The Dexter franchise is always good for peppering seasons with twisty reveals, and Resurrection certainly didn’t shy away from that in Season 1, from the Gemini Killer being twins to killing off David Zayas’ Angel and beyond. Season 2 is in production and putting its own twists on film, with Brian Cox portraying the New York Ripper, and we somehow already have a big twist to contend with in the form of returning cast member Krysten Ritter.

Ritter, who is also in the midst of reprising her MCU hero Jessica Jones in Daredevil: Born Again Season 3, was revealed by Deadline to be returning to Dexter Morgan’s world as a guest star in at least one episode destined for the 2026 TV schedule, if not more. (FWIW, she was credited as a “special guest star” for her three Season 1 episodes.) Most interestingly, the details behind her return are completely up in the air, to the point where it’s not even clear if she’ll be one of Dexter’s hallucinations or a completely different character.

The lack of clarification isn't such a bad thing in this case, at least from my perspective, as it means there's a chance one of my seemingly debunked theories about Ritter's serial killer Mia LaPierre could still turn out to be legitimate and applicable.

My Theory: Mia's Death In Season 1 Was Totally Faked

At no point after after the end of Episode 6, "Cats and Mouse," did I think that the Lady Vengeance killer actually died in her jail cell after Dexter's actions led to her arrest instead of her murder. Even when faced with what might otherwise be called irrefutable evidence, in regards to Detectives Claudette and Melvin being there in the cell when the guard indicated she was dead after a quick pulse check.

For one, despite Dexter's initial inability to go through with killing Mia, it's his name in the show title. So unless he's seen plunging a knife into a major character's chest, it's very hard for me to believe that Mia is dead. (I mean, if her decapitated head would have found in her disemboweled torso, that would have done it.)

Second, the way it all played out, there's a chance that Charlie paid off the guard only to make it look like Mia hung herself in her cell. The easiest way to take that phrasing is to think that the guard hung her himself, and then made it look like suicide. But in this case, it's possible that the guard gave Mia a heads up, and made it appear to be a self-inflicted death without anyone being dead at all.

This would certainly require some clever flashbacks to be filmed to show just how Mia worked with the guard and potentially Charlie to make her "death" look convincing enough to fool anyone who isn't a coroner. Which is exactly what I expect to see in Season 2, with Thurman already confirmed to be back.

Sure, other ways exist for Ritter to return in the flesh with Mia's death still being genuine, but none that wouldn't feel awkward. They couldn't possibly pull another twin reveal, right? Or a triplets one?

If you watched Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 on the 2026 TV schedule like I did, the latest rumor about Season 3 may not come as a huge surprise, but that doesn’t mean I’m not psyched! It sounds like there is at least a decent chance that The Defenders (Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist) will be fully reunited in Season 3, and I really hope that is the case. It’s all still rumor at this point, but the amount of smoke is growing, and a fire seems more and more likely. Here’s what we know.

The Reunion That Started In Season 2 Will Allegedly Expand In Season 3

After Disney+ successfully revived what was formerly Netflix’s little corner of Marvel with the first season of Daredevil: Born Again, the streamer upped the ante by adding Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter) to the fold in Season 2. Then, after a couple of mentions, we finally got our first look at Luke Cage (Mike Colter) since his own show ended in 2018 at the very end of the season finale. That left just one Defender unaccounted for, Danny Rand, aka Iron Fist (Finn Jones).

Rumors have quickly spread that Iron Fist would be part of Season 3, and this was more or less confirmed when photos of Mike Colter and Finn Jones on set appeared online. Now, a new rumor leans into that and claims that up to half of the upcoming season of Daredevil: Born Again would be about The Defenders. My Time to Shine Hello, who is known for his scoops on X, wrote:

If you’ll recall, Season 2 ended with Daredevil (well, Matt Murdock) getting arrested for being a “vigilante” in the outgoing Mayor Wilson Fisk’s New York, where such behavior was deemed illegal. It sounds like allies are ready to pick up where Daredevil left off, with the potential for a Heroes for Hire project if all goes well.

I Really Hope All Four Defenders Are Involved

I am a big fan of the Marvel shows that started on Netflix with the original Daredevil and continued with spinoffs Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist. Eventually, they all came together in the 8-episode show The Defenders. Those shows have now migrated away from Netflix into the official MCU and can be seen with a Disney+ subscription. I didn’t love The Defenders, but I don’t think Netflix gave them a fighting chance, as the whole enterprise seemed to be running on fumes at the end. I can’t wait to see if Disney+ can revive the superhero team and incorporate them even more into the MCU.

We all know the Avengers are returning on the 2026 movie schedule in Avengers: Doomsday, and I really liked 2025’s Thunderbolts* (though, a Daredevil cameo would have made it better), so bringing back another great superhero team like Defenders is exactly the kind of thing I want from the MCU. Especially because this was a team that started small and grew organically on screen, and that’s how I think things should be done. We’ve got a while to wait for Daredevil: Born Again Season 3 and see if these rumors are true, but it makes total sense, so there’s no reason to believe it’s not true.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is constantly expanding, both on the big screen and through projects streaming with a Disney+ subscription. The latter is the case for Daredevil: Born Again, which is deep into its second season currently. And I got a chance to speak with showrunner Dario Scardapane and EP Sana Amanat about not only bringing back Krysten Ritter's Jessica Jones, but also introducing Matthew Lillard's Mr. Charles in this new batch of episodes.

Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 has been pretty incredible, with the stakes being majorly raised since the first season. Fans who spent years watching the Marvel movies in order have loved seeing characters from the Netflix MCU shows return, including Jessica Jones. When speaking with the pair of producers ahead of the new season, I asked them what was more exciting between the two characters. Scardapane got real, telling me:

As if I needed another reason to be hyped for the final episodes of Season 2. It looks like sparks are going to fly when Jessica and Mr. Charles meet face to face, and with two wildly charismatic actors playing those figures it feels like just about anything could happen. Although Dario Scardapane seems particularly thrilled about bringing Lillard to the MCU.

While I've got issues with Jessica Jones' powers being nerfed in Born Again, I'm still thrilled to see my favorite member of The Defenders finally back on my screen. It turns out that this was always part of the plan for the show, as Scardapane went on to tell me:

There you have it. The showrunner was unable to pick which actor he was more excited to see join Daredevil: Born Again, and the season truly has been an embarrassment of riches so far. We'll just have to wait and see how things end up for both Jessica and Mr. Charles in the final entires of Season 2.

Executive Producer Sana Amanat also spoke about what it was like to see Krysten Ritter return as Jessica for the first time, as she told me:

She's not wrong. Seeing Jessica and Daredevil kicking ass together in Episode 6 was awesome, and that was just the start of their reunion. Only time will tell how often we'll see Krysten Ritter's character moving forward, as well as where Matthew Lillard's Mr. Charles will go. The show has hinted she's working for Julia Louis-Dreyfus' Valentina, so he could end up being a major presence in the shared universe as a whole.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been a well-oiled machine for nearly two decades, regularly releasing new content in theaters and streaming with a Disney+ subscription. Fans who spent years watching the Marvel movies in order were thrilled when it was confirmed that Krysten Ritter was finally returning as Jessica Jones in Daredevil: Born Again, and she made her debut in Episode 6. And while I'm a hardcore fan who is glad to see her back, I'm not happy about the way they nerfed her powers.

Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 has been a wild ride so far, and bringing Krysten Ritter's hero into the fray has only helped to raise the stakes further. But while we got to see Jessica kick ass alongside Charlie Cox's Man without Fear, I did't like the way they made her weaker... or the reason why.

Using Jessica's Motherhood To Nerf Her Powers Made Me Crazy

In Marvel's Netflix shows, Jessica Jones is a superpowered Private Investigator who has epic super strength, durability, and speed. Unfortunately for fans who waited years for her return, she's been nerfed a bit in Daredevil: Born Again. She reveals to Matt that her powers have been wonky since she gave birth to her daughter Danielle. We saw how this worked in Episode 6 fight scene, where she both used those abilities and struggled to even punch a man without hurting her hand. While I get that the writing might needed to hold her back from ending any fights before they begin, I have to admit I'm not a fan of this twist.

While Jessica Jones is extremely strong, she's a brawler who isn't necessarily a trained fighter like Matt Murdock. For me, this is always what helped her not seem overpowered. And as such, I simply don't think that she needed to have her abilities tampered down in Born Again. She was my favorite Defender, so I wanted to see Ritter's hero at full power!

I've got to admit, I also don't love the reason why they nerfed her powers. Namely childbirth and being a mother of her daughter. Motherhood itself is a bit of a superpower, and I don't love the implications that being a parent somehow made her less powerful. We've all heard those stories about mothers who are able to lift cars to save their children, so if anything I feel like Jessica should have gotten stronger, not weaker.

Of course, this is just one of Ritter's three appearances on Born Again Season 2. So it's more than possible that her powers will be brought back throughout the narrative of the season's final episodes. But while I'm hyped to see my girl back on the screen, I've got to admit I don't love this change to Jessica.

The second season of Daredevil: Born Again is continuing the excellent story of the battle between Daredevil and Kingpin. A lot of people are watching not for either of the two main characters, but for the eventual return of Jessica Jones to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Krysten Ritter’s involvement has been known for months, and when we do eventually see her, she’ll be looking very familiar.

While Jessica Jones may not have a superhero costume like Daredevil, her outfit is no less iconic. The black leather jacket that the character wears is basically her cape. We’ve seen in the trailers for Daredevil: Born Again that the jacket is back, but it turns out it isn’t quite the same garment. In a video posted to Instagram, Ritter revealed…

It turns out a little petty larceny goes a long way. If Ritter hadn’t “kept” the jacket from the original Jessica Jones, then the costume designer would have had to rely on pictures of the outfit from the series in any attempt to remake it. While that likely would have gone a long way, it’s unlikely it would have resulted in a true recreation. Because the costume designer was able to use the actual original jacket, she could make one that was identical to the original in every way.

Honestly, if Krysten Ritter had to steal the Jessica Jones jacket from the set when the show ended, then somebody wasn’t thinking clearly. She played the role for three seasons of her show plus The Defenders crossover series. Netflix/Marvel should have gifted her the jacket. There was almost certainly more than one anyway, right? Of course, Ritter is in good company. A lot of actors in the MCU have taken parts of their costumes home. Check out the new version of the jacket below.

Krysten Ritter may need to wait a while before she gets a chance to steal this version of the jacket. Images from the production of Daredevil: Born Again Season 3 have confirmed that Jessica Jones will be back, and rumors of an eventual Jessica Jones spinoff persist. The other two Defenders, Mike Colter and Finn Jones who played Luke Cage and Iron Fist respectively, have also been seen on set. Hopefully, they kept some of their costumes too.

Back when television was dominated by linear networks, deciding when certain shows would be released was important, as you didn’t want your best projects overshadowed by something else. But in an era where all TV is on demand, it’s less of a problem when multiple streamers release their highest-profile series or movies of the month all at the same time. This week is a prime example of that, as some of the best streaming content we’ve seen all month is hitting all at once.

The 2026 TV schedule will mark the return of one of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s most eclectic heroes – Jessica Jones. Krysten Ritter is set to reprise her role as the intrepid private investigator/vigilante on the upcoming Daredevil: Born Again Season 2. Fans have long hoped for Jones’ MCU comeback, as there certainly seemed to be more that could be done with her story. I’m eager to see her again as well and, as Women’s History Month continues, I need to discuss an aspect of Jones’ characterization that arguably doesn’t get highlighted enough.

There’s Something About Jessica Jones That Often Gets Overlooked

Fans have arguably come to love Jessica for a variety of reasons, each of which make sense. Sure, she’s a physically powerful character thanks to her abilities as a metahuman. However, personality-wise, she’s also quite tough and, quite frankly, doesn’t take guff from anyone. On top of that, Jones also has a somewhat sarcasm-tinged sense of humor, which comes through in various situations. I appreciate all of those aspects of Jessica's characterization, but I also appreciate her compassion.

Yes, Jessica can indeed be compassionate, and it’s an undervalued trait of hers that just doesn’t get discussed all that often. While those moments may be rare, they do indeed happen, as Jones has shown her sheer care for other people in circumstances not necessarily related to superheroes. There’s her relationship with her adopted sister, Trish Walker, whom she long looked out for and had intimate conversations with.

Jones’ softer side shines through during her interactions with young Vido Arocho – the son of her former boyfriend Oscar – during the second season of her eponymous show. While Jessica initially finds Vido annoying, she saves his life when he nearly falls out of a window, and in time, she comes to care for him and vice versa.

One of the greatest instances of Jessica’s compassion and humanity, though, is her intense desire to vindicate Hope Shlottmann. Jones sought to prove Hope’s innocence after mind controller Kilgrave (who also sexually assaulted her) made her kill her parents and earn two life sentences for that. All in all, Jessica does what she can to help Hope, as she not only sees a truly innocent person but yet another person victimized by Kilgrave like she was.

Jessica Jones Is One Of The MCU’s Most Complex Characters

Regardless of whether Jones is one of the most powerful heroes in Marvel’s interconnected universe, she’s easily one of its most dynamic. Sure, she’s tough as nails and has a razor-sharp wit, but like any well-written character, she’s layered. Her vulnerability and earnestness are even more important than her physical strength. We’re talking about a protagonist who, deep down, has a heart of gold, and Krysten Ritter beautifully portrays every facet of Jessica.

Daredevil: Born Again’s creative team has dropped details on what to expect in Jones’ return. They “leaned into” the fact that she’ll have changed in the seven years since her last appearance, but they also found it important to maintain her key traits. So if anything, fans should expect Jones to have evolved, but not to have lost her essence, and I’m hoping that includes her compassion.

Witness Jessica Jones’ return on Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, which premieres on March 24 and will be available to stream with a Disney+ subscription. In the meantime, fans can also use that membership to stream all three seasons of the character’s own show.

It’s been nearly a year since we last saw Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock on a collision course with Vincent D’Onofrio’s Wilson Fisk, culminating in quite dour fashion to set up Daredevil: Born Again Season 2. This season is all about resistance, so snatch up that Disney+ and Hulu bundle now at a discounted price if you’re not a subscriber, because if these first reactions to early screenings are any indication, Marvel fans aren’t going to want to miss out on this.

In addition to the Daredevil and Kingpin actors reprising their roles with much of the Season 1 cast, Krysten Ritter will appear as Jessica Jones, Lili Taylor is joining as the New York governor, Matthew Lillard will clash with Kingpin as Mr. Charles, Tony Dalton as Jack Duquesne/Swordsman and Jack Mulhern as simply “Philip.” Vincent D’Onofrio has been hyping Season 2 as “fucking brutal,” and that’s an opinion that’s shared by critic Christopher Gallardo who posted on social media:

Darren Movie Reviews posts that after seeing half of the Season 2 episodes, they can confirm Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 is Marvel’s “most compelling television series to date” with excellent writing, strong performances and “exhilarating” fight scenes. Here’s what they have to say:

Many passionate fans have seen all of the Marvel movies in order, so when they’re excited enough to say Daredevil: Born Again’s second season is among the best the franchise has to offer, that’s a pretty good sign. Daniel Baptista of The Movie Podcast certainly has high praise for the eight-episode season, posting:

The relevance to current events does make for a bit of a rough watch, according to Brandon Norwood of The Film Blerds, but that doesn’t take away from the quality of the story, which he says includes a great redemption arc for one character. Norwood writes:

Nexus Point News declares Season 2 an “upgrade,” writing that Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio give “powerhouse performances,” but don’t sleep on a show-stealing Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page. Their post reads:

We can’t forget about Wilson Bethel’s Bullseye, either, as Aeron Eclarinal of The Direct calls him the MVP of this second season, while echoing the previous critic’s sentiments about the action sequences. Eclarinal’s post says:

The first reactions to Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 are full of words like “brutal” and “mayhem,” with many reporting that the series goes darker this season than the first. Marvel fans appear to have plenty to be excited about — especially with Season 3 already in development.

Fans were certainly excited when it was announced that Charlie Cox would be back as Marvel's Daredevil in his own show for Disney+. However, if anything, the hype for Season 2 has been even bigger, considering it will see the return of Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones.

The Return of Jessica Jones Is Perfect

The first trailer for the new season just dropped, and it's certainly going to get fans hyped for the upcoming Marvel series that will drop on Disney+ in March. It doesn't hold back Jessica Jones, giving her one of the trailer's few lines of dialogue, while also promising she'll get in some of the show's incredible, and incredibly violent, action. Check out the full trailer above.

The snarky interactions between Jessica Jones and Daredevil were among the highlights of the Defenders series, and it's great to see the new show will take us right back there. The implication is that Ritter's appearance in Season 2 will be on par with Jon Bernthal's Punisher in Season 1. So she might only show up once or twice in the show, but it will likely be a big deal when she does.

First Look At Matthew Lillard's Mr. Charles

Krysten Ritter's return isn't the only thing of interest in the new trailer. We also get our first look at Matthew Lillard's character. Lillard is set to play a character named Mr. Charles, who will be a new antagonist, not so much for Daredevil but for Vincent D'Onofrio's Wilson Fisk.

We also get a brief look at Elden Henson as Foggy Nelson. Henson had initially denied an appearance in Season 2, but it has since been confirmed by Marvel Studios that the character would appear. While many fans are still holding out hope that Foggy will somehow not be dead, it's all but certain that Foggy will appear in flashbacks. Though how often that will happen, or what part they will play in the story, is unclear.

One character who does appear to have a more significant role in Season 2 and Season 1 is Deborah Ann Woll's Karen Page. She only appeared sparingly in the first season, but she seems to be a much bigger part in this season based on the trailer, though some of her shots here do also look like flashbacks. Wilson Bethel also has a fairly prominent role in the trailer, indicating a strong presence in Season 2. Bethel has been teasing fans with what Bullseye will get up to in Season 2.

We already know that Daredevil: Born Again Season 3 is happening, so the story might not end here. It's also already being teased that this won't be all we see of Jessica Jones. Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 begins March 24 with a Disney+ subscription.

If I had to choose my most anticipated upcoming superhero movies and TV shows that center on sight-impaired badasses with law degrees, my list would be pretty limited. Still, my excitement for Daredevil: Born Again’s Season 2 return couldn’t be topped even if there were tons of other shows with similar descriptions. Two big reasons for my eagerness? The left fist and the right fist of Krysten Ritter’s hard-drinking Jessica Jones, who will make her grand return in Season 2, but what about the future?

Almost as soon as Ritter’s return was confirmed, fans voiced hopes for Disney execs to take the next step and give Jessica Jones another spinoff season, an idea that Marvel Studios producer Brad Winderbaum hinted was possibly in the cards. Since that point, rumors about JJ making forward progress have surfaced here and there, and that’s the case once more, with online leak-scooper DanielRPK furthering the narrative that a standalone series devoted to Jessica Jones is currently in development.

Despite the report not coming with any brand-new details, the fact that we’re still getting alleged confirmation in the new year about the project going forward is very comforting. Nothing worse than execs going away for holiday vacation and then coming back with completely new ideas and focuses that don’t allow for past ideas to remain in the mix. That presumably isn’t the case here, so it seems like a good time to put some of my own hopes out into the ethers on the off chance that some genius writer reads this.

Kilgrave's Death Should Absolutely Be Retconned If Jessica Jones' MCU Show Happens

Though Daredevil: Born Again was initially conceived as a completely revised take on the Man Without Fear, the project went through a complete creative overhaul during Season 1 at the behest of head honcho Kevin Feige. Hopefully everyone involved takes that experience into account when deciding where this potential Jessica Jones spinoff would go, and how it would handle the three seasons produced for Netflix.

D:BA brought key characters like Foggy (R.I.P.) and Karen to the forefront, while other elements like Stick, Elektra and The Hand are still canonical without ever coming up in conversations. I can only assume the same rules would apply for Krysten Ritter's character, but given the generally agreed-upon opinion that Jessica Jones Season 1 towered above the second and third seasons, I think it would be both smart and minorly necessary to bring back David Tennant's Kilgrave.

I can't say for certain that I'm not writing this under the duplicitous guidance of the Purple Man's mental powers, but I feel like these are authentic-to-me feelings. Beyond Vincent D'Onofrio's Wilson Fisk, Tennant's Kilgrave remains one of my favorite live-action Marvel villains, and I'm far from alone there. Granted, his powers of persuasion and his sexual deviancy also made him one of the darkest comic book villains on the small screen, and I can see why not all Marvel fans would want to revisit his controversial actions. But they can just fast-forward past those scenes.

Retconning Kilgrave's exit might not be the easiest to do from a medical standpoint, considering Jessica straight up killed him in Season 1 by snapping his neck, a crime she was later exonerated for using the (false) argument that he was controlling her mind when it happened. Maybe Kilgrave had everyone involved fall prey to a mass hallucination, and his mental powers were strong enough to cause her to see visions of him as flashbacks in the second and third seasons. Maybe Kilgrave has been hanging out and lounging around the beach for the past ten years.

Of course, the spinoff has to actually get ordered for Kilgrave's return to be a viable option in the first place. Which means we need to actually see Jessica Jones again to prove to Marvel how much we all miss her and that Ritter deserves another solo crack at it. I'm interested to see how Jessica learns Matt is still alive, since it's assumed she's believed him to be dead since the end of Season 3.

All three seasons of Jessica Jones and the first season of Daredevil: Born Again are available to stream via Disney+ subscription, and the Man Without Fear will return for Season 2 on March 4, 2026.

While the Marvel Cinematic Universe won’t see a new big screen adventure until Spider-Man: Brand New Day in July, that doesn’t mean the first half of 2026 will be without major events. Season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again, arguably the most violent thing on Disney+, will drop early next year, and it will also see the return of Jessica Jones.

Krysten Ritter will officially reprise her role as Jessica Jones in the new season, and while the size of her role and the specifics surrounding how she will fit into the story are still under wraps, Marvel producer Brad Winderbaum recently confirmed to EW that the show will have one key element that it absolutely needs: Jessica Jones and Daredevil giving each other shit. He explained:

Jessica Jones and Daredevil previously interacted in The Defenders, the team-up series originally produced for Netflix, which saw the pair join forces with Luke Cage and Iron Fist. The show was… not great if we’re honest, but one of the highlights of it was the way that Jessica Jones and Daredevil continually gave each other grief, all while also having each other’s back.

One person apparently very excited to see this dynamic come back is Daredevil himself, Charlie Cox. He explained that the first time around, they didn’t realize quite how great the dynamic between Jessica Jones and Daredevil was until it happened, which led to them both wanting to do it again. Cox said:

Winderbaum indicates that Jessica Jones' appearance will be something on par with Jon Bernthal’s appearance as The Punisher in Season 1. This would imply a role that would be important to the story in key moments and not simply a cameo, but that Jessica Jones won’t be a regular part of each episode.

As a big Jessica Jones fan, this bums me out a bit. However, there have been indications that Krysten Ritter’s return to the MCU will extend beyond Daredevil: Born Again Season 2. Perhaps she’ll be part of the already-confirmed Season 3; perhaps, like The Punisher, she’ll get her own special. If we’re really lucky, maybe we'll get the return of her own series, just like Daredevil.

The Punisher may not be appearing in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 (though not to worry, as Jon Bernthal is reprising the role next year in both a one-off Disney+ special and Spider-Man: Brand New Day), but Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock will still be joined by an ally from the Marvel Netflix days. Krysten Ritter is making her long-awaited return as Jessica Jones when Born Again starts airing on the 2026 TV schedule, and we finally have our first look at her and Daredevil paired together again. As great as that is, however, I’m also intrigued by seeing Deborah Ann Woll’s Karen Page as a redhead in the upcoming Marvel TV show.

What To Expect From Jessica Jones In Born Again Season 2

In the Daredevil: Born Again Season 1 finale, Matt Murdock started assembling a team to help bring down Wilson Fisk after declared martial law, outlawed vigilantism and started imprisoning people opposing him. Jessica Jones will be one of those recruits, and you can see her and Daredevil out in broad daylight with each other below:

When last we saw Jessica Jones in the final episode of her own series (which can now be streamed with a Disney+ subscription alongside all the other Marvel shows that were originally on Netflix), she was getting ready to leave NYC, but changed her mind after hearing the voice of the deceased Kilgrave tell her that she was making the right decision. It remains to be seen how much we’ll learn about what’s happened to Jessica since then, but as far as her reuniting with Matt for the first time since The Defenders goes, Charlie Cox said this to EW about working with Krysten Ritter again:

Brad Winderbaum added that Jessica Jones’ presence in Born Again Season 2 is “comparable” to how much we saw of Punisher in Season 1. So it sounds like we should only expect to see her in a couple episodes, though maybe this will open the door for her to return in Season 3. Winderbaum also described Matt as a “revolutionary” in Season 2, while Cox recalled that showrunner Dario Scardapane frequently referenced the French Revolution during filming.

What To Expect From Karen Page In Born Again Season 2

Karen Page will be another one of Matt Murdock’s allies in the fight against Wilson Fisk, a.k.a. Kingpin. After being one of the original Daredevil series’ principal characters, she had a reduced presence in Daredevil: Born Again Season 1, only appearing in the premiere and finale. But not to worry, Karen fans, as she’ll have a lot more to do in Season 2, including don some disguises, as shown with the reheated wig she’s wearing while seated next to Matt in the slide above. Cox shared about Deborah Ann Woll’s role:

While Jessica Jones can bring the hurt to bad guys directly with her super strength, enhanced speed and other abilities, Karen will be aiding in the resistance in more behind-the-scenes ways. While I still prefer her as a blonde, I like the redhead look for when she’s looking to get around without people recognizing her. I guess this means Karen’s life in San Francisco is done, as she relocated there after Bullseye killed Foggy Nelson.

Speaking of which, Elden Henson will also reprise Foggy in some unknown capacity, and Seas 2’s newcomers include Matthew Lillard as influential “power player” Mr. Charles and Lili Taylor as New York governor Margaret McCaffrey. Daredevil: Born Again premieres March 4 on Disney+, and I’m looking forward to seeing what challenges await Matt with Jessica, Karen and more by his side.

In June 2019, Marvel’s partnership with Netflix came to an end with the release of Jessica Jones Season 3. Fortunately for fans of this franchise’s era, it’s been able to live on thanks to Daredevil: Born Again. Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock was joined in Season 1 by familiar faces from the original Daredevil series like Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin and Jon Bernthal’s Punisher, and we’ll reunite with Krysten Ritter’s Jessica Jones in Born Again Season 2. Ahead of the upcoming Marvel TV show’s arrival, Ritter reflected on how she felt when her own Marvel series ended.

Ritter, who can next be seen in the 2025 movie release Stone Cold Fox, stopped by Phase Hero to chat about all things Jessica Jones alongside Brad Winderbaum, Marvel Studios’ of streaming, television, and animation. When host Brandon Davis inquired about if the actress thought at the time this would really be the end of her series, she responded:

Jessica Jones Season 1 premiered in November 2015, seven months after Daredevil Season 1 kicked off the Marvel/Netflix era. Ultimately this era would only last four years, and Jessica Jones’ cancellation was announced in February 2019, four months before Season 3 arrived. And yet, despite being sad that Jessica Jones didn’t last longer, she was thankful that the cast and crew were given advanced notice so that they could give the show a proper ending. The same can’t be said for Luke Cage and Iron Fist, which were left with lingering plot threads.

In the final moments of Jessica Jones, Krysten Ritter’s titular character was getting ready to leave for Mexico. However, after hearing the voice of the late Kilgrave in her head telling her she should leave everyone behind, she decided to stay in New York City. It’s unclear how much of the series will be referenced when Jessica’s back in action during Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, as well as how much we’ll learn about what she’s been doing since Jessica Jones Season 3. Regardless, Ritter is clearly jazzed to be reprising the role, and you can be sure a lot of fans are looking forward to her return.

Not only that, in the same interview, when Brandon Davis asked when we might see Jessica Jones: Born Again, Brad Winderbaum answered, “Maybe sooner than you think.” So much like how Jon Bernthal is getting his own Punisher special around the release of Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 in March and ahead of his appearance in Spider-Man: Brand New Day in July, apparently things might be in motion for Jessica to take center stage again.

As a big fan of the Netflix era of Marvel series, specifically Jessica Jones, I was as excited as anybody when it was confirmed that Krysten Ritter would be bringing the character back for Season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again. Of course, as a fan, I certainly hope this isn’t the only time we see Jessica Jones in the MCU, and surprisingly, it looks like Marvel isn’t hiding the fact that she may be back.

Kristin Ritter and Marvel Studios producer Brad Winderbaum recently appeared on the Phase Hero podcast and discussed the future of Marvel TV and the return of Jessica Jones, specifically. When host Brandon Davis asked when we might see Jessica Jones: Born Again, Winderbaum was, while teasing, fairly open that we might very well see something like that, and maybe not before too long, saying:

Season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again is set to debut in early 2026, and while some reports indicated the show would end after that, more recently it’s been reported that Season 3 is in development. With that being the case, the possibility of Jessica Jones returning in a third season is certainly possible, so the character may be far from done.

However, it seems like there might be even more plans for the future of Jessica Jones, and those plans may be much more specific to her. When Krysten Ritter was asked if there was anything that she wished she’d been able to explore with the character during the original run on Netflix, the actress confirmed that there was, but refused to discuss details, as it sounds like she expects to still be able to do some of that. She said:

It's unclear if Ritter's statement that "we're going to be doing it" is a hope, an expectation, or a true-blue spoilery reveal, but regardless of which, it's clear that the woman who plays Jessica Jones doesn't think she's done, and that's a good sign for fans. It will certainly be interesting if we see more of Jessica Jones on Disney+, considering in many ways she pushed the limits of what Marvel was willing to allow more than any other character.

Needless to say, as a fan of Jessica Jones probably more than any of the other Netflix era shows, I’m quite excited at the possibility that we might be getting something new from the character following Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, and that whatever it is may be on the fast track. It feels like a safe bet that whatever it is, we won’t hear about until Season 2 of Born Again runs its course, but now I’m just that much more excited for the new season.

Spoilers below for anyone who hasn’t yet watched Dexter: Resurrection’s excellent fourth episode on Showtime or via Paramount+ subscription, so be warned!

Wowzers and then some, guys. Dexter: Resurrection seemed like it was giving audiences more of a singular storyline hinging entirely on Michael C. Hall’s back-from-retirement vigilante reconnecting with his son after Harrison shot him in New Blood’s finale. (To the point where it sometimes seemed like maybe Harrison should have been the main character.) But Episode 4, “Call me Red,” brought out all the big guest stars and was a glorious reminder of how unpredictable and delightfully weird this horror-soaked universe can be.

Having taken out the horrendously named rideshare-targeting Dark Passenger in Episode 3, Dexter took on his victim’s persona and followed his invitation to meet Peter Dinklage’s hyper-rich Leon Prater ahead of his gathering of the ghouls. Which is where we meet Krysten Ritter’s Mia “Lady Vengeance” Lapierre, Eric Stonestreet’s “Rapunzel”-monikered Al, David Dastmalchian’s brooding Gareth, a.k.a. Gemini Killer, and Neil Patrick Harris’ skin-obsessed Lowell, the Tattoo Collector.

CinemaBlend talked to what is perhaps TV’s most morbid motley crew ahead of the episode, as seen in the video above, and I learned a few details about the new killers, with Michael C. Hall talking about Dexter’s growth and how wild a season this was for him.

David Dastmalchian, Eric Stonestreet And Krysten Ritter Talk Up Their Newly Introduced Serial Killers

No other shows on the 2025 TV schedule feature a cabal of killers gathered together by a serial killer-obsessed benefactor, which is probably good, because Leon Prater would likely find a way to take those other groups out of the running. He certainly has a knack for rounding up highly disturbed individuals, as normal as they may seem sitting around a dinner table.

When I asked which of these newly introduced killers was most disturbing to the new cast members, David Dastmalchian teased some extremely dark scenes on the way for Modern Family vet Eric Stonestreet, saying:

Eric Stonestreet is one of the more affable celebs out there, and often plays characters who exude those same vibes. I can't say that Al isn't a genial dude, but the fact that he's out there killing women and cutting their ponytails off as trophies doesn't exactly warrant a stamp of approval. I can't wait to see how sinister his story gets.

On the flip side of that coin, Stonestreet points to Dastmalchian's Gareth as being the creepiest. Not because it comes as a surprise, but because it's exactly what one might expect. As he put it:

While I doubt Gareth's Gemini Killer has anything to do with actual ducks, I can't help but think about him putting on a giant duck suit in order to pull off his murders. There has to be someone like that out there, right?

Krysten Ritter teased her character by glorifying how non-disturbing she found Mia to be, despite her less positive attributes, and it sounds like she had a blast in the role. In Ritter's words:

At this point, David Dastmalchian spoke up to say how happy he was to finally be sharing the screen with long-time friend Ritter in such a dark project, which she echoed just as happily.

• DAVID DASTMALCHIAN: Can I say, Kristen and I have been friends for a long time, and I've always felt like she's my goth buddy, my goth niece, my goth little sister that I always wanted to get to do something with creatively. And it was really freaking cool to get to go play and be murderers together.
• KRYSTEN RITTER: You were the first... I wasn't gonna say anything yet, but when I found out that he was doing it, I was like, 'We're gonna get to work together finally!'

Gotta love how many smiles are being shared on a show where a dude cuts people's tattoos off of their bodies.

Michael C. Hall Feels Like This Season Was A 'Bizarro, Twisted Superhero Movie'

To be expected, Michael C. Hall was just as excited to get to mix it up with such a varied group of personalities, even if he already had to take one of them out by the end of the episode. (We're really hoping this storyline doesn't run out too quickly.) When I asked if it was surreal to be standing above a guest star like Neil Patrick Harris strapped down to the kill table, the actor responded with:

When I mentioned that I wouldn't have expected Dexter to leave the flirtatious Mia as she showered just to go and find Lowell, Hall got a laugh out of me by pointing to his character's maturity level rising.

On the topic of Leon Prater's vast collection of serial killer trophies and having that be the new world that Dexter is now trying to traverse alongside Harrison's story, Michael C. Hall told me:

Now that he's mentioned superheroes, I'm wondering how Dexter would fare in the world of The Boys, and who he'd try to target first. Or what if Dexter aimed to take on Colin Farrell's Penguin? There should at least be a comic book series tackling that crossover.

Guess who's back? Back again. Dexter's back. Tell a friend, especially if you happen to know that friend is secretly a serial murderer living in the same vicinity as Michael C. Hall's titular vigilantism-skewing killer. The first two episodes of the sequel series Dexter: Resurrection are now available to stream with a Paramount+ subscription, laying out the foundation for where Dexter, Harry and others’ stories are going. Sadly no sign yet of recurring stars Eric Stonestreet or Krysten Ritter, though.

For transparency, I did get to witness both actors’ franchise debuts ahead of the applicable episode hitting the 2025 TV schedule, and they absolutely make this show’s already amazing cast even better. Along with co-star David Dastmalchian, both the Modern Family vet and Jessica Jones alum spoke with CinemaBlend about the new show, and I asked Stonestreet about the crossover between Dexter’s fanbase and that of the long-running ABC sitcom. As he put it:

I can imagine just how much fans might love to screan out Cam quotes from Modern Family, and could also picture how much real-world clown would celebrate his character for making Fizbo such an institution. (Also, not a spoiler, but there actually IS a major infamous clown reference in the actor's first episode.)

There's no such clowning around in Dexter: Resurrection, even if his extremely deadly charcter Al initially seems like he could have stepped out of a primetime comedy. Given the polar extremes between the two shows, Eric Stonestreet doesn't predict that he'll see many fans referencing both series in public, saying:

Not gonna lie, I think Eric Stonestreet's Modern Family co-star Ed O'Neill would be an abso-fucking-lutely perfect addition to the Dexter universe, since he's so perfectly capable of portraying authentic warmth, comedy, and menace with similarly impressive aplomb. But we'll just have to make due to other A+ additions like Uma Thurman, Peter Dinklage and Neil Patrick Harris, I guess...

Krysten Ritter chimed in to the fanbase conversation, saying that even though she's more than accustomed to attention from hardcore fans for her Jessica Jones years and her return in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, she was still surprised by the outpouring the followed the casting news. As she told me:

I'm hoping Ritter's character Mia inspires some Halloween costumes for the upcoming holiday, as she dresses quite fancy at times. Not that it would be the most obvious look, I guess.

Stonestreet capped things off by sharing how much he appreciated Resurrection's bosses Clyde Phillips and Scott Reynolds for giving him a chance to turn over a disturbing new leaf in his character portfolio.

There was a time when Daredevil: Born Again was supposed to exist separately from Daredevil and all the other live-action Marvel shows that had been released in the 2010s (and can now be streamed with a Disney+ subscription). Fortunately, the creative overhaul on Born Again put the kibosh on that approach, with the new series acknowledging events from its predecessor here and there as it aired on the 2025 TV schedule. That will make Matt Murdock’s reunion with Krysten Ritter’s Jessica Jones in Season 2 all the more exciting, though Charlie Cox did address a question fans should have on their minds ahead of Born Again’s return.

It was confirmed last month that Ritter will reprise her Marvel character for the first time since the Jessica Jones TV series ended in 2019 after three seasons. Although Jessica and Matt weren’t exactly the most chummy pairing when they teamed up with Luke Cage and Iron Fist in The Defenders, she’ll definitely be a welcome ally for what’s coming in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2. But while appearing on Deadline’s Crew Call podcast, Cox made this astute point:

In case you’ve forgotten, The Defenders ended with Daredevil getting caught with Elektra Nachos in Midland Circle as explosives were bringing down the building. The final moments of the miniseries showed Matt still alive and being treated in a room with a nun by his side, setting the stage for Daredevil Season 3. However, that final season barely acknowledged the events of The Defenders, let alone included any of those other title protagonists. So yeah, Charlie Cox is absolutely correct: when and how did Jessica learn Matt was still alive?

Maybe Daredevil: Born Again will address this somehow in Season 2, or maybe it will just go unmentioned and we’ll have to just imagine how she received the news. Regardless, Charlie Cox is looking forward to more scenes between Matt and Jessica, adding:

Krysten Ritter is the third of the leading actors from the Marvel Netflix days to reprise their role on Daredevil: Born Again, as Season 1 also included Jon Bernthal’s Frank Castle, a.k.a. The Punisher, who wasn’t present in The Defenders. Bernthal will also be back for Season 2 and is getting his own Punisher Disney+ special, although it’s unclear if that will arrive before or after Born Again’s return. As for Ritter, she posted about her “superhero training” a few weeks ago, so I look forward to seeing Jessica Jones back in action next year.

Among the many other familiar faces who will be back in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, we’ll also meet Matthew Lillard’s yet-to-be-revealed character and Lili Taylor as the governor of New York. Like Season 1, Season 2 will begin airing in March 2026 as part of the MCU’s Phase Six.

If you’re anything like me, you’ve been waiting for any morsel of behind-the-scenes goodness from Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, ever since the first season wrapped its run on the 2025 TV schedule. And, now, thanks to Jessica Jones actress Krysten Ritter’s latest social media post, we’ve got our biggest (and sweatiest) hint yet that the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s most brooding defenders are back in action, and training like hell for Season 2.

Ritter shared a photo on her Instagram Stories that will surely send shockwaves across the MCU fandom. The gym setting -- complete with battle ropes, weights, and a massive American flag on the wall -- adds just the right amount of gritty, no-nonsense NYC Hell’s Kitchen energy. Krysten Ritter looks effortlessly cool in sunglasses and a vintage tee, while Charlie Cox, drenched in sweat, gives off major “lawyer by day, vigilante by night” vibes.

Let’s break this down: Ritter is clearly back in full Jessica Jones mode, which was already announced at the Disney Upfronts earlier this month. But the “superhero training” shout-out might tease that Jones isn’t just making a cameo; maybe she’s gearing up to be a major player in the Daredevil-verse once again. Could we see a revival of her own series? Only time will tell, but I’d love to see that! Because, much like the co-creator of the comic book character explained, Jones’ solo show was particularly successful, and it was my personal favorite of all the Netflix Marvel shows.

Ultimately, though, the sequel series delivered, quickly earning a reputation as the most violent show on the platform and garnering praise from critics and longtime viewers. And, for me, (if you couldn't already tell) one of the most thrilling developments of this high-stakes sophomore season is the confirmed return of Ritter’s Jessica Jones.

As a fan of The Defenders, I have always supported Ritter’s portrayal of Jessica Jones as one of the most fascinating (and criminally underused) characters in the Marvel-Netflix lineup. While Born Again centers on Cox’s Matt Murdock, Jessica Jones’ apparent expanded role hints at a subtle reunion for the street-level heroes that brought a grounded yet thrilling quality to Marvel TV.

Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 is currently in production and expected to premiere on Disney+ sometime in early 2026. In the meantime, here's wishing Krysten Ritter and Charlie Cox well as they continue to train!

With Marvel Studios slowly reintroducing familiar faces from its Netflix-era shows on the 2025 TV schedule, fans have been crossing their fingers for a proper return of Jessica Jones. Krysten Ritter hasn’t exactly been subtle about her interest in returning for an upcoming Marvel movie or TV series. The actress confirmed that she’s still game to step back into Alias Investigations… and might already be halfway into costume. That’s right, she “stole” a little memento from the set, and I’m obsessed.

While appearing on CBS Mornings to promote her second novel, Ritter was asked about her time as Jessica Jones and whether she’d be down for a comeback. The interview clip, shared on the CBS Mornings official YouTube channel, didn’t disappoint—because she reaffirmed her love for the character, saying:

The Sonic 3 actress also dropped a fun little tidbit about a certain piece of wardrobe that may have found its way home with her. According to her:

That’s right—the iconic leather jacket that became practically synonymous with Jessica’s street-smart, no-nonsense persona might be hanging in Ritter’s own closet. And honestly? That feels right.

While she didn’t confirm any official plans or appearances in the works, the fact that she still gets asked about the role “almost every day” speaks volumes. It also doesn’t hurt that Marvel has already brought back the cast of Netflix’s Daredevil series for its own streaming series and reintroduced Jon Bernthal’s The Punisher for multiple upcoming projects. Jessica Jones has been rumored to appear in the pipeline for a while now, so it feels right that it will happen sooner or later.

Still, the real charm of Ritter’s comments isn’t just that she yet again said she is "ready" to return. It’s how much she clearly loved embodying the character. Jessica Jones was unlike any other Marvel hero—more noir, more trauma, more sarcasm—and the Breaking Bad alum brought a sharp, raw intensity to the role that helped define Marvel’s Netflix era. And if Marvel doesn’t bring her back? Well, at least the jacket’s got a good home.

Plenty of upcoming 2025 TV shows can show off having great casts, but which franchise can boast two star-studded lineups across two different timelines centering on the same titular character? That tricky distinction is best exemplified by Showtime’s Dexter series, which concluded its prequel series Original Sin in a theory-sparking way in February, just a few months before the impending spinoff Dexter: Resurrection premieres. The latter started filming in January, and there’s been no end to the exciting cast reveals.

While major details are still somewhat scarce, we know that Resurrection will center on the killer-killing vigilante at some point after he was killed off in New Blood and then brought back to life in Original Sin’s premiere. And we also know that this may well be the most impressive ensemble cast yet to join Michael C. Hall in the world, although it’s technically impossible to beat Original Sin’s mirror images of the O.G. cast.

• It's unknown how many episodes "Mia" will be featured in, but she's also believed to be a potential serial killer who catches Dexter's eye.

Neil Patrick Harris - "Lowell"

• Following the cancellation of his comedy Uncoupled, whose second season was initially picked up by Showtime before the 2023 strikes messed those plans up, Neil Patrick Harris is indeed teaming up with Showtime for this guest-starring spot on Dexter: Resurrection.
• Harris will be portraying a character named Lowell, and little else is known about the role, though set photos revealed the actor will be rocking a rather different hairstyle in the horror-thriller.

Steve Schirripa - "Vinny"

• Sopranos and Blue Bloods vet Steve Schirripa doesn't factor into a ton of TV horror, but he'll be making his mark on the Dexter-verse in a recurring capacity.
• Schirripa will portray a character named Vinny, who will apparently be a greed-mongering landlord of a less than reputable living establishment.

David Dastmalchian - "Gareth"

• Late Night with the Devil and Oppenheimer vet David Dastmalchian is no stranger to horror and genre projects, so it's no surprise he's joining this franchise in a guest-starring capacity.
• Unfortunately, beyond the "guest star" distinction and the lone character moniker "Gareth," nothing else is known about what to expect from Dastmalchian's character.

• Fans have waited ages to see Game of Thrones alum Peter Dinklage's debut as Toxic Avenger, but we'll have to settle for his next TV role as a series regular in Dexter: Resurrection.
• Dinklage will star as a billionaire venture capitalist named Leon Prater, whose publicly philanthropic nature is buttressed by darker interests and urgest.

Uma Thurman - "Charley"

• The first additional cast member to be announced for Dexter: Resurrection alongside Michael C. Hall, esteemed Hollywood icon Uma Thurman landed what is arguably her biggest TV role yet as a series regular within this universe.
• Thurman will portray a polished and dependable character named Charley, who serves as the Head of Security for Peter Dinklage's billionaire Leon Prater, after having previously taken on a variety of upper-level security positions.

Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine - "Blessing Kamara"

• The Lincoln Lawyer vet Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine is set as the series regular named Blessing Kamara, a driver for a rideshare company. He's an extremely positive guy who is dedicated to both his family and his local community, which will either be a good thing or a bad thing for Dexter.

Kadia Saraf - “Claudette Wallace"

• Kadia Saraf, who has portrayed Attorney Anya Avital in both Law & Order: SVU and Organized Crime, will play NYPD Detective Claudette Wallace, who has a reputation for being rigidly methodical and sharp as a tack.

Dominic Fumusa - "Melvin Oliva"

• Best known for Nurse Jackie and Godfather of Harlem, Dominic Fumusa is joining Dexter: Resurrection as fellow NYPD Detective Melvin Olivia, who seems to be the only investigator who totally understands his partner Claudette.

Emilia Suárez - "Elsa Rivera"

• Musician and Up Here co-star Emilia Suárez is set to play the confident and outgoing Elsa Rivera, a workplace buddy of Harrison Morgan's at the Empire Hotel.

Dexter: Resurrection is currently in production, which kicked off in January, and the eventual goal is for the spinoff to debut on Showtime and Paramount+ with Showtime in Summer 2025.

While 2024 was a fairly quiet year for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the 2025 movie schedule has the franchise back to where it used to be. We’re getting three upcoming Marvel movies this year, but perhaps even more exciting is the return of Daredevil in his first TV series on Disney+. I’m certainly hoping the return of Charlie Cox to the role is the first of several returns from the old Netflix Marvel series, and that includes Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones.

While I loved most of the Marvel series originally running on Netflix (and streaming now with a Disney+ subscription), the first season of Jessica Jones was probably my favorite. So I’m one who has been hoping that we see that version of the character in the MCU again. I’m likely not the only one, as Brian Michael Bendis, one of the original creators of Jessica Jones in the comics, tells Forbes that he particularly loved how that character was handled and how the adaptation spoke to people. One of the things that made the Netflix series so different from the rest of the MCU was the way the shows were specifically geared toward a more adult audience. While the most obvious way this manifested was in the form of more graphic violence from the likes of Daredevil and Punisher, it also meant more mature storylines, including the abuse that Jessica Jones suffered and the frequently unhealthy ways she tried to deal with it.

The Netflix series ended with Jessica Jones considering leaving New York, ultimately running away from her problems, before making the decision to stay. It put the character in an interesting place and could make for a good launch pad for a new Marvel series if Disney+ were so inclined.

Krysten Ritter has indicated she wasn't necessarily interested in playing Jessica Jones again, but that was years ago. Mike Colter recently indicated he might be willing to play Luke Cage again because he's been away from the character long enough that returning could be fresh again. If Ritter has a similar feeling, hopefully we can bring them both back.

Charlie Cox has officially kicked the hype train into high gear for the upcoming Daredevil: Born Again, and I couldn’t be more excited. In a recent update, Cox emphasized that the revival isn’t holding back when it comes to the darker, grittier tone—something that made the first series such a standout among superhero shows. But, while I'm stoked for the upcoming Marvel TV series and seeing Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio (who's returning as Kingpin) back to reclaim their Hell’s Kitchen throne, one glaring question remains: Where is Jessica Jones star Krysten Ritter?

Cox’s latest comments, shared during an interview with Entertainment Weekly, reaffirm fans’ hopes that Born Again will recapture the brutal, street-level storytelling that made the Netflix-era Defenders saga so beloved. According to Cox:

Along with Daredevil and Kingpin, Jon Bernthal is back as the Punisher, and even Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll) and Foggy Nelson (Elden Henson) have been confirmed to return. Considering all of those familiar faces, it's really hard to overlook the glaring absence of Jessica Jones.

Krysten Ritter’s powerhouse portrayal of the hard-drinking, trauma-riddled private investigator elevated Jessica Jones into one of Marvel’s most critically acclaimed series. The show tackled mature themes with an unflinching honesty rarely seen in the superhero genre. All in all, the former Breaking Bad star delivered a nuanced performance that resonated deeply with fans.

The Confessions of a Shopaholic actress has made it abundantly clear that she’s ready and eager to return as Jessica. In a recent interview with ComicBook.com, she couldn’t hide her excitement after learning that Marvel Studios’ Brad Winderbaum had singled out Jessica Jones as a Defender he’d most like to see return. The Don't Trust the B---- In Apartment 23 actress responded to the news:

So, why hasn’t that call come yet? With Born Again pulling so much from the Netflix era—characters, tone, and even its gritty DNA—it feels like the perfect time to bring Jessica Jones back into the fold. Matt Murdock and Jessica already have established history from their time in Marvel’s The Defenders, and reuniting these two street-level heroes would give Born Again even more emotional and narrative weight.

Daredevil might be the face of Marvel’s darker, street-level stories but, for me, Jessica Jones was its heart. Her return would be a natural next step for the MCU, especially as Marvel seeks to reintroduce its street-level hero lineup to mainstream audiences. With Ritter’s willingness and fan demand at an all-time high, it’s hard to understand why Brad Winderbaum and co. haven't aligned the stars just yet.

For now, I’m thrilled that Cox and D’Onofrio fought to preserve Born Again’s gritty edge—it’s precisely what we need to keep Hell’s Kitchen alive. But Marvel, take note: the fans are ready, the former Orphan Black: Echoes actress is ready, and the MCU deserves its Jessica Jones revival. Please make the call already.

It's been fascinating seeing how the Marvel Cinematic Universe has changed over the years. On the small screen, city-level heroes were explored through a number of shows originally available with a Netflix subscription. Unfortunately they were all cancelled, but new hope came when Charlie Cox returned as Daredevil in Spider-Man: No Way Home and She-Hulk. Actress Krysten Ritter recently  spoke about possibly returning as Jessica Jones, even being quoted saying "I am ready." Let's break it all down. 

The Netflix Marvel series are now able to be streamed with a Disney+ subscription, showing how they're finally connected to the main MCU. Fans are hoping to see various beloved characters appear in an upcoming Marvel movie, including Ritter's alcoholic brawler Jessica Jones. She recently spoke to with THR about this possibility, offering:

Do you hear that sound? It's Jessica Jones fans all collectively cheering. Those of us who have spent years watching the Marvel movies in order have been waiting to see her crossover with other characters, especially during projects set in New York City. Hopefully Kevin Feige hires the Breaking Bad alum back in that role sooner rather than later.

The MCU has definitely been leaning into those Netflix projects as of late, to the joy of fans. What we know about Daredevil: Born Again is limited, but Charlie Cox's title character will once again take center stage after a number of cameos. Jon Bernthal is expected to return as Punisher during that project, as well as Vincent D'Onofrio, who already returned as Kingpin in Hawkeye and Echo.

Considering how many Daredevil characters are back in the MCU, it seems logical that Kevin Feige and company might pull from other Netflix shows. And while Finn Jones got some hate for his take on Iron Fist, Krysten Ritter's Jessica Jones is almost universally loved by those of us who watched those shows (as well as the Defenders miniseries). 

Of course, the question would be exactly how/why Jessica might come back into the fray. The most obvious choice would be through Daredevil himself, given their pre-existing relationship. But really any story set in New York would provide a potential way in, either in another TV series or even on the big screen.

Out of all the upcoming video game tv shows and movies, it's fair to say Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is one of the most anticipated. Audiences are ready to see the Blue Blur in action once again, especially after the way the second movie ended. It's looking like the third installment will finally introduce Shadow The Hedgehog and open up the world of Sonic drastically.

The following are all the actors and actresses we know that are involved with Sonic the Hedgehog 3. Right now, there is still some mystery as to who some of these actors are playing, so be sure to check back in for updates should we learn more about some of these actors' roles before the premiere date in December.

Ben Schwartz

At three movies in, there's only one man who can voice the "Blue Blur," and his name is Ben Schwartz. We know that Schwartz is back in Sonic 3 to play the title character, but could he be voicing someone else as well? Schwartz told CinemaBlend he's ready for his "villainous era" when we speculated he could also voice Shadow The Hedgehog. We'll have to wait and see if that. actually happens, but I'd be down to see him pull double duty.

James Marsden

James Marsden has been the perfect sidekick to his CGI co-star, and that's thanks in part to the various Sonics used on set to make it look accurate. Marsden's Tom Wachowski is the vehicle that keeps this franchise quickly moving along, and it wouldn't feel the same without seeing him in the mix.

Tika Sumpter

Tika Sumpter is back in Sonic 3, though for fans, it may not seem like she's been away that long. She'll be one of the main cast set to return as part of the Knuckles cast, but what would this movie be without Maddie Wachowski around to help out their furry friends?

Jim Carrey

I'm not sure if playing Dr. Eggman was ever a long-term goal for Jim Carrey, but it certainly feels that way, given how well he understands and plays the role. The main villain of the Sonic franchise disappeared at the end of the second movie, but with G.U.N. unable to find a body, it was assumed that Robotnik had slipped away.

Colleen O'Shaughnessey

Colleen O'Shaughnessey is back and voicing the role of Sonic's best sidekick, Tails. I don't think there's any denying that Tails is Sonic's best friend in the franchise, but with Knuckles now allied with the heroes, there's going to be some proving that he's not the weak link in the chain in this adventure.

Idris Elba

After appearing as the antagonist in the second movie and starring in his own self-titled series, Idris Elba's Knuckles is back and ready to use his super strength to fight for the good guys and, hopefully, stop whatever the latest threat from Dr. Eggman may be. We'll get to see how this group works together in the series, assuming readers have a Paramount+ subscription.

Lee Majdoub

Dr. Robotnik is skilled, but it's Agent Stone, played by Lee Majdoub, who helps him pull off half of his wild schemes. Readers might remember that Stone narrowly escaped capture by posing as an operative for G.U.N. No doubt he'll play a key part in plotting Eggman's return and may even be in a position of power hiding in the shadows of Green Hills. Either that, or he's putting plans in place for the next big scheme for the villain.

Tom Butler

Tom Butler's Commander Walters was disappointed he couldn't find Robotnik at the end of Sonic The Hedgehog 2, and concerned about what he learned next. It was uncovered that a secret location to a lab was exposed, and it was revealed Project Shadow was worked on there. It's a problem we expect to see resolved in the upcoming movie, and Walters will undoubtedly have more to share on the project.

Krysten Ritter

Krysten Ritter will make her debut in Sonic The Hedgehog 3, according to IGN, but we're still in the dark on how she'll be involved. With that said, Ritter is a star of repute, having been in Breaking Bad and Jessica Jones before joining the cast, so it's possible she'll be voicing one of the notable Sonic characters who hasn't been introduced. On the other hand, she could be playing a new character in live-action as well.

James Wolk

James Wolk is another actor with a big question mark next to the character he'll be playing, as we don't know anything beyond the fact he was cast to be in the movie. Wolk is an actor who has had roles on prominent shows like The Crazy Ones and Mad Men, and he's a great addition to the Sonic 3 cast.

Sofia Pernas

Actress Sofia Pernas, who has starred in The Young and the Restless and Justin Hartley's hit CBS series Tracker, will also be a part of the Sonic 3 cast. Unfortunately, we're in the dark once again about what her character will do or if they're appearing in live-action or via CGI, but it's always exciting to see a fresh face join an established franchise!

Cristo Fernández

While Ted Lasso fans brainstorm ways the series can return, star Cristo Fernández is branching out into the Sonic franchise. We have no idea what character he'll play in the upcoming movie, but if his character has the same peppy energy as Dani Rojas, I'm beyond excited to see who he'll play.

Jorma Taccone

Jorma Taccone, one of the masterminds behind The Lonely Island group, will also be in Sonic 3 in an unknown role. Considering he's a force behind a scene considered so wtf it had to be cut from Hot Rod, I'm assuming he's coming into the movie to play a comedic role. We'll have to wait for confirmation to find out for certain, though he could surprise us with something a little more serious for this latest romp in cinema.

Sonic The Hedgehog 3 is currently slated to be released on December 20th, 2024. Hopefully, we'll learn more details about what roles all the actors are playing before its arrival, or at the very least, who will be voicing the villainous Shadow The Hedgehog.

Happy endings for the characters of Breaking Bad were few and far between, but members of the cast recently reunited at an event that looks like a whole lot of fun. Bryan Cranston hosted a celebrity poker night to raise awareness (and money) for the Entertainment Community Fund, and two of his former Breaking Bad co-stars were on board for some Texas Hold'em. Krysten Ritter, whose character had one of the most tragic endings of the show, was all smiles in photos with her fellow former stars, along with other celebs who came out to play.

Fortunately, Krysten Ritter posted plenty of pics from the poker event, including one that showed she was playing against Tulsa King's Andrea Savage, The Vampire Diaries' and Star Trek's Paul Wesley, Academy Award-nominee Annette Bening, and Bryan Cranston himself. In her Instagram Story, she shared a photo of her and Cranston looking a lot chummier than their Breaking Bad characters would have been if they were in a room together: 

Honestly, my favorite part of Ritter's post might be that Bryan Cranston couldn't look any less like the terrifying Walter White, but she included the "I am the danger" emoticon of the star in the role that won him four Emmys for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series. 

Plus, Ritter looks considerably better than she did by the end of her time as Jane in Breaking Bad, although the Jane flashback in El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie showed her in happier times with Jesse (Aaron Paul). Check out her post with Better Call Saul's leading man next!

Krysten Ritter may not have reprised her role as Jane alongside Bob Odenkirk despite ranking as one of the Breaking Bad characters we wanted in Better Call Saul's final season, but it's nice to see that they crossed paths to pose for a pic at the poker event. The two actors' times on Breaking Bad didn't overlap by much, as Jane only appeared in eight episodes of Season 2 and one of Season 3, while Saul appear in just four episodes of Season 2 before appearing much more frequently in the remaining three seasons. 

The actress had more pics to post than just side-by-side with the former Breaking Bad actors. Alongside Smallville's Michael Rosenbaum, she snapped a pic of Cranston while he was looking in a different direction:

The actress didn't spend her whole night hanging out with former co-stars or sitting down at a poker table, however, as she was able to at the very least meet a sitcom icon: Jason Alexander of Seinfeld fame. Krysten Ritter didn't reveal how well she did (or didn't do) at the celebrity poker game, but it seems safe to say that she had a good time! Jesse Plemons was also present as another Breaking Bad alum, according to the Entertainment Community Fund announcement about the event, but Ritter did not share a photo with the actor who played Todd. 

If Ritter's throwbacks to Breaking Bad have put you in the mood to revisit the series, you can find all five seasons streaming now with a Netflix subscription. All six seasons of Better Call Saul are also available, along with the El Camino movie that finished Jesse Pinkman's story and featured more than one cameo from characters who had already died. 

The bazillionaire socialite whom everyone previously loved to hate and hated to love is heading back to TV in a way that fans haven’t experienced before: as a dramatized character portrayed (at least presumably) by a completely different person. That’s right, Paris Hilton is cashing in on the success and relevance of her memoir and documentary by signing on to spin her autobiographical work into a scripted TV series. The few details that we know of seem pretty sweet already, and I know exactly who should play the woman who once asked if Walmart made walls.

The forever-buzzy studio A24 stepped in and optioned Paris: A Memoir to adapt as an episodic TV show, and it would appear as if the execs are highly invested in the project, quite literally, as the deal was reportedly worth six figures, with Dakota Fanning's producer banner also involved. The book made both headlines and heads turn when it was released in March 2023, as the former The Simple Life co-star shared many candid anecdotes from her storied life, including landing on the cover of Playboy and dealing with an eighth grade teacher with a crush on her, and one can only imagine that the TV version of things will also cause a stir or two.

Paris Hilton is said to be part of the upcoming adaptation in some way, shape, or form, but the details of her involvement were not detailed at this point. Now, I think we can all agree there would be a weirdly wonderful appeal to having Hilton portraying herself within the show, especially since the crew wouldn’t need to do much to de-age her. But I have an inaruable pitch for who would truly rock out as the House of Wax vet. 

Kaitlyn Dever, Y'All

Anyone who’s familiar with at least three projects from Kaitlyn Dever’s filmography knows that the actress works wonders in whatever role she takes, regardless of genre, tone, or amount screentime. Comedy? Look no further than Booksmart and her years on Last Man Standing. Straight drama? Dever was aces in Unbelievable, Dopesick and Short Term 12. And she’s no stranger to outside-the-borders fare such as Justified — Lorette McCready for life! — Monsterland and, most recently, Hulu’s invasion thriller No One Will Save You. So there’s nothing in my mind that thinks she wouldn’t be able to spin a multi-dimensional performance out of playing Paris Hilton. 

In the same vein, Kaitlyn Dever has all the cred in the world to instantly legitimize the objectively bonkers concept of “an A24 Paris Hilton movie,” in the same way Daniel Kaluuya producing the Barney movie for the studio makes it seem less ridiculous. Not that Hilton’s life informing a high-profile TV drama is nearly as weird now in the post-prestige TV era as it would have been a decade ago, but there are no doubt plenty of potential viewers who would need a good reason to be swayed into watching. And good reason, thy name is Kaitlyn.

And this is probably not as important as anything else, because Hollywood magic, but Dever is also at the perfect age where she could play a younger Paris without much work needed (beyond loads of blonde hair dye, naturally), and also wouldn’t need much touching up to play a version of Hilton closer to current day. 

Less Logical Dream-Casting Idea: Krysten Ritter

Wouldn't it be a uniquely fascinating trip to see Krysten Ritter in IT Girl mode as Paris Hilton?  I won't spend a whole lot of time trying to convince anyone about this one, since it would seemingly be far less likely to come together, considering Ritter and Hilton are so close in age. But if for some reason A24's head honchos aren't paying attention to my ideas about Dever, they could at least settle on my second choice, amirite? (This show would give the Love and Death co-star a whole different way to get drunk on TV than her time as Jessica Jones' titular badass, too.)

At this point, there's no telling when this new project will begin casting, or when that news will eventually reach future audiences, but I'll be here singing Kaitlyn Dever's praises all the while. In the meantime, our 2023 TV premiere schedule has more than enough small-screen fare to dig into while also wondering who the show will get to play the Kardashians and Nicole Richie. 

Despite the notion that Disney+’s Secret Invasion didn’t exactly expand fandom expectations for all of Marvel’s upcoming TV slate, the future does indeed look bright thanks to exciting projects such as the newly renamed Agatha: Darkhold Diaries, Loki’s sophomore season, and the Man Without Fear’s official standalone MCU entry, Daredevil: Born Again. The latter will bring back former Netflix co-stars Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio as Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk, respectively, and there’s much hope for other Defenders-verse vets to join them. Jessica Jones star Krysten Ritter was already at the top of that list, and after she reunited with the Daredevil pair, it’s as clear as ever that the superpowered private eye needs her own Disney+ series.

As cool as it would have been to see Ritter hanging out with Cox and D’Onofrio on the set of Daredevil: Born Again, that show is currently on production hiatus due to the ongoing WGA writers strike and the SAG-AFTRA actors strike. Instead, the trio were together for some weekend fun in Austin, TX, for this year’s GalaxyCon, where they took part in a panel together while also taking pics with fans from all over. Not that they didn’t get at least one shot of just themselves, as seen below in what would be the ultimate class picture, assuming one went to high school with grown-ass adult Marvel actors. Take a peek at this shot that Ritter shared via Stories on her Instagram page:

Wouldn't it have been a treat if the bottom of Charlie Cox's shoe had a message written on it that revealed Krysten Ritter was joining Daredevil: Born Again ahead of getting her own solo show? I mean, it would probably be easier to read on a bigger sign in the background rather than on a shoe, but it'll all about the showmanship, amirite? Unless maybe there IS a message there, but it's just too small for me to read. (I would also accept a surprise reveal that Jessica Jones will join the cast of Echo, whose premiere launch was pushed back to January 2024.)

Ritter also shared a more up close and personal selfie with Charlie Cox, in which his smile is almost too pleasant and bearded to properly view as a Matt Murdock visage. But they're just so damned cute together!

Ritter also shared some of the pictures and videos that fans took with her, Cox and D’Onofrio at the convention, which certainly didn’t do anything to convince me more from Jessica Jones is a bad idea. The actors presumably couldn’t speak very much about their presence within the MCU, both due to secrecy reasons and due to strike reasons, but that probably didn’t stop fans from wondering what’s on the way.

And since I didn't fully imply this, it should be known that my hopes for a new chapter of Jessica Jones are entwined with hopes for Mike Colter to show up in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as his ass-whooping hero Luke Cage. Or at least that show's banging soundtrack....

HBO is killing it these days. They have had success story after success story with many of their television series, whether it be the post-apocalyptic The Last of Us game adaptation, or the drama-heavy Succession, or even the Game of Thrones prequel series, House of the Dragon, HBO has put out so many amazing shows. And now, they are only going to continue their winning streak with HBO's Love and Death.

The miniseries, starring Elizabeth Olsen and Jesse Plemons, follows the real-life story of Candy Montgomery, who was accused of the murder of her best friend, Betty Gore, who happened to be married to the man that Candy was having an affair with. The miniseries is full of stars, so here is where you’ve seen the Love and Death cast before.

Elizabeth Olsen (Candy Montgomery)

Starting off this list strong is Elizabeth Olsen, who plays Candy Montgomery in Love and Death and is the main character that we are following. Olsen has blown up over the last decade thanks to her role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, where she plays Wanda Maximoff, otherwise known as The Scarlet Witch. She took on this role for several movies, as well as a television series, and while we’re not sure about her future in the MCU, she was such a huge part of it. 

Other than that, Elizabeth Olsen has done so much in the world of movies and television. Some of the films that you might have seen her in besides the MCU would be Kodachrome, Martha Mercy May Marlene, Silent House, Godzilla, I Saw the Light, Very Good Girls, Kill Your Darlings alongside Daniel Radcliffe, Liberal Ats, Ingrid Goes West, and Wind River, among many others. 

Olsen has also done some work in television before this show. As stated before, she was in WandaVision, but she was also in the limited series, Sorry For Your Loss, which won her plenty of acclaim. 

Jesse Plemons (Allan Gore)

Next up on this list is Jesse Plemons, who plays Allan Gore in Love and Death. Plemons has been making a name for himself in television for some time, with roles in shows such as Friday Night Lights and Breaking Bad really putting him in the spotlight. His part on that latter series was so influential that he reprised it in the sequel film, El Camino, several years later, in 2019. 

Other television shows that Plemons has been a part of include the second season of Fargo, as well as a guest role on Black Mirror, which got him an Emmy nomination. 

Plemons has also been very successful in film, as well, appearing in such movies like I’m Thinking of Ending Things, The Power of the Dog (which got him an Academy Award nomination), Judas and the Black Messiah, The Irishman, Other People, Jungle Cruise and more. Truly, someone who has exploded over the last several years. 

Lily Rabe (Betty Gore)

Lily Rabe plays Betty Gore in Love and Death, and she is someone you may be very familiar with from television. 

I primarily know Rabe from her time on the Ryan Murphy created show, American Horror Story, but she also recently had a major role in the Apple TV+ series, Shrinking. Other than that, some of her best TV includes The Undoing, The Underground Railroad (an excellent show on Amazon Prime), The First Lady and The Whispers. 

Rabe has also appeared in films like Vice, Miss Stevens, Pawn Sacrifice, All Good Things, What Just Happened, The Tender Bar and more. 

Patrick Fugit (Pat Montgomery)

Moving on, Patrick Fugit plays Pat Montgomery in Love and Death, and he’s primarily known for his roles in several movies. You might recognize him from films such as Almost Famous, Horseman, Spun, First Man, Queen of Earth, Alex and the List, White Oleander, Gone Girl, The Good Life, and most recently, 2022’s Babylon. 

Fugit has also had roles on television, including a recurring part in Treadstone, and a main role in Outcast. He also did motion-capture and voice work for The Last of Us Part II, which is getting an adaptation in The Last of Us Season 2.

Krysten Ritter (Sherry Cleckler)

Next up on the list is Krysten Ritter, who plays Sherry Cleckler. The actress is primarily known for her television work, and became really well-known when she played Jane Margolis in Breaking Bad, but received even more acclaim when she took on the role of Jessica Jones in Jessica Jones, a role she also reprised in The Defenders on Netflix. 

Other than that, she also had a lead role in the television show, Don’t Trust the B—- In Apartment 23, as well as a recurring role in Veronica Mars and Gravity. Some of her best movies that she’s done include Slingshot, She’s Out Of My League, Confessions of a Shopaholic, Vamps, Big Eyes, The Hero, and the Veronica Mars movie.

Tom Pelphrey (Don Crowder)

Next up on the cast list is To Pelphrey, who plays Don Crowder in the show. Some of the movies that you might have seen him in before include The Girl is in Trouble, Tiger Lily Road, Mank, American Murderer and more. He was also in 2022’s She Said. 

Pelphrey is known more for his roles in television. He had a major role in the Netflix series Ozark, and has had main roles in shows such as Iron Fist, Outer Range, As The World Turns, Guiding Light and others. 

Keir Gilchrist (Pastor Ron Adams)

Keir Gilchrist plays Pastor Ron Adams in Love and Death, and was in plenty of movies and TV shows beforehand. Some of his biggest filme roles thus far have been in Dead Silence, Just Peck, It Follows, Castle in the Ground, An Intrusion, Flashback, and more. 

Gilchrist also had several main roles in shows such as The Winner and United States of Tara, but is primarily known for his main role on Atypical.

Elizabeth Marvel (Pastor Jackie Ponder)

Last but not least is Elizabeth Marvel, who plays Pastor Jackie Ponder. Some of the films you might recognize her from include Holy Rollers, You Hurt My Feelings, Dark Waters, Gifted, Swallows, Aloha, Pretty Bird and The Congressman, among others. 

She’s also had main roles in shows such as The Dropout, House of Cards, Helstrom, The District, Fargo, and she can currently be seen on Peacock's Mrs. Davis. 

With such an impressive cast, it would be no wonder if you've seen each of them in several other shows or movies. I can’t wait to see what they do next after Love and Death.

One of the stars of Marvel and Netflix’s Jessica Jones is unfortunately facing a truly heartbreaking situation. Eka Darville, who played the role of Malcolm Ducasse during the show’s three-season run, recently revealed that his young son is battling brain cancer. The actor got candid about his situation on social media and has also set up a GoFundMe to help pay for the cost of a medical procedure. A plethora of fans have since donated and sent well wishes to Darville and his family. Now, two of his former co-stars, Krysten Ritter and Mike Colter, have reached out as well. 

Eka Darville Explained The Severity Of His Son’s Health Battle

Eka Darville, who has also starred on Empire and Power Rangers: RPM, posted about his son, Mana, earlier this week. The 33-year-old star opened up about the situation in an Instagram update, which he called “the MOST IMPORTANT post of my LIFE.” He explained that his little boy’s diagnosis is “extremely rare, very aggressive and already metastasized.” However, Darville appears to be in good spirits, declaring that his son will “overcome” this obstacle. You can see the actor’s post, which includes a video featuring footage of the adorable child. Darville himself and his partner, Lila, also get real about their son’s journey: 

The Australian-born actor and his partner are now seeking help from two clinics in the U.S., which he says have seen success in dealing with “incurable” brain cancer cases. This information comes by way of the GoFundMe page and, as of this writing, the campaign has raised more than $280,000 of its $600,000 goal. That number seems to be growing and, based on social media posts, many are spreading the word. And it’s likely that the quest to help Mana will get even more attention now that two of Marvel’s Defenders cast members have spoken out.

Krysten Ritter And Mike Colter Sent Out Sweet Messages About Their Former Co-Star And His Son

Krysten Ritter, who played the role of Jessica Jones, took to Instagram to show her support for Eka Darville and his family. She shared the video footage of Mana as well as the link to the GoFundMe page. She also shared some warm sentiments about Darville in her caption:

Many probably remember that before he jumped over to Luke Cage, Mike Colter made his debut as the titular character on Jessica Jones. When addressing addressing the Darville family in his own post, Colter shared the video and reflected on his relationship with Eka, before asking fans to make any kind of contribution that they can:

It’s wonderful to see Eka Darville receive support from his former co-stars during this trying time. Netflix subscription holders enjoyed watching the three stars mix it up on Jessica Jones (which is now streaming on Disney+). So it’s heartwarming to know that they’re all close in real life. One can’t even begin to fathom the situation that Darville and his family currently face, and we send Mana all of the positive vibes as he seeks the treatment he needs.

Jessica Jones was one of the handful of Marvel’s superhero shows that ran on Netflix for several seasons, only to be abruptly cancelled and later removed from the streamer. With the news that Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio are reprising their roles for a new Daredevil series on Disney+, fans had reasons to start hoping that maybe Krysten Ritter’s series could be next, but now a revival seemingly got a lot less likely. The actress has signed on to a new show. 

Krysten Ritter has signed on to a show that will take her back to AMC, after her role in Breaking Bad that preceded the premiere of Jessica Jones back in 2015. She’ll star and executive produce the new series set in the world of Orphan Black, called Orphan Black: Echoes. In an interesting twist, news that the former Marvel hero is headed to the Orphan Black world comes just a few weeks before former Orphan Black star Tatiana Maslany comes to the MCU with She-Hulk.

The Echoes show has already received a series order for a first season of ten episodes; with Krysten Ritter both starring and executive producing, it sounds unlikely that she’d have time to get her own revival of Jessica Jones like Charlie Cox is getting with Daredevil. It may not be too much to hope for a cameo from the private investigator, but also not something that fans should count on. 

Ritter’s new show does sound intriguing, even if it will be short on Marvel familiar faces. Orphan Black: Echoes will follow a group of women on a journey as they come in and out of each other’s lives. It explores the idea of human existence and scientific manipulation. These women are facing a mystery regarding their very identities in a story that will include betrayal as well as love. Not much is known about who Ritter will play, other than that her name is Lucy and she has a mysterious origin story. 

The next chapter in the Orphan Black saga that may keep Krysten Ritter from any foreseeable MCU future is planned to premiere in 2023, although no more specific premiere window has been announced at this point. AMC also has yet to reveal who will join Ritter in the cast of Echoes, or if Maslany could make an appearance. Her various characters certainly make Orphan Black one of the She-Hulk star’s must-watch performances.

Reports of another show set in the Orphan Black world began to circulate back in March of 2019, more than a year after the original ended. The world was also revisited with a podcast series called Orphan Black: The Next Chapter. The upcoming Ritter project sounds like it will be an entirely new story with new characters, but we’ll have to wait and see once more details and cast members are announced. 

As for the future of Krysten Ritter’s Jessica Jones… well, fans can always revisit the three seasons that originally released on Netflix, now streaming for those with a Disney+ subscription. Jessica Jones, like the other Netflix series, was considerably darker than most other content that falls under the Marvel umbrella (connected to the larger MCU or not), but parental controls on the streamer can help parents keep their kids away from the more adult shows without editing them for content. 

Disney got some harsh words from the PTC for bringing the former Netflix shows to Disney+, but Ritter had an A+ reaction to her show returning to streaming after Netflix lost the rights. Personally, I would say that the first season of Jessica Jones involves some of the darkest storylines of Marvel television, and one of the most terrifying villains in David Tennant’s Kilgrave, so adults with kids may want to make the most of those parental controls while enjoying the intensity for themselves.

When the MCU first got its start, it was high on the brawn and low on the girl power. Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow doing a crotch-throat grab in a tight black leather getup and Natalie Portman, Hayley Atwell and Gwyneth Paltrow as supportive girlfriends on the sidelines to the big-league heroes was all there was amidst Marvel’s boys club. Since then, a ton more female Marvel characters have been introduced into the universe that are just as badass, clever and quick-witted as their male counterparts.

That being said, the walls are still stacked behind the women of Marvel leading their own solo movies. Out of the Marvel movies released so far, only 2019’s Captain Marvel, 2021’s Black Widow n and 2023’s The Marvels is all the leading girl power we’ve seen across 35 films.When taking a look at the upcoming Marvel movies, there isn’t a single female-led or female directed Marvel movie on the way . What’s up with that? And yet, there are so many incredible female Marvel characters who are deserving of their own film. Here are our picks:

Storm

One of the most powerful mutants not only in the X-Men movies so far, but, but in Marvel Comics as well has been Ororo Munroe, aka Storm. While Halle Berry and Alexandra Shipp’s version were supporting characters with only a few standout moments in the X-Men franchise, there’s a lot more to her than what’s been explored. She’s actually the daughter of a princess in Kenya and a photojournalist father and was raised between Cairo, Egypt and Harlem, New York. Of course, she has the power to control the weather.

After Ororo was orphaned after her parents were killed in a plane crash, she was taken in by a thief in Egypt and trained by him to become a pickpocket. At some point in her origin story, she becomes worshipped as a goddess for using her powers with the droughts in the African desert. Ultimately she gets approached by Professor X and joins the X-Men, but she also once married Black Panther and became the leader of Wakanda, led the X-Men and worked directly with the Fantastic Four. She deserves a lot better than being on the sidelines. Oh, and Wicked’s Cynthia Erivo already wants to play her!

Spider-Gwen

By now, we’ve arguably seen too many Peter Parker / Spider-Man movies play out, so wouldn’t it be sweet to see a twist with Spider-Gwen leading a spinoff next time around? Spider-Gwen is a comic book character that began in 2015 that follows Gwen Stacy, who is famously Peter Parker’s ill-fated first girlfriend. Except it’s about her life in another universe where she is the one to get the spider bite and it’s Peter who dies in her arms. The character was of course explored as a Sony animated character in the Spider-Verse movies.

Now that the multiverse has been opened in the MCU, it would be exciting to see another version of the Spider-Man origin story through a live-action Spider-Gwen, who by the way has a super cool rock band called The Mary Janes. It’d be an especially great idea with Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man, who he could accidentally meet (both from other universes) and have a love story across dimensions. I could also see actors like Yellowjackets’ Sophie Thatcher, Euphoria’s Hunter Schafer, House of the Dragon’s Milly Alcock or Wednesday’s Emma Myers playing a more age-accurate version of the comic book character.

Captain Carter

After Steve Rogers found his happy ending with Peggy Carter in Avengers: Endgame, Marvel has brought back Hayley Atwell as Captain Carter, an alternate version of Captain America where Peggy gets the super serum instead of Steve Rogers in the animated What If…? series and with a cameo in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Along with Anthony Mackie taking up the mantle in the new Avengers movies, it would be a blast to see Atwell’s version of Captain America in live action for longer than a single scene.

Let me remind you that Atwell’s Captain America character has long been a favorite, having a two-season run on ABC’s Agent Carter as well. And now that Chris Evans has hung up his shield, it’d be fun for the studio to take their What If idea to the big screen, perhaps as a multiverse spinoff storyline. With Robert Downey set to be Doctor Doom, I’d imagine the superhero team could use all the help they could get, but I’d watch an entire solo movie with Atwell back as the character. Even if it’s just an espionage film from the WWII days.

Scarlet Witch

Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch is arguably the strongest Avenger in the MCU. The character has been featured in multiple Avengers films, the first Marvel Disney+ show WandaVision of course, and last time we saw her in 2022, she supposedly died in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.They also built on the world of witches in the MCU with last year’s Agatha All Along series, which was a rare and welcome MCU series with a dominantly female cast.

While one might think Marvel is done with her, given the Vision series is still on the way and Joe Locke confirmed to be her son, Billy Maximoff, I’d love to see a feature film with all eyes on one of the most wildly complex members of the Avengers.

Okoye

In 2018’s Black Panther, the vast world of Wakanda was introduced to audiences to stunning results. Since then, I’ve always loved seeing Danai Gurira’s Okoye, who started as the General of the Dora Milaje and even joined the Avengers for Infinity War and Endgame before the events of Black Panther 2 where she was stripped of her rank by Queen Ramonda.

While we previously heard in 2021 that she might get a TV spinoff that was debunked by Marvel exec Brad Winderbaum recently who said he didn’t think she would be in a TV show but fans will be “excited to come back,” but couldn’t “say where.” Clearly Marvel sees the potential for the character to thrive further, but I sincerely hope she gets to lead a project soon.

America Chavez

When Xochitl Gomez was cast as America Chavez for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, I definitely thought she’d have much more to do than she did, but hey, there was a lot going on in that movie. Last we left her, she was brought under the care of Wong to learn the mystic arts. When she spoke to CinemaBlend about her future back in 2022, she had hopes to get into America’s connection with Kang, but now that storyline has pivoted, I’m worried the MCU won’t know what to do with her.

Of course, given America’s powers to travel to different dimensions, she could easily star in her own coming-of-age adventure where she’s perhaps exploring the multiverse on a smaller scale than an Avengers flick, but I also hope she’ll be recruited to the new team, of course.

Valkyrie

Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie quickly became a fan-favorite when she appeared in Thor: Ragnarok and since then, Marvel has promoted the character to King of Asgard as Chris Hemsworth’s hero went down a rough road during the Infinity War, along with her return in Thor: Love and Thunder. But, I’d also follow the superheroine to other corners of the universe even without the God of Thunder.

While Tessa Thompson’s specific version was created for the movies, her origins tie in with the Secret Avengers and the Fearless Defenders with characters like Misty Knight, Danielle Moonstar and Elsa Bloodstone. She could definitely lead a team of ladies in her own flick.

Yelena Belova 

We waited way too long for the Black Widow solo movie and then when it came out Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova stole the show right under from Scarlett Johansson. The younger sister of Black Widow has an intriguing way forward in the MCU given she has the chance to be the hero the studio was somewhat still figuring out with her arc. Yelena recently helped free an army of Black Widow soldiers and could have her own espionage thriller within the universe.

Of course, Thunderbolts* seems to have her potentially taking center stage in the summer team up movie also involving Bucky Barnes, Red Guardian, U.S. Agent, Taskmaster, Sentry, Ghost and Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, but I certainly wonder if the movie will truly give her a leading role and set up a future where she can be a key female member of the MCU.

The Wasp 

In 2018’s Ant-Man and the Wasp, Michelle Pfeiffer’s Janet Van Dyne reunited with her family after thirty years stuck in the Quantum Realm. With that in mind, there are three decades of a missing timeline for the OG Wasp that could be a really interesting way for the MCU to explore the Quantum Realm itself.

It could play like a survivor movie where Janet finds herself in a mysterious place and learns to live in a reality where “all concepts of time and space become irrelevant as you shrink for all eternity” as Hank Pym has described it. We definitely got to see more of Janet Van Dyne in Quantumania, but I’d definitely be up for exploring more of Wasp’s life in the Quantum Realm.

Jessica Jones

Remember when Netflix made Marvel shows? Well, ever since Charlie Cox’s Daredevil made a cameo in Spider-Man: No Way Home, these characters belong to Disney/Marvel Studios now. And the Daredevil: Born Again series has made the return of more Netflix Marvel heroes feel more possible than ever. In addition to Cox’s Daredevil, Vincent D’Onofrio’s Wilson Fisk and Jon Bernthal’s Punisher entering the MCU, all the shows from the comic book universe Netflix explored are also now available to watch on Disney+ including Jessica Jones.

So technically, Jessica Jones could become part of the MCU, or at least have her own movie from the studio. Krysten Ritter’s character is a well-loved one who could continue her story on the big screen following the cancellation of her magnificent series. Plus, Ritter herself said she “one hundred percent would return” as Jessica Jones, citing that the character she spent five years on is “very important” to her and many fans.

So many ideas for the next female Marvel solo movie! We’ll have to wait and see which characters get movies next. Stay tuned here on CinemaBlend for more updates about the expanding MCU.

Disney+ has gotten darker when it comes to content, and that's a good thing for any fans of Jessica Jones! The Marvel shows that released on Netflix, including Krysten Ritter's series, left their original home and moved to the House of Mouse's streaming platform. Now that Jessica Jones can finally be found on Disney+, Ritter shared a perfect reaction. 

Krysten Ritter portrayed the titular and badass P.I. on Jessica Jones. That show, along with the rest of Marvel’s Netflix slate, has finally made the jump to Disney+. The move prompted the streamer include a parental control due to the content of the shows, which can be much darker than a lot of the Marvel offerings that were already available. Now, with Jessica sharing the same home as some of pop culture's most iconic characters, Ritter posed a question on Instagram that really only has one correct answer:

With Jessica Jones now sharing the same streaming home as The Little Mermaid's Ariel, Frozen's Elsa and Anna, Aladdin's Jasmine, and so many other royals, who can argue with Krysten Ritter's pitch of her Marvel character as a Disney princess? When the Disney streaming platform has a TV-MA setting, anything seems possible. 

In all seriousness, Krysten Ritter isn’t the only Marvel star reacting to her series’ new home. Recently, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D star Elizabeth Henstridge opened up about the ABC show getting a new life on Disney+. She mentioned that the show living on amongst other Marvel series means that people can discover it more easily. And that could definitely be the same with Jessica Jones. 

After it was announced that Jessica Jones, Daredevil, and the other Marvel shows that debuted on Netflix would be leaving the platform, fans speculated that they would either move to Disney+ to join the rest of the Marvel content or head to Hulu, where series can be a bit darker and more uncensored than the usual Disney fare. Once the Disney+ move was confirmed, Michael Paull, President of Disney Streaming, mentioned some new features in place to ensure that the viewing experience is “most suitable” for families.

As for whether we could see Jessica Jones get the Daredevil treatment and make some surprise comebacks within the MCU, only time will tell. While the Marvel Netflix series were once somewhat canon in the MCU, perhaps this is just the jump we need for Ritter to make another appearance. Even if it's a PG-13 one.

While there are no signs that Krysten Ritter will be back for a Jessica Jones Season 4, at least we now have the series in full to stream among the rest of the Marvel library and fellow series. And even though it's very safe to say that the character will never officially be considered a Disney princess, it's fun to imagine her crossing over with Cinderella, Snow White, and Belle!

More and more these days, we’re seeing our favorite actors turn to behind-the-scenes roles and pick up producing and directing credits rather than solely sticking to being the star in front of the camera. Regina King, John Krasinski, Jordan Peele, and Brie Larson are just a few actors-turned-directors that come to mind. Jessica Jones’ Krysten Ritter joined that club in 2019 when she directed an episode of the Netflix series, and now she’s doing it on a larger scale with The Girl In The Woods. 

The Peacock series, made in association with CryptTV, does not include Krysten Ritter as an actor, not even in a cameo. That’s because she pulled double duty as an executive producer and director on the series, alongside Jacob Chase. When CinemaBlend spoke to Ritter, she shared with us when and how she decided she wanted to be behind the camera, along with continuing her acting career in recent roles such as Nightbooks and El Camino.  

At this point, Krysten Ritter has been an actor for over 20 years, and it’s nice to have autonomy about the sorts of projects her name is on. The actress has worked with a lot of directors, especially through her work as a TV actress in arguably the best TV show of all time, Breaking Bad, along with other beloved shows like Veronica Mars and Gilmore Girls. It makes a ton of sense that she’d make the shift, and The Girl in the Woods is an inspired choice.  

The Girl In The Woods balances a bunch of exciting subgenres into one. It’s a teen drama, a small-town horror story and badass monster hunter series. It stars Insidious’ Stefanie Scott, I Am Not Okay With This’ Sofia Bryant and Freaky’s Misha Osherovich. Ritter's decision to helm half the series all started with being the star of the fan-favorite Netflix series. In her words:

Krysten Ritter’s time switching up her role in Jessica Jones allowed her to see how much she could get into being a director, as she remembers that, as well. As she recalled about her time helming the episode “A.K.A. You’re Welcome”: 

The series tackles LGBTQ+ themes, such as involving a queer love triangle between its trio. When Ritter spoke with CinemaBlend, she also expressed how much she loved exploring the relationships within the show, as each teen wrestles with their identities and feelings between all the creepy monster tension. She also discussed with us being very intentional about having the “rare” opportunity to craft an inclusive set right down to the background actors.

When it comes to YA genre movies or television shows, it's almost assured there will be a love triangle baked into the fold. In regard to Peacock and CryptTV’s The Girl in the Woods, its core trio find themselves caught in their feelings for one another. But in a rare and refreshing bit of TV, these relationships are a lot more nuanced than Team Carrie or Team Nolan. The monster hunter horror series from director/executive producers Krysten Ritter and Jacob Chase, of Come Play, who helped construct a queer love triangle that speaks a lot to what it can be like as a high schooler today trying to understand oneself. 

In The Girl In The Woods, now streaming exclusively on Peacock, Stefanie Scott’s Carrie escapes from her colony and finds shelter in Sofia Bryant’s Tasha. There’s a spark between the two of them, as Tasha also wrestles with her longtime feelings for best friend Nolan, played by Freaky breakout Misha Osherovich. Meanwhile, Nolan struggles with gender identity. It’s one of the most intriguing elements of the show, which director/EP Krysten Ritter spoke with us about. In her words: 

Throughout the show, we learn about Carrie’s ex on the colony, Kylie Liya Page’s Sarah, as she begins to become attracted to Tasha all while monsters erupt in her small town. Ritter shared with us that she really loved exploring all the dynamics of the show's relationships. It also makes it more fun on the creative side because which characters get together is a lot less cut and dry than a more traditional teen series. Reed Diamond, who plays Carrie’s father and colony leader Hosea shared with CinemaBlend why the series’ LGBTQ+ elements spoke to him as a father himself: 

Reed Diamond may play an inhibited colony leader but, as an actor, he felt incredibly rewarded to work on this inclusive series that puts LGBTQ+ youth front and center without its characters being solely defined by their sexuality and gender. Important conversations are present in the series about this topic, but there’s so much more to these characters than their genders and sexualities. And ultimately, it's all handled in a very sophisticated way.

Krysten Ritter obviously killed it on the Marvel series Jessica Jones before saying goodbye to the role in 2019 alongside the rest of Netflix’s own Marvel universe. The actress’ latest project, The Girl in the Woods, has her behind the camera as a director and executive producer, and she really took the opportunity to create an inclusive set that challenges gender dynamics along with telling a worthwhile LGBTQ+ story filled with horror. 

The Girl In The Woods is a brand new series streaming on Peacock and made in association with Crypt TV. It’s based on the short film of the same name and follows a mysterious girl named Carrie (played by Insidious 3’s Stefanie Scott) who escapes to a small town from her cult-like colony as a world of monsters begin to open up in a nearby forest. When CinemaBlend spoke to Krysten Ritter about what she brought to her set as an EP and the director of the first half of the season, she shared this: 

Krysten Ritter really took things outside the box when filming her show, even looking at the background actors and making sure even they served as opposites of the stereotypes we might associate with certain people, such as cooks or caretakers. Not to mention the series was completely written by women (J. Casey Modderno and Felicia Ho) among its inclusive crew. 

Even though Krysten Ritter is known for some dark projects, with Breaking Bad being another classic entry in her filmography, she's not necessarily known for straight horror projects. Ritter shared why The Girl In The Woods spoke to her specifically: 

Krysten Ritter took a lot of her ecclectic experiences from her life over to the series, between her own professional work over the past 20 years and her personal upbringing of being from a small town. Ritter continued, telling CinemaBlend:  

The Girl In The Woods blends the fun melodrama of teen shows with a monster-filled series that builds upon the internal fears the characters are going through. Stefanie Scott plays the monster hunter Carrie, I Am Not Okay With This’ Sofia Bryant plays Tasha, who helps Carrie with her exile, and Freaky’s Misha Osherovich plays her best friend Nolan, who is trying to figure out their gender identity in between the adventure and horrors of the series. 

Along with her new show, we’ll also look forward to seeing Krysten Ritter team with WandaVision’s Elizabeth Olsen for a limited series called Love & Death for HBO Max, and perhaps a little Nightbooks 2 if that ending tease gets a payoff. Marvel’s Disney+ shows have been such a hit that it’s easy to forget what life was like before they came along. That said, many can certainly recall when Marvel was the talk of the town over at Netflix, though when fans talk about reviving shows from the Netflix era, they’re mainly talking about Daredevil. Many hope to see Charlie Cox reprise his role as Daredevil in Spider-Man: No Way Home, but how many people have called for Krysten Ritter to make her debut in an MCU movie as Jessica Jones?

I can’t speak for the masses in terms of who all has asked to see Jessica Jones in the MCU proper, but I can personally say she’s a close second for characters from Marvel’s Netflix era I’d love to see get new life in the MCU. Specifically, I think the world should get to see Jessica Jones in a movie, and there’s plenty of reasons why that should be the route Marvel Studios pursues should they bring her back to this universe.

Krysten Ritter Wants To Return As Jessica Jones

When it comes to fans advocating for an actor to reprise their role as a character, I feel it’s always important to consider whether they actually want to do that. Fortunately, Krysten Ritter recently shared that she’s up for returning as Jessica Jones, and was pretty enthusiastic about the idea in an interview with ScreenRant, saying:

Krysten Ritter didn’t leave any room for interpretation there; she wants to play Jessica Jones for Marvel again. Furthermore, she did a damn good job of explaining why other fans of the character enjoyed her and what she would bring to the table if given the opportunity to do so. Of course, straight up bringing her back wouldn’t be quite so simple, though one could argue the road is easier than it once was.

Now that the multiverse has been established and unlocked in the MCU, an infinite number of universes means that Ritter’s Jessica Jones must exist in one of the versions of Earth. Essentially, there’s now an easy way for Marvel Studios to pick and choose which parts of its previously existing shows and films to recognize in the MCU and invite their characters along for the ride if they so choose. Jessica Jones is a solid support character in any Marvel lineup, and she’s also a pretty solid lead as well.

Jessica Jones’ Story Was Mostly Done, But There Are Smaller Stories To Tell In Movies

Krysten Ritter’s Jessica Jones lasted three seasons, and all things considered, the Marvel series did a solid job at telling a solid story from start to finish. Trish and Jessica had their big confrontation, Trish was sent to The Raft, and just when Jessica thought she’d leave New York and put detective and superhero work behind her, a familiar voice convinced her to stay in New York. Not willing to let Kilgrave or any similar villain thrive in her city, Jessica abandoned her idea of a peaceful life in El Paso and went right back into the thick of the city.

Jessica Jones had the type of ending that was conclusive, but also left the door open for follow-up stories if the opportunity came around. The opportunity, in my opinion, has arrived, and while Marvel has delivered movies in theaters and television shows to Disney+, I think a Jessica Jones Disney+ movie would be the perfect middle-ground for the Marvel hero, especially given the more risqué elements to her story. Does anyone remember those steamy sex scenes with Luke Cage? I do, and while I’m not sure Marvel would allow something that sexual in its modern MCU movies made for theaters, perhaps Disney+ can allow the universe to get a little freaky.

It’s also worth noting that if one were to do a standalone Jessica Jones movie heavily tied to the original Netflix series, it would probably appeal to a more niche audience. A Disney+ release would, for one, reduce the pressure of such a film to perform at the box office, but also be a place for the movie to chill while all those who missed the series could catch up with it on Netflix. Hey, maybe if a Jessica Jones movie ever happened, maybe Disney would broker a deal to bring its Netflix shows off the platform and over to Disney+.

Is There A Place For Jessica Jones In The MCU Movies?

I think there’s an argument that because of the more adult themes in Netflix’s Jessica Jones, Krysten Ritter’s character is a bit too rough around the edges for proper inclusion in the MCU. I disagree with any take on that with my whole chest. This is an era where we’ve lost Scarlett Johannson’s Black Widow; we’re due for another strong woman hero.

Of course, there are plenty of other strong women in the MCU, but few can act as the street enforcer that Jessica Jones can. If someone is needed to get to the bottom of a mystery in New York for Nick Fury, is there anyone better to take on that case? Sure, there are stronger heroes who could shake some buildings and use some spells to loosen some lips, but what if there’s a situation that calls for a more delicate approach? The Avengers are great for world-ending problems, but when it comes to secrecy and moments that need to be kept on the down-low, this is perfect territory for Marvel’s street enforcers. Let’s bring Krysten Ritter to the MCU to kick off a new era of street enforcers, and let’s put her in a movie so folks know the MCU is serious about her.

In the vein of Goosebumps, Netflix has released a cute take on telling scary stories this spooky season with an adaptation of J.A. White’s 2018 novel, Nightbooks. The new September release follows a young storyteller, Winslow’s Fegley’s Alex and the horrible fate he finds himself in when an evil witch, Natacha (played by Jessica Jones’ Krysten Ritter) captures him and demands that he writes dark stories to tell her each night. Now that you’ve clicked play, let’s break down everything that went down during the movie.

Nightbooks is actually inspired by the ancient collection of Middle Eastern folk tales, known as One Thousand and One Nights or Arabian Nights. For context, it’s where the original version of Aladdin was written. In the ancient text, a woman named Scheherazade becomes the newest wife of a violent ruler named Shahryar, who marries and kills a new lover each night. However, when he meets Scheherazade, she is able to keep him alive by telling him a new story every night. Now that we know a bit of Nightbooks origins, let’s talk through the ending of the movie.

What Happened At The End Of Nightbooks

For much of the movie, Alex is trapped in a mysterious house with no way out alongside Yasmin (Lidya Jewtt) and a cat named Lenore. The witch Natacha demands that he tell her scary stories each night without happy endings, but Alex is having some trouble getting inspired. We learn from Yasmin that before he came along, she read to her an entire library of scary stories, but they’d run out of new stories to tell.

Alex does some digging into the library in the mystical prison he’s in and finds a secret journal in an old copy of Grimm’s Fairy Tales. In the journal entries, he and Yasmin find a plan someone that goes by “Unicorn Girl” was crafting, including a sleeping spell to use on the witch. They decide to recreate the potion and execute the plan of Unicorn Girl, however it leads them to learning that Unicorn Girl is none other than Natacha and the real witch is terrifying and even more powerful than her, but fast asleep in a chamber.

The Real Identity Of Unicorn Girl And Natacha

When Natacha reveals her true identity, we learn her tragic origin story. She used to be the real witch’s pride and joy of a child and ate all the other children aside from her. Natacha did in fact create that plan to escape and was successful, however once she returned home to her parents, they had moved on without her. To avenge the tragedy and abandonment she went through, Natacha decided to return to the witch’s lair, place her in an encasement that would allow her to harvest her witch powers, but in the process she basically becomes her enemy.

The reason that Natacha captured Alex was because scary stories are like lullabies to her. It keeps her asleep and no longer doing harm to others, you know… like eating children? What’s interesting about this Nightbooks backstory is it has roots in Hansel and Gretel. The movie doesn’t entirely clear up whether the witch is the same exact one from the Grimm’s Fairy Tale, but it’s clearly very similar if not. And inspired by the famous fairytale, Alex and Yasmin end up shoving her in a furnace and that kills her.

What Does Nightbooks’ Final Scene Tease?

Before we get to the final tease, let’s also go back to a major element of the ending of Nightbooks. Natacha forces Alex to tell the story he’d been keeping from her the whole time, which is actually his own. As he finally shares, one of his best friends casts him out at school for being different than the other kids. He says he found his happy ending when she trapped him there because he finally found someone to understand him for who he is in Yasmin. It was the ultimate happy ending and message of the film to be yourself and embrace one’s weirdness. Oh, and the cat named Lenore is now in Alex’s care.

Alex and Yasmin make it back home, with Yasmin apparently back to her parents after three years away. They’ve become best friends and Alex is writing stories again. At the very end of the movie, there’s a tease shot that seems to signify the return of Natacha somehow as her hand closes out of the movie. Perhaps, she’ll want to get her revenge on them after they foiled her plan. I could see her venturing into their world in a sequel should it happen.

Will There Be Another Nightbooks Movie?

At the moment, there is not a sequel greenlit for Nightbooks, but it’s perhaps too soon to know if it’s coming. When the film’s director David Yarovesky spoke to Decider about another movie possibly coming, he said this:

J.A. White is reportedly writing another book in the series called Gravebooks, but it has not hit shelves yet. Perhaps if Nightbooks is successful enough on Netflix it could happen. Overall, the movie was well received by viewers, gaining positive reviews from critics and fans. If there was another Nightbooks movie, there is certainly more that Alex and Yasmin could explore, perhaps with more fairy tales and scary stories to be told and lived.

Nightbooks was produced by Sam Raimi, who famously made the Spider-Man movies and Evil Dead franchise, so that’s a big name to have on the film’s side. Would you want a sequel for Nightbooks? Vote in our poll below.

Two beloved stars of Marvel TV shows are coming together, as Jessica Jones vet Krysten Ritter is joining WandaVision’s own Elizabeth Olsen for a killer new streaming show. And while it’s not exactly the MCU superhero team-up fans would probably hope for, it’s still better than nothing. (And there's always the future.)

Krysten Ritter, who played the titular super-powered Jessica Jones in Marvel's Netflix series, has been cast in David E. Kelley’s limited series Love & Death, according to TVLine. The actress joins fellow Marvel hero Elizabeth Olsen and American Horror Story alum Lily Rabe in the HBO Max series, which was inspired by not only the true-crime book Evidence of Love: A True Story of Passion and Death in the Suburbs, but also articles from Texas Monthly. Love & Death follows two god-fearing couples in a small town whose relatively simple lives in the Lone Star State are flipped upside down once someone starts swinging an axe.

Elizabeth Olsen is trading in her Scarlet Witch powers for blunt instruments, as she’s going to play real-life axe murderer Candy Montgomery. Krysten Ritter has been cast as Candy’s best friend Sherry Cleckler, while the previously announced Lily Rabe is set to play her friend and eventual victim Betty Gore. One can only hope Sherry Cleckler is known for wearing protective suits of armor all the time.

Krysten Ritter is most known for her roles in Breaking Bad, Don’t Trust the B---- in Apartment 23 and, of course, Jessica Jones. Love & Death will potentially be her first television role since the Marvel Netflix series came to an end in 2019 after three seasons and 39 episodes. Jessica Jones was the final Netflix Marvel show to conclude on the streaming service, after the Defenders-based series were cancelled ahead of Marvel Television's dissolution, which all happened prior to Marvel Studios leaning into TV fare on Disney+.

Last year, Krysten Ritter was poised to star in her first Jessica Jones follow-up, which hailed from Don’t Trust the B in Apartment 23 creator Nahnatchka Khan. The would-be series is based off of the novel Serial Killer Anonymous by Charles Warady and it was reported that different companies were in a bidding war over who would land the rights. The project is still in development, so it’s hard to tell if and when that show will move forward with Love & Death in the mix.

When Jessica Jones’ cancellation was announced in early 2019, Krysten Ritter took to Instagram to share a bittersweet message with fans and a picture she had taken from the final table read. While it seems like she’s not too interested in coming back to the MCU, at least for now, fans can still get somewhat of a crossover when she and Elizabeth Olsen play BFFs in Love & Death. The show also stars fellow Breaking Bad and El Camino alum Jesse Plemons, Outcast’s Patrick Fugit, Atypical's Keir Gilchrist, House of Cards' Elizabeth Marvel, and Ozark’s Tom Pelphrey.

There is no word on when Love & Death will premiere on HBO Max, but there are more than enough 2021 Fall TV series to keep audiences busy while waiting to hear updates.

Netflix is on a pretty good run of original movies lately. Beckett starring John David Washington was an entertaining thriller and the Jason Momoa-led Sweet Girl is another throwback to action thrillers of the past. Now we have the first trailer for Netflix’s upcoming horror/fantasy film Nightbooks, starring Krysten Ritter-- and it looks like the perfect blend of Goosebumps and Hocus Pocus. Produced by Sam Raimi, director of Evil Dead, Nightbooks trailer has a classic horror vibe that looks kid-friendly. Well, as kid-friendly as a witch threatening to kill you over and over can be.

Nightbooks follows a young boy named Alex (Winslow Fegley), who is obsessed with scary stories, and stumbles into a weird apartment that belongs to a witch (Krysten Ritter.) Alex is captured by the witch and finds out he can’t escape from the apartment due to its enchanted nature and is forced to write a new scary story every night or the witch will kill him. Alex teams up with the witch’s servant Yasmin (Lidya Newett), and the two try to find a way out of the witch’s apartment and escape certain death.

Nightbooks is an adaption of the novel of the same name by J.A. White, with David Yarovesky of Brightburn fame directing the film. The film has all the makings for a big hit on Netflix as it appeals to kids as well as adults. It honestly looks pretty scary, and if I was the age of the characters in the film and I saw this trailer, I would probably be too frightened to watch it. Stylistically the film looks like a real treat, and the fantastical vibe of the apartment makes for a great setting.

Krysten Ritter looks like she is relishing playing the villain. Her blue hair and long stylish nails make for a visually striking villain for the two children she’s going to be terrorizing in the film. Ritter is formerly the star of Jessica Jones, one of Netflix’s ill-fated Marvel TV shows that had a ton of characters that we wish would come back to the MCU-- Jessica included. Nightbooks looks like another excellent showcase for Krysten Ritter, once again working with Netflix following the Breaking Bad streaming movie El Camino and her show Jessica Jones.

There’s no release date for Nightbooks just yet, but it’s safe to assume it will release relatively soon. Netflix releases trailers for movies, and they come out relatively quickly, typically a few weeks and Nightbooks looks like the perfect movie for Halloween, so a release close to the spooky holiday makes a lot of sense. Nightbooks looks fun and surprisingly scary, and we cant wait to see more from Krysten Ritter and her enchanted apartment.

So, who are they? That’s one secret I’ll never tell. JKJK, I just wanted use my Kristen Bell voice again. Let’s take a look at 13 actors you probably forgot were on the original Gossip Girl series.

Sebastian Stan (Carter Baizen)

Sebastian Stan appeared on Gossip Girl 11 times as bad boy (Weren't they all?) Carter Baizen, with Carter always inserting himself into some kind of drama, including swindling Nate at a poker game, consistently pissing off Chuck, and becoming romantically involved with both Blair and Serena. While Sebastian Stan has amassed a number of film and TV credits, he was most recently seen as Bucky Barnes, a.k.a. Winter Soldier, in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and the accompanying MCU movies, and he bared it all in the relationship drama Monday. He is also set to star as Tommy Lee in the upcoming Hulu biopic Pam & Tommy.

Hilary Duff (Olivia Burke)

Hilary Duff, best known for playing the title character on Disney’s Lizzie McGuire, guest starred in six episodes of Gossip Girl Season 3 as movie star Olivia Burke. Olivia started dating Dan and became Vanessa’s roommate at NYU, which led the former Disney star to engage in some very un-Disney-like behavior when the trio had a threesome. Duff is also known as Kelsey Peters on Younger and is set to star in the How I Met Your Mother sequel spinoff, How I Met Your Father.

Krysten Ritter (Carol Rhodes)

Krysten Ritter plays Lily van der Woodsen’s older, rebellious sister Carol in Season 2’s “Valley Girl,” which flashes back to a crazy night with the college-aged Rhodes sisters that ends in them getting arrested after a fight breaks out at the house party. The Jessica Jones star is also known as Jane from Breaking Bad, her starring role in Don't Trust the B---- in Apartment 23 and guest roles on other popular shows, including Lucy on Gilmore Girls and Gia Goodman in the Veronica Mars cast.

Armie Hammer (Gabriel Edwards)

It’s the rare instance when an actor’s real-life controversy overshadows anything their Gossip Girl character did, but here we are with Armie Hammer, who played Gabriel Edwards in a recurring role in Season 2. Gabriel and his girlfriend, Poppy Lifton, duped the Upper East Side gang into funding a phony philanthropy. There was also an awkward moment when Serena thought she’d married Gabriel in Spain. Hammer is also known for playing twins Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss in The Social Network cast.

Rachel Brosnahan (Pill purchaser)

Rachel Brosnahan makes a brief appearance in the Season 3 episode “It’s A Dad, Dad, Dad, Dad World,” when she confronts Jenny Humphrey for selling her antibiotics instead of OxyContin. The role may have been just a few seconds long, but the line, "I didn't get high, I got a yeast infection," lives forever. These days Brosnahan is known for her award-winning portrayals of Midge Maisel in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and Rachel Posner in the House of Cards cast.

Sam Page (Colin Forrester)

Sam Page appeared in four episodes in Season 4 of Gossip Girl as Colin Forrester, a guest professor at Columbia who was also a billionaire (naturally). Colin's job at the university was threatened when he became involved with Serena (a student), so he quit. He and Serena broke up anyway, leaving Colin to cry into his billions. Page is known for playing Greg Harris on Mad Men and has had recurring roles in shows including Switched at Birth and House of Cards.

Gina Torres (Gabriela Abrams)

While Vanessa spent much of the original series feeling much like an extension of the Humphrey family, we got a couple of guest appearances in Season 3 from her mother, Gabriela Adams, played by Gina Torres. Torres, who is known for playing powerful lawyer Jessica Pearson on Suits and Zoe Washburne on the series Firefly and movie sequel Serenity, has most recently taken on an emotional role as Tommy Vega on 9-1-1: Lone Star.

Brittany Snow (Lily Rhodes)

Like Krysten Ritter, Brittany Snow only appeared in one episode of Gossip Girl, Season 2’s “Valley Girls,” as a young Lily Rhodes (pre-van der Woodsen), who had just been expelled from boarding school and took off to Santa Barbara to find her sister, Carol (Ritter). The Pitch Perfect cast member is also known for playing Meg Pryor on American Dreams and co-starring in the Netflix movie Someone Great. Snow has also had recurring roles on the series Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Ben and Kate, and Nip/Tuck.

Sofia Black-D’Elia (Sage Spence)

You might know Sofia Black-D'Elia as the spoiled, trouble-making teen Sabrina Pemberton from Fox's The Mick. But, for nine episodes of Gossip Girl's sixth and final season, Black-D'Elia played the spoiled, trouble-making teen Sage Spence. Sage, who dated Nate, was the teenage daughter of Serena's boyfriend. Yeah, nothing icky about that scenario at all. Black-D'Elia has most recently played Frannie on Your Honor, as a teacher having an affair with a student, and was Heather in To All the Boys: Always and Forever.

Jerrika Hinton (Waitress)

Before she was Dr. Stephanie Edwards on Grey's Anatomy, Jerrika Hinton had a blink-and-you'll-miss-it role in Season 2’s “Valley Girl” flashback episode. Hinton played a waitress at the restaurant where young Lily Rhodes went looking for her sister. The flashback scenes of this episode featured some well-known faces, likely because it was originally written as the pilot for a potential spinoff. Others you might recognize in "Valley Girls" (besides previously mentioned Krysten Ritter and Brittany Snow) include Ryan Hansen, Matt Barr, and there was even a performance by Gwen Stefani and her band No Doubt. Since leaving Grey's, Hinton has had roles on HBO's Here and Now and the Amazon Prime drama Hunters.

Clémence Poésy (Eva Coupeau)

Careful, Upper East Siders, there's a witch walking amongst you, and she's been getting pretty friendly with Chuck Bass! Clémence Poésy, known by Harry Potter fans the world over as Fleur Delacour, played Eva Coupeau for four episodes of Gossip Girl in Season 4. Eva saved Chuck's life after he was shot in Paris, and while the couple played house in France for a while, they couldn't find the same domestic bliss in New York — you know, where Blair lived. Poésy is also known for her roles in films like Tenet, In Bruges and 127 Hours.

Kevin Zegers (Damian Daalgard)

Kevin Zegers appeared in ten episodes across Seasons 3 and 4 as international drug dealer Damian Daalgard. Besides being the go-to person to text anytime drugs were needed, Daalgard had brief relationships with Jenny and Serena, pulling each of them into his dealings (as well as most of the main cast, if we're being honest). Zegers' other television roles include Dr. Nathaniel Flynn as a member of the short-lived drama Rebel cast, and Mel on AMC's Fear the Walking Dead. He is also known for starring in the Air Bud movies, as well as for his roles in 2005's Transamerica and the 2004 Dawn of the Dead remake.

Mädchen Amick (Duchess Catherine Beaton)

Mädchen Amick is widely known for her role as Shelly Johnson Briggs in Twin Peaks, but for four episodes in Season 2 of Gossip Girl, she played Duchess Catherine Beaton, a married woman who was having an affair with Nate (yuck). Catherine's stepson, Marcus, was dating Blair (Yuck), but it was quickly revealed that Catherine was also having an affair with Marcus (YUCK). Amick can currently be seen on Riverdale as Alice Cooper and has had a number of film and TV roles on shows including Central Park West, Gilmore Girls, ER, Witches of East End and American Horror Story: Hotel.

Outside of guest appearances, Gossip Girl was known for dropping A-listers into episodes as themselves. Vera Wang appeared in the series to design Blair's wedding dress. Rachel Zoe was a good sport, getting chocolate fondue spilled on her at one of Blair's birthday parties. Tim Gunn offered his opinion on Jenny's fashion pieces. Former gymnast Nastia Liukin flirted with Chuck at a party. The list of celebrity cameos is long, and for good reason — it lent credibility to the series as being part of the landscape of NYC's upper crust.

Only time will tell if the reboot will use the same tactics to stand the test of time like its predecessor. Between its network jumps, its Kickstarter-funded movie, and its late-in-the-game fourth season on Hulu, Veronica Mars hasn't had the smoothest run, but the noir-influenced show continues to amass a loyal following, particularly thanks to Kristen Bell's beloved lead performance. Over the years, Bell and several other cast members, including Tessa Thompson and Krysten Ritter, have found fame, which showcases the detective show's sharp eye for up-and-coming talent. Though, of course, it's possible these stars wouldn't be where they are today if this acclaimed program didn't give them a boost. Who can say? With that said, here's what the Veronica Mars cast is doing now.

Kristen Bell (Veronica Mars)

As the titular teenage investigator, Kristen Bell was given the role that paved the way for her star status. Prior to this performance, Bell starred in Spartan and Pootie Tang and episodes of Deadwood, Everwood, and The Shield. Since then, Bell's profile ballooned enormously, notably with Pulse, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Fanboys, When In Rome, Burlesque, Scream 4, and the Bad Moms movies. Most notably, Bell provides the voice of Anna in Disney's ever-popular Frozen films. On television, Bell played key roles in Gossip Girl, House of Lies, and Heroes. She also gave a Golden Globe-nominated performance in NBC's The Good Place, which ended its celebrated run in January.

Currently, Kristen Bell is the host and presenter of Disney+'s Encore. She also provided her voice to Central Park, though she recently left the role. Up next, Bell will star in Queenpins alongside Leslie Jones. Additionally, last year, outside of acting, Bell and her husband, Dax Shepard, founded the company Hello Bello, which is a plant-based baby care product line. It's available exclusively through Wal-Mart. And, of course, Bell reprised her title role in Hulu's fourth season of Veronica Mars.

Enrico Colantoni (Keith Mars)

In the role of Keith Mars, the father of Veronica Mars, Enrico Colantoni played a parental figure throughout this teenager-based series, as well as her private detective mentor. Previously, he was best known for his starring roles in Just Shoot Me and Hope & Faith, as well as Galaxy Quest, A.I. Artificial Intelligence, NYPD Blue, and Money Train. In the following years, Colantoni played lead roles in Flashpoint and Remedy, while also starring in Person of Interest, The Mysteries of Laura, American Gothic, and The Good Fight. Recently, Colantoni was seen in A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, Feel the Beat, and Westworld. Outside of acting, Colantoni directed episodes of Remedy, Nasty Habits, and iZombie.

Percy Daggs III (Wallace Fennel)

As Wallace Fennel, Veronica's best friend and occasional investigating partner, Percy Daggs III played a prominent role in Veronica Mars. Previously seen in Boston Public, NYPD Blue, The Amanda Show, and Freaks & Geeks, Veronica Mars was easily the actor's most high-profile role. Since then, Daggs starred in the web series, The New Adventures of Peter and Wendy, while also making appearances in iZombie, Undone, and Southland. He also starred in American Son, Detention, In the Hive, and Restored Me. He also reprised the role of Wallace in Play It Again, Dick, and the newest season of Veronica Mars. Recently, Daggs made the TV movie, Christmas in Louisiana. Next, he'll star in Delicate State.

Jason Dohring (Logan Echolls)

In the role of Logan Echolls, Veronica's future husband, Jason Dohring plays a central character in Veronica Mars, both as Veronica's love interest and for his frequent involvement in the ongoing drama. Before this show, Dohring was known for Deep Impact, Baywatch, JAG, and more. In the following years. Dohring played a main role in Moonlight (the show) and a recurring role in iZombie. He also appeared in Searching For Sonny, CSI, Supernatural, Ringer, and more. He also co-narrated the audiobook for The Moral Instruments: City of Heavenly Fire alongside Sophie Turner. He also plays Terra in the Kingdom Hearts video games. He was last seen in You Are Here and All Rise. Next, he'll star in Violet.

Ryan Hansen (Dick Casablancas)

Playing Richard "Dick" Casablancas, Logan's womanizing and trouble-making best friend, Ryan Hansen was a recurring character who became a main player. Outside of Veronica Mars, Hansen is known for Party Down, which was also created by Rob Thomas. He was in the main cast of Friends With Benefits, Bad Teacher, and Bad Judge and he had recurring roles in Burning Love and 2 Broke Girls. He also starred in Superhero Movie, Friday the 13th (2009), G.I. Joe: Retaliation, Jem and the Holograms, Central Intelligence, Hit & Run, Bad Santa 2, CHIPS, Unicorn Store, and, recently, Like a Boss. He was last seen in Fantasy Island and Bless this Mess. Next, he'll star in Friendsgiving. He also played a fictionalized version of himself in YouTube Premium's Ryan Hansen Solves Crimes on Television.

Francis Capra (Eli "Weevil" Navarro)

As Eli Navarro, i.e. "Weevil," Francis Capra played the head of a local biker gang who served as an ally to our titular teen detective. Prior to Veronica Mars, the actor appeared in A Bronx Tale, Kazam, Free Willy 2: The Adventure Home, and SLC Punk. In the following years, he appeared on iZombie, NCIS: Los Angeles, The Strain, Blue Bloods, Friday Night Lights, and Heroes. Next, Capra stars in Shadows.

Teddy Dunn (Duncan Kane)

As Duncan Kane, Veronica Mars' ex-boyfriend, Teddy Dunn played a key role in Seasons 1 and 2. He also appeared in Gilmore Girls, 2004's The Manchurian Candidate, Jumper, Grey's Anatomy, CSI: NY, and Kill Theory, but Dunn quit acting in 2009 with A Good Funeral, morbidly enough, to practice law. He worked for the law firm Walden Macht & Haran LLP until this year, when he became Assistant U.S. Attorney at the District of Columbia United States Attorney's Office.

Kyle Gallner (Cassidy "Beaver" Casablancas)

As Cassidy "Beaver" Casablancas, the central antagonist of Veronica Mars Season 2, Kyle Gallner played an emotionally complex character. Prior to Veronica Mars, Gallner starred in Wet Hot American Summer and Red Eye. Following his time on Veronica Mars, Gallner worked on Smallville, CSI: NY, Law & Order: SVU, Big Love, The Walking Dead, and The Shield. Movie-wise, Gallner is known for Jennifer's Body, The Haunting in Connecticut, Red State, Beautiful Boy, A Nightmare on Elm Street (2010), Dear White People, Beautiful Creatures, and American Sniper. Gallner also starred in and produced 2015's dramedy, Welcome to Happiness. He also played the lead role in the short-lived Outsiders and reprised Beaver Casablancas in Play It Again, Dick. He's currently starring in Interrogation. Next, he stars in The Catch.

Tina Majorino (Cindy "Mac" MacKenzie)

In the role of Cindy MacKenzie, i.e. "Mac," Tina Majorino was a computer hacker who became a good friend and a great resource for our titular sleuth. Outside of Veronica Mars, Majorino is a former child star best known for Andre, Waterworld, When a Man Loves A Woman, Corrina, Corrina, and Napoleon Dynamite. Following Veronica Mars, Majorino appeared in several prominent TV shows, including Big Love, Bones, True Blood, Grey's Anatomy, Legends, and Scorpion. She also reprised her character of Deb for Fox's short-lived Napoleon Dynamite animated series. Most recently, Majorino appeared in Into the Dark. While offered a chance to return for Veronica Mars' fourth season, she declined when she realized it was a cameo.

Michael Muhney (Don Lamb)

As Don Lamb, one of Veronica Mars' main enemies, Michael Muhney played one of the more prominent adult characters in this teen-based mystery-noir series and was often at odds with Veronica. Prior to this show, Muhney had bit roles in JAG, ER, Charmed, Without a Trace, and Numb3rs. Shortly after his final Veronica Mars appearance, Muhney became Adam Newman on The Young and the Restless. Since leaving the soap, Muhney works notably less; his most high-profile appearance was in The Good Doctor in 2017. Additionally, in 2011, Muhney co-wrote, produced, and starred in the indie dramedy, Act Your Age.

Tessa Thompson (Jackie Cook)

As Jackie Cook, Wallace's romantic love interest, Tessa Thompson established herself as an actress through this second season character. Since her time on the show, Thompson became a star, particularly through Dear White People, Selma, Creed I & II, Sorry to Bother You, Annihilation, Thor: Ragnarok, Little Woods, Avengers: Endgame, Men in Black: International, and 2019's Lady and the Tramp. Currently, Thompson is seen on HBO's Westworld. Her other TV credits include Grey's Anatomy, Private Practice, Heroes, and a primary role on Cooper. Next, Thompson stars in Sylvie's Love, which she also produced, and Passing. Thompson also co-produced/lent her voice to the mystery sci-fi podcast, The Left Right Game, earlier this year. Amazon picked it up. We'll also see her reprise her role as Valkyrie in Thor: Love And Thunder.

Julie Gonzalo (Parker Lee)

Playing Parker Lee, Mac's extroverted roommate who goes through a traumatizing event at the start of her freshman year, Julie Gonzalo played a prominent role in Veronica Mars Season 3. Prior to this role, Gonzalo starred in Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story, A Cinderella Story, Must Love Dogs, Freaky Friday (2003), and Christmas with the Kranks, as well as Drake & Josh and NCIS. Following Veronica Mars, including her Season 4 guest star role, Gonzalo stayed on television, notably with Eli Stone, Dallas, and Supergirl, as well as supporting roles in Grey's Anatomy, Lucifer, CSI: Miami, Nikita, and Castle. Most recently, Gonzalo starred in the indie horror-thriller, A Dark Foe, which played on the film festival circuits. Next, Gonzalo appears in the TV movie, Jingle Bell Bride.

Chris Lowell (Stosh "Piz" Piznarski)

Playing Stosh "Piz" Piznarski, Wallace's roommate, Chris Lowell had a fun role during Veronica Mars' third season and its Kickstarter-funded film. Before Veronica Mars, Lowell had a main role in the short-lived teen drama, Life As We Know It. Following Veronica Mars, Lowell earned lead roles in Private Practice, Enlisted, Graves, and, most recently, GLOW. Outside of TV, Lowell starred in Up in the Air and The Help. He also wrote, directed, and produced 2014's Beside Still Waters. Next, Lowell appears in Promising Young Woman and Breaking News in the Yuba County. Outside of acting, Lowell is a vocalist and a harmonicist for the acoustic band, Two Shots for Poe.

Krysten Ritter (Gia Goodman)

As Gia Goodman, a fellow Neptune High student, Krysten Ritter had a recurring role in Season 2 and Veronica Mars' movie adaptation. Prior to that, Ritter appeared in Mona Lisa Smile and Someone Like You. In the years since her time in the movie and series, Ritter's profile rose by starring in one of the lead roles in Don't Trust The B in Apartment 23, a significant part in Breaking Bad, and the title role in Netflix's Jessica Jones — a character she also played in The Defenders. She also starred in such films as 27 Dresses, Listen Up Philip, Big Eyes, She's Out of My League, and Margaret. She starred and co-wrote the 2011 indie comedy, L!fe Happens. She also wrote the novel Bonfire and sings and plays guitar in the band, Ex Vivian.

Amanda Seyfried (Lilly Kane)

As Lilly Kane, Veronica Mars' slain best friend who dramatically altered our main character's life forever, Amanda Seyfried played a small-but-pivotal role in Veronica Mars. Previously, Seyfried was best known for All My Children and As the World Turns, as well as her scene-stealing character in Mean Girls. Since then, Seyfried's profile has risen enormously, notably with starring roles in the Mamma Mia movies, Les Miserables, Dear John, Red Riding Hood, In Time, Jennifer's Body, Chloe, Alpha Dog, Lovelace, First Reformed, Ted 2, Letters to Juliet, and more. She also played significant roles in Big Love and Twin Peaks' third season. Most recently, Seyfried was seen in You Should Have Left and The Art of Racing in the Rain and heard in Scoob! Next, she'll star in Things Heard & Seen, Mank, and A Mouthful of Air, which she also produced.

Syndey Tamiia Poitier (Mallory Dent)

Playing Mallory Dent, i.e. Ms. Dent, Veronica Mars' journalism teacher, Syndey Tamiia Poiter (the daughter of Sidney Poitier) played a primary role during Veronica Mars' first season. Previously, Poitier had a recurring role in Joan of Arcadia and the titular part in Abby. She also starred in Clint Eastwood's True Crime. Since then, Poiter stayed primarily on TV, notably with a main role in the short-lived Knight Rider reboot, as well as recurring roles in Chicago P.D. and Homecoming. She also played brief parts in Grey's Anatomy and Hawaii Five-0, as well as Death Proof, Nine Lives, Clinical, and Too Late, among other film roles. Nowadays, Poitier plays a main role in the Canadian cop series, Carter.

Breaking Bad fans are about to get a reunion between Aaron Paul and Krysten Ritter. The actors, who have remained remarkably busy since their respective days on the AMC series, will be collaborating on a new project. In this case, it will be a twist on the old adage of being seen and not heard. For Paul and Ritter’s latest project, they will be heard and not seen.

What is going on? Well that's an excellent question. Variety reports that both Breaking Bad stars have signed on to voice characters in the Audible adaptation of James Patterson’s The Coldest Case: A Black Book Drama. They will also be joined by Game of Thrones’ Nathalie Emmanuel, marking another exciting role for that franchise's actress as well.

The Coldest Case: A Black Book Drama is a prequel to James Patterson’s The Black Book. While that might give readers insight into the Audible project, we do know a little more information. The Coldest Case follows Bill Harney, a homicide detective who sends his partner Kate undercover to investigate a drug ring. Bill’s decision to suddenly pull her out causes Kate’s to cover to get blown, and their investigation is subsequently tanked. Kate’s informant disappears along with the drug ring, and the eponymous “black book.” Another investigation ensues, and it uncovers an elaborate web of criminal activity.

It sounds like it will be another dark dive for Aaron Paul and Krysten Ritter, who are no strangers to the ins and outs of portraying characters in a criminal underworld. They did star on Breaking Bad, which hinged on the dealings of the drug business. After their days on Breaking Bad, Ritter’s work on Marvel's Jessica Jones also had her in the investigation business, so this new role should be a good fit.

Breaking Bad enthusiasts will recall that the two co-starred on the series as love interests. Paul’s Jesse Pinkman was the boyfriend of Ritter’s Jane. The latter incurred a tragic end, although Ritter did later put in an appearance as Jane for the Breaking Bad movie, El Camino. It does not sound like this new project will be all that romantic, so the similarities to Breaking Bad will end with the criminal underworld component.

As far as television roles go, on-screen Paul recently starred in the third season of Westworld. In other work, Aaron Paul took a bite out of crime, starring as a convicted murderer claiming his innocence in AppleTV+’s Truth Be Told. Meanwhile, Krysten Ritter has a new dark comedy about a female serial killer, so stay tuned for that. It seems both actors enjoy dabbling in the crime genre.

In addition to the upcoming Audible release, you can watch Aaron Paul and Krysten Ritter on Breaking Bad on Netflix. I am sure that you probably recognize Milo Ventimiglia from his Emmy-nominated work on This Is Us, or you know Melissa McCarthy from her Oscar-nominated work on Bridesmaids. Yet, unless you still stream repeats of the series on a loop, you may have forgotten what show was responsible for essentially kickstarting their careers: Gilmore Girls.

The one-hour dramedy about single mother Lorelai Gilmore (Lauren Graham), her teenage daughter, Rory (Alexis Bledel), and the eccentric townsfolk they endure on a daily basis in Stars Hollow, Connecticut, ran for seven seasons on The WB (later The CW). For having a simple premise and an almost entirely dialogue-driven structure, its clever narratives and wonderful cast ensured it would be popular enough to garner a four-part sequel on Netflix almost a decade after it ended in 2007.

By then, much of the cast, from one-episode wonders to regulars from the beginning and behind-the scenes personalities had already gone onto bigger things. For some, much bigger. The following are just 10 stars whose resumes prove that Gilmore Girls was a fruitful breeding ground for celebrities in the making.

Alexis Bledel (Rory Gilmore)

From playing a young, but spunky, prostitute in Sin City, joining a sisterhood based on a pair of very durable jeans, and a college professor turned resistance agent on Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale (for which she won a Primetime Emmy) Alexis Bledel is one of the most versatile and charming actresses of her generation. Of course, the former teen model’s most recognizable character remains her first ever credited role in Gilmore Girls, on which she made the social, romantic, and career-based aspirations of Rory Gilmore just as important to us as our own daily struggles.

Sean Gunn (Kirk Gleason)

Earlier, when I spoke of “eccentric individuals,” I was mostly referring to Kirk Gleason: a socially inept mama’s boy who held many jobs in Stars Hollow, and was played by Sean Gunn. Kirk is widely considered the actor’s best known character, which could be because his A-lister co-stars in the Marvel Cinematic Universe often get the bigger pieces of the spotlight despite his dual roles in the MCU (Kraglin and Rocket Raccoon’s body double). He is also frequently cast by his brother, a little filmmaker you might have heard of named James Gunn.

Jared Padalecki (Dean Forester)

I must say, I find it hilariously ironic how Jared Padalecki initially rose to heartthrob prominence on Gilmore Girls as Rory’s first love, Dean Forester, and would later be cast in his defining role on Supernatural as Sam Winchester, who snuffs out paranormal activity with his brother, Dean. Now, with the fantastic fellow CW series nearing its end after 15 seasons, the 37-year-old “scream king” will star in the title role of Walker which is - you guessed it - a reboot of the Walker, Texas Ranger crime series originally headlined by Chuck Norris.

Melissa McCarthy (Sookie St. James)

Despite being a series regular for the entire run of Gilmore Girls as Independence Inn chef (and later co-owner of the Dragonfly Inn) Sookie St. James, Melissa McCarthy did not become much of a TV star until her Emmy-winning turn on CBS sitcom Mike & Molly. It was the following year, after earning her first Academy Award nomination for her supporting role in 2011’s Bridesmaids, when she became a movie star and one of the most sought after comedic actresses in Hollywood, leading to her casting as Ursula in Disney’s upcoming live action remake of The Little Mermaid.

Milo Ventimiglia (Jess Mariano)

After several years of one small movie appearance or ill-fated TV role after another, Milo Ventimiglia’s career finally got a taste of stability after he joined the cast of Gilmore Girls in Season 2 as the troubled Jess Mariano, who was the nephew to Luke (Scott Patterson) and rival to Rory’s jealous boyfriend, Dean. After leaving the show in 2006, Ventimiglia was cast as a flying paramedic on NBC’s sci-fi cult favorite Heroes and, currently stars on one of the network’s biggest modern hits, This Is Us, in the three-time Emmy-nominated role of devoted late father Jack Pearson.

Adam Brody (Dave Rygalski)

After playing Lane Kim’s (Keiko Agena) love interest Dave Rygalski, a well-natured nerd, on Gilmore Girls for nine episodes, Adam Brody left the series to play Seth Cohen, a well-natured nerd, on the Fox teen drama The O.C. Fortunately, the 40-year-old actor has since avoided being typecast too often, taking roles such as a hard-partying fantasy football participant in The League, a grief-stricken, alcoholic descendant of a murderous family in Ready or Not, and The Flash in George Miller’s ill-fated Justice League project.

Krysten Ritter (Lucy)

Despite her short stint on Gilmore Girls, Krysten Ritter played a crucial part in one of the juiciest story arcs of Rory’s college years as Lucy, a fellow Yalie and friend who unwittingly dated a past unrequited admirer of Rory's named Marty (Wayne Wilcox). The actress would go on to have another short-lived yet memorable role as a tragic lover of Jesse Pinkman on Breaking Bad before landing the lead on the ABC sitcom Don’t Trust the B---- in Apartment 23, followed by nabbing the title role on the gritty Netflix crime drama based on Marvel hero Jessica Jones.

Danny Pudi (Raj)

In yet another instance of short stints on Gilmore Girls, Danny Pudi starred as Raj, a fellow staffworker at the Yale Daily News, who worked alongside Rory for a total of four episodes. The actor’s more memorable college-set role would come in the form of Abed Nadir, the self-aware walking encyclopedia of sci-fi knowledge, on Dan Harmon’s much-worshipped NBC comedy Community.

Rami Malek (Andy)

One of the most acclaimed actors in the world right now is Rami Malek. The Egyptian-American is the Emmy-winning star of Mr. Robot, Oscar-winning star of Bohemian Rhapsody, and scar-faced antagonist of the latest James Bond film No Time to Die. However, this remarkable actor debuted with a brief, single episode appearance in the fourth season of Gilmore Girls as Andy, a member of Lane’s bible study group, with three lines.

Amy Sherman-Palladino (Creator)

After getting her start as part of the writing staff of various comedies and dramas, none more successful than Roseanne, Amy Sherman-Palladino made a name for herself by creating her own show that incorporated both humor and true-life drama, which turned out to be Gilmore Girls. She would later find the biggest success of her career yet in creating The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, an Amazon Prime original series that follows a Jewish woman who pursues a career in comedy in the 1960s. The series is currently in its third season has earned Sherman-Palladino five Emmys thus far.

2019 was a big and somewhat disappointing year for Krysten Ritter and her legion of fans. For one, her big Netflix drama Jessica Jones got cancelled in a parcel deal with The Punisher, though still months and months before Season 3 was released. On the flip side, Ritter made a cameo appearance in Netflix's El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie, which was a very long-awaited return. Now, the actress is gearing up to make her first TV return since her days as a Marvel superhero.

For the new project, which is currently still untitled, Krysten Ritter will be reteaming with her old boss, Don't Trust the B in Apartment 23's creator Nahnatchka Khan. Expect some Killing Eve vibes coming off of this one, as it's a dark comedy about a female serial killer. It's based off of the upcoming novel Serial Killer Anonymous by author Charles Warady.

The project, while new, has nonetheless already earned a lot of attention in Hollywood. According to Deadline, a variety of different entertainment hubs are having a bidding war to become the exclusive home for a dark new Krysten Ritter TV show. In the running are many of the usual suspects: Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, HBO Max and FX. NBCU's Universal TV will be the studio producing the project, so it's interesting that no networks, or the impending Peacock streaming service, made this shortlist.

Just because Krysten Ritter isn't portraying Jessica Jones anymore doesn't mean that all Marvel TV synergy will be absent from the serial killer dramedy. Nahnatchka Khan will be co-writing the attention-grabbing project with Angela LaManna, who was a writer and story editor on Netflix's The Punisher across both of its seasons. (All three will be executive producing.) LaManna is clearly familiar with dark material, as her Punisher work is complimented by writing up episodes of Channel Zero: Butcher Block by joining the upcoming Netflix series The Haunting of Bly Manor and Behind Her Eyes.

It's a key point in Nahnatchka Khan to begin developing another TV show with a recognizable star, as her ABC creation Fresh Off the Boat was cancelled late last year, with its final Season 6 episodes airing this spring. As well, Khan entered into an overall deal with Universal TV in the past year, and she's already landed an NBC series order for the genius comedy series Young Rock, based on the life of Dwayne Johnson, who will also shop up in episodes as well as serve as an executive producer.

Nahnatchka Khan and her company Fierce Baby Productions have another project in the running as well. Over at ABC, Khan has the L.A. private school comedy Valley Trash waiting on a positive green light, which will end up being contingent on what kind of cast is brought together.

Having made her TV debut on the oft-forgotten sitcom Whoopi, Krysten Ritter's first big noteworthy breaks were on the fanbase-friendly dramedies Veronica Mars (as Gia Goodman) and Gilmore Girls (as Lucy). Of course, she reached TV infamy in 2009 with her role as Jane Margolis in Breaking Bad, and it's baffling to think she also spent 2009 in the Jon Heder-starring horror-comedy Wake Up Dead. It was after the under-cooked black comedy Gravity that Ritter and Nahnatchka Khan combined forces for Don't Trust the B in Apartment 23, which gained a minor cult following despite getting cancelled in the midst of its second season.

Will Krysten Ritter be TV's next Dexter, or will she hew closer to Jodie Comer's Villanelle in Phoebe Waller-Bridge's Killing Eve? That show will be back for Season 3 at some point in 2020, but it's not at all clear when we'll find out something new about Ritter's new show. MAJOR SPOILER WARNING! Anyone who clicked this article knows that there are going to be big giveaways below for El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie, but this is a final warning anyway.

The day finally arrived when Breaking Bad fans could savor one more chapter of Vince Gilligan's dark crime saga via El Camino, with Aaron Paul's Jesse Pinkman at the center of this redemption-seeking epilogue. Paul's own involvement was in question back when El Camino was still a desert mirage (before real confirmations finally arrived), but fans cheered when it was clear the Netflix and AMC feature was going to follow Jesse's post-finale story. What about the other Breaking Bad characters who showed up along Jesse's way, though?

Below, we've rounded up all of El Camino's familiar faces that were oh-so-welcome for Breaking Bad fans. Considering Jesse was the main thrust, some of the appearances were expected, some were already announced, but some were legitimately pleasant and heartwarming surprises. So without further ado, bitch, let's lay out all the big Breaking Bad characters who popped up.

Mike Ehrmantraut (Jonathan Banks)

Stunningly enough, El Camino kicked off with some gorgeous scenery and some mother-effing Jonathan Banks back as Breaking Bad's Mike, as opposed to the Better Call Saul version of Mike that has captured many viewers' attention in the last four years. Jesse somewhat naively talked to Mike about getting out of the meth game, and asked Mike where he would go if he could start fresh. Mike's answer was Alaska, so there was poetic justice to be found in Jesse heading up to Alaska in El Camino's final minutes. (It might have been more shocking had Banks not already copped to his cameo.)

Skinny Pete (Charles Baker) and Badger (Matt Jones)

Without many places to turn to first, Jesse hit up his Breaking Bad BFFs Skinny Pete and Badger's house pretty soon after becoming a free man again. His toke-happy friends graciously welcomed him in and gave him everything he needed, as far as food, shower space and a bed went; Badger got a little uncouth when asking Jesse about being kept in a cage, but it was a rare misstep.

Skinny Pete proved his colors 110% by concocting his car-switcheroo plan, in which Badger amusingly got tasked with driving for hours and then hitchhiking back, while Jesse went off in a different vehicle. This situation is clearly what led to Skinny Pete, who kept the El Camino, being taken into custody and interrogated. That moment was seen in the movie's first promo, but it did not appear in El Camino itself; that said, as soon as Skinny Pete was shown, Matt Jones' Badger was a given to appear.

Old Joe (Larry Hankin)

Ever the sight for sore eyes, Larry Hankin's Old Joe showed up as a way for Jesse to try and get rid of the El Camino, though the car's LoJack security system scared him off. With his cameo first revealed via clip, the salvage yard owner always made for fun appearances on Breaking Bad, and Old Joe referenced on of Walt and Jesse's best visits during El Camino. He brought up "Magnets, bitch!" and admitted he didn't think Jesse's plan would work back in Season 5's "Live Free or Die."

Todd Alquist (Jesse Plemons)

One major surprise in El Camino's favor was the hefty amount of screentime given to Jesse Plemons' sometimes hilariously sadistic Todd. He showed up via a selection of flashbacks that opened another window into how poorly Jesse was treated by the white supremacists in general, and by the slightly more empathetic Todd in particular. He's got bean and bacon soup!

Todd's inclusion, beyond the black comedy element involving the dead housekeeper, was partly meant to draw Jesse and audiences to the large stash of money in Todd's apartment that would end up funding Jesse's escape to Alaska. It was also meant to highlight the instance where Jesse, having found Todd's gun during an excursion, could have taken his shot and possibly escaped his tortured set-up all on his own. But we all know that didn't happen.

Adam (Michael Bofshever) and Diane Pinkman (Tess Harper)

From a certain perspective, Jesse's parents did all the things that any parent might do if their child was caught up in the heavy drug game. But from the Breaking Bad fan's perspective, Jesse's mother and father were a pair of chumps who never believed in Jesse hard enough, and they definitely fell into that camp in El Camino.

First appearing on the news to plead with Jesse to turn himself in, Adam and Diana Pinkman later showed up again when Jesse called and fooled them into leaving home so that he could sneak inside and get a pair of guns. Fun fact: Jesse's mom didn't have a name on Breaking Bad, so El Camino is the first time we've seen "Diane" to be her name. Also, Jesse's brother Jake wasn't around.

Ed the Disappearer (Robert Forster)

Sparsely used in Breaking Bad for understandably reasons, Robert Forster's Ed Galbraith was another one of the familiar faces that Jesse had to hit up in his desperate attempt to leave his old life behind. Jesse used process of elimination to determine which vacuum repair shop Ed worked at, and then he unwisely showed up in person, putting Ed on edge. (As if any of Ed's emotions could be read on that face.) Though Jesse was initially short the money he needed to change his identity, he eventually found it all, and Ed did the honor of driving Jesse all the way to Alaska.

Kenny (Kevin Rankin)

An actor who excels at playing shitbirds on TV, Kevin Rankin showed up in the latter half of El Camino to reprise his role of Kenny, the second-in-command within Uncle Jack's clan of neo-Nazis. In the movie, he exploited the confined Jesse in front of Neil, the Kandy Welding guy, in showing how strong the tethered system that Jesse would be strapped to. It was a disturbing moment, but made all the better by knowing Kenny is dead and gone in the current timeline.

Walter White (Bryan Cranston)

After dropping multiple mentions of "White" and "Heisenberg" on the radio and TV news reports, with some going into Jesse and Walt's former partnership, El Camino finally delivered on that most epic of epic cameos: Bryan Cranston's Walter White, who was confirmed to have died at the massacre that ended Season 5. It happens very late in the film, too, just before the story shifts to Alaska.

In the flashback, which was set during Season 2, Jesse and Walt are shown going to eat breakfast together at a hotel, where Jesse is in love the salad bar, including the pineapples. Walt, whose cough is pretty constant, talks to Jesse about going to college for business and marketing, telling him he'd be a whiz, and even self-awarely brings up that he's just making conversation. (That's about all one could have expected from this cameo, after all.) Depressingly, the scene ends with Walt telling Jesse that he was lucky because he didn't have to wait his entire life to do something special. It was masterful, and I wanted more.

Jane Margolis (Krysten Ritter)

While I might have had this surprise in the very back of my mind, I truly didn't expect to get a brand-new appearance from Breaking Bad's Jane Margolis, Jesse's doomed girlfriend as portrayed by Krysten Ritter. Her Season 2 death – in which Walt looked on, horrified, as she choked to death on her own vomit – was a major catalyst for several different big moments in Jesse and Walt's lives, particularly when Walt straight-up confessed to his lack of action while she died.

Hearts no doubt fluttered when Jesse was fairly obviously talking to Jane on the phone just before Bryan Cranston's cameo, and then in the very end, when Jesse was driving away to his new life in snowy Alaska, Krysten Ritter appeared in the car with him. And suddenly, viewers were transported back to a time when Jane and Jesse were having an oddly placed conversation on the side of the road. There, Jane expressed the notion that it's always better to make decisions for oneself than to let the universe make them. And then that's all she wrote.

Honorable Mention: Brock Cantillo (Ian Posada)

Though the Breaking Bad character of Brock Cantillo didn't show up in El Camino in person, given the actor would be years older than his younger self, Vince Gilligan did not leave him out of the narrative altogether. For one, viewers got to see the picture that the white supremacists tacked up as his motivation to keep cooking. But also, one of Jesse's final acts as "Jesse Pinkman" was to have Ed deliver a letter to Brock, which presumably explained some things about why life got so different for the young boy. Here's hoping he's having a good life as well.

While it may not answer all of our big questions, El Camino: A Breaking Bad can find it streaming now on Netflix, which is also where fans can relive all five seasons of Breaking Bad, and the first three seasons of Better Call Saul. And don't forget that it's also screening in a limited selection of theaters across the country, so be sure to check your local listings.

Jessica Jones' third season fell victim to one of the most uncomfortable and undesirable situations possible in the world of television and streaming. The Krysten Ritter-led MCU drama was still either months away from returning to Netflix whenever news of Iron Fist's cancellation hit, and the body-slamming heroine's own fate was sealed back in February. Now there's bad news for anyone trumpeting the call for a new season elsewhere: Ritter is kinda glad it's all over now.

While many other stars from Netflix's eradicated MCU corner have been optimistically vocal about making superheroic returns in the future – or super-villainous, in the case of Daredevil's Vincent D'Onofrio – here's what Krysten Ritter had to say when asked about potentially reprising the role of the hard-drinking P.I.

Now, to be sure, Krysten Ritter hasn't gone so far as to rip up and burn a Jessica Jones Season 4 contract. Things aren't that extreme at the moment. But barring a most unexpectedly unique series revival for J.J., it's likely time for fans to come to accept that Ritter's already iconic take on the emotionally brusque character has likely been sealed and stored away for posterity.

For anyone paying attention to the way things were going for Netflix and the MCU, both behind the scenes and from a critical standpoint, Krysten Ritter's words to TVLine might not be all THAT surprising. Though Daredevil Season 3 was a noteworthy high point for the franchise – and I was personally quite invested in The Punisher's second season – the Defenders' standalone seasons haven't exactly taken the world by storm, and each show's streaming audience reportedly dipped hard between seasons.

Netflix's Daredevil Just Got Even More Bad News

Jessica Jones itself has suffered some of the biggest growing pains of all, relatively speaking. As opposed to Iron Fist, whose second season improved upon its highly panned freshman outing, Jessica Jones started off rather brilliantly thanks to Krysten Ritter's arc opposite David Tennant's gripping villain Kilgrave, and couldn't find the same footing after he surprisingly got killed off. (One of the worst decisions any of these shows made, in my opinion.)

As far as Rotten Tomatoes goes, Season 2 (82%) wasn't nearly as acclaimed as the first season (94%), and Season 3 is currently sitting at 71%, which is a pretty big dip. Reviews were middling at best for Season 3, with critics calling the show out for putting Jessica Jones in the backseat while allowing other characters like Trish, Malcolm and Hogarth to get bigger slices of the narrative. The new villain, played by Russian Doll's Jeremy Bobb, didn't do all that much to move the needle, either.

Still, critical opinions are just that, and these days, the fans can sometimes have the biggest voices of all. So I have a suspicion that if there's any chance for Krysten Ritter to ever return to Jessica Jones for future NYC adventures, it will have to be because the show, character and actress' fanbases all lovingly demanded it to be so.

Who knows? Ritter wouldn't need to commit to a full season of 13 or more TV episodes, or even a movie. She could just pose for a poster meant to be used in the background for Hulu's upcoming Ghost Rider TV show with Gabriel Luna, and that would be a fantastic treat for viewers to catch. Rights issues would likely stop that from happening just yet, and it's not even clear if this Ghost Rider will be connected to the character's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. arc, but maybe the future will clear things up.

While waiting to hear what new projects Krysten Ritter will dive into soon – perhaps more TV directing? – all three seasons of Jessica Jones are currently available to watch right now on Netflix.

Netflix just broke up with Marvel, or at least with its Marvel superhero dramas. Iron Fist, Luke Cage, and Daredevil were just followed by The Punisher and Jessica Jones. Jessica Jones will still air its third season on Netflix, but it was confirmed to be the final season. At the same time, Netflix confirmed that The Punisher will not return for Season 3 on the streamer.

Jon Bernthal stars as Frank Castle on The Punisher, with Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones. Both stars posted to social media after news spread that their shows would not be renewed by Netflix.

Here's how Jon Bernthal paid tribute to Marvel Comics' war veteran-turned-avenging vigilante Frank Castle, who first debuted in Daredevil Season 2 before getting his own spinoff in The Punisher:

The Punisher Season 2 just dropped on Netflix on January 18, and both fans and Jon Bernthal were hoping to continue the story in Season 3. The official show account also addressed the cancellation:

On a more positive note, Marvel Television boss Jeph Loeb posted a letter on Marvel.com to all the fans, from everyone at Marvel TV. The letter ended on this hopeful note:

How they get back up, to be continued? Jeph Loeb has made it clear that this was Netflix's decision, and not something that Marvel TV wanted. It also definitely sounds like there's more to come for at least some of the cancelled shows -- possibly on Disney+ once that streamer gets up and running at the end of 2019. (Disney owns Marvel Entertainment.) Of the five cancelled shows, it sounds like four are contractually tied up for a couple of years, but The Punisher could theoretically go straight into Season 3 production on Disney+ or Hulu or wherever else.

So it sounds like we're saying goodbye for now, but probably not forever. As we wait to see what happens from here, keep up with everything that's now airing on TV with our 2019 midseason premiere schedule.

While the Marvel Cinematic Universe is in chaos following the shocking events of Avengers: Infinity War, work on the small screen is still chugging along. Luke Cage will premiere its second season in just a few weeks, and fans were recently treated to Season 2 of Jessica Jones. The latter stars actress Krysten Ritter as the title character, who has battled with issues of PTSD, alcoholism, and abandonment throughout the show's first two seasons. Ritter recently revealed what she's hoping for Jessica during her third run on Netflix, saying:

Krysten Ritter certainly has some high hopes for her signature character, and you can't blame her. Between Jessica Jones and The Defenders, Ritter has been playing the private investigator for years. Considering how much good Jessica tries to do, she certainly deserves some peace.

Hardcore fans of Jessica Jones shouldn't be too surprised by Krysten Ritter's comments to ComicBook.com. Part of what makes Jessica such a great character is how clearly flawed she is. While superheroes aren't typically the most grounded of protagonists, Jessica's personal demons made her accessible to audiences. But now that we've seen her mostly miserable for years, perhaps the time has come for Jessica to truly love herself.

While a happy and cheery Jessica isn't what anyone is hoping for, we did get a glimpse of her softer side toward the end of Season 2. She cut ties with both Malcolm and Trish, finding a family in her new neighbor and his son. And with her feelings of resentment and loss with her mother finally worked through, Jess might be able to finally move on.

One possible way that Jessica Jones can bring its protagonist forward it by having its title character finally address her substance abuse issues. Jessica is an unapologetic alcoholic during the series, although she's able to function and focus when it comes down to it. This began as a coping method for the crippling PTSD Jessica had due to Kilgrave's abuse. While she's mostly managed to gain independence from the Purple Man, Jessica Jones has never given any indication that its protagonist was going to change her drinking habits.

Overall, the pressure is on for Jessica Jones to deliver for its third season. While the original season is some of Marvel's best small screen content, the second season wasn't quite as popular or acclaimed. Plenty of interesting seeds have been planned for future plot points, including Trish's long awaited transformation into Hellcat.

It's an exciting time for fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While moviegoers are still reeling from Ryan Coogler's record breaking Black Panther, there is also new content coming to the small screen. Season 2 of Jessica Jones has finally arrived after nearly two years, bringing everyone's favorite alcoholic private investigator back for a sophomore adventure in Marvel's New York City. Fans have been eager to return to the noir-inspired world of the series, and anticipation reached a fever pitch when the first trailer revealed the return of David Tennant's villainous Kilgrave. I recently had the chance to speak with showrunner Melissa Rosenberg, and she told me exactly why Kilgrave was brought back into the show's narrative:

Melissa Rosenberg makes an excellent point, and proves why Jessica Jones is such a standout in Marvel's small screen catalogue. The series doesn't pander to fan theories or expectations, instead focusing on an emotionally driven plot. Kilgrave returns in Season 2 because, in many ways, he never really left.

Season 1 of Jessica Jones was very much focused on the character's psyche, and the trauma she suffered at the hands of David Tennant's Kilgrave. Jessica had pretty severe PTSD from her time being mind controlled and sexually assaulted by the villain. Kilgrave was the enemy of Season 1, and we saw as Jessica slowly broke herself free from his influence, and finally ended the conflict by snapping his neck in their final battle.

But just because Jessica was able to free the world of Kilgrave's physical presence, he still has the ability to cause anguish with Jessica and the countless others that he influenced with his abilities. There was even a Kilgrave support group in the show's first season, so it stands to reason that Jessica would be scarred from her experience. After all, she suffered a great deal.

In our conversation, Melissa Rosenberg also expressed her eagerness to work with David Tennant again, and how she looked out for organic and logical reasons why he might pop back up.

This is yet another reason why fans should be eager to binge watch the second season of Jessica Jones. Plus, it explains why we haven't been promised any appearances by the other members of The Defenders. They'll only pop up if it actually makes sense for the narrative.

Jessica Jones will finally return for Season 2 on March 8th, over two years after the release of the first season. While fans of the alcoholic private investigator got to see her pop up for a major arc in The Defenders, they're eager to once again return to the film noir inspired series for its sophomore season. I recently had the chance to speak with Jessica herself, actress Krysten Ritter. When asked how Season 2 is different from the first go, she told me:

It looks like Jessica Jones is still very much focused on the psyche of its title character, and fans will get a closer look into what makes the unwilling hero tick. Jessica is trying to get her life together after fighting both Kilgrave and The Hand, although that's easier said than done.

Season 1 of Jessica Jones was definitely focused on the character's mental anguish. The superpowered P.I. attempted to unpack her trauma surrounding Kilgrave's mind control and sexual abuse, and save both she and her loved ones from his deadly influence.

Krysten Ritter's comments indicate that Season 2 will be an especially emotional one for her signature character. As shown in the trailer, the show's second season will focus on the mysterious circumstances surrounding the car crash that killed Jessica's family, and the experiments that granted her powers. With Jessica working out her childhood abandonment issues and continuing to mourn her family, it's definitely going to be an emotional sophomore run for the vigilante.

In my same conversation with Krysten Ritter, she also revealed how filming Season 2 was different from her work on The Defenders. Ritter actually filmed both projects to back, playing Jessica Jones for 12 months straight.

Sounds like Krysten Ritter did really enjoy herself while working alongside the other Netflix heroes in The Defenders. And while filming Jessica Jones Season 2 was way more work for the Breaking Bad alum, it allowed her to truly focus on her flawed and fascinating Marvel character.
