Malcolm-Jamal Warner was an actor I always greatly admired, which is why I was not only shocked but also deeply upset by his sudden passing at 54 from a drowning incident. Like most people, I discovered him through his Emmy-nominated performance on The Cosby Show as Theo Huxtable, which undoubtedly remains his best-known role, but it is not all I know him from.

Beyond catching reruns of the classic TV sitcom on Nick at Nite, Warner became a performer I always kept an eye out for and was delighted to see pop up in all kinds of titles that demonstrated his pristine versatility. I wanted to take a moment to look back on some of the relatively underrated Malcolm-Jamal Warner performances that made me think, Man, Theo has skills, and will have me missing him for years to come.

He Proved Himself As A Great Sitcom Lead In Malcolm & Eddie

Just a few years after The Cosby Show ended, Warner was given the chance to headline his own TV comedy, alongside comedian Eddie Griffin, with Malcolm & Eddie. I would describe the show, airing from 1996 to 2000, as the love child of The Odd Couple and Kenan & Kel (if that latter Nickelodeon show was for grown-ups), following the misadventures of the eponymous mismatched roommates and business partners.

This was another sitcom of Warner’s that I caught in reruns, partially because I did not have UPN while it still existed, and I really admired his chemistry with Griffin as the witty straight man to his goofier foil. I was surprised to hear recently, from an interview with DCP Entertainment, that the duo did not get along behind the scenes. However, things luckily cooled down between them, as one could see from Griffin’s heartfelt tribute to Warner that he shared with Variety.

He Proved His Dramatic Chops On The Dystopian Thriller Jeremiah

A couple of years after Malcolm & Eddie was cancelled, Warner was given the chance to prove that his talents were suited for more than just laughs on a series called Jeremiah. The short-lived dystopian sci-fi drama, which ran for two seasons on Showtime, starred Luke Perry, another actor taken too soon, as the title hero, who embarks on a quest to find a fabled sanctuary in a world nearly eradicated by a deadly virus that only pre-pubescent people were immune to.

This is another show that I caught in reruns (once again because I did not have the channel) and initially turned on because of Warner, as it was a role unlike anything I had ever seen from him before. As far as I am concerned, he absolutely nailed his performance as Kurdy, a wise and noble warrior who acts as Jeremiah’s trusted companion on his journey, which makes me want to revisit the series with my Amazon Prime subscription very soon.

He Made The Short-Lived Sitcom Listen Up Worth Sticking Around For

Warner’s follow-up to Jeremiah saw him heading back to sitcom territory, this time as a sidekick to none other than former Seinfeld cast member Jason Alexander. Listen Up was the George Costanza actor’s second attempt to lead his own comedy after the hit NBC series ended, and starred him as sports commentator and family man, Tony Kleinman.

Now, this one I actually watched in its prime and was, perhaps, one of the few people who did during its single-season run on CBS. Yet, despite my lifelong affinity for Seinfeld, especially George Costanza’s greatest hits, it was Warner who kept me coming back. He is a perfect fit for the scene-stealing role of Tony’s co-host and best friend, Bernie Widmer, who often steals the spotlight from the character on the show in funny ways.

He Left A Memorable Mark On Community

For all the guest stars on Community that some may have forgotten about, I would certainly not include Malcolm-Jamal Warner on that list. In fact, I think the actor has one of the most memorable appearances on the irreverent NBC comedy.

He appeared in four episodes as Shirley Bennett’s (Yvette Nicole Brown) ex-husband, Andre, and for what his stint lacks in length, Warner makes up for with his unquestionably radiant charm. The scene when he proposes to Shirley a second time, accompanied by a dancing quartet performing a Boyz II Men song, is one of the show’s most heartwarming moments, even if their second marriage does not pan out in the end.

He Gave An Arresting Performance On Accused

A key reason I became interested in watching Fox’s adaptation of a U.K. series depicting multiple stories of ordinary citizens in troubling legal situations was knowing that Warner was in the Accused cast. In fact, I would call his episode, “Kendall’s Story,” one of the best episodes of the anthology TV show.

Warner’s heartbreaking lead performance carries this story of a husband and father coerced by his friends and coworkers into taking matters into his own hands when his young daughter is sexually assaulted. It is a harrowing portrait of a man driven to unimaginable lengths by an unspeakable crime that might be his strongest dramatic role.

He Owned One Of The Best Key & Peele Cameos

Key & Peele is a great sketch comedy series lauded as much for Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele’s hilarious bits as for its sensational guest star appearances. I believe that Warner most definitely earns a spot on that list.

He shows up in a funny sketch taking place at a gathering for the Tallahassee Black Republicans, who, as the sketch comes to reveal, are not a particularly diverse group in terms of their personalities and even their wardrobe choices. Warner’s Arthur Washington is introduced as an expert in explaining the diversity among Black conservatives, but ends up having nothing new to offer to the conversation, essentially repeating what Key and Peele’s characters already said. However, the actor can’t seem to help but slip in some distinctive quirks to his performance that really help it stand out as one of Key & Peele’s most memorable and funniest cameos.

These are some of the performances outside of The Cosby Show that made me a fan of Malcolm-Jamal Warner. I only wish we had more to look forward to from the actor.

It’s hard to break into the sketch comedy scene, and even harder to become successful in it. Key & Peele is definitely one of the best sketch comedy shows to ever exist on television, and it ran for five seasons from 2012 to 2015 on Comedy Central. Not only that, but Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele have built wildly successful careers off it. However, fans have wondered why the two don’t seem as close anymore, and the Playing With Fire actor has decided to shed some light on their current relationship.

After previously mentioning they, unfortunately, don’t see each other much anymore, the Jingle Jangle actor recently clarified the nature of their relationship these days, telling People it more so has to do with the distance:

Man, I miss seeing these two comedic geniuses collaborate on Key & Peele. The comedic chemistry they share is off the charts, and it was what made their Comedy Central sketch comedy show so successful. Some of Key and Peele's funniest sketches were when it was just the two of them smoothly playing off each other, like Luther, “Obama’s Anger Translator” and “I Said Bitch.” So it doesn’t surprise me when the Migration actor says they carry that energy in their real-life friendship.

Continuing to talk about where their relationship stands these days, Key explained:

Could Key be hinting at a possible upcoming project between the two? It’s not impossible, as the pair have worked together in recent years on Toy Story 4 and Wendell & Wild. However, it’s been almost a decade since we’ve actually seen the friends appear together in the flesh for an on-screen project. If no one has said it, let me be the first: that’s too long!

Upon the conclusion of their sketch comedy series, the comedian duo remained close, starring in the 2016 action-comedy Keanu together before choosing to focus on other individual pursuits.

Peele’s career took a 180 into the thriller/horror genre and has earned quite a respected reputation because of movies like Get Out and Nope.

Key’s catalog on the other hand has stayed more or less in the musical/comedy scene, with recent roles in Schmigadoon! and Wonka.

However, their diverging career paths clearly don’t mean they had a falling out. And now that it's been made clear where they stand in each other’s lives, fans can save some hope they will collaborate again. I’m waiting for the Friends From College actor to pop up in another Peele thriller flick. Or perhaps one of these days the Candyman producer will drop a Key & Peele easter egg into one of his scripts just like his buddy’s movie Transformers One.

If I’m being honest though, I would love to see them do some sketch comedy again for old-time's sake, even if it’s just for a Super Bowl commercial, alla Suits style. The Us director has admitted he hates being boxed into a specific genre or type of film, and I have a feeling he’s got a lot more he wants to explore. Maybe one of those paths will lead back to Key...

The now-iconic sketch comedy show Key & Peele has to be one of the most quoted TV shows of all time, so much so that fan-favorite sketches have already been beaten to death with the constant repetition of famous lines like “I said bi***” and “A-A-Ron!” It’s fair to assume that Keegan-Michael Key, one-half of the comedy duo, may be sick of hearing said quotes by now, but when Transformers One approached him with a script that referenced one of the most popular sketches of the show’s four-year run, he signed on without hesitation.

During my chat with Key about Transformers One, I had to bring up the scene where his character introduces a broken-down robot that he named “A-A-Tron,” a reference to the popular “Substitute Teacher” bit from the show. When I asked if there were any other Key & Peele references in the film that may have gone over my head, he said this:

What a good sport! That’s one way to get an actor to sign onto your project: work in a reference that’s hyper-specific to their career. In the film, Key plays an early version of popular Transformers character Bumblebee, who at the time is still known as B-127. Given how many alphanumeric names we hear at this stage of the film, A-A-Tron is a clever bit, and works very well as a reference that didn’t have to be shoehorned into the film. If it’s been a while since you’ve seen the “A-A-Ron” sketch, allow me to jog your memory:

As far as the other project that contained a Key & Peele reference, I’m not quite sure what Keegan-Michael Key is referring to, but it could be Toy Story 4. The two voiced Ducky and Bunny in the film, and while I can’t think of any jokes as blatant as “A-A-Tron,” they did bank on Key & Peele’s popularity in the marketing. Unfortunately the two don’t see each other much since the show ended, and both of their careers saw some changes. Still, I’m holding out hope that Key appears in a Peele-directed psychological horror flick. Only time will tell! Clever references to Key & Peele aside, Transformers One is getting a resounding nod of approval from both fans and critics alike. Despite working together for years on one of the best sketch comedy series of all time, Key & Peele creators and stars Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele haven’t been in a live-action project together since 2016’s kitten comedy Keanu. Their award-winning collaborations technically continued in voice-acting form for Toy Story 4 and Wendell & Wild, but Key’s latest comments about their relationship are kind of a bummer, and left me with a big question for the Pixar sequel Toy Story 5.

Speaking with People about this career at large, Keegan-Michael Key used a very strong word to describe his lack of communication with his former comedy cohort, saying:

In the scheme of things, it’s of course perfectly normal for two grown adults to drift off down different paths that aren’t quite as parallel as they once were, especially given that both are living the happy husband life. (Key is married to Elisa Pugliese, while Peele is married to Chelsea Peretti.) And they also live on opposite sides of the country, with Peele central to L.A. and Key in New York City.

But most grown adults weren’t responsible for some of the funniest comedy sketches of the 2000s, so this one stings way more.

Of course, anyone paying attention to the former co-stars’ respective careers can easily track why partnering up again and again wouldn’t be the most natural fit for either. Beyond his animated voicework, Peele has largely replaced acting with writing/directing gut-punching horror movies like Get Out and Us, while Key has balanced his prolific comedy career with stage work. The Reboot star reflected on the duo’s shift in ideologies, saying:

I suppose the move here is to be genuinely grateful for all the MADtv and K&P comedy they delivered, and happy that those projects allowed them the freedom to take on more formidable creative challenges. But the more selfish part of me just wants them to never stop working together. Which brings us to...

Will Ducky And Bunny Be Together Again In Toy Story 5?

For all that Forky was THE universally beloved new Toy Story character brought into the fourth film, it wouldn't have taken much for Key and Peele's Ducky and Bunny to steal that comedy crown. The carnival-geared stuffed animals were most delightful, thanks in large part to the rat-a-tat chemistry between the two actors.

But with Toy Story 5 set to arrive in theaters well after the 2025 movie schedule has concluded, it still hasn't been 100% confirmed just yet if Keagan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele will be reprising their roles. Plus, neither character was shown in the promotional concept art that Pixar released at D23 in August, even though Forky was there.

The expectation for them to return is there, since they both survived Toy Story 4's adventure and fronted the film's third and final post-credits sequence. But with Peele working on his upcoming mystery genre movie and lord knows what else afterward, on top of Key's busy career, the challenge may just be finding an opening in both of their schedules.

The best case scenario here is that Ducky and Bunny will get their own spinoff movie, which will be released right after Key joins one of Peele's horror movies, and ending world hunger is also involved. But here in this average-case scenario, we'll just have to wait and see if any future updates cement the characters' returns.

Toy Story 5 is set to arrive in theaters on June 19, 2026.

Anyone needing quick laughs or good vibes can look to the funniest movies of 2023 or to the best comedies streaming on Netflix. But those looking specifically for the unique pleasures that sketch comedy delivers, it’s not so quick or easy a search. There are a lot of lackluster efforts out there, but we’re bypassing all that noise to focus on the best of the best, the cream of the crop, the kinds of classics that don’t need “more cowbell” to remain watchable year after year, even if they weren't ever the most popular shows of any given year.

Inside Amy Schumer

From 2013-2016, and again in 2022, comedian Amy Schumer brought her signature self-deprecating feminist gaze to Comedy Central and Paramount+ audiences with Inside Amy Schumer. Like many sketch series, this Emmy- and Peabody-winning comedy boasted a bevy of A+ guest stars — Jeff Goldblum, America Ferrera, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, etc. — joining Schumer in taking on an abundance stereotypes tied to gender, sex work, relationships and more. Beware the man in the “chicken” suit.

Monty Python's Flying Circus

It’s…arguably the most influential comedy troupe of any location or era. The Monty Python clan — Graham Chapman, John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, Terry Jones, and Michael Palin — made their small screen mark with four standout seasons of Monty Python’s Flying Circus (1969-1974). Even if the jokes about chartered accountancy don’t seem timely, the timeless sketches about Silly Walks, the Spanish Inquisition, fish-slapping dances, paid arguments and more will forever rank in sketch comedy’s uppermost echelon.

Chappelle's Show

Years before becoming a stand-up lightning rod for backlashes, Dave Chappelle and Neal Brennan delivered two genius seasons of racially and sexually charged sketch comedy with Chappelle’s Show, with Charlie Murphy, Donnell Rawlins and Paul Mooney also achieving all-star status. Though the namesake star was famously stressed out enough to exit the series before its third season was completed, the 44 episodes that were crafted have been all over the decades of pop culture that followed, with myriad memes focusing on some of Chappelle’s most memorable performances, from Prince to Clayton Bigsby to - Shazam! - Tyron Biggums.

Portlandia

In the way that Chappelle’s Show and Black Lady Sketch Show dig their claws into Black culture, Portlandia’s hyper-specific magnification of Portland’s hipster scene makes it one of the whitest (and weirdest) of sketch comedy’s higher ranks. Co-creators and stars Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein gave fans eight seasons of quirky, grungy, flighty, snobby, stoner, loner, groaner, balogn-er characters that couldn’t come from anywhere else on the planet, and the same could be said for all the guest stars.

Tracey Takes On...

A few years after her multicam Fox series that gave the world The Simpsons, the ever-brilliant Tracey Ullman shifted her talents to HBO for the more polished satire of Tracey Takes On…, in which each episode featured an assortment of Ullman’s awkward and/or aggressive characters in themed situations, from Love to Royalty to Vegas and beyond. The series, which was spawned from her 1993 comedy special, lasted for four seasons, and itself led to the spinoff special Tracey Ullman in the Trailer Tales in 2003.

Key & Peele

Jordan Peele’s haunting directorial efforts belie his silly-ass sense of humor, which was on full display during the five pause-from-laughing-too-hard seasons of Comedy Central’s Key & Peele, co-created by and co-starring Keegan-Michael Key. The winner of two Emmys and a Peabody, the sketch series spawned such memorable characters as The Valets, Meegan, Mr. Garvey and many more. One oof the all-time best sketches, which happens to be my personal favorite, is the gloriously absurd East/West Bowl team lineups.

The Muppet Show

Muppet mastermind Jim Henson’s emotional and comedic intuition can never be overestimated, and it was perhaps at its most unfettered with The Muppet Show’s five seasons, which ran from 1976-1981. Though many of the musical segments were straightforwardly sincere, and Muppet humor doesn’t cut like modern satire, nothing quite compares to the enduring joy of Kermit the Frog reach his boiling point, Fozzie failing to realize how bad his jokes are, Bunson and Beaker’s foibles and all the rest. Guest stars are a bonus here, including Mark Hamill, don Knotts, Alice Cooper and Vincent Price.

In Living Color

It’s hard to believe that one TV show was the fame catalyst for Jim Carrey, Jamie Foxx, most of the Wayans family, and Jennifer Lopez, but such was the fateful timing of In Living Color (1990-1993), Fox’s raucous and riotous sketch series created by Keenan Ivory Wayans. Some of the most notorious (and possibly offensive) creations across the Emmy-winning show’s five seasons were Fire Marshall Bill, the snap-tastic Men on… segments, homeless cretin Anton Jackson, Head Detective, and a good number of its wild impersonations, such as “Three Champs and a Baby.”

The State

The 11-member creative team behind The State (1994-95) has been involved in roughly 40% of all things comedy since the show’s four-season run on MTV, and it’s because they’re all genuinely hilarious writers and gifted performers. No one in Hollywood is quite like Ken “Dips His Balls In It” Marino or Michael “I’m Outta Hee-ee-eere” Showalter, and there similarly aren’t any sketch shows that match the same levels of purposeful ludicrousness as The State. (Truth be told, it would make this list simply for being the bridge to Wet Hot American Summer.)

SCTV

Many would likely agree Second City Television would deserve a spot within sketch TV’s Mount Rushmore, even despite its Canadian origins, for the charm, skill, and hilarity of its all-star cast, including Rick Moranis, John Candy, Catherine O’Hara, Eugene Levy and more. Lasting for six seasons from 1976-84, SCTV gave viewers a smorgasbord of faux daytime and primetime offerings, from the soapy “The Days of the Week” to Martin Short’s Ed Grimley to Joe Flaherty’s cable horror host Count Floyd, with Moranis and Dave Thomas’ beer-swilling Bob and Doug still as popular today.

That Mitchell And Webb Look

Quite possibly the only piece of art that will ever feature anything dubbed “The Surprising Adventures of Sir Digby Chicken Caesar,” the UK winner That Mitchell and Webb Look (2006-2010) stands out for 2, 5, or 37 more reasons. (And that’s Numberwang!) From the brains of Peep Show’s David Mitchell and Robert Webb, as well as Succession creator Jesse Armstrong, TMAWL brought the delightful absurdity of the duo’s radio show to the visual medium, with a cast boasting Oscar winners Olivia Colman and Daniel Kaluuya, among others. This BAFTA-winning series definitely isn’t one of the baddies, Hans.

Upright Citizens Brigade

Upright Citizens Brigade is now one of the most prominent comedy organizations in the U.S., but at one time it served as one of TV’s most unpredictable sketch shows. Airing for three seasons from 1998-2000, the series is best known for preposterous sketch concepts like Poo Stick, Bucket of Truth, and Little Donny (and his massive pixelated dong), but works as well as it does because of the conviction of stars Matt Besser, Ian Roberts, Matt Walsh and Amy Poehler, all of whom have gone on to star in a zillion comedy projects.

Rowan And Martin's Laugh-In

Like no sketch comedy series before or since, Dan Rowan and Dick Martin’s Laugh-In had the advantage (or disadvantage) of airing during the hippie-dippy era surrounding the Vietnam war, from 1968-1973. As such, a lot of the comedy presented more “high” brow than highbrow, with all manner of one-liners and puns that would be at home in a tome of Dad jokes, both innocent and bawdy. It was where quite a few TV and film icons honed their skills, including Richard Dawson, Goldie Hawn, Lily Tomlin and Flip Wilson.

Tim And Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!

Nobody excels with cringe sketch comedy quite like Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim, the duo who have deadpanned their way through myriad weird encounters during the five seasons and add-on specials comprising the 2007-2010 run of Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!, to the point where “Tim and Eric” has become shorthand for describing any kind of weird, shortform humor with an amateur aesthetic that would feel at home on Adult Swim, and its success can be exemplified in part by the pair’s follow-up projects at the network.

A Black Lady Sketch Show

Created by the wildly talented Robin Thede, who also dishes up some of the series’ most ridiculous personalities, A Black Lady Sketch Show views life through the titular feminine lens, and is all the more unique for it. It’s a testament to the writers and talented cast (which included Quinta Brunson and Gabrielle Dennis) that the majority of sketches are universally hilarious, no matter how nuanced or subversive, with no genre being spared from the coochie-bouncing genius.

Kids In The Hall

One of Canada’s most beloved comedic imports, the prolifici Kids in the Hall quintet — Dave Foley, Kevin McDonald, Mark McKinney, Bruce McCulloch, and Scott Thompson — made their cabbage-headed mark with the eponymous TV show, which lasted for five seasons between 1988-1995, with a streaming revivial season debuting in 2022. (Not to mention the 1996 film Brain Candy and the 2010 miniseries Death Comes to Town.) The group’s quirky sensibilities and all-in performances have kept them as not popular as the Sizzler Sisters are not insane.

Human Giant

TV regulars Paul Scheer, Rob Huebel and Aziz Ansari combined their comedic powers early in their careers for the endlessly silly and quotable MTV sketch show Human Giant, which lasted for two seasons from 2007-08. (The third was planned, but never happened due to Ansari’s Parks and Recreation schedule.) From the frequently recurring discomfort of “Shutterbugs” to the somewhat equal discomfort of the performative magicians Illusionators — as well as fun with time machines, Doritos commercials and commercials jings — Human Giant is a rapid-paced delight.

Mr. Show

For four seasons, David Cross and Bob Odenkirk were seemingly allowed to put any idea they wanted (and could frugally budget) into HBO’s Mr. Show (1995-1998), from drugged-up Krofft-esque puppets to a faux biopic about this one guy’s taint to the death of art in “Coupon: The Movie.” The R-rated sketches and songs were as smart as they were silly and anarchic, with an A+ cast including superstars like Jack Black, Sarah Silverman and SpongeBob himself, Tom Kinney.

The Birthday Boys

Sketch comedy king Bob Odenkirk helped bring the comedy troupe The Birthday Boys to the masses via the IFC series of the same name, which ran for 2 seasons from 2013-14. With cast members who went on to co-host the similarly monikered podcasts Doughboys and The Sloppy Boys, TBB is delightfully goofy, over-the-top and unapologetically immature, with no subject matter too ridiculous. (The episode “All Your Favorites Are Back” rivals Key & Peele’s “East/West Bowl” by way of an endless line of hilarious fake names.)

MADtv

Sharing little in common with its satirical magazine namesake, at least outside of “Spy vs. Spy” toons, MADtv remains one of the longest-running sketch shows of all time, lasting for 14 seasons on Fox (1995-2009), and then a single revival year on The CW in 2016. From movie and TV parodies — “Gump Fiction” remains an all-time great — to recurring characters like Michael McDonald’s Stuart or Nicole Sullivan’s Vancome Lady, MADtv is akin to SNL for often having as many misses as hits for certain viewers, but anybody who loves celebrity impressions will gets years’ worth of enjoyment out of Will Sasso, Aries Spears and Frank Caliendo alone.

A Bit Of Fry And Laurie

A Bit of Fry and Laurie, created by and starring Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie, is an unmistakably British sketch comedy, such is its adherence to language, wordplay, and man-on-the-street moments. (As well as UK government, natch.) With four seasons produced between 1987 and 1995, the series remains beloved thanks to the enduring careers of its hilarious stars, and to the light metal grooves of The Bishop and the Warlord.

Whitest Kids U'Know

With their troupe roots going back to 1999, the Whitest Kids U’ Know members — Sam Brown, Zach Cregger, Trevor Moore, Darren Trumeter and Timmy Williams — gained a far wider fandom when their batshit-zany and often offensive sketch show of the same name debuted on Fuse, later moving to IFC for Seasons 2-5. Spinning things like “I’m gonna grape you in the mouth” into pop culture quotables, TWKUW crafted a sketch comedy rarity in Season 5’s ten “Civil War on Drugs” segments, which were later edited into a single doozy of a feature.

Big Train

Ahead of the utter brilliance of Spaced and Shaun of the Dead, Simon Pegg made his mark on sketch comedy in Graham Linehan and Arthur Miller’s two-season cult fave Big Train (1998-2002). Co-starring Mark Heap, Catherine Tate and more, the show’s sketches are largely based on the simple premise of “ordinary moments spiraling into wackiness.” With a penchant for pitting pop musicians from the ‘70s and ‘80s in bonkers situations, the most predictable thing about Big Train is how unpredictable it is from one moment to the next.

Big Train is not currently available for streaming in the U.S. 

Bizarre

Canadian comedian John Byner and the Bizarre team broke a lot of weird ground with the 1980-1986 series, which aired in the U.S. in uncensored form via Showtime. For all the naughty fun had by the talented cast — including Mike Myers and Don Lake — arguably the show’s legacy rests in the accident-prone hands of Bob Einstein’s Super Dave Osbourne, as the faux stuntman’s popularity exploded thanks to frequent hazard-filled appearances throughout Bizarre’s run. 

Bizarre is currently unavailable to stream in the U.S.

Astronomy Club

With its titular troupe serving as the Upright Citizens Brigade’s first all-Black squad, Astronomy Club landed on Netflix in 2019 for its lone season thanks to executive producer Kenya Barris. With the overarching narrative that its cast is in a Big Brother-esque reality show beyond the sketches, the series honed in on the Black experience, tackling race and other issues with sharpness, with guest stars like Ice Cube and Busy Phillips. One can only imagine how much better it could have become had it lasted more than the one season.

Stella

From the ensemble of MTV’s The State came the stage show-turned-sketch series Stella, co-created by stars Michael Ian Black, Michael Showalter and David Wain. Though it only lasted for a single season of ten episodes, Stella is expertly honed absurdity in bite-sized form, with the series pitting the abnormal trio against normal life, though without some of the black humor that fueled the original video shorts. Bringing guest stars in like Paul Rudd, Rashida Jones and Sam Rockwell is anything but absurd, though.

Hey Vern, It's Ernest

While Nickelodeon is usually the spot where kid-friendly sketch comedy is found, CBS Saturday mornings is where viewers could find Jim Varney in full denim mode for Hey Vern, It’s Ernest, the one-season effort centering on the actor’s signature Ernest P. Worrell character. The show is a revolving door of weird shit, with rapid-fire sketches and segments featuring Varney in a plethora of costumes and prosthetics, and a ton of charm-laden practical effects on display throughout. It doesn’t seem like a recurring sketch about a barber misunderstanding the words “wall street tycoon” would work every time, but Varney sells it all. Even the nightmarish Baby Ernest...

Hey Vern, It’s Ernest isn’t currently available to stream in the U.S.

The Ben Stiller Show

A microcosm of early ‘90s pop culture, The Ben Stiller Show is possibly the only series to air one 13-episode season across three different channels, face cancellation, and then win an Emmy for Outstanding Writing. Such was the offbeat and high-energy power of this MTV-adjacent sketch series, which featured a host of talent from stars Janeane Garofalo and Bob Odenkirk to writer David Cross and co-creator Judd Apatow (whose Jay Leno impression is on full display). And it also boasts the badge of honor that comes with remaining more relevant and enjoyable than a lot of the movie, TV and music projects it parodied.

Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele have produced some excellent films and TV shows in recent years but, if you’re like me, you probably still miss their work on Key & Peele. The beloved show arguably still stands as the two stars’ seminal comedic work, thanks to the plethora of perfect characters they and their colleagues crafted. A particularly memorable one is the vivacious Mr. Garvey, a substitute teacher who has a knack for mispronouncing his students’ names. I’ve missed him tremendously, so I was delighted to see Key channel the character when being asked to say “Willy Wonka” as his alter ego would. Believe me when I say he did not disappoint. 

The 52-year-old funnyman is a member of the Wonka cast and has been doing press alongside his co-stars as of late. He and the film’s lead, Timothée Chalamet, chatted it up with Jake Hamilton, a co-host of our own ReelBlend podcast. A fan of the Mr. Garvey character, Hamilton couldn’t help but ask his portrayer how the former inner city educator would say the name of one of cinema’s most famous chocolatiers. You can see the result in the Instagram clip below, and prepare to crack up as much as the actors did: 

I can’t tell you just how many times I’ve watched this A+ moment, which is the result of a really good question. Funny enough, in the full interview from Jake’s Takes (which is on YouTube), the eponymous host teed it up as the “stupidest” query the actors would hear that day. I think I speak for K&P fans everywhere when I say thank you to Jake for inquiring about that. 

The bits involving Mr. Garvey are still amongst the funniest sketches from Key & Peele’s five-season run on Comedy Central. In them, the teacher loses his patience while taking attendance, as he believes students like Jacqueline, Blake and Aaron are lying about their names. What results is nothing short of comedy gold, and it’s proven so popular that the character even returned in a Paramount+ ad last year. What’s always amazed me is just how much the two stars committed to the characters they played on the show. Keegan-Michael Key, in particular, brought his immense energy to other roles, like that of President Obama’s anger translator, Luther and one of the equally hyped valets. Key previously revealed that Eddie Murphy inspired him to get into sketch comedy, as he saw the iconic comic’s Steve Wonder impression on SNL years ago. Today, I’d say that Key has more than made his mark in that world. 

Based on the footage from Wonka, one of the entries on the schedule of 2023 new movie releases, the Keanu star also had a solid level of vigor while working on that movie. He plays the role of an antagonistic police chief, who helps undermine the titular candy maker’s growing enterprise. When it comes to the comedic elements, the Tomorrowland alum seems to have solid chemistry with Timothée Chalamet. 

I definitely pine for more humorous skits from Keegan-Michael Key that involve Mr. Garvey and some of his other famous creations. However, it’s also great that he’s been able to branch out and try his hand at varied productions. Yet I’ll continue to savor any moment that he – or Jordan Peele – decide to reference or reprise any of their famous roles.

Saturday Night Live has spawned multiple comedy stars and influenced generations of comedic talents in the sketch comedy arena. One of those talents who was influenced by the late-night institution was film and TV actor Keegan-Michael Key. Like many young fans during the series’ early years, Key found a particular cast member to idolize. His idol was the then-rising star Eddie Murphy. Now, the Key & Peele star has unveiled which classic Eddie Murphy SNL bit encouraged him to pursue sketch comedy, and it's a classic.

The comedic actor hasn’t been shy about Murphy's influence on his career. The Coming 2 America star’s Saturday Night Live run opened Key up to sketch comedy. He recalled seeing the impact of Murphy on his father in his forthcoming book The History of Sketch Comedy: A Journey through the Art and Craft of Humor (via EW). Key said:

Seeing the young comedian on TV caused Key's stoic dad to let his guard down, and it opened a new world for a young Key. During his run on the sketch comedy series, Murphy was making viewers laugh weekly through his impersonations and memorable characters. The Oscar nominee’s comedy chops led to the pair sharing a father-son moment. In recounting the memory, the Key & Peele star pinpointed the specific Murphy sketch in his forthcoming book, saying:

Murphy impersonating Stevie Wonder is one of the classics from SNL’s 48 seasons. Watching the comedy icon imitating the Grammy winner in his presence still elicits laughs to this day. Years after leaving the late-night series, fans still ask the comedy legend about the sketch or doing the impersonation. Understandably, the Stevie Wonder skit impacted a young Key, and the Dreamgirls star helped to revitalize the then-flagging show. 

Key gained recognition on the rival Fox sketch series MAD TV before catapulting to TV stardom with Comedy Central’s Key & Peele. The Schmigadoon! star even lived out his SNL dreams by hosting the show in 2021. And just like his idol, Keegan-Michael Key got to participate in a viral sketch by spoofing Michael Jordan and his pop culture-dominating docuseries The Last Dance. Doing so led to some viral moments rivaling the Emmy-winning sports miniseries. 

Keegan-Michael Key’s career has reached new heights since appearing on SNL. He made waves earlier this year as the beloved Toad in the blockbuster hit The Super Mario Bros. Movie. He still has more projects on the 2023 movie schedule too, including Wonka with Timothée Chalamet. The movie will arrive in theaters on December 15. When it comes to modern moviemakers, one who's talked about a lot is Jordan Peele. While there have been some amazing directors who are legendary for so many reasons, such as Steven Spielberg or Martin Scorsese, Jordan Peele is slowly working his way up there as one of the best directors in Hollywood right now.

However, Peele has done plenty more than just directing. From acting to writing to producing, it seems Jordan Peele has done it all. With several films and TV shows under his belt, both old and new, I dedicated this list to him to talk about where you can stream some of the best Jordan Peele movies and TV shows, from his sketch show, Key and Peele, to his horror flicks, like Get Out.

Mad TV (2003 – 2008)

If you wanted to see the beginnings of Jordan Peel’s sketch comedy career, look no further than Mad TV. This late-night sketch comedy series, which ran for several seasons until 2016, was based on the humor of Mad Magazine, featuring fake commercials, mock movie trailers, impersonations and so much more.

From 2003-2008, Jordan Peele was a part of the cast of Mad TV, where we got to see the origins of his comedic skills, despite leaving the show on bad terms. Mad TV always competed against Saturday Night Live, but the cast and audience were more diverse than the older series. Plus, Jordan Peele in Mad TV is a sight to behold, and it’s always fun to think of how far he’s come.

Key and Peele (2012 – 2015)

I can’t have a Jordan Peele list without mentioning this great show. Key and Peele was a sketch comedy series that was created by Jordan Peele and actor Keegan-Michael Key. For years, they created some hysterical sketches and became household names for their comedy.

Key and Peele is iconic for a reason. Their sketches are absolutely hilarious and Key and Peele’s chemistry worked so well. It’s no wonder the show was so successful during its run. I hope one day Keegan-Michael Key appears in one of Peele’s new horror films – I’d love to see these two collaborate again.

Toy Story 4 (2019)

You just have to love those Pixar films, and Toy Story 4 is a great addition to them. In Toy Story 4, we see the continuation of Andy’s beloved toys, now in Bonnie’s possession, as they're taken on a crazy road trip that results in them meeting old faces, exploring new places, and more.

Jordan Peele plays Bunny in this film, a stuffed bunny at a carnival, and guess what? Keegan-Michael Key reunites with him to play Ducky, a stuffed duckling, at the carnival as well. Not only are their characters hilarious, but you get that same funny energy from the two of them that only Key and Peele could bring. All of the Toy Story films are great, but I especially love the fourth. And now with Toy Story 5 confirmed, we just might see these two again.

Get Out (2017) (Director, Writer, Producer)

The first feature film that Jordan Peele ever directed was Get Out, and boy did he deliver. Get Out follows the story of Chris and Rose, a young couple who go to meet her parents for the first time. But, when Chris arrives at her family’s cabin, strange things start to happen that make him want to get out.

The film was nominated for several awards for a reason, including a win for Peele at the Academy Awards for Best Screenwriting. The story is full of interesting plot twists, amazing acting, and some really cool deeper subjects that you don’t always get in a scary film. Get Out is a great horror flick with so many cool behind-the-scenes facts, and deserves all the praise that it’s gotten, and Peele, who directed, wrote, and produced the film, did a fantastic job. If you haven’t seen Get Out, do yourself a favor and watch it now. It’s honestly one of the best Blumhouse horror films, and something that everyone needs to see.

Us (2019) (Director, Writer, Producer)

The second film that Jordan Peele has directed thus far is Us, starring Lupita Nyong’o and Winston Duke. In Us, the Wilson family decides to go away for a nice vacation at a family cabin. Soon, their break away is interrupted when doppelganger versions of themselves appear and try to murder them.

Peele hit it out of the park again with Us, creating an amazingly brilliant horror film with a great story and amazing themes. Lupita Nyong’o was spectacular as Adelaide Wilson, starring as two different versions of herself, and the rest of the Us cast rocked it as well. It’s certainly one of the best free movies to watch right now.

BlacKkKlansman (2018) (Producer)

Jordan Peele didn’t direct or write this film, but he did produce BlacKkKlansman. In this Spike Lee-directed film, we follow the true story of the first African-American detective in the Colorado Springs police department, who sets out to infiltrate and expose the local Ku Klux Klan chapter.

The cast of BlackKkKlansman is to die for, with actors like Adam Driver, John David Washington, and more leading the charge with their amazing talents. The story itself is very interesting, with plenty of twists and turns, so much so you sometimes forget this is based on a true story.

Keanu (2016) (Writer and Producer)

Keanu is a brilliant example of what happens when Jordan Peele and Keegan-Michael Key come together to write and produce. In Keanu, we follow the tale of two cousins who infiltrate a street gang in order to retrieve their stolen kitten, Keanu.

It’s as silly as you would expect it to be. Buddy action films are always fun, but when it’s these two, I feel like the fun levels go up extremely. You get to see them work together again and show off their great comedic timing, while also enjoying a hysterical film. Plus, you get to see a little kitten throughout Keanu. It’s a win-win situation.

Candyman (2021) (Writer And Producer) 

2021’s Candyman was a great addition to Jordan Peele’s resume. A sequel to the 1992 film of the same name, this movie instead follows a painter who wishes to find out the secrets of the legendary “Candyman,” but in doing so, he ends up finding way more than he ever asked for and it costs him more than he ever thought it would. 

Personally, I actually really liked this sequel way more than the original, and I have a feeling it's because Jordan Peele both wrote the story and produced the film. You can tell how much love was put into it in an effort to make a truly satisfying sequel, and the story is just fantastic. Also, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is truly astounding in the lead role. I could watch him in horror movies over and over again.

Nope (2022) (Director, Writer, Producer)

Nope debuted in 2022 to stellar reviews from critics. In this film, a brother and sister start to notice strange happenings in their small town, and decide to take it upon themselves to figure out what’s going on – with the help of some friends. 

With a stellar Nope cast featuring Keke Palmer, Daniel Kaluuya, Steven Yeun and more, Nope was a fantastic addition to Peele’s horror resume. Could we possibly get a Nope sequel? Only time will tell.

Honk For Jesus, Save Your Soul (2022) (Executive Producer)

Peele didn’t direct or write this film, but he did bring his producing skills to the comedy, Honk For Jesus, Save Your Soul. In the movie, starring Regina Hall and This Is Us cast member Sterling K. Brown, we follow a pastor and his wife as they try to rebuild their church following a scandal that rocks their world. 

The film itself is full of funny moments and you just can’t help but admire the chemistry between Hall and Brown. But from the moment you watch the film, you can tell that Peele had some influence, as the comedy style is very much like his.

Wendell & Wild (2022) (Writer, Producer) 

We have the latest stop motion film to grace our television screens, Wendell & Wild. Directed by Henry Selick but co-written with Peele, this film tells the story of two demon brothers who are trying to get to the Land of the Living. And, in order to do so, they enlist the help of a thirteen-year-old-girl. 

I’ll give you two reasons to watch this film. First, it’s coming from the same man who directed Coraline, one of the best stop motion films ever. Secondly, it’s co-written by Peele, as mentioned before, but the biggest reason is that Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele are co-starring in it! It’s the return of Key & Peele! It really is one of the best stop-motion films in a long time, and one of the best animated films of 2022, as well as the brilliant Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio.

Monkey Man (2024) (Producer) (Coming Soon)

While Peele is still working on his fourth film as director, he has stepped into the producer's chair once again to produce Monkey Man, directed by Dev Patel. The new film follows a young man working at an underground fight club who decides to get revenge on a group of leaders – the same people who caused his mother’s death. 

Monkey Man so far has received tons of praise, with Dev Patel receiving a standing ovation at 2024’s SXSW, so it’s clear Peele’s magic has struck true again with his involvement in this movie as producer. Peele even spoke highly of the director at SXSW, saying that Patel put his “soul, energy, mind” and body into making the film:

“No one has put their soul, energy, mind, body into a film than this man. And he has done it for us to enjoy this film.”

It’s coming to theaters soon as part of the 2024 movie schedule, so be sure to check it out once it releases on April 5, 2024. 

These last few years have been crazy for Peele, so I'm eager to see what he is going to do next. His next film is confirmed with no set release date, but Peele has opened up about it and says that it could be his “favorite movie if done right.” 

We’ll be keeping an eye out for any news on his next big film. You can bet that as he releases more stuff, I am going to recommend you watch it all. He just doesn’t miss. 

In this golden age of television, there are so many amazing shows out there, from huge fantasy series like Game of Thrones to the greatest dramas ever, like Breaking Bad. And, today, I’m going to focus on some fantastic shows that are all led by talented Black actors and actresses. 

I’m talking classics like The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, to some of the latest and greatest, such as Atlanta. If you’re looking for some amazing TV shows led by Black actors, be sure to check out this list, as all of this will surely entertain you for plenty of hours. 

Insecure 

First up, we have the HBO original series, Insecure. Starring Issa Rae, Insecure is a modern day comedy, following two young Black women through their every-day triumphs and tribulations, from trying to find a new job to relationships of all types, and to heavier topics such as race. 

Insecure is honestly such a great series. From the first moment I watched it, I was captivated so much by Issa Rae’s performance that I was looking forward to whatever Rae had coming up next. The show offers hilarious moments and heartfelt/serious topics that truly make it one of the best comedies on TV in a long time. The show ended in 2021 with five great seasons to watch, so be sure to check it out.

Abbott Elementary 

One of the most recent entries on this list is Abbott Elementary. Filmed in a mockumentary style, this comedy series is set in Philadelphia and follows a group of teachers who work in an underfunded school , where it’s rare that a teacher ends up staying for more than a year. However, these certain teachers are trying to really change the game, and make the lives of their students that much easier and give them a proper education. 

The series actually won several awards at the 2022 Primetime Emmys, and features several amazing performances that are certainly deserving of every award they have won. What really makes Abbot Elementary stand out amongst the rest is its writing, because it is so funny – which is proven even more since Quinta Brunson, one of the stars of the series, also won an Emmy for her writing for the show.

Diff’rent Strokes

“Whatcha’ talkin’ ‘bout, Willis?”

I’m sure at some point in your life you have heard that phrase - Diff’rent Strokes is actually where it’s from! This iconic sitcom series follows a Manhattan family who has plenty of wealth, but when their African-American housekeeper passes away, they decide to adopt her children. 

The series, which ran for eight seasons, was a huge success and had fans tuning in constantly. While it was primarily a comedy, Diff’rent Strokes wasn’t afraid to dive deep into some serious topics with special episodes often centered things like racism, drug use, sexual abuse, and more. The series made Gary Coleman a household name, and is one that surely can’t be missed.

Black-ish (And It’s Spinoffs)

If you want to talk about a very popular recent series, check out black-ish. This show, starring Anthony Anderson and Tracee Ellis Ross, follows an upper-class African-American family through their personal lives and the trials they face as African-Americans - but with more than enough funny situations. 

While I’m definitely okay with shows ending, I’m always going to be sad that black-ish ended with Season 8. There’s just something about this family that makes it feel so homey, from watching the children grow up and move on to their own lives, to learning to deal with the outside world. There are two spin-off series that should be watched, mixed-ish and grown-ish, each having their own stories that overlap with the mother show, but the original is the best in my eyes.

Them 

If you want a horror show featuring Black-led actors, be sure to check out Them. This Amazon Prime original follows a Black family in 1953 as they move from North Carolina to a predominantly white neighborhood in Los Angeles. But as time goes on, the dark secrets of their new home start to reveal themselves, both from behind closed doors and from their mysterious neighbors. 

Whatever you think this series is going to be about, subvert those expectations, because I can assure you, you are going to be shocked at the twists and turns that occur. The Them cast is astoundingly great and the set design is also really well-done. It’s certainly one of the best horror shows on Amazon, and one you should check out.

The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air

“In West Philadelphia, born and raised.”

You know the rest of the song. The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air follows Will, a kid from Philadelphia who gets into a fight, and his mama got scared, so she sent him off to Bel-Air to live with his uncle so he could get straightened out. Of course, Will causes hijinks wherever he goes. 

Man, I grew up on this show. I still remember getting up at the ass-crack of dawn before school so I could see reruns before I’d have to run to the bus, because I loved watching Will Smith, Alfonso Ribeiro and everyone else rock their roles in this show. From the jokes and relationships, to even Will's character development over six seasons, it was stellar. With the dramatic reimagining, Bel-Air, on Peacock, which is getting a Season 2, now is the best time to re-watch the original to get a sense for these characters.

Atlanta  

Now, this is a great one. Atlanta, created by and starring Donald Glover, features the story of Earn, a young Black man who is trying to pave his own path in life through helping out his cousin, Alfred, in the music business, all while trying to maintain his personal life in the city of Atlanta. 

Atlanta is a brilliant dramedy, and honestly one of FX’s best shows. Its take on comedy is subtle but hilarious, and it has some truly amazing episodes that challenge how you view the world, and what people go through. The series is ending after Season 4, which has premiered, so be sure to check it out. It’s certainly one of the best Black-led TV shows on right now.

Lovecraft Country

In this HBO original, Lovecraft Country is based on the novel of the same name, and takes place in a town that is inhabited by creatures that were famously in the novels of famous sci-fi horror writer, H.P. Lovecraft. Enter Atticus Freeman, a young Black man who is traveling across the United States in the 1950s in search of his father, and this in turn leads him to face said monsters and have to find a way out of these horrors alive. 

I am never going to forgive HBO for canceling this show after one season. They could give me all the House of the Dragons seasons I want or make me excited even more for The Last of Us series coming out in 2023, but it was an atrocity that this beautiful show was canceled. It had a stellar cast, and some freaking amazing visual effects that made the monsters look real and terrifying. It should have at least gotten a Season 2. I’m going to remain bitter about it for the rest of my days – you have to check this out.

Living Single 

Another classic Black-led sitcom, Living Single, takes place in Brooklyn, New York, and follows the lives of male and female roommates as they grow through their careers, goals, and most importantly, relationships, creating craziness along the way. 

Living Single aired for five seasons, where viewers enjoyed the comedic adventures of the characters. Queen Latifah starred in Living Single, and it really set her career off, showing just how funny she is. Also, the opening theme for this show is a bop and a half. Just pump that into my veins for some instant serotonin.

Family Matters 

“Did I do that?” is the classic phrase uttered by Steve Urkel, a famous character from Family Matters. This hit sitcom ran from 1989-1998, and follows the Winslows, a pretty normal family that often gets dragged into crazy adventures, usually at the hand of Urkel himself, their next-door neighbor. 

While I would spend mornings watching The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, I’d spend the evenings watching Family Matters, and to be honest, I love this show just as much. While I do love the family, there’s just something about Urkel that speaks volumes to me. He’s a smart kid with crazy inventions, but at the end of the day, even if he can be a little bit annoying, all he wants is friendship and companionship, and he evolves over time. It also helps that he’s freaking hilarious.

Sister, Sister

You want to talk about a classic 1990s show, this is for sure one of them. Sister, Sister stars real-life twins, Tia and Tamera Mowry. For years, neither of them knew the other existed, until they are suddenly reunited in their teenage years, and try to make up for lost time. 

While Sister, Sister was also before my time, I gave the show a try because I love the Mowry sisters in the Twitches series on Disney Channel. Once I watched it, I understood why these two became such big stars. Their chemistry is unbeatable and there’s always something you have to love about sisters learning to live with each other and grow as humans.

The Underground Railroad

Next up, we have the Amazon original series, The Underground Railroad. In this brilliant story based on the real-life Underground Railroad, this show asks, “what if the Underground Railroad was an actual railroad instead of just a series of safe houses, routes and helpful humans?” This is what happens when our main character, Cora, decides to hop on this train that is supposed to free her from the chains of slavery. 

While this isn’t a long-running series and is a miniseries, this show is just outstanding. While it tells a compelling fantasy story about a fictional railroad, it also pays tribute to all the struggles that slaves had to go through back then just to obtain their freedom, and does it in a brilliant way. Thuso Mbedu, who was a part of the The Woman King cast in 2022, is amazing in her lead role, and knocks it out of the park.

Watchmen 

Starring Regina King, Watchmen is a brilliant HBO series based on the comic of the same name. The show is set in an alternate universe where white supremacy is even more rampant in America, and now, it’s up to vigilantes and other heroes to somehow stop the crime that is rapidly spreading across Tulsa, Oklahoma. 

While Watchmen doesn’t look like it’ll be getting a Season 2 anytime soon, it’s such a fantastic series. Nominated for several Primetime Emmy Awards, Watchmen deserves every ounce of praise it has gotten, from its story to its character design to its acting, specifically Regina King in the lead role. Every amazing episode is so carefully crafted that you’ll be wanting more.

Key & Peele

If you want an amazing sketch comedy show, check out Key & Peele. This Comedy Central series, starring Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele, follows these two hilarious actors through several different iconic sketches, all of which will surely make you laugh. 

It’s always funny for me to revisit this show, as these two have truly taken off since it premiered. Key has expanded his movie and TV catalogue and Peele has gone on to write and direct some amazing movies and TV shows, with his most recent 2022 release, Nope, receiving critical acclaim. However, I always like to return to this show, because they truly were one of the best comedy pairings out there, and you’ll definitely be holding your side from laughing after watching one episode.

All American 

Next up, we have All American, a popular CW show that just wrapped up its fourth season. In this series, a premiere football player is recruited to play for Beverly Hills high, and he not only has to prove himself on the field, but to everyone who thinks he isn’t worth the effort. 

As someone who loves football and a great fish out of water story, All American has everything you could want, from a serious storyline that dives into high school and societal issues, to thrilling sports sequences that make you feel like you’re watching a real-life football game. The show isn’t for everyone, but I think it’s worth a shot. The fifth season for the show is set to come out in October 2022, so now is the time to watch it.

How To Get Away With Murder

If you want a thriller that will have you putting on your thinking caps, you need to check out How To Get Away With Murder. Starring Viola Davis, this iconic series follows a group of law students, as well as their professor, who end up getting caught up in a murder investigation. But as more secrets are revealed, their lives get turned upside down even more. 

Let me start off by saying that Viola Davis is extraordinary in this role – which makes sense considering she won an Emmy Award for her performance in the show. While she’s only gotten more popular, I love her in this role and wish they had continued on with it, but it was smart to end it after six seasons.

Everybody Hates Chris

Everybody Hates Chris is a sitcom that is based on the life of comedian and actor Chris Rock and his life as a teenager in the 1980s in New York, chronicling how he feels that “everybody” hates him, and trying to survive in his crazy family. 

While the show didn’t run for super long compared to some of the others on this list - it only ran from 2005-2009 - I have a special place in my heart for Everybody Hates Chris, and that’s mainly because of the great acting from Tyler James Williams. While he’s gone on to do other impressive things, I loved him in this show and sitcom is truly where he shines. Now, if a reunion happened, then I’d be a happy camper.

Empire 

Last but not least, we have Empire. This popular drama starring Terrence Howard, Taraji P. Henson, and plenty of other amazing talent, is centered around Empire Entertainment, a fictional music company where the main players are constantly up in arms about who is going to control it, and how one man’s decision is going to change the face of the company forever. 

Empire was a huge success for Fox, receiving plenty of praise for its acting, soundtrack, and amazing story. Running for six seasons and 102 episodes, Empire captured the hearts of the audience and left them wanting more after every episode.

There are many more amazing shows other than these, but hopefully if you’re looking for some brilliant Black-led television shows, you now know where to start. 

When it comes to comedy legends, there are many you can think of right on the spot. People like Robin Williams or Adam Sandler are always on those lists. But with me, my thing has always been the comedy legends of today, the ones that have been up and coming for years and have really established themselves as some of the funniest guys or girls out there. One of those legends for me is Keegan-Michael Key.

From his time on Key and Peele to some of his more recent escapades into musicals and comedic movies, Keegan-Michael Key has done a lot that fans enjoy. Online, there are plenty of options for people who love the comedic actor to stream, from some of his best movies on Netflix to the best movies on Amazon Prime. Here’s what to watch if you love the Key and Peele star.

Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey (Netflix)

First up on our list, let’s take a look at, in my eyes, the perfect Christmas story. Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey tells the story of an amazing toymaker who loses his spark to create when he grows older, and how his granddaughter comes into his life, helping with a magical invention that could change their lives forever.

Let’s start out with the music – oh my God. It’s some of the best music out there. Truly, the lyrics, along with the beats, to these songs will be stuck in your head, even if it’s not Christmas time. Keegan-Michael Key portrays the villain in this, which is honestly a wonderful change of pace from his usual roles in comedies and even has an awesome villain song that you can bop your head to. Even if it’s not Christmas time, this movie is worth the watch.

Toy Story 4 (Disney+)

When the announcement of a fourth Toy Story came out, I was a bit concerned due to the fact that I believed Toy Story 3 was the perfect ending to the Toy Story franchise. However, there was no reason to doubt Toy Story 4, as it was a wonderful add-on to the classic story of toys, where we follow Woody, Buzz, and the gang with their new kid, Bonnie, on a story of belonging and acceptance.

Toy Story 4 also took the chance to introduce some awesome new characters – one of them being Ducky, voiced by Keegan-Michael Key, alongside his buddy, Bunny, voiced by Jordan Peele. You can already see where this is going. These two were amazing in the roles they were given, from their awesome chemistry to their scenes with Buzz - even the schemes that they came up with were some of the funniest parts of the film. Truly an outstanding duo.

Saturday Night Light (Hulu)

Saturday Night Live has had some awesome guests in their more than 45-year run, with some amazing cast members that have come from it, like comedy legend Eddie Murphy, or more recent cast members like Amy Poehler. However, did you know that Keegan-Michael Key has only ever hosted one episode of Saturday Night Live?

With someone who is spectacular in sketch comedy, you’d think Key would get on there more, but even so, with the recent episode he did on the popular primetime sketch show, he rocked the house. From great skits like a parody of The Last Dance to him beating up a puppet with Kenan Thompson, you’ll be holding your side from laughing too hard watching this episode.

The Prom (Netflix)

I’m starting to see a trend now with Keegan-Michael Key – musicals are something he really seems to enjoy doing, and it shows with The Prom. In this Ryan Murphy-directed musical, based on the Broadway musical of the same name, we see two young women fight for justice for the right to go to prom together as a couple, along with some famous friends to help along the way.

As the principal of James Madison High School, Keegan-Michael Key does a fantastic job in his role. From the musical numbers he’s in, like “It’s Not About Me,” to the chemistry he has with his costars such as the impeccable Meryl Streep or Nicole Kidman, he dances his way into stardom. Who would have thought a principal would have this much skill to get down on the dance floor? Well, if it’s Keegan-Michael Key, you better believe it.

Friends From College (Netflix)

But just because Keegan-Michael Key has done some awesome films, that doesn’t mean that he hasn’t been in some really funny TV shows. Friends From College stars Key, alongside costars Fred Savage, Cobie Smulders, and more, telling the story of a close-knit group of friends from Harvard who are all in their 40s and are trying to navigate their lives in NYC – with a side of cheating as well.

The original series on Netflix ran for two seasons, but in those two seasons, we got to see a new part of Keegan-Michael Key that we don’t necessarily get to see that often. Mixed in with his common and hilarious comedic antics, Keegan-Michael Key really gets to show off his talent as a dramatic actor as well, displaying real-world situations accurately, such as the affair that he’s having, and the butterfly effect it has. It’s a great change of pace from his normal roles – and a welcome one at that.

Dolemite Is My Name (Netflix)

If we want to talk about a big switch from his usual roles, look no further than Dolemite Is My Name, an original Netflix film that Keegan-Michael Key had a main role in. In this biographical film, Eddie Murphy stars as Rudy Ray Moore, who is known for playing the character Dolemite in his stand-up routine and blaxploitation films, starting with the titular film, Dolemite, showing the struggles of his life.

Key portrayed Jerry Jones, a screenwriter who is the complete opposite of the craziness of Rudy Ray Moore, creating a wonderful and intriguing contrast. Eddie Murphy and Keegan-Michael Key have stunning chemistry together in the scenes they are in, showing an astonishing connection between both comedy and drama. In terms of film, this is most certainly one of Key’s best to date, and I can only imagine what he’ll do going forward after an awesome movie like this one on his resume.

Rick And Morty (HBO Max)

I can’t go through a Keegan-Michael Key list without mentioning his iconic character in Rick and Morty. The popular adult cartoon shows the adventures of brilliant yet cynical Rick Sanchez and his nerdy grandson Morty, coming across several different aliens and space adventures that put their lives at risk on a daily basis.

In the Season 2 episode, “A Rickle In Time,” Keegan-Michael Key guest-starred as the Fourth Dimensional Being, an alien that was eternal and someone who has to keep the timelines in check – and was completely fed up with Rick and Morty’s sh*t, and decided to lock them up for splitting the timelines. His character was so iconic that he was brought back in Season 4 of the show, nearly four years later.

Key And Peele (Hulu)

It’s the reason you’re here, aren’t you? While Keegan-Michael Key has been around for some time, what really made him pop up on the scene was the sketch show that he and his buddy, Jordan Peele, did from 2012-2015, Key and Peele.

The show ran for five seasons and had some of the best sketches out there. If you for some reason haven’t watched Key and Peele, watch it now. You won’t regret it. While it’s amazing that both of these actors have gone on to do incredible things – Jordan Peele even won an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay for his critically acclaimed film, Get Out – it’s always fun to revisit these two at their roots and laugh my butt off. I will always remember the “Substitute Teacher.” Best skit of my life. I’m already laughing.

Hotel Transylvania 2 (Amazon Rental)

While Hotel Transylvania 2 isn’t available to stream, renting it is a must if you love Keegan-Michael Key. The sequel to the popular animated film, Hotel Transylvania, follows the story of Mavis having a half-vampire, half-human child, and Dracula, along with his buddies, are trying to find out if the young boy has any powers yet – putting him in a lot of danger and plenty of mischievous adventures.

While Keegan-Michael Key did not play Murray the Mummy in the first Hotel Transylvania movie – that was CeeLo Green – Key takes over the role with style, almost adding in a wonderful new comedic aspect to Drac’s gang. Key also continued to play Murray in the third film and will reprise his role in the upcoming fourth and final film, Hotel Transylvania: Transformania, so it’s clear that Key loves the wrapped-up monsters. And honestly, you will too if animated movies are your go-to.

Pitch Perfect 2 (Amazon Rental)

It might be the last on this list, but it’s certainly not the least. Pitch Perfect 2, the sequel to the popular college film, Pitch Perfect, follows the Barden Bellas as they take their a cappella skills worldwide, creating a name for themselves after winning the national championship of a cappella, while also trying to maintain a normal college life.

Beca, the main character of the Pitch Perfect series, has an internship at a recording studio – and her boss is Keegan-Michael Key, who plays Sammy, a rude but very successful music producer. His scenes with Anna Kendrick are some of the best in the movie, especially when he realizes that Beca actually has talent as a record producer. Plus, Sammy’s moments with Dax, another intern, will have you laughing so hard (“Say one more hipster thing, and I’m going to shove you in your vintage bassoon case”).

My personal favorite has always been Jingle Jangle – there’s just something about Keegan-Michael Key all dressed up in that outfit but acting as a villain that makes me snort with laughter every single time. No matter which one of these options is your go-to, you can bet that there’s plenty for you to stream. Now, all we have to do is wait for some of Keegan-Michael Key's next movies.

With the arrival of another new streaming service, Paramount looks to please fans of all ages with Paramount+ and its endless selection of possible dramas, comedies, and multiple other genres to watch. However, sometimes you don’t want the next Game of Thrones or Breaking Bad. Sometimes you just want to sit down with your family and watch a show that you can all enjoy.

Well, that’s where this comes into play because these are going to be some of the best shows where you can do exactly that. From iCarly to Sabrina the Teenage Witch, these are some of the best family-friendly shows that are available to stream on Paramount+ right now that you should check out.

Avatar: The Last Airbender (2005-2008)

Hands down one of my absolute favorite shows ever. Avatar: The Last Airbender might be a cartoon, but it’s so much more than that. The show follows the legend of Aang, who is the last airbender of his colony, on his quest to beat the fire nation and the Firelord, Ozai, when the leader wishes to take over the rest of the surrounding nations.

Avatar: The Last Airbender is the perfect cartoon that everyone will enjoy at any age. Not only is the animation stunning, the characters relatable, and the world-building fantastic, but the story is one of the best on TV (in my opinion). There’s some amazing characterization, awesome friendships, and romances built, and the themes are amazing to any kid. Most certainly worth the time to binge with your kids if you haven’t already. Everyone needs to see this show.

Sabrina The Teenage Witch (1996-2003)

For all the magic lovers out there, Sabrina The Teenage Witch is for you. The classic comedy series shows the story of Sabrina, a teenage witch who is learning to cope with her powers while living in a mortal world and trying to hide them from her mortal friends.

While the most recent remake of the classic character tends to lean a bit more towards the dark side, this fun-loving witch is the complete opposite and fun for the whole family. Kids and adults will find themselves laughing along with the hijinks that Sabrina gets herself into being a young witch. And who can forget about Salem, the awesome talking cat?

Family Ties (1982-1989)

The eighties gave way to plenty of awesome family sitcoms that have become popular over the years and cemented their way into pop culture, but nothing hit quite like Family Ties. This legendary eighties sitcom is all about the ties that bind family, and no matter how you feel about certain issues or how often you may fight, you’re still family no matter what.

This show is perfect for the whole family to watch because not only does it deal with relevant issues that all families face, such as politics, religion, growing up and more, the cast is amazing and I’m sure you will recognize many familiar faces. A young Michael J. Fox stars in one of the main roles, along with Justine Bateman (Jason Bateman’s sister), and guest appearances from big actors like Tom Hanks, Geena Davis, Courtney Cox, and more. It’s such a fun show.

iCarly (2007-2012)

Okay. I am from this generation who practically grew up on iCarly. The famous Nickelodeon show focuses on Carly, Sam, and Freddie, three young teenagers who end up creating a web show and it grows insanely popular.

At first, you may think this is just another kids show that’s meant for tweens, but rewatching it as an adult now, I realize that there are a lot of jokes that still land even now and not just for kids. Sometimes it can be a little zany with the bits they’ve done on the show, but most of the time a lot of the comedic moments are still just as funny as an adult – if not even funnier for how silly some of them are. Also, surprisingly iCarly covers some heavy topics as well, such as emotional abuse, parents in the military, and many more. It’s actually quite a great watch if you’ve never seen it.

Kenan & Kel (1996-2000)

Another Nickelodeon show, but one of the classics for a reason. Kenan & Kel is all about high schoolers Kenan Rockmore and Kel Kimble, who often get into misadventures because of Kenan’s usual “get-rich-quick” schemes that never seem to work because of Kel’s happy-go-lucky nature.

It’s most certainly more kiddish than iCarly, but Kenan & Kel still provides plenty of fun for the whole family to enjoy. And considering the gags and the formula are usually the same in many of their episodes, it’s not hard for younger fans to start following along and understanding what’s happened. Plus, you get to see a young pre-SNL Kenan Thompson rocking the stage.

The Brady Bunch (1969-1974)

Probably one of the most family-friendly shows there is out there, The Brady Bunch is the epitome of what a sitcom is. The Brady Bunch follows the life of the Brady family, who were brought together by two widowed parents who both had three kids – one with three girls with blonde hair, and one with three boys with brown hair.

The premise doesn’t sound like it would be anything interesting, but this was one of the most popular sitcoms of all time. It led to multiple reunion films and spinoff series due to the popularity of the show and the icon of which it became in the TV industry. With plenty of standard themes like sibling rivalry, self-image, puppy love, and more covered in this iconic show, I guarantee everyone in the family will find something to love about this series.

Everybody Hates Chris (2005-2009)

I remember this being one of the first sitcoms I would sit down and watch when I was younger, mainly because it’s a gem hidden among the rest. Everybody Hates Chris tells the story of the young comedian Chris Rock, and the troubles which he would face as a young kid, including the struggles and problems he would face daily.

Personally, I feel like this is the perfect series for a family to watch because everyone can relate to Chris at some point, from his self-doubts to his family issues occasionally to everything else that happened, Everybody Hates Chris turns into “Everybody Loves Chris” because you can’t help but feel bad for the guy in this sitcom. It’s definitely a bit more mature than some of the other sitcoms on here, but still fun for the whole family. I’d say it’s a good watch for when you’re kids are about tween age – that’s when I began viewing it.

I Love Lucy (1951-1957)

Arguably the most classic sitcom of all time, I Love Lucy has integrated itself into pop culture forever. This famous 1950’s sitcom is about Lucy and Ricky Ricardo, an interracial couple and the hijinks of which they run into every day of their marriage, as in love as they are.

I Love Lucy is iconic. In the 1950s, no one ever spoke about an interracial couple – it just wasn’t a thing that happened in movies or TV shows all that often, so they were groundbreaking in that regard. And they covered serious topics that were considered taboo at the time, such as divorce, revealing pregnancy on TV, and many more. I know that feels shocking to hear about but it truly was life-changing, and everyone deserves to watch it at least once. For kids, the humor is easy to keep up with and sometimes even slapstick to a point. For adults, the love that Lucy and Ricky share for each other would be enough for anyone to support.

Spongebob Squarepants (1999-present)

Another show I grew up on, my father can attest to the love he has for this show, mainly because he would watch it with me. Spongebob Squarepants follows the life of the titular sponge, Spongebob, and the daily activities and problems that this mischievous little sea critter always seems to get himself into.

Okay, so later seasons of the show do tend to lean a bit more on the “kiddish” side, but the earlier seasons of Spongebob Squarepants have some of the best episodes and specials, ones that both kids and parents will enjoy. Kids can laugh along to the craziness that is Spongebob and his friends, while parents can find joy in Spongebob’s optimistic attitude, Squidward’s approach to life, and many of the other parallel that can be found with each character. What makes it even better is that there’s no cohesive storyline, so you don’t need to watch episode after episode – just pick one and you’re good to go.

Kamp Koral: Spongebob’s Under Years (2021-present)

And now we move onto the next Spongebob Squarepants item here. Kamp Koral: Spongebob’s Under Years features everyone’s favorite characters from the official show, but now aged down, where they all attend a summer camp.

Alright, ignore the logistics and plot holes of this (pretty sure Sandy only came down below the sea when Spongebob was older but okay), and this is really cute. As one of Paramount+’s first original shows, it’s the perfect show to watch with your little tyke. Not only does it have a good amount of the same humor you would expect from Spongebob Squarepants, but the design of the younger characters is so adorable. The CGI animation is actually great too, unexpectedly, which makes this little show stand out even more. Give it a try, I promise it will be worth it.

Nathan For You (2013-2017)

I feel like so many people have never heard of Nathan For You and that is a crime. This popular Comedy Central show stars Nathan Fielder, playing an off-kilter version of himself where he goes from business to business, trying to come up with ideas to help their struggling companies that are just absolutely ridiculous and outlandish in every way.

Nathan For You is the perfect series to watch with children when they’re grown up, because not only are some of the jokes fantastic adult humor, but it’s jokes that everyone in the family can get. And some of these businesses actually end up gaining traction out of these ridiculous ideas – like a “poop-flavored” yogurt that brings in money. I know, it sounds crazy, but trust me, it’s worth the time to watch, and hilarious too.

Key & Peele (2012-2015)

As my last entry on this list, Key & Peele fun in the best kind of family way. This show stars Keegan Michael-Key and Jordan Peele, who create ridiculous and hilarious skits that will have you holding your side for hours after laughing.

Honestly, I love watching these two work together. While this show isn’t necessarily “family-friendly,” as some of the humor is definitely more catered to older people, teenagers would get a kick out of some of the jokes. This is where these two famous actors really got their start and became the popular megabrands that they are now, with Jordan Peele’s movies like Get Out and Keegan’s acting roles. But if you want to learn where they came from and laugh a whole lot, check out Key & Peele.

The way Peele’s character speaks, moves, and the atmospheric music puts this character right up there with the top horror movie villains, like Pennywise and Freddy Krueger. There is also a twist ending that suggests the cock blocker is actually Key’s inner self working to keep him faithful to his wife. The style choice of the skit makes sense because you never know when a cock blocker will strike.

Two male friends (Key and Peele) and their female partners (Danielle Nicolet and Mekia Cox) are playing a game that seems a lot like Taboo. Key is giving the clues and Peele is the guesser. The two men start off really strong guessing right with very little clues. Then Key reads the clue, “pretends to be straight but really gay,” and Peele’s character says “me.”

The rest of the game is just awkward looks and tension as the answer is Ricky Martin, but Peele’s character just outed himself. He continues to further insist the clue talks about him as everyone in the room becomes increasingly uncomfortable. It was an elaborate hoax to get Key’s team a red card and steal the victory.

The entire “Fútbol Flop” skit only happens in slow motion, and the only commentary or lines come from the sports announcer. Peele uses his knack for physical comedy to dramatize a man magically injured and dying. This skit is made even more funny by Peele’s fake ascent to Heaven, only to reject it to make the winning goal.

Modern Family’s Ty Burrell guest stars in this clip. It opens with American soldiers being murdered by German soldiers during World War II. It may seem like a hard challenge to narrow down the funniest sketches to just 10 (and, believe me, it was) but that is what I have done. These are my picks for the funniest Key & Peele sketches ever.

10. Text Message Confusion (Season 4, Episode 3)

In one of the few times in Key & Peele in which the duo portray themselves, this maddeningly relevant sketch begins with Keegan-Michael Key struggling to reach a too-stoned-to-realize Jordan Peele over SMS to meet at a bar. When Peele sends him a text back, Key immediately misinterprets his reply.

Keegan-Michael Key’s text messages and attitude grows increasingly hostile, believing that Jordan Peele’s messages are meant to convey the same tone, while Peele’s texts are actually intended to be sincere as he assumes that is Key’s intention as well. Key escalates from bitter mania to apocalyptic dungeon warrior, rushing into the bar ready to take Peele down, until he realizes that by “First round’s mine,” Peele was actually referring to drinks.

One of my favorite things about the “Text Message Confusion” sketch is Keegan-Michael Key’s gift for uproarious, high-energy on full display, but the key (no pun intended) to this Key & Peele classic is how relatable the situation is, given how easily people misinterpret text messages. Of course, in the duo’s signature fashion, it ends by throwing authenticity out the window with Jordan Peele making a bizarrely obscure historical reference.

9. Little Homie (Season 4, Episode 2)

I always had a feeling that Jordan Peele would make a great horror filmmaker even before the release of his 2017 Academy Award-winning thriller Get Out. What gave it away was how in any Key & Peele sketch that would incorporate elements of horror, it kept up with its serious tone until the punchline came, just like in this surprisingly unnerving sketch.

Former convict Clive “Double Down” Ruggins (Keegan-Michael Key) thinks he is going in for a normal first visit with his parole officer, Daniel Tate (Jordan Peele), until he discovers that Tate still uses a conversational method from his days working for the juvenile corrections system: a puppet named Little Homie. Clive finds the idea of speaking to a puppet utterly ridiculous, until his conversation with Little Homie takes a dark turn.

As I said before, Little Homie quickly turns into a surprisingly unnerving experience as it plays out, and the punchline, as easy as it may be to predict in retrospect, is executed brilliantly. You can always rely on Key & Peele for both laughs and thrills and this is my favorite example of both.

8. Marbles (Season 5, Episode 9)

Sometimes it is simply perplexing and even maddening to consider how Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele come up with some of their sketches. The concept behind this Key & Peele sketch from the show’s final season could be the most unique and brilliantly obscure of them all.

It is the first day on the job for Arizona’s assistant state’s attorney (Keegan Michael-Key). During a conversation with the state’s attorney Winslow Thachet, (Jordan Peele) Key finds himself utterly distracted by the jar of marbles that sit at Thachet’s desk, a fascination that grows increasingly problematic.

From the first time you hear Keegan Michael-Key inquire Jordan Peele’s character about the marbles, you’re already laughing, but you would never guess how truly bananas, and even horrifying, the situation becomes, and Key’s commitment to the insanity seals the deal. It is moments like these that have me marveling at Key & Peele’s unbelievable creativity.

7. I Said Bitch (Season 1, Episode 1)

Fresh out the box, Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele proved they had something special in store for their self-titled sketch show. In one of the first-ever Key & Peele sketches, they set the tone perfectly.

Daryl (Keegan-Michael Key) tries to explain to Craig (Jordan Peele) how it was his wife’s fault they were late to his home for an afternoon meet-up, which leads them to trade one-sided stories of arguments they have had with their wives. As their conversation continues, they grow more and more wary of their wives’ eavesdropping, moving the conversation to further and further locale.

Key & Peele never holds back with relationship humor, while managing to keep it light with hilarious high-concept pieces like this one. It is highly quotable, too, if you can find a safe place.

6. Valets (Various)

You know those recurring sketches on Saturday Night Live that start off pretty good until they repeat the formula over and over again and eventually lose all steam completely? I cannot say the same about any recurring sketches in Key & Peele.

Case in point, these pop-culture obsessed valets for a fancy hotel played by Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele. As they wait for their next guest to park for, they swap over-enthusiastic analyses of their favorite movies and television shows, reciting Games in Thrones almost in its entirety, inquiring why Gotham’s criminals even bother messing with “The Batmans,” praising the filmographies of Die Hard’s “Bruce Willy” and Taken’s “Liam Neesons,” and even popping up in the 17th century to criticize Shakespeare’s Othello.

Why the valets express their love for these pop culture icons in such misconstrued and exuberant ways, and how they always seem to use pluralization incorrectly, I do not know. What I am certain of is that these classic Key & Peele characters (who inspired a Toy Story 4 teaser trailer with Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele’s Ducky and Bunny) are aggressively entertaining and always go out with a bang… literally.

5. Black Ice (Season 3, Episode 10)

Few shows comment on social issues, such as race, with wit as razor-sharp as Key & Peele. I think Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele’s finest example of racial satire is “Black Ice.”

A Minnesota weatherman (Keegan-Michael Key) and a field reporter (Jordan Peele) take offense to their white news anchors’ off-putting description (and pronunciation) of the hazardous driving condition that commonly occurs in winter known as “black ice.” Key and Peele combat this indictment of “black ice” by speaking out against “oppressive white snow” and the many unfair criticisms that “black ice” often falls victim too.

This is the kind of social satire that the likes of Jonathan Swift or George Orwell would bow down to, cleverly sneaking in analogies to racial discrimination disguised as a discussion of weather conditions until the white anchors’ hilariously blunt reveal of their true opinions the end. “Black Ice” is the kind of Key & Peele sketch you can go back to over and over again, and it never gets old.

4. Substitute Teacher (Various)

In a post-Key & Peele era, it must be difficult being named “Aaron.” I can only imagine how often the Aaron’s of the world hear “You done messed up, A-A-Ron” on a daily basis, but how could one resist?

When we first met no-nonsense inner-city substitute Mr. Garvey, played by Keegan-Michael Key, he seemed to have difficulty adjusting to a classroom full of middle class white students, as shown in his inability to correctly pronounce anyone’s name. The best part is when he reprimands each student for testing his authority, refusing to accept that their names are real, with the only one smart enough to play along being “Tim-O-Thee” (Jordan Peele).

Mr. Garvey would return in later Key & Peele episodes, becoming one of the show’s most famous characters and even inspiring a spinoff film, which has only been announced so far. The character’s essential quotability has even slipped into a few unrelated sketches, but more on that later.

3. Prepared for Terries (Season 5, Episode 1)

There are some things that you cannot even begin to explain why you find them funny, but, shamelessly, you just do. I have struggled for a long time with my ability to explain my love for Key & Peele’s “Prepared for Terries” sketch, but I'll try to verbalize as best as I can.

In one of the most puzzling and outrageous sketches Key & Peele has ever conceived, Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele play two men on an airplane with bizarre haircuts and facial hair sculpting. They incessantly harass a passenger sitting next to them (guest star Malcolm Barrett) with assurance that if they see some “terries trying to get froggy,” they plan to “fireboard those motherjammers,” among other puzzling terms with that grow increasingly frightening as the context becomes clearer.

From Key and Peele’s insanely ridiculous haircuts and facial hair to their mind-numbing vocabulary, this is one of the weirdest things I have ever seen, and I do not mean that exclusively to the sketches of Key & Peele. Few pieces of visual media have confused and disconcerted me as much as this, yet I cannot stop watching it and I laugh harder every time.

2. East/West College Bowl (Season 2, Episode 2)

Jordan Peele was amazed to learn that there is an offensive lineman for the New York Jets named D'Brickashaw Ferguson, to which Keegan-Michael Key assured him that was the tip of the iceberg when it came to the “unique” names of various football players. Thus, his bewilderment (and some “medical” assistance) inspired this timeless Key & Peele sketch.

The sketch is framed as an introduction to the athletes participating in an upcoming collegiate football game. The players (all played by Keegan-Michael Key or Jordan Peele) introduce themselves one-by-one, each one having a name more ridiculous than the last.

The incredibly irreverent names partnered with Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele’s rotating appearances and priceless delivery for each character makes for a gutbusting three and one half minutes that you could watch for hours. Fortunately, this was only the first of three sketches with the same concept, the last of which starred actual football players.

1. Luther, Obama’s Anger Translator (Various)

Former President Barack Obama was always known for his calm disposition during press conferences and interviews, almost as if he was holding back some deep seated aggression. Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele found a solution to that.

In the first episode of Key & Peele, we met Luther (Keegan-Michael Key), the anger translator for President Obama (Jordan Peele). Luter interprets Obama’s calm delivery into vicious rants complemented with a furious energy that sends him parading up and down the Oval Office.

Showcasing Keegan-Michael Key’s gift for physical comedy and Jordan Peele’s spot-on impersonation of Barack Obama, this recurring sketch is the duo at their best. In fact, the character of Luther was so popular that Obama himself actually invited Key to portray him at the 2015 White House Correspondent Dinner.

Yesterday was a big day with the release of the first trailer for Toy Story 4 and all of YouTube exploded with reactions to the film, the new character and Forky, and whatever else came to mind. However, the best trailer reaction may have come in a new video that introduces a pair of new characters to the film itself. Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele will be in the new movie as the new characters Ducky and Bunny, and the comedy duo introduces themselves by bringing one of their classic comedy sketches to life in animated form. Check it out.

The clip opens with a pair of kewpie dolls at a carnival in mid-conversation. Then Bunny, in a sort of fourth wall breaking moment, brings up the fact that yesterday saw the release of the new Toy Story 4 trailer, at which point Ducky goes a little nuts. The pair starts to talk about how much they love the Toy Story franchise. They quote lines back and forth at each other. They get Buzz Lightyear's catchphrase wrong over and over. Eventually Buzz and Woody show up to correct them, and Ducky and Bunny laugh at the mere idea of going "beyond infinity."

Yesterday the first teaser trailer introduced us to our first new character, Forky, a craft project with an identity disorder, who has become a toy, but seems to believe that he wasn't ever supposed to actually be one. As a spork wrapped in pipe cleaners he may be on to something. This morning we get two more new characters, and they are hilarious.

Key and Peele made their name as a comedy duo and seeing them together again performing in much the same way, via their new animated characters, is hilarious. If you're a fan of Toy Story, adding Key and Peele is a great move. If you're a fan of Key and Peele, this trailer is extra special.

This is is the Pixar version of a pair of characters that Key and Peele played on their Comedy Central sketch show multiple times. They were valets who spent their downtime talking about all the movies and TV shows they loved and getting incredibly animated about it. If you somehow have made it through life not having seen these sketches, check out a few in the video below.

One wonders if, in addition to introducing the characters, we're also being introduced to a set. This carnival could play a part in the movie, especially if that's how Ducky and Bunny become part of the story. Also, Pixar fans should check out the available prizes in the background, as among them you'll see a guitar shaped like the one from Coco, and rocket ships with Luxo Ball stickers on them.

Between the addition of Tony Hale as the voice of Forky, and now Key and Peele, Toy Story 4 is putting together a remarkable voice cast that's only in addition to the great cast the film already had. Many have wondered why we're getting a Toy Story 4 in the first place. Honestly, Key and Peele is a pretty good reason in my opinion.

With blockbuster movies like Logan and Kong: Skull Island hitting the screens, smaller movies are beginning to be forgotten. However, Get Out continues to be successful and it just made history. Get Out just crossed the $100 million mark at the box office, a feat which Jordan Peele is the first African-American writer/director to have achieved with his debut film.

Get Out has been so strongly praised that it currently sits on Rotten Tomatoes with a single negative review. Not only has the film been popular with critics but fans as well have flocked to see the film over the last three weeks. While Get Out's opening weekend of $33 million wasn't on par with larger movies, the film simply hasn't seen the significant week to week drop off that other movies see. While Logan opened bigger, it saw a drop of over 50% in its second weekend. For comparison, Get Out only saw a 15% drop in week two. The numbers have been much more consistent for Get Out over the last three weeks, making getting to the $100 million mark almost look easy.

As The Wrap points out, horror movies usually see the vast majority of their business in the opening weekend; therefore, Get Out's staying power has been unusual for its genre. This also led to a second box office record. Get Out has become the fastest movie to reach $100 million for production company Blumhouse, it was able to hit the mark in 16 days, three days faster than Split which was released earlier this year. Who'd have thought Blumhouse would be the company to beat in early 2017?

The topic now inevitably turns to what's next for Jordan Peele. The man made his name in the world of sketch comedy with his partner Keegan-Michael Key but now he's one of the most successful film directors in Hollywood. Get Out's performance is the sort of thing that gets noticed and gets you job offers. Will he be handed a major horror franchise or a studio tentpole movie? It wouldn't be surprising to hear something big come up as Peele's next directorial effort.

All is not said and done for Get Out at the box office either. The film was number three in North America behind the two major releases Kong: Sull Island and Logan and even with another big movie, Beauty and the Beast, ready to come out, Get Out will probably still put up another decent number this weekend. The film also has yet to see any release overseas and while it's unlikely that Get Out will be a huge international movie, its subject matter is uniquely American, anything it does at this point is just gravy. Get Out had a $4 million budget which means that it may also end up being one of the most profitable movies of the entire year.

Sketch comedies are well-known for providing seemingly endless streaks of hilarious quotes and catchphrases to work into everyday conversations, from "Sock it to me" to "I live in a van down by the river!" And during its five seasons on Comedy Central, Key & Peele was indeed a phenomenal source for random nonsense to holler out to friends, even giving fans a final farewell from Obama's Anger Translator last month. One half of the brilliant duo, Jordan Peele, has revealed which of the show's lines are the best and worst for people to yell out to him in public.

Thinking back over the annals of quotables that Key & Peele delivered over the years, it's hard to imagine Jordan Peele answering that Reddit AMA question with two better examples for both extremes. The whole point of the "I Said Bitch" sketch has both Jordan Peele and Keegan-Michael Key's characters talking about difficulties with their significant others while being extremely wary of being overheard while referring to them by the B-words. So every time the word "bitch" is spoken, it gets increasingly softer and more drawn out, which is the perfect kind of understated reference to approach a celebrity with in public. It's not only nice for them, but it makes fans not look like giant jackasses.

Meegan, on the other hand, is not something that anyone should attain to imitate, in public or in private, or whatever outer space counts as. (Andre would probably say, "It's like, super private, but then like seriously public, too. Meegan, what did you just do to the mailman?!") Even as the actor who got dolled up to portray the confrontational Meegan on a regular basis, Jordan Peele can never really prepare himself in life for random folks wandering past him inside a convenience store to suddenly bark out "No!" in his face.

Not the most fun thing, but it could be worse, such as if they run into the real life Quackadilly Blip or Ladadadaladadadadada Dala-Dadaladaladalada, neither of whom thought Key and Peele's choice of names in the College Bowl sketches were funny. That's not real.

Sadly, Key & Peele only exists in rerun form now, but you can catch Jordan Peele's feature directorial debut, the horror flick Get Out, when it hits theaters on February 24. As well, you can head to our midseason premiere schedule to see everything hitting the small screen in the near future.

Summer has come to a close, which means that many of you younger readers will soon find yourselves headed back to that dreaded place: school. Whether you're still a kid, or an adult looking back, I think we can all agree that few experiences can compare to the moment of walking into a new classroom to get a feel for the type of teacher one has to endure for an entire year. In the eyes of a kid, it's a truly tense experience. And TV characters have to go through this experience as well.

We've compiled a list of the 7 worst schoolteachers in the history of television. Some made this list for being wholly unqualified, others for being totally unhinged, and some have a terrifying mixture of both. Check out our entries and be grateful that you don't have to sit in any of these classes this year. Now let's get started with one of the most deadly schoolteachers to show up on the small screen...

Walter White - Breaking Bad

Make no mistake, Brian Cranston's Walter White never even really wanted to become a teacher; he had to when he sold his shares in Gray Matter Technologies prematurely and missed out on billions of dollars. Throughout Breaking Bad's run, he constantly exuded a feeling of bitterness and pessimism towards his chosen profession, and never seemed to enjoy education as much as he enjoyed science itself. Sure, he may have taught Aaron Paul's Jesse Pinkman some great chemistry lessons during their relationship, but by the end of the series Mr. Pinkman probably would've been better off remaining a stoned slacker/small-time meth dealer that we met in the pilot. We give him an F in the teaching category, but an A+ in meth class.

Mr. Garrison - South Park

Herbert Garrison (a.k.a Janet Garrison for a few seasons) is arguably one of the worst people in a town full of already terrible human beings. A sexual deviant with serious personal issues, South Park's Mr. Garrison really has no business standing in front of a classroom full of children, as he seldom ever does any real educating. Many of his lessons involve the bizarre incorporation of pointless pop culture references -- he once showed Barnaby Jones to his class of third graders for eight days straight -- and he's prone to outbursts of anger and swearing at the children he teaches. Perhaps the most notably disturbing aspect of his teaching style is that he carries a badge and gun with him to class, despite the fact that neither of those items are actually issued by the school district.

Chuck Noblet - Strangers with Candy

Although most people know Stephen Colbert for his late-night antics and biting political commentary, he has also delved into the world of scripted television with phenomenal results. His most famous role outside of late night came on the classic Comedy Central series, Strangers with Candy, in which he played the endlessly unstable teacher Chuck Noblet. Essentially an unhinged sociopath, Noblet would take every opportunity to publicly shame his students, experience emotional, violent outburst, and generally preach false information -- he assigns bible passages for science class. One of his best (read: worst) moments? Stealing a disabled student's wheelchair and racing through the hallways of Flatpoint High.

Mr. Testaverde - Saved By The Bell

We all had at least one hard teacher during our childhoods, but few will ever match the sheer difficulty of Bayside High's George Testaverde. An overbearingly difficult history teacher, Saved by the Bell's "Terrible Testaverde" gave incredibly difficult assignments, and conducted lectures at the speed of an auctioneer -- to the point where Jessie Spano's notes almost caught on fire as she tried to keep up. Such realism! In a school that constantly pitted the faculty against the students, Terrible Testaverde represented one of the worst examples of an adult who just didn't understand the student body. At least Zack Morris had the good sense to tune his lectures out and listen to music instead.

Mrs. Krabappel - The Simpsons

Edna Krabappel remained a constant fixture at Springfield Elementary until the tragic passing of voice actress Marcia Wallace in 2013, at which point The Simpsons retired the character in touching fashion. But the students might be learning more now, since the alcoholic, chain-smoking fourth grade teacher didn't do very much to inspire her students during Mrs. K's career. Though she initially arrive in Springfield as a wide-eyed optimist, the act of teaching slowly wore her down to the point where she cared very little about the actual academic success of her students. By the end of her time on the iconic FOX series, Mrs. Krabappel was far more concerned with finding love and personal fulfillment than shaping the minds of Springfield's youth. RIP, Mrs. K. We'll miss you, but we're glad we didn't have you for over two decades.

Mr. Garvey - Key & Peele

Say what you will about the other teachers present on this list; at least they can all make it through attendance without incident. _Key & Peele's _Mr. Garvey has clearly seen some rough times in his 20 years as a substitute teacher in the inner city, and he's not afraid to roll up his sleeves and get tough on his students whenever necessary. Mr. Garvey became instantly iconic as one of the Comedy Central series' best characters during a short sketch in which he simply couldn't properly pronounce any of his students' names -- even reacting violently when they tried to correct him. It's one of the show's funniest sequences, but it's also a reminder that Garvey may have chosen the wrong profession.

Coach McGuirk - Home Movies

Coach McGuirk from Home Movies isn't a bad guy; he's just terminally unlucky, and not very well educated. Clearly not the brightest member of the faculty, everybody's favorite animated gym teacher tries his best to preach solid lessons to his students -- particularly Brendon Small -- but he's so misguided, and so ill-informed that most of his lessons have a habit of backfiring. His best lectures: anything hard in life isn't worth doing, cheating and studying are basically the same thing, and orange juice pairs well with breakfast cereal instead of milk. We could listen to Coach McGuirk talk for hours (because after all, it's H. Jon Benjamin) but we would never, ever want to enroll in one of his classes.

Comedy duo Key and Peele are about to hit the big screen with their first feature film after wrapping up their successful Comedy Central sketch comedy show. Now, they dusted off one of their more popular sketches to help promote their new movie Keanu and bring attention to cats in need of adoption. Take a moment and meet the Real Treehouse Cats of Chicago.

If you were a fan of Key & Peele then you’ll remember one of their recurring sketches was the East-West College Bowl Game. As part of it, Keegan Michael Key and Jordan Peele would take turns introducing themselves as college football players. Each would have completely bizarre names, and also hairdos. Here, they’re doing the same thing with cats looking for adoption. I have to admit there are some adorable cats here. Our favorites include Tuna Catersol and Quakin' Face Ammonia Bottom. It’s probably a good thing I don’t live in Chicago or Fluffytail Whiskerface would probably be surprising my wife when she came home.

Tomorrow will see the release of Keanu, in which Key and Peele play cousins who end up getting mixed up with LA drug dealers as a result of going in search of their missing cat. It’s the first theatrical release for the comedy pair, though it appears it will be the first of many. I got to check out Keanu last night and those who are fans of the pair’s sketch comedy will likely enjoy the film. There are even a couple of references to some of their sketches for those paying attention. If, for some reason, you’re not familiar with Key and Peele’s comedy, which means there is something terribly wrong with you, here’s what the East/West sketches looked like.

Early reviews for Keanu are looking solid, significantly better than anything else coming out this weekend. Will the little kitten be the one to topple The Jungle Book from the top of the box office? If cuteness was all that was necessary, we're sure Keanu would get it done.

When you name your movie Keanu you’re setting a certain level of expectation. While the movie with that title is not about the star of The Matrix, but rather a pet cat that has been named for him, we fully expect that Keanu will be full of jokes about the man whose film career is as unique as his name. But what does Keanu Reeves think of the movie appropriating his name? He’s apparently ok with it, as he’ll be appearing in the film in some capacity.

You knew at some point somebody was going to ask Keanu Reeves what he thought about Keanu, the new film by the brilliant comedy duo of Key and Peele. IGN got to ask the question, but the answer was even more surprising than we thought it would be. Reeves admitted that he actually contributed to the movie himself.

It’s the most obvious cameo in the world, of course. The name Keanu is a unique one that pretty much reminds the entire world of just this one man. Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele knew this when they decided they would name their pet cat, who is the lynchpin of their film, after the John Wick actor.

Of course, now the question is, how does Keanu Reeves fit into the film? He’s only providing voiceover, which narrows down the options significantly. The obvious choice is that he’ll actually be voicing his namesake cat in one way or another. While the trailer hasn’t given us any impression that the kitten will "speak" we could see Keanu (the kitten) narrating the film with possibly a bit of opening and closing voiceover. If the cat has a voice, there’s no question that he sounds like Keanu Reeves, right?

Keanu follows two friends who go on a quest to rescue their missing cat who ends up being taken in by gangsters after a break-in. It’s the feature film debut for the comedy duo Key and Peele who recently wrapped up their Comedy Central sketch comedy show. A work-in-progress version of the film was shown over the weekend at SXSW and based on our report the movie is looking hilarious.

How would you like to see Keanu Reeves voice get worked into Keanu?

Look away Keanu Reeves, because it’s pretty clear that Key & Peele have taken aim at your neo-noir action thriller John Wick from 2014 with their cinematic debut, even naming the titular pet after the actor. Thankfully, despite being a bizarre homage, Keanu looks like it’s going to stand on its own two feet rather impressively, because its first trailer is downright hilarious. Quick little warning, it also features some words that a few of you might find offensive. Like, a lot of them:

Anyone who has caught just one sketch from Key & Peele’s fabulous television series will know that the duo have been bringing the funny for quite some time now. Their transition to the big-screen, which coincides with them ending Key & Peele after five seasons in September, starts here, and the above suggests that they haven’t missed a beat.

Basically, Keanu sees Jordan Peele struggling to get over the demise of a relationship. But all of that changes when he meets Keanu, a stray cat that serendipitously ends up at his door. Even that relationship is doomed to failure though, because Keanu is soon stolen, and, with Keegan-Michael Key in tow, the duo soon set out to find the missing kitty.

That’s where the problems soon start, because they are then thrown into the seedy underbelly in their pursuit of Keanu, and they come into contact with Will Forte’s gangster, as well as Method Man’s much more impressive gangster, which immediately leads to comedic hijinks. 

The trailer for Keanu makes sure to place Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele front and center, with the BFFs completely lost at sea in this criminal environment as they go on the hunt for their kitty cat, Keanu. Plus, the feline actor cast to play Keanu looks as though he more than earns his treats, because not since the trailer for Inside Llewyn Davis have I been instantly smitten with a cat. 

Director Peter Atencio, who previously worked on the Key & Peele television program, took to Twitter soon after the trailer had uploaded to show how infatuated he still is with the cat. In fact, according to the latest poster, the cat has clearly replaced Key & Peele as the main selling point of Keanu. Sorry, guys.

Keanu will finally hit cinemas on April 29.

How would Neil deGrasse Tyson, one of the most respected and prolific scientific geniuses of the modern era, resolve a minor conflict with a nagging wife? According to a brand new Key and Peele sketch, exactly how you would expect the brilliant scientist to.

The sketch which premiered on Comedy Central's Key and Peele, was also released on the the show's Facebook account. It depicts Neil deGrasse Tyson (portrayed by Peele) lazily lying in bed reading a science magazine when his wife comes in and begins to complain that he isn’t ready to leave the house for a funeral yet. Slowly and deliberately, Tyson rises from the bed and begins to address the audience, explaining the scope of the universe, the time it takes light to cross it, and the inconceivably limited amount of time human beings have inhabited the cosmos. He declares to his dumbfounded wife – complete with handy computer generated visual aids – that based on this scale of time and space that he has provided, it makes no difference if he gets ready to go or not. Defeated, she acquiesces and leaves without him. As she departs, he merely looks to the camera and deadpans “goodbye honey,” in hilarious – yet somewhat sociopathic – fashion.

It’s almost unnerving how well Jordan Peele impersonates the famous scientist; from the moustache, to the general cadence of his voice, the comedian nails Tyson down perfectly. The entire sketch plays out like a segment from the wildly popular Seth MacFarlane produced reboot of Cosmos, of which Tyson is the host. In less than two minutes, Key and Peele perfectly captures the highly scientific, yet easily digestible, lecturing style of Tyson that has endeared him to the public at large. It’s funny, but also easy to imagine a man such as Tyson taking advantage of the fact that he is likely the smartest man in any given room that he happens to find himself in.

Over the last few years, Tyson has become something of a pop culture icon in his own right. He regularly makes television appearances to promote and discuss the latest breakthroughs in science – as well as certify the scientific authenticity of Hollywood films such as Gravity and Interstellar. He has become so iconic that he has even begun playing fictional versions of himself, such as in the trailer for the upcoming Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, and the viral marketing campaign for Ridley Scott’s upcoming adaptation of Andy Weir’s novel, The Martian.

Nerd culture has grown in popularity at an exponential rate over the last few years, and with that growth, Tyson has become one of the world’s leading figures in promoting rational, scientific thought. Perhaps he should take Jordan Peele’s impression as a compliment, as it means he has become a big enough celebrity that mainstream audiences can appreciate a spot on impersonation of his mannerisms.

The Oscars are welcoming new blood into the producing chairs of next year’s show. David Hill and Reginald Hudlin have been announced as the producers in charge of the 88th Academy Awards, and they’ve already gone on record stating that they want a duo to host the show next year. Now while this is hardly breaking ground, there’s one duo they already claim to have in mind for the job, and four more that we think would be perfect for the job. Picture any one of the following five duos as the hosts on Oscar Night 2016, and try not to agree.

Keegan Michael Key & Jordan Peele

In a perfect world, the duo that David Hill and Reginald Hudlin have already pegged for possibly hosting duties would be Keegan Michael Key and Jordan Peele. If they manage to land this pair, they’ve pretty much sewn up Oscar night for the younger demographic - or anyone who loves to laugh. With Key and Peele hosting the Oscars, you’ve got two hosts who work like well-oiled machinery - both in the writing room and on the stage. They know the edge of comedy, and they aren’t afraid to play around with material from both sides. But edgy can make producers nervous. Still, it’s the perfect time to book the pair as their show is ending soon, because the iron is hot.

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler

Admit it… you knew this was coming. The moment Tina Fey and Amy Poehler’s hosting gig with the Golden Globes was over, the Oscar-night talk heated up faster than a Hot Pocket on the surface of the sun. Fey and Poehler’s awards show schtick is a network friendly, meme-creating possibility that could boost viewership to heights the networks haven’t been seen in years. Much like Key and Peele, Fey and Poehler have experience working together as writers and presenters, and they’ve got years of Golden Globes experience to back it up. While we’re on the subject of former Golden Globes hosts, another possibility comes to mind.

Ricky Gervais and Louis CK

The other name people have been throwing about for the Oscars gig is, of course, Ricky Gervais. His acerbic wit, mixed with his risk-taking attitude, could bring the edge of Seth MacFarlane’s infamous night back into the picture, but with a flare that audiences have come to accept on much better terms. With good friend, and fellow snark master, Louis CK in the mix alongside him, a Gervais / CK pairing could usher in an era of laughter and comedic riffs that'd replace extravagant musical numbers. You can sign us up if this pairing ends up becoming a reality, but there’s another twosome that tops even these two jokesters.

Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert

Right off the bat, Jon Stewart has points in his column as an Oscar host because not only does he have more time on his hands to take the gig, he’s hosted the show twice before and did it extremely well. With Stewart’s grounded, reality-driven patter in the driver’s seat, this gives Stephen Colbert the perfect opportunity to jump into the passenger’s side and take full control of the nutty part of the night. There could be costume changes, sniper-precision one liners, and Colbert's set of pipes, which would elevate any musical number. These two showmen would brighten the proceedings infinitely. Still, all of these options might not be "safe" enough for first time producers to keep their jobs - which means it’s time to call in the experts.

Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin

With three hosting gigs under his belt, and two of them being solo flights, Steve Martin has the most Oscar experience of anyone on this list. That’s not by accident, as he can keep his jokes sharp and short, knows how to work the audience into the act without drawing out the show, and commands a great amount of respect from the artistic community. Bringing back Alec Baldwin, his previous Oscar co-host and faux "arch nemesis," to help steer the ship is merely icing on the cake - as the two compliment each other’s sense of one-upmanship without distracting from the night’s events. If you want a safe, yet amusing option for two Oscar hosts, hire these guys. Though let’s be honest, if you’re hiring these guys, you should at least consider bringing Tina Fey and Amy Poehler in for a couple gags - so the Internet can officially love the Oscars to death.

The 88th Annual Academy Awards will take place on February 28, 2016. We wish the producers and their prospective hosts all the luck in the world, seeing as that’s what really counts on Oscar night.

The list of beloved TV shows that have left us far too soon is practically endless. Networks wind up cancelling most of these because of a lack of ratings, excessive budgets, or overall shortsightedness. Very few have the opportunity to go out on top, either in terms of popularity or quality, but there is a new one joining those ranks. Comedy Central’s Key and Peele will end after this season.

After starting in 2012, the sketch comedy series Key and Peele, the brainchild of Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele, kicked off its fifth season earlier this month. Talking to The Wrap, star and co-creator Key said that this season will also be the last. He said:

While this certainly sucks for fans of the show, one of the most consistently funny sketch comedy shows on TV, both Key and Peele have been getting increasingly busy outside of its confines. They’ve both been popping up with greater frequency in movies and TV, and choosing to exit now lets them go out on their own terms. And they do so with an assortment of critical recognition. They won a Peabody Award, and have been nominated for a number of Emmys, including a series best seven this year.

All of the remaining episodes of Key and Peele are reportedly finished and in the can. They will continue to air on Comedy Central throughout the summer and ultimately wrap up this September. It will be sad to see the show go, but the duo, who worked together for six seasons on MadTV, aren’t done as partners.

As Key said, they’ll continue to team up from time to time, and we’ll see some of these before too awful long. They have a caper comedy called Keanu in the works where they play best friends who get in over their heads when they infiltrate the gang of a vicious drug kingpin, played by Method Man, in order to retrieve a stolen kitty cat. In addition to that, they have also been working on a reboot of Police Academy for quite some time, and Key even said they even have another series that they might do for Comedy Central. There has also been talk of their Substitute Teacher sketch getting the feature film treatment.

So, don’t worry. Key and Peele might be done in a few months, but Key and Peele aren’t going anywhere.

President Obama brought the funny at the White House Correspondent Dinner, thanks to his Anger Translator. That’s right, the Key and Peele character, Luther, made an appearance at the prestigious event to assist President Obama with his speech, and it was hilarious. Take a look.

In the C-SPAN video, taken from last night’s White House Correspondent Dinner, President Obama invited his Anger Translator to lend a hand with his closing speech. The audience immediately erupted into laughter and applause in anticipation of what the hysterical Luther was going to say and/or do. It was the perfect solution to the even the President’s tensions between himself and the press, humor.

Before he uttered his first words, Luther met the audience with a striking glare, seemingly repressing some anger from the onset. Then the Key and Peele character started his bit with the opener “hold on to your lily white butts,” and the crowd ate up every word. The President, however, maintained a stoic look on his face so as not to give away the fact that he too was probably enjoying that moment as well; maybe even more so than everyone else, but he couldn’t let that on of course.

Within minutes, Luther began to angrily translate Obama’s speech. The Key and Peele character led his hysterical rant with his first concern—or was it the President’s?—which was why he was forced to attend the White House Correspondent Dinner in the first place. He then hilariously posed the question: “do we really want to do this?” The audience laughed, perhaps in agreement before the President continued to justify the dinner by acknowledging “the importance of the press in a shedding light on the most important issues of today.” To which the Angry Translator followed up with personal attacks on both Fox News and CNN. The address to Fox News was more direct with: “and we can count on Fox News to terrify old white people with some nonsense,” while the address to CNN was more broad, attacking their coverage on Ebola cases for inciting increased fear of a Walking Dead-like apocalypse. Many in the audience laughed, while President Obama remained stoic. But, the President and Luther were just getting started.

By the end of the speech, the President had covered topics like Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign and global warming before going off on his own rant, to which the Key and Peele character had to step in to calm down him down. The role reversal was arguably the funniest moment from the entire speech. Even Orange is the New Black star Laverne Cox is caught on camera standing up to show her support for the President after his funny moment, which also prompted Luther’s swift exit.

There are major spoilers here in this Key & Peele sketch, for Game of Thrones viewers who may not be caught up through the end of Season 4. That said, they’re absolutely the most hilarious spoilers you’ll ever see, and are a tad more on the nose than the Sesame Street parody from the other day.

If watching the plentiful deaths on Game of Thrones was ever too gory or shocking for you, there should be some kind of app on TVs or HBO Go that allows the offending scene to be replaced with a reenactment by the Valets. Just think of how much more comfortable Ned Stark’s death would have been had Sean Bean’s decapitation been replaced by this.

It’s not even just about the many deaths – Killt! Killt! Killt! Killt! – but the way that these guys view the deaths and these characters, from “Khal ‘Big Dave Navarros’ Drogos” to “Khaleesis” to “Tywon Lannisters.” If I felt that I could pull it off for the rest of my life, I’d get a huge back tattoo of “The Dinkles is my jam, my jelly, my peanut butter and my peanuts.” The Dinkles is everybody’s shit, fo sho.

I wish I could have been there when they discussed how to end the sketch. No choking to death on wine. No getting their eyes gouged out. Just a nice quick jump through the Moon Door that opens up in the middle of the sidewalk in front of the restaurant. Logical AND classy.

The Valets are two of my favorite Key & Peele characters, hands down. They personify everything that goes through my head when I get excited about something, but I don’t really have anyone to squeal over things with anymore. Still, I don’t even think I get this excited about Game of Thrones. Or Liam Neesons. Speaking of, check out their Non-Stop-infused sketch from last year.

Key & Peele, which last popped up for a Super Bowl Special on Comedy Central, will presumably be making its way back to comedy fans for a super-sized Season 5 this summer. Season 5 of Game of Thrones, meanwhile, will premiere on HBO on Sunday, April 12.

Last night’s Academy Award ceremony was a whirlwind of glitz and glamour, where host Neil Patrick Harris sang, danced and stripped to his tighty whities, all for the sake of entertainment. And while movie fans will now spend most of the next year wondering which of 2015’s releases will be shooting for top honors at next year’s Oscars, we in TV world are more curious about what celebrity (or celebrities) will get the hosting gig.

Assuming the Academy and ABC haven’t already put their resources together to lock up Ellen DeGeneres again, here are ten choices for hosts that we think would keep the super-long telecast fresh and enjoyable. And though it was hard to not just list “James Franco and Anne Hathaway” ten times as a joke, those two won’t be popping up here.

Eddie Murphy

Proof to the contrary be damned, I will never fully accept that current day Eddie Murphy can’t stand toe to toe with heyday Eddie Murphy. Sure, his SNL 40 appearance was too subdued, and his Oscar presentation last night was even milder, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t still have it in him to work an audience. Maybe this year he’ll start that “reggae and comedy” tour idea that he’s been kicking around, and he’ll regain the confidence that turned him into a red leather-wearing comedy superstar. Also, let's not have Brett Ratner's awfulness ruin it this time.

Stephen Colbert

For years, Stephen Colbert put himself on display as a satirically conservative blowhard, turning The Colbert Report into must-see television. But he’s left that behind to take over for David Letterman on CBS’ Late Show starting in September, which gives him months of practice at winning over general audiences before the next Oscar telecast. Like former host Jon Stewart, I think Colbert would bring the right amount of edge and intelligence to the awards show. And hey, maybe Stewart’s next feature will be out by then, too.

The New Ghostbusters Cast

Minds were blown when Paul Feig took over the upcoming Ghostbusters re-whatever and cast a quartet of comediennes in the title roles – Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones. Considering the film won’t open until next summer, what better way to advertise it, while also giving audiences a group of hilarious women as headliners, than to bring back the group-hosting of years past. Three-fourths are SNL vets used to doing live TV, and McCarthy did a fantastic job when she hosted that show. Four heads are definitely better than one in this case.

Key & Peele

Rarely do comedy pairs work as fantastically well as Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele have, and their Comedy Central sketch series is consistently one of the funniest shows on TV. I like to think they would get fully invested in the Oscar writers’ room in prepping their material, so that the show would come across as theirs, rather than them just serving as mouthpieces-for-hire. Even if they just listed all of the celebs “East vs. West” style for the opening titles, I would be sated.

Jimmy Fallon

As far as Late Night Jimmys are concerned, ABC would likely choose their own Jimmy Kimmel over Tonight Show host Jimmy Fallon, but the latter would likely put together a more vibrant and viral video-worthy experience. There’s also a good chance that ABC wouldn’t have to actually get any other presenters or musicians for the show, since Fallon could just impersonate every celeb out there. If either Neil Young or Willow Smith gets attached to a prestigious film this year, look out!

Kevin Hart

Even though we’re probably years away from Kevin Hart headlining an Oscar-worthy movie, that doesn’t mean he isn’t a supreme choice to host the show. The guy has oodles of charisma to spare, and his stand-up comedy career gives him all the stage cred he needs. We’ve pretty much seen him everywhere else in the last two years anyway, and it doesn’t look like Hart Mania is going away any time soon. I’m betting his presence would also boost the lagging ratings that this year’s telecast earned.

Patton Oswalt

Few celebrities are as astute and hilarious when talking about pop culture than Patton Oswalt, whose keen insight has given us everything from Star Wars manifestos to massively entertaining Twitter rants. I imagine his opening monologue would be instantly memorable, and that he would win over the nerdier sector of Oscar audiences that tune in just to see superhero movies get passed over time and again. Plus, he’s proven himself a worthy host for last year’s Independent Spirit Awards, as well as other lower profile award ceremonies.

Amy Schumer

Remember when Seth MacFarlane hosted the Oscars and drew complaints for his raunchy material? Let’s turn the tables by giving the foul-minded stand-up comic Amy Schumer a shot at hosting. Unlike MacFarlane, Schumer’s comedy addresses gender issues without the meatheadedness, and I can imagine she’d deliver some too-wild-for-ABC zingers about Hollywood’s elite. She’ll be hosting the MTV Movie Awards later this year, which doesn’t really serve as a good litmus test, given that show’s free-flowing structure. But if she kills it, then the jewel-encrusted Oscar stage’s sky is the limit.

Jeff Garlin

If ABC wants a stellar host AND some good network synergy, then they should look no further than The Goldbergs star Jeff Garlin, who would bring both hilarity and gravitas to a stage that doesn’t get it very often. Though he probably wouldn’t do any high-energy musical numbers or underwear gags, Garlin doesn’t need anything but his booming voice and his comedy to win over the room. His podcast By the Way, In Conversation with Jeff Garlin proves that easily. And if it meant a surprise visit from Curb Your Enthusiasm co-star Larry David for an extremely uncomfortable Oscar moment, so be it.

Anna Kendrick’s Twitter Feed

We’re living in the Modern Age now, and it’s one in which personal detachment and technological buffoonery go hand in hand. As such, it makes perfect sense that ABC would line up actress and social media starlet Anna Kendrick to host the Oscars from her hugely popular Twitter account, perhaps with a projection screen popping up on stage between awards and performances. Or maybe a robot version of Kendrick with a giant TV screen for a face. On second thought, maybe this is more of a Golden Globes move.

Honorable Mentions: Aziz Ansari, Prince, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, John Oliver

Every year, the Super Bowl is generally the most-watched TV program, as everyone wants to get a look at the NFL’s two best teams duking it out amidst a bunch of expensive commercials. But for everyone who just wants to laugh, Comedy Central is giving Key & Peele its own Super Bowl special, and it’s going to be amazing. Check out the first promo below.

Somebody get Dante Pibb some turnovers, dammit! The video has the pair as commentators Pibb and Bertram Skilling giving their picks for who they think will win the Super Bowl, being played by the Seattle Seahawks and the New England Patriots. It’s strange how funny it is to watch Key and Peele acting like football analysts – doing things like ending opinionated sentences with “and let me tell you why.” – even though that’s precisely the kind of things I hate to see analysts do unironically. But never have I seen one talk about an Æbleskiver, so I guess it’s all good. Turnovers, turnovers, turnovers, turnovers.

There isn’t a single bit of subject matter that Jordan Peele and Keegan Michael Key can’t turn into a guffaw-worthy experience, and the duo getting their own football special is a comedy dream. Do I need to remind everyone about the East vs. West college football sketches? (Comedy Central claimed in their press release that there might be a Super Bowl version of those, so cross your fingers.) The special is set to feature not only new sketches from the hilarious duo, but also appearances from several to-be-announced NFL stars. Comedy Central, who entered a deal with the NFL for some cross-promotion, also recently announced that Craig Robinson & the Nasty Delicious will be serving as the halftime entertainment for the Key & Peele Super Bowl Special, as sponsored by Pepsi. The Hot Tub Time Machine 2 actor and his band will perform presumably one song during the special, though Robinson’s dreams of heading to the Super Bowl halftime show are part of the subject matter behind a series of YouTube videos leading up to the show. Seriously, imagine being told your aerobics partner staged an accident to hurt your family, and you found out while you and he were in full Flash & Lightning mode?!

The clip even goes the extra mile by starting out looking like something we popped into the VCR, spent twenty minutes rewinding and then watched in all its grainy glory. VHS tape quality was never that great. Factor in the numerous times you might use the same tape to record things and imagine just how crappy the video starts to look. With that in mind, watching the above sketch, I wouldn't have hated if part of an old episode of The Young and the Restless had started playing after the clip ended, but that's just my own personal memory of the 80s filtering into this situation.

Here's the really funny part about all of this. As if the sight of Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele doing what appears to be a pretty advanced synchronized aerobics routine while wearing leotards weren't funny enough. This video -- sans the stuff about the car accident -- is barely an exaggeration of the 1980s aerobics craze. Don't believe us? Key & Peele airs Wednesday night on Comedy Central.

Sketch comedy is an art, and Comedy Central’s Key and Peele is at the top of its game. This week, the sketch comedy series created a mockery of Stan Lee, who pops up at the Marvel Comics headquarters to pitch his latest ideas. The characters may be new, but I wouldn’t exactly call them updated. You can check out the funny sketch, below.

While early on the Marvel team seems pretty stoked to have Stan Lee, the media mogul who has written, edited, published, marketed and been a big face of the Marvel franchise for quite some time, drop in, their happiness is short-lived. Soon, Lee begins pitching his new ideas for superheroes and villains, and they all seem to have traits from a bygone era or personalities that would appeal more to the senior citizen crowd than today’s youngsters.

How about Road Rage, a man who uses a radioactive horn, terrifying the poor innocents (see the elderly) who drive slowly on the freeway?

What about this hero, a man who is perpetually stuck in 1982, reliving his glory days?

Or Techno, a superhero that is great with computers and actually crushes it with any technological device?

It’s actually pretty discomfiting to sit through all of the old people stereotypes, but button-pushing comedy is often what Jordan Peele and Keegan-Michael Key do best. Earlier this season, the two comedians signed on Ty Burrell for a sketch that poked fun at Nazis, Adolf Hitler and death during WWII. The two men have even taken a hilarious but uncomfortable angle on the otherwise family-friendly sitcom Family Matters.

And really, the direction of this Stan Lee sketch is pretty spot-on. Everyone loves Stan Lee. He wrote and conceived so many of the beloved heroes we still celebrate and look up to today. But almost all of those contributions were decades ago. Now, he’s more of a loveable mascot who isn’t contributing as many new ideas as he is relentless hyping the brand. Maybe that’s because he’s basically retired and doesn’t have anything else to add. Or maybe, hilariously, it’s because he’s pitching Marvel executives like there’s no tomorrow and they’re quietly shooting him down like in this sketch.

Regardless, Stan Lee deserves every ounce of remaining publicity he gets because we all love Spider-Man, Thor, The Hulk, the X-Men, Iron Man and the Fantastic Four.

Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele have made a name for themselves on Comedy Central, taking on topical, historical and pop-culture oriented sketches that have resonated with fans. Recently, they put together a sketch harkening back to the days of Family Matters, when Steve Urkel became a cultural phenomenon. You can check out the Key and Peele sketch below, without having to worry about a laugh track. You do need to worry about foul language in the video, as a slew of f-bombs are present and we don’t suggest giving this a watch while you are still at work.

The sketch takes a look at a disgruntled Reginald VelJohnson, who pops up in the office of a Family Matters studio executive to complain about the Urkel takeover on the hit series, which was initially written as and expected to be a family-based sitcom starring the Winslows. The sketch then becomes a take on Urkel’s ridiculous inventions, which later tormented Carl Winslow onscreen, and according to this sketch, VelJohnson offscreen.

There are mentions of teleporting, transformation machines, and an episode where Carl is turned into a “giant sandwich” and Urkel accidentally eats him. All of these ridiculous sitcom premises are juxtaposed with VelJohnson’s giant rant about how the “Urkel takeover” is ruining what is supposed to be a family series. This eventually leads into a screaming fight where the executive calls VelJohnson a “pawn in that nerd’s game.”

However, my personal favorite moment is when VelJohnson mocks Family Matters by comparing the famous nineties series to Quantum Leap.

Key and Peele recently premiered its fourth season on Comedy Central, and has shown no signs of slowing down in terms of quality. Earlier this month, Modern Family’s Ty Burrell popped up for a ridiculous “Awesome Hitler Story” sketch during which Key fakes his death as an American soldier while a German Peele tries to interrupt his superior to tell him Key is faking it. As you can see, Key and Peele covers a wide breadth of topics.

Vulture got the scoop on the Urkel video, noting it is a sketch that is set to pop up on next week’s episode, which will hit the schedule on Wednesday, October 15 at 10:30 p.m. ET. Additionally, if you have the right cable provider, you can watch next week’s episode online right now.

Comedians Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele have been winning critical praise and fan devotion with their satirical sketch comedy show Key & Peele. Now they've set their sites on Hollywood with a slate of film projects, including a Police Academy reboot. But with their skills of seamlessly taking on a wide array of roles, why are these two insanely funny men saying they may not appear in the reboot of the crime comedy? They fear they may pull focus.

Speaking to EW while serving as guest editors, Key and Peele were up front about their aims for Police Academy. Jordan Peele explained:

Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele were first tied to the project in April, when New Line Cinema asked the droll duo to produce Police Academy's reboot. At the time the script was being penned by The Break-Up's Jeremy Garelick. However, Key and Peele told EW that they've since put Ike Barinholtz and Dave Stassen--who Peele describes as "brilliant, funny men"--on revisions. It's suggested that roles that would suit Key & Peele's stars are in the script, but for now we'll have to wait to see if they'll take them.

We already know Key could play a solid update/parody of Michael Winslow's sound effect spewing Larvell Jones. All thanks to the "Kings of Mouth Noise" sketch!

But Police Academy isn't the only iron Key and Peele have in the fire. Last November, Judd Apatow saw the potential of this pair and offered to produce a vehicle for them with Universal Pictures. No details were released on the pitch of that project, but apparently that one is already dead. "We’re starting at step one again with that," Keegan-Michael Key admits. "There was an idea with Judd, [but] we’re not doing that idea anymore. Now we’re going to start from ground zero and start all over again."

With the wild cast of characters they've unleashed on Key & Peele, it's anyone's guess what the movie might be about. But since then a breakout character on the series has earned his own development deal. Key told EW that two writers have been tasked with drafting a script for his substitute teacher character, Mr. Garvey, who chronically mispronounces students' names and distrusts every last one of them. (I'm looking at you A-Aron!)

But that's not the least of their ambitions. Peele also admitted he's hoping to direct a straight-up horror movie for Darko Entertainment, pulling inspiration from such domestic thrillers as Rosemary's Baby and The Stepford Wives. Of course, Key & Peele have tackled horror too…

There's just no end to their talents.

In a world where Saturday Night Live just isn't what it used to be, it's nice to know that Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele, or Key And Peele for short, are around to generate laughs. Naturally, when a pair like these two become popular, Hollywood will come knocking for some of that fresh comic talent, and so far this partnership has put into play a future Judd Apatow film and a Police Academy reboot that the pair may or may not star in. Much like SNL though, one of their sketches looks like it's about to jump to the big screen.

While discussing the Police Academy project with Entertainment Weekly, Key mentioned that their latest foray into the world of the movies just might focus on Mr. Garvey, everyone's favorite substitute teacher/professional hardass.

Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele are both talented comedians, and their staff of writers only further enrich their talents for satire and plain goofy humor. To see these two at the top of their game, untethered by network restraints and allowed to roam free in an R-rated environment would be terrifically funny. The only problem is, much like Saturday Night Live before them, this has the potential to turn into a monster no one ever expected. If you're doubting this could happen, all you need to do remember what has happened in the past when short bits get adapted into feature films.

Adapting a single sketch from a hit comedy show into a full length motion picture can go either way, and seen with extreme cases during the 1990s at Paramount. While Wayne's World cemented its iconic status as an SNL sketch movie above all other SNL sketch movies, the same couldn't be said for Superstar, Coneheads, A Night At The Roxbury, and The Ladies Man. (The less we say about Stuart Saves His Family and It's Pat: The Movie, the better). As history has shown us, just because it worked for five minutes on television, doesn't mean it needs an hour and a half is going to make it any more interesting. However, if there was anyone that could pull off such a feat, you could do a lot worse than Key And Peele.

Key And Peele: Season Four is currently airing on Comedy Central. Cross your fingers that if "Substitute Teacher" does well enough, we'll see The Adventures Of Luther And Barack in theaters shortly after that.

Today, Comedy Central announced new premieres are coming for a lot of its well-liked programs, and many of our favorite Comedy Central shows are coming sooner than audiences might guess. New seasons of South Park, Tosh.O and Key & Peele and many more are hitting homes soon. Some of the shows will pop up in the schedule in just a few weeks and some will be headed in to homes this fall, as part of a more traditional schedule.

Here’s what Comedy Central has lined up in the coming months:

Tosh.O - Premieres Tuesday, August 26 at 10 p.m. ET.

Adam Devine’s House Party - Season 2 premieres Tuesday, September 9 at 10:30 p.m. ET. Will move to its regular Thursday timeslot on September 11 at 12:30 a.m. ET.

Brickleberry - Season 3 premieres Tuesday, September 16 at 10:30 p.m. ET.

South Park - Season 18 premieres Wednesday, September 24 at 10 p.m. ET. Just like last season, Comedy Central has ordered 10 episodes.

Key & Peele - Season 4 premieres on Wednesday, September 24 at 10:30 p.m. ET. Guest stars this season include Paget Brewster, Ty Burrell, Anna Camp, Julia Duffy, Clint Howard, Ernie Hudson, Rashida Jones, Rominy Malko, Lance Moore, Seth Morris, Kumail Nanjiani, Chelsea Peretti, Lance Reddick, Retta, Jason Ritter, Richard Schiff and Malcolm-Jamal Warner.

Gabriel Iglesias Presents Stand-Up Revolution - Season 3 premieres on Friday, October 3 at 12 a.m. ET.

Comedy Central is one of the few networks that caters to adults who like to stay up late and probably aren’t on the 9-5 p.m. work grind. The network has great offerings starting at 10 p.m. at night and extending sometimes well past midnight. In a lot of ways, Comedy Central is a lot like Adult Swim, but unlike Swim, I’m glad the cable network doesn’t limit itself to animated programming, instead offering laughs via some animation, some live action, some sketch comedy, some talk programming and some stand-up. There’s a lot of variety in humor, and Comedy Central doesn’t shy away from any branch.

We’ll have to wait until September for a lot of the network’s biggest programs to hit the schedule. South Park and Key & Peele are both coming off pretty big seasons at the network, with the former putting together a memorable Game of Thrones-esque episode and the latter gaining more traction in the ratings spurred by good word-of-mouth. (Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele’s hilarious appearance on FX’s hit series Fargo also may have helped). It’s always tough for the smaller networks to premiere shows during the same time period as the big networks, but that’s likely why Comedy Central is only betting on its Wednesday lineup at the end of September.

Comedy Central hasn’t really started advertising the network’s upcoming seasons, but keep your eyes peeled in the coming weeks for a look at the brand new episodes. In the meantime, here’s a look at 8 new shows the network has coming up.

For seven episodes now, FX’s Fargo has been a hallmark of quirky comedic drama, with enough pitch black thrills and kills to legitimately rival the Coen brothers’ film for simpleton storytelling. Tonight’s episode “Who Shaves the Barber?” took things to their natural escalatory extremes, and delivered in two ways that I am impulsively considering the series’ best bits so far. They’re hard to summarize, as one is a character arc while the other is a proper scene, so move your pop and let's get to it.

Aw geez, I guess I should warn anyone who hasn’t seen the episode that there are spoilers down below.

Key, Peele and a Visually Fantastic Twist on Mass Murder

I know I’m not the only person out there who has been going mad in anticipation for comedians Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele to guest star, and they finally appeared tonight as Webb Pepper (Peele) and Bill Budge (Key), a pair of soft-spoken and bumbling FBI agents. The duo are sitting in a car not-quite-arguing about food quality when Lorne Malvo walks past them, donning an automatic weapon and heading into the office building that they’re supposed to be watching. Malvo is on a mission to kill the man who sent Mr. Wrench and Mr. Numbers to kill him.

Director Scott Winant – who directed “Crawl Space,” my favorite Breaking Bad episode – chooses not to follow Malvo into the building, instead tracking his deadly and bullet-ridden trek along the exterior, from window to window, office to office, up stairwells and elevators, until Malvo reaches his goal. It’s an exquisite step back from the in-your-face violence this show is quick to bring out, and, along with a series of action movie exclamations, adds some levity to the horrific screams of everyone in Malvo’s way. Of course, viewers do get to relish in some unlucky sod crashing through one of the windows and falling to the ground below, but the single take itself is mostly bloodless. That’s almost necessary for the episode to immediately drift back to the clueless Pepper and Budge, whose next big challenge is not talking over each other when introducing themselves to the local police.

This scene may have felt over-the-top for viewers, perhaps seeing the comedians only as stunt casting, but those are probably the people who can’t grasp the irony behind putting a “This is a True Story” tag in front of something so truly absurd. I fully welcome bizarre tonal shifts like this, so long as they serve the story; and if two low intensity cops going after Malvo doesn’t serve Fargo’s story, then what have I been watching for all these weeks? It was a great introduction to these characters and proved once again that Malvo just don’t give a fu-u-u-ck.

Lester Hits His Moral Rock Bottom

Don’t get me wrong, I’m fully aware that Lester Nygaard reached a brackish depth in the very first episode, when he foolishly and half-heartedly tasked Malvo with murdering his bully, before later killing his wife. But that just put old Lester in a completely different cesspool of morality, and we’ve been watching him clumsily swim backwards through it until this point. Backed into a corner, though, Lester fully snaps and becomes nearly as monstrous as Malvo himself, albeit with less corpses to show for it.

We saw where Lester’s dark path was headed in last week’s episode as he escaped from the hospital and broke into his snide-nosed brother Chaz’s house. Tonight opened with Chaz’s son unwittingly heading to school with a pistol in his backpack – a scene that I feared would get too harrowing too soon – but it was all a ploy to get Chief Bill Oswalt and his deputies into Chaz’s house, where they found pictures of Kitty Nygaard – “boudoir pictures” – and a pair of her underwear. Taking advantage of Bill's empathy, Lester just sat back and bullshat his way through their conversation; soon after, he walked through the police station, ignoring the gutteral screams of his imprisoned brother. And by God, Lester had a legitimate smile on his face.

That was just the opening scene! Later, Lester anxiously accepts the work duty of alerting the widower Gina Hess that her husband Sam’s life insurance policy had lapsed, only to lie to her and bang her doggystyle while staring at a cheesy photograph of her and Sam, climaxing as he fantasized about his last encounter with his lifelong bully. He’s almost fully psychotic now, which some may argue is happening too quickly, but we haven’t seen the last of Lester’s depravity. In any case, he reached an apex for his go-to sin of lying, and it made for some gleefully cackle-worthy TV viewing.

Let’s all hope for similarly memorable sequences in next week’s “The Heap,” which airs on Tuesday, June 3.

Since its earliest days, television has always looked to stand-up comedians to deliver the medium's biggest laughs. That has only slightly changed in recent years, as comics Jay Leno and Craig Ferguson were both driving forces in this millennium’s late night crowd, and the most popular sitcom in modern history is arguably Seinfeld, which along with It’s Garry Shandling’s Show broke the mold on conventional sitcom presentation.

Tonight brings us FX's long-awaited fourth season premiere of mega-popular comic Louis C.K.’s acclaimed series Louie, and Thursday night is host to the second season premiere of IFC’s Maron, from comedian/podcast superstar Marc Maron, and the third season premiere of Comedy Bang! Bang!, a surreal talk show in which Earwolf founder Scott Aukerman and music maestro Reggie Watts largely ignore their guests in the name of silliness. All three shows are distinct, but they share a self-aware faux reality in which the comics play heightened versions of themselves. In that respect, here are 20 more comedians (in no particular order) that we think are ready for self-skewing primetime, and the kind of shows we want to see them in. (Note that we tried to avoid people who have already headlined their own series, or those with series currently in development.)

Aziz Ansari

Where You Know Him Outside of Stand-Up: Parks and Recreation, Human Giant

The Premise: With a stand-up act that plays into pop culture and celebrities, Aziz Ansari's career is ripe for a creative implosion, resulting in a series focused on Ansari coping with the end of Parks and Rec's televised run. He slowly realizes he’s turning into his Parks character Tom Haverford in real life, which leads to serious money problems, a complete mental breakdown, and an abundance of trendy colognes.

Tig Notaro

Where You Know Her Outside of Stand-Up: the Professor Blastoff podcast and The Sarah Silverman Program

The Premise: Just as her career was taking off in 2012, Notaro suffered a series of health issues, including breast cancer, which she documented in the pinnacle of stand-up sets, Live, released on Louis C.K.’s website. Like C.K., Notaro could use her deft blend of emotional drama and absurdist comedy to tell a fictional version of this most tumultuous period in her life, with presumably memorable results.

Kyle Kinane

Where You Know Him Outside of Stand-Up: Drunk History and multiple podcasts.

The Premise: Given Kyle Kinane’s material often includes stories of drunken debauchery, his series could follow him as the host of a faux reality travel series, visiting different places in the world known for their alcohol. TV rarely gets to the brass tacks of extreme sloshedness, and there’s no one better equipped to pull off being shitfaced-for-comedy than Kinane. Except maybe Dave Attell, who could easily co-star.

Hannibal Buress

Where You Know Him Outside of Stand-Up: 30 Rock, The Eric Andre Show, Broad City

The Premise: Hannibal Buress’ act employs a signature blend of stoner swag and wit-filled brevity, which makes him the perfect choice to create the next awesome “bro” comedy, in which he and his comedian friends just hang out on their off nights, playing video games and flicking pickle juice onto sandwiches. And if the festivities sometimes included improvised rap battles, that’d make it all the better.

Amy Schumer

Where You Know Her Outside of Stand-Up: Inside Amy Schumer, Comedy Central Roasts

The Premise: Sure, Amy Schumer already has a series on the air, but it has only served to prove how adept she is at chiseling comedy out of the differences between women and men without overtly saying at the beginning of every sketch, “This is the difference between women and men.” A series focused solely on the group of self-shaming women would work wonderfully in long form, but any version of Schumer’s dark take on girl power would be a fine season of television, even if it was just the comedian digitally inserted into twenty-minute installments of Erin Brokovich.

Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele

Where You Know Them Outside of Stand-Up: Wanderlust, Mad TV, Key & Peele

The Premise: Like Schumer, Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele have gone from merely funny to erudite masters of topic-focused humor, though they play the race card more than the gender one, but always with hilarious results. The best way to utilize their unique comedic stylings is to set them in a show where they are the only black people left on Earth after some unexplainable phenomenon. I’m sure they’d have much to say about the changed state of crime, the music industry and a government without a black president.

Patton Oswalt

Where You Know Him Outside of Stand-Up: King of Queens, Big Fan, his epic Parks and Rec filibuster

The Premise: One of the few comedians who could pull this off, Patton Oswalt deserves a series specifically devoted to his Twitter account, which could offer big boosts in social media cross-promotions. Watch Patton as he discusses Star Wars with his friends while tweeting about Episode VII, or take a trip with him as he jumps up the wazoo of some unsuspecting major American chain store or restaurant with a series of poignantly dismissive hashtags, all while namechecking everything cool in pop culture.

Kulap Vilaysack

Where You Know Her Outside of Stand-Up: the Who Charted? podcast, Childrens Hospital

The Premise:The wife of Comedy Bang! Bang!’s Scott Aukerman, Kulap Vilaysack actually has a legitimately intriguing life story that could perfectly be served up as comically dramatic storytelling. Who Charted? fans know the American-born multi-cultural comic is currently in the production stages of a documentary centered on her travels to Laos to meet her birth father and his family for the first time. A sitcom going behind the scenes of this documentary could be an emotion-tugging experience like nothing else on TV right now, and Vilaysack is definitely hilarious and earnest enough to sit center stage.

James Adomian

Where You Know Him Outside of Stand-Up: Conan, The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson

The Premise: James Adomian is about as close to an impersonation expert as one can get, so it’s easy to envision a series where the comedian has encounters with celebrities and politicians, as played by Adomian himself. Honestly, it could just be a series of conversations between the comic’s spot-on versions of George W. Bush and Jesse Ventura, and I don’t think anyone would complain. America needs a proper contemporary for Australia’s Chris Lilley, and James Adomian is it.

Chelsea Peretti

Where You Know Her Outside of Stand-Up: Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Kroll Show

The Premise: Standing opposite all the darkness that haunts stand-up's corners is Chelsea Peretti’s genial positivity, which follows her from the stage to Twitter and back. It’d be admirable enough even if she wasn’t constantly amusing, and her presence on television could be just the bright spot that audiences need at the end of a long day. Is the show just her putting sunglasses on dogs? Cleaning out her closet? Choosing fruit in a grocery store? Peretti will make it interesting.

Doug Stanhope

Where You Know Him Outside of Stand-Up: That one Louie episode

The Premise: Doug Stanhope is one of the most outspoken comics on the planet, turning booze-and-smoke-filled rooms into churches of frank honesty and no holds barred depravity. Much of his material takes an antagonistic stance towards religion, government and human behavior, so a series where Stanhope tries to run for mayor of a small town could work a lot of his favorite topics into a narrative with progress at its center. That said, Stanhope may never dumb himself down for television, so someone else would probably have to step in and impersonate him. Adomian?

Megan Ganz

Where You Know Her Outside of Stand-Up: writer for The Onion, Modern Family, Community

The Premise: Sure, we’ve seen both ends of the "writing a sketch comedy series" spectrum with the cartoonish 30 Rock and the more serious Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip. But Megan Ganz, who has made amusing podcast rounds in recent years, could easily anchor a show about a sitcom writers' room. Assuming the series would stick to personal relationships and keep the in-show network interference to a minimum, there is potential for huge jokes-per-minute totals. Writers are always the funniest people in the room, right? Right?

Kumail Nanjiani

Where You Know Him Outside of Stand-Up: Silicon Valley, Portlandia

The Premise: Born in Pakistan, Kumail Nanjiani approaches comedy from an observationally geeky standpoint, and his often silly wit could work on TV on several levels. On one hand, he could team up with wife (and The Indoor Kids video game podcast co-host) Emily V. Gordon for a contemporary sitcom about a perfectly balanced marriage in the world of comedy. Or, more predictably, some network could team him up with fellow hot comic Aparna Nancherla for a show that involves white people not being able to pronounce their names properly.

Maria Bamford

Where You Know Her Outside of Stand-Up: Arrested Development, The Comedians of Comedy

The Premise: Bamford has been entertaining audiences for years with stories about her life, her family, and her Minnesota upbringing, often taking on the roles of the other people in her life with hilarious results. The world seems ready for a sitcom involving the comedian having to move back to Minnesota for one reason or another, rebuilding relationships with those who have never left her hometown. Bamford is public about her bi-polar disorder, which could easily play a big part in the story, considering the affliction rarely gets serious attention in TV series.

Jason Mantzoukas

Where You Know Them Outside of Stand-Up: The League, Enlightened, the How Did This Get Made? podcast

The Premise: If you see Jason Mantzoukas on something and he doesn’t make you think about a vagina in a new and disturbing way, then something is clearly wrong. The darkly perverted and hilarious comic desperately needs a series that involves him going out on a series of horrendous dates, and then sharing the results with his comedian friends in the most illicit ways possible, perhaps through charades or Win, Lose or Draw. Seeing the Zouk’s genuine attempts to get laid is a pleasure that American audiences have earned.

Moshe Kasher

Where You Know Him Outside of Stand-Up: his book Kasher in the Rye, @midnight

The Premise: Using a structure that flips back and forth between the present and the past, someone needs to make a series out of Moshe Kasher’s 2012 memoir Kasher in the Rye: The True Tale of a White Boy from Oakland Who Became a Drug Addict, Criminal, Mental Patient, and Then Turned 16. Kasher, the son of deaf Hasidic Jews, had quite the troublesome childhood, going from mental institution to mental institution and spending a bulk of his early teens on drugs. Now clean, Kasher is a consistently funny comic and podcaster whose wide-ranging stories would make perfect TV episodes. For that extra comedic push, Kasher could play himself as a teenager.

Jon Daly

Where You Know Him Outside of Stand-Up: The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, Betas, Kroll Show

The Premise: Jon Daly has about a zillion ways of making people laugh with his highly improvisational comedy and musical skills, but arguably his most memorable bit has been playing the Jelloet Laureate Bill Cosby Bukowski for a series of Funny or Die videos. While this over-the-top impersonation would undoubtedly stretch beyond its expiration date if it went to a full-length sitcom, I’m perfectly willing to suffer it to see what Bukowski does in his free time when he isn’t creating his signature Jelloems. Perhaps Daly could play himself as Bukowski’s best friend on the poet's trek to stardom. I'd say "mmm-mmm" to that.

Howard Kremer

Where You Know Him Outside of Stand-Up: the Who Charted? podcast, Austin Stories

The Premise: A comic mixes his sex-fueled rapper alter ego Dragon Boy Suede into his acts, Howard Kremer has for years used tours and themed albums to spread his love for the sunniest season of the year with the mantra “Have a Summah!” It’s only natural that Kremer should get a series in which he plays a summah supahhero who must frequently break from his comedy-and-partying lifestyle in order to stop the detestable Wintah from trying to take over the world. It helps if you’re as high as this concept is.

Rowan Atkinson

Where You Know Him Outside of Stand-Up: Mr. Bean, Black Adder

The Premise: Rowan Atkinson has proved himself a comedic genius time and again over the last 35 years, with a physical presence that can rarely be matched. But beyond theatrical imports like the terrible Johnny English movies, Atkinson hasn’t really tried to jumpstart an Americanized leg of his career, and we've never really gotten to know the actor behind the iconic roles of Mr. Bean and Black Adder. So what better way to do all that than with a new series that chronicles his attempts to jumpstart the Americanized leg of his career in the most complicated ways possible? Did somebody say Hugh Laurie?

Bill Hicks

Where You Know Him Outside of Stand-Up: Bill Hicks was stand-up.

The Premise: If there is any comic legitimately badass enough to come back from the dead to entertain audiences anew, it’s the extremely intelligent and pointed Bill Hicks. (He died of pancreatic cancer in 1994.) This might not be a show so much as just Hicks sitting on a golden throne, existing again, but I’d give up every other idea on this list (as well as 99% of current television and also my left foot) for this to actually happen.

OK does anyone else think this casting smells of genius? Because I think this casting smells of genius. Via TVLine, FX’s television adaptation of The Coen Brothers’ Fargo just went the comedic route, adding the actors of Comedy Central’s Key & Peele to the already-stacked and impressive roster of folks heading to North Dakota. And hooo wee nelly are we ever excited to witness this truly inspired casting on screen.

Every time I watch the sketch comedy show Key and Peele I wonder why everyone I know isn't talking about constantly. Starring Keegan Michael Key and Jordan Peele, the show tackles silly subjects like rap battle hype men and the absurdity of college football player names as well as more taboo topics like racism, gun control, and domestic violence. And it does all this with an incisive wit and a dedicated outlandishness. So it's about time moviemakers stood up and took notice.

Deadline reports Judd Apatow is teaming up with Key and Peele to pen a currently untitled comedy for Universal Pictures that will serve as a vehicle for the Comedy Central stars. Apatow Productions will produce, while Key and Peele have signed on as executive producers. Unfortunately, none of the above are willing to share what the logline of their pitch was, but Apatow has stated:

Considering the wide range of characters the pair have played on their show--everything from movie-loving valets, to grieving cops, feuding club girls, and President Obama and his anger translator Luther --it's impossible to guess what setup they and Apatow might have pitched to Universal. But having enjoyed every episode of their show so far, I'm optimistic this movie could be downright outstanding. Of course, it helps that Apatow has a clear understanding of the cultural zeitgeist and a sense of humor that blends raunchy and heartfelt in a way that appeals to the masses.

Among his huge hits are The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Knocked Up, Superbad, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, and of course Bridesmaids. All of these earned between $100 million to $288 million worldwide and launched the movie careers of Steve Carell, Seth Rogen, Emma Stone, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Jonah Hill, Melissa McCarthy and Kristen Wiig. Not to mention McCarthy and Wiig also earned rare Academy Award nods for comedy in acting and writing, respectively. Basically, this could be the start of the project that blows up Key and Peele. But fans of the show, don't fret. The guys have already committed to season four, so we won't have to give up their weekly dose of hilarity and satire anytime soon.

For those of you looking for an escape from what's left of the summer festivities, there are some great options on Amazon Prime. Last week, we offered you a selection of excellent, currently-airing TV shows consisting of three seasons or fewer, which were available streaming on Netflix. Today, we have a new list with the same criteria for shows that are not available to Amazon Prime subscribers. Those looking to get caught up on some worth-watching TV series ahead of their respective new seasons may want to give these a try.

Grimm

What if the creepy fairytales your parents told you when you were young were real? Grimm explores that scenario in it's own fun, procedural way, centering on Detective Nick Burkhardt, a man who discovers he's a "Grimm," a descendant of a long line of hunters who track down the supernatural beings that inspired the classic (and in some cases, lesser known) fairytales. While these villainous monsters and beasts look just like regular people to the rest of us, Nick can see them for what they really are, and it's up to him to protect his community from the dangers they pose, while also keeping the nature of his calling a secret from his friends and co-workers. That includes his girlfriend Juliette (Bitsie Tulloch) and detective partner Hank (Russell Hornsby). But Nick proves to be something of a modern Grimm, which means he's openminded enough to associate with some of the dark and dangerous beasts his kind occasionally hunts, including Monroe (Silas Weir Mitchell), a "Blutbad" (or big-bad-wolf) who's sworn off his natural predatory diet and is living a clean life.

Nick, Monroe and their later-introduced Fuchsbau friend Rosalie (Bree Turner) make an unlikely trio, but a formidable one when it comes to facing off against dark and dangerous creatures. And it's the dynamic of this trio, added to Juliette and Hank's involvement, that makes Grimm work so well, particularly in the later part of the first season and throughout the second season when we really start to see the show and characters settling into a groove. Season 2 rewards viewers even further as it grows more and more serialized. Amazon recently added Season 2, so you can get completely caught up before the series returns for Season 3 this October.

Sherlock

You might have heard of this next one, if not the current contemporary adaptation of Sherlock Holmes from the BBC (that seems unlikely at this point), then certainly from the works of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and the many previous interpretations to hit both the big and small screens. That makes it sound like the character is played out but Benedict Cumberbatch plays the resident of 221B Baker St. unlike any other we've seen and is an absolute joy to watch.

Of course, the socially inept for-hire practitioner of deduction is nothing without his partner in crime-solving and The World's End's Martin Freeman as Dr. John Watson (military surgeon turned amateur blogger and sleuth/sounding board) is equally compelling. As are the rest of the ensemble, including several legit Inspectors who don't like the eccentric 'consultant' sniffing around their crime scenes. It’s quite a delight, with the winning characterizations, endless amounts of enjoyable banter and impeccably structured, emotional storytelling.

The third series of Sherlock is gearing up to air on its native BBC (always a few months before surfacing on PBS in the US) so there's plenty of time to catch up with the six, 90 minute episodes. Yep, it's basically six Sherlock Holmes movie mysteries - all on Amazon Prime ready to be watched - and they're all better than a lot theatrical releases. Guy Ritchie's got nothing on Paul McGuigan. Created by Mark Gatiss and Steven Doctor Who Moffat, Sherlock stars Cumberbatch, Freeman, Una Stubbs, Rupert Graves, Louise Brealey and Andrew Scott.

USA’s Suits currently airs over at the cable station on Tuesday evenings. The fun, fast-paced lawyer drama has made a nice niche for itself in the lineup over three seasons, and if you aren’t one of the 2 million plus people who watch the show each week, now might be the time to change your tune. Don’t get us wrong, Suits has a ridiculous premise that would probably never actually happen in real life. A young man named Mike Ross (Patrick J. Adams) has an eidetic memory, which leads him to rock out in court cases and helps him to nab a position as a lawyer at an exclusive firm, despite the fact that he has no law degree. Like we said, ridiculous. But Mike’s big secret, his partnership with the smooth-talking legal wiz Harvey Specter (Gabriel Macht) and the many inner workings of the law firm make Suits a little more glitzy than any other workplace show.

Amazon Prime currently has the first two seasons of Suits available for your viewing pleasure, which means if you get super excited about the series, you won’t be able to catch up completely. The good news is, if you’re into Season 3, you can always keep an eye out for reruns on USA, or go ahead and pay $1.99 to buy the brand new episodes via the Amazon Instant Video.

American Horror Story

The great thing about American Horror Story is that it completely resets each year. Each season, a new set of characters are introduced and a new story is told and resolved throughout the course of that season. Season 1, unofficially titled American Horror Story: Murder House, introduces us to the Harmon family, consisting of Ben (Dylan McDermott), Vivien (Connie Britton) and their teen daughter Violet (Taissa Farmiga). Ben and Vivien are coming off some marital troubles after Ben cheated, and Violet's in the distant teen stage where she feels disconnected to everything. Little do they know that their beautiful new home has a violent history and on that will literally come back to haunt them at every turn. What's real and what isn't? That's for viewers and the Harmons to try to figure out as they attempt to rekindle their relationships with one another and move past their issues while finding themselves drawn further and further into the haunted house mystery that's unfolding around them. Jessica Lange plays Constance Langdon, the Harmon's meddling and unsettling neighbor, while Evan Peters plays Tate, a teen who befriends Violet.

As we mentioned, each season resets, so you don't even technically need to watch Season 1 to dive into the third season, American Horror Story: Coven, when it debuts this fall. But Murder House is so much fun - particularly if you're a horror fan - that it's well worth a look and it'll give you an idea of just how dark and twisted Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk take this series. American Horror Story: Asylum (Season 2) isn't available free for Prime subscribers yet, but Amazon does have it available for purchase.

Under the Dome

Television fans might be obsessing over Walt and Hank drama on Breaking Bad’s final few episodes, but there’s an additional place viewers should be looking to catch Dean Norris: Under The Dome. The bald-headed character actor has guested on an incredible number of programs over the years, but in the aforementioned BB and Under The Dome, he’s finally found places to shine. In the latter, he plays a used car dealer and a shady politician with buried secrets trying to keep a small town afloat after it’s suddenly and mysteriously placed under a giant dome.

Exactly why the town finds itself encased in a binding, impenetrable structure is unclear, but the search for answers is just as fascinating as the relationships between the diverse residents of Chester’s Mill. From cops trying to keep order to army veterans with hidden missions, they’ve all got their own agendas, and interested viewers will find more than enough reasons to come back. Under the Dome is currently airing its first season on CBS, and Amazon Prime's been adding the latest episode to its streaming video selection each week. With big ratings for the summer and plenty of avenues to go in, Under The Dome should be around for awhile, and with only ten produced episodes, now is the perfect time to catch up via Amazon Prime’s streaming service as the first season begins to wrap up on CBS.

Awkward

High school sucks for a lot of teens. That's a story that's been told before, but Lauren Iungerich still managed to breathe new life into the concept with Awkward, a teen dramedy that reflects traces of some of the best and brightest teen tales from past decades, including a bit of Freaks and Geeks-like humor, My So Called Life-angst and maybe some traces of John Hughes heartfelt romantic comedy. Ashley Rickards plays Jenna Hamilton, a beautiful but awkward teen whose combined quirkiness and introspection makes for a very entertaining TV series. Our introduction to Jenna includes an unsatisfying closet-set first sexual encounter while away at summer camp and a bathroom accident that comes off looking like a suicide attempt, which essentially wrecks Jenna's social status at school. As she pines for Matty, her first-time guy who still barely knows she's alive, she's also trying to live down her new reputation, all while walking around in a ridiculous arm cast.

It's Jenna's narrative added to the candid way the series approaches teen life - not sugar-coating it but also not wallowing in angsty gloom - that makes Awkward so much fun to watch, even for those of us who are long past our own teen years, with no desire to relive them. The series is currently on hiatus amidst its third season, but Amazon has Seasons 1 and 2 available on Prime and you can get caught up on Season 3's first ten episodes over at MTV's website before the show returns for the rest of Season 3 this October.

Luther

BBC's Luther follows Idris Elba's Detective Chief Inspector (DCI) John Luther working cases for the Serious (and Serial) Crime Unit in London. Part genius, part lunatic and always mesmerizing, the title character will do just about anything to get his man (or woman) after coming back from a work related trauma. But forget his mental health, the cases always take top priority even if they push him to the brink. Or past. Elba, famous for his turn as Stringer Bell on The Wire and about to portray Nelson Mandela, recently won the Best actor in a Miniseries Golden Globe for the role, having also been nominated the previous year not to mention nods for two consecutive Emmys in the same category.

Series 1 and 2 are on Amazon Prime with the four-part third season airing one episode a night on September 3-6 at 10:00pm ET on BBC America. Sienna Guillory also joined the cast for Season 3, if you needed even more reasons to start watching. And if you don't have BBC America but need to continue mainlining Luther after 'Priming' the first two, you can already purchase the Series 3 DVD provided you own a region-free player. First head over to Amazon Prime to catch-up with one of the best characters on TV. At only 10 installments, the drama is a time-flies situation and you'll also quickly see why people have been clamoring for Idris Elba to be the first black Bond or Batman. Created by Neil Cross, Luther stars Elba, Ruth Wilson Warren Brown, Dermot Crowley and Michael Smiley.

Workaholics

If you're not already watching Comedy Central's Workaholics, well, that's just super loose butthole. See, if you watched the 'office' comedy you would know whether that was a good or bad thing. Okay, you can probably guess and the best way to be tight butthole (not have, be) is to catch up on all the shenanigans you've been missing. The first two seasons of Workaholics are available to watch on Amazon Prime with the third also streaming for a small price. But who knows, by the time you get around to the Season 3, especially if you check out a few of the other possibly time consuming recommendations on the list, it could be gratis. If you can't wait, you can always opt to pay per episode on Amazon for the third season or check out the Blu before the fourth premieres sometime in 2014.

Workaholics was co-created by stars, writers, and executive producers Blake Anderson, Adam Devine, Anders Holm and (director) Kyle Newacheck, and follows the comedic exploits of three hard partying, aimless telemarketers named, uh, named Blake, Adam and Anders (the Ders). The trio not only share an office space but also happen to live together and have for what seems like a long, long time. The chemistry between the three real life friends and former roommates is incredible (translating to the best panel at this past Comic-Con) and, even though the situations are heightened, the series probably doesn't stray too far from their reality. They even shot on location at their house. It's like Curb Your Enthusiasm with a lazy millennial point of view. Oh, and it's also super funny. It might entrap you.

Key & Peele

If you still have the power of childish innocence, or just a really great sense of humor, then you'll want to check out Comedy Central's sketch comedy series Key & Peele, because there are no shortage of laughs to be found there. The series is created by and stars MADtv's Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele and features hilarious pre-taped sketches as well as a bit of stand-up from the two stars. Key and Peele's excellent chemistry with one another is part of what makes their sketches work so well. The other part has to do with their stand-up and the way they incorporate their jokes into the sketches, most of which are timed perfectly to squeeze as many laughs as possible out of a joke and then wrap up before the bit gets tired. In addition to great original sketches in each episode, there's also the brilliant recurring sketch involving Luther, President Obama's "Anger translator" whose job it is to say it like Obama really means it. Those alone are worth watching, but the show is full if great moments.

Key & Peele is headed into its third season next month. In the meantime, Amazon has both Seasons 1 and 2 available for free for Prime subscribers.

Downton Abbey

Since it made its U.S. debut on PBS, Downton Abbey has earned a pretty sizable viewership, making the period drama one of the most successful TV imports in recent memory. Even if you missed the show during its first few seasons on PBS, you can still catch up on the drama before it returns to the schedule in 2014, thanks to Amazon Prime and its digital streaming service.

The years just before and after WWI were difficult for Britain’s entitled classes as the economy and the role of big households in English society changed. This description might sound like boring period politics, but Downton Abbey throws in plenty of romance and enough cutting remarks to keep things interesting over three seasons. Interesting really isn’t a strong enough adjective, though. Viewers who begin watching will likely find the drama to be as addicting as baked goods left in the break room. You’ll swoon when new love interests enter the picture and die a little inside every time Mary (Michelle Dockery) and Matthew (Dan Stevens) miss romantic opportunities. Thanks to Amazon Prime, you won’t even have to wait nearly a year for new episodes. You can power through all three available seasons quickly or linger with the characters for as long as you might want.

How The States Got Their Shapes

Over the past few years, the History Channel has gotten a lot of backlash over its decision to start implementing reality programs and more informal and goofy looks at history at the expense of the dry documentaries type historical examinations we all grew up watching. Well, How The States Got Their Shapes is the perfect middle ground. Featuring host Brian Unger, the program uses the unusual borders between states to tell fascinating and hilarious tales from throughout the history of the United States.

Viewers who tune into the History channel want to learn. They want to be amazed, surprised, wowed and hit with facts they can tell their buddies around the water cooler, but they don’t want to fall asleep while being whispered that information. How The States Got Their Shapes is able to accomplish all of that. It’s high energy and sometimes even highbrow. Episodes air regularly on H2, but they’ve also begun streaming on Amazon Prime. If you’re a history buff or just someone who wants to know more about the why Michigan and Ohio almost declared war over each other thanks to Toledo, you should fire the show up immediately.

Epic Rap Battle is apparently continuing its attempts to top itself by bringing in funny guest stars to face off in a rap battle for the ages. Such is the case for the latest installment in the popular webseries, which features two famous people of historical, fictional or general pop culture significance facing off in each webisode in a rap battle of attempted epic proportions. Who would win if Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr. faced off in a rap battle? Guest rappers Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele attempt to answer that question with this rap.

Key and Peele are familiar with spoofing historical figures and events in their Comedy Central sketch comedy series Key & Peele. In fact, the thought of one of them taking on the role of Marin Luther King, Jr. reminds me of the sketch they did last year, focusing on the guy that spoke after MLK Jr.. The comedy duo guest-starred in the latest webisode of Epic Rap Battles, with Key taking on the role of Gandhi, while Peele plays Martin Luther King Jr.

MLK forgiving Gandhi "so hard right now" is funny, but I think Gandhi's, "I am passively resisting the fact that you suck. I am celibate because I don't give a fuck" wins it. Key earns extra points for his facial expression when he said it. Nothing like ending a peaceful rap by hugging it out, I guess.

Key & Peele join webseries star Jenna Marbles and rapper Snoop Dogg among some of the recent guest stars to be featured in the series.

We can't really blame you if you're not losing your mind with excitement about A Good Day to Die Hard. John McClane has put us through a lot over the years, and with the addition of a son and moving the story to Russia, it's hard to know if we'll be getting the kind of stripped-down action that the original Die Hard brought or the over-the-top craziness of Live Free or Die Hard.

But you know who has no trouble getting excited for the new Bruce Willis movie? Key and Peele. Well, more specifically the valet characters that Key and Peele-- one of the most underrated comedy duos working today-- play occasionally. Check out their excitement for all the Die Hard's, starring Urkel's Dad and J.J.'s Dad and Timothy Elephant, in this video below:

The best part is their excitement isn't really that far off from what you'll hear outside the premiere of any given giant movie, and their hopes that Bruce Willis kills someone with a plant don't sound much more far-fetched than "I hope the Chtauri fight Thor!" or whatever else happened in The Avengers.

We've been getting excited about Die Hard in our own way around here, kicking off a series about the second-best Die Hard movie with a defense of Die Hard 2: Die Harder, and more of them are to come. Time sure does fly when you're having funny. Key & Peele is already set to wrap up its second season this week. One of the sketches from the upcoming season finale had made its way online and reveals what happens when two guys try to out-hat one another. Check it out ahead!

Comedians Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele have delivered another solid season's worth of sketches for Comedy Central viewers. Season 2's 10-episode run draws to a close on Wednesday night. The sketch below, titled "Hatz," comes courtesy of EW and has two guys trying to top one another (semi-literally) when hat envy gets out of hand.

Those are some seriously new looking hats.

Seeing two guys face off in some way has become a recurring theme for Key & Peele, and that's definitely not a complaint as the gag works. One of the recent sketches had two gang members facing off until they discovered their mutual interest in a certain beloved vampire series. Watch that one here to see where that situation leads.

Key & Peele's Season 2 finale airs Wednesday, November 28 at 10:30 p.m. ET on Comedy Central.

The polls are closed and it's being projected that Barack Obama will win this election and four more years in office. While that means a lot of things for America, what it means for Key & Peele fans is the potential for four more years of their Obama & Luther sketches. The comedic duo's portrayal of Barack Obama and his anger translator Luther is one of the best things the show has going for it. And to celebrate the projected victory of our President, they've issued a message to voters and viewers.

For those unfamiliar with these sketches, Jordan Peele plays Barack Obama, the reserved and usually polite president, while Keegan-Michael Key plays Luther, Obama's "anger translator," whose job it is to translate Obama's comments into angry outbursts, saying what Obama is too polite to say.

Comedy Central just released this video, which has Obama and Luther reacting to the election results. As you can imagine, they're in a good mood.

The Hammer dance seems like a fitting reaction to good news. But Obama can't stand by and let his translator bring back MC Hammer's signature moves alone. And I think the president has Luther beat on his version of the dance.

Another Presidential Debate has aired, and thus, another set of funny reactions have begun to make their way online. This includes the songified version of the debate, and in the case of Comedy Central's stand-up/sketch comedy series Key & Peele, another message from President Obama and his trusted anger translator Luther. What do they have to way about this week's debate? Find out ahead!

Luther and Obama are back and ready to review the recent town hall debate, talk about the issues, complain about Romney and maybe throw in a zinger or two in the direction of the moderator Candy Crowley.

"You made it sound like finding a qualified woman is like hunting down a sasquash, riding on the back of of a unicorn reading the specifics of your tax plan."

It's funny seeing Obama politely point out to Luther that he too talked over the moderator, which turns Luther against Candy. Because that's how Luther does it. Obama changes gears, Luther swerves to accommodate.

South Park isn't the only Comedy Central series returning with a new episode tonight! The second season of Key & Peele debuts tonight. Jordan Peele and Keegan-Michael Key's sketch comedy series made a splash in its first season, particularly with the funny sketches parodying President Obama and introducing his translator Luther. Check out the latest Obama/Luthor sketch, and also see Peele's take on a basketball player with a very bad suggestion.

First up is the Obama and Luther sketch. With election season coming up, I'm thinking Key and Peele will have no shortage of material to work with in these segments, and given how popular they are, that's a good thing! For those who haven't seen this bit before, Peele plays the calm and rational President Obama, while Key plays his translator Luther, a man who says everything Obama doesn't, just to make sure his point is coming across.

"Hey Mitt! 47% of the country called and they said you get to be president… of jack shit!"

Jordan Peele appeared on Conan this week and talked to O'Brien about getting to meet the president, who apparently told Peele that he did the best impression of him of anybody. During Peele's appearance on the TBS talk show, he presented this clip, which is based on Kevin Garnett's reaction to a big win.

"I can fly!!!!"

This is actually one of those sketches that gets even funnier with multiple viewings. And it makes me so happy that the show is returning.

Key & Peele returns tonight (Wednesday) at 10:30 p.m. after South Park on Comedy Central.

There are plenty of reasons to look forward to the upcoming second season of Comedy Central's Key and Peele, among which are Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele's White House sketches, which have Peele playing President Barack Obama, while Key plays Luther, Obama's trusted "Anger Translator," the man who says everything Obama doesn't. A promo for Season 2 puts Obama and Luther back together for a message to the viewers.

Given the popularity of the Luther sketches, and the approaching election season, it may be safe to expect even more of these when Season 2 premieres. EW posted the video below, which contains some very NSFW language (so consider yourselves warned!), and has Luther once again, expressing Obama's unspoken rage.

"Oh! And by the way, I also released a birth certificate, driver's license, proof of residence, social security number, old Blockbuster card, a yearbook from middle school and a receipt from a bong from a head shop in Hawaii in 1976! But you ask this motherfucker for his tax returns and he just says, 'Uh, no.' I did not realize that was an option!!!"

There you have it, America. Watch Key and Peele when Season 2 premieres September 26.
