Among upcoming horror movies on the 2026 movie schedule is a mysterious one called The End Of Oak Street. For much of the year, I’ve been curious about what to expect from the J.J. Abrams-produced thriller, and now I have a much better idea. It’s a dinosaur movie with a twist – they're somehow invading a typical American suburb.

CinemaBlend had the opportunity to experience fourteen minutes of The End Of Oak Street in 4DX and hear from producer J.J. Abrams. It’s about a nuclear family with a dog led by Ewan McGregor and Anne Hathaway (in her fourth of five movies this year alone). They live in a quiet suburb, but one morning there’s a number of dinosaur sightings that rattle them enough to attempt to leave home. The problem is at the end of their street now has a cliff that leads to a prehistoric land. Here’s what Abrams said of how he got involved:

There’s absolutely a mystery afoot in The End Of Oak Street. But, when Abrams mentioned an “Amblin vibe” I was expecting a lot more comparisons to Jurassic Park than to Poltergeist. Between his comments and the footage we watched, I totally see what he’s saying. Check out this new clip:

This new summer flick and the actually cursed 1982 Spielberg movie feel like they come from the same DNA. Why? Because, it’s really more about the family and their dynamics than the creatures they are trying to survive. As Abrams put it:

The End Of Oak Street was written and directed by David Robert Mitchell, who was previously behind It Follows and Under The Silver Lake. In the same conversation, the filmmaker talked about wanting to connect “the average and mundane” with something fantastical. And, he had always wanted to make a dinosaur movie. In a quick interview with him at the event, I had to ask how much of his horror sensibilities to expect in the family-centered film. He said this:

How exciting! The End Of Oak Street may very much be a dinosaur movie, but it’s drawing from much different influences than I expected. And, that only has me more interested in it. The End Of Oak Street comes to theaters on August 14.

Sam Neill’s death has inspired an outpouring of stories from the people who knew and worked with him, and each one has made the loss feel a little harder to process. The Jurassic Park star died July 13 at 78, leaving behind a career filled with everything from dinosaurs and submarines to intimate dramas. Still, some of the most moving remembrances have focused on the warmth and humor he brought when the cameras were not rolling. And perhaps one of the most touching memories is a video with his fellow original Jurassic Park family singing a Beatles song together.

Bryce Dallas Howard shared one such memory on Instagram, posting a video from the Jurassic World: Dominion production. In the clip, Neill sits at a piano with Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum, the three original JP stars, as they sing the Beatles’ “Blackbird.” Goldblum plays the keys while his longtime co-stars lean in beside him, and it is difficult to imagine a sweeter image of the friendship that grew around these movies.

Howard explained that the moment came from the unusual period when the Dominion cast lived together while completing the movie during the COVID-19 pandemic. She spent four and a half months in a hotel seven minutes from the set with Neill and others, forming a close-knit bubble.

In her caption, Howard remembered being grateful that Neill was among the people with whom she endured that uncertain stretch. She described him as funny, warm, self-deprecating and kind, adding that he was exactly the person fans hoped the man behind Alan Grant would be. Howard also wrote about his generosity with his wine, stories and time, along with his love for his family, pets, farm and home.

That tribute adds another layer to the video. Neill, Dern and Goldblum are not performing a scene or recreating one of the franchise’s familiar moments. They are simply crowded around a piano months into living and working together, singing while the outside world remained frightening and unpredictable.

Jurassic World Dominion received plenty of attention for bringing Alan Grant, Ellie Sattler and Ian Malcolm back together nearly 30 years after Jurassic Park. The movie marketed their reunion as a major franchise event, and seeing the three actors share the screen again was one of its biggest selling points. Watching Howard’s clip now makes that reunion feel far more personal.

There is something especially moving about seeing Neill beside two of his most iconic co-stars. Together, the three actors helped turn Jurassic Park and the ensuing franchise into a classic and launch a series that has lasted for decades. Yet the affection captured in this video belongs to friends who shared premieres, sequels and reunions long after Isla Nublar first brought them together.

Howard also shared a smiling selfie in which she peeks over Neill’s shoulder. It is a much smaller image than the musical reunion, but it carries the same sense of closeness. Her tribute is less interested in cataloging Neill’s accomplishments than in showing the person his colleagues knew between takes.

The choice of “Blackbird” gives the clip added emotional weight, though the moment never feels staged for an audience. Their voices are loose and unguarded, and Neill looks entirely comfortable sitting next to Goldblum and Dern. It is the sort of candid memory that can say more about a person than a formal tribute.

For generations of viewers, Neill will always be the man who made paleontology look heroic and stared down a Tyrannosaurus rex as Dr. Alan Grant. Bryce Dallas Howard’s post offers another image worth holding onto: Neill at a piano, singing beside old friends and looking completely at home.

Many woke up this morning to the very sad news that Sam Neill died at the age of 78. The New Zealand-born actor’s passing was announced by his family on social media and, quite frankly, it’s hard to believe the beloved thespian is no longer with us. Fans and film pundits alike have since been paying tribute to the late Jurassic Universe star. And, unsurprisingly, a number of Neill’s former collaborators are doing the same, as Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum and a host of others have shared incredibly kind words about him.

Laura Dern played the Dr. Ellie Sattler to Sam Neill’s Dr. Alan Grant in the Jurassic movies, and the two had incredible on-screen chemistry. Aside from their work, though, Neill and Dern forged a personal friendship, and it was also delightful to see them reunite. Dern reacted to Neill’s death via a statement shared with Variety, and the Oscar winner’s sweet thoughts are so sweet:

Both Dern and Neill had the opportunity to reprise their roles as Sattler and Grant for 2022’s Jurassic World Dominion years after they last appeared in the franchise in 2001’s Jurassic Park III. In the more recent movie, directed by Colin Trevorrow, the pair were also joined by co-star Jeff Goldblum, who famously played Dr. Ian Malcolm. Goldblum reacted to Neill’s death on Instagram, sharing a still from JP and penning a brief, but loving, message in honor of his buddy:

Neill’s exact cause of death has not been released, though it’s been reported that he was cancer-free after having been diagnosed with a form of blood cancer in 2022. The following year, Goldblum spoke highly of Neill and said that he was doing well and that they had been in “constant” contact. Also joining this recent course of tributes for Neill was Chris Pratt, who worked with Neill on J-World Dominion. The Owen Grady actor said this about his former co-star on his Instagram story:

Additionally, another person to memorialize Sam Neill was Steven Spielberg, who directed him in the all-time classic Jurassic Park. Spielberg released a statement that was shared with Variety and said he was “saddened” by Neill’s death. Spielberg shared the following:

Jurassic franchise producer Frank Marshall also reached out in the aftermath of Neill’s death. On X, the producer shared a still of a camera monitor shot from a previous shoot and said this:

Sam Neill’s body of work is quite impressive and extends beyond the Jurassic movies. Sleeping Dogs (his film debut), Possession, The Hunt for Red October, The Piano and Event Horizon are just a few of the titles in his filmography. Not only that, but Neill also appeared on shows like Peaky Blinders and The Tudors. Neill left an indelible mark due to his body of work and, as Spielberg asserted he won’t be forgotten as an artist. Though I’d wager those who knew him will remember him fondly for being a great human being.

Steven Spielberg made some of the best movies of the 1990s. With beloved films like Hook and Saving Private Ryan, the Academy Award winner knows how to make memorable movies that audiences are still talking about. If you recall, Spielberg also defined 1993 with big movies like Jurassic Park and Schindler’s List. Now, we've learned about a cool story regarding how the dinosaur flick was a blessing to the director while he was making his historical drama.

Imagine wrapping up a fun dinosaur movie like Jurassic Park, only to head into one of the most devastating times in history for Schindler’s List. Well, in Vulture’s Oral History of Steven Spielberg flicks, Amblin Entertainment co-founder Kathleen Kennedy, cinematographer Janusz Kamiński, and screenwriter/director David Koepp spoke about what made Jurassic Park such a “blessing” for Spielberg while filming Schindler’s List:

• Kennedy: It’s the only time I’ve ever seen this happen with Steven: I ended up having to take over the postproduction on Jurassic almost entirely because he was so immersed in Schindler. He couldn’t compartmentalize the way he had before.
• Kamiński: We were doing Schindler’s List, and he was having satellite transmission to look at the Jurassic effects, which was totally surreal.
• Koepp: He said that it was kind of a blessing sometimes, in that he’d had these incredibly intense days on set and then he’d come home and look at effect shots for several hours of dinosaurs running around. It was actually a great place to park his mind for a while.

I can imagine what a “blessing” it must have been to take a break from the Holocaust-centered epic with effects shots of the prehistoric dinosaurs. While it feels like it could also cause whiplash, working on a fun dinosaur movie had to be a welcome distraction from such a heavy war film.

Even though Steven Spielberg was a pro at tackling those two different cinematic worlds in 1993, he admitted in 2019 that he actually hated working on Jurassic Park and Schindler’s List simultaneously. I can’t blame him, considering the Indiana Jones director had to switch from the emotional hurdles of his movie about Oskar Schindler to focusing on dinosaurs running rampant, which felt like a “burden” to him.

However, Spielberg clearly found a way to tackle two cinematic worlds, with both films having a massive yet different impact on cinema.

Jurassic Park revolutionized visual effects with its computer-generated imagery and inspired six other movies to expand the franchise. Schindler’s List thoughtfully portrayed the horrors the Nazis inflicted on Jews in German-occupied Kraków and was one of the greatest movies to win Best Picture at the Oscars.

Ultimately, the Jaws director proved that going back to his CGI dinosaurs was a great way to balance emotional storytelling with groundbreaking entertainment that helped shape cinema.

As challenging as it was for Steven Spielberg to move between Jurassic Park and Schindler’s List, it eventually showed he was more than capable of pivoting from blockbuster spectacle to devastating historical drama without reducing the impact of the two films.

Steven Spielberg’s films are great for many reasons, and that’s in part due to the director’s ambition. With that in mind, he – and Universal Pictures – certainly “spared no expense” when crafting 1993’s Jurassic Park. Based on Michael Crichton’s acclaimed novel of the same name, the film is not only a showcase of prehistoric thrills and chills but also one of the earliest instances of what could truly be done with digital effects. Spielberg and co. ultimately made a great film but, early on, even he was naive when it came to one element.

Over the years, the cast and crew have discussed their experiences on the production and just how much of an undertaking it was. SFX Magazine on CinemaBlend previously released a retrospective on the film, which included comments from late visual effects icon Stan Winston. The Oscar winner recalled Spielberg coming into the project with a lot of ideas from a filmmaking standpoint. One desire Spielberg had was actually inspired by 1986’s Aliens (for which Winston won an Oscar) but, per Winston, that request wasn’t feasible:

Winston’s reasoning is sound, as the film’s tyrannosaurus rex would need to be based on the look of the actual dinosaur. Conversely, the massive Alien Queen featured in James Cameron’s 1986 sci-fi thriller isn’t real, so Winston and co. could take liberties with the look to make it easier for their purposes. Still, I can’t criticize Spielberg for simply wanting to provide a practical element for his blockbuster. This, of course, all begs the question of how Spielberg, Winston and their colleagues ended up proceeding.

For the T-Rex, Winston and his team ultimately decided to create a one-fifth scale clay model of the imposing dinosaur, and they then turned it into a puppet. After that, the model was scanned by the folks at Industrial Light & Magic for the purposes of laying out the film’s visual effects shots. The plan may not have preceded the way Spielberg initially hoped, but it’s hard to argue with the results that ultimately materialized on the big screen.

It’s been interesting to hear behind-the-scenes facts about Jurassic Park over the years, as they provide keen insight into the finer details of crafting the beloved blockbuster. Some of the most interesting pieces of lore included a massive hurricane hitting Hawaii as the stars cast and crew were filming and the fact that Spielberg made dinosaur noises on set to try and make the experience more visceral for the cast. The director’s sound-based efforts in that regard actually contributed to Laura Dern’s belief that the finished film would be “horrible.”

But, over 30 years (and billions of dollars) later, the Jurassic Park/World franchise is still flourishing, thanks in great part to how the OG flick laid that foundation. Moviegoers should be forever grateful to Spielberg and his collaborators for all the hard work they put in on that movie. Of course, Stan Winston deserves credit as well for tempering Spielberg’s expectations regarding what was actually viable for the film as far as that T-Rex went.

Steven Spielberg may have any Jurassic films on the docket (as far as we know), but he does have a new movie, Disclosure Day, being released amid the 2026 movie schedule. That UFO film – which is written by Jurassic Park’s David Koepp – opens in theaters on June 12.

Usually when a theme park has something new on the horizon, there’s a great deal of press and promotion that goes along with it. However, Universal Destinations and Experiences has been known to sometimes go in a very different direction. Apparently, when it comes to Jurassic Park, the feeling is that little to no promotion is needed.

The Jurassic World Velocicoaster was mostly completed at Universal Islands of Adventure before Universal Orlando resort ever confirmed that’s what it actually was, and now a new Jurassic World experience has begun at Universal Studios Hollywood, complete with (via Inside Universal) Dr. Ian Malcolm explaining chaos theory to guests. I’m sorry to say, however, that he is not, at least currently, “shirless Jeff Goldblum.”

Jurassic World: A Journey Through The Eras is currently a “special event” at Univesal Studios Hollywood that opened this week completely without any official announcement. It's essentially an outdoor walkthrough attraction. It includes some animated dinosaur characters, as well as actors performing the likes of Ian Malcolm, Dr. John Hammond and Nedry. Guests can interact with all of them in character.

While details have not yet been confirmed, it appears that Journey Through The Eras is meant to be an offering at this year’s Fan Fest Nights, an after-hours ticketed event starting next month. If that’s the case, then this is essentially a soft opening/technical rehearsal, likely meant to make sure that everything is in working order.

The title of the event Journey Through the Eras would seem to indicate that the full experience will include not just Jurassic Park characters but Jurassic World characters as well. Thus far, only the former have appeared at Universal Studios Hollywood. Perhaps there is a lot more being kept behind the curtain for Fan Fest Nights.

If this is an official Fan Fest Night offering, then it’s also likely that not everything that will be part of the experience during the event is on display now. I’m not saying that shirtless Ian Malcolm is definitely going to happen at Fan Fest Nights, but it is an “after-hours” event, right?

Honestly, if they stage an interaction that has Dr. Malcolm inclined and with his shirt open, I might actually die laughing. That would be hilarious. That said, I won’t be convinced it’s not happening until Fan Fest Nights get started.

Last year’s inaugural Fan Fest Nights were incredible, and this year is looking to be just as great. We’re getting Scooby-Doo X Universal Monsters, an expanded One Piece experience, Sailor Moon, and the return of last year’s Dungeons & Dragons: Secrets of Waterdeep. If Jurassic World is being added to that, it's only going to make this year's Fan Fest Nights that much better.

Jurassic Park is one of the best movies of the ‘90s, and that's completely understandable. Steven Spielberg's sci-fi epic not only features superb practical and digital effects, but it also presents a story about what happens when too much power falls in human hands. Thus far, we haven't reached the point in which revived dinosaurs are a possibility. However, businessman Elon Musk has expressed thoughts on making Jurassic Park a reality, and fans have plenty of thoughts to share on that.

Back in 2021, Elon Musk’s business partner, Max Hodak, expressed his belief that Jurassic Park could happen in real life after 15 years of breeding and genetic engineering. After @nitikabier took to X to say a dinosaur-based startup would be fundable now, the Tesla CEO posted his optimistic take on that possibility:

Is this something we should hope for? Sure, dinosaurs like the Gastonia can be five feet tall. But there's also T. Rex, which is said to have been 20 feet tall, and the Lusotitan, which was 35 feet! As the movies have shown, things can get pretty dicey when dinosaurs and humans co-exist.

Elon Musk’s hope for a real Jurassic Park left me feeling shocked, and others had plenty to say as well. @AutismCapital sarcastically asked a four-word question that the scientists of the world, hopefully, pay attention to:

As all of the Jurassic Park movies have demonstrated, plenty! Imagine having to worry about a security system shutting down on a rainy day and having dinosaurs run amok. Unless we're dealing with Bracciosaurus that feasts solely on plants, I'd be quite concerned about crossing paths with a meat-eating dino of any kind.

In each Jurassic film, viewers see humans venturing into genetically engineered dinosaurs’ habitats and paying the price. @zacodil explained perfectly why a startup like this could be a bad idea:

Exactly. Life could find a way, but it doesn’t mean we should explore that opportunity. One of its stars, Jeff Goldblum, previously had the perfect response to real-life scientists trying to clone dinosaurs. And, in the words of his character, Dr. Ian Malcolm, “Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn’t stop to think if they should.” Remember, these sci-fi movies are spectacles, but they're also cautionary tales.

It’s possible that as the years go by, geneticists will have exactly what they need to revive dinosaurs. According to the scientists who revived the extinct dire wolf species, Jurassic World Rebirth’s technology could work through mutations that occur through over-experimenting with DNA. @TheAuraLens got real about what the real problem would be with an actual dinosaur park:

It’s true that the reality of a dinosaur park would be pretty cool if we saw these prehistoric animals live behind secure fences. And, of course, it could also be a viable business venture.

However, Steven Spielberg's OG Jurassic flick alone proved why the fictional InGen company would be an awful place to work. If a minor technical glitch or a blown fuse ruins its security system, it’s an open buffet. Not to mention, do we really have to worry about a disgruntled or tired employee forgetting to leave the gate unlatched or a vengeful employee like Dennis Nedry sparking chaos through corporate sabotage?

Elon Musk has already achieved big accomplishments like the reuse of orbital rocket boosters and leading the charge with electric vehicles. So it doesn’t surprise social media users like @antibearthesis that maybe an actual dino park could be the billionaire’s next goal:

This may all sound far-fetched but, if the past several years have shown us anything, it's that anything is possible. So, if we’ve already seen dire wolves making a comeback, will dinosaurs be next? @DogecoinNorway has another idea:

I think we can maybe live without fire-breathing dragons. Honestly, it's somewhat wild to be having this conversation at all. If anything, it's a testament to the impact that pop culture can have on society as a whole.

If Elon Musk ends up being the next John Hammond and creates a real Jurassic Park I'd tell you all to “hold onto your butts.” Let's hope that if Musk somehow succeeds in doing this (and that feels like a long shot), it's built in a location that's more secure than Fort Knox. When people talk about the legacy or what makes for a great Jurassic Park film, the focus is usually on groundbreaking visual effects, John Williams’ score, or the super believable on-screen dinosaur moments. Far less discussed is that, during production, the original JP cast and crew found themselves in genuine danger. And I'm not talking about animatronics or special effects but a real-life natural disaster, and franchise OG Sam Neill laid out the entire ordeal.

That experience was revisited just recently via a new interview Neill gave to Entertainment Weekly, as he reflected on returning to the role of Dr. Alan Grant for a Super Bowl commercial. In the process, Neill recalled surviving Hurricane Iniki while filming the movie in Hawaii in 1992. At the time, production had been underway for more than a week. One morning, the cast arrived early as usual, only to be told filming would not continue that day. He explained:

Initially, the threat did not fully sink in. Neill explained that the island grew unusually quiet as the storm approached. The air went still, and the ocean began to behave in unsettling ways, with the tide pulling back from shore.

As conditions worsened, the reality of the situation became clear. The Event Horizon lead and his co-star, Laura Dern, walked down to the beach together, watching the sea recede. The Hunt for the Wilderpeople star also shared a humorously awkward exchange he and Dern had at that moment:

The cast and crew spent hours sheltering inside a resort ballroom as Hurricane Iniki passed directly over the area. While the storm moved quickly and avoided even greater devastation, it still caused significant destruction. The Peaky Blinders veteran actor added:

Days stranded in Hawaii became an unexpected bonding period for the core cast, including Jeff Goldblum and director Steven Spielberg, whom Neill described as particularly entertaining during the downtime. Shared uncertainty and close quarters forged relationships that extended beyond one of the greatest 90s movies.

Looking back, Sam Neill considers Hurricane Iniki the closest he has come to real danger on a film set. Unlike the carefully controlled risks depicted on screen, this was unpredictable and beyond anyone’s control.

There is an unintended symmetry in that experience. Jurassic Park is, at its core, a story about humanity’s belief that it can master forces larger than itself. So it's ironic that, amid production, the people making the film confronted that same lesson firsthand, not through fiction, but through nature.

For audiences, the dinosaurs remain the most memorable threat of the Jurassic Park universe. For the people making the film, the most frightening moment came when the cameras stopped rolling, and reality took over. Fortunately, they all lived to tell the story and returned to the series many times.

In the broad view of their respective careers, Scarlett Johansson and Sam Neill would probably be connected by most via their roles in one of the biggest franchises of all time: Jurassic Park. Neill, of course, starred in the original movie, Jurassic Park III, and Jurassic World: Dominion, and Johansson began the new era of the canon last year with Jurassic World Rebirth. Long before they had dinos in common, however, the two actors previously had a chance to work together on 1998’s The Horse Whisperer, and more than a quarter-century later, the Kiwi actor still has some lingering paternal feelings.

Thanks to the new Super Bowl ad in which he is featured, Neill recently got talking about his time in the Jurassic franchise in conversation with Entertainment Weekly, and he was specifically asked about his relationship with Johansson vis-à-vis her new position as the face of the brand. While it’s been nearly two decades since they last had the chance to work together, he has nothing but feelings of fondness towards his former co-star, saying,

Long before becoming formidable covert ops expert Zora Bennett in Jurassic World Rebirth, Scarlett Johansson played Grace MacLean in The Horse Whisperer – a girl who is involved in a tragic accident while out horseback riding with a friend. Both Grace and the formerly friendly equine are traumatized by the event, but Grace’s mother (Kristin Scott Thomas) learns about a “Horse Whisperer” (Robert Redford) who can help the animal, and his help leads to a healing path for them all.

Johansson is now known for big blockbusters like last year’s Jurassic adventure or all of the movies where she plays Natasha Romanoff a.k.a. Black Widow, but The Horse Whisperer was a massive hit when she was just 14 years old – the movie earning both positive reviews and $186.9 million at the global box office.

Someday seeing Scarlett Johansson and Sam Neill back on the big screen together again would be fun if not just for the trivia (maybe they can plan something for the 20th anniversary of The Horse Whisperer in 2028?). The most obvious path would be Neill’s Alan Grant showing up in a Jurassic World Rebirth sequel, and it’s hard to imagine anyone saying no to that idea after old and new generations from the franchise meeting in Jurassic World: Dominion led to over $1 billion in ticket sales worldwide.

Super Bowl LX is nearly upon us, and many are looking forward to watching Bad Bunny's halftime show as well as the slew of commercials. Thus far, viewers have been treated to a tease for Ben Affleck’s latest Dunkin’ TV spot as well as a Raisin Bran ad featuring William Shatner. Now, Jurassic Park fans have reason to be excited, as the three main stars of Steven Spielberg's 1993 science fiction flick reunited for an ad. It’s a truly funny piece of work, and I’m still grinning at the sight of the stars donning their costumes again.

Ian Malcolm famously said, “Life, uh, finds a way,” and I believe that sentiment is just as true as the notion that advertisers will always find a way to bank on nostalgia. Xfinity is doing that in a fun way for this year’s SB by reuniting Jeff Goldblum, Laura Dern and Sam Neill for a TV spot in which they reprise their roles as Malcolm, Ellie Sattler and Alan Grant, respectively. The ad presents an altered version of the events that transpired in one of Spielberg’s best movies, and you can check out the funny commercial for yourself down below:

As fans can see, the TV spot initially plays on the fateful moment from Jurassic Park in which Dennis Nedry shuts down the power in the titular location, which sets the core action of the film in motion. However, in this scenario, all of that death and destruction is avoided due to an Xfinity employee saving the day by plugging in one of the brand’s routers. From there, Grant, Sattler, Malcolm and co. end up having a joyous weekend at John Hammond’s park on Isla Nublar, complete with swimming, jogging and web-surfing.

What’s particularly surreal for me is seeing the three center stars wearing recreations of their original costumes. Alan Grant’s blue denim shirt and red ascot are on point, and Ellie Sattler’s pink camp shirt are on point. Additionally, Jeff Goldblum even wears Malcolm’s signature black shirt and poses as he did in that iconic shirtless scene. I’ve honestly been impressed by some of the fun Super Bowl ads that play on classic movies (like that spot featuring Timothée Chalamet as Edward Scissorhands’ son). But this JP ad really makes me smile.

Fans of the Jurassic Park universe may also be delighted to see some funny nods to iconic lines and scenes from the original film. At one point, Grant – like in the movie – asks how Hammond recreated the dinosaurs only for the Xfinity rep to offer to show him. Malcolm, while at a buffet, also takes note of a “big pile of shrimp,” which alludes to his NSFW comment about dino feces in the movie. To top it all off, while on a ride, Grant gleefully calls Hammond to say he’s endorsing his park unlike in the actual film.

I think the only awkward part of the ad is that there seems to be a little de-aging tech involved, which seems a tad wonky. Nevertheless, the nostalgia outweighs any uncanny valley vibes for me this time around.

Although there’s a lot to love about this commercial, the biggest draw is the sight of Dern, Neill and Goldblum reuniting. The trio last reprised their roles for the 2022 film Jurassic World Dominion, which marked the first time all three had starred alongside each other in one of the franchise's installments since the original movie. It warms my heart to see that they still maintain ties to the groundbreaking ‘90s blockbuster.

The original core cast of the Jurassic franchise grew quite close while they were working on the film. In fact, they all endured what was actually a very dangerous-sounding situation. While promoting this ad, Sam Neill recalled how they faced a hurricane during production. Luckily, everyone got through the experience, which actually gave the group some time to bond with each other as well as director Steven Spielberg. I'd like to think that that off-camera chemistry bled into Neill, Dern and Goldblum's interactions on screen.

The chances of any of the aforementioned Jurassic alums reprising their roles in another film seem slim. With that in mind, I’ll just be relishing this Super Bowl and the nostalgia it evokes. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I need to give this another watch (and I’m also eager to know if that Xfinity rep ended up getting chased down by that Dilophosaurus).

But Laura Dern recently got honest about the doubts she and the rest of the OG cast had while filming that beloved blockbuster back in the day. Lets break it all down.

While we know that Jurassic Park is one of the best sci-fi movies of all time, actually filming it was a bit of a gamble. Laura Dern recently appeared on The Graham Norton Show, where she got real about the concerns she had while bringing Ellie Sattler to life. She told the story about her first day shooting, saying:

Honestly, points were made. Jurassic Park was the first movie of its kind, where CGI was used to add spectacle and stakes to its scenes. So for Dern and company, they were acting opposite nothing, and seemingly felt awkward as a result. Of course, we all know just how successful the renderings of the movie's dinosaurs would ultimately be in the theatrical cut.

Laura Dern celebrates Jurassic Park's legacy, but actually filming the original movie was a leap of faith for the cast and crew alike. There was also a learning curve for the OGs, specifically as they tracked dinos that weren't actually there. The Oscar-winning actress went on:

Of course, she was wrong. In the end, Jurassic Park was a huge success, kickstarting a franchise which still remains a beloved part of the pop culture landscape to this day. There might have been a learning curve for everyone involved, but those efforts definitely worked out. And to this day Ellie is one of Dern's most iconic characters.

As previously mentioned, Jurassic World Rebirth was released last year, and was one of the highest grossing movies of the year. It remains to be seen if a sequel is ordered, but it seems like a logical choice. Alas, we shouldn't expect it as part of the 2026 movie release list.

It’s not every day a Hollywood blockbuster makes cinematic history, not just at the box office, but in the way it absolutely goes for it on screen. When Jurassic World roared into theaters in 2015, it gave audiences one of the most unexpectedly brutal death scenes in modern blockbuster and Jurassic series history. This is the wild story of how the sequence came to be and how the actress played a hand in one of the franchise's most unforgettable exits.

More than a decade later, the internet still hasn’t let go of this brutal on-screen death, likely because we can revisit it over and over with a Peacock subscription. The scene in question? Zara Young’s mid-air dino juggling act turned Mosasaurus snack attack. The conversation flared back up when X (formerly Twitter) user @DynamoSuperX posted a clip of the Jurassic character's death, with the caption:

From there, it snowballed. Another post by @americanrequiem added fuel to the fire by sharing a clip from behind the scenes. If you watch it below, you can hear the actress Katie McGrath talk about the gruesome moment about to take place, and she sounds pumped.

The sequence, if you’ve somehow avoided it, shows McGrath’s character being scooped up by Pteranodon, dropped into the maws of another, screaming mid-air before the gigantic Mosasaurus devours her—essentially the dinosaur death equivalent of a Final Destination Rube Goldberg machine death. The scene is as brutal as it is bizarrely elaborate, and it left a lot of people wondering: Why this character, and why that death? The real answer is that Katie McGrath asked for it.

Katie McGrath Demanded A Memorable Death

McGrath, best known for her TV roles as Morgana in Merlin and Lena Luthor on Supergirl, had just landed her first big studio blockbuster role when she joined the cast of Jurassic World as Zara Young, Claire Dearing’s high-strung personal assistant. Her screen time was limited, but McGrath made it count by requesting a memorable death that would leave an impression. Director Colin Trevorrow was entirely on board.

As he mentioned to UPROXX in 2016, he wanted Zara’s demise to be shocking, calling it an “unearned death,” one where a seemingly safe, undeserving character is killed brutally to throw the audience off balance.

What we got was a full-blown dino attack that is more gruesome than some of the deaths in the best horror movies I've seen. And here’s the twist: McGrath did every part of it herself. She was strapped into a harness, hoisted into the air, dropped into a massive water tank, and filmed as she thrashed underwater. In the behind-the-scenes footage above, McGrath joked about the torment they were putting her through, but it was all very intense.

Others behind the scenes reveal she's got no wire on her at first, but that stunt people had to come and add the wires mid-scene so she could get "flung" into the air. Scary.

The Scene's Over-the-Top Legacy

McGrath’s death scene instantly stood out in a movie packed with dinosaur carnage. It was the first time in the franchise a female character was killed on-screen, and it remains arguably the most brutal. Even Jurassic Park Original cast member and legend Sam Neill weighed in during a press junket, asking with a smirk:

Critics and fans remain split on the scene to this day. Some found it unnecessarily mean-spirited, even calling it “deeply unsettling” (Birth.Movies.Death), while others hailed it as one of the most memorable kills in the franchise. Whether you loved it or hated it, there’s no denying its impact. Zara’s death has been the subject of conversation for more than a decade. And all because Katie McGrath wanted to make a splash, and that, she did—literally! The actress made history as the first on-screen death of a female character in a Jurassic movie. Pretty cool.

Jurassic World Rebirth was one of the biggest 2025 movie releases at the box office, but following recent years of disappointment I’ve had about the series, I decided to skip out on going out to see it this summer. Now that it recently moved to streaming, I finally got the chance to watch it, and I have to say, it’s a lot better than I expected. I enjoyed how it included a lot of ingredients that made the original movie a classic, but also took some new turns with its storyline I hadn’t seen before. Because I watched it knowing a sequel is in development, I want to talk about what I’d want most out of a followup.

Earlier this month, a report came out that director Gareth Edwards is in “final negotiations” to helm another Jurassic World movie after Rebirth made $868.8 million worldwide after opening during 4th of July weekend. Here’s the main aspects from Rebirth I’d want to see continue in a sequel.

I Want To See Scarlett Johansson And Jonathan Bailey Lead It Again

Jurassic movies have been able to ride the line between being acclaimed and B-movie monster flicks thanks to the talented actors that have been a part of them for the past three decades. In terms of Rebirth, I found myself quickly getting invested in Scarlett Johansson’s Zora Bennett and Jonathan Bailey’s Dr. Henry Loomis.

I’ve always liked the kind of magic Johansson can bring to the movies she stars in, but I think she especially fits well into her role as a covert operation expert. She’s set up as someone who agrees to the Jurassic mission to earn the riches she’s promised, but as the story goes along, it’s made clear that she’s not someone without values and a heroic quality to her. I was particularly impressed because there are not enough female action characters like her who actually feel like a real person, and aren’t inundated with these random superpower-like skills that make them pretty inaccessible.

And then there’s Jonathan Bailey’s Henry, who proves to be a lot more than just slutty little glasses, with his memorable performance as a paleontologist, who is revealed to have studied under Dr. Alan Grant. Bailey’s character brought the “brains” and curious wonder of dinosaurs to Johansson’s “brawn.” Zora and Henry are well written because they can balance each other out in a digestible way for a two-hour movie, and their chemistry was definitely palpable. I’d be really curious to see them evolve as characters together as they go through more dinosaur-related trials in a sequel.

As a sidenote, I also thought Mahershala Ali was a great presence in the movie – perhaps a little underutilized. I’d love to see him round out the trio, especially if he’s given an expanded role as Duncan Kincaid.

I'm Still Interested In The Idea Of The World Getting Bored Of Dinosaurs

While I was initially not very interested by Rebirth after a mixed reception (including our two-star Jurassic World Rebirth review), when I ended up checking it out myself, one main concept of the film really made me sit up and pay attention. I’m talking about the fact that the movie takes place years after dinosaurs have been reintroduced into the population. Rather than the human race continuing to use dinosaurs as a point of theme park entertainment, they’ve collectively gotten bored of the previously extinct animals, and they’ve been mostly left alone to live in the tropics.

When Zora, Henry and company seek some dinosaurs out it's in order to collect biomaterial within three of the species’ blood that could help cure cardiovascular disease. After much of the Jurassic World franchise focusing on the ways in which humans would react to the ability to bring back dinosaurs, I found it really interesting for the series to talk about the human race’s inherent tendency to get bored and take for granted new developments and technologies at a quick pace. I mean we live in a world where we can fly across the world, and there are self-driving cars, and it feels like we’ve already moved on from thinking about how amazing these inventions are, and as a society continue to be obsessed with what we haven’t figured out. Nothing is ever enough for us.

Rebirth ends with Zora and Henry having the biomaterials in hand, but I think there could be more to the story here. If a bunch of people are treated with dino DNA, there could certainly be some unintended consequences to the patients. And, what about more peril for the dinosaurs – such as mining them extensively for these materials if it does end up curing people.

I Want To See What Happens With Dolores

Lastly, I’m also quite invested in the sweet bond that takes place between Isabella Delgado and a baby dino named Dolores. By the end of the movie, the youngest Delgado family member takes Dolores out of her home to become her pet. Since Dolores is an Aquilops, which are small dinosaurs that are the size of a house cat or rabbit, the family doesn’t have to worry about Dolores getting any bigger, but I am worried about what the dino will do if they try to domesticate her.

We haven’t really seen this idea play out in a Jurassic movie, and I’d like to see more from Isabella and Dolores in a sequel. Not only does it intrigue me from a conceptual point of view, it also feels like a smart way for the series to have a little bit of Spielbergian E.T. vibes to it. We also don’t know if Dolores can survive outside the tropics, and I’m a little worried about that.

So, there are a lot of interesting threads for the sequel to use from here, and after the franchise has been mostly about theme park dinos, I’m really interested for the first time in a while. It’s nice to see Jurassic tackling new ideas rather than retreading too much, and I’m looking forward to what’s next.

Big spoilers from Guillermo del Toro's Frankenstein ahead!

I had a few takeaways after watching Guillermo del Toro's Frankenstein, which is now streaming with a Netflix subscription. Not only was the new 2025 movie visually stunning and beautifully scored, but it also left me thinking about the ambitions of man, and one specific quote from Jurassic Park (the movie, but also kind of the book). No, not "life finds a way," though that one might be applicable in its own way. I'm talking about when Jeff Goldblum's character, Dr. Ian Malcolm ,expressed his alarm and disapproval at the enormous feat that had been achieved – bringing dinosaurs back – by saying:

The line in Steven Spielberg's beloved 1993 movie was summed up more succinctly (presumably by screenwriters David Koepp and Michael Crichton), than it is in Crichton's novel. But Dr. Malcolm does make that point in the book too, going on to discuss the shortsightedness of some scientists and engineers, which he refers to as "thintelligence," or thinking too narrowly about the mission. Essentially, some people are too driven by their goal to consider the ramifications of what they might be creating.

Watching Victor Frankenstein's reaction to his monster being alive, and then seeing him fall out of love with the person he'd created soon after, had my mind returning to Ian Malcolm's words. He wanted to make life, to see if he could, but what exactly was his plan when he achieved his goal? He never seemed to think that far ahead, and when his creation wasn’t what he expected him to be, he rejected him.

Science is important. I just want to make it clear that I believe that, and am not here to make a case against innovation. While I won't pretend it was ever a subject I excelled at, I appreciate the importance of understanding the natural world and am grateful for the people with the knowledge and drive to continue to unlock its secrets. But I do find the moral dilemmas that can arise interesting and relevant, particularly as it relates to what the fruits of innovation become, depending on the people involved.

I've always found myself drawn toward understanding human nature, which might be why I was so appreciative of Guillermo del Toro's approach to adapting Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, as both the book-to-screen adaptation and the original story have things to ponder on the subject. In the case of the movie, I'm as fascinated by Victor Frankenstein's motivations, expectations and reactions, as I am by Elizabeth's response to the Creature, and how drawn she was to his pain, intelligence and purity. Though it's all presented in a fantastical way, it was impossible for me not to think about Jurassic Park, or to use a more recent (and non-fiction) example, Oppenheimer, in how scientific achievements can come with huge responsibility, particularly once you start factoring in the influence of other people.

If you're familiar with Mary Shelley's book, then you likely know that del Toro took several liberties with the story. I was apprehensive about that at first, but in the end, I loved his approach, particularly in the way it explored Victor Frankenstein's determination to achieve his goal, and the harsh lessons he had to learn from his actions once he did. Rather than embracing his creation for who he was, he rejected and tried to destroy him, and it came at a huge cost (Victor’s life, not to mention several other people’s). Maybe if he’d realized the major influence he still had over his creation after he created it, things would’ve gone differently.

I'll close this out by bringing up Sarah El-Mahmoud's article about the ending of the movie. I like the way she breaks down her interpretation of the relationship between Frankenstein and his creation, and the more hopeful message the movie has from how the book ended. CinemaBlend contributor Jerrica Tisdale discusses the topic of generational trauma in her reaction to the movie, which is also worth a read. I definitely need to think more about those aspects of the story.

There’s obviously a lot to unpack from the film. But I very much appreciated the way the story wrapped up, with the captain making a major decision. Would reaching the North Pole be a true victory if it came at the cost of his and his crew's lives? He seemed to have learned a lesson from Frankenstein and his creation's tales, as–once the Creature freed them from the ice–he decided to turn the ship around and try to get everyone home safely.

Like most people, I believe there’s only one truly great Jurassic Park movie, and that’s the original based on the Michael Crichton novel of the same name. I’ve enjoyed some of the sequels, but the Jurassic World films haven’t really delivered for me. That said, I genuinely liked Jurassic World Rebirth. Fortunately, it looks like the dinosaurs aren’t going extinct anytime soon. That assertion is based on a new update regarding Universal Pictures's dino-centric franchise.

Universal is reportedly looking to reassemble the core creative team behind Rebirth for a follow-up film. According to a report from industry insider Jeff Sneider’s newsletter (via ComicBook.com), Director Gareth Edwards is said to be in “final negotiations” to return. Also, lead stars Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, and Jonathan Bailey are all expected to reprise their roles. With no official release date locked in, the project is still in early stages, but the studio’s confidence in the IP and Edwards’ vision seems clear. The financial success of Rebirth is reportedly a driving factor in bringing the team back together.

Why A Jurassic Sequel Makes Sense

There’s little doubt this franchise remains a box office juggernaut. Jurassic World Rebirth currently ranks as the fourth highest-grossing film of 2025 worldwide, trailing only A Minecraft Movie, Lilo & Stitch, and Ne Zha 2. Given the shrinking window of major studio tentpoles left on the 2025 movie schedule, Rebirth is almost guaranteed to finish the year in the global top 10. That’s an enviable spot, especially as other blockbuster genres—particularly new superhero films—have seen sharp declines in theatrical interest. Dinosaurs, it seems, still have their pull.

Yet let's hope this isn’t a case of the powers that be at Universal being so preoccupied with whether they can, they don’t stop to think whether they should. The commercial case is clear; the creative one is murkier. Despite intriguing concepts like dinosaurs existing in the modern world, the newer installments have struggled to recapture the narrative spark and emotional stakes of Steven Spielberg’s original 1993 classic.

Rebirth drew flak for a formulaic plot and thin character development and, while Johansson, Ali and Bailey brought star power and charisma, their characters haven’t quite reached iconic status.

Will Audiences Show Up For A Sequel?

Universal now faces a pivotal decision: double down on what’s worked financially or take a creative risk to revitalize the franchise. As Rebirth came in well below the billion-dollar benchmark hit by 2022’s Jurassic World Dominion, there’s concern that the series may be approaching franchise fatigue. Past performance suggests that mixed word of mouth could put a dent in future box office returns, just ask Jurassic Park III and its talking dino.

Universal has a strong opportunity for success with another sequel if Gareth Edwards returns as director and the proven cast comes back. If the next installment can explore new narrative and thematic ground, it could revitalize the Jurassic Park film franchise, whose own legacy has overshadowed it for decades. While the next move may be risky, the foundation for success is already in place.

Scarlett Johansson now stands as the highest-grossing actor of all time, which makes sense, as she’s been headlining major movies for years now. However, as of late, she’s also been forging a path as a producer and as a director. Given she's also a huge franchise aficionado, it’s hard not to wonder whether she’d be interested in helming a massive blockbuster like a film set in the Jurassic Universe. Johansson, of course, recently joined that dinosaur-centric franchise this year and so we really need to know whether she'd take the reins.

There have been a number of directors to helm installments in the Jurassic Park and World franchise over the years, from Steven Spielberg to Gareth Edwards, who directed Scarlett Johansson in Jurassic World Rebirth. Quite frankly, the notion of Johansson working behind the camera of one of the films is interesting and exciting. CinemaBlend’s own Hannah Saulic posed the question to Johansson, who was accompanied by co-stars Jonathan Bailey and Mahershala Ali, and they said the following:

Ali: That’s so crazy that you would say that!

Johansson: Umm…..I don’t think–

Bailey: 2028 baby!

Ali: The ink isn’t even dry on the contract.

Johansson: You heard it here first. Uh… no, actually, because Mahershala has actually volunteered to direct.

Bailey: He’s going to do a one-man show of Jurassic Park, we just talked about it.

Johansson: Which we’re so excited for.

Mahershala Ali eventually joked that he was doing a “musical” version of the show (which I would kind of like to see, to be honest). Jokes aside, though, the Avengers star’s remarks suggest she’s perhaps not as interested in helming a Jurassic Park production as I would have guessed, despite her co-stars rooting for the possibility.

First and foremost, directing a Jurassic World movie is no small feat, as there are plenty of production variables to consider. Helming any kind of movie comes with its share of challenges in general; plus, with a Jurassic movie, there’s overseas filming, various production units and VFX and practical effects work to be done. On top of that, any Jurassic director is faced with massive expectations from the studio as well as fans. Johansson herself is a fan, as she’d been wanting to do one of the movies for 15 years. So I would imagine that, in a case like that, there’s a chance there could be internal pressure for a filmmaker.

Scarlett Johansson made her directorial debut amid the 2025 movie schedule with Eleanor the Great, an independent film starring June Squibb. That kind of movie is certainly a far cry from a Jurassic flick, but who’s to say Johansson couldn’t work her way up to such a blockbuster? Plus, given her fandom, I’m confident that Johansson could employ the key elements needed for a Jurassic movie if given the chance to sit in the director’s chair.

Of course, there’s still the matter of what actually lies ahead for the Jurassic franchise. Rebirth proved to be a box office success, grossing over $868 million worldwide against a reported production budget of $225 million. Given that, I’d say there’s a firm chance fans haven’t seen the last of the genetically engineered dinosaurs. In the meantime, I’ll be watching closely in case Scarlett Johansson is convinced to direct a film in the franchise. (I also want to see if Mahershala Ali really can’t get a musical off the ground.)

From multiple sequels, countless toys, and several video games that are way too difficult, there’s no denying Steven Spielberg’s dinosaur adventure’s place in pop culture. It should be no surprise that there are some really cool LEGO sets depicting the game-changing ‘90s movie and its biggest moments.

Similar to how the T-Rex in Jurassic Park ruled the Earth and everyone and everything on it throughout the all-time great sci-fi movie, LEGO has put out a set that is essentially the apex predator of toys. And I’m all about it…

With 3,000 Pieces, This T-Rex Is The King Of LEGO Sets

There are LEGO sets and then there’s this gargantuan T-Rex set from Jurassic Park. This isn’t some set you can build in an hour or two, as it clocks in at a staggering 3,145 pieces. And I’m not talking about a small, compact set filled with tiny LEGO bricks, because this thing is HUGE.

According to the description on the LEGO website, the fossil is a 1:12 scale model that stands over 12 inches high and has multiple points of articulation. For crying out loud, the jaws even open wide, meaning you can totally put the two included minifigs in there, have it fight some raptors, or recreate multiple scenes from the classic blockbuster.

Though There’s No ‘When Dinosaurs Ruled The Earth’ Banner, This Thing Looks Like It’s Straight Out Of Jurassic Park

Speaking of recreating iconic Jurassic Park scenes… Though the set doesn’t include the famous “When Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth” Banner that hung high above the Visitor Center lobby, this monstrous LEGO set looks like it’s straight out of the movie. Similar to the Jaws set I previously wrote about or the Home Alone house my colleague gushed over, the attention to detail is off the charts. Seriously, I could spend hours modeling this thing after spending days piecing it together.

The only thing stopping me (or anyone who buys this set) from recreating this unforgettable movie location is finding an Alamosaurus set to fight the T-Rex. Well, that and a diorama big enough to contain the dinosaurs.

It’s Admittedly A Bit Pricey, But I’m Willing To Spare No Expense

Like a lot of the bigger LEGO sets, this T-Rex fossil isn’t on the cheap end of the spectrum. Sure, it’s nowhere near as expensive as the new Death Star build (that’s in a galaxy far, far away in terms of price), but it does have a $250 pricetag. However, I’m willing to spare no expense to add this to my collection of LEGO sets in my office. And best of all, I don’t have to worry about sneaking it out in a Barbasol can (not like it would fit anyway).

This is a conversation starter, a prized possession, a reminder to the world that you are as obsessed with Jurassic Park as Timmy was with the extinction of dinosaurs all those years ago. I don’t need it, but I WANT it.

Rebirth is arguably one of the best Jurassic World movies, and we may have to thank the feedback of Spielberg himself for how it was handled. During an interview shared on ComicBook's TikTok, Edwards revealed that she shared an early cut of the film, saying:

Spielberg and Koepp directed and wrote the original Jurassic Park , which broke new ground with its use of CGI. And it turns out that, despite the respect that Rebirth tried to pay, they originally weren't big fans of all the easter eggs that Gareth Edwards wanted to include.

The OG Jurassic Park (which is streaming now with a Netflix subscription) changed the film world forever. So you can't blame Edwards for wanting to pay respect with his movie. It turns out the easter eggs were their biggest issue with Rebirth, as the filmmaker said:

Gareth Edwards is self-described superfan of the 1993 original, so I understand why he's want to include plenty of references and easter eggs when writing and directing Jurassic World Rebirth. Alas, that's not what the filmmakers who started the franchise wanted to see in their early screening.

So what happened? As Edwards explained, he took them all out and send a new cut to Spielberg, Koepp and whoever else was making the big decisions. As the Rogue One director put it:

Honestly, it sounds like they found the right balance in Rebirth. While we got some delightful connections to the 1993 original, it still brought a brand island, set of of circumstances and characters to the big screen. Currently it's unclear whether or not the studio will green light another sequel.

Gareth Edwards further explained the POV from the original filmmakers, and joked about his penchant for including references to Jurassic Park in Rebirth. In his words:

CinemaBlend's Jurassic World Rebirth review was middling, but audiences seem to be enjoying it more than critics did. The audience score on Rotten Tomatoes is currently 71%, and it's the fourth-highest grossing movie of the year. But whether or not Edwards gets to come back to the director's chair for a second installment remains to be seen.

In 1993, Jurassic Park hit theaters to teach us all the consequences of playing God. Through six sequels, that lesson continued to be hammered home with dinosaurs of varying cuteness, and blockbuster thrills, but humanity still hasn’t learned. With the 2026 movie schedule starting to come into focus, perhaps next year will be when we decide to stop tampering with scientific breakthroughs; especially when one of our teachers this time is Liam “The Naked Gun” Neeson.

Welcome to the world of Cold Storage, a 2019 novel from David Koepp, the notable screenwriter from the Jurassic Park universe. Adapting his own novel for the screen, Koepp’s tale of a contagion that could end the world sounds a lot like Michael Crichton’s The Andromeda Strain. However, as you’ll see in the trailer provided below, this new tale puts more of a Slither style spin on things:

Will our Taken hero calming and/or threatening someone over the phone ever stop being amusing? The not-so-serious tone of Cold Storage certainly helps intrigue me into investing in this picture, as it allows Liam Neeson to be very non-chalant about his heroism. It’s not quite the flat-out goofiness I praised in my Naked Gun review, but that’s not a knock.

Rather, it’s a way to set expectations for this upcoming horror/comedy ride, which is so adjacent to Neeson’s action hero era that it feels like a knowing parody in its own right. "But, Mike," you're probably asking your screen, "what about Liam Neeson's supposed action movie retirement? Also, I was promised zombies! Where are the zombies?"

Well, I suppose we can get to the subject of how Stranger Things' Joe Keery and Broadchurch alum Georgina Campbell have to contend with that nightmarish contagion, especially when it seems to do everything from decay its victims to making them outright explode. Those of you squeamish around gore (no matter how green it may be) may want to skip over the next image:

Yeah, that’s what we’re dealing with here, folks: a good old fashioned desert outbreak of a lab-created nightmare, with a handful of people standing between us and extinction. If that’s not a Michael Crichton-coded adventure, then my name is Liam Neeson. Except it isn’t… and I totally know what I’m talking about here.

2026 already looked like a fantastic year for upcoming book to movie adaptations, and that’s just me echoing the enthusiasm surrounding Project Hail Mary’s recent trailer alone. If David Koepp has engineered a dark comedy that takes Crichton bioethics and splices them with a James Gunn-style sensibility, with Mr. Neeson playing a deadpan supporting character, then sign me up.

Unfortunately, Cold Storage doesn’t have a release date just yet, so we’ll have to sit tight for more information. However, with the trailer being released this early, that could be a sign that the studio is bullish on what it's got in the can. So try to contain your excitement by seeing something already on the 2025 movie calendar; like, say, The Naked Gun, which is currently in theaters.

Fans have enjoyed returning to the world of the Jurassic Park franchise through the 2025 movie Jurassic World Rebirth. Of course, devotees who want to get physically immersed in that world know to go to a Universal Studios park for one of the attractions that allow you to roam among the dinosaurs. Though I have a feeling some recent visitors to Orlando’s Jurassic Park River Adventure may temporarily decide not to endorse that sentiment after a recent incident of literal immersion.

Such a moment was caught by TikTok user @ParksideWithHolly! Capturing the aftermath of two boats colliding on the track, what you're about to see truly feels like something you’d see in a Jurassic Park movie. That's even before reading the caption included, which suggests the trouble ahead:

The good news is that this actual shipwreck didn’t hurt anyone, and everyone actually got to continue the ride. So the real world stakes of this cruise scenario basically amount to little more than call for more than Jurassic Park River Adventure’s usual maintenance. Think of it as the aquatic version of a VelociCoaster rollback!

Which means we can really dig into why this joke is so funny to Universal Studios Florida parkgoers, as well as anyone who’s been diving into the Jurassic Park Universe through their Peacock subscription.

For those of you unfamiliar with the Jurassic Park River Adventure, the classic replica of Universal Studios Hollywood’s Jurassic Park: The Ride involves a cheeky Parasaurolophus accidentally knocking you off course. While adorable, this beast is responsible for sending you, the park guest, into the Raptor Containment Area - which is not the best place to be, seeing as various carnivores are running rampant in this storyline.

Stopping short of the Raptor Containment Unit or not, this sort of incident should have been rewarded with, at the very least, a chance to meet Universal Parks fan favorite Dolores the Aquilops - star of the new film Jurassic World Rebirth! It doesn’t look like she’s out in Orlando just yet, so if you’re riding the Jurassic Park River Adventure - be warned. Meanwhile, audiences around the world can meet Ms. Dolores in theaters, as Rebirth is still in its theatrical run.

Jumping into something like Jurassic World Rebirth can be daunting for two very important reasons; and only one of them is the dinosaurs. Joining a 2025 movie that’s part of a legacy including iconic cast members like Jeff Goldblum is something any actor might want to get advice for. Lucky for Jonathan Bailey, not only did he have a chance to gain such wisdom on the Wicked press tour, he got a purely Goldblum response for the ages.

Appearing on Capital FM’s Capital Breakfast in a recent sit down, Bailey was lovingly grilled on everything from Dr. Henry Loomis’ “modest” trousers to accidentally headbutting Ariana Grande in a Wicked rehearsal. The focus of our story comes from promoting Jon M. Chu’s 2024 musical hit, which allowed the break out Bridgerton star to tell this lovely story:

I don’t care what you’re talking about at the moment, getting that sort of go ahead from Jeff Goldblum is gospel. As we’ve seen with Goldblum’s message to Scarlett Johansson, the Jurassic Park movie franchise vet has been uber supportive of the next generation.

So if anyone was going to be putting pressure on Jonathan Bailey during Rebirth's production, it was going to be himself. Which may or may not have included a moment to puzzle out whether those questions about Scarlett Johansson's Rebirth fate were valid or not.

While Bailey understood the weight of Jurassic World Rebirth’s various challenges, he tackled them all admirably. Though with Mr. Goldblum's voice in his ear, I wouldn’t be surprised if part of his prep included rewatching the entire Jurassic universe by way of a Peacock subscription.

Whether that’s true or not, this stage and screen vet still went into director Gareth Edwards’ picture with this beautiful mantra in mind:

One could imagine that if Mr. Bailey doesn’t already know Jeff Goldblum’s thoughts on his Rebirth appearance, he’ll find out soon enough. The Jurassic Universe has steadily expanded since Steven Spielberg’s acclaimed 1993 sci-fi/adventure film hit theaters all those years ago. It goes without saying that the films are known for featuring plenty of spectacle, specifically dinosaur-centric mayhem. That’s not all it takes to make a good Jurassic Park film, however. CinemaBlend had the opportunity to speak to the cast of the franchise’s latest installment, Jurassic World Rebirth, during which they weighed in on what they believe to be the important ingredients for these blockbusters.

CinemaBlend's own Hannah Saulic had the opportunity to speak with Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey and Mahershala Ali ahead of Jurassic World Rebirth’s release. It was during that conversation that Hannah appealed to Johannson’s longtime love of the franchise (which factored into Steven Spielberg’s decision to cast her as Zora Bennett). When weighing in on what makes a good Jurassic film, Johansson shared some keen thoughts:

Everything the Oscar nominee says there is true, and her co-stars also made some solid points as well. Jonathan Bailey – who plays Dr. Henry Loomis in Rebirth – went on to say that a “sense of adventure” akin to the Goonies is also required for a good Jurassic installment. Meanwhile, Duncan Kincaid portrayer Mahershala Ali, also mentioned “good deaths.” That’s what led the Black Widow alum to share the following sentiment:

Jokes aside, the stars are right in that the best Jurassic Park movies (which are streamable with a Peacock subscription) manage to balance spectacle, character moments and intrigue. While the original film is iconic for its trailblazing visual effects, it’s also highly regarded for its story, which features layered characters played by impeccable actors. I mean, it’s hard to top the performances of the likes of Sam Neill, Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum and Sir Richard Attenborough. Of course, the visually stunning scenes hit hard as well, such as that first shot of the brachiosaurus, and the characters’ first encounter with the Tyrannosaurus rex.

Rebirth director Gareth Edwards sought to create a movie that also utilized the best elements from the franchise. He assembled a likable cast and aimed to expand upon the mythology laid out in this dino-dominated film saga thus far. Of course, there are also more than a few scares as well as a scene that sees a T. Rex swimming after scurrying human beings. If that doesn’t count as one of the “thrills” Scarlett Johansson refers to, then I don’t know what would.

When it comes to the future of the Jurassic franchise, I’d expect other filmmakers to adhere to the points laid out by the Rebirth stars. It remains to be seen just how those directors will manage to build upon what’s come before and keep things fresh. As is the case with life, though, I’m sure they’ll, uh, find a way.

It could be said that 2025 has been an interesting time for dinosaur fans thanks to Jurassic World Rebirth’s current run in theaters. Then again, that outlook may be a touch too positive depending on who you’re talking to, as critical reaction to Rebirth hasn’t been as kind.

But things could be worse! That development is a bit of a “glass half full vs. half empty” scenario, especially when put in the full context of the franchise’s critic approval rating percentages on Rotten Tomatoes. Looking at the numbers for both the Jurassic Park and Jurassic World movies, Steven Spielberg’s entry in the canon of the best ‘90s movies obviously sits at the top of the list. As you’ll see with the full list of the Jurassic Universe’s critic scores below, the legacy and reception of everything outside of that sci-fi classic is open to discussion:

Even putting my actual admiration for Jurassic World Dominion aside, I’m still shocked to see director Colin Trevorrow’s second dino blockbuster ranking as low it does. For now, I'll take solace in the fact that Jeff Goldblum's feelings on Dominion share the same sort of disappointment that the third Jurassic World entry is, by the numbers, the bottom of the barrel.

This then leads to scratching one's head when noticing that somehow Jurassic Park III got a stronger reception than both Dominion and Fallen Kingdom. Yes, the same 2001 sequel that broke up Dr. Grant and Dr. Sattler is somehow pretty highly on the list. The exact movie – streamable with a Peacock subscription – that gave us this scene is somehow the second most rotten entry:

Reckoning with that reality only leads one to spiral further down when one recognizes that only two titles in the Michael Crichton-inspired saga are actually sporting “Fresh” ratings. Right about now is when the bleakness is kicking in, because even a Distortus Rex would be likely to read that news and start humming “What Was I Made For?” in the corner.

Don’t cry, D-Rex; I can answer that existential question with two words: “The Fans.” Though the Jurassic movies have had a rough go with critics for the majority of its run, the fans still show up. Jurassic World Rebirth’s opening weekend grosses may seem to counter that assumption, but with an apparent rebound in terms of how critics see this franchise overall, things might turn alright in the end.

Jurassic World Rebirth is pretty early in its theatrical run, which means there’s plenty of time for fans to catch Scarlett Johansson’s battle with dinosaurs. As for the rest of the franchise, everything but Jurassic World is available to stream through Peacock – which is perfect for those of you who want to update their personal franchise rankings.

Jurassic World Rebirth is about a group of researchers who embark on an expedition to a remote part of the world where dinosaurs exist in order to obtain organic material for medical research. However, one particular fake trailer on the internet may have you thinking otherwise. A viral video that started circulating online set up a much different premise for the film and has fans searching a specific question about Scarlett Johansson. Now, she and fellow recently Rebirth cast member Jonathan Bailey are weighing in.

What Happens In The Viral Jurassic World: Rebirth Fake Trailer?

Towards the end of 2024, a certain internet video started circulating, and it was touted as the leaked trailer for Jurassic World: Rebirth. The video in question looked like it was filmed secretly in a movie theater or screening room, and the audio was muffled with audience murmurs to sound like a secret recording. However, the actual video showed an AI version of a trailer that had Johansson’s Zora Bennett character slowly turning into a dinosaur, with the trailer ending with the character completely evolving into a velociraptor with a blonde ponytail.

Said video is absolutely hilarious, because it’s inconceivable that someone would actually believe that the plot of Jurassic World: Rebirth actually involved one of the highest grossing movie stars in the world turning into a dinosaur. Fans seemed to think it was hilarious as well, which is why it started circulating. While I personally can’t imagine someone possibly thinking this was real, I guess the fake “secret movie theater recording” element of the video fooled some people, because it led to quite a few wild Google searches.

Scarlett Johansson And Jonathan Bailey’s Reaction To The Video

In a recent interview with Wired, Johansson and Bailey did an “autocomplete” interview where they answered fans' most searched questions about them on Google. Funny enough, one of the searches was, "Does Scarlett Johansson turn into a dinosaur?" That was a clear reference to the fake AI trailer that was circulating last year. The question elicited a laugh from both of the actors, and Bailey remembered why people could be Googling this question. He said (via Instagram):

He could barely finish describing the video without laughing, and the interviewer shared a screenshot of the ponytailed dinosaur for reference that made the whole discussion funnier. Johansson had a good sense of humor about it too, as she said:

The dangers of AI, especially when it comes to creative material has been stressed by the film industry. However, this particular case is so preposterous that it's hard not to laugh about it. As someone who has seen Jurassic World Rebirth, I can assure fans that Johansson does not in fact turn into a dinosaur but collects data from them while she fights for her own survival. The video is still a hilarious, inside internet joke to catch on, and it's even funnier that people had to Google it just to make sure.

When it came to making Jurassic World: Rebirth, Universal seemingly spared no expense to make the technology as real as possible, just like Steven Spielberg's original did all those years ago. In doing so, director Gareth Edwards and the creative team worked with Colossal Biosciences, a company spearheading de-extinction efforts using preserved DNA. The efforts have been strong, and their cloning technology has even managed to bring back the now-thriving dire wolves. The company boss who helped inform the movie is now chiming in on how accurate and possible the film's tech is.

In a recent interview with Comic Book Resources, Colossal Biosciences CEO Ben Lamm opened up about consulting for the new Jurassic World film, revealing that Edwards came to them in the early stages of making the film and wanted to discuss the specific differences and similarities between real life tech and movie tech in order to make the movie feel as grounded as possible. Lamm said:

As for how "realistic" they were able to get, it's hard to imagine what a more accurate depiction would be. However, that doesn't mean dinosaur revivals are just around the corner, despite what other Jurassic Park consultants have said.

Lamm explained that the organic material that is perceived to make de-extinction efforts a possibility is still a long shot when it comes to dinosaurs. While the original Jurassic Park has its scientists finding dino blood in a mosquito that is preserved in amber, actual scientists have concluded they likely will never find surviving organic material from the time when dinosaurs roamed the earth. As he told the publication:

Despite this being the case, Lamm still feels confident that Jurassic World: Rebirth will help audiences understand some of the elements of cloning technologies that were used for dire wolves, and which are currently being used to revive the wooly mammoth. While Jurassic Park explained the basics used in actual science, Rebirth goes a step or two things further, as the sequel touches upon mutations that can occur when overexperimenting with DNA.

The film also introduces the idea of this DNA being helpful for medicine development, and Lamm praised the efforts made to shine a spotlight on that side of it, saying:

While Jurassic World: Rebirth, and all the Jurassic Park movies that came before it are definitely an exaggeration of the capabilities of cloning tech, it’s cool to know that some of it is rooted in reality. The first film laid the foundation for the basic science used by companies like Colossal Biosciences for de-extinction, and the new film expands upon it, introducing other goals of scientists that could potentially help evolve modern medicine.

Dinosaurs becoming a regular sight again on earth may be a long shot, but there are scientists out there making major developments with this tech. And a movie is a cool way to introduce these unique ideas to audiences.

Generally speaking, I like the ongoing legacyquel strategy that Hollywood has developed as a means of continuing/developing franchises. It’s certainly an improvement over the industry doing both remakes and reboots, and I won’t lie and say that I don’t appreciate the hit of nostalgia that comes with seeing actors coming back to reprise a part they haven’t played in 30 years. There is also a creative challenge that comes with filmmakers having to tell a story set within an existing continuity to which they have to be faithful. It can be interesting to see how established elements are forced to evolve when matched with modern sensibilities, technology, and more.

Starting in 2015, this strategy was certainly successful for the Jurassic Park franchise. The overall quality of the movies in the Jurassic World trilogy – Jurassic World, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, and Jurassic World Dominion – is a mixed bag, but all of the hallmarks are present. There are new protagonists to follow, but heavy ties to the original remain, with the idea of a dinosaur theme park reexamined with a 21^st century perspective and characters from the canon returning after being away for decades (BD Wong's Dr. Henry Wu is in all three blockbusters and is joined by Laura Dern’s Dr. Ellie Sattler, Jeff Goldblum’s Dr. Ian Malcolm, and Sam Neill’s Dr. Alan Grant in Dominion). It’s textbook legacyquel stuff.

Now, Jurassic World: Rebirth has arrived, and it’s notably a horse of a different color. It’s not a reboot, as nothing about the continuity from the previous six movies has been specifically altered or ignored, but it is an entirely new story. The protagonists and antagonists are all fresh faces (there aren’t even cameos or surprise appearances from classic characters), and nobody is of a mind to try and create another dino-centric park. Instead, it’s simply a blockbuster adventure story that happens to be set in a world where dinosaurs exist.

To be frank, it’s not a film that I particularly enjoyed, as my opinion mostly lines up with the thoughts in CinemaBlend’s two-star Jurassic World: Rebirth review – but I’m nonetheless excited for what it could mean for the future of the franchise, as the creative opportunities are seemingly endless. Akin to Star Wars having now moved beyond the vaunted Skywalker Saga, there theoretically now exists potential for filmmakers to explore any kind of original story they want involving the resurrected creatures of prehistory and craft a wide variety of narratives with wildly different genres and characters. There is nothing that has to be specifically “continued;” the world is open for weird and wild exploration.

Funny enough, the best way to explain this might be to break down the stories featured in Jurassic World: Rebirth. My biggest issue with the film is that it tries to juggle two narratives that simply never coalesce properly: a team of mercenaries is on the hunt for blood/tissue samples from dinosaurs that can theoretically advance medical science, and a family on a boating trip finds themselves capsized in dino-filled waters. These two adventures clash in a way that ultimately hurts the movie, and in this new era of the Jurassic Park franchise, it didn’t need to be this way. Instead, these stories could have each been their own blockbuster with independent tones and stakes, and they could have helped evolve what audiences expect from a title in this popular series. It’s a mistake to learn from going forward.

Needless to say, it will be very interesting to see where the movies go from here (another project has not yet been announced as being in development). As much as I like both Scarlett Johansson and Mahershala Ali, I will be very disappointed if it’s reported that the next installment sees their characters return, as it would be a sign of a major opportunity being ignored. In the aftermath of Jurassic World Rebirth, there is tremendous potential for creative franchise-building, and I hope that the filmmakers and executives guiding the canon recognize and capitalize.

Jurassic Park is one of the best sci-fi movies of all time, and the franchise has remained a vital part of pop culture for decades. The property, which is streaming with a Peacock subscription, has once again returned to theaters with the new blockbuster Jurassic World Rebirth. And it turns out that one draft of that movie featured full-blown dinosaur sex. Let's break it all down.

It remains to be seen where fans put Rebirth when ranking the Jurassic movies, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Around halfway through the movie, the group of heroes see a group of Titanosaurus who are coupled up. It's a sweet sequence, but it could have been much more steamy. In a conversation with IndieWire, writer David Koepp spoke about the challenge of bringing this scene together, in his words:

Not Jurassic PORK! I'm scared to google this term, as I have to assume there's a porn parody somewhere on the internet. And it sounds like we could have seen the Titanosaurus getting busy in the original draft of this new sequel.

While CinemaBlend's Jurassic World Rebirth review wasn't overwhelmingly positive, perhaps audiences will be more kind. Later in the same interview, Koepp shared more about just how graphic the OG script was for this sequence, saying:

Well... that would have been a very different movie. While we've seen lots of murderous dinosaurs and a giant pile of dung in the Jurassic franchise, seeing two Dinos mating has never been part of the story. After all, they were originally designed to be unable to reproduce on their own.

Since Rebirth's original cut was less than two hours long, a number of scenes likely ended up on the cutting room floor. That includes seeing two giant dinosaurs knocking boots for the first time. David Koepp reflected on turning in that sequence, saying:

There are likely some audience members who would have laughed at seeing the Titanosaurus procreate. The Jurassic franchise is known for pivoting between horror and comedy, but usually it doesn't work blue. In the end, these jokes were cut from Rebirth, but maybe we'll get more adult content if/when the property continues with another big-screen adventure.

If Rebirth does well in theaters, I have to assume that Universal Pictures will want to continue the story with a sequel. The cast is certainly winning, especially the internet's boyfriend, Jonathan Bailey, and the great Scarlett Johansson.

I'm just some plebeian film fan, but even I can tell you that making movies must be some seriously difficult work. So, kudos to the directors who can do not one, but MULTIPLE movies in a single year.

For example, two of Francis Ford Copolla's best movies came out in 1974, those being The Godfather, Part II, and The Conversation. And, in 2000, we got Erin Brockovich, and Traffic, both from Steven Soderbergh.

Well, today, I want to talk about another Steven, that being Steven Spielberg. Did you know that he's had two films come out in one year six times in his lengthy career? But, here's the interesting part: It appears that when he did this, he directed one popcorn flick, and one serious flick, almost as if he needed the balance. Don't believe me? Check this out.

1989: Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade, And Always

The first time Spielberg had two movies come out in one calendar year was in 1989. That year we got Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, which has a lot of cool behind the scenes facts, and what might be Spielberg's least talked about film, Always, starring Richard Dreyfuss, Holly Hunter, and many others.

Last Crusade is a fitting, action-packed conclusion to what was initially thought to be a trilogy, and it's many people's favorite sequel in the series (though, I'll always personally be a Temple of Doom man, myself).

It's a great movie, but I actually think the more interesting Spielberg film of ‘89 was Always, which was a remake of Victor Flemings’ movie, A Guy Named Joe.

In Always, a pilot (Dreyfuss) dies, and he comes back as a ghost to guide a new pilot from beyond the grave. All the while, this new pilot falls in love with the ghost's girlfriend.

It's not the most dramatic film in the world (it's actually a romantic fantasy film), but it's definitely not an action movie, either. It's really sweet.

1993: Jurassic Park, And Schindler's List

Many will likely argue that 1975 is the most important year in Spielberg's career since that's the year that Jaws came out.

However, I would argue that 1993 is Spielberg’s most important year, since that's when he released two of his most important films, Jurassic Park, and Schindler's List.

Now, if you're a ‘90s kid like myself, then you already know the importance of Jurassic Park, as a lot of us saw that movie in the theater! Based on the Michael Crichton book of the same name, JP is the one of the biggest popcorn movies that Spielberg has ever made, and a lot of us were covering our eyes when we first saw it, especially during the raptor scenes.

Then you had Schindler's List, which is one of the greatest movies of all time. Spielberg has won two Best Director Oscars, but only one Best Picture trophy, and that was for this Holocaust drama.

With possibly the most serious film Spielberg ever directed, ‘93 is the clearest example of his popcorn/serious director sensibilities. So, like I said, it’s his most important year ever.

1997: The Lost World: Jurassic Park, And Amistad

Spielberg took a hiatus from filmmaking after ‘93, only to return with yet another popcorn flick in ‘97 with The Lost World: Jurassic Park. And, for his serious movie, he tackled a slave revolt with Amistad.

With The Lost World, which Spielberg himself doesn't even seem to like, we got an inferior sequel to the masterful first movie. Still and all, it is a popcorn flick with a T-Rex rampaging through San Diego for good measure.

Arguably the superior film of ‘97 was Spielberg's serious picture, Amistad.

Starring Morgan Freeman, Anthony Hopkins, Matthew McConaughey (pre-McConaissance), and Djimon Hounsou in his breakout role, it is part historical film, part legal drama.

It's a worthy film, and a certified tearjerker, but definitely not the masterpiece that is Schindler's, that’s for sure.

2002: Minority Report, And Catch Me If You Can

2002 might be Spielberg's most interesting dual picture year yet in that it seems like he flip-flopped the concept of directing one popcorn flick, and one serious movie.

What I mean is, his “popcorn movie,” Minority Report, often feels more serious than his “serious film,” the mostly light and airy Catch Me If You Can.

Minority Report, which stars Tom Cruise, is a science fiction flick based off of a Philip K. Dick novella. It deals with the concept of “pre-crime” and turns into a pulse pounding chase movie midway through that deals with the heady theme of, what even is free will?

Inversely, Catch Me If You Can, which stars Leonardo DiCaprio, almost feels like the popcorn flick this time around…if you were only judging it from its playful first act. It's based on the life of Frank Abagnale Jr., who was a con man before he was even able to legally drink.

It has its dramatic moments, but it’s nowhere near Schindler’s or Amistad when it comes to seriousness. So, it always makes me wonder – what was Spielberg’s “serious” movie in 2002, and what was his popcorn flick? Whichever it was, you can't go wrong because they’re both really good.

2005: War Of The Worlds, And Munich

Now, unlike 2002 where it was questionable which was the popcorn movie, and which was the serious film, there can be no doubt in anybody’s mind what was serious for Spielberg in 2005, and what was popcorn.

That’s because we got the bombastic, Cruise-starring-sci-fi-action-thriller War of the Worlds in June, and what may be Spielberg’s second darkest movie after Schindler’s in Munich, which came out just in time for the end of the year in December.

Based on the H.G. Wells' novel, Worlds has everything you could want in a summer blockbuster. It has Cruise running from explosions, aliens, and other tense and exciting action scenes. If not for its abrupt ending, I’d say that it’s one of Spielberg’s greatest popcorn flicks ever.

Munich, on the other hand, is a historical drama, and one of the few, “This is only for adults” movies that the director has ever made. It stars Eric Bana, amongst others, and concerns the retaliation after the murders of Israelis during the 1972 Olympics. It’s a pitch black film that questions morality, and like all good historical dramas, it draws parallels to modern day times, unfortunately.

It’s a shame that there’s only one more year on this list, because outside of 1993, 2005 might be the second best year in Spielberg’s career.

2011: The Adventures Of Tintin, And War Horse

Lastly, in 2011 we got what I might call two of Spielberg’s more forgotten movies in The Adventures of Tintin and War Horse.

Based on the Tintin comic book series (which means that yes, even Spielberg has directed a comic book movie), The Adventures of Tintin might be Spielberg’s most unique popcorn movie yet.

I say this because even though he was an executive producer behind some of the greatest animated shows of all time like Freakazoid!, Tiny Toon Adventures, and Animaniacs (as well as the, I-can't-believe-it's-not-Disney movie, An American Tail), Tintin was his first (and currently only) venture into directing an animated feature film.

And, it’s exciting! This was my introduction to the character, and I loved seeing him (and his dog, Snowy), on the hunt for hidden treasure. Now, if only we could get that sequel. War Horse, which stars Jermey Irvine, is the serious film, and it concerns a horse sold off during World War I, and all of the people the horse meets along the way.

I wouldn’t call it one of the best war movies ever made (It’s more the story of a boy and his horse), but it is quite harrowing at times, and certainly not what I would deem a popcorn flick.

Steven Spielberg’s best movies that come to mind involve memorable creatures that brought wonder, curiosity and human connections. I’m of course talking about Jurassic Park and E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, which used innovative practical effects to bring aliens and dinosaurs to life. On their anniversary, I just found out that Spielberg’s two movies were both released eleven years apart on June 11th, and you better believe the internet celebrated.

There is so much to love about Jurassic Park and E.T. They’re both qualify as some of the best sci-fi movies of all time for showing human elements in what look to be terrifying creatures. Whether you pet a “veggie-saurus” or go flying with E.T., they are the true definition of cinematic masterpieces worthy of celebration. However, I was today years old when @Unbreakable75 pointed out an amazing coincidence between the two movies I can’t believe I didn’t realize before:

Wow! June 11th was a powerful date for these two movies that both scored huge at the box office. While E.T. was able to surpass Star Wars as the highest-grossing movie of all time, Jurassic Park broke that record 11 years later. It proves that audiences had faith that Steven Spielberg would deliver another winner with its realistically looking prehistoric animals.

Considering dinosaurs have proven throughout their franchise to eat humans in a matter of seconds, I don’t think our favorite alien would be able to match up against them. However, @VideoKassette79 shared a fan-made poster of what a mashup of the two movies would look like:

Yes, the idea of E.T. in the world of dinosaurs would certainly have us “over the moon.” But it does give me some insight that the lost alien would be able to escape the dinosaurs’ toothy wrath with Elliot as long as they at least fly away from the T-Rexes. Velociraptors, however, would be another story.

With two of the Oscar-winning sci-fi classics having anniversaries, @tutbeemer suggested how to celebrate:

As so many great double features like Barbenheimer have done well with their same-day releases, why not? Although, what combo name would work for the two Spielberg flicks? E.T.-rassic Park? Jurassic Terrestrial?

Even though E.T. and Jurassic Park are two different movies by the same director, the lovable alien actually “phoned home” on the dino franchise. If you remember in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, there was an emotional scene inspired by E.T. with the fiery doom behind the brachiosaur looking like the lovable alien’s glowing heart. The movie sequel also had more awesome E.T. Easter eggs, like the toy of the doll making its way there, as well as the neighborhood where the sci-fi fantasy was filmed. These eye-popping Easter eggs are a great nod to the talented director and show that his movies all have a place in the same cinematic universe.

It’s hard to believe that these two Steven Spielberg movies both played on June 11th, eleven years apart from each other. It was on this magical date that the award-winning director redefined the magic of movies that still lives in all of our hearts decades later. No one really scrolls the channels looking for something to watch anymore, there are too many great streaming services and other ways to call up your entertainment on demand. Back in the late 20th Century, however, that was the only option, and so, as you flipped endlessly from channel to channel, you could only hope to come across a classic "remote dropper." One of those movies, like The Big Lebowski or The Hunt For Red October, that never gets old is a remote dropper, and those are what this list is all about. The moment you hit on a movie you love, and drop the remote for the next couple of hours.

Die Hard

Die Hard may ultimate Christmas movie to some, but it is always a must-watch, no matter what season it is. There are so many amazing moments in the movie, no matter where it is in the plot, you just have to stop and watch until the end when Al becomes the hero he deserves to be.

GoodFellas

Martin Scorsese's classic Goodfellas is one of those movies where the great performances and amazing dialogue just get better with time. It's a movie that has aged incredibly well, and really, do we need to explain why so many people call this the perfect gangster movie?

Friday

Speaking from experience, I can tell you, if you went to college in the '90s, Friday was part of a regular rotation of movies that were watched over and over and over again. It really introduced Chris Tucker to the world, and it's filled with so many quotable lines from Tucker and the others that my friends and I could basically recite the entire movie. There's a good reason that it is so meme'd today.

Ocean's Eleven

The incredible cast, headlined by George Clooney and Brad Pitt, is so utterly charming in Ocean's Eleven that it's impossible to pass up when it's on. Every viewing will give you a new favorite moment or favorite line. The pace of the movie is perfect as you speed along to the fantastic conclusion. It's a classic heist movie, among the best the genre has ever produced.

Anchorman

Talk about a movie with an endless amount of quotable lines. There aren't many movies out there that have as many as Anchorman. It's ridiculous and hilarious. The comedy is Will Ferrell at his zenith, in my opinion. He's always funny, but Ron Burgundy is his funniest character ever. Including Buddy the Elf.

The Godfather And The Godfather Part II

There is a reason The Godfather and its first sequel are so often ranked as among the finest films ever made. The dense, complex movies are still incredibly watchable. That is a hard combo to pull of, but that's what makes the Francis Ford Coppola's movies so freaking great. They have everything anyone could ever want in a movie. Watching them back to back is a perfect way to spend a rainy day.

Fast Times At Ridgemont High

With an incredible cast of future stars, Fast Times at Ridgemont High will never not be a classic. Some of the jokes have aged poorly, to be sure, but for anyone who grew up with the movie on cable all the time, it will always be a favorite.

Dredd

If you haven't watched Dredd in a while, you should. The Alex Garland-penned superhero based on the classic comic series is an amazing improvement over the first attempt to adapt Judge Dredd by Sly Stallone in the '90s. Whenever I want to watch a movie and can't decide what to watch, there is a good chance I'll fall back on this, since it never gets boring or old.

Malcolm X

I'm a sucker for a great historical biopic and Spike Lee's Malcolm X is truly one of the best. It's also my favorite performance by Denzel Washington, and that is really saying something. Based on Alex Haley's The Autobiography Of Malcolm X, Lee adaptation is fantastic from start to finish.

Raiders Of The Lost Ark

I mean, come on, how could Raiders not be on this list? The Steven Spielberg classic is one of the most fun movies ever made. It's quippy and exciting, and it's exactly the kind of movie that everyone loves to watch. And we all know it so well, you can still get distracted by your phone and not worry about missing any important plot points that you don't already know by heart.

Network

It's almost scary just how relevant a movie like Network, which was released in 1976, is today. Ned Beatty's speech about corporations running the country is so prescient it's crazy. The rest of the movie is just as good.

The Hunt For Red October

This, to me, is the ultimate remote-dropper. It's the movie that inspired this list. It's such a well-made movie, from start to finish, that it just never, ever gets old. The Hunt For Red October is a near-perfect movie in my opinion, and it's easily one of the best movies of the 1990s. Sure, Sean Connery's lack of an accent is a little weird, but he's so great otherwise, it's easy to overlook. Alec Baldwin was born to play Jack Ryan, and I wish we'd gotten more movies with him in the role.

The Big Lebowski

There are many people who, when asked what their favorite movie of all time is, will answer with The Big Lebowski. It's the ultimate shaggy dog story with a cool macguffin (The Dude's rug), and some of the best dialogue ever put on film, courtesy of the Coen Brothers. All the Dude wanted was his rug back, and instead, we got one of the best movies ever.

The Dark Knight

Whenever a director as talented as Christopher Nolan takes on a superhero movie, sign me up. Ultimately, though, it's not Nolan's awesome direction that brings me back again and again; it's Heath Ledger's legendary performance as The Joker in The Dark Knight. It has redefined how the classic character has been portrayed ever since.

The Princess Bride

From the time you're a kid, well into adulthood, The Princess Bride is part of your life. It changes with perspective as you age, but it's always fantastic. The story is so timeless, and the performances are so good, it just never gets old. It would be inconceivable to me to keep scrolling when I see it on TV.

Dazed And Confused

Alright, alright, alright. You knew this one had to be here. The ultimate coming-of-age high school party movie that somehow avoids so many of the tropes of the genre that other movies like it fall into. It helps to have actors like Matthew McCoughnehey, Ben Affleck, Parker Posey, Cole Hauser, and so many more to anchor the movie.

Sicario

I was entranced the first time I saw Sicario. The gripping movie is intense, but incredibly watchable. The performances from Emily Blunt and Josh Brolin are great, but it's Benicio Del Toro who really steals the show as a man on a psychotic mission to avenge his family.

Casablanca

Casablanca is quite possibly the most quoted movie of all time. The first time you see it, it almost feels like a parody of classic cinema because so many iconic lines originated here. Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman are incredible, and the movie has it all, from daring escapes to classic romance to even some wonderful humor. Yeah, it's a misquote, but I'll always "Play it again, Sam."

Apocalypse Now

The opening scene of Apocalypse Now, with the trees exploding and The Doors playing over the sound of a helicopter is one of the most engaging opening scenes in any movie, ever. The movie never lets up from there (unless you're watching the "Redux" version, which I don't recommend). Screenwriter John Milius manages to cram a war movie with so many classic quotes, it's a movie you can recite over and over when you watch.

New Jack City

If we're honest, New Jack City is a bit dated these days, but in its time, it was one of the most rewatchable movies of the era. The Crack Epidemic was very real, and no movie showed it quite like this Wesley Snipes-led classic. Plus, Chris Rock, who was just 19 years old at the time, puts in one of his best acting performances of all time.

Tombstone

Could Tombstone be the most quotable movie ever? It is certainly one of the best Westerns ever. That's before we even get into all the amazing facial hair in the movie. The whole cast is amazing, especially Val Kilmer as Doc Holiday, and that will always make the movie rewatchable.

Once Upon A Time In Hollywood

This one is personal. I love some Quentin Tarantino movies, and I honestly hate other ones. I suppose that's the mark of a great artist. His vision isn't always going to line up with everyone else's idea of greatness. Once Upon A Time In Hollywood is a truly great one, though. There are so many fun moments, great lines, and superb performances that it's easy to watch again and again.

Friends With Benefits

Rom Coms are always great movies to have on in the background as you do your daily chores, and my favorite for that is Friends with Benefits. Mila Kunis and Justin Timberlake have great chemistry, and, honestly, Woody Harrelson's performance is my favorite part of the movie. He's just hilarious.

Iron Man

In a way, Iron Man is on this list to represent the entire MCU. It set such a fantastic example for next three dozen movies that it's hard to imagine any other movie launching the most successful franchise of all time. And it's maybe the most rewatchable of all them.

Beverly Hills Cop

In the 1980s, there was no one funnier than Eddie Murphy, and the peak of that came in Beverly Hills Cop. It's the perfect movie for Murphy's irreverent, foul-mouthed humor, and every single joke in the movie lands perfectly. It also has a great plot that allows for more than just Murphy delivering those jokes.

The Game

Director David Fincher has a slew of movies that could be on this list, like Seven and Fight Club, and even The Social Network, but for me, the one I love the most is The Game. It's a movie I knew nothing about when I first saw it and it blew my mind. I've revisited it many, many times over the years since.

Jurassic Park

The summer of 1993 will forever be known as the summer of Jurassic Park. The movie dominated the box office all summer, and it launched a franchise that is still going more than 30 years later. The most amazing part is how well the visual effects still hold up, and that is why it is on this list. It will be watched until the end of time.

Mean Girls

Talk about quotable movies! Mean Girls is full of classics. Its also one of the most enduring comedies of its era and has even inspired a musical and movie adaptation of that musical.

The Silence of the Lambs

The Silence of the Lambs is the last movie to win each of the "Big Five" Oscars. It won Best Picture, Best Director for Jonathan Demme, Best Adapted Screenplay for Ted Tally, Best Actor for Anthony Hopkins, and Best Actress for Jodi Foster. That pretty much tells you everything you need to know.

True Romance

Tony Scott has a bunch of movies that could fit on this list. Top Gun, Days Of Thunder, Crimson Tide...it's a long list. For me, however, True Romance is his best. The Tarantino-penned classic also features one of the greatest scenes in movie history between Christopher Walken and Dennis Hopper that ends with Hopper's character's death.

American Fiction

The Oscar-winning American Fiction is the newest movie on this list, but it became an instant classic for me. Issa Rae's character never fails to crack me up in her first scene, and Sterling K. Brown delivering the line "I've taken a lover" is my favorite quote in a movie this decade.

Boogie Nights

Paul Thomas Anderson hit the big time with Boogie Nights, and there are a lot of reasons it's on this list. The music is amazing, and every scene is like a self-contained mini-film. No matter where you start, you are sucked right in. The end gets a little dark, sure, but it's still Anderson's most rewatchable film.

I think I speak for many when I say audiences love it when characters from two (or more) different movies or TV series come together in one special event, such as the epic monster movies featuring both Godzilla and King Kong, or when Scooby-Doo and Mystery Inc. appeared on Supernatural. Of course, for all of the mind-blowing crossovers we have been blessed with, there is still much to be desired in the realm of bringing two big-screen or small-screen franchises together.

In that respect, let’s let our imaginations run wild and dream up the movie or TV crossovers that would be incredible to see. Now, I cannot promise that many (or all) of these ideas are legally or even humanly possible, but why should we let that get in the way of the fun?

Toy Story And Small Soldiers

The first, and still one of the best, Pixar movies, Toy Story, showed us the world from the point of view of sentient toys in 1995. Three years later, Small Soldiers offered the same perspective, but with more of an edge and a more realistic approach. Seeing Woody (Tom Hanks) and other innocent children's playthings crossing paths with Major Chip Hazard (Tommy Lee Jones) and his AI-powered, militaristic action figures sounds like one wonderfully warped animated flick, if you ask me.

The Office And Parks And Recreation

As recalled by MovieWeb, co-creators Michael Schur and Greg Daniels initially conceived Parks and Recreation as a spin-off of The Office before it turned into its own separate and equally beloved TV sitcom. Still, there is no reason why Michael Scott (Steve Carell) and his former Dunder-Mifflin co-workers could not somehow cross paths with Leslie Knope (Amy Poehler) and other Pawnee residents in a mockumentary-style special.

Drive And Fast And Furious

A famous example of misleading movie marketing is 2011's slow-burn, Neo-noir thriller Drive, which one woman assumed would be more of a high-octane action thriller like the Fast and Furious movies, inspiring her to file a lawsuit, according to The Guardian. Honestly, I see this as a reason to give the people what they want and release a movie that sees Dom Toretto (Vin Diesel) and his crew facing off against Ryan Gosling's Driver.

Succession And Yellowstone

Having both premiered in 2018, Jesse Armstrong's Succession and Taylor Sheridan's Yellowstone would become subjects of comparison, with some even calling the Paramount Network hit "Succession with cowboy hats." I think seeing the wealthy and vindictive Roys indulging in a rivalry with the also wealthy and vindictive Duttons would make for one epic feature-length special or miniseries.

21 Jump Street And Men In Black

Among the hypothetical crossovers presented here, not all are too much of a stretch from the realm of possibility. In fact, there were actual plans for a film called MIB23, which would have brought Schmidt (Jonah Hill) and Jenko (Channing Tatum) from the 21 Jump Street movie into the world of the Men in Black franchise. Unfortunately, plans were scrapped in 2019, but I still have hope this insane sci-fi/comedy mash-up could work.

Poker Face And The Thing

Imagine if human lie detector Charlie Cale (Natasha Lyonne) from the Peacock original TV show Poker Face was trapped in one place with a group of people who may or may not be shapeshifting extraterrestrial organisms in disguise, like the 1982 horror movie classic, The Thing. She would be the only one who could suss out the imitators, but the rest of the group might be too paranoid to confidently trust her judgment. I think Rian Johnson should give John Carpenter a call.

Star Wars And Marvel Cinematic Universe

As a fan of both the Star Wars movies and of Guardians of the Galaxy, I love the idea of seeing the cosmic warriors from the Marvel Cinematic Universe visit George Lucas' galaxy far, far away. Considering both Marvel Studios and Lucasfilm are owned by Disney, this intergalactic epic is entirely possible, as long as the timeline is respected, of course.

RoboCop And Terminator

Omni Consumer Products' half-man, half-machine crime-fighting tool has crossed paths with Skynet's mechanical killer before, but only on the pages of a Dark Horse comic book series from Frank Miller. Why Hollywood has not yet tried its hand at a movie that pits the hero from RoboCop against any of the antagonistic cyborgs from the Terminator franchise is beyond me.

James Bond And Jason Bourne

The Matt Damon-led Jason Bourne movies are often cited as the inspiration for the James Bond franchise's grittier tone, especially after Daniel Craig took over as 007. If there could be a way to get the American amnesiac assassin and the suave MI6 agent together in a room (which would likely be destroyed by the end), that could make for one of the best spy movies ever.

Sherlock And Doctor Who

Two of the BBC's most popular series, Sherlock and Doctor Who, both involve a highly intelligent, fashionable, and sometimes arrogant protagonist who is accompanied by a reliable companion. For that and many other reasons, I think it would be amazing to see them come together in a special or miniseries in which Holmes, hitting a wall with a case that defies logic, finds unexpected help from The Doctor.

DC Universe And Marvel Cinematic Universe

The two biggest comic book publishing companies in the world have not always been rivals and have indulged in creating stories that see DC heroes and Marvel heroes fighting side by side. Considering his strong ties to the MCU, it can't be out of the question for DC Studios head James Gunn to at least call a meeting with Kevin Feige to discuss bringing this kind of crossover to the big screen, which might end up being the greatest superhero movie ever made.

John Wick And Kill Bill

While largely differing in tone, the John Wick movies and Quentin Tarantino's two-part Kill Bill saga are pretty similar in concept, following two retired, legendary assassins waging a vengeful war on those who wronged them. Who is to say that Keanu Reeves' gun-fu master and Uma Thurman's The Bride never crossed paths in their deadly heyday?

The Evil Dead And The Exorcist

Two of the most popular franchises of demonic possession movies, The Exorcist and The Evil Dead, could not be more different from one another, which is exactly why I want to see them converge. In my pitch, grown-up Regan MacNeill's (Linda Blair) expertise in devilish activity is enlisted to help with a new case, but when it spirals out of control, the only one who can help is chainsaw-headed Deadite hunter, Ash Williams (Bruce Campbell).

Inception And A Nightmare On Elm Street

When you think about it, Leonardo DiCaprio's Dom Cobb from Christopher Nolan's Inception essentially has the same job as Freddy Krueger from A Nightmare on Elm Street. Just imagine how much more challenging his team's adventures through the subconscious would be with Robert Englund's sadistic, badly burned boogeyman invading the same dream.

Alien, Predator, And Jurassic Park

You know what I think the Alien vs. Predator movies were missing? Dinosaurs. Putting these two fearsome extraterrestrials in yet another battle, but while trapped on one of the prehistoric animal-infested islands from the Jurassic Park films, could result in one of the most exciting entries from any of these franchises. You would not even need human characters to make it work because seeing both the Predator and the Xenomorph knocked down a peg by the T-Rex as a common enemy would be more than enough.

Ghostbusters And Casper

We already know that Casper and the Ghostbusters exist in the same universe, thanks to Dan Aykroyd's cameo as Ray Stantz in the Friendly Ghost's 1995 live-action feature adaptation of the animated series. I am sure Casper would happily help the paranormal exterminators take on a few evil spirits, even after an awkward misunderstanding were to happen when they first meet.

Mad Max And Dredd

The great thing about post-apocalyptic movies is that each has a different, intriguing interpretation of what a dystopian society would look like. However, what if the Wasteland from George Miller's Mad Max movies existed just across the (dried up) pond from Mega City One in Dredd? The gritty, visually stunning possibilities are endless.

Blade And Twilight

Allow me to make one thing clear: I am not suggesting that Marvel Comics' vampire hunter, originally played on the big screen by Wesley Snipes, should show up in the Twilight movies just to see Robert Pattinson's Edward, Kristen Stewart's Bella, and other bloodsuckers get slaughtered. I actually think Blade's presence could give the persistent haters of the films based on Stephanie Meyer's YA novel series a reason to treat the franchise with a little more respect.

Indiana Jones And Marvel Cinematic Universe

Since Disney owns both Marvel Studios and Lucasfilm, I wonder if anyone there has ever tinkered with the idea of putting a character like Indiana Jones in the MCU. I mean, he and Steve "Captain America" Rogers would have been alive around the same time and, as staunch anti-fascists, probably would have gotten along great. I doubt Harrison Ford's casting as Thunderbolt Ross in Captain America: Brave New World would cause much confusion, either.

Monk And Psych

The USA Network used to run promos bringing characters from their respective series together, including one in which Tony Shalhoub's eponymous detective from Monk suspects that Shawn Spencer (James Roday Rodriguez) is not a real psychic. It makes me wish that we could have seen an official crossover episode that would have seen plenty of funny bickering between the carefree Shawn and someone as neurotic as Adrian Monk, who at least might have gotten along with Gus (Dulé Hill).

Power Rangers And Godzilla

By combining their respective, animal-shaped vehicles into one large Megazord, the Power Rangers have managed to face off against bizarre creatures of all sizes, which means they could realistically take on Godzilla. However, if I were to pitch this crossover, the rangers would eventually have to join forces with the King of the Monsters after an even larger creature emerges to wreak havoc on Angel Grove.

Bill & Ted And Wayne's World

Perhaps we never saw Bill S. Preston Esq. (Alex Winter) and Ted "Theodore" Logan (Keanu Reeves) take Wayne Campbell (Mike Myers) and Garth Algar (Dana Carvey) on a trip through time because we are not worthy of such an excellent idea. Then again, if Myers and Carvey can still get together for Wayne's World reunions on SNL and Reeves and Winter could come back for 2020's Bill & Ted Face the Music, who says it doesn't have potential?

Dirty Harry And Death Wish

I think the greatest Dirty Harry movie we never saw would have put Clint Eastwood's Lt. Callahan on the case of a murderer targeting the most vicious gangs in San Francisco, which would turn out to be Charles Bronson's Paul Kersey from Death Wish. Inevitably, I think Harry would be lured into an alliance with the vengeful vigilante, coming to believe that his more permanent methods of justice align with his own.

Buffy The Vampire Slayer And Sabrina The Teenage Witch

It's a shame that there was never any attempt to make an official crossover between Buffy the Vampire Slayer with Sarah Michelle Gellar and the Melissa Joan Hart-led Sabrina the Teenage Witch while they were still on the air. The coming-of-age supernatural series may have differed dramatically in tone, but that is just what would have made the collaboration such a blast.

Harry Potter And The Dresden Files

If fans of the Harry Potter movies have ever been interested in trying out something a bit darker and grittier, there is another literary modern-day wizard with the same first name: Harry Dresden, played by Paul Blackthorne on the SyFy series, The Dresden Files. I think it would be fun to see J.K. Rowling's The Boy Who Lived helping author Jim Butcher's Chicago-based P.I. solve a grisly mystery in which magic is involved.

The Munsters And The Addams Family

They may have been on different networks and produced by opposing studios, but how in the world has there never been an attempt to introduce the Munsters to the Addams Family? I would even be open to getting the actors from Rob Zombie's reboot movie to star alongside the cast of Netflix's Wednesday if it meant getting just a glimpse at these creepy, kooky families finally coming together.

It And Terrifier

There are no two villains in the subgenre of creepy clown movies more iconic than Pennywise from It and Art the Clown from Terrifier. I can't imagine a horror fan being against the idea of bringing Bill Skarsgård's shapeshifting fear demon from Andy Muschietti's blockbuster adaptation of Stephen King's novel and David Howard Thornton from Damien Leone's shocking indie slashers together for one brutal showdown that would have blood and white face paint smeared across the screen.

Hocus Pocus And Trick 'R Treat

In Disney's cult favorite, family-friendly witch movie, 1993's Hocus Pocus, our young protagonists go through a lot of trouble to defeat the Sanderson Sisters (played by Bette Midler, Kathy Najimy, and Sarah Jessica Parker). I cannot help but wonder how easily those sinister spellcasters could have been taken care of by the mischievous Sam from the 2007 anthology horror movie favorite, Trick 'r Treat.

Hoarders And Storage Wars

You know those people on the show Hoarders who compulsively keep hold of any item they possess, no matter how unnecessary or even unhealthy it may be? I have a potential idea to help them: put them on another A&E reality show called Storage Wars and tell them that they must outbid other experienced collectors if they want to maintain ownership of their junk.

Johnny English And The Pink Panther

While it barely held a candle to Peter Sellers, I cannot deny that I enjoyed Steve Martin's portrayal of Inspector Jacques Clouseau in his Pink Panther reboot. I even more enjoyed Rowan Atkinson as a bumbling Bond-wannabe in the Johnny English movies. I imagine that having the clueless French detective and accident-prone British spy cross paths on a case would result in some real comedic dynamite (especially if real dynamite is involved).

Sister Act And The Nun

After watching Whoopi Goldberg's Academy Award-winning performance in Ghost, I am convinced that a sequel to Sister Act in which Deloris Wilson-Van Cartier must contend with the habit-wearing demon Valak (Bonnie Aarons) from the Conjuring movies would be a riot.

Big Brother And Survivor

Big Brother and Survivor are both competitive reality shows that make social interaction a key element to winning, with the biggest difference being the setting. If I ran CBS, I would send the most famous all-stars from Big Brother to a remote island, bring Survivor champs to the Big Brother house, and see what happens.

Using that knowledge when it comes to crafting a new chapter in a legacy franchise can also help, as that affinity can lead to some fantastic places. Jurassic Park superfan Scarlett Johansson certainly knows that, as her casting in the sixth sequel to that landmark blockbuster was a dream come true - and even executive producer Steven Spielberg knew it.

Ever the wise shepherd of cinema, and knowing the actress' love of his 1993 classic, Spielberg was reported to arrive at this conclusion, in this story from Edwards:

Even without her love for all things Jurassic, Johansson’s experience as an action lead throughout her Marvel movie arc have given her a formidable resume for stunt driven spectacle.

That thinking has already paid off in Jurassic World Rebirth’s trailer, as we’ve seen the Black Widow lead as a commanding presence with a dry sense of humor. As a fellow fan of these treks involving prehistoric creatures in the wild, I feel like I can say with authority that this is a definitive lead in the history of Jurassic stories.

Amping up the excitement of casting Scarlett Johansson as the lead of a Jurassic World sequel is the fact that it’s been written by Jurassic Park scribe David Koepp. I could imagine her dropping the script onto her table after reading the cover page with his name, still wondering how she got to this point.

I can also see Colin Jost sitting in the living room as she read Rebirth’s T-Rex rafting scene, being startled by Ms. Johansson gasping and half screaming “They did the raft scene!” At least, that’s what I’d probably do if I was in her situation; right down to apologizing to Mr. Jost for the potential good natured arm punches I'd deliver in celebration.

Which is why July 2nd’s release date for Jurassic World Rebirth is something that I’ve excitedly marked down on my own calendar. Especially because Rebirth’s 4DX preview has only sweetened the pot for me to count those days rather eagerly.

Scarlett Johansson is swapping spy gear for survival mode in the upcoming Jurassic World Rebirth, the latest entry in the dino-fueled franchise. The former Avenger is ditching the red ledger for raptors, and as it turns out, her journey from upcoming Marvel movies to Isla Nublar (well, metaphorically speaking) wasn’t just fate. The actress is set to tango with dinosaurs on the 2025 movie schedule, and we can kinda sorta thank her Marvel fanbase for that.

In a chat with Vanity Fair, Johansson admitted her childhood obsession with Jurassic Park ran deep, but it was the impact of Marvel fans, especially the little girls who idolized Black Widow, that pushed her to go after a role in the dino saga actively. She shared:

The "him" in question was Steven Spielberg. When the actress finally met the legendary director and producer, she wanted to keep things chill. Back in 2020, Scarlett Johansson got a sniff of her dino destiny but couldn’t grab it. While she was doing reshoots for Black Widow at Pinewood Studios in the UK, she found herself just a soundstage away from Jurassic World Dominion. She could hear the raptor screeches, but she wasn’t close enough to jump into the Jurassic Park franchise’s expansive universe.

But it wasn’t until a casual sit-down with Steven Spielberg, just a general meeting about future ideas, that she finally got to unleash her inner dinosaur nerd. She continued:

Roughly a month after chatting with Spielberg, Johansson had the script from David Koepp in her hands, and she wasn’t just reading it; she was workshopping it. She came in hot with character notes, not content to play another gun-for-hire.

Her character, Zora Bennett, started as a typical mercenary type, but with Scarlett’s input, she gained more depth and personality. This isn’t just another monster movie. The team behind Rebirth, featuring producer Frank Marshall and executive producer Steven Spielberg, is cranking up the tension. Sinners is the relatively rare springtime horror movie that critics can’t stop raving about, no doubt due it being written and directed by the Oscar-nominated talent Ryan Coogler, who reteamed with star Michael B. Jordan for the fifth time here. Despite his past films focusing on racial tension, boxing legacies, and Black superheroes, Coogler explained why it was a natural career move for him to jump into the horror sandbox, and how Steven Spielberg’s Jurassic Park was an influence.

Though moviegoing audiences might not necessarily slot Jurassic Park right alongside 1993’s more straightforward scary movies like Leprechaun or Night Terrors, Ryan Coogler does indeed hold the Michael Crichton adaptation high as an inspiration, but definitely isn’t ignoring the Jaws filmmaker’s other contributions. Speaking with Deadline about the myriad ideas that smashed together and crystalized into Sinners, he said:

Rewatching Jurassic Park all these years later is a reminder of just how sensory-heavy and harrowing many of the movie’s scenes were, despite coming across more as action set pieces given their scope and scale. After all, what is a T-Rex if not the largest and loudest slasher movie villain of all time?

Coogler continued, speaking to how the legitimate thrills and chills quickly turned Jurassic Park into a brand well beyond theater multiplexes:

It's no coincidence that Universal, the same studio that built a two-tiered franchise out of Jurassic Park, also developed the blockbuster into a theme park ride, arcade games, VR experiences and more. Or that it's the studio with the biggest investment in themed horror experiences, from the annual Halloween Horror Nights season to the impending arrival of Las Vegas' standalone park Universal Horror Unleashed. Hopefully we'll get to see Sinners represented through one or both of those attractions this year or next.

As far as other horror influences go, Ryan Coogler points to other classics from the 1970s, both in terms of films and the directors themselves. He addressed that both of his parents favored John Carpenter movies, but were on different sides of the aisle, His dad preferred the brutal realism of Halloween and Assault on Precinct 13, while his mom was more in touch with the mysterious cosmic horror of The Thing.

Coogler also named one of my very favorites, and easily one of the best horror movies of all time, despite not getting namechecked as often as others, Donald Sutherland and Julie Christie's grief-laden shocker Don't Look Now. In his words:

For a quick rundown of some other horror movies that Coogler named, both modern and classic, we have: The Faculty, From Dusk Till Dawn, Green Room, Rosemary's Baby and The Silence of the Lambs. Not a bad option in the bunch.

Horror fans should show up to watch Sinners in droves to prove there's money to be made in smart, quality horror, and it's currently in theaters everywhere.

Fans of Game of Thrones' favorite pets, as well as general fans of scientific advancement, were equally blown away this week when a biotech company announced the dire wolf had been back from extinction. While there are still a lot of questions to ask about whether or not the dire wolf has really been brought back, another question isn’t whether they could but whether they should?

In a perfectly timed post on X, the official Jurassic World account posted the Time magazine cover story regarding the return of the dire wolf and was in full support of the achievement. After all, when has bringing back extinct species ever gone wrong before?

There are many questions surrounding the dire wolf situation and how close these new animals actually are to the extinct dire wolf genetically. It appears they may really just be gray wolves that have been genetically modified to look like dire wolves, but then again, Jurassic Park dinosaurs also had frog DNA in them, so they weren’t perfectly like dinosaurs either. Maybe this is the beginning of a real Jurassic Park.

And at the end of the day, if the dire wolf looks and acts like the real thing, maybe that’s all that matters. As long as the creature appears the way we expect it to, then it might as well be the real thing. Nobody is going to ask for the genetic profile of a T. rex trying to eat their face.

In Game of Thrones the dire wolves were just portrayed by dogs. The actual animals have been extinct on earth for 10,000 years. Still, the show made them quite popular, so one can imagine a lot of fans excited by the idea of seeing them in real life.

It’s honestly perfect timing for the Jurassic World franchise, considering that a new movie, Jurassic World: Rebirth, is set to hit theaters this summer. This dire wolf experiment is certainly adjacent to the concepts in Jurassic Park and it shows how far actual science has come. While the idea of recreating dinosaurs is still a long way off, every day, it seems to become slightly less impossible.

As the science fiction becomes slightly less fictional the franchise has needed to the up the ante. In the case of Rebirth, it looks like the focus will be on creating bigger and badder dinosaurs for the human characters to go up against. If nothing else, it should make for an exciting part of the 2025 movie schedule.

Honestly, if science does start to creep closer and closer to recreating dinosaurs, maybe we should all be quite worried. It feels like exactly the sort of thing somebody might try to do if only to see if they can, and it’s difficult to imagine it going any other way than the way it did in the Jurassic Park and Jurassic World movies.

This year, there's plenty to look forward to when it comes to the Jurassic World saga. Coming up on the 2025 TV schedule is Chaos Theory Season 3, which arrives this weekend on Netflix, Also, Rebirth is set to hit theaters this summer and add to the Jurassic Park universe. But, as showrunner/EP Scott Kreamer will tell you, after 30 years, the franchise's first installment is still legit. As he promoted his show's upcoming season, Kreamer lovingly tipped his hat towards fellow producer and Jurassic legend Steven Spielberg.

It's evident that the Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous vet's work is mostly tied to the later films director/executive producer Colin Trevorrow oversaw. However, Kreamer also told The Parent Watch just how and why the 1993 picture is still a vital touchstone:

To be totally honest, both director Steven Spielberg and author/screenwriter Michael Crichton’s influence is most felt throughout the first two Jurassic Park movies. Everything from JPIII on has shades of those initial pictures. However, if you want to experience the purest essence of this science-based saga, you should look over those initial film installments.

However, even with that fact in mind, there is still a lot of homage and inspiration shown throughout the Jurassic World era. One of the most heartbreaking moments came in Fallen Kingdom’s tragic Brachiosaur death scene, which saw the first dinosaur we ever saw on Isla Nublar become the last.

Chaos Theory has that same sort of energy, though it mostly places that focus within the trilogy it takes its name from. It's a sort of crossroads that actually helped boost a legacy character, who returned in 2022's Jurassic World Dominion.

Scott Kreamer and the Jurassic World animation team have only made more sense of the presence of returning BioSyn CEO Lewis Dodgson. While resurrected in Domination by Campbell Scott, the character didn’t really see much action in the trilogy overall - coming in at the end as a sort of big bad. Thanks to Soyona "The Broker" Santos (Dichen Lachman) coming into the fold during Chaos Theory Season 2, the addition of Biosyn also feels like a logical step in the right direction.

Like so many others, I'm ready for this new season of the animated spinoff. It's my hope that ties between past and present, especially given Chaos Theory Season 2’s shocking character reveal. At first glance, the trailer for Season 3 suggest that those connections will be strengthened:

Scott Kreamer’s efforts to widen the Jurassic World have not been in vain, and Chaos Theory is a strong building block. So it's probably a good idea, amidst the chaos and revelations to come, to keep your eyes peeled for any classic references or hidden gems that remind us of that day when dinosaurs first roamed the earth...again.

Video games and movies have always had a close relationship. It’s perfectly normal nowadays to see a movie based on a hit video game, and some of those movies are even good. Years ago, it was much more likely to see a video game based on a hit movie, and those games were almost always bad. Although, the game based on The Lost World: Jurassic Park had one hell of an ending.

The game for the original PlayStation based on The Lost World: Jurassic Park isn’t a particularly great game. Frankly, it's not exactly based on one of the best Jurassic Park movies to begin with, though it's far from the worst movie tie-in game ever made. It does, however, have one of the most iconic endings in the history of the medium. A post containing the entire ending was recently put on Instagram, and it has continued to blow up, as more people discover a video of Jeff Goldblum congratulating them for beating the game, then telling them to turn off the machine and go outside. Check it out.

I have to say, if I spent hours of my life beating a video game, only to have a celebrity come on the screen and basically tell me I just wasted all my time and I should touch grass, I’d probably be upset. I certainly was when my parents said it. But somehow, when Jeff Goldblum does it, it doesn’t feel that bad.

I don’t even remember when I first saw this video. I don’t think I ever actually beat The Lost World game myself, but maybe I had a friend who did. Still, for the era of the original PlayStation, this is actually a great video game ending. Getting a real video of one of the actors from the franchise, who looks like he filmed it during a break on the set, is the sort of thing that couldn’t have happened in previous console games.

Today, video game tie-ins to big movies are a fairly rare occurrence. While they sometimes succeeded in selling well off of name recognition alone, they were frequently terrible due to often-shorted production windows and a frequent relief that since they had the name recognition, money simply didn’t need to be spent.

While a handful of games based on Jurassic World have come out over the years since the rebooted franchise launched, there was never a direct tie-in game that was based on the plot of any of the films. It makes me want to get a game based on the upcoming Jurassic World: Rebirth where Scarlett Johansson or Mahershala Ali tell me to go outside. That alone would be worth playing through it.

There are a lot of bad companies in the world of film and TV, companies that would be brutal work for like Inotech in Office Space. Those are hardly the only ones. Imagine having to show up to work every morning for Lumon in Severance. Or even a place that might seem like fun like Dunder Mifflin in The Office, would really be awful. Here is our list of companies that would be terrible to work for from TV shows and in movies.

Inotech (Office Space)

Bill Lumberg (Gary Cole) from Inotech in Office Space would be just a terrible boss to work for. The worst part is that he was just one of the many bosses working for the company. It's no wonder everyone was so miserable that everyone had their idea on how to get out of the rat race, from embezzling money to burning the place to the ground.

InGen (Jurassic Park)

Sure, on the surface InGen in Jurassic Park would be an amazing place to work. It's on a tropical island, there seem to be great benefits, and if you're a scientist, it's cutting edge work. Of course, then you have to consider the dinosaurs. Life will find a way and when it does, you're going be in a lot of trouble.

Nakatomi Trading (Die Hard)

Let's be honest, just having to work with a guy like Ellis (Hart Bochner) would be bad enough. Adding in an attack by a bunch of psycho thieves at the Christmas party and well, yeah, it would be pretty awful working for Nakatomi Trading in Die Hard.

The Dharma Initiative (Lost)

It's pretty hard to decide what the worst job would be if you were a part of the The Dharma Initiative in Lost. Desmond being stuck in the hatch typing in the numbers ever few hours has to be close to the top of the list. It's also very cult-like and for anyone who has worked for a company like that, they know just how weird it can be.

Omni Consumer Products (RoboCop)

Omni Consumer Products in RoboCop does some terrible stuff. It's basically a company, led by an egomaniac, that has absolutely no moral compass. Sure, it's a pretty dystopian situation in the world of RoboCop, but that's no excuse, you need to do better than work for an awful company like Omni.

Kruger Industrial Smoothing (Seinfeld)

George (Jason Alexander) in Seinfeld had a few bad jobs on the show. When working for the Yankees is the best job, you know the rest have to be bad. Kruger Industrial Smoothing has to be the worst though. Mr. Kruger is a guy who just doesn't seem to care about anything at all, and what in the world is "industrial smoothing"? Christmas at Kruger Industrial Smoothing seems especially annoying.

Pierpoint & Co. (Industry)

The British hit Industry shows all the worst sides of investment banking. One of the worst aspects of working in that industry is the cut-throat competition that all bankers deal with, especially at Pierpoint & Co o the show. Some may thrive, but most people would hate it.

Weyland-Yutani Corporation (Alien)

Weyland-Yutani Corporation from the Alien franchise is one of the most morally bankrupt companies on this list, and that is really saying something. Over and over it is clear that the powers that be don't care one bit for the health and safety of their employees. Over and over, those employees wind up dead. You'd think someone would blow the whistle, but all these years later, Weyland-Yutani is still at it.

Dunder Mifflin (The Office)

Everyone loves The Office and we all love laughing along with all the whacky stuff that goes on every day at Dunder Mifflin. But think about it, how awful would you feel if you had to deal with Michael Scott (Steve Carell) every day of your life. IT wouldn't take long before you lost it on him, right? It's easy to understand why Jim (John Krasinski) is so miserable all the time.

Wernham Hogg (The Office - UK)

Perhaps the only place worse to work in a sitcom world than Dunder Miflin would be Wernham Hogg in the British version of The Office. Michael Scott is terrible, but David Brent (Ricky Gervais) is mean-spirited and just plain nasty sometimes, in addition to being a total idiot. How anyone ever works for Brent is really hard to understand.

Lumon (Severance)

This list has a lot of sketchy, miserable companies on it, but Lumon from Severance probably takes the cake for the worst. It has everything that makes everyone else terrible all wrapped up into one. Menial tasks with little reward, shady technology, psychopathic leadership, a cult-like atmosphere... the list goes on and on.

The Wonka Chocolate Factory (Willy Wonka And The Chocolate Factory)

Working at a candy company might sound like a dream for many people, until you learn that all of your co-workers are weird orange beings that are liable to burst into song at the drop of a hat. Add on to that a wildly narcissistic CEO who is completely unpredictable and throws up little tests all the time to test your loyalty and it's safe to say you'd want no part of working for Willy Wonka.

Miller/Gold Talent Agency (Entourage)

Nobody wants to work for a boss whose base level is "yell as much as I can at everyone." It might be a great place to get ahead in a tough entertainment industry, but working for Ari Gold (Jeremy Piven) on Entourage would be completely soul-sucking, right? Right.

Tyrell Corporation (Blade Runner)

Anyone working in a giant building that looks like a cross between an Imperial ship from Star Wars and a mid-century brutalist building in Germany should know exactly what kind of company they are working for, right? Building and designing replicants, who are basically enslaved techo-humans, seals the deal. You don't want to work here.

The Springfield Nuclear Power Plant (The Simpsons)

Being a low-level drone in Sector 7-G at a nuclear power plant would be a pretty miserable existence. It seems to work for Homer Simpson, and he's never permanently lost his gig, no matter what he does, but let's be honest, Homer is an idiot. Anyone of even normal intelligence would be out there in a hurry.

Bluth Company (Arrested Development)

A family filled with morons running a company mired in controversy and corruption like the Bluth Company in Arrested Development sounds pretty awful on its face alone. When you get in there, you'd realize that the one family member who is trying to make it work can't control anyone else in his family. Even working for the Banana Stand would be better than going into the office every day at Bluth.

Spacely's Sprokets (The Jetsons)

Even back in the 1960s no one wanted to work for a giant corporation like Spacely's Sprokets. Not only do they not make a real product (sprockets?) but Mr. Spacely is the worst kind of CEO, the kind that rules with fear and intimidation. That's no way to run a company no matter what year it is. We should all have flying cars by now though.

Umbrella (Resident Evil)

As the name of the show implies, Umbrella, the over-arching company in charge of seemingly everything in the world of Resident Evil is, well, evil. The list of things it does that are pure evil is far too long to list in one place, but it's safe to say that you could never truly feel good about your job here.

BiffCo (Back To The Future 2)

The future looks pretty bleak if Biff is in charge. After stealing the time machine and the Sports Almanac, Biff rakes up so much money that he can pretty much do whatever he wants. No one should have to work for a boss like Biff or a company like BiffCo. Who names a company "BiffCo" anyway? Beware the man who builds monuments to himself.

J. Peterman Company (Seinfeld)

The J. Peterman Company on Seinfeld doesn't seem like the worst place to work. it's a trendy catalog, and there is cake in the break room all the time. The serious drawback is working for an egomaniac like Peterman himself. It would be impossible to take orders from a guy like that.

Happy-Go-Lucky Toy Factory (Family Guy)

It would take about ten seconds to sour on a CEO like Jonathan Weed, owner of the Happy-Go-Lucky Toy Factory on Family Guy. His smug, pretentious behavior would get old quickly and there aren't enough toys in the world to make going to work for a guy like that every day worth it. Peter got lucky when Mr. Weed died and the whole factory was torn down.

Sunshine Taxi Company (Taxi)

Two words, Louie De Palma. Or is that three? Either way working for Danny DeVito's character on Taxi would be miserable. There are some appeals to driving a cab. You can make your own hours, and you can be alone with your thoughts a lot, but then you remember you have to return to the garage and put up with that jerk. No thanks.

Veridian Dynamics (Better Off Ted)

Senior vice-president of the Research and Development department at Veridian Dynamics sounds like a pretty sweet gig for Ted on Better Off Ted and for the most part, the day-to-day isn't bad at Veridian. The problem is that it is the definition of a soul-sucking multinational conglomerate and it takes a real toll over the long term when you realize you are a completely replaceable cog in a giant machine.

E Corp (Mr. Robot)

A company like E Corp - what kind of name is that anyway? - would make anyone want to be a bad hat hacker working to bring the whole place down. They prey on the most vulnerable and have no morals or ethics whatsoever. This is easily one of the worst companies in television history

Hooli - (Silicon Valley)

It's pretty easy to understand why anyone worth their salt would want to ditch Hooli and strike out on their own. Anyone would have been in the same kind of position with a company like Hooli, knows what it's like to watch others benefit from your good ideas and hard work. Pied Piper is chaotic, but it's theirs.

Zorg Industries (The Fifth Element)

Gary Oldman is brilliant as Zorg, the leader of Zorg Industries on The Fifth Element. The character is completely unhinged and that is not the kind of person anyone wants to work for, setting aside how awful the company itself is. It's simply a company with way too much power.

ENCOM (Tron)

On its surface ENCOM seems like a pretty standard technology company that could do a lot of good for the world. Then you realize it's being run by a total megalomanic. Ed Dillinger cheated his way to the top, and holds onto his power in a ruthless and morally bankrupt way. He's despicable.

MomCorp (Futurama)

Planet Express in Futurama may have it's own set of issues, but working for its rival, MomCorp and dealing with Mom would be way, way worse. At least Planet Express feels like a family. Sometimes, anyway.

Soylent Corporation (Soylent Green)

There is nothing worse on this list than people serving people to other people and Soylent Green is people! That's really all that needs to be said. It's not the only terrible thing that the Soylent Corporation does, it's just the worst thing in the world.

LexCorp (Superman)

It's good to have a hard and fast rule that working for a supervillain like Lex Luther is never a good idea. LexCorp does so many evil things it's hard to know exactly where to start when it comes to reasons why no one should work for a company like that. The worst thing might be that Superman, of all people, could show up and end everything you're doing in a hurry.

Buy N Large Corporation (WALL-E)

The Buy N Large Corporation might have started as an innocent yogurt company but it grew into something far too large, with far too much influence and power. Like other companies on this list, it's just too good for anyone's own good.

Oscorp (Spider-Man)

Oscorp wasn't started by one supervillain, it was started by two! Yeah, there's no way anything you could do at that company would be for the good of anyone except the two evil geniuses that run it. Easy pass.

When it comes to 2025 movies, there’s a lot to be excited about, especially on the upcoming A24 movies front, in my opinion. One movie that’s starting to inch closer to the top of my list right now is Death of the Unicorn’s release date, especially after its new trailer (which you can watch above) totally and oddly reminds me of an all-time great popcorn movie: Jurassic Park.

Now, Death of the Unicorn is not a Jurassic Park movie – and in fact, we’re getting one of those in the form of this summer’s release of Jurassic World Rebirth. Actually, Death of the Unicorn was one of the few independent films that filmed during the actor’s strikes. However, the new trailer does remind me of what makes the original 1993 movie great. It’s exploring the idea of a legendary creature, and how we humans would find a way to absolutely wreck its existence if we could get the hold of it.

As the trailer teases, Paul Rudd’s Elliot and Jenna Ortega’s Ridley (who play father and daughter) will accidentally kill a unicorn while driving to a summit for Eliot’s work. Following the unicorn being found, the Leopold family, whom Eliot works for, will jump right to using their riches to exploit the unicorn and find more like it.

As legend has it, unicorns have incredible healing properties, so they think they are doing a good thing by hunting unicorns and using their components to save humankind. However, they will find a killer unicorn somewhere during the movie that will hunt them down (and perhaps get revenge) for playing around with natural forces they don’t understand.

I absolutely love movies that explore ideas about humankind and how twisted we can be. Not only do a lot of concepts explored in the trailer remind me of Jurassic Park, some of the specific sequences do too. When Rudd’s character is hiding behind cars to avert the deadly unicorn (or whatever monster that is), or when it breathes on Jenna Ortega’s character, it reminds me of the kitchen scene when the raptor is right next to the kids. Of course, that scene also feels like a clear reference to Alien. Oh, and her name is Ripley, so duh!

As soon as I heard one of the Leopolds declare that it is their “moral imperative to harvest every last one,” I only got more excited for Death Of A Unicorn as well. Between this trailer and the one that came out two months ago on YouTube, I can tell the movie is full of quirky humor and may go to some fun and twisted places. Honestly, I might be more excited for this movie, coming out March 28, than the new Jurassic World entry on originality alone.

Digital visual effects have been an integral part of the filmmaking process for decades but their increased use over the years has had some moviegoers convinced that Hollywood is far too reliant on creating worlds with a computer. Well, allow us to prove to you that practical effects do still exist by highlighting some modern classics that have honored the old-fashioned ways of creating movie magic.

The Substance (2024)

As an eye-opening behind-the-scenes featurette for The Substance proves, director Coralie Fargeat went to great lengths to use as little CGI as possible to realize her vision for the film, which received five 2025 Academy Award nominations, including Best Makeup. Some of the most bizarre and disgusting shots of this intense body horror spectacle were captured on camera with shockingly realistic doubles for body parts, such as when Elisabeth Sparkle (Demi Moore) births her double, Sue (Margaret Qualley), out of her back.

Mission: Impossible - Fallout (2018)

One of the most appealing aspects of the Mission: Impossible movies is their intense action sequences, achieved with little to no digital enhancement. Arguably, the franchise's most unbelievable practical stunt comes from Mission: Impossible - Fallout. Tom Cruise trained for weeks to perform a HALO jump out of a plane from 25,000 feet above the ground for a sequence that only required CGI to create the storm raging around Ethan Hunt as he descends.

Jurassic Park (1993)

While considered a revolutionary moment for CGI in movies with its timeless dinosaur creations, the first installment of the Jurassic Park movies also uses practical effects in very impressive ways. While the animatronic velociraptors are among the most famous examples, according to special effects designer Michael Lantieri in a video by Great Big Story, one of the most difficult effects was creating ripples in a cup of water to signal the T. Rex's approach, which was achieved by plucking a guitar string placed underneath the cup.

Inception (2010)

Some of the more surreal moments from Christopher Nolan's dream-exploring adventure Inception obviously could not have existed without CGI. However, as demonstrated in a behind-the-scenes DVD featurette, the scene when Arthur (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) engages in a brawl in a hotel that is literally spinning was achieved by rotating a hallway set on an axis and, for shots in zero-gravity, building a vertical hallway set and suspending the actors on wires.

The Shape Of Water (2017)

Guillermo del Toro's Oscar-winning romantic fantasy The Shape of Water begins with an opening credits sequence taking place in a fully submerged building filled with floating furniture. According to THR, the surrounding water was added digitally but the scene was still primarily achieved practically by having puppeteers control the movements of the suspended props.

Spider-Man (2002)

Sam Raimi, creator of the Evil Dead movies, became an inspirational indie film hero with the use of clever, homemade practical effects in the original horror classic and would maintain that sensibility when he helmed one of the best superhero movies, Spider-Man. For instance, as a DVD commentary reveals, the scene when Peter Parker (Tobey Maguire) catches Mary-Jane (Kirsten Dunst) and her falling lunch on her tray was captured for real after 156 takes, with some help from an adhesive that kept the tray steadily attached to Maguire's hand.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015)

The design of BB-8 is so unique that it seems it could only be achieved in a galaxy far, far away but, according to the official Star Wars website, he was filmed practically here on Earth. The rolling droid was constructed for Star Wars: The Force Awakens with magnets and gyroscopes that allowed his head to remain attached as he rolled through the sand.

Apollo 13 (1995)

The zero-gravity sequences from the classic space movie, Apollo 13, are so realistic, it almost seems like director Ron Howard and co. would have had to leave Earth to shoot them. Actually, according to AV Club, they only had to travel about 36,000 feet above ground by building the set in a NASA training craft called the KC-135 (nicknamed the "vomit comet") which authentically creates the feeling of weightlessness by taking gravity-countering dives.

Oppenheimer (2023)

Christopher Nolan said that there were "zero CGI shots" in his Best Picture Oscar winner, Oppenheimer, which dramatizes the development of the atomic bomb. To clarify, as reported in Variety, CGI was used in some instances to improve a visual but not a single shot was entirely created with a computer, including the Trinity Test, which was filmed practically using miniatures that were blown up by the crew.

Mad Max Fury Road (2015)

CGI is primarily used in George Miller's exhilarating post-apocalyptic thriller, Mad Max: Fury Road, to improve certain visuals and remove equipment from the frame. However, as a behind-the-scenes feature found on the Blu-ray reveals, just about every wild, death-defying stunt that takes place in this post-apocalyptic action movie masterpiece was performed on camera and on location, such as the pole-vaulting stunts. Bonus fun fact: the Doof Warrior's guitar was an actual working flame-thrower.

Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind (2004)

Director Michel Gondry's Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is a film that does not fit neatly into any genre, thanks to its mind-bending fantasy visuals, many of which were achieved practically. For instance, as mentioned in an article from Focus Features' official site, the scene when Joel (Jim Carrey) and Clementine (Kate Winslet) appear to change size while walking around a set is achieved with a distortion chamber, which uses forced perspective to create the illusion that two people on opposite sides of a room are wildly different sizes.

Interstellar (2014)

The one scene from Christopher Nolan's breathtaking space epic, Interstellar, that, most surprisingly, is predominantly shot with practical effects sees Cooper (Matthew McConaughey) in a tesseract that allows him to literally interact with time itself. IndieWire reports that the sequence was achieved by projecting animated images onto thin strands of fabric that surrounded the fully built, life-size set which the actor was suspended inside.

Everything Everywhere All At Once (2022)

Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert created a fantastic world (or, more accurately, worlds) for their Oscar-winning, beloved A24 movie, Everything Everywhere All At Once, with a unique combination of CGI and practical effects and the help of a five-person VFX team. As they explain in a video for Wired, the first time Evelyn (Michelle Yeoh) makes an interdimensional jump was done practically by shooting the actor being dragged to another corner of the office building in slow motion.

Lord Of The Rings: The Fellowship Of The Ring (2001)

Peter Jackson and Co. easily could have used digital effects to make Elijah Wood's Frodo and other Hobbit characters appear much smaller than Gandalf (Sir Ian McKellan) in the Lord of the Rings movies. Instead, according to Wired, they went the old-fashioned route and used the simple act of forced perspective by placing actors further back in the frame to make them look smaller than the actor placed closer to the camera.

Grindhouse (2007)

Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino teamed up for a double feature that paid tribute to exploitative B-grade flicks of the '60 and '70s but only one of them really stayed true to the era's filmmaking principles. Rodriguez's Planet Terror relies heavily on CGI to create its grotesque world while Tarantino's Death Proof (according to Hagerty) is lauded for adding little to no digital enhancement to its crazy stunts, especially when Zoe Bell hangs on the hood of a car while being chased by Kurt Russell's Stuntman Mike.

The Dark Knight Rises (2012)

All three of Christopher Nolan's live-action Batman movies provide proof of his championing for capturing as many mind-blowing sequences on camera as possible, especially in The Dark Knight Rises. As a Business Insider feature details, the opening sequence, in which Bane (Tom Hardy) hijacks a CIA plane, was performed for real after obtaining permission to drop part of the plane from a helicopter over Scottish land.

1917 (2019)

One might assume that to create the illusion of being filmed in mostly one take, Sam Mendes' 1917 used a great deal of CGI to hide the seams. Truthfully, there were some Oscar-winning digital effects used in some key moments, such as the plane crash sequence, but, as detailed by The New York Times, the explosions from the climactic scene in which Schofield (George MacKay) runs across a field bombarded with bombs were authentic.

Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991)

In addition to its breathtaking stunts, such as in the iconic canal scene, one of the most impressive practical effects from Terminator 2: Judgment Day takes place in the director's cut when Sarah (Linda Hamilton) and John Connor (Edward Furlong) remove the T-800's (Arnold Schwarzenegger) chip from his head in front of a mirror. A video by Insider explains that in order to avoid the camera showing up in the mirror's reflection, the scene was instead shot in front of a window with a recreation of the set on the other side and Hamilton's twin sister, Leslie, mimicking her actions.

It (2017)

For his 2017 adaptation of Stephen King's It, director Andy Muschietti was initially planning on using CGI to give Pennywise a lazy eye to make the demonic clown even creepier. However, according to an exclusive interview with Entertainment Tonight, he discovered he did not need to use digital effects because Pennywise actor Bill Skarsgård can move his eye individually – a fact that It: Chapter Two star Bill Hader was frightened to learn on set, as he revealed on Conan.

Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban (2004)

Most of the magic from the Harry Potter movies is, obviously, brought to life with digital effects but there is one memorable, fantastic scene from the third installment, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, that was created on camera. A feature by ScreenRant explains that, for the scene in which Harry (Danielle Radcliffe) accidentally casts a spell that causes his Aunt Marge to blow up like a balloon, actor Pam Ferris wore a special suit and facial makeup prosthetics that could actually inflate.

Spider-Man 2 (2004)

Awarding the Oscar for Best Visual Effects to Spider-Man 2 was a no-brainer based on how realistic Doctor Octopus' mechanical arms look alone. As explained in a DVD bonus feature, CGI was used for most scenes involving Doc Ock's evil appendages but many of their movements were achieved with rigorous puppeteering which actor Alfred Molina was also heavily involved in.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice (2024)

Michael Keaton said that it was important to him and director Tim Burton that the long-awaited Beetlejuice sequel, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, use as many practical effects as possible. EW mentions that, just like in the 1988 original, sandworms were created with stop-motion animation for a scene when Lydia Deetz (Winona Ryder) and her daughter, Astrid (Jenna Ortega) find themselves on one of Saturn's moons.

The Tragedy of Macbeth (2021)

For Joel Coen's solo directorial debut, The Tragedy of Macbeth, the filmmaker wanted to give the adaptation of William Shakespeare's influential play a distinct look reminiscent of a theater stage. To create this aura, as seen on a featurette posted to YouTube by Apple TV+, life-size sets were built on a soundstage at the Warner lot and surrounded by matte paintings to fill in the backgrounds.

Midsommar (2019)

The secret to the visceral nature of the nightmares Ari Aster brings to life in his second great A24 horror film, Midsommar, is the use of practical effects, such as in the scene when an elderly villager has his face fatally smashed in after surviving a cliff jump. According to Vulture, the gruesome moment was filmed practically with a fake head equipped with pneumatic cylinders that could collapse and reset with the push of a button, allowing for multiple takes with the same prop.

Skyfall (2012)

What makes Daniel Craig's James Bond movies so memorable is the realism of their action sequences, such as the opening scene of Skyfall. A feature about the train fight from SlashFilm details just how challenging it was for director Sam Mendes and co. to shoot the scene on top of a real moving train.

Independence Day (1996)

The visual effects of the classic alien invasion movie, Independence Day, took home a well-deserved Oscar — not just for its convincing CGI but also for its more old-fashioned tricks. For instance, an article from the Director's Guild of America website explains that the destruction of recognizable landmarks like The White House and the Empire State Building was achieved with miniatures.

Tenet (2020)

Christopher Nolan goes above and beyond to create the most realistic and explosive action sequences possible, such as purchasing a real, full-size Boeing 747 only to destroy it. According to ScreenRant, that is how he shot the plane crash scene from Tenet.

Top Gun: Maverick (2022)

Enough time has passed since the 1986 original that Tom Cruise and Co. could have achieved aerial action sequences in Top Gun: Maverick on sound stages and with green screens. Instead, as detailed by IGN, the actors trained for months to actually go up in the air in military-grade jets equipped with cameras for the most realistic shots possible.

First Man (2018)

According to Digital Trends, First Man director Damien Chazelle wanted to shoot Neil Armstrong's (Ryan Gosling) moonwalk without green screens but in a place that could later be slightly augmented in post-production. They chose to shoot the sequence at an Atlanta quarry and some of the only digital trickery involved was to remove elements the filmmakers did not want to be reflected in the actors' astronaut helmet visors.

Mary Poppins Returns (2018)

Emily Blunt made magic with her wonderful portrayal of the iconic, titular nanny in Mary Poppins Returns but that was not the only stellar trick the production pulled. For instance, as a special featurette shared on YouTube by Rotten Tomatoes reveals, the scene in which Mary and the children enter a magical realm through their bathtub was achieved with a slide built underneath the tub that was cleverly concealed with a thick layer of soap bubbles.

The French Dispatch (2021)

Wes Anderson movies like The French Dispatch exist in a world that could only come from the filmmaker's vast imagination. So, how are these striking, surreal images brought to life on camera? A video by Piercefilm Productions reveals some of the drama's most memorable visuals are created with a combination of miniatures and painted backgrounds.

Though I wasn’t the biggest fan of the last few films set in the Jurassic Park universe, I am pretty pumped up for Gareth Evans’ Jurassic World Rebirth, which is set to hit the 2025 movie schedule this summer. The upcoming sci-fi film, which sounds like a throwback to the early days of the franchise, has been one of my most anticipated movies for a while now, and that was before I heard what returning screenwriter David Koepp has said about the dinosaur adventure using an unused sequence from the Jurassic Park novel.

Koepp, who co-wrote the 1993-defining megahit with the late Michael Crichton -- as well as The Lost World: Jurassic Park four years later -- hasn’t revealed which scene will be used in Rebirth, but I have a handful of guesses for what it might be. That said, here are six sequences I would love to see go from the book to the silver screen…

The T-Rex River Chase

There are a lot of differences between the novel and movie when it comes to Jurassic Park, and one of the biggest omissions from Steven Spielberg’s iconic ‘90s sci-fi film is the river raft sequence. This exhilarating series of events follows Dr. Grant, as well as Tim and Lexi (whose ages are flipped in the original novel) as they try to return to the Visitor Center by using the park’s vast river system.

What starts out as a lazy float along the river quickly turns into one of the most intense, terrifying, and action-packed parts of Michael Crichton’s book and leads to the trio being chased by the T-Rex from earlier in the story, only this time, it’s swimming after them. I’m not sure why it didn’t make the cut in the original film, but maybe it'll find a way in this time around. But it isn’t the only scene…

The Poisoned Eggs Sequence

Another one of my favorite parts of the Jurassic Park book is the scene where Dr. Grant kills a trio of raptors with the help of syringes filled with poison, unhatched eggs, and some quick thinking. Grant remembers that dinosaurs like the raptors would snatch eggs for food, so he poisons some of the eggs and rolls them towards the pack, knowing they can’t resist an easy meal.

While the plan is somewhat successful for a couple of the raptors, Grant has to get in close for the final dinosaur and sticks the syringe directly into its tail, which results in the apex predator suffering a long and painful death. Reading the book way back when, this scene was terrifying, exhilarating, and fascinating. I don’t know how it’d work into the Jurassic World Rebirth story, but a scene with poisoned eggs would be so much fun to watch.

The Aviary Sequence

I know, I know, the aviary sequence was kind of used in Jurassic Park III, but that doesn’t mean I don’t want to see a more faithful adaptation of the iconic scene find its way into Jurassic World Rebirth. While on their journey back to the more developed portions of the park in Crichton’s novel, Dr. Grant and the kids go through the aviary where they encounter a flock of cearadactylus.

Everything about this sequence is great and could work really well in the new movie. The way John Arnold and John Hammond build the tension by talking about the dangers of the area, the first sight of flying dinosaurs, and Lexi being attacked before Dr. Grant saves the day are some of my most vivid memories from reading the book, and something that could work really well if fully realized.

The Raptor Nest

Another great scene from the Jurassic Park book that was largely cut out of the original movie was the moment when Dr. Grant goes into the raptor nest to see if the dinosaurs were in fact reproducing without the help of the InGen scientists. Yeah, there was a reference to it in the movie when Grant finds the hatched eggs in the park, but this book sequence is the stuff of nightmares.

Crawling into a vast cavern, Grant and other survivors find raptors of all ages and sizes in various breeding sites, proving the animals were reproducing, making the official count of the number of raptors on the island (and beyond) painfully inaccurate. It’s one of the most horrifying and unsettling scenes from the book, and something that could be great in the next film, especially with the Rebirth subtitle.

Raptors On The Boat

The whole “dinos on a boat” premise showed up in The Lost World: Jurassic Park, but we could really use a proper callback to the scene in the Jurassic Park novel where young raptors are spotted escaping the island on a boat headed to the mainland. Though the situation is largely taken care of, the description of the silhouetted dinosaurs standing atop the deck is something that has long left me fascinated and intrigued.

Yeah, it’s a short scene, but if it was used in Jurassic World Rebirth, with its story about dinosaurs living in remote tropical regions around the world, it could explain how the creatures got from place to place.

Compys In The Crib

I’m sure we would have seen a version of this scene if James Cameron’s Jurassic Park had been made (we had to settle for a toned-down take in The Lost World), but it would be wild to see Gareth Evans recreate the nursery sequence involving a pack of compsognathus (aka the compys, the little green carnivorous dinosaurs) from the opening of the book. Do I think it’s going to happen? No, not really. But it would be one hell of a way to kick off the movie.

For those who haven’t read the book, the scene involves a woman walking into a nursery to find a pack of small yet lethal dinosaurs eating a newborn, and it’s described in great detail. An unsettling and horrifying way of setting the tone for the book (seriously, there’s so much gore), this is one of the scenes that’s been burned into my memory for years.

I’m all but certain that the river raft scene will be the long-lost Jurassic Park sequence that will show up in Jurassic World Rebirth, but I’ll just have to wait and see when the highly-anticipated summer blockbuster opens in theater on July 2nd.

The Jurassic Park universe has always been synonymous with cinematic spectacle, transporting audiences to a world where dinosaurs once again roam the Earth. Now, the upcoming Jurassic World Rebirth is set to hit the 2025 movie schedule coming, and a familiar creative voice is stepping back into the fold. The film’s writer, returning series legacy talent David Koepp, recently opened up about rejoining the franchise. He not only shared his excitement for this new chapter but also teased a moment hardcore fans, of which I am one, will love.

During a recent interview with Variety, David Koepp, who penned the scripts for the first two Jurassic Park films, shared that the idea for Rebirth started with a conversation with collaborator Steven Spielberg. Koepp explained to the trade just how the casual brainstorming session between the two soon turned into a full-fledged project:

Though the pressure of revisiting a beloved franchise is undeniable—“it’s going to cost a lot of money, and there are going to be big expectations,” Koepp admitted—the initial development process was free of constraints, focused purely on creativity.

What will surely have fans buzzing, however, is David Koepp's confirmation that Rebirth will have a very specific (and cool) link to Michael Crichton’s first Jurassic Park novel. The Stir of Echoes penner added while talking about how he prepared to craft this story:

While David Koepp didn’t reveal which scene from Michael Crichton’s original novel will finally roar to life on screen, fans of the books know there’s no shortage of thrilling moments that never made the cut in the OG flicks. For my money, one of the most iconic sequences that deserves its time in the cinematic spotlight is the river raft scene with Alan Grant and the kids.

In this nail-biting chapter, the trio navigates downriver in a small raft, desperately trying to evade the relentless dinos and make their way to safety. The tension ramps up when they spot the T. rex lurking on the riverbank, stalking them. When you think they’re in the clear, the beast plunges into the river and begins swimming after them, adding a new layer of primal terror.

Now, it’s unlikely Alan, Lex, or Tim will be making a return for the sequel to one of the best sci-fi movies—besides, they’re more than 30 years older now and the scene wouldn't quite deliver the same kind of punch. But I could see this scene reimagined for the new film, with fresh characters taking on the perilous journey. It’d be a sequence that would combine everything fans love about Jurassic Park: heart-stopping action, edge-of-your-seat tension, and the ever-present reminder that humans are way out of their depth in the dinosaur kingdom. Here’s hoping this long-lost moment finally makes the leap from page to screen.

It may be cold, but Pac always looks cool.

The outfit was so iconic that Adele herself wore it while crooning to Streep at one of her Vegas shows.

The Wonders' Matching Suits From That Thing You Do!

"You guys look great in red, have I told you that?" It's the go-to compliment from The Wonders' band manager Mr. White (played by Tom Hanks, who also wrote and directed the movie) in the 1996 musical comedy That Thing You Do! And honestly, he's right: the matching suits he makes bandmates Jimmy (Johnathon Schaech), Lenny (Steve Zahn), Guy (Tom Everett Scott) and the bass player (Ethan Embry) wear on tour do look great, especially when finished off with some cool sunnies for "Shades" to wear.

Dickie's Italian Wardrobe From The Talented Mr. Ripley

It would be near-impossible to make film heartthrob Jude Law ever look bad, but the classic Riviera-chic stylings that the actor wears as Dickie Greenleaf in The Talented Mr. Ripley —think striped polo, breezy white trousers, boat-ready loafers and stretches of tanned skin — arguably might be the best he's ever looked onscreen.

At this point in the 2025 movie schedule, we should be getting a trailer for Jurassic World Rebirth any day now. While we don’t know exactly when that sweet first footage will be arriving, there have been some promising photos that tease just what this next chapter of the Jurassic Park Universe will entail.

So allow me to help ease our collective eagerness through picking a part a new image showing Scarlett Johansson and Jonathan Bailey could mean a lot for their potentially dangerous mission. Freshly released to social media, the latest Rebirth snapshot is still sadly dinosaur free.

Unless you count the dinosaur egg being examined by the Wicked star, in which case there’s one creature in the picture. Before I go too far into the long grass, pay close attention to the surroundings shown in the Jurassic World Rebirth image in question:

Looking past the nest and the egg in Jonathan Bailey’s hand, I think the background of this photo suggests a pretty huge development I’ve previously theorized about. Thanks to previous Jurassic World 4 rumors, I made a guess that another location in the Las Cinco Muertes island chain, and I think this picture backs that claim even further. Not to mention, if you buy all the whispers that the Spinosaurus might actually be in the picture, you'd need a location in easy swimming distance.

That already makes sense, as what we know about This Jurassic World 4 teaches us that tropical climates are where dinosaurs can best roam the earth. Pair that with David Koepp’s Jurassic franchise rules, as well as how he helped integrate the Muertes Archipelago into The Lost World: Jurassic Park, the stage is pretty set.

But the cherry on top of all of this talk has to be material found in the Dinosaur Protection Group’s viral marketing lore for Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. Surprise surprise, that special interest group unveiled the fact that InGen/Masrani Global had leased the islands for 99 years. So even if you question whether or not the Jurassic World Evolution games are actually canon, this possibility still has wings.

There's nothing like corporate red tape to help conceal Jurassic World Rebirth's "sinister, shocking discovery that’s been hidden from the world for decades.” With that point made, I'll admit that not even I know where Jurassic World Rebirth is heading in its march to theaters on July 2.

I'll certainly be glad to adjust my theories according to whatever happens next, which partially depends on when we see our first footage from Rebirth. It's ok, because we can all conduct our own personal refresher courses in the lore of this franchise, starting with the original Jurassic Park trilogy.

All three films are currently streaming through access to Starz, with that library could easily added onto your Prime Video subscription. So if you need to catch up on Outlander after being chased by prehistoric beasts, you' won't need to go far to do just that.

Since the 1980s Samuel L. Jackson has been providing some of the most memorable moments on screen. With hundreds of credits to his name, he is one of the most recognizable actors of all time. This list is dedicated to some of his best moments in some of his most famous movies. For the sake of the children, we've left off some of his more memorable moments using the colorful language he is good at. But no matter, these moments are all fantastic as well!

Jurassic Park

As the computer tech in Jurassic Park, way too much falls on Samuel L. Jackson's shoulders to save the park and possibly the world. Still, the chain-smoking character does all he can. That includes rebooting the whole system, which means everyone needs to "hold on your butts."

Django Unchained

Jackson's character in Django Unchained is, well, unhinged. The scene where he has Django strung up and explains what kind of slave he intends to make of Django is one of the most insane scenes in a movie full of craziness. It's scary... and fantastic.

Avengers: Infinity War

Throughout the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Jackson's character Nick Fury has provided many amazing moments. One of the best is at the end of Avengers: Infinity War after Thanos snaps his fingers. Just as Fury is turning to dust along with half of the universe, he starts to utter the words that have made Samuel L. Jackson famous that involve a mother... only he disappears before he can get the words out.

Coming To America

Well, there isn't much you can quote from his short scene as a potential stick-up man in Coming To America and still keep this list rated PG, so we'll just have to hope that you know exactly what we're talking about here. If you know, you know. And if you don't, we might be forced to thrash you.

A Time to Kill

In a career filled with intense scenes, the one when Jackson's character is on the witness stand during his murder trial in A Time To Kill may be the most intense. When he can't help but burst out why he felt he had to murder the men accused of assaulting his daughter and where he hopes they are burning is just an incredible bit of acting.

Die Hard With A Vengeance

There are a lot of cool scenes in Die Hard With A Vengeance but one that shows exactly what kind of person Jackson's character is when he must answer a phone from the puppet master while facing down a cop who doesn't know what is going on. He HAS TO ANSWER THAT PHONE.

Thor

The post-credit scene in the first Thor movie is great. It's classic Nick Fury, one step ahead of every. Well, everyone but Loki. Still, his cool, calm, and collected demeanor is on full display here.

Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith

Throughout the prequel Star Wars movies, Mace Windu could have been a lot cooler. It's just one of the many things to criticize about those films. One thing you can criticize is how cool his death is and how close he came to changing the entire future when he takes on Palpatine in Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith. Had he not been betrayed by Anikin at the moment, there might not have been a need for the rebels, as the Empire would have been dead on arrival. So close, yet so far.

Shaft

Shaft isn't Samuel L. Jackson's best movie, but there are still only a handful of actors who could have ever pulled the role of the private...detective... that won't cop out when there is danger about. He's awesome in the role and while there are plenty of pretty great action scenes, it's the moments like the one in the coffee shop when he confronts the gang members and shows zero intimidation. It sums up all that is John Shaft.

Pulp Fiction

There really isn't a question here - not only is the Ezekiel 25:17 speech his coolest moment in Pulp Fiction, but it's one of the coolest moments in any movie, ever. He's got some other amazing moments in the movie, like his negotiation with the two robbers in the diner at the end, but come on, nothing touches that opening scene in the movie.

Captain America: Winter Soldier

Nick Fury is mostly the guy behind the guys in the MCU. He's the guy motivating and planning for the superheroes and rarely a superhero himself. That isn't the case in Captain America: Winter Soldier when he is attacked in his truck and audiences get to see why he is who he is and why he is trusted to run the whole shebang.

Kingsman: The Secret Service

In Kingsman: The Secret Service, Samuel L. Jackson plays a most unconventional villain. The weirdest moment of the movie has to be when he orders all the McDonalds to eat. It's weird, and yet somehow works in a hilarious way, only adding to his unconventional take on the role. Odd? yes? Memorable? Without question.

Snakes On A Plane

It's clear what scene we're talking about here. It's that scene where he's just had enough. He's sick of all the uh...annoying snakes on the... uh, plane. Snakes on a Plane shouldn't have been the hit that it was and that line, and his delivery of that line, is 100% made it a hit. Truly memorable.

The Great White Hype

Some people don't appreciate The Great White Hype. Many haven't even heard of it, but it's one of the more underrated comedies of the '90s and in it Jackson plays a boxing promoter loosely based on Don King. His negotiation with the #1 contender for a title shot is one of the funniest scenes in the movie, with Jamie Foxx matching Jackson line for line, but Jackson's character coming out on top, of course.

Menace II Society

The poker game in Menace II Society is scary. Though Samuel L. Jackson only has a supporting role as the gangster father of Caine, everything a viewer needs to know about him is shown in that one scene when he gets angry at another player for owing him money and shoots him dead right there at the table. In front of his young son.

Do The Right Thing

Samuel L. Jackson is the epitome of cool in Do The Right Thing as the DJ of the local station. The opening monologue sets up the movie beautifully and it's a voice you can listen to all day, just like the characters in the movie do.

Spider-Man: Far From Home

Nick Fury is not only known for being tough as nails, he also provides a lot of comic relief in the MCU. Take, for example, his exchange with Peter Parker in Spider-Man: Far From Home. Fury can't believe he's ended up in Parker's bedroom arguing with a teenager. We feel you, Nick.

The Banker

The best scene in The Banker isn't the golf course scene, but getting to see Samuel L. Jackson in 1960s golfing attire makes it the most memorable. It's just so great you want to spend the whole movie there, watching him in that getup.

Argylle

2024's Argylle was met with mostly mixed reviews and while some loved it, others found it just too meta and annoying. Like his role in another Matthew Vaughn film, Kingsman: The Secret Service, Jackson is really only seen a few times on screen and each time is memorable, like when has his eyes scratched out in what has to be a nod to the MCU, right?

Iron Man

At the time, no one could have known just how big the MCU would become, but Nick Fury seemed to know all along when, in the post-credit scene in Iron Man, Fury shows up at Tony Starks home and proposes the "Avenger Initiative." It's among the most memorable scenes in the whole franchise and we didn't even know it at the time.

The Hateful Eight

Director Quentin Tarantino clearly loves writing characters for Samuel L. Jackson as every time he's in one of Tarantino's movies, it leaves a lingering impression. Like the scene in The Hateful Eight when Jackson's character tells Bruce Dern's character that he knew the day Dern's character's son died, it was the day he met him. It's a line you'll never forget.

xXx

xXx is a way better movie than a lot of critics give it credit for. Sure it's completely ridiculous and "over-the-top" doesn't even begin to describe how off-the-wall it is. But it's got some amazing action sequences, like the one in the diner when Jackson's character recruits the titular "XXX" played by Vin Diesel.

The Avengers

Nick Fury has a lot of inspiring moments in the MCU and at the top of the list of his best is the speech he gives to the assembled Avengers after Phil Coulson is killed. There is no doubt you want to run through a wall for both Nick and Phil after that speech in The Avengers.

Patriot Games

Sometimes people forget that Samuel L. Jackson is even in Patriot Games, despite being in a scene that everyone remembers. After Jack Ryan returns to teaching after thwarting the attack on the Royals in London, he is presented the "Order of the Purple Target" by his fellow teachers at the Naval Academy, namely one played by Jackson.

Jackie Brown

Samuel L. Jackson's character in Jackie Brown has a wild look and an even crazier disposition. That attitude comes through most clearly in the scene Jackson shares with Chris Tucker where he convinces Tucker's character to get into the trunk of his car so he can murder him. Talk about unforgettable...

Captain Marvel

At the end of Captain Marvel, after we all learn how Nick Fury lost his eye, we learn something else - how he named The Avengers Initiative. It turns out, it comes from Carol Danvers' call sign etched on the side of her plane that he has a photo of. It's a pinnacle moment in the series, and we learn about how important Captain Marvel was from the very beginning.

Hard Eight

Samuel L. Jackson really makes the most out of a somewhat small, but very pivotal role in Paul Thomas Anderson's debut film Hard Eight. Though his character meets an unceremonious end, it's not until after he has an amazing scene with Sydney (Philip Baker Hall) after confronting him about some old business.

Black Snake Moan

Jackson's role in Black Snake Moan is... hard to take. The whole movie is pretty hard to watch and even if you understand his character's motivations, his actions don't really justify the means to the end. Still, that scene in the beginning when his character is rocking out on stage is at once very cool, but also a little bit scary as Jackson really shows the audience both sides of the character.

Sphere

Sphere really could have been a great movie. The film was adapted from the Michael Crichton novel of the same name, but it all felt a bit rushed like it was produced and filmed too quickly to cash in on the hype of Jurassic Park. Still, it has some cool scenes like when Jackson's character confronts the realization that they all may die down in the deep.

Long Kiss Goodnight

Long Kiss Goodnight is a decent action flick with some great comedic moments between the two co-stars, Geena Davis and Samuel L. Jackson. Jackson plays a detective hired by Davis' character to find out about her past, which she doesn't remember prior to being found washed ashore eight years early. It turns out that Davis' character is a former CIA assassin and like Jason Bourne has retained her training, if not her memory. In one scene she scolds Jackson to "take lessons" on fighting someone and he responds that he "took lessons!"

Rules of Engagement

There is something about Samuel L. Jackson on the stand in a court of law that really brings the best out of the actor. Just like in A Time To Kill, he's at his best in Rules of Engagement when he is being interrogated and it's a completely unforgettable scene, admitting he did what he was accused of doing but having good reason for it.

True Romance

Even if a movie is only written by Quentin Tarantino but not directed by him, like True Romance, it's like the words were only supposed to be delivered by Samuel L. Jackson. Jackson really only has one line in the movie and each word is dirtier than the last as he explains what he likes to do with the women he hooks up with. It's one of the most iconic moments in the movie, even if it's only a minute or so long.

I first went to Sphere in Las Vegas for a concert in early 2024, and I was amazed by the visuals and the sound. When it was reported that the groundbreaking venue could be adapting The Wizard of Oz for its incredible 160,000-square-foot screen, I immediately started daydreaming about what movies I would love to see at the venue. Here is the list I came up with—well, at least some of the movies I would love to see at Sphere.

Star Wars

The first movie I thought of when I started dreaming up this list was, of course, Star Wars. Just the thought of that opening scene of the two starships flying across the enormous screen provides me with vivid dreams. Not only that, but can you imagine that famous John Williams score blasting through that incredible sound system? It's overwhelming, in the best way.

Gladiator

Do you want to be entertained? Think of Gladiator on the screen at Sphere. From the opening battle scene in the forests of Germany to the final showdown between Russell Crowe and Joaquin Phoenix, it would be a cinematic experience like no other.

Avengers: Endgame

Really, for this one, it all comes down to that final battle with Thanos on the biggest screen in the world. So much happened in that scene, and so much work went into it, that it all seems right to see it on the massive screen with the insane resolution.

Fantasia

Really, this one is all about the music. Sure, it would be incredible to see the vintage animation on that screen, but the sound system, which includes 1,586 speakers, would deliver that amazing classical music soundtrack that would sound absolutely incredible. The visuals would be one incredible bonus. At the least, maybe Disney should make a new version of Fantasia made just for Sphere

Lawrence Of Arabia

One of the first movies I thought of that I would love to see on that giant screen is the classic Lawrence Of Arabia. It's a movie I've never had the opportunity to see in any theater, much less the largest theater in the world. Seeing those incredible, vast vistas sweeping across the screen would be a mind-blowing experience. It's worth noting that for a movie that is really long, the seats in Sphere are very comfortable.

The Dark Knight

To be honest, as much as I'd love to see the best Batman movie on Sphere's screen, I do worry that the intense (and incredible) action sequences make the audience motion sick. Being immersed in those car chases and the other huge set pieces might actually be too intense. On second thought, it would absolutely be worth the risk.

Jurassic Park

Not only do I want to see the dinosaurs 10 stories tall (or whatever it is), but there is one other feature that Sphere has that no other theater has - rumble seats. That's right, the seats vibrate. Now, imagine the scene with the T-Rex approaching, as the ground is shaking enough to make ripples in the water glass. Now imagine shaking with the ground in the movie. Wow. What an experience that would be.

The Sound Of Music

A musical like The Sound of Music would be simply beautiful on the screen at Sphere. The magical vistas across the Alps would be incredible and the clarity of the music would be unlikely any other experience in any other theater. The hills would really be alive.

The Thin Red Line

No other war film has been as beautiful as director Terrence Malick's The Thin Red Line. The cinematography and the sound design are absolutely perfect for the technology that only Sphere can provide. It's an intense war movie, but it's the best war movie to see on screen like this.

Harry Potter And The Prisoner of Azkaban

Without question, I think there would need to be at least one Harry Potter movie adapted for Sphere. I can't think of a better one than Harry Potter And The Prisoner of Azkaban. Director Alfonso Cuarón's imprint is all over the movie, especially visually, and for that reason, it's the perfect choice. Plus, the bus scene by itself would make the price of admission worth it.

Dunkirk

You just knew this one had to be on the list. Christopher Nolan's Dunkirk is a visual masterpiece and one of the best war movies ever. It deserves the Sphere treatment. Nolan loves to shoot in IMAX and Sphere is like an IMAX screen on steroids. Just dreaming about watching the Spitfires move across the immense screen fills me with joy. I can't imagine how it would really look.

2001: A Space Odyssey

There are so many aspects of 2001: A Space Odyssey that would be amazing. The spacewalk and all the scenes in the spaceship would just be so trippy to watch at Sphere. That's not to mention the trippiest part of the movie, the third act with the color and light and the totally wild ending. It would be like a rock concert in there.

Top Gun

The opening sequence to Top Gun, with the souring guitar of Harold Faltermeyer's theme music and all the action on the deck of the aircraft carrier, would suck audiences straight in. By the time "Danger Zone" started everyone would be fully entranced. Then we'd get to the flying scenes. Wow.

Avatar

I'm not actually a huge fan of Avatar, but that doesn't matter, because I appreciate how amazing it looks on the big screen. Putting it on the biggest screen in the world - and in 3-D - and I'll bet I'd be a convert. I'd become a huge fan of it.

Braveheart

Braveheart is another movie I'm not actually a huge fan of. It's a wildly historically inaccurate movie, and that drives me nuts. That said, visually it's an incredible achievement and for that reason alone, I'm ready to see it on the screen at Sphere. The Battle of Stirling Bridge would be absolutely insane to watch.

Black Panther

I love Black Panther and seeing Wakanda on a screen the size of Sphere would be an amazing experience. Wakanda is one of the coolest places in the entire MCU, visually, and the final battle would absolutely incredible,

The Great Escape

The Great Escape is classic old-school Hollywood. It's chock full of larger-than-life movie stars like Steve McQueen and Richard Attenborough. It's also filled with amazing vistas across Bavaria that would look absolutely amazing on a giant screen. It also has one of my favorite scores of all time, so that would be an excellent bonus through those speakers.

Saving Private Ryan

I think you all know my thoughts here. The opening of Saving Private Ryan is one of the most incredible scenes ever put on film. It's terrifying and amazing. It is one of the most white-knuckle theater experiences I've ever had and seeing it on the screen at Sphere would be a completely visceral experience that would absolutely blow my mind.

Skyfall

I love the James Bond franchise and as much as I love the Connery era, it doesn't make any sense for one of those movies to be adapted for Sphere. The Craig-era, on the other hand, has multiple choices. I landed on Skyfall because it's full of wide angel amazing shots and action set pieces. The opening scene of Spectre was tempting, but Skyfall gets the nod.

Oppenheimer

This one may seem like an odd one, but that's only if you didn't have a chance to see Oppenheimer in 70mm IMAX. Like most of Christopher Nolan, the bigger the screen, the better, so catching the Best Picture-winner on a screen like the one at Sphere would be totally bonkers. Talk about a "big boom"!

Ghostbusters

There is one reason to see Ghostbusters get the Sphere treatment. Who doesn't want to see a 100-foot-tall Stay Puft Marshmallow Man? I know I certainly do! Sure, the rest of the movie might not work all that well, a giant Bill Murray getting slimed may be too much for anyone, but I'd be willing to deal with that for the last battle of the movie on the streets of New York with the fictional marshmallow man.

Butch Cassidy And The Sundance Kid

The cliff. That's why Butch Cassidy And The Sundance Kid would work so well. That scene alone would make it all worth it. It would be such an adrenaline rush to see two of the biggest movie stars of all time, Paul Newman and Robert Redford, drop 100 feet down that huge screen.

The Rocky Horror Picture Show

Something like 19,000 people can fill Sphere when it's at full capacity. So how about all 19K doing "The Time Warp" together with that sound system blasting the music in The Rocky Horror Picture Show? I grew up going to midnight showings and seeing it with a huge crowd of dedicated fans would simply be amazing. Plus I keep thinking about that scene in the beginning as the camera zooms in on the criminologist played by Charles Gray. In the midnight showings, someone always "climbed" his tie as it zoomed in. I need to see that here.

The Hunt For Red October

The Hunt For Red October is rightfully criticized these days for the sketchy special effects in the underwater scenes. But the above-water stuff is still incredibly cool and watching the submarine battle take place on the screen at Sphere is totally worth having to deal with the rest. Plus I just love the movie.

The Matrix

How much really needs to be explained here? Is there anybody that wouldn't want to see The Matrix at Sphere? Of course not, it would be amazing.

Ben-Hur

This is another one that is pretty self-explanatory. Ben-Hur is one of the most legendary epics in Hollywood history and there is no place like Sphere to see an epic on this scale. The chariot race alone, especially with the chairs vibrating with every crash, would be worth whatever the cost to see it would be,

Patton

A 160,000-square-foot American flag with the great George C. Scott playing the titular Patton at the beginning of the movie would be completely overwhelming in the very best way. It's enough to make anyone patriotic!

Rocky IV

Of all the Rocky movies, Rocky IV is the "biggest." The muscles are bigger, the set pieces are bigger, and the villain is bigger. It's just a huge movie, visually, and for that reason, even if it's not the best Rocky movie, it's the one that makes the most sense for this list.

Dances With Wolves

No one can argue that Dances With Wolves isn't a visually stunning movie. Director Kevin Costner did an amazing job showing what the American frontier was once like. The cinematography alone makes it worthy of the Sphere treatment.

Bridge Over The River Kwai

Like the other classic epics on this list, Bridge Over The River Kwai is one of those movies that has always meant to have been on the biggest screens possible. Direct David Lean is a master of movies like that and really, his whole filmography would work for Sphere.

Raiders Of The Lost Ark

This one seems like another no-brainer. With scenes like the rolling boulder at the beginning and the scene at the end when they make the poor decision to open the ark, there is just so much in Raiders of the Lost Ark that would look amazing on the giant screen. Then there is the John Williams score which would be amazing by itself with that incredible concert-quality speaker system.

Tron: Legacy

When I first saw Tron: Legacy in theaters, I was completely blown away by the CGI and the visuals. While the original Tron changed the way films were made with the use of computer-generated imagery, the sequel upped the ante significantly. Seeing those amazing effects at Sphere would raise that even more, which is appropriate for Las Vegas.

There is little doubt that Steven Spielberg is one of the - if not the - best directors of the last 50 years. He has produced hit after hit and almost all of his movies have proved that they have real staying power and even years later we still love them and love to discuss them. Spielberg is a master at pacing his movies and including some of the coolest and most talked-about scenes ever, just like the scenes on this list.

The Rolling Boulder - Raiders Of The Lost Ark

There are opening scenes, and then there is the opening scene from Raiders of the Lost Ark. Not only does the opening sequence, with Indy (Harrison Ford) and his partner played by Alfred Molina perfectly define the character that we would come to adore over the decades, but it includes one of the best action sequences ever. The final booby trap Indy must escape is, of course, the giant rolling boulder and it still leaves us all breathless.

Quint's Speech - Jaws

Spielberg's Jaws is often considered the first true "summer blockbuster," despite the director's initial reluctance to make it. That mostly has to do, of course, with the shark. If you dig a little deeper though, it's the human characters that really make the movie so enduring. Quint, played by Robert Shaw, tells one of the most iconic stories in film history when he recounts his experience on the ill-fated USS Indianapolis during World War II.

The Red Dress - Schindler's List

One of the best tricks that Spielberg pulls in his Best Picture-winning film Schindler's List is humanizing an event - The Holocaust - that was so vast and the numbers so overwhelming that it's hard to really understand. One thing he does so effectively to do this is showing the lone girl in a red dress, the only color in the movie until the very end. The red dress is seen later in a pile of clothing of victims of the atrocity, bringing a really emotional gut punch to the whole movie, which is already one of the hardest to ever rewatch.

Biking Past The Moon - E.T. The Extra Terrestrial

Until Titanic, E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial was the highest-grossing movie of all time and it's easy to understand why even decades later. The movie is remarkably well-made and beautifully shot. The most enduring shot has to be the sight of Elliott and ET flying past the moon on the bicycle.

The Opening Scene - Saving Private Ryan

The opening scene of Saving Private Ryan completely changed how war films are made, especially movies about World War II. The brutal action sequence of the army rangers hitting the beaches of Normandy on D-Day produces a visceral reaction from all who see it and has been praised for accurately depicting what it was like on that fateful day in June 1944. It's the biggest reason the movie is one of the best war movies ever made.

Playing The Music For The First Time - Close Encounters Of The Third Kind

Close Encounters Of The Third Kind isn't as talked about as many of Steven Spielberg's movies, but one scene that no one forgets is when the humans and the aliens trade music notes in an attempt to learn to communicate. The melody is unforgettable and you're problem humming it right now.

The First Time Everyone Sees The Dinos - Jurassic Park

It's hard to explain what a cultural bombshell Jurassic Park was when it landed in theaters in the summer of 1993 to anyone who wasn't alive at the time. It was huge and the special effects, the dinosaurs, were a huge reason why. The moment that the characters first set eyes on previously extinct animals is simply magical.

Saluting The Kamikazes - Empire Of The Sun

Empire of the Sun is the most underrated movie directed by Steven Spielberg. Even at the time it flew under the radar. Throughout the movie, Christian Bale's character endures a lot and the moment he watches the Japanese kamikaze pilots take off as the war is ending is deeply emotional for him and the audience.

Arguing In The Fire - Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade

Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade is the most fun of the three original Indiana Jones movies. The chemistry between Indy and his father, played by Sean Connery is what makes the movie so charming. Nowhere is this better seen than when the two of them are tied up together by their captors and manage to light the room on fire and save themselves by moving into a fireplace that is more than it seems.

The Stairwell Argument - Munich

When Ali (Omar Metwally), a PLO member, and Avner (Eric Bana), a Mossad agent in Munich find themselves in the same safe house, they have a serious and intense discussion about the future of Palestine and Israel and who will control it in the near and far futures. It's elegantly shot with smoke from the two men's cigarettes lingering in the air, just as the question of the fate of the Palestinians and Israelis is.

Defiance - The Color Purple

Oprah Winfrey's performance in The Color Purple is heartbreak, powerful, and emotional. The scene in which she defies the white men she encounters on the street tells you everything you need to know about her character and the message of the movie.

Lincoln's Discussion With Grant - Lincoln

Whenever Daniel Day-Lewis takes on a role, you know you're going to be in for a treat. Of all his many award-winning roles, none are quite as amazing as his performance of President Abraham Lincoln in Lincoln. His conversation with General U.S. Grant (Jared Harris) after the Siege of Petersburg is a quiet part of the movie that says so much about both men.

The Car Race - Ready Player One

One of the biggest changes between the book Ready Player One and the movie is the addition of a car chase for the first key. It's a smart decision as it plays perfectly in the movie and the action sequence is the kind of chase you can watch over and over, and it's chock full of easter eggs, just like the rest of the movie.

The Jurassic Park franchise has given us six movies already and a seventh is already underway. While what we know about Jurassic World: Rebirth is fairly limited at the moment, beyond some teases from director Gareth Edwards, the screenwriter is teasing some things that should have fans of the first movie very excited.

The original Jurassic Park was a groundbreaking movie for its use of CGI effects to create realistic-looking dinosaurs. The new film, while it will follow chronologically from the events of the previous trilogy, will be an entirely new story with new characters. It doesn't appear previous actors from the Jurassic World or Jurassic Park movies will appear. A story needs a fresh start.

We know that the plot of Jurassic World: Rebirth will see Scarlett Johansson lead a team to an island in order to obtain material from dinosaurs that may be usable in human medicine. One can see how the tone of the new movie may closely match the original since the story of both sees humans stuck on an island with dangerous dinosaurs.

Certainly, many ways in which the new Jurassic World is like the original Jurassic Park are likely to be a good thing. While all the movies in the newest trilogy were box office behemoths, it’s difficult to argue that any of the sequels have been as good as Steven Spielberg’s original.

All of the Jurassic Park movies have been, at the very least, fun, even if they haven’t all become classic cinema. It’s difficult to imagine how a new film could truly match the groundbreaking original. The first Jurassic Park’s CGI holds up today, in ways that more modern CGI often does not, which unfortunately means that no follow-up can really outdo it in that regard. The best it can accomplish is to be just as good.

If there’s one way the new movie may be able to match, or even exceed the original it’s in the fact that the Jurassic World: Rebirth cast is stacked. From Scarlett Johansson to Mahershala Ali to Jonathan Bailey, whose stock is going up as we speak thanks to Wicked, the new movie won’t be lacking talent. If it can also make us feel like we’re watching the original Jurassic Park for the first time, we could have something special on the way.
