How is Lindsay Lohan already 40? She absolutely doesn’t look it, and her career has been thriving more than ever, between making the big bucks with Freakier Friday last summer and having an upcoming miniseries with Shailene Woodley. The actress took some time to reflect on her life so far in time for the milestone, and a couple of her Mean Girls co-stars jumped in to show her some love, too.

Lohan’s official birthday is July 2, and I can’t believe the movie star is already saying goodbye to her 30s! Check out what she posted on social media:

Turning 40 is a big deal, and Lindsay Lohan decided to spend some time thinking about what each decade of her life has meant for her so far. Per the actress, being in her 30s was a huge deal for her between getting married, becoming a mother and having the “full-circle moment” of starring in Freakier Friday.

Back in her 20s, she characterizes herself back then as a “girl still figuring herself out”. At the tail end of that decade, Lohan actually decided to leave Hollywood for Dubai because she “wasn’t having fun in the business anymore” and wanted to “live” a “real life”. When looking back at her childhood, where things all started for her as a child actor notably with her movie debut in The Parent Trap, she calls the time "quietly finding pieces of myself". Here’s what she wrote as she looks ahead to the next decade:

It sounds like 40 is going to be the best decade yet for Lindsay Lohan. In the post, she also talked about there being “so much” she still wants to create before predicting that her “best chapters” are the ones she’s “stepping into”. Jonathan Bennett is of course Cady's love interest Aaron Samuels and Daniel Franzese plays one of Cady's friends, Damian Leigh in Mean Girls. Although it’s been over 20 years since their movie came out, it’s great to see these two wishing Lindsay Lohan a happy birthday on such a big one.

Her The Parent Trap co-star Elaine Hendrix, who had a cameo in Freakier Friday and is currently smack dab in the middle of her fifties, and also wished her longtime friend well on her birthday. In her words:

We can’t wait to see what Lindsay Lohan does in her fourth decade. Her next project is a miniseries called Count My Lies, which we’re hoping to see land a release date on the 2026 TV schedule soon.

Hilary Duff and Chad Michael Murray co-starred in one of the best teen rom-coms, A Cinderella Story, and they're still beloved, in part, due to that film. The pair became synonymous during the early aughts and, around that time, One Tree Hill star even invited Duff to the premiere of Freaky Friday, in which he co-starred with Lindsay Lohan. Duff recently explained that the invite came amid her feud with Lohan, but how much of that was actually Murray aware of?

Lohan and Duff were the true teen queens of the '00s, to say the least In time, the two Disney alums were in an alleged love triangle with pop singer Aaron Carter, contributing to their aforementioned tiff. So, from the outside looking in, Murray inviting Duff to the premiere of Freaky Friday (streamable with a Disney+ subscription), where Lohan was in attendance, would seem shady. Murray cleared the air, set the record straight, however, while appearing on Virgin Radio Toronto:

To me personally, Chad Michael Murray doesn’t seem like the type to knowingly get himself entangled in such drama. Still, it's so wild that by extending the invitation to Duff (who "glows" according to her former co-star), Murray became a key footnote in the Duff/Lohan feud.

Hilary Duff's crashing of the Freaky Friday premiere came up during a recent episode of Call Her Daddy. It was during that episode of the podcast, that Duff confirmed she accepted the invite in order to spite her “childhood nemesis.” She even went so far as to admit she told Murray she “probably should” attend the premiere after he invited her. Although there certainly seemed to be some drama brewing beneath the surface, Murray -- who said he only found out about the beef after the premiere -- actually had a more practical reason for inviting Duff to that event:

Honestly, I like the idea of the Cinderella Story crew wanting Murray and Duff to get to know each other during filming, and I'd argue that it worked. Many who love the film say both actors have great chemistry in it, and I'm among those who loves seeing the two play off each other on camera. However, as mentioned during the interview, it is ironic that the producers would want Duff and Murray to try to hang out casually during an event that was far from normal.

Chad Michael Murray's intentions aside, Lindsay Lohan ended up retaliating in her own way when she attended Hilary Duff’s Cheaper by the Dozen premiere. Lohan even poked fun at the Agent Cody Banks star in a 2004 SNL skit where Rachel Dratch portrayed an over-the-top version of Duff. Amid his recent interview, Murray continued to talk about being completely oblivious to any of that drama between the two actresses:

Murray -- who's married to Sarah Roemer and shares three kids with her -- makes a good point that if the whole feud were happening today, everything would have been overanalyzed on social media. But, back in the ‘00s, feuds existed, but I'd argue that they were harder to track without intense tracking across digital mediums.

Fortunately, Lindsay Lohan and Hilary Duff’s beef is so yesterday (sorry, I had to do it), as Duff said the two agreed that they were “good” when they saw each other at a club and celebrated with a shot. The Raise Your Voice actress even had a sense of humor when kids mistook her for Lohan in a Betches video. Considering the two singer/actresses are both grown now and married with kids, it's very understandable why they'd now just want to let bygones be bygones.

Who would have thought that Chad Michael Murray’s innocent invitation for Hilary Duff to attend one of his premieres would contribute to one of the most awkward teen-Hollywood rivalries? The drama may have been tantalizing to those in the know years ago but, today, I'm glad it all appears to be water under the bridge.

Movies are an artifact of the time in which they are made. It can be somewhat jarring to watch a movie today that relies on landline telephones or doesn’t include the existence of the internet. However, a recent viral social media post has people discussing something else that has changed drastically over the years: child car seat laws.

A pair of Twitter posts has both gone viral recently regarding Disney’s 1998 remake of The Parent Trap. The first brought attention to what it called a “plot hole” that a viewer's kids were blown away by, a very young Lindsay Lohan sitting in the front seat of a car while talking to her on-screen dad, Dennis Quaid. A second tweet that has blown up on its own didn’t seem to understand what the issue was.

There are different issues at hand here, and it’s likely that both have led to the second tweet going viral. One group of fans assumed the post didn’t understand why a 12-year-old sitting in the front seat of the car was a problem, leading to many people discussing the fact that in most states today, it wouldn’t be legal for this child to be sitting there, though that certainly wasn’t the case three decades ago. Comments included…

While laws regarding where and how kids can sit in cars vary by state, many, including California where this scene in The Parent Trap takes place, set a height limit of 4’ 9” before kids can sit in the front seat of a car. While finding Lohan’s height when she filmed The Parent Trap is a bit tough right now, considering the actress is 5’5” today, it’s certainly possible she was under that limit when this scene was shot.

But as many commenters point out, while it might be a bit wild to watch this scene today because of modern laws, it certainly wasn’t against the law when the movie was made for Lohan to be sitting in the front seat of a car. Beyond that, even if it was illegal, that still doesn’t make it a “plot hole.”

A plot hole is a gap or contradiction in a story based on the internal rules of the world. A dad putting his daughter in the front seat isn’t a plot hole, even if it happens to be a bad idea. Characters are allowed to make decisions antithetical to good sense and the law. Real people do all the time.

That said, if this conversation gets enough traction and if The Parent Trap 2 ever happens, I fully expect we'll get a scene that references this issue in the same way the Beauty and the Beast remake addressed every "plot hole" in that movie.

From a young age, Lindsay Lohan had a successful career in Hollywood, from her start on soap operas to starring in major movies. Lohan lived in Tinseltown for some time, but she ultimately decided to make the move to Dubai, where she still lives with her family. So why did the former child actress make such a major leap from California to the United Arab Emirates? Well, Lohan provided a very personal explanation for that decision.

Lohan recently spoke with Vogue Arabia, and it was during that chat that the Parent Trap star got real about regretting the decision to stay in L.A. when she was younger instead of heading back to her native state of New York. By the time Lohan was in her late 20s in 2014, she found comfort in Dubai, and she just opened about how her career played into her relocation:

Lindsay Lohan previously said that she needed to “break the cycle” of being pigeonholed in certain roles. After spending a big portion of her career starring in family-friendly roles and her later dramatic roles not striking much of a chord, I can’t blame the star for wanting to find a new direction by moving to a new location.

Of course, Lohan's career has been on the upswing in recent years. In 2026, she was back in action for Freakier Friday (which is streamable with a Disney+ subscription). She's also starred in three Netflix rom-coms, and the actress plans to make a “wild” career first by starring in a drama TV series, Count My Lies, which is expected to stream on Hulu later this year. While Lohan is now booked and busy, it seems she still has no interest in returning to Los Angeles.

A lot of working Hollywood stars have found homes outside of the City of Angels. Chris Hemsworth and his family moved to Byron Bay for their kids to be surrounded by nature, and Jessica Simpson moved her family to Nashville to be around the country music scene there. As for Lindsay Lohan’s move to Dubai, here’s what she loves about her new home away from LA:

As for what’s important to Lohan, other than her growth in adult roles, is her family. Lohan met her husband, Bader Shammas, on a blind date while in Dubai, and they got married three years later. Then, in 2023, the Herbie: Fully Loaded actress gave birth to her son, Luai, and she's been raising him overseas since. Embracing a more grounded life in Dubai is clearly what Lohan wanted to evolve as an artist, wife and mother, and I'm glad she's happy.

On top of that, another benefit Lohan has stated about living in Dubai is finally having her privacy. Here's how she described that feeling:

It's no secret that Lohan's personal life was a major topic of discussion during the early aughts. She was arguably a fixture within tabloids during the 2000s. Considering the public scrutiny she received years ago, it's heartwarming to see that she's made a home where she not only feels comfortable but protected as well.

As Lindsay Lohan remains in Dubai, I'm, of course, still pumped to see what she delivers in terms of her acting gigs. She may have been in the game for years, but only now does it feel like the entertainment industry is truly her oyster. Here's hoping she continues to churn out fun projects while maintaining her peace of mind in Dubai.

When it comes to the premier teen idols of the early 2000s, there’s no doubt Hilary Duff and Lindsay Lohan are amongst the most iconic stars to fit that bill. Both of the actresses amassed a lot of notoriety due to their work with Disney. As Lohan and Duff became popular during the early aughts, there were also rumors of a brewing feud between them. One long-running piece of lore has even suggested that Duff crashed Lohan’s Freaky Friday premiere as part of that spat. Now, Duff is explaining what happened.

Millennials have had an opportunity to soak in nostalgia lately, as Hilary Duff has been reminiscing while promoting her first album in over a decade, Luck... or Something. As part of the press tour, Duff recently appeared on the Call Her Daddy podcast (as seen on YouTube), and host Alex Cooper quizzed her on some long-held rumors. When asked whether she actually showed up at Lindsay Lohan’s movie premiere without her knowledge, Duff smiled and said:

Well, fellow kids of the 2000s, we finally have a definite answer regarding this situation. Not only that, but Duff also summed up her relationship with Lohan, at that time, in a relatively direct way:

Honestly, I love the fact that Duff just went ahead and spilled the tea and did so without sugarcoating it (or being too messy, for that matter). There’s also an interesting wrinkle to this entire situation, though, as the “Come Clean” singer revealed a very interesting tidbit. It turns out she was actually invited to that movie premiere. And fans may or may not gasp when they learn who apparently extended that invitation:

Murray – another teen idol of the 2000s – notably played Jake opposite Lohan’s Anna in 2003’s Freaky Friday (which is streamable with a Disney+ subscription). Of course, Murray also played the role of Austin in Duff’s A Cinderella Story (accessible using a Prime Video subscription), which hit theaters in 2004 and filmed around the time Freaky premiered. Given that timeline and the fact that Duff and Murry became close, it made sense that he would ask her to attend his premiere. Still, this is a feud-fueled situation if there ever was one.

Of course, though, Hilary Duff and Lindsay Lohan – who are both now married and have kids – have definitely grown up since then. The pair have also had their share of success and haven’t shied away from their Disney roots. Lohan reprised her role as Anna for the long-hoped-for Freaky Friday sequel, Freakier Friday. Meanwhile, Duff filmed two episodes of a Lizzie McGuire revival several years ago before it was scrapped over creative differences. As for where the two starlets stand with each other today, Duff said this:

There are people who love their share of drama and gossip, but I love that this premiere tidbit can now be put to rest. What’s even sweeter is that there now seems to be no sign of a Duff/Lohan feud.

Over 20 years after being in Mean Girls, Rachel McAdams remains a standout star. From blockbusters like Doctor Strange to beloved romance like The Notebook to acclaimed dramas like Spotlight to fun comedies like Game Night, she has demonstrated wonderful range and skill, and she has also proven to be a box office draw (as demonstrated just this past weekend with the #1 debut of Send Help). Her talent has been apparent from the beginning, so one would be understood asking this question: why didn’t she play the leading role of Cady Heron in Mean Girls instead of the villainous Regina George?

For what it’s worth, McAdams auditioned for the movie thinking that she wouldn’t get any role at all – as she revealed in a recent interview with People. She initially went out for the role of Cady, but she recalls not having any real confidence in herself to land the role. Said the actress,

At the time, Rachel McAdams was in the earliest era of her career. Her filmography included a couple of TV movies, a couple of single-episode TV show appearances, a couple of indies… and the female lead of the critically panned Rob Schneider comedy The Hot Chick. She was just starting out – but she did love the Mean Girls screenplay written by Tina Fey and wanted any kind of part in it.

It wasn’t her audition itself that stopped her from landing the role of Cady, however. At the time, she was in her mid-20s, and while it’s far from uncommon for actors that age to play high schoolers, McAdams wasn’t deemed right for the ingénue lead… but she was deemed to have the right look for the movie’s antagonist. The actress recalls director Mark Waters explaining it to her, saying:

Lindsay Lohan was the big headlining star and earned the lion’s share of the acclaim when the teen-centric comedy went on to make $130.1 million at the global box office – but it certainly doesn’t seem like Rachel McAdams is complaining about how things turned out.

The Freakier Friday release this year offered fans of the original movie a lot of nostalgia (and clever callbacks). One highlight of the new comedy is how it brought back the fictional female-led punk band Pink Slip in a big way. When CinemaBlend spoke to Freaker Friday’s director, she told us about getting the band back together and whether Lohan really can shred a guitar.

Nisha Ganatra was brought on to helm Freakier Friday following fans of the beloved Disney comedy basically speaking the sequel into existence. During our interview with the director, she said this about reuniting Pink Slip:

If you recently watched Freakier Friday, which is new on streaming this week, and wondered if Lindsay Lohan can really play the guitar like Anna Coleman in real life, the director just answered that question. Per Ganatra, not only did Lohan do the guitar parts for Pink Slip in the original movie, it was no problem for her to get back into rockstar mode for Freakier Friday.

For the sequel that premiered on the 2025 movie schedule, all the original members from Pink Slip return, including the lead singer Maddlie (Christina Vidal), guitarist Peg (Haley Hudson) and bassist Scott (Danny Rubin). In a scene filmed at the Wiltern in Los Angeles, Pink Slip gets to reunite to play “Take Me Away”, which was written by punk band Lash for the original movie. A new song also joined the sequel called “Baby”, written by songwriter Sarah Aarons and sung by Lohan and Julia Butters.

Hudson and Rubin have actually since formed their own band called Hudson Rubin, and one of their songs was also used in Freakier Friday. In a separate interview with Billboard, Christina Vidal said getting back together with her Pink Slip bandmates felt like “no time passed,” and when she went to record the new version of “Take Me Away” for this movie, she “immediately remembered everything.”

Even though Lohan knew what she was doing, the movie’s music producer Suzy Shinn said that for the new version of “Take Me Away,” she decided to alter the solo “a little bit” to reflect how Anna might have changed as an artist herself over the years. And, she crushed it on the Wiltern stage scene.

While it may have been over 20 years between Freaky Friday and Freakier Friday, the sequel shows that Pink Slip very much has still got it, and Lohan can still rock (obviously)!

When it comes to movie stars, Jamie Lee Curtis is the real deal. The actress, and daughter of two famed Hollywood actors from the generation before her, has shown she can do everything from comedy to horror to action throughout her career thus far. Curtis recently got behind the wheel of a red hot convertible to film a memorable scene with Lindsay Lohan for one of the 2025 movie releases, Freakier Friday.

Jamie Lee Curtis Got High Praise For Her Car Stunt Work In Freakier Friday

The Freaky Friday sequel recently became available to own on digital, and it was accompanied by bonus feature content about what happened behind the scenes. In the featurette titled “Making Things Freakier,” director Nisha Ganatra talked about filming the scene where Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan, who are body-swapped as teenagers, go on a joyride in Jake’s car around Los Angeles. In her words:

It’s true. Jamie Lee Curtis is credited as a stunt driver on Freakier Friday alongside her stunt double Jennifer Caputo, who was in the first Fast & Furious movie. There were a few stunt drivers and doubles with history on the high-octane franchise involving a lot of fast cars, and the fact that they let the 66-year-old do some of the stunts really speaks to her ability, especially if she was named “one of the best they’d seen”.

But as Ganatra spoke of, Lindsay Lohan was also in the car with her some of the time, and she was genuinely terrified of Curtis' fast driving. In the scene, you can see Lohan’s fear, and perhaps how she didn’t have to dig too deep to nail her scenes while Curtis rode around the streets of Los Angeles like a teen who hasn’t passed their driving exam might.

What Other Famous Stunts Has Jamie Lee Curtis Done?

Jamie Lee Curtis famously did a huge helicopter stunt and all the limousine stuntwork while filming True Lies with Arnold Schwarzenegger and director James Cameron back in the day. In an interview with IndieWire back in 2023, Curtis said she’s “willing to do almost anything” when it comes to stunt work, and has “zero fear.”

For her last time playing Laurie Strode in 2022’s Halloween Kills, the director said she did “98%” of the stunts, including one where Michael Myers smashes her head into the glass that was actually her idea, per Business Insider. Curtis is impressive no matter what, but knowing this about her just adds to why she’s such an iconic actor.

When it comes to 2025 movie releases, I don’t think I’ve laughed harder than when Freakier Friday came out. The long-awaited sequel that has Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis swapping bodies with teenagers is a blast, and after finding box office success over the summer, it’s available to own on digital platforms. The sequence titled “Malibu Shark” extends the portion of Freakier Friday where Lindsay Lohan’s Anna Coleman, who is stuck in the body of her teen daughter, Harper, has been sentenced to detention, with her mom Tess (Curtis) in the body of her step-daughter-to-be, Lily. While they are picking up recyclables from underneath the bleachers, the deleted scene shows more depth to Anna and Harper’s relationship through a conversation with a couple of her friends.

Anna learns that Harper is prone to keep secrets from her mom, such as the time she came face-to-face with a great white shark or sneaked on a yacht with them. Since her friends are unknowingly speaking to Harper’s mom, they had no idea of course, but Anna’s reaction shows some of the pitfalls of swapping bodies with your daughter. Clearly, they had become not as close, and Anna’s deep want to keep Harper safe led her to hide things from her, and perhaps talk to Grandma Tess instead.

The deleted scene offers more from the original script about the relationships at the core of Freakier Friday, as well as some additional laughs. It only makes me want to see more of what’s in store from the bonus features. As mentioned before, there are nine more deleted scenes to find, including an extended dance lesson with SNL star Chloe Fineman, more from the pickleball game, and Elaine Hendrix’s reunion with Lindsay Lohan after they worked together previously on The Parent Trap.

Freakier Friday came together thanks to fans calling for it for years. Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan have remained friends since the movie came out in 2003, and they jumped at the chance at expanding the story of the Coleman’s over 20 years after the original movie. It’s a lot of fun to see what Anna is like as a mom, what Tess is like as a grandmother, and what happens when a new body-swapping story between four people unfolds.

There were tons of fun callbacks to the original movie and fun developments for supporting characters, like confirming one theory I had about Chad Michael Murray’s Jake. Disney’s 1998 iteration of The Parent Trap remains a solid staple within pop culture nearly three decades after its debut. That enduring popularity is arguably not only because of Lindsay Lohan’s winning performance as twin sisters Annie and Hallie but also because of the solid supporting cast. Character actress Polly Holliday was also part of that ensemble and, sadly, she just passed away. After the news of Holliday’s death became public knowledge, Lohan, PT director Nancy Meyers and more paid tribute to her.

In Nancy Meyers’ beloved family comedy (which is streamable with a Disney+ subscription), Polly Holliday plays the role of Marva Kulp Sr., the kind director and owner of Camp Walden. Holliday may only appear during the first third of the film, but the seasoned comedic actor plays her role to perfection. Meyers took to Instagram after learning about the late actress’ passing, and she shared a still from Parent Trap. Not only that, but the filmmaker also shared a sweet message in Holliday’s honor as her caption:

As part of the film, Holliday was also able to share the screen with Lindsay Lohan while making the Disney movie. Lohan responded to Holliday’s passing by sharing a sweet comment under Nancy Meyers’ post. When sharing her recollection, Lohan summed up her late co-star with some truly kind words:

Another cast member to comment on the Gremlins alum’s death was Lisa Ann Walter, who plays witty and loving housekeeper Chessy in The Parent Trap. In addition to offering her condolences, Walter also admitted that she never realized that it was Holliday playing Marva Kulp in the film:

Polly Holliday was indeed a talented star, whose career spanned both the stage and screen. When it came to TV, she became a breakout star when she played the role of Florence Jean "Flo" Castleberry on the hit ‘70s sitcom, Alice. Holliday would eventually reprise Castleberry – who was known for her iconic catchphrase, “Kiss my grits” – on a short-lived spinoff, Flo. For her work as Flo on the OG show, Holliday earned two Golden Globe Awards as well as three consecutive Emmy nominations. She also received a single Globe and Emmy nod each for her work on the spinoff show. Throughout her career, Holliday also appeared in films and TV shows like The Golden Girls, Mrs. Doubtfire, Home Improvement and The Heartbreak Kid.

While the Stick It alum’s presence in The Parent Trap is limited, her work still positively adds to the film’s legacy. As of late, fans have even been calling for a sequel to the Lindsay Lohan film due to her reuniting with cast member Elaine Hendrix (Meredith Blake) in Freakier Friday. It’s unclear if that will actually happen, but Lisa Ann Walter believes it may be “doable.”

Chad Michael Murray recently got to return to one of his first movie roles ever by starring in Freakier Friday with Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis over 20 years later. Since he’s a father of three with wife Sarah Roemer nowadays, the actor recently shared what happened when he shared the 2003 Disney comedy with his kids, and it led to a lot of funny jabs at his expense.

Freakier Friday has been one of the more successful 2025 movie releases between making back its budget during its opening weekend before going on to make $135.4 million worldwide, making it the most successful comedy of the year (so far). Plus, it’s gotten high praise, as you can see in our Freakier Friday review, for example.

However, the actor's kids were tougher critics, as he recalled what it was like going down memory lane with his family:

Murray shared the story in an interview with Newsweek while talking about how having a family, whom he calls “the pack,” changes the way he chooses his roles. The actor said that since he’s become a father, it’s “changed everything” in terms of how he picks projects, because he knows it will affect them at home and school. He also wants to look “cool” to his kids, which didn’t end up being the case regarding Freaky Friday. As he continued:

Ah, yes, the curse of being a parent. No matter what you do, even if that’s being a teen heartthrob in a beloved Disney comedy, it’s near-impossible to seem cool.

Murray hilariously recalls his kids making fun of him the whole time for his appearance, singing voice and so forth. As he points out, Jake isn’t supposed to be good at singing, though. As Murray told CinemaBlend in our interview with him, filming his Britney Spears moment was very embarrassing for him because he had to belt “...Baby One More Time” in a real neighborhood at night, and people started taking notice. Murray and Roemer have a 10-year-old son and two daughters who are around the ages of 8 and 2. The Freakier Friday actor said he and his family are called “the pack” because they “travel everywhere” together.

During the interview, Chad Michael Murray shared that being at home with his kids is “the greatest moments in life” and the No. 1 priority for him, along with his faith. It’s important for him to give his kids a “grounded life” so they primarily live in Buffalo, New York.

With all that said, it’s rather funny that they roasted him, considering Murray is considered “cool” by so many people.

Now that I look back, while I was growing up in the late '90s and early 2000s, I was desperately looking to media for any semblance of female representation to reflect my inner self. Even though that’s an era from just 20-ish years ago, it already feels like things were so much different back then. A lot of leading women were fantasies that showed me I was supposed to be happy, pretty, perfect, and ambitious, with life centered around the men in my world. When I was watching Freakier Friday, I realized that while that was all true, its predecessor, Freaky Friday was a rare exception.

The 2003 Disney movie was one of the first exposures I had to women in punk rock bands (before becoming a big fan of the genre), and I want to talk about why seeing the sequel actually made that element of it even better.

Freaky Friday Was One Of The First Times I Saw A Female Rock Band

Obviously, women and punk rock have been together since the 1970s, but because I was a hardcore Disney kid when Freaky Friday first came out, I realize now that influences like it really opened my eyes to a different side of womanhood, which I would fall more in love with later on. One where women could be angry or messy and that was OK – celebrated, even.

It seems a little silly now given it’s a fun Disney comedy about body swapping, , but Freaky Friday is one of those movies from my childhood that stuck with me. I see now (yes, I recently rewatched it) that it's because of how genuine and relatable its relationships are, especially between Lindsay Lohan’s Anna and her mom, Jamie Lee Curtis’ Tess. In the first movie, the most important thing to Anna at the time is her garage band, Pink Slip, which predominantly consists of female musicians, with Anna being the star guitar player.

Sure, Pink Slip is most definitely a Disney version of a garage band, but “Take Me Away” is kind of the perfect introduction to why I love punk music. The song, which I recently found out was written by the Aussie punk rock band, Lash, has lyrics like “I’m too thin, too fat, you ask why,” which questions why a norm exists and speaks to the feminine rage of never winning when it comes to one’s appearance. Freaky Friday was one gateway drug for me in the musical genre!

When Freaky Friday Came Out The Punk Scene Was Male-Dominated

There've been a lot of fictional rock bands in movies, but there’s something special about Pink Slip, because in 2003, it was pretty radical to see a female-fronted band in a mainstream movie. It was super cool back then, but when it comes to the punk/rock scene at the time (as the soundtrack reflects) male-dominated acts like Simple Plan, American Hi-Fi and Bowling For Soup were a lot more well-known and getting those big hits more than bands like Pink Slip.

Paramore would ultimately become the punk rock group of my upbringing with a female voice when their first album came out two years later, and I first heard the angst of their hit song “Misery Business” on a bus ride to school and officially started to shed my Disney icons and branch out my music taste.

Pink Slip’s Portrayal In The Sequel Shows How Far The Scene Has Come

Cut to Freakier Friday, which is out twenty-two years after the original, and is already having a good run at the box office along with being well reviewed by critics (such as in our Freakier Friday review). While some versions of the sequel might have glossed over the Pink Slip plotline and made it simply a hobby of her teenage years, the movie makes it canon that Anna and her band found success after we last caught up with them, and Anna has since transitioned into managing and empowering artists including the fictional female pop star named Ella (played by Maitreyi Ramakrishnan), who looked up to Pink Slip when she was growing up.

In recent years, I’ve watched the new generation of punk-influenced bands take inspiration from the women who paved the way in the early 2000s. For example, when I saw the band Meet Me @ The Altar cover “Take Me Away” in front of a crowd, and audiences freak over the Freaky Friday tune being sung. I’ve seen acts like Willow, Olivia Rodrigo and Billie Eilish and so forth cite Paramore as a band that meant the world to them, and influenced their own once-garage bands.

Pink Slip ultimately gets invited to Ella’s show at the Wiltern to play “Take Me Away”, which looks to have become a hit of the early 2000s. As a lifelong punk fan at this point, who has watched the scene grow immensely to the point where I could name beloved band after band of mine who are popular right now and feature a female front woman and/or multiple female musicians, Freakier Friday really reflects how the times have changed for the better in the music industry for women.

Oh, and finally, the soundtrack is packed full of female acts, from The Beaches, Chappell Roan, The Linda Lindas, Tegan and Sara and the Asteroids Galaxy Tour being featured in the movie. While I genuinely think both are great movies (and the first movie of a franchise will always get a leg up for me), Freakier Friday was better for how it not only made a callback to Pink Slip, but how it showed how women in music have really leveled up in the past two decades.

Nowadays, there are a ton of 2025 movies with complicated roles for women, including for young women, such as the phenomenon that is KPop Demon Hunters, for example. There’s something, though, about checking in with one that was an early favorite of mine in life, and seeing its own storyline progress to reflect the growth of something I love over the years, that really made the movie all the more amazing.

It’s been a treat for many fans to see Lindsay Lohan reprise her role as Anna Coleman alongside Jamie Lee Curtis when the sequel Freakier Friday hit the 2025 movie calendar. The follow-up to the 2003 flick became the “#1 comedy in America” upon its release, which naturally got people thinking about revisiting other LiLo movies. The Parent Trap from 1998 remains a much-beloved title, but should a sequel even be an option without Natasha Richardson? Lisa Ann Walter weighed in.

Lisa Ann Walter is well-known these days for her role on Abbott Elementary, but even her colleagues on the ABC sitcom remember her as Chessy from The Parent Trap. Speaking to People recently, the actress seemed into the idea of reviving the role, but she said Natasha Richardson’s death would have to be acknowledged thoughtfully, and other members of the cast might not be as into the idea. Walter said:

It would definitely be a difficult topic to broach, and Dennis Quaid — who played Nick, the father of twins Annie and Hallie — should definitely have a say in whether or not to continue the Parker-James story without Natasha Richardson — who played their mother, Elizabeth. Lisa Ann Walter is probably right, though, in that there’s likely a gentle and honorable way to do it. “If Nancy Meyers wrote it,” Walter said, she’d definitely be in.

Natasha Richardson died tragically in 2009 after falling and hitting her head during a skiing lesson. She thought she was OK but hours later developed a severe headache. She was airlifted from Quebec to a hospital in New York City, where she died two days later from a brain bleed.

It sounds like if a Parent Trap reboot or sequel were to happen, everyone involved — assuming Dennis Quaid and Lindsay Lohan would be on board — would want to treat the late actress’ memory as delicately as possible. As for if it should happen or will happen, we’ll have to wait and see.

This certainly isn’t the first time Lisa Ann Walter has discussed such a project. She even pitched an idea for The Parent Trap 2 that (not surprisingly) included a redemption arc for Meredith Blake — the supposedly evil would-be stepmother to Lindsay Lohan’s twins. In real life Walter is best friends with Elaine Hendrix, who played the villain in question and, when you really think about it, maybe Meredith wasn’t as bad as we originally thought.

I’ll be excited to see if any talks develop as far as furthering Annie and Hallie’s story (or Chessy and Martin’s, which was another idea from Lisa Ann Walter). In the meantime, though, the 1998 classic is available to stream with a Disney+ subscription or as part of a Disney bundle.

Did you catch The Parent Trap reunion in Freakier Friday? Well, when Lindsay Lohan’s Anna Coleman is at work during a fashion shoot, Elaine Hendrix is assisting. Hendrix, of course, played the twins’ stepmother-to-be in the 1998 movie who they memorably terrorize during a family camping trip. Following CinemaBlend spoke to Lindsay Lohan about the cameo at the Los Angeles press junket, fans are now calling for a sequel.

During our conversation about the sweet cameo in Freakier Friday, I asked Lohan about what it was like to work with Hendrix again all these years later. What I learned was that they’ve been longtime friends, and had just been talking about a Parent Trap musical happening in New York just the day before our interview. Check out the clip below:

Lindsay Lohan was talking about a Parent Trap parody that’s currently playing on stage in New York called Ginger Twinsies, of which Hendrix is a producer. Fans either thought she was talking about a sequel, or took the opportunity to share their desires for a followup to the Disney movie after Lohan just did her first sequel with Freakier Friday. If it did happen, it would be a lot of work for Lindsay Lohan, who played both roles of Annie and Hallie in the original. At the time, she said playing two characters wasn’t difficult because she “was younger.” You could certainly find a way to bring back Elaine Hendrix, Dennis Quaid, Lisa Ann Walter and Simon Kunz, but the twins’ mother, played by Natasha Richardson, died back in 2009.

I imagine Lindsay Lohan will be getting a lot more of this for The Parent Trap and other beloved early 2000s movies of hers after the success of Freakier Friday. The movie earned back its budget in its first weekend in theaters, and is expected to take home another $14 to $18 million in its second weekend, per Box Office Pro. There are so many fun callbacks in the sequel, but knowing that Lohan is still close with her co-star from her first movie is especially cool. And hey, maybe it will lead to a sequel down the line!

Hot off of her latest return to the big screen with Freakier Friday in the 2025 movie schedule, Lindsay Lohan is on her way to the small screen as star of a new drama coming to Hulu. Suffice it to say that she has more to celebrate than just the Freaky Friday sequel's box office milestone, because she'll be joined in the streaming series by none other than an Emmy-nominated actress to go toe-to-toe with.

Count My Lies features a liar who works her way up to filling the role of nanny for Violet (Lindsay Lohan) and Jay Lockhart, but the role won't be a dream for the scammer. The household is full of secrets, and even without knowing the novel of the same name (penned by Sophie Stava), I feel comfortable predicting that there will be some sky-high stakes. According to Variety, Count My Lies has scored a series order from Hulu and Shailene Woodley of Big Little Lies will play the liar, named Sloane Caraway.

Lohan and Woodley make for an interesting pair of co-leads. Woodley has had multiple major TV roles over the past decade, and will be part of Paradise Season 2 alongside Sterling K. Brown on Hulu. In contrast, Lohan has never had a lead role in a scripted drama series despite a long list of film credits. Both actresses will also serve as executive producers on Count My Lies.

While no premiere date has been announced for when Count My Lies will be available with a Hulu subscription, there's a winning team behind the scenes of the drama. Former This Is Us showrunners Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger are on board as showrunners, writers, and executive producers. In a fun twist, there were already only a few degrees of separation between the new series and Shailene Woodley even before the casting was announced.

Woodley's arrival on Paradise teams her up with This Is Us creator Dan Fogelman as well as former star Sterling K. Brown, both of whom of course worked with Aptaker and Berger during the NBC hit's years in primetime. In addition to Big Little Lies (for which she earned her Emmy nomination) and upcoming role in Paradise Season 2, Woodley has had other main roles in shows including Secret Life of the American Teenager and Three Women. Longtime O.C. viewers may also remember her as the first actress to play Kaitlin Cooper, before then-future Arrow star Willa Holland took over the role.

As for Lindsay Lohan, coming to TV for a lead drama role for the first time isn't the only way that Count My Lies will take her in a different direction. Despite ranking as a rom-com queen and still holding a special place in the hearts of millennials everywhere for Mean Girls, Lohan shared how "nice" it will be to do a project where the culmination of the plot isn't a big kiss at the end.

Count My Lies is being billed as a limited series, so Lohan's first lead TV role isn't going to be an ongoing gig beyond a first season. Still, it should be interesting to see her flexing her acting muscles after many rom-coms and returning to the Freaky Friday world for the sequel opposite Jamie Lee Curtis.

When it comes to comedies on the 2025 movie release calendar, Freakier Friday just made a solid name for itself over this past weekend when the Disney movie debuted in movie theaters. While more and more movies these days aren’t able to make a profit in the competitive and complex landscape that is the Hollywood industry, the Freaky Friday sequel has already passed that milestone.

Freakier Friday’s current worldwide box office haul is reportedly $46.5 million, per Box Office Mojo, and it allegedly was made with a production budget of $45 million. So, the movie has already made back the money spent on it, though I bet that’s before its marketing budget. It’s an impressive score for Freakier Friday and signals it’s looking like a commercial win for the House of Mouse after being the No. 1 comedy in America over the weekend! Jamie Lee Curtis also shared the news:

Curtis declared “WOMEN GET THINGS DONE!” in the Instagram post sharing the good news for Freakier Friday. The movie hit theaters this past weekend to $29 million in domestic box office dollars behind horror movie Weapons claiming the No. 1 spot. That’s over $10 million more than any other comedies this year like The Naked Gun, which opened at $16.8 million on the domestic front, and One of the Them Days, which started off its run with $11.8 million.

That makes Freakier Friday the best live-action comedy opening of 2025 following a positive critical response, including CinemaBlend's Freakier Friday review and fans reactions, like our own Riley Utley applauding the movie over its amazing callbacks. The movie reunites Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan to play mother/daughter Tess and Anna Coleman two decades after they first swapped bodies. This time, they switch with two teenagers, who are determined to break up Anna’s wedding and, in the process, link back with Chad Michael Murray’s Jake.

Freakier Friday was born out of Jamie Lee Curtis asking Disney if they could make the sequel after she met tons of fans who wanted to see a follow-up while touring the world for the Halloween movies. It’s helmed by Nisha Ganatra from a script by Jordan Weiss, and is produced by Curtis alongside Kristen Burr and Andrew Gunn.

Of course, what’s perhaps more impressive to a movie’s success is making a profit past its budget. This coming weekend, the only big release is Nobody 2, which is an action comedy, but also rated R, as opposed to Freakier Friday leaning toward a more family friendly demographic and toward women. So it’s very much possible the Disney comedy could continue have another solid week at the box office and become even a bigger success. We’ll keep you updated as the coming weekend plays out.

Freakier Friday has finally made its debut on the 2025 movie schedule, and as someone who recently rewatched Freaky Friday for the first time in a long time, I couldn’t wait to watch. It didn’t disappoint either. As our Freakier Friday review states, it’s the best time. Plus, it’s full of fun callbacks to the original that are irresistible. However, while I adored those moments, there were two callbacks related to two other Lindsay Lohan films that I loved even more.

The Girls Screaming Into The Mirror And Running Into Each Other

When I think about Freaky Friday, I picture Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis screaming while looking in the mirror after they realize they’ve switched bodies. So, I loved that they did that again in Freakier Friday. However, I was also a fan of how they put a new spin on it. Instead of Anna in Tess’s body yelling, “Oh, I’m like the crypt keeper!” Lily in Tess’s body yells about feeling like she’s “bloody decomposing.”

Along with that callback, Harper and Lily also try to run into each other’s bodies, much like Anna and Tess did the first time. And it’s cute too, because Anna and Tess are quick to tell the teens that that didn’t work the first time.

The Original Women Who Caused Freaky Friday's Switch Showed Up

As I’m sure you remember, in Freaky Friday, the body swap is initiated by Pei-Pei (Rosalind Chao) and Pei-Pei’s mom (Lucille Soong) while Anna, Tess, Ryan and Harry are out for dinner.

In Freakier Friday, the switch happens after Anna, Tess, Harper and Lily all interact with Vanessa Bayer’s Madame Jen. So, Pei-Pei and her mom don’t have anything to do with it this time. However, they are present when it happens, because they’re guests at the party where this whole thing went down.

So, hilariously, when Anna and Tess realize what might happen, they immediately try to blame the women who caused it the first time. However, this time around, they truly had absolutely no involvement in the shenanigans.

The Use Of 'Hit Me Baby One More Time' In The Record Store

Arguably, one of the funniest scenes in Freaky Friday is when Chad Michael Murray’s Jake sings “...Baby One More Time” by Britney Spears at the top of his lungs outside Anna and Tess’s house. He sings it incredibly off-key and makes quite a fool of himself. It’s hilarious.

Then, in Freakier Friday, when Harper (who's in Anna's body) and Lily (who's in Tess's body) go to woo Jake at his record store, the scene is scored by the same Britney Spears song. However, instead of Jake making a fool of himself, the roles are reversed as Harper attempts (and fails) to flirt with him as Anna in an effort to break up her mom and Eric.

Anna's Little Brother Showed Up To Give A Toast

As an older sister with a younger brother, I always got a kick out of Anna’s relationship with her younger bro, Harry, in Freaky Friday. So, I was pleasantly surprised and thrilled when Ryan Malgarini showed up in the sequel all grown up.

While he wasn’t a major part of the movie, he did show up for some of his sister’s wedding festivities and gave a toast. So, it was a nice little nod to the siblings’ relationship in the first movie.

Two Of Pink Slip's Classic Songs Were Prominently Featured

Obviously, this wouldn’t be Freaky Friday without some Pink Slip. While I’m glad they played a new, emotional song, I’m even happier they brought back some of the classics from the original.

During the final concert, Anna and co. played “Take Me Away” and absolutely rocked the house. Then, during the credits, the track “Ultimate,” which is also played at Tess’s wedding during the credits of Freaky Friday, was featured.

I was dancing in my seat at the theater when both these throwbacks played; I couldn’t help it.

October 3rd Is Not Only Anna's Wedding Day, But Mean Girls Day

Did you clock the wedding date for Anna and Eric? I certainly did. It was hard not to, as a huge fan of one of the best movies of the 2000s, Mean Girls. That’s right, Lindsay Lohan’s character got married in Freakier Friday on the same day that Aaron Samuels asked her character Cady what day it was in the 2004 comedy. Talk about serendipity.

And it really was that, too. During an interview with Perri Nemiroff, Lohan admitted that the date was a total coincidence, explaining:

She went on to say that “no one did anything about it,” so she just accepted it as an Easter egg. The film’s director, Nisha Ganatra, apparently didn’t want to do Easter eggs when she learned about this; however, at that point, this one was unavoidable.

So, not only is October 3rd Cady’s favorite day, it’s now probably one of Anna’s favorite days too, which I love for Lindsay Lohan, who plays both of them.

Elaine Hendrix, AKA Meredith Blake From The Parent Trap, Made A Cameo

While there are plenty of cameos from Freaky Friday that we’ve already discussed, my favorite one actually involved a member of The Parent Trap cast.

Yep, Elaine Hendrix, who played the almost-evil stepmother Meredith Blake in The Parent Trap, showed up in Freakier Friday. She played Blake Kale in the movie, a woman who worked for the magazine that Anna’s client, Ella, was doing a photoshoot for.

However, that’s not where The Parent Trap fun ends. At the premiere for the movie, Hendrix brought along Lisa Ann Walter, who played Chessy in the comedy. They took a photo with Lohan, too.

So, all around, both on and off screen, there was an iconic Parent Trap reunion happening thanks to Freakier Friday.

Well, as you can see, Freakier Friday is full of callbacks to both the original 2003 film and some of Lindsay Lohan’s other fantastic flicks, which makes it all the more fun. However, it’s also such a fresh take on this classic tale, making for a great time at the movies.

Wow, you can really feel the love here when it comes to the making of Freakier Friday. The cast looks like they had an absolute blast, and were motivated by making a worthy sequel to the 2003 movie that has been part of lots of people’s lives since it came out that would also speak to younger generations. Curtis was actually the person who made the call to Disney to get a sequel for Freakier Friday going after she heard a lot of fans tell her they wanted to see it while promoting her Halloween trilogy in recent years.

The sequel allowed her to reunite with Lindsay Lohan and a ton of the cast from the original movie, along with introducing new teen characters played by Sophia Hammons and Julia Butters. The up-and-coming pair play new members to the Coleman family who are not getting along amidst Lohan’s Anna, who is a single mom to Butters’ Harper, getting married to Hammons’ dad, Eric (played by Manny Jacinto).

The family deal with more body-swap shenanigans that has the teen girls finding themselves in the bodies of Curtis and Lohan and deciding to scheme to break up their parents. During the movie’s press tour, there’s been a lot of nostalgia involved, from learning that there’s a Parent Trap reunion to Lohan method dressing at the premiere to paying homage to one of her original costumes. During our own interview with returning cast member Chad Michael Murray, the actor told us a funny story about filming the original, too.

Is it the summer of comedy legacyquels? Between Happy Gilmore 2, The Naked Gun reboot and now, Freakier Friday, it certainly seems like it. And I don’t know about you, but I’ve been laughing a lot more lately due to this trend.

In regards to the latest of them, I’ve been anticipating Freakier Friday with trepidation ever since it was announced. The 2003 original Disney comedy is a staple of my childhood, and when I reflect on the original, I think it’s honestly one of the funniest family comedies of my generation. Now that I’ve seen the sequel, I’m so happy it actually lives up to it.

Freakier Friday reunites Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan at a time when both actors are having their own big (but very different) moments compared to when they first swapped bodies. Curtis became an Oscar winner just a couple of years ago at the age of 64, and the 39-year-old Lohan has been enjoying a comeback into Hollywood after almost a decade away from the industry. But it’s incredibly comforting to see these two come together and not miss a beat as they return to their roles as Tess and Anna Coleman: a mother and daughter who, like most mother/daughter duos, will always have issues to work through. It’s a blast to see them at it again for a more rambunctious, yet totally seasoned comedy dynamic that I can also see a whole new generation of young girls falling for.

If you’re a fan of the original Freaky Friday, Freakier Friday is absolutely for you.

One can’t help but do a double-take when it comes to the premise, as Lohan’s Anna is now a mother of her own teen, Julia Butters’ Harper, and she is getting ready to tie the knot to her own Mr. Perfect a.k.a. Eric (played by The Good Place’s Manny Jacinto) after Freaky Friday was about Curtis’ Tess getting married to Mark Harmon’s Ryan. This time around, there’s an added layer because Anna's fiancé has a teen daughter too in Sophia Hammons’ Lily – and the sisters-to-be really do not get along.

After grandma Tess, Anna, Harper and Lily all get their fortune read at Anna’s bachelorette party, Tess gets stuck in Lily’s body, Anna in her daughter’s, Harper in her mom’s and Lily in Tess’. Callbacks are a-plenty between a new mirror scene to rival the “I’m like the crypt-keeper” line and just about every cast member from the original making an appearance one way or the other. (Yes, even Anna’s all-grownup little brother!) Butters and Hammons are not featured in the movie as much as Lohan and Curtis are, but seeing all four of them together is actually a super welcome addition to the plot, and they have some really funny and heartfelt moments of their own.

Freakier Friday finds some quite hilarious reasons to take fans back down memory lane while providing a new story that feels worthwhile. Sure, if you weren’t impressed with the original Freaky Friday, I'm going to guess the new one probably won’t reel you in either. This sequel is for fans like me who laughed out loud time after time watching the original, appreciate the details, and now get to do so again in a completely new phase of life with this continuation.

I love seeing what Tess is like as a grandma and how Anna has become a lot more like her mom in adulthood than she probably would have guessed. (But becoming our parents comes for us all, doesn't it?) The way the plot lines are advanced are rather clever.

The sequel isn’t quite as punk rock as the original (especially due to the more complicated premise), but the movie’s heart is too big for that to be an issue.

The Freakier Friday script isn’t necessarily graceful when it comes to setting up the stakes for the sequel, but once things get freaky one fair Friday and Tess, Anna, Harper and Lily deal with another body-swap curse, the movie gets right on track. While it’s all about belly laughs in the first half, what really helps land the body-swap sequel is the movie's genuine soul. I was just about wiping away my tears during not one but multiple emotional scenes after getting into a laughing fit just 30 minutes earlier, and that’s exactly the kind of feeling I wanted from this movie.

One of Freakier Friday's secret weapons is Manny Jacinto’s Eric – who may be known for dishing out jokes in The Good Place, but in this movie as Anna’s new man, he brings a down-to-earth quality to the film (alongside his quite heartthrobb-y charms) that Harmon held down in the original. In many ways, Freakier Friday can feel like a romantic comedy flipped on its head, and it does so with a beaming confidence.

Another very welcome return in Freakier Friday is Chad Michael Murray’s Jake, who had a hilarious body-swap love triangle of sorts going on with Tess and Anna in the first movie. The sequel plays swiftly with that element in a hilariously believable and lovelably silly way that breathes extra life into the film. And then there’s Vanessa Bayer’s fortune teller character, who brings her SNL wiles to the cast, and makes every scene she is in funnier than the last.

Director Nisha Ganatra successfully helps bring the spirit of the original back with other great comedy experience under her belt, from helming 2019’s Late Night to doing episodes of Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Fresh Off The Boat and The Mindy Project. But, there’s something that is a little bit rough around the edges about the Mark Waters-directed original that is somewhat missing here. For example, Anna’s punk rock phase is over, as she now helps manage a pop star (played by Maitreyi Ramakrishnan), and the soundtrack has a more pop girly framework to it, playing the likes of Chappell Roan and Suki Waterhouse. Still, there are also some fun song choices from women-fronted rock bands, including The Linda Lindas and The Beaches.

There’s also a new Lindsay Lohan song “Baby,” which falls into the pop ballad territory. It makes sense given we’re at a time when female-fronted acts are a lot more hip then they were in 2003, but the new song isn't going to hit the levels "Ultimate" and "Take Me Away" had on my childhood. Perhaps the movie knows this, and thankfully it gives one of the songs an encore in the sequel. I was cheering at the sight of seeing Lohan back in Pink Slip, and yes, she still does that awesome guitar solo like it was yesterday.

Freakier Friday wins as a theatrical comedy for the whole family at a time when they just don’t exist anymore.

Overall, there’s certainly some generic filmmaking choices here that could have used a bit more umph. But we’re also talking about one of the few theatrical family comedies we’ve seen in movie theaters in some time. With that factored in, I’m really impressed it’s packed with a ton of soul as it is. This isn’t high-brow territory, but Jamie Lee Curtis running around Los Angeles in ridiculous teenage-geared outfits with Lindsay Lohan trying to tell her to flirt is one of my highlight moments going to the movies this year, and I know I won't be the only one.

When it comes to the original Freaky Friday, I always found that Jamie Lee Curtis getting to embody a teenager had all the fun, whilst a young Lohan impressively played the straight-laced Tess in a teen body. This time around, both actresses get to play teenagers together, as Anna’s daughter and Eric’s daughter get stuck in their bodies and decide to try to break up their parent’s upcoming marriage, and it’s simply a ball to see these two get into funny scenarios that also remain well-fitted for its PG, family-friendly rating.

Curtis is once again the real scene-stealer here, playing an even more unhinged role as a prim and proper British teen stuck in a grandmother’s body, while Lohan gets to both evolve for the present day and provide the nostalgia of embodying a teen again. With this new dynamic, Freakier Friday is also kind of a buddy comedy in a lot of ways, and that was absolutely the right move for fans like me who want to see more of the Freaky Friday magic.

At a time when other Disney sequels for Hocus Pocus, Disenchanted went straight to streaming and the studio has been stuck in live-action retreads after retreads the past few years, this is a rare legacyquel I’m not rolling my eyes at. It has the kind of fan service I'm looking for, and I'm already looking forward to a second viewing.

Lindsay Lohan’s time in the spotlight has been varied. She garnered attention as a tween after starring in The Parent Trap and sustained an acting career as a teenager with movies like Freaky Friday, Mean Girls, and Herbie: Fully Loaded. Things took a turn in her 20s, when Lohan encountered legal trouble which resulted in career setbacks. Now she is in a refreshed new phase of her career, and is looking back on being famous so young and why she thinks things are different now.

In a recent interview with The Times, Lohan got candid about becoming famous at only 12 years old, but starting her Hollywood career modeling at 3 years old, and starring in soap operas quickly thereafter. She is thankful for the opportunities she had to grow her career as an actress, however being famous was not all it was cracked up to be, and being followed around as a teenager certainly wasn’t what she wanted. Lohan only became famous the more she worked. She was doing multiple films a year that she constantly had to promote as well. She did television appearances, red carpets, and hosted Saturday Night Live four times. Lohan was seemingly unstoppable, and so was the star that was rising. But becoming famous so young, so fast when she was still trying to discover who she was, ended up being negative for her public image and led her to some of the less glamorous moments in her career.

The Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen star ended up dropping out of the spotlight, and is now able to look back on her child star days, and wild 20s with open eyes and an open heart. She believes that going so fast at such a young age was how she ran into trouble, and she believes that the tabloid era she became famous exacerbated the situation. Lohan explained that she’s jealous of young actors coming up now because they have more of an independent voice these days with social media, and she thinks her career would’ve been different had she come of age now. The actress said:

This is an interesting point, as social media allows actors to express themselves the way they want to be viewed, instead of a tabloid taking control of a story and dictating a public image. As a result, Lohan is much more of a private citizen these days. She got married in 2022 and Lohan welcomed a baby boy in 2023. The actress has also re-located to Dubai, where she has lived for over 10 years. She has been open about her struggles with addiction and her sobriety journey.

This step away ended up being healing, and Lohan has gotten her career back on track, starring in rom-coms like Irish Wish and Our Little Secret. Lohan has expressed ambitions for even more juicy roles in the future, and is truly proud of the actress for overcoming some struggles she had from being in the public eye so young. I personally can’t wait to see what she does next, and am rooting for her.

It’s a shame that early in her career, Lindsay Lohan wasn’t given the opportunities to star in Oscar-worthy dramas. Sure, the former teen idol has plenty of comedic chops, which have been on display in great films. However, she was and is still capable of driving me to tears. Even her family-friendly movies like The Parent Trap and Life-Size get me in my feels. In Count My Lies (which will be streamable with a Hulu subscription), Lohan will play a conniving nanny, and that role could show her complexity and range as an actress. In turn, the opportunity could possibly pave the way for more varied acting jobs.

Lohan's Hulu show, which will mark a “first” in that she won't have a romantic interest, isn't the only matter on her mind. Dark material isn't the only kind of work she's looking to do. In fact, Lohan name-dropped a few icon films when explaining what kind of roles she's looking for. I also can't deny the argument she makes:

Honestly, I can't say I blame Lindsay Lohan for seeking out such work. After all, those aforementioned movies are classic for a reason, and films like those are arguably in short supply these days. Such productions are not only are they simply entertaining, but they feature strong storytelling and complex characters. Given her statements on the movies and her career, it sounds like Lohan is prepared to control her own destiny and seek out (or create) varied roles for herself. Quite frankly, I love to see it.

It's wild to say this, given how long Lohan has been working but, now more than ever, it feels like the world is her oyster. As a longtime fan, I can't wait to see what she does now that she's made it her goal to expand her professional horizons. More immediately, fans can look forward to watching Lohan light up the screen in the 2025 movie release, Freakier Friday, which opens in theaters on August 8th.

We know Zendaya and Margot Robbie are queens of method dressing for the movies they’re promoting; however, I think we need to add Lindsay Lohan and her Freakier Friday looks to that list. That’s because she hasn’t just been dressing to fit the theme of her project on the 2025 movie schedule; she’s also bringing all the nostalgia by paying homage to the original Freaky Friday with a lavender dress and guitar purse.

In the lead-up to Freakier Friday’s release, Lindsay Lohan’s fashion game has been top-notch. She embraced Barbiecore for a few of the Freaky Friday sequel's events, and she paid homage to one of her other classics, The Parent Trap, at others. However, this lavender look she rocked that even included a little guitar purse, pun intended, for the UK premiere is by far my favorite, take a look:

I truly cannot decide if I'm more obsessed with the dress or the purse. However, I think that's perfectly fine, because ultimately they work together to create a cohesive and nostalgic outfit.

Now, without even knowing the reference, I would have been obsessed with this sparkly light purple gown by Ludovic de Saint Sernin. It’s a custom metallic mesh dress with “golden shadow Swarovski crystal embellishments.” Talk about opulent and utterly stunning!

However, the reference and nostalgia make it a million times better (which is saying a lot because it was already perfection). I had a hunch that this gown directly referenced the final scene in Freaky Friday. However, Lohan’s stylist Andrew Mukamal – who is notably also Margot Robbie’s stylist – confirmed it when he posted her look on Instagram alongside a still image from the OG movie.

As you can see in my screenshot from Freaky Friday below, the details in Lohan’s premiere look lineup almost perfectly with Anna’s wedding look from the final scene of the 2003 film:

I mean, it goes all the way down to the guitar purse, which I’m also obsessed with, and you can see below in detail, by the way! Seriously, all these little details make me even more enthralled with this ensemble Lindsay Lohan and her team pulled together for this event.

As someone who recently re-watched Freaky Friday with my Disney+ subscription and is so excited to see this long-awaited sequel, the star’s premiere outfit was like the cherry on top. It truly highlighted my biggest hope for this movie, which is that it will be a project that leans into everything we love about the original while also providing a fresh perspective and take.

It seems like that will happen too, based on Freakier Friday’s trailer, as we see that Lohan’s Anna and Jamie Lee Curtis’ Tess switch bodies with Anna’s daughter and soon-to-be step-daughter instead of each other.

So, get excited, folks, because I think this movie, which hits theaters on August 8, will rock, just like Lohan did in that purple dress at the end of Freaky Friday and on the red carpet of Freakier Friday’s premiere.

Elaine Hendrix played the twins’ stepmother-to-be, Meredith Blake, in Lohan’s first movie in 1998. The camping trip scene where Hallie and Annie raise hell on Meredith lives rent free in the heads of many Disney kids, so how lovely is it that Freakier Friday has a little nod to another one of Lohan’s movies? Here’s what Lohan told me about how Hendrix was cast in the movie:

Lindsay Lohan was twelve years old when she played dual roles of Annie and Hallie (which was honestly Oscar-worthy given I and many people thought Lohan really was a twin when it came out). As the actress shared during our interview, the Freakier Friday director is friends with Hendrix, and the decision was made sort of on a “whim”. When I asked Lohan if she’s stayed in contact with Hendrix over the years, she said this:

Lohan is talking about an off-Broadway The Parent Trap musical parody called Ginger Twinsies that is currently playing at the Orpheum Theatre from director Kevin Zak. Per an Instagram post from last month, Elaine Hendrix actually joined the producing team of the show.

The early August release is fast approaching, and I’m so here for how the Our Little Secret actress has embraced Barbiecore for her premiere looks.

What Are Lindsay Lohan’s Barbiecore ‘Fits For The Freakier Friday Premieres?

While we are all well aware that the Barbenheimer joy of 2023 is far behind us, I don’t think there’s a fashion lover in the world who’d say that there is ever a wrong time to rock pink. Especially when you consider that the long-awaited Freakier Friday will feature an appearance from Lindsay Lohan’s Anna literally rocking out with her band, Pink Slip, again.

The star of some of the best 2000s movies has been busy promoting her new comedy (which, along with Jamie Lee Curtis, also stars Sophia Hammons, Julia Butters, Manny Jacinto and returning faves like Chad Michael Murray), and is going hard on Barbiecore for “purple” carpet appearances. Just look:

Isn’t this gown just dreamy? She could literally be, like, a Movie Premiere Barbie in this ‘fit. Harper’s Bazaar has the details on this pinktastic look, and Lohan took the lead in a floor-length Miu Miu dress that’s dotted with silver rhinestones. If you happen to be wondering why she’s carrying a microphone, well that’s not only clearly a nod to Anna’s band, but actually the Mean Girls star’s purse, which is a $4,995 Judith Leiber design.

With the Lohanaissance now running at an A+, Parent Trap level it makes sense that the star would choose a happy color like pink to help promote her new film. The number of celebs who’ve worn the cheery Barbiecore look (over the past couple of years in particular) is nearly innumerable, with everyone from Barbie stars Ryan Gosling and Margot Robbie (who turned up in classic Barbie doll ‘fits many times) took on method dressing, with others like Florence Pugh and Sabrina Carpenter taking the bright hue into 2024 and 2025. Trust me, this is way better than the low-rise jeans of the early aughts that Lohan had to deal with!

If you think bright was only on the look list for 2-year-old Luai’s mom, however, think again. Lohan rocked pink again while at the movie’s Mexico City premiere with Curtis, who also lit up the room in a lovely citrusy shade:

Lohan chose a fuchsia shade this time around and is simply gorgeous in this ruched and ruffled Balmain gown, while Curtis sported an orange Carolina Herrera sweater and skirt, which was covered with ombre sequins that added a teensy bit of Barbiecore to her ‘fit as well. I have to say, there are so many shades of pink that literally no one looks bad in it, and I kinda hope to see Lohan continue this dressing method for a long time to come!

Freaky Friday was a big part of my childhood. Long before a Disney+ subscription existed, I’d watch the movie on TV over and over; however, I hadn’t seen the 2003 classic in a very long time. So, with Freakier Friday set to premiere soon on the 2025 movie schedule, I decided to revisit the OG Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis film for the first time as an adult, and I need to talk about the unsung hero and unexpected MVP of it.

It's Mark Harmon’s Character!

So, as I stated, I watched Freaky Friday a lot as a kid, and it came out when I was 4 years old. I’ve always loved Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis’ shenanigans as Anna and Tess, I wanted to be as cool as Anna, and obviously, I had a crush on Chad Michael Murray’s Jake. I also can’t deny how empowering and loving Anna and Tess’s story is as they switch places and literally walk a mile in each other’s shoes.

However, rewatching it for the first time as an adult ahead of Freakier Friday’s release, I realized I never really truly appreciated Mark Harmon’s character Ryan. Tess’s fiancé-turned-husband is such a sweet, caring and considerate character, and as we’re about to discuss, he’s the MVP of this film.

Ryan Got His Partner A Great Career Opportunity

From the jump, it’s pretty clear that Ryan is a great partner for Tess. He cares about her family, and he’s accepting of their circumstances. However, it becomes abundantly clear that he goes above and beyond for this family when he gets Jamie Lee Curtis’ character on a talk show to promote her book.

Things don’t go great during that moment, because Anna is Tess. However, it’s the gesture that counts! And what Ryan did was really sweet, thoughtful and genuinely impactful.

Ryan Let Anna Go To The Concert And Then Asked Tess To Go Watch Her

My guy Ryan also understands and respects his soon-to-be-stepdaughter’s passions, and he’s very supportive of them. At the rehearsal dinner, when Anna’s friends come to get her for their performance, he encourages her to go. It’s the sweetest thing ever, and I was even more ready for the wedding bells to ring for him and Tess when he said this to his partner (who was actually his stepdaughter):

That kind of speech is such a green flag, and then we got another when he prompted Tess to go watch Anna perform, which ultimately helped them switch back. He didn’t even know they were swapped at the time; he’s just that supportive and caring.

Ryan Stuck Through ALL That Switch Nonsense, And He Did So With Grace And Love

In the end, the reason why Mark Harmon’s character is the MVP of this movie comes down to how well he handles this body-swapping comedy. Think about it, while Tess and Anna’s situation is hilarious, if you were actually there and experiencing it, it would be incredibly weird and hard to handle. If I were him, I would have freaked out.

However, Ryan rode the chaotic waves immaculately, and his love for Tess never ever wavered. He really handled it all with grace and love and more than proved himself as a worthy addition to the family. So, to quote Anna’s friend, “Mr. Dude, you rock!”

Now, I can’t wait to see Mark Harmon’s Ryan back in Freakier Friday and reunited with Jamie Lee Curtis’ Tess. I want to see how marriage has been for them, and I desperately hope we get to see him handle another wild body-swap among his family with the same poise and supportive attitude again, because he really is an MVP.

The Parent Trap is endlessly re-watchble, which is why this particular reunion is so exciting to see. Walter and Hendrix formed a lifelong friendship, and their characterizations of Chessy and Meredith Blake are truly iconic. Of course, the same can also be said for a young Lohan playing two different roles.

Anticipation for Freakier Friday is definitely building, and I'm eager to see how it performs at the box office and with critics alike. While Lohan has been busy with titles like The Irish Wish, Falling for Christmas, and Our Little Secret, her co-star Jamie Lee Curtis has been on a serious role. She won an Oscar for Everything Everywhere All At Once, as well as an Emmy for her role in The Bear. There's a ton of investment in both actress' careers, so pairing them seems like Hollywood alchemy.

Freakier Friday will hit theaters on August 8th as part of the 2025 movie release list. For now, we can re-watch the original on Disney+... again.

Now, thanks to Freakier Friday being among upcoming 2025 movies, so will her son, Luai. Lohan became a first-time parent in 2023 with her husband Bader Shammas, and she already has a great idea about which one of her movies she wants to show her son first. Though, I’ll admit, it wasn’t what I expected her to say.

Lohan’s son is about to turn two years old, so as you can imagine, he’s not exactly a cinephile yet. While talking to Parents, she explained that he currently “doesn’t have the bandwidth” to sit and watch movies aside from “Moana or parts of Dinosaur.” But she did share that she’s excited to share her movies with Luai when he is old enough. And her pick? Herbie: Fully Loaded. As she explained,

Remember when Lindsay Lohan was in a reboot of the Herbie movies? Back in 2005, when Lohan was at the height of her fame following the release of Mean Girls, the 19-year-old led Herbie Fully Loaded, which was basically a Disney-ifed F1 of the summer twenty years ago. Funny enough, it sounds like Lohan named the movie in hopes a car racing movie might make her seem “cool” to her son. She also said this about making a good number of family friendly movies over the years:

Lohan’s comments go to show, you can be a big Hollywood star and still have to work to appear “cool” to your kids. While I wouldn’t have thought of Herbie: Fully Loaded off the top of my head, I totally think this is the right answer, actually.

It Wasn't My First Guess, But I Think It's A Great Pick

So, I was definitely expecting Lindsay Lohan to say The Parent Trap, because it was her first movie, and she played twins, which is super impressive. And how fun would it be to see one of your parents acting while they are a kid if they were your parents? I would definitely get a kick out of it.

But, I’ll be honest, I kind of forgot about Herbie: Fully Loaded, and a lot of us in general don’t talk about that movie. I do distinctly remember seeing it when I was growing up, though, and I found it to be so much fun – not only for myself but my whole family. And must I remind you Michael Keaton plays her dad, along with Justin Long, Matt Dillion and Breckin Meyer being in the movie, too?

It’s about a magical VW bug, and what kid doesn’t want to see their mom race in a magical VW bug? Anyways, her answer is a solid one. I hope she reports back when the day comes. It's also a reminder for me to revisit the sweet and wholesome Disney comedy as we wait for the Freakier Friday release date on August 8.

When it comes to 2025 movies on the way this summer, I’ve been unabashedly excited for the release of Freakier Friday, all while being simultaneously suspicious it could disappoint me. I know I’m going to see it no matter what, but I’ve also been preparing to be underwhelmed, especially after learning that this time around Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis’s characters would be body swapping with two teens rather than with each other.

However, the new trailer has melted away my past worries.

The New Freakier Friday Trailer Finally Really Sold Me On The Sequel

Disney dropped a new trailer (which you can watch above) Friday morning, and it really got me pumped for Freakier Friday. While the first Freaky Friday 2 trailer had me wondering why Jamie Lee Curtis looks so much like Laurie Strode from the Halloween movies rather than donning her character’s pixie haircut and mourning the duo no longer getting to play each other, this new look at the movie has me feeling differently.

I like that this trailer finally makes the plotline a lot clearer. Lindsay Lohan’s Anne is about to get married to Manny Jacinto’s character and merge their families. Lohan has a teen daughter of her own, Harper (Julia Butters), and Jacinto’s character has a teen daughter named Lily (Sophia Hammons), but they do not get along.

So when a fortune teller puts a new body swap spell on them, the teens get placed into the bodies of Harper’s mom and grandmother, who want to use the opportunity to break up their parents.

While the first trailer made me feel like the body swap thing was more gimmicky than serving a story, this trailer placed some stakes alongside the concept that I can definitely get behind.

I’m All In On Lindsay Lohan And Jamie Lee Curtis’s Freakier Friday Antics

The standout scene for me is when we finally learn how Chad Michael Murray’s Jake gets involved in the story. The teens decide the way they are going to break up their parents is to reunite Anne with her first love. I was loving the moment where Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis are trying to impress Jake, who looks like he works at a record store, but he thinks she’s having a “stroke.”

Then when they tried to regroup, I thought it was hilarious that Lohan’s character was worried they were gone for too long; he'd think she was pooping.

Oh, and then the part when the pair are talking up a teenager calling him “cute” before an older man realizes he recognizes Tess as his therapist? It's a great callback to the original.

The new trailer (also on YouTube) has me recognizing all the details and care being put into this sequel. Did you notice Curtis covering her face with a Britney Spears vinyl? It's a perfect easter egg for that scene when Jake sang "Hit Me Baby (One More Time)" in the original.

It’s these kinds of teenage antics that feel nostalgic and show why I love the original, and have me ready for all the fun ahead when the film comes out on August 8.

The Parent Trap is one of my all-time favorite movies, and it’s one of the best family movies of the ‘90s for good reason. This 1998 Disney remake of the 1961 classic featured an A+ cast, and it launched Lindsay Lohan’s career. It’s the Mean Girls actress’s heartwarming and comedic performances that make this movie so good, and it was an early sign of her incredible acting talent. At the time, the Falling For Christmas star was only 12, and she recently revealed that her young age played a huge role in her ability to play twins.

Lohan played both Hallie and Annie Parker, twins separated at birth who later reunite at summer camp and set up a plan to get their parents back together. It sounds a little crazy when you say it out loud, but it’s actually such a sweet family rom-com. While doing press for the upcoming Freakier Friday, which is set to release in August on the 2025 movie schedule, Lohan was asked by Elle about playing twins, and revealed why it was surprisingly so easy for her:

She makes a good point. Kids are a lot more fearless than adults, willing to try new things, and that goes for things beyond acting as well. The world hasn’t necessarily forced upon kids as many social norms or expectations. Besides, when you think about it, playing both twins means you are acting with yourself, so there are less unknown factors. It was apparently easy back then, according to an old interview with a very put-together 12-year-old Lohan, and it seems nothing has changed!

However, let’s give credit where credit is due. The Irish Wish actress admitted that oftentimes, she was acting opposite a tennis ball, so she would know where to look in scenes where she was supposed to be talking to her twin (self). Selling emotion without a scene partner to act off of is no easy task.

Not to mention, she was switching between a British and American accent flawlessly the whole movie. Even so, according to Lohan, playing twins was still easier than playing Jamie Lee Curtis in both Freaky Friday and the upcoming sequel.

All I’m saying is if Freaky Friday can get a sequel greenlit over two decades later, then why can’t The Parent Trap? After Elaine Hendrix’s (Meredith Blake) sneaky cameo in the Freakier Friday trailer, and her mini reunion with Lisa Ann Walter (Chessy) a couple of years ago, I’m gonna need a Parent Trap sequel pitch ASAP.

I’m thinking maybe Annie and Hallie become estranged for many years, and perhaps their kids decide to take a page out of their moms’ playbook and trick them into reuniting. Lohan is now a mother herself, which she said made it so much easier to play a mom in Freaky Friday 2 than it did in the original 22 years ago. With that experience now, I have no doubt she would be able to play the Parent Trap twins as moms, just as flawlessly as she played them as kids.

Hopefully, the Lohanaissance makes it to a Parent Trap sequel. Regardless, the 1998 version will always hold a special place in my heart.

When Lindsay Lohan made her comeback as a leading lady in 2022, she reasserted herself as a rom-com queen as well. After taking a break for a few years from on-screen work, she returned with Falling for Christmas, and since then, she has led two more rom-coms for Netflix. Now, her next project will mark a turn for her, as she realized that her new series, Count My Lies, will be one of the “first” times she doesn’t kiss her love interest at the end of the story.

Thinking back on all of Lohan’s most iconic movies, some of which are the best films of the 2000s, they basically all include idealistic love stories and swoon-worthy love interests. Mean Girls has Aaron Samuels. Freaky Friday has Chad Michael Murray’s Jake, and he’s returning for Freakier Friday, too. Just My Luck featured Chris Pine in his earlier acting days. And the list goes on. To that point, when Elle asked Lohan why she was excited to take on a dramatic TV series as he next project, she said:

I totally get where Lohan is coming from. While I am a champion for the best rom-coms and Lohan’s place among the stars of this genre, you also don’t need romance in every project for it to be good.

Not to mention, especially since Lohan’s last three movies (all of which you can stream with a Netflix subscription) were rom-coms, I agree that it will be “refreshing” to see her in something totally different.

For some context, Count My Lies, the new show Lohan was discussing, is in development at Hulu. It will be a book-to-screen adaptation of Sophie Stava’s novel of the same name, and the actress will play Violet Lockhart, a wealthy person who hires a woman named Sloane to be her child’s nanny. However, Sloane is a liar; she fibbed her way into this job. But Violet and her husband Jay have their own secrets, too.

What follows, as the synopsis says, is a “breakneck, unputdownable thriller about the secrets we keep, and the terrifying dangers that lurk just under the images we spend so much time trying to maintain.”

So, no, I don’t think this show is going to end with a sweet kiss and a happily ever after.

Overall, this project seems wild, and I can’t wait to watch it. The premise alone has me hooked. However, the fact that it will also mark Lohan’s first leading role in a TV series, alongside the notion that it won’t be a rom-com that ends with a kiss, has me even more sat.

Noting that she does “love the book” and she’s looking forward to doing “something different,” it’s clear Lohan is excited about what’s to come as well. So, as we learn more about Count My Lies and how it differs from the other films we know and love from the actress, we’ll keep you posted.

Now that we are well into the 2025 movie schedule, and getting closer to the release of Freakier Friday (which brings her together with Freaky Friday co-star Jamie Lee Curtis again), she’s been talking about coming back to the profession that made her famous while promoting the upcoming film. Now, Lohan’s opening up about beauty standards in Hollywood.

What Did Lindsay Lohan Say About Hollywood Beauty Standards?

Even though Lindsay Lohan has already admitted to being a bit “jealous” of the young stars who are coming up today, the former child star would likely confirm that one thing hasn’t changed much, and that’s the Hollywood beauty standard. People (and women in particular) in the entertainment industry are pretty much still expected to look as young, thin, and fashionable as possible when not in character, a fact that has led to much negative commentary about how stars like Selena Gomez, Kelly Clarkson, and many others look.

In speaking with Saturday Night Live star Chloe Fineman (who has a role in Freakier Friday) for Elle Magazine, the topic turned to beauty standards when the Just My Luck leading lady noted that she’s currently working on a line of beauty products (much like the aforementioned Gomez, whose Rare Beauty has made her a billionaire). That admission led to this quick exchange:

• Lohan: Everyone does Botox.
• Fineman: Last night at dinner, I was with somebody, and they’re like, ‘I’ve never had it.’And I was like, ‘What? Are you kidding?’
• Lohan: Who are you? It’s like, ‘You lie.’

I know a lot of people, even those who don’t face near constant public scrutiny about their appearance, have had Botox. Many of us simply do not want to be wrinkled or to appear to have physically aged at all, despite the fact that everyone will do just that at some point. However, it hadn’t really occurred to me that it would be so hard to buck the Botox trend in Hollywood that it’s seemingly impossible to come upon someone in the industry who hasn’t experimented with using the substance to erase as many wrinkles as possible at least once.

Stars have begun to speak out about unrealistic beauty standards, and Lohan’s co-star, Oscar winner Jamie Lee Curtis has been among them. In 2023, after singer Karol G came out against her heavily retouched GQ cover, Curtis spoke up about how things like that hurt all women and contribute to us feeling ashamed of ourselves. Other stars have done similar things in recent years, like Florence Pugh discussing how harshly women’s bodies are judged, Halle Berry talking about “challenging” stereotypes of older women, and Demi Moore revealing the “tremendous gift” of aging.

Speaking of that beauty line that Lohan is developing, Fineman did ask for more info on how she takes care of her own health and beauty when the Mean Girls star admitted to being “crazy about my skin and health.” Lohan added:

Honestly, all of that sounds fine to me except the lasers. They’ve been used to clear up a number of skin concerns, like acne and, yes, even wrinkles, but I’ll just have to turn into an old bog witch eventually if that’s the best way to stop one from looking old. And, you know what? I’m totally fine with that. It’ll probably finally keep the neighborhood kids out of my yard once they get a look at me.

Ah, romance: that same old story about a fight for love and glory. Ok, so maybe it’s more of the first part of that equation, which is exactly the sort of tale we’d be expecting from the 2025 movie Freakier Friday. Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan’s classically mis-matched family is surely going to include some sort of sparks flying in this summer’s long-awaited Disney legacy-quel. But what’s even more adorable is the fact that the Netflix queen of that genre met husband Bader Shammas through a method that’s practically ripped off the screen.

As Ms. Curtis was on hand for Prime Video’s upfront presentation, she spoke with Us Magazine about her Freaky Friday co-star and that big love connection. Try reading this story about Ms. Lohan’s real life meet-cute and not seeing it through the lens of a romance flick:

You have to admit, Dubai is a hell of a location to meet the love of your life. Seeing as Freakier Friday’s CinemaCon reactions have early audience members giving their vote of approval, we’ll get to see what all the fuss is about for ourselves on August 1st. While we don’t know how Manny Jacinto’s new sequel character will factor into things, here’s hoping that whatever love connection presents itself will be in the name of a heartwarming ending we can all enjoy.

2003’s Freaky Friday is beloved by fans, so much so that its popularity resulted in a new sequel, Freakier Friday, giving the 2025 movie schedule a dose of body-swapping comedy. However, while the original movie may be well-remembered, that doesn't mean it’s perfect, and some parts of the film have arguably not aged all that well, which was a major concern for co-star Manny Jacinto.

Those who have seen the 2003 film will remember that the magic spell that causes stars Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan to switch bodies involves magic fortune cookies at a Chinese restaurant. Not exactly the most enlightened take on Asian representation. Manny Jacinto admitted to EW that it gave him pause before he agreed to join the sequel, explaining:

Manny Jacinto joined Freakier Friday's cast as Eric, the fiancé of Lindsay Lohan’s Anna. Following on his high-profile roles in The Good Place and The Acolyte, Jacinto has built a solid fan base that is going to be interested in whatever projects he gets involved in. That likely makes it all the more important for him to choose the right movies.

However, while Freaky Friday may have some problems when it comes to Asian representation, Jacinto says that Freakier Friday’s director, Nisha Gantra, put him at ease, as he was confident that she would make sure representation was handled properly. As a matter of fact, Gantra says that “problematic Asian representation” was something she specifically brought up when she first met with producers about directing the film. She said:

By all accounts, Freakier Friday appears to have greatly improved on the representation. Not only is the core cast of the film significantly more diverse, including Jacinto, but the new movie will also apparently include a return by Lucile Soong and Rosalind Chao, who played the mother-daughter pair from the Chinese restaurant in the 2003 film, in a scene that will poke a bit of fun at the previous film and attempt to try and “make it right.”

If there’s value in the constant remakes, reboots, and legacy sequels that we get with movies these days, it’s the opportunity to try and improve on the previous entry. Freakier Friday is certainly trying to do that.

With Freakier Friday’s August premiere getting closer every day, Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis are a big part of the 2025 movie schedule's summer fun. The flick obviously owes much of its buzz to Lohan and Curtis' earlier wacky body swap movie. with Freaky Friday bringing Lohan’s career to new heights while also introduced her elder Hollywood vet to a whole new generation of young fans. Now that the stars are talking more about that world, Curtis shared why she almost turned down the role of Tess Coleman back in the early aughts.

Ahead of the full-on incoming Freakier Friday pre-release hype, JLC chatted with EW about how she almost wasn’t in the iconic Disney title. She revealed multiple factors played into her decision, involving her family, the pre-produdction timeline — Annette Bening had dropped out not long before filming — and the location all working in tandem to convince her to sign on. The iconic scream queen highlighted the importance of motherhood on and off the screen, saying:

It’s wild to think of streaming the Disney+ subscription original sans the Everything Everywhere All At Once alum. It’s by far one of Curtis’ best movies, at least for this millenial, and Freaky Friday would’ve been drastically different with anyone else in the role.

Still, the reason why she almost didn’t hop on Jake’s (Chad Michael Murray) bike is more than understandable and commendable. Balancing work and motherhood with young kids is a reality that gets misconstrued all too often. I’m just glad, in this case, things worked out for the best for her and her family.

With her kids grown, the two-decades-later sequel returned to L.A. to film and seems as family-oriented, fun-loving and silly as evidenced by the quotable new FF trailer. But, it’s not the only Curtis film we’ll be treated to this year!

She already appeared in the so-so Star Trek: Section 31, and we can expect her in James L. Brooks’ comedy/drama, Ella McCay in September. You can get ready for the August and September titles by streaming the Michelle Yeoh-led film with a Paramount+ subscription.

Needless to say, Curtis has continued to strike a balance that works for her personal and professional life, regardless of the stage of motherhood she’s in. Thankfully, though, we don’t have to live without her in Freaky Friday or Freakier Friday.

Sequels are generally produced with immediacy in order to take advantage of an original's popularity, but there are distinct advantages in waiting for time to pass. With an extended gap between chapters in a film franchise, there is not only the chance offered for audiences to miss the characters and pine for a reunion, but there is chance for said characters to take on new perspectives. The upcoming Freakier Friday is a perfect example of this, set to arrive more than two decades after its predecessor, and the passing time has allowed star Lindsay Lohan to gain a new point of view: motherhood.

Entertainment Weekly recently spoke with Lindsay Lohan and Oscar-winning co-star Jamie Lee Curtis about their work reuniting for the upcoming Disney movie, and one major thing that has changed for the former in the years since the 2003 release of Freaky Friday is that she has become a mom (she gave birth to a son with her husband Bader Shammas in 2023). In Freakier Friday, Anna is a parent to a daughter named Harper (Julia Butters), and Lohan used her emotional experience over the last couple years to inform her performance:

Set with a summer release date on the 2025 movie schedule, Freakier Friday will see the Coleman family getting closer than most. Anna (Lohan) ends up in Harper's body, and Harper ends up in Anna's body. Concurrently, Anna's soon-to-be stepdaughter Lily (Sophia Hammons) ends up doing a swap with Tess (Jamie Lee Curtis), her soon-to-be grandmother.

Lindsay Lohan says that motherhood gave her the ability to attain a certain emotion to which she didn't previously have access: that intense mom calm. She added,

It should make for a very different story than audiences got to see the first time around – and it will be interesting to see the generational reaction to it. There are millennials who grew up loving 2003's Freaky Friday who, like Lindsay Lohan, are parents now, and Freakier Friday will be a movie they can hopefully share with their Gen Z/Gen Alpha children.

Fans have been waiting for the sequel for more than 20 years, but the film went into production last year with a cast that includes Manny Jacinto, Mark Harmon, Stephen Tobolowsky, Vanessa Bayer and Chad Michael Murray (reprising his role as Jake from Freaky Friday), and Freakier Friday is now scheduled to arrive in theaters on August 8.

Lindsay Lohan has seen a bit of a resurgence in popularity over the past several years. When it comes to the film medium, she’s bounced back in a big way with Irish Wish and Our Little Secret (both of which are streamable with a Netflix subscription). On top of that, she’s co-headlining the upcoming Freakier Friday. While Lohan’s success in the film industry continues, it seems she’s also jumping into the realm of TV. She just landed her first small-screen drama, and I love the talent that’s involved behind the scenes.

The former child star is circling her first leading TV role ever, and it’s Hulu’s Count My Lies, which is based on the novel of the same name by Sophie Stava. According to Variety, the story centers around a young woman named Sloane Caraway – described as a compulsive lawyer – who cons her way into a nanny job with an affluent family – the Lockharts. It seems that Sloane bites off more than she can chew, though, as it turns out the brood has more than a few skeletons in the closet that are going to come to light.

At present, Lindsay Lohan is reportedly attached to play the lead role of the sly Violet Lockhart, and the star will also serve as an executive producer. The prospect of Lohan digging into some dramatic material is exciting on its own. However, what adds to that is the fact that the show is being penned by former This is Us writers/co-showrunners Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger. This TV drama, which has yet to officially be greenlit, is also being developed by Berger and Aptaker’s The Walk-Up Company production banner.

This is Us (which is streamable in its entirety with a Hulu subscription) is arguably one of the most popular shows to have debuted on network TV within the last decade. Created by Dan Fogler, the series centers around members of the Pearson family and those in their orbit. During its six-season run on NBC, the show was lauded for its layered storytelling as well as its compelling performances. Elizabeth Berger and Isaac Aptaker were able to steer the ship effectively and, given their work on the Emmy-winning show, I’m confident that they could bring those same sensibilities to Count My Lies.

It’s interesting to think that Lindsay Lohan doesn’t really have any straightforward dramatic credits on her resume. What I’m hoping is that she’ll be able to bring the necessary gravitas that’ll apparently be required for the role of Violet. She’s arguably in good hands, considering the former TiU executive producers are in the mix. With any luck, they can provide material that’s not only attuned to Lohan’s skills but can also challenge her as a performer.

During these past few years, it’s been interesting to watch the “Lohanaissance” dominate conversations in some circles. Lohan has truly begun a new chapter in her professional life, and she doesn’t seem to be letting up. People in her orbit seem happy for her as well, including Freakier Friday co-star Manny Jacinto, who’s excited to be a part of his co-star’s recent wave of projects. Speaking of which, the aforementioned Disney legacy sequel was recently screened, and Lohan was “overwhelmed” by the positive responses.

We’ll have to wait and see if Count My Lies ends up moving forward at Hulu and, if it does, I could see it becoming a highly anticipated title due to its lead actress. Let’s hope Lindsay Lohan’s collaboration with Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger proves to be fruitful. In the meantime, look over the 2025 TV schedule to see what’s headed to a network or streamer soon.

The long-awaited and much-anticipated Freakier Friday is finally hitting the 2025 movie release schedule on August 8th. Despite that still being months away we have seen a trailer for the Freaky Friday sequel, so myself and other fans knew a bit about the movie going in. But seeing some footage isn’t necessarily the same thing as hearing audience reactions.

In fact, Linday Lohan appeared with Jamie Lee Curtis onstage during the Disney Panel at CinemaCon 2025 (which CinemaBlend live-blogged, and also included content from Thunderbolts*, Avatar: Fire and Ash, the new Predator movie and so much more). They came onstage to Chappell Roan’s “Hot To Go," which featured prominently in the first footage from the movie, but I was most stoked when Lohan admitted some people have seen the movie already!

The actress said she was “overwhelmed” by the audience reaction, which ties in with a comment a Disney head honcho said earlier during this panel. He noted the studio was happy with “the response” the sequel to the 2003 film has gotten, as well. Per Lohan:

It makes total sense to me. Freaky Friday came out shortly before Mean Girls. It’s a fun movie you can watch with your friends or your mom, and the fans who were teens when it came out frequently have kids of their own now. There’s a lot of audience love for just the footage we’ve seen so far, and our own Corey Chichizola has already declared Jamie Lee Curtis is already quotable again this time around – after her “crypt keeper” line went viral in the first film.

It’s been clear for months there’s an appetite for this film, and while an early audience may be somewhat of a biased audience, I am rooting for this one to land.

And per Curtis, she’s hopeful it will land with a theatrical audience, a comment that’s been uttered over and over again during Paramount’s panel, Universal’s panel, Sony’s panel, Lionsgate’s panel, Warner Bros.’ panel and even newcomer Amazon’s panel. There does seem to be a real push to put content that people are going to want to see into theaters, and Curtis says this is one that should be viewed on the big screen, though time will tell.

Wait we must, though I'm still bullish after Lohan shared the early reactions to the film. While Thunderbolts* and a few other Disney properties are making their way into the theatrical pipeline in the coming months, Freakier Friday won’t be released until August 8th. But there’s a lot this year to get excited for – like Lilo & Stitch live-action, so stay tuned.

I love the original Freaky Friday. It’s one of those movies that came out at the exact right moment in my childhood for it to become a favorite that I’d just watch over and over with my sister and family. So, I’ve been absolutely hyped for the Freakier Friday release date to arrive since it was announced they were filming last summer. But now that the first Freakier Friday trailer is here, I have to share one gripe that totally took me out of the whole first look.

Why Is Jamie Lee Curtis Just Wearing Her Wig From The Halloween Movies?

In the trailer, Jamie Lee Curtis looks like she’s wearing the same gray-haired wig from the Halloween trilogy she starred in between 2018 and 2022. In the first scene shown from Freakier Friday, she’s even wearing a blue collared shirt like Laurie Strode would in those horror movies.

Even though a first look at her Freakier Friday hair came out in October, it still caught me off guard because Laurie Strode is such an iconic Curtis role, and doesn’t look anything like her Freaky Friday role. I felt like Michael Myers was about to strike the whole trailer even as Chappell Roan’s “HOT TO GO” played in the background, and tons of funny jokes were delivered. Check it out:

See what I mean? I know it’s perhaps a small detail, but I would have thought Jamie Lee Curtis and the team around her would think that her real-life pixie cut that she typically rocks would be way more on brand for her character than this long-haired look. I mean, it’s even the same hair cut.

My Annoyance Aside, The Freakier Friday Plotline Actually Sounds Pretty Fun

If I understand correctly from the trailer, this time around the main characters Tess and Anna swap bodies with Anna’s daughter and her soon-to-be-step-daughter. So Curtis and Lohan will virtually be playing 18-year-olds and soon-to-be sisters in the movie. Now that it’s been revealed, I think it will be fun to see the two actors interact more this time around rather than be in opposite plotlines, and get to play teenagers who are trying to act adult and live the lives of their mother and grandmother.

Curtis already seems to be having an absolute blast in this like she did in the first movie, and now rather than Lohan playing the proper one, she’ll get to go a little wild, too. Just the fact that this sequel is happening, and a ton of OGs are part of the cast too, like Chad Michael Murray, is going to bring me a lot of joy. Plus, it feels really rare for a mid-budget comedy like this to go to theaters rather than Disney+.

As millennials get older, it's sometimes mind-boggling to think about how old our favorite movies from childhood actually are. Case in point: Freaky Friday (which is streaming with a Disney+ subscription), which hit theaters over two decades ago in 2003. It's finally getting a sequel, with Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan back to reprise their roles as Tess and Anna. And the first trailer for Freakier Friday already gave some killer lines to Oscar-winning actress JLC.

What we know about Freakier Friday has been pretty limited so far, although it certainly seemed like the pair of leading ladies were happy to be back together. Their chemistry is heart warming in the above trailer, and for the second time around they both get to act like kids. We all can't forget Curtis famously saying "I look like the crypt keeper" in the original film, and this time when the body swap happens she hilariously utters

This trailer opens on Curtis and Lohan in a scene with SNL alum Vanessa Bayer, who appears to be a psychic. She clocks that they changed places back in the day, and suggests it might need to happen again. They protest, and once again feel the familiar rumblings of something supernatural.

Another body swap does happen, but this time involving Anna's daughter and her boyfriend's daughter. Both Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis get to act like young kids, and this teaser for Freakier Friday is no doubt just the tip of the iceberg for this comedic duo.

The first Freakier Friday sneak peek with Lohan and Curtain came in October, and anticipation for the upcoming Disney movie has been steadily building since. The project will contribute to the current Lohanassaince, and marks the actress' return to the big screen after a number of movies made available for those with a Netflix subscription.

Given how much love are coming at both Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis currently, the timing for this long-awaited sequel feels killer. And if this brief trailer is to be believed, it looks like director Nisha Ganatra was able to capture the same fun tone as the original movie. This time there are three different generations factoring into the comedy, which will bring something new to the burgeoning franchise. Chad Michael Murray is also featured in the final moments, as he's also reprise his role.

It doesn't hurt that the teaser is set to tune of Chappell Roan's "Hot to Go!", which has been wildly popular since last year. It looks like Lindsay Lohan's Anna is going to once again take to the stage as a rock star, so maybe she'll get to belt out some Chappell in the process.

Freakier Friday is expected to hit theaters August 8th as part of the 2025 movie release list. We'll just have to wait and see see what other easer eggs and connections to the original are included in the final film.

I’ve been an avid Christmas movie viewer since about 2016, the first year I tuned in for an upcoming Hallmark movie. The viewership amped up considerably during the pandemic and when I was helping caretake my mother when she fought cancer, and as the cabler upped up its number of movies hitting the Christmas schedule each year, I upped my viewership too. But I have to say, it felt like there was a little magic missing in 2024 and I’d like to see that change in 2025. Here’s what I’d like to see in the coming year.

More High Tier Scripts Are Needed

Hallmark content is typically split, at least in my mind, into two different tiers. The more known faces tend to get higher quality co-stars, better written conceits and scripts and the lower tier goes to lesser known individuals on the brand to fill the network’s mad Countdown to Christmas quota. It’s fine in my mind if the network wants to invest fewer resources into that lower tier content, but in my mind there were way fewer winners this past year in that higher tier. I did like Lacey Chabert and Krisoffer Polaha’s The Christmas Quest. Of course, there were a few other bright spots on the schedule, but even the high tier stuff felt a little stilted to me compared to other years.

I actually thought Hallmark’s most high-profile movie of the season Holiday Touchdown: A Chief’s Love Story had a really silly script and also had some really bad fake snow CGI’d in, despite its charming cast including Momma Donna Kelce. And a lot of the “types” of movies Hallmark tends to like to repeat – a time travel concept, a Christmas comedy etc – just had less exciting premises than normal.

For example, the most high-profile “comedy” movie the network put out this year was (probably) Three Wiser Men and a Boy. I’m not going to say I hated this movie, because I absolutely didn’t, but when you stack the sequel up against its predecessor Three Wise Men and a Baby or other delightful comedies like Haul Out The Holly, other years just produced a better lineup for the network.

Another example? Time travel is often a topic that crops up in Hallmark Christmas films and in 2023 we got A Biltmore Christmas starring Kristoffer Polaha and Bethany Joy Lenz, which might be the best time travel movie the network has ever put together. Though I also think the underrated Love Strikes Twice, the accurately rated A Timeless Christmas and the delightfully cast Next Stop, Christmas should also be in that mix. In 2024, however, we got That ‘90s Christmas, a premise that should have been great but fell a little flat and I think it had a lot to do with the writing.

I don’t know if the network was trying to cut budget with Hallmark+ getting off the ground, there were BTS decisions being made that weren’t the best fit (Lisa Hamilton Daly did recently exit), or if it was simply chance that I found many of the projects less engaging in 2024, but whatever the case, I’d like to see a big change next year. I’d like more quality than quantity, and I’m OK if that means fewer movies.

But why should Hallmark care?

Competition Is Increasing At Netflix And Other Outlets

This holiday season, for the first time in maybe recent memory, my favorite holiday movie was on Netflix and not Hallmark. I actually really enjoyed Our Little Secret’s straight comedy bent over much of the stuff we got at Hallmark, and I particularly enjoyed the zany antics going on between Lindsay Lohan’s Avery and Kristin Chenoweth’s Erica.

I know not everyone loved the new Lindsay Lohan vehicle, but even if you didn’t, Netflix has ramped up its Christmas lineup considerably, as have other streaming services and GAF, which now houses names like Candace Cameron Bure, Danica McKellar and more. Right now, I still think Hallmark has the edge when it comes to its programming, but it’s a razor thin line where it used to be a chasm, and some of its stars are doing great work elsewhere, as well. (See: Netflix's Hot Frosty with Lacey Chabert as an example.)

As much as many of us love the holiday season, at some point I do think the competition will get fierce and the bubble will burst a bit. As an OG Hallmark fan, I’d like to see the channel remain the premiere place for holiday movies, but if last year’s lineup was any indication, other outlets are edging in.

To note, the cast wants Holiday Touchdown 2 after the movie became the No. 1 release of the season, and to be honest, I love the idea of re-teaming frequent male lead Tyler Hynes with the ever-delightful Hunter King. I just want a great script this time that’s less reliant on Chiefs cameos and gimmicks like Catrick Mahomes. That’s all I’m saying. The countdown to Christmas is already on, so let’s make some 2025 Christmas movies among the best of all time.

Lindsay Lohan has starred in one of the best high school movies of all time in Mean Girls and, over the past couple of years, become one of the most beloved rom-com actors on the Netflix schedule, but it all started with The Parent Trap back in 1998. Over two decades later, Lohan still has a lot of love for that movie and the filmmakers who helped to launch her career, and following writer Charles Shyer’s death, she paid tribute to her “dear friend.”

Charles Shyer co-wrote the screenplay for The Parent Trap — considered among the best family movies of the ‘90s — with David Swift and his then-wife Nancy Meyers, who was making her directorial debut. Shyer passed away on December 27, 2024, at the age of 83 after a brief illness, per THR, and Lindsay Lohan shared a behind-the-scenes photo of the two of them to her Instagram Stories in his memory.

The Parent Trap, which was a remake of the 1961 classic starring Hayley Mills, was not only Nancy Meyers’ first go at directing, it was also the film debut of a 12-year-old Lindsay Lohan, who portrayed both of the troublesome twins Hallie Parker and Annie James.

Despite the fact that the plot sounds absolutely ridiculous if you say it out loud, it has become a much-beloved film over the past quarter-century, and Lindsay Lohan's performance — including the ability to bounce back and forth between a British and American accent — launched her to stardom.

Nancy Meyers also paid tribute to her ex-husband — with whom she shared four children, including daughters named Annie and Hallie — on Instagram with two throwback images of her own. Lindsay Lohan commented a single heart on the post, and fellow The Parent Trap star Lisa Ann Walter, who played the beloved Chessy, added her own condolences, commenting:

Charles Shyer started out writing for TV on shows including The Odd Couple and The Partridge Family. He broke into the movie business in 1977 with Smokey and the Bandit and was nominated for an Academy Award for his writing on the 1980 movie Private Benjamin.

Other notable collaborations between him and Nancy Meyers include Steve Martin’s Father of the Bride and its sequel, as well as 1994’s I Love Trouble, starring Julia Roberts and Nick Nolte.

His final projects had him — like Lindsay Lohan — joining the Netflix Christmas movie family, as he wrote and directed 2022’s The Noel Diary and co-wrote and produced Best. Christmas. Ever! in 2023.

The Netflix movie schedule featured quite a treat for Mean Girls fans this holiday season. Not only did Lacey Chabert make a rare detour away from her Hallmark movie offerings, but we also saw Cady Heron herself, Lindsay Lohan, return to the streamer with what some are calling Netflix’s best 2024 Christmas movie, Our Little Secret. This year was already giving Plastics vibes, but after hearing what their former co-star Jonathan Bennett had to say, I’m convinced that someone needs to start working on a Mean Girls holiday movie reunion.

Jonathan Bennett, one of the stars of Hallmark+’s new The Groomsmen trilogy, in which he helps to break down LGBTQ+ stereotypes through his character Danny, has become a fixture on the family-friendly network’s TV rom-coms, along with the queen of Christmas herself, Lacey Chabert. Lindsay Lohan, meanwhile, has been having her Lohanaissance over on Netflix. Bennett told People he doesn’t think it’s a coincidence that there’s so much overlap between Mean Girls fans and those who will be seeking out the holiday flicks on the 2025 movie schedule. He said:

Jonathan Bennett may not decorate his house for Christmas due to spending large parts of the year “covered in tinsel,” but his heart is definitely in the right place when it comes to wanting to bring joy to his fans. The only thing left to do is reunite him on screen with Lacey Chabert, who he’s crossed paths as Hallmark pals, and Lindsay Lohan. Bennett continued:

You heard the man, let’s freaking go! The actor who played Cady’s crush Aaron Samuels in the 2004 teen classic has talked several times about this happening, naming Lacey Chabert as the Hallmark actor he’d love to team up with and saying he would love to have a Hallmark Mean Girls reunion.

I can’t imagine that Lindsay Lohan and Gretchen Wieners, I mean Lacey Chabert, wouldn’t be on board. The actresses reunited for a photo op that was “so fetch” at one of Netflix’s media days this year, and both of their movies — Lohan’s Our Little Secret and Chabert’s Hot Frosty — contain subtle Mean Girls references.

This trio of actors, in fact, has been dropping easter eggs into their movies for years. In 2022, Jonathan Bennett included a Mean Girls quote in The Holiday Sitter on Hallmark just weeks after Lindsay Lohan made a brilliant reference in Netflix’s Falling for Christmas.

So this project has to happen. At this point, my only question regarding a Mean Girls holiday movie is will it be on Hallmark, or will we need a Netflix subscription?

To be honest with you, I didn’t have super high expectations for Lindsay Lohan’s streaming newcomer in December, Our Little Secret, which hit the Netflix schedule earlier this month. I’d seen her two previous Netflix ventures, Falling For Christmas and Irish Wish, the former which was too silly for me and the latter which I thought was a hard OK. But Netflix users love a good rom-com, and of course another one came down the pipeline. I stand here corrected, too, as I really enjoyed Our Little Secret, and thought one moment early in the film was hyper effective.

Here’s the gist, Our Little Secret revolves around Avery (Lindsay Lohan) and Logan (Ian Harding), a former couple who end up staying at the (same) family home of their respective others’ over the holidays. When the movie’s main crux kicks off, Avery is dating Cameron (Jon Rudnitsky) and has not gelled well with his mom Erica (Kristin Chenoweth). Meanwhile, Logan is dating Cassie and gets along great with Erica. The two make a pact to help endear Avery to Erica without revealing their former relationship, but things start going haywire almost immediately.

The movie is cute as a whole (though Our Little Secret's critics might disagree with me) and to me was much better than the two other Lindsay Lohan Netflix projects marking the Lohannaissance. In fact, CinemaBlend's own Danielle Bruncati seems to agree with me. But what I'd really like to talk about is how the movie's most perfect moment comes right after the flick's opening scene.

Why The Opening Credits Are The Perfect Way To Kick Off Our Little Secret

Our Little Secret opens with the downfall of Logan and Avery’s relationship just as she’s prepping to leave her hometown to move to London, and effectively breaking the two up. (Prepare for some cringe.) This happens 10 years before the start of the events set during the present day in the streaming movie, and the way the film marks this is by using an opening credits montage looking back at the last decade. While most movies would probably show what Avery and Logan have been up to in the last 10 years, Out Little Secret actually marks the passage of time with a nostalgic look back at some of the major events of the last decade.

Not only are the opening credits very effective, it honestly made me more than a little emotional. For me, someone who is roughly the same age as Lindsay Lohan and grew up at the same time, the last 10 years have felt very short and very long at the same time. The transition from being in your twenties to your thirties is a swift one for any generation, but events like Covid, election cycles and more have slowed down time more than I expected, and made me feel like time has been a blur simultaneously.

I wasn’t expecting to get rocked to the core by the opening credits of a Lohanaissance movie, but seeing the past decade just play out in a rush before my eyes reminds me of what I've lost and gained as I've eked my way in my thirties. By the time the rom-com kicked off in the present day, I honestly felt so tied to Avery and Logan given their ages and our shared experiences.

It was really effective, so kudos to whomever came up with that montage to show how time had passed and how Avery and Logan had grown up and moved forward with their lives.

The rest of Our Little Secret is part shenanigans and part people figuring out they are maybe not with the right partners. If that’s your cup of tea, you’ll probably enjoy the new Christmas movie. But I just want to iterate one more time: Don’t zone out during the opening credits. You’ll get a brisk rush of nostalgia and probably be reminded of a few things that used to feel so relevant that have fallen to the wayside over the years.

Netflix may not be able to beat Hallmark in terms of how many Christmas movies they produce a year, but the streaming service did pull out all the stops this year in getting some familiar faces to lead their handful of flicks. Hallmark’s Queen of Christmas, Lacey Chabert, made her streaming debut, Christina Milian returned, and even Chad Michael Murray graced fans with his face and shirtless body in The Merry Gentlemen. As a massive fan of Christmas movies, I tuned in to all of these, but it was Lindsay Lohan’s latest holiday film, Our Little Secret, that topped them all, earning the title of Netflix’s best holiday movie of 2024 — at least according to me.

A true second-chance romance film, Our Little Secret finds childhood best friends-turned-exes Avery (Lindsay Lohan) and Logan (Ian Harding) stuck celebrating Christmas together after discovering their significant others are siblings. The original plan to pretend they don’t know each other becomes complicated when Logan decides to help Avery win over the family’s stubborn matriarch, Erica (Kristin Chenoweth), in exchange for Avery’s help with a huge construction business proposal.

Now, I know you’re probably thinking that doesn’t sound very Christmas-y, but I promise you the film is full of holiday moments. I wouldn’t declare it Netflix’s best holiday movie of 2024 if it weren’t; after all, I hate when films don’t feel like Christmas movies.

Out of the four Netflix holiday movies released so far this year, Our Little Secret is the most Christmas-infused. Not only does the entire plot take place over the holiday, but it includes several holiday-themed activities, like Logan and Avery heading out to a Christmas tree farm to pick the family tree, a hilarious Church reading of the Christmas Story, and a disastrous Secret Santa gift exchange.

But it’s not just the film’s affinity for the holiday that makes it my favorite release this year. There's also the cast’s incredible performances and the emotional arc of the story. It’s no secret that Lohan is an incredible comedic actor, and her talents really shined in Our Little Secret. From the charade of lying about her relationship to convincing the local vet to lie about treating Erica’s dog after blaming it for eating all the cookies in the house, you’ll be laughing almost non-stop.

I say almost because, during the halfway point of the film, things take an emotional turn when Avery briefly leaves Erica’s house to retrieve keys to her childhood home for a realtor tasked with selling the place for her father over the holiday. Of course, Logan accompanies her, and while stepping into the empty living room of the place where his marriage proposal was rejected is a fraught memory for him, he still manages to support Avery as she breaks down over the loss of her mother a decade ago and how the wound feels fresh again now that her dad is selling the house.

I don’t usually cry while watching Christmas romance movies, but the tears were definitely falling. Thankfully, the emotional beat didn’t last long and I was quickly thrust back into the chaos when a series of lies everyone in the family had been keeping were exposed during the annual Secret Santa tradition.

Is the movie perfect? Of course not. I can admit that the inclusion of the weird oil painting family portraits was an interesting subplot that didn’t quite fit the tone of the movie. I also definitely wanted more one-on-one scenes with the powerful duo that is Lohan and Chenoweth. However, compared to Netflix's other three Christmas romance films released this year, Our Little Secret is the clear winner.

Critics may not have taken a liking to Lohan’s latest partnership with Netflix, but I certainly did. And as a self-proclaimed connoisseur of made-for-TV Christmas movies, I think my opinion holds more weight. When you take a look at Netflix’s 2024 release schedule, there’s no questioning that the streamer has range. That is proven in dividends by the fact that two of its biggest titles at the moment are the true crime docuseries: Cold Case: Who Killed JonBenét Ramsey and the Lindsay Lohan Christmas flick Our Little Secret. However, while both projects are thriving, there’s no question that the Lohanaissance has taken over Netflix in a big way as her movie is absolutely dominating the Top Ten right now.

Cold Case: Who Killed JonBenét Ramsey Is Doing Very Well On Netflix

When you look at what Netflix users are bingeing at the moment, Cold Case: Who Killed JonBenét Ramsey is dominant. The docuseries made its debut on the 2024 TV schedule on November 25, and in the span of 9 days, it’s gotten 40.3 million hours of viewing according to Netflix. That equates to 13.4 million views, which is pretty wild for one week.

In the streamer's TV Top Ten, the true crime series has been viewed 4.1 million times more than The Madness, which is the series sitting at No. 2.

This isn’t a big shock though. The case of JonBenét Ramsey has been a topic of interest for a very long time, and anytime a new series about it comes out interest spikes. In the case of this three-episode miniseries, it highlights “the flawed investigation and DNA evidence that could point police to her killer,” according to the show’s synopsis. So, it highlights some new elements of the infamous cold case.

So, considering all of that, I expected it to be among Netflix’s best crime shows. However, it should be noted that while this series is No. 1 in the world of TV, it’s not the overall top choice on Netflix. That title goes to Lindsay Lohan’s new holiday movie Our Little Secret.

However, Lindsay Lohan’s Our Little Secret Is Absolutely Dominating On The Streamer

Now, over in Netflix’s Top 10 Movies, there’s one flick that reigns supreme. Lindsay Lohan's film Our Little Secret was an anticipated project among 2024’s upcoming Christmas movies. However, I didn’t expect the number of viewers in the first week of its release to be so high, especially considering the not-so-great reviews Our Little Secret got. But I can admit when I'm wrong, and boy was I wrong here.

Marking her third project with Netflix – following 2022’s holiday film Falling for Christmas and 2024’s Irish Wish – Our Little Secret is a gargantuan hit. After premiering on November 27, people were swift to use their Netflix subscriptions to watch this movie about two exes who are forced to spend the holidays together. That was proven by the fact that in its first week alone, it amassed 32.4 million views, which equates to 54.6 million hours.

For some context about how wild this number is, the two other big Christmas movies in Netflix’s lineup are Lacey Chabert's Hot Frosty and Chad Michael Murray's The Merry Gentlemen. In Hot Forsty’s first week, it got 16 million news. Meanwhile, The Merry Gentleman roped in 14.7 million viewers during its premiere week. So, Our Little Secret more than doubled both those films.

Not to mention, it beat out Netflix’s top show, Who Killed JonBenét Ramsey, by about 19 million views too. So, if you didn’t realize this yet (which you should have) we are deep in the Lohanaissance now.

As we look ahead to the 2025 movie schedule, kids who grew up in the early 2000s are going to be circling a few days on the calendar, including the Freaky Friday 2 release date. Officially titled Freakier Friday, the sequel hitting theaters next summer will not only reunite Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan as the body-swapped mother-daughter duo, but the rest of the original cast, including Chad Michael Murray’s infectious Jake. So, as we wait, Lohan offered some thrilling words to tease the One Tree Hill actor's return.

As you may recall, Lindsay Lohan played a rebellious teenager named Anna who had a thing for Murray’s bad boy character Jake. However, when Anna and her mom went through a body swap spell at the hand of some Chinese restaurant magic, Jake fell for Anna in the body of her mother. It’s hilarious, but ultimately (pun intended), the mother and daughter get back into their rightful bodies and Anna gets to be with Jake while in her own body.

I’m especially stoked for the storyline between Anna and Jake because the film takes place 20 years after the first one and reportedly Manny Jacinto plays Anna’s husband. With that in mind, I have to wonder what happened between the pair of high school sweethearts since the events of the first movie, and how Jake will come back into her life. Also, how long did their relationship last and how did it fall apart?

Along with Chad Michael Murray’s Jake being key to the events of Freakier Friday, I was also hyped that Lohan confirmed that Anna’s high school band Pink Slip is back together. It’s great to hear Lohan share her excitement for the sequel I’ve been waiting years for, and it sounds like the production has something hilarious on the horizon for Chad Michael Murray’s Jake.

Lohan shared this tease about the sequel as both actors find themselves on the 2024 Christmas movie schedule for Netflix. Chad Michael Murray stars in The Merry Gentlemen, where he gets all kinds of shirtless for a good holiday season cause, while Lindsay Lohan stars in Our Little Secret, which has her character getting unexpectedly stuck celebrating Christmas with an ex. Both movies are now streaming for those with a Netflix subscription ahead of Freakier Friday hitting theaters on August 8.

Lindsay Lohan has had quite a go of it in Hollywood but has made it to the other side better than ever, and with a few titles on our 2024 movie schedule, her most recent being Our Little Secret. In a recent interview, she casually slipped in one of the best Mean Girls quotes and I’m so down for her vibe.

The Lohanaissance is just getting started with another cheesy but somehow watchable holiday movie but with Freakier Friday around the corner on our 2025 movie schedule, it’s no better time to get in on it all. She’s been steadily getting back to her magnetic onscreen ways now that she’s married, had a baby boy, and has continued to secure her place and movie partnership with Netflix.

While on The View promoting her new 2024 Netflix movie and TV schedule film, the group chatted about the star's work in front of the camera and behind it, home life, amongst other sights she has for herself. When they touched on the subject of her baby growing up she slipped in the ‘fetchest’ movie reference you’re all hoping for. She said of how she’ll act when her son turns 20:

The iconic line of course was met with cheers and applause from the hosts as well as the audience. I mean, how could it not? I think it’s a great sign that Lohan can reference some of her most popular work with a laugh for the fans, as well as reunite with her plastic costars. Mean Girls changed the cultural landscape when it premiered and it’s continued to have a life of its own–including the Broadway musical adaptation and its movie (which Lohan made a cameo in).

In all seriousness though, the Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen star returning to Hollywood is wonderful to see, especially to her Disney roots. She shared how great it is to return to those lots because of the movies she made were there, including Freaky Friday. The 38-year-old has been dropping a lot of teasers about the nostalgic sequel, and fans like me are over the moon about it (dying to see that Pink Slip reunion, and hopefully, Curtis will join in with the band again).

As a fan, I hope Lohan has nothing but fun and continues to amuse the crowds with her work as she rises again. And, as for her son, I hope he will learn that he does in fact have one of the coolest moms out there.

The 2024 Netflix calendar has been stuffed with fun Christmas flicks from stars like Lacey Chabert, Christina Milian and Chad Michael Murray, but it’s not really the holidays until Lindsay Lohan hits the Christmas movie schedule, right? Our Little Secret is the latest from LiLo’s partnership with one of the best streaming services, and critics were able to screen the project ahead of its November 27 release. Let’s see what holiday hijinks await.

Our Little Secret will see Lindsay Lohan’s Avery bump into her ex when she goes home with her boyfriend to spend their first Christmas together. The former couple choose to keep their history a secret from the other revelers. An impressive ensemble lends their talents, including Ian Harding, Kristin Chenoweth, Dan Bucatinsky, Judy Reyes and Lohan’s Mean Girls co-star Tim Meadows, but unfortunately, Variety’s Owen Gleiberman says that’s not enough to save this movie from being a full cringe-fest. The critic writes:

Johnny Oleksinski of the N.Y. Post disagrees with the above critic, but only so far as how much they enjoyed Irish Wish. The cringe was aplenty for Oleksinski, who said that while Lindsay Lohan’s two previous Netflix rom-coms were “atrocious,” Our Little Secret is merely “bad.” Hard pass, he says, rating the film 1.5 out of 4 stars:

Emma Kiely of Collider gives the movie 4 out of 10, saying the movie can’t execute its playful plot due to a lack of chemistry between Lindsay Lohan and Ian Harding, along with the fact that there is no attempt to make the characters talk like real humans. Kiely says:

Archika Khurana of Times of India says the lead actors try their best to navigate the awkward material, but the plot is too contrived to allow either of them to shine. Khurana rates the 2.5 stars out of 5, writing:

However, Sarah Musnicky of But Why Tho seems to feel no guilt about her love for Our Little Secret. If you’re going to watch just one of Netflix’s holiday offerings, forgo Christina Milian’s perfect holiday flick, just say no to Hot Frosty’s “cheeky, wanton lust” and dance right past Chad Michael Murray’s “spicy but comical” flick. Lindsay Lohan is where the holidays are. Musnicky gives Our Little Secret an 8 out of 10 and says:

Those who have invested time into the somewhat confusing Netflix’s Christmas universe or Lindsay Lohan’s light-hearted contributions to the streamer (guilty on both accounts) will likely not be deterred by the overall negative reviews coming out of Our Little Secret, so fire up that Netflix subscription, because the movie is available to stream now.

Thanksgiving is here and well that means lots of people will be gathering around the dinner table this week one expects many will also be gathering around the television. The best streaming services seem to know this as many of them have rolled out fantastic movies and TV for everybody to enjoy.

Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade 2024 - November 28 (Peacock)

There are few Thanksgiving traditions quite like the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. As has been the case in previous years the parade will be carried live and is available with a Peacock subscription alongside its broadcast on NBC. This year includes new floats dedicated to Dora the Explorer, Disney Cruise Line, and even Netflix's hit series Wednesday. Performances will include Wicked's Cynthia Erivo as well as the original Broadway Wicked star Idina Menzel.

New Movies

Dear Santa - November 25 (Paramount+)

When a young boy tries to mail his Christmas list to Santa but unfortunately can't spell very well, he gets another magical creature instead who is not exactly holly or jolly. If you have a Paramount+ subscription you can see Jack Black star in Dear Santa as literal Satan. The devil grants the child three wishes in exchange for his immortal soul, leading to, one assumes, shenanigans.

Our Little Secret - November 27 (Netflix)

Lindsay Lohan has become the queen of the Christmas rom-com on Netflix. A Netflix subscription already gives you her previous entries Falling For Christmas and Irish Wish. Now this holiday season she's back with another one called Our Little Secret. Lohan plays a woman visiting her boyfriend's family at Christmas only to discover that her ex-boyfriend, and almost fiance, is also a guest.

Sweethearts - November 28 (Max)

It's Thanksgiving and that means it's time to sit down with family have a wonderful dinner and then gather around the television and watch a filthy sex comedy. Kiernan Shipka and Nico Hiraga Star in Sweethearts as two college freshmen who make a pact to break up with their high school sweethearts over Thanksgiving break so that they can see other people. Maybe wait grandma goes home to watch this one.

Beatles ‘63 - November 30 (Disney+)

3 years ago Peter Jackson premiered The Beatles: Get Back on Disney Plus, a documentary looking at the end of the Fab Four. This year, a Disney Plus subscription will bring us Beatles '63 a documentary about the beginning of the iconic band. Beatles '63 is produced by Martin Scorsese and will detail the pop band's breakthrough into global stardom.

December gets into full swing starting next week so we can expect even more fun holiday content meeting up to Christmas.
