Glen Powell has played everything from a storm chaser to a fighter pilot to a football player to a hit man, and for his latest role in the upcoming A24 movie How to Make a Killing, it looks like he’s returning to his murderous ways. Critics saw the film ahead of its release on the 2026 movie calendar, in which Powell’s Becket Redfellow goes after the inheritance he thinks he’s owed after being disowned at birth by his disgustingly wealthy family, so what are they saying about the revenge thriller?

How to Make a Killing stars an ensemble cast, including Margaret Qualley and Jessica Henwick as Becket’s childhood friend and girlfriend, respectively, as well as those who make up the Redfellows standing in the way of his fortune: Bill Camp, Zach Woods, Topher Grace and Ed Harris, to name a few. According to Alexander Mooney of Slant, the humanity in these characters gives a grim sense of irony to Becket’s plight. The critic scores the movie 3 stars out of 4, writing:

Previously titled Huntington, Glen Powell’s dark comedy is “watchably weird,” according to Owen Gleiberman of Variety, who writes that its take on the depravity of greed keeps it afloat. The critic continues:

Jacob Oller of AV Club writes that despite the many different roles Glen Powell has played, this movie yet again shows him as smirking, quippy and strikingly put together. Add to that the script's loose grasp of the haves and have-nots and inability to find the tonal balance between outlandish and self-serious, and the critic can’t grade it higher than a C. Oller says:

Ouch! Although IndieWire’s Kate Erbland also gives it a C, saying the film lacks the fun required to pull off such a kill-the-rich dark comedy. The critic attributes this to two missteps: First, the voiceover narration makes the film exposition-heavy, depriving us of what should be the most deliciously devious scenes, and secondly, Glen Powell isn’t believable as a rage-driven bad guy, especially when the director doesn’t seem able to decide whether we should want to root for him or not. Erbland continues:

Kristy Puchko of Mashable feels Glen Powell was miscast, as he’s unable to match the humor of the ensemble around him. Also, he’s playing an underdog but has the suavity of a leading man, Puchko says, and his thinly written character comes off as “bland.” After seeing so many compelling eat-the-rich comedies in the past few years, How to Make a Killing is tame by comparison, the critic says:

This is a tough one to call, as critics are split right down the middle on Rotten Tomatoes, giving How to Make a Killing 50% on the Tomatometer. If you want to check out Glen Powell’s latest role amongst a killer supporting cast, this dark comedy revenge thriller is in theaters as of Friday, February 20.

We’re still a couple of months away from the official start of spooky season, but there are plenty of upcoming horror movies and thrillers to keep you uncomfortable during your trip to the theater. Director Tilman Singer's Cuckoo is among those, and according to critics who have screened the movie ahead of its August 9 release date, it might be one of the stranger theatrical experiences you’ll have this year.

Cuckoo stars Hunter Schafer, who has accepted multiple other roles as we wait for the highly anticipated Euphoria Season 3. In this movie, she plays Gretchen, an angsty teen forced to move to the German Alps with her father (Marton Csokas), his new wife (Jessica Henwick) and their young daughter to live at a resort run by Dan Stevens’ mysterious Herr König. Let’s see what critics are saying.

Richard Roeper of the Chicago Sun-Times rates it 3 out of 4 stars, praising Hunter Schafer’s first performance in a leading role as “funny, empathetic, powerful and resolute.” Of the movie overall, the critic says:

Adam Graham of the Detroit News gives Cuckoo a "B," calling the movie a “trippy, deranged, time-glitching mind-bender” that ratchets up the crazy and manages to keep viewers absorbed, even though it doesn’t always make sense. Graham continues:

Lindsey Bahr of the Associated Press gives it 2.5 stars out of 4, saying that while she finds the movie’s big reveals a little “underwhelming,” this project from writer/director Tilman Singer is well worth the watch. Dan Stevens especially impresses with a performance that’s described as “wonderfully sinister” and “off-kilter.” Rarely is it a bad thing when a horror leans into style, Bahr writes, and Cuckoo fully commits. The critic continues:

Reuben Baron of Looper rates the “supremely strange” movie 6 out of 10, with the critic struggling to decipher the film’s two big secrets to determine what happens and what it means (if anything). In the end, the critic is left with “mixed and neutral” impressions of Cuckoo, writing:

Travis Hopson of Punch Drunk Critics says Tilman Singer delivers on the title, with many different meanings of “cuckoo” making their way into the “wildly incoherent” flick. While the momentum stalls in the second act, according to the critic, the final stretch delivers “maximum freakishness.” Hopson writes:

While many critics express confusion and uncertainty about what exactly they experienced, their general impressions appear to be positive. Overall Cuckoo has been declared Certified Fresh with a 79% critics rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Benoit Blanc's accent in Knives Out was originally supposed to be a "light Southern drawl" as Rian Johnson put it, but now it has turned into one of the campiest, most memorable accents on the silver screen, in my opinion. Daniel Craig's smooth southern accent and eccentric vocabulary are incredibly fun to impersonate, and I know I can't help but try to mimic him whenever I watch these mysteries. Now, the cast of Glass Onion has been tasked with attempting their own take on Benoit's accent, and lucky for us we've been graced with a wonderful video of it. 

In this glorious video from Still Watching Netflix, Leslie Odom Jr., Kate Hudson, Madelyn Cline and Jessica Henwick each try their hand at impersonating the Southern detective. They take turns saying some of Benoit’s best lines, and they try to break down the intricacies of the accent Daniel Craig does throughout the movies. While you can see Kathryn Hahn do the iconic accent in the movie, you can watch these other four castmates attempt the signature Southern drawl here:  

Both Hudson and Odom Jr. note that they had no time to practice the accents. However, they gave it their all and really tried to nail down Benoit’s tone and Southern charm. They really enjoyed impersonating the detective by way of the line: 

Following that fun interaction, all four cast members get hung up trying to figure out how exactly Mr. Blanc pronounced one of the products associated with one of the fabulous name-drops in the movie. That word was “kombucha,” “Jared Leto’s hard kombucha” to be exact.  

In the end, the cast decided who did the best impression, and Hudson made the executive call that Odom Jr. had the best Benoit voice considering his extensive background in theater. I’d honestly say Henwick did the best Southern accent out of the bunch, especially at the beginning of the video when she nailed the line:

I thought that was a wonderful line to pick, and the producers of the video definitely chose some memorable one-liners. However, I would have loved to hear the cast attempt Benoit’s epic monologue that dove-tails into one of the biggest moments in Glass Onion. It would have also been delightful to hear them all say Halle Berry’s name with the enthusiasm that Blanc uses in the movie. 

Lucky for us, Rian Johnson has been open about making more Knives Out mysteries. That means the iconic detective will return to solve another murder with a different cast, and hopefully, we'll get more hilarious impressions from A-list actors too.

Also, while you anticipate Johnson’s next whodunnit, be sure to work on your Southern drawl so you’re ready to ace more of Beniot Blanc's legendary one-liners. 

Growing up in an interracial family can be challenging. Because a person doesn't belong to one culture entirely, it’s common for them to feel like an imposter in their own skin. Jessica Henwick, of the Glass Onion cast, not only deals with this struggle in her personal life but has navigated it further as a mixed race actress in Hollywood, as she recently explained to us. 

The 30-year-old actress is half Singaporean-Chinese on her mother’s side and has an English father. She has certainly found her footing in the industry big time over the years, between finding roles in Game Of Thrones, Star Wars and even The Matrix Resurrections alongside Keanu Reeves. Still, success can be overwhelming, especially when you're a person of color and are trying to forge your identity. During an interview with CinemaBlend’s own Law Sharma, the rising star opened up about her own experiences as a biracial woman, saying this: 

The entertainment industry has been historically non-inclusive but, in recent years, progress has been made, not only in Hollywood but across the pond as well. As Jessica Henwick recalled, it was initially tough for her to get any kind of role because she belonged to a minority and, even when she did get her foot in the door, her biracial background served as a somewhat of an obstacle. Despite dealing with some roadblocks, Henwick has made her way in the business. As the actress continued: 

Despite the industry being difficult to break into, the star is certainly carving her own path and continues to be part of major franchises. She was even a Marvel character in Netflix’s Iron Fist series, despite it never officially becoming part of the MCU canon.

In Glass Onion, Jessica Henwick plays the role of Peg, the assistant to Kate Hudson’s former supermodel character, Birdie Jay. She stars alongside Daniel Craig, Edward Norton, Janelle Monáe, Kathryn Hahn, Leslie Odom Jr. and Dave Bautista. In a rare move for a streaming-based film, it recently hit theaters for a limited week engagement and made an impressive $13 million and could have made a lot more money with a typical theatrical run. However, audiences who missed out on showtimes will have to catch it with a Netflix subscription when it drops on December 23. 

The Knives Out sequel has been welcomed with high praise from critics and audiences. CinemaBlend’s own Mike Reyes giving it a perfect 5 out of 5 in our Glass Onion review, claiming that writer/director Rian Johnson tops the previous Benoit Blanc mystery.

When it comes to Jessica Henwick, she has a slew of big projects to get excited for. She’s set to star in the 2023 thriller The Royal Hotel alongside Julia Garner and Hugo Weaving as well as a horror movie called Cuckoo, which is led by Euphoria’s Hunter Schafer. Henwick’s continued success is just further proof that people of mixed race can find opportunities in Hollywood, and it may subtly remind many struggling with their own racial identities that they belong not only in the entertainment space but in all facets of society.

Anthony and Joe Russo know a thing or two about working with large ensemble casts made of up talented actors — just look at their work on four of the best Marvel movies and it becomes all the more clear. And now it looks like the filmmaking siblings have pulled off the impossible once again with the 2022 Netflix movie The Gray Man.

With names like Ryan Gosling, Chris Evans, and Ana de Armas front and center of the spy thriller book-to-film adaptation, it’s safe to say The Gray Man cast is one remarkable bunch of actors. But while you are familiar with the the top three billed names, you might be wondering where you’ve seen the rest of the cast before. Well, wonder no more…

Ryan Gosling (Court Gentry)

At the center of The Gray Man is Ryan Gosling’s Count Gentry, aka Sierra Six, a CIA black ops operative who becomes the target of an international manhunt after uncovering information others within his agency would like to keep under wraps.

Whether he’s singing and dancing his way into Academy Awards consideration with La La Land or warming up even the coldest of hearts in The Notebook, Gosling has long been one of the most recognizable actors in Hollywood. And with incredible performances in the likes of Drive, Blade Runner 2049, and dozens of others, it’s easy to see that Gosling’s best movies are also some of the crowning achievements of the past two decades.

Chris Evans (Lloyd Hansen)

Hot on the trail of the world’s most wanted spy in The Gray Man is unhinged and dangerous assassin Lloyd Hansen, portrayed by Chris Evans.

Despite being best known for playing the fan-favorite hero Captain America throughout the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Evans has proven on more than one occasion that he is well suited to play the bad guy. In addition to the MCU films, Chris Evans movie credits include Snowpiercer, Gifted, Knives Out and Scott Pilgrim vs. The World.

Ana de Armas (Dani Miranda)

Although just about everyone within the CIA wants to capture Count Gentry, Ana de Armas’ Dani Miranda is one of the few agents willing to help the former decorated operative.

The Gray Man is marks the second time de Armas has worked with Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans in a movie, as she starred alongside Gosling in Blade Runner 2049 and Evans in Knives Out. The actress, who has a long list of great movies herself, will next appear in Netflix’s NC-17-rated Marilyn Monroe movie Blonde in September.

Jessica Henwick (Suzanne Brewer)

Taking on the role of the ruthless CIA senior official Suzanne Brewer in The Gray Man is Jessica Henwick, whose career has taken her the galaxy far, far away, Westeros, the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and the Matrix over the years.

In 2015, Henwick played X-Wing pilot Jessika Pava in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the same year she played one of the Sand Snakes on Game of Thrones. Since then, Henwick has landed roles on shows like Iron Fist, Blade Runner: Black Lotus, and Moley, as well as movies like Underwater and The Matrix Resurrections as franchise newcomer Bugs. She’s next set to appear in the upcoming Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery.

Rege-Jean Page (Denny Carmichael)

Orchestrating the plan to capture Count Gentry in The Gray Man is Regé-Jean Page’s CIA Director Lenny Carmichael.

No stranger when it comes to Netflix productions, Page became one of the most talked about actors thanks to his steamy role on Bridgerton Season 1 before departing the historical drama. And while it isn’t known if he’ll ever return to the Netflix series, Page is slated to appear in the upcoming Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves movie. And then there is also all that buzz around if he will or will not be the next man to call himself “Bond, James Bond.”

Wagner Moura (Lazlo Sosa)

Wagner Moura shows up in The Gray Man as Lazlo Sosa, a counterfeiter who provides some assistance for Ryan Gosling’s character while on the run.

Another actor on The Gray Man cast who has history with Netflix, Moura earned a Golden Globe nomination and other accolades for his portrayal of Pablo Escobar on the first two seasons of popular crime drama series Narcos. Moura has also appeared in movies like Elysium, Elite Squad, and multiple others over the course of the past three decades. 

Billy Bob Thornton (Donald Fitzroy)

Billy Bob Thornton plays the role of Donald Fitzroy, the CIA official behind the Sierra program and the man believed to know the location of the wanted Six.

The list of Thornton’s best movies features one extraordinary performance after another in films like Sling Blade, Monster’s Ball, Primary Colors, Tombstone and more. And Thornton also knows a thing or two about working alongside large casts in the likes of Armageddon, Friday Night Lights, and Fargo.

Julia Butters (Claire Fitzroy)

Taking on the role of Claire Fitzroy, the niece of the Billy Bob Thornton’s CIA official is young actress Julia Butters.

Best known for her star-making performance as child actress Trudi Frazer in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Butters has also appeared in movies like A Family Man, and 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi throughout her career. Her TV credits include American Housewife, Transparent, and I Think You Should Leave. Butters is set to appear in Steven Spielberg’s autobiographical drama The Fabelmans later on in 2022.

Dhanush (Avik San)

Tamil superstar Dhanush shows up in The Gray Man as Avik San, one the numerous assassins who attempt to take out Count Gentry.

Dhanush is one of the biggest stars in Tamil cinema, also known as Kollywood. The Indian actor has appeared in dozens of movies throughout his 20-year career including titles like Thulluvadho Ilamai, Thiruda Thirudi, and Pudhupettai. And as the Russo brothers told Variety, we could be seeing more of the actor if The Gray Man turns into a franchise.

Alfre Woodard (Margaret Cahill)

And then there is Alfre Woodard who appears on The Gray Man cast as Margaret Cahill, a former CIA chief who helps out the on-the-run fugitive.

Woodard previously worked with the Russos on Captain America: Civil War (she played the grieving mother who approached Tony Stark at MIT), but that was just a small part of her career. Over the years, Woodard has won a Golden Globe for her role in Miss Evers’ Boys, multiple Primetime Emmy Award for L.A. Law and The Practice, and received recognition for movies like Cross Creek, 12 Years a Slave, and Primal Fear.

These are just some of the faces that fill the screen throughout The Gray Man, which is streaming on Netflix as of July 22, 2022.

There are all varieties of cinematic delights scheduled to be released in 2022, but few have our curiosity gripped quite as firmly as Rian Johnson’s Knives Out 2. Audiences fell in love with Daniel Craig’s Detective Benoit Blanc in the upcoming sequel’s 2019 predecessor, watching with delight as he solved the murder of legendary mystery author Harlan Thrombey, and fans around the world are over the moon with anticipation waiting to see how he will approach his next case.

Sadly, at this point we don’t have much to go on when it comes to details about the circumstances that require Benoit Blanc’s keen insight in Knives Out 2, but today we did get our very first look at the film’s suspicious ensemble cast.

Netflix unveiled the exciting sneak peek at the movie within a trailer previewing their 2022 slate this morning, and the brief glimpse at the new Rian Johnson film features a look at the characters played by Kathryn Hahn, Jessica Henwick, Kate Hudson, Leslie Odom Jr., Madelyn Cline, and Dave Bautista. And while we don’t even know their names, their appearances alone leave quite a first impression – and we figured that we would have a bit of fun speculating about their individual vibes based on the eight second clip.

Kathryn Hahn

It’s been confirmed that Knives Out 2 is taking place in Greece, but Kathryn Hahn’s character has the look of a person who would be much more comfortable on a getaway weekend in Atlantic City parked at a slot machine. If I had to put money on anybody getting seasick as a result of the boat ride that the cast is about to take, all of my money would be on her. I get the sense that she doesn’t get out much, making this European trip a big splurge, and she’s definitely planning on bringing a snow globe back home as a souvenir for her favorite nephew. I can already tell why Hahn was excited to be a part of this project.

Jessica Henwick

The character played by Jessica Henwick in Knives Out 2 is a complicated read. My first instinct is to identify her as a slacker, if not especially because she is clearly choosing sartorial comfort over trying to impress – but also because of the vape. What makes her attitude a bit difficult to surmise, however, is the Louis Vuitton garment bag that is slung over her shoulder. This leaves two possibilities in my mind: 1) She has recently become wealthy and is getting used to life among the upper crust, or 2) She grew up with money and resents it, but can fit in among the wealthy when it’s called for. I also admittedly can’t rule out that she is carrying the dress for…

Kate Hudson

As presented, both Kathryn Hahn and Jessica Henwick’s character look a touch out of place for a fancy European trip, but that’s most definitely not how one would describe the appearance of Kate Hudson in Knives Out 2. Fashion and posture suggest that this is an individual who may vacation as a hobby. Among this group, I can also see the possibility of her overly flexing her sophistication and perhaps get alienated from her fellow travelers. Based on Benoit Blanc’s relationship with the money-grubbing Thrombey family in the first movie, I can envision the detective not exactly exhibiting a great deal of patience when it comes to dealing with her.

Leslie Odom Jr.

Looking at Leslie Odom Jr.’s costume compared to everyone else’s, I can’t help but notice a standout detail: he’s dressed for the wrong season. Everyone else is in summer gear, wearing light clothes and protection from the sun, but he’s the only one wearing a heavy long sleeve shirt and a hat that doesn’t offer any glare deterrence. It’s also hard not to notice that his body language is quite defensive, his arms clasped behind his back – but that may very well just be a natural response when you’re the only Black man around during some form of criminal investigation.

Madelyn Cline

Looking at Madelyn Cline’s Knives Out 2 character, I’m a bit torn: I can’t tell if her speaking voice is going to be more akin to Marisa Tomei in My Cousin Vinny or Alicia Silverstone in Clueless. I can easily imagine both, though the way she drops her wrists in the brief clip makes me lean toward the former. Either way, this is a person with a strong coastal accent. She’s not the polite society definition of classy, but you get the sense that in her mind she thinks she is, and taking a vacation in Greece is all about that image. She may try and forge a bond with Kate Hudson’s character, but I don’t foresee the effort being reciprocated.

Dave Bautista

The vibes of the first four characters discussed make me think that they are all traveling alone, but there is something about the aesthetic coordination between Madelyn Cline and Dave Bautista in the footage that for whatever reason puts them together as a couple in my mind. I also can’t help but think that wearing an animal print jacket with no shirt requires a bold personality, and salmon pants on a person that size demonstrates powerful confidence. I predict that there is going to be a good amount of finger pointing at him when it comes to the crime committed in the plot (which has not yet been revealed), but of the line-up here I find myself thinking he is the least suspicious looking. This is a man with nothing to hide.

In addition to Kathryn Hahn, Jessica Henwick, Kate Hudson, Leslie Odom Jr., Madelyn Cline, and Dave Bautista, Knives Out 2 also stars Edward Norton, Janelle Monáe, and Ethan Hawke, and while we haven’t gotten a first look at their characters yet, we’re exceptionally curious to discover how they’ll fit into the ensemble with the previewed collection of weirdos.

While the exciting sequel does not yet have an official release date, filming wrapped last summer, it has been confirmed that it will be out on Netflix in the latter half of this year. Over the years, Keanu Reeves has become more than just the actor who played Neo in The Matrix movies; he’s also a Hollywood legend and pop culture icon these days. So as you can imagine, the young leads on the set of the latest installment, The Matrix Resurrections, had their fan moments as they worked with the actor on his first Matrix film in almost 20 years. Jessica Henwick, who worked closely with Reeves as Bugs, recently shared her experience with him. 

Jessica Henwick has seen her share of big-budget scenarios, from appearing in a Star Wars movie to being part of Game of Thrones and Netflix’s Marvel universe. The actress said the following to The Hollywood Reporter about having a “fan-girl” moment over Keanu Reeves: 

Jessica Henwick apparently doesn’t usually geek out over the famous actors she has shared the screen with, but apparently Keanu Reeves was an exception. It does help that Reeves’ Neo is a bit of a celebrity within the universe to her character of Bugs, as she shared. That way the actress' reacted to Reeves could also bleed into her performance on camera. 

As Jessica Henwick shared, when it comes down to it, Keanu Reeves is “just a normal guy” with whom she had normal conversations about their days and favorite foods. It must be especially wild to engage in a typical colleague relationship with someone who has been memed, quoted and the subject of many crushes and fantasies. 

The 29-year-old actress also shared that Keanu Reeves' “mystique” as a person is very much a real thing, despite her calling him a “normal” guy. The actor is notably a private person and a man of few words, and in the spirit of that, she kept it intact while answering a question about this aspect of the actor’s personality. 

The Matrix Resurrections hit theaters and HBO Max in late December, just as Spider-Man: No Way Home was becoming the highest-grossing pandemic-era movie. For a movie reportedly made on a $190 million budget, its commercial release was rather unsuccessful, claiming close to $141 million in worldwide box office earnings. The movie divided critics and audiences alike in how it was received, taking home a B- grade by moviegoers, per CinemaScore.

Spoilers for Marvel Studios’ Hawkeye lie ahead. 

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is continuing to grow, as it almost feels like new characters are being added on a weekly basis. 2021 alone has seen the franchise add new power players like Yelena Belova, Shang-Chi and the Eternals. Of course, the interconnected world is also making fans happy by reintroducing characters that previously dwelled within Netflix’s small-screen Marvel world. With this growing trend, Iron Fist alum Jessica Henwick has shared thoughts on potentially reprising her role as Colleen Wing. And believe it or not, it appears she’s not fully into the idea. 

Jessica Henwick made her debut as the fighter and entrepreneur on the first season of Iron Fist, which premiered in 2017. From there, she also appeared as the character on Luke Cage and on the crossover miniseries The Defenders. Henwick’s portrayal was praised, with many fans and critics viewing her as a bright spot within the panned martial arts-centric show. The actress revealed that she is tempted to return to the role but that there’s one thing that's making her hesitant:

As she alluded to during her interview with Syfy Wire, the Netflix series ended with Danny Rand transferring the powers of the Iron Fist to Colleen, who can then channel the power through her sword. It was a cool ending, and one that certainly had some fans eager to see her further adventures. It’s honestly hard to deny that Wing would be a cool character to have in the MCU proper. The character (and the actress herself) would be a strong addition, and it would be fun to see her mix it up with other heroes, especially martial arts masters like Shang-Chi.

One can understand Jessica Henwick’s hesitation to return, though. Her beloved heroine was left in a perfect place, one in which she became her ideal self. Any further adventures would surely put the character through the wringer, as has been the case for other popular Marvel characters in recent years. (Peter Parker, for instance, went on a journey in Spider-Man: Now Way Home.)

Whether or not Colleen Wing returns remains to be seen, but there’s a firm chance Marvel Studios could, at the very least, reach out to the Game of Thrones alum about the possibility. Thanks to the company’s willingness to bring back the Netflix stars, fans can look forward to seeing Charlie Cox’s Daredevil in the cinematic universe. And his infamous antagonist, Wilson Fisk/Kingpin (played by Vincent D’Onofrio) has also been revealed as the Big Bad of Hawkeye. 

The lukewarm reception to Danny Rand makes it hard to say whether the character will ever be brought back. However, I’d say that there’s hope for Colleen Wing, given how compelling she is as a character. Of course, only time will tell if the studio makes an offer to Jessica Henwick – and if she’d actually agree to return.

In just over a week, fans of The Matrix will get to finally see something that they likely never expected to be able to see. The Matrix: Resurrections will give us a fourth movie in the franchise, but at this point it’s still hard to tell just what sort of movie this will be, or how it will fit into the larger franchise. Another question we now have, that we were not expecting to be asking, was whether or not Tom Hardy will be appearing, because it’s quite possible.

As has been covered previously, Venom: Let There Be Carnage, was filming in San Francisco at the same time that The Matrix: Resurrections was. The two productions were so close that the Venom sequel actually took advantage of helicopters being used on the Matrix movie for its own production. It turns out the references may go both ways, as Venom himself, Tom Hardy might be visible in a crowd scene in the new Matrix movie as well.

The Matrix: Resurrections co-star Jessica Henwick recently told Den of Geek that she met Tom Hardy while filming her movie, and that there’s a scene in the film where the two of them, with Henwick out of character, are running around in the background. Although at this point it’s unclear if the shot of them is in the movie. Henwick explains... 

It sounds like Jessica Henwick put herself in the background of scenes often enough that she will almost certainly be in some of the San Francisco city scenes, what we don’t know is if the shot of her and Tom Hardy made it in. And depending on how the scenes were shot, it may be quite difficult to recognize them even if they’re in the movie. 

One the one hand, if there are shots of Jessica Henwick in the background while she’s also playing her character of Bugs in the movie, that might seem a little strange. On the other hand, it is The Matrix so actually that idea sort of works in its own way. 

The Matrix: Resurrections will hit theaters and HBO Max on December 22. If you like you can go searching for Tom Hardy in the background, but it seems likely that the new Matrix movie will have a lot going on in the foreground that will require attention.  

Mystery is a key portion of what makes The Matrix film series work as a mind-bending action blowout. Returning to that franchise for the first time in almost 20 years, co-writer/director Lana Wachowski still has that understanding in her work, thanks to the fact that aside from Keanu Reeves’ Neo and Carrie-Anne Moss’ Trinity, we don’t know that much about the new cast involved. That’s about to change, as this winter’s The Matrix Resurrections may have confirmed three mysterious character identities, as well as given a huge hint to another actor’s potential role, and this could be massive.

Priyanka Chopra Is, In Fact, Playing Sati

The first huge confirmation we’ve gotten, thanks to Warner Bros. Korea’s Instagram marketing, is that Priyanka Chopra is in fact playing Sati. Why this is so important will be discussed in a moment, but let’s first look at what confirmed this casting. If you take a look at that Instagram post, it shows off a recent poster that depicted Ms. Chopra’s character. Translating the caption from Korean to English, here’s what this message roughly says:

A crucial character in the later installments of the Matrix trilogy, we last saw Sati as a young girl with promising power, resurrected after Neo’s final fight with Agent Smith (Hugo Weaving). The path for her character is still unknown, with Enter The Matrix’s big message from The Oracle (Mary Alice) stating that she will be very important to the future of machines and humanity. Scratching one question off of The Matrix 4 wish list, we can now begin to look at the other characters being teased in a similar fashion.

Jessica Henwick’s Character Is Named Bugs

Looking further down the line of the posters that also gave us our best look at the new Morpheus, played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, The Matrix Resurrections’ marketing campaign has also confirmed another figure that we've known about for roughly several months. Jessica Henwick’s mysterious character is part of this same marketing run, and quite fittingly, she’s named Bugs, which is a sort of double-edged name in this world of simulated freedom fighting. The most obvious facet is that, much like any digital system has bugs that fundamentally alter things, Henwick’s character is doing just that by aiding Neo. 

It wouldn’t be The Matrix if there wasn’t another level of meaning though, and “Bugs” is also a fitting name for this new figure because of an easter egg she possesses from the original films. Just as Thomas Anderson followed the white rabbit to become Neo, his newly reincarnated self will have to repeat that history, thanks to Bugs having that exact tattoo on her shoulder. As it turns out, Warner Bros.' brand synergy works outside of Space Jam legacy-quels and fighting games; and this new character seems to be on the same level of importance as Morpheus, seeing as we've known about the two of them for approximately the same amount of time.

Meet Neil Patrick Harris, A.K.A. Analyst

Here’s where things get a little murky, but still very much intriguing. Throughout the teases to Neil Patrick Harris’ piece to the Matrix puzzle, we’ve seen him operate as a therapist to Thomas Anderson/Neo in this new world. So the name “Analyst” shouldn’t come as a surprise, as it fits his job description to a tee. Thinking a little harder on that title, and the past history of The Matrix Resurrections’ predecessors, another theory starts to arise. What if all of these intimate scenes between “The Analyst” and Thomas reveal that this supposed therapist is really “The Architect 2.0”?

Introduced in The Matrix Reloaded, The Architect (Helmut Bakaitis) met Neo at a crucial phase in his journey as The One, and laid out the concept of The Matrix and his involvement in its inner workings. After which, The Architect gave Neo a choice: wipe the slate clean for a new round or potentially crash the entire Matrix and exterminate humanity. Maybe in his new form, which also seems to involve constantly sitting and moderating/monitoring Neo’s choices, The Analyst is the key to keeping both sides of the fence in line? 

There’s A Matrix Character Poster That’s Conspicuously Missing

All of the information that’s come from this new source of clues to The Matrix Resurrections has highlighted an interesting absence in the lineup. Most of this was already shared throughout international markets, as we’ve seen in the domestic campaign for the next adventure. Comparing the two sources however, one character is conspicuously missing from these revelations: the mysterious presence played by Jonathan Groff. Taking a look at the photo evidence below, there’s an obvious theory as to why he’s MIA: 

What kind of caption or character name to you use to accompany that poster that would even begin to hide the intent of Mr. Groff’s would-be antagonist? Though come to think of it, even with this poster giving off a serious vibe that we saw with Hugo Weaving’s Agent Smith teaser poster for The Matrix Reloaded, there’s still room for argument. Seeing as this fresh man of mystery also gets to reenact a key moment in Neo’s Matrix journey, the path isn’t exactly clear. 

Why These Characters Could Be Massive Pieces In The Matrix Resurrections

While previous announcements have leaned heavily on 1999’s The Matrix as the key to this new saga, the sequels are clearly in play thanks to Sari’s presence. Also, seeing figures like Morpheus and The Merovingian either totally reskinned or altered tremendously means that we’re not just going back to relive that first movie. They weren’t kidding when they said this isn’t merely a sequel, as The Matrix Resurrections seems to be an upgraded version of the original. 

The Matrix is literally rebooted, with figures, events and even footage from the first installment playing a key part in whatever this new puzzle happens to spell out. Whatever happens next is taking into account the entire trilogy that came before it, which speaks to the changes that have been made. And for once, Neo might not be the key to the future, as Sati’s return and The Oracle’s cryptic prophecy of her importance might be fulfilled, should those potential sequels happen.

We’ve still got some time before The Matrix Resurrections hits theaters and HBO Max on December 22nd. That’s a lot of space to be filled with ads from all over the world, slowly revealing secrets in bite sized pieces that string together to make... something. What that is probably won’t be the entire truth, as much like a good Christmas gift, you should only give enough hints to get everyone sitting around the tree. 

From appearing in Star Wars: The Force Awakens to her time on TV shows like Game of Thrones and Iron Fist, Jessica Henwick has collected some major franchise/property cred. That list is about to get longer too, as she’s starring alongside Keanu Reeves in next month’s The Matrix Resurrections. However, in order to take part in the fourth Matrix movie, Henwick had to turn down the opportunity to audition for one of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s latest movies, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

As already noted, Jessica Henwick already has some Marvel experience under her belt thanks to playing Colleen Wing in Netflix’s Iron Fist, a role she reprised in The Defenders and Luke Cage. However, an opportunity came along for her to possibly appear in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, but it arrived at the same time as she was being considered to play Bugs in The Matrix Resurrections. 

The offers to audition, in fact, actually came on the same day. Disney and Warner Bros. learned about the competing auditions and told the actress that she could audition for their movie only if she turned down the movie from the other studio. As Henwick told EW:

That’s an apt, Matrix-y way to describe the situation, especially considering that whatever role Jessica Henwick chose, it still wasn’t guaranteed that she’d get it. It also wasn’t mentioned which specific character Henwick was up for in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, although given her combat training, I suspect she was being looked at for Xu Xialing, Shang-Chi’s sister. Regardless, Henwick decided to pursue The Matrix Resurrections and scored the Bugs role, while Meng'er Zhang was ultimately selected to play Xialing in Shang-Chi (and it’s expected we’ll be seeing more of her in the MCU).

So why did she ultimately choose to dive into the Matrix 4 over what Marvel could have potentially offered? 

Maybe there will come a day when Jessica Henwick is approached to play someone else in the MCU; after all, she wouldn’t be the first actor to play two different Marvel characters (such as Mahershala Ali previously starring as Cornell “Cottonmouth” Stokes in Luke Cage and now preparing to succeed Wesley Snipes as Blade). 

For now though, Henwick described Bugs as being like “the audience’s eyes” into The Matrix Resurrections. While specific details about this blue-haired, white rabbit-tattooed character are still being kept under wraps, the movie’s trailer shows that she helps guide Keanu Reeve’ Neo back into the virtual world he operated in two decades ago. The pair was joined by co-star Jessica Henwick, who portrays new character Bugs. Priyanka Chopra and Jessica accessorized with simple gold jewelry, but opted for a black tuxedo bustier (no word on the designer, but it’s giving Tom Ford-meets-Mugler energy) and a neutral off-the-shoulder top respectively. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II wore a top from Look 23 of the Bottega Veneta Fall 2021 Ready-To-Wear collection by Daniel Lee. His love for the designer seems to be an ongoing affair -  he donned several Bottega looks when he covered the December issue of British GQ, including a fabulous green leather button-up. He’s also been known to sport luxe streetwear brands like Fear of God. 

The fashion of The Matrix was well known for its signature aesthetic, a mix of pleather on pleather, black on black, and tiny sunglasses. Costumes for the first three films were designed by Kym Barrett, who went on to work on films like Aquaman and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. While she’s not returning for The Matrix Resurrections, her futuristic influence is evident in the film’s trailer - it only takes one look at the sleek shades on Jessica Henwick or Yahya Abdul-Mateen II’s long black coat to prove that. 

The Matrix Resurrections will mark the first appearance in the sci-fi saga for Priyanka Chopra, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, and Jessica Henwick. Other series newcomers include Neil Patrick Harris, Jonathan Groff (whose mouth was sewn shut in the trailer in a manner eerily similar to Neo’s from the first film), and Christina Ricci. Of course, it just wouldn’t be The Matrix without Neo or Trinity, but not to worry - Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss receive top billing. Series alum Jada Pinkett Smith will also return as Niobe. The Wachowskis are represented by director Lana, making The Matrix Resurrections the first film in the series to not be directed by both sisters.

The Matrix Resurrections was a long time coming. The fourth installment in the seminal sci-fi saga is being released nearly two decades after the third, The Matrix Revolutions. Things are moving right along for Knives Out 2, as the Rian Johnson-directed sequel is finally set to begin production this summer. Ahead of filming, the director has been building up an all-star cast alongside returning star Daniel Craig. It’s been pretty amazing to see just how much talent he’s been bringing on board as of late. Now, the highly anticipated movie has landed yet another strong name, who just so happens to be starring in The Matrix 4 this year.

Knives Out 2 has reportedly cast Jessica Henwick to its growing cast, according to Deadline. As with the other casting additions, details on Henwick’s exact role in the film remain a mystery, which is arguably appropriate given the situation. With this, the rising star will join Daniel Craig, Dave Bautista, Edward Norton, Kate Hudson, Leslie Odom Jr., Kathryn Hahn, Madelyn Cline and Janelle Monáe. Rian Johnson is once again in the director’s chair and wrote the screenplay. He’ll also produce the film with frequent collaborator Ram Bergman.

Jessica Henwick has been building up a very impressive résumé over the past few years, having found herself in some pretty high-profile productions. Back in 2015, she appeared as Resistance pilot Jessika Pava in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. And just last year, she starred in sci-fi, horror flick Underwater, alongside Kristen Stewart, and teamed up with Dylan O’Brien for sleeper hit Love and Monsters. In addition to The Matrix 4 and Knives Out 2, she’s also starring in the Russo Brothers’ The Gray Man.

The actress has also amassed some big credits on the small screen, as she first broke out with her role as Nymeria Sand on Game of Thrones. And Marvel fans no doubt remember her for playing Colleen Wing in Netflix’s series of TV shows.

As previously alluded to, production on Knives Out 2 is very close, as the movie is reportedly set to kick off production in Greece this month. Daniel Craig even recently visited the Greek Consulate in New York City in order to obtain a Visa ahead of his trip. So things are definitely feeling quite real at this point.

While plot details are slim, we can assume that the film will see Daniel Craig’s southern detective, Benoit Blanc, take on another mystery amid a completely different cast of characters. So viewers shouldn’t expect to see more of the “eccentric” Thromby family from the original movie. However, given the names that are attached to the movie, there are plenty of reasons to be excited.

A few of the film’s stars have shared their thoughts on what it’s like to have joined the movie. Dave Bautista is excited to be teaming up with Rian Johnson and Daniel Craig admitted that he is a bit nervous about it. Leslie Odom Jr. is also pumped to be on board and teased what fans can expect from the sequel.

Whether or not Rian Johnson can capture the humorous, enigmatic and socially poignant nature of the first movie remains to be seen. Nevertheless, his track record gives us more than enough hope that he’ll be able to deliver a worthy sequel. And with stars like Daniel Craig, Jessica Henwick and Dave Bautista, he surely has a game cast to help pull off this latest caper.

As Netflix has grown, the streaming service has shown increased willingness to spend big bucks on its most high-profile original movies. Just look at how much it cost to make The Irishman, 6 Underground and the upcoming Red Notice, to name a few. Well, Netflix is now in the midst of putting together its most expensive movie yet: The Gray Man, which comes with a $200 million budget and was supposed to star Brad Pitt many years ago.

Based on the same-named novel by Mark Greaney, The Gray Man will follow a skilled operative who’s embarked on a journey across the globe to eliminate his former co-worker from the CIA, who’s now a mercenary. Directors Joe and Anthony Russo are helming The Gray Man, and their Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame collaborators, Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, came in to polish the script that Joe Russo penned. But that’s not the only way The Gray Man is serving as a Marvel Cinematic Universe reunion, as Chris Evans is among the many actors who have boarded the action thriller. With that in mind, let’s go over who all is taking part in this ambitious Netflix movie.

Chris Evans

Four of Chris Evans’ 11 movies as Captain America (including the cameo appearances) were directed by the Russo brothers, but for The Gray Man, the actor’s playing a drastically different kind of character than the Star-Spangled Avenger. Evans was brought aboard to play Lloyd Hansen, the operative who’s hunting down Court Gentry (more on him soon). However, don’t go thinking that Lloyd is the hero of this story. Joe Russo described Evans’ character as the villain who gets to wear “some crazy shit.” Evans has experience playing antagonistic characters, from Scott Pilgrim vs. The World to Knives Out, so it’ll be interesting to see how his version of Lloyd Hansen compares to those other baddies.

Ryan Gosling

The protagonist of The Gray Man is Court Gentry, who may be on the run, but has a noble cause in the story, as he’s determined to rescue his family and handler from nefarious forces who feel he’s a threat to their interests and have hired Lloyd Hansen to take him out. Ryan Gosling will bring Court to life in Netflix’s adaptation; he’s most recently appeared in Blade Runner 2049 and First Man, and he’s also starring in a reboot of The Wolf Man. The Gray Man is the first of Mark Greaney’s novels starring Court Gentry, so if the movie performs well on Netflix, there’s a good chance we could see Gosling reprise the role in at least one sequel, if not many more.

Ana De Armas

Although Ana de Armas has been professionally acting since 2006, her profile has grown in recent years thanks to being present in movies like Blade Runner 2049, The Informer and Knives Out. In addition to her upcoming turn as Marilyn Monroe in Blonde, de Armas also got some action experience under her belt from playing Paloma in the next James Bond movie, No Time to Die. That should come in handy for The Gray Man, and while it hasn’t been revealed yet who she’s playing, the Netflix feature is giving her the opportunity to reunite with both Chris Evans and Ryan Gosling.

If you’re a fan of the Netflix series Narcos, you’ll obviously recognize Wagner Moura as the man who played drug lord Pablo Escobar (who he briefly reprised in an episode of the companion series Narcos: Mexico). As for movies, Moura is an acclaimed actor within the world of Brazilian cinema, while American film fans might recognize him from recent movies like Wasp Network and Sergio. But if you haven’t watched any of these projects, then you’ll have the opportunities to see his acting talents when The Gray Man comes out.

Dhanush

The actor known as Dhanush has been active in Tamil cinema for nearly two decades now, and he made his Bollywood debut in 2013’s Raanjhanaa. But if you primarily stick to American movies, then you’re likely not familiar with Dhanush, although The Gray Man will certainly change that. It’s unclear how big of a role he has in the story, but perhaps the Netflix production will pave the way for him to appear in more Hollywood fare.

You may not know her by name, but if you saw Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, then you’ll definitely remember Julia Butters for playing Trudi Fraser, the young actress who performed opposite Leonardo DiCaprio’s Rick Dalton in the Lancer pilot. You might also recognize Butters from her role as Anna-Kat Otto on the ABC sitcom American Housewife, although she departed the series ahead of Season 5. While we don’t officially know yet who Butters in The Gray Man, I suspect it’ll be one of Court Gentry’s daughters.

Billy Bob Thornton

If you’re reading this, chances are I don’t need to tell you who Billy Bob Thornton is or do a deep dive on his resume, which includes Armageddon, Monster’s Ball and Bad Santa. That said, The Gray Man will mark Thornton’s first movie since 2018, when he appeared in both London Fields and A Million Little Pieces. He’s also starred as Billy McBride in the Amazon series Goliath, which premiered its third season back in 2019 and has been renewed for a fourth and final season. If I had to guess, I’d say that Thornton will play one of The Gray Man’s villains, but don’t hold me to that.

Alfre Woodard

Like Billy Bob Thornton, there’s no need to go over all the movie and TV shows Alfre Woodard is well known for, but it is worth mentioning that she’s a veteran in the Netflix space, having previously popped up in Luke Cage, A Series of Unfortunate Events, Juanita and the upcoming Fatherhood. Now she’s returning to the platform as part of The Gray Man’s cast; fingers crossed she’ll share some scenes with Chris Evans, as she only acted opposite Robert Downey Jr. in Captain America: Civil War.

Regé-Jean Page

Before December 2020, you might have seen Regé-Jean Page in projects like Mortal Engines, For the People and The History Channel’s Roots miniseries, but now he’s been catapulted to new levels of fame thanks to his role as Simon Basset in the hit Netflix series Bridgerton. As if being cast in the new Dungeons & Dragons movie wasn’t exciting enough, now Page is getting to leave his mark on the film side of the Netflix empire by starring in The Gray Man. Clearly his popularity boost is only just getting started.

Eme Ikwuakor

Eme Ikwuakor is staying familiar territory by joining The Gray Man, as in recent years, he’s recurred on the Netflix teen comedy-drama series On My Block as Dwayne Turner, the father of Brett Gray’s Jamal Warner. Some of you might also remember Ikwuakor from his time as Gorgon in the short-lived Marvel series Inhumans, while his other notable film and TV credits include Extant, NCIS: Los Angeles, How to Get Away with Murder and the upcoming Roland Emmerich flick Moonfall.

Scott Haze

Following his breakout performance as Lester Ballard in Child of God, Scott Haze has appeared in movies like Midnight Special, Thank You for Your Service, Only the Brave, Zeroville and Minari. However, comic book movie fans might recognize him from 2018’s Venom as Roland Treece, the head of security for Carlton Drake, the man who later bonded with the Riot symbiote. Haze also has a role in the upcoming Jurassic World: Dominion, and now he gets to be involved in the ambitious production that is The Gray Man.

And with the trend of nostalgia continuing to influence the film world, Lana Wachowski is jacking back into the beloved property with The Matrix 4. While she wasn't able to play Rey in The Force Awakens, J.J. Abrams did end up giving Jessica Henwick a small role after her long and disappointing audition process. Fans have waited for years to get a chance to revisit Lilly and Lana Wachowski’s iconic world -- and that includes some of the actors who’ve snagged roles in The Matrix 4. Jessica Henwick, who will co-star with Keanu Reeves in an as-yet undisclosed role, got a first-hand look at the actor reprising his role as Neo. And she admits that seeing him recite lines in character was an unforgettable moment.

Jessica Henwick is no stranger to huge franchises. She’s had roles in Star Wars and Game of Thrones, after all. However, after snagging a role in the highly-anticipated Matrix 4, she revealed to NME that the experience of seeing Keanu Reeves as Neo was especially surreal:

The Matrix 4 newcomers’ enthusiasm is completely understandable. The last film in the original Matrix trilogy, The Matrix Revolutions, hit theaters in 2003, so it’s been nearly two decades since we last got our fill of Neo, Trinity and the rest of the franchise’s unforgettable characters. He's now once again collaborating with Lana Wachowski for The Matrix 4, which is another opportunity or Henwick to make her intentions about joining the John Wick universe clear.

To her credit, Jessica Henwick already has a ton of experience with genre work. She starred as Colleen Wing in Netflix's Iron Fist and Defenders, where she had plenty of action scenes. She also played Nymeria Sand in Game of Thrones, and had a small role as a rebel pilot in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Her work in The Matrix 4 likely includes plenty of mind blowing action as well, putting her in perfect shape to step into John Wick if the opportunity presented itself.

The Matrix has now joined the ranks of properties and franchises that Hollywood has decided to resurrect and/or revitalize. Although there’d previously been talk several years back about returning to this sci-fi world through a spinoff or prequel, it was announced in August that a direct follow-up, i.e. The Matrix 4, is officially in the works. And while a release date hasn’t been set just yet, The Matrix 4 is on the fast track, with production scheduled to begin in early 2020.

Because Warner Bros is so eager to get the ball rolling on The Matrix 4, there’s already a solid lineup of actors that’s being assembled for this highly-anticipated project, whether they were officially confirmed or revealed through reports. Here’s everyone who’s either signed on for or is in talks to join The Matrix 4.

Keanu Reeves

Although Neo sacrificed his life at the end of The Matrix Revolutions to destroy the Agent Smith virus, resulting in the machines leaving the human-filled city of Zion, the Oracle mused to the program Sati that she thought they’d see Neo again. That is definitely the case, as Keanu Reeves will reprise Neo in The Matrix 4. What’s still unclear is if he’ll actually be brought back to life in this next movie (even if it’s only through the Matrix) or if his scenes will be limited to flashbacks. I suspect the former so that Reeves has a meaty enough role, but regardless, given the Keanussance that’s unfolded in recent years with the John Wick movies, Toy Story 4, Always Be My Maybe and plenty of other projects, now the actor gets to return to arguably his biggest franchise.

Carrie-Anne Moss

Like Neo, Carrie-Anne Moss’ Trinity perished during The Matrix Revolutions, and just like with the main protagonist, we don’t know yet if a full-blown resurrection is on the table for her or if we’ll be looking back at a time when she was still alive. Whatever the answer is, Carrie Anne-Moss will be portraying Trinity again. In recent years, she’s kept busy with projects like The Bye Bye Man, Jessica Jones and Tell Me a Story.

Jada Pinkett Smith

Unlike Neo and Trinity, Niobe, one of the most skilled pilots among the rebels, was still alive at the end of The Matrix Revolutions, seen embracing Morpheus as the Sentinels left Zion. So then it stands to reason that when we see Jada Pinkett Smith playing the character again in The Matrix 4, assuming the actress works out a deal, it’ll be a ‘present day’ version of her, though don’t take that as being 100% confirmed just yet. Smith’s notable credits post-The Matrix Revolutions include the Madagascar movies, Magic Mike XXL, Girls Trip, Hawthorne and Gotham.

Yahya Abdul-Mateen II

Now we come to the first of the individuals who are brand new to The Matrix franchise. Yahya Abdul-Mateen has risen to prominence through appearances in The Greatest Showman, Aquaman and Us, and he’s also one of the main cast members on HBO’s Watchmen. His fame will rise even higher when people see him in The Matrix 4, although as with the following two individuals on this list, we don’t know yet who he’s playing. That said, there’s speculation that Abdul-Mateen could be playing a younger version of Morpheus, the role previously occupied by Laurence Fishburne (who, by the way, is not attached to The Matrix 4… at least, not yet).

Neil Patrick Harris

You know him from TV shows like Doogie Howser, M.D., How I Met Your Mother and A Series of Unfortunate Events, and he’s also contributed to genre fiction like Starship Troopers and various animated DC Comics adaptations. Now Neil Patrick Harris is boarding The Matrix 4, and it’ll be interesting to see whether he plays a protagonist or antagonist in the movie.

Jessica Henwick

Then we have Jessica Henwick, who is arguably best known for playing Colleen Wing in Iron Fist and is being eyed for one of the lead roles. According to Deadline, Henwick “performed quite strongly during the audition process,” and it’s possible she’s being tapped to play a "female-like Neo character." The actress has also starred in Star Wars: The Force Awakens and the upcoming Godzilla vs. Kong.

Jonathan Groff

If you haven’t seen Jonathan Groff on the Broadway stage or in TV shows like Glee and Mindhunter, then you likely have at least heard him as Kristoff in the Frozen movies, shorts and more. Now Groff is making the jump to sci-fi with The Matrix 4, and just like the other newcomers, no details about his role were provided. Nevertheless, Groff now has the opportunity to leave his mark on another iconic franchise, only this time we’re fairly certain his character won’t be talking to reindeer.

Toby Onwumere

Having previously worked with Lana Wachowski on Sense8, Toby Onwumere is now getting the opportunity to work with her again through The Matrix 4. Onwumere appeared in the Netflix series’ Christmas special and second season as Capheus, taking over the role from Aml Ameen. The actor also recurred as Kai on the Fox series Empire. And yes, we don’t know who he’s playing yet either.

Max Riemelt

Another Sense8 star who’s taking part in The Matrix 4 is Max Riemelt, who played Wolfgang Bogdanow on the Netflix show and announced that he’s re-teaming with Lana Wachowski on his social media accounts. Other than Sense8, the majority of Riemelt’s acting work has been in German productions, so on top of The Matrix 4 being his biggest American project yet, needless to say that it’ll introduce him to a lot of folks who didn’t check out the sci-fi series.

Eréndira Ibarra

What a Sense8 reunion this is turning out to be! Eréndira Ibarra played Daniela Velázquez in the Netflix series, and while she has plenty of Spanish-language productions under her belt, The Matrix 4 will provide the opportunity for more American audiences to get to know her. What am I gonna say next? That’s right, nothing about who Ibarra will play was revealed.

Priyanka Chopra

Priyanka Chopra was already a huge Bollywood star by the time she started starring in American productions like the Baywatch reboot, Isn’t It Romantic? and the TV series Quanitco. Now she’s in talks to join The Matrix 4, according to Variety. Whoever Chopra ends up playing, not only will it boost her already notable profile up even higher, she’ll also have the opportunity to leave an even bigger mark on the action genre. Chopra would also film The Matrix 4 concurrently with the Amazon series Citadel, which co-stars Richard Madden and hails from MCU superstar directors Joe and Anthony Russo.

Andrew Caldwell

While Andrew Caldwell has had parts in movies like Transformers, All About Steve and Haunt, the majority of his acting work has been on TV. He popped up in numerous Nickelodeon and Disney Channel shows over the years, and iZombie fans will recognize him as Harley Johns, who recurred in Season 3. It goes without saying that The Matrix 4 will be a huge platform for him to shine on, and perhaps it’ll lead to him getting more film work as his career continues.

Brian J. Smith

The Sense8 fun continues. Brian J. Smith, who played Will Gorski on the Netflix series, has boarded The Matrix 4 in an undisclosed role. Smith has also appeared on shows like Stargate Universe, Gossip Girl and Treadstone, and he also scored a Tony Award nomination in the 2013 revival of The Glass Menagerie. At this point, it’s probably just worth asking which Sense8 actors won’t be in The Matrix 4.

Ellen Hollman

Most of you probably know Ellen Hollman best for her role on as Saxa on the latter two seasons of the TV show Spartacus, known respectively as Vengeance and War of the Damned. More recently, she’s recurred on shows like Into the Badlands, NCIS: New Orleans and 9-1-1, and now she’s been added to The Matrix 4 cast. Considering that Hollman is a Jiu Jitsu martial artist, it’s a good bet we’ll see her show off her fighting moves within the Matrix.

Once you come to love a star in a role, it's hard to imagine anyone else playing that character. But it's fun to hear about the castings that almost happened. Star Wars: The Force Awakens launched the final act in the Skywalker Saga with Rey as the central character. Daisy Ridley ended up getting the role, but so many other actresses wanted it. One of those actresses was Jessica Henwick.

The Iron Fist and Game of Thrones alum is now starring in Underwater with Kristen Stewart. While talking about her new sci-fi movie, Jessica Henwick discussed how she ended up in The Force Awakens as Jess Pava, and what happened to Pava after her appearance. Turns out, J.J. Abrams wrote the character of Jess Pava for her after breaking her heart when she didn't get the role of Rey after a six-month audition.

I can only imagine the disappointment. Six months of auditions was probably several callbacks, each one dangling the hope. It's cool that she got to be in a Star Wars movie at all, and Jess Pava developed her own little fan base even with such a small appearance. But Rey. Rey is the main character of the new trilogy. Do you think Abrams knew when he was casting Rey that he planned to do THAT with Rey's parents?

Anyway, Jessica Henwick may not have gotten to lead the new Star Wars movies, but she does have a role coming up in Godzilla vs Kong and she played Colleen Wing in Iron Fist and The Defenders. She also played Nymeria Sand on Game of Thrones, and she's now in theaters as Emily Haversham in Underwater. She's definitely getting her name out there.

But these kinds of almost-played stories make me think of other close castings. Apparently Leonardo DiCaprio was offered Anakin Skywalker. Paul Walker reportedly wanted the job (via TIME) and was bummed not to get it. Ryan Phillippe even tested for the role, which ultimately went to Hayden Christensen.

Christopher Walken was reportedly almost Han Solo instead of Harrison Ford. Kurt Russell said he auditioned for Luke Skywalker and Han Solo and took himself out of the running to do something else. Sylvester Stallone said he auditioned for Han Solo and George Lucas didn't even look at him. Al Pacino said he was also offered Han Solo, but he said he was offered everything at that point in his career after The Godfather.

Jodie Foster reportedly turned down the chance to play Princess Leia, and Laverne & Shirley's Cindy Williams was also in the running. Rooney Mara almost played Jyn Erso in Rogue One, although she didn't get very far in that casting process because of a scheduling conflict.

And Rey? Billie Lourd, Carrie Fisher's own daughter -- who also ended up with a new role in the Star Wars sequels -- said she met with J.J. Abrams to discuss the role of Rey. The great Saoirse Ronan reportedly auditioned for Rey as well, and said she had such a great time auditioning and pretending to take a lightsaber out of a bag that the experience was enough on its own.

Abrams seemed to create a lot of little roles for various actors who didn't make the cut for big roles, or who maybe didn't have time for them -- from Jessica Henwick and Billie Lourd to Dominic Monaghan and Keri Russell's new characters in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. It's possible one of the new characters will end up with a spinoff, since the movie left room for some.

Jessica Henwick can now be seen in Underwater, which was actually filmed a few years ago and is only just now releasing in theaters. Maybe J.J. Abrams can put in a good word for her to be in Jon Favreau's The Mandalorian Season 2?

The Star Wars franchise is huge, so it’s not always easy to keep track of all its characters. Since she first -- and last -- appeared in The Force Awakens, some fans have wondered whatever happened to Jess Pava. But luckily, the actress who brought her to life has set the record straight.

While promoting her new movie Underwater, Jessica Henwick spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about some of her previous roles, from Iron Fist to Game of Thrones, and discussed what's ahead in The Matrix 4 and Godzilla vs. Kong. When the topic of Star Wars came up -- and the actress was asked if Jess Pava survived the final battle in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker -- Henwick made one thing clear as to the fate of her character:

She’s right -- the X-wing pilot has featured in numerous issues of the Poe Dameron comic series, where she has continued her heroic journey with the Resistance. Though Jessica Henwick didn’t get a chance to bring some of Jess Pava’s most exciting moments to the big screen, she is well aware of the huge fan following that her character has amassed:

But despite all the positivity surrounding her character, Jessica Henwick told THR that her role in The Force Awakens actually came as a result of a pretty big heartbreak:

The role in question? Rey. So, yeah, it’s easy to see why she may have been a bit disappointed. But it’s still unfortunate for fans of Jessica Henwick’s character that we didn’t get to see more of her. And Jess Pava isn’t the only Star Wars pilot who ended up with limited screen time in the most recent trilogy. Fans of Rose Tico, who we first met in The Last Jedi, are still incensed that she was barely present in The Rise of Skywalker. Maybe if both actresses are free, their characters could team up for an adventure of their own.

Danny Rand and Luke Cage won't be the only heroes having a crossover moment in Luke Cage Season 2, and the new clip below reveals that Colleen Wing and Misty Knight will get a chance to team up as well. The video shows Misty and Colleen doing some day drinking and getting rudely interrupted by a guy who has some beef with Misty. And don't go thinking this is all about verbal jabs, because things quickly devolve into a classic bar room brawl led by two of Marvel TV's most badass women.

Misty and Colleen managed to drop their assailants despite Misty not even having her bionic arm just yet. Colleen gave her friend a bit of tough love by at first refusing aid, which nearly inspired Misty enough to handle all those attackers on her own! Of course, the Iron Fist regular soon stepped in as the criminals began to swarm, and she whipped out some of the patented kung fu skills that made her one of the shining stars opposite Finn Jones' Danny Rand. Both women bested the foes pretty easily in the Luke Cage clip, although it's not like anyone should be surprised by that, considering who we're talking about.

This particular Luke Cage moment seems to be more about Colleen helping Misty cope with the loss of her arm, rather than something advancing the main overarching plot. One thing this clip does reveal, however, is that Misty apparently doesn't have her bionic arm at the start of Luke Cage Season 2. This may mean that Rand's company will be involved in granting her the tech for her new arm, as some had theorized after The Defenders. It may also mean the Iron Fist and Luke Cage crossover happens very early on in Season 2, although it's certainly possible that Season 2 will hold off on Misty getting a new arm until much later.

The Misty and Colleen clip is hopefully a small taste of what's in store for the Iron Fist crossover in Season 2, and it better not be the only time Luke Cage pays homage to Daughters of the Dragon. Following The Defenders, rumors swirled that the groundwork was being laid for Simone Missick and Jessica Henwick to team up for comic-inspired heroics, and it looks as though Luke Cage found time to set that up amidst putting Luke and Danny's Heroes For Hire-inspired scenes together.

Luke Cage showrunner Cheo Coker has said he hopes Marvel fans warm up more to Iron Fist after watching Season 2 of Luke Cage. Provided Danny and Luke gel as well as Colleen and Misty did in this scene, and as they did in Defenders, there's a strong possibility that fans will embrace Iron Fist Season 2 with more open arms. But if not, perhaps Marvel can shift focus to bringing Wing and Knight's Daughters of the Dragon arcs to viewers sooner rather than later.

As we enter the month of August, hardcore fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe have only one thought on their minds: The Defenders. Netflix's upcoming miniseries will unite all four of its Marvel heroes, as well as their supporting characters, in a battle against Sigourney Weaver's Alexandra. As the motley crew attempts to save New York from destruction, they'll need to depend on each other and their respective superpowers while facing the combined might of Alexandra, her forces, The Hand, and an amnesiac Elektra. But now it looks like the four heroes won't be the only ones in the fray, as a Defenders scene may include all of the supporting characters as well.

This news comes to us from actress Jessica Henwick, who played Colleen Wing in Iron Fist and will reprise her role in The Defenders. When speaking at San Diego Comic-Con (via CBR), Henwick teased a scene that contains the entire starring cast. She said:

Prepare for a nerdgasm, because it looks like The Defenders will be going full tilt in regards to its crossover moments. Now we just have to figure out why one scene will contain most of the large ensemble cast.

The inner nerd in me is hoping for some sort of massive action sequences. While the actual Defenders will no doubt be doing the majority of the fighting in the miniseries, there are a handful of ass kickers in the supporting cast as well. Colleen is a seasoned cage fighter and Taekwan-Do instructor, Trish has been training herself in secret for quite some time, and Claire Temple has been taking lessons from Colleen herself. Add in the likes of Stick and Misty Knight, and you've got some capable fighters supporting the four heroes. I'd love to see them all duking it out, and the Defenders will likely take any help they can get in the battle to come.

It should be interesting to see how all the various characters from Marvel's Netflix series crossover and interact in The Defenders. Unlike the limited runtime of Avengers: Infinity War, there are 8 hours to foster these new relationships, so it seems like just about any pairing could happen. Now we just have to wait a few more weeks to see how it all goes down.

Spoilers ahead for the most recent episode of Game of Thrones.

While we're only two episodes in, Season 7 of Game of Thrones has been an absolute doozy. We've already seen Dany arrive in Dragonstone, new character interactions, and even a few deaths. Said deaths happened last episode, as two of Dorne's Sand Snakes were brutally killed by Euron Greyjoy in his assault against Dany's fleet. Many Game fans were happy to see them go, as overall reception for the Sand Snakes' plot has been icy, and now one actress thinks she knows why some hated the Dorne scenes: there were just too many characters to meet in a short amount of time.

Jessica Henwick has played Nymeria Sand for the past few seasons of Game of Thrones, and recently discussed her character's fate with EW. She believes the Sand Snakes were poorly received because of their limited screen time and dialogue, saying:

Jessica Henwick actually makes some great points here. Let's break down exactly where Game of Thrones went wrong with the Sand Snakes.

To start, all three of Oberyn Martell's bastard girls were introduced in one scene. In their brief, violent introduction, audiences were expected to differentiate all three women, including which of them was Ellaria's daughter. The Sand Snakes didn't have all that many scenes during their tenure on the show, and Tyene was the one given slightly more dialogue than her sisters. So characters like Nymeria had little chance to make an impact.

Dorne is actually a pretty fascinating aspect of George R.R. Martin's original novels. But narrating character Arianne Martell, as well as the main plot for Myrcella Baratheon, were cut from the show, making the entire kingdom feel tertiary in the greater story of Game of Thrones. The Sand Snakes and Dorne could have been fleshed out and made more interesting if this storyline was included, but HBO decided to give it the chop.

In the same way that all of the Marvel Studios feature films have been leading up to next year's Avengers: Infinity War, all of the Marvel Netflix shows we've seen have been leading up to The Defenders. Next month, audiences will be able to see Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist all on screen at the same time, bringing a major crossover plan to fruition after many years of development. Because of the way the continuity in the franchise works, putting it all together was never going to be a simple task for showrunners Marco Ramirez and Douglas Petrie, and earlier today Ramirez filled us in on the complicated process of putting the timeline together:

The Defenders is hosting its big Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con this afternoon, and in advance of the event, the stars and Marco Ramirez took part in roundtable interviews with the press on the ground. While sitting with Ramirez and Jessica Henwick (Colleen Wing on Iron Fist), I took the opportunity to ask about the process of figuring out the Marvel Netflix timeline and how each of the shows lead into each other. He explained that it was definitely something that they focused on, with the eventual intent of making it so that fans can marathon all of the shows in release order someday and never miss a single beat.

To date, the Marvel Netflix shows have done a solid job maintaining a clear continuity, particularly evident in the role played by Rosario Dawson's Claire Temple. While each of the shows before Defenders are all separated by an undefined amount of time, the ability to track Claire as she's gone through Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist has done its part to help clarify how each of the shows relate to each other. And given that she is expected to have a significant role in the new eight-episode miniseries, presumably that special role will continue.

While it makes all the sense in the world to keep the continuity of the Marvel Netflix series rather simple, it is somewhat disappointing to hear that we probably shouldn't expect anything more ambitious at some point in the future. One of the coolest things that the Marvel Cinematic Universe has managed to pull off to date is the fact that Iron Man 2, The Incredible Hulk, and Thor all overlap in weird and interesting ways, and it's fun as a fan to pick up on how everything works. Perhaps we'll see it happen again on the big screen at some point, but it sounds like we definitely shouldn't expect anything of that nature on the streaming service shows.

Those who have been following the path of the Marvel Netflix shows don't have much longer to wait for the capstone, as The Defenders is scheduled to arrive online on Friday, August 18th. Game Of Thrones Season 7 looks to be loaded with answers to questions we've been dying to know for years now, and one character was almost missing from all the action. Jessica Henwick, who plays the deadly Sand Snake Nymeria Sand, almost had to drop out of the impending season due to scheduling conflicts with her other series,Netflix's Iron Fist. Henwick explained her dilemma and how she managed to make it work:

Jessica Henwick told EW it was a tough commitment to make, and she almost considered dropping out of Game Of Thrones because of it. Considering the flight from New York to Belfast is around ten hours going just the one way, we can't say that we blame her for the initial hesitation! Even though the temptation was strong, Henwick said she ultimately chose not to "Gendry," Nymeria Sand, and found a way to make sure she was a part of both Iron Fist and Game Of Thrones.

The decision to drop Game Of Thrones for Iron Fist may sound silly, considering the HBO show's proven success, but the Marvel role is a bigger gig for Jessica Henwick than her side character status on the fantasy drama. With Henwick slated to return as Colleen Wing in The Defenders, one might further see why she was considering exiting the critically acclaimed series for a recurring role in Marvel's Netflix universe. Ultimately, both roles worked out in a way that pleased all parties, which has to make all those long flights worth it for Henwick, whose celebrity profile continues to rise following her appearance in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

As for what's in store for Nymeria Sand in Season 7, Jessica Henwick shared that things pick up right where they left off. For those shaky on where we last left Henwick's character, Nym and the rest of the Sand Snakes were alongside the Tyrells when Varys announced an alliance with Daenerys against Cersei Lannister. Henwick promises that her character's story (as well as all others) picks up speed in Season 7 of Game Of Thrones, which is good, considering the reduced episode count.

While the Marvel Cinematic Universe is most closely associated with silver screen blockbusters, there's a thriving TV side as well. The best of these small screen projects are released over on Netflix, with four New York City heroes introduced over the past few years. And with all four heroes assembled, we'll see them finally interact and team up to save the city in the Defenders miniseries. The majority of supporting characters will also make their way to The Defenders, including Iron Fist's sword wielding love interest Colleen Wing, played by Game of Thrones alum Jessica Henwick. And now the actress has teased what to expect from Colleen in the upcoming miniseries.

Jessica Henwick recently spoke to EW about the upcoming Defenders miniseries, and got a bit chatty as far as Colleen is concerned. We now know when and where(ish) we'll meet back up with Colleen, and what demons she'll be grappling with when she returns to Netflix.

Now this is interesting. Let's break down all the possibilities for what may be ahead for Colleen Wing.

To start, she's not in New York which is interesting. But the last time we saw both Colleen and Danny they weren't in the city. Instead, they traveled back to Danny's home in K'un-Lun so that he could complete his training as the Iron Fist, and apologize for his sudden departure. But when they arrive at the gates, the entire mystical city is gone. Perhaps Colleen and Danny are still somewhere in China, looking for answers.

But Jessica Henwick also reveals that Colleen is still very much grappling with the events of Iron Fist. And I can't say I blame her- she and Danny went through alot. Through the show's first season, Colleen realized that her family unit in The Hand wasn't as squeaky clean as she thought. She was forced to battle her sensei/father figure Bakuto and win, before deciding to spare his life. Colleen was also terribly poisoned during their trip with Claire Temple to the east. She would have died too, if Danny hadn't learned how to use the healing powers of his Iron Fist abilities.

Overall, Colleen sounds like she's going to be just as captivating in The Defenders as she was in Iron Fist. And now we get to see her interact with other badass ladies like Jessica Jones, Misty Knight, and Trish.

As seen in Daredevil, Jessica Jones and now Luke Cage, Rosario Dawson's Claire Temple has found her life threatened a lot in the last few years. She's been kidnapped by Russian gangsters, faced off against zombies and ninjas, and even done a bit of basement fighting against a trained killer. Given all this, it makes perfect sense that she would want to get a bit of self-defense training -- and it seems that she's turning to an Iron Fist character to do just that.

In the final moments of Luke Cage's thirteenth episode a.k.a. season finale - titled "You Know My Steez" -- a series of shots let us know what is going on with the main cast of characters. Luke (Mike Colter) is in the back of an SUV and off to jail, Bobby Fish (Ron Cephas Jones) is discovering some key evidence while cleaning the barber shop, and Claire Temple is considering some martial arts training. Walking the street, her interest is piqued when she spots a flyer for self-defense classes on a telephone poll, and takes a number. Comic book fans, however, will recognize the name of the woman who will be doing the teaching: Colleen Wing:

For those unfamiliar with the character from the pages of Marvel Comics, Colleen Wing was born in Japan, and following her mother's death was trained by her grandfather in the ways of the samurai. Her father, Professor Lee Wing, first sent her out to meet Iron Fist when the hero traveled to Asia to seek vengeance for his father's death - and they have been allies ever since. In the upcoming Iron Fist series, the heroine will be played by actress Jessica Henwick, who geeks and TV fans may recognize as Nymeria Sand, one of the Sand Sisters, on Game of Thrones.

Rosario Dawson's Claire Temple has previously been described as the Nick Fury of the Netflix portion of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, in that she will be the link between all of the heroes who will eventually come together to form The Defenders: including Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist. As such, we already knew that the character would be showing up in the Iron Fist show, but now we have an early clue as to how she will be brought into the titular superhero's world.

Iron Fist, which will star Finn Jones as the titular hero, is going to be released in the first half of 2017, but neither Netflix nor Marvel have set a hard release date yet. We don't know too much about the series, but you can be sure that we will have all the details for you as they roll in.

While the feature side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is still lacking when it comes to female characters, the company’s efforts on the small screen are far more applause-worthy. The upcoming Netflix action-drama Iron Fist just cast its first female lead, as Game of Thrones actress Jessica Henwick has been added as the titular hero’s ally Colleen Wing.

Jessica Henwick is currently best known for playing Nymeria Sand on Game of Thrones, which already gives her a step up on roles where badassery is a prerequisite. As the comic character Colleen, Henwick will be an important and invaluable asset to Danny Rand has he returns to New York City on a mission to take down all things corrupt and evil. We can probably look forward to seeing some heavy duty fight sequences involving these characters, as Colleen is also a martial arts expert. Marvel reports she runs her own dojo, too, so she probably knows quite a few people who wouldn’t mind throwing down in a kung fu brawl.

Interestingly, Henwick isn’t the first Game of Thrones cast member to get added here, as Iron Fist himself, Finn Jones, is well-known for playing the Knight of Flowers Ser Loras Tyrell on the HBO epic. Does that mean we’ll soon see actor Peter Dinklage cast as the villainous Steel Serpent or Lena Headey as a gender-swapped Lei Kung? Probably not, but that would make for some fun conversations.

Colleen Wing, who first appeared in the comics in 1974, grew up in Japan and learned the skills of the samurai from her grandfather. She connected with Iron Fist after her father discovered that the hero would be coming to New York to get revenge for his father’s murder, and the two characters worked together in kicking criminals’ asses ever since. Colleen doesn’t have any superpowers, but her fighting talents are numerous, and she knows exactly what to do with her centuries-old katana.

Born in England, Jessica Henwick is possibly familiar to British audiences for her work on the fantasy series Spirit Warriors and the legal drama Silk. Joining Game of Thrones as one of the Sand Snakes was her first big break here in the States, although she was also a small part of Star Wars: The Force Awakens as an X-Wing pilot. She’ll be seen in Season 2 of Fortitude later this year.

Iron Fist still doesn’t have a release date, or even a release window yet. After all, we just got Daredevil Season 2 and the wait is currently on for the freshman season from Luke Cage. But expect more casting news to surface in the coming weeks.
