For eight seasons of Two and a Half Men, Jon Cryer and Charlie Sheen entertained viewers as brothers Alan and Charlie Harper, respectively, and earned acclaim for their portrayals. In the years since Sheen’s firing in 2011 and the hit CBS sitcom’s conclusion in 2015, a lot has been said about the state of Sheen and Cryer’s relationship. Both actors have occasionally spoken about where they stand with each other these days. Now, Cryer is getting real about one misconception the Internet has regarding his dynamic with Sheen.

Cryer recently appeared on an episode of The View, during which he spoke about his decision to be interviewed for the documentary aka Charlie Sheen (which is streamable with a Netflix subscription). From there, the Emmy winner was asked about the fact that he hadn’t actually spoken to Sheen in years and whether he’d be open to meeting up. Cryer confirmed that he would be down to with his former co-star if the opportunity arose and, from there, he explained something that gets distorted on social media:

It would seem that Cryer wants to make it known that he holds no animosity towards Sheen at this point in his life. What should be pointed out is that Sheen and Cryer were friends while working on Two and a Half Men, as the latter explained a few years ago. However, that relationship went sour amid Sheen’s viral meltdown in 2011, which also saw him call out Cryer for being a “traitor.” It all seems to be water under the bridge now, based on Cryer’s comments about why he chose to participate in the documentary:

As Jon Cryer mentioned during his recent interview, his longtime co-star was very appreciative of his decision to appear in the Netflix doc. Charlie Sheen actually sent a sentimental message to Cryer to thank him for his “contributions” to the project. The Anger Management star also expressed his hope to “see [Cryer] around the campus” at some point. With that, it’s hard not to wonder whether the Men stars will actually reunite personally or professionally.

Sheen also notably mended fences with Chuck Lorre, the co-creator of Two and a Half Men, and even reunited with him for the since-canceled HBO Max comedy Bookie. It was around that time that Cryer was asked if he’d reunite with Sheen and Lorre for the show. At that point, Cryer said he would have to see where Sheen was at personally but also stated that he wouldn’t “close anything off.”

It appears Cryer has now softened on his stance even more, at least from the perspective of just meeting up with Sheen socially. Whether or not the two co-stars will actually carve out some time to get together is unclear. Still, what’s evident now is that anyone under the impression that Cryer and Sheen still have beef may want to stay away from Internet speculation.

Charlie Sheen has been reflective as of late, and he’s baring all in a documentary, which is a major release on Netflix’s 2025 release schedule. Directed by Andrew Renzi, the two-part aka Charlie Sheen sees the titular star discussing his professional and personal highs and lows, and it features interviews from major stars. Two and a Half Men co-lead, Jon Cryer, is even featured in the doc, and Sheen just revealed the warm message he sent his former co-star after he participated in the project.

For eight years, Charlie Sheen and Jon Cryer entertained the masses as brothers Charlie and Alan Harper on Chuck Lorre’s hit CBS sitcom Two and a Half Men. The two actors’ relationship took a serious turn, however, due to Sheen’s downward spiral in 2011. Sheen has been candid about the damage that’s been done to his relationship with Cryer, expressing regrets for how the situation played out. While discussing his doc and memoir with People, Sheen recalled reaching out to Cryer after watching him in the doc:

Charlie Sheen’s message is major, considering the drama that unfolded in 2011. Amid his issues with alcohol and drugs, Sheen made disparaging remarks against Chuck Lorre. Jon Cryer didn’t publicly comment on the situation, leading to Sheen calling him out and referring to him as a “a turncoat, a traitor, a troll” while speaking to E! News at the time. Sheen later changed his tune, as he spoke highly of Cryer as a collaborator. During his recent interview, Sheen reflected on that tumultuous time in his life and how Cryer was impacted:

Even before appearing in his colleague’s Netflix documentary, Jon Cryer discussed his relationship with Charlie Sheen on a few occasions over the years. Cryer revealed that he and Sheen had a solid working relationship on Two and a Half Men (which is streamable with a Peacock subscription) and hung out occasionally off set. However, they “split off’ a bit due to Sheen’s growing drug habit. Now, Sheen is clean and sober, though, and it sounds like he wouldn’t mind hearing from Cryer:

Jon Cryer previously discussed the possibility of once again working with Charlie Sheen and Chuck Lorre, who mended fences while working on the show Bookie. On the whole, Cryer didn’t seem to totally shut down the possibility of joining forces with his Men collaborators again, but he also said he was unsure as to how Sheen was doing from a personal standpoint. Even if they don’t work together again, as it stands, there still seems to be a solid level of respect between Sheen and Cryer.

Superman & Lois is raising the bar for its final season by including the Man of Steel's infamous enemy, Lex Luthor. The next phase of Lex’s revenge is frightening following the Season 4 premiere and, all the while, Michael Cudlitz is proving himself worthy of taking over the mantle of the DC baddie and adding his name to the short list of those who have played the villain on The CW. Now, he’s getting honest about following in the footsteps of Michael Rosenbaum and Jon Cryer.

Just to provide some context, Michael Rosenbaum portrayed Lex Luthor regularly throughout seven of Smallville’s 10 seasons on The WB/The CW. The actor eventually guest-starred in the series finale of the Tom Welling-led show. Years later, Jon Cryer was brought on as the Arrowverse’s Lex via Supergirl, and it was assumed that the actor would reprise the role for Superman & Lois.

During S&L's second season, its ties to the Arrowverse were retconned, giving the producers a chance to cast a new actor for Luthor. Michael Cudlitz's Lex was introduced towards the end of Season 3, quickly establishing himself as a maniacal force. The Walking Dead alum spoke to TV Insider about carrying on the legacy of the fan-favorite villain and addressed any interactions he's had with his predecessors:

Jon Cryer did indeed praise his successor upon his casting in 2023. It's also great to hear that Michael Cudlitz and Michael Rosenbaum had a great exchange, even if it was before the former was tapped for Superman & Lois. As for anyone who might still have their own reservations about Cudlitz now taking on the role, he shared a balanced summation of the situation:

By the time the Band of Brothers alum was tapped to play Luthor, Supergirl had finished its run. And, with that, Jon Cryer’s time in the rold had ended. Those two details, paired with the fact that S&L takes place in a different universe, means it was understandable for a new actor to be hired. Michael Cudlitz has some big shoes to fill, but it’s already been exciting seeing what he brings to the role and how different it is compared to past interpretations.

I do have to admit, though, that it would have been fun to see Michael Rosenbaum return as Lex (even briefly), especially after Tom Welling and Erica Durance returned as Clark and Lois, respectively, popped up in “Crisis on Infinite Earths” crossover event. The same goes for Jon Cryer, but it has been fun to see someone else portraying Lex. The only non-Kent family member to be in the main cast for S&L Season 4, Michael Cudlitz's Lex is sure to do more damage that add to the character's evil legacy.

While opinion is ultimately subjective, when it comes to the ranking of the Superman movies, it’s generally agreed that 1987’s Superman IV: The Quest for Peace is the worst of the bunch. The final movie to star Christopher Reeve as the Man of Steel was critically panned by professional reviewers and audiences alike, and it only ended up making a little over $30 million worldwide. Following his breakout performance as Duckie the prior year in Pretty in Pink, Jon Cryer starred in The Quest for Peace as Lenny Luthor, and the actor threw some shade at his own performance as Lex Luthor’s nephew while he was going over why this Superman movie turned out

Superman IV: The Quest for Peace came up when Cryer appeared on the podcast Off Duty: An NCIS Rewatch, as he’d played Dr. Cyril Taft, a surgeon who befriended Mark Harmon’s Leroy Jethro Gibbs, in three episodes of the long-running CBS series. During his conversation with hosts Michael Weatherly and Cote de Pablo, talked about it’s fun to “find somebody who loves that piece of art that you thought was the the most embarrassing thing you ever did,” and The Quest for Peace definitely qualifies. First he said:

In 1985, Ilya Salkind, who produced the first three Christopher Reeve Superman movies with his father Alexander, sold the character’s film rights to The Cannon Group, Inc. for $5 million, and the company had considered making Superman V while Superman IV was being put together. However, as Jon Cryer stated, the drying up of funds for the latter movie resulted in the story about Superman clashing with Lex Luthor and Nuclear Man becoming incoherent. As a result, the Superman film series went on hiatus until the release of 2006’s Superman Returns, which served as a spiritual sequel to the first two Christopher Reeve-led movies (and also failed to get a sequel).

Jon Cryer also took some time to highlight his own role in Superman IV: The Quest for Peace being a disappointment, as he’s not a fan of how his performance as Lenny Luthor turned out. In his words:

Fortunately for the actor, he was able to redeem his standing in the Superman community when he was cast as Lex Luthor on Supergirl. Starting in Season 4, his Luthor became a recurring adversary for Melissa Benoist’s Kara Zor-El in the Arrowverse’s Earth-38, which later merged with Earth-1 and Black Lightning’s Earth to become Earth-Prime at the end of the Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover. Alas, Cryer was not brought back to play Luthor for Superman & Lois, which takes place on a separate Earth, but he did praise Michael Cudlitz when The Walking Dead alum was cast as the bald-headed baddie.

When you've been around as long as NCIS has, there are bound to be a ton of big stars who have made cameos or had early roles in their career on the show. Some of the biggest stars of today have popped up on the long-running CBS procedural. Here is a list of quite a few stars who have appeared on NCIS.

Millie Bobby Brown

Before Millie Bobby Brown hit the really big time as Eleven in Stranger Things, she was working steadily from a young age. One of her first roles on American television came in Episode 6 of Season 12 of NCIS back in 2014. She had only had a couple of roles before it. 

Glen Powell

Glen Powell has emerged as one of the biggest stars around. His first huge break came in Top Gun Maverick, and even though that made him an A-lister, he'd been a working actor for decades at that point, going back to roles he had as a kid. An early role in his adulthood came in Season 10 of NCIS, where he played a Marine in a double episode. 

Lily Tomlin

You just never knew who might show up on NCIS. In Season 9 viewers were treated to an appearance by the legendary Lily Tomlin. In true Tomlin style, she plays a quirky but capable grandmother to one of the team members, McGee (Sean Murray). 

Billy Dee Williams

If fans ever wondered why Gibbs (Mark Harmon) had the first name Jethro, they learned why in Season 10. In the episode, the great Billy Dee Williams plays Jethro Moore, a World War II hero, and Gibbs' father's best friend. Moore and the older Gibbs had had a falling out, but by the end, the younger Gibbs had smoothed everything out between them. 

Jamie Lee Curtis

Hollywood legend Jamie Lee Curtis had a bit more than just a cameo. On the show she played Dr. Samantha Ryan over five episodes towards the end of Season 9 plays a possible love interest for Gibbs, but alas it was not meant to be and she is forced to go into hiding, never to be heard from again on the show. 

Terry O'Quinn

In the early days of NCIS, there was another show about to make its network debut: Lost. It turns out that quite a few actors who became known for their roles on Lost also popped up on NCIS around the same time. One is none other than John Locke himself, Terry O'Quinn. O'Quinn plays a Marine Colonel in an episode in the show's first season. 

Danica McKellar

Danica McKellar is best known as Winnie Cooper in The Wonder Years. She also had a great, if somewhat brief, run in The West Wing as Will's sister. On NCIS, she appeared in the Season 2 episode called "Witness," as the titular witness of a crime. In the years since McKellar has found a home in made-for-TV Christmas movies and remains popular with her fans. 

Sean Astin

Sean Astin has carved out a pretty amazing career. His very first role, as Mikey in The Goonies, is one of the most beloved movie characters of all time. Plus he was in that little trilogy known as the Lord of the Rings, something he was nervous about. More recently, he was a key cast member of Stranger Things. In between, he was never not working, including a guest spot in Season 9 of NCIS. 

Taye Diggs

You could say that Taye Diggs got back to his roots in his guest appearance in Season 13. While Diggs plays a Marine on the show, he's a marine with the voice of an angel and at the end of the show, Diggs sings "Hallelujah" with the help of the real-life MusiCorps Wounded Warrior Band. Diggs, of course, got his start on Broadway in musicals like Carousel and Rent. 

Samantha Logan

Samantha Logan is best known for roles in Netflix's 12 Reasons Why and CW's All American, but before both of those roles she played the daughter of a character played by Taye Diggs on NCIS. Logan made her acting debut way back in 2009 when she was just 13 and had a small role in Gossip Girl. 

Bob Newhart

What can we say about the late, great Bob Newhart? His TV career is the stuff of legends with two massively popular shows that bore his name and for a younger generation, he'll always be Will Farrell's character's adoptive father in Elf. He also popped up in NCIS, playing a character very much in his wheelhouse. 

Jon Cryer

Jon Cryer started his career in some classic '80s movies like Pretty In Pink and Morgan Stewart's Coming Home. In the 2000s, he became a TV legend as one of the men in Two and a Half Men. He's since even played Lex Luthor, in the Supergirl TV show. Somehow he also found the time to pop into an episode of NCIS playing a battlefield doctor. 

Drew Carey

He started in stand-up. Then had a hit show named after himself. Then he became a superstar of daytime TV as the host of The Price is Right. Drew Carey has done it all, including showing up for one episode of NCIS as a retired marine. Carey was a marine in real life, so the role is actually perfect.  

Michelle Obama

Okay, okay so technically Michelle Obama isn't an actress, but she did show up in one episode of NCIS while she was First Lady of the United States. She played herself of course, there's no way she could be anyone but herself, right? She welcomed Gibbs and others to the White in an episode called "Homefront."

Abigail Breslin

As one of the youngest Oscar nominees ever, at age 10, you might think that Abigail Breslin just burst on the scene in Little Miss Sunshine. That's not the case though. Breslin was already a working actor with a bunch of credits on her resume, including a supporting role in one episode of NCIS in the Season 2 premiere. 

Sterling K. Brown

The Oscar-nominated and Emmy-winning actor Sterling K. Brown was a veteran of prime-time TV long before his own show, This Is Us, made people cry every week. As he was coming up in Hollywood, he popped up on all kinds of network shows, including one episode of NCIS in 2013.

Dean Norris

Dean Norris is most famous for Breaking Bad, but he's been snagging roles for decades. One role was as a Marine in a very early episode of NCIS. In Episode 12 of Season 1, Norris plays a soldier with a past run-in with Gibbs when Gibbs was still an MP.

Zac Efron

Zac Efron became a huge star thanks to movies like High School Musical and Neighbors, but he was a child long before those movies exploded. One of his early roles came in a Season 3 episode of NCIS where he played a trouble-making kid that he was perfect for. 

Jesse Plemons

A quick glance at Jessie Plemons resume will show that the actor took the long road to fame. While he would eventually be leading men and key supporting characters in some of Hollywood's biggest movies, he started more humbly. One such example is his role as a teenager getting in trouble with the team at NCIS on the show. 

Colin Hanks

Tom Hanks is often called "America's Dad" and so that must make Colin Hanks our collective brother, right? Well, maybe not, but he is a great actor in his own right and he shows it in roles like the one he starred in on NCIS in two episodes at the end of Season 10. 

Sherilyn Fenn

As one of the breakout stars of Twin Peaks in the '90s, Sherilyn Fenn is no stranger to network TV. With over 100 credits to her name on IMDB, she's been on shows all over the dial over the last 30 years or so. One of those credits came in Season 1 of NCIS.

Josh Holloway

Josh Holloway's star shined the brightest when he starred as Sawyer in Lost starting in the fall of 2004. Just a few months before that, he played a local sheriff in Season 1 of NCIS. Since then, he's been a regular in shows like Yellowstone, Colony, and Intelligence. 

Frank Whaley

It's crazy to think that Frank Whaley's career goes all the way back to the '80s. IT's even crazier to realize he's over 60 years old now. The guy hasn't aged a day since Career Opportunities in 1991. Come to think of it, neither has his co-star in that movie, Jennifer Connelly. Connelly, however, hasn't been in an episode of NCIS and Whaley has, playing an escaped convict. 

Jim Rash

Jim Rash is most beloved for playing the hapless dean of the community college in Community, but he's been in tons of over shows. He's been in some quirky shows too, like a voice role in Mike Tyson's Mysteries and as a semi-regular on Reno 911!. He's a writer as well, co-writing the George Clooney movie The Descendants. He also found time to star in an episode of NCIS way back in it's first season. 

Julie Benz

Julie Benz's first big TV role was on Buffy The Vampire Slayer and later its spinoff Angel, playing Darla. Later she was a regular on Hawaii Five-O and Defiance. In Episode 22 of Season 1 of NCIS, Benz played the grieving wife of a soldier. 

Emilie De Ravin

It turns out that NCIS was a good place for cast members of Lost to star right before they all got super famous on the ABC show. Emilie de Ravin is one of those stars who appeared in a Season 1 episode of the show just like her fellow Lost cast members Josh Holloway and Terry O'Quinn. 

Bellamy Young

Before Bellamy Young became a regular on the hit show Scandal, she worked on a lot of shows on TV, including two early episodes of Law & Order, where she played two different roles, something it turns out a lot of actors did. Young played an undercover ATF agent in an episode in Season 1 of NCIS.

Daphne Zuniga

For anyone who grew up in the 1980s, Daphne Zuniga will always be Princess Vesper in Mel Brooks' classic Space Balls and Alison in The Sure Thing alongside John Cusack. In the 2020s she was still turning in great performances, like that of a Navy commander with very questionable motives in a Season 17 episode of NCIS.

Zoe Perry

In The Big Bang Theory, Sheldon's mother was played by the great Laurie Metcalfe. When the spinoff Young Shelton hit the airwaves. Zoe Perry took over the role and played it perfectly. She had a lot of experience at that point, including a guest spot as a police officer in two episodes of NCIS during the show's 13th season.

Ray Wise

Ray Wise is one of the great character actors of his generation. He's most famous for playing Leland Palmer, the father-turned-murderer in Twin Peaks, but his career stretches back to the 1960s. On NCIS he plays the father of a guy who thinks he's a superhero, which as you can imagine, he has no patience for in Episode 15 of Season 9. 

Tyler Ritter

Actor Tyler Ritter, who is the son of the beloved John Ritter, seems to pop up all over the place. He's played a detective in Arrow, he was in Homecoming, and he played  Abby Sciuto's (Pauley Perrette) brother Luca in an NCIS crossover event with NCIS: New Orleans when the spinoff began. 

Don Lake

You might not know his name, but you know his face, especially if you are a fan of the Christopher Quest-verse. Don Lake was a cast member in Waiting for Guffman, Best In Show, A Mighty Wind, For Your Consideration, and even Mascots. Usually, he plays the straight man, but that doesn't mean he's not hilarious. Even in serious roles, like his in a Season 17 episode of NCIS, you can't help but crack a smile when he's on screen. 

Seemingly ever since the very second that James Gunn was announced to be co-running the revamped DCU along with Peter Safran, comic fans have inundated him with questions about his upcoming Superman film, the narrative continuity of Peacemaker, and myriad other upcoming DC movies, shows and characters. One of the biggest rumors he’s constantly debunking is that the DCU’s Caped Crusader has been cast. Making things more amusingly complicated? Former Lex Luthor actor Jon Cryer.

Perhaps best known for his fan-favorite work in Pretty in Pink and Two and a Half Men, Jon Cryer entered the supervillain fray by portraying Superman’s greatest foe on the Arrowverse’s Supergirl, while also appearing on other series as part of the “Crisis on Infinite Earths” crossover event. (Funnily enough, that was a franchise that also never cast a proper Batman.) The actor was more amusingly snarky than malicious when poking fun at Gunn’s latest rumor denial on Threads, where he joked about being the not-so-secret new Dark Knight. In his words:

All the Bruce Wayne-level detectives out there likely picked up on the fact that Jon Cryer called the beverage spot Jamba Juice instead of its current shortened moniker Jamba, so if he actually IS the DCU’s Batman, he’s clearly from an alternate “Elseworlds” timeline where the company never changed its name. That’s definitely what the case is, and it’s not anything far simpler.

More sincerely, I do love that Cryer accessed the situation, was aware that James Gunn was pushing back against Batman rumors, and instead of either helping or offering sympathy, he doubled down and made himself part of the casting rumor mill. Granted, I doubt anyone would truly believe the Superman IV actor is the next in line to don the cape and cowl, but the fact that he created that much more of a mess for Gunn to wade through is a rather Joker-esque way to troll the filmmaker.

While he was probably amused by Cryer’s comment, James Gunn didn’t exactly write a treatise on the benefits of humor with his response, which amounted to:

Speaking of ze Joker, I voiced some of my biggest hopes for DCU Joker casting whenever Gunn honored the comic book antagonist’s 80th anniversary, though we may be waiting a really long time before the Clown Prince makes his arrival in the DCU, given how many other versions there are at this point. (Gunn has already confirmed Matt Reeves’ The Batman and its fictional universe are separate from DCU continuity.) But Jon Cryer would be an interesting choice for the cackling madman now that I think about it.

The Brave and the Bold will likely be the first time fans will see the DCU's Batman, barring any secret cameos built into Superman. But it's not entirely clear if and when that project will be moving forward, so there's really no realistic implication for when we'll learn more about who will be playing Bruce Wayne and his vigilante alter ego.

Fans can catch Jon Cryer's bald and bearded Lex Luthor with a Netflix subscription, as that's where the bulk of the Arrowverse shows are currently streaming. And in the meantime, head to our 2024 movie release schedule while pining away for Superman's release in July 2025.

Spoilers ahead for the Season 1 finale of Extended Family on NBC, called "The Consequences of Considering the Consequences."

Extended Family brought sitcom icons Jon Cryer and Donald Faison back to network TV in the 2024 TV schedule, although their new characters definitely aren't carbon copies of who they played on Two and a Half Men and Scrubs, respectively. The first season finale seemed like it could blow up the premise entirely, but luckily, the formula is still in place for Season 2... that is, assuming there is a Season 2!

The show isn't renewed at the time of writing, so the time is right to look back at the story of the behind-the-scenes moves changes way back before Extended Family even premiered that resulted in Jon Cryer playing a different character than originally intended.

The Future Of Extended Family

Extended Family centers on former spouses Jim (Jon Cryer) and Julia (Abigail Spencer), who decide to make the most of their amicable divorce by continuing to raise their two kids in one home while taking turns on which parent lives with them. Trey (Donald Faison) was a game-changer as Julia's fiancé, who also happens to be the owner of the Boston Celtics. It certainly has a premise unlike any other on TV, but will it last beyond one season?

The sitcom has been slotted between Night Court (which also has yet to be renewed) and The Voice this year, which is a pretty enviable place in primetime. Between that and casting two big names in the sitcom sphere, Extended Family had a recipe for success from its premiere. Abigail Spencer, whose TV experience was primarily in drama prior to this show, keeps up with Cryer and Faison in the comedy.

Yet NBC still has not announced whether or not there's a future for the show, which would have been very different if not for the behind-the-scenes changes that Cryer and creator Mike O'Malley described to CinemaBlend.

Jon Cryer And Mike O'Malley Reveal The BTS Changes

I spoke with the Extended Family team at SCAD TVfest in Atlanta, with Jon Cryer revealing the NBC sitcom he almost joined before landing Two and a Half Men and Donald Faison getting honest about the live studio audience that wasn't a factor on Scrubs. When I asked creator/executive producer Mike O'Malley if the role of Jim was written for Jon Cryer, he explained:

Despite Jon Cryer as a natural fit to lead a sitcom from his years on Two and a Half Men and seemingly a pretty natural fit for Extended Family, the lead role in the new show wasn't written specifically for him. According to O'Malley, writing towards Cryer as Jim started early on in the process. That wasn't the only change from the original vision for the show, as Cryer shared that the Extended Family team initially wanted him for a different role. He said:

Mike O'Malley went on to say that Cryer turned out to be "great at it" by bringing an "everyman" quality that was needed for Jim. Having watched every episode of Extended Family when I spoke with the duo on the SCAD TVfest red carpet, I noted that it was hard to imagine Cryer and Donald Faison switching roles. They explained what would have been different:

Mike O'Malley: "Well, for the character of Trip, one of the things that we were thinking about is... he was more of a tech guy, sort of almost like a Mark Zuckerberg character."

Jon Cryer: "A little bit awkward, a little bit socially unsure of himself."

It sounds like Jon Cryer's Trip would have been wealthy like Donald Faison's Trey is, but I definitely wouldn't describe the Celtics owner as a "Mark Zuckerberg character." All in all, it seems like Extended Family made changes for the best, since I can't imagine anybody other than Faison performing Trey's improvised love song in the finale. The star and the creator went on to describe what Cryer brought to the finished product of Jim:

Jon Cryer: "He's very comfortable with his flaws, which is a character I have not gotten to play in so long, and I love that about him."

Mike O'Malley: "And comfortable in pointing out other people's flaws as well! [laughs] And very, very sure of himself. That's what we've been writing towards as we've gone on."

So, will the Extended Family team have the opportunity to keep writing for Jon Cryer as Jim? For now, we can only wait for word from NBC about whether or not the sitcom will be renewed for Season 2. Jon Cryer was already a big name in TV comedy before he arrived on NBC in the 2024 TV schedule as the star of Extended Family, thanks to twelve seasons of Two and a Half Men opposite Charlie Sheen. Extended Family was a return to a multi-cam sitcom for the actor, and he spoke with CinemaBlend about coming back to a live studio audience... and how he almost joined a different NBC sitcom even before Two and a Half Men.

The Extended Family star as well as creator Mike O'Malley spoke with CinemaBlend on the red carpet of SCAD TVfest in Atlanta. Given that Cryer has worked on shows ranging from NCIS to Supergirl (as legendary villain Lex Luthor) in recent years, I asked the actor what it was like for him to return to a live studio audience for the first time since Two and a Half Men ended in 2015. He shared:

Few people have as much sitcom experience as Jon Cryer, and he only had good things to say about returning to the live studio audience format for Extended Family. The new show also stars Donald Faison, who came with plenty of sitcom experience himself thanks to Scrubs, as well as Grey's Anatomy alum Abigail Spencer.

For Extended Family, Cryer and Spencer star as Jim and Julia Kearney, who are raising their kids in the wake of an amicable divorce. Trey Taylor (Faison) is in the mix as Julia's new fiancé, who also happens to be the owner of the Boston Celtics.

The sitcom marks Cryer's sitcom arrival on NBC after more than a decade of comedy on CBS, and it turns out that there's more to the story than simple chance that he hadn't appeared on the network before. He explained:

Apparently, NBC was not looking to hire Jon Cryer for any kind of job back in the day! Caroline in the City was a multi-cam sitcom starring Lea Thompson, and it ran for four seasons and nearly 100 episodes from 1995-1999. Given that Two and a Half Men didn't launch until 2003, could the course of his career have veered in a different direction if he'd been cast on Caroline in the City, even if just for a few episodes?

We'll never know, but as the actor said, it's "all water under the bridge now," and he's the leading man of an NBC sitcom. It's a funny piece of trivia, however, and I had to pitch Jon Cryer and Mike O'Malley on the idea of an arc about Jim irrationally hating Caroline in the City. The Extended Family duo laughed and responded:

• Jon Cryer: "Jim just has this weird thing! It’s like every time and really random."
• Mike O'Malley: "We should be so lucky that we go as long as Caroline in the City."

While the four seasons of Caroline in the City aren't nearly as long as Cryer's Two and a Half Men with twelve seasons or even Mike O'Malley's Yes, Dear with six seasons, TV is a competitive business, and Extended Family isn't even guaranteed a second season at this point. It's not hard to see O'Malley's point about running as long as Caroline in the City!

Though it’s been a while since they last worked together, Jon Cryer and Charlie Sheen remain synonymous for their work on Two and a Half Men. Sheen and Cryer – who played siblings Charlie and Alan Harper, respectively – had great chemistry. And, for eight years, that helped propel their sitcom to success. That changed, however, when she experienced a string of personal issues and was ultimately fired from the show. Cryer has more recently shared his recollections of working with his former co-star. On that note, he recalled how he and Sheen got along during their time on the comedy and explained how their work dynamics changed when he faced his addiction struggles.

Jon Cryer discussed his over five-decade career when he appeared as a guest on the WTF with Marc Maron podcast. While strolling down memory lane, Cryer eventually talked to the eponymous host about his time on the hit CBS series (which is streamable with a Peacock subscription). The 58-year-old actor recalled just how “badly” CBS wanted Charlie Sheen for the show due to his work on the later seasons of Spin City. It sounds like the two co-stars got along relatively well. To that point, Cryer, who (like his character) was going through a divorce when the show started, recalled an on-brand request Sheen made him at the time:

That’s definitely an ironic offer if there ever was one. However, it’s hard to argue that it was generous given the position the actor was in at the time. The Pretty in Pink actor went on to explain that he and Charlie Sheen weren’t massively close off camera but did hang out here and there. They even bonded over a specific real-life experience at one point. However, it would seem that the relationship eventually changed once drugs came into the picture:

It was during Season 8 that Charlie Sheen began to make headlines, as he was reportedly partying with porn stars and prostitutes and using cocaine. Jon Cryer can still remember the changes in his co-star’s behavior at the time. And, during his chat with Marc Maron, he provided some additional details regarding the events surrounding Sheen’s exit:

It was at that time that Charlie Sheen made disparaging remarks about TAAHM co-creator Chuck Lorre as well as Jon Cryer, who he referred to as a “traitor” and a troll. (Though he retracted his comments about Cryer shortly after making them.) More recently, Sheen has been candid about that period in his life, noting that “everything turned to shit.” However, he and Lorre ended their feud and have since reunited for the single-camera comedy Bookie (which can be streamed with a Max subscription). 

As for the Superman IV alum, he’s not quite sure about reuniting with Charlie Sheen but wouldn’t “close anything off.” While appearing on The View (as shared on YouTube), he said that while he’s hesitant to be in long-term “business” with Sheen again, a “one-off” collaboration could happen. We’ll have to wait and see if that actually happens, but I’m sure fans would love for the two actors to work together again and re-establish their relationship.

Not all of the best movies from the 1980s have stood the test of time quite like other nostalgic favorites have. There are even plenty of ‘80s movies with A-list casts that just don’t get talked about much more these days. Some Kind of Wonderful (1987)

The first John Hughes movies that come to mind are probably The Breakfast Club or Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, while Some Kind of Wonderful — which Hughes penned and Howard Deutch directed — is more likely an afterthought. The drama stars Eric Stoltz as a young man whose date with Amanda (Lea Thompson) sparks conflict with her ex (played by Craig Sheffer) and his best friend (played by Mary Stuart Masterson).

Brewster's Millions (1985)

Richard Pryor is better known for his Gene Wilder collaborations than for Brewster’s Millions — a comedy that puts him front and center. Director Walter Hill’s adaptation of George Barr McCutcheon’s novel (the second, following a 1945 edition) stars the late comic as a man tasked with spending millions of dollars within 30 days, but without keeping a single asset, in order to inherit an enormous fortune.

Hiding Out (1987)

Arguably, the role that made Emmy-winning Two and a Half Men Star Jon Cryer a star was his supporting role in Pretty in Pink, but he also had a noteworthy leading part that is rarely (if not ever) noted today. In director Bob Giraldi’s Hiding Out, he plays a stockbroker posing as a high school student after becoming targeted by the mob.

The Legend Of Billie Jean (1985)

Helen Slater’s most famous ‘80s movie role is probably the title hero of one of the most ill-received DC movies, 1984’s Supergirl. A film the actor might prefer to be better remembered for is The Legend of Billie Jean, in which she plays a teen outlaw on the run.

Lady In White (1988)

Among the more iconic movies set on or around Halloween, Lady in White is one that deserves more attention. Set in 1962, the clever, spooky thriller stars Lukas Haas as a young boy who becomes embroiled in the mystery of a murdered girl after meeting her ghost.

My Science Project (1985)

Perhaps if the sort-of time travel comedy My Science Project had not come out in the same year as, arguably, the greatest time travel movie of all time, Back to the Future, it might have a bigger fanbase. Also starring Fisher Stevens and Dennis Hopper, Christine’s John Stockwell this film leads as a slacker senior whose desperation to pass science class leads him to find a strange device with dangerous, otherworldly abilities. 

Night Shift (1982)

Despite being one of the best Michael Keaton movies, Night Shift has become one of the actor’s more obscure films, sent to the wayside by hits like Beetlejuice and the Batman movies. However, director Ron Howard’s screwball comedy, starring Keaton and Henry Winkler as morgue attendants helping ladies of the night secure a safer work environment, should be noted as the film that first helped the Oscar nominee become a star.

The Last Starfighter (1984)

Most of the best video game movies do not simply adapt a pre-existing title, but expand on the concept of interactive media in imaginative and exciting ways, just like in The Last Starfighter. From director Nick Castle, the vastly underrated sci-fi flick stars Lance Guest as a poor teen whose high score on an arcade game leads to his recruitment in a real intergalactic war.

1969 (1988)

Today, we know 24’s Kiefer Sutherland and the MCU’s Robert Downey Jr. best as action stars, which is a far cry from their roles in 1969. Winona Ryder and Bruce Dern also star in this much-forgotten anti-violence parable set around the Vietnam War.

After Hours (1985)

One might not expect to see a riotous, comedic romp anywhere on Martin Scorsese’s resume, but such a film does exist. To be fair, the plot of After Hours — involving a mild-mannered word processor (played by Griffin Dunne) embroiled in a series of increasingly dangerous circumstances over one night in New York — does seem like a Scorsese film on paper.

Innerspace (1987)

One of director Joe Dante’s most underrated and inventive films is Innerspace, which stars Dennis Quaid as a pilot testing a top-secret miniaturization technology who is accidentally injected into the body of a hypochondriac. Said man is played by Martin Short, who delivers some of his most hilarious manic energy in his dazzling sci-fi adventure which also stars Meg Ryan.

Peggy Sue Got Married (1986)

People do not express much nostalgia these days for Francis Ford Coppola’s fantasy teen comedy, Peggy Sue Got Married. Perhaps that is because the bulk of the story takes place in the 1960s, which Kathleen Turner’s title character is magically transported back to after fainting at her high school reunion.

Near Dark (1987)

How Near Dark — which fuses traditional vampire lore with an old-school Western tone in a modern setting — is not a more beloved horror classic just does not make sense. At least director Kathryn Bigelow went on to receive better recognition as the first woman to win the Best Director Oscar for The Hurt Locker.

River's Edge (1986)

One of the darkest films from the early years of both Keanu Reeves and Crispin Glover’s careers is River’s Edge. Dennis Hopper and Daniel Roebuck also star in this unsettling crime thriller about the life-changing effect that a murder has on the teenage killer and his friends.

Repo Man (1984)

Repo Man may be a sci-fi flick with more than 90% on Rotten Tomatoes, but it gets less attention these days than, say, 2008’s Repo! The Genetic Opera or Repo Men from 2010. Alex Cox’s cult thriller stars Emilio Estevez as a middle-class punk and Harry Dean Stanton as his mentor who chases after a Chevy Malibu carrying something not of this Earth.

One Crazy Summer (1986)

John Cusack stars in many of the most timelessly popular romantic, coming-of-age comedies of the 1980s, and was also in One Crazy Summer. Also starring Demi Moore and Bobcat Goldthwait, this funny summer comedy about the amusing adventures a young cartoonist embarks on when crossing paths with an aspiring singer is not quite the classic it could have been.

I'm Gonna Git You Sucka (1988)

For years, the Wayans Brothers brought us some of the sharpest movie spoofs around and one of the earliest examples is I’m Gonna Git You Sucka. Writer, director, and star Keenen Ivory Wayans sends up the Blaxploitation genre with this action-packed, laugh-a-minute comedy that has not quite stood the test of time like Don’t Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood or the original Scary Movie.

Just One Of The Guys (1985)

Before there was She’s the Man, there was Just One of the Guys. However, the 2006 Amanda Bynes-led rom-com is the more well-known film about a young woman posing as a male than this one starring Valley Girl’s Joyce Hyser.

The Hidden (1987)

Why is it that unique fusions of disparate genres like detective noir and sci-fi horror rarely get the attention they deserve? A prime example of this is the unjustly overlooked The Hidden, which stars Kyle MacLachlan and Michael Nouri as a detective and an FBI agent pursuing an alien parasite committing various crimes as the human hosts it possesses.

Knightriders (1981)

To those who only know George A. Romero for his many classic zombie movies, we point you in the direction of Knightriders. The filmmaker writes and directs this grounded drama following a group of motorcycle-riding medieval reenactment performers and without a single reanimated corpse in sight.

Enemy Mine (1985)

One of the most heartwarming instances of enemies becoming friends in the ‘80s occurs in Wolfgang Peterson’s Enemy Mine. The futuristic sci-fi thriller stars Dennis Quaid as a human and Louis Gossett Jr. as an alien who are forced to put their respective species’ war with one another behind them when they become stranded on a deserted planet together.

My Bodyguard (1980)

Chris Makepeace’s Clifford lives every bullied teen’s dream to have someone bigger and stronger on their side in My Bodyguard. Despite its modern-day obscurity, the coming-of-age dramedy marked the film debut of several well-known stars — including Adam Baldwin, Joan Cusack, and Jennifer Beals.

Real Genius (1985)

Later, more serious roles in movies like Top Gun, The Doors, and Batman Forever have caused many to forget just how comedically talented Val Kilmer is. He gives one of his funniest performances in Real Genius as a fun-loving engineering student who discovers he and his younger roommate (played by Gabriel Jarret) have unwittingly been tasked to build a military-grade weapon. 

The Philadelphia Experiment (1984)

One of the more underrated ‘80s time travel movies is The Philadelphia Experiment, which is inspired by the alleged disappearance of a destroyer escort ship in the early 1940s. The film — which also spawned a 1993 sequel — follows two WWII-era sailors accidentally transported decades forward.

The Dream Team (1989)

The same year when Michael Keaton made his debut as Batman, he led a funny crime thriller called The Dream Team. He, Christopher Lloyd, Peter Boyle, and Stephen Furst play four psychiatric patients on a day trip to New York City when their chaperone is targeted for murder.

The Serpent And The Rainbow (1988)

Arguably director Wes Craven’s most underrated film is The Serpent and the Rainbow, which is inspired by real-life anthropological researcher Wade Davis’ book of the same name. What also makes the Bill Pullman-led horror flick one of the more comparatively realistic zombie movies is its depiction of voodoo, which the original definition of the word “zombie” derives from.

Return To Oz (1985)

People who still have nightmares about Margaret Hamilton's performance as The Wicked Witch of the West in 1937's The Wizard of Oz might not have the courage to watch Disney's follow-up. A 10-year-old Fairuza Balk (of later The Craft fame) plays Dorothy in Return to Oz, which is noted by those who do remember it as one of the most visually traumatizing "kids movies" of the '80s or any decade.

Author! Author! (1982)

With how few family dramedies there are on Al Pacino’s resume, it is a shame he does not get more love for Author! Author! The Academy Award-winning legend stars as a playwright trying to balance the opening of his latest Broadway show with raising his stepchildren.

Miracle Mile (1988)

Following his scene-stealing role as Goose in Top Gun and years before he starred in ER, Anthony Edwards played the lead of Miracle Mile. Writer and director Steve De Jarnatt’s overlooked action flick follows a young man on a race against time after he becomes aware of an impending nuclear attack. 

The Night Before (1988)

Not to be confused with a raunchy holiday comedy movie from 2015 starring Seth Rogen, The Night Before is a coming-of-age rom-com with a dark mystery twist that predates The Hangover by a couple of decades. It stars Keanu Reeves as a teen whose struggle to find his missing date (played by Lori Loughlin) in L.A. is worsened by his inability to remember what happened on the way to prom.

Johnny Be Good (1988)

One of the lesser-known collaborations of Anthony Michael Hall and Robert Downey Jr. (including their shared one-season SNL stint) is Johnny Be Good, which also stars Paul Gleason and a young Uma Thurman. Hall plays the title role of this high school comedy about a football player struggling to decide which of the many college offers he receives would be best for him.

Haunted Honeymoon (1986)

Before her untimely death, SNL legend Gilda Radner starred in several films with her real-life husband, Gene Wilder. One of the last and most unfortunately overlooked is a fun horror-comedy called Haunted Honeymoon, in which the couple play newlyweds trying to cure the husband’s fears by staying in a creepy estate.

You may think you know ‘80s cinema, but your expertise will not be complete until you give these flick a try, or even revisit them for the first time in too long.

Duckie Dale may not have gotten the girl in the end of Pretty in Pink —despite that controversial original ending—but actor Jon Cryer still looks up to his famous character. One of the best '80s movies, the cult-classic teen drama from the late, great John Hughes stars Cryer as the besotted best friend of Molly Ringwald's Andie Walsh, who is a bit too taken by preppy popular boy Blane McDonnagh (Andrew McCarthy) to reciprocate her pal Duckie's feelings (even after that epic Otis Redding lip sync). 

We already knew how much Cryer appreciated his breakout Brat Pack role—he once dressed like Duckie in a Halloween episode of Two and a Half Men—but in a recent interview with People, the actor revealed that Duckie Dale was a "very aspirational" character for him. According to Cryer, he wished he had the confidence to live "life out loud" the way Duckie did, and that's not all. He said:

He also revealed that he based the beloved character off "several of [his] friends growing up," including a friend named Artie who had a "ridiculous pompadour," a similar hairstyle to what Cryer sports in the Hughes flick. He shared:

The Lex Luther actor went on to say he felt like "an outsider" during his own high school years, but that very otherness is why he thinks Pretty in Pink and Duckie's relatability have endured in the nearly four decades since the film's release:

Joining Cryer's long list of characters is Jim Kearney, the lead of the new NBC sitcom Extended Family, which follows a couple trying to navigate an amicable divorce and continuing to raise their kids at the family home. You can watch him in his newest role with episodes of Extended Family on Tuesdays at 8:30 p.m. ET on NBC, following Night Court. 

Still, even though Jon Cryer has had and continues to have plenty of work in the decades since Pretty in Pink, it's clear that Duckie Dale remains a favorite both to audiences and the actor himself. 

Few shows come close to matching the success of CBS’ Two and a Half Men. Chuck Lorre and Lee Aronsohn’s raunchy and hilarious multi-cam romp (which is streamable for Peacock subscribers) brought in strong ratings during its 12-season run. Those first eight years, however, were particularly fruitful due to the comedic prowess of co-leads Jon Cryer and Charlie Sheen. That working relationship dissipated in dramatic fashion in 2011, when Sheen fired and around the time made disparaging remarks about Lorre and Cryer. Sheen and Lorre have since made amends and are now working on the new comedy Bookie. Now, the question is whether Cryer would be willing to reunite with them on the show and, when asked about that, he shared thoughts. 

Few would probably deny that the aforementioned trio made some serious strides together within the world of TV. Still, it goes without saying that there’s a lot of baggage there, given the drama that transpired. Jon Cryer is currently promoting his new sitcom, Extended Family, which is set to debut on NBC. While chatting with TVLine, the veteran actor was asked how open he’d be to collaborating with his fellow Men alums on a future season of Bookie. While the notion does sound somewhat appealing to him, Cryer seems to have a concern: 

The chain of events surrounding Charlie Sheen’s exit from Men coincided with the show’s eighth season, which aired during the 2010 to 2011 broadcast season. In the fall of ‘10, Sheen made headlines for partying with porn stars and prostitutes and eventually entered rehab in ‘11, prompting the producers to put the show on hiatus. At that time, the actor began criticizing Chuck Lorre during interviews and shared sentiments that were largely deemed antisemitic. CBS and Warner Bros. Television eventually ousted Sheen for his conduct. Shortly after, he took a shot at Jon Cryer, calling him a “turncoat, a traitor, a troll.”

With all of that in mind, one can honestly understand why the Pretty in Pink alum would express some hesitation over possibly working with his former co-star again. But it also appears he’s not shutting the door on the idea entirely: 

Based on what’s been reported as of late, Charlie Sheen is in a good place and enjoyed working with Chuck Lorre again. Lorre spoke about the end of their feud, which happened after he reached out to the actor about playing a fictional version of himself on Bookie. Sheen accepted but had one request, which was that his TV counterpart was doing drugs. Lorre agreed and, as a whole, he has referred to the process of working with Sheen again and making amends as “healing.” What’s even sweeter is that Lorre orchestrated a Two and a Half Men reunion on the new show by tapping Angus T. Jones for a cameo.

Considering just how well Charlie Sheen and Jon Cryer played off each other, it would be great to see that happen again in some form or fashion. Cryer’s new show, on which he plays a divorced dad dealing with his ex’s new romance, is likely to keep him busy for the immediate future. Hopefully, though, should he feel comfortable enough, he’ll make some more comedy magic with Sheen and Chuck Lorrre.

The “will they, won’t they” trope refers to when a TV show traces the blossoming romance of two central characters — such as Jim and Pam from the U.S. version of The Office cast or the two original lead Cheers characters, Sam and Diane. But, what about the characters who led a major storyline that involved the end of their relationship and, more specifically, the end of a marriage? We thought we would give some of the most iconic divorced TV characters their due by highlighting our favorites below.

Ross Gellar (Friends)

The ultimate TV divorcee — in sitcoms, at least — is easily Ross Gellar (David Schwimmer), who is splitting from his first wife, Carol, in the Friends pilot. In Season 4, his marriage to Emily Waltham (Helen Baxendale) is ruined during the ceremony because of his oft-debated history with Rachel (Jennifer Aniston), who later becomes his third wife by a drunken mistake in Vegas. 

Joyce Byers (Stranger Things)

Before Joyce Byers (Winona Ryder) and the rest of the Stranger Things cast faced off against Demagorgons and other creatures, she had another monster to contend with: her husband. The selfish, deceitful, and abusive Lonnie (Ross Partridge) did not even care about the disappearance of his own son, Will (Noah Schnapp), in Season 1 of the Netflix sci-fi drama and blamed Joyce, who eventually — and quite thankfully — found romance with longtime friend, Jim Hopper (David Harbour).

Don Draper (Mad Men)

The seemingly picture-perfect union of Don Draper and Betty Hofstadt (Mad Men cast members Jon Hamm and January Jones) came to an end by the AMC period drama’s fourth season after unsuccessful attempts to reconcile amid each other’s affairs. However, it was not the ad executive’s last or even first marriage. Previously, his union with Anna Draper (Melinda Page Hamilton) — widow of the man whose identity he stole — was annulled and he and his third wife, Megan Calvet (Jessica Pare), began to grow apart in the penultimate season.

Reba Hart (Reba)

One of the best country music singers-turned-actors, Reba McEntire, became sitcom royalty with her Golden Globe-nominated performance as the lead of her own comedy on The WB (and, later, The CW). Lasting six seasons, Reba was the story of a Southern single mother of three struggling to maintain a relationship with her ex-husband (played by Christopher Rich) and the woman he left her for (Melissa Peterman). Luckily, as the theme song says, she’s a survivor.

Seong Gi-hun (Squid Game)

In one of the best Netflix TV shows, Squid Game, the central protagonist Seong Gi-hun (Emmy winner Lee Jung-jae) chooses to leave for the deadly tournament after surviving the first round. But, after learning that his daughter is about to move to the United States with his ex-wife and her new husband, which is what convenes him to reenter the games. However, in the Season 1 finale, he ditches his chance to reconnect with his daughter in favor of taking down the tournament, which we will see playing when Season 2 of the South Korean hit premieres.

Frasier Crane (Cheers, Frasier)

On Cheers, Frasier Crane (Kelsey Grammer) meets and eventually weds fellow psychiatrist, Lilith (Bebe Neuwirth). After she left him for another man before later pleading reconciliation, the long-running series ended with their marriage facing an uncertain fate. When Frasier’s self-titled spin-off premiered, it was revealed that he had left for good before packing up for Seattle, where they would sometimes reunite, including on Paramount+’s revival series in 2023.

Toby Flenderson (The Office)

The HR representative at Dunder-Mifflin’s Scranton branch, Toby Flenderson (The Office writer Paul Lieberstein), is divorced — a fact his self-described enemy, branch manager Michael Scott (Steve Carell), often uses to taunt him. Toby and his ex-wife had a daughter named Sasha (Delaney Ruth Farrell), whom we meet in one of the most cringe-worthy episodes of The Office, “Take Your Daughter to Work Day.”

Dorothy Zbornak (The Golden Girls)

What led Dorothy Zbornak (Bea Arthur) to move in with her mother, Sophia (Estelle Getty), Blanche (Rue McClanahan), and Rose (Betty White) is her split from Stan (Herb Edelman). Nonetheless, Dorothy’s ex-husband would remain a recurring staple of The Golden Girls, and the former spouses’ lasting, yet imperfect, affection for one another made for a uniquely charming pair.

Bobby And Pam Ewing (Dallas)

The only thing as captivating as the mystery of who shot J.R. Ewing (Larry Hagman) on Dallas was the marriage of Bobby Ewing (Patrick Duffy) to Pamela (Victoria Principal), who comes from the rival Barnes family. The Romeo and Juliet-style romance which turned many against them was initially the central focus of the primetime soap (one of the most popular TV shows of its time), until the couple ended up turning against each other.

Kirk And Luann Van Houten (The Simpsons)

In Season 3 of The Simpsons, we meet Milhouse’s parents, Kirk (Hank Azaria) — one of the most popular Simpsons characters to enter the series late — and Luann Van Houten (Maggie Roswell). In Season 8 — after a disastrous game of Pictionary at Homer and Marge’s dinner party — the couple called it quits and Kirk’s many efforts to salvage their union — including penning a song called “Can I Borrow a Feeling” — could not redeem it, unfortunately.

Grace Adler (Will & Grace)

Interior designer Grace Adler (Will & Grace cast member Debra Messing) almost got married in the pilot before finally finding her match in Dr. Leo Marcus (Harry Connick, Jr.), until his one-night-stand on a Cambodian Doctors Without Borders assignment ruined things. While they managed to work things out, remarry, and raise their daughter together in the finale, the 2017 revival series (which ignores the previous series’ ender) reveals that Grace, unable to trust Leo for his past mistake, left him again.

Michael And Jane Mancini (Melrose Place)

At the beginning of Melrose Place, the heart and soul of the Beverly Hills, 90210 spin-off was surgeon Michael (Thomas Calabro) and fashion designer Jane Mancini (Josie Bissett). However, by Season 2, Michael’s suddenly villainous transformation — complete with a terrible attitude and adulterous habits — saw the end of the marriage.

Matt Foley (Saturday Night Live)

When Chris Farley’s most famous SNL character, Matt Foley, made his SNL debut — in a beloved sketch written by Bob Odenkirk — the motivational speaker provided three important facts about his life: he is 35, divorced, and lives in a van down by the river. In subsequent editions of the bit, we learn he has actually been married “thrice” and even winds up in jail for failing to pay alimony at one point.

Cleveland Brown (Family Guy)

One of the funniest Family Guy characters, Cleveland Brown (Arif Zahir, who replaced Mike Henry) was married to Loretta (Alex Borstein) until she was caught cheating with Quagmire (Seth MacFarlane). When he got his own spin-off, The Cleveland Show, he reunited with his childhood friend and secret crush, Donna Tubbs (Sanaa Lathan), and his dreams came true when they married.

Larry David (Curb Your Enthusiasm)

After years of putting up with the neurotic and selfish behavior of her husband, Larry David (creator Larry David), the final straw for Cheryl (Cheryl Hines) came late in Curb Your Enthusiasm’s sixth season when he was too preoccupied with a TiVo installer to comfort her during a turbulent flight over the phone. Larry would later attempt a few schemes to win her back, including casting her as the wife of a character he inspired, George Costanza (Jason Alexander), for an in-show Seinfeld cast reunion special. 

Alan Harper (Two And A Half Men)

Initially, the premise of the long-running CBS sitcom, Two and a Half Men, saw Charlie Harper (Charlie Sheen) reluctantly take in his brother, Alan (Jon Cryer), and nephew, Jake (Angus T. Jones), after Alan’s wife, Judith (Marin Hinkle) kicks him out. Alan later meets and marries the young, ditzy Kandi (April Bowlby) in an impromptu ceremony, but she splits with him because of — as it is eventually revealed — their differing opinions on having children… and his ear, nose, and chest hair.

Selina Meyer (Veep)

For, just about, the entire duration of their 12-year marriage, Andrew Meyer (David Pasquesi) cheated on his wife, Selina (Emmy winner Julia Louis-Dreyfus) almost constantly. Still, upon their reunion on Veep — a show Parks and Rec fans will love —  the attraction between them remains strong, which results in some increasingly ridiculous hijinks behind the scenes of Selina’s political career.

Lucious And Cookie Lyon (Empire)

We learn at the beginning of Empire that Lucious Lyon (Terrence Howard) divorced Cookie (Taraji P. Henson) while she was still in prison — kicking off a volatile personal and professional relationship between the music industry magnates upon her release. While they would remarry in Season 4, the sixth and final season began with them separated before, eventually, finalizing their second split.

Maura And Shelly Pfefferman (Transparent)

At the beginning of Amazon’s Emmy-winning dramedy, Transparent, Maura Pfefferman (Jeffrey Tambor) — then known as “Morton” — revealed to her wife, Shelley (Judith Light) that she was transgender, Shelley could not accept this news and opted to split up. Eventually, however, despite a brief chance at rekindling their romance, they prove to be much stronger friends.

Jules Cobb (Cougar Town)

After the series finale, Friends cast member Courteney Cox’s most successful follow-up was an ABC (later TBS) original sitcom called Cougar Town. She played Jules Cobb: a single, forty-something mother to Travis (Dan Byrd) — whom she had with ex-husband, Bobby (Brian Van Holt) — who eventually remarries when she falls for her neighbor, Grayson Ellis (Josh Hopkins).

Lou Grant (The Mary Tyler Moore Show)

One of the first TV characters depicted as a divorcé was Lou Grant, portrayed by the late Ed Asner to multi-Emmy-winning acclaim on The Mary Tyler Moore and on his more dramatic self-titled spin-off. The TV news producer’s marriage to Edie (Priscilla Morrill) ends roughly halfway through the series, but they remain in touch and Lou even attends Edie’s nuptials to Howard Gordon.

Erica Kane (All My Children)

One of the most notorious divorcés in TV history is Erica Kane, played by the legendary Susan Lucci on All My Children. Over the course of four decades on the ABC daytime soap opera, the businesswoman was seen tying the knot a staggering eleven times.

Angela Bower (Who's The Boss?)

Years before Judith Light portrayed a divorcé on Transparent, she played single mother Angela Bower on the hit ABC sitcom, Who’s the Boss? The advertising executive would eventually find love again with her widowed live-in housekeeper, Tony Micelle (Tony Danza).

Rhoda Morgenstern (Rhoda)

When Valerie Harper left the Mary Tyler Moore Show to star in her own spin-off, Rhoda, the title character would meet and marry a divorced man named Joe Gerard (David Groh). Their relationship would only last a couple more years and we discovered much later in a 2000 TV movie called Mary and Rhoda that she found a new French husband named Jean-Pierre Rousseau, but that marriage did not last either.

Niles Crane (Frasier)

Arguably the funniest recurring gag in Frasier is that Niles Crane’s (David Hyde Pierce) wife, Maris, is never once seen — due to the characters’ increasingly bizarre descriptions making her impossible to cast — even after their marriage falls apart in Season 4. Thankfully, Niles would later fall in love with his brother’s housekeeper, Daphne (Jane Leeves).

Angela Martin (The Office)

After her engagement to Andy Bernard (Ed Helms) ends due to her affair with Dwight Schrute (Rainn Wilson), Angela Martin’s (Angela Kinsey) marriage to state senator Robert Lipton (Jack Coleman) ends due to his affair with Oscar Martinez (Oscar Nunez) in the final season of The Office. Soon after, she and Dwight finally and openly admit their love for each other and wed in the series finale, which actually counts as their second after Dwight fooled her into a marriage while she was still engaged to Andy.

Alexis Morrell (Dynasty)

Much of the most intense drama on the long-running primetime soap opera, Dynasty — which was later rebooted for The CW — stemmed from the relationship between former spouses Alexis Morrell (Joan Collins) and Blake Carrington (John Forsyth). The marriage was actually the first of four for the socialite, who also went on to marry Cecil Colby, Dex Dexter, and Sean Rowan.

Bill Dauterive (King Of The Hill)

For all 13 seasons of King of the Hill, Bill Dauterive (voiced by Stephen Root) never quite got over his ex-wife, Leonare (Ellen Barkin). There was a time in Season 5 when he had a chance at finding love again with former Texas governor Ann Richards (voicing herself), which ultimately went nowhere, but was almost ruined by one of Leonare’s schemes.

Mike and Gloria Stivic (All In The Family)

The conservative Archie Bunker (Carroll O’Connor) would constantly butt heads with the more liberal Mike Stivic (future filmmaker Rob Reiner), who was married to his daughter, Gloria. However, by the end of the groundbreaking run of All in the Family, the couple separated. Archie initially assumed it was by Mike’s doing, until Gloria admitted to her own infidelity.

Mr. Big (Sex And The City)

The classic “will they, won’t they” relationship between Carrie Bradshaw (Sex and the City cast lead Sarah Jessica Parker) and John James “Mr. Big” Preston (Chris Noth), would eventually result in marriage (until his death, as revealed in the sequel series, And Just Like That…), which was the entrepreneur’s third. He was previously married to a woman named Barbara and, during a time when he and Carrie were apart, married a younger woman named Natasha (Bridget Moynahan).

Louie (Louie)

Much like in real life, Louis C.K.’s fictionalized version of himself in the acclaimed FX series, Louie, is a divorced comedian. In fact, one of its sharpest elements is its almost tragically hilarious depiction of single parenthood from his perspective.

Henry VIII (The Tudors)

Borrowed straight from the history books, Showtime’s The Tudors incorporates a truly heinous depiction of a marriage ending. Because divorce is against her religion, Catherine (Maria Doyle Kennedy) has her marriage to King Henry VIII (Jonathan Rhys Meyers) annulled due to his obsession with Anne Boleyn (Natalie Dormer). As a result, she is exiled. 

Breaking up is hard to do, but in the case of these divorced characters, it made for great television.

Summer 2023 is an unusual time for updates in film and television, to say the least, as the SAG-AFTRA strike means that fans are more likely to see their favorites on picket lines than behind-the-scenes on new projects. For two former Two and a Half Men stars, the strike resulted in a reunion that almost certainly never would have happened for their sitcom characters. Jon Cryer and April Bowlby hit the picket line together and posed for a fun photo! 

Jon Cryer and April Bowlby played Alan and Kandi on Two and a Half Men, respectively, with the two characters ultimately tying the knot... followed by Kandi becoming the unfortunate Alan's second ex-wife. Their romance may have been doomed from the start, but the two former co-stars are united for the SAG-AFTRA cause circa 2023! Take a look at the reunion photo posted by Cryer: 

Both actors spent some time as DC Comics characters over recent years, with Jon Cryer portraying Lex Luthor on Supergirl and April Bowlby playing Rita Farr on Doom Patrol, although Supergirl wrapped back in 2021 and Doom Patrol will end after the upcoming fourth and final season following a cancellation earlier this year. Their versions these DC Comics characters never crossed over with each other, so fans had to wait until the SAG-AFTRA strike to see the stars reunite. Bowlby posted a version of the reunion photo on her Instagram account as well, and her caption said this: 

In the post, April Bowlby tagged @wgastrikeunite as well as @sagaftra and @joncryer, showing her support for the WGA writers strike on top of the SAG strike. She also got some support from another fellow former Two and a Half Men co-star in the comment section, with Melanie Lynskey – who shared her thoughts on a Two and a Half Men reunion back in May before revealing recently how she knows when a fan recognized her for playing Rose – posting: 

I think anybody can agree with the "Awww!!" sentiment from Melanie Lynskey, even though the SAG-AFTRA strike isn't exactly cute. Via THR, the actors of SAG-AFTRA went on strike after they couldn't reach an agreement with the streamers and studios of AMPTP regarding a contract for scripted TV and films. The strike began on July 14, just a month and a half after the script writers of WGA began striking in early May. 

The two strikes mean films like Wicked had to shut down production while the fall TV schedule on network television is already a mess, with CBS and NBC finally rearranging their schedules like ABC to fill their fall lineups with reruns, unscripted options, and pre-filmed content. That's good news for Yellowstone fans with that show coming to CBS and Magnum P.I. fans with Season 5 returning earlier than expected on NBC, but bad news for viewers who will now have to wait for the shows that were initially scheduled for just a couple of months from now. 

For now, though, you can revisit the run of Two and a Half Men with Jon Cryer and April Bowlby streaming via Peacock Premium subscription and see what TV offerings will still be available with our 2023 TV schedule. 

Superman and Lex Luthor have clashed for decades in the comics, movies, TV shows and other projects, and now the time has come for Superman and Lois to depict that feud. It’s been announced that Michael Cudlitz will play Luthor in The CW show’s upcoming third season, and now Jon Cryer, who played the chrome-domed antagonist on Supergirl, has shared his praise for The Walking Dead actor scoring the role. However, that praise was accompanied by a fun warning about Bitisie Tulloch, who plays Lois Lane.

Debuting as Lex Luthor in the middle of Supergirl Season 4, Jon Cryer’s version of the longtime DC Comics baddie caused trouble across 20 episodes of the Melissa Benoits-led series, and he also appeared in the Batwoman, The Flash, Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow episodes from the “Crisis on Infinite Earths” crossover. As you’ll see from the below comment he shared on Twitter, while Cryer would have been game to reprise to play the Luthor being brought into Superman and Lois, he’s confident that Michael Cudlitz will do justice to the character.

Had Superman and Lois been set in the main Arrowverse Earth, i.e. Earth-Prime, then it’s likely Jon Cryer would have returned as Lex Luthor, although then there would have needed to be an explanation for how he escaped the Phantom Zone, which he was dragged into during the Supergirl series finale (which Cryer wasn’t like at first). However, Superman and Lois’ Season 2 finale revealed that the show takes place on a different Earth, meaning the Superman and Lois Lane we followed along with in “Crisis on Infinite Earths” were not the same versions as the ones Bitsie Tulloch and Tyler Hoechlin play in the show. Since it was established in “Crisis” that not all doppelgängers look alike or are even the same age, the stage was set for another actor to take over as Luthor, and that actor is now Michael Cudlitz.

Speaking of the man who played Abraham on The Walking Dead, after Michael Cudlitz responded to Jon Cryer’s above comment by saying that he’s “really looking forward to this” and has been a fan of Cryer’s work for years, the Two and a Half Men alum responded with this:

Uh oh, maybe Lex Luthor should be more concerned about Lois Lane laying a beatdown on him instead of Superman. Of course, Jon Cryer’s comment is all in good fun, and afterwards he posted a gif of a moment in “Crisis on Infinite Earths” when Bits Tulloch’s Lois Lane knocked out Lex Luthor while he was using the Book of Destiny. Tullock responded to this “claim” with a ‘face with tears of joy’ emoji and then provided some amusing context for how that scene was shot.

Michael Cudlitz being cast as Lex Luthor follows a few months after Titus Welliver’s outing as the character in the Titans Season 4 premiere. Although Cudlitz’s Luthor’s is known to the public as the visionary genius behind LexCorp, criminals know him as a “brutal psychopath who terrorizes anyone he crosses paths with.” After being absent from the public eye for years, Luthor will resurface in Superman and Lois Season 3 to exact revenge on Superman and Lois Lane, who he sees as the two people who have most wronged him.

The Arrowverse and its related shows have experienced many shakeups as of late, as fans recently said goodbye to Stargirl and will bid farewell to The Flash in 2023. Superman & Lois will be the last remaining show in the franchise, even if it established that it exists outside the world of the main programs. With that separation comes a downside for fans, as it seems that the series, despite already casting one Season 3 villain, is searching for a new Lex Luthor rather than having Jon Cryer reprise the role he played on Supergirl. Not long after confirming he wouldn’t return as Luthor, Cryer received a message from Smallville alum Michael Rosenbaum. 

Michael Rosenbaum, who played Lex Luthor for seven seasons on Smallville, sent some honest sentiments to Jon Cryer after the latter crafted a semi-sad Twitter post about Henry Cavill’s dismissal as Superman. Rosenbaum chased the tweet with some words of encouragement, which you can see for yourself down below: 

Prior to this tweet, Jon Cryer took to Twitter to confirm that he won’t be considered for Lex Luthor on Superman & Lois. The Two and a Half Men alum explained in his tweets that he’d be filming his new TV series in February. But even if that weren't the case, he wouldn't return, as he’d already been informed by DC of their intentions and that they wished to take the character in another direction. 

Fortunately, it seems like Jon Cryer isn’t all that broken up about it, since he had a humorous response to throw back at Michael Rosenbaum. Cryer joked about a secret ritual known only to actors who play Lex Luthor and how they’ll have to initiate the next person to portray the iconic bad guy:

I know that Jon Cryer is most likely joking here but, if there is a ritual, I really want to know what it is and when it’s happening for the actor who will allegedly play Lex next. While a casting decision hasn’t been announced just yet, it seems like said person can expect some light-hearted ribbing from Cryer and Michael Rosenbaum when they’re announced. 

Michael Rosenbaum reached out to a fellow Lex Luthor actor at a time at which he himself has signaled some interest in reprising his role as the character for James Gunn’s reimagined DC Universe. It seems unlikely that the director and newly installed co-pilot behind DC Studios' creative direction would tap Rosenbaum for the role (even if they are close friends). But in a world where Henry Cavill is no longer Superman, who knows what other decisions might be made?

Superman & Lois will return to The CW in March as part of the 2023 TV schedule. With all the changes happening at DC, it’s hard to say exactly what the future holds for one of the only remaining DC television shows, but this upcoming season should be exciting all the same. 

After finishing up his time as the scary Lex Luthor on Supergirl, it was announced that Jon Cryer would be making his way back to comedy, specifically network comedy. It’s now confirmed that the Two and a Half Men veteran will make his way to NBC to star in Mike O’Malley’s new half-hour comedy. 

According to Deadline, the untitled series will star Cryer, Donald Faison and Abigail Spencer, and it’s reported to come out next fall. All three of these actors have been on mainstay network television shows, so seeing them all come together will be fun. 

Cryer, is best known for starring in Two and a Half Men, but also co-starred with Molly Ringwald in the John Hughes, ‘80s classic Pretty in Pink. Much like Cryer, Faison has played a principal character in a classic sitcom and starred in some nostalgic movies. Most, likely know him from his 9-year run as Dr. Turk on Scrubs, however, he also had supporting roles in the ‘90s classic Clueless and co-starred with Denzel Washington in Remember the Titans. As well as her new co-stars, Spencer has an extensive TV career. Most recently, she had a recurring role on Grey’s Anatomy as Owen Hunt’s sister Megan, and has also starred in iconic dramas like Mad Men and True Detective. 

While there is not a title for the show just yet, the announcement did explain a bit about the plot. The series is set to follow the divorced couple Jim (Cryer) and Julia (Spencer), whose split was apparently “amicable,” and instead of the kids traveling between two homes, the parents take turns staying in their home with them. This all takes a turn when the owner of Jim’s favorite basketball team, the Boston Celtics, starts dating Julia. A perfectly normal situation on all counts, no?

Along with starring, Cryer is also an executive producer on the show. He will be working with O’Malley, who is currently the showrunner of Heels who also created Survivor’s Remorse. Also, The Connors EP Tom Warner, who owns the Boston Red Sox and Liverpool FC, and Wyc Grousbeck, who is the majority owner of the Boston Celtics, are set to produce. The sports connections behind the scenes definitely make sense.

What’s exciting about this project is it marks Cryer’s return to comedy. Though Two and a Half Men went through some major controversies, almost coming to a rocky ending early on, it’s still one of Cryer’s most iconic roles, and to see he’s coming back to his comedy roots is super exciting. 

Before this, though it was awesome to see him as Lex Luthor in Supergirl, so we could see a different side to the actor. From the freaky first look, all the way until the end fans loved Cryer as Supergirl’s big bad. With The CW show over though, it will be fun to see Cryer return to him comedy roots.

Two and a Half Men was a hit for CBS from the early days, with sitcom veteran Charlie Sheen headlining opposite Jon Cryer. The two anchored the series for the better part of a decade, before Sheen’s very public departure. He was fired in 2011 after eight seasons, with the eighth season cut short after Sheen entered rehab and made some controversial comments. The show ultimately continued with Ashton Kutcher joining Jon Cryer, but Cryer has now explained how close Two and a Half Men came to actually ending early. 

Speaking with ET, Jon Cryer revealed that the show was “going so smoothly” in the early years (which you can revisit streaming with a Peacock Premium subscription), and Charlie Sheen had been sober for two years before starting. Things changed over the years, however, when Sheen started going “off the rails.” Cryer – who would go on to land a memorable role on Supergirl – reflected:

Charlie Sheen went through his divorce from Denise Richards during his time on Two and a Half Men, which lasted from 2003-2011. Their split was finalized in 2006. He married Brooke Mueller in 2008, but they too divorced in 2011. According to Jon Cryer, Sheen’s personal life began to affect his work on the CBS sitcom, and the issues that ultimately led to his firing were “very subtle” to start.

The ultimate decision to cut Season 8 short and fire Sheen came after what was reportedly an erratic final day of filming. At that point, the odds seemed in favor of the show ending rather than continuing without the star. As much as Jon Cryer was a co-lead with Sheen, the premise of Two and a Half Men seemed to require both Charlie and Alan Harper. 

Now, Cryer has shared that as his co-star’s public behavior grew more and more unpredictable, he and the creator considered ending the show altogether. He said: 

A show running for eight seasons is pretty impressive as is, so Two and a Half Men wrapping at the close of even the shortened eighth season wouldn’t have been terrible. Cryer was evidently willing to let it happen if it was best for Charlie Sheen’s health, but Chuck Lorre (who recently opened up about watching the show again after the drama) came up with a different kind of fix: seemingly killing off Charlie Harper and bringing in Ashton Kutcher as the new co-lead. He and Cryer would star in the final four seasons of the show before it finally ended for good in 2015, with a finale that revealed Charlie Harper was alive after all.

In the years since the end of Two and a Half Men, Jon Cryer evidently hasn’t kept in touch with Charlie Sheen, but said that he is “glad that his health has rebounded” and hopes for “nothing but success for the guy.” Recently, he took to Twitter to pitch a reunion with Sheen for another Hot Shots! movie. The first Hot Shots! was actually the first time that the two actors appeared in the same project, more than a decade before they’d reunite for Two and a Half Men. Whether or not they truly ever reunite for another project remains to be seen, but Cryer is heading back to TV comedies following the end of Supergirl.

When it comes to sitcom controversies, it’s hard to think of a more suitable and unique example than the latter years of Two and a Half Men’s twelve-season run on CBS, largely as they relate to the ousted star Charlie Sheen, his stints in rehab, his firing, and his public responses to it all. But as hectic as it all was at the time, we’re now more than eleven years beyond Sheen’s erratic exit, which has helped to give the sitcom’s creator Chuck Lorre enough time and distance to feel comfortable watching the show again without the negative memories and emotions of that clash.

Following the glut of major cancellations and noteworthy TV finales, Chuck Lorre spoke with Variety about his lengthy and successful career on the small screen, and after he brought up rewatching older episodes of Two and a Half Men, the Big Bang Theory creator was asked if all things Charlie Sheen played into how he currently feels about the show as a whole. Admitting there was a point when it wouldn’t have been enjoyable, Lorre said:

Thankfully, Chuck Lorre has been able to get around the more uncomfortable and negative emotions in order to still view Two and a Half Men from a more objective perspective. It’ll likely be impossible to completely remove all Sheen-related memories from the creator’s brain, but so long as he feels okay about taking in reruns from the earlier seasons, good on him. I know I have a couple of far more dumpy jobs from my own early life that I don’t like to think of due to troublesome co-workers, so I can imagine it takes some mental tap-dancing to get to a more content place. 

Clearly the work stands for itself with or without Charlie Sheen’s personal life mucking things up. After all, the show’s fanbase hasn’t exactly dissipated, with reruns available to stream with a Peacock subscription, and that’s in part to how the cast works as a full ensemble, as opposed to everything relying just on Sheen’s performances. Nobody can deny Jon Cryer’s talents, nor that of the late Chonchata Ferrell and others, so someone who might not be aware of Sheen’s issues over the years wouldn’t be taken out of the narrative at all.

Given that the show debuted back in 2003, and that Chuck Lorre has created or helped develop roughly 1,000 TV series in the meantime, it tracks that he wouldn’t have every single episode’s story beats committed to memory. And he reflected on that notion by saying his and the creative team’s goal was to create a show that stood the test of time, as opposed to a flash in the pan. In his words:

For his part, Charlie Sheen hasn't exactly been quite as cool and calculated over the years when it comes to everything that went down on Two and a Half Men, and I doubt we'll be seeing him co-starring with Ashton Kutcher anytime soon. (Even though Jon Cryer has a fantastic idea for a reunion project with Sheen that seems super-timely.) In 2021, he seemed to offer up some regret over how he handled things, shedding a negative light on his "#Winning" approach. But only a few years earlier in 2017, he shared some particularly rabid thoughts about Chuck Lorre, calling him “the most talentless fucking sack of shit of fucking stupid this side of La Brea.” So it’s obviously hard to know where his head is at now.

As much as fans might want to see more from the Two and a Half Men-verse, it's safe to say we'd all be better off just watching already existing eps. But it does look like Jon Cryer has another network comedy on the horizon, as he's been tapped to star in a pilot created by Heels' Mick O'Malley. 

Saying Charlie Sheen’s firing from CBS’ Two and a Half Men was eventful would be an understatement, and there was an abundance of drama following Sheen’s exit, especially between him and Jon Cryer, as well as with his replacement Ashton Kutcher. It’s been more than a decade since Cryer and the Wall Street actor shared the screen. Things appear to have cooled down since then, though, and the Supergirl vet even suggested an idea for a reunion with his former Two and a Half Men co-star.

The last time Cryer and Sheen shared the screen ended with an explosive final day, according to the Supergirl actor. He recalled their last day on set being filled with erratic behavior on Sheen’s part, stemming from the latter's personal issues at the time. But time must’ve healed old wounds, as he hopped onto Twitter to suggest the former two co-stars revisit one of their most excellent earlier outings. Cryer and Sheen doing another Hot Shots! movie together? Where’s the studio and writing team ready to get this sequel off the ground? Seriously, someone find them. Long before they starred in the CBS sitcom, the two actors co-starred together in the initial Top Gun parody, with Sheen as Lt. Sean "Topper" Harley and Cryer as the wall--eyed Lt. Jim "Wash Out" Pfaffenbach. While the latter didn’t return for the 1993 sequel Hot Shots! Part Deux, Sheen was back in action for the A+ follow-up. Doing another film may be the perfect opportunity for audiences to see Topper and Wash Out back together again, and could spark a new wave of quality spoof flicks.

As Cryer pointed out, the success of Top Gun: Maverick proved there’s a market for nostalgia done right, and that shouldn't be limited to non-parodies. Another sequel within the Hot Shots! franchise would make sense, and it could even play into the idea of legacy-quel spoofing, similar to how 2021's Scream approached its own history. And there obviously wouldn't be a better time to capitalize on Maverick’s monumental success than while that success is happening. 

Cryer’s idea seemed to signal that he and the former Anger Management actor are in a better place than they were a decade ago. After being ousted from the series, Sheen called the CBS comedy a “steaming pile of ass” when Warner Bros. sent him a cease-and-desist letter to stop using photos of himself as Charlie Harper while promoting the aforementioned FX comedy.

While the Supergirl actor and his longtime co-star essentially stopped speaking to and of one another for a spell, Sheen saved much of his vitriol for his replacement. After Kutcher stepped in for Sheen as internet billionaire Walden Schmidt for the series’ final four seasons, Sheen harassed him the entire time and was in constant attack mode when the That '70s Show vet's name came up. It even got so bad that Kutcher had to address the attacks on Jimmy Kimmel Live! Of course, Sheen ended up apologizing to him, so anything can happen. Including a new Hot Shots! movie.

Jon Cryer’s impressive acting career took an interesting turn in 2019 when he was cast as the villainous Lex Luthor of The CW’s Arrowverse. The Two and a Half Men vet may have seemed like an unexpected choice for the iconic role, but he ultimately made it his own and received praise in the process. While he’s more than made his mark in the superhero genre since, the actor’s roots are in comedy, and it’s been quite some time since he’s been a regular on a sitcom. It sounds like that’s about to change, though, as he’s apparently circling a new TV comedy following his stint in the DC Comics-based world. 

The 57-year-old star is reportedly in talks to join a pilot that’s been ordered by NBC. According to Deadline, the currently untitled project is a multi-cam comedy that’s being developed by Mike O’Malley, who’s best known for creating the Starz sports dramedy Survivor’s Remorse. O’Malley, who also serves as a writer, is set to produce the purported show alongside Tom Werner (of The Cosby Show, That ‘70s Show and The Conners fame), Wyc Grousbeck, Emilia Fazzalari and George Geyer. Additionally, Lionsgate Television is the company behind the series.

Per the trade, the project centers on a former married couple, Jim (presumably played by Jon Cryer) and Julia, who decide to raise their kids in their family home following their civil breakup. As the two navigate their new reality, things are shaken up in a big way when the owner of Jim’s favorite sports team steps in and begins to charm his ex-wife. Given his history with athletic-infused storytelling, that last bit is incredibly on brand for Mike O’Malley and could add an interesting layer to the series. 

It pretty much goes without saying that Jon Cryer has more than his fair share of experience with situation comedies. From the late ‘80s to the ‘90s, the actor appeared in a plethora of shows, either in starring or recurring roles. (Cryer even almost starred in a fan-favorite sci-fi series.) Most of his gigs were short lived, though his big break would come in the early 2000s when he was cast as Alan Harper in Chuck Lorre and Lee Aronsohn’s Two and Half Men. Cryer’s 12-year stint as the penny-pinching chiropractor would earn him two Primetime Emmys, amid seven nominations. 

Though comedy is his home, one still can’t deny just how perfect the Pretty in Pink alum was for the role of Lex Luthor. Shortly after the first look at his Luthor was revealed, the star explained that he decided to play the Supergirl villain because of his disappointment with 1987’s Superman IV: The Quest for Peace. In that movie, he played Lenny, the nephew to Gene Hackman’s Luthor. He more than made up for things, however, especially in the final season of Melissa Benoist’s show, which solidified why fans needed more of the actor’s Luthor. While he initially didn’t like the show’s finale (as he wanted Lex to win), he warmed up to the end of his character’s arc and expressed interest in reprising the role at some point. 

Should this new series earn a series order and take off though, Jon Cryer may not have the time to don the maniacal comic book villain’s business suit again. Nothing is totally certain for Mike O’Malley’s show at this point, but what can be said is that it would be great to see Cryer back in the sitcom game. And with an interesting premise and a capable cast, the comedy could truly shine.

Supergirl has wrapped its seven-season run on The CW, but not before giving Kara and the Super Friends a proper sendoff. The team had to take on an overpowered Nyxly and Lex Luthor before getting to its endgame, and thankfully, they were able to come out on top. Not everyone feels thankful, however, as Luthor actor Jon Cryer revealed he didn’t like the finale at first. 

Jon Cryer put a lot of work into Lex Luthor, and in an interview with TVLine, felt the character could’ve gotten a little more shine in the finale. In what comes off as a semi-joking tone, Cryer confessed his biggest complaint with the finale is that Lex didn’t win and instead became trapped in the Phantom Zone with Nyxly:

Lex Luthor does feel doomed to a fate worse than death. Being trapped in the Phantom Zone is terrible enough, but being trapped alongside the one woman you ever loved who will never love you back because she hates you to your very core? Man, that’s brutal, but as Jon Cryer pointed out, an effectively wonderful punishment for one of DC’s greatest villains of all time. 

Plus, Lex Luthor can survive the Phantom Zone. Of the many things Arrowverse fans can take away from the Supergirl finale, it’s that the Melissa Benoist-led series put Lex in a situation in which he can escape and cause trouble if the opportunity arises on Superman & Lois, The Flash, or any of the other superhero shows. I know there are Superman & Lois fans hoping to see Jon Cryer’s Lex appear, and it sounds like the actor is receptive to any future offers to appear in the Arrowverse.

With Supergirl officially over, Jon Cryer and other beloved actors of the series have the potential to turn up on other shows. Hopefully the Supergirl cast can turn back up in the Arrowverse moving forward, much like former Arrow regular David Ramsey. Chyler Leigh is already slated to appear on The Flash in its eighth season, so that's a start!

Supergirl is finished at The CW, but fans can jump right back to the start right now by streaming the series over on Netflix. Congrats to the cast and crew for finally reaching the end, and it will be exciting to see what legacy the series has over time.

Jon Cryer has played a number of roles over the years, ranging from Pretty in Pink’s Duckie to Supergirl’s own Lex Luthor. The role that he’s arguably best known for now, though, is that of Alan Harper on CBS’ Two and a Half Men. Cryer became a household name, thanks to his 12-season run on the Chuck Lorre-produced comedy. However, as it so happens, the actor nearly landed a role on another fan-favorite series ahead of booking the sitcom.

Ever Carradine recently posed a question to her fellow actors on Twitter, asking them to name a role they came close to getting that no one would believe. The actress, known for her work on series like The Handmaid’s Tale and Marvel’s Runaways, revealed that she tested for the role of Grace on Will & Grace multiple times. Jon Cryer retweeted the question and revealed that in order to a final test for Two and a Half Men, he had to turn down an offer for a major sci-fi series:

The idea of Jon Cryer playing Battlestar Galactica’s Gaius Baltar is intriguing, though it’s honestly not a stretch. Gauis Baltar actually has a number of similarities to Alan Harper, as the two both have a dry sense of humor and aren’t especially liked by everyone. Interestingly enough, Gauis starts off as a self-serving opportunist, and Alan gradually transforms from a well-meaning man into someone who has no problem mooching off others. It should also be pointed out that Baltar has a charisma that’s present in Cryer’s Lex Luthor, though he’s arguably not as sinister as the Arrowverse villain.

Ultimately, Battlestar Galactica would tap James Callis for the role of Gaius Baltar, and fans would probably agree that he was a perfect fit for the role. While some may wonder what might have been with Jon Cryer, the actor doesn’t seem to have any problem with the way things played out:

You can’t help but love seeing actors show love to their colleagues. Of course, Jon Cryer is also right when he says that things worked out for the best. James Callis became a pop culture icon for his role as Baltar and was able to play the character for years. And today, he continues to have a steady acting career.

In joining Two and a Half Men, Jon Cryer became part of a ratings juggernaut, as the show now stands as one of the most successful shows in TV history. Aside from becoming one of TV’s highest-paid actors, Cryer also landed two Emmys over the course of the show’s run. So yeah, things worked out quite well.

There’s honestly no telling where a role can lead you, even if it’s for a show headed by an accomplished producer like Chuck Lorre. When reflecting on their role choices, some actors are sure to have regrets, but it’s good to know Jon Cryer is just fine with his trajectory. Supergirl’s final season is making sure its main characters are getting their chances to shine. In the recent episodes of The CW's superheroine series, Lena Luthor tore away from both her family name and her brother Lex, as portrayed by Jon Cryer. Katie McGrath, who has portrayed Lena since the Season 2 premiere, recalled a fun memory on set that involved getting to smack her on-screen brother.

Lena Luthor has gone through quite a lot over the years on Supergirl, especially when it comes to Luthor Corp and her ever-devious brother Lex, so it's always great when Katie McGrath's character gets to let off some steam. In speaking with TV Guide about on-set stories from the final season, she brought up just such a moment involving Jon Cryer's dubious supervillain, and why it was so epic:

Katie McGrath and Jon Cryer have obviously gotten close over the years ever since Cryer signed on as the Arrowverse’s Lex Luthor in the back half of Season 4. As wholesome and healthy as that real-world relationship is, though, Lena and Lex’s on-screen kinship has been very toxic and very manipulative, courtesy of both Luthors. But Lena has now officially joined the Super Friends in the fight to get Kara out of the Phantom Zone and also still battling evil. Moving forward, it will be interesting to see how scenes including both siblings are different the closer we get to the end, as Lena has completely (and justifiably) turned against her brother. (Vaguely ironically, Cryer spent over a decade playing the less-punchable brother on Two and a Half Men.)

Recently it was reported that Lex Luthor will be absent for a brief time in Season 6, but that he will have an even bigger presence in the second half. Thus, it's possible he will be inevitably be the final Big Bad of the Arrowverse series, which would make sense since he’s been one of the core recurring villains since Season 4. Lena and Lex’s relationship has also been a key storyline throughout the years, and Lena’s struggles with her family, especially lately, have been big for the series. I think we can all agree that after bringing the fists to Lex in the premiere, Lena needs more scenes like that in the near future.

Meanwhile, for the remainder of the season, on top of seeing Lena teaming up more with Team Supergirl and awaiting Lex’s big return that will no doubt end disastrously, more familiar faces will be returning, and a younger version of Cat Grant will be making an appearance in a future episode. Just don't expect to see every familiar face. But with this season being the final one, Supergirl will most likely go out as big as possible when it’s time!

As we head into TV finale season, new episodes of Supergirl air Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on The CW, following new episodes of The Flash.

Supergirl kicked off its final season with a premiere that was heavy on Lex Luthor, as Jon Cryer's supervillain was in a position to deal a devastating loss to Team Supergirl and a whole lot of others. The good news for the people of the Arrowverse is that the heroes were able to stop him before his grand plan succeeded, even if Kara didn't escape the confrontation unscathed. Now that he suffered a big defeat, the question is: what does the rest of Supergirl's final season look like for Lex Luthor?

Fortunately for fans who love his special brand of villainy, Lex Luthor isn't done for the season just because he didn't come out on top in the premiere. TVLine reports that although Lex Luthor will be absent for a brief time moving forward, he will be back and looming large in the second half of Season 6.

The prospect of Jon Cryer having a large presence in the back half of the final season indicates that he could very well be the ultimate big bad of the series, especially since Kara will be away from Earth for a while and not battling any baddies on the home front. Cryer has had an on-screen presence on Supergirl since the fourth season, making him one of the series' longest-running key bad guys, and he made an impression on the larger Arrowverse courtesy of the "Crisis on Infinite Earths" crossover that changed everything.

Lex Luthor in the "Crisis" crossover means that there are already connections to the other ongoing Arrowverse shows, although Arrow has already ended since the crossover and two more (including Supergirl) are on the way out. It's not hard to imagine the Arrowverse finding ways for Lex to return after Supergirl wraps, unless the goal is for the Girl of Steel to score a definitive defeat over an iconic villain at the end of her series.

Then again, Legends of Tomorrow managed to incorporate some Flash and Arrow big bads after their defeats on their original shows, and Flash is bringing back a key Arrow character this season. As long as he's still alive when the final credits roll on Supergirl, there are plenty of ways that Lex could theoretically continue have a part to play in the Arrowverse thanks to his role in the second half of Season 6.

As for what's happening in Supergirl during the wait for Lex Luthor's return, the show will have plenty going on. Familiar faces are likely to return, although one in particular may not be at the top of the list. A version of Cat Grant is coming back, but don't expect Calista Flockhart back in the mix! Even though the big crossover that was originally planned for the 2020-2021 TV season won't be happening, there is a lot to look forward to.

The CW is all about Superman right now, thanks to the recent premiere of Superman & Lois, and everyone knows there's nothing that makes supervillains madder than heroes in the spotlight. Perhaps that's why Michael Rosenbaum, who played Lex Luthor on Smallville, took to social media and decided to playfully troll a guy who played Lex Luthor on television more recently: Jon Cryer.

Michael Rosenbaum wasn't willing to return as Lex Luthor for the mega "Crisis on Infinite Earths" Arrowverse crossover, but it seems he's down to troll the guy that did. Check out Rosenbaum's goofy video below, and continue reading for how the Supergirl actor reacted to it.

It's a weird video that didn't make much sense to me at first until I had a chance to soak it in. Michael Rosenbaum is essentially saying that with his "shaved head" (which is actually the work of a social media filter) and full beard, he resembles Jon Cryer's Lex Luthor look. It's notable to mention here that Cryer did appear as a bearded Lex Luthor in his Arrowverse appearances, while Rosenbaum did his role on Smallville clean-shaven.

Of course, Jon Cryer took the whole thing in stride, and how could he not with the hashtag "sexylexys" attached to it? The actor responded to one of the few men he can relate to when it comes to playing Lex Luthor on television, though he didn't quite deliver the playful jab back Rosenbaum may have deserved.

The two had a brief exchange afterward in which Michael Rosenbaum lamented that he didn't have perfect facial hair like Jon Cryer, where Cryer was jealous Rosenbaum could actually grow a full head of hair. Clearly, it's all fun and games between these two, and not just two celebrities taking random shots over each other on the internet. It's worth mentioning Cryer has appeared on Rosenbaum's podcast Inside Of You, so I can only imagine the two have further bonded since then.

Of course, since Michael Rosenbaum welcomed the comparison, I now have to wonder if the actor isn't intentionally trying to look like Jon Cryer for some specific reason. To say I'm skeptical that he would reprise his Smallville role in the Arrowverse after the actor sat out "Crisis On Infinite Earths" when so many other notable names didn't is an understatement, but I still have a sliver of hope holding out within me he'll return to play Lex or another Luthor like Cryer did someday.

That opportunity could come sooner than later with Superman & Lois on The CW currently, but we can only wait and see. It's all hope and speculation at this point. Catch that series Tuesdays at 8:00 p.m. ET, and read up on the surprising reveal that may show a Lex reveal isn't that far off.

Yesterday, the TV community was saddened to hear of the passing of Conchata Ferrell, who was best known for her role as Berta the housekeeper on Two and a Half Men. For 12 seasons, Ferrell left audiences in stiches with Berta’s tough demeanor and spot-on one-liners. This would make her favorite with fans and earn her two Emmy nominations for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series. She left a significant mark on TV and, now, Two and a Half Men co-stars like Charlie Sheen and Jon Cryer are paying tribute to her.

Shortly after Conchata Ferrell’s passing was reported, Charlie Sheen posted a sweet message on Twitter, in which he referred to the actress as a “consummate pro” and “genuine friend.” He also sent one last message to her character:

Jon Cryer added to these sentiments with a lengthy thread in which he mourned “Chatty” and remembered her for her “warmth and vulnerability,” which he says were her greatest strengths:

Cryer went on to recall the first time he worked with Conchata Ferrell and how excited he was to star alongside her since he was a fan of her previous work. The actor also sweetly recommended that fans take some time to look at Ferrell’s body of work.

Melanie Lynskey, who played Rose on the show, also praised Ferrell, calling her “the warmest, most gracious lady.” In her message, Lynskey made note of the loving support Ferrell always received from her husband:

The matriarch of the Harper family, Holland Taylor, also retweeted several posts from her colleagues. And when retweeting Jon Cryer’s, she could only say that his sentiments perfectly summed up the emotional weight of Ferrell’s passing:

Two and a Half Men co-creator Lee Aronsohn also took to social media to pay his respects to the late star. The producer referred to Ferrell as a “warm, wonderful woman” and also made note of her loving relationship with her husband:

While many are likely still reeling from Conchata Ferrell’s passing, and it’s so nice to see so many of her former colleagues honor her in such a great way. Her character may not have been the warmest person in the world, but it definitely sounds like Ferrell was a loving presence behind the scenes.

It’s truly the end of a superheroic era. Supergirl is saying farewell, and Kara Danvers will take to the skies for one final batch of episodes in Season 6 before saying goodbye. Series star Melissa Benoist expressed the utmost gratitude for getting to play such an iconic character and promised viewers will be getting “one helluva final season.” In the hours following The CW's cancellation news, Chyler Leigh, David Harewood and more Supergirl stars also reacted to the show ending after six seasons.

Supergirl has had a unique run when compared to the other Arrowverse shows. In fact, it wasn’t originally a part of CW’s superhero line-up (or the Arrowverse), with Season 1 actually airing on CBS before the series moved to The CW for Season 2 and beyond. Now that everyone knows Supergirl will officially end in 2021, Chyler Leigh posted an Instagram photo of herself with Melissa Benoist and David Harewood on their first day of filming for Season 1 and looked back on what the series has meant to her. Here’s what she wrote:

Chyler Leigh also added that working on Supergirl has been a job of a lifetime and that she was so inspired by co-stars Melissa Benoist and David Harewood to stand taller and believe in herself. Watching Leigh grow into her role as Alex has been a personal joy for me as well, and I don’t think Supergirl would be what it is now without Kara and Alex Danvers’ heartfelt sibling bond.

“Space dad” David Harewood, who plays J’onn J’onzz (a.k.a. Martian Manhunter), also took to Instagram to share how grateful he’s felt to be a part of Supergirl since the beginning. He posted a sweet picture of himself, Melissa Benoist and Chyler Leigh to go along with the caption. Take a look below!

Meanwhile, Jesse Rath, who joined Supergirl in Season 3 as Brainiac 5, reacted to the cancellation news on Twitter. I think Rath’s take on Brainy has been one of the highlights of the last few seasons, so it’s fitting that the actor added a Brainy gif and quote to his post.

The last time we saw Brainy, he was dying slowly after sacrificing himself to protect everyone from Lex Luthor and his devious plans. He was also on the outs with the rest of Team Supergirl because he’d been working as a double agent alongside Lex. Nicole Maines’ Nia Nal realized that he wasn’t okay in the Season 5 finale and will hopefully find him before it’s too late.

Speaking of Nia, I think Nicole Maines added a new energy to the show when she joined Supergirl as Dreamer. Getting to watch her and Kara bond and Nia evolve her powers on the show has been, well, a dream for me. Maines feels the same way and took to Twitter to share her thanks and sadness over the show’s end.

Two and a Half Men vet Jon Cryer has played the scheming Lex Luthor for a couple of seasons now, and the actor is convinced that Supergirl will indeed go out with a bang. My guess is that Lex will also blow something up just for good measure. Check out Cryer’s reaction below!

I’m of the opinion that Lex wouldn’t have gotten anything done if he didn’t have Andrea Brooks’ Eve Teschmacher at his side. At the end of Season 5, Eve revealed what Lex and Obsidian’s plans were for the world, but things are still tense between her and Team Supergirl. Such is not the case in real life, and Brooks posted a fun photo of herself with Katie McGrath and Melissa Benoist after the cancellation news.

Knowing that Supergirl is ending in advance of the Season 6 finale hopefully means that the writers have something amazing in store for the superhero show’s final season. I (and assumedly many others) may shed a tear or two by the time the series finale rolls around, but at least there’ll be plenty of time until then for fans to accept that the show will end for good.

What’s wilder than thinking about how Pretty In Pink legend Jon Cryer auditioned for the role of Marty McFly? Try talking about the draft of the script that Cryer was given to read for the part! With the new 4K reissue of the Back to the Future trilogy headed to home video shelves this fall, some pretty awesome special features are about to hit audiences for the first time. Included in those extras are screen tests from folks like Ben Stiller, Kyra Sedgwick, and Jon Cryer, among others, as they tried to win their way into time travel history. And apparently, some, if not all of those auditions took place with a vastly different serious of events.

This new announcement prompted Mr. Cryer to take to Twitter with some awesome memories of the original draft of Back to the Future, and he laid out a huge swath of differences that eventually morphed into the comedy that everyone knows and loves. How different was Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale’s story that first go around? According to Jon Cryer, here’s where the differences start:

A story that’s swam in the circles of Back to the Future lore for pretty much all of its existence, the landmark 1985 movie initially saw Christopher Lloyd’s Dr. Emmett L. Brown as a video pirate, with Marty assisting him in his efforts. Of course, this was a bit of a side hustle for those time travel experiments that would eventually send Marty McFly into his family’s past, nearly wiping him and his siblings out of existence.

But the really big differences come from the climax to the original draft of Back to the Future. We’re all used to Marty gunning the DeLorean down the town square, while Doc Brown struggles to reconnect the cable that’ll deliver the necessary 1.21 Gigawatts of lighting directly to the time machine. But as Jon Cryer continues to point out, from his own memory of the original script, there was a very different final act in the draft dated from February 1981:

Wow, we almost saw a world where Marty McFly took a very different side of the Cola Wars. But wait… it gets better, as Marty does find one last bottle of Coke in, of all places, a refrigerator! And as Jon Cryer rounds out his recollection of the end to Back to the Future’s alternate history, our hero pulls an Indiana Jones, and hides in said refrigerator to ride out the nuclear blast that sends him and his time machine home. Huh, that sounds familiar, doesn’t it? Cryer picked up on those similarities, and showed himself a true student of history by invoking the very scientifically accurate scene you’re thinking of right now:

To say that the late, great Carl Reiner had an extensive legacy would be a gross understatement. The comedy icon was well known for creating and starring in The Dick Van Dyke Show and working on sketch comedies like Your Show of Shows and Caesar’s Hour through the ‘50s and ‘60s. However, his career also included numerous recurring roles and guest spots in more recent shows like Two and a Half Men. Now, creator Chuck Lorre and members of the cast are taking the time to remember Reiner.

On Two and a Half Men, Carl Reiner played the role of Marty Pepper, an aged TV mogul who dated and later married Evelyn Harper. Reiner would appear on the show in several episodes between Seasons 7 and 11. In a statement to Deadline, Chuck Lorre recalled his time working with Reiner on the show as one of the most “rewarding and joyful experiences” of his career:

Jon Cryer, who played Reiner’s eventual stepson Alan Harper, went to social media to pay tribute to the late comedian. Cryer was once tasked with replacing Reiner as the host of the Directors Guild of America Awards, a position the icon had held for a while. In a tweet, Cryer shared the letter Reiner sent him ahead of the show and, as you can imagine, the comedy vet responded in appropriate fashion:

Jon Cryer would go on to say that he would go on to nail his hosting duties, especially since he kicked off the show by reading Carl Reiner’s letter. In another tweet, Cryer said that working and getting to know Reiner were two of the biggest thrills of his career and noted just how much joy he brought to people.

Holland Taylor, Reiner’s TV girlfriend and wife, would join Cryer in paying tribute to him. While sharing a tribute from fellow Two and a Half Men alum Amber Tamblyn, Holland remembered Reiner as a funny man and intelligent man with values:

It goes without saying that Carl Reiner leaves a void in Hollywood that will not be filled, but it’s wonderful to see the cast and crew of Two and a Half Men, and many others, paying tribute to one of the biggest names in Hollywood history.

Who gets the girl? It’s a complicated question that plagues almost every romantic comedy, and it’s not always an easy question to answer. Writers and directors can’t predict how an audience is going to react to certain on-screen pairings, and when you introduce a love triangle, that outcome becomes even more unpredictable. And the same seems to go for the “king” of teenage comedies, John Hughes.

No one has enjoyed as strong of a string of iconic teen comedies as John Hughes did in the 1980s. The writer-director helped create Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club, Weird Science, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off and Some Kind of Wonderful. That’s hall of fame shit. Right in the middle of that stretch, Hughes teamed with director Howard Deutch on Pretty in Pink, which catapulted Molly Ringwald to the head of the Brat Pack and solidified the careers of Andrew McCarthy, Jon Cryer and James Spader.

In the film, Ringwald plays the prototypical teenage girl from the “wrong side of town” who falls for the cool rich kid (McCarthy) but also strings along her nerdy best friend (Cryer). But during a recent interview, Deutch told us that they originally had an ending that test audiences hated. So, Hughes wasn’t perfect? That’s kind of comforting. Deutch opened up about that speed bump, telling CinemaBlend:

Yep, that’s a totally different ending from what we ended up seeing. And in some way, it’s remarkable that test audiences in the 1980s didn’t support Jon Cryer’s Duckie getting the girl at the end. Throughout Pretty in Pink, Duckie is the one who has Andie’s (Ringwald) back. Who can forget this classic 80s moment?

Jon Cryer has officially made his debut as Supergirl's Lex Luthor, and the critiques of his performance are rolling in on the web. Amongst those critics is former Smallville actor Michael Rosenbaum, whose portrayal of Lex in the series has made him a respected voice regarding all performances that have come since. Rosenbaum, who's known to be rather candid and not mince words, decided to tell the world exactly what he thinks of Cryer's portrayal via social media:

Michael Rosenbaum's a fan, and has put his stamp of approval on Jon Cryer's performance in Supergirl. As mentioned, it's high praise from the actor, who many believe gave one of the best portrayals of the character in modern media. He seemed really impressed by the shape of Cryer's head, and how great it looked without hair. It sounds silly, but back when Batman v. Superman revealed Jesse Eisenberg with hair as Lex, some folks were furious.

Michael Rosenbaum hasn’t been necessarily unkind to other Lex Luthor actors in the past, as he gave some compliments on Jesse Eisenberg as an actor prior to Batman v. Superman. With that said, he did jokingly offer on his Twitter to take the role back from Eisenberg when Henry Cavill’s status as Superman was up in the air. Was it a joke, shade, or just someone casually putting it out there that he misses the role and wouldn’t mind returning?

Jon Cryer didn't respond to Michael Rosenbaum's tweet directly on his own account, but did post a link to the podcast the two did. Cryer probably appreciates the praise, as part of why he took the role on Supergirl was to repair a part of him that was saddened when Superman IV: The Quest For Peace flopped. Lenny Luthor may not have been a hit, but it's looking like his portrayal of Lex just might be.

With this collaboration between a past and a current Lex, it would be great if the Arrow-verse capitalized on the two men's recent meeting and found a way to do a Smallville crossover. Rumors were floating around something like that could've happened during "Elseworlds," but the special only showed the iconic Kent farm and played the show's theme song. "Crisis On Infinite Earths" is coming up later this year, so maybe then the two Lexes may meet?

It wouldn't really play into the typical Arrow-verse trend of doppelgangers, but surely many fans would forgive it for a chance to see Michael Rosenbaum, Tom Welling, and others on screen again. Should Jon Cryer's Lex Luthor still be around by the time "Crisis" rolls around, let's hope some writers push behind the scenes to make these two Lexes come together for some evil plan. The crossover will involve multiple alternate worlds, so it's not like this scenario is an impossibility.

Jon Cryer's run as Lex Luthor on Supergirl isn't just another job for the 53-year-old actor, it's personal. Cryer formerly played a member of the Luthor family in Superman IV: The Quest For Peace, which went down as one of the worst of the series. The actor hopes that with his upcoming portrayal he and fans can move on from that movie and he can repair a piece of his superhero fandom.

The Supergirl showrunners believed Jon Cryer was the right man for the job, and revealed he was the top choice to play the iconic villain. This wasn't explicitly due to his portrayal of Lenny Luthor, but rather co-showrunner Robert Rovner seeing Cryer being able to craft a villain folks hate to love. Rovner and Jessica Queller added to EW they've been pleased with Cryer's performance thus far, and thrilled that DC eventually let them bring the villain to Supergirl.

So just how big of an impact will Lex have throughout Season 4? Jon Cryer shared a bit on what's to come on Supergirl, and it sounds like Lex is going to be that mover and shaker he's typically shown to be.

If that's as good as it sounds, then Jon Cryer will certainly be able to shake off that disappointment he carries from Superman IV. In his defense, most of the issues critics and audiences have with the film have nothing to do with his character, and are more tied to the film's cheap effects and heavy editing due to a cut budget. Given The CW's love of the Arrow-verse, it's safe to say those types of problems won't be happening on Supergirl.

Supergirl Season 4 is still rolling strong on The CW, with new episodes airing Sundays at 8:00 p.m. ET. Jon Cryer's Lex Luthor should be a sizable part of the rest of the season, and with Superman off and doing other things, the pressure will be on for Kara to bring him down. James Olsen's sister is on the verge of making her debut. Before her arrival, Supergirl has already announced they have big plans for Kelly Olsen. Her portrayer, Azie Tesfai, has not made her first appearance in Season 4 yet, but there is already exciting news about her future.

The actress will go from recurring in Season 4 to a series in regular in the already-renewed Season 5. All of which hints at Kelly Olsen having a major role to play on Supergirl moving forward. Along with revealing her enhanced status with Supergirl, TVLine teased where Kelly’s story is heading.

The report heavily hints Kelly Olsen could be set to find love as Alex Danvers’s new romantic interest. Supergirl fans will get a chance to see how they hit it off when Kelly makes her long-awaited debut in tomorrow night's (Sunday, March 17) episode.

Fans will not have to wait long either. Alex and Kelly appear to be introduced to each other right away. In a promotional picture from the episode, Kelly and Alex can be seen sitting together in what appears to be a hospital waiting room. Check it out above.

Is Kelly treating Lex Luthor and Alex meets her there? Because, yes, this is the episode that also introduces Jon Cryer's Lex Luthor. The description for Sunday’s episode says he is on a "furlough" due to the state of his health. Maybe Kelly is at the hospital to treat him? She is still in training, so it is unclear. More on that in a minute.

News of James Olsen’s sister coming to Supergirl took place a while ago. The announcement of Azie Tesfai’s casting as Kelly came out way back in October of last year. It has taken until March for her to make her much-anticipated debut.

Who is Kelly? Here is what's known about James’ sister, per Deadline. When she makes her way to Supergirl, Kelly is finishing her training to become a psychiatrist. She has recently gotten discharged from the military, following a stint she took on to pay for medical school.

As far as her personality goes, Kelly is described as smart and "insightful" with a big heart for people. She is said to care deeply for others. You could not ask for better qualities.

Alex broke up with her fiancé Maggie in Season 3. A disagreement over having kids turned out to be their relationship’s undoing. Alex wants to have kids, and Maggie did not. That should be a question Alex would want to address ahead of time with Kelly -- if they do get together -- as to avoid a repeat.

Kelly will be sticking around and presumably taking on a prominent role, considering the actress’ upped status for Season 5. Hence, Kelly and Alex should have more than enough time to sort out their relationship, if TVLine's hint proves true.

It will be interesting to learn what happens. Kelly makes her debut in Sunday’s installment, which will also welcome Jon Cryer’s Lex Luthor. So, Supergirl will have a lot going on in its next episode.

Supergirl has introduced a bunch of the biggest characters from Superman comics lore over its first four season, but one that was conspicuously absent from the present-day action was Lex Luthor. Well, Lex is finally on the way to the show in a non-flashback capacity, and the first look at Two and a Half Men’s Jon Cryer in the role shows Lex already behind bars. Check him out!

I’ll admit to having my reservations about 53-year-old Jon Cryer as Lex Luthor due to the gigantic age difference between him and 36-year-old Katie McGrath, playing Lena Luthor, and the slight age difference between him and 58-year-old Brenda Strong, who will play his mother.

That said, this first look at him reveals Cryer looking suitably menacing behind bars, so perhaps he’ll be convincing enough in the role that viewers won’t be distracted by the numbers. Or maybe prison life aged him prematurely! Bad batch of prison wine, maybe?

It’s no surprise that Lex Luthor will be behind bars for at least a chunk of his first episode of Supergirl. Although Lex has yet to make an appearance outside of flashbacks, the show established that he lost in a big showdown with Superman and earned himself 30+ life sentences in prison.

In his debut episode, Lex will reach out to Lena from prison, looking for her help in one of his schemes. In true Lex Luthor style, he’ll stop at nothing to get her support, and that may mean the life of one of Lena’s friends is in grave danger. The first episode featuring Jon Cryer as Lex Luthor will air on Sunday, March 17, with the fitting title of “O Brother, Where Art Thou?”

While Lex Luthor is known traditionally as a villain for Superman and the description of “O Brother, Where Art Thou” focuses on his dynamic with Lena, Supergirl executive producer Robert Rovner dropped some comments indicating that Kara will be invested in the plot as well, largely thanks to her cousin’s absence from Earth.

Superman and Lois Lane took off for Argo City at the end of the “Elseworlds” crossover following the reveal that Lois has a super bun in the oven, which made for a sweet happily-ever-after before the big blow in the final moments of the crossover.

Kara will feel a challenge and responsibility to deal with Lex Luthor, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he ranks as one of her most formidable foes. Any man who could go toe-to-toe with Superman long enough to be recognized as his archenemy undoubtedly has some tricks up his sleeve for taking down Kryptonians, even if he did wind up behind bars. If Kara tries to help Lena, she’ll probably want to be careful.

We still have a couple of months to wait before we see Jon Cryer in action as Lex Luthor, but at least Supergirl is back on the airwaves following a winter hiatus. New episodes air Sundays at 8 p.m. ET on The CW. Dreamer is on the way, and the superhero suit looks amazing. Will that be enough to distract us from Alex's recent tough decision? As fans and superhero enthusiasts alike look forward to Supergirl's official introduction to Lex Luthor, the CW series' executive producers are teasing how his presence will impact Kara. Will she rise to the occasion against one of the greatest villains of DC Comics, or buckle under the pressure? Robert Rovner recently revealed that Lex is going to be someone that Kara is going to feel some extra pressure to take on, thanks to an obligation to family.

The pressure is on for Kara, who won't have her cousin around to aid in the fight against his biggest arch nemesis. While she may not wish to mess things up, Supergirl has a lot to juggle with Alex protecting her identity at the risk of her job at the DEO, and Ben Lockwood's imprisonment emboldening his supporters. With all that, it's safe to say Kara may not be at her best to take on a foe like Lex Luthor.

Which may mean some bad things, as Robert Rovner told Comicbook that all these situations happening on Supergirl will "dovetail" by the season's end. Whether Jon Cryer's Lex Luthor will prove to be responsible for a lot of what's happening, or find a way to add to the chaos is unknown, but Rovner told EW his character will propel the rest of the season forward once he's involved.

Lex Luthor's role sounds huge, and with his introduction happening ahead of the Arrow-verse's "Crisis On Infinite Earths" crossover later this year, some may wonder if his run will only last for the season or if he'll be sticking around long enough to play a part in it. That would seemingly rely on Kara's ability to stop him without her cousin to play backup, so fans will have to wait and see what happens when these two go head-to-head.

UPDATE: Pete Davidson appeared briefly on the December 15 Saturday Night Live, introducing the musical guests and appearing in a pre-taped sketch (as Rami Malek in the Oscars auditions).

Pete Davidson was trending all day Saturday after he posted a troubling Instagram note suggesting suicidal thoughts. He followed that by completely deleting his Instagram. Celebrities reached out with concerns, and the New York police said they would conduct a welfare check. One celeb -- actor Jon Cryer -- updated fans on Pete's location:

Saturday Night Live is airing the final episode of 2018 tonight, with Matt Damon as host, and Mark Ronson and Miley Cyrus as musical guests. Multiple sources also told TMZ that Pete Davidson was at SNL on Saturday afternoon, rehearsing for that night's show. However, they added that he may have posted his dark Instagram note while he was at work or on the way to 30 Rock.

Speaking of the 30 Rock building, TMZ added that Pete Davidson's ex-fiancée Ariana Grande went there on Saturday to try and see Pete.

Even the New York Times weighed in, later adding that a police officer was sent to the Manhattan Saturday Night Live studio to check on Pete Davidson, and an NBC rep contacted the New York Police Department to say that Davidson was at work and was fine.

The story of how Pete Davidson got to this point is quite long, but the most recent recap starts with an Instagram post he shared two weeks ago on bullying and suicide. That appeared to be in reference to his split with Ariana Grande. He's named as an ex in her song "thank u, next," and he also referenced their breakup on Saturday Night Live. She seemed to think he was milking their breakup for relevance, but asked her fans to be kinder to Davidson after that post.

But apparently some fans have taken harsh shots at Pete Davidson, who has been open with his mental illness. Things took an ugly turn yesterday as part of Kanye West's epic tweet session against Drake. Ariana Grande made a lighthearted entry into that feud, promoting her new song release, and Kanye responded that he didn't appreciate it. He said all of the foolishness was weighing on his mental health.

Pete Davidson jumped with support of Kanye and being open with mental health concerns. Ariana said she meant no harm, and just wants everyone to be healthy and happy. Kanye said he was glad that they were all destigmatizing mental health.

During the whole Kanye/Drake/Ariana tweeting, Pete Davidson posted what read to many as a suicidal note on Instagram. He deleted the note, and apparently his entire Instagram, but it was saved and spread online:

So fans spent Saturday asking others to check on him. Pete Davidson does have a lot of fans out there, and so many called the NYPD that they sent officers to find him and do a welfare check.

Pete Davidson was just on Google's list of top-searched actors of 2018, most likely because of his engagement (then breakup) with Ariana Grande, as well as controversial jokes on Saturday Night Live. He's had a lot of ups and downs this year, but hopefully he sticks with us into 2019. It would be nice if 2019 only gave all of us ups, with no downs. We can dream.

Saturday Night Live airs Season 44, Episode 9 tonight (December 15) at 11:29 p.m. on NBC. At this point, the episode is hours away, so we'll have to wait and see what role Pete Davidson plays, and if he addresses his posts on air.

Superman has made a lot of enemies over the years, but arguably the greatest of the bunch is Lex Luthor, who uses his brains to deal with the Man of Steel's brawn. These two have that same adversarial relationship within the world of Supergirl, but while Superman has already shown up a few times on that TV show, Luthor, outside of a flashback to his childhood, has simply been referenced numerous times. However, it was announced last month that the adult Lex will finally appear on Supergirl later this season, and today it's been revealed that he'll be played by none other than Two and a Half Men star Jon Cryer.

Jon Cryer's Lex Luthor will debut in episode 15 of Supergirl Season 4, and this will be a recurring role. No specific details about this version of Lex were revealed, but we can expect him to be a formidable foe not just for Supergirl, but also his adoptive sister, Lena, who's been one of the show's principal characters since Season 2.

Interestingly enough, this won't be Jon Cryer's first time dipping his toes into the Superman mythology, as he previously played Lenny Luthor, Lex Luthor's nephew, in 1987's Superman IV: The Quest for Peace. He also contributed to the DC Comics media landscape by voicing Felix Faust in an episode of Justice League Action.

Outside of comic book media, Jon Cryer is best known for his role as Phil "Duckie" Dale in the John Hughes-written movie Pretty in Pink and starring as Alan Harper in the CBS series Two and a Half Men. In recent years, his notable credits have included guest roles on NCIS and The Ranch, and he recently wrapped production on the upcoming movie Big Time Adolescence, where he co-starred alongside Pete Davidson.

Jon Cryer joins a long list of actors who've portrayed Lex Luthor in live action. In the TV realm, the villain has previously been played by Scott James Wells and Sherman Howard in Superboy, John Shea in Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman and Michael Rosenbaum on Smallville. On the silver screen, Lex has been brought to life by Gene Hackman in three of the four Christopher Reeve-led Superman films, Kevin Spacey in Superman Returns and Jesse Eisenberg in the DC Extended Universe. Lex is also set to be one of the main characters in the DC Universe series Metropolis, which is still in development.

At the start of Supergirl Season 2, it was revealed that Lex Luthor was serving 32 consecutive life sentences, but even though he's been stuck behind bars, Lex still looms large on the series. For instance, when Lena Luthor rebranded Luthor Corp as L-Corp and changed the company direction to atone for Lex's crimes, Lex sent John Corben, the future Metallo, to kill her. Lex's imprisonment is also what led his and Lena's mother, Lillian Luthor, to pursue a vendetta against aliens, though fortunately, Lena opted to go down a different path.

It's also been noted that in the Supergirl continuity, Superman and Lex Luthor started out as friends (similar to their relationship in Smallville), but when Lex's methods became too brutal and the Kryptonian hero saw the chrome-domed billionaire industrialist for the man he really was, that's when they became adversaries. It's unclear if we'll actually see Superman and Lex Luthor interact within Supergirl, though you can bet there are a lot of fans who want to see that happen. Tyler Hoechlin will reprise Superman in the upcoming Arrowverse crossover "Elseworlds," which will introduce Elizabeth Tulloch's Lois Lane.

While there is a bigger age gap between Jon Cryer and Katie McGrath than the one shown between the young Lex and Lena in the flashback from the Season 2 episode "Luthors," Jon Cryer is definitely an interesting choice for Lex. Cryer is arguably better known for his comedic performances, but fingers crossed he can channel Lex's special brand of menace in this more dramatic setting.

One can also imagine that Jon Cryer's Lex Luthor will somehow be tied to the main villain of this season, Ben Lockwood, a.k.a. Agent Liberty, who's leading a violent movement against aliens on Earth. Agent Liberty had been working with Mercy and Otis Graves, both of whom previously worked for Lex, but they were killed in the most recent Supergirl episode, "Ahimsa." Whether Liberty is already in communication with Lex or they'll form an alliance later this season, or even if Lex has his own separate plans in motion, given how much Lex hates aliens and his past with Superman, it wouldn't be wise for Supergirl's protagonists to underestimate him.

If there's one thing comic book fans have learned over the decades about Lex Luthor, it's that it takes more than sheer power to bring him down. Granted, that definitely helps, but there are instances where one must outsmart him, as difficult as that may be. With that in mind, Supergirl having Lena as an ally will be most helpful. While Lena isn't on great terms with Kara Zor-El's superhero self (she's still unaware that Kara and Supergirl are one and the same), the two women are still working together to protect the innocent, so Lena may be the key to thwarting whatever Lex has planned.

Bringing in Lex Luthor is just one of the ways Supergirl is delving into family this season. One of the new characters this year is Nia Nal (played by Nicole Maines), CatCo's newest reporter who will soon become the superhero Dreamer, and in the future, we'll meet her sister Maeve (played by Hannah James) and her mother Isobel (played by Kate Burton).

I also can't help but wonder if Lex appearing soon means that we'll also soon be reunited with Brenda Strong's Lillian Luthor. She's been locked up for her crimes and claims to have turned over a new leaf, but if Lex has something in the works and ends up breaking Lillian out of prison after he escapes (assuming that happens), then maybe she'll have a change of heart and revert to her sinister ways.

The second season of Will & Grace's revival run just added another guest star. The NBC sitcom will welcome Two and a Half Men's Jon Cryer for a role that he is very familiar with. In fact, you could say that he is around this character every day.

That's right! Jon Cryer will be playing himself in an upcoming episode of Will & Grace, per THR. So, whose sphere will Cryer find himself in? Jack and Karen's! Unfortunately, there is not a lot more to go on than that. When fans left off with Jack and Karen, both were in different relationship spaces. Jack had become engaged, and Karen had called off her long-simmering affair with Alec Baldwin's Malcolm Widmark. How Jon Cryer will fit into the friends' storyline will be fun to find out.

The fact that Jon Cryer will be playing himself when he makes his guest appearance could indicate any number of possible arcs, so we can only speculate at this point about what's in store. With Jack being an aspiring actor, it is feasible that is where Cryer could come into the story. Interestingly, Jon Cryer's upcoming guest appearance on Will & Grace will not be the first time the actor has played himself in a series. He recently played himself in the first episode of the Netflix comedy Lady Dynamite.

As for Will & Grace, Jon Cryer is the latest in a long line of guest stars that are set to take part in the revival's second installment. The NBC series has also managed to secure another sitcom favorite. In case you missed it, Friends' David Schwimmer has been cast for a pivotal arc in Season 2. Schwimmer will play Grace's new boyfriend. Other Season 2 guest stars will include Chelsea Handler, Alec Baldwin as Malcolm, and Mary McCormack as Grace's older sister, Janet.

A date for Jon Cryer's episode has not been shared yet, so stay tuned. Cryer's appearance on the popular NBC sitcom comes three years after Two and a Half Men came to an end in February 2015. Cryer has been keeping his sitcom muscles strong having recently appeared in Ashton Kutcher's The Ranch. Will & Grace's super successful revival run will continue this fall, so fans will not have too much longer to wait before seeing Cryer make his debut in Season 2.

The Roseanne cancellation and re-revival have inspired various reactions from celebrities and industry insiders around Hollywood, but few can react to it from the unique perspective of the Two and a Half Men cast. While Charlie Sheen used that time to seize an opportunity to petition the CBS series getting revival of its own, Jon Cryer stayed silent about the issue. Now, the actor is speaking out, not through throwing support to his fired co-star's revival efforts, but rather to empathize with most of those involved in the Roseanne situation:

Jon Cryer's understanding comes from the drama he experienced when Charlie Sheen was fired from Two and a Half Men in 2011, even though he didn't mention Sheen by name. CBS didn't drop that series like ABC did with Roseanne following Roseanne Barr's behavior, but there was certainly the same question of whether Two and a Half Men had a future after one of its sorta-titular leads was suddenly fired. Cryer told Us Weekly that while he couldn't speak about Barr or her beliefs personally, he gets frustrated to see people ruining their coworkers' opportunities to bring positivity into other people's lives, not to mention also destroying one's own high-profile job offering the same positive output.

One may assume that with ABC ordering up the Roseanne-free spinoff The Conners, the worst of the cast's trials and tribulations has passed, although Jon Cryer hinted otherwise. Cryer spoke from experience and said that while the cast and crew may have saved the show in the short-term, keeping a relaunch alive takes a lot of effort.

Two and a Half Men certainly did get lucky, replacing Charlie Sheen with a post-That 70s Show Ashton Kutcher and remaining on television for several more seasons before officially hanging things up. Cryer didn't go into specifics regarding what relaunch difficulties he was alluding to in his quote, although one obvious question for ABC is how The Conners will recreate the feel and atmosphere of Roseanne without the original series' title character. Additionally, there are surely some complicated feelings amongst the cast and crew in regards to Barr's firing and the franchise's future, which could create some tension on the set. That said, the cast responses so far have seemed to be universally in favor of how things have been handled.

For years, Jon Cryer played the down on his luck and cheap Alan Harper on Two And A Half Men, but since the show's ended, the actor hasn't had lots to quack about in Hollywood. That looks like it's about to change as Cryer is returning to his home network in a project that sounds similar to the beloved comedy he spent a decade working on. It's being reported that Cryer will return to CBS and will appear in a family comedy titled Dads And Daughters.

According to THR, Dads And Daughters is a multi-camera comedy that features two men who share an ex-wife in trouble with the law. After the wife is sent to prison for credit card fraud, the two men move in together to keep their daughters together. Jon Cryer is executive producing the project alongside his wife/producing partner Lisa Joyner, and Cryer is planned to appear in the project as well. The comedy is being written by the minds behind Man With A Plan and Mike & Molly, both of which have had decent track records on the network. While he is attached to appear, Cryer is currently not listed as a star on the project.

That's a shame considering one of the dads in Dads And Daughters (a reserved math teacher with midwestern values) sounds like a role Jon Cryer could win another Emmy playing. Cryer's reduced presence may be a good thing though considering his pilot for ABC's comedy Losing It (in which he was the star) was overlooked not that long ago. With Cryer the only actor currently attached to the project, it's unknown who will be selected to play the dads (the other being an outgoing personal trainer), but given they have him playing a smaller role, there will be some big shoes to fill!

Why the two men of Dads And Daughters are forced to move in together rather than live in the same city and let their daughters interact that way has not been revealed. In fact, little else is known about this comedy project other than the core concept and that the script is currently being written. One has to speculate though that with Cryer making a homecoming to CBS with a new pilot, expectations are rather high.

Hopefully, the second time is a charm for pilots as we will keep our eyes peeled for more developments regarding Dads And Daughters. It's been a busy time for CBS as of late as the network just gave the go ahead for another season of Star Trek: Discovery and has also committed to a potential Magnum P.I. reboot. For just over a duckie - ahem - a decade, CBS' Two and a Half Men put actor Jon Cryer in front of many millions of viewers, and while he's made a handful of appearances on other series since that sitcom ended, there's been a an all around Cryer-Dearth happening during primetime TV. But that might be coming to an end soon, as the comedy-friendly actor has signed on to play a lead in the in-development ABC pilot Losing It, which could be his next big era-spanning and Emmy-earning gig.

Losing It won't force Jon Cryer to stretch his performing muscles too much, as the project is right in line with everything else that ABC has put its comedic focus on: families. The potential series will center on three adult siblings who, along with their parents, are all going through different life-changing situations that cause each of them to, as the title hints, completely lose it. Someone is apparently losing a marriage, while another is suffering a loss of freedom, while somebody else may be losing their actual life. Dun-dun-dunnnnn. As you might have imagined, Cryer will be playing one of the aforementioned siblings, according to Variety.

On Losing It, Jon Cryer will be joining the previously announced actress Natalie Morales, known to fans of The Grinder and Parks and Recreation, for what would be his first regular small screen role since Two and a Half Men ended in 2015. If you recall seeing him show up elsewhere in the last two years, you wouldn't be considered crazy, as he reconnected with his former co-star Ashton Kutcher on the latter's Netflix comedy The Ranch. That wasn't his only Netflix gig, either, as Cryer also made an appearance on an episode of Maria Bamford's comedy Lady Dynamite. As well, he delighted fans of NCIS with a guest star stint as someone who saved Gibbs' life. But it's once again time for a weekly gig.

For its creator, Losing It has TV vet DJ Nash, who most recently created the short-lived NBC sitcom Truth Be Told, and before that was the creator of the short-lived comedy Growing Up Fisher. (There were other one-season shows that he worked on before that, too, including Traffic Light, which I loved so hard.) Something tells me this ABC Studios production won't be anything like Jon Cryer's last job, although I would love to see Charlie Sheen signing on to play the third sibling. I'd just warn DJ Nash to walk on eggshells for years afterward.

We might be waiting a while longer to hear about the fate of Losing It, so I suppose we shouldn't all start celebrating. What everyone can do, though, is head to our midseason premiere schedule to check out the shows that definitely are premiering in the near future.

Two And A Half Men went through a slew of creative changes when the show lost Charlie Sheen. Eventually, Ashton Kutcher replaced Sheen and the show continued making money for an additional four seasons. While Ashton Kutcher ended up being a good addition to the team, he wasn’t the show’s first choice. Instead, Hugh Grant was initially eyed for the role, and the CBS comedy went so far as to sign him on for the gig before the deal fell through, according to Jon Cryer. Here’s the new info the actor told Howard Stern this week:

During the most recent recording of The Howard Stern Show, Cryer talks about how he assumed the show was over when Warner Bros. made the tough decision to fire Charlie Sheen. However, the next time he talked to Chuck Lorre, the man seemed pumped and had already spoken to Hugh Grant about potentially joining up. Jon Cryer also says he was a bit astounded Hugh Grant would even think about joining the American television show, but he took some meetings and the deal continued to move forward.

While the man did eventually back out, it was in the later stages of cobbling a new version of Two And A Half Men together. In fact, not only did he sign a contract, the sitcom had already come up with an oddball backstory for his character. Here’s what Hugh Grant’s Two And A Half Men character would have been like: 

Obviously, after Hugh Grant backed out, Ashton Kutcher wound up occupying the role. Although they kept some of the stuff in the script—like having Charlie’s character die, or so it seemed at the time, Ashton Kutcher’s character was very different. Partially because the actor isn’t British. Instead of playing a con man, Kutcher’s Walden was a billionaire and divorced when he first appeared. He was sharp, but also generous—quite unlike a con man would be. His portrayal kept Two And A Half Men on the air for another four seasons. 

No one really thought that Two And A Half men could succeed without Charlie Sheen, not even Jon Cryer. But succeed the sitcom did. We have no way of knowing if the same thing would have happened with Hugh Grant’s con man character involved, but we do know that it helped that Ashton Kutcher’s Walden was an open dude who matured over time on the series. That was something we certainly never got from Charlie Sheen.

These days, even booking a small part in a huge superhero movie usually leads to some steady work, and brand recognition. One day you're a side character in a Marvel movie, the next you're leading your own TV show, with two spin-offs to show for it. However, it wasn't always this way, as some big stars landed some small roles back in the wilderness days of comic book films, and then saw them evaporate. Hell, there are even some known names who landed major roles in the past couple of years. Unfortunately, those folks happened to pick the wrong movie to make their four-panel debut, and those roles got buried.

Well today's the day we revisit the hits and misses, in order to remind you that these 15 stars once had roles in some familiar comic franchises. Some you may remember, others you may forget, but all deserve a spot of notoriety on this list!

Ellen Pompeo -- Daredevil

While Grey's Anatomy would eventually see Ellen Pompeo falling for heartthrob of movies and TV, Patrick Dempsey, her role in Fox's Daredevil saw her set-up with a ladies' man of a different caliber. Playing Karen Page to Ben Affleck's Matt Murdock, the would-be love interest may have had a shot at a tender moment with Affleck on screen in a possible sequel. But with the disastrous reception, and the film's focus on the romance between Murdock and Jennifer Garner's assassin Elektra Natchios, it just wasn't meant to be.

Joe Manganiello -- Spider-Man

We can almost guarantee you're going to need to take a breath before reading this next entry, as we were quite surprised when we realized it ourselves. Joe Manganiello, better known as a hunky werewolf from HBO's True Blood or as a hunky stripper in the Magic Mike franchise, was actually in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man. Even better still, he played the role of Flash Thompson: bully to Peter Parker, and eventual laughing stock at the hands of Peter's newly developed powers during the first film's early hallway brawl. Something tells us that a modern rematch would go just a little bit differently.

Patton Oswalt -- Blade: Trinity

Before landing a plum role on Marvel's Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D., Patton Oswalt had only one other comic book adaptation credit to his name. Unfortunately for him, it was as Hedges, the vampire hunter / short-lived associate of Ryan Reynolds' Nightstalkers in Blade: Trinity. Though Oswalt's misfortune of being cast in such a lackluster film did come with a hell of a silver lining, as he's periodically shared stories about how Wesley Snipes was so into character that he'd refer to himself as Blade. Not to mention, he also shared the fact that Snipes was blazed pretty much all of the time, giving a plausible explanation to why such an anticipated sequel fell flat on its face.

Elizabeth Banks -- Spider-Man

Let it be said that Sam Raimi has an eye for talent, as he not only discovered Joe Manganiello for a role in his Spider-Man trilogy, but he also found Elizabeth Banks to be the perfect choice for The Daily Bugle's famed administrative assistant, Betty Brant. One of the few romantic foils for Peter Parker in the comics, Banks' Brant was used more as a snarky presence to bounce off of J.K. Simmons' J. Jonah Jameson; though the two did share a bit of a moment in Spider-Man 3. Of course, that was just the Symbiote talking, and since Spider-Man 4 never happened, we never did get to see any sort of fallout from this temporary moment between the two.

Angela Bassett -- Green Lantern

One of the best decisions that the folks behind the 2011 adaptation of Green Lantern could have made, and heavens knows those were far and few between, was the casting of Angela Bassett as Amanda Waller. Should that film have succeeded, we'd more than likely see her not only tell off Batman in the future Justice League films that would have spun off from this film's hypothetical success, but we would have seen her ordering around the Suicide Squad, should that film have also sprung forth from that same scenario. Alas, Green Lantern tanked, and it's Viola Davis' turn to give the DC Universe hell. Still, Bassett's Waller is a beautiful "what if?" we can't seem to shake.

Norman Reedus - Blade II

Before he was cross-bowing zombies and playing The Walking Dead's _Daryl Dixon, Norman Reedus was hunting an entirely different set of beasts altogether: vampires. Guillermo del Toro cast the then unknown actor as Scud: the weapons maker / _Powerpuff Girls fan who would later reveal himself as a familiar for the vampire royal family. It's a shame he had to eventually die an explosive death, but at the very least it lead to a relationship that would have put Norman Reedus in Guillermo del Toro's Silent Hills, which unfortunately was cancelled before it got very far. Still, this was one of those roles that paved the way to Reedus becoming the basic cable badass that he's now primarily known for, and it's made all the difference.

Tim Robbins -- Green Lantern

You can be an Oscar winner/nominee, or just all around well respected actor, and the comic movie bug will eventually bite you. We're about to come up on several more entries of this caliber, starting with Tim Robbins role as Senator Robert Hammond, father to Peter Sarsgaard's villainous Hector, in Green Lantern. While his performance wasn't given the most screen time, he did he best that he could with what material he was given. Much like Angela Bassett before him, Robbins is one of those actors we kind of wish we could have seen in the current DC Universe, as his Senator Hammond would have made a great ally for Holly Hunter's Senator June Finch in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Martin Sheen -- Spawn

Another well respected actor who landed a big part in a comic book film is Martin Sheen, who managed to snag the role of the lead baddie in 1997's mixed-reception classic Spawn. But unlike some of the other luminaries we've got on this list, Sheen's performance as Jason Wynn isn't nearly as redeemable, though we'd like to think that's no one's fault but the writers. Playing a covert ops agent / arms dealer hybrid, Sheen's Jason Wynn was on a strict diet of only the tastiest scenery, and he ate as much as he could chew. Is it a fun performance? We could argue that it was indeed. But is it anywhere near the caliber that Martin Sheen usually delivers to his work? Indeed, it is not.

Jon Cryer -- Superman IV: The Quest For Peace

Before he made a career as the cosmic punching bag Charlie Sheen and Ashton Kutcher took pity on over 12 seasons of Two And A Half Men, Jon Cryer was an outside member of the 1980's society known as "the Brat Pack." That association not only saw him star in the John Hughes movie Pretty In Pink, it also found him taking on a role in the then red-hot Superman franchise. But as any good franchise fan will tell you, the end can come at any moment, turning a sure thing into a dud. Cryer, sadly, was a part of one of the most infamous duds ever, playing the role of Lenny Luthor -- Lex's dim-witted nephew -- in Superman IV: The Quest For Peace. All we have to say about this rather interesting choice is that Lenny's fashion sense is about as ill advised as the rest of the film's missteps, and Cryer obviously bounced back after such a dismal showing.

Christopher Lee -- Captain America 2: Death Too Soon

Even an actor like Christopher Lee can manage to find himself in a film that's incredibly below his talents. Yet being pigeon-holed as a B-movie star in the 1970s lead to his participation in some rather low-quality fare, one such film being Captain America 2: Death Too Soon. But just as he did with every role he'd ever taken, Lee played the role of General Miguel with the same intensity and respect that he gave even his most top-tier resume entries. It may not be a memorable performance, but at the very least it's further proof that Lee could elevate any material he chose to become a part of.

Drew Barrymore -- Batman Forever

When Joel Schumacher took over the Batman franchise, the public should have seen the signs that the series was about to go to a bright, neon-colored hell. Though, to be fair, Batman Forever was nowhere near the abomination that Batman and Robin would become. Still, the third film in the series and the only entry with Val Kilmer playing the Caped Crusader and his alter-ego cast some interesting actors in supporting roles. One such actor, Drew Barrymore, was cast as Sugar -- one of Two Face's two girlfriends, who would cater to his every need. You probably didn't remember her, as she wasn't really given much to do, but trust us -- she's in there for a couple key scenes with Tommy Lee-Jones and Jim Carrey.

Kerry Washington -- Fantastic Four

Kerry Washington is best known for being a Scandal maker on ABC's TGIT line-up. But about a decade before she was raising hell in D.C., Washington was playing the role of Alicia in Fox's Fantastic Four duology. A blind artist who inhabits the world of the first super family in Marvel history, Alicia eventually became the love interest of Ben Grimm, after his transformation into The Thing had left him abandoned by his previous fiancé. Kerry Washington finds herself as only the third alum on this list that was cast in a role that allowed them to appear in a sequel, as her character was also seen in Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer.

Ian McKellen -- The Shadow

Some comic book movies don't deserve the pall of anonymity that they've accrued over the years since their release. Russell Mulcahy's The Shadow is definitely one of those films, as it stands with The Rocketeer and Dick Tracy as a retro-themed throwback that got buried at the box-office in the 1990's. While the film boasted Alec Baldwin at the top of his game playing Lamont Cranston / The Shadow, the film also managed to snag Ian McKellen as the atomic scientist / father to Cranston's love interest, Dr. Reinhardt Lane. Considering how early in the days of comic book movies The Shadow was, McKellen's involvement is a keen reminder of how the well-respected, classically trained actor has always had a spot in the geek pantheon with his name on it.

Catherine Zeta-Jones -- The Phantom

Right before she took her breakout role in Martin Campbell's The Mask Of Zorro, Catherine Zeta-Jones would jump on-board another pulpy project, as she was cast in the role of Sala in The Phantom. Another comic book movie that was made before the genre took off, Zeta-Jones was the adversary (and eventual ally) of Billy Zane's "ghost who walks." Interestingly enough, the obscurity of this role didn't seem to stop her from being linked to the proposed sequel that would come to prominence in 2008. But just as quickly as that franchise's return was announced, it was dashed in favor of a now defunct reboot. Still, it just goes to show that if you've lined up a franchise with Billy Zane in the lead, you'll probably want to work with him again, given the chance.

Kevin Smith -- Daredevil

Show us a bigger comic fan in Hollywood than Kevin Smith, and we'll show you either a liar. Smith has not only made his love for all things inked and traced well known, he's taken on some roles in comic properties just for the hell of it. The most obscure of those roles is, of course, as a coroner named "Jack Kirby" in Fox's Daredevil. With his appearance being nothing more than a cameo, Smith takes his place next to Stan Lee and Frank Miller as a comic writer who's made an appearance in the very comic that he's written for. Also, as a slight side-bar, we may never have had a Daredevil starring Ben Affleck if it wasn't for Smith convincing him to take the role, so take that as you may.

NCIS has been on the air for a whopping 13 seasons (and is renewed for more). In that time, a slew of famous faces have popped up on the series in guest starring roles and stints. While most of these appearances haven’t had the nerd cred that guests on The Big Bang Theory or various superhero shows have, many have been memorable in their own right. So, we culled through all of the names who have popped up on the show and ranked them by sheer awesomeness, how memorable their characters were and how well they were utilized within NCIS’ case-of-the-week plot.

10. Zac Efron

Back in Season 3, the CBS drama enlisted the help of Zac Efron in an episode called "Deception." It was a small role, but it gave Zac Efron the chance to shine before he was famous. In fact, the episode aired just a few short weeks before High School Musical hit the schedule, propelling the young actor to fame. The rest is history.

9. Lindsay Wagner

This is one of the few geeky castings that NCIS has indulged in. Anyone familiar with Bionic Woman should know Lindsay Wagnar played the lead in the 1970s TV series. She popped up more recently in a Season 13 episode that gave us a little more insight into Ellie’s backstory. Wagner played her mother, Barbara, who doled out plenty of life advice to her daughter and even shared some embarrassing Bishop stories with Gibbs during her time onscreen. It was a classic stint, and even better, there’s theoretically potential for her to pop back up in the future!

8. Terry O'Quinn

Honestly, it was really difficult choosing who to throw into this slot. There have been a handful of Lost alumni on the series over the years, and choosing between Josh Holloway—who was on NCIS back in 2004 before Lost started—Emilie de Ravin—who appeared way back in 2003—is never an easy prospect. What we liked about Terry O’Quinn’s gig was that the man played a recurring character on JAG during its run. Those who are familiar know that NCIS is a spinoff of JAG. While O’Quinn did play a different character on NCIS--one with a history with Gibbs--it was super cool that he could appear on both shows.

7. Lily Tomlin

We’ve obviously proven we’re fond of the family members of major characters showing up, especially when they are played by famous actors and actresses. In the Season 9 episode “The Penelope Papers,” Lily Tomlin was cast to play none other than McGee’s grandmother, an ex-hippie with some secrets related to hybrid caterpillars. Yes, it was a weird episode, but we're still thinking about it years and years later.

6. Abigail Breslin

Abigail Breslin is set to play the lead in the upcoming Dirty Dancing TV movie, but when she appeared on NCIS way back in 2004, she was much, much younger. The cute little girl had already appeared in Signs but this was even before her big Little Miss Sunshine debut. Still, you could tell in the Season 2 premiere that a star was being born, as Abigail Breslin played a young, blind pianist who was kidnapped and suffered under her captor, only to find out it was someone close to her who had kidnapped her later on. This was one NCIS stint we haven’t forgotten.

5. Bob Newhart

Comedian legend Bob Newhart was the star of several famous TV shows, but these days, he’s been crushing the world of guest stints. He’s probably more famous for guesting on The Big Bang Theory as the belated Professor Proton, but his role on NCIS was also a good one. He played Dr. Walter Magnus, the former NCIS chief medical examiner who was replaced by Donald Mallard. In the Season 8 episode, he came way out of retirement to help with a case, but it ended on a sad note when we learned Magnus was suffering from Alzheimers. NCIS doesn’t often get emotional, but this stint really had a big aww moment at the end.

4. Colin Hanks

Colin Hanks recently played an endearing cop on Fargo, but on NCIS, he was a quite a bit more unlikeable. Hanks’ character, Parsons, was around for 3 episodes in Season 11. During that time, the cast members actually referred to him as “Evil McGee,” because he looked similar to Sean Murray’s character, but was inherently nothing like him. Eventually Parsons’ plans to get Gibbs out of the game were foiled and the team moved forward, unimpeded. It was still a great guest stint, though.

3. Jon Cryer

Jon Cryer’s appearance on NCIS was really special, mostly because Cryer is a CBS alum who really loves the show. The long-running series figured out a way to sign the former Two and a Half Men actor on for several episodes. The actor played Navy surgeon Dr. Taft and saved Gibbs’ life early on in Season 13. Not a bad way to spend a multi-episode guest stint.

2. Billy Dee Williams

Star Wars actor Billy Dee Williams guest starred on NCIS back in the Season 10 episode “The Namesake”, playing Gibbs’ namesake Leroy Jethro Moore, who had a falling out with Gibbs’ father many years ago. While a case was still investigated during the episode, the big moment was when Gibbs’ dad and LJ finally met to make amends many years after their initial friendship fell apart. It’s a stint that nearly made the top of our list.

Like Jon Cryer and a few of the other guest stars on this list, Jamie Lee Curtis was important enough to pop up in multiple episodes, playing Gibbs’ girlfriend, Samantha Ryan. She’s not a basic love interest on the procedural, though. She proved helpful to Gibbs and the team with a case in Season 9 regarding Harper Dearing. Unfortunately, she also had a scary ex, and when Mr. Dearing helped her ex to leave prison, she dropped everything and left, thus ending what we feel was the greatest guest stint in the history of NCIS.

As Michael Douglas is about to enter the brainspaces of Marvel fanboys around the world with his role in Ant-Man later this summer, he has disappointed a legion of John Hughes fans by clearly having no idea what one of Hughes' best comedies, Pretty in Pink, is. Even when one of the stars is standing right in front of him. Check out the charade-filled hilarity in the Tonight Show clip below.

Some people assume that once celebrities reach a certain precipice of fame that they completely lose track of the pop culture-scape around them. Perhaps that can explain Michael Douglas’ mental blind spot for 1986’s Pretty in Pink, which came out in between Douglas’ Jewel of the Nile and the blockbuster tandem of 1987’s Fatal Attraction and Wall Street. Maybe he just wasn’t going to the movies at that point, and then never looked back.

But nobody seems to have explained that assumption to Jon Cryer, Pretty in Pink’s Duckie, who is consistently slammed with aghast incomprehension as Douglas fails to correctly guess one of a tiny handful of three-letter-word films that starts with “Pretty.” This basically sums up his entire round.

Douglas threw out a Two and a Half Men comment at Cryer, which proves he didn’t spend the whole time wondering who “that stubbled guy” was. And to give him credit, Douglas did remember what the “Macarena” was, over 20 years later, even if it took him forever to remember how to do just one part of the dance. And if we’re being honest, that’s the only part of the dance that I remember, and that’s got way more to do with bludgeoned brain cells than mega-fame on my part.

The rest of the game goes well enough, as the pairing of Fallon and 2 Broke Girls star Kat Dennings destroyed. Not that House of Cards, SpongeBob SquarePants and Of Mice and Men are ridiculously hard to charade – kudos to Dennings for mostly blindly guessing the latter – but then neither is Pretty in Pink.

Here’s how I think Duckie would have handled that slight.

There are not a ton of people who can say they were front and center when Charlie Sheen had a major breakdown, returning to drugs and booze during the 2010-2011 TV season. One of the people who was in the middle of Sheen’s time of trouble was Two and A Half Men actor Jon Cryer, who recently spoke out about Sheen’s erratic behavior during his final days on set. Production on the sitcom was shut down early in 2011 and Sheen was eventually fired from the hit CBS series.

Cryer recently spoke out about Sheen during a lengthy editorial with THR. During a taping in January 2011, Warner Bros.’ Bruce Rosenblum and Peter Roth wanted to meet Sheen on the set to make sure he could still handle his job responsibilities. On the Friday they showed up, Two and a Half Men was taping in front of a large studio audience and apparently, Sheen was shit, forgetting all of his lines. Cryer relates that Sheen eventually asked for a minute and got it together enough to “completely nail” every line during Round 2. But it would be the last time Cryer would ever see Sheen go to bat like that. Here’s what happened next:

Soon after Sheen’s firing, he became a pop culture sensation for erratic behavior on social media and in interviews, regaling us with tales of tiger blood and “winning” at life. Luckily, Sheen eventually got his life back on track, but by then, the CBS comedy had moved on, hiring Ashton Kutcher to lead the series in his place. In fact, Sheen’s character, Charlie Harper, was supposedly killed off the series in an off-camera accident during Kutcher’s introductory episode. The era of Charlie Harper on Two and a Half Men was over, until it wasn’t.

Two and Half Men ended up running on CBS for four seasons after Charlie Sheen’s departure, ending its run just a few weeks ago. Shortly before the finale, Sheen expressed interest in returning to the series, despite getting killed off. And while the Two and a Half Men finale did feature Charlie Harper—(spoiler: who had lived on thanks to getting kidnapped by Rose)—but via an animated sequence and a look-alike rather than an actual appearance from Sheen. Knowing what the cast and crew went through during his troubled times, it’s probably better that the final cameo never happened.

CBS’s Two and a Half-Men is finally coming to an end. After 12 seasons, the long running raunchy sitcom will finish with a one hour final farewell slated to be on Thursday February 19th, a full 262 episodes into Men’s historic run. The series became a staple under the guidance of star Charlie Sheen and 80’s mainstay Jon Cryer, with the tutelage of show runner Chuck Lorre who acted as producer on the series. The show garnered a total of 37 Emmy Award nominations during its run, with Jon Cryer nabbing two statuettes for his own mantle. Despite production shake ups and multiple time slots, Two and a Half Men stood the test of time for CBS and company.

News of the show’s imminent finale first came from Insidetv.ew and did not seem to cause much shock amongst industry insiders. Following star Charlie Sheen’s very public freak out in 2011, things didn’t look good for the stalwart sitcom, but replacing him with Ashton Kutcher got them across the finish line. Soon after Sheen’s departure, Kutcher and Cryer then lost the “Half” of the show when the kid, longtime co-star Angus T. Jones, made overwhelmingly disparaging comments on camera about the long running program. So long, Jake.

Still, the ratings were there and with solid lead-ins, people forgot about Charlie and Jake in good time. Initially pundits did not think that the production could survive without Sheen, who basically played himself as a hard drinking, hooker loving louse that occasionally wrote a TV jingle to pay for his affluent life style. But CBS found a way and managed to skew younger with Kutcher taking Sheen’s place.

Sure there’s some hope that Charlie will return in the final installment, but let’s not hold our breath. It is a longshot at best to see Sheen eat crow and return to his old cash cow.

After a dozen years, Two and a Half Men has finally figured out when to quit and will do so with whatever large breasted co-eds that they can squeeze in to the finale. The show will live on in syndication, where fans can relive the early days when the series was just two bro’s in their 30’s trying to raise a kid.

After 12 seasons, Men will end with a one-hour closer on Thursday, Feb. 19 at 9 p.m. Taking Two and a Half Men’s vacant time-slot is CBS’s long gestating Odd Couple reboot toplined by Friends star Matthew Perry.

Before Two and a Half Men was a huge ratings phenomenon for CBS, Jon Cryer was more famous for playing Duckie in the eighties John Hughes classic Pretty in Pink. Now headed into its 12th season, Two and a Half Men is going to have Cryer channel his movie past in the show’s special Halloween-oriented premiere episode. Just look at that blazer, that hat and those sunglasses. It’s sort of amazing that Cryer is now nearly fifty and can still capably channel his inner teen. I know that CBS has plenty of resources at their disposal to come up with picture perfect Halloween costumes, but it doesn’t make Cryer’s Halloween look any less classic.

Over the years, Pretty in Pink has become a seminal movie about teen romance. In the film, Duckie was a wild dresser and kid from the wrong side of the tracks who had an unrequited love for the female lead in the movie, Andie. While he didn’t end up winning the girl, his story still ended up on a happy note, and his over-the-top character has grown iconic in the years subsequent. If you think the clothes and the youthful makeup complete the Two and a Half Men version of Duckie, you just have to check out those shoes Cryer has on, below.

If you can’t tell who it is with all of the crazy zombie makeup, Cryer’s Alan is preparing to head out on the town with Ashton Kutcher’s Walden. Walden’s zombie costume is actually pretty impressive, as well, with makeup that’s better than anyone but a makeup artist could have applied. Unfortunately, the episode won’t be filled with all fun and games. According to CBS, the episode will feature a “health scare” on Halloween that will cause Walden to “reprioritize” his life.

If I had to guess, the Halloween plotline will kick off the storyline that will define Season 12. If you’ve been keeping up with the Two and a Half men castings and rumors, you should already know that Psych actress Maggie Lawson has joined the cast in a recurring role. She’s set to play a social working helping Alan and Walden to adopt a baby. During Season 12, Alan and Walden will create a gay ruse in order to try and get an adoption group to give them a baby to raise. There’s a lot that we could say about this particularly ridiculous plotline, but for now let’s just enjoy the moment and those odd and strangely wonderful Halloween Two and a Half Men pics.

It's been a fine balancing act here at TV Blend. One minute you have to cover the latest Charlie Sheen Roast or Anger Management news, the next it's back to covering the pieces as they are picked up on CBS' Two and a Half Men. I just brought you the latest two promos for the Comedy Central Roast of the tiger-blooded actor and now, I've got some casting news for his former series. Love interests for both of our men have been added... sorry kid, nothing for the half.

Some time ago, details regarding Ashton Kutcher's character started to emerge though the foggy atmosphere surrounding the CBS staple, the most important of which was that our new star/character will be a little love-sick. Who did the Kutch contract this sickness from? Well, TVGuide is reporting that Arrested Development alum (and all around great comedic actress) Judy Greer will be entering the show as the cause of Kutcher's romantic woes.

In fact "Greer will play Bridget, who's in the process of divorcing Internet billionaire Walden Schmidt." Yes, Walden Schmidt is Ashton's name on the show and apparently he's in the midst of a messy divorce. Greer is expected to appear in several episodes over the course of the season and oddly enough, as TVGuide notes, this isn't her first appearance on the show as she did a couple episodes as a Charlie love-interest in 2007.

Divorce for the newcomer, I wonder if the other female addition offers a little more romantic promise for Jon Cryer's Alan Harper. According to EW, one of Cryer's former flames is making a return to the show. Courtney Thorne-Smith is set to reprise her role as she "previously had a 10-episode arc on the show as Lyndsey McElroy, a love interest for Jon Cryer's character." The actress last appeared on the show near the middle of last season and why she's returning is being kept hush-hush. I would assume it's either to torture Alan or to allow Alan to blow it again, either way it's all for our amusement.

Two and a Half Men returns to CBS on Monday, September 19 at 9 p.m.
