Grey’s Anatomy boasts a sizable number of regular cast members, and between that and budget cuts at ABC, the longtime medical series has been dealing with smaller episode counts and cast member exits. So when a character is written off the show — as was the case for Monica Beltran, Teddy Altman and Owen Hunt in Season 22 — when and how do they find out? Jason George explained the process, and I was shocked by a couple of things.

Grey’s Anatomy’s Season 22 finale featured some unexpected cliffhangers, but it was not a surprise that Kim Raver and Kevin McKidd’s characters said goodbye at the end of “Bridge Over Troubled Water.” Their exit had been confirmed well in advance, and Jason George — who plays Ben Warren — said the writers handle those situations with as much grace as possible. He told US Weekly:

So at what point in the process is showrunner Meg Marinis making a call to an actor whose character may be on the chopping block? I was surprised by what Jason George had to say:

Luckily for Jason George, not only was Ben Warren not written off Grey’s Anatomy, he was allowed to return to the series after Station 19 was canceled. It’s surprising to me that cast members are notified so early in the process that their character could be at risk, and what’s more shocking is that not every series has the same amount of respect for its cast. George said:

I simply can’t imagine how awful it would be to sit in a room with your colleagues and then everyone reads at the same time that you’ve just been fired. What an awkward situation to put everyone in. However, as Jason George said, you do hear those stories.

The Yellowstone spinoff 1923 killed off seven characters in one episode last year, and the actors say they didn’t find out until they read the script. Compare that to former Grey’s Anatomy recurrer Natalie Morales' experience after Season 21's explosive finale. She got a call from the showrunner asking if she’d return for the Season 22 premiere, and it was then that she learned that Monica was being killed off.

These are people’s livelihoods that we’re talking about here, so you’d certainly hope for such matters to be handled as delicately as possible. It’s nice to hear from Jason George that’s how it is on Grey’s Anatomy.

Ben Warren’s fate is not in question heading into Season 23, so we look forward to seeing him — and that upcoming Grey’s Anatomy Texas spinoff — hit the 2026 TV schedule this fall. For now you can stream all 22 seasons of the medical drama with a Hulu subscription or a Netflix subscription (where the recently concluded season will be available starting June 5).

In its Season 22 finale, Grey’s Anatomy bid farewell to Kim Raver and Kevin McKidd (for now at least), but I’m not quite ready to assume that means the rest of the cast is safe. We knew budget cuts would force us to lose some series regulars, and Teddy and Owen were far from the only doctors facing uncertain futures. Blue Kwan and Nick Marsh are two characters I’d call “in unstable condition,” so what’s the prognosis, according to Harry Shum Jr. and showrunner Meg Marinis?

Blue Kwan Was Fired From Grey Sloan Ahead Of The Season Finale

I’ve had my concerns for Blue Kwan ever since he chose to inject a patient with an experimental drug — against FDA orders. The surgeon was fired in the penultimate episode, but when “Bridge Over Troubled Water” aired on the 2026 TV schedule, he was allowed back due to the bridge collapse being an “all-hands-on-deck” situation. I was sure Richard Webber would reinstate him after that, but instead, he wasted no time kicking Kwan to the curb.

Harry Shum Jr. spoke about his character’s future with E! News at an AAPI changemakers dinner, where he admitted he hasn’t been told much:

Well, first things first, it doesn’t sound like Harry Shum Jr. is leaving the show. If that were the case, I’d hope the actor would have been informed by now. However, Grey’s doesn’t often follow its characters once they’ve left the hospital, so if Webber (James Pickens Jr.) is firm with his decision, how much longer could Blue last?

Does Scott Speedman Have Time To Continue Grey’s Anatomy?

When it comes to Scott Speedman, my questions about his character’s future have more to do with the actor’s schedule than Nick Marsh’s storyline. There’s a spoiler ahead if you haven’t seen the Grey’s Anatomy Season 22 finale (streaming with a Hulu subscription), but Nick survived the injuries he sustained in the bridge collapse and ended up engaged to Ellen Pompeo’s Meredith Grey by the end of the episode.

However, that was all written and filmed before his other ABC show, R.J. Decker, was renewed for a second season. Scott Speedman also appeared as a guest star on Running Point Season 2 on Netflix, so does the actor even have time for the medical drama? Showrunner Meg Marinis sounds optimistic about making it work with him and Ellen Pompeo, telling THR:

I was afraid Grey’s Anatomy might kill Nick off in the Season 22 finale, but, apparently, nobody wanted to see Meredith lose another partner after McDreamy’s death in Season 11. Let’s not forget she also dated Andrew DeLuca for a good bit before he was murdered in Season 17.

My concerns for Marsh were all for naught, because now we’re talking wedding plans?! While he and Kwan seem like the most at-risk characters on Grey’s Anatomy, the season ended with Jo Wilson on the fence about continuing to practice medicine, Miranda Bailey looking to effect change in bigger ways and several other unexpected cliffhangers, so who knows what’s going to happen in Season 23?

Until then, you can stream all 22 seasons on Hulu. The first 21 seasons are also available with a Netflix subscription, with Season 22 being added June 6.

Grey’s Anatomy is known for leaving fans with some pretty brutal cliffhangers, especially on season finales. Think back to last year’s explosion, which led us to believe Link was dead, along with who knows how many others. Combine that with Camilla Luddington’s tease of “so many cliffhangers,” and I was ready for the Season 22 finale to be a bloodbath. I was wrong, and showrunner Meg Marinis had a good explanation for why she “needed” that ending.

So, despite the penultimate episode making us think Kevin McKidd’s Grey’s Anatomy exit might come by killing off Owen Hunt, nobody died in “Bridge Over Troubled Water” (not on-screen at least; the bridge collapse did result in several casualties, we were told). Owen saved himself and a family of four, while Nick Marsh pulled through a tough surgery and ended up ENGAGED to Meredith Grey! That’s a lot of joy for a Grey’s Anatomy finale, and apparently that was exactly the point, as Meg Marinis told THR:

She pointed out that we saw quite a bit of tragedy in Season 22 — Monica Beltran’s death, Lucas Adams losing Katie (still a big mistake in my book), Richard Webber’s cancer, Jo and Link both nearly dying, etc. So rather than teasing us with more death, Meg Marinis decided to cliffhang us on relationships and career decisions. She said:

We’ve known for a while that Meredith and Nick are endgame, so I wasn’t expecting to have such an emotional reaction to their decision to make it official.

We also got Owen making the right relationship decision (for once) by deciding to move to Paris with Teddy (Kim Raver) and the kids so she could accept the great job offer. Elsewhere in the hospital, however, the showrunner pointed out:

This was definitely not the finale I expected — I’m still waiting for Owen’s unchecked head laceration to come back to bite him — but I’m pleased that it proves cliffhangers don’t have to mean putting our heroes’ lives at risk to keep interest alive in the upcoming stories.

Grey’s Anatomy Season 23 promises a lot of relationship drama and possibly new beginnings and career changes for several of the surgeons. Until then, you can relive all 22 seasons on Hulu or revisit your favorite Grey’s Anatomy era from the first 21 seasons with a Netflix subscription.

The Grey’s Anatomy finale that’s set to hit the 2026 TV schedule late Thursday doesn’t just mark the end of the medical drama’s 22nd season, but also the end of Kevin McKidd and Kim Raver’s long runs on the show. Grey’s has been setting up Owen and Teddy’s exits for weeks, and while we don’t know exactly what will cause them to leave Grey Sloan Memorial — or if they’ll even make it out alive — McKidd says he’s already pretty sure he’ll be back.

The Season 22 finale, “Bridge Over Troubled Water,” is not only Kevin McKidd’s final Grey’s Anatomy episode — as a series regular at least — but it’s also his 49th time directing. He sat down for a Good Morning America interview this week, and when asked if he’d be back to helm future episodes, McKidd said:

There’s definitely precedent for Grey’s Anatomy bringing back actors to direct after their characters leave the show. Giacomo Gianniotti directed an episode after his character Andrew DeLuca was murdered in Season 17, and Levi Schmitt portrayer Jake Borelli, was left in tears after making his directorial debut earlier in Season 22. Kim Raver has directed three episodes, the latest of which also came this season.

So directing is definitely still on the table for Kevin McKidd — especially so close to hitting that 50-episode milestone — but that doesn’t necessarily mean we won’t also see Owen Hunt or Teddy Altman ever again. Doctors from previous seasons (and canceled spinoffs, in the case of Kevin McKidd’s real-life girlfriend Danielle Savre) have a way of popping in every so often, and that’s not even contingent on the character being alive.

That’s especially important for Kevin McKidd’s trauma surgeon, because Season 22’s penultimate episode ended with Owen in a pretty precarious position following a bridge collapse. I know this is Grey’s Anatomy, and the finale will inevitably leave us with “so many cliffhangers,” but I’m hoping we at least get closure on Owen and Teddy’s stories before they disembark for new opportunities.

As for what else we can expect from “Bridge Over Troubled Water,” Ellen Pompeo will be back as Meredith Grey, who doesn’t appear to be in danger of dying (for once). Rather, it’s her partner Nick Marsh (Scott Speedman) who seemingly is injured in the same bridge collapse as Owen.

We also don’t know Blue Kwan’s (Harry Shum Jr.) fate after Richard Webber (James Pickens Jr.) fired him (off-screen) in the lead-up to the finale. We’ve also got our eyes on a few relationship storylines, and I’m personally now invested in Winston Ndugu’s irrational fear of yarn.

The stage is set for a pretty epic (and cliffhanger-filled) Grey’s Anatomy Season 22 finale next week, with the penultimate episode shaking things up all over the place. One doctor was fired, while Teddy and Owen took another step toward the door (existentially speaking, in Owen’s case), and we got a big character update in that Station 19 crossover. For me, though, what stuck out most about “Through the Fire” was Winston Ndugu’s admission of an “irrational” fear he has. Let's recap.

Honestly, the writing was on the wall for Blue Kwan (Harry Shum Jr.) the second he chose to inject a patient with an experimental drug against FDA orders, and sure enough, he was fired (off-camera) the second Webber found out Bailey had been covering for him. I don’t think he’s gone for good, though. He’s in the trailer for next week’s season finale, for one thing, so we'll have to see if and how he can get back in Webber's good graces.

More Owen And Teddy Drama Surrounds Their Impending Exits

Meanwhile, Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd) characteristically freaked out because Teddy Altman (Kim Raver) had the audacity to consider a wonderful job opportunity in Paris. Will his apology voicemail be the last time Teddy hears his voice? The bridge collapse that will dominate the season finale seemed to happen at the end of that voicemail, as Owen is cut off to the sound of crashing and mayhem.

We've known that Kevin McKidd and Kim Raver were leaving Grey's Anatomy following the Season 22 finale, and while story hints have been dropped, we haven't yet gotten a full picture of how their characters will depart — or what their relationship status will be when they do so. At this point, it seems Owen will be lucky to even survive his final episode (which, incidentally, McKidd is directing).

What Do You MEAN Carina Didn't Make An Appearance?

Lastly, we may not have seen Station 19’s Carina DeLuca return after her wife Maya Bishop (Danielle Savre) was badly injured in a fire, but we did get an update on the couple’s daughter. Carina was pregnant in the Station 19 series finale, and in the April 30 Grey’s Anatomy episode, Maya revealed that they’d named the baby Andrea DeLuca-Bishop — an obvious reference to Carina’s brother Andrew, who was murdered in Season 17.

Unlike Jason George's character Ben Warren, who was able to jump back into Grey's Anatomy after Station 19 was canceled, Stefania Spampinato was apparently not invited back to the series where Carina originated. There have been several mentions of her, as Carina canonically still works at Grey Sloan Memorial, but she seems to always be conveniently out of town when someone goes into emergency labor or her wife gets admitted with life-threatening burns. Not seeing her here was disappointing, but I still LOVE this Marina update.

Now We Have To Talk About Winston Ndugu.

Winston Ndugu and Jules Millin (Anthony Hill and Adelaide Kane) had a heart-to-heart after their plans for a sexy hotel tryst were scuttled by the blaze that injured Maya. Millin admitted that she was into crystals and that she’d seen the fire as a bad omen. Ndugu brushed off her embarrassment, saying, “Everyone has weird things.” When she looked doubtful that he could match her, he revealed:

Wait, what? Winston Ndugu, who holds hearts in his hands for a living, is afraid of YARN?! Millin confirmed it’s not just scarves, but his fear includes blankets, mittens and other creature comforts. Ndugu continued:

What a bizarre turn that took! And I am in no way mocking anyone’s actual fear of yarn. I dug into this a little, and linonophobia — the fear of string, yard or rope — is a real thing, though that’s often associated with being tied up or restrained, and it reportedly doesn’t typically affect clothing choices.

However, there are a lot of people with tactile sensitivities who may have aversions to certain fabrics, etc. Like Ndugu, those people can find ways to manage so that these things go largely undetected by others around them.

In this specific case, though, it does seem quite an interesting character trait to introduce six seasons into Ndugu’s time on the show. Was it written just so he’d have a quirk equal to Millin’s belief in the energy of crystals? If we go back through the past six seasons, will we really see no sweaters or knit scarves or anything? Is this possibly something Anthony Hill deals with in real life?

I’m thinking it’s probably the first of those options, though I’d definitely be open to Grey’s Anatomy normalizing the sensory issues that people face and often feel forced to mask.

Whether this is a developing storyline or not remains to be seen, and there’s a real good possibility I’m taking this way too seriously. But even if it was just a throwaway admission — a means to an end to get Ndugu and Millin into bed, crystals be damned — it’s a detail that I haven’t quite been able to shake.

I won’t let it distract me from everything that’s to come in next week’s season finale, though. Is Kwan gone for good? Will Owen make it out alive? Will Teddy thwart the trope of giving up Paris for a mediocre man? We don’t have to wait long to find out. The Grey’s Anatomy Season 22 finale airs at 10 p.m. ET Thursday, May 7, on ABC.

When Will Grey’s Anatomy Season 22 Be Back?

Grey’s Anatomy is taking three weeks off before concluding its 22nd season and will be back on the 2026 TV schedule at 10 p.m. ET Thursday, April 30. Airing in its place on April 9 and 16 will be reruns of R.J. Decker, ABC’s new crime drama starring Grey’s Anatomy’s Scott Speedman and Station 19 alum Jaina Lee Ortiz. On April 23, ABC’s Thursday night block will be overtaken by coverage of the 2026 NFL Draft.

Big Things Are In Store For Teddy, Owen And More In The Season Finale

When Grey’s Anatomy does resume new episodes on April 30, it will be the beginning of the end for Kevin McKidd and Kim Raver’s characters, though the series so far has done a great job of keeping fans guessing how exactly Owen and Teddy will exit the series.

First, it seemed like Owen Hunt might accept a position at a smaller hospital that hoped to use his trauma expertise to rebuild its surgical unit. Then, I thought his mother’s stroke might inspire a big change for the military vet. After seeing the preview for April 30’s “Through the Fire,” we might be lucky to see Owen even make it out alive:

Things look intense, to be sure, as Station 19’s Maya Bishop (Danielle Savre) comes into Grey Sloan via ambulance after being injured in a structure fire. This is a particularly special appearance in Kevin McKidd’s penultimate episode, as Savre is McKidd’s real-life partner.

However, Owen isn’t there to see Maya’s special guest appearance, as it appears that he was injured (and imminently drowning?!) in a bridge collapse. Scott Speedman’s Nick Marsh also gets gurneyed in, presumably from the same bridge disaster, which means Ellen Pompeo’s Meredith Grey is officially in the building, ladies and gentlemen.

All of this will set up what is sure to be an exciting and frustrating finale, as we’ve already been promised “so many cliffhangers.” One thing that we know for sure, though, is that Kevin McKidd is directing the final episode of Season 22, titled “Bridge Over Troubled Water,” facilitating his own character’s exit alongside Kim Raver’s Teddy Altman.

It’s frustrating that we’ll have to wait a few weeks to reach this conclusion, but it’s definitely one fans won’t want to miss. Catch the final two weeks of Grey’s Anatomy Season 22, starting at 10 p.m. ET Thursday, April 30, on ABC and streaming the next day on Hulu.

Grey’s Anatomy fans knew some cast reductions might be coming, as budget cuts continue to plague TV’s longest-running primetime medical series, and we got that confirmation this week. Kim Raver and Kevin McKidd announced they are leaving at the end of Season 22, which is currently airing on the 2026 TV schedule, and as the reason for their impending exits starts to become clear, I’m actually more worried that Blue Kwan’s latest actions may end with us losing that character as well.

Did Grey’s Anatomy Just Give Us A Peek At Teddy And Owen’s Future?

In “Take Me to the River,” we learn that Owen Hunt has recently been offered a job at Cascade Hill, a smaller hospital with fewer resources, where he and Teddy are helping out for the day. More than once there is talk of Owen “leaving,” as in, leaving Grey-Sloan for a new job, but the clear subcontext is Teddy not wanting their relationship to end.

Owen ultimately turns down the offer, but I’ve got a feeling that’s not the last we’ve heard of Cascade Hill. In fact, I wonder if the events of next week’s episode, “Feel It Still,” will have an impact on his and Teddy’s future, after his mom suffers a stroke. Check out the preview:

My theory is that this family emergency will lead Teddy and Owen to realize their expertise would be more valuable to the smaller facility, and they’ll choose to leave Grey-Sloan together.

Meanwhile, it seemed like Grey’s Anatomy might be setting up another character exit, and I did not see this wild Blue story coming.

Will Kwan’s Actions Result In Him Leaving The Hospital Too?

For better or worse, Grey’s Anatomy has a long history of its surgeons breaking the law to better serve their patients, and while I’d rarely condone such actions in real life, it’s always thrilling to watch fictional stories like Izzie cutting Denny’s LVAD wire or Meredith tampering with an Alzheimer’s trial. Blue Kwan (Harry Shum Jr.) is the latest example.

Kwan got emotionally invested in single dad Quinn, who came in with Stage IV cancer, and his teenage son. Kwan was around the same age when he lost his mom, so he was desperate to buy them some more time together, and despite the FDA rejecting Miranda Bailey’s request to inject her experimental gel, Kwan secretly did it anyway.

This didn’t work out well for him, as Bailey (Chandra Wilson) figured out immediately what he had done, and we’ll continue to see the fallout from that next week, as both her and Kwan’s careers could be on the line.

I don’t see anything happening to Bailey, because even if Grey’s Anatomy has to lose some characters, they’re not messing with the OGs. Kwan, however, is a different story, because in what world does this not end with him — at the very least — losing his medical license?

Well, that would be the world of Grey’s Anatomy, where anything is possible and jail time is almost always avoided. We’ve got three episodes of Season 22 left, so tune in at 10 p.m. ET Thursdays on ABC and streaming the next day on Hulu.

Then the actors' episode counts were reduced, resulting in us seeing less of our favorite surgeons. Now we're losing two more long-running characters with Teddy and Owen. McKidd took to Instagram to speak about his long tenure as Hunt, posting:

While I've watched every season of Grey's Anatomy, Kevin McKidd actually breaking down how many years he's been portraying Owen Hunt is still shocking. That's nearly two decades! In addition to acting as the trauma surgeon, he's also directed 48 episodes of the series at the time of writing this story. He'll reportedly be behind the camera for a few more episodes before departing at the end of Season 22.

In McKidd's post, which was shared to his 2.7 million followers on Instagram, he spoke about not expecting to have such a long job when he first showed up as Owen Hunt. He also admitted to struggling with his career prior to finding a home on Grey's Anatomy. As he went on:

"For now" will likely offer some hope for fans hoping to see Owen pop back up on Grey's after Season 22. Indeed, the show has a habit of bringing back former series regulars for guest appearances. In recent years, we saw the return of Kate Walsh's Addison, Jesse Williams' Jackson Avery, and Greg Germann's Tom Koracick.

Not to be left out, Kim Raver also took to Instagram to speak about her tenure playing Teddy Altman. While she left for a few seasons in the middle of that run, Teddy is another beloved character who has been around for over a decade. The actress posted:

Teddy was first introduced in Season 6 as a guest actor, before becoming a series regular later in that season. Her relationship with Owen has been at the heart of her story throughout most of that time, so it makes sense that the characters would depart Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital at the same time. Later in her post, she thanked the fans of the show, writing:

It's really hard to imagine Grey's without these two long-running characters. And if the show continues running into Season 23, it'll seemingly be more focused on the newer class of surgeons. While we've still got Jo Wilson and Amelia Shepard in the cast, it feels like we're losing all the characters that we've been following through the years.

Grey's Anatomy airs new episodes on Thursdays as part of the 2026 TV schedule. Luckily, we still have a few more episodes with Teddy and Owen before they depart the hospital.

There are long-running TV dramas, and then there's Grey's Anatomy. We're currently in the middle of Season 22 on ABC (and streaming with a Hulu subscription), and the medical drama is going through another huge casting change. And while I'm a fan, I'm starting to think this could be the beginning of the end.

Grey's Anatomy's original stars have largely left the show, with there being just three OG's left: Ellen Pompeo (who only appears part-time), Chandra Wilson, and James Pickens Jr.. THR just revealed that that we're losing two longtime actors: Kevin McKidd and Kim Raver aka Owen Hunt and Teddy Altman. And this is likely going to bring some doubt into longtime Grey's fans about how long the show could really keep going.

Both actors will stay on until the end of Season 22, with the season finale marking their last episode. McKidd will also direct the finale episode. That being said, plenty of departed actors have popped up with guest appearances, so it doesn't mean we won't ever see them again. Showrunner Meg Marinis went so far as to say "this is never truly a goodbye" with the announcement of their departures.

This casting shakeup comes after a number of other BTS changes to the show. The cast have seen their episode count shortened presumably for budgetary reasons. And we've lost a ton of stars in the last few seasons, making the cast now largely made up of the new class of interns.

McKidd made his debut as Owen back in Season 5, growing into a series regular and a director of an impressive 48 episodes throughout the years. Ravers debuted back in 2009, and was a guest actor before becoming a series regular. She'd eventually leave for three seasons, before returning as the trauma surgeon. It's hard to imagine the show without Owen and Teddy at this point, who have gone through a ton of ups and downs in their decade and change on the beloved series.

I'm a longtime Grey's Anatomy fan, and it remains one of my favorite shows ever... specifically the first 10 seasons or so. I've been wondering if it might wrap up its story, especially now that Ellen Pompeo's Meredith Grey only appears a few times a season (besides her iconic narration). Personally I feel like losing two more long-time characters could be a sign to wrap things up, but I'll still be watching until the time it ends its impressive tenure on ABC.

Heartbreaking news hit the entertainment industry on Thursday, when Eric Dane’s family confirmed that the 53-year-old actor had passed away less than a year after he revealed that he’d been diagnosed with ALS. Dane was known for series like Euphoria and his appearance on Brilliant Minds, where his portrayal of a character with ALS earned him a standing ovation from the cast and crew. For many, though, Dane was best known as Mark Sloan, aka “McSteamy” from Grey’s Anatomy, and many former co-stars from the medical drama paid tribute following the sad news.

With James Pickens Jr. being one of only two Grey’s Anatomy stars serving as series regulars on all 22 seasons, he was there for all of Eric Dane’s 145 episodes. Pickens posted a photo to Instagram Stories in remembrance of the actor:

Eric Dane joined Grey’s Anatomy in Season 2 and was a series regular through Season 8, with Mark Sloan getting killed off at the beginning of Season 9. McSteamy made a posthumous return in Season 17 alongside other killed-off characters like Lexie Grey, George O’Malley and Derek “McDreamy” Shepherd.

McDreamy and McSteamy were best friends on Grey’s Anatomy (when one wasn’t sleeping with the other’s wife, at least), and according to Patrick Dempsey, that friendship existed off-camera as well. Speaking on The Chris Evans Breakfast Show on February 20, the actor laughed as he described Eric Dane as “the funniest man” and “such a joy to work with,” but admitted:

Eric Dane said in June 2025 that it made him “angry” that ALS was going to take him away from his two teenage daughters, and it’s devastating to think of what his family is going through and what they've already been through.

Patrick Dempsey said he hopes to just remember his friend's spirit and how “he brought so much fun to” the Grey’s Anatomy set. He continued:

Kevin McKidd, meanwhile, released a statement to Page Six, also acknowledging Eric Dane’s humor and saying that no matter how long it’s been since he appeared on the show, his portrayal of Mark “McSteamy” Sloan will always be an important part of Grey’s Anatomy’s history. The Owen Hunt actor said:

After announcing his diagnosis in April 2025, Eric Dane continued to act (and will reportedly appear on the long-awaited Euphoria Season 3) and advocate for other families affected by ALS. The above tributes and those from other former colleagues who championed his “fight not flight” attitude show how much Dane will be missed.

Our condolences go out to Eric Dane’s family, friends and anyone else affected by his passing.

Grey’s Anatomy has always been about the romantic connections between its doctors as much as anything else, and that’s certainly true as Season 22 plays out on the 2026 TV schedule. While much of the recent focus has gone to fan-favorite spouses Jo and Link, given their individual fights for survival, there’s always something brewing with Teddy and Owen. Kim Raver opened up about what’s to come from their “fun and frustrating” relationship, and now I’m worried they’re going to get back together.

Teddy Altman and Owen Hunt (Kim Raver and Kevin McKidd) are one of Grey’s Anatomy’s longest-standing couples, though it’s been a rocky road, to say the least. After deciding to separate in the Season 21 finale, the latest episodes have seen them settling into a friendly, professional place with each other. But this is Teddy and Owen we’re talking about here, so how long can that realistically last? Raver acknowledged as much, telling TV Insider:

In other words, don’t get too comfortable! The ups and downs of Owen and Teddy’s relationship could be a series unto itself, with the two pining secretly for each other for years, then battling bad timing, as Owen was married to Amelia Shepherd and Teddy was dating (and cheating on Owen with) Tom Koracick.

Even after they had a baby together and got married, things were rarely peaceful between them, especially after they chose to open their marriage in Season 21. That ultimately led to Teddy walking away, after Owen developed feelings for Nora — a childhood friend of his sister’s and Teddy’s patient — and they slept together.

If that all sounds like a lot, it is, and Kim Raver suggests that’s not going to change, as she said:

Kim Raver teased that Grey’s Anatomy Season 22 was going to get “messy,” and I can’t help but wonder if her character is involved. As much drama as Teddy and Owen bring to the show, I’ve never been a fan of the toxic couple — particularly Owen, who I think is one of Grey’s Anatomy’s worst overall love interests.

I’m hoping that instead of retreading Teddy and Owen’s insecurities through an on-off dynamic, Grey’s Anatomy explores the characters as a separated/divorced couple who are still working together and co-parenting. That would allow them to maintain that entertaining, complicated relationship without making me feel like downing my bottle of wine when they inevitably run back to each other.

The wait is over! Grey’s Anatomy Season 22 is set to resume on the 2026 TV schedule on January 8, and I have to admit the weeks since that fall finale cliffhanger haven’t been too rough — probably because we got the good news of Kate Walsh’s impending return to hold us over. As for what to expect from the rest of the season, Kim Raver says things are going to get “messy,” and I’ve got some guesses about what she means.

Kim Raver Teases ‘Shock’ And ‘Surprise’ To Come On Grey’s Anatomy Season 22

We last left our beloved Seattle medical professionals in quite a dire state — at least for some. Jo Wilson (Camilla Luddington) was experiencing heart failure as Winston Ndugu (Anthony Hill) prepared to deliver her twins via emergency C-section. We also learned that Richard Webber (James Pickens Jr.) has been diagnosed with prostate cancer. There was plenty of relationship drama as well, of course, and Kim Raver revealed her reaction to getting the new scripts, telling US Weekly:

Kim Raver’s character Teddy Altman might very well be a part of that messy situation, as she continues to navigate her separation from husband Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd). Whatever it is, though, she sounds excited — and it sounds pretty major, as she continued:

So what could these shocking twists be?

Here Are My Theories On What Could Get 'Messy'

Of course, the January 8 episode “Skyfall” will reveal Jo’s fate and the fate of her and Atticus Lincoln’s (Chris Carmack) babies. Camilla Luddington has warned that the midseason premiere is even worse than the fall finale for Jo, but if anything happens to her or either one of the twins, that would be enough to make me rage-quit this series.

That said, I predict that at least some of the mess to come involves the doctors’ love lives. The fall finale saw Nora (Floriana Lima) call things off with Owen, and there is always so much potential for messiness when it comes to Owen and Teddy. I just hope they don’t get back together.

All apologies to Niko Terho’s Lucas Adams — forget Skywalker, I’m calling him McBroody — because I’m kind of on board with whatever Simone Griffith (Alexis Floyd) has going on with Wes Bryant (Trevor Jackson).

Kim Raver also mentioned that she’s set to direct an episode centering around Meredith Grey and Nick Marsh (Ellen Pompeo and Scott Speedman), and while they have become one of Grey’s Anatomy’s most solid couples, I’m wondering if they might be responsible for one of Season 22’s bigger surprises.

As far as someone I don’t think is in danger, I predict that Richard Webber will be OK. The character’s cancer diagnosis comes alongside James Pickens Jr.’s revelation that he is now cancer-free after his own prostate cancer was caught early. He has been an advocate for early and regular screenings, particularly for Black men, and I think this storyline is going to be used to further the important message that early detection saves lives.

All in all, I’m just glad Grey’s Anatomy has returned, and I can’t wait for whatever twists the medical drama has in store. Catch new episodes at 10 p.m. ET Thursdays on ABC and streaming the next day with a Hulu subscription.

Much of the conversation surrounding Grey’s Anatomy’s impending return to the 2025 TV schedule revolves around the explosion that closed out last season. The Grey Sloan Memorial operating room wasn’t the only thing that blew up in “How Do I Live,” though, as Teddy and Owen’s marriage also went up in flames. Does that open the door for Sophia Bush’s Cass to return in Season 22? Showrunner Meg Marinis shared her thoughts, and I’ve got some strong opinions of my own.

In Season 21, Teddy Altman and Owen Hunt (Kim Raver and Kevin McKidd) decided — for, like, five minutes — to open their marriage. During that time, Teddy had a hot makeout sesh with Cass Beckman but decided she wanted to remain faithful to Owen. The trauma surgeon, meanwhile, had no such hangups, sleeping with his sister’s childhood friend Nora (Floriana Lima). Now that Teddy and Owen are no more, is it possible she and Cass could pick up where they left off? Meg Marinis told TVLine:

After her hookup with Owen, Nora — who was in Seattle seeking medical care from Teddy — thought she was dying, so she professed her love to her best friend’s brother. I rightly predicted that Teddy would figure out a way to save her life, but I may have been wrong about that complicating the situation.

Instead, when Owen refused to reveal if he reciprocated Nora feelings — only saying he was willing to cut her out of his life to save his and Teddy’s marriage — Teddy surprised me by choosing to walk away. Maybe, possibly, finally, this time for good.

I think Owen in general is one of Grey’s Anatomy’s worst love interests, and his and Teddy’s toxic relationship lasted too long. I'd love nothing more than to see Teddy explore something different.

I loved when Cass mixed things up for Teddy and Owen in Season 21, and Meg Marinis sounds ready to bring the character back, as she continued:

Please, I’m begging the writers to do all of the fun things they can think of with Cass, and no character is more deserving to partake in that fun than Teddy. It doesn’t hurt that she’d get to rub it in Owen’s face, either.

Sophia Bush has not been confirmed for Season 22, but Floriana Lima is set to recur, so there’s still a lot of juice left in this story. We also need to find out if Link (or anyone else) died in the explosion (and I've got a wild theory about that, too). Thankfully the long wait is almost over.

Teddy and Owen have really been through it this season on Grey’s Anatomy. Well, actually that’s true of their entire relationship, but it definitely includes the events on the 2025 TV schedule. After a truly complicated situation with Owen’s childhood friend Nora, I’ve got a crazy prediction about what’s to come for the trio. Of course, that’s assuming everyone survives Season 21, because the preview for next week’s “How Do I Live” teased quite the explosive finale.

Season 21 Finale Trailer Reveals A Hostage Situation In The OR

Let’s start with what we can expect in the season finale and work our way back to Teddy and Owen. It was, in fact, Teddy Altman portrayer Kim Raver who said the final episode of Grey’s Anatomy Season 21 was “terrifying,” and now we have an idea why. In the most recent episode we saw 9-year-old Dylan suffering from Locked-in Syndrome following brain surgery, and it appears her mother Jenna (Piper Perabo) is moved to desperate measures in “How Do I Live.” Check out the preview:

It turns out Piper Perabo really will channel her Yellowstone character — you remember Summer, the rare person ballsy/stupid enough to challenge Beth Dutton? Let’s just say that in all of Yellowstone’s most brutal moments, only one involved a physical altercation between two women.

The episode description for Grey’s Anatomy’s Season 21 finale promises “a medical emergency unfolds in the operating room, endangering lives inside the hospital,” and now it’s clear that Jenna is holding Amelia (Caterina Scorsone), Simone (Alexis Floyd) and others hostage with an explosive unless they can help Dylan.

However, I’ve got a feeling those won’t be the only fireworks in Grey Sloan.

I Think Teddy Is Going To Find A Way To Save Nora, Complicating Their Love Triangle

Teddy and Kevin McKidd’s Owen have been on quite the roller coaster this season. After Teddy admitted that she was attracted to Cass Beckman (Sophia Bush), the couple decided to open up their marriage. However, while Teddy balked at hooking up with Cass, Owen actually did sleep with Nora (Floriana Lima), his sister’s childhood friend who was receiving medical care from Teddy.

In “Love You Like a Love Song,” Teddy did everything she could for Nora but ultimately decided that any further surgery would stop her heart. After learning of her prognosis, Nora professed her love for Owen, thinking it didn’t matter since she was dying. However, I don’t think that’s the case.

Nora survived the surgery, for one thing, so already it seems unlikely they’re just going to kill her off. Also, Teddy continued to think about other possible solutions throughout Jo and Link’s wedding. I think Teddy is going to save Nora’s life, and the situation between the three of them is going to be even more complicated now that Nora said she’s in love with Owen.

The question is, does Owen love Nora back? We didn’t hear him reciprocate (his, “I don’t know what to say,” was pretty noncommital), but Teddy did catch them sharing quite the tender moment at the end of the episode. Will nearly losing Nora cause Owen to realize that he has always been in love with his sister’s friend? Will they become a throuple? I don’t know, but I think this story is far from over.

The hostage situation will likely take up the majority of the drama in the upcoming season finale, so I wouldn’t be surprised if either Nora’s survival or some aspect of this love triangle is cliffhanged for Season 22. All in all, it sounds like it’s going to be a wild finale, so tune in at 10 p.m. ET Thursday, May 15, on ABC.

Grey’s Anatomy returned to the 2025 TV schedule with a literal bang Thursday night as we learned who got shot in the winter finale cliffhanger. Jo and Lucas both made it out relatively unscathed — at least for now — but the truth is, “Hit the Floor” laid the groundwork for them and several other Grey Sloan doctors to hit some serious bumps in the road for the remainder of Season 21. However, of everyone who faces trouble ahead, it’s Jules Millin I’m most worried about.

What Disasters Await Grey’s Anatomy’s Surgeons?

Things were feeling extra shaky around the hospital on the March 6 midseason premiere, and while Lucas Adams (Niko Terho) escaped the convenience store shooting with (physically) just a flesh wound, the psychological aspects will likely haunt him for way longer. After refusing to get cleared by psych before returning to work, McDreamy’s nephew suffered a full-on panic attack after hearing a loud noise reminiscent of a gunshot.

Longtime Grey’s fans know that Lucas’ grandfather — Derek and Amelia Shepherd’s dad — was fatally shot in a convenience store robbery, so I doubt this is the last we’ll see of this situation, especially with Lucas still not seeking professional help. Will this be the impetus for us to finally learn who Lucas’s mother is?

As for Jo Wilson (Camilla Luddington), the hostage situation did put some stress on her pregnancy, and she’s definitely going to have to take it easy. However, I’m not too worried about her since she and Link (Chris Carmack) re-established some healthy communication by the end of “Hit the Floor.”

Grey’s Anatomy name-dropped Carina DeLuca again, but the Station 19 fan favorite didn't make an appearance (she was conveniently in Italy when Jo came in bleeding from the convenience store in need of her OB/GYN). However, Carina's former colleague Ben Warren (Jason George) was certainly present — and pissing off Teddy Altman (Kim Raver) at every turn.

Ben has flown in the face of authority for years, and he's gotten away with it because his reckless actions tend to save lives. That kind of insubordination isn't going to fly with the military veteran, though. And Teddy made it pretty clear that Ben better remember his rank or he won't make it through his residency. I'm sure he also didn't do himself any favors by lying to his wife about what happened, because when has anything good ever come from lying to Miranda Bailey?

As for what’s going down between Teddy and Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd), Owen may have passed up the opportunity to cheat with Nora (Floriana Lima), but I’d imagine it would take little more than eye contact between Teddy and Cass Beckman to make him fly into a jealous rage, aka Nora’s bed. Stay tuned.

Speaking of ill-fated romance, we’ve also got Blue Kwan (Harry Shum Jr.) going full Mark Sloan “If you love someone, you tell them” with his ex-fiancée (the one who has amnesia and a boyfriend). It was cute, but I don’t feel good about it, guys.

However, of all this brewing tragedy, none of these are the story I’m most worried about for the remainder of Season 21.

Jules Millin Is Not OK Following Mika Yasuda’s Exit

Before Grey’s Anatomy’s long hiatus, we saw Mika Yasuda say her goodbyes to Grey Sloan, unable to return to the hospital where her sister, Chloe, died. However, left in the wake of her big decision was Jules, who had been putting her romantic feelings for Mika on the back burner while Mika dealt with Chloe’s sickness and then her death.

In the winter finale, Jules and Mika finally slept together, with the former promising they’d figure things out together. However, that intimate moment gave Mika clarity that she needed to leave to move forward, and she immediately quit.

In “Hit the Floor,” the effects of that decision are still weighing heavy on Jules (after all, it is still, somehow, the same day she went off on Bailey for letting Mika leave), and Adelaide Kane told The Wrap that her character is shutting down her feelings rather than working through them. She said:

We’ve already seen this start to play out, as Jules failed to secure a patient to the gurney, causing him to fall to the floor in the middle of surgery. What worries me the most is that Jules feels so alone and seems to be distancing herself from the other residents. She came clean to Webber that the O.R. mishap was her fault, but she didn't apologize to Simone, who had to shoulder the blame.

In the other situations above, at least those doctors aren’t alone in their tribulations and bad decision-making. I'm honestly afraid of what will happen if Jules continues to withdraw without Mika; she's got no one to lean on there. The preview for the March 13 episode, “Jump (For My Love),” shows Jules crying over not having a team. Check it out for yourself:

Team-building exercises are always fun to witness, and I can't wait to see what else comes from next week's episode other than Jules continuing to spiral. It also looks like we'll be getting Ellen Pompeo back, with Richard Webber (James Pickens Jr.) still upset that Meredith Grey didn't tell him about his wife's cancer.

Grey’s Anatomy has pretty much guaranteed an eventual second half to its 21st season, so keep your eye on these characters who have the highest potential for disaster when the medical drama returns at 10 p.m. ET Thursday, March 13, on ABC and streaming the next day on Hulu.

Grey’s Anatomy has always been known for its relationships as much as for the medicine being practiced, so it was no surprise that when the spinoff Station 19 debuted in 2018 (before its heartbreaking cancellation in 2024), several love connections were made between the two shows. As the firefighters kept things hot with the Grey Sloan surgeons on-screen, a real-life romance formed between Danielle Savre and Kevin McKidd. Following their holiday in Scotland, Savre — who played Maya Bishop on Station 19 — posted some adorably lovey-dovey pics with the Grey’s actor, and fans are apparently just finding out they’re a couple.

Fans have to wait for Grey’s Anatomy’s return to the 2025 TV schedule in March to find out just how much trouble Owen Hunt’s relationship is in, but for the actor portraying the military veteran, love was definitely in the air this Christmas. Danielle Savre shared a bunch of pics and videos to Instagram that showed her fun and romantic Scottish vacation with her partner of over a year:

That’s right, Danielle Savre and Kevin McKidd went public with their relationship back in June 2023, when the Grey’s Anatomy star posted a video of them vacationing in Zambia. However, the above post was a shock to many fans of the Shonda Rhimes creations, and they took to the comments to say so, writing:

Kevin McKidd and Danielle Savre apparently first shared the screen during a Grey’s Anatomy crossover event with Station 19 in 2020, but their characters were never romantically involved. Owen Hunt has primarily been with Teddy Altman (Kim Raver), while Maya Bishop was married to Stefania Spampinato’s Carina DeLuca.

There was hope following Station 19’s cancellation that Carina might return to Grey’s Anatomy like Jason George’s Ben Warren, since both characters originated on the medical drama. With Carina being pregnant, that also seemingly left the door open for Danielle Savre to make a guest appearance as Maya. However, Maya’s story was wrapped up pretty well in the future-casting series finale, and despite fans’ enduring hope, there’s been no indication that Carina will return to Grey’s Anatomy.

Danielle Savre has moved on anyway, signing on for Season 2 of NBC’s Found, which returns at 10 p.m. ET Thursday, January 16. Fans of this couple will have to wait a bit longer for Kevin McKidd’s return, as Grey’s Anatomy will remain on hiatus until its return to ABC at 10 p.m. ET Thursday, March 6. For those who want to go back and see how often these two shared the screen, every episode of Grey’s Anatomy and Station 19 are available to stream with a Hulu subscription.

Grey’s Anatomy has had a pretty eventful last couple of weeks on the 2024 TV schedule. Those big character exits are finally happening, with Levi Schmitt deciding to take a job in Texas, and tragedy striking Mika Yasuda after her big car crash. However, we can’t ignore that amidst all the action and drama, one Sophia Bush made her highly anticipated Grey’s debut as Dr. Cass Beckman. The actress had high praise for the medical drama’s set, and as she teased more appearances to come on Season 21, I can’t wait to see how it will affect Teddy Altman and Owen Hunt.

Cass’ introduction in “Night Moves” — available to stream with a Hulu subscription — proved to be an issue for Owen (Kevin McKidd), when she spontaneously kissed Teddy (Kim Raver) after a few drinks. Owen, who I’ve long thought to be one of Grey’s Anatomy’s worst love interests, immediately blamed his wife for leading Cass on, despite Teddy immediately shutting Cass down and emphasizing that her marriage was not open. Sophia Bush apparently has no trouble being the troublemaker, and she raved to ET about her experience on ABC hit’s set:

Wait, are we going to see Cass Beckman performing surgery? What could happen that results in the Seattle Presbyterian trauma surgeon operating at Grey Sloan? Whatever’s coming up, it sounds like Sophia Bush is excited to be back in the fictional O.R. after previously starring on Good Sam, a 2022 medical drama that only lasted one season on CBS.

We’ll have to wait to see exactly what happens when Cass pops back up, as she only said:

I’m willing to bet that also means the drama between Cass, Teddy and Owen is far from over, and I am so here for it. Owen may have eventually come around to apologize to Teddy for over-reacting, but I don’t think that’s going to matter much if and when he comes face to face with the woman who kissed his wife and suggested that an open marriage might help them out of their slump.

Or maybe Owen will surprise me by being into Cass’ idea, and we’ll get some of those steamier storylines allowed by its new timeslot. Either way, I’m all in for more Sophia Bush on Grey’s Anatomy.

The actress didn’t specify when she’ll be back on the show, but fans would surely love to see her in this week’s episode “Drop It Like It’s Hot” — airing at 10 p.m. ET Thursday, November 21, on ABC — since this is the fall finale and the last episode until Grey’s Anatomy returns to the 2025 TV schedule in March.

Grey’s Anatomy wrapped up its 20th season on Thursday with an emotional finale that included a natural disaster, some huge revelations about some of our favorite Seattle surgeons and one grand gesture involving Miranda Bailey and the interns to keep us in suspense until fall. Before all that, though, the cast showed off some major Kenergy, as the guys of Grey Sloan Memorial re-created Ryan Gosling’s viral “I’m Just Ken” performance from the Academy Awards, going viral themselves for their impassioned take on the Barbie musical number.

Chris Carmack, who plays Atticus Lincoln on Grey’s Anatomy, led the way, looking very much the part of Barbie’s companion. This is one TikTok video you just have to see for yourself: 

Just like Ryan Gosling started his Oscars number sitting behind Margot Robbie, Chris Carmack — wearing a fuzzy white jacket over his pink scrubs and a rainbow-colored cowboy hat — was seated behind Camilla Luddington, who plays Link’s on-screen love interest Jo Wilson. Luddington and Natalie Morales (who joined Season 20 as Monica Beltran) gave the same classic reactions as Robbie and Billie Eilish, as Carmack stood up and continued the number with the hospital’s other Kens. 

Kevin McKidd and Anthony Hill (aka Drs. Owen Hunt and Winston Ndugu) were chief amongst them, with Jake Borelli — who will end his time as Levi Schmitt in Season 21 — strumming his guitar. Niko Terho (McDreamy’s nephew, Lucas Adams) gave his signature smolder, Harry Shum Jr. (Blue Kwan) made a brief appearance, and even Richard Webber portrayer James Pickens Jr. got in on the fun.

Fans seemed to love the Barbie-inspired number, with comments including:

The boys were no doubt inspired by their co-stars, as Camilla Luddington and the Grey’s Anatomy women went full Barbie earlier this year in celebration of Jessica Capshaw’s return as Arizona Robbins.

It’s wonderful to see the cast having so much fun and making viral videos — especially ones that don’t involve them scrubbing in on real surgeries — but things may not be as “beachy” as they appear. Grey’s Anatomy will be in a new timeslot when Season 21 hits the 2024 TV schedule, and budget cuts could mean less screen time for cast members across the board. The longtime medical drama keeps losing cast members, too, with news of Midori Francis’ exit coming just days after Jake Borelli’s. 

The head honchos at ABC don’t seem too concerned, however, and the Grey’s Anatomy loyal will likely be more than willing to shift their Thursday viewing parties in order to keep watching all of the delicious Seattle drama. While we wait, all 20 seasons of the series are available to stream with a Hulu subscription, should you want to rewatch Grey’s Anatomy from the starting point of your favorite era.

Back on Grey’s Anatomy’s Season 18 finale, Owen Hunt found himself in a lot of trouble when it was learned he had broken the law to provide dignified deaths to terminally ill war veterans, forcing him and Teddy Altman to go on the lam. As the Season 20 finale approaches in just two weeks, the couple finds themselves in trouble again — unbeknownst to Owen, because this time around Teddy’s the one with the secret. What’s more, it looks like it’s Owen’s big idea that may wind up being Teddy’s — and Meredith Grey’s —  downfall. Let’s break it down: 

What Happened In ‘Blood, Sweat And Tears’? 

Teddy (Kim Raver) and Owen (Kevin McKidd) decided to take a much-needed day off and go on a hike. And of course, because none of the medical professionals can ever go into civilian life without encountering someone in a life-or-death situation, they happened upon a father and daughter who had fallen into a hole or cave of some sort, with the dad badly injuring his leg. 

Owen was able to talk the daughter Rosie through packing her father’s wound and fashioning a tourniquet, after which she noted to the trauma surgeon that what she’d needed to do hadn’t been hard, but if he hadn’t been there, she wouldn’t have known what she was supposed to do. This inspired an idea in Owen, as he said the hospital could put out training videos — like what’s done for CPR — for other simple life-saving techniques like how to stop a bleed. 

He approached Teddy with the idea, suggesting they use hospital funds to pay for the project, and that’s where things are going to get sticky for ole Dr. Altman.

Why Does Owen’s Project Mean Trouble For Teddy? 

For the duration of Season 20 — since Catherine Fox (Debbie Allen) cut the funding on Meredith Grey’s (Ellen Pompeo) radical Alzheimer’s research — Teddy has been using Grey Sloan Memorial’s discretionary funds to allow Meredith to secretly continue working. Not wanting to blur the lines between husband/wife and hospital chief/hospital employee, Owen bypassed Teddy when it came to the request to fund his training project and went straight to Catherine.

Catherine said she’d take a look at the discretionary fund and get back to him, and holy hell, somebody needs to jump in between her and the computer or throw her cellphone in water or something to stop her! I wouldn’t want to be anywhere in her vicinity when she discovers that Teddy has been using what is effectively the Catherine Fox Foundation’s money (as majority owner of the hospital) to fund the research that Catherine told Meredith in no uncertain terms to stop immediately.

Heads are going to roll, I can practically guarantee that, but how many? Will Teddy be demoted from chief of surgery or even fired? Will Meredith lose her job at the Catherine Fox Foundation? Will Amelia Shepherd (Caterina Scorsone) be implicated for helping Meredith? Will Catherine’s head just straight-up explode? 

Whatever is about to happen, it’s not going to be pretty, and poor Owen has no idea the domino of destruction he just knocked down. Tune in to see how it all plays out, with just two episodes remaining in Season 20. Spoiler alert! This story discusses the Season 19 finale of Grey’s Anatomy, which aired May 18.

Grey’s Anatomy jam-packed a lot of drama into its two-hour Season 19 finale, including a big decision for Meredith (yes, Ellen Pompeo was back!) and several changes on the relationship front. However, the second episode ended on a huge cliffhanger, with Teddy Altman collapsing on the floor of the operating room, unresponsive as her husband Owen Hunt desperately tried to revive her. As the longtime series wrapped for a longer-than-usual hiatus, fans were left not knowing if Teddy would live or die — unless they happened to read the news regarding contract negotiations, that is.

Just hours before Ellen Pompeo made her return to Grey’s Anatomy and Kim Raver’s character received several shocks with a defibrillator, Deadline confirmed that a handful of series veterans had finalized new contracts for the ABC drama’s 20th season — including Raver. This was basically a huge spoiler, since we can pretty easily assume that with the actress signing on for the upcoming season, Teddy does not, in fact, die on the OR floor. 

Is it possible that Teddy does die and appears in Season 20 as a ghost? Sure, Grey’s Anatomy has brought plenty of characters back for posthumous cameos, but never in a main role, and I don’t see them starting that trend with Kim Raver’s character. However, we don’t know what her condition will be when she wakes up from the seemingly near-fatal toothache, so that does remain a mystery.

In addition to the Dr. Altman portrayer, it was confirmed that OG stars James Pickens Jr. and Chandra Wilson will also be back for their 20th season on the show as Richard Webber and Miranda Bailey, respectively. Kevin McKidd will also return as Owen Hunt, Camilla Luddington will get to continue her brand new romance with Chris Carmack’s Link, and Caterina Scorsone will continue to carry on the Shepherd legacy as Amelia. The door has reportedly also been left open for Ellen Pompeo to make more guest appearances, but nothing has been confirmed.

The five new cast members introduced in Season 19’s quasi-reboot — Alexis Floyd, Niko Terho, Midori Francis, Harry Shum Jr. and Adelaide Kane — have not had their options picked up yet, but are reportedly all expected to return. This follows the exit of three big players on Grey’s Anatomy this season, as Ellen Pompeo stepped back as a series regular and Kelly McCreary left after nine seasons of playing Maggie Pierce. Thursday’s finale also served as Krista Vernoff’s final episodes as showrunner, leaving Meg Marinis in charge going forward.

While the contract negotiations seemed to confirm Teddy Altman’s fate, Kim Raver was one of the series vets who had addressed their future on the show ahead of the Season 19 finale, saying she was “trying to stay very in the moment.” Raver made her Grey’s Anatomy directorial debut this season on the episode “Training Day,” so we’ll have to see if her continued relationship with the show results in more turns behind the camera.

Knowing that Teddy will be back at Grey Sloan next season kind of takes the wind out of the sails of the season finale cliffhanger, but at least we aren’t being kept in suspense over the long summer months. The future of Grey’s Anatomy seems to be safe for now, as the medical drama has already been renewed for a 20th season, following the addition of five new interns in Season 19 to re-engage the longtime fans. However, which of our beloved Seattle surgeons will make it to next season feels increasingly up in the air, as Ellen Pompeo stepping down as a series regular was followed by showrunner Krista Vernoff announcing her own exit and Kelly McCreary’s goodbye episode(s) coming April 13. 

Several of Grey’s Anatomy’s veteran cast members — including Chandra Wilson, Kevin McKidd, and Kim Raver — have spoken candidly on this very issue, so let’s take a look at where they stand. 

Chandra Wilson (Miranda Bailey)  

Chandra Wilson is one of the two main actors remaining who have been there from the very beginning. Although her character Miranda has been doing important work this season, there have been threats to her safety. If Wilson has anything to say about it, however, her character isn’t going anywhere. The actress told People in early April: 

Being with the show for the length of its run has apparently always been the goal — even if nobody could have expected it to be going strong 20 seasons in.  

James Pickens Jr. (Richard Webber)

The show’s first chief of surgery, Richard Webber has also been there from the jump. As the man portraying the doctor, James Pickens Jr. maintains that he’ll be around “as long as they want me.” In fact, he told ET at this year’s PaleyFest: 

It’s hard to imagine losing any of the characters who have been around for a while, so it’s especially comforting to hear that both of the remaining OGs seem to be happy right where they are. 

Kevin McKidd (Owen Hunt)

Kevin McKidd may not have quite as many years under his belt as the previous two stars, but Owen Hunt joined the hospital staff way back in Season 5. In addition to playing the U.S. Army veteran, McKidd has directed a whopping 38 episodes, and he told The Wrap in March that he has no intentions of leaving: 

Owen’s situation seemed dicey for a while, almost dying when his vehicle went off a cliff and then being forced to run from the law, but the second half of Season 19 has seen him back where he belongs — Grey Sloan's chief of trauma. 

Camilla Luddington (Jo Wilson) 

Camilla Luddington joined Grey’s Anatomy in Season 9, so she’s aware just how quickly things could change in regards to her role as Jo Wilson. Earlier in Season 19, however, she let everyone know that she’s all-in with the direction the show has taken this season, telling ET:  

Jo has had a fun will-they-won’t-they situation going on with her bestie Link (Chris Carmack, more on him later), so it’s not surprising that Camilla Luddington is excited to stick around and see what’s next for her character. 

Kim Raver (Teddy Altman) 

This season Kim Raver has expanded her role on Grey’s Anatomy, not just with her character being promoted to chief of surgery, but also joining Kevin McKidd and Chandra Wilson as actors who also direct. The opportunity to grow as an artist is keeping her inspired, as she told TV Insider: 

Kim Raver has been a part of the series since Season 6, but did not appear in Seasons 9-13. Adding new skills to her repertoire seems like a good way to keep things fresh, so hopefully we'll see her step behind the camera again. 

Chris Carmack (Atticus Lincoln) 

Chris Carmack has been playing “Ortho God” Link since Season 15, and as previously noted, fans have become invested in the potential romance between his character and Jo. When asked in April if he was with Grey’s Anatomy for the long haul, he told ET: 

Yes, an astute observation from Chris Carmack. The hospital will, indeed, always need an orthopedic surgeon. However, his response falls a little short of a solid confirmation regarding his future years in that position. Please, Grey’s writers, just promise me one thing: if Link isn’t meant to stick around forever, don’t let him leave Jo in the same cruel way Alex Karev did!

It’s good to hear how many of the longtime cast members remain committed to Grey’s Anatomy, but there are also plenty of actors who have remained mum on the subject. Anthony Hill’s fate as Winston Ndugu is still unknown, and that will likely be addressed in next week’s two-hour event. Debbie Allen, like Ellen Pompeo, is an executive producer on the series, but her character Catherine Fox received some worrisome news earlier this season regarding her cancer, so we also don’t know how much longer she’ll be around.

In the meantime, we’ll continue to enjoy our favorite Seattle medical care professionals for as long as we have them. Grey’s Anatomy airs at 9 p.m. ET on Thursdays on ABC. Spoiler alert: This story talks about Grey’s Anatomy’s October 27 episode “Haunted,” so proceed with caution if you’re not caught up.

Grey’s Anatomy celebrated Halloween in its latest episode, “Haunted,” and what was scarier than the interns doing their trauma training on real dead bodies? The fact that Teddy Altman and Owen Hunt were running around dishing relationship advice out to other doctors. Despite the fact that they seem to have rekindled their physical relationship, Teddy and Owen are in a bad place, and she may have inadvertently killed a couple that many fans have been wanting to see together, when she threw proverbial cold water on Link when he opened up about being “crazy about Jo.”

After lots of awkwardness and sitcom-esque misunderstandings between Jo and Link in Season 18, the first handful of episodes this season have seen the BFFs thriving as they live and co-parent together. The spark definitely seems to still be there between them, and it looked like Link (Chris Carmack) was ready to try to advance things again, before Teddy got to him with a whole speech about ruining each other's lives. Upon Link’s admission that he was afraid he’d blown his chances with Jo (Camilla Luddington), Teddy told him:

Wow, isn't love beautiful? While it’s true that Owen (Kevin McKidd) has often been one of Grey’s Anatomy’s worst love interests, Teddy (Kim Raver) is not allowing for the possibility that Link would not make the same mistakes that Owen did — which included breaking the law, forcing his family to go on the lam and then spending all their money on a lawyer to keep him out of jail. This speech somehow negated (in Link’s eyes, at least) all of the sweet moments he’d shared with Jo recently.

With Halloween being Link’s cancer-versary, he asked Jo to celebrate with him with dinner and a foot rub, but she couldn’t because of work. As always seems to happen, Link ended up working as well, when he was standing by Jo when a teenager jumped off of an ambulance, thinking he could fly. Link was super concerned about Jo’s injured wrist, and she thanked him for worrying about her. She then gave him a bag of “the good” Halloween candy, remarking that she’d already thrown out all of the stuff with raisins. I mean, if that’s not love …

However, due to Teddy’s big speech, Link let a perfectly good moment pass, and they agreed to meet back at home. I’m not giving up on JoLink, but it looks like Grey’s Anatomy is going to toy with us a bit longer before giving this couple an honest chance. I guess we’ll see if and how their relationship continues to unfold, when Grey’s Anatomy returns at 9 p.m. ET next Thursday, November 3, on ABC. When it was revealed that conversations were being had about whether or not Grey’s Anatomy could outlive Meredith Grey, former star Jesse Williams seemed to think that scenario was “unlikely.” However, now that Ellen Pompeo has officially announced she’ll only appear in a limited role in the upcoming 19th season, the Tony Award nominee had only complimentary things to say about the hard work Pompeo has put in. As well, he shared his excitement-worthy thoughts on whether fans will see more appearances from beloved couple Jackson Avery and April Kepner (Sarah Drew) on the ABC medical drama.

It may have been hard for Jesse Williams to comprehend what Grey’s Anatomy would look like without “the heart of the show” Ellen Pompeo, but he was quick to celebrate  all the hard work she’s put in as the leading actress since 2005 and producer since Season 14. He told Extra:

No argument there! Ellen Pompeo has certainly paid her dues for 18 seasons and deserves to make whatever moves best serve her future. Though I doubt she would use the words "time off" to describe starring in and executive producing the untitled Hulu drama that she'll be working on during her Grey's absence. 

As for whether or not Ellen Pompeo's decreased presence creates more space for Jesse Williams and Sarah Drew to return again — as they did to confirm a Japril romance in the Season 18 finale — Jesse Williams claimed to have had “no idea,” but he said: 

Jesse Williams and Sarah Drew have always kept the door open to return to their Grey’s Anatomy characters in some capacity. A Jackson Avery/April Kepner spinoff has been in demand for years, and Drew actually had some fun ideas for how a Japril spinoff would work. Even though the actor couldn’t speak for what (if anything) is in store for Season 19, we can be satisfied that the opportunity remains.

It was previously announced that Ellen Pompeo would appear in only eight episodes of Grey’s Anatomy this season, as she has signed on to star in and executive produce an upcoming limited series for Hulu inspired by a bizarre 2019 news story. The case that inspired the story involved Kristine Barnett, whom Ellen Pompeo will protray, and her ex-husband Michael Barnett being charged with neglectful parenting after allegedly abandoning their adopted daughter Natalia in an apartment and then moving to Canada. In a twist that sounds like it came straight from the cult horror Orphan, the Barnetts claimed Natalia was actually a mentally disturbed adult with a rare form of dwarfism who was conning them. I’m certainly intrigued.

Jesse Williams wasn’t the only Grey’s Anatomy co-star to voice support for Ellen Pompeo amid her exciting new venture. Kevin McKidd said the fact that she’s still making time for Grey’s Anatomy, rather than just focusing on her new gig, proves how much the show still means to her. McKidd told E!’s Daily Pop: 

It will be fun to see how it all goes down in Season 19, and which familiar faces might return to grace our screens. Changes are coming to Grey’s Anatomy! Viewers already could have guessed the medical drama was shaking things up with the way Grey's18th season came to an end, the addition of five new series regulars and the shocking news that Ellen Pompeo will only appear in eight episodes this season. But Kevin McKidd’s take on Season 19 makes it sound like there might be more upheaval ahead than we realized, as the actor stopped just short of calling the upcoming season a reboot of the series.

Kevin McKidd's Owen Hunt was seen in Season 18’s finale boarding a plane with his family in hopes of evading the authorities. The actor spoke about what fans can expect when the ABC moneymaker returns in October, with five “gorgeous” actors joining Season 19's main cast as first-year residents at Grey Sloan Memorial. McKidd told People that this new group will be part of a “sort of reignition of the show.” He said:

(A moment of silence, please, for the mention of the OG actors who played Cristina Yang and George O’Malley. OK, moving on ...) 

This is far from the first season that will see rookies enter the mix at the teaching hospital. Many fan favorites have started as part of a “new class” and worked their way up the ranks, including Jackson Avery (Jesse Williams), April Kepner (Sarah Drew) and Levi Schmitt (Jake Borelli). However, this is the first time we’ve seen Grey’s Anatomy introduce new smiling and optimistic interns who have the potential to become the main characters after the mass exodus that occurred in the season finale.

After already losing series regular Cormac Hayes (Richard Flood) earlier in Season 18, the finale saw Richard Webber (James Pickens Jr.) and Catherine Fox (Debbie Allen) going on sabbatical, Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson) prioritizing her health by retiring and Teddy Altman (Kim Raver) and Owen on the lam. And the of course, there was the twist that spelled the loss of all of the residents due to the teaching program being shut down. 

With many of the Grey's actors under contract through Season 19, it still seems safe to assume that a lot of these characters will be written back into the show when the new season kicks off. Butut after Kevin McKidd’s comments, should we possibly expect to mainly follow the stories featuring Alexis Floyd, Niko Terho, Harry Shum Jr., Adelaide Kane and Midori Francis? Is this group of five really our new Meredith, Cristina, Izzie, George and Alex?

We’ve got another month or so before we know the answer, but this new information has me more intrigued and excited than before. Grey’s Anatomy Season 19 will premiere at 9 p.m. ET Thursday, October 6, on ABC, following the Season 6 premiere of its Seattle spinoff Station 19, which will see its own increase in series regulars. Grey’s Anatomy showrunner Krista Vernoff and company didn’t pull any punches when it came to wrapping up the medical drama’s 18th season on ABC. Grey Sloan was hemorrhaging doctors, including Teddy Altman (Kim Raver) and Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd), who were forced to go on the lam after it came to light that the latter had stolen medication to help some terminally ill veterans die. Was that the last we’ll see of Owen and Teddy? The actress has weighed in on what she thinks her character’s future holds when the show returns this fall for Season 19.

Understandably, Kim Raver was noncommittal on revealing exactly what we can expect for her character after that big cliffhanger, but she told People she doesn’t think their story is over:

While nothing has been promised, that would be a pretty unsatisfying end to Teddy and Owen’s story. Do they spend the rest of their days eluding the authorities with their two kids in tow? Will they never be able to legally practice medicine again? That’s unlikely, but seemingly just as unlikely would be Owen avoiding jail time in the event where he does come clean. As Bailey pointed out in the finale, it was most definitely a legal issue, not a moral one.

Kevin McKidd previously said his character and Teddy were in for “big, big problems” after she found out what he had done, and I’d say that has panned out. Owen at first hid from his wife the fact that he’d assisted the former soldiers in their suicides so as not to make her an accessory to the crime, but the truth came to light when Owen thought he was going to die and confessed what he’d done to Cormac Hayes (which in turn resulted in Cormac fleeing the country to escape the situation).

Grey Sloan was in a bad way when the ABC hit left us for the summer. On top of Teddy and Owen boarding a plane to who-knows-where in hopes of avoiding arrest, the hospital’s residents were orphaned; Bailey resigned, leaving Meredith in charge of a hospital she was trying to escape; and Richard took a sabbatical with Catherine to celebrate her cancer going back into remission. Will Season 19 really see that many characters leave Grey’s Anatomy? It's highly doubtful, but is anything so fully concrete at this point?

Regardless of what the fall brings for Teddy and Owen, Kim Raver sounds excited about what fans are in for when Grey’s Anatomy returns October 6:

Even though Kevin McKidd has another project in the works, it’s unlikely we’ve seen the last of him and Kim Raver on Grey’s Anatomy. Ahead of Season 17, the two actors (and Camilla Luddington) agreed to three-year contract extensions, which presumably means they’re signed on through the upcoming season, even if their stories may suddenly end at any point for one reason or another.

While we wait on official news about Season 19 casting and what the future holds for the show beyond next year, Seasons 1-17 of Grey’s Anatomy can be streamed with a Netflix subscription (with Season 18 joining the lineup on June 25). Spoilers below for Grey's Anatomy's Season 18 finale, so be warned!

Grey’s Anatomy wrapped its 18th season with an eventful finale that put the fate of multiple characters in question. Owen Hunt, for one, was forced to go on the lam after being caught in some illegal activity, and at the end of the two-hour affair, it was unknown where he and wife Teddy Altman were headed with their children. The actor who plays Owen, Kevin McKidd, just landed a new TV role in the upcoming book-to-screen adaptation of Six Four, but does that mean we’ve seen the last of him on Grey’s Anatomy?

Kevin McKidd has been cast to lead the crime thriller inspired by the bestselling Hideo Yokoyama novel, Variety reports. McKidd will star as police detective Chris O’Neill alongside Vinette Robinson as his wife Michelle, whose teenage daughter goes missing. The series was commissioned by the UK-based ITV and is set in the actor's stomping grounds of Scotland, specifically in Glasgow. Luckily enough for fans of Owen Hunt, it’s unlikely that this new project will affect McKidd’s commitment to Grey’s Anatomy, as filming of the four-part series has already begun. Had it been a longer project, a bit more worry might have been warranted, but Six Four's production will likely be concluded by the time Grey's starts back up for Season 19.

McKidd seemed excited to embrace a different character for a while, after playing Owen Hunt on the ABC hit since 2008:

Six Four will be directed by Ben A. Williams (Baghdad Central) and produced by Clare Kerr (The Nest). BAFTA Scotland-winning screenwriter Gregory Burke will executive produce and Juliette Howell, Tessa Ross and Molly Bolt are executive producers for House Productions. BBC Studios will distribute the series internationally, with a UK premiere expected in 2023.

To be sure, Kevin McKidd has taken on other roles over the years while still starring on Grey’s Anatomy. That said, a lot of his extracurricular work in that respect has been via voice work, as he’s leant his vocal talents to animated projects including Star Wars: Rebels, Brave and the video games Call of Duty: Warfare 2 and 3. 

Kevin McKidd joined Grey’s Anatomy in Season 5 as military veteran and trauma surgeon Owen Hunt. His character has struggled with PTSD over the years and always shows empathy to his fellow veterans who come to the hospital seeking care. His sympathies got him into trouble in Season 18, when it was revealed in the midseason finale — as Owen Hunt thought he was going to die after a vehicle accident — that he had stolen drugs from Grey Sloan Memorial to help a terminally ill veteran die with dignity and had promised others he would help them too.

When Teddy (Kim Raver) refused to allow Owen to break the law again for another suffering veteran, that former soldier’s husband reported Owen's actions to the hospital. Bailey, the hospital's chief, said she had to call the police, but she allowed Owen and Teddy to resign from the hospital and gave them a few hours to get their affairs in order and flee. Considering he can't seem to stay away from hectic situations these days, Owen's future perhaps isn't so set in stone, even if it doesn't look like this new TV role will disrupt things too much.

It’s unknown where Owen and Teddy were headed when the 400th episode of Grey’s Anatomy ended, but it’s unlikely that’s the last we’ll see of Kevin McKidd and Kim Raver on the show. Ahead of Season 17 both actors reportedly signed three-year contracts with ABC that would keep them on the medical drama through Season 19. Spoiler alert! We're about to get into details about the Grey's Anatomy Season 18 finale. 

Grey’s Anatomy delivered a packed Season 18 ending that saw multiple changes in relationship status, the return of Jackson Avery and April Kepner (much to fans’ delight), Owen’s decisions coming back to haunt him, and does anybody even still work at Grey Sloan anymore? Some questions got answered — like, what’s going to happen to the residency program? — but a lot more questions were introduced, and the stage was set for a really interesting Season 19 when the medical drama returns to ABC this fall. Let’s unpack the makeups, breakups and why the hospital lost so many doctors in the season finale.

Owen And Teddy Forced To Flee After ‘Death With Dignity’ Scandal Exposed

Owen and Teddy had their worst fears realized in the Grey’s Anatomy season finale, when the husband of a veteran showed up asking for Owen to help his wife die with dignity. Teddy put her foot down and said they weren’t breaking any more laws, prompting the husband to inform Bailey that Owen had stolen drugs from the hospital to help other terminally ill veterans end their lives.

Bailey was understandably livid, and while Owen stood by his decision, the chief told him she had to report them to the police — it was a legal issue, not a moral one. However, she accepted their resignations and said she’d give them a few hours before she contacted the authorities. The couple collected their kids from a very worried Amelia and boarded a plane to an unknown destination. 

Is that the last we’ll see of Kevin McKidd and Kim Raver? It’s unlikely, as ahead of Season 17, the actors (along with Camilla Luddington) reportedly signed three-year contracts that should keep them on the show through Season 19, but we’ll just have to wait and see. 

Catherine’s Cancer Treatment Was Successful, So She And Richard Went On Sabbatical

Catherine Fox had reason to celebrate, and it wasn’t just the fact that she got to see her granddaughter Harriet. Amelia delivered the good news that the treatment was working, and she was again merely living with cancer, not dying from it. She and Richard decided to celebrate the news by taking a sabbatical to see the Great Pyramids — interesting timing, as the hospital faced its biggest challenge yet with the shutdown of its residency program.

Bailey Quit With No Notice After The Residency Program Was Shut Down

Jamarah Blake told Bailey the working relationship between her, Richard and Meredith had become dysfunctional, after Meredith went against Richard’s orders to not perform a risky operation and Richard, in turn, refused to respect Bailey’s authority as chief. Blake tasked the chief with starting from scratch to rebuild the residency program, revoking the hospital's accreditation in the meantime. Yes, that means Levi Schmitt, Taryn Helm, Mabel Tsang, Zander Perez and the rest of the residents no longer work at Grey Sloan.

Bailey — who nearly suffered another heart attack from the events of this season and whose priorities shifted with her and Ben’s adoption of Pru Miller (RIP Dean) — said enough is enough and decided to put her own well-being first. She quit the hospital with no notice, handing Meredith the keys to her office on the way out and telling her, “You broke it, you bought it.” But wait, wasn’t Meredith moving to Minnesota?

Meredith Ascends To Chief Of Surgery: Her Birthright, Or Is She Stuck In Seattle?

With Richard and Bailey gone — and pressure from Jackson not to go to Minnesota — Meredith was left as Chief of Surgery. It practically seems like her birthright, with her family’s history there, but she really wanted to leave. Her visions of her mother’s abusive words and trying to save Derek the day he got shot indicated that her trauma will always keep her bound to Grey Sloan Memorial. 

As she sat in Bailey’s office — correction, her office — telling Nick to leave because his life was in Minnesota and her life was in Seattle, Meredith seemed to give in to the futility of it all. But in the final moments of the episode, she might have changed her mind, trying to yell for Nick to come back. Did the risk of losing him force her to push past her demons?

Relationship Roundup: Finale Makeups And Breakups

• Meredith and Nick’s status is unclear, after she tried to send him back to Minnesota following a fight over her rogue surgery. Nick suggested she may have made the wrong decisions based on her complicated feelings about leaving Seattle, and Meredith did not take kindly to that. 
• Things were looking so good for Jo and Todd, but everything changed after they slept together and he told her he loved her. Apparently she found it hard to overlook his singing after sex (it’s Skylar Astin, what do you expect?), which can’t be worse than him bringing a giant teddy bear (“It’s a sex bear.”) to her at the hospital the next day. So that’s over, but at least things are getting back to normal with Link. Will they go back to BFFs, or is there something more there?
• Amelia was reeling the whole episode over her breakup with Kai, and it turns out Kai was reeling as well. They showed up at the hospital, telling Amelia they couldn’t sleep, and the two shared a kiss. I’m interested to see where Season 19 takes this couple, because they are my favorite, but I don’t want Kai to sacrifice the life they’ve chosen.
• Last but not least, Jesse Williams and Sarah Drew did return for the Season 18 finale, and fans had to wait until the very end to see Jackson and April walk away hand-in-hand, kissing once they got in the elevator. Breathe easy, Japril fans, they are back on in Boston!

That was a whole lot of change to absorb. In the span of two hours, Grey Sloan went from being understaffed to straight-up hemorrhaging doctors, losing Owen, Teddy, Richard and Bailey, as well as all the residents. Will Meredith be forced to stay, sacrificing love? Could she even bring herself to leave if that were an option? 

We don’t know how many more seasons of Grey’s Anatomy we’ll get — or if the show will eventually continue without Meredith — but we do know that the drama will continue this fall for Season 19 on ABC! Check out our 2022 TV Schedule to see what premieres are coming up in the meantime.

We still have one episode left before Grey’s Anatomy’s two-hour Season 18 finale, but the questions have already begun regarding the future of the ABC hit. Series star Ellen Pompeo, who is also an executive producer, has spoken openly about trying to bring the series to an end, and renewing her contract with the show one season at a time only ensures that there are going to be a lot of questions and speculation about whether or not Season 19 will be Grey’s Anatomy’s last. As the actors prepare for the end of the current season, a few of them have already addressed the series’ longevity.

When ABC announced that Grey's Anatomy is continuing for another season, no specification was made about whether or not it would be the last. However, Craig Erwich, president of ABC Entertainment and Hulu Originals, basically said that the network will take as much as they can get. Chandra Wilson went full Miranda Bailey on Good Morning America when Michael Strahan said that he’s heard Season 19 is rumored to be the end. 

That sounds like a pretty big indicator that Chandra Wilson wants to keep going! She and James Pickens Jr. — the other two actors who have been on the series for all 18 seasons so far with Ellen Pompeo — had previously extended their contracts to include a 19th season, but any negotiations past next year are unknown. 

Kevin McKidd, who also previously signed a multi-season contract to keep playing Owen Hunt, told People that as a medical show, they don't have the problem that other series can run into with their story becoming convoluted, because there are endless stories to tell with the people who come into the hospital for help. However, he didn’t necessarily expect Grey’s Anatomy to last as long as it has:

We definitely do! The series is set to air its 400th episode, which just happens to coincide with the season finale, and People reported that executive producer Debbie Allen also addressed the show’s longevity as the cast celebrated the milestone. She seemed to think the series still has some legs on it: 

Grey’s Anatomy has made a lot of people happy for a long time, and I’m sure fans would love to see their favorite Seattle (and possibly Minnesota?) surgeons stick around. We’ll probably have to wait quite a while to find out what’s happening, but in the meantime, we have the rest of Season 18 to focus on!

Owen Hunt may have survived the accident that sent his vehicle sliding down a cliff, but Grey’s Anatomy’s Season 18 winter premiere “No Time to Die” showed that it’s going to be far from an easy road for the trauma surgeon. Owen’s confession to Cormac Hayes that he helped his terminally ill veteran patient Noah die ultimately forced Cormac to leave Grey-Sloan Memorial, and Owen’s wife Teddy Altman knew something was up. Kevin McKidd, who plays Owen, said the newlywed couple is in for some “big, big problems.” 

In the Season 18 winter finale, “It Came Upon a Midnight Clear,” back in December, Owen thought he was going to die, prompting him to tell Cormac about Noah and ask Cormac to fulfill the promise he’d made to help three other veterans end their lives. Teddy knew something extreme must have happened to make Cormac quit, and when she learns what Owen has done (which she will), her family and career will be on the line as well. Kevin McKidd spoke to People about what Owen’s big secret means for him and Teddy for the rest of this season.

Cormac’s knowledge of what Owen was doing made him an accessory to the crime — a fact that scared the single dad so badly that he said he was leaving the country to not be at risk of jail time. Owen’s actions — whether morally right or wrong — didn’t go through the proper channels, and therefore put Teddy at risk as well. 

Owen and Teddy have two kids (Leo and Allison), so that theoretically puts them in the same situation as Cormac in running the risk that their kids would be left parentless if both surgeons go to prison. Kevin McKidd said we’ll see Teddy get justifiably upset that Owen made such a big decision on his own.

Owen and Teddy may be headed for some rough waters, but the Grey’s Anatomy winter premiere promised that lots of romance is in store for the rest of Season 18 from the hospital’s other couples. Amelia and Kai continued to grow closer (which I was definitely hoping to see), while Link took things to a new level with formerly platonic BFF Jo. Nick Marsh, for his part, made an appearance in Seattle, showing up for some more sexy time with Meredith. Thursdays are once again complete, now that Grey’s is back!

Spoiler alert! This story contains spoilers for the Grey’s Anatomy Season 18 fall finale “It Came Upon a Midnight Clear.” Consider yourself warned.

Wow, Grey’s Anatomy really hit fans where it hurt with its winter finale, “It Came Upon a Midnight Clear.” On top of not knowing if Owen Hunt is dead or alive, viewers were left with two additional cliffhangers regarding other surgeries the ABC drama has been building to so far in Season 18. At least they gave us a clue about how they’re going to resolve those emergencies when Grey’s Anatomy returns in February. ABC announced the spring premiere will be part of the next crossover event, in which the firefighters of Station 19 are sent to recover Owen, whose vehicle slid down a huge cliff during the midseason capper.

As Owen, Teddy and Hayes were traveling back from picking up the donor heart for Owen’s nephew Farouk, their driver lost consciousness and flipped their vehicle on its side at the top of a cliff. (Where better to have a cliffhanger?) Teddy was able to get out with the heart, and she ran off to hitchhike back to the hospital. At the very end Hayes also escaped, but the shift in weight caused the vehicle to slide down the cliff, leaving Owen's fate unknown until the two shows' returns. Let’s look at the huge plot lines we won't be able to stop thinking about until February.

Will Owen Hunt Survive?

For a good minute, I thought Grey’s Anatomy had just killed off Owen Hunt. But if the firefighters of Station 19 are on the case in the upcoming spring premiere, that’s a good sign — at least for now. Owen also admitted to Hayes that he had agreed to help some of his terminally ill military patients die, and asked Hayes to finish that job for him if he didn’t make it. Yeah, that’s going to come up again. But those patients' fates are less important than Owen's, and heaven help the Grey's creative team if they make fans wait two full months just to kill the longtime character off on a different show.

Will Teddy Make It Back To Farouk In Time?

At the end of the midseason finale, it appeared that Teddy (with the donor heart hopefully still safe in the cooler) was able to flag down a car, presumably to rush her back to Grey-Sloan Memorial, where Farouk lay on the operating table with surgeons at the ready. We will have to wait to see if Teddy makes it back in time, as well as if the heart suffered any damage in the wreck. But what happens to Megan if something goes wrong? Teddy and Owen were not willing to hear Hayes’ concerns about Megan’s depression, and losing her son would be catastrophic. This would not be the best time for Grey's to introduce a hitchhiker-targeting killer is all I'm saying. 

What Will Happen To Dr. Hamilton And The Parkinson’s Trial?

As if Farouk’s surgery wasn’t enough of a cliffhanger, the procedure we’ve been waiting on all season appeared to be in danger of not happening at all. David Hamilton tried to hide an illness ahead of their groundbreaking surgery, resulting in, at best, a delay in the trial or, at worst, the death of the man behind the whole operation. There’s no way we’ve come this far to have the super-secret Parkinson’s trial get called off altogether, but what happens if Hamilton is no longer fit to be their Patient Zero? All we know for the next two months is that Meredith was cutting Hamilton’s chest open at the end of the winter finale in an attempt to save him.

Thursday, February 24, is the date set for Grey’s Anatomy’s big return. Of course the action will start at 8 p.m. ET with Station 19 before Grey’s takes over at 9 p.m. ET on ABC. Season 17 of Grey’s Anatomy was a tough one to watch, as the storylines mirrored the events of the real world, with the fictional Seattle surgeons fighting COVID and joining the protests after George Floyd’s murder. While the season finale did see Kelly McCreary's Maggie and Anthony Hill's Winston enjoying their pandemic-delayed wedding, as well as Owen’s proposal to longtime on-off girlfriend Teddy, we probably also saw the end of Amelia and Link. But when Season 18 starts off, it looks like Grey’s Anatomy will try to change things up for its remaining couples, namely by allowing them some much-deserved happiness. Yes, happiness.

Many of Maggie and Winston’s dating days were experienced digitally, as COVID forced the two to be quarantined in their respective cities. But Winston got fed up with that arrangement and finally moved to Seattle, where the couple wed on the beach after Meredith recovered from her own season-long health scare. Grey’s Anatomy executive producer Meg Marinis recently spoke to TV Line about what’s in store for the newlyweds in Season 18, and didn't have any new disasters to report. In her words:

Excuse me if I’m jumping for joy. Maggie and Winston are such a cute and strong couple, and I can’t wait to see how they navigate the waters of early marriage. Teddy and Owen, meanwhile, have weathered a lot more in their relationship, which dates back to their days in the military. Last season Teddy went down a dark road with PTSD — a condition that Owen has also struggled with — after the death of Andrew DeLuca, not to mention her revelation to Owen that she’d been romantically involved with her friend Allison (the namesake of her and Owen’s child). But Meg Marinis said this couple will also be stronger for their struggles.

It’ll be a lot easier for Teddy and Owen to move forward without having to worry about Tom Koracick, the third member of their crazy love triangle, after actor Greg Germann left the show last season. But while one might have expected Grey's Anatomy's creative team to find another obstacle for them to maneuver around, it sounds like that might not be the case. At least for the first five minutes or so of the season.

After the tragedies that Season 17 encapsulated, it’ll be so refreshing to see our surgeon heroes find joy in Season 18 — as we’ll also see Jo Wilson taking on motherhood and a new specialty in her own search for happiness. Now that Meredith is out of her beach hallucination, will she bliss out with McWidow Cormac Hayes?

Grey’s Anatomy Season 18 premieres on ABC at 9 p.m. ET on Thursday, September 30, following its firefighting brothers and sisters on Station 19 (who could also use some joy in their fifth season). Long-time Grey's Anatomy fans got a pleasant surprise at the very end of the Season 17 premiere a couple of weeks ago, when Meredith had a vision of her late husband, Derek, after passing out in the hospital parking lot. It turns out that Mer is in some trouble, which means that she'll be seeing these visions of Derek for a while, here and there, as the season progresses. This also means that Patrick Dempsey will pop up as Meredith's story continues to unfold, and one Grey's Anatomy star thinks he knows why Dempsey's return is "perfect" for the show.

Kevin McKidd, who's played Dr. Owen Hunt on Grey's Anatomy since Season 5 in 2008, spoke with People about Patrick Dempsey's return recently, and said that he knows why now is the right time for Derek's reappearance:

As fans will no doubt remember, Dempsey left his time on Grey's behind in Season 11, when his beloved character was killed off after getting hit by a truck. While a dream scenario was the only likelihood of him returning, even that didn't seem to be possible, considering the rumored tension which had built between himself and show creator Shonda Rhimes. But, Rhimes left her day-to-day duties on the medical drama behind some time ago, and with Meredith past the most difficult days of her grief, now was a fitting time for fans to see Derek again.

As Kevin McKidd said, it makes total sense that Meredith would imagine seeing the love of her life right now. Not only has she (along with all of the other medical professionals at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital) been dealing with the effects of the pandemic on a slew of patients, and sometimes without enough resources to help them all, our tough, do-it-all heroine also has now been diagnosed with the potentially deadly virus herself. This, of course, is why she passed out at work.

As viewers noticed in last week's episode, with Meredith going in and out of consciousness after finally being admitted to the hospital, whenever things get really bad for her, she mentally heads back to that beach where she can see and talk to Derek once more. This has led many fans to (rather morbidly) hope that Mer has an extended period of unconsciousness, you know, like a coma or something, so that we can all get more Derek time on screen. I mean, Grey's started us down this path, so I don't think that's weird or selfish (she's got little kids!) at all, do you?

Grey's Anatomy recently bumped two characters up to series regular status (while losing one to Station 19), but the futures of no fewer than three were still in question, as actors' contracts expired with the premature end of Season 16. Well, Season 17 may not hit the airwaves any time too soon, but three stars will officially be back when the show does return, and they won't go anywhere for quite a while. Kim Raver, Kevin McKidd, and Camilla Luddington will all return.

Kim Raver, Kevin McKidd, and Camilla Luddington play Dr. Teddy Altman, Dr. Owen Hunt, and Dr. Jo Wilson, respectively, so Meredith Grey won't be losing several of her fellow surgeons when the action picks up at Grey Sloan in Season 17. Deadline reports that the new contracts are for another three years, with considerable salary bumps for the actors.

Although Grey's Anatomy is currently halfway through its two-season renewal from back in May 2019, new three-year contracts for three of the most prominent stars indicate that ABC is planning on Grey's lasting far beyond Season 17. Considering what these characters went through in Season 16, the likelihood of all three of them not leaving the show anytime soon is somewhat surprising.

Kim Raver's Teddy ended Season 16 on a controversial note, as she slept with Tom just hours before she was supposed to marry Owen. While she did tell Tom that they couldn't be together because of Owen, she still had sex with another man on what was supposed to be her wedding day, and the hookup was recorded onto Owen's phone via voicemail.

Frankly, Grey's Anatomy went so far in tearing down Teddy's character in what turned out to be the final episode of Season 16 that I wouldn't have been shocked if she departed within the span of a few episodes. Now, Teddy apparently has the span of a few seasons to show what happens next!

As for Kevin McKidd's Owen, he called off the wedding in the Season 16 finale, although he technically only delayed it due to a surgery. He did it via his mother rather than calling Teddy directly, and he was clearly devastated by what she'd done. I can't imagine it helped that she fully intended on marrying him just hours after hooking up with Tom in the hospital where they all worked. However the situation is resolved, it apparently won't involve Owen leaving Grey's Anatomy.

As for Camilla Luddington's Jo, fans had big reasons to worry about her future on the show over the midseason hiatus after news broke that Justin Chambers had already filmed his final episode as Alex Karev.

Since Alex and Jo had been on very solid ground in their relationship before Alex headed off to Iowa to care for his mom (or so fans thought at the time), it seemed like Grey's Anatomy either had to send Jo off-screen to be with Alex, kill off Alex, or invent some far-fetched reason why Alex would leave Jo. (Grey's went for the far-fetched option that may have destroyed Alex's character.)

Fortunately, Grey's Anatomy didn't have to lose Camilla Luddington or Jo just because Justin Chambers decided to leave, and she was already moving forward by the end of Season 16. Her reaction may have seemed a bit strange, but showrunner Krista Vernoff explained why she was handling the situation the way she did.

So, even if there are still no details about when Grey's Anatomy will be able to start production on Season 17, fans can count on seeing these three again. Interestingly, ABC did give Grey's Anatomy (along with Station 19) a slot in the fall TV schedule, so the plan is presumably to get Season 17 ready to begin broadcast before the end of the year.

Grey's Anatomy just had its uber-dramatic Season 15 finale, and fans are ready for more. Before the May 16 finale aired, ABC already renewed the show for at least two more seasons. Jake Borelli, who plays Dr. Levi "Glasses" Schmitt, was revealed to be one of three recurring stars bumped up to series regular status for Season 16. Unlike many characters, Levi had a happy ending to Season 15, reconnecting with his boyfriend Nico Kim (Alex Landi) and even coming out to his mom.

CinemaBlend asked Jake Borelli to name his favorite co-star to work with so far -- after starting on the show in Season 14 and amping up his role in Season 15 -- and which co-stars he wants more scenes with in Season 16. His answer would please Omelia fans:

As we all should. Jake Borelli's Dr. Levi Schmitt got to spend a lot of time with Kevin McKidd's Dr. Owen Hunt in the final two episodes of Season 15, including the penultimate "Drawn to the Blood," which was directed by McKidd himself. Borelli already told me about the great times they had filming that scene, which carried over into the "intense" season finale.

Jake Borelli said there had been some talks about Levi becoming a series regular character in Season 16, and he got the official word when Season 16 was picked up. But ABC announcing two seasons at once? He didn't see that coming.

As for what happens next for Levi, Jake Borelli doesn't really know yet. Showrunner Krista Vernoff said in post-finale interviews that Nico actor Alex Landi would be a recurring actor for them in Season 16, so the actor's new Netflix show shouldn't push him off screen after all. That's good news for Levi, too, since it suggests he and Nico will continue building their relationship.

Jake Borelli said he doesn't know exactly when they'll be back to film Season 16, but he'll be ready when that call comes in.

Maybe Levi will end up specializing in neurosurgery, and then he can get those scenes with Caterina Scorsone as Dr. Amelia Shepherd -- and also his fellow new series regular Greg Germann as one of my favorites, Dr. Tom Koracick. (Tom, you deserve better than how Teddy treated you!)

The Grey's Anatomy Season 15 finale left a lot of threads dangling -- from three main characters fired, to Meredith possibly heading to jail, to Jo going to the psych ward, to Jackson literally going missing. There's a lot to worry and speculate about during the hiatus. If Grey's Anatomy Season 16 sticks to the usual schedule, it should start filming this summer for a September premiere on ABC. Stay tuned for an exact premiere date.

Grey's Anatomy star Jake Borelli (Dr. Levi Schmitt) understands the stress level going into the Season 15 finale, "Jump Into the Fog." When CinemaBlend asked for one word to describe the May 16, 2019 episode, Borelli went with "intense." As he added:

Who pulls through?! Well, he knows by now, since they already filmed the finale, and we know Levi "Glasses" Schmitt will be back for Season 16 since Jake Borelli was upped to series regular status for the 2019-2020 season. According to ABC's synopsis, the Season 15 finale will also show Levi try to talk some sense into his unraveling boyfriend Nico, which suggests Glasses at least survives the big fog pileup on the freeway.

That doesn't mean everyone is going to make it to Grey's Anatomy Season 16 after the big Season 15, Episode 25 finale:

Last week's episode, "Drawn to the Blood," left Levi in a tight spot -- literally -- as one of three people in the back seat of a car trying to make it to Grey Sloan. Dr. Owen Hunt and Levi sat next to Frances Pinfield as they tried to rush her to the hospital to give Gus his much-needed blood donation. But then they got caught up in the pileup.

Teddy Altman -- pregnant with Owen's baby -- just saw her water break, and Amelia is the one trying to drive her to the hospital so she can give birth. Meanwhile, Maggie was stung by something out on an ill-fated camping trip with Jackson. They were also trying to rush back to the hospital, but got caught up in the fog traffic.

At the hospital, there was even more drama, with Andrew DeLuca deciding to take the fall for Meredith Grey's insurance fraud decision. The promo for Episode 25 showed DeLuca in handcuffs. It also showed Miranda Bailey's suspicions that DeLuca didn't do whatever he did alone.

The promo did not hint to the drama to come between Nico and Levi, but we can probably expect that relationship to have a definitive moment one way or the other. For one thing, Nico was previously shown applying for a new job. He has also had an attitude problem ever since his mistake cost a young patient his life. He fought with Levi about that, since Levi didn't think Nico should go straight from that tragic mistake to his new job interview. Nico had a harsh reply about that being what Levi would do since his whole life has been defined by failure.

Add to that, Nico actor Alex Landi just booked a recurring role on a Netflix series. I asked Jake Borelli how much we should read into all of that -- Nico applying for a new job and his actor getting a new job:

Hmmm. Hoping for the best on that, but expecting a sad breakup. However, Jake Borelli emphasized that Levi has a bigger issue first -- getting out of that pileup in the fog with Dr. Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd) and donor Frances. Turns out, filming that fog-fated but song-filled car trip was a lot of fun for the actor:

Spoiler alert: Spoilers ahead on Grey's Anatomy Season 15, Episode 13, "I Walk the Line."

Grey's Anatomy honored the one-year anniversary of the Stoneman Douglas High School shooting in a relatively subtle way. Relatively because it wasn't the main storyline of the February 14 episode, "I Walk the Line," but the plot followed a shooting during a parade.

The Lord of the Rings star Billy Boyd (Pippin) was part of a group of Scottish bagpipers who were playing in a parade when his son was shot. They rushed the boy to Grey Sloan for treatment.

During the episode, Billy Boyd's character, Seamus, mentioned a real-life shooting that happened in Scotland in 1996. During the Dunblane school massacre, 16 children and a teacher were killed before the shooter killed himself. It was the deadliest mass shooting in British history. As Seamus said on the show, after it happened, they issued new gun laws and it has yet to happen again.

Grey's Anatomy is no stranger to sending messages through storylines -- political, cultural, social, sometimes personal -- and this was its way of addressing mass shootings on the Parkland anniversary, without having a mass school shooting storyline. Plus, in this fictional case, the boy who was shot got to live. So it was hopeful more than tragic, and just one moving storyline of many.

The episode was directed by Kevin McKidd, who also plays Owen Hunt, and both he and Billy Boyd are Scottish. So it was a way to share their real-life history -- which maybe not all Grey's Anatomy fans knew about -- and tie it into the U.S. shooting that took place on February 14, 2018.

Billy Boyd may still be best known to many fans for his role as Pippin in Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings trilogy, but Outlander fans recently saw him on screen as Neil Forbes, and he's been picking up other episode guest roles in the past few years.

Last night's episode of Grey's Anatomy was a big one on the famous guest star front. Jennifer Grey made her debut as Carol Dickinson, Betty/Brittany's mother. We know she will be back on Grey's as Betty's parents fight Owen for custody of Betty's son Leo. That is going to get ugly.

Margaret Avery, aka Shug Avery in The Color Purple, also had a guest role as patient Lucille. Her storyline with two men -- one her husband, one her best friend -- inspired Teddy Altman (Kim Raver) to tell Tom Koracick (Greg Germann) that Owen would always just be her best friend. Teddy and Koracick are now officially a thing.

Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) and Andrew DeLuca (Giacomo Gianniotti) are close to being a thing as well, whether just for now or forever. Joe Karev (Camilla Luddington) isn't happy with Mer blowing off her old friend Link (Chris Carmack), who is apparently the odd man out at this point. No love interest for him.

Grey's Anatomy Season 15 continues Thursday, February 21 with Episode 14, "I Want a New Drug," airing at 8 p.m. ET on ABC. Don't forget that Derek and Amelia's long lost sister is showing up soon. Here's what else is playing on TV during the 2019 midseason.

It has been four years since Kevin McKidd and Sandra Oh shared the screen on Grey's Anatomy as Owen Hunt and Cristina Yang. Thankfully, the Golden Globes gave the former co-stars the chance to reunite. McKidd opened up about his reunion with Oh, saying:

How lovely is that? Kevin McKidd talked about his heartfelt reunion with Sandra Oh with TVLine. The former Grey's Anatomy co-stars' reunion sounds pretty epic, and it could not have happened under better circumstances. Oh won the Golden Globe award for Best Actress in a Television Series for her highly acclaimed performance in Killing Eve.

She previously earned a Golden Globe for her work on Grey's Anatomy in 2016. Sandra Oh's Killing Eve win was her first in the lead category, having previously won in supporting. Suffice it to say, there was a lot for Oh and Kevin McKidd to celebrate and hug over.

Given that Sandra Oh also co-hosted the Golden Globes, it is impressive that she and Kevin McKidd found time to reunite. Where there is a will, there is a way! There were a lot of reasons for the co-stars to will their reunion into existence. McKidd talked about his gratitude for their strong relationship, saying:

Based on how Kevin McKidd, emphasized the "hate" each other part, it makes a bond like his and Sandra Oh's all the more special. The two maintained a strong working relationship and those sentiments have not wavered following Oh's Grey's Anatomy exit. That is impressive!

Kevin McKidd and Sandra Oh built their bond while sharing the screen on Grey's Anatomy for many years. McKidd joined the cast in Season 5 and Oh left the show at the end of Season 10. For many of the five seasons they co-starred on the medical drama, Cristina and Owen were in a front-burner romantic relationship. The characters got married before eventually divorcing.

Sharing so much time together on Grey's Anatomy and in so many intense storylines is a make-or-break-it environment for co-stars. Kevin McKidd talked about how some of the difficult times they had individually, off-screen, led them to rely on each other. They are very fortunate to have forged such a robust relationship.

Whether Sandra Oh and Kevin McKidd will ever share the screen on Grey's Anatomy again is unclear. One of the recent times she was asked about a potential return to the show, Oh indicated she would not want to come back. Minds have been known to change though.

Who knows? If and when Grey's Anatomy eventually comes to an end, Sandra Oh and Kevin McKidd may get a chance to co-star again.

Ultimately, Cristina and Owen's romantic relationship did not work out. Thankfully, the beautiful bond between their portrayers has continued.

There are long running TV shows, and then there's Grey's Anatomy. ABC's medical drama is currently in the midst of its whopping 14th season on the network, and it doesn't seem to have any plans to slow down. Season 14 has seen its fair of twists and turns, while also calling back to the characters and events from earlier seasons. And with series regulars Jessica Capshaw and Sarah Drew set to depart their roles as Arizona and April respectively, fans are eager to see how it'll all get wrapped up in the season finale. Grey's Anatomy star/director Kevin McKidd recently teased the Season 14 ending, and it really doesn't seem like we'l be getting any crazy cliffhangers. He said,

Instead of scary blackouts or fires in the hospital, it looks like Grey's Anatomy is going to go brighter with its upcoming Season 14 finale. Considering where the medical drama currently stands in regards to its cast and the network, this makes a great deal of sense.

Kevin McKidd's tease of a celebratory season finale, which comes to us from THR, is no doubt in connection to the upcoming departures of Sarah Drew and Jessica Capshaw. News that the two actresses would be departing after around a decade on the show shocked the fandom, as we've seen each surgeon grow and change greatly in their long tenures on the series.

But it turns out that the main reason they're being taken off the show is a writing block. After being on Grey's for so long, it's hard to find a new place for Arizona and/or April to go in future seasons. Perhaps this finale will be a way for them to both be honored, before the pair of surgeons depart Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital for some unknown reason. At least they can join the ranks of lead characters who left the show without being horribly killed off.

Keeping the Season 14 finale jovial is also a good idea, considering Grey's hasn't officially been renewed by ABC. Smart money says it still ends up happening, as series lead and producer Ellen Pompeo just signed a massive deal for two more years as Meredith. The show is still getting high viewership every week, with spinoff Station 19 helping to expand the world of fictional Seattle into a bonafide TV universe.

There's long running TV shows, and then there's Grey's Anatomy. The ABC medical drama is currently in the midst of its whopping 14th season on the network, with only a handful of original characters still working in the hospital. But many of the OG surgeons did last quite a while, like Sandra Oh's Cristina Yang. Oh departed the series after ten seasons, and fans have been hoping she'd return for a guest appearance in the near future. And while that isn't happening anytime soon, it turns out that Oh follows the show, and was very unhappy with one plot line. Namely, that Owen got married to Amelia Shepherd. Owen himself (actor Kevin McKidd) recently revealed this, saying:

While Cristina and Owen's marriage was far from idyllic, it looks like Sandra Oh doesn't want Dr. Hunt to get married to anyone else. Luckily for her, that seems to be exactly what's happening on the show at the moment.

Kevin McKidd's comments to ET about Sandra Oh are sure to echo the concerns of many hardcore Grey's fans. Because the relationship and eventual marriage between Owen and Amelia has never felt quite right to much of the fandom. She always seemed disinterested in him (sound familiar?), while also being a bit of a basket case. But unlike Cristina, Amelia didn't have the long relationship with Grey's fans to facilitate this choice. Plus, it did always seem like Owen and Cristina Yang were true loves-- she's just terrible at relationships.

It certainly looks like Owen and Amelia's marriage is all but disintegrated at this point. After getting a massive brain tumor removed, Amelia resolved Owen of their marriage, and his dedication to her. Amelia is attempting to figure out how much of her actions in the past few years have actually been motivated by the tumor, and which have been her own choice. Plus, it looks like Owen is moving on by smooching up on DeLuca's sister Carina at the moment. Just don't involve more wedding bells-- Sandra Oh might just lose it.

Despite being into its 14th season, Grey's Anatomy is showing no signs of stopping. This week will mark the show's whopping 300th episode on the air, and ABC has been getting fans amped up with a companion show focusing on the show's long tenure. And while it doesn't look like Sandra Oh is returning to the show anytime soon, she seems to be willing to come back for whenever a series finale happens.

Grey's Anatomy won't be back on ABC for another few months, but that doesn't mean we won't be seeing any drama involving the show. Well, maybe it's not REAL drama, but it's also not scripted drama. Check out what former cast member Sandra Oh was up to recently, and who she was up to it with.

Hilarious! Although it does take a bit of show knowledge to follow along. For ten seasons of Grey's Anatomy, Sandra Oh played the pragmatic surgeon Christina Yang, eventually exiting the role to move on to other projects. For several of those years, Christina was married to surgeon Owen Hunt, as played by Kevin McKidd, seen in the picture with Oh. The characters had problems, divorced and officially split when Christina left for Switzerland, and Owen moved on and started up a relationship with Caterina Scorsone's Amelia Shepherd, which culminated in their wedding day in the Season 12 finale.

I think we're all up to speed on where things are going in both real life and fiction with these two actors, at least in relation to each other. But we haven't seen all of the faux shade that Sandra Oh is flinging at Kevin McKidd's current TV nuptials. Check out Oh's next tweet.

Sadly, this isn't indicative of Sandra Oh returning to the Grey's Anatomy multiverse in any form, although that would be a welcome sight next season. The actress popped onto Twitter after a hiatus with a shot of her hanging with McKidd and Tony Phelan, the creator of the upcoming CBS thriller _Doubt. _(That show happens to star Oh's former co-star Katherine Heigl.)

With so many months left to go until Season 13 gets here, news about upcoming Grey's Anatomy situations are few and far between, although we won't have to worry about any Callie, since Sara Ramirez exited We know that big things are going to happen with Jo and Alex, as well as Bailey and Ben. And there are rumors that Owen and Amelia might be welcoming another into the family. Just think of what Sandra Oh would have to say to that.

This story has something for everyone. First, let's appease all the ladies who just can't enough of dreamy Dr. Hunt on Grey's Anatomy. Actor Kevin McKidd says he will soon be stepping out of his scrubs and back into his Roman warrior garb in a big screen adaptation of the short lived HBO series, Rome. Despite his being “dead” in the show, McKidd revealed to Pop Wrap that, "He's very much alive, so that should be a fun story to tell." No word yet on when this will start production, but there's a script making the rounds and apparently it's good.

Now on to the MAN NEWS! What you may NOT know about McKidd is that he recently voiced uber badass Captain 'Soap' MacTavish in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 which just hit the shelves last week and has broken every five-day record set by any medium, including books and cinema, by bringing in over $550 million. That “holy shittitude” has sparked interest in bringing the franchise to the big screen, says McKidd. Referring to himself as “Gerard 2” (a fun poke at his always playing second fiddle to fellow Scot Gerard Butler), McKidd says he'll "absolutely" be stepping into Soap's real-life army boots, "if the script is good, and Gerard isn't available [laughs]." The ball is apparently barely rolling on this one, but with that much money involved, you can bet something will happen soon.

I wasn't a Rome watcher, but for anyone who was this will be a great opportunity to have any loose ends tied up and round out the series. As far as Call of Duty goes, let's get going on this one shall we? If done properly, it'll be one of the best all-out action pieces since Saving Private Ryan. Just don't give it to Uwe Boll.

Maybe there really should have been only one, but the Highlander franchise seems to be Immortal. Cut off its head and someone else absorbs its power, and the whole thing keeps right on going. At least this time, they're dropping the sequels and starting over. Summit is planning a Highlander reboot (more details here), directed by Fast & Furious helmer Justin Lin. They're restarting the Highlander mythos from scratch and they're going to need an all new cast.

Now it's Summit, so odds are they'll spare us all to death by handing the Twilight cast swords and letting them look longingly at each other while they hold them. But I'm a Highlander fan, and I think we've suffered enough. Summit, before you cast Dakota Fanning as The Kurgan, take a look at the cast I have in mind.

Connor MacLeod is a Celtic warrior born in the Scottish Highlands in 1536, and he's still alive. He's brooding, haunted, and tends to keep to himself. The actor cast in the part must be of medium build and comfortable wearing a kilt. That doesn't mean he has to be Scottish, in the original film he's played by Frenchman Christopher Lambert attempting a vaguely strange Scottish accent. Still as long as we're doing this over why not do it right and go with a native. The temptation here will be to go with a big star, someone whose name they can put on the posters to sell it. On the other hand Summit Entertainment has some experience creating a sensation out of unknowns, they did it with Twilight and maybe we can talk them into doing it again with Highlander.

Right Choice: There's really only one man to play Connor. His name is Kevin McKidd. If you know him at all, you probably know McKidd as one of the dreamy doctors on Grey's Anatomy or as the sensitive time traveler on television's short-lived Journeyman. But he's also capable of picking up a sword, as he did on Rome, or strapping on a kilt and playing a tough as nails Scotsman as he did in, believe it or not, Made of Honor. McKidd was born in Elgin, Scotland so he won't have to fake the accent, he's been around the occasional sword, he has the right build, he's about the right age, and most of all, he can act. McKidd's been right on the cusp of blowing up for years now. This is the perfect role for him and rumor has it that Summit agrees. McKidd claimed back in 2008 that he'd been approached about the role.

Hollywood Choice: Should they be tempted to go with a “name” they can flash in the credits, don't be surprised if they go after Gerard Butler. Or there's always Viggo Mortensen and Karl Urban. The Scottish actor default more often than not, seems to be James McAvoy but it's hard to imagine the star of Wanted playing a burly Celtic warrior. I can live with any of those as long as it's not Orlando Bloom or worse, since it's Summit, Robert Pattinson.

Ramirez is a much older Immortal who discovers Connor and takes him under his wing. He's the movie's obligatory mentor character. Originally played by Sean Connery, Ramirez styles himself as a Spaniard even though he was actually born in Egypt in 896 BC. That of course, doesn't explain Connery's Scottish accent. He also carries a Japanese dragon head katana which he eventually passes on to Connor. The character's multi-cultural, quirky, somewhat elderly, overweight, and has a wicked sense of humor.

Right Choice: Should Summit actually cast Kevin McKidd as Connor they'll be even more tempted to go with a big name here, but I'm going to make this plea anyway: Cast Mandy Patinkin. Imagine an elderly version of Inigo Montoya instructing Connor in the ways of the Quickening and you'll get what I'm going for here. Granted Ramirez isn't actually a Spaniard, but he's patterned himself after one and who better to teach Connor MacLeod swordplay than someone who dedicated his entire life to becoming a swordsman. Granted, Patinkin isn't exactly in fighting shape these days. He's gotten fat and old and saggy, but that's ok. He's playing the elderly mentor character here and Connery wasn't exactly fighting trim when he played the part either. If for some reason they can't get Patinkin consider Billy Connolly. His comedic brand of insanity is a perfect fit for Ramirez's tough love sensibility.

Hollywood Choice: You just know they're going to want to cast Liam Neeson. He's the mentor character default for any movie, particular those which involve swordplay. Neeson would almost certainly, knock it out of the park, but he's played so many of these Ramirez-like characters by now that it's a horrible cliché. Time for something new.

The Kurgan is Highlander's bad guy, a physically imposing barbarian warrior born into an ancient tribe known primarily for tossing its children into pits full of starved dogs to watch them fight for their amusement. He's not a nice man. The Kurgan shows up ancient Scotland to scar Connor forever and he's there at the end as the final remaining Immortal who Connor must fight and defeat to win the elusive “prize”. In the original film he's played by Clancy Brown, a 6'3” American actor with a deep voice and physically imposing presence.

Right Choice: I'm going to take a complete left turn here and suggest they forget trying to find a Clancy Brown clone and instead go a completely different direction with the character. Bring in a John Malkovich or if you really want to think outside the box, consider casting Shirley Manson. She's been playing a cold-hearted bitch killer on television's Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles and barbarian badass isn't much of a stretch from that. In the original Highlander women were relegated to nookie girls but it's 2009, so why not give the girls something more to do? Let her kick Connor MacLeod's ass.

Hollywood Choice: When Hollywood thinks physically imposing badass, they think Gerard Butler. If they go with McKidd for Connor maybe they'll blow their Butler wad here. Besides, he's sort of due to play a bad guy. If they're short on cash though, don't be surprised to see Summit cast some horrible wrestler. John Cena anyone?

Freddie Mercury isn't actually in the movie but Queen wrote and performed the soundtrack and, as much as any of the actors in the film, it went on to define and shape Highlander's aesthetic. Their music is a key component in what made Highlander such a cult phenomenon. Songs like “Don't Lose Your Head” and “Who Wants To Live Forever” went on to define an entire generation of sword-swinging, mullet-wearing, metal-heads.

Right Choice: Rock is dead and so is Freddie Mercury. If he's smart director Justin Lin will still find a way to work in a few songs, either the classic Queen version or the odd remake of them. But bottom line they're going to need someone else and a generic John Williams soundtrack just won't do. As long as they've got Shirley Manson it might make sense to bring in Garbage but odds are Summit will want something at least a little more trendy. This is the Twilight studio after all. That only leaves Muse, the closest thing Queen has to a modern successor. They've got the right kind of underground indie sound and while they don't necessarily perform drunk (come on pick up a bottle you assholes) they're rumored to have the same kind of over the top live show energy Queen had on stage. Give them a call. Anything but Dragonforce.

Hollywood Choice: These days when Hollywood wants a rock soundtrack they invariably hire Linkin Park. Brace yourselves, it'll happen.
