We’re mere hours away from learning who will win The Voice Season 29 and which coach will claim bragging rights for the first-ever Battle of Champions. The Top 9 were cut down to the Top 4 in Monday’s Semifinals, and here, I’m taking a look at that quartet of artists who the studio audience voted through to the finale — which will air Tuesday on the 2026 TV schedule — and picking who I think should win The Voice Season 29.

The Battle of Champions has made a lot of changes to the competition we’ve grown so familiar with (like only having three coaches), and another big one is how the winner will be chosen. For the first time in The Voice’s history, there are no live episodes and no vote from America. I can’t say I love this twist as much as I like the reduction in coaches, but NBC doesn’t really make a habit of asking my opinion. Below, I'll break down the performances that earned these artists a spot in the Top 4 and give my pick for the winner.

SPOILER ALERT! From here on out, I will be discussing the four artists who were voted on to advance to the finale during Monday’s episode. If you haven’t seen the April 13 Semifinals, you can stream the episode with a Peacock subscription.

Team Adam’s Finalist: Alexia Jayy

Alexia Jayy, a 31-year-old singer from Alabama was the first artist voted through by a special studio audience composed of The Voice superfans and alumni, beating out her fellow members of Adam Levine’s team, Jeremy Keith and Jared Shoemaker. This may have only been the Semifinals, but she gave a finale-worthy performance of “I Never Loved a Man (The Way I Love You)” by Aretha Franklin, which you can see above.

The Voice coaches gave her glowing praise, with John Legend saying she exudes creativity and positive energy. Kelly Clarkson — who screamed throughout the performance but was crying by the end — lauded Alexia Jayy’s strength and femininity. Jayy’s coach just said she was “the best singer ever" and that he felt more like a fan than a mentor.

Team Legend’s Finalist: Lucas West

The audience was captivated by 21-year-old Lucas West’s rendition of Paul McCartney’s “Maybe I’m Amazed,” (above) which closed out the Semifinal performances Monday night. The New Yorker will represent John Legend in the finale, knocking out teammates KJ Willis and Syd Millevoi. The coaches called West the complete package, as he dazzled the room with both his piano skills and his voice.

Adam Levine called Lucas West “captivating,” and while Kelly Clarkson said she doesn’t like the lack of intimacy of stadium shows, she thinks West is the kind of artist who would totally crush in that type of venue. John Legend pointed out that his knack for tackling big songs by big artists signalled strong songwriting acumen, and he can’t wait to see some original material.

Team Kelly’s First Finalist: Liv Ciara

Liv Ciara may not have turned a chair in Season 28, but she is making Season 29 her own. The 16-year-old from Missouri produced her own version of Irene Cara’s “Flashdance… What a Feeling,” starting out a capella but building up to those huge runs that you crave in singing competition finales. (You’ll want to watch the above video.) The crowd went absolutely nuts, and Adam Levine said he was sad that she wasn’t on his team:

Kelly Clarkson said a fire’s been lit under Liv Cara, and she’s hungry for the win. Don’t sleep on this one when it’s all on the line in Tuesday’s finale.

Team Kelly’s Second Finalist: Mikenley Brown

Because Kelly Clarkson’s past champions won the All-Star Showdown, she earned a second spot in the finale, which went to Mikenley Brown, the 19-year-old from Indiana. Brown has been an inspiration throughout the competition, and on this night she became a real competitor. Brown sang “I’m Not the Only One” by Sam Smith, and John Legend and Adam Levine said this performance demanded that people take notice of her.

Her coach agreed, as Kelly Clarkson said believability is key with Mikenley Brown. Lots of people can sing a great song, the American Idol alum said, but she buys what Brown is selling. It’s been a joy to watch Brown this season as she spoke out about not letting anyone else tell you who you are. Her song choices spoke to her message all season, from Katy Perry’s “Teenage Dream” to Chappell Roan’s “Pink Pony Club.” Check out her Semifinal performance above.

With Liv Ciara and Mikenley Brown representing Kelly Clarkson in the Season 29 finale, that meant the end of the road for her third semifinalist, country music artist JW Griffin.

Who I Think Should Win, Based On The Semifinals? Alexia Jayy

I’ll admit, I’ve got a soft spot for the blues, so Alexia Jayy’s Semifinal performance was right up my alley. She had the gritty scream, the super low notes and just so much power. I loved her set that had the band circled around her like the queen she is.

This performance was the latest in a season that saw her crush “You Give Good Love” by Whitney Houston and another Aretha song — "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman,” which earned her a Triple Turn in the Blind Auditions. Alexia Jayy hasn’t fumbled, and while she’s still got some performing to do Tuesday, she’s my choice to win going into the final night.

With a whole episode of finale performances to go, the competition is still anyone’s for the taking. The special studio audience will again vote after these four take the stage, and a winner will be announced by the end of the episode. A winner will be announced this week on The Voice, as Season 29’s “Battle of Champions” will be decided in back-to-back slots on the 2026 TV schedule. The end of the Knockouts last week solidified the final nine contestants who will compete for the audience’s vote (not America’s vote) in Monday’s Semifinals, and I’m surprised that both Kelly Clarkson and John Legend made the same candid confession about their final three.

This season’s three coaches — Kelly Clarkson, John Legend and Adam Levine — are each taking a trio of artists into the April 13 episode, and if you’re surprised to see KJ Willis, Syd Millevoi and Lucas West leading the way for Team Legend, well, that makes one of you. The EGOT winner admitted his Top 3 hasn’t changed since the Blind Auditions, telling People:

Strangely enough, Kelly Clarkson said the same thing about JW Griffin, Liv Ciara and Mikenley Brown, as she said to People:

My feelings about these candid confessions are mixed. While this definitely speaks to the strength of the semifinalists, I also feel a bit disheartened for the singers who lost in the Battle and Knockout rounds. How much of a chance did they have to change their coaches’ minds — particularly since, as she pointed out, Kelly Clarkson missed some rehearsal days?

The Voice coaches have discussed in the past how they try not to play favorites and let the performances determine who wins each dual. But, when you’ve got two of three coaches of The Voice saying that their favorites on Day 1 are still their favorites going into the penultimate episode, it just gives me a moment of pause.

That’s not to take away from the semifinalists, though, because they are phenomenal. I really don’t begrudge Kelly Clarkson or John Legend for sticking with these artists. As Legend said about his trio:

Kelly Clarkson spoke to the “raw soul” that she hears in each of her team members. When you’re listening to their music, she said:

I’m excited for the two nights of musical storytelling that are coming our way. The Top 9 will compete at 9 p.m. ET Monday, April 13 in the Semifinals, with the Top 4 (one each from Adam Levine and John Legend’s teams and two from Kelly Clarkson’s as she won the All-Star Showdown) competing in the Season 29 Finale at 9 p.m. ET Tuesday, April 14.

For the first time in The Voice’s history, there will be no live episodes. The Semifinals and Finale were pre-recorded, with the winner decided by a studio audience of alumni and superfans. The results will be announced at the end of Tuesday’s episode.

The Voice “Battle of Champions” is down to its Top 9, with each of Season 29’s trio of coaches finalizing their teams of three in the Knockout round. After the contestants’ final head-to-head performances, the show did something it had never done before — it welcomed back past winners to compete in the inaugural All-Star Showdown, and one performance was so emotional that Kelly Clarkson was brought to tears.

Five champions from The Voice’s past and one former finalist took the stage for a special in-season competition that aired Monday on the 2026 TV schedule. It was actually wonderful to see so many familiar faces perform on The Voice stage again, but for Kelly Clarkson, hearing Season 17 winner Jake Hoot’s cover of “Desperado” caused a strong emotional reaction. She told him:

Others in the studio were clearly moved by Kelly Clarkson’s words, including Girl Named Tom’s Bekah Grace Liechty, who was also seen wiping away tears. You can see Jake Hoot’s moving performance below:

In addition to Jake Hoot, Kelly Clarkson welcomed back Girl Named Tom — the first (and so far only) group to ever win The Voice — while Adam Levine brought back the very first Voice champion, Javier Colon, as well as Jordan Smith. John Legend invited his sole winner, Maelyn Jarmon, and Season 25 finalist Renzo, and I’d have to agree with Clarkson that there was something special about hearing them all sing again.

As some of The Voice coaches said, I’d forgotten just how good these singers were, so it was good to be reminded. I also wasn’t aware of some of the success these artists have seen post-show, including Javier Colon winning a regional Emmy in 2025 for his musical tribute to frontline workers and Jordan Smith co-writing the song “Ashes” that Celine Dion recorded for the Deadpool 2 soundtrack.

Overall, though, the All-Star Showdown was all about the emotion that music evokes, and I certainly can’t blame Kelly Clarkson for shedding a few tears. This season was likely not an easy one for the American Idol champ to get through, as she was dealing with the illness and ultimate death of her ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock. Her absence reportedly caused some “crucial” parts of the season to be delayed, and Jennifer Hudson was called to fill in for her in Battle rehearsals.

As far as the competition goes, though, things are still going Kelly Clarkson’s way. After she won The Voice’s inaugural Triple Turn Competition, her team was also declared the winner of the All-Star Showdown, meaning she’ll take an extra artist into next week’s finals.

It’s pretty wild to see how much of a difference one chair makes (even if that chair is a Big Red one), as The Voice has downsized to just three coaches for Season 29. Adam Levine, Kelly Clarkson and John Legend have been duking it out on the singing competition’s first all-champion panel, but how do they feel about losing their fourth? The Maroon 5 frontman actually loves it, and I’m surprised that I agree with him.

There were a lot of unknowns before The Voice Season 29 premiered on the 2026 TV schedule, with host Carson Daly promising plenty of all-new twists for the sports-themed “Battle of Champions.” Going from four coaches to three was arguably the biggest change though, and it’s one that has been fully embraced by Adam Levine, who told NBC:

Fans of The Voice know that Adam Levine loves to cause trouble, so it makes sense that he supports a change that makes it easier for him to banter with his fellow coaches of The Voice. He also said his familiarity with Kelly Clarkson and John Legend — who all appeared together on Season 16, along with Blake Shelton — forced him to get more creative in pitching himself to potential team members.

I have to say, I agree with him, and I wasn’t sure that would be the case. I was frankly confused by the Season 29 revamp and definitely not happy with the number of contestants being reduced to 30 (10 per coach), in comparison to the 48 or more we’ve seen in previous seasons.

However, just like taking the coach count down allows for a better rapport amongst them, I think giving more time to fewer artists has benefited Season 29 so far. For one thing, the coaches were super picky about which singers they turned for, creating some amazingly talented teams. In fact, Adam Levine called one Team Kelly battle from March 16 the “best Battle round in the history of the show.” (See that performance below.)

We’ve also been able to get to know the contestants better, with no performances being severely truncated in the interest of saving time. While I’d still like to see more than 30 artists on future seasons, I actually loved having fewer nights of Blind Auditions, because by the time we got to the Battles, I hadn’t completely forgotten the singers we met in the beginning.

I’m not sure the reduction to three Big Red Chairs is something we’ll see permanently, but I agree with Adam Levine that there are benefits to the format that could open up producers’ options going forward.

Things have already gotten a bit fiery on The Voice’s revamped 29th season, especially between Kelly Clarkson and John Legend, as they — along with Adam Levine — compete to win the show’s first season with an all-champion coaching panel. First, Legend turned Reba McEntire against her own former daughter-in-law, and then things got really interesting during a strong debate over song choice strategy. In fact, their “fight” actually changed my opinion on how important coach selection is.

Don’t get me wrong, obviously some artists are going to gel better with specific coaches — it’s the main reason I’m glad they’ve done away with Blocks — but for the most part I’ve always thought that singers would benefit from the mentorship, regardless of which of The Voice coaches they landed with. I’m not so sure anymore. On the second night of auditions (airing March 2 on the 2026 TV schedule), Mike Steele earned that coveted Triple Turn, and the mentors went about trying to recruit him to their team.

John Legend started by asking what artists the 28-year-old Mississippi singer liked to cover, likely already forming a plan of which GIVĒON, Tyrese and Jodeci songs he could get for his potential team member. Kelly Clarkson, however, was concocting a different strategy, as she said:

John Legend clearly disagreed with this line of thinking, as he addressed the artist on stage:

Probably around this point, Adam Levine started attempting to remind Mike Steele that he also had turned his chair, and while he didn’t offer his own song choice strategy, he did offer him refuge from the drama, saying he hated it “when Mom and Dad fight.” But the debate continued:

• Kelly: I’m going to be honest with you. We’re so different, so everything he said, I would not do. So don’t choose me if that’s what you like. No, because here’s why. It’s because I went on a competition and sang Aretha Franklin almost every week, and then I made a pop-rock album. This is the time, I think, that you should stretch yourself a bit.
• John: But he’s doing it on national TV. This is his moment. This is his moment to tell people who he is.
• Kelly: I just think this is the moment that you are able to stretch and do things. So I don’t think you should pick me if that’s the route you want to go, because I am totally going to push you to pick things that are maybe outside of the box.

It got pretty intense, with Kelly Clarkson even reminding everyone that, hey, I won American Idol, remember? Thankfully, the tension didn’t last long, as they hugged it out and agreed they were done fighting.

Honestly I see both sides. I’m inclined to agree with John Legend, because if an artist only gets one or two weeks of national exposure, they can still start to grow a fanbase if they’ve more or less previewed the kind of album they’d want to make.

However, it’s also really hard to argue with somebody who not only has actually been through this process and achieved so much success in its aftermath, but also has taken more artists to The Voice finish line than her compatriots.

Either way, it’s really interesting to see how different coaches approach their artists’ journeys, and it proved just how important it is to choose the right coach. Mike Steele ended up going with John Legend, so he must have connected with the EGOT winner’s plan to take advantage of his moment. You can see Steele’s audition and the ensuing debate below:

The Voice’s revamped Season 29 is underway, with some pretty major changes to the competition’s structure, including the impending return of some past fan favorites and only featuring three coaches this season. The Voice has leaned into Kelly Clarkson, Adam Levine and John Legend not having a fourth superstar to compete against by initiating a new twist — the Triple Turn Competition — but I can’t help but think the prize is not significant enough to justify all of the hype.

Four Chair Turns have always been a big deal on The Voice, and that makes sense because of how often they produce the season’s eventual winner. The coaches wear it like a badge of honor when they’re able to convince an artist to join their team over the other three, so in that respect, I like the idea of attaching a prize to whoever can do it the most. However, they’re going way overboard in terms of how much of a difference this prize will make in the competition.

Let me break it down. When The Voice Season 29 Blind Auditions wrap (which will be the next episode to hit the 2026 TV schedule on March 9), whichever coach has won the most Three Chair Turns will earn a Super Steal for the Battles. That means they can immediately secure an eliminated artist from another team, bypassing any other coaches' steal attempts.

However, with just three coaches this season and no Saves, the mentor with the Super Steal will — at most — be going up against one other coach. So the big advantage is getting an artist that they already had a 50% chance at anyway. That’s kind of underwhelming, especially with all the hoopla surrounding the Triple Turn Competition.

Basically, all John Legend talked about on the March 2 episode was how determined he was to beat out Adam Levine and Kelly Clarkson on a Triple Turn. The Voice has even brought in comedian Druski and former NBA player Derek Fisher to remind us of where the coaches stand.

No shade to them at all, because they’re being asked to break down a very simple on-screen graphic that reads, “Adam Levine: 3, Kelly Clarkson: 2, John Legend: 1.” There’s literally not much to say other than, “Can Adam maintain the momentum?” and “John better step it up!” I see what the show is trying to do with the whole sports-themed season, but it’s just simply not worthy of such fanfare.

It would be different if there were still four coaches, and the Super Steal had the power to override two other coaches’ regular Steals. Also, if the Super Steal were given in addition to the competition winner’s regular Steal, thus adding a team member for that person to take into the Knockouts, that would be major.

As it is, though, the Triple Turn Competition is underwhelming with such low stakes that it’s increasingly bothersome how much emphasis is being put on it during the Blind Auditions. At least the first round of competition is almost over. The Voice is officially back, as the “Battle of Champions” premiered on the 2026 TV schedule, introducing the first of the artists hoping to work with either Adam Levine, Kelly Clarkson or John Legend. The NBC singing competition is packing a lot into its revamped 29th season, including a couple of twists we haven’t seen before. One of those — the Triple Turn Competition — kicked off February 23, and I can’t get over how quickly Legend blew up his chances.

What Is The Voice’s Triple Turn Competition?

There’s a reason there are only three coaches on The Voice this season, and it’s got a lot to do with trying to fit in all the fun of NBC’s sports-themed Legendary February. Big twists coming to Season 29 include an “In-Season All-Star Competition,” in which fan-favorite alumni will go head-to-head to try to earn an advantage for their former coach, as well as the Triple Turn Competition.

The Voice has always made a big deal about Four-Chair Turns, and it’s going a step further now that the coach count has been reduced — whichever superstar mentor wins the most Triple Turn artists gets a Super Steal in the next round. That means they’ll have the power to steal the losing artist of a battle for their team, regardless of who else wants a shot at them.

With the start of Blind Auditions, the Triple Turn Competition kicked off, and that’s where we get to the misfortune of John Legend.

How John Legend ‘Engineered [His] Own Demise’

Alexia Jayy was the second artist to take the stage on The Voice Season 29, and all three coaches wanted to work with her after hearing her version of "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman." When the mentors learned that Jayy’s 9-year-old son Matthew was there to support his mom, they brought him out on stage, and this happened:

• John Legend: Who do you listen to, Matthew?
• Matthew: Maroon 5.
• John Legend: Oh no, that backfired!

This elicited a lot of fist-pumping from Adam Levine, as he ran on stage to thank Matthew. John Legend realized the error of his ways, commenting:

Unfortunately, he was right, because Alexia Jayy chose Team Adam. The Maroon 5 frontman treated Matthew and his mother to the basketball jerseys being given to each contestant, but Carson Daly suggested that Adam Levine probably owed him something more expensive, like a car, for helping to close that deal.

As the celebrations continued, John Legend had a bitter pill to swallow, telling cameras:

The EGOT winner continued to pace the stage in the downtime between auditions, musing regretfully to the crowd chanting Adam’s name:

Come on, John, you’ve got four kids — you know better than to ask questions you don’t want the honest answers to!

While the “Glory” singer’s faux pas had no direct bearing on the other two Triple Turns of the episode, his luck didn’t get any better. Kelly Clarkson (who was done dirty herself by her own ex-mother-in-law Reba McEntire) won Abigayle Oakley from the other Voice coaches, and Adam Levine also procured Jeremy Keith, putting him in the lead of the side competition after one night.

Will John Legend be able to rally? Only time will tell, but I bet he’ll think twice before inviting more family members on stage. The Voice Season 29 Blind Auditions continue at 9 p.m. ET Monday, March 2, on NBC and streaming the next day with a Peacock subscription.

The Voice: Battle of Champions is underway on the 2026 TV schedule, with Season 29 featuring just three coaches. Kelly Clarkson may have thought she was only going up against Adam Levine and John Legend, but she got quite the shock when Reba McEntire made a surprise appearance in the premiere. The queen of country popped in with an interesting message for this season’s contestants, and I can’t even believe she did her former daughter-in-law so dirty.

With no country music coach like Blake Shelton or Reba McEntire on this season’s panel, Kelly Clarkson admitted that she felt entitled to country artists like 19-year-old Julia Golden, who impressed both Clarkson and John Legend with her rendition of “Strawberry Wine.” Legend may not be as closely associated with the genre as his Texas-native colleague, but he sure did have a secret weapon. None other than McEntire herself popped up on the screen to deliver the following video message:

The disrespect is astonishing. Not only are Kelly Clarkson and Reba McEntire longtime friends who have performed together multiple times, they are family, with Clarkson having been married to McEntire’s stepson Brandon Blackstock.

The American Idol champion seemed to have the same thoughts, as upon seeing her former mother-in-law on the screen, she stood up and shouted:

No offense to John Legend at all, because of course the EGOT winner could do extremely well with a country music artist, but I’m just not buying the fact that Reba McEntire would go against Kelly Clarkson like that. Even host Carson Daly seemed to be in disbelief, saying:

Believe me, I watched the video back a few times to see if it was, in fact, a deepfake, and I'm still not fully convinced. Speaking to its validity, though, was Kelly Clarkson then getting Reba McEntire on the phone. The “Fancy” singer answered, though she kept her video turned off as Clarkson literally screamed:

Reba McEntire can be heard over the speakerphone telling The Voice coach to “Calm down, girl!” and ultimately agreed that, yes, Kelly Clarkson would also be an excellent coach for a country music artist. They ended the call by exchanging “I love you”s, with Clarkson saying:

In the end, the big swing by John Legend and Reba McEntire didn’t pay off, as Julia Golden decided to go with Kelly Clarkson anyway. The artist was in tears for pretty much the entire ordeal, in tearful disbelief as she asked, “Is Reba on the phone?” You can see it all play out below:

Even if Kelly Clarkson wasn’t more than qualified to coach a country artist, I think having Reba McEntire on speed-dial was enough to win Julia over.

With no Blocks available to the coaches — and therefore no way to keep Kelly Clarkson from raking in country artists — I don’t blame John Legend for calling in a pro, and I can’t wait to see what other twists are to come in The Voice’s revamped 29th season. The Voice’s revamped 29th season is finally upon us, and some big changes are coming with the return of NBC’s singing competition to the 2026 TV schedule. One of the biggest twists of the new season will be obvious from the start — for the first time in The Voice’s history, there are only three coaches instead of four. This major switchup confused me at first, but there’s a good reason for it, according to the showrunner.

Kelly Clarkson, Adam Levine and John Legend will be Season 29’s coaching trio, making up The Voice’s first-ever all-champion panel. However, it’s not like those are the only three coaches to ever win the show (nobody’s forgetting Blake Shelton’s nine victories), so why the reduction? According to EP Audrey Morrissey, it has to do with NBC adding NBA games to its primetime lineup, which resulted in fewer episodes and therefore smaller teams.

In fact, the teams are so small, there aren’t really enough contestants to justify a fourth coach, the EP told Gold Derby:

That's not even to mention how this all affects Brilliant Minds.

The Voice Season 29 will feature 30 singers vying for The Voice glory, with John Legend, Kelly Clarkson and Adam Levine each leading a team of 10. Assuming that was the largest number of contestants the show could accommodate with its reduced episode count, that means adding a fourth coach would have led to teams of around 7, which I agree would be “ridiculous.”

As it is, 30 is already such a lower number than we’re used to. In Season 28, which saw Niall Horan’s team member Aiden Ross crowned the champion (leaving the One Directioner’s record on the show unblemished), there were 48 contestants chosen in Blind Auditions — 12 per team.

Season 27 also had 48, while Season 26 had a whopping 56-artist cast in 2024 — nearly double what we’re about to see this season.

There could be other factors at play in this “Battle of Champions,” as Ceelo Green will judge an "In-Season All-Star Competition," with each coach bringing back two fan-favorite team members. They will compete in head-to-head battles themselves, in hopes of earning their coach an extra artist in the finale. Those artists are:

Team Kelly

• Jake Hoot
• Girl Named Tom

Team Adam

• Javier Colon
• Jordan Smith

Team Legend

• Maelyn Jarmon
• Renzo

I’m not sure how many times the veteran artists will perform, but clearly this side contest also takes away time that would have otherwise been used by the singers in the main competition.

These aren’t the only big twists in store for The Voice Season 29. One change I’m super pumped for is no Blocks in the Blind Auditions, but I’m actually really disappointed that they’re also doing away with live episodes. Finale voting instead will fall to an in-studio audience of past contestants and superfans.

I'm interested in seeing how going from four coaches to three affects their strategies and, thankfully, we don’t have to wait any longer. The Voice Season 29 kicks off at 9 p.m. ET Monday, February 23, on NBC and streaming the next day with a Peacock subscription.

So many big celebrities appeared on the original run of Star Search, including Adam Sandler, Destiny’s Child, the Backstreet Boys, Usher and more. So it makes sense that the series would be revived for the 2026 TV schedule in hopes of discovering even more talent. Chrissy Teigen was one of the celebrity judges tapped to provide feedback on the acts, and it turns out her children have been getting in on the fun, too, trolling their mom with Star Search’s own rating system.

Anthony Anderson served as the host of the Star Search reboot, which allowed Netflix subscription holders to vote live for the singers, comedians, magicians and other talented contestants, grading their acts on a scale of 1 to 5 stars. Along with Chrissy Teigen, Jelly Roll and Sarah Michelle Gellar also gave scores, which apparently has served as inspiration to Teigen and John Legend’s children. She told People:

I can definitely see how watching their mom rate talent acts on Star Search would inspire her kids to share their own opinions in such a way around the house. Chrissy Teigen shares four children with John Legend — Luna, 9, Miles, 7, Esti, 3, and Wren, 2 — and the littles sound more like Jelly Roll, throwing out 5 stars for any and all reasons.

Luna and Miles, meanwhile, apparently have more discerning tastes, particularly when it comes to Chrissy Teigen’s skills in the kitchen. She said:

Her kiddos are still young enough that they’re probably brutally honest, so if she’s avoided the 3s, I’d say she’s doing pretty dang good. It’s not just her cooking, though, that has earned Chrissy Teigen the respect of her progeny. Seeing her on TV — just like they see their father John Legend serving as a coach on The Voice — has earned her some esteem. She continued:

Even if Star Search hasn’t been able to compete with America’s Got Talent or The Voice, I love that Chrissy Teigen’s kids have gotten to see her in this position of power, and while they may be trolling her at home by using the star system, I think it’s pretty cool that they’re emulating her.

We’ll have to see if Star Search earns a Season 2 or if it will be yet another Netflix show canceled after one season.

The Super Bowl is over, the NBA All-Star Game has passed, and the Winter Olympics are in their final week. However, there is still plenty to look forward to this month on NBC, and of course I’m talking about the return of The Voice. The “Battle of Champions” hits the 2026 TV schedule on February 23, and while the singing competition’s kickoff is always worthy of celebration, I am especially pumped for Season 29, because I just found out the show has finally made a change that I’ve been wanting for years.

Three of The Voice’s most prestigious coaches — Kelly Clarkson, Adam Levine and John Legend — will face off this season, and they recently sat down to discuss the harrowing competition to come. Much to my delight, the American Idol alum uttered five words that I have been waiting to hear:

The Blocks are gone!

In previous seasons, a coach had one Block to use during the Blind Auditions that would keep another coach from working with an artist — even if that coach hit their button and even if that was the mentor the contestant wanted to choose. It’s supposed to stir up drama between the coaches, but it ends up being a punishment for the artists, and I’ve been on my soapbox for five years asking them to get rid of the Blocks.

The topic came up when John Legend, Adam Levine and Kelly Clarkson were talking about the all-stars who will be returning for a little side competition on The Voice Season 29, to be judged by Levine’s fellow OG coach Ceelo Green. Those artists are:

• Javier Colon (Team Adam, Season 1 winner)
• Jordan Smith (Team Adam, Season 9 winner)
• Maelyn Jarmon (Team Legend, Season 16 winner)
• Jake Hoot (Team Kelly, Season 17 winner)
• Girl Named Tom (Team Kelly, Season 21 winner, the only group so far to win the show)
• Renzo (Team Legend, Season 27 third-place)

Back in Season 27, John Legend blocked Adam Levine from working with Renzo, and there’s simply no way to know how that affected the artist’s journey on the show.

That's the problem with the Blocks. The singers have to go through so much to even get the opportunity to sing in front of the four coaches (or three, in the upcoming iteration), so if they think a certain coach has the most to offer them or can share some expertise in the artist’s genre to potentially give them a leg up once the show is over, The Voice should not include game mechanics to hinder that.

Sure, sometimes it works out, like in Season 20, when Nick Jonas blocked John Legend from Cam Anthony. There’s no way the R&B artist would have chosen to go with Blake Shelton if Legend had been an option, but the country music star promised to have Anthony’s back, and they won the whole season together.

That, however, is the exception, not the rule, so I’m glad for Season 29 the artists will be able to choose any coach who hits their button, with no fear of being blocked from them.

I can’t wait to see what other twists and turns Carson Daly has in store for us, and thankfully we don’t have to wait long to find out. The Voice Season 29 premieres at 9 p.m. ET Monday, February 23 on NBC and streaming the next day with a Peacock subscription.

Chrissy Teigen and John Legend are arguably one of Hollywood's most popular couples, and after twelve years of marriage and four children, they're still going strong. The model and TV personality was asked what the secret to their marriage was, and it seems it's to keep things classy, not gassy.

Teigen told E! News that she does not fart in front of her husband, even though they're a decade-plus into their union. Personally, I think that's wild, but the way she talked about it, she believes it's important that she doesn't:

This wouldn't be the first time I've heard someone make a claim like Chrissy Teigen, and it wouldn't be the first time I've been skeptical of it, either. She's lived in close proximity to John Legend for a very long time, and they've been through a lot of highs and lows together. To think she's remained constantly vigilant and hasn't let a toot out in front of him is hard to imagine.

This is especially true when I also read that she has a habit of waking up in the middle of the night and eating ribs. I also love to eat ribs, but it's a rare occurrence that I don't find myself bloated and in need of a bathroom break after. I can't even imagine how wild it'd be to devour some in the middle of the night, and then go back to bed with my stomach gurgling.

I do get the sentiment that Chrissy Teigen is going for, and her wish to keep the "sexy" alive for husband John Legend. In a world where Demi Moore is trying to spread the word about normalizing farting, it was only a matter of time before another celebrity emerged with the take that someone can't fart in front of the person they're closest to.

Not to say there's anything wrong with that, because there are other people who are all too comfortable to let one rip even at the expense of others. Chris Pratt, for example, farted so hard while filming The Electric State that it ruined a scene. That's the kind of fart that impacts multiple people's jobs and livelihoods, and maybe even delays them getting home to their families.

Does Chrissy Teigen's abstinence from flatulence keep her marriage to John Legend strong? I guess it's a trade-off for getting to joke about how he looks like Arthur. I'd also say it's easy to stay married when you're taking lavish vacations to sunny beaches during the winter, like the couple recently did ahead of The Voice's return.

History was made on The Voice last month, when Aiden Ross was crowned the 28th champion to make Niall Horan the show’s only undefeated coach. However, what comes next may be even more monumental, as John Legend, Kelly Clarkson and Adam Levine face off in what has been dubbed The Voice: Battle of Champions. The competition is about to heat up, and I think Legend has the right idea for where to spend the lead-up to the premiere — in paradise with his family.

The Voice Season 29 is going to be epic, featuring only three coaches for the first time in the show’s history — all with nine or more seasons under their belts. With a month to go before the premiere hits the 2026 TV schedule, I can’t imagine a better way to prep than this:

This beach vacation seems to be doing John Legend and Chrissy Teigen good, because I didn’t think it was possible to look this relaxed and put-together with four little ones running around. The adorable family consists of Luna, 9, Miles, 7, Esti, who will be 3 this month, and Wren, 2.

There wasn’t a cloud in the sky when the EGOT winner gathered his two oldest kiddos for a boat ride. The sun shone down on perfect blue water, with mountains in the background as Miles and Luna were pictured snuggling up to their dad. In another pic, John Legend looks like quite the proud pop, posing for a selfie with his older daughter.

Miles and Luna also got to go horseback riding, as their little brother and sister got their fill of the sandy beach.

This trip comes after the family of six spent Christmas in New York, with John Legend writing on Instagram how special it was to show his and Chrissy Teigen’s children the city where they spent much of their early relationship, and they even got a snow day.

The beach is a great way to follow up snowy New York, and it’s also a fantastic reset before the “All of Me” singer heads back to The Voice for his 11th season. John Legend has worked with Kelly Clarkson several times before, with Season 29 being her 10th, but this will only be the third meeting between Legend and Adam Levine, who returns for his 18th run.

In fact, John Legend’s premiere on The Voice was in Season 16 — the Maroon 5 frontman’s last before a 10-season hiatus, which apparently sparked rumors that Legend was responsible for Adam Levine’s exit. Season 29 should be loads of fun, because this trio of The Voice coaches are all very friendly but also extremely competitive.

I’m also excited to see what all the Battle of Champions has in store. The Voice host Carson Daly has promised new twists and “competitive elements” that we’ve never seen before, including a side competition between former fan-favorite contestants hosted by CeeLo Green.

Hopefully John Legend’s vacation in paradise puts him in the right mindset to win, because it all kicks off at 9 p.m. ET Monday, February 23, on NBC and streaming the next day with a Peacock subscription.

I’m not sure a casual fan of The Voice could ever understand the jolt of adrenaline that pumped through my veins upon reading about the huge revamp that’s coming to Season 29 next spring. I have dreamed of writing these words: Kelly Clarkson is back! With Adam Levine, no less! Lots of changes are planned for the season being dubbed The Voice: Battle of Champions, so please allow me to break them all down, including the one that has me confused.

The Voice Season 28 is already in production, with Michael Bublé defending his title against Niall Horan, Snoop Dogg and Reba McEntire, and that is who we’ll see on the 2025 TV premiere calendar this fall. With the new filming schedule, however, the Spring 2026 shows are being taped simultaneously, which means Kelly Clarkson, Adam Levine and John Legend are also likely already at work. Yes, only three coaches will lead Season 29, which I’ll discuss more further down. But first, let’s talk changes.

The Voice Is Shaking Up Its Format For Season 29

The Voice’s 29th season will air next year during NBC’s “Legendary February,” when NBC Sports will present the trifecta of Super Bowl LX, the Milan Cortina Olympic Winter Games, and the NBA All-Star Game. Playing to the theme, The Voice: Battle of Champions will reportedly infuse its singing competition with fast-paced, competitive elements.

I’m not sure exactly what that means, but if it involves Kelly Clarkson going against Adam Levine and John Legend for some kind of advantage, let’s just say I feel sorry for the guys (stream Clarkson’s episode of Barmageddon with a Peacock subscription for proof of her competitive nature).

NBC also revealed that each team will consist of just 10 artists, meaning only 30 will advance to Battle Round — a huge difference from the 48 of Season 27 and a whopping 56 in Season 26. But those aren’t the only game alterations we can expect.

New Rules Will Be Introduced For The Voice: Battle Of Champions

We all know the importance of a Four-Chair Turn, so how is the show addressing that with just three coaches for Season 29? With the “Triple Turn Competition” of course! The Voice is giving an advantage to the coach who can win over the most artists who get all three coaches to turn their chairs. The winner will earn a “Super Steal” for Battles, which can be used one time to trump other coaches’ Steal attempts.

As “King of the Four-Chair Turn,” I know Legend will be vying for this prize, but Levine actually bested him in this category in Season 27, so it’s anybody’s game. (Don’t ever count out Clarkson.)

Once we reach the Knockouts, we’ll get a huge new segment — a competition-within-the-competition that The Voice is calling its “In-Season All-Star Competition.” Each coach will bring back two fan favorites from previous seasons to go head-to-head in a special episode judged by OG coach CeeLo Green. The coach with the most wins earns a guaranteed second finalist in the finale.

Is The Voice Doing Away With America’s Vote?

It also sounds like Season 29 will switch up how it handles voting in the Semifinals and Finals. Past contestants and superfans will be part of the in-studio audience, and vote on their favorite singers in real time (I’ll be eagerly awaiting my invitation).

I agree that’s pretty cool, but does it mean America will no longer get a say, even in the final rounds? I definitely don’t love that implication, but that’s not the issue that has me the most confused.

I Don’t Understand Why There Are Only Three Coaches Instead Of Four

I’m all for mixing things up and trying something new, especially 29 seasons in, but I’m really having trouble getting past the fact that only three music superstars will sit in the Big Red Chairs this time around. That doesn’t speak to the Battle of Champions theme the way other changes do.

In its announcement, NBC proclaimed this panel as the first in The Voice’s history composed entirely of winning coaches. That is both impressive and true, but it doesn’t explain taking away one of the spots.

While Levine, Clarkson and Legend are unquestionably amongst the most iconic and long-standing mentors, they’re far from the only winners. If they wanted other winning coaches, they’d need to look no further than Season 28, which will feature two as-yet undefeated coaches in Niall Horan and Michael Bublé, who each won their first two consecutive attempts.

That’s more than Legend, whose lone win came during his debut in Season 16. Clearly these aren’t the three winningest coaches, because you couldn’t claim that without getting Blake Shelton back (and that’s likely never happening). The cowboy’s nine victories are more than double Clarkson’s second-place total of four.

Did The New Elements Necessitate The Big Coaching Change?

The only logical reason I can think of is that to make time for the previous seasons’ fan favorites to return and whatever “competitive elements” are being added for NBC’s “Legendary February,” there had to be a major reduction in the number of contestants, and it made more sense to have three 10-person teams than four 7.5-person teams (that’s good math, there).

This isn’t the first time I’ve been confused by new elements that The Voice has tried. I was iffy about the Coach Replay button when it was introduced in Season 26 — it goes against the whole premise of the show! — but I actually ended up enjoying the coaches being able to change their minds about not hitting their button.

Despite a little bit of uncertainty about what Battle of Champions holds, I’m overwhelmingly excited about Season 29. I was honestly afraid Kelly Clarkson might never return to The Voice, and given Levine’s comments about it not being the same without Shelton, I thought he might be gone for good as well.

I’m super excited to see Legend, Clarkson and Levine lead the first three-coach season of The Voice, but first things first — Season 28 will air on NBC this fall with episodes streaming the next day on Peacock. Keep an eye out for a premiere date.

This will be the cowboy’s first in-person appearance on the show since the Season 23 finale, and I am craving some good Adam Levine bromance action. Welcome To The Voice Season 27 Finale Part 2!

Last night’s performance finale was packed with music, as each of the artists sang twice — one ballad and one up-tempo song. If you want my take on each performance, including my pick for who should win it all, relive that fun here:

Just a reminder as we get started, defending champion Michael Bublé was the only coach to have two artists in the finale. Tonight’s winner will be one of the following (listed from left to right in the photo below):

Each contestant will take the stage one last time tonight to perform a duet with their coach, but regardless of what happens from here on out, the results of Season 27 are in and sealed.

The Finalists Are In The Building!

Carson Daly checked in with the Top 5 ahead of the finale, so we know they're ready to go! Jaelen Johnston said he's most excited for tonight's performances, and apparently that will include a group number with the semifinalists!

Six of the artists who didn't make it to last night's episode were shown looking pretty spiffy, I must say, in black and white outfits for their upcoming group number.

BLAKE IS BACK! (And He Is Not Interested In 'Swingin')

Blake Shelton is officially back at The Voice! This is not a drill. Carson Daly caught up with the cowboy backstage, where he talked about the John Anderson song on Shelton's new album. The host asked if Shelton considered covering Anderson's hit "Swingin'," to which Shelton replied:

• I didn't think about doing "Swingin'." No. No.

That line of questioning isn't going to earn Carson Daly any points with Gwen Stefani.

Blake Shelton also confirmed he has already run into Adam Levine, and said the two have actually kept in close contact over the years since Levine was "fired." Ah, these guys.

Place your bets!

All season long we've seen Bryan Olesen, Season 25's third-place finisher, supporting his daughter Jadyn Cree, and I honestly can't imagine how proud he must be.

That said, what's the over/under on how many tearful dad moments we're going to see tonight? I think I'll be good for three before I start thinking about getting my own kids into singing competitions. And believe me, nobody wants that.

Bryce Leatherwood Hopes Tonight's Finalists Can 'Soak It In.'

Season 22 winner Bryce Leatherwood, who will perform tonight, offered some advice for the artists who are in the same position he was in just a few years ago, saying:

• Enjoy the moment. The Voice is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for so many people. Soak it in and enjoy it, and no matter what, you made it to the top.

That's a great point and great advice, but is it realistic? If it were me looking at a potential $100,000, I'd probably be shaking in a corner somewhere.

The Voice Finale Has Begun, And The Coaches Are Looking Good!

John Legend, Michael Bublé, Kelsea Ballerini and Adam Levine are officially seated for the results show, and they appear to have color-coordinated again. Tonight's color scheme is warmer than last night's black/gray, except for Levine, who went with a classic black suit. I guess that's as warm as he gets?

Foreigner’s Lead Singer Passes The Torch.

Kicking off a night of live performances, Foreigner took the stage for a medley of their hits. In an unexpected move, the lead singer announced he was retiring this year and welcomed his replacement Luis Maldonado to the stage to finish the set. Wow, what a way to pass the torch!

IT'S KELLLLLLLY!!!!

We certainly didn't have to wait too long for Kelly Clarkson to make her return. She is looking absolutely fantastic in a sparkling black pantsuit, and she sounds even better singing "Where Have You Been"!

It's like she never left. I wish she hadn't.

Please Tell Me That's Not All We Get Of Kelly Clarkson.

I guess it's typical that the finale performers don't stick around after they're done singing, but is it too much to ask to have Kelly Clarkson and Carson Daly catch up for a second? Please tell me that's not the only time we'll see her tonight!

John Legend Joins RENZO For Some Harry Styles.

In the first coach duet, RENZO took the stage with EGOT winner John Legend, and they sang a pretty great version of "As It Was" by Harry Styles. Carson Daly thinks the show is off to an awesome start, and I have no arguments after that performance.

The big question: Would upcoming Season 28 coach Niall Horan approve of the cover of his former bandmate?

Who's Here For Some Classic Country Around The Campfire? Me. It's Me.

We've got our second finalist/coach duet, as Kelsea Ballerini and Jaelen Johnston sat around a campfire to sing "Whiskey Lullaby" by Brad Paisley and Alison Krauss. I thought their voices blended so well, and I wouldn't be mad if they collaborated on a song together after this is all over. Wow!

OK, We're Keeping It Country With Bryce Leatherwood.

After Jaelen Johnston and Kelsea Ballerini twanged harder than should be allowed by law, The Voice finale kept the country spirit going with Bryce Leatherwood's homecoming performance.

Bryce Leatherwood, who won Season 22 (making him Blake Shelton's final champion) sang his single "God Made." Too bad we didn't get to see Leatherwood's reunion with his coach!

So That's What Chance The Rapper Sounds Like!

I have a pretty eclectic taste in music, but I have to say, I think of any coach who's ever been on The Voice, I'm probably least familiar with Chance the Rapper's work. He took the stage to sing his song "Space & Time," and I found it super pleasant! Consider this a note to myself to dig deeper into his library.

Michael Bublé And Adam David Take A Load Off

I thought Adam David might make his Michael Bublé go hard blues for their duet, but alas they tackled "The Weight," which still fit David's voice perfectly. I approve.

Joe Jonas Is An Open Book. Or At Least He's Singing In One.

Nick Jonas may have been a coach on The Voice, but we got his brother Joe for the finale. Joe Jonas sang "Heart By Heart," and while some fans on social media seemed quite pleased, others questioned his decision to perform in an open book. Come on, guys, it's METAPHOR!

Adam Levine's Guitar Gently Weeps.

I wouldn't be surprised if I found out that Adam Levine's contract to return to The Voice included a clause that said he must be allowed to sing a Beatles song. That's not a complaint, just saying it's on-brand.

So the coach joined forces with Lucia Flores-Wiseman for "While My Guitar Gently Weeps." Her unique tone on that classic from The Beatles was something special.

Karate-Inspired Choreography For The Win!

The top 5 artists from Season 27 plus some other favorites from the season combined for a group number to Bastille's "Pompeii" to promote Karate Kid: Legends. The song was good, but I couldn't stop looking at the dancers around them.

They were flipping, kicking and punching in formation! I never thought about how well karate and breakdancing blended together. Do you think there's anything like that in Karate Kid: Legends?

Will Blake Ever Come Back To The Voice? Adam Has A Plan.

This is what we came for, right? We just got 90 seconds of Adam Levine and Blake Shelton doing nothing but bickering over Blake's chair and Adam's hair and whatever else.

Then Carson Daly was doing the Lord's work, asking:

• Carson: Do you think he'll ever come back to the show? What about you and Blake on this show again, will that ever happen?
• Adam: I think we should do it. I'm gonna take him out and get him drunk, see what happens.
• Carson: Have him sign something.

Look, I know it's unlikely that Blake will ever come back, and honestly it's cruel for Carson to tease us like this. But, man, they're not letting that door close, are they? Is it so bad to dream?

Michael Bublé And Jadyn Cree Go Full Sonny And Cher

Jadyn Cree leaned into her old soul again for a hit from decades past to sing with her coach. She was the Cher to Michael Bublé's Sonny for a rendition of "I Got You Babe."

Blake Shelton's Taking Us To Texas.

With under a half-hour to go before the Season 27 winner is announced, Blake Shelton has hit the stage to sing his latest single "Texas." What can I say? This song slaps.

RESULTS TIME!

Carson Daly has revealed that Jadyn Cree came in fifth place and Lucia Flores-Wiseman is the fourth-place finisher.

We're down to three, and we don't have long to wait ... but first a commercial break!

THE WINNER OF THE VOICE IS ...

ADAM DAVID!

Michael Bublé has officially gone 2-for-2, winning Season 27 with Adam David, the artist who was nearly eliminated in the Semifinals before getting the Instant Save from America.

Jaelen Johnston forgetting the lyrics in last night's performance didn't seem to deter many voters, as he came in second, and RENZO placed third.

Some Final Thoughts On The Voice Season 27 Finale:

Before we go, just a few more musings from the top of my head:

• Right after Carson Daly announced RENZO in third place, did anyone else see Adam David lean over to Jaelen Johnston and say, "What the fuck?" I mean, I'm no professional lip-reader, but ...
• I thought RENZO was going to win (obviously, that's what I said in last night's live blog, if you were so kind as to tag along). Adam David was absolutely deserving, but I would have to imagine John Legend is getting sick of losing with such high-caliber artists.
• A second-straight win from Michael Bublé sets up an interesting contest for Season 28. He and Niall Horan have coached two seasons apiece and they've each won them both. Who will win the battle of the undefeateds?
• I NEED MORE KELLY CLARKSON!

The judges seem to have coordinated their outfits for tonight's finale, and they're all looking nice in grays and blacks. The embellishments on John Legend's jacket, though, keep the theme from being too funeral-y. Very dapper!

RENZO Sets The Tone With 'Fly Away'

John Legend's team member may have said he wanted to get away, as he rocked out to the Lenny Kravitz classic "Fly Away," but the crowd would prefer he stay. A great start to the night!

His coach agreed, saying it was "flawless from beginning to end."

Lucia Flores-Wiseman Wishes You Were Here

Team Adam's Lucia Flores-Wiseman kicks off the ballads for the evening with a raspy cover of "Wish You Were Here." It was quite emotional, and while the Seattle singer might not do all the runs that are customary for singing competitions, I love that she's made it this far by staying true to her style.

Don't Sing About Losing, Jadyn!

I love Jadyn Cree's story, making it to the finals just two seasons after her dad Bryan Olesen placed third. The 23-year-old invoked Selena Gomez with "Lose You to Love Me" and brought her coach Michael Bublé to tears.

Jadyn's voice has always sounded a bit meek for me for a singing competition. I think she could be a very successful artist outside of the show, it's all a bit too sweet and timid for me here.

Jaelen Johnston Forgets The Words!

OH NOOOOO!! Kelsea Ballerini's Jaelen Johnston blanked on the lyrics toward the beginning of Dierks Bentley's "What Was I Thinking?" Thankfully, he recovered and turned in a performance that got better as it went along.

Gosh I feel terrible for him, but his coach was right about his recovery being the most impressive part.

Adam David Told Me I'm Beautiful

I have been loving the bluesy numbers from Adam David this season, and he continued to show his range by singing "You Are So Beautiful." It's a slow and repetitive song, but he kept me from zoning out by hitting some nice high notes.

John Legend loved the broken notes in the artist's voice, and Michael Bublé implored fans to vote for this blue-collar dude.

I'm Haunted By Lucia Flores-Wiseman's 'Wildflower'

Sometimes it's hard for me to determine between the up-tempo songs and the ballads, and while I'm not sure in other circumstances I'd call Billie Eilish's "Wildflower" up-tempo, I have no issues with what Lucia Flores-Wiseman just did.

Her song was haunting, with a sick voice crackle. I get Amy Winehouse vibes from her, but she's totally unique.

Adam David Takes Us To Heaven And Hell

Another up-tempo number that I would have let pass as a ballad, Adam David finished his duties for night with a super soulful rendition of "Hard Fought Hallelujah." Carson Daly said it looked like Heaven and Hell, with a choir providing backing vocals in front of fiery pyrotechnics.

For my money (and to be clear, I'm neither getting nor giving any money here), if you want to win The Voice, you gotta bring the fire.

Jadyn Cree Is Stuck In The '80s

I have a feeling Bryan Olesen has something to do with Jadyn Cree's love for '80s music. After previously singing "99 Red Balloons" and "I Think We're Alone Now," she chose "Come On Eileen" for her up-tempo song. It was cute and energetic, but for me, it wasn't a finale-clincher.

RENZO Had Me Crying Before He Even Sang

Y'all, I don't normally get too emotional over the dedications and tributes to the contestants' families, but seeing that tear run down RENZO's daughter's face when she said she wanted to be on The Voice just like him just about did me in!

As for the performance, his version of "Lover, You Should've Come Over" was what I was waiting for from tonight's ballads. It was passionate, it was guttural, there were impressive runs. John Legend called it "stunning," and I agree.

Jaelen Johnston Gets His Redemption

Talk about redemption! Jaelen Johnston proved why he was the last country artist standing by taking on Chris Stapleton's "Cold" for his ballad. That's no easy feat, and I believed every word he sang. Who hurt this man?

Kelsea Ballerini also said she didn't realize how good he was until she heard him sing that. Nice way to close out the show! (Could have used some fire, though. When in doubt, add fire.)

So, Who Should Win The Voice Season 27?

The performances are over, and it's all in America's hands now! So after hearing the 10 offerings from this season's finalists, who would I personally give my singular vote to? For me, it's John Legend's team member RENZO.

I feel like RENZO hasn't missed a step all season. From Aerosmith's "Dream On" to Billie Eilish's "Happier Than Ever," he showed such range, and the emotion behind the words was always there. The finale just proved all that.

We don't have to wait long to see what happens! Voting is open until 7 a.m. ET, and fans can submit one vote per email address on The Voice website or the show's official app.

It was a pleasure to have you all along on this ride for the past couple of hours. I will be back tomorrow night to give my take on a night of exciting guest performances and the crowning of The Voice Season 27 winner.

The Voice Season 27 finals are set, with five artists advancing to next week’s live finale on the 2025 TV schedule to compete for the $100,000 prize and a record deal. Getting there wasn’t easy, though, as Carson Daly revealed the results of America’s vote to cut the remaining contestants from 12 to just 5. In the end, reigning champ Michael Bublé’s team took top billing, and I have to admit I agree with John Legend’s somewhat bitter take on it all.

Michael Bublé Leads The Pack With Two Singers In The Finale

Carson Daly admitted it was a tough night for all involved as he announced the top four vote-getters from the previous night’s performances. Each coach was represented, as the finalists were revealed to be:

• RENZO (Team Legend)
• Lucia Flores-Wiseman (Team Adam)
• Jadyn Cree (Team Bublé)
• Jaelen Johnston (Team Kelsea)

The fifth- through eighth-place finishers then each performed for an Instant Save, while the bottom four were immediately eliminated. When all the votes were tallied, Michael Bublé’s Adam David claimed the fifth and final spot in next week’s live finale.

With two artists to everyone else's single singer, the Canadian crooner has a pretty huge advantage, and it puts him in a good spot to build on his Season 26 success by earning wins in both of his first two seasons as a coach on The Voice. However, I actually agree with John Legend, who voiced his displeasure in the voting results.

John Legend Felt Bryson Battle Should Have Advanced To The Finale

It was an emotional night for all of the coaches as they said goodbye to at least one member of their teams. But as Adam Levine, Kelsea Ballerini and Michael Bublé validated their fallen team members’ talents and bright futures, John Legend struggled with his words to Bryson Battle because he had fully expected him to advance as part of the top four. Legend said:

Now, I’m sure if you asked any of the coaches up there, they’d make a good case for why their entire team should advance, and on live TV, John Legend didn’t really have time to give us anything but his honest reaction (at least he didn’t pull an Adam Levine and say he hates America). But I also think Legend is spot-on here.

All season, I saw Bryson Battle as a front-runner. He was a Four-Chair Turn in the auditions, and he won every battle that followed, never getting in a position to need to be saved or stolen.

It wasn’t just the coaches, either. Fans on social media seemed to love him, and after he blew the roof off the Semifinals with a performance of “Without You,” I wrote, “Definite finale,” in my notes. Circled and underlined twice, so you know I meant business! It’s easy to see why John Legend was so frustrated.

Here’s the thing, though: I think Adam David deserved that Instant Save. He made my jaw drop with his cover of Teddy Swims’ “Lose Control,” hitting some incredible and unexpected high notes. How in the world were we the audience supposed to choose between that and Bryson Battle’s gorgeous rendition of Bruno Mars’ “Talking to the Moon”? If Battle had been part of the Top 4, we wouldn't have had to.

If this Semifinals brouhaha proves anything, though, it’s the caliber of The Voice Season 27’s talent, and the five finalists are quite an eclectic group of singers from different genres. I think we’re in for a treat at the finale, so tune in at 8 p.m. ET Monday, May 19, on NBC and streaming the next day on Peacock.

Things are getting serious on The Voice’s 27th season, as we’ve reached the Knockout portion of the 2025 TV schedule. Coaches again were asked to pit two members of their teams against each other, with just one moving on to the Playoffs. With no Saves in this round, the decisions were nearly impossible, and Kelsea Ballerini found a way to prove her commitment to an eliminated team member with a move that may have started a trend.

Kelsea Ballerini paired one of her favorite team members, Dan Kiernan, with Tinika Wyatt, the singer she stole from Adam Levine’s team in the Battles, for her first Knockout. Despite her connection with Kiernan, Ballerini said she couldn’t play favorites and had to honor Wyatt’s flawless rendition of The Emotions’ “The Best of My Love.” However, as Kiernan left the stage, his coach gave him something possibly even more valuable, saying:

That’s a really sweet way to show how committed Kelsea Ballerini is to her team members’ success, regardless of where they finish in the singing competition. You can see the performance that inspired The Voice coach to give out her digits below:

But Kelsea Ballerini wasn't the only one to show a good-faith gesture. In the Knockout that followed, Michael Bublé did the same thing with his artist! Simone Marijic faced off against Barry Jean Fontenot, and the Canadian crooner couldn’t pass on Fontenot’s cover of his own hit, “Haven’t Met You Yet.”

After congratulating the Team Michael winner, Bublé could be seen scribbling on a piece of paper, prompting Kelsea Ballerini to ask if he was stealing her bit. He nodded and approached Simone Marijic, saying:

He went on to say that while his journey on The Voice would continue with Barry Jean Fontenot, “outside of the show, I’ll continue a journey with Simone.” You can see Simone Marijic’s cover of “She Used to Be Mine” by Sara Bareilles below:

I love that this happened not once but twice on the first night of Knockouts, and it would be so cool to see this become a more regular thing. It’s certainly in the spirit of something Blake Shelton would do, as he’s gone to some incredible lengths to help former contestants outside of The Voice.

I’m not sure how realistic it is, though. The coaches are certainly under no obligation to continue mentoring these up-and-comers once they’re off the show, and I don’t fault Adam Levine or John Legend for not following suit with their own numbers. It’s just a really cool thing that proves how seriously they take their roles on the show.

We’ll have to see if this was just a one-time occurrence, or if it becomes a more common action when eliminating team members. I’ll be keeping an eye out when the Knockouts continue at 8 p.m. ET next Monday, April 7, on NBC and streaming the next day on Peacock.

Chrissy Teigen is, obviously, famous for many things and has been for numerous years. The model/host/entrepreneur has, for one thing, developed a magnificent online presence which seems to perfectly match the open and hilariously unfiltered person she is in regular life. After the happy mom of four told us previously that she should “be cremated with only a shirt on,” now she’s opened up about eating some wild midnight snacks like ribs in bed, but it sounds like John Legend has an on-brand way to deal with it.

What Did Chrissy Teigen Say About Eating Ribs In Bed At Night?

Listen, I’m well aware that the world and the lives of everyone in it are often confusing and scary and all of us need ways to calm ourselves down, cheer ourselves up or just pretend that bad things aren’t happening. I wouldn’t be surprised, actually, if a lot of fans use Chrissy Teigen’s frequently funny (and sometimes mistakenly twin-filled) social media as a way to tap out in a healthy way when the world is too much to bear. However, a recent appearance on Today saw the Cravings author reveal that some of her eating habits are a little bit out there. As she said:

Just the idea of not only eating in bed (gross), but going to sleep and then waking up to eat in bed have already thrown me off. I don’t think there’s a single person who’s ever been alive who could successfully eat in bed without getting crumbs or weird splotches of assorted condiments somewhere they absolutely shouldn’t. On top of that, waking up and realizing you’re so hungry you can’t go back to sleep is very different from specifically thinking you should “wake up to eat,” particularly in the middle of the night.

But, wait! The woman who once told everyone about how she’d have to spend time “icing the hooha tonight” after a ziplining vacay with her family went way further in talking about her late night eating, and name-checked some completely ridiculous foods to enjoy at such an odd time. When asked what she eats in bed, Teigen responded:

A RACK OF RIBS?!?! Girl, come on now…This is wild on another level. When I want a snack late at night (because I’ve been awake for a long time, not because I’ve gone to sleep and then set a food alarm for the wee hours of the morn) I eat some cereal, or have an apple or something simple. If going back to sleep soon is your goal, how can one do that after a messy ass rack of ribs or a po’boy? Isn’t she too full? What about being covered in drippings of one sort or another?

Also, who is able to eat full-on meals like that in the middle of the night, lay right back down and not gain 80 million pounds over the course of, say, a month? How does this lady who once pointed out her boob lift scars do it?! Understandably, she was asked about how her The Voice coach and EGOT-winning hubby, John Legend, acts with all this basically insane overnight eating going on in his very own bed. She answered:

It’s great and all that Legend can generally sleep through Teigen’s “snacker” ways, but I’m more impressed by him being totally chill with her chowing down on ribs next to him in bed. He has always seemed a bit more “go with the flow” than his wife, and they do appear to have a solid and supportive relationship, so him being A-OK with this wild behavior does feel on brand for the Grammy winner. I suppose this proves that there really is a lid for every po'boy-in-bed-eating pot.

The Battle rounds are underway on Season 27 of The Voice, and I can’t imagine how hard it is for the coaches to start pitting members of their teams against each other. I’ve actually always wondered how much the coaches play favorites during this round by choosing which of their singers they’ll send through before seeing the two perform on stage. That exact topic came up on the March 17 episode of the 2025 TV schedule, and I was fascinated to hear Adam Levine, Michael Bublé and the others talk strategy.

The topic of Battle strategy came up after Michael Bublé’s artists Kaiya Hamilton and Barry Jean Fontenot faced off with the song “Cry to Me.” Hamilton took celebrity mentor Cynthia Erivo’s words to heart and sang the hell out of the song in a way that Bublé was not expecting. He ended up giving her the win but using his Save to also keep Fontenot on his team. Apparently that’s not how he’d planned for things to go, as The Voice coaches talked backstage:

• John Legend: Has anybody made some unexpected decisions today?
• Michael Bublé: I did. I was like, ‘Barry no matter what.’ But Kaiya was so good. I couldn’t not pick her.
• Adam Levine: It’s surprising. We said at the beginning we were all gonna be surprised. I think we all were.
• John: And you gotta let the performance move you, and don’t be stuck in what you thought you were gonna do.
• Adam: It’s a tough thing.

This literal peek behind the curtain is so fascinating to me. Michael Bublé admitted that he went into that Battle knowing Barry Jean Fontenot was advancing to the Knockouts. However, he allowed himself to be swayed by the strength of Kaiya Hamilton’s performance.

Adam Levine — in his 17th season and as one of few coaches to have won multiple times — suggested that kind of thing happens all the time, and while maybe they do know who’s likely to have an edge going into the duet, all of the coaches have been surprised.

I was really happy to hear John Legend emphasize that they make an effort to not let any preconceived favoritism overrule an unexpected performance, and I’m sure that’s reassuring for contestants to hear too. You can see the Battle that caused Michael Bublé to change his mind below:

While I’m happy to hear that the coaches are keeping an open mind during the Battles, I’m not upset to hear that they choose their early favorites. They are in a competition, after all (despite what Adam Levine may say). I’m also not surprised, as it’s definitely not unusual to hear the mentors say things like, “I thought I knew what I was going to do, but …” when trying to make their cuts.

In Michael Bublé’s case it worked out, because he was able to keep both of the artists he wanted, but when those Saves and Steals run out, that’s when things get really heartbreaking. That’s the point in the Battles we’re getting close to, so tune into NBC at 8 p.m. ET next Monday, March 24, and streaming the next day on Peacock as this round continues.

As soon as it was announced that Adam Levine was returning for The Voice’s 27th season on the 2025 TV schedule, it felt like John Legend would be a worthy adversary for the singer who appeared on each of the first 16 seasons before stepping away. That really has come to fruition as the Blind Auditions are set to wrap up, and the EGOT winner had an amusing comment about their shared time on the singing competition.

The current season (available to stream with a Peacock subscription) is not the first time Adam Levine and John Legend have worked together. They crossed paths briefly in 2019 and, during an interview on The Kelly Clarkson Show, Legend recalled a funny rumor about his and Levine’s time on the show, saying:

It’s funny to think that John Legend — who’s often pretty soft-spoken, especially in comparison to the other Voice coaches — would have had a hand in getting Adam Levine kicked off of The Voice, just because the Maroon 5 singer was exiting just as Legend made his debut.

Now, John Legend is in his 10th season on the show and, while fans are excited that Adam Levine is back, the “All of Me” singer may not love all of him. Legend has established a reputation as something of a Four-Chair King, who’s able to win over artists who got all four coaches to turn their chairs and are therefore able to choose from all four celebrity mentors.

However, Adam Levine possesses a legacy of winning, boasting three wins over 16 seasons to John Legend’s sole victory. That’s an attractive quality for the incoming Season 27 contestants, and of the seven Four-Chair Turns we’ve seen through the first four nights of Blind Auditions, Levine has gotten five of them, with Legend taking the other two (one of whom he had to block Adam from).

The singers’ history on The Voice actually goes back even further than Season 16, as John Legend served as an advisor for Team Adam in Season 12. They talked about their history on the show and going up against Kelsea Ballerini and Michael Bublé in the video below:

Adam Levine and John Legend’s friendly rivalry will likely never reach the peaks that the Maroon 5 frontman saw with Blake Shelton. However, it is a pretty strange coincidence that Levine’s previous final season was Legend’s first.

The teams are filling up on The Voice Season 27, as the fourth night of Blind Auditions aired on the 2025 TV schedule. We’ve seen some impressive artists, but I find it interesting that some of the best moments so far have come from the contestants’ children. First we saw a previous finalist return for his daughter’s audition, and on February 24 I witnessed the cutest moment I’ve ever seen when a young kiddo had Kelsea Ballerini vowing to change her name after an adorable mispronunciation.

Adam Levine may have what the other coaches don’t in multiple winning seasons, but Kelsea Ballerini has held her own in her first season as a full-time mentor. When country singer Robert Hunter took the stage to audition with the Cody Johnson song “‘Til You Can’t,” Ballerini quickly turned her chair and warned the others to let her have him. Michael Bublé didn’t listen, though, and Hunter brought out the big guns — his wife and daughter Mary Blake — to help him choose whose team to join.

Not that there was much to decide. The little girl’s face lit up when she saw Kelsea Ballerini, and when Robert Hunter asked Mary Blake who her favorite singer was, she adorably responded:

The audience and The Voice coaches alike didn’t know what to do with themselves. The crowd let out a delighted cheer as Michael Bublé jumped to his feet, smiling at Kelsea Ballerini. John Legend got up and walked over to the new coach, muttering, “Oh, Lord! Oh, Lord!”

It got even better for the country music star when the auditioning contestant asked his daughter what her favorite song was, and Mary Blake started singing, “If You Go Down (I’m Goin’ Down Too).” Kelsea Ballerini couldn’t take it any longer, as she started singing along with her and rushed the stage to hug the little girl.

Michael Bublé wasn’t too upset that he wasn’t able to pull the artist after witnessing what he said was the “No. 1 cutest moment,” and I would have to agree. Kelsea Ballerini was still high on her little adoring fan backstage, as she said:

I love that the family has this happy memory, and who knows how many cool things await Robert Hunter after he takes this journey on The Voice? You can watch his emotional audition below, with his daughter coming in at the 5 minute mark:

This awesome family moment follows a surprise in the Season 27 premiere, when John Legend’s finalist from Season 25, Bryan Olesen, returned to his old stomping grounds to watch 23-year-old Jadyn Cree try her hand at the singing competition. She also got to decide between Kelsea Ballerini and Michael Bublé, but unlike little Mary Blake, she chose the tutelage of the “Just Haven’t Met You Yet” singer.

We aren’t likely to get anything cuter than the contestant’s daughter getting Kelsea Ballerini’s name wrong, but I’m still here for any family fun and good singing that awaits. Tune in for the final night of Blind Auditions at 8 p.m. ET Monday, March 3, on NBC and streaming the next day on Peacock.

The Blind Auditions are rolling on Season 27 of The Voice, currently airing on the 2025 TV schedule, and fans are loving Adam Levine’s big return. It’s been six years since the Maroon 5 singer contributed to some of the singing competition’s wildest moments, but in a way, Adam Levine has been back longer than we may have realized. That’s because NBC has changed the way seasons of The Voice are filmed, and John Legend’s explanation is pretty fascinating.

John Legend visited his old friend and former coach of The Voice Kelly Clarkson on her talk show to talk about the new crop of singers who he, Adam Levine, Kelsea Ballerini and Michael Bublé are fighting over. When she asked if he missed the show when he took Season 26 off, Legend made a surprising revelation about the filming schedule, saying:

John Legend coached on Seasons 24 and 25, so even though he took 26 off, he said on The Kelly Clarkson Show that he (and Adam Levine) basically returned to set last summer at the same time as Reba McEntire, Snoop Dogg, Gwen Stefani and Michael Bublé. The Canadian crooner, meanwhile, is the only coach to appear on both seasons, so Bublé just stayed put while the other coaches traded out their chairs.

The EGOT winner didn’t specify if they filmed all of Season 26’s pre-recorded rounds before starting Season 27, or if they did the Blind Auditions for each season before moving on to the Battles for each season, etc., and that leaves me with so many questions.

For instance, 19-year-old Iris Herrera didn’t turn a chair in Season 26 but came back to audition for 27 and got to join Kelsea Ballerini’s team. Were her performances mere days apart from each other? Weeks? Was this schedule part of the reason Reba McEntire was able to tape The Voice and Happy’s Place at the same time, or was it part of what complicated that process?

Also, how grueling was that schedule for Michael Bublé, Carson Daly, the band and the rest of the crew? John Legend admitted it was “crazy for producers,” but I guess taking a bigger chunk of time to tape two seasons at once frees up some time over the rest of the year. I’d also imagine it’s pretty strange for the Season 27 contestants to just now get to watch the auditions that happened months ago. How long will have passed between when they auditioned and when the semifinalists return for live episodes?

Clearly I’m just looking for a “Making of The Voice” documentary, but I really do think this is all so interesting. Until I get that doc, I shall simply quiet my mind with the tunes of the current contestants, the gentle comedy of Michael Bublé and the excitement of Adam Levine bringing back something The Voice has been lacking since Blake Shelton and Kelly Clarkson left.

Fans have been loving Adam Levine’s return to The Voice since Season 27 premiered on the 2025 TV schedule, and as a fan from the very beginning, I’m right there with them. The Maroon 5 frontman has always brought some rock star swag that has, at times, led to some of The Voice’s more controversial moments, but these days he’s less about the rivalries and more about the group chat. However, the best thing about his comeback, in my opinion, is that he brings something the show has been missing since Blake Shelton left — a legacy of winning.

In Blake Shelton’s 23 seasons, he won the show nine times, and Kelly Clarkson has four victories. That’s 13 wins between just the two of them — half of the show's 26 completed seasons. The fact that the other 13 seasons are spread amongst 20 other coaches of The Voice means that there aren’t a lot of mentors out there winning multiple seasons. Thank goodness for the Season 27 contestants, Adam Levine is one of them.

The Voice Hasn’t Had A Coach With More Than One Win Since Season 23

With Blake Shelton and Kelly Clarkson both exiting The Voice after Season 23 — likely for good, too, with John Legend saying the cowboy has no plans to return and Clarkson revealing how much she struggled in her final seasons — no coach has had more than one win since filming wrapped in May 2023.

In fact, the only other coaches besides those two who can boast more than one victory are Niall Horan (Seasons 23 and 24) and Adam Levine (Seasons 1, 5 and 9). That is a huge deal for the current batch of contestants, and they seem to understand that.

On the first night of Blind Auditions, Darius J. had a choice between Adam Levine, Kelsea Ballerini and Michael Bublé. When host Carson Daly asked why he’d chosen to join Team Adam, Darius J. said:

It was so refreshing to hear one of the contestants say that, because no mentor has had a real edge over his compatriots in that way in a while. We’ve seen artists choose the coach who best suits their genre or who wanted the chance to work with Reba McEntire or Snoop Dogg, and while I certainly won’t blame them for that, I missed having artists choose a coach because they’ve seen them take their team to the finish line time and again.

Looking at the way teams are forming so far, I’d say Darius J. is far from the only artist coming in with hopes of getting the Maroon 5 singer to turn.

Adam Levine Is Winning The Majority Of Artists He’s Turned For

Those who have watched the first three episodes of Season 27 can tell that John Legend is a bit perturbed by Adam Levine threatening his position as King of the Four-Chair Turn. (Episodes are available to stream with a Peacock subscription if you do need to catch up.) When all four coaches turn their Big Red Chairs, the power goes back to the artist, who then gets to choose which team to join.

Of the six Four-Chair Turns through the February 17 episode, Adam Levine has closed the deal four times to John Legend’s two (and Levine was blocked from getting one of those). But Levine’s dominance goes further than that.

Not counting the two times Adam Levine has been blocked, he’s hit his button for 12 artists through three episodes, and he’s gotten eight of them. That’s a 67% success rate! Let’s look at that compared to the other Season 27 coaches (again, without counting blocks against their percentage):

• Adam Levine: 8 artists, 12 chair turns (67%)
• John Legend: 6 artists, 13 chair turns (46%)
• Kelsea Ballerini: 7 artists, 16 chair turns (44%)
• Michael Bublé: 6 artists, 21 chair turns (29%)

Adam Levine has the confidence and the history to get who he wants, and he proved it when he whipped out his resume to woo Four-Chair Turn Conor James on the February 17 episode. Following James’ rendition of “I Say a Little Prayer,” Levine told him:

OK so Adam Levine just called his shot. I’m excited to see if he really did see something in the singer that will get them to the end together. Oh yeah, and it might go without saying after that hard sell, but Conor James did choose the Maroon 5 rocker’s team.

Adam Levine might not have needed to put in such effort to win the artist, because Conor James said he’d planned to pick Team Adam if given the chance, but I absolutely think Levine should be reminding the auditioners of his success on the show every chance he gets.

I think The Voice Season 27 is off to a great start, and I absolutely love that Adam Levine has brought a winning legacy back to the NBC singing competition. Will he bring it home again and tie Kelly Clarkson for four wins overall? So far the momentum seems to be swinging in his direction.

Adam Levine may not think The Voice is a competition show anymore, but if it is, I’d say he’s winning it — just like he did in the past. New episodes of The Voice air at 8 p.m. ET Mondays on NBC and streaming the next day on Peacock.

A celeb who knows a thing about making a look work in public — from the sheer chain-mail dress trend to showing off her baby bump — Chrissy Teigen clearly puts a lot of effort into spiffing herself up, whether there are cameras around or not. But that’s only the goal for while she’s living and breathing, and you better believe she has #CoffinOutfitGoals for when she’s no longer part of the corporeal world.

While showing off her recent night on the town with hubby John Legend, with credit to the fashion designer brand Tony Ward Couture, Teigen hyped up the fact that it was a pants-free experience. And just how much does she enjoy going without bottoms? Oh, enough so that she wants to eschew them completely even when she’s no longer able to enjoy the freedom. As she put it in her Instagram post’s caption:

As someone who spent (probably…or definitely) way too many pre-teen years running around outside in my yard barefoot in a T-shirt and tighty-whities, I can 100% adhere buy into why pants-free fashion became a trend. (Or a full-on lifestyle choice, depending on who we’re talking about.) And to apologize for such comfort is just silly.

When it comes to how her remains are handled, I like how she goes straight from being buried pantsless to being cremated without a bra. Does she want to be buried with her boobs still supported? Does she… Okay, I guess there aren’t a whole lot of questions left unanswered with those requests. Maybe just “What kind of shirt?” I'd say a John Legend tour shirt FTW.

Understandably, Teigen sparked plenty of comments from fans with both her fancy look and her burial wishes, with lots of her followers sympathizing.

While she doesn't appear to have any 2025 TV show appearances lined up for the future, Chrissy Teigen did recently appear on Finding Your Roots with Henry Louis Gates Jr. to learn a bit more about her heritage. I don't recall the episode factoring in a discussion about what her ancestors were all buried in, or whether their ashes had underwire remains in them.

The Voice Season 27 officially started up on the 2025 TV schedule this week with the first round of blind auditions and an original coach back to start his own team. After it was announced over summer that Adam Levine would take a seat on one of those red chairs for the first time in over five years, fans have seen the first episode with the Maroon 5 singer back.

After watching the premiere and looking around at the reactions, I have one main takeaway.

Adam Levine Is Back On The Voice, And Fans Were So Happy To See Him

Adam Levine joined Michael Bublé, Kelsea Ballerini and John Legend on The Voice panel, and the internet was all over it. And of course, Levine’s The Voice bestie, Blake Shelton, was missed considering this marks the first time he’s been on a second without the country star, who has won more seasons than any other coach. Sure, the best duo on The Voice that ever was on the show was Adam and Blake. They had an infectious chemistry that really made the show so much fun to watch in the beginning. But I did find it fun that Kelsea Ballerini had a little buzzer that had some quotes of Blake Shelton bad-mouthing Adam Levine to pull out. When Levine recently talked about returning the show, of course he trolled Shelton, but I’m kind of excited to see Adam Levine have a season without Blake. Where will his competitive energy be directed to?

Given the comments, it sounds like fans were really happy to see Adam Levine back in the chair for The Voice. Funny enough, he actually has Blake Shelton’s old chair this season. Levine has said he “felt like it was time” for him to return to the show after leaving in 2019, and so many clearly agree.

A couple years ago, Adam Levine had a cheating scandal that brought him a lot of blowback, but he and his wife are still going strong, recently celebrating a decade as husband and wife in Mexico. So who are we to judge? The singer not only nabbed a few singers for his team, but one even did a cover of “Sunday Morning” that resulted in a four-chair turn. Oh, and he got picked by her to coach her. As one fan wrote:

There was some expected twists of a past singer going for it again and getting a strong reaction. There's lots to love about the new season already.

But, Here's What's Really Sticking With Me After The Premiere

But, as a longtime viewer of The Voice, I have to say, this is the tweet that stuck with me the most:

While I may not be as big of a Maroon 5 fan since starting the show back in 2011 – when The Voice began – I have to admit that it was emotional to see an original judge finally back in one of the chairs after so many shakeups over the years. It’s been four seasons since Blake Shelton left the show, and it’s really not been the same since. I’ve enjoyed seeing a lot of different singers as coaches over the years, but Adam Levine was in the original four that helped me first watch the show, and that matters.

A new season of The Voice is upon us, and no, you’re not still feeling the effects of that last visit to Snoop Dogg’s dressing room — that really was Adam Levine back on The Voice to kick off Season 27. Of course a lot has been made of the OG coach returning for the first time since Season 16, and he proved himself a worthy adversary for John Legend, king of the Four-Chair Turn. However, the Maroon 5 frontman was not the only Voice alum to make a comeback when the Blind Auditions kicked off, and one return included a twist I wasn’t expecting.

A No-Turn Artist From Last Season Came Back For Another Shot

Adam Levine’s first night back on The Voice was the scene of two other artists returning to the stage, though in different capacities. First, Iris Herrera, who failed to get a chair turn in Season 26 came back and sang a slowed-down twangy version of “You Are My Sunshine” that you can watch below:

The 19-year-old had better luck this time around, getting Kelsea Ballerini, John Legend and Michael Bublé to hit their buttons. Iris Herrera said she put a lot of work into her second audition attempt, but also her singing a different song in front of a new panel of coaches (Bublé is the only holdover from Season 26) made a huge difference.

In fact, the pre-recorded rounds of Seasons 26 and 27 filmed back-to-back, so I’m honestly curious how much time passed between her two attempts. Either way, congrats to Iris Herrera, a new member of the very first Team Kelsea.

Season 25 Finalist Bryan Olesen Was In The Building — But He Wasn't Performing...

Later on in the evening another familiar face made an appearance; however Bryan Olesen, the third-place finisher from Season 25, wasn’t back for himself. He was accompanying Jadyn Cree, his 23-year-old daughter, for her audition. That was a twist I wasn't expecting! While I remember Olesen being the oldest contestant on his season, I'd forgotten his daughter was also a singer.

Kelsea Ballerini and Michael Bublé heard something they liked in her version of Paramore’s “Still Into You”:

The Voice fans might remember Jadyn Cree, as she came out and sang a duet with her father when he auditioned a year ago, ultimately landing on Team Legend. (The father-daughter duo even got to sit in Dan & Shay’s double chair.)

Unfortunately Jadyn Cree couldn’t follow in her dad’s footsteps on John Legend’s team since he didn’t turn his chair, but I’d be willing to bet Legend will be looking for an opportunity to steal her from the Canadian crooner somewhere down the road.

The Voice is off to a fun start, and I can’t wait to start seeing more wild moments from Adam Levine now that the OG troublemaker is back. Tune into NBC at 8 p.m. ET Monday, February 10, to see what happens next.

The Voice, one of my favorite competition shows, is premiering on the 2025 TV schedule next week, and it’s bringing back an original coach. That’s right, Adam Levine is back in one of those massive swivel chairs, and while Blake Shelton won’t be back with him, of course he talked about his longtime adversary and great friend on the show.

Ahead of the NBC series coming back this Monday, Adam Levine was asked about how it feels to return to the show over five years after saying goodbye. Here’s how Blake’s name came up:

Did anyone else see this a mile away? It feels like you just can’t have Adam Levine without Blake Shelton. And while Season 27 will in fact prove that Adam Levine can coach without his beloved frenemy, he couldn’t help but poke fun at the country star once again. As he continued to People:

It’s a solid approach. Now that Adam Levine is on the show sans Blake, he has the mic, and Blake Shelton can’t defend himself or quip back. Of course, Adam and Blake’s jokes between one another have always been playful and built on their amazing chemistry, so honestly, it’s going to be weird at first to have the Maroon 5 singer without his biggest competition.

Adam Levine will be a coach alongside Kelsea Ballerini, Michael Bublé, and John Legend. It was announced over the summer that Levine would return for Season 27. The upcoming season is Ballerini’s first season as coach, Bublé’s second, and John Legend’s ninth season. (They even have a group chat together already!) Legend’s first season was actually Levine’s last before Season 27 – so the pair have been coaches at the same time before.

When Levine spoke further about his return to The Voice, he shared that it’s already “really great to be back” after he had a much needed break. Levine had been on the show for sixteen seasons over eight years when he left and he’s enjoyed spending more time with his family, going on tour, and making music.

Levine has said that he doesn’t see The Voice “as a competition anymore,” but rather an “opportunity for us to share our experiences with the people on the show,” so perhaps we won’t see him as competitive as he was on prior seasons.

The singer has won three seasons, which stacks pretty well next to Legend’s sole win in Season 16 and Bublé’s sole win last season, but not at all next to Blake Shelton being The Voice champion with nine wins over the years. When Levine was asked if he’ll have another adversary this season, he said this:

Levine also called his chemistry with Shelton “unplanned” and “spontaneous”. Of course there’s rumors that Levine’s return to the show could bring back Blake Shelton, but I’m just excited to see this specific dynamic play out. I know I can’t wait to watch on Mondays or stream the next day with my Peacock subscription.

As The Voice Season 26 prepares for its final weeks on the 2024 TV schedule, production has already begun on next season, which will see the triumphant return of OG coach Adam Levine. He and newcomer Kelsea Ballerini have their work cut out for them, as I’m actually obsessed with the coaches’ chemistry this season — even Reba McEntire called it her “favorite.” However, after seeing a peek at their group chat, the incoming coaches might just have this current foursome beat!

Kelsea Ballerini shared a number of images from her Thanksgiving festivities to Instagram Stories, and it looked like a wild time. In addition to plenty of cooking and singing in front of the Christmas tree (I love that she’s already got her tree up, by the way), the “Peter Pan” artist showed that she was in touch with her fellow The Voice coaches, sharing this screenshot:

First off, just the fact that the Season 27 coaches touched base with each other on Thanksgiving is lovely, and you can already tell these guys are going to bring some laughs as well as some edge. That’s no surprise regarding Adam Levine, who’s been involved in several of The Voice’s wildest moments, but here we’ve got Kelsea Ballerini flipping the bird at, well, her bird.

I can’t help but laugh at the Maroon 5 singer calling her turkey “wee,” although I’m kind of on his side, because why does that view of what I assume is the brining process make it look so tiny? Michael Bublé, meanwhile, disagreed on the size of her turkey (the other pics in her Stories show just how huge it actually was) but found the exchange amusing all the same.

Although John Legend appears to be part of the chat, he didn’t ring in quick enough to be included in Kelsea Ballerini’s screenshot, which is understandable considering he had four little ones running around his and Chrissy Teigen’s Thanksgiving.

Getting just a peek into how fun and friendly the Season 27 coaches are — with their season filming simultaneously with the currently airing Season 26 — makes me even more excited for Adam Levine’s return, but I hadn’t expected to like any group more than Reba McEntire, Snoop Dogg, Gwen Stefani and Michael Bublé.

Like Reba McEntire, I think this has been one of the best seasons of The Voice due to the coaches’ chemistry. For a while it seemed like the show might be trying to force rivalries between its mentors in the way that Blake Shelton, Adam Levine and Kelly Clarkson used to bicker. However, the feuds aren’t missed this season, and in fact, the show has benefited from the camaraderie.

Snoop Dogg cares so deeply about his team members that he’s calling them his nieces and nephews now. Gwen Stefani has come with wisdom this season on a level I’ve never noticed from her before, and Reba McEntire is riding high after scoring her first win last season.

Then there’s Michael Bublé, who is pulling double duty as the only coach to appear on both seasons. I wasn’t sure what to expect from him coming into Season 26, but it certainly wasn’t for his humor to be my favorite thing about it. So it definitely doesn’t hurt my anticipation to know we’ll be getting more silliness from him on the 2025 TV schedule, and now seeing a little of what we can expect from Kelsea Ballerini and Adam Levine, I think we’re in for a treat.

Ever since the arrest of Sean “Diddy” Combs last month, we have seen a constant stream of additional accusations against the rapper and those associated with him. While most celebrities who previously attended Diddy’s famous parties have remained quiet since the arrest, one very significant name has come forward to recount her own story, making it clear she believes Combs is only part of a larger problem.

Ty Stiklorius manages John Legend and founded the management company Friends at Work. In a new op-ed for the New York Times, she recounts an experience nearly three decades ago, before she was in the industry, where she was able to get on board a yacht where Diddy was hosting a New Year’s Eve party. She says at one point she found herself locked in a bedroom with an unknown man and had to talk her way out. She explained…

While Stiklorius had a dangerous experience associated with Diddy, and others who worked with him have recounted similar experiences, it’s unclear if she ever saw the man himself at the time.

The businesswoman’s broader point is that the misconduct that Diddy is accused of and that others like R. Kelly have been convicted of, is part of a larger problem within the music industry of gatekeepers, usually men, using their power to abuse music hopefuls, who are usually women.

She is hopeful that this is changing. Ty Stiklorius points out that the music industry’s growth has slowed in 2024, and that a need for change from a business perspective is an opportunity to shift power away from the people she calls gatekeepers. She specifically calls out the success of Chappell Roan, who only became mainstream after stepping away from the traditional studio model.

To Ty Stiklorius' point, she mentions another time, unrelated to Diddy, when a music executive passed her a key to his hotel room, an invitation she declined. But knowing it happened to her, she knows it happened to others as well. She hopes that we may be at a point where these people will lose power. She continued…

Ty Stiklorius says she nearly left the industry, and the only thing that stopped her was the early success of her friend, John Legend. She became his manager and was able to grow that into a successful organization.

As far as Diddy goes, he’s currently set to stand trial in May on charges of sex trafficking and racketeering.

When The Voice returns to NBC on the Fall TV schedule in 2024 and for the foreseeable future, it won’t feature Kelly Clarkson, who seemed to permanently end her successful coaching career when her talk show moved to New York City from L.A. But that doesn’t mean she’ll be done talking about her co-stars from the hit series anytime soon, and she amusingly revealed an advantage she’s long had over her male counterparts.

When it comes to potentially avoiding a ton of public attention from fans, Clarkson is apparently able to enter stealth mode far easier than coaches such as Blake Shelton and John Legend. Speaking with the Associated Press, Clarkson was asked if rumors were true about her being a frequent subway rider, and whether she gets recognized. In her words:

The act of getting dressed up and made-up can be the bane of any female’s existence, but Clarkson spoke to the specific advantage that celebrities have in that department. If she’d hit the subway with her hair and makeup in full bloom, there’d be no mistaking her. But without those signature features that play up the American Idol winner’s glamor, her biggest giveaway is that Southern twang. If only she was perfect at impersonating others.

Clarkson continued, specifically addressing her former Voice cohorts, neither of whom will be involved with the newest season. As she put it:

No matter how much makeup and hair product one would apply to Blake Shelton, I can't imagine a universe where it would be successful at making him unrecognizable. Maybe if he had a different kind of hat beyond a cowboy hat or baseball cap, and had full-color face makeup like wrestlers and clowns wear. But he might not want to go through all those lengths.

Another show Kelly Clarkson won't be popping up on is American Idol, though she recently shared her thoughts about Carrie Underwood joining the show for the judge slot vacated by Katy Perry. Previously, Clarkson denied wanting to vie for, given all of the other gigs she’s got on her plate, and I can't imagine anyone would blame her.

I also can't imagine joining Idol would make the musician more recognizable than she already is. So here's hoping she can continue to have peaceful subway rides now that this info is out there.

Of course, most viewers focus on the Academy Awards’ big four – Best Actor, Actress, Director, and Best Picture. However, Best Original Song crept up in the last four decades to become a coveted prize for music’s top stars, as seen by pop superstar Billie Eilish picking up her second Oscar this year. It is often a missing piece in a music superstar’s EGOT quest.

Black musicians have racked up many nominations in the category since it was first presented in 1934. The special list includes everyone from music legends like Lionel Richie, Quincy Jones, and Ray Parker Jr. to contemporary icons like Beyonce, Kendrick Lamar, Mary J. Blige, and The Weeknd. Unfortunately, that hasn’t translated into an avalanche of Black Best Song winners, with only seven total winners. The low win tally almost ignores Black music’s contribution to film.

Some excellent winners captured the hearts and minds of moviegoers, critics, and pop culture. So, here are the five best Oscar-winning songs by Black musicians to check out during this Black Music Month.

"Theme From Shaft" - Isaac Hayes

Isaac Hayes’s “Theme from Shaft” was a notable musical change upon its release in 1971 to set the tone for the blaxploitation classic Shaft. The title song was considered one of the earliest disco songs.

The iconic tune came to fruition after Hayes was promised an audition for the title role, which he lost to Richard Roundtree. The film’s director, Gordon Parks, contributed to the song’s lyrics, and the theme blended soul and funk with live instrumentation and arrangement by Hayes and Johnny Allen, which drew inspiration from late soul singer Otis Redding’s “Try A Little Tenderness.” The song’s lyrics tapped into John Shaft’s coolness, courage, and sex appeal with famous quotes like “a bad mother---” and “you’re damn right!”

While “Theme from Shaft” is considered one of cinema’s best opening songs, it didn’t start that way. Originally, it was a typical film opener before it and Shaft’s popularity took off, forcing Stax Records to release it as a single. The film’s theme was successful in both the US and UK, reaching the Top 5.

After winning Best Original Song at the 44th Academy Awards, Hayes became the first Black person to that award and a non-acting award. He also became the first person credited as a writer and performer of an Oscar-winning song. The late singer and actor has been cited as the first theatrical performance at the awards ceremony. The “Theme from Shaft” won two Grammys – Best Instrumental Arrangement and Best Original Score. The hit song’s replay value and impact garnered placement on AFI’s 100 Years… 100 Songs and in the Grammy Hall of Fame.

"I Just Called To Say I Love You" - Stevie Wonder

Stevie Wonder’s “I Just Called to Say I Love You” came at the height of the singer-songwriter’s popularity when the rom-com it appeared in, Woman in Red, was released in 1984. The soundtrack song ended up becoming one of Wonder’s biggest hits.

The best-selling song was one of multiple tunes Wonder wrote, produced, and sang for the film’s soundtrack. It was the epitome of early 1980s post-disco R&B with the Grammy winner programming most of its synth-filled production. Sounding like a surprise phone call between lovers allowed it to play like a tender, romantic letter filled with love and optimism. Unfortunately, the song’s success led to Wonder’s former songwriting partner, Lee Garrett, suing him over credit, which ended up being dismissed.

“I Just Called to Say I Love You” was released as the film’s first single and became an immediate international hit, landing in the Top 2 in most countries. It became the music icon’s best-selling single to date.

The Motown legend became the second Black man to win Best Original Song (at the 57th Academy Awards). Before winning the Oscar, Wonder won Best Original Song at the Golden Globes. He was nominated for three Grammys, including Song of the Year.

"Glory" - Common And John Legend

“Glory” by Common and John Legend was tailor-made to capture the emotions and heaviness exemplified by the civil rights biopic Selma when released in 2014. The anthemic song touched on the themes of the past and present.

The big, cinema anthem came about when co-writer Common was cast as civil rights leader James Bevel in the film. It came together after Legend and rapper Rhymefest hopped on board to co-write the civil rights song. In the spirit of Martin Luther King and the nonviolent marches, the music echoed the past and present civil rights movements with its blend of conscious hip-hop and old-school soul music courtesy of Legend’s music production. It captured the song’s lyrics around the Selma to Montgomery marches’ connection to present-day civil rights efforts. The single came at a crucial time in American history after the unrest of the 2014 Ferguson protests.

“Glory” stood out as the lone single from the Selma soundtrack. It became a minor US and international hit. The disappointing chart success didn’t mar the song’s impact, however.

The Grammy-winning duo won the Best Original Song Oscar at the 87th Academy Awards after their touching performance. Before winning the Oscar, Common and Legend won Best Song prizes at the Golden Globes and the Critics’ Choice Awards. They followed up those wins with three Grammy nominations, winning Best Song Written for Visual Media.

"Fight For You" - H.E.R.

“Fight For You” by H.E.R. channeled the tension around the life and assassination of Black Panther leader Fred Hampton for Judas and the Black Messiah when it was released in 2021. The recording was an award-season underdog.

The heartfelt cinematic anthem came together after director Shaka King requested the Grammy winner to write for the biopic, wanting something “contemporary with echoes of 1968.” It was specifically crafted to be the film’s main track, which she co-wrote with Tiara Thomas. The civil rights song blended soul and R&B music, drawing inspiration from Curtis Mayfield and the genre’s vast history. The music production from the singer-songwriter and D’Mile brought to life the lyrics around the film’s examination of racism, police brutality, and inequality. Much like “Glory,” the single came at the height of the Black Lives Matter movement and a renewed focus on other issues faced by Black Americans.

“Fight for You” served as Judas and the Black Messiah’s first single. The protest anthem became a minor US hit.

The Grammy-winning artist won Best Original Song at the 93rd Academy Awards, considered an Oscar upset by many critics. H.E.R. was nominated for multiple awards, including the Golden Globes and the Critics’ Choice Awards. She racked up three Grammy nominations on the music side, winning Best Traditional R&B Performance.

"Flashdance... What A Feeling" - Irene Cara

Irene Cara’s “Flashdance… What a Feeling” took over pop culture when it was released in 1983 as the first offering from one of the best dance movies, Flashdance. The huge pop tune became one of 1983’s biggest singles and one of the first post-disco dance hits.

The uplifting pop anthem started as a strict Giorgio Moroder production with aid from British pop singer Keith Forsey. Irene Cara joined the production after Moroder asked her to follow a request from Paramount Pictures for a big-name performer for the title track. She only agreed after stipulating she could only perform a song she wrote, which she did with Forsey. The soundtrack single drew from early 1980s dance-pop and post-disco with Moroder’s genre-defining music production. The lyrics were influenced by a film scene where the main character finds musical inspiration while dancing.

“Flashdance… What a Feeling” was originally pushed as a minor single for film promotion purposes before its commercial release, due to the film and song’s surprising popularity. Soon, the huge tune became a worldwide hit, landing within the Top 10 or 20.

The late singer and actress won Best Original Song at the 56th Academy Awards, becoming the first Black woman credited with writing and performing a song to win the award. Cara won the Best Song Golden Globe as well. She racked up multiple Grammy nominations on the music side, winning Best Female Pop Performance. The song’s impact and popularity garnered a placement on AFI’s 100 Years… 100 Songs and joined the National Recording Registry.

The above songs have affected film and culture in a way that is still felt today. This year, Grammy winner Jon Batiste received his first Best Original Song nomination for American Symphony’s “It Never Went Away.”

While our next awards season hasn’t started yet, there’s no better time to look up potential Best Original Song nominations. Of course, glance over our 2024 movie schedule to see potential Oscar-worthy films coming down the pipeline.

Attention The Voice fans! For the first time since Blake Shelton’s exit, one of the original coaches will be returning to the NBC series! It has just been announced that Maroon 5 frontman, Adam Levine, is set to return as one of the four coaches. And, yes, the first thing that came to my mind was: Who is going to fill the competitive void left by Levine's biggest adversary Blake Shelton? I have a theory! 

After the series previously announced that Gwen Stefani is returning for Season 26 on the fall 2024 TV schedule alongside Snoop Dogg, Reba McEntire and Michael Bublé, NBC has now also revealed, per Deadline, who will front 2025’s Season 27. Adam Levine is set to return for the first time since his 2019 exit, and he will be joined by Bublé, John Legend and debut coach, Kelsea Ballerini. Let’s talk about the development! 

I Think Adam Levine's Return Is Going To Help Stir Things Up

First off, I’m excited for Adam Levine’s return for one specific reason: I think his competitive spirit is going to help make things interesting. The singer was on the show for 16 seasons (and won three of them), so he’s coming back as the most seasoned of the bunch. 

One element of his stint on the show that was always fun was how he and Blake Shelton were in constant competition with each other. But how will the dynamic be different in the first season of Levine without Shelton? No matter what I think, it’s going to help stir things up, especially because of how comfortable Levine is in the position of coach. 

John Legend Has The Makings Of Adam Levine’s Next Great Adversary 

Without Blake Shelton as a coach, I think Adam Levine will need a new Blake Shelton-level adversary. And, I think it will be John Legend. 

First of all, he’s the only other highly experienced coach on Season 27 with nine seasons under his belt and one win. He’s also the only coach Levine has worked with before and developed a pre-existing rapport with. Also, Legend won during Adam Levine’s last season – so that had to have stung a bit.

Sure, I imagine Michael Bublé will be trying to prove himself in his sophomore season, and he'll surely be popular among competitors. I also think Kelsea Ballerini will have a good season considering she is the only woman and country star in Season 27. But, after watching many seasons of The Voice with Adam Levine, I think he enjoys racking in the wins and if there’s one coach he’ll be out to (playfully) get, I think he and Legend have an especially fun dynamic on the way!

The hard part is over for the contestants of the 25th season of The Voice, and now it’s all up to America’s vote. After Chance the Rapper’s final artists were eliminated in the semifinals, John Legend, Reba McEntire and Dan + Shay watched their remaining team members leave it all on the stage in the performance finale on May 20. Each artist sang a ballad and an up-tempo number in hopes of winning over the audience, so based on those songs, who deserves the crown?

In a strange twist, none of the five finalists — Nathan Chester, Bryan Olesen, Josh Sanders, Asher HaVon or Karen Waldrup — got the attention of all of The Voice coaches in the Blind Auditions, ensuring that Season 25 will not see another Four-Chair Turn winner. That’s no knock at this season’s talent, though, and may just be a sign that each singer found their perfect match. Let’s take a look at the finale performances, followed by who I think should win the competition. (The artists are listed below in the order they first appeared on Monday’s episode.) 

Nathan Chester (Team Legend) 

Nathan Chester kicked off the show with a spirited rendition of the Motown classic “It’s Your Thing,” before slowing it down with “A Song for You” later in the show. Chester has proven to be quite the entertaining performer this season, but I agree with John Legend, who said his ballad showed how well-rounded he is as a singer. It also seemed like Carson Daly may have a favorite, as he gushed over Chester’s up-tempo song before saying that if the contestant had a Vegas residency, he’d call up all of his friends to go. 

Josh Sanders (Team Reba)  

Reba McEntire’s country singer Josh Sanders had his coach’s emotions running high at the finale, eliciting tears with a heartfelt cover of “Go Rest High on That Mountain.” Sanders got to let go a little later in the show with “Boots On,” which had the whole place rocking, and the Queen of Country said she loved to see what a great time he and the audience were having. I thought both performances were the best the contestant has been all season. 

Asher HaVon (Team Reba) 

Disco is just not my thing, so the fact that Asher HaVon won me over with the Donna Summer classic “Last Dance” is a testament to his talent. There’s literally nothing I wouldn’t listen to him sing. John Legend called the song the perfect choice for the finale, and that was even before HaVon closed out the show by belting “I Will Always Love You.” Both of his performances got a standing ovation from all five coaches. 

Bryan Olesen (Team Legend) 

John Legend had a roller coaster of a night with Bryan Olesen. The EGOT winner was fired up with his team member’s cover of “Freedom! ‘90,” saying he felt Olesen’s passion and energy. He had the opposite response to the singer’s ballad choice, “Beautiful Things,” which got Legend choked up as he remarked: “It feels like when you’re singing it, that you know what it means to lose something. And I really felt it. I really felt it.” Oof, pass the tissues please. 

Karen Waldrup (Team Dan + Shay) 

Dan + Shay couldn’t have been prouder of their country music power house Karen Waldrup, who earned a standing ovation for her version of “What Hurts the Most,” before taking on the country classic “I’m Alright.” Shay Mooney welcomed Waldrup to the country music community, and Dan Smyers commented that she was the most consistent singer on The Voice this season and said he can’t wait to see her in concert. 

Who Should Win The Voice Season 25? Asher HaVon

While all of the finalists are unquestionably talented, Asher HaVon was simply unmatched in my opinion, and the other coaches seemed to think so too. While his own coach Reba McEntire said that HaVon embodies what The Voice is all about — finding undiscovered talent — John Legend repeated his past sentiment that HaVon is the best vocalist in the competition. Chance the Rapper echoed that, saying that the artist hasn’t had a single week when Chance didn’t feel that HaVon was the best performer, and he deserves to win the show.

It’s not up to the coaches, however. Tune in for a recap of the finale performances at 8 p.m. ET Tuesday, May 21, before the winner is crowned at the end of the two-hour live finale that starts at 9 p.m. ET on NBC.

The Voice is just one week away from crowning its Season 25 winner and seeing if Reba McEntire, Chance the Rapper or Dan + Shay can notch their first victory on the competition, or if John Legend will finally earn that second crown. As the artists take the stage for the live Semifinals, fans can rest assured that they won’t have to wait too long for the next batch of singers to start choosing their teams, as The Voice has officially been renewed for Season 26. After what we’ve seen this season, however, I’m hoping there’s one big change they make when the show returns. 

What We Know About The Voice Season 26 

Not only has NBC confirmed that the singing competition will return for a 26th season, but it announced its new panel of expert coaches. When The Voice hits the 2024 TV schedule this fall, fans will see the return of Gwen Stefani for an eighth season and Reba McEntire for her third cycle. The show will also welcome newcomers Snoop Dogg and Michael Bublé.

I am so pumped about the new season, especially with the new coaching announcement, although I actually loved the energy Dan + Shay brought to the show, and I still think guest mentor Anthony Ramos would make a great addition to the panel, especially considering his history with the show.

Along with swapping out its coaches, The Voice has also been known to play around with its format, changing the number of artists on each team, adding Steals, Saves, Blocks, Playoff Passes, etc. No game mechanics have been announced yet, but there’s one specific change I hope to see in Season 26. 

The Voice Needs To Go Back To Live Playoffs 

The Playoffs used to be my favorite round of the competition, because it traditionally was the first time America got to weigh in on the teams. However, in the past few seasons that power has been taken away from us. The way it used to work was that members of the same team would perform back to back, allowing us to see each superstar coach’s strongest singers. Two artists would advance from America’s vote, and the coach would get to save a third. The elimination was brutal, but it felt right for that stage of the competition headed into the Top 12.

The last time the Playoffs were live was in Season 22, and with the coaches alone now choosing which three artists should move forward, it just feels like another round of Knockouts. Season 25 also saw the teams alternating, with Night 1 featuring a Team Legend singer, followed by a Team Dan + Shay singer, then back to John Legend’s team (Night 2 did the same thing with Team Reba and Team Chance). However, not seeing the teammates in succession really took away from being able to best determine the artists who most deserved to move forward.

The other downside of not having Live Playoffs is that viewers are robbed of a live show, as the past few seasons have featured only two or three weeks of live competition. By comparison, Season 22 had five weeks of live shows. There’s a lot of buildup for the artists to reach that stage of the competition, but by the time they get there, the season is practically over.

I’ve been a fan of The Voice since the beginning, so I’m so happy to know we’ll be seeing four big names in music take to the Big Red Chairs again. Hopefully they can make it an even better experience for the fans by allowing viewers to get involved earlier in the process. In the meantime, tune in to see how Season 25 plays out, with new episodes at 8 p.m. ET Mondays and Tuesdays on NBC and streaming the next day with a Peacock subscription. 

Spoiler alert! This story contains minor spoilers for the final night of Battles on The Voice’s 25th season, which aired March 26.

After four nights of Battles, The Voice coaches have reduced their teams from 10 apiece to just 7, narrowing the field as we head into Knockouts. There has been some amazing talent shown so far in Season 25, so the mentors were undoubtedly grateful for the opportunity to save one artist from elimination and send them straight to the Playoffs. No Playoff Passes were still available on the final night of Battles, however, and I have to wonder if Chance the Rapper regretted that after his fellow coaches raved about his team members’ “iconic” performance.

The final Battle of Season 25 saw Team Chance’s Rletto and Val T. Webb cover “Saving All My Love for You” by Whitney Houston. Longtime fans of The Voice have seen just how wrong things can go when the contestants take on legends like Whitney, but this rendition left the coaches on their feet and “Speechless” (yes, Dan + Shay did acknowledge they were quoting their own song in saying that). As the artists sang, Chance the Rapper was moving to the beat before jumping up to scream, “Let’s go!” and Dan + Shay seemingly couldn’t do anything but laugh at just how good Val T. Webb and Rletto were. After a very deserving standing ovation, Dan Smyers gave his feedback, telling the Team Chance singers: 

That is some major praise, and especially — again — considering they took on a Whitney Houston anthem. Shay Mooney went on to call Val T. Webb’s voice “literal silk,” and Reba McEntire said Webb reminded them all of why she was a Four-Chair Turn. The queen of country wanted to listen to Webb sing all day, saying she “slays me with her vocal.”

Chance the Rapper’s seemingly impossible decision was made a little easier by the fact that John Legend had a Steal left (and no one else to use it on), so it was known to viewers even before the Battle began that neither hopeful was being eliminated from The Voice. Chance chose to continue with Rletto, sending Val T. Webb to Team Legend, where I have no doubt she’ll be in good hands.

I’ll be surprised if these two artists don’t make it all the way to the finale, and I’m just grateful we get to see both of them take the stage again in the Knockout Round. The Voice will recap the Battles and Blinds at 8 p.m. ET Monday, April 1, on NBC and then kick off the Knockouts a week later on April 8. Hundreds of artists have graced the stage in front of The Voice coaches, hoping to hone their techniques and crack their way into the music industry. While not all of them have become breakthrough artists, some have apparently found something that’s arguably better. On the March 25 episode of The Voice, John Legend revealed that two of his former team members — John Holiday and Rio Souma — ended up getting married, and it turns out there are some gorgeous photos from their celebration.

The Season 19 contestants came up when John Legend was commenting on two of Chance the Rapper’s artists, Serenity Arce and Bri Fletcher, who had formed a close friendship and were sad at the thought of either contestant being eliminated. The “All of Me” crooner he liked to see these kinds of relationships form on The Voice, noting: 

The Voice fans, myself included, immediately needed to know which two members of Team Legend had found lasting love amidst their musical journey, and Parade identified them as John Holiday and Rio Souma. Sure enough back in August 2022, Holiday shared several images of their “Celestial Dream” wedding on Instagram, with the grooms looking nothing short of fabulous in their matching white and gold suits. If you take a trip back to Fall 2020, you might remember that Rio Souma turned three chairs (Kelly Clarkson, Gwen Stefani and John Legend) with his version of “Cruisin’” but was ultimately sent home in the Battles. 

John Holiday, meanwhile, enticed the same trio of coaches, with John Legend blocking Kelly Clarkson to secure the artist. The Texas native made it all the way to fifth place under the EGOT winner’s tutelage and left a lasting impression on his coach by dedicating his Top 9 performance of Coldplay’s “The Scientist” to Legend and his family after they lost their unborn son earlier that year.

It’s pretty obvious to viewers of The Voice that the team members form strong bonds with their fellow contestants on the show, and those relationships can last (personally and professionally) long after they leave. It’s great to get updates from the coaches on what past singers might be up to, and except for Blake Shelton’s big farewell episode — in which many Team Blake alumni and all nine of his winners returned for a big group performance — it doesn’t happen nearly enough.

The Voice Season 25 competition is well underway, with the final round of Battles taking place Tuesday, March 26, ahead of the Knockout round. Chrissy Teigen is fearless when it comes to social media. From getting candid about her boob lift and work she’s had done to trying out the latest fashion trends and joking about nudes (nude kitchenware, get your head out of the gutter), the reality TV show star and Internet personality is a never-ending source of entertainment and often information. Speaking of being ahead of the curve, she recently tried out the chain mail sheer look that’s started popping up on red carpet. I can honestly say love her take so much. 

What I like most about this look compared to other styles in right now is that it still feels cutting edge, yet fairly comfortable. Yeah, you need to be comfortable showing your abs, but you aren’t being stuffed into this sort of outfit like you would be in the corset look Margot Robbie wore, for example. Plus, it’s not so tight or so see-through that you need to be careful with the lighting. Take a look.

Yes, that’s a lot of fire emojis from some major names, though I'm a little disappointed she didn't garner a "that's hot" or other classic catchphrase from Hilton.  

Meanwhile, Emily Ratajkowski recently tried out a similar look, though her chain mail dress certainly had ‘70s inspo. Teigen’s is a bit more classic and I like that it is two-toned. The fact that it’s a two-piece skirt set is certainly on trend as well, and a style the Chrissy's Court star has favored in the past. If you’re looking for something similar, Revolve has some great looks right now. But ASOS can give you a similar feel on a much lower budget, if the sheer chain mail look is one you are wanting to try. 

It always feels like it gets warmer a little early in California, which means some of those fun, flow-y spring and summer looks get to be worn on the West Coast before they spread around to other parts of the country. (I mean, literally, Kylie Jenner and others are already rocking summer 2024 bikinis.) But hey, I'll take that fashion inspo and when the weather heats up, perhaps this is one look I'll be trying as well. 

Coaches have been known to come and go on The Voice, with its music superstars sometimes stepping away for one or more seasons before returning as their schedules allow. This revolving-door policy seems to mean that fan-favorite coach Blake Shelton could technically return to The Voice if he ever wanted to, following his big goodbye on the Season 23 finale. I was pretty bummed when John Legend basically shut down the possibility that would ever happen, but after giving it a little thought, I think it’s actually for the best.

Blake Shelton had become synonymous with NBC’s singing competition, as he was the final member of the original coaching panel to walk away, doing so with 11 years, 23 seasons and 9 victories under his belt. When ET asked John Legend — who is Season 25’s most tenured coach, making his ninth appearance — if there was a chance we’ll see the cowboy again, the EGOT winner suggested Shelton’s wife might be the easier get. Legend said: 

Gwen Stefani did prove that she’s willing to coach even without her husband Blake Shelton next to her, as she returned to the show immediately after he left, so we shouldn’t rule her out for future seasons. However, it sounds like Shelton is enjoying the break he’s finally getting after filming two seasons of The Voice every year for over a decade.

This clearly wasn’t the news fans wanted to hear, because The Voice hasn’t quite been the same since losing the “Boys ‘Round Here” singer. Blake Shelton brought a really fun energy to the show, often hilariously trolling his fellow coaches and forming rivalries with Kelly Clarkson and Adam Levine.

However, it’s probably in The Voice’s best interest that Blake Shelton make a clean break. The singing competition needs to develop its identity outside of its most famous coach, which it has started to do by hiring Reba McEntire to replace him. It definitely can’t continue to do that if the narrative is always whether or not Shelton’s going to dip back in for a season. In the first post-Shelton season, the coaches continued to get asked about him, and that’s clearly still happening, as evidenced by the interview with John Legend above.

In addition to making sure The Voice’s focus remains on the artists and not solely the coaches occupying the Big Red Chairs, Blake Shelton’s absence also gives other mentors the opportunity to collect some wins. Of the 19 other musicians who have served as a coach on The Voice, only nine of them have walked away with a victory. On Season 25, John Legend is the only coach to have taken an artist all the way, winning his first attempt in Season 16.

I’d like to see the trophy go to some different people, and Reba McEntire probably needs to win a season sooner than later if she wants to establish herself as the queen of the panel. Chance the Rapper has been impressive in his second season so far, and Dan + Shay have injected some enthusiasm into Season 25, so I actually feel good about where things are going for The Voice, especially if we know we’re unlikely to ever see Blake Shelton again.

The stakes are high for the coaches this year, as John Legend is the only one among them to have won a season before. In Season 16 he took Maelyn Jarmon all the way to The Voice title but hasn't been able to seal the deal since. Reba McEntire and Chance the Rapper are in their second seasons, both having lost to Niall Horan in their rookie attempts, and Dan + Shay are making their debut in Season 25.

Season 25 of The Voice may only be days old at this point, but it’s already been a monumental one for a very big reason. This is the first time we’re getting a season-long double chair coaching partnership in popular country music duo Dan + Shay, and while they’ve already opened up about how working together might actually hurt their chances on the long-running competition, it’s led other The Voice coaches to narrow down who they’d want to coach with. John Legend knows exactly who he’d join forces with if there were an all double chair season, and it’s definitely an A+ pick.

Who Would John Legend Pick As His Double Chair Coach And Why Are They Great?

John Legend is no slouch when it comes to The Voice. The EGOT winner has been a part of the coaching panel since Season 16, and missed only one season during that time. He also managed to pick eventual winning singer Maelyn Jarmon for his team in his very first season, so we do know that he’s good at choosing folks he’ll be simpatico with. When asked to pick any other singer to pair up with to attempt to lead someone on their team to victory for the NBC singing competition, the dad of four made an awesome choice:

I mean, could he have made a more perfect pick? Of course not! The man has 12 Grammys from 36 nominations. He knows his music, OK? As the “Ordinary People” singer noted, he and Clarkson have a history of wanting to work with the same contestants, leading to more than one friendly “I turned for you first” battle between the two after someone auditions.

Also, it should be stated that Ms. Clarkson also really knows her stuff. The pop superstar became our first American Idol way back in 2002, and has her own cache of Grammys and innumerable other awards for her talents as a singer/songwriter/hit-maker. She’s also proven very good at coaching, as during her nine-season run on The Voice, she’s led a singer to the winning spot four times, including during her first two seasons.

Not only do Legend and his potential co-coach have a love of similar artists in common, but they would also have pretty much every genre of music covered when looking to compose their team. He reliably has R&B on lock, but is no stranger to pop, rap and other styles of music. And, while the “Stronger” artist he’d like to pair with is famous for her R&B tinged pop vocals, if you watch the Emmy-winning The Kelly Clarkson Show, you’ve seen her Kellyoke segment, and know that she loves every genre (and can put her own spin on them) based on the covers she does there. Honestly, now that the idea of Legend and Clarkson coaching together is in my head, I think the show should just go ahead and do a double chair season so we can get this and other amazing coaching team ups!

It’s always a risk when contestants on The Voice choose to audition with a song made popular by one of the superstar coaches. Just the nerves alone of singing someone’s hit in front of them seems like added pressure they’d want to avoid, and the mentors have had mixed reactions over the years to hearing their songs covered. For Ryan Argast, it was still a risk worth taking, as the Season 25 hopeful belted “Speechless” by new coaches Dan + Shay during The Voice’s premiere on February 26. So how did the rookies react?

Lucky for the 30-year-old from Illinois, Dan + Shay looked excited when they heard their song start playing — quite a different reaction than is sometimes seen from John Legend, who famously rarely turns for his own songs. Not only did the country-pop duo get Ryan Argast on their team by being the only coaches to hit their button, they joined him on stage to sing a version of “Speechless” altogether. Shay Mooney had a big smile on his face as the contestant crooned the lyrics, and he appeared ready to turn before his partner was — one of the potential pitfalls of being a coaching duo — as he had to voice his opinion to Dan Smyers a couple of times before ultimately hitting the button. Mooney acknowledged that what Ryan Argast had done wasn’t easy, telling the singer: 

Dan Smyers added that he loved when Ryan Argast made the chorus his own after staying loyal to the opening with his “super sexy, super R&B” tone. He even said he’d probably be thinking about Argast’s version when they perform “Speechless” in the future. That’s some pretty huge praise, and I’d have to agree that Argast’s rasp added a nice depth to the single. Have Dan + Shay ever considered a trio? 

Ryan Argast got what he wanted out of the experience, as he secured a spot on Season 25, but not everybody has similar luck when pulling that risky move. John Legend was a coach on The Voice for six seasons before he turned his chair for Season 20 contestant Victor Solomon’s version of the Oscar-winning song “Glory.” He said he tends to scrutinize his songs more harshly because he’s so familiar with them, and while Gwen Stefani said she loved when artists covered her songs, she agreed it can be strange when the lyrics or the vocals are so personal.

It will be interesting to see if any other potential contestants go down that road with their audition songs and what the coaches’ reactions will be if they do. A new season of The Voice is upon us, as Season 25 introduced Dan + Shay and welcomed back second-timers Reba McEntire and Chance the Rapper, as well as veteran John Legend. Spirits were definitely high, as the coaches came armed with tricks to entice artists to their team, from McEntire showing off her Grammy to Legend inflating a dancing tube man. Chance, however, didn’t need anything but his voice to pull off the slickest move of the night, and the way he stole an artist out from under the EGOT winner has me excited to see what else Chance has up his sleeve this season.

Nadège, a 26-year-old singer from Florida wowed John Legend and Chance the Rapper with her audition, and the veteran mentor seemed to have the battle won after he got on stage to duet with the artist on his hit single “Ordinary People.” Chance was not to be deterred, though, and he offered to sing the song with her too — an offer she obviously accepted — and he took the stage to give his “best John Legend impersonation.” You can watch it all go down below: 

OK, so Chance the Rapper definitely showed he’s got skills, and it seemed like he even surprised himself at how much he sounded like John Legend. The move, which Reba McEntire hilariously dubbed “almost shameful,” paid off, too, as Nadège shockingly joined Team Chance. Chance reveled in the moment, telling the other Voice coaches that he felt like he just won the show. His disbelief continued, as he said: 

This organically hilarious moment was better than any of the manufactured silliness that the coaches used to try to best each other, and I loved seeing Chance the Rapper finally get to shine. 

I thought he was great on his initial run on The Voice in Season 23, but it seemed like he kind of got overshadowed. It’s not hard to see how that happened, considering who he was up against: There was Kelly Clarkson, who famously never stopped talking; Blake Shelton, whose final season was mentioned with such regularity he was probably playing a drinking game from his Big Red Chair; and Niall Horan, who spent the season bonding with the cowboy as his adopted son.

However, in the Season 25 premiere we got a clearer look at just how funny and talented Chance the Rapper is. After the stunt he pulled — not to mention blocking Reba McEntire on the opening artist — the other coaches won’t be underestimating him as a threat this season. The Voice continues at 8 p.m. ET Tuesday, February 27, with episodes available to stream the next day with a Peacock subscription. Another season of The Voice is upon us, with Dan + Shay joining the coaching panel alongside Reba McEntire, John Legend and Chance the Rapper. Season 25 marks not only the second season without Blake Shelton but the first without any member of the Shelton family, as his wife Gwen Stefani’s exit seemed all but inevitable after he left. And yet he still apparently has kept in touch with his former colleagues, as they revealed the gifts they’d received from Shelton and kept his trolling legacy alive by firing some good-natured shots at him.

Blake Shelton was known to be quite the troublemaker during his 23 seasons as a coach on The Voice, picking fights with Adam Levine in the early days before Kelly Clarkson became a more worthy opponent. But if one ever needed proof that there’s nothing but love between the “Ol’ Red” singer and the stars of the NBC singing competition, consider the thoughtful gifts he sent to the Season 25 coaches. John Legend told E! News:  

I think it’s ridiculously sweet that Blake Shelton sent The Voice crew some produce fresh from his Oklahoma farm. For one thing, food is always a good gift option, and the fact that he produced it himself makes it even better. It also shows that he’s been putting all that free time to good use, after shooting two seasons of The Voice a year for over a decade.

Blake Shelton provided similar nourishment to the coaches last season as well, and while that was also super thoughtful, his wife was still a coach, so his continued contact with the show wasn’t altogether unexpected.

How much the current coaches are still in contact with the country singer is harder to pin down, as Reba McEntire took a jab at her longtime friend, saying:

Even Chance the Rapper, who worked with Blake Shelton on Season 23, got a shot in there, jesting: 

Of course these claims can only mean one thing — that Blake Shelton remains a true friend to the show and is probably in regular contact with the country music queen who replaced him, as well as his other buddies.

Gwen Stefani may be gone now too, but she was hardly the only connection remaining between The Voice and its winningest coach. Reba McEntire served as Team Blake’s mentor on his first season way back in 2012, and the same can be said for Dan + Shay, who mentored Blake Shelton’s team in Season 20. Shelton also has another show, Barmageddon, that he created with The Voice host Carson Daly and former EP Lee Metzger that has seen other former coaches like Stefani and Kelly Clarkson competing in exaggerated bar games.

Although we’re well into the post-Blake Shelton era of The Voice, I’m not sure the mark he made on the show will ever fully be gone, and the fans and friends he made along the way are probably just fine with that. “Baby Got Back” was a staple of ‘90s music, and it doesn’t matter what your preferred genre was, if you were around in 1992, you likely knew every word to the Sir Mix-a-Lot hit. Reba McEntire is no different, and she may be the queen of country music, but the newest coach on The Voice proved that she’s schooled in all things when she continually quoted a line from "Baby Got Back" on the show. A clip of McEntire shouting-out the rapper has gone viral on TikTok, showing the priceless reactions from Gwen Stefani, John Legend and Niall Horan.

A segment that aired on The Voice Season 24 finale — which saw Niall Horan’s singer Huntley crowned the champion — showed several clips of Reba McEntire using the phrase, “Oh my god Becky,” much to the amusement of her colleagues. See the TikTok video for yourself: 

That segment has been viewed over a million times, and it’s easy to see why. Niall Horan, who might get a pass on not immediately recognizing the lyric since he’s from Ireland and was not alive in ‘92, seemed confused at what Reba McEntire was even saying, asking, “Oh my god, what?” Gwen Stefani, who was very much part of the ‘90s music scene, also plead ignorance, musing: 

If she didn’t realize Reba was quoting Sir Mix-a-Lot, it’s probably because the “Fancy” singer doesn’t say the line like it’s said in the intro to the song. Reba McEntire tends to run all the words together, and to hear “Oh my god Becky” coming out of her mouth with that Oklahoma drawl, rap lyrics are really the last thing you’d think of.

John Legend has possibly the most hilarious reaction, as he seemed shocked that the 68-year-old icon would be quoting a rap song about large posteriors, marveling:

She definitely does seem to know. Reba McEntire cleared everything up herself by confirming that she plucked the saying straight from Sir Mix-a-Lot, telling The Voice cameras: 

It’s actually quite cute when she says it. 

The Voice may be over for now, but Reba McEntire will rejoin the panel for Season 25 in 2024, still looking for her first win after taking over for the now-retired Blake Shelton. This spring she’ll be joined by John Legend, Chance the Rapper and country/pop stars Dan + Shay, who will make their debut as the first-ever coaching duo. And you can bet I’ll be keeping an ear out for more “Oh my god Becky”s coming from the country queen’s chair.

In case you’d forgotten, Season 24 of The Voice marked the first time Blake Shelton was not on the coaching panel, and when the cowboy previously talked about passing the torch to Niall Horan, his newfound “son,” we all kind of thought it was a joke. However, it seems The Voice might actually have found its next super coach, as the One Direction alum notched his second win during Tuesday night’s finale, with Huntley being named the Season 24 champion.

Huntley blew the roof off the place in Monday’s performance finale, particularly with his episode-ending rendition of Creed’s “Higher,” and in the eyes of the voters, that was enough to put him past teammate Mara Justine; Reba McEntire’s Jacquie Roar and Ruby Leigh; and John Legend’s Lila Forde. Just before the winner was announced, Niall Horan had some final words for his artist, as he recalled all four coaches turning for Huntley in the Blind Auditions. Horan said:

Win or lose, the coach said, they were headed for a beer after the finale. With Huntley’s win, Niall Horan becomes the second of The Voice coaches (after Kelly Clarkson) to win their first two seasons, and he’s just the fourth mentor overall to notch multiple wins on The Voice, along with Blake Shelton, Clarkson and Adam Levine. 

With none of those three likely to make a return to The Voice anytime soon, if ever, has the former boy-bander set himself up to be the next juggernaut coach? Only time will tell, and we won’t get that answer right away anyway, with Horan sitting out Season 25.

The big announcement came after a night of wild performances that included a Barbie-inspired group number from the Top 12 and duets from each of the finalists with their coaches. Huntley and Niall Horan’s voices complemented each other perfectly on their cover of “Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door,” before Jacquie Roar and Reba McEntire honored this season’s Mega Mentor Wynonna Judd with a rendition of “No One Else on Earth.”  

Mara Justine chose her mother’s favorite song, “Wasted Time” by the Eagles to sing with Niall Horan. Lila Forde and John Legend provided a jazzy, festive duet of “Sleigh Ride,” and Ruby Leigh closed things out with the queen of country, singing “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree,” where McEntire proved that even icons forget the lyrics sometimes.

The Season 24 finale also included performances from icons like Earth, Wind & Fire, who boogied to a medley of their greatest hits. Keith Urban crooned his hit song “Blue Ain’t Your Color,” while Teddy Swims sang his single “Lose Control.” 

Just as The Voice’s Top 5 represented artists of different genres, so too did the music superstars who performed Tuesday night, with R&B sensation Tyla singing “Water,” rockers AJR performing a medley of “Bang!” and “Yes I’m a Mess,” and pop-country duo Dan + Shay taking the stage with “Bigger Houses.”

Dan + Shay made an appearance on this season of The Voice, filling in for Niall Horan when his tour schedule conflicted with the show. The singers will return as the series’ first coaching duo in Season 25, and I can’t wait to see how that’s going to work. We even got a first look during the finale of the double red chair that will be placed alongside Reba McEntire, John Legend and Chance the Rapper when the show returns in 2024.

The Voice Season 24 artists have done all they can do, and it’s up to America’s vote now. After Gwen Stefani’s final singer was eliminated in the semifinals, John Legend, Niall Horan and Reba McEntire watched their team members perform two songs apiece on Monday night — a ballad and an up-tempo song — to make one last attempt to win the audience members’ single vote. So based on those performances, which contestant should take the crown?

It’s definitely not an easy decision that America has to make, with all five finalists showing immense talent throughout the season. For the first time in The Voice history, every artist in the finale earned a Four-Chair Turn in the Blind Auditions, so it certainly could go in any direction. Let’s take a look at what each artist brought to the final night of competition, and which one I think should win. (The artists are listed in the order they appeared in the episode.) 

Jacquie Roar (Team Reba) 

Jacquie Roar opened the finale by singing Boston’s “More Than a Feeling,” and she definitely gave it everything she had. Reba McEntire’s singer put her rocker edge on the classic and worked hard to deliver some huge notes at the end, prompting her coach to comment: “You know how they say ‘Go big or go home’? Girl, you went big.” She didn’t stop there, as her second performance of “Nights in White Satin” was moody indeed, wrapped in her signature wails. 

Lila Forde (Team Legend) 

Lila Forde’s uniqueness has been a strength for her all season, and in the finale especially, the coaches highlighted her “strange and beautiful” take on the songs. After putting her spin on “The Weight” — which caused her coach John Legend to comment on the individuality, authenticity and musicality she brings to every performance — she sang a haunting version of The Beatles’ “Across the Universe.” Niall Horan noted how special it was “in a competition full of acrobats” that she remained unapologetically herself. 

Mara Justine (Team Niall)

Mara Justine seemed determined to leave The Voice with no regrets, first taking on Adele before absolutely embodying Janis Joplin. John Legend — who admitted he was upset he allowed her to be stolen by Niall Horan — loved the gentle rasp she added to “Turning Tables.” Then, during “Piece of My Heart,” she absolutely owned the stage, despite being the shortest person up there amidst what looked like 25 dancers. Even Carson Daly commented that it felt like we’d left the finale to attend a Mara Justine concert. 

Huntley (Team Niall)

The sole male singer left in the competition, Huntley impressed his coach Niall Horan by being able to contain his emotions to show America another side to his voice with “Another Love” by Tom Odell. Huntley also had the honor of closing out the show, taking on Creed’s “Higher,” in a show-stopping performance that fit his vocal abilities like a glove. John Legend commented that he doesn’t understand how Huntley isn’t already playing arenas, calling him a “rock ‘n’ roll creature.” 

Ruby Leigh (Team Reba)

While it does tend to get old hearing the judges marvel at the fact that Ruby Leigh is only 16 years old, that doesn’t make it any less astonishing. The Team Reba put a bluegrass twist on Elvis’ “Suspicious Minds,” drawing praise from her coach for making it her own (and also for descending a staircase in the fog while singing). Then she channeled emotions far beyond her years for “Desperado,” which included just enough of her signature yodel to remind us whose show this was. 

Who Should Win The Voice Season 24? Mara Justine 

This one is hard to predict, not just because of the caliber of talent but because the Top 5 artists are all so unique, showing off different strengths in different genres. A competition like this, though, favors a powerhouse singer, and I think Mara Justine deserves to bring it home after providing the perfect marriage of passion and execution.

We don’t have long to wait to find out if my prediction is correct. Voting is open until 7 a.m. ET Tuesday, and the winner will be crowned that night at the end of a star-studded finale that will feature performances from Earth, Wind & Fire, Keith Urban, AJR, Jelly Roll, Tyla and Dan + Shay. Each finalist will also perform a duet with their coach. Taylor Swift seems to be everywhere these days, from the movie theater with her record-breaking concert film Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour, to Kansas City Chiefs games in support of boyfriend Travis Kelce, to being honored with a night of her music on Dancing with the Stars. For The Voice Season 24 Semifinals, the Top 9 artists got in on the fun too, with the remaining contestants breaking into trios to put their own spin on a few of the music icon’s tunes. So after another night of fierce competition, who represented the artist best? Let’s take a look. 

Huntley, Mac Royals and Lila Forde: Exile 

The first performance of the night came from John Legend’s two remaining artists — Mac Royals and Lila Forde — and Niall Horan’s Huntley, singing the folklore favorite “Exile.” The three each opened with a small solo before their voices came together in haunting harmony. It’s kind of amazing how three such unique voices from singers of different genres can gel so beautifully, and fans seemed to like what they were hearing. Some comments from X included:

Jacquie Roar, Mara Justine and Nini Iris: Don’t Blame Me 

The next trio comprised Season 24’s powerhouse singers — Mara Justine and Nini Iris of Niall Horan’s team and Reba McEntire’s Jacquie Roar — appropriately visiting the Reputation era with “Don’t Blame Me.” Iris was the recipient of the big note that Taylor Swift hits near the end of the song, but all three had plenty of opportunity to belt out their own runs. This was my personal favorite of the three, and fans seemed to love the energy this trio brought, commenting on social media:

Bias, Jordan Rainer and Ruby Leigh: Mean (Taylor’s Version) 

It felt appropriate that the final trio, which featured Gwen Stefani’s lone remaining team member Bias singing with Team Reba’s Jordan Rainer and Ruby Leigh, leaned more toward Taylor Swift’s country roots with “Mean (Taylor’s Version).” Their voices sounded so natural together, with Rainer picking at a banjo alongside the other two strumming guitars to enhance the bluegrass feel of the Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) hit. Some viewers were surprised how well it came together, commenting:

It was a good night to be a Swiftie if you were watching The Voice, but which artists impressed America to win over the voters? In addition to their Taylor Swift trios, the Top 9 also gave a solo performance with a song picked by fans before voting was opened up. 

Viewers have until 7 a.m. ET Tuesday, December 12, to cast their votes, but unfortunately we get just one vote (per email, per voting method), so tough choices must be made. Halle Berry is pure Ohio. Not only was John Wick: Chapter 3 star born in Cleveland but she's even named after a local department store, Halle's. Berry grew up in the suburb of Oakwood, just outside the Cleveland city limits, and even attended Cuyahoga Community College while she was first starting her career toward fame. Before starring in some of Hollywood's biggest movies, Berry represented her home state in the Miss USA contest, after being named Miss Ohio USA in 1986. 

Luke Perry

Luke Perry found fame playing a high school student at the posh West Beverly High, but his beginnings were much more humble. The son of a steelworker, Perry was born in the Ohio town of Mansfield and raised in a tiny burg called Fredericktown, where he attended high school at Fredericktown High School. He moved to Los Angeles after graduating and while it took a few years, he landed his big break in Beverly Hills, 90210. Perry died tragically from a stroke in 2019.

Drew Carey

No one on this list is more proud to be from Ohio than Price Is Right host Drew Carey. It's clear that his Cleveland roots mean a lot to him, given that his show, The Drew Carey Show, was set in Cleveland, with a theme song called "Cleveland Rocks." Not only did the comedian grow up in Cleveland, he also attended Kent State in Ohio and even served in the Marine Corps reserves in the state before moving west to find fame. 

Katie Holmes

Katie Holmes was born in Toledo, Ohio in 1978 and has always remained a proud Ohioan. She attended Catholic school as a kid and began modeling in Toledo while still in high school. That led to opportunities in New York City, which led to her landing her first film role at 19 in Ang Lee's The Ice Storm (1997). Soon after, she joined the cast of Dawson's Creek and the rest is history. 

John Legend

The Voice judge John Legend was born in the central Ohio town of Springfield. Legend was a true prodigy during his upbringing. He was dabbling in music at a young age, before leaving Ohio to attend the University of Pennsylvania.

Yvette Nicole Brown took the hard road to fame. Before she landed her starring role on Community, she found her way to success with bit parts and one-offs on TV shows. It all paid off in the end, but before she made it in Hollywood, she was born and raised in the Cleveland, OH area. After high school, she attended the University of Akron and moved to LA after she graduated. 

Clark Gable

There is no bigger star from the Golden Age of Hollywood than Clark Gable. Like many of his fellow Ohioans, he had humble beginnings. Born in 1901 in Cadiz, OH, Gable moved around the state quite a bit before his father and stepmother settled near Akron. Gable struck out on his own, first working in a tire factory in Akron, before bouncing around until he finally ended up in Hollywood in the 1920s. 

Beverly D'Angelo

When you are the granddaughter of the architect who designed the famous Ohio Stadium at The Ohio State University, you know you are pure Ohio. Such is the case for Vacation star Beverly D'Angelo. Unsurprisingly, D'Angelo was born in Columbus and raised in the suburb of Upper Arlington, before setting out on an entertainment career that took her all over North America, before she found success in Hollywood. 

Steve Harvey

Okay, so we're fudging here a little, as beloved talk show host and TV judge Steve Harvey was actually born in West Virginia, but he was raised in Cleveland. After graduating from high school, he briefly attended Kent State, before dropping out and starting his standup career in comedy clubs in and around Cleveland. 

Paul Newman

When you think of the words "movie star," there's a good chance you might picture Paul Newman. From the mid-'50s until his death in 2008, the Shaker Heights, OH native was box office gold. He graduated from Shaker Heights High in 1943 and joined the Navy during World War II. He finally headed to LA in the '50s and over the next six decades starred in some of the biggest movies of all time. 

Arsenio Hall

Born in Cleveland in 1956, actor and talk show host Arsenio Hall grew up in nearby Warrensville Heights, Ohio, and attended college at both Ohio University and Kent State. He left Ohio, first for Chicago and later LA, and his career took off with some fantastic roles from there. 

Phyllis Diller

Phyllis Diller's remarkable life began in Lima, Ohio in 1917. Her roundabout way to comedy legend status started when she was still a full-time mother and homemaker with her military husband in Alameda, CA. She was discovered after she made some appearances on Bay Area radio and TV stations and from there became a star. 

Rachael Harris

Lucifer star Rachael Harris was born in Worthington, OH, and grew up in the Columbus area before attending college at Otterbein University in nearby Westerville, OH. She moved to LA and was a member of the legendary improv group The Groundlings before she started landing TV roles in the 1990s. Today she's best known for Goosebumps (2023) and Diary of a Wimpy Kid (2010), in addition to Lucifer. 

Steven Spielberg

In The Fablemans, Ohio native Steven Spielberg tells a fictionalized version of his own life, but one major change was made. In the movie, Sammy Fabelman (Gabriel LaBelle) and his family move from New Jersey to Arizona. In real life, the Spielbergs moved to Phoenix from Cincinnati, Ohio. Though he only lived in Cincinnati for the first ten years or so of his life, there is no doubt that one of the all-time great directors has his roots in Ohio. 

Carmen Electra

Carmen Electra was born just outside of Cincinnati and grew up in the Queen City. She first started dancing and acting at Princeton High School in the Cincinnati school district and her love of doing both led directly to Hollywood where she's been doing both for decades now. 

Doris Day

Though she retired from acting in 1968, Doris Day is still remembered as a legend of old Hollywood. She also recorded almost three dozen albums over her nearly 100-year life. It all started in Cincinnati in 1922 when Day was born Doris Mary Anne Kappelhoff. Her career started as a singer on a local radio station in Cincinnati, WLW. Her music led her to Hollywood, and a star was born. 

Philip Michael Thomas

Philip Michael Thomas is most famous for starring as Rico Tubbs on the '80s hit Miami Vice. He's also famous for inventing the term "EGOT", claiming in the '80s that he would win an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar, and a Tony, though he has yet to win any of the prestigious awards. Thomas was born in Cincinnati, but raised in California, where his career began. 

Teri Garr

Though she was raised mostly in Los Angeles, Teri Garr was born near Cleveland, OH, in the suburb of Lakewood. Her parents were entertainers, so it makes sense they would eventually land in Southern California, so while Garr didn't spend much time in Ohio, the state can certainly claim her as one of their own. 

Randy "Macho Man" Savage

Oh yeah! One of the greatest wrestlers of all time came from Columbus, OH. Born Randy Poffo in 1952, the Macho Man and his wrestling brother "Leaping" Lanny Poffo lived in Zanesville, Ohio, until the family moved to the Chicagoland area when Savage was in high school. Though he tried to become a pro baseball player, Savage found fame with the WWE and was a superstar in the sport until he died in 2012. 

Anne Heche

Before her tragic death in 2022, Anne Heche put together an impressive career in Hollywood and broke a lot of barriers when she very publicly dated Ellen DeGeneres. It was a long way from her strict Christian upbringing in Ohio. Heche was born in the Akron suburb of Aurora, Ohio, and also lived near Cleveland for a time before her father moved the family to New Jersey in 1977 when Heche was eight. 

Rob Lowe

Okay, okay, so Rob Lowe was actually born in Virginia, but he moved to Dayton, OH at a very young age and was raised in the Buckeye State. His first gigs as a professional actor came when he was still living in Dayton and as soon as he could, he headed out to Hollywood where he became one of the famous "Brat Pack" in the 1980s. His career had a few bumps in the road, but today he's one of the most beloved stars on the silver screen. 

Sarah Jessica Parker

Sarah Jessica Parker's most famed role is of a dyed-in-the-wool Manhattanite, but the actress was born in a quaint little town near Columbus named Nelsonville, Ohio, with a population of about 5000. Her career as a child actor took her whole family to New York in the 1970s and Parker has never looked back. 

Lili Reinhart

Riverdale star Lili Reinhart was born and raised in the Cleveland area, where she lived until she was 18. After graduating high school, she moved to LA and though she struggled like most young actors, eventually she started landing parts in a few movies, before scoring a starring role on the CW's Riverdale, playing the iconic Betty Cooper. 

Jamie Farr

Jamie Farr's most famous character, Corporal Klinger on one of the highest-rated shows of all time, M*A*S*H, was from Toledo, Ohio, which would have been easy for the actor to remember, as that is where Farr is from too. For decades, Farr's name was associated with the LPGA golf tournament, The Jamie Farr Classic (with various sponsor names over the years). 

Martin Sheen

Born Ramón Antonio Gerardo Estévez in Dayton, OH, The West Wing star Martin Sheen always knew he wanted to be an actor, even growing up in Dayton. Orphaned at eleven, he lived in Dayton until he graduated high school and headed off for New York to make it big, and it's safe to say he has. 

Fred Willard

Comedy legend Fred Willard is responsible for some of the funniest lines in the Christopher Guest family of films, a sense of humor he developed as a kid in the Cleveland suburb of Shaker Heights, OH. Born in Cleveland in 1933, Willard moved to New York in the '50s, and though it took a couple of decades to find fame, he eventually did. The world lost a great one when he died in 2020. 

Allison Janney

Though she is technically from Boston, where she was born in 1959, Allison Janney was raised in Dayton. Even her legendary character from The West Wing, CJ Craig, was  from Dayton and went back home in one episode for her high school reunion. 

Katt Williams

Katt Williams, the unpredictable, and hilarious, comedian was born and raised in Cincinnati, but left town and moved to Florida after being emancipated from his parents at age 13. For years he worked the comedy clubs before launching to fame in the late '90s. 

Nancy Cartwright

She might not be the most famous face on this list, but her voice is one of the most famous in the world. Nancy Cartwright has been doing the voice of Bart Simpson (and other Simpsons characters) for more than 30 years, but long before scoring that gig, she grew up in Kettering, Ohio after being born in Dayton.

Patricia Heaton

Patricia Heaton, star of Everybody Loves Raymond and The Middle, was born in the Cleveland suburb of Bay Village, OH and she got her bachelor's degree at The Ohio State University. So while she lives in LA and in the UK these days, she's an Ohioan through and through. 

Catherine Bach

It's hard to believe that The Dukes of Hazzard was consistently one of the highest-rated shows during its run in the late '70s and early '80s. It's not hard to believe that Cleveland native Catherine Bach as Daisy Duke in her short shorts was a big reason why it was so popular. 

Rocky Carroll

NCIS star Rocky Carroll is a proud son of Cincinnati, where he attended the School for Creative and Performing Arts for high school like many other stars from the area. After attending college in St. Louis, MO, he moved to New York City to start his career and he's never looked back. 

While it may not jump out as an entertainment hotbed, when you scratch the surface, you'll soon realize just how many celebrities have been born in Ohio, and it's a lot. 

Spoiler alert! This story reveals the final artists who were chosen November 28 to advance to The Voice Season 24 live shows.

The Voice Season 24 is ready to go live, as John Legend’s team faced off in the final round of Playoffs on Tuesday, and the EGOT winner picked the three artists who will represent him in the Top 12. Niall Horan, Reba McEntire and Gwen Stefani had all made their cuts in previous episodes — eliminating three of their six remaining team members — and now that we have a complete picture of who will be performing live next week, it seems like the No Doubt singer may be at a disadvantage compared to her colleagues. 

John Legend’s Team Rounds Out Season 24’s Top 12 

The talent on Season 24 has been ridiculously good, with possibly the most Four-Chair Turns in The Voice’s 12-year history. John Legend proved especially adept at winning over artists who had all four superstar coaches fighting to get them on their teams, so it was no surprise in the final round of Playoffs when two of the three singers he chose to advance had earned Four-Chair Turns in the Blind Auditions. 

Lila Forde, who impressed all four mentors in the audition round, wowed them again Tuesday after singing “Angel from Montgomery,” to the point where Niall Horan was begging producers for another Steal. His desperation was unwarranted in the end, as John Legend moved Forde through to live shows.

Mac Royals, another artist who turned all four chairs in the auditions, also advanced to the Top 12 after garnering high praise from his coach in the Playoffs for his rendition of “Untitled (How Does It Feel).”

Azán was the third member of Team Legend to make it through, after opening the night with a cover of “Adorn.” The singer was previously stolen from John Legend by Niall Horan in the Battles, but when the One Direction alum eliminated Azán in the Knockouts, Legend used his Super Save to resurrect her for the Playoffs.

All of The Voice coaches agreed that John Legend’s singers pose quite a threat in the next round of competition, which leads to my concern about Gwen Stefani. 

Gwen Stefani Is The Only Coach Without A Four-Chair Turn Going To Lives 

When Gwen Stefani — or “Gwennie,” as Niall Horan calls her — picked Bias, Tanner Massey and Kara Tenae to represent her in the Top 12, she became the only one of the Season 24 coaches to not advance a Four-Chair Turn. In fact, Team Legend’s Azán is the only other singer left in the competition who did not impress the entire panel in Blind Auditions, as Team Reba and Team Niall both have only Four-Chair Turns remaining.

Now, to clarify, not every winner of The Voice has been a Four-Chair Turn. Of the 23 completed seasons, only 10 of the champions impressed all four celebrity mentors in the audition round, so it’s not like Gwen Stefani’s team doesn’t stand a chance. However, common sense would dictate that artists who win over all members of the eclectic coaching panel might also appeal to a wider range of the voting audience.

Either way, I’m excited to see how it all plays out when The Voice goes live for the first time next week. Tune in at 8 p.m. ET Monday, December 4, on NBC to see the Top 12 performances. Episodes can also be streamed the next day with a Peacock subscription.
