Jinger Duggar Vuolo has been more and more candid about growing up in the Duggar family since her book Becoming Free Indeed became a bestseller. As part of telling her story, she’s opened up on topics as varied as her upbringing with Jim Bob and Michelle and even her thoughts on brother Josh Duggar’s arrest and subsequent incarceration. Now someone’s asked her the really hard-hitting question: What happened when she decided to wear pants? 

Seriously, though, the Duggar daughters were seen in skirts through the entirety of their notable reality show 19 Kids and Counting. Not wearing pants was a modesty tenet they lived by, and while seemingly even Michelle Duggar has changed her mind about pants in more recent years, when Jinger Duggar made the change, she admitted it was a big deal for her family. 

While it may not be something that fans can easily identify with, the change was a huge deal for her. Speaking on The Unplanned Podcast, Jinger Duggar Vuolo and her husband Jeremy spoke out about what living life in the public eye has in general been like when it comes to changes in their personal lives. For example, when Jinger decided to switch up the types of bottoms she allowed herself to wear, she knew paparazzi would catch them in action, and she wanted to give her parents the benefit of understanding where she was coming from.

Jinger and Jeremy both said they have a “great community” where they live after their big move to California and they sometimes ask advice of “other people” they know in their church. But they still want to loop in her parents, even if they aren’t always asking for permission. 

So while she maybe isn’t taking advice from her parents as often these days, she wanted to make it clear she is in a "healthy" place with Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar. Her goal is to show them she’s still a caring daughter, “even if [they] have differences.” But on that note, she did want to point out:

Jinger has even worn shorts as part of her journey, and her sister, Jill, previously spoke out about switching to pants, too. Though in her case she said she had a tough time making the swap, as she’d been conditioned to wear skirts. She said pants “felt wrong” at first, but ultimately she came around, and now has more choice when it comes to her own wardrobe, as well. The times, they are a'changing for the Duggar daughters.

If you know much about the Duggar family, you may already know the clan generally sticks to a strict set of rules about expected norms and behaviors. These rules come from the "harmful" (per Jinger) IBLP teachings and standards set by Jim Bob and Michelle themselves, which is why it was surprising when eagle-eyed fans recently caught two Duggars seemingly drinking tiki cocktails. 

Recently, Duggar sibling John and his wife Abbie took a sweet-looking trip to Cabo San Lucas. The two were seen doing a lot of activities you’d expect from such a trip, and that includes engaging in some tiki drinks. In a pic in thread, you can see them drinking the cocktails. 

Of course, John Duggar did not mention what was in the drinks, so there’s a chance they were mocktails, but the pic is interesting given the stance the famous 19 Kids and Counting family have had on alcohol in the past, and what’s been changing in terms of beliefs in recent years. 

In Growing Up Duggar, several anecdotes are shared about drinking, including a young man who got into a rolling car accident after a night out partying and ended up with brain damage and a second young man who tried to avoid drinking before succumbing to peer pressure and ultimately getting into drugs. The Duggar book says: 

In fact, Michelle Duggar once campaigned against beer sales being allowed at a mart near their house, saying alcohol shouldn’t “be convenient.” So drinking was definitely on the outs just a few years ago. However, it’s not outside of the realm of reason that there’s a little extra kick in the tiki drinks in question, as some other Duggars have admitted they’ve relaxed their stance on alcohol more recently. Here’s what we know. 

Duggar Rules Have Changed Over Time

A few scant years ago, it was big news when Jessa Duggar was seen in a pair of pants in a YouTube video. However, the no-pants rule, which was explained in the book Growing Up Duggar, came from general feelings about modesty and about “not draw[ing] attention to the wrong places.” Over time, clearly those feelings have relaxed, as last year we even saw Mom Michelle Duggar in pants in a family photo. 

While the pants rule has seemingly changed across the board, feelings on alcohol have definitely softened as well, and several of the Duggar sisters either occasionally indulge or are seemingly less stressed out about the idea of indulging.  

How Jill And Jinger Duggar Feel About Drinking

Jill was the latest to publish a book on the Duggars, and she’s been speaking out a lot about her family life and beliefs post TLC. Jill said she has “boundaries” when it comes to alcohol, and also mentioned her family would likely disapprove of she and husband Derick’s choices, but also said no one had straight up “said anything” to them about it. 

It's an interesting comment, given Jill has also said dad Jim Bob got "combative" when she wasn't falling in line in regards to other family ideals. So it's surprising to hear she hasn't taken flak for alcohol use.

Meanwhile, her sister Jinger is a non-drinker, but she no longer agrees with the teachings her famous parents shared with her, either, also opening up in an interview with People to say: 

So it seems like the kids’ takes on drinking completely run the gamut these days, and whether or not there was a bit of alcohol in John and his wife’s drinks, it is clear they were indulging in a meal responsibly at a resort.

Jill Duggar Dillard  is sharing her truth. While there’s nothing Duggar heading to the TV schedule in the near future, the mom of two has kept busy and has been on a press tour with her husband Derick Dillard in recent months in support of her book Counting The Cost. The book became a New York Times bestseller and has been a topic of conversation in recent months, and now Jill is expanding out on some of the stuff she wrote about in her book, including her father’s control over her life, as well as the Duggar family estrangement that’s been rumored. 

The TLC Reality Issues That Sparked The Rumors

Jill has been candid already about her father Jim Bob Duggar allegedly avoiding paying her and her siblings for their work on the TLC shows. She's also spoken about how her husband Derick threatened to file a protective order when she was being tasked to do things and reportedly not given much of a choice about filming Counting On and other familial obligations. Now, in a new podcast interview, she explained that it wasn’t just a “control” issue her parents had; she believes they truly felt her “salvation” was being jeopardized, telling Unplanned Podcast:

While Jill contends she – just like her sister Jinger – had some positive experiences growing up Duggar, her husband Derick confirmed the issues they had with not being paid for showing off major life events such as their wedding and the births of Duggar sibling babies was what took things over the edge and led to major issues with Jim Bob and Michelle.

So, it's clear things have been tense, but where does the family stand after Jill published her memoir? 

Are Jill And Derick Estranged From Jim Bob And Michelle? 

She and Derick admitted they aren’t fully “estranged” from her parents. That's not to say things are all gravy, either. Relations have certainly been tense, but in the podcast interview she also did have positive things to say about the way her parents raised her. However, it has been over a year since Jill has seen both of her parents together -- before she published her book. 

She's certainly seen her mom at least once in the past year, as a viral picture of Michelle Duggar wearing pants at an all-girls Duggar reunion made the rounds last spring. In that time window, Jill also noted she's seen several of her siblings but has to know “what am I up for emotionally” when she meets with members of her family. 

She said that “trauma” and “triggers” do impact her family relationships, but she noted she wrote the book hoping that maybe the book will be a “resource” for her siblings and others in the IBLP community down the line. But she does have a message for her parents even though she only sees them rarely: 

Still, they won't go back to how things were before. Derick said the book title wasn't a misnomer; they really do "count the cost" daily about what their actions took and why they made the choices they did. Jill also said that she has hopes her book will be a resource down the line for anyone questioning the IBLP and its dynamics. At the end of the day, she won't "trade ignorance is bliss" for the life she has now.

The story goes like this. When Derick Dillard met Jill he had come to the family home as part of a Christmas caroling group. It was Christmas 2011 and she was 20 years old. The couple got engaged in 2013 and married in 2014; their first child was born in 2015. They have three sons together. These are the major beats that make up their journey, but the part of the story that I find most interesting has to do with Derick, a prayer chain, and none other than Jim Bob Duggar.  

As part of the podcast “Reality Life With Kate Casey” the couple spoke out about how it was the famous Duggar family connection that led them to a life together, also noting how Jim Bob was a key piece in their meet-cute and early romance. Yes, Jim Bob Duggar, who reportedly doesn’t get along with Derick, first encouraged him to date his daughter. Per the former missionary:

While the Christmas carol story is a topic both Jill and Derick have spoken about in the past, I had no idea that it was really Jim Bob who had spurred a connection between the reality couple. Derick confirmed it in his interview with Kate Casey’s podcast and he also explained that the connection with Jim Bob was really spurred when he decided to go to Nepal for a few years. Initially, he expected the prayer chain would be the extent of their relationship, but that didn’t turn out to be the case.

How Jim Bob Duggar Encouraged A Romance Between Jill and Derick

Jill also said it was her dad who “kind of introduced us or set us up.” Sure, they’d met at this infamous Christmas carol event, but it actually took Derick going thousands of miles away for a romance to spark. While he was away in Nepal (and traveling to various other places such as Japan), Derdick noted it was Jim Bob who really seemed to care what he was doing and check in, but there seems to perhaps have been a secondary agenda as well.

He took Jim Bob’s advice. They ended up Skyping several times while he was still living abroad, and those calls went so well they ended up on video for about five and a half hours apiece.

Jim Bob’s Relationship With Jill And Derick Dillard

Unfortunately, while there was support from Jim Bob early on, the couple’s relationship with the family patriarch took a downtick years later when the two were filming Counting On. They had a dispute over reality pay from TLC, which strained relations at first. In the time since, Jill has worn pants and taken other steps to be more of an independent person. The last straw may have been when Jill ultimately decided to publish Counting The Cost, a tell-all about her experiences growing up Duggar.  

She recently revealed she has basically been estranged from the Duggar family for the most part, though she does attend major family events and has good relationships with some of her siblings. (Not her brother Josh, who is currently incarcerated and shunning Jill from prison.) It's unclear if time will heal these struggles within the family, but from now on it at least sounds like Jill and her husband plan to be publicly open about their past experiences and the path forward.

Over a month after the publication of Jill Duggar Dillard’s latest slice of authorship, the memoir Counting the Cost, it doesn’t appear as if the rifts between the former reality TV star and her famous father are going away anytime soon, even if she would be welcome to the idea of potentially squashing their beef in time. The autobiographical work kicked up quite a bit of dust with its claims that the family patriarch and matriarch Jim Bob and Michelle treated her worse than her “pedophile” brother Josh, but it was hardly the extent of the negative treatment she’s talked about dealing with for much of her life. And now she’s opened up about things getting testy enough that her husband Derick Dillard had to threaten legal action. 

For all the strife that’s been at the core of the Duggar family in recent years, Josh Duggar’s arrest and conviction have seemingly been the extent of the family relying on the law to handle their problems. But it sounds like there was at least a looming warning that such an outcome was possible, according to Jill Duggar Dillard. She appeared on the podcast Vulnerable to talk with host Christy Carlson Romano about her memoir and the family history that inspired its text. The 32-year-old discussed how she and Derick first got together under the watchful eyes of her father, and when asked about her hubby’s current relationship with Jim Bob, Jill answered with:

It’s unclear exactly what kind of timeline Jill is referring to by saying this convo between Derick and Jim Bob happened “more recently,” but it feasibly could have happened at any point in the past few years, with the younger married couple having made strides to distance themselves from the bulk of the clan back in 2020. But it certainly could have been in the past year, as various Duggar family members were thrust back into the spotlight with the release of the docuseries Shiny Happy People: Duggar Family Secrets (available to stream with an Amazon Prime subscription), which Jim Bob and Michelle spoke out against. 

Whatever the time frame, it sounds like Derick Dillard was not happy about his father-in-law’s attempts to reach out to his daughter, which would imply that said attempts were a bit more involved than just catching up over a cup of coffee. Regardless of the reasoning, the threat was made, and that may have been the last bit of noteworthy communication between the two families. 

Jill Duggar Dillard continued, saying there’s a world in which relationships can be rekindled, even if they’re not at that point just yet. In her words:

Who knows if time will heal all wounds within the Duggar family? It may require at least a full year without any bombshell-dropping docuseries or memoirs being released to the public. And it’s not just her parents that Jill hasn’t been communicating with regularly. Following the release of her memoir, she also opened up about where things are with the currently imprisoned brother Josh, and said she attempted to send him a handmade Christmas card near the end of 2022, but it was sent back, which she took to mean he’d rejected the card outright.

Though Counting On was canceled in 2021 after 11 seasons — with Jill and Derick Dillard having left the series back in 2017 — but repeats can be streamed on Discovery+, while the memoir Counting the Cost is available for purchase from all major retailers.

If you’ve been following the stories running around after the release of Jill Duggar Dillard’s Counting The Cost, you probably already know that she dropped some bombshells about her pay on Counting On and about how her dad treated her and her husband Derick in general. So, I suppose given all the comments she’s made, it wouldn’t be a huge surprise to hear that Jim Bob Duggar is “seething” following the release of the latest Duggar family book. However, Jill just explained the reality is a whole lot more complicated.

What’s Reportedly Going On Behind-The-Scenes After The Release Of Counting The Cost

This week, a source spoke with In Touch and claimed that what the public has been seeing from Jim Bob and Michelle’s response to Counting the Cost has only been the half of it. That same insider, who spoke anonymously, noted the two famous parents are allegedly “seething” and even compared their feelings toward Jill’s book with Josh’s scandal that landed him in prison for a decade. 

That’s a memorable comparison, but is it legitimate? 

Jill did make a lot of claims in her recently published book. Among them, she said that her father didn’t pay her for her work on Counting On until she forced a conversation. She also wrote that her dad disapproved of her and other Duggar daughters wearing pants, and even told her father he treated her “worse” than her “pedophile” brother Josh. But if you were to ask her, she has different thoughts about her family dynamics right now.

What Jill Duggar Said About The ‘Complicated’ Duggar Relationships Right Now

Meanwhile, Jill has been on the interview circuit to drum up press for her new book, and she had her own comments about her relationship with Jim Bob and Michelle. She noted in an interview with ET that her relationship with her parents has been “hard” and “not comfortable.” However, contrary to what you might be expecting, she is still seeing her parents a fair amount.

She also noted it’s been easier for her and her mom to connect on some level, because her mother is the person who is able to just be “grandmother” in certain situations without tensions coming up. She got real about it not just being herself and Derick who have to put on a good face at weddings and other events. She noted of her relationships with her family:

It’s not just Jill and Jim Bob who have dealt with tensions. The family was allegedly divided after tensions arose between Anna and other family members at home following Josh’s child abuse materials trial. The reality TV money ended when Counting On was canceled and even with the release of Jinger and Jill’s books, some family members have been supportive while others have liked negative comments online.

We'll have to wait and see if any other family members comment on what's reportedly going on behind the scenes.

The Duggar family has been in the news a lot over the past year, thanks to books written by Jinger Duggar Vuolo and Jill Duggar Dillard. While Becoming Free Indeed came out earlier in 2023, Jill is currently doing press for her own Counting The Cost book. Needless to say, some fans have claimed her fellow author sister hasn’t been supportive of the new hard back title. Jill has some choice thoughts about these fans, but what about her other siblings?

In a post earlier this week, Jill Duggar shared a look back at the creation and completion of her memoir through a post that featured video snippets and stills. A lot of fans were supportive of her new book, but one of these fans noted in the comments:

The timing on the fan comment is interesting, as it was just a few days ago that Jill’s sister Jessa actually set the record straight and mentioned she and her sister Jinger still get along after similar claims were made. (Though she did not mention her other sister Jill.) However, in the case of Jinger and Jill, it was the latter who actually set the record straight on her own Instagram post. Per Jill Duggar Dillard, Jinger has been supportive of her book. 

The reason these comments seem to be running around seemingly has to do with the subject matter of both books. While Jinger’s book was critical of the IBLP practices she grew up in and while she commented on her incarcerated brother Josh Duggar during the promotion of that book, she was less harsh about her famous parents, siblings and reality TV appearances. Oppositely, Jill in her book has called out her father Jim Bob Duggar for keeping money from her, among other issues from the days she was on Counting On and other shows, and so it’s no real surprise some of this has spawned rumors, particularly given fans caught her brother Jed liking negative comments about her book in the past. 

While the latest comment from Jill seems to clear the air on some of the older sisters in the Duggar family,  interestingly the question of some of Jill’s other siblings is still up in the air. There’s the Jed stuff above, in which he “liked” posts from fans  and rumors are still swirling that Jana Duggar and Jill are perhaps not on the best terms either, after the latter was asked about it in a Q&A. Jill didn’t get specific about Jana, but she did note that growing away from the IBLP is a “process,” hinting that some of her siblings aren’t in the same place as she is.

Jill’s husband Derick Dillard has admitted they are "distancing" themselves from most of the family, though they have had positive things to say about Jinger in the past too. We’ll have to wait and see if over time, some of this friction smooths out, or if part of the cost Jill is counting has to do with these Duggar family relationships longterm.

Jill Duggar has opened up about how she’s been “counting the cost” after choosing to come forward with her feelings about the famous Duggar family. Her debut autobiography, in fact, chose Counting The Cost as the main component of its title, and in it and subsequent interviews Jill has gotten candid about the limited money she made even while becoming a household name. 

The paltry amount? $175k. 

Let’s address the elephant in the room. At the outset $175K may sound like a lot, but Duggar writes in her book that the money was split across 10 seasons of reality TV. She filmed nearly 200 episodes and two dozen specials for TLC during her time as a reality TV star --including filming her own wedding -- and in all that time, the money she made was $175K.

In comparison, her father Jim Bob Duggar has been alleged to have been making upwards of $850k per year for work on Counting On and TLC’s previous series 19 Kids and Counting, though sources reported at the time he was handing at least a chunk of that money out to family members. Jill claims in her book her dad pocketed at least $8 million from the show.

The exact figures are murky, however, given the numbers for TLC shows are often guesstimates. For example, an agent told Business Insider a few years ago that reality TV salaries range from $1,500-$3,000 per episode on the low end and $7,000-$10,000 on the high end – unless you end up at the “Kardashian Level” and are able to negotiate a better deal. In the case of the Duggars, Jim Bob was in charge of the money and was allegedly doling it out as he saw fit. 

Jill Duggar recently said in her book that she thought that’s just how things were done in the TV business. It actually took her friends looking out for her to figure out that what was happening with her TV situation was not normal. She told People: 

But why would Jill have just bought into this narrative that Jim Bob could hand her whatever he wanted and there wouldn’t be a deal? She’d said in another interview that her dad had given her a reality TV contract that was incomplete and she really hadn’t known any better. In her ignorance, she’d signed whatever her father put in front of her, and she’d actually thought he was doing a good thing for her, noting:

A lot of the stuff that might have seemed obvious to her friend was not obvious to Jill at the time. In fact, a lot of the relationships she had with her family revolved around what her husband Derick terms "toxic patriarchy," or the idea that adult parents should still have control over their grown children, as he also mentioned to GMA. Jill said in that interview she now feels she was "tricked" into her Counting On contract, and Derick took that assertion a step further.

Obviously there’s been a big dent in the family’s income as a whole after Counting On was cancelled by TLC following Josh Duggar’s arrest by federal agents. But perhaps the worst thing for Jill? Her standing up for what she feels is the right thing to do has cost her dearly.

What Jill Duggar Said About Her Parents In Her Upcoming Book?

Over the course of this past year alone, Jill Duggar Dillard has made a number of pointed statements in regard to her family and its former TV show. On a specific occasion, she claimed she wasn’t paid for being on the series. She also opened up about the “suicide mission” that was her and husband Derek Dillard’s 2015 interview with Meygn Kelly, during which she defended Josh, apparently at the behest of her father. But much of that energy has been channeled into her book, Counting the Cost, which hit bookshelves this week. 

People obtained an exclusive excerpt, which details a particularly tense-sounding moment between the author and her parents that apparently occurred amid the height of their disputes. The three – along with Derek Dillard – attended a mediation session, during which Jim Bob Duggar allegedly took issue with Jill for accusing him of being verbally abusive towards her. Jill recalled being “nervous” over that declaration, which she’d apparently sent in a text message. When she hesitated to give a response when her father asked if she’d apologize, the Duggar patriarch apparently lashed out: 

Jill Duggar Dillard described her father’s words as being “like blows” and that she subsequently tried to protect herself and “block him out.” From there, Jim Bob allegedly pointed his finger at her and yelled, “You’re guilty,” while Michele apparently cried. Jill writes that she eventually responded to her father and made that claim about him treating her worse than Josh:

Since her book was announced, Jill Duggar Dillard hasn’t held back when talking about the work that’s gone into it. She even admitted to hauling the manuscript around in a plastic bag while making final edits. As the book becomes available for the masses and people start analyzing her account, her parents had some thoughts to share.

How Did Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar React To Accusations That Have Been Made?

Jim Bob Duggar was taking flak even before details of his daughter’s book started making the rounds. He also faced backlash amid the release of the documentary Shiny Happy People, which features accounts from multiple family members. The patriarch, along with his wife, didn’t specifically address that reported moment with Jill when they released a statement to People. However, they did shoot down the notion of there be any kind of conflict between them and their children: 

As of this writing, Jill Duggar Dillard has yet to respond to the sentiment above. All the while, Josh Duggar is in prison and isn’t expected to be released until 2032. He’ll have 20 years of probation to serve after prison. Though he’s been denied a new trial, it seems as though his legal team is still looking to “petition for a rehearing.”

It’s been more than a year since Josh Duggar officially surrendered to a federal prison after being found guilty and sentenced on counts of receiving and possessing child abuse materials. The former 19 Kids and Counting star’s team had vowed to appeal at the time his court case finished playing out, and that’s exactly what happened. Though he was denied a request for a new trial, it sounds like the Duggar family is not giving up. 

What Happened With Josh Duggar’s Team’s Denied Trial Request

It was just a short while ago that Josh Duggar’s legal team saw a setback in the form of being denied a request for a new trial. While the former TV star’s lawyers argued some evidence that had been brought up during the course of his trial should have been inadmissible due to circumstances –those being that Josh allegedly was denied legal representation when the used car lot was initially investigated before his arrest – the court that wrote the opinion seemingly disagreed.

The opinion that was ultimately filed about the reality star’s request for a new trial mentioned that some of the arguments that Duggar’s legal team had made did not necessarily corroborate with the evidence. For example, his legal team had argued counsel should have been present, but the opinion stated the government had taken steps to explain his rights to him.

The court's decision to deny a new trial hinged on the following: 

In addition, reports about the incident mentioned that Josh had "voluntarily acquiesced" to questioning and that he was the person who had reportedly kicked off the interview portion of the conversation when he himself asked the officers who were present: 'Has somebody been downloading child pornography?'

Even though the bid to attempt to get him a new trial did not work, his legal team isn't finished yet. 

What Duggar’s Legal Team Is Reportedly Planning Next

In the days after the trial request, Josh Duggar’s lawyer filed for an “extension,” citing at the time that he has had struggles with working with his client. His reported reasoning, per the paperwork (via The Sun), mentions the difficulties between communicating across state lines. 

While Josh Duggar’s trial occurred in Arkansas, he was ultimately incarcerated at FCI Seagoville, which is located in Texas. His legal team reportedly wants to file a “petition for rehearing,” but there have allegedly been difficulties in communication in order to make this happen. The legal team wrote: 

Duggar’s lawyer requested an additional 14 days, which was reportedly granted.

Interestingly, while Duggars' legal team is still being funded, there have been separate rumors swirling about the Duggar family having some monetary problems now that the (reported) cash cow that was TLC shows such as Counting On and 19 Kids and Counting are over. While some of the family members have shifted to sponsored posts on social media and writing Duggar-related books in order to make money, it has been alleged that patriarch Jim Bob was pocketing a significant amount of the reality TV money. While none of this has been confirmed and Jim Bob has other business, it’s certainly true the reality TV windfall is now over. 

In the face of this, how long the family will continue to pursue legal avenues remains a question. If nothing to the contrary happens, Josh Duggar is already expected to be released from prison in the fall of 2032, and will begin serving 20 years of probation at that time. 

Jinger Duggar Vuolo has been very vocal in recent months about her upbringing, both from a TLC reality TV perspective and as a former believer of Bill Gothard’s IBLP principles. A formerly “devout” member of the community, Vuolo has spread her wings in recent years, moving to Los Angeles with her husband Jeremy Vuolo and their two kids and even becoming one Duggar lady who will wear shorts on occasion. Now, she’s opening up about growing up in the Duggar Family with all of its good stuff and bad stuff. 

Jinger Duggar Vuolo has been doing press for a while after her book Becoming Free Indeed was published in early 2023. The mom of two recently met with Mayim Bialik for a podcast interview. In it, the Jeopardy! host made some comparisons between her own Judaism upbringing and the faith that Jinger followed. The two got into a discussion about the IBLP, her upbringing and her memories with Jim Bob and Michelle.

The 'Sad' Part Of Growing Up Duggar

Jinger said she currently sees ideals that Gothard taught – like not going into debt to buy a house and not believing in family planning, including natural family planning – to be destructive.

But there was a time she was very “devout.” She mentioned an incident in which her journal had been stolen from her room while 19 Kids and Counting was filming and how it led her to believe she couldn’t be “so raw” or honest about her feelings. But she says she bought into the IBLP in her teens, hook, line and sinker, noting.

It took a toll, however. In a separate portion of her conversation, Duggar Vuolo admitted that while her parents always made an effort with their kids, there was a part of her that struggled because she couldn’t name or identify why she was feeling “anxiety” and other emotions related to her upbringing. She’s previously identified the IBLP as bringing “fear” to her growing up experience.

Still, it wasn’t all so bad. 

Sweet Memories Jinger Remembers Having With Jim Bob And Michelle 

A lot of the discourse surrounding the Duggars over the last few years has dealt with pain and trauma. The Duggar women were thrust into the limelight after Josh Duggar’s molestation report broke, and Cousin Amy only recently shared her feelings over learning about Josh’s actions. He’s currently set to get out of prison on separate child abuse material charges in 2032, a prison release statistic Cousin Amy isn’t happy about either. His wife and seven children are also reportedly struggling as they no longer have financial support. 

Meanwhile, Jill went on record about the “disturbing” religious environment the Counting On kids grew up in as part of her contribution to the Shiny Happy People documentary. Jinger didn't participate in Shiny Happy People, but she's spotlighted her experiences with her parents and the teachings the family followed in this interview and elsewhere.

Regardless, while there was bad stuff, the Duggar daughter says not everything was bad or painful about her childhood. In fact, she recounted one of many positive memories she had about growing up in Arkansas with the family. 

Counting On has been off the air now since shortly after Josh Duggar's arrest in 2021, but the family has lived on in popularity through various YouTube and Instagram shares from the family. Interest in growing up Duggar is still at a high, and I'd be surprised if we didn't get to learn more from Jinger in particular about her upbringing in the coming months.

Money has been at the forefront of the conversation surrounding the Duggar family in recent weeks. This is mainly because the Shiny Happy People: Duggar Family Secrets doc highlighted daughter Jill saying she wasn’t paid for her work on shows like Counting On and that Jim Bob Duggar had kept tight control over the money coming in from TLC and other ventures. Now rumors are swirling the patriarch and matriarch of the clan may be dealing with money issues amidst the end of the reality dynasty and their eldest son Josh’s legal problems; Duggar is currently in the appeals process. 

Paying for Josh to be represented in court likely cost a pretty penny, with some estimates noting it costs upwards of $300 dollars per lawyer per hour in the Arkansas area where Josh was tried (though these are all guesstimates and nowhere near confirmed). Josh’s sibling Joseph allegedly sold some of his brother’s land at one point to pay for a part of the fees, and separately Duggar critic Katie Joy of Without A Crystal Ball said that Jim Bob and Michelle had been covering a lot of his legal costs. 

In addition to Josh Duggar’s legal stuff, the two parents still have kids living at home, some of whom are still underage and some who have not married yet. They’ve also reportedly taken on caring for Josh’s wife Anna and their seven children. 

What's Allegedly Happening With The Duggar Family Finances

According to an insider who spoke with OK Magazine, all of the aforementioned costs have been piling up.

What we do know for sure is that Jim Bob Duggar has been moving money around. He’s been into real estate for quite some time, and sold a parcel to his son Jeremiah for $63,000; reportedly, his kid later sold it back to him for only $10. Other parcels of land he previously owned were also reported to have been sold, which is not a super unusual move for the family, though the majority of the transactions being selling property and not also buying property is. 

In addition, reports indicate patriarch sold several vehicles recently. This includes a Dodge RM 3500, a 1979 trailer and a 2020 Yes Tandem. So it does seem as if some assets are being sold off in the family. But as rumors swirl, the insider notes it hasn’t been “enough.” 

How Much Did Jim Bob And Michelle Make From Counting On And Other TV? 

After Counting On was canceled, reports estimated that Jim Bob was losing upwards of $850,000 of income per season. The Duggars had been filming an average of two seasons a year before their show abruptly ended in 2020, and that was quite a bit of money coming in. He had not been pocketing all of that money, of course, as some of it was handed out to family members who starred on the show, like the aforementioned Jill. 

Jill Duggar Dillard and her husband Derick said in Shiny Happy People that they’d asked for money to help cover hospital costs after the birth of one of their kids. TLC allegedly told the two Jim Bob got the money, and her dad was simply giving each of his kids a lump sum each season – an amount Derick said in the doc “ended up being minimum wage.” 

The Duggar daughters have moved on to social media careers and more since Counting On ended. Jinger Duggar Vuolo wrote a tell-all and a second book from her sister Jill is coming later this year. 

In the 18 months or so since Josh Duggar was convicted on child pornography charges, for which he’s now serving an extended prison sentence, the expansive Duggar family initially did a decent job of collectively avoiding unnecessary attention. Then along came the four-part docuseries Shiny Happy People: Duggar Family Secrets (available to stream with an Amazon Prime subscription), which re-kicked the closet door open on a lot of the clan’s metaphorical skeletons, particularly those tied to Jim Bob Duggar’s ties to the Institute in Basic Life Principles, as founded by the problematic minister Bill Gothard. But while the fam’s patriarch has faced all manner of criticism since the project’s release, one of his and Michelle’s kids had nothing but praise to share in a recent social media post. 

With Father’s Day falling on Sunday, June 18, 21-year-old James Duggar took to Instagram to speak highly of his pops, calling him the “best dad.” Here’s how he put it: 

No matter what may happen with his many siblings of various ages, and no matter how much his parents may be put beneath the microscope in Shiny Happy People and similar projects, it sounds like James Duggar's devotion to his dad won't be swayed. The same can't necessarily be said for others in the family, particularly cousin Amy King, who recently called out the family elders for protecting their "predator" son Josh, as well as sister Jill Duggar, who has emerged as something of a family rebel in that she's been most vocal about reflecting negatively on certainly aspects of her upbringing, particularly when it comes to how the IBLP treats girls and women. 

Jill Duggar, who will no doubt cause far more waves when she releases her new memoir The Cost in September, was namechecked quite a few times by those commenting on her brother's Father's Day post. Fans were quick to point out that she arguably should have been honored just as much as Jim Bob, if not more so, for the part she played in her bro's upbringing while also dealing with everything she said she went through while under their father's ruling thumb. Here's a handful of the less vitriolic responses:

Of course, there were definitely fans going on the defensive against such comments. Some were wholly agreeing with James Duggar's opinions about his father, while some were more specifically judging others for expressing their harsh feelings about Jim Bob on the son's page. And the commenter noted below pointed out that James is allowed to praise his own family members regardless of what they've done.

With certain family members having opted out of appearing, Amazon Studios’ Shiny Happy People: Duggar Family Secrets put the controversy-courting Duggar family right back in the national spotlight, while also shining a light on the Institute of Basic Life Principles. The buzzy docuseries also obviously features some people from outside the Duggar bloodline, such as longtime friends and fellow Quiverfull believers Jim and Bobye Holt, whose 11 children together include Josh Duggar’s former girlfriend Kaeleigh. However, it looks like the Holt clan started going through their own inner-family turmoil in the months before the new streaming show debuted.

According to court documents that date back to April 21, Bobye Holt successfully filed an order of protection from husband Jim, with the judge giving it the go-ahead, according to ArkTimes. That may or may not have been a temporary order, though, as the family matriarch followed up on May 8 and was granted another longer-lasting protection order.

She’s not the only one, either. One of their sons, Samuel Holt, filed some form of complaint against Jim on April 20, which appeared to be connected with his mother’s complaint the following day. And then on the same day her extended protection order was approved in court, Samuel was also granted a similar order against his father. 

While the court-filed complaints noted above could be confirmed publicly, the Springdale Police Department were unable to provide further details behind either the mother or son’s requests. The local PD did confirm that they responded to a call regarding the Holts on April 15 of this year, but that was as far as the information went. Here’s the response SPD’s Bailey Johnson sent this month when a request was made for more info.

The case remaining open means we likely won’t hear many details about the cause for the protection orders, at least not while they’re active. It’s reported that such orders can last up to ten years, though it’s obviously unclear just how serious things are at the moment. 

Jim Holt is certainly no stranger to opposition outside the family home, having served his home state of Arkansas in the U.S. Government from 2001-2006 in both the House of Representatives and in the Senate. A staunch conservative, Holt is against abortions, is anti-healthcare on a national level, and at one point aimed to restrict evolution being taught in the state’s public schools, though his bill failed to move forward at the time. 

The Holts and the Duggars’ friendship goes back years, with Kaeleigh Holt having dated the currently incarcerated Josh Duggar back when they were both 14 years old. Her big TV appearance from that era came when she popped up on the 2006 precursor special 16 Children and Moving In, which eventually morphed into 19 Kids and Counting.

Bobye Holt, who testified against Josh Duggar during his child pornography trial, claimed that her daughter was being groomed to eventually marry him. However, those plans were brought to a halt after it was discovered that a teenaged Josh molested five younger females, which included four of his sisters. (In hindsight, Jill Duggar Dillard has shared regrets about defending her brother in that infamous Megyn Kelly interview.) Holt claimed to have learned about the molestation situation back in 2003, twelve years before things went public, after Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar shared some of the details. But she also claimed that Josh himself visited the family two years later with his own confession, and that his details painted a more disturbing picture than what his parents claimed.

It’s unclear if the Holt family’s current situation is directly related at all to the Duggar family or the Shiny Happy People docuseries, in which Jim Holt plays a sizable role. All four episodes can be streamed with an Amazon Prime subscription.

It’s been a crazy whirlwind of a week in Duggar family news. First and foremost, Amy Duggar King went viral this week for straight up calling out Jim Bob and Michelle on TikTok. Elsewhere, their semi-estranged daughter Jill announced her own tell-all memoir will be coming after her sister Jinger wrote the successful Becoming Free Indeed. It’s all happening amidst the release of the documentary Shiny Happy People: Duggar Family Secrets, available to anyone with an Amazon Prime subscription. So, let’s break it down. 

Amy King Went Off On Jim Bob And Michelle

It’s no real secret that Cousin Amy King has not been a fan of certain members of the family for a while now. Despite appearing on TV with the clan before, the mom has been open in recent years about what she feels her cousins have gone through. Now, on TikTok she created a video talking about protecting her own child from certain members of the family but also calling out Jim Bob and Michelle for protecting ”predator” Josh Duggar. She said: 

She also brought up Jim Bob’s reaction on the stand when he was asked about the molestation of his daughters by his son, information that came to light only when In Touch published a report having obtained information via the Freedom of Information Act. That report noted Josh had touched some girls inappropriately, including some of his sisters, when he was a teenager. 

The bombshell news marked the end of 19 Kids and Counting, but King noted Jim Bob later couldn’t seem to “recall” details about the incident when asked about them on the stand. The prosecution had argued during Josh’s case about obtaining child abuse materials that the molestation report helped explain motive and why the materials were downloaded intentionally. To Amy, Jim Bob’s part in that case stood out. 

This doesn’t mark the first time Amy Duggar King has targeted the family matriarch and patriarch in recent weeks. She wasn’t happy with the statement the Duggar parents released about Shiny Happy People, either. And she also claimed she sent an olive branch to Josh’s wife Anna during the tenure of the brouhaha surrounding her allegedly living off the Duggars’ charity, saying she and husband Dillon had offered Anna and the kids a place to stay.

Anna reportedly never responded back. But the Duggar news has continued in many directions, as Shiny Happy People: Duggar Family Secrets gets viewed. Meanwhile, one of the doc's stars, Jill Duggar Dillard, is planning to open up on her own terms.

Jill Took A Note From Jinger And Is Writing Her Own Book 

In her own post on Instagram, Jill shared a first look at the book she is planning to publish. Like Becoming Free Indeed, her book will have a catchy title: Counting the Cost. It’s a nod to 19 Kids and Counting and Counting On, two shows that had consumed her life until recently and two shows Dillard had little say in.

In fact, the way the money situation has been described as one in which Jim Bob would control the family’s TV earnings and then parcel it out to the family instead of them earning their own money. She and Derick also took ire with the fact they weren’t allowed to decide when big Duggar announcements – like weddings and baby reveals – could be made. 

Now that she’s publishing her own book, she’ll be able to determine what information she wants to share and how she wants to share it, giving her more control over her story, but also her revenue and livelihood. It’s the same move her sister Jinger Duggar Vuolo made in recent months, after she published her own book touching on her feelings about her famous family and her time on reality television, as well as her thoughts on her brother Josh after his incarceration. 

It’s been a big few months for Duggar news, and it doesn’t seem as if it will be slowing down anytime soon. Counting The Cost will hit shelves later this year on September 12, 2023. 

The children who appeared on the TLC reality show 19 Kids and Counting have started speaking out more in recent years about their conservative upbringing under the teachings of the Institute in Basic Life Principles. They’ve also shared their experiences and opinions regarding Josh Duggar, who is serving a 12.5-year prison sentence for possession of child pornography. As the docuseries Shiny Happy People: Duggar Family Secrets aims to shed even more light on these issues, Josh’s parents Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar have released a statement, calling the claims made on the series “derogatory” and “sensationalized.”

Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar’s show was popular on TLC when it premiered in 2008. However, it all came crashing down when allegations came to light that their oldest child Josh Duggar had molested several of his younger sisters as a teenager, leading to the cancellation of the series. Prime Video’s four-part documentary dives into the controversial teachings of the IBLP and its disgraced founder Bill Gothard, as well as the Duggar family scandals. Upon the series’ June 2 premiere, the parents released a statement on their website that read:  

Their daughter Jill Duggar Dillard — the fourth child of Jim Bob and Michelle, and one of Josh Duggar’s victims — participated in the documentary, along with her husband Derick Dillard. One of the things she spoke about was her 2015 interview with Megyn Kelly, in which she and her sister Jessa defended their brother amidst the molestation accusations. Derick called the interview “a suicide mission” in Shiny Happy People, while Jill said it isn’t something she’s proud of, but at the time she felt an obligation to the family’s show and to her parents.

Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar made no specific references to any of their children or claims made in the docuseries in their statement, but they did acknowledge damaged relationships. The statement continued:

It shouldn't be all that surprising that the Duggars chose to speak out on the documentary. On that same token, we should've also expected that some individuals would respond to their own comments. Amy Duggar King -- Jim Bob and Michelle's niece -- countered their sentiments. While talking to ET, Duggar King accused the couple of "gaslighting" among other things: 

Amy Duggar King, who helped spearhead the doc, also stated that she still loves her family and that she's "not trying to bash them." However, she also feels a responsibility to "protect" her relatives, including her son and her "peace."

In addition to Jill Duggar Dillard’s revelations in the Prime Video series about the 2015 interview, Jinger Duggar Vuolo has previously said she feels the need to speak out about the “disturbing” religious environment she and her siblings grew up in and has spoken candidly about her feelings regarding her incarcerated brother. Time will tell if more relatives choose to speak out on Michelle and Jim Bob's statement.

Josh Duggar has spent the last several months in prison after being found guilty on counts of receiving and possessing child pornography. He was sentenced to 151 months in prison. He is appealing, but while Duggar has been incarcerated, there has been additional scrutiny on the former 19 Kids and Counting star’s past behavior before federal agents showed up to arrest him in 2021. There’s been additional scrutiny on his famous father Jim Bob Duggar’s alleged actions, as well. 

Fans of the reality series will remember a scandal from years prior, in which In Touch outed a report indicating that a younger Josh Duggar had molested some young women, including several of his sisters. The incident had been handled privately and the report had been sealed, but was able to be accessed through a Freedom of Information Act request. Duggar had filed a lawsuit over the public molestation reveal, but he lost it and subsequent appeals.

Meanwhile, 19 Kids and Counting was canceled and life moved on. Josh married his wife Anna and they had children (7 to date). Several of his family members joined the cast of Counting On --which aired on TLC, the same network as the family's former reality show. Josh got a job working for the Family Research council, but later switched to selling cars after an alleged Ashley Madison cheating scandal came to light. In the larger family narrative, Jim Bob and Michelle still allegedly controlled a lot of things behind the scenes, with the famous patriarch reportedly taking the lion’s share of the money made from reality TV. 

On top of this, a new report from Without A Crystal Ball indicates that early in the history of Josh Duggar’s reported issues, his parents were aware of what was going on and crafted narratives to explain his behavior. According to what an insider told Katie Joy, Jim Bob reportedly threw his wife Michelle under the bus over the issue.

If true, that’s quite the accusation, though it’s worth noting this is all secondhand information from unnamed sources. Regardless, YouTuber Katie Joy said she spoke to insiders who had contact with individuals in both Michelle Duggar and Jim Bob’s camps and they were allegedly speaking about a period of time in which Josh Duggar had his head shaved (he was seen with his head shaved in TV specials, so this is confirmed) and was living away from the main home (allegedly) while his family figured out what to do about his tendencies. 

Separately, Katie Joy also noted an insider shared Jim Bob reportedly went out of his way to keep the blame for Josh’s behaviors on “external circumstances.” She also said: 

Jim Bob and Michelle haven’t publicly spoken out about Josh much since his arrest, trial and ultimate imprisonment. When the verdict came down, the Duggar parents did break their silence and write “the entire ordeal has been very grievous” and that they were “praying for Joshua,” though they didn’t go so far as to agree with the court’s decision as some of the other Duggar family members did. Jim Bob had also been seen in the courtroom during the trial, while Michelle had asked for “leniency” ahead of sentencing. 

Jana Duggar is many things. She is a sibling, a daughter, and a reality star, not to mention a woman who enjoys gardening and one of the few Duggar women to reportedly move forward with a business plan. She’s also 33 and has long been a Duggar sibling who has lived at home. Now, her brother has reported she’s allegedly "moved out," which would be a pretty huge deal. 

Many fans of 19 Kids and Counting or its now-canceled sister show Counting On probably know how courtship works in the Duggar family, who see themselves as followers of the Institute in Basic Life Principles. They may have even heard how strict the dress code is for the women in the Duggar family or have heard Jinger Duggar talking about how music with drums led to fear in her childhood. They may already be familiar with the idea that unmarried women in the family stay at home until they are wed, which is why Jana moving out would be a shocking move. 

So, what happened? 

Did Jana Duggar Move Out?

Without a Crystal Ball broke the news after one of Jana’s brothers reached out – in a very rare move – to clarify a few things. In fact, Katie Joy revealed that in the time of its coverage, a Duggar brother reaching out has only occurred the one time. She said she texted the unnamed brother about the #freeJana movement, and the brother responded that Jana had “moved out.”

While Jana Duggar had been at home during the ordeal where she dealt with child endangerment charges and subsequent fines, if true, her move would be a massive deal. 

Jana’s sister Jinger has actually been clear that Jana is unable to move out unless she were to be married. She said earlier this year that unmarried women moving out would go against what Jim Bob, Michelle and many of the 19 Kids and Counting kids believe. She spoke to Allie Beth Stuckey earlier this year about the concept and how she personally felt. 

But not so fast. Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar own a huge property with many places Jana Duggar could still be living, which would allow her to still be following the tenets of the family’s belief system while being able to maintain at least a facade of independence. There’s the warehouse Josh, Anna and the kids lived in and other spaces Jana could be living on property. So Katie Joy also hedged she hasn’t actually left the property at all.

Jana Duggar, has, of course, not confirmed or denied any of this, and her brother who reached out to the outlet apparently went radio silence after getting called out a little bit on Jana’s alleged move. But an insider reportedly reached out to confirm Jana has moved out of the main Duggar compound and has moved into a “tiny house” which is located on the Duggar property. If true, she's moved out but not moved on.  

Still, when you are living under any sort of authority, I’d guess the autonomy might be refreshing. Particularly for the reality star, as Jana has been open about the "pressure" to marry in the past and has said she does "long" to move forward into the next portion of her life. We’ll have to wait and see what’s next for Jana, but unless someone puts a ring on it, she'll probably remain on the property. 

With TLC having pulled the plug on the reality spinoff Counting On in 2021, the various members of the controversy-laden Duggar family have been largely absent from TV for the longest stretch since the first seasons of 19 Kids & Counting started airing in 2018. (Then as 17 Kids…) Jinger Duggar Vuolo is making new headlines beyond the small screen, as she’s set to debut her new memoir, titled Becoming Free Indeed: My Story of Disentangling Faith from Fear. The book will focus in part on the former reality star’s reflections on living in abject fear as a child due to the religious teachings that her famed parents Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar have embraced.

For a while now, fans and followers of the Duggar clan have likely taken note of Jinger Duggar Vuolo’s approach to life and fashion pivoting away from the more restrictive views of her parents. (She went from all skirts and dresses to rocking pants and wearing shorts like it ain’t no thang.) Speaking to People ahead of her memoir’s January 31 publication date, Vuolo opened up about distancing herself from the Institute in Basic Life Principles movement that her family so devoutly followed, speaking to how afraid she was as a child of many everyday things and activities, assuming they may defy God’s will. In her words:

As hyperbolic as those fears may sound completely out of context, some children do indeed suffer such daily apprehensions based largely on wanting to avoid any of God's more smiteful reactions. The idea behind the movie Footloose certainly wasn't pulled out of thin air, after all, and the IBLP organization teaches its followers that dancing, dating, and most modern entertainment should be avoided. Not to mention that wives should obey their husbands without question.

 Jinger Duggar Vuolo shared that family activities such as playing the sport "broomball" inspired fear of judgment from on high, and that it was only later that she came to realize how much of the movement's teachings were built on driving up anxiety. Speaking about IBLP founder Bill Gothard, who was the head of the church until stepping down in 2014 after facing dozens of harassment and molestation accusations. (Jinger's own brother Josh Duggar, who has faced molestation allegations himself, is currently in federal prison for child pornography charges, and will have to register as a sex offender when he's released.)

She spoke negatively about Gothard's ideology, and how she grew to back away from it starting in 2017. Here's how she put it:

Thankfully for her mental state, she was able to come around to a more positive place that allowed her to completely turn her back on the ILBP. To be sure, Vuolo remains a devout to the Christian faith, albeit in ways that aren't so limiting (especially to women), and hopes to inspire others to follow suit.

Jinger Duggar Vuolo and husband Jeremy Vuolo have been open to sharing more about their lives in recent years, whether it was happening via Counting On, their respective social media pages, YouTube videos, or other places. The upcoming memoir was preceded by the 2021 release, The Hope We Hold: Finding Peace with the Promises of God, which the couple co-wrote about their relationship and their cross-country moves, as well as the birth of their first daughter Felicity and the misscarriage that followed. (Which itself was thankfully followed by Duggar Vuolo getting pregnant for daughter #2, Evangeline, who was born in November 2020.)

Over the last couple of weeks, varying sources have reported a rift that has allegedly grown between Josh Duggar’s wife Anna and other members of the former 19 Kids and Counting clan. While the rift has allegedly caused some of the Duggar siblings to leave Jim Bob and Michelle’s home, Anna and the kids are still around. So what does that mean for the holidays?

According to a previous report, one of the reasons for conflict within the family has to do with different Duggar family members having different feelings about Josh’s conviction. As you probably already know, Josh was sentenced on charges related to child abuse materials found on a computer where he worked. The eldest Duggar son spent Thanksgiving in jail, and that Duggar holiday looked a little different this year.

According to an Insider who spoke with In Touch, the rift may continue during the holiday season. Anna was said to be none-too-happy about some of the Duggar siblings reacting to the verdict, including Jason, who called his brother’s sentencing fair. Despite that, it seems she may spend time with the family matriarch and patriarch. 

The insider went on to mention Anna has seen some of the comments Josh’s siblings have made as “a betrayal” and previous reports have mentioned she’s not been “pleasant to be around” if you don’t think Josh Duggar is innocent. (The former reality star is currently trying to appeal.)

Why A Holiday Rift Would Be Particularly Notable For The Duggars

The Duggar family is known for large holiday get togethers. Various family members, including Jessa Seewald’s YouTube, have documented these family events, including everything from Christmas pageants (thanks Counting On) to the opening of presents. Missing a major moment like this would have been a huge deal in previous years, though of course some of the Duggars are more scattered now, including Jinger Vuolo, who lives with her family in Los Angles. 

Of course, the last few years Josh has also been missing from these events.

If all of this is true, it does sound like the holidays could be a little tense this season, or perhaps a little more intimate. In fact, Jill Duggar and other members of the family have already given us some glimpses at what their family holiday setups look like, with Jill and Derick particularly mentioning being thankful for their “rainbow baby.” 

Jinger and her family also recently drove around to check out Christmas light displays, as she shared on Instagram. So, as the 19 kids from 19 Kids continue to grow their families, there may be some element of holiday traditions changing in the short or long-term. 

Meanwhile, Josh Duggar will still be in prison through all of this, but allegedly will get a holiday gift filled with “consumables” along with other inmates. 

Josh Duggar has been imprisoned after being found guilty on counts of receiving and possessing child pornography. Through his trial and the time after his wife Anna has stood by her husband, escorting him in the courtroom and allegedly taking myriad calls from Josh in prison. She’s also been reportedly staying on the property of his parents, Jim Bob and Michelle, and allegedly that’s led to some family drama in the months since the former 19 Kids and Counting star was sent to Seagoville. 

In fact, two of Josh’s siblings recently moved out of the compound that has served and still currently serves as a home for myriad family members. This normally would simply be interesting from an escaping the nest standpoint, but in this case the rumor mill is hedging that Josh’s siblings have exited home all because of Anna. 

Per a report over at Without A Crystal Ball, things have not been so copacetic at the Duggar family compound since Anna has been around. Calling them the "lost boys," Katie Joy noted there's been "growing tension" with Anna, who believes her husband is innocent of having viewed the child abuse material. Or as an insider told her:

In fact, apparently there have been dust ups between some of the other siblings and Anna, with the YouTube outlet noting 'mainly his sisters' being a source of the reported conflict within the Duggar compound. Previous reports have also mentioned tensions between Jim Bob, Michelle and Anna. However, now it seems those tensions may be why Jason and James Duggar sought to move from home. 

What Jason And Other Siblings Have Said About Josh's Verdict

While some of the Counting On siblings and other family members shared statements after the verdict came down, not all of them have spoken out. It's worth noting Jason was one of the siblings who spoke out in a less vague manner after the verdict came in, calling it “fair” then stating: 

Despite these words he also said he would continue to love his brother. Other Duggar sibling Jill Duggar Dillard notably shared a statement about her feelings, noting her brothers’ actions had a ripple effect and that the trial itself felt like “a funeral.” 

James and Jason also reposted some of their siblings' statements after the verdict came out. 

Given Josh's past history with some of his sisters, including Jill, opening up about the molestation report that had previously ended 19 Kids and Counting, it is unsurprising some of his siblings would have also shared thoughts about the child abuse material. Regardless, since some siblings have been quiet on the matter, some insiders are calling it a "house divided." And Anna Duggar may be squarely in the middle of that alleged conflict. 

Of course, both Jason (22) and James (21) are in their early twenties. Now could simply be a convenient time for them to leave the nest and embark on their adult lives. Or two things could always be true at once. We'll keep you updated if more clear cut information related to this story breaks.

It’s been nearly half a year since Josh Duggar was shipped from the Washington County Detention Center to federal prison. We’ve learned some details in the past about what Duggar’s time in prison has been like, but now he’s spending his first major holiday at FCI Seagoville. The Thanksgiving holiday is generally a time for friends and family, but things sound as if they will be very different for the Duggar clan this year, from at least one sibling not attending an event to patriarch Jim Bob's eating choices. 

As for the former 19 Kids and Counting star, Josh will be spending his day with other inmates. At least it sounds like he’ll be eating well. Prison systems all have varying plans on the holidays, but big meals are one component many of them seem to have in common. When it comes to Josh Duggar’s prison system, the inmates will both have meat and vegetarian choices, as well as dessert options. You can check out the full menu below.

It’s not fancy, but it is a reasonably large spread with all the fixings. TMZ also got a look at a lot of other celebrities who are currently serving prison time (think Harvey Weinstein, R. Kelly). While varying prisons have different menus, all the menus do include some sort of bird. Most of the prison systems offer turkey, but the outlet also noted R Kelly (MCC Chicago) and former Cheer star Jerry Harris (FMC Lexington) are being served cornish hen. 

For Duggar, in addition to the food festivities, some of the prison systems have games and other activities planned. Some examples of this include “card tournaments, art contests, bingo and movie screenings.” It’s unclear if family visits are a part of these proceedings.

Meanwhile, while the Duggar clan is noted for their large family gatherings on holidays, there have been rumors of rifts in recent months. Josh Duggar’s parents have allegedly helped support his wife Anna and the kids through their eldest son’s legal troubles. In addition, however, they also supported their son’s case. Michelle Duggar even pleaded for “leniacy” ahead of Josh’s sentencing.

Recently, Joy-Anna and Austin Forsyth said they would not be spending Thanksgiving with the family and instead she told Instagram followers they will be spending Thanksgiving in Dallas, Texas. Joy-Anna’s sister Jinger posted a few days ago from California with her husband Jeremy Vuolo, though it’s possible they traveled for the holidays. 

Honestly, the only thing that Jim Bob and Michelle have said about Thanksgiving is that the Duggar patriarch plans to fast after putting on some weight during recent travels. So, his holiday will certainly be looking very different from his son’s, albeit for very different reasons.  

Josh Duggar is currently trying to appeal his conviction on child pornography charges. 

There are myriad Duggars in the limelight and while we often hear about Duggar patriarch Jim Bob, his wife Michelle and their 19 kids, spouses and grandchildren, there are some extended Duggar family members who occasionally pop into the limelight. This includes Cousin Amy Duggar King and her mother Deanna, the sister of Jim Bob Duggar. Recently, the TV personality’s sibling opened up about the “completely” different story she was told in regards to the family, then deleted the post. 

The original post put the 19 Kids and Counting family on blast, though Deanna remained vague about what specifically she had been lied to about before seeing “the truth” on a local news channel. She later changed her tune and deleted the post, but not before people caught the original text. On Instagram, Deanna had noted: 

While it’s unclear if Deanna Duggar was referring to information related to Josh’s trial and subsequent guilty verdict, her brother’s failed run for office or any of the other Duggar legal stuff that has been rolling around, the “family member” note combined with the fact the story would have made the local news made it pretty clear she was writing out about the TLC clan. She later reposted the image on Instagram and clarified a bit more about what she was hinting at, also writing in the comments of the new post:

This wouldn’t be the first time outside members of the Duggar family have spoken their minds. In fact, Deanna’s daughter Amy Duggar King has been among the more outspoken of the Duggars in relation to personal matters, even commenting after Jana Duggar’s misdemeanor snafu. Yet Amy Duggar King has also hinted at having signed an NDA as part of an overall TLC deal, which her mother seems to be confirming here. 

In fact, Deanna herself noted she’s usually more vocal “on Facebook” and said she only changed the Instagram post because she “decided to make it positive!” and that she thought she had the “freedom” to do that on Instagram. (Which she does, but it’s also a popular platform, so I’m not surprised people noticed.)

While Jim Bob and Deanna grew up together – reportedly living in a log cabin style home as kids! – the two don’t live the same lifestyles any longer. Jim Bob is known for his strict rules on modesty and more, whereas Deanna and Amy Duggar King are a little less strict with their rules and beliefs. (Honestly, even some of Jim Bob Duggar’s girls are distancing themselves from his fashion requirements at this point.)

Speaking of distancing, Amy Duggar King also previously spoke out about being estranged from the larger clan, which ties in with these comments her mother has made. But she's said they "doing things different" and that she's "happy for everybody." We'll have to wait and see if her mother writes out about anything else. 

One month from now, Josh Duggar’s fate will likely be known, as the former reality star is set to be sentenced April 5 after being found guilty on two counts of receiving and possessing child pornography. While Duggar was undergoing his trial following his April 2021 arrest, his sisters were fighting their own battle regarding the release of a previously sealed report in which molestation claims were made about their brother. Josh’s father, Jim Bob Duggar, was asked about that report during his son’s pre-trial hearing, and we now know how he addressed the situation to the court in November 2021. 

Back in 2015, In Touch used the Freedom of Information Act to acquire records involving four of the Duggar sisters (Jessa Duggar Seewald, Jill Duggar Dillard, Jinger Duggar Vuolo, and Joy-Anna Duggar Forsyth), who as minors, shared claims, about molestation related to Josh Duggar. The release of these reports led to the family's reality show 19 Kids and Counting getting canceled, and the four Duggar sisters filed a lawsuit in 2017 over the report they thought was sealed. They subsequently fought a years-long court battle until a judge dismissed their case on February 10. 

Jim Bob Duggar was questioned about the infamous molestation report at Josh's pre-trial hearing, according to unsealed transcripts obtained by The Sun. When prosecutor Carly Marshall asked him what home the family lived in when Josh Duggar had admitted his actions to his father, Jim Bob answered the question, but cut Marshall off twice to add his opinion: 

Carly Marshall reportedly told the Duggar patriarch at that time to stick to answering the questions. However, it seemed clear he didn’t agree with the information obtained by In Touch being used at all because the records had been sealed. He argued again: 

At that point, the judge apparently intervened and told Jim Bob Duggar that if an objection needed to be made, his lawyer would assert it, and he was again told to answer the questions. The famous father said Josh Duggar came to him two times in regards to “inappropriate touching,” in which his son said he touched four victims “when they were sleeping on the breast over their clothes.”

The older Duggar said he didn’t remember his son telling him that he’d touched the victims’ vaginal areas, which prompted Carly Marshall to show the failed politician the police report from the In Touch article to refresh his memory. He refused to read a paragraph aloud from the police report, saying “I’m not going to do that” and, after being asked to just read to himself, Jim Bob responded:

The unsealing of the 2015 molestation document was the subject of a four-year-long court battle for four of the Duggar sisters and, upon the lawsuit’s recent dismissal, Jill Duggar Dillard had some strong words to convey her disappointment with the ruling:

Jill Duggar had left the family’s show Counting On before it was canceled in the aftermath of Josh Duggar’s arrest and admitted that she had distanced herself from some members of her large family. 

Josh Duggar is officially set to be sentenced on April 5. The former 19 Kids and Counting star is facing a prison sentence of up to 20 years on each of the two counts he was convicted on. He could also face up to $250,000 in fines for each count. 

When Josh Duggar was investigated on child pornography charges, things had been going pretty well for the former 19 Kids and Counting star. He’d been working at a used car lot and had bought property with his wife Anna Duggar, a home the two had major plans to renovate and call their own. Only, months later, Anna Duggar was reported to be living with the couple’s now eight kids on patriarch Jim Bob and his wife Michelle’s property. So what happened?

First and foremost, evidence presented in a hearing ahead of Josh Duggar's child pornography trial mentioned the former reality star talking to federal agents about the renovation project in the works. Audio presented included this comment Josh made about the home, made as part of questioning the former TV personality was a part of during a November 2019.

The Arkansas house in question was obviously quite large and could easily have supported Anna and the kids, so why are they no longer there? Well first and foremost, as the comment itself notes, the eldest Duggar son and his large brood had already been staying with Jim Bob and Michelle at least some of the time as renovations were undergone on the house. Reports indicate they stay on the property in a renovated warehouse space adjacent to where the older Duggar parents live. 

Interestingly, reports recently broke that the Springdale Arkansas home – the home Josh and Anna were planning to use as a longterm home – was actually put on the market in September of 2020, some time before Duggar was even arrested on child pornography charges in April of 2021 but some time after it was known he was being investigated. The home went on the market and sold for under asking price, according to a report over at The Sun, for $450,000.

The Springdale, Arkansas house had initially been listed for  $799,000, but varying reports indicate the home was a “shell” and still in need of extensive renovation and the sale price did not come anywhere close to asking. Interestingly the date the home came on the market came the same month in 2020 that reports broke that Josh Duggar’s Wholesale Motorcars business no longer existed and that Josh had moved in with his parents. 

Obviously, the investigation into the car dealership impacted revenue for Josh and led to the closing of the business where the computer featuring child pornography was found, but it’s been impactful to the whole Duggar family, as well. Previous reports have indicated that after TLC canceled Counting On following Josh's arrest, the Duggars are losing a significant amount of revenue each month. That doesn't just extend to Anna Duggar, who had appeared on the show, and it doesn't just extend to Jim Bob and Michelle, but Jessa and the other kids appearing on TV were very much impacted as well. 

In fact, estimates indicate that the show's income netted the Duggars around $850,000 per year, which Jim Bob Duggar was allegedly "pissed about." Jessa Duggar Seewald and some of the other siblings would have combined that money with income streams such as social media deals, money from ads on YouTube channels and more. 

One other thing that is interesting to note about this whole situation is that Jim Bob recently also sold some property off for $46K. It's unclear what this money is being used for, but one has to think helping to take care of Anna and eight kids isn't cheap. It's also uncertain what the legal fees to help Josh through his trial and the ongoing appeal process have cost -- or will continue to cost. 

One might think TLC ordered up another spinoff of its former hit 19 Days and Counting, considering how many Duggar family members have been making headlines lately, although much of the news surrounding them has been anything but positive. Less than a full week after Josh Duggar was handed a guilty verdict in his child pornography trial, his father Jim Bob Duggar suffered a political blow, as he failed to draw anywhere near enough votes to win the primary race in his Arkansas county for an open state senate seat. 

Taking to his campaign’s Facebook page following the primary election results being reported on Tuesday night, Jim Bob Duggar said the following: 

Having served on the Arkansas House of Representatives from 1999-2002, Jim Bob Duggar was fighting to get back into the political arena through the Arkansas State Senate this time, with a campaign backed by so-called pro-life, pro-gun and pro-family ideals. Yet, despite reminding voters of his accomplishments 20 years ago, and backing from grassroots organizations like Re-Open Arkansas, Duggar just couldn’t sway enough people to pick his name in the voting booths.

With four Republican candidates figuratively duking it out to become the official candidate to eventually face a Democrat opponent, Jim Bob Duggar came in third with just 15% of the vote. He was toppled by runner-up Steve Unger (31%) and the election’s victor, Colby Fulfer, who brought in 46% of those who voted in the district. Duggar congratulated Fulfer lower in his Facebook message, saying:

Many were taken by surprise back in October 2021 when Jim Bob Duggar initially announced his plans to run for the open state senate seat, considering his son’s impending trial at the time. It’s obviously impossible to know whether Josh Duggar’s conviction, or even Jana Duggar’s child endangerment charges, had any effect on who voters chose. But it’s hard to argue that the election’s timing was anything but fortunate for the former reality TV star, who shared his reaction to the conviction in the immediate aftermath.

Time will tell whether or not Jim Bob Duggar puts any effort into actively backing his temporary political rival Colby Fulfer ahead of the February 8 election. If Josh Duggar's sentencing ends up being set for anywhere near that date, though, perhaps the family patriarch will avoid going public in any capacity. 

The trial of former TLC star Josh Duggar began after multiple attempts by his legal team to delay the proceedings, and the jury didn’t deliberate long before making its verdict of guilty. Duggar was found guilty of both the charges he was facing: receiving child pornography and possessing child pornography. After the news of the conviction, members of his famous family released statements, including parents Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar as well as sister Jill Duggar Dillard and her husband. 

Josh Duggar was arrested back in late April 2021 and charged with the two counts of child pornography, for which he faces up to 20 years in jail and a fine of up to $250,000 each. He hasn’t been officially sentenced yet to decide his fate and whether his sentences will be served concurrently or consecutively. His parents took to the Duggar family website with a statement about the guilty verdict:

Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar’s statement mentions CSAM (child sexual abuse materials) in their description of the “entire ordeal” of their son’s trial. The comment that they plan to stick by Anna Duggar and her children with Josh is undoubtedly good news for that corner of the large Duggar family, as she recently gave birth to their seventh child. They make it clear that they still love their son, and are relying on their faith. 

Jill Duggar Dillard and husband Derick Dillard released a longer statement on their own website, noting that Josh Duggar’s guilty verdict was “difficult for our family,” and expressed that they are “thankful for the hard work of law enforcement, including investigators, forensic analysts, prosecutors, and all others involved who save kids and hold accountable those responsible for their abuse.” The statement notes that no person “is above the law” no matter their status, and cited a Bible verse about their Christian belief in equality. 

Their statement also commented on the reports that members of the large Duggar family actually attended parts of Josh Duggar’s trial, saying that they “wanted to hear the evidence for ourselves in court” after being lied to, and now they “believe that the jury reached a just verdict” that is “the truth beyond a reasonable doubt.” The statement closed by addressing the future for Anna Duggar and the family as a whole:

Jill Duggar Dillard didn't have much of a presence on any of the TLC shows in recent years before the cancellations, having made the decision to leave that life behind. She and her husband didn’t mince words in addressing the case against her oldest brother and the guilty verdict. Only time will tell if more members of the family release statements about the results of the trial.

The guilty verdict isn’t the end of Josh Duggar’s case, as sentencing still remains. If his sentences for the two counts of child pornography are served concurrently, then he could be out of prison much sooner than if his sentences are served consecutively. 

After months of Josh Duggar’s case going through various motions to dismiss and pre-trial delays, the former 19 Kids and Counting star’s case kicked off in Arkansas last week. Jury selection was undergone -- and involved booting out a Duggar relation before it was finalized. Meanwhile, across the early days of the trial, some family Duggar clan members were seen in the courtroom. 

Noting the names is not necessarily an indication they are there in support of Josh Duggar, however. While Josh’s wife Anna Duggar has stuck by his side, reportedly visiting the third-party home where he stayed during the months he was out on bail before welcoming their seventh child, other Duggar family members showing up might be for more complicated reasons. 

So far, seen in the courtroom have been some of Duggar’s siblings, his parent Jim Bob Duggar (more on that later), his wife Anna Duggar, some of his siblings’ also-famous reality star partners and more. You can take a look at the list of who has showed up so far below:

Anna Duggar has apparently been on hand for the trial since Day 1. She has been seen in the courtroom on numerous occasions, though it was reported that she had to leave early on Wednesday of last week after the prosecution spoke out about the case and the alleged evidence against her husband in in graphic detail. 

Other family members have waffled in and out. On December 1, Derick Dillard was seen in the courtroom (via US Weekly) and he sat next to Anna Duggar during the proceedings. On December 2, Justin Duggar and Claire Spivey were reported to be in the courtroom, along with Spivey’s mother. 

On December 3, Joy-Anna Duggar and Austin Forsyth were seen in court and seemingly supporting Anna, as Joy-Anna was spotted hugging her sister-in-law (via The Sun) and handing her coffee. The couple had previously been in the courtroom but sat near the back.  

Various outlets are also noting that family patriarch Jim Bob Duggar has not actually appeared in the courtroom since the trial kicked off. However, he was asked to speak at a November 29th pre-trial event. This is where the motivations of some of the attendees at the trial get a little complicated. Jim Bob spoke out about the now-infamous molestation report that In Touch broke some years back and that ended Duggar’s reality TV career. 

That report may now come into play in Josh Duggar’s trial on child pornography charges, though his legal team has attempted to keep the information out of the current case. In particular, Josh was alleged to have touched young women, including four of his sisters, some years before his arrest on child pornography charges. Those sisters were documented as Jessa Duggar, Jill Duggar, Joy-Anna Duggar and Jinger Duggar. 

For the sisters listed in the report, there is a connection to this case as well. They are separately fighting their own legal battle in relation to the report’s release. That case has been ongoing for years, and earlier in November the sisters scored a win in court when the judge refused to throw out the case. Jessa, Jill, Joy-Anna and Jinger have in their own lawsuit alleged that their names being released when they were victims has had ramifications on their lives and careers in the time since. 

Originally, the family all appeared on 19 Kids and Counting and its various other iterations together. That series was cancelled after the molestation report broke. Then, the sisters worked together on the spinoff Counting On, which did not feature Josh. Jill and Derick Dillard had left the show a while back, but it was ultimately also cancelled following Josh Duggar's arrest. 

Now the eldest Duggar son could face up to 20 years apiece on each of the two charges he is facing, as well as steep fines. Day 4 (in the second week) of the trial kicked off Monday, December 6. 

The Duggar family has been at the center of a multitude of negative-skewing news stories in recent years, almost entirely related to accused molester Josh Duggar, who is currently awaiting trial for multiple charges regarding child pornography. It appears that the former reality TV clan’s Jim Bob Duggar is attempting to pull some of the spotlight back into more positive territory, as he has announced his upcoming candidacy for the Arkansas State Senate. Not the most predictable move, but one that has relevant context, given his past government work.

The announcement was made via the official Duggar family Facebook page, where it was confirmed Jim Bob Duggar will be running for Arkansas State Senate District 7, which includes the Duggars’ hometown of Springdale, among other towns in Washington County. The Duggar fam’s patriarch was born and raised in Springdale, attended school there, and has also served as a real estate agent in the area. As TLC viewers are well aware, Duggar married Michelle Duggar not too long after he graduated, and they went on to have 20 children, with the family continuing to grow to this day. 

So it’s safe to say Jim Bob Duggar knows the area and its constituency well enough, so he will likely appeal to family friends and fans during his campaign trail, while presumably also keeping mum about everything happening with son Josh. Duggar previously served in the Arkansas House of Representatives in District 6 from 1999-2003, capping that run five years ahead of TLC picking up 19 Kids and Counting. He attempted to make a go at the U.S. Senate, but lost out in the Republican primary in 2002. He also attempted to land a seat in the Arkansas State Senate back in 2006, but lost to his opponent by a small number of votes. 

While noting God’s blessings in his statement on the Facebook post, here’s how Jim Bob Duggar explained his reason for running for the State Senate:

Unsurprisingly, the news of Jim Bob Duggar’s government run hasn’t sat well with everyone who’s learned about them. But perhaps the most notable reaction that has come out so far is a single emoji from son-in-law Derick Dillard, who is married to Jill Duggar. The couple has stood out within the family for going against the grain and dropping out of their Counting On spinoff, as well as purposefully distancing themselves from other family members. Here’s how he responded:

The timing of Jim Bob Duggar’s candidacy announcement, while perhaps necessary to get the ball rolling, came almost exactly a month ahead of the date set for son Josh Duggar’s trial child pornography trial, which was initially delayed from its July start date. The former reality star’s legal team has made several attempts to get the case dismissed, despite prosecutors claiming to have strong evidence against Duggar. (With one judge calling their attempts “frivolous.”) It’s unclear how things will go, but it’s not out of line to think the results will have some kind of effect on the elder Duggar’s early campaign.

It’s been a few months since Josh Duggar was arrested by federal agents on one count of receiving child pornography and one count of possessing child pornography. He subsequently got out on bail and has been staying at a third party home while he awaits trial. His wife, Anna, has stayed by his side during this time, but that doesn’t mean everything has been copacetic for Anna Duggar. In fact, rumors are swirling there’s been some Duggar family friction.

As Josh Duggar has lingered in the third party home of family friends, Anna Duggar and their six kids (a seventh is on the way) have been more spending less time with the Duggar clan, after having allegedly been staying on Jim Bob and Michelle Duggars’ property even before Josh’s arrest. Things seemingly have not been going super smoothly between Anna and her famous in-laws. In fact, a source told The Sun:

Seemingly supporting this is the fact that the kids have spent a lot of time with Anna’s sister Priscilla and her husband rather than with their grandparents Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar in recent weeks while their mother is away. Reports also indicate Anna Duggar has chosen to spend more and more time at Maria and LaCount Reber’s property in Elkins, Arkansas, which is where Josh Duggar is staying.

Though it seems clear that Anna Duggar will be sticking by Josh through this time and the subsequent trial that will follow (though was delayed), she has not openly spoken out about Josh’s arrest. In fact, she hasn’t posted to her social media since April 24 when she shared a post about girl cousins. Her Instagram description still reads, “I'm a Christian. Happily married and have 6 beautiful children!" Her final post was on April 24 just a few days before her husband's arrest on April 29.

Previously, Anna Duggar stuck with Josh after a report broke that detailed molestation of some young women, including other Duggars siblings, when he was a teenager. The former 19 Kids and Counting star was also involved in a scandal when he name was found on a list of Ashley Madison users. He was married to Anna at the time, which is notable, as Ashley Madison was a website where cheating spouses could find outside companionship. Previous reports have indicated the reality TV star may feel her husband is innocent in this latest matter after sticking with him previously.

In the meantime, Josh Duggar isn't due in court until November now and the future is all very uncertain. For example, Josh's income from the car dealership dried up and it shut down before his arrest even happened in 2020. Anna Duggar used to receive money for filming Counting On, but TLC also cancelled that series in the wake of the arrest news. The entire Duggar clan is expected to be out a whole bunch of money in the coming year, but we'll be sure to keep you updated regarding what they all end up doing next.

The fallout from Josh Duggar’s arrest has been substantial. Rifts between certain members of the Duggar clan have been laid bare. Counting On itself was also cancelled, substantiating rumors the show might be getting axed, which means a slew of Duggar siblings are currently out of -- or somewhat out of -- work. Patriarch Jim Bob Duggar and the family will be losing a large chunk of income with the show going off the air on TLC. However, there’s reportedly another problem with the series getting cancelled for the family

According to new reports, along with the alleged $850k per year the Duggar clan will no longer be seeing now that Counting On is no longer an income source, there’s another hitch to the TLC reality series getting cancelled. If a report over at The Sun is accurate, despite the fact the show is no longer on the air, the Counting On stars -- names like Jinger Duggar, Jessa Duggar and many more -- are reportedly all contracted for an additional six months following the cancellation.

A secondary hitch, according to an insider, is that the TLC contracts allegedly prohibit the members of the Duggar family from being too open about familial issues, including the arrest of eldest brother Josh Duggar on child pornography possession charges earlier this year. Though the person the outlet spoke to wasn’t named, they did say:

Now, it is worth noting that certain members of the Duggar clan have addressed either the Counting On cancellation or Josh Duggar’s arrest. Jim Bob and his wife Michelle Duggar broke their own silence when they crafted a cancellation message and Jinger Duggar Vuolo and her husband Jeremy also wrote a statement basically thanking the crew for specifically filming the show and the fans who stuck with Counting On during its 11 seasons on the air.

Similarly, when Josh Duggar had been arrested, a few members of the family crafted statements and sent along prayers. This includes Jessa Duggar Seewald and the aforementioned Jinger Duggar Vuolo, both of whom were names connected to the molestation report release that happened a few years before Josh Duggar’s arrest on child pornography-related charges. Really, however, most of the reports about Duggar's arrest and his time out on bail have not come from comments Duggar clan members made themselves.

Meanwhile, some of the Duggars do have outside sources of income. Several of the Counting On stars have active YouTube accounts with ads. One of them has gotten into selling items on Poshmark. Jinger and Jeremy Vuolo recently published a book. In regards to what they can or cannot do on television, the insider information has not been confirmed by TLC and is unlikely to be, but I do wonder if even outside of the contracts, Counting On’s cancellation might give the family time to heal and not have to process the Josh Duggar arrest news on television. Perhaps a rest from TV would actually be a positive, despite any monetary side effects.

It's pretty safe to say that the Duggar family has been one of TLC's biggest audience-grabbers for the last 13 years, putting out around 325 episodes of TV across both 19 Kids and Counting and the most recent iteration Counting On. The latter was cancelled in the aftermath of Josh Duggar's highly publicized arrest on charges of receiving and possessing child pornography. That controversy has obviously been a major setback for many of the Duggars on a personal level - at least those who stuck around this long - but a recent report allegedly shows just how big of a financial setback Counting On's demise will be for Jim Bob Duggar and his ever-growing family.

By and large, Jim Bob Duggar & Co. were bringing in a hefty chunk of change in order to put their lives on display for TLC's Counting On, which lasted for eleven seasons in the six years it aired. And while The Sun's report about the Duggars' financial situation isn't exactly the equivalent to a pile of bank statements, it's stated that the family averaged more than 3/4 of a million dollars for each season that aired. Here's what the outlet's sources said:

Speaking to the wildly varying episode counts, only once during Counting On's eleven-season run were there back-to-back seasons with the same number of installments - Seasons 6 and 7 featured seven each - while numbers ranged from as low as three episodes in Season 1 to 13 episodes in Season 3. That meant TLC could throw together two seasons a year, which means Jim Bob Duggar was pulling in around $1.7 million a year, presumably before taxes. And it may have been even more in 2017, during which Seasons 4, 5, and 6 all aired. That said, it's unclear if the Duggars were making less per season during the earlier years of the show.

While that's obviously a lot of money in most contexts, one also has to think about how many Duggar family members were involved with filming, and how the money would need to be split up amongst everyone. Although maybe that's not exactly the case, since it was also reported that Jim Bob Duggar allegedly isn't so great about sharing funds accordingly. There have supposedly been arguments behind the scenes concerning Counting On's stars being paid accordingly for the work they put into filming. As such, the cancellation news, while obviously highly unfortunate given the reasoning, allows for Jim Bob and Michelle's children to strike out on their own.

Even under the best circumstances, missing out on more than $850,000 a year would be highly damaging to one's daily life, but Jim Bob Duggar is allegedly worse off in this situation as he's reportedly the person who's been paying for Josh Duggar's legal fees as the son attempts to fight the charges in the months ahead of his November trial. If found guilty, he could face a maximum of 20 years in prison. Considering Counting On only produced one season in 2020, and zero seasons for 2021, the family's troubles may get worse before they get better, which almost definitely won't help the already strained relationships.

While Josh Duggar wasn't even part of the Counting On spinoff, since it was molestation accusations against him that led to the cancellation of 19 Kids and Counting, and that situation still hasn't been fully resolved yet. Could the Duggar family return to TV in another iteration at some point down the road once the disgraced Duggar's legal situation is resolved one way or another? TLC is likely already counting the days the same say Jim Bob Duggar is counting his dollars.

When Counting On was cancelled just a few days ago, the Duggar clan was, for the most part, not super vocal about the TLC decision after 11 seasons on the air. Jinger Duggar did speak out, and the clan’s famous parents Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar eventually crafted their own statement, but Jill and Derrick Dillard remained strangely silent, a choice I found to be a little odd after all of their outspoken comments against the Duggars in recent years. Now, finally, they’ve decided to speak up, but I’m still surprised it didn’t happen sooner.

How Jill And Derick Dillard Finally Responded To The Cancellation News

If you know anything about Jill and Derick Dillard it’s that the couple was actually a part of Counting On when it first hit the airwaves. However, Derick Dillard and Jill Duggar’s relationship with Jim Bob in particular soured during their time on the show and they ultimately left Counting On in 2017. Now, days after Counting On was cancelled by TLC, the family has shared their thoughts regarding their experience on the reality series one more time.

The “pressures” and “unexpected challenges” Jill Duggar Dillard and Derick Dillar are speaking on here have been heavily detailed and have been detailed repeatedly before. Derrick, in particular, has aggressively stated his case for why the couple is somewhat estranged from her family and his in-laws.

I’d go so far as to call it a feud, albeit a one-sided one, as Jim Bob Duggar and Michelle have largely been absent from the actual conversation. Derrick Dillard, on the other hand, has called out the famous matriarch and patriarch for “false narratives” and has also alleged Jim Bob will “attack the victims if they threaten his show.” In the time since, Jill and Derick Dillard said

Their main feelings on the cancellation news? “Better Late Than Never.” But given how they have responded in the past, the response here was pretty late. I would have guessed they would have jumped at the chance to comment on the downfall of Counting On, which effectively ends the Duggar family reality empire. Some of the Duggars have already started side hustles on YouTube, or in one case, selling clothing on Poshmark.

Why Were Jill And Derick Dillard So Late To Respond To TLC’s Counting On Cancellation?

Well, according to the former reality couple, they weren’t given any advance notice on the cancellation. Couple that with the fact they are the busy parents of two boys and the response, according to them, just wan't a huge priority. (Particularly when there were Fourth of July celebrations to plan!)

Given just a few months ago, Jill Duggar Dillard said there’s “still drama” with her family, I would have imagined they would have been bursting to speak out. This is particularly true given Derick Dillard has been one to shoot from the hip with comments in the past. However, Counting On got cancelled amidst a slew of sensitive topics for the family, including Josh Duggar getting arrested on multiple charges related to child pornography after his family (and Jill)-related molestation report from years ago.This time, it seems they opted to avoid adding any fuel to the fire and to go their own way. The two have, after all, been away from the show for awhile, and have been in therapy to boot.

It’s been a long few weeks for the Duggar clan as the former 19 Kids and Counting co-stars have seen their brother or son arrested on child pornography charges. The sequel to that series Counting On was also cancelled in the aftermath, leaving some of the show’s stars with more limited income streams. Now matriarch and patriarch Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar have finally broken their silence in the aftermath.

Unfortunately, if you were hoping for a frank response to the end of the Duggars’ reality run on television, you are going to be very disappointed. Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar remained very optimistic (and used a lot of exclamation points) in their statement to the public, beginning with the following comment (via the family’s site):

Nearly two decades have passed since the Duggar clan first came to TLC fame. At the time, Jim Bob, Michelle and their children were the focus of the series in a set of shows with the ...And Counting moniker as they continued to add to their brood. However, after a molestation report was revealed related to Josh Duggar in his youth, it rocked the family to the core. Still, some of the clan members were able to pick up the pieces and remain popular on TLC via Counting On, which followed the family via the lens of some of the siblings.

Counting On made it through 11 seasons on TLC, but after Josh Duggar’s arrest on one count of receiving child pornography and one count of possessing child pornography, there were rumors the show would get cancelled. Those rumors turned out to be true and TLC finally said goodbye to the series last week.

Though they do briefly touch on "difficult and painful moments," Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar say they are only looking forward and not looking back. They thanked the crew that stuck with them over the years and noted:

So far, Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar have not officially commented on Josh Duggar's arrest, though Jim Bob did try at the bail hearing to become the host for Josh Duggar as he awaited trial. Instead, he was sent to a third-party home in Elkins, Arkansas with a reported connection to his wife Anna Duggar. While TLC has not officially commented that the arrest impacted Counting On, the timing fits. TLC's statement itself also mentioned, "TLC feels it is important to give the Duggar family the opportunity to address their situation privately," so it does seem that one situation impacted the other.

Meanwhile, regarding the rest of the clan, most have not broken their silence on the cancellation of the reality series. One exception to that would be Jinger Duggar, who noted at the time of the show getting cancelled that she and her husband "wholeheartedly agree" with the network's decision. Josh Duggar was expected to go on trial this month, though his lawyers recently pushed to delay that court date.

There’s a lot that has already been written about Josh Duggar, his arrest on two child pornography-related charges and his subsequent bail into a third party household. While out on bail, Duggar has been staying with the Reber family, friends who allegedly know the Duggar family via their church community and who may have another connection through Anna Duggar's brother. Now, details about the home have reportedly emerged regarding where the former 19 Kids and Counting star is staying.

We heard a few weeks ago that the cops were called to a nearby residence near LaCount and Maria Reber’s property, where Duggar is housed. At the time, the neighbor alleged a stranger had been trespassing, though from reports it seems like the onlooker at the time was on a public road. Meanwhile, it seems as if the neighborhood is getting its fair share of gawkers, one of whom recently snapped some photos of the Reber household as Josh Duggar awaits his trial date.

An onlooker in Elkins, Arkansas recently snapped some photos of the property. Those photos, which can be seen over at Fox News, show a large property that lately features with "no trespassing" signs. The blinds on the house have been drawn so that anyone near the property cannot see inside. The unnamed source who spoke with Fox News called the whole thing “oppressive,” also noting the desolate landscape the property is on.

We know from Josh Duggar’s bail hearing that the former reality star is limited on access. He can’t use any devices that are connected to the Internet. He is able to see his pregnant wife Anna and their six children; however, Anna must be present if he is spending time with his kids. In addition, Duggar is not allowed to be around other kids in the family. A request for Josh Duggar to stay at the residence owned by his famous parents Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar was denied. In short, a lack of access to people would make sense.

The person who visited the area near the property also mentioned that they had been by that way before and that the property itself seems to be a little more "desolate" and less well taken care of than it used to feel. It is worth noting this is just the impression the unnamed person felt while visiting, though now that Josh Duggar's stay may well be longer, the property will likely remain closed up for a while.

In fact, Josh Duggar’s trial was expected to kick off in July, but his lawyers recently filed paperwork to push back that date. So, Duggar’s stay in the “oppressive” home may be continuing for some time while he awaits his court date. We’ll keep you updated if there are any other developments in the case.

After a bail hearing related to Josh Duggar and the two counts of child pornography-related charges the former reality star is facing, he was released on bail. However, though Jim Bob Duggar reportedly wanted Josh released to the family home in Arkansas, he was instead surrendered to a third party home. Now, news has broken indicating that shortly after Duggar moved, the cops were called.

Where Josh Duggar is staying is not exactly a secret. Reports have shown he was released into the care of Lacount and Maria Reber, Arkansas residents and family friends of the Duggar clan. They reside on a large property that does have neighbors, though those neighbors are not super close. In fact, one neighbor previously told The Sun there’s a horse pasture between their two properties. So, there's lots of space separating residents.

Still, though the neighbors knew Josh Duggar would be underfoot, they may not have accounted for the additional traffic that would come from having the 19 Kids and Counting Star in close proximity. In fact, early in May -- just two days after Josh Duggar had been moved to the temporary place of residence in Elkins, Arkansas -- police were called. The reason? A suspicious car had been underfoot on property.

KNWA obtained audio of the 911 phone call placed related to the property, which features a caller noting “I don’t feel safe’ after a car had been on or near their property multiple times. Police allegedly caught up with the owner of the car, who said he was a media person and who noted he was not parked on personal property.

People nosing about has been a real concern in relation to the Duggar arrest and subsequent bail situation, not just with the neighbors but allegedly with dad Jim Bob as well. A report over at The Sun spoke to an outside source, who says that Jim Bob Duggar is “very concerned” for Josh’s well-being during this time. That unnamed source noted:

Separately, that report indicates that Jim Bob Duggar may be thinking of building a fence around the property Josh Duggar is currently staying at. Duggar would pay for the fence on the Reber's property, according to reports.

It’s unclear if the fence thing will actually come to fruition. However, we do know that Josh Duggar’s trial is expected to kick off next month in court, so it's unclear how much longer he will be on the Reber property. We’ll keep you updated as more details continue coming out related to one count of receipt of child pornography and one count of possession of child pornography charges.

Jill Duggar Dillard and her husband Derick Dillard may no longer be stars on TLC’s Counting On, but they are counting on YouTube revenue. The couple recently created an account on the social media platform to share parts of their daily lives as well as answer fan questions. Given drama between the Dillards and Duggar patriarch Jim Bob, friction has been rumored with the family for a while, but now Jill and Derick are touching on what’s going on a little more.

In a brand new Q&A, Jill and Derick Dillard talked quitting Counting On. They also finally admitted that there is definitely distance between the Duggars and the Dillards and they are not talking about the social distancing kind.

However, Derick Dillard is and has been quick to point out that they do show up for major family events and are not out of the family loop entirely. Everyone involved seems to be trying to some extent, though the Dillards mention if people aren’t seeing them at big events on Counting On – things like weddings or funerals or major family get togethers – that’s most likely because they are being cut out of the show. Which makes sense, given they quit the series altogether.

It’s been rumored that Jill and Derick Dillard had “distanced” themselves from the rest of the Duggar clan for a while. This grew to be more of a talking point for the fanbase after Derick had addressed some of the rumors related to he and his wife’s alleged issues with the show earlier in 2020. Derick has been more blunt about the drama with Jim Bob and the Duggar clan, saying his family felt attacked when they tried to leave the show and using a bunch of adjectives such as "humiliated" to describe his experience on Counting On. He says less in the new Q&A, but is it a huge shock that drama on a reality series can sometimes bleed into real-life familial relations?

The couple had previously said that it was possible they could eventually return to the world of Counting On, but clearly this video stresses that if they were to rejoin it would need to be on their own terms. Given the distance between Jill and Derick Dillard and her family right now, I would not count any of those chickens before they hatch.

Meanwhile, Counting On is continuing its run on TLC with a lot of the other Duggar clan attached. These days, Jana, John and Abbie Duggar, Jessa and Ben Seewold, Jinger and Jeremy Vuolo, Joy-Anna and Austin Forsyth, Joe and Kendra Duggar, and Josiah and Lauren Duggar are still on board, with Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar, Josh’s wife Anna and a slew of kids also appearing. On the other hand, the rumor mill has indicated that Jill and Derick may be looking to travel abroad again, which may square with some of the reasons there were issues with Counting On to begin with.

There’s always a lot going on with the Duggar clan given the sheer number of Duggars who are known in pop culture, but one of the stories that has been a bigger deal this year has been the reported feud between Jim Bob Duggar and his son-in-law Derick Dillard. The latter has been open about a lot of the issues between his family and the Duggar patriarch, who has remained rather mum on the topic himself. But could Derick and Jill Duggar ever actually return to Counting On?

If you had asked me a short time, ago I would have hedged my bets on a definite “no” answer, but in a recent exchange with a fan, it seems like Derick Dillard at least holds some hope that the relationship between himself and Jim Bob could be repaired down the line. Or at least be repaired enough to warrant a return to Counting On.

When a fan asked whether or not Derick and Jill, who did appear in early seasons of Counting On, could make their return, Derick was noncommittal, but more positive about the potential prospect than you’d probably guess.

Of course, he could just be being polite. Or he could still deep down want to be a part of Counting On. Derick Dillard previously said that the rumors that he and Jill don’t want to be around Jim Bob, Michelle and the other Duggars are not true, which seems to be evidenced by the fact that Jill is sometimes still seen in social media posts with her sisters. But that also doesn't necessarily mean they are champing at the bit to be reality stars again.

In fact, he has said that Jim Bob controlled pretty much every aspect of Counting On when the Dillards were still on that series. This led to conflict and led to Jill and Derick Dillard leaving the series back in 2017. Per Derick, the controlling nature of being on the reality series was just too much for their little family, so they left.

Derick Dillard has also said that since they have kids and have moved on it’s been “more OK” that they quit Counting On and have been able to focus on their family in the time since. Then again, he’s also said he’s considered doing his own sort of reality livestream and he and Jill have a YouTube page, so there is definitely some interest in still remaining a reality personality, whether or not that is through Counting On.

It was only a few months ago that TLC even finally revealed the Duggars would be back for Season 11 of Counting On on the network. The new episodes had been rumored for a while, but when we finally got word they were in the pipeline Derick and Jill were not mentioned as being a part of the Season 11 cast. So even if amends are made, and that’s an if, I’m guessing it would be some time before we could see the Dillard family on the small screen again.

Meanwhile, there’s still a lot going on in Duggar world. Jessa Duggar Seewald recently had to debunk a pregnancy rumor, while Lauren Duggar opened up about her painful labor. There’s always a lot going on with this clan. Meanwhile, Jill this week shared the first look at her son Israel heading to school.

Jill Duggar has not personally spoken out about her feelings related to the ongoing reported feud between her husband Derick Dillard and her father Jim Bob Duggar. However, following some additional comments from Derick Dillard earlier this month, she’s spent some time focusing on her little family and a small circle of intimate friends.

Earlier in July, Derick Dillard spoke out again about patriarch Jim Bob Duggar’s alleged hold on the family, noting in a series of Instagram comments that the TLC series Counting On is still basically under Jim Bob’s full control. He told one fan that he and Jill were only able to leave once Jim Bob's focus was allegedly elsewhere, noting,

Derick Dillard also told a fan he had considered doing his own livestream while Counting On is airing. If he does that, he believes he can share the real tea regarding what is going on during each episode, rather than what TLC chooses to show the fans.

A short day later, Jill Duggar seemingly shared a little solidarity with her husband on Instagram Stories, noting he is her “favorite person” in a post about going to get lunch with her little family. Some have taken this as a slight against Jim Bob as Jill Duggar has continued to praise her husband even after he has repeatedly written out about her dad. However, it should be noted Jill Duggar has not specifically commented on these matters herself. In addition, Jim Bob and TLC have not commented on anything Dillard has alleged.

A few months ago, we heard that Jill’s time with her family had allegedly been limited by Jim Bob, at least according to Derick, who also said that he and Jill try to keep “healthy boundaries” with the Duggar clan. Of course this whole thing has been complicated by quarantine and later social distancing rules, but the gist seems to be that Jill is seeing less of her family, though prior to social distancing, she was still occasionally seen in images with her clan.

All families are complicated and the Duggar family is larger than most and has stricter rules. As adults some of the former members of 19 Kids and Counting have really gone on to do their own things, as happened when Jinger Vuolo moved with her family to the West Coast. There are some rumors that Derick Dillard and Jill will also be moving, as the Dillards are fond of misson work. Given the unrest in their family and in the world, now may be a good time for a change.

A short time ago, Anna and Josh Duggar sold their house. At the time, the couple was still dealing with the fallout of the accusations Josh had molested his sisters and other members of the community as a young man. Since then, the family really hasn’t left the Duggar compound leaving some fans totally convinced the couple is just biding their time to inherit Michelle and Jim Bob’s house.

You know the house. Situated in Springdale, Arkansas, Michelle and Jim Bob’s large home was a major component of 19 Kids and Counting when it was first on the air on TLC. We’ve seen its green roof and large kitchen with two stove tops. We’ve seen its multiple washers and dryers (four apiece!) to accommodate a large family. It’s a pretty nice house and I can see why someone in the family would hope they might inherit it, particularly as they grow their large families.

Apparently, some Reddit users are firmly convinced that Anna and Josh Duggar have stayed put for so long near Michele and Jim Bob so that they can inherit the house. Obviously, it’s not like any of these people have specific insider information, but as far as theories go, this one at least is interesting to extrapolate out, given how long Josh and Anna have hung around.

The basic deal is that after Anna Duggar and Josh Duggar lived together in a home they’d purchased for the mere sum of $55,000 from 2016-2019. That year, they made a huge profit on the home, selling it for $285,000. However, they didn’t find a new place to live to accommodate their growing family at that time (in fact they welcomed baby #6 last November). So, they allegedly moved into what is likely the warehouse on the Duggar property.

It really hasn’t been that long in the scheme of things since the other Duggar clan moved in; regardless, they’ve shown no signs of leaving Jim Bob’s property, either. The two couples are pretty cozy and since they live so near to one another, they even double date on occasion. Anna Duggar has shared posts like this one to reveal how close she and Josh are with Michelle and Jim Bob.

When not double dating, Anna Duggar often posts from the main house, indicating they aren’t in a hurry to move out either. Honestly, it seems to be fine with the matriarch and patriarch of the family that they've stuck around. For example, Anna Duggar’s birthday was this week and Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar’s official account also shared a post with Anna and her baby, calling her a “natural nurturer.” She responded, saying, ‘Aww love you guys so much.” So, things at least seem on the surface to be going swimmingly.

All of these separate events have led a faction of the fanbase to assume Anna and Josh intentions may not be super clear, but it’s worth pointing out that Jim Bob and Michelle still have kids at home and family members visiting frequently. They seem to be staying put, at least for now, but I’d guess it certainly doesn’t hurt that they get to spend so much time with their son Josh, his wife Anna and those grandkids.

It’s also worth mentioning that Joseph Duggar and Kendra Caldwell Duggar (who are a part of TLC's Counting On) also live on Jim Bob’s property in a generational home that was moved to be near the big house. Joseph and Kendra have already been open on the family blog, with Joseph noting ‘We are planning on building a house, as well as still doing the car stuff,” so no one is accusing them of trying to step to the front of the line in regards to who will inherit the big house. Only time will tell what happens, but I'm guessing Josh and Anna's family won't be in a windowless warehouse forever.
