After actors win big at the awards shows, they tend to become pretty highly sought after, so it’s fun to watch what projects they choose to do next. Michael B. Jordan has a new movie out — his first since winning Best Actor at the Academy Awards — and it’s currently No. 1 on Netflix. However, critics are being much more, well, critical of Swapped than Netflix subscription holders, so let’s dig into what they’re all saying.

Swapped, an animated adventure comedy starring Michael B. Jordan and Juno Temple, hit the 2026 Netflix schedule on May 1. The Oscar winner plays Ollie, a sea otter-like creature called a pookoo, who swaps bodies with Temple’s Ivy, who is a bird called a javan. Hilarity ensues ... at least according to audiences, who collectively rated the movie at 87% on Rotten Tomatoes. The critics’ score, meanwhile, was at 71% as of this writing and had dropped into the 60th percentile at one point.

What Critics Are Saying About Michael B. Jordan’s Swapped

For David Ehrlich of IndieWire, a lot of the issue seems to lie within a script that’s powered by generic banter. The movie lacks ambition, and the story feels pilfered from other pre-existing movies. He gives it a C, writing:

John Serba of Decider says it’s a “prime example of children’s films that underestimate their audiences’ intelligence.” Unfortunately one symptom of that is the poop joke. Serba says:

Benjamin Lee of The Guardian says it might just be a case of bad timing — noting that Swapped was in development before Hoppers — but the popular Pixar flick seems like “a stone-cold classic in comparison” to this Skydance Animation offering. He gives it 2 out of 5 stars and says:

The critics make some good points, so that begs the question …

What Did Audiences Like About Swapped?

As noted by the critics, yes, the plot of Swapped is inevitably drawing comparisons to Hoppers, another 2026 movie release. However, viewers think there’s room enough for both, with Rotten Tomatoes comments including:

• "Swapped" is such a sweet, feel-good family movie. It’s fun and engaging, but also carries a beautiful message about empathy—learning to see life through someone else’s eyes and understanding their feelings. It’s simple, heartfelt, and leaves you with a warm reminder of what really matters. – Maryam N.
• The structure of the movie was perfect. The background information of each character was displayed at perfect timing to understand how they got where they are. – Trey G.
• Bro this MOVIEEEEE! Insane plot twist, insane climax, made me cry. The conflicts were so good. The chemistry and banter was good. ATEEEEE – Waniya S.

Oh yes, that plot twist. Apparently, it’s a biggie, because a lot of the audience reactions were primarily centered around it. See below:

People praised the story and the gorgeous animation, and more than one said they had tears streaming down their faces. In the end, Braydan S. possibly said it best:

This is certainly an interesting project for Michael B. Jordan to follow his Oscar win with, but to be fair, both Swapped and Jordan’s The Thomas Crown Affair — a 2027 release on which MBJ serves as director, producer and star — were both in the works long before this year’s Oscars, so it remains to be seen where the actor takes his talents next.

In the meantime, you’ll have to decide for yourselves if you want to side with the moodier critics or believe the Rotten Tomatoes audience who made Swapped the No. 1 movie on Netflix.

We officially have our first teaser trailer for Ted Lasso Season 4, and even though it’s short, it sparked a whole lot of thoughts. In fact, in the span of its one-minute and change runtime, I was specifically left with two questions I hope the show answers right when it returns on the 2026 TV schedule.

Did Ted Return To Richmond In A Way That Lets His Son Stay With Him?

The whole reason Ted left AFC Richmond at the end of Ted Lasso Season 3 was to be with his son, Henry. So, for him to go back across the pond, I’d assume they need to find a way to keep the coach and his family, specifically his son, together. To me, if they don’t, it will feel like a disservice to the way things were left the last time we checked in with the optimistic coach.

However, I really think they will find a way to do this. For Season 4, they’ve recast Henry – Grant Feely plays him now – and in the trailer, we get to see him as well as Ted’s ex-wife in the stands. Ted’s son has also appeared in images released for Season 4, which seems to imply that he’ll play a bigger role in this story.

So, that leaves me hopeful that they’ve found a way for Jason Sudeikis' character to coach this team he loves while keeping the people he loves the most close. I want Ted to be happy first and foremost, and I think he needs this team and his family to do that, so hopefully they stay together this time.

What’s Going On With Roy And Keeley?

When Season 3 ended, Roy and Keeley were in a fine-ish place, but they weren’t together. However, this teaser seems to allude to the idea that something is going on, and I can’t tell if it’s good or bad. Toward the start of the footage, Brett Goldstein and Juno Temple’s characters give each other a longing look that confused me, and it made me wonder if they’re keeping a secret. And Higgins confused reaction to this look further confirmed that yes, I should be reading into this with a bit of caution.

Then, later in the trailer, we get to see Roy and Keeley in a car together, as Goldstein’s character smashes a sunroof in. Why were they in the car together? Are they stuck? What were they so dressed up for? Was it a work function or a date? The questions just keep coming based on these few seconds, and I’m hopeful that we’ll get some clarity about the state of their relationship as the great Apple TV series returns.

Obviously, I have more than two questions about Ted Lasso coming back, as we got to see the new women's team and coach as well as other beloved characters, like Hannah Waddingham’s Rebecca (who seems to be with that pilot), Jeremy Swift’s Higgins and Brendan Hunt’s Beard in the trailer too. So, I can’t wait to see what new questions and theories pop up as we actually begin to watch the show.

However, these two things are what I couldn’t stop wondering about as I pondered this first trailer, and you better believe it’s what will be on my mind until I can use my Apple TV subscription to watch the Season 4 premiere on Wednesday, August 5.

When I heard the title Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die for the first time, I assumed the movie would be a blast and a half, and I figured it’d be pretty silly, too. That is all true. However, this film also terrifies me to no end, and that was a surprise. Now, I’ve had time to think about all of this, and overall, I’m thrilled that this outlandish sci-fi adventure that scares me got made.

In Gore Verbinski’s Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die, a man from the future (Sam Rockwell) comes to a time that’s slightly more advanced than the present we live in to assemble a team of people to save the world from artificial intelligence. However, that team has to be made up of the seemingly random set of folks who are eating at a diner the future man enters. So, with his rag-tag group made up of a couple of teachers (Michael Peña and Zazie Beetz), a woman dressed as a princess (Haley Lu Richardson), a mom (Juno Temple), and a few other diner patrons, he sets out to save the world.

That concept alone proves just how silly this movie is, and the humor laced into it hammers the point home. However, along with this being a goofy story, it also has points to make about our society that genuinely freak me out.

Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die is a big silly swing of a movie.

Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die starts with Sam Rockwell’s character doing a big monologue about the future and his mission to a diner of confused people while wearing a bizarre plastic outfit that makes him look both more technologically advanced than us and homeless. And from his first second on screen, I knew I was in for a good time. Truly, from start to finish, his grisly and slightly unhinged future man is a hoot, and it feels like the Oscar-winner had a wonderful time playing him.

The fun he seems to be having is infectious, and when that mixes with the outlandish plot involving AI that is trying to take over the world, you get a very odd, big swing of a story.

It works for the most part, too, and it is a ride. However, this concept also sets that stage for some serious (and scary) discussions about the world we’re living in.

The social commentary in Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die is what legitimately scares me.

I’ve always been a bit squeamish when it comes to movies about the end times; they spook me. However, they really scare me when the cause of said end times is something we’re currently dealing with in the present. It's the sprinkle of social commentary that always leaves me in a spiral, and that’s why Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die horrifies me.

In the case of this movie, that evil is AI. I’m not gonna lie: AI scares the living daylights out of me. So, the fact that artificial intelligence was the problem here immediately made me tense.

But that’s not what really gets me. What truly gets under my skin are two of the issues the various diner patrons deal with. The teachers have to handle students who are so brainwashed by their phones that they cannot function. Meanwhile, after a school shooting, a mom has to grapple with the death of her son and the technology available to help her get him back (in a way). In both cases, most of the people involved are hypnotized by technology and desensitized to the trauma around them.

I worry about how technology is hindering us as a society, and I have concerns about how desensitized we can become to truly awful things. So, to see both fears viscerally portrayed in this movie sent me spiraling a bit, even with the comedic sensibilities paired with them.

However, I think that's a good thing. I love that Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die is a silly sci-fi quest that also has some dark social commentary in its DNA. It makes for a movie that you’ll have a good time watching, but will also think about afterward. I know it has certainly stuck with me, and that’s 100% because I did have fun, but also left terrified.

Filmmaker Gore Verbinski has been entertaining movie lovers for decades with films like The Ring, Pirates of the Caribbean and Rango, but after a couple of flops, he disappeared for a decade. Finally the director has returned with Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die, a sci-fi action-comedy that hits the 2026 movie calendar on February 13. Critics have seen the flick and are generally in agreement about this “bonkers” return.

Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die stars Sam Rockwell as a man from the future who’s caught in a time loop as he attempts to save the world from the A.I.-dominated era he came from. Haley Lu Richardson, Michael Peña, Zazie Beetz, Juno Temple and more also star in the flick that’s being celebrated by critics including Kristy Puchko of Mashable, who calls Gore Verbinski’s middle finger to A.I. “earnest and human and utterly bonkers,” writing:

Chris Bumbray of JoBlo rates the upcoming action film a “Great” 8 out of 10, admitting that Gore Verbinski is taking a wild swing with Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die, but it’s one of the more “invigorating and original pieces of sci-fi” the critic has seen in a long time. Bumbray says:

Peter Debruge of Variety says Sam Rockwell carries the comedy of the movie, particularly with his character’s exaggerated impatience with a society that needs to be scolded as much as it needs to be saved. Debruge’s review of Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die reads:

Aidan Kelley of Collider also gives it an 8 out of 10, saying this “raucous” sci-fi action flick is filled to the brim with absurdist comedy, creative insults, frenetic camera work and insightful commentary on the state of the world. In Kelley's words:

David Rooney of THR says it’s good to have Gore Verbinski back behind the camera, and Sam Rockwell is great with his “wry balance of doofus, savant and wisea--,” but it falls just short of expectations with a script that isn’t as funny or fresh as it should be. Rooney continues:

When Ted Lasso came to a close with Season 3, it was unclear if it would return for a fourth installment. While many stories came to a close and Ted returned to Kansas, there were also doors left open, setting up the beloved Apple TV+ series for a return if it wanted one. Well, now it’s coming back, so here’s what we know so far and what the cast of Ted Lasso has said about Season 4.

What We Know About Ted Lasso Season 4

Season 4 of Ted Lasso is up and running, folks! It was announced that filming began in Kansas City on July 21, which means we’re one giant step closer to the titular coach making his way back to AFC Richmond and our screens.

Along with production being confirmed, the cast of Season 4 was also revealed. We know that Jason Sudeikis will be back as Ted alongside Hannah Waddingham’s Rebecca, Juno Temple’s Keeley, Jeremy Swift’s Higgins, Brett Goldstein’s Roy and Brendan Hunt’s Coach Beard.

We also learned about some of the new cast too, and while their characters weren’t revealed, I assume they’ll be playing at least some of the AFC Richmond women’s football team. The new folks joining the cast include: Tanya Reynolds, Jude Mack, Faye Marsay, Rex Hayes, Aisling Sharkey and Abbie Hern.

Also, Ted’s son Henry will be back in the show; however, Grant Feely is taking over the role from Gus Turner.

Notably, some big names from the original Ted Lasso cast are missing, like Nick Mohammed, Phil Dunster and Toheeb Jimoh, who played Nate, Jamie and Sam, respectively. It’s unclear if they’ll make appearances in the show, and I’m crossing my fingers that we at least get a cameo from the beloved members of the men's team.

Jason Sudeikis Confirmed Ted Lasso Season 4 Is Happening

March 14, 2025, was the day Ted Lasso Season 4 was officially confirmed after months of rumors and speculation. Back in 2024, co-creator Bill Lawrence said this show’s return would be up to Jason Sudeikis. Then, on this spring day, Mr. Sudeikis finally addressed it all.

Verifying that a senior season is happening, the man behind Ted Lasso said on New Heights:

On top of confirming that Season 4 was in the works, the SNL alum explained where the story is headed, saying:

Back when Season 3 of Ted Lasso ended, I guessed that it could continue with a women’s team, considering Keeley’s proposal to Rebecca. So, it’s exciting to know that this vision could very well become a reality with the help of the titular mustachioed coach.

Brett Goldstein Compared Ted Lasso Coming Back To A Dead Cat Coming Back To Life

On the heels of Ted Lasso Season 4’s confirmation, Brett Goldstein was asked about returning. The actor plays Roy Kent in the show and serves as a writer, so he has the inside scoop.

When asked about how it felt to say goodbye to the show, only to come back, on Wild Card with Rachel Martin, the Emmy winner told a wild story about a dead cat coming back to life. He explained that a friend of his thought his cat had died, so they buried the body and mourned it. Then, they found out they didn’t bury their cat; it was someone else’s, and their pet eventually did come back.

After hearing that story, Goldstein was asked, “Did you bring Ted Lasso back from the dead?” In response, he said:

It’s an odd story to tell, but it also makes sense. In a lot of ways, it did feel like Ted Lasso was gone forever, and we came to terms with it never coming back.

However, it’s back, as the Shrinking co-creator explained:

So, the wheels are in motion, the cat is alive, and one of these days we’ll be making our way back to Richmond with Jason Sudeikis, Brett Goldstein and more.

Hannah Waddingham Would 'Always' Play Rebecca, And Compared Returning To An ‘Exhumed Dog’

Now, let me take you back to a time before Season 4 was confirmed, but after a report spread that the soccer comedy was coming back. In that claim, it was alleged that Hannah Waddingham, Brett Goldstein and Jeremy Swift had been in talks to return. So, about a month after that news broke in August 2024, the Rebecca actress was asked about it.

As you can imagine, Waddingham got hilariously real about returning to Ted Lasso, telling ET:

She was also asked if there was a script, and she said, “Of course, there’s no script.”

However, now she knows some things. There is a script, and Ted Lasso is filming Season 4. Right before all that, though, Waddingham was asked about coming back, and like Brett Goldstein, compared the feeling to an animal coming back to life. She told Variety:

I am also here for it! And I cannot wait to see the owner of AFC Richmond back in action and bossing everyone around as they get this new team up and running.

Nick Mohammed Is Unsure If He’ll Be In Ted Lasso Season 4

Nick Mohammed has always been quite cheeky when it comes to this comedy. However, he also keeps it real and has been clear about not knowing if he’ll be in Season 4.

When rumors about Ted Lasso’s return started swirling, the Nate actor used his X account to tease Season 4. Also, when he had to move some Mr. Swallow tour dates for his comedy show, he said it was because of “some filming.” In that clip, he asked people not to “speculate” about what this filming was for. However, he did hold up a “believe” sign and captioned his post with #tedlasso. So, read into that what you will.

That happened in January, and when Season 4 was confirmed in March, Mohammed posted this on X:

After all that, Mohammed explained that he does not know if Nate will be back. While on The Comedian’s Comedian Podcast, he said the following about the potential to reprise his role:

He did say that he’s had “dates checked,” so it’s possible. However, he hasn’t seen scripts. There’s no bad blood, though. He made sure of that by explaining why it makes sense that not everyone from the OG show would come back:

Juno Temple Explained Why Her Feelings About A Ted Lasso Spinoff Are 'Complicated'

When Season 4 reports were running rampant, Keeley actress Juno Temple was asked about them. Like Waddingham, she didn’t have any official news. However, she did share her thoughts on Ted Lasso’s potential return, telling EW:

So, Temple wasn’t quite sure what was going on. However, she did note that she’d heard whispers.

She also explained, understandably, that she’d only want to return for a spinoff or continuation if everyone was involved. However, she also expressed her interest in a story about Richmond’s women’s team, saying:

Well, I think she’ll be thrilled to know that Season 4 of Ted Lasso will be about a women’s team, and hopefully it will involve all of the original cast, too.

Cristo Fernández Had A Very Dani Rojas Reaction To Season 4 Claims

Of course, we’ve got a comment from one of the Richmond players, too. Back when Season 4 reports started rolling around, Cristo Fernández was asked about coming back to play Dani Rojas in the series after reprising the role in a State Farm ad.

While on The Cooligans podcast, the actor noted that he’d read the news, and said he’d love to return, saying:

I don’t think Ted Lasso would be Ted Lasso without Dani screaming, “Fútbol is life!” So, hopefully, this lovely actor can come back. He clearly wants to, and I bet the fans would want it, too.

As Ted Lasso chatter surrounding Season 4's fate continues optimistically, co-star Juno Temple is sharing her thoughts on where Keeley's story may have gone after Season 3's events. Specifically, she gave her personal opinion on how that love triangle with Jamie and Roy may have ended. I both love that she said it, and I even hope she's right.

While the fanbase continues to grow as more viewers discover the joy of Ted Lasso with their Apple TV+ subscriptions, Temple talked to EW about Season 3's ending, in which Keeley shot down both Roy and Jamie when they showed up at her door demanding that she make her choice. Now, Temple addressed her take on the aftermath and who she thinks Keeley ended up with, which may or may not be proven true if Season 4 happens. As she put it:

I'm not surprised by her opinion exactly, but I"m psyched to hear that's how she feels all the same. While Jamie had a wonderful redemption arc and ended up being a solid guy, Roy and Keeley shared some of the best moments in Ted Lasso. I thought it was stupid they broke up in the first place in Season 3, so I'm happy to hear Temple believes their kinship survived any hiccups.

Sorry to those who love Jamie Tart, but there is some consolation here. Let's remember that Juno Temple isn't on theTed Lasso creative team behind the scenes, so her thoughts about Keeley's romantic direction may not match up with what may happen if Season 4 happens.

Plus, the actress still likes Phil Dunster's character. Even if she's a Roy fan, Temple admitted that either outcome would be a win for her character, saying:

This is all the more reason we should be happy that Brett Goldstein ended up playing Roy and not the Ted Lasso character he was originally pitched as. Sad to say, though, Juno Temple thinking that Roy and Keeley will get back together has done nothing to satiate my appetite for the show, and if anything, I feel a little more desperate to see it come back for Season 4.

One big barrier in bringing the series back, it would seem is locking down the schedules of its cast. It's unclear whether or not rising stars like Phil Dunster will be available to play Jamie anytime soon, and we know Brett Goldstein has joined the MCU. Still, it seems there's interest in making it happen somehow. We just have to wait on the details as they become available.

I’m not going to lie, I haven’t let myself fully believe in Ted Lasso’s return, despite the many reports about Ted Lasso Season 4. At the moment, this Apple TV+ staple’s future is still very up in the air, and the show’s titular star and co-creator, Jason Sudeikis, hasn’t confirmed anything. However, Juno Temple recently shared an update about what could come next as well as her thoughts on a spinoff, and they’re making me believe again!

Juno Temple Shares And Update About Ted Lasso Season 4

We’ve heard reports about who may or may not be returning to Ted Lasso, but at the moment, nothing is officially set in stone. However, it does seem highly likely that some sort of new season is being worked on, especially after hearing what Keeley actress Juno Temple told EW about Season 4:

She might still be fairly clueless about what’s happening like the rest of us. However, it’s reassuring to know that the Keeley actress thinks a Season 4 “might” be in the works and that it “sounds like those cogs are turning.” So, fingers crossed something actually comes from this, and she gets to play the PR aficionado again.

However, in the meantime, Temple also addressed the talk about her character getting a spinoff.

Juno Temple Explained Her Take On The Potential For A Ted Lasso Spinoff

Ted Lasso’s Season 3 finale left multiple doors open for spinoffs. However, if it were up to Temple, just a Season 4 would be ideal. Speaking to that point and Keeley’s future, she explained:

I totally get what she’s saying. If one of Apple TV+’s best shows does indeed come back, I’d want the entire Ted Lasso cast to return too – even if the titular character’s story concluded in Season 3.

With that in mind, Temple was asked about her character's final moments in Season 3. I’ve always thought that a potential Ted Lasso continuation could be in the form of a spinoff about Keeley and Rebecca starting an AFC Richmond women’s team. However, it could also be a plotline explored in Season 4. Speaking about this specific road her character could go down, the Emmy-nominated performer said:

I agree, it would make a great storyline, and I’m so here for Temple’s enthusiasm.

Overall, her passion for the project and its potential plus her vague and slightly confused optimism about it is in line with the rest of the Ted Lasso team. Hannah Waddingham enthusiastically addressed the reports, saying she didn’t know what was going on, but absolutely adores Rebecca and this show. Meanwhile, showrunner Bill Lawrence it all comes down to Jason Sudeikis and what he wants to do next.

That’s what this all hinges on too. While I adore Temple’s comments and think they warrant hope, ultimately, we won’t really know what’s going on with Ted Lasso’s future until Mr. Sudeikis says something about it. As of right now, he hasn’t.

So, for now, I guess we’ll just hang on to hope, re-watch the show with our Apple TV+ subscriptions, and believe in believe while we wait for more information about Season 4.

The world of Disney's live-action movies is a competitive one, and not everyone makes the cut. With plenty more live-action Disney remakes on the horizon, the opportunities are open, but the stakes are higher than ever. Many people have tried out for the blockbusters, including Ted Lasso’s Juno Temple, and she had some surprising lessons she learned during the process.

Interview Magazine had The Offer alums Juno Temple, who wrapped up Noah Hawley’s Fargo on our 2024 TV release schedule, and Miles Teller, who will be showing up on our 2025 movie release schedule. The duo covered all things Hollywood; more specifically, how to deal when realizing some roles are just not meant for some actors, and why that’s okay.

Temple shared that she learned that being able to take the ‘nos’ in stride and how it’s helped her grow in her career, particularly for Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland. She said:

Even with the tough blow, Temple went on to see the movie and realized why Burton didn’t have a space for her in Wonderland. The time, space and final product of a movie all take into specific account who can fill the specific shoes the best, and the Atonement alum realized she wasn’t close to the vision.

Juno Temple also mentioned that she still took her chance with other Disney remakes, including Cinderella, only to continue to realize what was true of the modern Alice. She shared:

Early on, the 35-year-old found the understanding and grace to accept the rejections, move through understandingly and even offer the name of peers better suited for a role. That’s pretty impressive for a young person in Hollywood, especially since Temple knew she could have acted in the opposite.

People like Temple are the real royalty of Hollywood–looking for the best ways to be supportive of their peers and the projects themselves. Even if the Disney auditions didn’t go as planned for her, as she promotes the last of the Venom franchise, we've learned she really gained a magical perspective in the process, and people are taking note of her talents now.

Rebecca and Keeley have always been bestie goals on Ted Lasso. However, the women who play them, Hannah Waddingham and Juno Temple, are also BFFLs in real life too. Now, the actresses are proving they are the cutest pair of pals once again as Waddingham showed up to support Temple at the UK premiere of Venom: The Last Dance ahead of its release on the 2024 movie schedule.

Of course, like Keeley and Rebecca, these two Ted Lasso cast members attended the premiere in style. Waddingham wore a maxi latex dress by Atsuko Kudo, per The Daily Mail, while Temple rocked an edgy cutout dress that featured a long black skirt and a top with lots of rectangular cutouts. The ladies look absolutely stunning in these Venom-esque fits, and what’s even better is they look fabulous together, take a look:

The dresses they are wearing are actually perfect too, and they're so on-brand for Venom's premiere. Also, and most importantly, seeing Waddingham show up for her co-star and friend to support her latest release is the most heartwarming thing; talk about friendship goals.

On top of all that, this Ted Lasso reunion is also reigniting my curiosity about whether the show will ever continue past Season 3.

Since Season 3 of Ted Lasso ended in May of 2023, all of us fans have been waiting to find out if we’ll ever see the AFC Richmond crew again. At the moment, that future is unclear. However, there are reports that Season 4 of the soccer comedy could happen, and recently a Warner Bros. exec said it’s early days, but they’re excited about the direction the series is moving in.

Plus, Temple has said Ted Lasso’s finale “didn’t feel like an ending” for Keeley. Meanwhile, when asked about those Season 4 reports, Waddingham declared she didn’t know what was going on, but she did say that they’d be “stupid not to” come back if Jason Sudeikis decided he wanted to continue the series.

So, while we hold out for more solid news on seeing characters like Rebecca Welton and Keeley Jones again, it’s extra lovely to see the cast together outside of the show.

Many of them have found great success since the series ended (for now) too. For example, Waddingham has starred in movies like The Fall Guy. Brett Goldstein is working on another fantastic Apple TV+ series called Shrinking. Phil Dunster has been killing it on the stage. And, along with staring in the latest season of Fargo, Temple plays a part in the third Venom film that’s hitting theaters this Friday.

Therefore, while the future of Ted Lasso is still up in the air, there’s plenty to celebrate, and Hannah Waddingham and Juno Temple did so in fashion!

While MCU fans can still expect tons of adventures in myriad upcoming Marvel movies hitting the 2025 movie schedule and beyond, it doesn't sound like Tom Hardy's Venom will be around to cause chaos for it, at least if one believes Hardy's claims that he's finished with the role. But Eddie Brock still has to save the universe, or at least parts of Nevada, from utter destruction in Sony's superhero sequel Venom: The Last Dance.

The third film centers on Eddie and Venom trying to thwart an incoming alien threat spearheaded by comic book baddie Knull (portrayed by Let There Be Carnage helmer Andy Serkis), which brings a handful of other body-usurping symbiotes into the picture. Co-starring such talents as Juno Temple and Chiwetel Ejiofor, Venom: The Last Dance is hitting theaters on Friday, October 25, but not before the first wave of reviews from critics and early screenings could go public. And let's just say I hope nobody had high hopes for Knull as a crowd-pleaser.

I think anyone would agree that Sony's Venom movies are widely viewed as money-making fan-pleasers, as opposed to critical darlings in any way shape are form. They're more like critical gargoyles where the bird poop just doesn't wash off, and many of the same complaints are being made about this film as well. CinemaBlend's Venom review and Venom: Let There Be Carnage review fell on the low side. And in his Venom: the Last Dance review, our own Eric Eisenberg was not in the slightest bit impressed with any of the film's Dance moves either, slamming the film as being the embodiment of "shit happens," as opposed to a legitimate story.

ComicBook.com's Kofi Outlaw put the film on major blast by calling it "Sony's next Madame Web" while offering some praise for screenwriter and first-time director Kelly Marcel, saying her love for the franchise and character is obvious. But the critic then questions why that innate fandom would lead her to craft a finished product that puts more emphasis on new characters and non-Venom elements, and goes on to say:

Alison Willmore of Vulture is one of many critics who take direct aim at the multiversal nature of Knull as a villain — in a movie where Hardy's character says he's "done with that multiverse shit," no less — and how much his muddled exposition and one-note storyline rules detract from the mindless enjoyment that feels more like its true element.

Kristy Puchko of Mashable is all for scenes that showcase Tom Hardy's back-and-forth shenanigans in full, but like seemingly everyone else, has little to zero patience for any moments that pull focus away to track the gloom-mongering villain.

CBR's Howard Waldstein calls outVenom: The Last Dance as being on par with Joker: Folie à Deux as bottom-of-the-barrel superhero fare, saying Tom Hardy is at his all-time laziest in this sequel, extending from the narrative notion that Eddie Brock himself is suffering from an extended hangover and lack of sleep. This critic also wasn't impressed by the film's more absurd sequences, nor the side story involving The Amazing Spider-Man vet Rhys Ifans as a UFO-seeker and his van family.

David Erlich of IndieWire is responsible for one of the few reviews that came from a somewhat positive outlook, though one that's entirely self-aware of how flagrantly ridiculous Tom Hardy's dedication to this two-headed role can be, and how the three films' other creative elements never come close to being as enjoyable as Eddie and Venom's "Greatest Love Story in Superhero Movie History." As he put it:

I don't think anyone will be surprised to learn that the critics who didn't like the first two Venom films didn't about-face so hard for The Last Dance that whiplash kept them from turning their reviews in on time. But anyone who already adores this wonky superhero buddy comedy may just find themselves having a great time at the theater, assuming Venom doesn't slap the popcorn out of everyone's hands while seeking out chocolate.

Venom: The Last Dance hits theaters on Friday, October 25, and is looking at box office projects hitting somewhere around $65 million in the U.S. for its first weekend, and around $85 million from overseas tallies.

The upcoming Venom: The Last Dance will mark the third entry in the Tom Hardy-led trilogy as well as the fifth overall installment in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe. At this point, the SSU hasn’t seen too many successes, with Hardy’s two films having been the most profitable at the box office thus far. 2022’s Morbius didn’t strike much of a chord and, more recently, Madame Web bombed as well. With those facts in mind, one has to wonder whether the cast of the upcoming threequel feels any pressure for their movie to be a hit. Well, one cast member, Juno Temple, was asked that very question and provided thoughts on the subject.

What Did The Actress Say About Starring In The Latest Venom Movie?

Juno Temple is no stranger to the superhero genre, as she previously played a smaller part in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises. However, as part of the Venom 3 cast, Temple will be stepping into a more prominent role. The actress discussed her work in the 2024 movie schedule entry while on the awards campaign trailer for FX’s Fargo. Her interviewer eventually posed the question of whether she feels that her superhero film really needs to succeed given the performances of past SSU entries. Temple ultimately gave a measured response to the query:

The comments that the Ted Lasso alum shared with THR seem to suggest that she’s approaching the matter with an open mind and heart. Honestly, that’s probably the best way for any actor to approach one of their upcoming projects. I’d assume that an actor appreciates when their movie performs well. But, sometimes, you really do just have to go with the flow, accept the possibilities and express gratitude over having had an opportunity at all. So kudos to the actress for having such a refreshing outlook. On the other side of that equation, though, are execs at Sony, who may have other thoughts at this time. 

How Have Sony’s Spider-Man Movies Performed Up To This Point?

While the critical reception to the SSU movies has mostly skewed negatively, the box office receipts have fluctuated. Its first installment, 2018’s Venom, hit box office milestones, eventually amassing a global haul of $856.1 million against a budget that reportedly ranged between $100 and $116 million. The 2021 sequel, subtitled Let There Be Carnage, finished its theatrical run with over $506 million worldwide against a $110 million budget. The next year, the Jared Leto-led Morbius, which had an attached $75 to $83 million budget, grossed only $167.5 million (even after social media sparked a second theatrical stint for it). And, earlier this year, Madame Web had a poor debut and ultimately earned a little over $100 million against an alleged $80 to $100 million budget. 

Much has been said about just how long Sony’s stable of Spider-Man-adjacent flicks will continue to be cranked out, given the receipts. There’s also been concern about another forthcoming chapter in the franchise – Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s Kraven the Hunter. The film has been shifted on the studio’s schedule for a little while now and, more recently, Kraven was delayed to December. When asked about the move, producer Matt Tolmach explained that “Christmas is the best release period there is” and that the time frame is the best fit for the blockbuster production.

So, based on how the SSU has been received thus far, one would think that Sony will be watching very closely to see how The Last Dance is received. But I wouldn’t expect Juno Temple – who plays a scientist studying symbiotes – to stress herself out over how it’s received. I’m also confident that she’ll crush it in her role.

On May 31, 2023, Ted Lasso concluded its three-season run on Apple TV+, one of the best streaming services. The series finale, titled “So Long, Farewell,” revealed the future of AFC Richmond and showed what awaits the starring characters in the next stage of their lives. For Juno Temple’s Keeley Jones, who spent Season 3 starting her own PR firm and dealing with a sexually explicit video of her being leaked online, she gave Hannah Waddingham’s Rebecca Welton a proposal to start an AFC Richmond women’s team. With a little over a year having passed since the season ended, Temple spent some time reflecting on Keeley’s story and what she loved it so much.

Temple, who recently starred in Fargo Season 5 and has Venom: The Last Dance coming up on the 2024 movies schedule, was asked by THR if she agreed with the sentiment from some headlines “suggesting your character Keely wasn’t well served by the final season and that they should have done more with her.” She answered:

While various Ted Lasso fans shared their issues with the series finale, Juno Temple doesn’t agree with them when it comes to Keeley’s story in Season 3. As she sees it, the final batch of episodes allowed her character to become more independent and strengthen her friendship with Rebecca, with the two of them forming a strong bond starting early on in Season 1. With this women’s team now on the horizon, Temple is satisfied with this new chapter of Keeley’s life that’s coming up and with the development her character went through during the last stretch of Ted Lasso.

Whether or not that new chapter ever gets explored remains to be seen. Although Ted Lasso is officially over, it was rumored earlier this year that Season 4 might stand a chance of happening, though there haven’t been any updates on that front since. The series finale could also easily be followed up on through various spinoffs, including one focused on Keeley and Rebecca. Rebecca Waddingham sounded game for it last August, and two months before that, Juno Temple said that getting the team back together would be a “no-brainer.”

Masterminded by SNL alum and comedy legend Jason Sudeikis, Ted Lasso proved itself as a one-of-a-kind comedy over the course of its three seasons. The characters all had their own senses of humor, and the beating heart of the show revolved around the titular character’s optimism and unique outlook on life. When you mix all of that together you end up with an endless list of wonderfully funny quotes from the show, however, today we’re only going to go through 32 of them. 

“If that’s a joke, I love it. If not, can’t wait to unpack that with you later.” -Ted Lasso

After Ted meets Rebecca and she says that “Ms. Welton” is her “father,” Ted was not quite sure how to take his new boss’s comment. So, with his Southern charm, he responded in the only way he knew how: funnily addressing both possible outcomes of Rebecca’s quippy line. 

“I never know how to react when a grown man beatboxes in front of me.” -Keeley Jones

I don’t think there’s much like meeting someone for the first time and having them beatbox at you. In the first episode of Ted Lasso, that’s exactly what happened to Keeley when she met the new coach. Of course, it got even funnier when you realized that he only started beatboxing because she had asked if he tweeted, and he responded by saying no, but he could do this.

“I always thought tea was going to taste like hot brown water. And do you know what? I was right. It’s horrible.” -Ted Lasso

Now, Ted might be known for his poignant life lessons, optimistic outlook, and kindness. However, one thing he’s not afraid to diss is tea. The man can’t get behind the beloved hot beverage, and he’s not afraid to make his grievances known, as he did in this fantastic quote. 

“I never know how to react when a grown man does the Carlton in front of me.” -Roy Kent

At one point, Ted was attempting to prove to Roy that Alfonso Ribeiro is the “greatest physical comedian of the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries,” because of how iconic the Carlton dance is. In response, Brett Goldstein’s character reacted the same way Keeley reacted to Ted's beatboxing, which was warranted and very funny. 

“It's just a group of people who care, Roy. Not unlike folks at a hip-hop concert whose hands are not in the air.” -Ted Lasso

When Roy learned about AFC Richmond’s love-life support group, The Diamond Dogs, he was disgusted, as you’d expect from the gumbly guy. However, Ted’s response made the whole interaction even better when he likened the crew of coaches – and Higgins – to the group of people at a hip-hop concert who aren’t waving their hands in the air like they just don’t care. 

“I forget how skittish elderly people could be 'cause of the war.” -Jamie Tartt

There’s a very nice moment in Season 3 where Jamie tries to hug Roy and fails. Despite Phil Dunster and Brett Goldstein sharing a deep love and friendship in real life, on screen, it takes a while for their characters to warm up to each other. And that’s greatly illustrated by Roy saying Jamie came at him “too fast,” and the footballer responded by making fun of his coach’s age. 

"I believe in Communism. Rom-communism, that is. If Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan can go through some heartfelt struggles and still end up happy, then so can we." -Ted Lasso

In the episode “Rainbow,” Ted tries to woo Roy back to AFC Richmond by taking inspiration from some of the best rom-coms. While Roy hates every second of it, it does work, proving that the coach’s belief in Rom-communism is real, and it works. 

“Coach, I’m me. Why would I want to be anything else?” -Jamie Tartt

Back in the day, before I liked Jamie Tartt, I was typically quite annoyed by him. However, when asked if he’d rather be a lion or a panda, he responded with this genius line which gave him a few points. However, I didn’t fully come around to the self-assured footballer until Season 3. 

“Coach, I got a feeling we’re not in Kansas anymore. Hey, I’ve never said that while not in Kansas before.” -Ted Lasso

We love a Wizard of Oz reference, and since Ted and Coach Beard are, in fact, from Kansas, this line was perfect for when they touched down in London and went to see the Tower Bridge.

“I would like to see a tulip…No, no, just one tulip. An entire field would be incredibly overwhelming.” -Dani Rojas

While Jamie and Roy were off riding bikes and Ted was on a spiritual journey with barbecue sauce, the rest of the team was trying to figure out what to do with their time in Amsterdam. Dani’s suggestion was to see one tulip. No, not a field of tulips, that would be “incredibly overwhelming.” He simply wanted to see a single tulip. 

"Well, yeah, you got Ronaldo and the fellow who bends it like himself." -Ted Lasso

During his first press conference, the journalists all found out Ted wasn’t exactly football savvy. While he knows American football, soccer was not his thing. So, when the conference broke into chaos, one reporter asked the coach if he could even name a footballer, and Jason Sudeikis’ character responded in a very funny, yet clueless, way. 

“Does my face look like it’s in the mood for shape-based jokes?”  -Roy Kent

You know, I don’t think Roy is ever in the “mood for shape-based jokes.” However, I’m happy he clarified. What makes this line even funnier is it was Goldstein’s character’s response to Ted telling him that he was stuck in “life’s most complicated shape,” a love triangle. 

“I need to reapply my lip liner. Men don’t know what that means and women understand it requires time and focus.” -Rebecca Welton

When Rebecca told Keeley about a code word for when you need to use the bathroom, she not only gave people great life advice, she also provided us with a very smart and hilarious line. 

“I told you, my lips are sensitive to impure metals and whistles give me mouth hives.” -Roy Kent

“WHISTLE!” is what our favorite guy Roy Kent yells every time he needs to get the team's attention, because he doesn’t want to use a real whistle. The reasoning, you might ask? Well, it’s because he’s “sensitive to impure metals,” obviously. 

“Remember, it’s just poop-eh. Let it flow.” -Jamie Tartt

Phil Dunster said his favorite word to say as Jamie was “poop-eh,” and how could it not when it’s part of a brilliant line like this? On top of this being a turning point for the character, it was also a funny line that highlighted Jamie’s Mancunian accent in a fun and silly way. 

“This isn’t black. This is dark heather charcoal.” -Roy Kent

Roy Kent is not one to wear color, however, never say he wears just black. The guy is a fan of nuanced dark color palettes, as illustrated by this quote. 

"One more person says something that me and Beard don't understand, I'm gonna have one of my son's classic temper tantrums.” -Ted Lasso

Out of context, this quote is funny because seeing a grown man throw a fit like an 8-year-old is quite amusing. However, in context, it gets even better. That’s because Ted gets all riled up because the team was talking about the cursed treatment room and he has no idea about the lore.

“Howdy, y’all cowboys. My name is Ted Lasso and I’m from Kansas. Pow! Pow! Pow!” -Roy Kent

Roy doesn’t strike me as a man who does impressions, and he proved that when he attempted, and failed, at impersonating Ted. The begrudging player was working very hard to not like his new coach, and at one point he was so fed up with him that he did this wild impersonation of him at Keeley. 

“Caesar you later.” -Higgins

When Ted slams back into a room to recognize a pun, you know you’ve made it. That’s exactly what happened to Higgins at this moment when he mentioned that he was getting Caesar salads with the coach, and when Ted started leaving he quipped the brilliant line above. 

"Well, fellas, if you're looking for a pep talk from me, you're in trouble. 'Cause I'm like Michael Flatley at 11:59 p.m. on St. Patrick's Day, I'm tapped out." -Ted Lasso

Long-winded puns and jokes are Ted’s thing, and this is a fabulous example of that. Not to mention, he went out with a bang because this was how he started his last speech as the coach of AFC Richmond during the Season 3 finale of Ted Lasso. However, while he claimed to be “tapped out,” he really wasn’t, because, at halftime of this match, he gave a lovely speech to his team. 

“God bless me, everyone.” -Jamie Tartt

You have to give Jamie his props for having so much self-confidence. While it’s a bit much at times, it’s also hilarious, especially when we’re graced with lines like this one from Season 2’s holiday special. 

“Football is life!” -Dani Rojas

Coming in hot, running onto the pitch, human golden retriever Dani Rojas bolted into his introduction singing, yelling his name, running in circles and enthusiastically saying the line that would become his catchphrase: “Football is life!” 

"I do. But more importantly, I think they need to believe in themselves. You know?" -Ted Lasso

While they actually deal with a curse and maybe ghosts later in Season 1, metaphorically speaking, Rebecca asked Ted early on if he believes in ghosts. Then, in the most on-brand way, the coach responded by saying he does, and more importantly, those spirits need “to believe in themselves.” 

“Oh, god. Did we really make Michael Jordan cry?” -Rebecca Welton

Listen, what happened to the late greyhound Earl is not a laughing matter. However, the damage control afterward was quite funny, and as Rebecca started coming to terms with the PR disaster that was ahead of them she recited this great line about the iconic Michael Jordan crying meme.

“No Fight Club!” -Coach Beard

After AFC Richmond had a rough game, the team got a little aggressive with each other. When Jamie and Roy started to fight, Ted broke it up, and when he asked Beard what the first rule of his fight club was, Brendan Hunt’s assistant coach yelled the slightly modified Fight Club quote above. 

"I always feel so bad for the cows, but you gotta do it; otherwise, they get lost. That was a branding joke. If we were in Kansas right now, I'd just be sitting here waiting for you to finish laughing." -Ted Lasso

When Rebecca told Ted she had to go to a branding meeting, the coach made a joke that would have gone over so well with a group of farmers. However, with the owner of the team…not so much. Honestly, the joke bombing and Ted’s explanation after made it even better.

“Old people are so wise. They're like tall Yodas.” -Jamie Tartt

After Jamie was voted off a reality show, he was a bit lost and he went to Ted to ask for a place back on that team. During that conversation, the beloved bartender, Mae, gave the player some advice, and he gave her this very odd yet sweet compliment. 

“Hi. Keeley Jones, The Independent Woman.” -Keeley Jones

Roy and Keeley are so sweet together, and one of their silliest yet genuine moments came when she forced him to do a press conference for only her, and she bounced around the room slating herself as Keeley Jones from some sort of Independent Woman publication and asking him questions about their first date. 

"You beating yourself up is like Woody Allen playing the clarinet. I don't wanna hear it. All right?" -Ted Lasso

Ted Lasso, king of getting people to think positively and highly of themselves, really came through for Roy with this honestly wild, yet impactful line. I write this because, yes, I never want to hear Woody Allen play the clarinet, and it does illustrate just how awful beating yourself up sounds and is. 

“You got the boot from putting boots in the boot.” -Coach Beard

Ted and Beard love to give each other little riddles, and after Ted said:

Coach Beard responded with the line above which is redundant in the funniest and most clever way. 

“That Rebecca is an intimidating, very tall woman. I mean, the minute she locked eyes with me, I started sweating.” - Keeley Jones

Back before Keeley and Rebecca were besties, Juno Temple’s character was both in awe of and intimidated by Hannah Waddingham’s. Who can blame her? She is indeed a “very tall woman,” who can be intimidating when she needs to, and it’s one of the reasons why we love her so much. 

"All right, fellas, you gotta remember, your body is like day-old rice. If it ain't warmed up properly, something real bad could happen." -Ted Lasso

This is maybe the best and most creative workout advice I’ve read. We all likely know what day-old rice tastes like if it’s cold, and the answer is bad and weird. Well if your body is not stretched and warmed up before a physical activity you will likely be bad and weird at whatever it is you’re doing. 

From Ted’s cheesy and sincere advice to Roy and Jamie’s snarky and hysterical comments, and so much more, the funniest quotes from Ted Lasso really run the gamut and clearly show why this comedy is so beloved. 

We’ve always known that the cast of Ted Lasso takes the statement “Richmond ‘til we die” seriously. However, at the SAG Awards, they took it to a whole new level. While they didn’t take home any awards at the actors’ union award show, they did dance the night away in matching tracksuits, proving that they won the after-party. 

Now, while this crew didn’t win any hardware at the SAG Awards for Season 3 of Ted Lasso – those all went to The Bear as it won Ensemble, Male Actor and Female Actor in a Comedy Series – that didn’t stop them from having a blast. 

Overall, the cast of one of Apple TV+’s best shows was up for Comedy Series Ensemble, Jason Sudeikis and Brett Goldstein were nominated for Male Actor in a Comedy Series and Hannah Waddingham was nominated for Female Actor in a Comedy Series. 

While this crew has tons of awards, with all three folks named here being Emmy winners, The Bear has been dominating the awards season. Considering the 75th Emmy winners list – which also featured The Bear taking home the majority of the comedy awards – it seemed obvious that they would sweep the SAG Awards too. 

So, after the entire cast of Ted Lasso got dressed up for the ceremony, they changed into their comfy matching Nike tracksuits to party the night away and celebrate their third (and possibly final) season. Let's just say it was epic. 

As you can see in the photo at the top of this story, when I say everyone, I mean virtually everyone from this cast was at the awards. Our favorite bar patrons and its owner Mae were there. Basically, every player from the team was in attendance. And of course, the series’ leads -- including Sudeikis, Waddingham, Goldstein, Brendan Hunt, Juno Temple and Jeremy Swift -- were rocking the blue tracksuits too. 

Notably, Phil Dunster, Toheeb Jimoh, Nick Mohammed and James Lance were missing. However, the Jamie actor was likely not there because he was working as a SAG Awards Ambassador that night, and the Nate performer expressed his disappointment about missing the evening on X. I bet they all wish they could have been repping Richmond at the SAG Awards with the entire cast. 

Along with the crew wearing matching tracksuits, they also all rocked white or red sneakers, and most of them wore white undershirts – except Brett Goldstein, who wore a black T-shirt, which is very Roy Kent of him. 

This cast had a blast partying it up after the SAG Awards, and it makes sense, because, for all we know, this might be the last time we see them all together. At the time of this writing, the future of AFC Richmond is still unknown. The ending of Season 3 was 100% the conclusion of this journey we’ve been on. However, some doors were left slightly open in case a Ted Lasso spinoff or Season 4 comes to fruition. 

While we likely won’t see the Ted Lasso crew together again on the 2024 TV schedule, it was so fun to see them go out with a bang while wearing matching tracksuits. Talk about a dream team!

The 2024 movie schedule has not been kind to Sony’s Spider-Man Universe thus far. The latest release, Madame Web, failed to match Morbius’ lackluster box office numbers. However, the franchise will continue to move along with Kraven the Hunter and Venom 3, which are set to land in theaters this year. Fans eagerly await Tom Hardy's return as Eddie Brock amid the slate of upcoming Spider-Man-related productions. And, now, Juno Temple -- one of the cast members in the threequel -- has provided a thrilling update on the upcoming superhero movie.

At the 2024 SAG Awards, Juno Temple shared with Variety that production on Venom 3 has almost reached its end. The Fargo veteran also shared thoughts on what she believes audiences can expect from the Marvel Comics-adapted production. She had this to say to the outlet:

Juno Temple is set to join the Venom 3 cast along with fellow series newcomers Chiwetel Ejiofor and Clark Backo. It was revealed that the Ted Lasso star had joined the ensemble in April of 2023, but her role is still being kept under wraps, much like details of the film's plot.

While much of the production remains shrouded in mystery, Tom Hardy recently gave subtle hints about where the upcoming film fits into the franchise's timeline. In June 2023, the actor and producer shared an intense sneak peek of the movie on his Instagram. The image he shared showed him dressed in a laid-back Hawaiian shirt casually unbuttoned over a Golden State Warriors tee. That was the same outfit he wore in the epic post-credits scene of Spider-Man: No Way Home. This suggests that the new movie may have some connection to Spidey's last MCU outing.

Eagle-eyed Marvel fans think they know who the villain will be in the third flick based on the recently revealed movie logo. Many agree that the title is reminiscent of the color and design of the character Toxin, another symbiote that was teased in Let There Be Carnage, but I am intrigued by another possibility. Seeing how close to the vest Sony is playing it regarding Juno Temple's role, I think she could be playing a severely underutilized and interesting character known as Big Mother. 

According to Marvel comics canon, Big Mother was created by ancient deities as a precursor to the symbiote race to which Venom belongs. After centuries of imprisonment, she returns to Earth and becomes obsessed with "mothering" her symbiote lineage. She's a powerful sorceress who can create symbiotic beings of her own. In the comics, she has encountered several symbiotes from Marvel's lore and is a character unlike anything we have seen in the series yet. This is all speculation at this point, but the villain's presence would lend credibility to Juno Temple's declaration that this film will be "wild."

Comic book movie fans who are eager to know what happens next after the ending of Let There Be Carnage or who the actress is set to play won't have to wait too long. Venom 3 is scheduled to be released in cinemas on November 8, 2024.

We might be “Richmond ‘til we die,” but will we ever get to return to the home of the beloved football club? After the end of Ted Lasso’s third season, it’s unclear if the finale was just the end of a chapter or the end of a book. With that said, if Ted Lasso were to return, how would it? Would it be through a spinoff? A Season 4? Something entirely different? While we don’t know, I have a few ideas for how AFC Richmond’s stories could continue, so let’s talk about it. 

The Tales Of Roy Kent And AFC Richmond 

Roy Kent’s journey from player to coach to manager was quite the hero’s arc, and it was clear at the end of Ted Lasso Season 3 that he had grown into the great leader Ted always knew he could be. While it seemed like Roy could take over AFC Richmond pretty early on, it became true in the final moments of the latest installment. With Beard and Nate as his assistant coaches, it feels like the story could continue through a spinoff about the grumpy but lovely manager as he leads the team to victory.

Maybe they could change the name to Roy Kent. They could also rebrand the show as simply AFC Richmond, because the only character missing from this hypothetical spinoff would be Ted, who is in Kansas. Considering the club’s growth during Ted’s time as its leader, it feels like Brett Goldstein’s character is poised to continue that success, and hopefully, we all get to see it through a spinoff show. 

The Founding Of AFC Richmond's Women’s Team  

A KJPR Joint was presented during the final moments of Ted Lasso’s Season 3 finale, as we found out that Keeley and Rebecca were thinking about starting an AFC Richmond women’s team. Now, this idea feels like a totally new show, and a fantastic way to grow the Ted Lasso cinematic universe, if they choose to. 

It would be so fun to see these two powerhouses, and the Richmond team, create a women’s club. Not only would it give Keeley and Rebecca the much-deserved spotlight, but it would also open the door for a new team of players. And if they can cast a women’s team like they cast the men’s team, I just know we’d be in for something special. 

Hannah Waddingham has said she’d “entertain the idea” of returning as Rebecca, and Juno Temple has spoken in favor of getting the Ted Lasso crew back together. So, if it’s done well, I totally think they’d be down for something like an AFC Richmond Women’s Team spinoff. 

They Could Just Make Ted Lasso Season 4 

Honestly, with the way Jason Sudeikis’ character’s story was wrapped up, it feels like Ted won’t be going back to AFC Richmond anytime soon. However, never say never. Even though it’s slim, I don’t want to rule out the chance that we could just get a straight-up Season 4 of Ted Lasso. 

Maybe the entire family decides to move back to England, or maybe it flashes back and forth between Ted’s life in the United States and the team's shenanigans in the UK. I think both would be fun options, and if it were up to me, this coach from Kansas would always be involved with the English football club. 

However, I don’t make the decisions, so we’ll have to wait and see if there are any more stories about the world of Ted Lasso. At the moment, we don’t know if we’ll get a spin-off, Season 4, or if Season 3 was the end of it all. While I want the characters to return to the screen so badly, I also respect the choice to tell a full story and end on their own terms (if this is the end). But, if they decide to bring back the iconic cast of characters from AFC Richmond, I have a few ideas for them!

Spoilers for Season 3 of Ted Lasso are ahead!

The Season 3 finale of Ted Lasso might have marked the end of AFC Richmond's journey, especially since it definitively wrapped up Ted's story. However, other character's stories were left a bit more open-ended, including Juno Temple’s Keeley Jones and Hannah Waddingham’s Rebecca Welton. In the final montage, we see the PR expert proposing an AFC Richmond women's team to the owner, and now the Emmy-winning actress behind Rebecca has weighed in on whether she'd be down for a spinoff that explores this proposal. 

Rebecca and Keeley became besties throughout Ted Lasso's run, and seeing the two of them work together at a women’s league would be such a fantastic way to continue their stories. Temple and Waddingham have become as close off-screen as their characters have on-screen, and when it comes to a spinoff, Waddingham wouldn’t be totally opposed to it. She told the LA Times:

It would be pretty entertaining to get a full series with just Rebecca and Keeley. Considering the finale did perfectly set up a spinoff, whether it was intentional or not, it means this isn't the end of their story, even if it's not shown on screen. Hannah Waddingham does sound into the idea, and so does Juno Temple, who said getting the entire team back together would be a "no-brainer." 

While the spinoff sounds intriguing, it should be pointed out that Ted Lasso hasn’t officially ended. There have been rumors about the series coming to a close, and Season 3 did make it look like Ted and co.’s stories have been completed, for now. There’s always the possibility that if a spinoff doesn’t happen, Ted Lasso could be focusing on a new adventure in Season 4 or it could be completely over. However, we really don't know. Rebecca and Ted had an emotional goodbye, but that doesn’t necessarily mean they'll never see each other again.

After Ted Lasso’s third season ended, Hannah Waddingham revealed that she didn’t know what the future of the series looked like. She also said she may not want to return for a spinoff depending on the story. It’s clear that Waddingham loves playing Rebecca, and she would love nothing more than to return to the character, be it on a spinoff or another season of Ted Lasso. It’s likely fans feel the exact same way, I know I do.

It's unknown if and when any news on the future of Ted Lasso will be announced, including a potential Rebecca and Keeley spinoff. Fans can watch all three seasons of Ted Lasso with an Apple TV+ subscription, which should keep them occupied for a while. Hopefully, news about what's next for AFC Richmond will be revealed soon, but in the meantime, fans will just have to hope and pray that this isn’t the end of Rebecca Welton.

There’s no denying it, when it comes to Roy, Keeley and Jamie the chemistry is real. Whether it’s the romance between Brett Goldstein and Juno Temple’s characters or the bromance between AFC Richmond’s player-turned-coach and Phil Dunster’s star footballer, in Season 3 of Ted Lasso there’s a lot of love between the three characters. So, obviously, some folks have strong feelings about the three characters taking it a step further and becoming a throuple, and of course Goldstein has thoughts on the matter too. 

These three characters on Ted Lasso have a complex history. In the beginning, Keeley was dating Jamie, and Jamie and Roy hated each other. Then Keeley and Roy were together, and Roy and Jamie still hated each other. In Season 3 things changed a bit because Keeley wasn’t with either of the boys, and Jamie and Roy's friendship really began to blossom. Don’t get it twisted though, Juno Temple’s character still had a lot of love for the football players, and they also adore her. So, with all that love in mind, some fans want all three characters to be romantically involved, and while speaking with EW, Brett Goldstein shared his thoughts on the matter:

I love that Brett Goldstein is on board for a Roy, Keeley, Jamie throuple. He also makes a valid point about Ted Lasso’s Season 3 finale, noting that it was open ended, and when it comes to the characters’ futures fans can imagine whatever they’d like. Honestly, I think I’m with the Emmy winner on this one, and I’m totally down for his “dream” to get depicted on screen if the show returns for a Season 4.

Part of the reason I'm so here for this idea is that it’s no secret Phil Dunster and Brett Goldstein are besties in real life, and they absolutely love working together. The romantic tension is real between these two boys, and honestly it’d be amazing (and hilarious) to see Roy and Jamie together romantically. Take it from the new head coach of AFC Richmond, these two actors have “fucking chemistry,” and we can all see it: 

It is “undeniable,” and personally I think they should be together. Talk about an epic enemies to lovers story. Plus, with their love for Keeley and her adoration for both of them, why not make it a throuple?

Sadly, it seems like there’s a slim chance of anything happening past Season 3, however, anything is possible. So, while we wait to see if the story of Ted Lasso will continue, you can stream all three installments on Apple TV+ as you dream with Brett Goldstein about a potential throuple between Roy Kent, Keeley Jones and Jamie Tartt.

The future of Ted Lasso still hangs in the balance. The Season 3 finale revealed the future of AFC Richmond in a way that left the door open for a fourth installment or even some spinoffs while also definitively closing a chapter. With the door being left partially open the cast of Ted Lasso has been asked over and over if they’d be down to play their characters again. Now, Keeley Jones herself, Juno Temple, is joining the conversation, and I totally agree with her thoughts on the future of the Apple TV+ series. 

There’s 100% potential for more Ted Lasso in a few different capacities. Whether it’s a spinoff about the AFC Richmond women’s team that Keeley proposed to Rebecca or a Season 4 about Roy Kent taking over the club, there are options to continue these characters’ stories even though Ted went back to Kansas. Juno Temple was asked about the possibility of playing the KJPR founder again, and she told TMZ:

She continued saying she’d be down for “joining the gang again,” anytime. However, she also had a stipulation. As the interviewer continued to ask her about potential spinoffs she made one thing clear:

I completely agree, it’d be really hard to watch a Ted Lasso spinoff without the majority of the team in it. We’ve come to know and love this ensemble for their infectious chemistry and their shared adoration of their show. So, if the Apple TV+ series were to continue, I'd assume it would be odd to both make and watch if a lot of the core cast wasn’t there. To really hammer this point home, Juno Temple continued to talk about the potential for a new series or season, and how she’d need the ensemble there with her, saying:

Temple’s answer goes hand-in-hand with a lot of the cast’s responses to this question about Ted Lasso’s future. Hannah Waddingham said she’d “entertain” the idea of playing Rebecca again, but hadn’t really thought about a spinoff. Meanwhile, Jason Sudeikis said there’s potential for more, saying he could see a book, podcast or audio commentaries coming next that go deeper into the themes of the series. Meanwhile, in the most Brett Goldstein way possible, the actor/writer dropped multiple expletives talking about the future of Ted Lasso, noting that if it continues it wouldn’t “suddenly be shit.”

No matter what, we got three fantastic seasons of Ted Lasso, and whether it continues or not we’ll always have those episodes to look back on. As for the future of one of Apple TV+’s best shows, I agree with Juno Temple. If it’s to continue, I hope the “whole team” is able to be a part of it.

Major spoilers for Ted Lasso Season 3, Episode 8 – “We’ll Never Have Paris” – ahead. Read with caution. If you aren’t caught up with the comedy, you can stream all the episodes, plus new ones every Wednesday, with an Apple TV+ subscription. 

Over the course of the last few episodes of Ted Lasso, we’ve all been basking in the joy of the show, as our favorite characters rode bikes around Amsterdam, had big epiphanies and actually started playing football well. However, in Episode 8 the series brutally brought us back to the ground, and it reminded us that every person on the 2023 TV schedule hit comedy is a flawed human, including Roy Kent. I bring up this sad fact because as Keeley dealt with the ramifications of an intimate video of hers being leaked, Roy had a less-than-ideal and selfish reaction to the news, and I’m flustered by it. 

The episode as a whole gets into a debate about who is to blame for videos or photos like this getting leaked, and if public figures should take extra precautions to protect and delete intimate content. This back-and-forth mostly gets discussed among the team, however, while these guys (with the exception of the newly likable Jamie) aren’t personally linked to the situation like Roy is. So, he approaches Keeley, and how he addressed what happened was not great. At that moment, Brett Goldstein's character approached Juno Temple's character and said:

He started out strong there. He was handling it well, and he was clearly concerned for his ex. She then thanked him for asking, and asked how he was doing. This is when things get rough because, the AFC Richmond coach responded with: 

While you can tell he regrets what he said the second after the words came out of his mouth, it was still flustering. It almost felt out of character for the man who has proven time and time again how deeply caring he is, especially when it comes to the women in his life. One fan, @teelkay72 made their opinion on the matter clear, as they tweeted:

It really was disappointing to see Roy have such a tragic moment, especially when you compare it to Jamie’s reaction when he apologizes to Keeley at the end of the episode. The two juxtapose each other in a way that makes Jamie Tartt's character growth clear as day, while simultaneously pointing out that Roy is nowhere near perfect. 

We’d all really come to love Roy, especially when it comes to his relationships with Jamie Tartt, Ted Lasso and of course Keeley. However, the scene grounded him, and reminded us, even if we didn’t want to be, that Roy Kent is struggling, and sometimes slips us. @Lassofiasco pointed this out on Twitter, by writing:

They're right, this scene, while sad, was necessary, as it pointed out Roy's insecurities, and how he needs to help himself as much as he's helping the team. Hopefully, this sequence will help him grow during the final part of Season 3, and evolve into the man he knows he can be. 

It’s always a bummer when your favorite character acts out of turn on a show, however, it also reminds us all that these fictional people have low moments too. I know that we’ve all come to love and adore Roy Kent, and just because he had a little selfish slip-up doesn't mean he's evil, or we should stop loving him. It's simply a sign that he’s flawed like the rest of us, and is still in the process of becoming the best person he can be.  

The future of Venom on the big screen isn’t rolling down the street like a turd in the wind, because some exciting things are happening behind the scenes for the third installment. The latest news on the street about Tom Hardy’s third outing as Eddie Brock and his slimy symbiote partner is a new cast member, notably from Ted Lasso, making her debut in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe. 

It's Juno Temple who is apparently in negotiations to star in Venom 3 alongside Tom Hardy, per Deadline. The report is the first we’ve heard of casting from the Marvel/Sony movie as the movie continues to go through pre-production. 

Venom 3 is being made from a script written by Kelly Marcel and Tom Hardy, who’ve worked closely together on the other two Venom movies. Marcel was also tapped as the Venom 3 director in October, which will be her first time directing a feature film. Among Marcel’s other writing credits are Saving Mr. Banks and Cruella. 

Temple is best known for starring in one of Apple TV+’s best TV shows, Ted Lasso, where she plays Keeley Jones, a model-turned-PR consultant for the fictional soccer club AFC Richmond. She has been nominated for two Emmys for the supporting role. 

The British actress has been a working actress for over 20 years, finding an early role in 2007’s Atonement alongside Keira Knightley and James McAvoy. Other notable Juno Temple movies and TV shows include her stint in the Fargo series, starring in the Paramount+ The Godfather origin series The Offer and being part of both Maleficent movies.

With Juno Temple being the first new actor to join Venom 3, we’d imagine she found herself a sizable role in the upcoming movie. Some comic book fans are speculating she may take on the role of supervillain Scream, who is a symbiote of another name, like Venom. For the time being, it’s much too early to know for sure what the actress will play in the superhero sequel because there’s just not enough information about the plans for Venom 3 to determine this. 

2018’s Venom was Sony's first Spider-Man spinoff without the friendly neighborhood superhero himself, and the studio is currently focusing on telling more stories from the comics without Peter Parker. Venom was a massive hit, scoring a place in the top ten grossing movies worldwide with $856 million under its belt. 2021’s Venom: Let There Be Carnage also made bank at a time when Hollywood was recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic, coming in the top 10 as well with $506 million worldwide. 

Regarding the future Sony’s Spider-Man Universe movies announced for the future, Venom 3 is the only title in production without a release date for now. Ahead of the return of Eddie Brock, Aaron Taylor-Johnson will star in Kraven the Hunter, coming this fall; Bad Bunny’s El Muerto movie is scheduled for January 2024; and a Madame Web film led by Dakota Johnson, Sydney Sweeney and Emma Roberts is coming in February 2024.

As far as ratings go, at least those handed out by the Motion Picture Association, there is nothing more extreme these days than NC-17. That means no one under the age of 18 can be admitted to a movie with this rating for a multitude of reasons.

Some directors, producers, and studios will re-cut their films to get an R-rating, but there are plenty of NC-17 movies that have been left unedited and sent out into the wild as is, which has resulted in limited releases of some of the most notorious movies of all time. Henry & June (1990) - Fred Ward, Uma Thurman

What better way to start than with the very first movie to earn the NC-17 rating – according to SlashFilm – Henry & June. Director Philip Kaufman’s adaptation of Anaïs Nin’s memoir focuses on a love triangle between novelist Henry Miller (Fred Ward), his wife, June (Uma Thurman), and the French-American author (portrayed by Thurman’s future fellow Pulp Fiction cast member, Maria de Medeiros) in 1930s Paris. Despite its controversially explicit sexual content, the drama was a mild critical and commercial success and received an Academy Award nomination for Best Cinematography.

Killer Joe (2012) - Matthew McConaughey, Emile Hirsch, Juno Temple

Directed by the late William Friedkin and written by 2019’s Little Women cast member Tracy Letts (also based on his stage play), Killer Joe stars Emile Hirsch as an indebted young man who hatches a plan to have his mother (played by Gina Gershon) killed to collect insurance money. Matthew McConaughey gives one of his most underrated performances as the titular hitman he hires, whose fee is so high that he agrees to let his teenage sister (Juno Temple) be treated as collateral.

According to Deadline, the shamelessly twisted crime thriller was released with an NC-17 rating after Friedkin and distributor LD Entertainment opted not to change its ending. While an R-rated version of the film was later made available for home viewing, those interested in seeing it in its original form could also seek out the unrated director’s cut of Killer Joe instead.

Mysterious Skin (2004) - Joseph Gordon-Levitt

One of Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s best movies from earlier in his career is Mysterious Skin, in which he plays a gay teen making a living as a sex worker who recalls a disturbing encounter from his childhood through narration. Meanwhile, another teen, played by Brady Corbet, struggles to figure out the truth behind a blackout he suffered when he was younger, leading the two men to cross paths unexpectedly.

Writer and director Gregg Araki is notorious for including pervasive sexual content in his films, but the NC-17 rating for Mysterious Skin – also starring Elisabeth Shue and Buffy the Vampire Slayer cast member Michelle Trachtenberg – was largely determined by its graphic depiction of pedophilia. According to The Sydney Morning Herald, the challenging subject matter sparked controversy when the Australian Family Association feared child predators could use the film as a grooming tool or for their own gratification.

Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down! (1989) - Antonio Banderas

In one of his many racy collaborations with writer and director Pedro Almodóvar, Antonio Banderas stars in Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down! as Ricky, who is released from a mental hospital with the intent of finding love. So, he tracks down a former adult film star, played by Victoria Abril, whom he once shared an intimate encounter with and takes her prisoner in hopes he can convince her to be his wife.

According to Gwyne Edwards’ 2001 book Almodóvar: Labyrinths of Passion, the controversial subject matter of Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down! was instrumental in the creation of the NC-17 rating itself. Thus, the MPA branded it as such in 1990 for a “scene of strong adult sensuality with nudity,” according to FilmRatings.com.

Blonde (2022) - Ana de Armas

Based on the book by Joyce Carol Oates, Blonde is director Andrew Dominik’s in-depth and fictionalized look at the tragically short life of Norma Jeane Baker, better known as Marilyn Monroe. Ana de Armas disappears into the role of one of Hollywood’s most iconic figures, portraying a side of the actress and model that was long kept hidden from the public.

Dominik once said that he anticipated his nearly three-hour biopic would be rated NC-17 before the MPA made it official in June 2022, citing “some sexual content” as the reasoning. The film’s more hardcore scenes would inspire some strong reactions from both critics and audiences since it was made available to stream in 2022.

Crash (1996) - James Spader, Holly Hunter

Not to be confused with director Paul Haggis’ Best Picture Oscar winner from 2005, Crash is one of the more bizarre and inventive movies directed by David Cronenberg (which is really saying something). Based on the novel by J.G. Ballard, it stars James Spader as a TV producer who becomes seduced into an unusual and dangerous obsession with car wrecks and the intense, sexually stimulating effect they seem to have on him and others, including his mistress (played by Holly Hunter).

Just from learning the plot, it seems pretty clear why a movie like Crash would have been given the NC-17 rating and why it inspired controversy so pervasive that it was chronicled in a 2001 book called The Crash Controversy: Censorship Campaigns and Film Reception. Nonetheless, it was still relatively well-received by critics, according to Rotten Tomatoes, and earned Cronenberg a Special Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival, despite vehement opposition from the jury’s then-president, Francis Ford Coppola.

Descent (2007) - Rosario Dawson

Not to be confused with the Scottish 2005 horror movie THE Descent, this film sees Rosario Dawson giving her most provocative and extreme performance since she broke out in another controversial classic, Kids. This time, she plays a woman who undergoes a dramatic and violent change of character after she is assaulted by a man she meets at a fraternity party.

This brutal and upsetting revenge drama was actually released with two alternative cuts: one rated NC-17 and an R-rated edit that omits seven minutes of footage. Still, both versions contain brutal rape, language, some sexual content and drug use.

Showgirls (1995) - Elizabeth Berkley, Kyle MacLachlan

Perhaps the most infamous movie on this list, Paul Verhoeven’s 1995 erotic cult classic, Showgirls, stars a post-Save by the Bell Elizabeth Berkley as a young drifter named Nomi Malone. As she hitchhikes to Las Vegas with dreams of becoming a famous dancer on the Strip, she has some ups and downs on her journey, but finally makes her dreams come true, at a price…

According to the MPA, Showgirls was given its NC-17 rating due to the amount of nudity and erotic sexuality throughout the movie, as well as graphic language and sexual violence. If you’ve seen the movie (and not the VH1 version with digitized bras), you’re well aware of the film’s graphic nature.

Shame (2011) - Michael Fassbender, Carey Mulligan

Released in 2011, Steve McQueen’s psychological drama, Shame, stars Michael Fassbender as Brandon Sullivan – a successful and dashing executive who is secretly a traumatized sex addict who will do anything and everything to get his kicks in New York City. Just when he thinks life can’t get any worse, his equally damaged sister (Carey Mulligan) storms into his life, causing more complications.

Upon release, Shame was given an NC-17 rating by the MPA for explicit sexual content as well as some truly troubling scenes. I’ve walked out of several movies before, but this was the first I exited simply because what was happening on the screen was way too real and unnerving to finish.

Blue Is The Warmest Color (2013) - Léa Seydoux 

Abdellatif Kechiche’s 2013 French drama, Blue is the Warmest Color, stars Adèle Exarchopoulos as a high school student who experiences a sexual awakening after meeting an art school student and aspiring painter named Emma, played by James Bond movies actor, Léa Seydoux. Over the years, the two form a contentious and highly-emotional relationship that opens their eyes to a whole new world around them.

Though tamer than some of the other titles on this list, Blue is the Warmest Color was given an NC-17 rating because of the explicit sexual content the MPA felt was unsuitable for younger audiences. However, at least one theater allowed teens to watch the movie upon release.

Bad Lieutenant (1992) - Harvey Keitel

Abel Ferrara’s 1992 crime thriller Bad Lieutenant follows Harvey Keitel as a broken NYPD detective whose stress over his job, life, and gambling habits get the best of him. From one interaction to the next, the unnamed lieutenant falls deeper down the rabbit hole of depravity, committing some irredeemable crimes of his own along the way.

If there has ever been a movie deserving of an NC-17 rating it would have to be Bad Lieutenant. With an abundance of sexual violence, intense sexual situations, endless drug use, and extreme language throughout, it’s no wonder the MPA came down hard on the movie, which later inspired a sequel only in name, Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans, starring Nicolas Cage and directed by Werner Herzog.

Orgazmo (1997) - Trey Parker, Matt Stone

Co-writer and director Trey Parker plays a normal Mormon missionary trying to find enough money to support and marry his longtime girlfriend. But when he stumbles upon a porn set, the once strait-laced and deeply devoted young man becomes the biggest thing going in the adult entertainment industry in Orgazmo.

It should come as no surprise that a movie written by the creators of South Park, and one centered on the porn industry, would receive an NC-17 rating from the MPA in 1998. It should come as even less of a surprise that the rating was handed down due to the sexual content and dialogue featured throughout.

Bent (1997) - Clive Owen, Ian McKellen

After being discovered and arrested by the Gestapo in Nazi Germany, Max – a proud gay man played by Clive Owen – is sent on a perilous journey to the Dachau concentration camp where he is subjected to indescribable horrors while still being able to find love.

Possibly one of the most harrowing movies about the Holocaust, Sean Mathias’ 1997 drama Bent is absolutely heartbreaking and disturbing with its graphic displays of violence. Upon its release, the movie received an NC-17 rating from the MPA due to its graphic sexual nature.

Matador (1986) - Antonio Banderas

In one of his most disturbing roles, Antonio Banderas plays Angel, a young student who confesses to an attempted rape and a series of murders he may or may not have committed, in Pedro Almodóvar’s 1986 dark comedy, Matador.

Just like some of the other movies featuring the director and actor, Matador pushed the limits with its dark, twisted, and oddly humorous story. Still, the MPA would later give the film an NC-17 rating in 2005 (nearly 20 years after initial release) due to “aberrant sexuality” and violence.

The Dreamers (2003) - Eva Green, Michael Pitt

In the midst of the 1968 Student Riots in Paris, an American student named Matthew (played by Michael Pitt) finds himself getting caught up in the lives of formerly conjoined twins – Louis Garrel as Théo and Eva Green as Isabelle – whose relationship is far from normal. When asked to spend a month with the siblings, Matthew falls deeper into their wild and free-flowing lifestyle.

Bernardo Bertolucci’s 2003 erotic drama, The Dreamers, pushes several boundaries and deviates from societal norms to tell a story about young love in the midst of a chaotic time. With the extreme sexual content and nudity, it’s no surprise the MPA gave the movie an NC-17 rating upon release.

A Dirty Shame (2004) - Selma Blair, Johnny Knoxville

A John Waters movie receiving an NC-17 rating? You don’t say! The filthy filmmaker’s 2004 comedy, A Dirty Shame, follows Tracey Ullman as Sylvia Stickles– a puritanical resident of the Hatford Road area of Baltimore who experiences a sexual awakening after being hit by a car. 

Selma Blair, Johnny Knoxville, and Chris Isaak also star in A Dirty Shame, which (no shocker here) was given the NC-17 rating by the MPA due to its pervasive sexual content. And if you’ve seen the movie, you are all too aware of just how pervasive and graphic it is.

Pink Flamingos (1972) - Divine

When Connie (Mink Stole) and Raymond Marble (David Lochary) attempt to steal Babs Johnson’s (Divine) title of “the filthiest person alive,” the down and dirty criminal and her family make it their mission in life to prevent the newcomers from accomplishing their mission by any means necessary.

With scenes featuring incest, people eating dog poop, flashers, and an infamously notorious scene involving a chicken, it shouldn’t shock anyone that John Waters’ classic exploitation comedy film, Pink Flamingos, was given an NC-17 rating by the MPA upon re-release in 1997, 25 years after it first shocked audiences around the world. Maybe that’s why Roger Ebert hated the movie.

The Evil Dead (1981) - Bruce Campbell

Bruce Campbell stars in the film that kickstarted the Evil Dead franchise as Ash Williams who – along with his girlfriend and a small group of friends – set off for a night away in an isolated cabin. However, the night quickly takes a turn for the worst after they discover the Necronomicon – a powerful book that awakens possessive, malevolent spirits.

Sam Raimi’s classic horror film, The Evil Dead, was initially released with an X rating back in 1981 on account of its substantial graphic violence and gore. It was later given an NC-17 by the MPA when the movie was re-released back in 1994.

BONUS: Elles (2011) - Juliette Binoche

The title of Elles refers to the French magazine, Elle, for which Juliette Binoche’s character is researching an article about an underground sex worker ring orchestrated by female college students in Paris. However, the closer she gets to the facts behind the story, the more she begins to question her own personal interests. Graphic sexual content that goes as far as urinary fetishes initially earned this drama from Polish filmmaker Malgoska Szumowska an NC-17 rating.

BONUS: Happiness (1998) - Philip Seymour Hoffman 

The late Philip Seymour Hoffman plays one of several interconnected people all searching desperately for the most coveted emotion there is: happiness. Of course, their chosen ways of acquiring it are exactly the kind of reasons this Golden Globe nominee was initially given an NC-17 rating. 

Also starring the likes of Trick ‘r Treat’s Dylan Baker, Twin Peaks cast member Lara Flynn Boyle, and SNL’s Jon Lovitz, Happiness is one of the darkest comedies of its time. However, that does not mean so much when you learn it comes from writer and director Todd Solondz.

Elles and Happiness are some of a few notable examples of films that surrendered their NC-17 ratings upon release and are now deemed “unrated,” such as the aforementioned Kids. However, they are just as challenging and provocative as any of the films listed above, which is why we’ll still count them as NC-17 in our book.

Fifty years after its release, The Godfather is still considered one of the best movies of all time, a once-in-a-generation film that helped launch the careers of some of the greatest actors of the second half of the 20th Century, and ushered in a new era of gangster films. But, Francis Ford Coppola’s masterful adaptation of Mario Puzo’s classic novel almost never was, if it were not for the handful of powerful players behind the scenes, who we see in The Offer.

The long-awaited Paramount+ original series that has been the topic of discussion for what seems like years now has finally arrived on the popular streaming service, and you may be wondering where you’ve seen the members of The Offer cast before. Below is a breakdown of those actors, who they’re playing, and everything else you need to know…

Miles Teller (Albert S. Ruddy)

At the center of The Offer is Miles Teller, who takes on the role of Academy Award-winning producer Albert S. Ruddy, the man who spearheaded Paramount Pictures’ development of The Godfather as well as several other high-profile projects over the years.

Throughout his career, Teller has been involved with Academy Award-winning pictures himself, including the 2014 drama Whiplash. Juno Temple (Bettye McCartt)

Taking on the role of talent scout Bettye McCartt in The Offer cast is Juno Temple, whom Apple TV+ subscribers will immediately recognize for her work on the Emmy Award-winning comedy series, Ted Lasso.

But, Temple’s portrayal of Keeley Jones on one of the most wholesome comedies around isn’t where the actress’ list of great shows and movies starts or stops. Throughout her career, Temple has made appearances on shows like Drunk History, Dirty John, and Vinyl, as well as a list of movies that includes Black Mass, The Dark Knight Rises, Killer Joe, Wonder Wheel, and a couple dozen others.

Giovanni Ribisi (Joe Colombo)

Giovanni Ribisi shows up on The Offer as Joe Colombo, the New York crime boss and leader of the Colombo crime family, who helped gain the blessing from the city’s Five Families so that production of The Godfather could go down in the Big Apple.

Ribisi, who is one of many actors to play multiple role on one show with his work on Friends, has appeared on countless TV shows over the years, including The Wonder Years, My Name Is Earl, Dads, and Sneaky Pete, to name just a few. His film work includes Saving Private Ryan, Boiler Room, Lost in Translation, and Selma. Ribisi also portrayed Parker Selfridge in Avatar, and will reprise the role in the upcoming sequels to James Cameron’s box office smash, per Deadline.

Dan Fogler (Francis Ford Coppola)

Taking on the role of Academy Award winner Francis Ford Coppola on The Offer is Dan Fogler, who looks remarkably similar to the acclaimed filmmaker.

Fans of the Wizarding World will immediately recognize Fogler thanks to his portrayal of Jacob Kowalski in the Fantastic Beasts franchise, but he has a lot more to his name than that. Over the years, Fogler has shown up in movies like Balls of Fury, Fanboys, Don Peyote, Europa Report, and others. He has also had a major role on The Walking Dead since joining the popular horror series as Luke in 2018.

Burn Gorman (Charles Bluhdorn)

Burn Gorman shows up on The Offer as Charles Bluhdorn, the industrialist and founder of Gulf and Western Industries, Paramount Pictures’ parent company at the time The Godfather was in development and production.

Throughout his career, Gorman has popped up on a number of TV shows, including Torchwood, Game of Thrones, And Then There Were None, The Expanse, and most recently, Halo. In that same stretch of time, Gorman has landed roles in movies like The Dark Knight Rises, Pacific Rim, Crimson Peak, and Enola Holmes, to name only a few.

Colin Hanks (Barry Lapidus)

Colin Hanks shows up on The Offer as Barry Lapidus, an executive at Gulf and Western who plays a major role in the early stages of development of The Godfather.

Throughout his career, which goes back to starring his father’s 1996 comedy-drama That Thing You Do!, Hanks has appeared in movies like Orange County, King Kong, W., Vacation, Elvis & Nixon, and the two most recent additions to the Jumanji franchise. His TV work includes major roles on shows like Roswell, Fargo, Life in Pieces, and Impeachment: American Crime Story, as well as smaller appearances on shows like Band of Brothers, Mad Men, and Dexter. He’s next set to appear in the upcoming Peacock drama miniseries, A Friend of the Family.

Patrick Gallo (Mario Puzo)

And then there is Patrick Gallo, who shows up in The Offer cast as Mario Puzo, the author behind The Godfather novel and who co-wrote the Academy Award-winning screenplay alongside director Francis Ford Coppola.

Although not as recognizable as some of the other faces featured on The Offer, Gallo has built up quite a resumé for himself over the years with roles in movies like The Irishman and shows like Boardwalk Empire, The Deuce, and When They See Us.

In Atonement, Temple plays Lola Quincey. She’s a minor character, but plays a major role in the plot and the big conflict of the story. It’s one of Temple’s first major film roles, and she does a great job of standing out in a sea of talented actors and actresses. Atonement is one of those movies that's a must-watch for the acting, writing, directing, and everything that makes a film good.

Away (2016)

Away is a 2016 drama starring Timothy Spall and Juno Temple. It’s one of those unlikely friendship movies about an older gentleman and a young woman who are both kind of outcasts in society, but find support and comfort with each other. They become like a daughter and father duo.

Away works because Temple and Spall are enjoyable to watch together, especially as the movie goes on and Spall’s Joseph begins to soften to Temple’s Ria.

Magic Magic (2013)

Magic Magic is an international psychological thriller that takes place in Chile. It stars Juno Temple, Emily Browning, Michael Cera, Catalina Sandino Moreno, and Agustin Silva. The film explores the life of a young woman on the brink of a possible mental breakdown.

Juno Temple leads the cast as Alicia. The role won her a Sitges Award for Best Actress, and was awarded at the film festival of the same name, which is an international film festival that focuses on fantasy and horror films. Temple hasn’t done many horror-esque films, so this is a good one to add to your list to see a little something different from the star.

Killer Joe (2011)

Killer Joe is a black comedy about a trailer park family who orders a hitman to kill the former matriarch of the clan. They believe that if she dies, they’ll get her money and that will solve their problems. Matthew McConaughey plays Joe Cooper, the man hired to assassinate the mother of the family. Killer Joe’s cast also includes Emile Hirsch, Juno Temple, Gina Gershon, and Thomas Haden Church. 

Killer Joe is extremely graphically violent and sexual. It’s definitely a film that holds nothing back when it comes to sex and violence. Killer Joe balances its graphic nature with strong performances by the entire cast, especially Temple and McConaughey. This may be one of Matthew McConaughey’s lesser-known roles, but definitely worth checking out to watch everyone involved.

Vinyl (2016)

Vinyl is an HBO original series that aired for one season in 2016. It was originally renewed for season two, but then HBO reversed the decision. Mick Jagger, Martin Scorsese, Rich Cohen, and Terence Winter created Vinyl. The series captures the music scene in the 1970s. It’s heavy on the sex, drugs, and rock n’ roll parts. It follows the employees of a record company and the artists that they represent. 

Vinyl’s cast includes Bobby Cannavale, Ray Romano, Jack Quaid, Paul Ben-Victor, P.J Byrne, Olivia Wilde, and Juno Temple. Temple plays Jamie Vine, an assistant who aspires to be and do more in the music industry. Vinyl features a very talented cast that makes the TV show worth watching, even if only for ten episodes.

Palmer (2021)

Palmer is an AppleTV+ original movie that stars Justin Timberlake. The film follows Eddie Palmer (Timberlake) as he’s recently released from prison. He forms a bond with a young boy who is an outcast in their small town. Ryder Allen plays that young boy, named Sam. Juno Temple plays Sam’s drug-addicted mother, Shelly. 

Juno Temple only appears in the movie briefly, but she gives one of the film’s best performances. She isn’t a two dimensional drug-addict character, either; you understand her struggles, and you both loath and sympathize with her throughout Palmer.

Philip K. Dick’s Electric Dreams (2017-2018)

Electric Dreams was Amazon Prime Video’s original science fiction anthology series based on stories by Philip K. Dick. The streaming series had one season. Electric Dreams featured ten episodes and included guest stars such as Bryan Cranston, Richard Madden, Steve Buscemi, Juno Temple, and Anna Paquin. 

Juno Temple stars alongside Janelle Monae in Electric Dreams Season 1, Episode 2, titled “Autofac.” The episode mainly focuses on a group of people who survived a nuclear war who make an attempt to stop getting sent unwanted goods by a major corporation. “Autofac” has a lot of really interesting twists, and Monae and Temple give really compelling performances, especially Monae as a robotic figure simulating human emotions.

Horns (2013)

Horns follows Ig (Daniel Radcliffe), a man falsely accused of sexually assaulting and murdering his girlfriend. As he begins to investigate her death, he develops the power to compel people to reveal their darkest secrets. He also starts to develop horns. Juno Temple plays Merrin, Ig’s murdered girlfriend.

In my opinion, Horns is an underrated horror film. It works so well because you become attached to Ig and his journey to get justice for his girlfriend’s murder. Temple mainly appears in Horns through flashback sequences, but you grow to know her and see why she’s at the heart of this film. Ig and Merrin’s love for each other comes off as something sweet and pure until it isn’t anymore. It’s a must-watch film for Juno Temple or Daniel Radcliffe fans.

Afternoon Delight (2013)

Afternoon Delight is a dramedy that follows a married woman who invites a stripper to become her live-in nanny. Rachel (Kathryn Hahn) and her husband, Jeff (Josh Radnor), decide to go to a strip club one night to spice up their sex life. Rachel becomes fascinated by McKenna (Juno Temple), the young lady who gives her a private dance.

Afternoon Delight’s main focus, at least for the first half of the film, is the relationship between McKenna and Rachel. The audience isn’t sure if Rachel’s fascination with McKenna is because she’s a bored housewife, attracted to McKenna, wants to blow up her life, or really wants to help McKenna, or a combination of all of these options. Afternoon Delight works so well because of Hahn and Temple’s chemistry and the build-up to where this is all headed.

Mr. Nobody (2009)

Mr. Nobody is a science fiction movie starring Jared Leto. He plays Nemo Nobody, a 118 year old man on his deathbed. He’s the last of his race of humans and his death has become a major event. A reporter (Daniel Mays) sneaks into his room to get the story of his life. Nemo then proceeds to tell the journalist various versions of his life story. 

In multiple versions, Juno Temple plays Anna, a young girl he grows to love, and in some versions, she becomes his partner, with the adult Anna being played by Diane Kruger.

One Percent More Humid (2017)

One Percent More Humid follows two college students who are childhood best friends that return home for the summer. The two women are still dealing with the grief and consequences of an incident that happened the previous summer. Both women begin to deal with their pain in destructive ways and by avoiding each other. Juno Temple and Julia Garner star in One Percent More Humid.

Garner and Temple are spectacular together in this drama. They both showcase two versions of grief and self-destruction in a really genuine and engaging way.

In 2014, moviegoers glimpsed a new side to one of Disney's most famous fairy tales with Maleficent, a live-action re-imagining that saw Angelina Jolie adopting the role of the Mistress of Evil. Most notably, the A-list actress won an Oscar for her celebrated supporting turn in Girl, Interrupted, and was Oscar-nominated for Changeling. Other film credits include Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Salt, Wanted, Hackers, Gone in 60 Seconds, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and its sequel, A Mighty Heart, and Alexander. 

Additionally, Jolie can be seen in movies like Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow, Beyond Borders, and The Bone Collector. Also, the actress can be heard in the Kung Fu Panda movies, Shark Tale, and Beowulf. Furthermore, Jolie wrote, produced, directed, and starred in By the Sea. Notably, Fanning has starred in movies like 20th Century Women, Super 8, The Beguiled, The Neon Demon, We Bought a Zoo, Trumbo, Mary Shelley, and I Think We’re Alone Now. Playing the part of King Stefan, a cruel, manipulative, tyrannical leader who isn’t the kind-natured ruler that we once knew, Sharlto Copley is our main antagonist in Maleficent. Most notably, he came into prominence by starring in District 9. Copley’s other notable film credits include The A-Team, Oldboy (2013), Elysium, Chappie, Hardcore Henry (which the actor also produced), Free Fire, and Gringo. Additionally, he can be seen in The Hollars, Open Grave, Europa Report, and The Last Days of American Crime. 

Outside of acting, Copley co-wrote and co-directed Spoon. Earlier this year, he starred in Ted K. Copley was also heard in Seal Team. Next, the actor will appear in Monkey Man. Copley is also currently filming Beast.

Furthermore, away from film, Sharlto Copley starred in PlayStation Network’s Powers. Next, the actor will appear in the new season of Netflix’s Russian Doll. 

Sam Riley (Diaval)

As Diaval, our lead's loyal friend and pet raven, Sam Riley plays our titular character’s “wings” in 2014’s Maleficent and its sequel. Most notably, the actor played Ian Curtis in the outstanding music biopic, Control. Also, Riley starred in On the Road. Other movie credits include Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, Byzantium, Free Fire, Suite Francaise, and Happy New Year, Colin Burstead. 

Away from film, Riley also appeared in Tinkershrimp & Dutch and SS-GB. Last year, the actor appeared in Rebecca, Radioactive, and Sometimes Always Never. Earlier this year, Riley appeared in The Vault. Next, he’ll be seen in She’s in Love. He's also signed on to star in The Duchess of Malfi. 

Imelda Staunton (Knotgrass)

In the role of Knotgrass, the eldest and wisest pixie, Imelda Staunton plays the sternest member of the magical trio in both films. Notably, the actress was Oscar-nominated for her starring turn in Vera Drake, and is well-known for playing Dolores Umbridge in several Harry Potter sequels. Her other notable film credits include Shakespeare in Love, Sense and Sensibility, Much Ado About Nothing, Nanny McPhee, Alice in Wonderland, Chicken Run, Arthur Christmas, Downton Abbey, and the Paddington movies. Next, Staunton is set to star in Downton Abbey: A New Era and The Canterville Ghost. 

Outside of film, Imelda Staunton’s television credits include Big and Small, Cranford, Little Britain, The Singing Detective, and A Confession. Last year, the actress appeared in ITV’s Flesh and Blood and Apple TV+’s Trying. Next, Staunton will play Queen Elizabeth II, in Netflix’s The Crown Season 5.

Juno Temple (Thistlewit)

Playing the part of Thistlewit, the youngest, most carefree pixie, Juno Temple is a sweet-natured character in Disney’s Maleficent movies. Most notably, the actress was Emmy-nominated for her role in Apple TV+’s Ted Lasso. Previously, she had starring roles in HBO’s Vinyl, Bravo’s Dirty John, and Sky Atlantic’s Little Birds. She also appeared on Drunk History and Philip K. Dick’s Electric Dreams. Earlier this year, Temple was seen in Apple TV+’s Mr. Corman. Next, the actress appears in Paramount+’s The Offer, which is currently filming. 

Away from TV, Juno Temple is known for Killer Joe, Black Mass, The Dark Knight Rises, Atonement, Afternoon Delight, The Other Boleyn Girl, Year One, Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, Notes on a Scandal, and the St. Trinian’s movies. She's also seen in The Brass Teapot, Horns, Far from the Madding Crowd, Wonder Wheel and more. Earlier this year, Temple starred in Apple TV+’s Palmer. Next, the actress appears in Crooks and Everest. 

Lesley Manville (Flittle)

As Flittle, the third pixie, Lesley Manville plays a cheery, sometimes thoughtless member of the magical trio in Maleficent. Most notably, the actress was Oscar-nominated for her outstanding supporting turn in Phantom Thread. Additionally, Manville gained acclaim and awards recognition for her performance in Another Year. Her other notable film credits include Secrets & Lies, High Hopes, Grown-Ups, Topsy-Turvy, Vera Drake, Mr. Turner, All or Nothing, Ordinary Love, and A Christmas Carol (2009). 

Additionally, Manville can also be seen in Romeo & Juliet (2013), A Five Star Life, Ghosts,  and Ordinary Love. Most recently, the Academy Award-nominated actress appeared in Misbehaviour and Let Him Go. Next, Manville will soon be seen in Everything I Ever Wanted to Tell My Daughter About Men and Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris. 

Outside of film, Lesley Manville’s notable television credits include Harlots, Law & Order: UK, and Cranford. Next, the actress will play Princess Margaret in Netflix’s The Crown. Manville is also slated to appear in PBS’s Magpie Murders. Currently, she is filming Starz’s Dangerous Liaisons. 

Brenton Thwaites (Prince Phillip)

In the role of Prince Phillip, the long-haired romantic who weds Aurora, Brenton Thwaites plays a dashing love interest in Maleficent. Most notably, he stars in HBO Max’s Titans as Dick Grayson, i.e. Robin, a.k.a. Nightwing. Thwaites also had a recurring role as Stu Henderson on Seven Network’s Home and Away. His other TV credits include Slide, Sea Patrol, and Blue Lagoon: The Awakening. 

Away from the tube, Brenton Thwaites starred in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, Gods of Egypt, The Signal, The Giver, and Oculus. He can also be seen in Office Uprising (which he also produced), An Interview with God, and A Violent Separation. Most recently, Thwaites appeared in Ghosts of War and I Met a Girl. 

Kenneth Cranham (King Henry)

Playing the part of King Henry, a ruthless and power-hungry king who attempted to conquer the Moors through diligent force, Kenneth Cranham was a secondary bad guy in Maleficent. His other notable film credits include Layer Cake, Oliver!, Valkyrie, Hellbound: Hellraiser II, Mr. Jones, Official Secrets, Hot Fuzz, and A Good Year. Additionally, Cranham is seen in Born Romantic, Gangster No. 1, Women Talking Dirty, The Boxer, The Legend of Hercules, and Film Stars Don’t Die in Liverpool, to only name a few credits. Next, he will appear in Warrior.

Away from film, Kenneth Cranham appeared in El C.I.D., Rules of Engagement, A Sort of Innocence, Heart of High Country, Shine on Harvey Moon, Danger UXB, Coronation Street, Rome, Without Motive, Dickens, The White Princess, Hatton Garden, The Spanish Princess, The Good Karma Princess, and In the Long Run. Most recently, the well-esteemed stage and screen actor starred in Finding Alice. 

Hannah New (Princess Leila) 

As Princess Leila, the daughter of King Henry and Aurora's mother, Hannah New adopted a short-lived character in Disney’s Maleficent. Most notably, the actress played Eleanor Guthrie in Starz’s Black Sails. She also had recurring roles in FX’s The Strain and Trust. Moreover, New was one of the leads in Antena 3’s short-lived The Time in Between. 

Outside of TV, her other film credits include Fuga de cerebros 2 and 2011’s short films, ReVersion and Super Mario. Away from acting, New produced 2016’s short film, The Dead Sea. Most recently, the film-TV actress was seen in Edge of the World. Next, New is slated to appear in Summit Fever.

Ted Lasso captured the hearts of audiences everywhere during a rough time. While I've met plenty of people who shared my enthusiasm and love for the commercial sketch-turned-show, I've yet to express exactly what it is about it that hits me so hard. There's a real magic to the Apple TV+ series that is hard to quantify. If it was hard for me to explain, I wondered if the cast could explain the greatness to me.

Surprisingly, or perhaps not surprisingly, each cast member of Ted Lasso who I spoke to had a different response to what the magic of the series is. There's a ton of reasons to love this Emmy-nominated series, but don't just take my word for it! See what the cast had to say.

Brett Goldstein

Brett Goldstein's Roy Kent faced a reckoning in Season 1, as the famous football legend realized he just couldn't keep up with the young talent anymore. Roy's coping with that in Season 2 and navigating the next step in his career. When I asked Goldstein about the magic of Ted Lasso (which he's also a writer for), he surprisingly didn't reference Roy, but instead a critical scene with Ted that happened late in Season 1.

There are certainly times I've been touched by the beauty of Ted Lasso and thought the AFC Richmond coach was a better man than I. Lasso's optimism and empathy are something to aspire to, and potentially a key to the magic of the series.

Juno Temple

Juno Temple's Keeley Jones seemed like someone completely different when she was first introduced to Ted Lasso, but perhaps the perception of her was influenced by the fact she was dating Jamie Tartt. Keeley has since found love with Roy Kent, and in Season 2, continues her public relations job for AFC Richmond. Temple had a different perspective on the magic of Ted Lasso compared to Brett Goldstein, but one that's valid all the same.

Juno Temple hit the nail on the head there. I spent a lot of Season 1 of Ted Lasso expecting cynically for someone to get revenge or for the shoe to drop. When it finally did, it wasn't at all what I expected, and that in itself was pretty refreshing.

Toheeb Jimoh

Toheeb Jimoh's Sam Obisanya had his fair share of struggles in Season 1 of Ted Lasso, but in the Season 2 premiere, he found himself in more of a comfortable role in the team. When I asked Jimoh about the magic of the series, he spoke to relatability and how one can find a lot of it in the Apple TV+ show.

People can relate to Ted Lasso, and apparently, find other people to share that experience with. I personally haven't spent much time on the fan pages for Ted Lasso, but Toheeb Jimoh's talk about the level of interaction has inspired me to check it out.

Cristo Fernández

It's hard not to smile anytime Cristo Fernández's Danny Rojas is on screen because he's the only character in the series that can match Ted's optimism. Unfortunately, the Season 2 premiere features a tragic (but darkly hilarious) moment for Rojas that he's forced to reckon with. Despite that moment, Fernandez spoke to the good presented in the series, which is undeniable.

People can be kind, and Ted Lasso is evidence of that. Perhaps that's part of the magic that spoke to so many during 2020 when the world was put on its back and renewed some of our optimism that things can and will get better.

Phil Dunster

Phil Dunster's Jamie Tartt certainly started as one of the most unlikable characters of the bunch, though as Ted Lasso fans got to know him, I'm sure they warmed up. Tartt made a surprise appearance right at the tail end of the Season 2 premiere, but perhaps not in a way audiences expected. Dunster confessed to me he also has struggled to explain the magic of Ted Lasso to others but eventually found a great way to break it down.

Honestly, telling people it's big on puns may be the easiest selling point for Ted Lasso. Watch for the puns, and stay for so much more. Credit to Phil Dunster for the suggestion because that's something I'll share with any curious party in the future.

Jeremy Swift

Jeremy Swift plays Higgins on Ted Lasso, but that's just one of the many roles he's held over his long career. If there was anyone who could effectively encapsulate what made a series special, I wagered it would be him, and Swift did not disappoint.

Those words are straight-up poetry. Jeremy Swift couldn't have said it any better there, and while I don't think I could organically work "saccharine" into my vocabulary if I tried, I may have to just to feel as eloquent as this Ted Lasso star.

Sarah Niles

Last, but certainly not least, I spoke to Season 2 newcomer Sarah Niles. Niles joined Ted Lasso as a sports psychologist named Sharon and was seen in the premiere helping Danny Rojas overcome his trauma. Niles has been a fan of the show since Season 1 and had a lot to say regarding its magic.

I agree with all that and can earnestly say I haven't felt as connected to a group of characters since The Office. That's obviously high praise, but not the only reason why this show is still popular. Perhaps the takeaway is that there are many things to love, which is why the series has connected with so many.

Ted Lasso is pure joy. What if I told you that when it returns for its sophomore season, you will get even more joy? That’d probably make you feel pretty joyous, no? That’s the latest reports regarding the status of AppleTV+’s winning comedy, which currently is filming episodes for its follow-up season. And co-star Juno Temple, who plays supportive soccer girlfriend Keeley Jones, let the cat out of the bag that season two of Ted Lasso will be two episodes longer.

Temple was speaking with Collider to promote her upcoming movie Palmer, starring Justin Timberlake, and gave a quick update regarding how the production was moving along in light of COVID and its restrictions. On the length of the season, Juno Temple reported:

Even she refers to the show as “joyously,” so it proves that the mood set by leading man Jason Sudeikis is infectious. The original Ted Lasso season on AppleTV+ ran for 10 episodes, and told the story of a ferociously optimistic coach (Sudeikis) who crosses the pond from the U.S. to the UK to accept a gig coaching a professional soccer team… despite the fact that he knows nothing about the sport.

Jason Sudeikis’ Ted Lasso is an enormously loveable and heartwarming character, but he also has some complicated layers to him, including a wife who has divorced him and a case of anxiety that sometimes wipes him out in social situations. This allows for more character development than what you might get in a traditional sitcom, and Ted Lasso proves it by delivering a full roster of supporting characters and talents that audiences quickly grew to love as much as they did Ted.

Now next season, you will have even more time to spend with the cast, as season two will run for 12 episodes instead of the previous 10. That explains why the shoot is taking longer, according to Juno Temple. Because they have more episodes that they need to film.

Where might the longer season go? While there weren’t major cliffhangers at the end of Ted Lasso season one, the team was relegated out of the main competition standings, and will now have to fight their way back into the top league in order to contend for a title. But that’s an uphill climb, and there’s still a rivalry between Ted’s existing team and the young punk superstar, Jamie Tartt (Phil Dunster), who they let go.

No word yet on when Ted Lasso will return to AppleTV+ but you can guarantee that we will be front and center the moment that the new season drops. If you haven’t yet seen Ted Lasso, do catch up on it. It’s as delightful as you have heard.

Admittedly, when I first saw that Apple was releasing a streaming service, I rolled my eyes and said, “God, not another streaming service” and didn’t get a subscription for some time. But then, Ted Lasso came out, and if anyone knows me, I love sports about as much as I love writing, and when I discovered that the series was about a Division II college American football coach who starts to coach actual football, I was like “Alright, sign me the heck up.”

Not only has Ted Lasso had great reviews for the performances of the actors, the story, and the pure optimism of the main character made this show a hit from the start, and while I feel that everyone at some point has seen Jason Sudeikis, the Ted Lasso cast is versatile and amazingly talented and they've been in a slew of different movies, shows, and other projects. From comedy movies to big-time TV hits, this is where you’ve seen the cast of Ted Lasso before.

Jason Sudeikis (Ted Lasso)

The star of Ted Lasso has been around for some time, and honestly, I’m surprised it took this long for him to get his own TV series. Jason Sudeikis has starred in multiple movies and TV shows, but we can just take a look at some of his most memorable.

First of all, he was on Saturday Night Live from 2005-2013 not only as a cast member but also a writer and had some guest roles on 30 Rock. From there, he went on to have starring roles in We’re The Millers, Hall Pass, Horrible Bosses (both the first one and the second one), and plenty more. Sudeikis also stepped into the voice work world when he went on to be in The Angry Birds movie, as well as its sequel.

If you’re looking for something that might tug your heartstrings, however, Sudeikis has also had a main role in the coming-of-age comedy/drama, Booksmart, so there’s no doubt that Sudeikis has some range, even with his main roles usually revolved around comedy.

Hannah Waddingham (Rebecca Welton)

Oh, Rebecca. I have to admit I wasn’t surprised at her evolution over the course of Season 1 of Ted Lasso, but I have to admit that it still made me smile, as almost cliché as it was. I think that was because Hannah Waddingham did such an amazing job at the role, but only when I looked up who she was before Ted Lasso was my mind blown.

Alright, for all my Game of Thrones fans, this will make you freak. Did you know that Waddingham was actually Septa Unella? You know, the member of the Most Devout and the septa that quite literally tortured both Margaery Tyrell and Cersei Lannister? Yeah, I didn’t know either and practically jumped out of my bed.

I was shocked to see this, considering it was such a different change of pass for an actress, but that just shows how great Waddingham is. If you haven’t seen Game of Thrones, however, you might have seen Waddingham in the most recent remake of the classic 12 Monkeys TV series, or the Netflix comedy, Sex Education, so she has her acting chops spread all over the map. Who would have thought?

Jeremy Swift (Leslie Higgins)

I love Leslie. He’s such a dork but also the hardest worker I think I have ever witnessed on TV, and Jeremy Swift brings that awkwardness with a side of charm easily on Ted Lasso.

This isn’t Swift’s first time on TV though, as he’s had roles in both Downton Abbey as Septimus Spratt, and the British TV series, Being Human as Emil Parsons, so it’s clear that Swift has had some experience along with the acting world.

But in regards to movies, you might have seen Swift as a spaceman in Jupiter Ascending way back in 2015, or you might have seen him possibly as a lawyer in the Disney sequel Mary Poppins Returns. Since then, however, it seems Swift is fully devoted to Ted Lasso, for now, so we’re going to see Leslie around for a long time.

Phil Dunster (Jamie Tartt)

Oof. That’s all I have to say about Jamie.

Nah, I’m not that mean, but Jamie in Ted Lasso is definitely a man to be worked on throughout the show and needs a serious attitude check multiple times. However, that doesn’t mean that Phil Dunster, the man behind Jamie Tartt, is just as bad.

Dunster is relatively new to the film world, but that doesn’t mean that he’s been in anything not seen. Most recently, you might have seen him Murder on the Orient Express, even if the role was a bit minor compared to some of the others. He also recently had a co-starring role in the biopic film about Judy Garland, Judy, one film that went on to get nominated for multiple awards.

In terms of TV, Dunster has had a couple of appearances in TV shows, such as portraying Count Andrei Razumovsky in Catherine the Great, a British miniseries talking about the famous ruler of Russia. Ted Lasso, however, is his first step into the sports world though.

Brett Goldstein (Roy Kent)

Okay. Raise your hand if you hated Roy at first in Ted Lasso but over time you came to like him. raises hand.

Again, another character that really rubbed my buttons the wrong way at first but, unlike Jamie, he really won me back by the end of the season, and that’s thanks to Brett Goldstein.

Like Phil Dunster, Kent is relatively new to the film and TV world, having only been in work for about a decade now compared to some of the others on this list. Even so, he’s had plenty of guest appearances on popular shows that might ring a bell for you. For example, he’s been on Drunk History, the comedic retelling of historical events on Comedy Central, the beloved Doctor Who, and a couple of British sitcoms such as Derek and Drifters, so the small screen is familiar territory for the actor. Ted Lasso, however, it where Goldstein really shines in my opinion.

Brendan Hunt (Coach Beard)

Admittedly, when I first saw Coach Beard in Ted Lasso, I thought he was going to be like the character cliché he portrayed – amazingly cringy and not done well, but over time I actually genuinely began to like his more nuanced personality, and that’s all because of Brendan Hunt and his excellent delivery.

For fans who don’t know, Hunt is actually one of the co-creators of Ted Lasso, so he’s been around for some time as a writer. Even so, Hunt has had a couple of acting roles that you might have seen him in, including Sudeikis’ We’re the Millers as well as Horrible Bosses 2.

Hunt has also had guest appearances in multiple hit sitcoms, such as NBC’s Community, How I Met Your Mother, and Key and Peele, so Hunt is no stranger to the ways of comedic television. It was only a matter of time before he brought those talents to his own show.

Nick Mohammed (Nathan Shelley)

I adore Nathan so much in Ted Lasso. He’s like the epitome of an awkward guy who only wants to be appreciated, and Nick Mohammed does a fantastic job of bringing that sort of shy but sweet characterization to the man. But Nathan has been around in some pretty big films that you might have seen him in.

In regards to drama, Mohammed has appeared in the 2015 space hit, The Martian, as well as The Nutcracker and the Four Realms. He’s also appeared in Bridget Jones’ Baby and has done some voice work acting as Piglet in the most recent adaption of the classic character, Christopher Robin.

Something else that Mohammed shares in common with a couple of other stars on this list is that he has also appeared in Drunk History as well. No wonder he’s so funny in Ted Lasso.

Juno Temple (Keeley Jones)

When I first saw that Juno Temple, who plays Keeley Jones, was in Ted Lasso, I knew that name sounded very familiar, and for good reason, as her career is full of familiar titles. 

One of her earliest debuts was in The Three Musketeers as Queen Ann back in 2011, followed by appearances in multiple other big-time movies. For superhero lovers, you might have seen her in The Dark Knight Rises, one of the more famous Batman adaptions. If you’re a Disney fan, Temple had a role in the Maleficent sequel, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil. For drama, Temple had a role in Wonder Wheel, showing off her acting chops, so it’s clear she has plenty of range. You maybe have also seen her in Atonement, Horns and the HBO series Vinyl. 

And of course, she also has appeared on Drunk History in the past. I’m beginning to see a trend here.

James Lance (Trent Crimm)

Trent Crimm in Ted Lasso is someone I can hold a bit of respect for considering I don’t think anyone would have taken someone like Ted Lasso seriously at first if this was a real-life situation. Even so, James Lance brings a bit of humanity to an otherwise stoic journalist.

James Lance has guest-starred in multiple British TV shows. Some of his roles being in shows titled Being Human and the ITV drama Boy Meets Girl, alongside the popular British actor, Martin Freeman.

Anthony Head (Rupert Mannion)

Well, we can all collectively agree that Rupert in Ted Lasso is an absolute piece of human garbage, but that doesn’t mean that Anthony Head is like that at all. In fact, I’d say that Head is a pretty cool dude, and his filmography reflects that. 

You might have seen Head in a couple of popular films, including Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, as well as Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters. But, if superhero or fantasy films aren’t your cup of tea, maybe Oscar-nominated films are, as Head had a role in The Iron Lady.

Among his most prominent roles, Anthony Head played Buffy's watcher, Rupert Giles, in Buffy the Vampire Slayer. But as of recently, he’s been in Jack Ryan on Amazon Prime and Drunk History like many of his co-stars here.

Andrea Anders (Michelle Lasso)

I’ll always think that their story was pretty depressing compared to the happy, upbeat show that is Ted Lasso, but I think Michelle Lasso is actually a much needed character to balance out the titular character. Andrea Anders does an excellent job of showing that family dynamic, and how unfortunate a divorce can be on a family.

Anders however has been around for some time, and Ted Lasso is not her first go-around of the TV sitcom. Anders has had roles in Joey, the Friends spinoff, as well as Mr. Mom, and a starring role in Better Off Ted.

She also had guest spots on Modern Family and Young Sheldon, so there’s plenty of comedic parts out there where fans of the show might have seen her – even if most were a little less dramatic than Ted Lasso.

While we all wait for Season 2 of Ted Lasso, we might as well do some hunting on where our favorite stars are. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go and watch multiple episodes of Drunk History.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I’m pretty sure George Michael Bluth has gone totally batshit in the above trailer for Sebastian Silva’s second collaboration with Michael Cera – the first being the chaotic comedy Crystal Fairy. Both films feature Cera playing against type, and in the case of Magic Magic, his usual nebbishness is replaced with a wide-eyed insatiability for making people uncomfortable; and I’m talking about both Juno Temple’s character, Alicia, and the viewers.

Magic Magic’s description made it sound like a “tourist in trouble” horror, but the trailer makes it look like a reverse home invasion thriller, or a visceral take on a cult movie. I don’t know what the hell is going on with Brink (Cera), Barbara (Catalina Sandino Moreno), Agustin (Agustin Silva), or even Sarah (Emily Browning). That’s the trouble with casting young people in lunatic roles these days: there’s more gravitas to being a nutzo when it’s implied that it’s been going on for decades. I could just be slightly put off by Cera’s manic gaze looking more like an awkward come hither romantic invitation, and the fact that I'm pretty sure Juno Temple could crush Michael Cera in a fight.

Alicia travels to Chile in her first vacation outside of the U.S., and ends up inside the house of sadism, unable to get her friends to rescue her in time. I do love that despite the out-there quality shading the entire trailer, it does come across as psychologically thrilling, rather than seeming silly or camp. Though Cera’s glee when he tells Temple to go stick her face in the fire made me giggle in a way that only camp performances do, so maybe I’m fooling myself here.

Even though the trailer says it’s out now on DVD, it won’t officially get released for another two months on August 6. While Magic Magic’s remote setting almost certainly won’t be more fun than the cabin in Cabin in the Woods, I think I’m more afraid to go to Chile.

It's still not entirely clear how Michael Cera will fit into the film Magic, Magic, an independent thriller with the plotline, "revolves around a girl vacationing with her friends in a remote area of Chile who slowly starts losing her mental faculties." But all the same, the rest of the cast has joined him to help make sense of it; according to Variety Juno Temple, Emily Browning and Catalino Sandino Moreno have all signed on the film, which shoots in Chile later this summer. The director is Sesbastian Silva, who has made two critically acclaimed Chilean films The Maid and Old Cats and now seems to be making his move toward Hollywood, though on a very stripped-down indie scale.

Moreno is the sole Oscar nominee in the bunch, thanks her breakout film Maria Full of Grace, but it's Browning and Temple who have the real career firepower right now-- Temple will play a very vague role in The Dark Knight Rises as "a street smart Gotham girl," while Browning was a bright spot in the other execrable Sucker Punch and saw her new art film Sleeping Beauty premiere at Cannes. Though Magic, Magic sounds a little too much like the classic "Americans in trouble abroad" horror movie setup, I'd count on something a lot more interesting from Silva. With production starting this summer, it seems likely we'll get a look at this one sometime next year.

One bit of The Dark Knight Rises news you were expecting, and another bit you weren't. Variety is reporting that not only has Joseph Gordon-Levitt closed a deal to take a role in the third Batman film, reuniting him with Inception director Christopher Nolan, but that Juno Temple is being considered for a supporting role as a "street-smart Gotham girl," though no deal has yet been closed.

Gordon-Levitt has been rumored for a role in the film for months now, with the latest speculation that he'd play a member of the League Shadows. Variety floats the likelihood of that role as well, though they also seem to have no idea who he'll actually play. As for Temple, her part is likely not one featured in the comics, though given how crowded the film already is with female villains-- Anne Hathaway and Marion Cotillard are both on board-- there's probably not room for another one anyway. Temple is far less well-known, particularly to Nolan fans, than Gordon-Levitt, though you've probably caught her in supporting roles in Atonement, Year One, Greenberg or Gregg Araki's Kaboom.

We'll be anxiously awaiting official confirmation from Nolan's people, since that might also come with details on who Gordon-Levitt will play. In the meantime share your own speculation in the comments.

Think you know Eva Green from The Golden Compass or maybe Casino Royale? Think again. Actually, if you’re a fan of the show Camelot, you might already have a sense of what Green is capable of. As she put it herself in an interview with Collider, her character isn’t evil, “I see her more as damaged,” and that idea of misinterpreted malevolence is certainly present in Green’s latest film, Cracks.

Green plays Miss G, a teacher and diving coach at an all-girls boarding school. She is so close to the girls on her team, she practically becomes like a mother to them – or maybe a sister – or perhaps a friend. That’s exactly Miss G’s problem; she has a hard time figuring out how close is too close, and when she’s pushing the limits when it comes imparting her own philosophies on the girls. When she gets a new recruit, a young Spanish girl named Fiamma (Maria Valverde), Miss G’s boundaries crumble entirely and the results are devastating.

This role would certainly be a challenge for any actress, but director Jordan Scott was confident enough in her abilities to forgo the audition process and go straight for Green. Still, being able to bring Miss G to life was going to take a lot of time and energy from every front – rehearsals, hair and makeup, wardrobe and more. In honor of the film’s March 18th release, Green sat down to tell us all about inhabiting Miss G’s twisted mind. Check it all out in the video interview below.

It was surprising to hear earlier today that Abe Sylvia's Dirty Girl had been picked up for distribution by the Weinstein Company, not only because several more significant films (like Robert Redford's The Conspirator) remain homeless, but because the company paid a cool $3 million for the rights. The road trip comedy about a high school skank and an overweight gay kid wasn't all that prominent on anyone's radar, so I felt compelled to catch it at today's press screening and see what all the fuss was about.

Now I know Harvey and Bob Weinstein have championed some bizarre and doomed films over the years, but I cannot fathom why they paid more than a few nickels for Dirty Girl, an incredibly uneven and mean-spirited excuse for a comedy that wears out its welcome long before it veers sharply toward sentimentality in the third act. Up-and-comer Juno Temple works fruitlessly hard as the utterly unlikeable lead character Danielle, a self-proclaimed high school slut who, wouldn't you know it, is just looking for the love of the father she's never known. Not much better is newcomer Jeremy Dozier as Clarke, shy and closeted and not callow like Danielle, but so pathetic and uninteresting that he's almost worse.

Set in the late 80s for no reason other than to deck out Temple in lavish blue eyeshadow, Dirty Girl is one of those movies that asks you to laugh at how stupid or sad or slutty its characters are before flipping it around with an "everyone is worthwhile" message at the end. Danielle and Clarke meet in a Special Ed program foolishly called Challengers ("The Challenger crashed!" Danielle bitchily tells the school principal), where they are assigned as "parents" to a bag of flour as an exercise about parental responsibility. When Danielle decides to take a road trip to meet her father for the first time in Fresno, both Clarke and the bag of flour come along, both as an obvious symbol about the importance of parents and a cutesy icon destined for the poster, changing facial expressions to suit each scene's mood.

Meanwhile Clarke's homophobic jerk of a dad (Dwight Yoakam, of all people) is on their tail, as are Clarke's prim mom (Mary Steenburgen) and Danielle's mom (Milla Jovovich) too. Somewhere back at home is Danielle's Mormon stepdad-to-be (William H. Macy), and waiting at the end of the road is her dad played Tim McGraw, who actually gives one of the film's better performance simply because he doesn't seem to be trying to so damn hard. Everyone else, whether the unconvincingly harsh Temple or the wasted Steenburgen, is marooned in the cliched coming-of-age script, which is peppered with a lot of gay jokes and slut jokes that don't make it edgy but terribly mean. It's one problem that the audience doesn't like any of the characters-- and really, aside from rote moments of "humanity" and "vulnerability," there's nothing to like here-- but Sylvia doesn't seem to care about them all that much either.

Especially with the terrific Easy A playing at the festival, with its open embrace of teen female sexuality and gay identity, Dirty Girl feels particularly out of place, an attempt at being edgy and raw that instead beaches itself on that border between irony and actual storytelling. Far be it from me to underestimate the Weinsteins and the marketing genius, but even with relatively big names on board Dirty Girl is all kinds of a tough sell. If it hadn't already been picked up I would breezily predict you'd never hear from this film again after TIFF, but unfortunately for all of us, it's coming back sooner or later. You've been warned.

Since she first came to the attention of many moviegoers (like myself) with her completely loony and lovable performance in Happy-Go-Lucky last year, Sally Hawkins has been pretty much missing from the movie scene. She has a tiny, tiny scene in An Education, and will be in Never Let Me Go with Carey Mulligan and Keira Knightley next year, but thus far hasn't done that post-buzz overexposure-- and thank God for that.

In keeping with her tendency to take roles in tiny indies, Hawkins is moving on to Dirty Girl, the directorial debut from Abe Sylvia about two teenagers-- a trampy girl and a overweight gay boy-- who team up to find the girl's real father. Variety writes that Hawkins and William H. Macy have signed on, though it doesn't say how they'll fit into the story. The movie already stars Lisa Kudrow along with Juno Temple and Jeremy Dozier, who we can safely assume will be playing the teenagers. Temple was good in a small role in Atonement, and Dozier at least looks the part; if they're smart enough to cast Sally Hawkins, though, we can probably assume they've got good ideas here.
