The Walking Dead might have ended back in 2022, but the universe continues to expand thanks to its spinoffs. Chief among them is Dead City which follows Maggie and Negan in New York City (streaming with a Netflix subscription). Season 3 is coming in July, and both Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Lauren Cohan seem thrilled about the major changes coming to their characters' dynamic. Let's break it all down.

After its premiere, some fans were surprised by how much they enjoyed The Walking Dead: Dead City. On top of providing a new adventure in the apocalypse, the show is also emotionally impactful thanks to Maggie's history with Negan, who famously killed her husband Glenn. During an interview with EW, Morgan confirmed that they're no longer going to be at odds in Season 3, saying:

That's certainly going to be a new color for Dead City's pair of protagonists. Their relationship is a fascinating one, and we've watched as Maggie has tried to kill Negan, betray him, and eventually become his ally. Season 3 will show them finally moving on from the violence of their shared history, and it should be fascinating to see how that changes the action of the Walking Dead spinoff.

In the same interview, Maggie actress Lauren Cohan also spoke about the change in her relationship with Negan in the third season of Dead City. In her words:

This shift of dynamic is just one reason why I can't wait to see what happens when The Walking Dead: Dead City returns to the small screen in July. Then there's the cliffhanger about Hershel, who has remained in New York with The Dama instead of staying with his own mother. Plus there's the ongoing conflict with New Babylon. Clearly there are plenty of narrative threads to pull from.

The Walking Dead: Dead City will return to AMC on July 26th as part of the 2026 TV schedule. We'll just have to see how well Negan and Maggie work together now that they're leaving their history in the past.

With James Gunn’s Superman set to kick off a new live-action DC Universe, with Creature Commandos having set the animated foundation, any and all hopes of seeing Jeffrey Dean Morgan reprising the role of Thomas Wayne have been vanquished. Which remains disappointing, especially given Zack Snyder’s plans to adapt the revered “Flashpoint” storyline, with Morgan donning a revised cape and cowl as Batman. Even hearing the Walking Dead actor reflecting on it now gets me riled up.

Morgan is currently promoting AMC’s latest zombie spinoff The Walking Dead: Dead City, with the second season hitting the 2025 TV schedule in early May. But his deadly anti-hero Negan wasn’t the only comic book character on tap for an interview with him and co-star Lauren Cohan shared on Den Of Geek’s TikTok. When asked if Snyder cast them as Thomas and Martha Wayne as a jokey TWD reference, JDM pointed out that he wasn’t in that world yet. In his words:

“Unfortunately” is underplaying things considerably, especially with the idea that Snyder already had some goalposts in mind for how he wanted to adapt Flashpoint’s timeline-changing narrative. It’d be one thing if that was just a fleeting pipe dream of an idea in Snyder’s brain when casting Jeffrey Dean Morgan for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

But we were closer than ever to seeing Geoff Johns and Andy Kubert's timeline-shifting arc come to life, with Justice League setting up the pieces, and Morgan seemingly down to reprise the role of Thomas Wayne in whichever capacity was landed on. Somehow, though, amidst all the behind-the-scenes turmoil over Justice League's production and Ezra Miller's controversies, we only ever got Andy Muschietti's The Flash movie in its place.

Maybe one day Zack Snyder will turn his "Flashpoint" ideas into a novelized narrative, or even a storyboarded comic or something. Even an audiobook would work, so long as Morgan returned to voice Big Papa Batman.

Circling back to the topic of sharing the screen with Lauren Cohan, Jeffrey Dean Morgan said that the Batman v Superman casting may have been the catalyst that inspired The Walking Dead's showrunner to reach out when casting Negan. As he put it:

All things considered, Morgan still has quite a few years left to go before he would be wildly out of place to play Thomas Wayne age-wise. So here's hoping James Gunn doubles down on the idea of telling Elseworlds tales, and takes that opportunity to give "Flashpoint" another go.

AMC's massive hit The Walking Dead established earlier on that anything could happen at any time, including the worst. Still, a number of characters made it quite a long time. While none of the cast members on the show appeared in all 177 episodes of the show, here are the actors who appeared in the most episodes of The Walking Dead. 

Norman Reedus (175 Episodes)

Daryl Dixon, played by Norman Reedus, was a fan favorite almost from the very beginning, and by the end of the show, he was hands down the most popular character. Reedus was amazing as the gruff, tough-as-nails survivor and he appeared in more episodes than any other actor, 175 in total. He also returned in the follow-up show The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon.

Melissa McBride (174 Episodes)

The character on The Walking Dead that had the most incredible character arc has to be Carol played by Melissa McBride. Carol was a fairly meek housewife to an abusive husband. She didn't stay the way and by the end of the show's run, and McBride's 175 episodes, she was someone you definitely wanted to have on your side against the zombies. 

Lauren Cohan (144 Episodes)

It's hard to believe that viewers didn't meet Maggie Greene Rhee until the second season when the survivors reached the farm. Still, actress Lauren Cohan appeared in the third-most episodes by the end, 144 in total. Though she had one of the most tragic story arcs, she comes out on top at the very end, proving how tough she really was.  

Christian Serratos (130 Episodes)

Fans of The Walking Dead aren't introduced to Rosalita, played by Christian Serratos, until Season 4 and Serratos didn't become a main cast member until the following season. From then on though, she becomes a key survivor right up until the very end when she becomes the final victim of the zombies on the show, after 130 episodes.

Josh McDermitt (130 Episodes)

Josh McDermitt's character, Eugene, is one of the most interesting characters on the show. At first, he's weak, selfish, and spineless, but he eventually grows into one of the most capable survivors on the show, using his smarts to help out in many ways. 

Danai Gurira (126 Episodes)

From the first time viewers see Michonne, played by Danai Gurira, until the end of the show, she was among the most beloved and awesome characters. Though she wasn't introduced until the end of Season 2, Gurira appeared in 126 episodes over the final 10 seasons. And she wasn't someone you ever wanted to mess with.

Seth Gilliam (125 Episodes)

Former cast member of The Wire Seth Gilliam plays one of the more controversial characters, the priest Gabriel Stokes. Though he didn't join the show until Season 5, he played a huge role, both good and bad, with the survivors over the final seven seasons. 

Andrew Lincoln (121 Episodes)

If there is a main character of The Walking Dead, at least in the first nine seasons, it's Rick Grimes, played by Andrew Lincoln. He's the de facto leader at almost every point in the show, and the father of two kids. At the end of Season 9 Grimes disappears and at the end of Season 11 it's revealed he's still alive, but only a little is revealed about where he ends up until the follow-up show, The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live.

Ross Marquand (116 Episodes)

Audiences first meet Ross Marquand's character Aaron when he recruits the survivors to join the community he's a part of in Alexandria. From Season 5, when he is introduced, until the end of the show, Aaron is a key character who appeared in a total of 116 episodes. 

Chandler Riggs (109 Episodes)

Carl Grimes was, other than his infant sister, the youngest member of the group of main survivors. Rick's son, played by Chandler Riggs, was a key character in both the TV and in the comic books, though his run on the show ended before the character's arc is over in the comic books. Riggs left the show in dramatic fashion after 109 episodes to attend college. 

Jeffrey Dean Morgan (95 Episodes)

The Walking Dead became known for introducing a big baddie in every season, but no one was ready for Negan, played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan. As the leader of The Saviors, Negan is absolutely brutal, and within minutes of meeting him, he commits the two most horrific murders in the show's entire history. His character arc is fascinating, however, and it meant he lasted 95 episodes, right up until the end. 

Alanna Masterson (87 Episodes)

Tara Chambler, played by actress Alanna Masterson, starts out as a follower of the antagonist known as The Governor but soon realizes he's a bad person. During the attack on the prison by the survivors, Tara switches sides and ends up an important member of the survivors before she is attacked and killed in Season 9, after appearing in 87 episodes. 

Khary Payton (83 Episodes)

Khary Payton introduction as King Ezekiel in the seventh season was a big moment. Not only did was it a dramatic shot, with him sitting with his tiger, but it brought in a character that would become a key player over the next 83 episodes. 

Steven Yeun (81 Episodes)

The Walking Dead was famous for the brutal deaths of some of its most beloved characters and at the top of that list is Glenn's horrifying death at the hands of Nega in the Season 7 premiere. It was hard to stomach, and even harder to take, emotionally. Actor Steven Yeun's character was a fan favorite and after 81 episodes, suddenly he was gone. 

Cooper Andrews (81 Episodes)

Actor Cooper Andrews' character Jerry is the kind of character everyone loves. He's a bit of a goof, but dedicated and loyal to his people, and very capable. Though the character wasn't introduced until Season 8 and wasn't a main cast member until 10, Andrews still appeared in 81 episodes. 

Sonequa Martin-Green (70 Episodes)

Sasha, played by Sonequa Martin-Green, who appeared in 70 episodes was a character created for the show, rather than in the comic book from which The Walking Dead was adapted. Still, Sasha becomes an incredibly important character from Season 3 when we meet her until her heroic death at the end of Season 8.

Eleanor Matsuura (58 Episodes)

Eleanor Matsuura, who plays Yumiko, is a late joiner to the cast, not appearing until the 9th Season. Still, she proves her worth quickly and appears in almost every episode from there out, a total of 58. 

Nadia Hilker (56 Episodes)

One of the new characters introduced in Season 9 is Magna, played by actress Nadia Hilker. She's a tough customer who seemingly trusts very few people, and who can blame her after surviving the zombie apocalypse for as long as she has. She also survives the final battle in Alexandria at the of Season 11 and is seen living happily with her girlfriend, Yumiko, after 56 episodes on the show. 

Lauren Ridloff (56 Episodes)

Along with Magna and Yumiko, Lauren Ridloff's character Connie is a tough survivor who joined the show in Season 9. Like those characters Connie appears in most of the final three seasons, a total of 56 episodes. 

Callan McAuliffe (55 Episodes)

 Alden, played by Callan McAuliffe, was a member of the brutal Saviors when viewers met him, but he eventually switches sides and teams up with the Hilltop Community led by Maggie. In all, he ended up in most of the final shows in the final 4 seasons, a total of 55 episodes. 

Cassady McClincy Zhang (54 Episodes)

Lydia is a character who is quite different in the show than she is in the comics, mostly due to the changed story arc of her love interest in the books, Carl Grimes. In the show, she is introduced in Season 9 when she is taken captive by Michonne and Daryl. She ends the series alive, 54 episodes later. She was played by Cassady McClincy Zhang.

Cailey Fleming (53 Episodes)

The youngest member of the main cast was Cailey Fleming, who played the older Judith Grimes in seasons 10 and 11, a total of 53 episodes. Of course, the character appears in way more episodes going back to the very beginnings of the show, but for years, she was a baby, presumably played by different people and definitely not played by Fleming.

Lennie James (52 Episodes)

Morgan, played by Lennie James, is one of the earliest characters viewers meet in the show, though he remains an enigma and only occasionally appeared in the early days. James became a main character in Season 6, and in total appeared in 52 episodes over the first 8 seasons of the show before he leaves the group. The character became the protagonist in the first spinoff, Fear The Walking Dead. 

Emily Kinney (50 Episodes)

Emily Kinney played Beth Greene in 50 episodes of The Walking Dead. She was Herschel's daughter and Maggie's half-sister. She was introduced on the show when Rick and the rest of the survivors got to the Greene farm. Initially, Kinney had a much smaller role than those of her family members, but by Season 4 she had become a full-time cast member. It wasn't for long though, as Beth was killed by Dawn in one heck of a disastrous moment that also saw Daryl kill Dawn. 

Katelyn Nacon (50 Episodes)

The second-to-last episode of Season 10 of The Walking Dead is a brutal one. The mysterious character called Alpha proves to be a brutal baddie when it's revealed that her people, The Whispers, have killed a number of people, including Enid, played by Katelyn Nacon. Nacon portrayed Enid in 50 episodes, starting in Season 5. 

Tom Payne (45 Episodes)

The Hilltop Community becomes one of the most important settlements in the post-apocalyptic world and viewers of the show, and the core survivors, are introduced to it by Paul "Jesus" Rovia, who was played by Tom Payne for 45 episodes, starting in Season 7. Jesus is both a spy and an ambassador of sorts for the Hilltop folks, who ends up recruiting and fighting with Rick and the others against The Saviors. Sadly, he doesn't make it past Season 9 when he is killed by The Whisperers. 

Michael Cudlitz (38 Episodes)

What can we say about Abraham Ford? Played by the great Michael Cudlitz who first found major fame on TV as a member of the cast of Band of Brothers, Abraham was a fan favorite from the first time viewers met him in Season 4. That made his death in the Season 7 premiere, after starring in 38 Episodes, at the hands of Negan incredibly heartbreaking. 

Scott Wilson (38 Episodes)

Everyone loves their grandfather and in a way, that's who Scott Wilson's character Herschel Greene represented on the show. The patriarch of Maggie and Beth's family, Herschel is tough, he's fair, and he's righteous. Introduced on the farm in Season 2, Herschel is killed by The Governor in Season 4, after appearing in 38 episodes. 

Austin Amelio (36 Episodes)

Dwight, played by Austin Amelio, always seemed like a reluctant, if brutal, member of Negan's group, The Saviors. With his badly scarred face, he was a standout character for 36 episodes before Amelio left The Walking Dead to join the spinoff Fear The Walking Dead. 

Kerry Cahill (36 Episodes)

For a character that appeared in 36 Episodes of the show, Dianne, played by Kerry Cahill, is the least developed on this list. Cahill is first seen in The Kingdom, playing one of the community's best soldiers, a skill she later takes to the Hilltop Community. For the rest of the series, she is part of many battles, but we never learn too much about her. 

Sarah Wayne Callies (35 Episodes)

Sarah Wayne Callies plays Lori Grimes, Rick's wife, and mother to Carl and Judith. In the first three seasons, she's one of the most important characters on the show and gets herself stuck in a love triangle between Rick, whom she believed was dead, and Rick's best friend, Shane Walsh (Jon Bernthal). During Season 3, Lori is forced to give birth to Judith via C-section, and without proper medical facilities, the procedure kills her in one of the hardest moments of the show to watch. In total, Callies appeared in 35 episodes.

Laurie Holden (35 Episodes)

Actor Laurie Holden is one of the original cast members of the show, playing Andrea from the earliest episodes. At the end of Season 2, she gets separated from the rest of the survivors at the farm and is saved by Michonne. Both end up at Woodbury with The Governor, who Andrea grows close to. Trusting him was a mistake as she is eventually taken prisoner by him which leads to her death at the hands of a walker towards the end of Season 3 after 35 appearances.

After six episodes, The Walking Dead’s latest spinoff wrapped up its initial arc in a way that obviously paved the way for the upcoming second season, whose renewal was revealed timed to this year’s Comic-Con. “Doma Smo,” a Croatian phrase meaning “We are home,” delivered temporary conclusions for Lauren Cohan’s Maggie and Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s Negan that offered up more surprises than I expected for a season that has retread a lot of the same storytelling ground as the flagship drama. Let’s take a closer look at the finale's biggest surprises below. 

A New Reference To Maggie’s Mom Josephine Greene

Within the Season 2 timeline of The Walking Dead, Maggie’s birth mother Josephine Greene was alluded to largely through photographs within the family home, with Hershel confirming her fate in the episode “Judge, Jury Executioner,” without further detail. Bafflingly enough, seeing a Macy’s storyfront sparks Maggie to share a childhood tale with Negan that started off with a super-rare instance of the late matriarch’s existence, even if the story itself was technically way more about Maggie’s own childhood dreams. Here’s the story, which was perhaps unfortunately interrupted by opposing forces driving by: 

Now we know that Josephine Greene died from some kind of sickness that had her bedridden long enough for Maggie to remember it being a time for stories. Given the way Hershel kept his second wife cooped up with others inside his barn after everyone went the way of the walker, I’m still not sure which woman had it worse. 

Negan And Maggie Finally Brawled, Though Not For Long Enough 

Over six years have passed in real-world time since Negan arrived and shattered Glenn’s skull with Lucille, and it’s been even longer within the fictional timeline, so seeing him in a flat-out brawl with Maggie has been a long time coming no matter how you look at it. And while The Walking Dead: Dead City obviously couldn’t spend a fourth or more of its finale dedicated squarely to cathartic fisticuffs, Negan and Maggie’s fight sequence was indeed fun and badass enough to make me wish that the sequel series had built in an episode that was one long and brutal clash. 

That big drop helped put it over, too, even if it wasn’t quite on the level of a hardcore WWE match from the late ‘90s. If Negan would have landed a flying elbow drop on Maggie from that height (which would potentially break her neck clean off of her body), it would have been the greatest TWD moment that could ever exist. Here’s hoping for a longer Round 2 next season, and for Negan to start wearing "Macho Man" Randy Savage's color scheme.

Maggie Came Out Victorious Only To Feel And Be Treated Like A Shitty Mom 

Throughout the season, it’s been clear that Maggie’s hunt for Hershel was more complicated than just her being a worried mother. But when they finally came eye to eye again during the ep, even I was shocked by how palpable the lack of warmth and love was between them, with Hershel offering up pure facial disgust at the idea of being traded back to his mom for the dude who slaughtered his dad. And their conversation was all the more troubling, as he revealed that in the years prior to Dead City’s timeline, that Maggie was in a constant state of worried aggression over the idea that Negan might show up again, enough so that it strained their relationship to a possible breaking point. It also didn’t help that Hershel voiced his preference for being the Croat’s prisoner rather than returning back to their community where risks were high and supplies were in short supply.

So for all that fans have been watching this season with the hopes that Maggie would be reunited with Hershel, the actual reality is that they’ve evolved into something more jagged than the mother-son combo we were used to. I mean, the happiest Maggie may have looked all season was when delivering the aforementioned Santa Claus story, and that was fucking depressing in and of itself. This woman needs a victory in every which way, including loose.

Negan Was Being Vetted For Leadership By A New Loony Antagonist 

The Negan twists kept on coming in “Doma Smo,” after previous reveals about his past with The Croat, as well the latter’s reason for kidnapping Hershel being solely to force Maggie into tracking the elusive Negan down. But the former Savior isn’t the head honcho in this violent organization either, and answers to the beck and call of The Dama, as portrayed with off-kilter lunacy by Ozark’s Lisa Emery. And what is her deal? Why, she’s heard a lot of stories about how fucked up Negan used to be in his leather-wearing heyday, as well as how quickly he can return to that unabashedly horrifying behavior when need be. 

The Dama wants to put those particular skills to work going forward, as she is anticipating war on the horizon over resources that remain unique to the island. Just such a future was hinted at during Marshal Perlie’s debriefing in New Babylon, when he was asked quite dramatically about “THE METHANE!” And so who better to have leading a charge than the most psychotic dude in the building? Only Negan’s not really that guy anymore, which is going to no doubt lead to some ethical dilemmas in Season 2.

Hershel Totally Had One Of His Toes Cut Off

The Dama already came off as a bit mentally untethered during her sit-down with Negan, but then went ahead and pulled out an arrow pointing to her face with a picture of a screw next to a picture of a ball. Or, more literally, she teased Negan with the “keys to the kingdom,” and then had him unlock a container with another box inside that had a severed toe in it, as if it were a piece of squishy jewelry. I dunno the sanest way to give someone a toe, but that’s not it.

Anyway, The Dama revealed she had one of Hershel’s toes removed (and then presumably had legit medical workers fix him up), but not because she wanted to torture the kid to get information out, which was precisely the kind of act that caused Negan to cut ties with The Croat. No, she permanently disfigured Hershel simply as a message telling Negan not to screw things up, knowing that threatening the boy would strike a chord with Negan’s particular sense of protectiveness. To put it another way, she cut off Hershel’s toe fully keeping in mind that she might need to have him kidnapped again in the near future. That’s some dark shit, and speaks even more to the teen’s situation that he would have preferred staying there than going back with Maggie. The fact that he drew The Dama’s portrait was a little overboard, but intriguing in a Stockholm syndrome kind of way.

Ginny Seemed To Have Had Zero Impact On The Main Story 

Mirroring Maggie and Hershel’s awkward reunion was Ginny and Negan’s, as she offered up high emotions and even spoken words, only to be met with his disappointment, anger, and the admission that he’s the one who killed her father. At which point she was then taken back to mainland civilization by Marshal Perlie, even more traumatized than she was when she first left for Manhattan. And no fault to Mahina Napoleon’s expressive performance, but I was rather surprised that her entire arc to this point didn’t functionally impact the core narrative, and essentially little would change if she were taken out completely. 

Obviously, Ginny’s story adds a layer to where Negan’s life was at going into Dead City’s timeline, but considering we found out he shipped his actual wife and child off to live without him, I never really felt like they had a parent-child bond going. Which worked out, with Negan breaking her heart by saying he was only tracking her to begin with because of what he’d done, despite any paternal feelings he might have sprouted for her during the time together. But take all of that out, and I don’t think Negan’s story would have suffered at all. Here’s hoping the next six episodes change that up, presumably with Ginny being on New Babylon’s side in the impending war. 

Now the wait is on for Season 2, which may or may not be impacted by the recent WGA writers strike and the SAG-AFTRA actors strike. When The Walking Dead kicked off its latest spinoff Dead City, fans had many narrative-based questions about Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s Negan and Lauren Cohan’s Maggie, thanks in part to the big time jump that followed the flagship series’ finale. One of the biggest mysteries revolved around the current status of Negan’s wife Annie, as portrayed by Medina Senghore, as well as their previously unnamed child. Now we finally have an answer to the “What up with Annie?” question, and — ding, ding! — anyone who expected the answer to be rather unfairly dour and depressing gets a prize. (Please note that the prize is Ginny's filthy stuffed dinosaur.)

The latest episode of The Walking Dead: Dead City gave fans a bit more of the origins of Negan and Ginny’s relationship, while also showcasing The Croat’s baffling MMA octagon zombie death-match challenge that was clearly inspired in part by Saw. But it was during one of the more quiet moments in “People Are a Resource” where JDM’s ever-deadly quasi-villain opened up about his family life, or lack thereof, after previously dismissing Maggie’s questions about it. And I can't tell if it's because of mishandled writing, or if the point was to make Negan look like a moron in front of Maggie, but it was a rather frustrating set of reveals. Here’s how he explained it: 

Obviously that story wasn't going to revolve around Annie and their kid stumbling across a literal Garden of Eden where they could feel safe and confident that no danger would ever befall them again, but damn, y'all. Couldn't even get any "We were so happy that..." anecdotes before hearing about all the bad shit that happened. 

In any case, let’s break down the biggest takeaways from that harsh anecdote. 

• Negan and Annie's kid is apparently named Joshua.

Negan’s story immediately started off with a big reveal, as we finally learned the name of his kid, though clearly with as little post-apocalyptic fanfare as humanly possible. No clues into why the li’l dude’s name is Joshua, and whether that has any specific significance to Annie’s past, or if it was a purely random choice. (Because if it was related to Negan’s past, we’d have already heard 14 stories about it by now.) 

• Annie Was Severely Beaten And Robbed

While I’m certainly happy viewers didn’t have to actually witness this ordeal (at least not yet), it’s a damned shame that our first big update about Annie centers on the idea that she was beaten so badly after being robbed that she couldn’t make it back home to Negan. That can’t have been an easy situation for the kid to deal with, either, so I guess I’m doubly glad that Negan didn’t share that part in his story.

• Annie’s Attackers Were The New Babylon Marshals That Negan Is Wanted For Killing

Okay, so JDM’s character didn’t come right out and say all of the above, but it didn’t take much dot-connecting to piece things together, especially when his Wanted poster was actually brought out and read aloud later in the Dead City ep. So the murders that Gaius Charles’ Perlie Armstrong was hunting Negan down for concerned the men that beat and robbed Annie, assuming Negan was telling the truth when talking to Maggie. Considering most of the men were marshals, with one being a magistrate, that just paints the New Babylon Federation in an even darker light. 

By all means, I get that this isn’t highly unlikely or anything, especially in the TWD Universe, but gawdamn. The Commonwealth at least looked like a normal slice of life for a little while before its various corruptions surfaced. At this point, there’s not even a promise of structure before a safe haven is revealed to be a nightmare hive run by monsters. Obviously this wasn’t the first sign of the monstrousness, but I digress. 

• Negan Sent His Family To Missouri And Lied About Following Them

Okay, I'm at a total loss here. Negan has been presenting himself as an okay guy, and not as big of a demon as The Croat, but even when we remove the whole "murdering Abraham and Glenn in cold blood" thing, and all the stuff that happened at the Sanctuary, this anecdote further proves that this guy is a mess. He sent the possibly still-healing Annie and their son on a wagon train to Missouri, with no intentions of joining them at their final destination despite telling them he'd be behind, but why didn't he go with them?

If the point of him staying behind was to get vengence for her beating, that'd be one thing, but he was already wanted for the marshals' deaths by that point. So instead of actively keeping his family safe while on the lam, he sent them off to be even farther away from him. Which perhaps keeps them "safe" from Marshals tracking Negan down, but that whole wagon train could have been set ablaze with everyone still on board — heaven forbid — and Negan wouldn't have a whisp of a clue.

And what's more, him lying about following them means that Annie and Joshua are possibly still worrying about what happened to Negan even as he's telling Maggie that story. Unless he sent word out to them after the fact, somehow, then they likely thought he was A. caught and imprisoned, B. caught and killed, or C. just never followed them to begin with. None of those options are great for a mother and her young child to cope with, but this bearded bastard over here was too busy selling himself as Mr. Nice Guy to think about how insanely damaging his idea was. 

But hey, at least we don't have to go on wondering about Annie anymore, right? Wait, no, now we're still wondering about it, and with more worried urgency than ever before. Dammit, Negan.

Here's hoping Medina Senghore can return within an  upcoming Walking Dead TV show to possibly reveal that life got WAY better for her and Joshua whenever they left Negan behind. I guess I'd be okay with Negan going back to them after the events of Dead City, assuming he would no longer be a wanted man. Otherwise, they're probably better off without him.

It’s somehow only been seven months since The Walking Dead mothership officially wrapped up its eleven-season saga, with the franchise’s initial spinoff Fear the Walking Dead set to bow out later this year. But this post-apocalyptic universe isn’t dying off anytime soon, with several upcoming TWD series on the horizon, starting with Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Lauren Cohan reprising the fan-fave rivals Negan and Maggie, respectively, for AMC’s newest offshoot subtitled Dead City. Having watched the new horror drama’s linear premiere, it’s safe to say I have a few thoughts about this new chapter.  

Kinda Weird To Start This Show Off With Maggie Nearly Getting Taken Out By A Chunky Walker

While I do realize this cold open was all about setting up Maggie going all 2001: A Space Odyssey ape and letting a little bit of rage seep out, I feel like that could have been done without her getting snuck up on by a big sloppy walker that would realistically be terrible at stealth. This premiere managed to have two of these moments, as Negan himself would have easily been chomped out of existence later in the department store thanks to a bizarrely silent zombie that didn’t immediately try to feast. Regardless of such tropes, I just didn’t want to see Maggie’s survival skills get called into question so soon after she returned to audiences. 

I Would Watch A Whole Show Centered On This (Or Another) Post-Apocalyptic Bar

I’ve been readily anticipating the arrival of a watering hole in The Walking Dead: Dead City since the bar locale was first announced, and its arrival didn’t exactly disappoint, even if it was pure TV blasphemy to introduce a Michelle Hurd character only to kill her off ten minutes later. The bartender was a bit of a creepster, and this place’s clientele maybe wasn’t ideal, but the scene more or less proved that the post-apocalyptic bar scene is worthy of more exploration. I especially loved that this place also had a motel attached, though that almost definitely doesn’t help with the quality of the regular customers. Negan notwithstanding, but only halfway. I wish the bar would have been on Manhattan island, and would have served as Negan and Maggie’s homebase each week, but here’s hoping we see it again in the end, and Hershel can do a kegstand. 

Beyond Flashbacks To Negan's Arrival, I'm Kinda Surprised There Weren't More Callbacks

Negan might think he’s all good and forgiven for his past transgressions while swinging his old pal Lucille around, but Maggie’s flashback-induced nightmare about Glenn’s murder made it quite clear that this is not the case. But beyond that murder, a Hilltop mention, and Maggie’s inquiry about Annie, Dead City didn’t really dish out a whole lot of callbacks or references to the flagship drama, and thus didn’t delve into much exposition to fill in the timeline blanks. Which could obviously change in future episodes, but I was fully ready for this spinoff to immediately go hard on tie-in connections. Hopefully this show will pull off a franchise return for actor Stephen Yeun, as unlikely as it seems, with that head-smashing flashback setting the stage for it. 

I'm Not Actually Against Armstrong Just Yet

As a symbol of civilized authority, Gaius Charles’ Marshal Perlie Armstrong automatically has a veneer of antagonism, which is strengthened by his central task of apprehending one of the characters that viewers were already familiar with. But I have a feeling he’s going to end up being a much better person, generally speaking, than either Negan or Maggie, and that the onus will be put on audiences when it comes to choosing whether or not to see him as an actual villain. Of course, that prediction might end up being laughably far from the truth, seeing as how he accidentally killed his deputy already, but I like the idea of Morgan and Cohan’s characters being trapped between ostensibly “good” and “evil” threats, as it were. 

Nope Nope Nope Nope To All Those Roaches

This isn’t the evil that was spoken of in the previous entry, but that scene with all the CGI roaches was pure ungodly wickedness, just as Lauren Cohan teased it would be. It started with the extended pacing, in which the characters were each way too casual at first about brushing roaches off of their arms and out of their hair. Approaching walkers or not, the only way my body would know how to react to that situation would be to haul ass in the opposite direction while shattering any nearby crystals with my disgusted screeching. And that’s before the actual nightmare of Pulsating Roach Mountain was uncovered. If The Croat really wants Hershel to talk, he’ll push his face into Pulsating Roach Mountain, and that kid would soon run out of confessions to offer up.

Željko Ivanek Always Plays Great Villains

Željko Ivanek is the kind of actor who is so good at playing bad guys that even when portraying genuinely moral protagonists in movies and TV shows, I'm unable to completely shed my skepticisms and suspicions. So he's was absolutely a top-tier choice to take on a villainous role with the Walking Dead universe, as he's capable of playing scenes as chillingly understated, while also being able to spin things on a dime to go far bigger and scarier with his performances. With his first scene in Dead City, his character was threatening torture on a child that he'd kidnapped, and while I'd never believe Ivanek himself would do such a thing, I didn't for a second question how far The Croat will end up taking things if Hershel doesn't offer up some info.

The Walking Dead: Dead City is coming back for Season 2 as part of the 2025 TV schedule. That’s right, Maggie, Negan, The Croat, Perlie, and more are all coming back for a second time around – and we’re heading right back into the thick of things.

Dead City follows two enemies-turned-forced allies when Maggie’s son is taken from her – and she must team up with Negan to hunt down the people who took him, leading them to Manhattan, of all places – hence the title, “Dead City.” With some faces that are familiar and others that are brand new, here is where you’ve seen the Dead City cast before, including those that will be coming as part of Season 2.

Lauren Cohan as Maggie Greene (Season 1 - Present)

First up on the list is the obvious one, Lauren Cohan, who plays Maggie Greene in The Walking Dead: Dead City. Cohan played Maggie all throughout The Walking Dead as well as the first season of Dead City, and will continue her story in the next season.

Cohan, however, has done much more than just TWD during her time in television and movies. Besides her main role on the show, she also had a main role on her own series, Whiskey Cavalier, for a season, and had recurring roles on several other TV shows, including the hit fantasy series Supernatural, for one season, the teen drama series The Vampire Diaries, Chuck, and the adult animated series, Archer.

With film, Cohan’s biggest credit thus far was her starring role in the horror movie The Boy, one of the scariest doll movies out there, but she was also in films such as Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice, Mile 22, All Eyez on Me, and Reach Me.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Negan (Season 1 – Present)

Next up on this list is the man, the myth, the legend, Negan himself, the person who was arguably the best villain on TWD – and later turned into a decent guy down the line. Dead City brings back Negan, played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan, someone who has been in the movie and television industry for some time, and his story will continue in Season 2.

Morgan has been in many films that you might recognize him from, including Rampage, Heist, Walkaway Joy, The Resident, Watchmen, Shanghai, Jam, Road Kill, The Unholy, Fall and more. But television has been where Morgan has really shined in the past.

He appeared in recurring roles in shows such as The Good Wife, Extant, The Burning Zone, Grey’s Anatomy, Supernatural, The Secret Life of Marilyn Monroe, Leopard Skin, and more. He also had a big guest role in Season 4 of The Boys.

Gaius Charles as Perlie Armstrong (Season 1 – Present)

Moving on, we take a look at Gaius Charles, who plays Perlie Armstrong in The Walking Dead: Dead City and is expected to come back in Season 2. The first of many new characters within The Walking Dead universe, Perlie is a strong and confident man who is willing to do anything in order to build a safe world for his family, including killing those that get in his way.

Charles has been around on television for some time. He was a part of the main cast of Friday Night Lights, and had recurring roles on television shows such as Necessary Roughness, Aquarius, Grey’s Anatomy, Roswell: New Mexico and Queens. He was also a part of the main cast of God Friended Me.

Besides that, Charles has also appeared in movies such as The Messenger, Salt, Takers, Batman: Bad Blood in a voice role, Alice, Land of Dreams, and The Stanford Prison Experiment.

Željko Ivanek as The Croat (Season 1 – Present)

The next person we’re going to talk about is Željko Ivanek, who plays The Croat in Dead City, and will certainly be back in Season 2 in a big way with Negan’s plot.

Ivanek has appeared in many television shows before this, with many big roles. He has had parts in series such as Damages, Homicide: Life on the Street, Heroes, 24, True Blood, Suits, Revolution, 12 Monkeys and so many more. Most recently, he had a main role on the hit show, Madame Secretary, where he played Russell Jackson, the chief of staff at the White House.

Besides that, Ivanek has also appeared in a variety of films. Some of his biggest include The Last Duel from Ridley Scott, The Courier, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, X-Men: Apocalypse, Seven Psychopaths, The Associate, Argo, Tower Heist and others.

Mahina Napoleon as Ginny (Season 1 – Present)

Next up is Ginny, who is played by Mahina Napoleon. Like her castmate before her, Napoleon is relatively new to the industry, as the only major role she’s had so far, besides this, was a recurring part on NCIS: Hawai’i, but it’ll be exciting to see where she goes from here on out.

Kim Coates as Bruegel (Season 2)

Deadline confirmed in early April 2024 that Kim Coates would play Bruegel in Season 2 of Dead City. Bruegel is the leader of a gang in New York City, and has a surprising “manipulative” brain that no one expects.

The actor is primarily known for his role as Tig in Sons of Anarchy, but has appeared in various other television shows like Bad Blood, Prison Break, CSI and more. He’s also appeared in big movies like Bad Boys, King of Sorrow, and The Last Boy Scout among others. He’s also done a lot of stage work as well.

Keir Gilchrist as Benjamin Pierce (Season 2)

Back during the 2024 San Diego Comic-Con in July, executive producer Eli Jorne gave us insight into several new casting additions. The first of which is Keir Gilchrist, who will play Benjamin Pierce in Season 2 of Dead City.

The actor has appeared in various television shows before, including United States of Tara, Atypical, and more. He also held roles in movies like It’s Kind of a Funny Story, It Follows, Flashback, The Featherweight and more.

Dascha Polanco as Major Lucia Narvaez (Season 2)

The next name confirmed was Dascha Polanco, who will play Major Lucia Narvaez in Season 2 of The Walking Dead: Dead City. Polanco has appeared in various movies including In The Heights, Samaritan, The Irishman, and more.

The actress is primarily known for her role as Daya in the Orange is the New Black cast on Netflix, but has appeared in several other TV shows including Poker Face, The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story, and more.

Jake Weary as Christos (Season 2)

Jake Weary will play Christos in Season 2 of Dead City. The actor appeared in movies such as It: Chapter Two, Rushed, The Birthday Cake, Smartass and more prior to his role in Dead City.

He also appeared in television shows like Pretty Little Liars and Animal Kingdom, among others.

Pooya Mohseni as Roksana (Season 2)

Pooya Mohseni will portray Roksana in Dead City Season 2. The actress has appeared in various movies and TV shows such as Heather, The Arrival, Bound, Remote, and more. She’s also done voice-acting work as well.

Jonathan Higginbotham as Tommaso (Season 1)

Moving on, we take a look at Jonathan Higginbotham, who portrayed Tommaso in The Walking Dead: Dead City. Higginbotham is relatively new to television, as he’s only had guest roles prior to his major role in shows such as The Blacklist, Bonding, and Shining Vale. He was also in the movie Agent Toby Barks. His character died in the first season and is not expected to return in Season 2.

Trey Santiago-Hudson as Jano (Season 1)

The last person on this list is Trey Santiago-Hudson, who played Jano in The Walking Dead: Dead City. The actor has been in two movies before, You Hurt My Feelings and Vineyards, but he also had a guest role in the popular show, New Amsterdam before it ended in early 2023. His character died in the first season and is not expected to come back in Season 2.

While we’re not sure where these characters will take Maggie and Negan on this epic adventure, I’m sure that it’s going to be a wild ride indeed, especially after the intense first season. Are you ready to dive deeper into Dead City?

The Walking Dead's emotional conclusion wrapped the flagship's story in 2022, but fans can still look forward to numerous upcoming TWD spinoff series, including Dead City. Premiering in just a few short weeks, the series will take Lauren Cohan’s Maggie and Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s Negan into a post-apocalyptic Manhattan, with plenty of unique undead threats centered on the island, as Maggie tries to rescue her son, Hershel. That's not the only problem that they will have to deal with, though, as Dead City will apparently becomes Roach City at some point, which sounds as horrifying as can be.

Lauren Cohan shared details for the upcoming horror drama in an interview with The New York Post, where she teased the creepy-crawly scene that has Maggie and Negan dealing with a swarm of cockroaches as they’re hiding from nearby walkers. Luckily, it was all CGI magic, without the stars actually having to suffer through a roach flood. Even if they likely won’t seem to be having fun on-screen, they definitely had a blast seeing the magic happen in the aftermath. In Cohan's words:

It's understandable why rats would have been an alternate idea. And while that would have been similarly awful to watch, it's been done quite a bit before in other projects, while roaches aren't exactly the norm. 

CGI or not, that scene is already making my skin crawl, and it’s going to be terrifying to see it when it finally airs. There have been a lot of creepy and gag-incuding moments from The Walking Dead and its spinoffs over the years, so it’s not really anything that fans aren’t used to, generally speaking. But the idea of being swarmed by cockroaches is realistic enough, setting it apart from dealing with nasty zombie bits. 

Since it is a Walking Dead series, the cockroaches and walkers probably won’t be the only creepy creatures that Maggie and Negan deal with in the rundown Big Apple. There is a lot we know about Dead City already, but there are still going to be some surprises in store. One of the trailers for Dead City showed off the most nightmarish zombie that Maggie and Negan have faced yet, which is in addition to some very human threats out there. 

It's no secret that Maggie has been through a lot on The Walking Dead, between her house burning down, losing so many loved ones, and getting captured on numerous occasions. (Which isn't even the whole of it.) This new spinoff will likely put her through the wringer yet again, with Maggie having to once again rely on the brute that murdered her husband. Here's hoping New York itself can survive their rough relationship.

The Walking Dead: Dead City will be premiering on AMC on June 18, after it was initially meant to debut in April. Keep an eye out for other big releases coming to the 2023 TV schedule. 

Before you know it, The Walking Dead will once again expand its horizons with the franchise’s latest spinoff, TWD: Dead City, which will arrive on AMC in June. While we’ve known for quite a while now that the New York-set series will team Negan and Maggie together on a hunt for her kidnapped son Hershel, the newly released trailer seen above thankfully connects a lot of the disparate details that have trickled through during filming and the early months of promotions. Now we know exactly why Maggie needed Negan to accompany her, despite their rocky past, and the new visuals also reveal a recasting for the ‘napped kid, a parkour-friendly walker, and arguably the most monstrous zombie the franchise has delivered yet. 

Meet The New Hershel Rhee

As it turns out, Lauren Cohan’s Maggie felt it necessary to bring Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s Negan with her to New York City because of the man who nabbed Hershel. As portrayed by Madam Secretary and Three Billboards vet Željko Ivanek, the character known as the Croat apparently has a past relationship with Negan that almost definitely isn’t a good thing for anyone involved.

This storyline is a good thing, however, for Ghostbusters; Afterlife star Logan Kim, who took over the role of Hershel Rhee from Kien Michael Spiller, who first appeared in the role in Season 10, at the time replacing the younger Peyton Lockridge. (TWD showrunner Angela Kang’s son Ethan Charles temporarily took the Hershel mantle for the flash-forward dream sequence in Season 7’s tragic premiere.) Given the fact that Kim is around 4 years older than Spiller, that should allow for quite a bit of evolution for Hershel and his relationship with Maggie and others. Post-apocalyptic teen angst is no joke. 

Meet The Walking Dead Universe's Most WTF Creature Yet

Of all the upcoming Walking Dead shows, I’m looking forward to Dead City the most specifically to see how this franchise will handle its metropolis setting, as compared to so many years in rural and woodsy areas. And I guess I have one of my answers with the ugly mofo seen above, which doesn’t look like anything that could possibly have come out of Alexandria, Virginia. Or even Atlanta. Honestly, it looks like it could have only come out of the New York in which Jason Takes Manhattan is set.

Because seriously, what is happening there? Is it a case where some people died in some toxic sludge that melded their bodies together in such a gross-tastic fashion? Or is this like a Human Centipede kind of thing where Croat-man or some crafty lunatic out is surgically connecting walkers? Or maybe they were put together before they were resurrected? There are surprisingly more scenarios than one might expect, and all of them are fucking ewww. But I for sure want to blow up this gnarly bastard in a video game at some point. 

Meet The Parkouring Dead

The Walking Dead’s final season and the World Beyond spinoff finally brought back the concept of active walkers that do more than just walk, which was largely abandoned after Season 1. The franchise has largely held to the status quo of shambling zombies at mostly slow speeds, but with the idea that there are some sections of the undead population that have a bit more dexterity and physicality. And unless this trailer is pulling a fast one on viewers, it appears as if at least one walker in New York City (seen above) is seasoned in parkour.

That’s already a lot for the brain to handle, but then this trailer takes the parkour-walker notion a step further by introducing him doing this shit on top of a tall building’s roof. Say what now? How’d he get up there? Are there sidewalks around that look like Jackson Pollock paintings because of all the splattered walkers who were also trying to land wall jumps atop skyscrapers? I can’t wait to see if there are also zombie buskers and street magicians in this world. 

With other co-stars such as The Walking Dead: Dead City will bring its ghastly walker-zords to viewers on Sunday, June 18, at 10:00 p.m. ET, presumably near the time when Fear the Walking Dead’s final midseason finale will air. Though 2023 kicked off as the first year in over a decade without a new season of The Walking Dead universe’s flagship series on the horizon, a host of news has already been revealed for the rest of the franchise’s upcoming TV projects. For one, we know that the long-running spinoff Fear the Walking Dead will follow up on that Season 7 shocker by ending with its upcoming, time-jumping eighth season. Plus, we know for sure that the highly anticipated Rick and Michonne limited series won’t be around until 2024. Thankfully, this week also brought some new details and imagery from The Walking Dead: Dead City, Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Lauren Cohan’s next chapter as Negan and Maggie. And one of those new pics features a specific location that I’ve long wanted to see in this world: a bar.

AMC put out several new peeks at the upcoming spinoff, which will have Maggie and Negan traveling into the heart of New York City, in part to track a dangerous killer. That kind of life can certainly make one want to take a load off by sitting back and cracking open a cold one, or perhaps nursing a bottle of wine or whiskey. It appears just such an experience can be had for Dead City’s characters, as evidenced by the shot below.

Is it just me, or does this look like it’s coming out of a completely different franchise? That kind of purple and green lighting is just completely foreign to the general Walking Dead aesthetic, and I kind of love it. Especially with Maggie’s leathery clothing choices. I do wonder what kind of booze she’d opt for, and certainly hope we’ll find out. If anybody deserves to get slap-faced shithoused in this post-apocalypse, it’s the woman who has to team up with the behemoth that murdered her husband. 

The Entire Walking Dead Timeline, Explained

Just in case anyone thought I was making assumptions about the setting based loosely on what’s seen, Maggie is opposite actor Charlie Solis, who is credited with playing the character “Bartender,” so unless that’s a pretty particular surname, this is a bar. (I hope to hell that Mo Collins’ Sarah finds out about this place before it’s all over with, and that Mr. Bartender has some quality suds on tap.)

To bring things back around to the hubby-killing Negan, another one of the new images has him held at knifepoint, and seemingly ready to have it all come to an end, even though we know that's not happening.

Several of the new shots are similar to the one seen below, with the main characters out and about in the city streets, with that weird greenish night glow happening. As if things were being viewed through a Heineken bottle or something. The third actor shown below is Trey Santiago-Hudson, who'll star as Jano. 

Let's cap things off with another new character, the grim-faced Armstrong, as portrayed by Grey's Anatomy vet Gaius Charles. He looks like he could smell Negan's bullshit from halfway across the country, and I'm hoping one of the first things his character does is explain how he keeps his hat looking so fresh and so clean.

With The Walking Dead's final season now available to stream with a Netflix subscription, the spinoff Dead City is set to debut on AMC in June, with an exact premiere date yet to be revealed. When it comes to shows I have watched for a long time, The Walking Dead is definitely one of them. From some of its most heartbreaking deaths to the best villains, I have seen the rise and fall of characters new and old, but one that has stuck around - at least for most of the show - is Maggie Greene, played by Lauren Cohan. 

The farmer-turned-survivor was introduced in Season 2 of the show, and has become a fan-favorite and someone who has made it out of some of the worst situations. In honor of the show coming to an end in November 2022 and Dead City wrapping up its first season, here is a timeline of Maggie Greene's life, and the major events that made her the badass she is today, including her story in Dead City. 

Maggie Meets Glenn (Season 2)

One of the best relationships in The Walking Dead is, hands down, Maggie and Glenn (played by Steven Yeun), and it’s crazy to think that they met all the way back in Season 2 of the show - and their relationship didn’t even start out strongly for both of them. They had sex once and Maggie didn’t want to do it again, but she couldn’t stay away from Glenn for long. 

Now, years later, they are still considered the best relationship on this show. It all started because she caught Glenn looking at a box of condoms. What a time to be alive. 

Maggie’s Home Burns Down (Season 2)

The Greene family farm was the main setting for all of Season 2 of The Walking Dead, which was why when it finally burned down in the finale of the season, it was an important catalyst for Maggie becoming a stronger survivor. 

We see this later, as she became battle-hardened like everyone else after experiencing winter on the road, and not having the shelter of her home anymore. 

Maggie And Glenn Are Captured By The Governor (Season 3)

The Governor was one of the best villains The Walking Dead had to offer, and of course, he had to kidnap two of the people that we cared about the most, Maggie and Glenn. He interrogated them and threatened to sexually abuse Maggie if she didn’t talk, forcing her to take off her shirt and bra, and threatens to harm Glenn, too. But, she keeps her mouth shut, no matter what. 

That assault caused what is still one of the biggest fan controversies over the show, but thankfully, Rick mounted a rescue mission to get them out of there. 

Glenn Proposes To Maggie (Season 3)

It was so simple; so sweet. Glenn didn’t get down on one knee or anything. All he did was give Maggie a ring he found on a run and asked her that way. The way they kissed after has me squealing even years later despite knowing the inevitable outcome of their relationship. 

Damn it, now I’m sad.

Maggie’s Father Is Killed By The Governor (Season 4)

This episode, “Too Far Gone,” is hands down one of the best episodes of The Walking Dead, specifically because Hershel, the long-time moral compass of the group, was killed off by The Governor. Hershel - who was also Maggie’s father. It’s a horrible moment, one that really sticks with you years later. 

I can still picture her horrible face as she cries out for her father, shooting at the Governor’s men. She was never quite really the same after that - but I doubt anyone who loses their loving father in such a horrific matter would be.

Maggie Gets Separated From - And Then Reunites With - Glenn (Season 4)

After the prison was destroyed and overrun by walkers, everyone there had to go in different directions, getting separated. For several episodes, we saw Maggie try and survive on the road with Sasha and Bob, while Glenn traveled with Tara (a former member of the Governor’s men), as well as meeting Abraham, Rosita, and Eugene (two of whom are still around on the show today)

But, this show couldn’t keep the couple separate for long, and they did end up reuniting, complete with a passionate kiss - before they ended up stowed away in a train car in Terminus. 

Maggie Loses Beth (Season 5)

I’m still not over this death in The Walking Dead. All Maggie had left of her former family was Beth, and then in the Season 5 mid-season finale, she’s taken from her with a single gunshot during Beth’s failed attempt to shoot Dawn. 

It’s heartbreaking watching Maggie fall to her knees as Daryl carries Beth’s dead body out of the hospital, with Glenn trying to comfort her from behind. After she lost Beth, it was hard for her to move past that. 

Maggie Gets Domestic In Alexandria (Season 6)

However, Maggie does find some peace in the chaos of her life when she and the group wind up at Alexandria, where she starts to slowly domesticate herself with Glenn. She starts to help out with the crops and the planning with Deana, and she and Glenn even anticipate having a child when she becomes pregnant. 

But, nothing good lasts forever, right?

Maggie (And Carol) Are Kidnapped By Paula (Season 6)

The Saviors ended up being a huge villain in The Walking Dead, lead by the famous Negan. One of the Saviors at the time, Paula, takes Maggie and Carol (another character that has been around since forever on the show) as hostages after Rick's group attacked the Saviors. 

Despite all this, the two badass women find a way out and are able to save themselves, showing just how far both of them have come as survivors. 

Maggie Loses Glenn (Season 7)

Remember when I said nothing good lasts forever? This was the prime example of that. 

In the premiere of Season 7 of The Walking Dead, where Negan is doing his infamous lineup, he kills Abraham first, and when Daryl snaps and tries to attack Negan, he decides to further punish Rick’s group and take out Glenn, as well. 

The sound of Glenn saying that “he’ll find" Maggie as he’s literally dying and his eye is bulging out of his head as she cries is one of the most gut-wrenching moments on television I’ve ever watched. And, I ain’t watching it again, no sir. I’m still upset about it.

Maggie Decides To Stay At Hilltop (Season 7)

It’s no surprise that Maggie ultimately ended up deciding to stay at Hilltop after Glenn’s death. She buries him there, and ends up helping the people of that particular safe zone learn to survive and thrive more - despite the fact that they have a really bad leader named Gregory who is incompetent in every sense of the word. 

Don’t worry, we’ll get to Gregory later. 

During her time there, she’s able to build Hilltop up and use her position of power to help them take out the Saviors alongside Alexandria.

Maggie Meets Georgie (Season 8)

Georgie is one of the most intriguing characters in The Walking Dead, because we literally only saw her once in Season 8, saying that all she wanted with Maggie and Hilltop were records, and once she got those, she’d trade them plans for certain structures that would help Hilltop thrive. 

It’s such a strange moment because again, we don’t hear about her again until Season 9 - and we don’t even see her. Clearly, this moment had a heavy impact on Maggie, as Georgie comes back into her story a season later. 

Maggie Has Gregory Executed (Season 9)

Remember how I said Gregory was literally the worst? Maggie, thankfully, agreed with that sentiment. 

In Season 9 of The Walking Dead, when Maggie has officially taken over as leader at Hilltop, she is tired of Gregory constantly going against her, and, most importantly, trying to kill her. So, she decides to have him executed so it doesn’t happen again. 

While some people are justifiably unnerved about this decision, it had to be done, as Gregory was always betraying everyone at Hilltop. 

Maggie Leaves The Communities, With Her Son, To Join Georgie (Season 9) 

During the one and a half year time jump between the end of Season 8 and the beginning of Season 9 in The Walking Dead, Maggie had Hershel Jr., Glenn's son, and after Rick’s supposed death (which we all know now is a lie), they left Hilltop to go join Georgie and her group and build a new community together.

 Again, we don’t see Georgie physically. We’re just given this explanation that Maggie went off to help her. For the rest of Season 9 and a good part of Season 10, we don’t see Maggie again. And we don’t end up seeing her again at all for the rest of the series. It remains one of my biggest questions – but maybe we’ll get some update in the plethora of spinoffs out there. 

Maggie Comes Back To Fight Against The Whisperers (Season 10) 

It’s been six years at the end of Season 10, and Maggie returned with some badass buddies to help take down the Whisperers.

Despite being off building communities, Maggie comes back when she reads a letter from Carol, telling her of the horrors that have befallen their community, which spurs Maggie to come and help them. After that, she is back on the show as a main character and fixture of The Walking Dead. 

Maggie Would Rather Stick With Negan Than Join The Commonwealth (Season 11)

A big thing with Maggie in The Walking Dead is that she had an obsession with killing Negan in Season 9. Which is understandable - the man killed her husband, so I’d be pretty upset, too. In the same episode as Rick’s departure, she realizes that killing Negan isn’t going to change anything or bring Glenn back - which is what spurred her to leave with Georgie in the first place. 

However, in Season 11, we actually see a miracle - these two start to work together in a fragile alliance, but an alliance all the same. By this point in the show, Negan had proven himself valuable by taking out Alpha, the leader of The Whisperers, in Season 10, but Maggie, having just returned after years on the road, still despises him. 

Throughout Season 11, Maggie and Negan work together to fight the Commonwealth soldiers. When she sees how Negan protects her son, she even admits to him that she could be beginning to trust him, which means that Maggie would literally rather trust Negan, the man who killed Glenn, than join the Commonwealth. 

Maggie Attempts To Move Past Her Anger At Negan (Season 11)

During the last few episodes of The Walking Dead, when it was finally coming to a close, we saw that Maggie was actually attempting to work with Negan more. In their fight against the Commonwealth, it was no longer Maggie vs Negan, but the two of them working alongside the fellow survivors to take down the corrupt system that the Commonwealth had set up. 

In the emotional series finale, Maggie has a conversation with Negan, where she openly admits that she can’t ever forgive him – which is justified. The man killed her husband. It would be hard for me to move past that, too. 

But, what she did say is that she is willing to try and move past her anger and hatred to work with him, because she can see that there has been a lot of change in him over the years, and that he had earned his place. This is what really sets up Dead City later on.  

Maggie Looks To Negan For Help In Rescuing Her Son (The Walking Dead: Dead City, Season 1)

The first episode of Dead City drops, and fans finally know why Maggie and Negan are heading all the way to New York City – to help find her son, Hershel Rhee, who was captured by a former Savior named the Croat. This in turn starts their journey together. 

Keep in mind that at this point in The Walking Dead timeline, several years have passed, and Hershel Rhee is now a teenager, which means that the franchise has jumped forward by a lot from the series finale. Hilltop is no longer called that, instead renamed Bricks, and there’s a new community called New Babylon that Negan is on the run from. So much has changed – but this strange partnership still brings in plenty of new adventures for Maggie. 

Maggie Betrays Negan To The Croat In Exchange For Hershel Rhee (The Walking Dead: Dead City, Season 1)

During Dead City, Maggie and Negan work with plenty of different people to try and get her son back – but in the end, it's revealed that Maggie made a deal with the Croat, offering to trade Negan instead, rather than take him down. It was all a ruse. 

We see this in an epic fight during the Season 1 finale that the two have before she hands him over – seeing how Negan is understandably disappointed. While he knows that she can never forgive him, he really thought they could take down the Croat together instead of doing this. 

But Maggie gets her son back – and deep down, that’s all that really matters… right? 

Maggie Realizes That Dama Is Still A Threat To Her Son (The Walking Dead: Dead City, Season 1)

Just when Maggie thought that her son was safe, she finds Hershel’s drawings in his bedroom when he’s asleep, seeing that he was drawing Dama. The woman is a close ally of the Croat, and the person who wants Negan to unite several communities in Manhattan to go against the New Babylon Federation.

Maggie recognizes that her son is still under threat, and she just might need to head back to New York City if she realizes what Dama intends to do with Negan. And little does Maggie know that Dama cut off Hershel’s toe as a threat to Negan – that she can still easily get Hershel back and torture him if Negan does not do what she asks. 

All of this just makes me want to see Dead City Season 2 even more. One can only wonder what will come next for the series – and what will come next for Maggie Rhee.

AMC’s popular zombie apocalypse series The Walking Dead will be ending later this year after 11 seasons. While it will be hard to say goodbye, there are still multiple projects in the TWD universe that are either airing or in development, with the Tales of the Walking Dead anthology unveiling first looks at its all-star cast. That spinoff list also includes the much-discussed offshoot focusing on Negan and Maggie, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan shared a pretty big and exciting about it with fans.

A spinoff following Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s beloved character has been in the works for a short while now, without many more details being revealed after the initial announcement, even as the spring finale of The Walking Dead unintentionally started to set up the spinoff's narrative. In responding to a fan on Twitter, though, Morgan revealed he and co-star Lauren Cohan now know exactly what to expect from Isle of the Dead, and he thinks fans should keep a tight grip on their minds. In his words:

It’s not surprising that Jeffrey Dean Morgan had this extreme a reaction to experiencing the spinoff in script form, considering he's not one for subtle responses. How exactly Negan's New York City adventure will blow our fucking minds is obviously unknown at the moment, but finding out is a splendid enough reason to eventually check out Isle of the Dead when it debuts. And, of course, seeing him work with Lauren Cohan again will definitely be a plus for TWD fans, as Negan and Maggie continue to morph their relationship. It sounds like this spinoff will not disappoint, even if Morgan isn't the most impartial judge on such things. 

In April, the upcoming series added Grey’s Anatomy and Friday Night Lights vet Gaius Charles as the spinoff’s first original character. He will portray Izaak, who is confident and ruthless and will do anything to get what he wants, which obviously sounds a little like the Negan of old. Not much else is known about how Izaak will play a part in the new series, but he doesn't sound like someone eager to make quick friends.

Meanwhile, Isle of the Dead will center on Negan and Maggie as they journey through a Manhattan that has long been cut off from the rest of the country, and has since changed into something else entirely. While traversing an unfamiliar new area as full of unpredictable wildlife and humanlife as it is full of walkers, the two characters have to trust each other in order to survive the trip, whose purpose is still unknown.

The series is set to have six episodes for its first season, though it does not yet have a premiere date. Fans can likely expect Isle of the Dead debut at some point in 2023, though, and hopefully now that we know that Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Lauren Cohan have read the scripts, the projected production schedule can be come that much clearer. We're gonna need to know well in advance when our minds will be fucking blown, just in case we need to schedule clean-up.

Spoiler warning for anyone who hasn't yet watched The Walking Dead's final spring finale!

Even though The Walking Dead tried to pull a fast one on viewers by making it seem as if Maggie was a goner in “Acts of God,” it was pretty obvious that someone was going to step in at the last minute, with Daryl as the obvious choice. At least, it was obvious to anyone who’s been paying attention to news about the TWD universe as a whole, since the announcement about Negan and Maggie’s Isle of the Dead spinoff essentially confirmed that Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s characters would survive the entirety of the flagship’s final season. And the AMC drama’s final midseason finale took a step in the direction of setting up said spinoff, even if it wasn’t intended to be that way at the time it came together. 

How The Walking Dead’s “Acts Of God” Planted Seeds For Isle Of The Dead Spinoff

When it was first announced that The Walking Dead was officially getting a Maggie and Negan spinoff, which Jeffrey Dean Morgan is as here for as anyone, the biggest question that fans likely had in mind was: how is this show going to work with two characters who clearly aren’t ever meant to be BFFs within this universe. After all, one of the show’s other highly anticipated offshoots will be focused on Daryl and Carol, who have remained very loving and close over the years despite any and all temporary setbacks. Not so much the case for the hardcore heroine and her hubby’s murderer, though.

But things definitely took a turn in “Acts of God,” although it’s one that has been somewhat imminent ever since Lauren Cohan returned to the show in full. Once it was clear Maggie and Negan weren’t going to come to blows during any of their first moments together on screen this season, it didn’t take much to then assume that showrunner Angela Kang and the rest of the creative team would find a way to bring them even closer together in non-antagonistic ways. With that kind of animosity-driven dynamic, it’s only natural. But this episode featured Maggie making the fairly shocking request for Negan and his new wife Annie to watch over Hershel as she went off to battle, and then doubling-down on that shock after the former villain pointed out that Hershel didn’t trust him. In her words:

Gross, Maggie, gross! Although not altogether irrational or illogical, considering the circumstances. Even if she’ll never truly forgive him for making Glenn’s head burst open via baseball bat, she has come to recognize his redeeming qualities, and that he has an empathetic soft spot for younger survivors. And when he called her “Maggie Rhee,” invoking the name of his most beloved victim, it was a sign of respect, as opposed to any form of trolling like the old Negan might have done. Instead, he offered a sincere dedication to appeasing Maggie’s wishes.

Plus, it 100% helps Negan’s case that Annie is sweet and charismatic and didn’t also murder anyone in Maggie’s family. And it will probably also be wise of him not to seemingly leave Maggie for dead again, as he did when Season 11 began. 

So even though the episode didn’t deliver any specific signposts indicating how or why Maggie and Negan end up together en route to New York for Isle of the Dead, “Acts of God” at least leveled the emotional playing field to the point where viewers can accept them taking a giant road trip together without instant bloodshed. It also seems as if Annie and Hershel will have to be involved in the spinoff in some way, either as catalysts for drama or as support. Not that Hershel is very skilled and practiced by way of “killing zombies and murderous human threats.” But who’s to say there won’t be a time jump that ages him up into more of a teenage badass?

Why “Acts Of God” Wasn’t Actually An Intentional Stepping Stone For Isle Of The Dead 

For as much as TV viewers may like to believe that the creative teams behind their favorite shows have a big wall where every story element is conceived and planned out to the fullest, that’s just not the case a lot of the time. In the case of The Walking Dead, the events that played out in Season 11’s middle eight episodes (and possibly some of those in the final eight) were crafted and scripted far ahead of the point when AMC execs made the decision to put in a series order for Isle of the Dead. As showrunner Angela Kang put it in an interview with Deadline: 

It’s impossible to know just how much of an inkling Angela Kang had about the chances of a Negan-centric spinoff happening, although it seems like The Walking Dead’s resident overlord Scott Gimple might have hinted at such potential futures as Season 11 was coming together, if only to steer the writers away from setting Negan up to lose his legs in an accident, and to avoid introducing characters sharing news that New York City fell into the ocean or something. Isle of the Dead wouldn’t have needed to be a sure thing in order to guide the creatives in such a way, and it was definitely set in stone ahead of the final days of TWD’s production, which wrapped as March came to an end. 

That said, it’s highly likely that Maggie and Negan’s story arc would have played out largely as is regardless, since it’s a more interesting take on their situation for them to have to co-exist with their horrific shared past, rather than just having Maggie impulsively bashing Negan’s head in with the butt of a rifle. (Assuming there aren’t any spare baseball bats around.) To that end, Kang continued, saying: 

Negan didn’t need to pull off any magnificently heroic acts in order to win some of Maggie’s favor. All he had to do was keep her kid safe and treat him the exact opposite of the way he treated Glenn, and Maggie found a way to wrap her brain around not entirely hating the dude. And there’s still a lot of time for the characters to grow closer and become ever so slightly more friendly on the way to the spinoff. 

We still have no idea how the story is going to take Negan and Maggie from Virginia to New York City, but that information probably won’t come out until after The Walking Dead has hung up its (cowboy) hat for good with Season 11’s conclusion. It’s still unclear when the show will return to AMC for the final eight episodes, but fans can look forward to watching the back half of Fear the Walking Dead Season 7, which returns to both AMC and AMC+ on Sunday, April 17, at 9:00 p.m. ET, with the streaming service debuting Episodes 709 and 710. As soon as The Walking Dead started going harder on setting up spinoffs for its post-apocalyptic mothership series, it seemed like an inevitability that Jeffrey Dean Morgan's ever-popular Negan would be front and center for a future offshoot. Considering the actor voiced his willingness to keep the former villain’s storyline going, it was only a matter of time before AMC pulled the metaphorical trigger with an announcement, and that time has come. Fans can look forward to seeing not only Negan in the location-changing new project, but also the character’s situational nemesis in Lauren Cohan’s Maggie.

The new series will be titled Isle of the Dead, and will be set in the universe’s biggest metropolis since its Atlanta origins. The show will center on Negan and Maggie as they make their way into and through a completely upended Manhattan that has been completely cut off from the rest of the country for many years. To be expected, this island will be full of walkers of all shapes and sizes, but also a population of living citizens who have turned the area into a place that is every bit as uniquely beautiful as it is dangerous and unpredictable. The anarchic setting sounds like the polar opposite of the Commonwealth that is currently being explored on the main Walking Dead series, and will likely force Maggie and Negan to put trust in each other like never before in order to survive. 

Jeffrey Dean Morgan gleefully imagines the Dead-verse incorporating some of the country’s most iconic landmarks when Isle of the Dead arrives. In his words:

The first teaser poster for Isle of the Dead definitely plays up the New York City-ness of it all, complete with the franchise’s iconic “Dead Inside” doors. 

I'm sure the grafitti on the wall and the other signage are clues about what fans can expect, but it's possibly all a little too vague and early on to make any big guesses. Although I do now hope that Negan and Maggie meet up with a character called Traffic Cone. 

Negan is currently unaccounted for on The Walking Dead, having made the surprising decision in the winter premiere to go out on his own after all but one of the Reapers were eliminated. Trailers for the latter chunk of Season 11 already revealed his return was imminent, and with a new friend by his side, so it’s no real shock that the character will apparently earn more late-stage focus than his comic book counterpart did. It is 100% surprising, however, that the new spinoff will focus on him and Maggie, though, since their communication skills with one another leave much to be desired. As much as Morgan might want to go back and stop Negan from killing Glenn, it happened, and the character will forever be in Maggie’ doghouse for it.

Set for a six-episode first season, Isle of the Dead is being written by Walking Dead writer/co-executive producer Eli Jorné, who boasts an overall deal with AMC. He will serve as the showrunner and EP for the new show, with Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Lauren Cohan also taking on EP roles behind the scenes. Overseeing the entire project will be the franchise's chief content officer Scott M. Gimple, who had his own anticipation-spawning explanation for the show:

Lauren Cohan also sounded excited about going public with the news with her statement, though she wasn't quite as quick to say that the new series will revolutionize everything we know about The Walking Dead. But maybe she's just better about surprises that way.

While Isle of the Dead obviously doesn't have any exact dates locked down for when viewers might be able to tune in, fans can at least expect the Big Apple spinoff to debut at some point in 2023. Spoilers below for the latest episode of The Walking Dead, so be warned!

Ever since it was first announced that Lauren Cohan would return to The Walking Dead to close out the series as Maggie Rhee, fans were fully aware an eventual confrontation would happen between Maggie and Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s villain-in-reform Negan. I can’t imagine anyone thought it would take nearly the entire first third of Season 11 for it to happen, however, nor that it would be a fairly calm exchange without blood being shed or voices being raised or any other major signs of emotional anguish. (I guess last week's episode had enough of those.)

As it often goes with big moments on The Walking Dead, I came out of Maggie and Negan’s big talk with a two-handed perspective. On one hand, I can understand the practicality behind how and why everything played out as it did, and that was helped along by Angela Kang’s post-episode commentary. Hard to tease fans with the idea of a Negan spinoff if Maggie is wearing the fan-favorite badass' head as a necklace. But then on the other hand, I’m left feeling a little underwhelmed by the whole thing, at least with how things were left off at the end of “Promises Broken” going into next week’s fall finale. So let’s break things down a little, similar to how Maggie should have broken down Negan’s face a little.

Why Maggie And Negan's Big Talk Was Disappointing

I can’t sit here and act as if I have this massive, multi-layered treatise to deliver here, not that anyone reading this would have expected (or wanted) that. Rather, this area of my one-sided argument is sourced completely from a gut impulse to balance the scales of post-apocalyptic justice with an Old Testament fury. Because we’re dealing with fictional characters here, and because the death at the center of Negan and Maggie’s friction was so over-the-top brutal, I feel perfectly comfortable rooting for Maggie to get her gruesome revenge in some way, shape, or form. And while it could still happen, her sit-down with Negan over a spit-roasted dinner seemingly threw a wet blanket on any Glenn-fueled fires still burning inside.

Surely, I understand that the years since Glenn’s murder have further changed Maggie as a survivor, and mothering Hershel also brought about huge fluctuations in her body chemistry. I wouldn’t go so far as to say she’s “protective” of Negan or anything, but she’s clearly lost the immediate urge to beat him with a bag of rocks. And yet I still held out hope for Maggie to lash out once Negan delivered the episode’s biggest whopper of a line after she asked if he would have done things differently on that fateful night when he first appeared:

Granted, Negan wasn’t all cranked up and rubbing it in Maggie’s face in saying it, so her reaction was more “tearful shock” than “neck-slicing rage.” But she should have been able to get there. Especially after the episode already had her making a promise to sate Negan’s paranoia and let bygones be bygones, and ALSO after she had to rely on his help so much when going into Whisperer mode. This entire season has been Maggie taking shit talk from Negan in front of others, followed by her visibly seeking Negan’s expertise for one thing or another, and that's when he's not leaving her to die. It’s one thing for her to avoid the act of killing him, but it’s bordering on insulting for her to constantly need him in any way.

I think if nothing else, everyone should come to the agreement that Maggie gets to knock one of Negan’s eyes out using a baseball bat, but that’s it. No further squelch-laden downswings. 

Why Maggie And Negan's Big Talk Was Effective Anyway

On the other hand, of course, Maggie and Negan’s various scenes throughout “Promises Broken” did take their shared presence to a new level, which no doubt needed to happen so that the characters could co-exist without Maggie’s non-rewardable animosity growing stale. Rather than basing Maggie’s subdued vengeance solely on Negan’s usefulness, showrunner Angela Kang and her writing team wisely allowed Negan to once again offer up insight into what his life was like as the Saviors’ leader, casting further shadow on the concept of “good guys” and “bad guys” in a dying world.

For as important or powerful as it might have been for Negan to share his thoughts with, say, Lydia or Gabriel, those thoughts were colored completely differently as shared with Maggie. He put himself in a position of sympathy-deserving leader whose community of survivors was struck with tragedy after Rick and Team Family attacked the Saviors’ satellite outpost, which is a weird if authentic road to take with someone whose husband he slaughtered as payback for that attack. But he obviously had a point, since many fans of The Walking Dead likely thought of those Saviors as “future victims” as soon as they were brought up, without a thought going to what those characters’ lives were like. And judging from Lauren Cohan’s performance, I can easily believe that Maggie never actually looked at it from that angle before.

And for as much as it sucked to watch Negan take pleasure in his Whisperer-aping superiority, as well as to watch him share his regrets over not murdering Maggie and all of her friends, there wasn’t any malice behind his actions. With the first, he was able to return to his gym teacher roots in offering advice and praise as during Maggie’s tutorial session, and with the second, Negan convinced her that while he’s not completely shunning the monster he used to be, he’s not that same guy anymore. Granted, he might be just as strategic and practical and situationally ruthless, but he’s different in other ways.

While offering some behind-the-scenes tidbits about some of the episode’s bigger moments, showrunner Angela Kang touched upon the Maggie and Negan of it all, fully believing that Negan knows he messed up in not killing everyone else beyond Glenn and Abraham. (She does note that it’s a “very, very dark position,” just in case anyone thought she was cackling with laughter while talking about it.) Over a montage of the show’s former villains — from Shane to The Governor to Gareth and beyond — here’s how she explained the show’s consistent attempts to color the many antagonists with a bit of humanity. 

So while I'm not going to be pleased as punch if Maggie is letting Negan braid her hair and shit in the Walking Dead's fall finale next Sunday, I'll be slightly less bothered when the episode doesn't end with Maggie using Negan's groin as a golf tee. Woo, doggie — or just Dog — The Walking Dead kicked off its long-awaited Season 11 with tons of seemingly dormant (and definitely gross) walkers, some updates from our friends in the Commonwealth, and a selection of intense exchanges between Jeffrey Dean Morgan's Negan and Lauren Cohan's Maggie. The two characters barely interacted following Maggie's return in Season 10, with the guarantee that the new season would bring new layers of discomfort. And it only took ONE episode for Negan to name-drop Glenn and then leave Maggie behind to potentially become walker chow. I mean, gawDAMN.

Considering The Walking Dead's Season 11 promos have given us footage of Maggie that clearly wasn't represented in the premiere, titled "Acheron: Part 1," the cliffhanger was less a question about Maggie surviving, and more a question of Negan's WTF motivations. There's no one better to explain it than Jeffrey Dean Morgan himself, and he talked to TV Line about just how aware of his actions Negan was in that moment when he chose not to help Maggie climb up atop the subway car and away from the walkers below.

To give Negan some credit here, he made a choice during what appeared to be an opportune moment to possibly ensure both his survival and a future without Maggie's seething hatred hanging over his head at every given moment. Knowing that she'll almost definitely survive doesn't quite change that, although it does add a load of backseat-driver criticism to the regrettable decision. He should be trying to give her fewer reasons to skin him in his sleep, but I guess any lesson learned is a good one.

And to be honest, Negan's last-minute non-action might not have been SO egregious to Maggie (and presumably soon Daryl and more) had Negan not gone and dropped a G-bomb by referencing Maggie's murdered hubby. Especially since he brought him up by self-referencing the way that he, Negan, so ruthlessly shattered Glenn's skull with Lucille:

Sure, that audacious name-drop earned Negan one of Daryl's fists upside his face, but that's the kind of knife-twisting comment that will no doubt have residual consequences attached. Even on top of whatever happens to him next for leaving Maggie behind. Wouldn't it be something if The Walking Dead went full Seinfeld finale and put Negan back in jail under the Good Samaritan law?

Jeffrey Dean Morgan thinks that Negan's biggest fans will understand his thought process when it comes to leaving Maggie to die. But it's hard to tell if that really makes the move not that villainous, or if it means Negan's biggest fans are down with villainous behavior. It's probably a lot of both, but let us know what you think in the poll below!

Ever since the DC Animated Original Movies line launched in 2007, it’s provided plenty of direct-to-video Batman adventures, most recently with the two-part adaptation of Batman: The Long Halloween. Catwoman, who’s been part of the Batman mythos since 1940’s Batman #1 (the same issue The Joker debuted in) has shown up in many of these direct-to-video movies, usually as a supporting protagonist rather than a villain. Now it’s been announced that Catwoman is finally getting her own animated movie, and its lineup of actors includes notable folks from The Walking Dead and Better Call Saul.

An anime-style flick called Catwoman: Hunted is being lined up for an early 2022 release, and will star Dynasty actress Elizabeth Gillies as Selina Kyle. The story follows Selina attempting to steal a priceless jewel that subsequently sees her being targeted by a swarm of DC supervillains, Interpol and even Batwoman, voiced by Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s Stephanie Beatriz. Among the lineup of baddies is Black Mask, voiced by Better Call Saul’s Jonathan Banks, while Julia Pennyworth, voiced by The Walking Dead’s Lauren Cohan, will undoubtedly be part of the Interpol team hunting down Catwoman.

As reported by THR, Catwoman: Hunted’s cast also includes Steven Blum as Solomon Grundy, Keith David as Tobias Whale, Zehra Fazal as Talia al Ghul and Nosferata, Jonathan Frakes as King Faraday and Boss Moxie, Kirby Howell-Baptiste as Barbara Minerva/Cheetah, Kelly Hu as Cheshire, Andrew Kishino as Mr. Yakuza and Domino 6, Eric Lopez as Domino 1, Jacqueline Obradors as La Dama, and Ron Yuan as Doctor Tzin. Shinsuke Terasawa is directed Hunted off a script written by Young Justice’s Greg Weisman. The movie will arrive over a decade after Eliza Dushku’s version of Catwoman from Batman: Year One was spotlighted in her own DC Showcase short.

Elizabeth Gillies turn as Catwoman follows after the late Naya Rivera voiced the character in the Batman: The Long Halloween animated movies. While a specific release date hasn’t been set for Catwoman: Hunted yet, it sounds like it’ll come out around the same time as Matt Reeves’ The Batman, which will see Zoë Kravitz playing Selina Kyle opposite Robert Pattinson’s Bruce Wayne. In Hunted’s case though, while it won’t be entirely lacking in Bat-heroes, Batman won’t be showing up at all, unless there will be a surprise cameo.

Catwoman has come a long way over the last eight decades, going from a traditional supervillain to more frequently being depicted as an anti-hero/ally to the Bat-Family. Selina and Bruce Wayne are even all but officially married in the main DC Comics continuity. So with such increased prominence, it’s fitting that Catwoman finally get her own animated movie to shine in. Whether that will eventually happen in live-action is unclear, though at the very least such a project should be greenlit to help drive the critically-dreaded Halle Berry-led Catwoman movie to further obscurity.

Before Catwoman: Hunted is released on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital HD, DC animated movie fans can look forward to the Injustice adaptation coming out later this year, with that movie’s cast including This is Us’ Justin Hartley as Superman and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds’ Anson Mount as Batman. While Hollywood loves a good revenge thriller like Nobody or even Cruella, vengeance-worthy situations usually play out differently on TV, where short and sweet storylines need expanding. Such is the case with The Walking Dead, where Lauren Cohan's Maggie Rhee has every reason to kill Jeffrey Dean Morgan's Negan, considering he smooshed her husband's head in several years prior to where the characters are currently at in Season 11. But will Maggie ever truly get an eye-for-an-eye revenge by killing Negan off? Perhaps surprisingly, Cohan may not fully be on board with the idea, for Maggie's sake.

Lauren Cohan doesn't seem to be too keen on Maggie going through the motions of making Negan pay the ultimate price for killing Glenn, and she explained that reasoning to EW, saying:

Perhaps if the Walking Dead characters were still consumed by the immediate aftermath of Negan's arrival, things would be different for Maggie, and Lauren Cohan might have felt more comfortable with her character plowing through moral codes in order to take Jeffrey Dean Morgan's villain down. But that was many years ago within the show's narrative (as well as the real world), and Maggie is at a different place in her life now.

For one, she learned how to survive as a widow and single mother while away from the communities that she'd called home for so long, facing many more challenges along that way that probably helped to mute the more acute pain from Glenn's death. As well, she's come across other villainous characters in her years away from the show's main characters, putting her up close and personal with villains every bit as murderous as Negan, and presumably ones with less personality and wit. (See: Season 11's Reapers.) So upon returning to her former friends and home — R.I.P. Hilltop — and seeing that Negan has unbelievably rehabilitated himself in some ways, it might not be as easy for Maggie to flip on the "kill 'em all" switch as easily as it was in the past.

Lauren Cohan spoke directly about Hershel's role in Maggie's life, explaining how taking the higher road with Negan is also meant to inform any future generations that come out of this mess.

Which isn't to say that Negan and Maggie are going to share all kinds of heartwarming moments throughout the entire duration of Season 11, and it's not even a guarantee that Maggie won't kill Negan in some way, shape or form. Sure, they'll probably have to rely on each other's help a time or two, but it'll never be 100% comfortable.

The Walking Dead is gearing up to take fans through the final stretch of the zombie apocalypse's flagship series, with the first of Season 11's three eight-episode bursts debuting on AMC in August. Considering how long the season has been filming, the network has already unveiled quite a few first looks from the final season, but we now finally have the very first full-length Season 11 trailer, which you can check out above.

The trailer debuted as part of The Walking Dead's Comic-Con@Home panel, where some new cast members were also announced. One can only assume it would have made the Hall H crowds scream with glee had it aired for everyone in person. It's packed with some of the most horror-riffic moments we've seen from the series in recent years, and we now have a better idea of how strained this "working" relationship is going to be between Jeffrey Dean Morgan's Negan and Lauren Cohan's Maggie. In the sense that Maggie makes all the rules, and Negan better not fuck up. Though it's hard to tell if she's the one that's forcing him to burn that baseball bat.

But enough about emotional character drama, and more about horror fun! Lauren Ridloff's Connie, whose return was teased in Season 10, looks like she'll be in a giant homage to the genre alongside fellow returning character Virgil, as portrayed by Kevin Carroll. The knife-through-the-wall-by-her-face bit looked fun, and I so hope their creepy house exploration is full of those kinds of sequences. Which it probably will be if Connie and Virgil are being stalked by the freaky new villains.

First mentioned by Maggie as the group that made life a living hell for her during her years away from Alexandria and Hilltop, The Reapers are now coming to cause chaos for her former stomping grounds now that she's back. And while this new group definitely looks like the post-apocalypse's most popular Slipknot cover band, they definitely stand apart from the Whisperers as far as masked villainous clans go. There's something militarized about their aesthetic and tactics, too. Regardless, the Reapers were central to some of the coolest moments in the trailer, thanks to their distinct visual appeal, so here's hoping there's more to them than just that.

Those unpredictable villains aren't the only new characters to pop up, either. This is one of the few trailers that can boast its own version of a post-credits scene, as it depicts part a promotional video for The Commonwealth, the comic book location that will presumably serve as a major hub for the entirety of Season 11. The VHS quality makes it seem like this video is quite old, with 13 Reasons Why star Josh Hamilton taking on the role of Lance Hornsby (as revealed by showrunner Angela Kang during the panel).

Judging by the complete lack of sunshine-friendly smiles and helpful strangers in the rest of the trailer, I'm guessing The Commonwealth isn't quite at the same level of prosperity as it was when that promo was first produced. I'm also guessing Lance's sense of style is slightly different now. If only we could all have something as fashionable and life-saving in our closets as Michael James Shaw's Mercer uniform.

Grab all the protective gear you can, as The Walking Dead will kick off its extended final season on AMC on Sunday, August 22, at 9:00 p.m. ET, as part of a packed 2021 Fall TV season.

When it comes to Modern Family, there are so many stories and characters who intersect on a regular basis. While there have been celebrities who have popped up for recurring storylines on the long-time running show, there have also been several Modern Family actors who have appeared once or twice.

Most of these you might have forgotten, as some were from a long time ago. I mean, the show did run for eleven seasons, so there are guaranteed to be plenty of guest stars who have disappeared into the backs of our minds. These ten actors and actresses appeared on Modern Family at some point in time – let’s see how many you can remember.

Lin-Manuel Miranda (Guillermo)

He certainly didn’t throw away his shot to be on TV.

Before the success of Hamilton and the worldwide phenomenon that Lin-Manuel Miranda became, he was known for a few smaller projects, one of which was In The Heights, a Tony-award-winning production. However, prior to him starting to expand his horizons with amazing work such as Moana, Mary Poppins Returns and more, Miranda had a guest spot on Modern Family.

In this episode, he portrays Guillermo, a man who meets Gloria at a grocery store where he works. Gloria decides to bring him home to pitch his innovative dog training ideas to Jay. It’s certainly a smaller guest role, but even funnier to watch now that Lin-Manuel Miranda has reached higher heights of fame.

Winston Duke (Dwight)

To be honest, M’Baku was one of my favorite parts of Black Panther, just because, with all the drama that of that now-classic, he had some of the best one-liners in the movie. However, prior to him appearing in the hit Marvel movie, as well as the horror-thriller Us, he appeared in a couple of episodes of Modern Family.

In his episodes, Dwight, Duke’s character, was the star player on the football team that Cameron coached, and he ended up staying with Cam and Mitchell for a while after his home life became unstable. While he wasn’t in the series for long, his story certainly had more impact than many other pop-up celebrities who have appeared on the show.

Dan Levy (Jonah)

Before his success on the mega-hit that was Schitt’s Creek, Dan Levy had some smaller guest appearances on shows like Modern Family. While Schitt’s Creek was already on air at the time, it would take a while for the show to become as popular as it did. And, his character was just as hilarious as you would expect him to be.

Jonah, Levy’s character, is actually a courtroom sketch artist, who draws unflattering pictures of Mitchell when they are in court. Is it silly? Yes. It is still hilariously funny? Of course it is. It’s Dan Levy. You really can’t go wrong.

Keegan-Michael Key (Tom)

While Keegan-Michael Key has had plenty of work on his hands, from his projects on TV hits like Key & Peele, to movies like Jingle Jangle and Pinocchio, which will be coming out in the next couple of years, he is no stranger to guest roles on sitcoms. That’s exactly what happened with Modern Family.

In this episode, Key’s character, Tom, is part of a couple that Claire and Phil meet while on vacation. While they do hit it off and end up all going on double dates together, it seems that Claire and Phil always ended up with the check – a truly annoying circumstance. But, I mean, how can you not smile when eating dinner with Keegan-Michael Key? I’d pay for his check any time.

Edward Norton (Izzy)

While he was, most certainly, extremely famous prior to making his appearance on Modern Family, Edward Norton was still a great addition to the cast for one episode. While Norton has been in such hits as Fight Club and American History X, he takes a bit of a turn in this – a comedic one.

Norton’s character, Izzy, is hired by Claire because she believes that he was once part of Phil’s favorite band. Hilariously, though, was not and Phil has no idea where any of his music came from, creating a mess of a situation where they basically invited a total stranger into their home. Sounds like a normal Dunphy weekday, to me.

James Marsden (Barry)

This was one I really forgot because it was so early in the series that it happened, but it doesn’t change the fact that it’s not a hilarious moment. You’ve seen James Marsden play a wide variety characters in films like Hairspray, the X-Men franchise, maybe even The Notebook, but in Modern Family, he’s simply a hot guy in a hot tub.

Seriously, that’s his role. In this early episode of Modern Family, Marsden plays Barry, a man that Cam and Mitchell find in their hot tub one night and decide that because he’s good-looking, they’ll allow him to stay. Near the end of the episode, thought, they end up finding out he has been staying in their daughter’s playhouse in the back. I can’t tell you how uncomfortably funny I found the episode the first time I saw it.

Aisha Tyler (Wendy)

Aisha Tyler, best known for her work in some big-time TV shows like Ghost Whisperer and Criminal Minds, also ended up stopping by the Modern Family set at one point for a guest appearance. In this episode, she plays Wendy, a former classmate of Mitchell’s at law school.

What’s even more interesting is that Mitchell actually ends up reporting to Wendy at the legal aid society which she founded, so it intertwines their lives even further. While it’s one of the most low-key guest appearances on this list, it’s certainly one of the best ones, in my opinion, for how natural it felt.

Josh Gad (Kenneth)

Ah…do you remember pre-Frozen Josh Gad? I swear every time I hear his voice now, all I can think about is Olaf. But, then I see his face and I’m reminded that he’s been really funny ion several things, and that was no different when he made his guest appearance on Modern Family.

In this episode from 2011, Phil meets Kenneth, a man who is now a billionaire because he, ironically, looked up to Phil and idolized him, trying to achieve his success through some of the methods that Phil used in the past. While the guest appearance is one of the older ones here, it creates a great character-building moment for Phil, establishing the question “what would Phil Dunphy do?”

John DiMaggio (Boat Captain)

Line this up as another one of those cameos that have surely evaded your mind. John DiMaggio actually had an appearance on the show. You may not recognize his face, but his voice is one of the most iconic out there, as he plays a robot that everyone loves – that’s right, he's Bender from Futurama. Which makes this rare guest appearance so much more fun.

In this episode, DiMaggio simply plays a boat captain, who stops Gloria, Jay, and Mitch from boarding. Again, it was so long ago, and such a small role, but if you know, you know.

Lauren Cohan (Receptionist)

I can almost guarantee that you didn’t remember this one – because I certainly didn’t. As a The Walking Dead fan, I know Lauren Cohan as soon as I see her. I know who she is and how awesome of an actress she is. So, color me surprised when I re-watched the show and noticed that she actually had a Modern Family guest role.

Don’t be shocked, it was quite a small role. She played a receptionist who guided our favorite characters in the right direction. But, I mean, if you’re a fan of The Walking Dead or even Supernatural, you know exactly who she is, which makes her appearance even more entertaining to see.

Which one of these surprised you the most? It’s a shame that Modern Family won’t be on the 2021 TV schedule but I’m sure there will be so many other comedies to look forward to as well – with even more amazing guest appearances.

When The Walking Dead made its long-awaited return with its extended Season 10 episodes, star Lauren Cohan was thankfully able to truly settle back into playing Maggie, since her official return in Episode 1016 was necessarily more limited. Fans learned more about what Maggie was up to during her years away from Alexandria and the now-destroyed Hilltop, and were introduced to a new villainous threat. But on the more positive side, the character also delivered some very meaningful name-drops, with Emily Kinney's Beth and Scott Wilson's Hershel among the R.I.P. references.

Maggie was able to speak lovingly about her past during multiple scenes, first during a heart-to-heart conversation with Norman Reedus' Daryl, and then later with Angel Theory's Kelly. Understandably, Lauren Cohan was pleased to be able to give those long-gone Walking Dead characters (and the actors who portrayed them) some love and attention. Here's how she put it in an interview with AMC.com:

Indeed, The Walking Dead could have easily found ways to carelessly shoehorn verbal callbacks to Beth and the short-lived Shawn, but Maggie's situation allows for some truly organic and genuine motivations for her to talk about the many family members she lost over the years, not to mention Steven Yeun's Glenn. Raising a child in the post-apocalypse is presumably hard enough as it is, so being able to share stores with Hershel about his namesake, his father, and his family legacy is a much-needed way for Maggie to teach her son while also digging into some cherished memories that have nothing to do with walkers or Negan.

Even beyond her parental role, Maggie was also able to bond with Kelly over the idea of sisterly love, and the pain that comes with losing them. Granted, Connie is still alive out there for Kelly to reunite with at some point, while Beth was ruthlessly killed off back in Season 5. (Though not as ruthlessly as she could have been, I guess.) Cohan continued:

Considering even the opening scene featured references to Andrew Lincoln's Rick and Danai Gurira's Michonne (though without names being used), it's almost hard to remember the long era in which The Walking Dead purposefully avoiding having its characters remembering killed-off characters and talking about past events. Obviously, the show wouldn't be very fun if it only consisted of characters reliving old times, but it's definitely more reflective of real life for people to at least sometimes reminisce and be mournful. Hell, Negan is getting an entire episode to delve into his backstory.

Here, Lauren Cohan gives showrunner and executive producer Angela Kang credit for bringing that element into recent seasons and for allowing characters to handle their grief so that they might move beyond it at some point.

Don't expect to see Lauren Cohan's Maggie waxing nostalgic with Jeffrey Dean Morgan's Negan anytime soon, however. She might not end up bashing his brains in like he did to Glenn, but I don't foresee a point when they'll be able to talk to each other with anything but antipathy oozing from Maggie's every pore. And so help me, if he attempts to bond with Li'l Hershel the way he did with Judith, I'll jump into my TV and slap him myself.

With the big Whisperers War having officially concluded with Beta's death in the sixteenth episode of Season 10, in what was supposed to originally be the season finale, The Walking Dead returned to viewers for a six-episode epilogue for those events, while setting up bigger stories to come in Season 11 later this year. Before exploring Negan's backstory and showing fans what's happening with Eugene, Princess and the (presumed) Commonwealth soldiers, the zombie drama started off by catching everyone back up with Maggie's situation and what she was up to prior to returning.

With this latest episode, The Walking Dead introduced a new villainous faction, a few new characters from Maggie's recent past (that didn't all survive) and it fully brought Lauren Cohan's badass back into the fold for good. Naturally, though, everything we saw in the episode sparked a few questions, so let's run through those below while waiting to see next week's Daryl-centric episode.

Who Are The Walking Dead's Reapers?

Unlike many of The Walking Dead's other villain groups, the Reapers didn't originate in Robert Kirkman's comic book series, and are an original creation for the TV show. Which means we unfortunately don't know much beyond the minimal details that Maggie and her crew offered up. We know that their M.O. apparently involves setting fire to buildings that others are staying in, and that they're formidable enough to have Maggie, Cole and others shaking in their shoes at the very idea of them being around. Assuming the dude who blew himself up was indeed a Reaper, we also know that they're apparently really into camouflage, hiding, and setting up traps for unsuspecting humans to get caught in.

What Happened To Georgie, Hilda, And Midge?

The Walking Dead finally gave audiences another update on Jayne Atkinson's one-and-done character Georgie, who first appeared in Season 8's "The Key" along with Kim Ormiston's Hilda and Misty Ormiston's Midge. Maggie told Daryl she hadn't seen Georgie in around two years, after having previously helped out several communities together. While they were around Knoxville, Georgie heard about a "city out west" that caught her attention, and Maggie hadn't heard from her since. Is Georgie still out there helping people, and will Atkinson (who is currently part of the Clarice cast) return to The Walking Dead at any point in the future?

When Will Connie Reconnect With Daryl, Kelly And The Others?

Thankfully, The Walking Dead revealed in Episode 1016 that Lauren Ridloff's character Connie is indeed still alive after going missing underground in the caves earlier in the season. However, it doesn't look like's she'll be quickly reunited with her sister Kelly, her buddy Daryl, or anyone else. In "Home Sweet Home," Kelly straight up put others in harm's way on the off-chance that Connie was hiding out nearby, but her search came up empty. I certainly hope we don't have to wait until Season 11 to witness that sibling reunion, but it's looking pretty likely.

Is Cole Now The Walking Dead's Newest Badass?

As portrayed by James Devoti, the new character Cole is clearly one of Maggie's more trustworthy compadres from her time away from Alexandria and Hilltop, and it looks like he might be The Walking Dead's newest badass for fans to get hyped about. It's an interesting update, considering the masked Elijah absolutely looked primed to take over that role when he first appeared. Cole has major walker-killing skills, he's a practical thinker, and he even got to show off a mini-sense of humor with Kelly. He's basically Daryl with much-cleaner hair and a more sensible weapon.

How Did Elijah's Sister Die?

After Maggie learned about Connie's disappearance, she revealed that Elijah's sister was recently killed. It probably doesn't matter that much to the plot what happened there, but it would certainly give the wordless character more development at some point down the line. Is it just me, or did it seem more relevant due to Maggie talking about Emily Kinney's long-gone Beth a couple of times? As well as Judith's role as a big sister.

How Will Maggie Deal With Negan's Presence?

After witnessing that tense moment between Maggie and Jeffrey Dean Morgan's Negan in the opening scene, The Walking Dead then gave the explicit reveal that Maggie left the Hilltop Colony because she didn't want Negan taking up more of her headspace as she raised Hershel. She brought Glenn's death up during her conversation with Daryl, driving home the fact that Negan's freedom and continued survival is not ideal for her. And to his credit, Daryl said that Negan's situation wasn't set in stone, so it's feasible that Negan might get ostracized in some way, setting up strange complications when the time is right.

We probably shouldn't expect to learn many or any of these answers soon, since each of these final Season 10 episodes of The Walking Dead is focusing on a different small group of characters, and we might not get much more Maggie until Season 11. With The Walking Dead’s return quickly approaching, we can’t help but wonder what the long-awaited return of series regular Lauren Cohan’s character Maggie will be like. The woman has seen some hard times in the post-walker wasteland of a world, and that’s just the stuff we know about. Maggie was away for the six-year time jump and, apparently, the war-torn woman will be a lot harder than we remember, as revealed by showrunner Angela Kang.

We saw Maggie’s return in Season 10's finale, but will see more of the new Maggie in the upcoming bonus episodes. The Walking Dead showrunner Angela Kang, in an interview with TV Line, says Maggie has seen a lot of evil in the world and has had quite the transformation. In Kang’s own words:

We may have already seen a little bit of this Maggie that Angela Kang speaks of, remember when she hung Gregory at Hilltop without a trial instead of jailing him? That hanging was a lifetime ago in the world Maggie lives in, where death could be right around the corner, always. If that version of Maggie was just a sneak preview of what she is now, I would pity anyone who crosses the survivor.

In the same interview, Angela Kang says the new Maggie is a result of her shutting off her feelings in order to protect herself. However, she does give us a little bit of hope in saying that Maggie is still in there somewhere. Here it is in the showrunners own words:

We have been with Maggie through her losing her father and her sister and witnessing the love of her life get his brain bashed in. To imagine that Maggie has been through worse in the six years that have passed is mind boggling. However, she still has her and Glen’s son to protect. This may be the reason she's hardened herself to the world, to make sure the last person she has stays safe. Her son may also be the source of her remaining soft self Kang speaks of, and it will be interesting to see how Maggie approaches motherhood now that her son is no longer a baby.

Even though it sounds like we will be meeting a whole new Maggie, we are definitely overdue for some Lauren Cohan, and it will be great to see (what’s left of) the gang back together again for a bit. The Walking Dead returns tonight at 9 p.m. ET on AMC for the first of its bonus episodes, and we can’t wait to see how Maggie handles meeting the new Negan, who has his own kind of transformation!

While fans will still have to wait another 8 months or so until The Walking Dead kicks off its eleventh and final season on AMC, the cast and crew put together another six-episode stretch to tide everyone over, since we've only seen one new episode since last April. For everyone looking to get an intriguing sneak peek at the remaining Season 10 episodes, we've got a look at the opening minutes of Episode 1017, "Home Sweet Home," in which Lauren Cohan's Maggie comes face to face with an old demon in the form of Jeffrey Dean Morgan's Negan for the first time since she vacated in Season 9.

Check out The Walking Dead video below, which features far less eye-gouging and crotch-kicking than Walking Dead fans might have expected if Maggie crossed paths with Negan a lot sooner.

Let's dig into these opening minutes chronologically. We start off with Maggie showing off her zombie-killing badassery, which was awesome and arguably necessarily, since her return in Episode 1016 didn't give her enough time to shine in that department. (The same goes for her masked friend.) It's not like we see that much in this opening, but it counts for something. I mean, she knifed a walker's head to a horizontal tree branch while it was still standing. And she likely pictured Negan's head while she was doing it.

The new episode, which debuts on the AMC+ service a week ahead of its linear TV premiere on AMC proper, quickly gives fans another bit that was missing from Maggie's first episode back: a meaningful conversation between Maggie and Judith. And immediately, both Michonne and Rick were brought up, though not by name. (She was clearly talking about her emotional parents and not her biological ones.) Can't hate on the characters feeling good vibes by thinking about sleeping under the same sky as other people they love dearly.

Of course, it also means they're sleeping under the same stars as people they want nothing to do with. And while Judith bonded with Negan during his time locked up in Alexandria, Maggie is understandably still feeling the wounds that he gave her by bashing in Glenn's head. As great as it would be if Maggie and Steven Yeun's Glenn would reconnect in the in-development anthology series, that still wouldn't allow Negan to get away with that heinous act. The only way to balance things completely would be if Maggie could go back in time and kill Lucille, which is technically possible via fantasy sequence in the Season 10 finale, since Hilarie Burton Morgan will show up as Lucille in that episode.

So it's almost surprising that Maggie locked eyeballs with Negan for as long as she did without doing anything violent. Sure, she might not have wanted to do anything unjust in front of Judith, but there was also something else in Maggie that wasn't there in years prior. She's a more grounded character now, and has a bit of distance from that irredeemable act. But that doesn't mean she will take his freedom lightly. One can imagine the minutes after this opening will feature her hollering at anyone who will listen about why he still needs to be locked up. But will she convince anyone that her words hold merit? We'll just have to watch and see.

The Walking Dead will return to audiences with the final six episodes of Season 10 when "Home Sweet Home" debuts on AMC+ on Sunday, February 21, and on AMC proper on Sunday, February 28.

When The Walking Dead returns to AMC for the back six episodes of Season 10, it can probably be assumed that Eugene, Ezekiel, Yumiko and Princess will be the characters furthest from their normal elements, since they were last seen being discovered by the armor-wearing Commonwealth soldiers. But Jeffrey Dean Morgan's Negan is also in for some uncomfortable moments, as he's set to come face-to-face with Maggie again, only as a free man. Plus, viewers will likely watch live through the death of his wife Lucille, the inspiration for his eponymous baseball bat.

After having released a selection of table reads featuring various cast members, AMC finally gave fans more official looks at what's on the way in the final Season 10 episodes. So let's go over the two big Negan visuals before diving into the teaser video.

Negan And Lucille

In a particularly inspired bit of casting that was partially inspired by pandemic-related decisions, The Walking Dead cast Jeffrey Dean Morgan's real-life wife Hilarie Burton Morgan to play Negan's long-dead wife Lucille. The character is making a live-action debut within the episode "Here's Negan," which will be a quasi-adaptation of the character's standalone backstory that was released in a collected comic form in 2017. Fans previously caught a quick glimpse of the character in the teaser trailer for the upcoming episodes after the long-delayed Episode 16.

Interestingly, Lucille was rocking green hair in the previous promo, and in the image seen above, her hair is all purple. Not necessarily the kind of woman I'd picture Negan going for, but I guess she can't just be made of wood and wrapped in barb wire. And speaking of Mr. Fuckity Fuck, what is that shirt about? After seeing Jeffrey Dean Morgan rocking a leather jacket for so much of his time on The Walking Dead, it's a little jarring to see him in any kind of patterns. Especially ones that look like they match the tablecloth.

It's hard to know exactly how that episode will play out, but fans will almost definitely bear witness to some of Negan's darkest moments after Lucille gets sick and the world goes to hell around her. I'm here for it, though. They better not make Negan seem like an angelic soul before she dies, either.

Negan And Maggie

Presumably before viewers take a trip to the past for Negan and Lucille's relationship, we'll get to witness his first confrontation with Lauren Cohan's Maggie in years. And by all means, it likely won't be a peaceful affair, since the last thing she knew, he was locked up in a cell and still suffering for killing Glenn and causing Steven Yeun to exit the show. (Okay, the characters don't know who "Steven Yeun" is, so that part was me projecting.)

Negan luckily avoided Maggie's wrath upon her immediate return, during which she saved Father Gabriel, introduced everyone to her badass masked friend, and shared a lovely moment with Judith. But as teased in the image above, the two characters are definitely going to cross paths before Season 11 arrives, and I almost wouldn't put it past Maggie to shoot one of those arrows directly between his eyes. But she probably won't, because as vicious as Maggie can be, she's not immoral. So unless he finds a new way to piss her off to kingdom come, he might survive that encounter.

In the teaser trailer below, which matches characters with key pieces of dialogue, Negan's moment features him saying the line, "I didn't escape, if that's what you're thinking." That line almost has to be aimed at Maggie, right? I guess we'll have to wait and see whether or not she gives a shit.

Joining lots of other horror shows on the way in 2021, The Walking Dead will return to AMC for the final six episodes of Season 10 on Sunday, February 28, at 9:00 p.m. ET. A television era is ending with the series finale of Supernatural after 15 seasons, and the last batch of episodes brought back several familiar faces for a swan song. Not among those familiar faces has been Lauren Cohan, who played Bela Talbot well before she broke into the zombie apocalypse scene as Maggie on The Walking Dead. Like so many characters on Supernatural, Bela died a gruesome death. Unlike many others, however, Bela stayed dead, and Cohan didn't return after her departure back in Season 3. The actress has explained why.

Lauren Cohan spoke with CinemaBlend's Nick Venable ahead of Supernatural's final episodes, and she revealed that the AMC hit is part of why Bela remained off-screen following her untimely demise at the end of the third season. When asked if there were any conversations about her possibly returning to Supernatural, Cohan shared:

Bela didn't remain off-screen and dead because of a lack of interest in Lauren Cohan returning to Supernatural. The actress was simply too busy with The Walking Dead to have time to reprise her role on Supernatural when there was an opening. While that's a shame for Supernatural fans who might have wanted to see what happened to Bela since her soul was sent to Hell, Cohan has been part of huge arcs on The Walking Dead that couldn't have spared Maggie.

Of course, Lauren Cohan's Walking Dead co-star Jeffrey Dean Morgan is also a Supernatural alum, and he did actually reprise his role as John Winchester after a long absence back in Season 14 for the milestone 300th episode. Morgan was even interested in returning again before the end of the series, although the Supernatural showrunner confirmed ahead of the finale that neither John nor Mary Winchester would appear.

As Lauren Cohan noted, Bela and John Winchester had no reason to know each other (and John was long dead by the time Bela debuted), but it definitely could have been fun to add Supernatural to the list of projects they've shared scenes in, after The Walking Dead and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Cohan had also previously mentioned that she would have been up for appearing in the final season, as Supernatural was her first TV experience and first job in the United States.

There was no way of knowing during Supernatural Season 3 back in 2007-2008 that Lauren Cohan would go on to join another major genre series with a passionate fanbase, with her debut as Maggie on The Walking Dead Season 2 still a few years off at that point. Maggie has managed to live a lot longer than Bela did, although certainly not without more than her fair share of heartbreak.

Maggie has returned to the zombie apocalypse action, and fans can expect to see her in the rest of Walking Dead Season 10 and Season 11. So, even if Bela won't be back on TV, Cohan will be back as Maggie. Supernatural fans can also relive Bela's run as a Supernatural antagonist with the third season streaming on Netflix now, along with plenty of other options on the streamer. Spoiler warning for those who haven't yet watched Fear the Walking Dead's latest Season 6 installment.

With Season 6's "The Key," Fear the Walking Dead delivered one of its most gripping and well-produced episodes to date, setting up Garret Dillahunt's John Dorie with a murder case he wasn't ever meant to actually solve. Rather, John was caught up in a larger scheme crafted by Colby Minifie's Virginia, who then rewarded him with June's return, all for going with the immoral flow without any major backlash. In praising him before the rest of the community, Virginia again hinted at another huge connection between Fear and the flagship Walking Dead series, by way of Lauren Cohan's Maggie and Jayne Atkinson's Georgie.

As this season has proven quite well, Virginia runs a tight (and often vindictive) ship in which she promotes and ranks her underlings by giving them keys meant to be adorned as proof of one's loyalty and skillset. While viewers no doubt picked up on John's discomfort with accepting Virginia's key knowing that she was responsible for both Cameron and Janis' deaths, what may not have been as obvious was Virginia's specific phrasing during the public event. Check it out below...

For anyone listening closely enough during those moments, Virginia's speech directly recalled the world-rebuilding manifesto that Jayne Atkinson's mysteriously clean-cut Georgie gave to Maggie back in The Walking Dead Season 8 for Episode 12, which was not-so-coincidentally ALSO called "The Key." With references that direct, it would be criminal for Virginia NOT to be connected to Maggie and Georgie somehow.

For those in need of a brief refresher, Georgie first appeared to Maggie, Michonne and Tara asking for crates of vinyl albums and whatever other music was up for grabs, with the promise of sharing her own goods with Hilltop and others. (Also worth noting is that she had a pair of enforcers with her named Midge and Hilda.) By the end of the episode, Georgie revealed that she only wanted a single crate from Maggie, and that she intended to continue her bartering and trading with the Team Family communities in the future. At that point, she gifted Maggie a big instruction-filled book of guidelines, how-tos and more meant to help rebuild civilization. The book's oh-so-relevant title? A Key to a Future, which is almost word for word what Virginia said above, save for some article change-ups.

Granted, Georgie never actually returned to The Walking Dead in the two seasons that came later, though the show did take a few leaps forward in time beyond that point. Maggie (and Lauren Cohan) vacated The Walking Dead in the midst of those time jumps, but the actress and character did indeed return for the most recent episode, "A Certain Doom," which was originally intended to be the Season 10 finale. While viewers still don't have any big inklings on what Maggie was up to during her years away from the core protagonists, she was indeed rocking some western-esque clothing and a cowboy hat when she arrived just in time to save Father Gabriel's life. Though a distinct look for Maggie, it's one that called to mind the aesthetic that Virginia and her group have become known for on Fear the Walking Dead.

To this point, I can't recall any moments when Virginia or her sister Dakota made references that could be directly tied back to Georgie herself, in the sense of them talking about a bespectacled blonde woman with a van full of weird shit. But the fact that Virginia is espousing a warped version of Georgie's societal mission still makes me quite suspicious that those two plot lines will end up being connected at some point down the road, presumably in a non-optimistic way.

Considering a recent episode reunited Austin Amelio's Dwight and Christina Evangelista's Sherry for the first time since The Walking Dead Season 7, and also considering how Fear introduced Beta's musical backstory long before TWD brought its explanation, it doesn't seem like a very big stretch of the imagination to imagine that Virginia and Maggie crossed paths at some point over the years. (Not to mention World Beyond's big reveal regarding the group that took Rick Grimes.) With the flagship series' distant endgame now in place, and plans for spinoffs in development, Scott Gimple & Co. might indeed be looking for more ways to connect the respective shows' dots.

As many Walking Dead fans are aware, Lauren Cohan's Maggie was supposed to return to our lives back in April for the Season 10 finale, but the dumpster fire that is 2020 had other plans. Instead, viewers had to wait until October to see Maggie come back into the narrative for the reveal-filled "A Certain Doom," which now serves as a bridge to the six installments that will close out the current season. The silver lining, however, is that the creative team has been working on future episodes in the interim, meaning Cohan now has a better idea of Maggie's future than she did before.

I had the pleasure of chatting it up with Lauren Cohan ahead of Episode 1016's debut, and she seemed pleased as punch to be back in the career-defining role of Maggie Rhee née Greene. On top of discussing what Maggie was up to during the time jump, which we'll get to further down, we also obviously talked about her relatively brief but all-important arrival in "A Certain Doom," so let's start there.

Maggie Returns To Save Father Gabriel

After getting the note about the Whisperers, Maggie miraculously arrived within the hospital just in time to save Father Gabriel alongside her metal-masked friend, totally shocking comic fans who were no doubt ready for Gabriel to bite the bullet. The smiles on their faces were probably the biggest smiles of any characters in Season 10, and Lauren Cohan told me those emotions were definitely as genuine as they come. Here's what she had to say about that scene playing into her big return episode.

It did almost seem like Maggie was taking lessons from the now-deceased Beta or something, seeing as how she stayed mostly quiet while letting her wistful and loving gazes do the talking. (It's like she was taking lessons Thankfully, she nailed her one line, all that (jokey) rehearsal work paid off. Really, it speaks to what Lauren Cohan said about the sense of levity and hope that instantly returned once Maggie was back with the current Team Family ensemble, which were present without the character having to say any words of comfort at all. Considering everything she's been through, if Maggie is smiling, we're all smiling.

What Comes Next For Maggie

Maggie apparently wasn't all smiles after first leaving the Hilltop, though. That's to be expected, what with the zombie apocalypse still happening, and surviving humans growing all the more desperate and dangerous as time goes by. (Not to mention this being The Walking Dead, where signs of happiness aren't always easy to come by.) During my conversation with Lauren Cohan, she talked about how viewers will definitely get to delve into her more recent past in upcoming episodes, as well as in Season 11. I asked about how much she knew of Maggie's time away – either from the script or hearing it from showrunner Angela Kang – and if she thought of Maggie's limited presence during her big return episode as more of an appetizer for what's yet to come. In Cohan's words:

So not only do fans now need to discover where Maggie went when she vacated Hilltop after Rick's disappearance, but we also need to learn who she was getting friendly with at the time (even beyond Mr. Masked Man), as well as what kinds of unpleasant people came along and tried to disrupt her happiness. Thankfully, we know she made it through everything not only intact, but also satisfied with her journey to a certain extent.

When I asked how she thought Maggie had changed as a character during that time period, that's when Lauren Cohan brought up the old demons that Maggie will have to contend with as she gets reacquainted with life in and around Alexandria.

Audiences can definitely expect for Negan to be one of those old demons, given his central role in Glenn's death. It's presumed that Maggie wasn't given constant updates about Negan's whereabouts, so she probably has no idea he's living as a free (if not exactly welcomed or appreciated) man these days. Their situation is definitely going to get heated whenever they cross each other's paths, so I hope Negan is ready to start groveling.

It's not entirely clear what other demons might be around to give Maggie trouble in future episodes, but it's awesome that she's going to have Lil' Hershel around to keep her company and make her feel better. In any case, it does seem clear Maggie's prior home wasn't exactly a perfect set-up, or else she would have gotten Father Gabriel, Daryl, Carol and everyone else to come to her instead of the other way around. Lauren Cohan agreed with that line of reasoning, too, saying:

Hopefully audiences won't be waiting too long to get answers about the past 6+ years of Maggie's life. The latter Season 10 episodes are heading into filming now so that The Walking Dead's traditional and well-oiled production schedule can presumably get back to normal in 2021 heading into the usual October premiere windows.

Following Episode 1016, The Walking Dead is heading back on hiatus so that the cast and crew can film the next six episodes in Season 10 before jumping into production on the eleventh and final season. (Well, at least the first twelve episodes.) Though it was delayed by around six months due to pandemic shutdowns, the 16th episode of The Walking Dead Season 10 finally dropped on AMC, and with it came all kinds of big reveals and noteworthy moments. While the installment is no longer the season finale as it was originally intended, "A Certain Doom" definitely still felt like one, and it served as an interesting lead-in to the latter six episodes that will be the bridge to the final season.

Below, we're going over the biggest takeaways from "A Certain Doom," from returning characters to exiting characters to ones we've never seen before in The Walking Dead's live-action universe. Let's kick things off with arguably the episode's most anticipated reveal, which involves Lauren Cohan rocking a new hat.

Maggie's Back!

Though she made her well-documented exit from The Walking Dead in the midst of Season 9 at the same time Andrew Lincoln bowed out, Lauren Cohan made her most triumphant comeback in "A Certain Doom," and she'll presumably be sticking around until the end of Season 11. Though Maggie's big return wasn't necessarily complicated, she did help save Father Gabriel from being killed off by Whisperers, she showed off her bow-and-arrow talents, and she also shared a very sweet reunion with Cailey Fleming's Judith. Now if only we knew what she was up to in all her years away from Hilltop and Alexandria...

Mr. Metal Mask Man Is Pretty Badass

Lauren Cohan's return didn't just bring Maggie back into the narrative fold, but it also introduced a mysterious new character that hides his identity behind an intimidating metal mask. Cohan told CinemaBlend that this new character is extremely loyal to Maggie, and vice versa, and that they've been through some hectic situations together. It's quite obvious that anyone who tries to mess with this masked badass will get their guts sliced right out of their bodies, but what isn't obvious is whether or not the face beneath that mask is a familiar one to longtime fans. Facial coverings aren't usually employed on TV for complete strangers, so there's a good chance that viewers have already met this character in the past.

Beta Is Dead, And The Whisperers Are No More (Probably)

It's almost hard to believe that when Season 10 started, it wasn't too long after Samantha Morton's Alpha and her Whisperers clan had beheaded that large group of protagonists. So much changed during the year, with Negan killing off Alpha, leaving Ryan Hurst's Beta to slowly lose his mind as the villainous group's de facto leader. In the end, his giant horde plot was mostly thwarted without causing too many fatalities, and Beta eventually met his own fate at the pointy ends of Daryl's knives. While most Walking Dead characters scream bloody murder when getting killed off, the blinded Beta chose to quietly embrace his death in a Buddhist-like manner while calmly allowing himself to be consumed by his rotted flock. It's likely Beta's death means the absolute end of the Whisperers, but I won't be surprised if there's at least one loyal follower still out there somewhere.

Carol Found Catharsis With Lydia, Carol And Tons Of Dead Walkers

This could obviously be said for several other seasons, but Carol has had a rough go in Season 10 so far, from mourning Henry and her relationship with Ezekiel to building her rivalry with Alpha to fighting her more suicidal urges. (Not to mention being largely responsible for setting up Connie's disappearance, which caused weird friction between her and Daryl.) By the end of Episode 1016, though, Carol seemed to cross an emotional chasm as she and Lydia cried together while all those walkers moronically kept walking off the edge of that cliff. Plus, she and Daryl seemed to knock the uncomfortable cobwebs off of their friendship, which will be at the heart of the Walking Dead's upcoming spinoff built around Norman Reedus and Melissa McBride. Will she continue holding her head high in future episodes, though?

Connie Is Alive!

Huzzah! After going missing within the cave system for the midseason premiere back in February, Lauren Ridloff's Connie remained completely absent – probably due to Ridloff's commitments to Marvel's Eternals – despite Magna finding her way back to the survivors at one point. Thankfully, though, "A Certain Doom" updated fans by confirming that Connie is still alive out there, even if she's looking worse for the wear. It's not clear exactly what's wrong with her, beyond a probable lack of water, food and good health, but here's hoping she can find food and a hot shower soon.

Virgil Is Back!

If anyone's going to be able to help Connie find that hot shower, it's Kevin Carroll's Virgil, who was last seen in Michonne's big farewell episode, in which he held her captive and sent her on a drugged-out trip back through her memories. Though it seemed like Virgil was going to stay holed up in the military building he'd lived in for years, it appears as if the character found a reason to leave "home," and also a reason to nab a horse and head to the other communities. It would be great if he had some kind of an update about Rick, or about that massive group of people we saw Michonne starting to follow back in Episode 1013, "What We Become."

Eugene's Group Met The Commonwealth Soldiers

Though Eugene was out in the world trying desperately to meet up with his radio buddy Stephanie, that's not who actually showed up to the meeting. Instead, he and Ezekiel, Yumiko and Princess were quickly surrounded by a large group of soldiers decked out in stylish armor that indicated a pretty advanced post-apocalyptic community was responsible for crafting them. The suits were probably instantly familiar to fans of The Walking Dead comic book series, who have no doubt been waiting to see exactly how the TV show would handle The Commonwealth, the franchise's first mega-community populated by thousands and thousands of survivors. While I would be bummed out if the live-action Stephanie set Eugene up, it'll still be awesome to see the introduction of Governor Milton and her underlings. But will that happen in the latter Season 10 episodes, or will we be waiting for Season 11?

For now, The Walking Dead is back on hiatus as the cast and crew prepare to go back into production on the final six episodes of Season 10. Of all the highly anticipated moments that The Walking Dead delivered with the long-delayed Episode 1016, one that had viewers chattering quite a bit ahead of time was the introduction of the mysterious masked companion that first showed up in the episode's extended promo. His arrival in "A Certain Doom" was definitely brief, but it was still pretty impressive, considering how well he worked his weaponry. Unfortunately, the episode ended without revealing the character's identity, only going so far as to have Maggie confirm it's a male beneath the mask.

Luckily, CinemaBlend recently spoke with The Walking Dead star Lauren Cohan ahead of Maggie's big return in Episode 1016, and while she obviously couldn't get into hot water with showrunner Angela Kang by divulging super-spoilery details, here's what the actress was able to tell me:

Lauren Cohan really gave a lot for us to think about while not really saying that much at all. First, she made it clear that Maggie and Masked Man are quite familiar with one another, which was something of an unspoken reveal in the episode, given the fact that he was the one accompanying her on this trip back to her former communities. In any case, Masked Man may very well have a better understanding of Maggie's current personality and worldview over anyone from Hilltop or Alexandria, which could make for some interesting personal conflicts later in Season 10 and into the final season.

As well, Lauren Cohan spoke to the as-yet-unknown dangers that Maggie and Masked Man went through together in the years after she left Hilltop behind, a series of events that Walking Dead viewers will likely be clued in on through future episodes. Speaking of the show's future, it sounds like we'll be meeting up with more of Maggie's newer crew at some point. But will their identities be hidden like Masked Man, or will they be more free to show their faces to outsiders? (Also, can someone make sure that Jayne Atkinson's Georgie is one of those friends?)

Finally, Lauren Cohan immediately cleared up any potentially festering curiosities about Maggie having found a new romantic partner in her masked compadre. Even though they showed up at the hospital together, they didn't show up at the hospital together-together. It's possible that some fans might have thought Masked Man was a live-action stand-in for the comic book's Dante, whose lovey-dovey relationship with Maggie was severely remixed when Juan Javier Cardenas portrayed the character earlier in Season 10. Cohan commented a bit more about that point, saying:

If Maggie doesn't feel the need to love any other men in her life beyond Lil Hershel, then that's perfectly fine by me. Especially if it means we get to see Lil' Hershel in the immediate future, along with tons of baby pictures that instantly remind us of Steven Yeun's Glenn and Scott Wilson's O.G. Hershel. How weird would it be if Masked Man was some kind of genetically modified version of Lil Hershel?

I also had a chance to talk to The Walking Dead's Seth Gilliam about the Masked Man's first big action moment, which came about just when it looked like Father Gabriel would be killed off by a few random Whisperer dipshits. Of course, the actor also couldn't get into any spoiler-heavy talk about the new character, as he shared viewers' lack of information about who Masked Man was whenever he and Maggie showed up just in the nick of time. Here's what Gilliam thought of Masked Man:

Obviously, The Walking Dead has featured lots of characters who have rocked specific weapons in the past, but I gotta agree with Seth Gilliam that Masked Man and his mini-scythes/sickles rocks, and he'll no doubt continue to prove himself a force to be reckoned with for anyone who tries to get in Maggie's way. (Not that her bow-and-arrow skills wouldn't already do some damage on their own.) For now, though, Masked Man's greatest weapon against fans is arguably his unidentifiable nature.

Having left The Walking Dead in the midst of its ninth season back in 2018, Lauren Cohan is returning on a full-time basis for the Season 10 extension, and she'll likely be sticking around until the AMC drama closes out Season 11 in 2022. That's obviously fantastic news for both Maggie and the character's fervent fanbase, with viewers getting their first glimpse of her return during the long-delayed "A Certain Doom," which was initially meant to close out the season back in April. But could Cohan also appear elsewhere in the franchise?

I'm not talking about Lauren Cohan following Lennie James and Austin Amelio to join Fear the Walking Dead, but rather having Maggie take part in an episode (or more) of the impending anthology spinoff Tales of the Walking Dead, which will delve into untold stories from this undead universe, both involving familiar characters and new ones. Appearing on AMC's recent Walking Dead-verse preview special, Cohan said she would love to see episodes focusing on Alpha and Father Gabriel's respective backstories. But when I spoke with the actress this week about Season 10's pseudo-finale, I asked if she would be interested in the show showing unseen moments from Maggie and Glenn's past prior to Negan's deadly arrival. Cohan truly seemed touched by the idea, saying:

I'm pretty sure that fans would go absolutely bananas if Steven Yeun agreed to return to the role of Glenn for a flashback episode of Tales of The Walking Dead, especially if the point was to showcase previously unseen moments from his relationship with Maggie. Glenn's brutal death in the Season 7 premiere (along with Abraham's) was a major breaking point for some viewers, so Yeun and Cohan's TV reunion could hypothetically bring a bunch of fans back into the fold if it would ever happen.

After thinking on it for a second, Lauren Cohan did talk about one particular point in the Walking Dead timeline that she'd like to return to, and speculated that fans could possibly see it happen at some point. In her words:

The dinner scene she's talking about is, of course, the dream sequence from the Season 7 premiere, in which Glenn is shown to be alive and well and holding onto Baby Hershel, despite the fact that his head had already been turned to jelly in the real world. It would definitely be interesting to see what kinds of moments were filmed that didn't end up making it into the episode. I'm assuming nothing with Maggie and Negan playing charades or anything like that.

In any case, it sounds like Lauren Cohan would be on board with bringing Maggie and Glenn back to fans for at least one episode of the Tales of the Walking Dead anthology show. For what it's worth, while Steven Yeun had his issues with Glenn's portrayal over the years, he did say back in 2018 that he wasn't interested in reprising the Young Glenn that Rick first met in Season 1, but didn't fully turn down the idea of returning to the character at a later age.

Here's hoping Scott Gimple, Walking Dead showrunner Angela Kang and all the other producers are listening, and that they don't plan on keeping Lauren Cohan too busy filming upcoming TWD episodes that the Maggie and Glenn reunion would be impossible to put together. (And if they are listening: Hey, Scott and Angela!)

Rarely do TV fans have to wait months between a show's penultimate episode and its "fantastic" season finale, but The Walking Dead was forced into an awkward position as it aimed to close out Season 10, with everything shutting down just before the post-production process on Episode 16, "A Certain Doom." Thus, fans have been left in the dark about everyone's fate since April's cliffhanger, and we won't learn what actually happened until October. Which means my curiosity about the finale has only taken up that much more of my brain-space.

Now that we know when The Walking Dead will return to AMC to air "A Certain Doom" (and that it will later be followed by six more episodes to bridge the gap to Season 11), we can anticipate some of our biggest questions finally being answered. Without further ado, let's dive into some of the big mysteries that Season 10 still needs to provide solutions for.

Who Is The Masked Stranger?

One of the biggest mysteries in all of Season 10 came in the finale's first trailer, which featured an unknown character wearing a mask and wielding a pair of handheld scythes. It seems like the character shows up to help Aaron and Alden take out the Whisperers that surrounded them, but really, the masked stranger could definitely be an enemy. The characters that have already been theorized to be behind the mask are plentiful: Morgan (back from his Fear the Walking Dead stint), Morgan's Son Duane (who'd have to have somehow survived his Season 3 fate), the comic book's Mercer, or even a completely new character who wasn't in the source material. I certainly hope it's not the latter option, and that the reveal is a meaningful one to viewers.

Is Ezekiel Doomed?

Ever since Khary Payton's Ezekiel dodged his comic counterpart's fate by surviving the big group beheading, it seems as if the character has been living on borrowed time, especially after it was revealed he's suffering from thyroid cancer. Having seemingly squashed his suicidal thoughts, Ezekiel seems like he's found a new lease on life after having met Princess during the trek to find Stephanie, but a change in emotional state is hardly a cure for cancer. So, will Ezekiel survive the finale, or will he get killed off before reaching the metaphorical promised land that is the Commonwealth?

Will Eugene's Group Reach The Commonwealth?

Speaking of the game-changing comic book setting that has yet to be introduced in live-action, the Commonwealth is presumably the major destination that Eugene, Yumiko, Ezekiel and Princess will come across next. However, it's not guaranteed that they'll actually reach the location in the Season 10 finale, since that might be too easy. It's just as likely that Eugene's group will run into some trouble with the Commonwealth's security outside the gates, meaning fans will have to wait until possibly Season 11 to see the inside of the heavily populated refuge. Here's hoping we can at least get an in-person look at Eugene's radio buddy Stephanie.

Beyond Possibly Ezekiel, Which Of The Protagonists Will Die?

While it's true that The Walking Dead could pull off its Season 10 finale without permanently killing off any of the good guys, so to speak, I definitely don't see that happening. So, who's it going to be? The first finale images make it seem like Daryl is going to get picked off by a random Whisperer among the walkers, but that's not so likely. It's also possible that the masked stranger could take out Aaron or Alden with ease. But of all the major characters that could bite the dust, my money is on Father Gabriel. The character had quite a memorably gruesome death in the comics, and while that likely won't play out in the same way on the TV show, his time has probably come.

Who Gets To Kill Beta?

While Alpha served as a proper big bad thanks to her all-around warped psychology and extroverted nature, Beta has been a far more subdued (and musical) villain while amassing walkers to lay out his big attack scheme. As such, I can't imagine the character surviving the finale and making it to Season 11, and that makes me wonder who will get to take Beta out. Daryl is an easy choice, given the pair's earlier rumble in Season 9, and Negan also fits there, given his own past with the hulking villain. But I kinda think The Walking Dead's creative team will allow Lydia to permanently take Beta out, given his involvement with raising her in the Whisperers' fucked up environment.

How Will Maggie Return?

Though Lauren Cohan made her initial Walking Dead exit back in the first half of Season 9, fans haven't stop asking about and clamoring for her return, which was allowed to happen after her ambitious ABC series Whiskery Cavalier was cancelled. We know she'll be back in Season 11 as a regular, but it's still unclear how she will rekindle her connection to the main group after being away for years on end. She knows about the Whisperers, thanks to written correspondence she'd been keeping, but will her return have an impact on the villains' future, or will she arrive just after their threat is vanquished? Also, what will her first encounter with Negan be like?

What Is Virgil Up To?

The last time Walking Dead fans saw Kevin Carroll's Virgil, he was parting ways with Michonne, who was herself going on a series-exiting quest to follow clues leading to Andrew Lincoln's Rick Grimes. Virgil claimed he'd be sticking around the military base where he'd been living, but the Season 10 finale trailer showed audiences that he actually packed up and headed out. Carroll teased Virgil's return to CinemaBlend earlier this year, but nobody said anything about him going to Oceanside. Is he going to find anyone still around, or will he end up moving on from that place in order to track down those who left?

Will Connie Finally Come Back?

The Walking Dead's midseason premiere earlier this year featured the disappearance of Lauren Ridloff's Connie, who got trapped underground after everyone else had already escaped the cave system. Her chances didn't look that great in the moment, though characters like Magna and Yumiko have kept the faith that she would eventually return. Granted, the real BTS reason Ridloff had to back out of The Walking Dead is because she was in the midst of filming Marvel's Eternals, but fans have been wondering when Connie will return to keep building on her friendship with Daryl. (Yeah, everybody wants to see them get freaky, though I'm not sure Daryl is even capable of it at this point.)

The Walking Dead will finally get to air the Season 10 finale on AMC on Sunday, October 4, at 9:00 p.m. ET, and it will be immediately followed by the series premiere of The Walking Dead: World Beyond. The world of The Walking Dead has changed quite a bit since Lauren Cohan's Maggie made her exit in Season 9. For one, there's been that whole Whisperers issue for the protagonists to contend with. More to the point where Maggie is concerned, Negan went from being Public Enemy Monster #1 to being a free man with a conscience. Now, does anyone think that information is going to go over well when Maggie shows up in the Thrones-esque Season 10 finale, or when Season 11 arrives next year?

I cannot imagine Lauren Cohan will be given a lot of happy and comforting scenes when Maggie gets fully settled back into the story in Season 11, and showrunner Angela Kang implied as much during The Walking Dead's Comic-Con@Home panel. Here's how she put it when asked about Maggie and Negan's relationship by moderator Chris Hardwick.

For all intents and purposes, Maggie would be well within the realm of understandable behavior if she flipped out and killed Negan (or at least maimed him) after seeing that he's no longer imprisoned. After all, he and the Saviors made their lives hell ahead of and during the All Out War, with the tip of that misery iceberg being Glenn and Abraham's brutal murders. And she isn't aware of it yet, but Negan also took part in helping the Whisperers destroy Hilltop, even though it was all a long con to kill off Alpha. Maggie probably won't buy into those kinds of semantics, though.

So it definitely sounds like Maggie and Negan are going to have some seriously strained conversations and situations when The Walking Dead returns to AMC for Season 11. Those who are familiar with the comic book are aware of how Maggie and Negan's (presumed) final confrontation went, with the protagonist sparing the villain's life while also taking pleasure in Negan's suffering. Something tells me Maggie will find ways to keep making Negan feel like a deadly outsider, despite his efforts to continue acclimating himself.

Many characters will likely be dealing with the clean up process after dealing with the massive walker herd that Beta has amassed and is using to target the temporary haven at that abandoned hospital. Hopefully for Negan's sake, that distraction will be enough to keep Maggie from immediately jumping down his throat and reminding everyone what a deadly asshole he used to be. During the Comic-Con@Home panel, Jeffrey Dean Morgan half-jokingly defended Negan by pointing out the more heroic deeds that Maggie isn't aware of yet.

How weird is it going to be if viewers have to watch a scene where Daryl tries to quell Maggie's anger by extolling Negan's virtues and presenting him as a worthwhile community member? Maggie might just want to take out the entire population if it comes to that.

The Walking Dead is set to finally air its long-delayed Season 10 quasi-finale on AMC on Sunday, October 4, at 9:00 p.m., though fans will get to see another six Season 10 installments at some point in early 2021, with Season 11 set to get a traditional October premiere in Fall 2021. In the meantime, though, AMC will be offering up the first season of The Walking Dead: World Beyond on October 4 after the finale, and then Fear the Walking Dead will finally provide answers about Morgan's fate when Season 6 kicks off on Sunday, October 11.

A zombie apocalypse reunion is coming to Robert Kirkman's new show, with no fewer than six veterans of The Walking Dead assembling to tackle roles for Amazon's Invincible. The Walking Dead cast members range from those who were killed off years ago to those who are still alive and as well as can be in the zombie apocalypse, and they join the already-announced Khary Payton. So, who will be part of Invincible?

The new series will feature Lauren Cohan (The Walking Dead's Maggie Rhee) as War Woman, Chad Coleman (Tyreese) as Martian Man, the very red-headed Michael Cudlitz (Abraham) as Red Rush, Lennie James (Morgan, now on Fear the Walking Dead) as Darkwing, Ross Marquand (Aaron) as The Immortal & Aquarius, and Sonequa Martin-Green as Green Ghost. Khary Payton, who of course plays Ezekiel on The Walking Dead, is on board as Black Samson.

While so many current and former Walking Dead cast members coming back together for a Robert Kirkman project is exciting, it's worth noting that Invincible will be an animated series, with these zombie apocalypse alums lending their voices. That said, there are reasons why these actors are significant as additions to Invincible. The show will be based on Robert Kirkman's book of the same name, and Kirkman himself announced the castings at his Comic-Con@Home virtual panel. He shared:

The Invincible comic series hasn't achieved the same level of fame as Robert Kirkman's The Walking Dead series even before the AMC series launched, but prospective viewers shouldn't assume that it's for kids just because the show is animated and just because it won't take place in the zombie apocalypse. The comics were known to get graphic, and adults are presumably the target demographic with this show.

The comics, which launched back in 2003 and ran for 144 issues before ending in February 2018, centered on Markus Grayson, the son of a novelist who is actually Omni-Man, an extraterrestrial superhero. Mark's own super powers begin to manifest when he turns 17, and he ultimately begins to train under his father under the superhero name of "Invincible."

An adaptation of Invincible has been in the works as far back as April 2017, although it was originally intended to be a movie with Seth Rogan and Evan Goldberg. Then, in June 2019, news broke that Robert Kirkman's Invincible would become a TV show at Amazon with an order for an eight-episode first season.

All of this said, potential viewers shouldn't count on seeing Invincible debut with so many members of the Walking Dead cast on board any time too soon. Neither Amazon nor Robert Kirkman have announced a premiere window, let alone a hard premiere date. Production halted through much of the entertainment industry earlier this year, but hopefully Invincible's status as an animated series means that production could continue.

The first nine seasons are currently available streaming on Netflix, and executive producer Angela Kang dropped some intriguing news about what remains of Season 10. After 15 seasons, Supernatural will soon come to a close. With that much time on air (dating back to when The CW was still The WB), Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles) have many adventures to look back on and, with that, many familiar faces who may not have been so familiar when they made their appearance on the series.

Perhaps you remember the time 1980s music icon Rick Springfield played a rock star possessed by Lucifer himself, or The Exorcist star Linda Blair’s spot as as a skeptical police detective, or even when Paris Hilton dabbled in self-mockery as a demon-possessed version of herself. However, do you remember seeing Stranger Things star Finn Wolfhard on Supernatural, or maybe Emmy-winner Sterling K. Brown?

These are just two celebrities who would eventually take Hollywood by storm, but not before landing a gig on the extremely popular fantasy adventure series. There are 11 others we had in mind to mention.

Alden Ehrenreich (Ben Collins)

Playing a younger version of Harrison Ford’s iconic space pilot in the 2018 prequel Solo: A Star Wars Story made Alden Ehrenreich a household name. More than a decade earlier, the then 15-year-old actor made his screen debut on the second ever episode of Supernatural, called “Wendigo,” as Ben Collins, a young man looking for his missing older brother in a Colorado forest with his older sister, Haley (Gina Holden). Sam and Dean, while posing as park rangers, agree to help them on a hunch that the sibling may have been killed by the titular mythical creature.

Sterling K. Brown (Gordon Walker)

From his Emmy and Golden Globe-winning role on the hit NBC drama This Is Us to his brief, yet memorable, appearance Eric Killmonger's late, Wakandan born father in Black Panther, Sterling K. Brown has become one of the most versatile, sought-after actors today following a career spanning nearly two decades. One of his earlier roles was a guest spot in Season 2 of Supernatural as a Gordon Walker, a vampire hunter who has it out for Sam Winchester. Brown would reprise the character for a three-episode arc the following season, that saw him become the very creature he despised and ended with Sam beheading him.

Lauren Cohan (Bela Talbot)

In one attempt to find the Winchester Brothers, Gordon Walker interrogated their on-and-off ally, con artist Abbie Talbot (better known as "Bela"), played by Lauren Cohan. The British-American actress would eventually become a master at battling monstrous creatures after joining the cast of The Walking Dead in its second season, but her first recurring role on Season 3 of Supernatural saw her employed by monstrous creatures years after making a deal with a demon in her teens. Despite occasionally turning good to help Sam and Dean, her redemption moment came to a bitter end after betraying the brothers, costing her whatever protection they could have provided once her devilish bargain expired and allowing her soul to be taken by Hellhounds.

Finn Wolfhard (Jordie Pinksy)

While still a teenager, Finn Wolfhard has earned the title of his generation's most prolific "scream king," from playing Richie Tozier in both It films, starring in the upcoming Ghostbusters: Afterlife, and, of course, his breakout role on Stranger Things. Yet, the Canadian actor's first association with the horror genre began a year before he was cast on the hit Netflix series as a guest star on Supernatural. In the 2015 episode "Thin Lizzie," Wolfhard plays Jordie Pinsky, whose father was the victim of a murder which took place at the childhood home of alleged murderer Lizzie Borden, now re-opened as a bed and breakfast, and Sam and Dean are convinced that primordial being The Darkness, which they just call "Amara" (Yasmeene Ball), may be involved.

Leslie Odom Jr. (Guy)

In one of his first TV gigs, Leslie Odom Jr. starred in a wedding episode of Gilmore Girls, which was Jared Padalecki's first major TV gig. Coincidentally, the future Hamilton actor's sole appearance alongside Padalecki on Supernatural is the Season 7 episode literally titled "Season Seven, Time for a Wedding!" The nuptials in question are between Sam and his obsessed fan Becky Rosen (Emily Perkins), which Dean correctly assumes is the work of some sort of black magic and eventually discovers Becky sold her soul to a crossroads demon named Guy (Odom Jr.) in exchange for Sam's love.

Dylan Minnette (Danny Carter)

As a protagonist in 2016 thriller Don't Breathe and the Netflix original horror flick The Open House, Dylan Minnette tends to play a lot of characters who enter places that they should be staying away from. In fact, this reputation dates back even years before he landed a lead role on hit drama 13 Reasons Why when the then 13-year-old starred in a Season 4 episode of Supernatural. In the episode, called "Family Remains," Minnette plays a young member of the Carter Family, who have just moved into a house in Nebraska, only to come across Sam and Dean, who have reason to believe their new home is haunted.

Ashley Benson (Tracy Davis)

After breaking out as Hanna Marin, a meek protagonist of Pretty Little Liars, in 2010, Ashley Benson's next big role would be the not-so-meek Brit in Harmony Korine's controversial thriller Spring Breakers. Yet, before either of those projects came her way, the model/actress also played quite a "hellraiser" (more literally speaking) in the Season 4 Halloween episode of Supernatural, in which she starred as Tracy Davis, a 600-year-old witch performing human sacrifice to resurrect the evil demon Samhaim (actually pronounced correctly in the episode). However, Sam and Dean do not figure that out until after they initially try to protect her from evil art teacher Don Harding (Don McManus), who actually turned out to be her brother.

Gary Cole (Brad Redding)

What helps Gary Cole stand out among the rest of the of the actors on this list is that, by the time he landed his guest spot on Supernatural, he had pretty much already established himself as a prominent onscreen presence, especially as Bill Lumbergh, cinema's quintessential boss from hell, in the classic 1999 comedy Office Space. Of course, the fact that his Season 2 appearance has certain thematic parallels to that iconic role only makes it more worth mentioning. In "Hollywood Babylon," Sam and Dean pose as production assistants to infiltrate a supposedly a haunted movie set, but Brad Redding, a bullish producer played by Cole, turns out to be one of more antagonistic characters they encounter, until he falls prey to the real on-set evil.

Katie Cassidy (Ruby/Lilith)

Although she is best known today for playing Laurel Lance (a.k.a. Black Canary) on Arrow, Katie Cassidy does have a place in horror movie royalty (so to speak) for her roles in the modern day remakes of When a Stranger Calls and A Nightmare on Elm Street. Her proudest moment within the genre would more likely be her recurring role on Supernatural, for which she actually got to play characters. Starting off as the first known human vessel of Ruby, a demon who becomes a frequent ally to the Winchester Brothers and love interest of Sam, Cassidy's character's body would eventually be taken over by a white-eyed demon named Lilith, who is most definitely not an ally to the Sam and Dean, but used her new appearance to insidiously achieve their trust.

Aldis Hodge (Jake Talley)

In Leigh Whannel's 2020 update of The Invisible Man, Aldis Hodge plays James Lanier, a police officer who falls prey to the manipulation of his friend's evil ex-husband. In the two-part Season 2 finale of Supernatural, he played Jake Talley, a US military officer who possesses the ability to manipulate others with mind control as a "Special Child," but that did not stop him from falling prey to the wishes of the Yellow-Eyed Demon, Azazel, and become one hell of an obstacle for Sam and Dean. Jake eventually becomes entirely consumed by his demonic side, becoming instrumental in the unleashing of the Apocalypse.

Felicia Day (Charlie Bradbury)

Felicia Day has earned a bit of a "geek goddess" reputation among her cult followers for years, from starring on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Eureka, her recent regular role on Netflix's Mystery Science Theater 3000 revival, and plenty more beloved projects. Among those programs, undoubtedly, is Supernatural, on which she starred as skilled computer hacker, and LARP enthusiast, Charlie Bradbury, whom Sam and Dean treat as the "sister [they] never wanted." Her Season 7 debut would only be Day's first appearance on the series and would later appear as Charlie's evil side as well as an alternate version of the previously murdered character originating from an apocalyptic dimension from which Dean transports her to the main Earth.

Jared Keeso (Matt Harrison)

It is impossible to imagine Jared Keeso as anyone other than Wayne, central character of the hilariously surreal comedy series Letterkenny, which he also created. Believe it or not, however, the Canadian actor had a career before the Hulu exclusive series, which includes a brief guest spot on the second season of Supernatural in which he plays Matt Harrison, the unfaithful boyfriend of Angela Mason (Amara Zaragoza), and her first victim after she resurrects from the dead as a vengeful zombie. He is actually just one Letterkenny actor to have had a guest spot on Supernatural, given a lot of it is filmed in Canada, including Nathan Dales, Kaniehtiio Horn, and Tyler Johnston.

Cory Monteith (Gary)

Another actor who made one of his first TV appearances in the second episode of Supernatural (like the previously mentioned Alden Ehrenreich) was Cory Monteith, who played a camper named Gary who becomes a victim of the Colorado Wendigo. Years later, the Canadian actor would achieve great success as a high school athlete balancing sports with a love for performing arts on the hit musical series Glee. Unfortunately, his role was tragically cut short when he passed away at 31 due to a combined overdose of alcohol and heroin.

One of the most successful comic book adaptations of all time is The Walking Dead. The AMC show, which Frank Darabont developed from Robert Kirkman's popular comic series chronicling humanity's struggle to survive a world overrun with reanimated corpses, has earned multiple Emmys, a Golden Globe nomination, and two spin-offs (so far) during its 10 (soon to be 11) season run.

For those who are not fans of the Image comic, it may be easy to forget that the series is a comic book adaptation, considering its tone and subject matter are far different from what "casual fans" are used to: superheroes. Of course, there is no room for superhuman, costumed vigilantes in an ongoing battle between humans and zombies (excluding a famous Marvel storyline in which that is exactly what happens), but it does give me an idea.

While alums Michael Rooker (Merle Dixon) and Danai Gurira (Michonne) have already graduated into the Marvel Cinematic Universe with significant roles, as Guardians of the Galaxy's Yondu and Black Panther's Okoye respectively, the rest of the cast of The Walking Dead has yet to know what it is like to be a superhero. So, why don't we take a look at some of the show's current series regulars (and even a few old favorites) and imagine what heroes they would be perfect as.

Norman Reedus - The Punisher

Ironically, Norman Reedus' Daryl Dixon was originally not meant to survive Season 1 of The Walking Dead. Which leaves us to wonder, had things gone according to plan with the unexpectedly popular character, if Reedus might have stolen his former co-star Jon Bernthal's chance to play Frank Castle on Netflix's Daredevil and his solo spin-off, The Punisher. From how he rocks a leather jacket, owns the road on his chopper, and his mastery of the stoic loner shtick as Daryl, Reedus embodies exactly who would imagine should play the widowed, vengeful war veteran in an MCU reboot... with all due respect and appreciation for Bernthal, of course.

Andrew Lincoln - Blackhawk

He may have left the show in 2018 but, until then, Andrew Lincoln was the heart and soul of The Walking Dead as former cop Rick Grimes: a man who, when his head was in the right place, showed great leadership, made especially commendable by Lincoln's performance. Thus, I believe he would be the perfect choice to lead an adaptation of the DC comic Blackhawk, which follows a squadron of World War II-era fighter pilots which Steven Spielberg has been reportedly working on. However, I would recommend he update it to the present day, so that Andrew Lincoln can play the current leader of the Blackhawk Program, whose name is... Andrew Lincoln.

Melissa McBride - Zealot

Carol Peletier is not one bit the person she was in Season 1 of The Walking Dead, having evolved from a meek, desperate mother into a fearless, fully capable, and even ruthless warrior, as Melissa McBride has played her. Lady Zannah, better known as Zealot, did not become the fierce warrior from the planet Khera that she is known as today, but was skilled in weaponry and expert martial arts long before she became stranded on Earth and joined the WildC.A.T.S. in a war against Daemonites (while this DC property was still exclusively an Image character). Not only does McBride look the part, but has demonstrated how she can be the part on The Walking Dead for years.

Christian Serratos - Zatanna

Going from playing Ned's crush Susie Crabgrass on Nickelodeon's Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide to playing a badass soldier on The Walking Dead Christian Serratos pulled off one of the coolest magic tricks in TV history by exhibiting a stunning range of versatility. Magic is actually a specialty of Zatanna Zatara, the DC character I think she would be a spot-on choice to play. She may not have same combative expertise as Rosita Espinosa, but as a member of Justice League Dark, Zatanna has had her fair share of monstrous enemies.

Josh McDermitt - Forbush Man

Something you may not know about Josh McDermitt, who plays Eugene Porter (a The Walking Dead survivor who lied his way to ensure his own protection) is that he got his start in stand-up comedy, even if his moments of comic relief on the series make that less surprising. While the actor has proven his dramatic chops on the show as well, I think the actor would do well by playing a superhero that reflects his roots and one of the funniest characters known to the Marvel Universe is Forbush Man, known for his failed attempts to be in superhero organizations like the Revengers, S.H.E.E.S.H., and the Echhs-Men. So, yes, this cast-iron helmet wearing, fourth wall-breaking "crimefighter" is really more of a superhero parody, but that is a pretty hot concept right now, after all.

Steven Yeun - Kamen Rider

Steven Yeun is actually going to be in a recently announced new series based on the Robert Kirkman superhero comic Invincible... but as an animated character, not live-action as I was personally hoping to see the Korean-born actor, best known as pizza deliverer turned expert Walker fighter Glenn Rhee for the first six season of The Walking Dead, portray a new comic book character. One superhero who, despite his influence, is not very well known to American audiences is Kamen Rider, a crimefighting motorcyclist dressed as an insect created by Japanese manga artist Shotaro Ishinomori. I think that if anybody can sell the idea of an English-language adaptation of this overseas cult sensation, it's Yeun.

Lauren Cohan - She-Hulk

It has been proven that a performer can smoothly transcend comic book universes (Michael Keaton, Ben Affleck Laurence Fishburne) and British actress Lauren Cohan has already been in two, from playing Maggie Greene (whom Glenn would eventually, unofficially, marry) in The Walking Dead and Martha Wayne (Batman's mom) in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. So, why not go for the trifecta and join the MCU as a character whom plenty of Marvel fans have recommended her for already: Jennifer Walters (better known as She-Hulk). The green superhero goddess' solo Disney+ series has yet to be cast at this moment so, if the producers of TWD can write in a few reasons for Maggie to be absent a little more often after Cohan returns to the role, I think she has this in the bag.

Chandler Riggs - Red Robin

The first person you usually think of when you think of Batman's sidekick is Dick Grayson (the first Robin, after all), but then there are also those who have enjoyed Jason Todd or Damian Wayne in the costume, but Tim Drake may be the least appreciated, as far as I can tell. A The Walking Dead character whom I believe was under-appreciated for much of his time on the series was Rick Grimes' son, Carl, the role that actor Chandler Riggs grew up playing. Therefore, putting the actor, now 20, in the role of Tim Drake's current alias, Red Robin, seems like a match made in Heaven to me.

Sonequa Martin-Green - The Crimson Avenger

I do quite miss Sonequa Martin-Green as Sasha on The Walking Dead, for her resilience, complexity, and stunning skills behind a firearm. With how well she brought that character to life, I think the actress (who currently plays Commander Michael Burnham on Star Trek: Discovery) qualifies profoundly to play Jill Carlyle, a lawyer who, when coming across a pair of cursed pistols, becomes the latest to bear the title of deadly vigilante The Crimson Avenger.

Ross Marquand - Booster Gold

Yet another The Walking Dead alum who has joined the MCU is Ross Marquand... just not to be superhero, but to use his extraordinary talent of impersonation to fill the role of Red Skull (originated by Hugo Weaving) in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. So, instead of convincing Marvel to give him double duty, I recommend he try out for the other team as a relatively overlooked DC superhero named Booster Gold. While playing the attention-seeking, time traveling Justice League member, who debuted in the 1980s, would be a far cry from his TWD character Aaron, if you look at everything else the actor has done (including voice roles on Seth MacFarlane series), that's just what he may be looking for.

Alanna Masterson - Sage

You think you can call yourself an expert of all X-Men characters just by having seen every movie? Well, think again because one very cool and complex mutant named Sage, who is just as skilled in telepathy as she is in computer hacking, piloting, and martial arts, has only been depicted onscreen in Fox's short-lived spin-off series The Gifted. I believe that the MCU should some day give Sage a new home on the silver screen and I recommend Alanna Masterson because, like Sage, her The Walking Dead character, Tara Chambler, was a headstrong individual who could invoke a hostile personality as a defense mechanism if need be.

Seth Gilliam - Green Lantern

If you are like me, you grew up with the John Stewart incarnation of Green Lantern, who was brought to life on the acclaimed animated series Justice League in 2003. Also, if you are like me, you are probably hoping that Stewart gets to be the star of future films about the organization of intergalactic cops equipped with rings that allow them to fight evil with whatever their imagination conjures. If you saw the side by side photo above with Seth Gilliam (preacher Gabriel Stokes from The Walking Dead) next to an animated shot of John Stewart, I think it speaks for itself why he has a good shot at the role.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan - Batman

I know, you know, and even Jeffrey Dean Morgan himself knows that this is the correct answer for which superhero the actor, whose most memorably comic book role to date is the despicable Negan, should play. Ever since he appeared alongside The Walking Dead co-star Lauren Cohan as the parents to young Bruce Wayne in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, fans have theorized for years that Morgan would reprise the role of Thomas Wayne in a film based on the Flashpoint storyline, which imagines an alternate world in which Bruce died that fateful day, leaving Martha to go crazy and become the Joker and Thomas taking on the identity of The Batman. The actor has said he is down for the role, if it ever happens, that is.

When The Walking Dead aired Rick Grimes' final episode, the show also took away another major character in Lauren Cohan's Maggie, though there was always the belief that the character would return again at one point down the road. Fans are currently at that point, although production on Season 10's big finale wasn't able to meet everyone halfway, as it was halted due to self-quarantining efforts nationwide. Thankfully, The Walking Dead was able to deliver a season finale video that revealed not only a first look at Maggie's return, but also why Maggie is coming back in the first place.

Let's all take a second to take in a big breath of relief that Lauren Cohan's Maggie is coming back, and that she doesn't appear to be suffering from any major injuries suffered wherever she has been settled down. Cleverly enough, the video only shows us Maggie out in the woods, where it's basically impossible to figure out what her main location is. She could technically be anywhere from Maine to Oregon to the area right outside Alexandria's walls, though none of those seem quite logical.

After celebrating the below first look at Season 10 Maggie, we can start talking about why Maggie is choosing now to return to the narrative.

Considering we haven't known where Maggie has been, we haven't been fully aware of how she's been keeping in contact with everyone else beyond the sporadic radio communication. But since radio communication can be overheard by others, and isn't the most dependable, the protagonists had to rely in part on written communication kept secret from outsiders' eyes and ears.

Maggie is seen opening up a half-buried box where she finds a rather morbid note from Ezekiel concerning the recent atrocities that everyone suffered at the gross hands of the Whisperers. (We know it's from Ezekiel since he referenced "my son Henry," as well as his name being briefly seen on the bottom of the letter as it's unfolded.) So, assuming that this letter was left at a particularly location halfway between Maggie's curently location and her former homes, it can be assumed that she's going to soon assist in helping keep everyone safe from Beta's big hospital horde that served as the penultimate episode's big cliffhanger. Unless she for some reason would arrive back there too late to do anything, which would feel like a bit of a wasted opportunity.

Will Maggie's live-action return reflect on her comic book storyline at all? (Minus, you know, that whole Dante storyline being completely different from the source material.) Will she come back with a bone to pick over Negan's continued survival? Or will she return simply as an act of keeping her friends safe? Hopefully we'll get some answers from the Season 10 finale, since showrunner Angela Kang probably won't be offering up any specific answers anytime soon. But at least we know Cohan will be back for Season 11 in full!

The Walking Dead will return to AMC at some point later this year with the official Season 10 finale, and then will presumably also return later this year for Season 11, although updates on any new episode productions will be coming only after Hollywood and other filming locations are allowed to get back into the motions. When it comes to live-action comic adaptations, there are bound to be changes made to certain characters and their story arcs. The same can be said of Juan Javier Cardenas’ short-lived stint as Dante on The Walking Dead. While the changes usually occur for various reasons, The Walking Dead showrunner Angela Kang explained that Dante’s storyline was drastically altered due to Lauren Cohan’s absence from the AMC series.

After Dante killed off Siddiq in the shocking midseason finale, “The World Before,” the treacherous character’s arc on The Walking Dead ended with his murder at the hands of Father Gabriel. This change worked on the show because his fate in the comics remains unknown. But, why wait until Season 10 to introduce the character?

The Walking Dead’s Angela Kang revealed that Dante’s introduction had been discussed over the years, though it “never felt like the exact right time.” After Lauren Cohan’s departure from the series, however, talk of Dante came back to the forefront.

That's interesting, especially knowing how intertwined Dante's storyline is with Maggie's in the comics. Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Angela Kang continues, saying that the writers wanted to play with the two distinct aspects of his personality for his onscreen arc, something they hadn't had the opportunity to do before.

In the comics, Dante isn’t much of a bad guy, though he does have issues with boundaries. He is actually one of Maggie Rhee’s closest advisers and generally a respected member of the Hilltop community. In fact, Maggie and Dante even had a brief fling, though Maggie tells him how she regretted sleeping with him.

With Lauren Cohan’s Maggie set to return to The Walking Dead, the writers no longer have to worry about portraying her and Dante’s relationship now that he’s dead. I imagine they’ll have something else in store for Maggie upon her return, which will likely explain what she’s been up to in the time that she’s been gone.

Having landed a lead role on Whiskey Cavalier, Lauren Cohan’s departure from The Walking Dead in Season 9 seemed permanent. In October, however, the news out of New York Comic Con was that Cohan would return to The Walking Dead as a series regular in Season 11. But, it looks like she’ll be returning as Maggie Rhee way earlier than expected.

Lauren Cohan’s Maggie Rhee, whose husband Glenn (Steven Yeun) was brutally killed by the villainous Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) in Season 7, left the show five episodes into The Walking Dead’s Season 9. Maggie was last seen leaving the Hilltop six years in the future. However, the early cancellation of ABC’s Whiskey Cavalier made it possible for Cohan to return to the AMC show.

Now, according to The Walking Dead showrunner Angela Kang, Lauren Cohan could return as early as midway through Season 10.

That’s much earlier than anticipated. After all, Lauren Cohan wasn’t supposed to be back full time until Season 11. Speaking with EW, Angela Kang also explains that her return has been in the works for a while now.

Even though Maggie’s been gone for more than a season, The Walking Dead, which also saw the departure of Danai Gurira’s Michonne, has consistently referenced her character and Angela Kang says that was done on purpose.

Regardless of how Lauren Cohan’s return as Maggie will occur, I’m sure Angela Kang and the rest of the writers will have something great in store for her and her storyline.

In other The Walking Dead news, it was announced at San Diego Comic-Con that Andrew Lincoln’s Rick Grimes, previously the series’ main character, was getting his own theatrical film. The movie will even be introducing new kinds of walkers, so that’s something to look forward to.

There’s still no word yet on when the Rick Grimes movie will begin production and no release date or title has been given. In the meantime, fans can continue watching The Walking Dead Season 10 (and maybe see Lauren Cohan's Maggie) on Sundays at 9 p.m. on AMC.

She's baaaack! The Walking Dead fan favorite Maggie Greene-Rhee will return ... just not for Season 10. AMC announced The Walking Dead was officially renewed for Season 11 AND that Lauren Cohan would return as a series regular next year.

So The Walking Dead won't be ending after 10 seasons, which isn't a huge shock since there are "decades of story left." However, I'm a mix of happy and sad that we're getting Maggie back. Happy that she will indeed return, after the six-year time jump of Season 9 showed Maggie and baby Hershel were both missing. Maggie's story was left open, and Lauren Cohan did say her story was not over. That was a hint, but we didn't know when or how Maggie would return.

Now we know Maggie will return NEXT season. That makes me a little bit less excited for Season 10, which is where the sad comes in. The Walking Dead Season 10 starts tomorrow night, Sunday, October 6. I was hoping Maggie would return this season. We are losing Danai Gurira's Michonne in Season 10, so maybe getting Maggie back in Season 11 is supposed to balance that in some way? Andrew Lincoln's Rick Grimes is also gone, and yet not gone because he has at least one movie coming to AMC -- and also to theaters.

Sarah Barnett, President of AMC Networks Entertainment Group an AMC Studios, shared a statement on The Walking Dead renewal and Lauren Cohan's return:

Once ABC decided to cancel Lauren Cohan's new show Whiskey Cavalier, it definitely led fans to hope she would return as Maggie. Cohan reportedly left due to contract disputes, wanting more money closer to what Norman Reedus and Andrew Lincoln were getting. Now Andy Lincoln is kinda sorta gone and Reedus is said to be making the big bucks. But it sounds like AMC came to some kind of arrangement with Cohan, since she's not just back on a guest star or recurring basis. Series regular is full-time.

I'm curious to see how not-so-baby Hershel looks now. He'd be, what, 7 or 8 now -- maybe older by the timeline of The Walking Dead Season 11?

Well, Whiskey Cavalier got close to a cancellation reversal but it did not last. Keep reading for why this is probably The End, with no hope for a save from the likes of Netflix and company.

Two weeks ago, on Mother's Day weekend, ABC cancelled the Scott Foley and Lauren Cohan dramedy. However, the Season 1 finale, "Czech Mate," aired after that and saw a big ratings jump. The May 22 finale also ended on a major cliffhanger. There was enough interest that reports came out that the network was reconsidering the cancellation. There was hope! Alas, showrunner David Hemingson updated on May 24 that The Powers That Be had decided, once again, to pass on Whiskey Cavalier Season 2:

Love that poster. But I guess that's our answer to the Whiskey Cavalier theme song: "I need to know now, know now, can you love me again?" It's "no."

Scott Foley not only starred in the show as FBI Special Agent Will Chase, aka Whiskey Cavalier, he's also a producer on the show. He and Marika Dominczyk, who played Tina on Whiskey Cavalier, posted a tearful message after ABC's cancellation. They too briefly had hope when it looked like ABC was reconsidering the cancellation. Foley returned to Twitter when the bad news came down (again):

There's the silver lining!

Deadline shared some background on the new decision. A final call had to be made quickly, they noted, since Scott Foley and Lauren Cohan had been courted for other projects. (The Walking Dead Season 10, perhaps, to bring back Cohen's Maggie?)

This past Wednesday's season -- now series -- finale gave Whiskey Cavalier its best same-day numbers since its Wednesday premeire, earning a 0.7 rating in adults 18-49, which was almost double its recent results, and 3.8 million viewers.

Show producer Warner Bros. TV pitched Whiskey Cavalier to other platforms, with Deadline adding that the big-budget globe-trotting show was important for the studio for international sales appeal and because it already made a big investment in the Prague-shot series. However, ABC or another broadcast network was always the best case scenario for WBTV, rather than a streamer. Shows like Lucifer and Designated Survivor went to Netflix, but Netflix already had at least partial international distribution rights for those titles already. That was not the case for Whiskey Cavalier. So it sounds like it came down to cost, and it sounds unlikely that Netflix will save this show like so many others.

The one additional bright side is that the cliffhanger won't completely stay a cliffhanger. We won't get to see what happens next, but executive producer Bill Lawrence said he and showrunner David Hemingson would reveal what would've happened in Whiskey Cavalier Season 2. Scott Foley has already teased that he wanted Will and Frankie to take their "will they/won't they" and transition it to "on again/off again" to show the evolution of that pairing.

Sadly, shows are still getting cancelled all over the place. It's one-and-done for Whiskey Cavalier on ABC. Scott Foley produces the show as well as starring in the lead role of FBI Special Agent Will Chase, with The Walking Dead's Lauren Cohan as CIA agent Frankie Trowbridge. Foley just announced to fans in a video that ABC decided to cancel the action drama, which will end with Episode 13 on May 22 as the series finale.

It's a tearful video from Scott Foley, but not because he's crying. No, the tears are from his wife Marika Dominczyk, who also co-stars in Whiskey Cavalier in the recurring role of Tina Marek. Foley and Dominczyk have three children together, and -- through tears -- Dominczyk referenced the cancellation being a bitter Mother's Day present.

Scott Foley definitely seems disappointed in the video, but he's handling the cancellation with grace. He noted it was a difficult decision for the network. Fans are upset, pointing to ABC renewing Grey's Anatomy for Season 16 and Season 17, and also renewing Fresh Off the Boat (even with a main star of that show not wanting a renewal) for Season 6. Why not Whiskey Cavalier for Season 2?

ABC first aired Whiskey Cavalier as a special preview after the 2019 Oscars. Then it moved over to its regular Wednesday at 10 p.m. spot. The show started strong and lost some viewers along the way, but I still thought ABC would renew. The show seemed to do pretty well with DVR numbers, from fans watching the episode later in the same week. For example, the "Hearts and Minds" episode of April 24 only had 2.54 million same-day viewers and a 0.4 rating in the 18-49 demo, but it picked up 2.81 million DVR viewers with a 0.6 rating from the DVR crowd, bringing the total to 5.35 million viewers and a 1.0 demo rating.

Not enough, it seems.

There are always other factors involved in cases like this. Whiskey Cavalier filmed Season 1 in Prague, which made for beautiful locations, but could that possibly have been a cost factor? Or did that choice save money? There are also star contracts, competition from other networks (all competing for ad $), and whatever else ABC has ready to go on the schedule for 2019-2020.

I'm a bit surprised and disappointed by this decision. That said, Maggie was my favorite character on The Walking Dead, and I can't help but hope AMC sees ABC's loss as their gain. Just pay Lauren Cohan what she wants already and bring Maggie back to the show. The Walking Dead can't afford to keep losing early season cast members.

But before The Walking Dead fans get their hopes up too high, Deadline noted that series producer Warner Bros. TV will be shopping Whiskey Cavalier to other outlets/platforms. So it's possible Netflix, Hulu, Amazon or someone else could step in to save the show.

Anyway, Whiskey Cavalier fans still have two more episodes to watch -- this Wednesday, May 15's "Two of a Kind" and then the May 22 finale, "Czech Mate." Here's the synopsis for the big finale:

I like the idea of seguing from "will they, won't they" to "on again, off again" -- after all, the opening song even asks "Can you love me again?" They just have to find a way to keep it fresh and not played-out. Will currently has a lovely girlfriend in Emma Davies (Ophelia Lovibond), so Will and Frankie are in the "off" zone. However, they have gotten very close in the past, and had quite a romantic evening set up in Spain before Emma arrived.

The way Scott Foley phrased his quote to EW -- "depending on where they go toward the end of this season or next" -- suggests hope for a "next" season to exist. ABC has yet to say anything, but in speculating on Whiskey Cavalier's Season 2 chances, I was leaning more toward yes than no, but it's all guesswork from afar. The viewers and ratings have been fairly steady in the past few weeks. But how expensive is the show, what are the filming contracts, what does the rest of the schedule look like etc.? There are so many factors The Powers That Be will consider.

May seems to be when many shows will learn their fates, and that may be the case as well for Whiskey Cavalier. Lauren Cohan has already talked about wanting to return for the final season of Supernatural, if possible, at least for a cameo. And she said Maggie's storyline is not over on The Walking Dead. So she's potentially pretty busy, depending on what happens on those fronts and with Whiskey Cavalier Season 2.

Whiskey Cavalier Season 1 production was based in Prague, so it's not the kind of show where a series regular could just pop on over to another show's set for a quick scene. If there is a Season 2, I would hope the show stays in Europe, because a big part of the draw for me is seeing all of the locations.

Whiskey Cavalier continues tonight (April 24) with Episode 9 "Hearts & Minds," which forces Frankie to prove herself as the leader when Will is captured during a mission in Ukraine. The show airs Wednesdays at 10 p.m. on ABC, as one of the few shows not quite winding down to its season finale quite yet.

Supernatural Season 14 is almost over, and Season 15 will mark the end. Lauren Cohan is currently busy on ABC's Whiskey Cavalier, and there's still hope that she might return to AMC's The Walking Dead. But she sounded very enthusiastic about the idea of returning to The CW's Supernatural for the final season.

Sure, her character Bela Talbot appeared to be dead at the end of Season 3. But death is not the kind of thing that ever stops a show like Supernatural. So when Lauren Cohan was asked if she'd like to find a way to make one last appearance in Season 15, here's what she had to say:

So that's a big yes! She has fond memories of Supernatural, and working with Jared Padalecki (Sam Winchester) and Jensen Ackles (Dean Winchester). She was even jealous of her Walking Dead co-star Jeffrey Dean Morgan for getting to return for the big 300th episode milestone.

I'm a bit surprised she mentioned the strong fan base for the show in a positive way, in her talk with Collider; she seemed to pair the fans with her comment "it was the nicest group to become a part of." Her Supernatural stint as self-centered Bela only lasted for Season 3, and show creator Eric Kripke had suggested she was written out in part due to negative reactions from fans.

Fans weren't quick to embrace Season 3 newcomers Lauren Cohan as Bela or Katie Cassidy as Ruby, wanting the attention to stay on the well-liked male leads. There was a lot of hate sent Bela's way, but it sounds like Lauren Cohan still has warm memories of her experience and would love to return.

Will it happen? I suppose it depends on the plans for Supernatural Season 15, and Lauren Cohan's schedule. It's not clear yet if Whiskey Cavalier (which based Season 1 production in Europe) will return for Season 2 on ABC. Cohan has also said her Walking Dead character Maggie's story isn't done, and she does hope to revisit the role at some point, possibly in Season 10.

At this point, Supernatural Season 14 is up to its big finale, and a fan favorite character is meant to return. The season finale, "Moriah," airs Thursday, April 25 at 8 p.m. EST on The CW. And then we'll see if maybe Bela will be one of the characters to return for the final Season 15. Lauren Cohan's Whiskey Cavalier airs Wednesdays at 10 p.m. on ABC.

I need to know now, know now, can you love Whiskey Cavalier into Season 2? OK, that was the lamest start ever, and definitely a downgrade from Whiskey Cavalier's own impressive beginning. But the question stands. Will the Scott Foley/Lauren Cohan show get a second season?

Now that we're five episodes into Season 1, it's clear the ABC action dramedy isn't attracting as many Wednesday at 10 p.m. viewers as it was in Week 1. It's also slipping a bit in the advertiser-loving 18-49 demo. However, it does seem to pick up a healthy number of viewers through DVR. Put together, will it be enough for ABC to renew the show for Season 2? It's probably too soon to say right now in early April, but it's worth keeping an eye on as networks inch toward announcing their 2019-2020 schedules.

If you love Whiskey Cavalier, you'd better make sure to watch Wednesday nights. If you want Lauren Cohan to return to The Walking Dead for Season 10, you could sneakily distract Whiskey Cavalier viewers to make sure they DON'T watch each week.

Whiskey Cavalier premiered with a special preview airing after the Oscars on February 24. The first episode re-aired later that week in the normal Wednesday spot. Both airings got about 4.1 million viewers with a rating around 0.8.

The second episode, airing March 6, was even more impressive -- earning 5.3 million viewers and a 0.85 rating. March 13's Episode 3 started the slight downward slide, with 3.75 million viewers and a 0.61 rating. March 20 followed with 3.67 million and a 0.6 rating. And last week's March 27 episode had 2.95 million viewers and a 0.53 rating.

In terms of timeslot competition, Whiskey Cavalier was topped on March 27 by both NBC's Chicago P.D. (7.01 million/1.1 rating) and CBS's SEAL Team (3.91 million, 0.6).

However, the good news is that Whiskey Cavalier seems to pick up a lot of viewers through DVR. The numbers above are Live + Same Day ratings. The Live + 7 Day numbers show how many people watched the episode within a week of its initial airing. If you look at the Live +7 ratings for March 11-17, Whiskey Cavalier was #7 on the list of total gains in the 18-49 demo. That week it got a 0.6 rating from same-day viewers, but the seven-day viewers had a rating of 1.4, which was a jump of 0.8 or 133%, per TV By the Numbers.

We all know that viewing habits have changed dramatically in the past few years. But it's not clear what metrics networks use to base their renewal and cancellation decisions. It's never just one thing. If a show has consistently low ratings, and doesn't seem to pull 18-49 numbers for advertisers, that's a bad sign. But there are also other factors like cast contracts, licensing, cost of filming, etc.

Whiskey Cavalier is gorgeous to look at, in part because they filmed in Prague rather than just on generic soundstages in L.A. Are they saving money that way, or is it more expensive to do those action-packed location shoots? Also, what are the contracts for leads Lauren Cohan and Scott Foley (who is also a producer)?

Lauren Cohan has said Maggie Greene Rhee's storyline on The Walking Dead is not over. The AMC show would love her back for a few episodes in Season 10, but is that possible if Whiskey Cavalier is renewed?

Whiskey Cavalier Season 1 is currently up to Episode 6, which airs April 3 and marks the debut of Marika Dominczyk in her recurring role as Tyna Marek. She is Scott Foley's wife in real life, which makes things easy since he moved his family to Prague for filming. Last week, Foley's Scandal co-star Bellamy Young had a guest spot.

ABC announced the Season 1 finale will air Wednesday, May 22. May is also when we're mostly likely to hear from ABC on the fate of Whiskey Cavalier for Season 2. No show can remain on television forever, and while it looked like Supernatural could've been the first, the ride is finally coming to an end. To commemorate that, we've compiled a list of actors and actresses who made this show great to update fans with some info on where they can watch them now that they're off The CW series.

Katie Cassidy - Ruby

Katie Cassidy stepped into Supernatural in Season 3 to play a demon that helped out Sam and Dean in hunting other demons. The brothers were initially wary of her intentions but slowly began to trust her more and more as the season progressed. Ruby would eventually prove untrustworthy; by then Cassidy had left the series and been replaced by Genevieve Cortese.

Though Katie Cassidy would exit the series and leave The CW temporarily, audiences know she's appeared in prominent roles on a fair few of the network's hits over the years. She's been Ella on Melrose Place, Juliet on Gossip Girl, and Laurel Lance and Black Siren in Arrow and the other Arrow-verse shows. Given her relationship with The CW, it's a wonder the show hasn't found a way to bring her back for just one episode.

Lauren Cohan - Bela Talbot

Bela Talbot was a character that came into Supernatural in Season 3 in order to be a real pain in the ass to the Winchester brothers. Lauren Cohan's character knew of the supernatural world, and often stole mystical objects and flipped them for a massive profit. Talbot had a solid run, although ultimately lost her life and soul after her deal with a Crossroads Demon expired.

Lauren Cohan drifted around Hollywood for a bit but things really picked up for her in 2011. In addition to roles on Chuck and The Vampire Diaries, Cohan joined a little AMC series by the name of The Walking Dead and her career has been on fire ever since. Anyone who says otherwise need only reference her growing film resume, or her much-buzzed ABC series Whiskey Cavalier.

Mark Sheppard - Crowley

Supernatural fans likely remember Crowley well, as the "King of Hell" made frequent appearances beginning in Season 5. Whether willing or unwilling, Crowley often coordinated with the Winchester brothers in affairs that helped them defeat Lucifer. After years on the show, Crowley's ride came to an end when he sacrificed his life with an Angel's Blade in order to seal Lucifer in an alternate world. The plan failed, but Crowley's death stuck.

Since his exit in 2017, Mark Sheppard hasn't take a ton of roles, but he recently resurfaced in DC Universe's Doom Patrol. Sheppard managed to appear in quite a few shows during his stint on Supernatural, and was a solid guest star on several high profile shows prior. Bottom line, it won't be surprising to see him pop up in a few more projects in 2019 and beyond, so audiences should keep an eye out.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan - John Winchester

Jeffrey Dean Morgan played the Winchester brothers' father, who is a complicated man to say the least. John wasn't the best or most open parent to his sons for most of their lives, which didn't sit well with fans. He did ultimately show up for them in the end, trading his life for Dean's back in Season 2. Luckily, the boys and fans alike got some closure when he was temporarily brought back for the 300th episode.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan hasn't had as many episodes on Supernatural as some would've liked, which was largely due to his role on Grey's Anatomy and Weeds. Things haven't slowed for him since, as his work as Negan on The Walking Dead and continued film career may keep him out of any large role in the final season. He is open to making it happen, though!

Adrianne Palicki - Jessica Moore

Jessica Moore was Sam's girlfriend at the start of Supernatural, although their love was ultimately never meant to be. Jess was killed under Azazel's orders, and to drive the dagger deeper the murderer ended up being a demon that was also the "friend" that introduced the two. This ultimately drove Sam to join Dean in his quest to find John, and while Jess never resurrected like other Supernatural characters, Sam did get vengeance on the demon that killed her.

Adrianne Palicki has done a slew of television since Supernatural, but her home right now is on Seth McFarlane's The Orville as Kelly Grayson. Those who haven't seen her before that may want to check back on past episodes of Marvel's Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. or one of the many other shows she's been involved in as of late.

Sterling K. Brown - Gordon Walker

Who doesn't remember Gordon Walker? Gordon was the vampire hunter who liked his job a little too much. While this wouldn't have been a problem with folks like Van Helsing, Sam and Dean took exception to Gordon's blatant killing if a being was supernatural and not so much as to whether or not they were doing harm. Gordon eventually met his end via Sam, who decapitated him with a makeshift garotte.

Sterling K. Brown left Supernatural due to a contractual obligation to Army Wives, and has found numerous roles in film and television since. Many will recognize him as the increasingly unlikable Randall Pearson on NBC's This Is Us, and can catch him on there for the time being. Brown is also doing a bit of voice work and will be heard in the sequel to Angry Birds and Frozen later this year.

Alona Tal - Jo Harvelle

Jo Harvelle wanted to follow in her hunter mother's footsteps, but it takes more than that in Supernatural. Although Jo tried her best when she first appeared in Season 2, she ended up causing more problems rather than solving any. She did eventually figure things out and became a competent hunter when she reconnected with the brothers in Season 5, then tragically died. She next appeared as a ghost in Season 7, and hasn't been seen since.

These days Alona Tal can be found on CBS' SEAL Team where she plays Stella. Tal is said to be a part of the NYPD Blue reboot, and should be along for the ride if the project gets a series order. She'll also be seen in The Red Sea Diving Resort alongside actor Chris Evans, Haley Bennett and others which is set to release sometime in 2019.

Mitch Pileggi - Samuel Campbell

Samuel Campbell was Sam and Dean's maternal grandfather, and also a hunter. He's been possessed, killed, brought down from heaven, had a soulless period where he did some bad stuff and then regained his soul with no memory of that time. Still, what a character arc this guy has had!

Since exiting Supernatural, Mitch Pileggi has been in a whole mess of stuff, and even reprised his role as Skinner for the The X-Files revival. Pileggi recently had a guest spot on NCIS and is also a part of the supernatural film Polaroid. He's taking part in the upcoming film Axis Sally, which features folks like Al Pacino, Meadow Williams, and Lala Kent.

Rob Benedict - Chuck Shurley

When it comes to interesting Supernatural characters, Chuck Shurley tops the list. He's the writer of the in-series novels Supernatural, and documents the adventures of the Winchester brothers as the "new Gospels." Chuck fades away for a time, but then comes back as God in Chuck's form. This raises the question of if Chuck was always God, or if the actual Chuck died and then God later took Chuck's form. Unfortunately, those in charge will probably never tell.

Rob Benedict's last appearance on Supernatural was 2016, and he's been out and around Hollywood since then. He was recently in two episodes in NCIS: New Orleans, and will appear in two episodes of Season 5 of Amazon Prime Video's Bosch. While we don't know for sure, one would hope Benedict will make another appearance in Supernatural's final season.

Richard Speight Jr. - Gabriel

The youngest of the archangels, Gabriel spent a majority of his life trying to avoid the drama of heaven and hell and instead opted to escape to Earth. The plan didn't work out to well, as Gabriel frequently surfaced throughout Supernatural and eventually found himself unable to run any longer from his problems. Gabriel confronted his brother Michael, in a great victory over his cowardice but an overall defeat that cost him his life.

Since his last appearance on Supernatural, Richard Speight Jr. has taken to the independent film scene. Driven, No Place Like Home, and Mama Bear are on the docket for 2019. Dawn of 5 Evils is another project he has in production, although no release date has been announced.

Felicia Day - Charlie Bradbury

Charlie was yet another of Sam and Dean's frequent collaborators, sometimes unintentionally. Despite her attempts to avoid them, Charlie always came around and was actually a big help on a handful of adventures. Charlie did die, but she's got an Apocalypse World counterpart running around that is pretty bad ass.

Felicia Day has been as busy as she was prior to Supernatural, and is keeping it geeky with roles within the genre. This includes her role as Kinga Forrester in Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Return, and run as Poppy on The Magicians. Fans can also hear her voice on several different animated projects that are on streaming such as Adventure Time, or Skylanders Academy.

ABC is currently home to one of TV's most breezily enjoyable series in the action caper Whiskey Cavalier, which was the most watched scripted show on network TV this past Wednesday night. But one of its stars, Lauren Cohan, had to leave behind The Walking Dead in order to make the new show work. After several months of relative silence concerning a possible return, Cohan recently touched upon the topic, saying this when asked if she misses the AMC drama:

Three cheers for keeping fan hopes alive! Granted, Lauren Cohan's generally positive answer to Busy Phillips on Busy Tonight didn't cement any return dates or guarantee much of anything else, but at least the possibility of Maggie's return hasn't been shoved in the back of a dust-filled filing cabinet somewhere.

Few would likely assume that all parties would just forget about trying to bring Maggie back into The Walking Dead's post-apocalypse, but few likely understand how truly complicated it is to flip between two different TV shows on different networks produced by different studios. For instance, The Walking Dead films its 16-episode seasons in Georgia at very specific points of the year, while Whiskey Cavalier's production is set in Prague and other points in Europe. Not exactly a hop, skip and a jump away.

Plus, just look at what happened to Heath after actor Corey Hawkins landed the spinoff 24: Legacy. That show only lasted one season, but Hawkins still hasn't returned to The Walking Dead, despite Scott Gimple and others talking about how there's still room for Heath in the story, and that they'd welcome his return. Heath isn't as important of a character as Maggie, true, but the principle remains the same.

It probably also doesn't help that part of Lauren Cohan's Walking Dead exit was tied to contract renewal negotiations failing to go her way following Season 8. Though the actress remains ever-cordial about loving the cast and crew, and missing the show in general, there may still be some lingering resentment clouding the matter.

All that said, Lauren Cohan is technically meant to return to The Walking Dead in some capacity in the future, but it's not at all clear how that would go down. Since Maggie's exit in the first half of Season 9, the zombie drama has gone through a giant time jump in which the character had a strife-filled situation with Michonne's Alexandria crew, and the character ended up taking her son Herschel and fleeing to wherever Jayne Atkinson's Georgie lives.

Maggie could show up in flashbacks, so fans could see what went down between her and Michonne. Or she could show back up in the future to check on everyone at Hilltop. (She'd likely mourn Jesus and whoever else died in the interim.) She and Herschel are going to miss the big Walking Dead fair, but that's probably a good thing, considering what will likely happen there.

For now, Whiskey Cavalier is doing quite well with viewers, critics and the ratings, so don't expect it to be making a quick escape from ABC's lineup in the near future. Catch it airing every Wednesday night at 10:00 p.m. ET.

So far, so good for Whiskey Cavalier. Lauren Cohan and Scott Foley lead the charming spy drama, which debuted twice in its first week. The first time, it aired after the 2019 Oscars -- which sounds like a cushy gig, until you realize it actually premiered around midnight on Sunday. The pilot episode aired again in its Wednesday night 10 p.m. timeslot. Both times, it picked up about 4.1 million viewers for a total of 8.2 million viewers this week. Not too shabby!

ABC said the post-Oscars showing earned 4.1 million viewers and a 0.8 rating in the key 18-49 demo. (Deadline had reported the episode got 4.7 million viewers, so apparently it was adjusted down to 4.1 million if that's the number ABC is going with.) The Wednesday, February 27 repeat also earned 4.1 million and a 0.7 rating.

That was the best audience for ABC in the Wednesday 10 p.m. timeslot since September. It topped last week's Match Game finale by a lot (105% in total viewers and 75% in the ratings) and was also up from Designated Survivor's airing this time last year (11% in total viewers and 17% in the ratings).

It was a promising start for Whiskey Cavalier, but it's not going to get two showings a week from here on out. Usually, premieres and finales get the top viewers and ratings for a season, followed by a midseason finale and premiere, if a show has one. So we'll have to see how Whiskey Cavalier does from here, starting with next Wednesday's March 7 episode, "The Czech List."

Speaking of Czech, Lauren Cohan was just on Jimmy Kimmel Live last night, talking about how they filmed the first season across six-and-a-half-months in Prague.

The Walking Dead fans may wonder what Whiskey Cavalier's strong start could mean for The Walking Dead Season 10. Lauren Cohan exited her role as Maggie Greene Rhee in Season 9, but the character is still alive. It was thought that she could return in Season 10, depending on how things went with Whiskey Cavalier. Even if this new ABC show is a success, it's possible the timing of the two shows' filming schedules could allow Lauren Cohan to at least film an episode or two of The Walking Dead.

If they did just finish filming Whiskey Cavalier in Prague, that's good timing for The Walking Dead, since the AMC show traditionally films in Georgia from early May to late November. So she could theoretically bring Maggie back into the storyline in early Season 10, if that's an option.

Lauren Cohan left The Walking Dead after some contract negotiations appeared to fall through. But she did show up for the pre-time jump section of Season 9, and she said Maggie's story isn't finished, so we should expect to see her again at some point.

The Walking Dead Season 9 is not doing so great in the ratings, compared to its triumphant years, but it earned 4.4 million viewers and a 1.7 rating opposite the Oscars this past Sunday, February 24 at 9 p.m. ET. That's low for Walking Dead, but as direct competition against the Oscars, it's probably the best it could hope for.

Meanwhile, Scott Foley seems to be right at home on Whiskey Cavalier. His former Scandal co-star Bellamy Young is appearing in an upcoming episode, and his wife Marika Dominczyk (most recently Dr. Eliza Minnick on Grey's Anatomy) will also have a recurring role. As long as we keep Tyra Banks from the set, he should be fine.

Whiskey Cavalier continues Wednesdays at 10 p.m. ET on ABC as one of the many shows now airing in midseason 2019.

After 7+ years of putting the undead out of everyone's misery on The Walking Dead, actress Lauren Cohan is jumping to broadcast TV in 2019 for the new series Whiskey Cavalier. Each new look at the slick and sexy caper dramedy cements its potential to be the first great show of the new year, and fans can check out one such new look below. In it, Cohan exudes all of the confidence of TWD's Maggie Greene, but with zero post-apocalyptic gloom.

As the unwavering CIA op Frankie "Fiery Tribune" Trawbridge, Lauren Cohan is perfectly suited to kick ass, take names and chew bubblegum all at the same time. As seen in the trailer, she's the most assuredly flawless person in the room 98% of the time, and is capable of making verbal and physical mincemeat out of those around her. That absolutely includes her anti-Casanova new partner, Will "Whiskey Cavalier" Chase, who is continuously having to contemplate Frankie's dangerously impulsive actions.

Scott Foley, who dealt with a fair share of no-holds-barred female characters during his run on Scandal, is a solid fit for Will Chase, since Foley always looks bemusedly content with being put in a tough spot. Audiences can expect to see plenty of those popping up in Whiskey Cavalier, which showed off a helicopter explosion, some fistfights, and a most awkward bedroom encounter between the lead characters.

Also along for the ride is Lauren Cohan's former Walking Dead co-star Tyler James Williams, who plays a rogue NSA analyst who has accumulated a wealth of highly classified information. I don't think we can consider his sexual tension assessment as coming from classified sources, though. He just calls 'em like he sees 'em, even if it means taking Frankie's sharp elbow to the chest.

The trailer below works as more of an introductory video, giving viewers the basic hook for both the narrative and the characters. Check out Whiskey Cavalier's super-team in action, noting there are some similarities between the promos.

To me, the editing makes this trailer feel like it's advertising a new movie, as opposed to an ABC series. Whiskey Cavalier does look like it had a suitable budget to pay for all the stunts and effects. (At least in the pilot.) That said, I'm not sure there's any amount of money that would convince Frankie to turn her faux marriage to Will into a real one, at least not this early in the show's run. Calling her "boo" might get somebody thrown out a bedroom window.

As was made pretty obvious by the promos, Whiskey Cavalier will mix up the spy caper and office comedy sub-genres, while sprinkling romantic undertones and overtones throughout. It takes just the right cast members to make such a tricky balance work, and it's easy to picture the show's tone getting derailed by a more limited-scope actress in Lauren Cohan's role. Thankfully, Cohan could play an alluringly determined badass in her sleep, so here's hoping the scripts can keep up with her.

While it's still unclear if or when Lauren Cohan could return to The Walking Dead after Maggie's initial exit, fans can find her on ABC for Whiskey Cavalier's series premiere, which airs on Wednesday, February 27, at 10:00 p.m. ET. The Walking Dead just lost its main character in Rick Grimes, so it's understandable that most of the reaction to Episode 5 has been on that loss. Plus, Andrew Lincoln's Rick is getting his own spinoff movies. Buried amid all of that was the news that we also just lost Lauren Cohan's Maggie Greene-Rhee -- at least for now. Showrunner Angela Kang revealed we won't see more Maggie in Season 9's new time jump.

As Angela Kang put it, we won't be seeing Maggie in the new six-years-later world of Season 9. Does that mean we won't see her now 7-ish-year-old son, Hershel Rhee? We have to assume she took him with her. Sheesh. We didn't get to see his birth, and now we may not get to see his childhood.

Where did Maggie go? To find Georgie? Is Jesus running Hilltop? Maggie's departure is a huge question mark at this point, and AMC has to hope that viewers tune in to try and get some answers.

Maggie's story is taking a break mostly because actress Lauren Cohan is stepping away from The Walking Dead for her new ABC series Whiskey Cavalier. This is also tied in part to her contract negotiations for the AMC series. She also said she just wanted a break after eight years on the show, having started on the Greene family farm in Season 2.

But there is hope that she might return next year and beyond. AMC programming president David Madden shared those hopes with THR:

So much of this does depend on the success of Whiskey Cavalier. If it's a hit for ABC, and quickly earns a Season 2 renewal, that may rule out Maggie's return.

Lauren Cohan spoke on that herself in a post-Episode 5 interview with Entertainment Weekly. They had asked if she would be able to juggle both Whiskey Cavalier and The Walking Dead -- plus her film career -- or would she have to make that decision later.

Lauren Cohan did at least confirm that she's had creative story conversations about what could happen with Maggie if she does return. But it's all up in the air.

That said, these are pretty exciting times for the world of The Walking Dead. Overall Walking Dead content boss Scott M. Gimple revealed multiple ways the franchise is expanding moving forward. That's all in addition to those TV movies for Andrew Lincoln's Rick Grimes.
