Chuck Norris tragically passed away at the age of 86 last week, and left behind a family, legions of fans and a legacy that included acting, martial arts charity initiatives, his own production studio, and even (apparently) teaching young folk about acting. That’s what happened to Jessica Simpson after trying out for (and losing) a spot in The Mickey Mouse Club, unlike her peers Britney Spears and Ryan Gosling. She went to Chuck Norris for help, and said he gave her some advice that’s cemented in her brain, and has actually ruined Denzel Washington movies for her.

Jessica Simpson has famously told the same story several times about her mom sending her "to Chuck Norris" and how it scared her away from Denzel Washington movies for life. The first appeared in print in Open Book, her autobiography that's currently available on Amazon. Another time, she told a very similar story during an episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live! In her narrative, she’s a young 12-year-old girl who is working on her acting after losing the Mickey Mouse Club gig.

This would have been in the early '90s just before Walker, Texas Ranger blew up, and the actor was apparently teaching some young talent in the Dallas area. In fact, the actor who played Barney The Dinosaur ended up being Jessica Simpson’s scene partner. Per Chuck's logic, the reason Ms. Simpson didn’t beat out her peers had to do with her face, and he suggested she pay attention to what Denzel Washington was doing on the big screen. In Open Book, she wrote:

Simpson claimed she continued to be taped up when she would dutifully appear for classes, and by the third visit, she was already telling her mother she didn’t want to go. Her mom had little sympathy.

To his credit, Norris is a remarkably stoic actor himself. Plus, it's true that eyebrow acting can be a problem. We know Martin Scorsese allegedly hates “eyebrow acting,” so it’s not like Chuck Norris’ advice is bad advice. Though I’d argue in certain situations, like The Rock in the WWE ring or like when Jimmi Simpson’s eyebrows needed a tweak in Westworld, one’s eyebrows can be rather important to the gig. Still, clearly the whole taping thing was mortifying to 12-year-old Jessica Simpson, and is a fundamental story in her coming-of-age narrative. I didn't see the random Denzel Washington shrapnel coming, but it's still a fascinating story.

Norris left a lasting impression on Jessica Simpson, but his impact didn’t always have to do with eyebrows. Christie Brinkley revealed their longtime partnership (despite disagreeing politically) and the respect she shared with the late star. Other big Hollywood names like Sylvester Stallone and Jean-Claude Van Damme paid tribute to Norris, and fans have been leaving memorabilia on his Hollywood star. He won't be forgotten anytime soon, even if everyone's experience really seems to have run the gamut.

She was definitely due for a celebration, as she took a “fancy dive into 45” with a birthday party at the Chateau Marmont this weekend, and the big bash included a sparkling see-through dress.

Jessica Simpson shared several photos to Instagram from her birthday, as the singer turned 45 on July 10, and her sheer gown is definitely one of the sexier looks we’ve seen from the “With You” artist:

An absolute show-stopper! Aside from the glittering triangles covering her chest, the dress didn’t leave much to the imagination, with sheer fabric adorned with hundreds of rhinestones forming a diamond pattern cascading to the ground. She wore black panties underneath, which matched the floor-length black tuxedo jacket that gave her some added coverage for at least part of the evening.

She accessorized with chunky silver platform heels that I’m not sure were made for walking. Jessica Simpson finished the look with a sparkly choker along with a bracelet and rings and sported a manicure that showed off even more glitter.

Earlier this year, Jessica Simpson said she “felt naked” when she performed music from her new EP, Nashville Canyon, Part 1 — she was so nervous she had to put hairspray on her feet to keep in her place — and this dress seemed to be the embodiment of baring it all in the spotlight.

There were a lot of questions about how "real" The Hills actually was, and the series finale provided an answer in epic fashion. After a tearful goodbye between Brody Jenner and Kristin Cavallari in the final scene, he appears to be standing in front of the Hollywood sign as he watches her limo drive away. The camera then pans out to reveal they're in a studio backlot, and the Hollywood sign backdrop is wheeled away as Cavallari — whose limo never actually went anywhere — exits the vehicle and hugs Jenner.

Britney Spears has had a rough road of late. She fought a conservatorship in court, she just went through a divorce, and most recently was involved in a case of an alleged domestic disturbance at a hotel in Los Angeles. Those paying attention will know Spears' problems with her family are well documented, so it's maybe not surprising that the star has been spending a lot of time and money on vacation over the last several months. However, many are worrying that Spears is spending too much and, now, one of the star's peers, Jessica Simpson, has spoken out about just how expensive those vacays can get.

Notably, Jessica Simpson has been spotted on vacation on more than a few occasions over the years. While chatting with TMZ, the former teen idol was recently asked about Britney Spears' apparent lavish spending on her outings. While Simpson never mentioned the pop star by name, she did make a point to say that not every vacation that she’s been on recently was on her own dime. She also admitted that it's  "easy to blow all your money on vacation," though she further mentioned why it may be worth it:

Whether you’re in Hawaii or Disney World, when you’re on vacation, you want to have a fun, potentially relaxing time. Per recent reports, the "Toxic" singer has spent so much on recent vacations that some actually fear she could go broke.

Jessica Simpson’s comments here seemingly indicate that such a situation is possible. We may be able to assume she's speaking from at least some experience. She’s clearly able to take all the vacations she takes, perhaps because she hasn’t had to pay for everything. However, Simpson's also probably spent more than she should now and then. We’ve all done that, even if the scale is different.

Britney Spears has reportedly been taking multiple trips to Hawaii and French Polynesia, with vacations reaching six and even seven figures per excursion. she's reportedly worth an estimated $60 million so, in the grand scheme of things, she can theoretically afford these trips. But it’s unknown what sort of income the former pop star currently has, so it can't be said for sure that the money couldn't go out faster than it comes into the point that it runs out.

However, some insiders claim Britney Spears has plenty of money coming in, thanks to her successful memoir. If that's the case, then there's not a risk of her going broke. And, if she can spend that much on vacation and still be comfortable, good for her. If only we were all so lucky.

Jessica Simpson has notably lost weight several times in her history of being in the public eye; this includes losing 100 pounds by 2020 after the birth of her daughter Birdie. However, while she’s basically maintained the same weight and been happy with her body no matter her size, she revealed a short while ago that she’s still being scrutinized, and it’s never been more apparent than a few recent instagram posts. 

What Jessica Simpson Said About ‘Being Still Scrutinized’ 

A  while back, the ”Irresistible” singer explained that the Internet has not been kind to her basically ever. When she became famous in the early ‘00s she said there was “scrutiny” on her body, her looks, and even those Daisy Dukes she wore in Dukes of Hazzard. Then she became a mom, gained weight, lost weight, and now very much still putting herself out there on social media. But when an Access Hollywood interviewer asked her what it was like now that things are “changing” for women in Hollywood, she made it clear things haven’t changed for her.

While the silver lining of having a successful clothing line with double denim and more is probably a reasonably good way to comfort oneself, the point remains. Fans do not seem to want to be kind to a celebrity who has gone through so many different size amalgamations over the years. Simpson also told the outlet her big message for herself and her kids is: “ You don’t dress for anyone else. You don’t try to look like anybody else.”

She’s stuck by this in recent posts, but fans are still not cutting her any slack. 

How Recent Comments From Fans Lead Right Into Jessica Simpson’s Point

Despite scrutiny, Jessica Simpson has been an open book on social media, even sharing candid posts peeing on set (that have also incited fan comments). She shared some photos recently showcasing her bright fashion sense. Chief among them were posts in orange and pink dresses she's worn recently, including the one below. 

Myriad fans commented on the post, but many of the top comments were about the former reality star's current looks. Here's a smattering of the type of comments she has seen on a daily basis:

While a few additional fans came to her defense, it seems as if many people commenting on her posts are fine commenting on her body in ways she’s specifically noted and asked people not to. In fact, in the past Ms. Simpson has noted whether people are complimenting her weight loss or making disparaging comments about her looks, it’s not the right approach. She says talking about people’s bodies is not OK, period. 

Due to the landscape, Plenty of celebrities have quit social media, including Scarlett Johansson, who called knowing so much about a person’s personal life “a waste of time” and individuals like Kelly Marie Tran, who quit specifically thanks to Star Wars’ fan scrutiny. It’s unclear if the idea of “trolling” will ever go out of fashion, but the singer has made it very clear that she’d prefer to keep the conversation about topics other than her body moving forward. Jessica Simpson is going back to her Southern roots. The singer–slash–shoe mogul was born and raised in Texas, but she has been living in Los Angeles for years. However, a recent stay in Nashville has allegedly been giving the star second thoughts about the Hollywood life.

The "I Wanna Love You Forever" belter will be back with a new studio album in 2024. This will be her first in more than 13 years — though she manages to secure headlines with or without a headlining gig — and she’s been recording the new material in Nashville, after relocating her family there from Los Angeles last summer. Per a recent interview with Footwear News, the former reality TV star dubbed the Tennessee capital "a retreat" for her where she feels "so enlightened." 

Being back in the studio was also a sanctuary for the singer who is often mistaken for Britney Spears. She put out seven studio albums between 1999 and 2010, and she said she's loved working on music again: 

Apparently, Simpson loved her Southern sojourn so much that she might just be making it permanent. People reported this September that the business mogul put the $22 million, 13,274-square-foot mansion she shares with husband Eric Johnson and their three children—son Ace Knute, 10, and daughters Birdie Mae, 4, and Maxwell Drew, 11—in the Hidden Hills neighborhood of L.A. on the market. 

The move comes after she told E! News in August about how much she was loving Nashville life and how living outside of the heavily paparazzied, high-pressure Hollywood world allowed her to feel less "on guard." The star has famously withstood public prodding into everything from her romantic relationships with exes like Nick Lachey to her weight fluctuations, which she has been open about. Speaking about her love for the Tennessee city, she said:

The pop star decided to turn up the heat this holiday season, and rocked a leopard print swimsuit in her latest Instagram fashion moment, showing there is more than one way to celebrate the winter season.

Both of these pop stars have also been through incredibly difficult personal experiences. As the documentary Framing Britney Spears delved into the #FreeBritney movement (which can be seen with a Hulu subscription), Simpson refused to watch it as she felt she’d be reliving her own story. You can’t blame her as the Newlyweds star said she understood the struggles of trying to live like a human being while under an intense spotlight. 

According to CNN, the “Toxic” singer didn’t want to watch the documentary in full saying the parts she did see made her cry for two weeks, and she wasn’t happy with the light they put her in. 

Jessica Simpson getting easily mistaken for Britney Spears has been common in her career for decades as they’re both in the same field with similar looks. But, at least Simpson can understand why the two are often confused as one another. And if you’re going to be mistaken as anybody, it’s good it’s with someone as gorgeous and talented as Spears is.

Jessica Simpson recently revealed that she’d been mistaken for Britney Spears by an autograph seeker, and she had a pretty funny reaction to the awkward occurrence.

The Dukes of Hazzard actress shared a photo of her and daughter Maxwell looking absolutely shocked at what apparently had just gone down in a parking lot, when someone seems to have mistaken Jessica Simpson for Britney Spears. Check out the Instagram pic below: 

I’d imagine this was a pretty awkward situation for all involved, and I love the expressions on their faces. Jessica Simpson looks low-key offended at the mistaken identity, while 11-year-old Maxwell can’t seem to hide her amusement. It’s too bad they didn’t provide more details from the cringey interaction, and I really hope the fan didn’t show too much disappointment when she looked down at the autograph and saw that it didn’t say “Britney Spears.” 

Did they laugh about the misunderstanding? Did Jessica Simpson go ahead and sign Brit-Brit’s name, as Kelly Clarkson did when a fan mistook her for Carrie Underwood? These are details I kind of need to know!

Either way, Jessica Simpson appears to have handled it with an appropriate amount of humor, documenting the moment with her daughter. I do have to wonder how old the autograph-seeker was, because if they didn’t grow up in the early aughts, they might not be as familiar with the singers’ work, as entertaining has taken a backseat to both women’s personal lives.

Jessica Simpson has even said she’s surprised that she still makes the headlines, as it’s been over a decade since her last studio album (the holiday album Happy Christmas in 2010) and even longer than that since she starred in a movie. Britney Spears also continues to pop up in the news cycle, as she is about to release her tell-all memoir The Woman in Me and is in the process of divorcing her husband Sam Asghari. She’s also drawn concern from her fans several times since the conservatorship her father held over her for 13 years ended in late 2021, most recently by posting Instagram videos in which she was dancing around with knives.

It’s understandable that Jessica Simpson wouldn’t want to get caught up in any of that drama and that she’d want to be recognized for her own achievements, but if you’re going to get confused for someone, Britney Spears — a fellow gorgeous blonde former pop star and actress — probably isn’t the worst-case scenario.

In a different timeline, audiences might have already been enjoying watching Full House vet John Stamos helping tell the story of Jessica Simpson’s life through the adaptation of her memoir Open Book. Alas, the pilot for the potential series was passed on, but fans remain hopeful for Simpson to return to the small screen in some way, shape, or form, seeing as how it’s been more than a decade since her last major TV project. The multi-hyphenate celeb addressed the possibility of that happening, while also speaking to the strengths and joys of shifting from Hollywood to Nashville this past summer to work on her next musical project. 

 Could Jessica Simpson Return To TV?

Outside of a single 2014 ep of Ashlee + Evan and a voice role appearance in Fox's Duncanville last year — where she played herself, obviously —  Jessica Simpson has been largely absent from the small screen. While that doesn't count interviews in the mix, that was precisely the way the That '70s Show vet addressed the possibility of heading up a new unscripted series. Speaking with E! News about becoming a total football mom, Simpson was asked about the chances of a TV return, and she responded with the idea of a show focusing on her family situation, saying:

Jessica Simpson is married to former NFL tight end Eric Johnson, and shares the three aforementioned children with him: daughter Maxwell (11), son Ace (10) and daughter Birdie Mae (4). I can easily imagine Simpson being overshadowed by her two entertainment-ready daughters, which would presumably be a fun watch, especially if they're as self-awarely kooky as she is. And I love that her son is already of the mindset of questioning how reality TV content is anyone else's business. Here's to him maintaining that practicality, even if it's in the same breath as a general request for his mom to return to reality TV. 

Even if that wasn't the ideal way for her to return, Simpson has past experience with judging competition series (Fashion Star and Project Runway), and has also popped up in the past on Dancing with the Stars and The Biggest Loser. So she could very well take on something similar, or perhaps a hosting position, if she so chose. And I mean, she famously auditioned for the Scream franchise early on, so she could very easily slot into a Scream Queen persona easy-peasy. American Horror Story Season 13, perhaps?

Why Jessica Simpson Has Been Loving Nashville Vs. Hollywood

Even if Nashville is predominantly known for county music, it's truly a music-embracing setting on many different fronts, thus making it an ideal spot for some artists to make magic happen. As such, Jessica Simpson packed up some of her stuff from her Los Angeles home and found a house in Nashville to call home for a while. Even though she's had to handle some of the new house duties herself, with Johnson going to and from L.A., the experience has apparently done wonders for her happiness, to the point where her kids called her out on it. Here's how she put it:

Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker were open with fans about their desire to start a family, and their struggle with infertility, including unsuccessful IVF attempts, was documented on The Kardashians. The Poosh founder didn’t need to go the extra mile to make her pregnancy announcement a huge celebratory deal — but she did anyway. 

During one of Barker’s concerts with Blink 182, Kardashian held up a sign that read, “Travis I’m Pregnant,” stopping the show long enough for the drummer to go into the audience to kiss his wife. The Nope star appeared in a buttoned-up, floor-length coat and said she wanted to take the opportunity to address certain rumors. In her words: 

The actress whipped open her jacket to reveal her bump, gushing over the fact that, “I’m gonna be a mom!” Two months after her big SNL moment, Keke Palmer gave birth to Leodis Andrellton Jackson, her first child with Darius Jackson, her partner of two years. 

Prince Harry And Meghan Markle Honor Princess Diana With Valentine’s Day Reveal 

Valentine’s Day is a day for love, so the occasion was definitely appropriate for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to announce that they were expecting their second child back in 2021. However, going public on that day had special meaning for the Duke of Sussex. On February 14, 1984 — 37 years to the day of Harry and Meghan’s announcement — Princess Diana and now-King Charles III revealed that they were expecting their own second child (who, of course, was Harry).  

It wasn’t just the pregnancy announcement that honored Harry’s late mother. When Harry and Meghan’s daughter was born that June, they named her Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor.

Who says moms should get to have all the fun? Queer Eye’s Tan France announced that he and husband Rob were expecting their first child via surrogate in a genius Instagram photo. The fashion guru cradled his “bump,” a.k.a. sonogram photo, as he said this was something the couple had been wanting for many years: 

The way he so modestly covers his bare chest is everything! Their son was born in July 2021, and two years later, in May of 2023, Tan and Rob France announced that they had welcomed a second baby boy, who “completes our little family perfectly,” Tan said. 

Kel Mitchell Celebrates His Wife’s Bun In The Oven 

Look, if you’re known for playing an employee at a fast food burger restaurant, you simply cannot pass up the opportunity for a good “bun in the oven” joke. Kel Mitchell of Good Burger fame and his wife, Asia Lee, fully understood the assignment when they announced that they were expecting their first baby (Mitchell’s third) back in 2017: 

Those of us who grew up in the ‘90s can fully appreciate the references to Kel Mitchell’s famous All That sketch with Kenan Thompson. Good Burger 2 is expected to hit Paramount+ later this year, but it didn’t take that long for Mitchell and Lee to make their own sequel, welcoming their second baby together in 2020.

Using a song she'd recorded ahead of their son's birth in 2010, the "Ironic" singer surprised her husband with a music video that ended with their family of three looking at sonogram photos:

It's so heart-warming to see the joy that goes into couples' pregnancy announcements, be it on live TV, social media, or elsewhere. It's such a treat for their fans, too, to be allowed into such a big moment for these celebrities and their families. Jessica Simpson is undeniably a pop culture icon. While she’ll forever be associated with her prominence in the early ‘00s as a pop star among the likes of Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, and Jennifer Lopez, she continues to be a relevant name that hasn’t left the public’s lips. And apparently, the singer, actress, and fashion designer is baffled by this. 

It’s been over a decade since Simpson’s last studio album and over fifteen years since she last starred in a movie. Here’s what Simpson recently had to say regarding her thoughts about her prominence, with that in mind: 

In a candid interview with Bustle, Simpson spoke about not really being in the spotlight for years, and yet, she is always getting attention anyway. Whether it’s about her daughter being friends with the Kardashian kids or her 100-pound weight loss journey last year, Simpson can’t believe everyone is still paying attention, especially when according to her, she has not “entertained” as of late. 

Simpson does have a point, as she hasn't really had major projects to promote in some time. Back in 2020, Simpson did put out a tell-all memoir called Open Book. In 2021, she bought back her own company after selling it years prior for $117 million. Last year, she had a small voice credit in an episode of the series Duncanville, which can be streamed with a Hulu subscription. It's rather impressive Jessica Simpson remains a public figure!

That probably won’t last much longer considering Simpson is currently contemplating a move to Nashville to reboot her music career. The singer reflected on how being a mother is inspiring her to get back to her love of singing, saying this: 

When Simpson put out Open Book, she also released six songs for those who purchased the audiobook. While speaking to Entertainment Tonight, she shared that music was “everything that inspired me to get sober and write the book.” We’d love to see a Simpson comeback to music! 

Don’t expect to see her on another reality show anytime soon, though. She previously shared that she wouldn’t do it again following Newlyweds with ex Nick Lachey, even though she doesn’t regret it and “had a lot of fun.” No matter what she does, clearly Jessica Simpson has a massive audience who loves following her life. 

Can you believe North West is already 10 years old? I know I can’t, however, what I can believe is the extra and fabulous way the famous family decided to celebrate Kim Kardashian’s oldest daughter. For the double-digit birthday bash, North had the slumber party of dreams as all her friends, and her mom, donned matching pink PJs and partied it up. However, not everyone looked amused, specifically on the party bus they took to the celebration’s location as fans pointed out that Jessica Simpson’s daughter looked “bored.” 

The party took place at the Beverly Hills Hotel according to ET, and to get there the gals hopped in a party bus so they could dance and sing while making their way to their final destination. However, as you can see in the video posted by kardashiansocial it looks like not everyone wanted to jam out to “Party in the USA.” 

One commenter noted Jessica Simpson’s daughter Maxwell Drew specifically as they wrote:

While the mother-daughter duo typically makes TikToks together (especially if they involve North trolling her mom), this post was sentimental and sweet, emphasizing their bond. The silly selfies also feel like the perfect way to wish North a happy birthday. Also, like Kim Kardashian, I can’t believe her daughter is 10 already, it feels like yesterday that she was born. 

Along with Kim K., her sister Kourtney Kardashian was also there with her daughter Penelope. The guest list seemed to be full of famous friends and North's pals so it tracks that Jessica Simpson’s daughter was in attendance. She’s been friends with Kim K. for a long time, and even promotes her brand, as she’s been seen rocking a SKIMS bikini or dress from time to time. Seeing Maxwell Drew at the party re-emphasizes Simpson and Kardashian's friendship.

Both Jessica Simpson and Kim Kardashian know how to rock a bikini and love the swimsuits from SKIMS. Now, right after The Kardashians star announced her new SKIMS models, Jessica Simpson took to Instagram in a neon green swimsuit from her friend's brand, and paired it with a neon pink pair of heels from her own shoe line, and she looked stunning.

Simpson took to IG to do some dual promotion for her collection and her pal’s shapewear and clothing brand. The former pop star can be seen rocking the Basima Platforms in pink from her self-titled brand and the neon green triangle bikini top and bottom from SKIMS. This is not the first time Jessica Simpson has shown her love for the Kardashian’s clothing line, however, it was the perfect Instagram post to not only advertise the two brands, but also welcome summer, check it out:

She really is giving “Neon Energy,” as she wrote in her caption. While 2023 is seemingly shaping up to be the year of the black bikini according to Halle Berry and Sydney Sweeney, Simpson seems to think this year is all about neon and bold colors, and I’m here for it. 

Along with Jessica Simpson, Kim K. herself has also been posting photos in various bikinis this spring, as if she’s manifesting summer. While on vacation with Khloé Kardashian, Kim wore an itty bitty, teeny-weeny two-piece swimsuit. However, she's also been rocking bikinis year-round, as she closed out 2022 with a cheeky bikini post. 

Considering Simpson and Kim Kardashian are good friends, and have been for a while, it makes sense that the singer/actress would rock SKIMS on social media. In the past, she’s been seen out and about in SKIMS maxi dresses and catsuits, per Daily Mail, and now she’s wearing a little more color as she prepares for summer in this neon green bikini and bright pink heels.  

This post comes almost exactly a year after Jessica Simpson posted a bikini progress pick after losing 100 lbs. She has been very open about her weight loss journey, and the post from a year ago noted that she had gained and lost that weight three times in her life. She thanked “hard work,” “determination,” and “self love” as she posed in a pink and orange bikini, and she truly looks like she's thriving, both then and now. Even back then she was serving major “Neon Energy,” as she celebrated her journey.  

Overall, Jessica Simpson is looking absolutely stunning, and her serving a little Kim K. energy was the cherry on top. As we wait for The Kardashians to make its comeback on the 2023 TV schedule and for summer to officially start, this post was a welcome reminder that both are on their way, and Jessica Simpson knows how to rock a bikini.

Denim-on-denim is evidently a fashion trend for Jessica Simpson Style moving forward, and I think it’s safe to say that she looks so amazing in the outfit that it might just catch on with her fans. Not only did she promote the upcoming campaign for her brand, but she delivered the kind of humor that she has become known for on social media. And the comment section isn’t nearly as divided as when she dropped a pic of herself peeing!

The double denim look comes just under a year after Simpson scored a big win with her fashion company. After being created by the artist in 2005 and expanded with a deal with Sequential Brands Group Inc. in 2015, financial troubles at Sequential caused problems for her business and its image. After deciding in 2019 to attempt to get ownership of The Jessica Simpson Collection back, she was finally triumphant in 2022, and told Forbes: 

Along with her mother, Jessica Simpson now has full ownership of The Jessica Simpson Collection. Her comment at the time about never losing faith in herself is especially nice to see after everything she has had to overcome while in the public eye. All in all, the latest updates from Jessica Simpson point toward an artist, wife, and mom who is thriving, including production of a memoir TV pilot. In 2022, she shared that she’ll never get used to people discussing her weight, but got some advice about being asked about her looks from none other than Lynda Carter during their time on Dukes of Hazzard. 

Hopefully Jessica Simpson’s fashion line will thrive as well. I can’t think of a better way to hype the denim-on-denim look than Simpson herself rocking the jean jacket along with a pair of jeans. Who knows? Maybe it’ll be the hot new trend of summer 2023! 

Politics and religion might be the most famous topics to avoid on social media if you don’t feel like arguing, but there are quite a few, far less important ones that always generate way more heat than expected too. Posting pictures of yourself using the bathroom is one, as Jessica Simpson found out earlier this week when she dropped a goofy behind the scenes photo of herself peeing in a tent on set. I’m not sure she realized what she was getting into when she hit send, but her comment section immediately exploded into a heated war with users choosing sides.

Let’s back up and talk about the picture itself first, which isn’t graphic in the slightest. It features the pop star turned reality star turned actress half-squatting in the corner of a tent. The implication of what she’s doing is clear, and the caption hammers that home as it talks about having to go when you have to go. Now, before we continue, I need to disclose I’m team peeing in weird places isn’t that big of a deal. Sometimes you just have to pee in an alley or pull over to the side of the road. It happens, and provided people aren’t being weird about it, it’s funny in a ridiculous kind of way. So, I don’t care that Jessica Simpson peed in a tent, and I don’t care that she posted it on social media. I’m all for having a smile at life’s awkward moments. But everyone does not share my viewpoint, nor Jessica Simpson’s.

Almost immediately after she dropped the peeing picture, her comment section was bombarded with people screaming about how this shot, which shows absolutely nothing, is graphic and inappropriate. And I’m not talking about a few random comments you really have to hunt for. I’m talking tons of comments of people acting like she personally peed on their shoes. Here’s an example that has more than two hundred likes…

Now, I know what you’re thinking. That’s a negative comment, but it’s not exactly a giant middle finger. Well, we’re just getting started. She got hit with plenty of blandly negative comments like the one above, but she also got hit with a lot of far more specific ones, calling into question her classiness, her need for attention and how much further she’d be willing to go. Here’s one asking if she’s about to drop a pooping picture on everyone next…

That comment and its aggressive capitalization resonated with more than a hundred people who liked it. There were also hundreds of additional comments from people who simply dropped responses like “Why?” or “Disgusting.” Someone even took a complete sideswipe and said the picture looks like something “gross” that Kourtney Kardashian would post. Several others also pointed out that Simpson is a “grown woman”, which apparently means she should not be either peeing in tents or peeing in tents and then posting pictures about it.

I didn’t scientifically count, but I would say the responses were pretty evenly split. As seen above, there were plenty calling Simpson out and trying to make her feel bad, but there were also a ton that were very supportive. Some empathized and talked about their own peeing stories. Some yelled at the angry commenters to lighten up and get it together, and others talked about how funny they personally thought the picture was. Here’s one defensive comment that has more than 500 likes…

The great thing about Jessica Simpson is she’s always marched to the beat of her own music. She’s done what she’s wanted to do without letting the haters live her life. That’s been evident in her career choices. It’s been evident in her personal life choices, and it’s evident in how she uses social media. She’s not gonna let some haters influence what she does, especially when people are going to talk regardless of what she does. If she posts a bikini pic, they're gonna talk. If she posts a picture of her seemingly ageless mother, they're gonna talk. So, if she feels like posting another peeing picture in the future, they can just go ahead and talk.

The late ‘90s/early aughts were a great time for pop music, with icons like Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera hitting the scene and boy bands like ‘NSYNC, the Backstreets Boys and 98 Degrees at the height of their game. Jessica Simpson was right there too, and she’s apparently got plenty of tea to spill about things that went down in her young adulthood, including being seduced by a “massive movie star.” As titillating as that story is, though, I can’t stop thinking about her revelations about being pursued by multiple boy-banders, including one who was sleeping in his car.

Jessica Simpson Details Getting Seduced By An A-List Movie Star 

The Dukes of Hazzard star penned a new short story about a red carpet event she attended at the 2001 MTV VMAs afterparty. While standing her ground around the likes of Jennifer Lopez and Ja Rule, Jessica Simpson said she was introduced to a major movie star who was a friend of her security guard. She recalled the celebrity, who was “so hot” and apparently not single, giving her a long hug, and she wrote in Movie Star (per People): 

Jessica Simpson said she was swooning when she realized the “Movie Star” was actually trying to seduce her, recalling that he began talking more softly when he leaned closer to her. She continued: 

While she didn’t give away the A-lister’s identity in the short story, she did confirm to People that “he is still a movie star!" 

Jessica Simpson Reveals ‘NSYNC Boy-Bander Was Sleeping In His Car 

As salacious as her movie star run-in was, it was her side story about another celebrity that really caught my attention from the Movie Star: They Always Say They're Single excerpt. The “With You” singer said that at the time she was broken up from her eventual husband and reality show co-star Nick Lachey of 98 Degrees, and was actually being pursued by both a Backstreet Boy and ‘NSYNC member. While she said she was hoping to avoid the unnamed Backstreet Boy at the VMAs afterparty, she dropped an interesting bit about the other pop star, writing: 

It’s hard to think that in 2001 any member of ‘NSYNC wouldn’t be able to afford his own place, even if money wasn’t always flowing in for the pop stars. It’s also possible the band’s busy tour schedule justified the boybander’s decision not to lay down roots. 

However, are we supposed to believe that one of the biggest names in music at the time was a regular patron of the laundromat? Was he really doing that by choice or trying to save face in front of Jessica Simpson about his financial situation? I would also have assumed that any one of the 'NSYNCers wardrobes back then would have been too expansive (and expensive) to keep in a car. I have so many questions!

Either way, the car life was not appealing to Jessica Simpson, as she said she ended it right then and there, apparently reuniting with Nick Lachey only days later.

Or maybe you’re thinking that the two sisters have mastered the art of Photoshopping older pics of their mom into current shots taken with phones. Or maybe you’re going with a far more obvious assumption: that she sold her eternal soul for a Dorian Gray-esque painting. I’m only kidding, of course, as such thoughts just take credit away from the woman herself, as well as the clearly solid genetics coursing through this family.

To be sure, multiple commenters seemed to be in legitimate denial over believing that Tina Simpson was the pic's birthday girl, as it were, with other commenters chiming in to double down on convincing them. Granted, some of the less savory comments revolved around what kind of medical procedures were necessary to keep that ageless look going, but let's just focus on more of the complimentary responses, shall we?

The horror genre has been experiencing a renaissance for years now, but that wasn’t always the case. Indeed, slashers got new life thanks to Wes Craven’s original Scream movie, which was a massive hit and started a beloved franchise. And it turns out that pop star/businesswoman Jessica Simpson totally auditioned for a role opposite the villainous Ghostface. Here’s the story.

Shortly after the huge box office success of Scream, the studio quickly greenlit a sequel from Wes Craven and writer Kevin Williamson. Scream 2 was cast and shot at a brisk pace in order to get it released less than a year after the original, and included some tragic deaths. Williamson recently spoke to THR about working on that first sequel, revealing that Jessica Simpson actually auditioned for a role. In his words,

Talk about FOMO. Landing a role in the Scream franchise is a dream for many actors out there, and it looks like Jessica Simpson was one of the many hopefuls who were hoping to get in on the bloody fun for the 1997 sequel. This would come years before she actually got to appear in any movie roles, and I have to wonder how her career might have changed if she was cast. 

Kevin Williamson’s comments to THR come as he celebrated the 25th anniversary of Scream 2’s release. News of Jessica Simpson’s audition is sure to turn a few heads, especially considering just how iconic the characters and performances ended up being. Of course, the question is: who exactly could the “Public Affair” singer have played in the beloved slasher flick?

Given Jessica Simpson’s look, many Scream fans might assume that she got to audition for the role of Cece Cooper. The character was famously played by scream queen Sarah Michelle Gellar, who signed onto the project without even reading its script. But luckily Kevin Williamson shared some more insider information, revealing:

Scream 2 fans will know that Williamson is referencing the character Hallie, played to pitch perfection by actress Elise Neal. It turns out that Wes Craven could have brought a bonafide pop star into his sophomore entry into the Scream franchise, but for one reason or another she didn’t get the gig. Although at this point it’s hard to imagine anyone besides Neal playing the role. 

In the end it would take years before Jessica Simpson took movie roles in projects like Dukes of Hazzard and The Love Guru– although she reportedly was offered in the lead of The Notebook. But that doesn’t mean she’s been struggling, as she’s a wildly successful businesswoman, with her clothing brand earning over $1 billion. And hey, with the Scream franchise back in theaters from the filmmakers at Radio Silence, maybe she could end up having a role in a future project. Stranger things have happened.

The upcoming sixth Scream movie is currently expected to arrive in theaters on March 10th (and it’s going to be bloody). We've known for a while that Jessica Simpson’s best-selling memoir Open Book is getting the TV series treatment with a half-hour scripted pilot. The project gained even more bandwidth after scoring Fuller House’s John Stamos. Now, after wrapping up the memoir TV pilot, Simpson praised Stamos while reflecting on stepping back into her past.

Simpson clearly seems to be taking her executive producer role seriously as she shared photos from the final day of shooting the new project. One photo featured an honestly barely-recognizable Stamos giving rockstar vibes of a vein that's a little different than what we expected from Jesse and the Rippers. His look was only surpassed by his performance as the fashion mogul did nothing but heap praise on the TV actor as the pilot wrapped up.

The television personality’s praise for the Full House alum came up on her Instagram and came withe a lengthy caption in which Simpson heaped nothing but praise on the actor. In fact, she claims he "DOMINATED" -- yes that's all caps -- the role.

Viewers might get to see a different side of the Uncle Jessie actor. His entire look alone paints Butch Thorne as a gritty and grungy rocker or over-the-top figure, which follows the character’s persona. His messy tresses, leather pants, and endless jewelry seamlessly channel the character. This new transformation shouldn’t be too surprising, though, as Stamos has tackled differing roles from ER to Scream Queens to his current series Big Shots.   

The pop singer called filming the TV pilot “a week of pure magic.” Simpson mentioned her past incidents from her best-selling memoir wouldn’t have been “remotely comfortable without the genius of our entire cast and crew,” including Stamos. She proceeded to shout them out for allowing her to smile and laugh on the set while bringing her life story to the small screen.

Looking back at her past through the pilot allowed Simpson to review a transitional phase during her mid-twenties. She praised Big Time Rush’s Katelyn Tarver for playing her younger self in the half-hour pilot. Filming the pilot pushed the TV personality to think about the advice she would give her younger self.

Her advice seemed to align with the note Wonder Woman’s Lynda Carter gave her. It will be nice to see if the pilot leads to a series order. Audiences may get to see the potential series deal with the series lead confront the woman who sexually abused Simpson, her feelings about ex-husband Nick Lachey moving on after her divorce, or the former couple's MTV reality series.

The semi-biographical series will see Tarver play Sadie Sparrow who’s on a journey to "self-discovery," per early press on the series. Sparrow will deal with personal issues and the entertainment industry. Stamos will play Butch Thorne, an aging musician whose relationship with Sparrow transitions from professional to romantic. There is no current development on who else will appear in the upcoming series, though it's interesting that Simpson is involved, simply because she hasn't been that stoked about doing more TV in the past, particularly of the autobiographical variety.

It is currently unknown when Open Book hits the air, which will premiere on Amazon Freevee. Until a premiere date is announced, there are still TV premieres to check out in 2022.

Jessica Simpson started her career as a singer and then became a multi-hyphenate thanks to roles in TV shows and movies like The Dukes of Hazzard, her own reality series opposite then-husband Nick Lachey, which included an infamous tuna moment, and oh yeah, her own fashion empire. Meanwhile, however, one subject people always seem to want to talk about regarding the singer has nothing to do with high heels or high-pitches, but with the weight loss and gains Simpson has gone through over the years. One warning really stuck with her through it all thanks to Lynda Carter, however.

In fact, it was Wonder Woman’s Lynda Carter who was the first to tell the “Irresistible” singer this earlier in her career, right after she attached herself to those famous daisy dukes. 

When Extra asked her about often getting asked about her “weight” and “looks” the singer shared:

Carter is another leading lady who is often connected to one major role; even in this piece, I already mentioned the Wonder Woman TV series and little wonder: the actress has since appeared in Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman 2 and will reprise Asteria in Wonder Woman 3. So she knows a thing or two about how a character might follow you around in perpetuity. In Simpson's case, that means comments about short shorts. 

Her comments come after she has been hyping taking back over her Jessica Simpson clothing and accessories brand in recent weeks. The Fall 2022 collection is out now and she’s been sharing plenty of posts of the new fall looks that also just so happen to show off her fitness inspo. The posts are coming after her 100 lb weight loss journey broke the internet back in 2020. 

The singer and mom of three little ones – Maxwell, Birdie and Ace – has been open in the past about her ups and downs. She’s said "a woman's body is phenomenal in what it can do" in regards to her lifestyle choices and changes. (She also has a habit of sharing relatable and funny moments from her life with Eric Johnson and the kids, so she's a good follow even if you aren't interested in weight loss.) 

Even in this interview she got candid about wanting to learn to get her “eating habits right” and get on track when she gained weight again. She may never get used to the chatter, but these days she’s extremely candid about her body being her body and wanting everyone else to feel comfortable and confident no matter their weight. It probably helps her accessible clothing brings in more than a little moolah too.  

Having said all of this, it’s easy to see how people would be interested in Jessica Simpson’s journey. A lot of people can relate to the ups and downs of gaining and losing weight, and even when Jessica Simpson has rocked a bikini in viral posts, there has been a curiosity factor around attaining that bikini body. There are even entire workouts based around getting bikini fit (something Baywatch’s Alexandra Daddario can attest to) and many people are interested in how celebrities stick to goals to get gains. 

Beyond this, she’s always keeping it real, and I think the relatability factor in regards to her journey is also one that keeps it at the forefront. So, pros and cons there. At the end of the day, though she is making "money off of it," and can perhaps laugh off the attention all the way to the bank. 

The end of summer can be the time for vacations and last hurrahs in nice weather, and Jessica Simpson just finished a vacation that looked like a pretty great way to close out August. The singer/actress/author headed to Cabo San Lucas in Mexico for a getaway with husband Eric Johnson, and her photo proof just leaves me wondering if I should be more impressed with the sunset background or her bikini fit. 

Jessica Simpson took to Instagram to share a beautiful sunset on a beach that closed on a trip that she deemed “romantic, sexy and well deserved.” Take a look:

There are actually three things to be impressed about in this pic: the sunset in the background, the fact that Jessica Simpson is adventuring on the sandy beach in high heels, and her level of fitness not too long after she opened up about celebrating her body after losing 100 pounds. It’s also clear from her caption that she’s leaving refreshed from her trip with “a lot of extra passion.” 

This is just one of the latest photos that Simpson has posted to show that she’s happy in her own skin, which wasn’t always the case. She shared another rocking bathing suit photo when she was preparing to turn 40, and hasn’t been afraid to show off her funny side on Instagram as well as the yoga and bikini pics. 

When she turned 42 earlier in the summer, she shared a message on social media about feeling pride for her “faith, resilience, and strength over the last 4 decades.” She shared that she is “humbled and honored to finally be my own best friend” and that she knows her purpose. 

She has also opened up about some of the more difficult times in her life, including when she confronted the woman who sexually abused her as a child. Simpson provided some insight into how she felt when her ex-husband Nick Lachey (now married to NCIS: Hawai’i star Vanessa Lachey) moved on so quickly after their divorce. 

Not long ago, she settled the question of whether she’d want to return to reality TV after her time on Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica, which aired on MTV from 2003-2005. For fans, it’s been nice to see that she’s been so open, both with what she has said and what she’s willing to show of her life on social media, including vacation pics.

It doesn’t get much more early aughts than Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica, which ran on MTV from 2003 to 2005. The reality series followed the marriage between two of the biggest names in the music industry at the time: Jessica Simpson and 98 Degrees’ Nick Lachey. In the intervening years since its cancellation, the couple have divorced and moved on with other people and projects, but their show has retained somewhat of a cult status in popular culture. Simpson now reflects on her and her ex-husband’s claim to fame and reveals whether she’d return to the world of reality TV.

When the show was airing all those years ago, Jessica Simpson was not-so-kindly mocked by the public as just another “dumb blonde.”  And it culminated to a frenzy with her infamous “Chicken…by the Sea” line in one episode. Yet while appearing on The Real, the ex-reality star was surprisingly candid that she holds no bitterness toward that time period of her life, saying:

She continued that she was “so young” during Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica’s popularity (being in her early 20s at the time) and didn’t have a “hold” on who she was as a person yet. But that’s all seemingly changed in the past 20 years. The Dukes of Hazzard actress has in fact built up a billion-dollar retail brand, had three kids with her second husband, Eric Johnson, and been on a seriously impressive weight loss journey in the interim. So with all that camera-worthy content at hand, would Jessica Simpson consider taking on another reality series at this stage? She says:

The businesswoman had hinted as much in 2018 that she was never ever returning to the game of constant filming – based on how she herself was treated in the public eye. And she’s right that reality TV has now evolved much since the days of Newlyweds and The Real World franchise. The newer concept of “storylines” and carefully crafted scenes or trips for drama frequently invite accusations that the shows are actually more scripted in nature.

However, Jessica Simpson is still cursorily connected to the reality TV dominion, whether she wants to be or not. She shared on the daytime talk show of late that her 9-year-old daughter, Max, is actually best friends with Kim Kardashian and Kanye West’s 8-year-old daughter, North. The former MTV star said she was confused when husband Eric was coaching North for basketball and there were no cameras around to document it for the family’s new Hulu show called The Kardashians, as would’ve been the case in Simpson’s heyday.

Apparently, she even point-blank asked the mother of four – who was lately involved in a major social media beef with her ex-husband Kanye West – “How in the world do you guys do this?” She added that it helps that Kim Kardashian is “really open” and “awesome,” along with being a “beast” and “incredible mother.”

Perhaps we might then catch a cameo of Jessica Simpson on The Kardashians (which is streaming now with a Hulu subscription). But clearly, any other reality TV show prospect is not in the cards – as the star is officially retired in that respect.

Jessica Simpson has been a successful figure in the music, movie, and fashion industries and as such, has had all manner of publicity over the years, some of which has poked fun at the star (remember the chicken of the sea debacle?). This public scrutiny would be enough to knock the best of us off our game, and Simpson has certainly had her struggles over the years. However, she's remained successful and has even lost a 100 lbs. recently! She's now opening up about her significant weight loss and is giving all women props by acknowledging how “phenomenal” their bodies are in what they can accomplish.

While speaking with People, Jessica Simpson embraced all the things women’s bodies can do, stating that she always celebrates her body no matter what size she is. After having three children, Simpson has seen her body do some wondrous things. Here is what she says in reverence of the female form:

The pink paisley bikini (part of her own swim collection) is gorgeous, and she paired it with white sunglasses and a cowboy hat (hello, Dukes of Hazzard!). 

Her post isn’t just a celebration of her accomplishment; it’s also pretty inspirational for her fans who might also be on their own weight loss journeys. Many people might not have the determination that it takes to reach that weight loss milestone one time, but Jessica Simpson proved that not only can you achieve that goal, but it’s also possible to get back to it if you don’t maintain the weight loss the first time around. It’s the uplifting kind of message we love to see on social media.

It certainly hasn’t been an easy journey for the singer. She mentioned in the post that she had a “good proud cry” to get some of those emotions out. The mother of three (she shares daughters Maxwell and Birdie and son Ace with husband Eric Johnson) has spoken in the past about her body image, including how pregnancy affected her weight and how hard it’s been to go through such dramatic fluctuations in the public eye. When pop stars from the early aughts band together in solidarity in the year 2021, it’s a beautiful thing to behold. Jessica Simpson, who has parlayed a successful singing and acting career into a $1 billion clothing line, revealed that she refuses to watch the provocative Framing Britney Spears documentary, and for good reason.

Framing Britney Spears confronted a lot of issues that go beyond the purview of just one mega-celebrity. Namely, the documentary actually forced a lot of people, fans and stars alike, to examine their relationships with paparazzi and celeb culture. As for Jessica Simpson, she knows that life of constant scrutiny, which is why she decided to forgo watching the documentary. She said on The Tamron Hall Show:

The rise of Jessica Simpson is, in fact, very similar to that of Britney Spears. Simpson also started her singing career in her teens and had astronomic success. But it wasn’t until her reality show, Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica, that she became the brunt of insensitive jokes about her intelligence ,following her “chicken or fish” comment. The events are strikingly similar to how Spears’ public mental breakdown became the lede for most comedians and spectators at the time.

Jessica Simpson’s refusal to watch Framing Britney Spears to avoid being triggered is a totally understandable decision. But the documentary has also had the reverse effect in some other celebrities who feel comfortable coming forward with their own experiences after watching. For example, actress Bella Thorne expressed that she was “sad” and felt “literally terrible” after watching the Hulu doc and discussed the extent of the public's collective role in how Spears was treated over the last few decades. She said that “we’re all a part of it. That makes it so much more incredulous.”

Kim Kardashian’s response to watching Framing Britney Spears wasn’t so much incredulity as it was recognition, given her own experience being hounded by paparazzi and gossip. She said on Instagram:

The past year has forced all of us to re-evaluate the important things in life. But it took a Hulu documentary about a pop icon’s conservatorship issues for some to consider that celebrities are people with lives, too. Much like Jessica Simpson, hopefully we can all move forward with solidarity and sensitivity to Spears and others in the future.

Jessica Simpson has been in the public eye for a pretty long time, but while many of her fans likely thought they'd heard about most of the ups and downs of the singer / actress / fashion mogul's life, she decided to share her side of those many events, and drop some bombshells about things she'd never spoken about before, when she released her memoir, Open Book, in 2020. Now, that very book is has come out in paperback, and Simpson has revealed even more for it, including her feelings about Nick Lachey moving on so quickly after their divorce.

The paperback edition of Open Book (via Entertainment Tonight), which released on March 23, was updated from the original memoir and now includes several never before seen photos, along with a new introduction. But Jessica Simpson also added some new, handwritten, diary entries to the book, and one of them details her feelings upon finding out that her ex-husband, Nick Lachey, had moved on less than a year after their divorce. As you might imagine, Simpson was quite hurt at the news, and wrote a journal entry which said:

Most people will likely remember that fans got to watch some of the trials and triumphs of the marriage between Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey on Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica, the MTV reality series which followed the couple for three seasons. The series helped to propel the already well-known duo and make the singers household names, but there was trouble for them in real life. They had married in late October 2002, but by mid-December 2005 had filed for divorce, with the process being finalized at the end of June the following year.

Lachey began dating MTV host Vanessa Minnillo in the same year that his divorce from Simpson was finalized, so it makes complete sense that it would have hurt her to know that he had, seemingly, moved on so quickly from their relationship. Anyone who's been through a hard break up will know that moving on can be difficult, but sometimes the hardest part is watching the person you used to be with go on to, apparently, find their happily ever after without you. This would be especially true when it takes less than a year for such a thing to happen.

It's clear from what Jessica Simpson wrote back then that she was very upset over Nick Lachey's ability to move on so fast after she filed for divorce. However, last year while promoting the book, even she was able to put it into some more perspective, noting that there had been tension between them as her star rose, and that they felt additional pressure just from being held up as couple goals, when really they were like any other marrieds, and weren't perfect. She also noted that "we both were at fault in a lot of things," so it sounds like she's been able to fully process everything that happened between them.

Now, of course, both have moved on with their own happy families. Simpson re-married in 2014 and has three young children with her husband, while Lachey and Minnillo married in 2011 and have three kids of their own. Luckily, even though I'm sure the split was hard, both parties have been able to move on and create the lives, and relationships, that they want.

Jessica Simpson is known for many things, ranging from her music career to her reality TV presence to her interviews, but the one legacy that may always be attached to her name is that time she confused chicken and tuna when eating some "Chicken of the Sea" as a snack on Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica back in 2003. Simpson has moved on both from then-husband Nick Lachey and reality TV work, but her response to Subway's tuna controversy was an A+ throwback to her own famous confusion.

A Today news segment about a controversy surrounding Subway's tuna sub brought Jessica Simpson to Twitter with her own fantastic commentary. Take a look:

Kudos to Jessica Simpson for not only acknowledging her very public previous confusion about actual chicken vs. Chicken of the Sea, but making a joke out of it on social media! My favorite part might actually be that she gave no context to her reaction, so anybody who missed the public response to her original comment on Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica back in the day wouldn't get why it was funny.

As for Subway, the fast food franchise had a response to Jessica Simpson consoling them about the confusing nature of fish vs. chicken. In fact, whoever runs Subway's Twitter account managed to carry on the joke while also dropping the disclaimer that Subway tuna fish subs are in fact made with tuna fish instead of mystery ingredients. Subway responded:

Subway may not be using Chicken of the Sea tuna, but the franchise's account made it clear that their tuna is officially not chicken. Maybe if more foods came with such a clear disclaimer, Jessica Simpson wouldn't have immortalized herself in reality TV history for wondering if she was eating chicken or tuna. Instead, the series premiere of Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica featured the moment, and the episode is in fact called "Chicken of the Sea."

That's not to say that Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica on the whole is going to go down as one of the most unforgettable reality TV shows ever produced, and I'm guessing that Jessica Simpson's chicken vs. tuna conflict will outlast anything else that the show delivered over its three seasons. It's good to know that the singer/actress/author can laugh at what happened all the way back in 2003. In fact, the tweet to Subway wasn't even the only recent instance of Simpson poking fun at herself:

I'm not sure I want to know how that chicken wound up in the sea in that image, but I'm definitely glad Jessica Simpson saw it to post on her Instagram! Simpson has used social media to show off her lighthearted side as well as her new yoga body, although that's not to say that the celebrity hasn't opened up and gotten serious about difficult parts of her life. Life in the limelight hasn't always been easy for Simpson, but at least she'll always have the chicken vs. tuna joke in her wheelhouse.

Jessica Simpson broke the Internet a few days ago with a post showing her doing yoga adjacent to a pool, with the sun barely glimmering in the background. Yes, it was a picturesque setting; however, fans on the Internet were pretty well trained on the “I Think I’m In Love With You” singer’s new look and yoga pose. Jessica Simpson has not been shy about her weight loss journey and the struggles she’s faced in recent years, but she recently shed 100 pounds and looks great.

Here’s how she did it, but first, let’s all take one more moment to admire the view. I’m talking about the mountains, obviously. Get your head out of the gutter.

How Jessica Simpson Lost 100 Lbs

First and foremost, Jessica Simpson has been super open in the past about not wanting to give up snacks and comfort foods that she loves, which is something she’s been open about throughout her current weight loss journey, as well. During an interview with E! News she talked about making healthier eating choices but not making things so strict she can’t snack some of the time. She noted:

What she has been doing, alongside consuming way more cauliflower in her diet, is working out with a plan she and her personal trainer created together. Jessica Simpson worked with famed trainer Harley Pasternak, a name those who keep an eye on celebrity fitness may be familiar with. Pasternak has also worked with major stars including Robert Pattinson, Robert Downey Jr., Lady Gaga, Kim Kardashian, Kanye West, Alicia Keys and many, many more.

Harley Pasternak actually came out and spoke about exactly how he got Jessica Simpson back on her fitness journey. He told E! he and Jessica are not fans of any sorts of “extreme diets” or “radical forms of exercise” so they started small and worked their way into more stuff. He noted:

Jessica Simpson noted at the time she had started at 240 pounds and eventually worked her way back to 140 pounds through diet and exercise. Eventually, she went from trying for 6,000 steps a day to working toward 14,000 steps a day as well. That led to full bodyweight training exercises and to targeting specific muscle groups. Now, it seems as if she just does a little extra yoga by the pool for fun to wind down.

She subsequently gained weight for her second and third children, as well. The new yoga post comes one year after Jessica Simpson had her third kid, a daughter she and Eric Johnson named Birdie Mae.

It hasn’t always been easy seeing these fluctuations in the public eye. Jessica Simpson previously told Oprah about how hard it was to see people online and even news outlets commenting on weight she’d gained due to pregnancies.

It was back in September of 2019 that Jessica Simpson felt she was ready to come out and talk about her weight loss journey and achieving her goals without being too hard on herself. Since then she’s done what a lot of individuals struggle to do: maintain a healthy weight without going overboard or gaining back. It’s tough to find that balance, but I guess that’s what yoga in particular is all about.

Jessica Simpson opened up about her life in, out, and before the spotlight earlier this year with a tell-all memoir, and now the singer/author/actress has elaborated on her abusive past. Simpson shared the story of a woman who had sexually abused her when they were both girls, and the heartbreaking account came to a surprising ending about Simpson confronting her abuser.

Speaking with Katherine Schwarzenegger Pratt on The Gift of Forgiveness podcast, Jessica Simpson explained:

Although Jessica Simpson didn't name names or give away a lot of details about what she went through, she did explain on the podcast that the abuse happened at the house of a family friend, when she would have sleepovers with the daughter of the family. When Simpson did finally feel ready to open up to her parents, they supported her and the visits stopped.

According to Jessica Simpson, she went to her former abuser and revealed that she knew that she had been abused as well. The situation was clearly complicated, to say the least. She went on to describe what she told her former abuser, the advice she gave, and how she had come to view what had been done to her. Simpson recounted:

Jessica Simpson shared that she forgave her abuser, and even told her so, then suggested that she talk to somebody to help "heal" from what happened. She also revealed that her abuser stayed as a person in her life, but she felt ready for the confrontation eight years ago.

While Simpson couldn't recall what exactly made that feel like the right time, it was after her divorce when she did "a lot of soul-searching" and was celibate. She knew that she couldn't move forward if she left what she needed to tell her abuser unsaid, because she "left it unsaid for far too long." Simpson even sent her abuser a copy of her book in the hope that it "brings healing."

Jessica Simpson seems to be happy with where her life is at this point. A married mother of three, her book that released in early 2020 hit the top of The New York Times Best Seller List. She posted a rocking bikini photo ahead of her 40th birthday, and she has opened up about other difficult moments in her past, including her infamous Ellen DeGeneres interview when she was struggling with alcohol.

She also said that she would never want another reality TV show back in 2017 and, true to her word, her only reality TV appearance since was an episode of Ashlee+Evan, centered on her sister Ashlee Simpson. Yee-haw indeed! Jessica Simpson went for a bikini-cowboy hat combination for this Instagram picture, and it's definitely not a look that suggests she's bothered that she's leaving her 30s behind. And why should she be, even putting aside the look she's able to pull off? The singer and TV star has moved past some difficult times in the limelight, ranging from an interview with Ellen DeGeneres in 2017 that she "can't even watch" and an awkward appearance on HSN in 2015.

To contrast, Jessica Simpson is seemingly living her best life with her husband and kids, if her Instagram account is anything to go by. It's possible that her decision to step away from reality TV has something to do with her outlook. She explained why she would never want another reality show back in 2018, and she stayed true to that statement. Her only reality TV appearance in recent years was in an episode of her sister's show on E!, called Ashlee + Evan.

A mother of three, Jessica Simspn gave birth to her youngest daughter in 2019 after sharing a photo showing off her baby bump, and in 2020 published her memoir, called Open Book. Jessica Simpson has been a busy bee in recent weeks as she prepares for the release of her upcoming memoir Open Book, but tucked away in stories of her life and relationships is one involving Nick Lachey, an airplane viewing of The Notebook and the story of how Jessica Simpson was allegedly asked to take on the role but turned it down.

So, here’s how Jessica Simpson put it in Open Book (via ET). The singer and occasional actress was on a plane. She and Nick Lachey had just decided to split and she confirmed she was “loudly sobbing in first class.” Then, the plane announced it would be playing The Notebook, which she already knew all about, because she had previously turned the gig down. She said:

Now, look, the Open Book quote doesn’t officially say Jessica Simpson was in the running for the lead Allie role, but if you’ve seen The Notebook, you should know there’s the one major sex scene in the movie between Allie and Noah. She also mentions the sex scene would have been with Ryan Gosling, so the conclusion to draw here is clear.

The scene in question occurs after a romantic boat rowing session on a lake leads to both Noah and Allie getting really wet and needing some help stripping their clothes off when they got back into the house. The whole thing is pretty steamy.

The scene occurs before Allie’s wedding to Lon. She, in fact, basically leaves him to go see Noah and what he is doing with the house he is refurbishing to Allie’s specifications, though they are no longer together. Obviously, Allie and Noah are meant to be together and the audience should be really rooting for the coupling, but also, it's worth pointing out that they do get together under less-than-ideal circumstances.

Jessica Simpson may have been getting divorced to Nick Lachey at the time she was handed the script for The Notebook, but it’s not a real shock that she would be out on a premarital sex scene in a movie. During the early years of her career, she often spoke out about being an advocate for waiting until marriage to have sex.

In her new book she also talks about what it was like to wait to have sex before marriage and how long it took her to realize that having an emotional affair could really be worse, as she details in some quotes related to Johnny Knoxville. Still, her early ideas about sex and what it means in relationships apparently kept her from saying yes to The Notebook.

Regardless, can you even imagine what The Notebook would have been like with Jessica “I know it’s tuna but it says chicken” Simpson in the role? Now granted, stories have come out in the past that Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams really didn’t get along on the set of the 2004 movie, but it's hard to imagine any other two actors in the role. Particularly given at the time this movie was coming together Jessica Simpson was only known on the acting side of showbiz for a role in That '70s Show as a dimwitted girlfriend of Kelso's from California. This gig would have been before she signed on to play Daisy Duke in Dukes of Hazzard in 2005.

This isn't the first time we've heard of casting troubles with The Notebook. The movie also had trouble landing its male lead, and book author Nicholas Sparks previously said it's because Noah's arc in the story is just non-existent. But Ryan Gosling ultimately took the role and it is still one of his most memorable performances today.

It's weird to think Jessica Simpson might have been considered for The Notebook, until you remember the fact a Nicholas Sparks adaptation had similar success with a singer in a lead role in the 2002 movie A Walk To Remember starring Mandy Moore; despite Allie not really needing musical talent in the same way, I wonder if that's where peoples' heads were at. It's hard to tell if Simpson would have landed the role even if she had expressed interest in it, as we don't know what point in casting the movie was in when she got her hands on the script. Regardless, I'd say all's well that ends well. Jessica Simpson went on to land a fashion empire and Rachel McAdams kept taking lead roles of this ilk and has built a whole brand out of being charming, likable and real on the big screen.

Fans who watched Jessica Simpsons on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in May 2017 cracked jokes that maybe Simpson was drunk or on something at the time. The interview was awkward to watch, with Ellen occasionally turning to the camera for "oh boy" looks after some of Simpson's flighty or rambling comments. It wasn't the first time fans thought Simpson might've been inebriated on TV. Turns out, Simpson was going through a rough patch at the time, and now we know that interview was taped during the height of her issues with alcohol.

Jessica Simpson opened up on her addiction to pills and alcohol, and the sexual abuse she suffered as a child, in her new memoir Open Book. It hits shelves on February 4.

Jessica Simpson said her issues with alcohol started years after her struggle with body image. As a teen, she signed to a record label and was told to lose 15 pounds. She went on a crash diet, she told Today, and took diet pills. That was something she ended up doing for 20 years.

When it comes to alcohol, Jessica Simpson told the New York Times she started drinking to calm her nerves while she was dating John Mayer in 2006. She wrote in her memoir that she eventually knew she had a problem, but she didn't confront the issue until 2017. That was more than two years after her doctor told her she had to stop the drinking and pills because they could kill her.

By then, Jessica Simpson was already married to Eric Johnson and they had two of their three children. It was during that year that she appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show and got fans thinking she might have been drinking before the show. Simpson told Today she still can't watch that footage:

According to the New York Times, Jessica Simpson's memoir includes an apology to Ellen DeGeneres and viewers of that episode. She admitted she had been drinking before going on-air.

Jessica Simpson said she kept drinking pretty constantly until she basically hit rock bottom that Halloween 2017. She started drinking at 7 a.m. that morning and got so drunk she couldn't care for the kids, as she told Today:

After that, she realized she "had to surrender." The next day she quit drinking and began working with a therapist. Now she's on a healthier path. That path has also led her to lose 100 pounds after the birth of her third child, thanks to help from celebrity trainer Harley Pasternak.

Although Jessica Simpson still can't watch her Ellen appearance, it might be a good reminder to keep her on a healthy path:

Jessica Simpson's book, which is over 400 pages, also covers her brief marriage to Nick Lachey, so it should certainly give fans a lot of insight into her life.

Ashlee Simpson may be headed back to television with a brand new reality TV show, but don't expect her older sister Jessica Simpson to do the same. The blonde singer is definitely supportive of her sister's new series Ashlee+Evan, but recently said she's absolutely certain she will never return to reality television with a show of her own. Jessica Simpson is likely referring to her time on the unscripted 2003 series Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica, which chronicled her first years of marriage to now ex-husband Nick Lachey. Among other things, the series focused on Simpson's portrayal as being gullible, giving America the impression she fit the "dumb blonde" stereotype. The show also reportedly added additional tension to the couple's marriage, which ended not long after the reality series concluded filming Season 3. Simpson understands more than most just how invasive and manipulative reality television can be, and thus has no interest in bringing cameras into her life again to record her every move.

Ashlee Simpson likely understands her sister's misgivings about reality television better than the public can, which may be why Jessica told ET she was shocked to hear her sister (who had an embarrassing television moment of her own) was doing Ashlee+Evan:

Ashlee Simpson is apparently confident enough in her marriage and her current life at the moment to let the cameras capture whatever they have for the six-episode "docu-drama." As Jessica Simpson mentioned, the younger celeb already had her own reality series, The Ashlee Simpson Show, over a decade ago; she had a couple of appearances on Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica as well. Jessica will indeed return the favor by appearing on a couple episodes in the back half of Ashlee+Evan, so it's not as though she's completely against any and all appearances. Jessica Simpson, a celebrity not exactly known for her eloquence and ability to quote Proust on command, took things up (or down) a notch on HSN on Thursday evening, when she appeared to be intoxicated in some way while advertising her clothing collection’s “Kiss Me” Super Skinny Gray Jeans. She definitely wasn’t speaking concisely, as she told a story about how her sister Ashlee and her husband Evan Ross wear each other’s jeans, and how she thinks gray jeans are sexy. But was the slurring and verbal misfiring actually because of behind-the-scenes drinking, or was it something more innocent, like a gas leak inside the studio that only affected Simpson? As far as Twitter and the rest of the Internet was concerned, she was probably trashed.

But as you can imagine, those close to Simpson are saying that this wasn’t the case at all, and that she wasn’t imbibing during the two-hour taping. According to TMZ, sources said that Simpson’s “giggling and slurring is just a part of her personality that surfaces from time to time,” and that she was mostly lucid and normal for the rest of the segment. I mean, live TV is almost never entirely perfect, especially when you’re basically talking about the same thing over and over again, as it happens on HSN. So this could absolutely just be a case of Simpson being more bubbly than normal.

For their part, HSN isn’t interested in even talking about what anyone thinks about Jessica Simpson’s state of mind, and they only wanted to enforce the fact that they enjoyed working with her. Here was their statement.

Money definitely talks in a situation like this, and money never slurs. Of course, I don’t really understand why people would have a problem with Simpson knocking back a couple of margaritas before going on the air anyway. The prospect of hocking goods for two hours on TV doesn’t seem like the easiest thing to do without mental lubrication.

I’m not sure why so many people find said activity to be an acceptable use of time, but regardless, it does happen and thanks to Jimmy Kimmel, it’s now an incredible source of entertainment for everyone.

Rather than getting upset about the comments, Kimmel decided last year to bring together as many celebrities as he could to read a vicious tweet they’d received. The segment was hysterical, and it wound up getting such a good response he’s brought it back three more times. This week was the latest installment, and the new version features a wide assortment of famous faces including Jessica Alba, Jessica Simpson, Kid Rock and Julie Bowen.

Some celebrities think the best way to deal with Twitter criticism is to retweet the comments, but more often than not, that only adds fuel to the fire. This, on the other hand, is a great way to own the hate in a good-natured manner without seeming desperate or jilted.

Kimmel has many talents, but one of them is most definitely dealing with tricky subjects without coming across as mean. His Lie Witness News segments always come off like they’re in good fun and Mean Tweets definitely treads over the same ground. Here's to hoping the show does it again.

It might seem strange that Jessica and Nick don’t even speak on occasion, but it’s not like they run in the same social circles. Of course, since Nick hasn’t spoken with Jessica in 6 years, it’s likely he has no more information than any of us do. Deep down, however, I’m sure he’s pretty damn happy about that. Often, the best way to move on is to make a completely clean break both emotionally and physically.

Jessica Simpson may be returning to television, this time in a comedy that will be loosely based on her own life. In what is actually her second attempt to break into sitcoms, Simpson has signed on to do a pilot for NBC, playing a version of herself.

Jessica’s television career has mostly been in reality; she spent three years doing Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica, a show that focused on her marriage to Nick Lachey, and managed to earn herself a reputation for being something of a stereotypical dumb blonde. Back in 2004 Simpson made her first attempt at a sitcom with the self-titled pilot Jessica, which in the end didn’t go to series. She’s done some films as well, including the Dukes of Hazzard movie based on the 1970s’s TV series. Since then she’s been busy with her fashion line and motherhood, but it seems she’s now ready to give television another try.

The show will focus on Simpson’s busy life as a new mom running her fashion line and dealing with it all in the public eye, which NBC hopes “will get audiences laughing out loud”, according to THR. The pilot is being written by Nick Bakay (Til Death) who will executive produce along with Ben Silverman of Electus and Simpson’s ever-present father and manager Joe Simpson.

So far, Jessica Simpson’s new television project is without a name, but hopefully it will be a little more creative this time around. Since Simpson is currently pregnant with her second child, it will be interesting to see if this one gets rushed along or put on the slow track until she has the baby.

Scrubs’ Donald Faison tied the knot last night, marrying CaCee Cobb, the friend and former personal assistant of Jessica Simpson. The marriage was performed in Los Angeles at Faison’s buddy Zach Braff’s home, with a party occurring afterward. Both Cobb and Faison have some pretty famous friends, and plenty of their partygoers, including Braff and Simpson, were in attendance.

Early this morning, Simpson tweeted a few details about the wedding, including the fact that she had had the honor of being a bridesmaid. Simpson wore a classic black dress and carried a bouquet of red flowers and, according to People, her famous sister, Ashlee Simpson, was in attendance, as well.

Simpson wasn’t the only celebrity tweeting up a storm. Additionally, Braff got into the action, using Twitter to show fans a picture of the happy couple, which was quite selfless, really. In the wedding, the groom and groomsmen wore professional black and the bride opted for a pretty—and extremely fluffy--gown. Faison and Cobbs dated for six years before getting engaged, and spent more than a year putting together a big celebration. From the looks of things, the wedding turned out just as nicely as it was planned.
