2003's Battlestar Galactica may have had a rocky start, but, today, (17 years after its conclusion), the show has a devoted fanbase that loves it. The revival, which is part of a much bigger larger Battlestar Galactica franchise, includes a pretty great cast, and most of them are still close with one another. On that note, Starbuck actress Katee Sackhoff just reunited with some former co-stars, and her post evoked some serious feelings within this fan's heart.

Over the weekend, Sackhoff attended Comic Con Revolution in Ontario, and she was not the only BSG guest. James Callis, Tricia Helfer, Mary McDonnell, Edward James Olmos and Grace Park were also at the convention, and Sackhoff couldn’t help but document the fun meetup. She posted some sweet pictures to her Instagram on Monday that were taken in between photo ops, noting in the caption that trauma bonding in space “really is forever.” Check it out:

I always love seeing a cast get together years after the end of their show, especially considering that not every troupe of actors remains close after a gig is done. Based on what's known about the BSG crew, they've long seemed to be tight, and I love Sackhoff's quip about bonding over "trauma." Of course, it feels like the actress is simply referring to the fictional exploits that their characters experienced on the show. Nevertheless, I can still imagine the cast pulling together throughout any theoretical hurdles they may have experienced amidst filming.

Throughout the years, it's felt like Katee Sackhoff hasn't missed any kind of opportunity to show love to her comrades. For example, a few years ago, Sackhoff posted a reunion photo from yet another convention, which showed her and several co-stars beaming while being in each other's presence.

Based on the behind-the-scenes tidbits that have been shared about the show, the stars really did help each other. A great example of that would be Olmos, who stars as William Adama in the reboot, givng Sackhoff a note about playing Kara “Starbuck” Thrace. What Sackhoff received was intense, constructive criticism that, with Olmos telling her to listen to other people while doing her work. Per Sackhoff, that piece of advice really stuck with her.

Considering the continued love for this sci-fi franchise and the fact that the Battlestar Galactica finale is open-ended, it's hard not to wonder if Starbuck and co. may return in some form. Peacock was developing a continuation of the 2004 series in 2019, but it was reported in 2024 that it was no longer happening.

That doesn’t necessarily mean a follow-up won’t ever happen, of course, but we'll just have to wait and see. In the meantime, though, I look forward to seeing more potential reunion photos shared by Katee Sackhoff or any of her colleagues in the near future. Although Katee Sackhoff has been professionally acting since 1997, she scored her breakthrough role when she was cast as Kara “Starbuck” Thrace in the Battlestar Galactica reimagining in 2003. Originally conceived as a miniseries, it evolved into a four-season series (plus two tie-in movies) boasting an ensemble cast anchored by Edward James Olmos as William Adama. Battlestar Galactica ended in 2009, but there was an acting note that Olmos gave Sackhoff early into its run that has stuck with her through her career.

The actress shared this note during an episode of Back to Battlestar: Katee's First Watch, where she watches Battlestar Galactica episodes for the first time alongside her husband, Robin Gadsby. For this installment, the duo watched Season 1’s “Act of Contrition,” in which Kara reveals to Adama that his late son Zack failed basic training, but she passed him anyway because they were engaged, which paved the way for him to die in a flying accident. Ahead of starting “Act of Contrition,” Sackhoff recalled the following to Gadsby about when she and Olmos were filming this:

Ouch! Talk about coming in hot with the constructive criticism. At this point, Katee Sackhoff and Edward James Olmos had been working with each other on Battlestar Galactica for roughly a year, so it’s not like they were still strangers to one another. Maybe that’s why Olmos felt the need to give her that piece of advice, as he was legitimately interested in seeing her succeed, whereas he might not have made that same effort with someone with whom he just started working. Whatever his reasoning, Sackhoff took this note to heart because it was the first time she’d ever heard something like this:

Katee Sackhoff later pointed out the moment when Kara is telling Adama the truth about Zack’s death about what prompted Edward James Olmos to speak with her in between takes and advised her to listen. It’s served her well since then, and it’s advice that all actors should take to heart. Memorizing lines is obviously important, but you also still need to be absorbing the dialogue your scene partner is delivering rather than just waiting for your next cue to speak. I’d like to think Sackhoff was doing this without second thought by the time she shot Season 3’s “Unfinished Business.”

Unfortunately, Battlestar Galactica is not streaming on any platform at the time of this writing. It’s a good time to be a Star Wars fan, finally, as those who are looking forward to both the first Star Wars theatrical release in years and the next chapter of the most popular Star Wars series on Disney+ will get their wish. The Mandalorian and Grogu is one of the most anticipated movies on the 2026 release calendar, and while it may not contain a fan favorite character, Katee Sackhoff promises that Bo-Katan Kryze will be back someday.

In a recent appearance at Fan Expo Vancouver (via The Direct), Katee Sackhoff was asked if she expected to return to the Star Wars universe at some point, and while many might give vague answers to such questions, Sackhoff was very open that she fully expects to play the role of Bo-Katan “forever.” She can’t imagine her character ever being killed off or erased because the Chief Creative Officer, and brand new co-President of Lucasfilm, would have to answer to his wife. Sackhoff has revealed previously that the character that she first voiced in The Clone Wars animated series, before playing her in live-action on The Mandalorian, found her name as an amalgamation of the name of Filoni’s wife and the wife’s pet cat. Sackhoff said…

Katee Sackhoff likely isn’t wrong; that is some serious job security. I would not want to be Dave Filoni if he came home one day and had to tell his wife that he killed off her character. As far as we know, we won’t be seeing Bo-Katan in the upcoming The Mandalorian and Grogu movie, but surprises are sure to be in store. It would not be a shock if she appeared.

Even outside of the film, we’re still expecting a major Star Wars movie from Filoni that will bring together all of the Disney+ Star Wars series in an Avengers-like crossover, and considering how important Bo-Katan is to both The Mandalorian and Ahsoka Tano, it’s hard to believe she won’t be a factor then.

With Dave Filoni now in full creative control at Lucasfilm, it’s not like anybody is going to tell him not to include the character inspired by his wife whenever he chooses to do so.

Katee Sackhoff has been celebrated (and, unfortunately, sometimes booed) for her roles in shows like Battlestar Galactica, The Mandalorian and more. Yet, lately, she’s been speaking out in relation to her most important role — being a mom. Sackhoff opened up about issues in pediatric care that she has witnessed amidst her daughter’s battle with cancer, saying that it takes “a pissed-off mom” to point out flaws in the system.

The actress and her husband Robin Gadsby had their first child, Ginevra Grace Gadsby, in December 2021. Just eight months later, Ginervra (aka Ginny) was diagnosed with cancer and, while Sackhoff said in an Instagram post that her daughter is thriving today, she’s asking for help because there are so many people with sick children who see different outcomes. The actress wrote:

The caption accompanied a video from an interview that Katee Sackhoff gave, in which she said that just 4 percent of the National Cancer Institute’s budget goes to pediatrics. She said doctors are not choosing to go into the field because pediatric oncologists reportedly make, on average, 50 percent less than adult oncologists.

Sackhoff is calling for that to change, as she continued:

Those are some powerful words, and knowing what her family has been through the past few years, it’s not hard to understand why. The actress — whose movie with Josh Hartnett has so many WTF moments — is determined to change things so that more families can experience the positive outcome hers has.

Katee Sackhoff and her husband are among the celebrities who've chosen not to share their children’s faces (they also have a son, Granger Oakes Gadsby, who was born in May 2024), but that hasn’t stopped them from posting some of their adventures to social media. The family recently shared some pics from a Disney vacation to Instagram:

It’s good to see Ginny is doing well, and we love to see the whole family having fun. It’s also touching to see how passionate Sackhoff is about ensuring that other families are able to continue to make their own happy memories.

Katee Sackhoff is well known within the sci-fi/fantasy/superhero sphere, but not just for one particular character. For Battlestar Galactica fans, she may always be Kara "Starbuck" Thrace. For the Star Wars faithful, she's been playing Bo-Katan Kryze since before the character even emerged from animation to appear in live-action. Sackhoff even dabbled in the world of DC Comics adaptations as Amunet Black on The CW's The Flash. By this point in the 2025 TV schedule, fans have plenty of characters played by Sackhoff to choose from to pick a favorite.

The actress leaned into all those roles to celebrate Halloween this year, posting photos of all the times she wore clothes for work that could double as costumes fit for the spooky season. For me, she'll always be Starbuck first and foremost, so I had no idea just how many photos she'd be able to include! Take a look:

For anybody who wants to channel their inner Katee Sackhoff character for Halloween one of these years, some of the options are pretty elaborate, although her look for Longmire might not be too hard to recreate on short notice. The dress from Oculus might not be difficult to dupe, but the evil glowing eyes would be a little complicated.

Some other actors who have been all over the sci-fi sphere hit up her comment section to weigh in with some pretty endearing messages. Ming-Na Wen, another Mandalorian (and later Book of Boba Fett) alum, wrote in the comments:

Honestly, Ming-Na Wen is another actor who probably has a closet full of outfits worthy of Halloween, if she got take home her wardrobe for her Star Wars work and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Throw in a white coat and set of scrubs for longtime ER fans like me, and there are lots of options out of her list of credits. (Thankfully, she didn't end up quitting action roles despite being tempted.)

Star Trek legend Jonathan Frakes had a pitch for her that would lead to another outfit worthy of Halloween:

If anybody could arrange for a Star Trek gig, Jonathan Frakes would probably be the guy! Not only is he known for playing Commander Riker in The Next Generation, but he has directed episodes all across the franchise.

Fans also had comments on the photos, and I was surprised to see how much love Longmire got. I knew the show (which is available streaming now with a Paramount+ subscription) has its fair share of fans, but always assumed that she'd be most appreciated for her sci-fi work.

All in all, Katee Sackhoff found a fun way to wish a happy Halloween to her social media followers, and I'm guessing that there will be a fair number of people all over the country dressed like her various characters to celebrate the spookiest holiday of the year.

Warning: SPOILERS for Fight or Flight are ahead!

Sometimes I’ll go into a movie having watched its many trailers and other previews ahead of time, other times I’ll go in almost completely blind. Fight or Flight fell into the latter category for me. All I knew prior to streaming this 2025 movie with my Paramount+ subscription was that it stars Josh Hartnett and Katee Sackhoff, received a decent amount of positive reception, and, you know, takes place on a plane.

Well, after watching Fight or Flight, I can definitely say this has been one of my wildest cinematic experiences of the year. So much so that there are 10 WTF moments that have been living rent-free in my head since watching the movie.

Chayenne Being Awkward As Hell

The first assassin Josh Hartnett’s Lucas Reyes deals with on the plane is Marko Zaror’s Chayenne, who’s seated next to him. He doesn’t waste any time becoming one of those passengers who’s desperate to have a conversation while the person next to them would rather not engage, to the point he asks for Lucas’ opinion on how a dance number he’s planning should end. Of course, this was all just a ploy to get Lucas to lower his defenses so that he could kill him, though it ultimately backfired on him.

The Assassin With The Freaky Eyes

One of the other assassins on the plane stands out for her freaky eyes. I did a slight double take when she took off her sunglasses to show off those distinctive peepers. They’d be distracting in any other job, but as a paid killer, it gives her an air of mystery. This character only ended up serving two purposes. The first was killing the second air marshal, and the second… well, more on that later.

The Clarinet-Playing Assassin

Fight or Flight definitely feels like it was trying to emulate the John Wick franchise with its colorful assassins, but this was just too showy. In the middle of one of Lucas’ many fights, a dude comes out playing a clarinet, only to reveal there was a knife stashed inside of it. I could understand if this had happened out on the street and the assassin was busking as a cover, but on a plane, it’s just unnecessary.

Isha’s Martial Artist Companions

While I can’t say I saw Isha being The Ghost coming, I wouldn’t call it a shocking surprise. What did take me off guard is when it’s revealed that she’d been accompanied by Master Lian and her two students, with them having pledged their devotion to Isha after she helped them out. I don’t have an issue with Isha having three martial artists protecting her, but don’t you think it’d be wise of them to wear more non-conspicuous clothing so they can keep a lower profile?

The Pilots Talking About Sully

There comes a point where Lucas has no choice but to tell the pilots about all the assassins that are out to kill him and The Ghost. With communications out, they have no choice but to keep the plane in the air and eventually land it. That makes them think about Sully Sullenberger, the pilot who successfully that plane in the Hudson River in 2009 after both its engines were disabled. He got a book deal and a movie made about him starring Tom Hanks, so the pilots in Fight or Flight salivate at the idea that the same could happen to them. Guys, there’s a time and a place.

Brunt And Hunter Roasting The People Doing Yoga

Initially Katee Sackhoff’s Katherine Brunt and Julian Kostov’s Aaron Hunter are presented as generic government agents, but it’s later revealed that their operation is connected to a social media app and based out of the company’s headquarters. That’s all well and good, but the reveal of said headquarters comes after Brunt and Hunter are outside and insult some nearby people doing yoga. I’m going to assume those people are employees at the app, but it still feels out of place, especially since the app company reveal would have been accomplished just as easily by tying it back to the device Isha brought aboard the plane.

Lucas Tripping Balls On Toad Venom

When Isha left that vet’s office after being stitched up, she took some sedatives and adrenaline with her. Lucas later takes that adrenaline so that he can still function for the fight ahead, but it turns out it’s actually toad venom in the bottle. Moments later, he starts tripping balls, which makes the fight much more hilarious. I especially cracked up at when Lucas comes face to face with the freaky-eyed assassin and thinks fireworks are spurting from the top of her head, but he actually just stabbed her there and blood starts pouring out like a geyser.

Death By Missionaries

I wasn’t surprised that assassins eventually made it into the pilot’s cabin. What did surprise me was that they were dressed like missionaries and killed the pilots. The first died when he tried to fire a flare at one of the killers, only for it to be deflected, bounce around the room a few times and end up in his eye. The second cause of death was simply assault by Bible, literally.

Lucas Murdering Bad Guys With A Chainsaw

Because of course this movie is so crazy that we reach a point where Isha tosses Lucas a chainsaw that she found in storage. And by the way, this is as he’s still high on the toad venom. There’s really not much else to say other than this level of gore gives Quentin Tarantino a run for his money.

Lucas Waking Up In A War Zone Hospital

The good news is that Lucas Reyes didn’t die from the wounds he sustained on the plane. After he told Katherine Brunt on the phone that he refused to give up The Ghost, he passed out, but Isha was able to get him to a hospital once the plane landed. The bad news is that hospital is in a war-torn area, and immediately after he wakes up, Isha arrives to evacuate him. So his life isn’t about to get any less chaotic. Fight or Flight 2 anyone?

I don’t know if Fight or Flight will end up becoming one of the best action movies, but it definitely makes for an entertaining time. Also there are a lot more WTF moments than just what I’ve listed, so feel free to go to the comments to list ones that caught your attention.

The Battlestar Galactica franchise has been around for decades and it's one of the best sci-fi TV shows from the '70s and '80s. Fans old and new were reintroduced to its sci-fi world in 2003 by way of Battlestar Galactica on Syfy, which ran for a total of four seasons, plus a miniseries and two made-for-TV movies. Despite being wildly different from the original, the series earned critical acclaim throughout its run. However, the classic favorite actually started off on the wrong foot, according to star Katee Sackhoff.

Sackhoff starred as Kara “Starbuck” Thrace, the Viper pilot of Galactica, and quickly became a TV fan-favorite. That being said, not every big show kicks off on a high note, or at least, not every character kicks off on a high note. Sackhoff was a guest on The Joe Rogan Experience, telling the podcast host that there was backlash after she was cast spearheaded by fans who wanted Starbuck to be played by a male as it went in the original series. She said:

Since Battlestar Galactica originally aired for one season from 1978 to 1979 on ABC, followed by Galactica 1980 the following year for 10 episodes, the show had already built up a fanbase, and some dedicated fans, at that. Sackhoff recalled how she saw the hate she was getting on a thread and tried her hardest to not search herself to make things even worse. But San Diego Comic-Con did that for her, because she experienced the hate firsthand. Luckily, the actress handled it like a pro:

It’s not easy taking up the mantle of a character that has been loved for decades, no matter how long they were initially around for. But Sackhoff didn’t seem to mind it so much back then, and it sounds like as the panel went on, fans started to come around. She went on to explain that as she started doing more conventions, the line would get longer and longer, and people would even tell her they didn’t want to like the show, but they love it.

Sci-fi fans are certainly a dedicated bunch, and it’s not surprising that they would be on the fence with a new Battlestar Galactica series. At least;, a lot of them gave the show and Sackhoff a chance, otherwise, who knows what could have happened. Of course, Battlestar Galactica was not like its predecessor, and it was a darker reboot, but one that ultimately won over some passionate fans.

There was supposed to be another Battlestar Galactica revival a few years ago on Peacock from NBCUniversal, but as of July 2024, that is no longer happening. Whether the franchise will make another comeback is unknown, but at the very least, fans may be a bit more open-minded following the early 2000s reboot, which is still a favorite today.

Even as Katee Sackhoff’s popularity increases thanks to projects like The Mandalorian (which, unfortunately, messed with her confidence), the 2025 movie Fight or Flight and the upcoming Carrie miniseries, Battlestar Galactica continues to be an important part of her life. The actress played Kara “Starbuck” Thrace in then-Sci-Fi Channel series that reimagined Glen A. Larson’s same-named sci-fi show from the late ‘70s. And yet, Sackhoff evidently wasn’t in the loop on everything that happened on the 2000s Battlestar Galactica, because she missed out on one of the show’s wilder plotlines.

This came to light on The Sackhoff Show when she was talking with Charisma Carpenter, who played Cordelia Chase on Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel. As Carpenter started to talk about she never knew that Buffy’s mom died, Sackhoff said:

Considering Starbuck wasn’t involved with this plotline at all, I’m not terribly surprised Katee Sackhoff didn’t know about it if she’s never gone back to watch Battlestar Galactica from start to finish. And honestly, this was one of the weirder story beats from the series.

It saw Colonel Saul Tigh sleeping with Caprica Six, who was unaware at the time he was one of the Final Five Cylons. However, she learned the truth upon getting pregnant, and not only did they grow closer from there, but her baby would have been the first to be born from two procreating human Cylon models. However, once Saul’s wife Ellen, another one of the Final Five, returned, Tigh and Caprica’s relationship started to deteriorate, and then Caprica lost the baby.

Now all of that is wild enough on its own, but then you have to remember how the Final Five (which also included Galen Tyrol, Sam Anders and Tory Foster) were the last survivors of the humanoid Cylon race on the first Earth. Not only did they arrange the truce between the humans and Centurions created by the Twelve Colonies, they also created the eight humanoid models of this era and gave them resurrection technology. So in a sense, Tigh was the “father” who was sleeping with his “daughter,” Six.

Yeah, I don’t particularly care to get more into the weeds with that aspect of Battlestar Galactica, but I do like how Katee Sackhoff learned about this while on stage in front of a crowd of people from Tricia Helfer, who played the various Six models. Now I wonder if there are any other plotlines she doesn’t know about. If there are, I hope she learns about them from other cast Battlestar Galactica cast members, as I doubt she has the time to watch the series in its entirety.

While Katee Sackhoff was certainly a well-known actor prior to 2020 thanks to Battlestar Galactica, Longmire, Riddick, 24 and various other projects, her profile definitely got a major boost from The Mandalorian. Following her animated outings as Bo-Katan Kryze in Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels, Sackhoff brought her Star Wars character to life in live-action in the Disney+ subscription-exclusive show’s second season, then returned for Season 3. In the midst of that though, there was something that triggered Sackhoff to lose “all” of her confidence and doubt her acting abilities.

The actress talked about this dark time in her life while she was chatting with her Battlestar Galactica co-star Tahmoh Penikett on The Sackhoff Show, where the two of them also reflected on how they were wrong to reject Edward James Olmos’ advice when they were younger. Sackhoff informed Penikett that she “just now figured out a process almost 30 years” into her acting career and hired an acting coach. When he asked her to elaborate, she started off by saying:

It’s one thing to voice a character across a handful of episodes of two animated TV shows (and later the anthology series Star Wars: Tales of the Empire), but playing Bo-Katan on camera marked a major turning point for Katee Sackhoff. More eyes were on her than ever, and while it may have looked on the outside like she was effectively playing the character, the experience was enough for her to start doubting herself because she wasn’t able to connect to Bo-Katan on a deeper level. Sackhoff continued:

Michael Trucco is another one of Katee Sackhoff’s Battlestar Galactica cohorts, and she and him have remained close since the show ended in 2009. That’s exemplified by how she was willing to be vulnerable in front of him about her acting struggles. She then told Tahmoh Penikett about how she was “scrambling” at this point because she “had no technique to fall back on,” which then led to a clash with her ex-manager:

From there, Katee Sackhoff hired a new manager, told him how she felt, and he set her up with an acting coach. That coach then told Sackhoff it wasn’t her goal to teach her out to act since she already knew how to do that, but just to get the Kara Thrace actress back in her “belly.” Evidently it worked, as Sackhoff sounds like she’s in a much more confident place. Otherwise, I doubt she would have discussed this subject while Tahmoh Penikett was appearing on her podcast.

That said, it’s unclear when we’ll see Katee Sackhoff reprise Bo-Katan Kryze again. Although The Mandalorian & Grogu comes out on May 22, 2026, but here’s been no mention of her being in the cast. Still, given both Sackhoff and Bo-Katan’s popularity, I have to think there’ll come a day when she returns to the Star Wars universe, even if it’s not necessarily tied to Din Djarin’s story.

Believe it or not, more than two decades have passed since Battlestar Galactica premiered on the The Sci-FI Channel, and the show has bounced around different streaming services in the years since its four-season run ended in 2009. The legacy is strong, however, and not because Katee Sackhoff is one of the most memorable Big Bang Theory guest stars. Sackhoff and her BSG costar, Tahmoh Penikett, have opened up about the show's lasting impact that Edward James Olmos predicted... even though they didn't believe him at the time.

Sackhoff and Penikett were in their early 20s when they debuted as Kara "Starbuck" Thrace and Karl "Helo" Agathon, respectively. Both had some TV credits to their name at the time, but no breakout hits and certainly nothing that shot them to pop culture fame like BSG would starting in 2004. In contrast, Edward James Olmos was in his late 50s and had a long list of film and television credits to his name before he debuted as Bill Adama on BSG.

Looking back while speaking to Katee Sackhoff on her The Sackhoff Show podcast, Tahmoh Penikett said:

If anybody in the cast would have known about about what works and what doesn't in showbiz, I definitely would have named Edward James Olmos and Mary McDonnell even before hearing Tahmoh Penikett's comments. Of course, at the time, shows from The Sci-Fi Channel (now known as Syfy) weren't really known for lasting legacies and reaching broad audiences, so the young stars didn't totally appreciate Olmos' comments. Sackhoff shared:

Both actors have certainly accumulated their own long lists of credits in the years since Battlestar Galactica, with Katee Sackhoff even jumping from a TV show about the military set in the future to a TV show about the military set a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away thanks to her role as Bo-Katan in The Mandalorian. One of my personal favorite roles of Penikett's has to be his recurring role as Gadreel in Supernatural Season 9. Suffice it to say that they now know that Edward James Olmos knew what he was talking about!

Tahmoh Penikett went on to confirm that they now understand that Olmos "wasn't trying to demean or sabotage the rest of our careers or saying we wouldn't amount to more." The Dollhouse vet said:

While Olmos' wisdom about the legacy of the show may seem supernatural a la Nostradamus, there's a reason why he joined Battlestar Galactica after turning down Star Trek, and it wasn't because he suddenly came around to starring in a show set in space. He clarified to The A.V. Club that he didn't want to be part of sci-fi in the sense of "four-eyed people, or weird jellyfish people, or weird outer-space people" or "Creature From The Black Lagoon-ish type of people," but was won over by the "writing," the "storytelling," and the "originality of the story itself."

Despite his version of BSG technically being a reboot, the remake is wildly different from the original to the point that I don't think anybody could argue that the 2004 series didn't have plenty of originality. There have also been rumblings of another reboot in recent years, with executive producer Ronald D. Moore having one stipulation. No reboot or sequel has been produced at the time of writing, but at least Katee Sackhoff and Tahmoh Penikett have come around on Battlestar Galactica being the "most important" thing they'd ever do.

I can understand someone having a mild panic attack while watching Mike Flanagan's Oculus. It's a tremendous example of escalating horror, deftly switching back and forth between to separate time periods that respectively see insanity and terror tear at the lives of the protagonists (and it doesn't flinch when it comes to moments of mutilation). As scary as the movie is, however, that ironically had nothing to do with why star Katee Sackhoff had a full-on panic attack of her own while making it. Instead, that emotional incident can be attributed to her taking what she understood as a big step in her career.

Sackoff recently had the opportunity to reflect on her time making what turned out to be Mike Flanagan's breakout film during a recent recording of her podcast The Sackoff Show with guest and fellow Oculus star Kate Siegel. The two actors have a wonderfully honest conversation together about their careers and experiences as mothers, and it opened the door for the host to talk about an emergency room visit she took due to a stint of being overwhelmed. She revealed,

As mentioned, Katee Sackoff plays Marie in Oculus – the mother of pre-teen Kaylie (Annalise Basso) and Tim (Garrett Ryan Ewald) in the film's flashback storyline. Along with her husband Alan (Rory Cochrane), she is slowly driven insane by a haunted mirror called The Lasser Glass. At the time, Sackoff has already earned notoriety in her career playing Kara "Starbuck" Thrace on the remake of Battlestar Galactica, but Mike Flanagan's horror movie was new territory for her, and it apparently freaked her out a bit.

Continuing, she explained that she had a positive time working with the film's writer/director, but there was a particular day on set when she was wearing heavy makeup and the whole experience of making the movie got on top of her:

Apparently, that physical discomfort morphed into more emotional discomfort after the day was done on set. It got to a point where she felt the need to seek medical attention, and there was a member of the on-set transportation team who not only took her to see a doctor but stayed with her through the experience. Said Sackoff,

Between roles like the aforementioned Starbuck on Battlestar Galactica, Vic Moretti on Longmire, and Bo-Katan in the Star Wars universe, Katee Sackoff has a reputation for playing formattable characters, but her honesty about her emotional vulnerability in her conversation with Kate Siegel is really wonderful. Her exact experience isn't something we can all relate to, but it's certainly relatable generally, and it demonstrates the positives of discussing mental health.

She may have been overwhelmed at times making Oculus, but Katee Sackoff does great work in the movie – and it's worth noting that the news broke this week that she is now set to reunite with both Kate Siegel and Mike Flanagan (and more members of the FlanaFamily) for the upcoming Carrie series based on the novel by Stephen King. The Mandalorian Season 3 episode “The Pirate,” which you can revisit with a Disney+ subscription, saw Katee Sackhoff’s Bo-Katan Kryze and the late Carl Weathers’ Greef Karga finally meeting. Bo-Katan, Pedro Pascal’s Din Djarin and the other Mandalorians from the Children of the Watch faction came to Karga’s aid and protected the people of Nevarro from invading pirates. In real life, as this episode of the Star Wars series was being shot, it turns out there was a moment when Weathers called Sackhoff “boring” to her face, though the actress explained why this ended up being a good thing in the long run.

Katee Sackhoff shared this memory while she was speaking with Brendan Wayne, one of the on-set doubles for Din Djarin on The Mandalorian, on The Sackhoff Show. But before you get concerned about Carl Weathers’ comment coming from a mean-spirited place, the Rocky actor only used the descriptor because he wanted Sackhoff to do more with her performance. As she recalled:

The actress who originally voiced Bo-Katan in Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels added that Weathers, who’d been playing Greef Karga since The Mandalorian began in 2019, was referring “movement and the way that your voice moves.” By no means was he calling her boring for her personality, he just wanted her to go the extra mile while performing on set. Katee Sackhoff admitted that at the time, she was operating from the mindset of if there were any problems with her vocals during shooting, it could just be fixed later on during post-production when she came in for ADR.

But Weathers was insistent to Sackhoff that she give him wha he was “going to see in the booth” so that could inform his own performance. She acquiesced to his request, and it ended up improving their professional relationship. As Sackhoff put it:

Sadly, with Carl Weathers passing away on February 2, 2024 at the age of 76, we won’t get to see Greef Karga and Bo-Katan Kryze interact again. Still, for the short time they worked together, I’m glad Katee Sackhoff and Weathers stayed on good terms, with her calling him “behemoth of a man.” I also give props to The Mandalorian creator Jon Favreau for assuring Sackhoff that she is by no means boring. We wouldn’t want that weighing on her mind.

Although it’s unclear if Bo-Katan Kryze will be back in The Mandalorian & Grogu next year, Katee Sackhoff assured ScreenRant last month that we “will see her again in some form.” While we wait for a specific update about that, there are plenty of other upcoming Star Wars movies and TV shows to be excited about.

Back in the late ‘90s/early 2000s, I might have been a little obsessed with Josh Hartnett. Not in an unhealthy way or anything (unless trying to defend Hollywood Homicide indicates otherwise), but let’s just say Blockbuster knew where its copy of The Faculty was. So no one has been happier to see him the past few years making a comeback with Oppenheimer in 2023, Trap last year, and now on the 2025 movie calendar, Fight or Flight.

If you’re unfamiliar with Fight or Flight, you’re not alone. I hadn’t heard much about it or even seen a trailer as it prepares to hit theaters on May 9, so imagine my surprise to see that the upcoming action flick starring Josh Hartnett and Battlestar Galactica vet Katee Sackhoff holds an 88% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes.

What Is Fight Or Flight About?

So what is the premise of Fight or Flight, and why is it flying under the radar? As for the second part of that question, I can’t say for sure, but the synopsis seems to describe a pretty basic action movie. Josh Harnett plays Lucas Reyes, a mercenary tasked (seemingly by Katee Sackhoff’s Katherine Brunt) with identifying and protecting a wanted criminal aboard a commercial flight.

However, upon viewing the trailer, the movie looks anything but basic. There’s comedy, bloody fight sequences and ridiculously impossible action that definitely piques my interest. Check it out for yourself:

Josh Hartnett and Bridgerton’s Charithra Chandran seem to be quite the comedic duo, and my optimism from the trailer is only bolstered by the reviews that have been published ahead of Fight or Flight’s U.S. premiere.

What Are Critics Saying About Fight Or Flight?

What constitutes a critical success in the movie theater — a good story? Big budget? Complex characters? Laughs and sobs in equal measure? I couldn’t tell you if Fight or Flight has any of those, but many critics seem to agree that one thing it does have is fun.

There’s definitely something to be said for that, too, as John Nugent of Empire gives the movie 3 out of 5 stars, calling it “joyfully silly” and saying Josh Hartnett is having a marvelous time playing a bleach-blonde drunkard. Nugent writes:

Nick Schager of The Daily Beast calls it “breezy and cheesy,” and when he describes it as Looney Tunes meets John Wick, Schager is quick to point out he means that as high praise. The critic writes:

Kate Sánchez of But Why Tho says Fight or Flight is an “absolute must-see.” It leans into its B-movie status and Josh Hartnett’s unhinged performance, resulting in a flick that’s a blast from start to finish. Sánchez continues:

I’m not sure how I missed the marketing for this movie, but after seeing what critics are saying and how high its Rotten Tomatoes score is, I’m fully ready to get my Josh Hartnett action hero on. If you’re also enticed by the action comedy, Fight or Flight will be in theaters starting Friday, May 9.

Even though it seems that actors have truly charmed lives, all of the pomp and circumstance that surrounds the profession for those who are at (and at least near) the top of it can hide some real difficulties for those who decide it’s their life’s work. There’s a lot of competition for those jobs, and we’ve heard about things like people being cast as a series regular only to be fired and replaced after they’ve filmed a TV pilot. Well, now Battlestar Galactica vet Katee Sackhoff has talked about the time she saw someone get fired…while on their lunch break!

What Did Katee Sackhoff Say About The Longmire Lunch-Time Firing?

Fans will probably always associate Katee Sackhoff with her time as fighter pilot Captain Kara Thrace, a.k.a. Starbuck, on Syfy’s Battlestar Galactica for four seasons, but after her time fighting Cylons and being (potentially) resurrected in space (don’t get me started), she went on to star on the modern-day western drama, Longmire (which you can watch with your Netflix subscription).

During a recent chat on her podcast, The Sackhoff Show, with Patrick Sabongui, who stars as CIA agent Ryan Hassani on The Hunting Party (which recently wrapped Season 1 on the 2025 TV schedule) the actors got into a discussion about working with and as a guest star on television series. After Sabongui mentioned talent who come in but don’t bother to fully memorize even the scenes they’re in, rather concentrating only on their lines, Sackhoff noted:

WOW. Just think of that. You land a guest role on a popular show like Longmire (which ran for a total of six seasons after being picked up by Netflix for Season 4) and did your job so poorly that while you’re standing in line for your salad, you get pulled aside and told to pack up and go home. As her guest added, this meant that the producers optioned to take the extra time and spend the extra money to reshoot everything the guest actor had done.

Sabongui and Sackhoff talked about some of the difficulties of being an actor, with one being the fact that you can nab a guest part on a TV show and look like a success, but literally be out of work for weeks or months by the time that part has aired. Every gig has its unique ups and downs, but most of us do not have to constantly work really hard just to get another job so we can pay our bills.

That makes it pretty hard to believe that someone wouldn’t take their job seriously enough, and come to set unprepared. It sounds like this happened more than once, though, and as Sabongui noted, Longmire’s producers were serious about “quality control,” which is likely one of the reasons the end product was so good.

When Battlestar Galactica ended in 2009, there was a major question lingering: what was Kara “Starbuck” Thrace? At the start of the dark TV reboot, which can be streamed with a Prime Video subscription, that was an easy enough answer: Katee Sackhoff’s character was a human pilot for the Colonial fleet. But Battlestar’s final season made it abundantly clear she’d become something more, yet never provided a definitive answer for this mystery. Show creator Ronald D. Moore finally opened up about why he left this ending so open ended, while speaking with Sackhoff herself.

It was clear something was amiss in the final moments of the Battlestar Galactica Season 3 finale when Kara, who was thought to have died in “Maelstrom,” suddenly reemerged in a brand-new Viper and knew the location of Earth (the first one). But then in Season 4’s “Sometimes a Great Notion,” Kara discovered her own corpse on the planet where the Thirteenth Tribe once resided. During his visit to The Sackhoff Show, Moore talked about how they’d planted the seeds for Kara to have a greater destiny through her interactions with Leoben, as well as how the “concept of God” was baked into the show stretching back to when it launched with the miniseries. He then explained:

While Head Six and Head Baltar were eventually revealed to be angels sent by God, the Starbuck we followed along with in Season 4 was apparently something else entirely, yet undefinable. Somehow she was a corporeal being, and yet there was her body in the Viper wreckage on that radioactive landscape. Things got even weirder when Kara learned how to play “All Along the Watchtower,” the same song that Tory, Anders, Tigh and Tyrol heard in their heads when they discovered they were four of the Final Five. Oh, and let’s not forget how she just disappeared while talking with Lee Adama on our Earth.

And yet, whatever explanation Ronald D. Moore and the writers came up with just wasn’t good enough in their minds. So instead, they decided to just leave it unresolved, which made him think of one of HBO’s most popular shows while he was talking with Katie Sackhoff. In his words:

When Sackhoff further questioned Moore on if it’s the ambiguity that’s been unsatisfying for these people more than a decade and a half after the three-part “Daybreak” aired, he acknowledged that’s probably the case, which is why the actress is asked by Battlestar fans so frequently about this topic. As he put it:

Moore added that ultimately, he still feels “glad” that he didn’t provide a definitive answer, noting that he likes the moment when Kara disappears on Lee. So while Battlestar Galactica will continue to collect fans and draw old ones back to rewatch the series, don’t ever expect an answer to the mystery of Kara Thrace’s existence in Season 4. That’s something you’ll just have to craft your own head canon for or leave it alone.

As of last July, Peacock axed its plans to launch a new Battlestar Galactica series set in the same continuity as the 2004 series. There’s also been a Battlestar Galactica movie in development that, as of 2020, was being written by Simon Kinberg, but there’s been no update on its status for a long time. As for Ronald D. Moore, you can see his writing skills being put to good use on Outlander and For All Mankind, which can be respectively streamed on Starz and with an Apple TV+ subscription.

Star Trek has been around for decades, and it takes a lot of people to fill a ship. As such, there's no shortage of actors who have joined its ranks over the years, but even in 2025, there are still some who haven't. With upcoming Trek shows on the horizon, I had to highlight some of the prominent names in sci-fi who I would love to see join Starfleet or some other role in this galaxy.

Whether it's joining a full-length series or just popping around for a one-off movie, these actors would be perfect for Star Trek. Frankly, some of them have done so much sci-fi in their careers that I'm shocked it hasn't happened already. All that being said, let's jump on my picks and go over where I'd best see them fitting into the franchise when it comes to roles.

Gillian Anderson

Had Bryan Fuller remained the showrunner of Star Trek: Discovery, this could've happened already. The creative revealed on the D-Con Chamber that Gillian Anderson was planned to play a Starfleet Captain, though her exact role in the series was not defined. It is ironic that the person paired with David Duchovny to play the paranormal skeptic in The X-Files could've been someone who regularly interacted with aliens in Star Trek.

I don't think there's any denying Anderson would be the perfect fit for a Starfleet Captain or some other high-ranking official in the organization. I would say she has "Janeway energy," so it's easier to see her in that captain role because someone has previously paved the way with a character I could've easily seen her playing as well. Will it ever happen? I want to believe.

Rosario Dawson

After playing Ahsoka Tano in Star Wars and nurse Claire Temple in Netflix's Marvel shows, it only seems fitting that Rosario Dawson jumps to Star Trek next. In fact, the actress said years ago she's a fan and would love to be a part of the franchise, initially proposing that she play a background character just to be included in the fun and complete a lifelong dream. Of course, she's a big deal in Hollywood, and I doubt the franchise would toss her in rather than offer her an actual role.

Dawson's father suggested she play a Q, and I'm 100% on board with that idea. I think linking her to Starfleet is just too obvious of an option, and we could use more Q characters in the franchise to inject additional chaos into the shows every so often.

Alan Tudyk

Alan Tudyk isn't just a sci-fi actor; I would say a vast majority of the work in his career has come from the genre. He was burned on the set of Rogue One and was on the cast of Firefly, one of the most iconic canceled sci- fi shows. Frankly, I'm shocked he's never done anything with Star Trek, and I think it's high time that change.

The best thing about Tudyk is that he's just as iconic as a voice actor as he is in live-action. That makes him a perfect fit for any species of the week that Star Trek: Strange New Worlds could use, corporeal or otherwise. For some reason, I see him playing a Medusan, but I can't explain why that sounds so perfect.

Elliot Page

Elliot Page hasn't been as active in Hollywood as in years past, but maybe it's because the right role hasn't come along. There's ample opportunity for the actor to make a comeback in the Star Trek franchise and an audience pre-dispositioned and ready to embrace the latest chapter in his life.

I also feel like Page just naturally has the look of someone suited to be a Vulcan or Romulan. Much like James Frain was the perfect fit for Sarek, I see Page taking on the role of a Vulcan leader or maybe a tough Romulan ready to take down the Federation with some brilliant scheme. In truth, I just want to see Page doing big things in Hollywood again, and I could think of no better fandom to welcome him into than the Star Trek universe.

John Boyega

There's a part of me that thinks John Boyega referring to his time in Star Wars as "franchise jail" means he won't readily do another sci-fi franchise again. Still, if there was a shortlist of actors in Hollywood, I would say are the best fit to bring back Star Trek movies, he'd be the star I'd want to prop up the franchise with.

As a franchise lead, he'd almost certainly have to be a Starfleet Captain. Sure, I'm all for the idea that anyone can be the lead of a Star Trek adventure, but he spent his time in Star Wars largely playing second banana to a larger story. It's high time we make John Boyega a leading man in sci-fi, and Trek would welcome him with open arms if he's willing to give it another try.

Domhnall Gleeson

I know I used the picture of him as Hux, but truthfully, I'd want more of the Domhnall Gleeson who appeared in Ex Machina for a Star Trek movie. Let's be honest, there's no shortage of Gleeson performances in movies that showcase his strengths as an actor, and they all make for a candidate that Starfleet would want among its highest ranks.

The problem is that Domhnall Gleeson is just so damn captivating as a villain. It would be a shame to have him in Star Trek and not play one of the most dastardly antagonists any of the quadrants have ever seen. I'm talking about something way worse than any of the most dangerous villains of The Next Generation, maybe even worse than Deep Space Nine's Dukat. He's capable of it, we just need someone over at Paramount to give him a shot and let him cook.

Katee Sackhoff

Katee Sackhoff has been a big name in the science fiction world for a while, really exploding onto the scene in Battlestar Galactica. Decades later, she's played Bo-Katan Kryze in The Mandalorian and talked about shifting over to Star Trek. Jonathan Frakes suggested she join Starfleet Academy, and I 100% sign off on that idea.

It may not be the best time to bring up Section 31 after critics were unkind in their reviews of the recent movie, but is there any person more suited for the morally gray faction? I could see Sackhoff steering the fandom back to being on board with Section 31, and if she can be paired up with Michelle Yeoh for a potential sequel to the movie, that's even better.

These are just a few names that I'd be thrilled to see involved with Star Trek as the franchise presses onward into the future. Those looking to keep tabs on everything on the way should pick up Paramount+ and catch up on some of the fantastic shows from the past few years.

Katee Sackhoff worked for years to get in shape after her stint as resident badass Starbuck on Battlestar Galactica, and she showed off the results of her hard work in the gym (and in the ice bath) this week with a truly artsy photoshoot. Of course, her sci-fi fanbase had a lot of thoughts, but her celebrity pals and acquaintances came out to comment on her vigorous new post, too.

The artsy photo shows Sackhoff mooning the camera, thus her “full moon tonight” caption, and I love how it highlights her cool side tattoo, which I’ve always thought was awesome body art. (If you haven't seen it before, it reads “You are not here by chance.”)

Sackhoff has spent a good chunk of her career appearing in great sci-fi projects, including Battlestar Galactica, varying Star Wars projects, Another Life, the Riddick franchise, and even a memorable bathtub cameo on The Big Bang Theory. So, of course a lot of the comments on the post were from fans who come from that devoted fanbase, with many, many of them using “this is the way” as there take on the post. Sackhoff is someone who is mostly known for playing varying badasses on TV, and I really enjoy when she gets to do something fun and flirty. She's also in a Hallmark movie that's quite enjoyable if you want to see her doing something else that's quite different from what we typically see her doing. It's called Christmas Sail, and you can stream it with a Hulu subscription.

Katee Sackhoff is an actress who knows her way around genre material, most notably from having played Kara “Starbuck” Thrace in Battlestar Galactica and her continuing gig as Bo-Katan Kryze in The Mandalorian and other Star Wars projects. It’s impressive enough that she’s appeared in two of the best sci-fi TV shows available to stream now, but Sackhoff isn’t content with leaving her mark on just those franchises in the genre. She also wants to snag a Star Trek role and luckily for her, Jonathan Frakes of The Next Generation fame has a great idea about who she could play in one of the upcoming Trek TV shows that will be streamable with a Paramount+ subscription.

Sackhoff spoke with Frakes, who starred as William Riker in Star Trek: The Next Generation, on her podcast The Sackhoff Show, towards the end of their conversation, she asked him what she has to do to “be in Star Trek,” because she needs a “hat trick.” Sackhoff speculated that the reason she’s never had the opportunity to audition for a Trek project is because those in charge of casting might feel it’d be “too on the nose” to hire her given her past sci-fi roles, but Frakes came up with the below idea on how she could finally accomplish this goal:

In addition to his many appearances as William Riker over the decades, most recently in Picard Season 3, Jonathan Frakes is an accomplished director who’s helmed two Star Trek movies and numerous episodes of the franchise’s TV shows. So not only is it a likely bet that he’ll be brought on to direct an episode of Starfleet Academy, if not several, this also puts him in a pretty good position to pitch Katee Sackhoff for this guest instructor role she’s envisioned. I can only hope he actually does this rather than just mentioned this idea as fun conversation, because it’d be amazing for Sackhoff to take part in Starfleet Academy as an instructor, whether it’s as a character giving off Starbuck vibes or someone who has nothing to do with teaching the art of flying in space.

Taking place in the 32nd century after the events of Star Trek: Discovery, Starfleet Academy will follow the first class of Starfleet cadets in over a century who are training to be officers. In addition to Tig Notaro, Mary Wiseman and Oded Fehr reprising their respective Discovery characters, as well as Robert Picardo coming back as The Doctor from Voyager, the Starfleet Academy cast includes established talent like Holly Hunter, Paul Giamatti, Gina Yashere and Tatiana Maslany. While Katee Sackhoff’s primary sci-fi allegiance these days remains with Star Wars these days, she clearly wouldn’t turn down the opportunity for a one-off Star Trek appearance. My fingers are crossed that Jonathan Frakes can arrange this, as Sackhoff would be a welcome addition to this lineup of talent.

Starfleet Academy is expected to debut sometime on the 2025 TV schedule, so stay tuned to CinemaBlend for updates on its progress. The final season of Lower Decks is next on the Star Trek programming slate, followed by the Section 31 movie dropping in January.

Spoilers ahead for Episode 3 of Law & Order Season 24, called "Big Brother."

Law & Order packed a lot into the first two episodes of the fall 2024 TV schedule, including introducing Maura Tierney as the new lieutenant and bringing Mariska Hargitay over from Law & Order: SVU for a crossover. The third episode of the season, called "Big Brother," delivered something that I at least have been waiting for: New Amsterdam alum Ryan Eggold as Riley's brother Matt. Eggold's casting was announced back in August; what I didn't know was coming was a guest appearance from none other than Katee Sackhoff as well, and it was the best kind of surprise.

Despite the fact that Katee Sackhoff is a pretty big name in the realm of sci-fi thanks largely to Star Wars and Battlestar Galactica, Law & Order didn't promote her appearance in the same promos that were hyping Ryan Eggold. That's somewhat understandable, as she was playing a defense attorney rather than a major character like Eggold as Riley's brother, so hyping her role might have really come across as over-hype. Plus, it was a fun discovery when I spotted this in the first few minutes of the episode:

In the episode, Ryan Eggold's and Katee Sackhoff's characters were more or less on the same side, even if the former was playing somebody much more pivotal than the latter. Matt had information that could put a killer behind bars, but Sackhoff's defense attorney was facing off against Nolan to try and keep that from happening. Matt ultimately changed his mind about snitching, which could have made him a big problem for Nolan closing the cast.

He did ultimately get the guilty verdict, and Riley realized that he needed to hold his brother accountable after a conversation with Shaw that really showed off what Mehcad Brooks told us about the partners' dynamic. If Matt ends up behind bars, I have to wonder if we'll see him again in another Riley-centric episode. It was nice to see Ryan Eggold back on NBC, and his accent as Matt alone was proof that he can play characters who are very different from New Amsterdam's Dr. Max Goodwin.

It's easier to imagine a scenario for Katee Sackhoff to drop in and out from time to time. The Law & Order universe obviously delivers a lot of courtroom drama, which requires a defense lawyer to go up against the ADA of the week. Perhaps Sackhoff could turn up every once in a while.

Sackhoff is largely known for her work in genre projects, ranging from live-action work in The Mandalorian to Battlestar Galactica to The Flash, plus voice roles in projects like Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Batman: The Long Halloween, and Watchmen: Chapter 1 as Silk Spectre. She can also join the ranks of Law & Order stars who played more than one character after a relatively rare non-sci-fi appearance in L&O Season 19.

While superhero fiction can be a wonderful form of escapist art, at the end of the day, it is the grounded stories and characters we can relate to that appeal to fans like me the most. This is something Katee Sackhoff understands and tries to implement in all of her roles, and the latest proof of that can be seen in her performance as Silk Spectre in Watchmen: Chapter I.

The new DC movie — now available on Digital — is the latest adaptation of the groundbreaking 1986 graphic novel written by Alan Moore and illustrated by Dave Gibbons which follows the lives of (mostly) retired superheroes years after their services have been banned. Unlike Zack Snyder’s live-action adaptation — which took some liberties with the Watchmen ending, having condensed the full story into roughly three hours — director Brandon Vietti’s animated feature only traces the first half of the comic in 83 minutes.

The arc of the second Silk Spectre, whose real name is Laurie Juspeczyk, is a pivotal plotline focused on in the film. It sees her begin to feel a disconnect in her relationship with her atomic boyfriend, Jon “Doctor Manhattan” Osterman (Michael Cerveris).

Laurie’s one-sided love story was one of the most essential reasons why Sackhoff — best known as Starbuck in Syfy's Battlestar Galactica cast and The Mandalorian’s Bo-Katan Kryze, more recently — was excited to be a part of this new animated Watchmen adaptation. She told me about her process for getting into character and why she felt a certain kinship and modern relevance in this particular role:

Silk Spectre is only the latest DC character the Geek Goddess has portrayed, such as voicing Poison Ivy in Batman: The Long Halloween and Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths - Part Three, or when she put on an English accent to play Amuent Black on The CW’s The Flash. In fact, many of Sackhoff’s best performances see her adopt a new voice to keep the character distinct.

However, when you hear Sackhoff as Laurie in Watchmen: Chapter I, you are hearing the actor in her most genuine form. She further discussed this was unusual choice for her career with me in the following quote:

It is refreshing to see a voice actor feel so close to her role that she can, essentially, be herself when portraying her. This is especially so when you consider how Malin Akerman struggled with playing Silk Spectre in the 2009 feature.

Sackhoff is actually one of the few Watchmen: Chapter I cast members keeping things natural, as the Welsh Matthew Rhys dons an American accent to play Dan “Nite Owl” Dreiberg and Titus Welliver (who previously played Lex Luthor in Titans) puts on some gravel to portray Walter “Rorschach” Kovacs. To play Adrian "Ozymandias" Veidt, the talented Troy Baker — also one of the best Batman voice actors of his time — makes only a few subtle, but distinct changes to his own voice.

From Warner Bros. Animation, Watchmen: Chapter I is rated R and is available to own on digital, but is coming to Blu-ray and 4K on August 27. For a long time, setting a tub by a big picture window gave bath lovers a chance to relax and soak in views, but thanks to a new celebrity trend, some baths are shifting away from the inside altogether. Now, Battlestar Galactica and The Mandalorian’s Katee Sackhoff is the latest to jump on the outdoor bath trend, and she’s cold as ice doing it. 

No literally. While celebrities such as Hayley Atwell have enjoyed an outdoor bath on their recent adventures, Katee Sackhoff’s goal was to have a cold plunge built for her new home so she could enjoy it anytime she wants. It makes a lot of sense to me, as Sackhoff is an action star, she’s specifically spoken out about the work it takes to stay in sci-fi shape, and she’s on the move as a mom a lot. Having that cold plunge downtime is likely crucial to being able to do all she does. 

It takes quite the steely disposition to jump into cold water like this, as celebrities like Kim Kardashian have realized in the past. (Seriously there's footage of her freaking out in an ice bath.)  In fact, I’d argue it’s less relaxing and more about enduring the experience, but regardless the cooler temps and the ice bath have become a big celebrity trend over the past few years. 

In Sackhoff’s case she said that she and her husband Robin Gadsby also opted to build in a sauna, and she said the decision was made for her “mom sanity and health.” Given the actress is an actress and mama who has spoken about the challenges of working and traveling with a child in tow, this whole thing checks out. It can be hard to carry through with a career at the same time as raising a family, and if a cold bath helps her keep her “sanity” and she has the means to do it, I think it’s a great idea. 

She’s obviously not the only celebrity who has touted the benefits of a cold bath. Michael B. Jordan's talked about the ice bath being a key component of his workout routine when he's gotten in shape for roles as varied as Creed and Black Panther. And plenty of other athletes and celebrities have given it a whirl, as Harry Styles, Gwyneth Paltrow, Lady Gaga and many more have all touted the benefits. 

Honestly, what better way to combine two trends: the cold plunge with the outdoor bath? It's a genius idea, and I kind of wish I'd thought of it myself. Although I honestly don't know if I'd have the endurance to do it on the regular. I don't think anyone would argue I'm as brave or confident as Bo-Katan. 

Just days after Ronald D. Moore himself weighed in on Peacock’s Battlestar Galactica reboot from creator Sam Esmail, some bad news broke about the project: the NBCUniversal streamer is no longer moving forward with the science fiction series. This may not seem like the biggest shocker in TV history after relatively few updates over the years since the project was first announced in 2019, but with how passionate of a fanbase there is for the 2004 version of the series, I feel like any show under the BSG banner could have at least started strong.

Read on for the details of the new Battlestar getting the axe as well as why the news started flashing me back to my favorite episode of the 2004 series with Katee Sackhoff as Kara “Starbuck” Thrace.

What Happened To Peacock’s Battlestar Galactica Reboot

The update that the new take on Battlestar Galactica is no longer happening comes courtesy of Variety, but production company Universal Content Productions is reportedly looking to shop the series around to find a home elsewhere than Peacock. No details are currently available about what that will entail and which platforms are being targeted, but Netflix has rescued genre shows before like Manifest and Lucifer. I could see a home for Battlestar Galactica there. Then again, BSG is currently available streaming with Amazon Prime Video subscriptions.

The reboot was said to take place within the same continuity as Ronald D. Moore’s 2004 take on BSG, which itself was a reboot of the original series from the late ‘70s, but stars from the Sci-Fi series weren’t expected to be part of the cast. Still, Peacock’s Battlestar getting cancelled before it’s even produced reminds me of my favorite episode from Moore’s era that proved Battlestar doesn’t have to stick to a familiar format to create something great, and that could have been true for streamers with Peacock Premium subscriptions as well.

My Favorite Episode Of Battlestar Galactica: “Unfinished Business”

From what I’ve heard from other BSG fans, the Season 3 episode “Unfinished Business” is far from a universal favorite, and it truly is a departure from the show’s usual format. As the members of the crew blew off steam by fighting each other in a ring – and fighting dirty, in the case of Starbuck vs. Apollo – the episode took viewers through a series of flashbacks that finally answered some big questions.

The focus was much more on character than plot, and I’m sure that anybody who despises the Lee/Kara pairing would happily skip this episode in a rewatch, but I appreciated seeing all the messiness play out on screen with some strong performances from Katee Sackhoff and Jamie Bamber, among others. Plus, Bear McCreary was in fine form in “Unfinished Business,” with the song “Violence and Variations” ranking as one of his best of the series in my estimation. (Seriously, check it out.)

This was an atypical episode of Battlestar Galactica that arguably was barely even science fiction, but the emphasis on character was fantastic for me and really set the stage for how Starbuck and Apollo would somehow manage to get even messier in the coming episodes.

And dang it, if the 2004 version of Battlestar Galactica could produce something so great and so different by pushing its own boundaries, I would have loved to see what Sam Esmail and a whole new team could do with the world of BSG that was built by Ron Moore and his crew in the early aughts.

Of course, it is still possible that this new version of Battlestar Galactica will be produced, depending on whether or not UCP is successful in shopping it around. For now, you can always revisit the 2004 version of BSG streaming on Amazon Prime Video, including the excellent "Unfinished Business" as Episode 8 of Season 3. I adore when fan-favorite actors known for one fictional franchise take on iconic roles within other beloved universes, with Katee Sackhoff being a prime example of someone who regularly takes on playing beloved characters. Some of Sackhoff’s best performances are within the worlds of Star Wars, Battlestar Galactica, and DC Comics, and it’s the latter she returned to for one of the most exciting superhero projects of 2024: WB’s animated and R-rated Watchmen adaptation.

That’s right, one of sci-fi television’s most celebrated heroines will now take on a hugely popular character in the first full-length animated iteration of arguably the greatest complete work in comic book history. Though casting news was initially non-existent regarding Warner Bros. Animation’s highly anticipated new feature — or pair of features, to be more accurate — the release of the striking first trailer unearthed the full lineup of actors bringing their voices to the iconic characters created by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons.

But now we know Katee Sackhoff will be lending her recognizable vocal chops to the role of Laurie Juspeczyk / Jupiter, the second generation to take on the vigilante persona of Silk Spectre. Laurie is one of the most important catalyst characters in the story, largely for Doctor Manhattan’s story, but also where The Comedian is concerned.

Sackhoff is definitely one highlight within the cast of Watchmen: Chapter 1, but is by no means the only highlight. That lineup also includes Titus Welliver as Rorschach, Matthew Rhys as Nite Owl, Troy Baker as Ozymandias, Adrienne Barbeau as Silk Spectre I, Jeffrey Combs as Moloch, Rick D. Wasserman as The Comedian, and quite a few other big talents.

Silk Spectre II marks the DC role that Sackhoff has portrayed in her career, both for animated and live-action projects. Her first was voicing Dectective Essen in 2011's Batman: Year One adaptation, followed by taking on the arguably problematic accent for The Flash villain Amunet Black, and then embodying the animated take on Poison Ivy for the two-part feature Batman: The Long Halloween. Having voiced her desire to play a live-action Poison Ivy, Sackhoff will be reprising the alluring villainous role for the upcoming final chapter Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths, Part Three.

Star Wars fans will hopefully be seeing Katee Sackhoff back as Bo-Katan, whether it's leading her own Mandalorian spinoff or as part of the upcoming Mandalorian and Grogu crossover feature that's on the way. Of course, BSG fans are also hopeful that she'll have some kind of role to play in the long-gestating Battlestar quasi-reboot for Peacock, though it remains to be seen whether that project will come to fruition or not.

Only the first half of this expansive tale will be part of the 2024 movie release schedule, as Watchmen: Chapter 1 will be streaming via digital release on August 13, with physical releases hitting shelves on August 27. Unless someone secretly released it 35 minutes ago...

This past Mother’s Day, we all got to celebrate our moms, and learned that if you love her, you should take your mom to Disneyland. The family of The Mandalorian star Katee Sackhoff learned this lesson well, as that’s where she spent the day with her family. Which, of course, brought out all the Star Wars fans since we assume she spent some time at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge

Sackhoff posted an image to Instagram showing herself with her husband and daughter in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle. Everybody is all smiles and looking wonderful. Sackhoff calls the day the “perfect Mother’s Day,” and honestly, it sounds perfect to me.

Celebrities visiting Disneyland are a common occurrence. Famous people love the parks as much as the rest of us. Of course, for Sackhoff, things can get even more personal, as she can walk into Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and actually run into The Mandalorian and Grogu, as well as Ahsoka Tano, characters she "knows" quite well. It’s unclear if that happened, but several comments on the post came from Star Wars (and Battlestar Galactica) fans with comments like…

• "Should go to the Star Wars part of the park and dress up as Bo Katan" - sith.stat
• "Do you just walk into Galaxy’s Edge and claim your throne and dominance?" - brian85b

Thinking about it, I realize there is one thing that is seriously missing at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, and that’s Bo-Batan Kryze as a face character. Several characters from the Star Wars Disney+ series have been added to Galaxy’s Edge. The Mandalorian and Grogu are there, Ahsoka Tano is there, and Boba Fett and Fennec Shand are there. But so far Bo-Katan has not been added, and that should probably change.

Bo-Katan is a major character in modern Star Wars. She was first introduced in an animated form in Star Wars: The Clone Wars and has since made the jump to live action. When Ahsoka and Sabine Wren did that, they got to be characters in the parks. Justice for Bo-Katan!

Perhaps she could be added when The Mandalorian & Grogu opens in theaters. While we don’t know for certain that Katee Sackhoff will be appearing in the film, the Mandalorian & Grogu details we have are pretty limited at this point. It certainly seems likely that some of the recurring characters from the series, outside of the title characters, will appear. We’re used to seeing new characters added to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland when new series come out.

It’s virtually guaranteed that the movie, currently slated to be the first of several upcoming Star Wars movies, will result in at least one new theme park character. But honestly, Bo-Katan doesn’t need to wait. She should be added to Galaxy’s Edge now!

The Predator series (which we've ranked) has had its fair share of not-so-good sequels and follow-up movies. However, that all changed with 2022’s prequel, Prey. The franchise received an electrifying boost from Dan Trachtenberg’s reimagining, which was initially exclusive to folks with a Hulu subscription. Set in the early 1700s and starring Amber Midthunder, it won critical praise, even earning 4 out of 5 stars from CinemaBlend. The good news is that the next Predator movie is already in development with the same team and is rumored to focus on another female action character. The Mandalorion’s Katee Sackhoff has expressed her interest in being a part of it, and personally, I need this to happen.

The Battlestar Galactica alum took to X (formerly Twitter) to share a report on the upcoming movie, which read, “BADLANDS’ will be a Predator film set in the future with a female lead.” The actress has a pretty good idea of who is uniquely qualified to go head to head with everyone’s favorite horror movie alien baddy, captioning her post:

Katee Sackhoff knows a thing or two about playing one of the best female action characters, seeing as how she has been providing the voice for Star Wars fan-favorite character Bo-Katan Kryze on both The Clone Wars and Rebels before jumping over into live-action to portray the character on The Mandalorian. She has also had experience within the world of superheroes. She famously suited up for The CW’s The Flash as Amunet Black, a metahuman crime boss. 

And, of course, she famously starred as Kara "Starbuck" Thrace across four seasons of 2004’s Battlestar Galactica revamp. So, needless to say, she's more than qualified to square up against the human-hunting Yautja. So let’s go, Hulu, sign her up!

Dan Trachtenberg, who made a smashing entrance into directing with 10 Cloverfield Lane in 2016 — a film I rank as one of the best horror flicks in the last two decades — will be retaking the helm as writer and director for the next chapter in the Predator series, aptly named Badlands. Trachtenberg is set to dive deeper this time, having previously shared story credits with Patrick Aison on Prey, with Aison handling the entire script. It's been reported that the upcoming flick is top of the list in terms of priorities for 20th Century Studios, with Trachtenberg and his team already scouting for lead actors. Fingers crossed, Katee Sackhoff's tweet lands her an audition!

Interestingly, reports also indicated that Badlands hitting the development track doesn't spell the end for Prey 2. Word on the street is that a sequel is still brewing, with Amber Midthunder possibly returning as the lead. But the other movie seems to be taking priority. And with Trachtenberg helming the new flick, don't be shocked if Midthunder's sequel ends up with a new director steering its course, assuming it gets the official go-ahead. 

Who knows, more Predator movies could mean more opportunities for Katee Sackhoff to join the franchise.  I’m not sure how she would fit into the 1700s settings of the first Prey but, any chance to get Sackhoff into this fictional universe would much appreciated.

Back in 2017, a few years ahead of her getting to play Bo-Katan Kryze in The Mandalorian after having previously voiced the character in Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels, Katee Sackhoff kicked off her stint on The CW’s The Flash as Amunet Black, a metahuman crime boss. The Battlestar Galactica alum recurred across Season 4, and along with her unique ability to magnetically manipulate anything made of alnico alloy, the character was notable for her ridiculously exaggerated English accent. Well, Sackhoff has revealed she got some pushback over her accent while working on the DC TV show, which left her feeling “terrified.”

The actress reflected on her experience working on The Flash in an episode of the Blah Blah Blah with Katee Sackoff podcast while interviewing Danielle Panabaker, who appeared on the show for the entirety of its run playing Caitlin Snow, Frost and Khione. When Panabaker mentioned that Season 4 was “challenging” for everyone on The Flash because a showrunner she didn’t name was “let go”  roughly halfway through the season (she was referring to Andrew Kreisberg, who was fired following a sexual harassment investigation), Sackhoff mentioned that this impacted too, saying:

Danielle Panabaker then noted how Katee Sackhoff’s experience was an example of how there was a “disconnect” between The Flash’s writers room and “everyone in LA,” i.e. the studio and the network, and what was actually getting communicated to them “on the ground in Vancouver.” She believes The Flash would have benefitted from having an executive producer acting like “a leader” who spearheaded setting a tone. This also would have allowed the cast and crew to avoid incidents like what Sackhoff went through, where there was clearly a breakdown in communication over what was expected from her.

Fortunately for Katee Sackhoff, there wasn’t any further pushback over her playing Amunet Black with an English accent, and when she asked Danielle Panabaker if that performance choice made her ask “What the fuck is she doing?”, Panabaker said no because a show like that lent itself to people coming in to play “ridiculous” characters. In her mind, The Flash benefitted from this and allowed the series regulars to be “really grounded.” Following Season 4, Sackhoff only reprised Amunet Black once, in the Season 6 episode “Love is a Battlefield,” and for some reason she was not asked back for the final season. However, the character was mentioned a handful of other times, usually in reference to her relationship with Damon Poitier’s Goldface.

As for Katee Sackhoff, you’ll need a Disney+ subscription to see what The Mandalorian Season 3 put Bo-Katan through, and it remains to be seen if she’ll appear in the recently-announced movie The Mandalorian & Grogu.

There’s an old saying that states you should never meet your heroes, as conventional wisdom has suggested it’s one of the most upsetting moments a fan can experience. However, like any good adage worth its salt, that phrase has been dismantled and disproven quite a bit. With that in mind, I love how excited Battlestar Galactica’s Katee Sackhoff was to meet sci-fi movie icon Linda Hamilton, and how far it goes to proving why you should meet your heroes. 

Sackhoff herself enthusiastically agreed with that point, in a heartfelt social media post showing off this beautiful photo. Take a look at that time Sarah Connor met Starbuck at the FanExpo New Orleans convention, along with Katee Sackhoff’s sweet message explaining why this is so awesome, below: 

Seriously, how does one not derive joy from those times Katee Sackhoff’s inner “frakking weirdo” gets to shine? Watching her hang out on convention floors and making Mandalorian puns while hanging out in a DeLorean is just one of the qualities that makes Sackhoff so much fun to follow. And now that she’s met Linda Hamilton, that happiness has only seemed to grow. 

Even Sackhoff's hashtag, “#musclesarebeautiful,” is a beautiful tribute to the inspiration that Hamilton’s Terminator 2 performance gave her as a child. That only makes the story about that time Linda Hamilton surprised Arnold Schwarzenegger with her muscles at the beginning of shooting James Cameron’s legendary film all the more rewarding.

Katee Sackhoff's post also mentions Sigourney Weaver's Ellen Ripley; as for whether or not she would ever be able to work with either of her idols, there’s still a chance it could happen. With Weaver still active in the Avatar franchise, and Hamilton cast in Stranger Things Season 5, both icons are still making a name for themselves in pop culture. 

All that has to happen is for the right project to come along, and for the representatives of Katee Sackhoff, Linda Hamilton, and Sigourney Weaver to get together to land the deal. Katee’s pure joy in meeting Linda feels like proof that this absolutely needs to happen. Sarah Connor and Kyle Reese were right to teach us all that there's no fate but what we make for ourselves! Provided, of course, scheduling and other considerations align to allow fate the easiest window of opportunity to seize.

In the meantime, you’re probably hoping to do what Katee Sackhoff may have done after meeting Linda Hamilton, which is watch Terminator 2: Judgement Day all over again. There are a wide variety of ways to celebrate the dawn of a new year. A lot of people like to get gussied up in fancy duds, put on silly glasses styled like the coming year and dance/drink the night away. Some of us stay home to watch the ball drop and write fanfic about one TV host snubbing another during their separate New Year’s Eve broadcasts. But, I can bet most celebrants don’t think of ringing in the new year like Battlestar Galactica alum Katee Sackhoff, who wished fans happy new year from a “frakin weirdo” in the best way.

How Did Katee Sackhoff Wish Battlestar Galactica Fans Happy New Year?

Those who follow The Mandalorian star Katee Sackhoff on Instagram will know that the DCU Poison Ivy wannabe is a sporty and very outdoorsy lass, and she helped her followers get their 2024 on by posting a very apropos Happy New Year clip. Observe:

Well, well, well! Leave it to the Kara “Starbuck” Thrace/Bo-Katan Kryze actress to find a cool way to merge the Battlestar Galactica and Star Wars fandoms, right? While calling herself a “frakin weirdo” is an obvious shoutout to fans of that old, still very much beloved, sci-fi series, the clip itself gives a nod to both her ‘let's get out in nature’ nature and fans who adore watching her not get romantic with Din Djarin on The Mandalorian. I’m not even sure if she was purposely attempting to goofily mimic the Tusken Raider who attacked Luke Skywalker in A New Hope, but she sure did a good job of it. Sackhoff’s new “walking stick” will even be a dead ringer for his gaderffii stick when she files one end to a lethal point. But, I digress…

When she isn’t hosting a podcast that reunites her with Six actress Tricia Helfer or shooting down rumors about taking over as the lead of one of the top Disney+ Star Wars shows, the mom to little Ginevra Gadsby (whom she shares with husband Robin Gadsby) has been spending a lot of time fixing up her home in Oregon. This includes lots of yard work that has led the Another Life star to showing off more than one shot of her covered in mud before, during, or after said physical labor, something she says the couple really does “love” to do.

Even if you, somehow, aren’t a member of one of the fandoms that Sackhoff’s characters are adored by, it’s hard not to like someone who chooses to show their silly side on social media. Now, if we could just get even more sweet throwback photos of her with her BSG family, it would be even better.

Ahsoka – the latest Star Wars show that’s available for Disney+ subscribers – featured a wide array of notable characters that are familiar to fans. However, there were a few familiar faces from its parent show, The Mandalorian, who weren’t included in the adventure. Katee Sackhoff’s Bo-Katan Kryze was one such character that remained on the sidelines. Those who are very well versed in the franchise likely know that Bo-Katan has had dealings with Ahsoka Tano and more in the animated shows, but will they cross paths again in the live-action series? Well, Sackhoff has now shared her take. 

Having been a part of the George Lucas-created IP for over a decade now, Katee Sackhoff is knowledgeable of its lore. And of course, she’s quite familiar with the major events that link Bo-Katan and Ahsoka. Fans are surely eager to see Sackhoff’s Kryze cross paths with Rosario Dawson’s Tano at some point in a live-action setting. On that note, Sackhoff was asked about that very possibility. Her response indicates that she doesn’t know what’s set to happen down the road, but the sentiments she shared were optimistic: 

Both characters were introduced in Star Wars: The Clone Wars and had their share of run-ins after Bo-Katan was introduced in Season 4. The two got off to a rough start when they first met, during which Kryze was a member of the Death Watch terrorist group and then-padawan Ahsoka was protecting a senator’s son. Their most notable joint appearance, though, is arguably that show’s series finale, which depicted the Siege of Mandalore. Considering the connections they have, it would certainly make sense for them to meet up again at some point. 

Another key character that Kryze knows well is fellow Mandalorian Sabine Wren, who she met on Star Wars Rebels. During one particular episode, Wren gave Bo the Darksaber, which effectively allowed her to become ruler of Mandalore. During her interview with The Direct, Katee Sackhoff further discussed her character’s links to the Jedi and Mandalorians and weighed in on how the heroine could impact both parties now:

The future remains unclear for the ex-royal, at this point. However, it’d be very surprising if franchise EP Dave Filoni didn’t use Bo in any capacity moving forward, especially since she’s now the leader of Mandalore again, following the events of The Mandalorian Season 3. While fans may be able to expect further appearances from the skilled warrior, there are other elements that should hold their breath on. For instance, Katee Sackhoff doesn’t believe Bo-Katan will replace Din Djarin as the lead of the aforementioned show. She also doesn’t think Din and Kryze will get romantically involved anytime soon.

Whatever the case, I just hope that fans get to see the Battlestar Galactica icon suit up as Bo-Katan again for at least one of the upcoming Star Wars TV shows. It makes all the sense in the world to have her appear alongside Ahsoka, Sabine and even other members of the Ghost crew from Rebels. We’ll just have to wait and see what Dave Filoni and co. have planned. 

One of the biggest titles on the 2023 TV schedule, the first season of Ahsoka can still be streamed and is one of the best shows on Disney+ at the moment.

You’d be hard-pressed to find a fanbase revolving around a movie or TV show that doesn’t have shipping, i.e. when fans envision certain characters being romantically paired together. Earlier this year, as The Mandalorian Season 3 was airing to Disney+ subscribers, shipping the title protagonist, a.k.a. Din Djarin, and Bo-Katan Kryze was all the rage, but is it actually possible we’ll see these two become more than allies in battle, be it in The Mandalorian Season 4 or a different upcoming Star Wars project? Well, Katee Sackoff, Bo-Katan’s actress, has clarified the romantic prospects between the two.

In addition to Sackhoff debunking the rumors that Bo-Katan will take over as The Mandalorian’s lead character, she also carved out some time during her interview with The Direct that nothing romantic is happening between her character and Din Djarin, whom Pedro Pascal voice and occasionally plays on-camera, but is primarily portrayed on set by Brendan Wayne (who’s John Wayne’s grandson) and Lateef Crowder. The actress name dropped the former while setting things straight, saying the following when asked if there was any discussion about the characters getting together romantically:

She’s not wrong about there being shipping between Bo-Katan Kryze and The Armorer too, but that’s a conversation for another time. In this instance, those of you reading who’ve thought there are sparks between Bo-Katan and Din Djarin, or at least hope there will be in the future, you’ll want to pump the brakes on that. Beyond Katee Sackhoff just joking around with Brendan Wayne during filming, there’s no romance in the air between these Mandalorians, and assuming The Mandalorian Season 4 happens, that’s not something we should expect to see. They’ll remain comrades and nothing more.

The Mandalorian Season 3 premiered on March 1 and wrapped its eight-episode run on April 19. Although Lucasfilm and Disney haven’t officially announced Season 4 is on the way, Jon Favreau said in February 2023 that all of the next season is written, and it will tie into Ahsoka and Skeleton Crew. Factor in how popular The Mandalorian continues to be, and it’s hard to imagine Season 4 not being greenlit. And while Katee Sackhoff reprising Bo-Katan isn’t quite as sure a thing, considering she’s now organizing the surviving Mandalorians in repopulating Mandalore, it seems logical to assume she’ll be back as well, if not necessarily in as prominent a role compared to in Season 3.

The good news is there’s plenty of other Star Wars content to enjoy on Disney+ while we wait for word on The Mandalorian Season 4. Ahsoka wrapped up its season in early October, shows like Skeleton Crew and The Acolyte are expected to debut in 2024, and, of course, you can always view the Star Wars movies in order on the Mouse House’s streaming platform.

The Mandalorian, one of the best original Disney+ shows to watch, has squarely focused on the adventures of Pedro Pascal’s Din Djarin and his young (now-adopted) son, Grogu. For three seasons, avid viewers have followed their journey, which gradually peeled back the layers of the reserved Djarin. Some could argue that he’s become one of the most complex characters within Star Wars lore. However, rumors have been circulating as of late, which suggest that he could be replaced as the protagonist of the show by Katee Sackhoff’s Bo-Katan Kryze. Now, Sackhoff herself is explaining what’s going on.

Katee Sackhoff is no stranger to dealing with rumors, as she’s had to contend with a few in relation to the franchises she’s been a part of. That’s especially been the case when it comes to her tenure in the Disney-owned science fiction saga. When the actress was asked about the hearsay regarding Din and Bo-Katan, she shot down the notion of becoming the show’s new lead actor. Sackhoff then gave her take on what causes assertions like that one and others to start making the rounds: 

Bo-Katan – who originally debuted in animated form in Star Wars: The Clone Wars – played a major role in The Mandalorian Season 3, which was a major title on the 2023 TV schedule. Kryze assisted in helping Djarin redeem himself in the eyes of his people, after he removed his helmet. She was also instrumental in uniting the various Mando factions to retake Mandalore. In the end, Din became a contractor for the New Republic and settled down with Grogu in Nevarro. Meanwhile, Bo-Katan (who was able to wield the Darksaber before its destruction) took her place as the leader of her people. Katee Sackhoff went on to tell The Direct that she recognizes there was a lot of emphasis placed on her character in the latest episodes but also shared a clear statement about who the series’ central protagonist is: 

I suppose one can understand why some fans would get the impression that the show was planning to shift to a different character’s perspective, especially given how the season ended for Mando. But by the sounds of it, Pedro Pascal’s relatively quiet and incredibly deadly hero will remain the focus of the show. The idea of Bo-Katan becoming the lead isn’t bad, though. Even Pascal himself told Variety that he wouldn’t mind seeing the Mandalore ruler “[taking] center stage.” 

As of this writing, little has been said about The Mandalorian Season 4, though series creator and EP Jon Favreau confirmed that scripts had been written. So there’s currently no telling if Disney+ subscribers can even expect to see Katee Sackhoff’s Bo-Katan back in the fray. The character’s position within the show and her popularity amongst fans are enough to make me think that Favreau has more plans for her. Yet should she return, it’s probably wise to expect that she’ll continue to be a supporting player (or a co-lead) to Pedro Pascal’s Djarin.

One thing I love about following Katee Sackhoff is the fact the actress has so many touchstones in different fandom communities. Most people know her right now for The Mandalorian, or for her recent work on Hallmark’s movies schedule, but back in the day she appeared on a little show called Battlestar Galactica, which has stayed relevant in the cultural lexicon over the year. Which means fans like me were very here for her reunion photo this weekend. 

The actress had a chance to meet fellow blonde BSG alum Tricia Helfer, who played Six on the Syfy series. Helfer also posted a photo to explain why the two were hanging out, and it turns out she was a guest on her former co-star’s podcast, “Blah Blah Blah with Katee Sackhoff.” Of course, they took a photo to commemorate the occasion as well. 

The only thing that might have made this reunion sweeter might have been if the Starbuck actress had rocked a black and grey tank and the Six actress had worn her character’s signature red look. I get it; they weren’t cosplaying, but a girl can dream!

I’m not the one who was – and sorry for the crass phrase – but happy as a pig in shit about this reunion. Other Battlestar Galactica fans also commented and the enthusiasm is palpable.

It’s clear that a lot of fans still have fond feelings about Ron Moore’s version of Battlestar Galactica, and I can see why. The original show was excellent (though some fans have beef with the BSG ending) and it was just such a wonderfully thought out universe that I thought would have sparked additionally popular spinoffs, sort of a la Stargate. However, Caprica was quickly canceled after it didn’t find an audience and Blood & Chrome also fizzled, making BSG the property fans still really remember and talk about. (Still, I’d argue at least one of those shows was a sci-fi series that was canceled too soon.) 

While the show may be over, perhaps there will be an opportunity for another sort of reunion in the future? The Battlestar Galactica cast have moved on to different projects in the years since, but moments like these make it clear fan interest is still quite high. In this post, for example, some of my favorite fan comments had to be the ones where people suggested Tricia Helfer for The Mandalorian. I don’t hate it, like, at all.

Earlier in 2023 Sackhoff reunited with more of her BSG family, including Jamie Bamber, Michael Trucco, and Mary McDonnell. In addition, Sackhoff’s other recent sci-fi show Another Life also featured a BSG reunion when Kate Vernon (who played Ellen Tigh on the Syfy show) also joined the Netflix series in Season 2. What I guess I’m saying is I miss the show, fans miss the show, and clearly the cast even misses the show. Let’s find more ways to bring them together again. 

For a long time, Katee Sackhoff was best known for playing Kara “Starbuck” Thrace on Battlestar Galactica, but these days, she has an even bigger sci-fi presence thanks to her time in the Star Wars universe as Bo-Katan Kryze, particularly The Mandalorian. That being said, Sackhoff also has a few DC Comics media-related credits under her belt, and with the new DC Universe franchise launching in the coming years, the actress has opened up about wanting to play Poison Ivy on the big screen. That said, she is also fully aware that Karen Gillan is gunning for the same role.

In addition to having played Amunet Black in The Flash TV series, Sackhoff also voiced Poison Ivy in the animated DC movie Batman: The Long Halloween, which is set in the Tomorrowverse timeline. So right off the bat, you’d think that would give her an edge over being looked at to play Poison Ivy in live-action, but as Sackhoff pointed out to The Playlist, Gillan has an even bigger edge because of her relationship with DC Studios co-head James Gunn, saying:

Katee Sackhoff playing Karen Gillan’s mom “again” is a reference to 2013’s Oculus, which saw the former starring as Kaylie Russell in 2013 and the latter appearing as Marie Russell in the movie’s 2002-set scenes. More importantly, Sackhoff is correct that Gillan is unquestionably “closer” to James Gunn since she played Nebula in his Guardians of the Galaxy movies and The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, as well as Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame and Thor: Love and Thunder. That, along with Gillan’s hair being naturally red, makes her a stellar fit to play Poison Ivy, who hasn’t been portrayed in a live-action movie since Uma Thurman hammed it up in 1997’s Batman & Robin.

Still, that doesn’t mean Sackhoff should automatically be out of the running for this Batman baddie. After all, one of the few details we know about the DC Universe’s upcoming Batman movie, titled The Brave and the Bold (directed by Andy Muschietti), is that it’ll see Bruce Wayne teaming up with his son, Damian, indicating this Bruce will be an older crimefighter. With Sackhoff being seven years older than Gillan, perhaps she’s in a better age range to pair with this particular Batman. 

Also, don’t forget that Matt Reeves has his The Batman universe going in another corner of the DC multiverse. So even if Gillan or another actress were to be cast as Poison Ivy instead for the new DC Universe, the Battlestar Galactica alum could conceivably be considered for this other continuity if Reeves was interested in bringing to life a more grounded depiction of the character. In this world, Ivy may not be mentally manipulating plant life, but there could still be a good way to have he cause trouble as an ecoterrorist.

Rest assured that if it’s announced Katee Sackhoff and/or Karen Gillan will appear in the DC Universe, whether as Poison Ivy or in other roles, we’ll let you know. The final season of The Flash saw many familiar faces return, including the much-missed Stephen Amell -- who played Oliver Queen. Unfortunately, not every fan-favorite character could return for the show's send-off season. That included original cast member Carlos Valdes, who couldn’t come back due to a scheduling conflict. Another actor that didn’t return was Katee Sackhoff, who portrayed the villainous Amunet Black in six episodes between 2017 and 2020. Now, the Mandalorian star is sharing her thoughts on the situation, and it turns out it wasn’t necessarily her choice.

Katee Sackhoff was a guest on ThePlaylist's Bingeworthy podcast, on she discussed her time on The Flash and how much fans seem to love Amunet Black. During the conversation, she admitted that she didn't get a call to return for the final season, and it sounds like she would've loved to have reprised her role as the supervillain one more time:

There’s no way of knowing exactly why Katee Sackhoff wasn’t asked back on The Flash, but it's possible that the season's shortened length played into it. Season 9 only had 13 episodes, as opposed to the usual 20+ that previous ones had. Realistically, there were only so many story ideas that the producers could fit into the final slate of episodes. Still, it's disappointing that fans didn’t get to see Amunet return one more time. Sackhoff, for her part, does seem to understand the exclusion as well:

It would've been fun to see Amunet Black again. I would've been particularly eager to get a glimpse at her reaction to Khione since she has history with Caitlin and Frost. Despite Superman & Lois not technically being canon in the Arrowverse, there’s always the possibility that the fan-favorite actress could reprise the villain on that series, depending on whether or not it gets renewed for another season. As of now, however, Amunet Black's journey is at an end, as The Flash officially wrapped up its run a couple of weeks ago.

As it stands, the role is arguably one of Katee Sackoff’s best performances. The metahuman -- whose real name is Leslie Jocoy -- used her magnetokinesis power to make herself one of Crystal City’s most ruthless crime bosses. Despite appearing in less than 10 episodes of the show, she definitely made an impression both on fans and the characters within the show itself. Though series devotees more than likely won't see Sackhoff play the character again, I suppose they can always formulate some cool fan fiction to gain some kind of closure.

Battlestar Galactica may have ended after its four-season run back in 2009, but the BSG family evidently has a bond that has lasted to this day. Katee Sackhoff clearly hasn't forgotten her days as Starbuck even as she moved on to Star Wars and portraying Bo-Katan Kryze, as she recently shared a reunion photo that was a throwback to Battlestar in the best way. After all, family – found and otherwise – was an important theme of the series! 

Of course, in the universe of Battlestar Galactica, forming a found family could also involve humans accepting Cylons as friends and loved ones. Take a look at Katee Sackhoff's touching photo and message about "the family we choose" with her fellow BSG alums:

While this certainly isn't the entire crew of the Galactica from the four seasons of the show (all of which are available streaming via Peacock Premium subscription and certain other streaming options), it's lovely to see Jamie Bamber, Michael Trucco, and Mary McDonnell together with Katee Sackhoff, along with Sandra Hess, who seems to be an honorary member of the team as Trucco's wife! 

The members of the cast are all smiles in Katee Sackhoff's post, which is certainly a sign that they're posing for a photo between friends rather than trying to channel their characters, and not just because most of their characters were no longer among the living by the end of Season 4. Would Apollo and Anders ever look that happy in each other's company? 

In all seriousness, this isn't the first time that members of the cast have demonstrated their bond, as many of them showed their support for Michael Hogan (who played Saul Tigh on BSG) when he suffered a tragic accident, and subsequent updates on his health were promising. 

On the whole, I love to see that members of the cast still embrace the show, the roles that made them famous in the sci-fi sphere, and their chosen family. Plus, as a fan who's still not entirely over how Battlestar Galactica ended (despite what stars have since said about Starbuck's infamous farewell), it's fun to get reminders of what made the show so addictive back in the day. 

The conflict between Cylons and humankind may eventually return to television with a Battlestar Galactica reboot, although the project hit a big BTS setback after going into development to become a Peacock original series. Katee Sackhoff previously said that she hadn't been contacted about participating in the reboot, but also that she'd consider a role if one was a good fit. 

Of course, that was before she became a central character in a Star Wars TV show, and there's no saying if she'll be back as Bo-Katan Kryze in a project other than The Mandalorian in the galaxy far, far away. For now, though, Battlestar Galactica fans can always revisit the 2004 - 2009 version of the series streaming on Peacock to see the "family we choose" in action together again. 

Katee Sackhoff has a slew of fans in the sci-fi community, some of whom love her badass nature and some of whom, as she herself eloquently put it, want her to “sit on their face”. Recently Sackhoff rocked a bikini for an adorable beach day outing with her daughter Ginevra, but all the “fans” on the posts seemed to be doing was harkening back to those comments wanting to do sexual things with her. Now, The Mandalorian star has responded in a couple of ways. 

What Are The 2% Comments Star Wars Fans Keep Making?

In April, Sackhoff appeared on Kristian Harloff’s “The Big Thing” podcast to talk about a slew of topics. Members of the Star Wars fandom came up, and she had honestly mostly positive things to say about the fandom, but there was a bit of a sexual component that came up. She said: 

If the commenters in the days since this interview went viral are any indication, it’s more than 2% who would be interested in a sexual encounter, with a slew of fans commenting things like “We’re hitting 3% now with these comments” and another retorting it’s more like “20%.” Now, Sackhoff has found a couple of ways to respond to the commenters who can’t stop, won’t stop hitting up her Instagram with overly sexual comments. 

How Katee Sackhoff Responded After The 2% Brouhaha

In general, the BSG and Another Life alum seems to have a pretty good sense of humor; we’ve seen this evidenced in the past when another fan asked her to “send nudes” and she complied by sending a funny photo of her in the shower. 

In this case, once Sackhoff got back from her Mexico vacation, the star had a two-fold approach. She responded to the viral comments with an Instagram Stories repost of a funny TikTok Jack Black had shared previously about “reading the comments” after Star Wars fans complained about his own Mandalorian cameo.  You can see the full (and fully hilarious) original TikTok from Jack Black, below.

Separately, she refused to acknowledge the overly sexualized brouhaha and tried to shift the narrative by choosing to respond to commenters who asked her about more normal people things, like where she got her adorable swimsuit (turns out it’s Agua Bendita and some of their suits are even reversible) and inquiring about her alleged sunburn (she just gets red in the sun). She noted to those followers: 

Her post tried to gloss over the sexualized comments that have been coming her way over and over again in recent days. In some ways it worked, as a lot of fans commented about also going “tomato red” whenever they are faced with the prospect of time in the sun. 

… and yet, that hasn’t stopped some  Star Wars fans from continuing their campaign of being as juvenile as possible, even on her response post.

It’s cool that fans have as many opinions about Katee Sackhoff’s Bo-Katan role as they do Star Wars movies, but there is such a thing as taking things too far. In this case, I'm starting to think the actress may need a vacation from her post-vacation, or maybe just social media for a couple of days.

Katee Sackhoff has been back to work since having her little one Ginevra Grace Gadsby in December of last year. The Mandalorian and BSG actress has kept busy, but she’s been candid in the past about how tough it is to be away from her little one. Which is why I’m so happy to see the mom of 1 threw on a bikini to spend a day with her daughter at the beach. Unfortunately, a lot of the commentary from Star Wars fans is about sitting on her face.

Look, Sackhoff nearly always looks stunning, and I love her printed high-waisted bikini bottoms and flattering off-matched top. I love that she’s drinking a beer with a margarita floater (fun choice) and I love she got to spend a blissful day relaxing with her little one. Take a look. 

Unfortunately, a lot of celebrity moms like Kristin Cavallari have taken flack in recent months for wearing bikinis to the beach or the pool. In The Mandalorian actress’ case, the comments don’t get down on her for rocking swimwear as a mom. In fact, most fans seemed happy about the swimwear, though some of these comments are gross in a completely different way. 

In fact, a lot of the comments are harkening back to an interview Sackhoff did recently in which she joked about Mando fans, noting of them, 

I get it. Sackhoff is a sex symbol in the world of sci-fi fans and I love that she could joke around about it in her interview with The Big Thing.  Except that it has then spawned a lot of social media users to adopt the phase. Myriad comments on this cute post with her kid are about this sitting on her face thing.

This isn’t the first time fans with a Disney+ subscription have gotten thirsty over Bo-Katan, which is probably why Sackhoff joked about it in the first place. Remember the Mandalorian episode when Bo-Katan was just lounging around on the throne in her castle? People hyped that moment in a thirst trap-y way too. 

Look, Katee Sackhoff has been dealing with fans like this for a long time. There was the time a fan asked her to "send nudes" and the BSG alum complied. So, she's probably not super bothered by the fans latching onto her viral comment. 

I’m just saying, y’’all are better than this.

So, I’m just gonna wrap this up by noting that I hope she had a wonderful time with her daughter at the beach. Sackhoff's been open about being away from her little one for work and how hard it has been. Though I assume one of the pros of the actress’ profession is that she can take memorable breaks like this one both from her professional life, but also all the “fans” who follow her.

The term “Geek Goddess” — used to describe a female actor who has been involved in many popular or cult genre movie and TV shows — is one practically synonymous with Katee Sackhoff, who has certainly come a long way from her major motion picture debut in the most critically reviled of the Halloween movies, 2002’s Halloween: Resurrection. At this point in her career, the simple announcement of her casting in a project is enough to get a rise out of legions of fans, which is why it is hard to believe that she has not played a Marvel character (at least in a live-action title) yet. 

The most recent example of her mastery in genre acting can be seen in how she plays Bo-Katan Kryze on the hit Disney+ original TV show, The Mandalorian, which is actually not the only series spun-off from the Star Wars franchise on which she has portrayed the resident, intergalactic bounty hunter. The role is also merely the latest example of the many great performances Sackhoff has given in the more two decades she has been acting, but Bo-Katan is where we shall start.

Bo-Katan Kryze (Star Wars: The Clone Wars, The Mandalorian)

The character of Bo-Katan Kryze — a character very important to the history of Mandalorian culture — was first introduced during the fourth season of the hit animated series, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and was voiced by Katee Sackhoff. In the same year the George Lucas-created show had its final season, the actor became one of the first (and few) actors to reprise their animated Star Wars character in a live-action setting in the second season of The Mandalorian, for which she would don a red wig and add another layer of complexity and grit to the role, especially when she became a series regular in Season 3. 

Kara "Starbuck" Thrace (Battlestar Galactica)

One of Sackhoff’s earliest and most esteemed trips into space is also the site of one of her most complex, grittiest, and most iconic roles yet — and one she fought hard for. On Ronald D. Moore’s reimagining of Glen A. Larson’s short-lived, cult favorite sci-fi series from the 1970s, the actor gives one of her most acclaimed performances as Lt. Kara “Starbuck” Thrace — a gender-swapped reinterpretation of Dirk Benedict’s character from the original. While mirroring the rebellious and cocky nature of Benedict’s portrayal, Sackhoff’s Starbuck would grow to be an even more popular figure of the franchise who is defined more for her resilience in the face of chaos and for her own flaws.

Dahl (Riddick)

A few years after the end of Battlestar Galactica, Sackhoff returned to outer space, but in a much different corner of the galaxy and for a role that is easily a standout in 2013’s Riddick — and not just because she is the only female character with a major speaking part. You can actually see a lot of Starbuck in the actor’s performance as Dahl — yet another outer space bounty hunter role on her resume — with her short-temper and impressive skills in hand-to-hand combat. She is one of the main reasons why the third installment of the Vin Diesel-led sci-fi franchise is my personal favorite… so far, until Riddick 4, anyway.

Niko Breckenridge (Another Life)

Just a year before reprising Bo-Katan on The Mandalorian, Katee Sackhoff made yet another return to space, but in a whole new kind of role unlike her previous characters away from earth. She leads the cast of the Netflix original sci-fi TV show, Another Life, as Niko Breckenridge — an astronaut forced to leave her husband and daughter behind when she is enlisted to lead a mission to investigate the origin of an alien artifact that recently made contact with the planet. While this would mark a slight turning point for Sackhoff in terms of her character’s overall demeanor, Niko is nonetheless the Number One reason to watch the series.

Victoria "Vic" Moretti (Longmire)

Sackhoff’s first Netflix exclusive series saw her invoke many of the same gritty, heroic sensibilities of her sci-fi characters, but while keeping her feet planted firmly on the ground. In Longmire, one of the best Neo-Western TV shows in recent memory, she plays Victoria “Vic” Moretti — a Philadelphia detective who, after following her husband to Wyoming, becomes deputy to Robert Taylor’s titular sheriff. Vic’s street smarts come in handy when dealing with some of the harsher crimes that she and Longmire face, but she also proves to be vulnerable when her personal life gets in the way.

I mentioned at the top how Sackhoff’s first break in the horror genre with a role in Halloween: Resurrection did not result in the best movie on her resume, but her luck would change when she collaborated with Mike Flanagan. The writer and director’s first mainstream hit one, and of his best movies, 2013’s Oculus, is the story of a brother and sister (Brenton Thwaites and Karen Gillan) and their investigation into a mysterious mirror that they believe is responsible for their traumatic childhood. In flashbacks, we learn that their mother, played Sackhoff, fell prey to the insidious supernatural artifact, evolving her from the loving woman she once was into a violent murderer.

Amunet Black (The Flash)

Marie Russell is far from Sackhoff’s most iconic villainous character. That easily goes to her recurring role on The CW’s hit DC Comics-based TV show, The Flash, as Amunet Black — a meta human otherwise known as Leslie Jocoy who uses her power of magnetokinesis (which allows her to manipulate metallic substances) to develop a reputation as one of Crystal City’s most ruthless crime bosses. However, what makes this recurring role such a standout on the Arrow-verse set series and in the actor’s career in general is her deliciously scenery-chewing portrayal, complete with a hilariously over-the-top British accent.

BONUS: Kimberly (Power Rangers)

I could not complete this list without at least a mention of Sackhoff’s striking and even heartbreaking performance in a role originated by Amy Jo Johnson on Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. This 15-minute short film by acclaimed music video director Joseph Kahn reimagines the ‘90s childhood favorite as gritty, graphically violent dystopian drama that I wish we could one day see adapted as a feature-length film, especially with Sackhoff as the grown-up pink ranger, Kimblerly — a character she now owns, as far as I am concerned, for the way she redefines it with such a refreshing believability.

Needless to say, I am very much looking forward to see what Katee Sackhoff brings us next, whether that means seeing more of Bo-Katan Kryze or something entirely new.

The following story is going to get into spoilers for the season finale of The Mandalorian, available to anyone with a Disney+ subscription as we speak. The third season started off slow, but really picked up, and the finale was solid. So we highly recommend you go and catch up with the season… then come back and read all of our excellent content!

In the grand finale of the third season of the Star Wars program The Mandalorian, Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal), Grogu, and Bo-Katan Kryze (Katee Sackhoff) unite the forces of the Mandalorian against the recently surfaced Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito), who has been using Mandalore as his secret base of operations. Yes, Baby Yoda embraced his toddler mode in the finale, and Mando plowed through rows of enhanced Stormtroopers, it was Bo-Katan who was able to emerge triumphant because she possessed the Darksaber, with which she has a complicated history.

Recently, we caught up with Katee Sackhoff at Star Wars Celebration 2023, where she was promoting the final episodes of this season of The Mandalorian, and making connections to the other upcoming live-action Star Wars stories being told in this universe. And because her character Bo-Katan was in possession of the valuable Darksaber through a chunk of this episode, I wanted to know what that prop looked like on set. And as the actress joked to CinemaBlend:

Ah, the magic of Star Wars. There has been a lot of conversation about the Darksaber, and how its rightful ownership has been treated over the years by the Star Wars storytellers. The end of The Mandalorian Season 2 raised some major questions about who had the ability to wield the weapon in Star Wars Rebels. Beyond the Darksaber, though, The Mandalorian this past season really expanded our knowledge of the Mandalorian culture, putting it into perspective as the shows and movies begin to lead us as an audience into the formation of The First Order, which we know will become relevant through the Sequel Trilogy. Katee Sackhoff made it clear that these evolutions were all by design, as she told CinemaBlend: 

Those who saw The Mandalorian season finale understood that it almost felt like a series finale. But from what we know, a fourth season of The Mandalorian is happening, and Dave Filoni’s announced Star Wars movie will rely on story threads teased in both this show, Ahsoka (watch that show’s trailer right here), and possibly Skeleton Crew. In other words, prepare for the arrival of Grand Admiral Thrawn! Things are getting very exciting in Star Wars land, so keep it here for all of the latest developments.

Going into The Mandalorian Season 3, we knew things were going to be tense between Din Djarin and Bo-Katan Kryze, considering the events of the Season 2 finale. And that proved to be the case in the premiere and second episode of the new season. But as they made their way through the mines of Mandalore in the latter, it seemed that they were starting to form a mutual respect for one another. Things are complicated between them, but the relationship between Bo-Katan actress Katee Sackhoff and Mando himself Pedro Pascal is a bit different. Sackhoff humorously revealed how Pascal "annoys" her, and Pascal might actually agree.

CinemaBlend caught up with Katee Sackhoff ahead of Season 3 of The Mandalorian and got thoughts from her on what it's like to work with Pedro Pascal. Sackhoff wasn't afraid to get candid with us, but her statement may give fans some humorously mixed signals about where she stands with Pascal: 

Katee Sackhoff delivered the most backhanded insults I've heard in a good while, perhaps to signal that she has no beef with her co-star on The Mandalorian. At least, not one she's publicly willing to admit on a red carpet anyway. I, personally, wouldn't blame her if she's secretly mad that Din has the Darksaber as opposed to Bo-Katan because, clearly, she's much more skilled at using it. 

Of course, I'm joking in suggesting there's an actual animosity between the two Star Wars actors. As anyone can see in the video below, the Battlestar Galactica alum is all smiles and not giving any hint of actual anger in our interview with her, which is sure to be music to her colleague's ears:

The Mandalorian fans can only hope that, somehow, Din and Bo-Katan can become as friendly as Katee Sackhoff and Pedro Pascal seem to be. It does appear as though their connection was somewhat strengthened while they were in the mines of Mandalore, as they're both finding that there's truth in both of the perspectives from which they view the planet they love. 

Bo-Katan may believe that Din's coven and "The Way" contributed to the fall of Mandalore, but even her modernist views of the planet seems like they may be challenged in the near future. (I mean, are we about to see the Mythosaur appear in Season 3 and help lead Din to reunite the people of Mandalore?) 

On top of that, there's still a question of who is best suited to lead Mandalore. While Din is in control of the Darksaber, he clearly lacks the proper training to use it.And while Bo-Katan looks to be far more experienced, she lost what followers she had when Din obtained the weapon. 

Perhaps The Mandalorian is angling to have Bo-Katan and Din reunite the Mandalorians dispersed across the galaxy. It'd be a quite a sight to see, but only time will tell if it pans out. In the meantime, I'm happy to hear more funny comments from Katee Sackhoff or Pedro Pascal regarding their own relationship. I'm sure Sackhoff could manage to conjure up a few more hilariously sweet reasons for why her colleague "annoys" here, with Pascal soaking up the praise in return.

During the long gap between The Mandalorian’s Season 2 finale and its Season 3 premiere, fans envisioned all manner of antagonistic scenarios that could occur between Pedro Pascal’s Din and Katee Sackhoff’s Clone Wars vet Bo-Katan, with the elusive Darksaber as the grand prize. But that’s not what Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni had in mind, at least not yet, as thoes with Disney+ subscriptions witnessed a far less aggressive Bo-Katan in “The Apostate,” as she seemed intent to lounge her days away in her throne. (Much to some fans’ enjoyment.) A return to badassery ensued in Ep. 302, but after gaining possession of the Darksaber during the rescue mission, she surprisingly chose to return it to its current owner without any messy-mess. 

Bo-Katan seemed to be more emotionally invested in Mando never having Pog soup before than she did about taking over Darksaber duties, and Katee Sackhoff herself explained there’s a reason her character doesn’t appear to be as driven by Darksaber motivations as viewers may have thought. Here’s how she put it to Deadline:

In any situation where fighting and violence are used as a means of leadership, barring the most heinous exceptions, there comes a point where enough is recognized to be enough. And for Bo-Katan, it wasn’t just a case of beating a dead horse, as it were, where her actions led her to a status quo plateau, but rather that so many of her choices caused measurable damage for those following her, as well as herself. 

As such, she’s taken some time to reflect, and is now focused more on learning from history rather than repeating it. In Sackhoff’s words:

So if everything she'd attempted before only led to bad things and ruin, then Bo-Katan was left to mull over how to change her approach into something completely new. And by all means, sitting on a throne like a damned legend seemed to be working well enough without destroying anything. When asked about the timing of Bo-Katan's shift in attitude about the Darksaber, Katee Sackhoff said:

Not only does Bo-Katan reverse her initial Ep. 302 stance of not joining Mando on his Mandalore quest, but she instantly jumped to attention upon realizing he was in danger. She even used the Darksaber as part of her rescue efforts, which would be as suitable a reason as any to just take control of the weapon anew. But that might have meant losing Mando as a friend in arms, and she's not about losing people anymore. Plus, after seeing that giant eyeball, she now realizes that her previous assumptions about the planet may not have been so accurate, which may result in another shift in Bo-Katan's mindset.

The Battlestar Galactica vet spoke previously about wanting Season 3 to explore the reasoning behind why she didn’t forcibly take the Darksaber from Din in the Season 2 finale. And more recently shared how honored she felt for The Mandalorian's Jon Favreau and others to ask for her personal Bo-Katan input, so it looks like she’s getting exactly what she was hoping for.

The following contains spoilers for the end of the first episode of Season 3 of The Mandalorian.

The new season of The Mandalorian has arrived on Disney+ and while the first episode of Season 3 didn’t have any of the major character cameos or broader franchise connections that tend to work the fan base into a frenzy, it still had an ending that is getting talked about on social media. It wasn’t a particularly epic tease for the season to come, it was just Kattee Sackhoff’s Bo-Katan looking the way a lot of people clearly feel, by being absolutely done.

The final scene of the new episode shows our hero arriving on a planet in the Mandalorian star system that Bo-Katan has made her home. When he finds her, she’s sitting on an actual throne. Actually, sitting isn’t quite the right word, lounging is a bit more appropriate, and fans on Twitter are here for it.  

Bo-Katan certainly looks like she could be surrounded by servants feeding her food and drink like she’s some sort of Roman Emperor.  The throne is absolutely massive and Bo-Katan, even in her armor, just isn’t that big. Still, she is completely owning the space she is taking up. The look on her face seems to be challenging anybody to say anything about how big her throne is.

At the same time, once Bo-Katan starts to talk, her demeanor becomes less “screw you” and a bit more “screw all of it.” She’s a defeated woman. She explains to Mando that without the Darksaber, her hopes of taking back Mandalore have completely collapsed, and she tells him that his hopes of redeeming himself are likely doomed to fail as well.  She’s chilling on her throne because she doesn’t have much else to do.

We’ve all been there. You have those days, if not weeks or months, where you try, and you fail, and it just doesn’t seem worth it anymore. She is clearly out of fucks to give. For fans who have been following Bo-Katan's journey since the Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated series, it’s a completely understandable place for her to be considering all she has done and what she has been through, now that it has all basically fallen apart.

It’s all but certain this will not be all we see of Bo-Katan in the new season of The Mandalorian. The big question is exactly what she will do next. She could join Din Djarin, and try to help him, as the wielder of the Darksaber, in restoring their home. Or, she could try to take the Darksaber herself, leading to a conflict between the two characters. Or maybe she'll just stay home and drink wine.

Based on the way fans are loving this new Bo-Katan, you can be sure they’ll be looking forward to seeing where Season 3 of The Mandalorian takes her. New episodes arrive on DIsney+ every Wednesday.

Katee Sackhoff has a unique place in the Star Wars universe as she’s one of few actors to portray the same Star Wars character in both live-action and animation. Mandalorian Bo-Katan was first introduced in Dave Filoni’s The Clone Wars before appearing in The Mandalorian, meaning Sackhoff has spent years with the role. It’s for this reason that the writer and director of The Mandalorian Season 3 apparently deferred to her when it came to how the character should be portrayed.

While actors can certainly give some amount of input regarding how to handle a character or a scene, the job of the actor is usually to simply give the performance asked of them. It’s the writer or the director who decides what the character should be doing. However, Katee Sackhoff tells Empire that on the set of The Mandalorian Season 3 she had a “crazy experience” because producer Jon Favreau and director Rick Famuyiwa would routinely ask her how she felt because they understood that she knew the character better than they did. Sackhoff explained…

While the experience of having a producer and director defer to her may have been crazy, it was clearly something that Katee Sackhoff appreciated. She not only understands this character well but also apparently feels very close to the character. By having some amount of power in how she is portrayed that closeness is only going to grow, and likely lead to a better performance overall.

Bo-Katan first appeared in a Season 4 episode of Star Wars: The Clone Wars so Katee Sackhoff has been playing the role in one form or another for over a decade now, having appeared there and in Star Wars: Rebels before making the transition to live-action in Season 2 of The Mandalorian. 

Exactly what we’ll see from Bo Katan in the upcoming season of The Mandalorian remains to be seen. She and Din Djarden aren't necessarily working toward the same goals. We know Bo-Katan is trying to unite Mandalore, but the symbol of that unification, the Darksaber, belongs to The Mandalorian. He may have other goals since his focus is on his particular offshoot of Mandlorians, which Bo-Katan sees as a cult. We’ll find out and be able to watch The Mandalorian Season 3 when it hits Disney+ on March 1.

What do Britney Spears, American Pickers star Danielle Colby and Battlestar Galactica and The Big Bang Theory guest star Katee Sackhoff all have in common? Well, they’ve each recently dropped trou and hopped into the bathtub for a fun photoshoot in recent weeks (though Spears was posting for her haters and Colby was posting for herself). Sackhoff made the move in order to draw attention to and raise money for a "good cause," as she put it. 

Apparently, Katee Sackhoff is pals with Chris Salgardo, the head honcho behind Atwater Skincare. At least they like one another well enough that she was willing to not only put out a non-ad in support of the brand, but she also went naked for it. She explained that Chris and his team were creating a body scrub and cleansing bar in order to raise $10,000 for nonprofit RxArt  helping “children heal through the power of visual art.”

Pretty cool, but cool enough to hop into a bathtub for? It would seem so. 

Katee Sackhoff loves to have fun on her socials and has never been a woman to shy away from conversations about fitness and loving her body, and I can’t say that going naked for a good cause was a total surprise. In fact, she did it once before. 

However, my favorite part of this post just happens to be the fan response to the post. A bunch of Big Bang Theory fans caught wind of Sackhoff's tub pic, and remembered that time she hopped into a bathtub with Simon Helberg for a very memorable role on the CBS sitcom more than a decade ago. A slew of Big Bang fans commented, proving they have very long memories about Sackhoff's guest appearance.

Although The Book of Boba Fett looped in Pedro Pascal’s Din Djarin around this time last year, The Mandalorian show itself hasn’t aired since Season 2 concluded in late 2020. But not to worry, as Disney+ subscribers are now less than two months away from Season 3’s long-awaited arrival. A new trailer for the next batch of The Mandalorian episodes has dropped, and Pascal and Kate Sackhoff, the actress who brings Bo-Katan Kryze to life, are doing their part to hype Star Wars fans up for Season 3.

Before we get into what Pedro Pascal and Katee Sackhoff had to say, take a look at the latest trailer for The Mandalorian Season 3, which follows four months after the first trailer premiered and is packed with goodies, including Din Djarin back alongside fellow Mandalorian warriors, an Order 66 flashback and the return of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker character Babu Frik.

So The Mandalorian’s eponymous protagonist and Grogu, his Force-sensitive ward, have enough things to keep themselves occupied with following their team-up on Tatooine with Boba Fett and Fennec Shand. How the next chapter of their journey begins won’t be known until The Mandalorian Season 3 premieres at the beginning of March, but Pedro Pascal is clearly jazzed for fans to see what’s coming up, as evidenced by the caption on his Instagram post sharing the Season 3 poster.

Appropriately, the official Star Wars account wrote “Wizard” in the comments of that “Fly AF” post, with that word being popular slang in a galaxy far, far away. As for Katee Sackhoff, who voiced Bo-Katan in Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels prior to playing the character in live-action, she simply shared on her own Instagram that she can’t wait for The Mandalorian’s return in the near future, as you’ll see below.

Along with Pedro Pascal and Katee Sackhoff reprising their respective roles, other familiar faces returning for The Mandalorian Season 3 include Giancarlo Esposito’s Moff Gideon, Carl Weathers’ Green Karga, Amy Sedaris’ Peli Motton, Omid Abtahi’s Dr. Pershing, Emily Swallow’s The Armorer and Paul Sun-Hyung’s Carson Teva. SNL’s Tim Meadows and Back to the Future’s Christopher Lloyd have also been cast in undisclosed roles. The Mandalorian Season 3 will arrive four months after Andor Season 1 concluded, and the first half of the season will are concurrently with the animated show Star Wars: The Bad Batch. The Mandalorian Season 4 is also in development, so whatever goes down in this next season won’t spell the end for this corner of the Star Wars universe.

As one of Hollywood’s resident badasses, Katee Sackhoff has spent her more recent career getting extremely fit. She often shares diet and fitness tips on her social media channels, and recently showed off her incredible fitness in a throwback post from the filming of her Netflix series Another Life. Though it’s worth noting she was simply following some funny signage on set at the time. 

Hey, when a sign says “hot set, booties plz” one must always comply!  In the Instagram photo, Sackhoff cheekily follows the directions in front of her, though one assumes the “booties” in question were probably of the variety they make you put on in hospitals and other situations and not how the actress took it. You can see the super amusing post below. 

If you have ever had the privilege of seeing a project while it films, you may already know that a “hot set” refers to a soundstage that’s in active use, with props are in place and filming ready to roll. Of course, Sackhoff was having a little fun with the wordplay on the sign. Gotta be willing to have a little fun and spice things up  when one is working such long hours. And if you have the sort of fitness level the actress does, well, might as well show it off every now and again. 

Interestingly, while the actress has been an onscreen badass ever since she starred as Starbuck on Battlestar Galactica,  she was not always in the incredible shape she is in now. The mom of baby Ginevra has said previously that she drank a lot, smoked and ate unhealthily during the time she was filming BSG. Sure, she looked bulky, but years later Katee Sackhoff revealed her Starbuck look wasn’t necessarily the result of her putting a ton of extra work in. 

After BSG ended in 2009, she  continued her streak of badass roles. She appeared in the Chronicles of Riddick sequel Riddick, played a badass Sheriff in Longmire and appeared in The Flash as a villain. Then she landed even more high-profile roles playing Bo-Katan in several Star Wars projects for Disney, including The Mandalorian and starrin in another sci-fi series on Netflix, the aforementioned Another Life. (She's been open in the past about wanting to join the MCU as well.) 

Of course, Sackhoff doesn’t only take badass roles. One of my favorite things she’s done over the past few years was when she pivoted to Hallmark for one of its Christmas movies in 2021. That’s something I hope she’ll periodically continue to do to round out her resume in the coming years. 

For now, she’s busy splitting time between Disney+ work and spending time with her husband and little one, Ginevra.  I’m sure we’ll see her on a “hot set” again sometime in the new year.   

Kate Walsh has been a fan favorite as Addison Montgomery on Grey’s Anatomy since the shocking Season 1 reveal that Meredith’s boyfriend, McDreamy himself, was actually still married. Walsh was even chosen to lead her own spinoff, Private Practice, which aired on ABC for six seasons, and even now — seven years after Derek Shepherd was killed off and as Ellen Pompeo is on her way out — Addison Montgomery continues to show up in the operating rooms of Grey Sloan Memorial. What’s more, if it were fully up to Shonda Rhimes, she might be expanding the world-class neonatal surgeon’s story even further in a Private Practice revival.

The creator of Grey’s Anatomy and Private Practice (and many other series) appeared on Good Morning America, where she was asked which of her completed series she’d most want to see brought back. Shonda Rhimes responded: 

Grey’s Anatomy has certainly pulled from real-world events to fuel its stories — including Season 17’s tackling of the pandemic and the Supreme Court’s reversal of Roe v. Wade in the current season. Private Practice seemingly had that same deep well to pull from, as Shonda Rhimes pointed out. 

If a Private Practice revival were to happen, it sure seems like a good time to do it, as Kate Walsh has kept her character's story going Grey’s Anatomy. Addison Montgomery returned to Seattle in “Let’s Talk About Sex,” Episode 3 of Grey’s Anatomy’s 19th season, after making multiple guest appearances in Season 18. 

The character hasn't disclosed much about her life back in L.A., but she did tell her former sister-in-law Amelia Shepherd (who was introduced on Private Practice before becoming a Grey's series regular) that she went through a dark time during the pandemic, to the point where she said she “began to truly hate” her husband Jake (played on the spinoff by Benjamin Bratt) and son Henry. I certainly wouldn’t mind finding out what the rest of the cast and characters have been up to since the series ended in 2013.

The characters of the Los Angeles-based spinoff were played by some real heavy hitters, including Audra McDonald, Taye Diggs, Paul Adelstein, KaDee Strickland, Chris Lowell and more. Strickland, Adelstein and Griffin Gluck will be reunited in Season 2 of the Freeform anthology Cruel Summer, which recently wrapped filming. 

Shonda Rhimes didn’t make it sound like there were actually any plans to revive the Grey’s Anatomy spinoff, but these days anything seems possible. For now, though, you’ll just have to catch Addison and Amelia on Grey’s Anatomy, which airs at 9 p.m. ET Thursdays on ABC. The Mandalorian Season 3 has released its first trailer, and amidst all the excitement and cameos, one thing stood out above all else. Din Djarin and Grogu have a journey ahead of them following all that transpired in Season 2 and The Book Of Boba Fett, and after this latest look, they may not have all the support they once had. Bo-Katan Kryze was somewhat cold to Din in this preview, and almost gave off the energy that she could be a villain in the upcoming episodes. 

That statement might be shocking to some Star Wars fans, especially since she has been seen as a more heroic figure in Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Rebels. Of course, the situation and circumstances are a bit different in The Mandalorian. Let’s talk it all out below and discuss why those tuning in with their Disney+ subscriptions might see a different side of Bo-Katan Kryze in the upcoming season of the series.

Bo-Katan Kryze And Din Had Some Tension At The End Of Season 2

In The Mandalorian's Season 2 finale, Din finally managed to take down Moff Gideon and saved Grogu from harm. As an unintended consequence, he managed to secure a relic near and dear to the people of Mandalore, the Darksaber. The Darksaber exists as a weapon of great significance in Mandalorian culture and is generally regarded as a symbol of leadership. In beating Moff Gideon in combat, Din inherited a measure of status. 

Din had zero idea of what all he took on in winning the Darksaber and tried to offer it to Bo-Katan when he learned of its significance. Bo-Katan, of course, didn’t accept the offer. Perhaps she didn’t accept it out of respect for the custom or because she knew there were witnesses who would see her not observing the custom which would invalidate her claim to the Darksaber. In either case, she declined, though it seemed very clear in the scene that she wanted it. 

Star Wars Rebels fans will better understand the significance of Bo-Katan’s want of the Darksaber, as Sabine Wren originally gifted it to her as a way to unite the various Mandalorian tribes. Bo-Katan then lost the Darksaber during the Siege of Mandalore, and somehow it wound up in the hands of Moff Gideon. Bo-Katan fully intended to win the Darksaber back from Gideon and return to her mission of reuniting Mandalore, but obviously Din taking it made it all much more complicated. To get the Darksaber, she’ll have to take it from another Mandalorian, but is that something she wouldn’t be willing to do?

Bo-Katan Alludes To Issues With Din’s Coven

As previously mentioned, the conversation we see between Din Djarin and Bo-Katan Kryze in the trailer for The Mandalorian Season 3 doesn’t sound like a pleasant one. In fact, Bo-Katan says some pretty antagonistic things to Din, even going so far to call his coven a “cult” and blame them for the division of Mandalore. That’s a pretty strong accusation, and one I can’t imagine a loyalist like Din will respond too kindly to. 

With that being said, there’s no denying that The Armorer and her people do things a bit differently than Bo-Katan and her Mandalorian followers. The helmets are the most obvious difference The Mandalorian pointed out, and possibly a sign indicating our hero hails from a more radical offshoot of Mandalorian culture (though he's currently on the outs with them, as seen in The Book of Boba Fett). At the very least, it represents a side of Mandalore that Bo-Katan hasn’t honored, and as someone who was originally seen as a leader to Mandalore when she first received the Darksaber, that’s going to be a problem. 

Perhaps that is the key to the possible tension between Bo-Katan and Din Djarin in The Mandalorian Season 3. Bo-Katan seems to be in opposition of the type of Mandalore that Din grew up under, which makes it easy to understand why she’s concerned about the Darksaber being in his possession. He has the power to unite and shape their divided people throughout the galaxy, and is already building a resume as a strong and capable warrior. 

Bo-Katan is a proud member of House Kryze, which has a storied history to date in leading Mandalore. Her sister Satine served as Duchess of Mandalore under the pacifist government, but was killed when Darth Maul took over. Bo-Katan would later lead Mandalore, but let’s face it, it was not a great reign. Now with the threat of the Empire subsided, it’s clear she wants another shot at leading and now has a person standing in her way. Bo-Katan might not be a terrible person in the classic sense of Star Wars villains like Emperor Palpatine, but one can understand how her want to reclaim the Darksaber could drive her to some extreme methods. 

The Mandalorian Presumably Lost Moff Gideon As A Main Villain Following His Capture

The Mandalorian Season 2 saw Moff Gideon captured by the good guys, which might create a bit of a problem for this show. If the main villain is brought to justice and imprisoned, then there’s no immediate replacement for a villain to stand against Din Djarin and try to steal Grogu. I mean, I guess there is a galaxy full of villains who will try and take The Child, but typically there’s a main baddie to serve as the face to that effort. 

We do know that Giancarlo Esposito will return in Season 3 as Moff Gideon, but his absence from the latest footage does present questions as to how much he’ll be involved. If Gideon is out of commission, there’s a door open for Bo-Katan to rise up as an antagonist and help usher in a storyline that is more specific to Mandalore and the Mandalorian people. 

Of course, I could be completely off base, and The Mandalorian is merely saving its villain reveal for when we actually get into Season 3. Even if Bo-Katan isn’t the main villain, there’s no denying there’s some tension to be resolved between her and Din, and Katee Sackhoff seems really excited about what’s ahead for her character.

The Mandalorian Season 3 will premiere on Disney+ in February 2023. Now is the perfect time to binge the first two seasons, or you can just hold on for the upcoming release of Andor and scratch the Star Wars itch that way. 

The Book Of Boba Fett served up some memorable Star Wars moments with Grogu and Din Djarin, but the latest trailer for The Mandalorian Season 3 showed the best is yet to come. As fans expressed excitement over the latest footage shown at the D23 Expo, Bo-Katan Kryze actress Katee Sackhoff shared some posts that show she’s just as obsessed with The Mandalorian as the rest of us. 

Many have spent the past couple of days online sharing and gushing about the exciting things on the way for Star Wars, and Katee Sackhoff is one of them. The actress joined in on the fun by sharing a photo of her character, Bo-Katan Kryze, as well as a short caption to her Instagram Stories. Check out the epic photo of Kryze, and Sackhoff’s short comment referring to the character: 

Katee Sackhoff is excited to talk about the return of Bo-Katan, and based on what’s shown in The Mandalorian Season 3 trailer (which was preceded by a bit of footage of the new season earlier this year), that’s not too surprising to hear. There’s definitely a different energy to the character in the few moments we see of her, and it doesn’t appear as though she’s too welcoming to Din in a conversation. Clearly, there’s some tension between them, but we could’ve guessed that would happen just from Season 2's conclusion. 

Bo-Katan proved a vital ally in Din’s mission to save Grogu in The Mandalorian Season 2, but when Din obtained the darksaber from Moff Gideon, there was a clear shift in her attitude. Din tried to simply give Bo-Katan the darksaber she wanted, but as he soon learned, the only way she could truly obtain it was by defeating him in combat. Could Bo-Katan’s tone in the Season 3 trailer mean she’s considering making a move against Din to obtain the darksaber and rebuild Mandalore? Katee Sackhoff didn’t have any answers in her other Instagram Stories post, but did continue to express her enthusiasm for the Star Wars series with a reference to the show’s most-used phrasing: 

As for Din Djarin, he’s in a weird place going into The Mandalorian Season 3. Those with a Disney+ subscription saw him reunite with Grogu in The Book Of Boba Fett, but he also lost his status as a Mandalorian within his coven. He has to make amends for removing his helmet to regain entry, so until he does that, he likely won’t have their aid. That’s some pretty poor timing, especially if Bo-Katan wants to make a move with her followers for that darksaber. 

Katee Sackhoff isn’t sharing details about what Bo-Katan may or may not be up to in The Mandalorian Season 3, and with good reason. Sackhoff explained at D23 she isn’t really in a place to say anything about the season, and doesn’t want to drop a spoiler (via Instagram):

Katee Sackhoff is going to be quiet in regards to any plot details for The Mandalorian, lest she falls off a stage and never be seen again. In all seriousness, the wait for Season 3 shouldn’t be too long at this point, so it’s good she and others are able to keep quiet about any potential spoilers.

The Mandalorian Season 3 is expected to premiere on Disney+ in February. It’s probably a bit too early to start a re-watch of the live-action now, though if someone was looking to brush up on Bo-Katan Kryze and add in a watch of Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Rebels, now is the time to start. 

While the majority of well-known sci-fi characters might not translate super-accurately if they transitioned to real life, including Battlestar Galactica’s fan-beloved Captain Starbuck, the character played by Katee Sackhoff actually DID make it to space in our reality. At least, sort of. Not long after Sackhoff was thrilled to see another one of her characters referenced on Jeopardy, she got to witness a legitimate astronaut dressing up as her iconic Battlestar Galactica character while on board the International Space Station.

Katee Sackhoff left the role of Captain Starbuck behind more than ten years ago, and has moved on to other sci-fi endeavors, but fans will forever be lovingly stuck on her iconic Battlestar Galactica character. Such admirers apparently include astronaut and space-farer Samantha Cristoforetti, as the space station visitor donned a Starbuck costume in a recent transmission to planet Earth. Sackhoff was clearly thrilled enough to drop a “frak” over the tribute to sci-fi badass, and retweeted the video of Samatha Cristoforetti's Starbuck while expressing how awesome it really is.

As you can see from the video, this is not the first time astronaut Samantha Cristoforetti has shown off her pop culture prowess by dressing as a fictional space voyager while miles above the Earth. A few years ago, she sent out a transmission while dressed as Star Trek’s Captain Kirk — William Shatner technically did go to space as well, though not in costume — and I cannot get over her dedication to sending thrills to fellow sci-fi lovers from such a specifically suitable setting.

It is a whole different kind of fan dedication than the norm, too. Just think about it: Samantha Cristoforetti obviously can’t just drop by a costume shop or order these costumes from Amazon. (Though Jeff Bezos does probably have the means to ship things to the ISS.) She has to think far enough ahead to bring those kinds of getups with her when she is gearing up to go to space. Not to mention the fact that astronauts can only take limited luggage and supplies with them, for weight-based reasons, so the costumes are technically taking up room that she could have used for other things that wouldn't necessarily catch Katee Sackhoff's attention.

Of course, I’d like to imagine that they aren’t just a one-off, and that the entirety of Samantha Cristoforetti's wardrobe is made up of sci-fi costumes that she casually dons while relaxing and working in the International Space Station. Even if she doesn’t, it really seems like she is living her best geeky life hundreds of miles above our heads. 

Now that Katee Sackhoff’s Captain Starbuck has actually gone to space, or at least as close as anyone could hope for, there are plenty of other of her sci-fi characters for Samantha Cristoforetti to choose from next time, Or maybe she already has a second Sackhoff costume in the space station. I’ve got to say, my vote is for Star Wars franchise’s Bo-Katan, which Sackhoff will continue to explore in Season 3 of The Mandalorian. 

While it might be a little less exciting that real-life space living, everyone with a Disney+ subscription will be able to catch Katee Sackhoff and the rest of The Mandalorian cast when Season 3 begins in February of next year, while we're still waiting on more updates from Peacock's impending BSG quasi-reboot.
