “few years later” in 1994. When the latter debuted, it followed Seinfeld reruns. That fact seemed to elicit a cheeky - although very on brand - response from the comedian after he ran into Lisa Kudrow at a party. He had a funny response when the Phoebe actor told him hello:

Well, that was direct and to the point, and Kudrow also recalled saying, "You're right. Thank you" after a moment of confusion. Given the overlap of the sitcoms, it's not surprising to think of the two as competitors. Both of the NBC Must See titles were known for having insightful and funny moments. I still hear quotes and see merchandise everywhere with those sayings. However, some fans have pointed out other ways in which the iconic series overlap

A fan list (shared via Vice) speculates that perhaps some of Friends' fame stems from storylines that are a little too similar to Seinfeld's, such as a battle with pants that are just a little too tight. Interestingly enough, this isn’t the first time the the Jennifer Aniston and Courteney Cox-headlined series has been considered a "little too similar" to another sitcom. It's also been compared to the Queen Latifah-led comedy Living Single.

On top of all that, both NBC sitcoms were shot primarily before a live audience, with Friends taking longer to film. So, needless to say, there's a lot of connective tissue between these two programs.

Despite the similarities between Friends and Seinfeld and the jokes from the latter's star, it's clear that both comedies hold special places in people's hearts and continue to be enjoyed by different generations of viewers. For that, the cast and crews of both sitcoms should be proud.

They also remain especially meaningful for the cast themselves. While the Seinfeld cast drifted apart for a time after the show ended, they have reunited off and on throughout recent years. And, of course, the Friends cast has remained quite tight, and they even gathered for a reunion a few years before cast member Matthew Perry's death.

Seinfeld is regarded as one of the greatest sitcoms of all time – but there were undeniably criticisms of the show during its run, and one concerned the performing skills of its titular lead. Keep all that in mind as you read David Alan Grier's recent comments about auditioning for Seinfeld and being instantly convinced that the show was going to fail.

The actor currently has a great gig playing Dr. Ron Leonard on the NBC series St. Denis Medical, but he looked back on a couple of his early career mistakes during a recent visit to Today with Jenna & Sheinelle. In addition to admitting that he passed on Ace Ventura: Pet Detective because it was a "bad script," he recounted auditioning for the role of George Costanza on Seinfeld and his thoughts while doing a reading with the show's co-creator:

Grier didn't specifically say that he got an offer to play the part, but he certainly makes it sound like if he did, he would have passed.

For what it's worth, this probably worked out for the best. While David Alan Grier is a talented actor, I can't say I have ever seen him play the kind of lying, selfish, cowardly weasel that is George Costanza, and I don't know if those tools are in his toolbox. It's also just impossible to imagine anyone other than Jason Alexander playing that part, and his seven consecutive Emmy nominations from 1992 to 1998 are evidence of that (he was notably defeated by his co-star Michael Richards three times during that stretch)

David Alan Grier has never had a hit as big as Seinfeld during his career, but he has earned plenty of acclaim during his near half-century long run in film and television – up to and including his aforementioned role on St. Denis Medical. The sitcom, co-starring Allison Tolman, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Josh Lawson, Kahyun Kim, and Mekki Leeper, is currently in the midst of its second season and has already been renewed for a Season 3. Looking back on the career of Jennifer Coolidge, she has had a hell of a run in Hollywood. A constant presence in film and television since the mid-1990s, she was once best known for playing Stifler’s Mom in the American Pie movies, but she experienced a renaissance in the last few years thanks to her role on The White Lotus – which ultimately earned her an Emmy. She is beloved by audiences everywhere… and what makes it all particularly funny is that all of her success can arguably be linked back to a few lies.

Audiences know Coolidge from a wide number of roles, but her on screen career began with a single-episode part on Seinfeld back in 1993 – and she admits that she told a few harmless fibs that led her to getting the part. For an oral history feature by GQ chronicling the many, many girlfriends Jerry Seinfeld had on the classic 1990s sitcom, Coolidge revealed that she severely padded her resume to get the role of Jodi on the show, which was her very first television gig. For those who possibly don’t remember Coolidge’s time as one of Jerry’s girlfriends, she played the titular role in the Season 5 episode “The Masseuse.” Named Jodi, she starts dating the show’s main character but frustrates him to the extreme because she is unwilling to give him a professional rub down. She ends up expressing a deep disdain for George whenever he hangs out with Jerry, causing him to unwittingly fall in love with her, but she is best known for delivering the line, “I don't submit to forcible massage,” after Jerry tries to trick her into working on him.

The 1993 Seinfeld episode allowed Jennifer Coolidge to erase one lie off of her resume, and while her other earliest work isn’t nearly as memorable (movies like Plump Fiction and a short-lived SNL competitor called Saturday Night Special), she eventually started to land more significant roles in more significant productions. While Festivus 2025 has officially passed, Jerry Seinfeld revealed a reunion that took place on Christmas Eve that has already delighted plenty of fans of the sitcom, who now have more to enjoy than just rewatching episodes with a Netflix subscription.

Jerry Seinfeld reunited with Seinfeld costar Julia Louis-Dreyfus and co-creator Larry David on Christmas Eve, and the three were evidently sharing enough laughs that it was difficult to capture a photo with all three of them looking right at the camera. Would Jerry and Elaine be sharing Christmas Eve together if Seinfeld was still on the air in 2025? The show's finale back in 1998 was notoriously divisive, to the point that Jason Alexander had to defend it all over again in 2019 after the Game of Thrones backlash. Still, there's a reason why it remains one of the best shows to binge-watch on Netflix, and fans can have fun imagining what Jerry, Elaine, and the rest would be up to nearly thirty years after that finale.

I'm guessing that plenty of the people in Jerry Seinfeld's comment section would agree about the appeal of a reunion season, and there may even be a wider audience nowadays than back in the '90s thanks to Netflix shelling out a lot of money for the streaming rights to all nine seasons. Even if a revival never happens a la Frasier or Will & Grace, a Seinfeld movie would surely get plenty of attention.

Personally, I think a reunion special similar to what CBS produced for Everybody Loves Raymond would be great, and even a fun option for the holiday season in 2026 for a Festivus celebration. It at least looks like Seinfeld, Julia Louis-Dreygus, and Larry David are still on very good terms! Seinfeld is out in 4K UHD as of 2024.

Both actors appeared in several episodes of Larry David's Curb Your Enthusiasm, with the HBO series also featuring Jason Alexander and Michael Richards for a Season 7 episode, fittingly called "Seinfeld," in 2009. I always say your number of years in comedy is about your maturity level. When you're doing it ten years, you're like a 10-year-old. Fifteen, you're like a 15-year-old; you're start-- a slight bit of maturity. Twenty years, you're like-- kind of a grown-up, but still completely infantile.

Seinfeld's always been a little immature.

I'm on the plane, we left late, and the pilot says, "We're going to be making up some time in the air." I thought, "Isn't that interesting. They just make up time." Some people actually cheat on the people that they're cheating with, which is like holding up a bank and then turning to the robber next to you and going, "All right, give me everything you got, too."

Reverse psychology is classic Seinfeld.

I'll tell you, you get into a hot tub with three or four really old men, this is not the cover of the Club Med brochure. They get out of the tub, it looks like an ad for gravity.

Flying doesn't make me nervous. Driving to the airport can make me nervous. Because if you miss that plane, there's no alternative. No airline goes, "Well, you missed the flight. We do have a cannon leaving in about ten minutes. Would you be interested in that? It's not a direct cannon, you have to change cannons after you land

The thought of being shot out of a cannon sometimes sounds preferable to dealing with the airport, if I'm honest. Maybe this is the way to go. I hate missing flights more than anything in the world.

To me, clothes spend most of their lives waiting, if you look at it. In the closet, in the hamper, in the drawer. The shirts in your house right now are going "He never picks me...". Laundry day is their only exciting day, 'cause the washing machine is the nightclub of clothes. It's dark, bubbles happening; they're all kind of dancing around in there. A shirt grabs the underwear: "C'mon, babe, let's go!"

Who looks at their closet or a dirty pile of clothes and thinks of something like this? It might be disturbing if it weren't so funny!

Dating is not easy. What is a date, really, but a job interview that lasts all night? The only difference between a date and a job interview is: not many job interviews is there a chance you'll end up naked at the end of it. "Well, Bill, the boss thinks you're the man for the position! Why don't you strip down, meet some of the people you'll be workin' with?"

I've never thought of dating like this, but then, when Jerry Seinfeld makes the observation, it makes perfect sense!

The dumbest thing of all, I think, you can think in a New York cab is "Well, the man knows what he's doing!" "I mean, he is driving a little fast, but he's a professional cab driver. He's got a cab driver's license; I can see it right there." I don't even know what it takes to get a cab driver's license. I think all you need is a face... and a name with, like, eight consonants in a row.

I lived in New York for a long time, and I never once truly trusted a cab driver, but the crazy ones always got me to my destination the fastest!

I saw a thing, actually-- a study that said: speaking in front of a crowd is considered the #1 fear of the average person. I found that amazing! #2 was death. Death is #2? This means, to the average person, if you have to be at a funeral, you would rather be in the casket than doing the eulogy.

As someone who used to speak in front of people for a job at one point in my life, I appreciate the joke, but #2 still scares me more.

What is this urge to get information we already have? Whenever I'm in a car, and I drive by a mirrored office building, I look in the reflection to see if I'm in the car. This is information I already have! What am I looking for? Why am I checking? And what would I do if I looked and I saw that there was a small Korean woman driving my car?

Again, one of those classic observations that makes all feel silly for the things we all do on a regular basis. Seinfeld has a special skill in pointing those things out.

Whenever a friend refers a doctor they say, "Make sure you tell him that you know me." Why? What's the difference? He's a doctor. "Oh, you know Bob? Oh, okay. I'll give you the real medicine. Everybody else I'm giving Tic Tacs."

Bob knows people. Listen to Bob. Doctors are like nightclubs, there is a secret password for the best ones, right? Maybe not. Seinfeld is right.

The equivalent for a normal person would be to go in to work in your underwear... and try and do your job that you normally do. All of a sudden, you can't do anything. That's how a comedian feels when he's doing a new bit.

We all feel exposed at times. Maybe comedians do feel it more than we do, I don't know, I don't deliver jokes as well as Jerry Seinfeld.

It is amazing what people will believe. I mean, I've watched these infomercials late at night: if it gets late enough, the products start to look good to me. I have actually found myself sitting there thinking "Y'know... I don't think I have a knife that can cut through a shoe..." "I don't think any of my knives are good enough to cut through shoes!" "I'm gonna get this knife and cut my shoes up."

I haven't watched a lot of infomercials lately, but it's amazing how close I used to come to ordering the dumbest stuff I saw.

Now they show you how detergents get out bloodstains on television: pretty violent image, there! I think if you've got a T-shirt with bloodstains all over it, maybe laundry isn't your biggest problem right now. Maybe you ought to get rid of the body before you do the wash.

Seriously. If you've got a lot of blood on your shirt, you'd better be in the emergency or confessing to the police.

I would say the main competition for the book is the video because for some reason people feel they need to come home with a rectangular block of something that they don't know the end of. The big advantage of a book is it's very easy to rewind. Close it and you're right back at the beginning.

As writers who write about movies and TV all the time, this is the kind of conversation that comes up all the time.

A comedian is basically a very aggressive thing to do. You force people to see things your way so powerfully, they react audibly! They actually-- you force them to react. It's "Look at things the way I look at them, and laugh at it when I say to!"

This really lays out exactly how Seinfeld treats his job. He's so good at it, you never feel like he's attacking you, but you do almost always come around to his way of thinking. It's an amazing trick that only the comedians can do, and Seinfeld does it better than most. It's really special.

Look, there are plenty of animated films coming out on the 2025 movie schedule, but you know me – I love to look back on the films that shaped me as a person and have caused me to alter my opinion on them. Today, we'll be talking about Bee Movie. That's right – the movie that is basically a meme for my entire generation.

Before we get into it, let me say that I grew up in a time when Bee Movie, a DreamWorks Animation film, came out during some of the height of storytelling in CGI animation. In 2007, that same year, Pixar released Ratatouille, an underrated gem. DreamWorks Animation also released Shrek the Third, and while it's certainly not the best Shrek film, it was a part of a massive franchise.

And this is among several other animated films from other studios – shoehorning a movie like Bee Movie in there was never going to lead to it doing well in the box office, despite the mixed reviews that it did get. But now, years later, I've started to realize that Bee Movie stings me a little differently, and I'm here to convince you why you should check this film out again if you haven't in many years.

Let's Just State The Pop Culture Impact Of This Movie And How Hilarious It's Become

There are so many animated films that have truly made their mark on pop culture, especially in today's day and age, where there's almost an overwhelming amount of them. Shrek is another excellent example of that. The same goes for several Pixar films and plenty of Disney animated classics. Heck, the amount of Frozen memes I have seen is just too high.

But I can't write an article about Bee Movie and not acknowledge how this film has probably had the strangest, but hilarious memes out there. From the videos online of the film getting sped up every time someone says the word "bee," to the random jokes that are used over and over again on TikTok, to the soundbites we always get to hear – it's endless.

Honestly, a lot of the jokes in this film almost feel like a fever dream. I sometimes can't even believe that this movie is accurate and that this was marketed as a kid's film with how the internet has run with it. So, I have to give it the appropriate praise for remaining relevant over the years.

The Plot Used To Be All Over The Place For Me, But NowThat Only Adds To The "B" Movie Effect

Onto critiques, I think one of the biggest things I didn't like about the movie as a kid was the fact that it was tough to follow. It felt as if there was one plot after the other, and they were all disconnected, but then somehow reconnected at the very end. At first, it feels like one of the best rom-coms out there, even though it follows a human and a bee. Then it's like a law movie mixed with comedy, and then all of a sudden… it's a drama?

I don't know how my little brain kept up with everything at the time, and it's no wonder I didn't enjoy it as much as I did in other animated films at the time. But you know what? I really like it now.

I think the fact that Bee Movie kind of flies from genre to genre only adds to the "B" movie aspect. It really makes fun of the concept of B movies while using the plot device of bees to push that forward. It's kooky, wild and out there, but somehow works in the end as a comedy movie. I wouldn't say it's that coherent, but I can at least appreciate it for what it is now.

I Never Understood Why Barry Didn't Feel Different From Jerry Seinfeld, But Now I Know It Was Really Just Him Playing Himself

I don't even know how to describe how I felt about Barry Benson as a child because he was not my favorite animated character. But now I realize Barry wasn't for me as a kid – he was for the adults. Let me explain.

Most animated characters in these big-time movies are completely molded to fit a certain stereotype for kids to love or grow up on. We could talk about Tiana being an excellent princess in The Princess and the Frog or Po's journey of resilience in becoming a kung fu master in Kung Fu Panda—I could go on and on with examples.

But Barry isn't that. Barry is just Jerry Seinfeld, and now, as an adult who has watched Seinfeld and seen all of his stand-up specials, I know that he voiced this character as himself. You know how there's this running gag in Hollywood where Ryan Reynolds doesn't play characters and that he only plays different versions of himself?

Yeah, that is Barry. He is just Seinfeld who happens to look like a bee, but tells secretly hilarious adult jokes that only we get now. I have to give it to him – he does a good job. Now I think I like Barry a whole lot more.

I Used To Think The CGI Animation Was Bad, But For 2007, It's Not As Horrible As I Originally Thought

Another thing that I began to realize I didn't like as a kid was the animation, and I am just now realizing how much of a spoiled brat I was. Because really, seeing this now, the animation is relatively decent.

Again, during this time, we were in the height of the best Pixar movies out there, so CGI animation was really the best it had been over at Disney, and it was hard for my brain to comprehend why this silly little Bee Movie didn't look as pretty as the Pixar films. Now, as an adult, this film really isn't that bad when it comes to the animation.

Sure, there are definitely moments where you can tell this film has aged a bit. Some of the humans look pretty wonky, but there's no denying the bright colors of the flower fields, the bold patterns of the honeybees, and a heck of a lot more. Even so, I find myself liking it a lot more.

Personally, there are so many bad animated movies out there now that I really appreciate this film from the 2000s, where CGI was really starting to become the main thing across all studios, but everyone was putting their best work out there. You have to love it.

Truthfully, I Think This Movie Is Only Going To Continue To Grow With Age

There are undoubtedly many cult classics out there that you watch, and sometimes you wonder why it became one. But this will end up being a good one. Bee Movie is one of those films that was under-appreciated during its time, namely by kids like me.

But the world of animation has drastically changed. The quality of some films has gone down. Heck, even Disney, which felt like it could do no wrong, bombed with Wish in 2023 because people said the animation looked lazy and unfinished. Bee Movie isn't that.

Yes, it's not the perfect movie and never will be, but that's not what Bee Movie is trying to accomplish. It's a well-animated film from 2007 that aims to make you laugh out of the jokes, the memes and the strange plotline that you follow. But you know that by the end, you'll be having a good time.

I think despite all the jokes that have surrounded this film, it's going to end up becoming a favorite of not only my generation but the one that comes after me, and maybe even after that. When you live in a world where animation is everywhere and there are more bad films than great ones, you hold onto the few from the past that dared to push boundaries with their material and ideas, and Bee Movie was undoubtedly that.

This makes it sound like I'm saying it's the ultimate kids movie – and trust me, I'm not saying that. There are plenty of other great animated films for the whole family out there that aren't as raunchy and silly as Bee Movie can be. But I will ask that you give the film a chance on your next movie night just for fun. Maybe you'll end up liking it way more than you did in the past.

Speaking with The New York Times about her career, her candid and enlightening podcast, and more, Louis-Dreyfus discussed her desire (or at least willingness) to potentially return to a straightforward TV comedy one day, assuming it’s of a more limited fashion than anything open-ended. That led to her speaking about how dissimilar she is from Veep’s ego maniac Selina Meyer — which is why that role was a joy to play — with the topic then turning to political comedy, correct or otherwise.

That's a sentiment that anyone who frequently rewatches older movies and TV shows can attest to, particularly when it comes to the 1990s, where some of the best movies of the decade are rife with slurs and derogatory terminology regarding race, nationality, mental state, etc. But to her point, any movie can feature moments of questionable taste and humor without the entire project falling short.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus continued, saying:

The New Adventures of Old Christine vet is taking a centrist approach to the topic in saying that there's nothing wrong with believing some topics and ideas are possibly not ideal for comedy, while also positing that there is potentially something wrong with someone having a completely one-sided opinion about politically correct humor. Jerry Seinfeld, who returned for Curb Your Enthusiasm’s series finale that poked fun at Seinfeld’s polarizing swan song, made headlines for sharing his opinions about modern comedy earlier in 2024 ahead of the release of his Netflix comedy Unfrosted. His comments at the time, which touched on cancel culture, were widely criticized, to the point where he showed up on SNL and spoofed himself.

But then in April, Seinfeld talked to the New Yorker and doubled down on his opinions, calling out the “extreme left” and “PC crap” as the reasons why comedy is so hard to find on television now compared to the days when sitcoms ruled the small screen. In his words:

Jerry Seinfeld had one of the best sitcoms of all time years ago, and the comedian is back with a new Netflix movie about Pop-Tarts, which is about the most Jerry Seinfeld thing you can expect from the cereal-obsessed stand-up. What many might not have expected is how much the comedian known for the show about nothing is making something of himself with headlines promoting the film for things that many are not finding, intentionally, funny.

Seinfeld recently made comments about “cancel culture” that got him in some hot water, and now he’s doing it again. In a recent appearance on the Honestly with Bari Weiss podcast the comedian and director lamented the era of 'dominant masculinity,' and the internet is certainly having some fun at his expense.

During the interview host Bari Weiss talked about Seinfeld’s new film, Unfrosted, which critics have found equal parts hilarious and insulting, saying that the film seemed nostalgic for an era that had been lost. The comedian agreed, saying that he felt the world was missing an “agreed upon hierarchy” before adding that he has a nostalgia for a traditional view of masculinity, saying… 

The view of masculinity is certainly in an era of change. While Seinfeld's comments on masculinity echo those made by Michael Douglas and other older actors, younger stars seem much more comfortable with the transition into something that at least allows men to show a wider spread of emotions. Jerry Seinfeld may like a “real man” but Seinfeld’s throwback view of masculinity has not sat well with others who do not look back on the era fondly.

Jerry Seinfeld himself joked during the interview that he always wanted to be a real man “but never made it.” He knows he is not the paragon of that ideal. However, the fact that Seinfeld himself may understand the joke isn't going to stop social media from roasting him for what he said. 

Most people know Seinfeld from his television show and in that, his portrayal of himself was never particularly masculine. If anything the Seinfeld cast used traditional gender roles for some of its most effective comedy, as one on the former Twitter pointed out.

During a revealing chat on Dana Carvey and David Spade’s podcast, the former NBC star shared an intriguing behind-the-scenes tidbit about his feature directorial debut, Unfrosted. The film on the 2024 movie schedule, which humorously delves into the slightly true but mostly fictional origin story of Pop-Tarts amidst a breakfast pastry rivalry between cereal giants Kellogg’s and Post, originally had a moment planned that would have directly nodded to Chris Rock’s infamous Oscars slap. The scene would have been a sort of redemption scene, but even the legendary comic isn’t sure it would’ve worked.

Talking on the Fly On The Wall podcast, the co-creator of arguably the greatest sitcom of all time described an unused bit that would have seen Rock playing an emcee at a fictional award show, engaging in a slapstick redemption of sorts. As he explained:

Interestingly, Cedric the Entertainer appears early in the film as Stu Smiley, the cheerful host of the fictional Bowl & Spoon Awards, which celebrates breakfast food achievements. Seinfeld revealed that Chris Rock was imagined for this part, but the comedian's readiness to revisit the Oscar moment was still in question, and ultimately, he passed, leading to a change in casting and creative direction. Are his answers anywhere near official Kellogg’s corporate knowledge? Not at all. However, they’re almost as hysterical as the movie that this video is marketing to the world.

Thanks to a Netflix promotion that saw Jerry sitting down to a fresh box of concerns, the Seinfeld legend addressed those concerns with the brand of comedy you’d expect. Take a look at this bout of Unfrosted-inspired chaos, below:

Before we dig too far into things, can we first admit that having Jerry Seinfeld riff on Pop-Tarts just feels right? As I noted in my Unfrosted review, the man knows his way around humorously tackling anything to an absurd degree. So putting Seinfeld in a director’s chair and letting him loose on some tweets is akin to giving your favorite musical artist an acoustic set to go wild.

While Jerry Seinfeld the director took details like Unfrosted’s crazy spoilery cameos seriously, this rapid-fire Q&A session plays to the strengths of Jerry Seinfeld the stand-up comedian. Some of the questions are valid complaints, while others come from a more picky mindset, with one query being the star of the show.

In my opinion, these are the three best Question/Answer pairings from the clips shown above:

• Q: "What's going on here? When I was a kid, Pop-Tarts looked exactly like they did on the box." A: Yeah, and the world looked like it imagined in your head. Snap out of it! Reality sucks!
• Q: "Why are you saying the Crazy Berry is 'limited edition' for nearly 20 years? Doesn't sound limited to me." A: It is limited. It's limited to how many we can sell.
• Q: “Quick question: are Pop-Tarts calzones?” A: I could see that, 'cause a calzone is a fantastic doughy envelope with the cheese inside, and the Pop-Tart is a pastry with the jelly or something inside. So yes, it is calzone-ish.

But of course, I did say that this quick Pop-Tart based laugh fest was almost as good as watching Unfrosted itself. And that’s not a knock against Jerry Seinfeld in any way, as the only thing missing from this lightning round on the topic is a mention of the limited edition Spider-Man-branded “Spidey-Berry” flavor that appeared to promote the 2002 movie.

With that caveat in play, I just think watching Unfrosted is a better experience because you’re getting more of this humor, with a top-flight cast, in an insane send-up of the Space Race. So metaphorically, I’m suggesting you eat both Pop-Tarts from the package, rather than just eat one and save the other for the fifth of never.

That’s your cue to use your Netflix subscription and enjoy Unfrosted, which is currently streaming for your convenience. And while you don't need Pop-Tarts handy to totally enjoy the movie, it certainly wouldn't hurt your viewing experience.

Jerry Seinfeld has been showing up everywhere the last few weeks in an attempt to hype his new movie Unfrosted, which hit Netflix this weekend. Unfortunately, much of the public conversation after these interviews has been about the director and star’s comments about modern comedy and less about the film itself. So, in an effort to get things back on track, Seinfeld decided to do yet another press appearance, this time on Saturday Night Live to poke fun at the press tour itself.

The sitcom legend was a surprise guest on Weekend Update, and not surprisingly, he received a huge pop from the crowd after Colin Jost introduced him as “a man who did too much press.” What followed was a seemingly beleaguered Seinfeld talking about how many journalists he’s talked to and finally offering some funny advice to Ryan Gosling, who has also been everywhere for what feels like a year. Now, what’s interesting here is Seinfeld very specifically did not address the substance of his comments. Saturday Night Live is not the forum to have some in-depth discussion to clarify what you said or defend yourself or apologize, but a lot of times performers at least vaguely reference what happened. For example: Ayo Edebiri was on earlier this year and addressed the comments she made about Jennifer Lopez during a seemingly unrelated sketch when she said sometimes you run your mouth on podcasts because you’re twenty-four and stupid. Conversely, the implication of Seinfeld’s comments are much more along the lines of this is the danger of doing 25 press opportunities in quick succession.

The Seinfeld comments in question, at least the ones that went super viral, were made to The New Yorker. In the interview, he blamed the lack of funny TV comedies on “the extreme left” and “PC crap” and said people are too worried about offending other people. He also talked about how the modern scripting process often involves many different people reading, which can lead to jokes getting neutered down. His comments were posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, and were criticized by many fans who pointed to shows like It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia, South Park and of course, Curb Your Enthusiasm as evidence you can still make edgy material.

Personally, I think the truth is probably somewhere in the middle. You can definitely still push the boundaries and create material that jokes about anything and everything. Nothing is off limits on the right show with the right creators and the right network supporting it, but I also think it’s probably fair to say that modern viewers are more easily offended and some of the networks do try to stay away from anything that could be interpreted as mean-spirited or offensive.

As for Unfrosted, the film tells the story of the invention of Pop-Tarts. It stars Seinfeld and an army of famous comedians including Melissa McCarthy, Jim Gaffigan, Amy Schumer, Max Greenfield and Hugh Grant, among many others. Reviews have been very mixed. We gushed about it and gave it four stars here at CinemaBlend, as did quite a few other outlets, but some have gone very negative. You can fire it up on Netflix and decide for yourself.

From the moment I first saw the Unfrosted trailer, two things stuck out in my mind. First, the crazy comedy tone of Jerry Seinfeld’s directorial debut looked like it was going to be absolutely nuts. However, the second thing was a pair of names that seemed ripe for a cameo opportunity that could make television fans even happier.

As it turns out, my hunch on those cameos was correct, and when sitting down with Jerry Seinfeld and Jim Gaffigan during the Unfrosted press day, I was able to ask how this pair of wild appearances came to pass. Now since what we’re about to discuss is probably the largest spoiler in the roster of inspired cameos that fill Jerry Seinfeld’s film, I have to warn the uninitiated.

Unfrosted’s Mad Men Scene, Explained

Unfrosted’s fictional story of Pop Tarts’ invention includes a couple of moments with, as Jim Gaffigan’s Edsel Kellogg III calls them, "a couple of can't miss Madison Avenue ad men.” But to the world at large, they’re known as Roger Sterling and Don Draper, played respectively by John Slattery and Jon Hamm.

As one could expect, the scene where Kellogg and his cohorts Bob Cabana (Jerry Seinfeld) and Donna Stankowski (Melissa McCarthy) plays out like a classic Mad Men pitch session gone beautifully wrong. With the Kellogg's team unable to decide on a name for their product, Don takes the idea of the Pop Tart and injects some sexiness into it. If you thought the process of unwrapping and heating up this classic confection couldn’t be turned into borderline TV-MA dialogue, you haven’t heard Jon Hamm’s spiel introducing what he eventually renames the “Jelle Jolie.”

Unfortunately, Edsel and company don’t take that suggestion, leading Don and Roger to leave the room in a huff. However, that's not before Donna shares her own moment of sparks with Don, because would it be a Mad Men moment without Mr. Draper trying to close the deal?

How Jerry Seinfeld Landed Those Mad Men Cameos In Unfrosted

Those who have missed Mad Men’s presence on the airwaves are going to love this scene, as there are plenty of pleasing references and nods to the series’ characters and events sprinkled onto this cinematic pastry. This includes some rather strong memories of Season 7’s final moments, which tracks since in a recent GQ interview, Jerry Seinfeld named the series finale as one of the best in the business.

However, when it came to landing Jon Hamm and John Slattery in the Unfrosted galaxy of talent, it actually wasn’t too hard to land. Seinfeld shared with CinemaBlend how simple it all really was, in these remarks:

As if the Unfrosted cast wasn’t already stacked with an insane roster of talent, Jerry Seinfeld decided to jump in and include the reunion of Sterling and Draper almost a decade after we bid farewell to Mad Men and its characters. While getting the actors to agree to this appearance was one thing, even during Jon Hamm's TV comeback year, making sure that the proper clearances were obtained was a whole other issue.

The Process Involved In Clearing Roger Sterling And Don Draper For Unfrosted

Plenty of historical figures and icons of foodstuff history are shown off in Unfrosted. In fact, there’s no other movie where you could see John F. Kennedy criticize a drawing of a Pop Tart, Snap, Crackle and Pop overseeing a funeral with military-style honors, and legendary actor Hugh Grant continuing his “Orange Era” of performances.

However, Mad Men's leading men are trademarked characters of fiction, which leads to much stronger copyright rules at play. Even then, as Jerry Seinfeld described the thought process executed to make it all happen, co-star and friend Jim Gaffigan also brought up another interesting concern. Here's what they told CinemaBlend further along in this interview:

"Jim Gaffigan: Also asking someone who’s done these iconic characters are they gonna be ok to do that?

Jerry Seinfeld: Yeah. It wasn’t that bad. It was a really long shot, to be honest with you, because Matthew Weiner is [a] very highly respective guy. For example, if someone wanted to take two characters from my TV series, and put it in their movie, that wouldn’t happen. … But they had a great sense of humor about it, they wanted to do it. But that took a couple phone calls."

While there were “a couple phone calls” made to jump through the hoops to secure these cameos, Mad Men fans will notice a rather interesting distinction that probably helped seal the deal. If you listen closely through the Unfrosted sequence that includes Messrs. Hamm and Slattery, there’s barely a mention of their character’s names; save for one utterance of, “Roger?”

Even in the end credits to Jerry Seinfeld’s directorial debut, the gents are credited as “Ad Man #1” (Jon Hamm) and “Ad Man #2” (John Slattery). So while we definitely know these are Mad Men’s shining stars at work, there’s just enough room for doubt that could distance the official legacy of Matthew Weiner’s television legend.

To make this whole matter seem even funnier is the meta video that Jerry Seinfeld did with Pop Tarts brand. As one could assume, there probably wasn’t much collaboration between Kellogg’s and Seinfeld’s camps. However, there was enough of a relationship to create this sketch where the President of Pop Tarts (Geoff Pierson) gives the comedian a hard time for making Unfrosted as an unsanctioned comedy. You can watch that bit below:

Leave it to a picture like Unfrosted to inspire some real life stories as crazy and intriguing as the fabricated history of the Pop Tart. While there aren't exactly any hopes of a Mad Men revival or sequel series in the air, I wouldn’t be surprised if someone at least tried to pitch an idea or two in the week to come.

Though if anything should come from this inspired moment of madness, it’s the suggestion that maybe Kellogg’s should take some inspiration from Don Draper and add that hint of chocolate to some of their fruit based Pop Tart flavors. You know, for those who dare.

If you dare to welcome the comedic chaos of Unfrosted into your own home, you need not wait any longer. All anyone needs is a Netflix subscription, a comfortable seating arrangement and enough time to flash back to their personally haunting origin story. Ok, maybe that last bit is optional, but you get the idea.

After Jerry Seinfeld starred in his eponymous sitcom Seinfeld — famously, a show about nothing — for nine seasons, there’s something fitting about the comedian making his feature directorial debut with a movie based on the origin of the Pop-Tart. The new comedy Unfrosted is now available to stream with a Netflix subscription, but critics had the chance to screen it early so as to better help us decide if we want to pop our favorite breakfast pastry in the toaster and fire this movie up this weekend.

Unfrosted stars Jerry Seinfeld alongside an ensemble cast that includes Hugh Grant — strangely, in his third role as an orange character of late — Melissa McCarthy, Jim Gaffigan, Amy Schumer and literally dozens of other recognizable names. In CinemaBlend’s review of Unfrosted, Mike Reyes says that while the movie doesn’t come close to an accurate depiction of the Pop-Tart’s origin story, it’s still “inspired comic anarchy.” Reyes rates the film 4 out of 5 stars, writing: 

Liz Shannon Miller of Consequence grades the movie a B, writing that the quasi-biopic feels like a true labor of love for Jerry Seinfeld, who appears to be simply a comedian having a good time with other funny people as they create something truly absurd. Miller continues: 

Comedy is certainly subjective, and that’s blatantly demonstrated here, as Chicago Sun-Times critic Richard Roeper fails to find any redeeming qualities within Unfrosted. He gives the movie just 1 star out of 4, pulling no punches as he labels it “one of the decade's worst movies.” In Roeper’s words: 

David Ehrlich of IndieWire gives Unfrosted a D, saying that Jerry Seinfeld et al. try a million different ways to make the pastry wars feel like life or death, rather than just focusing on one good way to do it. So many absurd things are happening that it ultimately feels like a movie about nothing. Ehrlich explains: 

Brian Eggert of Deep Focus Review is baffled at how such a talented cast could come together to produce such a stinker. There are no laughs to be found here, Eggert says, scoring the movie a 1.5 out of 4. The critic writes:  

The critics are certainly split on this one, with Unfrosted receiving a Rotten Tomatoes score of 44% from more than 40 critics. Jerry Seinfeld’s brand of breakfast-inspired comedy was definitely not some critics’ cup of coffee, but others have embraced the absurdity of it all. Comedy is one of the most subjective genres out there, simply because much like the “true story” of any historical event, everyone has an opinion. Jerry Seinfeld has taken on the challenge of both in one breakfast-centric package in his directorial debut, the inspired-by-a-true-story comedy Unfrosted. 

Broadening the subgenre of biopic that sends up a figure or event in pop culture history, Seinfeld has assembled an Avengers-style team of talent in a love letter to the Pop Tart. While it’s not even close to an accurate depiction of this breakfast staple’s real birth, the film is inspired comic anarchy.

Picture the Space Race of the 1960s but transposed into the world of mass produced food stuffs. Unfrosted digs its spoon right into the sweet spot between those, as the rivalry of cereal magnates Edsel Kellogg III (Jim Gaffigan) and Marjorie Post (Amy Schumer) sparks a most dangerous game. As both companies compete to get to the shelves first with a new approach to breakfast, audiences are treated to industrial espionage, international diplomacy, and mascot protests. 

Reading that description must sound absolutely insane, but that’s exactly why Unfrosted is such an enjoyable romp. Bypassing historical accuracy altogether save for some jokes that reference actual fact and events, Jerry Seinfeld and co-writers Spike Feresten, Andy Robin, and Barry Marder have crafted a tasty and fun treat as the subject of the story.

Unfrosted is basically a cross between Airplane! and The Right Stuff but focused on the creation of Pop Tarts.

As seen with the Daniel Radcliffe-starring Weird: The Al Yankovic Story, there are some subjects that feel ripe for the faux biographical treatment. And much like what director Eric Appel and Yankovic did with their rowdy ride, Jerry Seinfeld has made a firm choice to go the ridiculous route with his Netflix film. Within that decision, all involved are actually paying homage to the Pop Tart in a method that feels more suiting than any stuffy drama could have pretended.

Despite Unfrosted’s title seeming to side with the more traditional variant of this famous food stuff, the movie is as colorful as the brand’s variety of flavors and frostings. For this, Seinfeld must also be lauded, as his ear for comedy carries over rather well to the director’s chair. The stand up comedian/sitcom star shows how much he’s learned over both halves of that legacy. So when the madness starts to kick in, it’s supported by a strong vision. It invokes the Zucker Brothers and Jim Abrahams’ joke-a-minute pacing from Airplane! to and applies them to the stoic achievements of The Right Stuff. Fans of Looney Tunes and other similarly paced comedy stylings are going to feel rewarded.

The cast of Unfrosted is packed with ringers but never feels bloated.

Another comedy tradition that gets a workout in Unfrosted is the all-star cast. It’s clearly a no-brainer to stack the deck with talents like Jim Gaffigan, Melissa McCarthy, and Hugh Grant, but casting alone doesn’t guarantee results. Both sides of the camera need to be in tune and on the same page while also being game for anything. 

You’re never given a reason to question if that was the case on set throughout Unfrosted, as there’s not a single person who doesn’t sell this insanity with only the utmost respect. That’s quite a feat considering in addition to the main cast, there are supporting players like Christian Slater, Sarah Cooper, and Max Greenfield at work as well as a grab bag of notable comic figures in roles that serve as extended cameos.

It could all feel like a bit too much if there wasn’t a steady hand behind the wheel, which is why it’s even more important to highlight this specific success. The punchlines and cameos throughout Unfrosted are pretty quick and zippy, making for a briskly paced picture that never forces a laugh. This is probably one of the key advantages that a streaming release platform, as it’ll be much easier to enjoy multiple viewings to pick up any jokes that may have been missed the first time around.

An old school comedic sugar rush, Unfrosted’s balanced breakfast of bonkers is a laugh riot.

Unfrosted plays like a Saturday morning cartoon for grown-ups, and it invites the idea of viewers enjoying their favorite breakfast pastry while indulging. Nothing is taken for granted, with Jerry Seinfeld proving himself to be a directing talent that knows how to keep a movie on track even when the humor goes off the rails. It won’t take long for any potential decenters to know if this movie’s not for them – but at a time when people like to lament “they don’t make ‘em like they used to,” Unfrosted features a high level of confident chaos. 

Jerry Seinfeld proudly wears the influences of breakfast food and vintage humor on his sleeve. It’s because of that vision and voice that Unfrosted is able to act as such a fitting tribute to the era of Americana where colorful fun hit our breakfast tables and our televisions. Much like a Pop Tart, those who decide to dig in should be smiling with sweetness after.

While you won’t find “The Finale” on many lists of the best Seinfeld episodes, its influence on pop culture was undeniable, to the point where Larry David and Jeff Schaffer used it as an inspirational touchstone for Curb Your Enthusiasm’s twelfth season and its own final episode. Now streaming with a Max subscription, “No Lessons Learned” is a tour de force in self-reflective storytelling for a series that always kept its foot in reality’s door jamb, and CinemaBlend talked to Schaffer about his biggest laughs from filming the series finale. As well as how Jerry Seinfeld’s return led to that A+ scene with JB Smoove’s Leon.

How Jerry And Leon's Hilarious Exchange Came About

In an episode filled with surprising and well-executed cameos — from West Wing fave Allison Janney to the actress who played the little girl that thought she walked in on Larry jerking off in the bathroom — easily the best was Jerry Seinfeld himself, who returned to the HBO comedy for the first time since the 2009 conclusion of Season 7, which reunited the NBC sitcom’s cast and added a lot to Curb's list of Seinfeld callback jokes. It allowed the creative team to have Jerry take a front-row seat to Leon’s R-rated musings, and I could have watched an entire episode of their courtroom exchange.

The sex-fueled Leon had one very specific takeaway from his Seinfeld binge-watch that served as the lynchpin for their scene together, and I had to ask Jeff Schaffer how they got to that moment, in which Jerry joked about having hours worth of sex-tape footage with the actresses who played his sitcom character’s girlfriends. And apparently the magic touch needed was just getting Jerry Seinfeld to drop his guard to match JB Smoove’s illicit improvisations. As he put it:

I love that Curb Your Enthusiasm exists on a level where one hard-to-believe concept (that Jerry would lie to anyone about having Seinfeld sex tapes) meets another unlikely concept (that Leon believes the footage is unwatchable due to being on laserdisc) and somehow creates a perfectly plausible outcome. Although if Curb went on to deliver Season 13, I have to believe Leon would learn all he could about converting laserdisc data to other mediums. If there's ass involved, Leon finds a way.

Jeff Schaffer continued, saying the main reason that scene happened is because it's the kind of moment he'd have wanted to see.

Sadly, we didn't get to see Jerry mixing it up with Susie or any of Curb's other mainstay favorites, but at least we can cross "Jerry and Leon bonding over fake sex tapes" off the bucket list.

Curb's Showrunner Shared The Finale Scenes That Made Him Laugh The Most

Trying to pick a favorite scene from Curb Your Enthusiasm’s final episode is like trying to choose the best spaghetti noodle on the plate: most are equally enjoyable, and the best ones are saucy. So I was particularly glad when I asked Jeff Schaffer what moments were the funniest to watch during filming, and he brought up the scene that caused me to pause the episode because I was laughing so hard.

He began his answer by explaining that the goal, despite its Seinfeld connections and lineup of courtroom cameos, was always for the finale to function as a standard Curb episode, right down to storylines crashing awkwardly into each other. As he put it:

As unrealistic as this probably is, Ellia English kinda-sorta-definitely deserves some kind of an Emmy nod for her Auntie Rae portrayal in Curb Your Enthusiasm's finale. She not only brought all the same warmth and wisdom from her previous appearances, but English also went completely off the rails when Auntie Rae was on the stand and she realized that she'd been played by Larry and Jeff. The fact that she never said Jeff's fake name the same way twice was such a smart choice, leading right up to her flipping him off and screaming the total baloney moniker "Bathsheba Munderman."

Having been along for the Curb ride since the earliest days, Jeff Schaffer also talked about how much he loved the very first scene of the episode, in which Larry gets chided by a flight attendant for using a mobile device, and then rats his friends out for doing the same. It's classic Larry behavior through and through, which is why it stuck out in the showrunner's mind.

As well, Schaffer brought up arguably the episode's biggest non-sequitur exchange, which he thought was a lovely way to showcase Larry David and Jerry Seinfeld's relationship. As he put it:

I have to imagine that Jerry Seinfeld went into every conversation with Larry David knowing that something completely mundane could be brought up, only for it to take a surprisingly obscene turn somewhere along the way. What starts as an innocent recap about one's day can very easily turn into a defensive stance about how many other people have had wrongful assumptions about Larry's penis being erect. Nothing is easy with that guy.

Saying goodbye to Curb Your Enthusiasm is anything but easy, but all twelve seasons are available to stream over and over again on Max for anyone who met their cringe quotas yet for the 2024 TV schedule.

For some time now, we knew that Jerry Seinfeld’s Pop-Tarts movie Unfrosted was heading to our screens on the 2024 movie schedule. And up until, some of us might have been under the impression that this was actually going to be a serious historical drama with some comedy undertones. That notion is officially out the window after Netflix released the first trailer for the picture, and now I really want a movie just about James Marsden’s Jack LaLanne.

That’s right, the famed fitness guru of yesteryear is apparently part of the team that helped Kellogg’s beat Post to the invention of the Pop-Tart. At least, that’s what Seinfeld’s version of history suggests, which can be summed by up by the following synopsis: 

If you thought that description was crazy, you should take a closer look at Unfrosted's cast. Seriously, James Marsden is just the tip of the iceberg, as comedy talent like Melissa McCarthy, Amy Schumer, Fred Armisen, Jack McBrayer, and so many others have been assembled. Which is fitting, as this film’s approach of making the creation of the Pop-Tart look like the space race is something that needs a team that has The Right Stuff. 

But seriously, if Marsden was rocking those muscles when he made the X-Men movies, one could have definitely seen the competition he'd have given Hugh Jackman's Wolverine for the affections of Jean Grey. Let's take another look, for science, shall we? 

You have to wonder if the Sonic the Hedgehog vet's exaggerated depiction of this real life health nut is going to lead to some industrial espionage of some sort? Maybe Jack LaLanne goes behind enemy lines at the Post headquarters to try and lure some details out of unsuspecting employees? 

And if that doesn't happen here, there's always a chance that Jerry Seinfeld could build the Pop Culture Culinary Universe for Netflix, exploring this idea in a sequel or spin-off. There's certainly enough potential for that sort of thing, thanks to the severely stacked cast involved in Unfrosted: The Pop-Tart Story.

That's fair, which is why it pleases me to say that Unfrosted will make you believe a balanced breakfast is worth fighting for, as it debuts on Netflix starting May 3rd. We have seen countless great biopics over the years that dramatize the lives of musicians, athletes, politicians, and even an inside look at the origins of a popular video game with Tetris. However, another kind of fact-based film slowly becoming a Hollywood trend is the food industry biopic, with recent examples that include The Founder (about how McDonald’s became a franchise) from 2015 and 2023’s alleged account of a popular Cheetos flavor’s development in Flamin’ Hot. The next exciting entry in this category is Unfrosted.

The story behind the quintessential toaster-ready breakfast pastry that comes in a box, known as the Pop-Tart, is about to be revealed in an upcoming Netflix original movie from none other than Jerry Seinfeld. However, as the legendary comedian has previously teased, this film is not going to be like your average biopic. How so? We shall discuss that and more details we know about Unfrosted in our following guide below. Let’s pop to it!

What Is The Unfrosted Release Date?

On May 3, 2024, Unfrosted will finally pop up, ready to be consumed with a Netflix subscription. The date on the upcoming 2024 movies schedule falls nearly three years after the fact-based food movie was first announced in 2021, as reported then by Deadline. Additionally, this year also marks the 60th anniversary of when the eponymous morning snack first hit the shelves.

The Unfrosted Cast Is More Stuffed Than Pop-Tart Filling

We imagine that, if the Pop-Tart was sentient, it would probably be terrified by the amount of people who want to eat it — to reference an ad campaign launched for the product in the earlier 2000s. However, we also believe it would be proud to see that the Unfrosted cast is made up of such a stellar ensemble of A-listers. As confirmed by Netflix’s official blog, Tudum, the following are some of the talented people you can expect to pop into frame (most of whom are in currently undisclosed roles).

Jerry Seinfeld

Before starring in a movie about one of Kellogg’s most popular products, Jerry Seinfeld became a household name playing one of the brand’s most devoted customers as the lead of the Seinfeld cast in the groundbreaking sitcom he also created with Larry David. 

Most of the popular comedian’s other most notable acting credits are just more fictionalized versions of himself — such as on Curb Your Enthusiasm — save for when he lent his voice to the role of Barry B. Benson in 2007’s Bee Movie. Unfrosted is also his latest of many collaborations with the platform, including his 2020 Netflix stand-up comedy special, 23 Hours to Kill, biographical documentary Seinfeld Before Seinfeld, and funny docuseries, Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee.

Melissa McCarthy

Like Seinfeld, Melissa McCarthy is one of the most celebrated comedic talents of her time and has the Emmy wins and Oscar nominations to prove it. Of course, only her first nod from the Academy was a comedic role (Megan in the Bridesmaids cast) and the second was for one of her most acclaimed dramatic performances in Can You Ever Forgive Me?, showing that the SNL Five-Timer’s Club member really can do it all.

Jim Gaffigan

Also known for his impressive transition from comedy into more serious roles is Jim Gaffigan. The fellow comedian starred in a few sitcoms (including My Boys and The Jim Gaffigan Show) and funny cinematic favorites like Super Troopers and its sequel, but also shined in Chappaquiddick as Ted Kennedy’s attorney, Paul Markham.

Amy Schumer

After rising in the ranks of the stand-up world, Amy Schumer became the star of her own acclaimed sketch comedy series, Inside Amy Schumer, which Jerry Seinfeld once guest-starred on. One of her most celebrated cinematic efforts to date is 2015’s semi-autobiographical rom-com, Trainwreck, which she also wrote.

Hugh Grant

One of the only Unfrosted cast members with any specific, known details about his role is Hugh Grant, whom Empire reports is playing a man who dresses as Tony the Tiger for a Frosted Flakes promo. This serves as a perfect follow-up for the English Four Weddings and a Funeral star’s role in Wonka as an Oompa-Loompa, which sort of counts as a food mascot if you think about it.

The Unfrosted Trailer Teases An Explosive Story About The Breakfast Food Industry

The story behind the development of a toaster pastry does not quite sound like the means for an exciting cinematic experience. However, the trailer for Unfrosted proves that, in the hands of Seinfeld, big things can come in small boxes. Check out the clip for yourself below:

As the teaser suggests, Unfrosted will depict the rivalry over the Pop-Tart as a no-nonsense war in which even then-U.S. President John F. Kennedy gets involved and casualties ensue. Above all, it looks to be a fun comedy, complete with hilarious appearances and uproarious circumstances you rarely seen in films inspired by true events.

Unfrosted Chronicles Food Company Rivals’ Race To Create The Ultimate Breakfast Pastry

As the aforementioned Tudum post from above reveals, Unfrosted is set in 1963, during which breakfast food industry titans Kellogg’s and Post vie for supremacy in a war to be the first to release a "shelf-stable fruit pastry breakfast product." However, we probably should not expect a typical history lesson based on what Jerry Seinfeld said in the following June 2021 X post (from when the social media platform was still called Twitter):

The trailer should also be a good indication that Seinfeld and co. have taken quite a few creative liberties with how the story behind the Pop-Tart is told in Unfrosted. This concept of embellishing (or simply ignoring) facts for comedic effect was used successfully in 2022’s Weird: The Al Yankovic Story, which stars Daniel Radcliffe as the iconic musical parodist and, appropriately, serves as a parody of music biopics. Plus, comparing the structure to a space movie classic like The Right Stuff makes it sound even more epic.

Unfrosted: The Pop-Tart Story Is Rated PG-13

While Pop-Tarts may be primarily marketed for younger consumers, the MPA recommends that parents should be cautious about letting their children watch Unfrosted when it premieres. The film has been rated PG-13 for some suggestive references and language.

Jerry Seinfeld Co-Wrote And Directed Unfrosted

Not only is Seinfeld one of the main stars of Unfrosted, he also helmed the film, which marks the comedian’s first time directing a dramatized feature. He previously directed a segment for VH1’s The Concert For New York City in 2001, two stand-up specials performed by his friend Colin Quinn, and an episode of Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, featuring Jimmy Fallon.

Seinfeld also wrote the film, but not alone. As Variety mentions in a report from 2022, he collaborated on the screenplay with Spike Feresten, Barry Marder, and Andy Robin, who also wrote Bee Movie with the comedian. Seinfeld and Feresten are also credited as producers for Unfrosted, alongside Beau Bauman, while Marder and Robin are executive producing with Cherylanne Martin.

Netflix is also where you can stream the popular ’90s TV show, Seinfeld, while you wait for Unfrosted to finally premiere. That should be a good way to hold your attention as your anticipation, much like a Pop-Tart in a toaster, continues to heat up.

It was only a few months ago that moviegoers got to see Hugh Grant play an Oompa Loompa in Wonka, a movie he “hated” filming. But one man’s poor work experience is another person’s cinematic entertainment, and soon Max subscribers will be able to stream Grant acting opposite Timothée Chalamet’s Willy Wonka to their heart’s content. Even better, we’re not done seeing Grant play roles outside of his usual wheelhouse; he’s set to play a cereal mascot in Jerry Seinfeld’s movie about Pop Tarts, and I need to see his scene ASAP.

Unfrosted: The Pop-Tart Story delves into Kellog’s and Post Cereal competing in 1963 to create a pastry that, as described in the official synopsis, “will change the face of breakfast forever.” The end result is the former company delivering Pop-Tarts to the world by 1964, and while we already knew that Grant was part of the Unfrosted cast, we now know from Empire that he’s set to play Tony the Tiger in the movie heading to Netflix subscribers later this year. Or rather, he’ll play someone who has to don a Tony the Tiger costume, as seen below:

Wow, that looks grrrreeat… you all know I had to do it. Yes, at some point during Unfrosted: The Pop-Tart Story, we’ll see Hugh Grant portraying a man who has to put on the Tony the Tiger costume for a commercial. At this point in time, Frosted Flakes has been on the market since 1952 and Tony has been its mascot since the beginning, so he was quite the familiar face to people watching TV in the early 1960s. It’s wonderful to see Grant in that costume, but now I really want to see how this scene specifically unfolds and if his character is just as much of curmudgeon.

Jerry Seinfeld, who stars in, directed and co-wrote Unfrosted: The Pop-Tart Story, said he brought Hugh Grant aboard because he’s a “crazy fans of his.” For the first time in 30 years, Grant sent in an audition tape to give a taste of what he’d do with his screen time, and Seinfeld recalled the later exchange he and the actor had:

A British Tony the Tiger?! Is this a late Christmas present?! The good news is that Unfrosted comes out in a couple months, so we don’t have to wait too long to see this glorious moment. But if that’s not enough to entice you to check out Unfrosted, some of the other actors in this ensemble cast include Melissa McCarthy, Jim Gaffigan, Amy Schumer, James Marsden, Jack McBrayer, Bill Burr, Maria Baklava and Max Greenfield, among many others. When it was revealed that Curb Your Enthusiasm Season 12 would be real-life Larry David’s final run through society’s gauntlet as fictional Larry David, it seemed like a cruel joke spread by Susie Greene. Sadly, the long-running HBO cringefest is indeed wrapping up in the coming months, having outlasted David’s previous hit Seinfeld by three seasons. Speaking of, it seems as if Curb Your Enthusiasm is echoing Seinfeld once more with its swan song, this time concerning its infamous series finale.

At least that’s how I felt after watching the Jimmy Kimmel-infused season premiere, which delightfully brought back both Keyla Monterroso Mejia’s terrible-actress-turned-megastar Maria Sofia and Tracey Ullman’s Irma Kostroski, who can unnerve Larry like no other. They weren’t so much a direct part of my argument here, but are worth celebrating all the same. Let’s get into why the premiere felt like a direct echo of “The Finale,” which is seemingly at the top of no one's lists of the best Seinfeld episodes.

Both Start With Good News And Success For The Main Characters' TV Projects

The final season of Curb kicks off in a world where the semi-autobiographical sitcom Young Larry inexplicably became a huge hit, which near-instantly granted Maria Sofia household celebrity status. She’s popular enough that, possibly in the same week, she was booked for late night TV and also a rich dude’s birthday party in Atlanta. (You know, that classic benchmark of fame.)

Seinfeld didn’t quite take things that far, but its two-part finale kicked off with NBC giving Jerry and George’s pilot Jerry a series order. And it’s while on the trip to celebrate the news that everything went awry.

Both Seinfeld And Curb Have Characters Getting Into Trouble While Traveling

It’s during the aforementioned trip to Atlanta where Larry’s troubles with the law happen, putting him in a situation where he’s not so familiar with his surroundings. Georgia and California are opposite sides of different coins, which may not bode well for him. As if anything does.

Jerry, Elaine, George and Kramer found themselves in the unfamiliar berg of Latham, MA after their flight made an emergency landing. While not as far away from their familiar New York City neighborhoods as Curb’s cross-country distance, the quartet might as well have been on Mars.

Returning Characters From The Past

While Seinfeld's final episode may be one of the most polarizing sitcom offerings ever created, its most inarguable delight was the fantastic assortment of side characters who returned to help bring karma-laced doom to Jerry & Co.

Given that only Curb Your Enthusiasm's premiere has aired, it's understandable that Larry David and co-creator Jeff Schaffer didn't trot out dozens of Larry's victims, so to speak. But "Atlanta" did bring back Ellia English as Leon's Auntie Rae, who was a show fixture back in Season 6 when the whole Black family was present. I can only expect to see more familiar faces, with Vivica A. Fox hopefully among them.

Seinfeld Characters Arrested For Law Against Not Doing Good, Larry Arrested For Law Against Doing Good

The twist of satirical irony that befell Jerry's crew in Seinfeld was that their choice not to help the victim of a nearby carjacking made them guilty under the rarely enforced "Good Samaritan" law requiring bystanders to offer others assistance.

Curb Your Enthusiasum seemed to spin that concept on its head in the Season 12 premiere, as it was Larry's empathetic attempt to soothe the overheated Auntie Rae by bringing her a bottle of water as she waited in line to vote. That act is what causes the cops to scoop him up, as it's illegal in Georgia to offer just about anything to someone waiting to vote.

Both Were Written (At Least In Part) By Larry David

Following Seinfeld's popular and acclaimed seventh season, Larry David surprisingly exited his role as head writer, though he later returned specifically to pen the final episode's antics. So he's more or less the target of all the complaints the finale received over the years, making him the opportune creative to deconstruct Seinfeld's conclusion in whichever way he chooses.

Meanwhile, it's not really any big surprise that David also co-wrote the first episode of Curb's final season with Jeff Schaffer, since they handle the bulk of the improv-provoking plotting in each season, give or take a few other writers' assistance. But the point remains, if he wasn't behind the story arcs on the HBO series, or he wasn't the one who returned after nearly two seasons to close out Seinfeld, then it wouldn't be very meaningful for the current comedy to nod back to "The Finale" for any reason.

This May Have Already Been Hinted At By Jerry Seinfeld

Jerry Seinfeld teased back in October 2023 that "something" would be happening with Seinfeld's finale, but he kept it completely vague as to what he might be referring to. At the time, it seemed possible that anything from a reunion special to a Super Bowl commercial might happen, but it would be a fantastic turn of events if the stand-up comedian was actually talking about Curb Your Enthusiasm's final eason at the time. Whether or not this ends up panning out, I can't deny loving how much time I spent speculating about this. Thanks, Lar - sorry- Larry.

What makes the main four Seinfeld cast's characters such a dynamic group is not necessarily their respect for one another, but their tolerance of each other’s shortcomings. However, one person whom Jerry Seinfeld’s onscreen alter ego could never bring himself to tolerate is his sworn enemy: Newman, played by Wayne Knight.

Despite being good friends with Michael Richards’ Cosmo Kramer, the boisterous United States postal worker had an animosity toward the comedian that was more than just your typical friendly sitcom rivalry — which is appropriate since the popular ‘90s TV show co-created by Seinfeld and Larry David was anything but typical (let alone friendly) for its time. The question is, where did this feud start and what might we count as its peak moments of conflict? Let’s take a quick look at some of the best Seinfeld episodes and trace the history of Jerry and Newman’s clashes, quarrels and yada, yada, yada.

A Feud Almost As Old As The Character Itself

Before we actually start talking about Jerry and Newman’s feud, we must start by talking about the origins of Newman himself, who was conceived as the kind of TV character you never saw onscreen at first. The character’s debut “appearance” was in Season 2’s “The Revenge,” in which we only hear him speaking to Kramer, making repeated threats to jump from the top of their apartment building. At that point, the role was voiced by none other than Larry David, but for the episode’s later syndicated airings, his lines were dubbed over by Knight, who took over the role the following season.

It was then, in the season’s 15th episode, “The Suicide,” when the signs of Jerry and Newman’s animosity started to take form. It was already clear by the way the comic greeted the mail carrier with his iconic “Hello, Newman” for the very first time, but it only grows more intense as Jerry begins to fear Newman might reveal to their comatose friend Martin (C.E. Grimes) that he has been with the friend’s lover, Gina (Gina Gallego). In the end, Jerry’s attempt to buy Newman’s silence with a Drake’s Coffee Cake is thwarted by a hungry Elaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus).

What the episode does not provide, however, is an inciting reason behind Jerry and Newman’s mutual disdain, but to never reveal the feud’s true origin was kind of the point. Years later, Jerry Seinfeld told CBS News that “it just seemed funny to hate Newman.” That being said, one of the most fascinating revelations from Seinfeld’s Reddit AMA in 2014 is that, out of all the hilarious side characters on Seinfeld, Newman is his favorite.

Jerry And Newman’s Attacks And Grievances Against Each Other

Most of Newman’s funniest moments on Seinfeld, indeed, involve his various attempts to condemn, embarrass, or simply annoy his nemesis — such as in Season 5’s “The Barber” when he helps Jerry’s long-time hairdresser, Enzo (Anthony Ponzini), figure out he has been secretly taking appointments from his nephew, Gino (David Ciminello). 

This is one of several times Newman struck at an opportunity to give Jerry trouble, like in the “The Label Maker,” when he accepted a Super Bowl ticket that Jerry was initially forced to give up to his dentist, Tim Whatley (Bryan Cranston), or when he ratted out the Jewish comedian to his parents for making out with his girlfriend, Rachel (Melanie Smith), during one of the best movies of the ‘90s, Schindler’s List, in “The Raincoats.”

Some of Newman’s schemes against Jerry would grow even more elaborate, with two of the most notable examples appearing in Season 8. In “The Soulmate,” Newman assists in one of Kramer’s most ridiculous and despicable schemes: stealing Jerry’s girlfriend, Pam (Kim Myers). He later attempts to convict Jerry of mail fraud — which results in even more embarrassment for George Costanza (Jason Alexander) —  in “The Package.”

There were also some episodes in which Newman would not have to put out much effort to give Jerry trouble, such as in Season 6’s “The Big Salad” when Jerry’s relationship with Margaret (Marita Geraghty) is ruined by the discovery that she not only dated Newman, but he dumped her. Another time, in Season 9’s “The Blood,” Jerry receives a second transfusion from Newman, much to his chagrin.

Jerry And Newman's Occasional Alliances

Because of how extreme Jerry’s feud with Newman would become, the few times when they were forced to put aside their differences resulted in some of the most epic enemy team-ups in pop culture history. Of course, a good few of them were in collaboration with Kramer — such as in Season 5’s “The Sniffling Accountant” when they attempted to catch their supposed drug-abusing accountant in the act, or when they tried to solve their building’s water pressure problem in “The Shower Head” from Season 7.

There was, however, a time when the nemeses both conspired against Kramer in the aforementioned Season 8 episode, “The Soulmate.” When Jerry discovers Newman tried to help Kramer woo Pam, Newman offers to help him win her back if he agrees to help Newman land the woman of his dreams: Elaine.

Arguably the pair’s most memorable alliance occurs in a later Season 8 episode called “The Andrea Doria,” when Jerry discovers Newman has been using his self-storage container to store mail he's reluctant to deliver after he is denied a transfer Hawaii. However, when the opportunity arises once again, Jerry offers to help Newman get rid of every last piece of mail he illegally stored, going as far as taking over the mail route when Kramer’s bite on Newman’s ankle leaves him unable to complete the task. Unfortunately, the scheme backfires when "too many people [get] their mail.”

If we are to brand Newman as the main antagonist of the TV comedy, than I suppose you could say that it is “pure evil” which prevails in the end. In the controversial series finale of Seinfeld, Newman gives an impassioned speech envisioning that Jerry’s “day of reckoning is coming” and that he would “be there in all my glory, watching, watching as it all comes crumbling down." This turns out to be a pretty spot-on prediction of the episode’s conclusion, in which Jerry and the gang are sent to prison for ignoring a “Good Samaritan Law,” ensuring that Newman wound up being the victor in this momentous conflict.

Seinfeld is known for a great many things. It’s incredibly funny, for starters. It also has phenomenally built episodes, with A and B plots regularly colliding to hilarious results. One of its most magical aspects, however, is its special language and the characters regularly coining unique phrases. Each season added to the pop culture lexicon that we still use today, more than 30 years after the show’s debut.

We’ve put together this feature to celebrate that special part of Seinfeld’s existence, and hopefully it will deliver some reminiscence-based chuckles along the way.

Festivus

Are you sick of the consumerism that drives the holiday season? Perhaps you should try celebrating Festivus – created by the one and only Frank Costanza. On December 23, you can observe the special day by putting an aluminum pole up in your living room, ending a communal dinner by telling all of the people in your life about all the ways they anger you (a.k.a. the Airing Of Grievances), and concluding the evening with a wrestling match (a.k.a. The Feats Of Strength). Expect one or two Festivus miracles.

Bottle Wipe

There are many ways that actions reflect a relationship, and a Bottle Wipe is a good one. If you provide a bottle of water to a person to whom you are attracted, and they wipe the nozzle before taking a sip, it’s a clear indication that the attraction is not mutual. After all, if the person wanted you, they’d want your germs. This behavior is so significant that it even supersedes an open-lip kiss.

Close Talker

Have you ever been in a conversation with a person and find that they are standing just a bit too close to you? These individuals disrespectful of personal space can easily be summed up as Close Talkers. The prime example on Seinfeld, of course, is Elaine’s boyfriend Aaron (played by Judge Reinhold) in “The Raincoats.” His obsessiveness with showing Jerry’s parents a good time in New York is weird enough, but the way he gets in people’s faces during a chat is next level.

Decompressing

When you go from a strenuous activity to a time of freedom, it’s best – in the wisdom of George Costanza – to not act quickly or rashly. Instead, the best course of action is a period of decompressing, which is a pretty fancy way of saying “doing nothing.” It should be noted that there is risk in this behavior, in that your muscles could potentially become severely atrophied, leaving you open to severe injury.

Mimbo

Dumb people come in all shapes, sizes, colors and creeds, and they can also be any gender. That being said, the word “bimbo” generally refers to a pretty, airheaded woman, so Seinfeld made the effort to create a term for the male equivalent. A portmanteau of “man” and “bimbo,” “mimbo” is coined by Jerry in “The Stall” when he is talking about Elaine’s boyfriend, Tony, who is hunky… but definitely a moron.

Anti-Dentite

Nobody likes going to the dentist, but there are some people who take their dentist-hate a touch too far. Per Kramer in “The Yada Yada,” Jerry crosses a line when he starts making too many jokes about Dr. Tim Watley despite not being a dentist himself, and that veers him right into Anti-Dentite territory.

“These Pretzels Are Making Me Thirsty”

Do you ever have one of those moments where you just don’t know what to say – be it because of frustration or awkwardness? You should give “These pretzels are making me thirsty” a shot. It’s meaningless unto itself (particularly if you’re not actually eating pretzels when you say it), but it sure does fill up a silent moment in a conversation.

Desour

Grudges are generally not helpful. If someone disappoints you in a minor way, it’s best to try and positively move on from the incident and try to fortify the relationship. If you’re able to do this, congratulations! As George Costanza would say, you have successfully desoured. Now you can get to work on sweetening too.

Bad Breaker-Upper

A relationship may end for a variety of different reasons, but there are some people who like to stick a knife (or fork, perhaps) in your side as a goodbye. Elaine encounters one of these individuals in “The Andrea Doria,” and she acknowledges him as a bad breaker upper shortly before they part ways… but that doesn’t mean she can just shake it off when he tells her that she has a big head,

“Serenity Now!”

“Serenity now!” is the verbal equivalent of a stress ball. If you’re feeling overwhelmed with extreme emotion, just use it as a mantra to try and calm yourself down. Be warned, though: if you go too long without properly venting your emotions, as George learns in “The Serenity Now” when Kramer destroys 25 computers the stocky, dimwitted bald man bought from himself as a salesman at his dad’s company.

Double Dip

When it comes to crudité and the like at party buffets, people are technically free to dip how they want to dip, but if you don’t want to commit what is generally seen as a major social faux pas, you should consider just taking one dip and ending it. Unfortunately, George Costanza is an unabashed double dipper, and that leads to some serious consequences at a Detroit funeral in “The Implant.”

High Talker

If a woman you know is in a relationship with a man with a high voice, a.k.a. a High Talker, it’s best to be careful when talking on the phone. As seen in “The Pledge Drive,” identities can easily be confused and it can lead to some highly messy circumstances.

Jimmy-Leg/Arms

We now know it generally as Restless Leg Syndrome, but back in the 1990s, Seinfeld summed up the behavior brilliantly as having “the Jimmy-Leg.” In “The Money,” Kramer’s girlfriend (played by Sarah Silverman) is a chaotic sleeper, and when the Hipster Doofus goes to Frank Constanza for advice, he reveals that Estelle Costanza has the same condition in her arms (a.k.a. “the Jimmy-Arms”).

In The Vault

If you want to assure a friend that a secret is safe with you, all you have to do is tell them that it’s “in the vault,” and, barring your reputation, it should earn confidence. Be warned that this promise means a lot less if a lot of people “know the key” (in the case of Elaine, it’s peppermint schnapps).

Non-Laugher

A person who doesn’t find jokes funny is a person without a sense of humor… but that’s not the same thing as a non-laugher. A non-laugher will find enjoyment in a joke or gag, but instead of laughing, they will instead lean on a phrase like, “That’s funny.” As Jerry discovers in “The Switch,” this kind of individual is not an ideal match for a comedian.

Pop-In

One of the greatest demonstrations of the tight-knit relationship between the four principal characters in Seinfeld is their devotion to the pop-in – particularly when it comes to Jerry’s apartment. When Kramer, George, or Elaine want to see Jerry, they only very rarely call to announce their imminent arrival; instead, they prefer to just show up on a whim at apartment 5A at 129 West 81st Street.

Yada Yada Yada

Before TL;DR, there was “yada yada yada.” Does your story have a bunch of extraneous details that don’t add to what you and a friend are talking about? “Yada yada yada” is the perfect conversation shortcut. That being said, you should be aware that overuse of it may convince others that you are hiding something.

Muffin Top

Muffins are delicious, but not all sections of a muffin are equal. The stumps are tasty, but the real flavor center of the pastry is where, in Elaine’s words, the “muffin breaks free of the pan and sort of does its own thing.”

Mental Alarm

Alarm clocks can be obtrusive devices that start a day on a negative note, so it’s easy to be envious of people like Cosmo Kramer who can simply set a mental alarm: they think about what time they want to wake up, and their body does the rest. Note: due to the existence of a mental snooze button, these individuals should not be trusted to wake you up for important events (like getting a marathon runner to a race on time).

Picker

Any elementary school student can tell you that picking your nose is uncouth behavior – and yet there are pickers out there who do it flagrantly and in public. A warning to those who practice their behavior: if seen by the wrong person, it may cost you a romantic relationship.

Re-Gifting

Sometimes a friend or acquaintance gives you a gift that you have no use for, but it always seems wasteful to throw out something that is brand new. Re-gifting, from a certain angle, is similar to recycling in the present-giving world… but it’s definitely best to not get caught doing it, and that means not re-gifting to people who are in the same social circle. Dr. Time Whatley learns this lesson the hard way in “The Label Maker.”

Low Talker

Here is a warning to all the Low Talkers out there: if people don’t understand what you are saying, misunderstandings are bound to arise, and from those misunderstandings can come serious problems. For example, you may end up losing your career as a clothing designer because you accidentally lock a comedian into wearing your clothes on television and viciously embarrassing him (See: “The Puffy Shirt”)

Spongeworthy

If contraceptives are in short supply, sexual standards must be adjusted. Will the enjoyment that can come with sleeping with someone be worth the risk of potentially not sleeping with someone better? If the answer to that question is, “yes,” then that person is deemed, in Seinfeld parlance, to be Spongeworthy.

Shiksappeal

Per Seinfeld, shiksappeal is akin to an anti-Oedipal complex for Jewish men. Instead of having an attraction to women like their own mother, they are instead attracted to the opposite, such as a shiksa (Yiddish for a non-Jewish woman). In correlation, a non-Jewish woman who attracts Jewish men is said to have shiksappeal.

Man Fur

Putting aside the controversial nature of the sartorial practice, wearing fur is generally done by women in our society… but Seinfeld shows us that there are men out there with the audacity to wear a Man Fur. Elaine is utterly embarrassed when David Puddy begins to rock one in the episode “The Reverse Peephole,” and when she defenestrates the fuzzy jacket at a party, she finds herself facing a weird consequence: David takes the jacket belonging to the party’s host, Joe Mayo, and then she has to pay to replace it.

Baldist

Is Elaine Benes a baldist? That’s an accusation that Jerry levels at his best female friend in “The Beard” when he learns that she has never dated a bald man. It’s an open question whether or not she has a prejudice, but she definitely doesn’t like toupees, as she makes a show of throwing George’s out of a window.

Shrinkage

Thanks to Seinfeld, men no longer need to feel self-conscious when exiting a cold pool. The beloved NBC sitcom let the world know about the existence of “shrinkage,” though the sacrifice was one George Costanza's relationship in “The Hamptons.”

Bro/Manssiere

At an advanced age, men can get a bit… heavy upstairs, but that’s where the bro/manssiere is useful. Kramer and Frank Costanza can’t agree on what to call their invention, but it’s a support undergarment designed specifically for men, and it notable features Velcro in the back instead of hooks like a woman’s bra (though this is a feature that Morty Seinfeld would certainly hate).

Sidler

While some people stomp around like a Clydesdale, others, like J. Peterman employee Lou Filerman in “The Merv Griffin Show” can sneak around and sidle up on you. These sidlers are tricky to deal with, as they can not only steal credit for your work, but leave you holding the bag when you’re getting chewed out by your boss.

Two-Face

Ask any cinematographer: lighting is extremely important. With the wrong kind of shadows cascading, a beautiful person can look all kinds of ugly – hence the nickname Two-Face (yes, like the Batman villain, if that helps). Unlike Jerry in “The Strike,” it’s best not to just constantly bring them to the same place where you know they’re always going to look good.

Man Hands

“Like a creature out of Greek mythology”: Man Hands is the nickname that Jerry gives to Gillian, a woman he’s seeing after a setup orchestrated by Elaine in “The Bizarro Jerry.” She is gorgeous, but the series’ titular character can’t get over the fact that she has large, strong, and off-putting hands.

Good Naked/Bad Naked

The human body is a beautiful thing… sometimes. While people can look great prancing and posing in the nude, there are some positions we take that just look ugly regardless of your body shape. It’s the difference between good naked and bad naked, and it’s all well spelled out in Season 9’s “The Apology.”

After building a devoted fanbase through a series of stand-up specials, comedian Nate Bargatze is gearing up for his Saturday Night Live debut. Of course, like many SNL first-timers, Bargatze turned to previous hosts for some advice about taking on the gig. Now, in preparation for his hosting debut, the comedian opened up about getting help from Pete Davidson, Jerry Seinfeld, and more.

The beloved stand-up comedian opened up to ET about the advice he received after his hosting gig was announced. As “The Nicest Man in Stand-Up,” he’s built up enough rapport with other comedians that they couldn’t wait to give him some tips on hosting the late-night institution. Upon hearing the exciting news, he revealed how SNL Five Timer John Mulaney got him through the process.

Getting advice from a frequent host like Mulaney was the right direction for Bargatze to go. The Big Mouth star does an excellent job mingling with the not-ready-for-primetime players. Despite Mulaney’s support, the Grammy-nominated comic called sketch comedy “a whole different beast altogether.” He was confident about his opening monologue but admitted the cast and crew helped him with his nervousness regarding skits. After conversing with the frequent SNL host, other comedians who’ve hosted the show reached out to Bargatze with endless tips. He said:

Having the likes of Seinfeld and Davidson reach out to him was a nice moment of camaraderie in the competitive world of stand-up. The latter had better insight after making his SNL hosting debut the previous week following his departure from the show in 2021. So, the comedy star knows both sides of the coin. Maybe Davison’s advice will culminate in a viral sketch for Nate Bargatze much like his “I’m Just Ken” parody.

Despite only getting a chance to host SNL now, Nate Bargatze has experience in the TV space. Working in comedy since 2002, he has appeared in numerous comedy specials, with the most recent special, Hello World, being released for those with an Amazon Prime subscription.

When it comes to TV shows, Seinfeld has one of the most polarizing series finales of all time. The characters all end up in jail and, while some feel this was an apropos ending for the sitcom, others found the finale to be unsatisfying. That’s why when Jerry Seinfeld teased plans to revisit the installment alongside his co-creator, Larry David, he sent the Internet into a frenzy. However, not everyone seems to be in the know about a possible reunion, including the comic's co-star, Julia Louis-Dreyfus. When she was asked about her friend and colleague's sentiment, she dropped a humorously blunt response.

The Emmy winner spoke with The Guardian, during which she was asked about her former co-star's comments and whether new episodes of the series could really be in the works. Apparently, the comedy routine was the first time the New Adventures of Old Christine star had heard about the potential reunion, and offered she offered the laugh-worthy response below:

If the veteran comic was serious about doing something with the '90s sitcom's ending, he clearly hasn’t pitched the idea to the rest of the cast. Other stars have yet to comment on their own participation in the supposed project so, if it is happening, it's likely in its early stages. The Veep actress didn’t confirm whether or not she’d get involved if something were to happen, but I think many fans would agree that doing a Seinfeld reunion without Louis-Dreyfus would be foolish. After all, Elaine is one of the best characters on Seinfeld. Longtime fans would probably agree that Elaine has some of the funniest moments in the entire NBC show's run -- and is one of the reasons the show is so rewatchable.

Jerry Seinfeld teased a reunion years ago, so his latest comments regarding a re-examination of the show aren't too surprising. Also, if there's anything the past several years have taught us, it's that nostalgia is a hot commodity, as many TV shows have returned via reunions or full-blown revivals.

After the show ended, rumors of a “Seinfeld-curse” swirling, with many believing the actors wouldn’t be able to pivot to roles beyond the series. However, the SNL alum defied this, as Julia Louis-Dreyfus has starred in plenty of movies and shows since the sitcom ended its nine-season run in 1998. The actress, who is currently playing Valentina Allegra de Fontaine as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, also finds the supposed curse to be "moronic."

The beloved star reprised her role as Elaine on SNL less than a decade ago, so maybe she’d be willing to take a stab at her iconic role once again. Though of course, we still don’t know much about the idea and whether that would even be necessary What can be said right now, though, is that there’s certainly a fanbase for a revisitation of some sort. We'l have to wait and see what happens but, if Julia Louis Dreyfus does get involved, I’m sure many will be happy-dancing like Elaine.

Just because a TV show goes down in the history books as being enormously successful doesn’t mean said show ended on a a satisfactory note. Case in point, Seinfeld’s two-part series finale was met with polarizing reception after it saw the four main characters being sent to prison for, well, basically just being awful people. Strangely though, Jerry Seinfeld has revealed that plans are in motion to revisit “The Finale” two and a half decades after it originally aired.

Seinfeld revealed this while he was performing a stand-up show at the Wang Theater in Boston this past weekend. During a Q&A recorded by X user Kevin Rozell, the comedian said the following when someone in the audience asked if he liked the Seinfeld finale:

Jerry Seinfeld didn’t elaborate on what he and Seinfeld co-creator Larry David have in the works, but judging from his cryptic comment, it sounds like it will address how divide the final episodes were among fans. Could this simply be some kind of roundtable discussion about “The Finale,” or are these two preparing to actually shoot a scene set within the Seinfeld universe revolving around those episodes? If it’s the latter, while something live-action obviously springs to mind as a possibility first, it could also be interesting if an animated project is in the works given how much time has passed since Seinfeld, one of the most popular TV shows since 1970, concluded.

The closest we’ve come to getting a Seinfeld reunion was in Curb Your Enthusiasm Season 7, which a season-long arc where Larry David, Jerry Seinfeld, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Jason Alexander, Michael Richards and other actors from the show reunited to shoot a special episode. In 2014, Seinfeld and Alexander, as well as Wayne Knight, respectively reprised Jerry, George and Newman in a Super Bowl ad set at Tom’s Restaurant, which was used as the exterior for Monk’s Cafe in the show. Seinfeld also teased back in 2018 on The Ellen DeGeneres Show that a Seinfeld reunion was “possible,” but there was no further update about it afterwards.

Although it earned mixed critical reception (Jason Alexander is among its defenders), more than 76 million people tuned in to watch Seinfeld’s “The Finale” live on May 14, 1998 (the same day Frank Sinatra died). It’s the fourth most-watched series finale in the United States, following behind M*A*S*H, Cheers and The Fugitive. Seinfeld can currently be streamed with a Netflix subscription, but assuming whatever Jerry Seinfeld and Larry David have cooking related to “The Finale” will be recorded, it’s unclear if it will be made available on the same platform or elsewhere.

Following the publication of a profile alleging that the working conditions at The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon are toxic, which included one story from a former employee about an interaction involving Jerry Seinfeld, the Seinfeld star denied the claim involving him. In the story, 16 current and former employees spoke out against Jimmy Fallon, and told stories about their time working on the show. Now, Seinfeld has responded to one that involved him, claiming the allegation is “stupid.” 

The Rolling Stone story explains that two employees remember Jimmy Fallon scolding the crew member who was in charge of his cue cards while they were taping a bit with Jerry Seinfeld. According to those people, the moment was uncomfortable. Apparently, the Seinfeld star told the host to “apologize to the cue-card production member,” which he reportedly did. One anonymous former employee elaborated on what they saw, explaining:

After that, the story said representatives for Seinfeld didn’t respond. However, after the Rolling Stone piece was published, the comedian issued a statement denying the claims. His words were published in an update, and he wrote: 

Jerry Seinfeld, who was one of Fallon’s first guests when he started hosting The Tonight Show, has appeared on it many times since to do stand-up, play games and chat with the host as a guest. The talk show host also does an impression of Seinfeld which is very well known. It seems that this interaction published in Rolling Stone is not what Seinfeld remembers at all.

However, along with the claims about Fallon during this interaction with Seinfeld, many other employees spoke up about various interactions and experiences they’ve had that made their time working at The Tonight Show bad. Two current and 14 former employees spoke to Rolling Stone about working for Fallon and the talk show, saying it’s been “a toxic workplace for years.” 

These employees claimed this environment started at the “top with Fallon’s erratic behavior, and has trickled down.” One former worker described what it was like working there as a “pretty glum atmosphere.” They also explained that many were afraid of the hosts’s “outbursts” and unpredictable behavior. 

Before this Rolling Stone story was published, a staffer called out Jimmy Fallon for claiming he supported his writers during the WGA strike when he apparently didn't go to the meeting where they were told NBC wouldn't be paying them anymore. This was the beginning of the strike, since then Jimmy Kimmel, Stephen Colbert, Seth Meyers, John Oliver and Fallon, started a podcast, Strike Force Five, to raise money to pay their staff during the strikes. About a week after this podcast started, the Rolling Stone article came out.

This claim about how Jimmy Fallon acted in the presence of Jerry Seinfeld, which Seinfeld denied, is one of many stories from ex and current employees of the late-night talk show. At the time of this writing, Fallon and The Tonight Show have not responded to the Rolling Stone article. As this situation develops, we’ll be sure to keep you posted. 

Since the early '60s, Pop-Tarts have been the go-to breakfast dish for anybody needing a quick meal before heading out the door. I guess it was only a matter of time before a movie was made, though who would've thought it would come decades later from Jerry Seinfeld? The iconic comedian directed Unfrosted: The Pop-Tart Story, which will eventually become available to anyone with a Netflix subscription, and in addition to being a part of it, he's also brought on some famous stars. 

The cast list for Unfrosted: The Pop-Tart Story is unbelievably stacked. A look down this list will show a who's who in comedy and get readers excited for this upcoming movie. Let's dive in and talk about some of the big names who will take part in this comedy movie. Full disclosure, we don't know the roles any of these actors and actresses are playing, but seeing them all together has me very excited about this project. 

Jerry Seinfeld

Comedian Jerry Seinfeld will star in Unfrosted: The Pop-Tart Story, which highlights the competition between Post and Kellogg's to produce a breakfast pastry in the early 1960s. Seinfeld is most known for his self-titled hit series, as well as his successful stand-up career. 

Melissa McCarthy

Melissa McCarthy is, without a doubt, one of the funniest women working in film. Whether it's Spy, Bridesmaids or any of her other notable movies, McCarthy is always on point with her ability to seamlessly meld quick wit with physical comedy. Hopefully all of that is happening in Unfrosted: The Pop-Tart Story, but we can only wait and see. 

Jim Gaffigan

Stand-up comedian Jim Gaffigan might be primarily known for his stage work, but he's had a pretty healthy career in both film and television. Readers might remember his TV Land series The Jim Gaffigan Show or some of the various other movies and shows he's played a small role in, one maybe you've heard some of his voice work over the years, like as Thunderbolt in Stargirl Season 2.

Amy Schumer

Amy Schumer turned down doing the Barbie movie, but she'll be in Unfrosted: The Pop-Tart Story in an undisclosed role. In addition to a highly-successful career in stand-up comedy, Schumer has found in just about every aspect of entertainment from film and television. 

Hugh Grant

Hugh Grant is an acting icon, and while he may not be the first person that comes to mind in a traditional comedy, he's had roles in quite a few entertaining ones over the years. One of my favorites had to be his recent cameo in Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, but there are many other examples worth checking out. 

James Marsden

With Westworld officially in the rearview, James Marsden is in the cast of Unfrosted: The Pop-Tart Story. Marsden's career in film and television spans everywhere from X-Men to Enchanted. Having him aboard is a gift, and I expect his role will be a good one. 

Jack McBrayer

Jack McBrayer has come a long way from his days on 30 Rock, though a lot of the things folks love about his role on that comedy show are still present in some of his more recent works. I don't know officially what to expect from McBrayer, but I wouldn't be surprised if his positive-leaning Southern charm he's known for is on full display in whatever role he's been given. 

Thomas Lennon

It's hard to see Thomas Lennon and not see anything other than Lieutenant Jim Dangle of Reno 911. It's a credit to Lennon that his character has had the sort of longevity to still be relevant in 2023, though I'm sure we'll see him play someone entirely different in Unfrosted: The Pop-Tart Story. 

Adrian Martinez

Actor Adrian Martinez has popped around Hollywood on the film and television side in various roles since the early '90s. 2023 will be a big year for him with an appearance in Renfield, and it's possible we'll see Unfrosted: The Pop-Tart Story arrive then as well. 

Bobby Moynihan

Saturday Night Live veteran Bobby Moynihan has been added to cast of Unfrosted: The Pop-Tart Story. This is just another notch in the belt for Moynihan's growing film career and his already-impressive string of television roles. Given the amount of voice-acting the actor's done in recent years, I almost wonder if he might be a spokesperson for Pop-Tarts or something along those lines in this upcoming movie. 

Max Greenfield

Between his roles on New Girl and The Neighborhood, it's easy to see why any comedy would want to bring on Max Greenfield. He's a natural talent who also proved he has some dramatic acting skills, as well with projects like The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story. Hopefully he'll get a solid role in this film to further open up his career to other big roles. 

Christian Slater

Christian Slater's film and acting credits can't be summarized in a brief blurb, but luckily, he's enough of a household name we shouldn't have to run down the list. Suffice it to say that everyone should be thrilled he's in Unfrosted: The Pop-Tart Story, regardless of what he's doing. 

Sarah Cooper

Stand-up comedian Sarah Cooper will join the cast of Unfrosted: The Pop-Tart Story, and she's definitely one of the up-and-coming talents on this cast list. Anyone unfamiliar with her work should certainly check out her Netflix special Sarah Cooper: Everything's Fine to get ready for her upcoming performance in this movie. 

Rachael Harris

Lucifer fans should know actress Rachael Harris quite well, as she spent years on the main cast as Dr. Linda Martin. She's also had roles on numerous acclaimed comedies like Frasier and Ghosts, so she can bring a lot to this comedy film. 

Cedric Yarbrough

Cedric Yarbrough has done quite a bit in Hollywood throughout his career, though I daresay he's held any roles quite as prolific as his role as Deputy Jones on Reno 911. Now he's a part of Unfrosted: The Pop-Tart Story, and hopefully ready to wow the world with whatever he'll be doing in this comedy. 

Maria Bakalova

Bulgarian actress Maria Bakalova really burst out into Hollywood following Borat Subsequent Moviefilm and has slowly worked her way to larger roles in Hollywood. Her role in this movie is on the heels of her role as Cosmo the Spacedog on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, so 2023 could be a big year for the actress. 

Kyle Dunnigan

Stand-up comedian Kyle Dunnigan will appear Unfrosted: The Pop-Tart Story, and he'll join a lot of former co-stars in the process. Dunnigan was known for his role as "Craig" on Reno 911 and was a writer on Inside Amy Schumer. Suffice it to say he probably had a lot of friends on set. 

Peter Dinklage

Actor Peter Dinklage has jumped through a lot of genres in his career and proven he can do anything from fantasy projects like Game of Thrones to comedy outings like Elf. There's no telling what he'll be up to in Unfrosted: The Pop-Tart Story, but knowing Dinklage's talents, I'm sure it'll be good. 

Jon Hamm

Jon Hamm is rolling right on from his role in Top Gun: Maverick into Unfrosted: The Pop-Tart Story. It's quite a genre jump for Hamm, but no doubt the Emmy-winning actor is game for whatever the comedy brings his way.  

John Slattery

John Slattery will join his former Mad Men co-star in Unfrosted: The Pop-Tart Story. Though we know little about his role, Slattery is electric in almost any role he's taken on, and I wouldn't expect this comedy to be any different for him. 

Unfrosted: The Pop-Tart Story will stream on Netflix, but we're still waiting for an official release date. Hopefully, the movie will be as satisfying as a warm Pop-Tart, and it's hard to believe it won't be with this talented cast. 

It’s fairly common for Saturday Night Live episodes to remain watercooler fodder for days after new episodes air, but Dave Chappelle’s latest return to the 30 Rock stage drew reactions that are a bit more rare in their nature. Chappelle’s lengthy monologue (which was different from his dress rehearsal set), which was essentially the comedian’s reaction to the backlash against Kanye West and Kyrie Irving’s anti-semitism, has earned a swath of negative criticisms and calls for change. Not just from fans and viewers, but from those within Hollywood itself, such as sitcom royalty Jerry Seinfeld, whose Jewishness has long been a staple of his comedy.

Seinfeld, who is currently working on Netflix’s Pop-Tart movie, spoked with THR about toaster pastries, touring, his new book The Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee Book, and more. But of course, the topic of Chappelle’s latest SNL appearance came up, and when asked if he found it funny, the Emmy winner answered with:

As a comic who has long held a reputation for sidestepping any professional strife through his comedy and other projects, Jerry Seinfeld often chooses to focus on the positives rather than the negatives, which is quite unlike every main character — and most side characters — in his classic sitcom (which is available to stream in full with a Netflix subscription). And so it’s not so shocking that he first gave Dave Chappelle the benefit of the doubt and complimented the performance itself, while implying he wasn’t as pleased by the actual material. 

Understanding that a one-on-one interview wasn’t going to solve any overall problems, Seinfeld reserved any harsher opinions for potential conversations in the future, ones that he hopes would be “productive,” as he put it. But it’s not exactly clear if those talks will happen in the near future, as the two comedians aren’t exactly BFFs, which Seinfeld spoke to in saying:

Both Jerry Seinfeld and Dave Chappelle have lucrative deals with Netflix for their high-profile comedy specials, with the latter having sparked previous backlashes over material about transgender people and others within the LGBTQ+ community. But I doubt the streaming giant will be the place where the comics can have a productive conversation in that sense, considering its higher-ups have defended Chappelle repeatedly. 

To be fair, not everyone is waving torches and pitchforks in Dave Chappelle’s general direction. His Half Baked buddy Jon Stewart came out in his defense, not so much by validating the things Chappelle said, but by voicing his belief that trying to censor arguably offensive jokes and penalizing those who tell them is not the right way to go about handling the root of the problem.

The 2 Bears, 1 Cave podcast host’s brand of observational humor is refreshing in how it trades brutal honesty for off-beat absurdity that often veers on the edge of uncomfortable relatability.

Marc Maron: Too Real (2017)

He has found success from starring in the Netflix series GLOW, a brief appearance in the box office smash Joker, and, especially, interviewing Hollywood’s finest as host of the highly rated podcast, WTF. As one of the most exciting names in comedy today, it makes sense that John Mulaney would eventually find himself performing at a prestigious venue like New York’s Radio City Music Hall, but that does not stop him from commenting on the very absurdity of that concept in his Emmy-winning Netflix stand-up comedy special, Kid Gorgeous. The former SNL writer’s classically-trained stand-up style, complemented by his formal wardrobe and choice to carry a wire-attached mic, adds a refreshing, old-fashioned energy to the topics he dares to dissect with his razor-sharp wit in a special that demands repeat viewings.

Dave Chappelle: The Age Of Spin (2017)

Regardless of how you may feel about his more recent Netflix specials, you have to admit that Dave Chappelle’s intelligent observation, fearless expression, and effortless delivery is unlike anyone or anything seen in the world of comedy – now or before his time – and no better proof of that is in the first of his Netflix stand-up comedy specials, The Age of Spin. Filmed live at the Hollywood Palladium, this Grammy-winning special saw the A Star is Born actor’s triumphant return to the mainstream following his controversial decision to leave his groundbreaking Comedy Central series, which is easily the lightest of topics he touches on before riffing on everything from racism to sexuality and recalling his multiple encounters with O.J. Simpson.

No one’s brand of comedy is the same, so hopefully we have covered everything that fans of stand-up specials might be interested in streaming on Netflix in the list above.

Current network TV comedies like Abbott Elementary and The Conners are no doubt popular with viewers, as they rank among the most-watched half-hours in broadcast. Those numbers, along with the rating stats earned by just about everything on TV today (sans NFL games) pale in comparison to the monster numbers earned by ‘90s faves such as Seinfeld and Friends. The latter sitcom’s star Lisa Kudrow obviously knows now how widely beloved Phoebe & Co. have been for nearly 30 years, but says she wasn’t fully aware of the show’s popularity until its fellow New York-set series Seinfeld was its lead-in during the Must See TV era. And you know who helped clue her in on things? Jerry Seinfeld himself, albeit in as bemusedly smug a way as possible.

With the new horror-comedy The Parenting on the way, co-starring Edie Falco and Parker Posey, Lisa Kudrow talked to The Daily Beast about the upcoming return of her NBC genealogy series Who Do You Think You Are?, and of course the subject of Friends came up. When asked if she ever felt ratings competition happening between her show and Seinfeld, Kudrow said that wasn’t the case, and then revealed the plum cheeky way Jerry Seinfeld reacted when she met him as Friends was starting to explode. In her words:

Honestly, it’s hard to think about a way Jerry Seinfeld could have handled that exchange in a way that felt more true to his Seinfeld persona. (Or really, the persona of most characters on that show.) Nothing says pompous like being unable to congratulate someone without also loudly tooting one’s own horn. The stand-up comedian was obviously self-aware in making his comments, so it’s assumed they were said in light-hearted jest, as opposed to anything more sincerely vindictive.

Of course, that assumption is as much based on Lisa Kudrow’s seeming lack of leftover anger from that party as anything else, since Jerry Seinfeld was truly the king of network TV at the time, and his show did have the audience-amassing power to turn Friends from a “just fine” sitcom into a juggernaut whose cast members would go on to earn $1 million an episode. So it’s not like Seinfeld would have been overstepping things too much even if he had been more genuinely egotistical about his show’s impact on Kudrow’s. 

Lisa Kudrow, whose 59th birthday was recently celebrated by her former Friends co-stars, was obviously part of the high-profile reunion special for HBO Max, which allowed the ensemble to relive some of their glory days that not everyone maintained memories of. The special was nominated for various Emmys and other awards, and while no such special has come together for Seinfeld (beyond the cast’s reunion for Curb Your Enthusiasm years ago), fans can always hope.

Having previously talked about her son’s less-than-wonderful opinion about Friends, Lisa Kudrow is just as celebrated (on a smaller scale) for her glorious work on HBO's The Comeback, whose critical acclaim has nothing to do with Jerry Seinfeld...that we know of. Fans have clamored for years for the mockumentary series to return, but Kudrow told Daily Beast that she hasn't even asked the network about it at this point. Maybe one day...

All nine seasons of Seinfeld memorably became available for Netflix subscribers in the latter half of 2021, with the titular comedian utilizing the talents of Bryan Cranston to promote the news at the time. Meanwhile, all ten seasons of Friends can be streamed on HBO Max, and our 2022 TV premiere schedule has everything hitting the small screen throughout the rest of the year.

Warning! The following contains spoilers for the Superman and Lois episode “Bizarros In A Bizarro World.” Read at your own risk!

When Superman & Lois teased a journey to Bizarro World (or Htrae), it was understood that things could get weird. They certainly did, and amid all the reveals of how Bizarro’s life was before he traveled to Earth (and maybe even died), we got what might be the single best and out-of-nowhere reference in an Arrowverse show. The CW series mentioned Seinfeld in the most unexpected way, and fans were loving it. 

The moment came during a Bizarro Kent family flashback. During an argument between the Bizarro Superman and Jonathan, the latter offhandedly mentioned President Seinfeld. While a first name was never used, the mention seems rooted in the fact that Jerry Seinfeld is a big comic book fan, and the show Seinfeld featured quite a few Superman references in its run. That includes the episode “The Bizarro Jerry,” in which Elaine meets a guy who seems like – as the episode title implies – a Bizarro World version of Jerry. And viewers were all-in on the reference:

It doesn’t feel like a coincidence that Superman & Lois made this reference and that the implication is that Jerry Seinfeld is the President of Bizarro World. Fans watching loved the reference and, of course, wondered if the show truly was nodding to the comedian, since there was no first name dropped.

The idea at first may seem “bizarre,” but other fans were able to offer some perspective. After all, the alternate universe of Superman & Lois could do a lot worse for a president, considering that DC Comics once made Lex Luthor the president. I mean, I’d definitely want Jon Cryer to appear as President Luthor in Superman & Lois, but more than Jerry Seinfeld as Bizarro President? I’m not so sure. 

Suddenly, a leader who might be a bit of a wise guy isn’t such a bad idea! It’s also just cool that the Superman & Lois team wanted to show some love to Seinfeld and did so in a brief but cool way. 

Superman & Lois has briefly referenced Seinfeld before, and HBO Max subscribers can revisit the Season 1 episode  "A Brief Reminiscence In-Between Cataclysmic Events” on streaming. Clark told Lois that he was going to watch some Seinfeld reruns, which excited some fans at the time. Of course, it also created some weird questions, seeing as Seinfeld frequently referenced the character in various ways. It all starts to unravel if you think too hard about it, so be happy that The CW series referenced one of the best sitcoms of all time. I mean, they still haven’t referenced Supergirl, but since there’s a tease that’s coming, that’s nothing to get bent out of shape about. 

Superman & Lois airs on The CW on Tuesdays at 8:00 p.m. ET. Season 2 is really ramping up for the Kent family, and with the way things are headed, I’m wondering if they’ll all get out of this season unscathed. I can’t wait to find out what happens next and where everyone ends up at the end of Season 2. 

Liz Sheridan had a long entertainment career filled with many notable pivots. But it was her work as a TV actress on iconic shows like ALF and Seinfeld that endeared her to millions of television viewers. Her role as Jerry Seinfeld’s overprotective mother, Helen, on the latter series was arguably her most memorable role. With this, it would only make sense for her TV son to pay tribute to her after hearing of her death at age 93. And co-star Jason Alexander paid his respects as well.

As fans and Hollywood continue to mourn the late actress, Jerry Seinfeld decided to let the world know just how much he appreciated his TV mom. She spent nine seasons butting into his TV character's life while supplying endless laughs for audiences. There seems to have been a solid bond between the two performers, based on the lovely Twitter post Seinfeld posted after hearing of his colleague's death:

It's nice to see that the two co-stars had a friendly relationship while working together on the fan-favorite sitcom. The fact that the Bee Movie actor felt comfortable whenever Liz Sheridan would guest star on the series is a huge testament to her both as both a person and a performer. And every time they appeared on screen together was perfect. Viewers came to expect that the fictional Jerry would end up being humorously frustrated whenever Helen and his father, Morty (played by the late Barney Martin), came to visit. Those were easily some of the best moments that the comedy series had to offer. And honestly, had the star done another sitcom, Sheridan could've just played his mother again.

I couldn't think of a better way to sum up the late actress and her career. Sadly, this isn't the only loss the Seinfeld family has experienced as of late. Just a few weeks ago, Estelle Harris, who played Jason Alexander's mom on the show, passed away at the age of 93. Alexander remembered his TV mom with an incredibly sentimental message that encapsulate his feelings for her. Needless to say, he, as well as fans everywhere, are going to miss the two impactful actresses.

Besides her iconic roles in the aforementioned sitcoms, Liz Sheridan appeared in plenty of other notable TV shows, dating back to the 1970s. She spent years guest-starring on classic series, including St. Elsewhere, Blossom, and Family Ties. She definitely leaves an incredible legacy, but you can't help but love the fact that she managed to leaving last marks on co-stars like Jerry Seinfeld and Jason Alexander as she worked all of those gigs.

After Hulu's streaming rights deal for Seinfeld expired in June 2021, the show was stuck in a sort of limbo, with many fans left wondering what would happen to the beloved sitcom's digital existence. After all, there’s only so many times one can watch the same edited-to-hell syndicated episodes on cable before going a little crazy. That’s where Netflix came in: the streaming giant just dropped every season of Seinfeld into its lineup, and star Jerry Seinfeld joined forces with Bryan Cranston for a celebratory promo video. 

As of October 1, 2021, all nine seasons of the hit sitcom Seinfeld are available to stream on Netflix. To celebrate the comedy’s return to streaming after a five-month hiatus, original star Jerry Seinfeld teamed up with Breaking Bad great and fellow Seinfeld veteran Bryan Cranston for a fun LEGO-inspired skit. Bryan Cranston guest-starred on Seinfeld as the dentist Tim Whatley back in the 90’s, but is playing old-timey television announcer narrating Jerry Seinfeld's actions in the new vid. With corporate synergy to spare, the comedian is costumed as a life-sized LEGO version of his TV character, tying in with the recent release of LEGO's limited edition Seinfeld set that allows customers to build a miniature model of Jerry’s iconic Upper West Side apartment. As goofy as it is to watch Jerry Seinfeld clumsily pour himself a bowl of plastic cereal with his “C-shaped” hands, it’s even more amusing to watch Bryan Cranston have so much fun in non-LEGO mode. When you’re used to watching him play a grizzled chemistry-teacher-turned-meth-dealer on Breaking Bad, or a dilemma-strapped judge on Showtime's Your Honor, a hard cut to Cranston in chino shorts is nothing short of comedy gold. 

The video also features some other amazing references to the original show. Patrick Warburton makes a blink-and-you-miss-it cameo as LEGO David Puddy (Elaine’s on-again, off-again boyfriend) to fire off his signature one-liner: “Yeah, that’s right," though no screaming about the Devils or Arby's. Sadly, Bryan Cranston informed fans that LEGO Tim Whatley will not be available - after all, he only did six episodes (a fact Bryan Cranston hammers home with mock-outrage). 

It's a fun promo for a classic series, as weird as that is to consider. YouTube commenter Hakubi perhaps summed the commercial up best:

If you’re missing the cast after rewatching all 9 hysterical seasons, there’s plenty of content to check out. Julia Louis-Dreyfus has established herself as a television mainstay, with shows like The New Adventures of Old Christine and a multiple Emmy-winning performance as Selina Meyer on Veep. Jason Alexander frequently pops up in animation voice-acting, and recently started his guest-starring stint on ABC's The Conners. And, of course, this list would be incomplete without a mention of creator Larry David’s Curb Your Enthusiasm, a sort of spiritual successor to Seinfeld. Neither Veep nor Curb Your Enthusiasm are available to stream on Netflix, of course, but are instead found on HBO Max. Not that there's anything wrong with that. 

A show that never overstays its welcome, the beloved sitcom Seinfeld has left its streaming home on Hulu after five years. While some fans no doubt hope that the series will soon become available to stream elsewhere - with Netflix as its notable future home - it doesn't look like that will be the case for the immediate future.

Seinfeld won’t arrive on Netflix until closer to the fall, with September likely the earliest that it'll show up, according to Vulture. That leaves fans to try and catch reruns of the show on TV, or via the many seasonal DVD sets. Such a delay probably wasn't expected by many, since the series' streaming service shift was previously announced. It’s possible that executives wanted to leave room between Seinfeld's Hulu exit and its arrival on Netflix to build up some genuine anticipation. It's also possible, however, that Netflix’s specific deal with Sony Pictures Television stipulates that the streaming giant can't take possession until a certain amount of time has passed.

Since Netflix is no longer the home of mega-hit shows like Friends, The Office or That ‘70s Show, Seinfeld's eventual arrival gives the streamer a leg (giddy)up. The show about nothing was a big draw for Hulu for the past half-decade, and Netflix subscribers will likely put the show into its Top 10 rankings almost immediately. What are the chances that Netflix is trying to pull off a Seinfeld reunion special in the vein of HBO Max's headline-making Friends: The Reunion.

It’s also possible that Netflix wants to wait on Seinfeld because of series star Jerry Seinfeld himself. The comedian has four Netflix comedy specials - not to mention a PopTarts movie on the way outside of Netflix - and it could be that he has another stand-up special planned to come out in the fall. It would make sense that the streamer would want to make the sitcom's release coincide with any new projects its co-creator has in store for fans.

Although nothing has been confirmed, Seinfeld's eventual debut on Netflix is not too far out. Hopefully, though, a release date is announced soon and fans won’t have to go long without Jerry, Kramer, Elaine and George, though we're okay with staying away from Newman for just a while longer.

With Seinfeld hopefully coming soon to Netflix, that will give sitcom fans a reason to reactivate their subscriptions they may have cancelled after Friends left for HBO Max and The Office left for Peacock. While those two streamers, along with Hulu, have some classic and beloved sitcoms and comedies, Netflix doesn’t have quite as many these days, with more of their budget going to original series. So it will be nice when a beloved classic like Seinfeld makes its highly-anticipated debut on the streaming service, assuming it hasn't stayed in the water too long. While he co-created what is arguably the greatest sitcom of all time, Jerry Seinfeld has never had much of a feature presence. He's had small roles in films, and did the voice for the lead character in 2007's Bee Movie, but his career has otherwise almost exclusively existed on the small screen.

All that being said, he's now ready to make one hell of a leap in his career, as he is in the process of getting ready to direct, produce, co-write and star in a developing film about the invention of the Pop-Tart.

News about this developing project comes to us from Deadline, which adds that the movie currently titled Unfrosted, and that Jerry Seinfeld is penning the script with Spike Feresten (Seinfeld) and Barry Marder (Bee Movie). Netflix is backing the project to be an exclusive for the streaming service, and filming is being planned to start next spring.

In its own way, it feels like a natural progression for Jerry Seinfeld. On Seinfeld he demonstrated an appreciation for eating cereal during any meal, and for years he was filmed driving around drinking java for Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee, so it's almost as if Unfrosted will be a capstone of an unplanned Breakfast Trilogy.

As noted in the trade report, Jerry Seinfeld has expressed a passionate interest in Pop-Tarts in the past, and has performed a bit about them as part of his stand-up act. You can watch a bit of it in the clip below, and recognize that his love for is very real:

In a statement about the project, Jerry Seinfeld said that the idea to make the movie was in part born out of his boredom from this past year spending time at home during the pandemic. He found himself reflecting on his old bit, and before too long it became a script. Said Seinfeld,

The origins of the Pop-Tart date back to the early 1960s, and the story begins with the folks at Post making a miscalculation. The cereal company announced the development of a new product called Country Squares before it was actually ready for production, and the executives at Kellogg leapt at the opportunity to try and beat them to market. This ploy was ultimately successful, and today it continues to be one of their biggest products.

With production not planned until 2022, it may be a minute before we get any more updates about Unfrosted, but it instantly becomes one of our most anticipated upcoming Netflix projects. While pop culture has regularly questioned how Monica and Rachel on Friends could afford such an incredibly nice New York apartment, the same has never really been the case for Jerry Seinfeld in Seinfeld. It's established in the seventh season two-parter "The Cadillac" that the TV character's comedy career is legitimately lucrative, and that goes a long way in explaining how he could pay rent on his Upper West Side pad. But while that's never been a mystery, fans have apparently only now discovered that the floor plan of Jerry's place doesn't really make any sense.

This has become a topic of conversation among fans because of a post on the Seinfeld subreddit on Reddit. A user posted a 3D rendering of the famous apartment (minus Jerry's bedroom), and pointed out that the location of the kitchen intersects with what should be the location of the hallway. Some of you may now be thinking to yourselves, "Well, duh – there's just a corner in the hallway." The problem with this idea is that the show features multiple scenes in that hallway, and at some points it is even looks like there is a door behind Jerry's refrigerator. Take, for example, this screenshot from the Season 2 episode "The Apartment":

Of course, the reasoning behind this "mistake" isn't exactly rocket science. TV show leads tend to have large apartments because it allows for a lot of space for characters to move through, and it allows for the capacity of getting a lot of different angles. On these kinds of sets, practicality trumps logic. Hence, while the shape of Jerry's apartment would suggest a dog leg turn directly to the right of his front door, that would be a terrifically annoying space to shoot in, so the production team opted to bend reality a bit and make the hallway straight and wide.

Is it a flaw? You could call it that. But to the show's credit, there are multiple other examples where its history demonstrates a smart attention to detail. One of my favorite behind-the-scenes stories about Seinfeld is that co-creator Larry David requested reshoots of the Season 4 episode "The Handicap Spot" after Frank Costanza was recast with Jerry Stiller (RIP) in Season 5, as David was concerned about confusion when the episode played in syndication (similarly, he had Wayne Knight re-record the Newman dialogue in Season 2's "The Revenge," as David himself originally performed the voice-only role in the episode).

All that being said, I've been a Seinfeld fanatic for almost my entire life and never noticed the oddness with the hallway, so I offer a big thumbs up to Reddit user PixelMagic for the realization.

Jerry Seinfeld has a vast body of work that’s helped shaped the comedy genre, but his greatest contribution to pop culture is arguably his eponymous sitcom, Seinfeld. The show enjoyed a strong nine-season run throughout the ‘90s and has continued to amass a fanbase through syndication and streaming services. With this, some still wonder why Seinfeld never developed another sitcom. Well, now the actor and comedian is opening up on his reason for opting against it.

Apparently, Jerry Seinfeld doesn’t like the idea of seeing “old” people on TV. Seinfeld explained that he wouldn’t want to present himself to audiences when he’s in a less than vibrant state:

In other words, Seinfeld doesn’t want to give audiences a product that features him not looking like himself.

During his recent appearance on The Howard Stern Show, Jerry Seinfeld was also asked why he hasn’t done anymore comedy specials. This led him to admit that he’s a perfectionist, which he thinks may have factored into his decision to forgo another sitcom project:

Many would consider Seinfeld to be a relatively perfect show, though some still have mixed thoughts about that series finale. Nevertheless, the “show about nothing” was a ratings hit for NBC and solidified Jerry Seinfeld’s status as a household name. Even today, viewers can still quote memorable lines and debate their favorite episodes. It also helped to propel the careers of some of its stars, particularly Julia Louis-Dreyfus.

With all of that said, one can understand why Jerry Seinfeld wouldn’t have wanted to jump right into something else right away. In the past, Seinfeld has stated his belief that he ended the show at the perfect time. His goal, at the time, was to make sure that the series didn’t overstay its welcome. This happens with plenty of shows, especially sitcoms, which tend to run longer than many other network series.

Though many are likely disappointed that Jerry Seinfeld chose not to make another multi-cam comedy, Seinfeld fans haven’t been left wanting when it comes to actually seeing the comedian. Not only has he made countless appearances in various shows and movies since Seinfeld ended, but he’s also headlined fan-favorite web series Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee.

Those who still want to revisit Seinfeld can also stream the series on Hulu.

No sitcom in TV history is quite like Seinfeld, and to drill it down a little deeper, no character in TV history is quite like Cosmo Kramer, a firecracker of a next-door neighbor whose talents for entering doorways was only rivaled by his endless line of money-making agendas. With over 20 years having passed since the show ended, it's easy to think that the only actor who could have ever played Kramer was Seinfeld star Michael Richards, but now Jerry Seinfeld has other thoughts.

In promotion for his recently released Netflix special, titled 23 Hours to Kill, Jerry Seinfeld has been taking on all kinds of interviews lately. One of the most interesting happened during his recent visit to The Howard Stern Show, where the comedian's future in stand-up was discussed. At one point, the late, great stand-up mastermind Andy Kaufman's name came up, at which point Stern opined that Kaufman would have fit in well on Seinfeld (the show) in the way that Michael Richards did with Kramer. It turns out Seinfeld (the man) agreed wholeheartedly. In his words:

As iconic as just about every single character is within the world of Seinfeld, Kramer remains the most unique and one-of-a-kind, although I guess that can be widened to two of a kind now that Jerry Seinfeld has welcomed the idea of Andy Kaufman being a suitable replacement for Michael Richards. Like few comics who came before or after his unfortunately short-lived reign, Kaufman was a character day in and day out, from his Taxi work as Latka Gravas to his Tony Clifton persona to his sketch show shenanigans to his real-world stunts and mini-controversies. Taking on a role like Kramer would have presumably been an easy enough venture.

Naturally, Andy Kaufman's Kramer likely would have been completely different than Michael Richards' take on the character, given their different styles of physical comedy. I'm not sure Kaufman would have ever done the bit where Kramer drank half a beer with a cigarette still in his mouth, or if he would have showcased Richards' manic, high-pitched reactions. But he would have likely been perfecto for the episode "The Merv Griffin Show," in which Kramer turned his apartment into the classic talk show's TV set. (Now I also wish that Kaufman had a talk show at some point in the style of The Eric Andre Show.)

Unfortunately, such a hypothetical scenario as "Andy Kaufman's Kramer" isn't realistic by any standard, considering the comedian died of lung cancer in 1984, five years before Seinfeld's Season 1 premiere. Granted, there are quite a few people out there who STILL think that Kaufman faked his own death and is surviving away from Hollywood's limelight, but even if that were somehow true, we still wouldn't know what he'd be like as Kramer. Unless he'd been secretly crafting a top-secret Kramer spinoff over the years...

Of course, despite some of his more questionable acts, Andy Kaufman is still widely appreciated and adored by comedy fans, while Michael Richards took a huge dive from peak popularity in 2006 when he repeatedly used racial slurs while going off on a group of audience members. Though he later apologized, and made appearances on Jerry Seinfeld's Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee and on Larry David's Curb Your Enthusiasm, Richards' stand-up career basically ended, and his on-screen roles have been few and far between.

Given Jerry Seinfeld's almost exclusively straight-laced style of observational comedy, Howard Stern didn't even think Andy Kaufman would have been someone that Seinfeld enjoyed. That apparently isn't the case at all. According to Seinfeld:

There's something kind of awesome in thinking about Andy Kaufman playing shows in the early '80s as an up-and-coming Jerry Seinfeld watched from the crowd. In a display of poetic karma, maybe someone that was in the crowd for the 23 Hours to Kill special will end up becoming the next Andy Kaufman.

Hollywood has lost yet another icon, as famed actor and comedian Jerry Stiller has passed away at the age of 92. Since news of his death became public, tributes have been pouring in from various figures from the film and TV industries. This includes Stiller’s former Seinfeld and The King of Queens co-stars.

Many fans remember Jerry Stiller for playing George Costanza’s short-tempered father, George, on Seinfeld for several seasons. Following news of his death, his TV son, Jason Alexander, took to Twitter to pay tribute to his late co-star and share a photo. In his message, Alexander called him a great actor, a great man and a lovely friend and referred to him as the kindest man he’s ever gotten to work with:

Jerry Seinfeld himself also took time to remember Stiller by simply posting a photo of himself holding a copy of The Last Two People In the World, a vintage comedy record of Stiller and wife and comedy partner Anne Meara:

The King of Queens star Kevin James, who played son-in-law Doug Heffernan to Jerry Stiller’s eccentric Arthur Spooner, called him a “kind, loving and funny” person and thanked him for the memories:

Stiller’s on-screen King of Queens daughter, Leah Remini, also took to Instagram to praise her TV dad and express her gratitude for having had both a professional and personal relationship with Stiller:

The outpouring of love for Jerry Stiller didn’t stop with the casts of his former shows, either. William Shatner remembered the comedian using a cheeky, Star Trek-inspired Twitter post:

Billy on the Street star Billy Eichner took a moment to remember Stiller’s presence on screen and express his condolences to his family:

Jerry Stiller passed away due to natural causes overnight, with the news being confirmed by son Ben Stiller this morning. Stiller is preceded in death by his wife, Anne Meara, and is survived his son and daughter Amy Stiller.

It’s not hard to see just how impactful Jerry Stiller was on Hollywood, especially within the comedy world. His career began in earnest in the ‘60s when he and Anne Meara formed the Stiller and Meara comedy duo. While their careers would eventually dwindle over time, Stiller would see a resurgence in the ‘90s, thanks in no small part to Seinfeld and The King of Queens. He would also become a mainstay on television, making guest appearances in numerous TV shows.

It’s never easy to lose a loved one, but Jerry Stiller’s former castmates seem to be handling things well by choosing to celebrate his life and achievements. And for a man who accomplished so much, it’s definitely fitting that this would be the case.

With all the hubbub surrounding the loss of Friends on Netflix, Seinfeld fans were thrilled that the streaming giant was finally able to acquire the rights to the beloved sitcom. Though fans had been asking for years to have the NBC series be available to stream on Netflix, it was Hulu that wound up with the rights to the show back in 2014. While the Hulu deal paid $180 million to be split between parties, the Netflix deal will pay the Larry David and Jerry Seinfeld each a whopping nine figures or more for the rights to stream Seinfeld.

Earlier this month, Netflix managed to nab the sitcom from Hulu in a five-year deal with Sony Pictures Television. It cost the streaming platform around $500 million. Per TheWrap, Seinfeld creators Larry David and Jerry Seinfeld, who also starred in the title role, are set to be making anywhere between $100 to $125 million with the deal. If you’re thinking that’s a whole lot of money, you’re not wrong.

Jerry Seinfeld is no stranger to Netflix deals, either. Back in 2017, the comedian managed to strike a deal with the streaming service that included stand-up specials, producing scripted series, and the rights to the actor’s Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee. The series, hosted by Seinfeld, aired on Crackle for nine seasons before heading to Netflix in Season 10 and is still going strong.

Hulu’s rights to Seinfeld will expire in 2021 and that’s when the sitcom will be available to stream on Netflix. The popular show about nothing (which is something I really needed to know before watching or risk being a bit lost) premiered in 1989 on NBC and ran for nine seasons before ending in 1998.

Netflix acquiring the rights to Seinfeld is interesting because it comes at a time when NBC’s other comedies are finding homes elsewhere. Friends is leaving Netflix in January 2020 and will be made available on HBO Max. Meanwhile, the beloved workplace comedies The Office and Parks and Recreation will leave Netflix in 2021 and will air exclusively on NBCUniversal’s newly announced streaming service, Peacock.

Jerry Seinfeld admitted to wanting to end Seinfeld while it was still at the height of its creativity, calling the decision to end the series in Season 9 as “the perfect moment,” even though NBC was vying for another season. It's rare that a creator has the ability to finish a show on their own terms (though The CW has recently gotten into the habit of warning its showrunners a season in advance of cancellation).

Although the news of Seinfeld coming to Netflix is a big deal, there’s been a lot of competition lately, especially since every studio seems to want in on the streaming platform. As a consumer of TV, to buy or not to buy is always the question.

The firing of James Gunn from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has sent a shockwave through the fandom world, with many debating the nature of his jokes and some calling for his eventual rehiring into the Marvel world. Many fans have gone back and forth over his controversial tweets about pedophilia and rape, and while it's difficult to come up with a concrete answer on the situation, Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee host Jerry Seinfeld recently addressed the firing and noted that the line between a joke and an offensive comment lies in whether or not the comment is funny. Seinfeld explained:

Jerry Seinfeld hasn't read the jokes that James Gunn posted on Twitter all those years ago, so his remarks aren't necessarily a defense or admonishment of the Slither director. However, as the sitcom legend explained, the most critical element of controversial remarks such as these is whether or not they're funny. Drawing comparisons to Roseanne Barr's firing from the ABC relaunch of Roseanne for her racially insensitive comments, Seinfeld explained that a comedian needs to be able to walk the line between funny and offensive and "understand that dynamic."

Of course, Jerry Seinfeld is coming from a very specific point of view in his remarks about the James Gunn situation to The New York Times. Seinfeld has spoken out numerous times in recent years about the perceived sensitivity of modern audiences, and as he laid out elsewhere in this particular interview, he feels that some fans need to remember that jokes do not necessarily reflect reality.

Jerry Seinfeld is far from the only person to chime in on the James Gunn situation in recent days. In fact, despite the fact that Gunn was fired from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 for his jokes, many have called for him to be rehired to the project -- with Chris Pratt and Dave Bautista both voicing their own desire to see him reinstated. For now, however, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (which was looking at a 2020 release) remains without a director until the powers that be can find a solution.

Jerry Seinfeld wanted to end Seinfeld while it was still on top, and to this day he has never publicly admitted any regrets about doing so. The comedian recently reaffirmed his stance on ending the series, despite the fact that NBC was willing to offer him an unprecedented $5 million an episode for just one more season. Here's what Seinfeld has to say about his decision:

Jerry Seinfeld said he's still happy with his decision to end Seinfeld, despite the fact he turned down a potential $100 million plus for another. For Seinfeld, it doesn't seem as though it was ever about the money, and luckily, he's not missing that money at the age of 64. The comedian explained that time has only solidified his decision, as the show's continued relevance and near-universal acclaim in pop culture continue to prove he made the right call.

Jerry Seinfeld's recent answer is a bit different than past responses regarding why he left Seinfeld, which he has equated at times to something one may only understand if they're in show business. Although the public wanted more, he walked away and has shrugged off any honest attempts at a Seinfeld reunion ever since. It may have sounded crazy at the time, but the fact that the comedian is fielding questions from The New York Times about the show and hosting a successful Netflix series rooted in his passion over 20 years later shows he knew what he was talking about.

Still, fans have to wonder if one more season of Seinfeld would've really affected the overall legacy of the sitcom all that much. After all, it was a "show about nothing," and it's hard to believe Larry David and Jerry Seinfeld didn't have at least 20 or so more ideas up their sleeve for potential episodes. Whether or not they did didn't matter much to Seinfeld apparently, and this latest statement makes us feel more certain those ideas will never see the light of day unless they appear on some sort of Seinfeld revival, reunion, or reboot. Maybe Seinfeld could at least return to Curb Your Enthusiasm will his former costars!

Jerry Seinfeld's show with Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee has taken on a higher profile since migrating to the streaming giant known as Netflix. And while the series has experienced even greater success lately, it has also been hit with a lawsuit. But from the sound of things, the comedy juggernaut Jerry Seinfeld is not too worried about it. In a new interview, Jerry Seinfeld has this to say about the pending lawsuit:

The lawsuit regarding Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee was filed back in February by Christian Charles. Jerry Seinfeld's response regarding the lawsuit in his interview with Associated Press (via ABC News) follows along the lines of the statement his lawyer issued in the wake of the lawsuit's filing. In the lawsuit, Charles alleges that he originally pitched the premise of the series to Seinfeld back in 2002, which Seinfeld turned him down on at the time.

Fast forward nine years later to 2011 and Christian Charles alleges that Jerry Seinfeld got back in touch with him regarding the concept. Charles also says he helped shoot the pilot. As part of the lawsuit, Charles is asking for a "Created By" credit, along with financial reimbursement. The series initially streamed on Crackle before heading over to Netflix as part of a massive deal between Seinfeld and the streamer.

The show follows Jerry Seinfeld and a celebrity guest as they chat during a car ride out to eventually sit down and enjoy some coffee. During the show's run, Seinfeld has hosted a lot of stars. He has recently hosted Jim Carrey, The Tonight Show's Jimmy Fallon, and Daily Show host Trevor Noah among others. The episodes range in duration from 10 to 20 minutes, although some have been longer and some have been shorter.

So how does the comedian say Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee came about? Well, according to Jerry Seinfeld, it sparked when he was working on another show and gained an interesting perspective on editing. Here is how Seinfeld says the idea for the show came into being:

Despite creating record-breaking ratings and scoring a renewal only a few days after its premiere, the Roseanne revival has been the center of a lot of negative buzz in recent weeks. The smash hit series was cancelled after star Roseanne Barr fired off a controversial tweet, prompting ABC to take immediate action. Barr came to regret her words and even blamed the tweet on Ambien, but her regret wasn't enough to save the series, and the Conner family will be back without Roseanne in an upcoming spinoff. Now, legendary comedian and sitcom star in his own right Jerry Seinfeld has weighed in on the controversial firing, saying this:

According to Jerry Seinfeld, ABC didn't need to fire Roseanne Barr from Roseanne, which might be a controversial stance to take if not for the rest of his comment. After all, a lot of people were upset at the content of her tweet, and ABC didn't waste any time in taking action in response to it. That said, the rest of what Seinfeld had to say points toward his belief that Barr was going to tank her career anyway, even without ABC's quick move to cancel her series and boot her out of the Conner family.

The odds are that Roseanne Barr won't be welcomed back into the Conner family despite the fact that the rest of the Roseanne cast will reprise their roles in the upcoming spinoff, currently titled The Conners. While ABC hasn't announced how Roseanne will be written out of the spinoff, the first description for the project states that it will pick up after "a sudden turn of events," which could point toward Roseanne Conner dying off-screen at some point between the end of the Roseanne revival and the premiere of The Conners.

It wouldn't be the first time in recent years that a sitcom kills off a matriarch between seasons, and ABC took steps to guarantee that Barr won't benefit financially from the spinoff. The Alphabet Network seems to have definitively cut ties with Barr, and viewers probably shouldn't count on her in the mix with new footage at any point on the spinoff. That said, if Jerry Seinfeld has his way, The Conners will bring back Roseanne Conner without bringing back Roseanne Barr. He went on in his chat with ET to pitch a way for the whole Conner family to return to primetime:

Jerry Seinfeld would apparently be on board with The Conners recasting the role of Roseanne. Recasting the character actually named after the original actress would be a bold move, but why not? ABC is already gambling that viewers will tune in to a Roseanne-less spinoff, so maybe a recast could be worth the gamble. That said, when Roseanne brought Dan Conner back from the dead for the revival, John Goodman still played the role. Would viewers really accept a Roseanne played by another actress, no matter how skilled?

We'll have to wait and see. Although I wouldn't put any money on ABC recasting Roseanne for The Conners, anything can happen at this point. Jerry Seinfeld is headed back to Netflix with more episodes of Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, which means audiences will soon see more vintage cars and celebrities talking comedy. The first trailer for the new batch of episodes has arrived, and in it we see Dave Chappelle, Alec Baldwin and more cutting it up with Seinfeld as he chugs caffeine and cruises around town:

Jerry Seinfeld yuks it up alongside some truly hilarious people in comedy, as his selections touch on relative newcomers like Hasan Minhaj, to the deceased comedy legend Jerry Lewis. As for the celebrities not mentioned so far, the new season also includes Tracy Morgan, Kate McKinnon, Ellen DeGeneres, Dana Carvey, Neil Brennan, Brian Regan, Zach Galifianakis, and John Mulaney. Seinfeld appears to be in his element with each one, and is even able to crack a joke during what appears to be the bleakest of conversations. Of course, we're sure Morgan was fine with Seinfeld's joke he made during his time with the comedian, as all guests on the show usually have a pretty great sense of humor. Fans will be able to find out for sure as the end of the trailer stated the latest episodes of Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee are coming Friday, July 6.

The trailer for Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee is straightforward and explanatory enough, although one has to wonder exactly why Matthew Broderick is involved in it. Not that we're complaining, but without Broderick playing a part in the new season in any way, it seems odd that Jerry Seinfeld rang him up to appear as a scientist in the trailer. We obviously have no idea, although it's possible Broderick has a project coming to Netflix and the streaming giant requested that he be included in the trailer to get him in people's minds? After all, a good number of guests on the upcoming season of Seinfeld's show either have a Netflix project on the way or a stand-up special on the platform, so it wouldn't be all that surprising.

Season 10 of Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee has to have been in development for a while, considering the series managed to do an episode prior to Jerry Lewis' death in August of 2017. Of course, the nature of the program means episodes can be filmed at various times, and it's not like there's a continuity between episodes that dictates each episode must air in the order it was filmed. This would be the second time in recent memory Jerry Seinfeld has been fortunate enough to film an episode of the show before a comedian's passing, as Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee aired an episode with Garry Shandling just a couple months before his death.

19 years after the 1990s stopped being a thing, TV viewers are reconnecting with several of the shows that made the decade so memorable, by way of revivals from Will & Grace, Roseanne, Murphy Brown, Twin Peaks and many more. The holy grail of such classic TV returns would be a new season of Seinfeld, though fans have learned to push aside such hopes, with Jerry Seinfeld himself always downplaying any chances for a comeback. But now, the tides have turned somewhat, and he has offered up the most optimism-inducing revival response yet.

I know I won't be the first to point out that Jerry Seinfeld's answer is extremely short and inconclusive, but let's all consider that this is still easily a step in the right direction for getting a Seinfeld revival off the ground. (Or the couch, as it were.) For years, people have been asking the internationally beloved comedian about bringing the "Show About Nothing" back to audiences that have increasingly poured time and energy into an abundance of nothingness in the years since the show left the air. But until now, nothing too positive had been said.

In the past, Jerry Seinfeld's reasoning for not bringing Seinfeld back has been largely similar to the reason why he wanted to end the show in the first place. Except for the series finale, the sitcom hadn't hit any rough patches, and Seinfeld wanted to bow out while still at the top of his game. And since 1998, his reasons for not wanting to do another season have boiled down to not wanting to mess with the legacy of the endlessly quotable show by coming up with something new that might fall flat. In the Twitter Era, TV viewers can showcase some hellaciously barbed personalities, so his point is sound.

Still, that's not how he answered things whenever he appeared on The Ellen Show to promote the upcoming tenth season of his now-Netflix series Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee. (Ellen DeGeneres appears in one of the episodes.) When the topic of TV revivals came up, he bemusedly guessed where the conversation was headed, but then gamely urged DeGeneres to continue down that line of thought before delivering his "It's possible," answer. You'd think he'd just want to avoid answering that question, especially on a popular daytime TV talk show, if he only intended to offer up his standard half-denial. So our hopes are rekindling.

Seinfeld co-mastermind Larry David hilariously took a post-modern route to a Seinfeld reunion by staging a fake one on his HBO comedy Curb Your Enthusiasm, which legitimately seemed like the only chance fans would get to see Jerry, George, Elaine and Kramer together again. But now that David has successfully brought HBO's Curb Your Enthusiasm back (and will keep doing so), is it possible that Jerry Seinfeld could be inspired to formulate some new ideas for the fab four?

For nine seasons, Jerry Seinfeld released episodes of his series Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee on Crackle without much legal trouble, but now that the series is heading for Season 10 at Netflix, that streak is ending. Seinfeld is being sued over his streaming series by Christian Charles, who is alleging the 63-year-old comedian actually nicked the concept idea from a pitch made to Seinfeld years ago. Charles is suing Seinfeld for a "Created By" credit on the series, as well as the financial compensation that he feels he deserves for years of lost profits.

Christian Charles claimed in the lawsuit that he first pitched the basis of the Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee idea to Jerry Seinfeld back in 2002, but the sitcom icon turned him down and said he wasn't interested in bringing that show to life. Charles then alleged Seinfeld changed his mind in 2011 and finally got back in touch, asking about the unscripted concept Charles had originally pitched. The lawsuit (via TMZ) also stated that Charles helped shoot the pilot for what eventually became Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, but that Seinfeld dumped him from the project when Charles attempted to secure ownership rights and compensation for the series.

Seinfeld's lawyer Orin Snyder released an official statement regarding Charles' claims and called the whole story "delusional."

The statement made by Seinfeld's lawyer might lead some to believe Christian Charles is just some creepster producer looking for a payday, but there are links between Charles and Jerry Seinfeld. Charles directed the Seinfeld-focused 2002 documentary Comedian, and he also has a producer credit on one Season 1 episode of Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee. Obviously, that's not enough to prove Charles came up with the idea for what Seinfeld's show became, but the fact that the producer was directing a feature with Seinfeld at the time he allegedly introduced the pitch is interesting, if nothing else.

As Jerry Seinfeld's lawyer Orin Snyder seems to imply in his statement though, it is timely that Christian Charles chose to raise a lawsuit right after the series started appearing on Netflix, even though Comedians in Cars has been running since 2012. Charles was almost definitely aware of the series back in its Crackle beginnings, given his producer credit in Season 1, so why not start the lawsuit then? Charles alleged that Seinfeld is now making $750,000 an episode of the Netflix series, which could result in a huge payday for Charles if the courts rule in his favor. So perhaps Seinfeld's expanded financial gain inspired the timing here.

No court date has been set for this disagreement, but Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee's previous seasons are currently available to stream on Netflix, and Season 10 is set to premiere later this year with guests such as Ellen DeGeneres and Jerry Lewis. Stand-up comedy is a genre that has produced a number of superstars over the years, but few have ever experienced the longevity of Jerry Seinfeld. Staying consistently active as a performer since the 1980s, he has clearly performed in front of a variety of different crowds over the years. However, he may have officially met his match, because Netflix has released a short video of him performing in front of House of Cards' Frank and Claire Underwood, and they are clearly not having any of it. If you have ever watched a single Jerry Seinfeld stand-up bit, you should pretty much immediately know what to expect. His "what's the deal?" shtick remains alive and well, and we still love it to this day. Taking a delightfully awkward approach to the stand-up format in the Oval Office, the quick clip shows the comedian (and sitcom giant) performing some of his typical bits for the decidedly uninterested Frank and Claire Underwood. After all, Frank is not much of a laugher; he does not have time for such trivial matters (make sure to read that last part in his charming southern accent).

As funny as this video is, it's not simply a one-off crossover between Seinfeld and House of Cards (although we would absolutely love that). The video also serves to promote Jerry Seinfeld's brand new Netflix comedy special, Jerry Before Seinfeld, which recently debuted on the streaming service. Unlike many specials of a similar ilk, Jerry Before Seinfeld is drenched in nostalgia, as it sees the comedian return to the club that provided him with his big break in the 1970s, and sees him combine new bits with some of his more well-known and beloved material.

Another thing worth noting about this social media post is the fact that it does not come from the main Netflix account; it was posted on the "Netflix is a Joke" account. The streaming giant has made a huge push to invest in stand-up comedy content over the course of the last year or so, and it has started establishing entire social channels specifically geared towards specials for comedy giants like Louis C.K., Dave Chappelle, and Amy Schumer. Stand-up has handily turned into a very notable genre that Netflix is thriving with (its success has even forced traditional networks like Comedy Central to rethink how they approach the comedy style), and the blending of someone like Jerry Seinfeld with the Underwoods just shows how big it has become.

When Jerry Seinfeld signed a deal with Netflix earlier this year, some of you may have started holding your breath for a return to the world of the legendary sitcom Seinfeld. Well, I have some bad news for you: it's time to exhale. The famed comedian was recently asked about a possible return of the great 1990s show, and he shut the door and locked it. Said Seinfeld,

"Pretty well" is certainly an understatement when you consider the fact that Seinfeld is unarguably one of the most successful shows of all time - but Jerry Seinfeld certainly makes a good point in this interview with Entertainment Tonight. He's essentially modifying the old expression, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it," but he's ultimately right: the show is amazing as it is in its nine seasons of existence, and there's no point trying to mess with that legacy just for fan service or a money making opportunity. Hell, that's exactly why the show came to an end in the first place.

Seinfeld fans certainly have no right to complain about these comments if not because we've already been blessed with one of the best TV reunions in history for the show. Larry David, Jerry Seinfeld, Julia Louis Dreyfus, Jason Alexander and Michael Richards did an absolutely amazing job in the reunion within a reunion for the seventh season of Curb Your Enthusiasm, and it even managed to provide us with the return of some of the most beloved, despised characters in television history:

While more Seinfeld isn't on the way any time soon, what is exciting is that Jerry Seinfeld seems to now be back in a big way. Via his aforementioned deal with Netflix, he has the new stand-up special/documentary Jerry Before Seinfeld, and he's also been working with the streaming company's Originals department developing scripted material. In short, it's a very exciting time to be a fan.

In the pantheon of classic sitcoms and popular TV shows from the ‘90s, there are arguably few that can compare to Seinfeld. The hit NBC comedy had a notoriously good run, and it became even more iconic for going out on its own terms. Of everything that the show did right, the cast of delightfully bizarre characters that it assembled has to rank near the top of the list. With that in mind, we have compiled a list of some of our favorite Seinfeld cast members to see what they've been up to since the show went off the air.

Jerry Seinfeld (Jerry Seinfeld)

Before Seinfeld propelled him to stardom in the 1990s, Jerry Seinfeld was already a well-established stand-up comedian. Following the end of the show's run, he returned to that corner of the entertainment world and continues to tour to this day, having also released one of the funniest Netflix stand-up comedy specials with 2020’s 23 Hours to Kill. The star and creator of Bee Movie has maintained a strong relationship with the streaming platform, which also houses his hit reality show, Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, and upcoming Netflix movie, Unfrosted: The Pop-Tart Story, which he also co-wrote and directed.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus (Elaine Benes)

Of the four core members of the cast, Julia Louis-Dreyfus (whom you may have forgotten was on SNL) arguably did the best job of sidestepping the "Seinfeld Curse" as an actor with her Emmy-winning roles on CBS’s The New Adventures of Old Christine and in HBO's Veep cast. Since the biting political satire ended, her popularity and acclaim has only continued to grow with parts in movies like Pixar’s Onward and her role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, whom she will reprise in the Thunderbolts movie in 2025. The Mark Twain Prize for American Humor recipient also has an upcoming A24 movie called Tuesday.

Michael Richards (Cosmo Kramer)

Years after his attempt to follow Seinfeld with his own self-titled NBC sitcom, Michael Richards retreated from the public eye following an unfortunate incident in 2007 in which he yelled racial slurs at loud audience members while performing stand-up. He has since made sporadic appearances in film and television roles, such as on TV Land’s short-lived comedy, Kirstie, a 2019 rom-com called Faith, Hope & Love, and even appearing on Curb Your Enthusiasm as himself to spoof his infamous incident. His stint as Jerry Seinfeld's eccentric, scheming neighbor, Kramer, in many ways remains the Emmy-winner’s most iconic character to this day.

Jason Alexander (George Costanza)

In the years since Jason Alexander achieved fame with some hilarious moments as George Costanza on Seinfeld, he has gone on to a number of roles in film, television, and theater. Many of the most notable are voice acting roles, such as Sy Borgman on Max's hit DC TV show, Harley Quinn, from Netflix’s animated film, Leo, as Jayda’s Dad, or Hulu’s History of the World, Part II cast as Maurice Cheeks. The Tony winner’s next projects include a comedy called Stealing Pulp Fiction and Anthony and Joe Russo’s upcoming action flick, The Electric State.

Wayne Knight (Newman)

Hello, Newman. Outside of his best known role as Kramer’s buddy and Jerry’s nemesis, Wayne Knight popped up in a few of the best ‘90s movies, such as Jurassic Park and Basic Instinct, during Seinfeld’s run. Following his years creating some hilarious moments on the sitcom as Newman, the actor found a starring part on another NBC comedy (3rd Rock from the Sun) as well as many great voice acting roles, like Al in Toy Story 2 and “Gang Boss” in Kung Fu Panda. His incredibly eclectic career also includes The Punisher: War Zone, Netflix’s Narcos, a background part in the Coen Brothers' Hail, Caesar!, and playing himself alongside Paul Hogan in 2020’s The Very Excellent Mr. Dundee.

Larry David (Various)

The original actor to play Newman (only as the voice) was Seinfeld’s co-creator, Larry David, who actually played several different characters on the series – the most famous being New York Yankees owner George Steinbrenner. However, the comedian’s most famous role to date, overall, is a fictionalized version of himself that appears most frequently on Curb Your Enthusiasm (which is airing its final season on HBO), but has also made appearances on the likes of Entourage and Hannah Montana. David would also return to SNL (for which he had a brief writing gig) with a spot-on Bernie Sanders impression, and is also known for movies like HBO’s Clear History and the Farrelly Brothers’ The Three Stooges.

Patrick Warburton (David Puddy)

Patrick Warburton – who had a hilarious Seinfeld stint as Elaine’s delightfully deadpan, on-and-off boyfriend, David Puddy – is known for his many great voice acting roles, such as Kronk in The Emperor’s New Groove, Joe Swanson from Family Guy, a part in the aforementioned Bee Movie and even Buzz Lightyear in the Toy Story characters animated spin-off series, Buzz Lightyear of Star Command. He also became a prolific character actor in the live-action medium, too, as the star of his own TV comedies – namely the first live-action adaptation of The Tick and  Rules of Engagement, as a TV husband constantly put in his place by his wife. He also went on to playLemony Snicket on Netflix's A Series of Unfortunate Events TV show and some of his upcoming credits include a comedy movie called Christmas Telethon and a horror-comedy called The Unearthly.

Bryan Cranston (Dr. Tim Whatley)

You probably need no introduction to Bryan Cranston, who was best known as Dr. Tim Whatley on Seinfeld before joining the Malcolm in the Middle cast as Hal. He followed that with his four-time Emmy-winning role as Walter White on the Breaking Bad cast, which propelled him to a level of stardom that earned him Oscar-nominated roles like the title subject of Trumbo and parts in big budget films like the voice of Zordon in 2017's Power Rangers. In addition to his return to TV on Showtime’s Your Honor, Cranston starred in a few Wes Anderson movies (Isle of Dogs and Asteroid City), played a villain in Argylle, and is reprising his role as Li in the upcoming 2024 movie, Kung Fu Panda 4.

Steve Hytner (Kenny Bania)

After becoming a Seinfeld fan-favorite for portraying Jerry's stand-up comedy rival, Steve Hytner retired the Ovaltine jokes, but has stayed active as a TV performer, such as with a starring role on the short-lived sitcom, Working, and subsequent TV guest spots on The Goldbergs, Silicon Valley, and Solar Opposites. Hytner’s most recent feature-length credits include 2012’s Fred 3: Camp Fred, 2016’s Bad Vegan and the Teleportation Machine, and Extracurricular Activities from 2019. Every time he's been gold, Jerry! Gold!

Richard Fancy (Mr. Lippman)

Out of all of Elaine Benes’ insane bosses, one of the best-known and most consistently hilarious is Mr. Lippman (of Pendant Publishing fame), played by Richard Fancy (previously of Tango & Cash and It’s Garry Shandling’s Show fame). Some of his most notable post-Seinfeld credits include Being John Malkovich, 2004’s The Girl Next Door, and a couple Rob Zombie movies (2007’s Halloween and The Lords of Salem). That’s not even counting his small screen accomplishments, such as 49 episodes of General Hospital, a recurring role on CBS’ The District, and guest spots on Ray Donovan and Grace and Frankie, to name just a few.

John O'Hurley (J. Peterman)

Another one of Elaine Benes' eccentric Seinfeld bosses – the overly exuberant J. Peterman – is one of the best-known roles of actor John O'Hurley. His other most famous live-action gig is hosting Family Feud from 2006 until 2010, when he chose to leave under the belief that the game show became less “family-friendly,” as he told Fox News later. He has lent his distinct, golden voice to memorable roles such as King Neptune on SpongeBob Squarepants, Roger Doofenschmirtz on Phineas & Ferb, and Hades on Monster High.

Phil Morris (Jackie Chiles)

A Seinfeld side character whose planned spin-off was unfortunately cancelled is Kramer’s lawyer, Jackie Chiles – an “outrageous” Johnnie Cochrane parody played by Phil Morris, whose most notable previous credits included Star Trek III: The Search for Spock, 35 episodes of Mission: Impossible, and The Young and the Restless as, coincidentally, a law student. After the sitcom’s end, the actor voiced Dr. Sweet in Disney’s Atlantis: The Lost Empire – one of his many, many voice acting roles, including a dog in 2023’s Strays, most recently. One of his most recent live-action roles was on Doom Patrol as Silas Stone – one of the many, many DC characters he has played, including Vandal Savage in the animated Justice League series.  

Danny Woodburn (Mickey Abbott)

If Kramer was not hanging with the rest of the main four, Newman, or Bob Sacamano, he was with Mickey Abbott, which was essentially the breakthrough role for comedian Danny Woodburn. The disability rights activist went on to have a starring role on the short-lived series Conan the Adventurer, was on 26 episodes of Passions as a “Demon Elf,” and landed recent guest roles on shows like Disney+’s Willow and Billions on Showtime. His most famous movie roles come from Jingle All the Way, an uncredited part in 2009’s Watchmen, all of the Santa Paws movies, and 2014’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles as Splinter.

Larry Thomas (The Soup Nazi)

Easily the most iconic food moments on Seinfeld come courtesy of Yev “The Soup Nazi” Kassem – easily the most recognizable role of Larry Thomas. The actor has since paid homage to his memorable, Emmy-nominated guest appearance in countless ways, either in person yelling “No soup for you!” at fans, sending messages on Cameo, or with his Scrubs cameo as himself. Outside of that, Thomas has appeared in movies like Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery and TV shows like Drake & Josh and Arrested Development.

Jerry Stiller (Frank Costanza)

Already Hollywood and comedy royalty at the time he was cast in the recurring role of George Costanza’s father, Frank, Jerry Stiller went on to land a starring role on The King of Queens as Carrie’s father, Arthur. During those years, he would also work more frequently with his son, Ben Stiller – such as when he reprised Maury Ballstein in the 2016’s Zoolander 2. The 2016 sequel would become his last acting credit before Stiller passed away in 2020 at the age of 92.

Estelle Harris (Estelle Costanza)

Also no longer with us is the actor who played George’s mother, Estelle Costanza: Estelle Harris, who passed away in 2022. In terms of sheer numbers, there's an argument to be made that she became one of the most successful Seinfeld alumni, having voiced Mrs. Potato Head in three Toy Story movies, most notably. More of Estelle Harris’ best gigs include 2003’s Brother Bear and the 2014 music biopic, CBGB.

While not all of our favorite Seinfeld cast members are with us any longer, we are thankful to have been able to see this ensemble as “masters of their domain” on one of the greatest TV comedies of all time.

While Netflix can most readily boast about its massive lineup of original TV shows, the company has spent the past couple of years making a huge push into the stand-up comedy realm by bringing in some of the biggest comedians of the modern era. Jerry Seinfeld is one such entertainer, and we now have the first clips from his first big Netflix special, and it looks like Jerry Before Seinfeld will offer longtime fans a lot of familiar material, as it covers his pre-TV years. See what I mean about hearing familiar jokes? As the special's name implies, Jerry Before Seinfeld will partly center on those pre-NBC years when Jerry Seinfeld was just kicking it around New York (and other parts of the country) as an observational comic. But it'll even go beyond that, as viewers will get a chance to check out the many, many legal pads that Seinfeld has been writing jokes in since 1975; apparently they contain every joke he's written since that time. Meanwhile, I have trouble finding socks that I just took off my feet. Maybe that's why they're filled with such hate.

The legal pad jokes obviously show up in the clip above, and Jerry Before Seinfeld will also showcase some of the comedian's childhood videos, which will presumably show him playing with friends' toys after they've fallen asleep following a big meal. Other never-before-seen material will also be seen from Seinfeld's early career, and it'll be interesting to try and pick out the joke kernels that would eventually become Seinfeld's staged segments, as well as any potential story concepts.

But this is a comedy special after all, and not a documentary, and the through-line performance will see Jerry Seinfeld taking the stage at the famed New York City venue The Comic Strip, which played a big role in getting his career of the ground. Check out another clip below.

Thankfully, especially for fans who might not be interested in watching retreads of classic jokes, this is far from the only project that Jerry Seinfeld is working on with Netflix, as the pair teamed up for a lucrative overall deal that should see the comedian developing other projects for the streaming service beyond just stand-up specials. Our fingers are crossed that Larry David gets involved as well.

In celebrating the first official footage from Jerry Before Seinfeld, Netflix started up new social media accounts specifically tied to its stand-up comedy. The Instagram account is the best though, considering how the posts are laid out to look like a big poster.

A comedy special about a lot more than nothing, Jerry Before Seinfeld will bring the stand-up icon to Netflix for the first time starting on Tuesday, September 19, at 12:01 a.m. PT.
